Mai TT Suffers Another Blow

By- Comedian and socialite MAI TT Murata has claimed she was blocked from contacting Tinashe Maphosa after demanding a divorce.
She also accused Tinashe of sleeping with one of her close friends.
Following her demands, Tinashe, through his legal team, is said to have served her with a warning to take down all negative posts, from her social media platforms, which tarnish his image.
Mai TT was also blocked from contacting Tinashe and ordered to stop live videos talking about him.
She was also warned not to mention his name for 24 hours.
Tinashe is also claiming an undisclosed amount of money.
Mai TT said she was not moved by all the warnings since she wants her money and divorce, and will continue to display her bitterness.
In an interview yesterday, after her Facebook Live talking about her present challenges with Tinashe, she said:
“After my wedding, I was booked to be an MC at a wedding in Victoria Falls in April.
“I left home only to come and find out that Tinashe had left. I then discovered that my money was missing. He admitted to taking US$30 000 from my house.
“That US$30 000 was meant for a cooperative and he has not yet paid back my money.”
She added: “Tinashe is now sending summons, with warnings and threats. He thinks that will stop me from asking for my money.
“Even blocking me will not stop me from asking for my money back.
“All I am asking of him is to sign divorce papers and give me back my money, then I stay out of his life.” H Metro

By- Police in Harare have blocked a Robert Gabriel Mugabe Memorial gig set for Zimbabwe Grounds tomorrow.

Former Zanu PF youth leader Jim Kunaka had organised the gala under the Robert Gabriel Mugabe Legacy Movement he fronts.

Kunaka wrote a letter to the police on 12 September notifying them to hold the gala in terms of the Maintenance of Peace and Order Act [Chapter 11:23].
In response to Kunaka, Officer Commanding Police Harare South District, Chief Superintendent, M Majojo, said the gala has not been approved. He wrote:

Mwonzora Fires Bulawayo Mayor

By- The leader of the MDC-T, Douglas Mwonzora, on Thursday recalled Bulawayo Ward Three councillor, Tinashe Kambarami, who was a former City of Bulawayo Deputy Mayor.

Kambarami recently won a High Court battle reinstating him as a councillor and argued that the court order also applied to his reinstatement as the city’s Deputy Mayor.

This set him on a collision course with the incumbent, Ward One councillor Mlandu Ncube who refused to vacate the post.

On Thursday, the Minister of Local Government and Public Works, July Moyo wrote to the city’s Town Clerk, Christopher Dube informing the local authority of Kambarami’s recall. Part of the letter reads:

I wish to inform you that I am in receipt of a letter from the Movement Democratic Change stating that Councillor Tinashe Kambarami of ward three has ceased to be a member of the Party.

In terms of Section 278(1) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe as read with Section 129(1)(k), his ward is now vacant. Please advise Zimbabwe Electoral Commission accordingly.

The MDC-T has recalled dozens of councillors since the March 2020 Supreme Court ruling which nullified Nelson Chamisa’s appointment as MDC-T deputy president by the late Morgan Tsvangirai in 2016. | The Sunday News

BREAKING: Mai Titi Exposed By Own Evidence

By Showbiz Reporter | The comedian, Mai Titi who in the last few days has been on a tirade to accuse her ex husband of several moral failures, was on Friday left with an egg on face as her own evidence of conversations with between Tinashe Maphosa and a said, Tom Jones showed a pile of inconsistencies.

One major boob was on a Worldremit transaction which has Tinashe Maphosa’s surname mispelt as Maposa., making it highly improbable for authenticity.
The comedian was still to comment over the embarassing gaffe.

Lifestyle editor, Rose Mudiwa wrote of the development, saying: “Mai TT and Tom Jones have been exposed. Lol. The fake text message from Mukuru spelt Maphosa incorrectly. Then the fake WhatsApp chat messages between Tinashe and Tom Jones show Tinashe’s chats being in green instead of the other way around.

Mai TT and Tom Jones warris this? Instead of settling your bills you are paying Tom Jones to connive with you. ????”

Billiat Fails To Justify Earnings

Former Golden Arrows striker Norman Smith has slammed Khama Billiat for not delivering enough on the pitch and failing to justify his high earnings.

Billiat is among the top earners at Kaizer Chiefs since signing with the club in 2018.

The Zimbabwean is yet to score this season and his only goal involvement is an assist registered on match day two against Maritzburg United.

The 32-year-old now faces some time out due to injury.

Billiat’s attacking partner Keagan Dolly has also struggled to reach the top form after scoring one goal this term.

“Football is a business and it is structured in a way that top performers should be earning better and are those two players’ performances living up to their earnings? I say no,” Smith told KickOff.

“What you get must be determined by your performance. If you don’t deliver and yet you are going home with that big salary, it becomes a problem and even you as the earner must feel the guilt that so much is being invested in you, but you are not delivering.

“It is the same with Keagan and Khama. Imagine how it feels for a person earning peanuts yet delivering every week. It becomes a bitter pill to swallow for that player.

“To be fair up until this point, they haven’t delivered on their worth this season when measured against what they are earning at the club and they must be told so.”

Billiat and Dolly formed a feared combination during their days at Mamelodi Sundowns together with Leonardo Castro, although the trio failed to recreate that partnership last season at Chiefs.

Smith added: “I think they are trending based on what happened on previous occasions with them at another club.

“I hope that they get their form back sooner than later because so much is always expected from them based on their earnings.”- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

We Are Out Of Title Race: Ndiraya

Dynamos coach Tonderai Ndiraya has conceded that his charges have lost control in the Castle Lager Premiership title race and will be looking for consolation in the Chibuku Super Cup.

The Glamour Boys fell nine points behind league leaders FC Platinum with seven games to play.

The two teams will meet in the quarterfinal of the knockout tournament on Sunday and Ndiraya hopes to find a way that will see his side progressing to the next round.

“We are no longer in control of the league race,” Ndiraya said in his pre-match presser on Thursday.” FC Platinum are in control; they have it in their hands.

“But in this match, we are all starting at the same level. So we also have some bit of control in this match and we are going to put everything into it to make sure that we qualify to the semi-finals.”

Dynamos are yet to win the tournament since its reintroduction in 2014.

The Harare giants failed to pass the semifinal stage last year, losing to their Sunday’s opponents, who went on to win the cup.

“Dynamos have not won this tournament since its inception,” Ndiraya added. “So that’s what we are getting into all these matches with, in our minds, and hopefully we can push through.

“We have two difficult hurdles ahead of us before we reach the final. So we want to push to get into the final and once we get there the chances of winning the cup are so high.”

The match will be played at the National Sports Stadium in Harare. The kick-off team is at 3 pm CAT.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

“Create Sector Specific Content”: POTRAZ Urges Online Content Creators

By A Correspondent- Local content creators have been urged to create sector specific content and widen their reach as a way of monetising their work.

This was said by the Director General of POTRAZ Dr Kalisto Machengete at a 2 day engagement workshop currently underway in Kadoma.

The workshop, is being attended by over 50 content creators affiliated under their umbrella body, the Zimbabwe Online Content Creators (ZOCC).

Said Dr Machengete:

“Content creation brings about new opportunities for local content  hosting and  creating  local internet  traffic.

We ought to replace google  servers with local servers as we move towards the hosting of local content locally.

We have so much good content created by Zimbabweans with millions  of hits,  but all this content is  hosted internationally, yet there is provision to do so locally.

On another note, there is need to create sector specific local content for the different sectors such as education, health, tourism, mining.
Because content creators may not be experts in these fields, how are they going to generate the relevant content? These are some of the questions we should be thinking of.”

About Basic Hygiene Tips

Half of health care facilities worldwide lack basic hygiene services with water and soap or alcohol-based hand rub where patients receive care and at toilets in these facilities, according to the latest Joint Monitoring Programme (JMP) report by WHO and UNICEF.

Around 3.85 billion people use these facilities, putting them at greater risk of infection, including 688 million people who receive care at facilities with no hygiene services at all.

“Hygiene facilities and practices in health care settings are non-negotiable.

Their improvement is essential to pandemic recovery, prevention and preparedness. Hygiene in health care facilities cannot be secured without increasing investments in basic measures, which include safe water, clean toilets, and safely managed health care waste,” said Dr Maria Neira, WHO Director, Department of Environment, Climate Change and Health.

“I encourage Member States to step up their efforts to implement their 2019 World Health Assembly commitment to strengthen water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) services in health care facilities, and to monitor these efforts.”

The latest report, “Progress on WASH in health care facilities 2000–2021: special focus on WASH and infection prevention and control”, has for the first time established this global baseline on hygiene services – which assessed access at points of care as well as toilets – as more countries than ever report on critical elements of WASH services in their hospitals and other health centres. For hygiene, data are now available for 40 countries, representing 35% of the world’s population, up from 21 countries in 2020 and 14 in 2019.

The newly established global estimate reveals a clearer and more alarming picture of the state of hygiene in health care facilities. Though 68% of health care facilities had hygiene facilities at points of care, and 65% had handwashing facilities with water and soap at toilets, only 51% had both and therefore met the criteria for basic hygiene services. Furthermore, 1 in 11 (9%) of health care facilities globally have neither.

“If health care providers don’t have access to a hygiene service, patients don’t have a health care facility,” said Kelly Ann Naylor, UNICEF Director of WASH and Climate, Environment, Energy, and Disaster Risk Reduction (CEED).

“Hospitals and clinics without safe water and basic hygiene and sanitation services are a potential death trap for pregnant mothers, newborns, and children. Every year, around 670 000 newborns lose their lives to sepsis. This is a travesty – even more so as their deaths are preventable.”

The report notes that contaminated hands and environments play a significant role in pathogen transmission in health care facilities and the spread of antimicrobial resistance.

Interventions to increase access to handwashing with water and soap and environmental cleaning form the cornerstone of infection prevention and control programmes and are crucial to providing quality care, particularly for safe childbirth.
Coverage of WASH facilities is still uneven across different regions and income groupings:

Facilities in sub-Saharan Africa are lagging on hygiene services. While three-quarters (73%) of health care facilities in the region overall have alcohol-based hand rub or water and soap at points of care, only one-third (37%) have handwashing facilities with water and soap at toilets.

The vast majority (87%) of hospitals have hand hygiene facilities at points of care, compared to 68% of other healthcare facilities.
In the Least Developed Countries, only 53% of health care facilities have access on-premises to a protected water source.

To compare, the global figure is 78% with hospitals (88%) doing better than smaller health care facilities (77%), and the figure for eastern and south-eastern Asia is 90%. Globally, around 3% of health care facilities in urban areas and 11% in rural areas had no water service.

Of the countries with available data, 1 in 10 health care facilities globally had no sanitation service.

The proportion of health care facilities with no sanitation services ranged from 3% in Latin America and the Caribbean and in eastern and south-eastern Asia to 22% in sub-Saharan Africa. In the Least Developed Countries, just 1 in 5 (21%) had basic sanitation services in health care facilities.
The data further reveals that many health care facilities lack basic environmental cleaning and safe segregation and disposal of health care waste.
The report is being launched at World Water Week taking place in Stockholm, Sweden.

The annual conference, which runs from 23 August to 1 September, explores new ways to tackle humanity’s greatest challenges: from food security and health to agriculture, technology, biodiversity and climate.

Mnangagwa Too Old To Lead Nation- Musengezi

Tinashe Sambiri|Outspoken Zanu PF activist, Sybeth Musengezi, has said Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa is too old to lead the nation.

Mr Mnangagwa turned 80 yesterday.

Musengezi, known for openly challenging Mr Mnangagwa’s legitimacy, argues the Zanu PF leader is a liability to the nation.

“Mnangagwa turned 80 y/day. Some Cdes are saying since he wants 5 more years as ‘president’ let’s give him.

This means he’ll finish his 2nd unproductive term when he is 86. For me it’s a big NO
Considering our economy, it’s very foolish to let someone this old determine our future,” Musengezi wrote on Twitter.

He further accused Mr Mnangagwa of plotting to kill him.

Justice Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi In Contempt Of Court

Justice minister Ziyambi Ziyambi and Attorney-General Prince Machaya face arrest for contempt of court after they defied a ruling ordering them to craft a code of conduct for the country’s Vice-President and ministers.

In June, High Court judge Justice David Mangota ordered government to craft a law regarding office conduct for the VPs and ministers within 45 days after former law student Nyasha Chiramba approached the court in April 2021 seeking the enactment of the law.

Mangota ruled that the law was long overdue since the Constitution was promulgated nine years ago.

In his court application filed through the Zimbabwe Human Rights Forum on Wednesday, Chiramba said: “As more fully appears on that court order, the respondents were ordered to submit to the Cabinet for consideration the Bill envisaged by section 106(3) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe within 45 days from the date of that order.

“There was a wilful disregard of this order. The order was granted on 8 June 2022 and the respondents failed or neglected to act on that order until 25 days after the issuance of that order on 15 July 2022 when they requested a full judgment of that order.”

Chiramba cited Ziyambi and Machaya as respondents.

“In computing the timeframe to comply with that order, the respondents were supposed to submit to Cabinet this Bill by 17 August 2022. That order is still extant, and the respondents failed or neglected to comply with that order,” he added.

Chiramba said Ziyambi and Machaya’s conduct was contemptuous.

“In a clear case of attempting to evade compliance with this court order, the respondents approached the Supreme Court under case SC 369/22 seeking condonation for non-compliance and an extension of time to file a notice of appeal in terms of the Supreme Court rules. That application was then struck off the roll.

“The respondents have not appealed against that judgment, and they have not also approached this court seeking extension of time to comply with that order. Their conduct is contemptuous; it goes against the founding principles of constitutional supremacy, rule of law and good governance. That law should sanction that parlous behaviour,” he added.

Mwonzora Wields Axe Again, Recalls Byo Deputy Mayor Kambarami

Douglas Mwonzora-led Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) has recalled Bulawayo City Council Ward 3 Councillor and former deputy mayor, Tinashe Kambarami.

Local Government Minister, July Moyo has since written to Town Clerk Christopher Dube notifying him of a vacancy following Kambarami’s recall.

Moyo wrote: “l wish to notifiy you that l am in receipt of a letter from Movement for Democratic Change stating that Cllr Tinashe Kambarami of Ward 3 has ceased to be a member of the party.

“In terms of section 278 (l) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe as read with section 129 (l)(k) his ward is now vacant. Please advise Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) accordingly.”

The town clerk reportedly sent the dismissal letter to Kambarami through social media platform, WhatsApp.

Kambarami has hogged the limelight for months on end following his previous ouster and subsequent bounce-back in a unending drama allegedly fuelled by tribalism at Town House.

Mayor Solomon Mguni and councillor Mlandu Ncube reportedly roped in MDC-T to fire Kambarami, a development that would end months of efforts to reclaim the city’s deputy mayorship following his recent reinstatement by the Bulawayo High Court.

High Court Judge, Justice Martin Makonese last month reinstated Kambarami as Bulawayo deputy mayor, as well as Ward 3 councillor.

In 2019, Justice Thompson Mabhikwa declared the election of Kambarami as councillor null and void after 1892 Mthwakazi Restoration Movement Trust and Nomalanga Dabengwa approached the High Court challenging his election.

Kambarami, however, appealed the ruling at the Supreme Court, which overturned Justice Mabhikwa’s ruling.

Following the apex court ruling, Kambarami attempted to attend a full council meeting in council chambers, but was swiftly blocked by Mguni and the town clerk, who claimed council had not been served with the Supreme Court judgment.

At that time, Mguni also claimed that Kambarami was recalled from council by the Douglas Mwonzora led MDC.

Kambarami then approached the High Court leading to Justice Makonese’s judgment.

Following Kambarami’s reinstatement by the High Court, Mguni has been blocking his comeback.

Last week, Ncube also approached the courts seeking to block the ex-deputy mayor’s reinstatement.

FULL TEXT- UZA Statement On International Day Of Democracy

Elisabeth Valerio

15 September 2022

United Zimbabwe Alliance (UZA) joins Zimbabwe and the rest of the World in commemorating International Day of Democracy.

Established through a resolution passed by the UN General Assembly in 2007 encouraging governments to strengthen and implement policies and measures that consolidate democracy, the day is celebrated annually on 15 September.

International Day of Democracy serves as an opportunity for us to reflect and take stock of our journey in fulfilling the basic tenets of democracy.

The day, also gives Zimbabwean office bearers and citizens the platform to reflect and renew their commitment to build equal, accountable, stronger and healthier societies where everyone is protected, respected and empowered to realise their maximum potential for development.

Our party values International Day of Democracy and we celebrate the end of colonial rule in 1980 which returned the power and control into the hands of those elected by the people.

The recognition that women are equal players politically is also appreciated and out party values the role of women as voters and political office bearers.

As we look back on this important day our party believes that while progress has been made to ensure adherence to a democratic system of rule, more needs to be done to ensure that citizens realise the full benefits of a democratic state.

Equally important is the role of youths where we believe that Zimbabwe’s young people will have the deciding vote in the 2023 general elections.

Our youths must realise that they are the drivers of change in our nation. They must know that change will come but this will only possible if they participate fully as voters and candidates.

Section 67 of our Constitution sets out political rights for every citizens stating that every Zimbabwean has the right to make political choices freely.

It also guarantees every Zimbabwean equal rights to fully participate in elections as candidates.

On this International Day of Democracy, UZA calls on leaders in governments or outside to support and invest in open societies where different opinion is embraced and where, freedom of expression is guaranteed.

Our party supports a politically plural Zimbabwe espousing constructive engagement of all political parties in good governance.

This is why as UZA, we don’t spend time denigrating other political parties.

We are a different Party with a clear mandate to unite Zimbabweans and build our country.

Our country has been ruined by politics of division for the past two decades.

On this day, we are also calling on the existing political parties to desist from creating divisions in our nation and ensure inclusive democracy where every citizen’s political rights are protected and guaranteed.

UZA comes at a time where Zimbabwe is in dire need of a new leadership with a unitary approach to politics.

We do not tolerate any form of discrimination.

In a Democracy, state institutions and the other arms of government will be independent espousing the basic tenets of human rights.

When voted into office, we are going to safeguard the independence of the judiciary and the separation of powers to ensure that all citizens are equal before the laws of country.

Democracy has to be exercised to every citizen in our country as a way of propelling the developmental agenda.

‘Mai Sorobhi Died A Pauper Despite Yesteryear Fame’

Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Deputy Minister Honourable Kindness Paradza said it was disturbing that with all the fame and talent veteran actress Mai Sorobhi died a pauper.

This came after the late Mai Sorobhi’s family sent an SOS as they struggled to clear the $37 000 hospital bill, which was later cleared following the intervention of Nyaradzo Funeral Services and government.

Paradza who was speaking in Kadoma at Content Creators Workshop Thursday held by Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ) said it was about time artists earn from their content.

“Most artists are failing to monetize their content and it was saddening to note that people were asked to donate cash at Mai Sorobhi funeral, yet she was known and adored by many,” Paradza said.

While Paradza’s remarks laid bare how impoverished Zimbabwean artists are  critics argued that ZBCTV had for long time taken advantage of its monopoly by not paying creatives well or for the content.

Born Rhoda Mtembe, Mai Sorobhi died Monday aged 79. She was buried at Warren Hills Cemetery.

The veteran actress rose to fame in ZBCTV comedy called Paraffin where she played Mai Sorobhi.

So popular was the 1990s drama series that many stayed glued to the small screens during prime time.

Its Very Foolish To Let Mnangagwa Determine Our Future: Musengezi

By A Correspondent| Zanu PF activist Sybeth Musengezi has rejected the idea of giving President Emmerson Mnangagwa a second term in office saying the state of the economy does not permit such a move.

Posting on Twitter, Musengezi who last year took Zanu PF to court challenging the elevation of Mnangagwa to the helm of party, said Zimbabweans should not entrust their future in the hands of someone old determine their future.

Chiredzi Nurse Caught Pants Down With Married Lover

In a rather strange incident, a randy male nurse at Mkwasine Clinic in Chiredzi District, Masvingo province was caught red-handed having s–ex with his married lover in one of the toilets at the health institution.

It is reported that the nurse, Nicholas Nyamupanedengu, called his married lover (name also supplied) who had visited a nearby school to collect her identification document when they decided to quench their sexual appetite in the toilet.

According to a source who requested strict anonymity, workers and patients were left shocked when the pair was busted grunting and groaning in the loo.

“It was an absolutely disgusting incident which left workers and patients who had visited the health institution utterly shocked. The pair was caught by a nurse aide who wanted to use the toilet.

“When she opened the toilet door she was horrified when she saw the pair busy in action and in the process the man was also groaning and grunting away. The outraged nurse aide later alerted the sister-in-charge,” said the source.

The source said after being busted while getting down and dirty in the toilet, the married woman bolted out half-naked and disappeared from the scene.

Contacted for comment, the seemingly shaky nurse in question said there were just rumours being spread by his enemies who were after tarnishing his image.

“I don’t know anything of that nature. It’s not true. I was also surprised when a friend of mine approached me with the same accusations saying people were talking about it. I suspect that the rumours are being spread by those who are after tarnishing my image,” he said.

He later passionately begged this reporter not to publish the story saying it was going to destroy his marriage and at the same time tarnish his image at work.

“Please don’t publish the story because it will wreck my marriage and as I speak things are not well in my marriage because of these accusations peddled against me. If published it will also affect my image at work. I am tired of being phoned by friends and relatives who want to know if it’s true. Please don’t publish it,” he repeatedly begged.
Quizzed on why people were busy phoning and asking him about the issue if there were just mere rumours, he growled before he threatened legal action saying:
“I will sue you if you publish the story. Whoever writes the story I will sue him or her,” he threatened.

When contacted for comment, sister-in-charge at Mkwasine Clinic Annah Mandizvo who initially asked the reporter where he got the story from as soon as the issue was raised later backtracked saying it was yet to reach her attention.

“Who told you this story? As for me it has not yet reached my attention. It’s news to me and I’m yet to get the details of what really transpired,” she said.

Overseer’s Love Messages To Married Woman Leaks

By A Correspondent- A Greater Light Covenant Ministries overseer left the Harare Civil Court in shame when he lost his bid for a peace order.

He is being accused of sending love messages to a church member.

The matter came to light when overseer, Jonathan Nhundu, and Apostle Herbert Paul, both applied for peace orders against two church members, Tongesai Kanyongo and Margaret Muroto.

The court heard that Tongesai and Margaret were allegedly disturbing their peace. Magistrate Rutendo Machingura granted Apostle Herbert’s peace order against Margaret and Tongesai.

They must be stopped from coming to our church.

“For the past three weeks, Tongesai and Margaret have been disturbing the peace of the church,” said Apostle Herbert.

The two had a misunderstanding with the church’s overseer, Jonathan Nhundu, and they couldn’t settle the matter amicably because peace is not an option for these two.

They have been coming to my church demanding everyone’s attention and causing confusion,” Apostle Herbert said.

However, overseer Jonathan failed to convince magistrate Machingura, and his application was dismissed.

During the hearing, Tongesai and Margaret denied causing confusion in the church.

“Sometime last week, I went there and was welcomed by his wife who said I could no longer be the secretary and I was shocked,” Margaret said.

Tongesai said: “I saw love messages in my wife’s phone with the overseer asking my wife out, but she refused.

The apostle admitted to me that Jonathan was the one paying his rentals so he ordered me to stop talking about the issue.

Mnangagwa Hit-Man Goes For Chamisa

By-President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s former aide Owen Mudha Ncube has targeted the opposition CCC leader Nelson Chamisa.

The former CIO minister said Chamisa and his party were enemies of the state.

Mudha told Zanu PF supporters at a Gweru inter-district meeting that party members should block Chamisa.
He said:
Our President (Emmerson Mnangagwa) has won the 2023 presidential election. Only Zanu PF must rule this country, not the opposition because liberation fighters sacrificed for this country.
… The enemy is not in our party. The enemy is the CCC, led by Nelson Chamisa.
CCC deputy spokesperson Gift Siziba said that it clearly shows that Zanu PF is only focused on power retention and not addressing the plight of citizens. Said Siziba:
For the former minister Mudha to say, this shows the level at which the country is in dire need of leadership.
The words are a clear sign that the centre is failing to hold. It is a clear sign that Zanu PF is focusing on power retention instead of addressing the welfare of our people.

Queen Elizabeth’s 1947 Speech After Traveling Zimbabwe, SA

Below is a speech by the late Queen Elizabeth II on her 21st Birthday, in 1947.

Published 21 April 1947
I declare before you all that my whole life whether it be long or short shall be devoted to your service and the service of our great imperial family to which we all belong.

Queen_Elizabeth_II_official_portrait_for_1959_tour_(retouched)_(cropped)_(3-to-4_aspect_ratio)

Her Majesty The Queen
On her twenty-first birthday, 21 April 1947, Princess Elizabeth was with her parents and younger sister on a tour of South Africa. In a speech broadcast on the radio from Cape Town, the Princess dedicated her life to the service of the Commonwealth.

On my twenty-first birthday I welcome the opportunity to speak to all the peoples of the British Commonwealth and Empire, wherever they live, whatever race they come from, and whatever language they speak.

Let me begin by saying ‘thank you’ to all the thousands of kind people who have sent me messages of good will. This is a happy day for me; but it is also one that brings serious thoughts, thoughts of life looming ahead with all its challenges and with all its opportunity.

At such a time it is a great help to know that there are multitudes of friends all round the world who are thinking of me and who wish me well. I am grateful and I am deeply moved.

As I speak to you today from Cape Town I am six thousand miles from the country where I was born. But I am certainly not six thousand miles from home. Everywhere I have travelled in these lovely lands of South Africa and Rhodesia my parents, my sister and I have been taken to the heart of their people and made to feel that we are just as much at home here as if we had lived among them all our lives.

That is the great privilege belonging to our place in the world-wide commonwealth – that there are homes ready to welcome us in every continent of the earth. Before I am much older I hope I shall come to know many of them.

Although there is none of my father’s subjects from the oldest to the youngest whom I do not wish to greet, I am thinking especially today of all the young men and women who were born about the same time as myself and have grown up like me in terrible and glorious years of the second world war.

Will you, the youth of the British family of nations, let me speak on my birthday as your representative? Now that we are coming to manhood and womanhood it is surely a great joy to us all to think that we shall be able to take some of the burden off the shoulders of our elders who have fought and worked and suffered to protect our childhood.

We must not be daunted by the anxieties and hardships that the war has left behind for every nation of our commonwealth. We know that these things are the price we cheerfully undertook to pay for the high honour of standing alone, seven years ago, in defence of the liberty of the world. Let us say with Rupert Brooke: “Now God be thanked who has matched us with this hour”.

I am sure that you will see our difficulties, in the light that I see them, as the great opportunity for you and me. Most of you have read in the history books the proud saying of William Pitt that England had saved herself by her exertions and would save Europe by her example. But in our time we may say that the British Empire has saved the world first, and has now to save itself after the battle is won.

I think that is an even finer thing than was done in the days of Pitt; and it is for us, who have grown up in these years of danger and glory, to see that it is accomplished in the long years of peace that we all hope stretch ahead.

If we all go forward together with an unwavering faith, a high courage, and a quiet heart, we shall be able to make of this ancient commonwealth, which we all love so dearly, an even grander thing – more free, more prosperous, more happy and a more powerful influence for good in the world – than it has been in the greatest days of our forefathers.

To accomplish that we must give nothing less than the whole of ourselves. There is a motto which has been borne by many of my ancestors – a noble motto, “I serve”. Those words were an inspiration to many bygone heirs to the Throne when they made their knightly dedication as they came to manhood. I cannot do quite as they did.

But through the inventions of science I can do what was not possible for any of them. I can make my solemn act of dedication with a whole Empire listening. I should like to make that dedication now. It is very simple.

I declare before you all that my whole life whether it be long or short shall be devoted to your service and the service of our great imperial family to which we all belong.

But I shall not have strength to carry out this resolution alone unless you join in it with me, as I now invite you to do: I know that your support will be unfailingly given. God help me to make good my vow, and God bless all of you who are willing to share in it.

Chaos At Beitbridge Border Post As Guards Block Zimbabweans

By- Some Zimbabweans going back home from South Africa said they were being blocked from crossing the Beitbridge border by border guards.

These people said the guards demanded valid documents from Zimbabweans to return home.

An online portal, GroundUp, reports that these people would eventually cross the border through unofficial routes.

An informal trader who spoke to GroundUp said she had decided to return home due to xenophobia in South Africa. She said:

I cannot stand the current wave of vigilantism in South Africa. The only possible option is to go back home to Zimbabwe.

The wave [of xenophobia] seems to be spreading to all provinces. It’s better I leave before this life-threatening situation is upon us.

She said she used to travel home almost every two weeks to visit her two children.

But since 2011, as the situation in Zimbabwe continued to deteriorate, she decided to stay in South Africa and run her informal business.

She said wants to return home but cannot do so under the new border rules. She said:

We are ordered to go back to South Africa, but if we go back, we risk being arrested. We are really stuck.

South Africa recently introduced 200 armed Border Management Authority (BMA) guards in Musina, Limpopo.

The guards are deployed at five “identified vulnerable parts” of the border and work with members of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF).

Meanwhile, 178 000 Zimbabwean Exemption Permit (ZEP) holders will be deemed illegal migrants in South Africa if they fail to regularise their stay in the country before the expiry of the six-month extension on 30 June 2023.

The ZEP permit was to expire at the end of December 2022 before it was extended by another six months but many families are still opting to voluntarily return to Zimbabwe.

Mwonzora Praises Zanu PF

By-MDC-T leader Douglas Mwonzora has heaped praises on Zanu PF, saying that the opposition should kneel to the ruling party for electoral reforms

Mwonzora, who was in Bulawayo Wednesday, said political and electoral reforms in the country would only come through dialoguing with Zanu PF.

Addressing journalists at the Bulawayo Media Centre , Mwonzora said:

Our position as a party is that we cannot avoid dialogue in order to achieve key reforms.

The reality we have to live with is that ZANU PF enjoys a supermajority in Parliament, and they have been the majority since 2013.

If we are to go via dialogue, it means that we agree and what we would have agreed will then be processed through Parliament.

If we are to amend the Electoral Act, for example, we need to agree and cooperate with legislators from across the political spectrum.

Mwonzora said in the history of Zimbabwe, key political reforms have come through dialogue and he cited the Lancaster House agreement of 1979 which brought about the majority rule in the country and the 1987 Unity Accord which brought an end to Gukurahundi. He said:

This is what happened throughout the history of the country. In 1979, the issue of majority rule was a key political reform, and it came via dialogue.

The disturbances in Matabeleland after independence were stopped via dialogue which led to the signing of the Unity Accord between the warring parties.

People can argue about the content of the Unity Accord itself and whether one party won more than the other, but that is beside the point at this point and time.

The fact of the matter is that the Accord came via dialogue.

Mwonzora also cited the talks between ZANU PF and the two MDC formations facilitated by SADC in 2008 which culminated in the signing of the Global Political Agreement (GPA) and the formation of the Government of Unity (GNU) in 2009. | New Ziana

Top Cop Slapped With U.S Sanctions

By- The United States government has slapped the Zimbabwe Republic Police’s Deputy Commissioner for Administration, Stephen Mutamba, with sanctions.

The U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) said Mutamba is undermining Zimbabwe’s democratic processes and institutions.

It said:

Over the past two years, Mutamba has taken actions that threaten and undermine legitimate political parties that oppose the policies of the ruling Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front (ZANU-PF) party.

In 2020, Mutamba supported Zimbabwe security services’ use of pressure and intimidation on prominent opposition figures. Also in 2020, Mutamba supported the uneven enforcement of a COVID-related curfew, encouraging security forces to limit opposition activities and did not allow for foreign national officials located in Zimbabwe to meet with Zimbabwean opposition parties or civil society groups.

In 2021, Mutamba advocated that vote tallies not be displayed outside polling locations and that international observers should not be allowed to monitor the 2023 elections.

The implications of the designation

All Mutamba’s property and interests in property located in the United States have been blocked. OFAC said:

As a result of today’s designation, all property and interests in property of these persons located in the United States or in the possession or control of U.S. persons are blocked and must be reported to OFAC.

In addition, any entities that are owned, directly or indirectly, 50 per cent or more in the aggregate by one or more of such persons are also blocked.

All transactions by U.S. persons or within (or transiting) the United States that involve any property or interests in property of blocked or designated persons are prohibited, unless authorized by a general or specific license issued by OFAC, or otherwise exempt.

These prohibitions include the making of any contribution or provision of funds, goods, or services by, to, or for the benefit of any blocked person and the receipt of any contribution or provision of funds, goods, or services from any such person.

Chivayo Worships Mnangagwa

By Wicknell Chivayo

Each year, the 15TH OF SEPTEMBER marks a day of profound celebration. It presents an indelible cause to the Nation and people of Zimbabwe to celebrate one of its illustrious and finest Statesman that this country has ever had since its dark years of the liberation struggle. In this particular year, 2022, the day remarkably symbolises the 80th birthday of an eminent liberation war stalwart, a decorated patriot and a man of distinguished character and wisdom His Excellency Cde. Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa!

YOUR EXCELLENCY, on this esteemed occasion of your 80th birthday, we are humbled and well pleased as the young blood of this great Nation of Zimbabwe, to be led by your wise counsel. The entrenched history of our liberation struggle can never be complete without the mention of your name and the pivotal role you played alongside other gallant sons of the soil. The unfettered freedom we enjoy today came at the expense of your selfless sacrifice of heeding the patriotic call to free your country from the yesteryear bondage of our erstwhile colonial masters at a very tender age.

YOUR EXCELLENCY, you displayed unparalleled bravery and incomparable heroism by leading various tactical militia groups whose primary objective was to vanquish the colonist forces in the then Fort Victoria in 1964, an escapade which put your life in immense danger and which led to your incarceration for a decade. But even this did not deter your fortitude and hope to see an independent Zimbabwe where every citizen is afforded their full political and socio-economic rights.

YOUR EXCELLENCY as a REVOLUTIONARY, you have held dearly to the ideals of the liberation struggle – that of full political and economic emancipation – to this day, an accolade that we draw very rich inspiration from. Your principles on the economic empowerment of Zimbabweans has been evident by your enviable mantra, “Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo.”

YOUR EXCELLENCY, true to this mantra and under your able leadership, the Nation of Zimbabwe has witnessed an unprecedented economic growth during the tenure of the Second Republic. As the young generation, we have delightfully witnessed extraordinary infrastructure development being achieved within a remarkably short period of time, this bearing testimony to your dedication to fulfil your VISION to make Zimbabwe an upper-middle income economy by 2030.

YOUR EXCELLENCY, at no other time has Zimbabwe seen all its major roads being refurbished to world class standards such as under your administration. You have demonstrated a remarkable desire to reconstruct and develop Zimbabwe into a modern State comparable to 1st world economies in the 21st Century. With your guidance, various medical facilities have been upgraded and state-of-the-art equipment has been installed. Previously closed mines and industries have been reopened whilst new ones have been commissioned under your able leadership. All this unmatched economic development has created replete employment opportunities to our young compatriots who now revere being Zimbabwean and acquiesce to your leadership and the “People’s Party”, ZANU PF!

THE HEAD OF STATE AND GOVERNMENT, COMMANDER IN CHIEF OF THE ZIMBABWE DEFENCE FORCES, we rally behind you and commend your efforts in protecting the sacrosanct socio-political independence and territorial sovereignty of Zimbabwe. We honour you, particularly on this occasion of your birthday, for your unrelenting fight against neo-imperialist machinations by those who still view Zimbabwe as an extension of their political annexes. We fully embrace and support your calls in denouncing the illegal SANCTIONS imposed upon our beautiful Country by its yesteryear colonisers and aided by their cronies in the form of fructuous political opposition outfits. As the youths and vanguards of the strong-fought liberation struggle, we UNRESEVERDLY express our patronage and fully submit to your proficient leadership and that of our Party, ZANU PF!

YOUR EXCELLENCY, your stewardship over the Second Republic has given birth to economic stability which had been historically dented by the effects of the illegal SANCTIONS invited by hopeless opposition political gangs bent on self-aggrandisement at the expense of the masses. Against these odds, we have in recent weeks experienced a remarkable fall in the prices of goods and services, all in response to your wise interventions through the introduction of the Mosi-a-Tunya Gold coin and other measures meant to curb runaway inflation.

YOUR EXCELLENCY the NATION of Zimbabwe revels in your sharp astuteness and remarkable acumen. Suffice it to say the 2023 ELECTIONS are the easiest to predict in view of the resounding and well-defined efforts by the ZANU PF party and Government to meet all its promises in the 2018 election. We reiterate our unwavering support, as the YOUTHS of Zimbabwe, of your leadership and that of ZANU PF. We shall always stand ready to complement your sterling efforts to build this Nation, “brick upon brick, stone upon stone”.

Man Bashes Lover In Presence Of Parents

A taxi driver is on the run after he allegedly scaled a precast wall at his lover’s place and bashed her in the presence of her parents over why she ditched him.

Tinashe Dimairo (35) was dumped by his lover Amelia Dube (32) as it is said he was always in the habit of bashing her whenever they argued.

On Monday Tinashe was surprised to discover that his lover had deserted to her parents’ place in Cowdray Park suburb.

His close friend who requested not to be named said after that he drove to Cowdray Park and when he arrived at his lover’s place he parked his car outside.

“He knocked at the gate but Amelia refused to open the gate for him and it seems that angered him causing him to jump over the wall and heading to the living room where she was and grabbed her before bashing her in the presence of her parents,” said Tinashe’s friend.

He added: “Her father intervened and blocked him from further beating her up.”

Tinashe fled from the scene. The matter was reported to the police but the force is yet to arrest him.

Mai Titi In Trouble…

By-People and corporates which rendered services to comedian “Mai Titi” for her wedding are now haunting her for failing to settle her debts.

Mai Titi had a flamboyant wedding with her US-based boyfriend Tinashe Maphosa where she splashed up to US$100 000 back in April.

So extravagant was the wedding ceremony that Mai Titi invited South African songbird, Kelly Khumalo to serenade guests.

However, it later turned out that she did not fork the whole amount from her own pocket. According to the comedienne, she had borrowed some of the money in anticipation that her husband would reimburse as agreed.

Alas, after the wedding, Maphosa did not honour his word, which led to Mai Titi’s public meltdown where she was demanding money from him to pay back their creditors.

The public spat soon degenerated and the two had to call it quits just four months into their union.
In a move to signify a new chapter, Mai Titi last week burnt her expensive wedding gown which she initially said was worth US$4 000 before changing goal posts to a whopping US$6 000.
Many found her actions insensible considering the fact that there was once a Go Fund Me campaign to help pull her out of debt.
Now, just a few days after burning the dress, Mai Titi has revealed that people she owe money are on her case after they spotted her looking glamorous at the recently held Miss Zimbabwe Beauty Contest 2022.

Tinashe Sambiri|The Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) is ready to launch the PREPARE document that seeks to push for reforms before polls.

The PREPARE document spells out seven key reforms that have to be implemented before elections.

Addressing a media briefing in Harare on Wednesday, CCC deputy spokesperson Gift Ostallos Siziba described the attacks on President Nelson Chamisa’s motorcade in Chinhoyi and Gokwe as worrisome.

“The country is clearly burning, and the state has shown indifference towards resolving these problems. The plight of the ordinary citizens is not at the center of government’s programme of action to resolve the problems,”Siziba said.

Latest On Zim Power Crisis

THE Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) says the current increased load shedding is due to depressed generation capacity at its power stations.

According to generation statistics as of Wednesday, the Zimbabwe Power Company was producing 934 megawatts of electricity from its five power stations.

Kariba had the highest output at 751 Megawatts, followed by Hwange at 145 Megawatts while the small thermal stations were producing a combined 38 Megawatts.

In a notice, the ZETDC said the increased load curtailment which began on Monday, would last until Friday this week.

“This is due to depressed generation in the grid coupled by increased electricity demand as a result of increased economic activities,” it said.

The country requires over 2 000 Megawatts per day with regional imports, which require up to US$17 million per month, offsetting the deficit.

These have however not been consistent chiefly due to failure by the power utility to make regular payments to its regional suppliers.

In June this year, Cabinet approved the review of the electricity value chain from production to retail in order to manage the increased demand for power caused by increasing economic activity.

Increased economic activity, especially in the agricultural and mining sectors as well as the manufacturing sector, had spurred increased demand for electricity.

Additionally, ongoing massive housing and other infrastructural development projects were also leading to increased electricity consumption.

To resolve the electricity challenges, several power projects are at various stages of implementation including the expansion of the Hwange power plant by an additional two units, with the first one expected to come online in November this year.

The two units at Hwange will churn out a combined 600 Megawatts.

Zimbabwe is also working with Zambia on the 2 400 Megawatt Batoka Gorge hydro-electric power plant as the country eyes energy self-sufficiency. –New Ziana

Biden Slaps Top Mnangagwa Aide With Sanctions

By- The U.S. government has slapped the Zimbabwe Republic Police’s Deputy Commissioner for Administration, Stephen Mutamba, with sanctions.

The U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) said Mutamba had been punished for his role in undermining Zimbabwe’s democratic processes and institutions.

Why was Mutamba designated by OFAC?

SA Border Guards Block Zimbabweans

By- South African border guards at Beitbridge border post are blocking Zimbabweans without passports from going back home.

Mwonzora Hero-Worships Zanu PF

| New Ziana

Sikhala Lawyers Fume Over Bail Denial

By- CCC deputy chairman Job Sikhala and his counterpart Godfrey Sithole’s lawyers yesterday fumed over the continued refusal by the courts to grant the politician bail.

This comes after the magistrates’ court turned down yet another application for bail.

The two have been in detention since June charged with incitement to violence alongside 13 other CCC activists following violent skirmishes at the funeral of murdered opposition activist Moreblessing Ali in Nyatsime, Chitungwiza.

Their lawyers Jeremiah Bhamu and Beatrice Mtetwa, told magistrate Taurai Manuwere that it was clear their clients were never going to get a favourable ruling.
“The history of the matter against the accused persons revealed that no matter what application was made, the court dismissed it. It is pointless to continue knocking on the doors when it is clear the doors will never be opened to them and in the circumstances, we are left with no solution, but to simply follow the court because there is no justice that will be served through these courts,” Bhamu said.
“All avenues have been closed to achieve justice. We, therefore, return to court on the appointed date not because we will get justice, but simply because the law requires us to come to court. We are asking the State and court to restore a sense of justice and begin to apply justice regardless of the accused person’s offence.”
Bhamu said it was clear that the State and the court were colluding to deny their clients bail.
Mtetwa had applied for the court to order the State to provide a clear date for the purpose of furnishing them with the State papers for their clients. Manuwere then asked for an adjournment.
After adjournment, prosecutor Lancelot Mutsokoti asked for the postponement of the matter to September 28, but this was vehemently opposed by Bhamu.
Mutsokoti said September 28 was an interim date given that the matters were yet to be allocated to judicial officers since they were in an anti-corruption court.
Manuwere then postponed the matter to September 28.

Govt Says ED Is Not Attending Queen’s Funeral

By Farai D Hove | The state owned Sunday Mail paper has confirmed a ZimEye expose that Emmerson Mnangagwa is not at all attending British Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral.

At the time government spokesperson Nick Mangwana was dismissing a fake letter purporting that Mnangagwa has been blocked for attending, ZimEye grilled the Perm Sec on why he is failing to further explain that Mnangagwa’s itinerary does not include London.

The state owned paper has since confirmed the ZimEye expose’ revealing that Mnangagwa is not at all flying in for the funeral. He will be represented by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commissioner, Kudzai Shava’s father, the Foreign Affairs Minister, Frederick Shava.

Shava will represent Mnangagwa at Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in London next week, the paper reports.

Mnangagwa will not be able to attend.

Deputy Chief Secretary in the Office of the President and Cabinet (Presidential Communications) Mr George Charamba was quoted saying: “The Foreign Minister (Shava) is attending for the President, who is scheduled to leave for United Nations General Assembly on the day.”

Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral, which is expected to be attended more than 192 Heads of State and Government from around the world, will take place at Westminster Abbey on Monday.

Chelsea Boss Speaks On Tuchel Dismissal

Chelsea owner Todd Boehly has explained his decision to sack Thomas Tuchel, suggesting that the dismissal had nothing to do with the team losing to Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League.

Tuchel was fired last Wednesday, less than a day after the Champions League defeat in Croatia.

Brighton & Hove Albion manager Graham Potter replaced him on Thursday to complete the first managerial change under Boehly administration.

Explaining Tuchel’s dismissal, the American owner said the German did not share the same vision for the club.

“When you take over any business you just have to make sure you’re aligned with the people who are operating the business,” Boehly told delegates at the SALT leaders conference in New York.

“Tuchel is obviously extremely talented and someone who had great success at Chelsea but our vision for the club was finding a coach who wanted to collaborate with us.”

He added: “There are a lot of walls to break down at Chelsea.

“Before, the first team and the academy didn’t really share data, they didn’t share information about where the top players were coming from, so our goal was to bring a team together with the academy, with the first team, with the incremental clubs we want to acquire and develop, all of that needs to be a well-oiled machine.

“The reality of our decision was that we weren’t sure that Thomas saw is the same way we saw it. No one is right or wrong, we just didn’t have a shared vision for the future.

“It wasn’t about Zagreb, it was really about the shared vision of what we wanted Chelsea Football Club to look like.”- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Dealing With Suicide Mentality

An estimated 703,000 people a year take their life around the world.

For every suicide, there are likely 20 other people making a suicide attempt and many more have serious thoughts of suicide.

We can all play a role in supporting those experiencing a suicidal crisis or those bereaved by suicide.

We can all encourage understanding about the issue, Let’s create hope through action.- World Health Organization

World Suicide Prevention Day is observed on 10 September every year as we raise awareness of suicide and promote preventative measures to reduce the number of suicides and suicide attempts.

Check some of these reminders of how we can offer help:

Reach In: Give Hope to Someone by Showing that you care. We all can reach in and ask somebody. Small talk can save lives and create a sense of connection and hope in somebody who may be struggling.

Encourage Understanding: Promote hope to create a more compassionate society. Recognize the reality of suicide and do something to prevent it so that more people will feel more comfortable in coming forward to seek help.

Share Experiences: The insights and stories of people with a lived experience of suicide can be extremely powerful in helping others understand suicide better and encourage people to reach in to support someone, and for individuals to reach out for help themselves.

Mnangagwa Folds Hands As Nation Burns

Sikhala’s Lawyers Throw In The Towel, Says No Hope In Legal Route

Lawyers representing Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) legislators Job Sikhala and Godfrey Sithole yesterday appeared to throw in the towel after the magistrates court turned down yet another application for bail.

Mutsokoti said September 28 was an interim date given that the matters were yet to be allocated to judicial officers since they were in an anti-corruption court.

Manuwere then postponed the matter to September 28.

Mnangagwa Still Angry

President Emmerson Mnangagwa is reportedly angry with Zanu-PF’s dismal performance in his own backyard of Kwekwe, where the party failed to win in two recent by-elections.

The ruling party lost Kwekwe Central which was won by Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) candidate Judith Tobaiwa ahead of John Mapurazi of Zanu-PF, while the party’s Mbizo constituency candidate, Vongai Mupereri, was beaten by CCC’s Settlement Chikwinya.

Former State Security Minister, Owen ‘Mudha’ Ncube, recently told party supporters in Kwekwe that Mnangagwa was livid with the losses.

“I want to tell you this, that not only the party, but also the President is unhappy with the by-election results. The President is displeased that the party lost Kwekwe Central and Mbizo,” Ncube said.

He added that the loss should be taken seriously and remedied.

The feared former minister further accused some party members of sabotaging the party leading to the loss.

“You are the ones who caused us to lose. How do you explain a situation whereby, in Mbizo three quarters of the people who voted were Zanu-PF members, but the party went on to lose,” charged Ncube.

“That issue is still fresh. In Kwekwe the issue is also still fresh. We gathered that there are people in the structures who gave our people US$5 not to vote in the by-elections, its well known. That issue is still fresh. If you are sabotaging a Zanu-PF MP you are a sell-out,” he added.

Ncube, however, said the party has decided to forge ahead as united formation ahead of the elections.

The unity starting with the leadership.

“We have said let us put our differences aside and forge ahead as a united force ahead of the impending polls.

“We are rallying behind our provincial chairperson Larry Mavhima and his deputy Edison Chiherenge. If you heard that we were not seeing eye to eye with Mavhima that’s a thing of the past. If you heard we were not seeing eye to eye with Mackenzie that’s now a thing of the past.

“We are now a united front as we are forging a united front to deliver victory for President Mnangagwa. Our President has already won the elections. How can he not win when he has us as his foot-soldiers. Youths and women have already paved the way by endorsing the President.

“This is not yet time to campaign for any other candidate but the President only. There is no campaign presently for MP or council candidates,” he said.

Lawyers Tear Into Magistrate Over Sikhala Incarceration

Lawyers representing Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) legislator Job Sikhala Wednesday told a Harare magistrate it was now futile pursuing any justice for the jailed lawmaker as the courts have shown patent bias against his client.

They were joined by the tormented politician who burst out his frustrations from the dock telling presiding magistrate Taurai Manuwere point blank his court was biased against him.

Sikhala and party colleague Godfrey Sithole were back in court Wednesday on a routine remand in a case the pair is accused of inciting public violence following the murder of CCC activist Moreblessing Ali by alleged Zanu-PF supporters.

In his submissions, lawyer Jeremiah Bamu said it was pointless to keep seeking justice on behalf of the two because every single application by his clients has been turned down.

“The history of the matter against the accused person revealed that no matter what application made, the court dismissed it,” Bamu said.

“It is pointless to continue knocking on the doors of justice when it is clear the doors will never be opened to them and in the circumstances, we are left with no solution but to simply follow the court because there is no justice that will be served through these courts.

“All avenues has been closed to achieve justice.

“We therefore return to court on the appointed date not because we will get justice but simply because the laws requires us to come to court.

“We are asking the state and court to restore a sense of justice and begin to apply justice regardless of the accused person’s offence.”

Sikhala and Sithole have clocked three months behind bars following their arrest on June 14.

By A Correspondent| Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) has partnered government to launch a national schools essay writing competition aimed at exposing and curbing the scourge of child marriages in the country.

The national schools essay writing competition, whose topic is “Child marriages, causes and effects. Towards ending child marriages by 2030” and is organised by ZLHR and Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, will be held in September 2022 and is targeted at high school students in all non-examination classes, namely Forms 1, 2, 3 and 5.

It is expected that the national schools essay competition, which is supported by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, will address questions such as “the meaning of child marriages, the causes and impact of child marriages, the strategies and laws which government put in place to end child marriages, governmental institutions and non-governmental organisations that are working to end child marriages and recommendations to end child marriages.

Students will conduct their research, write and submit their essays by 28 September 2022 to their schools for onward transmission to the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, which will administer the marking of the essays.

The first competition will be held in Matabeleland North, Matabeleland South and Midlands provinces while the second competition will be held in Mashonaland East, Mashonaland West and Mashonaland Central provinces.

Schools in Manicaland and Masvingo provinces will not be participating in this year’s edition of the national schools essay competition as they were already targeted in a pilot competition held in 2021.

Winners of the national schools essay writing competition will be honoured during a prize giving ceremony to be held on 17 October 2022.

The national winner from the two competitions (Matabeleland North, Matabeleland South and Midlands provinces) and (Mashonaland East, Mashonaland West and Mashonaland Central provinces) will receive US$150 in prize money.

There will also be regional prizes, where winners for the first prize will get US$100, US$50 for the second prize and US$25 for the third prize.

Consolation prizes such as pens and rulers will be given to participants of the national schools essay writing competition.

Ukraine President Zelensky In Car Crash, Week Before UN General Assembly

Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy suffered no serious injuries from a car crash early Thursday morning in Kyiv, his press secretary said in a statement.

According to Sergii Nykyforov, another car collided with the president’s car and his escort vehicles.

“The president was examined by a doctor, no serious injuries were found,” the statement said.

The driver of the other vehicle received emergency aid from Zelenskyy’s medics and was transferred to an ambulance.

Authorities are investigating the circumstances of the incident.

Earlier on Wednesday, Zelenskyy visited Izium, a city in the northeastern Kharkiv region that Ukraine recently retook from Russia during a counteroffensive. As Zelenskyy sang the national anthem, the Ukrainian flag was raised in front of the blackened city hall.

Much of the area was left devastated during the nearly six months of Russian occupation.

Zelenskyy aims to virtually address the United Nations General Assembly next week. Russia is seeking to block his speech.

Take Concrete Steps To Protect Press Freedom For Democracy To Flourish, Govt Told

ON International Day of Democracy, Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) has implored the government to take concrete action to protect press freedom for democracy in Zimbabwe.

Commemorated on 15 September every year, International Day of Democracy, provides an opportunity to review the state of democracy in Zimbabwe, in Africa and across the world. This year, International Democracy Day is commemorated under the theme – protecting press freedom for democracy.

As a universally recognised ideal, democracy provides an environment for the protection and effective realisation of human rights. In 2022, there are concerns that ‘democracy is backsliding, civic space is shrinking, distrust, dis-information is growing, while threats to journalists and freedom of the press is expanding everyday’.

Zimbabwe is indeed, experiencing a backsliding of democracy and the concerns on press freedom and civic space are a lived reality. The need for a pluralistic press in Zimbabwe can never be understated, especially as the country moves towards yet another election.

ZLHR salutes courageous journalists and media practitioners that have been working tirelessly to facilitate freedom of expression. There are journalists who are standing together with other pro-democracy champions and standing up to call out misrule, corruption, electoral malpractices and violation of human rights. Journalists and media practitioners play a critical role in sustaining a participatory democracy by disseminating critical and much needed information, making it possible for the ordinary person to hold those in power accountable.

Sadly, in Zimbabwe, there are some journalists that have been arbitrarily arrested, prosecuted, assaulted and threatened by state and non-state actors for doing their legitimate work. For some, the persecution through prosecution is ongoing, and continues unabated.

With Zimbabwe scheduled to hold general elections in 2023, ZLHR is disconcerted by government’s failure to create an enabling environment for journalists and other media practitioners. Equally compelling is the persistent efforts by the Minister of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs to close civic space, through the introduction of the draconian Private Voluntary Organisations Amendment Bill. Disabling a diverse and robust civic society will lead to disruption of information and evidence gathering that would inform the media stories.

To make the ideals of democracy a lived reality that should be enjoyed by everyone and everywhere, ZLHR calls upon government to;

• Abandon the Private Voluntary Organisations Amendment Bill, 2021, and adopt legislation conducive to a less restrictive and more enabling operating environment for civil society organisations;

• Acknowledge the contributions, importance and rights of journalists and other media practitioners in a constitutional democracy through ensuring that their fundamental rights are protected in a manner that is consistent with the Constitution;

• Cease arbitrary arrests, malicious prosecutions and pre-trial detention of journalists for their lawful work;

• Hold those who violate rights of journalists through assaults, threats and other actions – accountable.

Robbers Attack Zanu PF Money Laundering Bank, Grab US$70K

By-Five armed robbers Tuesday hit CBZ Bank’s Fife Street branch in Bulawayo and got away with US$70 000 amid concerns over an increase in armed robberies countrywide.

Zanu PF abuses CBZ to fund its campaign activities.

The robbery, which occurred around midday, comes a month after armed robbers raided a Mukuru branch in the city centre and got away with more than US$100 000.
The branch is situated along 10th Avenue between Fife Street and George Silundika Street.
The branch mostly services clients who will be receiving money from international financial agents.
When a Chronicle news crew visited the scene yesterday at around 2PM, there was a heavy police presence outside the bank with detectives carrying out investigations.
The bank was also no longer allowing clients inside the banking hall and people were withdrawing cash using the automated teller machine (ATM).
National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the armed robbery, saying investigations were on course.
“Yes, we are conducting investigations after five armed robbers raided a local financial institution and got away with US$70 000. The five suspects masqueraded as genuine customers and queued just like everyone else in the banking hall,” he said.
“When they were about to be served, they then pounced on the bank manager and got away with the money.”
Asst Comm Nyathi said on their way out the suspects jammed the exit door before escaping.
“No arrests have been made so far and we are appealing to members of the public who might have information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects to report to any nearest police station,” said the police spokesperson.
City residents who spoke to the news crew said the increase in armed robberies is becoming an issue of concern.
Mr Blessing Nyani, a vendor operating at corner 10th Avenue and Fife Street, said he was shocked upon discovering that the bank had been robbed.
“To tell you the truth we didn’t know what had transpired. We only got to learn about the robbery when we saw armed police officers at the scene and that’s when we were told that the bank had been robbed,” he said.
“This is something that is very worrying to us as residents. Just recently, Mukuru was raided and surely, we are no longer safe consider the rate at which these robberies are happening.”
Another resident, who declined to be named, said he initially wanted to enter the banking hall before he was told that it was now a crime scene.
“I was surprised because there was nothing that pointed to the fact that a robbery had happened. From what I have gathered this thing happened so quickly and most people did not see or suspect anything,” he said.
“I would like to commend the bank for handling this issue in a very professional way. We understand that this was a traumatic experience, but they kept serving us through the ATM.”
The incident follows last month’s raid of another financial institution where four gun-wielding robbers got away with a total of US$100 000 and R500 000 after intercepting a cash-in-transit Safeguard vehicle outside a money transfer agent in the city centre.
Armed robbers last month raided Mukuru branch along 13th Avenue, between Lobengula and Herbert Chitepo Street.
Following an increase in armed robbery cases, President Mnangagwa last month issued an amnesty to all members of the public who are in possession of unregistered firearms and ammunition to surrender them to the Zimbabwe Republic Police.
The amnesty which started on August 8 will run until the end of this month.
By Monday, 412 guns had been surrendered to the police. Chronicle

SA Home Affairs Minister Threatens ZEP Holders

By-South Africa’s Home Affairs Minister Aaron Motsoaledi said that expired Zimbabwean exemption permit (ZEP) holders who do not apply to be in the country legally would be punished if they remain in SA after the grace period runs out.

Motsoaledi said this on Tuesday when he appeared in parliament to provide an update on the ZEP process underway.

 He said:

The ball is in their court, not in the government’s court. We will deal with them the same way we deal with someone who is in the country illegally and overstayed. There is punishment for that.

Motsoaledi explained that there are two applications the Department of Home Affairs is expecting from expired Zimbabwean exemption permit (ZEP) holders. He said:

There are two applications we are expecting from Zimbabweans, namely the visa in terms of the Immigration Act and an application for a waiver where an applicant may say these are their circumstances and they ask for a waiver from what the government has directed them to do.

We realised that work needed experts because it is a special dispensation, so I appointed a team of six, including three officials who were dealing with the reviewing of permits and three senior councils from the private sector.

They have had several meetings to outline how the work is going to be done so there is a common understanding and they follow similar standards when they start working.

Motsoaledi insisted that the South African government was not targetting Zimbabweans. He said:

I know people say we are only targeting Zimbabweans, but the Basotho permit is expiring at the end of December 2023.

The Zimbabwean permits expired in December 2021. This is because they were issued at different times.

ZESA Fails To Deal With Power Crisis

Man Scales Precast Wall, Bashes Lover For Ditching Him

Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the incident.

He appealed for information that may lead to the arrest of Tinashe.

“Anyone with information about the whereabouts of Tinashe may contact any nearest police station or call us on 292260358,”he said.- B-Metro

Coup General Declared Hero

Brigadier General Charles Kaneta, who died on Saturday after collapsing at his farm in Nyanga, has been declared a national hero in honour of the immense contributions he made to his country before and after independence.

He died at the age of 64.

He collapsed at his farm on Saturday and was rushed to Hauna District Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival at around noon.

Brig-Gen Kaneta was the Director General Logistics at the Zimbabwe Defence Forces Headquarters.

In his condolence message last night, President Mnangagwa said he learnt with shock and sadness the death of Brig Gen Kaneta.

“It was with profound shock and sadness that I learnt of the untimely passing on of Brigadier General Charles Kaneta at his rural home in Honde last Saturday,” said President Mnangagwa.

“What makes his demise painful and difficult to accept is that he showed no signs of being unwell and was on a routine visit to his rural home.

“The passing on of Brigadier General Kaneta, whose Chimurenga name was Santana Tongai, is a great loss to our nation, and to our Defence Force whose crop of wartime field commanders is gradually being whittled down.”

Brig-Gen Kaneta joined the liberation struggle in 1975 in Mozambique at a young age.

He was a graduate of the Nanjing Military Academy in China, as well as a beneficiary of specialised military training in Syria.

President Mnangagwa said Brig-Gen Kaneta’s contribution to the liberation struggle “stands out in our annals of liberation history”.

“He was a tough and brilliant military instructor through whose hands passed many cadres, including senior party officials such as the late national hero Cde Herbert Ushewokunze, late Cde Crispen Mandizvidza and Dr Sidney Sekeramayi,” he said.

Following his attestation in 1981 into the integrated Zimbabwe National Army, Brig-Gen Kaneta had an illustrious military career, rising through the ranks to become a Brigadier General.

“He served our nation well. On behalf of the party, Zanu PF, Government, the people of Zimbabwe, my family and indeed on my behalf, I wish to convey my heartfelt condolences to the Kaneta family, especially to his wife, Amai Kaneta, and the children who have lost a loving husband and father respectively.

“May they take comfort from the knowledge that we are together during their darkest hour of grief and sorrow.

“In recognition of his immense contribution to the liberation of our nation and to our independence in the service of the Zimbabwe Defence Force, the party has seen it fit and proper to honour the late Brigadier General Charles Kaneta with national hero status.

“May his dear soul rest in eternal peace,” said President Mnangagwa.

Lover Throws Mai TT Under The Bus

By-Comedian and socialite “Mai Titi is now regretting borrowing for her April wedding with the US-based gold-digger Tinashe Maphosa.

This comes after people whom she borrowed are now haunting her over unpaid debts.

Mai Titi had a flamboyant wedding with Maphosa where she splashed up to US$100 000.

So extravagant was the wedding ceremony that Mai Titi invited South African songbird, Kelly Khumalo to serenade guests.

However, it later turned out that she did not fork out the whole amount from her own pocket.

Zanu PF Absorbs Makandiwa

By James Gwati-Zanu PF has absorbed the Emmanuel Makandiwa-led United Family International Church (UFIC) and converted it into its 2023 campaign agent.

On Sunday, Zanu PF national Political Commissar Mike Bimha and his wife were at Makandiwa’s Church in Chitungwiza.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa instructed Bimha to visit Makandiwa’s church frequently.

In his address, the coerced Makandiwa said that Zanu PF was developing the nation.
He said:
You highlighted something which is very crucial, Dr Bimha that we have managed to stretch as a nation in terms of development.
However, not much is being said concerning the developments taking place and we are behind in terms of marketing ourselves globally. There is a lot that has to be known about us.
… As men of God, we need to deal with the cloud that hovers around this country because if it is not removed, the citizens will remain under that cloud.
There is need for prayer to be raised so that people can begin to appreciate good things.
In his address, Bimha urged UFIC as well as other churches to continue praying for peace and unity in the country. He said:
Unity is what we seek from Prophet Makandiwa and your church, and we ask you to pray for us. It is through your prayers that we are still living in peace. Other countries have wars every time.
Peace does not just come, it’s through your prayers. You might pray silently without making any noise about it, but we know that you pray for this country Prophet Makandiwa.
Bimha also told the congregants that the government values the role of the churches in the country and the national constitution recognises freedom of worship. |
