Types Of Hepatitis

World hepatitis day 2022 data

World Hepatitis Day
is observed each year on 28 July to raise awareness of viral hepatitis, which causes inflammation of the liver that leads to severe disease and liver cancer.

The world is currently facing a new outbreak of unexplained acute hepatitis infections affecting children. WHO, together with scientists and policymakers in affected countries, are working to understand the cause of this infection that does not appear to belong to any of the known 5 types of hepatitis viruses: A,B,C,D, and E.

This new outbreak brings focus on thousands of acute viral hepatitis infections that occur among children, adolescents and adults every year.

Most acute hepatitis infections cause mild disease and even go undetected. But in some cases, they can lead complications and be fatal. In 2019 alone, an estimated 78 000 deaths occurred worldwide due to complications of acute hepatitis A to E infections.

Global efforts prioritize the elimination of the hepatitis infections B, C and D infections. Unlike acute viral hepatitis, these 3 infections cause chronic hepatitis that lasts for several decades and culminate in over 1 million deaths per year from cirrhosis and liver cancer.

These 3 types of chronic hepatitis infections are responsible for over 95% of hepatitis deaths. While we have the guidance and tools to diagnose, treat, and prevent chronic viral hepatitis, these services are often out of reach of communities and are sometimes only available at centralized/specialized hospitals.

On World Hepatitis Day 2022, WHO is highlighting the need for bringing hepatitis care closer to the primary health facilities and communities so that people have better access to treatment and care, no matter what type of hepatitis they may have.

WHO aims to achieve hepatitis elimination by 2030. To get there, WHO calls on countries to achieve specific targets:

Reduce new infections of hepatitis B and C by 90%;
Reduce hepatitis related deaths from liver cirrhosis and cancer by 65%;
Ensure that at least 90% of people with hepatitis B and C virus are diagnosed; and
At least 80% of those eligible receive appropriate treatment.

Mai TT- A FULL BLOWN ZANU PF SIDESHOW POLITICAL PROJECT.

By Knowledge Hakata- Despite intense infighting that characterizes Zanu PF, the fact remains that ZANU PF is determined to win the next election at any cost.

For them, there is just too much at stake and they cannot afford to take any chances. 2023 is a matter of life or death not just another election.

Yes, they have now come to a point where they can no longer hide the ever-widening fissures which have been lately exacerbated by the increasing Failed Economic Policies of Mnangagwa and uncertainly around succession with the combative Vice President Chiwenga.

However, as we have seen in the past, their survival instinct will never desert them.

They will certainly regroup to protect their self-interests, most importantly, their ill-gotten or unexplained wealth which is the sole reason for most of them being in politics or public service.

Progressive citizens should shun, unsubscribe and throw controversial Felistas Murata into the comedy dustbin as she is actually a Zanu PF project meant to divert thousands from registering to vote.

Mai TT who has been in and out of relationship in which a normal person who is not bipolar related would take some time from moving into the next relationship has been hijacked by the system as a sideshow to by some time for the Harare regime.

Zanu Pf has been on a spree paying large sums of money to a number of socialist as to divert especially the youths from registering to vote.

A number of well-known socialist such as the Comic Pastor, Madam Boss, Passion Java, Roki, as well as false prophets have been financially captured by the system and no one among them dares to encourage the youths to register to vote.

Very soon, warring parties will close the gap as they share platforms at campaign rallies.

Collaboratively, they are going to employ violence, abuse state resources and institutions including state media, force traditional leaders to frog March villagers to rallies and polling stations.

They have the instinct of baboons endlessly squabbling among themselves but uniting to fight fiercely when a predator appears.

Do not be fooled – ZANU PF has had internal struggles since inception.

Let us ignore these sideshows that are mostly banal re-plays, and focus earnestly on building the coalition of hope.

Zimbabweans yearn for democracy, peace and prosperity and this is what the coalition must deliver.

The effective, genuine and inclusive alliance must build unstoppable momentum towards voter education and registration as we prepare for 2023

As ZANU PF appears to be busy squabbling, they have agencies on the ground that are busy stealing the next election.

I would not be surprised if militias are already being deployed across the country and some teams are working on how they can manipulate, scuttle or at least frustrate the voter’s registration project.

All eyes must be on the ball. It is time to focus on what is most important as we prepare for 2023.

Ongoing sideshows in ZANU PF are a mere distraction that we must not be excited about.

Zanu PF sideshows are just too many to name but focused citizens should keep registering to vote as it is the only hope left that can bring sanity to our dead economy.

The eyes should be on the bigger price which is to kick out Zanu PF from power next year.

Even the banning of Zimbabwe from International Soccer is another crazy sideshow that the regime is still using to continue its unwanted and prolonged stay in power.

Our nation needs to recover from the ruinous policies of the past 42 years as well as the recent turbulence that ushered in the new guard.

If we continue to criticize without offering alternative solutions, we will come across as people only interested in power at any cost.

Of course there are times when we will disagree, but let us do so respectfully and constructively. Citizens Coalition the only deal in town, continue to register to vote in numbers.

Stay Focused Don’t be distracted by Mai TT

Power Outages Threaten Yields

By A Correspondent- The 2020 National Young Champion Farmer Award winner, Pardon Mhuri, has said incessant power cuts threatened his yields. He told The Standard that he has turned to solar energy to continue operating.

Mhuri began the farming enterprise in 2013 with two hectares of tobacco at his farm in Karoi Mashonaland West province.

The Standard reports that the farmer now is farming on 863 hectares, growing sugar beans, wheat and vegetables in addition to tobacco. He told the publication

We rely heavily on electricity on the farm.

For over a decade, the country has been facing an electricity challenge, so I have to install a powerful solar system.

Over the past few years, Zimbabwe has been experiencing a massive power deficit with Energy and Power Development minister Zhemu  Soda last month warning that the country might endure rolling power cuts beyond August due to depressed generation capacity.

Soda said the government was making frantic efforts to ease the power cuts through imports and rehabilitation of the Hwange Thermal Power Station.

Zimbabwe requires 2 000 megawatts (MW) of electricity monthly to meet power demand and 50MW from Mozambique’s Hydro Cahora Bassa and 400MW from South Africa are still inadequate to close the supply gap.

Energy expert Koen van Kuijk said the fact that Zimbabwe has an average annual of 8.3 sun hours per day makes the country suitable for solar energy.

ZESA says there were plenty of independent power producers that were expected to start their various projects and add to the national grid

“It’s Too Much”: Linda Masarira Speaks On Marry Mubaiwa’s Insensitive Treatment

“This Time SADC Has No Excuse For Giving Zanu Pf Legitimacy”

By Nomusa Garikai- The soaring fuel and food prices caused, partly, by the 2019 corona virus and exasperated by the unprovoked invasion of Ukraine by Russia in February 2022; have triggered serious economic problems, everyone the world over is worried.
Inflation in UK is 9% and is projected to rise to 13% by the end of the year.

As feared, an impoverished nation like Zimbabwe is already coughing blood: the country’s hyperinflation has already hit 600%, the highest in the world!

No one would want to hazard a guess of what the country’s hyperinflation would be next week much less in six months, what is clear is that it is growing exponentially.

In 2008 it peaked at 500 billion percent!

There are many reasons why Zimbabwe is in such economic mess compared to its own neighbours such as South Africa, Zambia or Botswana.

The number one reason is because Zimbabwe has been stuck with a corrupt, incompetent and tyrannical Zanu PF dictatorship for 42 years and counting.

42 years of gross mismanagement, rampant corruption, riotous lawlessness and ruthless political oppression, earning the country the pariah state label; have left the country in total economic ruins and political paralysis.

The ruthless political oppression has created a suffocating political system in which no competent and quality leaders can survive; a sewage swamp no quality fish can survive.

In the 42 years the country has had many opportunities to end the Zanu PF dictatorship, notably during the 2008 to 2013 GNU, but has wasted all these chances.

The Movement for Democratic Change (MDC), the country’s main opposition party of the last 22 years, including the GNU years, has failed to implement even one reform to stop Zanu PF rigging the elections.

Not even one! Hence the political paralysis.

Before independence, Zimbabwe was the breadbasket of the Southern Africa.

The Zanu PF regime seized the white owned farms to give to party loyalists, mainly, and the country’s agricultural sector collapsed taking down with it the economy.

Zimbabweans are starving in a land which is for all practical purposes the Biblical Garden of Eden; a damning testimonial of how we, Zimbabweans, have failed to govern the country.

The nation has paid dearly for our failure to govern ourselves as millions of our people have been forced into abject poverty and to suffer in dumb anguish denied their freedoms and basic human rights for 42 years and counting.

And whenever there is a worldwide economic disruption, as is the case now; whilst other nations catch flue, we because our economy is already weak and feeble cough blood or worse.

The root cause of Zimbabwe’s economic meltdown and political paralysis is the country’s failure to hold free, fair and credible elections- a man-made problem or to be more specific a Zanu PF and MDC/CCC made problem.

Like all human-made problems, there is a human solution. We must implement the democratic reforms, MDC failed to implement during the 2008 to 2013 GNU, to ensure free, fair and credible elections.

It is too late to implement any reforms before the 2023 elections, less than a year away.

Zanu PF wants the elections to go ahead with no reforms so it can blatantly rig and secure another five years in power.

CCC are hell bent on participating in the flawed elections for the same reasons they failed to implement even one reform during the GNU – greed and breathtakingly incompetent.

In the past Zanu PF has counted on Sadc, the regional body to fraudulently endorse the rigged elections and thus grant the regime legitimacy.

This time we, the people must leave no stone unturned in exposing these elections for what they are – farce. Sadc, IMF, USA and more recently EU have all called for reforms before elections because they all know without reforms the elections will never be anything else but a farce.

This time Sadc will have no excuse for giving Zanu PF legitimacy. None!

What Zimbabwe needs is another GNU opportunity to implement the reforms to ensure free elections and thus finally end the curse of rigged elections and bad governance.

Zim Man In Soup Over Forged Qualifications In Ireland

By A Correspondent- A Zimbabwe-born Drogheda man has been accused of using “forged” university degrees and professional qualifications to work as a clinical psychologist, helping vulnerable children and adults.

Agencies report that Nikiwe Dube of Colpe Drive, Drogheda, Ireland, appeared before Dublin District Court this afternoon.

The 39-year-old is accused of forgery by making false instruments to obtain employment in Dublin between 2019 and 2022.

The court heard that Gardaí (local police) searched his home and allegedly recovered forged papers and a Garda stamp.

Judge Cephas Power was told Dube claimed to have degrees from the University of Zimbabwe, but he never attended the university.

Defence solicitor Conor McGreevy told the court his client came to Ireland in 2018 as a refugee fleeing persecution and there was no suggestion he forged his identity or used an alias.

Following a contested bail hearing, Judge Power noted the seriousness of the allegations and the investigating officer had established a flight risk objection.

However, he said that the presumed innocent accused had been in the State for four years.

In light of those circumstances, the judge granted bail on a number of conditions including a bond of €20 000, of which he must lodge €10 000 and a €5 000 independent surety that has to be approved before he can be released.

Poverty Pushes Mothers To Wean Own Babies At Tender Ages

By A Correspondent- A survey by Anadolu Agency has observed that some Zimbabwean mothers are weaning their babies at very tender ages due to poverty.

One mother identified as Lindiwe Sayi, 32, said she weaned her baby when she was just three months old as the mother had to focus on her work as a vendor to earn a livelihood in Zimbabwe’s capital.

Her husband, 37-year-old Langton Muyeni, left the country last December, heading to neighbouring South Africa in search of greener pastures and has never been in touch with his wife since then.

Seized with the role of having to fend for her three children, including the infant, the single mom now has to work even harder.

In Zimbabwe, Sayi is just one of many women, who, hard-pressed to the core by the country’s mounting economic hardships, are forgoing exclusive breastfeeding. Sayi told Anadolu Agency:

I have to live. My children need school fees and food, and if I had allowed myself to stay and focus on breastfeeding my last-born child, the life would have been worse for us as a family today.

The globe has since 1992 annually between Aug. 1-7 commemorated World Breastfeeding Week, a global campaign to raise awareness and galvanize action on breastfeeding. Early weaning affects babies’ health negatively

Another Zimbabwean woman, Tracy Maunganidze, a mother of a four-month-old baby who is working as a till operator in a grocery store in Harare says she found it difficult to stick to the six months of exclusive breastfeeding, as she rather has to work to support her dependents, including her infant baby.

She said staying at home to focus on breastfeeding her baby, with nobody fending for the family, would mean malnutrition would pound all of them.

Some women stated that they wean their babies prematurely because they have to go to work to get money for bills.

Arnold Rukoko, a paediatrician in Harare, told Anadolu Agency that babies weaned before they could be breastfed exclusively for the six months have very weak immune systems.

According to UNICEF, only about 14% of Zimbabwean mothers breastfeed their babies up to the recommended two years, with the majority of them rushing to wean their babies below the stipulated cutoff point.

Last year, UNICEF and the World Health Organization, while marking World Breastfeeding Week, blamed the coronavirus for derailing the progress made in urging mothers to practice exclusive breastfeeding.

As scores of Zimbabwean mothers quit breastfeeding due to economic hardships, UNICEF said mothers who breastfeed have a reduced risk of ovarian and breast cancer, which have become the leading causes of death among women over the years.

Mohadi Snubs Agricultural Show Over CCC Protest

By A Correspondent- Former State vice president, Kembo Mohadi Friday snubbed the 75th edition of Mashonaland West Agricultural Show 2022 after security details reportedly sniffed an alleged protest plot over his eligibility to officiate.

Sources told NewZimbabwe.com, there were heightened fears opposition Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) would embarass the former VP.

He only attended the national clean up campaign programme at Chinhoyi Provincial Heroes Acre and immediately returned to Harare.

Provincial Affairs minister, Mary Mliswa-Chikoka, who stood for him, told the gathering the Zanu PF vice president could not attend due to other pressing commitments.

“VP Mohadi was unable to attend because duty called. There was urgent business back in Harare,” she said.

Interestingly, Chinhoyi mayor, Garikai Dendera of Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) was among dignitaries seated in the VVIP arena following proceedings.

In the run up to the opening ceremony, there was controversy over the criteria used in choosing the guest of honour.

While serving top government officials, ambassadors and captains of industry have traditionally officiated at successive show events, it is disgraced ex-VP Mohadi’s invitation that has set tongues wagging among various stakeholders.

Some quarters argued the show society has politicised the annual exhibition by engaging Mohadi, whose only remaining influential position is that of Zanu PF second secretary or vice president.

In 2020, he resigned from his government job after being embroiled in a sex scandal involving his female aides.

CCC ward councillors, who constitute the bulk of the 15-member host Chinhoyi Municipality, had expressed reservations  participating at an opening ceremony presided over by Mohadi.

Mashonaland West Show Society chairman, Godfrey Mavankeni insisted Mohadi was invited in his capacity as a “senior citizen” and not as a member of Zanu PF’s presidium.

Zanu PF Thug Points Gun At CCC Members

By James Gwati- The opposition CCC has reported that a known Zanu PF activist in Chirumanzu has threatened to shoot their supporters.

Posting on Twitter, CCC said they had since reported the case to the police.

Posted CCC:

VIOLENCE ALERT: One of our members from Chirumanzu South, Emmanuel Muzvondiwa, was attacked by a Zanu PF thug named Majuta for wearing our regalia. The thug had a gun, and pointed it at our member as he ordered him to remove #CCC regalia.

Mnangagwa, Auxillia Patronise ZCC Followers

By- President Emerson Mnangagwa and his wife Auxillia at the weekend attended a Zion Christian Church (ZCC) service in a move to seek votes in the next year’s elections.

Mnangagwa and his Zanu PF have a propensity to patronising churches whenever the country goes for an election.

Posting Mnangagwa ZCC service attendance images, Zanu PF information director Tafadzwa Mugwadi said the President was a man of peace.

Bishop N.S Mutendi informs the President Mnangagwa that his invitation to the ZCC Church’s City of Peace-Defe is a deserving fit to a Man of Peace, a builder, a Statesman who was prophesied in 1966 by Rev Samuel Mutendi that God ordained him a victor in every race he runs.

Mnangagwa, Chiwenga Fight Escalates

By- Zanu PF President Emmerson Mnangagwa is said to be using parallel structures to gunner party support and boot out his deputy Constantino Chiwenga ahead of the ruling party elective congress.

Zanu PF is holding its elective congress in October to choose the party 2023 Presidential elections.

The Standard reports that Mnangagwa is accused of imposing his ally John Paradza as leader of the Zanu PF youth league, sparking resistance from party structures.

Meetings to introduce Paradza and his new youth league executive ended in violence in Manicaland and Masvingo as Zanu PF factions clashed openly to demonstrate the chasm.

In Mutare, violent scenes erupted during an election to replace former Mutare district coordination committee secretary for youth affairs Danmore Mambondiani, who recently won a position in the national executive.

In Masvingo, violence marred a party youth meeting held at Masvingo Polytechnic where they had met to elect a new provincial youth leader.

The post was left vacant after Paradza’s elevation.

Ruling party insiders said Mnangagwa was using parallel structures such as MenBelievED to organise his 2023 election campaign because of growing mistrust within Zanu PF structures following the emergence of a faction allegedly aligned to Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga.

The MenBelievED group is organising a solidarity march for the Zanu PF leader  slated for August 27 at Harare’s Robert Mugabe Square.

Other groups that are campaigning for Mnangagwa outside Zanu PF structures are Young Women for ED and Varakashi for EDamong others.

Zanu PF spokesperson Christopher Mutsvangwa refused to comment about the march when asked if this was a planned party event.

He referred questions to the organiser of the march and founder of the MenBelievEd group Justice Matsatsira who yesterday said he could only comment about the march on Wednesday.

“I cannot comment right now,” Matsatsira said.

“I am away in the rural areas where I am attending a funeral.

“I will be back on Wednesday when I can give you more details on the march.”

In the past, similar marches were organised by party organs at the height of factional fights in Zanu PF that pitted late president Robert Mugabe and Mnangagwa.

Mugabe was eventually toppled in a coup in 2017, which paved the way for his deputy.

In 2016, former Zanu PF youth secretary Kudzai Chipanga organised a “million-man march” in support of Mugabe amid manoeuvres by a camp linked to Mnangagwa to remove him.

Chipanga also organised youth interface rallies where Mugabe’s wife, Grace would openly dress down alleged Mnangagwa allies.

In 2007, Zanu PF Bulawayo chairperson Jabulani Sibanda organised a similar march in support of Mugabe whose support was waning.

A recently leaked internal police memorandum showed that the ruling Zanu PF party’s popularity is waning at the grassroots following its cell audit that was conducted in June.

Political analyst Sydicks Muradzikwa said the solidarity march in support of Mnangagwa was senseless when the country was battling various social, political and economic crises.

“The planned solidarity march is an idea born out of extreme actions of solidarity and misguided ultra-patriotism ideologies among President Mnangagwa’s camp,” Muradzikwa said.

“Any action intended to show genuine solidarity should be anchored on political common sense and rationality.

“Regrettably, this is what happens when public support for politics is incentivised and is further devoid of political reasoning and common sense.”

Another analyst Vivid Gwede said the solidarity march showed that trouble was brewing in Zanu PF.

“We would surmise what else do the president’s supporters perceive as his difficulties if not the spectres of factionalism in his party or the approaching elections where his chances are being daily chipped away by the economic collapse,” Gwede said.

“A government and leadership that are doing well do not need solidarity marches.”

Mnangagwa is eyeing a second full term in next year’s elections where he is set to face Citizens Coalition for Change leader Nelson Chamisa, whom he narrowly beat in the disputed 2018 elections.

An Afrobarometer survey in June showed that 33% of respondents said they would vote for Chamisa against 30% for the Zanu PF leader.

CCC Vows To Defy Police Rally Bans

By- Kuwadzana East Member of Parliament, Charlton Hwende has said his party will hold rallies without approval from the police in the future.

The CCC secretary general said this following the ban on his feedback meeting in Kuwadzana east by the Police on Saturday.

Hwende, sought to thank residents of the high-density suburb for re-electing him as a member of parliament but police stopped him and also arrested dozens of the party’s activists.

The legislator said the decision to shut their meeting down came even after they had presented all documentation that allowed them to go ahead. They had applied thrice before being given a green light.

He said:

They came and arrested our people.

After the elections we made three applications requesting for permission to come thank the people who elected us.

Three different applications have been turned down. Today we came with a proper feedback meeting, properly applied for with notices required in terms of the law given but as you can see, we have been stopped.

They are treating us as banned but I am not sure they can successfully stop a member of parliament (MP) and elected councillor from meeting residents.

We will be speaking to government officials that are responsible for this kind of behaviour.

The councillor had successfully managed to bring all top officials from council to answer queries in the community.

Going forward we will just continue without approval because we apply, and they continue turning us down; we cannot fail to meet residents.

The police previously blocked CCC rallies in , Marondera and Chegutu before the by-elections in which CCC claimed most of the seats.

Commission Releases Shocking Rape Statistics

By- The Zimbabwe Gender Commission has said that over 22 women are raped daily in Zimbabwe, with an average of one rape occurring per 75 minutes, translating to an average of 646 women being violated each month.

The Commission also reports that one in three girls is also raped or sexually assaulted before they reach the age of 18.5 years and the vast majority of sexual offences are committed by men against women, children and other men.
Zimbabwe Gender Commission chairperson Commissioner Margaret Mukahanana-Sangarwe said statistics of rape in Zimbabwe were alarming and on the increase.
“The statistics on the incidences of rape in Zimbabwe are shockingly high, they are alarming.
They are not good at all, they are also under reported which is also an indication that the cases we have on record could be more than what are actually reported,” she said.
Comm Mukahanana-Sangarwe said many were going unreported owing to several cultural, religious and social issues that are going on.
“The cases are under reported actually, this is largely because of religious and also cultural issues that are affecting this underreported. In our culture, a lot of cases are taking place and what happens is that the perpetrators are protected within the family units so there is a challenge there,” she said.
The Chairperson said there was a national public inquiry on Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (SEA) of young girls and child marriages and the efficacy of access to justice and social protections in these thematic issues that is taking place, which revealed the extent of abuse in the country.
“The inquiry on child marriages and SEA revealed that these children that were in these marriages were actually victims of rape by close family relations, so the matter is serious,” she said.
The Commission noted in the national inquiry that Sexual Exploitation and Abuse of Young Girls and Child Marriages (including those with disabilities) was a systemic barrier prejudicial to gender equality, and gender mainstreaming.
The negative effects of child marriages in so far as it curtails the development of young girls, expose them to health risks and Sexual Gender Based Violence cannot be overemphasized.
“The Commission is therefore duty bound to carry out full investigations into these matters.
The conduct of such investigations affords the Commission an opportunity to identify a sector/social stratum which is severely affected by the identified barrier, notify the nation through a government gazette and adverts, and invite complainants and witnesses to make submissions.
Thereafter the Commission will have leeway to summon persons and institutions which it deems fit to respond to the complaints,” reads part of the submissions to the inquiry.
According to the Research and Advocacy Unit of the Commission, 31 percent of girls in Zimbabwe get married before the age of 18 and four percent are married before the age of 15.
According to the Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency (Zimstat), 33.7 percent of girls aged under 18 are married, which means that one in three girls under 18 are married.
Zimstat also recorded that two percent of boys get married before reaching the age of 18 years.
The Ministry of Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development highlighted that, a total of 4,959 young girls got impregnated during lockdown period and nearly 5 000 of the girls’ risk losing their educational opportunity.
The Zimbabwe Gender Commission also said that statistics from the Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS) 2019 demonstrate that Child Marriage is still a challenge in Zimbabwe and disproportionately affecting more girls than boys.
Further indications are that Child Marriage prevalence is high (40 percent) in rural areas as compared to urban areas (21.3 percent).
A Constitutional Law expert at the University of Zimbabwe Dr James Tsabora said it was folly to address rape as a crime committed on women only while men are victims/survivors of rape too in some instances.
“I agree that there is a gendered description of rape in section 65 of the Criminal Code and this is wrong. It’s a criminal offence created on a very wrong assumption without any legal logic.
We have had several cases where women commit rape and the section must be revisited.
Other jurisdictions provide enough guidance and the law should be changed to reflect lived reality,” he said. Sunday News

Mnangagwa Plots To Boot-Out Chiwenga

By- Zanu PF President Emmerson Mnangagwa is said to be using parallel structures to gunner party support ahead of the ruling party elective congress.

Mzembi Questions Continued Mandatory Wearing Of Masks In Zimbabwe

Former cabinet minister Walter Mzembi has questioned the continued forcing of citizens to wear face masks in Zimbabwe at a time most countries have relaxed the regulation.

Posting on Twitter, Mzembi who was commenting on a picture of President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his party deputy Kembo Mohadi standing at the airport, he said the continued use or masks is reflective of a controlling and fearful spirit by the Zimbabwean government.

“There is something draconian & reflective of a controlling & fearful spirit in the observance of mask wearing when virtually most countries in the world have relaxed this Regulation , what really is the continued fascination with the mask in August 2022,” said Mzembi.

Face masks are still mandatory in Zimbabwe with the police still arresting those seen in public without it.

Other countries such as South Africa, Zambia and United Kingdom among others have relaxed Covid-19 regulations allowing citizens to move freely without the burden of a mask.

Go To Court If You Are Not Happy, Harare Mayor Mafume Tells July Moyo

The Harare City Council has resolved to cancel the Pomona waste management deal that was imposed on the local authority by the Local Government ministry.

Council had resolved to suspend the 30-year agreement for a month before the latest developments.

The local authority also disregarded Local Government minister July Moyo’s order that council pay a US$1,5 million bill due to Geogenix BV for services rendered in May and June at the Pomona waste management energy plant.

Harare mayor Jacob Mafume yesterday confirmed that the local authority had cancelled the Pomona deal, saying Moyo must go to court if he was unhappy.

“I can confirm that we cancelled the Pomona deal. We came to this agreement in the last meeting we had,” Mafume said in an interview.

“We are a council and we make our decisions. If they are unhappy they go to court. Once we make a resolution it’s binding and stands.”

Last week, the Combined Harare Residents Association (CHRA) filed an urgent High Court  application seeking an order setting aside a resolution to use the city’s devolution funds to pay Georgenix.

CHRA is being  represented by Archford Rutanhira and Evans Moyo of the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR).

Government imposed the costly waste-to-energy-deal on the City of Harare without going to tender.

Under the deal, the local authority is supposed to pay US$22 000 per day or an estimated US$1 million a month to the contracted Netherlands’ based company for the next 30 years.

But the council refused to pay the bill after resolving to suspend the 30-year agreement between the local authority and Geogenix BV, represented by its executive chairperson Delish Nguwaya.

The government has been putting pressure on the local authority to pay the debt resulting in the government resolving that the state would use the city’s devolution funds forcing the CHRA to approach the courts.

The Local Government ministry has been accusing the City of Harare of frustrating the deal which was given national project status.

Mnangagwa Running Zanu PF Using Parallel Structures

President Emmerson Mnangagwa is increasingly using parallel structures after some Zanu PF organs resisted the imposition of his allies ahead of the ruling party’s congress, insiders say.

Bail For NSSA Director

NSSA director corporate affairs David Makwara, yesterday appeared in Court on allegations of defrauding the authority of US$182 661,77 by using a contractor to siphon the cash out of NSSA without doing any of the paid-for home renovations.

David Makwara was facing fraud charges when he appeared before Harare magistrate Mr Stanford Mambanje and was remanded out of custody to September 15 on free bail.

The court heard that in August last year Makwara misrepresented that Zivo Project Management (Pvt) Ltd was to carry out renovation works worth the US$182 661,77 at his home at 5 Ruwanga Road in Mandara.

He had approached Nigel Mahachi, the project manager at Zivo Project Management to give him a quotation for the proposed renovation work and Mahachi in turn submitted a bill of quantity to Makwara plus the invoice for US$182 661.77.

Further investigations established that soon afterwards, Makwara submitted the invoice to NSSA for payment and NSSA then transferred the full US$182 661,77 to Zivo Project Management’s BancABC account.

But then Makwara corruptly directed Nigel Mahachi to refund him the money in cash less bank charges and any other associated costs.

This was against NSSA policy and practice which does not allow a person to be paid the money for home mprovement directly, unless prior approval have been granted, which was not the position with Makwara.

To raise the actual US dollar banknotes in cash, Zivo Project Management transferred US$171 600 to an Ecobank Account and then Makwara was given hard cash totalling US$165 000.

Early in June this year, Makwara phoned Mahachi inviting him to his house to see some renovations work done and sent him some hand written notes with fifteen items to be included on the bill of quantity in case Zivo Project Management might be approached by the authorities.

The accused persons acted unlawfully by misrepresenting to NSSA and fraudulently submitted an invoice of US$182 661.77 purporting that Zivo Project Management (Pvt) Ltd wanted to carry out some renovations works at Stand 1144 Mandara Township yet in actual fact he wanted to use Zivo Project Management as a vehicle to siphon money from NSSA.-Herald

Police Keen To Arrest Mourners Who Had S*x On Top Of Grave

Two mourners stripped naked and engaged in sexual intercourse on top of a grave in broad daylight and in full view of other mourners at Dangamvura Cemetery on Thursday last week.

The incident happened just after the burial of the late 45-year-old Sakubva brothel operator, Maroni Mazvita Karinda.

The shocking incident was reportedly initiated by a well-known commercial sex worker only identified as Tatenda or Mai Keisha after she undressed while asking if anyone was willing to be intimate with her.

A middle-aged man who is understood to be a loafer who frequents the area near Sakubva Roundabout accepted Mai Keisha’s invitation.

The incident has since gone viral on various social media platforms after other mourners filmed the act.

Meanwhile, a brother to the deceased, Fungai Mazvita Karinda told The Manica Post that the family was not happy with what the mourners did at Maroni’s burial. He said:

We are not happy at all with what happened during the funeral of our departed brother. These people started their uncouth behaviour while we were still at home.

As a family, we tried by all means to stop them, but they turned a deaf ear to us.

We told them that while they were his friends, they should respect us, but they never relented.

We hope and pray that these people will be arrested because they literally hijacked my brother’s funeral to parade their shamelessness.

Up to now, we are yet to come to terms with what we saw during our brother’s funeral.

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson in Manicaland Province Inspector Nobert Muzondo said the culprits will be brought to book. He said:

We thank you for bringing this matter to our attention. We will pursue it until the culprits are brought to book.

Those who engaged in the act, those who filmed it and the ones who paid the two people to engage in it have cases to answer. This is a serious matter that deserves our attention.

We surely cannot tolerate such wayward behaviour. People cannot be intimate in public, let alone on a grave during a funeral with onlookers cheering as if they are watching a soccer match. It is unacceptable.- Manica Post

Passport Bosses Divert Salary Money To Buy Posh Cars

A dispute has erupted between Kingdom Five Zimbabwe; a company contracted by government to do renovations for the Harare e-passport centre, and its workers as well as subcontracted companies over unpaid wages and fees for the project.
Subcontracted companies and workers are allegedly owed varying amounts of money by the company amid claims that Kingdom Five management diverted the funds and bought posh vehicles.

Some of the workers interviewed by The Standard said they were owed as much as US$5 000.

According to a company profile, Kingdom Five Zimbabwe is part of the Kingdom Group, a multifaceted company that operates in the various sectors of the industry which include transport, civil works, agriculture, mining and property development.

Its portfolio includes projects from various sectors in Zimbabwe, Botswana and Namibia.

The company won a tender for the renovation of e-passport centers.

The company carried renovations at Murewa E-passport centre, Gweru e-passport centre where they are allegedly owing workers money.

They are currently in Beitbridge setting up another e-passport centre.

“They are buying expensive cars while they owe us. It’s not right. One of the managers has a BMW parked at the quantity surveyor’s house because he has run out of parking space at his house,” one of the aggrieved workers said.

He said he reported the company to the Labour Court, and the case will be heard on August 11.

One of the managers for Kingdom Five Zimbabwe Eddie Madzima confirmed that the workers and other sub-contracted companies have not been paid.

“We have a contract and the project is still ongoing,” Madzima said.

“There are a few individuals who have not been paid and we are still questioning the nature of their contracts.”

President Emmerson Mnangagwa launched the country’s e-passport in December.

Mnangagwa said the e-passports were designed to guarantee security for Zimbabweans and to reduce the country’s passport backlog. – Standard

Zanu PF Has Destroyed Independence Significance – President Chamisa

Tinashe Sambiri| CCC leader President Nelson Chamisa has accused the Zanu PF regime of trampling on the fundamental values of independence.

According to President Chamisa, Heroes Day celebrations have been marred by corruption, violence and gross abuse of human rights.

The carefree Zanu PF regime has reduced Zimbabweans to beggars.

“We can’t be a country where every youth wants to leave for overseas or neighboring countries. We’ve made our beautiful country so horrible on account of ugly politics Zimbabwe can’t a place of shame. We’re a place of pride & fame.A land of the gifted. This we will change. #Thistime,” President Chamisa wrote on his official Facebook page.

He added:
“AUGUST IS HEROES MONTH..But where is #uhuru when rights are being violated? Our liberation heroes did not sacrifice life and limb for the oppression and persecution of fellow Citizens. Our prayers and solidarity are with Our Citizens heroes and their families.Bail is a right!”

Police Arresting Women To Rape Them

At least 22 women are raped daily in Zimbabwe with an average of one rape taking place per 75 minutes translating to an average of 646 women being violated each month, according to the Zimbabwe Gender Commission.

Sunday News/Additional reporting

Mai Titi Apologises But Continues Accusing Husband

By Showbiz Reporter | The controversial ZANU PF activist Mai Titi on Saturday dropped an apology to Zimbabweans over her embarrassing relationship with her husband which has seen her pile of numerous accusations against Tinashe Maphosa.

The development comes at a time when Felistas Murata was struggling to handle her humiliation.

It all started last year when Mai Titi was dating a US based man only identified as ‘Shepherd,’ and was looking for a US visa, and the latter applied for her visitors permit. After this, Mai Titi told Shepherd she now has a visa, and the man said, no wait, this is not the right time. At this moment, Mai Titi announced she is carrying Shepherd’s pregnancy, but he didn’t have money for the ticket.

Shepherd’s sister purchased a plane ticket for her.

Upon arriving in the US, Mai Titi had a misunderstanding with the man and she moved out and changed relationships. She started dating Tinashe Maphosa.

At one time, Tinashe caught the woman talking with Shepherd over the phone and he was not happy with her.

After 3 weeks of starting a relationship with Tinashe, she swiftly got married with him.

She then afterwards, flew to Zimbabwe, and there was plan to get customarily married in Zimbabwe. He followed her to Zim for the lobola ceremony. After the lobola, Tinashe flew to Zimbabwe 3 months later for the wedding. Mai Titi prepared the whole wedding, according to her claim.

Mai Titi now accuses Tinashe of using her own money to get married, and most of the lobola, she scoffs at him saying he borrowed most of the lobola money. She spends hours filming herself on Facebook live making spectacle of him that he is not man enough to use his own money, most of it was borrowed.

Mai Titi says the wedding cost USD100,000 and from it she is claiming USD50,000. These claims have caused a misunderstanding.

Mai Titi has been going to different online platforms making several allegations such as that:

  1. Tinashe raped her many times; and that he even raped her during her menstruation.
  2. Tinashe Maphosa wanted to stab her with a kitchen knife.
  3. Tinashe Maphosa owes her USD50,000 from the wedding expenses.

THESE ARE THE AREAS ZIMEYE IS NOW INVESTIGATING WITH TINASHE MAPHOSA.

Mai Titi announced saying she is now a mission to destroy Tinashe Maphosa. She complains saying she was blocked from entering the US embassy when she tried to enter so she can report him to the ambassador. She launched a hashtag titled, #Tinashemustfall.

Speaking to ZimEye, Mr Maphosa answered explaining why he had to record audio conversations with his wife, saying he had discovered that she lies.

As we prepare for the grand interview, ZimEye presents the audios of Tinashe with Mai Titi’s UK based aunt, only known as, Mildred.

BELOW IS MAI TITI’S APOLOGY:

“I want to take this time to apologize to all my dear fans who have been with me and for me from the beginning till now.

“I’m not perfect because I’m only human thts why you see each time when provoked I go to the extreme with my anger.

“I don’t know how to control my anger and I end up saying things I do not want to expose ending up exposing myself in the process.
I’m someone who builds other people be it business, charity work, assisting people etc. I even counsel other people s marital problems and I do not encourage divorce or women to disrespect their husbands, yet I’m not in a perfect marriage myself but I never tell people do as I do but I always say do as I say . I’m judged a lot because I’m outspoken and all my life I defend myself and my defense is very brutal at some point it alway leave people thinking I’m always wrong because I lose control.
I’m not going to justify myself because i know sometimes I go overboard with my emotions and can’t take everything I say back .
The story that is so trending about my marriage has been twisted in a lot of ways now people are divided and have their opinions about the truth that nobody really knows till now . I have been trying to shut up but my husband kept poking me and started this war on social media. I never meant to come and wash my dirty linen in public because I respected this marriage because it took a lot from me and I sacrificed a lot for it to stand . I curse myself now , regrett why I did not leave when I had the chance but honestly you will never understand how I will be made to believe it will work.

“I ve been really deep about things wich were meant to be swept under the carpet but because of the pressure I couldn’t hold it anymore. Of course as usual I’m blamed for everything that happens to me but Godknows I try and I truly give my all in trying to make things work. My heart is too big and too tolerating it always lands me to regret. So many things I regrett right now but also so many things I learned because we learn from every mistake we make

“This story that everyone wants a piece of is already out but the truth is still not out . I’m in a position were even I keep quiet it’s too late but rather let me say the truth so it sets me free . In the meantime I can only say people are entitled to their own opinions so I can’t oppose anything at the moment. Just like my husband is gathering things to ruin what I have worked for I’m also gathering everything from the beginning to the end . As it stands he sent summons to shut me up but I will not be silenced by someone who brought our marriage issues on social media whilst I was trying to protect it knowing how it was going to blow .
That brings me back to when you start a war do not now expect the other to sit back whilst you punch them anyhow. I had told him to stop doing all he s doing but he knows social media is were my bread is battered and he wants to ruin everything for me.

“He knows that’s were people trend by insulting me hence he s everywhere trying to make sure brings me to my knees.

“I’m still going to come out and say everything because the dirty linen has already been washed a quarter of it.

“If he was a true man he would come and talk things out but he decided to take it to my workplace wich is a no go area. I ve worked so hard for my brand for someone to just come and take the last breath of me . This will be one of the numerous mistakes I made but certainly I won’t allow it to finish me off.

“I apologize to everyone who have been affected by this situation but ey life is a jungle either you eat or you be eaten .
Coming soon ? “

Gunners Overpower Crystal Palace

A first-half header by Gabriel Martinelli and an own goal by Marc Guehi gave Arsenal a 2-0 win over Crystal Palace on opening night of the 2022/23 Premier League season.

Mikel Arteta’s team lost last season’s corresponding fixture 3-0 away to Palace, but this was a strong start to the campaign by an Arsenal side that has improved over the summer.

Gabriel Jesus made his official debut for his new team and was sharp from early on, but it was fellow Brazilian Martinelli who opened the scoring after 19 minutes, heading home following a well-worked corner involving Oleksandr Zinchenko.

Palace pushed hard for an equaliser and forced Aaron Ramsdale into a number of saves, but Arsenal killed the game five minutes from the end when Bukayo Saka’s cross was diverted into the back of the net by the head of Guehi.- Sporting News

They Can’t Remove Us-Mnangagwa

Own Correspondent|The Zanu PF leader Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa has declared that he is not going anywhere.

Mr Mnangagwa made the remarks at the burial of Brigadier- General ( Retired) Benjamin Mabenge.

Brigadier- General Mabenge was buried at the National Heroes Acre in Harare on Wednesday.

“The Second Republic is well aware of the machinations by detractors who are fighting us on the economic front. They will never succeed and we will never ever surrender,” Mr Mnangagwa said.

In response CCC deputy spokesperson Gift Ostallos Siziba posted on Facebook :
“This is what they’re scared of- an election in the face of surging opposition support on one hand and a decomposing zanupf, its elite contradictions, social crisis & a centre failing to hold on the other hand.

It is therefore natural for the Citizens forge ahead.”

Gvt Okays US$ Fees

By A Correspondent- Government has given greenlight for schools to charge fees in United States (US) dollars, leading to calls for formal dollarisation as the majority of the country’s workforce earn in Zimbabwe dollars.

This follows a public outcry among parents after schools withheld end of term results for thousands of pupils who failed to pay their fees in full for the second term which ended on Thursday.

Some schools were demanding outstanding fees in US$, arguing that they had been eroded by inflation which climbed to 256,9% last month, from 191,65% in June.

Primary and Secondary Education ministry spokesperson Taungana Ndoro said schools could charge fees in United States dollars to recoup operational costs

“Some parents have been disregarding reminders by school authorities to pay school fees. So those parents who have their children’s results withheld should go and engage school authorities and discuss the way forward,” he said.

“It is justifiable for schools to demand the fees arrears according to the prevailing interbank rate. Schools can charge the fees in foreign currency and accept forex from parents, but in accordance with the prevailing interbank rate. However, schools must not force parents to pay in foreign currency exclusively.”

A latest survey by the Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency (ZimStat) said parents and guardians could no longer afford paying school fees, with only 26% able to meet education expenses for their children, as poverty levels in the country remain high.

School heads have also been refusing to register Ordinary and Advanced Level Zimbabwe School Examinations Council candidates who had not paid their fees in full.

Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe president Takavafira Zhou said giving schools the greenlight to peg fees in US dollars was a recipe for disaster for workers earning in Zimbabwe dollars.

“Since the government is saying it has not yet dollarised, it must not allow schools to charge in forex. What it means is the government has totally lost control over the education sector,” Zhou said.

Zimbabwe National Union of School Heads president Munyaradzi Majoni said: “This is a clear admission that the US$ is the only practical currency.”

Yesterday, the Consumer Council of Zimbabwe (CCZ) said a family of five now required $281 000 a month to survive, up from $240 000 in June as the local currency tumbles and prices of basics and services skyrocket.

According to CCZ acting executive director Rosemary Mpofu, the food basket increased by 21,53% from June to July 2022.

“The cost of living continues to go up as highlighted by the July consumer basket,” Mpofu said. “The cost of living, as measured by the CCZ’s low-income urban earners’ monthly basket for a family of six, increased from the end of June figure of $240 014,45 to $281 062,83 by end of July 2022, showing an increase of $41 048.”

Economists warned citizens to brace for more price hikes, with the price of bread set to go up again after the Grain Marketing Board increased the price of wheat by 30%.

Economist Gift Mugano said: “There is a need for the government to remove distortions in foreign exchange and gold markets by liberalising the exchange rates. For the avoidance of doubt, as long as there are distortions, it is clear that any policy prescribed around the same market will fail.

“Government must place emphasis on the commodity exchange as an effective vehicle for financing and market of agricultural commodities as opposed to the current arrangement where the financing and marketing of agricultural commodities is largely in the hands of the government.

Shock As Mourners Engage In S*x On Top Of Grave

Arsenal Bury Palace

Sekhukhune United Fired Me For Refusing To Use Muthi- Kapini

Veteran Zimbabwean goalkeeper Tapuwa ‘Campos’ Kapini has sensationally claimed that he was dismissed by DStv Premiership side Sekhukhune United for comments he made telling other players that he doesn’t believe in juju.

The former Warriors captain was released by Babina Noko at the end of last season.

Speaking for the first time about the way he was released by the club, on Marawa Sports Worldwide, Kapini bemoaned the lack of respect and unfair treatment by the Kempton Park-based side.

“The Sekhukhune United chapter, my heart is still sore. I remember when we were playing TS Galaxy, there was an issue,” said Kapini.

“We lost 1-0 and a certain player blamed it on the use of muthi. So as the captain I had to respond and I did. I openly told him he can’t blame muthi for a mistake. If it was a mistake he should own up and say I’m sorry I made a mistake.

“It was on a Saturday when we lost and on Sunday I was relaxing after coming back from the gym. Then on Monday morning, our manager sent me a text telling not to come to training.

“I was surprised because I didn’t know if I had done anything wrong, I even told my wife Sandra about it. They then called me to the office.

“Then Mr Madisha (Football Manager) and Mr Tshepo Malepo came and they told me I had said something that was not taken well by the players in the changing room after the loss to TS Galaxy.

“I told them I said what I said in front of everyone and even the coaches were there. You cannot believe in muthi. Its there but if you go into the firld of play conmitted, then you won’t be affected by that. The player in question missed a sitter and blamed it on muthi and that is why I was fuming.

“I said muthi doesn’t work in football and told them openly for that matter. I was told an investigation into what I said would be conducted because my words offended other players.

“I then stopped going to training as per the club’s orders until the ‘investigation’ was complete.

“Then at the end of the season, the unthinkable happened. As a senior player, I expect that the same way I joined the club, and signed a contract at their office, is the same I would be released, respectfully.

“I expected the club to tell me face to face that my services are no longer required because there are now young goalkeepers, not to be told through a WhatsApp message that I’m no longer a Sekhukhune player because I said I don’t believe in muthi.

“That is the way I was dismissed by the club and until now, not even the chairman has called me. I played 18 games and kept 13 clean sheets, ten in a row, for the same team that dismissed me through a WhatsApp message for saying I don’t believe in muthi,” added Kapini.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

What Is Chronic Hepatitis?

Reduce new infections of hepatitis B and C by 90%;
Reduce hepatitis related deaths from liver cirrhosis and cancer by 65%;
Ensure that at least 90% of people with hepatitis B and C virus are diagnosed; and
At least 80% of those eligible receive appropriate treatment.

Warrant Of Arrest For Ailing Mary Mubaiwa After Failing To Climb Stairs

By A Correspondent- Human rights lawyer Beatrice Mtetwa wept in court yesterday after Vice President Constantino Chiwenga’s ex-wife, Marry Mubaiwa was issued with a warrant of arrest for failing to climb stairs to the courtroom due to ill health.

Mubaiwa was meant to appear in court on charges of attempting to kill Chiwenga.

She applied for exception of the charges saying the Zimbabwe courts had no jurisdiction over the alleged crime which occurred in neighbouring South Africa,

Mtetwa asked magistrate Florence Chakanyuka to deliver her ruling on Mubaiwa’s application saying her client was seriously ill, and could not make it to the courtroom from her vehicle that was parked outside.

The human rights lawyer asked the court to adjourn and assess her condition outside before giving a ruling.

Mtetwa said she brought Mubaiwa to court despite her state because she was once issued with an arrest warrant while she was admitted in hospital. She had to be brought to court on a stretcher bed.

Prosecutor George Manokore did not oppose Mtetwa’s application to assess Mubaiwa’s health condition.

But Chakanyuka, after adjourning the matter, returned to say there were no provisions for the court to go outside the courtroom to assess Mubaiwa’s condition and issued an arrest warrant.

Willard Katsande Calls It A Day

Willard Katsande is set to retire from professional football and be named a brand ambassador for Sekhukhune United.

The Zimbabwean midfielder was omitted from the Sekhukhune squad for the 2022/23 season that was announced on Wednesday.

The 36-year-old was last month asked to retire but the decision was delayed after the club struggled to find a worthy replacement in the midfield.

According to reports in South Africa, Katsande has decided to hang up his boots and take the administration role.

The player joined Babina Noko from Kaizer Chiefs at the beginning of last season and made eighteen appearances to help the club fight to survive the chop in the DStv Premiership in their maiden season.

At Chiefs, he spent ten years where he won two league titles, the Nedbank Cup and the MTN8.

Katsande also played for the now-defunct Ajax Cape Town for a year after joining the side from Zimbabwe.

Tinashe Maphosa, Mai Titi Update

By Simba Chikanza | The following is a summary of the circumstances around the celebrity Mai Titi (Felistas Murata) who has raised several allegations against her estranged husband, Tinashe Maphosa.

Mai Titi was dating a US based man only known as Shepherd, and was looking for a US visa, and the latter applied for her visitors permit. After this, Mai Titi told Shepherd she now has a visa, and the man said, no wait, this is not the right time. At this moment, Mai Titi announced she is carrying Shepherd’s pregnancy, but he didn’t have money for the ticket.

VIDEO LOADING BELOW

https://youtu.be/ITkIua_Zbw4

Mai Titi now accuses Tinashe of using her own money to get married, and most of the lobola, she scoffs at him saying he borrowed most of the lobola-money. She spends hours filming herself on Facebook-live making a spectacle of him that he is not man enough to use his own money, most of it was borrowed.

Mai Titi says the wedding cost USD100,000 and from it she is claiming USD50,000 in refunds.

Mai Titi announces saying she is now on a mission to destroy Tinashe Maphosa.

As we prepare for the full grand interview, ZimEye presents the audios of Tinashe with Mai Titi’s UK based aunt, only known as, Mildred. ALL EXCLUSIVE UPDATES ON TINASHE MAPHOSA WILL BE PUBLISHED HERE ON ZIMEYE

Earthquake Hits Kariba

An earthquake of magnitude M4.3 occurred and was felt in the Kariba and surrounding areas at 22:03 hours (10PM) on 2 August 2022.

The epicentre was triangulated by the Meteorological Services Department (MSD) of Zimbabwe to approximately 50km South of Kariba Dam near Bumi Hills. Although this is a naturally active seismic area, it started experiencing increased seismicity after the filling of Lake Kariba in the 1960s. Accordingly, the earthquakes are normal and expected. They are referred to as “reservoir-induced tremors” because they are attributed to the presence of the lake.

In the last twelve months, two earthquakes of equivalent magnitudes and several others of smaller magnitudes occurred south of the Kariba Dam. Of note are magnitude M4.5 and M4.6 earthquakes that occurred on 9 August 2021 and 24 May 2022, with epicentres near Binga and below the Lake respectively.

We wish to assure the public and those domiciled in and around the affected areas that tremors of this magnitude are not expected to affect the structural integrity of the Kariba Dam. We further confirm that there were no unusual observations made from the inspections that were carried out on the morning of 3rd August 2022 nor from the analysis of dam safety data that is collected from several instruments that monitor the behaviour of the dam.

Chido Sanyatwa represents Nyanga North in parliament on a Zanu PF ticket.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has been invited to be the guest of honour at the wedding which will take place at the Roman Catholic Church’s Regina Coeli Mission.

Chido confirmed the wedding when contacted for comment by NewsDay. She said:

Yes, the wedding is on tomorrow and I am encouraging drivers to be cautious on our roads. Preparations are at an advanced stage.

Sanyatwe, who is Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to Tanzania, flew into the country this week from Dar es Salaam ahead of the wedding.

Top army officials and Zanu PF bigwigs are set to attend the wedding.

Sanyatwe married Chido under traditional custom in 2000 before having a court wedding in 2004.

Both are members of the Roman Catholic Church and according to the rules of the church, they need to have a white wedding in the church.

As commander of the Presidential Guard, Sanyatwe was the tactical commander of the force deployed on 1 August 2018 to disperse protestors who were demonstrating over the perceived delay in announcing the results of the 30 July elections.

The soldiers used live ammunition on fleeing protestors and innocent bystanders resulting in the death of six and injuries to dozens.

In February 2019, Sanyatwe retired from the military and was appointed ambassador to Tanzania in the same month.

In 2020, the United States imposed sanctions on Sanyatwe and on former State Security minister Owen Ncube, accusing them of human rights abuses.

Mavaza: Chamisa A Dictator In Waiting

By Dr Masimba Masimba | Many Zimbabweans have been laying into the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC).
Joined by many democratic countries, their disdain for the CCC’s approach to party governance and next year’s crunch elections, is based with the way the CCC is being run. It is a true replica of dictatorship and this has costed them some support from their original handlers. The absence of clearly laid out structures or a constitution has put CCC and Chamusa in the group of a dictatorship led party.

As a democratically elected leader, getting absolute power is no easy feat. Dictatorships are often characterised by some of the following: suspension of elections and civil liberties; proclamation of a state of emergency; rule by decree; repression of political opponents; not abiding by the rule of law procedures, and cult of personality.
Chamisa had managed to ring fence his ambitions by expanding his power base through nepotism and corruption and sexual favours. He has set a way to abuse his leadership for what ever he will do will not be in breach of any constitution since he does not have any constitution to respect. The question Zimbabweans should ask is What will Chamisa do once he is in the State house. His actions now demonstrate that if powerful he will always find ways to abuse his privileges. Be warned, though: You will eventually be rumbled, so corruption tends to work only in the short term. Will this be tje Zimbabwe we want where the president is not governed by any law. Where he does what he wishes whenever he does. Are we serious as Zimbabweans in even thinking that Chamisa should be voted into power.
Chamisa could not hold MDC together. Will he hold the nation together. Chamisa made sure to surround himself with loyal kin whom he can trust to do what’s best for him and his family.
The former minister of Higher Education and the brains behind CCC formation prof Moyo said he was being hard on the Nelson Chamisa-led outfit because it had positioned itself as the country’s main opposition party and alternative to ruling Zanu PF. In defending their aitocratic rule in CCC they said
“The CCC has resisted attempts to corner it into setting up party structures, maintaining their new strategy is bearing fruit and supporters will choose their representatives through their consensus.”
Chamisa has gone as far as blasting those pushing for structures, labelling them Zanu PF coaches. Ironically he said these words during a memorial service of a lawyer and an adent beliver in constitutionalism Alex Magaisa. It was not surprising because Chamisa has been known for turning any funeral into a power grab platform.
“Since CCC styles itself as the main opposition and the only democratic alternative in Zimbabwe; its constitution-less and structureless self raises public interest issues!” said Moyo in response to questions on why he was now against the party he helped to form. Obviously CCC was formed as an offshoot of a G40 but as greedy hamisa will prove Jonathan Moyo was to be sidelined together with anyone who poses as a threat to Nelson Chamisa.
Chamisa has Instigated a monopoly on the use of violence to attract international attention.
Party Dictators cannot survive for long without disarming the people and buttering up their executive.Yet democracies are not always more popular than dictatorships. In reality, members if the CCC prefer dictatorships because Chamisa has put the alternative is chaos. This explains the euphoria about Chamisa Chete Chete which a dictatorial slogan by nature.
Indeed, when given the choice in an experiment, people will desert an unstructured group (analogous to an anything-goes society) and seek the order of a “punishing leaderbwho knows it all alone. The lesson: Any aspiring dictator who restores order, even through coercion, is likely to earn the gratitude of his people. So Chamisa has earned the gratittude of the CCC members and he rules the party as his personal property. Can you imagine him as the president of Zimbabwe. God forbid.
Chamisa’s followers would always ask “Why are you going on and on about #CCC over its lack of a constitution and structures? Stop it”. And Prof Moyo said “Since #CCC styles itself as the main opposition and the only democratic alternative in Zimbabwe; its constitutionless & structureless self raises public interest issues”
Proffessor Moyo was last year touted as a likely addition to the CCC, having offered his services to train the party’s election agents on how to deal with possible rigging by Zanu PF.
The former Tsholotsho legislator had even offered to finance election agents in his former constituency as part of support for Chamisa and his CCC, then MDC Alliance.
Moyo was previously a strong proponent of change, using Chamisa’s hashtags and phrases but he has dumped all that and dismissed the popular #GodIsInIt phrase he had adopted. He has even suggested that the CCC be barred from running in future elections. The members of CCC executive were so much afraid of Moyo because he rendered their positions unsafe. Dor them to be believed by Chamisa they made him believe that there is no other leader but Chamisa.
Then Chamisa started to Curry favour by providing promising public goods efficiently and generously. He came up with tje plea” imbondipai nyika ino for one day inoerera uchi nemukaka. Benevolent dictatorship is being practised by Chamisa and his CCC. Chamisa believes that ordinary people could not be entrusted with power because it would corrupt them, he believes they must not even be allpwed to have a say in the runnings of their party. To that end he is refusing to have a constitution or simply guide lines. He is aware that economics is the major stabilizing force in society so he attacks Zimbabwean economy in order to starve the people of Zimbabwe to poverty. To this end, he effectively eliminated all opposition by using his foot leakers to expell thise suspected to ne against him. To implement his economic policies. CCC members are tolerating these restrictions on their freedom because they sre lied to that God is in it. The ways of a dictator are sleak. Chamisa hopes that his fake promises for restoring the economy and develop large infrastructural projects lile sparget roads will strengthen his power base. But he is forgeting that the Zimbabweans are now wiser. They work with what they can see.
Chamisa did try to Get rid of his political enemies and embreced some like Biti in the hope that the bear hug will neutralize them. So Chamisa has learnt to Keep his political enemies close to him.
Chamisa has resorted to Creating and defeating a common enemy Dictatorships feed on problems and other external help because these justify their existence. Chamisa would want the world to think that Zimbabwe is in serious trouble and is busy suppressing the descending voices. The truth of the matter is that a dictator in waiting will want to appear as a saviour.
More than half of 20th-century rulers engaged in battles at some point during their reign, either as aggressors or defenders. Among dictators, the proportion rises to 88 per cent. Democratic parties find this tactic more difficult to adopt because most wars are unpopular with voters. To attract support, the opposition must be perceived as a defender, not a warmonger
The point Chamisa is doing is to Start a war when your position as leader becomes insecure.

Chamisa is trying to Accumulate power by manipulating the hearts and minds of your citizens. Zimbabweans are being fooled by Chamisa even the Lunatic street pastor Chiwenga said it.
One of the first actions of any aspiring dictator should be to control the free flow of information, because it plugs a potential channel of criticism. So Chamisa is gifted by having the control of private media and has employed and deployed his click soldiers on Social media. He ha tUrned the social media into a propaganda machine for his CCC party like Hitler did. Democratically elected leaders of political parties are somewhat more restrained, but if they have enough powers, they can rig an election or do away with meddlesome journalists or, if money is no object, build their own media empire.
Unsurprisingly, these outlets and social media carefully manage Chamisa’s public image and shielded him from criticism. But Zimbabweans can nolonger be fooled. Aspiring dictators like Chamisa do realise that muzzling the media is most effective in an ordered society:
So Chamisa has been taught by his remaining handlers to Control the media or, even better, own the media. It’s as simple as that.
Like most dictators Chamisa has Created an ideology to justify an exalted position.
Throughout history, leaders have used or in some cases invented an ideology to legitimize their power. So Chamisa is trying to be both political leader and priest, who claimed to be communicating with the gods in order to bring about a victorioud election hence God is init mantra.
Conveniently, this ideology often passed as an explanation of why the Chamisa should occupy the role for life, and why the post should pass to his appointed person. Accordingly, this party CCC spends much time and effort talking about faith to give a formal structure to his power.
Dictatorship, or autocracy, is a system of ruling by one person with absolute power who has no legal restraints on his actions or decisions. He has no constitutional obligations to bind him. The term “dictatorship” comes from the Latin word “dictator”—a magistrate in the Roman Republic who was given absolute power for a short time to deal with a crisis.
A modern dictator is a national leader of a political system who wields absolute power in running his party. This does not fall very far from Chamisa.
The fear every Zimbabwean has is what will happen if Chamisa becomes the president. Hopewell Mbudzi yadhura CHIN’ONO will be the minister of information. Can you even begin to imagine what a nation under ten cruel Pharoes in one will Zimbabwe be.
The only way to stop a dictator like Chamisa from our government is to register to vote and vote for ZANU PF the party which fought for independence and freedom.

ANC Throws Foreigners Under The Bus

By James Gwati- The failing South African ruling African National Congress (ANC) party has joined that country’s opposition parties in an anti-foreign nationals campaign.

ANC shifted its position this week after its policy conference last week.

The party’s spokesperson Pule Mabe told his supporters during a protest against foreign nationals at Krugersdorp Magistrate’s Court accused of raping eight South African girls that people would pounce on foreigners.

“We have taken a decision as the ANC that today, we are going to join the picket line at Krugersdorp Magistrate Court. We have come to register our own concerns, frustrations and anger around the issues of undocumented illegal immigrants who continue to commit heinous crimes around the question of rape and illegal zama zamas. We felt that, we now need to elevator thus. We need to make sure that we influence national conversations around issues faced by our people.
” Our people are boiling and we can not garrantee the safety of these undocumented and illigal foreigners, ” he said.

His utterances resulted in the brutal rounding up and attacks on alleged illegal miners in Kagiso Thursday.

ANC is under pressure from its citizens for failing to deliver services.

The sinking revolutionary party has also failed to unite the nation because of corruption, nepotism and factionalism.

Red Devils Seek Redemption

Following their trophy drought and top 4 miss last season, Manchester United will be hoping to step up and challenge for honours when they kick off their 2022/23 season this weekend.

The Red Devils will begin their campaign at Old Trafford on Sunday against Brighton and Hove.

Kick-off is at 3 pm CAT.

SuperSport TV will broadcast the match live across the Sub-Saharan region.

Matchday One Team News
Anthony Martial, who performed well in the pre-season, could miss the 2022/23 season opener due to injury.

The France international was seen holding his leg after being substituted in Saturday’s 1-0 friendly defeat by Atletico Madrid in Oslo.

Luke Shaw returned to training on Wednesday after missing both the Atletico Madrid and Rayo Vallecano games last weekend, while fellow left-back and new signing Tyrell Malacia started against the former so could make his competitive debut.

New coach Erik Ten Hag
With a new coach – Erik ten Hag – in place, the Red Devils are hoping to use the coming campaign for squad remodeling and revive the fortunes.

Club legend Ole Gunnar Solskjær, who led the project for two terms, was fired in November after a poor run of results.

His interim replacement Ralf Rangnick failed to get a tune out of the squad and finished in a disappointing sixth place, 13 points away from the top four places.

Unhappy Cristiano wants out
Rumors of Cristiano Ronaldo looking for a move away for Champions League football somewhat overshadowed United’s pre-season.

Ronaldo had high level talks with the club last week on his return from a prolonged season break.

The Portuguese striker’s first pre-season friendly was against Rayo Vallecano on Sunday but had a bad first impression with ten Hag.

The 37-year-old left the match venue at half-time and his early departure was branded as unacceptable by the new coach.

New signings and departures
United have parted ways with players such as Paul Pogba, Edinson Cavani, Juan Mata, Andreas Pereira, Nemanja Matić, Alex Telles (loan), Dean Henderson and Jesse Lingard in this current transfer window.

Left back Tyrell Malacia was the first signing followed by Christian Eriksen and Argentinean international defender Lisandro Martinez.

United are still actively in the market and are on the lookout for a striker to replace Ronaldo if he moves on.

PSL Receives Complaints About Poor Officiating

The Premier Soccer League has finally broken silence on the series of complaints regarding match officiating in the local top-flight.

In the past few months, some teams have felt hard done by the poor officiating in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League, which has led to some games being abandoned and coaches getting fined for complaining.

The PSL leadership said the problem has come to their attention.

“The PSL has received official complaints from clubs regarding match officiating. We have forwarded these complaints to the Zimbabwe Football Association. We are confident that they will look into the matter,” PSL spokesperson Kudzai Bare said in a statement.

Last week at Baobab, Triangle coach Jairos Tapera stormed off the pitch in protest against Ngezi Platinum’s opener and bizarrely went to the ZTN commentary box, where he asked commentator Howard Musonza to see the replay.

Tapera has since been charged by the PSL.

“The PSL has charged Triangle United FC Coach Jairos Tapera for his inappropriate behaviour during their match against Ngezi Platinum Stars FC played at Baobab Stadium last Sunday.”- Soccer 24 Zimbabwe

What Is Hepatitis?

Reduce new infections of hepatitis B and C by 90%;
Reduce hepatitis related deaths from liver cirrhosis and cancer by 65%;
Ensure that at least 90% of people with hepatitis B and C virus are diagnosed; and
At least 80% of those eligible receive appropriate treatment.

Over 180 Nabbed Over Cross Border Crimes

By A Correspondent-The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has announced that it arrested 189 people on Sunday over cross-border crimes bringing the total number of people arrested since the launch of the operation code-named “No to Cross Border Crimes” to 169 139.

The operation was launched on the 1st of July 2021. The operation targets illegal border crossing, and smuggling.

Police have also advised that 124 people were arrested on Sunday under the operation, “No to machete gangs” bringing the cumulative arrests since January this year to 33 764.

Meanwhile, police national spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi has urged motorists to be cautious this Heroes and Defense Forces holiday to avoid road traffic accidents. Nyathi said:

The police are in full force to ensure that motorists observe road regulations during the holiday as there is increased movement. The holiday started on a bad note, but we do not want to lose more lives because of reckless drivers. Transport operators should ensure that their vehicles are road worthy so that they do not put travellers at risk.

Passengers should know that they have a right to report drivers who will be breaking road regulations. This is one way that accidents can be avoided. The public should work together with the police to ensure we avoid accidents and the loss of lives.

The holiday starts on a sad note after five people died in an accident which occurred along the Harare-Masvingo highway on Saturday when a Nissan Note vehicle collided with a truck.

Police Says They Are Fair In Banning CCC Rallies

Police claim they have been fair in implementing provisions of the Maintenance of Peace and Order Act (Mopa), and have instead blamed opposition parties and civic society organisations (CSOs) of failing to adhere to the Act’s provisions when applying to hold rallies or protests.

On several occasions, police have blocked opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) rallies and planned protests by CSOs.

Ruling Zanu-PF party events have, however, never been barred or disrupted.

National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi told NewsDay that some of the reasons opposition rallies and protests by CSOs are barred included their failure to employ marshals, and to stick to scheduled times, which police believe pose security threats.

Nyathi also said the opposition and CSOs were failing to advise local residents of their planned events.

“There is a difference between notifying and working on the security modalities with the police, if you are to go by Mopa,” he said.

“There are certain parameters which conveners of meetings, public gatherings and demonstrations have to comply with on their part. Merely notifying does not mean that a person has fulfilled all the conditions that are outlined under Mopa. The public must be adequately advised on the security measures they have put in place when they want to do some of these gatherings in consideration of the rights of others. It is not just a matter of notifying and ending there. There are security considerations that have to be made by the conveners. When they go to the police and are told that they have not met these security considerations, they start complaining.”

Last week, police used Mopa to ban a CCC event in Glen Norah, where the party’s local legislator Wellington Chikombo wanted to celebrate his March 26 by-election victory.

Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition (CiZC) had also planned a protest on July 22, but it was stopped under Mopa.

CiZC president Peter Mutasa said: “We submitted our notification after engaging a group of law experts to craft the notification to ensure that we did not err. But we failed, despite that which shows that the law enforcement officer wants to effect a blanket ban on protests. Section 8 of Mopa allows for negotiation and consultation of the concerned party with the police. The law appreciates that not every ordinary person could be fully cognisant of it.”

The opposition CCC feels that Mopa was now a new tool of oppression.

Party spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere said: “It’s not correct that we do not adhere to the requirements of Mopa. Rather, when we do invoke the provisions of this statute, we are met with flimsy reasons for the banning of our rallies such as the fact that there isn’t enough manpower or misrepresentations, and that someone else is using our chosen venue when this is not true.

“What is beyond doubt is that the playing field is not free and fair, but that will not stop us from escalating our nationwide mass mobilisation programmes.”

Mutsvangwa Called To Order For Defending ED Over Susan Mutami Allegations

By Tendai Mbofana| I never desire to wade into these sexual indiscretion scandals, or sexual abuse accusations, which have hounded well-known Zimbabwean leaders of late – both from the ruling and opposition formations – since, I vehemently believe these are matters largely based either on allegations (and, requiring substantiated evidence), or are of a legal nature, whose outcome should be determined by the criminal justice system.

I have a strong aversion to running to conclusions on any issue, unless and until incontrovertible proof, which is beyond any reason doubt, is presented before me – and as such, make it a point of principle not to publicly express my personal opinions on any subject I am not absolutely sure about.

Nonetheless, it becomes my business, and the rest of the country’s citizenry, when such emotive issues – which either expose a lack of self-control, moral integrity, and trustworthiness, as well as having the potential of being pure criminality – are treated with frivolity and flippancy, as if they were of no consequence or even a big sick joke.

Let it be clear that, how one behaves in their private life, has a most significant impact and bearing on the concerned individual’s or perpetrator’s suitability for an office of responsibility and leadership.

That is why, on 19 December 1998, the then US (United States of America) president William J. Clinton was formally impeached by his country’s House of Representatives – although, later acquitted by Senate – for his romantic encounters with White House intern, Monica Lewinsky, between 1995 and 1997.

As much as these were consensual, the fact that this was a married man committing acts of adultery, seriously jeopardized his good standing, and made him unsuitable for a position of leadership – that carries with it high standards of integrity, and should be bound by exceptional levels of virtue.

Besides, why should a nation trust someone who cannot even remain faithful to his or her sacred vows of marriage, and cannot be depended upon to fulfil his or her promises, or be committed to values of honesty – since, such untrustworthiness can easily be transfered to his or her work ethics?

Therefore, it would be the height of disingenuousness for anyone to attempt to trivialize, or even outrightly dismiss and disparage any such allegations of sexual indiscretions, or sexual abuse – whether these have been substantiated or not.

No matter whom these allegations have been made against – the gravity of their significance can never be taken lightly – especially, being based on one’s political leanings.

Which is the most disturbing scenario we worryingly witness in Zimbabwe, as these accusations are either readily accepted or rejected purely premised on which political entity made them, or against a culprit from which side.

So, if the person being accused is from my political party, the allegations have to be false and baseless – most likely the work of political opponents.

And, if the victim is from my political party, then the allegations have to be true, and accepted at face value.

If this is how we are to deal with issues of such magnitude, then we are in serious trouble as Zimbabweans – and, exposes immaturity of the lowest order.

And, if the victim is from my political party, then the allegations have to be true, and accepted at face value.

If this is how we are to deal with issues of such magnitude, then we are in serious trouble as Zimbabweans – and, exposes immaturity of the lowest order.

For instance, the most recent shocking utterances by the ruling ZANU PF spokesperson Chris Mutsvangwa – in response to damning accusations made by Australian-based socialite, Susan Mutami, to the effect that she was repeatedly sexually violated by Zimbabwe President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, from the age of 15 years – cannot go unchallenged.

Instead of either keeping his mouth firmly shut, and refusing to comment on a matter whose details he may not be well informed – Mutsvangwa elected to ridicule the claims, by wondering why a huge deal was being made over the matter, yet “even trees and birds had sex”!

Need he be reminded that, these serious allegations are to do with sexual abuse, and were never based on consensual encounters, considering that the law frowns upon those who commit statutory rape – which is now regarded as pure rape, as she was supposedly still under the age of sexual consent.

Needless to say, even had these been consensual – between two agreeable adults, as we witnessed with the Clinton-Lewinsky case, when one of the parties was married – this still translates into gross immorality and untrustworthiness, that is not to be expected from a person occupying a position of authority.

For Mutsvangwa to dismiss the rape claims, out of hand, as insignificant, inconsequential, and even comedic – since the country had other more pressing matters to attend to, such as economic development – smacks of gross arrogance, and an affront on the broader fight against gender-based violence and sexual abuse…a scourge that has torn apart the fabric of our society as Zimbabweans.

What, then, does this say about the ruling party itself, and the government as a whole – with regard their perception of sexual violence?

Maybe, this is a silly question – considering that this is the same entity that was severely enraged, after a May 1996 movie depicting the country’s armed liberation struggle, ‘Flame’, captured the rape of female combatants by male ZANLA guerrillas.

Yet, these were real events that took place – with some female war veterans having even confided in me about what happened to them during the war – and, therefore, should never be ignored, denied, or swept under the carpet.

What more, this is the same regime that has been severally accused of using sexual violence as a weapon against female opposition activists.

Why, then, should we be particularly shocked when a very senior ruling party official – in fact, not just any official, but the face and voice of ZANU PF – pokes fun at grave allegations of sexual abuse at the hands of their own leader?

Any party that wants to be taken seriously by the citizenry should have expressed their disapproval and disgust of any incidents of sexual abuse, or at the very least, refused to be dragged into this issue, and distanced themselves from the matter.

By choosing to turn this into a comic matter – exposes a deep-rooted sickening trait within the psyche of the ruling party in Zimbabwe.

How, then, is the country expected to come out of the ravenous demon of sexual abuse, with such people in power?

Zanu Pf MP Survives Road Accident

By A Correspondent- Zanu-PF Mutasa South legislator Misheck Mugadza survived a road accident on Wednesday afternoon after his vehicle was involved in a head on collision with a haulage truck in Macheke, Mashonaland East province.

He was on his way to Harare.

Mashonaland East deputy police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Misheck Denhere confirmed the accident to NewsDay yesterday.

“I can confirm the accident, but I cannot give you finer details because I am out of office,” Denhere said

Mugadza, who is also a Zanu-PF Manicaland provincial member, is reportedly admitted at West End Hospital in the capital.

Zanu-PF Mutare District Coordination Committee chairperson Binali Yard yesterday said Mugadza’s condition was stable.

“Mugadza was involved in a road accident with a haulage truck, but he is in a stable condition,” Yard said.

“We are overwhelmed by the number of people who want to find out how Mugadza is copying after the accident.”

Mugadza won the Mutasa South constituency after defeating Citizens Coalition for Change candidate Regai Tsunga in the March 26 by-elections.

The seat had fallen vacant after Tsunga was recalled from Parliament by then MDC-T leader Douglas Mwonzora.

Meanwhile, national police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi yesterday said there had been a 22% increase in road accidents since the beginning of this year.

Officiating at the launch of the Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe (TSCZ) Heroes and Defence Forces Safety campaign, Nyathi said:  “There is need for change of mindset if we are to achieve road safety. The country has had a 22% increase in road accidents since the beginning of the year, with 2 480 hit and run accidents resulting in people getting injured and loss of life taking place.”

TSCZ chairperson Kura Sibanda urged motorists to minimise accidents during the holidays.

“As we launch the 2022 Heroes Holiday Road Safety Campaign, we do so under the shadow of a dark cloud, which is a stark reminder of why we should redouble our efforts to arrest the carnage on our roads. A week ago, six people died after two heavy vehicles collided along the Masvingo Highway,” Sibanda said.

He said the Highway Code would be translated into Shona and Ndebele.

By A Correspondent- United Zimbabwe Alliance (UZA) President Elisabeth Valerio has said the recently announced Budget Review statement fell short of expectations as it failed to address the key economic fundamentals fueling inflation.

She said:

“The economy has self dollarised and institutions have debased their budgets to USD using the official exchange rate resulting in over priced services in USD.

The minister was expected to make policy announcements about how government will address the chaos.”

Bloodbath In South Africa As ANC “Approves” Xenophobia

By James Gwati- The failing South Africa’s ruling African National Congress (ANC) party has joined that country’s opposition parties in criminalising foreign nationals.

Pule Mabe, ANC national spokesperson

ANC shifted its position this week after its policy conference last week.

The party’s spokesperson Pule Mabe told his supporters during a protest against foreign nationals at Krugersdorp Magistrate’s Court accused of raping eight South African girls that people would pounce on foreigners.

“We have taken a decision as the ANC that today (Wednesday), we are going to join the picket line at Krugersdorp Magistrate Court. We have come to register our own concerns, frustrations and anger around the issues of undocumented illegal immigrants who continue to commit heinous crimes around the question of rape and illegal zama zamas. We felt that, we now need to elevator thus we need to make sure that we influence national conversations around issues faced by our people.

Earthquake Shakes Kariba

By-An earthquake has hit By-Kariba and its surrounding areas.

The Meteorological Services Department (MSD) of Zimbabwe estimates that the epicentre was approximately 50km South of Kariba Dam near Bumi Hills.

In a statement, MSD said earthquakes were a common phenomenon in the area.

Reads the statement:

Mnangagwa Turns To HH For Economic Rescue

By-The Emerson Mnangagwa administration is now focusing on Zambia for assistance to resurrect the suffocating economy.

The state media reports that Mnangagwa’s envoy to Zambia, Charity Charamba, is in diplomatic talks with Lusaka for business collaborations.

Harare wants local firms, including small to medium enterprises (SMEs), to trade, with Zambia.

Speaking in an interview after more than 30 Zimbabwean firms took part at the 94th Zambia Agriculture and Commercial Show (ZACS), which ended on Monday, Ambassador Charamba said local firms must take advantage of the proximity between the two countries as well as the fact that both countries are members of SADC and COMESA.
Trade development and promotion body, ZimTrade, facilitated the participation of the local firms and because of the high level of organisation and the quality of products on display, the Zimbabwe Pavillion was awarded the Best Recognition to International Exhibit.
Winning the award, according to Ambassador Charamba, was “a thumbs up for Zimtrade and the country at large”.

“We are excited but at the same time, it actually underscores that our products are highly competitive,” said Ambassador Charamba.
Some of the local products on display included those from large firms such as Dairibord, Tanganda, Cairns, Zimplow, Agricura, Windmill, AE Electricals, and Turnall as well as those from small to medium enterprises such as Good Hope Leather Products, Das Foods, Millenium Footwear, Bernard Remegious, and Triple Tee Footwear.
Ambassador Charamba said the participation of local firms shows that as a country “we have identified markets here.”
She said some of the visitors and buyers that came to the Zimbabwe Pavilion “had actually indicated that they want our companies to set up base in Zambia”.

ZEC Rejects CCC Dialogue Request

By-The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has turned down the opposition CCC’s calls for bilateral dialogue on alleged electoral malpractices.

Last Wednesday, the CCC wrote to ZEC requesting dialogue to address its concerns over the electoral body’s alleged lack of impartiality in discharging its mandate.

However, ZEC spokesperson Jasper Mangwana said they only recognised talks on electoral issues under the multi-party liaison committees. Mangwana tweeted:

Electoral malpractices are an offence in terms of the Electoral Act. They can be corrected by making a report for investigation to the police, Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission and the National Peace and Reconciliation Commission where a docket should be opened for prosecution.

Alternatively, any aggrieved party is at liberty to approach the Electoral Court for redress.

ZEC is always open to dialogue with all its stakeholders using the multi-party liaison committees (MPLCs) which are decentralised to all 10 provinces and 63 districts.

ZEC does not meet individual stakeholders at the exclusion of others. MPLCs are the dialogue vehicle for electoral issues.

Dialogue is a central part of ZEC’s mandate provided it is inclusive of all stakeholders.

CCC spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere challenged Mangwana’s assertions saying there is no law that prohibits ZEC from engaging in an exclusive dialogue with the party raising issues of concern. Said Mahere:

ZEC is a constitutional commission that has a constitutional obligation to consult all stakeholders and receive complaints from the public and respond to them accordingly.

They have a peremptory legal duty to address the concerns of the citizens whether in a bilateral or multilateral process.

There is no law prohibiting it from engaging bilaterally on electoral concerns. This is the basis upon which we have engaged them and submitted a detailed dossier containing empirical and wide-ranging evidence of electoral manipulation which irregularities they have previously claimed they were unaware of.

This is all in the spirit of driving the electoral reform agenda and ensuring that we do not have another disputed, problematic election in 2023.

ZEC has in the past dismissed allegations of rigging elections in ZANU PF’s favour and has demanded evidence from disgruntled parties to back their claims.

Chinese Embassy Becomes First Ever To Defend Crimes

The Chinese ambassador to Zimbabwe, Guo Shaochun, yesterday became the first ever to defend its citizens’s crimes.

The ambassador to Zimbabwe, Guo Shaochun, yesterday shot down claims of abuse of workers by Chinese employers, describing the conflicts as “mere misunderstanding and cultural clashes”.
There have, however, been several reports of physical abuse of workers at Chinese-owned companies while mine workers have complained about low wages being paid at Chinese operations.

Addressing the media yesterday, Guo said Chinese employers were doing everything above the law, adding that the “few” incidents were fuelled by misunderstanding.

“Most Chinese employers keep good relationships with local workers. Some allegations of improper practices by a few Chinese employers are mainly because of misunderstanding or cultural differences. The embassy’s position is clear that all Chinese companies are encouraged to do more for local people and must comply with the laws, regulations, culture and customs of the host country,” Guo said.

He called for strengthening of relations between foreign investors and locals must be strengthened.

“Wrongdoers must be held accountable. The embassy also encourages and supports the Zimbabwean government, the media, local communities and other stakeholders in promoting mutual understanding and good relations between Chinese employers and local workers,” he said.

“For years, Chinese companies have not only created thousands of local jobs, but also actively conducted their social responsibilities for the local communities by building hospitals, schools and roads, drilling boreholes and donating foodstuffs.”

The embassy also refuted claims that Chinese businesses do not bank money in the country and write their invoices in Mandarin to avoid paying taxes.

“Chinese companies have been investing in and growing with Zimbabwe for years. They have created thousands of local jobs, increased the country’s tax revenues and forex inflows, upskilled local workers and generated business opportunities for local companies.

“Our basic position is clear. All businesses, including those from China, must comply with the laws and regulations in the host country. Wrongdoers must be held accountable. We support Zimbabwe in strengthening its regulatory framework and law enforcement,” Guo added.

“We call for compliance monitoring teams composed of government officials, local councillors, and community representatives to be set up in foreign-invested companies. If anyone finds the possible wrongdoings of Chinese companies in Zimbabwe, he or she is welcome to file official complaints to the relevant Zimbabwean authorities, but we suggest such complaints consist of necessary basic elements.” Newsday

The reality of your country is that we need Change!

Young peoples whose future has been ruined must focus on this one most important task- the task to win our country for change.

The regime has mutated into different forms and units to try and destroy the authentic opposition.

We have seen them and we have defeated them before.

The leadership question of who is who in the Alternative was long resolved.

It’s all about genuine and authentic leadership.

All hands on the deck.

Unity is key- it remains the only buffer against perennial intrusion and political decay.

Mnangagwa Jets Into Moza

Emmerson Mnangagwa today joins Sadc regional leaders for a high-level meeting that will culminate in the signing of a declaration providing for the protection of indigenous forests from rapid exploitation.

The President arrived last night to attend the High-Level Session of the Regional Conference on Sustainable and Integrated Management of Miombo forests.

He was welcomed at Maputo International Airport by Mozambican Foreign Affairs and Co-operation Minister Verónica Macamo and Zimbabwean Ambassador to Mozambique Victor Matemadanda.

Environment, Climate, Tourism and Hospitality Industry Minister Mangaliso Ndlovu was already in Maputo as part of an advance delegation.

President Mnangagwa was accompanied by Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister, Ambassador Frederick Shava, and Deputy Chief Secretary in the Office of the President and Cabinet (Presidential Communications) Mr George Charamba.

In an interview, Forestry Commission general manager Mr Abedinigo Marufu said the conference will culminate in the signing of a binding declaration enjoining parties to the agreement, to protect the Miombo woodlands.

Miombo woodlands are tropical and subtropical grasslands, savannas, and shrublands biome located primarily in Central Africa.

“We are talking about management of our indigenous forests; you know we have been talking about planting trees, primarily exotic trees,” said Mr Marufu.

He said Mozambique President Filipe Nyusi came up with an idea to look after the Miombo woodlands.

“These are woodlands where we have trees such as Munondo, Musasa and Mupfuti, among many others.

“In Zimbabwe, if you go to the Mashonaland provinces you will see vast areas of those woodlands, which provide livelihoods to communities.”

Mr Marufu said Miombo woodlands were fast disappearing on account of deforestation.

In Zimbabwe, a lot of tobacco farmers are using Musasa trees to cure tobacco, he said, resulting in the loss of vast forests.

“So the (SADC) region — nine countries that are here which have got those species — is discussing how we can manage those trees which are very good for our bio-diversity.

“Our forests are also good for tourism so we want to protect them. We want to grow them and make sure that we deal with climate change.

“So this is a grouping of like-minded countries, including Zimbabwe, who are saying let’s come together and sign a declaration which is what we came here to do.”

Mr Marufu said President Mnangagwa will sign the declaration on behalf of Zimbabwe.

He is also expected to meet his Mozambican counterpart, President Nyusi.

The two leaders are expected to discuss a range of bilateral issues, including power imports.

Earlier, President Mnangagwa was seen off at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport by Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, Cabinet ministers, Service Chiefs and senior Government officials. -Herald
