Tshabangu Praises Mnangagwa’s Failing Regime

By A Correspondent | ZimEye

In a surprising twist amid widespread criticism, Sengezo Tshabangu, the interim Secretary General of the controversial Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), has lauded Mr. Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration, describing it as superb. Tshabangu, who also serves as a Senator, urged the nation to embrace what he perceives as the strengths of the failing regime.

Speaking out on Monday, Tshabangu made a bold declaration, stating, “It’s high time we shift our focus on Unity, Peace, Transparency and of course Development. Zimbabwe is endowed with vast natural resources that will take us to the next step ahead.

I commend the progress being made at the Mbudzi Traffic Interchange, keep the ball rolling @MhonaFelix.”

Tshabangu’s unexpected praise for Mnangagwa’s administration flies in the face of mounting discontent and disillusionment among many Zimbabweans. With economic challenges, political unrest, and social instability plaguing the nation, Tshabangu’s stance represents a divergence from the prevailing narrative of dissatisfaction.

The endorsement of Mnangagwa’s regime by a prominent figure within the opposition ranks raises questions about the complexities of Zimbabwe’s political landscape.

While Tshabangu’s remarks may be seen as an attempt to foster unity and constructive engagement, they also highlight the nuanced dynamics at play within Zimbabwean politics.

Critics argue that Tshabangu’s characterization of Mnangagwa’s administration as superb overlooks the realities faced by ordinary Zimbabweans, including rampant inflation, unemployment, and a deteriorating standard of living.

However, Tshabangu’s call for a focus on unity and development underscores the need for dialogue and collaboration in addressing the nation’s challenges.

As Zimbabwe navigates a turbulent political and economic landscape, voices like Tshabangu’s serve as a reminder of the diverse perspectives and divergent opinions that shape the country’s trajectory.

Whether his stance will resonate with the broader populace or further deepen divisions remains to be seen.

Tsvangirai Grills Mthuli Ncube Over Mnangagwa’s Rejection of ZiG

By A Correspondent|ZimEye

In a heated exchange within the hallowed halls of Parliament, Norton MP Richard Tsvangirai took Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube to task over President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s apparent disdain for the newly introduced Zimbabwe Gold currency (ZiG).

The confrontation, which unfolded on Monday, May 6, 2024, during a session of the Parliament committee on budget, finance, and investment promotion, shed light on the challenges facing the implementation of ZiG in Zimbabwe.

Tsvangirai minced no words as he questioned the feasibility of ZiG in light of Mnangagwa’s very public endorsement of the US dollar, a move that, according to Tsvangirai, undermines confidence in the local currency.

He pointed to images circulating on social media showing Mnangagwa ostentatiously displaying USD notes, a sight that could deter citizens from embracing ZiG.

“The Minister of Finance appeared before the Parliament committee on budget, finance, and investment promotion on Monday, May 6, 2024, to deliberate on issues in connection with the recent monetary policy that birthed the structured currency ZiG,” Tsvangirai stated, setting the stage for his interrogation of Minister Ncube.

Central to Tsvangirai’s line of questioning was the accessibility of essential goods and services in the local currency, particularly fuel and passports.

He demanded clarity from Minister Ncube on how the government planned to instill confidence in ZiG when high-ranking officials flaunted foreign currency in public settings.

“I questioned the MOF on fuel and passports not being accessible in the local currency and how he was going to foster confidence in the local currency when the head of state was flashing and parading USD’s in public,” Tsvangirai reiterated, underscoring the urgency of addressing the disconnect between government policy and public perception.

Minister Ncube, for his part, attempted to assuage concerns by reaffirming the government’s commitment to ZiG and outlining measures to promote its adoption.

However, Tsvangirai’s pointed inquiries underscored broader skepticism regarding the efficacy of ZiG in an economic landscape plagued by instability and mistrust.

The clash between Tsvangirai and Minister Ncube epitomizes the multifaceted challenges confronting Zimbabwe’s monetary policy reforms.

While ZiG represents a bold attempt to restore confidence in the nation’s currency, its success hinges not only on governmental support but also on public perception and economic realities.

As Zimbabwe navigates this complex terrain, robust dialogue and accountability will be essential in charting a path toward sustainable financial stability.

We Don’t Pay Mediocre Work, Government Tells Fossil Contracting Over Lorraine Drive

By A Correspondent| Transport Minister Felix Mhona has issued a directive for Fossil Contracting to rectify mediocre work done on the recently surfaced Lorraine Drive in Harare’s Bluff Hill area.

The road’s rapid deterioration has sparked outrage among taxpayers, with complaints arising barely two months after its completion.

Speaking during a Question and Answer session in the National Assembly yesterday, Minister Mhona acknowledged the failure of the road and declared that the contractor would not receive payment until the situation is rectified.

‘The issue has garnered significant attention in recent weeks due to the road’s dismal performance. The ministry has summoned the contractor, who has also admitted to the road’s failure,’ stated Minister Mhona.

‘However, in line with the principles of accountability and quality assurance upheld by the Second Republic, payment will not be issued for substandard work. We have instructed the contractor to address the deficiencies in the road and to rectify any failures in the materials or construction process,’ he added.

Fossil has been tasked with rehabilitating the stretch of road from the main Post Office in the city centre to the Westgate roundabout as part of the National Harare/Chirundu Road Rehabilitation and Upgrading Project.

Mutsvangwa Explodes Over Son’s Arrest

By A Correspondent |ZimEye

Women Affairs Minister Monica Mutsvangwa has spoken out vehemently against what she perceives as a targeted attack on her family following the recent arrest of her son, Neville, for alleged involvement in illegal foreign currency trading.

The arrest, which occurred yesterday, has ignited controversy, with Mutsvangwa asserting that her son is innocent and suggesting that there may be ulterior motives behind the timing of the arrest while she was away.

In a leaked audio clip circulating on social media, Mutsvangwa can be heard expressing her belief that the arrest is politically motivated, insinuating that individuals within the system are deliberately targeting her family.

She maintains her son’s innocence, stating, “It’s definitely political victimisation because my son doesn’t trade in foreign currency, doesn’t trade in ZiG.”

However, despite Mutsvangwa’s defense of her son, reports suggest that Neville Mutsvangwa is known to engage in foreign currency trading, particularly in exchanging US dollars for South African Rands through Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) transactions.

The incident underscores the intersection of politics and personal affairs within Zimbabwe, with accusations of political targeting adding fuel to an already contentious situation.

As the controversy unfolds, questions remain regarding the motivations behind Neville Mutsvangwa’s arrest and the broader implications for the Mutsvangwa family within the political landscape of Zimbabwe.

Bayern Munich Boss Claims Team Robbed

Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel says the decision from officials to stop play before his side scored an injury-time equaliser against Real Madrid “feels like a betrayal”.

The Bavarians crashed out of the Champions League on Wednesday night, after losing 2-1 in the second leg and conceded the tie 4-3 on aggregate.

The visitors could have secured a late equaliser through Matthijs de Ligt but the assistant referee’s flag was already raised for offside when the Dutchman struck home from the inside of the box.

Television replays showed the original decision may not have been offside and would have needed to be checked by video assistant referee [VAR].

However, VAR was unable to intervene and award the goal, as play had already stopped.

Tuchel told TNT Sports after the match: “There was a disastrous decision from the linesman and the referee [Poland’s Szymon Marciniak].

“It feels like a betrayal in the end. There was a huge fight, we left everything on the pitch and we were almost there. Now we say congratulations to Real Madrid.

“The linesman says sorry but that does not help. To raise the flag in a moment like this… The referee sees we get the second ball and we get the shot – it’s a very, very bad decision. It’s against the rules. It’s a disaster. It’s hard to swallow but that’s the way it is.”

Real Madrid will face Borussia Dortmund in the UEFA Champions League final at Wembley Stadium in London, England on 1 June.

Chamisa Bemoans Country’s Leadership Kwashiorkor

By A Correspondent|ZimEye

Opposition leader Advocate Nelson Chamisa has raised concerns over what he perceives as a significant deficiency in the country’s leadership.

In a poignant statement made on Wednesday, Advocate Chamisa addressed what he described as a concerning trend in leadership roles within Zimbabwe, likening it to a form of societal malnutrition, specifically referring to kwashiorkor, a severe form of malnutrition affecting children.

Advocate Chamisa declared :
“The Leader is a Servant, Not a Master…”

Advocate Chamisa’s statement encapsulates a powerful message about the fundamental nature of leadership. He emphasizes the principle that leadership is fundamentally about service and enabling others. “To lead is to serve. To serve is to enable. A leader is a servant. A servant is an enabler,” he expressed.

Leadership, in his view, should not be about wielding power for personal gain or control, but rather about empowering and facilitating progress within the community. He highlights the various positions of authority, including the presidency, ministerial roles, parliamentary positions, and civil service, as opportunities for individuals to make a positive impact by enabling those they serve.

“Great leaders enable those whom they serve,” Chamisa emphasized, underlining the importance of leaders fostering an environment conducive to growth and development for all.

Advocate Chamisa’s words echo a sentiment that transcends political boundaries and speaks to a universal ideal of leadership.

Regardless of political affiliation or ideology, the concept of servant leadership resonates as a timeless principle that guides effective governance and societal progress.

In calling for a paradigm shift towards servant leadership, Advocate Chamisa issues a challenge to those in positions of power to reassess their roles and responsibilities.

He emphasizes that true leadership lies not in the accumulation of authority, but in the ability to uplift and empower others.

As Zimbabwe continues to navigate its path forward, Advocate Chamisa’s message serves as a reminder of the transformative potential of leadership rooted in service and empathy.

It underscores the need for leaders to prioritize the well-being and advancement of their constituents above all else, fostering a culture of inclusivity and collective prosperity.

In the face of ongoing challenges, Advocate Chamisa’s call for servant leadership offers a beacon of hope and a blueprint for building a brighter future for Zimbabwe and its people.

“When one serves as President, Minister, Member of Parliament, councillor, civil servant or in any public office, one must enable not disable.”

“Great leaders enable those whom they serve. #LeadersServe #ForEveryone.”

Magaya Sells Dummy To Mnangagwa

By Sports Reporter- The Zimbabwe Football Association has exposed the controversial preacher Walter Magaya for fooling President Emmerson Mnangagwa into officially opening a football stadium without official ablution facilities.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa officially opened Magaya’s Heart Stadium early this year.

Before this, ZIFA had advised Magaya first to solve the ablution facility, but he ignored this requirement and used his proximity to the President to bypass that requirement.

At the time of the official opening, Magaya said he had plans to host the Zimbabwe Warriors matches, but all that seems to have been lip service from the disgraced Man-of-God to fool Mnangagwa.

Heart Stadium has been without public toilets since its homologation in March.

The stadium relied on hiring mobile toilets, which was overwhelming on matchdays.

Heart’s temporary suspension has forced the home team, Yadah, to use Rufaro Stadium as their new home ground.

The Miracle Boys are set to host CAPS United on Saturday at Rufaro stadium, making the ceremonial home of football the only venue to use as home ground for all four Harare-based topflight league teams.

Stadium crisis is one of the major problems in the country.

Currently, Zimbabwe does not have a CAF-approved facility which can be used for any international football game.

“Sanitary facilities should be provided for a range of needs, including at least one accessible cubicle within all large WC blocks along with low-level urinals, WCs and hand basins to cater for those of short stature,” a FIFA instructive document seen by ZimEye reads.

ZiG Trading Arrested Mutsvangwa Son Also Has Rape Cases

By Political Reporter- Zanu PF spokesperson Chris Mutsvangwa’s son Neville, who was arrested yesterday for trading ZiG with US Dollars, is notorious for money-changing deals and rape cases, it has emerged.

Neville was arrested yesterday at his Mt Pleasant home in Harare by detectives from the CID commercial crimes unit on allegations of contravening the Exchange Control Act by illegally trading in foreign currency.

On his WhatsApp status on Monday, Neville posted a message stating “18.75”, which was interpreted by some as an advertisement for the street rate for the ZiG to the United States dollar.

Some reports suggest that the post triggered Mutsvangwa’s arrest.

His mother, Monica, the Women’s Affairs minister, has defended him, connecting the arrest to Zanu PF factionalism.

In audio circulating on social media platforms, Monica is heard saying the charges were cooked up.

This is not the first time Neville has made headlines for the wrong reasons.

He was twice arrested for sexual offences.

In the first instance, he allegedly raped a woman in Harare, and in the second instance, he allegedly tried to rape a second woman in Mutare. He was never convicted.

In 2019, police raided Neville’s office at 3 Sanfenand Flats on Fife Avenue in Harare, where he was allegedly conducting illegal foreign currency deals. He was away but police found US$200,000.

Four detectives allegedly conspired with Mutsvangwa’s workers to under-declare the money found on the premises by seizing US$40,000 instead of the full amount.

It was alleged that by the time they got to the police station, the money had gone down to US$20,000. The four detectives were subsequently arrested for the theft of US$20,000.

Neville was also recently accused of undermining government policy after selling Starlink units in Zimbabwe despite a POTRAZ ban.

Magaya Lied To Mnangagwa About His Heart Stadium

By A Correspondent| The ZIFA’s First Instance Board has exposed controversial preacher Walter Magaya for fooling President Emmerson Mnangagwa to officially open a football stadium without ablution facilities.

The Miracle Boys are set to host CAPS United on Saturday at Rufaro stadium, making the ceremonial home of football the only venue to use as home ground for all four Harare-based topflight league teams namely Dynamos, Caps United, Yadah FC and Innocent Benza owned Herentals FC.

“Sanitary facilities should be provided for a range of needs, including at least one accessible cubicle within all large WC blocks along with low-level urinals, WCs and hand basins to cater for those of short stature,” a FIFA instructive document seen by ZimEye reads.

Other stadiums that have previously hosted Premier Soccer League matches include National Sports Stadium and Gwanzura Stadium in Highfield.

National Sports Stadium is expected to undergo major improvements to meet FIFA standards so that it can host International matches.

Currently Zimbabwe Warriors will be forced to host international matches on foreign soil while the Sports and Recreation Commission sorts out the stadium issue.

Their last matches were hosted in Rwanda.

Luck Runs Out For UK Based Zimbabwean Man With A Staggering 68 Convictions

A Zimbabwean man Ashley Simbarashe who is living in the United Kingdom as an asylum seeker has racked up a staggering 68 convictions across several countries.

A United Kingdom court heard the 34-year-old thug arrived in the UK in 2017 and quickly became involved in serious crimes including drugs, robbery and assault.

Despite his appalling criminal record he was granted leave to remain in the country two months ago.

This week he appeared at Northampton Crown Court where he was jailed for possession of a weapon.

CCTV operators spotted two men behind a row of shops in Gainsborough Road, Corby, Northants., at 1.50am on February 16 this year.

Maparura was carrying a hammer and his accomplice Reece Cruickshank was holding a wrench.

The operators followed the men on their screens as they “caused a commotion” before running away.

The pair were later arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery but the victim refused to co-operate so they were charged with possession of offensive weapons.

They admitted the charges and Maparura, of Northampton, was jailed for one year and four months. Cruickshank will be sentenced later this month.

Sentencing Maparura, Judge Rupert Mayo said: “The courts take very seriously any public display of weapons when they’re brandished or used to present a threat to people who are out and about.”

“You have a dreadful record for using weapons.”

“You have been an asylum seeker since your arrival from Zimbabwe and I am glad that you have now been allowed to remain in this country but during that time you have amassed a huge amount of antecedents and have been gripped by drugs.”

“This is a dreadful catalogue of serious convictions.”

The court heard Maparura’s staggering list of crimes include being caught with heroin and cocaine which were tied to his genitals.

Carrie-Ann Garness, prosecuting, said police stopped him last February for another matter and when officers searched him they discovered the drugs wrapped in a cigarette paper “between his penis and testicles.”

His criminal record includes robbery, supplying and smuggling drugs and drug dealing, committed across several different counties.

The court heard that he was found guilty of knife possession in 2017. He also has five convictions for failing to comply with court orders.

In 2018 he was jailed for 16 weeks for shoplifting and cannabis possession.

While on licence from prison he was jailed for attacking a motorist. He was accused of battering the victim with a hammer which he denied.

He was also convicted of possession of cocaine in 2019.

In July the same year Maparura was jailed for a year after he stole two vacuum cleaners from Curry’s PC World in Kettering armed with incapacitant spray.

In 2020 he was jailed again for smuggling drugs into a detention centre.

The same year he was jailed following a “night of madness” where he rammed into police cars that were chasing him.

In July 2022 he was jailed for three years for controlled drugs offences and breaching a suspended sentence order.

Last July he was jailed for 31 weeks for possession of a hammer and a meat cleaver.

After his release last October Maparura, was jailed for 16 weeks for possession of cannabis, pregabalin, diazepam and zopiclone.

He was hauled back to court on November 23 he was given a suspended sentence for possession of an offensive weapon.

Rajesh Pabary, defending, said that he had three children aged 10, 11, and 12 but admitted he had a “long and extensive history of offending.”

He said: “This is partially to do with drugs and partially to do with funding himself as he was not initially allowed to work when he arrived in this country.”

“He wants to apologise for his actions.”

Despite his string of convictions, Maparura was granted leave to remain in the UK, two months ago and was trying to find work as a forklift driver.

The Nationality and Borders Act 2022 states that anyone convicted of a serious crime resulting in a custodial sentence of 12 months or more, who is considered a danger to the UK, could be denied asylum.

Monica Mutsvangwa Alleges Sinister Agenda Against Her Family

By A Correspondent| Women Affairs minister Monica Mutsvangwa has accused people within the system of fighting her family by arresting her son while she was away.

This follows yesterday’s arrest of Mutsvangwa’s son Neville for illegal foreign currency trading.

In a leaked audio making rounds on social media Monica is heard saying her son was innocent while alleging a sinister agenda against her family.

“It’s definitely political victimisation because my son doesn’t trade in foreign currency, doesn’t trade in ZiG. So I don’t know what it is and why it had to wait while I am away. They timed it while I am away, so I don’t know…,” said Mutsvangwa.

Despite Monica exonerating her son, he is known to trade in foreign currency and is currently involved in exchanging US dollars for South African Rands in what is popularly called EFT.

He openly posts his forex trading rates in Whatsapp groups.

Mnangagwa Rejects Own ZiG Mari?

By A Correspondent

In a recent development, Norton Member of Parliament, Richard Tsvangirai, has come forward to criticize Zimbabwe’s President Emmerson Mnangagwa for publicly dismissing the country’s new currency, ZiG, in favor of the US dollar.

Richard, who is the son of the late founding president of the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC), Morgan Tsvangirai, voiced his concerns regarding Mnangagwa’s actions and their potential impact on public confidence in the local currency.

The controversy arose when Mnangagwa made headlines by donating 800 USD to a Zanu PF sympathizer during a public event, where the recipient danced before him.

This gesture not only drew attention to Mnangagwa’s apparent preference for the US dollar but also sparked criticism from Tsvangirai and others who see it as a clear demonstration of a lack of confidence in ZiG, Zimbabwe’s newly introduced currency.

Tsvangirai did not mince his words, expressing his dismay at Mnangagwa’s actions and the message they send to the public.

He questioned how ordinary citizens could be expected to have faith in the local currency when the country’s leader openly favors a foreign currency. In his statement, Tsvangirai emphasized the importance of leadership in instilling confidence in the economy and lamented Mnangagwa’s disregard for this responsibility.

“How can an ordinary person gain confidence in the local currency when the leader is brazenly showing his love for USD in public?” Tsvangirai questioned, highlighting the broader implications of Mnangagwa’s actions. “Clearly, he is demonstrating a lack of confidence in the local currency and urinating on everyone who thinks ZiG will work.”

The reference to ZiG, Zimbabwe’s new currency introduced in efforts to stabilize the economy and curb hyperinflation, underscores the significance of Mnangagwa’s rejection of it. By openly favoring the US dollar, Mnangagwa’s actions not only undermine the government’s efforts to promote ZiG but also raise doubts about its viability among the populace.

The public reaction to Mnangagwa’s gesture and Tsvangirai’s subsequent criticism reflects the ongoing challenges facing Zimbabwe’s economy and the delicate balance of confidence in its currency.

With inflation rates soaring and the specter of hyperinflation looming large, the success of ZiG hinges not only on economic policies but also on public trust and perception.

As Zimbabwe navigates its economic landscape, the role of leadership in fostering confidence and stability cannot be overstated.

Tsvangirai’s condemnation of Mnangagwa’s rejection of ZiG serves as a reminder of the importance of unity and commitment to national interests, particularly in times of economic uncertainty.

Tsvangirai’s criticism of Mnangagwa’s preference for the US dollar over ZiG highlights the broader implications for public confidence in Zimbabwe’s currency and economy.

The incident underscores the need for leadership to prioritize economic stability and instill trust in the local currency, essential elements for sustainable growth and prosperity.

High Court Orders Catch And Release Of Wadyajena’s Trucks

High Court Declares “Catch and Release” in Justice Mayor Wadyajena Case.

Justice Wadyajena

By Farai D Hove | In a dramatic turn of events reminiscent of a classic “catch and release” scenario, the High Court has made a significant ruling in favor of Emmerson Mnangagwa’s reputed protégé, the sports-car aficionado, Justice Mayor Wadyajena. Two years after his high-profile arrest, the court has ordered the release of his extensive collection of vehicles and other assets, previously held by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC).

Justice Mayor Wadyajena, formerly a legislator for Gokwe Nembudziya, found himself in legal hot water when he was accused of siphoning funds from the Cotton Company of Zimbabwe. These funds were intended for the purchase of bale cables but reportedly ended up financing Wadyajena’s personal cache of 25 haulage trucks and two luxury cars. The assets were seized amidst allegations of fraudulent acquisition, spearheading a broader investigation into corruption and money laundering.

However, the narrative took a “catch and release” turn this Wednesday when the High Court ruled that the continued seizure of Wadyajena’s assets was unlawful. According to Wadyajena’s attorney, Mr. Oliver Marwa, this ruling represents a pivotal victory. “The High Court has ruled that the continued seizure of our client is unlawful, and it has ordered that ZACC or anyone holding that property must forthwith release the property,” Marwa stated, emphasizing that while the ruling clears the way for the return of the assets, it does not prevent ongoing investigations or future prosecutions.

This ruling marks yet another episode in what could be seen as a “catch and release” saga, where assets are seized only to be returned following legal battles. Last year, Wadyajena and his co-accused managed to get themselves removed from remand, citing unnecessary delays in the investigation process, which further underscores the cyclic nature of high-profile legal encounters in Zimbabwe.

The state has indicated that it might still pursue criminal charges against Wadyajena, planning to proceed by way of summons. This approach keeps the door open for further legal proceedings, maintaining the tension between the pursuit of justice and the rights of the accused in what many see as a judicial “catch and release” process.

This case has not only highlighted the complexities of legal battles involving high-ranking officials and notable figures but also the challenges faced in the fight against corruption within state enterprises. As the wheels of justice continue to turn, all eyes will be on how this “catch and release” narrative unfolds, shaping perceptions of justice and law enforcement in Zimbabwe.

War Breaks Out Between Mudenda And Justice Minister In Parliament

Parliamentary Showdown as Speaker Jacob Mudenda and Justice Minister Zitambi Ziyambi Engage in Heated Dispute

By Dorrothy Moyo | In a rare and startling public confrontation, Speaker of Parliament Jacob Mudenda and Justice Minister Zitambi Ziyambi exchanged heated words today, bringing legislative proceedings to a standstill and highlighting deep-seated tensions within the government’s legislative branch.

The incident unfolded when confusion arose over who was to present a crucial Notice of Motion. Although it was initially understood that Deputy Minister of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Hon. Mazungunye would handle the task, Minister Ziyambi appeared prepared to leave the chamber, prompting Speaker Mudenda to seek clarification.

“**Hon. Minister of Justice!**” called out Speaker Mudenda, as Ziyambi made motions to exit. Responding to the Speaker’s inquiry, Ziyambi indicated that despite his movements, the Deputy Minister was indeed present to proceed with the motion, asserting, “**It is allowed…**” This did not satisfy Mudenda, who pressed for a clearer explanation on the procedural norms being followed.

As the discussion continued, Speaker Mudenda expressed his frustration with what he perceived as Ziyambi’s lack of attention to parliamentary procedure. “That is not the issue, Hon. Minister,” Mudenda emphasized, questioning Ziyambi’s intent to depart for the Senate while leaving his duties unattended in the House.

Ziyambi’s responses seemed to further agitate the situation, as he attempted to justify his actions by stating, “**There is no rule that forbids the Deputy Minister from moving the motion.**” However, this did not address Mudenda’s concerns about the expected protocol and the importance of the Minister’s presence during such proceedings.

The confrontation peaked when Mudenda admonished Ziyambi for his lack of focus on the ongoing session, asserting, “**Your private conversation does not take precedence.**” Ziyambi, taken aback, asked, “**Where is the private conversation?**” Miscommunication continued to escalate the tension, leading Mudenda to sternly request Ziyambi to leave the House. Ziyambi refused, visibly upset, countering, “**No, Mr. Speaker. That is not correct. Why are you saying I should leave the House?**” His protest was met with a chorus of inaudible interjections from other members, signaling widespread concern and disbelief.

Ultimately, Deputy Minister Mazungunye was allowed to proceed, thanking the Speaker and attempting to steer the session back to its legislative purpose. However, the altercation left a palpable tension in the room, with members and observers alike left to ponder the implications of such a public disagreement between two high-ranking officials.

This clash not only disrupts the immediate legislative process but also casts doubt on the stability and unity of the government’s functioning, potentially influencing future parliamentary interactions and the overall effectiveness of governance during a critical period. The fallout from today’s events may resonate beyond the walls of Parliament, affecting public confidence and the administration’s legislative agenda.

Madzibaba Ishmael Falls Ill

Trial of Religious Cult Leader Madzibaba Ishmael Delayed Due to Hospitalization

In an unexpected turn of events, the trial of Ishmael Chokurongerwa, a notorious religious cult leader known as Madzibaba Ishmael, has been postponed. This delay comes after the accused and his six co-defendants were reportedly too ill to leave hospital care for the proceedings. The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) conveyed this news on X, stating, “Due to unforeseen medical issues, the trial of Ishmael Chokurongerwa and his co-accused has been rescheduled to May 23 and 24.”

Madzibaba Ishmael, 54, was set to face the court over a series of grave charges stemming from his leadership of a religious sect. He was initially apprehended in March when police, equipped with riot gear and accompanied by dogs, stormed his shrine in Nyabira, roughly 34 km northwest of Harare. This raid resulted in the rescue of numerous women and children.

Chokurongerwa is accused of ill-treatment or neglect of children involving 41 minors, unauthorized funerals or burials, and failure to report births and deaths, among other offenses. His re-arrest on new charges involves allegations of engaging in relations with minors between 2018 and 2024, leading to the birth of six infants. Specific cases include four underage girls between thirteen and sixteen.

Reflecting on the situation, a spokesperson for the NPA remarked, “The charges are a serious concern, highlighting a pattern of alleged abuses within the sect led by Chokurongerwa.”

Previously, in 2015, Chokurongerwa was convicted and served time for leading an assault on police officers, journalists, and members of the Archbishop Johannes Ndanga Apostolic Christian Council of Zimbabwe at his former shrine. This attack was initiated during an intervention aimed at shutting down the sect due to accusations of abuse by its members.

Upon his release, Chokurongerwa founded the new shrine in Nyabira, where police later uncovered over 1000 individuals, including numerous children lacking birth certificates and education.

As the rescheduled trial date approaches, the community and legal observers are keenly waiting to see how this complex case will unfold, with hopes for justice and clarity regarding the disturbing allegations.

Mnangagwa Grants National Hero Status to Own Loyalist

By A Correspondent|ZimEye

In a move steeped in political significance, Zanu PF leader Mr. Emmerson Mnangagwa has posthumously granted national hero status to the late Ezekiel Tobias Musiiwa Chaunoita, a former Director in the President’s Office and purported chief agent within the Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO).

Announcing the decision in a statement released on Tuesday, Zanu PF declared, “ZANU PF First Secretary, President E D Mnangagwa has conferred a National Hero Status to the late former Director in the President’s Office, Ezekiel Tobias Musiiwa Chaunoita.”

Chaunoita, who passed away at the age of 66, served in a pivotal role within the corridors of power, wielding influence within the clandestine realm of the CIO.

His elevation to national hero status underscores the intricate interplay between political loyalty and official recognition within Zimbabwe’s power structures.

Tshabangu Glorifies Mnangagwa’s Failing Administration

Robbers Raid Harare School, Make Off With Cash

By A Correspondent| ZimEye

In a daring daylight robbery that sent shockwaves through the community, six armed suspects raided Warren Park Primary School this morning, targeting parents as they queued to pay their children’s school fees on opening day.

According to reports from the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), the armed assailants stormed the school premises, brandishing weapons and terrorizing both staff and parents.

In a matter of minutes, they made off with a substantial sum of US$1,481.00 in cash, leaving a trail of fear and uncertainty in their wake.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police is investigating a case of robbery which took place at Warren Park Primary School this morning when six armed suspects raided the school as parents were paying their school fees,” stated the ZRP in a press release issued shortly after the incident.

As authorities intensify efforts to apprehend the perpetrators, the ZRP has issued a stern warning to school authorities to bolster security measures and remain vigilant during peak times of financial transactions.

In light of this brazen attack, parents are urged to exercise caution and explore alternative methods of fee payment to mitigate the risk of similar incidents occurring in the future.

“The ZRP urges school authorities to increase security and be alert as parents pay school fees. Where possible, parents are encouraged to deposit their fees through financial institutions to curb armed robbery cases,” emphasized the ZRP, underscoring the importance of proactive measures in safeguarding the well-being of students, staff, and parents alike.

As the investigation unfolds, the community remains on edge, grappling with the unsettling reality of violence infiltrating the sanctity of educational institutions.

In the face of adversity, resilience and solidarity emerge as indispensable tools in the collective effort to combat crime and ensure the safety of all members of society.

High Court Orders ZACC To Release Wadyajena’s Haulage Trucks

By A Correspondent| The High Court has ordered the release of former Gokwe Nembudziya legislator, Justice Mayor Wadyajena’s property which was seized by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) and forfeited after he was arrested on allegations of fraud and money laundering.

Wadyajena who was accused of embezzling funds from the Cotton Company of Zimbabwe meant for acquiring bale cables has been given the green light to get his 25 haulage trucks and two luxurious cars.

The two luxurious vehicles include a Lamborghini Urus and BMW customized X6M.

The trucks were seized by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission after his arrest amid accusations that they were acquired fraudulently.
The ruling was delivered this Wednesday by the High Court of Zimbabwe with Wadyajena’s lawyer, Mr Oliver Marwa explaining the next course of action.
“The High Court has ruled that the continued seizure of our client’s trucks and top of the range vehicles was unlawful and it has ordered that ZACC or anyone holding that property must forthwith release the property. If they have any other issue that is outstanding they can proceed it is not a bar against the investigation or prosecution of my client. It is an important victory in the fight against my client and the State,” he said.

The ruling comes after Wadyadyena and his co-accused successfully applied to be removed from remand last year, with the presiding magistrate noting that there were unnecessary delays in completing investigations.

Seven (7) Chamisa Linked CCC Youths Arrested For Undermining Tshabangu

By State media- Seven opposition youths from the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) who are linked to Nelson Chamisa were arrested and are set to stand trial on May 22 after assaulting the Deputy Mayor of Beitbridge, Councillor John Manatsa.

The seven are said to have accused Councillor Manatsa of sympathising with the party’s self-imposed Secretary General, Senator Sengezo Tshabungu.

The assault took place on March 6 when the Deputy Mayor along with other party members were attending a political meeting at the home of recalled Beitbridge West legislator, Mr Morgan Ncube, in Dulivhadzimu.

The house is also used by the opposition party as its district office.

Anthony Shoko (28), Winston Mugudo (25), Aaron Makumbe (24), Miller Kuwe (31), Decent Dube (35), Forget Chirenda (35), and Cosmas Chimonyo (23) are facing charges of assault and theft of cash R2500 and US$1800, which they allegedly stole from the complainant during the fracas.

On Monday, Beitbridge resident magistrate, Mr Takudzwa Gwazemba remanded the gang to the trial date.

During their initial appearance, they were remanded out of custody on ZWL$300 000 bail.

Prosecuting, Mr Ronald Mugwagwa said on March 6, the complainant was attending a CCC meeting at the party offices when the seven accused persons approached him.

He said Shoko told Councillor Manatsa to leave the house citing that he supports Mr Tshabangu’s faction.

The accused persons then lifted Councillor Manatsa from where he was seated and dragged him outside the house. They went on to assault him and threw him at the veranda.

The court heard that the gang also dragged Councillor out of the yard. He sustained some back injuries and a swollen left arm.

During the assault, the accused person allegedly took the councillor’s shoes, a small bag containing R2500 and US$1800 and a cell phone.

They later threw the items over the parameter wall after allegedly ransacking the bag and taking the money.

A police report was made, leading to the accused persons’ arrest a few days later.

Lungu Louds Putin, As The Former Zambian President Prepares For A Come Back

By Political Correspondent- Former Zambian President Edgar Lungu has pledged his allegiance to the Russian head of State, Vladimir Putin and said that he would forever support his administration.

Lungu was defeated in the 2021 Presidential election by his party’s long-time opposition, Haikainde Hichilema of the  United Party for National Development (UPND).

The Patriotic Front leader has, however, launched a bid to come back as the leader of the party and challenge HH in the next year’s elections.

Below is Lungu’s congratulatory message to Putin on his fifth term inauguration Tuesday:

My fellow citizens, friends and colleagues both at home and abroad.

Allow me to join the rest of the world in saying ‘pozdravaleniya’ to the President of the Federation of Russia H.E  President Vladimir Putin for his re-election on 17th March, 2024 and consequently his inauguration last Tuesday, 7th May, 2024.

Congratulations, Mr President, on my behalf, my wife Esther, my political party PF and many diplomatically astute Zambians.

As you all maybe aware, President Putin swore the oath of allegiance to the Russian Constitution at his inauguration of his fifth term as leader of Russian Federation after convincingly winning the March 2024 poll with 82.7%.

When l was at the University of Zambia studying law, I recall how some of my friends and relatives chose to study at universities in Moscow, St. Petersburg and other cities in Russia instead of joining UNZA or Copperbelt University. As a former head of state, I am grateful that Russia continues to sponsor between 200-250 students to study chemical engineering, medicine, economics, nuclear science, and many other courses in Russia annually all paid for by the Russian government.

As northern Rhodesia just like many countries in Africa, Russia helped us fight colonialism, we in Africa won our struggle for independence using Russian guns and weapons. Russia never colonised us, Russia has been with Africa and for Africa. I also recall that Russia has been an all-weather friend of Zambia that assisted us in military corporation through our first President Dr. Kenneth Kaunda and subsequent presidents.

As you start your new political mandate Mr. President, take note that we in Zambia cannot ignore or forget such an ally and friend as our diplomatic engagement clocks 60 this year. Being a former President of Zambia and a pan-Africanist, I pledge to continue engaging with you in the same way I engage with the United States, the European Union, Britain, France, China, Brazil, the African Union, the United Nations and other diplomatic entities at bilateral and multilateral levels.

Your Excellency President Putin, I wish you God’s blessings and protection as you commence your latest six-year term. Like you said at the Grand Kremlin Palace during your inauguration, we join you and the people of Russia to pray for national and international peace in a ‘conflict free globe’ where everyone can live free, in harmony and happiness.

Thank you and God Bless !

H.E Dr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu

Sixth President of the Republic of Zambia.

Zanu PF Minister Chucked-Out-Of Parliament

ZIYAMBI ZIYAMBI

By Parliament Correspondent- In a scene that looks like factionalism in the Ruling Zanu PF party, the Speaker of Parliament is a senior Zanu PF official, Jacob Mudenda, Tuesday injected Justice Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi from the National Assembly.

Ziyambi, who is the leader of government business in the house, was expected to make a motion on a law to provide land tenure security.

Ziyambi, however, decided that his deputy Norbet Mazungunye would do so instead, but Mudenda rejected that. He demanded to know why Ziyambi would not table the motion himself.

The ZANU PF Chief Whip, Pupurai Togarepi, tried to offer an excuse for Ziyambi, saying the minister wanted to go to the Senate.

But Ziyambi corrected Togarepi and said he wanted to converse with his staff. He said:

No rule says the deputy minister cannot move the motion.

Mudenda then told Ziyambi that his private conversation “does not take precedence”. He then ordered Ziyambi to leave the house. Ziyambi and Togarepi then approached Mudenda’s chair to continue the protest.

Mudenda’s microphone was initially live as a livid Ziyambi demanded to know what rule says a deputy minister can’t move a motion when a minister is present.

Mudenda claimed this was in “section 107 of the constitution” and Ziyambi challenged him to open it. Mudenda moved his hand to pick up the constitution but did not open it. Said Ziyambi:

You were harsh. It’s not correct Mr Speaker to embarrass your own minister.

Mudenda’s microphone was then turned off as the conversation continued. Ziyambi subsequently left the National Assembly.

First calls

The following is a side transcript of the Chimurenga Music King Thomas Mapfumo‘s audio on the 3rd May, that infuriated the ruling ZANU PF causing party members Dr Masimba Mavaza and the businessman, Wicknell Chivayo to descend on him. Mapfumo addressed Zimbabweans as follows-

I want the cars that were seized—five cars that the government of Zimbabwe took. I had purchased these cars from South Africa, bought from merchants, and I paid my money. However, after the cars were seized, they were stored at Tomlinson depot. Consequently, my family and I faced harassment by the police over these cars, which we had paid for. Eventually, we relocated to the United States, where a US citizen helped us settle.

After settling in, a friend of mine, Simba Chiromo, was contacted by the police to collect my vehicles since the police cleared all and any fault. Chiromo found all five vehicles parked at the depot and planned to collect them the following week. Unfortunately, when he returned, the vehicles were gone. It was later revealed that a police officer had sold my cars who was was quickly transferred to Plumtree.

I am not interested in what Wicknell Chivayo is saying; I just want my five cars back. I do not want anyone else’s vehicles.

Some people claim that I lived in Phillip Chiyangwa’s garage. Have you ever seen me there? Has that man ever seen me?

I once owned a football club, Sporting Lions.

Oliver Mtukudzi, George Shaya, and I were each given a piece of land in the capital city. However, mine was confiscated because I was accused of wanting to set up a studio to produce jingles mocking the government, which is untrue. This is a false accusation against me.

The government holds grudges against these people. I supported them during the war, but I realized I had supported the wrong people and started criticizing them. Therefore, don’t be surprised by my decision to live in the United States.

They forget that I was the one who ordered all the songs during the liberation struggle and that I was captured and arrested by the Ian Smith government for their cause. I am a man of the people and will always remain so. I want the people to live in their own country. I would like to see this country become progressive and successful. Can’t you see where we are right now? When I recently visited Zambia, I noticed it is now 200 years ahead of Zimbabwe. They are fulfilling the wishes of the people. Hichilema is advancing the people’s will.

When they came into power, there was money from the Ian Smith government. Where did that money go? Now they say we are printing bond notes and creating ZiGs.

I had money in my Zimbabwe bank account from my record sales, but it was depleted by inflation. Where did all that money go?

But why do you remain in your houses when you see all this chaos? You are such cowards. What makes you endure this situation for 44 years? If you don’t come out, you will continue to suffer.

You say that I should return to that country. Why should I return to a country that lacks the rule of law? Why should I return to a country that kills people who complain? If you ask Mnangagwa why he removed Robert Mugabe, he won’t be able to tell you.

They conspired to remove the president, promising to share power later. They made a secret deal.

You are not seeing it. When these people shout “Up with Zanu PF,” what they mean is “Up with hunger,” while those in power live well. Then you hear Mnangagwa complaining about sanctions, but the sanctions don’t affect him; he is living well.

You need to wake up and stop living a cowardly life. Don’t say I should return to Zimbabwe. I will stay wherever I want; a person should not be forced to live somewhere. LISTEN TO THE FULL AUDIO BELOW –

Four (4) Reasons Why ZiG Is Collapsing

By Business Reporter- A local economist has explained why Zimbabwe’s new currency, Zimbabwe Gold (ZiG), is falling.

The ZiG, on Monday, weakened to its lowest level against the US dollar since it was launched last month, further raising concerns about the long-term viability of the gold-backed currency.

Data by the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) Monday shows the currency was trading at 13.67 to the US dollar, a decline of 0.8% from its first day of trading at 13.56 per dollar on April 8.

Crispus Nyaga, writing for invezz, outlines some of the reasons for the collapsing ZiG.

First, many Zimbabweans are afraid of getting involved in this experiment since they have been burned before. People and businesses that bought and held the previous currencies have seen their purchasing power fall over the years.

Second, this is an experiment that has not been tried in other countries before. The most recent dollar-backed currency was the US dollar. President Richard Nixon ended the dollar peg to curb inflation and the conversion became difficult.

In ZiG’s case, it is unclear what will happen if there is a strong demand for the currency. At the current price, the 2.5 tons of gold are worth over $186 million, bringing the total holdings to $286 million. These funds are barely enough to back the currency.

Third, the ZiG token is different from other backed assets, including stablecoins. In the case of a stablecoin like Tether, users redeem their USDT tokens with fiat currency instantly. It is not possible to redeem any amount of ZiG tokens for gold or US dollar equivalent.

It is also unclear whether Zimbabwe’s neighbouring countries like South Africa, Zambia, and Mozambique will accept the ZiG currency.

Finally, Zimbabwe is mostly a dollar-based economy. Data shows that the greenback is used in over 80% of all transactions in the country.

Last month, the Central Bank said ZiG was not yet recognised internationally and could not be used to make international payments as it has not yet achieved convertibility. It said:

ZiG is a local currency that has just been launched and has not yet achieved convertibility. The Bank will work to strengthen the currency to attain full convertibility, consistent with the regional agenda for macroeconomic convergence under the SADC Protocol on Finance and Investment.

ZiG replaced the Real Time Gross Settlement Dollar (RTGS) and subsequently the Zimbabwe dollar, which lost about 80% of its value this year alone and had been trading at 28,720 to US$1 before the change.

It is Zimbabwe’s sixth attempt to have a stable currency. The previous Zimbabwe dollar was launched in 2019 and collapsed this year.

Zanu PF Thug Appointed ZBC Chief Executive

By Showbiz Reporter- In a surprising move, the government has appointed an active Zanu PF Youth leader as the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) Chief executive.

Charles Munganasa, a ZBC board member, was announced as acting CEO Tuesday.

Munganasa is the secretary for administration in the Masvingo Zanu PF Youth League.

He replaces Assael Machakata, the ZBC finance director who has been acting CEO since February following the suspension of Adelaide Chikunguru, who later resigned.

ZBC also announced the appointment of Merit Munzwembiri as the acting head of news and current affairs.

Munzwembiri takes over from Jackie Gwemende, who replaced Robson Mhandu, whose contract was not renewed when it expired earlier this year.

According to ZimLive, the latest changes at ZBC were ordered by the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, which maintains a tight grip on the state broadcaster.

The appointment of a ZANU PF activist as acting ZBC CEO raises questions about the national broadcaster’s impartiality, especially after the government announced plans to raise US$100 million for the ZBC annually.

The Cabinet recently approved amendments to the Broadcasting Services Act which will compel motorists to buy radio licences from ZBC whenever they renew their vehicle licences.

If the amendments are passed by Parliament, it will become mandatory for motorists to first pay a US$92 annual licence fee for car radios before acquiring vehicle insurance cover or policy unless there is an exemption from the ZBC.

Police Boss Called Out For Harassing Foreign Sports Teams

By A Correspondent| Zimbabwe Republic Police Commissioner General Godwin Matanga has called out Officer Commanding Harare Province Wonder Tembo for forcing foreign sports teams currently in the country for handball games to pay for escort services.

According to a police press statement, Tembo had a dispute with the organisers of the Zone IV International Handball Federation Trophy Tournament who wanted escort services for team playing games in Chitungwiza-which is 40 kilometres from Harare Central Business District.

Matanga reiterated that the police do not charge for escort services to foreign teams participating in games in Zimbabwe.

He ordered that the teams be escorted to Chitungwiza for free.

“Reference is made to the ongoing Zone IV International Handball Federation Trophy Tournament and the engagement by organizers with Officer Commanding Harare Province, Commissioner Wonder Tembo on the 07th May 2024 for escort services for foreign participating teams to the venue in Chitungwiza. The Commissioner General of Police Tandabantu Godwin Matanga has directed that escort services be immediately provided to the teams for free.

“In this regard no money will be paid to the Zimbabwe Republic Police or any individual member for the escort services.

“The Commissioner General of Police has made it clear that the Zimbabwe Republic Police does not charge any money or costs to escort foreign teams coming to participate in sporting events in the country,” the police Public Relations department said.

It is not clear what action will be taken against Tembo but many a times people have complained over the conduct of the ZRP with officers now reportedly demanding bribes even to open a docket.

Duduza Ordered To Let Wife Arrive Home At Her Own Time

By A Correspondent| Former football star Edward Sadomba has been instructed to permit his estranged wife, Sherylnn, unrestricted access to their marital residence.

Harare Magistrate Johanna Mukwesha, in her ruling, permitted communication between the couple solely to facilitate Sherylnn’s entry into their Pokugara Estates property in Borrowdale, irrespective of her arrival time.

Sadomba had objected to the directive, proposing that Sherylnn seek assistance from other family members to gain entry, citing the need to preserve peace.

Despite living on separate floors within their home, the couple is subject to an existing peace order.

Sadomba contended that Sherylnn’s habit of returning home late and demanding entry placed him in a quandary, alleging he was the victim of abuse by Sherylnn and her relatives.

The court, in yesterday’s proceedings, modified the peace order, permitting communication between the couple while prohibiting verbal or emotional abuse, a significant source of contention.

Additionally, a protection order against Sadomba was granted, mandating him to refrain from physical or emotional harm towards Sherylnn for the next five years.

Magistrate Mukwesha emphasized Sadomba’s obstruction of Sherylnn’s access to their shared home as grounds for the directive, urging compliance.

The court further instructed the couple to uphold peace and refrain from eviction until their marital issues are resolved.

Zivhu Mocks Opposition

By A Correspondent

Zanu PF member, Killer Zivhu, has derided the opposition, suggesting that those who oppose the current regime will fade away like bond notes.

Zivhu made the remarks on X over the weekend:

“I would rather remain in Zanu PF than align with opposition parties. They tend to disband swiftly, resembling glucose, always initiating new ventures only to disband again.

Their fate is as fleeting as that of bond notes. #ZanuPF #OppositionParties”

Mahere Says Govt’s Directives Can Be Disobeyed

Legal Expert Fadzai Mahere Challenges Government Directives, Asserts Constitutional Missteps

Zimbabwean lawyer Fadzai Mahere criticized the use of government directives as substitutes for actual laws, labeling such practices unconstitutional and a violation of the rule of law. Mahere’s statement comes amid growing concerns over the adherence to constitutional protocols by government officials.

“I don’t know who needs to hear this, but a ‘Govt directive’ is not law. Rule by decree is unconstitutional,” Mahere stated, referencing Section 68 of the Zimbabwean Constitution, which mandates that all government actions be based on law, reasonableness, and fairness.

Mahere emphasized that policies only gain legal authority when enacted into law, directly challenging any notions that memos or verbal directives from ministers or governors could have legal force. “A Minister can’t write a memo to schools and believe it has the force of law. It doesn’t,” she asserted, adding that statements made by officials on media platforms do not automatically become enforceable laws.

This clarification from Mahere underscores a fundamental principle of constitutional democracies: the rule of law, which requires laws to be certain, positively stated, and uniformly applied without discrimination.

Highlighting inconsistencies in application, Mahere critiqued the selective enforcement of rules among government-operated services, such as fuel stations and passport offices, compared to other public sectors like schools. Such practices, she argued, contravene Section 56 of the Constitution, which ensures equal protection and benefit of the law for all citizens.

Concluding her powerful critique, Mahere called for a leadership overhaul, hinting at the necessity for leaders who uphold and respect the legal foundations of the nation. “This nation would become a jungle if any public official could wake up and say do this or do that and force us to comply. It doesn’t work like that,” Mahere warned, urging a return to principled governance where only enacted laws have binding power.

Her call to action resonates at a time when public trust in government efficacy and integrity is notably wavering, making her arguments not only a legal assessment but also a rallying cry for democratic renewal in Zimbabwe.

Road Users Slam Enforcement Of Radio Licences

By A Correspondent

In response to recent announcements from the government regarding proposed changes to vehicle licensing regulations, motorists across Zimbabwe are expressing their vehement opposition to the inclusion of radio licenses as a prerequisite for obtaining vehicle licenses.

The proposed bill, outlined during a Cabinet briefing, has ignited a wave of discontent among vehicle owners who perceive the move as exploitative and unjust.

“The idea of mandating radio licenses for all vehicle owners is absurd and indicative of a government constantly seeking ways to extract money from its citizens,” voiced one disgruntled vehicle owner who wished to remain anonymous.

“We will resist any attempts to enforce such unjust regulations.”

The government’s proposal has drawn criticism not only for its perceived financial burden on citizens but also for its departure from principles of decentralization outlined in the constitution.

Many argue that local authorities should be responsible for collecting road usage fees, which would then be allocated for maintaining local roads, while the national government should oversee toll fees for national highways and inter-district roads.

“It’s outrageous that the government is trying to impose additional financial burdens on vehicle owners without considering the implications,” remarked another frustrated motorist.

“We demand transparency and accountability in how our taxes and fees are utilized.”

Adding fuel to the fire, concerns have been raised regarding the legitimacy of the Cabinet’s press statement, which lacks the legal authority of a Statutory Instrument or an Act of Parliament. Motorists are being urged to refrain from complying with directives that are not backed by law and to report any attempts to pressure them into engaging in unlawful processes.

“The government must adhere to due process and consult the public before implementing any changes to regulations that affect citizens’ livelihoods,” emphasized a concerned vehicle owner. “We will not stand idly by while our rights are trampled upon.”

Furthermore, the decision to set fees in United States Dollars rather than Zimbabwe Gold (ZiG) has raised suspicions about the government’s confidence in its own currency.

This move further erodes trust and exacerbates the already strained relationship between citizens and the authorities.

As tensions escalate and discontent spreads among motorists, the government faces mounting pressure to reconsider its proposed changes to vehicle licensing regulations.

The voices of disgruntled vehicle owners, echoed by leaders such as Linda Tsungirirai Masarira, President of LEAD, underscore the need for accountability, transparency, and respect for citizens’ rights in the formulation of policies affecting the populace.

In the absence of proper consultation and adherence to legal procedures, motorists remain resolute in their determination to resist any attempts to enforce unjust mandates on vehicle licensing.

DA Leader Struggles To Defend Burning Of Flag

By A Correspondent |ZimEye

In a controversial move sparking widespread debate, South Africa’s Democratic Alliance (DA) is under fire for their latest election advert featuring the burning of the national flag.

The advert, unveiled at the DA’s headquarters in Johannesburg, swiftly circulated on social media, prompting criticism from various sectors of society.

Defending the advertisement during a press conference, DA leader John Steenhuisen stated, “What you will see in this advertisement is a symbolic representation of the future that awaits South Africa if people do not vote for the DA.”

Steenhuisen continued, “It is a warning of what this country’s future will look like under a Doomsday Coalition between the ANC, the EFF, and perhaps also MK and mercenary small parties like the Patriotic Alliance.”

Highlighting the risks he perceives, Steenhuisen elaborated, “The Doomsday Coalition will expropriate property without compensation and abolish private property rights.

It will nationalise and destroy foreign investment, businesses, banks, and mines, and plunge this country into ethnic and racial conflict the likes of which it has never witnessed before.”

However, the advert’s stark messaging, symbolized by the flag burning, has faced significant public backlash.

Former Public Protector Thuli Madonsela criticized the campaign, noting, “It seems to show disrespect and disloyalty to the flag, which to many of us is more than a flag but a symbol of triumph against apartheid.”

Madonsela added, “In some countries, it’s even a crime to burn the flag.”

The controversy surrounding the advert underscores the deep divisions and potent symbolism embedded in national icons like the flag, especially in a country with a history as complex and fraught as South Africa’s.

While the DA’s strategy may have aimed to provoke dialogue about the nation’s political trajectory, it also risks alienating voters who view the act as a desecration of a cherished symbol of unity and freedom.

As the country approaches another election cycle, the uproar over this advert serves as a stark reminder of the volatile nature of political discourse in South Africa.

Galloway Set To Renew Plymouth Deal

Brendan Galloway’s contract with Plymouth Argyle is set to expire at the end of the season and both parties have since entered talks for a new deal.

The Warriors international received a new offer but is yet to accept it.

However, the final decision was to depend on whether Argyle successfully retain their Championship status.

After Argyle’s survival was confirmed over the weekend, the club now hopes Galloway, along with Mikel Miller, will remain beyond this season.

He said: “Obviously, we didn’t know what league we were going to be in. I respect the fact they wanted to wait to see where they would be so hopefully today is a positive way forward in that respect.”

“I think both players have done well in the Championship, they want to stay in the Championship, so would I, so I don’t really foresee too many issues as long as we’re in this league.”

Brendan Galloway joined Plymouth Argyle in 2021 and helped the team win promotion into Championship last season.

He has made twent-six appearances across all competitions.

Zanu PF In ANC Last Minute Campaign Rallies

Political Correspondent-Zanu PF has announced that it has been invited by its sister party in South Africa, the African National Congress, ANC, to join them in their last campaign rallies ahead of the May 29 national elections.

Obert Mpofu, the Zanu PF secretary general, made the announcement Monday through the state media.

The ANC will battle it out with the Democratic Alliance (DA), Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), and the newly formed uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) party backed by former South African president Jacob Zuma plus a group of fringe political parties.

South Africans will elect a new National Assembly as well as the provincial legislature in each of the country’s nine provinces before the National Assembly elects the President.

The ANC is expected to retain its parliamentary majority in the country’s seventh democratic election since the end of the apartheid system in 1994, with the 2024 elections coinciding with South Africa’s celebration of 30 years of freedom and democracy

Dr Mpofu yesterday said South Africa “is part of us in the region, we have an interest in what is going on”.

“We have been in touch with the South African ruling party. What is happening there is an internal issue which we are closely monitoring. I cannot rule out the fact that we can go and assist if they need assistance from us. There are pressing issues that need to be addressed by South Africans on the political developments taking place there,” said Mpofu.

He said Zanu PF hoped the elections would be conducted in accordance with SADC rules regarding elections.

“We wish them the best in their efforts to conduct their elections,” said Dr Mpofu.

Mugabe Eye Doctor Loses US$100 000 In Crypto-Currency Deal

By Crime and Courts Reporter- Renowned eye specialist Dr Solomon Guramatunhu has lost over US$100,000 in a cryptocurrency transaction.

According to court documents unveiled at the Harare Magistrate’s Court, Dr Guramatunhu fell victim to a fraudulent scheme orchestrated by one Lloyd Chiyangwa, resulting in a substantial loss totalling US$108,924.

Chiyangwa appeared in court this Monday and was remanded in custody.

The intricate web of deceit began when Dr. Guramatunhu enlisted Chiyangwa’s services, entrusting him, then based in the UK, with the task of setting up cryptocurrency wallets and devising secure passwords.

However, what transpired next was a calculated betrayal, as Chiyangwa purportedly executed a transfer of 122,467 Matic tokens valued at over US$108,000 from Guramatunhu’s Metamask wallet to the Waybit exchange.

It wasn’t until Guramatunhu sought to relocate these tokens to another wallet that the alarming discovery was made – they had vanished without a trace.

Suspicions arose regarding Chiyangwa’s involvement, with authorities noting his alleged utilisation of an iPhone 15 to orchestrate the transaction.

In the wake of this financial fiasco, Dr. Guramatunhu promptly alerted law enforcement, prompting an investigation into the matter.

Dr Guramatunhu was also the late President Robert Mugabe’s eye doctor and would provide expert advice on the leader’s ocular health.

Tips for Improving Your Gaming Experience

It seems that almost everyone today is a gamer. The boom in popularity has come thanks to a few different reasons. First, eSports events have gained popularity, which has helped turn gaming into a spectator sport. Just like with professional sports leagues, there are now legions of dedicated and supportive fans

Second, games have become easier to produce—which means, in turn, they’re also easier to access. This is true across the board, from competitive gaming titles to more casual games like online casinos. Let’s take a look at some examples, starting with the latter.

Casino games include centuries-old favorites like blackjack, roulette, and even baccarat. Today, there are also brand new releases capturing the attention of players who enjoy virtual casinos. These include live dealer games and game show-inspired titles. These new casino games highlight the fact that digital games are more straightforward to produce, which allows for more innovation.

The same goes for competitive video games. PUBG, for example, was a popular mod of a battle royale PC title. But it didn’t reach its peak of fame until it was re-released as a mobile game. The mobile variation is much more accessible from a mobile device versus a PC, meaning more players could try it out around the world.

Innovations in both game type and platform accessibility have allowed just about anyone to become a gamer. But that doesn’t mean it’s easy to start out as a casual or competitive gamer. We’ve collected a few tips to help you improve your gaming experience in a variety of ways.

 Go Multiplayer & Join Communities

One reason why many fail to continue their gaming journey is because the experience simply isn’t fulfilling—especially not without a social element. If you’re a social person, then consider joining gaming communities in Zimbabwe or South Africa. These might be online if you live in a remote area, or they could be in person.

Gaming communities usually center around a game or a specific element of a game, like a beloved character. If you find yourself gravitating to a game, level, character, or even side quest, then start there. You can easily start rubbing elbows with likeminded gamers, which adds a whole new element to the experience—especially if multiplayer options are available. You’ll never game alone again.

Optimize Settings

Let’s refocus on your hardware for a moment. Many gamers are mobile gamers, meaning they rely on their handy smartphone to access their favorite titles. Did you know that you can optimize your settings on any device to improve the functionality of your games

If you have a newer smartphone, there might be a ‘gaming’ mode or setting. Just look straight in your device’s settings area. If not, you can download an app like Game Booster to help streamline your device for gaming. Otherwise, manually boost your settings, including battery saving, FPS (frames per second – the more, the better), and high-quality graphics.

If you keep running into trouble, try to set up shop next to the Wi-Fi router you’re using. That should help boost your connection. On top of that, look to delete any unwanted apps from your phone, along with any hefty downloads, like videos.

Try New Games

It’s easy to get backed into a corner in terms of games. After all, if you’ve found a fantastic title and have developed a community around that game, it can be hard to test new waters. However, this is always a hugely rewarding experience for gamers. Exploring new releases can help you really get to the root of your preferences.

That doesn’t mean you need to jump ship for an entirely new genre. As we mentioned up top, casinos are innovating with live dealer titles, which doesn’t change the games themselves but rather the way they’re played. If you’re feeling a little bored, then try out a game that’s in the same genre but offers a different premise. Who knows what new interests you’ll unlock?

Climate Change Adaptation Needs More Attention Than Football…

In a recent statement by Tshikovha Green and Climate Change Advocates Pty Ltd director, Moudy Mudzielwana, a glaring issue was brought to light: the disproportionate attention given to football compared to climate change adaptation.

Mudzielwana expressed disappointment in the prioritization of sports over essential global issues, emphasizing the urgent need for a shift in focus.

“Football, the world’s No. 1 sport, is not No. 1 when it comes to development,” Mudzielwana remarked.

This sentiment reflects the pervasive trend where resources and attention are disproportionately allocated to entertainment rather than critical matters like environmental preservation and climate change adaptation.

The statement underscores a critical reality: while football may captivate millions, it does little to address the existential threat posed by climate change.

Mudzielwana highlighted the alarming lack of investment and support for initiatives aimed at understanding the value of the natural environment and mitigating human actions that contribute to its degradation.

“It is worse in the field of environmental management and climate change adaptation, which are more important than anything else in the world,” Mudzielwana emphasized.

This assertion serves as a wake-up call, urging society to reevaluate its priorities and allocate resources where they are most urgently needed.

Tshikovha Green and Climate Change Advocates Pty Ltd is at the forefront of efforts to bridge this gap.

By investing in the education and training of graduates to recognize the value of environmental stewardship, they are paving the way for a more sustainable future.

Their commitment to nurturing a new generation of leaders who understand the critical importance of climate change adaptation is commendable.

As the global community grapples with the escalating impacts of climate change, it is imperative that we heed the call to action put forth by advocates like Mudzielwana.

The time for complacency is over; we must prioritize climate change adaptation with the same fervor and dedication that is often reserved for sports and entertainment.

In conclusion, the statement by Tshikovha Green and Climate Change Advocates Pty Ltd serves as a poignant reminder of the urgent need to reevaluate societal priorities.

Climate change adaptation must take precedence over trivial pursuits, and it is incumbent upon all of us to support initiatives that safeguard the future of our planet.

This move further erodes trust and exacerbates the already strained relationship between citizens and the authorities.

Tsvangirai Roasts Mnangagwa Over ZiG

ZiG Falls Against US Dollar

By Business Reporter- The newly launched Zimbabwe’s currency, Zimbabwe Gold (ZiG), has weakened against the United States Dollar.

ZiG weakened Monday to its lowest level against the US dollar since it was launched last month.

Data on the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe’s website shows ZiG trading at 13.67 to the dollar, a decline of 0.8% from its first day of trading at 13.56 per dollar on April 8.

The ZiG is the country’s sixth attempt to deliver a functioning local currency since 2008.

Authorities say the currency is backed by 2.5 tons of gold and $100 million in foreign currency reserves held by the central bank.

Killer Zivhu Compares Opposition to Vanishing Bond Notes

Zanu PF member, Killer Zivhu, has derided the opposition, suggesting that those who oppose the current regime will fade away like bond notes.

Zivhu made the remarks on X over the weekend:

“I would rather remain in Zanu PF than align with opposition parties. They tend to disband swiftly, resembling glucose, always initiating new ventures only to disband again.

Their fate is as fleeting as that of bond notes. #ZanuPF #OppositionParties”

Hosiah Chipanga Has Some Advice For Mnangagwa

By A Correspondent| Veteran musician Hosiah Chipanga has called upon the government to prioritize respect for workers as a key factor in fostering economic development.

In a statement last week, Chipanga emphasized:

“It is futile to neglect the source of water upstream while expecting to reap the benefits downstream. It is evident that water only flows freely when it is nurtured upstream in the catchment area.

Therefore, to revive companies, it is not enough to focus solely on generating profits within the confines of the company premises; instead, investments should be directed towards the catchment area (workers).

When workers, in the catchment area, lack resources, there is no sustainable way for businesses to thrive, regardless of the industry or sector. Water must be supplied to the upstream of the Save River, for instance, without considering that water does not originate from Save.

Providing funds to workers only within the company or business premises may seem beneficial, but if those workers are unable to access resources from upstream, such as purchasing power, due to the flow of money from the town to the catchment area, severe consequences ensue, akin to cyclones.

Providing funds directly to individuals will facilitate economic growth.”

‘Leaked Audio of Ramaphosa Gets SABC Editor Called In for State Security Interview’

SABC Editor Required to Undergo Polygraph Test After Leaked Presidential Audio

JOHANNESBURG — In a startling turn of events, Moshoeshoe Monare, the editor-in-chief of the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC), has been directed to undergo stringent security vetting, including a polygraph test. This follows a leaked audio where President Cyril Ramaphosa critiqued local media coverage ahead of South Africa’s forthcoming general election on May 29, 2024.

SABC Editor in Chief

A senior official from the State Security Agency (SSA) reportedly contacted Monare on April 18, instructing him to complete the top-level security procedures. The vetting request comes in the wake of President Ramaphosa’s remarks during an African National Congress (ANC) election committee meeting on April 11, captured in a recording where he expressed that local media should not be negative toward the governing party.

In response, the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) voiced deep concerns on Monday. “The timing and nature of this vetting process are suspect, coming just after the President’s negative comments about media freedom,” said Angela Quintal, CPJ’s Africa Program Coordinator. “It’s crucial that the SABC maintains its editorial independence and does not become a mouthpiece for the ANC.”

According to Monare, who spoke in an SABC TV interview and was reported by City Press, the sudden requirement for a polygraph test was unexpected, especially since he was already vetted in 2020 without such demands. “The request for additional vetting now, so close to the election, is alarming and seems intended to intimidate,” Monare said.

The SSA claims that the vetting is standard procedure for individuals in sensitive positions, as Monare is also the SABC’s Group Executive of News and Current Affairs. Yet, the introduction of a polygraph test, usually reserved for top security officials, raises concerns among media watchdogs and civil rights groups about the potential misuse of security measures to exert pressure on the media.

Despite assurances from presidential spokesman Vincent Magwenya that the vetting is routine and not targeted, the journalism community remains skeptical. “Using state security tools in such a manner could threaten the freedom of press and has no place in a democratic society,” stated Intelwatch’s Heidi Swart, echoing a sentiment widely shared among defenders of press freedom.

The SSA’s approach comes at a critical time as public trust in the government is wavering with the ANC’s popularity seeing a significant decline, as per a recent Ipsos opinion poll.

The SABC has stated that the vetting process is a standard requirement and reiterated that all its executives undergo similar checks. However, the inclusion of a polygraph test has not been uniformly applied in the past, adding to the controversy surrounding the current enforcement.

As South Africa heads towards a pivotal election, the balance between national security and preserving journalistic independence continues to be a contentious issue, highlighting the delicate interplay between governance and media in the country’s evolving democratic landscape.-

Time To Appoint Warriors Coach

THE local football community has questioned the decision by the ZIFA normalisation committee to begin processes to appoint a substantive Warriors coach at a time the team should be busy preparing for next month’s World Cup qualifiers.

The country’s football loving community is sweating over the time ZIFA is taking to appoint a new substantive Warriors coach barely a month before the national team resumes its 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification campaign.

ZIFA Normalisation Committee published an advertisement for the country’s top coaching job early this week, and football stakeholders are worried that time is running out before Zimbabwe play Lesotho and South Africa next month.

“What we want is for our team to be a winning team we don’t want them to be serial losers. We know there are issues up top, but all we want is for them to allow for different people like us to voice out, and they get different views for our football to develop and surge ahead. Our main aim is for our football to advance and to be perfected and for that we need collaboration. We’re here to collaborate with them to make our football proceed to other levels,” said Dr Brighton Ushendibaba.

Former players believe the appointment of a substantive coach is long overdue.

“This is heartbreaking and disheartening at the same time, and we are trying to understand as a nation. This is Zimbabwe we’re talking about, and at this stage, we should be having a coach, and he should be drafting his team by now scouting both locally, regionally, and internationally,” said former Warriors players, David Sengu.

“If we don’t prepare well, we prepare to fail. So as a country I think we should do better because pasara a few weeks and we don’t have a substantive coach,” said former Warriors player, Artwell Mukandi.

We can’t keep on changing coaches because by doing that we will be going back and fourth and returning to zero instead of extending further after reaching at nine we then go back to zero and with that we’re literally doing nothing amd we are going nowhere,” said Washington Pakamisa.

The Warriors clash against Lesotho on the 7th of June before facing South Africa on the 11th and all matches will be played in South Africa.

The then Highlanders coach, Baltemer Brito took the Warriors on an interim basis for their first two World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Nigeria last year while FC Platinum coach Norman Mapeza was in charge when the national team took part in the Malawi Four Nations Tournament back in March.

Government Warns Schools Over Rejection of New Currency

THE Government has warned schools rejecting school fees payments in the local ZiG currency that they will be dealt with accordingly.

Schools open for the second term this Tuesday, and the government has since warned authorities against demanding fees payments exclusively in United States dollars while rejecting the local currency.

Investigations by the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ)’s Financial Intelligence Unit have since established that some schools are demanding up to 80 percent of tuition fees in the United States dollar and the remainder in local currency.

The Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Honourable Torerai Moyo, confirmed to ZBC News government’s position on fees payments, warning that school authorities found on the wrong side of the law will face music.

Institutions of higher and tertiary education are also obliged to accept payments in the local currency.

“The government policy is very clear in terms of means of payment of trade. We are in a multi-currency regime. ZiG is one of those currencies that we are supposed to use and as a result, we should first of all as Zimbabweans have confidence in the currency, this includes the institutions.

“The ministry’s policy is very clear, there is no institution that is supposed to reject ZiG as a means of payment. As long as there is any institution doing so, the public should come forward and let us know,” said the Deputy Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development, Honourable Simelisizwe Sibanda.

The government has since launched a multi-agency blitz to account for schools demanding fees exclusively in foreign currency and rejecting the Zimbabwe Gold (ZiG) in contravention of exchange control regulations.

The multi-agency operation will see officers from ZACC, RBZ’s Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) and police deployed to pursue school authorities that are breaking the law.

DA Burns SA National Flag Ahead Of Elections

DA’s National Flag Burning Ad Sparks Outrage and Controversy.

Screenshot

In a move that has ignited widespread controversy, the Democratic Alliance (DA) of South Africa is facing intense backlash following the release of their latest election advert, which features the burning of the South African flag. Launched at the DA’s headquarters in Johannesburg, the provocative advert quickly spread across social media, drawing criticism from various sectors of society.

John Steenhuisen, the leader of the DA, defended the advertisement during a press conference on Sunday evening, stating, “What you will see in this advertisement is a symbolic representation of the future that awaits South Africa if people do not vote for the DA. It is a warning of what this country’s future will look like under a Doomsday Coalition between the ANC, the EFF, and perhaps also MK and mercenary small parties like the Patriotic Alliance.”

The advert includes a voiceover that warns of South Africa’s potential demise under an ANC and EFF coalition. Steenhuisen elaborated on the risks he perceives: “The Doomsday Coalition will expropriate property without compensation and abolish private property rights. It will nationalise and destroy foreign investment, businesses, banks, and mines, and plunge this country into ethnic and racial conflict the likes of which it has never witnessed before.”

However, this stark messaging, symbolized by the flag burning, has not resonated well with the public. Many South Africans, including prominent figures like former Public Protector Thuli Madonsela, have expressed their dismay. Madonsela criticized the campaign, noting, “It seems to show disrespect and disloyalty to the flag, which to many of us is more than a flag but a symbol of triumph against apartheid. In some countries, it’s even a crime to burn the flag.”

The controversy surrounding the advert underscores the deep divisions and potent symbolism embedded in national icons like the flag, especially in a country with a history as complex and fraught as South Africa’s. The DA’s strategy may have intended to shock and provoke a dialogue about the political trajectory of the nation, but it also risks alienating voters who see the act as a desecration of a cherished symbol of unity and freedom. As the country heads toward another election cycle, the uproar over this advert serves as a stark reminder of the volatile nature of political discourse in South Africa.

Herald Says Masses Are Crying for ZiG Currency Coins

Potential Bias and Trustworthiness Concerns in State Media Reporting on Zimbabwe’s ZiG Currency

The recent report by Zimbabwe’s state media on the overwhelming demand for smaller denominations of the new ZiG currency highlights critical issues surrounding the media landscape in Zimbabwe, particularly the credibility and impartiality of state-controlled publications. The portrayal of the new currency’s impact on small to medium enterprises (SMEs) and the general public carries undertones of state-backed optimism, which may not fully reflect the on-ground realities faced by vendors and consumers.

“State media, traditionally seen as a mouthpiece for government policy, often presents information in a way that supports state initiatives,” notes Dr. Alex Munyaradzi, an independent economic analyst. This pattern is evident in the coverage of the ZiG currency, where the focus is on the purported benefits of the new denominations and the central bank’s backing of the currency with substantial foreign currency and gold reserves. However, the enthusiasm shown in the report may overshadow deeper economic challenges and public skepticism that are not as prominently featured.

The article claims a high demand for smaller denominations and coins to facilitate smoother transactions in the market, framed as a response to public need. Yet, this portrayal raises questions about the extent to which these claims have been independently verified. “There is a notable lack of critical voices or independent economic analysis in the report, which might provide a more balanced perspective on the efficacy and reception of the ZiG currency,” Munyaradzi adds.

Moreover, the article’s emphasis on positive feedback from select vendors, who praise the currency’s introduction, does not necessarily represent a comprehensive view of the population’s response. “The experiences shared by vendors at Easily Shopping Centre and others are presented without counterbalance from those who might not have benefited from the currency change, or who might be experiencing adverse effects,” observes Tendai Marima, a researcher at a Harare-based policy institute.

The framing of the new currency as a straightforward solution to issues of currency value preservation and transaction ease does not acknowledge the complex economic environment in Zimbabwe, characterized by inflation, exchange rate instability, and public distrust in financial policies. “By omitting these broader issues, the state media’s report may be seen as simplifying the challenges and potentially misleading the public regarding the effectiveness of the new currency rollout,” Marima concludes.

In conclusion, while the state media’s report on the ZiG currency focuses on optimistic outcomes and a positive public reception, the lack of diverse perspectives and critical analysis calls into question the overall trustworthiness of the article. Readers should approach such reports with caution, seeking additional information from varied sources to gain a more rounded understanding of the economic changes and their impacts on different sectors of Zimbabwean society.- Ziana

Wicknell, General Solo, Ginimbi, And Doug Munatsi

By Alfred Jukwa-| The journey through the corridors of power in Zimbabwe holds a chilling narrative, punctuated by figures whose rise and fall blur the lines between ambition and tragedy.

Solomon Mujuru, with his vast wealth and claims of kingmaker status, met a grim end, his body discovered charred within his own home, buried hastily and without due process.

Following Mujuru’s shadow was the flamboyant Genius Kadungure, once a nameless entity, now flaunting his opulence, particularly through his collection of extravagant vehicles. His demise, entangled with suspicions surrounding a malfunctioning Rolls-Royce coinciding with the incineration of his associates, echoes the tragedy of ambition.

Douglas Munatsi, a diasporan, ascended swiftly to power, wielding influence akin to a Cabinet Minister. However, his sudden death, purportedly from a bombing in his Fifth Floor flat, adds another layer of intrigue to the narrative of those who orbit the center of power.

Enter Wicknell Chivayo, the latest aspirant to grace the nation’s Presidium.

**Wicknell Chivayo’s Grandiose Proclamation and Its Implications on Presidential Integrity**

Against the backdrop of his criminal past, Wicknell Chivayo’s recent rendezvous with diplomatic circles raises eyebrows and concerns. Convicted of money laundering from 2005 to 2008, he now navigates an unusually forgiving terrain, handling substantial sums under dubious circumstances, seemingly impervious to legal scrutiny.

His recent assertion, “Royal blood flows through my vein,” spoken boldly alongside two African presidents, challenges the very essence of presidential integrity. While seemingly hyperbolic, its context and Chivayo’s history lend it a weightiness impossible to ignore. This moment underscores the intricate dance between political power and individuals with checkered pasts.

These associations imperil the sanctity of the presidential office, fostering perceptions that political power is malleable to the influence of private wealth, particularly when acquired through illicit means. Such erosion of public trust threatens the stability and democratic fabric of the nation.

Moreover, Chivayo’s unapologetic assertion of entitlement exacerbates existing societal inequalities, inflaming tensions within already volatile socio-political landscapes.

In this narrative, ambition collides with tragedy, leaving behind a cautionary tale of power’s seductive allure and its perilous consequences.

Respect Workers, Hosiah Chipanga Tells Government

By A Correspondent

Veteran musician Hosiah Chipanga has called upon the government to prioritize respect for workers as a key factor in fostering economic development.

Michael Reza Says Prosecutora Must Protect ZiG Currency

Zimbabwe Strengthens Fight Against Corruption with Asset Repatriation and Enhanced Training

By Farai D Hove | Zimbabwe is stepping up its efforts to combat corruption through an enhanced collaboration between the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) and the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA). At a workshop held in Harare this Monday, both agencies focused on training their investigation agents and prosecutors in the latest financial investigation techniques and asset recovery models.

During the event, ZACC chairperson, Mr. Michael Reza, highlighted the vital roles that investigators and prosecutors play, particularly in protecting the integrity of Zimbabwe’s new ZiG currency. Mr. Reza passionately advocated for a united front in the battle against corruption, emphasizing the need for community involvement. “The best approach we can adopt as a nation is to work together in fighting corruption. We cannot win this war as individuals,” he stated. He further appealed to the public, saying, “We are urging everyone to come forward and report cases of corruption. It’s the only way we can stop the cycle of poverty exacerbated by these corrupt acts.”

In her remarks, NPAZ chairperson, Prosecutor General Justice Loice Matanda Moyo, underscored the successful start to the repatriation of recovered assets and finances, a move indicative of the country’s commitment to reclaiming its resources. Justice Moyo elaborated on the collaborative efforts, noting, “We are convening today to cut through the red tape surrounding illicit financial flows. Globally, corruption poses a massive threat, and here in Zimbabwe, we are fortifying our defenses by collaborating with key partners like the ZRP, ZIMRA, and the President’s office.”

Justice Moyo also announced significant advancements in the judicial approach to corruption with the establishment of specialized Anti-Corruption courts. “These dedicated courts are a critical step forward in our legal framework to expedite corruption cases, ensuring swift and fair justice,” she explained. She called on all Zimbabweans to support these efforts, emphasizing, “It is imperative that we join hands as a nation in this fight.”

The workshop also focused on practical training in asset recovery and the importance of mutual legal assistance to facilitate international cooperation. The aim is to create a competent cadre of officials who can effectively handle complex financial investigations and asset recovery operations, integral to Zimbabwe’s broader strategy to eradicate corruption.

Muzorewa Named In Herbert Chitepo Assassination

By Political Correspondent- The late Prime minister of the shortlived Zimbabwe-Rhodesia (1979), Bishop Abel Muzorewa, has been named in the assassination of Herbert Chitepo.

Chitepo, the esteemed leader of Zanu’s external wing, lived in exile in Lusaka, Zambia. On the fateful morning of March 18, 1975, a bomb planted beneath his pale blue Volkswagen Beetle exploded outside his Lusaka residence, claiming his life.

Zanu PF stalwart and the last surviving Dare Rechimurenga member, Rugare Gumbo, mentioned Muzorewa while shedding light on the identities of those responsible for the assassination of Chitepo.

Gumbo, who had met Chitepo just a day before the tragic event, expressed equal shock upon learning of his death.

In a video shared by political activist Lloyd Msipa, Gumbo said it was said that individuals from the Karanga community were responsible for killing Chitepo who hailed from the Manyika tribe.

Below is what Gumbo Said:

Ndabaningi Sithole was supported by Kaunda who was saying that he thinks that Chitepo was killed by us the Karangas, and Chitepo was Manyika, and yet when Chitepo was killed what actually happened? Was that on March 17 1974 Muzorewa came to Zambia, we went to the airport to welcome him.

We went to sit in our own place just to watch while they were celebrating, the Chikeremas and the Nyandoros. And he arrived and then we went to meet him and then we went to State House to decide on the following day’s meeting on the 18th and when we got there; there were more or less altercations between Nyandoro and Chitepo and so on. Anyway, that is not the issue, but after we agreed to meet tomorrow, we said that Justin Nyoka who was reporting… Isn’t  it, you know Justin Nyoka? He said that he wanted to see me and Tongogara so so we then left and went towards Chitepo’s in order to out what our line for the following day tomorrow for about 30 minutes or so to decide who is going to be representing the party externally, the Muzorewa’s were saying this [and that].

So we said Chitepo and Jaison Moyo are those who will represent the party outside the country and so we followed each other and then we had BBC, with the Muzorewa’s and so forth.

Chitepo saw us at the veranda and waved bye-bye we will meet tomorrow. And that was it.

The first time we were in different houses in fear of arrest or so on, but after that we went to one house in a nice way so we can wake up tomorrow to the publicity office to meet Justin Nyoka of the BBC. Tongogara arrived.

As soon as we arrived there, we received a phone call from Mudzi at the liberation centre, he said a bomb has hit at Chitepo’s home. So we said oh.

So right there, Tongogara said to me aah, Gumbo, our liberation struggle has been terminated. Without Chitepo I  don’t think our revolution will come out well.

We said that let us go to liberation and as we got to the gate at liberation the commander of SWAPO came and said I am so sorry he is no more political bomb. There has been a bomb at Chitepo’s at Chilenje South. We then went there to see and we saw his body ripped apart. His bodyguard had also been hit and a child and another bodyguard also affected.

So that is how the problems started in ZANU. Even though they had been other problems before, but for the future that is how everything started.

South Africa’s Main Opposition Burns National Flag

By -South Africa’s main opposition, the Democratic Alliance (DA), has come under fire from several quarters for its latest election advert.

The short advert shows an image of the South African flag going up in flames.

The advert was launched at the party’s headquarters in Johannesburg on Sunday evening.

It has since been published on various social media platforms.

Addressing the media on Sunday evening, DA leader John Steenhuisen said the party wanted to convey an urgent warning on the perils faced by the country’s constitutional democracy.

“What you will see in this advertisement is a symbolic representation of the future that awaits South Africa if people do not vote for the DA.

“It is a warning of what this country’s future will look like under a Doomsday Coalition between the ANC, the EFF, and perhaps also MK and mercenary small parties like the Patriotic Alliance,” said  Steenhuisen.

In the advert, a voiceover can be heard warning of South Africa’s demise under an ANC and EFF coalition.

Steenhuisen believes the ANC, EFF and the Zuma faction could decide to work together after the 2024 elections, making things worse for South Africa.

“The Doomsday Coalition will expropriate property without compensation and abolish private property rights. The Doomsday Coalition will nationalise and destroy foreign investment, businesses, banks and mines.

“The Doomsday Coalition will plunge this country into ethnic and racial conflict the likes of which it has never witnessed before. The cold, hard truth is that the Doomsday Coalition between the ANC and EFF has already taken over Johannesburg and Ekurhuleni with the help of its little proxies.

“Next year, it will be knocking on the doors of the Union Buildings.

“This is a fact that should send shivers down the spines of every patriot and freedom-loving person in this country,” said Steenhuisen.

The advert did not land well with South Africans, who felt like the DA was disrespecting the flag.

Former Public Protector Thuli Madonsela was amongst the first people to comment, saying the burning of the flag was ill-advised.

“It seems to show disrespect and disloyalty to the flag, which to many of us is more than a flag but a symbol of triumph against apartheid, In some countries, it’s even a crime to burn the flag,” said Madonsela.

Zanu PF Bigwigs Resist Mnangagwa

By Political Reporter- There is discord in the ruling Zanu PF preside over President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s proposal to revive the Political Actors Dialogue (POLAD) initiative.

Top Zanu PF officials critical of POLAD argue that the platform amounts to nothing more than a talk shop funded by taxpayers, yielding no tangible results.

Mnangagwa launched POLAD on 17 May 2019 after the hotly contested 2018 elections, but the then main opposition party, the Movement for Democratic Change Alliance, refused to join.

Those who joined POLAD were rewarded with top-of-the-range Isuzu D Max vehicles and hefty allowances.

A month after the disputed 2023 general elections, writing in his State-controlled newspaper column, Mnangagwa said he said he intended to reinstate

I intend to reinstate the framework for Political Actors Dialogue, Polad. It served us remarkably well in the last five years, helping us to find each other across the political divide, thus conceiving policies for our nation collectively.

To that end, I shall be inviting leaders of all political parties who participated in the just-ended harmonised elections so, together, we refashion the framework to make it more responsive and better able to serve the times and our nation.

I trust that my invitation will be welcomed by most if not all, political actors. Party politics must never stand in the way, or make us deaf to the call to work together for the collective good of our people and our nation. Zimbabwe is our country together.

However, nine months into Mnangagwa’s second and final term, POLAD still lies dormant. In an interview with NewsDay on Sunday, Mnangwa’s spokesperson George Charamba said his principal was still committed to the dialogue platform. Said Charamba:

The President has committed to the dialogue platform. He has, however, merely indicated he was not averse to the political dialogue platform and as to when and in what form or shape it takes, becomes his prerogative.

NewsDay reported sources as saying some ZANU PF bigwigs are of the view that POLAD is not necessary since the ruling party commands a huge majority in Parliament. Said a senior official:

Most of the presidential candidates in the last election did not garner significant numbers and they hold no influential political capital, so there is no need to waste taxpayers’ money on the platform.

He [Mnangagwa] feels the platform is good for political optics and is going ahead with the initiative. He was supposed to meet the other POLAD principals just after the independence celebrations, but the problem is that the convener, POLAD head of secretariat Virginia Mabhiza is always outside the country.

Most of the presidential candidates were in Murambinda during Independence [Day] and they are waiting to be told the date to meet the President.

Critics argue that POLAD is more about diluting the opposition rather than strengthening multi-party democracy.

Some question the source of funding for vehicles and allowances given to political interlocutors under POLAD.

Motorists Resist Enforcement of Radio Licenses

FULL TEXT: Rugare Gumbo On Chitepo Assassination

(ZimEye) Rugare Gumbo: Dare ReChimurenga was the supreme Council of when the nationalist movements migrated to Zambia after the disbandment of political parties and Herbert Chitepo was made the director, the chairman of ZANU the external wing. He was the director of prosecutions in Tanzania and then after the UDI in 1965 he took over the external wing and he went to Lusaka so he was based in Lusaka. He started with the revolutionary council which involved the people who were elected in the Congress in 1964- the trained cadres who were outside the country, so they formed a revolutionary Council in 1967 and after 1969 Hebert Chitepo said we have to have an elected body of the party not an appointed body. So they said we have to have a Dare ReChimurenga of the party; so they held regular conferences to elect new members at bi annual conferences, every two years. So in 1969 they started and elected the new leadership; and then in 1971 they held their second conference, errm in 1973 they held another conference; that is where I come in myself, and I was in America, so that is how I got in, in 1973.

The first Dare ReChimurenga in 1969 involved Chitepo, Hamadziripi, Mukono, Simpson Mutambanengwe, Parirehwa, Mutizwa, and Chitepo.

I had forgotten Shamuyarira in 1971. He was the one in charge of Foreign Affairs. In 1971, Shamuyarira and Mutambanengwe, I think we left them out because there had emerged problems, because Shamuyarira had wanted to take over as chairman of the party and he failed at Kafue Conference of the party.

Then in 1973 there was again an election that’s where I came in; conference at Kafue, that’s why I come in and Chitepo was elected chairman, Cde Mudzi, Cde Hamadziripi, Tongogara came in, myself and Kangai. John Mataure became the political commissar.

I should say in 1971 I had forgotten Richard Hove; he had taken over the position that had been under Shamuyarira of Foreign Affairs, Then Secretary of Publicity in 1971 was Washington Malianga.

The function of the Dare ReChimurenga was the overall board that was running the armed struggle and formulated policies, the execution of the armed struggle; basically I would say these are the people who are giving the general direction of the party providing them with the national ideological position [similar to the Ministry of Defence] and also the Recruitment training and welfare of the people who were fighting the cadres and so on and so forth.

Question: You mentioned a particular time between 1973 there emerged a breakaway where Froliz came up; what happened there?

Froliz came up in 1971 after the Kafue Conference. What happened was that Shamuyarira wanted to take over as Chairman so that he can work with Chikerema of ZAPU. ZAPU had its own problems of tribalism and so Shamuyarira and Chikerema teamed up and to form the one behind the scenes who were putting Siwela as chairman.

QUESTION: THAT’S WHY IT IS IMPORTANT FOR US IF YOU READ THE TAKE BY MASIPULA (SITHOLE), HE TWISTS THAT NARRATIVE TO GIVE CREDIT TO HIS BROTHER, NDABA-NINGI.

The narratives are easily twisted so that is why it is important for you the originators to give us the truth .

Ndabaningi Sithole doesn’t feature at all in 1971. Neither does he feature in 1973; he features in after the death of Herbert Chitepo. Before the death of Herbert Chitepo when we had a meeting of nationalists in Zambia in December 1974, Sithole was still president of ZANU. A problem had emerged that during that time when they were preparing for that meeting, there was a coup in the prison, at Connemara Prison (in Gweru) where Ndabaningi was ousted by Mugabe; it is reported that Mugabe did not vote but Tekere, and the others the Nkalas, the Maliangas overthrew Sithole in prison.

They had sent Mugabe and Malianga for consultations to do a meeting.

Kaunda wanted Sithole to be president; Sithole and Nkomo, those two were preferred but to Kaunda ‘s surprise there came Mugabe and Malianga.

Kaunda then asked what the heck are you people doing? Who is the president? And they answered saying we later removed him.

How can you remove Sithole, the six of you?

Kaunda asked them how on earth can you the six of you do that? Go back. When they had gone back, we then conducted a meeting.

When we held the meeting, we refused and said no there is nothing like that that you remove Sithole when there are just the six of you.

So we decided that we are all united and we then went to the talks while united and we came out within an agreement of Muzorewa, [of Zimbabwe Rhodesia.] LAUGH LAUGH.

The United African Council. So after that, they came some nationalists who when they were now back home problems emerged of the Muzorewa and the Nkomo’s.

Meanwhile, that is when certain people got arrested, on March 4 1975 Sithole was arrested and he was charged with trying to eliminate the other African nationalists, the ANC, these were the tricks of Smith. So After that, that is when that March, on [date unclear] March 18. 1975 is when Hebert Chitepo was assassinated.

So from there that is when the downfall of Sithole began. Sithole was supported by Kaunda who was saying that he thinks that Chitepo was killed by us the Karangas, and Chitepo was Manyika, and yet when Chitepo was killed what actually happened? Was that on the 17th of March 1974 Muzorewa came to Zambia, we went to the airport to welcome him.

QUESTION: So is it fair to say that the 2017 coup was not the first Zanu Pf?

You are quite right. There was another attempt in 1974 to mount a coup against party leadership in Lusaka but basically it was tribal oriented it was of the Manyika’s targeting the Tongogaras.

So it was an attempted coup, but it failed

Question: Were you considered a Karanga as well?

Yes. Myself, Hamadziripi, the Tongogaras.

After that in terms of overthrowal of leadership that I pointed out of Sithole, the first one was done by Mugabe, which failed, and then came this one of 2017. – ZimEye

Teachers Want To Dance For Mnangagwa To Increase Their Salaries

By A Correspondent| The Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe has reacted to the news that President Emmerson Mnangagwa gifted a Masvingo man with US$800 for dancing at a Zanu PF rally.

ARTUZ which has been lobbying for improved salaries for teachers expressed concern that Mnangagwa was busy splashing money on dancers while neglecting the welfare of teachers.

Posting on X, ARTUZ said teachers will take to the dance floor on the opening day just like the Masvingo man, but hoping that Mnangagwa’s reward to them will be a salary increment.

“President Mnangagwa we note you were impressed with dancing moves and you had to pay USD800 to the good dancer. On Day 1 of schools opening we will show you our dancing moves maybe you may review our salaries,” said ARTUZ.

ARTUZ has demanded that government pays teachers a minimum wage of US$1280 per month. They have also been advocating for strikes to force government to increase their salaries.

Teachers are some of the least paid workers in the country with their salary ranging from US$260 to US$300 per month, a far cry from their demands.

Govt Says Schools Are Making A Happy Ziggy Opening

Schools Open Amidst Currency Concerns

As schools across the nation gear up for the start of the second term, the Government has announced that everything is okay as schools make a Zig-money opening today.

“In line with the law, parents can pay fees and levies in the currency of their choice,” assured government officials. “We have taken steps to ensure smooth operations and the safety of students traveling back to their schools.”

“With the reopening of schools, we direct educational institutions to accept payment in ZiG as part of the acceptable basket of currencies,” emphasized authorities. “We are committed to upholding the multi-currency system.”

“We are ready for the new term,” affirmed Primary and Secondary Education Permanent Secretary, Mr. Moses Mhike. “All schools in the country are prepared for the reopening, and Zimsec is ready for the upcoming June examinations.”

However, concerns have been raised regarding private schools’ refusal to accept ZiG as a form of payment. “School authorities are expected to abide by the pronouncement made by the RBZ in terms of the new currency that has been introduced,” warned Mr. Mhike. “Any school heads who defy this directive will have disciplinary measures taken against them.”

Parents have echoed the sentiment, urging the Government to ensure that schools accept payment in ZiG. “Government should ensure that schools accept all forms of payment,” emphasized one parent.

As schools open their doors for the new term, stakeholders are reminded to prioritize safety and adhere to regulations to ensure a successful academic year ahead.

Mnangagwa Tells Soldiers To Pursue ZANU Interest First

Mnangagwa Urges Soldiers to Prioritize ZANU PF Interests

By Lesley Dube | Emmerson Mnangagwa has called on newly commissioned Zimbabwe National Army officers to prioritize the interests of the ruling ZANU PF party under the guise of national interest.

Mnangagwa at the Pass Out Parade

Speaking at the pass out parade of the officer cadet course 3/39/22 at the Zimbabwe Military Academy in Gweru, Mnangagwa emphasized the importance of understanding national values while defending the nation’s sovereignty. However, his statements took a concerning turn as he urged the military to align with ZANU PF’s agenda.

“The inclusion of the civil-military relations package is crucial for a strong and disciplined Defence Force,” Mnangagwa stated. “As our future military leaders, it is essential that you have a deep understanding and appreciation of our national values and ethos. More so, that our military is a unifying force, which comes from the people as well as protects them and defends our national identity, rich history, unity, peace, and harmony.”

Critics have raised alarms over Mnangagwa’s remarks, interpreting them as an attempt to politicize the armed forces and use them as a tool to further the interests of ZANU PF. Mnangagwa’s call for soldiers to prioritize party interests raises questions about the military’s role in a democratic society and its independence from political influence.

Mnangagwa’s controversial statements have sparked debate across the nation, with many expressing concerns about the erosion of democratic principles and the potential implications for Zimbabwe’s future. As the country navigates complex political and social challenges, calls for transparency, accountability, and respect for democratic norms have never been more urgent.

Doctor and Accomplice Arrested Over State Fraud

In a shocking turn of events, a 42-year-old medical doctor finds himself in the hot seat, staring down charges of defrauding the State. Dr. Prosper Chimedza, alongside his partner in crime, Lloyd Mwembe, 33, appeared before Harare regional magistrate Donald Ndirowei to face the music.

The duo’s fate was sealed as they were jointly charged and slapped with a bail bond of US$100 each, keeping them out of custody until their next court appearance on July 10.

According to Prosecutor Lancelot Mutsokoti, the scheme kicked off back in November 2023, when Ruth Ruparaganda had her sights set on snagging a car through a sweet government rebate deal. Mwembe swooped in to lend a hand, using Chimedza’s credentials to secure a vehicle all the way from Japan.

But here’s where it gets dicey: They didn’t play fair. Nope, they cooked up a phony rebate letter with the help of a former Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (Zimra) officer named Yvonne Musoni, who conveniently had ties to Chimedza.

Fast forward to January 23, 2023, and the dynamic duo breezed through Kariba Border Post with their bogus letter in hand, dodging import duty fees like it was nobody’s business. But their slick moves came at a cost, leaving Zimra shortchanged to the tune of US$4,175.

Now, as the courtroom drama unfolds, all eyes are on Dr. Chimedza and Mwembe as they navigate the legal labyrinth ahead. Stay tuned for more updates as this story continues to unfold.

Real Madrid Seal LaLiga Title

Real Madrid claimed a record-extending 36th LaLiga title on Saturday after Girona’s 4-2 thrashing of local rivals Barcelona left Carlo Ancelotti’s side with an unassailable lead in the standings.

With four games left, Real Madrid moved to 87 points on top of the standings after their second-string players earned a 3-0 over relegation threatened Cadiz earlier on Saturday, 13 ahead of Girona in second and 14 clear of third-placed Barcelona.

Xavi Hernandez’s side were the only one left who could prevent their bitter rivals Real lifting the title, but their faint hopes were extinguished in Girona as they fell to their second league defeat in three matches.

Real Madrid now can turn their attention to a LaLiga-Champions League double as they get ready to host Bayern Munich in the semi-final return leg on Wednesday after snatching a 2-2 draw in Germany last week.
