Tables Turn Against ZBC DJ

By- ZBC radio presenter Rutendo Makuti is set to stand trial on allegations of attempting to extort money from the leader of Goodness and Mercy Ministries, Tapiwa Freddy.

The DJ is said to have threatened to expose her love affair with the controversial preacher.

Makuti’s trial has been set for September 8, where she is expected to jointly appear with Chief Chikwaka (Witness Bungu), former police officer Gibson Jaji, and ZBC staffer Mutetepi Maushe.

Freddy was charged, but acquitted of raping Makuti and the present trial follows on complaints made to the police by Freddy.
The State alleges that when Makuti and Freddy had a love affair, and while they were still together, she allegedly started threatening him that if he did not meet her financial and material demands she would expose the affair to the public.
In August last year, Freddy was summoned by Chief Chikwaka to his homestead, but after he was tipped off that there might be some police officers who wanted to extort money from him he then left without entering the chiefly homestead, it is alleged.
But as he was returning to Harare, he was said to have been stopped by police manning a roadblock along Mutoko Road just after the intersection near Chief Chikwaka’s homestead.
The State alleges that the police said they had been instructed by Inspector Jaji and Chief Chikwaka not to allow him to pass through. After a few minutes, two men arrived at the roadblock and introduced themselves as Chief Chikwaka and Inspector Jaji.
They allegedly ordered Freddy to drive to his place, but he refused to comply, according to the State.
It is alleged that Inspector Jaji forcefully entered Freddy’s car and ordered him to drive to the Chief’s homestead where he discovered some uniformed police officers seated in a hut with six assistants to the chief.
The State alleged that Chief Chikwaka started accusing Freddy of raping Makuti and having sexual relations with her barely a year after the death of her husband, which was against their traditions.
He allegedly told the clergyman to pay something for violating the traditions, but refused to deal with the rape allegations since the police had to handle criminal cases.
It is said that Freddy felt that whatever was happening was illegal, but he was allegedly pressured to promise to pay US$15 000 and three goats and promised to return on a later date with the items.
Allegations are that Chief Chikwaka made him sign an agreement, which was prepared by Inspector Jaji and who promised to track him down in Harare if he failed to pay, and pick him up during his church services.
It is said that Chief Chikwaka told Freddy that if he failed to comply he would leak a video of him he had recorded to the public. The court heard that when they returned to Harare, Makuti asked Freddy to give her the money since she was the one who was involved with him.
She then allegedly threatened that if he failed to give her the money she would expose their love affair to the public through someone called Tatelicious.
Out of fear and pressure, Freddy allegedly gave Makuti a Mercedes Benz E-250 and she allegedly warned him never to reveal their deal and made him sign an agreement, saying it was a way of settling thir differences.
After some days, Makuti allegedly started threatening Freddy, saying his secretary Nollen Mundawaro had insulted her and she wanted US$20 000 as compensation.
She allegedly told him that Ms Mundawaro could not represent his church on their radio and television programmes.
The other ZBC staffer, Maushe, allegedly phoned Freddy that he had up to the end of the day to pay the US$20 000 and sign an acknowledgement that he had raped Makuti.
It was at this stage that Freddy lodged a complaint with the police. He was tried on rape charges and found not guilty with the court commenting unfavourably on the allegations. Herald

South Africans Block Beitbridge Border

By-South African taxi operators on Tuesday, 23 August blocked the Beitbridge-Musina road protesting over the alleged failure by the South African Police Service (SAPS) to deal with armed robbers targetting motorists along the highway.

A traffic alert statement issued on August 23, 2022, by the South African Department of Transport and Community Safety indicated that there was Traffic obstruction on the N1 North towards Beitbridge. Part of the statement read:

Our law enforcement officers and other relevant stakeholders have been dispatched to attend to the matter. We urge motorists to exercise patience as we attend to this.

The traffic blockage was just a kilometre from the border post after a police checkpoint and a government weighbridge for haulage trucks.

One of the protestors said they want all police commanders in Musina and at the border transferred for failure to protect motorists. Said the protestor:

People going to Musina who give us business are attacked daily by robbers who live in the bush, and police have not accounted for any. The commanders are not in charge and they should go.

People are robbed daily and not a single arrest has been made. What are they here for?

We are losing business. Even in Musina, businesses are being robbed.

Mohadi Forces Chiefs To Mobilise For Mnangagwa

By-Former Vice President Kembo Mohadi is conducting meetings with traditional leaders, telling them to mobilise support for Zanu PF ahead of the 2023 elections.

Mohadi was in Gokwe South District on Sunday with his election rigging programme.

Addressing the traditional leaders, Mohadi, said:

Please we are asking you our chiefs, headmen and village heads to develop your organisation (Zanu PF). Zanu PF is your party, did you know that?

Know it from today that Zanu PF is your party. We want to fight this war against the West-fronted opposition.

Zanu PF liberated this country. Did you know that this party is yours? We want you to increase the number of people to vote for Zanu PF.

Did you hear we want five million votes next year? We want them to vote for Zanu PF and through you, we know we will achieve that.

We want every village head to give us people we will check according to your register … If we are organised, we will rule until the donkeys have horns.

Some opposition said we had done a coup and that we are a military government, but we don’t care.

The previous day, Mohadi had addressed chiefs, village heads and headmen in Gokwe North.

Fund-Raisers Speak On Chamisa Bullet-Proof Car

By-The organisers of the GoFundMe campaign to buy a bulletproof vehicle for CCC leader Nelson Chamisa have distanced him and the party from the initiative, saying it was a private project.

The project is being spearheaded by a group called Citizens Action for Change (CAC).

CAC launched the GoFundMe last year in December targetting to raise over US$120 000 to purchase an armoured vehicle for Chamisa.

The initiative was launched after Chamisa’s convoy was attacked by suspected ZANU PF supporters and State security agents during his meet-the-people tours in Masvingo and Manicaland provinces.

Juma Ulete, who is leading the initiative, on Monday told NewsDay that the project to purchase Chamisa’s bulletproof vehicle was still on. Said Ulete:

The campaign was started by citizens who were concerned over Chamisa’s safety. It was introduced way before the CCC was formed and the opposition is a mere beneficiary.

The funds were only released last week after we experienced administrative hitches, which were triggered by ZANU PF which had complained to GoFundMe in California, the United States of America that Chamisa was organising funds politically to purchase an armoured vehicle.

We are citizens who raised this money, not for a political party. We raised this money for a citizen whose name is Nelson Chamisa.

We started this fundraising on October 13, 2021, before CCC was formed, hence it does not have any ties to CCC.

We, as citizens, noticed that there is no even playing field in Zimbabwean politics.

GoFundMe was supposed to give us the money around December when we reached the target, but ZANU PF was bombarding the campaign saying why are these people politically fundraising?

Ulete said the funds were eventually released to CAC by GoFundMe last week.

He added that they had already met Chamisa and his security team to decide on the type of vehicle they wanted.

However, ZANU PF director for information Tafadzwa Mugwadi denied allegations that his party tried to sabotage CAC’s GoFundMe initiative.

ZEP Holders Lose Jobs In South Africa

By- South African employers have ordered Zimbabwean nationals using the Zimbabwean Exemption Permit (ZEP) to pack their bags and prepare to go back home.

Chief Executive for the National Employers’ Association of South Africa, Gerhard Papenfus, said it is wrong and immoral that thousands of Zimbabweans, who are reliable employees, will lose their jobs. Said Papenfus:

There are different kinds of permits and visas and to make sure that your employees fall under this dispensation then you need to be prepared to terminate those employees’ services at the end of the year which is in our view very wrong.

It’s very unfortunate because these are very valuable employees in the hospital sector so business is very unhappy with this arrangement.

They work very hard and are very reliable. So this is a loss for the country, it’s very wrong and I think it’s immoral. So losing good employees is very difficult.

In November 2021, South Africa’s cabinet decided to end special permits that allow close to 180 000 Zimbabweans to live and work in the country.

The ZEPs were granted to Zimbabweans who moved to South Africa before 2009.

The temporary measure was meant to regularise their presence in the country and allow Zimbabweans access to services such as banking.

The one-year grace period expires at the end of 2022. The SA government says that in December all people under the permit, who fail to get other permits, must leave the country.

Egypt Dzinemunenzva Fights ZEC Nomination Fees In Court

By Jane Mlambo| Opposition leader Egypt Dzinemunenzva has partnered former ZINASU Secretary General to approach the High Court challenging the steep nomination fees announced by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) last week Friday.

Announcing the move, Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights who filed the papers on behalf of the two had this to say;

“On behalf of opposition leader Egypt Dzinemunhenzva, @Katazamhondoro & pro-democracy activist @tapchiriga97, we have been instructed to demand that @ZECzim & @MoJLPA should within 72 hours withdraw exorbitant nomination fees gazetted last week.

“The aggrieved parties’ lawyer @obeyshava1 of @ZLHRLawyers told @ZECzim &Justice Minister Hon Ziyambi that the regulations amending the nomination fees for 2023 elections are unconstitutional, unreasonable&have effect of blocking aspiring candidates from participating in elections,” ZLHR said.

“It’s Just A Decoy!”

By Nomusa Garikai- All candidates will be charged the following fees presidential US$20 000 up from US$ 1 000, MP US$1 000 up from US$100 and senator and councillor US$200 from no charge.

The fees will discourage “chancers” according to a ZEC official. I think there is a more sinister motive behind the announcement!

There are four things one can be absolutely certain about Zanu PF regarding these 2023 elections:
a) After 42 years in power and with the country is total meltdown, the ordinary people are so desperate for change, “they would vote for a donkey if Mnangagwa and the donkey were the only names on the ballot!” to paraphrase Professor Jonathan Moyo. That is, if elections were free which they are not.

b) Zanu PF is blatantly rigging these elections by which I mean the party is not just using a loaded dice but one with 6s on all six sides. They want a 6, they will throw a 6!

c) As much as Zanu PF feels it has no choice but to rig these elections to stay in power, the party knows that the opposition must fully participate in these flawed and illegal elections if it is to get political legitimacy from its SADC and AU compeers.

Zanu PF suffered the humiliation of being forced to accept a GNU in 2008 when the regional and continental bodies, for the first ever, refused to endorse that year’s blatantly rigged elections.

So Zanu PF is once again blatantly rigging the elections, on the one hand. On the other, the party is doing everything to ensure as many in the opposition participate.

Mugabe saw to it that the opposition were allowed to win a few gravy train seats in elections since 2013; no more clean sweep win for Zanu PF. Mnangagwa has since added to this by creating POLAD to reward the losing presidential candidates.

d) Mischief! Zanu PF leaders are devious and manipulative. Like T S Elliot’s Macavity the mystery cat, when you think Zanu PF is fast asleep, they are wide awake!

So why would Zanu PF, who are blatantly rigging the 2023 elections and are as keen as mustard to see as many opposition parties participate in the flawed and illegal process to get legitimacy, shoot themselves in the foot by charging these exorbitant fees certain to force many out of the rat race?
Answer! The exorbitant election candidate fees hike is just a decoy.

Whilst the many political opposition players and critics alike have been venting their outrage at the fees; they are not talking about the real big issues such as failure to produce a verified voters roll and many other blatant vote rigging shenanigans.
Zanu PF used the white farm invasion as a diversional tactic in the period 2000 to 2015, for example. The farm invasions, “jambanja” as the locals called them, flared up towards elections with the accompanying gratuitous violence directed at the white farmers and their workers but always ended up spilling over to encompass all suspected opposition supporters in rural and urban centres. Jambanja was just a smoke screen to hide the nationwide violence against the regime’s political opponents country wide.
Zanu PF is blatantly rigging the 2023 elections and will stop at nothing to draw attention away from the rigging. Watch out!

Zanu PF Meeting Marred By Chaos

There was chaos at a ZANU PF Mazowe District Coordinating Committee (DCC) rally at Gweshe in Chiweshe on Sunday where DCC was campaigning for President Emmerson Mnangagwa ahead of the 2023 harmonised elections.

Hell broke loose when DCC chairperson Tafadzwa Musarara castigated premature electioneering and vote buying by some potential candidates.

Drunk party supporters aligned to underfire Cottco executive Maxwell Njanji disrupted proceedings and interjected Musarara when he said the DCC was only campaigning for Mnangwagwa and primary elections for aspiring candidates are not yet open.

The youths accused Musarara of being behind the arrest of Njanji who is an aspiring candidate for Mazowe Central.

“Musarara be silent we know you are behind the arrest of our candidate because you are eying Mazowe Central,” shouted the youths.

“You will not succeed because Njanji is our favourite now you are denouncing him, this rally should end.”

Some party youths managed to stop the noise after party security intervened.

However, Njanji who is on bail facing corruption charges has been accused of vote buying and channeling Cottco resources to prop up his campaign and potential bid for the Mazowe Central parliamentary seat.

Mnangagwa’s Re-Election Bid Divides Zanu PF Ahead Of October Congress

President Emmerson Mnangagwa is seeking re-election as Zanu-PF leader and party presidential candidate for elections next year amid signs of discomfort within the former liberation movement over his continued suitability for the top job at a time the economy is on a free fall.

Zanu-PF is set to hold its elective congress in Harare from 26-29 October this year.

Short of any super dramatic events towards congress, the Zimbabwe incumbent looks safe for now as there has not been any party official who has emerged in the past five years to challenge for his party job.

Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, viewed as potential successor to Mnangagwa within Zanu-PF, has never made his ambitions public.

However, former party firebrands Godfrey Tsenengamu and Jimu Kunaka have done the bidding for Chiwenga, insisting it was his time to take over following what they insist was an agreement between Mnangagwa and the former Zimbabwe military boss to pass him the baton after five years.

Zanu-PF activist Sybeth Musengezi in 2021 went to the courts to challenge Mnangagwa’s ascendency to power after a coup in 2017.

Mnangagwa, a long time suitor for his late predecessor Robert Mugabe’s job, was in 2017 endorsed as party leader after he had muscled his way to the top of both party and country in a soft coup against the ex-leader.

The wily politician is keen to suppress internal dissent in his party, first with the 2020 expulsion of Tsenengamu who openly challenged his failure to resolve the country’s myriad economic challenges.

Recently, Malcom Musarira, an activist in Mutare, exposed the growing despondency via a party WhatsApp group that Mnangagwa was plunging the country into the abyss.

He was arrested for that.

Unless Chiwenga stakes up a bid for Mnangagwa’s job, the VP could also be seeking to retain his current post.

The VP, whose health woes are a matter of public record, recently went overboard to deny he was consulting doctors over fresh health challenges.

Chiwenga is keen to present a healthy face fearing his woes could torpedo his ambitions for the country’s most coveted job in future.

Zanu-PF would also be keen to finally resolve the second state vice presidency post after Kembo Mohadi was forced to give up the job in the face of a murky sex scandal 2020.

Any continued vacancy in the former PF ZAPU side of Zanu-PF will be considered a violation of the unity accord signed between the former rivals – Zanu and PF Zapu – in 1987.

The Zanu-PF congress will also elect leaders for party organs which include the youth, women and war veterans leagues.

Congress will also elect central committee members.

Commenting on the upcoming congress, party director for information and publicity Tafadzwa Mugwadi took aim at the party’s main rivals who are yet to hold their own elective process after a surprise break from MDC to reconstitute as CCC.

“Unlike other mushrooming, moribund political parties, Zanu-PF is a revolutionary party with established practices, positions, codified in the party’s constitution and one such tradition is the National People’s Congress,” he said.

Under Pressure Zanu PF Begging Chiefs For Support

Zanu PF second secretary Kembo Mohadi, who is on a countrywide tour to meet chiefs, headmen and village heads, has pleaded with them to support the ruling party.

On Sunday, Mohadi visited Gokwe South, where he addressed chiefs, headmen and village heads, telling them that the country only has one party called Zanu PF.

Several Gokwe Zanu PF legislators attended the event which was snubbed by Gokwe-Kana legislator and former State Security minister Owen “Mudha” Ncube. Public Service minister Paul Mavhima arrived late when the master of ceremony Tawanda Karikoga, who is the Zanu PF district chairperson, had already acknowledged his absence.

Mohadi, who resigned after messy sex scandals, said: “Please we are asking you our chiefs, headmen and village heads to develop your organisation (Zanu PF). Zanu PF is your party, did you know that? Know it from today that Zanu PF is your party. We want to fight this war against the West fronted opposition.

“Zanu PF liberated this country. Did you know that this party is yours? We want you to increase the number of people to vote Zanu PF. Did you hear we want five million votes next year? We want them to vote for Zanu PF and through you, we know we will achieve that.”

While claiming that some chiefs, headmen and village heads were afraid to express their allegiance to Zanu PF, Mohadi told the traditional leaders that some unnamed people would be coming to the villages to work with them registering all villagers in Zanu PF books.

“This is your party and we want you to forgive those who come back to Zanu PF. We are asking you forgiveness again that our children will come to work with you in your areas to organise you in your areas, so please accept them,” the former Vice-President said.

“We want every village head to give us people we will check according to your register … If we are organised, we will rule until the donkeys have horns. Some opposition said we had done a coup and that we are a military government, but we don’t care.”

He warned village heads against registering the identity documents of people who were dead and those in the diaspora to hoodwink the party that it had supporters.

Turning to factional fights in the ruling party, he declared: “VaMavhima siyanai nenyaya ye (Cde Mavhima, stop fomenting) factionalism. I said Mavhima because he is the leader of the district.”

The previous day, Mohadi had addressed chiefs, village heads and headmen in Gokwe North.

ERC Concerned Over ZEC Fees Hike

By A Correspondent- The Election Resource Centre (ERC) has expressed its concern about the increase in fees for external oversight by Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC).

Last week ZEC revised Presidential Nomination Fees from US$1 000 to US$20 000, and Parliamentary Nomination Fees from US$50 to US$1 000.

ERC said in a statement:

ERC notes with grave concern the amendments to fees for the nominations of candidates, accreditation of observers and to access the voters roll by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC).

The price increases do not seem to consider the importance of ensuring access to electoral processes by all citizens of Zimbabwe.

While the Electoral Body is within the confines of the law in increasing presidential and parliamentary nomination fees, the price increase has a bearing on electoral participation.

ERC also challenged ZEC to address key and pressing electoral reforms that remain outstanding instead of introducing measures that hinder participation.

Said ERC:

The newly introduced charges do not seem to promote openness, transparency and accountability in the electoral process.

As the country prepares for the 2023 Harmonised elections, the Electoral Commission must revisit the reform agenda and accordingly advise Parliament on priorities to facilitate better elections in Zimbabwe.

ERC identified several reforms that ZEC should prioritise. These are:

  • Strengthening electoral administration processes including enhancing voter registration in under-registered districts; undertaking comprehensive voter education and more effective information by the Commission with election stakeholders
  • Reform the ZEC by looking at the commission’s personnel, practices and administration.
  • Alignment of electoral laws to the Constitution.
  • Reform the conduct of the state media in electoral processes.
  • Reform the conduct of the traditional leaders in political processes.

Grandpa Killed By Veldfire

By A Correspondent- An 80 year old security guard from Plumstead Farm, Banket, was on 19 August killed by a runaway veld fire and his corpse charred beyond recognition.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) said the now-deceased, Sakatiza Mariza, was on his way home from his workplace when he was burnt.

ZRP spokesperson Mashonaland West Province Inspector Margaret Chitove confirmed the incident to NewZimbabwe.com Monday. She said:

The now deceased was on his way home from his workplace at St John’s Farm in Banket. As he approached Plumstead Farm, a veld fire quickly spread towards him and he was burnt beyond recognition while trying to run away.

Later that day, Isiah Mutero of Plot 4 Plumstead Farm, who was driving through observed a human-like figure lying lifeless and stopped to investigate.

He noticed it was a male body burnt beyond recognition and alerted villagers at a nearby farm compound.

The victim’s 34-year-old son, Costa Mariza, rushed to the scene and positively identified his father’s remains

A half-burnt cellphone belonging to the deceased was found beside the corpse.

Police from Banket Police Station attended the scene and Mariza’s body was conveyed to Banket District Hospital for post-mortem.

Insp Chitove urged members of the public to desist from starting unnecessary fires and also to put fireguards around homesteads, fields and paddocks to avoid loss of lives and property.

We Dont Know These People, CCC Disowns Paraded People At Zanu PF Rally

The Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) in Matabeleland South province has disowned 30 people who were paraded last Friday by Zanu-PF, which claimed they had defected from the Nelson Chamisa-led opposition party.

The State media yesterday reported that Zanu-PF leadership in Matabeleland South welcomed more than 30 defectors from CCC in Gwanda.

The alleged defectors said they were enticed by President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s developmental agenda.

But CCC chairperson for Matabeleland South Solani Moyo yesterday dismissed the claims saying the 30 were never CCC members.

“The reports are a surprise to me. We do not know those people who were paraded. We have no members who we know who have defected to Zanu-PF,” Moyo said.

“I have checked with our structures in Gwanda and they are saying they do not know those people. The whole thing is a lie, and the truth is people are tired of Zanu-PF,” he said.

Moyo said CCC would win all the wards up for grabs in September 3 by-elections. These include wards 1, 14 and 16.

One of the alleged defectors, Precious Nhliziyo said they were coming back home to Zanu-PF because they were lost in the CCC party.

“What we need is development in our area, which is what the ruling party is offering and convincing us that we should come back home,” Nhliziyo said.

Zanu-PF member Lungisani Ncube claimed that he met the defectors while sharing Mnangagwa’s developmental programmes in the district.

Zanu-PF Matabeleland South provincial chairperson Nqobizitha Mangaliso Ndlovu welcomed the defectors saying Zanu-PF was open to everyone.

“You have come in your numbers and I have no doubt that it’s because of President Mnangagwa’s development drive to prosper our country. Our President has been calling on all of us to be at the forefront of building our nation,” Ndlovu said.

Towards elections, Zanu-PF often parades dozens of people it claims would have defected from opposition parties.

Its Not A Party Initiative, Fundraiser Defends Chamisa On Bullet Proof

Organisers of the GoFundMe campaign to buy an armored vehicle for opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa have distanced him and the party from the initiative, saying it was a private project.

The project is being spearheaded by a group called Citizens Action for Change (CAC), which introduced the initiative last year in December before Chamisa launched the CCC party.

The aim of the initiative was to raise over US$120 000 to purchase an armoured vehicle for Chamisa after his convoy was attacked by suspected Zanu-PF supporters and State security agents during his meet-the-people tours in the country’s rural areas.

In Mutare, Chamisa’s convoy was shot at on October 19, 2021, jolting the GoFundMe initiative, led by Juma Ulete, into action.

Yesterday, Ulete told NewsDay that the project to purchase Chamisa’s bullet proof vehicle was still on and that CAC had recently met Chamisa to make arrangements to hand over the funds.

“The campaign was started by citizens who were concerned over Chamisa’s safety. It was introduced way before the CCC was formed and the opposition is a mere beneficiary. The funds were only released last week after we experienced administrative hitches, which were triggered by Zanu-PF which had complained to GoFundMe in California, the United States of America that Chamisa was organising funds politically to purchase an armoured vehicle,” Ulete said.

“We are citizens who raised this money, not for a political party. We raised this money for a citizen whose name is Nelson Chamisa. We started this fundraising on October 13, 2021 before CCC was formed, hence it does not have any ties to CCC. We, as citizens, noticed that there is no even playing field in Zimbabwean politics.

“GofFundMe was supposed to give us the money around December when we reached the target, but Zanu-PF was bombarding the campaign saying why are these people politically fundraising?”

Ulete said the funds were eventually released to CAC by GoFundMe last week, and they had already met Chamisa and his security team to decide on the type of vehicle they wanted.

Zanu-PF director for information Tafadzwa Mugwadi responded by alleging that CCC always uses the ruling party as scapegoats for its failures.

“In 2018, Chamisa who was leading the then MDC Alliance ahead of the elections, swindled his supporters through another GoFundMe initiative, where millions were embezzled and never reached their election agents for whom that GoFundMe initiative had been taken. It is in their DNA, and they are always using the excuse of being in opposition to dodge accountability and transparency,” Mugwadi said.

“One wonders what kind of an alternative they are when they steal in broad daylight from their supporters. When asked to account, they point fingers at Zanu-PF as if they share bank accounts with Zanu-PF. Now, if they can be easily possessed by stealing demons and reach orgasm at the sight of US$120 000, you can imagine when they are in charge of the national cash box.”

Marry Mubaiwa Is Surviving Through Grace Of God, Says Mother

Helga Mubaiwa, mother to Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga’s former wife, Marry Mubaiwa, has opened up on her daughter’s ordeal saying she is surviving through God’s grace as she goes through a very rough patch.

Marry, who is bed-ridden, has been dragged to court on allegations of forging her marriage to Chiwenga, plotting to kill the VP while he was sick and admitted at a hospital in South Africa, money laundering and assaulting her maid, among several other allegations.

She was issued with a warrant of arrest for failing to climb the court stairs to attend a hearing after she came to court in an ambulance. She was later wheeled into court on a stretcher.

Helga told Alpha Media Holdings’ Heart & Soul Television (HStv) last Thursday during the Freetalk programme that her daughter was being victimised as evidenced by the selective application of the law.

She said Marry, who is visibly sick was receiving harsh treatment from the courts.

“Currently, she is not feeling well. I can say she is critically ill; and she is not speaking. Even yesterday (last Wednesday) at court, she was in a wheelchair, she was drowsy and she didn’t even know where she was. But because we had to take her to court, we had to find means to do so,” Helga said.

“My daughter’s predicament is a difficult one; and seeing her in this helpless state breaks my heart. Her hand is, indeed, lifeless, but we couldn’t consent on her behalf. We are trying to talk to her to get it removed. She is not in the right state of mind. It is difficult even to persuade her to do so,” she said.

Marry’s mother said she felt let down by the country’s justice system as her daughter was being deprived of basic human rights.

“Every human being deserves the same treatment, rich or poor. For Marry, I don’t think she is getting enough fairness in everything,” she said.

Helga said they were unable to voice their plight because they were powerless, voiceless and helpless.

Before she lost favour with Chiwenga, and soon after he became VP, Marry was in the headlines for referring to her office as the office of the Second Lady of Zimbabwe.

Further asked about her daughter’s constitutional rights, Helga said: “I don’t know about that, and I don’t know whether there is anything of that sort. Marry is being treated differently and it’s difficult in her situation. There is some acknowledgement because they do not put her in the dock as usual; they just do the court proceedings while she is in the wheelchair, which means they know and acknowledge that she is not well.”

She said Marry currently had no source of income as her bank accounts were frozen and has no access to her businesses.

Helga feels that if Marry receives treatment outside the country, she may recover.

“I am sure going to South Africa would help. Doctors attending to her here have tried their best, but it is not enough,” she said.

Last week, opposition MPs grilled acting leader of the House in the National Assembly, Monica Mutsvangwa over Marry’s continued arraignment before the courts when she is visibly ill.

Mutsvangwa could not give a satisfactory answer.

Human rights groups and women pressure groups have been criticised for their silence on her ordeal.

Lawless Zanu PF Vendors Allocate Themselves Bays In CBD

Zanu-PF affiliated vendors in Bulawayo have claimed they were forced to take matters into their hands when they allocated themselves vending bays along the city’s Fifth Avenue because the Bulawayo City Council (BCC) was being nepotistic.

This is quite an interesting, if not shocking, admission by those in the ruling party that they are at liberty to break the law with impunity.

Surely, even if BCC was discriminating in allocating vending bays to those requiring them, this did not give the vendors the licence to invade Fifth Avenue and literally close the road.

Is this not the reason why there is so much chaos in our urban areas, when those in the ruling party have this misguided audacity to act above the law?

The Zanu-PF vendors also claim that some people from BCC collect at least US$2 everyday from the illegal Fifth Avenue vendors, allegations flatly denied by BCC. Given that these vendors are there illegally, we are tempted to believe the local authority. The vendors, after criminally settling themselves in Fifth Avenue now demand to be relocated to more suitable operating spaces.

This is hardly surprising given the fact that it is in the public domain that Zanu-PF has been linked to the hordes of land barons unlawfully parcelling out residential stands in urban areas to desperate home seekers.

The actions by the Fifth Avenue vendors vindicate assertions by critics that Zanu-PF has gone rogue in the urban areas where it long lost control to the opposition.

In our view, the ruling Zanu-PF party should come clean on this lawlessness, not only in Bulawayo, but across most, if not all, local authorities.

Maybe all this emanated from the bloody and chaotic 2000 land invasions, which appear to have given all and sundry in the ruling party the right to settle everywhere and anywhere they so choose.

In Harare, for instance, we hear of Zanu-PF youths who have reportedly overrun council properties such as flea markets, vegetable markets and even parking bays in some streets. Councils are obviously losing revenue through these shameful shenanigans by those with links to the ruling party.

It is scandalous on the part of Zanu-PF to create and foment chaos in the urban areas it does not control and then turn around and blame the councils for allowing lawlessness.

So far Zanu-PF and its government have been vainly throwing spanners into the works of urban councils with the hope that the urban dwellers vote out the opposition councillors.

The folly has reached such jaw-dropping levels that the Zanu-PF government recently sourced fire tenders for councils and exorbitantly charged them for the vehicles. Worse, the government is telling the councils to park whatever plans they had for devolution funds and use them to buy the expensive fire tenders from Belarus.

And all this speaks to a ruling party which has no respect whatsoever for the rule of law.

Madhuku Raises Election Rigging Alarm

By- National Constitutional Assembly (NCA), President Lovemore Madhuku, has blasted the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) for charging exorbitant fees to candidates and parties to contest next year’s elections.

ZEC set candidate nomination fees at US$20 000, US$1 000 and US$200 for aspiring presidential, Members of Parliament, and councillors, respectively.

Speaking during a press briefing held in Harare on Monday, Madhuku said ZEC could not make fundamental decisions regarding who can be candidates.

He added that individuals have political rights guaranteed in Zimbabwe’s Constitution (Section 67) to campaign for office and not to be shut out of electoral processes. Said Madhuku:

Who is ZEC to be coming up with these decisions? These decisions ought to be made in the constitution as to who qualifies.

Our constitution does not say amounts that have to be paid as it just talks about the requirements one must meet to contest.

Even when you go through the Electoral Act it provides for some nominal fees that ought to be paid but what ZEC has done is substantive.

It’s a power ZEC is exercising as if it were a legislative body yet it doesn’t have the power to do that.

If we allow ZEC to have that power, then there will be no need for us to have a parliament.

Surely the regulations that ZEC has brought are the kind of regulations that ought to be debated by the public and there was no such public debate.

No Zimbabwean was ever asked to express a view. We didn’t even know this was in the pipeline.

Madhuku claimed that ZEC was taking Zimbabwe back to the dark years of the colonial era when a 1961 constitution disenfranchised black people because they did not have properties to qualify as voters. He said:

The colonial constitution would pretend Blacks were allowed to vote and were allowed to be MPs but one had to show a property qualification and own something.

It was known Blacks would not own that property. If you have US$20 000, this is a property qualification where you show you have some money.

We have already fought for these rights. ZEC must simply run elections not for them to go this far.

Our blame goes straight and exclusively to ZEC. We believe in this case; it misunderstood its powers and that’s a sign of incompetence.

… Our position as the NCA is this is ridiculous, totally unacceptable, unconstitutional and undemocratic.

Sikhala Spends 70 Days Behind Bars

By- The opposition CCC top officials, Job Sikhala and Godfrey Sithole, have now clocked 70 days in remand prison since their arrest over two months ago.

The two and a dozen other Nyatsime CCC activists were Monday again denied bail.

Sikhala and Sithole are being charged with obstructing the course of justice.

Harare magistrate Mrs Feresi Chakanyuka dismissed the duo’s application after noting no changed circumstances from June 17 when their first bail application was also dismissed.
Sikhala and Sithole, through their lawyers Mr Jeremiah Bamu and Ms Beatrice Mtetwa had mounted a fresh bail bid based on fluxion of time.
They had also argued that ZimLive had written a letter confirming that Sikhala had not posted a video on the Online platform.
The two had also told the court that there were other people who were arrested for causing the violence that occurred in Nyatsime following the killing of Moreblessing Ali.
In their application, they had argued that some owners of the trucks that the State alleges were hired by Sithole were also arrested in connection with the violence.
The State led by Mr Lancelot Mutsokoti had opposed the application.

Mohadi In Election Rigging Storm

By-Former Vice President Kembo Mohadi is meeting with chiefs, headmen and village heads, telling them to mobilise support for Zanu PF.

Odinga Takes Ruto Head-On

By Reuters – Veteran opposition leader Raila Odinga has filed a case with Supreme Court challenging Kenya’s presidential election results.

In the petition, Odinga asks the court to nullify the vote’s outcome on several grounds, including a mismatch between the turnout figures and the result and alleges the election commission failed to tally ballots from 27 constituencies, rendering the result unverifiable and unaccountable.

“We have enough evidence to prove all of the criminality that occurred,” Odinga told a news conference after the filing. “We are confident that in the end, the truth will be revealed.”

This is Odinga’s fifth stab at the presidency; he blamed several previous losses on rigging. Those disputes triggered violence that claimed more than 100 lives in 2017 and more than 1,200 lives in 2007.

Last week the election commissioner declared Odinga’s rival, Deputy President William Ruto, had won the Aug. 9 election by a slim margin, but four out of seven election commissioners dissented, saying the tallying of results had not been transparent.

The commission, its chairman and Ruto have four days to respond to Odinga’s claims through court filings.

Last week Odinga said the results were a “travesty” but said he would settle the dispute in court and urged supporters to remain peaceful. His supporters have said the results were the outcome of intentional fraud by election authorities. The election commission has denied any wrongdoing. read more

In 2017, the Supreme Court overturned the election result and ordered a re-run, which Odinga boycotted, saying he had no faith in the election commission.

This time, Odinga is backed by the political establishment. President Uhuru Kenyatta endorsed Odinga’s candidacy after falling out with Ruto after the last election.

Kenya’s opposition leader and presidential candidate Raila Odinga, of the Azimio La Umoja (Declaration of Unity) One Kenya Alliance, and his running-mate Martha Karua arrive to file a petition challenging the presidential election result at the Supreme Court in Nairobi, Kenya August 22, 2022.

At stake is control of East Africa’s wealthiest and most stable nation, home to regional headquarters for firms like General Electric, Google, and Uber. Kenya also provides peacekeepers for neighbouring Somalia and frequently hosts peace talks for other nations in the turbulent East Africa region.

The case will be heard by the seven-member Supreme Court and presided over by Martha Koome, Kenya’s first female chief justice, who was appointed by Kenyatta last year. read more

The court will next conduct a status conference with all parties to define the hearing schedule and ground rules. The constitution requires judges to issue their decision within 14 days of the lawsuit being filed.

Due to the tight schedule, it normally issues a summary judgment within 14 days, followed by more thorough decisions from each of the seven judges at a later date.

THE DISPUTE

One week ago, electoral commission chairman Wafula Chebukati declared Ruto the winner with 50.49% of the vote against Odinga’s 48.5%.

But minutes earlier, his deputy Juliana Cherera had told media at a separate location that she and three other commissioners disowned the results. read more

She said the elections had been conducted in a proper manner – and most international observers agreed – but that results were erroneously aggregated. read more

Public confusion reigned over the tallying after the Kenyan media suspended a count of 46,229 polling-station level results with around 80% of the vote counted.

The election commission’s website still does not display the correct forms for all 291 constituencies. In some cases, the form is incomplete or only partially loaded, making it impossible for the public to confirm the commission’s count.

Prominent Farmer Shoots Self

DETAILS have emerged of how a Marondera millionaire farmer, Stanley Masaiti (65) committed suicide on August 20 at his brother’s gate.

The new details are contrary to social media reports that Masaiti first gunned down his younger brother, Daniel, before shooting himself.

Stanley and Daniel are siblings, with the former having been a famous tobacco farmer at Mhembwe Farm, outside Marondera.

Daniel owns some shops in Marondera and Macheke, among them the popular entertainment spot Chipiwa Gardens.

Daniel (56) operates his bussinesses under Danchip Enterprises.

NewsDay has it on good authority that there had been a long-running wrangle between the two brothers since 2017. The now deceased Stanley reportedly accused Daniel of stealing US$3 million from him.

Daniel once worked as the farm administrator before he left the business.

The deceased then approached the High Court to settle the matter under HC2640/17.

It is reported that on August 20, at around 5am, Stanley asked his brother Mutsa Masaiti (59) to accompany him to Chipiwa Gardens and he accepted.

Upon arrival, Stanley then ordered his brother to drive back while he remained by the gate.

Mutsa drove off.

At 6:25am, Stanley posted a notice that he had written in a Marondera WhatsApp crime group asking Daniel and his wife to return his money.

The WhatsApp group comprises police officers, businesspeople and journalists in Marondera.

It is reported that five minutes later, a security guard at Chipiwa Gardens, who was carrying out routine checks around the premises, noticed that Stanley was standing at the gate.

The security guard then heard a gunshot from where Stanley was standing and saw him falling down.

The security guard informed Daniel of the incident, who then alerted the police who arrived at the scene and observed that Stanley’s body had a gunshot wound on the forehead.

He was lying in a pool of blood. A pistol with 15 rounds of ammunition was found between the deceased’s legs.

In a statement, Danchip Enterprises said Daniel was not at the premises during the suicide incident.

“On Saturday, August 20, 2022, we woke up to the heart-breaking news of a fatal shooting at Chipiwa Gardens. The deceased, Mr Stanley Masaiti, shot himself, and the circumstances of the incident are being investigated by the respective authorities.

“The owners of the Chipiwa Gardens, Mr Daniel Masaiti and his wife Chipiwa Masaiti, were not present at the time of the incident, and reports that Mr Daniel Masaiti was shot by his brother, Mr Stanley Masaiti before turning the gun on himself are not true,” the statement read.

Ndebele Slams Piracy

Veteran sungura musician Somandla “Mafia” Ndebele, who fronts Denda Brothers, is disappointed because music piracy has left artistes poor.

Mafia, as he is popularly referred by his fans, bemoaned that while their profession was energy sapping, their sweats are being enjoyed by street vendors selling their music.

“Our biggest challenge as musicians is the issue of piracy,” Ndebele said.

“We have noted that almost 98% of our music is being sold in the street corners at giveaway prices making it hard for musicians to eke out a living from their sweat.

“One thing of great concern is that fake accounts of musicians are being created on social media, particularly on YouTube and Facebook without the musician’s knowledge.”

The 50-year-old musician added: “My wish is that government should intervene and put a stop to all those selling CDs in the street so that they can save the music industry which is slowly disintegrating due to the effect of the ravaging piracy. If this is done at least musicians can earn a living.”

As a way of showing his anger towards piracy, Ndebele released an album which he named Kurimira Hanga.

Zimbabwe Music Rights Association (Zimura) executive director Polisile Ncube-Chimhini said selling CDs on the streets was illegal.

“Piracy is copyright infringement and it is not confined to the illegal reproduction and sale of pirated discs. It also includes broadcasting music, public performance of music without the authority of the copyright owner,” Ncube-Chimhini said.

“Zimura discourages its clients from using pirated music, we tell them what pirated music is and how they can play music publicly without committing piracy.

“Hence, you will find that most of our clients are no longer using pirated discs but playing via streaming channels.

“We educate our clients against such practices during our licensing activities and through workshops being conducted countrywide, artists are also taught about their rights, that way they can identify and claim ownership of their works where they are pirated and seek redress.”

The Denda Brothers frontman is set to release his 25th album in September that is yet to be named.

“I am planning to release a new six-track album in September, but I haven’t got the title as of now,” he said.

“The album is mainly about social life and I expect it to be a better project than my previous productions.”

The Kwekwe-born and now Dzivaresekwa-based musician started his musical career with Wiriranai Sounds in 1986 where he was the band leader.

He released seven-single such as Chido Chemoyo flip side Mandiomesera (1988), Baba Vevana flip side Nhamo Dzakasiyana (1989) and Phumzile flip side Vakawanda Vakarambana.

However, Ndebele decided to change the name of his band Wiriranai Sounds to Denda Brothers.

“In 1992 I changed my band to Denda Brothers meaning a long spell of illness, therefore, I took it upon myself that my love for music was like that of a sick person with a very long illness which has prolonged for too long, hence the name Denda came into mind,” he said.

“In that same year I released my first album Ndingazviite Sei and the video using the name Denda Brothers and the rest is now history.”

To date Mafia has channelled out 24 great albums such as Ngatifare, Marwadzo, Kuvaka Musha, Zvamauya Zvanaka and Mwoyo Wekurera that he did with Tongai Moyo just to mention a few.

Mnangagwa Proves Smith Right

Mnangagwa regime now agrees with Smith when he said, “democracy isn’t the counting of heads like sheep”!

by Tendai Ruben Mbofana

As I was studying ZEC spokesperson, Jasper Mangwana, struggle and stutter in his faltered attempts at justifying the exorbitant and extortionary fees recently announced by the country’s electoral commission, I could not help feeling that the Zimbabwe government was now finally and officially sounding exactly like Rhodesia Prime Minister Ian Douglas Smith.

How things have drastically changed, right in front of our eyes!

‘Animal Farm’ was truly a work of pure genius – in its accurate capture of how a supposed liberator can so easily morph into the very image and likeness of the oppressor he removed.

Furthermore, as events in Zimbabwe play out, it becomes clearer how those who perceived themselves as the emancipator could transform without apparently even noticing what and who they had become – to the extent of justifying the same dastardly things they once found unacceptable, and condemned outrightly.

So, the ‘independent’ Zimbabwe government, led by Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, earnestly believes that setting outrageous and shocking astronomical registration fees for presidential and parliamentary electoral candidates – at US$20,000 and US$1,000 respectively – is an astute way of vetting authentic contenders, as opposed to mere ‘chancers’?

In the ‘brilliant’ minds of those in power in this country – pegging fees that are undeniably out of reach of the majority, is intended for prospective bearers “to show commitment to the office they are contesting for”!

Wow, so in other words, only the wealthy are the ones who would be able to show this commitment – since, clearly the vast majority of Zimbabweans are finding it extremely impossible to make ends meet, even unable to pay school fees for their children.

In fact, Mangwana went further questioning, “how will one administer the budgets/allocated devolution funds at council if their only qualification and commitment is that they are 18 years old and a Zimbabwean citizen”?

As far as the Mnangagwa administration is concerned, only those with money are educated and competent enough to administer budgets – and, anyone else, no matter how many university degrees they may possess and exceptional experience under their belts, but as long as they can not afford these illogical fees, they are effectively illiterate and ignorant.

Therefore, if I want to run as president, on an independent ticket – genuinely believing that I have what it takes to take this country to a higher level – my inability to raise US$20,000 renders me incompetent and lacking the commitment to govern.

Such reasoning is not only sickening and primitive, but also smacks of a regime that has lost its marbles, and tittering on the brink of insanity.

I am reminded of the statement by Smith – after the tightening of laws regulating the eligibility of those seeking to vote in Rhodesian elections, which demanded conditions which were undoubtedly out of the reach of the vast majority of black voters.

To be included on the ‘B’ Roll, they were required to own immovable property worthy $1,306, or had been earning an annual salary of $739 for at least two years, as well as being able to read and write (in a country where most black people were illiterate, the average annual income for a black person was less than $319, and could not afford any immovable property).

On the other hand, the so-called ‘A’ Roll (whereby, one was required to earn $2,218 per annum, and own immovable property worth $4,620), of the 95,000 registered to vote, 90,800 were of white, coloured (mixed race), and Asian decent, whose average annual salary was $3,428.

What was Smith’s justification for such unashamed disenfranchisement of potential black voters?

Well, he is reported to have said, “democracy wasn’t the counting of heads like sheep” – and, there was need for any who desired to exercise their right to vote, to show enough learning and understanding of what exactly they are voting for.

At the time, our nationalist and liberation movements perceived this as nothing more than an unpardonable insult on the black population – whereby, they were obviously considered too daft to fully comprehend ‘complex’ issues of politics and matters of state, unless if they were relatively wealthy.

In fact, this was one of the major factors leading to the armed war of independence – premised on the concept of ‘one man one vote’, and ‘majority rule’.

Yet, today – the same nationalist and liberation movement is clamoring and defending the same discrimination that led them to take up guns, in the first place.

How can those in power in Zimbabwe reconcile the reasoning behind their senseless presidential and parliamentary electoral candidates’ registration fees, and what Smith said about his requirements for voter registration?

What is the difference?

Does the reckless insensitive statement by ZEC not sound eerily similar to that made by Smith.

Good old George’s Orwell was right, after all – too too right!

How easy it is for the liberator to eventually sound and act exactly as the oppressor!

“Free Wiwa”

Tinashe Sambiri| CCC deputy spokesperson Gift Ostallos Siziba has challenged the Zanu PF regime to release jailed party members with immediate effect.

According to Siziba, Job Wiwa Sikhala, Godfrey Karakadzai Sithole and the Nyatsime activists are victims of the regime’s brutality.

Siziba argues the incarceration of Wiwa and the Nyatsime activists is a reflection of Zanu PF desperate measures to thwart the people’s struggle.

See Siziba’s statement:

Job Wiwa Sikhala is a political prisoner. He has been in jail together with other 15 prisoners.

The regime has weaponized the law against its opponent. The abuse of the courts and judiciary to settle political scores is the problem.

I was taken aback to all the arrests that we have endured under the system since 1999.

I was once abducted, tortured and arrested together with Promise Mkwananzi Makomborero Haruzivishe and others.
We stayed in illegal detention for more that 3 months.

The regime wanted us down and out!

That’s their modus operendi.

We refused! We fought and we are still fighting!
There’s no struggle without bruises, there’s no struggle without pain.

They use pre-trial detention to break the spirit of Activists, saw division in the trenches and sponsor cynicism.

Now we have become more clever and ahead in our programming and think-tanking.

It this struggle we forge ahead no matter what.

Never dither, never waiver, never surrender!

Our task is to

  1. Increase the cost of authoritarian rule
  2. Resist any attempts to be co-opted
  3. Guard our zones of autonomy
  4. Continue to create a credible Alternative.

Until then we fight on!

ZEC Commissioner’s Dad Mohadi Says Vote ZANU PF

The father of one of the Zimbabwe Electoral Commissioners, Kembo Mohadi, who is on a countrywide tour to meet chiefs, headmen and village heads, has pleaded with them to support the ruling party.

Kembo-Mohadi

On Sunday, the ZANU PF second secretary visited Gokwe South, where he addressed chiefs, headmen and village heads, telling them that the country only has one party called Zanu PF.

Newsday

“Going rural!

Bail for Wadyajena As Sikhala Loses Remain Jailed

As the fraud accused ZANU PF MP Justice Wadyajena was granted bail, CCC members Job Sikhala and Godfrey Sithole, who are charged with obstructing the course of justice, yesterday lost their latest bail bid.

This was based on what they argued were changed circumstances, after a Harare magistrate dismissed their application saying nothing essential had changed since their initial court appearance.
Harare regional magistrate Mrs Feresi Chakanyuka dismissed the application after noting that there were no changed circumstances from June 17 when they first made a bail application which was turned down.

Sikhala and Sithole, through their lawyers Mr Jeremiah Bamu and Ms Beatrice Mtetwa, had mounted a fresh bail bid based on the passage of time and the fact that Sikhala had not been posting videos. ZimLive, an online news portal, had written a letter confirming that Sikhala had not posted a video on the online platform.

The two had also told the court that there were other people who were arrested for causing the violence that occurred in Nyatsime following the killing of Moreblessing Ali, whom they said supported their party.

The area was flooded with rumours that she went missing in a political attack, but it was found later that she had been grabbed and killed by a former boyfriend.

In their application, they had argued that some owners of the trucks that the State alleges were hired by Sithole were also arrested in connection with the violence.

The State led by Mr Lancelot Mutsokoti had opposed the application saying there was nothing that was placed before the court that warrants them to be released on bail.

In her ruling, Mrs Chakanyuka dismissed the application and the letter which Sikhala and Sithole said was written by ZimLive.

Mrs Chakanyuka said it was impossible for the court to make a finding on a document that was not placed before it.

“The court cannot make a finding on a document that is in the air,” she said.

Mrs Chakanyuka said the fact that there are other suspects arrested in connection with the same incident was not ample ground that warrants Sikhala and Sithole to be granted bail.

“It is the court’s view that those arguments do not amount to an exceptional circumstance because it does not work in favour of the applicants,” she said.

Mr Mutsokoti then applied that the two return to court on August 29 while waiting for their trial scheduled for November 15.

Mr Bamu opposed the application demanding that they be remanded straight to the trial date, which should be within 14 days.

He argued that the November 15 date was too far, claiming that it was in violation of their constitutional right to be tried within the shortest possible time.

In reply, Mr Mutsokoti said the trial date does not violate the two’s constitutional rights.

The court ordered Sikhala and Sithole to return to court today for ruling on Mr Bamu’s opposing submissions. —Herald

Marry Chiwenga Mum: We’re Powerless

Helga Mubaiwa, mother to VP Constantino Chiwenga’s former wife, Marry Mubaiwa, has opened up on her daughter’s ordeal saying she is surviving through God’s grace as she goes through a very rough patch.

She is suffering from cancer, which has severely affected her arms and legs.

–Newsday

Guvamatanga Avoids Parliament Session

Finance and Economic Development ministry secretary George Guvamatanga yesterday failed to appear before Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) to explain government’s US$9,6 billion over-expenditure incurred between 2015 and 2018.
PAC requested Guvamatanga to explain the over-expenditure by government after the Finance ministry acting accountant general Edwin Zvandasara failed to answer questions raised in Parliament on August 14.

Yesterday, Guvamatanga failed again to appear before the committee, saying he needed more time to prepare responses.

He said he had been disturbed by the Zimbabwe Economic Development Conference, an event hosted by his ministry.

Yesterday, MPs in PAC requested that Guvamatanga be issued with summons to appear before them or face a charge of contempt of Parliament.

“The committee requested Guvamatanga to be here together with his team, but he has sent one official, which is an insult,” Marondera Central MP Caston Mateu charged.

“The information I got this morning is that he is away on business, which is why I then came,” Zvandasara said in response.

PAC chairperson Brian Dube then shot back at Zvandasara, saying: “That is the greatest insult ever. What business could be more important than coming before Parliament? The issue now is that we have to issue Guvamatanga with summons. We have told him before that he will be charged with contempt of Parliament. Summon him to appear before PAC next Monday.”

On July 25, Guvamatanga failed again to appear before PAC to explain the government over-expenditure.

“His last excuse was a fake one and he is not taking us seriously. Last time (July), he lied that he had been in contact with someone with COVID-19, but two days later, we saw him at a public function,” Kuwadzana East MP Chalton Hwende said.

In 2019, government brought before Parliament a Financial Adjustment Bill, which sought condonation for unapproved expenditure between 2015 and 2018, totalling US$9,6 billion.

According to the Bill, in 2015, Treasury exceeded the national budget by US$25 305 741, which surged to US$1 490 888 789 in 2016 and tripled to US$4 562 064 124 in 2017.

Government overshot the budget by US$3 560 343 130 in 2018.

The Bill was introduced in the National Assembly, but it never progressed to the Second Reading Stage.

It then lapsed in October 2020 when the 2019-20 parliamentary sessions ended.

The Finance ministry has also failed to provide the Auditor-General Mildred Chiri with the documents in relation to how the funds were used despite several requests.

Parliamentarians believe this is an attempt to sweep under the carpet. -Newsday

What Is Poliomyelitis?

Poliomyelitis (polio) is a highly infectious viral disease that largely affects children under 5 years of age.

The virus is transmitted by person-to-person spread mainly through the faecal-oral route or, less frequently, by a common vehicle (e.g. contaminated water or food) and multiplies in the intestine, from where it can invade the nervous system and cause paralysis.

In 1988, the World Health Assembly adopted a resolution for the worldwide eradication of polio, marking the launch of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, spearheaded by national governments, WHO, Rotary International, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), UNICEF, and later joined by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance. Wild poliovirus cases have decreased by over 99% since 1988, from an estimated 350 000 cases in more than 125 endemic countries then to 175reported cases in 2019.

Of the 3 strains of wild poliovirus (type 1, type 2 and type 3), wild poliovirus type 2 was eradicated in 1999 and no case of wild poliovirus type 3 has been found since the last reported case in Nigeria in November 2012. Both strains have officially been certified as globally eradicated. As at 2020, wild poliovirus type 1 affects two countries: Pakistan and Afghanistan.

The strategies for polio eradication work when they are fully implemented. This is clearly demonstrated by India’s success in stopping polio in January 2011, in arguably the most technically challenging place, and polio-free certification of the entire WHO Southeast Asia Region in March 2014.

Exodus Upon Us – President Chamisa

Tinashe Sambiri| The people of Zimbabwe have suffered for four decades under Zanu PF oppression.

The scenario can be compared to the biblical dispensation when the Israelites were oppressed by the Egyptians.

Making reference to the biblical situation, CCC leader President Nelson Chamisa assured the nation of the anticipated freedom from Zanu PF repression.

“THE CRIES HAVE BEEN HEARD…

And now the cry of the Israelites has reached Me,and I have seen how severely the Egyptians are oppressing them. Therefore, go!

I am sending you to Pharaoh to bring My people the Israelites out of Egypt.Exodus 3:9-10.

Blessed sabbath beloved! #Godisinit,” President Chamisa wrote on Twitter.

Madhuku Challenges ZEC, Exposes impending Rigging

Odinga Challenges Presidential Results

SA Employers Terminate Zimbabweans ZEP Holders’ Jobs

Mobilization Of Voters Gathers Momentum

Gift Ostallos Siziba

Back to Basics!

The Citizens Movement’s political Mobilization program has a bias towards young people.

This is informed not just by the fact that this major demographic group is the most affected but also because of its ability to change the concrete realities of the suffering masses of Zimbabwe.

Young people world over have the capacity and the propensity to change society and define society’s collective destiny.

This twinned with a robust political education program can indeed galvanize and organize young people from below.

Bosso, DeMbare Through To Chibuku Quarter Finals

Dynamos are through to the quarterfinals of the Chibuku Super Cup after beating WhaWha 1-0 at National Sports Stadium.

The Glamour Boys started the game pressing high but had to wait longer to create their first meaningful chance. The side made a couple of attacks and forced successive corners that yielded nothing.

On the other end, WhaWha, almost took the lead towards the quarter-hour mark, only to be denied by the woodwork.

The hosts continued to control the pace and were also denied by the bar at the 30th-minute mark.

The match went into halftime with no goals scored.

Dembare came close to goal at the start of the second half, but Emmanuel Paga hit the upright.

After a prolonged spell searching for a breakthrough, the hosts finally broke the deadlock on the 73rd through Trevor Mavunga.

WhaWha failed to get back into the game and succumbed to a loss to bow out of the tournament.

At Gibbo, Highlanders also booked their place after edging Triangle United 1-0, with Stanley Ngala scoring the solitary goal.

Manica Diamonds cruised past Yadah by two goals to nill, while Bulawayo Chiefs beat ZPC Kariba 1-0 to progress to the last eight.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Sheasham achieved the feet with a perfect record and ahead of TelOne, who finished in second place in the central region.

Elsewhere, in the Northern Region Division One league, Simba Bhora are leading the race to win promotion to the top-flight.

Green Fuel FC is just a few games away from being crowned winners in the Eastern Region, while Hwange are setting the pace in the southern league.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Villarreal Stun Atletico Madrid

Villarreal left it late at the Civitas Metropolitano as Unai Emery’s side snatched a win near the end against Atletico Madrid courtesy of strikes by Yeremi Pino and Gerard Moreno.

The Yellow Submarine were the better side throughout. Yannick Carrasco almost scored late on for Atletico, but a spectacular save by Geronimo Rulli kept him out…

Late strikes from Gerard Moreno and Yeremi Pino for Villarreal were enough for the Yellow Submarine to secure their first win over Atletico Madrid in eight league games, as the visitors came out on top 2-0 at the Civitas Metropolitano in La Liga.

Villarreal proved to be the team that were on top for much of the first period, and Unai Emery’s side thought they had taken the lead in the 33rd minute.

A free-kick from deep by Dani Parejo towards the back post was met by a diving header by Juan Foyth, who sent the ball back into the centre of the area for Gerard Moreno, who then rattled the crossbar from a couple of yards out. The forward subsequently got the rebound into the net, but the referee ruled out the goal for handball by the striker.

The home side grew into the game in the second half, but it was Unai Emery’s team who eventually broke the deadlock with just over fifteen minutes to play.

Yeremi Pino capitalised on a lapse in concentration from Atletico wing-back Nahuel Molina to send a shot into the bottom-left corner beyond Jan Oblak.

Los Colchoneros thought they had levelled it just seven minutes later, as Yannick Carrasco’s effort from a couple of yards out was spectacularly saved on the goal-line by Geronimo Rulli. Seconds earlier, Matheus Cunha’s header crashed off the bar.

Molina’s evening went from bad to worse as he was sent off for violent conduct after elbowing the back of Alex Baena’s head in stoppage time.
Villarreal added a second through Gerard Moreno to secure a priceless victory.- Eurosport

Piracy Killing Us – Somandla Ndebele

President Chamisa Takes Citizens Initiative To Gokwe

Tinashe Sambiri|CCC leader President Nelson Chamisa is expected to address thousands of party supporters in Gokwe on Thursday.

CCC deputy spokesperson Gift Ostallos Siziba said in a brief statement on Saturday:

“Going rural!
Fellow Citizens in Gokwe.
This coming Thursday we will present the Alternative.
Be there!!!”

A CCC official said at the weekend:

” We are the alternative, nobody can stop the wave of change.

Guns and tankers cannot stop the wave of change.”

Wiwa Not A Dangerous Criminal

Tinashe Sambiri|The Zanu PF regime has confined CCC officials Hon Job Sikhala and Hon Godfrey Karakadzai Sithole to the ‘D’ Class Section at Chikurubi Maximum Prison.

The ‘D’ class section is for dangerous criminals and lawyers argue the two do not deserve to be in the category.

According to Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR), Hon Sikhala and Hon Sithole are being treated in a cruel and denigrating manner.

See ZHLR statement:

We have protested to ZPCS against the inhuman, cruel & degrading treatment of Hon. Job Sikhala & Hon. Godfrey Sithole who are constantly shackled in leg irons in prison & are sustaining bruises.

Some visitors are also being turned away when they bring food for Hon. Sikhala.

Our lawyers Rose Hanzi & Idirashe registered concern that Hon. Sikhala & Hon. Sithole are being detained in the “D” class section which is the detention section for dangerous & convicted criminals & yet the 2 legislators have not been convicted of any crime.

We want ZPCS to take corrective measures & detain the 2 in conditions that do not amount to inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment.

Several human rights defenders have been shackled & detained at the D Class section. D Class section is supposed to house Dangerous inmates (convicted of crimes) those facing serious charges like murder.

Detaining HRDs or political leaders at this section is tantamount to persecution.

Zimbabweans In SA Holding ZEPs Ordered To Pack Bags

By- South Africa has ordered Zimbabwean nationals using the Zimbabwean Exemption Permit (ZEP) to pack their bags and prepare to go back home.

Chief Executive for the National Employers’ Association of South Africa, Gerhard Papenfus, said it is wrong and immoral that thousands of Zimbabweans, who are reliable employees, will lose their jobs. Said Papenfus:

There are different kinds of permits, and visas and just to make sure that your employees fall under this dispensation then you need to be prepared to terminate those employees’ services at the end of the year which is in our view very wrong.

More Woes For Troubled Gokwe-Nembudziya Legislator Mayor Wadyajena

HARARE magistrate Barbra Mateko has ordered the seizure of a fleet of vehicles belonging to embattled Gokwe-Nembudziya legislator Justice Mayor Wadyajena (Zanu-PF) on suspicion that they were purchased with proceeds from Cotton Company of Zimbabwe (Cottco) looting.

The seizure order involves confiscating 24 vehicles, among them trucks and luxurious cars.

Wadyajena’s two luxury vehicles were reportedly impounded by Beitbridge Border Post authorities on Friday and were towed back to Harare as part of a wider probe into the scandal.

The vehicles, a Lamborghini and BMW X6, were impounded at the border amid allegations that he wanted to take them outside the country as the law enforcement agents were in hot pursuit.

Mateko issued the warrant of search and seizure to the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (Zacc) in terms of section 49(b) as read with section 50(1)(a) of the Criminal Procedure and Evidence Act [Chapter 9:07] that provides for the seizure of all proceeds of
crime.

“These are, therefore, in the State’s name to command you to proceed to Mayor Logistics (Pvt) Ltd and Justice Mayor Wadyajena or any other person in control of the vehicles and therefrom immediately obtain and take into custody the mentioned vehicles and take them to the peace officers and other officers of the law who are bearers of the warrant or other place of safety until the matter is finalised or until you receive further orders from the court,” the seizure warrant read.

Wadyajena, who is out on bail, is being charged together with his company Mayor Logistics.

He appeared together with Cottco managing director Pious Manamike, Maxmore Njanji, Fortunate Molai and Chiedza Danha, the director of Pierpont Moncroix Mauritius, which was allegedly used as a conduit to defraud Cottco.

Allegations are that sometime in 2019, the accused persons connived to defraud Cottco of millions of United States dollars through fictitious purchase of goods allegedly for use by the parastatal.

On January 28, 2019, they formed a shelf company, Pierpont Moncroix (Pvt) registration number 898/2019 in which Danha and Euphrasia Mupedzisi are directors.

On March 14, 2019, Cottco raised an internal stores voucher No 264583 for the supply of 3 200 000, 92-inch special high carbon bale ties to cater for the 2019 ginning season.

However, the purported imported cables never reached Cottco, but rather the money was paid to an American company which deals in trucks.

The company, Supplier Giant Equipment LLC, USA, delivered 25 Freightliner trucks which were subsequently registered under Mayor Logistics.

Wadyajena and his co-accused reportedly defrauded Cottco of over US$5,8 million, the State alleges.

The youthful legislator, who is known for his penchant for super cars and a flashy lifestyle, is accused of using his position as chairperson of the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Agriculture to armtwist the Cottco bosses into shady deals.

The arrest of the legislator has raised eyebrows considering his alleged close links with President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Zanu PF Aligned Vendors Becoming A Menace In Byo

Zanu-PF backed vendors, who recently invaded Fifth Avenue in Bulawayo, illegally allocating themselves trading bays, are accusing the Bulawayo City Council (BCC) of corruption.

The ruling party’s Nehanda district chairperson Josiah Mutangi popularly known as “uMoses wabantu” confessed to allocating bays to the vendors.

This illegal allocation of trading bays, however, has created chaos in the CBD with some areas now impassable.

“We had appealed for vending bays from the council and followed proper procedures of acquiring vending bays, but the council went on to parcel bays to their people,” Mutangi said.

“Why can’t the council open public toilets considering that we have disabled people in our midst who cannot afford to pay for toilets. We do not want to be at Fifth Avenue forever, but the council should look for an alternative for us.”

He claimed that vendors were not engaging in illegal activities but alleged that there were people associated with the council who were selling dangerous drugs around the area.

Mutangi said there were more than 7 000 vendors in the CBD and council officials had a team of agents collecting rentals on their behalf on a daily basis.

“There are council agents collecting the “Hlalani kuhle” money between 12 and 1pm and between 3 and 4pm everyday making it a total of US$2 a day. When one fails to pay, there is a fine of US$11,50,” Mutangi said.

Bulawayo deputy Mayor Mlandu Ncube said council was working on a master plan to deal with illegal vendors occupying Fifth Avenue.

“We have tried to remove illegal vendors from Fifth Avenue, which is not a vending area. We are working on a strategy to deal with them.

“There are no council agents collecting money from vendors. All payments are done at the Revenue Hall,” Ncube said.

Mwonzora Defends ZEC Over New Fees Structure

MDC president, Douglas Mwonzora, has sprang to defend underfire Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) for pegging exorbitant candidates fees for the crunch 2023 harmonised elections, describing the move as “justified.”

Gazetted last week, Statutory Instrument (SI) 144 of 2022, prescribes those aspiring to hold office of president to fork out US$20 000 payable in cash or at the prevailing official rate equivalent.

Members of Parliament (MP) contestants will now be asked to pay US$1,000, Senate and Local Authorities US$100 with the same figure paid for election observation.

In an interview with NewZimbabwe.com in Kwekwe at the weekend, Mwonzora said the new fees structure was necessary to decongest the ballot paper with “pretenders.”

“Our ballot paper must be short considering that in 2018 we had 23 presidential candidates, and that’s a challenge. In Kenya they dealt with this issue by creating coalitions,” Mwonzora said.

The exorbitant fees, he added, would bar opportunists from contesting in future polls.

“In Zimbabwe some people think that being a candidate is a way to fundraise. Therefore, by raising aspirants fees is a way of trimming (number of) candidates.

“If you have support enough that you can be a president, party members will be able to fundraise and even raise donations and those monies for parliamentary candidates must be enough. If not it means you are wasting people’s time. This is, indeed, a good development.

“Others have said this will shut out poor candidates, but the money is not coming from individual pockets, its coming from the party. If you do not have 20 000 supporters and you want to be President for which country?” he said rhetorically.

ZEC has also moved to charge US$10 for an electronic copy of the voters’ roll with data on one polling station voters, US$15 for the ward level voters’ roll, US$50 for the constituency voters’ roll, US$150 for the provincial voters’ roll and US$200 for the national voters’ roll.

Exodus Coming- President Chamisa

Arsenal Dismiss Bournemouth

We are smack dab inside the Premier League now and pre-season has been truly left behind. Today’s games brought all the thrills and you can never ever stop marvelling at the twist and turns of the prestigious Premier League!

AFC Bournemouth 0 – 3 Arsenal

Don’t you love it when a plan comes together? Mikel Arterta and Arsenal Technical Director, Edu have been slated online by the Gunners fans for the past year but it seems like they had a plan. It’s all coming together now and Gabriel Jesus is all up in the mix.

The £45 million worth Brazilian seems to be worth every penny so far. He was involved with an assist today for one of Captain Martin Odegaard’s two first half goals. William Saliba scored a peach of a goal in the second half through the crowd in the box. The Gunners totally dominated the game and had a goal disallowed for offside in the second half as well. This is the first time Arsenal have won the first three games of the season since the 2004-05 season.

It’s also the first time they have named an unchanged team since for three games in a row since 2003-04. Zimbabwe’s Jordan Zemura was a bright spark in an otherwise overwhelmed Cherries side.

Tottenham 1 – 0 Wolves

Arsenal’s arch rivals Spurs are kicking on themselves and trying to build up a rhythm for the season. Harry Kane seems to be back on track after last season’s transfer demands. He scored his 185th Premier League goal for Tottenham becoming the leading scorer in the competition for one team.

Sergio Aguero has 184 goals for Manchester City whilst Wayne Rooney has 183 goals for Manchester United. It’s quite clear that Spurs are not yet jelled up but with on their day they could easily tear up any team and they have the players for that. Wolves were threatening, 20 shots, 51% possession but nothing much to write about in the goals column.

Fulham 3 – 2 Brentford

The Bees couldn’t build on their momentum after demolishing Manchester United last week. Fulham were hell bent on winning the game and played with a will to match.

They led at the break by two goals to one with goals from Bobby Reid in the first minute and Joao Paulinha. Cristian Norgaard halved the deficit just before halftime for Brentford. After halftime, Thomas Frank’s men took charge of the game and the tempo changed and their pressure resulted in a goal from Ivan Toney in the 71st minute. But it wasn’t going to end that way, Aleksndar Mitrovic was going to have a say. He scored in the 90th minute to silence his doubters and critics and ultimately gave the three points to the Cottagers.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Kaitano Tembo Charges Frustrate Mighty Brazilians

Sekhukhune United coach Kaitano Tembo has been showered with praise for his half time team talk which turned the game around in their impressive 1-1 draw with Mamelodi Sundowns today.

With the defending champions leading 1-0 at the interval through Namibian hotshot Peter Shalulile’s 45th minute opener, the Zimbabwean tactician delivered a watershed team talk which resulted in his charges coming back into the game.

Babika Nono restored parity just after the restart through man of the match Linda Mntambo and the midfielder lauded Tembo.

“In the first half we gave them all the respect, we kept chasing, we gave the all the possession,” he told SuperSport TV after the game.

“At half-time in the change room, the coach made it clear that we need to be fearless, we need to take the game to them. We’re playing at home, we’ve got nothing to loose. Our second-half performance was really good,” he added.

Sekhukhune did not sit back against a star-studded Masandawa and went toe to toe with them, something which Tembo was happy about.

“For me, I like playing a pressing game because when you playing a pressing game you force your opponents to make mistakes,” the former Dynamos defender said after the game.

From the word go, we went in there, they made a mistake on transition then we scored. So that is my kind of game, I don’t like to sit back and I’m happy with how the lads reacted in the second half,” added Tembo.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Zanu PF Desperate To Thwart People’s Struggle

ZEC Says It’s Lawful To Charge USD20,000 Fees

FULL TEXT: It is part of the law for ZEC to charge and receive fees for nomination court to support the electoral processes and candidates to show commitment to the offices they are contesting for.

S.I 144 of 2022

The @ZECzim was previously issuing voters rolls for local authority for free to council candidates , support MPLCs , Conduct Nomination etc. Surely USD100 is fair for the public office for councilors and Senate.

How will one administer the budgets/allocated devolution funds at council if their only qualification & commitment is that they are 18 years old and a Zimbabwean citizen?
It’s important for @ZECzim to promote integrity of the electoral processes which includes the candidates.

To be a councilor the law is clear that you must not be financially insolvent.

Those vying for public office must show commitment as the integrity of our electoral processes are not independent of the integrity of the candidates. This is best practice not only in Zimbabwe.

Surely if you want everyone to be a candidate including chancers that does not enhance democracy and good governance. Check other countries on requirements to run for public office.-Jasper Mangwana, ZEC Spokesperson

Low Numbers At Saba Magacha Gig

He hoped to fill up the Harare International Conference Centre when he launched his seventh album I am Favoured, unfortunately, Sabastain Magacha saw a paltry turnout on Saturday.
Despite the turnout, Magacha was happy saying: “Panoungana vaviri kana vatatu kunaJehova makawanda” (When three or four gather, to Christ you are many).

Sabastian Magacha

Magacha’s parents also attended the launch to support his efforts.

Before the launch, people wondered if the Bhosvo hitmaker would be able to fill the HICC, but because the line-up included Jah Prayzah, Mambo Dhuterere and Madam Boss, who have a huge following, many expected that people would come in their numbers.

However, it was not to be, maybe because the concert clashed with the Ninja President, Winky D’s performance in Glen View 1.

A number of artistes who showed up performed well despite technical glitches with the sound system, especially when Magacha was performing with Herman. The audience could hardly figure out if Herman was singing or lip-syncing.

Top musicians who showed up among others included Dorcas Moyo, Zimpraise Choir, Tinashe Magacha, Mambo Dhuterere — who gave Gringo Junior a platform to showcase his dancing skills and the flamboyant Mudiwa Hood who dished out money to fans who were singing along as he performed.

Top comedians who also supported Magacha included Bee Wezhira, Mama Vee, Mai Titi, Ginimbilite, Yaya Goodvibes, Loraine Guyo and Melisa Makwasha, among others. They bought copies of Magacha’s album at good prices.

Before bidding of the album by DJ Ola 7 started, Magacha in a green suite rocked the stage performing songs from the new album.

Even though it is still early to judge, the title track I Am Favoured seemed to have received a positive response from the fans. He also took time to announce that he would premiere the video for the track Nzira which features Gemma Griffiths, today. —Newsday

Man Brutally Kills Wife As Son (4) Watches

A KNIFE-wielding man reportedly tracked his estranged wife who had fled their matrimonial home and stabbed her all over the body in broad daylight on Sunday on the streets of Rusape while their four-year-old son watched helplessly.

Police confirmed the death of Ms Tariro Mutumbami (22) of Mutumbami Village under Chief Marange at the hands of her husband, Taurai Nyanga (27).

Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Nobert Muzondo said Ms Mutumbami secretly left her matrimonial home at Claire Compound in Odzi last week.

“She went to Rusape to look for employment at Chitowa Farm. Last week on Saturday, Nyanga phoned Ms Mutumbami and asked her whereabouts. Ms Mutumbami then directed Nyanga to Chitowa Farm,” said Insp Muzondo.

He added: “On Sunday, Nyanga travelled to Rusape and found Ms Mutumbami seated with another man whom he suspected to be her boyfriend at the corner of Silverbow Road and Mbuya Nehanda Street.

“The suspected boyfriend fled from the scene. Nyanga then dragged Ms Mutumbami for about five metres. He tripped her to the ground and sat on her back. He stabbed her several times with an Okapi knife while their minor child watched. She died on the spot,” said Insp Muzondo.

After realising that he had committed murder, Nyanga sought to run away, but onlookers gave chase and effected a citizen’s arrest. The public disarmed him before handing him over to the police.

Ms Mutumbami’s body was conveyed to Rusape General Hospital for post-mortem. Nyanga has since appeared in court facing murder charges and was not asked to plead. He appeared before Rusape magistrate, Mr Obedience Matare who remanded him in custody to August 30.

Mr Matare advised him to apply for bail at the High Court. Prosecutor, Mr Justice Masanganise said Nyanga stabbed Ms Mutumbami several times on the head, twice on the neck, once on the left jaw, once on the right ear, once on the left arm pit and once on the forearm.

Wadyajena’s Seized Vehicle Fleet

A fleet of haulage trucks belonging to the Member of Parliament for Gokwe-Nembudziya, Justice Mayor Wadyajena, through his company Mayor Logistics, can now be seized by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) and held pending the outcome of a fraud trial of Wadyajena and four top Cotton Company of Zimbabwe managers or an associated civil action.
In addition to the 22 trucks listed in the court order permitting the seizure, the same order allows ZACC to hold two luxury cars, a Lamborghini and BMW X6, temporarily held by Beitbridge authorities on Friday while they were on their way to South Africa.

The five are accused of diverting Cottco money meant to buy bale ties to buying the trucks now allegedly being used by Wadyajena. But the trucks and other assets now being sought and seized are more likely to be forfeited to the State in a separate civil application under a law meant to reclaim assets acquired through unlawful activity.

While criminal charges have to be proved beyond reasonable doubt, civil proceedings are decided on the balance of probabilities and the difference has seen assets forfeited even when there is no successful criminal prosecution.

The assets facing seizure are 22 haulage trucks and the two luxury cars allegedly bought with funds diverted from Cottco. At the weekend, ZACC obtained a warrant of search and seizure of these assets belonging to Mayor Logistics from Harare magistrate Ms Barbara Mateko.

Wadyajena was arrested last week along with four Cottco top executives: Pious Manamike (54), Maxmore Njanji (47), Fortunate Maloi (34) and Chiedza Danha (39). The five were arrested on charges of fraud and money laundering involving US$5 million of Cottco money.

According to the warrant granted to ZACC, the managing director of Mayor Logistics (Pvt) Ltd and Wadyajena or any other person in authority or control of the vehicles are ordered to release them to Victor Masimba, an investigating officer from ZACC.

National Prosecuting Authority prosecutor Ms Audrey Chogumaira, in her ex parte application, told the magistrate that there is likelihood of dissipation of the trucks considering the fact that Wadyajena has now appeared in court and might abscond from Zimbabwe, despite his bail conditions that include $200 000 bail and the surrender of his title deeds and his passport.

She said the haulage trucks which allegedly constitute proceeds of crime are now used on transborder business hence they were likely to be shipped out of Zimbabwe to foreign countries especially South Africa where they will be difficult to repatriate to Zimbabwe.

“The criminal investigations underway revolve around fraud and laundering of the specified movable property hence the need for seizure of the same by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission pending further processes in terms of the Money Laundering and Proceeds of Crimes Act, and most specifically the civil confiscation to be sought within that period by the applicant,” she stated in her papers.

“The purpose of this property seizure order is to preserve the said property from dissipation or alienation pending investigations into allegations of fraud and money laundering.”

This order will remain in force until the criminal proceedings and civil confiscation proceedings by the National Prosecuting Authority against Wadyajena and his company are terminated unless varied or revoked by a court order.

Last week, Wadyajena and his accomplices were granted $200 000 bail each by a Harare regional magistrate Mr Stanford Mambaje who ordered them to surrender the title deeds to their personal properties as surety.

Wadyajena and the Cottco bosses are alleged to have converted money which was meant for the importation of bale ties and bought the trucks through Mayor Logistics, where Wadyajena is believed to be a director, and allegedly diverted a second order for ties to energy companies.

In his bail ruling, Mr Mambanje said the State, through ZACC investigating officer Mr Arthur Murambiza, failed to place before the court a compelling reason that warrants continued detention of Wadyajena and the Cottco bosses, who are all expected back in court on September 8.

In another case involving assets, the NPA has obtained unexplained wealth orders at the High Court against former Finance and Economic Development Ministry official Marcos Nyaruwanga and traditional healer Ester Mutesvu to explain how they have acquired their assets, which are suspected to have been bought through ill-gotten proceeds.

According to the order against Nyaruwanga, he is asked to give a sworn statement to the head of ZACC’s Asset Forfeiture Recovery Unit, explaining how he acquired his Hatfield property plus five top-of-the range Mercedes Benz vehicles, five Toyota vehicles, a Honda Accord, a BMW320i and a Nissan Murano.

In the order, Nyaruwanga is required to give details of the costs incurred in obtaining the listed assets and produce all the supporting documents and receipts showing proof of legitimate business and source of income for their acquisition.

In the case of Mutesvu, the NPA have sought an order barring her from disposing her assets comprising a house at Aspindale Park in Harare bought for US$58 000, a Toyota Hiace bought for US$10 200 and a Toyota Axio bought for US$4 600, plus all her household property until the criminal matter in which she is being prosecuted for money laundering has been finally disposed of.

According to the order, in the event that the criminal trial of Mutesvu is concluded, the terms of the order will remain in force until the application for confiscation of the listed property has been disposed of or until the terms of the order have been varied by a court order.

Mutesvu is also required to give a sworn statement setting out the commercial use and such income derived from the property or dealings with the property by her from the day of acquisition of such property to date. -Herald

Man Kills Wife In Broad Daylight

Totally Innocent Soldier Jailed 6 Years

Former Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) captain and chaplain at Mbalabala Barracks, who was wrongly jailed for six years for theft of a vehicle belonging to businessman Osfael Mazibuko says his business crumbled when he was rotting in jail.
Solomon Ndlovu (52) was in January 2018 convicted of theft of a motor vehicle by Beitbridge regional magistrate Mark Dzira after a full trial.

He was sentenced to six years in jail, with two months suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour. A further five months were suspended on condition he restituted Mazibuko US$2 500, leaving him with an effective 65 months to serve.

Ndlovu, through his lawyer Abel Ndlovu of Dube and Associates, filed an appeal at the Bulawayo High Court citing the State as respondent.

The lawyers submitted that Dzira erred and misdirected himself by attaching a criminal liability to the former army captain arguing that the agreement was a civil matter. The State did not oppose the application that both the conviction and sentence were improper.

Two High Court judges, Justices Maxwell Takuva and Thompson Mabhikwa, on September 16, 2019, set aside both conviction and sentence, and acquitted Ndlovu after serving one year and eight months at Khami Maximum Security Prison in Bulawayo.

Last week, Ndlovu said his prison tenure was a nightmare which resulted in multiple losses.

“If it was not for this false criminal case, I could have gone very far with life. But this case grounded and destroyed all my plans. Everyone thought I was out and done with, including my wife who even refused to take me back when I was released thinking that this matter will come back again.

“People looted my farm — Mjinge Conservancy in Mwenezi, Masvingo which Mazibuko had also snatched and I repossessed it through the courts. My farm house was vandalised and I lost cattle,” Ndlovu said.

He said despite the High Court application which was granted on farm possession, Mazibuko appealed to the Supreme Court, a development stalling his farming projects.- Newsday

South Africa Has Whites Only Town

South Africa has a town where black and coloured people are not allowed to live called Orania. According to several reports, only whites live in this town.

Said a BBC journalist who visited the town:

I spent a few days in Orania, a town established in 1991 where no black people live.

I was part of a BBC crew, including Zimbabwean journalist Stanley Kwenda, who were accredited to visit.

And during that time, I did not see any other black people in the town of 1,000 – an unusual experience in modern South Africa.

It is an Afrikaner-only town, where only Afrikaans is spoken, because of fears about “diluting culture”.

Orania was founded by one Boshoff Snr as a registered company during the last years of apartheid, with the idea of making it a safe haven for Afrikaners. Dutch, German and French settlers who arrived and colonised South Africa in the 1600s. Afrikaners dominated South Africa for many decades and introduced the apartheid system which was based on racial segregation

One of the Orania residents told the BBC:

“I see nothing wrong with apartheid!

Of course you get the petty apartheid: ‘You use this toilet I use that toilet’, I don’t think that was necessary but the real apartheid as Dr Verwoerd saw it, there was nothing wrong with it.

While the town’s administrators insist that it’s not about the colour of skin, no black people or coloureds can live there.

Prospective residents are screened by the town council using a strict criterion, and the key criterion is being an ethnic Afrikaner. Just being able to speak Afrikaans is not enough.

Orania prints its own money and runs its own banks, and has its own holidays. It even has and flies its own flag.

According to a report by WION, the residents of Orania have said their next goal is the creation of an Afrikanner republic- WION/ BBC

Illicit Mining Activities Trigger Human, Wildlife Conflict

CIASA STATEMENT ON ILLICIT MINING ACTIVITIES IN PROTECTED AREAS

The issue of focus for this communique is the recent explosion in illicit mining activities within protected areas which has led to the escalation in Human-Wildlife Conflict (HWC) in the Chipinge District of Manicaland, Zimbabwe. This is home to the Ndau Indigenous people who represent a small minority in the country. There has been an upsurge in Human Wildlife Conflict due to illegal diamond mining activities in and around wildlife conservancies, degrading and destroying the natural habitat for large mammals like elephants and driving out of the reserves, animals which serve as food to carnivores like lions. The degradation is a direct result of the unsafe mining methods used by the illegal miners. Cyclone Idai and the following El Nino induced cyclones in the district have been responsible for the destruction and sweeping away of the perimeter fences of the wildlife conservancies allowing seamless migration of wildlife from their conservancies to human settlements. Both large mammals and carnivores have preyed upon human settlements and affected household economic activity with women being the hardest hit. It is worth noting that Chipinge is surrounded by several game reserves including Chipinge Safari area, Devuli Ranch, Save Conservancy amongst other smaller and/or private game reserves.

Chief amongst the effects of the proliferation of illicit mining in conservancies is the disturbance of the natural habitat for large mammals and predatory animals. Secondly, unregulated human settlement has also attributed to the destruction of animal habitats within protected areas and thus making them vulnerable to the elements, hunger and starvation. This then pushes the animals out of the conservancies and into human settlement and farming areas destroying life and crops with a disproportionate inclination of victims being women.

As such, we call upon the relevant stakeholders to work with the local communities to create social fencing interventions. Without community participation in environmental protection activities, there is no community benefit and as such, adjacent communities ought to play a bigger role in monitoring illegal mining activities and reporting whilst equally raising early warning systems in case of wildlife straying towards human settlement.

In the same vein, the Environmental Management Agency, Parks and Wildlife, Forestry Commission and all key stakeholders in the environment sector be capacited by central government to effectively execute the their mandate in the protection and promotion of their target Protected areas for effective environmental management.

Kaitano Tembo’s Sekhukhune United Hold Mighty Brazilians

Arsenal Cruise Past Bournemouth

Antiretroviral Therapy Saves Millions

HIV/AIDS remains one of the world’s most significant public health challenges, particularly in low- and middle-income countries.

As a result of recent advances in access to antiretroviral therapy (ART), HIV-positive people now live longer and healthier lives. In addition, it has been confirmed that ART prevents onward transmission of HIV.

An estimated 28.7 million people were receiving HIV treatment in 2021. Globally, 75% of the 38.4 million people living with HIV in 2021 were receiving ART.

Progress has also been made in preventing and eliminating mother-to-child transmission and keeping mothers alive. In 2021, 81% of all pregnant women living with HIV, or 1.1 million women, received antiretrovirals (ARVs).

WHO has released a set of normative guidelines and provides support to countries in formulating and implementing policies and programmes to improve and scale up HIV prevention, treatment, care and support services for all people in need.

This fact file provides current data on the disease, and ways to prevent and treat it.

HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) infects cells of the immune system
Infection results in the progressive deterioration of the immune system, breaking down the body’s ability to fend off some infections and other diseases. AIDS (Acquired immune deficiency syndrome) refers to the most advanced stages of HIV infection, defined by the occurrence of any of more than 20 opportunistic infections or related cancers.

Access to preventive interventions remains limited in many low- and middle-income countries.

But progress has been made in some areas such as prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV and keeping mothers alive. In 2021, 81% of all pregnant women living with HIV – 1.1 million women – received antiretrovirals worldwide. In 2015, Cuba was the first country declared by WHO as having eliminated mother-to-child transmission of HIV and syphilis. By the end of 2021, 15 countries and territories were validated for eliminating mother-to-child HIV.

“Free Wiwa, Nyatsime Activists”

US$5 Fine For Littering

By A Correspondent- Masvingo City Council has resolved to introduce a US$5 littering fine as part of its efforts to arrest litterbugs in the city.

The Health, Housing and Environmental Services Committee recommended the Chief Health Officer to refer to the Finance and General Purposes Committee, the introduction of an anti-littering  fine.

“It was proposed and agreed that council should introduce a littering fine of USD$5 in the city to reduce rampant littering in the Central Business District. The idea was accepted in principle,” reads part of the committee minutes.

In another development, the city council turned down the offer by the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works to procure fire tenders on behalf of local authorities  opting for the procurement of refuse and tipper trucks.

According to the Finance and General Purposes Committee, the members said that the purchase of a fire tender was not a priority to the  city.

Consideration was given to the report of the Acting Finance Director on the letter from the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works advising that the Government will procure fire tenders on behalf of local authorities utilising the 2022 devolution fund allocations.

“The City of Masvingo would get two fire tenders at a cost of USD464 396 each. The 2022 devolution allocation was ZWL$253 107 300 and council was being advised to re-prioritise the devolution funds to accommodate the cost of the fire tenders.

“The committee raised concern that fire tenders were not a priority to the City of Masvingo. The city was in need of refuse trucks, tipper trucks, grader and ambulances.

The committee counter-proposed that the Government should consider procuring two refuse trucks, a tipper truck, grader and an ambulance for the City of Masvingo using the devolution funds in place of the fire tenders,” noted the report.

Masvingo United Residents and Ratepayers Association (MURRA).

Commenting on the two developments, Masvingo United Residents and Ratepayers Association (MURRA) spokesperson Mr Godfrey Mtimba applauded the move by the local authority to introduce fines but called on the city fathers to revise the amount saying the amount was too steep to residents who were struggling to make ends meets.

He said they should consider increasing the number of litter bins in the city as they were few.
