Zanu PF Speaks On By-election Defeat

By- Zanu PF has spoken out on the Saturday by-election, which it lost to the newly-formed Citizens Coalition for Change.

CCC won 19 out of the 28 National Assembly seats that were contested in the by-elections.

Speaking during a press conference at the party headquarters on Monday, Zanu PF Spokesman Christopher Mutsvangwa said the ruling party was happy with the by-election results after it won two seats that had been won by the MDC Alliance in 2018.
Said Mutsvangwa:
We did very well, the party did very well, candidates who wrestled seats from the opposition, I can’t say the same on the opposition.
Most of the seats belonged to the opposition, but with their fractured nature, Zanu PF managed to snatch two seats.

We thank ZEC (Zimbabwe Electoral Commission) for providing a fair hunting ground and unfair criticism of ZEC chairperson Priscilla Chigumba can now die down.
We see 2023 as an opportunity when the fortunes of Zanu PF will be sustained as the message resonates well with the people.
The Saturday by-elections was a warning that their days of urban electorate supremacy are over.
Zanu PF won Epworth and Mutasa South, two seats that had been won by the MDC Alliance in the 2018 harmonised elections.
The ruling party also retained its seats in Gokwe Central, Chivi South, Mberengwa South, Murehwa South, Marondera East, Mwenezi East and Tsholotsho North.

The MDC Alliance, now under the leadership of Douglas Mwonzora, failed to win a single seat.

Chamisa Celebrates Victory Despite Zanu PF Rigging

BY- Opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader, Nelson Chamisa, has said his party won in the just ended by-elections despite rigging by the ruling Zanu PF.

Chamisa claims that the ruling party works in connivance with the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission to manipulate election results.

CCC won the majority of National Assembly and local government seats that fell vacant after the death or recalls of members.

Out of the 28 Parliamentary seats, CCC won 19 and 77 council seats out of the 121 seats available, while the ruling party won the rest.

Chamisa made the remarks at a press conference held in Harare this Monday. He said the election outcome was a “strong signal” from the citizenry. He said the electorate knows what it wants. Watch the video below for more.

Chamisa Kwekwe Central MP Challenges Mnangagwa, Gold Barons

By- Newly-elected Kwekwe Central Member of Parliament, Judith Tobaiwa (35), has vowed to push for changes required to ensure that the majority poor benefit from the city’s gold instead of ruling Zanu PF elites.

Tobaiwa polled got 6 639 votes in weekend by-elections to win the seat for the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), defeating Zanu PF’s local gold mining magnate John Mapurazi (2 883) and two others.

Speaking to journalists after the elections, Tobaiwa said gone are the days when Zanu PF elites controlled the often deadly gold mining sector in the Midland’s second-largest city. She said:

Mining is the backbone of Kwekwe Central and most of our youths are engaged in artisanal mining which is often dangerous due to its associated risks and also violence in the same pits.

As a legislator, I want to make sure that everyone benefits from the mineral resources in Kwekwe.

What we are currently seeing in Kwekwe is very saddening; only those who are benefitting from the mineral resource are aligned to Zanu PF.

Looking back at the election campaign, Tobaiwa said the road to victory was rough adding that she was exposed to violence as the ruling party sensed that she was going to defeat Mapurazi.

She, however, said the experience was water under the bridge as she is now focused on improving people’s livelihoods in the constituency.

Kwekwe Central fell vacant following the death in July 2020 of opposition National Patriotic Front (NPF) parliamentarian Masango Matambanadzo.

CCC Fundraising Now Too Sporadic, Coltart Called To The Fixing Task

By A Correspondent | Fundraising programs for the nation’s newly born yellow-kid, the Citizens Coalition For Change party are now too uncoordinated that they need to be brought back into order, a debate on the Twitter Spaces portal, has concluded.

The CCC has proven ability to rise from anywhere, at any time, and quickly become a force not just for a reckoning, but one to take over a nation. The just ended bi elections have proven this capacity. But one major weakness set to slow down progress- is spinelessness when it comes to long term decision making in for instance, the entity’s treasury department.

It all started 2 years ago in 2020 when a UK based scammer, who was making false claims that she is Nelson Chamisa’s sister, Yeukai Mamoyo, had teamed up with MP Custon Matewu’s father, Jaison to publicly disrupt a Harare online fund raising session for the CCC Trio, that Coltart ended up passing orders that Matewu’s diversion of party funds to his private accounts must be stopped. At that time Matewu working with the fake-Chamisa sister, had instructed diasporans to deposit party funds into his personal company project, promising he would after that transfer the money to Harare.

Jaison Matewu, like in his earlier years when he was once removed by Tsvangirai in 2008 over the same reasons, continued to cause chaos in Chamisa party, working with the fake Chamisa sister, whose boyfriend is a top Mwonzora aide.

The fake Chamisa sister has since joined a cluster of counter intelligence agents who daily study and manipulate organisational weaknesses in the CCC.

Fast forward to 2022, the party launched Spaces discussions but was beaten in speed by a group of state agents who just last year March attempted to get three of Chamisa’s aides slapped with false charges of sexual assault. The group is also the one that in 2021 was supporting and sponsoring the ferret who planned to kill Human Rights Watch Director, Dewa Mavhinga, Mr Elvis Mugari.

The spaces platforms gave the ferrets a good opportunity to regroup and appear sympathetic to Chamisa. But more chaos has since emerged over accountability as money raised cannot be fully traced. To this issue, citizen Jessica Geraldine said:

Mnangagwa Violating Liberation Principles- President Chamisa

Tinashe Sambiri|Citizens’ Coalition For Change leader President Nelson Chamisa says he is satisfied with the results of the March 26 by-elections although there is a lot of work to do in terms of pushing for reforms.

Addressing a media briefing in Harare on Monday, President Chamisa called for wholesale reforms within the electoral system.

President Chamisa’s CCC clinched the majority of local government and house of assembly seats in the Saturday by-elections.

President Chamisa said: ” We know that Zanu PF is abusing traditional leaders across the country. Intimidation of voters is rampant in rural areas.

However, I am happy with our performance despite the setbacks.

Zanu PF is violating the principles of the liberation struggle.”

Judgement Day For VP Chiwenga’s Wife

The verdict is scheduled for today for Marry Mubaiwa on her charge of breaching the Marriages Act by allegedly misrepresenting that her then husband Vice President Constantino Chiwenga consented to solemnise their marriage under the Act during the time he was hospitalised.
Magistrate Mr Lazini Ncube is due to give his judgment and this will almost certainly deal both with the alleged facts as well as whether the proven facts do breach the Act.

But Mubaiwa was back in court yesterday on her charge that she allegedly assaulted her former house maid over issues relating to her children.

Prosecutor Mrs Netsai Mushayabasa led two witnesses who told the court that Mubaiwa assaulted former maid Ms Delight Munyoro in their presence.

Mr Batsirai Furupiya, a security personnel, was the first to take to the witness stand and told the court that Mubaiwa first greeted Ms Munyoro when they had gone to collect the children from school before she started shouting at her .

“She first greeted her before she shouted at her. I then saw her assaulting Munyoro by the back of her hand,” he said. He did not hear what Mubaiwa and Ms Munyoro’s were saying during the time they exchanged words.

Colonel Gesham Muradzi, who was Vice President Chiwenga’s aide, told the court that he saw Mubaiwa attacking Ms Munyoro with the back of her hand leaving her bleeding. Col Muradzi had to intervene to restrain the two.

He saw in the mirror of the car Mubaiwa strike Ms Munyoro with the back of her hand leaving her bleeding in the mouth. He did not notice if Mubaiwa’s hand was swollen after the blow, but did notice rings on her fingers.- Herald

Key Information About TB

On World TB Day, WHO calls for an urgent investment of resources, support, care and information into the fight against tuberculosis (TB).

Although 66 million lives have been saved since 2000, the COVID-19 pandemic has reversed those gains.

For the first time in over a decade, TB deaths increased in 2020. Ongoing conflicts across Eastern Europe, Africa and the Middle East have further exacerbated the situation for vulnerable populations.

Global spending on TB diagnostics, treatments and prevention in 2020 were less than half of the global target of US$ 13 billion annually by 2022.

For research and development, an extra US$ 1.1 billion per year is needed. “Urgent investments are needed to develop and expand access to the most innovative services and tools to prevent, detect and treat TB that could save millions of lives each year, narrow inequities and avert huge economic losses,” said Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. “These investments offer huge returns for countries and donors, in averted health care costs and increased productivity.”

Investments in TB programmes have demonstrated benefits not just for people with TB but for health systems and pandemic preparedness. Building on lessons learnt from COVID-19 research, there is a need to catalyse investment and action to accelerate the development of new tools, especially new TB vaccines.

Progress towards reaching the 2022 targets set in the UN High Level Meeting political declaration and the WHO Director-General’s Flagship Initiative Find.Treat.All is at risk mainly due to lack of funding. Between 2018–2020, 20 million people were reached with TB treatment.

This is 50% of the 5-year target of 40 million people reached with TB treatment for 2018-2022. During the same period 8.7 million people were provided TB preventive treatment. This is 29% of the target of 30 million for 2018-2022.

The situation is even worse for children and adolescents with TB. In 2020, an estimated 63 % of children and young adolescents below 15 years with TB were not reached with or not officially reported to have accessed life-saving TB diagnosis and treatment services; the proportion was even higher – 72% – for children under 5 years. Almost two thirds of eligible children under 5 did not receive TB preventive treatment and therefore remain at risk of illness.

COVID-19 has had a further negative and disproportionate impact on children and adolescents with TB or at risk, with increased TB transmission in the household, lower care-seeking and access to health services. WHO is sounding the alarm on World TB Day for countries to urgently restore access to TB services, disrupted due to COVID-19 pandemic for all people with TB, especially children and adolescents.

“Children and adolescents with TB are lagging behind adults in access to TB prevention and care”, said Dr Tereza Kasaeva, Director of WHO’s Global TB Programme. “The WHO guidelines issued today are a gamechanger for children and adolescents, helping them get diagnosed and access care sooner, leading to better outcomes and cutting transmission. The priority now is to rapidly expand implementation of the guidance across countries to save young lives and avert suffering”

Updated guidelines for the management of TB in children and adolescents
Updated guidelines for the management of TB in children and adolescents released by WHO today highlight new patient-centred recommendations for diagnosis, treatment and prevention. The most recent recommendations are:

Diagnostic testing has expanded to include non-invasive specimens, such as stools.
Rapid molecular diagnostics are recommended as the initial test for TB diagnosis for children and adolescents.

Children and adolescents who have non-severe forms of drug-susceptible TB are now recommended to be treated for four months instead of six months, as well as TB meningitis, where a six-month regimen is now recommended instead of 12 months. This promotes a patient-centred approach that will reduce the costs of TB care for children, adolescents and their families.
Two of the newest TB medicines to treat drug resistant TB (bedaquiline and delamanid) are now recommended for use in children of all ages, making it possible for children with drug-resistant TB to receive all-oral treatment regimens regardless of their age.
New models of decentralized and integrated TB care are also recommended, which will allow more children and adolescents to access TB care or preventive treatment, closer to where they live.
TB remains one of the world’s deadliest infectious killers. Each day, over 4 100 people lose their lives to TB and close to 30 000 people fall ill with this preventable and curable disease. Ending TB requires concerted action by all sectors. On World TB Day, WHO calls on everyone- individuals, communities, societies, donors and governments to do their part to end TB.

Team Pachedu said in a statement:

Mwonzora Fires More Chamisa Councilors

By- MDC-T President Douglas Mwonzora has recalled 16 more councillors aligned to the Nelson Chamisa led CCC.

The recalled councillors were elected under the MDC Alliance ticket in 2018.

Commenting on the recalls, exiled Political Science Professor, Jonathan Moyo, suggested that councillors that were elected under the MDC Alliance banner in 2018 and are pro-Chamisa, should all resign. Said the former Information minister:
… why are MPs & Councillors elected as MDC-A in 2018 and are now #CCC still clinging to MDC-A seats, as @DMwonzora holds them hostage? Why not resign en masse before it’s too late?
Reports indicate that Mwonzora intends to recall more councillors who are being accused of ceasing to be members of the MDC-T.

MDC-Alliance Rejects Mwonzora

By- A member of the MDC Alliance has said it would be disastrous for the alliance to field Senator Douglas Mwonzora as its candidate for the 2023 presidential election.
Marakia Bomani, the Secretary-General (SG) of the Zimbabwe People First (ZimPF) and also the Coordinator of the MDC Alliance Secretariat told this reporter that Mwonzora’s leadership has made several blunders in a bid to settle scores with Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader, Nelson Chamisa.
Bomani accuses the Mwonzora-led leadership of making decisions for the alliance without consulting other parties that are members to the alliance.
The MDC Alliance, which consisted of 7 opposition parties, was formed in 2017 in a bid to dislodge the ruling ZANU PF from power. It has subsisted since then, although some parties left the alliance after the 2018 elections.
Bomani spoke to Pindula News in the aftermath of sending a letter to Mwonzora suspending him as the leader of the Alliance “pending investigations” over alleged violations of the alliance agreement.

The suspension came immediately after the MDC Alliance had failed to clinch a single seat in the just-ended by-elections. Bomani told this reporter:
Going into 2023 with president Mwonzora as our leader would be disastrous. The decisions which he made unilaterally, without consulting us, the other members of the alliance, are the reason why we performed badly in the by-election. We were supposed to be campaigning together as an alliance but he was was not available for us. We had enough resources, about $8.8 million yet we performed dismally. The electorate is not happy, some think we’re a project but we’re not. We have recommended that he be suspended, but it will be up to the alliance’s principals to keep him or endorse the suspension.
Bomani also said the MDC-T, a member of the alliance, has been recalling members of other parties in violation of the alliance agreement which notes that the recalling of members is the preserve of the party that fielded that individual.
He cited the recalling of Pasirayi Taurayi, a member of ZimPF, as a case in point.
Bomani said they approached MDC-T over the matter but their concerns were ignored, a “

Mwonzora Speaks Of By-election Defeat

By- MDC-T President Douglas Mwonzora said the party would go back to the drawing board and re-strategise.

Mwonzora failed to get a single seat in the Saturday by-elections.

The MDC-T leader told reporters in Harare Monday that their strategy was wrong.

He said:
Lionel Messi misses a penalty. Maradona misses a penalty. So strategists can get strategies wrong as well.
We are also going to look at other things like messaging, the particular strategy we adopted in this election which is different from the strategy we have used traditionally. We got our strategy wrong.
Meanwhile, some parties in the MDC Alliance attribute the loss to his approach.
Zimbabwe People First Secretary-General, Marakia Bomani earlier told Pindula News that Mwonzora made unilateral decisions that in the end cost the alliance.

Mwonzora Wants To Work With Chamisa

By- Opposition MDC-T leader Douglas Mwonzora said he was open work with the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) led by Nelson Chamisa.

Mwonzora said that the condition was about “their attitude towards us.”

He made the remarks during a press conference at the Harvest House.

The presser was held in the aftermath of the Saturday by-elections in which the party failed to record a single win.

There were 28 National House of Assembly and 121 local government seats up for grabs. Addressing reporters, Mwonzora said:
The MDC has always said that it is prepared to work with all progressive forces for the total liberation of our people fir the total democratisation of Zimbabwe.
Regarding specifically working with Advocate Chamisa and his team, a lot depends of course on them and their attitude towards us.

Speaking on the loss Mwonzora said the party will go back to the drawing board and re-strategise. He said they got their strategy wrong. He said:
Lionel Messi misses a penalty. Maradona misses a penalty. So strategists can get strategies wrong as well.
We are also going to look at other things like messaging, the particular strategy we adopted in this election which is different from the strategy we have used traditionally. We got our strategy wrong.

Zodwa Loses US$44K To Worker

By- Harare business lady Zodwa Mkandla lost over US$44000 to an employee who was allegedly manipulating the cost price of airline tickets to her own benefit.

The suspect, Juliet Chibweza, was not asked to plead when she appeared before Harare magistrate, Yeukai Dzuda.

The complainant is Mkandla’s company, Traverze Travel, represented by Precious Mutunzi, one of its directors.
She is Zodwa’s daughter.
Chibweza is employed by the company as a travel consultant whose duties include attending to customer queries and sending quotations to clients.
The court heard that in August last year, Traverze received an agent debit memo, which was a penalty for manipulation of figures for airline tickets, and was slapped with a US$13 000 fine.
The company conducted internal investigations and they picked up that Chibweza was undercharging the airlines while taking the full amount from clients.
The company started monitoring transactions she was making and, as they were doing spot checks, it was discovered Chibweza had issued five tickets, which had been paid for in full.
She had, however, handed over US$1 300, instead of the US$1700, she had received from the client.
When checks were made on the system, it was found out that she had stolen US$44 627, which was meant to be the agency’s commission. H Metro

Gamecocks Stun Ngezi

Chicken Inn coach Joey Antipas believes their game plan worked perfectly as his team won 2-0 over Ngezi Platinum on Saturday.

The Gamecocks cruised to their first ever victory at the Baobab Stadium courtesy of Bret Amidu’s first half brace.

Speaking after the match, Antipas said their main task was to take Ngezi’s play marker Denver Mukamba out of the game and restrict him from getting too much space.

The plan worked well and the midfielder failed to bring the spark and was subbed off in the second half.

With Mukamba struggling to get the space, Madamburo’s woes were further compounded when their front line lost McDonald Makuwe, who received a red card just after the half hour mark.

“I am happy, this is indeed a rare win for us here (at Baobab Stadium) since Ngezi came into the Premiership,” Antipas told reporters.

“We had a good game-plan to cancel out Denver because he makes them tick.

“Without Denver, Ngezi are average and I must say (Richard) Hachiro did a good job, he neutralised him.

“After getting good goals through Brett, it was about managing the game in the second half because we knew they would come back hard at us.”- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Why Mnangagwa Can’t Win 2023 Polls

Tinashe Sambiri|Vibrant pressure group Team Pachedu has pointed out that votes from the young people will propel President Nelson Chamisa to victory in the 2023 Presidential Election.

According to Team Pachedu, the Zanu PF leader Emmerson Mnangagwa will be defeated by the “generation factor.”

Team Pachedu said in a statement:
“Focus on the 1.61 million youths who did not register to vote in 2018.

Focus on the 1.5 million new youths who turn 18 from 2018 to 2023.

That’s a total of 3 million new voters!

ZEC manipulated the voters’ roll resulting in many voters failing to vote yesterday(Saturday)

illegally moved them to the wrong wards without following due process.

Many voters failed to vote yesterday because their names were not on the voters’ roll despite having voted successfully in 2018.

ZEC changed polling stations and moved voters across wards and constituencies without following the law.

ZEC commissioners must all resign.”

DeMbare Returning To Glory Days ?

Dynamos coach Tonderai Ndiraya has admitted they went into the match against Harare City under pressure after their main title rivals won their matches on Saturday.

DeMbare cruised to a 2-0 win over the Sunshine Boys, thanks to second half goals from Frank Makarati and Brendon Mpofu. The victory was their fourth in a row.

Speaking after the game, Ndiraya said: “I must be honest that we didn’t have it easy.

“Harare City were tactically good and that made life difficult for us especially in the first half.

“It was also a difficult match from the physical point of view, but in the end, what is important is to win.”

He added: “It’s always difficult to win games especially when we work for Dynamos because all the teams normally bring their A-game when you play against them.”

The result put the Glamour Boys in second place with 19 points, three behind leaders Chicken Inn after nine games.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Antipas Plots Ngezi Platinum Downfall

Internal Fights Cost CCC Epworth Seat

By Jane Mlambo| Citizens for Coalition Change (CCC) candidate for Epworth Earthrage Kureva lost the seat to Zanu PF’s Zalerah Makari because of internal fights spearheaded by the party’s Epworth chair Damson Damson, it has emerged.

Damison admitted that he was eyeing the seat for 2023 and Kureva’s loss would boost his chances.

“We don’t want him, we never wanted him here. I am eyeing that seat for 2023,” said Damson.

So intense was the enmity between the two that Kureva had to bring outside election agents fearing that local polling agents would be influenced by Damson to rig for Makari.

“Kureva is an outsider and he couldn’t even employ our youths to be elections agents. He came here with his own people and citizens we were not happy about it,” said Damson.

However, investigations showed the former Member of Parliament had to make last minute changes after discovering that Damson instructed party supporters not to vote for Kureva.

“In Ward 6 and 7 Damison was spotted by observers instructing CCC members to vote for Zanu PF candidate. Kureva performed badly in those wards,” said an inside source.

Damson accuses Kureva of sponsoring one Norbet Makoni to stand against him on the chairman’s post.

“Kureva is divisive. He has been sponsoring rival candidates to usurp power from us. He did that in Ward 6 where he was fighting our councilor Batanai Masunda,” said Masunda.

Ironically, those wards are where Kureva performed badly giving credence that he was indeed sabotaged by local CCC leadership in Epworth.

Efforts to get a comment from Kureva were fruitless as his phone was not getting through.

Kureva is one of the first people to be recalled from parliament by Douglas Mwonzora after he publicly showed his allegiance to CCC president Nelson Chamisa.

After garnering over 26 000 votes in 2018 election, he only managed just over 8000 votes compared to Makari’s 10 000. The election was marred by voter apathy and many people were turned away on Election Day after ZEC tempered with the voters roll. Makari whose victory is being celebrated by Zanu PF’s former G40 godfathers Saviour Kasukuwere went on a vote buying spree the night before the election, dishing out mealie meal and promising cash to the electorate.

Bosso Overcome Yadah

Dynamos continued their winning streak with a 2-0 victory over Harare City in the Castle Lager Premiership Matchday 9 encounter at the National Sports Stadium on Sunday.

The Glamour Boys have now won their last four games, thanks to second-half strikes from Frank Makarati and Brandon Mpofu.

City tried to set an early pace, but Dembare soon found their feet, with Ralph Kawondera missing a good chance on the fifth minute. Alex Orotomal followed up with another glorious opportunity, but this time, goalkeeper Kelvin Shangiwa was called to action to tip the effort over.

The home side never threatened in the first half as they created a few attacks that were easily thwarted by Dynamos’ backline. They only turned up the heat early in the second half, with Clive Rupiya superbly denied by goalkeeper Timon Mvula.

However, the momentum did not last long, and the Glamour Boys were back dictating the pace towards the half-hour.

The visitors took the lead when Makarati headed in Godknows Murwira’s ball-in from a freekick on minute 55. They doubled the lead eight minutes later through substitute Brandon Mpofu, who received a cutback from Bill Antonio.

Evans Katema could have made it three moments after but wasted a good move with a blocked shot.

On the other end, City remained quiet for the remainder of the game to finish it with a 2-0 defeat.

In Bulawayo, Highlanders returned to winning ways with a convincing 3-0 win over Yadah.

Bosso went into the match on the backdrop of a 1-1 draw against CAPS United last week.

They cruised to the victory through first-half goals from Lynoth Chikuhwa and Nqobizitha Masuku, plus a 78th-minute strike courtesy of Washington Navaya.

Elsewhere, FC Platinum played to goalless draw versus Manica Diamonds, and WhaWha lost 2-3 to Cranborne Bullets.

Manica Diamonds 0-0 FC Platinum
Harare City 0-2 Dynamos
Highlanders 3-0 Yadah

President Chamisa Bemoans Intimidation Of Rural Voters

World TB Day Statement

CCC Galacticos Reality Check For Mnangagwa, Mwonzora

Inside the 4th Chimurenga

By Stephen Sarkozy Chuma

28-03-2022

Having been birthed to the political world on 24 January 2022 , the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) in just 2 months 2 days performed a Herculean political feat yet to be witnessed on our shores.

On 26 March 2022, the newly formed citizens centred political outfit cruised to victory in a mini election that is surely going to set the tone as we go towards the 2023 general election.

It is important to point out that these by-elections were birthed as a result of senseless recalls of people’s representatives by Douglas Mwonzora. Despite being oiled with the stolen loot from the Political Parties Finances Act money, Mwonzora, MDC T or is it MDC Alliance failed to garner even a single seat from the 122 local government seats and 28 Parliamentary seats on offer. It was a mediocre and dismal performance from a party whose national chairperson, Morgan Komichi recently claimed that over 62 000 people attended their campaign rally at the Zimbabwe Grounds in Harare.

ZANU PF, a party formed in 1963 with all its experience in electoral contests since 1980 only managed 9 Parliamentary seats and a handful of council seats. Not even boreholes, banning of CCC rallies, ZEC antics and violence and murder of CCC members could save ZANU PF from the jaws of defeat by the CCC Galacticos.

It is important to note that there is a deliberate attempt by ZANU PF to frame CCC as old red wine dressed in yellow wine skins. Some quarters, even surprisingly suggested that CCC lost seats they previously won to ZANU PF.

All of a sudden proponents of such talk have deliberately lost their memory on the fact that CCC is a new party with new logos, symbols, colours and culture. The Change Champion in Chief, Advocate Nelson Chamisa consistently pointed out that CCC is a new political outfit from the day he announced it right through the campaign period of these by-elections.

The citizens made a big statement on Saturday. They successfully recalled Mwonzora from the political matrix of this country, wrote his political epitaph and will bury him forever come 2023.

CCC is the new game in town!

the comment box you know the people log in from australia, new zealand all sorts typing in the comment there
0:19
it’s a quick news review right now as we’re looking into what has happened in our country today on sunday
0:26
douglas monzora suspended by his own party and uh
0:31
also here in our catchment
0:37
of analysis of your witnesses Christopher Mutsvangwa the zanu-pf
0:43
information secretary celebrates the by-elections by saying that zanu-pf
0:48
has gained zanu-pf has eaten into nelson chamisa’s party
0:55
the full article is on ZimEye and many others today that we’re going to discuss of yours witnesses and i’m joined here
1:02
by our news analyst who is a critic of the ccc party what has been for quite a
1:08
while now will be oh but people don’t like you because we’ll bet you and you know why you know
1:13
why people don’t like you no yeah
1:20
and we’ve got people here coming in we’ve invited some of some some leading people but you know and the characters
1:28
okay yeah i’m gonna speak here shortly so um we’ve invited a few few key people
1:34
that you’re gonna be joining us here in and out um but quickly here douglas mozart has
1:39
been suspended by his own partner and there’s a letter that’s already
1:45
published you can check it on ZimEye and it is an authentic letter by the way he’s been suspended but wilbert let me
1:52
come back to you before we tune in here we’ll bet yesterday nelson chamisa’s party proved it we’ll
1:59
bet you’ve been a critic for a while here you’ve been saying uh chamiza needs to get
2:05
um reforms and you’re not happy that chamisa has
2:11
failed to secure reforms even okay look at the family says not in power but whatever right but
2:16
yesterday chamisa proved it that you can win in rigged elections he
2:21
won the rigged elections yesterday what do you say about that orbit
2:28
yeah but simba simba we should not forget those seats that he won he had won them
2:35
in 2018. are we saying then that the 2018 elections were free fair and credible
2:42
no but my point is he’s proved it i mean the evidence of rigging wilbet was so so
2:49
so clear so graphic so elaborate so so vivid right and chamisa contested
2:56
chamissa lost the people who got one person was killed with it people got
3:02
brutalized it wasn’t easy it was such a violent bi-election period and yet
3:07
nelson jamison were inside the very bloody election
3:13
by-election full of threats from from both munangaga and chewenga and also wilbert so much
3:20
tampering by the zimbabwe electoral commission serious serious brutal tampering here will be moving about off
3:27
of polling stations fiddling with figures changing removing
3:33
the entries or people who had voted wilbur that was so clear this was so
3:39
blatantly uh broad vote freaking rupert but
3:45
he did win at least the majority of seats will get more than 60 percent
3:51
yeah i totally agree with you but simba
3:56
you you you should not miss the point i’m trying to make the point is elections should be free
4:03
fair and credible yeah the number of seats that you misa
4:09
won in yesterday’s elections most of those seas are the same seats
4:15
that he’d won in 2018. in other words those were his strongholds
4:21
if we were to go into the rural areas where zanu-pfs got their uh
4:28
vote rigging machinery is a well oiled
4:34
and and and the people uh literally sex in in the rural areas they are captive
4:40
of sanopio he failed to make inroads say because the vote ringing is still
4:47
a big issue there and that is the point i’m trying to make
4:53
if elections were free fair incredible i honestly believe
4:59
the opposition would have won those elections clean out made a clean
5:05
a clean win everywhere and we are coming next year to the to
5:10
the 2023 elections if zanu pf is still able to carry out
5:15
some of the uh shenanigans that we saw yesterday i believe even if that
5:23
ccc were to win the majority yes zano pf would become the opposition
5:30
with a significant number of seats not because people voted for the
5:35
vasano pf but because they were able to rig that is what is that issue there
5:42
that our election results does not reflect the true will of the people because the npf has still got this
5:49
incredible cut blanche powers to league elections
5:54
that is what is uh at issue we want free fair incredible elections
6:02
and we don’t want any of these shenanigans we don’t want to be talking about the
6:07
various shenanigans of zanub what’s up if we’ve been doing to rig elections we want to be talking about policies
6:14
that is what we should be analyzing here simba whose policies won the day
6:20
at the present moment yesterday’s people did not vote for policies because nobody
6:25
articulated any policy it was purely
6:32
the desperate desire by the zimbabwean people to have
6:37
regime change to get rid of the nopf that is now the focus of the nation it
6:45
should not be that should not be the focus of the nation the nations will be focusing on
6:51
what are you offering how are you going to get the country out of this mess that is what i’m talking about there
6:58
so it’s not a question of i support mdc or i criticize mtc because i suppose i’m
7:04
not i don’t support xanopf i’ve always criticized i’m not here for wreaking elections
7:09
and i want but but do you agree though yeah yeah but you do agree bet that um
7:16
there is a there’s a there’s a dis sometimes it can be a very very
7:21
um a very very vivid disconnect between what is ideal and what is practical of
7:28
course what is ideal right now is having reforms for reforms being implemented what is practical is that under nangagwa
7:36
yeah it’s makes it impossible so we can’t blame jaminson for there not to be reforms
7:56
the voice of the opposition now well i can
8:02
hold a mirror to you simba and ask you the question is uh chamissa de chamisa tried to
8:08
implement reforms ever since this npf was sort of mdc and uh and and chamisa got
8:15
into power that is what we have got to ask there they’ve been the opposition of the mdc has been in
8:22
the opposition for the last 22 years if they’ve been trying seriously to
8:28
implement reforms so that we end this culture of political violence and the
8:35
shenanigans that i think was going to ask
8:42
we’ve got a key veteran um chamisa member here who’s been there since 1999
8:50
who also participated in the 2008 elections um exposing the election rigging in 2008
8:57
he is very vocal and the successful a successful activist um of of chamisa’s party shepard yuda
9:06
who’s just joined us mr Yuda here is a question from wilbert directed at you
9:12
he’s saying hey uh james is he tried to
9:17
implement my reforms sorry mr simba uh mr kansas
9:25
i i don’t understand which reforms uh is he referring to here
9:34
sorry can you hear me
9:39
very perfectly rupert is saying my electoral reform so we’ve just been having an argument with wilbert here it
9:45
looks like uh these guys
10:02
just try to increase volume
10:08
i think you know he was he was tortured so he’s got he’s got some hearing issues
10:14
he wants one portrait so he’s got some hearing issues so i’m going to try and scream can you now hear me mr yuda
10:22
can you now hear me see you can you now hear me
10:27
is it better is it better now
10:33
um is it better now i think he’s come out yeah yes
10:43
someone is saying here um chamisa must not preempt his it’s his strategy now he’s really trying nelson chamisa how
10:50
was he given an opportunity his hands are tight which shenanigans are you talking about it’s easy to criticize from afar reforms
10:58
are successful success so we implemented
11:04
this there’s an answer for you to you a bit well i i think i think in this
11:10
particular case what i can say is people like to die they clearly haven’t understood what the
11:17
2008-2013 jnu was about you know and i think that is an argument
11:22
that some people have heard repeating over and over again if you haven’t understood
11:28
what the 2008-2013 jnu was all about then you’ve got a serious problem because you
11:35
definitely have not been following the the political machinations in zimbabwe
11:41
we can’t keep on talking about something that happened in 2008 and you still don’t understand that
11:47
the 2008 to 2013 gnu was primarily
11:52
for implementing the democratic reforms necessary to make sure elections are free fair and credible
11:59
there’s a there’s a there’s an answer to you a bit by sydney gombe they tried they actually tried a lot mr
12:06
wilbet why can’t you just appreciate the good things chamisa has done
12:11
yeah when you say they tried how did they try the 2008-2018
12:19
global political agreement it was a golden opportunity to implement those reforms how many reforms did
12:26
mtc implement we cannot pretend that they implemented any meaningful reforms when they did not
12:34
that’s why we are still in this mess you know i think it is an imperative uh
12:40
uh thing that people should understand why are we in this mess if you
12:45
understand why we are still in the mess then you can start thinking of how to get out
12:50
because if you don’t understand why you are still in the mess you yeah yeah that’s going round and round in cycles
12:57
no meaningful reforms were implemented during the gnu that is effect
13:03
that even people like chamisa will never deny you can you you can have them on
13:08
this platform simba you can have any of the other mdc leaders who were in the gnu they will never ever
13:16
deny that they fail to implement reforms some of them have admitted they failed
13:22
to implement reforms but they don’t want to talk about it because like all politicians they don’t want to admit
13:28
their failures their shortcomings but that is not helping the nation move forward
13:43
um i i had been cut there wilbert can you hear me now yeah i can hear you yeah well but um do we agree that chamisa
13:51
here is he’s in a worse situation than zelinski
13:58
Chamisa is in a worse situation than no i i think you’re not being realistic
14:04
i’m not being realistic no no i think i think you if you look in the situation in Ukraine
14:10
that is a situation that that is hell
14:16
when you’ve got such a powerful nation attacking you
14:22
is not being attacked by the new people yes
14:31
yeah but you can’t compare it to what putin is doing in Ukraine
14:38
where i’m coming from is this you see where you have a situation where zielinski gets support he gets support
14:45
from it then and this is like proper proper you know support at a at a forced level okay
14:52
he gets support from outside okay chamisa doesn’t have all that chamisa has someone who is inside okay
14:59
and putin is in foreign coming from outside Chamisa has inside the country that he lives in
15:06
a real real military threats not just that he has a real military violence
15:13
against him left right and center and he has people who are being shot
15:20
who are being killed women who are being raped wilbur many times no one knows about what’s
15:27
happened things are just done there’s no support either from inside or outside this is
15:34
where i’m coming from wilbur it also will be look at it here the person who is going after chamisa
15:41
yes it’s not putin but rubert wubert
15:46
right now if you look at it in terms of statistics the person who is after jamison
15:56
has killed more people than those who have been killed
16:01
in Ukraine more than 30 000 have been killed so far and not just that with it this person
16:09
has announced that he is going to kill more people that he is in the business
16:15
business majority not just to decimate them at a
16:21
political level remove them from parliament from from all other other other sectors of government okay
16:28
but he his own his own daily preoccupation is that of killing
16:35
anything and everything that is called opposition and he even announces with his own mouth a little bit not
16:42
politically but in a literal direct legal sense once you are part of the opposition
16:49
number one once you are part of the majority you are now a corpse come on wilbur if we
16:55
compare chamisa with zelinski is chamisa not in a worse situation than zelensky
17:01
because he doesn’t have support in many of the attacks that come against him
17:08
people don’t even know about it it’s just swept under the carpet that’s my question to you
17:15
now i think i think in this particular case we we we we should uh uh accept what is zimbabwe
17:24
not only to mesa the people of zimbabwe themselves they’re in a serious situation
17:29
you know when you’ve got 50 percent of the people living in object poverty
17:34
i’ve got i’ve got relatives i speak to right now the other day i was speaking to one of
17:40
my my cousins and they were telling me that one of our cousins is seriously sick in zimbabwe
17:47
and you can’t even get panadol in this day and age that is a tragic situation to the family
17:55
concerned but if we are going to start comparing zimbabwe with
18:00
uh the situation ukrainian is we we we we cannot pretend what is above the
18:07
situation is is worse than that of Ukraine yes for the individuals who like
18:13
that cousin of mine who is seriously sick and we can’t even get panadol for her and from much my cousin was telling
18:20
me it is terminal it is a tragedy to the family
18:25
you know life lost any human being we suffering
18:31
to the point of you know the suffering that we see in zimbabwe it is a tragic situation
18:37
but we should not try to to to to to say one situation is worse than the other
18:46
just because we are the ones who are experiencing it i hate to see zimbabwe
18:52
being attacked by a country like like russia like what
18:58
is happening in Ukraine you know the situation that is happening in zimbabwe is one that we can
19:04
address if we get around doing it ourselves and most of it is is it
19:11
internally it’s a it’s an internal problem
19:16
what you’re talking about he is a zimbabwean and we are the ones who gave him
19:22
that extra uh dictatorial powers
19:27
we have failed to address the problem of the bad governance in zimbabwe and we
19:33
need to address that problem you know and that is serious whereas if
19:38
you look at Ukraine what what did the people of Ukraine do to putin
19:44
to deserve to be attacked nothing other than that they wanted to be
19:50
you guys just come in here um sorry you know we just moved in we’re just comparing chamisa and zelensky and i dropped here
19:58
my proposition that chamisa is in a worse situation than zelinski i’m hoping we can get someone from zanu-pf to speak
20:04
with us what are your views on this yeah definitely is in a waste situation
20:11
than that Ukraine gentleman the Ukraine gentleman has got all the asano he has
20:16
he’s been fought and he’s fighting you understand if you look at james has been fought and
20:23
fought and default he never fought back so that put the situation uh uh in
20:30
chamissa in in a wasted position than someone who can be able to defend himself militarily
20:37
when attacked so president has been attacked by the middle the military
20:42
he’s been attacked by the police he’s been attacked by the youth militias has been attacked by the
20:50
state operators when i say state operators i mean the ciaos included the
20:55
army included the police included the youth militia included the air force
21:01
included the prisons included all these are all state security operators which
21:06
have been attacking an innocent man who doesn’t even have a catapult so he is in a waste situation than the
21:14
ukrainian guy the ukrainian guy is fighting big you understand
21:19
i think that’s what i can only say this juncture well my my question to you would be did uh
21:28
mdc have the opportunity to implement the democratic reforms which would have
21:34
stopped the police uh of you being presented by the pf
21:41
yeah i think i think if we dwell in mdc politics we
21:48
are not going anywhere we left mdc politics we left the dramas behind
21:53
so let’s talk from now onwards going forward that if president chairman is given
21:59
opportunity to to to to do some reforms what is he going
22:06
to do because the mdc politics you know that that is a political dead political part
22:12
which was badly infiltrated to the extent that people in the central intelligence uh concurred that it was a
22:19
poorest political party so let’s start from where we started and then move forward
22:25
well maybe poorest it was maybe it was infiltrated that that that that point
22:31
probably is is a valid point but the fact still remains that you and me we
22:36
cannot completely deny our background our history where we came from
22:43
just as much as ibm nagawa tried to say with his uh um
22:50
after the coup that he had a second republic and tried to divorce himself what had happened during the the mugabe
22:57
time he cannot run away from that he was mugabe’s henchman for 34 years 77 years
23:05
you know we cannot pretend that he had nothing to do with with what was happening during his time he was the one
23:12
who who who spearheaded the coup in 2008
23:17
he was the one who was behind the the kokura wounded us he was the one who was
23:22
behind all the corruption and mismanagement that was happening in zimbabwe the last seven years
23:29
and for him to just turn around and say ah this is the second republic let the big ones be back once and we are
23:35
supposed to pretend would he he is somebody who is
23:40
totally innocent give him another chance a clean slate that is absolutely
23:45
maintenance yeah you cannot deny nangagwa was a dictator before during the
23:53
the mugabe era and he has carried that through in fact he sees the the second
23:58
republic there was no transformation that took place the same applies to twitter missa
24:04
just because they changed this the color of the court he’s wearing from red to yellow we are supposed to pretend
24:11
because yes it’s been totally transformed no that is totally that argument doesn’t wash with me
24:18
yeah i think the problem is the mistake you are making here is the make is the mistake of comparing
24:27
two different scenarios here managua has been in the ruling part for
24:33
over 43 years and they had the powers to initiate all the reforms that they
24:39
wanted but they were in control of everything beginning from the government
24:44
so if you are talking to an opposition political member who was never part of a ruling party
24:51
who had never held substantial powers to to initiate those reforms
24:57
then this becomes two different scenarios two different scenes at all so
25:03
they are incomparable you can’t compare the two this is why i’m saying president chamisa
25:10
has been at the helm of the mdc for almost two or three years only
25:15
and nanga has been there for 43 years so we have we we can’t compare the two they
25:22
are incomparable let’s find a different scenario to compare to not like why charmisson can
25:30
make reforms what he has got no powers to make those reforms because he hasn’t
25:35
been in a governing position so we are trying to match two scenarios
25:40
which are totally different you know the truth the stories are not totally different
25:47
the government of national unity was a government you know
25:53
it was a government mdc had the majority in in parliament
25:59
they’re the majority in cabinet what reforms they implement we cannot
26:05
keep on hiding behind the finger you were in government during the gnu it
26:12
was a government of national unity whose primary papers was to implement the
26:17
democratic reforms sandra was the guarantor of that
26:23
government of national unity and they tried to get the up the the the mtc uh
26:30
guys to implement the reforms we have got to give credit where credit is due such a deep try
26:38
and if you speak to any of your uh mdc leaders ask them
26:44
did you have the opportunity to implement reforms during the gnu if they are being honest with you they
26:50
will tell you yes we did but we we took our eyes off the ball that is the reality we’ve got to address
26:57
we cannot keep on pretending but it didn’t happen i think i think you’re still continuing
27:04
making errors making mistakes of comparing two incomparable scenarios
27:10
if we are talking of political reforms and you are talking of mdc having
27:18
majority in parliament i don’t think you are you you you exactly know what the
27:24
majority in parliament is for you to pass a view in parliament you have to have two third majority if you
27:31
look at 20 2009 2013 government of national unit
27:36
mdc had no two third majority so that is incomparable
27:42
they cannot influence any police especially in regard to implementation
27:48
of political changes with a less than two-third majority and as we know
27:54
zanu-pf always whip its members of parliament they don’t they don’t think
28:00
they are willing to think what the leader does no the government of national unity had
28:06
nothing to do with you need two things to pass anything any reforms could be proposed by any
28:14
member of parliament any member of parliament could have prevented proposed reforms yes how many
28:20
reforms did they propose sorry sorry sorry
28:26
i need to answer him i need to let’s please think about it please right do you understand that in parliament when
28:33
something is proposed it goes to voting this is where the two third majority
28:38
comes from not during the gnu that was a government of national unity
28:45
it did not have a ruling party and an opposition party that was not nothing to do with today’s
28:52
majority you are still still making same errors to say there was no ruling part you’re
28:58
still making same errors you understand do you know how many how how the
29:04
ministries were shared if you are saying there was no ruling party do you know how the ministries were shared how was
29:10
the ruling answer this question how many ministries did mdc have and how many ministries did
29:18
xanopf have i think i think mtc the two mtc
29:25
functions that more ministers than how many how many ministries do they control
29:30
remember but what does this matter in terms of reforms
29:37
who proposes so if you can’t remember that you cannot also remember with that there was a
29:44
ruling party it was if you remembered how many ministries they controlled then
29:49
you can easily remember that there was npf was a ruling party during that time considering how many how how the
29:56
ministries were shared so how many point your point my friend it was a government
30:02
of national unity there was no ruling party no opposition government of
30:10
who doesn’t understand what the government of national unit was he wanted to give to to preach to me
30:16
that it was a the a normal government where you’ve got a ruling party
30:25
to pass anything during the gnu the gnu was made to
30:31
accomplish certain tasks it wasn’t the normal government so please don’t don’t try to to to
30:37
lecture me about something that clearly was there that was the one point of the
30:43
global political agreement yes
30:48
we are not different we are not differing in that it was a national gov national government of uh whatever you
30:55
call it but you we are disagreeing when you say that there was no ruling part
31:02
that’s where we disagree zanu pf is the two third place majority
31:07
in parliament he didn’t zanno pf did not have two things
31:12
majority my friend yes i i’m all right can i ask you questions i i asked you one simple
31:19
question how many ministries were controlled by mdc you said you don’t know
31:26
how many mysteries why
31:32
the question that i’m asking you here is a clear question that indicates which was a ruling part which controlled the
31:40
majority of the ruling party that is what you are missing completely
31:45
there was no ruling party there was no opposition that is why they called this okay
31:50
there was no opportunity if there was no opposition how many ministries did mdc controlled
31:58
and how many ministries did zanu-pf control well where they shared 50-50
32:05
yeah about 50-50 i think yeah so so you see now you you lack knowledge
32:11
on that so you can’t debate on that definitely you tell us how many ministers did zanu-pfeiffer
32:18
how many ministries were there no i just asked you how many ministers
32:24
did they have just tell us the answer then
32:37
yes that’s the reason why i am telling you we cannot debate on that because it’s
32:44
incomparable we need to first start where chiamisa is now moving forward
32:50
because that was changed right era which has got nothing to do with chamissa and
32:56
let’s talk about chamissa’s reforms from now going forward was if we want go to
33:01
go back to yusuke you you don’t know what with the setup during government of national you need
33:08
and you can let me tell you let me just bring you up
33:14
to scratch my friend the government of national unity
33:19
it doesn’t matter which party you belong to you were in cabinet
33:25
if it was the ruling parties i know pf it will have its own all the ministers will come from zanu-pf period
33:33
why would they want to bring in somebody else i asked you that
33:38
that doesn’t really matter it’s totally different you’re very stupid you want me
33:43
you need it members of parliament to propose reforms so don’t don’t come back
33:48
and talk about where the majority in cabinets
33:55
if i would if i could if i could if i could interrupt fox and maybe and i’m hoping that we could we could
34:02
settle this particular argument and we move to now because the people of zimbabwe would
34:07
also like to hear how what what it is that they can bring food on their table
34:13
government of national unity if we are ever going to talk about
34:18
mdc’s participation or james’s participation in the gnu wilbert
34:24
and and and you die here could we expand my my requests could we expand so that
34:30
we are really fair to go back to 1987. so if we’re going to point fingers
34:36
at chamisa or whoever here let us let us look at zimbabwe
34:42
holistically let’s go back to 1987 because there was another gnu which was done in 1987
34:48
okay with joshua cuomo and then we see performance here we judge
34:54
nelson chamisa by performance but i want to just maybe throw a question here to
35:00
both of you gents judging chamisa being chamisa okay and
35:06
his grouping let’s not give it a name i know we would want to call it mdc want to call it ccc let’s just call it the
35:12
chamisa group okay chamisa and his group
35:18
in this period from 1987
35:23
up to 2022 when we’re talking about putting pressure on the system for reforms
35:32
how would you rate and and i’m hoping that we can have one word answers from both of you so that we can maybe move on
35:38
to our present day um stories that we have here how would you rate nelson
35:43
chamisa um no let’s let’s first rate uh the the the leaders and como under
35:50
the the first gnu okay how would you rate them when you were to judge the first
35:57
opposition of this country since 1980 how much work
36:03
what was their performance how would they rate their performance coming to the topic of putting pressure
36:09
on zanu-pf4 reforms the first opposition of this country where would you put them one being poor
36:17
10 to being good i’m talking about just pressure here not so much um achievement
36:22
as in real change eventually took place we were talking here pressure
36:28
to put um for the system to be cornered for reforms where would you put
36:35
the first opposition under joshua one is to we’ll start with um
36:41
let me start with judah one is to ten the first opposition yeah i’ll put it in
36:47
two you put it at two okay and then nelson chamisa where would you put it
36:53
no in terms of what in terms of the pressure yeah just measuring pressure for reform
37:02
i’ll put him on one you put chemist on one
37:07
okay well uh they
37:13
when when joshua just your rating that’s your rating let me just clarify that point
37:20
when the unit accords
37:27
joshua was no longer talking about reforming xanopf he was now part of san
37:32
appears he wasn’t reforming zanu-pf
37:37
so how can you say equity what how much pressure was he putting to reforms that he wasn’t reforming that opinion he was
37:44
an opf okay but how would you i would how would you rate him from 1980
37:49
because there was a time when he was exclusively an opposition yeah but as opposition
37:56
as contrast to how would you yeah how would you rate him orbit
38:02
before during and after or before purely as an opposition he was effective
38:08
as an opposition he was effective okay yes so so you’d put him at 10.
38:14
well yeah yeah i could put it if you want 10 out of 10 yeah okay thank you then show me somewhere would you put him
38:20
signs grouping where would you put him as reforming in terms of reform
38:29
it’s not even one
38:38
okay thank you so now let’s let’s let’s jump to the to the by-elections all right it’s interesting to get all these
38:43
different responses from both of you let’s jump to the by-elections here the by-elections i think you would agree
38:49
both of you that they are a reflection of pressure to the system to reform where would you rate the performance of
38:57
nelson chamisa in this last this by-election this by-election period here
39:03
you’d one is to ten ten ten okay whoop it
39:10
up are you still there
39:17
just this by-election period here on its own yeah but what reforms did they implement
39:23
that is what we’re talking about pressure pressure i mean could we could we really judge
39:28
chamissa for actual actual um performance in terms of reform um because he doesn’t have the power to
39:36
reform but i’m talking about just someone who is working with putting pressure on the system to reform
39:41
in this last by-election period here we’ll bet where would we put chamisa
39:47
i don’t know at best one you put him at one yeah a best
39:54
right okay it’s interesting you know this is an
40:00
ongoing discussion let’s keep it running of yours witnesses quickly uh robert i
40:05
don’t know folks did you see the letter um by monzora sorry the letter that is saying monza has been fired
40:13
i’m sorry suspended myself yeah
40:18
okay you haven’t seen it okay you said you you you saw that the letter yeah i saw it that’s the first thing
40:24
that caught my eye right you know the first question that i have from people is this authentic you know
40:32
assassins
40:46
with that later because that later is stipulating uh
40:52
it doesn’t have like sections to say you can prevent we signed we signed um
40:58
an agreement uh for you then we contravened this section of the agreement it’s not citing anything you
41:04
mean yeah yeah it doesn’t show anything the titan would say he had been suspended because
41:10
he violated the detection of the agreement right
41:16
i don’t i think it’s just it’s just a fake letter to put him under pressure because he is he
41:23
the problem with the moon is that he does not know
41:28
his duties whether he’s a person whether he’s a spokesperson of the party whether it’s
41:34
the treasure he doesn’t know where he where his powers start and end
41:39
you understand so other other other members of the alliance who are
41:46
there they’ve all become subordinate to him and useless so it’s a one-man band
41:53
operate and uh at that letter i don’t see it being a genuine letter anyway you know because
42:01
what do you think about that later oh you haven’t seen he said you haven’t seen it by the way okay no i mean i’ve i’ve heard you just mentioned but you
42:08
got honesty in this particular case if if if monzora was was being honest
42:14
this is what a one would expect you know he went into this by-election
42:21
confident that was going to make an impact and let’s face it mtc
42:27
uh t as he calls the party and the ftc alliance as he calls the coalition
42:35
his performance was absolutely dismal you know and then this particular case as a leader you’ve got
42:43
to accept a responsibility for it and then stepping down is the most logical thing you should do
42:50
and i had to be good on this in terms of zimbabweans i think once or is has proven himself to be uh
42:58
totally incompetent and many zimbabweans have lost confidence in him and in this particular case resigning is
43:06
really the most logical thing to do for him i don’t know whoever will take over from
43:11
him where they could take the parties because i think now mdc
43:17
t is you know has lost a completely lost direction
43:27
um right and then um folks uh our last two items here before we
43:32
shut because i promise we’re only 20 minutes we’ve stretched a bit here chris muchangua
43:38
and and chiyangwa analysis on on by-elections
43:44
did you folks listen to to the two uh christopher chandler and chiang wa what they’re saying
43:50
is that the bar elections are a display of how zanu-pf
43:56
has performed extremely well they’ve eaten into the opposition stronghold
44:02
we are now in the in the even in the urban areas this is what christopher chang said and and
44:08
shianga also echoed the same philip chiang and and and and then also
44:15
they said that the opposition split so they are reaping from the split
44:22
by the opposite i was hoping that we’re going to get we’re going to get ramuchang
44:27
available but opinion publisher it was published on zima what what do you say to these folks
44:40
my personal opinion is that the people of zimbabwe the elections were free fair incredible
44:47
i honestly don’t think this an opf would win more than
44:54
five percent of of the vote that’s right and popular the party is
44:59
becoming symbolic only those who are benefiting from the system or the their
45:06
relatives would fought for some peers many people would vote
45:12
for the opposition regardless of what opposition it is because people are desperate for change
45:19
and so this this uh statements by chiang wai and and uh and christian
45:26
sangha they are really trying to give the impression that i know pf is
45:32
still relevant in the country if the elections are free fair and credible zano pf would lose them they would have
45:38
lost them a long time ago there is only reason why is no pfp still
45:44
in power today is because zanu-pf has got cut blanche
45:49
powers to wreak elections that point has got to be made that point must be emphasized
45:55
and that’s right that is the point that we should be seriously looking into going into 2023.
46:03
right we’ll see you down yes
46:11
and right now we have
46:39
we talk of someone who doesn’t want people to understand him every time when
46:45
he speaks was what he knows he speaks a rubbish so he tries to hide behind these
46:52
big words to try and say look he’s an educated man but the purpose of communication is to
46:59
make people understand tessa tree with zimbabwe used to think you’d get a dictionary analysis and talk
47:05
these vocabularies so i’ve seen muchangua being useless in
47:12
zanu-pf this is why muchang was always sidelined by zanu pier he has never won
47:17
an election because he does not communicate with the people in a manner
47:22
that people understand what he wants to say at the end
47:29
of seoul first of all when i talk about by elections in zimbabwe
47:35
uh muchawa is one of the culprits when we talk of
47:41
buy elections in zimbabwe together general elections
47:47
positions of parliament
48:04
and they claim that they’ve won that constituent that has happened for
48:09
quite a lot from a different uh by-elections it’s attacking so zanu-pf
48:15
made a miscalculation to say look we are going into this by election and they
48:20
tried that idea of bringing people like what they used to do all along buying
48:26
them food
48:31
you know um so they have done it for quite some time
48:37
this is a shock to them about elections but this time we have lost all of them
48:46
i can say i can simply say all of them because sanupi of guanajuato are 20
48:51
20 by elections in a a political party you know one month old if you one month
48:57
old under one a an old political party like zanukiv
49:11
they haven’t started anything and the shock is there for them 2023 they will
49:17
be dismantled
50:20
foreign
50:39
um yeah right um i want to quickly upload here uh folks as we end uh
50:44
crucially here there’s an important i think mr uda if you would agree with me
50:49
uh this is a crucial suggestion a program here that has been suggested
51:00
um
51:05
so we have uh some of our members pano
51:11
pazim i um one here let me just put it up i apologize paneer
51:18
in the pan up so that we see it uh let me just bring it up here okay here we go
51:24
i think it is this one here and and i don’t know what um both of you think about this
51:30
okay so hanzi panda papa honestly um there will be any i don’t think
51:35
there’ll be any funds or support from central government to support projects in those constituencies where ccc lost
51:42
therefore people need to come together regroup and financially support these councillors and mps to develop their
51:49
communities 2023 my two cents i personally am prepared to
51:56
be allocated a constituency that i can start supporting with developments
52:01
wow mr yudha that’s one of our ladies varun
52:07
uk up about united states logistics right now please we need to start like right now
52:13
because centimeters ahead residents are now being refused access to that water commission five days ago by that idiot
52:20
pardon my language i am angry about the tower in india one one constituency attained the eoe i
52:26
want to i want to give a quick quest so we’ve got quirkway here mr Yuda this is practical action mazda bob when
52:33
diaspora now are coming up and they’re saying let’s get together and let’s adopt constituents and start
52:38
supporting doing fundraise to cheetah cheetah
52:44
practically and and so one person has already taken a constituent and i’m thinking of giving
52:49
her quick way i want to give her the quaker constituents yes settlement chiquinya because he came he asked for
52:56
help and i think the next person who’s going to volunteer i’ll give him i’ll give that person saint mary’s
53:02
and i think saint mary’s is for jobseeker am i right mr ed yeah
53:09
you’re right what do you what do you think about this initiative folks um wilbur this is practical zimbabweans are
53:16
now coming come together saying look i’m going to take a constituency um yeah
53:21
constituency and i’m going to be funding it like indeed in their gandhi one this is one person here who said she’s
53:28
gonna take a constituency so we’re starting here what do you think about this little bit
53:33
well i mean if if if we are all in a position to do that why not go ahead and do it but what we
53:41
are also should be looking at here simba is that are we not undermining the whole
53:46
principle of free fair incredible elections are we not also encouraging
53:52
how would this how would this be undermining orbit
54:00
can punish you because the the xanopf lost in a particular
54:06
constituency that is part and parcel of the watering
54:12
because they’ve got to think about it also in terms of even those areas where there are no pfs won if they are going
54:19
to start pouring uh all the financial assistance in those areas
54:24
then it emphasizes the point with the elections in zimbabwe if this npf loses
54:30
the people in that particular constituency will be punished
54:36
that is undermining the whole principle of free fair and credible elections
54:41
people should be able to devote with the confidence that they will
54:47
their will is their democratic right
54:53
is this undermining in your view do you think it undermines the choice
54:58
supporting people yeah in this fashion i don’t know but did you see the video
55:04
of a girl a young girl who is speaking ku saint mary’s and she’s saying that
55:11
um now that now that you know the the elections are over they
55:16
are no longer allowed to drink water unless they’ve got a zanu-pf card from a boho
55:23
so if if if i can adopt a constituent of my own okay i’m gonna take i’m gonna take
55:29
one from uzumba okay inini right and and by the way it doesn’t have to be all my
55:35
personal money i can run around europe you see my institutions my organization but i need the cheat so
55:42
that nearly one i’m supporting this constituency is this undermining
55:47
democracy judah and you know
55:52
no i don’t think it’s undermining democracy it’s another form of
55:58
promoting democracy because the development that you are going to initiate is not going to
56:04
benefit the opposition alone it will benefit even the ruling part supporters
56:11
so there is no way we can say it undermines democracy
56:16
we as zimbabweans and if chance arises to assist our country we need to do that
56:24
and it doesn’t undermine any democracy at all i think i’m being clear here if there
56:30
are people willing to assist these migrants not in the name of zanu pf but in the
56:36
name of of assisting the country so that the country people can see
56:42
that we have got people who can assist us that does not undermine democracy
56:49
but but then there’s a there’s a contribution from lord zamakoni so we’re saying adopting a constituency doing
56:54
that will promote looting and suppress accountability um of the government from
56:59
their national responsibility and duties to the general public
57:07
if the case here you were talking about where uh because saint mary’s was uh won
57:13
by the opposition and then zano pf is saying you are not going to drink from from a poor hole
57:19
because you voted for for the opposition that is totally illegal that should be
57:25
condemned you know and that should be denounced straight away we shouldn’t be saying we
57:31
we will drink another ball somewhere where those
57:36
people can can fresh water from that is what is happening in fact that is at
57:42
the very heart of the of our failed political system because in the rural
57:48
areas that is exactly what zanopf has been doing all these years you get food you get agricultural input
57:56
by producing as an op card we’ve all known this happening all along
58:01
yesterday that was also what was being reenacted again and again
58:08
during the the the by-election that is what is wrong with our political system
58:14
we are we should address that problem that is what should be addressed people should be able to go into an election
58:21
vote with the confidence that their will that democratic will is their right
58:28
they will never be in any way punished for exercising it
58:36
when you are once you are elected you represent everybody it does not you don’t want to represent those people who
58:42
voted for you you represent everybody if you are the government of the day you represent everybody in the country
58:49
including those who didn’t vote for you that is the essence of democratic
58:54
elections and that is what we should be enforcing in this particular case
59:04
folks we’re going to need to be to be ending shortly here we’ve got a crowd of over 800 people watching right now it’s
59:11
late in the night mr youth it’s nearly 11 o’clock i think you can see people are really burning um about their
59:18
country and and and i’m asking here are you there are you listening would you like to adopt a constituent
59:26
as an individual god one we’ve got a lady here who has taken a constituency
59:33
and what does this mean this means i’m going to be practically it doesn’t have to be my money okay yes in indonesia
59:40
just a hundred pounds but i will run around my organizations mumma institutions are
59:46
here and look for people who can help and i’m helping people not because they are they
59:52
are ccc or they are zanu-pf or there’s an donga okay or
59:58
or whichever party i’m helping our people because they’re zimbabweans and they’ve been subjected to slavery of a
1:00:05
brutal regime where they are not even allowed to drink water unless they produce a stupid
1:00:11
xenopia card
1:00:26
would you like to give us your closing remarks um briefly 30 seconds we’ll bet you give
1:00:31
us 30 seconds as well what do you think here about this particular
1:00:37
initiative that has been started panapa on and also and we’re talking this
1:00:43
initiative of adopting constituents uh where we have seen here one lady taking one constituent okay we’ve given
1:00:50
a quick where we’ve given a settlement to queen as constituents okay and we’ve got another person here
1:00:55
who’s taking another constituents what do you think about this in the future of zimbabwe and the matrix of our politics
1:01:02
lastly here where do you see nelson chamisa standing you’re closing remarks
1:01:07
folks 30 seconds 30 seconds with john and justin will be back here tomorrow
1:01:14
um i think it’s a good idea so that people can adopt constituents and
1:01:20
assists where possible but they have to try to be very careful not to play in some pf
1:01:26
hands because we are not the only people assisting the nani government organizations are assisting but look
1:01:33
naga was throwing them out he’s saying because they are assisting which as
1:01:38
their assistants would prop up the opposition and for president nelson chamisa
1:01:46
there are no two ways about it 2023 you are in the in the status you are in
1:01:53
the office you are the president of zimbabwe by 2023. so we look forward for
1:01:58
you not to burn these unup moralities not to burn any jews not to burn people
1:02:04
want people to eat because of political uh reasons so those are my closing remarks i’m
1:02:10
expecting good president from president knows which he has shown for the past two years
1:02:16
those are my closing remarks thank you very much sir we’ve got another person here gloria casey has
1:02:22
adopted saint mary’s amazing so i’ve got three constituents that have been abducted tonight she’s going to put up
1:02:28
all cause and mellies because saint mary’s right and i will allow all ccc uh people to
1:02:33
fetch water every person must speciate gloria case
1:02:42
um we must show love to all zimbabweans what do you think will be your 30 seconds please so three three
1:02:49
constituents have been taken tonight already i think i think adapting these positions
1:02:55
and doing any help you can to to the to the country is useful but what i would
1:03:00
like to remind everybody is that one of the problems we have here is that people in zimbabwe are now so
1:03:08
helpless that they depend on on handouts on aids that is the tragedy of zimbabwe
1:03:14
zimbabwe is an incredibly rich and resourceful country the people are hard working people they will
1:03:21
earn their own life and dignity if we give them a chance
1:03:26
to do something with their own lives
1:03:32
that fail failure to do so is because of the zanu-pf regime the dictatorship of the
1:03:40
last 42 years that is the dictatorship we should be trying to stop because as long as these
1:03:47
bad governance we will be looking at more than 50 percent of the people depending on aids
1:03:55
from uh the generosity of fellow zimbabweans in
1:04:00
the international community no one wants to to to to to live on age
1:04:07
i people take great pride in giving somebody not always receiving
1:04:12
you know and i think that is something that we should emphasize here and we can get out of that wall by becoming a
1:04:20
democratic country that is the most important thing that people should focus on
1:04:26
change the country free the country and the corruption people will be
1:04:31
self-reliant people will be prosperous
1:04:38
thank you sir i’ll stop there wow well here we are bears witnesses here um yeah
1:04:45
we’ve got a very a confident crowd of a total 700 people still watching but this is the end of our discussion of those
1:04:51
witnesses if you’re watching this video later on and you want to adopt a constituent just let us know which one
1:04:57
or if you want us to find you one who get you one particularly the royal areas one one that you yourself will be the
1:05:03
chief fundraiser you will put together money you will hear me you will fix whatever it is so that our people are
1:05:10
respected or people are being treated like like sex toys like excuse me like any
1:05:16
like like like pieces of of nothing and and zanu-pf and
1:05:22
pop corrupt politicians are forcing them but it’s not everything we know of very very respectable
1:05:30
as i know politicians but we’ve got some corrupt people who are just controlling resources
1:05:36
so um this is a big initiative if you want to participate just let us know tomorrow we are back here mongoan 7pm
1:06:13
folks it’s been a great meeting it’s been great speaking tonight
1:06:19
yeah do press the share button and let’s keep the conversations going let’s uh let’s press this let’s share let’s chop
1:06:26
these discussions send them into the raw area so that people can know and our viewers witnesses this is our commitment
1:06:32
so that we help to strengthen our democracy and just as we shut right now
1:06:38
listen to this is a snippet of what we do my folks our gents here mr yudha
1:06:45
and mr mukhori thank you very much tonight for coming up so that we discuss
1:06:50
these things these vital things about our country sir thank you very much
1:06:56
thank you folks of the new year 2021
1:07:01
igorema sports is the year of my sport stuff that’s just too good to be true
1:07:06
happening before your eyes on their own join chief diwani today as he finishes
1:07:13
my sport zimbabweans have this year witnessed the
1:07:18
greatest fall of any head of state since cecil john rhodes and the shutting down of tyranny that
1:07:25
has held the nation back for decades the victory now requires only a small
1:07:31
push to finalize it so that we as a people can have a proper democracy
1:07:38
in sports we saw msm nanaga’s being rejected by the world body fifa
1:07:44
a terrible state of affairs in religion the cults that have for decades corrupted politicians and stretches
1:07:52
across africa under the banner of the likes of walter magaya and tb joshua
1:07:57
lost major high court cases following successful investigation journalism
1:08:05
would lasted for five years plus this means that the courts will now hear the pile of cases of rape complainants
1:08:13
who have been hushed up who stretched from lagos right down to harare
1:08:19
in the region as a whole for the first time we witnessed eminence in nanagwa fall
1:08:25
down like the great lucifer himself and his stranglehold over what used to be northern rhodesia is now zambia was
1:08:32
removed no more no more will maneuver control the nation of zambia again even though
1:08:40
the human rights director dera mavinga who announced the fall of nanagwa
1:08:47
died a suspicious death that alone has not stopped zimbabwean’s
1:08:53
quest to continue the push forward to get that democracy for the first time
1:08:59
in history we witnessed a head of state who has not allowed free movement like
1:09:05
other presidents at any time begging to enter a scottish risky party
1:09:13
but was banned by the developing citizens in the united kingdom getting to the point of literally
1:09:19
telephoning tv whistleblower separate at the trades hall building asking to
1:09:26
enter that whiskey drink but was refused resulting in the supporters vandalizing
1:09:33
judea’s car in retaliation if in doubt there is a video uh with
1:09:38
regard to this uh and what happened to judy’s car following this message
1:09:45
as a result of the thuggery in the climate change the british police have
1:09:50
opened a case now to investigate eminem and his supporters over crimes committed
1:09:56
currently and also crimes committed since 1983 to the current date for the
1:10:02
first time in history police forces across europe have opened cases to investigate emerson managua
1:10:09
and the early rain rituals during the period of 1983 to 2020 this is a big
1:10:16
development for the zimbabwean legal history uh system that we have since the days of rotation the zimbabwean problem
1:10:24
is not a problem about politics or islamopf but it is about ritual practices by emerson nanagwa and his
1:10:32
majority the fall of managua in this way is the greatest achievement for zimbabweans
1:10:38
since independence in 1980 we have for the first time in 41 years
1:10:45
the united nations rejecting emerson managua from flying
1:10:50
for their general assembly this has never happened before since the
1:10:56
days of rhodesia a head of state not allowed to attend that august building
1:11:02
inside his own political party we have witnessed the primary elections
1:11:07
with atrocious atrocious figures amid the worst voting rigging you can
1:11:12
imagine and for the first time in 41 years there are traditional leaders
1:11:17
traditional leaders speaking out against nago’s government over 10 such traditional leaders
1:11:24
including his own uncle coming out to speak out against nanowrimo
1:11:30
these are changing times so how many more institutions have rejected nanagwa
1:11:36
in 2021. we have un fifa zimbabwean chiefs even his own family and this is
1:11:42
not to mention the financial services the likes of imf and world bank all
1:11:47
who reject him totally and completely more and more zimbabweans now enlighten
1:11:52
the fire the flame for freedom for themselves a democratic country
1:11:58
under the rule of law requires a totally independent strong media
1:12:06
in order to exist as a result of your support for this news network’s investigative reports
1:12:15
more and more is now possible imagine if you will the legal strides
1:12:21
that could have been done at glasgow cop 26 with just 100
1:12:27
contribution please consider seriously supporting so that the nation continues to feed
1:12:34
from an independent strong vibrant journalism that we all need

turning into prostitution for instance into drugs and the like because they’ve been made to feel and to think that
1:15:18
they’re worthless people are being forced to buy zanu-pf cards just to drink a cup of water from a poho that’s
1:15:25
how humiliating our people have been made by
1:15:31
corrupt people so you can play your part you’re watching right now wherever you

Xenophobic Attacks Have Been Contained: Zim Govt

The government has claimed that the xenophobic attacks targeting Zimbabweans that erupted in Robertson, Cape Town, South Africa have been contained.

Last week there were reports that Zimbabwean citizens were being attacked by South Africans, who accuse them of taking their jobs. The attacks left most Zimbabwean nationals hospitalised.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade spokesperson Livit Mugejo confirmed receiving reports of attacks in Robertson, Cape Town revealing that some  Zimbabweans were injured during the skirmishes.

“Our Consulate in Cape Town gathered information regarding the anti-foreigner’s violence in the Robertson area which took place the same day. The Consulate gathered that a group of South Africans teamed up and started to attack Zimbabweans accusing them of taking their jobs. The affected Zimbabweans fled their homes and sought refuge in bushes and some took refuge at police stations,” Mugejo said.

“Information we have to date is that the disturbances have since been quelled by the police and we are happy that the violence was contained and the affected Zimbabweans have since returned to their places of abode.”

Mugejo added that they were in contact with the citizens in South Africa through the embassy in Pretoria and consulate in Johannesburg and Cape Town, adding that the government had been assisting with the repatriation of Zimbabweans who wish to return home.

“In regard to the recent attacks in Cape Town, our offices are in regular touch with Robertson Police Service and Zimbabwean residents in SA through their representatives,” he said.

“The ministry is always ready to assist Zimbabweans whenever there is need. We would like to urge all our nationals to report all incidents of this nature whenever they occur to their nearest embassy offices so that they can be assisted.”

Military Officers Surround Vice President Of Sudan’s Home – Reports

Various news reports from South Sudan on Monday morning alleged that the Vice President of that country has been surrounded by soldiers following his public complaints that the military are abusing members of the opposition.

Reporters were still searching for a comment from the government at the time of writing.

Founded in 1983, the South Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA) which was founded as a guerrilla movement against the government of Sudan in 1983 following the Second Sudanese Civil War, led by John Garang, has remained a challenge to the nation’s politics.

Masvingo Pupil Commits Suicide After Being Summoned For Hearing

A 16-year-old school pupil at Ndarama High School in Masvingo died after he drank poison after he had allegedly been summoned for a hearing by school authorities.

The incident which happened on Wednesday last week became the fourth suicide case in two weeks in the province, with police expressing worry over people resorting to suicide
to solve their problems.

Masvingo provincial police spokesman Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa confirmed the
death of Ronald Chirongwe (16) of Rujeko and the death of a 25-year-old man
Richard Zvitupa who committed suicide after a misunderstanding with his wife.

“On 22 March around 3am Chirongwe ,a Form 3 pupil at Ndarama was seen vomiting
by his younger brother, a 10-year-old who rushed and told their mother Tichaona
Bhadhara (44).

She observed that her son was in pain and rushed him to the Masvingo General
Hospital. Chirongwe was treated and was discharged.

On 23 March in the morning Chirongwe died. The matter was reported to the police
and they discovered that there was a Pepsi bottle which had a strong smell near his
bed and the substance is yet to be identified. The body was taken to Masvingo
General Hospital for post mortem,” he said.

In a separate incident, Zvitupa of Chisango village, Chief Mukangwani, Bikita, had a
misunderstanding with his wife on 19 March and the wife threatened to report the
matter to the police. Since the day, Zvitupa is said to have been sending suicidal
messages to his relatives.

“On 23 March around 7am Zvitupa went to look for his wife at his nephew Nomatter
Mutero (26)’s home. He sat at the veranda and drank an unknown concoction.

Zvitupa started vomiting and wallowing moving from the veranda to the yard where
he fell down. Jacob Mutero who was at the house came out and discovered that
Zvitupa was having difficulties in breathing. Zvitupa died before he could get any
assistance.

The body was taken to Silveira Mission for post-mortem.”

Meanwhile, in another incident Brian Zaru who was a Masvingo Teachers’ College
student is said to have committed suicide on March 23.

Zaru who is reported to be attached at Gokomere High School drank rat poison at the
Masvingo Civic Centre. This follows an incident where a 16-year-old Masvingo girl
committed suicide last week on Monday after she was reprimanded by the mother for
failing to do household chores.

“People should not consider committing suicide as a solution but should be able to
share their problems with others,” said Insp Dhewa.

Zim Debt Crisis Reaches Critical Moment

Zimbabwe has reached a critical moment in terms of its debt obligations as serious violations of constitutional provisions of public finance management continue unsolved.

Deliberation at this week’s Zimbabwe Coalition on Debt and Development (Zimcodd) and African Forum and Network on Debt and Development (AFRODAD) media initiative show that no steps have been taken to authorise unbudgeted expenditure in violation of Constitution of Zimbabwe Amendment (No 20) Act of 2013, section 300 which limits State borrowings, public debt and State guarantee.

Nothing was also done with regards to the violation of Public Finance Management (PFM) Act [Chapter 22:19] of 2009 Sections 61 which sets a 30% threshold for government debt and 40% for guarantees.

Currently, the government’s overdraft at the RBZ exceeds limits set in the RBZ Act of 2010 while public debt exceeds the limit set in the Public Debt Management Act [Chapter 22:21] of 2015 with respect to the 70% debt to gross domestic product ratio. Zimbabwe also exceeded Southern African Development Community protocol on finance and investment benchmarks of 60%.

Transparency International Zimbabwe executive director Tafadzwa Chikumbu said the government’s ambitious Vision 2030 would remain a fallacy unless the debt issue was resolved through a holistic sustainable and inclusive debt management framework.

“The country has reached a critical moment and needs to wean itself off the debt trap and associated macroeconomic stagnation. The government’s ambitious Vision 2030 will remain a fallacy unless the debt issue is resolved through a holistic sustainable and inclusive debt management framework. The national debt should, therefore, be viewed and treated as a symptom of the wider structural and political challenges inherent in the economy.  Dealing with these challenges will form an integral part of a sustainable debt strategy,” Chikumbu said.

Without addressing the challenges inherent in the economy, Chikumbu said it would be difficult to prevent future indebtedness, adding that the government should simultaneously implement structural, political and sound macroeconomic policies as part of a sustainable and inclusive debt management strategy.

Zimbabwe has been in debt distress since 2000 when the country first defaulted on its external obligations.

Tagwirei Accused Of Funding Biti’s Rival In Harare East Parly Elections

Re-elected Harare East legislator Tendai Biti has vowed to resume his exposé of alleged corrupt dealings by businessman Kuda Tagwirei whom he accuses of funding his rival, Mavis Gumbo’s political campaign.

Biti was contesting against Zanu-PF candidate Gumbo and others in his bid to reclaim the Harare East seat.

Last year, Biti was recalled from Parliament together with Settlement Chikwinya, William Madzimure and Regai Tsunga by People’s Democratic Party secretary-general Benjamin Rukanda.

As Public Accounts Committee chairperson, Biti was vocal against Tagwirei and was recalled when he was about to reveal more details of the businessman’s involvement in the command agriculture scheme.

“We were facing a deranged candidate, but the real person we are fighting is Kuda Tagwirei. He was hiding behind the skirts of Mavis Gumbo, so he poured money into her campaign,” Biti told Citizens Coalition for Change supporters in his constituency after his victory was confirmed  after contesting under the CCC banner, where he deputises Chamisa.

“The real work is in Parliament, that is my strength. We are going against corruption, and we are coming for you Tagwirei, we are coming for you Billy Rautenbach, the land barons, the cartels we are coming for them.

“So, if you are Tagwirei, you better go to the bathroom because we are coming for you.”

Efforts to get a comment from Tagwirei were fruitless as his mobile phone went unanswered.

Tagwirei is a top businessman, who is believed to have strong links to the presidium, particularly President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his deputy Constantino Chiwenga.

“The real battle is next year. We are not going to stop, we are not going to demobilise. What was most disappointing about these campaigns was that there was violence, people were beaten, but it does not have to be like that,” Biti said.

Analysis Of The Just Ended By-Elections

By Reason Wafawarova| Let’s do the analysis for the 28 Parliamentary (House of Assembly) seats contested in the by election.

Firstly let me congratulate all the winners and implore them to carry out their duties faithfully, loyally, truthfully, patriotically, competently and whole heartedly knowing very well that beyond winning an election is the duty to serve the country and the people of Zimbabwe in moving the country forward.

Let me wish those who came second best to the best in their political endeavours in the future. Democracy entails that we test the wishes of our people through the casting of votes and thereafter we all accept and respect the outcome of the people’s wishes, supporting those mandated to represent our people.

So we had 28 vacant parliamentary seats, the majority of them being vacant because of recalls of incumbent MPs from the MDC T, and others because incumbents died or vacated to take up other appointments.

Out of the 28 seats contested 20 formerly belonged to the MDC T and 7 to Zanu PF, while one belonged to the NPF, an offshoot party from Zanu PF internal power struggles of 2017.

The CCC, a breakaway new party from the MDC T won 19 of the 28 seats while Zanu PF won 9, gaining 2 seats from their tally in 2018.

Zanu PF tallied 76 355 votes in the 9 constituencies they won, and the CCC polled 24 307 in these constituencies they failed to win. The difference in votes here is 52 228.

In the 19 constituencies that the CCC won they tallied 105 492, with Zanu PF trailing them with 51 864 votes. The difference in votes for the 19 constituencies is 53 628, only 1 400 higher than that of the 9 constituencies won by Zanu PF.

There is a difference of 10 consciences in favour of the CCC.

The cumulative vote for the CCC is 129 799 and that of Zanu PF is 128 399. The difference is 1 400 and yet Zanu PF only won 9 seats.

The bi-partisan vote was 258 198 and the CCC won 50.27% of that vote while Zanu PF won 49.72%.There are a few things to note. The CCC is only weeks old and they did extremely well, but not surprisingly, given the by election were largely in the opposition traditional strongholds.

Secondly the figures show that Zanu PF has the mobilising capacity to win big in their strongholds and also to narrow the margin in the opposition strongholds.

2023 is going to be exciting and I know for a fact that Zanu PF is going to engage big brains to work around these voting patterns ahead of 2023.

Equally I think the CCC will push ahead with encouragement after the boost of retaining or recovering seats lost to needless court battles in the aftermath of Tsvangirai’s death.

MDC Alliance Fires Mwonzora

By- Opposition, MDC Alliance has suspended its leader, Douglas Mwonzora, hours after the alliance lost the just ended by-elections.

The MDC Alliance did not win even a single seat out of 28 National Assembly and 121 local government seats that were up for grabs. In a letter, Marakia Bomani, ZimPF SG & Secretariat Alliance Coordinator said:

RE: SUSPENDED FROM SPEAKING OR CONDUCTING MDC ALLIANCE BUSINESS.

This letter constitutes official notice of your suspension from speaking. representing or conducting MDC-Alliance business in any form, shape or capacity for gross violation of the MDC Alliance’s Non-Competent Alliance agreement of the 5″ of August 2017 and its Amendment. Your suspension is with immediate effect till further notice

On and around January to March 2022, you violated multiple sections of MDC Alliance’s agreement of the 5′ of August 2017 and the Non-Competent Alliance agreement amendment I of the 5th of January 2021. The MDC Alliance was well funded by Mr. and Mrs. Tax Payer but under your leadership, our candidates nationwide failed to win at least one single polling station. You are a disgrace Mr. President.

We are aware of the fact that you are the leader of Opposition in Parliament. Therefore, the alliance Secretariat in consultation with the alliance executive, will be making extensive consultations with Parliament, our legal team and Government seeking solutions on how we should progress with your case.

We wish to reiterate that the decision on whether to return you as the MDC. Alliance President lies with the MDC-Alliance Principals. Kindly be advised that your conduct and performance Justify our action.

You have no moral rights to appeal against this decision.

Thank you.

Yours sincerely

Wounded Mwonzora Chops Down 16 Chamisa Councilors

MDC-T President Douglas Mwonzora has recalled 16 more councillors.

Chamisa Wins By-elections, Sinks Mwonzora

By- Opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) led by Nelson Chamisa prevailed in the 26 March By-elections, winning 75 out of 122 (61.5%) council seats and 19 out of 28 (68%) Parliamentary seats that were up for grabs.
The party’s overall performance was 64.75%.
The rest were won by the ruling Zanu PF.
Out of the 28 parliamentary seats that were up for grabs, 20 were won by the opposition MDC Alliance in 2018 of which 18 fell vacant by recalls (by MDC-T), 2 by death.
Of the 28 Parliamentary seats, Zanu PF won 7 in 2018 of which 5 fell vacant by death, 1 by a recall and 1 by resignation.

The remaining 1 was won by the National Patriotic Front and it fell vacant by death.

ZEC Official Dies At Polling Station

By- A Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) female presiding officer collapsed and died Saturday afternoon while carrying out designated election duties at Chipadze Primary School in Bindura, Mashonaland Central.

The presiding officer, whose name was not released, collapsed while she was on duty in the mining town and it could not be ascertained, by the time of going to print if she had been complaining of any illness when she reported for duty. National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident in a telephone interview last night.
“We had an unfortunate incident at Chipadze Primary School in Bindura where a presiding officer just collapsed and died. We are still assessing if there are any other reports, we will give to the media tomorrow (today),” he said.
He said the body of the deceased presiding officer was taken to a local hospital.
“The presiding officers’ body was ferried to Bindura Hospital Mortuary. We are yet to find out if she was not feeling well. We will be guided by the medical experts. It’s an unfortunate incident,” said Asst Comm Nyathi.

Turning to the voting exercise, Asst Comm Nyathi said there were isolated cases of misconduct where one person was arrested after casting his vote in Sunningdale, Harare.
“We have one person who was arrested in Sunningdale 2 in Harare. The person came to cast his vote, he went through all the voting procedures and he was given his ballot paper. After casting his ballot paper, he came out of the booth and he took a photograph of his ballot paper indicating where he had put his vote,” he said.
The man, unbeknown to him, was being watched by alert polling officers who quickly alerted police who arrested him. Zec issued a statement yesterday on the prohibition of taking pictures of marked ballots during an election.
“The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission notes with concern that some voters are taking photographs of marked ballots and sending them on social media.

This is in contravention of the Constitution which protects the right to security of the ballot,” wrote Chief Elections Officer Mr Utoile Silaigwana. He said the provision was put in place to protect voters from victimisation.
“Voters are advised that this constitutional provision is in place to protect them from victimisation and is an internationally recognised right which the Commission endeavours to protect, voters are thus advised to desist from any actions that might compromise this right and the integrity of the electoral process,” he added.
Mr Silaigwana however, emphasised that the general public must be aware that taking photographs inside the polling station is prohibited and constitutes a criminal offence in terms of Section 30 of the Electoral Regulations S.1.2.21 of 2005.
However, Asst Comm Nyathi said when polling stations closed at 7pm the voting process in terms of security had been very peaceful.
“We want to urge the public that they must remain peaceful, they must continue to co-operate with the police so that we have the environment remaining conducive for forthcoming elections,” he said.

Chamisa Celebrates CCC By-elections Victory

By-The opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) has thanked Zimbabweans for voting for his party in the Saturday by-elections.

The party leader Nelson Chamisa said the by-election results indicated that all authority comes from the citizenry.

He speaks as results released by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) have revealed that his party prevailed in most constituencies and wards where elections were held.
He said:
This by-election has shown that ultimately all authority comes from the CITIZENS. Citizens are above politicians & their foolish politics. Why did you waste national resources taxpayers’ money? Would these resources not have been deployed to better our health, education sectors?
The by-elections were held to replace 28 members of Parliament (MPs) and 121 councillors who died and those who were recalled from office.
Most of the recalled were members of the MDC Alliance led by Nelson Chamisa. They were recalled by rival MDC-T following a 2020 Supreme Court ruling which ruled that Chamisa was not the legitimate leader of the MDC that contested in the 2018 elections.

Chamisa saw the recalls as a strategy by the ruling ZANU PF to dismantle the opposition in the land. They accused MDC-T of acting at the instigation of the ruling party.
Following the Supreme Court ruling, the government gave funds under the Political Parties (Finance) Act to the MDC-T in proportion to the MDC Alliance vote of 2018.
The development has infuriated the Chamisa-led party, believing it should receive the money since Chamisa contested the 2018 elections, not Douglas Mwonzora.

Tagwirei Sponsored Biti’s Opponent

Re-elected Harare East legislator Tendai Biti has vowed to resume his exposé of alleged corrupt dealings by businessman Kuda Tagwirei whom he accuses of funding his rival, Mavis Gumbo’s political campaign.

Biti was contesting against Zanu PF candidate Gumbo and others in his bid to reclaim the Harare East seat.

Last year, Biti was recalled from Parliament together with Settlement Chikwinya, William Madzimure and Regai Tsunga by People’s Democratic Party secretary-general Benjamin Rukanda.

“We were facing a deranged candidate, but the real person we are fighting is Kuda Tagwirei. Cattle Thieves

Govt has launched a crackdown on police officers linked to organised cattle rustling syndicates that operate along the Zimbabwe-Botswana border leading to the arrest of some suspects and their subsequent dismissal.

A number of officers have also been redeployed pending investigations. Theft of livestock, which is a growing challenge for people along the Zimbabwe-Botswana border, prompted President Mnangagwa to set up an inter-ministerial committee to tackle rampant cross-border cattle rustling.

The move was in response to concerns raised during the recent third session of the Zimbabwe-Botswana Bi-National Commission (BNC) in Victoria Falls. The committee was given up to April 30, 2022, to contain the situation.

Emmerson Mnangagwa and his Botswana counterpart, President Mokgweetsi Masisi, last month oversaw the signing of several memoranda of understanding (MoUs) covering various sectors during the third session of the BNC.

Zimbabwe and Botswana agreed to expediate the establishment of base camps along the Mlambaphele border which they said should be fully resourced and be in sync with the ones established on Botswana side.

The inter-ministerial committee comprising Ministers Kazembe Kazembe (Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage), Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri (Defence and War Veterans Affairs), July Moyo (Local Government and Public Works) and Mangaliso Ndlovu (Environment, Climate, Tourism and Hospitality Industry), Professor Mthuli Ncube (Finance and Economic Development) and Dr Anxious Masuka (Lands, Agriculture, Water, Fisheries and Rural Development), recently visited Mlambaphele Border Post in Gwanda District in Matabeleland South to interface with the affected communities.

The province continues to record high cases of stock theft with areas like Tshanyaugwe Nhwali, Mlambaphele, Guyu, Manama, Mankonkoni Rustlers Gorge and Ngoma being identified among the hotspots.

In an interview yesterday, Minister Kazembe, who chairs the committee, said the crackdown on police linked to cattle rustling followed concerns raised by the affected communities.

“What we can promise the affected communities is that Government is definitely doing something to curb the scourge. As I speak, some of the police officers involved or linked to the cattle rustling have been shown the door while others have been transferred to other stations,” he said.

“Some of them have since been arrested and investigations are still going on. Those arrested will appear in court soon. A lot is happening to address that problem and as directed by the President, by April 30, 2022, we would have done a lot to try and curb that scourge.”

Minister Kazembe could not give the figures of those arrested. “I don’t have the actual figures of the arrests but what I can say is that the majority of those who were working in that area, although not caught on the wrong side of the law, have been transferred,” he said.

Minister Kazembe said various ministries, which are part of the inter-ministerial committee, are working towards addressing the challenges.

“There is a lot that is happening behind the scenes since the inter-ministerial committee was set up. After our visit to Mlambaphele Border Post to have an appreciation of the challenges that the local communities are facing, we prepared a report, which will be presented to Cabinet,” he said.

“We have also come up with some recommendations as to how we should proceed in dealing with this issue in line with the directive by the President.

Something that we have already started doing is setting up police bases and work has started to see how best police can have communication gadgets.”

Minister Kazembe said Government has adopted a zero tolerance to cattle rustling and warned that those involed will be arrested.

“We will, with the help of local communities, do all we can so that we stop this menace. In the spirit of re-engagement and good neighbourliness, we shall intensify our efforts towards our collaboration,” he said.

The notorious cattle rustlers change the brand marks of stolen cattle to evade justice. In some instances they slaughter the beasts and sell the meat to butcheries and individuals.

A large portion of the Zimbabwe/Botswana border fence has been destroyed by elephants making monitoring difficult for police.

Cattle rustlers sometimes drive stolen cattle across the border making it difficult for police to make follow ups. -Chronicle

Chris Mutsvangwa: As West PreOccupied in Military Imbroglio In Ukraine, Petty Chamisa’s Gloatful in Mwonzora Showdown

VICTORY FOR ZANU PF AS IT RETAINED ITS SEATS AND GAINED MORE. CHRIS MUTSVANGWA.

By Dr Masimba Mavaza | ZANU PF secretary for information cde Christopher Mutsvangwa has said ZANU PF has gained in the just ended by election.

In a statement after the results of most constituencies were announced cde Mutsvangwa said
“ZANU-PF is pleasantly relieved that it has kept and solidified its traditional support in the traditional rural bastions.

The Party of the Zimbabwe Revolution is most delighted that it made fresh inroads in MDC-CCC urban strongholds.

The internecine fights of the fractious MDC-CCC formations handed ZANU-PF a propitious chance to pick a few more national assembly seats and thus increase further the two thirds absolute majority in Parliament.

ZANU-PF also used the occasion to harvest a respectable clutch of local council seats.

It’s clear that two decades of MDC-CCC urban neglect, feckless maladministration, screaming corruption and putrid decay are all finally beginning to invite the wrath of the long suffering urban citizenry at the expense of Nelson Chamisa and his acrimonious cohorts.

Even more reassuring is the narrowing margins in those seats ZANU-PF lost. This speaks volumes of the resurgent support of the Party.

ZANU-PF is heartily encouraged by its catch from the MDC-CCC opposition ponds.

The electoral jury is out. Come the 2023 Harmonized Elections, ZANU-PF envisages an electoral tsunami that will drown the foreign spawned opposition and its reliance on alien sponsorship.

President EDM Mnangagwa has reason for a measure of smugness.

His hopeful message of urban renewal is hitting the tuneful chords in our towns and cities. The urban appeal of the mantra Zimbabwe Is Open For Business is energizing entrepreneurial flair.

The electorate sees President EDM on a spree of ribbon cutting of revived factories and their expanded production lines.

President EDM is hoping from one ground breaking ceremony to another as major infrastructure projects open up to global class investment in oil and gas drilling in Muzarabani, iron and steel ecosystem in Mvuma-Chivhu-Manhize, ferrochrome in Selous, Coking coal in Hwange, Platinum Group Metals on the Great Dyke and lithium deposits in Goromonzi and Bhuhera.

The resultant infrastructure dividend is seeing ‘yellow metal’ earthmoving, bulldozers etc in frenetic activity. The whole landiscape has been converted into a huge construction site.

There is a takeaway message for ZANU-PF Party. The Party of the Zimbabwe Revolution is recovering its urban spunk and completing its portfolio of national socio-economic and political appeal.

Kudos and gratitude deservedly go Chairman Priscilla Chigumba and focused and hardworking ZEC team. Unmiffed by detractors, they stuck to their statutory mandate and discharged their assignment in a sterling manner.

Zimbabwe democracy once more proved its homegrown mettle.

Perhaps to the shame of those meddlesome West now preoccupied with the military imbroglio in Ukraine.

Nelson Chamisa, true to pettiness is gloatful at his showdown with Mwonzora.

He is celebrating the win of this consolation price.

Indeed a paradox underscoring the vindication of the undisputed ascendancy of ZANU-PF on the Zimbabwe political stage.

He conveniently misses the point that the same election process that awards him the self adulatory win against his MDC-CCC adversaries is the one that equally lands him a drubbing from against.

Yet he has the temerity to disparage ZEC each time he opens his lips. All because the sulking and right wing fringe political elements in post imperial London and Washington are bent on never ever reconciling with independent, and assertive Zimbabwe.

Caps United Bury Students

William Manondo’s brace stirred CAPS United to their fourth victory of the season after beating Herentals 3-2 in a Matchday 9 encounter played on Saturday.

Monondo opened the scoring for the Green Machine at the half-hour mark following a prolonged cagey affair.

Rodwell Chinyengetere, who created the game’s only meaningful chance in the opening quarter, finally got his name on the scoresheet on the 45th minute to double the lead.

The Students, on the other hand, came on hard in the second half when they launched a quick comeback. Tafadzwa Jim pulled one back in the 58th minute before John Zhuwawu equalised against his former side a minute later.

With the match seemingly heading for a draw, Manondo hit the back of the net again to secure maximum points for CAPS United.

Elsewhere, Chicken Inn extended their lead on top of the table with a 2-0 win over ten-man Ngezi Platinum Stars.

The Gamecocks cruised to the victory courtesy of Bret Amidu’s first-half brace.

McDonald Makuwe’s send-off in the 33rd minute left Madamburo playing with a man short for the majority of the game.

Development Of Body Immunity

Summary

WHO’s Chief Scientists Dr Soumya Swaminathan explains how our body develops immunity against a new virus. How is immunity developed when we are infected with SARS-CoV-2 virus?

How is it different from vaccine derived immunity? Why is it important to continue to wear masks, ventilate closed spaces, avoid crowds, wash hands and observe all other precautions?

Chris Mutsvangwa: Victory For ZANU PF As It Retains Its Seats, Gains More

“CCC Has Failed To Penetrate The Rural Vote”: Nick Mangwana

Information Secretary, Nick Mangwana, has said the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) led by Nelson Chamisa has “failed” to penetrate the rural vote as had been anticipated.

He speaks as the results of by-elections held on Saturday 26 March 2022 show that CCC is winning mainly urban areas where the opposition MDC has traditionally won since its formation in 1999. Commenting as ZEC continued to announce the results, Mangwana said:

It seems like the “Colour Revolution” was a poor attempt at creating a grassroot(s) movement. It was all hype, no heart. All style, no substance All froth, no beer All bark, no bite All buzzwords, no facts. You have more? Please share.

Ahead of the by-elections, Chamisa toured all provinces where the elections would be held and thousands of supporters thronged to the rallies to hear him speak.

The huge attendance, even in rural areas known for being ruling ZANU PF’s hunting grounds, gave the impression that the newly-formed party (morphing from MDC Alliance) had won the rural vote.

It is bad news for MDC Alliance led by Douglas Mwonzora as they are yet to win a single seat

CCC Wins Majority Of Parliamentary Seats

By A Correspondent- Opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) led by Nelson Chamisa prevailed in the 26 March By-elections winning 75 out of 122 (61.5%) council seats and 19 out of 28 (68%) Parliamentary seats that were up for grabs.

Meanwhile, MDC-T leader, Senator Douglas Mwonzora has recalled 16 more councillors.

End Of The Road For Mwonzora’s MDC

D-DAY has arrived for the MDC brand, with the electorate expected to decide its fate, as analysts say the iconic party associated with the firebrand Morgan Tsvangirai may disappear into oblivion if it loses this Saturday’s vote as the odds remain in favour of the new opposition party, the Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC).

One of the most iconic opposition parties in Africa, by membership and visibility, MDC has over the past two decades become a symbol of defiance.

But as Zimbabweans go out to choose parliamentarians in 28 constituencies and more than 100 local authorities, there is belief that the MDC, which has for over two decades posed a threat to Zanu-PF, is now on its deathbed.

Saturday’s election is likely to hammer the final nail into the MDC coffin, as it is not expected to win a considerable number of parliamentary seats,  if any.

Party leader Douglas Mwonzora, who has wrested control of the iconic name, is largely responsible for the sweeping recalls of former MDC-Alliance MPs, but has failed to attract meaningful grassroots support and is now destined to see his party losing popular appeal.

While Mwonzora’s MDC-T is likely to go extinct after the election, his nemesis, CCC leader Nelson Chamisa, is basking in public goodwill as witnessed by massive turnouts on the campaign trail.

During an election like this, which is largely viewed as a precursor to the 2023 poll, wearing a red T-shirt (MDC party colour) would attract intimidation and state brutality but since the CCC was launched, yellow has become the real colour of defiance.

The CCC, which is only two months old, has surpassed expectations on the campaign trail despite a state clampdown and is expected to win most of the urban seats on offer.

The same cannot be said of the MDC which faces an existential threat: extinction. It has run its course. Reached a dead end. Its demise will be a tragedy for democracy, yet an opportunity for reconfiguration, re-alignment, and renewal of pro-democracy forces.

Formed in 1999 primarily by trade unionists led by its late founding leaders, fronted by Morgan Tsvangirai, Gibson Sibanda and Isaac Matongo, among others, the party was a broad church – with a wide range of ideological beliefs, values and opinions as well as competing interests – which included academics, professionals, particularly lawyers, civil society organisations and students, along with white commercial farmers.

Although rooted in local political conditions and a product of its environment, the MDC also had huge foreign support and backing. That is beyond reasonable doubt.

The MDC has virtually collapsed with MDC-T leader Mwonzora masquerading as leader of the now defunct MDC-Alliance playing the role of undertaker.

Mwonzora, aided and abetted by Thokozani Khupe, who is now his new rival, presided over the destruction of the MDC. Tsvangirai, Sibanda and Matongo, among others, and hundreds of MDC members and activists who died at the height of political combat with the late former president Robert Mugabe, who led Zanu-PF, must be turning in their graves.

To understand the reasons why the MDC has all but collapsed, one needs to look at the role of ideology in politics and society, as well as political ideas and movements. Aristotle believed man was a “political animal” because he is a social creature with the power of speech and moral reasoning.

Hence it is evident that the state is a creation of nature, and that man is by nature a political animal. And he who, by nature and not by mere accident, is without a state, is either above humanity, or below it; he is the “tribeless, lawless, heartless one,” whom Homer denounces – the outcast who is a lover of war; he may be compared to a bird which flies alone.

Being political creatures, people have ideological beliefs, even if those may not be coherent, be they liberal, socialist, or conservative, for instance. Ideological constructions are not rigid; they are variegated, complex and overlap – sometimes confused and confusing.

The MDC was ideologically and dialogically mixed, complex, and muddled. Although it had labour roots, its funders, white farmers, the business community and foreign governments and foundations, had different and competing ideological perspectives and agendas.

While it often purported to be a social democratic party, it neither practiced social democracy nor developed close with socialist, social democratic and labour parties.

It worked with parties ranging from social democratic to conservative; they were at home with Tony Blair and his New Labour party as they were with George Bush and his Republican Party. They transacted – sometimes literally – with both; with institutions like the Westminster Foundation in the United Kingdom and the Republican Institute in the United States.

While the MDC often appeared ideologically weak, amorphous and unclear, torn apart by interests of its left social base and the right constituting its funders, with pragmatism sometimes as its approach, some modern political thinkers have argued that ideology is dead, that no one believes in it anymore, and that conflicts no longer have an ideological basis as they were before the collapse of the Soviet Union and the fall of the Berlin Wall.

The MDC was initially funded by white farmers who opposed Mugabe’s radical and unstructured land reform (some television footage showing donations by farmers provided propaganda fodder to Zanu-PF and Mugabe) and that created internal tensions, dramatised by the leftist lawyer Munyaradzi Gwisai’s quitting of the party.

While Tsvangirai started as a humble servant of the MDC, he was fast elevated by those around him, exercising collaborative agency to a personality cult status through the deliberate creation, projection and propagation of a godlike image.

Through lionisation, hero-worshipping and deification, as well as associated political religion, he became larger-than-life and towered over the MDC.

The party became synonymous with him. Holding a different opinion from him became tantamount to treason, attracting swift and harsh punishment from his loyalists.

The internal splits

This inevitably created factions, infighting and clashes within the party that culminated in the 2005 first split, with Sibanda and secretary-general Welshman Ncube leading a breakaway party which called itself the MDC.

That forced Tsvangirai to call his faction the MDC-T, which is the shell which Mwonzora is currently holding onto. Khupe used that brand to contest the 2018 elections and lost while Mwonzora was still at the MDC-Alliance.

They then fought over it following a court judgment which found that Chamisa was not the legitimate party leader and called for congress within 90 days. That congress was held in December 2020 and Mwonzora defeated Khupe amid chaos and allegations of rigging.

The MDC split, precipitated by disagreement over participation in Senate elections that year, had undertones of identity politics and ethnicity, the bane of Zimbabwean political discourse and practice. The split was acrimonious. There was serious polarisation, name-calling, and character assassination, as well as violence and brutality.

That badly dented the MDC’s image and reputation.  Tsvangirai also began to be seen as a dictator-in-the-making. The split crippled the MDC and Tsvangirai hit rock bottom after a comprehensive defeat in the 2005 elections.

Prior to that, the MDC had performed dramatically well in the June 2000 parliamentary elections and the 2002 presidential poll. However, in March 2007, before the 2008 synchronised general elections, Tsvangirai, and other pro-democracy activists, including National Constitutional Assembly leader Lovemore Madhuku and former MDC (Ncube’s formation) leader Arthur Mutambara, were viciously attacked and seriously injured by police as one of his supporters was shot dead in an anti-government demonstration in Harare.

That sparked widespread outrage at home and abroad. It revived Tsvangirai’s political fortunes. This culminated in Tsvangirai defeating Mugabe in March 2008 before the veteran dictator fought back through intimidation and violence led by the military in a runoff in June that year. Tsvangirai pulled out of the election, citing brutality.

The move further divided the MDC-T. Chamisa, leader of the current main opposition Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC), another MDC offshoot which emerged on 22 January 2022, supported Tsvangirai, while some party stalwarts such as the late Roy Bennett and Innocent Gonese did not.

“There is a huge avalanche of calls and pressure from supporters across the country, especially in the rural areas, not to accept to be participants in this charade,” Chamisa said at the time. Bennett said while the 27 June runoff would not be free and fair, it was critical to stand against Mugabe.

“On the backdrop of that we have to compete in these elections to show the total illegitimacy of them,” he said. Gonese, the MDC’s secretary for legal affairs, agreed with Bennett.

“People are saying despite all that we should not withdraw, and we also believe withdrawing will not solve anything,” he noted.

The GNU and MDC’s demolition

In the aftermath of the disputed 2008 presidential election, a Government of National Unity (GNU) was formed between Mugabe’s Zanu-PF Tsvangirai’s MDC-T and the MDC led by Mutambara, which had supported former ruling party stalwart Simba Makoni and his Mavambo party in the elections.

Using the Gramscian concept of “passive revolution”, Zimbabwe’s democratic forces become part of a passive revolution through two processes, the political scientist Brian Raftopoulos wrote. In one part of this configuration, notwithstanding the electoral popularity of Tsvangirai’s MDC, the repressive anchor of the Mugabe regime, itself pushed into a negotiated settlement by a variety of factors, largely shaped the contours of this settlement, forcing the opposition to adjust to Zanu-PF’s reconfiguration of the state and its relations to capital from above.

Moreover, Zanu-PF had carried out this manoeuvre under the cover of the regional body, itself constrained by its own limitations. In another part of this conjuncture, the control of an important tool of leverage for change in the country’s political relations by external forces has placed the opposition and civic forces in a subordinate role to broader global agendas on political and economic change.

In that context, the politics of the opposition and civil society groupings could be understood as being in defensive mode, fighting to institutionalise forms of politics that could establish a broader basis for imagining and carrying out alternative political visions.

Moreover, the MDC-T has had to adapt its political positioning to the imperatives of the Global Political Agreement, the politics of Sadc, and the demands of its supporters in the West. In that field of force, the persistent calls for new legitimate elections were understandable, but clearly faced enormous odds.

Finding a way through the problem remained a complex challenge that involved not just an electoral strategy but a broader development vision. As the parties pushed reforms, a process Mbeki had started way back in 2007, amid growing suspicions among them, Tsvangirai found himself closer to Mugabe and isolated from his top lieutenants like former finance minister Tendai Biti who feared the old dictator wanted to draw the MDC closer and destroy it.

Tsvangirai started enjoying power or proximity to it through close association with Mugabe, including drinking tea with him, and the trappings of office and patronage such as getting a big house from the state.

By the end of the GNU, Tsvangirai’s relations with Biti were strained significantly, especially over the new constitution-making process and concessions in various contested issues. Tsvangirai had been significantly compromised despite his popularity. When Mugabe, indicating right, swiftly turned left on his return from the Maputo Sadc summit on 15 June 2012 and railroaded the country to the 31 July 2013 elections, Tsvangirai and the MDC could not figure out what hit them. Amid a rigging plot by Israeli security outfit Nikuv, Mugabe won 62% of the vote to claim a sixth term as president and was sworn in on 22 August.

Tsvangirai emerged second with 34% of the vote. Zanu-PF also dominated the parliamentary election, winning 196 seats. The MDC-T was buried under a landslide.

The 2014 split

After the 2013 elections defeat, which cost the MDC domestic and international support as its former allies, including friendly voices like British world politics professor Stephen Chan, attacked its organisational incapacitation and incompetence, infighting intensified. In their book, Why Mugabe Won: the 2013 Elections in Zimbabwe and their Aftermath, Chan and Julia Gallagher were ruthless against the MDC.

They said Zanu-PF and Mugabe’s victory left the MDC battered and in disarray as election post-mortems predictably led to recriminations and another split in the party.

“How did it happen? Was this another instance of Mugabe and Zanu-PF stealing an election through what some in the opposition claimed was a potent combination involving a sketchy voters’ roll with 100 000 centenarians, ‘assisting’ voters, turning away over 300 000 voters, bussing people into key races, and intimidation, though with less overt violence?” the authors asked.

“Or, did the wily politician win the election fairly, as Zanu-PF claimed and as was accepted, with misgivings, by observer teams from the Southern African Development Community (Sadc) and the African Union?” Chan and Gallagher challenged the rigging claims, suggesting instead that Mugabe and Zanu-PF won credibly, aided by some “judicious rigging” and a healthy helping of ineptness on the part of Tsvangirai and the MDC.

Chan and Gallagher pointed to several conditions – the legacies of colonialism; memories of the economic collapse of 2007-08 and the horrific election violence of 2008; Mugabe’s continued towering presence in Zimbabwean politics; Tsvangirai’s heroic, if flawed, challenge to Mugabe; and an evolving state-society relationship marked by simultaneously hopeful and ambivalent political attitudes – as critical in shaping the outcome of the 2013 elections.

In addition to all of these conditions and factors, a key claim in this book is that going into the 2013 elections the MDC ran a haphazard campaign. For Chan and Gallagher, the MDC was weakened during the coalition government. To begin with, participation in the coalition undermined the MDC’s most potent argument, one “rooted in the idea of its differences from Zanu-PF, one of which was the idea of probity in government”. Second, key members and resources of the MDC were directed towards participation in the coalition government, resulting in fractured and weak party structures. Consequently, the party lost discipline and capacity, both of which affected its campaign and ability to connect with voters in the 2013 elections.

While the MDC seemed to have been destabilised and decentred by participation in the coalition government, Chan and Gallagher contend that Zanu-PF took advantage of the GNU to reconnect with its supporters.

Bound and united by the ideological construct of “patriotic history”, they suggest that Zanu-PF fashioned a campaign that strengthened its grassroots party structures among the rural populace and offered middle-class voters, for long the core supporters of the MDC, the possibility of material gains through its indigenisation programme.

“The outcome of this effort was that Zanu-PF ran a ‘professional and committed campaign that involved a substantial voter registration drive, effective party mobilisation and a carefully crafted re-seduction of the Zimbabwean electorate’. Little wonder then that Freedom House survey results of voter intentions in 2012 pointed to real gains in support of Zanu, survey results that, curiously, the unfocused MDC discounted.”

Consequently, on 20 November 2013 Biti announced he would be opening a new law firm specialising in international finance law and domestic constitutional issues. In 2014, he fell out with Tsvangirai and left with Elton Mangoma and others to form a breakaway party, MDC Renewal. The party quickly split and Biti formed the People’s Democratic Party, while former Energy minister Mangoma established the Renewal Democrats of Zimbabwe.

Prior to that, MDC founding senior leader Job Sikhala had formed his own splinter party called MDC-99 in 2010. This means there were many MDC formations and manifestations in 15 years: The original MDC, MDC-T, MDC (Ncube’s formation), MDC-99, MDC Renewal Team, People’s Democratic Party and Renewal Democrats.

Using his personality cult, Tsvangirai during the 2014 party congress blocked Chamisa as the popular choice for the post of secretary-general and imposed Mwonzora. Khupe was elected vice-president. Two years later, Tsvangirai tried to correct his mistake by appointing Chamisa as one of the two more vice-presidents together with Elias Mudzuri. The decision fuelled divisions and internal strife. It ultimately became a ticking time bomb within the party.

When Tsvangirai died on 14 February 2018, the powder keg exploded as Khupe, Chamisa and Mudzuri battled to succeed him. Chamisa seized control of the party and a further split erupted. Khupe remained with the name MDC-T, while Chamisa moved on to form the MDC-Alliance. After the 2018 election in which Khupe’s MDC-T performed badly and lost dismally to the MDC-Alliance, Mwonzora waged war on Chamisa.

He took him to court and won, seized the party headquarters and other properties and then claimed its legacy. After defeating Khupe at the MDC-T December 2020 congress, Mwonzora sought to destroy the MDC-Alliance through recalls of elected officials, taking over state finances due to the party and later claiming the name MDC-Alliance. In the end, Chamisa formed the CCC and left Mwonzora with a shell. That almost certainly marks the end of the MDC, although this Saturday’s by-elections and, most importantly, the 2023 general elections, will determine that.

The winners

Zanu-PF emerges as the biggest winner in many ways after fighting the MDC tooth and nail for two decades to destroy it. Mwonzora did in two years what Zanu-PF under Mugabe and later Mnangagwa failed to do in 20 years, that is demolish the MDC for his own personal interest and on behalf of the ruling party. His collaboration with Zanu-PF is now common cause.

However, this might be a pyrrhic victory or worse. The strategy might boomerang and lead to Chamisa’s vigorous rejuvenation under the rising “yellow wave” as indications on the ground strongly suggest that a stronger party might rise out of the MDC’s ashes like a Phoenix in the form of CCC – the law of unintended consequences.

The neutrals

Some of the people who sacrificed body and soul – and toiled with their blood and sweat – are exasperated that the party, which became one of the biggest pro-democracy movements in Africa and with a rich legacy of fighting an entrenched authoritarian regime while trying to gain power to rebuild Zimbabwe, has been sacrificed on the altar of unbridled personal ambition and political expediency. Many people were beaten, raped, maimed and killed on behalf of the MDC and yet it now seems their sacrifices were in vain as their leaders commit politicide in pursuit of personal ambition and power.

The blood of many innocent Zimbabweans was spilt during the MDC’s mortal political combat with Zanu-PF. Neutrals hope that the blood of those who died in the struggle for change, which is flowing like a river below the surface, will water the tree of democracy and lead to a new Zimbabwe where they will properly be honoured and remembered .

The losers

By far the biggest individual loser in this political soapie is Khupe. She fought Chamisa and then Mwonzora viciously and lost dismally. All her efforts, driven by rage rather than political strategic thinking and calculation, have gone to waste.

Yet Mwonzora, who has won his battle against Chamisa over the MDC brand, is almost inevitably going to eventually become a big loser as he will go down as the MDC undertaker, risking being judged harshly by the current generation and history itself. Khupe, however, threw her weight behind Chamisa this week, marking an end to her alliance with Mwonzora, a move that has sent tounges wagging on the political scene.

The MDC-Alliance could well be a poisoned chalice for him, which is almost certain.

Chamisa lost the battle for the MDC-Alliance to Mwonzora but has gained under the CCC. He remains probably the most popular politician in Zimbabwe today.

Mnangagwa won the prize of destroying the MDC as a brand, although his plot with Mwonzora might backfire. Yet without a doubt the biggest loser is democracy. When a big opposition party like the MDC – which at its height was a major democratic counterweight to Zanu-PF and its failed authoritarian project – collapses, democracy is the ultimate loser

ZEC Official Collapses, Dies

By A Correspondent- A Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) female presiding officer collapsed and died Saturday afternoon while carrying out designated election duties at Chipadze Primary School in Bindura, Mashonaland Central.

The presiding officer whose name was not released, collapsed and it could not be ascertained if she had been complaining of any illness when she reported for duty.

National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident in a telephone interview with The Sunday Mail last night. He said:

We had an unfortunate incident at Chipadze Primary School in Bindura where a presiding officer just collapsed and died. We are still assessing if there are any other reports, we will give to the media tomorrow (today).

The presiding officers’ body was ferried to Bindura Hospital Mortuary. We are yet to find out if she was not feeling well. We will be guided by the medical experts. It’s an unfortunate incident.

Polling stations were opened at 7 am and were closed at 7 pm.

Mwonzora Recalls 16 More Councillors

By A Correspondent- Senator Douglas Mwonzora who leads the opposition MDC Alliance has recalled 16 more councillors at a time when the nation has just conducted by-elections to replace 28 legislators and 121 councillors he recalled last year.

Most of the Parliamentary and local government seats became vacant when Mwonzora’s MDC-T recalled members who were accused of supporting another party led by Nelson Chamisa.

From the results of the 26 March 2020 by-elections released by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) so far, the Mwonzora-led party has not won any seat in some cases scoring a paltry zero votes at several polling stations.

This is a developing story.

Zanu PF Thugs Intimidate CCC Polling Officers

By- Zanu PF activist in most parts of the country, yesterday intimidated opposition Citizens Coalition for Chanf polling agents.

There were also allegations of vote-buying, bussing of voters by the same.

Zimbabweans went to the polls for the first time under Covid-19 and two years after the government suspended holding of elections to fill 28 parliamentary and 122 local government seats that fell vacant following the recalls of MDC Alliance legislators and councillors.
Some seats fell vacant after the death of councillors and legislators that were voted into office in 2018.
Yesterday’s polls were held amid concerns from the opposition and independent election watchdogs over the credibility of the voters’ roll after a number of discrepancies and anomalies were uncovered.
There were reports of pockets of violence targeting opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) candidates and polling agents in some constituencies.
In Gokwe Nembudziya, CCC candidate for ward 23 Munyaradzi Nyati was allegedly assaulted by a Zanu PF supporter after he informed the presiding officer at Tsungai Polling Station that ruling party activists were intimidating potential voters outside the polling stations.
Nyati filed a report at the command centre at Kwayedza Primary School where his case was booked by a Sergeant Mugabe from Nembudziya Law and Order Section.
He was told to return to Nembudziya Police Station today.
In Kwekwe, a CCC polling agent Sympathy Chakwanda lost a tooth after he was allegedly assaulted by Zanu PF supporters for confronting them over the bussing of voters to a polling station.
CCC Kwekwe Central National Assembly candidate Judith Tobaiwa confirmed the incident.
“One of our polling agents was hauled from the polling station by Zanu PF activists, who beat him until he lost a tooth and sustained a deep cut on the forehead,” Tobaiwa said.
“He has been taken to hospital and a police report has been made.
Zanu PF director of information Tafadzwa Mugwadi made counter accusations against the CCC.
“What was disturbing were the threats of violence by CCC candidates, who instigated violence against polling officers putting the electoral process in disarray,” Mugwadi said.
“A well-known member of Zanu PF was also assaulted by a CCC member on his way to vote in Harare.
Mugwadi, CCC spokesperson Fadzai Mahere and election watchdogs Zimbabwe Election Support Network (Zesn) and the Elections Resource Centre (ERC) all confirmed scores of people could not find their names in the voters’ roll.
Observers had prior to the polls raised concerns over the voters’ roll after the unearthing of anomalies, saying this cast doubt on the credibility of the polls.
The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) had dismissed the claims, saying a voters’ roll with glaring discrepancies had been tampered with to discredit the elections management body.
“In Mutasa Central, ward 4, the voters’ roll was not proper to the extent that some of the voters failed to vote,” Mugwadi said.
“There was a mix up of the polling stations and the majority of our supporters failed to vote.
But we believe it was a technical mix up that will be rectified.”
Addressing a press briefing in Harare Mahere said: “Many people were turned away because their names were not appearing on the voters roll even though their names appeared in 2018 at the same polling stations and that is worrying because every citizen has the right to vote.”
Data analysts such as Team Pachedu took Zec to task for making changes to 156 polling stations and moving 170 000 voters from their respective polling stations ahead of the by-elections,
Zec must explain what process it used to remove citizens from the polling stations,” Mahere said.
“Zec simply has not compled with the laws. We have the problem where people are removed and placed in different polling stations.”
According to the ERC and Zesn that observed the elections, a number of polling stations in places like Epworth, Murehwa South and Chivi South were not easily accessible.
The election watchdogs also raised an issue with variations with the indelible link, saying it was of poor quality and could be easily erased to allow multiple voting.
“ERC and ZESN observers as well as voters have reported wide variation in the types of indelible ink colours used by ZEC to mark voters’ fingers.
“A concern has been that the blueish variance of the ink is of poor quality and may not be able to prevent multiple voting.
“Indelible ink is important in safeguarding against multiple voting; however, poor quality raises fears of potential malpractice,” the organisations said yesterday evening in a situational report.
The two organisations blamed the confusion and apathy on lack of voter education and engagement.
“This shortcoming in public engagement, when viewed alongside the administration of the two different voters’ rolls in constituencies where there are concurrent elections for the National Assembly and ward by-elections, has resulted in confusion amongst voters in the affected areas,” they added.
“Stakeholders have also expressed concern over the quality and integrity of the voters’ roll, which was further compounded by the delay by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission in sharing the official voters’ roll for analysis.”
CCC said some of its polling agents were chased away from polling centres citing an incident at Musi farm tent, ward 4 in Marondera East and in Epworth.
Zanu PF and the CCC also made counter accusations against each other over the bussing of supporters to vote.
In Bulawayo, intermittent heavy rains disrupted the submission of progress reports, provincial elections Officer Innocent Ncube told The Standard yesterday evening.
“As for the statistics, we are unable to give because we have a challenge as a result of the rains, the communication system was disturbed and we have not been getting the figures,” Ncube said.
“We have notified those in ward and constituency command centres and polling stations to use vehicles to bring the reports.”. Standard

Chamisa Salutes Zimbabweans For CCC By-elections Victory

Zanu PF Thugs Beat-Up Chamisa Polling Agent

By- Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) polling agent was in Kwekwe assaulted by Zanu PF activists on Saturday, the Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum has reported.

The agent, identified as Sympathy, reportedly lost his tooth during the scuffle.
The Forum reports that Sympathy had confronted the activists who were transporting voters to polling stations in Kwekwe. Said the forum in a case alert:
Case Alert A CITIZENS Coalition for Change (CCC) polling agent had his tooth knocked out in Kwekwe after he tried to confront ZANU-PF activists who were transporting voters to polling stations in Kwekwe.
CCC Kwekwe Central National Assembly candidate Judith Tobaiwa said the agent, whose name was given only as Sympathy, was assaulted by ZANU-PF youths in Mbizo township.
Last month, a CCC activist, Mbongeni Ncube, was assaulted to death by suspected ZANU PF activists at a CCC rally held in Kwekwe ahead of this Saturday’s by-elections.
