A first for Zimbabwe: MedOrange launches pharmacy in your pocket app

Those in the Diaspora can buy medication for their loved ones back home at the click of a button

HARARE, August 17, 2023 – MedOrange Pharmacies, the leading health, wellness and beauty centre in Zimbabwe, has launched a mobile application, MedOrange Mobile App, which offers online prescription services.

The app offers online prescription services, allowing users to order medication for loved ones online for delivery to the doorsteps of beneficiaries in Zimbabwe. The app will benefit people on chronic medication who need regular prescriptions for their treatment. Via the MedOrange app, patients can also consult with doctors directly and get access to a wide catalogue of health, beauty and wellness products digitally. The MedOrange mobile app is the first such platform in Zimbabwe.

Also available are features such as reminders on when to take your medication, pre-ordering of medication, purchasing common health and beauty products and booking an appointment with a doctor. The new app helps Zimbabweans feel confident in managing their medicines and those of their loved ones since it has the option to add dependents.

“Our new app is akin to having a pharmacy right in your pocket. It enables our customers to upload prescriptions, access all their medical records and order health, beauty and wellness products in one place at the same time as well. A unique offering is that customers are able to use the app to set up appointments with our partner doctors, be it a virtual meeting, home visit or a walk-in appointment. This reduces the stress of first having to make a trip to the doctor’s office for a check-up,” said Wayne Chidakwa, Platform Support Lead at MedOrange Pharmacies.

Diana Hore, Managing Director at MedOrange Pharmacies, commented: “We are excited about how the app will benefit our customers. We are particularly delighted for Zimbabweans in the Diaspora. In our interaction with them, they told us that they want to have meds delivered directly to their loved ones in Zimbabwe, especially those on regular treatment for chronic conditions. This app responds to their needs.”

This eliminates the hassle of patients trying to remember when to take their medication and when to refill their prescriptions.

Yolandah Sibanda, eStore Manager at MedOrange Pharmacies, added: “The app is more than just a repeat reminder service. It gives our customers trusted care and advice at their fingertips since they can chat with a pharmacist on the platform.”

The MedOrange Mobile app is now available to download via the Apple and Google Play store and supports all payment methods, from Visa cards to EcoCash.  You can also visit your local MedOrange Pharmacy for help getting set up on the app.

Zimbabwean Cricketers Shine In SA

ZIMBABWE’S emerging cricket players are having a decent showing in South Africa, proving that they have what it takes to compete on the global stage after giving their South African counterparts a run for their money.

The Roy Kaia-captained emerging squad is faring well on South African soil where they are playing their counterparts in an unofficial five-match one-day series in Pretoria.

Zimbabwe is maximising on the tour to gain all-round experience as South Africa is well-up in terms of its game, ranking sixth on the One Day International standings, five places above Zimbabwe.

With the tour significant in Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC)’s strategic plan, the emerging players have proven to be a force to reckon with, taking the ascendency by claiming a one-nil lead in the first tie of the five-match series with a six-wicket victory on Sunday.

Joylord Gumbie, Milton Shumba and Clive Madande all scored half-centuries in the victory while Tanaka Chivanga and Brandon Mavuta shared seven wickets between them.

Mavuta, who leads the wickets column in the series was equally outstanding with the ball Tuesday claiming four scalps before scoring 68 runs in Zimbabwe’s 19-run defeat to the hosts.

Once again 22-year-old Madande put on a decent show with the bat, scoring 40-runs to lead the batting leaderboard while Wesley Madhevere joined the act with 55 runs as Zimbabwe emerging fell just short of the 295 runs scored by their neighbours to level the series.

Four-Zimbabwean batsmen lead the top five while two bowlers are among the top-three wicket-takers in the series as the Zimbabweans are going toe to toe with their neighbours.

Meanwhile, having recorded a victory apiece, the rivals will battle to take the lead in the next match pencilled for Friday in Pretoria.

SADC Slams George Charamba Over Abuse Of Its Logo

By A Correspondent | Gaborone, Botswana – The Southern African Development Community (SADC) has strongly criticized the unauthorized use of its logo in a recent news article titled “Stray and we will deport you: Charamba warns election observers.” In a statement released today, SADC expressed its deep concern over the misrepresentation of its brand image.

The article, published by the Herald Newspaper of Zimbabwe and available on the “newsdzezimbabwe” website, included an image of an individual adorned in SADC Election Observation Mission (SEOM) attire. The story alleges that foreign election observers deployed to Zimbabwe for the upcoming elections on August 23, 2023, have ulterior motives and a pro-opposition agenda.

SADC Secretary-General underscored that the individuals and institutions mentioned in the article are not associated with SADC or its official election observation mission. The utilization of the SADC logo alongside this narrative falsely associates the organization with observers alleged to be interfering in Zimbabwe’s electoral processes.

This misuse of the SADC brand image not only places the organization in an unfavorable light but also has the potential to jeopardize the safety of SADC personnel. The Secretariat called for immediate corrective action to rectify this situation and ensure that the public is not misled by false connections.

SADC remains committed to upholding the integrity of its brand and its vital role in fostering regional cooperation and development. The organization urges all stakeholders to accurately represent its efforts and refrain from using its logo for misleading purposes.

Security Guard Arrested for Theft at DHL

BULAWAYO, August 18, 2023 — In a shocking turn of events, a security guard based in Bulawayo has been apprehended by the local police for allegedly engaging in unlawful entry and theft at the DHL main offices situated in the city center. The accused, identified as Malvin Chimange, a 26-year-old resident of the Entumbane suburb, was employed as a security guard at the very same DHL offices where the incidents occurred.

Bulawayo police spokesperson, Inspector Abednico Ncube, confirmed the arrest and provided further details on the case. According to Insp Ncube’s statement, the accused, Chimange, reportedly carried out the illegal activities over a span of one month, from July 2023 to August 2023. During this period, Chimange allegedly employed unknown means to access the company’s restricted premises.

“During the period from 3 July 2023 up to 15 August 2023, the accused person was breaking into the offices using unknown means,” revealed Insp Ncube. “While inside, he was targeting cash from different offices. Firstly, he stole US$315-00 from the first office, the money was inside a drawer. He went on to the next office and took US$600-00. On another date, the accused person used the same style of breaking in and stole US$900-00 and ZAR 2 400-00 from another office.”

The breakthrough in the case came when the company reviewed CCTV footage on August 11, 2023. The footage allegedly showed Chimange stealing the money, leading to his subsequent arrest.

“On the 11th of August 2023, the CCTV footage was viewed and it showed the accused person stealing the money, leading to his arrest,” explained Insp Ncube. “A total value of US$1 815-00 and ZAR 2 400-00 was stolen, and USD 1 460-00 and ZAR 2 400-00 were recovered.”

As a result of this incident, local authorities are urging companies to remain vigilant against potential inside job crimes. Inspector Abednico Ncube emphasized the importance of companies taking additional measures to safeguard their premises against such actions.

“As police, we urge companies to guard against inside job crimes; clearly these crimes were committed by someone who was supposed to guard the premises,” stated Insp Ncube.

The accused, Malvin Chimange, is now facing charges related to unlawful entry and theft, and the case is set to be further investigated by the relevant authorities.

For now, this shocking incident serves as a reminder of the need for heightened security measures within workplaces to prevent similar occurrences in the future. The authorities are committed to maintaining the safety and integrity of businesses across the region.- state media

Nelson Chamisa’s Crowd Captivating Mutoko Speech

By Dorrothy Moyo | In a powerful and impassioned address at the Mutoko Rally, opposition leader Nelson Chamisa outlined an ambitious vision for the future of Mutoko, captivating the crowd with his promises for economic transformation and equitable development. Speaking before an engaged audience, Chamisa laid out a comprehensive plan to uplift the region and address key concerns voiced by the local populace.

Chamisa began by highlighting the importance of Mutoko’s granite minerals, pledging that under his leadership, no granite minerals would leave the region without undergoing thorough value addition and beneficiation processes. This commitment, he argued, would not only ensure that the local resources contribute significantly to the region’s economy but also create more job opportunities for the community.

One of the key focal points of Chamisa’s speech was the revitalization of market gardening in Mutoko. He emphasized his dedication to promoting and supporting local market gardening endeavors, and his plan to establish industries that process the region’s agricultural products, including prized crops like tomatoes. This approach, Chamisa explained, would not only bolster the local economy but also provide a foundation for sustainable growth.

Touching on the contentious issue of mineral discovery and its potential impact on communities, Chamisa vowed to prevent any illegal displacement of people from their ancestral lands due to such discoveries. He expressed a strong commitment to consulting with landowners in areas where mineral deposits are found and ensuring fair compensation for those affected.

In a move to restore the dignity of traditional leaders, Chamisa promised to prohibit the political installation of Chiefs, asserting that such decisions should be made by the clan. He also underscored the importance of fair allocation of vending markets, free from political influence, and pledged to create additional vending markets to bolster local businesses.

The MATURA initiative, which Chamisa outlined, aims to uplift rural Mutoko through comprehensive economic and social strategies. The leader urged locals to vote for his party, the CCC, as the driving force behind the transformation he envisions. With a resounding call for economic change that benefits all, Chamisa concluded his speech by invoking a vision of Mutoko that is prosperous, inclusive, and stands as a testament to the power of unified action and collective progress.

ZRP Cop Arrested

In a shocking incident that has sent shockwaves through the community, a police officer stationed at Fairbridge Police Camp has been arrested for an alleged act of brutality. The officer in question, identified as Gerald Zhou, is facing serious charges after he was accused of dragging a woman, Nyembesi Mafanele, with his car for a disturbing distance.

According to sources familiar with the situation, Mafanele, who is employed as a general hand at Fairbridge Police Camp, had reportedly been involved in a dispute with Zhou, who works in the Support Unit Section of the police. Despite their apparent disagreement, Mafanele found herself in a harrowing situation when she accepted a ride from Zhou.

The troubling incident reportedly took place when Zhou and Mafanele were at a bus stop. Zhou allegedly stopped his car, and Mafanele began to disembark. However, things took a terrifying turn when Zhou suddenly accelerated the vehicle while Mafanele was still holding on to the door, desperately pleading with him to stop. Despite her cries, Zhou purportedly continued to drive, dragging Mafanele for a distance of more than five meters.

The horrifying ordeal resulted in Mafanele losing her grip and being violently thrown to the ground. The impact caused her to sustain injuries, including a disfigured finger and injuries to her face. Thankfully, a Good Samaritan was quick to assist and rushed her to United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH) for medical attention.

Following the incident and the subsequent report to authorities, Gerald Zhou was apprehended and is now facing a grave charge of attempted murder. He is expected to stand trial before a Bulawayo regional magistrate to address the allegations brought against him. The incident has left the community stunned and has ignited conversations about the conduct and accountability of law enforcement officers.

As this case unfolds, local residents and advocates are looking to the legal system for justice, hoping that the accused officer will be held accountable for his actions.- state media

Holy Ten Confidently Advertises Book That Exposes Mnangagwa As Just A Rhodesian Spy, Nothing More

By Farai D Hove | Is it laziness, or ignorance, or both? The musician Holy Ten perhaps displayed his levels yesterday when he advertised the Emmerson Mnangagwa biography that exposes the ZANU PF leader as a Rhodesian Spy who never fought in the Chimurenga war, did not bomb any train, and there’s not even a bird of the forest that he shot down against the Ian Smith regime.

Holy Ten while campaigning for the ZANU PF coup leader over the upcoming 2023 elections may have been unaware that the biography he is showing off, is the most authoritative revelation to date that Mnangagwa is a fake comrade of the nation’s black people’s fight for liberation.

Eddie Cross

Emmerson Mnangagwa’s publicist, and authorised biographer, Eddie Cross exposed the ZANU PF coup leader for falsifying that he was sentenced to death for bombing a Rhodesian train, revelations which correlate with others by senior veterans who showcase how Mnangagwa is in the class of the gun totting former British South Africa Police reserve cop Phillip Chiyangwa.

Cross reveals with impecable evidence that Mnangagwa did not bomb any property, and he was spared the death penalty because his crime was not that serious, Oxford academic, Miles Tendi breaks this down.

Mnangagwa as he authorised the biography that exposes him for lying

Cross’ biography corrects falsifications of significant episodes in Mnangagwa’s life story, writes Tendi.

He continues saying: One example will suffice. Mnangagwa, in The Sunday Mail of 22 February 2015, narrated that he was spared the death penalty in 1965 for using explosives to cause damage to a railway engine, as part of early liberation struggle sabotage campaigns. According to Mnangagwa in 2015: “the age of majority then was 21. I was below 21, so I escaped the noose. My colleagues were, however, hanged”.

Cross corrects this account by reproducing the High Court of Rhodesia’s 1965 sentence in the biography.

The High Court’s sentence reads: the court accepts “the fact that you are 18 years and seven months old. That being so, in terms of this section of the Law and Order (Maintenance) Act, the court has a discretion as to whether to impose upon you the death penalty or to send you to prison for a period up to a maximum of 20 years. Generally speaking, it seems to me that where the Court has a discretion in dealing with an offender under the age of 19, the death penalty is appropriate for the worst type of case where, for example, petrol bombs have been cold-bloodedly and deliberately thrown into residential buildings occupied by persons causing them misery and suffering. This is not such a case, although it is a serious crime according to law. I do not therefore propose to sentence you to death in this case”.

Thus, contrary to Mnangagwa’s longstanding claim he was spared death because he was underage, Mnangagwa was in fact not sentenced to death in 1965 because his crime was considered by the judge as not grave enough to warrant hanging. Cross deserves commendation for setting the historical record straight in this instance.

FULL TEXT:

This authorised biography tells the life history of Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa, from childhood to presidency. The biography is 153 pages long. It consists of a foreword, an editor’s note by Rachel Jambaya, 30 brief chapters, and a conclusion.

The biographer, Eddie Graham Cross, is an economist, a regular commentator on public affairs and former Secretary for Economic Affairs in the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC), a party he left in 2018 after 19 years of serving in a range of executive positions at national level. Cross drew on personal interviews with Mnangagwa in order to complete the biography.

Cross has written a controversial biography of Mnangagwa.

The biography depicts vice president Constantino Chiwenga, the former general who helped bring Mnangagwa to power in a military coup in 2017, in an unfavourable light. It is also replete with conspicuous historical distortions and silences. Nonetheless, the biography does have some strengths, such as its presentation of the true version of certain important events in Mnangagwa’s life.

Cross’s corrections bring to light Mnangagwa’s mythomania. Mnangagwa penned the biography’s foreword, graced its official presentation on 5 August 2021, delightedly signed copies of the book at the launch and he did not publicly rebut any of the biography’s contents. Consequently, it is fair to conclude that Mnangagwa wholly endorses his biographer’s work.

‘Military figures’

Cross writes that following Mnangagwa’s inauguration as president of Zimbabwe on 24 November 2017, “he set about selecting a new cabinet and senior staff in the president’s office. This was complicated by the demands being made by the senior military officers who had carried out what became known as the military assisted transition (military coup). Chief among these was the commander of the armed forces, General Chiwenga”.

Cross adds that Mnangagwa’s first cabinet “received mixed reviews” partly because it contained “too many military figures”.

Elsewhere in the biography, Cross states Mnangagwa “replaced General Chiwenga with General Philip Sibanda” as commander of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces and he avers that Sibanda is “possibly the best soldier in southern Africa and a man that was deeply respected in the army. Mnangagwa’s actions drew little attention but what the president was doing was closing the door on any possibility of the military assisted transition (military coup) being repeated. He needed to know that the security services were led by men in whom he had confidence as professionals”.

Additionally, Cross maintains that when violence and looting occurred in January 2019, the acting President Chiwenga “demanded that a state of emergency be declared and martial law be introduced. This would have effectively meant that the armed forces took over the administration of the state”. However, Cross continues, “General Sibanda refused. He said his orders from the President were clear. What had happened was that the President had stamped his personal authority on the state. He would not tolerate any challenge”.

‘Hardliners’

Cross makes reference to “hardliners” (Chiwenga ostensibly) who, before the July 2018 election, “argued that reforms to the electoral system and any relaxation of controls over the media and civil society would have serious impact on the ability of ZANU PF to win the election.

Moreover, Cross contends that a grenade thrown at Mnangagwa on 23 June 2018 during a ZANU PF rally at White City stadium in Bulawayo “was of Chinese origin and in use by the Zimbabwe National Army”.

Chiwenga was present at the White City rally and his wife Marry sustained injuries from the blast but Cross, curiously, does not mention this. Of the two vice presidents, only Kembo Mohadi is identified as present at the rally and as having sustained injuries along with 47 others.

From the foregoing, Cross appears to be casting aspersions on Chiwenga as a political operator. His biography suggests that Mnangagwa and Chiwenga are ill at ease with each other. Cross typecasts Chiwenga as obstructing political and economic reforms and as in favour of repressive and militarised state responses such as martial law. He intimates that Sibanda is a more “professional” soldier than Chiwenga who Mnangagwa trusts will not carry out a coup – a contentious assertion, given that Sibanda participated in the 2017 coup.

Corrections

Let me now turn to some of the ways in which the biography corrects falsifications of significant episodes in Mnangagwa’s life story. One example will suffice.

Cross-checking

Although Cross debunks some of Mnangagwa’s mythomania, he too is a mythomaniac. For example, Cross writes that Mnangagwa “was designated as one of the leaders” of the crocodile gang in the 1960s and insinuates that Mnangagwa was involved in the killing of Pieter Oberholzer in Chimanimani in 1964. Mnangagwa was, of course, not a member of the crocodile gang and he was not implicated in Oberholzer’s killings, as scholarly works by Baxter Tavuyanago and Terence Ranger show.

Cross’s expertise as an economist encumbered his ability to generate a credible biography of Mnangagwa. Trained economists should probably stick to writing about economics, not liberation, military and political histories, which are beyond their knowledge.

For instance, Cross refers to the Zimbabwe People’s Revolutionary Army (ZIPRA) as the ‘Zimbabwe Independent People’s Revolutionary Army’.

In 1978, ZIPRA shot down two Rhodesian Viscount planes but Cross writes that the downing occurred in 1962 and, erroneously, uses it as an example of how the “guerrilla war was gaining momentum”.

Furthermore, according to Cross, in 1975 Herbert Chitepo was “assassinated in what is suspected as inter party violence and conflict”. This is a bizarre contention since the competing views on Chitepo’s assassination are that it was the result of an intra ZANU conflict or that the Rhodesian security forces carried out the hit. Is Cross suggesting, through the statement ‘inter party conflict’, that ZAPU assassinated Chitepo?

What is the evidence for this?

Zimbabwe entered the second Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) war to assist Laurent Kabila to fend off a rebel insurgency in 1998, but Cross, incorrectly, writes that Zimbabwe intervened “to support the campaign by Laurent Desire Kabila to take power from the long standing dictator Mobutu Sese Seko”.

What is more, the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) was created through the merger of three rival armies – the Rhodesian army, ZANLA and ZIPRA but Cross, speciously, writes that five armies merged to form the ZNA.

Silences

Then there are the biography’s historical silences.

Despite crediting Mnangagwa as having taken charge of operations during the late 1990s DRC war, Cross is silent about United Nations and non-governmental organisation reports about corruption during Zimbabwe’s involvement in the second DRC war.

Cross also seeks to downplay the role of Mnangagwa and the CIO in the 1980s Gukurahundi. Cross would have us believe that Mugabe’s instructions on Gukurahundi only went directly to "the 5th Brigade and to the Ministry Of Home Affairs and the Police on the ground" and excluded CIO, which fell under Mnangagwa’s Security Ministry.

Yet, as the CCJPZ report Breaking The Silence: Report On The Disturbances in Matabeleland and Midlands discloses, CIO was in fact central to Gukurahundi operations and it functioned from within Mugabe’s office. Cross is also silent about Mnangagwa’s role in the strong March to June 2008 political violence.

Cross’s writing radiates colonial overtones.

The scholar Kristen Harkness points out that “British martial race doctrine, developed first in colonial India, stipulated that some ethnic groups were naturally more suited to combat and military discipline than others. Once groups were classified as martial they were preferentially recruited into the British colonial forces”.

It is precisely this colonial martial race doctrine that underlies Cross’s unevidenced contention that Mnangagwa was recruited in ZAPU in 1962 partly because of “his potential from a military point of view given his Karanga tribal background and physique” – the implication being that Karangas are “naturally more suited to combat”.

Indeed, Cross largely understands the politics and history of Africans through colonial tropes like “tribes” and “tribalism”. Never mind that the notion of “tribe” is, today, bereft of analytical purchase because it lacks a sense of social scale and complexity and it presupposes savagery, primitiveness, irrational violence and ancient hatreds in Africans.

A final important silence concerns Mnangagwa’s personal dimension. Bar his early family history, we get no real sense of who Mnangagwa is today, his actual character away from political performance and the composition of his immediate family, making for a rather impersonal biography.

The wives of politicians matter. Who is Auxillia Mnangagwa and how has she impacted Mnangagwa’s personal and political trajectories? What are the ideas, thinkers or books that have shaped Mnangagwa’s political outlooks?

Perhaps Cross will care to address these crucial questions and the aforementioned shortcomings in a second edition of his biography of Mnangagwa.

Liberty Masibi stands accused of fatally stabbing Charles Ngara as tensions escalated in the rivalry for the woman’s company. Reports indicate that the altercation transpired at Manditanga Night Club, where Masibi was accompanied by a friend. Ngara was also present, sharing drinks with the sex worker, known only as Maria.

A disagreement between Masibi and Ngara over Maria quickly escalated into a physical confrontation. Eyewitnesses recount that the brawl spilled out of the bar and onto the streets, where Masibi reportedly produced a knife and inflicted a deep stab wound to Ngara’s thigh. The severity of the injury caused Ngara to bleed profusely, prompting concerned patrons to intervene.

Both men were rushed to Tsanzaguru Clinic, from where they were subsequently transferred to Rusape General Hospital. Tragically, Ngara succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.

Masibi was promptly apprehended by the police while still at the hospital. Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Norbert Muzondo, referred media outlets to national police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi for more information.

However, at the time of reporting, Assistant Commissioner Nyathi was unavailable for comment. The incident has left the community shaken, highlighting the dangers of such altercations and underscoring the need for conflict resolution mechanisms.

As the investigation unfolds, the community mourns the loss of a life and the harrowing circumstances that led to this tragedy.- State Media

Chamisa Rally Blocked In The Eyes Of Foreign Observers

By-Authorities in Mashonaland Central have barred CCC from holding cluster rallies at Kandeya Village business centre and Dotito in Mt Darwin.

CCC wanted to meet Mt Darwin supporters tomorrow August 18.

In a statement, CCC said the Police advised them that the rallies could not proceed because the venues had already been booked.

Reads the statement:
Our cluster rallies, which were scheduled to take place on Friday, August 18, 2023, at Kandeya Village business center and Dotito in Mt Darwin, have been denied by the [Zimbabwe Republic Police].
These denials come under controversial reasons, as they claim that the venues are already occupied on the same date.
It is evident that this is a systematic approach employed by the regime in Harare to prevent the Citizens movement and its President, Nelson Chamisa, from engaging with the people.
Sadly, these are just some of over 105 rallies and meetings that have been banned on false pretenses and yet we are in the election season.
ZANU PF is running scared and can never win a free and fair election in Zimbabwe.

Tungwarara Demands Zim Dollar Fuel To Implement Presidential Borehole Scheme

By A Correspondent| A company contracted by ZINWA to facilitate the presidential borehole drilling scheme, Prevail International, is demanding Zim-dollar fuel to implement the program despite government’s gazetted policy that restricts trade in fuel to United States dollars.

In a letter seen by NewsDay Weekender, the company, headed by businessman Paul Tempter Tungwarara, requested 400,000 litres of diesel per month from the state-run oil distributor, PetroTrade, for its borehole drilling operations, which would be paid on Zim-dollar terms.

“Prevail International has been awarded a national status tender for borehole drilling services and spearheaded by his Excellency, President ED Mnangagwa,” the letter read.

“However, because this is a fuel-intensive project, we respectfully request your assistance in availing the weekly allocation of 100 000 litres of diesel direct Zimdollar payments bulk fuel. We anticipate that your approval of a weekly Zimdollar allocation towards the purchase of fuel for this borehole [initiative] will enable smoother operations and implementation for the benefit of the nation at large. We appreciate your efforts in our respect and anticipate a favourable response,” he added.

In his response, Tungwarara argued that there is nothing wrong with his request as it is meant for development.

This is not Tungwarara’s first time to name-drop the President in order to facilitate his dealings.

The businessman, who is part of the development of Zimbabwe’s US$500 million cyber city in Mt Hampden, has been working with billionaire investors on the construction and surfacing of roads at the multi-million-dollar project spearheaded by United Arab Emirates-based business tycoon, Shaji Ul Mulk.

But he has faced accusations of defrauding seven businessmen of US$2 million and allegedly name-dropping Mnangagwa and other top government officials for protection.

The ward’s Mtshabi villagers are currently forced to walk long distances to access healthcare services.

The nearest clinic is in Nesigwe village, about 20km away.

Their plight was exposed during a sitting of the Nkayi Community Parliament (NCP), a replica of the country’s National Assembly, where the communities discuss issues affecting the district.

Nkayi RDC has since approved a proposal to construct a clinic in the ward, community chairperson Baron Ncube confirmed.

“I thank (NCP) Parliament for the good work and effort it made to assist ward 5 to have a clinic pegged,” Ncube said.

“As I speak, (Nkayi RDC chief executive officer Silibele)  Mpofu is from the Sibangilizwe community, where he pegged the clinic.”

On Monday, the national executive led by political commissar Joel Mureremba met the Mashonaland East provincial executive at Murehwa Centre. Mureremba said they fully support President Mnangagwa because of his developmental policies and works that are transforming people’s lives.

“We are on a campaign programme across the country where we are calling on our members to be on the ground and mobilise people to go and vote on August 23,” he said.

“We are encouraging all cadres, all children of war veterans, war collaborators, detainees and their children, to vote for President Mnangagwa on voting day. President Mnangagwa is our patron. We want all Zanu-PF candidates to win. So, we are here together with all provincial chairpersons and others so that we drum up support for the ruling party.

“We are campaigning for Zanu-PF and President Mnangagwa. We support our patron and Zanu-PF and we encourage our members to vote for the ruling party.”

Mashonaland East provincial chairman, Daniel Sigauke, said it was important to vote for President Mnangagwa because he has done tremendous development in the last five years.

“Our main purpose for this meeting is to drum up support for the President and Zanu-PF. Our wish is for Zanu-PF to win in all seats across the country.  President Mnangagwa has done a lot in short space of time and we are sure that greater things are coming.

“On development, the President has done a lot in the past few years. He is a committed leader who is there to transform this nation and everyone’s livelihood. He needs that mandate going forward so that he keeps on developing this nation, leaving no one and no place behind.”

Sigauke said President Mnangagwa’s mantra of “leaving no one and no place behind” was being witnessed on the ground and they will support him for that.

“In this province, we have seen roads being constructed, dams and infrastructure. We have one of the biggest lithium processing plants and an iron and steel plant.

High Court Judge Says His Life is in Danger

By A Correspondent- High Court judge Justice Never Katiyo has accused the opposition of endangering his life and that of his family members by publicly criticising him after he dismissed the party’s application for the release of an updated voters roll.

Katiyo on Monday dismissed the application as not urgent, sparking fury among the opposition camps.

Yesterday, he said his mobile number was posted on social media after the judgment.

“Let’s be guided by the court procedures. We should know what to say in public, especially since the matter is still before the court,” Katiyo said.

“For members of the public to be told that the ruling of the judge was incorrect, that the procedure was not good was not right. I’m quite aware that there are some court officials who made some comments. Let’s not be especially involved and incite members of the public.

“If such sentiments are to come where my number is publicised, it would be a matter of concern. It involves my family and my security and we should be responsible as court officials.”

He urged parties to find each other, saying if they fail to reach an agreement, the matter will be argued before him today.

“Honourable Katiyo felt that this was a matter capable of resolution if parties were to consider their respective conditions which position we equally agree with as parties,” said Obey Shava who is representing the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC).

Zec has been taken to court by opposition parties on several occasions for refusing to release the voters roll.

CCC secretary for elections Ian Makone filed the latest urgent High Court application seeking an order to compel Zec to provide an up-to-date copy of the voters roll.

Makone cited Zec, its chairperson Priscilla Chigumba and the chief elections officer Utloile Silaigwana as respondents.-newsday

ZEC Ready to Deliver Free and Fair Elections

By A Correspondent- The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission is ready to deliver free and credible elections next Wednesday with most of the logistical arrangements now in place.

The chairperson of the electoral body, Justice Priscilla Chigumba, said this at an elections observer and media briefing in Harare yesterday ahead of the harmonised elections on August 23.

Former Mozambican President Mr Joachim Chissano and the head of the Sadc Observer Mission and former Zambian vice president, Mr Nevers Mumba, attended the briefing.

In her presentation, Justice Chigumba said ZEC was an independent body and was not influenced by Government, any organisation or individuals.

“The Commission has procured all essential electoral materials and has delivered 80 percent of them to provinces under police escort and I would like to thank the police, who are one of our valued stakeholders and we appreciate you.

“I would like to inform you that the Commission is ready to conduct the 2023 harmonised elections and I would like to appreciate our Ministry of Finance for funding almost 100 percent of our requirements,” she said.

“We hope to deliver a free, fair and credible election and in fact as I stand before you as Chairperson of ZEC, I would like to assure you that we have everything in place be it legal, social or any other requirement and we are eager to conduct a free, fair and credible election”.

Justice Chigumba said they had recruited about 150 000 electoral officers that would be deployed throughout the country while 12 374 polling stations had been created and the list would be published on August 23.

She said all contestants in the elections had been given copies of the voters’ roll as required by law with those contesting the local authorities’ elections being given the ward voters’ roll while those vying for the National Assembly seats got the constituency voters’ roll and the presidential candidates received the national voters’ roll.

Justice Chigumba said 6 623 511 people had been registered to vote, but the country’s laws did not compel citizens to vote. As such ZEC could only encourage people to exercise their right to vote.

As at August 14, ZEC had accredited 3 572 local observers,136 foreign observers, 376 local journalists and 15 foreign journalists.

“All duly accredited observers should familiarise themselves with the code of conduct for observers which is a subsidiary of the electoral laws,” Justice Chigumba said.

Speaking at the same occasion, the Commissioner-General of the Zimbabwe Republic Police, Godwin Matanga, said the situation in the country was generally peaceful ahead of the polls save for isolated incidents.

“The security situation in the country has largely remained peaceful and conducive for free, fair and credible elections,” he said.

The harmonised elections will see 11 candidates contesting the presidential polls, 518 National Assembly constituency candidates sponsored by political parties and 64 independent candidates, while 4 648 local authority candidates sponsored by political parties are contesting with 266 of them being independent.

Ninety-one local authority candidates are uncontested.-statemedia

Church Members Back Bishop Who Proposed Love To Own Daughter In Law

By A Correspondent- The majority of Zion Christian Church Kumuka Kwavakafa Nhaudzashe (ZCCKK) members have reportedly rallied behind Bishop Lyphet Matenda Mugaviri who allegedly proposed love to his daughter-in-law.

There are fears that the church could be headed for an acrimonious split after some members pushed for Mugaviri’s ouster following the scandal.

The bulk of the church elders have reportedly backed Bishop Mugaviri to remain their leader although other members who wanted him disciplined have already left the church.

Church spokesperson, Mubhoyi Kufakunesu told H-Metro that mistakes happen but they were fully behind Bishop Mugaviri. He said:

All church branches are in support of our bishop and only one centre leader by the name Elder Jonathan decided to go his way.

We are moving forward as a church and we have managed to hold our ground-breaking ceremony for Canaan Junior School followed by celebrating the birthday anniversary of Bishop Nhaudzashe Matenda.

The church is working together with the community in uplifting their livelihoods.

The church is no longer going to lose focus or get distracted but we will continue to grow our church and shepherd the Lord’s flock.

We are grateful that we are guided by our constitution and led by the word of prophecy.

We acknowledge mistakes happen and we have corrective measures.

l can confirm to you that it was a long battle within the family and that matter was blown out of proportion.

That minor fraction had a selfish reason to tarnish the church.

Mubhoyi said, out of the 30 elders, only two decided to leave the church.

About New COVID-19 Variant

New COVID-19 variant discovered, public urged to vaccinate

SOUTH African Medical Association (SAMA) says a new COVID-19 variant has been discovered, EG. 5 last week Thursday.

This variant is said to be the most transmissible than any of the previous variants and dangerous to those who did not vaccinate and those over the age of 65.

SAMA Chairperson Dr Mvuyisi Mzukwa recommends wearing masks and social distancing going forward.

“Government should be encouraging citizens to vaccinate especially those that are at higher risk, prevent infection and there should be a continuous public message on education on how to avoid infections.”

US cases increase

Meanwhile, a new COVID-19 vaccine is due out next month in the United States but health experts and analysts say it is likely to be coolly received even as hospitalisations from “Eris”, a variant of the Omicron form of the coronavirus, rise around the country.

Some public health experts hope that Americans will welcome the new shot as they would a flu jab. But demand for the vaccine has dropped sharply since 2021 when it first became available and more than 240 million people in the US, or 73% of the population, received at least one shot.

In the fall of 2022, by which time most people had either had the COVID-19 virus or the vaccine, fewer than 50 million people got the shots.

Healthcare providers and pharmacies such as CVS Health will start next month to offer the shot, updated to fight the Omicron version of the virus that has been dominant since last year.

After Repeatedly Deploying Soldiers To Change Election Results Govt Says CCC’s “Defend The Vote” Talk Is A Threat To Peace

Controversy Erupts Over Electoral Security Concerns Amidst Government’s Deployment Plans.

Nick Mangwana

By Farai D Hove | ZimEye | Tensions have escalated in Zimbabwe as the nation grapples with conflicting narratives surrounding electoral security. The Ministry of Information, Publicity, and Broadcasting Services’ Permanent Secretary, Ndavaningi “Nick” Mangwana, has ignited a fierce debate by characterizing the opposition’s call for citizens to “defend the vote” as a potential threat to peace.

However, a deeper examination of recent developments casts doubt on Mangwana’s assertions. Government ruling party Spokesman Christopher Mutsvangwa has since December 2017 publicly and repeatedly announced that the government plans to deploy not only troublemakers but soldiers to alter the election results (click to watch video). This announcement directly contradicts Mangwana’s claim that the “defend the vote” initiative poses a threat to peace.

Between December 15, 2017, and August 5, 2023, the government has repeatedly announced and executed the deployment of soldiers and troublemakers to change election results. This was first launched by Mutsvangwa’s statement before foreign diplomats in Harare on 15 December 2017 as he vividly outlined the deployment of soldiers for this purpose, a plan now being resurrected for the upcoming 2023 polls. “That election we shall win on a margin bigger than the one we did in 1980… We shall work hard with the ZDF, the best army in the world, ” said ZANU PF spokesperson Christopher Mutsvangwa, clearly announcing before foreign diplomats in Harare the deployment of soldiers to change election results which operation was witnessed on 1st August 2018 and has now been rehashed for the 2023 polls. After soldiers had executed their first operation on 1 August 2018, the following day, Vice President Constantino Chiwenga shifted the blame to accuse Nelson  Chamisa’s party, as he said the people who fired bullets on the innocent civilians were Chamisa’s hooligans,  and when pressed with questions, he shifted to say that the bullets were produced by teargas canisters. After the Motlanthe led Commission was convened to investigate the criminals behind the electoral violence, and legislator and Chamisa deputy, Tendai Biti was forcibly deported from Zambia with the help of former president Edgar Lungu, while blaming Biti to be the violence perpetrator, 7 months later, ZANU PF President, Emmerson Mnangagwa himself would announce to parliament that he is the one who deployed the soldiers.

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission is since March 2018  controlled by the military and Zimbabwe National Army Major Utloile Silaigwana is ZEC’s Chief Elections Officer. ZEC’s Head of Security, Mavis Matsanga is a serving Central Intelligence Organisation Director and she reports straight to CIO Director General Isaac Moyo.

Beyond the militarization, the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission is at a majority span manned by children of top ZANU PF leaders with at least 5 of the 9 commissioners being kids of ZANU PF politburo and central committee members of the incumbent Emmerson Mnangagwa’s headship (see video of undercover discussion with ZEC’s chairperson Priscilla Chigumba.)

Aside this development, are even more sophisticated operations run on behalf of the government by celebrated journalist Hopewell Chin’ono (and George-Charamba-contender for the ministry job) who for a period of over 6 years has been using award-winning-anti-corruption badge to discredit Nelson Chamisa and the entire civil society as people who have been bribed by western embassies, claims with which he leaked addresses of safe houses for torture victims to Constantino Chiwenga and as late as 6 July 2023 would falsely suggest that the entire civil society has been bribed (click here for the  17 min video compilation.)  So effective has this method been that Charamba fearing for his job, ended up revealing to the public how Chin’ono leaked the tortured activist’s addresses to the government in order to expose Chinono among his support base in the opposition (video).

Meanwhile, the opposition party, CCC, has been urging its supporters to remain at polling stations until votes are counted and results posted, aiming to guard against possible rigging. This stance has ignited a clash of perspectives between those who believe in ensuring the integrity of the election process and those advocating for maintaining peace and stability.

In response to criticism, Mangwana condemned the call to defend votes, arguing that it could lead to potential conflicts at polling stations. However, supporters of the CCC emphasize that there is no law against waiting for election results, pointing to past peaceful rallies with large crowds as evidence of the potential for order.

Renowned novelist Tsitsi Dangarembga has questioned the motives behind discouraging the defense of the vote, while citizens like Nyasha Gwata have raised concerns about the country’s high unemployment rate, which affects the feasibility of engaging in business activities as Mangwana suggests.

The controversy comes at a crucial time, with elections approaching and citizens grappling with the complex balance between safeguarding democratic processes and maintaining peace. As the discourse unfolds, Zimbabwe’s future remains uncertain, hinging on the delicate balance between electoral security and civil order.

New COVID-19 Variant Discovered

THE 2023 Chibuku Super Cup promises to be exciting after the traditional football giants CAPS United, Dynamos and Highlanders made it past the first round of the country’s premier knockout competition.

The three traditional giants of Zimbabwean football all made it past the first round of the Chibuku Super Cup with Dynamos edging Simba Bhora one-nil at Barbourfields Stadium, while CAPS United matched that result when they got the better of Hwange at Bata Stadium this Sunday.

Highlanders survived a scare after being stretched by city rivals and defending champions Bulawayo Chiefs but eventually triumphed 6-5 on penalties.

The match had ended two-all in regulation time.

It was not just the traditional giants which sailed through to the next stage, as the emerging forces also made it to the quarterfinals which sets up explosive last eight.

Defending Premier Soccer League champions FC Platinum, perennial campaigners Chicken Inn and 2016 winners Ngezi Platinum Stars, all booked their places in the quarterfinals.

The results of the first round of the cup competition are also a reflection of the competitive Premier League season.

In the PSL, Highlanders, Ngezi Platinum Stars and Dynamos have all taken turns to top the log standings during the first half of the season.

Ambitious Manica Diamonds who are third in the PSL were probably the biggest casualty after being dumped out of the competition by struggling Black Rhinos.

Defending champions Bulawayo Chiefs are also out but they were expected to struggle after chopping and changing coaches this season.

The quarterfinals are expected to be played next month, with the final set to bring the curtain down on the season in December.

Chamisa Slams Holy Ten

The leader of the opposition CCC, Nelson Chamisa, has predicted the downfall of hip-hop artist Holy Ten should he continue associating with the ruling party.

Chamisa said Holy Ten might lose the support of young people if he continues to endorse Zanu-PF.

Chamisa’s comments follow Holy Ten’s endorsement of President Emmerson Mnangagwa ahead of the upcoming general elections.

In an interview with an online publication, Chamisa stated that Holy Ten’s association with Zanu-PF would not be advantageous for him. Chamisa questioned whether Holy Ten’s appeal to the youth would surpass that of the opposition, emphasising the importance of understanding the prevailing circumstances. He said:

You think Holy Ten would appeal to youths more than we have? If you believe that, you must be living on another planet, come to the earth and appreciate the circumstances.

Holy Ten must be holy, otherwise his unholy alliances are not going to benefit him, he will lose support because young people do not align with what he is supporting.

Young people do not want this kind of misery and darkness. Holy Ten please be Holy and support holiness.

According to Chamisa, young people desire a departure from the hardships and darkness they associate with the ruling party.

Meanwhile, Holy Ten has faced criticism after a video in which he praises Zanu-PF’s projects from the past five years went viral on social media.

One of the people who criticised Holy Ten is journalist Hopewell Chin’ono who said while the musician has the right to support whomever he chooses, it is up to the people of Zimbabwe to decide if they want to continue supporting an artist who aligns with a regime that has imprisoned political opponents like Job Sikhala without conviction.

President Chamisa Addresses “Sabhukus” Fears

Goromonzi West: President Chamisa’s Summary Speech:

Today, President Nelson Chamisa addressed one of the largest crowds in the history of Domboshava.

During his address he made a significant pledge to support the horticultural sector by establishing processing industries for locally grown products like tomatoes. This value addition initiative aims to create job opportunities and drive economic development in the area.

President Chamisa reassured the local chiefs that his government will not take away their land or authority, contrary to allegations made by propagandists. Instead, he promised to restore their dignity by providing them with decent benefits and recognizing the importance of traditional leadership. Furthermore, he expressed his commitment to constructing a state-of-the-art road network, as the current roads in the area are in dire condition with severe damage and potholes.

President Chamisa also pledged to establish tourism businesses in the area, as Domboshava is renowned for its attractive hills. By marketing and revitalizing these natural attractions, it will undoubtedly attract tourists to the area.

He also pledged to regularize residential stands and issue title deeds to the rightful owners.

“Not Putting Women On Ballot Box Is A Sign Of A Not Free And Fair Elections,” Ridiculous- Mavaza

By Dr Masimba Mavaza | The absence of women on ballots indicates that elections are not free and fair. Zimbabweans are shocked by a report by the so-called Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Presidential Centre for Women and Development.

The obscure group gave a report entitled Statement On Political Violence In Zimbabwe. Firstly, the group started by criticising our local government, and the sad thing is that there are no strong points in the unsubstantiated allegations. The points raised by this group were nonsensical and lackedstrong points.

It is not supported by empirical evidence, as opposed to speculators shooting. Every Zimbabwean is asking, “Who are these people masquerading as Democrats, and on whose behalf are they expressing those views? They have raised five points. They start by saying they are concerned. This brings up the question: Who are you? Do you have locus standi? The people who matter are the citizens. The political parties, the candidates, and business people who have an interest in other stakeholder groups, e.g, war vets. If you say you are concerned, who are you? You are relying on donor funding and wish to show some relevance. They then continue to say that there is violence in Zimbabwe. Violence is not something that can be generalised but should detail the nature of the acts of violence and the victims thereof.

Are there any police reports to that effect, and if so, at which police stations? Does violence only apply to the opposition as victims? So the opposition is so saintly that they should always be on the receiving end.

What is so peculiar about Zimbabwe that the West gets to give it so much attention as to forget that they have Ukraine’s issue to solve?

The question we should ask is, What are they saying about violence? They are saying they are concerned about violence. They are trying to discredit the whole election system with allegations that are so ambivalent. Who are they? The type of allegations that are meant to incite violence The nature of their observation of elections is suspect and should never be tolerated.

They display impaired trust. They are concerned about violence, which has not been proven. We cannot rely on an uninformed organisation. Allegations are imprecise, insincere, and outrageous; they do not mention who or where. These are the weak allegations that are meant to throw dust in the election arena. They are playing with public safety by making unsubstantiated allegations that are meant to incite violence. This is irresponsible and shameful.

They must realise that Zimbabwe has a police commissioner General. Have they approached him, citing each incident? We know they are not intending to because they want to play to the gallery. They are not concerned about elections. They want to justify their existence.

They cannot survive without elections, which is why they say whatever to justify your existence.Judges are being attacked left, right, and centre by the opposition, but they are quiet about it. Is it the practise in an open democratic space that judges are appointed but we close one eye and concentrate on other issues?

We have not encountered the alleged violence issues save for isolated incidents of isolated misunderstandings between individuals that are not even reported to the police. Our police officers, who are rated as one of the best in Africa, if not the whole world, are known for their professionalism.

The United Nations will bear testimony to this, as they have worked hand in glove with them on various international peacekeeping missions. Some have ended up being given permanent positions there. They have always investigated every report with professionalism. We challenge those with evidence to come forward. We hope this is not just a game of soiling others.

They should give us a chance to decide our own destiny without interference. Let observers be observers and not behave like political parties. This is what they never do in the Western world.

ISSUE OF ATTENDING RALLIES.

Rallies are regulated by the police. Zanu PF is an actor; the president is an actor. For the sake of law and order, any actor or party has to apply to the police for authorization. The legal position is that they will approach the courts if they are refused. Sometimes the police get it wrong because they are balancing two important issues. They are balancing a rally with the safety of the public.

Do we demonise the whole system because there are one or two instances where rallies have been barred? There is always a regulator, and the regulator can get it right or wrong. In England, there is a great debate about stop and search. Where is the balance? Do the police always get it right? No. Do they always get it wrong? In any country, a police officer, by virtue of his training, errs on the side of public safety. The most infuriating aspect of this report is that they accuse the supervisory election board, ZEC, of not being independent. There is again no evidence against these outrageous allegations. From time to time, one party gets the other side of fairness.

To cap the foolishness of this group, they say that “We are concerned that there are no women at the ballot box.” Is this a serious organisation? The UK is said to be one of the oldest democracies. Since Magna Carter, it has only had three women as prime ministers, and only one finished her term. The other two were chased like dogs. Only one Thatcher gets into the ballot box. The other two got in by default, and the last one was chased after 69 days.In Australia, they made Ber pregnant, and they gave her a hard time till she resigned.

In Zimbabwe, for 44 years, we have had a woman vice president. We have had Khupe at the ballot box. We have had forty percent women as MPs. This idiot is saying we are concerned that there are no women in the ballot box because if women are not in the ballot box, then elections are not fair.

This issue of women is mentioned because the funders have talked about women and get funding for mentioning women. They don’t love Zimbabwean women. They are saying it to please their funders.

This report is not directed at Zimbabweans. It is directed to their funders. Who do you think you are? The institute itself has an American outlook in Liberia, an American colony.

What’s happening in Liberia at present, with all the American influence, is that it’s still like the rest of poor Africa. This institute is just generic rhetoric without substance.

We have to remind this institute that MDC and CCC were part of the government, and they never moved motions to repeal the said laws. ZANU PF and the CCC are campaigning freely IN Zimbabwe. Zanu PF has its women’s quarter adequately covered, and that has nothing to do with CCC; the opposite is true.

When these institutions talk of the government persecuting people, they are equally including CCC/Zanu and independent candidates.
Whoever drafted the pathetic statement has no clue about the Zimbabwean situation. She is a daydreamer who, by now, has been paid for just the rubbish statement on Zimbabwe.

These analysts must distinguish between mere politics and facts. As Zimbabwe, we must stand our ground. Observers must not blur the lines of how they should operate. They must not be actors but observers.

Giving such an untrue statement amounts to undermining the sovereignty of Zimbabwe. We have our electoral laws, which are respected by us. As Zimbabweans, we detest people who want to prescribe their views on democracy, which we fought for. We cannot accept observers who support a political party and tilt results in their favour.

Zimbabweans must know that the funders of this group are the people who advocate regime change. These observers are the mouthpieces of the funders whom they seek to please.

It is deeply depressing and totally flabbergasting for this organisation to say that there are restrictions on campaigning.

Our police have a duty to dictate when the rallies should start and when they should end. We should not be told by an outsider how to leave. ZEC must be allowed to run the elections without external interference. They must go and observe American elections where Trump is being persecuted.

It should be noted that there is no template for how elections are done. This so-called Ellen Johnson Centre must be reminded that we owe it to ourselves.

Zim Political Violence Violate AU Frameworks: Ellen Johnson Sirleaf

Statement on Political
Violence in Zimbabwe

We are deeply concerned by the reports of political violence and other human rights violations in Zimbabwe in the lead up to the country’s general elections on 23rd August 2023.

These violations are against
the African Union (AU) and Zimbabwean normative frameworks for electoral integrity.

We, therefore, join Zimbabweans and all Africans in demanding that electoral processes across our continent are peaceful, transparent, inclusive, and fair.

The African Charter on Democracy, Elections, and Governance (ACDEG) requires that every African government must protect basic human rights, including freedom of expression, peaceful assembly, and association. To this end, we urge the government of Zimbabwe and all political leaders to uphold the sanctity of the AU Shared Values, the 2013 Zimbabwean Constitution, and the electoral process. In this regard, the government should reconsider and review repressive laws and other measures that stifle the diverse voices of its people.

Fair electoral processes depend on citizens freely attending campaign gatherings and freely attending campaign gatherings and rallies without repercussions and fear for their well-being. Equally, an impartial electoral body is the backbone of fair elections, and concerns regarding the impartiality and independence of the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission are
deeply troubling and must be addressed. Due diligence, good governance, and transparency should be rigorously upheld.
Women play an invaluable role in fostering peace and ensuring fair democratic processes, but the upcoming elections also demonstrate a concerning lack of women’s representation on the ballot. We call on the government and all political leaders to ensure that women’s voices are heard during the electoral process.

ZEC Speaks On Postal Votes Rigging

By- The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has responded to postal vote rigging allegations.

ZEC confirmed that police officers had started voting before the 23 August 2023 elections.

A report by NewsDay on Wednesday quoted ZEC deputy chairperson Rodney Simukai Kiwa as saying they had only allowed police officers deployed outside their constituencies to participate in the postal ballot system. Said Kiwa:

Yes, they have been voting. We started sending out the postal ballots on Sunday and Monday.

CCC spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere on Tuesday tweeted that police officers were voting in the absence of agents and independent observers.

However, Kiwa said postal voting was not subject to monitoring. He said:

There is no way postal votes can be monitored. Postal votes are not subject to monitoring.

So the opposition or whoever might want to monitor, it’s not possible. How can one tell whether there are postal votes? The law is very clear on that.

How can you deploy observers on postal votes, because the postal ballots are dispatched in various places, so operationally, and physically, it’s not possible.

ZEC recently gazetted Statutory Instrument 140, which amended section 75(1)(d) of the Electoral Act to allow the chief elections officer to receive postal votes not later than three days before the voting day instead of 14 days.

Zimbabwe holds three elections (local authority, parliamentary and presidential) on 23 August 2023.

Zanu PF Thugs Deface Chamisa Billboards

By-Suspected Zanu PF hooligans have defaced two billboards promoting CCC presidential candidate Nelson Chamisa in Bulawayo.

The vandalism happened either on Monday night or in the wee hours of Tuesday morning.

CITE reported that one of the vandalised billboards was on 15th Avenue, opposite the Zimbabwe International Exhibition Centre, while the other was in Queens Park East Suburb.

CCC official Swithern Chirowodza told CITE that the use of fire by the suspects should have attracted the attention of security services but that was not the case. He said:

The use of fires to destroy property would under normal circumstances have attracted the attention of police and the army but it has not.

We have been watching the situation since morning and there has been no reaction from the security sector. That on its own tells us a story.

The arson from our point of view, that is judging from the debris left on the crime scene, is a notch above ordinary civilian capability.

He said the opposition believes the destruction of their billboards was being done by people who have the backing of state security.

Recently, a senior police officer in Midlands province was berated by Deputy Minister of Climate, Tourism and Hospitality Industry Barbara Rwodzi after a ZANU PF activist was arrested for allegedly destroying CCC posters.

Java, DJ Towers On Crossroads

By-THe relationship between the self-proclaimed prophet and Zanu PF sympathiser Passion Java and music producer and social media influencer DJ Towers has soared following the alleged robbery of the former by the latter.

H-Metro reports that Towers has publicly apologised to the controversial preacher for stealing money from him.

The apology came after Java took to his social media platforms to claim that DJ Towers was involved in a robbery a few weeks ago.

The publication reported that Java alleged that DJ Towers, whose real name is Tawanda Marimbe, tipped the robbers, resulting in the theft in which he lost valuable items.
In a video circulating on social media platforms, DJ Towers can be seen begging for forgiveness from Java.

What Is Sexual Exploitation?

Tackling all forms of sexual misconduct

Sexual misconduct – exploitation, sexual abuse, sexual harassment (SEAH), sexual violence – by our personnel violates the rights and well-being of the people we serve and the people with whom we serve. Such behaviours are directly in opposition to WHO’s values and our abiding responsibility to do no harm.

Sexual exploitation and abuse (SEA) of the populations we serve, and sexual harassment (SH) of our own workforce require similar prevention and response approaches because they stem from the same power differentials, inequities, drivers, and risks. Using the umbrella term, sexual misconduct, clarifies that these acts pertain to the WHO workforce, are prohibited, and therefore lead to disciplinary action.

WHO has zero tolerance for any form of sexual misconduct, for inaction and for retaliation against those who raise complaints or bear witness. Our work prioritizes the rights and needs of victims and survivors.

In 2021, WHO launched an intense period of prevention and response actions following the harrowing accounts of victims and survivors of SEA during the 10th Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo encapsulated in the Management Response Plan that concluded in December 2023. To build on and institutionalize this progress, our future work is framed by the three-year strategy for preventing and responding to sexual misconduct.

Be Holy, President Chamisa Tells Holy Ten

Ensuring Accessibility: The Urgent Need for Disability-Friendly Court Facilities in Zimbabwe

Article written by: Adv. Kennedy Masiye (LLM-USA, Bachelor of Laws (UZ), Human Rights Lawyer ’14, Mandela Washington Fellow 15’)

In 2016, I had the honor of representing a client in the High Court of Zimbabwe. Although we achieved victory in the case, my client’s access to justice was severely hindered by the lack of appropriate facilities, preventing him from easily reaching the court or the Judge’s chambers. Each time we needed to visit the chambers, I found myself carrying him up and down the many flights of stairs. Unfortunately, as we fast forward to 2023, it becomes disheartening to realize that litigants and lawyers attending court at the High Court of Zimbabwe are still grappling with the same problem.

Kennedy Masiye

Regrettably, the Judicial Service Commission has failed to take any measures to address this longstanding issue. Today August 16, 2023, witnessing lawyer Obey Shava, a dedicated professional, being physically carried by his colleagues up the stairs while attempting to fulfill his duties within the court deeply saddened me.

It is precisely due to this distressing event that I am compelled to write this article. The dire need for accessible infrastructure within our judicial system has become painfully apparent. It is unacceptable that individuals, whether they are clients seeking justice or legal professionals dutifully serving their clients, are subjected to such physical hardships in their pursuit of legal remedies.

It is my hope that this article serves as a wake-up call, prompting the relevant authorities to recognize the urgency of the situation and take prompt action. Access to justice is a fundamental right that should be available to all, regardless of physical limitations. By addressing the inadequate infrastructure and ensuring the safety of all litigants, we can create a more inclusive and just judicial system for the benefit of all Zimbabweans.

Introduction

Equal access to justice is a fundamental pillar of any democratic society. In line with international law obligations, it is crucial for the Zimbabwe High Court, along with other courts, to ensure that their facilities cater to the needs of disabled individuals. By providing accessible infrastructure that accommodates the unique requirements of disabled people, particularly those on wheelchairs, Zimbabwe can promote inclusivity, uphold human rights, and foster a more equitable legal system.

Addressing Physical Barriers

One of the most pressing challenges faced by disabled individuals in accessing the justice system is the lack of appropriate physical infrastructure. Regrettably, many court buildings in Zimbabwe, and indeed in several countries in Africa, still lack wheelchair ramps, elevators, and other vital accessibility features. Consequently, individuals with mobility impairments are forced to rely on the assistance of others or even be physically carried up and down staircases, a demeaning and undignified experience.

Promoting Inclusivity and Dignity

By ensuring that court facilities are disability-friendly, Zimbabwe can actively work towards fostering an inclusive society where every citizen, regardless of their physical abilities, can exercise their right to access justice independently. Installing ramps, elevators, and designated parking spaces close to court entrances, as well as providing accessible restrooms and seating areas, can significantly enhance the overall experience of disabled individuals within the legal system.

Moreover, creating an environment that accommodates disabled individuals fosters a sense of dignity and empowerment. It sends a powerful message that all citizens are equal before the law and that their needs and rights are respected. By removing physical barriers, the Zimbabwe High Court and other courts can demonstrate their commitment to upholding the principles of equality and justice for all.

International Law Obligations

Zimbabwe, as a signatory to various international conventions and treaties, has an obligation to ensure accessibility and equal rights for disabled individuals. The United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD), which Zimbabwe ratified in 2013, explicitly recognizes the rights of disabled individuals to access justice on an equal basis with others. The convention emphasizes the importance of accessibility, reasonable accommodation, and the removal of barriers that hinder full participation in society.

Furthermore, the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities obliges state parties to take appropriate measures to ensure that persons with disabilities have access to justice on an equal basis with others. This includes providing physical access to court facilities and ensuring that reasonable accommodations are made to facilitate effective participation in legal proceedings.

Conclusion

The Zimbabwe High Court, as a pillar of the country’s justice system, must prioritize making its facilities inclusive and accessible to all citizens. By investing in disability-friendly infrastructure, Zimbabwe can demonstrate its commitment to upholding human rights, equality, and the principles of international law. It is essential to embrace the notion that by removing physical barriers, we can create a legal system that empowers disabled individuals, promotes inclusivity, and ensures equal access to justice for all members of society.

The lack of appropriate facilities not only hampers the accessibility of justice but also undermines the fundamental principles of fairness and equality within our legal system. It is imperative that immediate action be taken to rectify this issue. Adequate infrastructure, such as ramps or elevators, should be implemented to ensure that individuals with mobility challenges can enter the court and access the necessary facilities without undue difficulty.

Diaspora must return and vote for change” Blame CCC for dragging us into flawed elections out of greed, not diaspora.

By Wilbert Mukori- “I get annoyed sometimes when l discovered that a person who is in Diaspora is supporting Zanu PF and they have got an offices in other countries. We must defeat Zanu PF politically like HH did in Zambia. We don’t use violence. Our dignity will be to come back, don’t pretend to be what you are not. Let us go back home and vote for a change.” Is a comment that has been well received in my whatsApp group.

I get annoyed when trash, devoid of any intellectual merit, is dished out and received with the reverence befitting that of a holy sacrament!

If the elections were free and fair I am convinced that Mnangagwa would lose these elections to a donkey if that was the only alternative even if not even one Zimbabwean in the diaspora returned home. The question then is: why are we having these flawed elections, so flawed there is not even something as basic as a verified voters’ roll, hundreds of thousands of voters will be frogmarched to vote for Zanu PF, etc., etc.?

Answer: because we have failed to implement the democratic reforms even when we had the golden opportunity to do so during the 2008 to 2013 GNU. Morgan Tsvangirai and his MDC friends sold out. Mugabe bribed them with the trappings of high office and the rest is history.

Ever since the GNU debacle MDC/CCC have participated in rigged elections for the same reasons why they failed to implement even one reform during the GNU – greed and breath-taking incompetence. They have known all along that by participating they are giving legitimacy to the vote rigging Zanu PF, as David Coltart readily admitted.

“The (2013) electoral process was so flawed, so illegal, that the only logical step was to withdraw, which would compel SADC to hold Zanu PF to account. But such was the distrust between the MDC-T and MDC-N that neither could withdraw for fear that the other would remain in the elections, winning seats and giving the process credibility,” confessed David Coltart in his Book, The Struggle Continues 50 years of Tyranny in Zimbabwe.

Chamisa and company have insisted in participating in these flawed elections because they are after the few gravy train seats and/or the POLAD freebies Zanu PF has offered as bait. And to hide their blatant betrayal in failing to implement reforms and to hide their greed, the opposition have been pedalling the lie Zimbabwe does not need to implement the democratic reforms because they (CCC) have devised strategies of winning in rigged elections (wire).

CCC’s flagship wire strategy was “Mass voter registration, mass voting and protect the vote!” By May last year, it was clear the first two moves were dead in the water. ZEC announced that only 1/4 of million had registered to vote as of 30 May 2022. This was 4% of CCC’s own 6 million target.

There is evidence CCC does not have the funds to train and deploy election agents at all the over 12 000 polling stations on 23 August. In the 2018 elections the party failed to field agents at 544 polling stations according to Chamisa (Mwonzora said “about 2 000); the number is set to be even higher this year.

So the party has been wittering about “protecting the vote” and now it turns out it cannot even do the bear minimum! Zanu PF has many, many ways to rig these elections but will no doubt use these unmanned polling station to fine tune the winning margin of the party candidates. This is a bonus!

“Diaspora come back home and vote for change!” There is a sense of panic in that and rightly so too. The euphoria of “CCC winning big” is dissipating as it is becoming increasing clear now of the wire strategies have worked. By noon on the 24 August the delusionary mist will have completely disappeared and the reality of having given Zanu PF legitimacy and thus extending the dictatorship and failed state for yet another five more years will set in.

The truth is as long as Zanu PF continues to enjoy the carte blanche powers to rig elections, the regime will still continue to win even if all Zimbabweans in the diaspora returned home. Many Zimbabweans who have never left the country will be denied the vote on 23 August because their name is not the polling station the expected or worse. Zanu PF will, no doubt, find many ingenious ways of denying those in the diaspora the vote too.

Indeed, Zanu PF decided it will not grant Zimbabweans in the diaspora the right to vote in foreign lands contrary to Present Mnangagwa’s 2018 promise to do so. The party knows most of the people in the diaspora are political and/or economic refugees and they blame Zanu PF for their plight. They would not be voting for Zanu PF. Intimidating these people will not be easy and rigging the vote will be tough. And so it was no surprise the party has stubbornly refused to allow diaspora vote.

The number one priority is to restore the freedoms and rights, including the right to free and fair elections, of all citizen, inside and outside the country. If the elections were free, fair and credible the citizens inside the country alone would delivery democratic change then it makes sense to focus on ending the curse of rigged elections.

Of course, this notion of winning in rigged elections is an oxymoron. Why give up the right to free elections for such a foolish notion. It is trading gold for fool’s gold.

Zanu PF is set to rig and win these 2023 elections and those who have advocated participating in these flawed elections are already fishing for scapegoats to blame. And “People in the diaspora MUST come back home and vote for change!” is the opening shot across the bows!

The blame for dragging the nation into these futile elections lies with those who failed to implement the reforms to end the rigging and have participated in these flawed elections out of greed; not those in the diaspora or anyone else!

Nick Mangwana Urges Citizens To Go Home After Voting

By A Correspondent- Information ministry permanent secretary Nick Mangwana has warned voters against milling around polling stations after voting under the guise of defending the vote.

In a tweet, Mangwana said there is nothing called defending the voter, but those who would have voted should go home and wait for the announcement of results.

Said Mangwana:

“There is nothing called, “DEFENDING A VOTE”. That’s a threat to peace. After voting people should just go home and wait for the announcement of the results. Imagine a polling station with 2000 voters from different parties all milling around after voting now waiting to “defend their vote”! That’s a potentially explosive scenario. For the sake of peace, after voting just go home, to work to your business or whatever else that gives you a livelihood.”

Kasukuwere Sounds “Poll” Alarm

In a dramatic statement, exiled former Cabinet minister Saviour Kasukuwere has sounded the alarm, calling on election observers and the international community to closely monitor the surge in political violence during this year’s elections.

Kasukuwere, who was recently barred from running as an independent presidential candidate, expressed concern that the escalating violence could seriously undermine the credibility of the electoral process.

Kasukuwere’s plea comes amidst chilling incidents of brutality, with the latest tragedy involving the stoning to death of Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) supporter Tinashe Chitsunge by suspected Zanu PF supporters in Glen View, Harare. The leader of CCC, Nelson Chamisa, also fell victim to an attack on his convoy on the same day. These sh0cking acts of violence have raised serious questions about the safety and fairness of the democratic process.

Outrage Over “Secret” Postal Voting

By A Correspondent- Tempers flared yesterday after it emerged that the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) had “secretly” allowed police officers to vote ahead of the August 23 polls in the absence of political parties’ polling agents.

Zec deputy chairperson Rodney Simukai Kiwa confirmed the development yesterday, saying they had only allowed police officers deployed outside their constituencies to participate in the postal ballot system, adding “there is no way postal voting can be monitored”.

“Yes they have been voting,” Kiwa said.

“We started sending out the postal ballots on Sunday and Monday.”

Citizens Coalition for Change spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere said political parties should have been allowed to deploy election agents to monitor the process.

ALERT: We’ve received reports from all provinces that members of @PoliceZimbabwe are today casting their postal votes. Our agents and independent observers have not been allowed to monitor the process. Where is the transparency @ZECzim? #ZECMustExplain,” Mahere tweeted.

But Kiwa said postal voting was not subject to monitoring.

“There is no way postal votes can be monitored,” Kiwa said.

“Postal votes are not subject to monitoring. So the opposition or whoever who might want to monitor, it’s not possible. How can one tell whether there are postal votes? The law is very clear on that. How can you deploy observers on postal votes, because the postal ballots are dispatched in various places, so operationally, physically, it’s not possible.”

Zec recently gazetted Statutory Instrument 140, which amended section 75(1)(d) of the Electoral Act to allow the chief elections officer to receive postal votes not later than three days of the voting day instead of 14 days.

Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has promoted 1 500 police officers countrywide in what has been viewed as a strategy to boost their morale and buy their loyalty ahead of the August 23 elections.

NewsDay is, however, reliably informed that there is disgruntlement among junior officers over the questionable promotions amid reports of nepotism and politicisation of the process since the criteria used was unclear.

In the past, police officers wrote examinations to be promoted.

Alternatively, for those who were not intellectually gifted, the force would invoke provisions of the Police Act to promote members of the force on account of good behaviour and hard work.

According to a memo written by Police Commissioner-General Godwin Matanga to all stations, and seen by NewsDay, all promoted officers will be transferred from their stations after the election.

“The Commissioner-General of Police is pleased to announce the promotion of the following members with effect from 11/08/23 as shown in order of merit,” Matanga said.

“Conferment of badges of rank shall be conducted by respective officers commanding provinces (for all provinces/CID/SU) and CSO admin in respect of PGHQ [Police General Headquarters] on Friday August 18, 2023 at 1000 hours.

“All promoted members shall not put on the new badges of rank until after conferment. Staff officer ordnance shall start issuing out new badges of rank on Wednesday August 16.

“Promoted members are to remain in their current stations until after the 2023 harmonised elections.”

Police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the promotions.

He said: “It is not correct that the promotions are targeted at boosting the morale of police officers due to the pending general elections set for August 23, 2023. The Zimbabwe Republic Police has a promotional policy which guides the organisation on promotions as vacancies arise within the system due to natural manpower wastage such as retirement, death, resignation and those dismissed for various disciplinary reasons and criminal acts.”

He said Matanga had not received complaints from officers-in-charge about “the interference by some senior officers in order to promote their relatives or those close to the said senior officers”.

“In fact, the promotion exercise was conducted through boards of officers at station, district, provincial and national levels. These boards then submitted their recommendations to the Commissioner-General of Police,” Nyathi said.

“This was an open system which started at the station level based on merit. Above all, it is not possible for the ZRP to promote all police officers at one go. The Commissioner-General of Police is even happy to receive names of the said police officers who were promoted at the instigation or interference of some senior officers.”

However, NewsDay heard that there is disgruntlement over the criteria used to select officers deserving promotion amid claims of nepotism.

“The criteria used to come up with the promotions were not clear,” once police source confided in NewsDay yesterday.

“There are complaints of nepotism, where some officers known to be related to high ranking officials were promoted. Police officers used to write examinations for them to be promoted, so promotion was on merit.

“But now the officer-in-charge recommends the officer for promotion which has now been marred with various irregularities. This has caused serious divisions within the force as many junior cops are against this process.”

Robbers Attack Couple

By A Correspondent- In a distressing incident, a woman and her partner fell victim to a robbery and physical assault while searching for transportation in Kambuzuma.

Ndaizivei Sadowera (38) and her l0ver Denzel Dhlola were targeted by three unidentified assailants who forcibly took their belongings.

According to Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, the incident occurred near a Catholic Church in Kambuzuma Section 5 at approximately 4:45 am on Monday. The couple was approached by the suspects, who had pulled over in a vehicle. One of the assailants confronted the victims and demanded their valuables, while the other two individuals exited the vehicle.

The attackers proceeded to assault Ndaizivei and Denzel, repeatedly striking them with open hands. In fear for their safety, Ndaizivei was compelled to surrender her Huawei cellphone, a satchel containing various clothing items, a plastic dish, and a selection of groceries.

Inspector Chakanza confirmed the incident and urged anyone with information to come forward, as the police are actively investigating the robbery.

This unfortunate event serves as a reminder of the importance of personal safety and vigilance when seeking transportation, particularly during the early hours. Authorities are committed to bringing the perpetrators to justice and ensuring the safety and security of the community.

Speaking out against these disturbing incidents, Kasukuwere condemned the attacks as an assault not only on the victims but also on the very foundations of democracy. He emphasized the need for observers and international bodies to play an active role in monitoring the voting process and ensuring that violence is curbed. Kasukuwere’s call for action reflects the growing concerns among Zimbabweans, as an Afrobarometer survey revealed that 70% of the population fears being caught up in violence surrounding the elections.

Demanding justice for victims and denouncing intimidation and harassment, Kasukuwere made it clear that no Zimbabwean should have to pay the price for exercising their democratic rights. He stressed that a nation governed by the principles of freedom, fairness, and equality should have no place for such violence.

While President Emmerson Mnangagwa has pledged to maintain peace before and after the polls, human rights watchdogs have pointed fingers at his ruling party, Zanu PF, as the main perpetrator of violence. However, the party vehemently denies these accusations.

As Zimbabwe braces for a highly contentious election, the world watches closely to see if the international community can help ensure a fair and peaceful democratic process. The fate of Zimbabwe’s credibility hangs in the balance as the nation grapples with the urgent need to address the alarming rise in political violence.

40 CCC Activists Arrested Over Machipisa Roadshow

A total of 40 Citizen Coalition for Change (CCC) activists were arrested in Machipisa, Harare, for holding an unsanctioned car rally.

The activists were arrested on Tuesday afternoon, just a week before the crucial Zimbabwean general election.

CCC spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere confirmed the arrest, saying the group is being represented by attorney Kudzai Kadzere.

“I can confirm that 40 CCC members have been arrested following our roadshow in Machipisa earlier today,” she said.

“They are currently detained at Glenview 1 police station.”

Police spokesperson, Paul Nyathi said the 40 breached peace regulations.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms the arrest of 40 Citizen Coalition for Change (CCC) activists in Machipisa this afternoon for contravening provisions of the Maintenance of Order and Peace Act, Chapter 11:23 (MOPA),” he said.

“Circumstances are that the CCC convenor, Lawrence Materege notified the local Regulating Authority for Harare South on their rally set for Churu Farm on 15th August 2023 from 1000 hours to 1600 hours.

“The convenor and Grandmore Hakata then decided to divert from the notified rally at Churu Farm and went on a car rally procession from Glen View area into High Glen Road, Main Street, Machipisa Road into Highfield suburb and stopped at the OK Machipisa traffic lights while openly blocking traffic,” said Nyathi in a statement.

Nyathi said the group started to chant party slogans and sing.

“A concerned citizen made an official report to the police.

“The Police reacted and arrested 40 CCC activists who were led by Grandmore Hakata.

“Hakata actually scuffled with the police officers as they effected arrests.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police has also recovered the three trucks and radio speakers which were being used by the CCC supporters in the unsanctioned car rally.”

The arrest comes just a week before the crucial plebiscite.

CCC which is the ruling party’s main opponent has been encountering several setbacks during the campaign season, which has seen its members getting arrested, injured, or killed in the build-up to election day.

Posting on her social media platforms, CCC spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere complained that their members got arrested for holding an event but the ruling party, Zanu-PF has been conducting the same without any disturbances.

“It is clear that the police are targeting CCC activists and using the law to stifle our campaign,” she said.

“We will not be intimidated and will continue to campaign for change in Zimbabwe.”

The arrest of the 40 CCC activists is the latest in a series of incidents that have raised concerns about the fairness of the upcoming election.

Zimbabwe’s human rights commission has called for the release of all political prisoners and for the police to stop using excessive force against opposition supporters.

The election is scheduled to be held on August 23.

ZEC Favours Mnangagwa On 2023 Presidential Ballot Paper

By A Correspondent| The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has once again appeared to favor the Zanu PF candidate Emmerson Mnangagwa who occupies the top position on the second column of the presidential ballot paper despite being number 6 in terms of alphabetical order.

A leaked ballot paper shows that ZEC placed Mnangagwa who is number 6 out 11 in terms of alphabetical order had his name placed on top of the second column which has six names while the first column has five.

This was the case again in 2018 when ZEC placed Mnangagwa on top of the second column despite being number 15 of 23 candidates who were contesting for the presidential elections.

Popular Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) candidate Nelson Chamisa is on position two while National Constitutional Assembly (NCA) leader sits on position 5 at the bottom of the first column.

Meanwhile, Presidential spokesperson George Charamba posting using his Tinoedza Zvimwe Twitter account denied the authenticity of the circulating ballot.

“There is a phoney ballot paper showing wishful postal voting. It is fake, deep fake, evidenced by the picture used on the Zanu PF Presidential candidate which isn’t the one going to be used in this election,” said Charamba

Mapositori Charm Dorcas Moyo

By Tafadzwa Muranganwa| Rising gospel diva Dorcas Moyo saluted St John Apostolic Church of the Whole World leader Bishop Dr Sydney Mabhiza for inviting her to a musical gala during ‘Mutumwa St John 2023 Declaration’ in Mhondoro on Saturday.

Addressing over 35 000 congregants who thronged the Mutumwa St John City before her scintillating act, the Bvudzi Rangu Ramera-hitmaker could not hide her appreciation of the gesture by the church’s founder and leader Bishop Dr Sydney Mabhiza inviting her to serenade the apostolic members.

“Can you join me in thanking Bishop Mabhiza for according me such a rare opportunity to perform our music ‘pasowe’ (holy ground).

” This is the first of its kind and for that I am grateful, “said the Mutare-based gospel artiste.

She later put up a memorable act with her catalogue of singalong songs including her duet with Alick Macheso ‘Mhanza Haisekwi’. It was during the performance of this duet that Gringoldinho(Taurai Boora) , son to the late actor Gringo spiced up the act with some pulsating dances that left the crowd clamouring for more.

Earlier on, Pastor Joseph Tivafire also proved his mettle in the gospel music industry as he gave a good account of himself. Another stand out performance  though brief was from husky-voiced King Solomon who came up immaculately dressed for the occasion. Mambo Dhuterere who was bestowed with an ambassadorial role in St John Apostolic Church of the Whole World  didn’t disappoint with his band putting up a stellar show. There were also performances from Vabati VaJehovha, Followers of Christ and Rudo Muchawaya.

The concert will remain etched in the memories of many as it  featured some upcoming artistes from the church including Booster, Craig Zonke Turbo and G-Smart.

Speaking to journalists after the ‘declaration’, the church’s Information Technology and Publicity (ITP) director Ngoni  Ray Mariga said the musical extravaganza was also mearnt  to celebrate talent in  the church.

“As a church, we value and appreciate talent so the musical show enabled some of our artistes to showcase their talents,”Mariga told journalists.

Mliswa’s Sister ‘Caught Pants Down’ Over Candidates Withdrawal

Mashonaland West Provincial Affairs Minister, Mary Mliswa-Chikoka has been fingered in a fraud storm amid accusations she forged the signatures of three aspiring councillors prompting the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) to withdraw their candidatures, last week.

The affected local authority candidates are namely, Kudzai Gasho of Ward 8 Karoi Town Council, Lameck Zhanda of Ward 4 of Zvimba Rural District Council (RDC), and Luke Rutter of Ward 31 of Zvimba RDC.

According to Gasho, the minister, who doubles as Zanu-PF provincial chairman, had appended fake signatures on withdrawal papers and filed them with ZEC without their knowledge in a bid to “fix” them “for the bad blood that exists for various reasons.”

In a notice Monday, ZEC rescinded the earlier move to withdraw the trio, saying the candidates remain in contention, thereby nullifying earlier notification of withdrawals.

“It is hereby notified that the persons specified below, nominated for election with the elections to be held on 23 August 2023, who, in a notice published in the daily newspapers of 10 August 2023, had been erroneously indicated as having withdrawn.

“The persons remain candidates for their respective wards and their names will be included on the ballot paper for their respective wards,” ZEC wrote.

Rutter and Zhanda told an online newspaper they were shocked to read their names in a ZEC notice of purported withdrawal when, in fact, they had not backtracked.

“I was shocked to see my name on the list of candidates who were said to have withdrawn when I had never done so. That came when I was just having campaigns in my ward, I am happy that after we challenged ZEC, they managed to sort out the issue quickly,” Zhanda was quoted saying.

Both Rutter and Zhanda are allegedly loyalists of Local Government deputy minister, Marian Chombo, a declared adversary of Mliswa-Chikoka.

Speaking to NewZimbabwe.com following an appearance at the Electoral Court over the Heroes and Defence Forces holidays, Gasho said his lawyer and ZEC representatives had resolved the matter amicably after noting the electoral body had corrected the misrepresentation through a newspaper advert.

Gasho said attempts to lodge a police report at Harare Central against Mliswa-Chikoka hit a brick wall after officers advised to take the matter further “after elections.”

“I wanted a fraud or forgery docket opened against Minister Mary Mliswa-Chikoka because what she did was not befitting someone her stature, she has to be exposed. She stooped so low in a bid to settle personal scores,” said Gasho.

On August 11, Mliswa-Chikoka, through Zanu-PF Provincial Youth League chairman, Tapiwa Masenda, issued a prohibition order on Gasho barring him from calling, addressing, or officiating at any meeting of the party.

He was also interdicted from visiting any Zanu-PF office.

Gasho is accused of “bringing the name of the party into disrepute by engaging in singular campaigns against party directives and abusing your position as Hurungwe district coordinating committee (DCC) Youth Affairs (chairman) to commit an offense.”

Efforts to get a comment from Mliswa-Chikoka were fruitless by the time of publishing.

Double Candidates Headache for Zanu Pf

By A Correspondent- In a bizarre turn of events, three Zanu PF “double” candidates vying for local government seats in Karoi and Zvimba have left the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) scratching their heads.

After their withdrawal from the upcoming polls was announced last week, the candidates were reinstated this week, causing confusion and raising eyebrows.

Zec’s chief elections officer, Utloile Silaigwana, initially issued a notice stating that Gasho Kudzai, Zhanda Lameck, and Rutter Luke had withdrawn their candidature for the August 23 elections. These candidates had filed their nomination papers under Zanu PF, despite not receiving party endorsement. In response, Zanu PF had ordered them to withdraw or face sanctions, leading to a mix of compliance and defiance among the candidates.

However, in a sudden reversal, Silaigwana issued a follow-up notice this week, stating that the “double” candidates would remain on the ballot paper. This unexpected decision has left voters in a state of bewilderment, as they try to make sense of the ever-changing landscape of the upcoming elections.

Opposition party Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) claims that there are at least 20 cases of double candidacy, further fuelling the controversy. The CCC alleges that these “double” candidates were sponsored by Zanu PF, a claim vehemently denied by the ruling party. Zanu PF insists that the candidates were chosen by CCC supporters during the party’s candidate selection process.

With conflicting narratives and a lack of clarity, voters are left wondering about the integrity and fairness of the electoral process. The sudden reappearance of the withdrawn candidates has added a new layer of uncertainty to an already contentious election.

As the election date draws nearer, the spotlight intensifies on Zec and its decision-making processes. Voters, already grappling with a multitude of choices, now face the added challenge of navigating through the confusion surrounding these “double” candidates.

The drama surrounding the Zanu PF double trouble continues to unfold, leaving voters on edge and the political landscape in a state of uncertainty.

Police Bomb CCC Rally With Tear Gas

Police Attribute Masvingo Rally Violence to Rowdy CCC Supporters, Tear Smoke Deployed

Masvingo-The police have placed blame on “rowdy” Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) supporters for the violent clashes that unfolded at a campaign rally featuring opposition leader Nelson Chamisa in Masvingo on Sunday evening. The incident occurred at Mamutse Ground in Masvingo, where Chamisa addressed a restive crowd after the approved rally hours.

In an official statement issued today, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, the national police spokesperson, detailed the events that led to the clashes. According to Nyathi, the CCC rally had been sanctioned by the regulatory authority to take place within specific hours, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, as indicated in the notification submitted by the party’s convenor, Martin Mureri.

However, the rally started later than the specified time, with Nelson Chamisa addressing the crowd at 4:45 PM. As the leader addressed his supporters, tension escalated when police officers attempted to intervene due to the rally’s delayed commencement and the potential for security concerns. Chamisa’s security personnel and supporters obstructed the police officers from accessing the podium, leading to a confrontation.

The situation further escalated as the crowd reportedly became unruly, throwing stones at the police officers and threatening to set fire to police vehicles. A police officer was injured in the stone attack, prompting law enforcement agents to employ tear smoke to disperse the violent crowd.

Assistant Commissioner Nyathi explained that the police engaged CCC’s national organizing secretary, Amos Chibaya, and his team. The CCC leadership apologized for the non-compliance with the rally notification times and agreed to disband the crowd due to safety and security concerns surrounding night rallies. However, the situation turned chaotic, prompting the use of tear smoke.

Nyathi emphasized that the police conducted themselves professionally, causing no injuries or damage to property during the dispersal of the crowd. He reiterated the police’s stance that night rallies pose security risks and urged all political party leaders to adhere to proper organization of public gatherings to ensure the safety and security of the public.

The incident highlights the challenges associated with organizing and managing political rallies, as well as the potential for clashes between law enforcement and passionate supporters in the midst of heightened political tensions. The police continue to emphasize the importance of adhering to rally notification timelines to maintain law and order during campaign events.- Agrnecoed

Suspected Fraudster Charged

Suspected Fraudster Accused of Swindling Widow’s Organization, Faces Charges of Theft of Trust Property

Harare- Tafadzwa Chirisa, a man at the center of a suspected fraud scheme, appeared before Harare magistrate Dennis Mangosi today, facing charges of theft of trust property. The alleged victim is Alice Mutambara, founder and chairperson of the Zimbabwe Widows for Economic Development organization.

The court proceedings revealed that on June 26, Alice Mutambara and her organization’s secretary, Grace Mhaka, crossed paths with Tafadzwa Chirisa in the capital. Mutambara had US$4000 in cash, earmarked for the organization’s nationwide mobilization efforts.

Chirisa reportedly presented himself as the individual responsible for safeguarding funds for affiliations, claiming the funds were stored in an office belonging to Dr. Gomo. He assured Mutambara that he would release the money whenever it was required. Trusting his words, Mutambara handed over the US$4000 to Chirisa for safekeeping.

However, things took a turn when, on June 28, Mutambara approached Chirisa to retrieve the funds for the purpose of printing T-shirts. Shockingly, Chirisa failed to produce the money, explaining that he had already spent it.

Suspecting foul play, Alice Mutambara conducted her own investigation and contacted Dr. Gomo regarding Chirisa’s claims about the funds being stored in his office. Dr. Gomo denied any knowledge of Chirisa’s involvement or access to his office, exposing Chirisa’s deception.

Feeling deceived and cheated, Mutambara took the matter into her own hands and promptly filed a police report to initiate a formal investigation into the alleged theft of trust property by Tafadzwa Chirisa.

As legal proceedings unfold, this case sheds light on the vulnerability of organizations and individuals who trust individuals with their financial resources, only to be let down by alleged acts of fraud. The court will now determine the course of justice in this matter as both sides present their arguments and evidence.

Zimbabwe Republic Police Arrest 40 CCC Activists Amidst Opposition Outcry

By Farai D Hove | In a controversial move that has drawn widespread criticism, the Zimbabwe Republic Police have arrested 40 members of the Citizen Coalition for Change (CCC) party, sparking outrage from opposition parties and activists. The arrests occurred in Machipisa yesterday afternoon on the grounds of contravening provisions of the Maintenance of Order and Peace Act, Chapter 11:23 (MOPA).

The CCC, an opposition party known for its vocal stance against the ruling Zanu PF party, had planned a rally at Churu Farm on August 15, 2023. However, the situation escalated when CCC convenor Lawrence Materege and Gladmore Hakata diverted from the planned rally route, leading a car procession through various streets. This unsanctioned move led to a confrontation with law enforcement, resulting in the arrests of Hakata and 40 other CCC activists.

The timing of the arrests has raised eyebrows, as they occurred amidst a backdrop of violence and loss of life among CCC party members. Critics argue that the police’s resources would be better spent investigating the deaths rather than pursuing charges against opposition members.

Patricia Chinyoka, CCC’s UK spokesperson, minced no words in expressing her frustration: “You are pathetic, we have lost fellow citizens at the hands of Zanu PF and you failed to arrest the perpetrators but instead continue to choose to turn a blind eye to the serious crimes against humanity committed by your partners in crime…”

In a statement, the Zimbabwe Republic Police defended their actions, asserting that the activists had deviated from their initially approved rally plans and engaged in disruptive behavior that violated the provisions of MOPA. A concerned citizen reported the situation to the police, prompting the arrests. During the confrontation, Gladmore Hakata reportedly scuffled with officers as they attempted to carry out the arrests.

The police further noted that they had seized three trucks and radio speakers that were being used by CCC supporters during the unsanctioned car rally. The authorities urged political party leaders and supporters to adhere to the regulations outlined in MOPA, emphasizing the importance of maintaining law and order during public gatherings.

The CCC’s arrest and subsequent charges have reignited debates surrounding the state of political freedom and rights in Zimbabwe. Observers and activists await further developments as tensions continue to rise between opposition parties and law enforcement agencies.

ZEC Prepares for Elections with 150,000 Officers | CAN THEY BE TRUSTED?

In preparation for the upcoming harmonized elections on August 23, the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has announced that approximately 150,000 electoral officers will be deployed to the country’s 12,370 identified polling stations. Citizens will cast their votes for the next President, members of the House of Assembly, and councillors, aligning with the country’s Constitution.

Commissioner Rodney Kiwa, the ZEC deputy chairperson, confirmed that this comprehensive figure includes presiding, polling, and constituency election officers. The deployment of these officers aims to ensure the smooth conduct of the elections.

In a move to facilitate the election process, the Treasury has approved forex allowances for the electoral officers. These officers, primarily civil servants, are contracted by the ZEC and are paid through the Salary Services Bureau (SSB). This encompasses roles such as constituency election officers, presiding officers, and polling officers.

ZEC’s recently released polling stations schedule, managed by Chief Elections Officer Mr. Utloile Silaigwana, details the distribution of polling stations across various provinces. Notably, Bulawayo metropolitan province will host 434 polling stations across 29 wards and 12 constituencies. Meanwhile, Matabeleland North will feature 918 polling stations, catering to 197 wards and 13 National Assembly seats. Matabeleland South, which underwent boundary changes in 2022, now accommodates 709 polling stations across its 168 wards.

According to Section 51 of the Electoral Act (Chapter 2:13), constituency election officers are tasked with establishing polling stations conveniently located to serve the voters of their respective constituencies. This is to ensure accessibility to all citizens, including those with physical disabilities.

Bulawayo’s polling station distribution is highlighted by Cowdray Park constituency, encompassing three wards, which boasts the highest count at 43 polling stations. On the other end, Emakhandeni-Luveve constituency has the lowest count with 30 polling stations for its two wards.

Matabeleland North and Matabeleland South provinces also display varying numbers of polling stations across different constituencies. Tsholotsho North, Binga North, Binga South, Bubi, Hwange Central, Hwange East, Hwange West, Lupane East, Lupane West, Nkayi North, and Nkayi South, among others, each have their distinct allocation of polling stations.

With these preparations in motion, Zimbabwe anticipates a smooth and inclusive voting process in the upcoming harmonized elections.- state media

SADC To Discuss Zim Despite Herald Denials

By Dorrothy Moyo | With Zimbabwe heading to harmonised elections in a week’s time, Sadc has already dispatched a team of observers led by former Zambian Vice President Nevers Sekwila Mumba.

Although Zimbabwe is not on the agenda, the country has been the talk of the town with observers commenting over ongoing violence and manipulation of the voters roll.

Justice Katiyo Attacked For Making A Ruling, Is This Fair? | MAVAZA

By Dr MASIMBA Mavaza | OPINION | The CCC and its pathetic publicist Hopless Chin’ono are at it again. This time misleading the public and the election observers over the case where The High Court has rejected the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change’s (CCC) application to compel the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) to release the final voters’ roll, stating that the matter is not urgent.
Through their lawyers the CCC sought the High court to issue an order as in their draft order which is
“The Respondents to be directed to immediately publish a final List of Polling Stations which includes providing applicants with an up-to-date copy of the voters roll which is compliant with the peremptory provisions of section 21 of the Electoral Act in that it should:
Show all polling stations that will be used in the 2023 harmonised elections and have the same number of polling stations as the number in the final List of Polling Stations published by ZEC; Use the same names for polling stations as the names of the polling stations that will be used during the 2023 harmonised election and show the full and complete name of each polling station;Use the same ward and constituency boundaries as those that will be used during the 2023 harmonised elections;
Be fully searchable and analysable and in a format such as CSV, Excel or Access files.
Polling station codes;
The voter population of each polling station.

It is important to understand
the use of urgent chamber applications in the High Court. Put briefly, an urgent application is an application in which the applicant does not follow the normal process because they cannot afford to wait to ask a court for help. The client immediately approaches the court with an application that does not meet the prescripts of the Uniform Rules of Court and is unique.
This is a word that is sometimes used in ignorance as to what it means in the context of legal proceedings. Clients often want their matters to be dealt with by the courts urgently.

So urgent applications are made where an applicant considers the relief sought to be urgent. In such cases the Court first decides whether the matter is urgent before considering the merits, also called the substantive issues.
So the high court judge His honour judge Never Katiyo was seized with the task of deciding whether the issues raised makes the case an urgent application. The case may look urgent but the issue prayed for in the application even if it looks urgent it’s aim is hidden. The judge is bound by law to look at the consequences of the order he is about to give.

Firstly is the case urgent?
High Court rules of 2021, Rule 60 of the High Court Rules, 2021 (“the Rules”) provide for chamber applications. Rule 60(1) thereof states that: “A chamber application shall be made by means of an entry in the chamber book and shall be accompanied by Form No. 25 duly completed and, except as is provided in subrule (2), shall be supported by one or more affidavits setting out the facts upon which the applicant relies. Provided that, where a chamber application is to be served on an interested party, it shall be in Form No.23 with appropriate modifications”

Rule 60(6) states that:
“Where a chamber application is accompanied by a certificate from a legal practitioner in sub rule 4(b) to the effect that the matter is urgent, giving reasons for its urgency, the registrar shall immediately submit it to the judge, handling urgent applications who shall consider the papers forthwith.”

According to rule 60(18) if the Judge considers the application not urgent he or she will strike it off the roll of urgent applications. Please note that at this stage the matter has not been heard on the merits. The Court has simply said the matter is not urgent. The according to rule 60(19) an urgent application that is struck off shall be referred to the roll of ordinary court applications and it shall not be necessary for the applicant to file a fresh application.

An applicant, his or her legal practitioner, has to convince the court that a matter is urgent. The court considers ceA AS rtain factors explained hereunder.
Requirement for a certificate of urgency from a legal practitioner
The starting point is that there has to be a certificate from another lawyer to the effect that the matter is urgent, per rule 60(6).According to the said presentation, under the old rules, in the case Chidawu & Ors v Sha & Ors 2013, the Supreme Court held as follows:

“It follows that a certificate of urgency is the sine qua non for the placement of an urgent chamber application before a judge. In turn the judge is required to consider the papers forthwith and has the discretion to hear the matter if he forms the opinion that the matter is urgent. In making a decision as to the urgency of the chamber application the judge is guided by the statements in the certificate by the legal practitioner as to its urgency in certifying the matter as urgent.”

The learned judge Justice Chatikobo in 1998 in the case ofKuvarega v Registrar General & Anor, 1998, he said
“What constitutes urgency is not only the imminent arrival of the day of reckoning; a matter is urgent, if at the time the need act to arises, the matter cannot wait. Urgency which stems from a deliberate or careless abstention from action until the deadline draws near is not the type of urgency contemplated by the rules. It necessarily follows that the certificate of urgency or the supporting affidavit must always contain an explanation of the non-timeous action if there has been any delay”.
In this case which CCC is trying to incite violence by telling the public wrong facts Justice Katiyo applied his wisdom and knowledge of the law. After reading and understanding the documents lodged before him he came to a conclusion that the matter was not urgent and what is being prayed for is not urgent.
It has to be taken into account bearing in mind the dicta by Justice Chatikobo that has any application made before. Did the applicants wait for the deadline?in the case before Justice Katiyo it was important to note that all parties must be ready for elections by now. They have been preparing for these elections for the past five years. Procrastination is a thief of time. Now the case has become a constitutional issue. Courts are not there to conduct elections. Surelly why were they holding meetings to agree on non violence issues with ZEC without bringing the so called urgent issue up. Why bringing the issue at 11:59 to elections. The actions of the CCC are the ones described by Justice Chatikobo as last minute trials which are meant to disturb a constitutional process “the election “The effect of such an application is to stop the whole election which is not Constitutional. CCC is trying to use the courts to postpone tne elections. Where were they and are they the only party involved in these elections. Which ammendent are they talking about in this case and have they just seen it today. Is it a fact that there is an ammended voters roll. Is it what they are refferring to. The CCC has always played with people’s emotions. If they gave ZEC 48 hours to respond why are they seeking a different relief.

It is very clear that CCC is not ready for these elections so they just want to whip emotions into the public. CCC’s Strategy of ambuguity is backfiring in this and it’s a shame that the sought to blame the impartial and legal fountain Justice Katiyo. They have thelseves to blame.
CCC has realised that they will lose come 23 August. So they are using the courts to stop the elections. In Shona kurova Imbwa vaka viga mupinyi.”
We are left with six days to elections and this frivolous vague and misleading application which is embarrassing is pushed infront of the courts hoping that the election will be stopped by the courts.

Now in a malicious and unprecedented way they have published the judge’s phone number so that the judge be intimidated by the callers. Now they are using judge intimidation as a means to get what they want. It is witch craft to publish the judges number and ask people to call the judge.

They have resorted to the court of public opinion and judge intimidation. In the mean time they have requested the judge to address them on the issue of urgency and yet they are already makng noise.
What CCC must tell their noise makers is that when you receive an urgent chamber matter you can read and endorse not urgent if it’s not urgent. But if the party feels has to address and convince the judge they are free to do so. This is what they should have done first before insulting the judicial system. Public does not know this because the CCC is not generous with the truth.
It is important to borrow some legal understanding from Marah JP as she was stated her understanding of CHATIKOBO J as follows: “I understand CHATIKOBO J in the above remarks to be saying that a matter is urgent if when the cause of action arises giving rise to the need to act the harm suffered or threatened must be redressed or arrested there and then for in waiting for the wheels of justice to grind at their ordinary pace, the aggrieved party would have irretrievably lost the right or legal interest that it seeks to protect and any approaches to Court thereafter on that cause of action will be academic and of no direct benefit to the applicant”. So coming to court at the eleventh hour was academic.

It is true that urgency is a matter of both time and harm. In the case of Gwarada v Johnson & Ors, 2009 in which the Court stated that: Urgency arises when an event occurs which requires contemporaneous resolution, the absence of which would cause extreme prejudice to the applicants.
The existence of circumstances which may, in their very nature, be prejudicial to the applicant is not the only factor that a Court has to take into account, time being of the essence in the sense that the applicant must exhibit urgency in the manner in which he has reacted to the event or the threat, whatever it may be. For the past five years CCC only reacted now.

In May 2023 the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has said everyone who registered to vote will not be disenfranchised as the electoral body will rectify any anomalies that will be detected during the ongoing voters roll inspection exercise.
ZEC opened the voters roll for inspection in May and the process was extended.
ZEC was very clear that more than 11 000 centres have been opened countrywide to enable voters who registered on or before April 28 to check their registration details. So the complaint that the polling stations are now twelve thousand is not an issue. ZEC had said it clearly that it was over 11000 so 12 thousand is over than 11thousand.
Apart from the physical assessment of the voters roll, Econet and NetOne mobile phone subscribers were able to check their registration status using the *265# facility. At that time CCC was covered in the state of ambiguity. Now they want to spread the fruits of ambiguity to the courts. The fruits of ambiguity is confusion.
In a contemptuous and criminal way anither criminal responded to Justice Katiyo’s ruling, expressing concerns in an open letter to election observers. He questioned how the matter of accessing the voters’ roll could be deemed non-urgent, as it is a fundamental aspect of the forthcoming election, potentially impacting its credibility and fairness.
This criminal is quick to sale his warped unpatriotic mind to the observers just for him to seek relevance. Observers should look at the law.
The CCC requests that the respondents be and are directed to immediately publish a final List of Polling Stations. They make such an application without knowing wether ZEC has such a list.
When you consider how many applications are struck off the roll in our courts for lack of urgency every week, then it may be that not all practitioners grasp the essence of when an application will pass muster as urgent. The lawyers in the CCC case have faile to grasp set the correct principles for determining when a matter is urgent to better enable them to advise their clients correctly and sharpen up their drafting skills when it comes to preparing papers for an urgent application.
Put briefly, an urgent application is an application in which the applicant does not follow the normal process because they cannot afford to wait to ask a court for help. The client immediately approaches the court with an application that does not meet the prescripts of the Uniform Rules of Court and is unique. At the hearing, they must first convince the court that their application is urgent, so that the court will grant them condonation for not following the Rules and permit them to enroll their application on the Urgent Roll for immediate hearing, despite its defects.
In urgent applications the court or a judge may dispense with the forms and service provided for in these rules and may dispose of such matter at such time and place and in such manner and in accordance with such procedure (which shall as far as practicable be in terms of these rules) as it deems fit.
(b) In every affidavit or petition filed in support of any application , the applicant must set forth explicitly the circumstances which is averred render the matter urgent and the reasons why the applicant claims that applicant could not be afforded substantial redress at a hearing in due course.
A person against whom an order was granted in such person’s absence in an urgent application may by notice set down the matter for reconsideration of the order.”

Granted, it is natural to see harm as the equivalent of urgency, since without harm or some threat there would never be a need to bring an urgent application. However, the notions of harm and a lack of substantial redress in due course should be kept separate, and the test for urgency should not be obscured by a confusion between the two.

More importantly, the Applicant must state the reasons why he claims that he cannot be afforded substantial redress at a hearing in due course. The question of whether a matter is sufficiently urgent to be enrolled and heard as an urgent application is underpinned by the issue of absence of substantial redress in an application in due course. The rules allow the court to come to the assistance of a litigant because if the latter were to wait for the normal course laid down by the rules it will not obtain substantial redress.
It is important to note that the rules require absence of substantial redress. This is not equivalent to the irreparable harm that is required before the granting of an interim relief. It is something less.

He may still obtain redress in an application in due course but it may not be substantial. Whether an applicant will not be able obtain substantial redress in an application in due course will be determined by the facts of each case.”
The import of this is that the test for urgency begins and ends with whether the applicant can obtain substantial redress in due course. It means that a matter will be urgent if the applicant can demonstrate, with facts, that he requires immediate assistance from the court, and that if his application is not heard earlier than it would be in due course, any order that he might later be granted will by then no longer be capable of providing him with the legal protection he requires.

As such, harm does not found urgency. Rather, harm is a mere precondition to urgency. Where no harm has, is, or will be suffered, no application may be brought, since there would be no reason for a court to hear the matter. However, where harm is present, an application to address the harm will not necessarily be urgent. It will only be urgent if the applicant cannot obtain redress for that harm in due course. Thus: harm is an antecedent for urgency, but urgency is not a consequence of harm.

It should be as well important to understand that ZEC chief elections officer Mr Utloile Silaigwana has always said the electoral management body is transparent in its operations hence its decision to take the voters roll to the doorstep of communities.

“Why does ZEC take the voters roll to the people? It is because we want the voters themselves who are the owners of the voters roll to audit the roll by checking their names and their details. They should check whether they are placed in the correct polling station, ward and constituency. In the event there are anomalies detected by the voters, ZEC will ensure they are corrected,” he said
Mr Silaigwana said voters that identify anomalies will be made to complete forms as part of the process to effect the corrections.”

So the attack on Justice Never Katiyo by the CCC is uncalled for.

With all of this in mind, it should be clear that when a client approaches a practitioner about an urgent application, the practitioner should determine the facts of the matter and whether the client can obtain real relief to protect his rights in due course. If not, then urgent proceedings should be recommended. The founding affidavit for the urgent application should contain a separate chapter, supported by explicit facts, devoted to why the applicant cannot obtain substantial redress in due course and, consequently, why he must be immediately assisted by the court. This CCC failed to understand and resorted to attacking Justice Never Katiyo. [email protected]

ED Mnangagwa Deserves Your Vote – Mavaza

EMMERSON DAMBUDZO MNANGAGWA A LISTENING AND ACTING PRESIDENT. HE DESERVES YOUR VOTE.

By Dr Masimba Mavaza | At the start of his presidency Emerson Mnangagwa said he would spend a lot of time listening as he hit the ground running. That’s what he has done over the last five years, and that’s what he has done over the last five weeks as he hit the provinces campaigning.
Not listening to vested interests. Not listening to millionaires trying to buy influence. Not listening to highly selective focus groups no not those, but
listening to ordinary people of Zimbabwe. Listening to their concerns about education ,
Listening to their fears about the health system, listening to their disillusionment with politicians who break their promises and betray their trust. The ZANU PF primary elections bears witness to that. There weee no sacred cows people were allowed to select those they want and not recycle the chuff. MNANGAGWA has learnt from the people that they want politicians to stand up and address the issues that matter to them. The issues of the future of the country tje issues of bread and butter. Mnangagwa knows that people want commitments that are clear and costed. They want leadership they can trust.
Zimbabwe is left with seven years to achieve a middle income economy which is by 2030. This is not only a slogan but the reality which is coming true. There are now less than ten days to 23 August 2023.
And there is just one week left to determine the direction we take in those seven years. One week to turn this into a campaign that sets Zimbabwe on the right course for the years ahead.
One week to turn this into a campaign that focuses on the long term.
One week to turn this into a campaign about the issues that matter to people.`
During the campaign we have witnessed a barrage of lies and distortions from the opposition the like of which we have never seen before.we have seen detractors and spies packaged as election observers flooding our nation.
As we speak EU has booked the entire 4th Floor, of holiday inn Harare turned it into offices & Elections Information Hub. Also, EU has hired all the Toyota Fortuners from Car Rentals.
Furthermore, several hotels country wide are fully booked with guests from Western Countries & Western Institutions. This tells us clearly that Zimbabwe is very important & valuable to the West than what an ordinary Zimbabwean think. With all the countries flocking to our country it should raise a flag which tells us that we are at war. These elections we must approach them as our fight for continuation of independence.
We must not be fooled the Westerners have more Interests in Zimbabwe than ordinary Zimbabweans themselves. That’s why the opposition is paid to bring them back. CHAMISA has said it several times and it is true that if we vote wrongly our hard earned independence will be snatched off our feet. This must never be allowed to happen not on our watch. There is more into these upcoming Elections than what meets the eye of an ordinary Zimbabwean citizen. Zimbabwe is under threat we must open our eyes and see this. We must vote for ED to preserve our freedom.
We don’t need to plaster our message on billboards. With the ZANU PF you know what you are going to get, because you can already see it in action. You don’t have to judge us by what we say. You can judge us by what we do. And what we’re already doing look at how many dams we constructed in five years how many roads we constructed in five years look at Beitbridge look at our airports just look around you all this is the best advertisement there is.
That’s why we are so proud to ZANU PF. Highlighting the outstanding success achieved by the PARTY under ED.
And my message to you today is simple. “You’ve got a winning team. Keep it!”
Keep the team for development and for our future. Keep the team for rengangement ED has been opening the doors which were closed. As a country under ED we have adopted a marxim “A friend to all and an Enemy to none”. Working day and night for the country our First Lady became the first high profile Zimbabwean to be invited to the UK the city of Cambridge.
Keep the team for efficiency – who have stripped away bureaucracy in the provinces saving millions of dollars while still bringing government closer to people with devolved area committees under devolution.
And keep the team who are backing local industry and securing local jobs – building strong private-public partnerships and winning funding for projects like the mining, farming and many projects. There is a clear choice on 23rd August 2023.
Liberal Democrats or Labour.
The new dispensation’s approach is working with local people, listening, building partnerships and developing the country.
Or the CCC approach secretive, centralist, “we know best” – yet so often characterised by financial chaos, incompetence and sleaze corruption and being handled and used by foreigners.
CCC orMDC a once great vessel, now disabled by some strange and unnerving disaster. Eerily silent. Drifting aimlessly on with no hand on the tiller.
No-one on deck. No charts to steer by. The crew have mutinied. The Captain and his officers have abandoned the bridge – and handed it over to one of the midshipman. And all that’s left is a motley, rag bag collection; a crew so anonymous you’ll see stowaways with higher profiles but no direction No Constitution and no policy no structure full of nothing.
And so CCC blow with the wind – drifting, from one day to the next.
One day they’re implacably opposed to the Single Currency. The next they say maybe.
One day they say constitutional Rule will strengthen democracy The next they’re tuning a party without any. One day they dismiss the idea of devolution out of hand. The next they’ve decided to campaign for it. The best way of describing CCC’s policies is “dog’s breakfast”.
After twenty five years in opposition CCC got very cosy with all that second fiddle and they’re now more frightened than ever of losing their grip on it as they are about to be placed safely in a political dust bin. And when the opposition Parties get frightened, they get negative, and they get nasty. Instead of engaging in honest elections they will put up thousands of posters, distorting the truth and crying violence.
Well, we will not be cowed. The best antidote to negative CCC campaigning is to fight positively on our programme for Zimbabwe.
To make the campaign in this last week a campaign the Zimbabwean people can be proud of.
And our Party has a duty to make that happen. To offer people a good choice.
The investment to give our children the best possible education and future.
Clear, costed commitments to protect and improve our health system. Stability and long-term investment for business success.
Cleaner air and water, and a greener environment is what we will get with ED and ZANU PF.
The guarantee of freedom and total independence can only be made by those who brought independence in the first place.
Over the last five years, ZANU PF have proved that they can be trusted. Over the last five weeks, CCC have failed to prove that they are worthy of our trust. Voting ED will be a victory for your children and grandchildren.
A victory for your schools and hospitals.
A victory for you. There is only one way to make your vote count. And that is to vote for what you want. To vote for what you believe. And if you believe, like I do, that in the next Parliament, we’ve got to protect our independence our freedom our Health Service, we’ve got to look after our environment, and that above all else, we’ve got to launch the biggest, most committed drive to improve education that we have ever seen, then the vote that counts the vote that makes the difference, the invested ‘vote’, is the ED and ZANU PF vote.
If you want better schools, then the only way you will get them is by voting ED. If you want doctors and nurses in our hospitals, then the only way you will get them is by voting ED.
You see, when the fog clears, there’s really very little to choose between CCC and MDC.
The CCC Party has decided to fight this election on the awe-inspiring message: Ngaapimde hake Mukomana” To elect CCC at this election would be a mass triumph of hope over experience. HOPE is not enough we need what we have experienced.
If you want a change of direction, not just a change of government – then don’t waste your vote just vote ED he has already changed the direction of the country. Zimbabwe is now headed for glory and your vote is very important.
If you want new priorities in Zimbabwe not just politics as usual – then don’t waste your vote just vote ED.
Don’t be conned into voting from lies by the CCC
Vote for the things you believe in and things you have seen.
Make your vote the vote which brought ED back to power for his second term.To continue his battle for progress and reform.
Now, as then, this country is faced with a stark choice.
Now, as then, it is time for a choice.
A choice for the future of our nation.
A choice for a new politics.
A choice for new opportunities.

Now, as we prepare for the election we need a new crusade- to build a country fit for our children and grandchildren.
This is our way forward.
Building opportunities – for work, for study, for fulfilment.
Investing in quality public services.
Providing security, safety and confidence – for the old and the sick and the vulnerable. Allowing Zimbabweans to take control over their own lives and their own communities.
And, most of all, educational excellence.
This is not a promise of what we will do. It’s the record of what we have done – and a statement of what we want to continue doing.
you can already see the evidence around you.
ZANUPF is already are making the difference.
And with your support, we can go on making the difference. ZIMBABWE is the only country we can call ours in the whole world. Like my great cde and a good man Brg Gen Zabanyana will say. ZANU IWE NENI TINE BASA.
VOTE ED VOTE ZANU PF

Fadzai Mahere’s Political Fast Rise: A Fable of Power’s Unraveling

– The Strangler Fig Tree of Fadzai Mahere’s Political Ascent: A Fable of Power’s Unraveling.

By Dr Brilliant Pongo | In the intricate dance of Zimbabwean politics, a figure emerges who mirrors the fierce tenacity of a strangler fig tree. Fadzai Mahere, a name now synonymous with the Citizens Coalition for Change movement (CCC), has carved her path with the swiftness and determination of this remarkable botanical phenomenon. Yet, beneath the surface of her ascent lies a story reminiscent of the strangler fig’s calculated embrace – a narrative of complexity and intrigue. This exposé plunges into the labyrinthine journey of Fadzai Mahere, weaving together her rise to prominence within the opposition party.

Imagine the strangler fig’s humble seed, carried by chance to the high reaches of a host tree’s branches. Similarly, Mahere’s trajectory within the CCC has taken her to the upper echelons of power with astonishing speed. Skirting traditional hierarchies, she has stirred whispers of favoritism and strategic maneuvering, much like the fig’s roots that descend, forming an intricate network around the host. But just as those roots grow more profound, eventually constricting the host, so too has Mahere woven herself into the very fabric of the CCC. Her adaptability to the political landscape is a testament to the fig’s relentless growth, as it engulfs its host and carves its own path.

Yet, the tale doesn’t end with ascension; power has its reverberations. The strangler fig’s grip becomes synonymous with upheaval, a metaphor mirrored in Mahere’s impact. The likes of Luke Tamborinyoka, Jacob Mafume and Tendai Biti, once towering figures in the CCC’s narrative, now find themselves in the shadow of this ascending star. Biti and Job Sikala, seasoned players in the opposition, share the stage with this newcomer who defies expectations.

Brilliant Pongo

However, let us cast a discerning eye on the allegations that simmer beneath the surface. Whispers of utilizing sexual prowess to gain political footholds shroud Mahere’s rise, yet these remain in the realm of conjecture. Amidst these uncertainties, it is essential to grapple with the true enigma of her ascent. How does one who hasn’t secured victories at the local or parliamentary level command such influence? What facets mark Mahere as the “Iron Lady” of the CCC?

Beyond the intrigue, a multidimensional portrait emerges. Charisma and eloquence intertwine seamlessly with the ability to resonate with a new generation of supporters, forming the bedrock of Mahere’s rise. Her strategic positioning within the CCC’s intricate web of power could very well be the blueprint behind her rapid ascent.

Perhaps she was placated to the top of opposition leadership in an attempt to protect the party from ZANU PF violence, so the terrorists do not attack their own daughter. And maybe the strategy will work. Seeing the ongoing election turmoils, is it working?

Aside her father Stephen Mahere being the face of the ZANU PF terror network with which he personally signed forms to torture and expel opposition candidates between 2005 and 2013, actions that got him singled by the ZANU PF leadership for being too notorious for ZANU PF itself, leading to ZANU PF Presidency firing him from an Education Ministry job when David Coltart was Minister, the daughter herself is a well known divisive figure in the legal corridors where she is viewed as an implosion risk to any institution she joins, in a sorry tale whose only comparator is that of the great Ndabaningi Sithole when he came out of prison in 1974 refusing to bow to the Rhodesian terror, and would within 2 years be torpedoed by the more eloquent and non deserving Robert Mugabe, the dark skinned English Polish accent talking standing quietly aside the late Maurice Nyagumbo facing journalists. Mahere has a lot of proving to do that she is not an agent of destruction.

A rewind of the late Morgan Tsvangirai’s 2008 election speech before beating ZANU PF hands down leading to the CIO leadership exiting offices to go to Rusape, strongly suggests that the suffering people have never at any time needed a pretty face or a clean Borrowdale accent to amplify its clarity. The chematama-faced Morgan and team was more than enough to destroy ZANU PF, a reality they proved before the whole world that the opposition does not need people whose only CV is that they have climbed the world’s highest mountain, which apparently is in Harare, Mount EverArrest (whose peaks are thick layers of psychotic proclamations when they’ve only arrested and re-arrested themselves for exposing their own corruption).

In essence, Fadzai Mahere’s journey within the CCC unfolds like the strangler fig’s relentless growth. Her rise, fueled by ambition and dexterity, has ignited debates and redefined the very essence of power dynamics. As Zimbabwe’s political landscape continues to metamorphose, discerning minds must sift through the layers of speculation to unearth the essence of Mahere’s narrative. Just as the strangler fig evolves from an initial seed to an indomitable presence, Mahere’s role will crystallize over time, leaving an indelible imprint on the canvas of Zimbabwe’s political evolution.

Africa Growth Renaissance Hub Of Empowerment

Article compiled by Africa Growth Renaissance

RECLAIMING THE AFRICAN DREAM. HOW TO ACHIEVE A $ 7 TRILLION GROSS DOMESTIC PRODUCT IN LESS THAN A DECADE.
As of 2022, the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Africa was estimated to be roughly around $ 3.1 trillion. Although there is a great possibility according to economic forecasts that, Africa will be the largest growing economy in the next 2 years, there is still excess capacity in many African countries. This should pose as an opportunity for unlocking value to steer economic growth and development.

POLICY PROPOSALS FOR UNLOCKING VALUE
1) Increase growth and dynamism in the agriculture sector:
Agriculture is the back borne of many African countries and they are endowed with fertile soil and climatic conditions for Agriculture. Moreover, agriculture produce is used in agro-processing factories, this will enable the continent to achieve food security and thwarting importation of food from abroad, hence reigning in budget deficits fuelled by enormous food importation bill by some African countries. Crops with great commercial viability include beans, wheat, maize, sorghum, millet, sugarcane, rice, sunflower, tobbacco, tea, coffee, and cocoa.

2) Continuously promote tourism.
The African continent has the potential to spur its growth through the tourism sector. According to the World Tourism Report, Africa’s tourism earnings are estimated to be $ 90 billion as of 2022. The continent has a great potential to achieve a $ 1 trillion dollar tourism sector in less than a decade. This can be achieved through improving the continent’s image and international relations with the rest of the world, as well as promoting intra-African tourism.

3) Formalise the informal, to boost growth and job creation.
The informal sector in Africa is the greatest contributor of economic activity in the continent but its revenue cannot be easily captured. There is need for supporting these small businesses so that they can become part of the mainstream economy also contributing job and taxation to the government. The government can assist these firms through training, access to finance and market as well as building infrastructure for them when necessary.

4) Improve policy transparency, accountability, to build trust by households to accumulate savings.
African government macroeconomic policies should be consistent, reliable, and prudent. This helps to boost confidence by many households hence resulting in accumulation of savings which can be channelled towards investments which can generate employment and economic growth. The monetary policy of the economy should pursue inflation targeting, favourable interest rates and prudent money supply. With regards to fiscal policy, government should spend but not compromising its fiscus space and should also maintain low tax rates which promotes consumption and investments. Reining in inflation and ensure macroeconomic stability boost confidence, investments, and hot money inflows into the country.

5) Boost sense of belonging in households through accountability and transparency in the provision of public goods.
One of the key roles of the government is to provide public goods, which include social overhead capital like roads, hospitals, schools, bridges, and dams. Efficient provision of these services can give people a sense of belonging hence boosting their confidence in the distributional role of the government, which lead to them contributing to taxation wilfully.

6) Promote international trade and strategic partnership for development.
Other than, engaging in intra-African trade only, African countries should also spearhead international trade with the rest of the world. As a result of this the continent can have a larger market to sell its wares hence securing jobs for its people and improving standards of living of the majority of people.

7) Decentralisation and Setting of SMART goals.
Decentralisation of power and authority can act as a catalyst for advancing economic development in an economy. The vision and goals to be achieved should be articulated from the top cascading to administrative units of governance which can be provinces, districts down to the smallest geographical units. The goals should be Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Timebound (SMART).

8) Value addition and beneficiation, so as to create jobs.
The paradox of Africa is that it is highly resource bound and can even rank on top of the other continents, but its economic performance is disproportionate with its natural endowments. This is on the notions that, the continent suffers from NEGATIVE TERMS OF TRADE, as it exports cheap ram materials abroad. As a result, this is high time for the continent to add value to its products, hence creating jobs for its people.

Failed Chiwenga Assassination Plot, Junta Pressured To Reverse 2017 Military Coup

By Dorrothy Moyo | In a recent turn of events, revelations have emerged regarding a purported government plan to assassinate Vice President Constantino Chiwenga while he was receiving medical treatment in a South African hospital. These shocking claims, which Emmerson Mnangagwa is yet to comment on, have ignited a fervent debate among analysts and citizens alike about the potential ramifications and implications for Zimbabwe’s political landscape. Analyst Max Lion, a prominent voice in this discourse, asserts that this revelation presents General V.P. Chiwenga with an opportunity to correct the course of the nation, restoring it to a pre-2017 coup state.

Lion contends that the evidence produced during the trial raises questions about the integrity of some of the beneficiaries of the 2017 coup. The coup, which led to the removal of long-time President Robert Mugabe, initially promised a new era for Zimbabwe, but its aftermath was marred by political instability and economic turmoil. The fact that some individuals involved in the coup were allegedly willing to sacrifice the country’s stability for personal gain has left a stain on the coup’s legitimacy.
Chiwenga, a key player in the 2017 coup, holds a unique position to rectify the nation’s path. Lion argues that Chiwenga should acknowledge the errors of the coup and its negative consequences for the country. By publicly recognizing his role in the upheaval and the subsequent turmoil, Chiwenga could begin the process of restoring the nation’s trust and moving toward reconciliation.
Lion goes further to propose that Chiwenga could take a bold step by initiating a comprehensive restoration effort that brings Zimbabwe back to its pre-coup state. This would require a significant political, economic, and social transformation, potentially involving the establishment of a genuine republic with a focus on accountability and the separation of powers. This approach, aligned with the objectives of the liberation war struggle, could pave the way for a new era of ethical leadership and sustainable governance.
While Lion does not detail the specific methods for Chiwenga to achieve this ambitious goal, he acknowledges that the general is uniquely positioned to understand the internal dynamics and obstacles facing Zimbabwe. If Chiwenga orchestrated the 2017 coup, Lion suggests that he possesses the strategic acumen to engineer a reversal of the process, potentially leveraging both political and public sentiment in favor of restoration.
Lion believes that such an endeavor would not only be a patriotic duty but also a monumental opportunity for Chiwenga to cement his legacy in Zimbabwean history. By successfully orchestrating the reversal of the coup’s effects, Chiwenga could emerge as a transformational figure, revered for his contribution to the nation’s resurgence. This restoration could potentially override the negative perceptions and controversies surrounding the 2017 coup, positioning Chiwenga as a revered statesman for generations to come.
Lion’s proposal stems from his deep concern for Zimbabwe’s future. He argues that continuing down the path of instability and discord would be detrimental to the nation’s potential. The current political landscape, marked by unfair advantages in elections and leadership lacking ethical principles, only exacerbates the country’s challenges.
A South African medical doctor on Friday claimed that Vice President Constantino Chiwenga’s former wife Mary Mubaiwa told him that President Emmerson Mnangagwa tried to kill his deputy in 2018.
Willi Leo Sieling made the claims while testifying at the Harare magistrates court on Friday in a case where the former model faces a charge of attempting to murder Chiwenga, her ex-husband.
Sieling said Mubaiwa continued pestering him to inject Chiwenga with a dangerous drug known as pethidine to sedate him.
“On June 29, 2019, l was accosted by the suspect (Mubaiwa) who was unhappy that l had allowed a surgeon to place an intercostal drain without her consent,” Sieling told the court.
“She scolded me and shouted at me.
“Nurses reported to me that the suspect was interfering with and hindering the administration of drugs to the complainant.
“The suspect insisted that l had to start giving the complainant pethidine.
“However, it is a highly addictive narcotic analgesic, which l refused to do.”
Sieling added: “There were continuous calls, messages and persistent demands by the suspect for the discharge of the complainant.
“The suspect started from the beginning and consistently told me that his Excellency the President of Zimbabwe wanted to kill the complainant (Chiwenga) starting with the grenade attack.”
Chiwenga escaped unhurt after an explosion hit a tent at the end of a rally at White City Stadium that was addressed by Mnangagwa on the eve of the July 2018 elections.
Dozens of people including then vice president Kembo Mohadi and Defence minister and Zanu PF chairperson, Oppah Muchinguri, security aides, politicians and supporters suffered varying degrees of injuries from the blast.
Three security aides succumbed to the injuries.
Mnangagwa, who had just left the podium after addressing Zanu PF supporters when the explosion went off blowing off the staircase and leaving some people with broken limbs, escaped unhurt.
According to Sieling, sometime in December 2018, he was called by John Mangwiro, Health deputy minister, to attend to Chiwenga at Fire Ice hotel in Pretoria.
“I discussed extensively with the complainant in the suspect’s presence,” the medical doctor said.
“Just before they left, the suspect gave me US$1 900. l do not know what the money was for.
“I just thought it was a gift from the suspect as l had gone out of my way to assist.”
“On the second trip on June 23, 2019, Mangwiro called me saying the complainant was extremely ill and needed admission into at least the High Care unit at NetCare Pretoria Hospital.
“I made arrangements for the complainant’s admission.”
Sieling said he waited until 9.40pm on the day, but Chiwenga was not brought to the hospital forcing him to go to Sheraton Hotel where he was booked to investigate.
At the hotel, Mubaiwa allegedly introduced him to one Dr Bruce Peck.
“I told everyone that the complainant would be dead if he was not admitted at the hospital,” he told the court.
“Seven days before the complainant was discharged, l was in the complainant’s room and l was extremely puzzled because he was extremely sedated as he had been since he was discharged from the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
“I requested a urine specimen.”
Sieling said there was nothing wrong with the urine specimen.
However, a member of Chiwenga’s security team disclosed to him that the retired general was being administered with Pethidine, he said.
Sieling said he arranged that the specimen be extracted through a cystoscopy, and it was confirmed that Chiwenga was administered with Pethidine, but could not identify the person who administered it.
He said Mnangagwa requested a report on what was happening.
Chief secretary to the President and Cabinet Misheck Sibanda also visited South Africa to check on Chiwenga’s health.
The doctor said he suspected that a member of Chiwenga’s security team may have administered dangerous drugs on Chiwenga.
“I was extremely distressed because l knew that l would not be able to do anything further for the complainant and that he would need further therapy,” he said.
Harare magistrate Feresi Chakanyuka moved the case to August 28 for continuation of trial.
According to prosecutors, Mubaiwa intended to finish off Chiwenga when he lay fighting for his life in a Pretoria hospital.
It is alleged that Mubaiwa forced Chiwenga’s security details to leave his hospital room so she could find space to remove life support devices which were connected to the VP.
Chiwenga was later flown to China where he went through successful treatment.
In conclusion, Max Lion’s analysis presents an intriguing perspective on General V.P. Chiwenga’s potential to redeem himself and restore Zimbabwe’s trajectory. The proposal suggests that Chiwenga could capitalize on the opportunity presented by the revelations of the assassination plan to initiate a comprehensive transformation, repositioning Zimbabwe as a functional and prosperous nation. However, the success of such an endeavor would require careful planning, strategic execution, and the genuine commitment of key stakeholders. Only time will reveal whether Chiwenga will seize this chance to reshape his legacy and his nation’s fate. – Standard/ additional reporting

Chamisa Predicts Holy-Ten’s Down-Fall

By-The leader of the opposition CCC, Nelson Chamisa, has predicted the downfall of hip-hop artist Holy Ten should he continue associating with the ruling party.

Alan Moyo Confident Of Victory After President Chamisa Rally

By A Correspondent
Ward 10 local government candidate Alan Moyo (CCC) is confident of a resounding victory in the 23 August elections.

Speaking after a star rally adressed by CCC President Nelson Chamisa, Moyo said that the residents would vote for development.

“Ward 10 residents have been suffering from lack of leadership that’s why you see there’s no consistent running water in sections of Rhodene, Eastvale and many government departments including Zimuto Police Camp and the 4 Brigade…

We want to work together to speed up the water augmentation process which has been idle for more than a decade to ensure 24/7 tap water for these key areas,”Moyo said.

Council land is largely inaccessible and usually charged in the hard to get USD.

Moyo added:
” I’m going to offer the housing service with a bias towards Ward 10 residents and civil service members. I’m going to ensure that council charges land in the Zimbabwean Dollar and cushion low income residents. What I’m talking about is income sensitive housing and income sensitive billing. We don’t want to put the burden of past mismanagement on the residents and land seekers.”

On rising unemployment, Alan Moyo was optimistic about dealing with this perennial issue in a sustainable way which benefits the residents and the city.
“We have a lot of young people in the ward who are unemployed and they end up bey exploited for cheap labour. This can be easily solved by opening council enterprises which include a brewery to employ the youth through brewing, distribution and retail and to increase council revenue through the sales. We have all the requisit infrastructure and distribution channels, what was lacking is ideas. Quarry reserves are abundant in the ward and I want to partner council with private players to increase employment, empower local businesses and to augment council revenues.”

Ward 10 has perennially suffered from access to health, there is only one mobile unit with a couple of health personnel to service the whole ward. Moyo demonstrated an affinity for health by stating that: “The Ward does not have a clinic presently, and one of my immediate challenges is to construct a state of the art clinic that is compatible for use by women. That is, to include prenatal and postnatal care, borehole water and solar powered to ensure efficient delivery of health services in the ward. Residents walk long distances to the general hospital in Rhodene and resort expensive private clinics which is a barrier to health for our residents.”

Commenting on the violent clashes between armed riot police and CCC members who were attacked with tearsmoke and bashed with baton sticks, Moyo called for peace and tolerance towards the elections.

” It was an unfortunate incident, we know members of the uniformed forces are non partisan. They will vote for change. They are suffering from misgovernance and eroded incomes. Every pay cheque is a nightmare for all of us Zimbabweans. It is the politicians who abuse our police and soldiers and then pay them peanuts, we won’t tolerate that in a new Zimbabwe.”

Alan Moyo is a young social justice activist who campaigned vigorously for affordable education in tertiary institutions and removal of barriers to entry to education. He has also campaigned for pro poor policies and for the commensurate remuneration of government workers given the skyrocketing inflation.

Mangombe was naturally happy with the way his charges fared against a tough opposition.

“Genesis means the beginning. Someone said we have not won this competition since it’s re-introduction. This time we want to work hard and see what we can achieve. We knew it was a derby and at the same time a cup competition. I am happy the boys did well after the second half substitutions,” he told the media after the game.

“Our game plan was to use fast wingers and the plan worked as we managed to run their defence down in the first-half and things were easier for Paga when he came on in the second-half. Their defence had been exhausted. Going into the next round of fixtures we have to make sure we are clinical in front of goal,” added Mangombe.

Ndiraya, beamoned missed opportunities against his former paymasters.

“It was a difficult match but one that was interesting at the same time. When you play big teams like Highlanders, CAPS United and Dynamos, if you don’t take away the chances that you get then you get punished. Like in this game, Dynamos got their chance and they utilised it,” said Ndiraya.-Soccer24 News

Mnangagwa Tried To Kill Chiwenga In Hospital: Analysis

A Path to Redemption: General V.P. Chiwenga’s Opportunity to Restore Zimbabwe’s Future
