Tinashe Sambiri|The trial of three Citizens’ Coalition For Change members Aleck Tabe, Margaret Chakabuda and Nerupandai will continue on April 11.
The three are accused of convening and addressing an unlawful gathering in Mucheke Suburb.
Advocate Shumba is representing the trio.
Their lawyer has been given up to April 11 to make an application for discharge.
In a statement, CCC Masvingo said the law should not be applied selectively.
“We are not happy with the selective application of the law we are witnessing.”

By A Correspondent| Re-elected Harare Ward 16 Councilor Denford Ngadziore has hit the ground running, promising Ashdown Park and Bloomingdale residents to expect running water on their taps as replacement of underground pipes is already underway.
Ngadziore who was re-elected on a Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) ticket, shared pictures on Twitter while touring the main water line where City of Harare is replacing underground pipes.
“This morning l was at main water line Cnr Rosedene and Hre Drive. The City has completed the new underground pipe replacement as a permanent solution to the affected Ashdown Park and Bloomingdale Residents. Affected residents should expect to have water soon,” said Ngadziore.
Ngadziore was recalled by MDC-T leader Douglas Mwonzora following a Supreme Court ruling which declared the MDC Alliance Gweru congress null and void.
By Jane Mlambo| Former South Africa opposition Democratic Alliance (DA) leader Mmusi Maimane has urged regional leaders to confront the problems in Zimbabwe which he said had become a cancer that needs cure.
Maimane who now leads One Africa movement said he is ready to cure adding the that cancer does not require pain killers but removing the tumor.
“Zanu PF is the regional cancer draining South Africa, Namibia and Botswana. It’s costing us. We cure a cancer by removing the tumor. By going through chemotherapy. Panado does not cure cancer. Some people are chasing cosmetic solutions. I am going directly for the cancer,” said Maimane.
He added that the problems in Zimbabwe were a result of Zanu PF which he said should be removed from power in order to address the challenges facing the once bread-basket of Africa.
“The oppression in Zimbabwe directly affects SA. We pay the cost in health facilities being strained, in labour disputes and it has sown seeds of animosity. That is why it must fall,” said Maimane.
By A Correspondent- Zanu-PF activists in Bulawayo have accused some party members of voting for the Nelson Chamisa’s Citizen Coalition for Change (CCC) which won in all the eight local authority wards and two parliamentary seats that were up for grabs in Saturday’s by-elections.
The accusations came after it emerged that votes polled did not match the party members who turned up for voting.
Prior to the by-elections, some party members had expressed concern that there was a ibhola egangani/bhora musango (protest vote) plot not to vote for most of the Bulawayo Zanu-PF candidates whom members accused of rigging primary elections in order to represent the party.
The leaders were irked by the low voter turnout at the weekend by-elections and equated it to bhora musango.
In a WhatsApp discussion, Zanu-PF activists expressed disappointment over poor results in the city, whereby at one polling station 15 people voted for the ruling party when more than 200 party members were seen in voting queues.
“This group is composed of sellouts, it must be disbanded. They are not Zanu-PF members. You are all sellouts, just get out of here,” said one infuriated Zanu-PF member.
Another one said: “Comrades, we were walloped. How can Zanu-PF have 15 out of 125 votes? How can Zanu-PF have 75 votes out of a hundred something? How many people did you see who came to that place? The statistics of those that voted for Zanu-PF were less than 200, but the predominant number of people who were voting was known as Zanu-PF members. What are you trying to tell me? I was there until the close of voting. You people who voted know what you did.”
The party members demanded that all WhatsApp groups be dissolved because they had people who do not belong to Zanu-PF.
Zanu-PF Bulawayo spokesperson Achirbold Chiponda, however, said they were pleased that countrywide, Zanu-PF managed to snatch some local authority and National Assembly seats from the opposition.
“The character of Zanu-PF as a party is such that whether we are in or out of these few seats we will still work tirelessly to improve the lives of the masses that we represent as the ruling party,” Chiponda said.
He expressed dismay over the high voter apathy in Bulawayo.
“We appeal to the residents of Bulawayo to continue to work with us as Zanu-PF for a better Bulawayo,” he said.

A warrant of arrest was issued by Chitungwiza magistrate Shamaine Manase yesterday after Simon Mangura failed to turn up for court. The accused had been granted free bail at his initial appearance

The Music In Africa Foundation (MIAF), in partnership with Goethe-Institute, is inviting organisations operating in cultural industries in Southern African countries to apply for grants from the Sound Connects Fund (SCF).
The second call for grant applications is now open and will close on the 15th of April 2022.
SCF is an initiative aimed at promoting development and increasing the capacity of the cultural and creative sectors in Southern Africa by offering financial support in the form of different sized grants to creative and cultural industry organisations.
The fund is available to artists based in Angola, Botswana, eSwatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
Those operating in the performing arts, animation, film, gaming, photography, videography and visual arts sectors are eligible to apply for the funds.
Similar to the first call in 2021, applicants will be expected to speak to the theme of Sound Connects Us.
Interested organisations are urged to visit the Sound Connects Fund website for more information about the fund and the application process.
By A Correspondent| High Court judge, Justice Owen Tagu has ruled against an appointed executor of the late Edward Nyanyiwa of Eddies Pfugari’s estate, while ordering the statutory five percent charge against the 15 percent earlier charged.
In her argument before the court, Henrietta Nyanyiwa accused the appointed Executor Clive Mandizvidza of being interested in enriching himself at the expense of the rightful beneficiaries.
She also told the court that there was never a proper valuation of the shares held by the deceased in the various companies he had interests in as envisaged by the Estate Duty Act [Chapter 23:03] and that he wrongfully and unreasonably approved an executor’s fee of 15 percent of the estate’s gross assets as opposed to the Statutory 5 percent.
“That the Executor (Mandizvidza) who is more interested in enriching himself at the expense and to the prejudice of the beneficiaries would have failed to perform his duties and must be removed from office,” said Henrietta Nyanyiwa.
Following the death of Edward Nyanyiwa, Mandizvidza was appointed the executor of the estate on March 21, 2019.
This did not go down well with Henrietta Nyanyiwa who on 25 August 20200 wrote two letters of complaint to Master of the High Court.
Mandizvidza filed her responses with the Master of the High Court and Henrietta’s complaints were dismissed for lack of substance prompting her to approach the High Court.
In her High Court application, Henrietta Nyanyiwa sought determination on whether the interim distribution account for Edward Nyanyiwa’s estate should be set aside.
She also sought to have the fees charged by Mandizvidza set aside while she wanted her removed as executor of the late Edward Nyanyiwa’s estate.
In his ruling, High Court judge, Justice Owen Tagu ruled that;
“Her grievances can be summarized as follows, that the value of the late Nyanyiwa’s shareholding in various companies had not been properly determined in that the value of the shares in such companies is naturally affected by the companies’ liabilities and these were not taken into account in coming up with the values that the executor sought to rely on. Further that the second respondent had charged a total of fifteen percent as his fees when such percentage was not due to him. According to the applicant the second respondent’s conduct constituted overcharging and that the account be set aside.”
Justice Tagu further ruled that the questions that arise from the background was that whether there is any legal basis for the Court to interfere with the decision made by the Master of the High Court concerning the valuation of the late Nyanyiwa’s shares in the mentioned companies, whether the fees charged by the first respondent should be set aside and the executor should be removed.
Justice Tagu said Mandizvidza did not dispute that the 15 percent fee was not fair.
Tagu then ordered that the decision to confirm Mandizvidza’s interim liquidation and distribution accounts in the estate of the late Edward Nyanyiwa under DR Number 471/19 be set aside.
“The interim liquidation and distribution accounts filed by the second respondent in the estate of the late Edward Nyanyiwa under DR 471/19 be and are hereby set aside,” he ruled.
He also removed Mandizvidza from being the executor of the estate. He also ordered the executor of that estate to charge 5 percent gross of estate value.
Teachers under the Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ) have demanded a $8,4 billion total salary bill for 141 000 educators per month from the Government.
ARTUZ wrote a letter dated March 21 to the Minister of Finance and Economic Development making the demands.
ARTUZ Secretary General Robson Chere said the government has not yet fulfilled its promises on the agreed course of fees payment to teachers’ children.
He said it is sad to note that the above mentioned benefits were supposed to be effective from 1 March 2022 and the fruits of this initiative are still yet to be celebrated.
In relation to the above matter, we are kindly making a request for funds from the treasury for 141 000 teachers for $60, 000 each, kindly advise to use SSB as a method of payment to deposit in individual teachers accounts,” he said.
This came following massive teachers strikes that took place when the schools opened for the first term in which the educators cited incapacitation.
The government had to promise civil servants 20% salary increase on the Zimbabwe dollar component backdated to January 1, US$100 per month in hard currency effective March 1 in addition to the US$75 they were getting.
It also promised to pay fees for three teacher’s biological children.
By A Correspondent- A man from Happy Value mine out of Bulawayo and his colleague were tortured for two hours by a local security company guard who forced them to bite the gun.
Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube said the guard belonged to Seasec security company.
He said the two were abused for allegedly being ‘sell outs’.
“Investigations are in progress,” said Ncube.
He identified the victims as Fortunate Kanunu (49) from Happy value mine and Trust Tundu(25).
By A Correspondent- Former MDC-T deputy president Thokozani Khupe believes the outcome of the 26 March by-elections is an indication that the newly-formed Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) party led by Nelson Chamisa will win in the upcoming 2023 general elections and form the next government.
CCC won 19 out of the 28 National Assembly seats and the majority of council seats in the recently-held by-elections.
However, almost all of the parliamentary seats are in urban areas, the opposition’s strongholds and ZANU PF reclaimed two seats that were won by the opposition in 2018.
Khupe’s spokesperson Ntandoyenkosi Ndlovu on Monday told NewsDay that the by-elections will lay a firm foundation for an opposition victory in 2023. Ndlovu said:
[H]er supporters turned out in their numbers to vote for CCC and the citizens rejected ZANU PF and Mwonzora.
As Khupe said last week, the outcome of these by-elections will lay a firm foundation for an overwhelming victory in 2023.
It is clear that CCC will form the next government of Zimbabwe and Chamisa will be the next president of the country.
Just before the by-elections, Khupe announced that she was supporting CCC candidates but the party’s Bulawayo structures have refused to work with her.
CCC party members in Bulawayo say Khupe’s previous association with ZANU PF leader President Emmerson Mnangagwa has made it difficult for them to trust her.
When Khupe was sacked by the MDC-T leader Douglas Mwonzora, she launched the “#beat the pot campaign, No vote for Mwonzora, No vote for ZANU PF”.

Professor Peter Mageto, a Kenyan national, was appointed the AU’s fifth Vice-Chancellor recently. In a statement, AU said:
The appointment reflects the international thrust of the university and is in keeping with its Pan-African spirit.
… Led by the university board chairman, Bishop Mande Muyombo, the search committee over the past nine months served with dedication and divine conviction to shortlist over 3 000 applications for the position, that were received from Africa, North America and Europe to identify the next leader of Africa University.
Mageto’s appointment comes as the United Methodist Church-affiliated institution is celebrating 30 years of existence.
He had been the acting Vice-Chancellor from January 2021 until the recent appointment. Added the statement:

By- Zanu PF has spoken out on the Saturday by-election, which it lost to the newly-formed Citizens Coalition for Change.
CCC won 19 out of the 28 National Assembly seats that were contested in the by-elections.
Speaking during a press conference at the party headquarters on Monday, Zanu PF Spokesman Christopher Mutsvangwa said the ruling party was happy with the by-election results after it won two seats that had been won by the MDC Alliance in 2018.
Said Mutsvangwa:
We did very well, the party did very well, candidates who wrestled seats from the opposition, I can’t say the same on the opposition.
Most of the seats belonged to the opposition, but with their fractured nature, Zanu PF managed to snatch two seats.
We thank ZEC (Zimbabwe Electoral Commission) for providing a fair hunting ground and unfair criticism of ZEC chairperson Priscilla Chigumba can now die down.
We see 2023 as an opportunity when the fortunes of Zanu PF will be sustained as the message resonates well with the people.
The Saturday by-elections was a warning that their days of urban electorate supremacy are over.
Zanu PF won Epworth and Mutasa South, two seats that had been won by the MDC Alliance in the 2018 harmonised elections.
The ruling party also retained its seats in Gokwe Central, Chivi South, Mberengwa South, Murehwa South, Marondera East, Mwenezi East and Tsholotsho North.
The MDC Alliance, now under the leadership of Douglas Mwonzora, failed to win a single seat.
BY- Opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader, Nelson Chamisa, has said his party won in the just ended by-elections despite rigging by the ruling Zanu PF.
Chamisa claims that the ruling party works in connivance with the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission to manipulate election results.
CCC won the majority of National Assembly and local government seats that fell vacant after the death or recalls of members.
Out of the 28 Parliamentary seats, CCC won 19 and 77 council seats out of the 121 seats available, while the ruling party won the rest.
Chamisa made the remarks at a press conference held in Harare this Monday. He said the election outcome was a “strong signal” from the citizenry. He said the electorate knows what it wants. Watch the video below for more.
By- Newly-elected Kwekwe Central Member of Parliament, Judith Tobaiwa (35), has vowed to push for changes required to ensure that the majority poor benefit from the city’s gold instead of ruling Zanu PF elites.
Tobaiwa polled got 6 639 votes in weekend by-elections to win the seat for the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), defeating Zanu PF’s local gold mining magnate John Mapurazi (2 883) and two others.
Speaking to journalists after the elections, Tobaiwa said gone are the days when Zanu PF elites controlled the often deadly gold mining sector in the Midland’s second-largest city. She said:
Mining is the backbone of Kwekwe Central and most of our youths are engaged in artisanal mining which is often dangerous due to its associated risks and also violence in the same pits.
As a legislator, I want to make sure that everyone benefits from the mineral resources in Kwekwe.
What we are currently seeing in Kwekwe is very saddening; only those who are benefitting from the mineral resource are aligned to Zanu PF.
Looking back at the election campaign, Tobaiwa said the road to victory was rough adding that she was exposed to violence as the ruling party sensed that she was going to defeat Mapurazi.
She, however, said the experience was water under the bridge as she is now focused on improving people’s livelihoods in the constituency.
Kwekwe Central fell vacant following the death in July 2020 of opposition National Patriotic Front (NPF) parliamentarian Masango Matambanadzo.

Lionel Messi says he will reassess his future with the Argentina national team after this year’s World Cup.

By A Correspondent | Fundraising programs for the nation’s newly born yellow-kid, the Citizens Coalition For Change party are now too uncoordinated that they need to be brought back into order, a debate on the Twitter Spaces portal, has concluded.
The CCC has proven ability to rise from anywhere, at any time, and quickly become a force not just for a reckoning, but one to take over a nation. The just ended bi elections have proven this capacity. But one major weakness set to slow down progress- is spinelessness when it comes to long term decision making in for instance, the entity’s treasury department.
It all started 2 years ago in 2020 when a UK based scammer, who was making false claims that she is Nelson Chamisa’s sister, Yeukai Mamoyo, had teamed up with MP Custon Matewu’s father, Jaison to publicly disrupt a Harare online fund raising session for the CCC Trio, that Coltart ended up passing orders that Matewu’s diversion of party funds to his private accounts must be stopped. At that time Matewu working with the fake-Chamisa sister, had instructed diasporans to deposit party funds into his personal company project, promising he would after that transfer the money to Harare.
Jaison Matewu, like in his earlier years when he was once removed by Tsvangirai in 2008 over the same reasons, continued to cause chaos in Chamisa party, working with the fake Chamisa sister, whose boyfriend is a top Mwonzora aide.
The fake Chamisa sister has since joined a cluster of counter intelligence agents who daily study and manipulate organisational weaknesses in the CCC.
Fast forward to 2022, the party launched Spaces discussions but was beaten in speed by a group of state agents who just last year March attempted to get three of Chamisa’s aides slapped with false charges of sexual assault. The verdict is scheduled for today for Marry Mubaiwa on her charge of breaching the Marriages Act by allegedly misrepresenting that her then husband Vice President Constantino Chiwenga consented to solemnise their marriage under the Act during the time he was hospitalised.
Magistrate Mr Lazini Ncube is due to give his judgment and this will almost certainly deal both with the alleged facts as well as whether the proven facts do breach the Act.
But Mubaiwa was back in court yesterday on her charge that she allegedly assaulted her former house maid over issues relating to her children.
Prosecutor Mrs Netsai Mushayabasa led two witnesses who told the court that Mubaiwa assaulted former maid Ms Delight Munyoro in their presence.
Mr Batsirai Furupiya, a security personnel, was the first to take to the witness stand and told the court that Mubaiwa first greeted Ms Munyoro when they had gone to collect the children from school before she started shouting at her .
“She first greeted her before she shouted at her. I then saw her assaulting Munyoro by the back of her hand,” he said. He did not hear what Mubaiwa and Ms Munyoro’s were saying during the time they exchanged words.
Colonel Gesham Muradzi, who was Vice President Chiwenga’s aide, told the court that he saw Mubaiwa attacking Ms Munyoro with the back of her hand leaving her bleeding. Col Muradzi had to intervene to restrain the two.
He saw in the mirror of the car Mubaiwa strike Ms Munyoro with the back of her hand leaving her bleeding in the mouth. He did not notice if Mubaiwa’s hand was swollen after the blow, but did notice rings on her fingers.- Herald
On World TB Day, WHO calls for an urgent investment of resources, support, care and information into the fight against tuberculosis (TB).
Although 66 million lives have been saved since 2000, the COVID-19 pandemic has reversed those gains.
For the first time in over a decade, TB deaths increased in 2020. Ongoing conflicts across Eastern Europe, Africa and the Middle East have further exacerbated the situation for vulnerable populations.
Global spending on TB diagnostics, treatments and prevention in 2020 were less than half of the global target of US$ 13 billion annually by 2022.
For research and development, an extra US$ 1.1 billion per year is needed. “Urgent investments are needed to develop and expand access to the most innovative services and tools to prevent, detect and treat TB that could save millions of lives each year, narrow inequities and avert huge economic losses,” said Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. “These investments offer huge returns for countries and donors, in averted health care costs and increased productivity.”
Investments in TB programmes have demonstrated benefits not just for people with TB but for health systems and pandemic preparedness. Building on lessons learnt from COVID-19 research, there is a need to catalyse investment and action to accelerate the development of new tools, especially new TB vaccines.
Progress towards reaching the 2022 targets set in the UN High Level Meeting political declaration and the WHO Director-General’s Flagship Initiative Find.Treat.All is at risk mainly due to lack of funding. Between 2018–2020, 20 million people were reached with TB treatment.
This is 50% of the 5-year target of 40 million people reached with TB treatment for 2018-2022. During the same period 8.7 million people were provided TB preventive treatment. This is 29% of the target of 30 million for 2018-2022.
The situation is even worse for children and adolescents with TB. In 2020, an estimated 63 % of children and young adolescents below 15 years with TB were not reached with or not officially reported to have accessed life-saving TB diagnosis and treatment services; the proportion was even higher – 72% – for children under 5 years. Almost two thirds of eligible children under 5 did not receive TB preventive treatment and therefore remain at risk of illness.
COVID-19 has had a further negative and disproportionate impact on children and adolescents with TB or at risk, with increased TB transmission in the household, lower care-seeking and access to health services. WHO is sounding the alarm on World TB Day for countries to urgently restore access to TB services, disrupted due to COVID-19 pandemic for all people with TB, especially children and adolescents.
“Children and adolescents with TB are lagging behind adults in access to TB prevention and care”, said Dr Tereza Kasaeva, Director of WHO’s Global TB Programme. “The WHO guidelines issued today are a gamechanger for children and adolescents, helping them get diagnosed and access care sooner, leading to better outcomes and cutting transmission. The priority now is to rapidly expand implementation of the guidance across countries to save young lives and avert suffering”
Updated guidelines for the management of TB in children and adolescents
Updated guidelines for the management of TB in children and adolescents released by WHO today highlight new patient-centred recommendations for diagnosis, treatment and prevention. The most recent recommendations are:
Diagnostic testing has expanded to include non-invasive specimens, such as stools.
Rapid molecular diagnostics are recommended as the initial test for TB diagnosis for children and adolescents.
Children and adolescents who have non-severe forms of drug-susceptible TB are now recommended to be treated for four months instead of six months, as well as TB meningitis, where a six-month regimen is now recommended instead of 12 months. This promotes a patient-centred approach that will reduce the costs of TB care for children, adolescents and their families.
Two of the newest TB medicines to treat drug resistant TB (bedaquiline and delamanid) are now recommended for use in children of all ages, making it possible for children with drug-resistant TB to receive all-oral treatment regimens regardless of their age.
New models of decentralized and integrated TB care are also recommended, which will allow more children and adolescents to access TB care or preventive treatment, closer to where they live.
TB remains one of the world’s deadliest infectious killers. Each day, over 4 100 people lose their lives to TB and close to 30 000 people fall ill with this preventable and curable disease. Ending TB requires concerted action by all sectors. On World TB Day, WHO calls on everyone- individuals, communities, societies, donors and governments to do their part to end TB.

The owner of the stribog firearm used to gun down 3 suspected robbers in December last year, has been suddenly appointed the president of the Chiyangwa-Pamire formed Affirmative Action Group, AAG.
An announcement in the state media coming 24hrs after the bi elections, said the Affirmative Action Group presidium has been dissolved with immediate effect with Mr Pedzisai (Scott) Sakupwanya now the new president taking over from Mr Mike Chimombe, AAG founding president Dr Phillip Chiyangwa has announced.
Mr Sakupwanya is the country’s largest gold buyer. Addressing the media today, Dr Chiyangwa said the decision to dissolve the presidium was meant to strengthen and augment the zeal to empower the organisation.
He said all other structures in Zimbabwe and internationally remain intact with AAG remaining as an affiliate of the ruling Zanu PF party.
Sakupwanya, is believed to be an agent of ZANU PF leader Emmerson Mnangagwa.

By- MDC-T President Douglas Mwonzora has recalled 16 more councillors aligned to the Nelson Chamisa led CCC.
The recalled councillors were elected under the MDC Alliance ticket in 2018.
Commenting on the recalls, exiled Political Science Professor, Jonathan Moyo, suggested that councillors that were elected under the MDC Alliance banner in 2018 and are pro-Chamisa, should all resign. Said the former Information minister:
… why are MPs & Councillors elected as MDC-A in 2018 and are now #CCC still clinging to MDC-A seats, as @DMwonzora holds them hostage? Why not resign en masse before it’s too late?
Reports indicate that Mwonzora intends to recall more councillors who are being accused of ceasing to be members of the MDC-T.
By- A member of the MDC Alliance has said it would be disastrous for the alliance to field Senator Douglas Mwonzora as its candidate for the 2023 presidential election.
Marakia Bomani, the Secretary-General (SG) of the Zimbabwe People First (ZimPF) and also the Coordinator of the MDC Alliance Secretariat told this reporter that Mwonzora’s leadership has made several blunders in a bid to settle scores with Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader, Nelson Chamisa.
Bomani accuses the Mwonzora-led leadership of making decisions for the alliance without consulting other parties that are members to the alliance.
The MDC Alliance, which consisted of 7 opposition parties, was formed in 2017 in a bid to dislodge the ruling ZANU PF from power. It has subsisted since then, although some parties left the alliance after the 2018 elections.
Bomani spoke to Pindula News in the aftermath of sending a letter to Mwonzora suspending him as the leader of the Alliance “pending investigations” over alleged violations of the alliance agreement.
The suspension came immediately after the MDC Alliance had failed to clinch a single seat in the just-ended by-elections. Bomani told this reporter:
Going into 2023 with president Mwonzora as our leader would be disastrous. The decisions which he made unilaterally, without consulting us, the other members of the alliance, are the reason why we performed badly in the by-election. We were supposed to be campaigning together as an alliance but he was was not available for us. We had enough resources, about $8.8 million yet we performed dismally. The electorate is not happy, some think we’re a project but we’re not. We have recommended that he be suspended, but it will be up to the alliance’s principals to keep him or endorse the suspension.
Bomani also said the MDC-T, a member of the alliance, has been recalling members of other parties in violation of the alliance agreement which notes that the recalling of members is the preserve of the party that fielded that individual.
He cited the recalling of Pasirayi Taurayi, a member of ZimPF, as a case in point.

By- Harare business lady Zodwa Mkandla lost over US$44000 to an employee who was allegedly manipulating the cost price of airline tickets to her own benefit.
The suspect, Juliet Chibweza, was not asked to plead when she appeared before Harare magistrate, Yeukai Dzuda.
The complainant is Mkandla’s company, Traverze Travel, represented by Precious Mutunzi, one of its directors.
She is Zodwa’s daughter.
Chibweza is employed by the company as a travel consultant whose duties include attending to customer queries and sending quotations to clients.
The court heard that in August last year, Traverze received an agent debit memo, which was a penalty for manipulation of figures for airline tickets, and was slapped with a US$13 000 fine.
The company conducted internal investigations and they picked up that Chibweza was undercharging the airlines while taking the full amount from clients.
The company started monitoring transactions she was making and, as they were doing spot checks, it was discovered Chibweza had issued five tickets, which had been paid for in full.
She had, however, handed over US$1 300, instead of the US$1700, she had received from the client.
When checks were made on the system, it was found out that she had stolen US$44 627, which was meant to be the agency’s commission. H Metro

Dynamos coach Tonderai Ndiraya has admitted they went into the match against Harare City under pressure after their main title rivals won their matches on Saturday.
DeMbare cruised to a 2-0 win over the Sunshine Boys, thanks to second half goals from Frank Makarati and Brendon Mpofu. The victory was their fourth in a row.
Speaking after the game, Ndiraya said: “I must be honest that we didn’t have it easy.
“Harare City were tactically good and that made life difficult for us especially in the first half.
“It was also a difficult match from the physical point of view, but in the end, what is important is to win.”

By Jane Mlambo| Citizens for Coalition Change (CCC) candidate for Epworth Earthrage Kureva lost the seat to Zanu PF’s Zalerah Makari because of internal fights spearheaded by the party’s Epworth chair Damson Damson, it has emerged.
Damison admitted that he was eyeing the seat for 2023 and Kureva’s loss would boost his chances.
“We don’t want him, we never wanted him here. I am eyeing that seat for 2023,” said Damson.
So intense was the enmity between the two that Kureva had to bring outside election agents fearing that local polling agents would be influenced by Damson to rig for Makari.
“Kureva is an outsider and he couldn’t even employ our youths to be elections agents. He came here with his own people and citizens we were not happy about it,” said Damson.
However, investigations showed the former Member of Parliament had to make last minute changes after discovering that Damson instructed party supporters not to vote for Kureva.
“In Ward 6 and 7 Damison was spotted by observers instructing CCC members to vote for Zanu PF candidate. Kureva performed badly in those wards,” said an inside source.
Damson accuses Kureva of sponsoring one Norbet Makoni to stand against him on the chairman’s post.
“Kureva is divisive. He has been sponsoring rival candidates to usurp power from us. He did that in Ward 6 where he was fighting our councilor Batanai Masunda,” said Masunda.
Ironically, those wards are where Kureva performed badly giving credence that he was indeed sabotaged by local CCC leadership in Epworth.
Efforts to get a comment from Kureva were fruitless as his phone was not getting through.
Kureva is one of the first people to be recalled from parliament by Douglas Mwonzora after he publicly showed his allegiance to CCC president Nelson Chamisa.
After garnering over 26 000 votes in 2018 election, he only managed just over 8000 votes compared to Makari’s 10 000. The election was marred by voter apathy and many people were turned away on Election Day after ZEC tempered with the voters roll. Makari whose victory is being celebrated by Zanu PF’s former G40 godfathers Saviour Kasukuwere went on a vote buying spree the night before the election, dishing out mealie meal and promising cash to the electorate.
Dynamos continued their winning streak with a 2-0 victory over Harare City in the Castle Lager Premiership Matchday 9 encounter at the National Sports Stadium on Sunday.

Bosso legends Johannes “Tshisa” Ngodzo and Gift Lunga Jr have officially started their tenure at Real Betis Academy Zimbabwe following the launch of a satellite branch in Bulawayo over the weekend.
The two coaches were unveiled at the academy along with Murape Murape and Tichaona Dhiya, who are overseeing the Harare Centre.
The technical team will work under the guidance of Real Betis Technical Director Juan Parra.
Real Betis Academy Zimbabwe chairman Gerald Sibanda revealed to Soccer24: “Yes, in Bulawayo it will be Johannes and Gift as we start…
” (But) As the Academy grows, we will also be creating opportunities for other local young coaches to grow their coaching careers through us.”
Before the appointment, Lunga was coaching Mosi Rovers in Division One while Ngodzo had a stint with Bulawayo City’s developmental side and was an assistant to Try Ncube when the senior team was promoted back to the top league in 2019.
The Bulawayo centre will be based at Barbourfields B Arena.

On World TB Day, WHO calls for an urgent investment of resources, support, care and information into the fight against tuberculosis (TB).
Although 66 million lives have been saved since 2000, the COVID-19 pandemic has reversed those gains.
For the first time in over a decade, TB deaths increased in 2020. Ongoing conflicts across Eastern Europe, Africa and the Middle East have further exacerbated the situation for vulnerable populations.
Global spending on TB diagnostics, treatments and prevention in 2020 were less than half of the global target of US$ 13 billion annually by 2022.
For research and development, an extra US$ 1.1 billion per year is needed. “Urgent investments are needed to develop and expand access to the most innovative services and tools to prevent, detect and treat TB that could save millions of lives each year, narrow inequities and avert huge economic losses,” said Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. “These investments offer huge returns for countries and donors, in averted health care costs and increased productivity.”
Investments in TB programmes have demonstrated benefits not just for people with TB but for health systems and pandemic preparedness. Building on lessons learnt from COVID-19 research, there is a need to catalyse investment and action to accelerate the development of new tools, especially new TB vaccines.
Progress towards reaching the 2022 targets set in the UN High Level Meeting political declaration and the WHO Director-General’s Flagship Initiative Find.Treat.All is at risk mainly due to lack of funding. Between 2018–2020, 20 million people were reached with TB treatment.
This is 50% of the 5-year target of 40 million people reached with TB treatment for 2018-2022. During the same period 8.7 million people were provided TB preventive treatment. This is 29% of the target of 30 million for 2018-2022.
The situation is even worse for children and adolescents with TB. In 2020, an estimated 63 % of children and young adolescents below 15 years with TB were not reached with or not officially reported to have accessed life-saving TB diagnosis and treatment services; the proportion was even higher – 72% – for children under 5 years. Almost two thirds of eligible children under 5 did not receive TB preventive treatment and therefore remain at risk of illness.
COVID-19 has had a further negative and disproportionate impact on children and adolescents with TB or at risk, with increased TB transmission in the household, lower care-seeking and access to health services. WHO is sounding the alarm on World TB Day for countries to urgently restore access to TB services, disrupted due to COVID-19 pandemic for all people with TB, especially children and adolescents.
“Children and adolescents with TB are lagging behind adults in access to TB prevention and care”, said Dr Tereza Kasaeva, Director of WHO’s Global TB Programme. “The WHO guidelines issued today are a gamechanger for children and adolescents, helping them get diagnosed and access care sooner, leading to better outcomes and cutting transmission. The priority now is to rapidly expand implementation of the guidance across countries to save young lives and avert suffering”
Updated guidelines for the management of TB in children and adolescents
Updated guidelines for the management of TB in children and adolescents released by WHO today highlight new patient-centred recommendations for diagnosis, treatment and prevention. The most recent recommendations are:
Diagnostic testing has expanded to include non-invasive specimens, such as stools.
Rapid molecular diagnostics are recommended as the initial test for TB diagnosis for children and adolescents.
Children and adolescents who have non-severe forms of drug-susceptible TB are now recommended to be treated for four months instead of six months, as well as TB meningitis, where a six-month regimen is now recommended instead of 12 months. This promotes a patient-centred approach that will reduce the costs of TB care for children, adolescents and their families.
Two of the newest TB medicines to treat drug resistant TB (bedaquiline and delamanid) are now recommended for use in children of all ages, making it possible for children with drug-resistant TB to receive all-oral treatment regimens regardless of their age.
New models of decentralized and integrated TB care are also recommended, which will allow more children and adolescents to access TB care or preventive treatment, closer to where they live.
TB remains one of the world’s deadliest infectious killers. Each day, over 4 100 people lose their lives to TB and close to 30 000 people fall ill with this preventable and curable disease. Ending TB requires concerted action by all sectors. On World TB Day, WHO calls on everyone- individuals, communities, societies, donors and governments to do their part to end TB.

Having been birthed to the political world on 24 January 2022 , the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) in just 2 months 2 days performed a Herculean political feat yet to be witnessed on our shores.
On 26 March 2022, the newly formed citizens centred political outfit cruised to victory in a mini election that is surely going to set the tone as we go towards the 2023 general election.
It is important to point out that these by-elections were birthed as a result of senseless recalls of people’s representatives by Douglas Mwonzora. Despite being oiled with the stolen loot from the Political Parties Finances Act money, Mwonzora, MDC T or is it MDC Alliance failed to garner even a single seat from the 122 local government seats and 28 Parliamentary seats on offer. It was a mediocre and dismal performance from a party whose national chairperson, Morgan Komichi recently claimed that over 62 000 people attended their campaign rally at the Zimbabwe Grounds in Harare.
ZANU PF, a party formed in 1963 with all its experience in electoral contests since 1980 only managed 9 Parliamentary seats and a handful of council seats. Not even boreholes, banning of CCC rallies, ZEC antics and violence and murder of CCC members could save ZANU PF from the jaws of defeat by the CCC Galacticos.
It is important to note that there is a deliberate attempt by ZANU PF to frame CCC as old red wine dressed in yellow wine skins. Some quarters, even surprisingly suggested that CCC lost seats they previously won to ZANU PF.
All of a sudden proponents of such talk have deliberately lost their memory on the fact that CCC is a new party with new logos, symbols, colours and culture. The Change Champion in Chief, Advocate Nelson Chamisa consistently pointed out that CCC is a new political outfit from the day he announced it right through the campaign period of these by-elections.
The citizens made a big statement on Saturday. They successfully recalled Mwonzora from the political matrix of this country, wrote his political epitaph and will bury him forever come 2023.

The government has claimed that the xenophobic attacks targeting Zimbabweans that erupted in Robertson, Cape Town, South Africa have been contained.
Last week there were reports that Zimbabwean citizens were being attacked by South Africans, who accuse them of taking their jobs. The attacks left most Zimbabwean nationals hospitalised.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade spokesperson Livit Mugejo confirmed receiving reports of attacks in Robertson, Cape Town revealing that some Zimbabweans were injured during the skirmishes.
“Our Consulate in Cape Town gathered information regarding the anti-foreigner’s violence in the Robertson area which took place the same day. The Consulate gathered that a group of South Africans teamed up and started to attack Zimbabweans accusing them of taking their jobs. The affected Zimbabweans fled their homes and sought refuge in bushes and some took refuge at police stations,” Mugejo said.
“Information we have to date is that the disturbances have since been quelled by the police and we are happy that the violence was contained and the affected Zimbabweans have since returned to their places of abode.”
Mugejo added that they were in contact with the citizens in South Africa through the embassy in Pretoria and consulate in Johannesburg and Cape Town, adding that the government had been assisting with the repatriation of Zimbabweans who wish to return home.
“In regard to the recent attacks in Cape Town, our offices are in regular touch with Robertson Police Service and Zimbabwean residents in SA through their representatives,” he said.
“The ministry is always ready to assist Zimbabweans whenever there is need. We would like to urge all our nationals to report all incidents of this nature whenever they occur to their nearest embassy offices so that they can be assisted.”

Chamisa ripped into the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) for being a biased referee saying between now and 2023, they will push for electoral reforms to ensure that there will not be a repeat of past problems that resulted in disputed results.

Various news reports from South Sudan on Monday morning alleged that the Vice President of that country has been surrounded by soldiers following his public complaints that the military are abusing members of the opposition.
Reporters were still searching for a comment from the government at the time of writing.
Founded in 1983, the South Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA) which was founded as a guerrilla movement against the government of Sudan in 1983 following the Second Sudanese Civil War, led by John Garang, has remained a challenge to the nation’s politics.

A 16-year-old school pupil at Ndarama High School in Masvingo died after he drank poison after he had allegedly been summoned for a hearing by school authorities.
The incident which happened on Wednesday last week became the fourth suicide case in two weeks in the province, with police expressing worry over people resorting to suicide
to solve their problems.
Masvingo provincial police spokesman Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa confirmed the
death of Ronald Chirongwe (16) of Rujeko and the death of a 25-year-old man
Richard Zvitupa who committed suicide after a misunderstanding with his wife.
“On 22 March around 3am Chirongwe ,a Form 3 pupil at Ndarama was seen vomiting
by his younger brother, a 10-year-old who rushed and told their mother Tichaona
Bhadhara (44).
She observed that her son was in pain and rushed him to the Masvingo General
Hospital. Chirongwe was treated and was discharged.
On 23 March in the morning Chirongwe died. The matter was reported to the police
and they discovered that there was a Pepsi bottle which had a strong smell near his
bed and the substance is yet to be identified. The body was taken to Masvingo
General Hospital for post mortem,” he said.
In a separate incident, Zvitupa of Chisango village, Chief Mukangwani, Bikita, had a
misunderstanding with his wife on 19 March and the wife threatened to report the
matter to the police. Since the day, Zvitupa is said to have been sending suicidal
messages to his relatives.
“On 23 March around 7am Zvitupa went to look for his wife at his nephew Nomatter
Mutero (26)’s home. He sat at the veranda and drank an unknown concoction.
Zvitupa started vomiting and wallowing moving from the veranda to the yard where
he fell down. Jacob Mutero who was at the house came out and discovered that
Zvitupa was having difficulties in breathing. Zvitupa died before he could get any
assistance.
The body was taken to Silveira Mission for post-mortem.”
Meanwhile, in another incident Brian Zaru who was a Masvingo Teachers’ College
student is said to have committed suicide on March 23.
Zaru who is reported to be attached at Gokomere High School drank rat poison at the
Masvingo Civic Centre. This follows an incident where a 16-year-old Masvingo girl
committed suicide last week on Monday after she was reprimanded by the mother for
failing to do household chores.
“People should not consider committing suicide as a solution but should be able to
share their problems with others,” said Insp Dhewa.

Zimbabwe has reached a critical moment in terms of its debt obligations as serious violations of constitutional provisions of public finance management continue unsolved.
Deliberation at this week’s Zimbabwe Coalition on Debt and Development (Zimcodd) and African Forum and Network on Debt and Development (AFRODAD) media initiative show that no steps have been taken to authorise unbudgeted expenditure in violation of Constitution of Zimbabwe Amendment (No 20) Act of 2013, section 300 which limits State borrowings, public debt and State guarantee.
Nothing was also done with regards to the violation of Public Finance Management (PFM) Act [Chapter 22:19] of 2009 Sections 61 which sets a 30% threshold for government debt and 40% for guarantees.
Currently, the government’s overdraft at the RBZ exceeds limits set in the RBZ Act of 2010 while public debt exceeds the limit set in the Public Debt Management Act [Chapter 22:21] of 2015 with respect to the 70% debt to gross domestic product ratio. Zimbabwe also exceeded Southern African Development Community protocol on finance and investment benchmarks of 60%.
Transparency International Zimbabwe executive director Tafadzwa Chikumbu said the government’s ambitious Vision 2030 would remain a fallacy unless the debt issue was resolved through a holistic sustainable and inclusive debt management framework.
“The country has reached a critical moment and needs to wean itself off the debt trap and associated macroeconomic stagnation. The government’s ambitious Vision 2030 will remain a fallacy unless the debt issue is resolved through a holistic sustainable and inclusive debt management framework. The national debt should, therefore, be viewed and treated as a symptom of the wider structural and political challenges inherent in the economy. Dealing with these challenges will form an integral part of a sustainable debt strategy,” Chikumbu said.
Without addressing the challenges inherent in the economy, Chikumbu said it would be difficult to prevent future indebtedness, adding that the government should simultaneously implement structural, political and sound macroeconomic policies as part of a sustainable and inclusive debt management strategy.
Zimbabwe has been in debt distress since 2000 when the country first defaulted on its external obligations.

Re-elected Harare East legislator Tendai Biti has vowed to resume his exposé of alleged corrupt dealings by businessman Kuda Tagwirei whom he accuses of funding his rival, Mavis Gumbo’s political campaign.
Biti was contesting against Zanu-PF candidate Gumbo and others in his bid to reclaim the Harare East seat.
Last year, Biti was recalled from Parliament together with Settlement Chikwinya, William Madzimure and Regai Tsunga by People’s Democratic Party secretary-general Benjamin Rukanda.
As Public Accounts Committee chairperson, Biti was vocal against Tagwirei and was recalled when he was about to reveal more details of the businessman’s involvement in the command agriculture scheme.
“We were facing a deranged candidate, but the real person we are fighting is Kuda Tagwirei. He was hiding behind the skirts of Mavis Gumbo, so he poured money into her campaign,” Biti told Citizens Coalition for Change supporters in his constituency after his victory was confirmed after contesting under the CCC banner, where he deputises Chamisa.
“The real work is in Parliament, that is my strength. We are going against corruption, and we are coming for you Tagwirei, we are coming for you Billy Rautenbach, the land barons, the cartels we are coming for them.
“So, if you are Tagwirei, you better go to the bathroom because we are coming for you.”
Efforts to get a comment from Tagwirei were fruitless as his mobile phone went unanswered.
Tagwirei is a top businessman, who is believed to have strong links to the presidium, particularly President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his deputy Constantino Chiwenga.
“The real battle is next year. We are not going to stop, we are not going to demobilise. What was most disappointing about these campaigns was that there was violence, people were beaten, but it does not have to be like that,” Biti said.

By Reason Wafawarova| Let’s do the analysis for the 28 Parliamentary (House of Assembly) seats contested in the by election.
Firstly let me congratulate all the winners and implore them to carry out their duties faithfully, loyally, truthfully, patriotically, competently and whole heartedly knowing very well that beyond winning an election is the duty to serve the country and the people of Zimbabwe in moving the country forward.
Let me wish those who came second best to the best in their political endeavours in the future. Democracy entails that we test the wishes of our people through the casting of votes and thereafter we all accept and respect the outcome of the people’s wishes, supporting those mandated to represent our people.
So we had 28 vacant parliamentary seats, the majority of them being vacant because of recalls of incumbent MPs from the MDC T, and others because incumbents died or vacated to take up other appointments.
Out of the 28 seats contested 20 formerly belonged to the MDC T and 7 to Zanu PF, while one belonged to the NPF, an offshoot party from Zanu PF internal power struggles of 2017.
The CCC, a breakaway new party from the MDC T won 19 of the 28 seats while Zanu PF won 9, gaining 2 seats from their tally in 2018.
Zanu PF tallied 76 355 votes in the 9 constituencies they won, and the CCC polled 24 307 in these constituencies they failed to win. The difference in votes here is 52 228.
In the 19 constituencies that the CCC won they tallied 105 492, with Zanu PF trailing them with 51 864 votes. The difference in votes for the 19 constituencies is 53 628, only 1 400 higher than that of the 9 constituencies won by Zanu PF.
There is a difference of 10 consciences in favour of the CCC.
The cumulative vote for the CCC is 129 799 and that of Zanu PF is 128 399. The difference is 1 400 and yet Zanu PF only won 9 seats.
The bi-partisan vote was 258 198 and the CCC won 50.27% of that vote while Zanu PF won 49.72%.There are a few things to note. The CCC is only weeks old and they did extremely well, but not surprisingly, given the by election were largely in the opposition traditional strongholds.
Secondly the figures show that Zanu PF has the mobilising capacity to win big in their strongholds and also to narrow the margin in the opposition strongholds.
2023 is going to be exciting and I know for a fact that Zanu PF is going to engage big brains to work around these voting patterns ahead of 2023.
Equally I think the CCC will push ahead with encouragement after the boost of retaining or recovering seats lost to needless court battles in the aftermath of Tsvangirai’s death.
By- Opposition, MDC Alliance has suspended its leader, Douglas Mwonzora, hours after the alliance lost the just ended by-elections.
The MDC Alliance did not win even a single seat out of 28 National Assembly and 121 local government seats that were up for grabs. In a letter, Marakia Bomani, ZimPF SG & Secretariat Alliance Coordinator said:

On and around January to March 2022, you violated multiple sections of MDC Alliance’s agreement of the 5′ of August 2017 and the Non-Competent Alliance agreement amendment I of the 5th of January 2021. The MDC Alliance was well funded by Mr. and Mrs. Tax Payer but under your leadership, our candidates nationwide failed to win at least one single polling station. You are a disgrace Mr. President.

Therefore, the alliance Secretariat in consultation with the alliance executive, will be making extensive consultations with Parliament, our legal team and Government seeking solutions on how we should progress with your case.

MDC-T President Douglas Mwonzora has recalled 16 more councillors.
The recalled councillors were elected under the MDC Alliance ticket in 2018.
Commenting on the recalls, exiled Political Science Professor, Jonathan Moyo, suggested that councillors that were elected under the MDC Alliance banner in 2018 and are pro-Chamisa, should all resign. Said the former Information minister:
… why are MPs & Councillors elected as MDC-A in 2018 and are now #CCC still clinging to MDC-A seats, as @DMwonzora holds them hostage? Why not resign en masse before it’s too late?
Reports indicate that Mwonzora intends to recall more councillors who are being accused of ceasing to be members of the MDC-T.
By- Opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) led by Nelson Chamisa prevailed in the 26 March By-elections, winning 75 out of 122 (61.5%) council seats and 19 out of 28 (68%) Parliamentary seats that were up for grabs.
The party’s overall performance was 64.75%.
The rest were won by the ruling Zanu PF.
Out of the 28 parliamentary seats that were up for grabs, 20 were won by the opposition MDC Alliance in 2018 of which 18 fell vacant by recalls (by MDC-T), 2 by death.
Of the 28 Parliamentary seats, Zanu PF won 7 in 2018 of which 5 fell vacant by death, 1 by a recall and 1 by resignation.
The remaining 1 was won by the National Patriotic Front and it fell vacant by death.
By- A Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) female presiding officer collapsed and died Saturday afternoon while carrying out designated election duties at Chipadze Primary School in Bindura, Mashonaland Central.
The presiding officer, whose name was not released, collapsed while she was on duty in the mining town and it could not be ascertained, by the time of going to print if she had been complaining of any illness when she reported for duty. National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident in a telephone interview last night.
“We had an unfortunate incident at Chipadze Primary School in Bindura where a presiding officer just collapsed and died. We are still assessing if there are any other reports, we will give to the media tomorrow (today),” he said.
He said the body of the deceased presiding officer was taken to a local hospital.
“The presiding officers’ body was ferried to Bindura Hospital Mortuary. We are yet to find out if she was not feeling well. We will be guided by the medical experts. It’s an unfortunate incident,” said Asst Comm Nyathi.
Turning to the voting exercise, Asst Comm Nyathi said there were isolated cases of misconduct where one person was arrested after casting his vote in Sunningdale, Harare.
“We have one person who was arrested in Sunningdale 2 in Harare. The person came to cast his vote, he went through all the voting procedures and he was given his ballot paper. After casting his ballot paper, he came out of the booth and he took a photograph of his ballot paper indicating where he had put his vote,” he said.
The man, unbeknown to him, was being watched by alert polling officers who quickly alerted police who arrested him. Zec issued a statement yesterday on the prohibition of taking pictures of marked ballots during an election.
“The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission notes with concern that some voters are taking photographs of marked ballots and sending them on social media.
This is in contravention of the Constitution which protects the right to security of the ballot,” wrote Chief Elections Officer Mr Utoile Silaigwana. He said the provision was put in place to protect voters from victimisation.
“Voters are advised that this constitutional provision is in place to protect them from victimisation and is an internationally recognised right which the Commission endeavours to protect, voters are thus advised to desist from any actions that might compromise this right and the integrity of the electoral process,” he added.
Mr Silaigwana however, emphasised that the general public must be aware that taking photographs inside the polling station is prohibited and constitutes a criminal offence in terms of Section 30 of the Electoral Regulations S.1.2.21 of 2005.
However, Asst Comm Nyathi said when polling stations closed at 7pm the voting process in terms of security had been very peaceful.
“We want to urge the public that they must remain peaceful, they must continue to co-operate with the police so that we have the environment remaining conducive for forthcoming elections,” he said.
By-The opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) has thanked Zimbabweans for voting for his party in the Saturday by-elections.
The party leader Nelson Chamisa said the by-election results indicated that all authority comes from the citizenry.
He speaks as results released by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) have revealed that his party prevailed in most constituencies and wards where elections were held.
He said:
This by-election has shown that ultimately all authority comes from the CITIZENS. Citizens are above politicians & their foolish politics. Why did you waste national resources taxpayers’ money? Would these resources not have been deployed to better our health, education sectors?
The by-elections were held to replace 28 members of Parliament (MPs) and 121 councillors who died and those who were recalled from office.
Most of the recalled were members of the MDC Alliance led by Nelson Chamisa. They were recalled by rival MDC-T following a 2020 Supreme Court ruling which ruled that Chamisa was not the legitimate leader of the MDC that contested in the 2018 elections.
Chamisa saw the recalls as a strategy by the ruling ZANU PF to dismantle the opposition in the land. They accused MDC-T of acting at the instigation of the ruling party.
Following the Supreme Court ruling, the government gave funds under the Political Parties (Finance) Act to the MDC-T in proportion to the MDC Alliance vote of 2018.
The development has infuriated the Chamisa-led party, believing it should receive the money since Chamisa contested the 2018 elections, not Douglas Mwonzora.

Re-elected Harare East legislator Tendai Biti has vowed to resume his exposé of alleged corrupt dealings by businessman Kuda Tagwirei whom he accuses of funding his rival, Mavis Gumbo’s political campaign.
Biti was contesting against Zanu PF candidate Gumbo and others in his bid to reclaim the Harare East seat.
Last year, Biti was recalled from Parliament together with Settlement Chikwinya, William Madzimure and Regai Tsunga by People’s Democratic Party secretary-general Benjamin Rukanda.
As Public Accounts Committee chairperson, Biti was vocal against Tagwirei and was recalled when he was about to reveal more details of the businessman’s involvement in the command agriculture scheme.
“We were facing a deranged candidate, but the real person we are fighting is Kuda Tagwirei. He was hiding behind the skirts of Mavis Gumbo, so he poured money into her campaign,” Biti told Citizens Coalition for Change supporters in his constituency after his victory was confirmed after contesting under the CCC banner, where he deputises Chamisa.
“The real work is in Parliament, that is my strength. We are going against corruption, and we are coming for you Tagwirei, we are coming for you Billy Rautenbach, the land barons, the cartels we are coming for them.
“So, if you are Tagwirei, you better go to the bathroom because we are coming for you.”
Efforts to get a comment from Tagwirei were fruitless as his mobile phone went unanswered.
Tagwirei is a top businessman, who is believed to have strong links to the presidium, particularly President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his deputy Constantino Chiwenga.
“The real battle is next year. We are not going to stop, we are not going to demobilise. What was most disappointing about these campaigns was that there was violence, people were beaten, but it does not have to be like that,” Biti said.

Govt has launched a crackdown on police officers linked to organised cattle rustling syndicates that operate along the Zimbabwe-Botswana border leading to the arrest of some suspects and their subsequent dismissal.
A number of officers have also been redeployed pending investigations. Theft of livestock, which is a growing challenge for people along the Zimbabwe-Botswana border, prompted President Mnangagwa to set up an inter-ministerial committee to tackle rampant cross-border cattle rustling.
The move was in response to concerns raised during the recent third session of the Zimbabwe-Botswana Bi-National Commission (BNC) in Victoria Falls. The committee was given up to April 30, 2022, to contain the situation.
Emmerson Mnangagwa and his Botswana counterpart, President Mokgweetsi Masisi, last month oversaw the signing of several memoranda of understanding (MoUs) covering various sectors during the third session of the BNC.
Zimbabwe and Botswana agreed to expediate the establishment of base camps along the Mlambaphele border which they said should be fully resourced and be in sync with the ones established on Botswana side.
The inter-ministerial committee comprising Ministers Kazembe Kazembe (Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage), Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri (Defence and War Veterans Affairs), July Moyo (Local Government and Public Works) and Mangaliso Ndlovu (Environment, Climate, Tourism and Hospitality Industry), Professor Mthuli Ncube (Finance and Economic Development) and Dr Anxious Masuka (Lands, Agriculture, Water, Fisheries and Rural Development), recently visited Mlambaphele Border Post in Gwanda District in Matabeleland South to interface with the affected communities.
The province continues to record high cases of stock theft with areas like Tshanyaugwe Nhwali, Mlambaphele, Guyu, Manama, Mankonkoni Rustlers Gorge and Ngoma being identified among the hotspots.
In an interview yesterday, Minister Kazembe, who chairs the committee, said the crackdown on police linked to cattle rustling followed concerns raised by the affected communities.
“What we can promise the affected communities is that Government is definitely doing something to curb the scourge. As I speak, some of the police officers involved or linked to the cattle rustling have been shown the door while others have been transferred to other stations,” he said.
“Some of them have since been arrested and investigations are still going on. Those arrested will appear in court soon. A lot is happening to address that problem and as directed by the President, by April 30, 2022, we would have done a lot to try and curb that scourge.”
Minister Kazembe could not give the figures of those arrested. “I don’t have the actual figures of the arrests but what I can say is that the majority of those who were working in that area, although not caught on the wrong side of the law, have been transferred,” he said.
Minister Kazembe said various ministries, which are part of the inter-ministerial committee, are working towards addressing the challenges.
“There is a lot that is happening behind the scenes since the inter-ministerial committee was set up. After our visit to Mlambaphele Border Post to have an appreciation of the challenges that the local communities are facing, we prepared a report, which will be presented to Cabinet,” he said.
“We have also come up with some recommendations as to how we should proceed in dealing with this issue in line with the directive by the President.
Something that we have already started doing is setting up police bases and work has started to see how best police can have communication gadgets.”
Minister Kazembe said Government has adopted a zero tolerance to cattle rustling and warned that those involed will be arrested.
“We will, with the help of local communities, do all we can so that we stop this menace. In the spirit of re-engagement and good neighbourliness, we shall intensify our efforts towards our collaboration,” he said.
The notorious cattle rustlers change the brand marks of stolen cattle to evade justice. In some instances they slaughter the beasts and sell the meat to butcheries and individuals.
A large portion of the Zimbabwe/Botswana border fence has been destroyed by elephants making monitoring difficult for police.

“ZANU-PF is pleasantly relieved that it has kept and solidified its traditional support in the traditional rural bastions.
The Party of the Zimbabwe Revolution is most delighted that it made fresh inroads in MDC-CCC urban strongholds.
The internecine fights of the fractious MDC-CCC formations handed ZANU-PF a propitious chance to pick a few more national assembly seats and thus increase further the two thirds absolute majority in Parliament.
ZANU-PF also used the occasion to harvest a respectable clutch of local council seats.
It’s clear that two decades of MDC-CCC urban neglect, feckless maladministration, screaming corruption and putrid decay are all finally beginning to invite the wrath of the long suffering urban citizenry at the expense of Nelson Chamisa and his acrimonious cohorts.
Even more reassuring is the narrowing margins in those seats ZANU-PF lost. This speaks volumes of the resurgent support of the Party.
ZANU-PF is heartily encouraged by its catch from the MDC-CCC opposition ponds.
The electoral jury is out. Come the 2023 Harmonized Elections, ZANU-PF envisages an electoral tsunami that will drown the foreign spawned opposition and its reliance on alien sponsorship.
President EDM Mnangagwa has reason for a measure of smugness.
His hopeful message of urban renewal is hitting the tuneful chords in our towns and cities. The urban appeal of the mantra Zimbabwe Is Open For Business is energizing entrepreneurial flair.
The electorate sees President EDM on a spree of ribbon cutting of revived factories and their expanded production lines.
President EDM is hoping from one ground breaking ceremony to another as major infrastructure projects open up to global class investment in oil and gas drilling in Muzarabani, iron and steel ecosystem in Mvuma-Chivhu-Manhize, ferrochrome in Selous, Coking coal in Hwange, Platinum Group Metals on the Great Dyke and lithium deposits in Goromonzi and Bhuhera.
The resultant infrastructure dividend is seeing ‘yellow metal’ earthmoving, bulldozers etc in frenetic activity. The whole landiscape has been converted into a huge construction site.
There is a takeaway message for ZANU-PF Party. The Party of the Zimbabwe Revolution is recovering its urban spunk and completing its portfolio of national socio-economic and political appeal.
Kudos and gratitude deservedly go Chairman Priscilla Chigumba and focused and hardworking ZEC team. Unmiffed by detractors, they stuck to their statutory mandate and discharged their assignment in a sterling manner.
Zimbabwe democracy once more proved its homegrown mettle.
Perhaps to the shame of those meddlesome West now preoccupied with the military imbroglio in Ukraine.
Nelson Chamisa, true to pettiness is gloatful at his showdown with Mwonzora.
He is celebrating the win of this consolation price.
Indeed a paradox underscoring the vindication of the undisputed ascendancy of ZANU-PF on the Zimbabwe political stage.
He conveniently misses the point that the same election process that awards him the self adulatory win against his MDC-CCC adversaries is the one that equally lands him a drubbing from against.
Yet he has the temerity to disparage ZEC each time he opens his lips. All because the sulking and right wing fringe political elements in post imperial London and Washington are bent on never ever reconciling with independent, and assertive Zimbabwe.

William Manondo’s brace stirred CAPS United to their fourth victory of the season after beating Herentals 3-2 in a Matchday 9 encounter played on Saturday.
Monondo opened the scoring for the Green Machine at the half-hour mark following a prolonged cagey affair.

The resultant infrastructure dividend is seeing ‘yellow metal’ earthmoving, bulldozers etc in frenetic activity. The whole landiscape has been converted into a huge construction site.
There is a takeaway message for ZANU-PF Party. The Party of the Zimbabwe Revolution is recovering its urban spunk and completing its portfolio of national socio-economic and political appeal.
Kudos and gratitude deservedly go Chairman Priscilla Chigumba and focused and hardworking ZEC team. Unmiffed by detractors, they stuck to their statutory mandate and discharged their assignment in a sterling manner.
Zimbabwe democracy once more proved its homegrown mettle.
Perhaps to the shame of those meddlesome West now preoccupied with the military imbroglio in Ukraine.
Nelson Chamisa, true to pettiness is gloatful at his showdown with Mwonzora.
He is celebrating the win of this consolation price.
Indeed a paradox underscoring the vindication of the undisputed ascendancy of ZANU-PF on the Zimbabwe political stage.
He conveniently misses the point that the same election process that awards him the self adulatory win against his MDC-CCC adversaries is the one that equally lands him a drubbing from against.
Yet he has the temerity to disparage ZEC each time he opens his lips. All because the sulking and right wing fringe political elements in post imperial London and Washington are bent on never ever reconciling with independent, and assertive Zimbabwe.

Information Secretary, Nick Mangwana, has said the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) led by Nelson Chamisa has “failed” to penetrate the rural vote as had been anticipated.
He speaks as the results of by-elections held on Saturday 26 March 2022 show that CCC is winning mainly urban areas where the opposition MDC has traditionally won since its formation in 1999. Commenting as ZEC continued to announce the results, Mangwana said:
It seems like the “Colour Revolution” was a poor attempt at creating a grassroot(s) movement. It was all hype, no heart. All style, no substance All froth, no beer All bark, no bite All buzzwords, no facts. You have more? Please share.
Ahead of the by-elections, Chamisa toured all provinces where the elections would be held and thousands of supporters thronged to the rallies to hear him speak.
The huge attendance, even in rural areas known for being ruling ZANU PF’s hunting grounds, gave the impression that the newly-formed party (morphing from MDC Alliance) had won the rural vote.
It is bad news for MDC Alliance led by Douglas Mwonzora as they are yet to win a single seat
By A Correspondent- Opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) led by Nelson Chamisa prevailed in the 26 March By-elections winning 75 out of 122 (61.5%) council seats and 19 out of 28 (68%) Parliamentary seats that were up for grabs.
The party’s overall performance was 64.75%.
The rest were won by the ruling ZANU PF.
Out of the 28 parliamentary seats that were up for grabs, 20 were won by the opposition MDC Alliance in 2018 of which 18 fell vacant by recalls (by MDC-T), 2 by death.
Of the 28 Parliamentary seats, ZANU PF won 7 in 2018 of which 5 fell vacant by death, 1 by a recall and 1 by resignation.
The remaining 1 was won by the National Patriotic Front and it fell vacant by death.
Meanwhile, MDC-T leader, Senator Douglas Mwonzora has recalled 16 more councillors.
Commenting on the recalls, exiled Political Science Professor, Jonathan Moyo, suggested that councillors that were elected under the MDC Alliance banner in 2018 and are pro-Chamisa, should all resign. Said the former Information minister:
… why are MPs & Councillors elected as MDC-A in 2018 and are now #CCC still clinging to MDC-A seats, as @DMwonzora holds them hostage? Why not resign en masse before it’s too late?
Reports indicate that Mwonzora intends to recall more councillors who are being accused of ceasing to be members of the MDC-T.
