Chamisa unequivocally asserted that Sikhala’s imprisonment is unjust and vindictive, emphasizing the ongoing fight against oppression for the sake of Sikhala and all citizens facing similar hardships.
Chamisa expressed his stance in response to a user on the platform, stating, “Job is not guilty. He must be freed yesterday. His incarceration is unjust, sadistic, and vindictive. Our daily fight against oppression is for the sake of Job and all the citizens under oppression.”
The Job Sikhala Solidarity Movement Coordinator, Obert Masaraure, echoed Chamisa’s message, highlighting that Chamisa’s statement serves as a refutation to those who speculated about a political discord between the two leaders.
Masaraure emphasized the political unity between Chamisa and Sikhala, stating, “The doomsayers who were claiming that Nelson Chamisa and Job Sikhala are fighting each other have been shamed. The Zimbabwe Schools Examination Council (ZIMSEC) has warned the 2023 Ordinary Level examination candidates against logging into the portal before 3PM as it may result in their account halted by the system.
ZIMSEC has released 2023 Ordinary Level results with an announcement expected at 12PM today.
According to ZIMSEC, candidates will be able access the results from 3PM.
“The results portal will be available at 1500HRS. Please DO NOT try and log into the portal before that time, as you risk having your account halted by the system,” said ZIMSEC on its social media platforms.

In an exclusive interview with The Herald, Minister of Justice, Legal, and Parliamentary Affairs, Ziyambi Ziyambi, emphasized that funds will only be disbursed to a political party embroiled in internal conflicts when their issues are resolved in courts.
“We have Zanu PF and CCC, so in that process, we will officially announce the allocated amounts for each party. Subsequently, we will request authorized representatives of the respective parties to provide names and account details for the fund disbursement,” said Ziyambi.
He also hinted that they could even withhold funding to disputing parties.
“We will withhold funds in the presence of internal conflicts, urging the parties to resolve their issues amicably. Should they resort to legal recourse, we are committed to complying with the rulings of the court,” Ziyambi affirmed.

Vehicles driven on the country’s highways without valid licences shall be denied passage at toll gates, Transport Minister Felix Mhona has declared.
Under Statutory Instrument 5 of 2024 which also outlines the new toll gate fees introduced in the 2024 budget by Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube, Mhona also decreed sanctions on persons who “willfully” or accidentally damage toll gates.
“Any person who willfully damages, defaces, or alters in any way any tolling infrastructure shall be liable for its replacement cost as may be determined by the Road Fund,” Mhona said in his SI.
He added, “Any person who is involved in an accident that results in the damage of any tolling infrastructure shall be liable for the repair of such damage.”
Under the gazetted regulations, cars driven along the country’s highways without valid licences shall not pass through any toll gate.
“For the purposes of enforcing collection of all required fees, an authorised person shall be permitted to deny passage through a Tolling Point to any vehicle that has an expired or does not have a valid vehicle licence in terms of the Vehicle Registration and Licensing Act,” the SI also reads.
Under the regulations published, ZINARA board members are exempted from paying the fees.
“Vehicles belonging to members of the ZINARA Board members for the duration of their appointment and any other institution or persons as may be approved by ZINARA provided that vehicles exempted under this provision shall not exceed 2 vehicles per such institution or person,” the minister directed.

By Wilbert Mukori| “Answer the question you were asked and not one you wanted to be asked!”Is the one lesson I learned from my secondary school Bible Knowledge teacher, I remember to this day. “You will not get any marks for answering questions you wanted to be asked!”
Zimbabwe is a failed nation sinking deeper and deeper into the abyss. Why? Well, for one thing, we Zimbabweans have certainly a knack for answering the questions that we wanted asked and not the questions life has asked.
“The opposition cant be the problem!” insisted one member in my WhatsApp group.
“The problem lies in the denial of the people especially those in the rural areas their real right to vote. People in most rural areas are coerced directly and also indirectly who to vote for … the result being that at the end of the day they do not substantively exercise their right to vote in the real sense of it.
This has affected our democratic system a lot and ultimately the result is not a true reflection of the democratic will of the people.”
The problem of rigged elections certainly lies with Zanu PF but considering Zanu PF has rigged elections ever since 1980, 43 years and counting, one would expect the nation to have moved on by now from who is rigging the elections to what are we going to do about it! And true enough this is exactly what the nation has done.
By the late 1990s the people of Zimbabwe came to the conclusion that the only way to stop Zanu PF rigging elections was by implemented the democratic reforms designed to take away the regime’s dictatorial powers including the carte blanche powers to deny the people their right to free, fair and credible elections. The people also realised that Zanu PF thugs could not be trusted to implement these democratic reforms and thus reform themselves out of power.
The people of Zimbabwe have risk life and limb, from the Zanu PF thugs desperate to retain their iron grip on power, to elect opposition members into power for one express purpose – they would implement the democratic reforms and stop Zanu PF rigging elections once and for all. After 23 years of MDC/CCC leaders on the political stage, 5 of which in the 2008 to 2013 GNU, it is most disheartening that MDC/CCC leaders failed to implement even one token democratic reform. Not even one!
Worse still, ever since the GNU debacle MDC/CCC leaders have participated in flawed elections, knowing fully well that Zanu PF was rigging and that participating would give the election process some modicum of credibility and thus give Zanu PF legitimacy. They have soldiered on and participated out of greed. They knew Zanu PF would give away a few gravy train seats to entice the opposition to participate. They found the bait irresistible and did not care about the millions denied the vote!
Emmerson Mnangagwa and his Zanu PF cronies blatantly rigged the August 2023 elections because MDC/CCC leaders had failed to implement even one token democratic reforms to stop the rigging.
Indeed, even after AU, SADC and even Zimbabwe’s own ZHRC election observers had condemned the 23 August 2023 elections as a farce; CCC leaders were falling over themselves in their hast to take up their gravy train train seats. By accepting their gravy train seats CCC gave their resounding endorsement of the elections leaving SADC leaders speechless.
Zimbabwe’s problem of the failure to hold free, fair and credible elections is an OPPOSITION problem as contrast to being a Zanu PF problem in the sense that it is the form who have failed to implement the necessary reforms to stop the rigging. Zanu PF blatantly rigged the 2023 elections and thanks to CCC’s participation and endorsement they got away with it, in like manner the regime will rigged the 2028 elections unless we finally answer the question: Is there a competent opposition who can and will implement the democratic reforms to end the curse of rigged elections?
Zimbabwe should have been a healthy and functioning democratic country by 2013, at the latest, if MDC leader had implemented the democratic reforms. Even now, after 23 years including 5 in the GNU and without even one token reform implemented many Zimbabwe are still reluctant to accept that MDC/CCC leaders are corrupt and incompetent and will never implement the requisite democratic reforms to stop Zanu PF rigging elections.
23 years wasted dithering over reforms and for our part dithering over MDC/CCC leaders are up to the task of implementing the reforms. There is a heavy price to be paid dithering and we are paying it. Zimbabwe is a failed state because we have failed to end the curse of rigged elections and there is nothing that will give me reason to believe the reforms will finally be implemented and the curse lifted. Nothing!

Kasukuwere expressed his views following a meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) in Uganda, where Mnangagwa not only missed the chance to address the gathering but was also positioned at the farthest right in the official photograph featuring member states and their leaders.

Kasukuwere was disqualified from participating due to concerns about his residency, raised by observer missions. The electoral process faced issues like delays in providing voting materials in perceived opposition strongholds, voter intimidation by state-aligned Forever Associates Zimbabwe (FAZ) officers, and other factors, contributing to discrediting the election.
The mismanagement of the election by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has extended the country’s isolation, despite President Mnangagwa’s intentional re-engagement policy. By-A number of artisan miners have been trapped underground and are feared dead after a mineshaft they were working in collapsed in Kwekwe.
The mine, whose name could not be ascertained, reportedly collapsed on Sunday and attempts to rescue the miners have been in vain.
Acting Kwekwe District Civil Protection Unit chairperson, Mr Reason Machina confirmed the incident.
“We received a report that at least two people were trapped underground after the mine collapsed on Sunday. Rescue efforts have been futile ever since and I am told that one of the mining giants Kuvimba Mining House has provided an excavator to help in the rescue operations,” he said.
Mr Machina said chances of the people being alive are very slim.
“Since Sunday to date, chances are very slim but you never know. Our aim also is to ascertain the number of people who were underground when the disaster struck,” he said.
The disaster comes barely a week after 15 miners who were trapped for about four days in Redwing Mine in Penhalonga near Mutare were rescued and escaped without a scratch.
Mines and Mineral Development Minister, Soda Zhemu has directed that all artisanal mining activities be suspended owing to heavy rains being experienced.

By A Correspondent| The High court has stopped the eviction of 800 families that were at the risk of being rendered homeless by government under controversial and opaque circumstances.
High Court Judge Justice Rogers Manyangadze on Wednesday 17 January 2024 stopped the eviction of the 800 families, who reside in Norton in Mashonaland West province, after some former farm workers challenged a directive for their eviction issued by government.
Government had on 11 January 2024 through officials from the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development and the District Administrator for Chegutu, who were accompanied by some Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) officers and officials from the Environmental Management Agency, visited Plot Number 46 at Skea Farm, where they convened a meeting and advised the former farm workers and their families to vacate from the farm within three days.
The officials from the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development and the District Administrator for Chegutu reportedly read a message from their mobile phone handsets indicating that they had been sent to deliver a message from President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Faced with imminent eviction, the former farm employees, who were once employed by Martin Skea, a white commercial farmer, who owned Skea Farm, before the farm was acquired by government during the land grab exercise, engaged Rutendo Muchenje of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights, who on 15 January 2024, filed an urgent chamber application at the High Court, seeking to interdict Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development Minister Hon. Dr Anxious Masuka, the District Administrator for Chegutu and the Officer Commanding ZRP Norton District from evicting them and also to stop them from demolishing their houses.
In the application, the former farm employees represented by Charles Kungayi, Joshua Kazukamwe, Elias Mandiwanzira, Melody Mbawa, Betty Chapendeka and Patrick Pawandiwa, argued that they were allocated houses by Martin Skea, their erstwhile employer as company accommodation during the time when they were farm workers at the farm and had been in undisturbed possession of the houses to date.
As former employees, they argued that they lived in the company houses located at the farm compound together with other employees and that the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development was aware that they were residing at the farm compound.
Muchenje argued that the former farm workers had been paying dues and rates to the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development and to the District Administrator for Chegutu on an annual basis and the District Administrator for Chegutu and had been accepting the rates, which they have been paying, estimated at about US$3 per hectare.
The former farm employees, who are residents of Ward 14 in Norton in Mashonaland West province, argued that officials from Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development, the District Administrator for Chegutu, ZRP and Environmental Management Agency did not serve them with a court order authorising their eviction.
They argued that section 74 of the Constitution states that no person may be evicted from their home or have their home demolished without securing a court order after considering relevant circumstances.
The actions of officials from the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development, the District Administrator for Chegutu in seeking to evict them, the former farm employees argued, are a violation of human rights and violate some provisions of the Constitution.
The former farm workers contended that they are of old age and do not have alternative accommodation hence they will be rendered homeless during the current rainy season.
On Wednesday 17 January 2024, Justice Manyangadze barred Hon. Dr Masuka, the District Administrator for Chegutu and the Officer Commanding ZRP Norton District, from evicting the former farm workers without obtaining a court order authorising them to do so.

The group further alleged that the Zimbabwe National Road Authority (ZINARA) has been misappropriating toll fees in the past.
“Further, particularly with the onset of the rainy season, the state of road infrastructure is appalling, fuelling suspicions that these fees are being misappropriated, as has been disclosed in the past from the Zimbabwe National Road Authority (ZINARA),” the statement said.
VISET appealed to the government to show compassion for the suffering of the majority of Zimbabweans.
“Our appeal to government as Vendors Initiative for Social and Economic Transformation (VISET) is that in case they didn’t get the memo, people are suffering and barely surviving! If indeed ‘leaving no one behind’ is to be a reality, then it is time to show compassion and alleviate the suffering of the majority through creating a conducive environment, not just for the foreign companies, but for even the ordinary trader, so they can scale up their operations, and be able to equally create more employment.
Only through that will we be able to get to the national aspiration of being a middle-income economy!” the statement said.

Reacting to a Statutory Instrument on toll fees for people living within radius of toll gates, Masarira said government was overburdening motorists who are already struggling to pay the increased fees.
“Another tollgate added just before Chivhu and another one before Marondera. The development will make it 2 tollgates from Harare to Marondera and 4 tollgates from Harare to Mutare.
“The government of Zimbabwe must be reminded that money does not grow on trees. Overburdening motorists with more tollgates after increasing the tariffs is the highest level of inconsiderate behaviour about the plight of the already overtaxed Zimbabwean,” said Masarira.
She called for government to be pro-poor and consider the plight of the people than continuously milking them dry.
“We need a pro-poor government that considers the plight of the people they govern. Stop milking us dry,” added Masarira.
Government hiked tollgate fees by 100 percent with those found on what they termed premium roads now charging $4 for small vehicles.

Former Foreign Affairs minister Walter Mzembi has accused lawyers and judges of killing Zimbabwean politics.

By Political Reporter- Disgruntled Citizen Coalition for Change (CCC) member and former legislator Job Sikhala’s Spokesman, Freddie Masarirevhu, has openly criticised Zambia’s President Hakainde Hichilema for snubbing Emmerson Mnangagwa’s self-inauguration in September 2023.
Hichilema is an ally of the CCC President Nelson Chamisa, whose party Masarirevhu claims to belong.
Masarirevhu wanted to contest as a parliamentary candidate in August 2023, but Chamisa rejected his candidature after arrogantly skipping the party procedures.
Taking to his social media platform X, Masarirevhu accused Zambia’s president of inconsistency by Saturday attending the inauguration of the criticised winner of the December 20 DRC elections, Felix Tshisekedi, while ignoring Mnangagwa.
Attacking HH, Masarirevhu pointed out that Zimbabwe’s elections faced continental condemnation and were only attended by two of Mnangagwa’s close associates.
Unlike the DRC’s case, Zimbabwe’s elections were condemned by the whole continent and only attended by two of Mnangagwa’s close friends.
In Zimbabwe’s case, not only were there electoral violations, but there were public declarations by the Mnangagwa administration to use the military to overthrow the elected government at its inception. This means, essentially, there was a coup in Zimbabwe in 2023.
On other matters are revelations that Mnangagwa has been trying allegedly to kill Zambia’s president in 2023. Mnangagwa’s state media approved Rutendo Matinyarare declared death threats on Zambia’s president, in what is too obvious of Mnangagwa’s villains in the eyes of the SADC leadership.

By Crime Reporter- The Zimbabwe Republic Police have confirmed the reunion of the 22 David Livingstone Primary school kids with their families.
The kids were kidnapped Thursday afternoon by a Kombi driver, identified as Samuel Honda and were found in Macheke after the Nissan Caravan Kombi he was driving had run out of fuel at the 103km peg along Harare-Mutare Road.
Honde has since been arrested.
A passer-by who saw the children crying in the minibus informed police, leading to the arrest of the suspect.
The children have since been reunited with their parents.
In a statement, national police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms the arrest of Samuel Honde aged 60 at the 103km peg along Harare-Mutare Road, Macheke, for kidnapping 25 learners from David Livingstone Primary School on 18th January 2024.
“The arrest follows a tip-off received by ZRP Macheke from a passer-by that there was a Nissan Caravan kombi, registration number AFN 0198, with children on board parked by the roadside. The informant suspected foul play as some of the children were crying,” he said.
Asst Comm Nyathi said investigations by the police established that the suspect had parked the vehicle after it had run out of fuel.
“It was established that the suspect was contracted by various parents, since 2016, to ferry learners to and from David Livingstone Primary School to their homes in Greater Harare.
“On January 18, 2024 at around 1300 hours, the suspect picked 25 learners —14 girls and 11 boys — from the school and drove towards Macheke instead of driving the learners to their respective homes in Kuwadzana and surrounding areas.
“The learners have since been reunited with their parents after they were referred to Marondera Provincial Hospital for medical examinations,” he said.
Investigations are in progress to establish the motive behind the kidnapping.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police warns parents and guardians to ensure their representatives are present as children are picked to and from school by contracted transporters. The representatives will assist to monitor the movement of the hired transporters,” Asst Comm Nyathi said.
When The Herald visited the school yesterday, drivers were discussing the case, each with their own version of events.
“Instead of going to Kuwadzana, he took the Mutare Road, but did not have money for tollgate fees. He reportedly had a dispute with the Zinara guys after he failed to pay the toll fees,” said a driver who used to work with Honde.
“I am still wondering why he was allowed passage, given that he had questioned the tollgate team about why they were denying him passage to Kuwadzana.
“This should have alerted them to the fact that they were dealing with a potentially dangerous individual, especially considering that he was carrying minors.”
Another driver, who also declined to be identified said parents would never have expected that Honde would abduct the children as he had worked with them for many years and had always been trustworthy.
“We have been working with him as colleagues for over eight years and he had always safely transported the children to and from school without any issues,” he said.
“I believe he must have somehow lost his memory or experienced sudden mental illness. Maybe he was even drunk but we are not sure yet.
“We will wait to hear more from police when they complete their investigations because it’s difficult to understand what he was thinking at the time.”
A WhatsApp group chat for parents of children who learn at David Livingstone Primary School seen by this publication indicates that many parents only became aware of the incident at around 7pm.
“Let us pray for the children who were in Honde’s commuter omnibus. They are reported to be missing,” a concerned parent said, alerting others.
Few minutes later another parent broke the news that the Kombi had been found.
“The Kombi is said to have been found in Macheke but there is still no confirmation as to whether the children are still alive,” another parent wrote.
The parents were initially filled with anxiety but felt immense relief when they learnt that all of the children had been found safe and sound.
“All the children have been found safe, though the exact motive of the driver remains unclear. Some have suggested that he may have become mentally ill, but this has not been confirmed. We will await the doctor’s report, and if it proves that he is not mentally ill, he will go straight to jail,” another parent said.
Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education Spokesperson Taungana Ndoro confirmed that they had received a report on the incident.
“Yes, we have received the report but on this issue, we refer you back to the Zimbabwe Republic Police,” he said.
Mr Ndoro however said the Ministry continued to urge parents to provide reliable transport for their children.
“We are urging parents to be careful when they provide transport in teams for their children. They should be very alert and do a lot of vetting of the people they hire to ferry their children to and from school.”

By Political Reporter- Zanu PF captured judiciary has granted the CCC rebel Sengezo Tshabangu, authority to continue purging elected CCC officials aligned with Nelson Chamisa from both parliamentary and local government positions.
This has led Tshabangu to write a letter to Winston Chitando, the Local Government, Public Works, and National Housing minister advising him to stop anyone from stopping him from recalling elected CCC members.
In the letter, dated 12 January 2024, Tshabangu declares himself the sole party official authorized to execute recalls of CCC officials. It warns against any unauthorized attempts to carry out recalls within the party.

RE: UNAUTHORIZED AND UNLAWFUL RECALLS OF MEMBERS OF THE CITIZENS COALITION FOR CHANGE
The above matter refers.
We hereby advise that Sengezo Tshabangu, the Interim Secretary General of the Party, is the only officer authorized to effect recalls and to communicate with public bodies for that purpose in terms of our party constitution previously lodged with your office.
Meanwhile, due to a High Court provisional order in case number HH652/23, the only official with the powers to effect recalls is interdicted from effecting any further recalls pending the finalization of matters before the High Court where his authority is being challenged.

Amidst the turmoil, Mr. Morudu found himself accused of assaulting Assa Mauko, a member of the Forever Associates of Zimbabwe (FAZ) and a staunch Zanu PF supporter.
FAZ, implicated in rigging the 2023 elections in favor of Zanu PF, added complexity to the allegations against Morudu.The charges against Mr. Morudu were severe, accusing him of causing harm to Mauko during the chaotic incident. “On my own behalf, the party Zanu PF and indeed the Government of the Republic of Zimbabwe, I wish to extend our deepest condolences to the Plummer family, the entire December 12 family, and all the revolutionary peoples of the world, for the loss of a great companion and comrade.
“We have been robbed of a gallant liberation fighter, a true Pan-Africanist who stood by us throughout her illustrious life.”
Zanu PF, President Mnangagwa said, first struck a chord with the December 12 Movement in the 1960s, in the formative years of the struggle.
“Since then, an unbreakable bond was created. Cde Viola, and her fellow comrades, including the now departed Cde Coltrane Chimurenga, were drawn into the struggle for black liberation by the desire and commitment to fight the unjust evil system that treated black people as second-class citizens in the United States of America.
“Cde Viola was instrumental and central to the formation of the December 12 Movement, which morphed into an underground liberation movement right in the belly of the beast.”
President Mnangagwa said her journey was one of selflessness and sacrifice, braving all the brutality brought upon her and her movement by the racist US system.
“After realising that their fight for freedom and justice in the US was not going to be completely fruitful without going back to the roots, Cde Viola, Cde Chimurenga and others decided to scan for brotherhood and solidarity with fellow Africans and other global citizens fighting for the freedom of all humanity, and the eradication of the system of racism.
“This strategic move saw Cde Viola and her comrades establishing solid relations not only with the liberation movements in Zimbabwe, but also in Angola, Mozambique, Guinea Bissau, Venezuela and Cuba, to mention a few.
“The December 12 Movement effectively took the African liberation voice deep into the US, albeit under very difficult conditions, and in most cases at the expense of their own personal freedom and prosperity.”
The President also said that the solid solidarity cemented with liberation movements in Zimbabwe in the 1960s was further strengthened when the nation gained political independence in 1980.
“When the West imposed its illegal and inhumane sanctions upon us for taking back our land, the December 12 Movement led by Coltrane Chimurenga as a founding member was the first ‘out of the continent’ group to take up the fight in defence of their motherland.
“Despite the successive US governments’ sustained efforts to specify, isolate and render the movement dysfunctional, the December 12 Movement, under the continued leadership of Cde Viola, stood tall and tough, telling the racist US government to keep its hands off Zimbabwe.
“Owing to Cde Viola’s uncompromising stance, the December 12 Movement literally owned the anti-sanctions campaign in the US.
“Cde Viola and her troops became a regular feature at the United Nations General Assembly where each year they stood firm in defence of Zimbabwe, and played a critical role in countering the feeble but toxic actions of some of our own Zimbabwean nationals who continue to campaign for the West to suffocate us.”
President Mnangagwa also pledged to safeguard the already established strong ties between Zimbabwe and the December 12 Movement.
“In Cde Viola, Cde Chimurenga and the entire December 12 Movement, we had a presence in spaces we could not reach on our own to defend our cause.

Under Mwonzora’s leadership, MDC abstained from the 2023 elections, citing the necessity for electoral reforms.
They specifically contested and lost the delimitation exercise, alleging bias favouring the ruling party, ZANU PF.

Freeman lied in his affidavit that he started knowing the late Godknows Machingura in 2017, but the local tabloid revealed that as far back as 2015, the gifted vocalist was already associating with Machingura.
“I wish to further state that I started interacting with Machingura back in 2017 when my management team was contacted by Machingura, inviting me to perform at a show he was organizing in Durban,” said Freeman in his police statement.
Machingura was killed during a shoot-out with the police following a tip off that they were planning to commit a spate of robberies in Zimbabwe.
The tabloid shared pictures of Freeman and Machingura mixing together in 2015 and 2016.
According to the local tabloid, “As early as 2015, Freeman had already met Machingura and the two appeared to know each other very well that they even posed for selfie and seemed happy in each other’s company.”

Fortunately, a vigilant motorist came across the stranded vehicle and discovered the children in a state of distress.
Reacting promptly, the motorist reported the incident to the police, who swiftly arrived at the scene.
Subsequently, the driver was apprehended, and the traumatized children were taken to Marondera Hospital for a thorough medical examination.
Investigations into the incident revealed that certain parents in Kuwadzana had been compensating the driver for his services in transporting their children to and from the school over an extended period.
The children were reportedly picked up from school around midday, adding a layer of concern to the situation.

The movement’s coordinator, Obert Masaraure, took to social media to express concern over the apparent crackdown on its members.
In a tweet posted yesterday, Masaraure stated, “We are receiving phone calls from members of the Sikhala Solidarity Movement across the country, who are being invited for questioning by State agents.
The State is advised that we are not planning any protests on 24 January 2024. We are simply attending court in numbers.”
The Sikhala Solidarity Movement was formed to support Job Sikhala, who has been in pre-trial detention for over a year.

Plummer, the Brooklyn-based civil and human rights organisation’s co-founder, died at 86 on Monday.
In a statement yesterday, President Emmerson Mnangagwa said he was devastated.
“It is with a heavy heart that we have learnt of the demise of one of our own, Cde Viola Plummer, chairperson of the December 12 Movement.
“On my own behalf, the party Zanu PF and indeed the Government of the Republic of Zimbabwe, I wish to extend our deepest condolences to the Plummer family, the entire December 12 family, and all the revolutionary peoples of the world, for the loss of a great companion and comrade.
“We have been robbed of a gallant liberation fighter, a true Pan-Africanist who stood by us throughout her illustrious life.”
Zanu PF, President Mnangagwa said, first struck a chord with the December 12 Movement in the 1960s, in the formative years of the struggle.
“Since then, an unbreakable bond was created. Cde Viola, and her fellow comrades, including the now departed Cde Coltrane Chimurenga, were drawn into the struggle for black liberation by the desire and commitment to fight the unjust evil system that treated black people as second-class citizens in the United States of America.
“Cde Viola was instrumental and central to the formation of the December 12 Movement, which morphed into an underground liberation movement right in the belly of the beast.”
President Mnangagwa said her journey was one of selflessness and sacrifice, braving all the brutality brought upon her and her movement by the racist US system.
“After realising that their fight for freedom and justice in the US was not going to be completely fruitful without going back to the roots, Cde Viola, Cde Chimurenga and others decided to scan for brotherhood and solidarity with fellow Africans and other global citizens fighting for the freedom of all humanity, and the eradication of the system of racism.
“This strategic move saw Cde Viola and her comrades establishing solid relations not only with the liberation movements in Zimbabwe, but also in Angola, Mozambique, Guinea Bissau, Venezuela and Cuba, to mention a few.
“The December 12 Movement effectively took the African liberation voice deep into the US, albeit under very difficult conditions, and in most cases at the expense of their own personal freedom and prosperity.”
The President also said that the solid solidarity cemented with liberation movements in Zimbabwe in the 1960s was further strengthened when the nation gained political independence in 1980.
“When the West imposed its illegal and inhumane sanctions upon us for taking back our land, the December 12 Movement led by Coltrane Chimurenga as a founding member was the first ‘out of the continent’ group to take up the fight in defence of their motherland.
“Despite the successive US governments’ sustained efforts to specify, isolate and render the movement dysfunctional, the December 12 Movement, under the continued leadership of Cde Viola, stood tall and tough, telling the racist US government to keep its hands off Zimbabwe.
“Owing to Cde Viola’s uncompromising stance, the December 12 Movement literally owned the anti-sanctions campaign in the US.
“Cde Viola and her troops became a regular feature at the United Nations General Assembly where each year they stood firm in defence of Zimbabwe, and played a critical role in countering the feeble but toxic actions of some of our own Zimbabwean nationals who continue to campaign for the West to suffocate us.”
President Mnangagwa also pledged to safeguard the already established strong ties between Zimbabwe and the December 12 Movement.
“In Cde Viola, Cde Chimurenga and the entire December 12 Movement, we had a presence in spaces we could not reach on our own to defend our cause.
“As we mourn our Dear Comrade, we will forever remain grateful and indebted to the great sacrifices that Cde Viola made for our beloved country.
“Her glorious efforts will not be in vain. As Zanu PF and the Government of Zimbabwe, we are going to ensure that the strong relations established between us and the December 12 Movement are safeguarded as we venture into new areas of cooperation.
“My wish is to see the December 12 Movement comrades in the US actively participating in our national economic recovery and growth effort. Zimbabwe is your country, one of your great comrades is buried here and we want to see this relationship grow beyond political solidarity.”
President Mnangagwa said Cde Viola’s legacy as revolutionary would live on.
“We have confidence that within the movement, there remains Comrades who have learnt from the best and are eager to defend the motherland till death. Zanu PF is ready to work with these Cdes in advancing our noble cause for humanity.
“Together, we have a duty to ensure that what Cde Viola died fighting for does see the light of day. To our Sister Viola, we say go well, you fought a good fight. We will carry on the good work that you selflessly gave your life to.”
In 2022, she led a December 12 Movement delegation that was in the country for the 7th Zanu PF People’s Congress.

By- High Court Judge Justice Benjamin Chikowero has denied former Finance Deputy Minister Terrence Mukupe, his bail pending appeal following his imprisonment for fuel smuggling in February 2017.
Mukupe was among a group of four people jailed for three years after importing over 138 000 litres of diesel into Zimbabwe without paying duty.
The fraud involves misrepresenting the fuel as in transit through Zimbabwe to the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Mukupe said the High Court had misdirected itself on the facts and evidence.
He claimed the court grossly misdirected itself by basing on circumstantial evidence where the inference of guilt was not the only reasonable inference to be drawn from the facts and evidence.
However, Justice Benjamin Chikowero, dismissed the appeal saying the application was without substance.
The Judge noted that even though Mukupe did not import the diesel, he unlawfully and intentionally connived to import and dodged payment of duty.
“I consider that all the grounds of appeal are without substance. I do not think that there is any real prospect of the court finding differently.
“The court explained why Mukupe is caught in the ambit of being an importer and why it was satisfied that he imported the diesel in question.
“Further, it must always be borne in mind that even if the court had not found that he did not import the diesel, it still made a finding that he unlawfully and intentionally, therefore, assisted in or was an accessory to or connived in the importation of the diesel without payment of duty thereon,” ruled Justice Chikowero.
He said Mukupe’s conviction was not based on circumstantial evidence.
“It is for these reasons that I take the view that the first ground of appeal is frivolous.
“The second ground of appeal not only attacks findings of fact, some of which were based on an assessment of the credibility of all those who testified at the trial, but is erroneous.
“The conviction was not based solely on circumstantial evidence. It rested on a combination of direct evidence and circumstantial evidence. “Consequently, there is not and can be no substance in the second, being an incorrect ground of appeal.”
Justice Chikowero said that even if he could be confident Mukupe wouldn’t abscond, “everything else is against him”.
“He failed to tip the scales in his favour. The application for bail pending appeal against conviction and sentence be and is dismissed.”
Mukupe and drivers, Sam Kapisoriso, Joseph Taderera and Leonard Mudzuto were jailed in November last year following their conviction.
Magistrate Sharon Nxongo has handed down an eight-month prison sentence to 18 individuals who illegally settled on Dagbreck Farm, violating regulations pertaining to gazetted land and lacking authorization from the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water, and Rural Development.
Magistrate Nxongo later amended the sentence to 140 hours of community service, assigning tasks at various Government departments, including Chivhu Magistrates Court, Runyararo Primary School, and ZRP Chivhu.
The convicted settlers are identified as Milton Mupfumbi, Blessing Komba, Bright Komba, Jimu Simbi Tinotenda Mutawani, Henry Maphosa, Hillary Shura, Micah Maguma, Miriam Chikodza, Agnes Bhiri, Pepukai Mutsvakiwa, Even Munhande, Lovemore Tipedze, Aisha Murindango, Mercy Takura, Miriam Takura, Memory Kwashirai, and Taruvinga Mashata.

The incident, reported by his 87-year-old wife Marudana Nyemba, is currently under investigation, with no arrests made, as confirmed by Masvingo Provincial Police Deputy Spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Bright Simbi.

Unveiling the ambitious project at Royal Harare Golf Course Thursday, WestProp CEO Mr Ken Sharpe said they are committed to rejuvenating the Wetland, despite recent land ownership changes.
Sharpe stated, “We remain committed to fulfilling our dream to rejuvenate the Wetland. Hence, we have invited you so that you can give your input to the project. We have set aside US$1 million for the project, and the designs are now available for public input.”

By Political Reporter- Social rights activist and Transform Zimbabwe leader Jacob Ngarivhume says defeating Zanu PF requires collective action from the citizens.
He urges a shift away from relying solely on individual politicians and emphasises the need for better coordination within the opposition.
Ngarivhume argues that politics in Zimbabwe should move beyond focusing on individuals and personalities and instead promote collective action.
He points out that ZANU PF demonstrates strong coordination in persecuting people, and Zimbabweans need to unite similarly.
He said during a show on Asakhe, an X space hosted by CITE on Tuesday:
None but ourselves can free ourselves as Zimbabweans. This is what Transform Zimbabwe strongly feels.
We need a well-coordinated response to what is happening in the country. The enemy, the Zanu PF regime is well-coordinated in persecuting people. They have captured the courts. They know that you will not escape the courts. They have captured prison officers in our prisons and they know you will be quite in trouble when in prison. They are well-coordinated and well-oiled and this is the kind of coordination that we need. The opposition needs two times that coordination.
According to Ngarivhume, when politicians fail to deliver, it is up to ordinary citizens to take control of the situation. He believes that the people should collectively challenge decisions like the recent national budget, which included tax increases on already struggling citizens. Ngarivhume suggests that citizens should reject such actions and demand an end to corruption, even if it means taking to the streets.
Ngarivhume calls for a shared vision among Zimbabweans and urges the opposition to unite and find common ground in their fight against a regime which he says ignores the voices of the people. He emphasises the importance of Zimbabweans taking initiative rather than relying on external intervention.
Reflecting on his detention, Ngarivhume stressed the need for support and solidarity among political activists, especially when they are arrested. He said:
I informed my information team, and I spoke to ZINASU because we need that solidarity. As you grow, you realise people are so much afraid of many things. They want to occupy that space alone (saying) ‘that space must be occupied by me and is mine alone.’ That is selfishness. In the struggle, you need to stand up for another.
We must speak up for Sikhala and the Mthwakazi people. You can’t be arrested and we say nothing. The oppressor looks at that. The strong support sends a strong message. That’s the kind of thing they look at. Sikhala goes back to the Magistrates Court in Harare on January 24, 2024, and we need to be there.
In 2021, Ngarivhume said that Zimbabwe needed a different and more mature way of doing politics. He called for people to come together and support Nelson Chamisa, who he said leads the biggest opposition party in the country. However, Ngarivhume couldn’t take part in the August 2023 elections because he was in prison at the time.

Tshabangu, a former MDC provincial youth chairperson and MDC-N member, have been recalling CCC Members of Parliament, citing irregularities and disrespect of party processes.

ZBC producer Julias Chirume has died.
He was 36.
Chirume died this afternoon at Madokero Clinic.
He joined ZBC in 2009 as a sports intern before becoming a producer in the Kidznet section of the TV, News and Current Affairs department until his untimely death.
Chirume died the day another Staffer, Hector Murombedzi, was buried.
“I’ll follow Chamisa no matter what!” Only one devoid of common sense would especially given his track record.
By Wilbert Mukori | Zimbabwe is a failed state and this has been a 43 year growling descend into this hell-on-earth of our own making. The ruling party, Zanu PF, the numerous opposition parties and the ordinary Zimbabweans have all played their part in landing us in this mess.
Zanu PF and the country’s main opposition MDC/CCC have reached a political understanding in which the later has actively cooperated with Zanu PF’s vote rigging activities for a share of the spoils of power. And so the task of pushing for meaningful political change to end the failed state has fallen on the ordinary Zimbabweans. The main reason why there has been no meaningful change these last 43 years is because the ordinary Zimbabweans have remained ignorant, naive and gullible to initiate and effect any meaningful change.
Even now, with the country up to her eye balls in this hell-on-earth mess of our own making, it is shocking just how ignorant and naive many Zimbabweans are out there.
“Why are you not worried about Zanu PF which has failed to deliver change for the past 44 years? You attack the opposition which has no access to your hard earned money (tax) yet those who steal it in broad daylight you choose to close your eyes on them.” came one accusation (the name has been withheld to protect the ignorant.)
The spirit is willing but the intellect is weak; it is so feeble there is nothing there!
By the late 1990s the people of Zimbabwe realised not only that Zanu PF thugs are corrupt and incompetent but more significantly that as long as the thugs retained their carte blanche dictatorial powers to rig elections the nation is stuck with regime. And it will drag the nation deeper and deeper into the abyss. The solution was self-evident; to end the Zanu PF dictatorship and economic and political ruin, the nation must implementing the democratic reforms designed to take away the party’s vote rigging dictatorial powers.
The people of Zimbabwe have risked life and limb, at the hands of the Zanu PF thugs, to elect MDC/CCC leaders on the understanding that once in power they would implement the necessary democratic reforms to stop Zanu PF rigging elections. Zanu PF blatantly rigged the 2023 elections, just as it has done since 1980, because MDC/CCC leaders not only sold out by failing to implement even one reform but, worse still, they have given up implementing reforms.
Chamisa and company have participated in these flawed elections knowing fully well the process was flawed and that doing so would give vote rigging Zanu PF legitimacy and thus perpetuating the suffering of the masses. They have soldiered on regardless because they also knew that Zanu PF was giving away a few gravy train seats to entice the opposition to participate.
“The (2013) electoral process was so flawed, so illegal, that the only logical step was to withdraw, which would compel SADC to hold Zanu PF to account. But such was the distrust between the MDC-T and MDC-N that neither could withdraw for fear that the other would remain in the elections, winning seats and giving the process credibility,” confessed David Coltart in his Book, The Struggle Continues 50 years of Tyranny in Zimbabwe.
Even after AU, SADC and Zimbabwe’s own ZHRC condemned the 2023 Zimbabwe elections as a farce; this did not stop CCC leaders taking up their share of the gravy train seats and thus undermining SADC and AU’s attempts to pressure Zanu PF to stop rigging elections.
What is obvious here is:
a) Zanu PF continues to rig elections because the party has retained all its dictatorial powers to rig elections
b) MDC/CCC leaders have clearly failed to implement even one token democratic reform; after 23 years including 5 in the GNU and nothing to show for it is clear CCC leaders are corrupt and incompetent and utterly useless.
c) after 23 years of hoping against hope that MDC/CCC leaders will implement the reforms, the nation must stop dithering and elect competent opposition leaders who will implement the democratic reforms and end the curse of rigged elections and bad governance.
What is shocking here is that there are many Zimbabweans out there who are still dithering and want to retain CCC leaders under the pretext that Zanu PF is to blame for the failure to implement even one token reform these last 23 years. They even want Zanu PF to be given the task to implement the reforms. Of course, this is nonsensical!
As stated above the people of Zimbabwe have risked all to elect the MDC/CCC leaders these last 23 years on the understanding they would implement the democratic reforms, precisely because the people KNEW they could never trust Zanu PF to implement any of the reforms. The reason for this was obvious – Zanu PF instituted the carte blanche dictatorial powers to rig elections and stay in power. The party benefited from the rigged elections and was not going to reform itself out of power.
It is idiotic, to say the least, to suggest Mnangagwa and his Zanu PF cronies would implement any meaningful democratic reforms to ensure free, fair and credible elections in 2028 and in the future.
However, the prospect of replacing the corrupt and incompetent CCC leaders is unthinkable to many out there and hence the political paralysis.
“As long as Chamisa is living and Zanu PF still existing, people will never follow any other opposing political party without Chamisa as its leader.” argued another individual.
The truth is there are many Zimbabweans who have no clue what the democratic reforms, we have been talking about these last 23 years are about, much less how they are implemented and that the failed state is the dire consequences of failing to implement the reforms. It is therefore not surprising that these people do not blame MDC/CCC for selling out on reforms and thus perpetuating the Zanu PF dictatorship and their own suffering. In their ignorance and naivety Chamisa and company had done nothing wrong!
After 23 years, including 5 in the GNU, and yet not even one token democratic reform in place one had hoped that some information will have started to filter through forcing these die-hard opposition supporters to question MDC/CCC leaders’ performance, especially on the critical task of stopping Zanu PF rigging elections. Sadly, the penny has not dropped and, probably, never will!
Democracy – government of the people, for the people and by the people – will only work if the said people are educated to at least understanding the big issues of the day and are diligent in holding those in positions of power and authority to account. Zimbabwe is a failed state and far from ever becoming a healthy and functioning democracy because most of our electorate are ignorant, naive and gullible.
So ignorant, naive and gullible some Zimbabwe consider Chamisa to be an infallible demigod and hence the reason they will never hold him to account for anything and are hostile to all who have dared to question his performance. It is tragic that anyone, even a half-shilling, should regard a mere mortal to be infallible especially one with a well documented track record of being corrupt and breathtakingly incompetent!
Zanu PF will never ever reform themselves out of office, it is naive to even suggest it. Chamisa and his CCC cronies will never push Zanu PF to implement any meaningful reforms; they had the golden opportunity to implement the reforms themselves during the GNU and they wasted it.
This leaves the ordinary Zimbabweans to instigate and drive for the implementation of democratic reforms. But how can they instigate something they do not even know! And so the hope that Zimbabwe will ever pulling itself out of this hell-on-earth we find ourselves in are slim. We are a failed state and a failed state we shall remain until we have an electorate with some common sense, at least! –
