Jones had to bring Chitembwe and the fans voiced their concerns over the team’s performance.
“Firstly, we are aware that the players were not being paid, but we then read that all their outstanding salaries were paid in full. If that is not the case then please tell me,” one fan said to Chitembwe, before the coach asked him what his point was.
“My point is when we play a small team like Yadah, it’s unacceptable for CAPS to not even register a single shot on target, considering these players wanted money and were given.
“Do these lads want to play for CAPS United or they have some kind of an agenda? Do they want our team to be relegated? We have been patient with them, we know they were not being paid but now it’s a different case so we expect better.
“We cannot let our team sink, we have been patient with these players,” said the fan.
Another fan weighed in and also questioned the commitment of Chitembwe’s charges.
“Coach, my input is we want to see these players, for them to explain to us what the problem really is. They should simply tell us if they still want to play for CAPS United or not,” he said.

Change champions in Namibia were quite exhilarated to meet their vibrant and diligent interim Vice President Lynette Karenyi Kore on Sunday. Citizens who reside in Windhoek, Northern, and Rundu converged at Katutura Youth Centre to hear an inspiring and mouth-watering revolutionary message. The message was very clear! Change champions were encouraged to go and register to vote, vote in 2023, and defend the vote against rigging.
The enthusiastic crowd was advised to partner with their rural constituencies ahead of the 2023 general elections. Since voting is part of independence, citizens were reminded to voice up through voting. Champion Kore went on to urge citizens in the diaspora to give moral, material, and financial support to the foot soldiers on the ground. Mobilization, recruitment, and radicalization of citizens in the diaspora remained key in her address. Change champions expressed their great zeal to win Zimbabwe for change. Voting big and winning big was the only panacea for socio-economic transfiguration in the motherland.
Residents in Namibia vowed to embrace participatory democracy. They guaranteed their commitment and dedication to the change that delivers. Change champions exhibited their unwavering support for the movement led by the organic leader, President Advocate Nelson Chamisa.
Namibia district has already set the ball swiveling since they committed to offering material and financial support to Uzumba. It’s key to assisting our change champions to register to vote and participate in the national discourse. Citizens were quick to disclose that it was not their choice to cross two borders in search of bread and butter.
Change champions are now tired of selling brooms and cockroach poison in the streets of Namibia hence the dire need to fight tooth-to-nail until democracy is delivered to our doorsteps. All Zimbabweans in the diaspora deserted the motherland because of gross misgovernance, senseless and bare-faced corruption as well as high levels of unemployment. Citizens are scratching their heads for a single nutritious meal per day. As both political and economic refugees, residents are committed to working with those on the ground-from family, friends, and the generality of the community to usher in a complete change in Zimbabwe.
Social Democrats in Namibia assured the provisional Vice President that they are ready to surrender themselves before they surrender the national democratic project. Citizens also condemned the continued incarceration of Hon Job Saro Wiwa Sikhala, Godfrey Sithole and the Nyatsime 14. Spending more than 100 days languishing in the hell-hole of Chikurubi Maximum Prison for demanding justice for Moreblessing Ali is unacceptable and unconstitutional. Citizens Coalition for Change Namibia demands the immediate release of innocent change seekers.
It was also sad to note the perpetual state-sponsored violence in Masvingo, Gutu Mpandawana. Councilor Benard Chimwango and Langton Guvava were severely assaulted during Mugwazo in Gutu. Reports are clear that the same ZANU-PF thugs who butchered our change champion Nyasha Zhambe last year continue to terrorize our people with impunity.May his dear soul rest in power. It is one’s democratic right to participate in Mugwazo, the political freedoms are enshrined in the constitution of 2013. It is now imperative to defend our membership from these marauding ZANU-PF thugs. Defending ourselves from terror should never be mistaken for violence.
Citizens in Namibia shall continue to embrace mugwazo as a sure and effective way of recruiting and mobilizing voters for change in 2023. Champion Kore emphasized the desire to take part in the national processes regardless of geographical location. Change champions expressed their worry about possible rigging by ZANUPF in 2023 but the Vp assured the citizens that the people’s party shall ensure that it has polling agents all over the breadth and length of Zimbabwe. She reiterated that the party polling agents should have the varlour, nerve, and mettle to defend the vote.
The party is committed to deploying sober-minded change champions ready to lose their last drop of sweat and blood defending the voice of the people. She made it clear that change champions should not give any room for the manipulation of the vote by the ZANU-PF election fraudsters. Citizens were encouraged to sacrifice for the party not to target payment for protecting the vote as party agents. Change champions should embrace dangerous freedom against peaceful slavery to win Zimbabwe for change. Those who want to work for remuneration have no place in our polling stations.

Signs and symptoms
Dementia affects each person in a different way, depending upon the underlying causes, other health conditions and the person’s cognitive functioning before becoming ill. The signs and symptoms linked to dementia can be understood in three stages.
Early stage: the early stage of dementia is often overlooked because the onset is gradual. Common symptoms may include:
forgetfulness
losing track of the time
becoming lost in familiar places.
Middle stage: as dementia progresses to the middle stage, the signs and symptoms become clearer and may include:
becoming forgetful of recent events and people’s names
becoming confused while at home
having increasing difficulty with communication
needing help with personal care
experiencing behaviour changes, including wandering and repeated questioning
Late stage: the late stage of dementia is one of near total dependence and inactivity. Memory disturbances are serious and the physical signs and symptoms become more obvious and may include:
becoming unaware of the time and place
having difficulty recognizing relatives and friends
having an increasing need for assisted self-care
having difficulty walking
experiencing behaviour changes that may escalate and include aggression.
Common forms of dementia
There are many different forms of dementia. Alzheimer’s disease is the most common form and may contribute to 60-70% of cases. Other major forms include vascular dementia, dementia with Lewy bodies (abnormal aggregates of protein that develop inside nerve cells), and a group of diseases that contribute to frontotemporal dementia (degeneration of the frontal lobe of the brain). Dementia may also develop after a stroke or in the context of certain infections such as HIV, harmful use of alcohol, repetitive physical injuries to the brain (known as chronic traumatic encephalopathy) or nutritional deficiencies. The boundaries between different forms of dementia are indistinct and mixed forms often co-exist.
Rates of dementia
Worldwide, around 55 million people have dementia, with over 60% living in low- and middle-income countries. As the proportion of older people in the population is increasing in nearly every country, this number is expected to rise to 78 million in 2030 and 139 million in 2050.
Risk factors and prevention
Although age is the strongest known risk factor for dementia, it is not an inevitable consequence of biological ageing. Further, dementia does not exclusively affect older people – young onset dementia (defined as the onset of symptoms before the age of 65 years) accounts for up to 9% of cases. Studies show that people can reduce their risk of cognitive decline and dementia by being physically active, not smoking, avoiding harmful use of alcohol, controlling their weight, eating a healthy diet, and maintaining healthy blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar levels. Additional risk factors include depression, social isolation, low educational attainment, cognitive inactivity and air pollution.

There is internecine strife in the Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) party amid claims top official, Charlton Hwende, is planning to impose his preferred candidates to contest the 2023 harmonised elections.
The reportedly well-resourced politician, who has lately been conspicuous by his absence at CCC leader Nelson Chamisa’s recent rallies, is said to be fomenting factionalism following a claimed fallout with erstwhile benefactor and principal, Chamisa.
A CCC parliamentarian who confided in NewZimbabwe.com, said Hwende was lining up local government and House of Assembly candidates to wrestle the right to represent CCC in next year’s polls, a development which is threatening a protest vote known in political parlance as Bhora Musango.
Those eyeing legislative seats, includes Hwende’s close confidante, Mutsa Murombedzi, who is a female youth assembly member from Chegutu East constituency.
At the behest of Hwende, she is reportedly positioning herself to contest the Mhondoro-Mubaira parliament seat currently held by Zanu-PF’s Freddy Kapuya.
CCC supporters are threatening to not vote for Murombedzi if her candidature sails through.
“Besides, Mutsa Murombedzi is from Chegutu East and is not popular,” said a party insider.
“She has no clout or capacity to stand against the incumbent Zanu-PF candidate.
“Hon Hwende is bullying the electorate and this has potential to brew bhora musango (protest vote) against CCC in 2023.”
When contacted for comment, Hwende was evasive, preferring to accuse this journalist of practicing brown envelope journalism.
“Musaite zvema brown envelopes (don’t accept bribes),” Hwende quipped.
Pressed further, the former students’ leader turned transporter, said: (Responding) is to dignify your story; I have no comment you can write what you want.”
Contacted for comment, Murombedzi initially promised to respond to questions sent through her WhatsApp number, but had not done so by the time of publishing. Later, she was not picking subsequent calls to her mobile phone.
CCC leader Chamisa recently sparked a Twitter war after apparently questioning reference to Hwende as CCC secretary general, insisting the party did not have such a position.
Established in January this year, the party has yet to hold an elective congress with crunch general elections due next year.
Its activists have dismissed criticism over the absence of a Constitution, and an organisational structure, saying CCC was a citizens’ movement.
It has also previously been indicated that the leadership that was in place in its former guise as the MDC Alliance would continue to hold their positions on an interim basis.
However, Chamisa questioned reference to Hwende as secretary general, insisting that “we have no such titles in the citizens movement, we are all change champions”.
The comment, made on Twitter, was later deleted but reportedly did not sit well with Hwende who has in recent weeks snubbed Chamisa’s rallies.

Transform Zimbabwe leader Jacob Ngarivhume has demanded the opposition to mount a strong response to the escalating cases of corruption saying endless questions around the silence of CCC leader Nelson Chamisa does not mean he hates him.

Good morning Zimbabwe. We need to have a mature conversation about what we in the opposition are doing. I don’t hate Nelson Chamisa as some would suggest and I am not a Zanu PF dark agent.
My posture is that of strength and not weakness. When we cower, the enemy gets bolder. Lawfare in this country is at an all-time high, corruption has exploded to unheard of levels.
A strong response from the opposition is the only way to slowdown these trends. Now more than ever as citizens we must project strength to save this country.
We need to stop playing politics and apply rational thinking, something the regime dreads. As citizens we must draw a line in the sand marking a boundary that can no longer be crossed without consequences.
Emmerson Mnangagwa needs to know that he is not a king. He is bound by our laws and the constitution like everyone else. He is not above the law, and he is not the law.
We need to stop the noise and start solving problems looking at root causes and not symptoms. This means going to the very institutions that are failing to perform their functions as prescribed by the constitution and holding those responsible for those failures accountable.
Prominent lawyer, Advocate Tabani Mpofu is in Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (Zacc)’s crosshairs following allegations that he received “an inducement” from accused persons to conceal racism and human rights abuse allegations in a case where he was chairing an independent inquiry.
The allegations arose after Norton legislator Temba Mliswa (Independent) wrote a letter on February 18, 2020, to the Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission (ZHRC) chairperson Elasto Mugwadi calling on him to intervene in the impasse between the workers of a mining company Breckridge Investments, a subsidiary of Dallaglio Investments, and the chief executive officer Mike Fowler along with chief finance officer Joseph Crnkovic.
Mliswa in his letter indicated that his role was “to receive and consider complaints of the public and to protect people from abuse of power”.
He told Mugwadi that he had been approached by workers of the gold mine in Chegutu, who told him of racial, emotional and moral abuse involving current and former employees against Fowler and Crnkovic.
Mpofu was then appointed to head an independent tribunal to look into the matter.
But according to Crnkovic, he was then told by his boss, Matthew Hossack, that he was going to face the tribunal alone.
Crnkovic was being represented by the company’s legal practitioners, Promethious Law/Lunga and Partners and his legal fees were paid by the company, while the workers were represented by Marufu Mandevere.
Crnkovic then received an email from Zweli Lunga, a partner in Promethious Law/Lunga and Partners requesting him to pay US$5 000 to the law firm for onward transmission to Mpofu.
The US$5 000 was allegedly transferred to Mpofu’s personal account held at Nedbank.
In the email submitted to the Law Society of Zimbabwe (LSZ) and Zacc as an exhibit from Mpofu to Hossack, Crnkovic, stated that: “Dear Matt, I have completed my task and this is my report. The necessary fees have been agreed with Zweli. The report has not been given to the employee.”
It is alleged that on May 27, 2020, Crnkovic received an email from Lunga which showed the fee that Mpofu had billed Lunga referencing Bleckridge Investments.
Crnkovic indicated that there was no tribunal held for Fowler, who was primarily the accused person.
In a statement to Zacc, Crnkovic said the issue was exacerbated by a case where he is representing Fopuld Investments, a plaintiff against Evolution Group trading as Glen Forest Memorial Cemetery, where Mpofu is also representing the defendant.
“I am now representing Fopuld Investments, who is plaintiff against Evolution Group trading as Glen Forest Memorial Cemetery, where Advocate Mpofu is representing the defendant. Certain events led me to suspect Advocate Mpofu of corruption in this case, but I have no evidence yet,” Crnkovic submitted to Zacc.
“The payment received by advocate Mpofu was a financial inducement for him to convince the employees that Fowler did not need to be looked into or the US$5 000 was a payment to advocate Mpofu for the tribunal to be non-independent.
“Advocate Mpofu acted corruptly when he received US$5 000 for work done in which the employees were convinced they were getting a fair hearing. How could a hearing be fair if both the company’s lawyers were representing me and Advocate Mpofu was also being paid by the same company? Why was an independent tribunal never held into Fowler when he was accused by Mliswa just like me? It is my belief that the US$5 000 was a bribe from the company as agreed by Hossack and Advocate Mpofu. The purpose of the bribe was to cause Advocate Mpofu to not look into Fowler, and also to convince the employees and myself that we were facing a fair hearing, which is not true,” the statement read.
Crnkovic said it was his belief that there was clear corruption between Hossack and Mpofu.
The case was allocated case number RRB003547 at Zacc and the investigating officer, Takunda Mulambo, is reportedly seized with the matter.
The LSZ also wrote to Mpofu seeking an explanation over the matter.
“I enclose herewith a letter of complaint received from the above-named. In the attached complaint, it is alleged that you executed your mandate in a corrupt manner. In terms of the LSZ by-laws, you are required to reply to the substance of the complaint in writing within 14 days. Kindly note that your failure to respond within the stipulated timeframe will result in negative inferences being drawn from your failure to respond and the matter would be forwarded to the Disciplinary and Ethics Committee without further reference to you,” LSZ executive secretary Edward Mapara said.
There are indications that Mpofu had made a report to LSZ that there were people who were out to extort him.
Mpofu could not be reached for comment, but an official familiar with the case said: “Mpofu could not, as a disciplinary authority, go outside his terms of reference and neither could he demand more people to be tried than given. That would amount to touting. Besides, it is plainly illogical. So this complainant is saying Mpofu should have inquired into the conduct of Fowler. Why would he do that? And that Mpofu should not have been paid for his work?
“How could Breckridge bribe Mpofu so that Fowler is not tried? Mpofu had no authority over Fowler and Breckridge did not have to bribe Mpofu as claimed. So this executive was happy being acquitted by Mpofu and for two years, he was content only to come back now?”

Chimombe who is part of President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s parallel structures was reportedly resisting arrest by uniformed officers, forcing CID to storm in.
Chimombe had a fallout with the owner of AAG, Phillip Chiyangwa before he left to form his own splinter group called Economic Empowerment Group (EEG) together with Scot Sakupwanya, Passion Java among others.

By-A group of pro-Zanu PF pastors, claiming to be spearheading President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s 2023 re-election campaign, are ambushing church leaders to recruit them to their movement.
The outfit known as Pastors 4ED is led by Zibagwe Rural District Council (RDC) ward 30 councillor and evangelist Idirashe Dongo.
Zibagwe is Mnangagwa’s home district. In a wide ranging interview, Dongo who is currently in Sweden, said they wanted every pastor in the country to join the grouping in support of Mnangagwa.
“It consists of all pastors, even those in the diaspora irrespective of their churches,” Dongo told The Standard.
“We don’t want to leave any pastor or church behind from the Pentecostal, Protestants, apostolic sects and reformed churches.”
She said they have a duty to campaign for Mnangagwa.
“It was inspired by the president himself.When we saw him visiting churches, building up relationships we said to ourselves, can we take it up and reach out to every head of church or administrators.
“He can’t go to every church in Zimbabwe.”
Mnangagwa has been visiting various churches as he targets the votes of the clergy in 2023.
“We have finished organising national structures and provincial structures are almost complete,” Dongo said.
“Manicaland Province finished with the districts and is now going to constituencies.
“Until we reach ward level, we want to account for every pastor. We want to understand their relationship with the president.
“If you read Romans 13: 1 to 6 says everyone including the church are subjects to the kings of the land.
“We want to create that relationship. The king and the prophets must walk hand in hand.”
Some pastors speaking on condition of anonymity told The Standard that they were being added into Pastors 4ED WhatsApp platforms without their consent.
“I found myself being added to a group Pastors 4ED Midlands Province.
“Anyone known to be a church leader is added unknowingly and instructed to tell congregants to support Mnangagwa in the forthcoming 2023 elections,” a United Methodist Church pastor from Gweru said.

Zanu PF political commissar Mike Bimha was coy when contacted for a comment on the alleged parallel structures spearheading Mnangagwa’s re-election campaign.
“I don’t know where that (concern over parallel structures) is coming from and those are not parallel structures,” Bhima said.
“These are movements and associations, not structures of the party. Our structures are main wing, women’s league, youth league and war veterans.”

By James Gwati-A Zanu PF vigilante grouping #Varakashi has launched an offensive search for the opposition CCC supporters in Gokwe.
Varakashi announced the launch of the violent search during a President Emmerson Mnangagwa solidarity march in Mutare at the weekend.
The group said they would vet all Gokwe- Kabuyuni villagers searching for those who voted for the losing CCC candidate Costin Muguti.
Zanu PF’s Spencer Tshuma won the seat in a by-election held last month.
Tshuma garnered 10 727 votes beating Costin Muguti of the opposition CCC polled 4 800 votes.
By- CCC leader Nelson Chamisa’s legal advisor and top lawyer, Advocate Thabani Mpofu is in Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (Zacc)’s crosshairs following allegations that he received “an inducement” from accused persons to conceal racism and human rights abuse allegations in a case where he was chairing an independent inquiry.
The allegations arose after Norton legislator Temba Mliswa (Independent) wrote a letter on February 18, 2020, to the Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission (ZHRC) chairperson Elasto Mugwadi calling on him to intervene in the impasse between the workers of a mining company Breckridge Investments, a subsidiary of Dallaglio Investments, and the chief executive officer Mike Fowler along with chief finance officer Joseph Crnkovic.
Mliswa in his letter indicated that his role was “to receive and consider complaints of the public and to protect people from abuse of power”.
He told Mugwadi that he had been approached by workers of the gold mine in Chegutu, who told him of racial, emotional and moral abuse involving current and former employees against Fowler and Crnkovic.
Mpofu was then appointed to head an independent tribunal to look into the matter.
But according to Crnkovic, he was then told by his boss, Matthew Hossack, that he was going to face the tribunal alone.
Crnkovic was being represented by the company’s legal practitioners, Promethious Law/Lunga and Partners and his legal fees were paid by the company, while the workers were represented by Marufu Mandevere.
Crnkovic then received an email from Zweli Lunga, a partner in Promethious Law/Lunga and Partners requesting him to pay US$5 000 to the law firm for onward transmission to Mpofu.
The US$5 000 was allegedly transferred to Mpofu’s personal account held at Nedbank.
In the email submitted to the Law Society of Zimbabwe (LSZ) and Zacc as an exhibit from Mpofu to Hossack, Crnkovic, stated that: “Dear Matt, I have completed my task and this is my report. The necessary fees have been agreed with Zweli. The report has not been given to the employee.”
It is alleged that on May 27, 2020, Crnkovic received an email from Lunga which showed the fee that Mpofu had billed Lunga referencing Bleckridge Investments.
Crnkovic indicated that there was no tribunal held for Fowler, who was primarily the accused person.
In a statement to Zacc, Crnkovic said the issue was exacerbated by a case where he is representing Fopuld Investments, a plaintiff against Evolution Group trading as Glen Forest Memorial Cemetery, where Mpofu is also representing the defendant.
“I am now representing Fopuld Investments, who is plaintiff against Evolution Group trading as Glen Forest Memorial Cemetery, where Advocate Mpofu is representing the defendant. Certain events led me to suspect Advocate Mpofu of corruption in this case, but I have no evidence yet,” Crnkovic submitted to Zacc.
“The payment received by advocate Mpofu was a financial inducement for him to convince the employees that Fowler did not need to be looked into or the US$5 000 was a payment to advocate Mpofu for the tribunal to be non-independent.
“Advocate Mpofu acted corruptly when he received US$5 000 for work done in which the employees were convinced they were getting a fair hearing. How could a hearing be fair if both the company’s lawyers were representing me and Advocate Mpofu was also being paid by the same company? Why was an independent tribunal never held into Fowler when he was accused by Mliswa just like me? It is my belief that the US$5 000 was a bribe from the company as agreed by Hossack and Advocate Mpofu. The purpose of the bribe was to cause Advocate Mpofu to not look into Fowler, and also to convince the employees and myself that we were facing a fair hearing, which is not true,” the statement read.
Crnkovic said it was his belief that there was clear corruption between Hossack and Mpofu.
The case was allocated case number RRB003547 at Zacc and the investigating officer, Takunda Mulambo, is reportedly seized with the matter.
The LSZ also wrote to Mpofu seeking an explanation over the matter.
“I enclose herewith a letter of complaint received from the above-named. In the attached complaint, it is alleged that you executed your mandate in a corrupt manner. In terms of the LSZ by-laws, you are required to reply to the substance of the complaint in writing within 14 days. Kindly note that your failure to respond within the stipulated timeframe will result in negative inferences being drawn from your failure to respond and the matter would be forwarded to the Disciplinary and Ethics Committee without further reference to you,” LSZ executive secretary Edward Mapara said.
There are indications that Mpofu had made a report to LSZ that there were people who were out to extort him.
Mpofu could not be reached for comment, but an official familiar with the case said: “Mpofu could not, as a disciplinary authority, go outside his terms of reference and neither could he demand more people to be tried than given. That would amount to touting. Besides, it is plainly illogical. So this complainant is saying Mpofu should have inquired into the conduct of Fowler. Why would he do that? And that Mpofu should not have been paid for his work?
“How could Breckridge bribe Mpofu so that Fowler is not tried? Mpofu had no authority over Fowler and Breckridge did not have to bribe Mpofu as claimed. So this executive was happy being acquitted by Mpofu and for two years, he was content only to come back now?” Newsday

Govt is set to introduce a diaspora bond for Zimbabweans overseas as it seeks to raise investment levels in the country.
This was revealed by the Finance and Economic Development minister Mthuli Ncube speaking at a side meeting with investors at the United Nations General Assembly 77th session in New York.
According to the Migration Policy Institute, a diaspora bond is a government debt security with investors drawn from the country’s nationals living abroad, their descendants, or those with other connection to the nation.
“We want investment back home. How shall we do it? The first thing is that you can invest through a diaspora bond which we are going to issue in the next few months. We took a while putting it together and it’s now ready. You can invest through that bond. It’s very good very attractive,” Ncube said.
“We are also going to set up a structure where rather than sending money every month to your relatives, we can take the interest and pass it on to your parents. You invest once, after that you can look after your parents through interest. Investment is very safe in Zimbabwe.”
In reaction, economic analyst Victor Bhoroma said the initiative looked attractive on paper, but government policies needed to be consistent.
“This looks attractive on paper, but remember the diasporas have reservations with the formal banking system which lacks market confidence. So, there are a number of things that need to be ironed out for such to work,” he said.
“Government policy needs to be consistent. The repayment of that bond obviously needs to be in foreign currency and there is a need for a ring-fenced account to ensure that those who buy that bond can be compensated.” -Newsday

According to the Zambian leader, SADC should not “fold hands” as the social unrest in Zimbabwe continues.
Writing on Twitter, United Party for National Development spokesperson, Joseph Kalimbwe, described President Hichilema as a genuine friend of those being persecuted by corrupt regimes.
“People have been asking us ‘what’s your President’s view on SADC’. Here it is; SADC must be pro-active. We can’t have leaders killing their people to remain in power. People of the SADC region, people of African continent, in our leader, in Hakainde you have a genuine friend .”
Kalimbwe added:
“It’s only in Africa – particularly here in SADC – where a party that’s failed to do anything meaningful in 30 or 42 years still wants to be given another 5 years – again to do nothing. Absolutely nothing – zero.
Sanctions were instituted because of human rights violations by individuals. End the human rights violations first because however you sing the “End Sanctions” rhetoric, the West won’t remove no sanctions if the rights of the people continue being violated. It’s that simple.”
Emmerson Mnangagwa has revealed how the British made a major climbdown after he insisted that he could not sign the book of condolences for the late Queen Elizabeth II because Zimbabwe is under illegal economic sanctions.
Addressing Zanu PF members drawn from the United States (US) and Canada structures in New York on Saturday, the President said Zimbabweans should never pander to the whims and caprices of anyone, but should always hold their heads high and insist on being accorded the respect befitting an independent and sovereign people.
Presently, Zimbabwe is under a painful regime of sanctions that were imposed by the United Kingdom and the US as punishment for the Land Reform Programme that corrected colonial land inequities.
The sanctions were meant to arm-twist Zimbabwe to restore land to the minority whites, a chapter that the President resolutely said was now closed.
And despite the sanctions, the Second Republic, under President Mnangagwa, has been on a growth trajectory building on his “Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo” philosophy.
When the Queen (Elizabeth II) passed on recently, I was invited to go and write my condolences at the British Embassy in Harare. So my Foreign Affairs (and International Trade) Minister (Ambassador Frederick Shava) went there and he told me that the Australian and Canadian ambassadors were there waiting for me to come. I then sent a message to the Foreign Affairs Minister to come back because I was not going there. The reason is, the United Kingdom imposed sanctions on us and we cannot go to the United Kingdom because of sanctions, so I said in terms of international conventions, the Embassy is a territory of the United Kingdom and I didn’t want to breach those sanctions,” the President said.
President Mnangagwa said the British Ambassador (Melaine Robinson) made a major diplomatic volte-face by saying that Zimbabwe was not under sanctions.
“I said Zimbabwe can never walk to the United Kingdom or to the embassy, but the Head of State, the personification of Zimbabwe cannot, still I cannot violate the territory of the United Kingdom, at the time we were in Angola.
“We insisted until we got a formal invitation saying that I can go to the embassy and that I will not be contravening anything. He (Ambassador Shava) persuaded me to go, I then went to the embassy to sign the book of condolences. Thereafter, I received a formal invitation to the funeral. I said I had assigned my Ambassador (to the United Kingdom Colonel Christian Katsande) to represent Zimbabwe at the funeral. I then sent a message through him that I am upgrading my representation from Ambassador to Minister, so I sent the Minister. I am saying this because we should not be moved around like little boys,” the President said to thunderous applause from members of the Zanu-PF US and Canada structures.
President Mnangagwa said when he came into office in 2017, he set targets for his administration that is currently pursuing Vision 2030, to make Zimbabwe an upper-middle class economy.
Such targets include food security, which has been met despite the weather vagaries caused by climate change.
Most of the targets have been met because of a visionary leadership that has insulated the agriculture sector, Zimbabwe’s economic mainstay, through the construction of dams in every part of Zimbabwe to ensure irrigation all year round.
This is in fulfilment of President Mnangagwa’s mantra of development that leaves no one and no place behind.
Remarkably, the Second Republic has achieved this in wheat production whose reserves now last for 13 months from the previous two months’ supply.
Food security has also been enhanced through local production of fertiliser, which was previously imported from Ukraine.
Similar success stories are being registered through the completion of projects like the Gwayi-Shangani dam and pipeline that was mooted in 1912 but only began with the dawn of the New Dispensation led by President Mnangagwa.
Rural industrialisation has also gathered pace through the setting up of industries in formally marginalised areas like Mwenezi where a Marula Processing Plant has been built, while in Mutoko a packaging plant for horticultural products has been set up.
In the next three years, each of the 35 000 villages in the country will have a solar-powered borehole where villagers can do their farming throughout the year and earn a living.

“He would visit my home when we were at work, and rapə my children,” he said.
The pastor made his second appearance in the Mamelodi Magistrates Court on Wednesday, 20 September, and the case was postponed to 5 October.
Constable Lethabo Mashiloane said: “A case of rapə was opened and a man (38) was arrested.”

“They attacked the family before robbing them of US$7, 910, a mobile phone, and killing the victim,” Nyathi said.
Neighbours said the family were tied with ropes. Chimoka’s daughter escaped and was able to call a relative who directed police to the house.
“Unfortunately, by the time police arrived at around 2.35AM Chimoka was already dead, and the robbers were gone.

South African legendary coach Pitso Mosimane believes African teams at the 2022 FIFA World Cup have a big chance of finally break the barrier and reach the semifinals of the tournament.
African teams have only managed to reach the quarterfinals, with Cameroon, Senegal and Ghana achieving the feat in 1990, 2002 and 2010, respectively, under European coaches.
This year’s edition will be different as all the teams from the continent teams will have local coaches.
Former internationals Walid Regragui (Morocco), Otto Addo (Ghana), Aliou Cisse (Senegal) and Rigobert Song (Cameroon) will guide their countries at the tournament, while Tunisia has Jalel Kadri.
And Mosimane believes this will help the continent’s representatives as the coaches are better qualified to lead from an African perspective.
“To have trust in African coaches is massive and shows a great sense of growth on the continent that must be sustained,” Mosimane told BBC Sport Africa.
“This is not a campaign against foreign coaches but applause to the decision-makers in our national associations.

Ghana national team coach Otto Addo has admitted that he made a mistake in his decision making in the 3-0 loss to Brazil in Friday’s international friendly.
The Black Stars conceded three goals in the first half with Tottenham striker Richarlison netting a brace, while Marquinhos added another one.
Halftime changes stabilised the team as the refreshed Ghana side showed great defensive organisation and look more threatening upfront, a quality they lacked in the first period.
Speaking after the loss, Addo conceded that his tactics failed but took the defeat as a learning curve.

The average global probability of a 10-year-old dying before age 24 was 6 times higher in sub-Saharan Africa than in North America and Europe.

Injuries
Unintentional injuries are the leading cause of death and disability among adolescents. In 2019, nearly 100 000 adolescents (10–19 years) died as a result of road traffic accidents (2). Many of those who died were vulnerable road users, including pedestrians, cyclists or users of motorized two-wheelers. In many countries, road safety laws need to be made more comprehensive, and enforcement of such laws needs to be strengthened. Furthermore, young drivers need advice on driving safely, while laws that prohibit driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs need to be strictly enforced among all age groups. Blood alcohol levels should be set lower for young drivers than for adults. Graduated licences for novice drivers with zero-tolerance for drink-driving are recommended.
Drowning is also among the top causes of death among adolescents; more than 40 000 adolescents, over three quarters of them boys, are estimated to have drowned in 2019. Teaching children and adolescents to swim is an essential intervention to prevent these deaths.

Interpersonal violence is among the leading causes of death in adolescents and young people globally. Its prominence varies substantially by world region. It causes nearly a third of all adolescent male deaths in low- and middle-income countries in the WHO Region of the Americas. According to the global school-based student health survey 42% of adolescent boys and 37% of adolescent girls were exposed to bullying. Sexual violence also affects a significant proportion of youth: 1 in 8 young people report sexual abuse.
Violence during adolescence also increases the risks of injury, HIV and other sexually transmitted infections, mental health problems, poor school performance and dropout, early pregnancy, reproductive health problems, and communicable and noncommunicable diseases.
Effective prevention and response strategies include promoting parenting and early childhood development; addressing school-based bullying prevention, programmes that develop life and social skills, and community approaches to reduce access to alcohol and firearms. Effective and empathetic care for adolescent survivors of violence, including ongoing support, can help with the physical and psychological consequences.
Mental health
Depression is one of the leading causes of illness and disability among adolescents, and suicide is the second leading cause of death in people aged 15–19 years (2). Mental health conditions account for 16% of the global burden of disease and injury in people aged 10–19 years. Half of all mental health disorders in adulthood start by age 14, but most cases are undetected and untreated.
Many factors have an impact on the well-being and mental health of adolescents. Violence, poverty, stigma, exclusion, and living in humanitarian and fragile settings can increase the risk of developing mental health problems. The consequences of not addressing adolescent mental health conditions extend to adulthood, impairing both physical and mental health and limiting opportunities to lead fulfilling lives as adults.
Building socioemotional skills in children and adolescents and providing them with psychosocial support in schools and other community settings can help promote good mental health. Programmes to help strengthen the ties between adolescents and their families and improve quality of home environments are also important. If problems arise, they should be detected and timely managed by competent and caring health workers.

Alcohol and drug use
Drinking alcohol among adolescents is a major concern in many countries. It can reduce self-control and increase risky behaviours, such as unsafe sex or dangerous driving. It is an underlying cause of injuries (including those due to road traffic accidents), violence and premature deaths. It can also lead to health problems in later life and affects life expectancy. Worldwide, more than a quarter of all people aged 15–19 years are current drinkers, amounting to 155 million adolescents. Prevalence of heavy episodic drinking among adolescents aged 15–19 years was 13.6% in 2016, with males most at risk.
Cannabis is the most widely used psychoactive drug among young people with about 4.7% of people aged 15–16 years using it at least once in 2018. Alcohol and drug use in children and adolescents is associated with neurocognitive alterations which can lead to behavioural, emotional, social and academic problems in later life.
Prevention of alcohol and drug use are important areas of public health actions and may include population-based strategies and interventions, activities in school, community, family and on the individual level. Setting a minimum age for buying and consuming alcohol and eliminate marketing and advertising to minors are among the key strategies for reducing drinking among adolescents.
Tobacco use
The vast majority of people using tobacco today began doing so when they were adolescents. Prohibiting the sale of tobacco products to minors (under 18 years) and increasing the price of tobacco products through higher taxes, banning tobacco advertising and ensuring smoke-free environments are crucial. Globally, at least 1 in 10 adolescents aged 13–15 years uses tobacco, although there are areas where this figure is much higher.
HIV/AIDS
An estimated 1.7 million adolescents (age 10–19 years) were living with HIV in 2019 with around 90% in the WHO African Region (3). While there have been substantial declines in new infections amongst adolescents from a peak in 1994, adolescents still account for about 10% of new adult HIV infections, with three-quarters amongst adolescent girls (4). Additionally, while new infections may have fallen in many of the most severely affected countries, recent testing coverage remains low suggesting that many adolescents and young people living with HIV may not know their status (5).
Adolescents living with HIV have worse access to antiretroviral treatment, adherence to treatment, retention in care and viral suppression. A key factor contributing to these is limited provision of adolescent-friendly services including psychosocial interventions and support.
Adolescents and young people need to know how to protect themselves from HIV infection and must also have the means to do so. This includes being able to obtain access HIV prevention interventions including voluntary medical male circumcision, condoms and pre-exposure prophylaxis, better access to HIV testing and counselling, and stronger links to HIV treatment services for those who test HIV positive.
Other infectious diseases
Thanks to improved childhood vaccination, adolescent deaths and disability from measles have fallen markedly. For example, adolescent mortality from measles fell by 90% in the African Region between 2000 and 2012.
Diarrhoea and lower respiratory tract infections (pneumonia) are estimated to be among the top 10 causes of death for adolescents 10–14 years. These two diseases, along with meningitis, are all among the top 5 causes of adolescent death in African low- and middle-income countries.
Infectious diseases like with human papilloma virus that normally occurs after onset of sexual activity can lead to both short-term disease (genital warts) during adolescence but more importantly also leads to cervical and other cancers several decades later. Early adolescence (9–14 years) is the optimal time for vaccination against HPV infection and it is estimated that if 90% of girls globally get the HPV vaccine more than 40 million lives could be saved over the next century. However, it is estimated that in 2019 only 15% of girls globally received the vaccine.

Early pregnancy and childbirth
Approximately 12 million girls aged 15–19 years and at least 777 000 girls under 15 years give birth each year in developing regions. Complications from pregnancy and childbirth are among the leading causes of death for girls aged 15–19 years globally.
The UN Population Division puts the global adolescent birth rate in 2020 at 41 births per 1000 girls this age, and country rates range from 1 to over 200 births per 1000 girls (6). This indicates a marked decrease since 1990. This decrease is reflected in a similar decline in maternal mortality rates among girls aged 15–19 years.
One of the specific targets of the health Sustainable Development Goal (SDG 3) is that by 2030, the world should ensure universal access to sexual and reproductive health-care services, including for family planning, information and education, and the integration of reproductive health into national strategies and programmes.
Adolescents need and have a right to comprehensive sexuality education, a curriculum-based process of teaching and learning about the cognitive, emotional, physical and social aspects of sexuality. Better access to contraceptive information and services can reduce the number of girls becoming pregnant and giving birth at too young an age. Laws that are enforced that specify a minimum age of marriage at 18 can help.
Girls who do become pregnant need access to quality antenatal care. Where permitted by law, adolescents who opt to terminate their pregnancies should have access to safe abortion.

A land scandal spawning from the controversial Airport Road construction project has ensnared several key institutions in the country amid charges that the sheriff of the High Court was involved in the transfer of ownership of a property without following proper procedures.
A local company that was subcontracted by businessman Ken Sharpe’s Augur Investments to construct the road linking the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport with Harare’s central business district has brought back the spotlight to the scandal ridden project after it approached the High Court.
In the new court battle, Fairclot Investments, trading as Trucking and Construction Pvt Ltd, is demanding the nullification of a deed of settlement between Harare City Council, Local Government ministry and Augur Investments, which it says shields Sharpe’s firm from prosecution over the land deals.
Fairclot was subcontracted by Sharpe’s Augur Investments to construct the Airport Road before the construction company terminated the deal because of a payment dispute.
Following an agreement made on March 26, 2013, Fairclot constructed 2.7km of the road on behalf of Augur, which was controversially awarded the contract on May 30, 2008, without going to tender.
Under the agreement, Augur was supposed to construct the Airport Road with an understanding that 90% of the costs would be paid in the form of the land and 10% in cash.
The title deeds for the land that was identified for the deal were supposed to be kept by a private law firm until council approved the road project.
Augur went on to subcontracted Fairclot, which stopped work on the road after doing 2.7km due to non-payment.
The dispute was temporarily solved after “Augur pledged as security, stand 654, Pomona Township measuring 273 299 hectares of state land.
It has since emerged that Fairclot separately sued the sheriff of the High Court of Zimbabwe McDuff Madega for allowing the transfer of the Pomona property that was surrendered to him as security for the deal with Augur before Sharpe paid his dues.
It wants the court to declare the handover of stand number 654 Pomona Township to Augur null and void.
The company wants the property to be placed under judicial management.
“Any and all transfers of title affected in respect of stand 654 Pomona Township registered under Deed of Grant No. 2884/10 by and in favour of any person between the date of upliftment by second respondent (Madeka) to the date of this order are hereby cancelled,” part of the application filed on May 20, 2020, read.
The matter was heard by former judge Justice Faith Mushore who reserved judgement until she was fired by President Emmerson Mnangagwa early this month over “gross misconduct.”
The matter is likely to be given to another judge for determination.
Fairclot wants Madeka, who was arrested by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission in June and is facing 19 charges of criminal abuse of office and illegal sale of stands, to advertise the sale of the property within 10 days of the order.
Fairclot director, Grant Tilling Rusell, argued that the decision to hand the property back to Augur was unprocedural as the company had not fulfilled the conditions of their Airport Road deal.
Augur insists that it settled its dues to Fairclot that were in local currency after government regulations in 2019 put the US and Zimbabwe dollar exchange rates at par.
Simbarashe Kadye, on behalf of Augur, argued that: “Notwithstanding the position of the law, the first respondent has instructed the second respondent to execute the liability, which by terms of the law was given the value of RTGS dollars at the rate of one-to-one with the United States dollars, to be executed in the United States dollars.
“The instruction by the first respondent to execute the said liability in United States Dollars is contrary to the position of the law.
“This is premised on the fact that by operation of the law, the said liability was deemed to be in RTGS dollars,” Kadye said.
Harare North MP Norman Markham and property developer George Katsimberis are also challenging the deed of settlement that left Sharpe and his companies owning vast tracts of land in the capital.

USA, New York – Newly installed Kenyan president William Ruto has joined seemingly unyielding calls by his African peers to have western imposed sanctions against Zimbabwe lifted unconditionally.
In his inaugural address to the United Nations General Assembly Wednesday, Ruto said sanctions undermined Zimbabwe’s sovereignty and impoverished ordinary citizens.
“There might never be a more opportune time to revisit the practice of unilateral coercive actions, which often violate fundamental tenets of a rule-based international order, such as those imposed on Zimbabwe and Cuba,” Ruto said.
“Apart from undermining the sovereign equality of nations, they also indiscriminately punish the general citizenry, reserving their bitterest sting for innocent hustlers and the vulnerable.
“This compounds injustice and worsens suffering.”
Ruto was joined in his calls by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa who also reiterated his demands to have the controversial measures against his country’s troubled neighbour scrapped unconditionally.
Ramaphosa, who was being represented in his UN address by South Africa’s Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Naledi Pandor, said sanctions have had ripple effects in the form of a regional migration crisis.
“We call for an end to unilateral coercive measures against Zimbabwe which have compounded the problems experienced by the people of Zimbabwe and have a detrimental effect on the broader Southern African region,” Ramaphosa said.
The US 2001 imposed an asset freeze and travel ban on former Zimbabwean ruler Robert Mugabe and a select few members of his administration who included some security commanders for allegedly undermining democracy.
Europe, led by Zimbabwe’s former colonial master Britain, also joined the US in imposing sanctions against Zimbabwe.
The countries have gradually relaxed their measures but insist on compliance with certain democratic demands by Zimbabwean authorities before they could lift the sanctions.
South Africa, seen as the region’s de facto leader by virtue of its strong democracy and economy, has been accused of blindly chorusing the scrapping of sanctions while ignoring gross human rights violations and institutionalised corruption under the Zanu PF led government.
Transparency International’s latest Corruption Perceptions Index ranked Zimbabwe number 157 least corrupt nation out of 180 countries with the highest number representing the most corrupt country.
Government argues sanctions were imposed by former allies as punishment for the country’s decision to repossess tracts of arable land which had been in the hands of a minority white Zimbabweans of European descent.
Actress and radio personality Tino Katsande has revealed that she has been diagnosed with stage 1 cervical cancer.

A PRISON officer’s marriage is now on the rocks after her illicit affair, with an inmate, was exposed.
Correctional Officer Miriam Muzuva’s marriage with Rojers Chiradza came under the spotlight at Kentucky Prison.
She was reported to have fallen in love with an inmate.
Their affair was said to have started when Miriam received money, and groceries, from the inmate’s sister, who is based in South Africa.
Miriam clashed with Rojers and was transferred from Kentucky Prison to Harare Central Prison over the matter.
Miriam’s mother, only identified as Mai Muzuva, told H-Metro the matter has since been resolved.
“The matter has since been resolved mwanangu,” said Mai Muzuva.
“Miriam has since returned to her husband.
“They are now living together,” she said.
Impeccable sources told H-Metro Miriam returned to her husband following reports that another woman was likely to replace her.
Rojers denied the allegations.
“I do not know anything in connection with that issue, sorry,” he said, before hanging up the phone.
Miriam refused to entertain H-Metro.
Rojers and Miriam are legally married and have been blessed with three kids.- H-Metro

According to the Zambian leader, SADC should not “fold hands” as the social unrest in Zimbabwe continues.
Writing on Twitter, United Party for National Development spokesperson, Joseph Kalimbwe, described President Hichilema as a genuine friend of those being persecuted by corrupt regimes.
“People have been asking us ‘what’s your President’s view on SADC’. Here it is; SADC must be pro-active. We can’t have leaders killing their people to remain in power. People of the SADC region, people of African continent, in our leader, in Hakainde you have a genuine friend .”
Kalimbwe added:
“It’s only in Africa – particularly here in SADC – where a party that’s failed to do anything meaningful in 30 or 42 years still wants to be given another 5 years – again to do nothing. Absolutely nothing – zero.
Sanctions were instituted because of human rights violations by individuals. End the human rights violations first because however you sing the “End Sanctions” rhetoric, the West won’t remove no sanctions if the rights of the people continue being violated. It’s that simple.”

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) is investigating a murder case in which a 33-year-old man was axed to death in Chegutu Central Business District (CBD) on Thursday.
A police statement seen by Pindula News suggests that Fexon Nderema was found lying in a pool of blood while the alleged killer, Kudakwashe Munemo Chikomo has since been arrested in connection with the case. Reads the statement:
On 22/08/22, Police in Chegutu arrested Kudakwashe Munemo Chikomo (36) in connection with a murder case in which the body of Fexon Nderema (33) was found lying in a pool of blood at a complex in Chegutu CBD on 22/09/22 with deep cuts on the head.
Police recovered a blood-stained axe beside the body, and the victim’s cellphone was recovered from the suspect.
It is not yet clear why Nderema was killed.
Zimbabwe has recorded a rise in cases of passion in recent years with some attributing the trend to depression.
Police often urge members of the public to solve disputes amicably or engage a third party to mediate in the event that they are failing to find a solution on their own rather than taking the law into their own hands.- Pindula News

South African legendary coach Pitso Mosimane believes African teams at the 2022 FIFA World Cup have a big chance of finally break the barrier and reach the semifinals of the tournament.
African teams have only managed to reach the quarterfinals, with Cameroon, Senegal and Ghana achieving the feat in 1990, 2002 and 2010, respectively, under European coaches.
This year’s edition will be different as all the teams from the continent teams will have local coaches.
Former internationals Walid Regragui (Morocco), Otto Addo (Ghana), Aliou Cisse (Senegal) and Rigobert Song (Cameroon) will guide their countries at the tournament, while Tunisia has Jalel Kadri.
And Mosimane believes this will help the continent’s representatives as the coaches are better qualified to lead from an African perspective.
“To have trust in African coaches is massive and shows a great sense of growth on the continent that must be sustained,” Mosimane told BBC Sport Africa.
“This is not a campaign against foreign coaches but applause to the decision-makers in our national associations.
“A lot of people ask why African teams have not gone beyond the last eight or contested for the World Cup title itself, and I believe this is a big step to get there.

“People have been asking us ‘what’s your President’s view on SADC’. Here it is; SADC must be pro-active. We can’t have leaders killing their people to remain in power. People of the SADC region, people of African continent, in our leader, in Hakainde you have a genuine friend .”
Kalimbwe added:
“It’s only in Africa – particularly here in SADC – where a party that’s failed to do anything meaningful in 30 or 42 years still wants to be given another 5 years – again to do nothing. Absolutely nothing – zero.
Sanctions were instituted because of human rights violations by individuals. End the human rights violations first because however you sing the “End Sanctions” rhetoric, the West won’t remove no sanctions if the rights of the people continue being violated. It’s that simple.”

Overview
Survival chances for adolescents and young adults vary greatly across the world. In 2020, the probability of dying among those aged 10–24 years was highest in sub-Saharan Africa, Oceania (excluding Australia and New Zealand), northern Africa and southern Asia (1). The average global probability of a 10-year-old dying before age 24 was 6 times higher in sub-Saharan Africa than in North America and Europe.
Main health issues
Injuries
Unintentional injuries are the leading cause of death and disability among adolescents. In 2019, nearly 100 000 adolescents (10–19 years) died as a result of road traffic accidents (2). Many of those who died were vulnerable road users, including pedestrians, cyclists or users of motorized two-wheelers. In many countries, road safety laws need to be made more comprehensive, and enforcement of such laws needs to be strengthened. Furthermore, young drivers need advice on driving safely, while laws that prohibit driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs need to be strictly enforced among all age groups. Blood alcohol levels should be set lower for young drivers than for adults. Graduated licences for novice drivers with zero-tolerance for drink-driving are recommended.
Drowning is also among the top causes of death among adolescents; more than 40 000 adolescents, over three quarters of them boys, are estimated to have drowned in 2019. Teaching children and adolescents to swim is an essential intervention to prevent these deaths.
Violence
Interpersonal violence is among the leading causes of death in adolescents and young people globally. Its prominence varies substantially by world region. It causes nearly a third of all adolescent male deaths in low- and middle-income countries in the WHO Region of the Americas. According to the global school-based student health survey 42% of adolescent boys and 37% of adolescent girls were exposed to bullying. Sexual violence also affects a significant proportion of youth: 1 in 8 young people report sexual abuse.
Violence during adolescence also increases the risks of injury, HIV and other sexually transmitted infections, mental health problems, poor school performance and dropout, early pregnancy, reproductive health problems, and communicable and noncommunicable diseases.
Effective prevention and response strategies include promoting parenting and early childhood development; addressing school-based bullying prevention, programmes that develop life and social skills, and community approaches to reduce access to alcohol and firearms. Effective and empathetic care for adolescent survivors of violence, including ongoing support, can help with the physical and psychological consequences.
Mental health
Depression is one of the leading causes of illness and disability among adolescents, and suicide is the second leading cause of death in people aged 15–19 years (2). Mental health conditions account for 16% of the global burden of disease and injury in people aged 10–19 years. Half of all mental health disorders in adulthood start by age 14, but most cases are undetected and untreated.
Many factors have an impact on the well-being and mental health of adolescents. Violence, poverty, stigma, exclusion, and living in humanitarian and fragile settings can increase the risk of developing mental health problems. The consequences of not addressing adolescent mental health conditions extend to adulthood, impairing both physical and mental health and limiting opportunities to lead fulfilling lives as adults.
Building socioemotional skills in children and adolescents and providing them with psychosocial support in schools and other community settings can help promote good mental health. Programmes to help strengthen the ties between adolescents and their families and improve quality of home environments are also important. If problems arise, they should be detected and timely managed by competent and caring health workers.

Alcohol and drug use
Drinking alcohol among adolescents is a major concern in many countries. It can reduce self-control and increase risky behaviours, such as unsafe sex or dangerous driving. It is an underlying cause of injuries (including those due to road traffic accidents), violence and premature deaths. It can also lead to health problems in later life and affects life expectancy. Worldwide, more than a quarter of all people aged 15–19 years are current drinkers, amounting to 155 million adolescents. Prevalence of heavy episodic drinking among adolescents aged 15–19 years was 13.6% in 2016, with males most at risk.
Cannabis is the most widely used psychoactive drug among young people with about 4.7% of people aged 15–16 years using it at least once in 2018. Alcohol and drug use in children and adolescents is associated with neurocognitive alterations which can lead to behavioural, emotional, social and academic problems in later life.
Prevention of alcohol and drug use are important areas of public health actions and may include population-based strategies and interventions, activities in school, community, family and on the individual level. Setting a minimum age for buying and consuming alcohol and eliminate marketing and advertising to minors are among the key strategies for reducing drinking among adolescents.
Tobacco use
The vast majority of people using tobacco today began doing so when they were adolescents. Prohibiting the sale of tobacco products to minors (under 18 years) and increasing the price of tobacco products through higher taxes, banning tobacco advertising and ensuring smoke-free environments are crucial. Globally, at least 1 in 10 adolescents aged 13–15 years uses tobacco, although there are areas where this figure is much higher.
HIV/AIDS
An estimated 1.7 million adolescents (age 10–19 years) were living with HIV in 2019 with around 90% in the WHO African Region (3). While there have been substantial declines in new infections amongst adolescents from a peak in 1994, adolescents still account for about 10% of new adult HIV infections, with three-quarters amongst adolescent girls (4). Additionally, while new infections may have fallen in many of the most severely affected countries, recent testing coverage remains low suggesting that many adolescents and young people living with HIV may not know their status (5).
Adolescents living with HIV have worse access to antiretroviral treatment, adherence to treatment, retention in care and viral suppression. A key factor contributing to these is limited provision of adolescent-friendly services including psychosocial interventions and support.
Adolescents and young people need to know how to protect themselves from HIV infection and must also have the means to do so. This includes being able to obtain access HIV prevention interventions including voluntary medical male circumcision, condoms and pre-exposure prophylaxis, better access to HIV testing and counselling, and stronger links to HIV treatment services for those who test HIV positive.
Other infectious diseases
Thanks to improved childhood vaccination, adolescent deaths and disability from measles have fallen markedly. For example, adolescent mortality from measles fell by 90% in the African Region between 2000 and 2012.
Diarrhoea and lower respiratory tract infections (pneumonia) are estimated to be among the top 10 causes of death for adolescents 10–14 years. These two diseases, along with meningitis, are all among the top 5 causes of adolescent death in African low- and middle-income countries.
Infectious diseases like with human papilloma virus that normally occurs after onset of sexual activity can lead to both short-term disease (genital warts) during adolescence but more importantly also leads to cervical and other cancers several decades later. Early adolescence (9–14 years) is the optimal time for vaccination against HPV infection and it is estimated that if 90% of girls globally get the HPV vaccine more than 40 million lives could be saved over the next century. However, it is estimated that in 2019 only 15% of girls globally received the vaccine.

Early pregnancy and childbirth
Approximately 12 million girls aged 15–19 years and at least 777 000 girls under 15 years give birth each year in developing regions. Complications from pregnancy and childbirth are among the leading causes of death for girls aged 15–19 years globally.
The UN Population Division puts the global adolescent birth rate in 2020 at 41 births per 1000 girls this age, and country rates range from 1 to over 200 births per 1000 girls (6). This indicates a marked decrease since 1990. This decrease is reflected in a similar decline in maternal mortality rates among girls aged 15–19 years.
One of the specific targets of the health Sustainable Development Goal (SDG 3) is that by 2030, the world should ensure universal access to sexual and reproductive health-care services, including for family planning, information and education, and the integration of reproductive health into national strategies and programmes.
Adolescents need and have a right to comprehensive sexuality education, a curriculum-based process of teaching and learning about the cognitive, emotional, physical and social aspects of sexuality. Better access to contraceptive information and services can reduce the number of girls becoming pregnant and giving birth at too young an age. Laws that are enforced that specify a minimum age of marriage at 18 can help.
Girls who do become pregnant need access to quality antenatal care. Where permitted by law, adolescents who opt to terminate their pregnancies should have access to safe abortion.

Tinashe Sambiri|CCC MPs have mooted a resolution to wear black masks and armbands to protest at the prolonged detention of Hon Job Sikhala, Hon Godfrey Karakadzai Sithole and the Nyatsime activists.
The jailed CCC members have clocked 100 days in prison as the regime continues to torment perceived foes.
CCC official, Hon Charlton Hwende on Thursday said :
“Our MPs will start wearing black masks and armbands to symbolize the death of democracy in the country.

By A Correspondent- Seven children from an Honde Valley family recently succumbed to measles within a space of two weeks.
The seven children were aged between three and 11.
The Rode family’s remaining eight children were only spared after their parents took the bold decision to quit their white garment church and seek medical services for them, according to The Herald.
Religious beliefs that discourage seeking medical services have been identified as the major cause of the current measles outbreak and the resulting deaths.
Mr Tendai Rode of Nyamaende in Honde Valley told Zimpapers’ Television Network (ZTN) that it was painful to bury his children one after the other within such a short space of time. He said in an interview:
I am married to three wives and I was blessed with 15 children. All my children got infected with measles. This happened within a week and on day eight, some of the children who had developed a skin rash started coughing.
The following day, the first child, aged three, died in the morning. The other one, aged four, died in the afternoon. We buried them the following morning.
The other child, aged five, succumbed to the same disease two days later. Barely a day later, the other girl who was doing Grade Two also died.
The other child died the next day. We were all traumatised because five children had succumbed to the disease within a week.
Watching my children dying one after the other made me think twice about my religious beliefs. I saw it prudent to quit my church and seek medical attention for my children at the local health institution.
However, my 11-year-old boy who was being attended to at the clinic failed to make it. He died that very evening. The other one died three days later.
So five of my children died before we could seek medical attention for them, while the other two died after our visit to the clinic. All the children were not vaccinated as this was against our religious beliefs.
However, the measles tests done on my children were not conclusive. The skin rash had disappeared, but their coughing persisted. This disease cost me dearly and I have nowhere to start. All our resources were drained during the seven funerals.
Statistics from the Ministry of Health and Child Care say as of last week, Manicaland had recorded 3 010 cases and 347 deaths, mostly in Mutasa District. Of those cases, 507 were vaccinated, while 1 982 were unvaccinated. The status of 527 people was unknown.
In response to the measles outbreak, the Government has deployed mobile teams to vaccinate children between the ages of six months and 15 years.

Measles is caused by a highly contagious virus that spreads from person to person via airborne transmission, including breathing, coughing and sneezing.
Among other symptoms, infected persons develop a skin rash, high fever, cough, runny nose, irritated red and watery eyes.
By- Vice President Constantino Chiwenga is likely to contest President Emmerson Mnangagwa at the Zanu PF elective congress due next month.
This was indirectly revealed by the party’s spokesperson Christopher Mutsvangwa who said Zanu PF his party was a democratic institution that respects the internal democratic process.
Unconfirmed reports suggest that Chiwenga has always wanted to replace Mnangagwa.
These reports say there is an unwritten agreement between Mnangagwa and his deputy which states that the former will be president for a single term and hand over to Chiwenga.
The agreement is said to have been entered into in 2017 before the death of former President Robert Mugabe.
In an interview with The NewsHawks, Mutsvangwa said the congress, which will be the first to be held without Mugabe who died on 6 September 2019, would pass the test of democracy.
Asked to respond to reports that some Zanu PF members want Chiwenga to replace Mnangagwa in accordance with their “unwritten agreement”, Mutsvangwa said:
“We hear rumblings to that effect from those who are outside the membership of the party. Best if they can become party members so their rumblings can get the opportunity to be debated and addressed. Otherwise, if they feel genuinely aggrieved, the 2013 constitution of Zimbabwe allows for them to form their own parties in league with those fretting outside of party structures and membership. Zimbabwe is not a one-party state.”

Human rights activist Farai Maguwu said the businessman held a meeting with villagers before the arson attacks.

By- Harare has caged 550 Malawian citizens for trying to sneak into South Africa without proper travel documents.
Reports say 317 are in prison in the capital Harare, 83 are in Gweru, 82 in Chivhu, and 86 in Mvuma.
The majority of the immigrants had no intention of staying in Zimbabwe as they were caught en route to South Africa, according to Nation Africa.
Malawi has since sought help from international institutions such as the International Migration Organisation (IOM) to facilitate the return of its citizens.
IOM Zimbabwe spokesperson Fadzai Nyamande-Pangeti confirmed that the organisation was considering the request from the Malawian government. Ms Nyamande-Pangeti said:
We are supporting the government (of Zimbabwe) through the provision of varied logistical support as we always do where funding is available.
We cannot provide any other details on the progress of this operation or how long these Malawian nationals have been in Zimbabwe.
Zimbabwe’s Foreign Affairs ministry spokesperson Livit Mugejo said the embassy of Malawi is processing their papers for them to go back to Malawi. He said:
These are not prisoners, they were only intercepted and found to have inadequate papers.
The Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission says it is not ideal for immigrants to be locked up in prisons with criminals as this was a violation of human rights violations.
Immigrants from across Africa use Zimbabwe as an entry point into South Africa due to the country’s porous borders.
By- Police in Marondera are investigating a robbery and murder case in which a Marondera businessman was robbed and killed.
The robbery and murder happened on Thursday morning.
In a statement, police said the robbers used a pistol, iron bars and spears.

The ZRP is investigating a case in which a Businessman (62) was killed in a robbery incident, in Paradise Park, Marondera, on 23/09/22 at around 0200 hours. Four suspects, armed with an unidentified pistol, iron bars, and spears, pounced at the victim’s house, where they attacked the family before robbing them of US$7 910, a cellphone, and killing the victim. Anyone with information to report at any nearest Police station.
Robbers have been targeting individuals, companies and even banks and other financial institutions.
Some members of the gangs believed to be behind the spate of robbery cases in the country are already behind bars while some are still on the run.
Harare Magistrate Ruth Moyo on Thursday 22 September 2022 acquitted three residents of Epworth, who had been on trial answering to public violence charges after they were arrested during the run-up to the 26 March 2022 by-elections.
The Epworth residents, Nobody Makoni aged 52 years, Agnes Mabhena aged
48 years and Patricia Zihanzu aged 50 years, were standing trial at Harare Magistrates Court after they were arrested on 27 February 2022 while conducting a door to door political campaign to mobilse support for their opposition Citizens Coalition for Change political party candidates and charged with public violence as defined in section
36(1) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act.
During trial, prosecutors alleged that while at Belapedzi Farm in Epworth, Makoni, Mabhena and Zihanzu unlawfully and forcibly disturbed the peace, security and order of the public to a serious extent by
assaulting Stanley Muchemwa, a ruling ZANU PF party supporter, who was
reportedly walking from his residence. Muchemwa, prosecutors alleged,
sustained injuries after being assaulted by a metal golf stick, open palms and booted feet.
But on Thursday 22 September 2022, Magistrate Moyo set the trio free
after acquitting them at the close of the prosecution case as their lawyer Gift Mtisi of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights argued during trial that Makoni, Mabhena and Zihanzu were actually the victims of
assault by some ZANU PF party supporters and had been targeted for
their affiliation to CCC political party, which is a rival to the ruling political party. Magistrate Moyo agreed with Mtisi’s
submissions while prosecutors conceded that they had failed to prove a prima facie case against the three Epworth residents.

Today marks 100 days of our incarceration together with Hon. Godfrey Sithole since our arbitrary arrest on the 14th of June 2022.
Our arrest was followed by the arrest of 14 other innocent citizens, 3 of them with us here at Chikurubhi Maximum Security Prison and the other 11 detained at Harare Remand Prison.
As correctly pointed out by Prof Ibbo Mandaza and 115 others’ petition, our arrest is purely political persecution by a regime afraid of dissent and democratic discourse in the Country.
We are victims of our beliefs, beliefs which we dearly hold, the belief that Zimbabwe must be a free society devoid of callous murders and killings of those holding differing views and opinions.
We are suffering and being persecuted for loving our Country and the downtrodden in our society, with all our hearts and soul.
Beloved Zimbabweans, we dearly love our Country and everyone living in it to the core, Zimbabwe belongs to all of us and we will strive forever for a society of equality and happiness.
Your overwhelming support is echoing here through the walls of Chikurubhi Maximum Security Prison.
We are NOT criminals. We are political prisoners of a regime that is scared of its people.

GUTU – There were running battles at Mpandawana in Gutu this week as touts operating at the main bus terminus tried to launch a group that will campaign for Mnangagwa under the name Mahwindi for ED.
Sources told The Mirror that the touts have declared the district’s main bus terminus a no-go-area for anyone who doesn’t join the group and campaign for Mnangagwa. Transporters who don’t join the group have also been warned that they will not be plying any route in the district.
The running battles resulted in the arrest of Charles Zvenyika, a CCC activist who allegedly resisted coercion by the ring-leaders of the rag-tag group.
Gutu is home to ugly political violence and in November last year Nyasha Zhambe, a CCC supporter died a few weeks after he was severely assaulted at a roadblock on suspicion that he was coming from Nelson Chamisa’s rally. The suspected gang leader at the roadblock Baster Mafios, died a few months later in a road accident after warnings from traditional leaders that the avenging spirit will come after him.
He was the only one among a dozen people in the kombi who was injured. He died on the spot.
Zvenyika who was detained by Gutu Police yesterday is expected to appear in court tomorrow (Friday) charged with theft of a cellphone and resisting arrest by the Police.

By James Gwati- There are mixed reactions in Zambia after the University of Lusaka pronounced a dress code on and off campus.
Some dress restrictions include wearing shorts for both male and female students.
Below is the memorandum by the University detailing the dress code:
REMINDER TO OUR ESTEEMED STUDENTS
DRESSING AND APPEARANCE
The University wishes to encourage its esteemed students to adopt a style of dressing and appearance that would be acceptable in the various fields of work and society in general.
Thus, students are required to observe the appropriate manner of dress and appearance while attending classes or engaging in other academic pursuits on or off-campus. Therefore, the following, though not exhaustive, would be considered as inappropriate dress and/or appearance:
Clothing with derogatory, offensive and/or obscene messages either in words or pictures
Political regalia.
Male students’ undershirts (I.e. vests, singiets).
Male and female students’ pants that expose or show underwear/undergarments or skin. This includes, but is not llmited to sagging and ripped jeans.
Pairs of shorts for female and male students.
Shirts or blouses that reveal undergarments or cleavage, midriff length tops that leave exposed skin, crop tops, tank tops or halter tops; suggestive, excessively tight, or revealing clothing (short dresses and skirts) and any other inappropriate attire.
Clothing made of any see-through material, fishnet, or very loosely-woven fabric, unless other clothing is worn underneath.
Clothing made of body-hugging fabric such as leggings that are worn without a tunic- style blouse. Cyding or Biker shorts should not be worn when going to dass, to examination rooms or to the Library.
All students are expected to conform to the stated guidelines.

CCC official, Hon Charlton Hwende on Thursday said :
“Our MPs will start wearing black masks and armbands to symbolize the death of democracy in the country.
Every arrested person has a right to get bail and to be presumed innocent until proven guilty. Free Job Sikhala and Godfrey Sithole and the Nyatsime activists.”
By- Zanu PF spokesperson Christopher Mutsvangwa said his party was a democratic institution that respects the internal democratic process.
In other words, Mutsvangwa is confirming that Chiwenga would contest Mnangagwa at the party’s elective congress due next month.
Reports suggest Chiwenga wants to replace the party President, Emmerson Mnangagwa.
These reports say there is an unwritten agreement between Mnangagwa and his deputy which states that the former will be president for a single term and hand over to Chiwenga.
The agreement is said to have been entered into in 2017 before the death of former President Robert Mugabe.
In an interview with The NewsHawks, Mutsvangwa said the congress, which will be the first to be held without Mugabe who died on 6 September 2019, would pass the test of democracy.
Asked to respond to reports that some Zanu PF members want Chiwenga to replace Mnangagwa in accordance with their “unwritten agreement”, Mutsvangwa said:
“We hear rumblings to that effect from those who are outside the membership of the party. Best if they can become party members so their rumblings can get the opportunity to be debated and addressed. Otherwise, if they feel genuinely aggrieved, the 2013 constitution of Zimbabwe allows for them to form their own parties in league with those fretting outside of party structures and membership. Zimbabwe is not a one-party state.”

Three Zimbabwean men were on recently burnt to death by a mob in Mashamba area under the Makhado policing area in South Africa’s Limpopo Province.
It is reported that the men who had bought a stolen panel were accused of orchestrating the theft of the solar panels and related accessories in Chavani village.
Makhado police spokesperson Sergeant Tshifhiwa Irene Radzilani said the police were now investigating three cases of murder.
She said they were yet to make any arrests and appealed to anyone with information to contact the nearest police station.
“We are investigating three cases of murder, where three African males, reported to be Zimbabweans were burnt beyond recognition by a mob, which claimed to have caught them red handed stealing cables and solar panels at Mashamba area,” said Sgt Radzilani.
“The community went with them around the Chavani village so that they can allegedly point out one of their accomplices. But however, they could not find him and the trio was burnt by members of the community.
“As the police we would also want to dismiss the allegations that Zimbabweans around that area have been chased to the bushes. We don’t have such a report”.
She also warned members of the community against taking the law into their own hands.
The incident comes a few months following the burning of another Zimbabwean man by a mob who accused him of being an illegal migrant.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) is investigating a murder case in which a 33-year-old man was axed to death in Chegutu Central Business District (CBD) on Thursday.
A police statement seen by Pindula News suggests that Fexon Nderema was found lying in a pool of blood while the alleged killer, Kudakwashe Munemo Chikomo has since been arrested in connection with the case. Reads the statement:
On 22/08/22, Police in Chegutu arrested Kudakwashe Munemo Chikomo (36) in connection with a murder case in which the body of Fexon Nderema (33) was found lying in a pool of blood at a complex in Chegutu CBD on 22/09/22 with deep cuts on the head.
Police recovered a blood-stained axe beside the body, and the victim’s cellphone was recovered from the suspect.
It is not yet clear why Nderema was killed.
Zimbabwe has recorded a rise in cases of passion in recent years with some attributing the trend to depression.
Police often urge members of the public to solve disputes amicably or engage a third party to mediate in the event that they are failing to find a solution on their own rather than taking the law into their own hands.- Pindula News
A 53-YEAR-OLD man from Bulawayo’s high-density suburb of Sizinda has been sentenced to four months imprisonment after stealing a six pack of Black Label beer at his work place.
Circumstances are that on September 7 at around 6pm, Army Ndala Zulu, who works at Bonsa Spar in Hillside, nicked the beer at his work station’s receiving bay and hid it inside his jacket.
His shenanigans were however caught on Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) after an alert security guard Chalton Maphosa had raised a red flag the following day.
At the court the retail outlet was represented by Khulisani Mhlanga and despite claiming he had stolen the beer to sell and buy mealie-meal for his family, Bulawayo magistrate Busani Sibanda found Zulu guilty hence the sentence for the offence.
However, one month was suspended on condition that he pays a fine of $4 194 before 30 September. Two months were suspended on condition of good behaviour and completes 70 hours of community service at Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP)Tshabalala station that is to be completed in two weeks.

President Chamisa stressed the need for political tolerance, peace and justice in the country.

Today marks 100 days of our incarceration together with Hon. Godfrey Sithole since our arbitrary arrest on the 14th of June 2022.
Our arrest was followed by the arrest of 14 other innocent citizens, 3 of them with us here at Chikurubhi Maximum Security Prison and the other 11 detained at Harare Remand Prison.
As correctly pointed out by Prof Ibbo Mandaza and 115 others’ petition, our arrest is purely political persecution by a regime afraid of dissent and democratic discourse in the Country.
We are victims of our beliefs, beliefs which we dearly hold, the belief that Zimbabwe must be a free society devoid of callous murders and killings of those holding differing views and opinions.
We are suffering and being persecuted for loving our Country and the downtrodden in our society, with all our hearts and soul.
Beloved Zimbabweans, we dearly love our Country and everyone living in it to the core, Zimbabwe belongs to all of us and we will strive forever for a society of equality and happiness.

GUTU – There were running battles at Mpandawana in Gutu this week as touts operating at the main bus terminus tried to launch a group that will campaign for Mnangagwa under the name Mahwindi for ED.
Sources told The Mirror that the touts have declared the district’s main bus terminus a no-go-area for anyone who doesn’t join the group and campaign for Mnangagwa. Transporters who don’t join the group have also been warned that they will not be plying any route in the district.
The running battles resulted in the arrest of Charles Zvenyika, a CCC activist who allegedly resisted coercion by the ring-leaders of the rag-tag group.
Gutu is home to ugly political violence and in November last year Nyasha Zhambe, a CCC supporter died a few weeks after he was severely assaulted at a roadblock on suspicion that he was coming from Nelson Chamisa’s rally. The suspected gang leader at the roadblock Baster Mafios, died a few months later in a road accident after warnings from traditional leaders that the avenging spirit will come after him.
He was the only one among a dozen people in the kombi who was injured. He died on the spot.
Zvenyika who was detained by Gutu Police yesterday is expected to appear in court tomorrow (Friday) charged with theft of a cellphone and resisting arrest by the Police.

Police yesterday accused politicians from across the divide of stoking violence, thus making it extremely difficult for the law enforcement agents to professionally discharge their duties.
National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi made the remarks during a meeting on peace and elections organised by the Zimbabwe Council of Churches in collaboration with the National Transitional Justice Working Group (NTJWG) in Harare yesterday.
Nyathi said: “Some politicians lie, for example, a politician wanted to hold a rally in a building in Bulawayo. His gathering was cleared by the police, but the property owner did not want it. The politician later addressed the gathering and claimed he had been denied by the police.”
Nyathi said police would now seek confirmation from property owners before clearing gatherings.
He was responding to concerns by participants over partisan policing in favour of the ruling Zanu PF party.
NTJWG programmes co-ordinator Wilbert Mandinde said the public no longer felt safe to report violations to the police for fear of being labelled perpetrators.
Police have often been accused of blocking gatherings and rallies organised by opposition political parties and pro-democracy groups.
Ahead of the March 26 by-elections, a number of rallies organised by the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) were banned by the police under unclear circumstances.
But Nyathi said politicians were to blame for the confusion as they tended to book same venues booked by their rivals.
“We want the church to assist. Politicians say different things, preach peace during the day and during the night sending people to fight rivals and use hate language. Our politicians lie,” Nyathi said.
“Politicians, please unite people so that you make the work of the police easier. You use hate speech, when you are made to account for your work, you play the victim.
“Is it that when you address people you always must be confrontational? We want mature politics, talk about peace and what you want to do to the people, not incite violence.”
He said it was difficult to talk of peaceful elections in 2023 when people were inciting violence over social media.
Even in Parliament, he said, MPs use hate language against each other and that triggers violence.
ZCC secretary-general Kenneth Mtata said it was possible to achieve a non-violent 2023 election if stakeholders worked together.
Ian Makone, the CCC head of elections, challenged the police to be non-partisan. He said his party would next month release its proposed electoral reforms document.
“CCC will issue its document on election reforms. Among the seven key points that we mention in that document are the security of the voter and the security of the vote, all of which are undermined by violence on our land,” Makone said.
MDC Alliance secretary for defence, Solomon Sox Chikowere, said his party was advocating for an inclusive dialogue to end violence.
Representatives from Zanu PF, Zec and the National Peace and Reconciliation Commission did not turn up for the meeting although they had been invited.
The Zimbabwe Media Commission, Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission and the Zimbabwe Gender Commission attended the meeting. —Newsday
MPs have demanded that Auditor-General (AG) Mildred Chiri be summoned to Parliament to explain why allocated funds in some ministries and government entities for 2021 have not been accounted for.
Chiri recently presented the 2021 appropriation accounts audit report for several ministries in Parliament.
The report covers financial statements on appropriation accounts, finance and revenue statements and fund accounts, highlighting the key audit findings and recommendations.
On a point of national interest in the National Assembly on Thursday, Harare East legislator Tendai Biti (Citizens Coalition for Change) expressed concern over unaccounted votes and demanded an explanation from Finance minister Mthuli Ncube and the AG.
“I am gravely concerned that having looked at the appropriation accounts for 2021, those accounts must be prepared according to the International Public Sector Accounting Standards,” Biti said.
“They must also be prepared according to the International Standards of Supreme Audit Institutions. If you go to the accounts we received, you will see that there is no appropriation account that is commended on by the auditor in respect of about six key ministries.”
Biti cited the Finance and Economic Development; Lands and Agriculture; Health and Child Care; Higher and Tertiary Education; Women’s Affairs, Small to Medium Enterprises, Home Affairs ministries and the Public Service Commission.
The report exposes serious graft, mismanagement and corporate mis-governance in several parastatals and state entities.
But Biti said legislators needed answers from Chiri.
“The appropriation accounts are the accounts that tell us how much was spent and received. Overall, Mr Speaker Sir, the audit report does not have an overall appropriation of how much was used in 2021,” Biti said.
“Can the Parliamentary Public Accounts Committee be directed to summon the Auditor-General so that she can explain before the committee why the 2021 audit report which has been put in our emails does not meet those standards? This is so important given the high levels of corruption in our country at the present moment.”
In response, Speaker of the National Assembly Jacob Mudenda said: “I would rather go by your last recommendation, that is, the Public Accounts Committee must summon the Auditor-General to find out why those votes have not been accounted for.” –Newsday

The Zimbabwean midfielder joined the club in late January and played until the end of his contract in July.
He became a regular in the first team after making immediate impact at the club.
Before his move to the Middle East, Karuru was a free agent for seven months. He trained with DStv Premiership side Moroka Swallows in January and the South African club started talks with the player and a deal was imminent.
But after Al-Shoulla made a late approach, Karuru decided to move to Saudi Arabia instead.

Zimbabwe Union of Journalists ( ZUJ) president, Mr George Maponga, has been served with papers challenging him to stop the provincial congress scheduled for Friday 23 September.
Chiredzi based journalist Morris Bishi and other scribes in Masvingo lodged a complaint through their legal advisors, Ruvengo Maboke and Company, citing irregularities in the whole process of conducting the provincial congress.
According to Bishi and others, the constitutional provisions which stipulate that a notice of 30 days should be given before such a congress is held, were clearly violated by the ZUJ leadership.
Part of the letter reads:
” We are advised that you sent a letter on WhatsApp group ( news roundup) of journalists who operate in Masvingo wherein you advised members about your intention to conduct an elective congress on September 23 2022 in the afternoon. We have been advised that the said WhatsApp message was sent on the 16th of September…”

By- The ruling Zanu PF party has hinted that the government would soon dump the United States Dollar because it is foreign-controlled.
Christopher Mutsvangwa, the Zanu PF spokesperson, said they were considering reverting to using the useless local currency, saying “we can no longer have a currency which foreigners drive.”
Without giving timelines, Mutsvangwa told reporters in the capital, Harare, on Wednesday:
What we are getting to is the domestication of the Zimbabwe currency. We can no longer have a currency which is driven by foreigners. It is good for the country because our relationship as Zimbabweans is determined by our currency.
The Zimbabwe dollar was abandoned in 2009 following hyperinflation, and the country began using mainly the US dollar. The local unit was reintroduced in June 2019 and the use of other currencies was outlawed, but that policy was reversed in April 2020.
Locals mainly use the Zimbabwe dollar to pay for bills and taxes, preferring to use the greenback for the bulk of other transactions.
The local unit has lost more than 80% of its value against the US currency this year. While the official and parallel rates have diverged widely, the differential has recently narrowed after the authorities instituted measures to close the gap.
The Treasury announced in June that the US dollar will remain legal tender in the country for the next five years, a decision that was meant to ease uncertainty over currency regulations.

HH was speaking to BBC on several issues in the capital Lusaka this week.
Said HH:
People have been asking SADC must be pro-active. We can’t have leaders killing their people to remain in power.
By- The President of South Africa, Thabo Mbeki, said it was false that foreign nationals committed the bulk of crimes in South Africa.
Mbeki told a conversation meeting with students and diplomats in Pretoria that it was wrong to paint all foreign nationals with the same brush.
The former President said crime had no nationality, and if foreigners commit crimes in South Africa, they must be arrested and deported.
Said Mbeki:
We need to walk away from the false notion that the bulk of crime in this country is caused by foreigners. It is not correct.
The bulk of crime in this country is caused is committed by South Africans. There are foreigners who commit crimes.
You should arrest them and charge them. This is what we should do and avoid labelling other people.
He reminded South Africans that several African countries assisted South Africa in attaining its independence.
He said:
The African continent has felt, for a very long time, very, very close to this country, that it has its own responsibility to assist in the liberation of the people of South Africa.
You take a country like Mozambique just across our border, which lost thousands and thousands of people killed because it was refusing to walk away from the support here. The same thing happened in Angola.

By- At least 550 Malawian citizens are languishing in Zimbabwean prisons trying to sneak into South Africa without proper travel documents.
Reports say 317 are in prison in the capital Harare, 83 are in Gweru, 82 in Chivhu and 86 in Mvuma.
The majority of the immigrants had no intention of staying in Zimbabwe as they were caught en route to South Africa, according to Nation Africa.
Malawi has since sought help from international institutions such as the International Migration Organisation (IOM) to facilitate the return of its citizens.
IOM Zimbabwe spokesperson Fadzai Nyamande-Pangeti confirmed that the organisation was considering the request from the Malawian government. Ms Nyamande-Pangeti said:
We are supporting the government (of Zimbabwe) through the provision of varied logistical support as we always do where funding is available.
We cannot provide any other details on the progress of this operation or how long these Malawian nationals have been in Zimbabwe.
Zimbabwe’s Foreign Affairs ministry spokesperson Livit Mugejo said the embassy of Malawi is processing their papers for them to go back to Malawi. He said:
These are not prisoners, they were only intercepted and found to have inadequate papers.
The Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission says it is not ideal for immigrants to be locked up in prisons with criminals as this was a violation of human rights violations.
Immigrants from across Africa use Zimbabwe as an entry point into South Africa due to the country’s porous borders.
Cristiano Ronaldo has addressed rumours about his potential retirement date and has vowed to continue playing at football’s top level.
There had been speculation over whether the upcoming World Cup would be the 37-year-old’s final major international tournament.
