Slain Cop’s Mother Reveals How Son Tried To Avoid Muvevi Attack

The mother of the late Wedza officer in charge, Inspector Maxwell Hove, has stunningly revealed that her son attempted to flee from the murderous former CID officer Jaison Muvevi before he died.

She alleged that her son failed to flee from the marauding gunman when the door of his police car jammed, and he could not open it, leaving him dangerously exposed.

The distraught mother revealed these shocking details at her son’s burial in Chanda Village in Mberengwa.

In addition to the police car’s door failing to open, the grieving mother revealed that Inspector Hove’s gun allegedly jammed when he needed it the most. Due to his weapon malfunctioning at the critical moment, the unfortunate police officer was left defenceless and vulnerable.

At his funeral, Inspector Hove’s mother delivered an emotional eulogy. She appealed to the senior police officers and commanders to make sure that police officers are equipped with the best equipment available so that such casualties can be avoided.

The heartbroken mother lamented the possibility that her son could have survived the tragic shooting if he had been well-equipped with a functional police car and gun.

Following the death of the late Inspector Maxwell Hove, Police Commissioner General Godwin Matanga declared that the police will shoot to kill perpetrators of heinous crimes such as armed robbery.

The wife of the recently busted killer cop Jaison Muvevi came through in support of her hubby during his second appearance at the Harare Magistrate’s court on Friday.

Muvevi, who terrorised Wedza last week while on the run from the police appeared in court on Friday to be formally charged over the killing of three people in Wedza on January 13. He had been remanded in police custody as detectives needed more time with him to investigate some of his heinous crimes.

New developments have indicated that the triple homicide murder suspect will be charged with a fourth murder after it was revealed that there was an unsolved last year incident where Muvevi allegedly shot dead a man in Harare after a gold deal went sour.

While appearing before the magistrate on Friday morning, Muvevi’s wife came through to witness the proceedings.

She was captured entering the courts with some of Muvevi’s family members who were also there to witness the trial.

Media reports have also indicated that Muvevi’s family has also tried to reach out to his victims to ask for forgiveness.

It is alleged that Muvevi’s family through the chiefs in Wedza, Zanu Pf officials and the police paid $300 so far as part of the negotiation procedure to apologize on behalf of their son.

Muvevi went on a killing spree in Wedza last week killing three and injuring one. His recent arrest saw the Wedza community having a massive sigh of relief as they claim they had abandoned their homes in fear of the killer cop.

While intentions of his shooting spree are still clouded in mystery, there have been several theories as to how he found himself against the law.

Rumours allege that Muvevi went on a shooting spree after he got a disturbing prophecy about his wealth from his first victim Madzibaba Silence.

Unfounded claims have also put his wife at the centre of the prophecy, alleging that Madzibaba Silence had been in contact with the woman which led to Muvevi losing his temper.

After today’s court appearance, the police are expected to bring to light the reasons behind Muvevi’s senseless killings.- iHarare

About Malaria Prevention

Key facts

Malaria is a life-threatening disease caused by parasites that are transmitted to people through the bites of infected female Anopheles mosquitoes.

It is preventable and curable.

In 2021, there were an estimated 247 million cases of malaria worldwide.
The estimated number of malaria deaths stood at 619 000 in 2021.
The WHO African Region carries a disproportionately high share of the global malaria burden. In 2021, the region was home to 95% of malaria cases and 96% of malaria deaths. Children under 5 accounted for about 80% of all malaria deaths in the Region.
Overview

Malaria is an acute febrile illness caused by Plasmodium parasites, which are spread to people through the bites of infected female Anopheles mosquitoes. There are 5 parasite species that cause malaria in humans, and 2 of these species – P. falciparum and P. vivax – pose the greatest threat. P. falciparum is the deadliest malaria parasite and the most prevalent on the African continent. P. vivax is the dominant malaria parasite in most countries outside of sub-Saharan Africa.

The first symptoms – fever, headache and chills – usually appear 10–15 days after the infective mosquito bite and may be mild and difficult to recognize as malaria. Left untreated, P. falciparum malaria can progress to severe illness and death within a period of 24 hours.

In 2021, nearly half of the world’s population was at risk of malaria. Some population groups are at considerably higher risk of contracting malaria and developing severe disease: infants, children under 5 years of age, pregnant women and patients with HIV/AIDS, as well as people with low immunity moving to areas with intense malaria transmission such as migrant workers, mobile populations and travellers.

Disease burden
According to the latest World malaria report, there were 247 million cases of malaria in 2021 compared to 245 million cases in 2020. The estimated number of malaria deaths stood at 619 000 in 2021 compared to 625 000 in 2020.

Over the 2 peak years of the pandemic (2020–2021), COVID-related disruptions led to about 13 million more malaria cases and 63 000 more malaria deaths.

The WHO African Region continues to carry a disproportionately high share of the global malaria burden. In 2021 the Region was home to about 95% of all malaria cases and 96% of deaths. Children under 5 years of age accounted for about 80% of all malaria deaths in the Region.

Four African countries accounted for just over half of all malaria deaths worldwide: Nigeria (31.3%), the Democratic Republic of the Congo (12.6%), United Republic of Tanzania (4.1%) and Niger (3.9%).

Prevention
Over the last 2 decades, expanded access to WHO-recommended malaria prevention tools and strategies – including effective vector control and the use of preventive antimalarial drugs – has had a major impact in reducing the global burden of this disease.

Vector control
Vector control is a vital component of malaria control and elimination strategies as it is highly effective in preventing infection and reducing disease transmission. The 2 core interventions are insecticide-treated nets (ITNs) and indoor residual spraying (IRS).

Progress in global malaria control is threatened by emerging resistance to insecticides among Anopheles mosquitoes. As described in the latest World malaria report, other threats to ITNs include insufficient access, loss of nets due to the stresses of day-to-day life outpacing replacement, and changing behaviour of mosquitoes, which appear to be biting early before people go to bed and resting outdoors, thereby evading exposure to insecticides.

Preventive chemotherapies
Preventive chemotherapy is the use of medicines, either alone or in combination, to prevent malaria infections and their consequences. It requires giving a full treatment course of an antimalarial medicine to vulnerable populations (generally infants, children under 5 years of age and pregnant women) at designated time points during the period of greatest malarial risk, regardless of whether the recipients are infected with malaria.

Preventive chemotherapy includes perennial malaria chemoprevention (PMC), seasonal malaria chemoprevention (SMC), intermittent preventive treatment of malaria in pregnancy (IPTp) and school-aged children (IPTsc), post-discharge malaria chemoprevention (PDMC) and mass drug administration (MDA).

These safe and cost-effective strategies are intended to complement ongoing malaria control activities, including vector control measures, prompt diagnosis of suspected malaria, and treatment of confirmed cases with antimalarial medicines.

Vaccine
Since October 2021, WHO also recommends broad use of the RTS,S/AS01 malaria vaccine among children living in regions with moderate to high P. falciparum malaria transmission.

The vaccine has been shown to significantly reduce malaria, and deadly severe malaria, among young children.

Mnangagwa Dishes-Out US$350 000 To Spy Bosses

By-The Emmerson Mnangagwa government has reportedly given senior Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) directors US$350 000 housing loans each.

The Zanu PF government plants the secret police in the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC), where they assist the party in rigging elections.

The News Hawks reports citing an anonymous source saying that District Intelligence Officers will also be given backdated allowances. The source is quoted as saying:

There is a windfall for CIO. Senior directors who are regarded as deputy ministerial level are getting US$350 000 as housing allowances. District Intelligence Officers and above will get ZW$3 000 000, while those below have been given ZW$1 000 000 backdated allowances.

Besides that, an internal confidential circular has been written, saying no one is resigning. The memo basically says even those who have reached retirement can stay on until further notice.

This is a desperate bid to stop officers from quitting as they have been doing due to poor conditions of service. It’s also about elections.

The development comes barely months after reports that the cash-strapped government had given ministers US$500 000 and deputy ministers US$350 000 in housing allowances.

Members of Parliament were also allocated US$40 000 each in November last year, sparking a major outcry, especially against opposition MPs who were accused of joining the gravy train.

The loans totalled US$14 million for all 350 legislators.

Also late last year, the government began installing solar panels at the homes of more than 100 government officials, commissioners and service chiefs at the cost of US$14 000 per unit to cushion them from rolling nationwide power cuts lasting up to 18 hours.

Norton legislator, Temba Mliswa, said ministers’ loans were not budgeted for while MPs’ allowances were budgeted for.

Besides the US$40 000, MPs also got US$50 000 for cars, instead of US$80 000 which means there is “a balance of US$30 000.”

Analysts believe the loans are a strategy by the ruling ZANU PF to influence the outcome of the national elections scheduled for this year.

For decades now, ZANU PF has been accused of using state security forces to retain power by intimidating the electorate or manipulating the electoral processes.

The CIO and other security forces have agents in the whole electoral process, including at the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC), where the secretariat is headed by Utloile Silaigwana a former army officer. He took over as chief elections officer from the late Lovemore Sekeramayi, a former top CIO officer.

The UK Health Great Trek: Zim Women Fall Prey to the New Human Trafficking Snare

By Desmond Nleya | The current ‘great trek’ to the UK by most health professionals particularly the nurse aids have proved to be a death trap to most Zimbabwean women.

While the grass seems to be greener on the other side, revelations by ZimEye indicated modern slavery and serious manipulation where women are forced into marrying Nigerians and other nationals who use them to acquire documents in the UK.

Painfully, as alleged by some victims, Zimbabweans who own care homes are paid huge sums of money by Nigerians, to lure their relatives back home who will then be forced to be in a relationship with these conmen.

“People who own Care homes here are the ones acting as middlemen. They call their relatives back home and upon arrival, these relatives who are mostly women are given to Nigerians.

“Those Nigerians would have come to the UK using students visas and for them to acquire work visas, they take advantage of properly documented Zimbos who they quickly use to acquire proper documents. After having achieved this, the women would be dumped”, narrated one Zimbabwean known as Noma who is based in Manchester.

Apart from being made sex slaves, it has also been revealed by the Telegraph that some care workers are paid only half of their wages and are forced to live in squalor by unscrupulous middlemen who hold the other half of their wages.

“When you are working for an agency [in the UK], they pay you 50 per cent of your total salary,” said Jim Moyo*, who moved to the UK from Harare in November 2018 to work in a care home in Margate.

“You are getting paid £14 per hour, but then these guys will pay you £7.”He added that, once the tax was deducted, he was left with just £4 per hour for “rent, food and all sorts of expenses”.

“[The agency] tells you: ‘I paid for your accommodation, flights, visa, [I’m] your sponsor’. It’s like a hideous loan,” said Mr Moyo.

While Zimbabwe’s nurses have found work in Britain for years, hiring care workers is a new phenomenon, and experts told the Telegraph that a lucrative ecosystem of manipulation has been built around it.

“Exploitation does not start on arrival [in the UK],” said Hillary Musarurwa, a Zimbabwe-born social scientist in England.

“It starts during the application process [in Zimbabwe].

However regulation of these agencies is weak, and the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) suggested that – although it is unacceptable that some overseas-based agencies are charging fees to place candidates with jobs in Britain – their hands are tied because the actors are not under UK jurisdiction.

Voters’ Roll- ZEC Tells Political Parties To Go To Court

By A Correspondent- The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) says it will not comment on the request for the electronic voters roll until the courts have made a ruling on the matter.

Following Team Pachedu’s accusations of manipulation, civic society organisations, as well as political parties, have requested access to the computerized voters’ roll.

However, in a Twitter post, the commission said:

The issue concerning availing the electronic voters roll to those who request it is before the courts or sub-judice hence the commission will not comment on that matter until there is a court determination’

The Election Resource Centre (ERC), a local watchdog, is among the organisations that tried in vain to get a copy of the voters’ roll.

ERC said without the voters’ roll, it will be impossible to know if the boundaries created by the delimitation process have followed the law and if indeed votes are equal.

School Fees: President Indicates Left But Turn Right as Schools Defy His Directive

Dear

Recently, HE The President made pronouncements to the effect that school fees has been frozen and any headmaster who increases school fees was going to be arrested, obviously for defying HE The President. On Wednesday 18 January 2023 a meeting was called by Murowa school headmaster and the SDC for purposes of endorsing a scandalous and whooping 100% school fees denominated in USD. On being reminded of the President’s pronouncement regarding fees the Head stubbornly replied saying that he doesn’t take instructions from HE but from the ministry in the form of a circular.

First, surely HE must avoid making pronouncements that lack credibility. Zimbabweans are suffering and deserve seriousness not mere politicking and propaganda. Education is a fundamental right and should never be reduced to some joke. Parents have waited for far too long for the free basic education as enshrined in the constitution and promised by the government. No wonder headmasters are now defying and demeaning pronouncements by HE boasting of taking instructions from the ministry. Parents had welcomed the freeze in school fees considering the obtaining economic hardships and the fast approaching hunger and starvation. Murowa is one of the poorest ward and most crops in the fields are a total failure and here we have a ruthless and heartless headmaster pilling more miseries on poor parents and a President whose pronouncements are bring defied by his very subordinates. Is the President indicating left but turning right or he is being sabotaged?

Second, the increase by 100% is beyond imagination considering the stability of the USD. The Head raised issues to do with Wi-Fi, twitter, whatsapp, internet as part of his justification claiming that lack of these was the major cause of very low pass rate and transfer of teachers. Definitely such massive increases fuel inflation and deny a lot of pupils their right to education. The greatest surprise was that parents whose children are on BEAM sponsorship shamelessly endorsed this scandal and even went further to claim that they were going to buy their children smart phones. This alone is solid evidence that BEAM funds at Murowa are being abused and not assisting the needy. Most parents of these pupils under BEAM are either in committees or very close relatives of those in committees. The BEAM sponsorship at Murowa must be discontinued as it is being abused not benefiting the intended pupils. How can a child whose parent is gainfully employed and driving an expensive car be on BEAM? This is a tip of the iceberg on how BEAM funds are being misused and abused, probably typical of all government funds.

Finally Murowa school accounts must be audited for the Headmaster couldn’t explain how the money payed as fees is being used. Fact is a big chunk is being used to buy groceries for SDC members each time they pass by the school. So each time an SDC member wants bread and a drink they go to the school and send pupils home again in defiance of The President and violating the supreme law of Zimbabwe. The current SDC and the head are the supreme law themselves and its high time their wings be clipped. Murowa school has been reduced to a lawless fighting ground where teachers spend most hours arguing on politics, gossipin or fighting.
There is virtually no learning taking place due to lack of supervision especially at district level. This powerful head at any given time can send all the pupils back home without even a second of learning meaning these teachers are being paid for not teaching. Some teachers who have been at the school for many years claim that they are are untouchable hence they do as they wish

We therefore appeal to the highest office The Presidency to come to our rescue and save our kids’ the future leaders. Both the district and provincial offices have proved to be either toothless, incompetent or in complicit.

Cry poor parents

Muvhevhi Kills Another Person

By-Former CID officer and murder suspect Jaison Muvevi allegedly killed another person in Harare.

NewZimbabwe reports that Muvevi allegedly shot an unidentified man in the head “for no apparent reason” on November 19, 2021, in the Eastlea neighbourhood of Harare.

The court was informed that Muvevi was with two unidentified men, while the deceased was with one Nyasha Eusen.

Following the victim’s death, it is claimed that Muvevi and his accomplices pushed Eusen into their Toyota Allion and drove to the Huruyadzo Shopping Center in Chitungwiza. Eusen later managed to escape.

The court was also informed that Muvevi accidentally shot himself in the left elbow during the altercation.

Police found an x-ray report in his car he dumped following a shootout in the Hwedza area.

Arrest:

Muvevi was arrested this week in Mozambique in connection with the murder of three people on 13 January 2023 in Hwedza.

It is alleged Muvevi arrived at Crispen Kanerusine’s shrine while in the company of one Shupikai Muvevi.

He was dressed in all black against the church’s doctrine and was given a white cloth to cover himself with.

The court was further told Muvevi sat with other worshipers as Kanerusine delivered his sermon.

Muvevi suddenly went to his vehicle which was parked close to the shrine and came back with an FN browning pistol which he used to shoot the preacher once in the head.

After learning about the event, the Officer in Charge of Wedza Police Station, Inspector Maxwell Hove, assembled his response team and went to the shrine to conduct an investigation.

They met Muvevi along the Wedza-Murambinda High Way and blocked his vehicle intending to confront him.

Muvevi then started firing at them, hitting Hove three times in his head and the officer died on the spot.

He also shot Constable Tendai Mugova in the stomach and on his pelvis.

Muvevi made a U-turn and drove towards Murambinda business centre where he shot and killed Munashe Munjani after a brief chat with him.

On January 14 Muvevi went to Mutare boys high school where he fired three shots but missed the second complainant who had refused to give him food.

Muvevi then skipped the border and was arrested the following day in Mozambique.

Bulawayo Couple Duped By A Wedding Planner

By- A Bulawayo couple’s wedding almost became a nightmare after discovering that their wedding planner had sold them a dummy.

A wedding planner is generally described as a professional who assists with the design, planning and management of a client’s wedding.
Because weddings are significant events in people’s lives, couples are often willing to spend top dollar to ensure their weddings are well-organised.
It wasn’t the case for Tinashe Chihanya (29) and his-would-be bride Shifra Calder Chihanya (27).
Despite spending a significant amount of money for their dream day, the happy couple found out three days before the wedding that they had hired a ‘scammer’ for a wedding planner.
It almost ended in tears for the couple.
The venue, décor and catering teams had not been paid, despite assurances from the wedding planner– Mercy Chiurunga– that everything was going according to plan, says Chihanya.
“Sometime in June last year, as we were making preparations for our wedding, I stumbled on an advertisement on Facebook about a wedding planner named Mercy Chiurunga, who had posted impressive posts on décor and wedding works she had done for previous clients.
“I contacted her and we set up an appointment and she showed me some video clips of her previous work and I was very satisfied.
“Her prices were also affordable so I did not think twice about hiring her as our wedding planner,” Chihanya narrated to B-Metro.
Chihanya says he handed R20 000 to Chiurunga as a part payment for the venue, décor and catering over several months.
The balance would be paid a day after the wedding, according to an agreement that the client and service provider had entered into.
“I made the first deposit in July, the second in October and then the other payment in early December, a few weeks before the wedding day, and she brought invoices with a 3 December 2022 date stamp confirming that the venue had been secured.
“Three days before my wedding, I contacted the owner of the venue just to cross check if everything was in order but I was shocked to discover that my wedding planner had not booked the venue.
“In, fact another wedding was scheduled to be held at that same venue on the day of our wedding,” he said.
An infuriated Chihanya promptly contacted the wedding planner to get to the bottom of the thorny issue.
“She still insisted that she had paid for the venue and even sent fake receipts as proof of payment via her mobile phone. The owner of the venue then showed me the kind of receipts that they give their clients and they (receipts) were totally different from the ones I was shown by my wedding planner,” he added. It quickly dawned on the would-be-groom that he had been taken for a ride.
The scammer had been busted.
“I tried to meet her in person to sort out the issue but she was very evasive and due to the huge amount of pressure I was under, my relatives advised me to book another venue, find another décor and catering team so that the wedding could go on.
“To this day I still haven’t received my money from the wedding scammer as she has been making excuse after excuse,” said Chihanya.
The alleged wedding scammer disputed that she owed Chihanya R20 000 for services unrendered but acknowledged the two did enter into an agreement.
“Yes, I ended up failing to render my services due to circumstances that were beyond my control but I owe him US$650 not the R20 000 that he claims. I have a few clients who still owe me some money and as soon as they pay, I will also pay him.
“I’m an honest wedding planner who has dealt with many happy clients and I regret what happened to him,” she told this publication before terminating the call.
Efforts to get more clarity drew blanks as her mobile phone went unanswered. B Metro

Oscar Pambuka Slapped With A 6 Year Jail Term

By- Courts in Harare Friday jailed former ZBC Television presenter and news anchor Oscar Pambuka for six years for fraud.

Pambuka and former Highfield Member of Parliament Psychology Maziwisa were last year convicted of fraud and were supposed to go to jail for two years and six months each. Instead, “they disappeared,” The Herald reported.
Pambuka was this week convicted in another case of fraud and remanded in custody for sentencing, while Maziwisa has not been accounted for and is still on a warrant of arrest.
The courts activated Pambuka’s warrant of arrest following his conviction at Mbare magistrates’ court. He was yesterday brought before High Court judge Justice Pisirayi Kwenda for a default inquiry and was committed to prison.
Pambuka and Maziwisa were initially convicted of two counts of fraud and each sentenced to six years and five months in prison.
However, they will only serve two years and six months each after the rest of the term was conditionally suspended.
What happened:
i). They were fraudulently awarded a tender to do public relations work for ZESA Holdings by former Energy minister Samuel Undenge at a time the power utility had its own functional public relations department. ZESA’s subsidiary, the Zimbabwe Power Company (ZPC), lost over US$12 000 in that deal.

Killer Ex-Cop’s Family Begs Victim’s Family For Forgiveness

The family of killer cop, Jaison Muvevi yesterday approached two families of the three victims that he shot dead in Hwedza last week and apologised for the heinous crime.

They roped in police details, local traditional leaders, and Zanu PF officials to engage the bereaved families.

The negotiating team, led by Jaison’s cousin brother Bornface Mudzamiri first visited the late Munashe Mujanhi’s family, in Musekanehuku village where they apologised and sought to mend bridges.

The Muvevi family paid US$300 as per tradition to kickstart the negotiations as well as to admit that their son erred by committing a serious offence.

Later they visited the home of the late Madzibaba Silage (real name Crispen Kanerusine) where they also met the family elders and apologised.

Tempers, however, flared as the Kanerusine family demanded the presence of the accused’s mother.

“Where is Jaison’s mother? She should be here. She was close to Madzibaba Silage, they worshipped together and why did she fail to come and bid farewell to him?” charged Madzibaba Silage’s relative.

The accused’s mother reportedly stays in Mutare.

A sombre atmosphere engulfed Madzibaba Silage’s homestead in Zinzombe village as thousands of apostolic sect members, villagers and politicians among others paid their last respects to the revered faith healer.

The Muvevis then paid US$300 as funeral contribution to Madzibaba Silage’s family.  But at first the family resisted the payment.

It took popular apostolic sect leader Madzibaba Simbarashe Nengomasha to convince the family to accept the money.

The Kanerusine family also told the Muvevi family to go back and seek assistance from the local traditional leaders on the procedures to be followed on avenging the spirit of the deceased.

Mudzamiri told NewsDay that they had to visit the bereaved families to open doors for dialogue.

“We are the family; we admit the wrongs done by our son. We are here to mend bridges and see how best we can deal with this issue. We are truly sorry for what happened, and we want the families of the victims to accept our sincere apologies,” he said.

The accused’s family is also set to travel to Mberengwa, Midlands province, to initiate dialogue with the family of the third victim, Maxwell Hove, a Hwedza top cop who was also gunned down.

Nengomasha, a leader of the Johane Masowe Chishanu Canaan, said the gesture by the Muvevi family was commendable.

“As sect leaders we say they have to be here to at least start the process of avenging the spirit of the deceased persons. As neighbours or the society, we need to reach a consensus, we pray for peace, what has happened will not be reversed, it’s a single person, Jaison who did all this but his family has come; hence the need to reach a consensus and move on,” he said.

Muvevi was arrested on Monday in Mozambique while fleeing from justice. He appeared at the Harare Magistrates Court yesterday charged with illegal possession of firearms. He was remanded in custody to tomorrow.

The murders were triggered by accusations that he was involved in rituals and occultism.

Teenage CCC Member’s Trial Separated From 25 Others

The bail application for the 26 Citizens Coalition for Change activists including legislators Amos Chibaya (Mkoba) and Costa Machingauta (Budiriro) who are accused for gathering with the intent to cause public violence has been postponed to today by Harare magistrate Yeukai Dzuda.

They are represented by Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum lawyers.

Dzuda also ruled in favour of the application for the proceedings to be held in camera in respect of a 17-year-old girl implicated in the matter.  She was released into the custody of her guardians and was remanded to February 3.

This means that her trial will be separated from the rest of the accused persons.

She is being represented by lawyers from the Justice for Children Trust.

Allegations are that on January 14, 2023, the accused persons responded to an invitation for a CCC meeting in Harare. The invitation was allegedly circulated on various social media platforms by one Lancelot Tungwarara. Last Saturday, the activists who were clad in their party regalia gathered at Machingauta’s house.

“While at the gathering, the accused persons chanted CCC political party slogan Ngaapinde hake Mukomana, 2023, Chamisa chete chete”meaning “let the boy get in, 2023 Chamisa only,” the State said.

It is State’s case that police in Budiriro received a tip off that the accused were gathered and went to investigate.

“Upon arrival at the scene of crime, the police observed that the accused’s conduct was disturbing the peace of a section of members of the public. The police ordered the accused persons to disperse but they resisted leading to their arrest.”

Leave Me Alone, Makandiwa Tells Zimbabweans

United Family International Church (UFIC) founder Emmanuel Makandiwa says people must mind their own business and leave him alone after attracting attention with his purchase of a US$300 000 luxury vehicle.

Makandiwa said the luxurious 2023 BMW 7-Series was “cheap” to him and that his multimillion-dollar mansion in an exclusive suburb in the capital was also “cheap”.

“How do I respond to people when someone asks, what do you think of a prophet who buys an expensive car?  If I had to tell you what to say, you are not the right person to defend me. I would rather have that person ask me because I have never in my life bought an expensive car. If it was expensive, I would not have even bought it,” Makandiwa said while giving a sermon at his church in Chitungwiza.

“The problem is it is expensive to you. It’s your money that you want to use to buy what I have bought. So, the term expensive, whose term is that? I am smart enough to know when the product is expensive and I will not buy it because I can’t. Have I stopped sending my children to school because of a house that I have built?”

The maverick preacher also revealed that he has multiple forms of income.  He said that being cheap or expensive depends on someone’s income.

“How do you measure that this shoe is expensive? How much is an expensive phone? If I see you starving while you have an iPhone 14, then I know that you bought an expensive phone,” he added.

Makandiwa said he is not only good at preaching, but he also has business acumen.

“You don’t have to tell people what to do with their money. Some people think I am just good at preaching, but I am also good at business strategy. I have lots of products that I sell. People should learn to mind their business,” he said.

Videos of the maroon BMW coming out of Makandiwa’s luxurious Shawasha Hills mansion have also gone viral on social media platforms. The car also has a traffic jam assist function.

An internet search of the vehicle shows that the first variants of the new 7 Series made their way into the market in November 2022 after commencing production at the brand’s Dingolfing plant in Germany in July of the same year.

Govt Set To Miss 2023 Growth Projects

Government is likely to miss its 2023 growth projections, Zimbabwe Coalition on Debt and Development (Zimcodd) has said.

It noted that the upcoming elections will be the biggest factor undermining growth.

Zimbabwe’s elections are usually characterised by political violence.

Other risks include a volatile currency.

The year 2022 presented a bag of mixed economic fortunes, with the local currency greatly losing steam in the first half of the year.

In its Zimbabwe 2023 economic outlook, Zimcodd said the nation was already under the grip of a crippling debt crisis at a time when interest rates have been rising.

The ongoing global financial tightening is expected to increase the cost of accessing new borrowing lines as well as the cost of servicing existing debts.

“The election year has also forced Treasury to table an unsustainable expansionary fiscal policy as evidenced by an approved budget with a staggering deficit of about $575 billion which will be financed by borrowing and money printing,” it said.

“The injection of excessive Zimbabwe dollar liquidity through election-linked government spending will likely destabilise the exchange rate, particularly on the parallel market. The continued piling of highly regressive taxes by Treasury in a bid to improve the gravely limited fiscal space will also increase transaction costs thus choking economic agents particularly the poor and marginalised.”

Zimcodd added that if uncontrolled through a robust reform programme and capacitation of oversight institutions, the prevailing structural rigidities posed by corruption, impunity, and illicit transactions would continue to exert massive pricing distortions, thus constraining economic activity.

Although the Hwange Thermal Power Station expansion project, with a capacity to add a combined 600 megawatts to the national grid is progressing as expected, energy shortages are seen persisting at least through the first half of 2023 due to low live water storage at Kariba Dam and forex shortages to supplement domestic production with imports.

Zimcodd said inadequate national reserves exposed the Zimbabwe dollar to speculative attacks and the nation to unforeseen adverse events like climate change-induced droughts, floods, and disease outbreaks.

“While the mining sector is expected to continue blossoming anchored by high global commodity prices and global demand, the prevailing unsustainable fiscal mining regimes will continue to facilitate revenue leakages at the expense of national development,” Zimcodd added.

Vincent Tsvangirai Dismisses Claims He Has Joined Zanu PF

By A Correspondent| Opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) legislator, Vincent Tsvangirai, has poured cold water on rumors circulating that he has jumped ship to join the ruling party, Zanu-PF.

Thursday, social media was awash with rumours that Tsvangirai – son of MDC founding member, the late Morgan Tsvangirai- had joined Zanu-PF as a sign of displeasure against MDC leader, Douglas Mwonzora.

Tsvangirai had been rumoured to be among alleged opposition members who had deferred to Zanu-PF.

Tsvangirai rebuffed the rumours,  labelling them as “cheap political gimmick” from Zanu-PF members.

“I am just as surprised as everyone else. I just saw a small circular on social media. The next thing I saw was Zanu-PF running with it. I have not spoken to anyone from Zanu-PF that I am interested in joining them or anything like that,” said Vincent Tsvangirai.

Rumors come on the back of MDC having been plunged into turmoil as factionalism and discontent rocks the erstwhile main opposition party.

Earlier this week, MDC leadership suspended senior members of the party over “gross misconduct”.

The seven suspended members have been vocal against Mwonzora, who usurped power from Thokozani Khupe in controversial circumstances.

The senior members denounced last month’s underwhelming congress, accusing Mwonzora of dictatorial practices.

Tsvangirai said he had been roped into the Zanu-PF five million votes agenda by “overzealous” supporters.

“It is not a secret that I have been very critical about Mwonzora for some time now. I also have been critical of the congress, well the supposed congress. I am not too bothered about it. I have had accusations of going to Zanu-PF. I am not bothered by it. Why would I go to Zanu-PF? What is there for me? ” he said.

20 Years For Raping Brother’s Daughter

A 50-year-old Bindura man was sentenced to 20 years in jail after he raped his brother’s daughter.

The man (name withheld) who pleaded guilty to the charge will however spend 17 years in jail after the magistrate  Shingira Mutiro suspended three years on condition of good behaviour.

Prosecutors told the court that on January 13 he raped his brother’s daughter who dodged her mother to ask for cucumbers at the convict’s house.

The convict persuaded the minor to have sex with him and she agreed.

He raped her once and bought her silence with cucumbers.

When the minor went to her mother’s place she never told anyone.

The matter came to light on January 16 when the girl was sent to collect salt at the convict’s house and she refused saying she was raped.

The mother escorted the minor to the police station to file a police report leading to the arrest of the  convict.

Cross Dete Community Chases Away Five ‘Incompetent’ Teachers

Parents and guardians with children at Ndangababi Primary School at Cross Dete in Hwange District have chased away five teachers accusing them of incompetence, insubordination and disrespecting traditional and community leaders.

The teachers who were shown the door were only identified as Messrs N T Ngwenya, Maphosa, Ndaguta, Ms Sigauke, and Ms Chisiwa.

Parents and guardians alleged that the teachers hardly conducted lessons as they spent most of their time conducting private business.

Ms Chisiwa is being accused of spending time selling second-hand clothes at Cross Dete Business Centre.

Parents also expressed concern over a sharp drop in the school’s pass rate from 21 percent four years ago to five percent last year and blamed the teachers.

The school development committee convened a meeting which was attended by parents, traditional leaders, representatives of the Dete Residents Association and officials from the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education last Friday.

The meeting resolved that the five teachers should leave the school and were given up to Monday to vacate the school premises.

Officials from the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education told the meeting that the affected teachers will be transferred to other schools.

Initially, 11 teachers were targeted, but the others survived after engagements and the community reportedly agreed to give them a second chance after they publicly apologised.

It is alleged that the school head, one Mr G Ngwenya was having challenges supervising them while the school development committee (SDC) also struggled to execute its duties.

Parents last year wrote a petition to the ministry and took it to Chief Dingane-Nelukoba who endorsed it. Following delays by the ministry to attend to the matter, the community decided to take the matter into its own hands.

With the help of the residents association, the SDC convened a meeting last Friday. During the meeting, parents told ministry officials that the teachers allegedly insult traditional leaders and villagers whenever efforts were being made to engage them.

Two school heads have left the school in the past 10 years after a fallout with the teachers.

Some parents have withdrawn their children from the school and transferred them to others.

Enrolment at Ndangababi Primary School dropped from 627 last year to 512 this term.

The SDC chairperson Mr Barnabas Tshuma said there was nothing personal against the teachers. He said the community was angered by their behaviour and lack of commitment to work.

“We have a problem at the school as teachers don’t respect the head, parents and traditional leaders. The pass rate has also gone down and some parents are now withdrawing their children,” said Mr Tshuma.

“Villagers wrote a petition to the Ministry and the Chief approved it. We then approached the Dete Residents Association for help and that is when the ministry was invited last Friday to attend the meeting.”

Chief Dingane-Nelukoba said he is worried about the situation at the school.

“I sent my two headmen to go and meet the two parties and what worries me is that teachers have been saying they can’t listen to uneducated people. When parents brought their petition for stamping I pleaded with them to give the teachers a second chance, but it didn’t work,” he said.

Dete Residents Association chairperson Mr Douglas Mpofu said: “We looked at the cases of each teacher separately and we recommended that the SDC engages some of them who we believed were under the influence of the seniors and it worked.”

Mr Mpofu said when he approached the school head, he established that parents had raised complaints against the teachers.

Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education spokesperson Mr Taungana Ndoro said he was yet to get a report from the Matabeleland North provincial education director.

Notorious Bouncers In Major Set Bail Application Setback

Notorious bouncers, who allegedly terrorized imbibers at several night spots in Harare, received a setback in their case after a High Court judge dropped their bail appeal when their lawyer failed to turn up in court.

High Court judge Justice Munamato Mutevedzi struck of the roll the matter of Gideon Sanyangore and Blessing Kumunda after their lawyer failed to show up on Wednesday.

Sanyangore and Kumunda are being charged with attempted murder after they drew a knife at a popular night spot, Pabloz in Borrowdale, Harare.

The duo’s initial bail attempt was denied by magistrate Stanford Mambanje and more charges against them were added.

The State submitted that there was no communication from the lawyer before pushing for the matter to be struck off the roll.

The duo was arrested after a video of them assaulting patronsand swinging a knife that reportedly stabbed another bouncer’shands last December, went viral on social media.

After the Pabloz attack, several music promoters, night club owners and revellers complained about their conduct.

In another video clip, Sanyangore was seen splashing beer on a patron’s face before slapping him unprovoked at Mashwede in Glen View.

The pair also faces a number of assault and public violence conduct cases committed at several entertainment events where they manned entrances and collected gate charges.

It is claimed that they pocketed the money and boasted that they were untouchable. Sanyangore and Kumunda will come to court on January 31, for routine remand.

SA Police Burst Kidnapping Gang

By- Police have rescued a kidnapping victim was rescued in the Gauteng suburb of Mayfield, on the East Rand, during a predawn raid, Thursday.

Police arrested six men, including the owner of the house where the victim was held.

The business owner was kidnapped in the Johannesburg suburb of Jeppe nearly two weeks ago. He has been reunited with his family, police spokesperson Brig Athlenda Mathe said.

The wife of the homeowner told TimesLIVE Investigations she had no knowledge of the victim being in her home as she had been at a sangoma initiation school for six weeks.

The woman, who cannot be named as this would identify her husband, said she did not know her husband was allegedly part of a kidnapping syndicate.

“He would come and visit me at the school to drop off money and food for my upkeep, but he never said anything to me. I am shocked and angry,” she said.

The Mayfield, East Rand, house where six men were arrested in connection with the kidnapping of a businessman on January 7. The victim was kept here for several days before being rescued by police.

Image: Tankiso Makhetha

She was informed by a community member that police had raided her home.

Neighbours interviewed by TimesLIVE Investigations on Thursday said the house had been a hub of activity in recent days with a variety of expensive vehicles pulling up regularly.

A neighbour, who asked not to be named, said they became suspicious of the activity because the owner of the house, who had moved there with his wife two years ago, did not own any vehicles.

According to the neighbour, the police surrounded the house at about 5am on Thursday.

Heavily armed officers scaled the walls and arrested five men inside the house without firing a shot.

When TimesLIVE Investigations arrived at the scene, six suspects were bound and sitting under a tree under police guard while officers gathered evidence at the property.

The businessman, who sources said was an Ethiopian national, was allegedly kidnapped from his vehicle after leaving his business in Jeppe on January 7. According to a source, his vehicle was found abandoned with the ignition still running after he was apparently forced off the road.

Twenty cellphones and three GPS tracking devices were seized, along with five vehicles.

Image: SAPS

Among the items seized by police were 20 cellphones and three GPS tracking units.

Police also seized five luxury vehicles, some of which are new:

  • a Mercedes-Benz E350;
  • a Mercedes-Benz A200;
  • a 2023 Mini Cooper Countryman;
  • a Toyota Urban Cruiser; and
  • a BMW X4.

Mathe said a police contingent comprising various units, led by crime intelligence and organised crime members, had been conducting surveillance on the syndicate and have linked them to more than 16 cases of kidnappings in Gauteng where ransom demands were being made.

She said the team led by the special task force and hostage negotiators conducted operations at various addresses in Gauteng including Jeppe, Helderwyk, Brackenhurst and Daveyton before locating the victim.

The suspects are expected to appear in court soon on charges of kidnapping and extortion.

South African police and Interpol members arrested alleged transnational kidnapping kingpin Esmael Nangy earlier this month in Centurion, Gauteng. Nangy, a Mozambican national, is believed to form part of a large Mozambican syndicate behind some of South Africa’s kidnapping and extortion cases.

British PM Rish Sunak Fined For Not Wearing Seat Belt

By- British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has been fined for not wearing a seatbelt in a moving car while filming a social media video.

Lancashire Police said it had issued a 42-year-old man from London with a conditional offer of a fixed penalty.

No 10 said Mr Sunak “fully accepts this was a mistake and has apologised”, adding that he would pay the fine.

Passengers caught failing to wear a seat belt when one is available can be fined £100.

This can increase to £500 if the case goes to court.

The prime minister was in Lancashire when the video was filmed, during a trip across the north of England.

The video – to promote the government’s latest round of “levelling up” spending– was posted on Mr Sunak’s Instagram account.

It is the second time Mr Sunak has received a fixed penalty notice while in government.

Last April, he was fined along with Boris Johnson and wife Carrie for breaking Covid lockdown rules – by attending a birthday gathering for the then-prime minister in Downing Street in June 2020.

‘Disregard for the rules’

Fixed penalty notices are a sanction for breaking the law, and mean a fine, which needs to be paid within 28 days, or contested.

If someone chooses to contest the fine, the police will then review the case and decide whether to withdraw the fine or take the matter to court.

The Liberal Democrats said, in becoming the second ever serving prime minister to be fined by police, he had “shown the same disregard for the rules as Boris Johnson”.

Deputy Lib Dem leader Daisy Cooper said: “From partygate to seatbelt gate, these Conservative politicians are just taking the British people for fools.

“Whilst they continue to behave as though it’s one rule for them and another for everyone else, this fine is a reminder that the Conservatives eventually get their comeuppance.”

But earlier Conservative MP for Blackpool South Scott Benton suggested Lancashire Police were wasting their time by looking into the incident.

“The vast majority of people would think that politically motivated complaints about a seatbelt are not good use of frontline resources,” he said.

Passengers aged 14 and over are responsible for ensuring they wear a seat belt in cars, vans and other goods vehicles if one is fitted. Drivers are responsible for passengers under 14.

Exemptions include having a doctor’s certificate for a medical reason, or being in a vehicle used for a police, fire or other rescue service.

On January 17, 2023, the Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition (CiZC) hosted a Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) Indaba on the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) Delimitation Process and the general political environment ahead of the 2023 general elections.

The CSOs Indaba sought to interrogate the technical aspects of the 2023 general elections as well as the general political environment and implications on the credibility of the upcoming polls.

The CSOs Indaba noted the following;

  1. Participants noted that while the ZEC delimitation process is fraught with irregularities and remains part of a broader scheme by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) to rig elections in favour of the ruling party, ZANU PF, it remains part of a broader scheme to tilt the electoral environment in favour of ZANU PF
  2. ZEC remains captured and continues to work as an appendage of ZANU PF and this points out to discredited elections in 2023. In some areas of the country, there has been a deliberate attempt to frustrate potential voters and a huge number of citizens remain disenfranchised
  3. Electoral reforms remain a pipe dream in Zimbabwe with the country’s elections failing to meet guidelines of the African Charter on Elections, Democracy and Governance. Zimbabwe is yet to implement recommendations from previous Electoral Observer Missions including recommendations of the Motlanthe Commission of Inquiry relating to the conduct of credible elections. This points to yet another illegitimate election in 2023
  4. Zimbabwe continues to witness political violence which is being perpetrated by the ruling ZANU PF against the country’s major opposition party, the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) and this has created an uneven playing field with the State making concerted efforts to ban opposition events. Selective application of the law has resulted in ruling party activists perpetrating violence with impunity. Traditional leaders and war veterans continue to openly campaign for ZANU PF while threatening violence against the opposition against the dictates of the constitution
  5. Ahead of the 2023 elections, the country continues to witness law fare against opposition activists while law enforcement agents continue to conduct themselves in a partisan manner and this continues to dent the credibility of the 2023 polls
  6. The public media remains biased towards the ruling party and this again is against recommendations from previous Election Observer Missions
  7. There is a deliberate attempt to undermine, underfund and capture the Independent Commissions which were created to support democracy in Zimbabwe. These include the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC), the Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission (ZHRC), the National Peace and Reconciliation Commission (NPRC), the Zimbabwe Gender Commission (ZGC) and the Zimbabwe Media Commission (ZMC). The role of these Commissions to contribute towards credible elections in 2023 has largely been compromised.
  8. Issues around access to the voters’ roll point to a deliberate attempt to rig the 2023 elections and expose the collusion between ZEC and ZANU PF

Resolutions and Way Forward

  • The CSOs Indaba noted that issues relating to the technical aspects and the general political environment point to yet another flawed election that will certainly fail the credibility test and thus result in yet another legitimacy crisis in Zimbabwe.
  • Events currently obtaining on the ground point to yet another bloody election in 2023 and Zimbabwe is not prepared for free, fair and credible polls. There is a deliberate attempt by the State to entrench authoritarianism and move towards a one party state.
  • In light of the above-mentioned challenges, the Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition shall continue with mobilization efforts at the grassroots level to empower citizens to demand free, fair and credible polls. This includes ensuring that citizens reject a flawed process with pre-determined outcomes.
  • The Coalition shall intensify advocacy campaigns at the regional and international level and this also includes pushing for long-term observer missions ahead of the 2023 elections.

Zimbabweans Implicated In SA Foiled Jail Break

By-Diligent Kgosi Mampuru Prison guards foiled what correctional services suspects would have been a prisoner escape on Tuesday.
National prisons boss Makgothi Samuel Thobakgale said officials on a daily inspection of cells in the maximum prison’s unit A discovered that window grills in a cell had been hacked with a saw, and immediately reported their discovery.
The cell housed two Zimbabwean nationals sentenced in June and July to 17 and 14 years in prison.
Thobakgale said correctional services suspected that the two compromised the window grills to further their escape plot.
He said Emmanuel Muchandizwa is serving 17 years for robbery and being in the country illegally while Thembani Mudau is serving 14 years for housebreaking and robbery.
“I received an incident report – which we receive on a 15-minute interval – that two inmates in unit A, for maximum offenders, had comprised window bars.
“Our officials, who run standard operating procedures such as testing doors, bars and windows, found the damage that could have led to a potential escape.”
Thobakgale did not disagree that the window bars were cut overnight, but alluded to the possibility that wardens and a member of the public “using visitation hours” were party to the plot.
“The investigation would reveal more,” he said, adding that after the discovery of the cut bars “six blades were located” in the cell.

National prisons boss Makgothi Thobakgale and his officials visit Kgosi Mampuru prison on Wednesday.
He said the inmates confessed that the “contraband blades were planted in sneakers and brought in from outside”.
He said normally the inspection is by different officials on a shift basis.
“This is the reason why we sometimes witness escapes.”
He said some wardens had been caught assisting prisoners before and disciplined, often their employment was terminated.
“Some wardens do not carry out their duties, however, the officials that were on duty [on Tuesday] did what they were expected to do, which led to the discovery of the tampered-with infrastructure.”
He said that often visiting relatives aided prison escapes.
“Members of the public, families that come and visit are the ones that also comprise our security systems. We have found contraband such as saws buried in the soles of sneakers, which are items used for escapes, such as this incident.”
Thobakgale said the department would intensify inmate and visitor searches and appealed to visitors to allow this thorough search, and for patience.
He said the two inmates were being monitored post their attempted escape and further offences would be added to their criminal record.
“They are in prison for rehabilitation programmes and their sentence plans will be looked at again.”
He said a police investigation was underway to uncover what led to the potential escape and tampering with government infrastructure.
He said the correctional services would look at employing more warders as the inmate population increased.

“We have 156 000 inmates in our correctional centres, an increase from 151 000 in November 2022.”
He said correctional services processes were slow, but 3 000 officials were currently being recruited.
He said currently fewer than 40 000 officials manned prisons.
“Of the 40 000, a quarter is looking at challenges of escapes, so we need more capacity to be able to foil escapes.”
He said one of the problems at correctional services was infrastructure, but applauded the officials who foiled the potential escape for a job well done.

Angry ANC Members Disrupt Conference

By- A group of angry ANC members in the Free State province has disrupted the party’s elective, forcing the halt of the registration process.

Provincial ANC interim provincial committee (IPC) spokesperson Oupa Khoabane said: “Registration for the conference has temporarily been suspended. Notification will be made once the time for resumption has been concluded.”

TimesLIVE previously reported that last year the Free State and Western Cape were the only two provinces that could not convene their conferences before the party’s national conference last month.

The countless delays in the Free State were credited to clashes between branches still beholden to former Free State strongman Ace Magashule and branches pushing the renewal agenda.

National executive committee member David Mahlobo said he was in a meeting dealing with the issues that had led to the temporary suspension of the conference.

Earlier on Friday, Mahlobo conceded that the lead-up to the conference had not been smooth.

“We know that the structures in this province had to be reconstituted from scratch from branch, regional and until this provincial level where we are at. We are satisfied by the work of the IPC that they have done in terms of putting interim committees in branches and all of these branches now have proper structures in place. But the road has not been smooth or easy,” he said.

“There are a number of instances in a number of regions where there are claims and allegations of parallel branches. The other allegation being made is the tampering with the delegates that are supposed to attend the conference.

“We need to indicate that there has been a credentials committee that the IPC has worked with, our team of officials in head office and NEC members including Dina Pule, Pinky Kekana and Mzwandile Masina. They have dealt with all the branches which had those issues and we are satisfied that these matters have been dealt with to our satisfaction.”

Mahlobo added: “We had planned that we would have done preregistration by yesterday [Thursday] and concluded our registration before lunch today before conference starts, but … there are issues of some people claiming they might have been excluded. But the leadership of the NEC, working with the IPC and regional leaders, are attending to those issues.”

He appealed for the conference to be allowed to continue without disruptions.

“We want comrades to avoid confrontation and conflict. Nobody is going to be left behind. Legitimate people who are supposed to attend conference will attend.”

Oscar Pambuka Caged For 6 Years

By-Former ZBC Television presenter and news anchor Oscar Pambuka has been jailed for six years for fraud.

Pambuka and former Highfield Member of Parliament Psychology Maziwisa were last year convicted of fraud and were supposed to go to jail for two years and six months each but instead, “they disappeared,” The Herald reported.
Pambuka was this week convicted in another case of fraud and remanded in custody for sentencing while Maziwisa has not been accounted for and is still on a warrant of arrest.
ZESA’s subsidiary, the Zimbabwe Power Company (ZPC), lost over US$12 000 in that deal.
ii). Pambuka attempted to defraud a Harare-based transporter of R36 000 after misrepresenting to him that he was Croco Motors director Mr Chingwena and wanted advance money to pay for shipment of his motor spare parts in South Africa. He was found guilty in this case on Wednesday.
Pambuka’s alleged accomplices, Ngonidzashe Mbauya and Elmore Mwenye, were cleared and acquitted of the charges.

ZEC Announces 2023 Election Dates

The Zimbabwe electronic commission has announced the dates for the 2023 elections.

The detail was revealed by ZEC’s Chairperson Priscilla Chigumba on Friday morning. She declared the dates while receiving Parliament’s delimitation report recommendations.

ZANU PF President Emmerson Mnangagwa said he will hand over his submissions next week.
“I am handing this report which I received yesterday from Parliament, they have gone further to compile debate in Parliament which will give you an insight into the report. These are only Parliament views, but I will present mine on Monday,” he said.

Justice Priscilla Chigumba said the commission will deliberate on the recommendations.

‘‘We will gather as a commission to look at all recommendations and look at those that we can accede to and those we can’t accede to and we will compile our own report for His Excellency, the President and state our reasons for acceding to some recommendations and not acceding to others. We are going to take a look at all recommendations. In terms of timelines, the next election is likely to be between 26 July and 24 August, so that means we ought to be able to gazette the final delimitation report sometime end of January or Mid-February,” she said.

Justice Chigumba explained the plus or minus 20 percent distribution on constituencies and wards.

“The constitution provides us with a mathematical formula to keep 210 constituencies. This is the first time that ZEC is delimitating wards as well, and the last time it was done by the local government. In order to delimit wards, the way which we interpret the constitution is that the plus or minus 20 percent is the discretion of the Commission,” she said.

According to the constitution, ZEC must hand over the final delimitation report to President Mnangagwa for gazetting six months before the elections.- state media/ additional reporting

Six Arrested As SA Police Burst Kidnapping Syndicate

Among the items seized by police were 20 cellphones and three GPS tracking units.

Police also seized five luxury vehicles, some of which are new:

  • a Mercedes-Benz E350;
  • a Mercedes-Benz A200;
  • a 2023 Mini Cooper Countryman;

CCC to Scrap Local Govt Ministerial Orders, Zviroto, Zviroto!

By Nomusa Garikai | “Central government is destroying and suffocating local authorities through ministerial directives, corruption, procurement, land barons, partisan staff recruitment and non-implementation of devolution as per the constitution. This we will change,” said Nelson Chamisa via Twitter.

Local authorities have been in the eye of the storm for failing to deliver basic services such as refuse collection and tapped water.
If wishes were kisses
And kisses were songs,
I’d sing for you melodies
Vibrant and long.

By Sylvia Leigh
Of course, this is all wishful daydreaming on the part of Chamisa. For him to reverse any Zanu PF policies he and his CCC friends must first wrestle political power from Mnangagwa and company. They (MDC) had the golden opportunity to do this by implementing the democratic reforms during the 2008 to 2013 GNU. They failed to implement even one token reform and the chance was wasted.
Mugabe bribed them with the trappings of high office and the rest is history.

Chamisa and company claim they will “win big” in 2023. It is all wishful thinking, of course. How can they win the elections so flawed there is no verified voters’ roll, rural voters are frog marched to vote for Zanu PF, etc., etc.
“Zviroto zviroto, siyai zviroto mumba!” (Daydreaming is daydreaming, one must not allow themselves to be carried away with their daydreaming!) said the late Zanu PF dictator Robert Mugabe dismissively of also late Morgan Tsvangirai’s claims of electoral victory.
The tragedy for Zimbabwe is there are many Zimbabweans out there who continue to believe MDC/CCC’s nonsensical daydreaming of ending the Zanu PF dictatorship without implemented the democratic reforms. Even if the those involved in the vote rigging; the Army, ZEC, Police, etc.; were to switch their loyalty from Zanu PF to CCC – which is what Chamisa and Morgan Tsvangirai before have been actively promoting by promising they will all keep their privileges and loot – this will not guarantee good governance.
The root causes of Zimbabwe’s economic meltdown and bad governance are the mismanagement, the rampant corruption and failure to hold those in power to democratic account; which are, in turn, the by-product of the political patronage system. Trading in one patron, Mnangagwa, for a new one, Chamisa, will not end the criminal waste of human and material resources nor promote debate, democratic competition and free elections – the prerequisites for good governance.
The people of Zimbabwe have risked life and limb to elect MDC/CCC leaders into power on the understanding they would implement the democratic reforms to end the Zanu PF dictatorship, the nation has been dying for. After 23 years, 5 of which in the GNU, MDC/CCC leaders have not implemented even one token reform. It is very disappointing that the people are not only given MDC/CCC their marching orders but continue giving the sell outs their support seduced by the daydream empty promises. Mwonzora Returning Harvest House Keys To Chamisa?

…Will he now return the party finances money and the keys to the Harvest House building…

There was drama yesterday when the govt owned Zim Papers in its editorial appeared to turn against the state assisted opposition leader, Douglas Mwonzora, which was the first time in history the Herald newspaper editors suggested Mwonzora must share his loot from the political finances purse.

By Farai D Hove | The leader of the state assisted break away MDC T party, Douglas Mwonzora yesterday performed a u turn to suddenly support the National Council institution that appointed his nemesis Nelson Chamisa Acting President of the MDC T in 2018.

Mwonzora’s party was created on the sole basis and accusation that Chamisa should have disobeyed the party’s National Council Resolution that made him Acting President after the death of MDC founder Morgan Tsvangirai.

Will he now return the party finances money and the keys to the Harvest House building since he (Mwonzora) has done exactly what he has for years accused his nemesis and former leader Nelson Chamisa of doing- to follow a National Council Resolution?

Speaking to the state owned ZTN broadcaster, Mwonzora defended himself for suspending his compatriots Elias Mudzuri and co, saying:
“I have expelled people from the party for corruption. I’ve expelled people from the party for violence.”

After he was asked by Andy Hodges for clarification on the charges, Mwonzora responded saying: “The charges range from violence and planning violence, number 1. Taking the party to court, number 2. And there is a resolution of the National Council that if you take the party to court, you have expelled yourself, use domestic remedies. Number 3, colluding with forces which are hostile to the MDC, and you will be interested to note that some of these forces are in the opposition; some of these forces are in government, and some of these people were colluding with these people, and number 4, attempting to circumvent a democratic process; we have had a congress, and you have not made it and you want to reverse that, we have domestic remedies. And of course planning a split of the party and some of them planning to form another political party…”

Malaba At It Again, Endorses ZEC’s Election Rigging Plan

By- The Constitutional Court has refused to hear on an urgent basis an application challenging the flawed Zimbabwe Electoral Commission delimitation report.

The challenge was lodged by a Harare man Mr Tonderai Chidawu who approached the court to order the restart and to invalidate processes that took place in Parliament since the preliminary delimitation report was tabled on January 6 for lack of compliance with the Constitution.
Parliament yesterday handed over to President Mnangagwa its report on the preliminary delimitation report produced by the electoral commission last month in line with provisions of the Constitution.
The parliamentary report was produced by an all-party ad-hoc committee established by Parliament to analyse the preliminary delimitation report and also contained submissions by legislators during debate. It was approved by the National Assembly and the Senate.
President Mnangagwa is today expected to hand over this report to ZEC to consider issues raised by Parliament as required by law.
Speaking to journalists after a chamber hearing yesterday, Professor Lovemore Madhuku, who is representing Mr Chidawu confirmed the court ruling.
“The Chief Justice (Luke Malaba) has ruled that the matter should proceed as an ordinary court application because at this stage it will be premature for the court to determine the matter,” he said.
He said the application was meant to put Parliament on the spot for failure to fulfil its constitutional obligation.
Prof Madhuku said his client furnished Parliament with copies of documents alleging that the report which was submitted to be tabled in Parliament was not a report of the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission but by a portion of the ZEC, the chair and deputy chair, but Parliament went on to debate the report.
“That is the allegation and he (Chidawu) wants Parliament to investigate that but refused and proceeded to debate the report and they took their results to the President,” he said.
“By failing to investigate my client is saying that it’s a failure to fulfil the constitutional obligation to bring state institutions to account.”
Prof Madhuku added that if the issue raised by his client was determined in his favour it would mean that all the processes that Parliament undertook and everything that followed would be null and void. Prof Madhuku said they were also calling ZEC to do a delimitation which involves all commissioners.
Mr Chidawu’s application contained affidavits from two ZEC commissioners. He alleges that the preliminary report was not approved by seven of the nine ZEC commissioners hence should not have been sent to the President.
Parliament debated the draft delimitation report and yesterday handed its recommendations to President Mnangagwa for onward transmission to ZEC which will now have to produce a final delimitation report.
In terms of the Constitution, the delimitation of constituency boundaries must be done at least six months before the elections.
In the event that it is completed less than six months to an election, the delimitation report cannot be considered for that election but a future election.

Mwonzora, Mudzuri In Fierce Fight

By- The former MDC vice president, Elias Mudzuri, and six other party members suspended by the party leader, Douglas Mwonzora, have fought back.

These officials were suspended over several alleged offences and are saying their removal was unlawful, raising more doubts.

The opposition suspended Mudzuri, Norest Marara, Gift Konjana, John Nyika, Den Moyo, Edwin Dzambara, and Edwin Kakora on Monday for allegedly breaking party rules, having illegal meetings, and undermining the democratic procedures of the organisation.

The seven argued in an internal memo submitted to the party’s national chairperson Solomon Chikohwero that the Mwonzora camp’s suspension of them was unlawful. They also vowed to continue carrying out their party obligations.

They cited sections of the MDC constitution that state that the president and national chairperson are elected in a congress, therefore, since there was no congress, the party’s presidency, national chairperson, and standing committee positions were all vacant. Read the memo seen by ZimLive:

As per 6.4.4.1 of the MDC Constitution, The President and National Chairman of the party together with the rest of the Standing Committee office bearers shall be elected at Congress.

Since no congress has been held according to the tenets of the party constitution, the offices stipulated in 6.4.4.1 are deemed to remain vacant.

Any individual seeking to usurp powers vested in 6.4.4.1 is acting ultra-vires the party constitution and any actions, announcements, or representations from such individuals are null and void.

The seven officials, according to MDC spokesperson Witness Dube, were accused of leaking the information to the media in an effort to get unwarranted attention.

Dube claimed that the suspended officials were merely seeking public sympathy because they even considered writing to Chikohwero, who they claim was improperly using his position as party chair. Dube said:

We will not be drawn to argue on our constitution in the media because this is what these attention seekers will derive satisfaction from.

The fact that they recognise a chairperson they consider to have been elected illegally shows that they are only playing to the gallery, and may be afraid of appearing before the disciplinary hearing.

The party will comment after their case has been properly considered in accordance with our constitutional provisions.

Insiders claim that the seven suspended party leaders were unofficially dismissed for criticising Mwonzora’s leadership, and the opposition used the impending disciplinary process as a public relations gimmick.

According to reports, the suspended leaders are currently developing a plan to contest their expulsion and Mwonzora’s authority.

They attribute the party’s unpopularity and dismal performance in last year’s by-elections to Mwonzora’s strategies.

FORMER detective, Jaison Muvevi, who killed three people in Wedza last week, was further detained by the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), for him to make indications on how he allegedly committed the crime.

Investigating Officer, Pisai Chikara asked for more time with the suspect, stating that they intend to take him to Wedza for further investigations before he can be charged.

Muvevi briefly appeared before Harare magistrate, Dennis Mangosi protesting going back into the hands of the police.

He told court his former colleagues hung him up all night.

However, the police applied for a warrant of further detention which was granted.

“I didn’t sleep at all,” he said after the magistrate asked him if he had any complaints against the police.

“The police officers I was handed over to added extra handcuffs and hung me from a bar so I did not sleep at all,” he said.

His lawyer, Samson Dzingira later showed up insisting that his client should be sent to prison not back into police custody.

“The State is trying to indirectly solicit for a confession from the accused by asking him to make indications,” said Dzingira.

“The submission that they can only craft a charge after the indications does not hold any water…the question is why did they arrest him in the first place.

“I would move that the form 242 be crafted in a day and the accused be placed on remand while in the custody of prisons.

“If they want him for interviews, they can still do so with him coming from jail.

“Since the 24 hour period expires tomorrow (Thursday), the warrant for further detention should be refused and the accused be placed on remand on a form 242 tomorrow,” said the lawyer.

The magistrate ruled no prejudice would be suffered if Muvevi goes back to the police.

He is expected back in court on January 20.

Muvevi shot dead an apostolic sect prophet before fatally shooting Officer in Charge of Wedza police station, Inspector Maxwell Hove (43) and a bar tender.

ZRP has identified the other two victims as Crispen Mubvana (62) and Munashe Mujanhi (20).

Muvevi also injured one Detective Constable Tendai Mugova.

He then fled to Mozambique after attempting to kill one Raphael Nyahwema at Mutare Boys High.

The former cop was apprehended by civilians who handed him over to the neighbouring country’s police before his deportation.- Bulawayo24

Mudzuri To Form Own Party ?

By A Correspondent| Following his suspension from the Douglas Mwonzora led Movement for Democratic Change (MDC-T), Engineer Elias Mudzuri appears to be on the verge of starting his own movement if posts from a Twitter account named @MyMDC_T are anything to go by.

Mudzuri together with losing Harare Central legislator Norest Marara and five others were suspended from MDC-T for ‘gross misconduct’ but the Harare Senator appears to be pondering challenging for the country’s presidency on his own.

The account hailed Mudzuri as an exceptional Mayor during his reign while also highlighting his success as MDC Organising Secretary during the 2008 harmonised elections where the then party leader Morgan Tsvangirai trounced Zanu PF’s candidate Robert Mugabe to force a run-off.

“He was an exceptional Mayor (Harare), he delivered victory for the opposition in 2008 , stabilized the grid as the Minister of Energy, he continues to serve the people of Harare with humility,” reads post from the Twitter account.

The suspended group has also issued a statement dismissing their suspension as illegitimate.

“As per 6.4.4.1 of the MDC Constitution, The President and National Chairman of the party together with the rest of the Standing Committee office bearers shall be elected at Congress.

“Since no congress has been held according to the tenets of the party constitution, the offices stipulated in 6.4.4.1 are deemed to remain vacant,” reads part of the statement from the MDC Suspended Seven.

Should Mudzuri form his own party, it will be the first splinter group from the Mwonzora group after splitting from Nelson Chamisa who now leads the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC).

Man Rapes Goat To Death

While it is common knowledge that when you rape a human being and you are convicted of the crime, you are likely to spend a number of years behind bars, the case appeared different in a similar case.

Although animal cruelty is a chargeable offence, a 20-year-old man from Godlwayo Village 3 in Esigodini District, Matabeleland South province was lucky to escape a prison term after he was convicted for raping a goat which reportedly died during the act, apparently of exhaustion.

The goat rapist Mthandazo Ndlovu appeared before Esigodini resident magistrate Nomagugu Sibanda charged with two counts of bestiality as defined in Section 74 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act Chapter 9:23.

He pleaded guilty to both counts and was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment of which six months were suspended for three years on condition he is not convicted of any offence of which bestiality is an element committed within that period, for which upon conviction he is sentenced to imprisonment without the option of a fine.

The remaining 12 months were suspended on condition that Ndlovu completes 420 hours of community service at Godlwayo Primary School.

The court proved that Ndlovu performed an act that would make “any right-thinking member of society sick to their stomach,” when he raped Brighton Nkomo’s goat to death before he was also caught red-handed romping with Luckson Mkandla’s goat.

Both Nkomo and Mkandla are from Ntabende Village in Esigodini.

Circumstances are that on 28 October 2022 and at around 10pm Ndlovu who was employed at Phat-Ore Mine, went to Nkomo’s homestead and upon arrival he entered his goat pen.

While inside the goat pen, he had sex with one of his female goats. It is reported that the goat died during the act.

It is reported that the following morning Nkomo went to the goat pen and found one of his female goats lying unconscious and upon checking it, he found it dead with some semen on its rear.

Nkomo reportedly tracked a trail of footprints from the goat pen and they led him to Ndlovu’s home.

It is reported that on 31 October 2022 and at around 3am, Ndlovu who was apparently on a sex spree with goats, went to Mkandla’s homestead and upon arrival he got into his goat pen.

While inside the pen, he took off all his clothes and grabbed one of the female goats and forced it to lie on its back and raped it.

Apparently out of pain, the goat bleated continuously and that prompted Mkandla to wake up and go to the pen to see what was happening.

Mkandla reportedly stealthily moved to the goat pen and upon arrival he flashed his torch and was shocked when he saw Ndlovu busy like a rabbit having sex with one of his female goats.

In a swank of shame, Ndlovu fled naked leaving behind his clothes in the goat pen.

By that time Mkandla who had already recognised Ndlovu went and reported the matter to the police leading to his arrest.

His clothes which he left in Mkandla’s goat pen were used in court as an exhibit. -B Metro

I have done an indipendent single called Play On which should be available on music platforms this month. I recorded this song 3 years back but hadn’t published yet. It talks about how tough a path to success can be, and how one should keep up the energy to stand tall even when the world energies are fighting against your progress.

I love doing music more than anything else. Though I find myself doing Software Development trying to balance my economics, my heart lies on music.

Government Bans Racing Mutoko Horror Crash Buses

By- The government has suspended the licenses of Zebra Kiss and Rimbi Travel & Tours following the death of one person in an accident the two buses caused, Wednesday.

Transport minister Felix Mhona announced the suspension in a statement Thursday.

STATEMENT BY THE MINISTER OF TRANSPORT AND INFRASTRUCTURAL DEVELOPMENT, HON. F. T. MHONA (MP) ON THE SUSPENSION OF THE LICENCES FOR OPERATION OF ALL OMNIBUSES (BUSES) BY RIMBI TRAVEL AND TOURS (PVT) LTD AND TASHLLYT INVESTMENTS (PVT) LTD TRADING AS ZEBRA KISS

The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development has noted with great concern the video circulating on social media, which captures the circumstances leading to the fatal Road Traffic Accident (RTA), that occurred on 17 January 2023 in Mutoko District along the Harare-Nyamapanda Highway. The video and circumstances of the accident, which have been verified, involves two passenger transport service vehicles of an omnibus type (commonly referred to as buses) belonging to Rimbi Travel and Tours (Pvt) Ltd and Tashllyt Investments (Pvt) Ltd trading as Zebra Kiss.

Pursuant to the fatal accident, which has so far claimed one life and caused serious injury of many passengers, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development and other actors in the ecosystem of road traffic management, including the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), the Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe (TSCZ) and emergency health services has established the component of human error, prohibited by Sections 51, 52 and 53 of the Road Traffic Act [Chapter 13:11] as the principal cause of the accident. Sections 51, 52 and 53 of the Road Traffic Act prohibit driving without due care and attention or reasonable consideration for others, negligent or dangerous driving and reckless driving respectively, which violation is a breach of the terms and conditions of the two operators’ licenses issued for them to operate in Zimbabwe.

Informed by the foregoing violations and verified videographic circumstances, the Commissioner of Road Transport, after informing the two operators of his intention, and after the operators were given a reasonable opportunity to make representations on the matter in terms of Section 17 (2) of the Road Motor Transportation Act [Chapter 13:15], invoked provisions of Section 17 (1) (b) (i) of the same Act and suspended the licences of Rimbi Travel and Tours and Tashllyt Investments Trading as Zebra Kiss from operating all its omnibuses in all the routes as authorised by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development. This suspension is with immediate effect

pending corrective measures by the two operators to ensure that they are in a position to resume operations without breach of the terms and conditions under which their licenses are issued. Section 17 (1) (b) (i) of the Road Motor Transportation Act empowers the Commissioner of Road Transport to suspend the operator’s license where it appears that there is disregard of the terms and conditions of the licenses. I have directed that this provision be implemented dutifully, consistently and religiously going forward, with the view to weed out all errant operators from our roads. In view of the incessant road fatalities being recorded on our roads, I have taken a bold stance to reduce road carnage as the Minister responsible for administering laws and regulations on road traffic and safety management. This is in line with targets contained in the National Development Strategy (NDS) 1 (2021-2025) which seeks to reduce road accidents and fatalities by a 25% margin per annum. Going forward, we shall build on this momentum of strict enforcement of road motor transportation and safety for the safety and well-being of the people. I wish to remind and warn all Transport Operators, Associations, motorists and members of the public that the Ministry will take stern measures provided by our laws against those who wantonly and blatantly violate road traffic rules and regulations. The safety and security of all commuting public cannot be taken for granted. We will not hesitate to suspend and cancel licenses of operators who violate terms and conditions of such licenses, traffic rules and regulations. We urge all road traffic law enforcement agencies to be on high alert to enforce the road traffic laws and ensure that operators with suspended and cancelled licenses do not ply our roads.

HON. F. T. MHONA (MP) MINISTER OF TRANSPORT AND INFRASTRUCTURAL DEVELOPMENT

About Children’s Health

An estimated 5 million children died before their fifth birthday and another 2.1 million children and youth aged between 5–24 years lost their lives in 2021, according to the latest estimates released by the United Nations Inter-agency Group for Child Mortality Estimation (UN IGME).

In a separate report also released today, the group found that 1.9 million babies were stillborn during the same period. Tragically, many of these deaths could have been prevented with equitable access and high-quality maternal, newborn, child and adolescent health care.

“Every day, far too many parents are facing the trauma of losing their children, sometimes even before their first breath,” said Vidhya Ganesh, UNICEF Director of the Division of Data Analytics, Planning and Monitoring. “Such widespread, preventable tragedy should never be accepted as inevitable. Progress is possible with stronger political will and targeted investment in equitable access to primary health care for every woman and child.”

The reports show some positive outcomes with a lower risk of death across all ages globally since 2000. The global under-5 mortality rate fell by 50% since the start of the century, while mortality rates in older children and youth dropped by 36%, and the stillbirth rate decreased by 35%. This can be attributed to more investments in strengthening primary health systems to benefit women, children and young people.

However, gains have reduced significantly since 2010, and 54 countries will fall short of meeting the Sustainable Development Goals target for under-5 mortality. If swift action is not taken to improve health services, warn the agencies, almost 59 million children and youth will die before 2030, and nearly 16 million babies will be lost to stillbirth.

“It is grossly unjust that a child’s chances of survival can be shaped just by their place of birth, and that there are such vast inequities in their access to lifesaving health services,” said Dr Anshu Banerjee, Director for Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health and Ageing at the World Health Organization (WHO).

“Children everywhere need strong primary health care systems that meet their needs and those of their families, so that – no matter where they are born – they have the best start and hope for the future.”

Children continue to face wildly differentiating chances of survival based on where they are born, with sub-Saharan Africa and southern Asia shouldering the heaviest burden, the reports show. Though sub-Saharan Africa had just 29% of global live births, the region accounted for 56% of all under-5 deaths in 2021, and southern Asia for 26% of the total.

Children born in sub-Saharan Africa are subject to the highest risk of childhood death in the world – 15 times higher than the risk for children in Europe and northern America.

Mothers in these 2 regions also endure the painful loss of babies to stillbirth at an exceptional rate, with 77% of all stillbirths in 2021 occurring in sub-Saharan Africa and south Asia. Nearly half of all stillbirths happened in sub-Saharan Africa. The risk of a woman having a stillborn baby in sub-Saharan Africa is 7 times more likely than in Europe and North America.

“Behind these numbers are millions of children and families who are denied their basic rights to health,” said Juan Pablo Uribe, Global Director for Health, Nutrition and Population, World Bank and Director of the Global Financing Facility. “We need political will and leadership for sustained financing for primary health care which is one of the best investments countries and development partners can make.”

Access to and availability of quality health care continues to be a matter of life or death for children globally. Most child deaths occur in the first five years, of which half are within the first month of life. For these youngest babies, premature birth and complications during labour are the leading causes of death.

Similarly, more than 40% of stillbirths occur during labour – most of which are preventable when women have access to quality care throughout pregnancy and birth. For children that survive past their first 28 days, infectious diseases like pneumonia, diarrhoea and malaria pose the biggest threat.

While COVID-19 has not directly increased childhood mortality – with children facing a lower likelihood of dying from the disease than adults – the pandemic may have increased future risks to their survival. In particular, the reports highlight concerns around disruptions to vaccination campaigns, nutrition services, and access to primary health care, which could jeopardize their health and well-being for many years to come. In addition, the pandemic has fuelled the largest continued backslide in vaccinations in three decades, putting the most vulnerable newborns and children at greater risk of dying from preventable diseases.

The reports also note gaps in data, which could critically undermine the impact of policies and programmes designed to improve childhood survival and well-being.

“The new estimates highlight the remarkable global progress since 2000 in reducing mortality among children under age 5,” said John Wilmoth, Director, UN DESA Population Division. “Despite this success, more work is needed to address persistent large differences in child survival across countries and regions, especially in sub-Saharan Africa. Only by improving access to quality health care, especially around the time of childbirth, will we be able to reduce these inequities and end preventable deaths of newborns and children worldwide.”

Rising Zim Musician Releases Sizzling Song

By A Correspondent

Rising musician and songwriter Lewin Muzvonda also known as Lewin Muz is set to release a sizzling song titled Why Not.

The song will be released on 23 January 2023.

Lewin Muz is also working on releasing a new album in May.

“This track is part of an upcoming album which I intend to release in May 2023,” the soft-spoken musician said.

WLewin Muz is an Afro Pop artist from Zimbabwe born in Mutare and raised in Bindura.

Lewin Muz started singing at the age of 8, that time he was playing Marimba instruments.

He Continued playing Marimba all the way to Churchill Boys High where he did Form 1 to 6.

“We performed at quite a number of events which included weddings, corporate meetings, fun days etc with the Churchill Band Crew.

Some of my crew members were Gary Tight, Ishan Ril Baad, Tino Mudepu to name a few.

Churchill High School has done quite a good job in grooming talents I can say.

During high school thats when I started recording my own music at home though I wasnt publishing it.

I enrolled for BEng Production Engineering at Chinhoyi University of Technology where I kept on personally learning about producing music and nurturing my vocals.

From there I relocated to South Africa where I started a career as a Software Developer,” Lew Muz said.

He lived in South Africa for about 3 years and moved to Dubai, where he is currently based with his family and working as an IT Executive in the Fitness Industry.

The musician added :
“Last year 2022 I worked on a single Attention which was mainly promoted on Spotify and this year I have sat myself to release and promote an album which includes the prelease single .Why Not*coming is up on 23 January officially on all platforms.

I produced Why Not myself but I look forward to working with various artists and producers for the album.

I have already started planning with a few established artists for features and I believe great things are on the way.”

“I am an artist, I write songs from logic and sometimes personal experiences but not always. I enjoy curating expressions through lyrical content. Most of my tracks are focused on affection and love but I also like giving people motivation and advise about day to day life experiences.

I look forward to making massive tunes, that seat at people’s hearts. Zimbabweans and non-Zimbabweans.

I look forward to taking Zim Music far, linking up with global artists. Thats my objective and I believe with more networking and hardwork it will come to happen,” declared the youthful musician.

Get Professional Advice On Mining

Business Correspondent

Geological Mapping is an important tool in the mining industry.

Many people look down upon Geological mapping and just do simple methods in search of minerals for example dowsing methods to search for minerals.

Geological mapping is the process done by a Geologist in which he picks up rock units called lithologies in an area, picking the orientation and structural features on the mine.

Explaining the importance of Geological mapping:
One can know the contact zones which are important in gold mineralization. Gold moves in areas of low mean stress for example fractures, faults, etc if a Geologist is able to pic a contact zone he can be able to proceed checking possible mineralization in the cantact zone.

We at Inner Core Resources (Pvt.) Ltd offer Mining services from Geological mapping, reef mapping, Magnetics and IP in exploration for all minerals including Gold, Lithium, Manganese and base metals including copper, manganese etc. Exploration starts from desktop studies spanning to geological mapping upto geological reporting with our experienced personnel.

Why would you want to do this:

To understand the potential of your area,
This would be your guideline during mining…

He then reported the matter to the police, leading to the trio’s arrest.

Mnangagwa Using Ian Smith Tactics To Torment Citizens

Tinashe Sambiri|Hard-hitting CCC vice president Hon Tendai Biti has accused Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa of using colonial regime tactics to terrorize citizens.

Mr Mnangagwa is known for his penchant for tormenting political foes.

Hon Biti bemoaned the rampant violation of human rights in Zimbabwe.

See statement below:

Zanu PF govt now outright fascist – our meetings banned, our leaders being jailed.

An overused tool of authoritarian regimes is a dragnet approach where mass arrests of opponents takes place&systematic attacks on all Human Rights Defenders particularly lawyers, journalists & doctors. We are witnessing reincarnation of Smith s Rhodesia 44 years after independence.

We are deeply worried by the physical & mental condition of our detained comrades.

The conditions in Zimbabwe s prisons subject inmates to cruel,degrading treatment& torture.Bail is a constitutional right.Let us respect that.#FreeWiwa #FreeBudiriro26 #JusticeForMoreblessingAli

FULL TEXT BY DR EVELYN SENGWE ON JAISON MUVEVI’S INNOCENCE

STATEMENT BY DR EVELYN SENGWE ON JAISON MUVEVI ISSUE

I would like to start by expressing my deepest condolences to the families of the victims. It was an unfortunate incident and its a sad development

Having said that, I believe. Jaison Muvevi is innocent. Muvevi had retired from the CID and was now a businessman, specialising in mining development.

He has been and is contributing to economic development and providing employment to other people. During the time this incident happened, Muvevi was coming from his mine. I was scheduled to later meet him because he had collected money from his mine for a charity programme that I do with him, paying school fees for vulnerable children.

Muvevi had gone for lunch and a misunderstanding arose. As someone who had money on him, he could have thought the people were robbers following him. Muvevi had gone for lunch and not on a shooting spree.

Things went sour when the misunderstandings arose and Muvevi could have thought they were robbers after him.

I take it that Muvevi is innocent and the incident that happened are unfortunate. Mind you, Muvevi is a trained security man, a former CID operative.

You do not just start in the CID. Its actually a merit position with specialised officers. The ZRP has a very serious training programme which has produced excellent personell, Muvevi included.

Hence the actions by Muvevi, a trained CID officer, should have been informed by a reasonable. degree of danger.

I recommend that Muvevi be found innocent but for. him to give each family of the affected victims, 10 cattle and Usd 5 000 per each family.

For anything regarding this case, I am wiling to provide my relevant expertise and those who want anything may contact me.

Regards

Dr Evelyn Sengwe

Politicians Using Securocrats To Terrorize Civilians

Opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa yesterday said securocrats in the country were being used by politicians to clamp down on civilians ahead of polls expected later this year.

Responding to concerns raised on Twitter by one of his supporters identified as Thomas Ray Matiza, who suggested that if CCC wins this year’s elections, police chiefs should be fired, Chamisa said blame should instead be apportioned on politicians who order police to clamp down on citizens.

“The problem is with politicians, not our patriotic men and women in uniform who are so loyal to Zimbabwe. We must fix this,” Chamisa tweeted in response.

The remarks follow the arrest during the weekend of 25 CCC activists, including Mkoba MP Amos Chibaya and Budiriro MP Costa Machingauta for allegedly participating in a gathering to promote public violence.

When Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights member Kudzai Kadzere visited them for representation, he was reportedly beaten up by police who left him hospitalised.

National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi declined to comment.

“I am currently attending a senior officers meeting. I can’t comment on what Chamisa has said,” Nyathi said.

Political analyst Vivid Gwede said: “Police details work on commands which are issued by superiors who are usually politically connected, which is against the Police Charter and the Constitution.

“In this difficult economic environment, the dilemma that the juniors have is whether to disobey the orders and get fired, or obey the orders and keep their jobs. The problem is the flawed political system, hence the calls for politicians to respect the Constitution.”

Another political analyst Maxwell Saungweme said politicians were the ones that order the security forces to commit atrocities on civilians.

“But those witty words from Chamisa signify political maturity, political repartee, and swordplay. It’s an undeniable fact that the security forces are kingmakers in Zimbabwe,” Saungweme said.

He said in this year’s elections, and in order to wrest political power, it will be pivotal for the winner to garner support from the security sector.

Sydicks Muradzikwa, also a political analyst, said: “Chamisa is trying to correct and distance himself from his late predecessor (Morgan Tsvangirai)’s political attitude, which included blistering, scathing attacks on the country’s security and service chiefs. He has learned from the mistakes of Tsvangirai who repeatedly attacked the security sector.”

Muradzikwa said political transition after elections was crucial, and Chamisa was trying to mend relations with the once-threatened security service chiefs so that they welcome him to the seat of politics.

ZIMSEC Dismisses Claims Ordinary Level Results Released

The Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (Zimsec) has said it is finalising the processes preceding the release of the November 2022 Ordinary Level examination results, contrary to some false reports circulating in some sections of the media.

In a statement on Tuesday, Zimsec said the results will be announced at the appropriate time when all the processes have been completed.

“There have been false reports circulating on social media, particularly from a Zimsec parody (false) Twitter account and an online publication, Afrogazette, purporting that the Ordinary level results have been cancelled. We haven’t issued any statements on the pass rate of the 2022 O Level Examination candidates or cancellation of results,” read part of the statement.

“These reports are published in mischief to cause anxiety and unrest amongst candidates and parents. We advise all stakeholders to disregard these speculative attempts to cause panic and despondency and await official updates from ZIMSEC.

“We are in the process of finalising assessment of 2022 Ordinary Level performance and have completed the marking. The processes which precede the release of the results are currently underway”.

Zimsec said those candidates who had pre-access to question papers at different examination centres were identified during the writing of the examinations and also at the marking of scripts stage.

In addition, these candidates will, in line with existing laws have their examination results cancelled.

“Our stakeholders are called upon to expect the release of results to deserving candidates when all necessary processes have been completed. We wish to thank the public and all our stakeholders for their interest and cooperation in ensuring the integrity of our examination system,” added the organisation.

Jailed CCC Supporters Denied Food

US based NGO, AHOJ (All Hands On Justice) issues a statement condemning the abuse of arrested CCC activists who have been denied food in prison. Statement below:

Lawyers, representing CCC political party supporters, report that their clients are likely going to suffer with starvation in remand prison as the Prison officers have denied them food.

Today, 25 CCC political party supporters arrested for attending a political meeting spent the whole day without food whilst attending court. The prison guard officials said food could only be given whilst at the remand prison. The cut off time for visitations and giving food at the remand prison is 3pm and the bail hearing seasons at court are going past 3pm meaning the 25 will be spending days without food.

Amongst those arrested are people over 70years old and some on medication. Such acts by State institutions is unacceptable and amounts to persecution!

We urge the Prisons and Correctional Services to respect the Constitution of Zimbabwe. Section 227 of the Constitution instructs the Prisons and Correctional Services to be non-partisan, national in character, and professional. Section 50 of the Constitution also clearly states that any person who is arrested must be treated humanely and with respect for their inherent dignity.

AHOJ demands the end of the persecution of these detainees and their continued incarceration.- AHOJ

700 Jobs Factory Goes Up On Smoke

Over 700 jobs were lost while the lives of several small-scale formal traders operating at the once-thriving Mpopoma Outspan factory are at stake after their factory shells were gutted by fire with property worth millions of dollars going up in flames.

millions of dollars up in flames

The traders lost furniture and equipment when the fire broke out yesterday morning resulting in the factory being reduced to rubble.

The fire broke out around 5.45am in a small section of the vast factory and quickly spread.

The factory, popularly known as Spamprekini, is situated along Nketa Drive adjacent to Mpopoma Recreational Park.

So enterprising was the factory that Mpopoma Outspan Association had perfected its operations to a level where both big and small buyers from different parts of the country flocked into the humble factory to place their orders.

Last year, Chronicle established that the factory produced around 400 high-quality lounge suites per month, 300 wardrobes and 250 kitchen units.

Now the factory with all its machinery has been reduced to ruins.

When the Chronicle news crew arrived at the scene shortly after 6am, scores of stall owners and residents stood in utter disbelief as they watched helplessly their source of income vanishing in a puff of smoke. Visibly shaken workers, some still in pajamas, watched as fire fighters battled to put out the blaze.

Some, with tears rolling down their cheeks, braved the raging fire as they stormed inside the factory in a desperate bid to salvage some of their merchandise.

One of the local residents, Mr Trynos Kapfudzaruwa, broke a gas tank stall whose roof was burning to retrieve tanks.

“I had to do it to save the factory. I do not own a stall in this place, but I saw it fit to assist because this has been an economic empowerment place for most people in our area,” he said.

The news crew also observed one woman with a baby strapped on her back, entering her stall to retrieve her stock.

According to a Bulawayo Fire Brigade official preliminary report, the first unit from Nketa arrived on site at 6.22am.

The report states that the suspected cause of the fire was “carelessly discarded lit material”.

“The entire premises were well alight with large volumes of smoke issuing out. Flames could be seen from a distance and producing serious crackling sounds,” read the report.

“The Fire Brigade observed that the entire club was involved, and that the materials mainly involved were timber, foam rubbers and other accessories all used towards the manufacture and repair of sofas and beds.”

According to the report, 75 percent of large quantities of timber, sofas, bed material and tools were damaged. The estimated value of the property is $350 million while the estimated loss is $175 million.

The factory had a furniture manufacturing section, grinding mills, a tombstone-making area, a kitchen with different small food outlets, a gas selling point, a tuck shop, and a poultry area with chickens.

Mpopoma Outspan Association vice chair, Mr Voice Moyo, who has been working at the factory since 1996, said they are devastated.

“We are in deep shock and devastated by what happened. We have lost everything and millions of finished products, materials and equipment have been lost,” he said.

“We are appealing to the Government to assist us to get back on our feet. Official members in our database are 227 and all of them lost everything.”

One of the furniture manufacturers, Mr Tadiwanashe Gamuchirai, said he noticed fumes from a distance and immediately rushed to retrieve his machines.

However, he lost all his finished products comprising couches and beds.

“I don’t know where l am going to get the money to refund some customers who had already paid deposits,” said Mr Gamuchirai.

Ms Nelisiwe Moyo, who run a kitchen shop, said the disaster is a huge blow to their business as the factory was their only source of income.

“I was alerted by a friend that the factory is on fire. Knowing that l had my property inside, I immediately ran to the scene,” she said.

“I could not believe my eyes when l saw flames and everything was destroyed. I am grateful to the people who helped me to remove my property before it was destroyed.”

A Mpopoma resident, Mr Tinashe Mpofu, said he was compelled to assist retrieve an assortment of equipment.

He said the factory also created employment opportunities for youths and women.

“I hope that they had insured their business ventures so that they can start rebuilding their empire again,” said Mr Mpofu.

Mr Isaac Masimba said although he managed to salvage a few items, he lost all his machinery. –Chronicle
