ZANU PF Goes After ZANU Members Who Voted Chamisa

ZANU PF Initiates Crackdown on Party Members Accused of Voting for Chamisa

The ruling ZANU PF party has reportedly launched a wide-ranging operation to identify and punish party members who allegedly voted against President-elect Emmerson Mnangagwa in the just ended 2023 elections. The targeted are accused of “kicking the ball into the bush,” following revelations that some party members received more votes than Mnangagwa himself during the August 23 and 24 elections.

According to Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) figures, Mnangagwa garnered fewer votes than certain ZANU PF National Assembly candidates, with a discrepancy of 144,680 votes. These figures have sparked concerns within the party leadership, leading to the witch-hunt.

In a departure from party directives, several parliamentary and council candidates surpassed Mnangagwa’s vote tally, winning in constituencies where ZANU PF was instructed not to secure more votes than the President-elect. The discrepancy between Mnangagwa’s victories in 127 constituencies and ZANU PF’s triumph in 136 has ignited internal strife.

One alleged victim of this crackdown is Robert Nyebudzo, a ZANU PF official from Manicaland, who has been charged with “bhora musango.” This term, which gained prominence in the 2008 elections, refers to a strategy where ZANU PF supporters voted for local party candidates while intentionally voting against the party’s presidential candidate, the late Robert Mugabe.

Nyebudzo’s arrest follows the defeat of Enock Porusingazi by Clifford Hlatshwayo of CCC in Chipinge South. Porusingazi initially lost the party’s primary elections to Nyemudzo, who was subsequently disqualified. However, Porusingazi assumed the party candidacy and allegedly won with the support of the “bhora musango” strategy.

In a statement from the ZANU PF Manicaland leadership, Nyemudzo has been summoned for a disciplinary hearing over accusations of sabotaging the party. The letter accuses him of funding the “bhora musango” tactic in Chipinge South, celebrating ZANU PF’s loss.

Tawanda Mukodza, ZANU PF Manicaland provincial chairperson, emphasized the importance of discipline within the party and stated that the purge aimed to eliminate those who undermined Mnangagwa during the elections.

The situation has drawn analysis from experts, with some suggesting that Mnangagwa’s less-than-impressive performance in terms of votes compared to his party candidates indicated his limited popularity within the party. Analysts pointed to factional disputes, imposed candidates, and the economic crisis as potential factors contributing to the party’s internal divisions and Mnangagwa’s unpopularity.

As tensions rise and the internal struggle within ZANU PF continues to unfold, the future of the party remains uncertain, leaving observers and citizens alike to await further developments.- Agencies

ZIMRA Launches 30-Day Voluntary Disclosure Offer

In a bid to promote tax compliance, the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) has introduced a 30-day voluntary disclosure offer targeting individuals and firms who have underreported revenue in their tax submissions. The initiative is aimed at encouraging taxpayers to rectify their tax discrepancies by disclosing additional revenue related to properties valued at US$100,000 or more, purchased assets, luxury vehicles, gold trading, private jets, and more.

ZIMRA emphasized that the voluntary disclosure offer provides an opportunity for taxpayers to come forward and meet their tax obligations without triggering audits. Taxpayers are required to provide detailed schedules outlining outstanding taxes, complete pending tax returns, and settle the owed taxes or arrange payment plans with the authority.

The voluntary disclosure window is open for 30 days from the date of the announcement, after which non-compliance cases will be addressed in accordance with the law. Taxpayers who fail to take advantage of this opportunity may face penalties and interest charges, as specified by law.

ZIMRA highlighted several categories of taxpayers who are eligible for the voluntary disclosure, including individuals who have constructed houses valued at US$100,000 or more, those involved in gold trading and mineral sales, luxury vehicle owners, private jet owners, and agents of Zimbabwean manufactured goods.

The disclosed taxes encompass various types, such as Value Added Tax (VAT), Income Tax, Capital Gains Tax, and PAYE (Pay As You Earn). While the voluntary disclosure offer provides a temporary window for taxpayers to rectify their tax discrepancies, ZIMRA reiterates the importance of meeting tax requirements for income earned through business or trade.

Individuals and companies interested in participating in the voluntary disclosure offer are urged to submit their applications to the nearest ZIMRA offices within the 30-day timeframe. The authority emphasizes that timely action is crucial to avoid potential legal consequences.

As ZIMRA launches this initiative, it signals a concerted effort to foster greater tax compliance and accountability within Zimbabwe’s economic landscape.

VICTORY IN THE WILDERNESS: AN EPISTLE TO THE PEOPLE OF MASVINGO URBAN CONSTITUENCY

01 -09-2023

Dear Masvingo Urban Constituency

As I sit down on my chair, behind the wooden table with my face cupped by tired hands, I write to you the people of Masvingo Urban Constituency not so much in happiness nor not so much in sadness but anguish. I came to you to ask for your support during the campaign period and moment, all souls and hopes were engrained in the anticipation for a New Zimbabwe, a dream that most of you shared with me and resonated well as outlined in my Manifesto, which you all endorsed on the day of plebiscite.

Overwhelmingly, you expressed your choice by Voting for all the 7 Masvingo Urban Councillors. Overwhelmingly, you voted for me as your messenger to the August House of the 10th Parliament. Overwhelmingly , you voted for my president Adv Chamisa Nelson as your 4th President of the Republic Zimbabwe. This sealed the fate of Masvingo Urban decision, compounded by the loins and groins of a not so good environment and electoral cycle but a seasonal plebiscite in the name of democratic elections.

We set the PARALLEL TABULATION CENTRE for the Constituency after receiving intelligence of a manipulated poll ahead of us. We invited the students community and academics to mann our command centre, which was a hive of activity few days before poll, on the polling day and post polls. The Command Centre had all the manpower needed to defend the looming victory, Reaction Teams, Data Capturers, Information gurus, Roving Agents, and political demagogues not forgetting the caterers. The role of ward Chief election Agents and Councillors remained above par, there is always a God in heaven.

A Deployment was done with full training of equipped agents, robust background checks was done to all the Techno 1s who were trained towards the counting procedures and more importantly the need to stand on the Principle pillar against evil machinations by the regime to steal our victory using the weaker exit points by the regime. Ludicrous was the regime with its surrogates which after failing to bribe our agents had to turn polling stations into Zanu Pf Cell meeting points where voters were expected to register their names at the point of entry and marked names at the point of exit, this never happened during the history of our motherland but the regime stooped so low to bring it’s intimidation tactics in the CBD.

I remembered a table was code named Exit Poll Survey was stationed at Civic Centre polling station ward 9, another table was behind the polling station at Rujeko Admin ward 7, infact every polling station had such tables. Our reaction team deployed from the Command Centre had running battles the whole day clashing with the team at these polling stations. The worst move was when the table was moved from civic center to the Beitbridge Bridge Highway in the midst of the road, all this aimed at sending intimidation message to anyone who would vote for CCC, the effect was that some faint hearted members returned back home and refused to vote amid this callous acts by the regime.

I could feel my tears rolling down my cheeks, I felt for the ordinary Citizen in Bvukururu, Mukwirimba, Matsai, Chiremwaremwa, Nyarumwe, Zengeya, Gedhe Maranganyika, Muvava, Manyuchi, Mushambanevhu, Chisheche, Mushayavanhu, Silverdale, Tongogara, Shindi, Mandambabwe, Peter Peregwe, Chavasikana, Mukazi, Matedzi, Chibwedziva, Matandamaviri and realised that this so called election was no an election but a process by the regime to rubber stamp their hegemonic agenda in the name of periodic election.

I felt the deep pain within me and asked myself the reason for participating in such a scam and shameful process predetermined by antics and perpetrators of previous heinous crimes. The whole country was turned into a war zone and the atmosphere could tell that this is not the Zimbabwe that Lookout Masuku wanted, this was not the Zimbabwe that led to the demise of Hebert Chitepo, could this be the Zimbabwe that Tungamirai fought for against Smith? Definitely, not. I do not want to recall the events of the day and this shameful election because even during the highest level of madness in Africa, no such paradigmatic disjuncture was ever done against the ethos and constitutional provisions by any country in the name of reclaiming power, not even Sudan nor Uganda in the madness of Museveni.

I did not win the election when the masses lost, I did not win the election when my people are crying, I did win when there is nothing to smile about , I did not win when we don’t have tallying results, it is not all about my personal Victory in the wilderness but the win for everyone. The mood in this country could have been telling that Zimbabwe has won, a deadlock is looming, the wilderness is ahead of us, dark cloud is upon us, but for the record there is no victory for Masvingo Urban Constituency without national victory. There is no victory for Martin Mureri without the victory of President Chamisa Nelson. I shall be guided by the ethos, resolutions, principles, and guidelines of the party as guided by the citizens who are the custodians of this revolutionary trajectory , a fundamental pillar of citizens driven initiative.

Your vote shall never be in vain, your support shall never be wasted, I shall remain indebted to you, my fellow compatriots as we receive the way forward and an unfolding conundrum of this nation, where we are going to stand tall and walk amongst a generation of my people on the highway to change.

This victory in the wilderness shall forever stand as sign post of a looming Canaan. Israelites wandered in the wilderness fir fourty years not because Canaan was too that far, the Pillar of fire and cloud determined their road map and pace of travel. We have wandered in the wilderness for so long, we have stayed in the plains for too long, I invite the people of our motherland to stand on the touch line as we wait for the unfolding events during the few coming weeks.

Signing off, I did not write this letter celebrating the befitting victory you gave us in Masvingo Urban Constituency, I did not write this letter in jubilation nor in the perchance of my stature as an MP Elect of Masvingo Urban Constituency, but a lone voice in the wilderness, the yesteryear defender of human rights, the voice of the dejected masses of our people, the voice of the downtrodden, the voice of the victims of political chicanery and machinations, that yesteryear voice shall get louder and louder now that it is bestowed with a mandate from you people of my motherland, I am writing to promise that I shall be with you, I will be amongst poor men and women in our streets , the thank you message shall come, the citizens caucuses shall come, the model of development we so wish in this Constituency shall be laid and tabled to you.

Top Zim Cricketer Confirmed Dead

By-Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) chairman Tavengwa Mukuhlani has hailed the late Heath Streak as a true legend who touched many people’s lives.
Paying his respects, Mukuhlani described Streak as “a true great” of the game of cricket. He said:
This is a very sad day for Zimbabwe and a sad day for cricket as we, on the one hand, mourn the demise of a true great of our beautiful game and, on the other, celebrate the greatness of what Heath gave us: he played with passion, spirit and was nothing less than an inspirational figure who raised our flag high and touched lives within the sport and beyond.
On behalf of the ZC Board, Management, Players and Staff, I would like to pass our heartfelt condolences to Heath’s loving wife, Nadine, his family, friends and the entire cricket fraternity on the loss of the icon.
Streak passed away on Sunday, 03 September, at the age of 49 after battling colon and liver cancer.

Chamisa On Fresh Mnangagwa Fight

By- The opposition leader, CCC, Nelson Chamisa, has assured his supporters that help was underway.

Chamisa rejected the presidential election result, alleging rigging after the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) declared President Emmerson Mnangagwa the winner with 52.6% of the vote against his 44%.

Chamisa has reportedly deployed aides Jameson Timba and Gladys Hlatswayo to regional countries seeking support for fresh elections.

Posting on X on Sunday, having stayed away from the social media site formerly called Twitter for about five days, Chamisa added a Bible verse to his declaration. He wrote:

HELP IS ON THE WAY…Be of good cheer Zimbabwe !! ‘He did this so all the nations of the earth might know that the LORD’s hand is powerful, and so you might fear the LORD your God forever.’ Joshua 4:24.

ZimLive quoted CCC spokesman Promise Mkwananzi as saying that there was no need for the party to approach the “biased” courts to challenge the election result. He said:

Several of our court appeals meant to ensure that the election would not be disputed were turned down.

Would the court be comfortable in being perceived as an appendage of a political party rather than a credible station of dispute resolution as enunciated by the Constitution?

It is our view in CCC that the court ought to extricate itself from this dangerous perception and uphold its independence and responsibility as encapsulated in our constitution.

Reports suggest that judges were paid US$400 000 each just before the elections. Before the payouts, Mnangagwa and ZANU PF amended the constitution to stop Chief Justice Luke Malaba from retiring after reaching the age of 70.

Zimbabwe: Mnangagwa’s inauguration marred by arrests, abductions and torture of political activists.

4 September 2023

Zimbabwe: Mnangagwa’s inauguration marred by arrests, abductions and torture of political activists.

Responding to the inauguration of Emmerson Mnangagwa for his second term as President amid a political climate of fear and reports of multiple human rights abuses, including arbitrary arrests, abductions and torture of opposition party activists, Khanyo Farisè, Amnesty International’s Deputy Director for Southern Africa, said:

“President Mnangagwa’s inauguration for his second term as President has been severely blighted by reports of attacks against opposition party activists and threats against those trying to organize peaceful protests amid a growing  crackdown on human rights, especially the rights to freedom of expression, peaceful assembly and association.

“Nobody should be persecuted simply for exercising their human  rights. Everyone, regardless of their political affiliation, should be able to freely participate in peaceful activism without fear of abduction or harm. The Zimbabwean authorities must immediately stop issuing inflammatory statements that could incite attacks against  political activists, human rights defenders and other people.”

“The authorities also must ensure a peaceful post-election environment by fully respecting,  protecting and ensuring the rights to freedom of peaceful assembly, association and expression. They must also conduct prompt, thorough, impartial, independent, effective and transparent investigations into pending cases of enforced disappearances, abductions, and torture. Those suspected of responsibility for these crimes must face justice in fair trials. Victims and their families must be provided with access to justice and effective remedies.”

Background

On 26 August 2023, the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission announced that President Emmerson Mnangagwa of the ruling ZANU PF party had secured re-election after gaining a majority of votes.

Cases of arrests, abduction, assault and torture have been reported both during and after the election. On 2 September 2023, Womberaiishe Nhende, the elected Councilor for Glen Norah Ward 27 in Harare, was abducted and tortured before being dumped on the outskirts of Harare.

Nhende was also among a group of individuals who were seriously injured during skirmishes with Zanu PF activists that led to the death of Tinashe Chitsunge, a political activist for the opposition party Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), on 3 August 2023.

Grace Mugabe Photo-Bombs Mnangagwa’s Inauguration

By Farai D Hove | ZimEye | Former First Lady Grace Mugabe made a striking appearance at Emmerson Mnangagwa’s controversial inauguration ceremony on Monday. The date of the ceremony, falling exactly 69 months and 30 days after his speech, carried significant historical weight. Mnangagwa’s own self-exposure as a former Rhodesian spy who did not participate in the bombing of any train during the Chimurenga war, as revealed in his court documents, was juxtaposed against Mrs. Mugabe’s allegations that he attempted to forcefully remove his boss, Robert Mugabe, during the 1980 independence.

Witnesses were taken aback as Mrs. Mugabe, accompanied by her daughter Bona who recently went through a divorce, entered the National Sports Stadium. Despite her presence, she remained silent and enigmatic. Her appearance holds immense symbolism, representing her unwavering resistance against the accused Rhodesian spy, Mnangagwa, before, during, and after the November 2017 military coup.

While some may interpret her presence as an endorsement of the controversial leader, it could also signify a defiant stance against Mnangagwa’s leadership. The legitimacy of his electoral victory was called into question by prominent African observers, including the South African Development Community (SADC) electoral observer mission. This suggests that Mrs. Mugabe’s appearance might hold a deeper meaning beyond face value, contributing to the ongoing political discourse surrounding Mnangagwa’s rule.

As the nation watches and speculates about the implications of Mrs. Mugabe’s unexpected attendance, one thing remains clear: her presence has injected an additional layer of complexity into an already intricate political landscape. The former First Lady’s actions and motives are poised to captivate the nation’s attention as the story continues to unfold.- ZimEye

“It’s an open public secret”

By Wilbert Mukori- “It will not be the start or the end of the world if Zambia’s President Haikainde Hichilema does not attend tomorrow’s inauguration,” stated Professor Jonathan Moyo in his recent article.

“Whether President Hakainde Hichilema attends the inauguration tomorrow is entirely up to him, no big deal. The proposition that the inauguration will have no legitimacy if he does not attend is wholly absurd and preposterous.

“The Zambian President is only that, the President of the Republic of Zambia. He is not the President of SADC, not even the President of SADC’s Organ Troika on Politics, Defence and Security, but only the current Chairperson of the Organ.

Yes, of course, it will not be the start or end of the world if President Hichilema do or does not attend President Mnangagwa’s swearing-in ceremony. Only a fool would suggest otherwise.

Indeed, it will not matter one bit if all or none of the other SADC leaders attend the ceremony.

“It’s now an open public secret that, as  the Chairperson of the Organ, President Hichilema appointed Dr Nevers Mumba in bad faith to head the SADC Election Observation Mission [SEOM] which made an outrageous Preliminary Statement on Zimbabwe’s 2023 harmonised general election which is full of untested hearsay, has an inconclusive conclusion, which is not supported by the statement’s hearsay narrative, and makes recommendations that are not in any way related to its scurrilous conclusion,” continued Professor Moyo, finally getting to the meat of his bitterness against President Hichilema.

Professor Jonathan Moyo has been fuming and frothing about the SEOM’s report ever since its release. The report state obvious things like the failure by ZEC to produce something even as basic as a verified voters’ roll, the widespread intimidation, etc.

SADC had known about all these flaws and illegalities all along and hence the reason why the regional body wanted Zimbabwe’s 2013 elections postponed until the reforms addressing these concerns were implemented. Sadly, Morgan Tsvangirai and his MDC leaders ignored the warning and participated in the 2013 elections with no reforms.

Zanu PF went on to rig the 2013 elections and SADC, in sheer despair, went on to grant the vote rigging Zanu PF political legitimacy.

Initially, Tsvangirai and company vowed they would not participate in future elections without first implementing the reforms. Greed got the better of them and they participated in the 2018 elections with not even a token reform in place. SADC, once again turned a blind eye to all the glaring flaws and illegalities and granted Zanu PF legitimacy.

Nelson Chamisa and his CCC friend and the rest of the opposition decided to participate in these 2023 elections knowing fully well the process is flawed, “so flawed, so illegal, that the only logical step was to withdraw”, as David Coltart, CCC Treasurer General and soon to be crowned Mayor of Bulawayo, admitted in his book. They also knew participating would give Zanu PF legitimacy. And still they soldiered on for the same reasons they had failed to implement even one reform during the 2008 to 2013 GNU – greed and breath-taking incompetence.

Professor Jonathan Moyo, President Mnangagwa and many in the SADC region including Chamisa and his CCC friends, expected Dr Nevers Mumba and his fellow SEOM members to follow the now well trodden path of seeing no evil, hearing no evil and saying no evil and thus endorse the 2023 as “substantially free and fair”.

SEOM condemned the elections as flawed and illegal and, per se, cannot produce a legitimate government was totally unexpected. Everyone knew the process is flawed and illegal and SEOM was supposed to ignore it!

Well the die has been cast, the gene is out of the bottle, SADC’s own election team has admitted the elections were flawed and illegal; the truth is out and it cannot be denied or put back in the bottle. Many wanted Zanu PF to continue rigging the elections and granted legitimacy regardless for their own selfish reasons.

For Zanu PF rigging the elections was the only sure way for the regime to retain its iron grip on power. After 43 years of enjoying absolute power and all the benefits that brings Mnangagwa and company are addicted to power, giving it up has become unthinkable.

For Nelson Chamisa and his MDC/CCC friends they failed to implement even one reform during the GNU. They have since given up on reforms and settled for participating in flawed elections for whatever spoils of power they can force from Zanu PF. Zanu PF has had to given up some gravy train seats to entice the opposition to participate for the sake of getting some political legitimacy.

SA’s ANC ruling party vowed to grant vote rigging Zanu PF political legitimacy to ensure there is no regime change in Zimbabwe. ANC Secretary General Fikile Mbalula, like Professor Jonathan Moyo have accused President Hichilema and those seeking free, fair and credible elections in Zimbabwe of seeking regime change for the purpose of removing Zanu PF and all liberation war founded party from office. Of course this is nonsense.

The idea that Zanu PF in Zimbabwe or ANC in SA, etc. have a divine right to rig elections to guarantee their stay in right is what is “wholly absurd and preposterous”! The people of Zimbabwe’s right to a meaningful say in the governance of the country is the supreme right here that must never ever be compromised or curtailed.

The right thing for President Hichilema, the rest of the SADC leaders and Zimbabwe’s own corrupt and incompetent opposition to do is stand up for the rule of law and the common people’s right to free and fair elections and refuse to attend Mnangagwa’s inauguration. Even if President Hichilema and a few others leaders attend the ceremony, the Mnangagwa presidency is still illegitimate!

Zimbabwe is a failed state, after 43 years of being stuck with this corrupt, incompetent and tyrannical Zanu PF regime complete with its entourage of corrupt and utterly useless opposition parties, the country is desperate for a way out of this hell-hole. Stopping Zanu PF rigging the elections is the key to getting out of this hell.

Dr Mumba’s report has forced SADC to face up the reality that Zanu PF has stayed in power these last 43 years by rigging elections. Denying Zanu PF legitimacy following the rigged 23 August elections will force Zimbabwe into a new GNU so the democratic reforms, which should have been implemented in the 2008 to 2013 GNU, can finally be implemented.

How can implementing the reforms to guarantee free, fair and credible  and thus cure ourselves of the curse of rigged elections and bad governance be a bad thing? Indeed, defending Dr Nevers Mumba’s SEOM report is the only thing worth dying for right now!

“Taxpayers’ Money Wasted”: Dr Stop It

My Dear People

The furore that has erupted from the sh0ck of the dispensation of darkness, poverty and confusion to the damning report by the Sadc observer mission over the farcical harmonised elections has shown that the clueless regime is in sixes and sevens.

The Sadc observer mission exposed in its report that the elections, characterised by the delayed delivery of ballots that resulted in some voting in the dark of night and the arrest of more than 40 election observers among other shenanigans, had fallen short of the requirements of the constitution of Zimbabwe, the Electoral Act and Sadc principles governing democratic elections.

The departure by the Sadc body from the normal rubberstamping of elections has resulted in turmoil with attacks and threats aimed at the head of the Sadc observer mission Never Mumba by the rattled Lacoste cabal with the state media even insinuating that the former Zambian vice president has mental problems. Munopenga!!!

However, to its credit, the observer mission has been unfazed by the infantile attacks by the Ngwena regime and have refused to back down pointing out that the report was not done by Mumba alone, but also by observers drawn from Angola, Botswana, Eswatini, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Tanzania and Zambia who were deployed across the length and breadth of the country during the polls.

It also called the attacks on Mumba “crude, scurrilous and misleading.”

The regime has seemingly noticed that unlike the country’s citizens whose rights they trample upon daily, the Sadc observer mission will not accept being treated like recalcitrant school kids by a government desperate for the validation of the shameful charade which were disguised as elections.

It is not surprising that the disgraceful conduct of the country’s elections that even raised concerns of the United Nations especially over the issues of voter intimidation and threats of violence, did not concern some of the individuals who contested for the presidential elections.

These individuals have conceded with haste as they called for the country to forge ahead and said they were putting the election behind them.

What led to these individuals to concede before even the results of a visibly sham election were announced? One would ask.

The answer of course was revealed by the state media, which told us that the gathering of political nonentities otherwise known as the Political Actors Dialogue (Polad) will continue to exist.

The likes of Trust and Lovemore, who got less votes nationally than most members of Parliament got from their constituencies, can hardly wait to once again be part of this grouping to get their grubby hands on trinkets such as vehicles handed out by Ngwena as reward for making the octogenarian leader feel good as they pretend to bring something meaningful to the table.

By participating in the presidential elections and conceding almost immediately, they have guaranteed themselves another five years of running out of superlatives as they tour Ngwena’s fish pond at his farm and receiving allowances for attending meetings and making recommendations, which will be totally ignored by the Lacoste cabal.

Sadly, taxpayers’ money is once again going to be wasted funding this useless gatherings of presidential candidates, most of whom garnered less than 1% of the vote.

What even makes it more galling is that all this money will go down the drain just to give a picture of the magnanimity of the Lacoste leader.

Such is the tragedy of this lot getting another five-year term.

Every cloud has a silver lining, as the saying goes and it is true even with this circus of an election.

As a result of these polls, the MDC-T led by Dougie Mwonzora has been totally eviscerated with no presence whatsoever in Parliament.

The party members who were brave or foolish enough to contest these elections failed to get 1000 votes, a damning indictment of the party’s irrelevance in the country’s body politic.

How ironic that Thokozani Khupe who was kicked out of the party’s leadership after losing to Mwonzora, is now a senator in Parliament as Dougie is left wallowing in the political wilderness.

It will be the first time since 1999 that there will be no representation of the MDC brand in Parliament, an indication of just how Mwonzora has destroyed the party.

Given his addiction to recall parliamentarians and councillors, the bespectacled fellow will suffer from withdrawal (no pun intended) symptoms and will probably now expend those energies by recalling members of his own party within the confines of Harvest House kkkk.

That he has now been reduced to calling for dialogue at press conferences calling for dialogue despite having taken control of the party headquarters and had access to the funding from the state, is a reflection of the rapid downfall of Mwonzora from the powerful position of secretary general of the then Morgan Tsvangirai-led MDCT to join the likes of perennial election loser Egypt Dzinemunhenzva on the political scrapheap.

I suggest Dougie starts offering lessons on how to kill a vibrant opposition party and he can huge amounts of money from the Lacoste cabal, which invests so much in silencing its critics.

Munopengaaaaaaaa!

Mnangagwa’s Inauguration Snubbed by SADC and AU Leaders as Election Fraud Claims Persist

Harare – In a surprising turn of events, leaders from the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the African Union (AU) have opted to send ministers instead of attending the inauguration ceremony of President Emmerson Mnangagwa. This decision comes amidst growing concerns and allegations of election fraud by international observer missions.

The inauguration, which was scheduled to take place today at the National Sports Stadium, was expected to be a grand event, with leaders from various African nations in attendance. However, the absence of high-ranking officials from SADC and the AU has raised eyebrows and cast a shadow over the legitimacy of the recent elections.

The observer missions, which included representatives from the European Union and the United States, have raised serious concerns over the conduct of the elections, citing irregularities and lack of transparency. These claims have been echoed by opposition parties and civil society organizations in Zimbabwe, who have called for an independent investigation into the alleged fraud.

The decision by SADC and the AU to send ministers instead of their respective heads of state has been seen by many as a clear indication of their reservations about the electoral process. It is a significant blow to President Mnangagwa, who had hoped to use his inauguration as a platform to showcase Zimbabwe’s commitment to democracy and international cooperation.

The absence of regional and continental leaders has also raised questions about the level of support and legitimacy President Mnangagwa enjoys among his peers. It is a stark contrast to the warm reception he received during his state visits to neighboring countries following his ascension to power last year.

The government has dismissed the allegations of election fraud, describing them as baseless and politically motivated. President Mnangagwa’s spokesperson, George Charamba, stated that the decision by SADC and the AU leaders to send ministers was a normal protocol and did not reflect any lack of confidence in the election outcome.

However, critics argue that the absence of high-profile leaders sends a strong message to the Zimbabwean government and raises doubts about the credibility of the electoral process. They argue that a thorough investigation into the allegations of fraud is necessary to restore faith in the democratic process and ensure a peaceful and inclusive Zimbabwe.

As the controversy surrounding the recent elections continues to unfold, it remains to be seen how President Mnangagwa’s government will address the concerns raised by international observers and opposition parties. The eyes of the nation and the international community are now fixed on Zimbabwe, waiting to see how the government will respond to these serious allegations.

In the meantime, the absence of SADC and AU leaders at the inauguration ceremony serves as a stark reminder that the road to legitimacy and international recognition for President Mnangagwa’s government may be more challenging than anticipated.

CCC Members Fined For Voting For Opposition

ByA Correspondent- A traditional leader has fined two Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) activists for defying a local headman‘s directive to vote for Zanu PF.

Brothers Knowledge and Solomon Tambwera were last Saturday dragged before Chief Muusha’s traditional court on charges of defying Charles Manzou’s directive to vote for the ruling party’s candidates in the August 23 to 24 harmonised elections.

Solomon said Manzou on August 20 called a meeting in the Mutsangani area where he lashed out against the CCC.

“At the meeting, the headman said he had been sent by Chief Muusha to order every villager in the ward to vote for Zanu PF,” Solomon said.

Solomon said he and his brother were forced to sleep in the bush for almost three days after receiving information that Zanu PF activists were baying for their blood for defying the directive.

On August 26, we received a letter from Chief Muusha ordering us to appear before his court to answer charges emanating from our protest at the meeting,” he said.

“When we attended the court, the chief claimed that we insulted him by refusing to heed headman Manzou’s order to vote for Zanu PF.

“After failing to prove the allegations, the chief with the concurrence of the headman fined us three goats for essentially exercising our democratic rights.

“We were given until the end of September to pay the fine.”

Solomon said he had reported the case to the police.

“I am appealing to human rights lawyers to assist us to fight this injustice,” he added.

Headman Manzou admitted holding a meeting on the eve of the harmonised elections with villagers, but refuted allegations he ordered people to vote for Zanu PF.

“I was sent by the chief to remind his people to vote,” he said.

“The chief told me that the directive came from (his seniors) above.

“At the meeting two young men challenged me and argued that what I was saying to them was not in order as it amounted to forcing people to vote against their will.

“I informed the chief about this and he in turn summoned the two young men to his court.

“He) felt insulted by the two’s actions of openly challenging his directive and fined them three goats.”

Chief Muusha confirmed that he fined the two brothers for “insulting” him, but could not say how they insulted him.

“It was not even clear what was said at the meeting but the headman told me that the two brothers told him that what he was telling them did not make sense and dismissed him,” Muusha said.

“They disrespected me by dismissing my headman.”

In June, the chief was reported to have also threatened his subjects with unspecified action if they voted for CCC during a meeting held at Muusha Primary School.

Another Murder in the CBD

By A Correspondent- Another body of a yet to be identified man was discovered in the central business district on Friday last week with his head crushed.

The body was discovered at corner Robert Mugabe and Innez Terrace street on Friday morning wrapped in sacks and cardboard boxes.

Passer-bys noticed a pool of blood from the “corpse” leading to the discovery of the man whose head was crushed by a huge boulder.

The development comes as last week Monday, the body of another unidentified man was found with missing parts on an island on Simon Muzenda Road, in a development that left many sh0cked.

The head of the deceased had reportedly been crushed and the chest opened.

The genitɑls had been removed and some parts of the brain were on the street. A used c0nd0m was found beside the body.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirmed the case, saying investigations had begun.

Rising cases of suspected ritual murders have left many disturbed throughout the country

Rising cases of suspected ritual murders have left many disturbed throughout the country.

Mystery still surrounds the whereabouts of the head of Tapiwa Makore, whose murder, some three years back, captured the attention of many.

The then-seven-year-old was murdered in Murewa by his uncle Tapiwa Makore senior and Tafadzwa Shamba, and was buried without a head.

The duo went on to be sentenced to death by the High Court, in July this year.

Makore (Junior) was said to have been sacrificed in a bizarre ritual to “boost” a cabbage business.

However, these are not isolated cases.

Last year, in Nyanga, two related seven-year-old minors were found dead in a disused house in the village, with their throats having been cut open and blood drained.

A few months ago, the nation was left in shock after Faith Musonza, who was a Hatfield Spar employee, was brutally killed. Her body was found dumped in a drainage close to her home, with nails and nipples missing.

Early last month, a dark cloud engulfed the Gokwe community after an artisanal miner was arrested for killing his 14-month-old baby, allegedly for the purpose of boosting his mining activities.

Thomas Muzenda is said to have, prior to the murder, approached a self-styled traditional healer, who instructed him to kill his daughter and harvest some body parts.

The authorities have since raised concern over the surging number of ghastly murder cases, most of which are ritual-related.

According to the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service (ZPCS), the number of people incarcerated for manslaughter rose from 630 to 845 between January and October 2021. By November last year, the figure had further increased to 984.

ZPCS said more than 30 percent of the cases were attributed to ritual purposes.

The Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency reveals that at least 40 percent of the 3 600 murder cases that were documented last year were alleged ritual slayings. Most of the cases are still before the courts.

“The prevalence of murder cases that are suspected to be for ritual purposes is worrying. Conclusive statistics are not readily available but barely two weeks pass by without a mysterious murder recorded across provinces.

“In most of these cases, the bodies are discovered with missing limbs, which begs the conclusion that the parts are harvested for ritual purposes,” said national police spokesperson Assistant Commission Paul Nyathi.

Causes

Ritual murder is generally defined as the sacrificial slaying of a human as a propitiatory offering to a deity. Body parts are harvested in the process.

Traditionalist Mbuya Calista Magorimbo opines ritual murder cases are a result of desperation for wealth, spiritual protection and, in some cases, quest for power.

However, she blamed bogus healers for promoting murder and harvesting of body parts.

“Ritual killings have existed since time immemorial, but these days, it is worse, maybe due to economic hardships. What is more disturbing is that even youths are now willing to commit such crimes, which was not the case back in the day. It was mostly the elders, our forefathers, who were accused of such ill practices,” said Mbuya Magorimbo.

Others commit such gruesome crimes in a bid to be healed from “mysterious” diseases.

“Some believe young children’s blood is pure, hence it heals certain ailments,” she added.

But Sekuru Nyanhewe, born Erick Chipeneti, dismisses the misplaced notion. He argues that such rituals do not work as murder is a sin in the local tradition, as well as in some religious circles.

“Murder is a grave sin that cannot attract positive results. Instead, it evokes ngozi (avenging spirit) and yields generational curses,” he said.

Sekuru Nyanhewe notes the disturbing trend, including increasing mental health cases, might be as a result of avenging spirits following crimes committed in the past.

“Sometimes, if you interrogate a murderer, they will tell you that they do not know why or how they committed the crime,” said the traditionalist.

“At times, the crime is committed while one is in a trance. These are manifestations of the grave crimes that were committed by their forefathers.”

The man believed to be Zimbabwe’s most prolific serial killer, Bright Zhantali, is among hundreds of inmates committed to the Chikurubi Maximum Security Prison’s psychiatric unit. They are classified as criminal mental patients.

Zhantali is accused of raping and killing 23 women during a year-long reign of terror that spanned Marondera, Goromonzi, Rusape, Mutare and Macheke.

Manjuzu craze

Anglican priest Father Edgar Sibiya added that mental health issues and poverty are the driving forces behind ritual murders.

He singled out the growing trend of “manjuzu” (marine spirit) as creating problems.

Manjuzu is derived from njuzu (mermaid), a mythical creature that is said to be half-human and half-fish.

The mermaid is believed to be the ruler of the underwater world, and possesses supernatural powers that can make people rich.

“The ‘manjuzu’ craze is affecting even teenagers. It generally entails sniffing snuff, smoking cigarettes and speaking in hushed tones because those who practise it want to remain shrouded in mystery.

“Essentially, we can call it a cult and their demands can even be extreme to the extent of demanding human body parts or blood, which is against biblical principles of valuing the sanctity of life,” said Fr Sibiya.

Psychology

Psychologist and University of Johannesburg post-doctoral researcher Dr John Ringson identifies several factors leading to ritual killings.

“There are a number of issues involved but it all goes back to the human mind. Economic hardships have left many people mentally unstable. Drug and substance abuse is also another factor contributing to increased murder cases, in general.

“Ritual murders do not work, sometimes things may coincidentally start to work out for someone and they are tempted to believe the rituals are working.

“However, the culprits often end up in sad situations, where they are left swimming in abject poverty or even attracting curses for future generations,” said Dr Ringson.

He criticised traditional healers for taking advantage of mentally unstable individuals.

“Poverty makes people vulnerable and gullible. They are forced to trust myths and rituals such as kuromba, which are believed to yield solutions to their problems.”

Remedy

While convicted perpetrators are receiving correctional services at various prison facilities, communities also need to be enlightened on the spiritual implications of such activities.

“There is a human element and a spiritual element to this issue, hence it has to be dealt with carefully,” said Headman Zvinowanda Pfumbidzai of Machera village in Hwedza.

“Appeasement rituals should be carried out when the victim is being buried to avoid future problems because an avenging spirit may go on to haunt the perpetrator or their family.”

Traditionally, he said, the wronged family conducts rituals to provoke the spirit of the deceased so that it goes back to the perpetrator’s family for revenge.

“It is advisable that even before or just after the funeral, both parties meet and find an amicable solution to the situation to avert future problems.

“Sometimes, a family may not know that their relative was murdered and the victim may communicate with their relatives in dreams and visions, which then helps locate their dead body,” added Headman Pfumbidzai.

When some body parts go missing and are never recovered, he reckons, the problem will persist.

“At times, some families end up forgiving the perpetrators while others prefer to let the dead fight from the grave.”

He added that, while ngozi still exists, most people are committing the ritual murder crimes for selfish reasons.

“The popular belief is that ngozi often affects future generations, so they do not really care what happens in the years to come, while others argue that it will affect every family member, not only the perpetrator,” he said.

Traditional leaders are now advocating enhanced child protection in their communities by agreeing on alternative means of resolving family disputes.

According to the Zimbabwe National Traditional Healers Association (ZINATHA), issues of ritual killings and how traditional beliefs can mislead people should be discussed at national level.

“Most people are tricked into this inhuman act by callous healers; they are made to believe that killing innocent children, especially their relatives, will bring them good fortunes.

“However, if any of our members is involved in such acts, we have a legal obligation to revoke their membership and have them prosecuted for that,” said ZINATHA.

The downside of this ill-practice in most families is that girls and women end up being a socially deprived group through the practice of forced marriages to appease (kuripa ngozi) the wronged spirit.

However, this is a criminal offence in Zimbabwe, although the fairer sex continues to suffer in silence because the practice is administered at the family level to resolve conflict.

Child protection advocate Chinga Govhati reckons the use of children for any cultural or religious practice is a short-sighted approach.

“Any form of culture or religion that causes and perpetuates harm is not a positive or good one. Most families do not realise that children are their future. When families give away their children in marriage or as payment of a debt, that is an investment lost,” said Govhati.

She notes that children from disadvantaged families are often pushed into forced marriages by their well-off relatives.

“Children are protected by various laws. At international level, the Convention on the Rights of the Child is key and at regional level, the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child protects children in Article 21, which provides for protection against harmful cultural and social practices.

“At national level, the most relevant document is the Constitution, which promotes holistic child protection in Section 81. Recently, we saw the new Marriages Act criminalising any form of child marriage in Section 3, as well as various other laws that protect children from such actions,” explained Govhati.

Investing in community education, she notes, will help create awareness among affected families and individuals.

“When you listen to stories of girls who escaped such harmful practices and how they are now reinvesting in those families, you realise how ignorance can adversely affect a family.

“It just does not make any sense that someone innocent has to be sacrificed for the actions of another. Issues need to be resolved by other means that do not violate someone else’s rights.”

Tribute To Heath Streak

FORMER Zimbabwe Cricket captain and coach, Heath Streak, who succumbed to cancer this Sunday morning was not only a Zimbabwean legend but also a player whose impact was felt globally.

Streak passed on at his farm outside Bulawayo aged 49 after losing a long battle with cancer.

Born on the 16th of March 1974 in Bulawayo, Heath Hilton Streak was a lion-hearted fast bowler with immense stamina and strength, who had the ability to bowl outswing at a good pace and with excellent control.

Heath had the ability to venture on one-man attacks and destroy teams as witnessed at Lords in 2000 against England, against South Africa at the 1999 World Cup among other devastating spells that he bowled.

In his decorated career, Streaky as he was affectionately known on the cricket field, played 65 test matches, picking up 216 wickets.

In the One Day International format, Streak featured in 189 matches, scalping 239 wickets with his best bowling figures being 5 for 32.

With the bat, Streak amassed 1,990 runs in the red-ball format, while in ODIs, he aggregated 2,934 runs.

While Zimbabwe cricket has boasted a fair number of all-rounders over the years, it is Streak who generally stands out among them.

He remains Zimbabwe’s all-time leading wicket-taker in both Test and One Day International cricket, both at an average under 30 and he is also the only Zimbabwean to have completed the double of 1000 Test runs and 100 Test wickets, and 2000 ODI runs and 200 ODI wickets.

Streak marked his arrival in the world of cricket with a stellar performance against Pakistan in 1993 capturing the headlines after picking up eight wickets in only his second Test in Rawalpindi.

Streak played a key role in leading Zimbabwe to their first away series win in 2001, blasting 79 runs off 67 balls in the decisive match at Eden Park to beat New Zealand 2-1.

He also played for various English County sides, as well as playing Franchise cricket across the world.

After playing his final international in 2005, Streak transitioned into coaching where he had two stints as Zimbabwe’s national head coach from 2009 to 2013 before coming back in 2016 and leading the Chevrons till 2018.

Outside of the Chevrons, Streak also worked as a bowling coach with the Indian Premier League side Kolkata Knight Riders in 2018, Bangladesh bowling coach as well as stints in the English county championship.

A native Ndebele speaker, Streak also showed his full talents outside of the cricket pitch when he appeared on TV commercials in the mid-1990s.

In 2014, Streak founded the Heath Streak Academy to aid the development and growth of cricket in Zimbabwe.

In 2021, he was banned for eight years after being charged with – and admitting to – five breaches of the ICC’s anti-corruption code.

However, he later said he was not involved in any attempts to fix matches, but he admitted to disclosing inside information pertaining to international games.

A fighting innings has come to an end, the umpire has raised the finger on Streaky, Zimbabwe’s best all-rounder.

May his soul rest in peace as he walks off the park.

Citizens Pile Pressure On Mnangagwa

Choose perks in Parliament\Council or the oppressed poverty-stricken masses! CCC Namibia echoes!

03 September 2023

Citizens in Namibia urge elected members of parliament and councilors in recent flawed elections to avert the temptation to defy the clarion call by the organic party to campaign for a fresh plebiscite. It is public knowledge that taking part in Parliament and Councils is tantamount to endorsing the illegitimate president who subverted the will of the citizenry.

CCC Namibia emphasizes that the pragmatic party is pro-poor hence the dire need to embrace social liberation policies. MPs and Councillors should speak audibly pronouncing the illegitimacy of Mr. Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa and his cabal. Citizens’ members of parliament must not accept a swearing-in ceremony administered by an unconstitutional president based on the scientific findings of the SADC Observer Mission, AU, Carter, EU, ZESN, ERC, etc. The various observer missions noted intimidation of voters by FAZ, suppression of the vote in Harare, Bulawayo, and Manicaland, abuse of the Constitution and the electoral law as well as the SADC principles and guidelines on democratic elections.

At this juncture, we anticipate that elected MPs and Councillors should brace for participatory democracy demanding fresh elections conducted by an independent electoral commission since Zec has dismally failed to pass integrity, accountability, and transparency tests. We can’t continue with coercion, intimidation, politically motivated violence, banning of political rallies, and voter suppression that breed illegitimacy. As a party, we should avoid elements of political greed as a way of amplifying our voices demanding fresh free, fair, credible, and unfettered elections in Zimbabwe.

After the rigged 2018 elections, the people’s MPs tried in vain to confront the illegitimacy of Mr. Mnangagwa but were marred by the Supreme Court judgment of March 2020. It was unfortunate that ZANU-PF-controlled Mwonzora began to illegally recall our MPs one by one. This time around the party should make sure that the gold mafia president does not swear in any CCC member of parliament. All duly declared MPs and councilors must resist belly politics reflecting their commitment and dedication to prosecuting the national democratic revolution to its logical conclusion.

Elected legislators should reject endorsing this coup on the ballot by Zec and their ZANU-PF handlers. Advocates of Social Democracy must choose the side of the victimized people of Zimbabwe who were denied their constitutional right to vote for various leaders of their choice without coercion. One-Man One-Vote was the main reason why the Chitepos and Tongogaras launched the protracted war of liberation. It is now imperative to learn from Mwonzora and the cabal who are enduring the cold. They chose their stomachs ahead of the electorate. CCC Namibia pledges to stand with principled legislators and councilors.

The temptation of diplomatic passports, cars, loans, and other perks should not derail our struggle for socio-economic transfiguration in a New Great Zimbabwe led by none other than the change champion in chief, President Advocate Nelson Chamisa. Change champions should bear in mind that this is the only opportunity for us to win Zimbabwe for a complete change with the assistance of SADC and AU. The decision by SADC and AU not to endorse and sign shambolic elections must be applauded. We salute Dr. Nevers Mumba and his great team of varlour for resisting ZANU-PF bullying.

Choose perks in Parliament or the oppressed people who endure abject poverty due to the legitimacy crisis in Zimbabwe! So far Hon Fadzayi Mahere, Hon Happymore Chidziva only to mention a few have already indicated their preparedness to set aside their resounding victories against all odds in solidarity with the rigged legislators in Manicaland, Harare, and the countryside where command voting was prevalent perpetrated by FAZ and traditional leaders.

Wamwari Devine Chaminuka Mafa: Shaping Zim’s Path to Democracy, Economic Development

Wamwari Devine Chaminuka Mafa is a name that resonates with the pursuit of democracy and economic prosperity in Zimbabwe. In 2017, during a momentous period in Zimbabwean history, Wamwari Devine Chaminuka Mafa emerged as a principled voice advocating for adherence to the rule of law and democratic values. His unwavering commitment to these principles has continued to shape the nation’s trajectory.

The 2017 removal of Robert Mugabe from power was a pivotal moment, with the world watching closely. It was anticipated to mark a turning point in Zimbabwe’s turbulent journey towards democracy, where democratic principles and the rule of law would take center stage. Yet, recent events have cast a shadow over these aspirations, revealing a complex landscape of political maneuvering.

Wamwari Devine Chaminuka Mafa’s principled stance was clear: elections featuring Mugabe and the opposition should proceed, irrespective of the political landscape. In a time of uncertainty, his commitment to the rule of law stood out as a rare conviction, a North Star guiding Zimbabwe through tumultuous waters.

However, the optimism of 2017 , now 2023 has given way to doubts about Zimbabwe’s true commitment to democracy. Reports of irregularities during the recent electoral process have raised valid concerns about the fairness of the election. Instances of late-opening polling stations and questions regarding the accuracy of the vote count have sown seeds of doubt and discord. While there hasn’t been a formal call for a recount, the controversies surrounding the election have been deeply divisive.

These issues transcend Zimbabwe’s borders; they touch upon the fundamental principles of democracy, transparency, and accountability upheld by the international community. This isn’t merely an internal matter; it’s a global concern.

Wamwari Devine Chaminuka Mafa’s principled stance underscores a critical point: adherence to the rule of law must form the bedrock of Zimbabwe’s democratic journey. The nation must rise above its history of political expediency, where rule violations were often tolerated for political gains.

The international community should take notice of this situation. While there’s no one-size-fits-all solution, zero tolerance for violations of democratic principles is paramount. The events of 2017 and the subsequent years serve as a stark reminder that democracy cannot thrive when its fundamental tenets are compromised.

Wamwari Devine Chaminuka Mafa’s vision of adhering to the rule of law, even in the face of political turmoil, shines as a guiding light. It reminds Zimbabwe that the rule of law must always prevail. Upholding democratic values and institutions is the surest path to a brighter and more stable future, where the will of the people is genuinely reflected in the nation’s leadership.

About ZEM:

Wamwari Devine Chaminuka Mafa’s dedication to Zimbabwe’s economic development is commendable. His vision, as outlined in the Zimbabwe Economic Movement’s manifesto, reflects a deep understanding of the crucial elements needed for the country’s progress. Here’s a breakdown of the key points from the manifesto:

**1. Economic Development:** The primary objective is to promote economic development, recognizing its vital role in improving the well-being of citizens.

**2. Employment:** The manifesto emphasizes job creation and entrepreneurship as essential for ensuring that every Zimbabwean has the opportunity to earn a decent living.

**3. Agriculture:** Acknowledging agriculture as a backbone of the economy, the movement aims to modernize this sector, promote value addition, and ensure food security.

**4. Infrastructure:** Prioritizing investment in infrastructure development, including transport, energy, and telecommunications, to facilitate economic growth.

**5. Education:** Recognizing the importance of education in a modern economy, the movement commits to investing in education and training programs.

**6. Healthcare:** Prioritizing investment in healthcare infrastructure and services to ensure access to quality healthcare for all citizens.

**7. Anti-Corruption:** A strong stance against corruption, with a commitment to promoting transparency, accountability, and ethical behavior in society.

**8. Human Rights:** A focus on promoting and protecting human rights, including those of women, children, and vulnerable groups.

**9. Unity:** Acknowledging Zimbabwe’s diversity and the importance of promoting unity and social cohesion while celebrating differences.

**10. Democracy:** A commitment to democratic principles, good governance, and ensuring equal rights and opportunities for all citizens.

This manifesto provides a clear roadmap for addressing the economic and social challenges facing Zimbabwe. Wamwari Devine Chaminuka Mafa’s leadership in advocating for these principles and the Zimbabwe Economic Movement’s dedication to a prosperous, inclusive, and sustainable future for the country is a positive step forward. It’s an invitation for all Zimbabweans to unite and work towards a brighter future.

ZANU PF Youth Rewarded After Assaulting ZEC Staff Member

Disqualified ZANU PF Aspiring MP Returns Through Youth Quota System After Assault Incident

Kudakwashe Damson, a ZANU PF aspiring Member of Parliament (MP), who was previously disqualified for assaulting a Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) official, has made an unexpected comeback through the ruling party’s youth quota system. Damson, who had been eyeing the Epworth parliamentary seat, was disqualified from ZANU PF primary elections due to an assault incident involving a Zec official during a voter education campaign in Epworth earlier this year.

Kudakwashe Damson

Damson had faced charges of violating the Electoral Act after disrupting Zec proceedings and was granted bail following the incident. The incident took place near Kubatana Primary School in Epworth, where Zec officials were conducting voter education. Damson allegedly disrupted the program and assaulted Zec officials Alerta Madzivanyika and Mercy Mutendedzwa, while also tearing the Zec bib worn by Benard Gwishiri. Tendai Matauya managed to escape the assault by quickly removing her Zec bib.

Despite his disqualification from primary elections, Damson’s name surprisingly appeared in the Government Gazette Extraordinary as an elected Metropolitan Provincial Council member under the youth quota system. This move has sparked speculation about the party’s internal dynamics and its approach to rewarding members.

Notably, President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s son, David Kudakwashe, and Justice Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi’s son, Carl Mutsawashe, have also benefited from the youth quota system. Mnangagwa secured seven youth representatives in Parliament through his win in seven provinces. The political landscape in Zimbabwe continues to evolve with these developments, showcasing the intricate dynamics within ZANU PF.

Political analyst Rejoice Ngwenya highlighted that ZANU PF has a pattern of rewarding its members and suggested that there might be underlying political dynamics at play, similar to how “Banana republics” reward close allies and family members.

As ZANU PF employs the youth quota system to bring individuals back into the fold despite past controversies, the political landscape in Harare Metropolitan Province, which is dominated by the Citizen Coalitions for Change (CCC), remains dynamic and subject to ongoing shifts in representation and power.- Agencies/ZIANA

ZANU’s FAZ Terrorists Block Tapiwa Makore’s Father’s CCC Win

Grief and Defeat: Tapiwa Makore’s Father Confronts Harassment and Loss in Rural Elections

In a tragic turn of events, Munyaradzi Makore, father of the late slain toddler Tapiwa Makore, faced further distress as he entered the political arena only to be defeated in the recent rural elections. Grieving the cruel loss of his son, Makore sought solace in politics by standing as an opposition candidate for a council seat in rural Murewa. However, his hopes were dashed as he suffered defeat at the hands of the ruling party, Zanu PF.

The wounds of Makore’s family were still fresh from the harrowing murder of his eight-year-old son, Tapiwa, in September 2020. The perpetrators, including Makore’s own family members, committed the heinous act for ritual purposes, leaving the community in shock and mourning. Despite a death sentence being passed on the culprits, Makore’s heartache could not be healed. Turning to politics, he hoped to find some semblance of justice and purpose.

Makore’s aspirations to win the council seat were met with challenges, as he accused the Forever Associates of Zimbabwe (FAZ) of intimidating voters, leading to his loss in the polls. He expressed his frustration, stating that voters were monitored at polling stations, which influenced the outcome in favor of Zanu PF. Despite his efforts, Makore lost to Zanu PF’s candidate, Anyway Nheweyembwa, who secured over 1,000 votes compared to Makore’s count.

This bitter defeat in the elections has left Makore grappling with his next steps. While he pins his hopes on a potential challenge to overturn the election results and trigger a fresh poll, he also contemplates his political future. The grief-stricken father acknowledges that he will decide on his next move based on the unfolding circumstances, showing the resilience and uncertainty he faces.

As the High Court Judge Munamato Mutevedzi’s decision on the Makore murder case could not fully mend the wounds of the past, the 2023 elections have opened a new chapter of pain for Munyaradzi Makore. The hopes of finding solace through political victory were dashed, and the journey ahead remains uncertain.- Agencies

Petrol Tank Bursts Fuel Depot

BULAWAYO – A devastating explosion rocked the Kelvin West industrial area in Bulawayo yesterday as a petrol storage tank erupted in flames, triggering a raging fire that left a trail of destruction in its wake. The incident occurred at a fuel storage depot operated by Cleaver Investment along Khami Road, next to the District Development Fund now RIDA depot.

Eyewitnesses recounted the horrifying scene as the explosion sent flames soaring into the sky, prompting pedestrians and motorists along Khami Road to flee in panic. The intense fire quickly engulfed the surroundings, leaving vehicles and property within its reach reduced to charred ruins.

In a grim turn of events, a fuel tanker belonging to Multi-movers was also consumed by the fire. The tanker had reportedly been at the depot to load fuel before the incident occurred. Admire, one of the owners of the fuel truck, expressed devastation as he described the situation. “This fuel truck which has been reduced to a shell is ours. It had come here to load fuel for further distribution,” said Admire.

Bulawayo Fire Brigade’s swift response played a critical role in containing the inferno, despite the risks posed by the presence of other fuel tankers. The fire brigade’s efforts were hampered by the danger posed by the burning storage tank, leading to a cautious approach to extinguishing the flames. The crowd of onlookers that gathered at the scene braved the potential danger, swelling as the fire brigade teams fought to bring the situation under control.

Approximately 30 minutes after arriving on the scene, the fire brigade managed to subdue the fire, allowing people to cautiously retrieve property from the affected offices and vehicles within the premises. The incident has left the community in shock, and exaggerated versions of the event rapidly circulated throughout the city center.

The cause of the explosion and subsequent fire remains under investigation, as authorities work to assess the extent of the damage and ensure the safety of the area. This unfortunate incident serves as a stark reminder of the potential risks associated with fuel storage and distribution, underscoring the importance of stringent safety measures in such environments.- state media

Chigumba “Steals” People’s Victory

Tinashe Sambiri

The Citizens Coalition for Change has declared that Zanu PF leader Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa’s attempt to thwart the will of the people is futile.

In a statement CCC Namibia commended SADC for refusing to endorse stolen polls.

Mr Mnangagwa’s victory has been widely rejected by local and international observers.

See CCC Namibia statement below:

CCC Namibia lauds 13 out of 16 SADC countries that didn’t endorse sham elections!

01 September 2023

Citizens resident in Namibia are quite exhilarated by the gesture from all SADC countries except Namibia, South Africa, and Tanzania of standing firm in solidarity with the objective and scientific SADC Observer Mission. Change champions and all progressive Zimbabweans across the globe are celebrating the historic decision by the regional body to promote free, fair, credible, and unfettered elections in the motherland.

What perturbs citizens in Namibia is that ZANU-PF has to get angry on behalf of the purported independent Zimbabwe Electoral Commission(Zec)! It has become clear to the entire world that the Electoral Commission takes instructions from the Shake-Shake Building. Zimbabwe needs an independent body that runs elections respecting the Supreme statute of the country, the Electoral Act, and the SADC guidelines and principles governing democratic elections in the region.

Following the abuse of the Constitution and electoral laws of the fatherland, SADC refused to endorse and sign the shambolic elections. Only three heads of state namely President Cyril Ramaphosa, South Africa, President Hage Geingob, Namibia, and the President of Tanzania, Samia Suluhu Hassan have endorsed the unconstitutional plebiscite. Zimbabweans in Namibia urge the three leaders to respect the people of Zimbabwe by advocating for a fresh poll bereft of coercion, intimidation, state-sponsored torture, illegal detentions of opposition activists, abuse of the electoral laws, and state capture of the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission.

It is now beyond any doubt that these African leaders who have endorsed sham elections benefit from the suffering of Zimbabweans. They have displayed their zeal to see our economy on its knees. It is a public fact that Zimbabweans are suffocating the economies of their neighboring countries such as South Africa and Namibia due to bad governance manifesting in the perennial legitimacy crisis in the country. We are cognizant of the fact that some of these leaders are accomplices in the gold, diamond, platinum, and lithium smuggling in Zimbabwe. The endorsers of disputed elections are trying to protect their illicit deals with the corrupt and politically inept Harare regime.

Furthermore, citizens in Namibia suppose that all African leaders in SADC and beyond should embrace the report that came from the delegation dispatched by the organic President of Zambia, Haikande Hichilema( the current SADC Chairperson) to observe elections on the 23rd of August 2023. We salute the Head of the Objective SADC Observer Mission, Dr. Nevers Mumba, and the AU Head, Goodluck Jonathan for resisting bullying from the unpopular party that has failed dismally to put the economy on a sounder footing. It is now imperative to support democratic elections that reflect the will of the people to avert coups and counter-coups in SADC and beyond as in the recent case of Gabon.

The case of Zimbabwe is not unique! Coups emanate from disputed elections. Our country deserves a fresh poll administered by an independent commission that is not compromised by the state.

Namibia, South Africa, and Tanzania should prefer citizens to greedy selfish leaders who have an insatiable appetite to subvert the voice of the people. Life in the diaspora is not easy for many of the economic refugees! Most of us are surviving on menial jobs regardless of the qualifications we possess. Professionals are selling cockroach poison, mops, brooms, and second-hand apparel on the streets of Johannesburg, Windhoek, Maputo, Francis Town, etc. As a people, we can settle for the better with the support of SADC countries.

Instead of supporting those who have started our country down the slopes of hyperinflation and gross abuse of universal basic human rights, Fikile Mbalula, President Hage Geingob, President Ramaphosa, and the President of Tanzania should choose to side with the oppressed people of Zimbabwe.

It is astounding that what they support in Zimbabwe does not transpire in their countries before, during, and post-election. Zimbabweans suffer unprecedented xenophobic attacks across SADC and beyond, it is now or never for the country to enjoy one-man one vote 43 years after attaining political independence in 1980 from Ian Douglas Smith.

In a nutshell, the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) Namibia encourages the three Presidents to revisit the report that unravels rigging shenanigans orchestrated by the unpopular autocratic party through Zec. Zimbabweans need SADC, AU, EU, and the UN to press for free, fair, and credible elections.

ZANU PF Presidential candidate Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa knows that his politically bankrupt party cannot win peaceful and fair elections in Zimbabwe. CCC has emerged as the new headache for the gold mafia regime under the pragmatic leadership of President Advocate Nelson Chamisa.

Despite all odds, the people of Zimbabwe voted for President Advocate Nelson Chamisa because he has the potential to bring socio-economic transfiguration to the country. It is against this clear background that Zec chose to announce fake results declaring Mr. Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa as the President-elect.

Zimbabweans are languishing in abject poverty due to ZANU-PF looting which is why it is hypnotizing and transfixing to have congratulatory messages directed to the author of our economic, social, and political woes. We demand a fresh poll!

The issue of political prisoners should also be dealt with once and for all. Since the 14th of June 2022, CCC Vice-Chairperson, Hon Job Saro Wiwa Sikhala has endured a long pre-trial detention caged at Chikurubi Maximum Security Prison for fighting against the state-machinated abductions and enforced disappearances.

Moreblessing Ali who was gruesomely murdered by a renowned ZANU PF thug, Pius Jamba in Nyatsime is not yet buried! This level of satanism cannot be sanitized by a right-thinking citizen of the globe. CCC Namibia demands justice for Sikhala, Ali family, Jacob Ngarivhume, all victims of post-election abductions and torture.

Key Facts About EIA And Mining

Environmental impact assessment

In response to a misprint where we said EIAs or Environmental impact assessment is done by Ministry of Mines instead of the Environmental Management Agency consultant, we will briefly outline the process and requirements.

For the record, EIA
is done by EMA through registered agents.

Inorder to get an EIA certificate that outlines how you will manage the environment where you conduct your project to satisfaction of EMA requirements you must follow the following requirements.

You must have a registered mine with work approved by the Ministry of Mines . From there you choose a consultant qualified to do so approved by the ministry of mines who understands the laws of the country especially to do with Environmental management.

When he/she starts the process, she calculates the total project cost and send to EMA for billing then they will charge you a small percentage for you to proceed with your consultations .

Then there is consultation phase where you consult in writing key stakeholders depending on location but the following are there everywhere in the country
1 District administration
2 Rural district council and
3 ZINWA
4 Forestry commission
5 Agritex
6 ZRP
7 local communities x 15
These above stakeholders have their own requirements inorder to fill the form given to them and comment .

After these consultations have been a book is compiled and submitted to EMA for proper assessment before it is approved if meets the standard of Environmental management then a certificate will be issued giving permission to proceed with the intended project.

However as you continue more licensing is required depending on activities you are carrying out .

For your EIAs we have a consultant who does at affordable prices compared to the rest of consultants across the country as low as 1000usd depending on project specifications.

Chigumba Under Fire For Stealing People’s Victory

ED Threatens To Jail Chamisa

By- Zanu PF President Emmerson Mnangagwa has threatened to jail opposition activists if they stage protests against last week’s election results.

Mnangagwa gave the threats, saying, “Our prisons are not full”, reported .
Addressing scores of delegates and party supporters at the commissioning of the Sabi Star Lithium Floatation Plant in Buhera on Thursday, 31 August, Mnangagwa said:
We will not stop our development plans and programmes because of the noise from some little boys. They will continue making noise, but we shall continue to move on.
… But I warn anybody who may want to be nonsensical and bring chaos in this country, we are ready to deal with any chaos.
Whoever will preach hate speech shall be responsible for their hate speech. Our prisons are not full. We want peace, we want unity.
Responding to Mnangagwa’s warning, CCC spokesperson Promise Mkwananzi said the President-elect is unfit to govern. He said:
We are considering approaching the Constitutional Court in respect of these utterances.
As a de facto President, Mr. Mnangagwa is compelled by the constitution to uphold peace, protect the constituency and any failure to do so may warrant an impeachment.
In addition to the fact that he lost the elections, Mr. Mnangagwa’s utterances show that he is unfit to govern.
Mnangagwa garnered 52.6% of the vote against CCC presidential candidate Nelson Chamisa’s 44%, but the latter has rejected the results alleging rigging.
Meanwhile, Mnangagwa will be sworn in as Zimbabwe’s leader for a second and final term on 04 September.
A circular issued by Foreign Affairs and International Trade permanent secretary, James Manzou dated August 31, 2023, and addressed to Heads of Missions, indicates that Mnangagwa has already sent out invitations to world leaders to attend the event.

Zimbabwean Named In 18 Gunned-Down Cash-In-Transit Robbers

By-The National Commissioner of the SA Police Service (SAPS), General Fannie Masemola, said the 18 cash-in-transit robbers killed by the police Friday in Limpopo were shot dead at a house belonging to a Zimbabwean national.

General Masemola, told NewzRoom Afrika that the Zimbabwean national used to host parties at the house every weekend.

He said police believed they had “broken the back of a syndicate” that was possibly responsible for a number of cash-in-transit (CIT) heists in Limpopo Mpumalanga, and Gauteng.

Speaking about Friday’s incident, Masemola said various units within the SAPS were keeping an eye on a group of suspects who were allegedly planning a CIT heist in Limpopo.

“The observation was made for a number of days before they pounced on an identified address in Makhado today (Friday).

“As soon as police approached the address, the group of suspects began shooting, and police retaliated.”

Masemola said a total of 16 men and two women were declared dead on scene.

“At a second address in Thohoyandou, four suspects were arrested.”

Police seized seven automatic rifles and ten vehicles, including several high-powered performance vehicles.

“Various policing experts are still combing the scene.”

Masemola said a senior police officer attached to the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (known as the Hawks) was wounded during the shootout and is currently receiving medical care in hospital.

During the delegation of senior police officers at the crime scene, Masemola said police were clamping down on serious and violent crimes throughout the country.

“We will continue to heighten police visibility throughout the country. We do believe this syndicate has been involved in a number of cash-in-transit heists in this province (Limpopo), Mpumalanga, and Gauteng,” concluded Masemola.

The National Head of the Hawks, Lieutenant General Godfrey Lebeya, said this is the culmination of a major investigation that began as early as January.

Zimbabweans Begin Great Trek To South Africa

Some Zimbabweans have started to make the trek out of the country after recent general elections gave the ruling Zanu-PF another term in office and widespread skepticism that the struggling economy and hyper-inflation can be turned around soon.

Wellington Chitembu, 43, told TimesLIVE he is leaving because he wants to improve the lives of his children.

“We are suffering. I have three children and l am struggling to look after them. I can’t pay their school fees and l can’t afford to put food on the table. Life has been very difficult and I thought the election was going to bring change, hope for the future, but it’s just another disputed election.

“I have never been so certain about leaving Zimbabwe as l am now. I am a civil servant and my salary is barely enough to look after my family.

“I am leaving for dignity because as a man l should be able to look after my family and give them a better life. I want to rid my family of this poverty. I have family members in South Africa, I want a good future for my children and across the border l am certain l will find it,” said Chitembu.

Tererayi Chisomba, 34, a mother of two, said she plans to leave for the UK to find employment in care work.

“I have held on until now and no longer can. I have to leave. There is no future here. I wake up every day feeling hopeless. I want to give a good life to my little girls, but if l remain in this country it won’t happen,” she said.

“I have a university degree, but I am going to the UK as a care worker. I am selling everything, including household furniture, and borrowing money from relatives to raise for the visa fees and air tickets. Whatever it takes, I am leaving.”

Margaret, 28, who wanted to use only her first name because she doesn’t have a passport or a final destination, said she will go where she can find work.

“There is no life in Zimbabwe. I have never had a job. l am leaving because l want to be able to look after myself. My parents are struggling and l can’t continue to put a burden on them to look after me and my siblings. It’s better to go, find a job and send money back to my parents.

“I have a friend in South Africa and she lives somewhere in Johannesburg. She told me if I come she will help me look for a job. I know going without papers or a passport is dangerous, but l am willing take my chances. I will go through the Limpopo River, risking my life to the crocodiles and police.”

United Kingdom Calls For Restraint And Dialogue In Zimbabwe

HARARE – The United Kingdom’s minister for Africa Andrew Mitchell has echoed the wide negative sentiment raised over the conduct of the just-ended Zimbabwean elections but urged restraint and dialogue among hostile forces within country’s political arena.

Zimbabwe’s poll, which restored Zanu PF’s majority in parliament and incumbent President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s rule, was largely condemned by both local and international observers for failure to meet the dictates of the national constitution as well as set regional benchmarks governing the conduct of free and fair elections.

Mitchell said in a statement that he shares the views of observer groups.

He said the Zimbabwean poll was fraught with administrative flaws which included limited transparency from the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC), lack of a level playing field, passing of repressive laws, inordinate delays in the opening of some polling stations, and reports of intimidation on voters.

“The UK takes note of the announcement by the Chair of the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission of results on 26 August.

“However, we are concerned by a lack of transparency in the tallying of results, as well as the arrests of domestic observers.

“We urge all parties and citizens to continue to follow constitutional processes in the coming weeks, allow space for inclusive dialogue, and act with restraint,” he said.

The main opposition CCC has threatened rolling protests to demand poll re-run.

In a related development, the Carter Center has also added to calls for ZEC to release raw election data from polling stations to authenticate results announced after the poll.

In its preliminary report, it said the plebiscite was held in a restricted political environment and that ZEC lacked independence and transparency in key areas, undermining the credibility of the process.

“Overall, the Center concluded that the 2023 electoral process did not adequately respect Zimbabwe’s regional and international commitments for democratic and inclusive elections, which made it difficult for contestants to compete on an equal basis and prevented the genuine expression of the will of the Zimbabwean people,” said the Centre.

“Given the highly polarized post-election environment and lack of trust among political stakeholders, the Center stressed that it is critical that the electoral commission publish detailed results at the polling-station level on a timely basis so that political parties and observers can cross-verify the results, in accordance with international best practice, to help ensure the transparency and credibility of the election process,” it said.

ZEC has however shrugged off demands for it to publish raw data contained in V11 forms from polling stations.

Teachers For ED In Rigging Storm

Ward 27, Gutu South, the only rural seat the opposition never lost in Masvingo in the last 20 years went to Zanu PF this year after all presiding officers deployed were leading members for Teachers for ED.

These are reportedly Alfred Mawere also provincial chairman for Teachers for ED (Gono Polling Station), Violet Mawere also Women’s League (Guni Primary), Chiminya (Mazare Polling Station) & Tias Chapfuwa (Chitenderano). The Ward had a record 532 assisted voters estimated at 30% of total electorate in the ward. All assisted voters were reportedly helped by the presiding officers. The election has been condemned as a sham by all regional and international observer missions, the first such for Zim.

Who Is The Right Candidate For Warriors Job?

The Normalisation Committee took office exactly 50 days ago, following FIFA’s decision to lift the suspension on Zimbabwe, to the delight of football stakeholders in the country.

The five-member Committee was appointed by the world governing body to run the affairs of the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) until July next year.

The The committee was tasked with restructuring the ZIFA administration, reviewing the troubled association’s statutes and electoral code to ensure compliance with FIFA statutes, to act as an electoral committee in order to organise and conduct new board elections, as well as ensuring proper financial handover.

Initially, the committee had four members —chairman Lincon Mutasa, former Highlanders defender Sikhumbuzo Ndebele, former Mighty Warriors coach Rosemary Mugadza, and legal practitioner Nyasha Sanyamandwe.

FIFA then beefed it up by adding chattered accountant Cynthia Malaba, who assumed the role of vice chairperson.

The first thing done by the committee was to appoint a new referees’ committee —headed by former match official Norman Matemera.

Faith Sibanda was ropped in as Matemera’s deputy, while Stella Ruvinga, Kuda Rusina and Tendai Bwanya assumed the role of committee members.

A good start by the Mutasa-led Normalisation Committee, some felt, based on how scandalous match officiating has become in Zimbabwe, especially in the Csstle Lager Premier Soccer League.

While the committee can operate anyhow it pleases, the snail pace at which it has been preparing for the Warriors’ return to international football, is worrying to say the least.

The country’s senior men’s national soccer team is scheduled to take part in the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers between September 22-24.

The Normalisation Committee advertised positions for all national teams coaches and promised the nation that a technical committee will be appointed to choose the successful candidates.

The committee made a mess of the adverts and appeared to be unknowledgable of CAF requirements as far as the appointment of coaches for national teams is concerned.

According to the continental governing body, only holders of the the CAF A and UEFA Pro Licence qualify to coach national teams, but the Normalisation Committee listed UEFA A as qualification for interested candidates, meaning it can hire a coach who may end up not sitting on the bench.

But that is now water under the bridge, what’s more important is that an advert was flighted and there has been an encouraging response.

“We want to have a database of all applicants so that we can let the Technical Committee to choose the best candidate, we have more than 200 applicants,” said Mutasa earlier this month.

Less than a month before the CHAN qualifiers though, no Warriors coach has been appointed.

In fact, even the Technical Committee has not been appointed.

When Mutasa was sought for a comment last week, he said the Normalisation Committee will appoint a new coach for the Warriors in two weeks time.

Simply put, whorever is appointed Warriors coach will have less than 10 days to assemble a team and prepare for the CHAN qualifiers.

Moreover, since it took office 50 days, the Normalisation Committee has never had a media briefing to provide updates on its activities or clarify its mandate.

Will the committee fulfill all its duties? Only time will tell.-Soccer24 News

Benza Shines

Innocent Benza has set and broken his own records over the past five years.

And he is still in the same trajectory.

The reserved 51-year-old Herentals president and striker spent the first 44 years of his life outside the public eye.

Despite running the sprawling Herentals Group of Colleges and Schools, Benza only rose to prominence when he made his Premiership debut at the age of 46 following the elevation of his team in 2018.

He earned plaudits and rebuke in equal measure but he is too passionate to consider the downside of things when it comes to football.

That he plays alongside his son Tinotenda-a first in the local Premiership pushes him more.

No one before him has ever played Premiership football at the age of 46. And each year after 2018, he has been breaking the records he sets at the beginning of each term.

At 51, he is arguably the oldest professional footballer in Africa.

He also remains the oldest goal scorer in the local Premiership having fired one past Chapungu in 2019 when defying everything including the second season syndrome.

And last week, he became the first footballer in this country to be a parliamentary.

Benza contested for the Mutasa Central Constituency in the harmonised elections held last Wednesday and he came out tops.

Three days later, he was leading The Students in their match-day 20 fixture against Manica Diamonds at Gibbo.

Herentals failed to spice their proprietor’s celebrations after settling for just a point against a team chasing for the championship.

Benza played for 45 minutes in that game with players from both sides saluting him after playing his first match as a parliamentarian elect.

“It gives me great joy and pride to have had what’s in my plate right now,” Benza said.

“It has been my dream to be a parliamentarian one day. I am very humbled for seeing it through.

“I would like to salute people in Mutasa Central Constituency for voting for me. I can’t thank them enough.

“And on Sunday, I was very humbled to see Herentals and Manica Diamonds players congratulating me during our league match. We would have wanted to win that game but a draw wasn’t that bad after all”.

Benza, who bankrolls the Premiership team, Herentals Queens, Herentals U20 in the first division and Herentals D2 sides has also established another Division 2 based in his constituency.

Perhaps it is this selflessness that won him the hearts of people in Mutasa Central.

“I don’t really expect rewards when I do things. I love sport and draw a lot of joy seeing people enjoying themselves playing sport,” Benza said.

“We have several professional teams and we have also established academies for different sport codes at our schools and colleges.

“My hope is to see sport growing so much that Zimbabwe becomes a powerhouse in more than just one sport code.

“I believe that sport is a very big industry that can employ hundreds of thousands if not millions of people if run well.

“I am going to give sport a voice in parliament and hopefully things will move the way sport stakeholders want to see them moving”.

Benza said he is not going to hang up his playing boots as yet.

“I have said this before. I am going to play football for as long as my legs can carry me. I love this game so much and I train every day to condition my body for this game.

“I am not resting as yet. I am enjoying the game now more than ever before. Football is something I grew up playing and I am still in the game”.

Benza, who is also an academic has provided four assists this season.-Soccer24 News

Africa’s Climate Narrative

MEDIA STATEMENT: AFRICA’S CLIMATE

A TIME TO CHANGE AFRICA’S CLIMATE NARRATIVE

1 September 2023: As African leaders gather in Nairobi to discuss the escalating climate crises, urgent action is mandatory to mitigate its effect on the whole world. The One Campaign is urging all leaders to use this pivotal moment to unite around a shared pan-African agenda – one that brings justice and prosperity.

The Africa Climate Summit themed “Driving Green Growth and Climate Finance Solutions for Africa and the World” will also provide African leaders the platform to challenge narratives and perceptions of Africa being the constant docile recipient and showcase the continent’s strength and aptitude to take a leading role in the fight against climate change and nature loss. This moment calls for active participants in the pursuit for solutions.

African nations are among the most vulnerable to climate change effects and have significant natural assets that could provide global climate solutions.

Despite this, the continent receives a disproportionately small amount of global climate finance compared to other regions.

The estimated annual cost of Africa’s climate adaptation by 2050 is US$50 billion and the region has the world’s highest potential for renewable energy. Yet the continent currently receives US$19.5 billion per year in total climate finance and only 3% of global investment in clean energy.

ONE is therefore calling on all leaders to use the Summit as a tool to elevate the following policy changes to start the journey in building a more balanced trade and more resilient African economy:

For World Bank shareholders and donor governments to commit to tripling grants and loans from the IBRD and IDA, which could deliver an additional $1.2 trillion in finance by 2030.

For donor governments to deliver on their commitment to double adaptation finance and commit to a framework for the Global Goal on Adaptation that is needs-based and includes targets and/or indicators.

Unblock the barriers so Special Drawing Rights can be recycled through multilateral development banks and the African Development Bank in particular.

Serah Makka, Director for Africa at The ONE Campaign, said: “The key to unlocking the untapped potential of this continent isn’t handouts or second-hand solutions from rich nations. It’s removing the barriers standing in our way.

“African countries possess the tools, talent and renewable resources to fuel their own growth and be at the vanguard of efforts to tackle climate change, poverty and inequality everywhere. But they are being blocked by a broken global financial system that denies them access to the affordable finance needed to unleash this potential.

“No country must choose between improving the lives of their people and protecting the planet. If the rest of the world truly gets behind Africa they can help unleash a green economic revolution that will drive growth and prosperity across the continent and help the whole world to rise to the biggest shared challenges we face.”

Mnangagwa To Announce New Cabinet

By-President Emmerson Mnangagwa said he would soon announce a new cabinet, ignoring calls for a fresh election by the opposition CCC.

Mnangagwa told his supporters in Buhera Thursday that the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) held a transparent, free and fair election.

This is despite the condemnation of last week’s polls by the world, including SADC and AU.

He said a new Cabinet will be constituted immediately after the inauguration and praised Zimbabweans for maintaining peace before and during elections.
This, he said, shamed detractors who expected violent polls.
“No outsider will rule this country through puppets, as Zimbabwe we say no. If the West want their puppets to rule they should first take them to rule in their countries,” President Mnangagwa told Zanu PF supporters at Mukwasi Primary School in Buhera.
“We will never forget our history, where we came from, our people know who brought this democracy. We had our elections in peace, we voted in peace and won in peace, there were some who wanted violence, let’s shame them by maintaining peace.”
The President also put on notice agitators of violence, saying Government will not hesitate to throw into jail elements that preach hate and are, after losing elections, instigating violence.
In his first public engagement after sailing to victory in the recently concluded harmonised elections, President Mnangagwa said the country’s detractors wanted to see chaos unfolding in the country, but peaceful Zimbabweans shamed them.
“We went through our electoral process peacefully, transparently and a fair process was administered by ZEC, we would like to thank ZEC. They stood steadfastly and resolutely guided by the laws they are armed with.”
The President said with the nation having overwhelmingly voted for Zanu PF, all is now set for the inauguration in accordance with the laws of Zimbabwe.
He also said violent machinations of the country’s enemies and their local lackeys will come to nought as the governing party is marching ahead with its development agenda notwithstanding the usual noises from opposition losing candidates.
“We are going forward with our development plans and programmes, we will not stop because of noises from some little boys. They will continue making that noise but we shall continue to move on,” President Mnangagwa said.
“I warn anybody who wants to be nonsensical and bring chaos in this country, we are ready to deal with any chaos. Anyone who preaches hate speech shall be responsible for their hate speech, our prisons are not full. We want peace, we want unity, we want development. Those who disagree with Zanu PF do so quietly and peacefully, tinofamba tese zvakanaka, asi ukaita mhesvamukono tinokuveza.”
Earlier during the day, President Mnangagwa had commissioned the Sabi Star Lithium Floatation Plant.
He said Zimbabweans in their numbers voted for Zanu PF and when the results were announced by ZEC, some losing candidates were claiming victory despite lack of evidence to back their claims.
President Mnangagwa added that people overwhelmingly voted for Zanu PF because the party has the people’s interests at heart and will continue to initiate development that leaves no one and no place behind, including in areas where people voted for the opposition.
Zanu PF, he said, has a record of delivering unlike opposition parties that lack ideological grounding and have nothing to offer the electorate but fake promises.
“During the elections we had observers from different countries, they all said they had never witnessed such peaceful elections. However, there were few individuals who had their pre-conceived ideas and now they are desperate because what they thought would happen did not happen.
“They thought that there would be violence but we held peaceful elections, we voted in peace. ZEC stood firm and resolute. There were some who came and bribed our journalists and others but still Zanu PF won the elections. If you stand for the people, the people will stand with you.”
President Mnangagwa said Government will continue to develop the rural areas as the country seeks to attain its vision of becoming an upper middle class economy by 2030.
“The next five years under Zanu PF Government, we want to develop our rural areas. We want food security, as a country we have enough food in our reserves,” he said.
Zimbabwe held its elections on August 23 and President Mnangagwa invited observers from across the world with 169 observers being accredited.
So far the Commonwealth observer mission, South Africa, Nambia and Botswana have hailed the recently ended elections.
The President’s first term was characterised by development projects encompassing the construction of roads, dams, modernisation and industrialisation, and yesterday he said that remains his mission and noises from losers will not stop the Zanu PF development march.
President Mnangagwa was accompanied by Vice President Dr Constantino Chiwenga, Defence and War Veterans Affairs Minister Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri, Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Monica Mutsvangwa, Zanu PF Politburo members and incoming legislators mostly from Manicaland province.

Mnangawa Sets Own Inauguration Date, Ignores Chamisa

Time To Change Africa’s Climate Narrative

ZEC Rejects V11 Demands

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has defiantly rejected the demand from the United States State Department to disclose the raw data contained in V11 forms, intensifying the controversy surrounding the recently held elections. The US State Department had urged ZEC to publish the data in order to authenticate the disputed election results.

The opposition party, CCC, has been vocal in its opposition to the election outcome, accusing ZEC of manipulating the data to secure victory for incumbent President Emmerson Mnangagwa over his main challenger, Nelson Chamisa. CCC alleges that some polling officers were coerced into signing altered polling station result forms, known as V11s, further fuelling doubts about the integrity of the process.

ZEC, however, remains unwavering in its refusal to comply with the US demand, citing the absence of any legal obligation to release such information. Taking to social media, ZEC emphasized its position, stating, “ZEC is not compelled by the law to publish V11 forms. The map below shows the real performance by the top two Presidential candidates during the just ended elections.”

“We are ready for you”: ED Warns

GOVERNMENT is ready to deal with any form of violence and will not hesitate to throw into prison elements that preach hate and are, after losing elections, instigating violence, President Mnangagwa has said.

Yesterday, in his first public engagement after sailing to victory in the recently concluded harmonised elections at Mukwasi Primary School in Buhera, President Mnangagwa said violent machinations of the country’s enemies and their local lackeys will come to nought as the ruling party Zanu-PF is marching ahead with its development agenda notwithstanding the usual noises from opposition losing candidates.

“We are going forward with our development plans and programmes, we will not stop because of noises from some little boys, they will continue making that noise but we shall continue to move on,” President Mnangagwa said.

“I warn anybody who wants to be nonsensical and bring chaos in this country, we are ready to deal with any chaos, anyone who preaches hate speech shall be responsible for their hate speech, our prisons are not full. We want peace, we want unity, we want development and those who disagree with Zanu- PF should do so quietly and peacefully, tinofamba tese zvakanaka, asi ukaita mhesvamukono, tinokuveza.”

Earlier during the day, President Mnangagwa had commissioned the Sabi Star Lithium Flotation Plant.

President Mnangagwa, who hinted on forming a new Cabinet next week after the inauguration, praised Zimbabweans for maintaining peace before, during and after elections saying this had shamed the country’s detractors who expected violent polls.

“No outsider will rule this country through puppets, as Zimbabwe we say no, if the West want their puppets to rule they should first take them to rule in their countries,” President Mnangagwa added.

“We will never forget our history, where we came from, our people know who brought this democracy. We had our elections in peace, we voted in peace and won in peace, they were some who wanted violence, let’s shame them by maintaining peace.”

He said Zimbabweans in their numbers voted for Zanu- PF and when the results were announced by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC), some losing candidates started claiming victory despite lack of evidence to back their claims.

President Mnangagwa added that people overwhelmingly voted for the revolutionary party Zanu-PF because the party has the people’s interests at heart and will continue to initiate development that leaves no one and no place behind, including in areas where people voted for the opposition.

The President said ZANU PF has a record of delivering unlike opposition parties that lack ideological grounding and have nothing to offer the electorate except fake promises.

During the elections we had observers from different countries, they all said they had never witnessed such peaceful elections, however, they were few individuals who had their preconceived ideas and now they are desperate because what they thought would happen did not happen,” President Mnangagwa added.

“They thought there was going to be violence during the elections and we voted in peace. ZEC stood fast and resolute, they were some who came and bribed our journalists and others but still Zanu- PF won the elections. If you stand for the people, the people will stand with you.”

President Mnangagwa said Government will continue to develop the rural areas as the country seeks to attain its vision of becoming an upper middle class economy by 2030.

“The next five years under Zanu- PF Government, we want to develop our rural areas. We want food security and at the moment we have enough food in our reserves,” he said.

Zimbabwe held its elections on August 23 and President Mnangagwa invited observers from across the world with 169 observers being accredited.

So far the Commonwealth observer mission, South Africa, Nambia and Botswana have hailed the recently ended elections

Government implemented a number of life- changing projects during President Mnangagwa’s first term which included construction of roads, dams, bridges and the country has made siginificant progress in its modernisation and industrialisation programme.

President Mnangagwa said Govenment will continue building on this momentum and will therefore not be detracted by noises from losers.

The President was accompanied by his deputy Vice President Dr Constantino Chiwenga, Defence and War Veterans Affairs Minister Cde Oppah Muchinguri- Kashiri, Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Cde Monica Mutsvangwa, Zanu PF Politburo members and the incoming legislators mostly from Manicaland province.-statemedia

Torture Victim Seeks To Garnish Delinquent Prison Guards’ Salaries Over Aberrant Conduct

By A Correspondent| A torture victim has initiated processes to seize monthly salaries of two Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS) officers to pay a debt amounting to US$5 200 after he successfully sued the duo, which tortured him early last year.

In a letter written on Tuesday 29 August 2023 to the Director of the SSB, Harare resident, Alex Tendai Gombedza, who is represented by Tinashe Chinopfukutwa and Paidamoyo Saurombe of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights, notified the SSB that he would be applying for a garnishee order from a local court against the two ZPCS officers Michael Nduna and Florence Chihambakwe, which will sanction the body, which processes salaries for civil servants in Zimbabwe, to recover the debt, which the duo owes Gombedza.

Nduna and Chihambakwe were on 24 November 2022 ordered by a Harare Magistrate to pay US$5 250 to Gombedza for damages for humiliation, embarrassment, affront to dignity and contumelia, pain and suffering and special damages for medical expenses which he incurred while being treated after he sued them in their personal capacity and claimed
compensation for unlawful assault and torture.

Gombedza was severely assaulted and tortured together with his friend Evidence Kutsawa after they were accused by Nduna and Chihambakwe of passing through a prohibited area while they were walking through Chikurubi Prison garden in Harare in January 2022.

During the torture, Nduna and Chihambakwe instructed Gombedza and Kutsawa to lie down on the ground before assaulting them on their feet using wooden pick handles. After the assault, the ZPCS officers instructed some prisoners whom they were supervising to also assault the duo.

As a result, Gombedza and Kutsawa sustained severe injuries and had to seek medical attention.

Gombedza sustained injuries on his legs and feet and he was admitted at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospital for treatment. The Harare resident suffered excruciating pain on his feet, which he still feels to date.

According to a medical report, Gombedza suffered three percent residual disability as a result of the injuries, which he sustained from the assault.

During trial at Harare Civil Magistrates Court, Chinopfukutwa and Saurombe argued that their client felt greatly humiliated, embarrassed, dehumanised and degraded with the assaults and ill- treatment that he received at the hands of the ZPCS officers.

The human rights lawyers stated that Nduna and Chihambakwe treated as if he was a dangerous criminal yet he was unarmed and posed no security threat whatsoever.

Furthermore, Chinopfukutwa and Saurombe argued that there was no justification for the excessive use of force against Gombedza as he had not committed any crime but was just going about his business walking on his way to Harare’s central business centre.

After the assault and torture, an aggrieved Gombedza engaged Chinopfukutwa and Saurombe, who in August 2022 sued Nduna and Chihambakwe for damages amounting to US$5 250 arising from the physical attack and ill-treatment for pain and suffering, humiliation, affront to dignity and embarrassment. Gombedza also cited Hon. Ziyambi Ziyambi, who served as Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Minister and ZPCS Commissioner-General Moses Chihobvu among the respondents.

In his letter to SSB, Gombedza said he will proceed with seeking a garnishee order against the two ZPCS officers as proceeds realised from the sale of some household property belonging to Nduna at an auction held in Harare in April 2023 to recover the US$5 250 debt only amounted to US$49 leaving an outstanding debt of US$5 200.

The Harare resident said no attachable property was found at Chihambakwe’s residence.

Stanbic Posts 572% Growth In Profit For H1 2023

Harare, 31 August 2023 – Stanbic Bank has posted an inflation adjusted profit after tax of ZWL 373 billion for the six months ended 30 June 2023, growing from the ZWL56 billion recorded in the prior period.

In a statement accompanying the results, Stanbic Bank Chairman, Gregory Sebborn, attributed the growth in profit for the period largely to the increase in foreign currency denominated transaction volumes as business operations continued to shift from local to foreign currency, combined with the improved tobacco crop.

“In addition, new lending assets were written during the period in both local and foreign currency on the back of elevated demand for working capital by customers,” said Sebborn.

He said Stanbic Bank ended the six months period to 30 June 2023 with a qualifying core capital of ZWL552 billion, equivalent to USD96.2 million and against a minimum capital requirement of the ZWL equivalent of USD30 million.

In a detailed overview of the results, Stanbic Chief Executive (CE), Solomon Nyanhongo, said the Bank’s net interest income closed the period at ZWL135 billion, surpassing prior period income of ZWL61 billion by 122%.

Nyanhongo said this growth was largely underpinned by the uplift in the Bank’s average lending book which grew from ZWL73 billion in June 2022 to ZWL941 billion due to heightened demand for foreign currency funding by customers avoiding the high interest rates on local currency facilities, coupled with increased dollarisation of the economy.

“The Bank recorded growth in fee and commission income which ended the period at ZWL130 billion up from ZWL47 billion in the comparative period. This growth was largely reinforced by the increased volumes of foreign currency transactions which were now being processed on our various service channels as business operations were shifting from local currency to foreign currency,” said Nyanhongo.

He said acquisition of new customers during the period, combined with improved customer transactability and increased utilisation of digital solutions, also contributed to the growth in fee and commission income.

Nyanhongo said a net release of ZWL11 billion was recorded in credit impairments during the first half of the year, improving from a net raise of ZWL6 billion in the prior period.

“The release in expected credit loss allowances was largely driven by the improvement in the quality of the Bank’s lending book following the February 2023 interest rate reduction on local currency lending from 200% to 150%. Total operating expenses increased by 135% from ZWL69 billion in the comparative period to ZWL163 billion largely because of the impact of the continued weakening of the ZWL currency against the USD on the Bank’s foreign denominated expenses which have increased substantially in local currency terms,” said Nyanhongo.

Stanbic’s net lending book grew from ZWL489 billion in December 2022 to ZWL1.4 trillion largely spurred by the growing demand for foreign currency loans which saw new lending assets being written as the institution continued to support its customers in their funding requirements.

Nyanhongo noted that the stable operating environment which had prevailed in the last quarter of 2022 persisted into the first quarter of 2023 characterised by a slowdown in inflation and moderate currency depreciation.

He, however, noted that this conducive environment was short-lived as ZWL prices of goods and services rose markedly in the second quarter of the year, coupled with a rapid deprecation of the ZWL: USD exchange rate.

Sebborn said the Standard Bank Group subsidiary paid keen attention to Sustainable Corporate Social Responsibility opportunities as it pursues business in various industries. He said this is in line with the bank’s commitment to drive the growth in Africa and Zimbabwe.

“The Bank has established partnerships through its Corporate Social Investment policy in various provinces in Zimbabwe, supporting these communities in the aspects of health, education and sanitation,” said Sebborn.

Nyanhongo added that, for the 8th year running, Stanbic Bank donated sunscreen lotion, antibacterial soap, antiseptic liquid, lip balm and sunhats worth ZWL39 million to the Albino Charity Organization of Zimbabwe (“ALCOZ”).

“The Bank is committed to supporting education and has made significant strides in spreading educational bursaries around the country.  Engagements have begun with several tertiary and primary institutions to onboard students on bursaries to replicate our partnership with Africa University. We are currently assisting five students at Africa University, five students at University of Zimbabwe, one student at St Giles Medical School as well as one student at Mufakose2 High School,” said Nyanhongo.

He said the strength of Stanbic’s financial outcome continues to be driven by the unique contributions of the resilient staff members.

“Once again, we proved our steadfastness in the face of an increasingly fluid operating environment as we strive to remain relevant in our chosen market, serving our clients better. We have set ambitious targets for ourselves, and I remain confident that our Leadership Culture journey, our future skills curriculum and the continued reinforcement of our risk and conduct strategic value driver, will propel us into a prosperous second half of the year,” he said.

Nyanhongo also paid tribute to Stanbic’s customers and stakeholders for their untiring support throughout the period.

He said transforming client experience remains one of Stanbic Bank’s strategic priorities. To that end, the institution’s client engagement drive has seen its teams directing their energies towards obtaining critical client insights into how the Bank can provide lasting financial solutions to its customers.

“Partnering our customers for growth entails being proactive in providing financial and advisory support that will result in our customers growing and running sustainable businesses. Stanbic Bank continues to capacitate its customers with the information and tools that they need to facilitate trade,” he said.

Nyanhongo said through the Africa- China import solution, the Bank succeeded in bridging language barriers and created value for customers by reducing the number of middlemen between original equipment manufacturers and importers.

The Bank’s Africa China Trade Solutions team partnered with the Zimtrade to host businesses attending the Zim- China Business Forum. This partnership has helped local businesses showcase their products and services in new export markets in China.

“There is a huge opportunity in citrus and nuts where the Bank and Zimtrade have also managed to open trade links for local producers,” said Nyanhongo.

“Postpone Schools Opening”: Teachers

Teachers yesterday pleaded with government to consider postponing the opening of schools for the third term scheduled for next week in the wake of heightened political tensions following last week’s disputed elections.

The educators said the safety of staff and children was not guaranteed after the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change party threatened protests over the election outcome.

Schools are scheduled to open on Monday. In the past, students and teachers have been caught up in violent protests.

The opposition party said its protests were meant to force a fresh election supervised by the Southern African Development Community and the African Union.

Educators Union of Zimbabwe secretary-general, Tapedza Zhou, said the situation in the country was volatile.

“The current situation in the country is dangerously calm, with potential to explode any minute,” Zhou said.

“The safety of teachers and school kids returning to school is not guaranteed. Opening schools is only a gimmick to portray that things as back to normal yet risking the lives of learners and teachers.”

Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe leader, Obert Masaraure, said opening schools under the current political environment was reckless.

We fear for the safety of both teachers and learners in the current context,” Masaraure said.

“We recommend that the opening of schools be postponed by a week to allow political tensions to diffuse.”

Yesterday, social media was awash with reports that government had deferred schools opening to September 12 in light of the  political contestations, but

Primary and Secondary Education deputy minister Edgar Moyo, dismissed the reports as false.

“It’s all lies; schools are set to open as scheduled. People are now obsessed with lies and I don’t even know where this culture came from,” he told NewsDay yesterday.

Mai Titi Hauled Back to Court

By A Correspondent- Incarcerated socialite Felistas Murata, popularly known as Mai Titi, had her case of fraud postponed after the State said the complainant in the matter failed come to court because she had just given birth.

The matter was remanded to September 29.

The comedienne is facing fraud and theft of trust property charges after she failed to repay a US$10 000 debt and for using a hired car as collateral.

In May, she applied for discharge but her application was dismissed after the court ruled that there was overwhelming evidence against her.

In the first count, it is alleged that sometime in September 2022 and at corner Sam Nujoma Street and Speke Avenue, Mai Titi misrepresented to the complainant Rachel Mhuka that she was in need of US$10 000 for her business venture and would surrender her Mercedes Benz vehicle as surety. It, however, later emerged that the car was not hers.

It is alleged Mhuka bought into the misrepresentation and gave her US$10 000.

The comedienne later retrieved the vehicle from the complainant saying it did not belong to her and went on to give her another vehicle, an Audi as surety which she later took back again exchanging it with an invalid passport.

The complainant later returned it to the socialite who gave her the Audi back.

UK Zimbabwean Slapped 15-Year Prison Sentence for Child Rape

By Farai D Hove | Coventry, UK — In a shocking and distressing case that has sent shockwaves through the community, a 43-year-old Zimbabwean man, Khumbulani Sibanda, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for the heinous crime of raping a child under the age of 13. The conviction came after a trial in which Sibanda was found guilty of exploiting the innocence of a young child for his own perverse desires.

Khumbulani Sibanda

Described as a “dangerous offender” by the court, Sibanda has been ordered to serve a minimum of 10 years behind bars. The judge’s decision to impose such a substantial sentence reflects the gravity of his actions and aims to protect society from his potential future harm.

Sibanda’s crimes, which occurred between 2016 and 2018, remained hidden until January 2021, when the appalling truth came to light. The victim’s young age made it difficult for them to fully understand the extent of the abuse they endured. Sibanda’s actions have been characterized as a blatant exploitation of the child’s vulnerability and innocence for his own sickening satisfaction.

The trial was marked by the tireless efforts of Detective Constable Suzanne Leah, who worked diligently to ensure justice was served. Her dedication was evident as she expressed her satisfaction that the severity of Sibanda’s actions was duly recognized in the length of the sentence.

Beyond the prison term, Sibanda faces further repercussions. Upon his release, he will spend an additional three years on extended licence, although this could extend to eight years if he is granted release after a decade of incarceration. Furthermore, Sibanda will be placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life, underscoring the lasting impact of his crimes.

The court’s ruling, which took place at Warwick Crown Court on August 24th, also included concurrent sentences of 12 weeks each for sexual assault and exposure. This comprehensive sentencing serves as a stark reminder of the seriousness of these offenses and the imperative to shield society from individuals who pose such dangers.

Mupfumi Humiliated

MUTARE-Zanu PF Mutare Central constituency losing candidate Isau Mupfumi has raked the Mutare electorate over the coals for voting Citizen Coalition for Change (CCC) and described them as sellouts following his recent defeat.

Mupfumi got a paltry 5 010 votes against 15 628 votes for CCC candidate and former Mutare City Mayor Brian James.

He said the electorate in the constituency wants to receive handouts from Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) with a regime change agenda. He said the electorate is selling the country and forgets that their forefathers died to liberate it.

“The majority of people in Mutare Central chose to sell the country, that our forefathers and mothers fought and died for during the liberation struggle.

This country did not come on a silver platter, it was paid for in full measure and with ultimate sacrifice of blood and life but the majority have sold out for a plate of porridge because they receive from NGOs whose agenda is for regime change.

“We will open your minds and eyes so that you see their true colours. I thank everyone who voted for me.

Let’s not be discouraged by the outcome. We will continue working with you and remain supportive as always,” reads part of the message.

James said he would release a statement in due course when contacted for a comment by Chipinge Times…

War Collaborators Celebrate Mnangagwa Controversial Win

THE Zimbabwe National Liberation War Collaborators Association (ZILIWACO) has congratulated President Emmerson Mnangagwa and all progressive Zimbabweans for a thunderous win in the 23 August 2023 general elections.

In a statement, the association said President Mnangagwa’s performances during the last 5 years were the reason the electorate gave him a fresh mandate.

“ZILIWACO also applauds the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission for respecting the Constitutional mandate in executing its duties. Indeed Zimbabweans have defended their hard-won independence by voting ZANU PF into power,” the association said.

It added, “It is an unfortunate scenario that there are enemies of Zimbabwe who have come out in the guise of the SADC Observer Mission and gave comments aimed at discrediting our elections that were held in a peaceful and indeed free environment. Nevers Mumba is not SADC.

His preconceived report and loose utterance echo Chamisa of CCC’s position that if his party lose then the elections are discredited.”

ZILIWACO called on SADC to “reign in individuals and ensure the likes of Nevers Mumba stick to their mandate.”

It noted that all progressive global Observer Organisations have commended Zimbabwe for holding transparent, free fair, inclusive and collective elections that saw Cde Mnangagwa of the ZANU PF party beating the opposition CCC led by Advocate Chamisa.

“ZILIWACO, in collaboration with other veterans of the liberation struggle associations, will forever defend our hard-won Independence.”

“Elections have come and gone. We urge all the peace-loving people of Zimbabwe to ignore the Western-sponsored opposition whose regime agenda is well documented.

It’s time to focus on our lives and supporting the economic developmental programmes led by our President ED Mnangagwa.”

Benza Scores A Double

Normalisation Committee Useless

Zanu PF Speaks On Fresh Elections

ZIYAMBI ZIYAMBI

By-Zanu PF has rejected to accept calls by the main opposition CCC for fresh polls.

The ruling party said it would not give away its unassailable electoral victory in the just-ended harmonised elections as Zimbabwe’s Constitution does not provide for a re-run of elections at the behest of a losing political party or candidate, let alone an international organisation.

Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi said the law was clear on the legal remedies available to an aggrieved political party or candidate and an opposition party-induced electoral re-run is not one of them.
Minister Ziyambi said this yesterday while responding to calls from the opposition CCC that there must be a re-run of the presidential election supervised by Sadc, the African Union and United Nations among other organisations.
President Mnangagwa, who was Zanu PF presidential candidate, was declared winner on Saturday night after he beat his closest rival, CCC presidential candidate, Mr Nelson Chamisa, who has typically refused to accept the result claiming that the election was rigged without providing any evidence.
The opposition party has also made another bizarre claim where they want the disbandment of the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec), the body in charge of electoral processes, saying it should surrender its electoral management role to Sadc and the UN.
Sadc Election Observer Mission chairperson, Dr Nevers Mumba, has also come under fire for straying into areas that are beyond the mandate of the Mission by interrogating legislation that was passed by the country’s Parliament in exercise of its sovereign and constitutional obligations.
In an interview, Minister Ziyambi said the claims by CCC and its cohorts were ridiculous as they are coming from sore losers.
“Section 93 (1) of the Constitution is clear about what an aggrieved person must do. They must file a petition within seven (7) days of declaration of winner by ZEC. Our Constitution is also clear that we hold an election once every 5 years. That has been done. There is no provision for another election as demanded by CCC,” said Minister Ziyambi.
“Section 93 (3) requires the Constitutional Court to hear and determine the petition within 14 days. The decision of the court shall be final. There is no reason for His Excellency, President Mnangagwa and ZANU PF to give away their win. If anything, Zimbabwe as a sovereign State cannot be pressurised to change its Constitution or domestic laws by a regional or international observer mission or SADC itself or the European Union.”
He said one other argument being advanced by CCC of irregularities was not valid and will not pass any legal test.
“Any lawyer knows that the irregularity argument will not wash. There are many cases in that regard. No election is 100 percent perfect. The test is one of substantial compliance. Even Dr Mumba in his preliminary report accepted that the electoral environment was calm and peaceful, but some aspects fell short of the requirements or expectations of the Constitution and SADC Guidelines.
“The classic case is (ironically) to be found in the US ie Al Gore v George Bush. Remember the electoral fiasco in Florida. But were the elections annulled? No,” said Minister Ziyambi.
“So we do not have a provision in our laws to have the UN, AU or SADC to come and conduct elections in Zimbabwe.”
Meanwhile, the Council of Apostolic Churches of Zimbabwe has added their voice in congratulating President Mnangagwa and Zanu PF for the electoral victory.
CACZ president, Bishop Clement Karikoga Chisango, said the victory was a result of President Mnangagwa’s tried and tested leadership whose life changing developmental projects have transformed communities.
“We wish you and your party, Zanu PF, a developmental, successful and progressive five-year mandate bestowed upon you by the people of Zimbabwe in accordance with the Constitution of Zimbabwe,” said Bishop Chisango, whose organisation is an umbrella body of indigenous Apostolic and Zion Christian churches.
Bishop Chisango commended President Mnangagwa’s efforts to create working synergies with the church in the country, saying such initiatives showed that he was a God fearing leader. Herald

Water Woes Haunt Harare

By A Correspondent- Harare risks another cholera outbreak as the water situation in the capital has reached crisis levels with many suburbs going for over a week without supplies.

This year, the cholera outbreak was first reported in Chegutu in February before it spread across the country.

Harare has recorded 1 616 suspected cases to date. Combined Harare Residents Association (CHRA) director, Reuben Akili, expressed concern over water challenges in the city.

“In our view, the issue of water crisis which is happening when we are getting into the hot season which is characterised by water challenges and waterborne diseases is worrisome,” Akili said.

Community Water Alliance director Hardlife Mudzingwa accused the authorities of failing to eradicate cholera.

“Despite cholera cases in Harare, the priority of the government from national tier to lowest tier (local authority) has been on treating symptoms of the problem rather than addressing the root cause,” Mudzingwa said.

Harare Residents Trust (HRT) director, Precious Shumba, said the local authority had failed the residents.

“Primitive disease outbreaks will be with us for a long time as long as the attitude and level of service delivery remains as it is. We fear that the approaching rainy season will worsen the situation for residents,” Shumba said.

Rudo Chikodzore, the director for epidemiology and disease control in the Health and Child Care ministry, said they had a strategy to save lives.

“This has been successful in Harare province as seen by a low case fatality rate of 0,4% for the metropolitan province despite a high number of cholera cases in the just ended cholera outbreak,” she said.-Newsday

“No Changes on Schools Opening Date”: Gvt

THE Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has dispelled social media rumours that schools will reopen on September 12.

Instead, schools will open, as indicated, on September 4.

Social media platforms have been spreading rumours that the dates have been changed.

The Deputy Director of Communications in the Ministry, Patrick Zumbo, said there were no changes to the calendar.

There are no changes and schools are opening on the 4th of September and will close on December 1 as initially planned,” he said.

Analysts Pour Cold Water On Election Fresh Elections

Analysts say the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) stands little chance of having its demands for fresh elections endorsed by the Southern African Development Community (Sadc) and the African Union (AU) .

President Emmerson Mnangagwa was declared winner of last week’s controversial polls which the CCC has described as flawed.

The CCC and other election observers have poked holes on the whole election architecture.

The CCC has hinted at challenging the results in court, while also pushing Sadc and AU to order a rerun.

CCC deputy spokesperson Gift Siziba told journalists early this week that the Nelson Chamisa-led opposition party was lobbying for Sadc and AU’s intervention.

Professor of world politics at the University of London’s School of Oriental and African Studies, Stephen Chan, said there was little room for having elections supervised by a foreign body.

“It seems the strategy is to call upon Sadc and the AU to support this call. This may not be successful,” Chan said.

“Observer reports are one thing, repudiating a government, even one in place by tainted means, is something else.

“Sadc will say try the courts first, but the courts, in like ruling against the CCC, will simply validate the government, further reinforcing the Sadc/AU reluctance actually to intervene.”

The CCC has in the past called for Sadc, AU and United Nations (UN)-supervised polls, without success.

Local political analyst Rashweat Mukundu said the opposition demands might never see the light of day.

“I think it’s a bold statement by CCC that Zimbabwe needs a fresh election managed by a neutral body, it could be Sadc or the AU. Of course, the question then is: will that be accepted moreso in light of what the Constitution says?,” Mukundu said.

“The key question is: what happens to the Constitution of Zimbabwe in terms of the management of elections which essentially puts the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) in that position and role?

“Even if the call for fresh elections does not happen, the CCC still needs to defend and protect its current gains and still push for political dialogue on reforming institutions that are responsible for elections.”

Another political analyst Effie Ncube, however, urged the opposition to explore all avenues.

“There is no silver bullet in this tragedy. Therefore, every avenue must be tried to resolve a potentially explosive situation,” Ncube said.

“There are a range of tools and strategies out there that can be used to deliver a better outcome from the dispute around the election results.

“That the CCC has picked one of these does not mean that others should be discarded. Instead, the situation may actually require a combination of strategies and the wise use of local and international platforms.”

Tragic Accident Claims 7

A horrific accident occurred yesterday morning on the 60-kilometre peg near Marondera along the busy Harare-Mutare Highway. A pirate taxi travelling towards Harare collided head-on with an oncoming VW Touareg vehicle.

Tragically, seven people were killed instantly at the scene of the crash, while four others suffered serious injuries. The pirate taxi, a small Honda Fit, was carrying nine passengers total including the driver.

When reporters arrived, some of the victims’ bodies remained trapped within the wreckage. Bottles of an illicit alcoholic beverage were scattered all over the roadway as well.

According to a preliminary police report, it appears the pirate taxi crossed over into the opposing traffic lane, resulting in the fatal high-speed collision. The area has been declared an official accident black spot by Mashonaland East provincial police.

An eyewitness, local vendor Mary Gomba, stated that the Honda Fit seemed to be speeding shortly before the accident occurred. Further investigation is ongoing to determine the exact causes of the crash and if excessive speed was a contributing factor.

This tragic incident serves as a reminder that unregulated transport can endanger lives. Stricter enforcement of traffic laws is needed to curb dangerous driving behaviours and prevent more loss of life on Zimbabwe’s roads. The community’s thoughts are with the families of all involved in this devastating accident.

Prophet Nabbed Having Lula Lula With Another Woman in His Car

A woman from Dzivaresekwa says she caught her husbɑnd, who is a self-styled prophet, hɑving ƨǝx with another womɑn in his car.

The husband, said Sarafina Makota, apologised for his shameless deeds.

She revealed this at the Harare Civil Court yesterday in a case in which she was being accused of inflicting emotional and verbal abuse on Rebecca Sanali.

The protection order, demanded by Sanali, was dismissed because of lack of evidence.

Sarafina told the court that Rebecca was mocking her for being barren and seduced her husbɑnd to beɑr him a child.

I cɑught her hɑving ƨǝx with my husbɑnd in his car and she admitted to the ɑffɑir,” she said.

“My husbɑnd apologised, he even broke his old sim card to avoid her but she keeps begging my 26-year-old husband to impregnɑte her because I can’t have kids and she is in her late 30s.”

Sarafina claimed she was not in a relɑtionship with Rebecca’s husbɑnd, who is a self-styled prophet.

“Ndiri Madzimai and her husband anondishandira so she saw me with him and assumed that we were having an ɑffɑir.

“Whenever we meet in the neighbourhood, she insults me and she even approached my relatives insulting them and demanding my pɑnties to bewitch me.”

Sarafina denied the allegations saying Rebecca was pulling off stunts to snɑtch her husbɑnd.

Magistrate Sharon Mashavira dismissed the application.

“The applicant (Rebbecca) failed to submit evidence of abuse and the court was left to speculate, she managed to make bold accusations without evidence,” she said.

LEAD President Linda Masarira Proposes Power sharing arrangement

30 August 2023

By Linda Tsungirirai Masarira

As a political party that was involved in the Zimbabwean 2023 elections LEAD propose that since the elections stand disputed the only wayforwad is an all inclusive power-sharing arrangement.

The LEAD proposed Power-sharing arrangement aims to reduce the risk of continued political polarisation and possibility of civil conflict by guaranteeing all political parties and civil societies a role in the Zimbabwean government, directly or indirectly, thus lessening the stakes of political contestation.

In this way, the proposed power-sharing will reduce the risk that spoilers will resort to violence if they do not succeed in the process of democratic electoral contestation. While power-sharing can reduce the incentive of electoral losers to renege on their commitment to democracy, we argue that this depends on the nature of the relevant groups, as well as on the political institutions that will be chosen.

LEAD believes that, elections have three main functions in a democracy. First, they are means of choosing the people’s representatives to a legislature, senate, and local authority or to a single office such as the presidency.

Second, elections are not just a means of choosing representatives but also of choosing governments. Indeed, in many established democracies, elections are primarily a contest between competing political parties to see who will control the government. Finally, elections are a means of conferring legitimacy on the political system.

When, at the end of the electoral process there is no notional consensus to the effect that the process has managed to serve it purpose the logical thing is to enter into a power sharing arrangement while setting up conditions and institutions for a better electoral showing.

As a nation, we have to understand that there is always the overarching issue of under what circumstances elections can help to build a new democratic order in Zimbabwe, and under what circumstances they can undermine democracy and pave the way for a return to polarisation and political violence.

The high expectations, Zimbabweans often put on elections tend to be accompanied by a weakness in the preconditions for their success. As a polarised society, Zimbabwe lacks the political climate, social and economic stability, institutional infrastructure, and political will to mount successful elections.

The international community is not helping Zimbabwe, by not being sufficiently cognizant of the dangers in pushing for elections, without paying sufficient attention to the capacity and environment of the country to carry them out.

LEAD, as a party, observed that the 2023 elections in Zimbabwe were conducted in a constrained political atmosphere and generally lacked the requisite independence and transparency as provisioned by our national constitution and international guidelines for the conduct of elections.

As a country we, during the period 2018 – 2023 we failed to put in place the necessary electoral reforms and instead adopted legislation targeting the country’s vibrant civil society, effectively muzzling productive voices of reason.

While the constitution safeguards fundamental human rights and freedoms there is in place legislation which unduly limits the rights and freedoms of citizens.

LEAD also observed that on Election Day, the voting process ran smoothly at most polling stations; however, in some areas polling stations opened late. This tactically excluded and disenfranchised a number of citizens who had wanted to cast their ballot.

As reported by ZEC, about 2000 000 Zimbabweans failed to cast their votes partly due to the delays encountered on voting day. LEAD also holds that the administration of electoral process as a whole generally lacked transparency and precision in key areas, as the ZEC did not provide critical information during various stages of the process, which LEAD believes undermines public and stakeholder confidence in its management of electoral processes.

Although the voter roll was posted for inspection, public confidence in it remained low because of inaccuracies and errors.

LEAD also noted that only the ruling party managed to submit party lists and candidates for every constituency and ward election, and ran uncontested in around 10% of wards.

This was mainly because ZEC did not induct the political parties on what is required and had not provisioned a method of payment which was acceptable to it based on the current banking systems in the country.  Also, while incidents of political violence were fewer than in 2018, tensions and polarization increased in the months preceding the elections.

In light of the aforesaid, the LEAD party holds that despite their essential role, elections in Zimbabwe have always been a source of tension, causing a lightning-rod for popular discontent and extremist sentiments.

Zimbabwean Elections, the 2023 elections included, often as a hindrance to development as they leave the country highly polarised creating an electioneering atmosphere that last until the next election. Instead of focusing on development, citizens, civic organisations, political parties and even captains of industries focus rather on preparing for the forthcoming election and surviving the obtaining political turbulence.

Zimbabwean elections have always had the perverse effect of undermining the broader process of democratization. A common mistake which we have always made is to hold elections too soon, before national political issues have progressed beyond the concerns of the previous election, and before more normal politics have had time to develop. In our situation, elections have always become a focus for violence, as the major political continue their conflict via the electoral process.

While elections are an essential part of our democracy, ill-timed, badly-designed or poorly-run elections have often served to undermine democratic processes in fragile political environments.

Given this dilemma, LEAD identifies the following issues facing the Zimbabwean community as it engages in post 2023 election peace building. There are at least five main areas of variation which have a crucial influence on the shape of post-election politics in Zimbabwe:

  • First, there is the question of election timing: should the next national elections be held in 2028 as provisioned by the constitution. Or is it better to wait for a 10 year period so as to allow the political routines and issues or internal politics to come to maturity?
  • Second is the matter of political reforms. Is it possible to have political reforms in a heavily polarised political environment? Or is it better to form an all inclusive government of national unity to preside over the processes of national healing and the realignment of national laws to the constitution.
  • Third, there are the mechanics of elections themselves: what laws governs the political environment and the running of elections. Who runs the elections? How are voters enrolled? How are electoral boundaries demarcated? What electoral formula is used? And so on. All of these decisions impact upon the way national politics develop, particularly the type of party constellations that are formed and the kind of appeals they make to voters and thus to the nature of electoral campaigning.
  • Fourth, there is the matter of international election observation, monitoring and supervision. After placing huge resources on international electoral observation, there is now a renewed focus amongst international actors such as the African Union on the need to professionalize the process of electoral observation and to place more emphasis on building domestic capacity in this area.
  • Fifth, there is the often under-estimated issue of the effect of elections on the development of civil society and political parties. In the Zimbabwean situations, many civil society organisations are weak or non-existent. In such cases, political parties are the key link between masses and elites, and play an absolutely crucial role in building a sustainable democratic polity. Hence, the interaction between civil society, political parties and the electoral process is itself crucial. The aim should be to promote the development of broad, programmatic party organizations with real links to the community.

As LEAD we understand that conclusions about the potential for peace via power-sharing, after elections, are mixed. For some, power-sharing does little to overcome the commitment problem characterizing a transition from election dispute, while others argue that such concessions provide signals of parties’ willingness to incur costs.

As LEAD we, argue that government parties tend to hold an electoral and military advantage, which heightens incentives for contending political leaders to abandon peaceful engagement. The only way to even the play field is to onto an election sabbatical based on a nationally agreed power sharing deal.

It is a glaring truth that, the Zimbabwean economy, once the continent’s bread basket and second in strength after South Africa’s, has been sharply constricting since 1999 as a result of political mudslinging and polarisation.

The three-decade-long political turmoil has brought growing economic isolation, economic sanctions, incoherent economic policies, widespread corruption, a total breakdown of social services and grave human rights abuses.

Today, foreign currencies are legal tender in Zimbabwe, with 90 % of transactions being made in US dollars. The economic situation remains desperate. Among other things, it is characterised by:

  • an exceedingly high unemployment rate: caused by a shrinking manufacturing sector and the collapse of employment in agriculture;
    • Poverty: majority of the population live in poverty whilst 49% of the population leaves in abject poverty and over a million persons are facing food and nutrition insecurity.
    • Untenable public spending: central government expenditure accounts for 30 % of GDP, with a huge deficit of GDP. Public servants’ salaries represent 90 % of the budget.
    • Debt distress: high public debt reached 86 % of GDP in March 2018, including a 7.7 billion publicly guaranteed external debt.
    • being Africa’s largest shadow economy: more than 75 % of Zimbabwe’s economy is informal, which has a negative impact on state revenue;
    • Liquidity crisis: the cash-to-deposit ratio dropped from 35 % in 2003 to 5 % in 2017.

It is a fact that the Zimbabwean political environment is charactersied by political and electoral violence. Political actors in Zimbabwe resort to coercion as an instrument to advance their interest or achieve specific political ends through such actions as violence against people, property or the electoral process before, during or after elections.

We know that Elections in themselves do not generate violence, however, in the case of Zimbabwe one can allude to the fragility of the state and societies coupled with the deep seated political rivalries, poor economic conditions that reduce electoral processes to avenues for settling differences.

Dissatisfied political leaders and/or their supporters often resort to violent protests, destruction of properties, injuring and at times killing perceived political opponents as means of expressing their dissatisfactions with the outcomes of electoral processes. Interestingly, in Zimbabwe, the outcomes of elections are often considered to have been rigged or manipulated in favour of a political party or candidate, usually the incumbent party.

Several factors have been advanced as possible triggers of electoral violence, in general, and post-elections violence, in particular. These include structural weakness in election management; the nature of the electoral system (that is, the winner-takes-all); abuse of incumbency (access to state resources, manipulation of electoral rules); identity politics; security forces‟ intimidations and brutalities during elections; and deficiencies in election observation, monitoring and reporting.

The introduction of power sharing has the potential of preventing the escalation of party based conflicts. The signing of the power-sharing agreement and its subsequent approval by the country’s legislature and implementation has to contribute in reducing the violence that may engulf the country after the elections.

The question however is, what needs to be done to sustain the peace? We believe that power sharing has conflict-mitigating effects especially when parties to the disputes arrive at such an agreement through a process of negotiation and reciprocity that all parties perceive as fair and just given their own changing interest and needs.

Power-sharing governments as a post-election conflict management mechanism will serve as a viable alternative to violence following electoral disputes. For instance, a Coalition Government’s primary duty may to address the cause of the recurrent election violence in Zimbabwe through the implementation of a coherent and far reaching reform agenda with the view of promoting a lasting peace in the country. The subsequent Parliament has also to pass a number of legislations to further the cause for peace in the country.

The adoption of power-sharing may also lead to a reduction of protests by the opposition parties and their supporters. It may also minimize perceived and real government repression and the flagrant abuse of human rights by state security apparatuses.

Power-sharing will thus presents Zimbabweans with a rare chance to salvage the hitherto seemingly implacable socio-economic and political conflicts. It also presents a true national cooperation following the abrasive relationship that exists between Zanu PF and the opposition parties.

The subsequent government will mark an end to the liberation ethos that has dominated the country’s politics for the better part of the last century. From its inception, Zimbabweans could perhaps hope for an end to the political tensions that has engulfed the country for decades.

There is also the urgent need to fix the dilapidated social infrastructures, and hyperinflation, as well as to lift the international sanctions imposed on the country if the ordinary citizens are to benefit from the peace dividend.

ZANU-PF and its apparatus should not continue to have a firm grip on power, and, the acceptance of the power sharing deal should not only be a ploy to get out of the economic crises, and removal of international sanctions.

The proposed power-sharing should focused on including those groups most capable of destabilizing the political and social order through conflict, in the heart of government. The political power-sharing arrangement has to provide important security guarantees for state and opposition parties, by offering them a place in government.

CCC Namibia applauds SADC, AU, and EU for exhibiting objectivity during the polls!

29 August 2023

Citizens in Namibia are impressed by the objectivity evident in the preliminary report from SADC and the African Union. For the first time since time immemorial, regional and continental institutions have denied endorsing sham elections conducted by the captured Zec. The people of Zimbabwe urge SADC to continue promoting democracy in the motherland.

The regional body has been popular for its subjectivity and bias toward the so-called revolutionary parties regardless of the unfair political playing field, before, during, and after elections in Zimbabwe but this time around they came back transfigured. SADC condemns the unconstitutional conduct by Zec and ZANU-PF during the poll. It is on public record that the ZANU PF-controlled Zec refused to avail the voter’s roll on time as enshrined in the Constitution and the Electoral Act read together. We are exhilarated as a people to have a transformed regional body that considers the SADC guidelines on elections and democracy during their objective observation.

What perturbs citizens in Namibia is that some African leaders in the SADC region have already congratulated someone who is trying to subvert the will of the people in Zimbabwe. Regional leaders should unite against dictatorship in Southern Africa and beyond. Zimbabweans are scattered around the world, especially in South Africa, Zambia, Mozambique, Botswana and Namibia. It is now imperative to advocate for free, fair, credible, and unfettered elections in SADC. Citizens Coalition for Change Namibia respects and lauds the transformation of SADC.

Dissimilar to the previously signed and endorsed shambolic elections by the regional body, the 2023 harmonized watershed elections resemble an election that is marred with irregularities. From the late provision of a voters roll in pdf, pre-election torture, arbitrary arrests, banning, and disruption of political rallies cleared by the police, the abuse of traditional leaders, and the illegal imprisonment of Job Sikhala, etc. We demand free and fair elections in Zimbabwe. “Citizens voted for President Advocate Nelson Chamisa despite all odds”, echoed Lawrence Chiduku who defended the vote in Hwange West Constituency where he voted for the change that delivers.

The gesture of the organic regional body was also applauded by Elisha Chambara, the CCC Namibia interim chair, and the popular cadre Tapiwa “Tapshinda” Mugore who braved the terror in Uzumba before, during, and after, collecting V11s. It is significant to note that CCC has been in partnership with Uzumba since 2021, preparing for the flawed harmonized elections. Representatives from Namibia embraced participatory democracy to ensure that there was no ballot stuffing in those areas purported to be ZANU PF strongholds. That is why we managed to avert the breastfeeding of the ballot in Uzumba.

We shall continue to give applause to SADC and the African Union for condemning the shambolic elections dominated by FAZ. “Intimidation affected the voting patterns in the countryside while Harare, Bulawayo, and Manicaland were denied ballot papers from the morning forcing elections to spill into the 24th of August,” said Simbarashe Ndoda. This is a record in the history of elections in the motherland since 1980. Thank you, SADC and AU for condemning a demonic patriotic bill and delimitation process effected to close the democratic space ahead of the 23rd of August elections.

Citizens in Namibia are on the same plate of opinion as all progressive Zimbabweans who reject the shambolic and rigged elections. We are tired of disputed elections and successive illegitimate leaders in the motherland. Only a credible poll can save the people of Zimbabwe from the gross abuse of human rights, abject poverty, corruption, and looting. An economically and politically stable Zimbabwe is a blessing to the entire SADC and beyond that, it is fundamental to unite now!
