Avoid Excessive Sodium Intake

A first-of-its-kind World Health Organization (WHO) Global report on sodium intake reduction shows that the world is off-track to achieve its global target of reducing sodium intake by 30% by 2025.

Sodium, an essential nutrient, increases the risk of heart disease, stroke and premature death when eaten in excess. The main source of sodium is table salt (sodium chloride), but it is also contained in other condiments such as sodium glutamate. The report shows that only 5% of WHO Member States are protected by mandatory and comprehensive sodium reduction policies and 73% of WHO Member States lack full range of implementation of such policies.

Implementing highly cost-effective sodium reduction policies could save an estimated 7 million lives globally by 2030. It is an important component of action to achieve the Sustainable Development Goal target of reducing deaths from noncommunicable diseases. But today, only nine countries (Brazil, Chile, Czech Republic, Lithuania, Malaysia, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, Spain and Uruguay) have a comprehensive package of recommended policies to reduce sodium intake.

“Unhealthy diets are a leading cause of death and disease globally, and excessive sodium intake is one of the main culprits,” said Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General. “This report shows that most countries are yet to adopt any mandatory sodium reduction policies, leaving their people at risk of heart attack, stroke, and other health problems. WHO calls on all countries to implement the ‘Best Buys’ for sodium reduction, and on manufacturers to implement the WHO benchmarks for sodium content in food.”

A comprehensive approach to sodium reduction includes adopting mandatory policies and WHO’s four “best buy” interventions related with sodium which greatly contribute to preventing noncommunicable diseases. These include:

Reformulating foods to contain less salt, and setting targets for the amount of sodium in foods and meals
Establishing public food procurement policies to limit salt or sodium rich foods in public institutions such as hospitals, schools, workplaces and nursing homes
Front-of-package labelling that helps consumers select products lower in sodium
Behaviour change communication and mass media campaigns to reduce salt/sodium consumption
Countries are encouraged to establish sodium content targets for processed foods, in line with the WHO Global Sodium Benchmarks and enforce them though these policies.

Mandatory sodium reduction policies are more effective, as they achieve broader coverage and safeguard against commercial interests, while providing a level playing field for food manufacturers. As part of the report, WHO developed a Sodium country score card for Member States based on the type and number of sodium reduction policies they have in place.

“This important report demonstrates that countries must work urgently to implement ambitious, mandatory, government-led sodium reduction policies to meet the global target of reducing salt consumption by 2025,” said Dr Tom Frieden, President and CEO of Resolve to Save Lives, a not-for-profit organization working with countries to prevent 100 million deaths from cardiovascular disease over 30 years. “There are proven measures that governments can implement and important innovations, such as low sodium salts. The world needs action, and now, or many more people will experience disabling or deadly—but preventable—heart attacks and strokes.”

The global average salt intake is estimated to be 10.8 grams per day, more than double the WHO recommendation of less than 5 grams of salt per day (one teaspoon). Eating too much salt makes it the top risk factor for diet and nutrition-related deaths. More evidence is emerging documenting links between high sodium intake and increased risk of other health conditions such as gastric cancer, obesity, osteoporosis and kidney disease.

WHO calls on Member States to implement sodium intake reduction policies without delay and to mitigate the harmful effects of excessive salt consumption. WHO also calls on food manufacturers to set ambitious sodium reduction targets in their products.

Pros And Cons Of Mining

Steps to starting from zero in the mining sector.

Just like every industry mining has zero beginning where you begin with absolute nothing or with little amounts of less than 100usd .

By nature mining is a very high expenditure business thousands of united States dollars are needed to run a successful mining business sometimes with no returns .

We are going to take you through a short but powerful account of how to begin at zero step by step .

Step 1
Be interested in mining stories read and listen to as many mining stories in detail asking keen and clear questions.

Artisanal miners have a lot of stories to tell each story has a specific detail that is clue to how you can start from zero . By this way you will be informally introducing yourself to it .
Befriend someone in mining.

Deliberately choose a friend who regularly goes to the mine be very close friend. By so doing you receive mining updates and stories for free . You will learn mining terms risks and rewards fast .

3 visit the mines regularly.
Now that you have a friend visit the mines with him regularly to assess the situation and listen to more mining stories from others stay there for a long time sometimes even 12hrs or two days continuously.
4 identify areas of need within your friend’s network.

At this stage visit with a secret book identify needs that would let you in . The easiest is food just buy relish for them for free and start asking direct question how can you be of help .

NB don’t over promise or over commit yourself if you don’t yet understand the risky .

Pause : mining is so risky and ugly the losses are fatal we have lost money huge amounts never to receive it back don’t let the “reward stories ” force you to sell valuable property or use school fees for your kids to invest these “reward stories are structured to lure you .
Lists of free entry points no cent just you .

1 use your own hands join the team with intention of raising money to invest back for those working join night shift before list what you want to do with the money . Below are inputs and values
A box of explosives sets 330usd
A drum of diesel market price
A compressor set 2000usd
Pegging a mine 3000usd.
Never mind the amount using your hands increases the chances of high returns .
2 link with an investor with huge financial muscles and get double share .
3 identify and bring an expert who improve production
Low income entry points in values
1 food and lighting 100usd
50kg mealie
Cooking oil 5litres
Salt
Relish
Torches
Rare cheap entry points
Buying food during milling of ore 400rands or less
Covering a member who felt ill or absent temporarily by some un forseen means .
At this time you have a vision what you want to do this is a list of what you can permanently do
1 be food and relish provider for as many teams as you can .
2 provide transport for life
3 provide explosives and diesel
4 provide compressor or diesel powered windlass
5 build tanks fir cyanide process
6 fund workers for none work related needs . This is risky needs a careful study.

Mbudzi Interchange Project Behind Schedule

By A Correspondent- The Mbudzi Interchange project is running behind schedule as the contractor is still to access the area occupied by property owners who are awaiting compensation from the government.

This was said by the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development, Amos Marawa, during a recent tour of the project by the media.

NewZimbabwe.com quoted Marawa as saying the Government is yet to reach an agreement with only one property owner and this had slowed down progress. He said:

We are behind schedule. The government is committed to paying property holders.

Negotiations came too late and thus delayed the compensation to the property holders.

So far, agreements have been made with the affected people except for one that is still outstanding.

We have signed settlement agreements with 51 property holders except for one.
Marawa said of the US$34 million needed to compensate the affected people, the government had paid US$12 million to 19 property holders.
Moreover, 95 other leaseholders within the project space will be relocated. The Government committed to service the land and build three-roomed chore houses for each. Said Marawa:
Government will compensate affected property owners in the next two months. It will reconsider and reconstruct the programming consolidated dates after June.
So far, the government is happy with the quality of the work which is being undertaken by a private contractor (Fossils Mines) at a cost of US$88 million.
The project started on 18 September 2022 and was scheduled to be completed by 17 March 2023.
Marawa said a new expected completion date will be set in June.
The project has 13 interchange bridges as well as 15km of interchange roads and service roads. Four bridges are above 90% complete.

“ZEC Violating The Constitution”: ERC

By A Correspondent- The Election Resource Centre (ERC) has accused the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) of violating the Constitution by failing to publish the voters’ roll ostensibly to protect voters’ data in accordance with the Data Protection Act.

This comes after High Court judge Justice Never Katiyo rejected an application by Harare North MP, Allan Markham, who sought the court to compel ZEC to release the voters’ roll.

He said the release of the electronic voters’ roll would expose the document to manipulation.

But in a statement issued on Wednesday, ERC said ZEC’s reasons for withholding the Voters’ Roll were unconstitutional and will affect the credibility of the elections. Reads the statement:

The ERC notes the statement made by the ZEC Chairperson Honourable Chigumba in Parliament on 5 April 2023.

The Chairperson is quoted stating that the Electoral Commission is unable to publish the voters’ roll as it has the responsibility to protect the data of voters in accordance with the Data Protection Act.

While the Data Protection Act is there to provide for data protection with due regard to the Declaration of Rights under the Constitution, the act also addresses the protection of data in terms of public and national interest.

Section 11 (5) (h) of the Data Protection Act states that the data controller (ZEC in this instance) shall process sensitive data if, “the processing of data is authorised by a law or any regulation for any other reason constituting substantial public interest.”

Section 21 (3) of the Electoral Act legally authorises the Commission to within a reasonable period of time provide any person who requests it, and who pays the prescribed fee a copy of any voters’ roll either in printed or in electronic form as the person may request.

Therefore, ZEC is legally obligated by the Electoral Act read in line with the Data Protection Act to avail the voters’ roll data, especially as it constitutes substantial public interest as the roll is necessary for electoral participation and the realisation of political rights as envisaged by the Constitution.

The continued denial of the voters’ roll especially, to persons with a legitimate interest in the voters’ roll and free and fair elections, such as political parties, candidates and CSOs under the guise of data protection is unlawful and detrimental to the credibility of the 2023 Harmonised Elections.

The ERC repeats its calls, that the voters’ roll should be made public, as the credibility and validity of the delimitation process and the 2023 Harmonised Elections are dependent on it.

SA Soldier Kills 23yr Old Zim Man Smuggling Onions

By A Correspondent- A 23 year-old Zimbabwean man who was allegedly shot dead by a South African soldier at Limpopo River was buried in Bulawayo on Friday.

Mduduzi Mbulelo Mlilo was reportedly assisting border jumpers and smugglers at an illegal crossing point on 02 April when the soldier shot him once in the breast, killing him instantly.

Mlilo was among a group of 16 smugglers who were intercepted by South African soldiers at an illegal crossing point.

His body was taken to Tshilidzini Mortuary in Limpopo Province where it was kept pending police investigations.

The soldier who shot him has since been arrested and charged with murder and is set to stand trial at the Musina Regional Court on 15 May.

Mduduzi’s father, Dubayi Mlilo, told the Chronicle that his son was buried at Luveve cemetery. He said:

This is devastating; my son was killed just like that. If they were really implementing the law, they could have arrested him and taken him to court.

We have had an update from the police and we will follow the case with interest

Mlilo said according to witnesses, Mduduzi was shot while assisting people to smuggle an assortment of goods, mainly onions.

He said he was told that the soldier jumped from a vehicle and opened fire at Mduduzi while standing on the river bank.

He then fell into the water and his body was later retrieved and taken to the mortuary around 8 PM after lying on the riverbed for almost six hours.

On 15 February this year, a member of the South African Border Guard shot and killed a Zimbabwean man at Beitbridge Border Post.

The man was allegedly shot for reprimanding the Border Guards for assaulting an old woman who was picking up empty cans and plastic containers for recycling.

The incident occurred at the foot of the New Limpopo Bridge (NLB) on the South African side of the border at around 4 AM.

Chiwenga Hunts Down Zim Academic Over Multi-Million Dollar Water Project

By James Gwati | A Zimbabwean academic, Jephias Mundawaro’s life is in danger after Vice President Constantino Chiwenga launched a search on him over his association with a local company that he (Chiwenga) hijacked a government tender from.

Chiwenga hijacked a dam construction tender from Tawana Power Corporation.

The company was managed by a Harare businessman and Mundawaro’s business partner, George Mushambi.

Mushambi died of suspected poisoning by Chiwenga early this year.

Sources within the security sector told ZimEye that Chiwanga is now going for Mundawaro, who has since fled to the Netherlands for his safety.

” A team of hitmen has since been assembled to find and disappear Mr Mundawaro because he is in possession of the company papers. We are also told that he wants to expose how the Boss (Chiwenga) blocked the tender and how Mushambi was assassinated,” said the source.

ZimEye contacted Mr Mundawaro, who confirmed his life was in danger.

” I am in hidding and that is all ai can tell you”, he said.

Mushambi’s death followed wrangles with Chiwenga over a multi-million dam construction government tender the late won, which the vice President blocked and later hijacked.

Tawana Power Corporation was awarded a tender to construct the Kondo-Chitowe dam in Manicaland in 2018.

The water project was going to be the most significant inland dam to generate Electricity and feed into the national grid. It would also benefit local communities with irrigation and other farming activities.

The company working with the government had also signed bilateral agreements with the governments of South Africa (Limpopo province) and Mozambique, whose two countries the project was also going to supply both water and power generation.

Chiwenga blocked the tender and grabbed the project after realising the intensity of the project.

Mushambi had taken Chiwenga to the courts challenging these two developments.

Goldmafia’s Mthuli Ncube Drills Boreholes Ahead of 2023 Elections

ZANU-PF Politburo member Professor Mthuli Ncube has set his Cowdray Park Development Agenda in motion with 24 boreholes already drilled, among a cocktail of other developments meant to transform the people’s lives.
Prof Ncube will be representing Zanu-PF in the forthcoming elections in Cowdray Park constituency. He went in unchallenged in the just ended party primary elections in the newly established constituency. The development that he is working to bring to the area is part of his desire to close the development gap in the constituency so that it plays catch-up with other suburbs in the country’s second largest city.

“For over three years I have been having conversations and frequenting Cowdray Park, mostly engaging party structures there. It was during that time that I got well acquainted with the challenges faced by the constituency, particularly the stunted development of major social amenities. Politically, I could have chosen a number of constituencies in the region, Lupane included, but I chose Cowdray Park because of the urgent need for development that is there. My vision is to see Cowdray Park catching up and possibly leap other urban constituencies across Zimbabwe. There is immense potential for that,” said Prof Ncube.

He said with over 9 000 houses in Cowdray Park having no water and sewer connection, a plan has been put in place to address the sewer problem.

We are in conversation with a number of civil engineers in order to get the most professional input in coming up with a permanent solution. Alive to the water challenges facing Bulawayo and aware of the Government’s major projects like Gwayi-Shangani and Nyamandlovu Aquifer, the need for clean water in Cowdray Park is immediate and after consultations with the residents, the most suitable short-term solution we agreed on was the issue of boreholes.

“These will address both the non-connected areas and the connected areas due to the massive water shedding schedule employed by the city council. So far, 24 boreholes have been drilled across strategic sites around Cowdray Park. These boreholes will come with community nutritional gardens in order to improve nutrition and income levels of identified underprivileged groups like widows, orphans, the disabled, women and youth households around these water sources,” said Prof Ncube.

Prof Ncube has also been cognisant of the fact that over half of Cowdray Park is still not connected to the electricity grid. As such, measures have so far been put in place to alleviate the plight of the unconnected community.

“We discovered that residents were paying towards procurement of gum poles and there were no transformers. We have then intervened by sourcing 32 transformers so far out of a required 36, the vision is to have all households connected in the next few months. What is left is the procurement of the poles and we are in touch with a number of companies including Allied Timbers in order to remove the burden from the residents. So, we are very serious about the issue of electricity,” he said.

Prof Ncube has also rolled out other human capital capacitation programmes that have seen youths in the area acquiring various skills training.

“Early this year we rolled out a nurse-aide training course in partnership with the Red Cross Society. A pioneer class of 600 youths went through the first phase and will soon be getting into the last phase while a second group of 600 youths has been enrolled for the second class. This was done at the request of youth groups in Cowdray Park last year and we are already seeing the positive impact that the programme is bringing within the constituency. A skill is a great tool of empowerment,” he said.

He added that there was also a request by youths for assistance towards acquiring driver’s licences.

“We have since rolled out a programme to fund lessons for 1 000 youths within the constituency towards acquiring driving skills and ultimately the licences,” said Prof Ncube. Sunday News

FB Rapist’s Merc Enters Zimbabwe

A Mercedes Benz worth at least R3,5 million that is understood to have been used by captured South African murder convict and escapee Thabo Bester is still stuck at Beitbridge Border Post after it was impounded by law enforcement agents at the border last year, it has emerged.

Stuck at Beitbridge

Bester hogged the limelight in South Africa after his audacious prison escape that was orchestrated with the assistance of his girlfriend and celebrity Dr Nandipha Magudumana. The car was intercepted on May 9 last year when a 36-year-old man from Beitbridge, Sicelo Ndlovu removed South Africa-registered plates from the car and replaced them with Zimbabwean plates.

Ndlovu was later acquitted at the Beitbridge magistrate’s courts where he had appeared on charges of smuggling. Sources at the border said yesterday that the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (Zimra) was still holding on to the car pending further legal action.

“The vehicle is still impounded pending further legal proceedings,” said a border source yesterday.

It is reported that the prison escapee was travelling in that vehicle before it was busted by the alert Ferret security team. He was remanded to June 2 on $30 000 bail pending trial and ordered to report to CID Beitbridge once per two weeks.

Indications are that Ndlovu, the alleged smuggler who was in the company of two others known as Craig and Brian arrived at the Beitbridge Border Post driving a South Africa-registered Mercedes Benz. They removed its original registration plates and fitted Zimbabwean plates (AFC 2106).

After that they drove the vehicle to the last check point intending to leave the border where they were busted by an alert security guard who discovered that the vehicle had not been properly cleared to enter the country.

Ndlovu then drove back to the border and the matter was reported to the police who found him removing the Zimbabwe registration plates, he later hid under his jersey. The registration plates were recovered and upon verification it was established that they were that of a Subaru Legacy.

According to media reports south of the Limpopo River, (Thabo) Bester skipped the border to Zimbabwe to lay low after escaping from the Mangaung Maximum Security Prison where he allegedly paid R5 million to at least nine prison warders who helped him escape. The man is alleged to have faked his death to escape from the prison in Bloemfontein. Bester is being detained in the C-Max section of Pretoria’s Kgosi Mampuru Correctional Centre.

He has since been extradited from Tanzania and returned to prison on Thursday. South Africa’s Justice Minister, Mr Ronald Lamola told the media yesterday that the convict was arrested by Tanzanian security authorities. He was busted along with a woman with whom he is alleged to be his girlfriend, and a Mozambican accomplice.

“We can confirm that these fugitives have been returned to South Africa from Tanzania. Mr Thabo Bester has been readmitted into the Kgosi Mampuru Central Maximum Correctional Facility,” said Minister Lamola. -state media

Caps United Face FC Platinum Test

REIGNING Champions FC Platinum are looking at nothing but maximum points when they make the long trip to Harare to face one of their biggest rivals CAPS United on Sunday.

After the postponement of the Highlanders and Dynamos match, this fixture pitting two of the country’s fervent giants FC Platinum and CAPS United promises to be an explosive encounter as the Green Machine will be seeking to break a six-year jinx.

The encounter has been dubbed an intriguing battle of wits between childhood friends, Norman Mapeza and Lloyd Chitembwe who fancy the hyped passing game.

The defending champions are walking with a spring in their step after an impressive win over Bulawayo Chiefs last week.

While admitting the difference in magnitude of the two teams, Bulawayo Chiefs and CAPS United, Mapeza believes his men will deliver again when they visit Harare.

“We lost our sister during the week and I have been talking to the boys about this fixture. CAPS are doing very well and we know the type of challenges we are going to face but what is important is to come back home with a result,” he said.

FC Platinum have dominated the two clubs’ encounters winning two games and drawing five times.- ZBC News

Dembare coach Hebert ‘Jompano’ Maruwa revealed ahead of the clash that the quartet will not be available for selection due to injury.

“We are going to field a strong team. The team which was going to play in the postponed league match is the same team which is going to play in the Cup,” said Maruwa.

“So far, we have goalkeeper Prince (Tafiremutsa), Frank (Makarati) is out, Donald Mudadi is out, and Denver (Mukamba) is out as well. The four of them are out of this cup clash,” he added.- Soccer24 News

Chelsea To Release 8 Players

Chelsea are reportedly prepared to release eight players at the end of the season if the team fail to qualify for the Champions League.

According English outlet, The Mirror, the club’s hierarchy is considering trimming the bloated squad and its spiraling wage bill, as well as dealing with reported losses of £121.3m for the 2021/22 financial year.

At least eight players have been linked with exits, with Mason Mount, Conor Gallagher and Ruben Loftus-Cheek leading the list.

Mount still has a year left on his contract and rejected several offers to extend his stay. He is wanted by Liverpool and Manchester City.

N’Golo Kante’s future is also in doubt as his current deal expires this summer and has yet to commit to a new contract despite the club’s optimism that he will stay.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Hakim Ziyech look certain to be leaving at the end of the season.

There are doubts over Christian Pulisic, while the club will have to make a final decision on Mateo Kovacic who is entering the final year of his contract.- Soccer24 News

Mnangagwa Is King Of Gold Mafia – President Chamisa

Tinashe Sambiri

CCC leader President Nelson Chamisa has pinpointed Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa as the king of the gold mafia.

This follows the release of the powerful Al Jazeera documentary on gold looting in Zimbabwe.

In a strong statement, President Chamisa condemned the rampant looting of gold by the Zanu PF regime.

“LEADERS SET THE TONE & EXAMPLE and all others follow. Having just finished watching #GoldMafia4, now the world knows who the King of the #GoldMafia is. Zimbabwe is very rich but presided over by greedy, plunder, looting, and stinking corruption. Heads must roll.

It can’t be as usual in government. Leaders must not be lovers of gold. This we must end,” President Chamisa wrote on his official Facebook page.

Avoid Too Much Salt

The Basic Concepts Of Mining

President Chamisa In Key Meeting With SADC Officials

By Gift Ostallos Siziba

Today( Friday) we met with the SADC Secretariat & its Electoral Advisory Council (SEAC) to discuss a plethora of issues related to the upcoming harmonized elections. Among other issues discussed include the voters’ roll, the persecution of our change champion, Hon Job Sikhala, violence against our members & their arbitrary arrests, weaponization of the law against innocent citizens, delimitation, the banning of more than 60 of our meetings and rallies and the politicization of state media.

We also had an opportunity to present our PREPARE document as well as our our concerns as we approach the watershed harmonized elections.

SA High Court Reserves Judgement In ZEP Holders Case

By-A full bench in the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria has reserved its judgement in the case brought by the Zimbabwean Exemption Permit Holders (ZEPHA) and other civil society organisations against the state.

ZEPHA is seeking permanent residence in South Africa for Zimbabwean Exemption Permit (ZEP) holders.
ZEPHA had previously asked for ZEP holders to be given permanent residence but this was then changed to ask the court to allow them to apply for permanent residence, as required by the Immigration Act.
ZEPHA had also asked for the Minister of Home Affairs Aaron Motsoaledi’s decision to terminate the ZEP scheme to be set aside as unlawful and invalid.
Arguing for the state, advocate Myron Dewrance said the ZEP permit specifically prohibited the holder from applying for permanent residence.
However, Advocate Simba Chitando, representing ZEPHA, argued that the Immigration Act makes provision for those residing in South Africa under a variety of visa programmes to apply for permanent residence and that this right should be granted to ZEP holders.

Presiding Officer Justice Colleen Collis as said:
We have concluded during our brief adjournment that in order to do justice to the merits of this application as well as the importance of the application to the parties concerned and the urgency of this application that it would be prudent rather reserve our ruling.
We are aware that the litigants before the court would want to have finalisation of their pending application before the 30th of June 2023 so we will have that in mind.
The exemption permit system was introduced in 2009 under the Dispensation of Zimbabweans Project (DZP).
It allowed some 250 000 Zimbabweans unlawfully in South Africa to regularise their status, allowing them to live, work and study in South Africa.
In 2014, the DZP was renamed the Zimbabwe Special Permit (ZSP). The name changed again three years later to Zimbabwe Exemption Permit or ZEP.
In September 2022, South Africa’s Department of Home Affairs extended the permit which was due to expire on December 31, for a further six months to June 30, 2023.

Bail conditions for Budirio 25 relaxed

By A Correspondent| The bail conditions for the CCC supporters arrested at a party meeting in Budiriro in January 2023 have been relaxed. The 26 now report to their nearest police station every last Friday of the month, instead of once every week.

The conditions were relaxed after their lawyer, Lynnet Phiri, from the Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum, made an application for a variation of bail reporting conditions.

The State opposed the application arguing the reporting conditions were already lenient and a safeguard against abscondment.

The Court granted the application for variation of the bail conditions stating that the State suffered no prejudice.

They will be back in court on 18 May 2023 for trial.

2000 Candidates For CCC Parliamentary Seats, 30 000 For Local Authority

A record of 2 000 candidates are set to slug it out for the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) party’s parliamentary tickets in this year’s general election, NewsDay reported.

This came out during the party’s candidates nomination exercise where 30 000 candidates were also nominated to fight for local authority seats.

The CCC began nominating its candidates last week, with an independent candidate selection panel (ICSP) led by human rights campaigner Rashid Mahiya overseeing the process.

Addressing journalists in Harare yesterday, the party’s ICSP spokesperson Shepard Ngandu said the candidate selection process received overwhelming support with the nominees now undergoing a vetting process.

“Nelson Chamisa has been nominated as the presidential candidate by all streets and villages whose returns are in our possession,” Ngandu said.

“For the women and youth nomination also ICSP is yet to finalise its tally; indications are that an unprecedented number of women have been nominated. The youth factor is another exciting and emerging aspect of the nomination process outcome which is positive in ensuring intergenerational… within CCC.”

CCC deputy spokesperson Gift Siziba said party bigwigs such as Tendai Biti, Job Sikhala, Fadzayi Mahere and Joanna Mamombe stand to qualify despite convictions and pending court cases.

“This process is not intending to target people (who) have been convicted through persecution by prosecution.

“This is a security vetting of one’s credentials. We broadly belong to the democratic tradition and the democratic family. These are security issues that must be looked for,” Siziba said.

Gunshot By ZRP Cop

A 38-year-old man from Sojini, Mbembesi was shot on the left shoulder by a police officer last week after a fight erupted among revellers drinking at the Mbembesi Police Station’s canteen
Raymond Mkhomaza is currently admitted at United Bulawayo Hospital (UBH) where he is receiving treatment.

When CITE visited him on Friday, he was still in pain as he said the bullet was still lodged inside his body.

“The incident occurred on Sunday around 5am. We were drinking at the police canteen, we usually drink there as villagers and commotion erupted and we started fighting as patrons. The police on duty came carrying a gun and headed straight to me as I was also fighting and in that commotion he pushed me, making me turn and he shot me,” Mkhomaza alleged.

The victim said he was shot on his left shoulder and after the incident the police officer left.

“I went to the charge office to report that I have been shot. I have spent six days here and the bullet is still inside. I still have to go for an X-ray as the doctor said the bullet missed my heart, and I have a lot of air inside,” Mkhomaza said.

Contacted for a comment, Matabeleland North Provincial Police Spokesperson Inspector Glory Banda confirmed the incident but said Mkhomaza was part of a group that had been carrying “offensive weapons” and posed a threat.

“It happened in Mbembesi of course, I know the story. It’s been a while since it happened, it is not a new thing. What happened was that these guys were found in the early morning hours at Mbembesi police canteen, they were holding some knobkerries and other offensive weapons and whatever they were carrying suggested that they were up to some evil because there is a history of theft at the canteen,” said Insp. Banda.

“When they were asked what they were doing, they said ‘we are not afraid of your gun’ and started advancing towards the policeman.”

Insp. Banda said the policeman fired two warning shots but the men continued advancing towards him.

“The policeman had no option, then the other man was shot in the shoulder,” said Insp. Banda, adding that after the incident, all the men fled.

“The next morning, the man who was shot in the shoulder showed up in the police station, saying he sustained an injury and was arrested.”

Insp. Banda dismissed that Mkhomaza was drinking with other patrons.

“That was not the time to drink and drinking has nothing to do with carrying knobkerries. You don’t need a knobkerrie to drink, you only need your money. You don’t need weapons if you are about to drink, and if you are drinking it doesn’t mean you advance towards the policeman and try to attack him. That incident has nothing to do with drinking,” he said.

Insp. Banda said whenever criminals are confronted by armed police, they must not try to disarm them. –CITE

Platinum Mine Flops

Investors in one of Zimbabwe’s biggest platinum projects — Todal Mining — were this week said to have dumped the project, turning the heat on Mines minister Winston Chitando to cancel its licence.
Todal’s claims were taken from Anglo American Platinum over a decade ago and handed to Central African Mining & Exploration. The company was later bought by Eurasian Natural Resources, which later became Eurasian Resources Group.

The claims are adjacent to AngloPlat’s Unki Mine in Shurugwi.

Government sources close to the project said this week authorities had not heard from Todal investors for a while now.

Senior officials In the Mines ministry told the Zimbabwe Independent that administratively, Todal was changing hands, but would not elaborate.

But others, however, said the project’s international shareholders and local partners had no capacity to run mining operations.

“The lack of development at Bokai and Kinonde concessions by Todal Mining has continued to be of concern to authorities,” a source at the Mines ministry told the Independent. “Chitando is now under increasing pressure to cancel the deal at a time when investment in platinum mining continues to attract investors.

“The proprietors of the project are nowhere to be found. They have literally dumped the project. One of the local partners (name supplied) has been globetrotting and is nowhere to be found.”

Pfungwa Kunaka, permanent secretary in the Ministry of Mines, only confirmed that there were changes underway in terms of Todal’s administration at the ministry.

“There were indications that the project was being transferred to Defold, which is another parastatal,” Kunaka said.

“We are still gathering information internally and will revert,” he added.

Defold is a parastatal in the ministry, which is now chaired by ex- mines permanent secretary, Onismo Mazai Moyo.

Mazai said he could not comment as the transfer of Todal to Delford was not yet complete.

Todal’s local partner Valentine Garacho did not respond to questions.

Questions sent to Eurasia Resources Group via e-mail were also not responded to.

Sources told the Independent that political bigwigs in the Midlands province were backing a well-known mining tycoon to take over the concessions.

The mining tycoon already has a huge footprint in the gold, ferrochrome and platinum sectors.

“There is serious lobbying by some Midlands politicians who have queried Todal Mining’s capacity to execute that multi-billion-dollar project,” a source said.

“Midlands politicians are pushing for this mining tycoon to take over the concessions. They worry that the project has been dormant for too long and this was not good for the province, which already boasts of various successful mining projects,” the source said.

With a 20-year life, Todal was expected to produce an average of 150 000 tonnes of platinum ore per month but required US$250 million investment to start operations.

The Independent is reliably informed that the government has been piling pressure on Todal Mining Limited to come up with a roadmap on starting operations.

Chitando was instructed by Cabinet last year to follow-up on the project and he informed Todal Mining that its concessions could be seized because no progress was made in developing them.

Last year, Information, Publicity, and Broadcasting Services Minister Monica Mutsvangwa told a post-Cabinet briefing said Cabinet wanted the platinum project up and running.

“Cabinet also considered the need to get the Todal-Bokai Platinum Project next to Unki Mine into production as soon as possible so that it contributes to the US$12 billion mining industry milestone. Mines minister was also tasked to follow up on the issue accordingly,” Mutsvangwa said then.

Zimbabwe has the world’s third-biggest platinum group metal reserves but to date, only three platinum projects are in full production. Great Dyke Investments’ Darwendale project is yet to take off after failing to raise funding while Karo Resources project is still in the initial stages. –Zimbabwe Independent

Baba Harare Humiliates Star FM Over Winky D Exclusion

Star FM was on Friday humiliated by Baba Harare who withdrew his nomination from its listeners’ awards nominees after the radio station mysteriously snubbed Winky D from the same category.

Baba Harare had been enlisted for the awards together with musicians Voltz JT, Micheal Mahendere, Felix Nandi and Freeman.

But the Jiti chanter protested his nomination saying there are great artists who should have graced the center stage but sadly, they aren’t in any category.

“Thank you very much Star FM and the listeners for the nomination. I feel honoured. However due to my own personal reasons, I don’t feel worthy of the nomination.

“There are other great acts/ artists who should have graced the center stage but sadly aren’t in any category. So I wish my nomination to be withdrawn. Thank you once again for the opportunity.”

Star FM is part of Zimpapers, a state run media oligopoly. State media seemingly stopped playing Winky D music earlier this year following the Zim Dancehall artist’s release of his album Eureka Eureka which the ruling party deemed political.

Critics have since pointed out that Winky D is currently not being played on ZBC and all other government controlled news stations because his latest album challenged Zanu-PF’s alleged corruption and maladministration.

Baba Harare’s followers have since praised him for making such a bold decision of rejecting the seemingly bogus nomination.

Chaos As Zanu PF Nullifies Primary Election Results

THE rerun for the inconclusive ZANU PF primary elections is set for this Saturday and Sunday with candidates vying to represent the party in five constituencies.

The first four constituencies will have their primary elections rerun this Saturday, while Insiza South will conduct its elections on Saturday, April 22 to pave way for the installation of Chief Maduna on Saturday.

ZANU PF National Political Commissar Dr Mike Bimha said vote counting should be done by 6 pm on the same day.

“Reruns are now slated on Saturday 15th of April with polling stations opening at 0700 and closing at 3 pm and immediately after 3 pm counting will start and by 6 pm, counting will be done but they will remain preliminary results to be announced on Monday,” he said.

Dr Bimha added that politburo members will be deployed in each constituency while central committee members will be at each polling station to ensure a smooth process.

“To have smooth reruns, two Politburo members will be deployed per constituency and will be stationed at the command centre. Polling stations will have central committee members and they don’t come from that province same applies to PB members and presiding officers are undergoing a one-day workshop,” he said.

All candidates will meet at the party Headquarters this Friday for a special briefing regarding their conduct as well as that of their supporters.- ZBC News

ZIFA Responds To Nelson Warriors Snub

National teams general manager Wellington Mpandare has responded to Reiss Nelson’s remarks about his nationality.

The Arsenal star, born to a British mother and a Zimbabwean father, has played for the England youth teams, but can choose to play for Zimbabwe at senior level.

Nelson ended any hopes of him being persuaded to don the gold and green Warriors strip, by categorically stating that he is not from Zimbabwe.

Mpandare, who has over the years tried to persuade the 23-year-old to play for Zimbabwe, admits Nelson choosing Jamaica over the Warriors is sad, but his decision will be respected

“It’s sad that (Reiss) Nelson chose not to represent Zimbabwe, but life goes on for us,” Mpandare told Soccer24.

“We would have loved to have him as part of the Warriors, but unfortunately, he chose his mother’s country of birth.

It’s a closed chapter. There are so many players eligible to represent Zimbabwe, and our only prayer is that international football returns soon,” added Mpandare. – Soccer24 News

Facebook Rapist: I’m Scared

Thabo Bester, a murderer and convicted rapist, has informed the court that he is not yet planning to request release.
The “Facebook rapist” claims he will submit an application later.

On Friday, 11 months after breaking out of the G4S-run Mangaung Correctional Center, Bester made an appearance in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court.

In addition to being accused of eluding justice, violating a body, and fraud, Bester is also accused of escaping.

Bester listened closely as the magistrate, who earlier turned down his request to speak in front of the court, heard his attorney argue his client’s case.

According to his attorney, Bester was dissatisfied with the meals provided to him while inside and worried about his safety.

To the following month, the subject was postponed.

Never Opt For Illegal Mining Route

Causes of mine suspension or forfeiture

Mine operations are regulated by laws of the country that protect the environment; people, livestock, wild animals and the economy . Therefore if an officer from ministry of mines or EMA thinks these are threatened by one way or the other the mine is suspended or closed entire through a procedure that is lawful can be challenged in a court of law if offender thinks they have been treated unfairly. We will briefly outline usually causes of those suspensions . You should note that they not always lead to automatic suspension unless if inspections are not renewed on time that one is the only automatic but can also be avoided or requested through relevant offices .

Failure to appoint manager and blaster .
Before a mine starts operations a mine must appoint qualified manager who in turn appoints a qualified blasters. Any mine found any of the two can be suspended if continues to operate unlawfully under suspension a second suspension is usually given then a third one can lead to court that can lead to permanent suspension and a possible ban for life . This can be challenged in court with proof of innocence if such evidence could be there especially if the manager was appointed before the second suspension yet the inspecting officer couldn’t see the appoint letter because of good reasons tabled in court .

Failure to maintain proper ore and gold register.
All mine production of ore and gold should be registered in official gold registers and kept properly taken monthly before the 10th of the next month for returns at ministry of mines. Failure to do can result in suspension or permanent suspension. Such cases are difficult to challenge in court because gold belongs to the state any misappropriation of information can lead to arrest .

Under declaration of gold produced .
All gold productions are recorded by manager properly every day could any evidence that you are under declaring gold production automatic suspension can be effected
Failure to fence , refill and put collar to shafts according to mines requirement .

All mine shafts should be fenced, disused shafts should be refilled and all shafts should have collar to prevent shafts collapse there by causing danger to people and animals . Failure to do so can lead to suspension while working towards meeting mining standards.
Mining in a manner that endangers the environment , livestock and humans
According to EMA all mining activities should preserve the environment and avoid unnecessary loss of lives of both people and animals. Any haphazard mining that destroys vegetation indiscriminately and creates a lot of unfenced or unnecessary spillage of hazardous chemicals into water or atmosphere can result in suspension by EMA .

Failure to have proper license or operations without relevant licenses.
Below are license for both EMA and ministry of mines
Explosives license
Carbon transportation permit
Solid waste disposal license
Hazardous substance storage license
Gold buying license
Gold trade license
If you found operation without this licenses you get a ticket if you persist then you get a suspension effected by black boots or riot police.
Failure to pay inspection fees
Inspection fees are paid annually failing to do so results in forfeiture.

Bishop Magaya Slams False Prophets

By Bishop Ancelimo Magaya

Whilst it is unfortunate and regrettable that the recent developments in Zimbabwe have punctured a hole of confidence in the character and ministry of the church, let it be known to all that God has not left the world without a credible prophetic witness of the testimony of our Lord Jesus.

Failure on the part of a section of the church and obnoxious behavior of false prophets in sheep’s clothing will not be a valid excuse for non repentance and denial of the lordship of Jesus.

God will judge both the false prophets that have led the gullible astray together with those that reject the lordship and savior-hood of Jesus on account of fake Christians. This is the time to embrace the saving Grace of Jesus Christ. Be truly born again. Walk in His word and you will not be disappointed.

Fighting for socio-economic justice from a stand point of the God who is just, is the way to go. Any other angle is shaky and sinking sand.

By arguing for the God of justice as a stand point from which socio-economic justice agenda should be driven, l am not suggesting a pacifist, docile and pronouncements that are void of action. Scriptures are replete with episodes of action. Remember Nathan’s strategy and prophetic direction he gave to Bathesheba when Adonijah had declared himself the king in a season that God wanted Solomon to be on the throne. God save Zimbabwe.

Byo Church In Fraud Storm

THE United Congregational Church of Southern Africa (UCCSA)’s branch in Bulawayo’s Nkulumane suburb is at the centre of a fraud storm amid allegations that they duped one of their elderly congregants of her house.

According to court papers filed at the Bulawayo High Court on 20 September last year under case number HC 1984/ 22 Elizabeth Moyo who later died from stress caused by the alleged duping claimed that the church’s pastor Imon David Ndlovu took advantage of her old age and initiated proceedings for her to donate her house to the church.
Moyo diedcon 23 January 2023.

Through her lawyer Tendai Mike Abraham from Tanaka Law Chambers, Moyo had listed Nkulumane United Congregational Church of Southern Africa (UCCSA), Imon David Ndlovu, The Registrar of Deeds and the City of Bulawayo as the first, second, third and fourth defendants.

The suit reads in part: “Sometime in 2014, the plaintiff was a congregant at the 1st defendant’s Nkulumane branch. The plaintiff was 85 years of age at the time and owned an immovable property, 300 square metres in size, being stand number 14228 Nkulumane Township of stand Number 12600 Nkulumane Township situated in the District of Bulawayo.

“As a result of being advanced in age, plaintiff at the time, and since is infirm, suffers from bouts of dementia and requires assistance with regular day to day activities. Plaintiff is also illiterate”.

The lawsuit states that in 2014, Ndlovu being the pastor of the church initiated proceedings for the now deceased Moyo to donate her house to the church.

According to the court papers Moyo was made to unwittingly affix her thumb print to various transfer documents and she did so trusting Ndlovu as the pastor at the church.

“Plaintiff was illegally and surreptitiously defrauded into donating her immovable property to the 1st defendant. Section 8 of the Deeds Registries Act (Chapter 20:05) provides for the cancellation of a title deed under the present fraudulent circumstances,” further reads the lawsuit.

Mugabe Warned Me To Stay away From Snake Oil Churches ED Now Frequent, Says Mzembi

By A Correspondent| Former Foreign Affairs minister Walter Mzembi has revealed details of what the late former President Robert Mugabe told him about the Pentecostal churches being frequented by Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Posting on Twitter Friday morning, Mzembi said Mugabe told him to stay away from “snake oil church salesmen”.

“Mugabe in one of his twilight Cabinet sessions told us to stay away from these snake oil Church salesmen. Leave them to Mohadi Mushohwe Chikwinya and your deputy he addressed me directly in Cabinet. You are Catholic I don’t want you to mix with them,” said Mzembi.

Mnangagwa and his cabinet including Oppah Muchinguri had a busy Easter holiday as they were pictured attending services at various mass churches in a move widely seen as campaigning ahead of the watershed 2023 polls set for August.

Pressure Group Condemns Persecution Of Political Activists In Zim

AMNESTY International says (AI) the conviction of Citizens Coalition for Change spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere for “publishing falsehoods” is part of a wider plot by government to silence critical voices.

Mahere was accused of publishing falsehoods in a case involving a woman whose child was erroneously reported to have been struck to death by a baton-wielding Harare police officer while he was enforcing COVID-19 lockdown regulations in 2020.

Video footage of the incident went viral on social media platforms in 2020, showing the distraught mother of the child wailing, while holding onto a police officer who had “allegedly assaulted her baby to death”.

Mahere was fined US$500 or three months imprisonment.

AI’s deputy director for east and southern Africa, Flavia Mwangovya, said Mahere’s conviction had a chilling effect on other critical voices.

“The conviction of Mahere is a travesty of justice as it is based on a law that is no longer existent in Zimbabwe and applied to silence dissent,” Mwangovya.

In 2021, High Court judge Justice Jester Helana Charewa, however, ruled that “there is no offence called publishing or communicating statements prejudicial to the State under Zimbabwean law”.

“The legal provision that was used to convict Mahere was declared void by the Constitutional Court in 2014. The High Court confirmed this in another case in 2021. The Magistrate Court in this case should have taken note of the decisions of the upper courts and acquitted Mahere,” Mwangovya said.

“The conviction and sentencing demonstrate the extent to which authorities are willing to muzzle critical voices and suppress the right to freedom of expression.

“The authorities are sending a clear message that there is no space for exercising the right to freedom of expression in Zimbabwe.”

Mwangovya added: “Zimbabwean authorities must quash the sentence and stop using the courts to target and harass individuals exercising their right to freedom of expression both online and offline.”

Information minister Monica Mutsvangwa and her deputy Kindness Paradza were not reachable for comments, despite repeated efforts.

Critics and the opposition have been expressing concern over the shrinking democratic space in the country.

Zanu-PF has, meanwhile, been railroading controversial laws such as the Private Voluntary Amendment Bill which seeks to regulate the operations of non-governmental organisations and civic society organisations.- NewsDay

Victory Is Upon Us- President Chamisa

Tinashe Sambiri|CCC leader President Nelson Chamisa has taken a swipe at his main political rival, Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa pointing out that the Zanu PF President does not have the capacity to rebuild the country.

Mr Mnangagwa’s nyika inovakwa nevene vayo mantra is therefore useless and ineffective, according to President Chamisa.

In a statement posted on CCC’s official Facebook page, President Chamisa said :

“WE ARE NATION BUILDERS: We’re nation builders and our pre-occupation is to win a Nation not Election. We can’t have a nation with a non-functional economy.

Nation builders don’t divide but unite. Nation builders are not driven by hate but by love. Nation builders don’t see enemies in the next man or woman but they see patriots and friends.

We must win this nation for Change. We must win Zimbabwe for Change.”

Tsvangirai Poised For Victory

Tinashe Sambiri|CCC’s Richard Tsvangirai has described the death of Norton elder James Tamson as a body blow to the entire community.

Richard is the son of the late MDC founding president Dr Morgan Tsvangirai.

Richard described the late Mdara Jimmy as a selfless figure.

See statement below:

“This afternoon, I attended the funeral of James Tamson Mdara Jimmy .
As a community, we are deeply saddened by his departure.
He was deeply committed to the role of being a servant of the community.
A teacher, father, and Uncle to many.
May his soul rest in peace.”

On the political situation in Norton Richard said :

“I had a quick chat with Zanu Pf candidate, Constance Shamhu.

She is a champion of new generational leadership.

I promised her that i won’t make age an issue of this campaign and I won’t exploit her age and tiredness for political purposes.

May Norton benefit from this political competition.”

Advantage Real Madrid!

Defending champions Real Madrid handily beat Chelsea 2-0 in their Champions League quarterfinal first leg at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday in a match whose final scoreline could have easily been more lopsided.

Chelsea started strong under new caretaker manager Frank Lampard, with Joao Felix and Raheem Sterling going close early on only to be thwarted by Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois playing against his former club.

However, the hosts grew into the game and went ahead just after 20 minutes when Karim Benzema pounced on a loose ball in front of goal and rolled it into an open net after Kepa Arrizabalaga deflected a Vinicius Junior shot into the Frenchman’s path.

It was Benzema’s 90th Champions League goal with the last 11 all coming against English clubs.

Madrid had eight shots on goal in the opening half and Chelsea will have likely been happy to limp into the dressing room trailing only 1-0 at the break.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side continued to look far stronger than their Premier League opposition as the second half began and Chelsea’s job became even harder ahead of the hour when Ben Chilwell hauled down Rodrygo from behind as he rushed toward goal and was shown a straight red card.

The one-way action became even more pronounced and Madrid soon had their second when Marco Asensio lashed home a shot from the top of the penalty area minutes after replacing Rodrygo in the 71st.

“He looks very good, every game he plays he scores in almost every game,” Ancelotti said of Asensio after the game. “If he starts or comes on, he’s decisive, in any moment he can score or assist.

“Rodrygo takes more risks, he’s more vertical, takes players on, moves without the ball. Marco is good between the lines and has a great shot.”

It was another stellar Champions League night for both Benzema and Vincius, with the latter notching two assists to take his total goal contributions to 11 in European competition this season, second-most behind Erling Haaland’s 12.

“We played well. It’s one of our best games of the season but we have the return leg and we have to stay calm and be strong there, as we were here,” the Brazilian said after the match. “There were a lot of spaces, we always want to score more goals, but we’re playing a great team and we know how difficult it is to play the return leg away from home, that’s why we wanted to score more goals. But we have to stay calm.

“Every player who wears this shirt knows that playing in the Champions League is special, the fans push you, if you play for Madrid you have to want to play in the Champions League.”

Benzema, who scored a hat trick in London last year before getting another in Madrid in a 5-4 aggregate thriller, could have effectively seen off Chelsea in added time at the end of the second half when he headed over with the goal at his mercy after Kepa could only punch the ball as far as him.

Chelsea substitute Mason Mount then came close to a crucial goal for the Blues when he turned and shot in the penalty area but former teammate Antonio Rudiger, also on off the bench, raced in to block.

In the end, the Londoners failed to scored for a fourth match in a row — three of them in the Premier League — their longest barren run since 1993.

Lampard — Chelsea’s top goalscorer who returned to Stamford Bridge for a second spell as coach until the end of the season after Graham Potter was fired this month — embraced Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti, himself an ex-Chelsea manager, at the final whistle.

“They’re a very good team, but we have to believe,” Lampard told BT Sport, referring to next week’s return leg in London.

For Lampard’s opposite number Ancelotti, the job was far from done despite the decisive first-leg win.

“We have to do it with a complete game like we played tonight, it was a complete game tonight from the start,” Ancelotti said. “The objective was to take the advantage and we have it, but we’ll have to suffer. Chelsea are a good team with good players, we’ll have to fight for another 90 minutes.

“Against 10 men we could have done a bit more, but against 11 we had used a lot of energy, pressing them to win the ball, and after that we lacked a bit of energy and clarity to do better. We have to repeat this game again at Stamford Bridge.”- ESPN

Chamisa Confirmed CCC Presidential Candidate

By- CCC leader Nelson Chamisa has been nominated, uncontested, as the presidential candidate for the opposition party in the upcoming elections.

The party’s Citizen’s Independent Selection Panel (CISP) gave an update on the candidate selection process during a press conference held on Thursday in Harare.
Rashid Mahiya, a member of CISP, said Chamisa was nominated as the Presidential candidate by all streets and villages. He said:
Presidential nominations, Chamisa Nelson has been nominated as the Presidential candidate by all streets and villages whose returns are in our possession.
He said there was an overwhelming response from aspiring candidates across the country. Said Mahiya:
The summary outcome of the candidate’s nomination after consulting stakeholders, village and street committees is as follows: The local authority nominations have been received from all the 36 000 villages, thousands of streets and 1 970 wards.
For the House of Assembly nomination, we received nominations from all 210 constituencies, an interesting phenomenon has been noted in some hotly contested constituencies for instance a constituency where 11 nominations were received for one seat.
Mahiya said the nominated candidates will be checked using set criteria including capability and competence. He said:
The credentials and track record checklist for candidate selection, and the vetting and security checklist will look into the following: firstly, qualifications that are in compliance with the relevant statute of Zimbabwe, the constitution, the electoral Act, CCC candidate selection procedures manual, community and standing track record, performance in communities, political history and record, capacity and capability and competence, security, integrity, ethics, loyalty and service record.
He said a date has been set for the caucuses that will take all over the country after which they will announce the names of successful candidates.

Chamisa Squashes Sikhala Abandonment Claims

By- The Nelson Chamisa-led CCC has refuted claims it has abandoned jailed Zengeza West MP, Job Sikhala.

The party’s deputy chair has been incarcerated at Chikurubi Maximum Security Prison for 303 days now.

CCC spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere told NewsDay on Wednesday that the notion that the party has turned its back on its vice chairman is mere propaganda. Said Mahere:

The suggestion that the citizens have abandoned Honourable Sikhala is obviously propaganda. Nothing could be far from the truth.

Sikhala is a citizen just like all of us; he is a change champion who is at the forefront of working for the citizens in Zimbabwe. He remains one of us.

Sikhala’s spokesperson, Freddy Michael Masarirevu, also said Chamisa made efforts to see Sikhala when he visited him at Chikurubi, saying it showed he loves the jailed lawmaker. Tweeted Masarirevu:

I was at Chikurubhi the day CCiC @nelsonchamisa was made to wait for 4 hours & still denied access to see Hon @JobSikhala1 – He was patient & waited outside whilst phone calls were being made. I even left the place & he remained behind – I see effort, I see love.

Award-winning journalist and government critic Hopewell Chin’ono recently clashed with CCC activists on social media after he accused the party of abandoning Sikhala.

Meanwhile, an independent civic group, Poverty Liberation Movement, co-founded by Sikhala, is mobilising a solidarity visit to his family this Saturday. The group said:

Those who are not able to physically bring their solidarity letters on Satur- day 15 April 2023, kindly send them through email. Our email is Povertyliberation@ gmail.com. Sikhala will be happy to read letters of encouragement from all of you.

Sikhala was arrested in June 2022 for allegedly inciting public violence following clashes at the funeral wake of CCC activist Moreblessing Ali.

Ali, who was a Chitungwiza Municipality employee and resided in Nyatsime, was allegedly murdered by ZANU PF supporter, Pius Jamba.

Latest On Makhadzi Mutare Gig Violence

By- The organiser of South African musician Makhadzi’s Mutare show, Partson “Chipaz” Chimbodza, has apologised to fans and the artiste after her show in Mutare on Friday ended prematurely due to violence.

In a statement, Chipaz said the fracas was caused by fans from the Mbombera section who encroached into the VIP section resulting in cans being thrown around.
Makhadzi escaped unscathed and Chillspot intervened to calm the situation. Reads the statement:

Good evening Zimbabwe we would like to put the record straight as we hosted the recent Makhadzi Show in Mutare.
First of all, we would like to apologise to the affected fans; secondly we apologise to the artists, mainly Makhadzi who was caught in this mishap.
Makhadzi was billed to perform at exactly 12 midnight as planned and she was indeed on time.
Just before she went on stage whilst Chillspot were performing, some rowdy fans forced open the barricades that demarcated Mbombera and VIP section and Chillspot had to calm them down.
As Makhadzi went on stage Standard Ticket-holding fans wanted to get a close view of their favourite artists and they forced their way closer to the stage thereby encroaching VIP section a scenario that did go well with VIP fans and that’s when pushing and shoving started which resulted in standard Ticket fans throwing cans towards Vip section and those in the VIP retaliated throwing cans back.
So cans being thrown toward the VIP section some would go towards the stage and this disrupted Makhadzi’s act and it ended her much-liked performance.
We managed to let her escape and we brought in Chillspot to calm the situation down. The show then ended at 4.30 am.
So cans were never about the artists but an exchange of cans between VIP fans and the Standard Ticket fans.
Once again we apologise to Makhadzi and hope we will work with her again in the near future.

CCC Independence Planned Protests, An Utter Disgrace And Insult To Zimbabweans By Puppets-Mavaza

By Dr Masimba Mavaza- Zimbabweans in Diaspora are shocked by the CCC announcement and so-called civic organisations that they will demonstrate at every Zimbabwean embassy abroad.

The right of a citizen to demonstrate is a constitutional right in Zimbabwe. It is important to restate that fact.

The right to demonstrate is not based on the reasonableness of the cause or reason of the demonstration. It is a right bestowed to all, both wise and foolish. Democracy demands even the protection of silly protests.

However, the right to demonstrate, like many other freedoms, is not absolute. It is subject to public security or the broader rights of others. It is always a fact that your freedom ends exactly where someone’s freedom starts.

CCC scheduled demonstrations on the 18th of April 2023. This is on Zimbabwe Independence Day.
Of all the 365 days available in a year, CCC has chosen that one prominent day in the calendar of our country and the most important day by a country mile. A day which defines us as a people.
To put things in context, it is essential to summarise the meaning of the 18th of April in our history. This day identifies nationhood since our nation was born that day. It is a day that ended over a decade of a bitter and bloody war. Many sons and daughters returned, some whole but others disabled. And thousands died, and their blood still waters our freedom. Yet many never returned. On this very day, families remember the loss of dear ones in a brutal war, and they comfort one another with an achieved sense of togetherness. Independence Day is the sacred day of every Zimbabwean and every national.

Independence Day is not a celebration, necessarily an occasion to say that everything has us going well; nothing goes according to plan anywhere in the world. It is a day to celebrate who we are. Political differences must be laid aside on an independence day.

Demonstrating on the 18th of April is a shame and an embarrassing insult to the loss of life. It is a dishonour to the memory of those who paid the ultimate price with their lives. It is an insult to men and women who toiled to bring up children as single parents after their spouses lost their lives during the war. It is an ugly insult for those who grew up as orphans.

Irish citizens will never demonstrate on St Patrick Day. In the USA, no one would even think of demonstrating on Thanks Giving Day, never mind American Independence Day. Does it mean that America is a land of paradise? Go and ask African Americans who are brutalised by the police and die at the hands of law enforcement. That side, all respect their national days.

CCC has exceeded the description of an unpatriotic outfit. The act of insulting their own country is unparalleled in history. There are testimonies that on Christmas during World War One, so-called allied soldiers and German soldiers ceased fighting and exchanged Christmas meals to celebrate that one day together. These are armies and men who brutalised each other.
Chamisa and CCC will not celebrate with Zimbabweans.

The choice of the 18th of April to demonstrate is not a random or coincidental choice by Chamisa and the CCC. We have always insisted, and they have always denied that they are imperial puppets of the West. Their masters hate Zimbabwean’s Independence. They ran the day that the country was freed. They would want to darken it. With Chamisa and CCC, they have pliant stooges who will spoil the day for them.

Therefore what comes up vividly clear is that the West is fighting an ogle post-colonial proxy war through and by CCC. We can all see the ill-disguised nature of this war, which is fought by using our country’s most irresponsible and misguided citizens.

CCC will be demonstrating in foreign countries in Zimbabwean embassies. CCC ate the only party in the world that behaves like a woman who takes her children to the man next door to demonstrate against her husband. That act by such a truant woman signals that the demonstration is just a farce and promises her illicit relationship with the man next door and brings her witless children to her adulterous disgrace without shame.

In the UK, the demonstration schedule indicates that from the embassy, the misguided lot will march to No 10 Downing Street ( home of the British Prime Minister), where the offensive business will be fittingly concluded. We know that this will be a reporting statement that “basa tasiya tapedza.”Up and down in Zimbabwe, when people have finished piece jobs, they go to the hirer to sign off and get their checks. This is what CCC will be precisely doing.

CCC has sold and is selling the nation’s dignity for foreign funding. How low can they stoop?
This party wants to take over power with the mission of handing it over to the colonial masters. They believe that the most effective way of recommending themselves to their masters is to inflict the highest insult on the nationhood and identity of Zimbabwe. They would please their handlers by openly trampling on the national flag.

True Zimbabweans must now see CCC for who they are. The most emphatic way of responding to the grave national insult will be to shun CCC like a plague at the election booth.

SA Pushes For The Deportation Of ZEP Holders

By- Home Affairs Minister Aaron Motsoaledi’s decision not to create a further exemption programme for around 178 000 Zimbabwean nationals living in South Africa does not take away their rights – it confers them.

This was one of the arguments by Motsoaledi and the Department of Home Affairs’ director-general in a court challenge by the Helen Suzman Foundation, which is being heard in the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria.

During the economic and political strife in Zimbabwean in 2008 and 2009, many of the country’s nationals fled to South Africa.

The South African government at the time decided to create a blanket exemption so Zimbabweans could get permits to live and work in the country legally.

The permits were effectively extended by creating another permit over the years and have since become known as the Zimbabwean Exemption Permit (ZEP).

In December 2021, Motsoaledi announced the termination of the ZEP, effectively announcing no further exemption would be created for holders and their children.
This decision was challenged by the foundation, which argued in court Motsoaledi’s decision was procedurally unfair and irrational.
It said he did not consider the impact this would have on ZEP holders, and it infringed on their rights.
On Wednesday, advocate Ismail Jamie SC, for the minister and director-general, dismissed the issues raised by the foundation and premised the respondents’ arguments around the fact the decision made was a policy decision.
Jamie argued such a policy decision was not up for judicial scrutiny and only the policy’s implementation could be challenged in a court of law.
In terms of the implementation, he said this was ongoing as ZEP holders were given until June 2023 to regularise their stay in South Africa by applying for other visas or asking to be exempt from the expiration of the ZEP.
Jamie added giving a blanket exemption to Zimbabwean nationals entering South Africa in the 2000s was a policy decision based on the issues in the neighbouring country at the time.
Similarly, the decision to not create a further exemption was also based on policy, which he said was based on rational reasons that included budgetary constraints, improvements in conditions in Zimbabwe, and a backlog in the asylum system.
The decision was also placed under the spotlight on whether Motsoaledi terminated the ZEP or if it expired because of the effluxion of time.
It was argued the minister did not decide to terminate the ZEP but extended its validity to help holders get their affairs in order.
Motsoaledi said this decision did not remove the rights of ZEP holders but rather conferred them.
This argument also centred around whether the court challenge was premature as the extension granted has yet to expire.
Jamie conceded Motsoaledi did not decide to create another exemption and said this was not a legal decision but a policy one.
He reiterated there was no legal obligation to create the blanket exemption in the first place, nor the exemptions that followed, and ultimately ended with the ZEP, which was set to expire at the end of 2021.
The foundation took the matter to court, seeking a declaration of invalidity and that Motsoaledi’s decision be reviewed and set aside. News24

Rape Accused Jacaranda Media Group Boss Trying To Cause Arrest Of Victim

By A Correspondent| Rape accused Jacaranda Media Group co-director and United Kingdom based businessman Charles Guvamatanga (43) is accused of trying to cause the arrest of his victim (17) claiming that she drugged and raped him.

Despite being out on bail after his court appearance last week, Guvamatanga also known as Torro is allegedly boasting that he will not face any consequences and is even considering fleeing to the United Kingdom, as his passport was not confiscated by the court.

The victim’s lawyer Admire Rubaya of Rubaya and Chatambudza Legal Practitioners has written a letter to the police Commissioner General, Godwin Matanga, expressing concern about some officers who are seeking to arrest the girl which he believe is interfering with a rape victim.

The letter in possession of ZimEye, was also copied to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), ZRP Victim Friendly Unit and Prosecutor General’s office.

According to the letter, the victim now feels unsafe due to Guvamatanga’s threats.

“Our client lodged a criminal complaint against Charles Guvamatanga to the effect that she had been raped as clearly set out in the Request for Remand.

“It is pertinent to highlight that the Accused person (Toro) deflowered the complainant a minor child through his criminal conduct of having sexual intercourse with the minor child in the absence of consent from the minor child,” the letter reads.

It is their argument that Toro wants to use the report to evade being held to account and use it as a card during trial that he was the one who was violated.

“Unashamedly and in a bid to diffuse the charges of rape that he is currently facing, the rape-accused person, Charles Guvamatanga proceeded to lodge a clearly false counter report that he had been drugged by the child and that it was the minor child who allegedly forced herself onto him in the process she got herself deflowered.

“This is just unthinkable that a minor child would drug a 43-year-old man for purpose of indecently assaulting him, which can be loosely called “male rape” within social circles,” the letter reads.

The lawyers have questioned the logic behind the accusations that a minor would drug a 43-year-old to have herself deflowered then report him to the police.

“As unbelievable as it is that a virgin minor child would drag a 43-year-old man for purpose of “raping” him, it would be absurd for our client to have proceeded to make an immediate complaint to the first available sympathetic witness that she had been raped by the Accused person.

“Our client asserts that the accused is boasting that he is connected at the top and thus he is never going to be held accountable with the complainant being turned into the real accused person consequent to the counter report.

“The minor child, who happens to be the real victim of rape, is now being harassed under the guise of investigating the counter-report lodged by Charles Guvamatanga. Our client is worried that the accused person Charles Guvamatanga intends to use the alleged criminal complaint against her to emasculate himself out of the criminal charges of rape that he is now facing.

The lawyers said one sergeant Potoriro is seeking to arrest the girl, calling her to the police station despite being told that the minor is ill after the incident.

“In the circumstances, if our client is arrested and recorded a warned and cautioned statement, the accused person will definitely use that in his favour during the rape trial alleging that our client, the complainant, was the real culprit. Additionally, our client is at a loss as to whether it is now a ZRP policy to investigate counter reports lodged by Accused persons who seek to evade criminal rape charges. It is our considered view that the Victim Friendly Unit was introduced to protect victims of sexually related offences and not to abuse and or harass the same victims.

“Please note that our client believes that the criminal justice system in Zimbabwe is designed to protect real victims of crime and anyone who is alleged to have committed a crime ought to be investigated and prosecuted.

“However, it seems as if Charles Guvamatanga believes that he is one person who should not be held accountable by the law,” the letter reads

Arsenal Star Rejects Zim

Arsenal star Reiss Nelson has categorically stated that he does not have any Zimbabwean roots, contrary to popular belief.

The 23-year-old, born to a Zimbabwean father and a British mother, has not represented England at senior level, hence he is eligible to play for Zimbabwe and can pick the Warriors ahead of the Three Lions.

Over the years, there has been a lot of speculation of the possibility of Nelson being persuaded to switch allegiances, having played for the England junior teams.

But speaking on the Arsenal weekly show Colney Carpool yesterday, Nelson says contrary to popular belief, he does not have any Zimbabwean roots.

“People think I’m from Zimbabwe, and I had a lot of speculation about where I’m from and staff like that because I have never really come out and and say ‘I’m from this place’ yeah,” said Nelson.

“I’m actually from Jamaica, my mom is from Jamaica,” he added.

Nelson’s remark will probably end any hopes of the start ever donning the gold and green Warriors strip.- Soccer24 News

Real Madrid Dismiss Chelsea

What You Need To Know About First Aid

Compiled by Dr Ellane Simon

First aid should can be offered by anyone but ideally trained personnel to give first aid should offer first aid. When offering first aid always consider your personal safety first. Look out for any dangers and only act when you are confident it is safe to do so.
An unresponsive person is someone not moving or responding when you call them or when gently shaken.

Respiratory emergencies & CPR

  1. Check if breathing by tilting their head back and looking and feeling for breaths.

When a person is unresponsive, their muscles relax and their tongue can block their airway so they can no longer breathe. Tilting their head back opens the airway by pulling the tongue forward. If they are breathing, you will see their chest moving and you may hear their breath or feel it on your cheek. If breathing, move on to step two.

  1. Move them onto their side and tilt their head back. Putting them in this position with their head back helps keep their airway open. It ensures their tongue falls forward and blood and vomit drain out. It is sometimes called the “recovery position”.
  2. Call for help or an ambulance as soon as possible.
  3. If the patient needs CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation), place the person on their back on a firm, flat surface and start giving chest compressions aiming for 30compressions in 1minute.
    How to do CPR
Hand position: Two hands centered on the chest
Body position: Shoulders directly over hands; elbows locked
    Depth: At least 5cm
Allow chest to return to normal position after every chest compression.

5 Give 2 rescue breaths (if equipment to do that available). Ensure each breath lasts about 1 second and makes the chest rise; allow air to exit before giving the next breath.

Gas leak, Fire & Burns

  1. Turn off gas if safe to do
  2. Evacuate the area immediately
  3. Do not switch any lights or start an open flame
  4. If there is fire use a fire extinguisher to stop the fire from spreading and ring the fire alarm alerting everyone to evacuate the building.
  5. If someone is on fire remove the person from the source of fire, drop and roll him or her over or cover him or her with a fire blanket.
  6. Cool burn under running water
  7. Protect the burn with sterile, non-adhesive bandage (DO NOT APPLY BUTTER OR OINTMENTS)
  8. Do not break blisters
  9. Call for an ambulance and send to hospital

Chemical spill

  1. Remove spoiled clothing
  2. If skin or eyes affected rinse immediately with clean running water
  3. If ingested do not induce vomiting and do not give water or mi unless told to d so by a health professional.
  4. If inhaled move the person to fresh air and give oxygen if available.
  5. After first aid is given send to hospital as soon as possible.

We Will Fix Economy – President Chamisa

No Short Cuts In Mining

Mr Mnangagwa Can’t Think Beyond Winning Polls- President Chamisa

Illegal Gold Panners Nabbed In South Africa

By A Correspondent- South African police on Tuesday arrested 41 Zimbabweans, one Mozambican and one South African for illegally mining chrome ore worth more than R1 million in Mecklenburg, Limpopo province.

In addition to breaking mining laws, the Zimbabweans and Mozambican have also been charged with illegally entering South Africa.

The gang was arrested in Ga-Pasha village as security authorities intensify the crackdown on illegal miners. Equipment worth over R170 000 was seized.

Chrome ore has become a target of mining gangs including South Africans, Mozambicans, Zimbabweans and sometimes Pakistani nationals in Limpopo province.

Authorities intensified the illegal mining crackdown following the recent death of 11 Mozambicans, Zimbabweans and South Africans in the province.

These died when an illegal mining shaft they were working in collapsed during heavy rains.

Limpopo police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Malasela Ledwaba said the provincial illegal mining task team was out in full force.

Zanu PF is rigging 2023 and CCC and povo are participating out of greed and ignorance. It’s insane!

By Wilbert Mukori-  Zanu PF is rigging the 2023 elections. There will be no verified voters’ roll, no free public media, 3 million Zimbabweans in the diaspora will be denied the vote, thousands of rural voters will be frogmarched to vote for Zanu PF, etc., etc.

Why is Zanu PF rigging the 2023 elections?

Robert Mugabe and his Zanu PF friends have alway believed they had the right to rule Zimbabwe, right of conquest, as the party that defeated the white colonial regime in the war of independence. And what better way to secure that right than by rigging the elections.

The longer Zanu PF has stayed in power the more it has become obvious to the people that the party leaders were corrupt, incompetent and murderous thugs and therefore not fit to rule. And so to retain power the party has resorted to more and more ruthless vote rigging measures including the capture of state institutions; bribing officials, critics and opposition; and use of wanton violence. There is already a mountain of evidence to prove that Zanu PF is rigging the 2023 elections.

The people of Zimbabwe have risked life and limb to elect MDC/CCC leaders on the understanding they would implemented the necessary democratic change to end the Zanu PF dictatorship.

Alas! After 23 year, 5 of which in the GNU MDC/CCC leaders have failed to implement even one democratic reform. Worse still, since the GNU debacle, MDC/CCC have participated in the flawed elections to give Zanu PF legitimacy and thus perpetuating the dictatorship.

What is really infuriating about MDC/CCC leader is that they know the sheer futility of participating in these flawed elections and yet continue doing it out of greed, as David Coltart admitted.

“The worst aspect for me about the failure to agree a coalition was that both MDCs couldn’t now do the obvious – withdraw from the (2013) elections,” confessed Coltart in his Book, The Struggle Continues 50 years of Tyranny in Zimbabwe.

“The electoral process was so flawed, so illegal, that the only logical step was to withdraw, which would compel SADC to hold Zanu PF to account. But such was the distrust between the MDC-T and MDC-N that neither could withdraw for fear that the other would remain in the elections, winning seats and giving the process credibility.”

Coltart was an MDC-N Minister in the 2008 to 2013 GNU and is the Treasurer General in the CCC.

So Zanu PF are rigging these elections and denying the millions of Zimbabweans the fundamental right to a meaningful say in the governance of the country because the party cannot risk losing its iron grip on power by holding free, fair and credible elections. MDC/CCC sold out on reforms and are selling out now by participating in flawed elections to perpetuate the Zanu PF dictatorship because Chamisa and et al are corrupt and breathtakingly incompetent.

Why are the ordinary Zimbabwean participating in these flawed elections to give Zanu PF legitimacy?

The Zimbabwe populous can be divided into two groups;

those who are politically powerless to stop the Zanu PF dictatorship, whether or not they understand what is going on is irrelevant. Zanu PF leaders have retained the coercive power from the liberation war days and abusing the state security services. The rural folk are as helpless as medieval serfs under their Zanu PF operative landlords. When you are looking up the business end of an AK47 rifle, it is unwise to argue.

the urban voters are not, as a rule, under the Zanu PF yoke, they should be better informed but, alas, they are not. It is disheartening that many urban voters have no clue the primary purpose of the 2008 to 2013 GNU was to implement reforms much less that MDC sold out, for example. Chamisa and company have conned them into believing in the oxymoronic nonsense of “winning rigged elections” even after 43 years of Zanu PF rigging and winning these elections.

Zimbabwe is a failed state because we have a corrupt, incompetent and tyrannical ruling party whose leaders believe they have the right to rule regardless of their disastrous 43 years in power track record. Our political situation has been made worse by the MDC/CCC who have wasted the many golden opportunities implement the democratic reforms and end the dictatorship. The sell-out are now participating in the flawed election to keep Zanu PF in power for a share of the spoils of power. And to crown it all we have politically and/or intellectually powerless electorate to demand their right to a meaningful say in the governance of the country.

Zanu PF is rigging the 2023 elections and both CCC and the populous are once again, for the umpteenth time in 43 year, foolishly participating to give Zanu PF legitimacy out of greed and ignorance respectively. Of course, this is inane; the more so since we should have, by now, proscribed any effective cure to the tyrannical zeal, to the insatiable greed and to the ignorance born out of mental idleness!

Zimbabwe is a failed state and until cure ourselves of the curse of rigged elections and bad governance this nation will continue to sink deeper and deeper into this hell-on-earth Zanu PF has landed us in. Those who will not learn from the past are destined to repeat the same mistakes and pay dearly with each repeat until they learn!

Sticky Fingered Councilor Steals Chickens

By A Correspondent- Ward 22 Councillor, Theresa Manase, appeared at the Epworth Magistrates’ Court yesterday on theft charges involving 1 955 chickens.

She was remanded to April 20 for trial commencement.

The court heard that between February 28 and March 21, Amiel Gonesi had a poultry project at Manase’s premises.

Gonesi’s employees were, however, chased away by Manase and she took the keys from them, leaving the chickens unattended.

On March 20, Gonesi and his employees went to the fowl run to take stock of the chickens and they discovered that 1 955 were missing.

Gonesi also found out that Manase had slaughtered the chickens without his consent, and they were recovered from her fridge.

She allegedly admitted to selling 15 chickens but didn’t hand over the money.

The total value of chickens stolen was $10 992 000 and only $203 352 was recovered

Man In Soup Over Macheso Show

By A Correspondent- The love for music has landed a 38-year-old man from Sunninghill suburb in Bulawayo in trouble after he allegedly assaulted his wife with an unknown object all over her body after she refused to give him money to attend an Alick Macheso show.

The sungura musician performed at Parkview Pub and Grill in the city on Friday last week.

Circumstances are that on 31 March and at around 7pm, Trymore Madzungaire went to his wife Portia Mapfunga (38)’s vending stall and demanded money so that he could go to the music show.

Mapfunga reportedly refused to give him money and out of anger he left.

Later at around 9pm, the seemingly frustrated Madzungaire then decided to “fix” his wife, when he went on to lock her inside the house and switched off the lights.

Madzungaire then started hitting his wife with an unknown object several times all over the body.

The matter was reported to the police leading to his arrest.

Mnangagwa Determined To Revive Economy ?

Government is leaving no stone unturned in the implementation of the National Development Strategy One to ensure inclusive development in line with the objectives of Vision 2030.

Moving with the Second Republic’s mantra of leaving no one and no place behind, the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development is engaging communities and at the same time updating them on progress made in the implementation of the National Development Strategy 1.

The implementation of devolution programmes was topical during an engagement with the Chivi community this Tuesday.

This comes at a time road, schools and clinics are being constructed around the country using devolution funds.

“We are excited by the developments we are witnessing in our communities, schools are being built and roads constructed. However, we are recommending timely disbursement of Devolution funds,” said a resident.

“Here in rural communities we are having challenges with some shops refusing to trade in local currency, again exchange rate is not stable we would want the government to deal with people or businesses engaging in the parallel markets,” added another resident.

The Deputy Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Honourable Clemence Chiduwa gave an insight into measures taken by the government to ensure development.

Honorable Chiduwa said, “We are moving around engaging communities on the implementation of National Development Strategy 1. Here in Chivi, it was an interactive session. 41 Illegal Zim Miners Arrested In SA

South African police on Tuesday arrested 41 Zimbabweans, one Mozambican and one South African for illegally mining chrome ore worth more than R1 million in Mecklenburg, Limpopo province.

“The 42 foreign nationals and one South African citizen are expected to appear before the Mecklenburg Magistrate’s court tomorrow (Thursday) facing charges of illegal mining and contravention of the Immigration Act,” said Lt Col Ledwaba.

“The suspects were apprehended during a joint intelligence operation conducted by the members of the provincial illegal mining task team, provincial organised crime unit together with the RR Undercover Security Company at Ga-Phasha village under Sefateng mine jurisdiction in Mecklenburg policing precinct at about 11.30pm on Tuesday evening”.

He said the police swiftly reacted to information about illegal mining activities taking place in the area. The police found the suspects busy mining chrome ore at the mine without authorisation.

He said the suspects ran away and hid in the nearby bush and a small tunnel.

“The scene was cordoned off and 43 suspects were ultimately apprehended,” said Lt Col Ledwaba.

“In addition, the police confiscated 12 generators and 10 jackhammers valued at R170 000 and chrome ore estimated to be worth more than R1 million.

“The male suspects aged between 18 and 43 are 41 undocumented Zimbabweans, one Mozambican National and one South African citizen”.

Limpopo provincial police commander, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe said they will stop at nothing in ensuring that the perpetrators of crimes are arrested.

She said the operation to stop illegal mining was continuing across the province.

The incident comes a few months after four Zimbabweans were among the 21 suspected illegal miners whose bodies were discovered in a mineshaft in Krugersdorp, Gauteng, South Africa in November last year.

In September 2021, South African emergency workers retrieved 11 bodies of Zimbabweans who died after a generator they were using in a disused underground mine exploded in Benoni, some 35km outside Johannesburg.

It is understood that the group which included 15 people, among them Zimbabweans and Mozambicans, entered the mine on August 27 of the same year and were using the generator for lighting and drilling.

The group reportedly died of suffocation while a few who managed to escape made a report to the police.

The mine is located in the Springs area of Benoni.- state media

ZRP Cop’s Minor Child Vanishes

Two police officers who were married but are now on separation are failing to account for their minor child’s whereabouts, in a mysterious case that has raised suspicion of murder.

The child was one year and eight months old when she was last seen at the couple’s former residence in Mabvuku over three years ago.

Curiously, the couple has not filed a missing person report with relatives and neighbours, also professing ignorance on the whereabouts of the child.

Samunderu Muchazepi and Agness Khoza, who are both constables with the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) have since been arrested after failing to give a satisfactory explanation on the whereabouts of their child. Criminal Investigation Department (CID) (Homicide) are still investigating the case before the State prepares an appropriate charge pending the couple’s expected court appearance.

It is alleged that on an unknown date in February 2020, Khoza was deployed to Zvishavane and left her daughter in the custody of the father Muchazepi although they had been on separation since December 2019.

Khoza returned from Zvishavane after a month and Muchazepi could not give a plausible explanation on the whereabouts of the couple’s daughter.

Neighbours noticed that something was amiss and an unknown informant tipped off the police who interrogated the couple.

They couple could still not give a satisfactory explanation on the whereabouts of their child and suspicion was raised that they might have murdered her and concealed the death.

Muchazepi and Khoza were taken to ZRP Ruwa from where they were taken to CID Homicide for further management.-state media

Jailed MP Candidate

The bail hearing application for the aspiring member of Parliament for Makoni West Moses Ruwona and his accomplice Macmillan Chiweshe, who are allegedly involved in a US$500 000 fraud case, was yesterday postponed to today.
The pair allegedly issued a fake receipts of payments to a local telecommunications firm and a financial services company.

The State led by Mr Pardon Dziva asked for postponement to allow the investigation officer to testify. Ruwona appeared before Harare magistrate Mr Stanford Mambanje charged with fraud.

Prosecuting, Mr Pardon Dziva alleged that sometime in December last year, the complainant Aubrey Chademana was awarded a contract by Liquid Telecommunications Holdings (Pvt) Limited in Zimbabwe to supply outdoor WiFi routers.

Chademana was supposed to import WiFi routers from Liquid Telecommunication Holdings in Mauritius.

Mr Dziva further alleged that on December 8, Chademana engaged Ruwona who undertook to settle the payment using his offshore foreign currency account.

On the same day, Chiweshe received US$630 400 from the Chademana and forwarded it to Ruwona to settle the bill.

Ruwona reportedly provided a fake proof of payment document claiming to have transferred the money from his account in Zambia to Liquid Telecommunications Mauritius’ Standard Bank.

On January 20, 2023, Ruwona and Chiweshe again sent the complainant another fake proof of payment. They did the same on February 3.

On February 15, they sent a proof of payment of US$426 420 and on February 17, they sent a proof of payment of US$203 910.

On March 7, they successfully transferred US$280 332 and US$132 151.24 to Liquid Telecommunications Mauritius, but failed to account for the remaining US$218 249.

Using the same modus operandi, they allegedly defrauded Assess Finance of US$256 000 in a deal to import some fabric material.

The complainant reported the matter to the police leading to the arrest of the two accused persons.-state media

SA Defends Decision On Zim Permits

Home Affairs Minister Aaron Motsoaledi’s decision not to create a further exemption programme for around 178 000 Zimbabwean nationals living in South Africa does not take away their rights – it confers them.
This was one of the arguments by Motsoaledi and the Department of Home Affairs’ director-general in a court challenge by the Helen Suzman Foundation which is being heard in the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria.

The foundation took the matter to court, seeking a declaration of invalidity and that Motsoaledi’s decision be reviewed and set aside.— News24

Will Mnangagwa’s National Development Strategy Work?

We updated that more than 18 billion dollars under devolution were released in the first quarter and on issues around the black market the government has taken a tough stance that we are going blacklist all companies and its subsidiaries involved in parallel market dealings.”

Under NDS 1 Masvingo is earmarked for agricultural development given the abundant water resources in the province.

“The government is working on a number of dams in Masvingo including Tende Runde such that we establish irrigation schemes. We are targeting more than 70 000 hectares of land to be put under irrigation,” asserted Masvingo Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister, Honorable Ezra Chadzamira.

Projects mentioned include Bwanya Clinic, Tugwi Mukosi Secondary, Chombwe pipe water scheme, Rubweruchena Secondary and Tende Runde Dam to mention a few.
