Mmusi Maimane Blames ANC For Immigration Crisis

South African opposition leader, Mmusi Maimane, has blamed the ruling African National Congress (ANC) for the immigration crisis in that country by “enabling” corruption and oppression in Zimbabwe by the ZANU PF.

Maimane, who is the leader of Build One South Africa, made the remarks after the Pretoria High Court ruled that the termination of Zimbabwe Exemption Permits (ZEPs) was unconstitutional.

The ZEP permits were due to expire today, 30 June, by the South African Government had already given ZEP holders a further six months to regularise their stay or face deportation.

Maimane, who is a former leader of South Africa’s biggest opposition party, the Democratic Alliance (DA), South Africa has a role to defend democracy in Zimbabwe. He said:

The ANC government has for years enabled corruption and oppression in Zimbabwe by the ZANU PF.

How? They ignored rigged elections and farm invasions. Instead of putting out the fire next door, they gave Mugabe and Mnangagwa matches and paraffin.

The fire that burned created the immigration crisis we are living with. That South Africa is paying for.

The courts have no choice but to uphold refugee laws and the constitution. If we want to solve the immigration crisis we have to go directly to the root of the problem namely the dictatorship in Zimbabwe.

We must stop supporting elections that are not conducted in a free and fair environment, we must stop supporting elections that are rigged and we must stop allowing South African banks to be used by money laundering members of the Gold Mafia.

We cannot keep supporting ZANU PF because of what they did during the liberation struggle. They are now the oppressor.

We must be honest and direct with them and tell them that we cannot afford to keep paying the bill for their oppression and corruption. Time is up.

To solve this issue we need to make sure that there are free and fair elections in Zimbabwe in August. That doesn’t happen in August, it starts now.

South Africa has influence on Zimbabwe and we must use it, more than we use our influence on Russia and Ukraine because this is happening in our neighborhood…

The immigration crisis was caused by a democracy crisis in Zimbabwe. As a robust constitutional democracy, we have a role to advance democracy in Africa and to defend democracy in Zimbabwe.
To solve the immigration crisis in South Africa we must go directly to the source of the problem. We must treat the disease and not just the symptoms.
If the ANC government does not want to cut ties with ZANU PF and be non-aligned in Zimbabwe then we must vote for leaders who are not afraid and who are willing and able to hold leaders in neighboring countries accountable for the problems they create for South Africa.
Last week ANC secretary-general Fikile Mbalula said illegal migrants are putting a heavy strain on South Africa’’s fiscus with adverse effects on service delivery and high unemployment, among other things.
Mbalula made the remarks while addressing the ANC 9th Western Cape Provincial Conference over the weekend.

South Africa To Appeal Against Judgement On Zimbabwean Exemption Permit Holders

Home Affairs Minister Aaron Motsoaledi has announced that his office will apply for leave to appeal against two Zimbabwean Exemption Permit (ZEP) judgments handed down by a full Bench of the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria this week.

The full Bench found against Motsoaledi on two different judgments, both relating to the ZEP.

In the first, the court found that Motsoaledi’s decision to terminate the ZEP was invalid, unlawful and unconstitutional.

Since 2009, eligible Zimbabweans have been granted exemption permits allowing them to live and work in South Africa. This specific type of permit, now known as the ZEP, was introduced for those who fled to South Africa due to their home country’s economic and political strife.

The ZEP was due to expire in December 2021. Motsoaledi decided not to renew the permit, which affects more than 178 000 people, and extended the expiration deadline to the end of June 2023, which was later changed to December 2023.

The court found that the minister did not follow a fair process before making his decision, which should have included consultation with and an opportunity for ZEP holders to make representations.

READ | Motsoaledi’s decision to terminate ZEPs found to be unlawful, unconstitutional and invalid

The court also said Motsoaledi did not consider the impact his decision would have on the holders and that the decision was an unjustified limitation of rights on those affected.

The full Bench set the decision aside and ordered that the matter go back to Motsoaledi for reconsideration, following a fair process that complied with the requisite legislation.

The court also declared that, pending the process, the ZEP will be deemed to remain valid for the next 12 months.

News24 reported that in the second judgment, the court ordered Motsoaledi not to arrest or issue deportation orders for ZEP holders and that they be allowed to leave and return to South Africa.

Judgments can’t go unchallenged

In a statement on Thursday, Motsoaledi’s spokesperson Siya Qoza said the minister had carefully studied the first judgment and took legal advice.

“The two judgments cannot go unchallenged as they set a dangerous precedent,” Qoza said.

The statement said these precedents are the findings of the court on the applicability of certain sections of the Promotion of Administrative Justice Act (PAJA), which the Department of Home Affairs said was “highly questionable, particularly the requirement for public participation when a decision of this nature is taken, affecting a specified category of persons only. In this instance, the affected Zimbabwean nationals.”

It added: “The decision that the minister took not to extend the Zimbabwean exemptions involves weighing of policy considerations which falls within the domain of the executive.”

READ | High Court rules that ZEP holders can’t be arrested, deported

The minister also believes that judgment deals with matters relating to the separation of powers, which he believes is another “strong ground for appeal”.

On the second judgment, the department said Motsoaledi would challenge the outcome of the matter on the same basis as the first judgment.

“It is not clear as to what is the purpose of [the] interdict when in fact the minister issued directives to ensure that the affected Zimbabwean nationals continue to enjoy the protections afforded by the directives,” Qoza said.

“The last minister’s immigration directive was issued on 7 June 2023. Since the minister took the decision, no Zimbabwean national has been threatened in any manner whatsoever and/or deported.

“They continue to enjoy freedom of movement between South Africa and Zimbabwe and anywhere, as pleaded in the affidavits filed in court on behalf of the minister showing significant movements to and from Zimbabwe by the affected Zimbabwean nationals and their families.”

According to the statement, Motsoaledi has already instructed his legal team to launch an application for leave to appeal against both judgments.

“The minister would like to take this opportunity to assure the nation that he will do everything in his power to ensure that the immigration laws of the Republic of South Africa are enforced without fear or favour.”

Teachers Slam Abuse Of Pupils By Zanu PF

teachers artuz rural teachers

MASVINGO-The Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ) has launched a petition against politicians using school pupils, premises and resources as buses during the election season.

The petition seeks the prohibition of school officials from communicating political message, banning teachers from spreading their political views to students, coercion of teachers and students to participate in partisan politics, wearing party regalia and erecting campaign material as posters and billboards in school premises.

ARTUZ president Obert Masaraure told The Mirror that the petition began last week and will be submitted to international organisations.
School premises, pupils and busses are usually used or hired by politicians during the election period.
“We are campaigning against the abuse of school properties by politicians in pursuit of political power. Politicians must leave schools when they are doing their rallies because on most cases pupils have been left disadvantaged.

“Our thrust is to protect schools from political interference because many schools were abused by politicians and political parties must never coerce members of the school system to donate to their private political activities… www.twonations.co.zw

Efforts To Curb Child Sexual Exploitation Intensify

RUSHINGA district has recorded the highest number of child sexual exploitation cases in Zimbabwe, with the government and its partners engaging traditional and religious leaders in Mashonaland Central province to curb the vice.

Chiefs and religious leaders in Mashonaland Central province have been roped in the fight to curb child sexual exploitation, with statistics showing that one in every two girls in the province is married before the age of 18.

The figures from the 2019 Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey also show that the Rushinga district has the highest figures.

“Unless we find strategies to ensure that girls and women have a chance to reach their full potential, the country’s development remains elusive individually and collectively we can work together to get all girls in school and keep them there. It is within our capacity as leaders to plant seeds for the future of our girls,” said the Permanent Secretary for Women Affairs Community Small and Medium Enterprises Development Mr Moses Mhike.

Chiefs and religious leaders who met in Mazowe on Monday welcomed the drive to end the social ill.

“In our culture, a child is never married before reaching 20 or 21 years.

This is foreign to us and some do it in the name of culture which is wrong. In Rushinga we are close to the border with Mozambique so you find there it’s not a crime and some marry children and migrate there or import their culture,” said one resident.

“We welcome this fight against child marriages. In Shamva we already have bylaws to fight child marriage and we hope with this intervention other Chiefs will adopt such laws,” added another resident.

The campaign is being implemented in Rushinga under the theme: ‘Give me a chance. I’m a child, not a wife.’

“Our campaign is aimed at that girls need a chance to do what they desire to do in life. Part of the campaign you will see on radio, TV, and social media but we will see that it’s important for us to get into the community because those are the high prevalence areas. And we go there to have conversations with the traditional and religious leaders,” said a Representative for Population Services for Health Mrs Varaidzo Mabhunu-Maniwa.

The initiative will be taken to every district of Mashonaland Central province, with traditional and religious leaders have signed a pledge to work with stakeholders in their communities towards ending child sexual exploitation.- ZBC News

WIFE RETURN: Man Gets Lobola Back

Lobola Refund: The Unsettling Love Triangle in Vokola Village, Matabeleland South Province.

In the quiet village of Vokola, nestled within Insiza South District of Matabeleland South Province, an unusual tale of love, betrayal, and cultural customs has unfolded. Godfrey Nkala, a man who recently married Nobubelo Thebe, found himself at the center of a perplexing situation when his wife left him to marry her former teacher, Mthandazo Matshilo Dube. The story took an unexpected turn when Godfrey received a lobola refund of R13,000 from Dube, marking a peculiar resolution to this entangled love triangle.

A Controversial Love Story

The love story began when Dube, who was a teacher at Mkwabene Secondary School in Insiza South District, fell in love with Nobubelo Thebe, one of his pupils. Allegedly, their relationship blossomed during Nobubelo’s time in Form Four, and it continued even after her graduation. Meanwhile, Dube was married to an unnamed woman who had passed away approximately three years ago.

When Godfrey and Nobubelo got married in early 2022, it seemed like a promising union. However, Nobubelo’s affection for her former teacher resurfaced, and she eventually decided to marry Dube. The sudden turn of events left Godfrey in a difficult situation, but he managed to secure a surprising lobola refund from Dube amounting to R13,000.

The Lobola Refund

According to sources close to the matter, Godfrey’s family only paid a portion of the lobola (bride price) since Godfrey intended to take Nobubelo to South Africa with him instead of following the customary practice of visiting his in-laws. Consequently, when Nobubelo and Godfrey agreed to part ways, Godfrey’s family received a refund of R13,000 from Dube through a mediator. Later, Dube’s representative paid an additional R5,000 as amalobolo, expressing regret for the delay caused by organizing a memorial service for his late wife.

Denials and Emotional Turmoil

When contacted for comment, both Dube and Nobubelo denied the allegations. Dube threatened the reporter, insinuating that his reputation was being tarnished. Nobubelo, on the other hand, stated firmly that she was not ready for marriage and dismissed the entire story as falsehoods.

The Repercussions and Community Response

While the situation has caused turmoil within the families involved, it has also drawn attention from the community. Bethwell Khumalo, speaking on behalf of the Thebe family, confirmed the incident and explained the circumstances that led to the lobola refund. He acknowledged that the new couple, Dube and Nobubelo, had been dating for a long time, starting when she was still a student. However, Dorothy Nkala, Godfrey’s aunt, expressed disappointment in Nobubelo’s decision and revealed that the family felt unwelcome in their church community, where Nobubelo serves as a preacher.

The Brethren In Christ Church (BICC), where both families fellowship, has yet to receive an official announcement regarding the incident. While the church does not condone divorce outside of cases involving adultery, the leadership has not been formally informed and is waiting to take appropriate action.

The love triangle involving Godfrey Nkala, Nobubelo Thebe, and Mthandazo Matshilo Dube has left Vokola Village abuzz with rumours and speculations.

FAZ Fraudster Continues To Upset Chamisa

CCC Member Defies Party, Refuses to Withdraw Candidature Despite Ultimatum.

Marondera Central Constituency – In a surprising turn of events, Mr Misheck Manyere, a member of the CCC (Coalition for Change), has decided to defy his own party and proceed with his candidacy for the upcoming elections. This move comes despite the party’s 24-hour ultimatum for him and others to withdraw their nominations. The CCC had officially endorsed Mr Caston Matewu as the candidate for the Marondera Central Constituency, but Manyere claims that he was the one selected by the party’s controversial selection panel.

Both Manyere and Matewu successfully filed their nomination papers, a decision that has exposed the senior party officials for their apparent preference for a deeply discredited candidate selection system. Over 40 candidates in total have defied the CCC and filed their nominations under the party’s banner, resulting in some constituencies and wards having two or three CCC candidates.

The chaotic situation emerged due to the secretive candidate selection system employed by party leader Nelson Chamisa, who single-handedly selected candidates to represent the party. The selection process was mired in controversy, with candidates being informed of their fate only near the closing time of the nomination court. This resulted in a last-minute rush of CCC candidates invading nomination courts across the country, forcing Zimbabwe Electoral Commission officers to work beyond official hours to process their applications.

The CCC has responded to the situation by threatening legal action against candidates who filed their nominations using the party’s name, arguing that they did not have proper clearance. However, the defiant candidates maintain that their nomination papers were in order and that they were the legitimate choices in their respective areas.

In an interview, Mr Manyere expressed his confidence and determination to stay in the race, brushing off the party’s threats. He claimed that his candidature had the support of party supporters and emphasized that he would not withdraw his application. Manyere accused Mr Matewu, the party’s preferred candidate, of misrepresenting the outcome of the party’s selection process.

“I had a significant number of people who nominated me during the selection process, while he had only a few. I have the support of the people, which is why they are urging me not to withdraw. The citizens love me,” Manyere stated defiantly. He further asserted his belief that he would win the Marondera Central Constituency seat and announced plans to embark on election campaigns for the CCC across the constituency.

Responding to allegations that he had forged signatures and received assistance from Forever Association Zimbabwe (FAZ), a Zanu PF affiliate, Manyere vehemently denied any wrongdoing. He argued that the authorized individuals had signed his nomination papers and refuted the involvement of FAZ in his candidacy.

As of now, Mr Matewu, the party’s endorsed candidate, has not provided a comment regarding the ongoing situation. Efforts to reach him via the provided mobile number were unsuccessful, and messages sent through WhatsApp remained unanswered.

The standoff between Mr Misheck Manyere and the CCC raises questions about the party’s candidate selection process and highlights the internal divisions and controversies that have marred its preparations for the upcoming elections. With the party threatening legal action and multiple candidates refusing to withdraw, the situation remains uncertain. The CCC now faces the challenge of maintaining unity and ensuring a coherent campaign strategy in the midst of this internal conflict.-state media

Wife Bites Off Small House’s Ear During Fight

A 22-year-old woman from Glendale, Mashonaland Central province, had a terrifying encounter that she will never forget when she had half of her right ear bitten off during a fight with the alleged lover’s wife. Shamiso Acid found herself in a violent altercation after being discovered in an intimate situation with Philda Pamela Makuwa’s husband, Casper Makwara.

The incident took place on February 1st at around 3 pm near Glendale Corner Bar, specifically at Glendale Spinners. Makuwa, accompanied by two other unidentified women, confronted Shamiso, who was in the company of Makuwa’s husband. As the confrontation escalated, a heated argument ensued, leading to physical violence against Shamiso.

Eyewitnesses reported that the situation quickly turned into a physical assault, with Shamiso being targeted all over her body by the enraged Makuwa and her companions. The attack persisted until Shamiso fell to the ground, defenseless against her assailants.

Seizing the opportunity, Makuwa sank her teeth into Shamiso’s right ear, biting off approximately half of it. Only when Casper Makwara intervened was Makuwa restrained from inflicting further harm. Shamiso, severely injured and bleeding from her ear, immediately reported the incident to the police. Following her report, Makuwa was apprehended by law enforcement authorities.

Shamiso, needing immediate medical attention, was referred to a local hospital for treatment of her severe ear wound. Meanwhile, Makuwa faced the consequences of her actions in court. She appeared before Concession magistrate Joshua Nembaware, charged with assault.

During the hearing, Makuwa pleaded guilty to the charges brought against her. The magistrate sentenced her to pay a fine of US$200 or face four months of imprisonment. Additionally, a four-month prison term was suspended for five years on the condition that Makuwa refrains from committing any offense involving assault during that period. Failure to abide by this condition would result in imprisonment without the option of a fine.

In her plea for leniency, Makuwa emphasized that she had a three-week-old child and had experienced injuries during childbirth, which limited her ability to manage heavy workloads.

The case drew attention to the grave consequences of violent confrontations and the importance of resolving disputes peacefully. Incidents of this nature serve as a reminder of the need for dialogue, understanding, and non-violent conflict resolution methods within society.

Precious Khanye represented the State in the case.

Prophet Charges for One-on-One Consultations

Bulawayo, is no stranger to charismatic prophets who capture the attention of the masses with their claims of divine healing and prophecy. One such figure is Prophet Mduduzi Dube, popularly known as Black Elisha, who has recently come under fire for charging between US$100 and US$150 for one-on-one consultation sessions. This exorbitant fee has sparked a debate among Christians, with some questioning whether it is appropriate to commercialize spiritual gifts. While critics argue that prophecy should be freely given, others defend the practice, citing the need for financial support for the advancement of God’s work. Let us delve deeper into this controversial issue.

One on one consultations…Mduduzi Dube

Mixed Reactions:

The news of Black Elisha’s high consultation fees has elicited mixed reactions among Christians and the general public. Some individuals, like Nomsa Ncube, argue that prophets should not charge for one-on-one sessions, as prophecy is considered a gift from God. They believe that any financial contribution should be voluntary and based on the individual’s means and generosity.

On the other hand, proponents of the practice, such as Tinashe Moyo, compare it to the biblical concept of tithing, where Christians are expected to give 10 percent of their income to the church. Moyo suggests that paying for a one-on-one session with a true man of God helps maintain reverence and a sense of importance, ensuring that individuals take the prophet’s guidance seriously.

Dependency and Financial Burden:

Critics of the charging practice express concern about the financial burden it places on believers, particularly those who do not have a personal relationship with God. They fear that individuals who lack a deep spiritual connection may see these paid sessions as a means to purchase blessings and favor from religious leaders. Consequently, they might end up spending substantial amounts of money in the hope of finding divine intervention.

Black Elisha’s Defense:

When contacted for comment, Prophet Black Elisha defended his decision to charge for one-on-one sessions. He stated that the fees were intended to support the advancement of God’s work and maintain an atmosphere of prayer. According to him, blessings obtained through these consultations can bring about immediate life transformations. He also compared the situation to dining at an expensive restaurant, where the quality of service, attention to detail, and presentation demand a higher price.

Black Elisha further clarified that the funds generated from the consultation fees are used to develop the church, spread the word of God, and testify to His goodness. In his view, the financial aspect ensures that he is not perceived as a “bogus prophet” and that people have faith in his work.

The practice of charging for one-on-one consultation sessions with a prophet has stirred controversy within the Christian community in Bulawayo. While some argue that spiritual gifts should be freely given, others defend the need for financial support in advancing God’s work. It is essential to recognize the potential risks associated with commercializing spirituality, particularly when vulnerable individuals may become dependent on paying for divine intervention. Ultimately, it is up to individuals to discern and decide how they approach seeking spiritual guidance and support.- State Media

Mnangagwa Captures Artisanal Miners

PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa has given credit to artisanal miners for playing a critical role in the country’s economic growth, contributing 60 percent to the mining sector’s total earnings.

Statistics reveal that the mining sector is the biggest contributor to the country’s gross domestic product and this Wednesday President Mnangagwa met over 6 000 Miners for Economic Development Conference in Gweru.

The President underscored the importance of achieving the US$12 billion mining industry targets.

“Before I speak about the mining issues let me update you on what has been happening. Last week I was in Ghana, we asked for money from the bank and we have been given the money. I got back from Ghana last night and I was told I had been invited here. I asked who are these people and I was told that of the US$12 billion from mining, 60% comes from small-scale mining, so I decided I will not sleep but come here. When the Second Republic came the mining sector was contributing US$2.8 billion and now it has risen to US$12 billion,” said the President.

President Mnangagwa also said the government is open to collaborating with artisanal miners to address their challenges, urging them to operate in an orderly manner.

“When there is a gold rush allow the community there to benefit. We are anxious as a government to work with you to address your challenges,” he said.

The platform was also an opportunity for the President to remind Zimbabweans that it is their responsibility to ensure the economic and industrial development of the country.

Artisanal miners present shared their concerns with the President and are confident the future of the sector can only be protected by the clear policies under the Second Republic.

“We want to assure you that sacrifices during the war are what we are here to safeguard, we are here to industrialise and create employment. However, the issue of Exclusive Prospecting Orders (EPOs) has closed avenues for our children from mining.

Some people are grabbing such EPOs for speculative purposes and we appeal for the termination of such EPOS for the children to work and contribute to the country’s economy,” said Mberengwa Miners for Economic Development- National Coordinator, Mr Sam Ncube.

The government says it is seized with the matter of people holding EPOs for speculative purposes.

“As a ministry, we have been receiving cases of people doing such practice. We are sitting down to review some of these EPOs, scrutinising them with some of the applications not passing the test and we are also looking at some of the licenses which will be cancelled soon if they do not match some of the provisions we are putting in place,” said the Deputy Minister of Mines and Mining Development, Honourable Polite Kambamura.

The ZANU PF leadership took the opportunity to urge the miners grouping to recruit more members and practice proper mining activities to preserve the country’s heritage.

“What we want is to see the country going forward. This can only happen if we mine and do our farming properly. We want to ensure that we do this for the benefit of generations to come.

All of you representing miners, I expect each one of you to bring at least 20 more people so that we defend the heritage we got from the almighty,” said ZANU PF Second Secretary and Vice President, Retired General Dr Constantino Chiwenga.

“I am told we now have a good number of affiliates registered with the party so far and that’s good news for the party. When I came here I witnessed several vehicles outside this place. This is a sign that your people are already benefiting from Vision 2030. You need to safeguard this vision for the good of your professions,” said ZANU PF National Chairperson, Cde Oppah Muchinguri Kashiri.

Did This Man Rape His Step Daughter?

Tragedy struck the Siambizi area under Chief Makoma in Binga, Matabeleland North Province when a 46-year-old man, Mkhokheli Munengi, was found hanging in his bedroom hut. The shocking incident occurred on Wednesday evening.

The motive behind the suicide appears to be the accusation that Munengi had impregnated his 12-year-old stepdaughter. The distressing allegations surfaced sometime in August 2021 when the young girl initially reported to the police that she had been raped by a villager known as Mugande. However, the situation took a tragic turn when she changed her statement on June 26, claiming that her stepfather, Mkhokheli Munengi, was the one who had allegedly assaulted her.

On June 28, the police made their way to Munengi’s homestead with the intention of arresting him. However, they were met with a heart-wrenching sight when they discovered his lifeless body hanging from a wire in his bedroom hut. It is believed that Munengi took his own life using the wire.

Makho Mumba, a cousin of the deceased, revealed that Munengi had visited him on the fateful day in the afternoon and expressed his deep troubles. Munengi reportedly confided in Mumba, stating that his life had reached a point of no return and that he wanted to end it all.

Matabeleland North police spokesperson, Inspector Glory Banda, confirmed the tragic incident. Inspector Banda expressed his condolences to the family and urged the public to report such cases promptly to the police. He stressed the importance of involving the authorities in such matters, as handling them solely within the family can hinder the pursuit of justice for the children involved.

Kaizer Chiefs Legend Calls For Billiat Dismissal

Kaizer Chiefs legend Shane McGregor has urged the club to release Khama Billiat and keep goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune.

The duo’s contracts expire on Friday and the club hasn’t made any official update on the players’ future.

McGregor believes Chiefs shouldn’t retain Khama as he has failed to reach his top form since arriving at the Soweto Giants five years ago.

He told the Sowetan Live website: “To be honest, what has Billiat done since he has been at Chiefs? Not much. For the goalkeeper, he [Khune] can still mature with experience, you can still go for a few more years and also he can help other keepers, so that can be worth it keeping him.

“But for me personally, it is a waste of time keeping Billiat, but as I said, it is a difficult one to call because you don’t know who will come in and what will happen, whether the coach will want to use him.

“He ([Billiat] is a very good player, if you keep him fit and happy, he can do things. But it has not been happening while he has been at Chiefs.”

Meanwhile, Billiat has joined the Kaizer Chiefs squad for the pre-season, giving a huge hint at his future.

The former Warriors international was among the first players that underwent fitness tests at the Kaizer Chiefs Village ahead of the start of the pre-season camp.

Latest reports have suggested that Billiat has agreed to take a huge pay cut in order to stay on at Chiefs ahead of the next campaign.-Soccer24 News

We Are Safeguarding Liberation War Values – Mnangagwa

Miner’s for ED is part of the over 90 affiliates that have registered their operations with the ruling ZANU PF party using the ED acronym.-ZBC News

ARTUZ Challenges Abuse Of School Buses By Zanu PF

teachers artuz rural teachers

Harare Poly Bans Nudity

By- Harare Polytechnic has banned wearing ripped and skimpy clothing on campus.

The ban applies to students, lecturers and visitors.

Harare Polytechnic principal, Tafadzwa Mudondo, said the move was not aimed at suppressing individuality but to create an environment that is inclusive for every student.
He said the requirement of decent dressing by students was aimed at promoting a conducive learning environment, without fashion taking centre stage.
“We require decent dressing by students and do not promote nakedness.
“Imagine you are teaching in class and the students are partially dressed, what do you think the lecturer will be going through?” he said.
While some students were apprehensive about the change, others appreciated it, saying that it would promote respect between lecturers and students.
“It came at short notice and most of my clothes are now banned.
“I thought since we are tertiary students we can make our own choices, but it doesn’t look to be the case.
“I was coming to collect my results and did not know anything about the new dress code,” said a student who was barred from gaining entry.
The female student was wearing ripped jeans.
However, another student accepted the change.
“Some female students were coming here half naked, and it is not conducive.
“The new dress code will help promote respect between lecturers and students,” said the engineering student. H Metro

Zanu PF Blocks Kasukuwere

By- Zanu PF, represented by Lovedale Mangwana, an activist has threatened to approach the courts seeking to bar Saviour Kasukuwere from contesting the presidential election.

Mangwana claims that Kasukuwere is not a registered voter and is therefore in violation of the constitution.

Lovedale Mangwana plans to submit an application that cites Saviour Kasukuwere and the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) as respondents. Mangwana claims that Kasukuwere’s nomination for the presidential election is invalid because he is not a registered voter. Mangwana quotes the Electoral Act which states that if a voter has not lived in a constituency for a continuous period of 18 months, their name cannot be retained on the voters’ roll for that constituency. He said:

I submit that the decision to accept the first respondent’s nomination paper is in breach of section 91(1)(d) of the Constitution and invalid.

I was convinced that this circumstance meant that he is no longer a registered voter for any constituency in the republic and consequently, he does not qualify for candidacy for election to the office of President.

Saviour Kasukuwere has been in self-imposed exile in South Africa since 2017. He skipped the country when the late former President, Robert Mugabe, was ousted from power.

He registered to contest in the presidential election as an independent presidential candidate. Kasukuwere’s spokesperson and chief election agent, Jacqueline Sande, has confirmed that the legal team is preparing a response and will fight the case in court. Sande has expressed confidence that Kasukuwere will succeed in his bid to contest the presidential election, stating that there is no sustainable case to prevent him from running. Sande told NewsDay:

The legal team is seized with the matter. They have seen the draft application which has not yet been issued and served, to us. We have prepared a response and once we are formally served, we shall fight it in the courts. We are confident that we will succeed.

We believe that there is no sustainable case which can prevent Kasukuwere from contesting for the highest post in the land. Come August 23, he will emerge as the president of the Republic of Zimbabwe.

That being said, nothing will deter Kasukuwere from running as presidential candidate come August 23.

I would like to urge all Zimbabweans to rally behind him and bring change to our country. This is what democracy is all about. Where one leader has failed, s/he has to give the baton to someone else to develop or stir the ship.

Kasukuwere, a former Minister of Local Government, is one of 10 presidential candidates who will be competing against President Emmerson Mnangagwa in the upcoming election.

Anti- Mnangagwa Chief Assaulted

By-Chief Murinye, who once challenged President Emerson Mnangagwa to curb corruption, has been assaulted by a mob of villagers.

The Herald reports that the mob accused Chief Murinye, real name, Ephias Munodawafa, of refusing them permission to bury a deceased relative at a place of their choice in his area.
The angry mob charged at Chief Murinye and severely assaulted him with open hands and clenched fists forcing to him flee.
They were allegedly miffed by the chief ‘s refusal to bury a relative at a place Chief Murinye and his ruling court deemed sacred (Dambakutemwa).
Attempts by three ZRP officers to stop the marauding mob from manhandling and bashing the chief were in vain as they were hugely outnumbered.
In a video that has gone viral on social media, the mob comprising even women, could be seen mercilessly charging at the cornered chief who had to flee and at one time picked stones to try and scare away the daring mob.
Efforts to contact Chief Murinye were futile as his mobile phone repeatedly switched to voice mail.
Masvingo police said they were still to get full circumstances of the case.

Paradzai Mesi Quits Beer

By- Paradzai Mesi, a sungura musician known for hits such as Tiri Huruva, has announced that he is quitting drinking beer.

This follows calls from his fans to give up alcohol if he was serious about his music career.

Mesi has faced numerous challenges, including poverty and accusations of theft. However, he has received support from fellow musicians and fans, who have donated money and goods to help him.

Despite previously jokingly saying that he could not quit beer as it would affect families in the beer industry, Mesi has now pledged to stop drinking. He made the announcement in a recent post, saying that he realized that his drinking was causing him problems and that he wanted to focus on his music career. He said:

Dump Billiat: Kaizer Chiefs Legend

Breastfeeding Ideal Food For Infants

Breastfeeding is one of the most effective ways to ensure child health and survival. However, contrary to WHO recommendations, fewer than half of infants under 6 months old are exclusively breastfed.

Breastmilk is the ideal food for infants. It is safe, clean and contains antibodies which help protect against many common childhood illnesses. Breastmilk provides all the energy and nutrients that the infant needs for the first months of life, and it continues to provide up to half or more of a child’s nutritional needs during the second half of the first year, and up to one third during the second year of life.

Breastfed children perform better on intelligence tests, are less likely to be overweight or obese and less prone to diabetes later in life. Women who breastfeed also have a reduced risk of breast and ovarian cancers.

Inappropriate marketing of breast-milk substitutes continues to undermine efforts to improve breastfeeding rates and duration worldwide.

BREAKING: Shamba And Tapiwa Makore Snr Found Guilty | 7y Old’s Murder

Breaking News: High Court Verdict Reached in Tapiwa Makore Murder Case

By A Correspondent | In a landmark decision that has gripped the nation, the High Court judge has ruled that Tafadzwa Shamba and Tapiwa Makore senior are both guilty of the brutal murder of 7-year-old Tapiwa Makore. The court’s verdict comes after an extensive trial.

Tapiwa Makore’s murder, a horrifying crime that shocked the entire country, took place in the rural community of Murehwa in 2020. The young victim’s body was found mutilated and dismembered, sending shockwaves throughout the nation and sparking widespread outrage.

During the trial, the prosecution meticulously presented a compelling case against the accused, Tafadzwa Shamba, a herdsman, and Tapiwa Makore senior, the uncle of the deceased child. The state argued that the two conspired to carry out the heinous act, motivated by ritualistic beliefs. Their actions were alleged to be part of a ritual seeking to enhance the uncle’s wealth, a tragic motive that only deepened the horror of the crime.

The evidence presented during the trial included forensic analysis, witness testimonies, and circumstantial evidence that firmly linked both defendants to the murder. The prosecution’s case painted a chilling picture of premeditation and cruelty, leaving little room for doubt regarding the guilt of Shamba and Makore senior.

After carefully considering all the evidence and arguments presented, the High Court judge has handed down a verdict of guilty for both Tafadzwa Shamba and Tapiwa Makore senior. The judge emphasized the seriousness of the crime, acknowledging the pain and anguish inflicted upon the young victim and his family. The court’s decision signifies a resounding condemnation of the defendants’ heinous actions and ensures that justice will be served.

Sentencing for the convicted individuals is now to be announced. The sentencing phase will provide an opportunity for the victims’ family and the wider community to express the impact of this devastating crime and advocate for an appropriate punishment.

This verdict could bring closure to the nation, as many followed the trial closely, hoping for justice to be served in the horrific case.

As the nation grapples with the aftermath of this tragic event, the spotlight now turns to the sentencing phase, where the court will determine the appropriate punishment for Shamba and Makore senior. The outcome of this case is expected to have far-reaching implications for both the legal system and society at large.

The verdict was announced without a mention of focus concerning the painstaking search for the lad’s missing skull.

Meticulous Processes In Mining

Steps to starting from zero in the mining sector.

Just like every industry mining has zero beginning where you begin with absolute nothing or with little amounts of less than 100usd .

By nature mining is a very high expenditure business thousands of united States dollars are needed to run a successful mining business sometimes with no returns .

We are going to take you through a short but powerful account of how to begin at zero step by step .

Step 1
Be interested in mining stories read and listen to as many mining stories in detail asking keen and clear questions.

Artisanal miners have a lot of stories to tell each story has a specific detail that is clue to how you can start from zero . By this way you will be informally introducing yourself to it .
Befriend someone in mining.

Deliberately choose a friend who regularly goes to the mine be very close friend. By so doing you receive mining updates and stories for free . You will learn mining terms risks and rewards fast .

3 visit the mines regularly.
Now that you have a friend visit the mines with him regularly to assess the situation and listen to more mining stories from others stay there for a long time sometimes even 12hrs or two days continuously.
4 identify areas of need within your friend’s network.

At this stage visit with a secret book identify needs that would let you in . The easiest is food just buy relish for them for free and start asking direct question how can you be of help .

NB don’t over promise or over commit yourself if you don’t yet understand the risky .

Pause : mining is so risky and ugly the losses are fatal we have lost money huge amounts never to receive it back don’t let the “reward stories ” force you to sell valuable property or use school fees for your kids to invest these “reward stories are structured to lure you .
Lists of free entry points no cent just you .

1 use your own hands join the team with intention of raising money to invest back for those working join night shift before list what you want to do with the money . Below are inputs and values
A box of explosives sets 330usd
A drum of diesel market price
A compressor set 2000usd
Pegging a mine 3000usd.
Never mind the amount using your hands increases the chances of high returns .
2 link with an investor with huge financial muscles and get double share .
3 identify and bring an expert who improve production
Low income entry points in values
1 food and lighting 100usd
50kg mealie
Cooking oil 5litres
Salt
Relish
Torches
Rare cheap entry points
Buying food during milling of ore 400rands or less
Covering a member who felt ill or absent temporarily by some un forseen means .
At this time you have a vision what you want to do this is a list of what you can permanently do
1 be food and relish provider for as many teams as you can .
2 provide transport for life
3 provide explosives and diesel
4 provide compressor or diesel powered windlass
5 build tanks fir cyanide process
6 fund workers for none work related needs . This is risky needs a careful study.

Major Reprieve For Zim Economic Refugees In South Africa

A South African High Court has ruled that it was “unlawful, unconstitutional and invalid” for the country’s Home Affairs minister Aaron Motsoaledi to terminate the Zimbabwean Exemption Permit (ZEP).

In December 2021, Motsoaledi announced the termination of the ZEP, and has twice granted extensions.

However, earlier this year, the Helen Suzman Foundation made a court application to interdict the minister and the government from arresting, deporting and detaining anyone who does not have a valid permit document.

In a ruling on Wednesday, the High Court set aside the minister’s decision and directed that ZEPs shall remain valid for the next 12 months.

Kasukuwere-Mangwana Lawsuit Hearing Moved

Hearing on Zanu PF Member Lovedale Mangwana’s Challenge Against Saviour Kasukuwere’s Presidential Candidacy Postponed**

By Farai D Hove | The highly anticipated legal battle between a close associate of the Justice Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi and Zanu PF member Lovedale Mangwana, seeking to nullify the presidential nomination qualification of former ZANU-PF member Saviour Kasukuwere, has been postponed to July 7, 2023, for a hearing. The case has attracted significant attention as it has the potential to impact the upcoming presidential elections in Zimbabwe.

Lovedale Mangwana, a prominent member of the ruling Zanu PF party, has filed a legal challenge in an attempt to prevent Saviour Kasukuwere from participating in the presidential race. The primary argument put forth by Mangwana is that Kasukuwere is not a resident of Zimbabwe, which, according to the case applicant, disqualifies him from running for the highest office in the country.

Mangwana’s decision to challenge Kasukuwere’s candidacy has sparked controversy within Zanu PF, with differing opinions emerging among party members. While some support Mangwana’s efforts, others argue that Kasukuwere should be allowed to contest the election freely, without any legal hurdles.

The case, initially scheduled to be heard today, took an unexpected turn when the court granted a postponement until July 7, 2023, citing the need for additional time to review the evidence and arguments presented by both parties involved. This delay has further intensified the political climate, with tensions rising as the presidential election draws near.

Saviour Kasukuwere, once a prominent member of ZANU-PF before his departure from the party, has expressed his determination to contest the election despite the legal challenge. He maintains that he meets all the necessary qualifications to run for the presidency and vows to defend his candidacy vigorously.

The postponement of the hearing has given both the Kasukuwere and Mangwana camps additional time to strategize and gather further evidence to support their respective positions. As the new hearing date approaches, political observers and Zimbabwean citizens eagerly await the court’s decision, recognizing its potential to reshape the electoral landscape in the country.

We will continue to closely follow this case and provide updates on any developments leading up to the hearing on July 7, 2023.

Consumers Applaud ZESA, EcoCash For Introducing USD Tokens Option

By A Correspondent| EcoCash, the country’s leading mobile payment platform, has been commended by customers for creating convenience following the introduction of US Dollar purchases for ZESA tokens on its platform.

The ground-breaking feature has changed the way customers purchase electricity from the utility company by simplifying their electricity consumption experience and providing great convenience.

Official statistics show that more than 70% of transactions in the economy are now conducted using the US dollar.

The response from EcoCash customers has been positive, with many expressing appreciation for the seamless and hassle-free process of purchasing ZESA tokens in US dollars.

Colleta Magumise, a Gweru resident shared her experience, saying, “I am delighted with EcoCash’s decision to allow us to buy ZESA tokens in USD. It has made my life so much easier. I no longer have to worry about the constant fluctuations in the local currency exchange rate. I can now conveniently purchase tokens using USD, which provides stability and predictability in managing my electricity expenses.”

Another Ecocash customer, Takudzwa Chirwa, emphasised the convenience of the new feature, saying; “I used to spend a lot of time and effort trying to find local currency to buy ZESA tokens. With Ecocash’s USD option, I can instantly purchase tokens using the currency I already have. It saves me time and reduces the stress of searching for cash. It’s a game-changer.”

To buy a USD ZESA token, customers dial *151#, select “Make Payment”, then “Pay Zesa” and “Buy Token”. They enter their Zesa meter number and the amount of the token they want to purchase and the payment will be immediately drawn from their EcoCash USD wallet, and the recharge token instantly sent to their phone.

EcoCash customers also commended the company – the first mobile money platform in Zimbabwe to offer USD Zesa tokens – for promoting financial inclusivity by enabling those who have access to USD to participate fully in the digital economy.

“This is a great opportunity for us in the informal sector to easily purchase electricity when it runs out using US dollars, as we have limited access to local currency,” said Eunice Moyo.

Chinamasa Roasted Over Foreign Funding Claims

Election watchdog, Election Resource Centre (ERC), has refuted Zanu PF claims that it received foreign funding from the West to train election agents.

ERC said the training of election agents was not its mandate.

Zanu PF finance boss, Patrick Chinamasa, released a statement last week saying the ruling party had gathered that ERC and the Zimbabwe Election Support Network (Zesn) had received foreign funding to train election agents.

The money is said to have come from the United Kingdom, France, Australia, USAid, Sweden, the United States embassy in Harare, US-based National Democratic Institute and the European Union.

“Unfortunately, this statement from Zanu PF is not true with regards to ERC. As ERC we, therefore, put it on record that we are neither aware of the donation nor are we part of such a programme as alleged by Zanu PF,” ERC said in a statement.

“As a law-abiding entity, we continue striving for electoral excellence, our mission as ERC is to provide credible information, strategic services and deliberative platforms that aim to improve the quality of democracy and elections at all tiers of Zimbabwean society and Africa at large.

“The ERC is a think-tank and advocacy organisation on electoral and democracy issues in Africa, having been formed following the need to deepen electoral research work in Africa that would inform effective citizen participation as well as strengthen policy engagement towards improvement of the quality of electoral and democratic practices.”

Zesn last week also dismissed the same claims.

“Zesn reiterates that it does not and will not finance and or train any political party agents as this is not part of its core business and mandate, neither does Zesn support or endorse any political party or candidate in Zimbabwe,” said Zesn.

“The network’s mandate is to promote democratic elections in Zimbabwe through domestic oversight on all electoral processes such as voter registration, nomination, pre- and post-electoral environment and polling day processes among others.”

WestProp Pioneers Novel Housing Delivery Scheme

Property development company WestProp Holdings is pioneering a novel housing delivery scheme at its Pomona City project under phases 2 and 3 – the leasehold model.

Addressing guests at the official launch of the US$630 000 multi-purpose gate house today Chief executive Mr Ken Sharpe announced the new “disruptive, futuristic, innovative and unique” scheme.

One of the unique features of the Pomona City phase 2 and 3 is the introduction of the leasehold model a “completely new feature in Zimbabwe but very common in developed economies”.

The leasehold model makes acquisition of property much cheaper as it removes the bulk cost of the land. The property owner only acquires the building and leases the land from the developer.

The property owner will pay between US$30 and US$50 in land rentals. The leases are valid for up to 50 years and can be renewed.

“The affordability is much easier when one commits resources to the built-up unit only and not the land. The cost of land has been an inhibiting factor in property ownership”, he says.

Mr Sharpe said the scheme that is new to Zimbabwe is very common in Europe and is gathering momentum in South Africa.

“One of the unique features of the Pomona City phase 2 and 3 is the introduction of the leasehold model a completely new feature in Zimbabwe but very common in developed economies,” he said.

Many people have been failing to build their properties after spending much of their investment in purchasing the land. The new scheme is a reversal of the norm which now allows prospective home owners to spend on the structure and lease the land on which their house is built and very concessionary rates.

The scheme is one of the best ways of reducing the housing unit backlog.

WestProp allows for the use of innovative and cheaper and robust building materials.

FULL TEXT: Mmusi Maimane Speaks On Pretoria High Court Ruling On ZEP Holders

The ANC government has for years enabled corruption and oppression in Zimbabwe by the Zanu PF.

How? They ignored rigged elections and farm invasions. Instead of putting out the fire next door, they gave Mugabe and Mnangagwa matches and paraffin.

The fire that burned created the immigration crisis we are living with. That South Africa is paying for. The courts have no choice but to uphold refugee laws and the constitution. If we want to solve the immigration crisis we have to go directly to the root of the problem namely the dictatorship in Zimbabwe.

We must stop supporting elections which are not conducted in a free and fair environment, we must stop supporting elections that are rigged and we must stop allowing South African banks to be used by money laundering members of the Gold Mafia.

South Africa has influence on Zimbabwe and we must use it, more than we use our influence on Russia and Ukraine because this is happening in our neighborhood.

We must insist on this or else we do not endorse the election results. We cannot endorse amanyala. The voters roll must be made public and digitally accessible. the ZEC must be audited by international Election Commissions because they are not independent and observing best practice for elections.

Political prisoners like Job Sikhala must be released. Legislation against free speech must be withdrawn. The army must pledge not to be involved in elections. They must stay in the barracks. Full permission for political rallies and meetings. Full access to the state broadcaster for opposition parties.

Unrestricted access for international observers and for international media.

If the ANC government does not want to cut ties with Zanu PF and be non aligned in Zimbabwe then we must vote for leaders who are not afraid and who are willing and able to hold leaders in neighboring countries accountable for the problems they create for South Africa.

Mnangagwa Spends US$2 Million On Campaign Launch

ZANU PF splashed big at its 2023 election campaign launch in Chipinge, Manicaland province on Saturday with sources saying the ruling party may have spent nearly US$2 million at the event at a time when the majority are wallowing in poverty.

Zanu PF hosted a colourful election manifesto launch at Mutema Secondary School in Musikavanhu constituency.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa was accompanied by his Zanu PF deputies Constantino Chiwenga and Kembo Mohadi and party national chairperson Oppah Muchinguri.

Zanu PF hired over 500 buses and lorries to transport its supporters from across the country to the venue.

The festivities resulted in injuries to some Zanu PF supporters as they scrambled for food.

“The party spent almost US$2 million at the launch of our campaign. The party had to also foot the accommodation bills of several senior party officials,” a Zanu PF insider said.

“A lot of money was also spent preparing for the event. The ruling party forked out money to pay artistes who performed at the gala after the campaign launch to entertain our supporters,” said the source.

Zanu PF national spokesperson Christopher Mutsvangwa, directed all questions to national political commissar Mike Bimha.

Binha, however, refused to divulge how much was spent at the launch.

“My job does not involve money. I don’t even know where the money was coming from. What I did was to mobilise people to the event and it was very successful and people are saying we should come back again.

“Maybe our spokesperson (Mutsvangwa) might know how much was used.”

Bimha also said he was not aware that some party supporters were injured as they scrambled for food.

“I am not aware of any incident in Chipinge. The report I have here is that everything went on very well,” he added.

Zanu PF has already splashed on its aspiring MPs, buying them all-terrain twin cab vehicles for election campaigns.

A number of shadowy groups have also benefited from Zanu PF largesse, receiving cash and other freebies to spearhead Mnangagwa’s re-election bid.

Social and political commentator Tendai Mbofana said Zanu PF was buying votes.

“Their principle is to maintain their grip on power at all costs,” Mbofana said.

“There is hunger in Chipinge but they chose to go there and party for votes.”

Mnangagwa told the gathering that they would do everything to retain power.

Another analyst, Rejoice Ngwenya, said Zanu PF may have dipped into State coffers to fund the campaign launch.

“I hope Zanu PF is not using taxpayers’ money,” Ngwenya said.

Mnangagwa will face off against 10 other presidential candidates including his main challenger CCC leader Nelson Chamisa, whom he narrowly beat in the 2018 disputed polls.

Mnangagwa: US Mustn’t Use Us Against Putin

ZANU PF President Emmerson Mnangagwa has firmly stated that he will not succumb to pressure from the United States and its allies to criticize Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Mnangagwa, addressing a Presidential interface meeting with small to medium scale miners in Gweru, emphasized that Zimbabwe remains an independent and sovereign nation and will resist any attempts to force it to take sides in conflicts between other countries.

During his address, Mnangagwa revealed that there have been efforts by Washington to persuade Harare to align itself with one side in the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. However, Mnangagwa emphasized the importance of promoting dialogue and diplomacy rather than taking sides. He highlighted that both Russia and Zimbabwe have been victims of American sanctions, and if Zimbabwe were to support one side, it would naturally align with a fellow victim of these sanctions.

Mnangagwa recalled a conversation with American President Joe Biden, who urged him to distance Zimbabwe from Russia and support a particular position. However, Mnangagwa questioned the rationale behind such a request, pointing out that both Zimbabwe and Russia share the experience of being targeted by American sanctions. He argued that victims of the same sanctions should be able to engage in dialogue and find common ground.

Mnangagwa emphasized that under the Second Republic, Zimbabwe is actively pursuing engagement with all countries and international organizations without seeking to make enemies. Mnangagwa expressed the desire to re-establish relationships with those who had previously disengaged from Zimbabwe for various reasons. He emphasized that while engagement is crucial, Zimbabwe will maintain its independence and not allow itself to be swayed by the conflicts between other nations.

Furthermore, Mnangagwa revealed that Zimbabwe is in the process of applying for adoption into the G20 countries, expressing the nation’s aspiration to be part of the global community.

In a separate statement, Mnangagwa called upon Zimbabweans to campaign and vote peacefully during the harmonized elections scheduled for August 23. He described Zimbabwe as one of the most peaceful nations in Africa and urged citizens to participate in the electoral process and support the ruling ZANU-PF party. Mnangagwa highlighted the country’s ongoing economic recovery and attributed it to the developmental and all-encompassing economic policies of the Second Republic.

As Zimbabwe looks ahead to the future, Mnangagwa’s remarks emphasize the nation’s commitment to maintaining its independence and sovereignty while engaging with the international community on its own terms. The President’s stance reflects Zimbabwe’s desire to promote dialogue and peaceful resolutions to conflicts, rather than being coerced into taking sides.-state media

Govt Lifts Ban on Parental Visits to Boarding Schools

The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education in Zimbabwe has recently announced the lifting of a ban on parents and guardians visiting their children in boarding schools. The ban, which was implemented in response to the Covid-19 outbreak in 2020, aimed to minimize the spread of the virus within educational institutions. While the government believes that the country is no longer treating Covid-19 as a public health emergency of international concern, the ministry has emphasized the need to retain standard operating procedures to ensure the safety of students and staff against respiratory infections.

Revisiting Pre-Covid Times

In a circular issued by the Primary and Secondary Education Permanent Secretary, Mrs Tumisang Thabela, the decision to lift the ban on parental visits to boarding schools was based on a Cabinet directive. The Cabinet referred to a statement by the World Health Organization (WHO) indicating that Covid-19 no longer constitutes a public health emergency of international concern. This aligns with the government’s position that the threat of the pandemic has reduced significantly.

Adherence to Health Guidelines

Although parents and guardians are now allowed to visit their children in boarding schools, the Ministry of Education remains committed to upholding health and safety protocols. The mandatory wearing of masks and social distancing measures are no longer required, but certain precautionary measures will continue to be enforced to curb the spread of respiratory infections within learning institutions.

According to Mrs Thabela, schools will maintain temperature screening upon entry, strict hand-washing practices, the availability of clean water, and high standards of sanitation and hygiene. These measures have proven effective in minimizing the transmission of not only Covid-19 but also other communicable and influenza-like diseases. By adhering to these protocols, the ministry aims to create a safe and healthy environment for students, staff, and visitors alike.

Ongoing Vaccination Program

In line with Cabinet directives, the Ministry of Education emphasizes the continuation of the vaccination program in schools. Vaccinating citizens aged 12 and above remains a crucial aspect of the government’s efforts to control the spread and impact of the pandemic. By encouraging vaccination within the school community, the ministry aims to contribute to the overall health and well-being of students, staff, and their families.

The decision by Zimbabwe’s Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education to lift the ban on parental visits to boarding schools signifies a positive step towards returning to normalcy in the education sector. While the country no longer treats Covid-19 as a public health emergency of international concern, the ministry is committed to maintaining key health protocols to safeguard the well-being of students and staff. By striking a balance between allowing parental visits and enforcing necessary preventive measures, the ministry aims to create a conducive learning environment that prioritizes both safety and the emotional well-being of students.- state media

Small Scale Miners Urge Govt to Change Mining Law for Protection from Bullies

Small to medium scale miners in Zimbabwe have raised concerns over a mining law that grants exclusive rights to individuals possessing large tracts of land under an exclusive prospecting order (EPO). The law has resulted in prospective miners struggling to obtain new claims, hindering the country’s vision of achieving a US$12 billion mining economy. In a meeting with President Mnangagwa, the miners emphasized the need for corrective measures to address the current challenges faced by the mining sector.

Exclusivity of EPOs:
The national coordinator of the small to medium scale miners’ group, Mr. Rodrick Mumbire, highlighted that a few elites held EPOs, granting them exclusive control over substantial land areas of up to 35,000 hectares. This exclusivity has left the majority of prospective miners without access to land for gold exploration. Furthermore, it has been observed that many of the areas held under EPOs remain idle, without any productive mining activities taking place.

Impact on Mining Industry Growth:
The concerns raised by the miners are crucial for the growth of the mining industry and the nation’s economy as a whole. Small to medium scale miners contribute a significant 60 percent of the total gold mined in the country. Their role in achieving the government’s target of a US$12 billion mining economy cannot be overlooked. Thus, addressing the obstacles faced by these miners is essential for the sustainable development of the sector.

Presidential Response:
President Mnangagwa assured the miners that their concerns would be thoroughly examined by the Ministry of Mines and Mining Development. Recognizing the miners’ expertise and their position as the primary stakeholders in the industry, the President emphasized the importance of incorporating their advice and perspectives in decision-making processes. By doing so, the government aims to make informed choices that prioritize the well-being and success of small to medium scale miners.

Promoting Peaceful and Harmonious Mining:
President Mnangagwa commended the miners for the prevailing peace within the sector, noting that the violent activities associated with machete gangs were now a thing of the past. Under the Second Republic, the government has actively advocated against violence in mining and emphasized the need for cooperation and harmony. The President emphasized that all miners should respect each other’s rights and property, discouraging any form of illegal takeovers or disputes.

Supporting Women in Mining:
In addition to addressing the concerns of small to medium scale miners, President Mnangagwa highlighted the government’s commitment to supporting women in mining. This initiative aims to promote gender equality and empower women in the sector, recognizing their significant contributions to the growth of the mining industry and the national economy.

Conclusion:
The appeals made by small to medium scale miners to scrap the mining law granting exclusivity to individuals holding EPOs are critical for the development of the mining industry in Zimbabwe. By considering their concerns and taking corrective actions, the government can create a more inclusive and equitable mining environment. This, in turn, will support the nation’s goal of achieving a US$12 billion mining economy while fostering peace, harmony, and sustainable growth within the sector.

Mnangagwa Unwilling To Cede Power?

Zanu PF Presidential candidate Emmerson Mnangagwa said he would not let power go even if he loses the August polls.

Officially launching the ruling party’s campaign for the August 23 elections in Chipinge, Mnangagwa said that Zanu PF would do everything to keep power.

Mnangagwa presided over the event attended by Zanu PF supporters during the launch of the party’s 2023 campaign at Mutema Secondary School in Musikavanhu constituency in Chipinge.

He was accompanied by his deputies Constantino Chiwenga, who doubles up as the country’s vice president and Health minister and Kembo Mohadi.

“The country will remain in our hands,” Mnagagwa said.

“We fought for our democracy, no one will stop us. We will do what we can to remain in power.

“Zanu PF is unstoppable; Zanu PF will continue to rule.”

Mnangagwa and other Zanu Pf officials refrained from mentioning exiled ex-minister and former party member Saviour Kasukuwere, who is contesting the polls as an independent candidate. There are fears in the ruling party that Kasukuwere may eat into Zanu PF votes.

“Zanu PF shed blood for this country and no other party fought for this country, Zanu PF is a colossal party,” Mnangagwa said before calling for peace before, during and after the elections.

“We want peace, unity and harmony. We may come from different communities but we are one country and we should not work as individuals.”

Mnangagwa said they were going to erect solar powered boreholes for traditional leaders.

“Let’s respect our traditional leaders, each of the traditional leaders will get a solar-driven borehole,” he said.

“We have 35 000 village heads, that is the programme we started 2 to 3 years ago.”
The move by Mnangagwa has been seen as a campaign strategy ahead of the 2023 elections.

He is facing stiff challenge from Citizens Coalition for Change leader Nelson Chamisa and nine other candidates in the presidential race. Standard

Gun violence is a significant problem in South Africa, with high levels of gun-related crimes such as murder, assault, and robbery. This issue results from various factors, including organised crime, gang violence, and a culture of violence. Illegal firearms and gun trafficking also contribute to the problem.

A Perilous Path: The Continued Assault on Opposition Freedoms in Zimbabwe

By Munyaradzi Mugomeza| In Zimbabwe, a nation once heralded as the breadbasket of Africa, the hope for true democracy remains under siege. The ruling ZANU-PF party’s persistent harassment of opposition leaders and supporters, coupled with violence and the suppression of constitutional freedoms, paints a bleak picture of a country struggling to uphold democratic principles. These systematic violations not only erode the rights of individuals but also undermine the integrity of institutions meant to safeguard those rights.

The Harassment and Arrest of Opposition Leaders

Prominent opposition figures have frequently been the target of state harassment and arbitrary arrests. Nelson Chamisa, leader of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), has faced relentless intimidation, including the denial of permits for rallies and alleged surveillance by state agents.

In March 2023, several CCC members, including MP Job Sikhala, were arrested on charges widely seen as politically motivated. Sikhala, known for his vocal criticism of ZANU-PF, was detained without trial for months—a clear violation of his constitutional right to a fair and timely hearing.
Such cases reveal the government’s strategy to silence dissent through the misuse of law enforcement. The police, acting as an extension of the ruling party, have been accused of selectively enforcing the law, targeting opposition members while ignoring transgressions by ZANU-PF loyalists.

Violence Against Supporters

State-sponsored violence against opposition supporters is another critical issue. During the 2018 elections, post-election protests in Harare were met with brutal military force, resulting in the death of six civilians.

Reports from human rights organizations, including Amnesty International, highlight that these killings were neither investigated nor prosecuted, signaling impunity for state actors involved in such atrocities.

In rural areas, opposition supporters often face intimidation from traditional leaders aligned with ZANU-PF. Stories of villagers being forced to attend ruling party rallies under threat of eviction from their homes are commonplace.

This creates a culture of fear, suppressing political participation and consolidating ZANU-PF’s dominance.

Judicial Complicity and Erosion of Freedoms

The judiciary, an institution meant to be a bulwark against tyranny, has been criticized for its lack of impartiality in Zimbabwe. Judges have frequently ruled in favor of the government in politically charged cases, raising questions about their independence. For instance, during the 2018 presidential election dispute, the Constitutional Court dismissed Chamisa’s petition challenging the election results despite substantial evidence of irregularities. Critics argue that the ruling exemplified a judiciary unwilling to hold the executive accountable.

Furthermore, recent bans on opposition gatherings have been upheld by courts under dubious pretexts, such as public health concerns. These rulings often ignore constitutional guarantees of freedom of assembly and speech, effectively granting ZANU-PF unchecked authority to stifle opposition activity.

The Attack on Freedom of Association and Speech

Freedom of expression, enshrined in Zimbabwe’s Constitution, has become a casualty of the state’s authoritarian tactics. Independent journalists and media outlets face constant threats, with some reporters arrested for covering opposition events. The draconian Cyber Security and Data Protection Act has been weaponized to criminalize dissenting voices on social media.

In one alarming instance, journalist Hopewell Chin’ono was arrested multiple times for his outspoken criticism of government corruption and human rights abuses. His prolonged detention without trial became a symbol of the regime’s intolerance for dissent.

A Call for Accountability

The international community has not remained silent in the face of these abuses. Organizations such as Human Rights Watch and the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights have condemned the Zimbabwean government’s actions. However, condemnation alone has proven insufficient to bring about meaningful change.
Zimbabweans themselves, particularly civil society groups, have shown resilience in resisting repression. Movements like #ThisFlag and #ZimbabweanLivesMatter have amplified the plight of ordinary citizens, drawing global attention to the government’s authoritarian tactics.

Conclusion

The continued harassment, violence, and judicial complicity in Zimbabwe signal an urgent need for reform. A nation cannot claim to be democratic when opposition leaders are silenced, supporters live in fear, and fundamental freedoms are attacked with impunity.

ZANU-PF must be held accountable for these violations, both domestically and internationally. Zimbabweans deserve a government that respects their rights, protects their freedoms, and fosters an environment where political participation is not a dangerous act of defiance but a celebrated aspect of citizenship. Until these aspirations are realized, Zimbabwe will remain a democracy in name only, shackled by the chains of authoritarian rule.

Zimbabweans Win ZEPs Court Challenge

By- Pretoria High Court has ruled against the deportation by Home Affairs Minister Aaron Motsoaledi of Zimbabweans on the Zimbabwean Exemption Permits.

This comes after the Helen Suzman Foundation challenged the decision by the South African government to terminate ZEPs.

The Pretoria High Court delivered its judgment on Wednesday after arguments in the matter were heard in April.

In its ruling, the high court has also declared the government’s November 2021 decision to grant a limited extension for the ZEP holders as unconstitutional and invalid.
It was found that the process was unfair in that Motsoaledi failed to consult ZEP holders.

The decision was, therefore, set aside by the court and as a result, the minister has been directed to reconsider the matter.
In addition, the court directed that ZEP shall remain valid for the next 12 months and further ruled that Home Affairs must allow holders to enter or depart from South Africa provided that they meet immigration requirements and have a valid passport.

Zimbabweans without the permit must not be arrested or deported during this period.
The department and other parties, who opposed the application, were ordered to pay the costs of the applicants – including the costs of two counsel.
Alongside the HSF, organisations such as ZEP Holders Association (Zepha), the Zimbabwe Immigration Federation and the All Truck Drivers Forum and Allied South Africa (ATDFASA) also took Motsoaledi to court in a bid to overturn the decision to scrap the special permits.
They argued that government’s decision to renew the ZEP will result in holders being undocumented due to the difficulty of obtaining alternative permits that would allow them to continue living and working in South Africa.

Earlier this month, Motsoaledi extended the ZEP deadline by six months to 31 December, citing a wave of visa and waiver applications from affected Zimbabwean nationals.
The initial deadline was 30 June.
According to the minister, the decision was taken to give the ZEP holders an opportunity to apply for one or other visas provided for in the Immigration Act, which they may qualify for.
Various organisations – including controversial Operation Dudula – have since accused Motsoaledi of failing to protect South Africans, saying the minister has “sold out” South Africans.
The ZEP has allowed tens of thousands of Zimbabweans to live, work and study in South Africa since 2009 as part of the Dispensation of Zimbabweans Project (DZP).
About 295 000 Zimbabweans applied and about 245 000 permits were issued at the time.

Gold Mafia Starman Apologizes To Mnangagwa

Businessman Ewan Macmillan, one of the alleged gold smuggling and money laundering kingpins interviewed in the Qatar-based television news network Al Jazeera’s Gold Mafia documentary series, has apologised saying he made the remarks under the influence of alcohol.

This comes months after the 52-year-old merchant and several others, including Zimbabwe’s ambassador-at-large Uebert Angel were exposed in the news network’s sting operation claiming they could launder millions of US dollars on behalf of President Emmerson Mnangagwa and government as a sanctions-busting measure.

In a brief statement yesterday, Macmillan said: “I would like to apologise to my family, friends, fellow Zimbabweans and to all those people… offended (by) my behaviour and comments as shown in the recent Al Jazeera Gold Mafia series.

“I made many statements under the influence of alcohol that were boastful, untrue, derogatory and malicious that have caused harm to those around me, in business with me… industry that I had worked in… Zimbabwe banking and financial sectors, and those in important positions of authority..,” he said, adding he was “thoroughly embarrassed about the whole incident.”

While others named in the documentary have threatened to sue the Arabian broadcaster, government initially dismissed it as a smear campaign ahead of the August 23 poll.

Government later said it was investigating the matter to clear its name. Some of the alleged perpetrators had their bank accounts briefly frozen.

Jesca Makusha Dies in UK, Following Short Battle With Cancer

Zimbabwean Jesca Makusha Remembered for Her Courageous Battle with Cancer, GoFundMe Campaign Established to Honor Her Memory

By A Correspondent | In a heart-wrenching turn of events, Jesca Makusha Griffits, a 40-year-old Zimbabwean residing in the UK, lost her life on June 16th, 2023, following a short but fierce battle with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia. The news of her untimely passing has left her friends and loved ones devastated, prompting the establishment of a GoFundMe campaign to raise £5000 in her memory.

Jesca’s journey with cancer began when she started experiencing persistent fatigue, which persisted for eight excruciating months. Eventually, she received the devastating news of her terminal diagnosis, shaking the foundations of her world and causing profound sadness among those who knew and cared for her.

Despite the immense challenges posed by her illness, Jesca faced them with unwavering determination and an unyielding spirit. Throughout her ordeal, she clung to hope, buoyed by moments of light amidst the darkness—successful transplant procedures and two remission declarations. However, fate had a different plan, and Jesca ultimately lost her courageous battle.

Although Jesca did not have immediate family in the UK, her exceptional capacity for selflessness and love had brought her a tight-knit circle of devoted friends, formed through her work. These friends rallied together to support her, standing by her side through the difficult journey. Even in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, Jesca selflessly provided her support, alleviating the strain on the overburdened healthcare system. Tragically, her mission was cut short when she received her diagnosis in March 2022.

Before her illness, Jesca had touched the lives of countless individuals and played a significant role in saving souls. Her impact on everyone she encountered was profound, and now, her friends are determined to ensure she receives the honorable and dignified farewell she deserves—an expression of the love she gave and the love she will forever inspire. Jesca’s cremation will take place in England, with the specific service and cremation date yet to be confirmed. Following the cremation, her ashes will be returned to Zimbabwe, where her family will bid their final farewells and scatter her remains. In this time of need, Jesca’s friends humbly request the assistance of the community. Every contribution, regardless of its size, will make a tremendous difference in honoring Jesca’s memory. They also ask for your help in spreading the word about the campaign, sharing Jesca’s story, and ensuring that her legacy endures.

The High Court will Friday sit to hear an urgent application filed by Zanu PF activist, Lovedale Mangwana to have 2023 presidential candidate Saviour Kasukuwere disqualified from the race for allegedly breaching provisions of the constitution and the Electoral Act.

The matter will be heard by Justice David Mangota.

The exiled former cabinet minister and one-time Zanu PF political commissar is contesting the poll as an independent candidate.

But before he could have his campaign on track, Kasukuwere has to get the legality of his ambitious bid out of the way.

Mangwana is seeking an order setting aside the decision to accept the once influential politician’s nomination papers by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC).

He argues that this was done in violation of section 91 of the Constitution.

In his founding affidavit, Mangwana also said the Electoral Act does not allow a candidate who has been out of the country for over 18 months to contest for president.

“I submit that the decision to accept first respondent’s nomination paper is in breach of section 91 (1) (d) of the Constitution and invalid,” he said.

The activist said it is public record that Kasukuwere has been away for over a year.

He further challenges the politician to prove him wrong.

Mangwana said he has also written to ZEC complaining about the matter but was advised to approach the Electoral Court within four days of the sitting of the Nomination Court.

Kasukuwere struck enmity with then Vice President Mnangagwa when he fronted a Zanu PF faction that was fiercely opposed to the now Zimbabwe incumbent’s spirited maneuvers to succeed then President Robert Mugabe during the pinnacle of the party’s succession wars back in 2017.

His efforts were derailed by a bloodless military coup against Mugabe November 2017 in place of his nemesis.

Kasukuwere’s return from exile has been stifled by threats of prosecution over a slew of criminal charges levelled against him by the Mnangagwa regime.

He allegedly committed the offences during his tenure as cabinet minister.

There are suggestions Mnangagwa could have a vested interest in Mangwana’s challenge against Kasukuwere’s legitimacy as a candidate amid fears he could chip away at the Zimbabwe leader’s support base.

Defiant Mnangagwa Warned Again

Commissioner Ourveena Geereesha Topsy-Sonoo, the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Expression and Access to Information has written to President Emmerson Mnangagwa, advising him against signing the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Amendment Bill into law.

Commissioner Topsy-Sonoo warned that the Bill, popularly known as the Patriot Bill will have far-reaching consequences on freedom of expression and association in Zimbabwe if signed into law.

In a letter to President Mnangagwa last week, the Commissioner advised that the proposed law will have the effect of curtailing the exercise of rights such as media freedom and freedom of expression, the right to privacy, access to information, freedom of conscience, political rights, freedom to demonstrate and petition, and freedom of assembly and association.

The Patriot Bill, Commissioner Topsy-Sonoo said, will potentially cripple the work and mandate of non-governmental organisations.

“This will affect the work of human rights-related organisations whose task is to observe and seek redress on human rights violations most of which are committed by state and non-state actors. This conflict between the government and human rights civil society will severely shrink, if not kill civic space,” she said.

She warned that the Bill will severely infringe the right to privacy, as it has the potential of
creating further avenues for surveillance, tracking of internet usage and accessing of private communication records.

On 31 May 2023, the National Assembly passed the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Amendment Bill, with the Senate subsequently following suit.

The Bill is now awaiting Presidential assent before it becomes law.

The Patriot Bill follows on the heels of the Private Voluntary Organisations Amendment Bill, which is also awaiting presidential assent before it comes into effect.

Both Bills have been criticised as having a chilling effect on freedom of assembly, the right to free expression and the right to privacy, among other rights.

‘Loser’, Chamisa Labels Mnangagwa

Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) president Nelson Chamisa says the political environment in Zimbabwe is not “normal” or conducive for the holding of elections in under two months and called his rival a “loser”.

Chamisa, who fronts the biggest opposition party in the country, is again seen as the biggest challenge to President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s bid for a second term after the 2018 poll which was settled by the courts.

In a televised interview with South African Broadcasting Corporation on Sunday this week, Chamisa pleaded with Southern African Development Community (Sadc) to facilitate a peaceful poll.

Tensions are raising with each passing day after the Zanu-PF leader told supporters in Chipinge on Saturday that the party would not relinquish power and that it was “unstoppable”.

“Don’t you know that losers are bold even in the face of defeat, what do you want him (Mnangagwa) to say? The writing is on the wall, he has failed in all the terms, economy, look at the inflation, the level of corruption, Gold Mafia, Zimbabwe is in a difficult situation,” Chamisa responded in the interview.

“We (Zimbabwe) are a headache to South Africa, Malawi, Zambia and Botswana. We are a headache to our neighbours. That is why we are calling to Sadc to intervene.

“We are calling Sadc to support a peaceful election which is free and fair. Zimbabwe is not in a normal environment for elections. We will win against all odds.”

Chamisa alleged that the voters roll was being changed regularly and that as a party they were yet to receive a copy.

The opposition party has alleged intimidation by the Zanu-PF-linked affiliate Forever Associates Zimbabwe (Faz) in rural areas.

Meanwhile, CCC spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere said the party was planning to launch its campaign for the elections this week.

“This week, we look to the future with hope as we prepare to launch the biggest citizens campaign seen this side of the continent, no amount of forgery, dirty (tricks) or desperation from Zanu-PF will stop change,” Mahere said in the party’s internal Daily Digest.

She said CCC was excited with the new ways they were conducting their programmes.

“You see the bulk of our candidates are new faces who will bring new ideas in Parliament, in the next few weeks you are going to see them in your communities,” she said.

“The nomination court is over and we successfully filed for 210 Parliamentary candidates and over 1 920 council candidates.”

Mahere accused the ruling Zanu-PF of trying to discourage CCC members from voting.

“There are people who are trying to discourage the citizens not to vote, they should be ignored. Advocate Nelson Chamisa has said we are the next government, let’s choose change, credibility, let’s inspire and go and vote,” she said.

High Court Rescues Mwonzora From Heavy Embarrassment

The MDC-T on Tuesday lost its bid to force the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) to register 87 of its aspiring MPs who were rejected by the nomination court on June 21 after failing to pay candidate fees.

Justice Webster Chinamhora of the Harare High Court, sitting as an Electoral Court, said he had no jurisdiction to deal with the matter.

“Having upheld the argument (by ZEC) of lack of jurisdiction, I will not address the other points. I will strike the matter off the roll with no order as to costs,” the judge said after the MDC-T had filed an urgent application.

ZEC lawyer Tawanda Kanengoni said the procedure to be followed was that candidates dissatisfied with decisions of the nomination officer file an appeal to the Electoral Court within four days, and not do so as a party, or as an urgent chamber application.

“The application cannot be entertained by this court. The application is made by the MDC-T. It’s not made by a candidate. The party has no right to challenge the nomination of candidates. All 87 of these persons that are mentioned have concurrently filed an appeal before this court and it is pending. One would then wonder why the applicants who demonstrate full understanding would pursue the current application and ask this court to sit twice to determine the same issues,” Kanengoni argued.

The MDC-T, represented by Prof Lovemore Madhuku, had maintained that the matter was properly before the judge, arguing that “we know in terms of the Electoral Act that there are candidates and sponsoring parties.”

“Here you have a political party and the route that they have taken is properly provided for. The Electoral Court must deal with all matters. The right of appeal does not take away other rights of access to this court. Section 161 of the Electoral Act says that this court cannot try criminal cases. That exclusion must be the only exclusion that is allowed in this court. The political party can approach this court,” Madhuku vainly argued.

Nomination courts rejected 87 of the MDC-T’s candidates after the party tried a system of “centralised payment” where it wanted to pay ZEC for all its candidates in one transaction, instead of giving money to individual candidates in the same way that other parties did. Candidates for MP were required to pay US$1,000 or the equivalent in Zimbabwe dollars.

The party has not said how many candidates successfully filed papers to run for council or MP. Insiders said “about seven” successfully filed nomination papers in Matebeleland North.

Party spokesman Witness Dube told the Voice of America’s Studio 7 on Tuesday: “Our candidate nomination issue has not succeeded in court. We maintain a little bit of hope because there is another court process initiated, but we have to concede that our chances of rescuing the situation are diminishing.

“We disagree strongly with how ZEC has dealt with our matter. But with the benefit of hindsight, one must say that perhaps if our candidates had money on them, or means to pay as individuals on the day, we would not be having this problem. It’s an important lesson for our party and our leaders that matters like these must be dealt with in a much, much better way next time.”

Zimbabweans vote in genera elections on August 23. The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission said it intends to publish final list of candidates by June 30.

Collapsing Economy To Cost Zanu PF’s Election Victory

By- Zanu PF party and its Presidential candidate Emmerson Mnangagwa is heading for an embarrassing defeat to the opposition because of the failing economy and high inflation the ruling party has failed to address for two decades.

Mnangagwa last week launched his campaign for a second term promising to revive the collapsed economy despite being at its helm since 1980.

Mnangagwa, seeking re-election amid a raging economic crisis characterised by high inflation and a plummeting currency, vowed to develop infrastructure, power generation, and the mining economy. He stated that his government had made progress in these areas, with hopes of generating $12 billion in mining revenue by 2023. He said while addressing a large crowd of supporters in Chipinge, about 500 km (311 miles) east of the capital Harare at the weekend:

ZANU-PF is unstoppable. It will continue governing Zimbabwe as other parties continue to split assunder.

We fought for our democracy, no one will stop us.

We are building roads and dams and recently we started installing solar boreholes in every village across the country.

Mnangagwa’s strongest challenger is expected to be the 45-year-old pastor and lawyer Nelson Chamisa, the leader of the Citizens Coalition for Change party, who gained considerable support in towns and cities.

However, Mnangagwa remains confident in his party’s ability to lead Zimbabwe, stating that ZANU-PF is “unstoppable” and will continue to govern Zimbabwe as other parties “split asunder.” The election is scheduled for August 23rd and comes amid criticism of Mnangagwa’s government for allegedly closing the democratic space.

The election comes amid a raging economic crisis, with high inflation and a currency that plunged more than 50% this month against the U.S. dollar.

Churches’  Plead for  Peaceful Polls

By A Correspondent| As the country braces for this year’s  plebiscite, local  churches have called for stakeholders to shun violence to maintain peace.

Speaking  an event  at Johanne Masowe YeChishanu Nyenyedzi Nomwe in Budiriro on Saturday , Council for Churches in Africa president, Archbishop Dr Rocky Moyo said it was imperative for political leaders not to incite violence during the impending polls.

“As churches we are strongly urging our political leaders across the political divide to ensure that we hold peaceful elections. They should not incite citizens to be involved political violence.

” It is only peace which attracts economic development, “argued Dr Rocky Moyo.

He said church leaders also  have an influential role to broker peace and unite the nation.

“Our church leaders have a very big role in ensuring peace prevail because they command a number of people. If you want a call to be heed, church leaders have the means at their disposal.

” We need them to be invited at political gatherings so they can be able to preach peace and unite citizens during the elections,” added the CCA leader.

” This country has witnessed disturbing reports of scandalous prophets hence this gathering helps to rein in such deviant characters,” said the soft-spoken church leader.

According to Madzibaba Enock, born Herbert Thabo Senda, the apostolic church is a modern congregation which believe in educating the girl child and discarding most conservative church doctrines associated with a ‘white garment’ churches.

“We want to move with the times and as such this congregation encourages girls to get education.

” There is no way we can remain stuck with some of the rigid doctrines our churches used to uphold, we are going to build schools and clinics,” said Madzibaba Enock.

The event was also graced by PastorsforED executive members led by the chairperson Idiraishe Dongo. The crowd was thrilled by performances from gospel musicians  Booster (Brighton Mutanda) and King Solomon (Solomon Aaron Kaporoma).
The church which is an affiliate of Council for Churches in Africa(CCA) donated a car to the latter  for effective campaigns on eradicating early marriages and girl child abuse.

Zimbabwe Banks Struggle to Secure Foreign Currency Amidst Liquidity Crunch

Zimbabwean banks faced significant challenges in acquiring foreign currency during the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe’s (RBZ) wholesale foreign currency auction yesterday, as the market grappled with a severe Zimbabwe dollar liquidity crunch. Only one-third of the available foreign currency, amounting to US$10 million, was purchased by banks for onward sale to their clients out of the US$30 million on offer.

The RBZ introduced the wholesale auction as a measure to enable banks to acquire forex on behalf of their clients. It had previously guaranteed a minimum of US$15 million per week to inject liquidity into the foreign exchange market. However, the ongoing liquidity crunch in the Zimbabwean dollar undermined the banks’ ability to participate fully in the auction.

Over the past two months, authorities implemented several interventions to stabilize the exchange rate and mitigate the rapid depreciation of the Zimbabwe dollar, which had triggered substantial price increases. These measures included transferring external payment obligations from the RBZ to the Treasury, making most duties payable in the local currency, and raising the bank policy rate from 140 percent to 150 percent.

Last week, the Treasury announced additional measures aimed at promoting the use of the domestic currency, such as the payment of all corporate taxes in the local currency. For the June 2023 Quarterly Payment Date (QPD), taxpayers are required to settle 50 percent of the foreign currency portion of their corporate tax obligations in local currency. The government emphasized that it would not accept payments in US dollars or any other foreign currency for the local currency portion of corporate income tax due in the June QPD.

Market reports indicate that banks have been struggling to secure sufficient Zimbabwe dollar funding to purchase more than US$1 million at any given time since the introduction of the wholesale auction. This limited access to funds has affected their ability to participate fully in the auction and meet the demands of their clients for foreign currency.

Economist Tinevimbo Shava acknowledged the impact of demand-driving policies, stating that reduced demand would likely lead to a drop in the exchange rate. Shava expressed support for the initiative, suggesting that under the prevailing conditions, the exchange rate could settle around $5,000 to $6,000 per US dollar.

Lawrence Nyazema, President of the Bankers Association of Zimbabwe (BAZ), explained that the recent withdrawal of excess local currency from the market through fiscal and monetary measures had contributed to the scarcity of Zimbabwe dollars. Tax obligations being payable in the local currency increased demand, compelling US dollar earners to liquidate their foreign currency earnings.

Nyazema commended the current Dutch Auction System, stating that it had brought about a constant supply of foreign currency in excess of demand on the official market. He expressed satisfaction that the measures had encouraged those earning in foreign currency to contribute to the stability of the foreign exchange market by liquidating some of their proceeds.

Economist Dr. Prosper Chitambara emphasized the positive impact of creating demand for the local currency. He believed that requiring companies to settle their tax obligations in the local currency would enhance its value and stabilize the exchange rate.

As the Zimbabwean government continues its efforts to stabilize the foreign exchange market, the liquidity crunch and limited access to foreign currency pose significant challenges for banks. The success of the wholesale auction system will depend on addressing the liquidity constraints and ensuring a consistent supply of foreign currency to meet the demands of the market.-Agencies

Night Club Murder: Suspect In Court

Suspect Accused of Fatally Assaulting Man at Night Club Appears in Court.

Harare, June 28, 2023 – Calisto Murawo (44), the suspect involved in the alleged murder of another man following an argument over a car park incident at a night club in Belgravia, Harare, made his first appearance in court today. Murawo stood before Harare magistrate Mrs Yeukai Dzuda, where he was not asked to enter a plea to the murder charges brought against him.

The court remanded Murawo in custody until July 12 and advised him to seek bail from the High Court. The accused will remain in custody until the bail hearing.

According to the allegations presented in court, the incident occurred on June 24 at the Afro 161 Restaurant and Night Club located at number 161 Sam Nujoma Street Extension in Belgravia, Harare. Calisto Murawo approached the victim, whose identity remains undisclosed, and his wife, Zinzi Musonza, in the club’s car park. Murawo allegedly accused Musonza of bumping into another parked car nearby.

In response to the accusation, the deceased exited his vehicle to inspect the alleged dent. As he examined the car, Murawo reportedly struck him on the mouth using a knuckle duster worn on his hand. Subsequently, the suspect proceeded to kick the victim in the head and neck area. The assault escalated further when Murawo stomped on the deceased’s neck. After a brief pause in the attack, the suspect returned to the victim and declared his intention not to leave, delivering another kick to the head.

Emergency services were called to the scene, and the severely injured victim was rushed to a nearby hospital. Tragically, the medical professionals at the hospital pronounced him dead upon arrival.

The court hearing provided a preliminary account of the events surrounding the alleged murder, shedding light on the brutal assault that took place in the night club’s car park. As the legal proceedings progress, further evidence and testimonies will likely be presented to ascertain the full details of the incident.

The case has drawn significant attention due to the severity of the alleged crime and the tragic loss of life. The court’s decision to remand Calisto Murawo in custody until the next hearing reflects the seriousness of the charges against him. The upcoming bail application at the High Court will determine whether the suspect will remain detained or be released pending further legal proceedings.

As the case continues to unfold, the court system will work diligently to ensure a fair and thorough investigation, seeking justice for the victim and his family.

EU To Observe Zim Elections

By- Harare has invited the European Union (EU) to witness the August 23 harmonised polls.

The Government has invited regional, continental and international bodies to come and observe the general elections.

Other bodies that have been invited include the African Union (AU), Sadc, COMESA and the Commonwealth.

Writing on his official Twitter handle yesterday, the EU’s Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Jobst Von Kirchmann, said the European bloc “warmly welcomes” the country’s invitation.

He said the invitation was a testament that Harare and Belgium continue to strengthen their cooperation on all fronts.
“The #EU warmly welcomes the invitation from the Government of #Zimbabwe to observe the harmonised elections of 2023 in Zimbabwe.
“This invitation clearly demonstrates the trust, cooperation, and partnership between #Zimbabwe and the #EU,” wrote Ambassador Von Kirchmann.
Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) vice chairperson, Ambassador Rodney Kiwa, yesterday told The Herald that the invitation was proof that the country was committed to holding free, fair and credible elections.
He said the invitation also speaks volumes about Zimbabwe’s preparedness as well as its transparency.
“I am aware that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade has extended this invitation (to observe our election) to a number of regional, continental and international organisations and individual countries, including the EU, all in the spirit of affirming our commitment to run a transparent, free and fair election as well as expressing the confidence we have in our preparedness to conduct such an election.”
Amb Kiwa said the electoral body would issue periodic updates while revealing that more than 50 locally based individuals and institutions had expressed interest in observing the polls.
“Invited are SADC, COMESA, the AU, the Commonwealth, to name but some. Please note that the UN does not observe elections. I do not have the numbers of those who have expressed interest yet but as of now locals (individuals and institutions) exceed 50. Will update you as we go,” he said.
The deadline for observer applications to ZEC is August 18, four days before election day.
Local observers will be charged a fee of US$10, observers from the rest of Africa US$100, those from foreign embassies in Zimbabwe US$300, and observers from any country outside Africa US$400.
For the media, local journalists pay US$10, Zimbabwean journalists accredited with the Zimbabwe Media Commission and working in Zimbabwe for foreign media houses will pay US$100, and media practitioners from Africa will be charged US$100.
All applications will be considered and are subject to scrutiny by the Commission’s Observer Accreditation Committee, which will pass on its recommendations to ZEC.

Zanu PF Dumps Party Propaganda Gingle Maker For Mambo Dhuterere

By- Zanu PF has hired the services of Mambo Dhuterere for its election campaign gingles and ditched the party’s praise singer Chief Shumba Hwenje.

Hwenje is known for the song “ED Pfee”, which became an anthem at ZANU PF rallies ahead of the 2018 elections.
He recently released an album cover art and tracklist for an album set to be released ahead of the elections.
The album titled “Special Branch” carries 10 tracks- ED Chete, More Fire, Huchi, Saka Uchaita Sei, State House, Shumba Ngavapinde, Ndomuvhotera Chete, Chakabatwa Kuti Dzvii, Mai Wellie, and Mpela Mpela.
According to the Standard reported Hwenje was informed that Mambo Dhuterere was going to be the official campaign praise singer and is set to release an album ahead of the elections. Said the source in the Standard:
Hwenje was ready to entertain party supporters and also praise Mnangagwa.
He is a tried and tested musician and it came as a surprise that Mambo Dhuterere was going to take Hwenje’s place after all the preparations.
Mambo Dhuterere is set to release songs that praise Mnangagwa that will be used during ZANU PF’s campaign.
The musician has two yet-to-be-released songs that praise Mnangagwa.
One of them is titled “ZANU PF Kuwinner Mugariro” and another one features musician-cum politician Sandra Ndebele.
Ndebele is running for a municipal seat in Ward 20, Pelandaba-Tshabalala in Bulawayo under a ZANU PF ticket.
Pride Mkono, a political analyst and activist castigated musicians who get involved in politics for money. Said Mkono:
Most of these so-called musicians are opportunists and political activists of the ruling party hiding behind art.
It is an indictment that they have been trying to reinvent themselves through politics when most of their careers are all but done.
To them, joining politics is being part of the gravy train.
They want to eat with the elites who are oppressing and stealing from the masses.
Mambo Dhuterere launched his album “Nadah Pachiputukezi” in January 2023 at a ceremony that was held at the Harare International Conference Centre and graced by politicians, mainly from ZANU PF.
At the launch, the album was auctioned for US$30 000.

Here Are the Progressive Gains Of Voting For ED- Mavaza

By Dr Masimba Mavaza- The clock is ticking the heart bits loudly with anxiety. Every second which passes puts us closer to 23 August. Elections come and go, but this election is the mother of
All elections. They come when our sovereignty is under attack. The freedom inscribed and forged in our hearts with blood and fire is threatened to be erased by the lies of traitors.
Zimbabweans, where ever we are, we need to guard our independence jealously with our own lives. Zimbabwe needs Continuity in government and in developing the country. We are on our way towards a middle-income economy by 2030. We do not need to change the winning team.
Zimbabweans must never advocate for change for the sake of change. Don’t bring change for the sake of change.
Change must not be disruptive. We will be within reach of the middle income by 2030.
The economic problems we face now are just passing. There is no miracle resuscitation of the economy as being said by CHAMISA that if he is given the country, he will change its fortunes in two days. This mantra is backward and akin to the prosperous gospel by fake prophets. The way CCC is being run shows clearly that CHAMISA has no strategy or at least he did not tell anyone about it if at all it is there. He has no plans and must never persuade you to change the government in exchange of no plans.
We can see that CCC has secretly romped in Tyson Kasukuwere. Tyson is merely being used to be disruptive and playing the role of a spoiler; remember, these are the JECHA boys in action.

Tyson is talking big. He spoke of corruption. He owns a house which has 40 bedrooms. He owns 40 houses. He talks of corruption, yet he can not account for his riches. It will be your alternative.
We must remember that ED has shown great statesmanship, and his developmental projects are there for all to see. The government is in touch and engaging with all players.

With the alternative being flighted in our faces, we have those who are backbiters who will surely do the same if you put them in power. Let’s look at the CCC. CHAMISA fires Biti, which shows manoeuvring between Chamisa and SaviourKasukuwere. CHAMISA had to drop Biti to accommodate Tyson. As we all heard in Tyson’s press statement, they are preparing for a coalition, a GNU. Biti will not be a player in parliament and government.
Biti has been stripped of his powers; we all know that you need a constituency to be strong in politics. If you have no constituency, you are an emperor without clothes. Why was Biti not protected? It is Chamisa’s character to dribble friends if he can dribble Tsvangirai Biti Mwonzora. What about you. This is a lesson and a warning to is that we must not rush to a change motivated by a cheat. A political cheat.
We need Continuity and improve the revenue There are projects which needs Continuity. ED has set the ball rolling and must be given a chance to finish what he has started.
What CHAMISA has brought in the coming elections is Tyson. Tyson is a spoiler. Who is out of touch? He runs for a mile, throws a punch and then asks why they are fighting. He is relying upon the same structures. He is saying they are corrupt. He is fishing from the fridge. He brings his fishing line from South Africa and only fishes from the refrigerator. This is a plan by CCC to divide ZANU PF but this has already failed.
The treachery by CHAMISA to those around him must tickle the alarm bells.
Do not forget that CHAMISA has promised to bring back the Whiteman so that our economy will develop. Do you know what he will do to you once his white man come? If you are not sure, ask Biti. Biti was sacrificed for a Whitman. If he can do that to Biti what about you?
We must bear in mind that Continuity of government (COG) is a coordinated effort within each of the executive, legislative, and judicial branches and the people to ensure that essential functions continue to be performed before, during, and after an election.
We must realize that there are Progressive Gains of Continuity in Governance in any state.
By giving ED the chance of Continuity we will have created a great opportunity to grow a very germane issue central to the growth and flourishing democracy in our country Zimbabwe. Continuity will make us venture into problems that can promote and enhance the development of Zimbabwe by advocating for Continuity in governance and, by extension, good governance as led and shown by the administration of ED Mnangagwa. The world community has identified these issues as necessary in modern times, particularly in developing countries such as Zimbabwe. There are gains and benefits inherent in Continuity in government.
While we recognize the magnitude of this daunting and herculean task, we will do our best within the few months allocated to give ED the chance to finish his dream for Zimbabwe.
We must find a way to ensure stability and Continuity in governance in Zimbabwe, which we sincerely require at this moment in the life of Zimbabwe.
There are significant gains and benefits in giving the government adequate time to remain in office to actualize its objectives, primarily where they have been known or seen to make positive impacts, like in the present dispensation in Zimbabwe. This is because governments worldwide exist to provide public goods, and where they are on track, like in the present dispensation in Zimbabwe, they require more time to actualize their development programmes and projects, transforming the entire landscape of Zimbabwe and impacting the lives of the citizenry. In only five years, MNANGAGWA has shown his passion for building Zimbabwe. He has told us that we all have a say in rebuilding our country. Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo.
Continuity is the unbroken and consistent existence or operation of something over time. Also, Continuity can be seen as the fact of something continuing for an extended period of time without being changed or stopped. In other words, Continuity means the state of continuing over time without change or interruption.
Governance has been variously defined as “the management of society by the people” and “the exercise of authority or control to manage a country’s affairs and resources. We must remember that governance is the exercise of economic, political and administrative authority to manage a country’s affairs at all levels. It comprises of the mechanisms, processes and institutions through which citizens and groups articulate their interests, exercise their legal rights, meet their obligations and mediate their differences. Governance means a more cooperative way of government, where state and non-state institutions, public and private actors, take part and often cooperate in public policy formulation and implementation; it leaves no one out. Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo.
In five years, MNANGAGWA has shown an efficient public service, a reliable judicial system, and an administration accountable to the public. He will continue to develop if he is given a second chance to develop.
According to the Bank’s definition, the key components of Good Governance include effectiveness and efficiency in public sector management, accountability and responsiveness of public officials to the citizenry, the rule of law and public access to information and transparency. This ED and his government did this without fail.
In summary, governance may be described as the processes, regulations or the results of interactions between the legislative and executive governments, the civil society, the judiciary, and the people.
It should be noted that good governance principles have been applied to different tiers of government, such as national, regional and local levels, yes, we had challenges with some few who abused their authority but the hand of the law is knocking on their doors.
Continuity in governance must be a situation of permitting the system of control of social, political and economic operations of an entity such as a state to remain unchanged for a reasonable period of time to be able to accomplish their programmes as well as desire change and development. In other words, it is a situation where those exercising authority are not unduly changed. They are allowed to stay in office to impact lives within an acceptable period.
There is, therefore a great Need for Continuity in Government in Zimbabwe. It should be emphasized that stability and Continuity are indispensable ingredients of growth development in contemporary times. As Zimbabweans, we must never be known for vengeance, abandoning projects our predecessors initiated and starting new ones.
There are a number of projects initiated by Dr. ED Mnangagwa’s government which should be continued. These development projects that litter the landscape of our state include:
Harare Beitbridge motorway. Harare Bulawayo Motorway. Harare Mutare Motorway.
Roads connecting all our cities and rural districts. This does not make for accelerated development. Some of these projects are about to be completed thanks to the commitment of huge resources by ED’s government. If the government that initiated those projects is allowed to continue for some more years those projects would not suffer neglect, abandonment and waste. This by implication calls for Continuity in governance.
The need for Continuity in governance is what politicians and all Zimbabweans in should embrace, imbibe and permit to operate. This is not a call for seat-tight government but a case for reasonable time to be given governments to be able to carry out realistic development projects that are inadequate in the country. One of the most important reasons why we need Continuity in government is that it promotes and enhance development in all its ramifications such as social, economic, cultural and physical development.
Besides the above, Continuity in governance promotes and enhances good governance. One of the commonest symptoms of underdeveloped and backward societies is poor governance. In the history of human organization and settlement development one of the factors that accounted for the growth of earlier cities was the existence of organized social groups that provide leadership for others.
In all modern states, governmental functions have greatly expanded with the emergence of government as an active force in guiding social and economic development.Government has thus become the major or even the dominant organizing power in all contemporary societies and therefore require sufficient times to work.
A basic understanding of the role of government will reveal that it requires adequate time for planning of growth and development as well as implementation before results are achieved. Besides, political manipulations, the issue of Continuity could be seen in terms of provision of basic facilities and services for which government exist to provide. It should be added that it takes time for some projects such as road construct, dams etc to be accomplished. This again justify Continuity in governance. Otherwise government will only focus on light projects that does not make for sustainable development
Improvement and efficiency in governance as well as government activities. It is a known fact that efficiency is the driver of success for any organization, community or state. For government at local, and national levels drives it constituent’s satisfaction, and increased productivity, cost savings and revenue to the state. Therefore, this make support for Continuity to be indispensable and need to be supported.
We must remember that government generally exist for three main purpose of 1. maintaining social order, 2. providing public services and 3. as well as security and defense. This shows that the benefits of Continuity in governance that include sufficient time for planning and execution of long-term projects, elimination of wastes and efficiency in conducting government business among others. Therefore, for the above benefits to be rationalized, there is need for actions to promote Continuity in governance.
We must think and look around us. We must see what ED has done and what more can be done if he is given another chance.
As patriots, we must mobilize the populace on the desirability and the need to encourage and support stability and Continuity in governance, especially where they are making substantial and visible impacts on societal growth and development, as demonstrated by the present administration in Zimbabwe.
Voting for ED on 23 August will be a way forward in
creating and enabling an environment to encourage government officials that are performing to continue within the acceptable time allowed by existing law and practices, this is done within the fold of appropriate laws to crate stability and Continuity in government. Voting for ED now will increase the propensity of developing. As a true patriot a true Zimbabwean, let us increase our presence in the social media space to inform, educate and mobilize the entire citizenry on the desirability of Continuity of governance as well as the need to sustain the current tempo of development and governance structure in Zimbabwe.
We must never underestimate the importance of creating stability and Continuity in governance in Zimbabwe. For this 23 August 2023 it is essential and should be pursued by all. This is because stability and Continuity in governance is necessary to build on the benefits already achieved. This should and must not be compromised. As demonstrated above Continuity is quite beneficial and should be supported by all. Stability and Continuity in governance is vital for Zimbabwe now if her citizens want to live in peace and prosperity. To ensure that Continuity is achieved, the citizens must play their roles also by supporting the efforts of the leaders and the party like ZANU PF because they meant good for the people of the state by insisting and promoting Continuity in governance in the state. It is clear that guaranteeing Continuity in governance is the duty and responsibility of all. Iwe neni tine basa. Everyone has to play his role earnestly and sincerely. All groups must be ready to give and take (compromise) for the peace and good governance of Zimbanwe otherwise, they will be living in chaos and instability that has the possibility of making life progress difficult, uneasy and even may engender retrogression. God forbids.

All Set For Tomorrow’s Pomana City “within a city” Project Grand Launch

By Business Reporter – All is set for tomorrow, Wednesday’s official launch of the US$4 billion Pomona City ‘within a city’ project, putting to rest doubts about the genuineness of the prestigious life-changing housing project.

Invites sent to hundreds of beneficiaries, the media and stakeholders indicate that the grand official launch is set for tomorrow, Wednesday afternoon, at the site.

Project managers have invited beneficiaries and various stakeholders to witness the grand opening of their investment(s).

The launch of the multi-billion housing project signals WestProp’s commitment to constructing the massive gated mixed-use community.

Chief executive officer Mr Kenneth Sharpe is upbeat with the development and has promised “a changed face of Harare”.

The entrance gatehouse has a sales house, a guard room, artificial intelligence gadgets, a green energy charge room to power the facility, and surveillance cameras.

“We are introducing new facilities and attractions to the development. We have copied from the best practices globally. We are not only selling residential stands. We are offering an investment in a lifestyle community where you live, work, shop and play,” he said recently.

Some individuals who bought stands at the development have started building their properties bringing to reality the Pomona dream.

The investment makes the development one of Zimbabwe’s most massive single infrastructure capital injections.

Dubbed a city within a city because of its attributes that bring all urban aspects of life, work, shop and play into one community, Pomona City sets to be a significant prototype development that would be copied and replicated by other developers.

World-renowned architects were engaged to work on the master plan and building structures, making the development a fusion of cultures and very cosmopolitan.

The lifestyle community development combines the use of technology, communal living spaces and unique social amenities that differentiate the estate from the traditional suburban designs. The social amenities are exclusively reserved for the owners of properties to preserve privacy and uphold the value.

Infrastructure developments and designs at Pomona City mirror the ones largely found in Dubai, with traits similar to the ones in modern world capitals.

“We believe Dubai has the quality and excellence that we can bring to Zimbabwe. We are walking our talk. We believe in being disruptive,” he says.

One of the unique features of the Pomona City phase 2 is the introduction of the leasehold model, a “completely new feature in Zimbabwe but very common in developed economies”.

The leasehold model makes the acquisition of property much cheaper as it removes the bulk cost of the land. The property owner only acquires the building and leases the land from the developer.

“The affordability is much easier when one commits resources to the built-up unit only and not the land. The cost of land has been an inhibiting factor in property ownership”, says Mr Sharpe, who is pioneering the model.

The property owner is expected to pay from as little as US$50 to $200 a month in land rentals. The leases are valid for up to 50 years and are renewed perpetually (forever) with the rights of ownership to the land separate so the property can be transferred when selling the building to any buyer or giving it to the homeowners’ beneficiaries.

“The affordability aspect is much easier when a home owner commits their funds building their home and not the land. The cost of land has been an inhibiting factor in property ownership and rapid growth of the market”, he says.

Dzvukamanja Receives Death Threats From Orlando Pirates Fans

Terrence Dzvukamanja has revealed that he received death threats from Orlando Pirates fans last year.

The Zimbabwean striker endured a frustrating spell at the Soweto Giants during the first half of the previous campaign.

He played just one game in that time and was at times dropped from the matchday squad.

His future looked bleak and was almost on his way out but coach Jose Riveiro decided to keep him.

Speaking in a SuperSport TV documentary, Dzvukamanja said he went through depression because of the threats.

“I received death threats, they didn’t want me here [at Pirates],” the Warriors international said.

“[It happened] last year, from September 2022 until December.

“They would come into my inboxes, and they called me — I don’t know where they got my number from.

“Even at malls … there was a time I went to a mall, and someone told me directly, ‘If you can’t leave, we will make you leave.’ I don’t respond in such cases.

“They would keep sending messages saying, ‘We know you are ignoring us, but if you don’t tell your agent or your bosses you want to leave, we will make you leave — or [make you] leave the earth’.

“By that time I had to tell my parents, my agent, even the boss of the team about what was happening.”- Soccer24 News

Nero-Job-Hungry Japajapa Says Chamisa’s Power Hungry After Getting Blocked

By A Correspondent | Renowned politician Paddington Japajapa, formerly associated with the opposition CCC party, made waves on Tuesday as he announced his departure from the party and his decision to join President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s ruling ZANU PF party. Japajapa’s surprising move was accompanied by sharp criticism of CCC party leader Nelson Chamisa, whom he accused of being power hungry. Furthermore, Japajapa expressed his disappointment at being denied parliamentary power, specifically referring to Chamisa’s own Kuwadzana parliamentary position.

Political analysts and commentators have been quick to weigh in on Japajapa’s defection. Among them, Wilbert Mukori, an analyst, stated that Japajapa’s primary motivation seemed to be his desire for a position of influence and the benefits that come with it. Mukori noted Japajapa’s prior vocal support of Chamisa and his sudden departure from the CCC party without any formal goodbyes. The analyst even claimed that Japajapa went as far as burning all his CCC regalia before joining ZANU PF.

Japajapa’s case is not an isolated incident, according to Mukori, as he highlighted the prevalence of politicians driven by personal gain rather than genuine commitment to democratic values. He cited the flawed electoral process of the 2013 elections as an example, explaining that both factions of the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) chose to participate despite the irregularities, fearing that the other faction would secure seats and lend credibility to the flawed process.

Mukori’s comments also shed light on the ZANU PF party’s refusal to address demands for a verified voters’ roll, illustrating their awareness that the opposition would participate in the elections regardless of the flaws present.

Japajapa’s defection to ZANU PF represents a significant political shift and has raised questions about his true motivations. While he accused Nelson Chamisa of being power hungry, some critics argue that Japajapa’s own pursuit of personal political gain cannot be overlooked. The move also highlights the complexity and dynamics of Zimbabwean politics, where alliances and party affiliations can shift unexpectedly.

As the nation prepares for the upcoming elections, Japajapa’s defection adds another layer of intrigue to an already intense political landscape. Only time will tell how this move will shape the dynamics of Zimbabwean politics and influence the upcoming electoral process.

Importance Of Breastfeeding

Mnangagwa Says Zanu PF Unstoppable

Standard

CCC Cowdray Park Candidates Vows To Floor Mthuli Ncube

By A Correspondent| Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC)’s aspiring candidate for Cowdray Park constituency, Pashor Raphael Sibanda, says he is unfazed by the developmental projects being implemented by Zanu PF candidate, Professor Mthuli Ncube.

The two will lock horns in the August 23 elections seeking to represent the newly created constituency in parliament.

Ncube, whose candidature was confirmed a few months ago, has hit the campaign trail, rolling out various projects including drilling boreholes, and repairing roads, in a bid to woo voters.

The CCC candidate was confirmed last week when he successfully submitted his nomination papers at the nomination court.

“This Zanu-PF candidate has been there for the past five years (in government as Finance Minister) and you can’t come to the people of Cowdray Park and try to change their minds three months before an election, that’s vote buying and that’s the rigging that we are always talking about and that’s why I said I am coming in to restore the dignity of our people because we are tired of people who take us for granted and treat Cowdray Park as if it’s a mere place where one can come and do this and then they get into leadership, we must be clear on that,” he said during an interview with a Bulawayo based online news organisation.

All that will not count, said Sibanda, who sounded confident of winning the election.

Sibanda said he grew up in the sprawling suburb and understands the challenges faced by residents first-hand.

He said he will launch his election manifesto soon which will outline his developmental agenda.

Sibanda also slammed the ruling party for initiating development projects during elections and stopping once the elections are over.

“I want Zanu PF to promise me that as soon as I get into Parliament that guy will continue building roads because if he is genuine, even when I am now in office, he must continue doing that, we will be happy to work with him.”

He added that the party has put in place mechanisms to ensure that there is no rigging.

‘Marry Chiwenga Should’ve Killed Both the VP And His Lazy Bodyguard,’ Court Farce

By Dorrothy Moyo | In a surprising twist of events, allegations of attempted murder have emerged against Marry Chiwenga, the former wife of Constantino Chiwenga, the Vice President of Zimbabwe. The accusations stem from a bodyguard’s claim that Marry attempted to disconnect the cables sustaining the ailing Vice President during his stay in a South African hospital in 2019. However, the absence of any police case, investigation, or even allegations made within the hospital raises significant doubts about the credibility of these claims.

Marry Chiwenga has strongly challenged her accusers, demanding evidence to support the allegations. She has even gone so far as to ask for pictures to identify the cables in question, further emphasizing the lack of substance behind the accusations. Many analysts have questioned the credibility of the allegations, considering the absence of any official complaint or investigation into the matter.

Moreover, it is worth noting that Marry Chiwenga herself was a victim of a bombing and poisoning incident in June 2018, which targeted both her and her husband. These incidents resulted in severe injuries and illness for Marry, making it highly unlikely that she would subsequently attempt to harm her husband. She has claimed that there were individuals sent by the government to her husband’s bedside in China who spread falsehoods about her intentions, further casting doubt on the veracity of the allegations.

One commentator, Tambudzai Tambudzai, sarcastically raises a valid point by asking, “Why didn’t Marry Chiwenga just kill the VP immediately if it was possible?” This question challenges the logic behind the allegations, suggesting that if Marry indeed had the intention to harm her husband, she could have done so without resorting to a purportedly elaborate plan involving hospital cables.

The absence of any recorded crime or investigation in South Africa, where the alleged incident took place, adds another layer of skepticism to the allegations. It raises questions about the timing and motives behind these accusations, especially considering the absence of supporting evidence or formal legal action.

While it is crucial to consider all claims seriously, it is equally important to scrutinize the credibility and verifiability of such allegations. In the case of Marry Chiwenga, the lack of an official investigation, police case, or even allegations within the hospital casts doubt on the validity of the accusations of attempted murder. As the controversy unfolds, it remains to be seen whether these allegations will gain any substantial traction or if they will be dismissed as baseless and unfounded.

In 2019, allegations emerged accusing Marry Chiwenga, the then-wife of Constantino Chiwenga, of attempting to murder her husband while he was receiving medical treatment in South Africa. However, with no police case ever launched against Marry Chiwenga, nor any investigation or official allegation made within the hospital where the Vice President was being treated, analysts are questioning the credibility of these claims.

The allegations were initially raised by a bodyguard who claimed that Marry attempted to pull the cables sustaining Vice President Constantino Chiwenga. Marry Chiwenga has responded by challenging her accusers, demanding evidence and even providing pictures to challenge the credibility of the allegations. She raises a valid point: if these allegations were true, why was no police case initiated, and why wasn’t there any investigation or official accusation made within the hospital itself?

One must consider the broader context surrounding Marry Chiwenga’s case. She herself has been a victim of previous attacks, suffering injuries and illness following a bombing incident in June 2018 that targeted her and her husband. It is worth noting that she was the first to experience these unfortunate events. Marry Chiwenga has also stated that there were four individuals, allegedly sent by the government, who spread falsehoods and accused her of intending harm to her husband while he was receiving treatment in China. These factors cast doubt on the veracity of the allegations against her.

Furthermore, it is essential to question the logic behind the alleged attempted murder. If Marry Chiwenga truly intended to harm her husband, why didn’t she act immediately? The absence of any substantiated evidence or a police investigation at the time raises doubts about the authenticity of the allegations. This perspective is humorously echoed by Tambudzai Tambudzai, who sarcastically asks, “So why didn’t Marry Chiwenga just kill the VP immediately if it was possible?”

In light of the absence of concrete evidence and the lack of official action taken against Marry Chiwenga, it is crucial to exercise caution in accepting these allegations as fact. Accusing someone of such a grave crime without proper investigation or evidence can lead to damaging consequences for the individual involved. It is essential to consider all available information and allow for a fair and thorough examination of the allegations before reaching any conclusions.

As the story surrounding Marry Chiwenga unfolds, it becomes increasingly evident that there are significant doubts regarding the veracity of the attempted murder allegations made against her. Without concrete evidence or an official investigation, it is premature to assume her guilt. It is imperative to separate sensational claims from substantiated facts and allow due process to take its course before passing judgment.

Kasukuwere Scoffs High Court Challenge Against His Candidature

By A Correspondent| Exiled former Zanu PF Commissar Savior Kasukuwere has scoffed at a High Court application filed by one Lovedale Mangwana challenging his candidature, saying his former party is now scared of him and engaging all sorts of tactics to stop his campaign.

Yesterday, Mangwana filed High Court papers challenging the nomination of Kasukuwere on the grounds that he has been out of Zimbabwe for over 18 months.

But Kasukuwere and his sympathisers have interpreted the application as part of Zanu PF attempts to stop him from contesting the August 23 polls.

“They are now running to the High Court! Zvarema and we are marching on. No retreat no surrender! Pound for Pound,” said Kasukuwere on Twitter.

Kasukuwere has succesfully filed his nomination papers to contest in the Presidential elections together with 10 other candidates including President Emmerson Mnangagwa, Nelson Chamisa, Lovemore Madhuku, Douglas Mwonzora, Joseph Makamba Busha, Trust Chikohora and others.

CCC Fights ‘FAZ’ And CIO Imposed Candidates

The opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) has given candidates who were ‘fraudulently’ registered under the party for national assembly and local authority elections 24 hours to withdraw their candidature or face being dragged to court.

The party claims that the ‘fraudulent candidates’ were allegedly smuggled in by the controversial Forever Associates of Zimbabwe (FAZ), a Zanu PF-affiliate linked to the Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) to give an impression of double candidates after attempts to infiltrate its structures failed.

The Nomination Courts for the August 23 elections sat last week to register aspirants, with Zimbabwe Electoral Commission lists afterwards reflecting that the CCC had fielded double and in some cases triple nominations in some areas.

In a statement on Monday, CCC spokesperson Fadzai Mahere said they have filed complaints to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) and ZEC but have not received a response so far.

“Pursuant to our press briefing on 22 June 2023, we filed objections against double candidates in terms of the procedure provided for under the Electoral Act. We have received no response from ZEC,” Mahere said.

EU To Observe Zim Elections Again

The European Union (EU) has accepted Zimbabwe’s invite to observe the country’s elections due August 23 this year.

EU ambassador to Zimbabwe Jobst von Kirchmann said the invitation to observe polls ‘demonstrates the trust, cooperation and partnership’ between the government and the grouping.

“The EU warmly welcomes the invitation from the Government of Zimbabwe to observe the harmonised elections of 2023 in Zimbabwe.

“This invitation clearly demonstrates the trust, cooperation, and partnership between Zimbabwe and the EU,” he said in a tweet.

In the 2018 elections, the EU deployed about 88 observers, later reporting that “the political climate has improved, (…) but unequal opportunities (between candidates), voter intimidation and lack of confidence in the electoral process have undermined the pre-electoral environment”.

Last week, the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) invited applications for accreditation from persons and organisations wishing to observe the country’s high stakes poll.

Accreditation fees for local observers this year has been pegged at US$10 per individual while those from the African continent shall pay US$100 each.

Observer fees for those manning foreign embassies in Zimbabwe have been pegged at US$300 while those from any country outside Africa will each pay US$400.

The fees for local media practitioners accredited with the Zimbabwe Media Commission and working for foreign media houses is US$100 as is the case with those from the African continent while local media practitioners accredited with the ZMC pay US$10.

However, observers from the African Union, the Southern African Development Community, Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa, the SADC Parliamentary Forum, the Electoral Commissions Forum of SADC, electoral bodies in African countries and embassies from African countries are exempt from paying any fees.

Legal think- tank Veritas criticised the fees for allegedly discouraging local and international organisations from seeking observer accreditation.

“Proper election observation enhances the fairness, transparency and credibility of elections and also encourages all parties contesting elections to accept the results.

“The African Charter on Democracy, Elections and Governance and the SADC Principles and Guidelines on Elections both emphasize the importance of independent observers in ensuring that elections are transparent, credible and democratic. Zimbabwe is a party to both those instruments,” it said.

Zanu PF Is At Its Worst, Says Mliswa

By A Correspondent| Independent Norton legislator Temba Mliswa has said Zanu PF is going into the 23 August 2023 elections in bad shape and would lose to a viable opposition.

Posting on Twitter, Mliswa said Zanu PF is at its worst, a situation that gives the opposition a chance to take it to the cleaners.

“The impeding elections have three players who are ED, Chamisa and a large body of the rest of the field combined. As I have said before ZANU-PF is in a bad state, the worst it has been for some time and a viable opposition could have taken it to the cleaners.

“It stems from a variety of factors which include but are not limited to a poor economy, a blundering and meddling FAZ plus internecine divisions. However the main opposition, CCC has itself become a blundering party, self-tripping and prone to suicidal tendencies,” said Mliswa.

Zimbabwe is set to hold its next harmonised elections on 23 August 2023.

11 candidates have thrown their hat in the ring including Nelson Chamisa of CCC, Douglas Mwonzora of MDC, Lovemore Madhuku of NCA, Joseph Makamba Busha of FreeZim Congress and Emmerson Mnangagwa of Zanu PF among others.

Do Marry Chiwenga Attempted Murder Charges Make Sense?
