About The Elderly

Key facts

Around 1 in 6 people 60 years and older experienced some form of abuse in community settings during the past year.
Rates of abuse of older people are high in institutions such as nursing homes and long-term care facilities, with 2 in 3 staff reporting that they have committed abuse in the past year.
Rates of abuse of older people have increased during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Abuse of older people can lead to serious physical injuries and long-term psychological consequences.
Abuse of older people is predicted to increase as many countries are experiencing rapidly ageing populations.
The global population of people aged 60 years and older will more than double, from 900 million in 2015 to about 2 billion in 2050.
Overview

The abuse of older people, also known as elder abuse, is a single or repeated act, or lack of appropriate action, occurring within any relationship where there is an expectation of trust, which causes harm or distress to an older person. This type of violence constitutes a violation of human rights and includes physical, sexual, psychological and emotional abuse; financial and material abuse; abandonment; neglect; and serious loss of dignity and respect.

Scope of the problem
Abuse of older people is an important public health problem. A 2017 review of 52 studies in 28 countries from diverse regions estimated that over the past year 1 in 6 people (15.7%) aged 60 years and older were subjected to some form of abuse (1). Although rigorous data are limited, the review provides prevalence estimates of the proportion of older people affected by different types of abuse.

Data on the extent of the problem in institutions such as hospitals, nursing homes and other long-term care facilities are scarce. However, a review of recent studies on abuse of older people in institutional settings (2) indicates that 64.2% of staff reported perpetrating some form of abuse in the past year.

Emerging evidence indicates that the prevalence of abuse of older people in both the community and in institutions have increased during the COVID-19 pandemic. A US study, for instance, suggests that rates in the community may have increased by as much as 84% (3).

Abuse of older people in community settings
Abuse of older people in institutional settings
Globally, the number of cases of elder abuse is projected to increase as many countries have rapidly ageing populations. Even if the proportion of victims of abuse of older people remains constant, the global number of victims will increase rapidly due to population ageing, growing to some 320 million victims by 2050, as the global population of people aged 60 years and more increases to 2 billion by 2050.

Consequences
Abuse of older people can have serious physical and mental health, financial, and social consequences, including, for instance, physical injuries, premature mortality, depression, cognitive decline, financial devastation and placement in nursing homes. For older people, the consequences of abuse can be especially serious and recovery may take longer (4).

Risk factors
Individual level characteristics which increase the risk of becoming a victim of abuse include functional dependence/disability, poor physical health, cognitive impairment, poor mental health and low income. Individual level characteristics which increase the risk of becoming a perpetrator of abuse include mental illness, substance abuse and dependency – often financial – of the abuser on the victim. At the relationship level, the type of relationship (e.g., spouse/partner or child/parent) and marital status may be associated with an elevated risk of abuse, but these factors vary by country and region. Community- and societal-level factors linked to elder abuse may include ageism against older people and certain cultural norms (e.g., normalization of violence). Social support and living alone reduce the likelihood of elder abuse (5).

Prevention
Many strategies have been tried to prevent and respond to abuse of older people, but evidence for the effectiveness of most of these interventions is limited at present.

Strategies considered most promising include caregiver interventions, which provide services to relieve the burden of caregiving; money management programmes for older adults vulnerable to financial exploitation; helplines and emergency shelters; and multi-disciplinary teams, as the responses required often cut across many systems, including criminal justice, health care, mental health care, adults protective services and long-term care (5).

In some countries, the health sector has taken a leading role in raising public concern about abuse of older people, while in others the social welfare sector has taken the lead. Globally, too little is known about elder abuse and how to prevent it, particularly in developing countries.

Mining: Practical Lessons

Like every business mining has its key factors that can make it do extremely well or fail .

Most miners think a good sample will make them succeed unfortunately a good sample is not sustainable unless you know the importance of the following factors in the mining sector. If you master them day by day you will blossom even in dark days and enjoy glory days to the fullest.

Enjoy the ride .
Three pillars of wholesome mining in order
1 strategic management
2 Debt
3 the boss ” gold panner ” tsheketsha korokoza

1 strategic management
The mine manager is key to function his impact is so crucial such his complete absence can be measured by a lot of red flags like low output ; loss of equipment; no records ; lack of proper compliance and production that cannot be measured let alone be sustainable. Before you appoint a manager know your weakness and hire someone who will compliment your weakness. Secondly create a management team that involves you and him stop cellphone management of any kind . Cellphones are good for reports and analysis only . To your team third person in form of someone who compliments his weak ; it can be a blaster or cyanide plant manager depending on which area your manager is good at .

First attribute of your manager should be administration before anything then followed by one of the two pillars of mining leaching and mining. The security guard is not part of management must not be at whatever costs .

Your relatives ( including your wife and kids ) should get a job somewhere else or be prepared to take instructions from a management team never to directly report to you no matter what. Don’t discuss mining issues with them listen to their opinions silently unless if they qualify then appoint them . Paid management team and all your employees well and fire them for underperformance never rehire someone fired by management team .
Debt .

Debt is a cancer affecting the whole world unfortunately in artisanal mining Debt is what Cellphone lines are to econet , Lithium is to Tesla car , imagine if econet will stop selling lines without coming up with an alternative. Most of mining services are paying after work completion which is root causes of all Debts you hear about in mining stories. First artisanal miners use cheapest means to reap gold Most cases they don’t have transport and milling means this leads to smart loans by service providers then all problems begin here .

On top of that all services are available on short term based loan usually supported by black market indirectly which explains why black market cannot disappear overnight.

Since gold is not guaranteed failure to pay these loans forces credit to accumulate to so high levels such that its not surprising to find a mine owner or even worker owing 20 000usd or more ranging from diesel credit, stampmill credit, explosives credit ; rental and electricity credit for domestic purposes or many more . Inorder to survive you have to acquire debt management skills that are not only superb but partnered with discipline. When you decide to invest in a mine a guy with more debt is the perfect partner depending on your analysis because of few factors. If he/she has more it means his mine has a huge potential just mismanagement who can borrow someone with no means to pay .

Number two you use his/ her debt as insurance through what l call debt purchase ” . This desires caution carefully study and implementation.

You take his debt but still keep it in his name negotiate for payment plan where possible complete erasing of some of them ( that’s possible ) then use his debt to double you investment on him takes years repairing his debt yet already making profits on it . Let’s miner F owes EMA 3000usd for bills and tickets ; 1500usd ministry of mines tickets; 2000usd stamp mill and 4500usd for car loan and family expenses to make 11 000usd yet you want to invest 25 000usd in his mine you just raise 14 000usd buy his 11 000usd debt ask for payment from ministry of mines and EMA then ask to pay half for stampmill debt or complete erasure then negotiate for transfer of registration first things first then you are in the game .Debt purchase is easier route into a full operational mine . Sometimes you buy personal debt only but be cautious. Will cover debt in a separate post .
3 The boss “tsheketsha; korokoza “
We have a saying ” impara ngelikatsheketsha ” . This means every goldminer has a dry spell or good spell . This means no matter how cautious you are the dry spell will hit you very hard . When supporting this guys financial remember this all the time support them based on performance in areas Iike 1 transparency; consistency, accountability more than the sample. Don’t support them when they are doing well by buying cars and houses at that point they don’t need your help they simply want to use you . Treat them as Kings all the time but don’t borrow them money like you are mother Theresa support them don’t spoiler them hunger and suffering is the manager of “the boss ” the rest is cost .

Respect them their dirty is the business part personally any clean person in the mining sector Most probably is a scammmer l don’t trust such lots of them proved to me beyond doubt .

NB for debt purchase model inbox or even debt purchase itself.

Latest on Kasukuwere Case Hearing

By A Correspondent- Independent presidential candidate Saviour Kasukuwere’s case where he is seeking the nullification of the High Court ruling that removed him from the ballot will now proceed after the Supreme Court ruled that the matter be heard on July 27.

Prior to the ruling by the Supreme Court, Kasukuwere had withdrawn his application that was challenging a motion by Lovedale Mangwana to have the matter of his candidature resolved urgently.

The court also ordered both Kasukuwere and Mangwana lawyers to submit their arguments on July 26.

“An order by consent was issued, you recall that Saviour Kasukuwere filed an appeal against the judgment of the High Court and Mangwana filed an urgent chamber application asking that the appeal be heard on an urgent basis,” Kasukuwere’s lawyer, Method Ndlovu said.

“We took instructions from our client who requested that we consent to that order being sought so we have agreed that the appeal will be heard on an urgent basis.”

Kasukuwere was recently blocked from contesting in the August 23 Presidential election by the High Court.

High Court judge Justice David Mangota nullified Kasukuwere’s nomination ruling that he should stop “masquerading as a candidate.”

This followed an application by Zanu-PF activist, Lovedale Mangwana who successfully argued that Kasukuwere had ceased to be a registered voter as he has been out of his constituency for over 18 consecutive months.

However, Kasukuwere was back on the ballot paper after his legal team successfully appealed the nullification of his nomination at the Supreme Court.

His appeal suspended the High Court order.

Kasukuwere’s case procession comes after United Zimbabwe Alliance leader Elizabeth Valerio was successfully added to the Presidential candidates list becoming the only woman to feature in this year’s presidential race

Soldier Hauled To Court Over False Claim

By A Correspondent- A member of the Zimbabwe National Army allegedly falsified documents to claim $23,160 quadrillion during the hyper-inflationary era for injuries sustained during the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) war.

Nason Mhlanga (47) yesterday appeared before magistrate Dennis Mangosi who granted him US$50 bail.

The complainant is the Public Service Commission Pension Agency being represented by pensions assistant Simbarashe Matengaifa.

Mhlanga is a beneficiary of medical assistance in terms of the State Service Disability Benefits Act after being injured during the war.

According to the State, Mhlanga manufactured fake quotations and receipts that he used to siphon cash from the pensions office. Following the misrepresentation, Mhlanga was paid a windfall.

The complainant later learnt that the quotations and receipts were fake and filed a police report, but Mhlanga went into hiding until he was arrested on Wednesday.

Zim Son In Law Pays Homage To Wife’s Roots With A Decorated Jacket

Known for the colourful ties he wore during his 32 years on Channel 4 News, Jon Snow now sports flamboyant jackets instead.

Snow, 75, who retired in 2021, was spotted with his wife, the Zimbabwean academic Precious Lunga, 48, strolling around Primrose Hill, North London.

He paid homage to her roots by wearing a jacket decorated with the flags of African countries.

‘I’m proud of the fact she is a Zimbabwean,’ Snow has said of Lunga, whom he married in 2010.

They have a son, delivered via surrogate in 2021. Snow also has two daughters with former girlfriend, Madeleine Colvin, a human rights lawyer.

In February, Snow revealed he was on the ‘lookout for more work’ after an ‘abrupt’ end to his journalism career a in 2021.

Speaking to Radio Times, he said: ‘Everything is tickety-boo, except there isn’t quite as much work as I’d like. I’m on the lookout for more.’

When speaking about enjoying a busy retirement, he said: ‘You can’t put your feet up anyway when you’ve got a two-year-old. They’ll be sitting on your feet before you can put them even halfway up.’

He continued: ‘It’s just that I want to keep the old brain going. And you can’t suddenly give up asking questions. You remain a journalist at heart, whether you’re employed as one or not.

‘I was at ITN and Channel 4 News for 43 years, and if you pound away for that long, doing the same thing, at the same time, every day, the moment it stops is quite abrupt.’

Jon added: ‘I’d always known there would be an endpoint, and it was probably the right time.’

Mnangagwa Is Cruel And Unforgiving: Mzembi

By A Correspondent| Former Tourism and hospitality minister Walter Mzembi has slammed President Emmerson Mnangagwa over his remarks in Marange last week where he said in politics those who do not tow the line are physically punished.

Mnangagwa torched a political storm when he told thousands of apostolic sect members who gathered in Marange that politics is different from the church which forgives those who break the rules.

“Imwi kana munhu atadza munomunamatira kuti Jehovha dzora mweya wake aite zvakanaka, isu tinorakasha kuti uti tasa, tinosvasvanga worurama…,” said Mnangagwa.

But Mzembi found the remarks to be testimonial of Mnangagwa’s unforgiving spirit, saying even the late President described him as cruel and unforgiving.

“This dark humour is testimony of the unforgiving spirit of our President which he confesses with his own mouth in front of a whole congregation of Mapostori who unfortunately found this amusing ! ” Emmerson is cruel and unforgiving ” – Mugabe,” said Mzembi.

Bulawayo Chiefs, Herentals Clash

TROUBLED premiership outfit Bulawayo Chiefs are approaching their next home assignment against Herentals with caution despite posting a morale-boosting three-nil win over Triangle United in their last encounter.

Oozing with confidence after collecting maximum points in the two matches under new coach Joseph Sibindi, Bulawayo Chiefs are refusing to underrate their next opponents, Herentals.

The Students are wounded having lost to log leaders Highlanders one-nil at Mandava, but on a good day, they are capable of grinding a result based on their never die attitude.

“We have told ourselves to play for exposure. You never know if you can attract the attention of other clubs. The Herentals game will not be an easy one, but we are preparing for the game because we want maximum points,” said Bulawayo Chiefs midfielder, Mthokozisi Msebe.

After netting a hat-trick in their last encounter, Obriel Chirinda hopes they maintain the winning formulae.

“We have a new coach and a new set-up, so what we are doing is to take his instructions and this has taken us this far. We are aware we facing a stubborn opponent but we will leverage on home advantage to collect maximum points,” he noted.

A mid-season target for Highlanders, Chirinda had wanted to seal a move to the Bulawayo giants but was tied by a running contract, with his parent club tabling hefty demands.
Bulawayo Chiefs are sixth on the log with 23 points while Herentals are 10th on 18 points.

Cattle Destroyed By Govt

In a significant development highlighting the challenges faced by the Zimbabwean government in controlling the spread of serious diseases, the Department of Veterinary Services took action last week by destroying seven cattle that had been unlawfully transported from a quarantined area. These cattle were destined for slaughter at an abattoir located outside the province.

The Tanda area in Makoni North, where four dip tanks are under quarantine for January Disease (JD) and Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD), was the source of these cattle. It is important to note that moving livestock in and out of a quarantined zone is strictly prohibited by law.

The interception of a lorry loaded with the seven cattle occurred early on Saturday morning along the Mayo-Chiendambuya Road. The individuals responsible for this illegal act, whose identities remain unknown, were subsequently handed over to the police in Mayo.

Inspector Nobert Muzondo, the Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, was unavailable for comment regarding this incident. However, he had previously announced the deployment of dragnet teams to help address stock theft and uncontrolled animal movements.

The suspects involved in transporting the cattle were reportedly lacking both the required police clearance and a veterinary permit. It is suspected that a syndicate is enticing farmers with foreign currency in exchange for diseased cattle, bypassing the necessary processes.

The destruction and disposal order for the cattle were issued to Dr. Charles Guri, the Provincial Veterinary Officer for Manicaland, by Dr. Josphat Nyika, the Director of the Department of Veterinary Services, on July 10th. The order was issued under the Animal Health Act Chapter 19:01, Sections 7 and 8, empowering the Director of Veterinary Services to dispose of unlawfully imported animals and infectious materials, as well as animals and materials contaminated or infested with disease or pests.

Dr. Guri and his team carried out the destruction of the herd earlier this week. Dr. Guri raised concerns about unscrupulous abattoirs evading health protocols by slaughtering cattle infected with suspected theileriosis and FMD, and subsequently selling the meat, potentially compromising public health.

The prevalence of deadly diseases has resulted in numerous cattle deaths, leading some farmers to sell their infected livestock to butchers. Dr. Guri warned that certain abattoirs have been purchasing diseased animals and introducing the contaminated meat into the food chain, despite prior warnings.

To address the situation, roadblocks have been established at Nyagadze Bridge, Dawara Bridge, Kanyimo, and Nyamaropa Roads. However, perpetrators have resorted to using alternative routes under the cover of darkness to avoid detection.

Dr. Guri emphasized the need for vigilance, stating that any livestock illegally moved from quarantined areas would be destroyed. Authorities have also instructed all butcheries to cease the sale of diseased meat, as it is both illegal and unethical. Furthermore, cattle intended for commercial purposes must undergo slaughter at registered abattoirs where compulsory meat inspections are conducted.

Efforts to contain the spread of diseases and ensure the health and safety of the public and livestock continue to be a top priority for the Department of Veterinary Services.

Woman Assaulted by Husband’s Girlfriend After Catching Them in Bed

Concession, Zimbabwe – Purity Mhlanga, a 51-year-old woman, experienced a shocking turn of events when she discovered her husband, Jim Mhlanga, in bed with his alleged girlfriend, Tamari Chawara (49). As Purity confronted the couple at Chawara’s residence, the situation escalated, resulting in Purity being assaulted by Chawara.

The incident unfolded on October 29th of last year at approximately 8 PM. Purity had received information regarding her husband’s suspected extramarital affair with Chawara and decided to investigate. Acting on the tip-off, she hurried to Chawara’s homestead, where she found Jim and Chawara together in an intimate setting.

Emotions ran high as Purity confronted Chawara, accusing her of luring away her husband. However, instead of engaging in a civil discussion, Chawara responded with violence. Enraged, Chawara assaulted Purity with a stick, striking her twice on the back and once on the forehead. The forceful blow to Purity’s forehead resulted in a deep cut.

Following the assault, Purity promptly reported the incident to the local authorities, leading to Chawara’s subsequent arrest. Chawara appeared before Concession magistrate Joshua Nembaware to face charges of assault.

During the court proceedings, Chawara pleaded guilty to the assault charges. As a widow responsible for ten children, Chawara appealed for mercy, emphasizing her challenging circumstances. She claimed that she had acted in self-defense, mistaking Purity for a thief when she arrived unannounced at her house late at night.

Magistrate Joshua Nembaware deliberated on the case and handed down a sentence. Chawara was sentenced to six months imprisonment, which was wholly suspended for a period of five years. However, the suspension came with a condition: Chawara must not commit any offense involving assault during that period. Failure to comply with this condition would result in immediate imprisonment without the option of a fine.

The incident serves as a reminder of the emotional turmoil and potential consequences that can arise from extramarital affairs. While emotions understandably ran high, resorting to violence is never an acceptable solution. The court’s decision highlights the importance of peaceful resolution and serves as a reminder that assaulting others carries serious legal consequences.

Purity Mhlanga’s ordeal serves as a cautionary tale, shedding light on the complexities and painful repercussions that can result from infidelity within relationships.

Bulawayo Chiefs Keen To Slaughter Students

UK Opens Another Job Opportunity For Zimbabweans

By- The UK government has opened another sector for foreigners to apply for and get work permits.

London has added Bricklayers, plasterers and other construction jobs to the government’s “shortage occupation list”, making it easier for foreign builders to come to Britain amid labour shortages partly caused by Brexit.

The UK government has relaxed visa restrictions for a number of sectors that face severe worker shortages, and has added bricklayers and masons; roofers, roof tilers and slaters; carpenters and joiners; plasterers and other construction workers to the list. Fishing jobs have also been added to the list.

The Home Office said that this would “aid the delivery of key national infrastructure and stimulate growth for related industries”.

Those working in a shortage occupation can be paid 80% of the job’s going rate and still get a skilled worker visa, and benefit from a lower application fee. Applicants need a sponsored job offer from an employer and must meet English language requirements.

The independent migration advisory committee recommended in March that construction workers be added to the shortage occupation list. The list already includes care workers, engineers, web designers and laboratory technicians, along with healthcare roles.

This allows employers to recruit staff from abroad on salaries as low as £14,880 for senior care workers and from £15,120 for lab technicians.

With the move, Rishi Sunak faces a further backlash from Conservative MPs, after making promises to reduce immigration. Conservative governments have promised since 2010 that they would cut net migration.

Overall migration into the UK reached a record of 606,000 last year, up 24% on the previous year, while the backlog of asylum cases is also at an all-time high.

Britain’s construction industry has long battled worker shortages, but Brexit has worsened the gaps as EU citizens can no longer come to work in the UK without visas as before. Many EU workers returned to their home countries during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Suzannah Nichol, the chief executive of Build UK, said: “It is vital that construction is able to fill vacancies and quickly address shortages around particular roles.

“So we welcome the news that five occupations will be added to the shortage occupations list, which will help the industry continue to deliver the schools, homes, hospitals and infrastructure that we need.”

However, Sir John Hayes, a former minister and ally of the home secretary, Suella Braverman, told the Daily Telegraph that the government should be “training up the British workforce” instead.

“We therefore encourage Greater Harare, Norton, and Chitungwiza members to come in numbers and honour our Father at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport, Harare, on this historic day,” Apostle Nyambo said.

Murdered Tapiwa Makore’s Head Roasted

By- In a shocking development about the murder of Tapiwa Makore, there are fresh revelations that murderers boiled the boy’s head to contain the smell from its decomposing state before taking it to a traditional healer in Mozambique.

Tapiwa was murdered by Tafadzwa Shamba and his uncle and namesake Tapiwa Makore in 2020 in a ritual to boost the latter’s cabbage business.

Gaylord Shamba (59), who is the uncle of Tafadzwa, told the weekly publication Kwayedza that his nephew confessed that the boy’s head was taken to a Mozambican “n’anga” for ritual purposes. He said:

I once visited him when he was in the cells to find out what really transpired.

He confessed that he killed Tapiwa after slicing him into pieces and stashing the body parts into plastic papers, including the head, as per instructions.

He confessed there were others involved, including Tapiwa Senior, who took the head and left with it for Mozambique after it was cooked.

Tafadzwa made it clear that he doesn’t know where the head is.

He insists that the sangoma did not accept the head they took to Mozambique as the n’anga wanted a fresh and uncooked head, similar to a chicken head.

It is said the entourage dumped the head along the way, but he was not sure whether it was dumped on the Mozambican or Zimbabwean side.

Tapiwa Jr was buried several months after his death with his head still missing.

Shamba and Tapiwa Sr were recently sentenced to death by High Court Judge Justice Munamato Mutevedzi.

Uebert Angel Bribes Zanu PF

By-President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s gold smuggler and controversial preacher Uebert Angel has donated 5 600 bags of foodstuffs to Zanu PF supporters.

According to the Twitter handle @zanupf_patriots, Angel made the donation this Wednesday. Said Zanu PF.

Thank you, Ambassador Uebert Angel… Today Ambassador Angel donated 5 600 bags of food to families who had gathered in support of Cde ED and our party candidates.

Angel was appointed Presidential Envoy and Ambassador at Large for Europe and the Americas by President Emmerson Mnangagwa on 17 March 2021.
He is also a self-proclaimed prophet and the founder and leader of Good News Church, formerly Spirit Embassy.
Angel claims God uses him to heal the sick and predict the outcomes of elections and football matches.
In early 2021, an Al Jazeera documentary called “Gold Mafia” alleged that Angel offered to use his status to assist Al Jazeera reporters who posed as Chinese nationals launder millions of dollars through a gold-smuggling scheme.
Angel claimed that President Emmerson Mnangagwa was aware of his schemes. He said in one of the episodes:
I can call the president now, not tomorrow, now and put him on speaker, it’s not an issue. We are the government.
Despite being caught on camera bragging that he could use his diplomatic cover to carry large volumes of dirty cash into Zimbabwe as part of a laundering operation also involving gold smuggling, Angel was recently appointed as the African Union’s Pan African Parliament (PAP) Ambassador for Interfaith Dialogue and Humanitarian Affairs.

Nigerian Journalist Raises Alarm After 7 Hour Detention At RGM Airport

A Nigerian journalist, author and activist has told of his hell after he was detained for 13 hours at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport, before being ordered to board a flight back to his country.

David Hundeyin said authorities advised him that he needed a visa to enter Zimbabwe.

“I landed in Zimbabwe earlier today (Wednesday), and I have been detained at Harare Airport inside a smelly locked room for nearly 7 hours,” he wrote on Twitter during his ordeal.

“They said that despite using the travel document of a country with a visa-free relationship, my nationality is still Nigerian, and thus, I need a visa. I was processed for removal from their country and locked in a tiny room, but I have heard nothing from anyone for several hours.”

Hundeyin later reported that he had been joined in detention by a Ugandan woman, also denied entry over visa issues.

He protested in another tweet: “No-one appears to be in charge of anything, and even though my return flight to Addis has been rescheduled for tonight, I am still locked in this room, and I risk missing my flight. They appear to have forgotten that they have people in detention here. I am ready to hop on my flight and never come back to Zimbabwe for the rest of my life.

“Please, someone out there who is actually in charge of something should let me go so I can be on my merry way. I’m not interested in visiting Zimbabwe anymore. I want to go home. Please.”

Hundeyin was allowed to use the toilet for the first time after a lengthy 10 hours detention with the Zimbabwean authorities assuring him he would be allowed to catch his exit flight.

Although he is Nigerian, Hundeyin lives in London and was reportedly using a travel document of another country, known as a “1966 Convention Travel Document”, which is a passport issued to people who have sought asylum.

The founder of the West Africa Weekly, a Substack newsletter, later boarded an Ethiopian Airlines flight to Addis Ababa. He tweeted that he was “safe and well”, adding: “I was untouched and unharmed.”

The Zimbabwe government accused Hundeyin of seeking special treatment.

Ndabaningi Mangwana, the secretary of information, said Nigerian nationals were in Category C of entry requirements and must obtain visas before embarking on their travel to Zimbabwe.

“I’m sorry that this journalist found himself in this situation. That said, we do have immigration laws in our country that are obligatory to all prospective entrants, and no profession is immune to them. If someone’s travel document is such that they need a visa, that law applies to everyone including an award-winning journalist. Our laws are blind to social stations or attendant achievements,” said Mangwana.

George Charamba, the spokesman in the presidency, had a more hostile take on Hundeyin’s troubles.

“Thanks to our security arms for neutralising this agent provocateur. Zimbabwe has no time for hired guns and pseudo-Africans,” he tweeted.

Borrowdale Family Tormented By Robbers

By A Correspondent- A family from Borrowdale, Harare, was robbed of a Mercedes Benz, gun and cash by robbers just before midnight.

ZRP spokesperson for Harare Province, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, confirmed the robbery incident.

He said Paul Themba Munashe (50) and his family were subjected to emotional abuse by five robbers soon after arriving at their Brookview house from a church function. Said Insp Chakanza:

The complainant arrived home from a church function with his wife and their two minor children at around 11.30 PM driving a silver Mercedes Benz E280 registration number AEW 3882.

As they were entering the house, they were confronted by five men armed with unidentified pistols wearing face masks.

They forced the complainant and his family into the house and demanded cash from him.

The complainant took out an envelope from his pockets containing US$1 000 and handed it to them.

They demanded his firearm and also took a Dell laptop from the bedroom and tied the couple with shoelaces.

They drove away in his vehicle with a 5kg gas tank, gas heater and marriage certificate book.

Armed robberies have been on the increase in Zimbabwe in recent years as a lot of people now prefer storing value in US dollars often stocked away from formal banking institutions for fear of losing them.

According to the Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency, Zimbabwe recorded 1 120 armed robberies in 2021, compared with 931 in the previous year.

In 2022, in a bid to reduce robberies and rampant gun crime in Zimbabwe, President Emmerson Mnangagwa extended a gun amnesty that allowed Zimbabweans illegally in possession of firearms to surrender them to the police with no questions asked.

Masarira Calls For Dialogue, Unity

By A Correspondent- LEAD President Linda Masarira has called for dialogue and unity calling on fellow citizens to desist from using the social media to insult each other.

We publish below, Masarira’s full statement:

One thing I have done in my life is to believe in me. Even when some people tried to bury me because I didn’t believe in their normative leverage strategies, they failed because I am a seed. A seed does not die. It might germinate late, but it will germinate.

My life journey taught me to be bold, courageous, resilient, tenacious, and pragmatic. Even when all the odds have been against me for believing in realistic ways to reclaim our identity not only as Zimbabweans but also as Afrikan people,

I have continued to thrive in adversity. People without identity are future less as identity crisis will always stifle growth and prosperity. We are people who are trying to exist in a borrowed space with borrowed culture, borrowed systems, borrowed identity, borrowed lifestyles, and borrowed everything. In the midst of all these borrowed things, we have found ourselves in a gango of intolerance, toxicity, polarity, corruption, hate, greed, malice, etc.

Why do we even hate each other so much for just having different opinions? Why do some people even pride themselves in typing vulgar insults in social media spaces? If only the unity that leaders have at the top could cascade to the followers, we would definitely be in a better space politically.

As I gaze into the horizon awaiting my fate on 24 July 2023, I pray for unity of purpose, tolerance in our diversity, love for thy neighbour, and above all peace. Dialogue should always be our preferred conflict resolution method.

Even the worst wars ended with dialogue. Violence should be condemned by all Zimbabweans, and as we campaign, let us exercise restraint and let love lead.

Controversial Borehole Drilling Tender Raises Accusations and Concerns: ZINWA Under Scrutiny

By A Correspondent| In a recent development, there are accusations surrounding the awarding of a borehole drilling contract to Paul Tempter Tungwarara’s Prevail International company.

It is alleged that the contract was awarded without following proper tender procedures and there are claims of inflated prices for the project.

The Zimbabwe National Water Authority (ZINWA) is at the center of this controversy, with concerns being raised about the Prevail Group company’s capacity to handle such a large-scale project.

Prior to the donations by Dubai based billionaire who was duped by Tungwarara, Prevail International was not into borehole drilling.

According to reliable information, Tungwarara’s company was granted a contract to drill 4000 boreholes in villages.

However, there are reports suggesting that these boreholes are not being drilled in the community as intended.

A source revealed, “The boreholes are being drilled at the Chief’s homestead and are no longer benefiting the community.”

Additionally, there are allegations that a borehole was drilled at a shopping center without seeking permission from the owner of the stand, which has raised concerns, especially during the time of elections.

Furthermore, sources within ZINWA have claimed that the prices charged by Prevail International for drilling the boreholes are exorbitant, exceeding US$12,000 compared to other companies providing similar services for USD$6,000.

This accusation has led to further scrutiny regarding the cost-effectiveness of the project and its potential financial implications for the public.

It has also been alleged that Tungwarara employed a strategy to secure the contract by using Mulk Shaji UI International, a company that has donated boreholes to the government.

Reports suggest that he donated boreholes to communities in Glen View, St Mary’s, and Binga, seemingly as a goodwill gesture. It is believed that these donations were used to influence ZINWA’s decision-making process and secure the drilling contract through unconventional means.

These allegations have raised concerns among the public and have cast doubts on the integrity of the contract awarding process within ZINWA. Citizens are demanding a thorough investigation into the matter to ensure transparency, accountability, and adherence to proper procedures when awarding government contracts.

Efforts to get a comment from Tungwarara were fruitless as his mobile phone is currently unreachable while a WhatsApp message send to his number was ignored.

Minor Murders Colleague Over Girlfriend

By A Correspondent- In a shock incident, a 15-year-old Mwenezi male juvenile stabbed and killed a rival, also 15, over a girlfriend.

Police said Wednesday they were investing a case of murder involving the unnamed juvenile.

“Police in Mwenezi are investigating a case of murder in which a male juvenile, 15, stabbed another juvenile, 15, with a kitchen knife on the shoulder and head after an argument over the suspect’s girlfriend on 18 July 2023 near Masongwe Secondary School.

“The victim died on the spot,” police said.

The incident follows growing cases of teenagers in parts of the country turning to murder to settle arguments often over girlfriends and boyfriends.

In November last year, a 16-year-old Harare girl was arrested for stabbing and killing a 35-year-old man with a knife following a quarrel at a shebeen in Harare’s Hatcliffe suburb.

The victim, Amos Mhere, died on the spot after being stabbed on the chest with a kitchen knife.

A year earlier, another 15-year-old schoolgirl died after she was stabbed by a 16-year-old rivalrival, girlfriend,  during an ill-fated fight over a boyfriend in Nkayi district’s Ngwaladi area in Matebeleland North.

“The suspect stabbed the victim with a kitchen knife which she was given by her 14-year-old cousin,” police said at the time.

Just recently in July, a 19-year-old Fort Rixon teenager was stabbed to death allegedly by a 17-year-old juvenile who was reportedly incensed by the deceased’s attempts to stop a brawl he was having with another youth over a 15-year-old girlfriend.

Police identified the victim as Mthokozisi Sibanda.

“Court Ruling Crucial Milestone For Democracy”: UZA

By A Correspondent- The opposition United Zimbabwe Alliance (UZA) party has welcomed a ruling by the Electoral Court instructing the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) to take the necessary steps to ensure that its leader, Elisabeth Valerio, is added to the ballot.

In a statement released this Thursday, 20 July, UZA national spokesperson Elvis Dzvene said from the onset, they were convinced that justice would prevail. He said:

Our party recognizes the ruling as a crucial milestone in promoting a democratic and inclusive electoral process. We welcome the court’s ruling appreciating that justice has been served.

It was not right for the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission to reject our party leader’s nomination papers as there was no legal basis for this.

The June 21st decision of the elections body was incorrect considering that President Valerio availed all the relevant documentation to indicate that payment had been effected on time.

While UZA welcomes the ruling, we are equally unhappy about the time that we have spent in the courts challenging the unfair and unjust rejection of our nomination by ZEC. Our campaign has already begun, however, not having our President on the ballot was a setback.

It is important to note that we remained optimistic that justice would be served. We have not been deterred by the difficulties and our candidates nationally are on the ground spreading the UZA ideology to the electorate.

Dzvene called for peace in the run-up to the elections to ensure that voters cast their ballots in an environment free from intimation.

Valerio became the only female presidential candidate nominated for the 2023 elections and her name will now be added to the list of presidential candidates.

Kasukuwere Billboards Haunt ED

By A Correspondent- Government has angrily reacted to campaign billboards mounted by self-exiled former minister Saviour Kasukuwere’s campaign team, and has ordered  advertising companies to seek approval first before erecting them.

This comes after Kasukuwere’s campaign team mounted a huge billboard along Robert Mugabe Road and another along Simon Mazorodze Road in Harare.

Kasukuwere is one of the 11 candidates in the August 23 presidential race, and is likely to draw most of his support from Mnangagwa’s ruling Zanu-PF party to the advantage of the opposition.

A letter sent to advertising companies by the Office of The Provincial Road Engineer says advertisers have to be given greenlight before placing highway billboards.

“Please be informed that all content to be advertised on billboards on State highways in Mashonaland Central now requires prior approval from the office of the Provincial Road Engineer,” the letter  dated July 18, 2023 read in part.

“Therefore, each company seeking to put up new content on their billboards should take due diligence to notify this respective office before installation, clearly specifying the nature of the content.”

Previously poll candidates did not seek permission to put up campaign posters on national highways. In response, Kasukuwere said this was a clear indication that the ruling party was running scared.

“Allow us to campaign! These fellas are scared, pound for pound! August 23! Chachaya,” Kasukuwere posted on Twitter.

The former Zanu-PF political commissar is facing impediments in his push to contest for the biggest office on the land.

He is currently campaigning from South Africa after government said he would be arrested upon arrival in the country to faceoutstanding criminal charges.

His candidacy was challenged at the courts by Zanu-PF activist Lovedale Mangwana.

The High Court ruled in favour of Mangwana, but Kasukuwere filed a Supreme Court appeal. The case will be heard today.

Latest On E-Creator Ponzi Scheme Scam

More than 200 complaints have been filed with the police amid revelations that hundreds of people were duped while some lost houses after investing in the E-Creator Ponzi scheme.

E-Creator Ponzi Scheme suspected fraudsters have hogged the limelight in recent weeks after allegedly duping scores of people of over one million United States dollars through an online investment scam.

In an exclusive interview with the ZBC News this Tuesday, ZRP National Spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi revealed that there are fears that some people may have been left homeless after selling houses and residential stands to invest in the E-Creator Ponzi Scheme.

“Reports in relation to E-Creator Ponzi scam are still coming and we have received more than 200 reports as of yesterday. The reports are coming from as far as Chipinge, Masvingo, Gweru and Harare. But there are many people who are not coming to report because they are shunning to be seen by the public, but they must come forward to allow due processes to be done. Certainly the US$1 million figure can be more than that,” he said.

Economist, Dr Lovemore Gomera and information technology expert, Dr Munyaradzi Gwatidzo have cautioned the public against investing in Ponzi schemes.

Dr Gomera noted, “It’s unfortunate that people have lost money to the Ponzi scheme. This is not the first time, but my take is that people should first make due diligence before investment. What we see is that these guys thrive on relationship and trust from other colleagues because if your colleague has invested and comes to you, it means you are bound to invest because you trust him or her. I also think in this case regulators should increase scrutiny in terms of these companies. Lastly, my advice to the citizenry is that take the formal way to prevent such cases.”

“There has to be an awareness which people are given advice of ways of investment. I also believe that when such things are happening, there is a huge appetite of people who want to invest so there is need to verify if the company is legit,” noted Dr Gwatidzo.

Another suspect Emmanuel Chikweza appeared in court on Saturday facing allegations of duping unsuspecting investors of US$80 000 after promising the complainant hefty monthly profits.

It, however, remains a mystery how Zimbabweans are falling for pyramid schemes even though thousands of people lost their fortune to pyramid schemes in the 1990s while a combined 10 000 others are still counting their losses after being duped in 2021.

Meanwhile, E-Creator prime suspects; Zhao Jiatong, Trymore Tapfumanei and Justin Kuchekenya have been further remanded in custody to Thursday for bail ruling.-ZBC News

‘Double-Candidate-Criminal’ ZEC Suffocates CCC Again Over Late Submissions

Zimbabwe Electoral Commission’s Double-Edged Sword: A Battle against the CCC Party.

By Farai D Hove | Analysis | The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) finds itself embroiled in yet another legal battle, this time with the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) party led by Nelson Chamisa. The controversy stems from ZEC’s refusal to remove double candidates filed under CCC, followed by its decision to wage a war against the party in court. ZEC accuses certain CCC candidates of filing their nomination papers late, leaving the party in a precarious position. This article examines the ongoing legal proceedings and their implications for the upcoming elections.

Background

On June 21, the Nomination Court sat to accept papers from aspiring candidates participating in the August 23 harmonized elections. The next day, ZEC allowed some candidates who had failed to file their papers on time to submit them. Among the late filers were candidates from various parties, including CCC, Zapu, Free Zim Congress, and the Zimbabwe African National Congress (ZANC).

ZEC’s Accusations and Legal Challenge

ZEC has since published the final list of candidates participating in the elections. However, twelve registered voters in Bulawayo, represented by Cheda and Cheda Associates, have filed urgent chamber applications at the Bulawayo High Court challenging ZEC’s decision to accept the nomination papers from the opposition party candidates. The applicants are seeking the disqualification of CCC candidates who allegedly filed their nomination papers outside the designated timeframes.

One of the applicants, Ms. Rachel Dube, argues in her affidavit that ZEC’s acceptance of the nomination papers from the CCC candidates is an illegality that should be declared null and void. She claims that despite the Nomination Court commencing at 10 AM on June 21, the nomination papers for the CCC candidates were in disarray. Ms. Dube argues that the actions taken by the provincial elections officer were solely aimed at accommodating the late-filing CCC candidates and their colleagues from the same political parties in other constituencies in Bulawayo.

Legal Arguments and Counterarguments

ZEC, represented by Mr. Tawanda Kanengoni, has opposed the application, asserting that the general division of the High Court lacks jurisdiction to hear the matter. ZEC argues that electoral disputes fall under the purview of the specialized Electoral Court. Furthermore, Professor Welshman Ncube, Advocate Thabani Mpofu, and other lawyers representing the CCC candidates contend that the High Court should strike the case off the roll, as it infringes upon the jurisdiction of the Electoral Court.

The CCC candidates’ legal representatives emphasize the need to establish the exact time the candidates arrived at the nomination court to file their papers. They argue that the applicants’ claims are based on hearsay evidence since they were not present at the court proceedings. They assert that the applicants are relying on “fairytales” and lack firsthand knowledge of the events.

Ruling and Implications

High Court judge Justice Bongani Ndlovu will rule on the preliminary arguments before the case proceeds on its merits. If the court upholds ZEC’s contention that the matter falls under the jurisdiction of the Electoral Court, it could potentially lead to the case being dismissed or transferred to the specialized court. On the other hand, if the High Court determines that it has the authority to decide declaratory matters, the case will proceed, and a final judgment will be delivered.

The outcome of this legal battle will have significant implications for the CCC party and the upcoming elections. If the CCC candidates are disqualified, it could potentially weaken the party’s representation and alter the political landscape. Conversely, if the court rules in favor of the CCC candidates, it may lead to questions regarding ZEC’s handling of the nomination process and the transparency of the electoral system.

Conclusion

The ongoing legal dispute between ZEC and the CCC party highlights the contentious nature of Zimbabwe’s electoral process. As the High Court prepares to make a ruling, the fate of the CCC candidates hangs in the balance. Regardless of the outcome, this case underscores the importance of upholding the rule of law, ensuring transparency in elections, and addressing disputes through appropriate legal channels to maintain the integrity of the democratic process in Zimbabwe.

Mr Mnangagwa Unleashes Patriotic Act

The enactment of Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Amendment Act, popularly referred to as the Patriotic Act, has been described as a progressive move that keeps Zimbabwe in sync with global standards in safeguarding national interests.

On the 11th of this month, the British National Security Act (NSA) received Royal Assent to operationalise legislation that deals with threats to the UK’s national security.

Two days later, Zimbabwe gazetted the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Amendment Act, an equivalent of the new British law that seeks to thwart acts of espionage and sabotage.

The West has, however, applied a two-faced approach to the two pieces of legislation.

While they have not seen anything wrong with the British National Security Act, the West has exposed its imperialist appetite by demonising Zimbabwe’s Patriotic Act.

This has not gone down well with political experts who believe the double standards are a direct threat to Zimbabwe’s sovereignty.

Assymetric Warfare expert Mr Tawanda David Gotami told the ZBC News, “11 July 2023 the National Security Act was promulgated into law, being described as the best to punish those who work with foreign governments to destabilise their country. The British are known for spying shenanigans. We followed a day later, it is a good one that reduces espionage, but now we are witnessing the British, the US who have such laws, trying to weaken our systems.”

Human rights activist and political analyst, Ms Abigail Mupambi weighed in saying Zimbabweans should celebrate the legislation at a time the west is exhibiting aggressive traits in its foreign policies.

“The Act is not for them, it’s for Zimbabwe, just like they have the Logan Act, they have their own, in the context of the Realism Theory, we now have a tool to guard our territory. They operate like the hyena, in geopolitics it’s key to safeguarding national interests. They are selling us a dummy, they are the British, their foreign policy is to prey on weaker nations. We saw it with Iraq, Libya, but we cannot fall into the same pit,” she said.

While the British have the National Security Act, the USA has the Logan Act, passed after George Logan’s unauthorised negotiations with France in 1798.

Zimbabwe has suffered the consequences of not having a similar legislation that protects national interests from internal and external threats, leading to instigation by some locals for Zimbabwe to be put under illegal economic sanctions at the turn of the millennium.-ZBC News

Bulawayo City Council (BCC) employees on Monday discovered at Babourfields Stadium, the body of a 47-year-old man believed to be a Dynamos fan, after the Glamour Boys’ 2-0 victory over Chicken Inn on Saturday.

The man, who has been identified as Gibson Mahachi from Matshobana surbub, was found dead by BCC workers cleaning the stadium.

He was wearing a Dynamos shirt and his body was discovered at Mpilo End—the section of Babourfields which usually houses the majority of DeMbare fans.

Ronaldo Dismisses Return To Europe

Cristiano Ronaldo has confirmed that he won’t be returning to play in Europe, where he believes most leagues there are in decline.

The Portuguese superstar joined Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr last December on a two-and-a-half-year deal following his exit from Manchester United.

The move ushered a wave of big-name transfers such as Karim Benzema, N’Golo Kante and Roberto Firmino.

Speaking postgame on Monday after Al Nassr’s friendly match vs. Spanish side Celta Vigo, Ronaldo told reporters the door back to European football is “completely closed.”

“I’m 100% sure I won’t return to any European club. I’m 38-years-old.

“European football has lost a lot of quality. The only valid one and still doing good is the (English) Premier League. They’re way ahead of all the other leagues.

“The Spanish league does not have that great quality. The Portuguese league is a good league, but it is not a top, top league. The German league I think has also lost a lot. I’m sure I won’t play in Europe again. I want to play in Saudi Arabia.”

Ronaldo also quelled the possibility of moving to USA after his Saudi Arabia adventure, saying the Saudi Pro League exceeds Major League Soccer.

He added: “Saudi league is better than MLS.

“I’m 100 percent sure I won’t return to any European club. I opened the way to Saudi league…and now all the players are coming here.”- Soccer24 News

Mnangagwa Sympathisers Praise Patriotic Bill

Mnangagwa Hires FRELIMO To Campaign For Zaanu PF

Mozambique’s ruling Front for the Liberation of Mozambique (FRELIMO) party is reportedly campaigning for ZANU PF in Chipinge South constituency, where Enock Porusingazi is the sitting legislator.

NewZimbabwe.com posted a video showing a FRELIMO official, whose name is not given, telling ZANU PF supporters in Chipinge South’s Ward 28 that businesspeople who fail to support ZANU PF in upcoming elections risk being shot and killed.

The official claimed he was in the company of an army commander adding that if ZANU PF loses to MDC and CCC, that will be the end of Zimbabwe’s relationship with Mozambique. Said the official:

FRELIMO’s message to businesspeople is that they should support Zanu PF; if they fail to do so we have brought with us a commander in our army, he shoots, and he will shoot as he does back home.

It is better that we end our relationship if Mnangagwa loses, we would not want you in Mozambique. We want you to support Porusingazi and Mnangagwa.

The FRELIMO head office says that we will not lose to the MDC or CCC.

The official said if ZANU PF loses, Mozambique will not allow Zimbabwean businesses to import fuel through the country.

In 2019, Mozambique threatened Zimbabwe with sanctions, after repeatedly warning Harare against imposing trade sanctions on a variety of goods exported from Maputo including alcohol.

Mozambique’s Minister of Trade and Commerce, Rajendra De Sousa allegedly told Zimbabwe President Emmerson Mnangagwa that the ban could be met with retaliation.

During a business seminar in Maputo, De Sousa told Mozambican industrialists that Zimbabwe had placed bottlenecks for trade between the neighbours in clear violation of the SADC Free Trade Protocol agreement.

The minister said that he told Mnangagwa that Mozambique could also close its border with Zimbabwe for three days which would complicate life for Harare.

ZANU PF and FRELIMO’s relationship goes back to the days of the liberation struggle when Mozambique provided sanctuary to thousands of ZANLA freedom fighters.

Uebert Angel Becomes More Gifted Than Actor Emmanuel Makandiwa

Controversy Surrounding Uebert Angel’s Ambassadorial Appointment to the said African Union (PAP) Pan African Parliament, a pressure group with no legislative powers.

Uebert Angel

By A Correspondent | ANALYSIS |  The recent appointment of Uebert Angel, Zimbabwe’s Ambassador At Large, as the African Union’s Pan African Parliament Ambassador for Interfaith Dialogue and Humanitarian Affairs has been met with skepticism and raised eyebrows. While Nehanda Radio reported the appointment, it is important to critically analyze the circumstances surrounding this decision and consider the controversy that has surrounded Angel’s previous ambassadorial position and his conduct as an envoy.

Questionable Previous Ambassadorial Appointment:

Uebert Angel’s first ambassadorial position in Zimbabwe, obtained in 2021, came under scrutiny when it was reported that he paid a substantial sum of USD 200,000 to Zimbabwe’s First Family to get the appointment passed after intervention through Emmerson Mnangagwa’s nephew, Tongai Mnangagwa, and the First Family’s twins.

Tongai Mnangagwa confirmed the development to ZimEye at the time just as the CIO (Central Intelligence Organisation) and Presidential staff members were at pains to stop the “president” from soiling himself with someone well known for money laundering and (per his own confessions) cash machine hacking. President Mnangagwa would soon regret the appointment when Angel leaked many high level money laundering operations that implicate many high profile Zimbabwe government persons who he would phone and allow undercover journalists to hear them speaking out loudly.

This revelation raises concerns about the transparency and legitimacy of the AU appointment process. All this casts doubt on the integrity of Angel’s ambassadorial role and raises questions about the motives behind his subsequent appointment to the African Union.

Lack of Performance and Criminal Accusations:

Since his appointment as Zimbabwe’s Ambassador At Large, there have been no notable achievements or tangible contributions attributed to Uebert Angel in his capacity as an ambassador. Additionally, serious issues particularly his involvement in illicit activities. The documentary “GoldMafia” revealed links between Angel and very clear money laundering operations. These accusations depict him as a member of a criminal network rather than an ambassador working towards the betterment of Zimbabwe and Africa as a whole. He is filmed arranging to transport 1,2billion dollars of dirty money to Zimbabwe.

Position as Ambassador at Large:

The title “Ambassador At Large” itself raises concerns. The term typically refers to an envoy who represents a country’s interests on specific issues. However, in this context, it seems to connote an individual granted excessive privileges and powers, possibly for personal gain. The absence of clear responsibilities and accountability raises further questions about the legitimacy and purpose of such a position.

Questionable Announcement and Confirmation:

The announcement of Uebert Angel’s appointment to the African Union’s Pan African Parliament Ambassador role has primarily been circulated through online media, with Nehanda Radio as the main source. The lack of official confirmation from the African Union itself adds to the uncertainty surrounding the legitimacy of this appointment. Given the controversies surrounding Angel’s previous ambassadorial position, it is crucial to exercise caution and await an official statement from the African Union regarding his appointment.

The appointment of Uebert Angel as the African Union’s Pan African Parliament Ambassador for Interfaith Dialogue and Humanitarian Affairs raises serious concerns. The revelations concerning a dubious payment for his previous ambassadorial position in Zimbabwe, the lack of performance in that role, and the criminal accusations against him suggest a troubling pattern. The position of Ambassador At Large and the absence of official confirmation regarding his African Union appointment add to the skepticism surrounding his credentials. Until more information is available and official statements are released, it is essential to approach this appointment with caution and uphold the principles of transparency, integrity, and accountability that should underpin such prestigious positions.

Macheso’s Daughter In Toxic Relationship

By- Sungura music legend Alick Macheso’s daughter, Stacey, has claimed she is in a toxic relationship with her husband, Tanto Wavie.

But Wavie, a Hip-hop musician, has denied ever abusing his wife.
Responding to his wife’s posts on Instagram, the musician said people should not believe everything they see on social media.
Speaking to H-Metro, Tanto Wavie, whose real name is Shingirai Makaza, said the spousal abuse allegations are completely false. He said:
Not everything you see on social media is true or relatable to us, these allegations are completely false and baseless.
My wife and I have a loving and supportive relationship built on mutual respect and trust.
My wife is an incredibly talented artist in her own right and has been my biggest supporter from day one.
I am so proud of everything she has accomplished and will always stand by her side no matter what.
Stacey had posted her thoughts on social media saying “Being a woman is totally difficult” and married women suffer constant abuse at the hands of their spouses with no one fighting in their corner.
She later said she was not being abused by her husband but was just worried about other people’s marriages after some of her followers inundated her inbox with messages of sympathy. She wrote:
I love my husband, we fight here and there but it doesn’t mean that I am being abused.

Gas Explosion In Johannesburg CBD

By A Correspondent | Authorities are assessing the extent of the damage caused by a massive gas explosion in the Johannesburg CBD. Videos circulating on social media platforms depict the aftermath, with cars overturned along Bree Street, highlighting the destructive force of the explosion.

The explosion occurred around 5:46 PM, according to an alert issued by the Johannesburg Joint Operating Committee of Alexandra, Midrand, Sandringham, and Sandton. Preliminary indications suggest that the blast may have originated from underground gas lines.

In response to the incident, the committee has urged the public to avoid the affected area to allow emergency services to carry out their duties effectively. Prompt action and coordination among various agencies will be crucial in managing the situation and providing assistance to those affected.

To ascertain the accuracy of the videos circulating on social media, Johannesburg Metro Police spokesperson Xolani Fihla has confirmed that officers have been dispatched to the scene. Their primary objective will be to verify the authenticity of the footage and gather additional information about the incident.

The effects of the explosion on nearby roads and the formation of sinkholes emphasize the need for comprehensive assessments and repairs to ensure the structural integrity of the affected areas. Efforts to address the immediate aftermath, provide support to affected individuals and businesses, and restore normalcy to the region will require a coordinated response from government agencies, emergency services, and the community.

The incident in Johannesburg serves as a somber reminder of the unpredictable nature of such events and underscores the importance of preparedness and resilience in the face of emergencies.

ER24, City of Johannesburg EMS, Disaster Management and several other services responded following the reports of the underground gas explosion.
“On scene, medics and rescue personnel discovered several overturned vehicles along the road, which seemed to have been split wide open,” ER24 said in a statement.
“Medics set up a triage area a safe distance away while Fire and Disaster Services evacuated the general area.
“Initial reports from the scene showed that several people had sustained minor to moderate injuries.
“The patients were treated for their injuries and later transported by various services to nearby hospitals.
“The exact details surrounding this incident are unknown, but the relevant authorities are on the scene for further investigations,” ER24 said.
The huge explosion causes a massive sinkhole in Joburg, South Africa.

Joburg Metro Police spokesperson Xolani Fihla said they had sent officers to the scene to confirm if the videos were true.
“At this stage we have sent officers to the scene to confirm if indeed the videos are true.
“At the present moment, all we know is what we have seen in the videos,” said Fihla.
Other widely recorded voice notes said affected streets in Joburg included Bree and Loveday Streets, and some cars had apparently sunk underground.
IOL photojournalist, Timothy Bernard, who was at the scene said he witnessed a 10-metre wide trench. He said there was a smell of gas in the air.

Mnangagwa Gold Smuggler Lands Another Top Diplomatic Post

He is filmed arranging to transport 1,2 bln dollars of dirty money to Zimbabwe.
The allegations of a dubious payment for his previous ambassadorial position in Zimbabwe, the lack of performance in that role, and the criminal accusations against him suggest a troubling pattern. Valerio Joins Zimbabwe’s Presidential Race

By A Correspondent- United Zimbabwe Alliance (UZA) President, Elizabeth Valerio’s appeal against the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission’s (ZEC) rejection of her nomination papers has been successful.

Valerio, the country’s only female presidential candidate, will now be included on the list of candidates competing for the presidency in the upcoming elections on 23 August 2023.

The decision by the electoral commission to initially reject Valerio’s nomination papers sparked controversy and drew widespread criticism from various quarters, highlighting concerns about gender representation in the political landscape.

However, the successful appeal has now opened up the presidential race, making it a more diverse and competitive field.

With Valerio’s inclusion, there are now a total of 12 candidates vying for the presidency. Among them, three prominent figures have emerged as the potential front runners, according to political analysts. Nelson Chamisa, representing the Citizens Coalition for Change party, has gained significant popularity and support among a wide range of Zimbabwean voters.

Emmerson Mnangagwa, representing the fractured post-military coup ZANU PF party, continues to maintain a strong base of support, particularly within traditional ZANU PF circles. Despite facing internal challenges, Mnangagwa is expected to put up a fierce fight for the presidency.

Adding an element of surprise to the race is the emergence of Saviour Kasukuwere, an independent candidate who has quickly gained attention as the “new kid on the block.” Kasukuwere’s unconventional approach and promises of political reform have resonated with some segments of the electorate, making him a potential wildcard in the upcoming elections.

Analysts and political observers have noted that it is difficult to determine Elizabeth Valerio’s exact position among the projected winners. With her successful appeal and the increased visibility as the only female presidential candidate, Valerio’s campaign is expected to gain momentum in the coming weeks. Her policies and vision for Zimbabwe will undoubtedly play a crucial role in shaping the narrative of her candidacy.

At the time of writing, a full statement from Elizabeth Valerio is anticipated, where she is expected to address her supporters and outline her plans for the nation. The inclusion of Valerio as a presidential candidate signifies a significant milestone in Zimbabwe’s political landscape, as it strives for greater gender equality and representation at the highest level of governance.

The upcoming 2023 elections are anticipated to be a closely contested race, with each candidate vying to secure the trust and mandate of the Zimbabwean people. As the nation eagerly awaits further developments, political analysts are closely monitoring the campaigns and assessing the potential outcomes of what is expected to be a historic election

CCC has failed to implement even one reform in 23 years and never will. “Yangova chechi yavaWisiri!

By Wilbert Mukori- Zviripapi! CCC yangova chechi yavaWisiri!” (What a waste! CCC is now a Wesley church building!) commented my cousin after attending Nelson Chamisa’s CCC 2023 election campaign launch in Mkoba, Gweru, on Sunday 16th July.

In my rural village, “Chechi yavaWisiri” was, during my youth, the byword for something not fit for the purpose, for pathetic failure.

The Wesley church members in my home area were allocated a piece of land on which to build their church. I remember a structure going up every few years only to be abandoned before it was complete. And after a few years work will start again on a new structure. Work will once again stop because the members had run out of ideas, money or something.

On one occasion, the structure build out of fired mud-bricks had gone up nearly roof level when there the rain season set in. It was not a particularly wet season. After a few weeks, cracks started appear on the wall. The walls were plastered to cover the cracks. To cut the long story short, the building was abandoned yet again before it was complete; no amount of mud plaster was ever going to hold up that mud-brick leaning tower of Pisa!

My cousin is a shrewd political activist and not to be confused with the brain dead political supporters, from both sides of the political divide, who follow the political leaders blindly, no questioned asked, like sheep to the slaughter. He joined the MDC soon after the party was launched in 1999 but his enthusiasm and zeal did not last. “We have too much dead wood, starting with Morgan Tsvangirai himself!” he explained to me at the time. Time has proven him right again and again.

Lest people forget, the people of Zimbabwe have risked life and limb (Zanu PF thugs have been ruthless with their political opponents and their supporters) to elect MDC (now rebranded as CCC) leaders into power on the promise the party will implement the necessary democratic changes to end the Zanu PF dictatorship. After 23 years, 5 of which in the GNU, MDC/CCC has not implemented even one token democratic reform. Worse still, the party has been participating in flawed elections to give Zanu PF legitimacy out of greed.

It was my cousin who brought David Coltart’s book to my attention, more specifically the confession on the futility of participating in flawed elections.

“The (2013) electoral process was so flawed, so illegal, that the only logical step was to withdraw, which would compel SADC to hold Zanu PF to account. But such was the distrust between the MDC-T and MDC-N that neither could withdraw for fear that the other would remain in the elections, winning seats and giving the process credibility,” confessed David Coltart in his Book, The Struggle Continues 50 years of Tyranny in Zimbabwe. could h where plaster e

My cousin tried his best to talk the likes of David Coltart, Tendai Biti and one or two others “with some grey stuff between their ears” to do the only rational thing – stop participating in flawed 2018 elections to perpetuate the dictatorship. The gravitation pull of greed, the call of the wild, was overwhelming; particularly now that Mugabe had nurtured and cultivated it during the GNU years.

“If there was any pretence of the party seeking democratic changes before the 2008 and 2013 GNU, the pretence died of neglect during the GNU,” explained my cousin.”Soon after the GNU the fight for reform and democratic changes was buried.

“Chamisa and company are now convinced they can win “rigged” elections and political power. At least, this is what they tell the wildebeest herd; cover for why they insist on participating in flawed elections.

“Zimbabwe is a failed state and the need to implement the democratic reforms and end the curse of rigged elections and bad governance is more urgent now that ever. Chamisa and his CCC friends are talking of regime change, that is the change they are now promising not reforms and free elections.

“So MDC/CCC has failed to deliver even one token reform in these last 23 years nor is it ever likely to do so in the future because the party has never had the quality leaders to understand the reforms much less the vision to implement them. MDC/CCC was never ever fit for purpose! Chechi yavaWisiri!”

My cousin had not bothered to register to vote for the 2018 elections when it became clear to him that MDC leaders were participating to give Zanu PF legitimacy out of greed. He is not going to vote next month and has been doing his best to explain the sheer futility of doing so to perpetuate the Zanu PF dictatorship and prop up corrupt, incompetent and utterly useless CCC!

Winston Chitando Thugs Destroy CCC Posters

At Chatikobo Business Centre in Gutu Central suspected Zanu PF hooligans defaced CCC candidate Matthew Takaona’s posters and then covered them with Zanu PF candidate and Minister of Mines Winston Chitando’s posters. The act is not only criminal but runs against the ZEC electoral code which every candidate including Chitando signed.

Chiwenga Praises Second “Repubrik”

Mashonaland Central province has pledged to contribute to the national gross domestic product through various sustainable projects, including the mining sector, agriculture and anticipated tourism boom in Kanyemba.

ZANU PF Vice President and Second Secretary General Retired Dr Constantino this Monday led the ruling party’s campaign trail to Mashonaland Central’s Mt Darwin South Constituency.

Addressing multitudes of party supporters at Chiunye Primary School, Dr Chiwenga said government is making progress in road rehabilitation for the province to benefit from the various mining companies that include, Freda Rebecca, Eureka, Ran Mine, the expected boom at Kanyemba Border Post as well as the Muzarabani Oil and Gas project.

“Here in mt Darwin we have a road which had become a problem, Ndoda, we want to tar it. Then the Rushinga-Chimhanda, Mt Darwen-St Alberts, Bindura-Matepatepa, Nyakasikana-Karanda; when we do that, we will be sure we would have solved the challenges facing Zimbabweans in this part of the country,” he said.

“In mineral, we have a mine to be opened at Glendale, Eureka, Mazowe, Shamvaand you know in Muzarabani there is an exploration for gas and oil,” he added.

He also spoke of the Rural Development 8.0 Model meant to uplift communal areas through programmes such as Pfumvudza/Intwasa in maize and cotton production, chicken rearing and borehole sinking programmes.

Vice President Chiwenga reiterated the party’s support to war collaborators in the province as government looks towards honouring these gallant sons and daughters of the struggle at this year’s Defence Forces Day.

“The issue was raised from all parts… and we said, what should we do? We gave something to our war veterans, we know it’s not enough, but year in, year out, we look at how to add to what we give to our war veterans. Now we have added the chimbwidos and mujibhas, so that they also get loans to farm.”

The party’s Vice President and Second Secretary scoffed at those planning to divide the ruling party by contesting as independent candidates, saying ZANU PF remains a formidable force.

Gems Ready To Take On Big Guns

The Zimbabwe senior netball team, the Gems have upped their tempo as they aim to give their opponents a run for their money when the Netball World Cup kicks off in South Africa next week.

Preparations have been on course for the past two months, giving the team enough time to gel and form combinations, before they take on the world’s best in South Africa.

The Gems, however, failed to secure friendlies with other national teams, but resorted to playing male opposition to improve their physical game and technical ability.

GEMS coach, Ropafadzo Mutsauki said, “We failed to secure friendlies with other countries, but when we played against the boys’ teams, we got the confidence that boys are stronger than girls, so we an advantage, but tactically speaking, the boys could be behind because the national team has experts, so we may lag behind in that respect. But we will rectify that during the friendlies that we will be playing in South Africa.”

After flying the nation’s flag high on their maiden World Cup appearance in Liverpool, England in 2019, the ladies are raring to go and improve on their finish at the last campaign.

“We are definitely ready to drop all the big teams, like Australia, Tonga, all teams in the group stage and then we proceed from there. We’ve been in camp, I think for two months now, so we’re ready. We were working on combinations and we are happy with the progress. Definitely, we’re going to give them a good run, they will run, work and we will beat them,” noted vice captain, Claris Kwaramba.

The Gems will fly to South Africa on the 20th of August, where they will begin their World Cup campaign against Australia on the 28th of August.

The Gems will then round up their group matches against Tonga and Fiji.-ZBC News

George Muwirimi was dragged to Mutoko magistrates courts soon after his arrest.

He appeared before magistrate Elijah Sibanda.

The state led by prosecutor Chipo Munemero requested that he be examined mentally by two medical  doctors.

Allegations are that on July 5, the suspect was caught raping a neighbour’s cow around 5am.

The neighbour managed to effect citizen arrest on him  and surrendered him to the police.

The matter continues on July 24.

“A Highly Questionable Visit”

Boxing great, Floyd Mayweather, was recently in Zimbabwe as part of his tour of Africa, which he coined “Money Man Tour”! It’s commendable that people of African descent, especially ones as prominent as Floyd Mayweather, make visits to the continent.

We should be promoting such visits at every turn because solidarity among all peoples of African descent is paramount. We are in this fight for freedom and prosperity together as a people with a similar history of slavery and colonialism. Martin Luther King said it best when he stated, “We must learn to live together as brothers or we will all perish together as fools.”

However, the former heavyweight champion’s trip was riddled with controversy due to its timing. Many have questioned as to why Mr. Mayweather made an appearance in Zimbabwe at this time? The country is holding nationwide elections in late August, and his trip was sponsored, organized and led by a candidate for the ruling ZANU-PF party, a Mr. Pedzisai “Scott” Sakupwanya, who was reported to having spent a large sum of money to host the former world heavyweight boxing champion. Sakupwanya is a controversial figure in politics, who is running for one of the parliamentary seats under the banner of the ruling ZANU-PF party.

While the controversial politician was showing Mr. Mayweather around the constituency he is competing in, “there was an outpouring of anger over his company’s mining operations in Manicaland province,” as reported by the local newspaper, Newsday. Newsday alleges that his company mining operations in eastern Zimbabwe have “caused untold suffering to communities” over the years.

A mine owned by his company, BetterBrands, was closed this year by government “following reports of at least 100 deaths since 2020 due to poor working conditions.” The Zimbabwean Centre for Research and Development, an independent institution has had a sustained campaign to hold BetterBrands to account over the deaths in Sakupwanya’s mines, mineral leakages and environmental degradation, gold smuggling, and lack of transparency. All these, it claims have been given a blind eye by the government.

Mr. Sakupwanya is also one of the characters named in the Al Jazeera documentary – The Gold Mafia, which exposed widespread corruption in gold smuggling in various African countries including Zimbabwe. The documentary heavily implicated the country’s president, Mr. Emmerson Mnangagwa and first lady Auxilia Mnangagwa as key elements in the illegal movement of gold and money in the country. Mr. Sakupwanya was described as one of the biggest gold barons in the money laundering corruption saga.

Perhaps Mr. Mayweather, who also visited with President Mnangagwa while in Zimbabwe, was not aware of any of these allegations about his host(s) but these are the kinds of individuals he was associating with. The current Zimbabwean leaders have spent the last 40 years presiding over the political and economic ruin of what was once a promising African success story. “Mr. Moneyman” spent his time in Zimbabwe visiting with people who have destroyed the country’s economy and infrastructure, agriculture, and health and education systems. And they are doing everything they can to perpetuate themselves in power by ensuring that they fraudulently win the upcoming election in August, 2023.

Perhaps Mr. Mayweather is also not aware of the gross human rights violations that were occurring and have been occurring in Zimbabwe prior to and even as he was there and when he left for South Africa. A duly elected member of parliament from the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change has been sitting in prison for over 300 days on false charges and has not been afforded his constitutional rights to a speedy and fair trial.

Opposition activists are routinely arrested and tortured, barred from holding rallies or political gatherings, and civic, religious and human rights and student activists subjected to sexual violence, torture and even murder. For example, Bishop Ancelimo Magaya, Grace Ablaze Ministries International and Divine Destiny Church, a visually impaired prominent government critic was on June 22, 2022 arrested in his church while he was in the middle of leading prayers, as he said, “for the country’s peace and prosperity.” He was whisked away by armed anti-riot officers, who arrested 36 more people in attendance, beating them with batons as they arrested them. “The level of anarchy manifesting through unlawful arbitrary arrests, torture of political victims, and denial of justice, and the killing with impunity of civilians by state agents is unparalleled and the church is obliged to admonish those in rulership,” said Bishop Magaya.

Zimbabwe is due to hold national elections at the end of August, 2023. The current government is doing everything it can to steal this election, including enacting laws that violate not only the country’s constitution but long established international human rights treaties that Zimbabwe has ratified, including, The Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), The African Charter on Human and People’s Rights (ACHPR) and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. Mr. Mayweather should do his research before embarking on African tours that link him with people and governments that demonstrate no respect for the people that they govern. Zimbabwe is one such country.

Mr. Mayweather was reportedly feted at five star hotels and given high scale receptions on his visit. He need not have looked too far from where he was luxuriating to see for himself poverty and high unemployment, rotting infrastructure, hospitals without proper facilities and medicines, dilapidated buildings, and perhaps a woman and her children on a street talking about a missing husband or brother imprisoned for his political beliefs or for simply urging people to register and vote.

DeMbare Fan Succumbs To Mutoriro

Bulawayo City Council (BCC) employees on Monday discovered at Babourfields Stadium, the body of a 47-year-old man believed to be a Dynamos fan, after the Glamour Boys’ 2-0 victory over Chicken Inn on Saturday.

The man, who has been identified as Gibson Mahachi from Matshobana surbub, was found dead by BCC workers cleaning the stadium.

He was wearing a Dynamos shirt and his body was discovered at Mpilo End—the section of Babourfields which usually houses the majority of DeMbare fans.

“On July 17, at around 7AM, a Bulawayo City Council general hand was doing her cleaning duties at Barbourfields Stadium. When she approached Mpilo End bay she saw a body of the now deceased lying on the steps leading to the terraces. A police report was made,” Bulawayo Police said in a statement.

“Investigations were carried out and it was revealed that the now deceased was one of the fans who were at Barbourfields Stadium during the Dynamos and Chicken Inn match and was drinking some hot stuff (strong distilled liquor) with his friends.”

Dynamos are temporarily using Babourfields as their home venue but were the away team against Chicken Inn, and got the better of the Gamecocks through second half goals from Elton Chikona and Eli IIunga.-Soccer24 News

CR7 Not Returning To Europe

Gems Ready To Excel

Zanu PF Thugs Deface CCC Posters In Gutu

At Chatikobo Business Centre in Gutu Central suspected Zanu PF hooligans defaced CCC candidate Matthew Takaona’s posters and then covered them with Zanu PF candidate and Minister of Mines Winston Chitando’s posters. The act is not only criminal but runs against the ZEC electoral code which every candidate including Chitando signed.

Court Sets Chamisa MPs Disqualification Hearing Date

By-The Electoral Court will tomorrow hear a dozen applications filed by Zanu PF activists seeking to disqualify CCC National Assembly candidates in Bulawayo from the 23 August elections.

According to ZimLive, the court ordered the 12 applications, filed simultaneously, to be consolidated due to similar facts.
The applicants, who only describe themselves as “registered voters”, are seeking to have CCC, other opposition parties, and independents barred from contesting.
They are arguing that the defendants filed their nomination papers after the regulated time of 4 PM on 21 June and should not be allowed to contest.
If the applications succeed, ZANU PF could win all 12 National Assembly seats in Bulawayo unopposed.
In the 2018 general elections, the MDC Alliance, which was the main opposition won 11 of the 12 seats.
ZANU PF’s Raj Modi won Bulawayo South after the MDC Alliance fielded double candidates and split its vote.
Meanwhile, CCC argues that all its candidates in Bulawayo filed their papers by 4 PM, but the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) asked the candidates to correct some signature anomalies on the forms.
The party argues that its candidates were ready to file the corrected forms by 4 PM, and were present at the Nomination Court, but ZEC was now assisting other candidates, the party argues.
The process continued into the wee hours of 22 June.
CCC has its own application filed by the 10 candidates for the Provincial Council who were disqualified.
The candidates argued in a court filing that their papers were delivered to ZEC before 4 PM, but the nomination papers appear to have suddenly disappeared while in the court’s custody.

Cop Under Fire For Arresting A Zanu PF Thug Defacing CCC Posters

By-A Midlands-based police officer has been assaulted and threatened by the Environment, Climate, Tourism and Hospitality Deputy Minister Barbara Rwodzi for arresting a Zanu PF supporter for pulling down CCC posters.

NewsDay reported that Rwodzi insulted the police officer as he was preparing a docket against the ZANU PF supporter, only known as Danger who is believed to be part of her campaign team.
In a three and half minute’s audio, Rwodzi is heard calling Assistant Inspector Matsa, based at Charandura Police Station, a “stupid idiot”.
The Chirumanzu South MP also threatened to deal with the police officer.
Rwodzi told the senior cop that she will deal with him “in front of (Godwin) Matanga”, the Police Commissioner-General. She was recorded saying:
I will finish with you. Do you think CCC will win? Urimbwa (you are a dog), you are stupid go and report wherever you want.
I am going to finish you, Matsa. I will fight you to the end. Urimbwa (you are a dog).
The police officer, however, stood his ground insisting that he was only doing his job. He said:
Mai Rwodzi, you don’t have to be personal and call me stupid.
But Rwodzi told the cop that he should report her for calling him an idiot.
She said he should have discussed the matter with his superior and other officers at the station before opening a docket against a ZANU PF activist.
Rwodzi also said she will not be lectured about laws because she was responsible for making laws in the country as a Member of Parliament.

Minister In Abuse Of Office Storm

ZANU PF’s Chirumanzu South Member of Parliament (MP) Barbara Rwodzi has been recorded threatening to deal with an Assistant Inspector in the ZRP for daring to investigate a criminal case against one of her supporters.

In the audio recording the Deputy Minister of Environment, who is seeking a second term in office, is heard threatening to deal with the Charandura stationed officer and promising to take the matter as high as Police Commissioner General Godwin Matanga.

The officer is reportedly investigating one Fidelis “Danger” an ardent supporter of the Pan African Parliament (PAP) member accused of tearing CCC posters in the area.

Describing the officer as a dog, idiot, and fool Rwodzi goes on to unsuccessfully demand all evidence against her supporter.

“You are the one handling Danger’s case? What is his crime? Do you have evidence, I want it and when did he commit this crime,” asked Rwodzi.

“I am following everything you are doing. I am not like all these other people you are used to talking to.

“You are failing to do your job as a police officer, on 12 July I was with him. As an Assistant Inspector and your seniors can you not sit and discuss matter before presenting them to Law and Order?

“You are a stupid idiot, you are a f…ing idiot, a dog. I want to finish you, I want to take you as far as Matanga’s office.”

Rwodzi’s conduct follows rape allegations placed on her PAP colleague and President Fortune Charumbira earlier this year.

The Assistant Inspector however stands his ground, telling her she has no legal right to demand that adding any other information in Danger’s defence can be used in court.

He explains why her Zanu PF supporter is being investigated and begs to understand the vitriol directed at him.

“Danger is accused of tearing CCC posters. I am working on this document so that I present it in court and do not know why I would give you all this information,” responds the officer.

“We have a witness and that he was not there on the day can be used as a defence in court. I do not understand stand what you say by ‘sitting down with my superiors before passing the matter to law and order.’

“I do not know why you are insulting me because I do not know how I am failing to do my job. You have to understand my mandate as a police officer.”

Chirumanzu is another one of Zimbabwe’s political hotbeds, with frequent attacks on opposition supporters recorded particularly towards elections.

Already party officials in the Mapiravana area are said to taking down names of villagers and marking registers with the assistance of Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) backed Forever Associates of Zimbabwe (FAZ).

President Chamisa For Everyone

Tinashe Sambiri

The Citizens Coalition for Change(CCC) has launched a dynamic campaign policy dubbed For Everyone.

For Everyone stipulates that all citizens have a role to play in the struggle for democracy.

On Saturday President Chamisa wrote on Twitter:

“BUMPER YELLOW…A New direction for /Zimbabwe and #ForEveryone We are nation builders.

#OnePeople

“GET YOURSELF READY.

Arise and tell them everything that I command you. Do not be intimidated by them, or I will terrify you…

Jeremiah 1:17-19. Blessed Sabbath #FakaPrayer. “

Those who fail to learn from history are condemned to repeat it.” Are we condemned to repeated rigged elections!

By Wilbert Mukori- In a 1948 speech to the House of Commons, Winston Churchill paraphrased Santayana when he said ‘Those who fail to learn from history are condemned to repeat it.’

Zimbabwe had all the potential to become the South Korea of Africa, a free democratic and prosperous nation, as the Japanese school Ken Yamamoto observed soon after Zimbabwe’s independence. Instead, after 43 years, he have become just another failed African country; a pariah state ruled by corrupt, incompetent and murderous thugs who have stayed in power all these years because the rigged elections.

Let’s face it; we are a failed state because we have failed to learn from history and have and continue to pay dearly for it.

It took Zimbabweans nearly 20 years to accept the political reality that Robert Mugabe and his Zanu PF cronies were corrupt, incompetent and murderous thugs. Having embrace the Zanu PF men and women as the nation’s liberation heroes and heroines it was a bitter pill to swallow that the same men and women would deny the people their basic freedoms and rights including the right to a meaningful say in the governance of the country and even the right to life.

The evidence that Mugabe and company did not care about the freedoms and rights of the ordinary people were there all along; it was the people who refused see and believe their own eyes. During the fight to end white colonial rule, Mugabe and his Zanu PF nationalists had promised “One man, one vote!” for example. And yet Zanu PF made it clear that if the regime was to lose the 1980 elections, the bush war would continue.

Of course, the people voted to end the war and, in doing so, lost their right to a meaningful say in the governance of the country to this day!

It was not until the late 1990s, nearly 20 years after Zanu PF rigged the 1980 elections to impose a de facto one-party dictatorship, that the nation finally reached the consensus on the need to implement democratic reforms to restore the individual freedoms and rights.

After the blatant betrayal by Zanu PF thugs, one would have thought Zimbabweans would be diligent in their selection of the men and women they would entrust the task of implementing the reforms. Or, at the very least, not repeat the same mistake of treating these leaders as demigods who must not be questioned much less held to democratic account, as they did with Mugabe et al.  Alas! That was not to be!

The people of Zimbabwe have risked life and limb to elect MDC/CCC leaders into power on the promise they would implement the democratic changes the nation was dying for. After 23 years, 5 of which in the 2008 to 2013 GNU, Chamisa and his MDC/CCC friends have failed to implement even one token reform. Worse still, they have been participating in these flawed elections, perpetuating the dictatorship – the very thing they were entrusted to end – out of greed.

If Zimbabwean had been diligent and attentive then they would have realised that MDC/CCC leaders had sold out by failing to implement any reforms during the GNU. Or, at the very least, figured out for themselves at the sheer futility of participating in these flawed elections without first implementing reforms.

Coltart’s confession has not helped the penny drop. Whilst most Zimbabweans accept that Zanu PF is rigging these elections, they are participating in the flawed elections because they believe CCC’s oxymoronic claim that the party has winning in rigged elections strategies (WIRES).

These WIRES and claims that CCC will “win big” are just hot air to hide the real reasons why Chamisa and company are hell bent on participating no matter how flawed and legal the process got – greed and incompetence. It was the same reasons why MDC leaders failed to implement even one reform in five years of the GNU.

It is insane that anyone, much less the whole populous, would believe in these WIRES nonsense, especially after 43 years of Zanu PF mafiosi rigging elections. We really are a nation refusing to learn from history!

Still, these people who are ignoring the warning and insist on participating in the flawed elections will sober up on the 24 August 2023, the day after voting day, as Zanu PF claims yet another landslide victory. They will complaining that Zanu PF rigged the elections, conveniently forgetting they had rejected the advice to have reforms before elections because they had a winning strategy to each and every vote rigging Zanu PF shenanigan.

By insisting on participating in these flawed elections Zimbabweans are not only giving legitimacy to Zanu PF but are forfeiting the right to complain about the rigged elections. Voter beware! Buyer beware! Caveat emptor!

It is too late to get the elections postponed. The opposition leaders’ last chance to pressure Zanu PF to clean up the election was by refusing to participate without the verified voters’ roll. They topped over each other to submit their nomination papers and the chance was lost.

Still, the ordinary Zimbabwean can register their disapproval of the flawed and illegal election process by refusing to attend with Zanu PF and opposition rallies and refusing to vote. They will do even better by publicly denouncing the flawed process and the opposition for selling out. It is not too late to let the whole world know but especially SADC that these elections are flawed and that Zanu PF must not be granted legitimacy.

After 43 years of rigged elections, 2 500 years after the Greeks gave mankind democracy as a system of government; we should know that these flawed and illegal 2023 Zimbabwean elections are a farce. And should have the common sense to demand an end to this insanity.

Seek A Gvt That Cherishes Prosperity- Madhuku

Lovemore Madhuku, the National Constitutional Assembly (NCA) president, has stated that the chaotic scenes of crowds scrambling for free groceries at ZANU PF rallies are a sign of the government’s failure.

Speaking at a meeting in Chinhoyi, Madhuku emphasised that Zimbabweans were suffering at the hands of the ruling elite, who must be removed during the August 23 harmonised elections. Madhuku urged citizens to seek a government that cherishes prosperity and indicated that every ZANU PF rally is evidence of failure. He said:

Citizens should seek a government that cherishes prosperity. Remember there is Madhuku who will be on the ballot paper on 23 August vying for president. There would be others but don’t vote for them.

If this country was ruled effectively, people would have adequate food stocks in their households, they shouldn’t go to rallies to get basic commodities.

If people had cooking oil, rice and mealie-meal, they would not go to a rally to get these things, but go and contribute to nation building through exchanging views and ideas, and listen to what the leadership is promising.

Attending rallies in order to get these things is evidence of failure because the masses are suffering.

People should come voluntarily (to rallies) using their own money because they would be in a position to afford. Every ZANU PF rally is evidence of failure.

He further urged the electorate to vote for NCA in upcoming polls and remove Mnangagwa’s regime, which has not succeeded in improving Zimbabwe’s economic situation.

Madhuku also reiterated the need to rejig the 2013 national Constitution, which he said was a compromise document agreed between late former president Robert Mugabe and Morgan Tsvangirai, the then opposition front-man.

Madhuku has contested previous presidential polls, and despite his unwavering determination to land the presidency, he has fared dismally in past plebiscites. His participation in elections is largely viewed by detractors as a sideshow to give credence to a supposed democratic society.

The situation in Zimbabwe is dire, with some members of the public attending rallies for food and free groceries as they are unable to afford them. The economy has been in collapse for years, with some analysts claiming that the government deliberately caused this to make the electorate dependent on them. By controlling the distribution of resources, they can manipulate the voting process, determining who gets what, when, and how. Those who do not support the government risk missing out on these essential goods. Some of the goods donated at these rallies include farming inputs such as fertilizers and seeds, groceries, as well as party regalia.

ZINWA Says Kunzvi Dam 64% Incomplete

The Zimbabwe National Water Authority (ZINWA) says the construction of Kunzvi Dam in Mashonaland East Province is now 36 percent complete.

The dam is being built by a Chinese company 67 kilometres northeast of Harare, near Juru Growth Point on the Nyanguvi River, which separates Goromonzi and Murehwa districts.

When completed, the dam is expected to solve Harare’s perennial water shortages.

Speaking to New Ziana, ZINWA corporate communications and marketing manager Marjorie Munyonga, said:

The Zimbabwe National Water Authority (ZINWA) wishes to advise the public and stakeholders that the construction of Kunzvi Dam, in Mashonaland East remains on course with the dam now 36 percent complete.

Current work at the site includes excavation of the core trench, grouting on the core trench invert, backfill on the core trench, placing fill material on the fill zone and construction of a masonry downstream access bridge.

Other works include the placement of riprap on the upstream slope, the placing of coarse filter on the upstream slope, outlet trench excavation and construction of remaining houses at the ZINWA senior camp.

Construction of the dam was first mooted in 1912. It has been shelved over the years due to financial challenges and only began in 2021. It is expected to be completed at the end of 2024.

Harare’s main source of water, Lake Chivero, is heavily polluted by sewerage water and effluent from industries.

Due to the complete breakdown of the reticulation system, raw sewerage from residential areas and effluent from industries flows directly into Lake Chivero.

This has forced the Harare City Council to spend about US$3 million every month to buy more than 11 chemicals that it uses to treat the water.

Kunzvi Dam is expected to provide Harare with “clean” water, less costly than Lake Chivero.

Altercation With Botswana Based Mother Ends In Tragedy For 17-Year-Old Byo Girl

17-year-old girl from Cowdray Park allegedly committed suicide by hanging from a tree after an altercation with her Botswana-based mother.

The teenager identified as Angela Ncube allegedly had a fall-out with her mother after she had disciplined her younger sister.

A CITE news crew visited the family on Monday and spoke to family members and the landlord where the teen rented a room, who narrated the details that led to the incident.

Ncube was found hanging from a tree near Cowdray Park Secondary School, a short distance from her home, tied with a rope similar to that used for towing cars.

“I have been staying with the two girls for a while now. It was her and her young sister aged 10. Their parents are in Botswana where they work. On Saturday morning, around 10 AM, she had an altercation with her young sister and she beat her. I then talked to them and reprimanded them both and told Angela not to beat her sister when they argue,” said the landlady who identified herself as Ms Dube.

“I then went outside later on in the afternoon to attend a community meeting. I saw Angela on my way there, she was coming from her vending stall. She greeted me and proceeded to the house. Nothing seemed amiss about her.”

Ms Dube said Angela returned home around 5 pm from her vending stall and cooked supper.

“I saw her cooking around 6 pm and they ate with her sister. I later went to bed. I didn’t notice anything suspicious. In the morning I was woken by some neighbours who told me that a person, similar to Angela, had been found hanging from a tree,” she narrated.

“I then called her little sister and she told me that Angela left in the night after a phone call with her mother. They had discussed the incident about her beating her young sister. She (young sister) said Angela told her she was leaving and they would meet at the cemetery. I rushed to the scene and I confirmed that indeed it was her.”

Her maternal family members who had gathered at the house said they were distressed over the incident and it was hard for them to accept that Angela had taken her life.

“We are shocked. It is hard to accept that she is gone. She was such an obedient child, she would not have been capable of doing such a thing. There is a lot that is amiss about this whole incident. That rope is too big, where could she have acquired it? How did she even climb that tree she hung from? It is too big and it has no lower branches, we have a lot of questions,” Ms Khumalo, Angela’s aunt said.

Bulawayo police acting spokesperson Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele confirmed the incident.

She said the police were called on Sunday morning around 7 am and investigations are underway.

“On July 16, 2023, at around 7 am, the informant, Viyisiwe Dube advised ZRP Cowdray Park through a phone call to the effect that her tenant Angela Ncube had hanged herself on a tree which is at Cowdray Park Secondary School Grounds. ZRP Cowdray Park and Scenes of Crime attended the scene and observations are that; the deceased Angela Ncube used a rope to hang herself on a big tree which is at Cowdray Park Secondary School grounds. The deceased was putting on black grey slippers, Cream Socks, Blue skin jean trousers and a Gray jacket. The body of the deceased was inspected and had no visible injuries. No suicidal note was noted,” Asst Insp Msebele said.

UZ Students Finally Granted Bail

Harare High Court judge Lucy Mungwari has granted bail to four student activists who were arrested two months ago charged with painting graffiti on some prominent city buildings in protest over the continued incarceration of Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) lawmaker legislator Job Sikhala.

The four, who are University of Zimbabwe students, are Emmanuel Sitima, 24, Comfort Mpofu, 22, Tawanda Watadza, 24, and Lionel Wadamombe.

The students, who are members of ZINASU, were all ordered to deposit Z$500,000 bail each.

The students approached the higher court after Harare magistrate Learnmore Mapiye had denied them bail stating that there was a strong case against them.

The magistrate had said the activists should be denied their freedom to send a message to would-be offenders that tampering with state institutions will not be tolerated.

The students are facing seven counts of malicious damage to property, and are alternatively being charged with counts of criminal nuisance.

Allegations are that on May 14, 2023, the four, together with others who are still at large, went around protesting for the release of Sikhala from pre-trial detention.

It is alleged that the students defaced government buildings in the Harare CBD and spray painted the words “Free Wiwa”, “Free Job Sikhala”.

Prosecutors allege they drew graffiti on the High Court of Zimbabwe building walls, Parliament building, the Methodist Trinity Church building and the Constitutional Court building.

They allegedly did the same at the Harare Civil Court, Runhare House building and at Karigamombe Centre.

Political Parties Urged To Promote Peace

A peace advocacy group, 4H Zimbabwe, has called on political parties and media organizations to disseminate nonviolent content before, during, and after the upcoming harmonized elections on August 23.

During a media engagement meeting held in Harare on Wednesday, the Executive Director of 4H Zimbabwe, John Muchenje, emphasized the crucial role that political parties and the media play in fostering a peaceful electoral process.

Muchenje urged political parties to avoid spreading content that incites violence, highlighting the potential harmful consequences such messages could have on the electorate and the nation as a whole.

“We are striving to promote peace between political parties and subsequently between political parties and the media, recognizing the significance of both,” said Muchenje.

He added, “We encourage political parties to disseminate content that does not fuel violence. The same message applies to the media, which serves as an important tool in promoting peace before, during, and after elections.”

Also speaking at the event, Obert Gutu, a representative of the National Peace and Reconciliation Commission (NPRC), urged citizens to report any incidents of violence to his organization.

He stated, “If anyone has complaints, they should approach us because we cannot actively seek out grievances on the streets. Without reports being brought to our attention, we cannot accurately gauge the situation. We do not engage in hunting for complaints or go on witch-hunts.”

Gutu’s response was in reaction to accusations made by Stephen Chuma, a representative of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), who criticized the NPRC for allegedly disregarding multiple reports of violence targeting his party members, including the Kwekwe incident that resulted in the death of Mboneni Ncube in the lead-up to the by-elections held in March 2022.

The media engagement meeting aimed to promote peace before, during, and after the elections. It brought together representatives from various political parties, including Zanu PF, the Citizens Coalition for Change, and the MDC led by Douglas Mwonzora.

Chiwenga Mocks Kasukuwere

By- Vice President Constantino Chiwenga on Monday invaded former President Robert Mugabe’s cabinet minister, Saviour Kasukuwere’s home area and denounced the former Zanu PF political commissar.

Chiwenga was at Chiunye Primary School in Mt Darwin South constituency, where Kasukuwere hails from.

One of Mugabe’s G-40 King pins, Kasukuwere, was disqualified last week as a presidential election candidate by the High Court.
This was after the court found that the former legislator for Mt. Darwin South had failed to meet the basic requirement of being a registered voter to enable him to contest in the August 23 elections.

Addressing the gathering, Chiwenga said he was heartened by the people of Mt Darwin’s high level of political maturity and consciousness which saw them distancing themselves from Kasukuwere’s failed attempt for the presidency.
He said such political consciousness, horned in the liberation struggle, had been a key cog in Mt Darwin’s resolute support for the quest for independence.
He paid tribute to the ruling party’s supporters for continuing to back the revolution particularly at a time President Mnangagwa had set the economy on a path to rapid economic growth.
“What we want is for people to follow the national Constitution if they want to participate in elections,” said Chiwenga.
“There is this gentleman who comes from near this place. He sold out and sought to take the ruling party as personal property. That is impossible. Zanu PF cannot fit in anyone’s pocket but we all fit inside Zanu PF.
“This idea of trying to disrupt our elections will not succeed. If you grandstand, undermining our processes it is you who will fail.
“Our Constitution is clear that our courts are there to interpret the law. If you fall foul of the law, you can’t turn around and start maligning others who were not part to your transgressions,” said Chiwenga.
The Constitution, under Section 169, stipulated that if one wanted to participate in elections, there was a period one was expected to be ordinarily resident in the country.
“That law cannot be changed to suit anybody. It is the law. If you want to be a candidate, you must meet the minimum set requirements,” he said.
Chiwenga said the ruling party and its presidential candidate were ready to face anybody at the polls and were confident of romping to victory on the back of economic development projects being championed by the Second Republic.
He implored the electorate to resoundingly vote for President Mnangagwa and the ruling party candidates so that the Second Republic could continue with the development work currently being championed across the country.
Mt Darwin South ruling party parliamentary candidate Kudakwashe Mupamhanga said the revolution was safe as people in the constituency were ready to affirm it by resoundingly voting for President Mnangagwa on August 23.
“Former members are not members and sellouts will not be tolerated and all those who want to rejoin the party should do so in a proper way like what the Vice President has said.”
Mupamhanga said: “We are emboldened, stronger and energised, ready for the harmonised elections to win for the party and vote for President Mnangagwa. August 23 is a forgone conclusion.”

We Are Winning, Claims Mnangagwa

President Emmerson Mnangagwa, who is also the ZANU PF First Secretary, has urged the nation to embrace peace as the August 23 general elections draw close.

He was addressing thousands of ZANU PF supporters gathered at Chinorumba Secondary School in Zaka this Sunday.

President Mnangagwa said everyone, including the opposition, must preach the gospel of peace.

“We began our rallies in the East, where the sun rises so that new things may come upon Zimbabwe as we win the 23 August elections. There were lots of people there but here in Masvingo, you have surpassed that. We have also been to Bulilima in Matabeleland South, and the turnout was huge.

“We should work together from the East to the South; we preach unity, peace, harmony, love. Whoever wants to join us should do so in our own song, they should not come with their own songs.

“The first thing which is important for the growth and development of our country is the keeping of peace. Since we began this campaign, there is peace in this country. I hear some other political party is having its rally in Gweru, i hope they embrace the peace prevailing in the country,” said the President.

“As we work together for our country, with respect among us, even our ancestors are pleased. See how beautiful it is when we all sit together as one, planning for the growth of our country. Those from the West wish the people of Zimbabwe to rise against the Government, but you are humiliating them by not doing so.”

The President chided the West for imposing sanctions on Zimbabwe, which he said have failed to separate the people from the ruling party.

“Those that had put us on sanctions thought this would make you rise against government, but you have proven otherwise. We should be proud to be Zimbabweans.

“Adoption of Pfumvudza addresses the issue of food security at household level. Free inputs are being given to small scale farmers and at household level. Commercial farmers are getting loans and we have so far realised 3 years of food security. We are now able to assist some countries including our friends in Rwanda. We used to buy wheat from Ukraine and fertilizer from Russia. But we are now making inroads into producing our own fertilizer and the wheat yield is increasing and now we no longer import,” he added.

He said the people’s welfare is a primary concern of the Second Republic so that people get out of poverty.

“Be someone who is remembered for preaching peace and unity, even after your death.”

“Our drone has counted you and you are more than 124 000. Mavhenyengwa and Chadzamira, you take the trophy,” said President Mnangagwa.

He reiterated, “We dont accept hate speech. We accept people may have different views, it’s expected, that is democracy. To all aspiring candidates, know that the people are the bosses. Those that put you into leadership positions, the people, are the bosses and you should respect them.”

Added President Mnangagwa, “We must be proud that we are Independent, we are a free people. We must be respected. We will not accept to be treated as second hand citizens.

We are equal to every single member of the United Nations. No nation should ever look down upon you. You are royal people. We are a great nation, we must never think we are inferior. We have a great country.”

“Thank you for coming out in numbers. I urge you to remain united and disciplined, under ZANU PF. Let us go and mobilise for the victory of our colossal Party. Our party shuns violence. Victory is certain. God bless Masvingo God bless Zimbabwe.”-ZBC News

Taking Care Of The Elderly

Give them a stairlift as a gift.

In some countries, the health sector has taken a leading role in raising public concern about abuse of older people, while in others the social welfare sector has taken the lead. Globally, too little is known about elder abuse and how to prevent it, particularly in developing countries.
