Chamisa Bags Most Of The Constituencies

By- The opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) has bagged most of the constituencies in yesterday’s by-elections.

The party leader Nelson Chamisa said the by-election results indicated that all authority comes from the citizenry.

He speaks as results released by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) have revealed that his party prevailed in most constituencies and wards where elections were held.
He said:
This by-election has shown that ultimately all authority comes from the CITIZENS. Citizens are above politicians & their foolish politics. Why did you waste national resources taxpayers’ money? Would these resources not have been deployed to better our health, education sectors?
The by-elections were held to replace 28 members of Parliament (MPs) and 121 councillors who died and those who were recalled from office.
Most of the recalled were members of the MDC Alliance led by Nelson Chamisa. They were recalled by rival MDC-T following a 2020 Supreme Court ruling which ruled that Chamisa was not the legitimate leader of the MDC that contested in the 2018 elections.

Chamisa saw the recalls as a strategy by the ruling ZANU PF to dismantle the opposition in the land. They accused MDC-T of acting at the instigation of the ruling party.
Following the Supreme Court ruling, the government gave funds under the Political Parties (Finance) Act to the MDC-T in proportion to the MDC Alliance vote of 2018.
The development has infuriated the Chamisa-led party, believing it should receive the money since Chamisa contested the 2018 elections, not Douglas Mwonzora.

Intimidation Of Traditional Leaders By Emmerson Mnangagwa Unacceptable

ZEAT COMMUNICATIONS.

It is with great shock that we learnt that the President recently went ballistic and fired volleys at Chiefs whom he accused of being opposition Chiefs and threatened to axe them.

Well acording to the Supreme Law of the land it is a public secret that Chiefs must be non-partisan as Section 281 (2) (b) states. Taking a surgical and microscopic analysis at the President’s words it is crystal clear like the azure blue sky that for him it is okay for Chiefs to be political and support the ruling ZANU PF.

It puzzles the sane mind to hear the chief custodian of the law saying this. An utterance of that magnitude has the effect of tearing down our Constitution.

Deeply thrown in a high level compendious laconic lacuna by these barrages we humbly call upon the President in his capacity as the Number 1 citizen of the land to uphold, defend, obey and respect the Constitution as the Supreme law of the land and ensure that the Constitution and all the other laws are faithfully observed as articulated by Section 90 (1) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe. We Are On Track- Bamusi

CAPS United winger Phineas Bamusi believes the Green Machine is now on track after a slow start to the season and what’s just needed is to keep on collecting points.

Lloyd Chitembwe’s charges registered their first win of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League at the sixth time of asking when they demolished WhaWha 6-0 at the National Sports Stadium and have beaten Bulawayo City and drawn with Highlanders since.

Bamusi believes the Harare giants are now in the right direction after poor start to the campaign.

“At this stage of the season, every game is equally important,” Bamusi told Soccer24 ahead of CAPS’ meeting with Herentals tomorrow.

“We have gone for three games without tasting defeat. Its a confidence booster for everyone and we will just continue working hard.

“We know we have to cover up after starting the season on poor note by our standards, I think we are now on track. We just need to collect points going forward and catch up with the rest of the teams which are leading so far,” he added.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Amazulu Boss Speaks On McCarthy Dismissal

Amazulu president Sandile Zungu has lifted the lid on the reasons for the decision made by the DStv Premiership side, to part ways with head coach Benni McCarthy.

The Durban-based side announced today that McCarthy has left the club, after joining them in December 2020 and managing a second-place finish on the league table last season.

Zungu, in confirming the development, said the team need a change.

“It is true that with effect from today that Benni McCarthy and AmaZulu Football Club, have parted ways,” he told the club’s media department.

“We parted ways on an amicable basis, it is known that the role Benni McCarthy played in taking AmaZulu from just above relegation zone, to finishing top two last season and effectively competing in the CAF Champions League group stage.

“Its highly commendable effort, and at AmaZulu Football Club, we are very grateful and on that basis we wish Benni McCarthy the best in his future endeavours.

“But it is quite clear that the team needed change and that change needed to happen now, hence we needed to part ways with him, with immediate effect.

“The team has the players who we are absolutely sure it can compete and take the team to a respectable position come the end of the season,” he added.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Mavaza: President ED Spent the Last 4 Years Listening to Zimbabweans

TODAY WE VOTE TIME TO MAKE A WISE CHOICE.

BY DR MASIMBA MAVAZA

Zimbabwe saw gruesome blood letting campaign for the past three months. Political parties entered in a show case showing off their support. Like a snake shedding its skin we saw the MDC shedding off their skin coming up as CCC.
At the start of this campaign president Emerson Mnangagwa spent a lot of time listening. That’s what he has done over the last four years, and that’s what he did over the last five weeks as well. Now he is prepared to welcome the team we will chose to finish the remaining part of the term and taking Zimbabwe to eternity.

The president did not listen to vested interests. He did not listen to celebrities or millionaires trying to buy influence. He did not listen to highly selective focus groups or any group which put his name at the end or in the middle. The president listened to ordinary people from all walks of life. He listened to Zimbabweans and indeed he is a listening president. Listening to their concerns about education. Listening to their fears about the health system. The president listened to their disillusionment with politicians who break their promises and betray their trust. The president saw first hand how the cities were and are being run down by the opposition city fathers.
The narrow fight between the Opposition and Other parties has excluded millions in Zimbabweans from their own election. People now want politicians to stand up and address the issues that matter to them. The issues of bread and butter. People now want
commitments that are clear and costed. They have realised that leadership can never exist without trust. To that end they want leadership they can trust.
And there is just one day left to determine the direction we take in the remaining part of the term.
One day to turn this into a campaign that sets Zimbabwe on the right course for the years ahead.
One day to turn this into a campaign that focuses on the long term.
One day to turn this into a campaign about the issues that matter to people.`
During the campaign we have been fed a barrage of lies and distortions from the CCC High Command, the like of which we have never seen before. And when the CCC Party get frightened, they get negative, and they get nasty they call for sanctions
Instead of engaging in honest debate, they will put up thousands of negative distorting the truth about their country.
Instead of confronting voters face to face, they will ring people up, whispering lies about our policies down the phone.
Instead of talking about their record, they will fight the most negative, most nasty campaign imaginable.
Well, we will not be cowed. The best antidote to negative Tory campaigning is to fight positively on our programme for Britain.
To make the campaign in this last week a campaign the British people can be proud of.
And our Party has a duty to make that happen. To offer people a different choice than they have been getting from the oppositin
The investment to give our children the best possible education.
Clear, costed commitments to protect and improve our health system.
The guarantee of a referendum on any future change in Europe.
Open government, fair votes, power passed down from Westminster and Whitehall.
We have heard much about trust in this campaign. But politicians can’t expect to be taken on trust. They’ve got to earn people’s trust.
Trust comes from being straight with people. It comes from being consistent in your principles and policies. It comes from sums that add up.
Over the last four years, the ZANU PF in the new dispensation has proved that it can be trusted.
While Over the last four years opposition in its many breaking names failed to prove that they are worthy of our trust. They have reduced our cities to villages.
What ZANU PF set out to do in this campaign is to earn people’s trust by doing thing you all can see. This starts now.
That’s why we have stuck to our core values and consistent beliefs which were cemented in blood of our own. We can never promise you that whites will come running to take your country as Chamisa told you. This coming week Chamisa is flying to England to report on his campaign ZANU PF will be coming back to you to give you the feed back of our By election campaign.
That’s why we produced a costed manifesto and our ideology is known. A menu with prices. Chamisa said he sa no ideology his game plan is the white people running in to invest calling Biti Mr Bhiti.
Zanu PF is saying No false promises of riches we will work together in realistic ways.
We know the will of the Our people. We respect the will of the Our people. And we tell the Our people: we will stand up for Zimbabwe.
And all across the country, we have been straight with people. To attach the price-tag to the promise. To say, not just what you will get, but how it will be paid for. Chamisa promises free education.
All the pundits and the political commentators say you can’t ask people to pay a little more for our schools and hospitals.
But it’s not what people seem to be saying.
Why? Because people know that education will be the key to our success in the years ahead.
And everyone knows that in the real world, you don’t get something for nothing.
Others may be happy to say: ‘education, education, education’. But these are hollow words unless they are matched with ‘resources, resources, resources’.
It’s no good saying, like a preacher of prosperity that you’ll do something – this year, next year, sometime, never. Because you’ll never do anything that way.
Our education system has been undervalued and underfunded for too long now. We need to start now. Putting right the damage of the past years. With the hard cash to make a difference.
In this campaign, we have won support for our commitment to education and to our people.
In this campaign, we have won people’s respect for our straight talking and honesty.
It is time to go for victory.
Now what do I mean by victory?
I mean that by sending a massive force of ZANU PF MPs to PARLIAMENT to fight for our schools and hospitals, it becomes your victory.
A victory for your children and grandchildren.
A victory for your schools and hospitals.
A victory for you.
If you want more doctors and nurses in our hospitals, then the only way you will get them is by voting ZANU PF.
Tomorrow we vote let your voice be heard. Vote for the party which delivers no the party which lies.

Harare Man Nabbed Over Ballot Picture

By A Correspondent- A man from Sunningadale 2 was this afternoon apprehended by polling officers and handed over to the police for taking a picture of his allocated ballot paper.

The man was handed over to the police after he emerged from a voting booth, took a picture of his marked ballot and sent it via WhatsApp.

The man is set to be charged with contravening Section 30 of the Electoral Act.

His arrest come after the ZEC issued a statement warning the electorate against taking pictures of their voting pattern and posting it on social media.

ZEC Official Assaulted By MDC Alliance Stalwarts

By A Correspondent- The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has expressed its disappointment after an officer was allegedly assaulted by MDC Alliance members at Mhizha Primary School in Harare’s Highfields East constituency.

Commission spokesman Jasper Mangwana said the incident has since been reported and investigations are ongoing.

Reports say the officer was nabbed by MDC Alliance candidates and agents with marked ballot papers.

Mangwana defended the officer saying she was checking whether materials received were in order before the elections.

“Administratively, the presiding officer was checking received election material to ascertain that all was in order before the conduct of the election,” he said.

“The action of the MDC Alliance candidate and agents constitute an electoral offence as outlined in the section 88 of the Electoral Act as read with paragraph 7(1)(c) of the code of conduct for political parties and candidates.

“The commission has reported the matter to the police for investigations and wishes to reiterate that there is a polling station opening procedure which is done before opening of  the polling station, where election material is checked and verified by the polling officers.”

ZEC further advised all candidates and observers to follow its code of conduct.

“The Commission urges all election candidates agents and observers to adhere to the code of conduct for observers and election agents,” read the statement.

There have been many complaints against ZEC after pressure group Team Pachedu exposed alleged attempts at rigging in favour of the ruling Zanu-PF by abuse of the voters roll.

The main opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) is calling for the commission’s disbanding on allegations of committing electoral fraud.-newsday

Mpilo Student Nurse Acquitted

By A Correspondent- A student nurse at Mpilo Central Hospital has been acquitted on a charge of stealing drugs worth $5 600 from the public health institution.

Sandra Maramba (21) of Babourfields in Bulawayo, represented by her lawyer Tinashe Dzipe denied the charge when she appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Amanda Ndlovu.

Ndlovu found her not guilty at the close of the State case on Wednesday.

According to the State, police on July 22, 2021 received information from her live-in boyfriend that she was in possession of stolen drugs at her place of residence.

Police raided her lodgings and recovered birth control pills, Ibuprofen, erythromycin, amoxicillin tablets among other drugs.

n her defence, Maramba said she had no knowledge of the other drugs besides the birth control and Ibuprofen tablets.

A witness in the case, Namatirai Derrick Makunike, landlord at the house where Maramba stayed, said the nurse was not the only one staying at the property.

It later emerged that the hospital had no drug theft case.

It was revealed in court that Maramba was arrested following a misunderstanding with her live-in boyfriend, suggesting that he was behind her arrest.

In her ruling, the magistrate and the State had failed to prove a prima facie case against Maramba before acquitting her.-Newsday

“Appreciate NGOs”: ED Told

By A Correspondent- Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition (CiZC) chairperson Peter Mutasa has told President Emmerson Mnangagwa to appreciate the work done by non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in Zimbabwe.

Mutasa was responding to Mnangagwa’s threats to shut down NGOs he claimed had become wayward and were interfering in areas which they should not.

The former Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) president pointed out that the country’s health and education sector among many, were being kept alive by NGOs.

He told NewZimbabwe.com Mnangagwa’s threats betrayed government’s intentions if the Private Voluntary Organisation Bill is to sail through and become law.

“Instead of seeing CSOs as enemies, the government must be thankful for the work that NGOs are playing,” said Mutasa.

“NGOs are providing for medical care, education, food security, disaster management, social security and host of other important functions.

“We are deeply concerned by that statement which clearly shows intentions of the government on the PVO Bill.

“We are supposed to be enhancing democracy by making government accountable and proffering alternatives policies. the government is neglecting.”

“This statement, therefore, is a wake-up call for citizens,” Mutasa added.

“It is a clear declaration of some marshal law of some sort. The president’s statement effectively shows that we are under a serious authoritarian regime where the constitution and constitutional freedoms and rights do not matter anymore.”

Mnangagwa’s regime adopted predecessor Robert Mugabe’s frosty relationship with NGOs with the PVO Bill interpreted by civil society leaders as being another attempt at stifling freedoms.

His government has over the past year forced NGOs to register with provincial development coordinators (PDCs) and at one point announced suspension of hundreds of them.

Mutasa called for solidarity in the wake of Mnangagwa’s comments.

“In a country where the judiciary, legislature, and other important organs of the state are compromised, CSOs remain the only sector that can provide some checks and balances.

“The citizens must therefore defend democracy and livelihoods by protecting their organisations,” he said.

The PVO Bill has provisions that seek to criminalise work of NGOs by proposing harsh penalties, including jail time of up to one year for perceived offences.

The Bill also gives the minister responsible for CSOs and trusts, powers which will enable them to interfere with the operations of these bodies.

NGOs will be required to submit their plans and work to the government, a move critics have said is aimed at curbing the operations of entities that have kept the government in check.

Aspiring Zanu PF Councilor Displays Campaign Banners Close To Polling Station

By A Correspondent- Aspiring Zanu PF Chinhoyi Ward 12 councillor, Enock Fombo, has been reported to police after displaying his campaign banners close to a polling station.

Reports say he was also distributing ZANU PF regalia, including wrappers (maZambia), emblazoned with President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s pictures along roads leading to voting sites in the politically volatile ward.

CCC candidate Dyke Makumbi raised the alarm and lodged a complaint with the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) officials, who deployed a police officer who confiscated one banner that is now being held as evidence. Makumbi said:

Zanu PF has activated its election rigging machinery by sending youths to display campaign banners bearing Fombo’s portrait close to the polling station. This happened right in front of me, prompting me to report the matter to ZEC and to police.

The Electoral Act prohibits displaying material bearing political messaging or wearing party regalia, including T-shirts and caps, within a 100-metre radius from a voting site.

This is not the first time Fombo has courted controversy. Last week, he commandeered a council grader operator to refurbish roads and took a ride on the earthmoving equipment as it drove around the ward.

Residents Dump Garbage At Council Offices

By A Correspondent- Residents of Harare’s Hatfield suburb yesterday dumped garbage outside council’s district offices in protest over poor service delivery.

“We have come with our garbage here as we are tired of trying to manage our waste disposal yet the City of Harare bills us every month,” Hatfield Residents Association chairperson Shakie Mushambi said.

“The council has been neglecting its duties for a long time. Usually garbage collection is supposed to be done four times a month, but there are times when we can go for months without getting service.”

The association’s vice-chairperson Charles Hwandi said the area had been neglected for long, hence the decision to take their grievances to council offices.

We want to see if they will collect the garbage dumped here today (yesterday) or if they will continue to give the same old excuses. And if they don’t keep their collection timetables, we will continue with this exercise, maybe then they can hear us out,” he said.

Council spokesperson Michael Chideme said citizens had a right to lodge a complaint with the local authority.

“It is their democratic right to protest like that and we are addressing the issue,” Chideme said last night.

The protest came shortly after the local authority took delivery of 10 new refuse compactors, five skip trucks and one front-end loader to scale up waste collection.-Newsday

“I Will Give You Two Babies”: Lee Ann Bernard Tells Hopewell Chin’ono

By A Correspondent- Former ZBC News reporter Lee Ann Bernard today decided to shoot her shot at Hopewell Chin’ono.

Seeing the investigative journalist is celebrating his 51st birthday today, Lee Ann who lowkey seems smitten by Daddy Hope decided to wish him a happy birthday and also offered to have two babies with him for free.

Taking to Twitter, Lee Ann wrote;

Happy Birthday Hopewell, heres wishing you had babies to help you blow out those candles, nevertheless my offer still stands.

Apparently, this is not the first time Lee Ann has made such an offer to Hopewell. Yesterday as netizens were discussing about the by-elections. A Twitter user only identified as Obazzy Mussah Mangoma said that if Douglas Mwonzwora wins 1 member of parliament seat and  1 Councillor seat, he will freely volunteer to go and stay in Ukraine forever.

“Mwonzora akahwina 1 MP ne 1 counsellor ndinoenda kuUkrain kunogarako zvachose.”

Responding to Mangoma’s comment, Lee Ann said that if Mwonzora wins she will marry Hopewell and give him 2 kids.

“Akaiwina I’ll Marry Hopewell and give him 2 kids and keep him busy off social media.”

Recently, Lee Ann Bernard made headlines after she accused her former lover, Lincoln “Mhofu” Benyure of using her “genuine love” for him to exploit her for his own selfish ends. She revealed that Mhofu used her to get a passport.

It’s not by choice, it’s who I am, and Mhofu thought he destroyed my heart into pieces, but I had genuine love for him.

“All he wanted was a passport, and I got him one, the next thing he left.

“I fell victim, obviously, to somebody who had his own ulterior motives but I genuinely loved him.

“My choice of moving on was not based on the public saying, we told you so, he is going back to his baby mama.”

Chamisa’s Polling Agents Threatened

By A Correspondent- Saturday’s by-elections could be reduced to a sham after it emerged Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) polling agents are withdrawing their participation after receiving unspecified threats.

CCC deputy secretary for elections Ellen Shiriyendenga claimed their polling agents are pulling out due fear after having been intimidated by suspected Zanu-PF activists and traditional leaders in rural areas.

Shiriyedenga said the rate at which some polling agents are pulling out was worrisome.

“We are getting a worrying trend with regards to our polling agents. Particularly you go to Marondera East, Murewa South and also Mwenezi South, where we are having our polling agents being intimidated to an extent that some actually withdrew out of fear and that culture of fear is going unabated,” Shiriyedenga said.

So we are saying the responsible bodies, do the right thing,” she.

CCC national spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere also said that there have been reports of bribes and fear being instilled in citizens with their political rivals.

“We do not want any illegal conduct at polling stations. We have received reports already of threats being made by certain traditional leaders who are acting unlawfully in a partisan manner. We have heard threats of intimidation. We have heard reports that names are going to be taken down and follow ups will be made on them. That simply has to stop,” Mahere said.

“Traditional leaders have to be the security of the vote and the voter,” Mahere added.

“Our elections directorate, which is headed up by councillor Ian Makoni and his deputy Ellen Shiriyedenga are working round the clock to ensure polling agents are deployed in every single one of the wards and constituencies where there will be a by-election tomorrow,” Mahere postulated.-Newsday

High Court Principal In Soup Over Criminal Abuse Of Office

By A Correspondent- High Court principal prosecutor Henry Muringani now faces six counts of criminal abuse of office after he was slapped with four more counts yesterday.

Muringani (40) was remanded to March 29 for bail application when he appeared before magistrate Stanford Mambanje.

Allegations are that Muringani prepared four bail applications for inmates at Chikuruti Maximum Security Prison on armed robbery charges after altering the charge sheet.

Vincent Kondo, Bill Tirihama, Edwin Muchagwa and Propser Chidaushe had been denied bail on armed robbery charges and advised to apply at the High Court.

It is alleged the suspects gathered that Muringani was assisting inmates get bail. They contacted him through their relatives.

Muringani also personally approached relatives of other incarcerated inmates to facilitate their release.

It is alleged he was paid US$1 000 by Kondo and US$500 each by Tirihama, Muchagwa and Chidaushe.

Muringani then falsified their charge sheets to allow the quartet to appear before the High Court as self-actors on March 1.

However, their luck ran out after investigations established that their charges were falsified.-Newsday

Mnangagwa Pay USD100 Billion Gukurahundi Compensation

As Matabeleland Liberation Organisation (MLO) we would like to put it unambiguously clear that we will not fold our hands and watch while Mr Mnangagwa spills innocent Matabele blood again. We rightly address him here as Mr Mnangagwa because he has stooped too low to be referred as President. His statement that he will shorten our lives for advocating for the restoration of Matabeleland from Zimbabwe is the last straw. It has exposed him as a blood thirst and unrepentant genocidist, terrorist, coup maker and tribal oppressor that he is.

MLO is left with no any other option but to defend Matabele nation in the face of a clear threat from a genocidist who has condemned more than 40 000 innocent Matabele civilians to the grave, their crime being that of being Matabele, if that is a crime at all.

Obviously he is banking on and counting genocide as a victory when he threatens to shorten our lives for peacefully advocating for the restoration of Matabeleland. We will react in the most diabolical way that has never been experienced in the history of Matabeleland and Zimbabwe AKA Mashonaland. We will shake and shame the Shona supremacist system and leave Zimbabwe in shambles.

When we entered the political stage in 2008, we were aware of the fact that we were not entering the beauty contest. We knew very well that we were jumping into the Zimbabwe political platform which is heavily stained with innocent blood of fellow Matabeles. For that reason our organisation is one size fit all like a condom. We say give us death or independence! We have got nothing to lose but our chains. We fear no death. We fear no one but God The Almighty.

MLO will not disappear from the ring and go to ground in the face of Mnangagwa’s threat. But this statement lives as proof of how spot on we were to advocate Matabeleland breakaway from Zimbabwe. His statement has radicalized and opened the eyes of Matabeleland youth who are now itching to fight for their freedom and are willing to accept AK47ns even from the devil himself.

As the reckless dismissal of Mr Mnangagwa from ZANUPF by late President Mugabe in 2017 caused his political down fall and fast- tracked the ascendance of Mnangagwa to the position of President, the unprovoked attack of innocent Matabeles would speed up the implosion of Zimbabwe and accelarate the restoration of Matabeleland state to emerge as The Republic of Matabeleland.

We note that when Mugabe addressed Shona crowds in Mashonaland in the 1980s, telling them that he would wipe out Matabele from the face of earth, they all danced and cheered and celebrated the cruel death of Matabele.

When Zimbabwe Vice President, Constantino Chiwenga threatened to crush CCC like lice, many church organisations, human rights organisations and civil organisations from Mashonaland were up in arms, they came out in their numbers to call him to order. Where are they to rebuke the President of Zimbabwe, Emmerson Mnangagwa who has threatened to murder innocent Matabele civilians?

The only noise we hear from Mashonaland is that of Shona crowds applauding and cheering Mnangagwa threaten to kill Matabele. The defeaning silence from the so called human rights organisations and Churches means that they have thrown away their church robs and joined ZANUPF to cheer Mnangagwa to go ahead and kill innocent Matabeles. What kind of humans are these that enjoy and celebrate the suffering and death of their “fellow countrymen”? Why are the Shona people misusing and abusing their majority power?

Well, we now know the truth Matabeles were never accepted as Zimbabweans and they will never be accepted as such.

That is why some of us have accepted that we are not Zimbabweans and we want out of the hell-hole called Zimbabwe.

For the benefit of those who did not read Mnangagwa’s unfortunate statement, it goes like this.

“There are others like the Mthwakazi (Matabele), who think Zimbabwe should be divided into two states to form the Mthwakazi Republic. Let them speak for now because I am not going to arrest them. They will talk, and talk, get old, and die but Zimbabwe will remain a unitary state. No one will divide this country into small states.

“They must keep quiet, work with the government of the day and forget about this country being divided into two states. If they continue to talk about this, let it be known to them that they will have shorter days to live on this earth.

“There is no country in this world that allows for divisions of their nations. United Nations (UN) Charter recognizes every member country including Zimbabwe. Move-in the path that will allow you to live long or else your days are numbered. We want peace and harmony in this country.”

We wonder which UN Charter Mr Mnangagwa is talking about. But if it is the UN Charter that we all know and all read, it allows states like The Republic of Matabeleland which is formerly The Kingdom of Matabeleland, that remained under colonisation through an imperfect decolonisation to restore its states and achieve self determination. It is the same UN that granted independence and sovereignty to South Sudan on 7 July, 2011 after a war between Sudan and South Sudan. It is the same UN that granted Eritrea independence and sovereignty and recognised it as an independent state from Ethiopia on 27 April, 1993.

We have no doubt that the same good UN will soon grant The Republic of Matabeleland its former status as an independent and sovereign state following already existing boundary known as the Jameson Line once recognised by the UN and Mnangagwa’s ancestors.

To all patriotic Matabele people in Matabeleland and diaspora, we say the murderer of your loved ones is threatening to spill more blood of our relatives. Get ready to assist in any possible way to save your own people from the killer jaws of a proven murderer of your people. Even those who are in the the CCC and ZANUPF are not safe. When we smell like goats to our enemy you also smell the same. You will not be spared join us and fight for your independence. If you do not believe at least learn from the Enos Nkala example.

We will not depart from our demands to the Zimbabwe government which are as follows:

I) Restoration of Matebeleland State as at 3 November 1893 and emerge and join the family of nations as The Republic of Matebeleland

2) Pay US$100billion dollars reparations for Matebele genocide done by the Zimbabwe government through Zimbabwe National Army 5th brigade in 1981-1987

Ayihlome Mthwakazi!!!

CCC Exposes Election Rigging In Marondera

By- Citizens Coalition for Change CCC said the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission in Marondera denied their agents entry into a polling station at Lawrence Primary School.

ZEC Warns Against Taking Pictures Of Marked Ballots

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has banned the taking of photos of marked ballots and sending them on social media saying it is a violation of the law. This comes after pictures of marked ballots circulated on social media platforms. In a statement, seen by Pindula News, ZEC said actually taking photographs in the polling station is prohibited and constitutes a criminal offence. We present the statement below:

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission notes with concern that some voters are taking photographs of the marked ballots and sending them on social media. By-Elections To Humble Mwonzora

By- Information Secretary, Nick Mangwana, has said today’s by-elections will determine the official opposition party in the country as any result will not change the majority party.

The ruling Zanu PF has the majority in Parliament while Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) and MDC Alliance are the two main opposition parties contesting in the by-elections. Mangwana said:

The real fight tomorrow is for the title of, “Zimbabwe’s Official Opposition”. Otherwise, the majority party will remain thus.

Mangwana’s remarks come barely hours before by-elections meant to fill 28 National Assembly seats and over 100 council seats.

Some of the seats became vacant through the deaths of former officeholders while the majority resulted from recalls of MDC Alliance members by rival MDC-T.

MDC Alliance was then led by Nelson Chamisa who now leads opposition Citizens Coalition for Change while the MDC-T was under Thokozani Khupe and Douglas Mwonzora when the recalls happened.

The recalls followed a 2020 Supreme Court ruling   on the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) leadership crisis that started during the last days of a former Prime Minister, the late Morgan Tsvangirai who was the party’s founding leader.

The higher court ruled that Nelson Chamisa was not the legitimate leader of the MDC, therefore, the party had to conduct an elective congress, but in the interim, the 2014 structures had to be reinstated.

Khupe then took over, Chamisa rejected the outcome of the court processes arguing that the ruling Zanu PF was influencing the discourse.

In a bid to whip MDC members to accept the outcome, Khupe recalled several MDC Alliance members who had confessed loyalty to Chamisa.

Although Nelson Chamisa, who contested the 2018 elections and lost narrowly to President Emmerson Mnangagwa, believes he deserved to receive money under the Political Parties (Finance) Act, the government recognised Khupe and allocated her the money.

The Political Parties Finances Act stipulates that only a political party that secures 5 per cent of the total votes cast can benefit from the national budget. In the 2018 elections, Zanu PF won 145 of the 210 seats in the National Assembly against MDC-Alliance’s 63.

Determining the official opposition is also important as the international community was having confusion as both Chamisa-led and the Mwonzora-led political outfits claimed to be the official opposition.

Zanu PF Threatens Chamisa Polling Agents, Force Them Out Of Polling Stations

By-Zanu PF is said to be threatening the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), polling agents and forcing them to withdraw their participation.

CCC deputy secretary for elections Ellen Shiriyendenga claimed their polling agents are pulling out due to fear after having been intimidated by suspected ZANU PF activists and traditional leaders in rural areas.
Shiriyedenga said the rate at which some polling agents are pulling out was worrisome. Shiriyedenga said:

Mahere added that CCC’s elections directorate headed up by councillor Ian Makoni and his deputy Ellen Shiriyedenga are working round the clock to ensure polling agents are deployed in all the wards and constituencies.

Zim Goes To Vote In Make Or Break By-Elections

By A Correspondent| Zimbabweans in the vacant 28 parliamentary and 105 local government seats will today re-elect representatives in an election that has a lot at stake.

The ruling Zanu PF has set its sight on eating into previously opposition seats and is targeting Epworth, St Marys and Marondera Central on top of its own Chivi South and Marondera East among others.

On the other hand, the newly formed CCC is targeting to retain seats previously occupied by its members before they were recalled by Douglas Mwonzora of MDC-T.

MDC-T which is struggling to stamp its authority as the main opposition is out to prove a point though it is going to be a tall order.

The major contestation is between Zanu PF and CCC who sees these by-elections as a precursor to the do or die general elections which are due in 2023.

CCC has hit the ground running and judging by the numbers witnessed at their star rallies, it is ready to give Zanu PF a good run for their money.

Zanu PF on the other hand has also flexed its mobilisation capacity with well attended rallies albeit claims of bussing supporters from all over the country.

“The real fight tomorrow is for the title of, “Zimbabwe’s Official Opposition”. Otherwise the majority party will remain thus,” said Information Secretary Nick Mangwana.

CCC Spokesperson Fadzai Mahere said this election is their chance to test the country’s electoral systems and processes to enable them to push for necessary reforms that ensure the 2023 elections are free and fair.

Whoever wins big today will have an early lead ahead of the main battle on 31 July 2023.

Govt Suspends Registration Of PVOs

Government has suspended the registration of trusts and Private Voluntary Organisations (PVOs) in a move seen as part of a political ploy to restrict local participation of non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and non-profits.

This follows the gazetting of the Private Voluntary Organisations Amendment Bill in November 2021.

The bill seeks to amend the PVO Act.

The bill, which regulates the operations of trusts, associations and all organisations providing charitable services, everyone who benefits and supports their work, seeks to prevent, among other things, Civil Society Organisations (CSO) from undertaking political lobbying.

The CSOs have, however, raised concern that the suggested amendments will restrict their work and violate people’s rights. The CSOs say the government wants to silence organisations that stand up for human rights.

NGOs and non-profits are registered either as PVO or as a trust under the Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare ministry while trusts are registered under the Justice ministry through the Deeds Office.

In its investigation, the Zimbabwe Independent crew, posing as prospective NGO operators, visited the Deeds Office where they were told the registration process had been suspended.

An official manning the Deeds Office said: “We are not registering trusts at the moment, we are only issuing deeds for houses. Even PVOs are not being registered at the moment. We received a directive two months ago to stop registering NGOs until further notice.”

Company registration representatives who spoke to the Independent said the move to block NGO registration was politically motivated as the country prepares for elections in 2023.

“We are not processing trusts at the moment. Government directed the registrar to stop due to political reasons. I’m not sure when we will resume,” the representative said.

“It could be after next year as we understand that government is trying to reduce opposition funding through these organisations.”

Commenting on registering of trusts, Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs minister Ziyambi Ziyambi said there was no such directive as family trusts were still being registered.

“I’m not aware. Why would I stop anyone to register his family trust? If you want to register a company, register it under the relative legal instrument. You can’t register a trust so that you use it to run a company,” he said.

“The problem is that people are abusing family trusts to do business. We have not refused anyone to register for the purpose it should be but those that want to abuse the system then move around saying they have been barred. There is no such directive if you want to register a family trust”.

Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare minister Paul Mavima was not available for comment and he did not respond to questions sent via WhatsApp.

Among other things, the proposed law would have the effect of criminalising the work of CSOs and NGOs in Zimbabwe by proposing harsh penalties, including jail time of up to one year for NGO related offences.

CSOs say the Bill also gives the government and the minister responsible for NGOs and trusts excessive power to interfere with the operations of these bodies.

“It further gives the responsible minister the power to make an application to the High Court to appoint one or more persons of his/her choice as trustees to run the affairs of an organisation for a period not exceeding 60 days — an excessive intrusion in the administration of PVOs,” CSOs said end of January in a letter to Speaker of National Assembly of Zimbabwe Jacob Mudenda.

In Zimbabwe, NGOs have contributed towards employment creation, tax revenues mobilisation, foreign currency generation, provision of social protection and humanitarian assistance, growth in the local tourism sector as well as overall economic growth.

Critics of the proposed law say the PVO Amendment Bill violates the Constitution.

However, the government argues that the changes are meant to plug external interference in Zimbabwe’s domestic political affairs.

Government proposed the PVO Amendment Bill to comply with the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) recommendations to align the country’s laws. The recommendations require the laws and regulations that govern non-profit organisations so that they are not abused for the finance of terrorism.

CSOs view this as government using lawfare to curtail democracy.

Zimbabwe already has the Money Laundering and Proceeds of Crime Act, the Bank Use Promotion Act, the Suppression of Foreign and International Terrorism Act, and the Criminal Law Code to curb illicit financial flows.

ZEC Taken To Court Over Mbizo By-Election Ballot Papers

By A Correspondent| The United Zimbabwe Alliance (UZA) yesterday approached the High Court to have the ballot papers for Mbizo parliamentary by-elections reprinted.

The party says it’s candidate Gladys Mutunami’s face is blotched and difficult for her supporters to see when voting.

“United Zimbabwe Alliance has taken the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission to the High Court seeking a compelling order, to have ZEC directed to reprint the Ballot Papers for Mbizo Constituency where our UZA candidate Gladys Gamuchirai Mutunami is standing for the 26 March 2022 By- Elections.

“The candidate, upon inspecting ballot papers, has raised valid objections to her photo image presentation,” the party said.

“We firmly believe that the electorate will not be able to identify our candidate and this will disadvantage our candidate in the 26 March 2022 by elections,” added UZA.

The matter has not yet been decided despite the fact that voting is starting in almost an hour’s time.

Our Candidates Were Bullied On Social Media

By A Correspondent| Opposition MDC-T has alleged that its candidates in the by-elections slated for today were being bullied on social media.

In a statement on Friday, MDC-T Secretary General Paurina Mupariwa said their party was ready for the by-elections which she said is their opportunity to replace the recalled representatives with bona-fide party cadres who stand for the movement’s values.

“We faced many challenges, key among them being resource constraints and a well coordinated & funded misinformation campaign by our detractors. Our party, candidates and leaders also faced an unprecedented social media bullying,” said Mpariwa.

Chamisa Puts ZEC Under Spot-Light

By- The President of the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) Nelson Chamisa said tomorrow’s by-elections were going to test the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission’s professionalism.

Chamisa made the demands while addressing party supporters Epworth where the party held its last campaign for the by-elections.
He said:
“ZEC, we are watching you, where we are going it is a test. We want to see if you are serious, if there is any rigging. We have a right as citizens to demand that ZEC must be disbanded. Players have a right to say this referee is not fair and can’t referee us, so ZEC if you continue playing like this, I warn you Justice (Priscilla) Chigumba, we will fire you.
ZEC does not mean Zanu PF electoral commission or Zanu PF electoral committee, ZEC means Zimbabwe Electoral Commission. Zanu PF is just a denominator just like CCC, the common denominator is Zimbabwe, be fair and allow people to be defeated. ZEC must not be an extension of Zanu PF because ZanuPF is an outgoing political party.

He speaks when ZEC is already being criticised for anomalies in the voters’ roll, ballot paper and establishment of polling stations.
CCC said it had since written to ZEC over the alleged discrepancies.

ZEC Establishes Polling Station At Zanu PF Base

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has set up a polling station at an alleged ruling ZANU PF torture base in Mbizo constituency, Kwekwe, ahead of the March 26 by-elections.

Over the years, there have been reports of the Black Wadada base being home to a terror group known as Al-Shabaab.

Opposition members and other people considered foes by the ruling party militia and the local political godfathers have been reportedly dragged to Black Wadada – located in Mbizo 9’s Ward 12 – where they have been tortured even in broad daylight, sometimes fatally.

The base is situated behind a shopping centre dominated by drinking outlets.

The electoral commission has set up three tents to be used as polling booths at Black Wadada.

Members of the opposition who spoke to Grazers News feared that there would be a low turnout at the Black Wadada polling station due to fear.

They predicted that polling agents and election monitors from the opposition may either be chased away or fail to turn up, increasing the chances of ballot stuffing.

Settlement Chikwinya, the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) parliamentary candidate for Mbizo, confirmed the setting up of the Black Wadada station adding that he had complained to ZEC. He said:

Black Wadada, a known terror base for Zanu PF where the Al-Shabaab….has been turned into a polling station that houses three booths. We as CCC have raised concern over the security of the voter and the ballot at this station.

We would have favoured the transfer of the polling station to a secure place like the Classbell primary school which is nearby. We have picked information that the youths at the terror base actually want to bar voters from accessing the polling station.

Chikwinya added that ZEC promised to remove the polling station from Black Wadada but it had not acted on its promise by Thursday, two days away from the elections.

ZANU PF youths have been camping at the base and local drinking places for days, Grazers News was told, playing loud music that extols the ruling party while taunting passers-by using vulgarities.

The youths mainly comprise machete-wielding gangs that have in the past hacked people to death in broad daylight but escaped prosecution.

Chigumba Speaks On Highfield Election Rigging Attempt

By- The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission has issued a statement on a video circulating on social media in which one of its presiding officers was “caught red-handed opening polling material” in the absence of polling agents.

It is alleged that she administered them on her desk then put them back in the box in breach of s51 of the Electoral Act.

In a statement, ZEC said the officer was lawfully conducting her duties. Read the statement:

ZEC STATEMENT: HARRASSMENT OF A ZEC ELECTORAL OFFICER

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission would like to express its displeasure at the harassment of its electoral officer by MDC Alliance candidate and agents at Mhizha Primary School in Highfield East Constituency yesterday 24 March 2022 while she was lawfully conducting her duties. This incident is circulating on social media misleading the electorate implying that the electoral officer is contravening the law.

Administratively the presiding officer was checking received election materials to ascertain that all was in order before the conduct of the election. The actions of the MDC Alliance candidate and agents constitute an electoral offence as outlined in section 88 of the Electoral Act as read with paragraph 7(i)(c) of the Code of Conduct for Political Parties and Candidates. The Commission has reported the matter to the police for investigation.

The commission wishes to reiterate that there is a polling station opening procedure which is done before opening of the polling station, where all election material is checked and verified by the polling officers.

The Commission urges all election candidates, agents and observers to adhere to the code of conduct for observers and election agents. Only accredited people are allowed to enter polling stations outside polling period.

Citizens Coalition For Change (CCC) Namibia Partners Mutasa Central Ahead Of By-elections

25 March 2022

Following a worldwide program by the new baby Citizens Coalition For Change to partner constituencies that are going to participate in the impending by-elections tomorrow, Namibia embraced the noble revolutionary idea. Yellow revolutionaries in Namibia convened on Zoom and invited Hon Saruwaka so that he could present the state of ward 15. Our diligent leader furnished us with the areas of needy and we committed to do everything necessary to offer moral , material and financial support to ward 15. The organic district commenced to mobilise resources for the ward to defend the vote against ZanuPF rigging shenanigans.

It is not a secret that the role of external assemblies is to support the national democratic revolution financially especially in this difficult scenerio after Mwonzora stole our political finances pocket. Yellow citizens from Rundu, Windhoek,Northern branches and individuals from four corners of the country ran around and managed to send 300US$ to support the by-elections. It was made clear to the receivant Hon Saruwaka that Namibia district shall continue to mobilise funds and materials until the election is over.

I would like to express my great appreciation to the pragmatic district Chairperson Elisha Chambara and his entire leadership in the respective branches for working tirelessly, mobilising funds from the enthusiastic citizens who are yearning for a New Great Zimbabwe. The revolutionary mood in the diaspora is quite electric, we encourage all Citizens in Namibia to contribute their 10,20,50,100,200 dollars towards complete change. Our polling agents should not be tempted to betray the Yellow Revolution because of money. We should support our struggle financially to win Zimbabwe for change.

Citizens Coalition For Change Namibia district salutes all who managed to contribute to socio-economic transfiguration, supporting their quest for freedom with hard earned cash in the diaspora. Our dream and aspiration is to have Zimbabwe work again under the able leadership of the Change Champion Commander-In-Chief President Advocate Nelson. We wish Mutasa Central Ward 15 good luck in these by-elections not forgetting the rest of our CCC candidates across the breadths and lengths of Zimbabwe.

Zec is under the camera. It must be disbanded , we don’t expect a purported independent commission to be an extension of ZanuPF. Priscilla Chigumba and team are clearly taking instructions from the Shake Shake Building, that must stop! We continue to demand the independence of the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission. Zec must respect the constitution of Zimbabwe, we have heard that some of the polling stations are located in the bushes of Kwekwe. An old Zec official was caught marking ballot papers at Mhizha Primary School which is quite pathetic and unfortunate. We reiterate that Zec must be disbanded.

Emmerson Mnangagwa A Criminal- Mthwakazi

The Mthwakazi Republic Party (MRP) has responded to the threats made by President Emmerson Mnangagwa against secessionist movements that are pushing for the creation of a Mthwakazi Republic in Zimbabwe.

Addressing Zanu PF supporters at a campaign rally in Chitungwiza on Wednesday, Mnangagwa warned those pushing for the creation of a breakaway state in southwestern Zimbabwe that their lives will be shortened.

He singled out the Mthwakazi Republic Party (MRP), one of several other pressure groups in the region which share the secessionist agenda of the movement.

Responding to the threats, MRP described Mnangagwa as a criminal who should be hauled before the International Court of Justice, the principal judicial organ of the United Nations (UN).

The party said on its Twitter page:
The threat to Mthwakazi people’s restoration Movements by Emmerson Mnangagwa in his rally today at Chitungwiza is a travesty of Justice!
He, Mnangagwa is a criminal, not our people. Mthwakazi will be free at last.

The cries of the victims of Gukurahundi for Justice are confusing this president of Zimbabwe. His portion is at The Hague.
People in southwestern Zimbabwe complain of alleged marginalisation which they say include deliberate exclusion from the economic system and lack of equal opportunity in various areas as well unresolved issues around the Gukurahundi killings.- NewsDay/ ZimEye correspondent

“The Mugabes Are Zanu PF To The Bone”

By A Correspondent- Zanu PF spokesperson Christopher Mutsvangwa posted on Facebook suggesting that Bona Mugabe and her husband are members of the ruling party.

Taking to Facebook, Chris Mutsvangwa wrote;

Effusive joy and total gratitude as comrades Bona and Robert Mugabe express that abiding FAMILY loyalty to ZANU-PF, the Party of the Enduring Zimbabwe Revolution.

Bona’s brother, Robert Mugabe Jr, got social media talking after he was spotted at a ZANU PF rally held in St Mary’s in Chitungwiza on Wednesday where he said he belonged to the party.

Robert Mugabe Junior met with President Emmerson Mnangagwa and other ZANU PF high profile members.

Robert Jnr said it was only right for him to be a ZANU PF member since that was the family’s legacy. He said:

They have been very accomodating. I thought I should come and support the party. Like it’s a family tradition. Since I was born the only thing I knew is ZANU PF. I am a ZANU PF child and I have a ZANU PF soul. It is only right that I continue the legacy.

While at the rally, Robert Mugabe Jnr chanted the ZANU PF slogan as he endorsed his support for the ruling party. Reports say he is set to contest for the Zvimba West National Assembly seat in the 2023 general elections.

Some observers thoughts the children of the late founding leader of Zimbabwe would not like to be associated with the party their father led for decades considering that he had sour relations with current party leaders during his last days in power.

Some also claim that the government is behind the push to have the veteran leader’s remains exhumed and reburied at the National Heroes Acre, a move the family is resisting, therefore, they predicted that Mugabe’s family will not endorse the ruling party.

ERC and ZESN Deploying Observers for 26 March By-Elections

As part of their commitment to support democratic development and promote credible, transparent, and accountable electoral processes in Zimbabwe, the Election Resource Centre (ERC) and Zimbabwe Election Support Network (ZESN) will deploy approximately 400 trained and accredited observers across 28 constituencies to observe the 26 March By-Elections.

ERC and ZESN will use complementary observation methodologies to provide citizens and key stakeholders with accurate, independent, timely, and credible information on the election process.

Further, ERC and ZESN seek to ensure that these elections are transparent, inclusive, and accountable and will observe on a nonpartisan basis for all Zimbabweans.

ERC and ZESN observers were carefully recruited from local communities following strict criteria and adhering to gender balance. These observers underwent a thorough training program on the conduct of the elections, direction on what to observe, and when to report on Election Day.

Additionally, observers signed a code of conduct acknowledging that they were non-partisan.

ZESN and ERC will produce statements, based on the verified reports of observers on the opening and set up of polling places as well as voting, closing and counting procedures.

During the pre-election period ERC and ZESN reported issues of intimidation, violence, and
partisan activities of state and traditional leaders.

Ahead of the 26 March By-Elections, ERC and ZESN call on all key stakeholders, including political parties, security actors, and voters to contribute to respect and uphold the political rights of all individuals which are enshrined in Section 67 of the Constitution including the right to make political choices freely and the right to vote in all elections and to do so in secret on election day.

ERC and ZESN recognise the unique contribution that all electoral stakeholders need to make in order for the 26 March by-elections to be successful and therefore urges the security forces to discharge their duties professionally and political parties to refrain from using language that may incite violence.

The ZEC is urged to administer the electoral day process in a manner that further promotes confidence and trust in the electoral process.

Mthwakazi Scoffs At ED’s Threats

THE Mthwakazi Republic Party (MRP) Thursday hit back at Zanu-PF leader, President Emmerson Mnangagwa, for making unsavoury remarks against him and his party.

Mnangagwa took issue with MRP leader, Mqondisi Moyo’s separatist thrust, in which it advocates for the Matabeleland region to secede from Zimbabwe.

Addressing Zanu-PF supporters at Chaminuka Primary School in St. Marys in Chitungwiza Wednesday, Mnangagwa launched a vicious tongue lashing aimed at Moyo.

“There are others like the Mthwakazi, who think Zimbabwe should be divided into two states to form the Mthwakazi Republic. Let them speak for now because I am not going to arrest them. Vachataura, vogotaura, vogochembera, vagofa but Zimbabwe will remain a unitary state. No one will divide this country into small states,” Mnangagwa told his supporters.

However, in an interview with Newzimbabwe.com, the party said its unmoved by Mnangagwa’s statement, and vowed to fight for the separation of Midlands and Matabeleland from the rest of the country.

“We do not take Mnangagwa’s words lightly as you are aware that he was one of the people directly involved in the 1983 Gukurahundi genocide. He is the same person who paid a sum of US$12 983 17 at Jameson Hotel in Harare to the  North Koreans who  trained 500 soldiers in Nyanga  to unleash violence in Matabeleland and Midlands provinces,” Partone Xaba, MRP national organising secretary in an interview.

Xaba argued that in 1891, Sir Leander Starr Jameson and kings Lobengula agreed to establish the Jameson Line boundary between Mashonaland and the state of Mthwakazi through an act of the British government.

“If Zimbabwe is a unitary state as Mnangagwa claims why is that Gukurahundi was only unleashed in Midlands and Matabeleland regions. Zimbabwe is not a unitary state,” said the MRP organizing secretary.

He said by advocating for the separation of the country, the party only wants the mere restoration of the Mthwakazi kingdom.

“When Gukurahundi happened, most of us were still young. We know what Mnangagwa’s  words means but this time around we will match him man for man. We are prepared and we are putting our heads on the block,” declared Xaba.

He also cited the United Nations Charter which he said guarantees the rights to self- determination.

Although Mnangagwa has denied his involvement in the Gukurahundi massacres, on March 5 1983 he reportedly incited violence by likening ZIPRA dissidents to cockroaches and bugs during a rally in Victoria Falls.

Activists and survivors estimate that 20 000 civilians lost their lives during the atrocities.

Drama As Man Kidnaps Cop

THERE was drama when a daring man from Bulawayo allegedly kidnapped a police officer who was escorting him to the police station following his arrest for public violence intentionally swerved his vehicle and landed in a ditch, in a foiled bid to allegedly kill himself and the police officer.

Xolani Dube (32) from Bellevue suburb and Constable John Mudimba (35) based at ZRP Hillside sustained minor injuries after Dube who was speeding deliberately plunged his vehicle into a storm drain.

It is alleged that on 9 March 2022 and at around 10pm, Cst Mudimba was on duty at Hillside Police Station when he received a call to the effect that there was a public fight at Hillside Shopping Centre.

Cst Mudimba in the company of three other officers reacted to the call and quickly rushed to Hillside Shopping Centre.

Upon arrival they found Dube having a misunderstanding with Trust Manyika and Dube had a screwdriver in his hand.

Dube and Manyika were then ordered to drive their cars to ZRP Hillside each escorted by a police officer.

It is reported that Dube was ordered to drive his vehicle to the police station under the escort of Cst Mudimba.

On their way, Dube reportedly changed the route and sped off while threatening to kill Cst Mudimba through an accident.

In the process he was also shouting that they were going to die together.

While threatening to kill both of them he is alleged to have intentionally swerved his motor vehicle into a storm drain.

Cst Mudimba’s colleagues who were phoning him on his phone while making a follow-up quickly arrived at the scene and managed to rescue the two who reportedly sustained minor injuries as a result of the accident.

Dube, who was arrested at the scene, has since appeared in court where he is being charged with kidnapping as defined in Section 93 (1) (a) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act Chapter 9:23.

He was not asked to plead and was remanded in custody to March 25.-BMetro

Village Heads “Feast” On Presidential Inputs

Zanu-PF Mazowe district co-ordinating committee (DCC) chairperson Tafadzwa Musarara has accused local village heads of stealing agricultural inputs sourced under the presidential inputs scheme, depriving targeted beneficiaries.

Speaking at a campaign rally for Zanu-PF aspiring councillor Bester Mhandu, Musarara claimed 10 bags of fertilizer meant for vulnerable families had gone missing in Jengamvura.

“As the DCC, we figured out that some of the village heads in this ward had stolen presidential inputs, thereby, putting the name of Zanu-PF in disrepute. I am told the stolen fertilizer was recovered and they will be distributed to those that did not get them,” Musarara said.

We are going to make sure that disciplinary action is taken to deal with the culprits.”

Mazowe DCC secretary for production Tichaona Chawana apologised to party supporters.

“I can confirm that the said fertilizer was stolen, but I would like to apologise on behalf of the village heads. We have since recovered the loot.  May we continue to vote for Zanu-PF because the CCC (Citizens Coalition for Change) has nothing to offer,” Chawana said.

Zanu-PF central committee member John Nhamburo also attended the rally.-Newsday
