Mnangagwa Closes 300 NGOs

By- The government has deregistered 291 private voluntary organisations for not submitting their annual returns to the authorities.

Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Minister Paul Mavima told the state media that the PVOs were deregistered for different reasons but mainly because of their failure to submit audited financial statements.

He said:
The reasons for deregistration vary from one organisation to another, but basically, most of them failed to submit the needed annual returns as mandated by the Act.
Typically, you will find that on rare occasions there are issues of national security, but those are very rare.
The main problem was people biting off more than they could chew.
People just register but they do not deliver on their mandate, and also some cannot keep up with the requirements for reporting, and therefore they end up being deregistered.
For example, they say they want to provide services to vulnerable people, maybe children, maybe elderly people.
They bring brilliant ideas, but on implementation, they find that they cannot get the resources that are needed and they cannot keep up with the requirements.
That is to say bring the report on an annual basis, and bring audited financial statements.
As a result, they fail to comply, let alone deliver on the mandate so they end up being deregistered because they have not fulfilled the requirements for registration.
The registrar of the PVOs had earlier announced the cancellation of the certificates of the delisted organisations for not complying with what the Act required. It said in a statement:
The Registrar of Private Voluntary Organisations in conjunction with the Private Voluntary Organisation Board has noted with concern that a number of registered private voluntary organisations are not complying with the prescribed expectations of their operations, as outlined in terms of the Private Voluntary Organisation Act (Chapter 17:05).
Accordingly, the Registrar of Private Voluntary Organisations and the Private Voluntary Organisation Board have therefore deregistered 291 organisations that were found to be non-compliant with the provisions of the Private Voluntary Organisation Act.

Revealed : How Vapositori Tried To Avert Muvhevhi Terror

The Hwedza apostolic church leader who was allegedly killed by former police detective Jaison Muvevi met his death while conducting rituals at his shrine to forestall the tragic events of January 13, his followers say.

Chrispen Kanerusine (48) who was popularly known as Madzibaba Sirage from the Johane Masowe Chishanu Nguwo Chena sect was the first person to be killed by Muvevi in the Negombwe area.

The officer-in-charge of Hwedza police camp Inspector Maxwell Hove (43) and 27-yearold Munashe Majani, who was a barman at Ruzema Bottlestore, Mukamba Business Centre were also shot to death within hours of Sirage’s cold blooded murder. A fellow apostolic sect leader Edison Moyo, also known as Madzibaba Eddie, told Standard People that Kanerusine had prophesied his demise.

“A week before, he prophetically told congregants that he saw a flag at half-mast near the shrine,” Moyo said.

“He said efforts to raise the flag from the half-mast were in vain.”

On the fateful day, some men from a different apostolic sect shrine are said to have made a prophecy about the bloody events at Kanerusine’s shrine.

They allegedly warned the sect’s members to stop attending meetings involving Kanerusine and said blood was going to be shed at the shrine.

The men performed some spiritual divination acts including going around the shrine three times.

“After that, Madzibaba Sirage took over and that is when Muvevi came and shot him dead,” Moyo said.

“If the three men had travelled earlier the death could have been avoided, we could have prayed fervently but like what he had told the people, the flag refused to be raised higher.”

Sect members said Kanerusine was well-known for his “gift” in foretelling the future as well as assisting those with afflictions spiritually.

He was also a trader who, when not at the shrine, would move around villages and business centres selling different wares among them leather belts.- The Standard

ZEC Refuses To Release Electronic Voters’ Roll

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has argued in court that it is within its rights to refuse to issue electronic copies of the voters’ roll claiming recipients can tamper with them.

This comes after a local independent watchdog, Project Vote 263, took the electoral commission to the High Court for refusing to issue them with a soft copy of the roll.

Project Vote 263 contended that it was their decision whether to have a hard or soft copy and that ZEC’s refusal precluded them from participating in election processes because a voters’ roll is a constitutional requirement.

The watchdog argued that Section 21 (3) of the Electoral Act obliges ZEC to offer a soft copy and was unreasonable for them to offer a hard copy, which is quite expensive and voluminous.

Section 21(3) states “the Commission shall within a reasonable period of time provide any person who requests it, and who pays the prescribed fee, with a copy of any ward or constituency voters roll, either in printed or in electronic form as the person may request.”

In their notice of opposition to Project Vote 263’s founding affidavit, ZEC, through its Chief Elections Officer, Utloile Silaigwana, said the request for the soft copy, using Section 21 (3) of the Electoral Act (Chapter 2:13) by the applicant, was incorrect.

“That subsection of the Electoral Act, contrary to the averred position by the Applicant, does not give rise to the absolute rights and immutable obligations expressed by the Applicant’s deponent,” read ZEC’s opposing affidavit

Silaigwana stated that where a voters’ roll is to be furnished in electronic form in terms of, inter alia, Section 21(3), the roll may be formatted so as to prevent it from being altered or otherwise tampered with, and the Respondent can impose reasonable conditions on the provision of the roll to discourage it from being used for commercial or other purposes unrelated to an election.

According to the Electoral Act Section 21(7) –”Where a voters roll is provided in electronic form in terms of subsection (3), (4) or (6), its format shall be such as allows its contents to be searched and analysed: Provided that-

(i) the roll may be formatted so as to prevent its being altered or otherwise tampered with;

(ii) the Commission may impose reasonable conditions on the provision of the roll to prevent it from being used for commercial or other purposes unconnected with an election.”

These “reasonable conditions,” as emphasized by ZEC, do not imply a refusal to provide a soft copy of the voters’ roll, as the electoral commission is required to ensure that the copy of the voters’ roll is in such a format.

According to ZEC’s statement, the commission has concerns and must employ Section 21(7) to address them.

“The effect of Section 21(7) is to expand the mandate of the respondent under section 20 of the electoral act that is the mandate to keep and maintain voters roll, to include a mandate to ensure that those rolls that are kept and maintained in electronic form are I a form that does not permit alteration of any form of tampering and to formulate conditions that prevent the misuse of the voters roll. These are all legitimate and legislated obligations of the respondent,” said ZEC.

To demonstrate its concerns, ZEC cites breaches by an online team of data analysts known as Team Pachedu, which exposed a number of anomalies in the voters’ roll, warning that they could lead to another disputed election in 2023.

ZEC also cites the Cyber and Data Protection Act (Chapter 12:07) in supporting its decision not to release the voters roll, claiming provisions of Sections 13 and 18 of same act impose obligations upon the commission, “as a repository of millions of Zimbabweans personal data and information, to ensure that the data is protected from negligent or unauthorised destruction, negligent loss unauthorised alteration or access and any other unauthorised processing of the data.”

However regional framework on elections and data protection, for instance the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights guidelines on access to information and elections in Africa says, “the voters’ roll must be provided with the necessary details, such as full name, identity number, photograph (where it exists), gender and age of each voter and any subsequent amendments to this information.

Last year in November, ZEC charged US$187 000 for a hard copy of the voters’ roll after the Election Resource Centre (ERC), an independent election watchdog, gave the commission seven-day ultimatum to release the document.-Cite.org.zw

IT Boss Takes Away $28mln

THE owner of a Zimbabwean company selected by FBC Holdings to renew the security licence for its emails allegedly took the advance payment of almost $28 million needed to push the transaction through the auction system and spent it.
Morden Niche Digital Consulting and its director Mark Tanyaradzwa Maraire yesterday appeared at the Harare magistrates court on allegations of defrauding FBC Holdings of $27 857 850.

Maraire and his company were not asked to plead to the charges when they appeared before magistrate Mrs Evelyn Mashavakure, who remanded them to February 16.

Maraire is the majority shareholder of Modern Niche Digital Consulting Africa Private Limited and the sole signatory to the company’s bank account, the State alleges.

On August 11 last year, FBC engaged Maraire and his company for renewal of the bank’s email security licence. The court heard FBC Holdings was satisfied that Maraire’s company was registered as partners of Proof Point, the British company that provides the licence. The deal was done well in time as the FBC lience was due to expire in September last year.

Maraire and his company allegedly quoted $27 857 850 but needed prepayment. On October 14 FBC Holdings transferred $27 857 850 into Morden’s FBC Bank account for an application to the Reserve Bank auctions and pay for Proof Point security system services to be made. The auction system requires applicants to have the local currency in their bank account, and to supply the invoice so that the foreign currency is transferred to the foreign payee.

But when the money flowed into the Morden account, Maraire did not apply for foreign currency at RBZ as expected, but instead allegedly converted all the money to his own use. -stat media

Govt Collapses 291 NGOs

Stat media- Most of the 291 private voluntary organisations recently deregistered by the Registrar of Private Voluntary Organisations had not bothered to submit their annual returns as required by the Private Voluntary Organisations Act, Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Minister Professor Paul Mavima has said.
These returns and, for those raising money from donors for their work, audited financial statements are required so that everything is above board, genuine PVOs are able to continue doing their needed and valuable work, and vulnerable communities are not manipulated by self-seekers after donor funds.

Prof Mavima said the PVOs were deregistered for varying reasons, chief among them being departing from the mandate on which they were registered, failure to submit audited financials as per the dictates of the law and annual reports of their work.

“The reasons for deregistration vary from one organisation to another, but basically most of them failed to submit the needed annual returns as mandated by the Act,” said Prof Mavima.

“Typically, you will find that on rare occasions there are issues of national security, but those are very rare.

“The main problem was people biting off more than they could chew.

“People just register but they do not deliver on their mandate, and also some cannot keep up with the requirements for reporting, and therefore they end up being deregistered.”

“For example, they say they want to provide services to vulnerable people, maybe children, maybe elderly people. They bring brilliant ideas, but on implementation they find that they cannot get the resources that are needed and they cannot keep with the requirements.

“That is to say bring the report on an annual basis, bring audited financial statements. As a result they fail to comply, let alone to deliver on the mandate so they end up being deregistered because they have not fulfilled the requirements for registration,” said Professor Mavima.

In an earlier statement, the registrar of the PVOs announced the cancellation of the certificates of the delisted organisations for not complying with what the Act required. The reports are not onerous, but include the need to list all executive or committee members and detail any financial transactions. Some organisations quietly collapse during the year and the degregistration simply removes these from the lists.

“The Registrar of Private Voluntary Organisations in conjunction with the Private Voluntary Organisation Board has noted with concern that a number of registered private voluntary organisations are not complying with the prescribed expectations of their operations, as outlined in terms of the Private Voluntary Organisation Act (Chapter 17:05),” said the statement.

“Accordingly, the Registrar of Private Voluntary Organisations and the Private Voluntary Organisation Board have therefore deregistered 291 organisations that were found to be non-compliant with the provisions of the Private Voluntary
Organisation Act.”

The organisations were asked to go to the office of the Registrar of Private Voluntary Organisations and surrender their certificates.

The number who failed to follow the basic requirements of the Act are a small percentage of those who are registered, most of which routinely year after year send in the annual returns, and when those who run them decide there is no longer a useful purpose for the organisation they wind it up properly, close the bank accounts and tell the registrar what they have done. -state media

Cleric Slams Mnangagwa Regime

Tinashe Sambiri|Fearless and tough-talking preacher, Bishop Ancelimo Magaya, has implored the church to denounce Zanu PF barbarism.

In a strong statement at the weekend, Bishop Magaya challenged the church to remain firm and resolute in speaking out the truth to power.

Read the statement below…

The church’s recent efforts commendable.

We commend and applaud the church’s recent pastoral visit to the Murewa politically motivated victims of violence and their subsequent clear statement calling for peace and restoration of people’s freedoms.

The story of a Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37) does not only ridicule a religion that does not take cognizance of the full worthy of the dignity of humanity as depicted by the Priest and Levite who “passed by on the other side”, but clearly models how the church should lead in good neighborliness.

At a time that many “church leaders” have opted to sing a song of a parot as written by Kenyan writer Ngugi Wathiongo, and sadly doing so for corruptible gold and silver, the true church should rise and be true to their calling. The church is exhorted to do more than statements. Let us overcome fear and be ready to be counted among the ancient prophets and apostles. It is ironic that many that call themselves apostles and prophets today do not have an aota of similarity with the prophets and apostles who have gone before us. If the church rises and be true to her calling, serving God and “holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience “ (1Tim 3:9), Zimbabwe will be transitioned into an era of socio-economic,justice bliss:a foretaste of what the new world under the rulership of Christ will be.

A warning to those who have opted to fear and serve the interests of the evil doers -strengthening their hands(Jer 23:14), God will expose you soon unless you repent from your blaspheming spree and be true to your calling. God save Zimbabwe.

SA-Based Zim Couple Dies Soon After Wedding

By-A South African-based Zimbabwean couple perished in a car crash in South Africa just 11 days after tying the knot back home.

Shadreck Masuku (40) and Thabitha Mbambo (26) exchanged their wedding vows on 27 December 2022 in Bulawayo and died in a car accident in South Africa on 7 January 2023.
The couple, alongside Thabitha’s sister, Nkosinothando Sibanda (42), died on the spot following a car accident at Kranskop, Limpopo Province.
An unknown friend of the couple who had asked for a lift also died in the accident.
The couple’s one-year-11-month-old daughter was critically injured and left fighting for her life at a South African hospital.
Former ZBC presenter Ezra “Tshisa” Sibanda speared efforts to raise funds to bring Nkosinothando’s body back home as she had no funeral policy.
Three hearses led hundreds of people to the Umvutsha Cemetery in Bulawayo, where the trio was laid to rest.
Sithabile Tshabangu, a representative of the Mbambo family, said it was a tragedy to lose the two siblings at once. She said:
The two girls are my sister’s daughters. They were, however, brought up by their grandmother, who is my mother. We never thought we would lose them like this and at once.
The couple had just gotten married and was preparing for their traditional wedding which was supposed to take place in April.
We are deeply wounded as a family to have buried them today.
A resident from Entumbane only identified as MaNdlovu said news of the two sisters’ death came as a shock. She said:
The two girls were inseparable. Even when they were growing up, we would see them together everywhere.
It is sad they had to end up dying together. We also greatly lost as a community because they were our children.

Police Deny Bashing CCC Lawyer

By-The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) said they did not beat up a human rights lawyer, Kudzayi Kadzere, attending to some members of the opposition CCC who were arrested and detained at Budiriro 2 Police Station on Saturday, 14 January 2023.

In a statement, ZRP national spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said Kadzere jumped off a moving police vehicle and sustained injuries. Reads the statement:

CLARITY BY THE ZIMBABWE REPUBLIC POLICE ON ALLEGATIONS OF ASSAULT ON LAWYER, KUDZAYI KADZERE

The Zimbabwe Republic Police wishes to set the record straight and clarify the exact position with regards to allegations of assault on lawyer, Kudzayi Kadzere by police officers.

It is a fact that the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC)’s Costa Machingauta convened an unsanctioned gathering at house number 9293 Mvumba Crescent, Budiriro 5A, Harare.

The local Zimbabwe Republic Police station received information and reacted to the scene.

Police Officers observed that nearly 500 supporters had gathered for the meeting clad in their party regalia.

The supporters had blocked Mvumba Crescent, Dehwe Road, Magodo Road and Budiriro OK Rank.

This affected the movement of motorists and other members of the public who wanted to pass through.

The police officers engaged Costa Machingauta to disperse the supporters.

However, there was open resistance, with supporters chanting obscene and derogatory songs to the police officers.

In the process, the CCC youths went on to damage the doors of a certain house as they resisted arrest and allegedly stole a cellphone.

Twenty-four supporters were arrested. Costa Machingauta escaped arrest and later on handed himself to the police on 18th January 2023.

Suddenly Kudzayi Kadzere appeared on the scene in a private vehicle and clashed with the Police Reaction Group members who were taking the suspects to Budiriro Police Station.

Kudzayi Kadzere was then arrested for contravening section 46 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, Chapter 9:23. He was then put in the police truck.

In a bid to resist arrest, Kudzayi Kadzere jumped off the police truck. He sustained an injury on the right hand.

Police officers rearrested Kudzayi Kadzere and took him to Budiriro Police Station.

On arrival at the police station Kudzayi Kadzere openly declined to lodge a report against police officers.

He insisted that he was not assaulted by the police officers during the misunderstanding. Kadzere was then released to seek medical attention.

On the 15th of January 2023, Kudzayi Kadzere came back to Budiriro Police Station and had his warned and cautioned statement recorded.

On 17th January 2023, Kudzayi Kadzere changed his mind. He made a report of assault and theft at Budiriro Police Station.

This is despite the fact that he had initially declined to make a police report on the 14th of January 2023. The case is now under investigation.

It is clear that the information given to CCC members and later posted on social media platforms is tailor-made to suit a certain agenda whilst ignoring the real facts on the ground.

Kudzayi Kadzere knows the truth about what actually transpired between him and the police officers.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police has engaged Kudzayi Kadzere from 14th January 2023 up to the time he decided to change his mind.

The public should take note that, what Kudzayi Kadzere said to the police and the information which he is allegedly giving to the media, his peers and CCC leadership are not consistent.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police reaffirms its readiness to interact and engage members of the legal fraternity in an open and transparent manner without facts being twisted to suit various agendas.

Zimbabweans Remember Tuku

By-The music fraternity today celebrates the legacy of the late music superstar Oliver Mtukudzi four years after his death.

Tuku, as the late icon was affectionately known internationally, died of diabetes at Avenues Clinic on 23 January 2019 aged 66.

One of the most celebrated Zimbabwean musicians ever, Mtukudzi’s glittering career spanned nearly four decades with 67 albums under his belt.

His daughter Selma took to microblogging site Twitter to remember her father. She said:

“4 years since you left dad, we miss you dearly.”

Gospel musician Mathias Mhere wrote on Facebook:

“Four years ago on this day, we lost a legend. Dr Oliver Mtukudzi, continue to rest in peace baba vedu, our hero. Ndakaita rombo rakanaka ndikaimbawo song navo.

Veteran broadcaster Ezra Sibanda described Tuku as a legend whose legacy goes beyond music.

He wrote on Facebook:

“It’s been 4 years since you left us Nzou. No amount of time can heal the sorrow of your passing away. It’s hard to accept the fact that you aren’t here anymore. Not a day goes by that you don’t cross my mind. You left this world for long years ago, but your memories are still fresh in our minds. The great legendary and iconic musician Oliver Mtukudzi was not only a musician but a humanitarian, a unifier and sought to strengthen his community through deeds as well as music. May you rest peacefully in heaven.

Mtukudzi was declared a national hero and was buried in his Maziwa rural home.

ZEC Drops Exposed Election Rigging Plot

By-The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has admitted that it will revise the disputed l delimitation report.

ZEC is now under pressure to revise the report, which should be ready by mid-February in line with Constitutional provisions.

Speaking at State House last week after receiving from President Emmerson Mnangagwa Parliament’s report on the preliminary delimitation report, Chigumba said:

The President called us today for him to formally hand over the report approved by Parliament, which was written by the ad-hoc committee, which was formed by Parliament.

We have received the report and we have assured him that we will have a look at all of the recommendations and concerns which were raised by Parliament.

In terms of the way forward, we are still to receive corrections from the President himself which we anticipate he will do in the course of next week, and thereafter, we will gather as a commission and look at all of the recommendations holistically and look at those we can accede to and those we cannot accede to and we will compile our report for His Excellency where we will state our reasons for acceding to certain recommendations and perhaps not acceding to some.

The Parliamentary ad-hoc committee made several recommendations that it wants ZEC to address. Some of the recommendations are:

  • ZEC should take into account the entire population as shown in the census, not just the adult population because wards serve other purposes apart from elections.
  • ZEC should revisit boundaries where it did not take into account community interests between voters.
  • ZEC should ensure that there is an equal number of voters in constituencies and wards, with variations limited to 20% as required by section 161 of the Constitution.
  • ZEC should apply consistent principles when transferring voters from constituencies and wards with large numbers of voters to those with fewer.

The gaffer spent the last two years with Betis when the organisation started operations in the country. He was the head coach of Harare center.

Chelsea To Offload Ziyech

Chelsea winger Hakim Ziyech is reportedly pushing for his exit at Chelsea before the transfer window closes next week.

The Moroccan international has fallen out of favour at Stamford Bridge after struggling to find consistent form since his arrival from Ajax in 2029. He has had an underwhelming 2022-23 campaign thus far, managing just one assist in 14 appearances in all competitions.

According to Spanish outlet Sport, the Blues are ready to to letting Ziyech leave and have offered him to Barcelona as part of their attempts to sign Kessie this month.

Reports in Italy have also linked the star with AS Roma, as he is now considered the ideal replacement for Nicolo Zaniolo.

The Serie A side is said to be in contact with Ziyech’s agent

However, that move is strictly dependent on Zaniolo’s departure.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

What Is Cervical Cancer?

Key facts

Cervical cancer is the fourth most common cancer among women globally, with an estimated 604 000 new cases and 342 000 deaths in 2020. About 90% of the new cases and deaths worldwide in 2020 occurred in low- and middle-income countries (1).

Two human papillomavirus (HPV) types (16 and 18) are responsible for nearly 50% of high grade cervical pre-cancers
HPV is mainly transmitted through sexual contact and most people are infected with HPV shortly after the onset of sexual activity. More than 90% of them clear the infection eventually.

Women living with HIV are 6 times more likely to develop cervical cancer compared to women without HIV.

Vaccination against HPV and screening and treatment of pre-cancer lesions is a cost-effective way to prevent cervical cancer.
Cervical cancer can be cured if diagnosed at an early stage and treated promptly.

Comprehensive cervical cancer control includes primary prevention (vaccination against HPV), secondary prevention (screening and treatment of pre-cancerous lesions), tertiary prevention (diagnosis and treatment of invasive cervical cancer) and palliative care.

Overview
Worldwide, cervical cancer is the fourth most frequent cancer in women with an estimated 604 000 new cases in 2020. Of the estimated 342 000 deaths from cervical cancer in 2020, about 90% of these occur in low- and middle-income countries. Women living with HIV are 6 times more likely to develop cervical cancer compared to women without HIV, and an estimated 5% of all cervical cancer cases are attributable to HIV (2). Moreover, in all world regions the contribution of HIV to cervical cancer falls disproportionately on younger women.

In high-income countries, programmes are in place which enable girls to be vaccinated against HPV and women to get screened regularly and treated adequately. Screening allows pre-cancerous lesions to be identified at stages when they can easily be treated.

In low-and middle-income countries, there is limited access to these preventative measures and cervical cancer is often not identified until it has further advanced and symptoms develop. In addition, access to treatment of cancerous lesions (for example, cancer surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy) may be limited, resulting in a higher rate of death from cervical cancer in these countries.

The high mortality rate from cervical cancer globally (age standardized rate among women: 13.3/100 000 in 2020) could be reduced by effective interventions at different stages of life.

HPV and cervical cancer
A large majority of cervical cancer (more than 95%) is due to the human papillomavirus (HPV).

HPV is the most common viral infection of the reproductive tract. Most sexually active women and men will be infected at some point in their lives, and some may be repeatedly infected. More than 90% of the infected populations eventually clear the infection.

Cervical cancer is by far the most common HPV-related disease. Nearly all cases of cervical cancer can be attributed to HPV infection.

Although most HPV infections clear up on their own and most pre-cancerous lesions resolve spontaneously, there is a risk for all women that HPV infection may become chronic and pre-cancerous lesions progress to invasive cervical cancer.

It takes 15 to 20 years for cervical cancer to develop in women with normal immune systems. It can take only 5 to 10 years in women with weakened immune systems, such as those with untreated HIV infection.

Cervical cancer control: a comprehensive approach
The Global strategy towards eliminating cervical cancer as a public health problem, adopted by the World Health Assembly in 2020, recommends a comprehensive approach to cervical cancer prevention and control. The recommended actions include interventions across the life course.

Cleric Challenges Church Leaders To Denounce Zanu PF Barbarism

Gvt Ties With China

By A Correspondent- The Government looks forward to continuing its close ties with China to further consolidate the bilateral cooperation between the two nations, Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Monica Mutsvangwa, has said.

In a speech at the Chinese Lunar New Year celebrations, she said the new season offers an opportunity for the nations to solidify the strong bond of friendship and solidarity that exists between the two countries and people.

“Allow me to take this opportunity to profoundly express my appreciation of the excellent bilateral relations that exist between Zimbabwe and the People’s Republic of China.

“As you may be aware, Zimbabwe-China relations were elevated from ‘all weather friend’ to “Comprehensive Strategic Partnership”, to appropriately reflect the depth of our relations which date from the period of our liberation struggle.

“Over the past few years, we have witnessed increased investments in Zimbabwe by the Chinese Government and Chinese companies,” she said.

Minister Mutsvagwa said the Chinese Government and business community have transferred technical expertise and created employment opportunities for tens of thousands of Zimbabweans.

“The investments have helped to increase the country’s Gross Domestic Product and volume of exports. I cannot over-emphasize the contribution that Chinese companies have made towards boosting production in the economy and in the same vein transforming the livelihoods of Zimbabweans.

“The investments have been buttressed by the successful completion of several projects in a number of fields, including mining, agriculture, infrastructure development, energy and the environment.

China has also assisted Zimbabwe with human resource development through provision of scholarships for Zimbabwean students to study in China.

“This has seen our nationals being trained in companies such as the Chinese tile factory in Norton and the Onsen Iron and Steel Company in Manhize,” she said.

President Chamisa Mourns Prominent Lawyer

Tinashe Sambiri|CCC leader President Nelson Chamisa has paid tribute to prominent Eswatini lawyer Thulani Maseko.

Maseko, a leading Swaziland human rights lawyer and pro democracy activist, was shot dead at his house. He died on the spot.

“My sincere condolences to Eswatini and #Thulani Maseko family.

Africa cant be a breeding ground for murders &violence.

Cowards & Rogues can’t stand good men. RIP Cde,” said President Chamisa.

Mliswa Exposes Zanu PF Projects Ahead Of Elections

By-Norton MP Temba Mliswa (Independent), has exposed Zanu PF projects which emerge a few days before elections.
.
Mliswa claimed that Zimbabwe’s political arena “has become a field of dull people” who really do not care about the welfare of the people.
The former Zanu PF Mashonaland West chairman identified Democratic Union of Zimbabwe (DUZ) leader, Robert Chapman and the former leader of the Alliance for People’s Agenda (APA) Nkosana Moyo as some of the politicians who emerged out of nowhere with nothing to offer.

Below is Mliswa’s full thread on Twitter:
It’s unfortunate for us as a country when clowns continuously emerge from bushes on the eve of elections and start showering the public with effervescent nonsense about what they will do when they win.
Do these people understand that politics is about people’s lives?
That’s why our politics, in Parliament and Councils, has become a field of dull people some of whom don’t even know what is going on.
It’s all a game to them they have no serious regard for the interests of the people. But as happens in anything, a clown will also get followers.
Politics is about power& wealth distribution. If we are a people who continuously entertain adventurists, flexing their middle-age fantasies, where are we going?
Serious politicians should be looking to maximize where there is strength to provide a formidable alternative.
Somebody like @DrivenChapman has never been a Councilor or MP, jets in from the blue, has no party & no structure, and starts promising to rule the country.
How do we entertain such characters seriously if serious about our country? It’s all a pastime to him& he knows it himself!
Dr Nkosana Moyo had a mile better political portfolio and emerged just like this. How did he perform?
It shows the futility of such middle-aged expeditions. It’s a waste of time, people’s hopes, and an obscene ridicule of the efforts of all those in the trenches for long.
Politics isn’t a circus. Of course, you can be a clown & have an audience of your own happy clappers.
It’s like POLAD. Filled with Chapmans. What has it achieved? Zilch. It’s a waste of taxpayers’ money.
They have abused their democratic right to be a burden on the whole nation.

Robert Chapman Is A Clown, Says Mliswa

By A Correspondent| Norton legislator Temba Mliswa has ripped into new kid on the bloc Robert Chapman who fronts the Democratic Union of Zimbabwe (DUZ) saying he is a clown just emerging from the bush without an understanding of politics.

In a Twitter thread, Mliswa says Zimbabwean politics is now filled with dull people who take it as a game yet is about people’s lives.

“It’s unfortunate for us as a country when clowns continuously emerge from bushes on the eve of elections and start showering the public with effervescent nonsense of what they will do when they win. Do these people understand that politics is about people’s lives?

“That’s why our politics, in Parliament and Councils, has become a field of dull people some of whom don’t even know what is going on. It’s all a game to them they have no serious regard for the interests of the people. But as happens in anything, a clown will also get followers.

“Politics is about power& wealth distribution. If we are a people who continuously entertain adventurists, flexing their middle age fantasies, where are we going? Serious politicians should be looking to maximize where there is strength to provide a formidable alternative,” said Mliswa.

He urged Zimbabweans not to entertain Chapman saying he has never held a public office but promises to rule the country.

“Somebody like @DrivenChapman has never been a Councilor or MP, jets in from the blue, no party& no structure, and starts promising to rule the country. How do we entertain such characters seriously if serious about our country? It’s all a pastime to him& he knows it himself,” added Mliswa.

“Dr Nkosana Moyo had a mile better political portfolio and emerged just like this. How did he perform? It shows the futility of such middle age expeditions. It’s a waste of time, people’s hopes and an obscene ridicule to the efforts of all those in the trenches for long.

South African Mercenaries Accused Of Killing Eswatini Rights Lawyer

Former South African legislator Phumzile Van Damme has revealed that she has a detailed list of South African mercenaries who were allegedly hired by Eswatini leader King Mswati to assassinate human rights lawyer Thulani Maseko.

Maseko, a human rights lawyer, was shot dead on Sunday night at his home in Luyengo, Eswatini.

Van Damme has since the let the cat out of the bag saying she has classified information on the people behind Maseko’s murder.

He was also a columnist who had a pending court battle with King Mswati III over the move to rename the country Eswatini by decree.

The human rights lawyer also chaired the Multi-Stakeholders Forum (MSF), a collaboration of political parties and civil society groups working to amplify calls for democratic reforms.

‘Captured ZEC Is An Appendage Of Zanu PF’

Civil society organisations have accused President Emmerson Mnangagwa of refusing to implement electoral reforms in order to gain an unfair advantage in this year’s hamornised elections.

The claims were made at a meeting hosted by the Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition (CiZC) last week to discuss the delimitation process and the environment ahead of the polls.

Mnangagwa last week handed over Parliament’s report on the delimitation preliminary report by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec), which has raised controversy because of alleged shoddy work.

“Zec remains captured and continues to work as an appendage of Zanu-PF and this points to discredited elections in 2023,” the groups said in a communiqué.

“In some areas of the country there has been a deliberate attempt to frustrate potential voters and a huge number of citizens remain disenfranchised.

“Electoral reforms remain a pipe dream in Zimbabwe with the country’s elections failing to meet guidelines of the African Charter on Elections, Democracy and Governance (ACDEG).

“The CSOs indaba noted that issues relating to the technical aspects and the general political environment point to yet another flawed election that will certainly fail the credibility test and thus result in yet another legitimacy crisis in Zimbabwe.

They added: “Zimbabwe is yet to implement recommendations from previous electoral observer missions including recommendations of the Motlanthe Commission of inquiry relating to the conduct of credible elections.”

The CSOs said Zec’s preliminary delimitation report pointed to a “flawed” process that may lead to unsatisfying election results. They also accused Zec of attempting to rig elections in favour of the ruling Zanu-PF party.

“Issues around access to the voters’ roll point to a deliberate attempt to rig the 2023 elections and expose the collusion between Zec and Zanu-PF. There is a deliberate attempt by the state to entrench authoritarianism and move towards a one-party state,” the organisations added.

“In light of the above-mentioned challenges, the Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition shall continue with mobilisation efforts at the grassroots level to empower citizens to demand free, fair and credible polls. This includes ensuring citizens reject a flawed process with pre-determined outcomes.

“The Coalition shall intensify advocacy campaigns at regional and international levels and this also includes pushing for long-term observer missions ahead of the 2023 elections.”

Mnangagwa’s Poor Human Rights Record Riles International Rights Group

Southern African leaders have come under sharp criticism in the Human Rights Watch (HRW) 2023 report, with claims that they have failed to address the abuse of civilians.

The report, which was released on Thursday, cited the refusal of Eswatini’s King Mswati III to engage in dialogue, South Africa’s failure to protect migrants, Mozambique’s ongoing conflict with insurgents in Cabo Delgado, and Zimbabwe’s lack of meaningful steps to uphold rights.

Last year, Eswatini continued to experience pockets of resistance from pro-democracy activists calling for the king’s removal from southern Africa’s last absolute monarchy.

In 2021, the king was brought to the negotiation table by President Cyril Ramaphosa to agree on a national dialogue.

At the time, Ramaphosa was chairperson of the Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation of the Southern African Development Community (SADC).

In principle, the king agreed. But along the way, he found a way to remove Eswatini from SADC’s agenda.

“In April (2022), the king removed Eswatini from the agenda of the SADC Organ’s Troika meeting where the national dialogue was supposed to be discussed. The July SADC extraordinary summit was postponed without further notice due to the unavailability of Eswatini, which was on the agenda,” HRW said.

The non-governmental organisation cited this as the highlight of Eswatini’s failure to address the ongoing human rights crisis.

Eswatini will hold Tinkhundla elections this year, an electoral system that serves as a form of governance on the basis of traditional administrative subdivisions.

But the Mass Democratic Movement (MDM), under the Swaziland Multi-Stakeholder Forum, adopted the eBundu Declaration at a two-day gathering in Mpumalanga, South Africa in December last year to outright reject and boycott the elections.

Mwonzora Says He Will Beat Chamisa And Mnangagwa In Presidential Elections Race

MDC-T president Douglas Mwonzora says he will win the 2023 Presidential election with a 66 percent winning margin.

Speaking on Zimpapers Television Network (ZTN) programme, The Chase, on Thursday, Mwonzora also claimed that his party has a membership of over 500 000. He said:

I am going to contest for the presidency of Zimbabwe, come election time. I am contesting not with the intention to accompany others but with the intention to win.

We are going to garner 66 percent of the Presidential vote, record it, we are going to garner 66 percent.

Mwonzora said the win percentage margin is based on research his team did. He said:

I asked them to do research on the political strategy and should it work, and that is a critical assumption as well, it should generate such a vote.

Since Mwonzora took over the MDC-T presidency in 2020, the party has failed to win a single local government or a parliamentary seat in by-elections held since March 2022.

In the 2018 presidential election, MDC-T candidate Thokozani Khuphe managed just 45 573 votes equivalent to 0.95 percent.

MDC Alliance candidate Nelson Chamisa garnered 44.93 percent of the votes, while ZANU PF candidate President Mnangagwa polled 2 460 463 translating to 51.48 percent of the total votes cast.

Mwonzora Dreams Of Occupying State House

By-Opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC-T) leader, Senator Douglas Mwonzora, has declared himself the unanimous winner of the yet-to-be-held 2023 Presidential election, claiming he will get the keys to the State House with a 66 percent winning margin.
Speaking on Zimpapers Television Network (ZTN) program, The Chase, on Thursday, Sen Mwonzora also claimed his party has a membership of over 500 000.
“I am going to contest for the presidency of Zimbabwe, come election time. I am contesting not with an intention to accompany others but with an intention to win,” he said.
“We are going to garner 66 percent of the Presidential vote, record it, we are going to garner 66 percent.”
Sen Mwonzora said the percentage margin is based on a number of postulations that his research team did.
“I asked them to do research on the political strategy and should it work, and that is a critical assumption as well, it should generate such a vote,” said Mwonzora whose party has since 2022 recalled 165 councilors and 32 legislators.
He said while it was hard to say with certainty how many members his party has, when he was secretary general of the party in 2020, the figure was at 560 000.
“I think we are plus or minus that figure,” said Sen Mwonzora.
In the 2018 elections, MDC-T, then led by Dr Thokozani Khuphe managed just 45 573 votes equivalent to 0,95 percent while the ruling party candidate, President Mnangagwa garnered 2 460 463 translating to 51,48 percent of the total votes cast.
Mr Nelson Chamisa’s Movement for Democratic Change Alliance (MDC-A) accounted for 44,93 percent of the votes.

Gold Dealer Linked To Zanu PF Forced To Close ‘Death Trap’ Mine In Penhalonga

Zanu PF benefactor and prominent gold dealer Pedzisai Scott Sakupwanya’s gold operations at Redwing Mine in Penhalonga, Manicaland province, have been closed by the Environmental Management Agency (Ema) following reports of numerous fatal accidents involving artisanal miners.

Sakupwanya through his company Better Brands Mining has been defying Ema’s directive to stop operations until civic groups threatened to picket at the mine.

In a joint statement yesterday, the Centre for Research and Development (CRD), Ziva Community Empowerment Trust, and Penhalonga Youth Development Ratepayers Trust claimed  that 100 artisanal have died at Sakupwanya’s mine since 2020.

Sakupwanya is a key Zanu PF member and is expected to finance the ruling party’s 2023 election campaign.

He has also been previously pictured with President Emmerson Mnangagwa at State House.

Sakupwanya has become the biggest gold dealer in the country amid reports that he was using his close links with the First Family.

He is also the ruling party’s councillor for Mabvuku-Tafara in Harare.

NewsDay is in possession of a letter written by Better Brands dated January 20, 2023, confirming the company’s decision to halt operations in compliance with Ema’s directives.

“Better Brands hereby advises its valued stakeholders that all surface mining operations shall be suspended with immediate effect due to the concerns about the increased number of fatalities, and environmental degradation.

“Better Brands Mining shall take this opportunity to restructure and rehabilitate the mining field in preparation for the resumption of surface and underground mining,” the letter read.

But CRD director James Mupfumi said the temporary stoppage was meant to hoodwink the world into believing that Sakupwanya respects the rule of law.

“It is a temporary ban meant to fool the country from demanding accountability. It has happened twice with lies on promises to return to safe mining practices. We are approaching the government and Parliament to summon Better Brands.

“If the government fails to heed our call, we are approaching the United Nations (UN) human rights to express our concern on government’s failure to protect citizens from militia mining that is taking place at Redwing Mine. Zimbabwe is a signatory to the UN on the sanctity of human life and government protection,” Mupfumi said.

George Charamba Continues To Stalk Chamisa

By A Correspondent| President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s trusted lieutenant George Charamba continues to stalk opposition Citizens Coalition for Change leader Nelson Chamisa while abandoning his duty to speak on behalf of his boss.

In one of his social media posts, Chamisa promised a ‘new great Zimbabwe’ while showing a picture of a road interchange.

But Charamba could not let it go without commenting, accusing while opposition led councils of failing to provide basic services in urban areas.

This is despite the fact that Local Government minister July Moyo has literally rejected every developmental project proposed by opposition led municipalities while imposing dubious investors like Dellish Nguwaya on the cash-strapped city.

Chamisa wrote; “Imagining a different Zimbabwe. In a New Great Zimbabwe, its possible. It’s doable.”

Charamba described Chamisa’s dream as un-achievable.

“Selling an illusion; the bane of an incompetent opposition and unthinking opposition supporters who forget Zimbabwe has no seafront; has an incompetent opposition which has ruralised our cities and towns,” said Charamba.

Madzibaba Foretold His Death

By A Correspondent- The leader of an apostolic sect in Hwedza who was allegedly killed by former police detective Jaison Muvevi on 13 January this year had reportedly foretold his death.

Chrispen Kanerusine (62), who was popularly known as Madzibaba Sirage from the Johane Masowe Chishanu Nguwo Chena was shot dead at point-blank range while ministering to his congregants at his shrine.

A fellow apostolic sect leader Edison Moyo, also known as Madzibaba Eddie, told The Standard that Kanerusine had prophesied his death. He said:

A week before, he prophetically told congregants that he saw a flag at half-mast near the shrine.

He said efforts to raise the flag from half-mast were in vain.

Moyo said on the fateful day, some men from a different apostolic sect shrine made a prophecy about the bloody events at Kanerusine’s shrine.

They allegedly warned the sect’s members to stop attending meetings involving Kanerusine and said blood was going to be shed at the shrine.

The men are said to have performed some divination rituals including going around the shrine three times. Said Moyo:

After that, Madzibaba Sirage took over and that is when Muvevi came and shot him dead.

If the three men had travelled earlier the death could have been avoided, and we could have prayed fervently but like what he had told the people, the flag refused to be raised higher.

Those who frequented Madzibaba Sirage’s shrine said he had a gift for foretelling the future as well as assisting those with afflictions spiritually.

They said besides exercising his spiritual gifts, Madzibaba Sirage would move around villages and business centres selling different wares among them leather belts.

He was buried on 18 January 2023 at his homestead in the Negombwe area in Mukamba village.

Hopewell Chin’ono Embarrasses Mnangagwa, Sources 50 Dialysis Machines From UK

By- Journalist Hopewell Chin’ono, has secured 50 dialysis machines for Zimbabwe from one of his contacts based in the United Kingdom.

Dialysis machines are artificial kidneys that perform most, but not all, kidney functions for patients with permanent or temporary renal failure.

According to an online source, the machines use hemodialysis to cleanse the blood and balance its constituents.

Posting on Twitter this Sunday, Chin’ono said he received a call from a Zimbabwean lady working for the British public health system, the National Health Service (NHS), saying she wants to give 50 dialysis machines to Zimbabwe. Said Chin’ono:

I got a phone call from a Zimbabwean lady working for the British @NHSEngland in Birmingham managing dialysis machines.

She has 50 machines that she wants to give to Zimbabwe.

Harare Council and other councils run by the opposition can get these machines to save our people.

Harare City Council has 12 Polyclinics that can be turned into part dialysis centers.

The council then only buys dialysis machine consumables, and Zimbabweans living with kidney disease can live normal lives again.

This requires competent councillors and mayors in cities.

Chin’ono, a critic of the government, has over the past few years been exposing the rot in the country’s public health delivery system.

In 2020, he was arrested after he exposed the looting of public funds in the procurement of COVID-19 test kits and other medical sundries.

Mwonzora Says Will Beat Chamisa In 2023 Polls

By- MDC-T president Douglas Mwonzora says he will beat all the 2023 Presidential candidates and grabs the top post with a 66 per cent winning margin.

Speaking on Zimpapers Television Network (ZTN) programme, The Chase, on Thursday, Mwonzora also claimed that his party has a membership of over 500 000. He said:

I am going to contest for the presidency of Zimbabwe come election time. I am contesting not with the intention of accompanying others but with the intention to win.

Nakamba Remains In Wilderness

Aston Villa coach Unai Emery has snubbed Marvelous Nakamba in his matchday squad for the Premier League game against Southampton this evening.

Nakamba, who is yet to play this season, will watch the encounter from the stands.

The snub comes just a day after Emery revealed that he told the midfielder to look for a new club in this transfer window.

“In other positions as well we are speaking about how we can improve, some players like (Marvelous) Nakamba, I told him to leave,” the gaffer said in his pre-match press conference.

Elsewhere in the EPL, it’s a different story for Jordan Zemura, who will bag his twelfth EPL start for Bournemouth this season.

The Warriors international has been named in the Cherries’ starting XI versus Nottingham Forest, marking his return to the team after sitting out in the last two league games.

Kick-off for both games is at 5 pm CAT and live action will be available to watch on DStv’s SuperSport TV.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Muvhevhi Terror: Fresh Details Emerge

Jaison Muvhevhi
FORMER police detective, Jaison Muvevi — who is accused of killing three people in Hwedza last week and trying to kill two others — is facing a fourth murder charge after he allegedly shot and killed another person at a Harare car sales last November.

Detectives probing last week’s shootings established that Muvevi (42) could have been behind the November 19, 2022 killing of Nyarai Round in Eastlea, Harare, as the suspect apparently used the same weapon in the commission of the Hwedza offences.

Muvevi yesterday appeared in court facing four counts of murder and two of attempted murder after he also shot and injured a police officer in Hwedza before shooting at another man in Mutare whom he narrowly missed.

He was not asked to plead to the charges when he appeared before Harare magistrate Mrs Evelyn Mashavirakure, who remanded him in custody to February 6.

Muvevi was advised to approach the High Court for bail application.

According to the State, Muvevi killed Round (33) of Domboshava, Chrispen Kanerusine (48) of Wedza, the officer-in-charge of Hwedza Police Camp Inspector Maxwell Hove (43) and 27-year-old Munashe Majani, who was a barman at Ruzema Bottlestore, Mukamba Business Centre, Wedza.

Muvevi allegedly attempted to kill Tendai Mugova, a police officer at Wedza Camp and Raphael Nyahwema at Mutare Boys High School where he was seeking food as he sought to escape to Mozambique.

It is the State’s case that on November 19 last year at around 9:30pm, Nyasha Eusen was in the company of Round at Clan Court in Eastlea, Harare.

It is reported Muvevi approached the pair and withdrew his pistol and shot Round once on the head for no apparent reason.

Nyasha Eusen tried to run away, but was caught before being forced into a Toyota Allion sedan.

Muvevi then drove to Huruyadzo Shopping Centre in St Mary’s, Chitungwiza, with two other men.

The court heard that Eusen managed to escape.

On January 13 this year, at around midday, Kanerusine, who was the leader of Johanne Masowe eChishanu Apostolic Church, was at the church shrine with other congregants.

Muvevi arrived in the company of Shupikai Muvevi and was ushered into the shrine by senior church members, who gave him a white wrapping cloth to cover himself since his dress code was deemed inappropriate for the shrine.

Muvevi joined other congregates while Kanerusine was preaching.

After two minutes, Muvevi stood up and proceeded to his car and fetched a gun.

He allegedly hid it under the garment before he shot Kanerusine in the head, forcing other congregants to flee.

Muvevi then sped off from the scene.

The matter was reported to ZRP Wedza where the late Insp Hove was the officer-in-charge.

Hove mobilised a team of police officers and left ZRP Wedza for Negombwe Village to attend the scene.

As the police officers were driving along Wedza-Murambinda Road, they spotted Muvevi parked at the 25km peg talking to an unidentified man.

Police officers blocked his vehicle and as they were disembarking from the car, Muvevi opened fire and shot Hove thrice in the head while he was seated in the passenger seat.

He also allegedly shot Detective Constable Tendai Mugova three times on the pel_vis and abdomen, leaving him seriously injured, according to the charge sheet.

Other police officers ran away for their dear lives, leaving the two lying on the ground.

The fleeing police officers are said to have dropped an FN rifle with a magazine and 10 rounds and a CZ pistol.

Muvevi then drove to Mukamba Business Centre where he went to Ruzema Bottle Store.

He then saw Majani seated outside the bar in the company of Given Pambeni and Tinashe Musangano.

Muvevi is said to have called Majani and had a brief chat with him before shooting him.

Muvevi is said to have sped off heading towards Mutare.

On January 14, he went to Mutare Boys High School where he confronted Nyahwema and fired three shots towards him after he refused to give him food. He missed him.

Muvevi then skipped the border into Mozambique where he was arrested on January 15 before being sent back to the country.

Man Invents Application That Tracks A Cheating Partner

A world without the excruciating heartache and vital-organ-shattering devastation of discovering that your partner whom you l0vǝd with every fibre of your being, was just whiling away time with you as they were in other relati0nships.

That world may not be so far away following the launch of the Bae Tracker App.

All in the name of the Biblical seventh commandment of God, which goes ‘Thou Shalt Not Commit Adul_tǝry’, Walter Mbano (31) from Pumula South suburb launched the app to deal with umj0l0, the pandemic that has led to an upsurge in depression and suicide cases.

Telling B-Metro about the app, Mbano said Bae Tracker helps people track cheat!ng partners before investing in a relati0nship.

“The application uses phone authentication to sign up. It then gives you an option of searching where you add your partner’s particulars that entail their full name, surname, age and date of birth. The information is stored on the application’s data base.

“If anyone searches for your registered partner on the application, it sends you a notification. It then provides a platform where you pay a fee to have a chat with that person on the app and find out how they are related to your bae,” said Mbano.

Information about the app on Google Play Store reads: “an app to find out if bae is loyal. The app helps you to track who claims to date your boyfriend or girlfriend or who has a crush on them…”

Mbano said the motivation behind designing the app was that umjolo has become a problem that needed to be addressed.

“What inspired me is that l identified umjolo as a societal problem where a number of people invest so much in a relationship only to discover that their partner is cheating.

“This app helps whenever you start a relati0nship, as you are able to search if your partner is in a relati0nship or not. It solves a lot of problems,” said Mbano.

A Bulawayo couple Munashe and Charlyn Zengeni, who are already signed up for the app said the development will ensure accountability in relati0nships.

“I think the app is quite interesting and fascinating. If people join in, it will lead to faithful relati0nships as it ensures that you give some form of accountability. We need to look at the bigger picture of this app, it’s fun and exciting and more exciting if you are faithful.

“This is going to be revolutionary to relati0nships and society as relationships will be restored and mended. We will have healthier relationships, less heartbreaks and reduction of suicide cases,” said Munashe.

Charlyn said she hoped the bae tracker will provide an option of uploading pictures soon.

“I am also hoping that in the future bae tracker is going to have more options like all the tech apps. We are going to upload pictures of our partners and get advice on relationships,” she said.

A sceptic who declined to be named said fake relati0nships were better left unexposed as bringing them to light could lead to bloodshed.

So far, the newly launched app that is rated suitable for people aged above 12 years has no reviews on play store.

CCC Youth Leader Sends Strong Warning To Emmerson Mnangagwa

Tinashe Sambiri| CCC youth taskforce spokesperson Stephen Sarkozy Chuma has openly challenged Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa to stop treating opposition members like second class citizens.

The tough-talking CCC youth leader on Thursday said Mr Mnangagwa would be removed from power.

Sarkozy declared:
“We can’t continue to live like we are second class citizens in our own country. ED is biting more than he can chew!

We only have one option- to remove him, to remove him and I repeat- to remove him.”

UK Nurse Arnold Nhema Dies

A UK nurse Arnold Nhema has died.

The 43 year old father of 3 fell ill on the 9th January, with mild respiratory symptoms. He deteriorated a few days later and then passed on in hospital without his family who live in Canada.

A reading states as follows:

Arnold Nhema

It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Arnold Nhema, a man who was incredibly kind, compassionate, gentle, and loving. Arnold was taken from this world far too young at the age of 43 and leaves behind his loving wife Vee and his beautiful children Munashe, Ryan, Tadiwa and many, many friends, co-workers, and extended family members.

At the time of his passing, Arnold had been working as a Registered Nurse in the United Kingdom while his family remained in Canada. Originally from Zimbabwe, Arnold and his wife Vee lived in the United Kingdom for many years and were trained as Registered Nurses there prior to moving to Calgary, Canada with their three children in 2018. The past 5 years have been difficult for their family as they have worked tirelessly to become licensed as RNs in Canada. Arnold worked as a long-haul truck driver to make ends meet and travelled back and forth to the UK for weeks at a time to keep his nursing hours up. Meanwhile, Vee remained in Canada navigating a difficult and frustrating process to obtain her own nursing license, which required her to relocate to Kelowna, BC where she now lives with her 3 children. Arnold was expected to return home to Canada for good on Monday, January 23, 2023, as he and his wife would finally have finished their nursing licensure in Canada and begin the next chapter in their lives. Sadly, it was not meant to be.

Arnold began to feel unwell the week of January 9th, 2023, with mild respiratory symptoms. He last spoke with his family on Friday and the following morning he was admitted to the hospital through the Emergency Department. Within 24 hours he was transferred to the ICU. He rapidly became unstable and was deemed unsuitable for transfer to the Royal London Hospital. He passed away peacefully in the ICU a day later with his wife and children mourning his tragic loss half a world away.

Given that Arnold’s untimely death crosses international borders, this has become a very challenging process for Vee, her children, and Arnold’s extended family who are spread across the world in Australia, Canada, the UK, and Zimbabwe. In addition to the personal loss, there is a significant financial loss, and we want to help Vee and her children during this difficult time. Vee continues to work towards obtaining work as an RN; however, this process has now been interrupted by Arnold’s passing as Vee focuses on funeral arrangements and her children’s needs. Their support networks remain largely based out of Calgary since they had only just moved to Kelowna in July of 2022.

Please prayerfully consider donating to this precious family in memory of a man who was loved by many and missed by all. Above all, please keep this family in your prayers and reach out to them personally if you feel prompted to as they begin to pick up the pieces of their life and move forward.

Effective Malaria Prevention Methods

Key facts

Malaria is a life-threatening disease caused by parasites that are transmitted to people through the bites of infected female Anopheles mosquitoes.

It is preventable and curable.

In 2021, there were an estimated 247 million cases of malaria worldwide.
The estimated number of malaria deaths stood at 619 000 in 2021.
The WHO African Region carries a disproportionately high share of the global malaria burden. In 2021, the region was home to 95% of malaria cases and 96% of malaria deaths. Children under 5 accounted for about 80% of all malaria deaths in the Region.
Overview

Malaria is an acute febrile illness caused by Plasmodium parasites, which are spread to people through the bites of infected female Anopheles mosquitoes. There are 5 parasite species that cause malaria in humans, and 2 of these species – P. falciparum and P. vivax – pose the greatest threat. P. falciparum is the deadliest malaria parasite and the most prevalent on the African continent. P. vivax is the dominant malaria parasite in most countries outside of sub-Saharan Africa.

The first symptoms – fever, headache and chills – usually appear 10–15 days after the infective mosquito bite and may be mild and difficult to recognize as malaria. Left untreated, P. falciparum malaria can progress to severe illness and death within a period of 24 hours.

In 2021, nearly half of the world’s population was at risk of malaria. Some population groups are at considerably higher risk of contracting malaria and developing severe disease: infants, children under 5 years of age, pregnant women and patients with HIV/AIDS, as well as people with low immunity moving to areas with intense malaria transmission such as migrant workers, mobile populations and travellers.

Disease burden
According to the latest World malaria report, there were 247 million cases of malaria in 2021 compared to 245 million cases in 2020. The estimated number of malaria deaths stood at 619 000 in 2021 compared to 625 000 in 2020.

Over the 2 peak years of the pandemic (2020–2021), COVID-related disruptions led to about 13 million more malaria cases and 63 000 more malaria deaths.

The WHO African Region continues to carry a disproportionately high share of the global malaria burden. In 2021 the Region was home to about 95% of all malaria cases and 96% of deaths. Children under 5 years of age accounted for about 80% of all malaria deaths in the Region.

Four African countries accounted for just over half of all malaria deaths worldwide: Nigeria (31.3%), the Democratic Republic of the Congo (12.6%), United Republic of Tanzania (4.1%) and Niger (3.9%).

Prevention
Over the last 2 decades, expanded access to WHO-recommended malaria prevention tools and strategies – including effective vector control and the use of preventive antimalarial drugs – has had a major impact in reducing the global burden of this disease.

Vector control
Vector control is a vital component of malaria control and elimination strategies as it is highly effective in preventing infection and reducing disease transmission. The 2 core interventions are insecticide-treated nets (ITNs) and indoor residual spraying (IRS).

Progress in global malaria control is threatened by emerging resistance to insecticides among Anopheles mosquitoes. As described in the latest World malaria report, other threats to ITNs include insufficient access, loss of nets due to the stresses of day-to-day life outpacing replacement, and changing behaviour of mosquitoes, which appear to be biting early before people go to bed and resting outdoors, thereby evading exposure to insecticides.

Preventive chemotherapies
Preventive chemotherapy is the use of medicines, either alone or in combination, to prevent malaria infections and their consequences. It requires giving a full treatment course of an antimalarial medicine to vulnerable populations (generally infants, children under 5 years of age and pregnant women) at designated time points during the period of greatest malarial risk, regardless of whether the recipients are infected with malaria.

Preventive chemotherapy includes perennial malaria chemoprevention (PMC), seasonal malaria chemoprevention (SMC), intermittent preventive treatment of malaria in pregnancy (IPTp) and school-aged children (IPTsc), post-discharge malaria chemoprevention (PDMC) and mass drug administration (MDA).

These safe and cost-effective strategies are intended to complement ongoing malaria control activities, including vector control measures, prompt diagnosis of suspected malaria, and treatment of confirmed cases with antimalarial medicines.

Vaccine
Since October 2021, WHO also recommends broad use of the RTS,S/AS01 malaria vaccine among children living in regions with moderate to high P. falciparum malaria transmission.

The vaccine has been shown to significantly reduce malaria, and deadly severe malaria, among young children.

South Africa Follows Zimbabwe, Adopts Permanent Load-Shedding

By-South Africa’s power utility, Eskom, has announced that it would permanently implement load-shedding for the next two years.

Eskom chairperson, Mpho Makwana, said power cuts between Stages 2 and 3 are planned for the next two years.

Makwana said this will create “some predictability” and allow the power utility enough room to perform maintenance and increase the Energy Availability Factor (EAF) enough to put an end to load shedding within the next two years. Said Makwana:

The global average for EAF is about 86%. We’re looking to grow from our current 58% EAF to 70% in the next two years.

The planned journey to 70% is hoped to take place on the following timeline:

  • 60% EAF — end-March 2023

The outgoing Eskom CEO, Andre de Ruyter, said the possibility of Stage 8 load shedding is receding but an “inherent risk” remains. He said:

The possibility of stage 8 load-shedding is receding, which is comforting and positive.

However, there is always an inherent risk, and for that purpose, we have to protect our diesel reserves.

Eskom Chief Operating Officer, Jan Oberholzer, said 43% of the utility’s electricity-generating units are currently offline due to breakdowns and planned maintenance. | My Broadband

Chicken Inn Loses Trademark Battle To Chicken Slice

By A Correspondent- Innscor Africa Limited has failed in its bid to interdict its competitor, Slice Distributors (Pvt) Ltd, also trading as Chicken Slice, for alleged trademark infringement in the High Court.

Chicken Inn filed an application at the High Court in 2019 seeking an interdict against Chicken Slice for using its trademark, “Luv” and its colours.

Chicken Inn argued that Chicken Slice had used “Luv” in its burger and grill logo.

The company also argued it has always used “Luv Dat Chicken” since 1987 before Chicken Slice started using “I Luv it” too on its burgers boxes.

The Innscor Africa Limited subsidiary further submitted that the resemblance of the trademark and colours confuses consumers of their products.

However, Chicken Slice rejected the accusations arguing that Chicken Inn doesn’t own exclusive rights to the tagline “luv”.

In her ruling, Justice Sylvia Chirawu-Mugomba said besides the word “luv”, the marks used are not similar and are used on the burger rather than the Chicken Slice logo. She said:

In my view, a national customer who encounters the products of the plaintiff and the first defendant is not likely to be confused by the difference between them.

Justice Chirawu-Mugomba noted that the evidence brought before the court by Chicken Inn was not sufficient as the similarities revealed through chats of clients do not represent the views of all customers. She said:

Apart from the contention that the Chicken Inn was established in 1987, reference to a university student thesis and a few social media chats, the plaintiff has not put anything else before the court that proves goodwill and reputation.

This cannot be by any stretch of the imagination taken as proving goodwill and reputation. As already indicated, this is a matter of fact.

The proof, being a pre-requisite for passing off, Chicken Inn has failed to prove that Chicken Slice passed off any of its products as those of the plaintiff.

Accordingly, the claim for passing off by the plaintiff against Chicken Slice fails. It is trite that costs are at the discretion of the court. I can perceive no reason why Chicken Inn should not be awarded costs.

Shock For Zim Activists As Eswatini Human Rights Lawyer Is Shot Dead

By A Correspondent- Zimbabwean activists have expressed shock following the assassination of Eswatini human rights lawyer Thulani Maseko, who was the Chairperson of the MultiStakeholder Forum (MSF).

Maseko was allegedly shot dead at his home on Saturday 21 January in the evening.

He quoted Maseko’s wife, Tanele Maseko, as confirming the death of the prominent lawyer. She was quoted as saying:

It’s true, Thulani has been killed, bashaye waphola Nkhosi. Ubobuye ushaye kwanyalo kusenemaphoyisa.

According to Swaziland News, Maseko’s death came a few hours after King Mswati III warned those calling for democracy that his mercenaries would deal with them.

Hopewell Chin’ono tweeted:

The tragic assassination of Swazi human rights lawyer, Thulani Maseko is a chilling reminder of how the Corrupt political elites are prepared to do anything to shut down pro-democracy voices.

He was shot yesterday in his home, all because he fought for democracy in Eswatini.

Deprose Muchena described Maseko’s assassination as cold-blooded murder. He tweeted:

Completely devastated after hearing news of the assassination of a dear friend & #Swaziland’s leading human rights lawyer, Thulani Maseko.

He was gunned down in his home, sitting in his living room. This cold-blooded murder is a chilling reminder of what #Eswatini has become.

Elvis Mugari wrote:

I extend my sincere condolences to the Maseko family on the tragic passing of Thulani Maseko, a leading human rights lawyer and pro-democracy activist who was shot dead yesterday evening at his house.

SA Woman Nabbed For Selling Albino Boy To Traditional Healer

By A Correspondent-  South African woman will spend the next twenty years behind bars after she tried to sell an albino child to a traditional healer in Manguzi in northern KwaZulu-Natal.

According to National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson in KZN, Natasha Ramkisson-Kara, the woman approached the traditional healer, James Mthembu, in June 2016.

She allegedly told him that she could arrange for an 11-year-old albino child from her area that he could use for traditional medicine. Said Ramkisson-Kara:

In exchange, she wanted R100 000 and asked him to contact her if he wanted to see the boy.

Kara said Mthembu informed the local police and asked them to accompany him.

She said police thought the information could assist with a missing child case they were working on at the time.

Police, working with Mthembu set a trap for the woman resulting in her arrest. She was charged with attempted human trafficking. Said Kara:

In court, Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions Advocate Cyril Selepe led Mthembu’s evidence as well as that of the child’s mother and the police officers.

Selepe also submitted a Victim Impact Statement compiled by the child’s mother and facilitated by Court Preparation Officer Mandisa Sikakane.

In her statement, the woman said that she has lived in fear ever since the offence. Her son was also fearful.

The woman said that following the incident she kept her child by her side, not allowing him to leave the yard.

She also said that she considers her child to be a gift and she loves him very much, however, she cannot forget how difficult it was to protect him, knowing that there were people who wanted to harm him.

The NPA explained that in sentencing the woman, the court declared her unfit to possess a firearm. Said Kara:

The court further ordered that a social worker go to the woman’s house and assess the situation regarding her own children.

The Director of Public Prosecutions in KZN, Advocate Elaine Zungu, welcomed adding she hoped the sentence would discourage criminals from killing people living with albinism for the purpose of traditional medicines. | IOL

Village Heads Refuse ED Inputs

By A Correspondent- Village heads from Ward 37 in Gutu Central constituency reportedly refused to receive 200 bags of Compound D fertiliser brought for distribution under the Presidential Inputs Scheme by the local councillor.

The Mirror reported that the distribution was supposed to happen at Tachi Business Center near Mukaro on Thursday but the lorry was forced to return with its load.

The local councillor, Gabriel Mapepa, confirmed the incident but accused “drunk youths” of disrupting the distribution process.

However, The Mirror reported sources as saying it was the village heads who came together and decided to refuse the fertiliser.

They said Mapepa had allocated more bags to his home which is called Chipangane B.

After the councillor had briefed the village heads about the distribution modalities, they allegedly refused to accept the fertiliser.

They came from the meeting and told the villagers to reject the fertiliser until the councillor brought the missing bags that had been allocated to Chipangane B.

According to The Mirror, Ward 37 is divided into two distribution centres, one at Tachi which is Chipangane A and another near Gutu Mission which is Chipangane B. Said Mapepa:

We stopped the distribution yesterday because some rowdy youths disrupted the meeting. It was not the village heads who rejected the inputs.

Mapepa reportedly distributed 290 bags to his home area and 200 to Tachi and four villagers were supposed to share a bag.

The councillor is accused of trying to woo voters in the upper part of the ward in areas around the Gutu mission which is occupied by the working class who largely support the opposition.

A disgruntled villager claimed that last year almost 20 bags of fertilizer from the Presidential input scheme disappeared and Mapepa failed to account for them. | The Mirror

UZ Barred From Withholding Results Over Fees

By A Correspondent- The High Court has ordered the University of Zimbabwe (UZ) not to withhold students’ results on account of non-payment of tuition fees.

The UZ Students Representative Council (SRC) approached the courts challenging UZ’s decision to increase tuition fees in 2022.

UZ also restricted students’ access to the examination results via its online platform if they had not settled the arrears of tuition fees it had gazetted.

On Friday, 20 January, High Court judge, Justice Tawanda Chitapi, ordered UZ to release examination results to the concerned students and arrange a payment plan with them for outstanding fees.

Justice Chipato also froze the hike of fees by UZ pending the court case in which the students are arguing, through their lawyer Tendai Biti, that the increase was unconstitutional and unjustified. Said the judge:

Pending the delivery of judgment in Case No. HC 6194/22 reserved by Hon. Chitapi Jon 30 November 2022, the 1st respondent shall not enforce tuition fees set out in ordinance No. 63 dated 6 September 2022.

The 1st respondent is interdicted from withholding the release of results of the two applicants and other students represented by the 1st applicant on account of non-payment of the tuition fees set out in the ordinance.

The first applicant’s members and the second applicant shall however be required upon collection of their results to enter into payment arrangements with the first respondent in terms of which they undertake to pay the difference of the tuition fees set out in ordinance 63 and the previous semester fees levied before the ordinance. Each party bears its own cost.

UZ was cited as the first respondent with the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary education as the second respondent. | NewZimbabwe.com

Nephew Gives Own Uncle’s Murderer Drinking Water

By A Correspondent- Jaison Muvevi, the ex-cop who gunned down three people in Wedza last week was a feared man in the police service sector, former colleagues have reportedly told one of his victims’ nephew.

Muvevi (42), a retired Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officer was said to be well trained and not an easy person to attack during operations.

Officers who followed him in Chiduku, Rusape as he fled after committing the heinous crime allegedly told a nephew of the late Prophet Sirage (Crispen Kanerusine) from Zinzombe village that his records of excellence were known by many.

Muvevi was likened to the popular ex-detective Joseph Nemaisa who also shot and killed three armed men who were holding his family hostage at his Chadcombe home in December 2021.

Narrating the events leading to Muvevi’s disappearance into Mutare, the nephew only identified as (Rob) said he gave water to his uncle’s murderer unaware he had committed a heinous crime.

“I do not regret giving him water. It was my uncle who was fighting his killer in death and I think he also wanted Muvevi to be exposed as he tried to run away from the crime scene in Wedza,” said the nephew.

He went on, “Mukomana (Muvevi) was fleeing from police towards Chiduku driving his white sedan vehicle, Muvevi fired three shots at the officers who were in pursuit at Maruwani Bridge.

“He then fired another shot which hit the police vehicle and immediately reversed his vehicle before driving for about 500m, turning into a small foot path leading to my homestead.”

The nephew explained Muvevi then said, “Gogoi”

At this stage, the nephew alleged he was not aware of what had happened and he entertained his visitor.

“After greetings, Muvevi asked for some drinking water of which I gave him.

“He then inquired about gold mining areas and I showed him the area by just pointing at the mountains nearby. He also asked for matches and I called my son who brought a box and gave him.”

As the conversation continued, Muvevi allegedly told the nephew that he can identify gold when he sees it.

This is the time his phone vibrated.

“As he tried to get his phone from his jeans’ back pocket, I saw two pistols from his jean’s back pockets. I did not panic though I asked myself silently why he was carrying the pistols.

“I then noticed some blood stains on his other shoe. I then called my son and quickly excused myself but he was not bothered about it. I left him there walking towards the area I had pointed out to him as a potential gold mining place.”

When the nephew got home a few meters away from Muvevi, police arrived and asked him about Muvevi’s whereabouts.

“I did not know his name then and I told the police the person they wanted had just left my homestead showing them direction he took.

“As we ran towards the direction he took… we then spotted him coming out of the gorge.”

According to the nephew, he heard one of the officers saying: “let us retreat. We have known this guy for a long time. We know his records in the security sector so we cannot just confront him.”

“This is when I heard that my uncle had been shot dead by the man whom I had entertained a few minutes earlier. I was shocked.

“Muvevi disappeared abandoning his car and escaped on foot,” the nephew explained.

Meanwhile, Muvevi’s victims were all laid to rest this week.

Former Wedza officer -In-Charge Maxwell Hove was buried in his rural home, Mberengwa on Thursday while Crispen Kanerusine and 20-year-old Munashe Munjani were buried in their respective villages, Wedza.

Investigations into the murder cases are still in progress.

Muvevi appeared in court Friday charged with four murder charges and two attempted murder counts.

He is expected in court on February 6, 2023.

Smart Meters For Harare

By A Correspondent- Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) has launched its first smart meters, a modern innovation meant to improve the electrical supply chain.

According to TechZim, the first Installation of these smart meters was done in Harare Polytechnic College and more rollouts are yet to follow according to ZETDC Commercial Director Engineer Katsande. The first rollout of these smart meters already started in Harare has a target of 2500 clients.

ZETDC stands to benefit a lot from these smart meters as they are an extension of ZETDC’s power monitoring and control system. All aspects of power being consumed at a customer’s site are visible to ZETDC. This data is then used to manage the grid more precisely.

In an article posted by Tech Zim, these smart meters have a more precise grid control, “So in the event of load shedding, they will be switching off a blanket area when they could have maybe switched off a few individuals.

With the meters on the customer premises being smart, it can allow ZETDC to execute load shedding for specific loads. So ZETDC can remotely switch off loads like air conditioning and geysers for a premise remotely and still provide power for more business-critical operations.”

Again these smart meters are reported to smarter power grids than the previous meters.

“Managing the grid is also made easier. Currently, ZETDC can manage the grid to the feeder level which is not really an efficient way to do so. With smart meters, the grid will get to a point where it can manage itself based on the load characteristics of the grid at any point in time.

The objective is to maintain a high level of uptime which is what smart grids enable. Beyond just the consumer side of the grid, smart grids enable multiple sources of power to be efficiently plugged into the grid.

That is if a solar farm exists, it will be utilized by the grid during the day and supplemented by thermal power stations. On overcast days, the grid will rely more on thermal and hydropower sources and it does this via software,” reports Tech Zim.

The project of rolling out these meters is reported to cost US$35 million and will be done in phases with a planned 12 770 meters to be installed. As stated the minimum capacity of these meters will be 200kVA which limits access to medium and large institutions.

Widow Loses 50 Cattle To January Disease

By A Correspondent- A 65 year old Fort Rixon widow has so far lost more than 50 cattle as the dreaded theileriosis, commonly known as January disease, has ravaged through the area leaving peasants and small scale farmers wallowing in abject poverty.

Clr Jostinah Ndondo shows some dried meat at her home

The widow, who is Insiza District Ward 18 councillor, Jostinah Ndondo is not alone in the loss of her investment. Her neighbour, Mr Tadious Mhlanga (58) has so far lost 22 cattle to the tick borne disease, among a list of villagers who have lost varying numbers of cattle since the disease attacked the Matabeleland South district last month. The disease is common in the rainy season between December and March. The ward has so far recorded 262 deaths of cattle, according to the Department of Veterinary Services, although some deaths could not have been reported.

The disease is forcing farmers to sell their cattle at drastically low prices of US$100 to US$300. In good times, cattle in the area sell for between US$500 and US$800, depending on the size and breed. Since the disease outbreak, visitors are greeted by the smell of fresh meat at every homestead with dogs in the village no longer so keen on eating the carcasses.

Cattle buyers rush in to buy some of the cattle that have not yet succumbed to the disease

“I am at a loss for words. I have so far lost more than 50 cattle out of the 90 cattle I had. This is a cattle area but this disease is impoverishing us at a rate we never really ever thought. I had over 160 cattle but of course I sold some and invested in a tractor and other farming implements but then losing more than 50 is too much of a blow especially when you are not getting anything out of it. The challenge is that if the disease attacks your cattle, within three days they will be dead. There is no time to run around and look at what you can do. Besides, the disease looks like it can’t be cured, while very little can be done to prevent it completely,” said Mrs Ndondo.

She said almost every homestead had meat from cattle killed by the disease and no-one was buying from another, leaving villagers sometimes just letting their cattle be eaten by vultures. She added that it was fortunate that Village Four had electricity, a development that somehow mitigates the problem as they can store some of their meat fresh.

“These three deep freezers you see are full (of meat) while we are also busy drying some,” said Mrs Ndondo.

The cattle buyers in the area could not be drawn into commenting but two trucks were parked at the local PBS Shopping Centre with one already loaded with cattle. Some of the trucks were seen going around with a police officer assisting in clearing the cattle. At Mr Mhlanga’s homestead, the news crew was greeted by a sombre atmosphere uncharacteristic of rural homesteads. Mr Mhlanga lay deep in sleep at his veranda far from his usual work routine. The tragedy that befell him has left him with minimal energy and the zeal to go about his day-to-day chores.

“Even if we talk, will we bring back to life these cattle,” said a dejected Mr Mhlanga as he resignedly invited the news crew to his empty kraal.

“I settled here in the year 2000. I came here with only six cattle and I managed to grow my herd to 46. However, since 23 December to date I have lost 22 cattle due to the January disease and that is less than a month.

The cattle have just been dying, the herd boys would go to the grazing fields and come with reports that particular cows are sick while some would have died. At times you wake up to find that five are sick in the kraal and even if you try to dose or give them any medication it yields nothing as they would eventually die. Initially we would try and bury the carcass but as the number escalated, we couldn’t manage,” said Mr Mhlanga.

So intense has been the outbreak such that even the mere flying of vultures brings some pain and boredom to villagers.

Meanwhile, Matabeleland South Provincial Veterinary Director Dr Enart Mdlongwa said the Government was working tirelessly to ensure that farmers do not continue losing more cattle to the disease.

“The Government is doing a lot to curb the diseases. We have intensified the distribution of tick-grease with farmers receiving a kilogramme annually as well as dipping chemicals. Resources have been mobilized as well to ensure the rehabilitation of dip tanks in the areas,” said Dr Mdlongwa.

Dr Mdlongwa said the disease had no negative effect on human beings hence consuming the meat from cattle slaughtered after being observed to have been attacked by the disease was not harmful. The disease is suspected to have been imported by a farmer who moved in cattle irregularly from areas where it had been reported.

Police Up In Arms With Energy Minister

By A Correspondent- Police in Muzarabani are up in arms with Energy Minister Zhemu Soda who is also Muzarabani North legislator.

In a police document gleaned by Bulawayo24.com the police allege Soda wants farmers in Muzarabani  to buy and sell cattle without licences.

The document states that Soda called for a stock theft clearance meeting in Muzarabani on January 6 and the meeting was attended by local leaders, President’s office, Vetenary department and ZANU PF youths led by Emmerson Raradza.

“The agenda was of the meeting was a single one to look into  the cattle clearance process that has caused  suffering to cattle farmers,” reads part of the document.

The document further claims that Soda told one Guruve Supritendent Chiyangwa that he wanted local farmers in Muzarabani  to be allowed to buy and sell cattle without licences since most of them were unemployed.

Supritendent  Chiyangwa denied Soda’s suggestion  saying the cattle clearing process was an organisational process and he coud not change it himself.

However, Chief Hwata of Muzarabani together with Muzarabani District Development Coodinator John  Chihobo spoke highly of the police clearance process at the meeting.

Stock theft is rife in Muzarabani and Mbire districts.

Growth Trajectory Davos 2023 Zimbabwe To Benefit

By Dr Masimba Mavaza- Davos 2023 has cast open the road for Zimbabwe to get back on its growth trajectory.

The leaders at the World Economic Forum’s Annual Meeting 2023 in Davos, Switzerland, spent the whole week finding ways to achieve this goal.

Davos 2023 has opened the eyes of our leaders, who can now see that Zimbabwe’s most enormous potential is in its youth and children.

With a strong delegation led by Mhofu yemukono minister of Foreign Affairs, Cde Fredrick Shava, Zimbabwe has been put on the cusp of another long stretch of growth.

Despite a well-documented list of setbacks, it can develop while shielding its populations from socioeconomic shocks.

But what will it take? And what stands in the way?

Minister Mthuli Ncube has suggested enhancing the nation’s finances and economical stretch.

Speaking on the Reigniting Growth in Africa panel at the World Economic Forum’s Annual Meeting 2023, economist and Chairwoman of the Board of the Liquidity & Sustainability Facility, Vera Songwe said that “for Africa, the polycrisis has four faces – conflict, climate, COVID-19 and the cost of living.

African countries must advance on these four fronts to regain and surpass previous development records. To do so, there must be a level of austerity.” Patrick Njoroge, former governor of Kenya’s central bank, said African governments must learn to live within their means because borrowing costs are high and debt levels are rising.

Indeed, the debt question was raised in several discussions around Africa’s growth trajectory.

Speaking during the Realizing Africa’s Century session, UNAIDS Chief Winnie Byanyima said that some “African countries are paying two times more in debt repayments than their total budget for education, and four times more in debt repayments than their total budgets for health.” She suggested that new solutions need to be found for this old problem.”

“Debt is choking many countries, and it is urgent that it is resolved through a system that is better than the current framework. They need a multilateral, legal framework so that they can negotiate their loans and access the fiscal space they need to grow.”

This crippling debt speaks to a global system that is tainted by inequality.

It has been spelt out in Davos that crises stemming from the war in Ukraine, poverty, insecurity and climate change have affected Zimbabwe and Africa.

Minister Mthuli emphasized that his top priority is for Zimbabwe to take charge, and to that end, Zimbabwe has made drastic moves to improve its economic stand. This includes banning the export of Lithium and seeding. Seeding refers to assisting farmers with seeds to create social funding.

Zimbabwe has taken the advice of Davos 2023 seriously of taking charge, starting with investing in people.

The ministers who attended the forum were cde Shava cde Mthuli and CHIHERA Sekai Nzenza, who left early for Iran on other pressing business. Nzenza said that women and young people must be encouraged to become start-up entrepreneurs and supported through capacity building. She urged Zimbabweans to become self-reliant by building businesses, creating local markets and selling local products at competitive prices.

Echoing cde Nzenza’s sentiments Dr Songwe, who spoke on Reigniting Growth in Africa panel, said that a lot of the global supply chains start on our continent and can finish on our continent, but only if African countries take steps to transform their raw materials into finished goods on the continent. Songwe said this would create jobs, add value, and deepen Africa’s involvement in global trade.

This comment dove-tailed what Zimbabwe had done by putting a ban on exporting raw materials and particularly Lithium and demanded that investors must only ship finished products.

Similarly, Njoroge, a former central bank governor, suggested a ban on exporting certain raw materials to support the local manufacture of essential goods. This, he said, would circumvent global supply chain bottlenecks. Nonkululeko Nyembezi, an independent, non-executive chairman of the Standard Bank Group, agreed, saying that Africa would be well on its way if governments extracted all of the cobalt, copper, and nickel that the new green economy needs. However, she added that Africa would have to increase emissions in the short term.

The spirit of Davos this year was buttressing what Zimbabwe has started doing. Zimbabwe was criticized for banning the export of raw materials by detractors, but Davos put paid for that action.

Davos 2023, like many forums, focused on climate change, mitigation and adaptation. Delegates pointed to role of solar and other renewable energies in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. It was said by one delegate that “the world would only slay the climate change dragon through private/public partnership, but the world would have to be patient with Africa in the global pathway to net zero because to get to green, the continent will need fossil fuels.”

However Zimbabwe has its champions in Climate Change. Even though he did not attend the World Economic Forum Delish Nguwaya is one of the Zimbabwean business people who is producing energy from waste. Nguwaya is the Chief Executive Officer of Pomona Dumpsite, turning the dump to electricity. Pomona Project was awarded several recognitions for their effort, and Davos 2023 was the right place. In recognizing the fight against Climate Change the Zimbabwe Integrated Traders Association (ZITA) honoured the businessman Delish Nguwaya with a special Innovative Business Award in recognition of his leading role in the Pomona Waste Management project.

The project had earned Nguwaya enemies and friends. He was vilified, demonized, and criminalized by many in particular. He clashed with Harare City Council as mayor Jacob Mafume and his CCC party worked together with the misguided independent member of Parliament Temba Mliswa.

Despite all the nonsense, Nguwaya was rewarded when Davos 2023 dedicated time to climate change and promoting other means of generating power.

In recognition of the award, Nguwaya said the innovation award is a timely motivation as he dedicated it to the Geo Pomona team.

“The illustrious, game-changing emergence of the new waste management will change the face of public service delivery in the country. The project is an outgrowth of the Government’s openness to innovations,” he said.

“This award is not mine as an individual, but it is a special token present through me in respect to a broader agenda which Geo Pomona is promoting in line with the visionary cause of the Second Republic in creating an upper-middle class income economy by 2030.”

Nguwaya reinforced the fact that African counties need to become more climate resilient by embracing an energy mix that includes dump and solar, wind and geothermal. With that, there is still much to be hopeful about when thinking about the future of zimbabwe. Nguwaya has shown the Zimbabwean people and the world that the earth can still be saved.

Davos will provide the following:

  • The young, ambitious, tech-savvy population.
  • Its a fast-growing middle class.
  • A large and diverse market for goods and services.
  • The plus side of rapid urbanization.

While the whole world groans under the economic downturn, we have realized that Zimbabweans are resilient. They are hungry for growth. Everybody wants a better life, and the spirit of people should never be underestimated.

As Davos Clichés to an end, Zimbabwe, under Emmerson MNANGAGWA’s guidance, has taken a leaf from this forum.

Man Jailed For Using Colleague’s IDs

By A Correspondent- A 27 year old man from Chinhoyi was jailed for using a friend’s credentials and other personal documents to obtain employment as a store assistant.

Blessed Believe Juruvenge of Ruvimbo Phase 1, Chinhoyi appeared before Magistrate Batanai Madzingira facing fraud.

His actions were in violation of section 136 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act chapter 9:23.

Juruvenge was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment but five months were conditionally suspended.

The complainant was Blessed Hosiah Musasa, who is a forklift operator at the Cotton Company of Zimbabwe (Cottco) Chinhoyi.

According to the prosecutor, Clever Nyapfani, sometime in July 2022, Juruvenge went to Musasa’s home and requested his curriculum vitae (CV), educational transcripts, driver’s license, and recommendation letter.

Juruvenge claimed there was a vacancy for a driver which had arisen at the butchery where he was working and would help Musasa get the job.

It was further heard Musasa gave the accused person his CV, Ordinary and Advanced Level certificates, Class Two driver’s licence and referral letter from Cottco as well as an original national identity card.

On July 22 last year, Juruvenge went to Greater Grace Groceries, where he misrepresented to proprietor Tongai Mhizha that he was actually Musasa and tendered copies of qualifications and ID.

Juruvenge received a job offer as a general hand through false representation up until his arrest at the beginning of this month.

On January 13, 2023, the complainant got a tip-off from a churchmate of Juruvenge’s shenanigans.

The matter was reported to the police leading to his arrest.

Police recovered Musassa’s documents that were used in the fraudulent job application.

Gardener Whose Fingers Were Lost As Keyholder Grenade Explodes Appeals For Aid

By A Correspondent- A gardener from Bulawayo who lost four fingers when a hand grenade he was using as a key holder exploded on him is now appealing for assistance.

The man, Gidmore Kangwembe (47) who is admitted to the United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH), said he can no longer fend for his family because of the injuries he sustained.

Kangwembe said he found the grenade on New Year’s Day when he was on a piece job in Burnside where he was tasked with cutting grass.

He said when he saw the grenade, he didn’t realise that it was a dangerous object. He said he used it as a key holder. Said Kangwembe:

It was on a Sunday and I went to this other yard for a piece job and I was with a friend of mine. While cutting grass I then picked this thing that I didn’t know.

I asked my friend what it was but he couldn’t provide an answer too. We both didn’t suspect that it could be dangerous.

I then took it and used it as my key holder up until Thursday at around 3 PM when I decided to check what exactly it was.

While still investigating to find out what it could be it exploded and shredded four fingers from my right hand.

Kangwembe, a father to four, fears his children were going to suffer as his job was the only source of income for his family. He said:

I am a father of four, my wife is not working. Now that I’m still in hospital no one is providing for my family and with the condition I am in right now I don’t know when I’m going to be discharged, let alone start working with one hand hence my appeal to well-wishers to help me and my family. Stepfather Attacked Over Sadza

By A Correspondent- The love of staple food caused a 32-year-old man from Mapunga Farm, Bindura to nurse injurues after he was attacked by his step daughter over a sadza dispute.

The matter came to light at Bindura magistrates courts on Friday when the daughter, Jenny Sigauke appeared before magistrate Samantha Dhlamini.

The state led by Sheilla Maribha alleged on January 15, Shaini Chidodoma arrived home from a beer binge around 9pm.

He allegedly asked for his supper from his wife.

Sigauke reportedly started shouting at him using obscene words before retiring to her bedroom hut.

Chidodoma followed demanding to know the reason behind all the shouting he had received.

Unfortunately upon his arrival in her room, she struck him with an iron hoe twice on the head, once on the shoulder and once the arm.

He managed to escape from the scene but sustained deep cuts.

The matter continues on January  31.

Chidodoma then allegedly harassed her thereby infuriating Sigauke, his step daughter from her former marriage.

Mozambique Bans Marange Apostolic Sect Over Child Marriages

By A Correspondent- The Mozambican Ministry of Justice has banned, in the Central Province of Manica, a religious sect called “Johane Marange” for allegedly promoting child marriage and disrespecting health issues.

The church in question first emerged in neighbouring Zimbabwe, where it has a large following in Manicaland Province.

According to Albachir Macassar, the National Director of Justice, Constitutional and Religious Affairs, interviewed by Radio Mozambique, the Ministry has also banned some religious institutions with “obscure purposes” in the southern Province of Inhambane.

“To discipline some behaviour and excesses of certain religious denominations, a draft Law on Religious Freedom and Worship is under discussion to regulate the exercise of this activity in Mozambique”, the director said.

Macassar argues that the State should act, not to interfere in the exercise of the activities of religious groupings. but to direct and discipline them “and the new law will provide for the registration of a religious denomination with a minimum of 2,000 faithful, in contrast to the current law which recognizes any religious body with a minimum of 500 faithful.”

According to Macassar, for the establishment of a new church, by those who decide to leave an existing congregation, they must possess a letter of disaffiliation or recommendation, and their leaders must hold a certificate in theology.

“They must possess a letter of recommendation from the top leader of the previous religious grouping, attesting to their suitability to found another congregation”, he said.

Hopewell Chin’ono Secures 50 Life-Saving Dialysis Machines For Zim Hospitals

Human rights activist and journalist Hopewell Chin’ono, has announced that he has secured 50 dialysis machines for Zimbabwe from one of his contacts based in the United Kingdom.

This requires competent councilors and mayors in cities.

Our people are dying yet these machines are affordable going for as little as USUS$8 000.

Chin’ono, a critic of the government, has over the past few years been exposing the rot in the country’s public health delivery system.

In 2020, he was arrested after he exposed the looting of public funds in the procurement of COVID-19 test kits and other medical sundries.

US$350k Windfall For CIO Directors

By A Correspondent- In a desperate attempt to placate key players in the electoral matrix ahead of the vital general elections later this year, President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s financially precarious administration has handed senior Central Intelligence Organization (CIO) directors US$350 000 house loans each.

In order to uphold the status quo and protect the incumbent, general elections in Zimbabwe are frequently conducted by security forces in contravention of the law and the constitution.

Since the ruling party and the government are conflated, Zanu PF has dissolved into state institutions and structures that continue to support it in elections, particularly at the presidential election level.

The CIO plays a crucial role in important elections, which includes voter registration, preparing the voters’ list, conducting pre-polling surveys, embedding themselves in electoral bodies to monitor and influence processes, accreditation, and getting the results much earlier than everyone else for security reasons. They also make sure they decide on how to handle situations in a timely manner, especially if there is an unfavorable outcome.

The CIO collaborated with a renowned researcher from the University of Zimbabwe to develop election surveys, which were then falsely touted as the result of academic study to manipulate elections. This significant electoral scam was discovered by a local journalist in 2008.

In that situation, the CIO had created the report and provided it to the academic for him to claim as his own, forecasting a victory for the late president.

The first CIO draft report had actually shown Mugabe losing, but it was considered politically unacceptable and a new one was done giving him marginal victory over the late main opposition MDC candidate Morgan Tsvangirai.

As things turned out, Tsvangirai actually defeated Mugabe in the first round of polling with 47.87% (which many believed was suppressed to ensure a run-off) to 43.24%.

The CIO and other security forces have agents embedded in the whole electoral process, including at the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec), particularly at secretariat level. The Zec secretariat is headed by Utloile Silaigwana, who was in the army. He took over as chief elections officer from the late Lovemore Sekeramayi, a former top CIO officer.

“There is a windfall for CIO. Senior directors who are regarded as deputy ministerial level are getting US$350 000 as housing allowances. District Intelligence Officers and above will get ZW$3 000 000, while those below have been given ZW$1 000 000 backdated allowances,” a source said.

“Besides that, an internal confidential circular has been written, saying no one is resigning. The memo basically says even those who have reached retirement can stay on until further notice.

This is a desperate bid to stop officers from quitting as they have been doing due to poor conditions of service. It’s also about elections.”

The cash-strapped government has continued splurging cash despite an outcry from a large section of impoverished citizens after authorities lavished each minister with US$500 000 and deputy ministers US$350 000 in housing allowances.

The funds were unbudgeted for. Legislators were also allocated US$40 000 each in November last year, sparking a major outcry, especially against opposition MPs who were accused of joining the gravy train.

The loans totalled US$14 million for all the 350 legislators.

Also late last year, the government began installing solar panels at homes of more than 100 government officials, commissioners and service chiefs at the cost of US$14 000 per unit to cushion them from rolling nationwide power cuts lasting up to 18 hours.

This came after the Zambezi River Authority ordered the Zimbabwe Power Company (ZPC), a Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority subsidiary to stop generating electricity at Lake Kariba.

ZPC exhausted its yearly water allocation. The installations were done at taxpayers’ expense.

Justifying the legislators’ allowances to The NewsHawks in December last year, the chairperson of the parliamentary welfare committee, Temba Mliswa, who is also Norton independent MP, said the allowances for ministers in particular were not budgeted for.

“Ministers got US$500 000 and deputy ministers US$350 000, but that was not budgeted for. MPs’ allowances were budgeted for. Besides the US$40 000, MPs also got US$50 000 for cars,” he said.

“We were supposed to get US$80 000, but we were given US$50 000. That means there is a balance of US$30 000. The accommodation issue for MPs is a serious matter that needs to be addressed.

“People must remember that for MPs this is not free money. These are loans guaranteed by our pensions. If you don’t pay back, you lose your pension. But for ministers, it’s a different story; that was not budgeted for.”

Opposition CCC president Nelson Chamisa however described the loans to legislators as a bribe, after which he slammed the government’s looting culture.

“Normally when they smear porridge around your mouth you will not have eaten and that is what has happened. Zanu PF people have been giving themselves a lot of money; ministers, deputy ministers. You go to the judiciary; you go to the other organs of the state; I will not mention, but, I have got all the details. You will be shocked to look at the money that they have been doling out and the trinkets that they have been giving,” Chamisa said.

“. . . but CCC were not supposed to drink from this poisoned chalice. They have joined the pioneer column, they have joined the gravy train and they have crossed the line. I told them that if you don’t act accordingly, you know what it means. The citizens are waiting for you and they are going to punish you and punish you heavily so that one is already catered for, I do not agree with it, I do not encourage it, I do not support it. I do not believe that people must be talking about their welfare when the nation is struggling, the way we are struggling.”

Chamisa added the funds could be diverted to the health sector, which is in dire straits.

“If you take US$40 000, I went to a hospital just this week, US$40 000 will do so much just to transform the outlook of our hospitals, in terms of linen, in terms of the beds that are broken. It’s a pathetic situation. The toilets are not functioning, there is nothing, not even boreholes, there is no water, but if you take US$40 000 it will do wonders just for a member of Parliament and for Parliament to then behave like it’s a bank or government has turned itself into a bank that is giving loans for me (it) defeats logic.”

Mwonzora’s MDC Heading For A Split

By A Correspondent- Douglas Mwonzora-led MDC-T is headed for another split after its deputy leader Elias Mudzuri said he would resist attempts to expel him from the party as part of intensifying power struggles.

Mudzuri, Norest Marara, Mashonaland West province chairperson Gift Konjana, Masvingo province chairperson John Nyika, US province chairperson Den Moyo, secretary for Education, Edwin Dzambara and national executive member Edwin Kakora were slapped with suspensions last week.

The former Harare mayor poured his heart out on Twitter and revealed that an MDC-T national council meeting held yesterday in Harare was meant to expel him from the party.

“I am reliably informed that today the illegitimate MDC national council will expel me from the party,” he said.,

How can a founder member be expelled for insisting that leaders must always be chosen by the base structures and not the elite and for merely chatting with customers at Duriro Bar.”

Mnangagwa Throws Former White Commercial Farmers Under The Bus

By- President Emmerson Mnangagwa has betrayed White former commercial farmers, whom he grabbed land from during the fast-track resettlement programme.

The former commercial farmers have expressed worry about the new payment terms Mnangagwa is offering them.

Last month, the Government proposed new payment terms to compensate the farmers for improvements made on the farms before they were seized at the turn of the Millenium for re-distribution.

Commercial Farmers Union (CFU) president Andrew Pascoe last week said the proposed new payment terms are “completely” different from schedules outlined in the initial deal, also known as the Global Compensation Deed signed in 2020.

Under the original agreement, the farmers were to receive a total of US$3.5 billion between 2020 and 2024.

Half the money had to be paid during the first year, followed by four US$437.5 million annual instalments.

The Government, however, failed to fulfil its obligation. Said Pascoe:

We have engaged our financial and legal advisors and our biggest worry is that the compensation was going to be much faster than the new terms.

We have proposed some safeguards, which we want to be included in new payment terms; we are waiting for a response from the Government so that discussions can start.

But the major issue is that we want to see if the Government can provide additional safeguards.

Pascoe did not disclose the finer details citing confidentiality and protocol issues.

Finance and Economic Development Minister Mthuli Ncube said in the 2023 Budget Statement in November last year the Government was still on course to raise the funds.

He said US dollar Treasury bonds would be issued this year to raise US$3.15 billion. | Business Weekly

Muvevi’s Horror Shootings Details Start To Emerge

By-Eye-witnesses have started to narrate how Jaison Muvevi, a retired Criminal Investigations Department (CID) officer, gunned down three people in Hwedza last Friday.

Muvevi is also said to have been a feared man in the police service sector as he was well-trained and not an easy person to attack during operations.

He has been likened to another former detective Joseph Nemaisa who single-handedly confronted five armed robbers who were holding his family hostage at his Chadcombe home in December 2021 and killed three of them while the other two ran away.

CID officers who were pursuing Muvevi from Hwedza where he shot dead three people and seriously injured another caught up with him in the Chiduku area of Rusape.

Narrating the events leading to Muvevi’s disappearance from Chiduku on Saturday, 14 January, a villager who is a nephew of the late Prophet Sirage (Crispen Kanerusine) who had been shot dead the previous day, said he gave the killer drinking water unaware that he killed his uncle.

Madzibaba Sirage’s nephew, only identified as (Rob) said he was shocked when he later learned that Muvevi had gunned down his uncle in Hwedza. He said:

I do not regret giving him water. It was my uncle who was fighting his killer in death and I think he also wanted Muvevi to be exposed as he tried to run away from the crime scene in Wedza.

Mukomana (Muvevi) was fleeing from police towards Chiduku driving his white sedan vehicle, Muvevi fired three shots at the officers who were in pursuit at Maruwani Bridge.

He then fired another shot which hit the police vehicle and immediately reversed his vehicle before driving for about 500m, turning into a small footpath leading to my homestead.

Rob said Muvevi then entered his homestead and entertained him unaware of what had happened. He said:

After greetings, Muvevi asked for some drinking water which I gave him.

He then inquired about gold mining areas and I showed him the area by just pointing at the mountains nearby.

He also asked for matches and I called my son who brought a box and gave him.

As Muvevi was explaining to the nephew that he can identify gold when he sees it, his phone vibrated. Said Madzibaba Sirage’s nephew:

As he tried to get his phone from his jeans’ back pocket, I saw two pistols from his jean’s back pockets.

I did not panic though I asked myself silently why he was carrying the pistols.

I then noticed some blood stains on his other shoe. I then called my son and quickly excused myself but he was not bothered about it.

I left him there walking towards the area I had pointed out to him as a potential gold mining place.

When the nephew got home a few meters away from Muvevi, police arrived and asked him about Muvevi’s whereabouts. He said:

I did not know his name then and I told the police the person they wanted had just left my homestead showing them the direction he took.

As we ran towards the direction he took… we then spotted him coming out of the gorge.

According to the slain prophet’s nephew, he heard one of the police officers saying:

Let us retreat. We have known this guy for a long time.

We know his records in the security sector so we cannot just confront him.

This is when I heard that my uncle had been shot dead by the man whom I had entertained a few minutes earlier. I was shocked.

Muvevi disappeared abandoning his car and escaped on foot.

Muvevi appeared in court on Friday charged with four murder charges and two attempted murder counts. He is expected in court on 6 February 2023. | NewZimbabwe.com

Muvevi In Six More Fresh Murder Cases Probe

By- The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has announced that they are investigating leads linking ex-detective Jaison Muvevi (42) to six other murder cases in and around Harare and Chitungwiza over the past three years.

Muvevi was arrested on Monday, 16 January for allegedly killing three people in Hwedza on 13 January.

His alleged victims were Chrispen Kanerusine (48) of Hwedza, Hwedza officer-in-charge Inspector Maxwell Hove (43) and 27-year-old Munashe Majani, who was a bartender at Ruzema Bottle Store, Mukamba Business Centre, Hwedza.

He has also been charged with the murder of Nyarai Round (33) of Domboshava.

On Friday, prosecutors added another murder charge after detectives investigating the Hwedza shootings established that Muvevi could have killed another man in Harare last year.

Muvevi is presently before the courts facing four murder charges and two attempted murder charges.

Police suspect the same weapon used by Muvevi during the shooting spree in Hwedza was the one used to fatally shoot Nyarai Round in Eastlea on 19 November 2022.

The Sunday Mail reported sources close to the investigations as saying that the weapon in question is said to have been linked to six other murders dating back to 2020.

Bullet casings obtained from the respective crime scenes as evidence have been sent for forensic ballistic analysis to ascertain whether they were discharged from Muvevi’s firearm.

ZRP spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the new development but did not give more details. He said:

We are looking at the possibility that Muvevi could have committed other cases using his firearm.

Right now, we are in the process of verifying with the ballistic analysis.

Remember, through the ballistic analysis, we managed to link him to the murder which happened on November 19 last year. We are certainly looking at that possibility.

Last week, Muvevi appeared before Harare magistrate Evelyn Mashavirakure and was remanded in custody to 6 February.

He was advised to approach the High Court for bail application. | The Sunday Mail

CCC Champion In Pothole Filling Initiative

Tinashe Sambiri| CCC champion Richard Pamire embarked on a pothole filling initiative in Kuwadzana, Harare on Saturday.

The hardworking CCC member is also spearheading a massive voter registration campaign in the area.

In a brief statement, Pamire said :

“Due to raining ndikuita pothole filling in Kuwadzana, ward 37( Our roads were damaged by heavy rains so I have decided to moot the pothole filling initiative).

I am using my own resources . I am happy with the support from the community. It is our mandate as citizens to make sure that our roads are decent and up to scratch.”

ZEC Tells Chamisa To Beg Luke Malaba For Voters Roll

By A Correspondent- The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) says it will not comment on the request for the electronic voters roll until the Justice Luke Malaba led courts have made a ruling on the matter.

Following Team Pachedu’s accusations of manipulation, civic society organisations, as well as political parties, have requested access to the computerized voters’ roll.

However, in a Twitter post, the commission said:

The issue concerning availing the electronic voters roll to those who request it is before the courts or sub-judice hence the commission will not comment on that matter until there is a court determination’

The Election Resource Centre (ERC), a local watchdog, is among the organisations that tried in vain to get a copy of the voters’ roll.

ERC said without the voters’ roll, it will be impossible to know if the boundaries created by the delimitation process have followed the law and if indeed votes are equal.

Mwonzora’s Party In Turmoil As Mudzuri Resists Suspension

The Douglas Mwonzora-led MDC-T is headed for another split after its deputy leader Elias Mudzuri said he would resist attempts to expel him from the party as part of intensifying power struggles.

“I am reliably informed that today the illegitimate MDC national council will expel me from the party,” he said.

“How can a founder member be expelled for insisting that leaders must always be chosen by the base structures and not the elite and for merely chatting with customers at Duriro Bar.”

Mudzuri owns Duriro Bar in Harare. He told The Standard in an interview yesterday that he could not be chased away from a party he “founded”.

“They may expel me on paper, but I will remain MDC,” he said.

“I believe in MDC principles. You should be asking Mwonzora why they have abandoned the MDC tradition.

“They should have consulted the people. No one is bigger than an institution.

“The council has taken its powers too far.

“The council has no power to override the congress and a congress must start from the ward. If I am the one who is wrong the people should judge. It is the masses who should judge.”

Mwonzora’s spokesperson Lloyd Damba dismissed Mudzuri’s claims that he was a founding member of the MDC.

Damba said Mudzuri was afraid of the outcome of the council before it was proclaimed because he knew he was guilty.

“As for now he is on suspension pending investigations and until then let’s wait for the national council to deliberate and resolve then we take it from there,” he said.

“Remember it was Mudzuri and his team who wrote to the national council last week. How can he now stop the national council to deliberate on the issues he wrote to them about? Today he attacks the same body by calling it illegitimate, totally undermining it again,” Damba said.

“I cannot give a response to his expulsion before it happens but as always the guilty are always afraid.

“Mudzuri has been lying to the world that he is a founder member of the MDC, but this is not true.

“He joined the party in 2002 after he was co-opted as deputy ward chairperson for Budiriro where he was operating his night club.

“His first party card was facilitated in the same year by Alois Masepe.”

Mwonzora wrestled control of MDC-T from Thokozani Khupe in 2020 after seizing the then led Nelson Chamisa MDC Alliance through court battles. He parted ways with Khupe in 2021 after a controversial congress.

Abusing Marry, VP Chiwenga Shamelessly Praises Stella Chiweshe

Fresh from abusing the mother of his three children, Acting President Dr Constantino Chiwenga has praised the late iconic songstress, Mbuya Stella Chiweshe, as a cultural ambassador who worked hard to preserve Zimbabwe’s culture and promote the country’s traditional music on the global stage.

Vice-President-Constantino-Chiwenga

The musician, who pioneered and popularised the Mbira Dzavadzimu music genre, died at her Kuwadzana home on Friday after battling cancer.

She was 76.

Government will foot her funeral costs after she was granted a State-assisted funeral.

The Mbira Dzavadzimu music proponent rose to global acclaim on the back of her uniquely Zimbabwean sound.

In a statement, Acting President Chiwenga said he had learnt of Mbuya Chiweshe’s passing with a deep sense of sorrow.

“Mbuya Chiweshe played a huge role in the preservation, celebration as well as taking Zimbabwean culture on to the global stage through her Mbira Dzavadzimu music,” said Acting President Chiwenga.

“Today, the rest of the world is acquainted to mbira music and Zimbabwean culture, thanks, in part, to the works of Mbuya Chiweshe.

“As Government, we view her international success marked by international music awards not only as recognition of her talent but as a celebration of Zimbabwean culture.

“Thanks to the immortality of music, the world will continue to celebrate Zimbabwean culture beyond the life of Mbuya Chiweshe, and, as Zimbabweans, we can only be proud of this global acclaim that she has and will continue to bring us.”

Acting President Chiwenga said the late musician helped inspire Zimbabwean’s quest for freedom.

“Having started her musical journey as far back as the 1960s at a time the colonial Government frowned at the mbira instrument, which they viewed as an instrument of rebellion and one of spiritual inspiration towards the attainment of independence, Mbuya Chiweshe’s music played a role in inspiring freedom fighters.

“Let me also take this opportunity to thank His Excellency the President Dr ED Mnangagwa for granting this great ambassador of our culture and our music a State-assisted funeral.”

Zimbabwe, he said, was poorer without Mbuya Chiweshe.

In a statement announcing the decision to accord the inspirational musician a State-assisted funeral, Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet Dr Misheck Sibanda said: “The Acting President, Dr Constantino Dominic Guveya Nyikadzino Chiwenga, after consultation with His Excellency President, Dr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, has announced that Government has granted the late music icon and Mbira Dzavadzimu player, Mbuya Stella Rambisai Chiweshe, a State-assisted funeral.

“This means all the costs related to her interment will be assumed by the State.

“His Excellency the President, who is on leave, and the Acting President extend their deepest, heartfelt condolences to the entire Chiweshe and Reich families on this, their saddest loss.”

He said the late musician epitomised Zimbabwe’s cultural excellence through the Mbira Dzavadzimu genre, which she successfully took to the international stage.

National Arts Council of Zimbabwe director Mr Nicholas Moyo thanked the Government for the recognition.

“For us, we are grateful for this recognition; its confirmed, and we would like to thank the Government for that,” he said.

“The seriousness that the Government is showing to the industry is greatly appreciated.

“It’s not like there is a crisis or that artists cannot cater for themselves, but it’s an honour and recognition from Government, and, once again, we are grateful for that.”

Mr Moyo said burial arrangements will be finalised upon the arrival into the country of Mbuya Chiweshe’s eldest daughter.

Separately, the Zimbabwe Music Awards described the late Mbuya Chiweshe as a renowned mbira player, musician and cultural ambassador who single-handedly made it possible for the girl-child to play the mbira instrument when it was associated with men only.

“She unapologetically took our music and culture to the world and raised the Zimbabwean flag high and proud.

“Today, she leaves not only a musical legacy, but a legacy of humility and humanity, Ubuntu.”

Stella Rambisai Nekati Chiweshe was born on July 8, 1946 in Mujumi Village, Mhondoro, Zimbabwe.

She was internationally known for her singing and playing mbira, an art which she learned between 1966 and 1969.

Mbuya Chiweshe performed numerous times in Germany and also participated in the WOMAD Festival (1994 in the United States, 1995 in Australia, and 2006 in Spain). In 2004, she toured England with her daughter.

Mbuya Chiweshe was married to Peter Reich, a German national.-state media

50 Cows Killed

A 65-year-old Fort Rixon widow has so far lost more than 50 cattle as the dreaded theileriosis, commonly known as January disease, has ravaged through the area leaving peasants and small scale farmers wallowing in abject poverty.

The ward has so far recorded 262 deaths of cattle, according to the Department of Veterinary Services, although deaths could not have been reported.

– state media

Zimsec On Taking Child Returnees from SA

The Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (Zimsec) has laid down the technicalities that will be considered for absorbing learners coming from outside the country into the country’s education system.
The country is anticipating an influx of learners into its system after the extended 30 June deadline for the expiry of the Zimbabwe Exemption Permits (ZEP) in South Africa and school going children are expected to produce valid examination results that will be measured using the qualification equivalence grade conversion system, so that they can be admitted to further their education.

For students who may not have sat for examinations yet in South Africa but want to return to school in Zimbabwe, they will be assessed at the school level by the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education.

Admittance into primary and secondary education will be measured by syllabus coverage of the learners from South Africa which will determine where they will be placed to continue with their education before they sit for public examinations that are assessed by Zimsec.

Zimsec public relations manager Ms Nicky Dlamini told Sunday News that they will assess students that produce an exit qualification from South African schools or any other country to see its comparability with local examination standards, either Cambridge or Zimsec.

“The grade conversion is what is termed ‘Qualifications Equivalence’. This is a process where candidates have their grades equated to the grading standards of the country in which they wish to continue their education. For instance, candidates would need to get an equivalence of their Matric to Zimsec qualifications so as to know which level they have attained according to the educational system in Zimbabwe,” she said.

Ms Dlamini explained that countries have standards that they follow regarding learners coming from other jurisdictions.

“All examination boards have a standard that they abide by when conducting equivalence. The syllabus of the country of origin and the syllabus of the country in which they wish to study are compared and contrasted. The assessment models and instruments are also used. These standards are according to assessment standards set and regulated by the Southern African Association for Education Assessment (SAAEA), Association for Education Assessment for Africa (AEAA), and the International Association for Education Assessment (IAEA),” said Ms Dlamini.

The process is not free. Ms Dlamini said parents and guardians should be aware of the Equivalence of Qualifications costs which are pegged at US$15 which is payable in local currency at the interbank rate of the day.

This process takes a maximum of 48 hours and learners must provide their original certificates awarded by the examining board.

Director of Communications and Advocacy in the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education Mr Taungana Ndoro recently said the country was ready to absorb learners coming from South Africa.

“We have systems in place in our sector to assess learners from other countries so that we place them in appropriate levels or grades. That has been going on for a long time. So, the affected children from South Africa are most welcome,” he said.

He concurred with Ms Dlamini that extraterritorial learners in the Zimbabwean education system would have their competencies assessed accordingly using set guidelines to determine the level of absorption of the curriculum the learner would have made to determine the grades that they would fall into. South Africa recognises the last grade of high school as Grade 12 or matriculation while Zimbabwe uses Upper Six as the last exit qualification for high school that ushers students into tertiary institutions.

Government is on record as saying it is anticipating a mass arrival of Zimbabweans from South Africa after the expiry of their permits.

“Cabinet would like to inform the public that mass deportations of undocumented Zimbabweans were expected from South Africa following the expiry of Zimbabwe Exemptions Permits (ZEP) which South Africa had granted them. However, most ZEP holders do not qualify for the outlined critical skills visas hence the low uptake (of applications for renewals). The Zimbabwean government has issued guidelines and regulations for returning residents which include one duty free vehicle and no limit to personal property,” Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Cde Monica Mutsvangwa is on record as saying.

Zimbabwean ZEP holders in the neighbouring country were given up to June to regularise their stay or face deportation. Reports indicate that about 178 000 could be forced to leave South Africa as they had not applied for further stay by end of November. –Sunday News

Biker Relates Encounter With Jaison Muvevi

EX CID officer Jaison Muvevi, who shot and killed three people in Wedza, has revealed that he crossed into Mozambique at night before hiring a motorcyclist to ferry him to Chimoio.

In another video, the unidentified motorcyclist described his encounter with Muvevi.

“Muvevi approached me and asked for a ride to Chimoio. He said he would pay me US$200. I realised that he had a gun after he pulled it out and pointed it on my back while he was seated on my bike. By then the police were following me, but I evaded them in Manica town. At one point I had convinced myself to take the risk of ferrying him to Chimoio. His offer of US$200 was too tempting for me.

“I later convinced him to board a kombi since there would be many people in the kombi. If he had insisted I had planned to jump off the motorbike at the police check point after Manica town and leave Muvevi to crush. He paid me for my services using our metical currency. He said he is a criminal in Zimbabwe and not Mozambique,” said the biker.

When asked why he wanted to go to Chimoio, Muvevi said: “I have never been to Chimoio and I wanted to see how the city looked like.”

Muvevi was extradited from Mozambique on Tuesday and was briefly detained in Mutare before being whisked away to Harare.

He appeared in court on Wednesday, with investigation officers applying for more time to wind up their investigations, including taking Muvevi to the crime scenes in Hwedza where he killed a police officer, Inspector Maxwell Hove; a prophet Mr Crispen Mubvana Kanerusine and a bar tender, Mr Munashe Mujanhi.

Muvevi Terror: Murdered Cop’s Mother Speaks …

The mother of the late Wedza officer in charge, Inspector Maxwell Hove, has stunningly revealed that her son attempted to flee from the murderous former CID officer Jaison Muvevi before he died.

She alleged that her son failed to flee from the marauding gunman when the door of his police car jammed, and he could not open it, leaving him dangerously exposed.

The distraught mother revealed these shocking details at her son’s burial in Chanda Village in Mberengwa.

In addition to the police car’s door failing to open, the grieving mother revealed that Inspector Hove’s gun allegedly jammed when he needed it the most. Due to his weapon malfunctioning at the critical moment, the unfortunate police officer was left defenceless and vulnerable.

At his funeral, Inspector Hove’s mother delivered an emotional eulogy. She appealed to the senior police officers and commanders to make sure that police officers are equipped with the best equipment available so that such casualties can be avoided.

The heartbroken mother lamented the possibility that her son could have survived the tragic shooting if he had been well-equipped with a functional police car and gun.

Following the death of the late Inspector Maxwell Hove, Police Commissioner General Godwin Matanga declared that the police will shoot to kill perpetrators of heinous crimes such as armed robbery.

The wife of the recently busted killer cop Jaison Muvevi came through in support of her hubby during his second appearance at the Harare Magistrate’s court on Friday.

Muvevi, who terrorised Wedza last week while on the run from the police appeared in court on Friday to be formally charged over the killing of three people in Wedza on January 13. He had been remanded in police custody as detectives needed more time with him to investigate some of his heinous crimes.

New developments have indicated that the triple homicide murder suspect will be charged with a fourth murder after it was revealed that there was an unsolved last year incident where Muvevi allegedly shot dead a man in Harare after a gold deal went sour.

While appearing before the magistrate on Friday morning, Muvevi’s wife came through to witness the proceedings.

She was captured entering the courts with some of Muvevi’s family members who were also there to witness the trial.

Media reports have also indicated that Muvevi’s family has also tried to reach out to his victims to ask for forgiveness.

It is alleged that Muvevi’s family through the chiefs in Wedza, Zanu Pf officials and the police paid $300 so far as part of the negotiation procedure to apologize on behalf of their son.

Muvevi went on a killing spree in Wedza last week killing three and injuring one. His recent arrest saw the Wedza community having a massive sigh of relief as they claim they had abandoned their homes in fear of the killer cop.

While intentions of his shooting spree are still clouded in mystery, there have been several theories as to how he found himself against the law.

Rumours allege that Muvevi went on a shooting spree after he got a disturbing prophecy about his wealth from his first victim Madzibaba Silence.

Unfounded claims have also put his wife at the centre of the prophecy, alleging that Madzibaba Silence had been in contact with the woman which led to Muvevi losing his temper.

After today’s court appearance, the police are expected to bring to light the reasons behind Muvevi’s senseless killings.- iHarare

Bulawayo’s 230 Condemned

The Bulawayo City Council (BCC) has condemned more than 230 of its facilities with an internal audit conducted recently revealing that if urgent measures are not taken to renovate a number of council buildings they will continue to deteriorate while others may face collapse.

Bulawayo

Although no specific inventory of the buildings was made available, it is suspected they include community social clubs, community halls, and housing offices. The internal audit confirmed that of the 1 100 facilities owned by the local authority, 21 percent of those were in a condemnable state owing to lack of periodic inspection of the buildings by council.

It was noted however, that the figure could have been higher if an independent assessment had been done by consultants, who would have given a professional opinion. According to the audit, a mere 32 percent of council-owned facilities are in a good state, needing minor repairs and maintenance, 47 percent are in moderate condition, requiring manageable repairs and 21 percent are in a bad state needing major maintenance.

Some of the defects identified include leaking roofs, rotten timber, falling roofs, ceilings, gutters, and fascia boards, rough floors, interior and exterior paint peeling off, cracks on walls and pavements, missing sockets for lights, broken doors, windows and some have no peg stays, burglar bars are broken, toilets with no covers, faulty flushing systems, cistern, sink, putty falling off, hanging electric wires and some live; and non-functional geysers and air conditioners.

Some of these neglected facilities- according to the audit- have been badly affected by vandalism with most of the interior having been stripped bare, including cisterns and sinks.

“The building and maintenance section has not undertaken any building condition assessment to systematically determine which buildings need to be repaired, replaced, or upgraded to conform to industry standards. Rather, the process has been one of selected and targeted repairs and refurbishment. Such a reactive approach is unlikely to be effective.

“Lack of data on city facilities (for example, replacement cost of each city facility) to enable full and accurate budgeting for planned maintenance. To maintain facilities at an acceptable level, industry standards recommend budgeting for maintenance and repair at two to four percent of the cost to replace the facility. Without such vital statistics, the city is likely to be under budgeting on planned maintenance,” reads the audit report.

The audit discovered that because of resource constraints, the building and maintenance section performs little planned maintenance, with availed resources channelled mostly towards corrective repairs.

“Best practices suggest planned maintenance should account for 70 percent of a department’s maintenance budget to adequately maintain the facilities. When corrective repairs consume 30 percent or more of the available resources, there are insufficient resources devoted to facilities maintenance.

“In the city, corrective repairs are the large majority of work activity performed by the building and maintenance section. As a result, the section cannot perform the necessary maintenance to prevent performance failures and ensure that the city’s facilities actually achieve their service life, in these circumstances, defects can occur, which may result in extensive and avoidable damage to the facilities,” reads the report.

The internal audit further noted that the deterioration in the city’s facilities was also as a result of staffing levels at the building and maintenance section, with the section having to contend with less than 50 percent of optimal staffing levels between 2012 and 2020.

“At present, it is still at less than half strength (48 percent). Added to the general staff shortages, the section remained without a substantive head for 18 years, from 2004 until 2022. Lack of transport is also inhibiting the movement of work teams.

“During our review, we observed that the section had one seven-tonne truck and two (one-tonne) trucks for executing its operations. Staff informed us that conflicts often arise due to the sharing of these scarce resources and contribute to the section’s inability to address maintenance requests in a timely manner,” reads the report.

The internal audit further unravelled that 86 percent of the BCC-owned facilities are at risk of catching fire due to outdated fire extinguishers or lack of servicing of fire extinguishers and fire sprinklers.

“We were informed, for example, that fire extinguishers at the Tower Block and Revenue Hall buildings were last serviced in 2014, increasing the risk of these buildings being extensively damaged in the event of a fire outbreak, in fact, early in the year, a fire sprinkler at a Revenue Hall office failed to detect the effect of fire leading to extensive damage of the office. We noted several facilities with electrical issues, for example, flickering or dimming lights, old wiring, loose or hanging wires, loose outlets, faulty appliances, and non-functional sockets. Such electric faults and exposures may cause short-circuiting leading to electrical fires,” reads the audit report.

Responding to the various issues raised by the internal audit, the director of housing and community services, Mr Dictor Khumalo, said their major hindrance was the issue of under-staffing and lack of resources to carry out the necessary works.

“Over and above a number of capital projects there is daily garden maintenance works conducted by the department subject to resource availability, such successes should be acknowledged in the audit report as they are factual and secondly, to motivate those who have worked tirelessly, brick by brick to develop Bulawayo and provide services to the community.

“The department has extra capacity to engage temporary labour and expertise to meet works requirements for capital projects to ensure timely project delivery however, this route is rarely used in view of inadequate projects funding. This partly explains why some maintenance projects remain unattended leading to infrastructure deterioration. It’s a funding issue,” said Mr Khumalo.-state media
