Chiwenga Mourns Catholic Sister

It was with trepidation that I learnt of the death of Sister Margaret McAllen at St Anne’s Hospital, on the morning of Thursday, 20 July 2023. She was blessed with a long life, having been born on 2 February 1942 in Galway, Ireland.

Sister Margaret came to Zimbabwe in July 1983 and humbly volunteered to execute her missionary work as a Sister, at Murambinda Mission Hospital, in Buhera District. She served the Buhera community, particularly the underprivileged, with pastoral passion and inculcated the Christian values of love, empathy and peaceful co-existence that shaped many, especially among the youth, to become responsible citizens.

The late Sister Margaret proceeded to faithfully serve communities beyond the call of duty when she co-founded the Mashambanzou Care Trust with Sister Noreen Nolan, in 1989.

Trust became an important cogwheel in the big fight against illnesses, such as Cancer and HIV/AIDS. It catered for terminally ill patients when the community was still sceptical and shunned those affected as outcasts. Sister Margaret and her co-founder of the Trust remained consistent in embracing such unfortunate victims by giving them free treatment, care and rehabilitation. The death of Sister Margaret, therefore, leaves us spiritually poorer and saddened. She remained steadfast in serving the Lord and gave many people hope and a reason to live. Her immense contribution to the spiritual well-being of communities shall always be cherished.

May her dear soul rest in eternal peace.

Dodgy Bail and Threats in Bogus Legal Certificate Scam: Pastor Kasi, Ivy Kombo

By A Correspondent | In a shocking turn of events, ZimEye News Network has uncovered disturbing revelations about the arrest of Huggins Hardwork Duri, who was allegedly involved in a scam issuing fake legal practice certificates. Despite being apprehended for criminal abuse of office, Mr. Duri was never truly detained and was granted bail on the very first day he appeared in court.

According to the latest information disclosed to ZimEye, Huggins Duri, the Council for Legal Foundation executive secretary, who is accused of dishing out bogus legal practice certificates to 19 undeserving individuals, including Pastor Admire Kasi and his wife Ivy Kombo, was allowed to walk free on bail immediately after his initial court appearance. This raises serious questions about the integrity of the justice system and the severity of consequences faced by corrupt individuals in Zimbabwe.

What makes this situation even more alarming is that Huggins Duri is reportedly leveraging his connections to the First Family, being the son of a late confidant, to intimidate authorities. He is allegedly threatening to name-drop high-ranking individuals in the legal profession, which could potentially hinder a fair investigation into the extent of this scandal and those involved.

The background of the story reveals that the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (Zacc) stumbled upon this elaborate scam after receiving a tip-off from an individual who was supposed to write a conversion examination. The Council for Legal Education is the body responsible for regulating legal education and training in Zimbabwe, including administering conversion examinations for foreign legal qualifications.

According to the State’s case, on June 19 this year, Duri had a meeting with students who had completed their law studies at the University of Zimbabwe as part of a bridging program after obtaining legal qualifications from foreign universities. During this meeting, Duri allegedly offered to help these students bypass the conversion examination required by the council.

Following this meeting, on June 20, Duri met with the informant and promised to assist him in obtaining the certificate needed to register as a lawyer. He even suggested that the informant should register for the examination and pay a hefty fee of US$560, assuring him that Duri would ensure he received the certificate, regardless of his performance on the test.

However, the informant, realizing the seriousness of the situation, reported the matter to Zacc on June 21, leading to Duri’s arrest while he was receiving the money. Zacc’s investigation revealed that Duri had fraudulently issued 19 certificates to various individuals, some of whom were already practicing as legitimate lawyers, posing a significant threat to the reputation of the legal profession in Zimbabwe.

The ease with which Mr. Duri was granted bail, coupled with his reported threats to name-drop influential figures, has raised concerns about the impartiality and effectiveness of the legal system in dealing with cases of corruption and abuse of office. The public demands answers and accountability for such acts that undermine the credibility of the legal fraternity and the nation as a whole.

ZimEye will continue to closely follow this story and bring you further updates as they unfold. It is essential to shed light on such corruption and ensure that justice is served without fear or favor, regardless of one’s connections or status.

Zimbabwean Clubs Miss Champions League

Zimbabwe will this year have no representatives in the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup despite the lifting of the international ban this month.

The country spent the past year in the cold after FIFA raised sanctions following the Sports and Recreation Commission’s (SRC) suspension of the ZIFA board.

The ban was lifted over a week ago after the appointment of a ZIFA Nomalisation Committee, allowing the nation to take part in international tournaments.

The Warriors were even included in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers draw conducted last week.

However, Castle Lager Premiership champions FC Platinum and Chibuku Super Cup winners Bulawayo Chiefs will not take in the Champions League and the Confederation Cup, respectively.

This was confirmed by CAF ahead of Tuesday’s draw in Cairo, Egypt.

The preliminary stages draw will be conducted at 1 pm CAT at the CAF Headquarters starting with the Confederation Cup and followed by Champions League.

The draws will be broadcast live on SuperSport TV and streamed on CAF official website CAFONLINE.COM and the official CAF YouTube Channel, CAF TV.

54 clubs from 42 Member Associations are engaged in this season’s CAF Champions League, while 52 clubs representing 41 Member Associations will compete in the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup.-Soccer24 News

Who Is At Risk Of Drowning?

Drowning has caused over 2.5 million deaths in the last decade. The overwhelming majority of these deaths (90%) happen in low- and middle-income countries. Globally, the highest drowning rates occur among children aged 1–4 years, followed by children aged 5–9 years.

The human, social and economic toll of these losses is intolerably high, and entirely preventable.

In 2023, the 76th World Health Assembly adopted its first ever resolution on drowning prevention. The resolution accepts the invitation of the United Nations General Assembly for WHO to coordinate actions within the UN system on drowning prevention and facilitate the observance of World Drowning Prevention Day on 25 July each year.

To mark this year’s World Drowning Prevention Day, WHO will continue to focus on raising awareness on drowning as a public health issue, reminding people that anyone can drown, but no one should.

We are also raising awareness on the six evidence-based, low-cost drowning prevention interventions that countries and organizations can use to drastically reduce the risk of drowning.

Union Showdown as ZCTU Suspends Leader Over Fiery Speeches

By A Correspondent| In a shocking twist of events, the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) has ignited a fierce internal battle by suspending their own leader, Obert Masaraure, over alleged misconduct.

The move has left the union in disarray, with one of its powerful affiliates, the Zimbabwe Banks and Allied Workers Union, publicly denouncing the suspension and accusing a cabal of individuals within ZCTU of conspiring against Masaraure.

The drama unfolded during a crucial meeting held at the prestigious Cresta Jameson Hotel on the ominous date of July 22, 2023.

Behind closed doors, the ZCTU general council, led by the enigmatic secretary-general Japhet Moyo, took the controversial decision to suspend Masaraure.

The allegations against him stem from his impassioned speeches during the Workers’ Day commemorations at Dzivarasekwa Stadium on May 1, 2023.

The suspension letter, dripping with tension, delivered a damning blow to Masaraure’s position in the union.

It read, “Cde Obert Masaraure has been suspended from the general council on allegations of misconduct, which arose from the incidents that transpired during the Workers’ Day event. A disciplinary process will be launched soon to investigate these grave accusations. Meanwhile, the pressure mounts as ARTUZ [Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe] is asked to designate a replacement for Masaraure in the general council.”

Masaraure, who seems unyielding in the face of adversity, vigorously protested his innocence in the wake of the suspension.

With fire in his eyes, he defiantly declared, “I have been unjustly suspended from the ZCTU general council for merely exercising my right to freedom of speech. All I did was call for a general strike to fight for fair wages in US dollars and demand the release of detained CCC Zengeza West MP, Job Sikhala, while condemning the rampant corruption plaguing our nation.”

The suspension, however, did not go unchallenged, as the Zimbabwe Banks and Allied Workers Union rose in furious opposition.

In a strongly worded statement, the affiliate union dismissed the suspension as a sham, casting doubt on the validity of the process.

They contended that the decision was made by a select few within ZCTU who flagrantly disregarded the organization’s constitution to achieve their ulterior motives.

Venting their indignation, the statement read, “We categorically reject the claim by ZCTU’s general council that they suspended Obert Masaraure, the revered president of ARTUZ. This suspension is nothing more than a glaring abuse of power by a faction within ZCTU, who aim to suppress the voice of a dedicated affiliate leader speaking out on pressing issues faced by the hardworking labor force. We firmly believe that Masaraure is a victim of reprisal for his fearless May Day speech, where he took on the role of Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition spokesperson despite ZCTU leaders’ attempts to silence him.”

The union showdown has sent shockwaves through Zimbabwe’s labor movement, with workers and activists taking sides in the bitter feud.

“Stop Subjecting Zimbabweans to Processes Where their Hopes Get Crushed”

By Wilbert Mukori- Zimbabwe’s 2008 elections were a watershed in that Zanu PF was forced to show the world the sicken depths of depravity the regime would go to hang on to power.

Before the 2008 elections, Zanu PF had been forced to implement some electoral reforms which, effectively meant the regime switching off its vote rigging juggernaut. The March 2008 plebiscite was the nearest Zimbabwe has ever come to holding free, fair and credible elections.

However when the party leaders heard that Zanu PF was losing the elections, Mnangagwa himself switched the vote rigging juggernaut back on and stopped ZEC announcing the results. What followed was six weeks of recounting 5 million votes with results being announced in dribs and drabs. The presidential results were announce at the end of the six weeks, Tsvangirai’s 73% vote count, by Mugabe’s Freudian slip, had been whittled down to 47%; enough to force the runoff.

During the runoff, Zanu PF unleashed the war veteran and it own youth militia backed by the Army, Police, CIO and Prison Service personal to punish the voters for having rejected the party and Mugabe in the March vote. The punishment was code named Operation Mavhotera Papi.

“What was accomplished by the bullet cannot be undone by the ballot!” thundered Robert Mugabe as the wanton violence spread to every corner of Zimbabwe.

Millions were internally displace and hundreds of thousands were beaten and/or raped. And over 500 were murdered in cold blood.

“Zanu PF has declared war on the people!” complained Tsvangirai as he announced his withdrawal form the runoff.

The cheating and the wanton violence were so blatant and in your face that not even SADC and AU, who had always turned a blind eye to Zanu PF rigged elections until then, could not endorse the 2008 elections as a free and credible process. Both SADC and AU refused to grant Zanu PF political legitimacy and it was this chastisement that forced Mugabe and his Zanu PF friends to agree to the need for Zimbabwe to implement democratic reforms designed to end the curse of rigged elections.

The primary task of the 2008 to 2013 GNU was to implement the democratic reforms.

Mugabe bribed Morgan Tsvangirai and his MDC friends, to whom the task of implementing reforms fell, with the trappings of high office the ministerial limos, the generous salaries and allowances, a US$4 million mansion for Tsvangirai, etc., etc. In return, the MDC leaders forgot all about the reforms.

Mugabe went one step further, he conned the MDC leaders into believing the opposition could win rigged elections, they were so popular. The MDC leaders had no problem sell this oxymoronic nonsense to their naive and gullible followers who have since taken to winning in rigged elections (WIRE) like a duck to water!

Of course, WIRE is just nonsense and two of the MDC leading intellectuals Tendai Biti and David Coltart have done their best to convince the herd of the folly of participating in these flawed elections without first implementing reforms.

“Look, you can’t keep on participating in flawed electoral processes that serve to give big benefits to dictators such as Robert Mugabe. Mugabe has perfected the art of winning elections. So it will be very foolish for the opposition to continue legitimising these sham elections which don’t deliver. This country will go through a serious economic crisis in 2020 caused by Zanu PF. And yet, this is the only country where a government doesn’t perform, it is encouraged by a super majority in parliament,” said Tendai Biti in a 2015 interview with Isaac Mugabi.

“So you can’t continue subjecting Zimbabweans to processes where their hopes just get crushed.”

David Coltart has shed the light on why when he and Biti has disregarded their own sound advice to stop participating.

“The (2013) electoral process was so flawed, so illegal, that the only logical step was to withdraw, which would compel SADC to hold Zanu PF to account. But such was the distrust between the MDC-T and MDC-N that neither could withdraw for fear that the other would remain in the elections, winning seats and giving the process credibility,” confessed David Coltart in his Book, The Struggle Continues 50 years of Tyranny in Zimbabwe.

The price Zimbabwe has paid and will continue to pay for Coltart and his opposition friends’ greed in participating in the flawed elections to give Zanu PF legitimacy and thus perpetuating the dictatorship is the deepening economic, social and political crisis. Zimbabwe is a failed state and the root cause of this the failure to hold free, fair and credible elections.

Zimbabwe has had many golden opportunity to implement the democratic reforms and ended the curse of rigged elections and thus end the failed state. Indeed, could be looking at marking the beginning of the end of the dictatorship with these 2023 elections. If only our opposition political leaders finally accepted these elections are “so flawed, so illegal, that the only logical step is to withdraw”, as Coltart aptly put it. Alas! Greed, not rational thinking, rules the roost.

Going forward Zimbabwe has three options:

1) continue the present status quo of Zanu PF rigging the elections, CCC and the rest of the opposition entourage participating for their a share of gravy train seats and the POLAD freebies and the herd bringing the rear in their desperate and insane hope for change even after 43 years of rigged election. Giving Zanu PF legitimacy will perpetuate the dictatorship and the the failed state. The country will continue to sink deeper and deeper into the abyss.

2) The people can refuse to participate in these flawed elections because they finally realise the sheer stupidity of participating and/or SADC is forced, for the second time, to deny Zanu PF political legitimacy and force the formation of a new GNU. This is a tall order given our people are not renowned for being rational (Zimbabwe would not be a failed state) and given ANC has vowed not to allow regime change in Zimbabwe for fear of South Africans too would want regime in next year’s elections.

3) by closing the door to peaceful democratic change we open the door to violent change. Change can be delayed but not unstoppable. There is  real danger violent street protest  violence and/or military coup. The 2017 military coup removed one dictator only to replace him with another.

The second option above is peaceful and offers the best hope of having the democratic reforms fully implemented.

The first and last options are not likely to produce a stable democracy because no meaningful reforms will be implemented by whatever government is in power. The temptation would be to abuse the present dictatorial tendencies to consolidate it’s own hold on power.

SHOCKING REVELATIONS: High Court Judge Accused of Corruption – Given House by State on Day of Crucial Election Hearing!

In a stunning twist, a High Court judge has been accused of receiving a lavish house from the state on the very same day he was scheduled to preside over a critical application that could impact the upcoming presidential elections. The explosive court filing, made by ex-minister Saviour Kasukuwere, alleges that Justice David Mangota was compromised and biased during the hearing, raising serious questions about the integrity of the judiciary in Zimbabwe.

Kasukuwere, who seeks to be a presidential candidate, had previously been barred from running due to claims of being out of the country for an extended period. Seeking justice, he now demands that Justice Mangota’s ruling be declared null and void, citing a shocking conflict of interest.

“The judge signed the contract for the state-funded house just before he entered the courtroom to hear the matter. It’s crystal clear that he was compromised by this transaction and rendered a wrongful and invalid judgment,” Kasukuwere asserts in a sworn affidavit.

In a move that has sparked outrage, Kasukuwere reveals that the judge’s ruling in favor of a Zanu PF activist’s plea to bar him from the election was nothing short of a “thank you” gesture to the state for the property he received. Kasukuwere alleges that this “thank you judgment” was a direct result of interference and excitement to acquire a luxurious house, an unprecedented move that has left the nation in shock.

Disturbingly, Kasukuwere claims to be aware of a plot to provide judges with houses, but Justice Mangota seems to be the sole beneficiary so far, leaving many questioning the fairness and transparency of the judicial system.

In a scathing indictment of the judiciary, Kasukuwere points out that judges of the Constitutional Court had their house contracts canceled due to a lack of funds, while Justice Mangota managed to secure his luxurious property. This glaring discrepancy raises alarming questions about favoritism and corruption within the legal framework.

Adding fuel to the fire, Kasukuwere exposes the judge’s previous role as permanent secretary in the justice ministry, serving directly under the command of Emmerson Mnangagwa, the current minister of justice and a presidential candidate. This close connection further casts doubt on the impartiality of Justice Mangota’s decision.

The nation is in an uproar, with many calling for a full-scale investigation into the alleged corruption and judicial capture in Zimbabwe. Lovedale Mangwana, the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission, the justice minister, and Justice Mangota himself are named as respondents in this explosive case that could have far-reaching implications for the upcoming elections.

As the matter remains pending, Zimbabweans anxiously await the truth to be unveiled and demand justice for any wrongdoing that may have occurred at the highest levels of the judicial system. The credibility of the judiciary is now on the line, and only time will tell if it can emerge from this scandal unscathed. Stay tuned for updates as this sensational saga unfolds!

D- Day For CCC Double Candidates

By A Correspondent- A High Court Judge Justice Neville Wamambo will on Thursday deliver a ruling on opposition Citizens Coalition for Change double candidates.

The alleged 17 CCC “bogus” candidates allegedly forged signatures of senior party leaders and they filed their nomination papers to represent the opposition party on the pretext that they had been given the green light to contest the forthcoming polls on August 23.

The CCC has however approached the courts for reprieve seeking the nullification of the nomination of the 17 candidates.

Reported a local publication:

CCC lawyer advocate Thabani Mpofu told the court that the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) registered the candidates under the party despite forging signatures of officials who were mandated to sign for candidates.

Mpofu also said their candidates had an original pre-prepared photo of the party’s logo while the bogus candidates had photocopies.

The lawyer submitted Fadzayi Mahere’s form and that of the “bogus” CCC candidate Freddy Masarirevhu as evidence and highlighted the discrepancies on the forged form.

“The first are the nomination forms for Fadzayi Mahere. The second is a document for Freddy Michael Masarirevhu. On our case Mahere is the legitimate candidate and Masarirevhu is the bogus candidate.

“The political party is required to place its symbol and place it before Zec. On the form for Mahere there is an original pre-prepared photo of the logo and on the one for Masarirevhu there is a photocopy.

“On page 5, there is the signature for Farirai Gobvu. On the Mahere documents, the signature is smooth and on the Masarirevhu paper is trembling.” Advocate Mpofu told the court.

“People who clearly do not have a logo are being declared the candidates for that party. You have a completely unnecessary man,” he said.

Mpofu said the nomination court officer was given documents in advance.

“The reason why we give specimen signatures is because the law requires that the nomination officer must conduct verification by his or her naked eye.

“The nomination officer must compare it with any nomination paper that has been filed. The law also says you may also entertain a doubt. The nomination officer has all the contact details. It is true that he cannot get involved in the internal squabbles of political parties,” Mpofu averred.

However, Zec lawyer Advocate Tawanda Kanengoni argued that prior to elections there was no letter that provides a specimen logo.

“The one that is described as bogus and the logo that is there, it satisfies that description. It is a white background, with Nelson Chamisa’s face and a black box written CCC.

“There was no reasonable suspicion that the nomination officer would suspect that this is not the CCC logo. The signatures, I don’t know what aspects of that signature the appellant has made.

“When you look at those signatures, there is no real basis where you can say they are different. They are substantially similar.

“Any nomination officer who looks at the specimens and the nomination papers would not say they look different. None of us are experts in that,” Kanengoni argued.

Zimbabwe’s Election on the Brink: Voters’ Roll Labeled a ‘Crime Scene’ by Outgoing MP

By A Correspondent| In a shocking revelation that has sent shockwaves through the nation, the outgoing Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) Member Of Parliament, Tendai Biti, has compared Zimbabwe’s current voters’ roll to a chilling “crime scene.” Demanding an urgent national audit, Biti accuses the electoral system of being tainted by irregularities that could compromise the integrity of the upcoming election.

The CCC has raised serious concerns about the voters’ roll, alleging that it contains mysterious anomalies rendering it unsearchable and unanalyzable. Moreover, they claim that the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) deliberately released the roll in an obscure PDF format with minuscule fonts, making it impossible to conduct a comprehensive search.

Startlingly, the ZEC has rejected the CCC’s accusations, asserting that the roll’s peculiar format was intended to safeguard it from any tampering or manipulation. But Biti remains unyielding, proclaiming that the current state of the voters’ roll makes it completely unsuitable for even the most mundane election, let alone the crucial upcoming one on 23 August.

In a fiery statement, Biti declared, “Zimbabwe cannot allow this electoral occultism to masquerade as a legitimate election. The 23rd of August must witness a true democratic process, free from any dark shadows or manipulation!”

Adding to the mounting tension, an electronic copy of the voters’ roll was shockingly released just a few weeks ago, triggering severe backlash from the opposition parties who claim that the delay offered an opening for data manipulation favoring the ruling Zanu-PF.

As the nation braces for what could be a pivotal moment in its democratic history, calls for an immediate and impartial national audit of the voters’ roll are resonating across party lines. The fate of Zimbabwe’s election now hangs in the balance, with citizens anxiously awaiting the outcome of this explosive controversy that could decide the nation’s future.

Mines Secretary Kunaka In Girlfriend Bashing Scandal

By A Correspondent| Permanent secretary in the Ministry of Mines and Mining Development, Pfungwa Kunaka has found himself at the centre of a scandal where he faces severe accusations of abusing his lover and stepdaughter within the premises of his government office.

Disturbing reports suggest that Kunaka has been involved in similar incidents in the past, managing to escape consequences due to his influential position as a senior official.

The victim, Rumbidzai Matinyenya, says she reported the physical abuse to the Harare Central Police Station on multiple occasions over the years but was eventually persuaded to drop the charges. However, she has refused to withdraw charges related to a recent assault that occurred on February 20 at the ministry’s headquarters in the financial district.

According to reports, Kunaka allegedly assaulted his 14-year-old stepdaughter while security guards looked on helplessly. The matter was officially reported at the Harare Central Police Station, resulting in the opening of a docket under CR 951/02/23 for the case involving his mistress and CR950/2/23 for the stepdaughter’s case.

This is not the first time Kunaka’s violent behavior has come to light. On Christmas Day, he allegedly attacked Matinyenya and her friend at a house in Harare’s Greendale suburb, leading to the incident being reported under case number RRB5377773 at the Rhodesville Police Station. In July of the previous year, a separate assault complaint was filed at the Harare Central Police Station with reference number IR071059. Matinyenya acknowledged these instances but claimed she had withdrawn charges in all previous cases except for the February assault, where her daughter was also attacked.

Efforts to reach Kunaka for comment have been unsuccessful, with unanswered WhatsApp messages indicating that he has read them, and phone calls going unanswered.

Matinyenya has revealed that she has been subjected to abuse since 2015, when she gave birth to Kunaka’s child. She has identified various locations where the assaults took place, including the Ministry of Finance buildings, where Kunaka worked as a senior official before his promotion to Mines permanent secretary last year.

The relationship between Matinyenya and Kunaka began in 2008 when she was only 17 years old. Despite being married at the time, Matinyenya engaged in an affair with Kunaka, who showered her with money and gifts. Kunaka himself is married.

Matinyenya explained, “I was young, vulnerable, and impressionable. I guess I lost my bearings because of the gifts and the promise to marry me. I was pregnant at the time we were dating, but my husband found out about our affair in 2009, when my child was small, resulting in us separating.”

She continued, “Kunaka then rented a house for me. Things were okay between us until 2015 when I gave birth to his child. He suddenly stopped sending my first child to school and stopped paying rent. My child had to drop from a private school and enroll at a government school as a result. He also started physically abusing me; the first time being in March 2016 when he hit me with a whip in the Ministry of Finance offices. I almost fell through the window on the 6th floor as he was assaulting me.”

Matinyenya initially reported the assault at the Harare Central Police Station but withdrew the charges after Kunaka convinced her to do so. She has since claimed that she has not known peace since that day.

One of the most brutal attacks occurred last Christmas when Matinyenya went to Kunaka’s house to ask for money to treat their child, who has a heart ailment. Despite the child’s condition, Kunaka has allegedly refused to provide medical aid.

Matinyenya recounted the incident, saying, “Our child fell ill. I called him for help because the child was not on medical aid, but he was not answering. I then went to his house. I was answered by his son who was very courteous. He asked me to come inside, but I said I just wanted to see Kunaka and asked him to call him for me. While I was parked at the gate, someone drove out and asked why I was blocking the gate before hurling insults at me.”

She continued, “There were many people at the house, and I saw a group of people advancing towards me, among them his daughter. I tried to reverse the car, but his daughter hit me with a bottle after I crashed the car into a pillar. Kunaka came and took the keys away and ordered people to beat me. I was accompanied by a friend, and we were both beaten. I was beaten until I soiled myself. They beat me from around 1830hrs to 2000hrs, and I passed out. My sick daughter witnessed the attack and was crying throughout while holding onto her father. When I was released from his home, I met a guy who offered me his shirt. He phoned a taxi which took me to Rhodesville Police Station.”

Matinyenya claims that Kunaka often bribes police officers after assaulting her, and she believes he did the same in Rhodesville. Despite spending considerable time with Kunaka and even taking him to court while the magistrates’ court was on a break, Matinyenya noticed a change in police officers’ attitudes towards her case.

According to Matinyenya, she was interviewed on March 13th, and Kunaka was subsequently contacted to provide his explanation. However, the case has not yet been heard in court, and Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyati, the police spokesperson, has not responded to inquiries despite previously stating that he would personally look into the matter.

These revelations concerning Kunaka come at a time when the Supreme Court has mandated President Emmerson Mnangagwa to establish a code of conduct for vice presidents, ministers, and their deputies. The court heard Justice Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi’s appeal against a 2022 High Court decision that granted him 45 days to draft the code of conduct. The appeal was lodged by Nyasha Chiramba, a law student at Zimbabwe’s Ezekiel Guti University, who argued that the officials had been complicit in grave instances of misconduct, including sexual harassment and misuse of public funds.

“Jah Prayzah Serving Zanu PF Interests”

Music super star Jah Prayzah is a brilliant and talented musician whose music  seem to be too political  and serving the interests of Zanu pf which is credited with the economic political decay during its reign.

His songs Kutonga kwaro,Masoja and Chiremerera are part of the package that confirms his allegiance to the Zanu pf regime. In my view Mudhara achauya is a pro Mnangagwa song contrary to the belief that it is a love song.

I now agree with those that have raised red flags over the attitudes and behaviors of some high rated artists who have allowed themselves to be used by political institutions for political mileage.

Musicians like Jah Prayzah and Dhuterere seem to be openly over licking Zanu pf for their personal reasons.

Kutonga kwaro song was widely used by Zanu pf just after the 2017 overthrow of the G40 dominated government of the late ruler Robert Mugabe by the military dominated Lacoste faction.

Mudhara achauya came at the height of high internal tensions within Zanu pf that led to a messy fallout in November 2017

We dont dispute the fact that musicians have rights too and the fact that their political choices should be respected but they must come clear on their Zanu pf links.

In my view Chiremerera is a Zanu pf 2023 Zanu pf campaign song as was  Kutonga kwaro during the build up to the 2018 elections

I am entitled to my opinion in as much as pro Zanu pf musicians are entitled to their association with Zanu pf

.In Chiremerera Jah Prayzah cleared ED of any wrong doing in 2017 and justified his ascendancy to the highest office on the land by saying “Handina kubvuta ndakasarudzwa, ndakagara pandakagadzikwa”.

Jah Prayzah must come clean and explain his association with the Emmerson Mnangagwa led government instead of pretending to be prophetic when he actaully sings to drum up support for Zanu pf.

He is a talented  and highly rated artist who must not be used by sharks and political vultures for their selfish interests.

They must take a leaf from Winky D who was criticised by Zanu pf for singing about poverty and corruption and ‘the guilty’ were shaken and rushed to ban his music on all state controlled radio stations.

Musicians should serve the interests of the people not to lick politicians.

ZANU PF Man Caught Defacing CCC Posters

Thomas Chidzomba’s Desperation Evident as Election Loss Looms.

    Dear Editor

Chinhoyi, Zimbabwe – With the parliamentary election scheduled for August 2023 quickly approaching, tensions are rising in Chinhoyi Constituency as Thomas Chidzomba, the Zanu PF’s Parliamentary candidate, resorts to alarming tactics of violence and intimidation. Chinhoyi Constituency has long been considered a stronghold for the Citizen Coalition for Change, and the growing popularity of front runner Eng Leslie Mhangwa has seemingly made Chidzomba aware of his imminent defeat.

The latest incident occurred earlier today at Pfungwadzakanaka Shopping center, where Chidzomba’s aides and his proxies Admire Ndlovu, also known as “Bicep Admire” of the notorious “Top Six” gang, and Zanu PF ward six Aspiring council candidate Brighton Chinotunha, forcefully confiscated and subsequently burned 300 campaign posters belonging to Eng Mhangwa from Citizen Coalition for Change volunteers. Simultaneously, Chinotunha was caught defacing campaign posters of Chinhoyi Mayor and incumbent ward 5 councillor Garikai Dendera. The incident has been reported to the police under RRB5586631 at Chemagamba police station.

    CCC posters stripped down

This unfortunate turn of events has rekindled gruesome memories of the infamous “Top Six” gang, known for terrorizing Chinhoyi residents during the turn of the millennium. Bicep Admire is believed to be one of the few remaining members of the gang, which was formed by flamboyant businessman and perennial political loser Phillip Chiyangwa during the 2000 presidential campaign. It is important to note that the election at that time was marred by controversy, with widespread condemnation from the international community due to allegations of electoral malpractice.

It is evident that Chidzomba, sensing his potential defeat, has chosen to embrace the dark underbelly of politics by resorting to violence. Such actions not only tarnish the reputation of the Zanu PF party but also undermine the democratic principles upon which elections are founded. The incident serves as a stark reminder that the use of intimidation and violence only serves to erode trust in the electoral process and communicates a lack of confidence in one’s own policies and abilities.

It is crucial that the proper authorities thoroughly investigate and address this incident, ensuring that those responsible are held accountable for their actions. Additionally, it is essential for citizens to remain vigilant and reject any attempts to manipulate or undermine the democratic process.

As the election draws nearer, it is our hope that all candidates prioritize peaceful and respectful engagement with voters, focusing on the issues that truly matter to the Chinhoyi community. Democracy flourishes when individuals have the opportunity to engage in open and honest dialogue, enabling the electorate to make well-informed decisions.

Mat South Records 1700 Teenage Pregnancies

By- The government has announced that 1 753 pupils from Matabeleland South dropped out of secondary school during the second quarter of the year for several reasons, including teenage pregnancies.

Presenting a health and social services sub-committee second quarter report during the Matabeleland South Provincial Development Committee meeting yesterday, provincial social welfare officer, Mr Criswell Nyakudya said this figure is worrying given that the country is working towards achieving quality, equitable and inclusive education at all levels.
The drop-outs were also attributed to teenage pregnancies and lack of interest in school among others.
Mr Nyakudya said the province has made significant progress in ensuring access to universal primary education. “The province has made significant strides in achieving universal primary education, a key challenge remains in the access to quality, equitable and inclusive education across education levels.
“During the second quarter of the year, there has been an increase in access to education at the primary level due to the contribution of private players especially at the ECD level,” he said.
“A gap still remains at the secondary level. The provincial enrolment during the second quarter went down by 3,1 percent.
This means that 1 753 pupils dropped out of secondary school during the period under review.”
Mr Nyakudya said the province recorded an improvement in non-formal education as 5 369 pupils enrolled surpassing the set target of 4 800. He said 3 577 pupils were enrolled in vocational training centres in the province.
Mr Nyakudya said a number of schools in the province are running viable commercial ventures such as goat-rearing, poultry, piggery, cattle ranching, horticulture and fishery.
He said the issue of child protection remains a major concern in the province with a number of children being abused within their home set up.
“A total of 136 children were placed under residential care during the second quarter. This means that these children were removed from the communities where they were staying because they were not being properly taken care of, some were being ill-treated, abandoned or their guardians were no longer in a position to look after them,” said Mr Nyakudya.
“These children were then removed from society and placed in institutions. Effective social protection and safety nets, policies, systems, and programmes play a major role in reducing poverty and vulnerability, redressing inequality, and promoting inclusive growth and development of human capital.”
Mr Nyakudya said it is important for all members of the community to take child protection issues seriously. He said 30 children were placed under foster care during the same period. “Guardians in the province were now forthcoming to foster children. A total of 39 children with disabilities were assisted with rights-based services while 317 children were assisted on drug and substance abuse-related services,” said Mr Nyakudya. Chronicle

    Soldiers Distribute Zanu PF Regalia

By- Zanu PF is using members of the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) to distribute its campaign regalia at rallies.

According to The Standard, soldiers last week dished out President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s campaign rally in Centenary, Mashonaland Central, on Saturday.
Soldiers in uniform were seen distributing ZANU PF caps and t-shirts some 2km away from the rally venue.

In his address at the rally, Mnangagwa said no party could remove ZANU PF from power. He said:

We are aware of other political parties here in Zimbabwe. They are allowed to realise their desires to rule this country, but I can tell you that it is not easy when ZANU PF is in power.

You are children of freedom fighters, who suffered during the liberation war and we know when we come here you will defend the country’s heritage and retain ZANU PF when we go to the elections on August 23.

If you are paid to cause violence just spend the money quietly because if we know about it, we will deal with you.

ZANU PF reportedly bussed thousands of supporters to the venue, as has been its custom during previous rallies.

Some of the villagers, who failed to get the free fried chicken and chips, hampers, party regalia and other goodies promised by ZANU PF, were left disgruntled.

At the rally, Mnangagwa received former MDC-T spokesperson, Witness Dube and other MPs who left MDC-T to join ZANU PF.

Police Say We’re Favouring Chamisa Ahead Of ZANU PF

Exposing Police Falsehoods: Unveiling the Truth Behind Alleged Biased Treatment of Political Gatherings

By Farai D Hove | In a recent report by the state media, it was claimed that the police had banned more gatherings of the ruling ZANU PF party than those of its main rival, the Citizens Coalition For Change (CCC) party. These allegations were backed by statistics provided by Dr. Gerald Gwinji, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage. However, a closer examination of the situation reveals some serious inconsistencies and raises doubts about the accuracy of the claims.

According to Dr. Gwinji, political gatherings in the country are governed by the Constitution and the Maintenance of Peace and Security Act. All political players are required to comply with these provisions and notify the police of their public meetings to avoid clashes and public disorders.

The alleged statistics provided by Dr. Gwinji state that since January 2023, the police received 1,437 notifications from ZANU PF to hold public gatherings. Out of these, 1,351 were compliant with legal requirements, while 86 were not approved. On the other hand, the CCC made 410 applications, with 345 of them being compliant and 65 being declined.

At first glance, these figures might seem convincing, but upon further examination, some key issues arise:

    1. Lack of Verified Evidence: The state media report claims that the statistics were provided by Dr. Gwinji during a briefing of observers and diplomatic missions on the Government’s state of preparedness ahead of the harmonized elections. However, there is no mention of any independent verification of these numbers. The absence of verified evidence casts doubt on the accuracy and reliability of the claims made.

    2. Biased Approval Process: While the statistics indicate that ZANU PF had more gatherings approved than CCC, it does not shed light on the reasons behind the denials. There might be legitimate concerns regarding the police’s approval process, as the CCC has claimed bias against them. Without transparent and impartial review mechanisms, these numbers can be misleading and indicative of potential bias.

    3. Incomplete Picture: The report fails to provide a comprehensive analysis of other political parties’ gatherings. It merely mentions the numbers for the CCC and ZANU PF, leaving out crucial data for comparison. This incomplete picture prevents a fair assessment of the situation and raises suspicions about cherry-picking data to support a particular narrative.

    4. No Contextual Information: The report lacks context and explanations for the disparities in approvals and denials. There could be valid reasons for certain gatherings being denied, such as failure to meet legal requirements or potential security risks. Without this information, it is challenging to draw conclusive judgments.

In light of these inconsistencies and shortcomings in the state media report, it becomes evident that the claimed bias against the CCC cannot be adequately substantiated. The lack of verified evidence, biased approval process, incomplete data, and absence of contextual information undermine the credibility of the statistics presented by Dr. Gwinji.

In a democracy, it is essential to ensure a level playing field for all political parties, and this includes fair treatment of their public gatherings. To foster public trust in the electoral process, it is crucial for the police and government institutions to be transparent, accountable, and unbiased in their decisions.

Moving forward, it is imperative for the relevant authorities to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into these allegations. An independent body or impartial observers should be involved in assessing the police’s handling of public gatherings to ensure fairness and adherence to the rule of law.

In conclusion, the state media report’s claims of biased treatment by the police towards the CCC compared to ZANU PF raise legitimate concerns about the transparency and fairness of the approval process. Until concrete evidence is provided, it is premature to draw definitive conclusions. However, it is evident that there is a need for more scrutiny and oversight to ensure equal treatment of all political parties and foster a democratic environment in the country.

Zimbabwe Takes Action On Illegal Lotteries and Gaming

In a significant move to combat illegal lotteries and gaming activities in Zimbabwe, the Lotteries and Gaming Board, along with other relevant agencies, has intensified its efforts to apprehend organizers involved in such illicit operations. Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Minister, Kazembe Kazembe, made this announcement during his visit to the Lotteries and Gaming Board offices in Harare.

Minister Kazembe’s commitment to eradicating illegal gaming was exemplified by the commissioning of three Toyota GD6 vehicles, dedicated to improving the operational efficiency of the board. With these reliable vehicles at their disposal, the Lotteries and Gaming Board can now respond more swiftly to reported cases of illegal operators, thereby enhancing their supervision efforts.

During his address, Minister Kazembe issued a stern warning to illegal operators, stating that there are no sacred cows within the gaming industry. The minister emphasized that all perpetrators of crime would face the full force of the law, and the board would spare no effort in bringing them to justice.

The allocation of $120 million to eight organizations, as well as $3,000 to the Sports and Recreation Commission, is part of the government’s strategy to generate income that supports social welfare organizations, sports, and arts bodies, as mandated by law.

Minister Kazembe lauded the Lotteries and Gaming Board for its commitment to enhancing service delivery and striving towards achieving a prosperous and empowered society by 2030, in line with the National Development Strategy (NDS)1. He highlighted that the board’s efforts were in sync with the Second Republic’s vision of leaving no one and no place behind.

The disbursement of funds to the specified recipients under the Lotteries and Gaming Act was seen as a positive step in uplifting various sectors of the country. While acknowledging that the allocation might not fully address all the challenges faced by beneficiaries, Minister Kazembe emphasized the importance of being each other’s keeper, especially in a climate affected by sanctions from external detractors.

As a symbol of support for Zimbabwe’s national teams that have qualified for the World Cup, the Sports and Recreation Commission was granted $3,000. This gesture aimed to acknowledge and boost the morale of the Gems (netball team), Rugby under 20, and Hockey under 21 teams as they represented the nation in international competitions.

The event witnessed the presence of key officials, including Lotteries and Gaming Board Chairperson, Dr. Euginia Chidhakwa, Registrar-General in the Civil Registry Department, Mr. Henry Machiri, Police Deputy Commissioner-General (administration) Stephen Mutamba, and Deputy Director Administration in the Immigration Department, Mr. Givemore Charamba.

Overall, the recent actions taken by the Lotteries and Gaming Board, in collaboration with Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Minister Kazembe Kazembe, demonstrate the government’s strong resolve to combat illegal gaming activities. The deployment of resources, including the commissioning of new vehicles and financial support for various sectors, showcases Zimbabwe’s commitment to creating a regulated and fair gaming environment. With these intensified efforts and continued vigilance, the nation moves towards achieving its vision of a prosperous and empowered upper middle-income society by 2030.

Raymond Makunde Attacks More Victims Despite Previous Investigations

By Investigative Correspondent | Dubious businessman Raymond Makunde, a notorious scammer and deceptive businessman, has been found to have operated in the UK for over three years, despite being known to the banking systems for his fraudulent activities. Makunde, who promises non-existent products and services, has been using multiple identities to deceive unsuspecting victims and execute his scams successfully.

The investigation into Makunde’s deceptive operations has been extensively covered in the news, highlighting the suspicious nature of his transactions and the ease with which he has managed to obtain incoming payments for non-existent goods. The question of how the banks allowed him to run accounts for such shady and opaque trades remains a mystery.

Callers on a live program on 2 July 2023 offloaded their complaints (see live video at 43:50 https://fb.watch/mbDfjB_q0P/ )

Back in 2020, Makunde’s dual identities were exposed during investigations in both the UK and South Africa, leading to the opening of several police cases. In South Africa, he was known as Raymond Makunae, while in the UK, he masqueraded as Raymond Makunde. The revelation of his multiple identities raised alarm bells about the extent of his fraudulent activities.

    Raymond Makunde’s other identity document

ZimEye published details of Makunde’s bank statements for his business, Bishop Logistics, which clearly indicated fraudulent transactions. In one instance, he received a credit of R104,000, and within days the entire account was emptied, raising suspicions of his involvement in illicit activities.

In early 2020, a police case was opened in South Africa by Mr. JJ Singh, a member of the C2C network group, accusing Makunde of theft under false pretenses and fraud. This case was related to a payment of R104,000 made to his company, Bishops Logistics Pty Limited (Bishops), with the promise of an equivalent payment to a UK-based supplier. However, the promised payment never materialized, leading to suspicions of Makunde’s involvement in the scam.

The bank statements from Bishops confirmed the receipt of the funds, and Makunde was involved in orchestrating the transaction, claiming it was intended to build a global community based on trust and integrity. However, it turned out to be another one of his elaborate scams.

It was not clear at the time of writing how British banks or at least their insurance companies have allowed Makunde to operate accounts and receive large unexplained un-invoiced lumpsums into his accounts. It was neither clear why the institutions were failing at the task of simply contacting journalists where they are not clear on this well known scammer of several years, and a comment was awaited at the time of writing.

Other bank accounts he uses are as follows:

    Another Raymond Makunde bank account

The public is urged to remain vigilant and cautious while conducting transactions to avoid falling victim to similar scams.

Another Raymond Makunde bank account As the investigation unfolds, more details are expected to surface about Makunde’s vast network of deception, the number of victims he has defrauded, and the full extent of his criminal activities. Authorities are advising anyone who suspects they may have been victimized by Makunde to come forward and report their experiences to the relevant authorities.

Various efforts to get a comment from Makunde were fruitless as he did not pick up phone or reply messages.

The case of Raymond Makunde serves as a stark reminder of the importance of exercising caution and due diligence while conducting financial transactions, especially with individuals or entities who seem suspicious or too good to be true. – ARE YOU ALSO A VICTIM? CONTACT ZIMEYE NOW

Chamisa Exposes Mnangagwa Election Rigging Plans

By-The leader of the opposition CCC Nelson Chamisa said his party had covered all loopholes used by Zanu PF to rig elections in the past.

Addressing thousands of CCC supporters at a campaign rally at Dulibadzimu Stadium in Beitbridge on Sunday, Chamisa said the opposition party should win the 23 August 2023 elections by a huge margin. He said:
When ED grabbed power from Mugabe, he was given two years to finish Mugabe’s term but nothing worked. I warned my brother (Mnangagwa) about the repercussions of grabbing power.
I told him what you have done, you have committed a crime in heaven and on earth. He grabbed another five years from me in 2018.
This time we know he is thinking of employing dirty tactics but all corners are covered because we know what he uses to steal elections.
We want to see when election results are being announced, the gap must be huge.
Chamisa castigated the ZANU PF-led government for bragging about implementing development projects that are not benefiting people. He said:
If they build a road, they come back to you and boast, yet it’s their duty. They even inflate the (cost). Look at Zimborders which has plunged people into suffering.
People living in Beitbridge depend on cross-border trade but they have been impoverished by high charges when using the upgraded border so who does it help?
So what development is that? My government will exempt locals or seek reversal of the deals which make people suffer.
The upgrading of the Beitbridge border cost a staggering US$300 million and the company that manages the facility levies charges of US$27, US$80 and US$200 for private cars, buses and heavy trucks, respectively.
This has resulted in regional travellers shunning Beitbridge for other routes while locals no longer drive to South Africa.
Chamisa also said most people in the country including civil servants, and the security sector want a new government.

Chamisa MP Fund-raises For The Party

By- The opposition CCC party’s candidate for the Lobengula-Magwegwe National Assembly constituency in the upcoming general elections, Ereck Gono, is asking for funds from the party’s supporters for his campaign.

Gono has set up an online campaign https://ko-fi.com/lobengulamagwegwempto solicit funds from well-wishers to purchase campaign material.

    In an interview with an online portal, Gono said candidates have been raising their own funds due to financial challenges in the party. He said;

Because of financial challenges caused by the failed regime, we must self-fund the campaign for change.

Whilst we have a few resources that we set aside all along, it’s not enough to sustain the whole campaign.

We need money for t-shirts, flyers, banners, and to sustain our campaign teams and also get polling agents at stations.

Our friends and relatives in the diaspora who want to donate can do so. It accommodates even those who might want to help our campaign but don’t have a lot of money.

Gono said people can donate as little as US$5. He said he has so far raised US$250 for his campaign.

Mnangagwa Bribes Judge To Block Kasukuwere

By- The Zanu PF government rewarded a High Court judge David Mangota with a house on the same day he was due to hear an application against independent candidate Saviour Kasukuwere’s nomination to run for the presidency.

In a High Court application filed on Friday last week, Kasukuwere said he wants Justice David Mangota’s ruling barring him from the election declared a nullity.

In his affidavit, KKasukuwere argued that the ruling was made by “a compromised judicial officer who had received a house from the state three working days before rendering his judgement.” He said:

I am advised that at law, a judgement given by a biased judicial officer must be treated as pro non scripto (as not written) and the same cannot be appealed against but rescinded at law as the same does not appear in the record.

Justice Mangota granted an order sought by Lovedale Mangwana who argued that Kasukuwere was legally ineligible to vote and run for public office as he had been out of the country for 12 months when he filed his nomination papers on 21 June 2023.

Kasukuwere has appealed the judgement at the Supreme Court and the matter is set to be heard on 27 July.

The former cabinet minister has filed the new High Court application in which he wants the court to rescind Justice Mangota’s judgement. He argued:

I was shocked to learn that Justice Mangota was given an immovable property by the state on July 7, 2023, the date upon which he heard the matter and reserved his judgement.

The judge signed the contract of sale for the house funded by the state just before he got into court to hear the matter.

I dare him to oppose this allegation and I will provide the answering affidavit with such agreement.

On the same day, the payment was done to the seller of the property by the national treasury.

Kasukuwere said he was aware of a scheme to give judges houses, but only Justice Mangota had received one so far.

He also said Justice Mangota was the permanent secretary in the justice ministry between 2002 and 2013 and was serving “directly under the command and instructions of Emmerson Mnangagwa who, at the time, was the minister of justice serving from 2000 to 2005.” Added Kasukuwere:

He thus could not competently deliver a judgement against his former boss who is on the list of presidential candidates.

Lovedale Mangwana, the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission, the justice minister and Justice Mangota are cited as respondents.

Croco Motors Accused Of Falsifying Evidence

By Court Reporter| The vehicle service giant, Croco Motors, has been accused of presenting wrongful information before the courts in a case involving a motorist who had her car wrongfully fueled with diesel, causing severe damage to the vehicle.

After the fuel mishap, Croco Motors provided a courtesy vehicle for the lady Kudzayi Mundangepfupfu while they tried to sort out the affected vehicle. The understanding was that she would return the courtesy vehicle once her own car was in its original state.

However, Croco Motors reported Mundangepfupfu and caused her arrest.

Croco Motors wrongfully alleges that the incident happened in May while the incident occurred on April 25.

“Our client advised us that on April 25, a fuel attendant at Croco Puma Bond Service stand erroneously fueled her vehicle…with diesel instead of petrol. Having realized the error, Croco Motors then engaged their resident mechanics to attend to the car,” wrote Mundangepfupfu’s lawyers on May 9, in a letter addressed to Croco’s legal representatives.

They alleged that Mundangepfupfu wanted the car for a school run but facts on the ground show that pupils were on holiday.

The state also alleges that the agreement was that Mundangepfupfu was supposed to return the car on demand.

However, during cross-examination Mundangepfupfu told the courts that the agreement was that she would only return the car once the car was fixed.

She also said she is the one who voluntarily gave the car to the Marlbrough Police who have arrested her.

Croco Motors claimed that the car was fixed and gave it to Mundangepfupfu. However, a letter from Zimoco showed that the company dumped the car at their premises without it being fixed.

Croco Motors allegedly falsified the report from Zimoco so that Mundangepfupfu be arrested at Marlbrough Police Station.

State prosecutor Heather Muokoto was allegedly informed that the vehicle was still with Zimoco but she nonetheless put it on the charge sheet.

On July 17th, Muokoto abandoned trial mid-way when she was supposed to do cross examination forcing the magistrate to stop proceedings. She alleged came the next day with a set of questions which were purportedly written for her by her superior Reza.

There is suspicion that she got a bribe to pin Mundangepfupfu.

The State sought to highlight that the car had faults prior to its coming for refueling.

However, a technical report from Mercedes Benz dated July 7, 2022, showed that the vehicle was damaged while they were trying to drain the fuel.

The evidence also established that Croco Motors did not drain the fuel properly, which caused damage to the vehicle.

“The fuel tank had been drained by cranking the vehicle for a long time and draining through the fuel supply pipe,” findings from Mercedes Benz specialist ZIMOCO read. “The vehicle was now showing a number of faults on the instrument cluster.”

The state sought to put the blame on Mundangepfupfu that she mistakenly joined the diesel queue instead of the petrol queue, despite being asked by the fuel attendants about the fuel type multiple times, to which she consented.

The state alleges that realizing her mistake after the diesel had been pumped into her car, Mundangepfupfu immediately informed the station manager about the mishap.

However, Croco Motors was exposed as lying because on the day of the refueling incident, Mundangepfupfu was not there.

During cross-examination, Mundangepfupfu said the car was being driven by her brother Munyaradzi.

“I was not the one who was driving the vehicle when the incident happened,” Mundangepfupfu told the court.

Her brother Munyaradzi gave a detailed account of what transpired on the day, calling his sister who was not in the vicinity telling her what was transpired.

Meanwhile, Mundangepfupfu has filed a complaint with the Judicial Services Commission against Presiding Magistrate Yeukai Nzuda, alleging bias, prejudice, and a violation of her constitutional rights in the handling of her criminal case.

In a letter addressed to the commission, Mundangepfupfu outlined several instances that she believes demonstrate the lack of impartiality on the part of Magistrate Nzuda.

She claims that the court showed favoritism towards Croco Motors, granting them a month-long postponement to find a witness while denying a postponement to her heavily pregnant legal counsel due to a maternity medical emergency.

“Early this year Croco motors requested a postponement for a month to look for a witness they wanted to introduce after trial had commenced yet they knew 6 months prior that they would need that Witness and were granted this postponement. “The Magistrate herself from the beginning of my case would postpone dates because of leave or holidays she was taking for 3 weeks to a month at a time. However, my legal counsel who was heavily pregnant requested a postponement due to a pregnancy medical emergency on the 26’h of April 2023 through a junior counsel as she was unwell to attend a court sitting. Not only was it declined even though maternity leave is her right but the Magistrate went on to caution me that my trial would continue in the next 3 working days with or without legal counsel, which was a violation of my constitutional right,” said Mundangepfupfu.

Murewa Headman Casts Doubt on Signature in Court During Former Tsvangirai Advisor’s Trial

Murewa Magistrate Court was the stage for a dramatic turn of events during the trial of Pastor Lawrence Berejena, the former spiritual advisor to Morgan Tsvangirai, the late president of the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC).

The proceedings took a surprising twist when the controversial headman, Edmore Mungoni, doubted his own signature on a statement presented as evidence during cross-examination.

The trial revolves around allegations made by Headman Mungoni, who claims that Pastor Berejena showed contemptuous behavior during a local court session where he presided over a case involving the pastor’s elderly mother, who is 82 years old.

According to Mungoni, during the court session, the former Tsvangirai aide clicked his tongue and brazenly ordered his mother to leave the proceedings.
During the cross-examination, defense counsel Jacob Tuso confronted Mungoni with the statement he had previously given to the police.

When asked if the statement was indeed his, Mungoni surprisingly admitted it was his own. However, he then astonishingly cast doubt on the authenticity of the signature on the statement when questioned about it by the defense lawyer.

The courtroom was further captivated when Mungoni alleged that after Pastor Berejena clicked his tongue, villagers who were present burst into laughter.

This assertion contradicted the testimony of a second witness, Chamunorwa Mavhunga a clerk in Mungoni’s court, who stated that people merely exclaimed in disbelief at the pastor’s actions.

Such inconsistencies between the witnesses’ accounts and their initial statements provided to the police added another layer of complexity to the trial.

Tuso, sensing an opportunity to capitalize on these discrepancies, swiftly applied for a discharge on behalf of Pastor Berejena.

The court is set to determine the outcome of this application in the first week of August, pending the State’s response to the arguments put forth by the defense.

Presiding over the case was Murehwa Magistrate Terrence Mashaire.

Jah Prayzah Singing For His Zanu-pper

Jah Prayzah: A Talented Musician Used as a Political Tool

By Kurauone Chihwayi | In the vibrant and diverse world of music, artists have always held the power to inspire, unite, and bring change to society. One such artist who has emerged as a music superstar is Jah Prayzah. There’s no denying that he is an exceptionally talented musician with an immense fan following both in Zimbabwe and beyond. However, as a keen observer of his music, it becomes evident that Jah Prayzah’s work seems to be entangled with the political landscape of Zimbabwe, specifically with the ruling party, Zanu PF.

Songs like “Kutonga kwaro,” “Masoja,” and “Chiremerera” have raised eyebrows due to their apparent alignment with Zanu PF’s interests. While artists have the right to express their political beliefs, it is crucial to question the extent to which these affiliations impact their artistic integrity and the messages they convey.

“Kutonga kwaro” found widespread usage by Zanu PF following the overthrow of the G40-dominated government of Robert Mugabe in 2017. This connection raised suspicions about Jah Prayzah’s stance and whether he was willingly or unwillingly being used as a tool for political gain.

“Mudhara achauya,” often interpreted as a love song, has been argued by some to be a pro-Mnangagwa song, signifying a bias towards the current leader of Zimbabwe. Such interpretations might raise concerns about whether the artist is presenting his music as a form of propaganda or genuinely expressing his sentiments.

“Chiremerera,” a song that seemingly exonerates President Mnangagwa of any wrongdoings during the turbulent events of 2017, further strengthens the belief that Jah Prayzah’s music serves as a platform for promoting the ruling party’s agenda. This type of association has led to questions regarding the artist’s commitment to using his talent for the betterment of society rather than becoming a mouthpiece for political interests.

As citizens, we recognize that artists, like everyone else, have the right to hold their political beliefs. However, when musicians like Jah Prayzah appear to openly embrace a political party, it can create a sense of discomfort among the audience. We are not suggesting that artists should refrain from expressing their affiliations, but rather, they should be transparent about their connections with political institutions and make it clear that their music is not meant to serve as political propaganda.

Transparency is essential in preserving the trust between musicians and their audiences. If Jah Prayzah has genuine reasons for aligning himself with Zanu PF, he should not shy away from explaining his association. The fans have a right to know whether his lyrics are a reflection of his true beliefs or if they are tailored to drum up support for the ruling party.

In contrast, there are artists like Winky D, who have taken a stand against corruption and poverty, even facing criticism and censorship from the ruling party as a consequence. Such artists serve as a beacon of hope for those who believe that musicians should prioritize the interests of the people over pleasing politicians.

In conclusion, Jah Prayzah is undoubtedly a brilliant and talented musician who has captured the hearts of many with his music. However, his apparent political affiliations have raised concerns about the integrity of his work. As fans and supporters of music, we encourage artists to be transparent about their beliefs and affiliations. Music should be a force that unites and inspires people, not a tool for serving political interests. The audience deserves honesty and sincerity from their favorite artists, as only then can the power of music be truly transformative for society.

Police Has Already Tainted The 2023 Polls

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) might have done well by symbolically moving to halt the arbitrary banning of opposition campaign rallies by a partisan police service, but actual progress will be judged by practical realities on the ground as the country heads for the polls.

Last week, the ZRP confirmed a leaked memorandum which ordered its provincial and district commanders to stop the random ban on opposition campaign rallies, amid indications of a hostile political and security environment ahead of crucial elections.

The memo, written on 8 July by police commander of the 2023 general elections, Commissioner Ndofandaedza Jaboon, said that rallies must not be banned out of partisan whim.

Jaboon said rallies can only be banned when there are compelling reasons in terms of the law as that triggers political tensions and discredits the electoral process and elections.

“Commanders should note that for elections to be deemed free, fair and peaceful and credible, the playing field should be reckoned as level, hence the police actions should not discredit the electoral processes,” read the letter directed to officer commanding police provinces, officer commanding Support Unit, director of the Criminal Investigation Department and the director of police intelligence.

Matanga Hauled To Court Over Unlawful Arrest

By A Correspondent- A Harare man is suing Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Commissioner-General Godwin Matanga over unlawful arrest after he was detained for two nights for buying whisky at a local supermarket.

According to the lawyers, sometime in April 2023, at around 4pm, their client went into a TM Pick n Pay supermarket at Joina City to buy liquor.

He went to the liquor section and bought a bottle of whisky.

However, a TM Pick n Pay security guard Stanford Nyamukoroso approached Chikawa and told him that he was not supposed to be in  the supermarket.

The Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) who are representing the man said their client queried why he was not allowed, but Nyamukoroso said his decision could not be queried.

The cashier at the liquor store pleaded with Nyamukoroso to let Chikawa buy the whisky.

“Subsequently, the moment our client left the counter, Nyamukoroso grabbed our client by the waist holding him by his belt and pulled him into a private room where he handcuffed our client,” the ZLHR wrote to Matanga in their notice to sue for wrongful arrest.

“He subsequently advised our client that he was going to sleep in police cells that day because our client had bought from the TM Pick n Pay supermarket against Nyamukoroso’s will.

“Nyamukoroso took our client to Harare Central Police Station where our client was charged with disorderly conduct by Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) officers.

Police at Harare Central Police Station ordered Chikawa to pay a fine for disorderly conduct, but he refused, protesting that he had not committed any offence.

“Our client was detained at Harare Central Police Station for two days and on the second day he was taken to court on charges of disorderly conduct,” the lawyers said.

“Suffice to mention that in May 2023, our client was acquitted of the charges of disorderly conduct by the Harare Magistrates Court. At all material times, the ZRP police officers at Harare Central Police Station, who charged our client with disorderly conduct and detained our client, were acting within the course and scope of their employment with you and as such you are vicariously liable to compensate our client.

“The arrest and subsequent detention of our client by ZRP officers is unlawful and wrongful in that there was no basis at all for entertaining a reasonable suspicion that our client had committed the offence of disorderly conduct at TM Pick n Pay Joina City branch.”

“Please be advised of our client’s intention to sue for damages in terms of the State Liabilities Act. Damages to be claimed include damages for unlawful arrest and detention. The quantum of the damages sought will be computed in due course and to be furnished in the summons commencing action,” wrote ZLHR.

380 Unregistered Voters Apply For Postal Voting

HARARE – Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC), has discovered that out of the 18,013 postal voting applications received for August 23 elections, more than 380 are ineligible for voting, as they are not on the voters’ roll.

The commission is processing the applications for postal voting from members of the uniformed forces, and election officials who will be on duty on polling day.

“As soon as the verification exercise is complete, successful applicants will receive their requisite materials. The process has been partially hamstrung by nomination appeals, which are yet to be determined by the courts. These have a bearing on printing of ballot papers,” said ZEC chief elections officer, Utloile Silaigwana.

Elsewhere, ZEC has so far accredited over 300 local observers and journalists ahead of next month’s harmonised elections. Silaigwana said although no foreign observers have been so far been accredited, the process was still ongoing and to-date they have accredited 306 local observers and 85 local journalists.

The deadline for observer applications to ZEC is 18 August, four days before Election Day.

“No foreign observers have been accredited yet. As of 21 July 2023, the Commission had accredited 391 people broken down as 306 local observers and 85 local journalists. All observers must abide by the Code of Conduct for observers,” said Silaigwana.

Local observers are expected to pay a fee of US$10, observers from the rest of Africa US$100, those from foreign embassies in Zimbabwe US$300, and observers from any country outside Africa US$400.

For the media, local journalists pay US$10, Zimbabwean journalists accredited with the Zimbabwe Media Commission and working in Zimbabwe for foreign media houses will pay US$100, and media practitioners from Africa will be charged US$100.

Meanwhile, the printing of ballot papers that will be used during the August 23 harmonized elections has commenced but the process is being delayed by election-related cases that are currently before the courts.

Silaigwana said some of the cases have a bearing on the final list of candidates who will be on the ballot.

    9 ZINARA Employees Sacked

The Zimbabwe National Road Administration (Zinara) says it has suspended nine employees deployed at various tollgates for fraudulent activities.

In an internal communique from the risk and loss control unit to members of staff seen by this publication, the organisation said through a mix of risk and loss control operations, the unit picked suspicious conduct at some tolling sites.

Zinara’s head of corporate communication and marketing Tsungie Manyeza confirmed the development.

“As a rejuvenating brand, the new Zinara is leaving no stone unturned in flushing out all forms of vices that negatively impact our revenue collection mandate. The strengthening of our controls is fast yielding results in plugging revenue leakages in our systems,” Manyeza said.

“We are taking a hardline stance against all forms of fraud and we have a robust procedure in place to close off the loopholes. Meanwhile, our partnership with Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission in the forming of the integrity committee has also yielded positive results whose rolehas gone a long way in plugging leakages.”

She encouraged stakeholders to assist in plugging revenue leakages and reporting suspicious transactions.

“We aim to improve customer experience at all levels of our operations and we always encourage customers to get receipts as proof of payment for all the transactions they do. We also encourage them to check that the motor vehicle details on their receipts are correct,” Manyeza said.

Zinara has been on an aggressive rebranding drive which has led to an improved corporate governance culture.

Last week, Zinara held its 6th annual general meeting where the Transport and Infrastructural Development minister Felix Mhona implored the agency to work with various stakeholders including the media to root out corruption.

The organisation said transparency and accountability were part of its new culture.

    Mwonzora Speaks On Mass Defections

By-The MDC leader Douglas Mwonzora has accused Zanu PF of bribing his senior party members to defect to the ruling party.

These utterances by Mwonzora come after the defection last week of his MDC’s national secretary for Information, Witness Dube, to Zanu PF.

Mwonzora told Studio 7 that Zanu PF offered vast sums of money and houses to the defecting opposition politicians.

He said most of the defecting MDC officials personally told the party that Zanu PF had bought them.

Crossing the floor to Zanu PF last week, Dube wrote to Mwonzora stating that he had found a new political home in the name of the Zanu PF party. Reads the letter:

Dear MDC President and the MDC family at large, please accept this letter as formal notification that I am resigning from my position as the party’s National Secretary for Information and Publicity with immediate effect. I also wish to terminate my membership of the party which I have held since 11 November 1999, also with immediate effect.

I am grateful for having been a member of the party from the lowest to its highest organ which opened my global view of the politics of service and sacrifice. My current portfolio taught me a lot about the Zimbabwean political leadership question, and the opportunities available for working for and supporting development in our country while insulating future generations from repeating our past mistakes and recycling our past pains.

I wish the party and it’s leadership well in their future endeavours. Regrettably there will be nothing more I can do to wrap up my duties as I will be joining a new political home which I am looking forward to instantly serving with the best and all of my abilities

Dube has been a member of the main opposition party since its formation in 1999 and has held various positions within the party. His resignation comes just a day after another opposition party member, Edmore Gomba, withdrew his candidacy for the August 23 harmonised elections and joined the ruling ZANU PF party.

ZANU Admits Has No Manifesto, Despite Saying It’s Better than CCC

Unveiling ZANU PF’s Manifesto Void: Accusations without Substance

In the dynamic world of politics, manifestos serve as the backbone of a political party’s vision, policies, and promises. They provide a blueprint for governance and a glimpse into the future that the party aspires to build for its citizens. However, amidst the political landscape of Zimbabwe, the Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front (ZANU PF) stands as an enigma. Despite being the oldest political party in the nation, it seems to have focused its energies on criticizing its rivals while neglecting to craft a concrete manifesto of its own. This article aims to explore the irony of ZANU PF’s constant accusations directed towards Nelson Chamisa’s Citizen Coalition for Change party while remaining devoid of a manifesto itself.

    The Accusations:

ZANU PF, the ruling party in Zimbabwe, has consistently criticized the Citizen Coalition for Change party, led by Nelson Chamisa, for purportedly lacking a clear and comprehensive manifesto. Accusations of this nature are common in the realm of politics, but they often invite scrutiny and demand introspection. It is pertinent to analyze whether the criticism leveled against Chamisa’s party is grounded in reality or merely serves as a diversion tactic to mask the absence of ZANU PF’s own manifesto.

ZANU PF: The Oldest Party with a Hollow Core:

Founded in 1963, ZANU PF boasts a long and storied history in Zimbabwean politics. As the party that spearheaded the liberation struggle against colonial rule, it holds a significant place in the hearts of many citizens. However, with time, the party’s focus appears to have shifted away from formulating and updating its manifesto to address the evolving needs of the nation.

One might argue that ZANU PF’s historic legacy and revolutionary roots have created an environment in which it relies more on past achievements rather than a future-oriented vision. Over the years, this has culminated in a lack of urgency to articulate a fresh manifesto, as the party often assumes that its historical narrative will suffice to retain support.

    The Manifesto Void:

Despite being a mainstay in Zimbabwean politics for decades, ZANU PF has not presented a comprehensive and up-to-date manifesto that reflects the contemporary challenges and aspirations of its citizens. This void becomes evident when we compare it to other parties, both within the country and on the international stage. Many modern political parties recognize the importance of a well-defined manifesto as a means to engage voters and demonstrate a commitment to governance based on specific policies.

While ZANU PF may release occasional policy statements, they often lack the coherence and comprehensive scope expected of a manifesto. The absence of a detailed roadmap raises questions about the party’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and its ability to address the current issues faced by Zimbabweans.

    The Diversionary Tactic:

Critics argue that ZANU PF’s persistent accusations against Chamisa’s party serve as a deflection from its own inadequacies. By casting doubt on the opposition’s manifesto, the ruling party attempts to divert public attention from its own lack of a clear plan for the future. This tactic has been commonly employed in politics worldwide, where parties find it easier to focus on attacking their opponents rather than addressing their own shortcomings.

In conclusion, ZANU PF’s habit of accusing Nelson Chamisa’s Citizen Coalition for Change party of lacking a manifesto becomes deeply ironic when one realizes that the ruling party itself fails to provide a comprehensive blueprint for governance. While history and past accomplishments are valuable, they cannot replace the necessity of a well-defined manifesto that addresses the current needs and aspirations of the people.

As Zimbabwe continues to evolve, political parties must adapt to changing circumstances and engage citizens through clear and transparent policy frameworks. Only by embracing a forward-looking vision can parties truly claim to represent the interests of their constituents. Until ZANU PF rectifies its manifesto void, its accusations will be seen as hollow and serve as a reminder of the need for genuine introspection within the party.- Resmas Ncube

Meet Nelson Mnangagwa, Do You Vote For Him?

Zimbabweans Wake Up To See A Totally-Reformed Chamisa Looking Emmerson Mnangagwa, At The Face.

Chamisa Looking Emmerson Mnangagwa, generated by AI

Date 24 Aug 2023 | By Dorrothy Moyo | The political landscape in Zimbabwe has been marred by decades of turmoil and government mismanagement, leaving citizens yearning for real change. As the nation wakes up on 24th August, they are confronted with an unexpected twist in the form of a seemingly rejuvenated President Emmerson Mnangagwa. The leader, now sporting a botoxed and surgically reconstructed appearance, claims to be a reformed man, a totally Chamisa man, now offering the promise of a better Zimbabwe. However, with a history marked by controversial coups and a prolonged stay in power, Zimbabwean voters find it difficult to believe in the authenticity of this newfound transformation. This article delves into the sentiments and doubts of the Zimbabwean electorate, questioning whether they will accept a refaced Mnangagwa, given their longstanding struggle for government reforms.

    The Background of Mnangagwa’s Rule:

Emmerson Mnangagwa’s political career has been long and controversial, starting in 1980 when he took office as Zimbabwe’s first Minister of National Security. Throughout his tenure, he played a significant role in Mugabe’s government and is widely regarded as one of the key figures responsible for the regime’s oppressive policies and actions. His involvement in executing three military coups further deepened the people’s skepticism towards his promises of reform.

The Election Results and Allegations of Manipulation:

The 2018 elections brought hope to Zimbabweans as they sought change and an end to decades of authoritarian rule. However, the outcome of these elections raised eyebrows among both local and international observers, as Mnangagwa emerged as the winner amid allegations of electoral manipulation. Many Zimbabweans believed the results were skewed in his favor, sparking protests and further fueling distrust in the political system.

    The Botoxed and Reconstructed Mnangagwa:

The recent emergence of a seemingly transformed Mnangagwa, sporting a youthful appearance after cosmetic procedures, has left Zimbabweans puzzled and concerned. Such an abrupt change in appearance raises questions about the motives behind the makeover and whether it’s an attempt to manipulate public perception.

    The Paradox of Reforms:

Mnangagwa’s promise of reform, coupled with his extensive history in the government, creates a paradox that many Zimbabweans struggle to reconcile. While some may be willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, others argue that true reform would involve new leadership, not simply a superficial facelift. The scars left by his involvement in past coups and allegations of electoral fraud run deep, leaving many to question whether the refaced Mnangagwa can genuinely lead the country towards meaningful change.

    The Public Reaction:

As news of Mnangagwa’s transformed appearance and the unfolding election results spread, the public reaction is mixed. Some citizens are cautiously hopeful, willing to give him a chance to prove his commitment to real reform. On the other hand, many remain skeptical, viewing this as a mere attempt to distract from deeper issues that plague the nation.

The hearts of Zimbabwean voters find little rest as they wake up to the unexpected sight of a botoxed and surgically reconstructed Emmerson Mnangagwa. The long-standing struggle for government reforms since 1980 has left citizens wary of superficial promises. While some may be willing to accept a reformed version of the current leader, many will demand true change in leadership to pave the way for a new Zimbabwe. Only time will tell whether the refaced Mnangagwa can gain the trust and support of a nation yearning for genuine transformation.

    Green Fuel Shock DeMbare

Dynamos coach Herbert Maruwa has rued his team’s wasted chances in their 1-0 league loss to Green Fuel.

The Glamour Boys failed to convert several chances that fell on their way through out the entire game.

Their biggest opportunity came on the stroke of half-time when Donald Dzvinyai missed a penalty.

Green Fuel didn’t threaten much and made use of a 71st minute breakaway which resulted in Nqobile Ndlovu hitting the back of the net.

Speaking after the match, Maruwa said: “We got a penalty which was missed, so normally in football when you don’t utilise your chances you get punished.

“We were punished by a silly header, but we have to quickly go back to the drawing board to make sure we come right in the next game.

“But I am very disappointed with the way we applied ourselves especially having come from a win against Chicken Inn and then we come here and lose to a team, which is in the relegation zone.”

The result ended Dynamos’ four-match undefeated run, while the team remained in fourth place with 25 points.-Soccer24 News

BREAKING: Police Bomb Chamisa Rally With Teargas

By Farai D Hove | Rutenga, – A peaceful gathering of thousands of citizens, who had assembled to hear the address of Citizens Coalition for Change Party leader Nelson Chamisa, turned into chaos as police tear-gassed and violently dispersed the crowd. The incident took place shortly after Chamisa concluded a meeting in Beitbridge, where he spoke for close to an hour. With the 2023 elections on the horizon, tensions are running high as Chamisa prepares to challenge President Emmerson Mnangagwa and ten other contestants in what is expected to be a highly contested race.

The crowds had gathered in Rutenga, eager to hear the opposition leader’s message and support his party’s campaign efforts. However, the atmosphere quickly shifted when riot police moved in to disperse the crowd, using tear gas and force to break up the assembly.

In response to the police action, the Citizens Party released an official statement denouncing the incident as “illegal” and condemning the heavy-handed tactics employed by the authorities. The party leaders expressed deep concern over the violation of their supporters’ right to peacefully assemble and voiced outrage at the use of tear gas to suppress their democratic rights.

Eyewitnesses recounted scenes of chaos and confusion as the tear gas filled the air, causing panic among the crowd. Some citizens attempted to disperse peacefully, while others voiced their resistance to the police action. The attack by law enforcement agents on the gathering led to a tense and charged atmosphere in Rutenga.

With the 2023 elections just around the corner, this incident is likely to further intensify the political climate in Zimbabwe. Nelson Chamisa, known for his vocal stance on democratic reforms and social justice, has gained significant support across the nation. His campaign message resonates with many Zimbabweans who are hoping for change and progress.

As news of the clash spreads, citizens and human rights groups are calling for an immediate investigation into the actions of the police during the incident. Concerns about potential human rights abuses and electoral violence are being raised, placing the government under scrutiny to ensure a fair and peaceful electoral process.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration has yet to respond to the incident, but the growing unrest and public discontent could pose challenges for his re-election bid.

The international community is closely monitoring the situation, with international organizations urging the authorities to uphold citizens’ rights to peaceful assembly and expression. The upcoming 2023 elections will undoubtedly be a critical moment for Zimbabwe, and the events in Rutenga serve as a stark reminder of the importance of preserving democratic principles and respecting citizens’ voices in the political process.

As developments continue to unfold, the nation awaits further actions from both the government and the opposition, hoping for a peaceful resolution and a transparent electoral process on 23 August.

    About The Elderly

    Key facts

Around 1 in 6 people 60 years and older experienced some form of abuse in community settings during the past year.
Rates of abuse of older people are high in institutions such as nursing homes and long-term care facilities, with 2 in 3 staff reporting that they have committed abuse in the past year.
Rates of abuse of older people have increased during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Abuse of older people can lead to serious physical injuries and long-term psychological consequences.
Abuse of older people is predicted to increase as many countries are experiencing rapidly ageing populations.
The global population of people aged 60 years and older will more than double, from 900 million in 2015 to about 2 billion in 2050.
    Overview

The abuse of older people, also known as elder abuse, is a single or repeated act, or lack of appropriate action, occurring within any relationship where there is an expectation of trust, which causes harm or distress to an older person. This type of violence constitutes a violation of human rights and includes physical, sexual, psychological and emotional abuse; financial and material abuse; abandonment; neglect; and serious loss of dignity and respect.

    Scope of the problem
Abuse of older people is an important public health problem. A 2017 review of 52 studies in 28 countries from diverse regions estimated that over the past year 1 in 6 people (15.7%) aged 60 years and older were subjected to some form of abuse (1). Although rigorous data are limited, the review provides prevalence estimates of the proportion of older people affected by different types of abuse.

Data on the extent of the problem in institutions such as hospitals, nursing homes and other long-term care facilities are scarce. However, a review of recent studies on abuse of older people in institutional settings (2) indicates that 64.2% of staff reported perpetrating some form of abuse in the past year.

Emerging evidence indicates that the prevalence of abuse of older people in both the community and in institutions have increased during the COVID-19 pandemic. A US study, for instance, suggests that rates in the community may have increased by as much as 84% (3).

Abuse of older people in community settings
Abuse of older people in institutional settings
Globally, the number of cases of elder abuse is projected to increase as many countries have rapidly ageing populations. Even if the proportion of victims of abuse of older people remains constant, the global number of victims will increase rapidly due to population ageing, growing to some 320 million victims by 2050, as the global population of people aged 60 years and more increases to 2 billion by 2050.

    Consequences
Abuse of older people can have serious physical and mental health, financial, and social consequences, including, for instance, physical injuries, premature mortality, depression, cognitive decline, financial devastation and placement in nursing homes. For older people, the consequences of abuse can be especially serious and recovery may take longer (4).

    Risk factors
Individual level characteristics which increase the risk of becoming a victim of abuse include functional dependence/disability, poor physical health, cognitive impairment, poor mental health and low income. Individual level characteristics which increase the risk of becoming a perpetrator of abuse include mental illness, substance abuse and dependency – often financial – of the abuser on the victim. At the relationship level, the type of relationship (e.g., spouse/partner or child/parent) and marital status may be associated with an elevated risk of abuse, but these factors vary by country and region. Community- and societal-level factors linked to elder abuse may include ageism against older people and certain cultural norms (e.g., normalization of violence). Social support and living alone reduce the likelihood of elder abuse (5).

    Prevention
Many strategies have been tried to prevent and respond to abuse of older people, but evidence for the effectiveness of most of these interventions is limited at present. Strategies considered most promising include caregiver interventions, which provide services to relieve the burden of caregiving; money management programmes for older adults vulnerable to financial exploitation; helplines and emergency shelters; and multi-disciplinary teams, as the responses required often cut across many systems, including criminal justice, health care, mental health care, adults protective services and long-term care (5).

In some countries, the health sector has taken a leading role in raising public concern about abuse of older people, while in others the social welfare sector has taken the lead. Globally, too little is known about elder abuse and how to prevent it, particularly in developing countries.

Zimbabwe Listed As Second Largest Consumer Of Beef Globally

By A Correspondent- Zimbabwe has been listed among the world’s leading consumers of beef, coming second after Argentina.

According to data released by Visual Capitalists on Most Consumed Meat in the World, Zimbabweans consumed an average of 42,3 kilogrammes of beef per capita per person last year, while  Argentines consumed 46,6 kilogrammes per capita.

Argentina’s 46 million-strong population eats nearly 47kg of bovine meat per person annually, the most by any country in the United Nations’ database.

Other countries in the top five are the United States of America, Australia and Brazil.

Food scientist and culinary expert, Rumbidzai Zarima, said the survey highlights the significant role that beef plays in the daily lives and cultural fabric of Zimbabwean society.

“The love for beef in Zimbabwe can be traced back to history. Cattle rearing has been an integral part of Zimbabwean culture for centuries, with cattle being a symbol of wealth, status, and prosperity,” Zarima said.

“The tradition of cattle farming has been passed down through generations, and the importance of beef in local cuisine has remained steadfast.”

Zarima said the beef industry has also played a vital role in the country’s economy.

“The sector provides employment opportunities for thousands of people, from cattle farmers to abattoir workers and meat processors. Additionally, the export of beef products contributes to foreign exchange earnings, further bolstering the nation’s economy.”

Despite eating more seafood and poultry, Hong Kong leads the world in pork consumption per capita annually at 55kg.

Poland and Spain – who are also top pork producers – rank close behind Hong Kong with similar pork consumption numbers.

    Another Mwonzora Top Aide Resigns

By-The Douglas Mwonzora has suffered another blow as its national secretary for Information, Witness Dube, resigns.

In a letter addressed to the party president, Douglas Mwonzora, Dube announced his resignation and termination of his membership, stating that he had found a new political party that he would be joining.

    Chiefs Demand Diplomatic Passports

By- Traditional chiefs are demanding diplomatic passports from the Government for what they call ease of travel across borders.

Chief Clemence Nembiri of Mt Darwin in Mashonaland Central province made the demand during a Civil Registry Department workshop on Wednesday.
The workshop with the national council of Chiefs on the implementation of active notification for community births and deaths was held at a local hotel.
Contributing during a question-and-answer session, Chief Nembiri said it was imperative that Government gives traditional leaders the special travel document since they were also leaders.
“There is a need for chiefs to be given diplomatic passports. At the moment you find that these documents are even given to people whose leadership position is never guaranteed but is at the mercy of either the appointing authority or the people who vote. Such people may be in power for just a few years yet they are quickly given diplomatic passports but a chief, whose title is neither by appointment nor through the ballot does not have that privilege. We are harassed at the borders despite the fact that we lead the masses too,” said Chief Nembiri.
In response, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Major General (Rtd) Dr Gerald Gwinji said issuing diplomatic passports was the purview of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and international relations.
“As a Ministry, we do not determine who gets a diplomatic passport and who does not. That is done by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Relations. Ours is only to process upon communication from Foreign Affairs that so and so must be a recipient of a diplomatic passport, however, I will engage and pass on the request and we will copy the president of the Chiefs Council as proof of that engagement,” said Maj Gen (Rtd) Gwinji. Victory For Chamisa As Candidates Win Disqualification Appeal

By-Two Nelson Chamisa-led Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) candidates have won their appeals against the disqualification for local authority elections in Gwanda, Matabeleland South.
Joseph Khumalo of Ward 6 in Gwanda RDC had his papers rejected by the nomination court on June 21.
His appeal was heard by Justice Dube Banda of the Bulawayo High Court on Wednesday.
His lawyer Professor Welshman Ncube told ZimLive: “He was disqualified on the basis that his name did not appear on that ward’s voters roll.
“ZEC conceded that they made a mistake and that he was improperly disqualified, and we got a court order reinstating him as a candidate.”
The CCC failed, however, to have the disqualification of Mandlenkosi Moyo, its candidate for Ward 2 in Gwanda urban, overturned.
Ncube explained: “He was disqualified on the basis that he was not a registered voter in Ward 2. It was confirmed that the delimitation had removed him from Ward 2 and put him in Ward 7. We couldn’t get him instated because he is now outside the boundaries of Ward 2.
“The map was redrawn in such a way that his polling station and his physical address where he lives were all moved to Ward 7 out of Ward 2, so we conceded that he was properly disqualified because he is not a registered voter in Ward 2 but in Ward 7.”
A list gazetted by ZEC shortly after the sitting of the nomination court on June 21 showed Zanu PF had fielded all 1,974 candidates for local authority elections while the CCC had managed to field in 1,869 – 105 short of target.
The CCC has several appeals in court to overturn some of the disqualifications.

GoVote2023: Mobilizing Students, Young People Towards 2023 Election

By Boris Muguti | On Monday, 10 July 2023, we in the Zimbabwe National Students Union (ZINASU) launched a campaign dubbed #GoVote2023. Following the launch, many questions have been raised about our particular campaign, the most important being what it means. In this piece, I will shed more light on the campaign and how students and young Zimbabweans can come on board and be part of it.

    Boris Muguti

The #GoVote2023 campaign comes as an extension of the broader campaign which was launched by ZINASU early this year which is themed; ‘Reclaiming the dignity of students through the ballot.’ This is our political program which we launched to ensure that students and young people play a key role in the upcoming election. In the last phase of the campaign ZINASU focused on making sure that students and young people across the country become registered voters. We also honed in on spreading voter education in communities.

That particular phase of the campaign came to an end in May 2023 when the election date was proclaimed. The fact that one is a registered voter is not guarantee that he/she will go and cast his/her vote on the polling day. Hence there is need to keep students and young people reminded that they have to go out and vote on the 23rd of August. Research shows that in 2018 about 40% of young people who were registered to vote did not turn up to vote on the 30 July 2018 to cast their votes.

Thus the #GoVote2023 campaign serves to reduce voter apathy among the youths, particularly students. This election means a lot to students and all young people across Zimbabwe. It comes at a time at which their future has been ruined and their freedoms have been taken away by the military regime. It therefore high time for young people to rise up and defend their future through the ballot. Malcolm X once said “the ballot is stronger than the bullet” and yes we shall rise up and defend our future through the ballot. The ballot will liberate us on 23 August if we unite as a generation and act responsibly.

Due to the fact that almost all Universities are closed and all Polytechnic Colleges and Teachers’ Colleges are closing in the coming days, the following ways will be used to roll out the campaign:

    1. Social media.

The campaign is running online and anyone can join it from anywhere and at anytime using the following #GoVote2023 and #StudentsVote. To play an active role in this campaign or become part of it people can; record videos or write short messages encouraging students and young people to go out and vote on 23 August.

    Why social media?
Social media plays a fundamental role in facilitating global conversations, breaking down barriers and fostering collaboration. In the Zimbabwean context the regime of Emmerson Mnangagwa is refusing to implement media reforms. All state media is in the armpits of the ruling party ZANU PF. State media is always glorifying Mnangagwa and his party which leaves one wondering whether companies like ZBC really qualify to be referred to as “state media” or they are private media houses for the ruling party ZANU PF. Hence under such circumstances social media becomes a powerful alternative to reach out to millions of people across the country.

    2. #GoVote2023 community teams.
Given that many students are at home now. We are coming up with #GoVote2033 teams and these are small groups comprising of students and young people in different communities across the country. These teams are targeting areas like playing grounds, Wi-Fi hotspot areas, betting shops and pubs where young people are normally found. Our teams will use this opportunity to preach the gospel to our fellow young people and encourage them to go out and vote in their numbers on the Election Day.

N.B we are releasing fliers carrying messages about why students young people should go out and cast their votes on 23 August. Follow us on Facebook: Zimbabwe National Students Union or on Twitter: @ZinasuZim to get access to our fliers.

Not voting is voting for the incumbent government. #GoVote2023! Let’s all go out and vote for betterment.

Teacher Given Ultimatum To Resign Over Links To Zanu PF

By A Correspondent| A prospective voter has given the Civil Service Commission (CSC) a five-day ultimatum to urgently institute measures to effect the automatic resignation of a school teacher after he was recently
nominated to contest as a ZANU PF political party candidate in local government elections scheduled for next month.

Only Katanda, who resides in Guruve in Mashonaland Central province enlisted the services of Tinashe Chinopfukutwa of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights, to assist him in getting the CSC to take remedial action against Samuel Machumi, who is employed by CSC through the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education as a teacher at Nyamhondoro Secondary School in Guruve in Mashonaland Central province, by terminating his employment contract so as to stop flouting the Constitution, the Electoral Act and some provisions of the CSC.

According to section 200(3)(a) and (b) of the Constitution, civil servants are barred from acting in a partisan manner and from furthering the interests of any political party or cause.

On Thursday 20 July 2023, Chinopfukutwa wrote a letter to CSC requesting it to urgently act in terminating Machuma’s contract of employment as a teacher saying he cannot remain as a civil servant and at the same time a politician.

Chinopfukutwa reminded the CSC that it issued a notice dated 17 May 2023 in which it stated that members of the Civil Service who wished to contest in the forthcoming general elections either as councilors or members of the National Assembly should write a letter to it declaring their intention to contest the election and the members would be deemed to have automatically resigned on the date on which authority to contest would have been granted.

He said despite it being clear that Machumi is contesting for a local government seat as a ZANU PF political party candidate for Ward 11 in Guruve South, he had continued attending to his teaching duties at Nyamhondoro Secondary School.

The CSC, Chinopfukutwa said, must within five days, institute measures to effect Machumi’s automatic resignation from employment as a teacher failure of which he will consider instituting appropriate legal action to have him barred from continuing to discharge his duties as a teacher.

    Nakamba Returns To Luton Town

Marvelous Nakamba says he is excited to return to Luton Town on a permanent transfer.

Nakamba signed a three-year-contract with the Hatters after leaving Aston Villa.

He rejoined the club having spent the second half of the previous campaign on loan.

Speaking in his first interview after signing the contract with Luton, the Warriors international explained what pushed him to return to the Kenilworth Road.

“I’m very excited to be back home at Luton to continue the journey,” he said, as quoted by the Luton Town website.

“When I joined on loan, I felt love from everyone – the manager, the board, the staff, the players and the fans. I was welcomed as part of the family and that pushed me to give everything for this club and help achieve the goal we had last season, which we did.

“The fans really welcomed me and made me feel energised and motivated to do well, so it was unbelievable to pay them back in way that we did. To see them at Wembley celebrating brought tears of joy. It was real love.

“Over the summer the manager has been saying ‘you need to be here!’ and I’m so happy, so excited to now be back and ready for the season.”

The Hatters coach Rob Edwards said: “I think he felt that love. Everyone felt that he enjoyed himself and that it felt like home for him. That’s why it is special because he felt it was right, he felt comfortable, at home – and now he is.”

The gaffer added: “It’s a huge statement for the club going forward. To bring in a player of his quality on a permanent transfer speaks volumes of where this football club is going, how ambitious we are and where we intend to go.

“We want to keep moving forward, it’s really exciting times and Marv is another addition, together with the ones we brought in, that I think are really going to improve us.”-Soccer24 News

Granting Chiefs Diplomatic Passports Ahead Of 2023 Elections | SENSIBLE or NONSENSE?

Sensibility of Granting Diplomatic Passports to Traditional Chiefs ahead of Zimbabwe’s 2023 Elections

The call for granting diplomatic passports to traditional chiefs in Zimbabwe has sparked a debate on the sensibility and implications of such a move, particularly in the context of the upcoming 2023 elections. Chief Clemence Nembiri of Mt Darwin made this request during a workshop with the national council of Chiefs, arguing that traditional leaders should be treated as leaders and granted this privilege for ease of travel across borders. However, the proposal raises concerns about potential perceptions of bribery and the abuse of power among some traditional chiefs. This article will analyze the merits and drawbacks of granting diplomatic passports to traditional chiefs and the potential consequences it may have on Zimbabwe’s political landscape.

The Role of Traditional Chiefs in Zimbabwe:

Traditional chiefs play a significant role in Zimbabwe’s governance and societal structure. They are recognized as custodians of cultural heritage and are often considered as important local leaders, especially in rural communities. Their primary responsibilities include settling disputes, overseeing communal affairs, and maintaining order within their respective villages. Many chiefs enjoy deep respect and loyalty from their communities.

Chief Nembiri’s Call for Diplomatic Passports:

Chief Nembiri’s request for diplomatic passports stems from the perception that traditional chiefs are also leaders and should be granted the same privileges as other government officials. He argues that temporary leaders, such as politicians elected by the people or appointed officials, often receive diplomatic passports despite having limited terms in office. In contrast, traditional chiefs hold hereditary positions and remain in their roles throughout their lives, yet they do not enjoy the same travel privileges.

Perceived Bribery and Abuse of Power:

One of the main concerns surrounding the granting of diplomatic passports to traditional chiefs is the potential perception of bribery. Diplomatic passports are typically reserved for government officials and diplomats who represent the country’s interests abroad. Providing these passports to traditional chiefs could be seen as an attempt to buy their loyalty or secure their support for political purposes, especially in the lead-up to the 2023 elections. This perception could undermine the credibility of the electoral process and erode public trust in the government.

Moreover, there have been instances of abuse of power by certain traditional chiefs in Zimbabwe. Reports of corruption, misuse of authority, and failure to act impartially have marred the reputations of some traditional leaders. Granting diplomatic passports to chiefs without appropriate checks and balances might exacerbate these issues, leading to increased exploitation of power and privileges.

Potential Benefits of Diplomatic Passports for Chiefs:

On the other hand, proponents argue that diplomatic passports could enhance the chiefs’ ability to engage in regional and international matters on behalf of their communities. Facilitating their travel could enable them to participate in conferences, workshops, and cultural events, fostering cross-border collaboration and enhancing cultural exchanges.

    Finding a Balanced Approach:

Instead of automatically granting diplomatic passports to all traditional chiefs, a more prudent approach would involve assessing each individual case based on merit and necessity. Chiefs with a proven track record of promoting community development, preserving cultural heritage, and fostering regional cooperation could be considered for diplomatic passports, provided there are transparent guidelines and stringent accountability mechanisms in place.

The call for granting diplomatic passports to traditional chiefs in Zimbabwe ahead of the 2023 elections presents both opportunities and challenges. While it could enable chiefs to represent their communities on the international stage, it also raises concerns about potential perceptions of bribery and exacerbation of power abuse among some chiefs. Striking a balanced approach that considers merit and transparency in the selection process is crucial to ensure that the move, if implemented, promotes responsible leadership and benefits Zimbabwe as a whole. Ultimately, the decision rests with the relevant authorities, and careful consideration of all implications is essential before any action is taken.

    Bosso Coach Attacks Own Executive

Highlanders coach Baltemar Brito has blamed the club’s leadership for failing to get the signature of in-form Bulawayo Chiefs striker Obriel Chirinda.

Brito has been monitoring Chirinda since last year and pushed the club to sign the player in this mid-season transfer window.

The striker, who moved to Chiefs this year, is in top form and has so far notched home seven goals, one behind top goalscorer Fortune Binzi of Manica Diamonds.

The former Chicken Inn man netted a hat-trick over the weekend to stir Amakhosi to a second successive win.

Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Brito bemoaned about failing to : “About bringing players (to the club) we don’t have the mentality or the culture to bring numbers. We look for one player and we look for some characteristics that the boy has and can come and upgrade our game in terms of quality.

“Obriel Chirinda is one of the many players that we put pressure on. It is not now that we made that pressure even last season, we wanted him because he is one player that we like, is one player who can fit into our game giving us a different dimension that we don’t have in our game.”

The gaffer added that the club’s leadership stopped the pursuit to sign Chirinda after receiving false information about the player.

He continued: “At the beginning of this month, we were close to bringing him in but there was some bad information, we don’t know if it was correct or wrong but I think the information was not true but the board (management) listened to these people and decided to bring the player later. Bulawayo Chiefs changed their coach and the player starts scoring, bringing him in now has become even harder. ”

With the mid-season transfer window set to close in just over a week, Highlanders are racing with time to reinforce the squad with a few new players.-Soccer24 News

What’s Mnangagwa Up To In Russia?

President Mnangagwa’s Russia Visit: Priorities Amidst Economic Crisis

Emmerson Mnangagwa’s upcoming visit to Russia for the Second Russia-Africa Economic and Humanitarian Forum has raised questions and concerns among Zimbabweans. With reports of underpaid doctors and a struggling healthcare system back home, the decision to attend an international economic event may seem puzzling to many. In this article, we will analyze the reasons behind President Mnangagwa’s visit to Russia and explore the potential benefits and implications of his participation in the forum.

    The Importance of Economic Forums:

Economic forums serve as vital platforms for countries to strengthen international relations, explore new trade opportunities, and foster economic cooperation. These events facilitate bilateral and multilateral discussions, promoting dialogue and understanding between nations. Attending such forums allows leaders to present their country’s economic potential and seek foreign investments to stimulate growth and development.

    Zimbabwe’s Ongoing Economic Challenges:

Zimbabwe has faced prolonged economic challenges, including hyperinflation, high unemployment rates, and limited access to foreign currency. The healthcare sector has not been immune to these issues, leading to underpaid doctors and a healthcare crisis. Many medical professionals have voiced their grievances, demanding fair wages and better working conditions.

    Analyzing Mnangagwa’s Decision:

The decision to attend the Second Russia-Africa Economic and Humanitarian Forum amidst the ongoing healthcare crisis in Zimbabwe may be seen as controversial. Critics argue that President Mnangagwa’s priorities should lie with addressing pressing domestic issues before engaging in international events. They contend that his presence at the forum might be perceived as a lack of concern for the suffering of medical workers and the broader population.

On the other hand, proponents of the visit argue that engaging in economic forums is essential for attracting foreign investments and fostering economic growth in Zimbabwe. They believe that strengthening international relations can lead to potential partnerships and assistance in addressing the country’s economic challenges, including the healthcare crisis.

    Potential Benefits and Outcomes:

By attending the forum, President Mnangagwa aims to leverage the foundations laid during the inaugural Russia-Africa Summit in 2019. This visit provides an opportunity to sign Memoranda of Understanding or Agreements with Russia, opening doors for potential cooperation and investments that could benefit Zimbabwe’s struggling economy.

However, the success of such agreements will depend on their implementation and how effectively they address the country’s economic issues, including the plight of underpaid doctors and healthcare workers.

    Public Perception and Accountability:

The public’s perception of President Mnangagwa’s visit to Russia will be critical in shaping his government’s image and accountability. While engaging in international events is essential, it is crucial for leaders to demonstrate a genuine commitment to resolving pressing domestic concerns, including the healthcare crisis.

President Mnangagwa’s decision to attend the Second Russia-Africa Economic and Humanitarian Forum has elicited both support and criticism. While economic cooperation is crucial for Zimbabwe’s growth, leaders must balance their international engagements with addressing urgent domestic issues. The success of the visit will be measured by the outcomes and actions taken to alleviate the hardships faced by the country’s underpaid doctors and the broader population amidst the ongoing economic crisis.

    Chamisa Candidates Win Disqualification Appeal

By-The Nelson Chamisa-led Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) has won one of its two appeals against the disqualification of its candidates for local authority elections in Gwanda, Matabeleland South.
Joseph Khumalo of Ward 6 in Gwanda RDC had his papers rejected by the nomination court on June 21.

    Chamisa Targets Mnangagwa Strongholds

By-The opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) says 80% of its leader Nelson Chamisa’s campaign rallies will be held in the rural areas, which is traditionally viewed as a Zanu PF stronghold.
CCC spokesperson, Fadzayi Mahere, said they had started implementing the strategy, with Chamisa addressing three rallies in Midlands province on Wednesday, starting with one at Chachacha business centre in Shurugwi.
By mid-day he was at Mhandamabwe business centre in Chivi before ending the day in Zvishavane.
“President Chamisa has been on a campaign trail non-stop. These rallies are going to be predominantly in the rural areas,” Mahere said.
“We know the people we are dealing with, so we are not going to give them a schedule right here right now. We know they are here and they are listening but rest assured that our bona fide media would be told.
“Sometimes for the protection of citizens in certain areas we have to do things and then report afterwards so that the citizens remain safe where they are.”
Zanu PF has maintained a footprint in the rural areas, but security reports from the ruling party reveal concerns over the way CCC is making inroads into its support base.
Chamisa has been having it rough in holding his campaign rallies, with police blocking most of the events citing various reasons.
Just yesterday, police barred CCC from holding roadshows in Beitbridge to drum up support for Chamisa’s Sunday rally in the border town.
The CCC took the matter to court, but Beitbridge magistrate Takudzwa Gwazemba ruled in favour of the police.
Gwazemba said police’s claims that they had inadequate resources to provide escort during the roadshows were genuine.
Police have blocked several CCC rallies across the country including the party’s 2023 election campaign launch which was scheduled for Bindura.
Chamisa was only allowed to launch his election campaign in Gweru, Midlands province, on Sunday.
On rallies being banned, Mahere said: “The ban on CCC rallies has nothing to do with the law and everything to do with repression.
“In those instances where police say that we have not complied with the Maintenance of Peace and Order Act (Mopa) they are unable to articulate which section would have been violated because there is simply no non-compliance.
“Our letters notifying the police are on a template. The police are not being honest.”
Analysts yesterday commended Chamisa for his deliberate strategy to target the rural vote.
“Rural areas are also where the democratic space is most constrained through a cocktail of measures that includes intimidation, violence, partisan traditional leadership and exclusionary welfare programmes,” political analyst Vivid Gwede said.
“Visibility by the opposition will break some of these barriers to its message being received by these communities.”
Another political commentator Effie Ncube said the rural vote could gift Chamisa the presidency.
“For the opposition the rural electorate has been its underbelly. It’s been underperforming otherwise it would have been in power,” Ncube said.
“Those are the people that have sustained Zanu PF’s stay in power, so if you want to undo Zanu PF’s stay in power you need to go into its base that is in the rural areas and get the votes there.”
Analyst Rashweat Mukundu weighed in saying: “Targeting rural communities gives such voting base assurance and confidence but also challenges Zanu PF more directly in an area it sees as its safe political turf.” Newsday

Inside Uebert Angel’s New PAP Job

By Brilliant Pongo | In a what has been viewed as a controversial move, Zimbabwean President Munagagwa has named Uebert Angel as an Ambassador of the African Union’s Pan African Parliament for Interfaith Dialogue and Humanitarian Affairs. The appointment has drawn criticism in some quarters that view the charismatic modern prophet as a unrepentant criminal.

    Uebert Angel

Uebert Angel was entangled in the now infamous scandal dubbed the ‘Gold Mafia’ a documentary aired on Al Jazeera news which exposed the criminal activities involving illegal gold dealings.

“Just as people were getting to grips with the aftermath the Gold Mafia scandal, it looks as though, President Mnangagwa has rewarded Uebert Angel with another fancy post.” Said one commentator.

Uebert Angel is currently serving as Ambassador at large for Europe and the Americas, a role that seems to have been tailor made for him. It is yet unclear whether he will hold both posts or relinquish the other.

The leader and prophet of The Good News Church, has never been shy of controversy and has always been entangled in a web of scandals.

ZANU PF legal analysts say Uebert Angel has no diplomatic immunity like would be if he was a representative of a real Parliament, though technically in reality he appears an honourable, and the PAP itself on its website says:

“The aim of the Pan-African Parliament is to evolve into an institution with full legislative powers, whose members are elected by universal adult suffrage.”

This means that the PAP has no legislative powers at all; it is just a pressure group that affiliates itself to the AU.

Whatever the is, the reality is Uebert has crawled his way up the institutional opaquenees of the AU and assumed perceived continental power.

    The Role:

Role of Interfaith Dialogue and Humanitarian Affairs in the African Union’s Pan African Parliament:
The African Union’s Pan African Parliament serves as a critical platform for fostering unity, peace, and development across the African continent. Within this parliamentary body, the two key pillars of interfaith dialogue and humanitarian affairs play pivotal roles in addressing various challenges faced by African nations.

    Interfaith Dialogue:

In a continent as diverse as Africa, characterized by different cultures, religions, and traditions, interfaith dialogue becomes an essential component for promoting understanding, harmony, and cooperation. It encourages religious leaders and representatives from different faiths to come together to engage in constructive conversations, address common concerns, and find shared solutions to societal issues. By fostering tolerance and mutual respect, interfaith dialogue paves the way for peaceful coexistence and ensures that religion becomes a unifying force rather than a source of division.

Despite his philanthropic work, questions remain about his suitability for such a high-profile diplomatic post in the Pan African Parliament, especially in light of these unresolved accusations.

    ZEC Speaks on Postal Voting

By-The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has released a fact sheet explaining how postal voting will work for the upcoming 2023 harmonized elections scheduled for August 23rd.

Postal voting is available for members of the disciplined force on duty, electoral officers deployed outside their polling areas, and diplomats and their spouses serving outside Zimbabwe on the election day.

ZEC said to apply for postal voting; eligible persons must submit an application to the ZEC Chief Elections Officer no later than noon on the 14th day after nomination day. Once approved, the applicant will receive three postal ballots: one for the Presidential, one for the National Assembly, and one for the local authority elections. After marking their chosen candidates in secret, they must place the ballots in envelopes, seal them, and return them to the Chief Elections Officer. Processing of postal votes is being done at the TelOne Centre in Belvedere, Harare.
There are no designated venues for postal voting, and voters who choose to vote by post will neither vote at polling stations nor in the presence of polling staff, observers, or election agents. However, members of the public may inspect the postal vote applications and the register of all applications for postal ballot papers at the postal vote processing centre.
The Commission’s policy is to allow electoral officers on duty to vote on a rotational basis without disrupting the polling process. ZEC said it is committed to ensuring that no eligible voters are disenfranchised, and electoral officers who feel that their participation may

Nakamba Speaks On Return To Luton Town

    Bosso Coach Blasts Executive
