Fake “Child Psychologist” Jailed

By A Correspondent- A man who used false documents to secure employment as a child psychologist and “live a fake life” has been jailed for four years.

Nikiwe Dube (41) with an address at Colpe Drive, Deepforde, Drogheda, Co Louth pleaded guilty to four charges of using a false instrument on dates between November 2019 and February 2022 including a psychological transcript with a false garda stamp, a false identification badge purportedly from the Psychological Society of Ireland (PSI) and a fake medical certificate.

He further pleaded guilty to two counts of deception in that he dishonestly induced TTM Healthcare to put him on their books of employment, causing a loss, on a date between August 15th, 2021 and September 9th, 2021 and that he did dishonestly induce the HSE to give him an interview towards employment on August 18th, 2022.

Dube used false documents to secure employment as a child psychologist in the public and private healthcare sectors when he didn’t have the required academic qualifications, the court heard.

Imposing sentence on Wednesday, Judge Elva Duffy said Dube had put himself “out there” as a medically-trained professional and was working with children and adolescents who were clearly in a very vulnerable position because they had come looking for help.

‘A Complex fraud’

She said Dube knew what he was doing and described it as “a complex fraud”. She said he had chosen to “live a fake life” where he abused trust and received significant money for his work.

Judge Duffy said Dube carried out this fraud “without an apparent purpose” and “set himself out to be someone he was not”.

She also noted that the State confirmed that the gardaí have not been able to confirm Dube’s true identity and said “that is of some concern to the court”.

Judge Duffy acknowledged that Dube made immediate admissions, has expressed remorse and that his plea of guilty was valuable as it would have been a difficult case to prove. She further acknowledged a positive probation report and governor’s report and the fact that Dube is a diabetic.

She said the case warranted a headline sentence of five and half years before she imposed a sentence of four years, having taken the mitigation into account. The sentence was backdated to when Dube first went into custody on August 5th, 2022.

The court heard that in February 2022, Dube was put forward for a senior post as a child psychologist with an annual salary of €80,000 by recruitment agency, TTM Healthcare.

Application

This application was reviewed by the head of psychology at Avista Medical, who had some concerns that the submitted documents, including a letter of validation, did not conform with the standard content and format.

This person brought his concerns to the attention of the human resources department.

Separately on March 15th, 2022, an assistant principal officer in the Department of Health’s professional regulation unit, which is responsible for the validation of foreign psychology qualifications, told gardaí they had been contacted by Avista in relation to the letter of validation included in Dube’s application.

The Department of Health staff member said the unit had checked their archives and had no record of Dube.

As such, the letter of validation was not issued by the Department of Health. Further enquiries determined the letter of validation to be false.

Gardaí then contacted the recruitment agency TTM Healthcare, who provided them with documents including a letter of validation, a GNIB card, transcripts from the University of Zimbabwe and a Zimbabwean police clearance certificate.

The court also heard Dube was employed by Gateway Residential Care in Sligo between November 2019 and November 2021 as a child psychologist. He received €172,000 in wages and expenses during this period.

Gateway Residential Care provided gardaí in March 2022 with documents including a letter of good standing from the PSI and documentation from the University of Zimbabwe including a qualification in psychology.

Gardaí also spoke with a recruitment consultant working for TTM Healthcare who said Dube contacted them in August 2021 about a vacancy for a HSE clinical post. Dube was screened, and it was confirmed that he met the requirements of the post.

Dube provided documents to TTM Healthcare including a Master of Science in clinical psychology transcript, a diploma in cognitive behavioural therapy, his GNIB card and a letter of validation. Garda vetting forms for TTM Healthcare and the HSE were also completed.

Dube was approved for a locum post in November 2021, however TTM paid his wages of €11,628 during this period due to outstanding garda vetting.

The investigating garda confirmed that much of Dube’s work was carried out remotely due to the Covid-19 pandemic and he had limited interaction with patients, both supervised and unsupervised.

Dube also had an identification badge purportedly from the PSI, however the society does not issue badges. The PSI contacted the University of Zimbabwe, whose staff confirmed that Dube had not studied there.

In May 2022, a garda at the Navan Garda Immigration Office confirmed that a stamp on a transcript did not originate from that office.

Gardaí arrested Dube in August 2022 in Drogheda. After caution, he told gardaí that he had been expecting this, but not at that moment.

He told them that he had paid over €4,300 online for a pack of documents and that he knew he should not have done it.

Dube made no comment when interviewed. He has no previous convictions and has been in custody since August 5, 2022.

The investigating garda agreed with Gerardine Small SC, defending, that her client made admissions when first approached by gardaí. He also confirmed that Dube had been in custody since his arrest and that his guilty plea avoided what would have been a complex trial.

No victim impact statements were provided to the court.

Ms Small asked the court to take into consideration her client’s early guilty plea, immediate admissions and expressions of remorse. She said her client had educational attainment in this area.

Dube was born in Zimbabwe and worked as a LGBT counsellor for six years, the court heard. He had to flee the country due to concerns for his safety and applied for international protection in 2018.

A governor’s report and an education report were handed to the court. Dube is an enhanced prisoner and works in the prison laundry. He also volunteers as a listener with the Samaritans.

A letter of apology was also handed to the court. Dube is diabetic and has issues with cholesterol for which he takes medication.

Ms Small said Dube is aware of the “serious breach of trust” and the seriousness of the offence. She noted that he accepts that he sought refuge in a country and his “behaviour towards that country is wholly unacceptable”.

Lover Hits Back, Pours Boiling Oil On Boyfriend

By A Correspondent- It is normal, occasionally, in any relationship that tempers flare and hurtful words are spoken.

But what happens when you discover that your loved one is cheating on you?

Wonder no more!

Tofara Masendu (28) from Bulawayo was left groaning in agony after his girlfriend Sithandazile Ncube (20) scalded his face and genitals with boiling cooking oil after he assaulted her as punishment for allegedly double-crossing him.

A source close to the incident said Masendu was relaxing on the bed with his girlfriend at his place at a flat in the city centre when they had a fallout.

“Masendu told her that he bumped into raunchy chats on her phone which she was exchanging with another man. After that he accused her of cheating on him,” the source said.

The source said in the midst of that the pair exchanged harsh words which resulted in Masendu bashing her.

“He grabbed her before throttling her. He then punched her and kicked her all over the body while accusing her of disrespecting him and cheating on him,” said the source.

After bashing her, Masendu relaxed on the bed and subsequently fell asleep and it was during that time when things turned nasty for him.

“His girlfriend boiled cooking oil and poured it on his face and genitals. After that she fled leaving him groaning in agony,” the source said.

Masendu reported the incident at Bulawayo Central Police Station leading to the arrest of his girlfriend.

Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the incident.

He said: “We urge community members to engage third parties such as friends, relatives or pastors rather than resorting to violence because such unbecoming behaviour might lead to an unnecessary loss of life.”

Efforts to get a comment from Masendu were fruitless

6 Die In Rusape Accident

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the accident to ZBC News, saying three people died on the spot while the others died on admission at Rusape General Hospital.

Asst Comm Nyathi said that a Harare-bound commuter omnibus side-swiped a haulage truck, as the driver tried to overtake at a sharp curve before Rusape tollgate.

Six other people who were in the commuter omnibus are admitted at Rusape General Hospital after sustaining injuries.

Chigodora Family In Soup Over Missing Corpse

By A Correspondent- A Chigodora family is in hot soup after it discreetly reburied its six-year-old child’s empty coffin following the vandalisation of the grave, coffin and body.

Three years down the line, the whereabouts of the corpse that was dug up soon after its burial remain unknown.

Although the father’s child, Joe Mureyani, later passed on under mysterious circumstances and his wife relocated to South Africa, members of the Mureyani family were dragged to Headman Chigodora’s court last Saturday to explain why they never bothered to inform the local traditional leadership following the incident.

The issue has since been transferred to Acting Chief Zimunya’s court and will be heard on August 6.

Headman Chigodora’s court heard that three years ago, the Mureyani family did not report to the traditional leadership that its son’s body and coffin had vanished from the grave after burial.

However, the family made a police report.

Headman Chigodora said the coffin was later found, but the body is still missing, three years later.
Asked why they did not report the matter to their Village Head or Headman Chigodora, the family begged for forgiveness.

Derrick Mureyani narrated: “My aunt was walking past the grave when she discovered that it had been tampered with. The grave had been dug and the coffin removed. This happened a few days after the child’s burial. We told our elders, and we conducted a search, but found nothing.

“However, days later, someone saw a child’s coffin inside the house of a villager who is mentally-challenged. The coffin looked like the one that we had buried the child in.

“Police were alerted and the villager was arrested. He was taken to the psychiatric unit where he was evaluated and was released recently.

“However, the body is yet to be found up to this day,” said Mureyani.

Inside the coffin that was found in the villager’s house was the shroud that the child’s body was wrapped in, as well as his clothes that had been put in his grave.

Headman Chigodora accused the family of performing rituals at the cemetery without notifying the traditional leadership.

“As far as I am concerned, that child’s spirit is roaming around this area because the body is yet to be found. This is probably why your family is suffering from mysterious illnesses.

“You had no right to visit the cemetery and perform your rituals without notifying the local leadership.

“You reburied the empty coffin on your own without informing anyone. This shows that you were trying to cover up something. Since you do not want to tell this court why you never reported this matter, it is proper for me to transfer the matter to Chief Zimunya’s court,” said Headman Chigodora.

The family then said the traditional healers they consulted over the matter accused the family’s patriarch, Zacharia Mureyani, of being behind the corpse’s disappearance; as well as Joe’s death.

“After the mysterious disappearance of the child’s corpse, Zacharia ordered Joe to deliver some red cloth to Clever’s home. Joe was not aware that this was a ploy to kill Clever.

“However, this backfired on Joe and he died shortly afterwards. This matter was also kept under wraps for three years.

‘‘This means that both Joe and his son’s restless spirit are still roaming around this area,” said Shepherd Mureyani, a family member.

“We were told by a traditional healer that the late family members’ spirits are roaming around Zacharia’s homestead and there will be no peace within this family until he confesses.

“Zacharia confessed on that day, but has not done anything to save the situation,” said Shepherd.

However, Zacharia vehemently denied being responsible for the disappearance of the child’s corpse.

“The truth is that there are a lot of witches and wizards in our family and people should not only accuse me,” he said.

HC Barring 12 CCC Contesting 2023 Is Foolish And Symptomatic Of Judiciary Rot

By Wilbert Mukori| I have had the opportunity to read the High Court judgement barring the 12 CCC Bulawayo candidates from contesting the 23 August 2023. I am not a lawyer but one does not have to be a lawyer to see the judgement was absurd, so absurd not even a kangaroo court would come up with such foolish judgement.

If at all possible, everyone must try to read the judgement for yourself. It really is a must read! You will know why Zimbabwe is a failed state, with this corrupt and utterly useless public institutions it is no surprise we are a failed state!

Here are some the extracts from the 24 page judgement.

“The applicants are moving me to grant them a declarator and consequential relief, ” reads the High Court judgement, dated 27 July 2023

“The premise of this application on the provisions of the Electoral Act Chapter 2:13 (the ACT). Their bone of contention is that the commission which sat as the nomination court at the Bulawayo Magistrates Court, Tredgold Building on 21 June 2023 violated the law, in particular, s 46/ 7 & 8 of the Act when it accepted (my emphasis) the Respondents’ (12 CCC candidates) nomination papers for elections to members of the National House of Assembly of Zimbabwe in the the election which are to be held on 23 August 2023 after 16.00 hour and proceeded to sit to the early hours of 22 June 2023.”

It should be noted from the onset that the law accepts the principle that all those already in the queue at the designated closing time, will have their nomination papers processed. This is nothing new, the same principle is applies on voting day. And so we can zoom in to establish who was in the queue before the cut off hour of 16.00.

The Magistrate or a Judge presides over the nomination court but the person responsible for processing the nomination papers, the payment of the nomination fees, etc. and, for our purpose, the flow of the candidates submitting their nomination papers is the ZEC official, the 1st Respondent, in this case.

“The 1 st Respondent stated that he did not receive any nomination papers other than in terms of the law i.e. between 10 am and 4pm on nomination day and did not adjourn the nomination court beyond the prescribed nomination day,” state the HC judgement.

“The nomination courtroom was very small and could accommodate between 12 and 15 people at a time. The balance could queue outside and wait for their turn. At 15.55 hours he instructed a Police Officer deployed at the Nomination court to collect nomination papers from any person with nomination papers outside and bring them to him.

“The Police Officer complied and collected between 40 and 50 nomination papers and handed them over to him.

“ At 4 pm he declared the Court closed.

“Annex B is a register that records the times when the nomination forms were captured in the system by the Secretary and not the time when they were submitted by the candidates.

“The affidavits of the staffers are broadly in support of the averments of the 1 st Respondent.”

Case closed, you would think. The surprise was the judge’s contemptuous disregard of the facts!

“ I have accepted the facts as pleaded by the 1st respondent,” acknowledged the judgement before the volte-face.

“The 1 st Respondent stated in his affidavit that he only interacted with the individual Respondents when they submitted their nomination papers. Annex B shows when each Respondent submitted his or her nomination papers. Annex B is a document compiled by public officials during the course of their duty in service of the stateLong after 4 pm the majority of the Respondents filed their nomination papers.

“The 1st Respondent and his staffers have said the times indicated in Annex B are not what they purport to be. I find this explanation to be strange and improbable to the extend of being false.”

“Annex B speaks for itself. It does not need to be explained away by anyone including the 1 st Respondent and his staffer. In all probability, the 1 st Respondent comes up with this explanation upon realising that this application has put him and ZEC on trial.”

The 1 st Respondent has said he collected all the nomination papers of all those in the courtroom and in the queue outside at 15.55 hours – this marks the time the last nomination papers were ACCEPTED. Annex B gives the time when each nomination paper was entered and captured in the system. Why the judge is insisting on the Annex B time must be the time the nomination papers were accepted does not make any sense if the principle that all those already in the queue at 16.00 hours can be processed.

Please note Annex B was NOT included in the judgement I have seen. If it was, one could compare how many nomination papers were processed after 16.00 hours and compare that with the 40 or 50 the 1 st respondent said he collected at 15.55 hours.

“From the evidence available which is the 1st Respondent’s affidavit where he says that he only interacted with the Respondents when they submitted their papers, Annexe B, the allegations, and denials all taken together I come to the conclusion that the Respondents except one, submitted their nomination papers in violation of the law,” continued the judgement.

“The Nomination Court closed at 4 pm. Once closed it was no longer sitting in open court and by the time the respondents sat before him they were not doing so in open court. The separation of the papers from the Respondents through the medium of the Police Officer was unlawful.

“The statute says the candidate or his/her agent must be in court and ready to submit at 4 pm. It does not say that the candidate’s papers alone must be in the courtroom.”

What was wrong with 1st Respondent collecting all the nomination of those in the queue just before 4 pm?

The courtroom could only hold 12 or 15 candidates and so to insist that only those “in court and ready to submit at 4 pm” could be processed is just being pedantic and foolish.

The CCC contestants have appealed the shamelessly partisan High Court, it is hard to image any judge giving such a judgement if the candidate were Zanu PF. After all it was the same judiciary that said the 2017 military coup was “justifies, legal and constitutional!”

Read the judgement if you can and you will know why it is hopeless to ever think Zimbabwe can ever become a healthy and functioning democratic nation without first implementing the democratic reforms and overhauling all state institutions. Why MDC leaders failed to implement even one token reform when they had the golden opportunity to do so beggars belief!

CCC Appeals Against Ouster Of 12 Parly Candidates

HARARE – Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) has vowed to exhaust both legal and regional diplomatic remedies to reverse the ouster of 12 party candidates from contesting for Bulawayo parliamentary seats with party spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere describing the court ruling as unconstitutional.

Bulawayo High Court judge Bongani Ndlovu on Thursday ruled in favour of Zanu PF activists who had argued the affected candidates surrendered their right to take part in the August 23 poll after filing their nomination papers out of the stipulated 4PM deadline.

The judgement meant that Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube could walk into parliament unopposed as his Cowdray Park challenger Pashor Sibanda of CCC has been disqualified.

Other seats that have been presented to Zanu PF on a silver platter include Bulawayo Central where Tendayi Charuka of Zanu PF was set to contest CCC’s Surrender Kapoikilu while in Bulawayo South, Zanu PF’s Raj Modi was set to face CCC’s Jane Nicola Watson.

The ruling has been met with a groundswell of disapproval from CCC and the broader civil society which accuse the ruling Zanu PF authority of manipulating the judiciary to gain poll advantage.

In a statement Thursday, Mahere said the party will use both legal and diplomatic solutions to the challenge.

“The CCC will urgently file an appeal against today’s judgment as well as invoke all legal, political and regional measures available under Zimbabwe’s Constitution as well as the SADC and African Union mechanisms to ensure that the ability of the citizens to choose their leaders as required by our supreme law is respected and duly safeguarded.

“As we challenge today’s decision, we remain unshaken in the fight for change and a New Great Zimbabwe that works for everyone and where the authority to govern is derived from the people, and not from those who wish to undermine the Constitution and the voice of the citizens,” Mahere said.

“Even at his worst, Robert Mugabe never tried to remove opponents whom he feared from the ballot paper.

“Zanu PF’s removal of 12 Bulawayo candidates renders this a full-blown dictatorship and an outpost of tyranny,” Mahere said, adding that the court decision militated against citizens’ right to elect leaders of their choice.

A Supreme Court appeal would suspend Justice Ndlovu’s judgement.

High Court Ruling On 12 CCC Candidates Could Backfire On ZANU PF

By A Correspondent| The High Court ruling which barred 12 CCC candidates from contesting for parliamentary seats in Bulawayo could backfire on Zanu PF after it was discovered that Deputy Industry minister Raj Modi filed his nomination papers after the 4PM deadline.

According to journalist, Mduduzi Mathuthu, a registered voter in Bulawayo is in the process of taking Modi to court over his failure to file nomination papers before 4PM.

“I understand a registered voter is taking Raj Modi to court for filing his nomination papers for Bulawayo South “out of time”. This document was interpreted by Justice Bongani Ndlovu as the time when candidates filed nomination papers, and it says 4.20PM for Modi,” said Mathuthu.

Usafarisa, Chamisa Tells Mnangagwa

CCC leader Nelson Chamisa has launched an angry tirade against President Emmerson Mnangagwa whom he accuses of masterminding a court ban on 12 party parliamentary candidates in Bulawayo.

Addressing party supporters at a campaign rally in Kadoma on Thursday, Chamisa said Mnangagwa should take responsibility for driving the country into anarchy through disqualifying opponents from the electoral process.

“Usafarisa (stop being too excited).

“No one will be in power forever. He (Mnangagwa) should ask (former President Mugabe) on this matter.

“He should ask (former Libya President Gadaffi), he should ask (former DRC President) Mobutu Sese Seko; no matter how strong a dictator, your time will come.”

Chamisa vowed to resist the disqualification of party candidates in Bulawayo.

He further accused Mnangagwa of unnecessarily bringing anarchy into the country by resorting to underhand tactics to gain poll head start.

Jonso Helps Military Attack Chamisa Worse Than Chiwenga

Professor Jonathan Moyo’s Contradictions Exposed: Using Matabeleland as a Political Pawn

In recent developments surrounding the nullification of 12 parliamentary candidates in Bulawayo province, Advocate Nelson Chamisa and his party, the CCC, have come under attack from Professor Jonathan Moyo. However, a closer examination of Moyo’s statements reveals glaring contradictions and opportunistic behavior. This article aims to shed light on the inconsistencies in Moyo’s stance while examining his historical alignments with different political figures.

1. Opportunistic Attacks on Nelson Chamisa:

Professor Jonathan Moyo’s recent attacks on Advocate Nelson Chamisa and the CCC are not without controversy. He accuses Chamisa’s party of lacking a constitution, structures, and a bank account, thereby suggesting incompetence and disorganization. However, it is essential to question Moyo’s motives behind these attacks, considering his own political history.

2. Historical Ties to Emmerson Mnangagwa:

Contrary to his vehement criticism of Chamisa, Professor Jonathan Moyo has previously shown support for Emmerson Mnangagwa, the incumbent President of Zimbabwe. Moyo’s alignment with Mnangagwa raises doubts about the objectivity of his attacks on Chamisa. It appears that Moyo’s political alliances have influenced his stance on different issues, including the Bulawayo nomination dispute.

3. Contradiction on Regional Bias:

One of Moyo’s claims against Chamisa is that the CCC used Matabeleland as a scapegoat to compensate for its internal shortcomings. However, this argument exposes Moyo’s own contradictions. He accuses Chamisa of targeting Matabeleland, yet Moyo himself has aligned with Mnangagwa, who has faced criticism for prejudicing Matabeleland during his tenure.

4. Misplaced Accusations:

Moyo’s accusations that Chamisa deliberately and illegally submitted nomination papers late at night fail to consider the wider context. The narrative overlooks the fact that several political parties and independent candidates also submitted nominations on the last day, suggesting that it might have been a common practice.

5. Using Matabeleland as a Political Pawn:

Moyo’s exploitation of the Matabeleland region to further his political agenda is both insensitive and irresponsible. By attempting to draw Matabeleland into a dispute that has no direct connection to the region, Moyo risks deepening divides and inciting unnecessary tensions.

The contradictions in Professor Jonathan Moyo’s recent attacks on Advocate Nelson Chamisa and the CCC raise serious questions about his credibility and motives. His historical affiliations with different political figures, particularly his support for Emmerson Mnangagwa, cast doubt on the sincerity of his criticism. Using Matabeleland as a political pawn to advance personal interests is not only reprehensible but also detrimental to the unity and progress of Zimbabwe. It is crucial to hold public figures accountable for their words and actions and to strive for a more inclusive and harmonious political landscape in the country.

Violence, As Police Detain CCC Members Without Charge

Unveiling the Disparities: The Treatment of CCC Members vs. Ruling ZANU PF Members by Zimbabwean Authorities

In a recent incident that has raised concerns about the fairness of law enforcement in Zimbabwe, three members of the Citizen Coalition for Change (CCC) in Gutu South were allegedly detained for 11 hours without charge at ZRP Mpandawana. This incident has ignited debates about the differential treatment of opposition members compared to ruling ZANU PF members who seemingly enjoy immunity from arrest.

According to CCC Gutu South Ward 18 Councillor, Desire Tichazorwa, the trio comprising Ezekiel Hwerekwere, David Mushariwa, and another individual, were subjected to detention without any formal charges being filed against them. The lack of transparency and the prolonged detention without clear grounds for arrest have raised concerns about the impartiality of Zimbabwe’s law enforcement agencies.

Councillor Tichazorwa revealed that the three CCC members were released around midnight by a member of the ZRP Criminal Investigations Department (CID) identified only as Guuriro. It is alarming that no charges were brought against them despite their prolonged detention. This incident raises questions about the adherence to due process and the protection of citizens’ rights, regardless of their political affiliation.

Adding to the complexity of the situation, Councillor Tichazorwa asserted that the detained CCC members were assaulted by a ZANU PF member, Norman Maungwa, in full view of the police officers at Maungwa Police Base. This shocking revelation underscores the notion that ruling party members seemingly operate with impunity, perpetuating a perception of a two-tiered justice system in Zimbabwe.

The lack of accountability for Maungwa’s actions has drawn criticism from the CCC and has highlighted the apparent bias in the treatment of political actors in the country. Despite evidence of assault and reported involvement in a previous violent incident against CCC Gutu South parliamentary candidate Hamandishe Gobvu, Maungwa has not faced any consequences for his alleged actions.

While attempts were made to reach ZRP Mpandawana Officer-In-Charge Cames Myambo for comment, his unavailability has added to the opacity surrounding the incident. Transparency and accountability in the actions of law enforcement are crucial to ensure that all citizens are treated fairly and justly.

CCC members maintain that their abduction at Maungwa Business Centre by alleged ZANU PF youth raises further doubts about the fairness of the process. It is essential for the Zimbabwean authorities to investigate such claims thoroughly and demonstrate their commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring the safety and rights of all citizens.

This incident involving the CCC members and the apparent lack of repercussions for the accused ZANU PF member have fueled perceptions of a double standard in the treatment of political actors. Such perceptions can significantly erode public trust in the country’s institutions and exacerbate political tensions.

The treatment of CCC members without charge and the alleged leniency towards ruling ZANU PF members raise serious concerns about the fairness and impartiality of Zimbabwe’s law enforcement and judicial system. It is imperative for the authorities to address these concerns promptly and transparently, ensuring that all citizens are equal before the law, regardless of their political affiliations. Only by upholding the principles of justice, accountability, and the rule of law can Zimbabwe progress toward a more inclusive and democratic future.

Zimbabwe 2023 Elections: A Farce of Democracy and Disenfranchisement

By Sithole As Zimbabwe approached its harmonised general election in 2023, concerns about the integrity of the electoral process have been on the rise. Recent events have further intensified skepticism, with several activities raising questions about the state of democracy in the country. The judiciary’s involvement has come under scrutiny, with controversial decisions affecting prominent candidates and raising doubts about the election’s fairness.

In the latest development, the Supreme Court upheld the High Court ruling to exclude Savour Kasukuwere from the ballot. This decision has raised eyebrows, as it adds to the list of candidates facing disqualification. Just a day prior, 12 CCC candidates were barred from contesting, casting shadows over the credibility of the electoral system.

The repeated occurrences of court rulings disqualifying candidates have led many to question the legitimacy of the upcoming elections. Citizens are left wondering where the nation is heading and how long this farce can persist. The situation has sparked public outrage, as it appears that political leaders are using legal mechanisms to stifle opposition and manipulate the election process.

Savour Kasukuwere’s recent tweet about the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) visiting his house has further fueled suspicions of witch-hunting against opposition figures. This move raises concerns about the criminalisation of political participation and undermines the democratic principles that the nation should uphold.

Comparisons to past regimes have emerged, with some expressing the belief that the current administration is worse than the Mugabe and Smith era. Critics claim that the authorities are on a looting spree, seemingly prioritising their interests over the welfare of the nation. The lack of transparency and apparent abuse of power have left citizens disillusioned, with many regretting the initial support for the coup that brought about this regime.

African leaders have also come under criticism for not holding each other accountable and instead blaming external influences for these troubling exercises. Observers note that the reluctance to address these issues directly only serves to perpetuate an environment of injustice and disenfranchisement.

Recent incidents involving the imprisonment of opposition figures, Jacob Ngarume and Job Sikala, have only added to the atmosphere of intimidation. These actions are viewed as attempts to silence dissenting voices and deter individuals from engaging in the political process.

The courts’ role in disenfranchising the population cannot be ignored. Instead of serving as guardians of justice, the judiciary’s actions have raised suspicions that they may be operating to protect the interests of those in power, undermining the trust of the people in the electoral system.

As the nation approaches the 2023 elections, it is imperative for leaders to address the growing concerns and work towards a more transparent and fair electoral process. Respect for democracy and the protection of citizens’ rights to participate in politics without fear of persecution or disqualification should be at the core of Zimbabwe’s electoral landscape. Only through genuine efforts to uphold democratic principles can Zimbabwe move towards a future where the will of the people is genuinely represented.

Ighalo Says CR7 After Cash

Former Nigeria captain Odion Ighalo believes Cristiano Ronaldo’s move to Saudi Arabia was not out of his passion for football but about money.

Ronaldo became the highest paid footballer in the world after joining Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr in January this year on a free transfer following his departure at Manchester United.

The 39-year-old signed a two-year-contract worth £173million-per-year ($222m or €200m).

The move has ushered a wave of big-name transfers such as Karim Benzema, N’Golo Kante, Roberto Firmino, Jordan Henderson and Ruben Neves.

Ighalo, who was the top scorer in the Saudi Pro League last season, thinks the motivations behind his and other stars’ decision to play in Saudi Arabia boil down to money.

The Nigerian spent two years at Al Hilal before his release last month.

He said to OmaSportsTV, as cited by Goal.com: “When you are young, yes, you play for passion. Back then, you don’t care about money. But at my age, I am in the final stretch of my career, I don’t know if it will be one, two years or when God will tell it to stop.

“I know it won’t be more than three years. I’ve played for passion all my life, now it’s for money. I’m not one of those players who come and say: ‘I play for passion’. Brother, it’s money. At the end of the day, it’s money.

“Is Ronaldo still playing out of passion? Ronaldo has earned 100 times more than I have in my entire life and yet he went to Saudi Arabia. Did he do that out of passion? It’s for money, bro.”-Soccer24 News

Who Is At Risk Of Drowning?

Drowning has caused over 2.5 million deaths in the last decade. The overwhelming majority of these deaths (90%) happen in low- and middle-income countries. Globally, the highest drowning rates occur among children aged 1–4 years, followed by children aged 5–9 years.

The human, social and economic toll of these losses is intolerably high, and entirely preventable.

In 2023, the 76th World Health Assembly adopted its first ever resolution on drowning prevention. The resolution accepts the invitation of the United Nations General Assembly for WHO to coordinate actions within the UN system on drowning prevention and facilitate the observance of World Drowning Prevention Day on 25 July each year.

To mark this year’s World Drowning Prevention Day, WHO will continue to focus on raising awareness on drowning as a public health issue, reminding people that anyone can drown, but no one should.

We are also raising awareness on the six evidence-based, low-cost drowning prevention interventions that countries and organizations can use to drastically reduce the risk of drowning.

The Finland-bound youngster has only featured five times for the Harare giants, scoring twice in the process.

He becomes the second Dynamos youngster, after Bill Antonio to be recruited by a European club in a space of two years.

Dynamos coach, Maruwa said, “Yes, he will go anytime soon maybe for good not trials, for good. Having youngsters going to play outside helps us as a team and as a nation in developing players who can make it in Europe. He’s very talented, one of the best from the new generation.”

Meanwhile, the Harare giants are unfazed by last weekend’s defeat at the hands of Green Fuel and have nothing short of three points on their agenda, when they host Yadah at Barbourfields this Sunday.

Mnangagwa Blames Western Countries For Crisis

Speech by President Emmerson Mnangagwa at the Panel discussion between like-minded political parties in Russia

On behalf of the Republic of Zimbabwe and the ruling party, ZANU PF, I am grateful to be part of this platform at the Russia-Africa Summit.

Today, we acknowledge the significant role that Russia played in Africa’s liberation movements and their fight against imperialism.

This historical link between Africa and Russia serves as a moral compass for dismantling various forms of imperialism.

Zimbabwe remains committed to the cause of harmony among nations and revolutionary parties gathered here.

Excellences, comrades, and friends,

Zimbabwe is dedicated to challenging the asymmetrical global world order that exploits the Global South.

Our aim for global integration and multi-lateral cohesion is rooted in the desire for peace, unity and development.

Our support for the Russian Federation as a consistent global ally is unwavering more so that both our nations continue to be subjected to unjust and illegal imperialist sanctions.

The convening of the 2023 Russia-Africa Summit is particularly fitting as Zimbabwe will be having Harmonized Elections on 23 August 2023.

ZANU PF seeks a new mandate from the people of Zimbabwe.

We are emboldened by the fact that we fought a protracted liberation war, with the support of the progressive world, in particular the then USSR and the People’s Republic of China.

As ZANU PF we fought for the democracy, freedom and independence which were denied our people by Western colonisers for over 100 years.

We therefore reject any attempt by the same people to teach us democracy and other forms of interference in our internal affairs, under whatever guise.

The ZANU PF mass revolutionary Party remain the only Party with the interest of the Zimbabwean people at the centre of its ideology.

Zimbabwe under the ZANU PF Government will therefore never capitulate to the machinations of our detractors.

We are confident that the people of Zimbabwe have seen those advancing their development and prosperity.

The puppet pseudo opposition political parties which have instigated the suffering and hardships under illegal sanctions shall once again be rejected by the masses of Zimbabwe.

In the face of continued assault on our sovereignty socio-economic and territorial integrity, the ZANU PF Government of Zimbabwe is engaging with all nations under our foreign policy of “friend to all and enemy of none”.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Zimbabwe’s previous vulnerability to economic isolation, reinforced by illegal regime change sanctions, has led us to value the establishment of a democratic global society.

We draw inspiration from the Founding Fathers of African independence and understand the importance of political and economic liberation for our economic growth.

Colonialism tried to steal our identity; now independence and renewed resolve to be masters over our own resources and our own destiny is restoring our sense of pride, self belief and dignity.

Consequently, we take pride in our development philosophy that, “A country is built and ruled by its own people”. Nyika inovakwa, inotongwa nevene vayo. Ilizwe lakhiwa, libuswa ngabanikazi balo.

Hence, over the past five years, ZANU PF has been focused on delivering rapid economic growth and has fulfilled promises made to the people of Zimbabwe in 2018.

Under the motto of “Leaving no one and no place behind,” we have prioritized agriculture towards attaining both household and national food security.

Additionally, infrastructure development focusing on economic enablers such as energy, transport networks and dam construction as well as irrigation development to mitigate the impact of climate change.

Concurrently, our education system has evolved to emphasise science, technology and innovation to leap-frog modernisation and industrialisation of our economy.

ZANU PF has implemented pro-people sustainable development initiatives aligned with our people’s desire for prosperity and a higher quality of life. We implemented the concept of devolution, ensuring participatory governance and service delivery that reaches the ordinary citizens.

Additionally, we have seen a mining sector growth grow about three fold from a US$2.8 billion to a $12 billion mining industry, in less than 5 years, riding on our abundant geological resources. Our government aims to transform Zimbabwe into an upper-middle- income economy by 2030.

Based on the unprecedented rate of delivery of people-centred and life transforming policies, programmes and projects, we are confident of a resounding win for ZANU PF in the upcoming Harmonized General Elections.

The Government of Zimbabwe welcomes international observers and the media to witness our success.

I want to assure the international community that our Harmonized General Elections will be peaceful, free and credible. The people of Zimbabwe are a humble and peace- loving nation.

We denounce all forms of violence and strive for a united nation before, during and elections. This is what we desire for ourselves as the united people of Zimbabwe. We invite progressive
members of the international community to support us in our pursuit of peace, security, development and prosperity.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to express the solidarity of ZANU PF to this noble cause.

I thank you

12 Chamisa MPs Kicked Out Of Election Race

By- A Bulawayo Judge has blocked twelve Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) MP candidates from contesting the 2023 elections for filing their nomination papers after the regulated time of 4 PM on 21 June.

Three others from other opposition parties are set to be struck off the ballot.

Justice Bongani Ndlovu ruled:

It is declared that the decision of the first respondent (ZEC), sitting as a Nomination Court at Bulawayo on 21 and 22 June 2023 to accept the respondents’ nomination papers and candidature in the elections scheduled for 23 August 2023 is declared null and void and is hereby set aside.

This could result in ZANU PF winning all 12 National Assembly seats in Bulawayo unopposed, as they did in Bulawayo South in the previous elections. Finance and Economic Development Minister Professor Mthuli Ncube is among ZANU PF candidates now elected unopposed.

CCC national spokesperson, Fadzayi Mahere, has stated that the party will appeal against the ruling. In a Twitter post seen by Pindula News, Mahere said:

We’ve received a report that our @CCCZimbabwe candidates in Bulawayo have been barred from contesting. Details to follow.

The @CCCZimbabwe will appeal against the Byo Judgment. Citizens have the right to nominate candidates within the ambit of the law & to be represented by MPs that they choose in a free & fair election. The right to parliamentary representation of choice is sacred. #ForEveryone

Some background:

On 19 July, the Electoral Court consolidated a dozen applications filed by ZANU PF activists seeking to have CCC National Assembly candidates in Bulawayo disqualified from the 23 August elections. The applicants, who only described themselves as “registered voters,” argued that CCC, other opposition parties, and independents filed their nomination papers after the regulated time of 4 PM on 21 June and should not be allowed to contest.

CCC claims that all its candidates in Bulawayo filed their papers by 4 PM, but the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) asked them to correct signature anomalies on the forms. The party argues that its candidates were ready to file the corrected forms by 4 PM and were present at the Nomination Court, but ZEC was assisting other candidates. The process continued into the wee hours of 22 June. The candidates have argued in a court filing that their papers were delivered to ZEC before 4 PM, but the nomination papers appear to have suddenly disappeared while in the court’s custody.

ZEC lawyers argued that the CCC applicants were given all the facilities and rights prescribed by the Electoral Act and were not denied their right to file nomination papers. They argued that Mr Ncube, ZEC’s Nomination Officer, explained that he announced the close of the Nomination Court and invited all present to submit their nomination papers. He said he further instructed the police officers to collect all nomination papers outside the court, except those already inside.

ZEC lawyers added that when Ncube examined the party lists for the CCC, he found that the party had submitted three party lists for Senatorial, National Assembly and Youth quota, but did not have one for the provincial council. He then sent their representative back to make corrections on anomalies. The lawyers said the corrected party-list nomination papers were returned with the provincial council party list added, which was not part of the original submission. Ncube denied losing the nomination papers of the CCC members and stated that the factual narration given by the applicants is not correct.

Mavaza Legal Opinion On CCC 12 Verdict | FULL TEXT

Ruling by the high Court excluding late submission of candidature.

By Dr Masimba Mavaza | A High Court judge on Thursday 27th July 2023 barred 12 Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) candidates for the National Assembly from taking part in the August 23 elections, ruling that their nomination papers were filed out of time.
Justice Bongani Ndlovu’s judgement carries mixed feelings in the legal fraternity and raised devastating consequences for the country’s main opposition party which now cannot have any representation in the Senate from Bulawayo province, or take up any youth and women’s quota seats in the National Assembly, where seats are allocated on the basis of proportional representation based on votes each party obtains in elections for National Assembly representatives.
“It also means the party is now denied a decent share of cash under the Political Parties (Finance) Act because that’s only determined by votes for National Assembly candidates,”

We all know that His Excellence President ED Munangagwa announced the date for the harmonised elections in Zimbabwe, as the 23rd August 2023. Consequently the deadline time and date for submission of candature for contesting the elections would be 21 June 2023 at 16:00 hours.

Political parties and prospective parliamentary candidates knew of these dates for months.

On the 21 June 2023, 12 CCC candidates submitted their papers to the Electoral Register at 16:01 or there after. This was clearly after the appointed deadline. The submissions were rightly disqualified on the basis that they were late submissions.
The applicants weee moving the judge to grant them a declaratur and consequential relief.

The premise of the application on the provisions ofthe Electoral Act /Chapter 2:131 (“the Act”). Their bone
of contention was that the commission which sat as the nomination court at the Bulawayo Magistrates Court, Tredgold Building on 21 June 2023 violated the law, in particular, s 46[7) & [87 ofthe Act when it accepted the Respondents’ nomination papers for election to members of
the National House of Assembly ofZimbabwe in the election which are to be held on 23 August 2023 after 1600 Hours and proceeded to sit to the early hours of 22 June 2023. They,
accordingly: seek a declaration to the effect that the decision of-the nomination court isnull and void and consequently, be set aside and that the names of the affected Respondents be excluded,
from the ballot papers which will be used in the elections to be held on 23 August 2023 of their respective constituencies.
Unsurprisingly but madly the late submitters sought to defend the decision by them to submit their papers late.
These individuals and their parties are playing hard and fast with the concept of Electorate fairness . For a start they are demanding the bending of the rules in their favour but where it suits their fancy they project themselves as advocates for astute compliance with rules and with fairness.
Justice Nokuthula Moyo delivered the judgement on behalf of Justice Ndlovu at the Bulawayo High Court. She only read the operative part, upholding an appeal by 12 Zanu PF activists who are registered voters.” The 12 separately filed appeals from each of Bulawayo’s 12 constituencies, and Justice Ndlovu had consolidated the appeals into one.
The Zanu PF activists argued that CCC candidates filed their nomination papers after the 4PM deadline on June 21. The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission had opposed the applications, insisting that the 12 had filed by 4PM.
Those challenging the decision of the Court have a big problem with understanding what lies behind the requirement of a deadline for submitting candidature. The underlying principle behind a deadline is democracy and fairness in Electoral processes. This Electoral fairness starts with the processes. The deadline marks the beginning of the election process which culminates at he ballot box. The whole train of events , from the submission of candidature papers to the voting is strictly regulated and must be marked by transparency and fairplay.

In this context relating a deadline, a deadline must be a deadline for all. An electoral process must not have as many deadlines as there are candidates submitting papers. It must be one known and one respected deadline.

It is naive to start calibrating that one minute after the deadline is not significant. There is no equal playing field if some are disciplined about deadlines and others are carvalier.

There is no need for the court to show that there is prejudice in accepting late submissions. A deadline is a deadline. The applicant must only show that the person or party was late.

Allowing the court to have a discretion is dangerous. It would cause concerns about transparency. It would also create uncertainty and disputation.
It would be a point of controversy to ascertain “how late is not late”.
If discretion is allowed in the admission of late papers, then we get to a slippery slop
It must be admitted or allowed throughout the election process. For axample those in charge of voting stations and ballot box would have discretion to decide which one is a sport paper. At that point there will be no rules, no certainty; the election would depend into a chaotic madness with dire consequences on security.

Elections are a serious national business. Those who want to be taken seriously must take elections seriously. It is hypocritical to play double standards by demanding strict application of rules against your opponent while demanding the flouting of the same when it comes to you.
Some respondents argued that there are in this matter material disputes of facts. The judge in his judgement raised critical questions which are;
“[a] Are those disputes incapable of resolution on the papers? and [b] Are those disputes material
to the resolution ofthe controversy between the parties, It must be noted that even if there is a material dispute of fact in an application matter, that fact alone is incapable of causing the
disposal of the matter when taken as a point in limine, because the Court is empowered to call
for evidence or convert the proceedings into a trial. This point is therefore in my view
prematurely raised, on the facts of this matter.
Due to that incapacity on the part of-the point taken, Iwill dismiss for want ofmerit.
The judge made a clear ruling after looking at the case on the round and it is that ruling we need to abide by.
” theallegations,
and the denials all taken together I come to the conclusion that the Respondents except one,
submitted their nomination papers in violation of the law.
We now know that a Police Officer collected the nomination papers from the candidates. The Applicants’ case is that the 1$ Respondent violated the law. I have also been moved by both
sides ofthe bar, to give Section 46 (7) and (8) of the Act the golden rule ofinterpretation.
The Nomination Court closed at 4 pm. Once it closed it was no longer sitting in open court and
by the time the respondents sat before him they were not doing so in open Court. The separation
of the papers from the Respondents through the medium of-the Police Officer-was unlawful. The statute says the candidate or his/her agent must be in court and ready to submit at 4 pm. It does
not say that the candidate’s papers alone must be in the courtroom.
The IS Respondent, therefore, violated the provisions of the electoral Act in that regard as he
also did close tomidnight when he adjourned to 2 June 2022.
The court ruled against both ZEC and the nominating court. This means that the issue was not only against CCC as what others are saying The judge declared that
“IT IS DECLARED THAT;
1.
That the decision of the 1st Respondent, sitting as a nomination court at Bulawayo on 21 and/or 2 June 2023 to accept the following Respondents’ nomination papers and candidature in the elections scheduled to be conducted on 23 August 2023 was in contravention of Section 46(7) & (8) of the Electoral Act [Chapter 2;131.
2.
That the decision of the 1st Respondent sitting as a Nomination Court at Bulawayo on 21 and/or 22 June 2023 to accept the following Respondents’ nomination papers and

21 HB 157/23

candidature in the elections scheduled to be conducted on 23 August 2023 is declared null and void and is hereby set aside.
ACCORDINGLY, TI SI ORDERED THAT;
.3
1st Respondent is prohibited from including the names of the following Respondents in the preparation of ballot papers to be used in the general elections scheduled to be conducted on 23 August 2023.
4. Respondents shall jointly and severally, pay the costs of suit.”

European Union In Impala Car Hiring Storm

By A Correspondent| The European Union Election Observer Mission to Zimbabwe (EUEOM) has hired over 65 cars from Impala Car Rental – a company that has been linked to the abduction and torture of several Zimbabwean citizens – this publication can exclusively reveal.

In July 2020, Tawanda Muchehiwa, a trainee journalist, was abducted by suspected state agents in Bulawayo and CCTV footage showed that the abductors used a vehicle hired from Impala Car Rental.

Muchehiwa was later found dumped near his home, severely injured.

In the wake of Muchehiwa’s abduction, the Zimbabwe National Students Union (ZINASU) staged a series of protests at Impala Car Rental offices, demanding answers about the company’s role in the abduction.

ZINASU president Takudzwa Ngadziore was subsequently arrested and detained for leading the protests.

Despite these allegations, the EUEOM has chosen to hire cars from Impala Car Rental in a development that has raised serious questions about the EUEOM’s commitment to human rights and its impartiality.

Some human rights activists who spoke to this publication criticized EU’s double standards with reference to the body’s stance on Russian gas and oil.

“It is deplorable that the European Union (EU) is sponsoring a company that is known for infringing on human rights.

“The EU has put a red tape on Russian oil and gas because of its invasion of Ukraine, but it seems that the EU is willing to shift its goal posts when it comes to Africa,” human rights activist Pride Mukono told this publication.

The cars are to be used by observers working across all of Zimbabwe’s 10 provinces

According to the mission’s Deputy Chief Observer, Dr. Beata Martin-Rozumiłowicz, “in the course of their duty, EU observers will meet local electoral officials, candidates and  representatives from political parties, as well as civil society and the media.

“They will be impartial and they will not interfere in the electoral process in the course of their work. They will only use firsthand and verified observation in their reporting.”

Efforts to get a comment from  Impala were fruitless.

Emmerson Mnangagwa Neighbour Goes Mental, Kills One

Mentally Ill Man Goes on Rampage, Fatally Strikes Redcliff Resident in Kwekwe City Centre

KWEKWE, Zimbabwe – A mentally ill man, identified as Rodrick Hove (21), sparked chaos in Kwekwe City Centre, leading to the tragic death of a 23-year-old man from Redcliff. The victim, whose name is yet to be released, succumbed to injuries sustained after being struck with a stone in the back of his head by Hove. The incident has left the community in shock and has reignited discussions about mental health care and safety in public spaces.

According to eyewitnesses, the 23-year-old man was walking with a friend along a pavement when they encountered Hove, who was known for his erratic behavior and past harassment of female members of the public. Without warning or apparent reason, Hove viciously attacked the unsuspecting victim, rendering him unconscious. He was rushed to Kwekwe General Hospital but tragically passed away shortly after admission.

The incident did not end there, as Hove continued his rampage, indiscriminately attacking two other people in the area. The assailant’s violent actions caused further injuries and panic among the locals.

Members of the public swiftly reacted to the situation, apprehending Hove before handing him over to the police. Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko of the Midlands Police confirmed that Hove was indeed taken into custody following the attacks.

This horrifying incident has shed light on the broader issue of mental health awareness and the lack of support for individuals dealing with mental illness in the community. Hove’s notoriety for harassing women in public places might have been an indication of an unaddressed mental health condition. However, the question arises as to why preventive measures were not taken earlier to avoid such a devastating outcome.

Advocates for mental health reform argue that incidents like this highlight the urgent need for improved access to mental health services and resources. In a society that stigmatizes mental illness, many individuals often suffer in silence without receiving the care they need. This tragedy emphasizes the importance of early detection, intervention, and treatment for those struggling with mental health issues.

Local authorities and community leaders are now facing the task of addressing both the immediate consequences of this incident and the underlying issues it has exposed. Calls for better mental health facilities and awareness programs have grown louder, urging the government to prioritize mental health care and support.

In the aftermath of this distressing event, the thoughts and sympathies of the community are with the family and friends of the deceased victim. As investigations into the incident continue, it is essential for society to come together and strive for a more compassionate approach to mental health issues, aiming to prevent such tragedies from occurring in the future.

Agrippa Bopela Masiyakurima Fails to Pay Children’s School Fees

Renowned businessman Agrippa Bopela Masiyakurima appeared before a Harare magistrate today, facing allegations of failing to pay school fees for his three minor children. The complainant in the case is Abigail Marongwe (43), a credit manager employed at CBZ.

According to the prosecution led by Mrs. Kudzanayi Mudzamiri, the incident occurred on February 28, 2023, at the Harare Civil Court. At that time, Masiyakurima was ordered to directly pay the school fees for his three children, who are all minors. However, he has allegedly defaulted on this payment for the current academic year.

The businessman is now accused of being in default of an amount totaling US$8,053 in school fees for the first term. As a consequence of his non-payment, a warrant of arrest was issued in his name.

Masiyakurima, known for his successful ventures in the business world, now finds himself entangled in a legal predicament that could significantly impact his reputation and standing within the community. Failure to fulfill his parental responsibility of paying his children’s school fees has led to a legal battle that could have far-reaching consequences.

As a credit manager at CBZ, Abigail Marongwe is expected to be well-versed in matters of financial responsibility, making the allegations against Masiyakurima all the more contentious. The court proceedings will undoubtedly delve into the reasons behind the non-payment and seek to determine if any mitigating circumstances exist.

The case serves as a reminder to all parents and guardians about the importance of fulfilling their obligations to provide for their children’s education and well-being. Failure to do so not only puts the children’s future at risk but also exposes the responsible party to legal repercussions.

Masiyakurima’s legal team will have the opportunity to present their defense and address the court’s concerns. The magistrate will then assess the evidence and arguments presented before making a decision on the matter.

For now, the businessman’s reputation hangs in the balance, and the outcome of the case will undoubtedly be closely monitored by both the public and the business community.

As the case unfolds, more details are expected to emerge, shedding light on the circumstances surrounding the alleged failure to pay school fees. The next court date is eagerly awaited to see how this legal matter progresses.

Herald Disappoints Kasukuwere Ahead Of Time

Govt Herald’s Presumptuous Announcement on Kasukuwere Court Case Violates Journalistic and Legal Principles

By Dorrothy Moyo | In a surprising and concerning turn of events, the government-owned Herald newspaper has been criticized for violating both journalistic ethics and legal principles by prematurely labeling Independent Presidential aspirant Saviour Kasukuwere a “loser” in his ongoing court case. The case, which is currently being appealed, challenges a High Court decision that effectively disqualified him from contesting the 2023 elections on the grounds that he is no longer a voter in Zimbabwe.

The Herald’s controversial announcement came amidst the anticipation of the Supreme Court’s ruling on Kasukuwere’s appeal. The appeal was brought forward to ensure a timely decision before the upcoming elections scheduled for August 23.

A three-judge panel, led by Justice Antonia Guvava and comprising Justices Chinembiri Bhunu and Felistas Chatukuta, heard submissions from both parties’ legal counsel and reserved judgment for the day of the ruling. Professor Welshman Ncube, Advocate Method Ndlovu, and Adv Reginald Mutero represented Mr. Kasukuwere, while Harare lawyer Mr. Lovedale Mangwana, who initially brought the suit against Kasukuwere, was represented by Adv Lewis Uriri and Adv Edley Mubaiwa.

It is essential to note that the decision of the High Court, which stated that Mr. Kasukuwere was no longer a voter and thus ineligible to contest any election, was temporarily stayed when he filed his appeal with the Supreme Court.

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has played a role in the proceedings, although not directly involved in the case itself. ZEC supported the application for an urgent appeal due to the impending deadline for printing the final ballot papers. The commission needs to know whether to include or exclude Mr. Kasukuwere from the ballot for the upcoming election.

In the urgent application filed by Mr. Mangwana, he requested the court’s inherent jurisdiction to expedite the appeal’s proceedings, citing its significant public and national importance, especially given that the election is just two months away.

Mr. Mangwana had previously secured a legal victory when the High Court found Kasukuwere’s nomination invalid due to his absence from Zimbabwe for more than 18 months, a disqualifying factor for voters. Kasukuwere’s claim of being in South Africa for medical treatment lacked substantiating evidence, such as a medical report, which the judge deemed insufficient to counter the absence from Zimbabwe.

The Herald’s rush to prematurely announce Mr. Kasukuwere as a “loser” in the ongoing court case is a clear violation of journalistic principles, including the duty to report facts accurately and impartially. Such presumptuous reporting undermines the integrity of the legal process and the principles of justice, potentially influencing public opinion and perceptions before the court reaches its final decision.

Media outlets, especially state-owned newspapers, have a responsibility to uphold the highest standards of journalism and impartiality. By jumping to conclusions before the court delivers its ruling, the Herald has failed in its duty to provide fair and unbiased reporting to its readers.

As the Supreme Court prepares to rule on the appeal, it is crucial for all media outlets, including the Herald, to exercise restraint and refrain from making prejudiced announcements that could undermine the credibility of the judiciary and the democratic process. Let us remember that the presumption of innocence and the right to a fair trial are fundamental principles that must be upheld at all times, regardless of a person’s political affiliations or public standing.

Mnangagwa Says Zim Dumping US Dollar for Russian Ruble After Getting 2nd Hand Chopper from Putin

By Farai D Hove | Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s recent statement expressing willingness to ditch the United States Dollar (USD) in favor of alternative forms of payment raises questions about his sincerity, particularly when made in the presence of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Mnangagwa gets 2nd hand Chopper from Putin

This move comes years after Zimbabwe had praised the USD and the US government for their support, leading to suspicions that the decision may be politically motivated. This news analysis article seeks to explore the potential reasons behind Mnangagwa’s stance, taking into account the geopolitical context and Zimbabwe’s relations with Russia and other nations.

The Shift in Zimbabwe’s View on the US Dollar

President Mnangagwa’s apparent change in attitude towards the US Dollar is a noteworthy development, especially considering the history of Zimbabwe’s reliance on the currency. In the past, the nation had openly admired the USD and accepted generous donations from the US government following the devastating Cyclone Odai. The sudden shift towards seeking alternative payment methods raises doubts about its genuineness, as it appears to coincide with growing global sentiment against the USD and the United States’ assertive foreign policies.

The Geopolitical Context

During the bilateral meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Russia-Africa Economic and Humanitarian Summit, President Mnangagwa voiced support for Russia’s approach to handling sanctions by pursuing autonomous solutions and alternative forms of payment. This statement comes at a time when various nations, including Russia, China, and India, are actively distancing themselves from the USD, citing their displeasure with the US’s unilateral actions in international relations.

By aligning with Russia’s stance against the USD, Zimbabwe positions itself closer to a group of countries seeking an alternative to the current international financial system, which they perceive as being dominated by the US. However, this alignment raises concerns about the extent to which Zimbabwe’s decision is genuinely motivated by principles of sovereignty and self-determination or whether it is a strategic move to gain favor and support from Russia and other like-minded nations.

Zimbabwe-Russia Relations

President Mnangagwa’s praise for Russia as a “steadfast friend” raises questions about the depth of the relationship between the two countries. The mutual admiration expressed during the bilateral meeting and the desire to strengthen economic cooperation may indicate a closer alliance than previously acknowledged.

Given Russia’s own conflicts with the United States and its eagerness to expand its sphere of influence, Zimbabwe’s decision to align with Russia on matters concerning the USD could be seen as a strategic move to foster stronger ties and potentially gain access to Russia’s economic resources and support in international forums like the United Nations Security Council.

President Mnangagwa’s recent announcement regarding Zimbabwe’s willingness to distance itself from the US Dollar in favor of alternative forms of payment raises suspicions about the sincerity of the decision. The timing of the statement, made in the presence of Russian President Vladimir Putin, and the ongoing geopolitical context surrounding global discontent with the USD add further complexity to the situation.

While the desire to assert Zimbabwe’s sovereignty and pursue autonomous solutions is commendable, the motivations behind the sudden change in stance warrant careful scrutiny. Whether driven by genuine principles or strategic calculations to foster closer relations with Russia and like-minded nations, the decision could have significant implications for Zimbabwe’s economic and political future.

As the situation unfolds, it will be crucial to monitor the actions taken by the Zimbabwean government to implement its proposed shift away from the USD. Transparency in policymaking and engagement with international partners will be essential in gauging the sincerity of Zimbabwe’s intentions and ensuring that the interests of its citizens are upheld.

Not Even One Reform

indepth...Wilbert Mukori

@EUObservers

By Wilbert Mukori | Comment | It is very sad that not even one of the reform recommendations from the 2018 EU report have been acted upon. Both Zanu PF and CCC have paid any attention to the report. The later because the party believes it has winning in rigged elections strategies snd so does not need reforms. As for Zanu PF why would the party implement even one token reform when it knows the opposition will participate no matter what and give the party legitimacy, guaranteed!

I do salute the EU and all the other observer teams for bothering to send observer teams and produce detailed reports when they know the chances are their reports will be ignored, again. Thank you.

Trust me the ordinary Zimbabweans are aspiring to the day the country will finally hold its first free, fair and credible elections. It is the country’s political leaders, from both sides of the political divide who are letting the nation down.

Mnangagwa Nullifies 2023 Elections-Chamisa

By- CCC leader Nelson Chamisa said the disqualification of his twelve MP candidates from contesting 2023 means President Emmerson Mnangagwa has nullified the polls.

The 12 Bulawayo aspiring MPS were Thursday disqualified for filing their nomination papers after the regulated time of 4 PM on 21 June.

CCC tweeted:

A few hours after the High Court’s decision to bar our 12 Bulawayo MPs, President Nelson Chamisa responded to this politically motivated ruling at a cluster rally in Kadoma. He warned that if the move stands, Mr. Mnangagwa would have nullified the elections.

Justice Bongani Ndlovu ruled Thursday:

Macheso Thrills White Fans

By-Sungura music maestro Alick Macheso Monday thrilled a multi-racial crowd at the ongoing ZimAfro T10 cricket games at Harare Sports Club.

Macheso thrilled the crowd with a non-stop two-hour performance, which started at 8pm.

Many white fans were caught up in the wave of ecstasy.

Macheso even begged for additional time on stage which, however, was not granted.
“I personally tried to ask for more hours of performance but the law said no.
“Tinokudai varungu hatigone nemi.
“It is better to arrive late than to be called late.”
Macheso struggled to leave the stage as fans mobbed him.
Orchestra Mberikwazvo publicist, Tich Makahamadze, hailed the fans for their support.
“We salute the organisers of these games for inviting us to come and perform.”

Court Blocks 12 Chamisa MPs From Contesting

By- A Bulawayo Judge has blocked twelve Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) MP candidates from contesting the 2023 elections for filing their nomination papers after the regulated time of 4 PM on 21 June.

Three others from other opposition parties are set to be struck off the ballot.

Mnangagwa Gets Helicopter From Russia

By-The government has announced that President Emmerson Mnangagwa has received a helicopter from Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Information Secretary Nick Mangwana, Information, made the announcement saying that the gift was presented to Mnangagwa during his attendance at the Second Russia-Africa Economic and Humanitarian Forum, held in St. Petersburg, Russian Federation, from 27th to 28th July 2023.

In a Twitter Mangwana said:

In this picture collage, you are looking at the Zim1 Helicopter gifted by President Putin to President @edmnangagwa. This bird will soon be gracing our skies.

There are doubts and suspicions about the nature of the helicopter “donation”, with some commentators expressing concerns that not enough information has been provided regarding the gift. Some have questioned the motives behind the donation.

Several commentators on Twitter suggested that the gift could be part of a larger exchange that may not have been disclosed to the public.

In May Zimbabwe received 18 helicopters from Russia worth $320 million. These helicopters will be deployed in the health and security sectors, as well as during natural disasters. The partnership is seen as an indication of the growing relations between Harare and Moscow, with additional helicopters set to arrive by 2025.

According to reports, the 18 helicopters were bought for $10 million each, even though they are believed to be secondhand and originally cost $2.5 million when new. Former Minister of Finance and CCC deputy president, Tendai Biti, has raised concerns that procurement procedures were not followed in the purchase of the helicopters.

ZEC Says 12 CCC’s Byo Candidates Filed Papers Way Before 4pm

By Davis Laque | Anyone is free to criticize CCC’s operational mechanism, particularly the so called: “strategic ambiguity.”

However, willfully sustaining the narrative that CCC’s 12 Bulawayo candidates showed up at nomination court after 4 pm, when ZEC itself disputes this, is stretching it.

Continuing to parade a narrative that perpetuates an apparent travesty of justice doesn’t make anyone wise.

ZEC, the body responsible for candidates registration, makes it clear in its court submissions that the 12 CCC MPs were at court, on time, as required by law.

To then continue to argue otherwise, for the purpose of getting even with opponents, or appearing as someone who wants “leadership accountability,” is self-serving.

CCC is being victimized using a supposed illegality, which ZEC explains and disputes.

This is scandalous.

There’s also a narrative suggesting that in hindsight, CCC could’ve avoided this scandal by announcing & registering its candidates “days earlier.”

Any supposed hindsight that fails to recognize the catastrophe CCC avoided, by this approach, is both misinformed & misinforming.

In fact, from the systematic attack on MDC-A to the manner in which ZanuPF still pursues CCC, it only serves to vindicate CCC’s approach.

It’s understandable how idealists would feel otherwise.
However, conventional politics has no room for survival in a military dictatorship.

It’s unimaginable to think that a court of law would be persuaded to take away the right of thousands in 12 constituencies.

How does a voter feel aggrieved by a person’s candidature?
How does a person’s candidature infringe on someone’s rights as a voter?

This is not law!

At this point, it’s impossible to think we are headed for something that resembles an election.

We’ve hundreds of electoral court cases; VR is a total crime scene; ZanuPF wants to win urban seats uncontested; the main opposition can’t even hold rallies.

It’s hilariously sad.

Yet if there’s something to learn from in-between 2018 and today, it is that ZanuPF must be fought head-on.

Boycotting will only kill alternative politics as we’ve know it

Given 5 more years, Mnangagwa will completely tear off the constitution & totally paralyze the state.

ZanuPF under Mnangagwa has total disregard for the rule of law & the rights of dissenting voices.

This desperation to not be contested exposes their fears.

Succumbing to their desperation & scheming in the hope that we can reboot towards 2028 is misguided.

We must fight on.

If I could dare make a prediction, I would say CCC will eventually win the case.

Part of ZanuPF’s intention may be to immobilize candidates & leave opp voters disillusioned.

In reaction, CCC must intensify political mobilization
A political response may soon be due

enkosi!

Secures $60 Million Investment for State-of-the-Art Cement Plant

Diversified local company, Kwandisa Group, has secured partners willing to invest US$60 million into a cement plant in Zimbabwe’s Midlands Province area to exploit a supply gap amid soaring demand.

The deal, now subject to regulatory approval, was concluded earlier this month with various financing models already under consideration.

Kwandisa is a local business company that started in the 1990s and has grown to become a diversified group with interests in various sectors, including agriculture, retail and manufacturing.

The business, which already has interests in construction, has over the years sold huge volumes of cement imported, predominantly from Zambia, as local supply struggled to meet growing demand.

Kwandisa Group managing director Clayton Musasiwa could not be drawn to reveal finer details due to the delicate stage of the deal, but confirmed the project saying at least 500 full-time jobs would be created in the first phase while 300 more would be created in the second phase

“We have been in the market for more than a year now and finally we are at a stage where everything is set and ready for conclusion. Unfortunately, I cannot give you more details as we are bound by non-disclosure agreements,” he said.

“The past year has been very busy for us with both local and foreign investors interested in the cement venture. I am glad we have found a suitor and now we must deliver,” he added.

Demand for cement is expected to remain strong driven by massive infrastructure development projects at Government, corporate and individual levels. Massive housing projects across the country are being implemented as cities and towns continue to expand.

The Government, on the other hand, has also lined up a solid pipeline of infrastructure projects across the country, with some already under implementation, which is driving demand for cement, creating scope for investments into the sector.

Mr Musasiwa said the group also plans towards doubling double capacity at its maize milling operation, Adult Milling Company, by the end of 2023.

Meanwhile, as part of their corporate social responsibility, Kwandisa Group has been supporting more than 1 000 families in Mashonaland Central with basic needs provisions, particularly food.

“For more than two decades, Kwandisa Group has been unwavering in our commitment to serve disadvantaged households in Mashonaland Central Province and help underprivileged families from the Bindura area by providing them with maize-meal from its subsidiary Adult Milling Company.

This programme feeds over a 1 000 families per annum,” said the group in its corporate social responsibility report.

“Kwandisa believes success will be amplified as we adopt and implement policies that prioritise the well-being of people in our community, our employees and their families.

“We also believe that sound, sustainable business practices are crucial to building trust and enhancing our reputation,” the group said.

CCC Candidates For Bulawayo Barred From Participating In August 23 Elections

By A Correspondent| High Court judge Justice Nokuthula Moyo has ruled against the participation of 12 Citizens Coalition for Change parliamentary candidates in the August 23 elections.

This followed an application by Zanu PF activists who claimed the 12 CCC candidates and others from smaller parties, filed their nomination papers out of time on June 21.

Posting on Twitter, CCC Spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere said: “We’ve received a report that our @CCCZimbabwe candidates in Bulawayo have been barred from contesting.”

Mahere added that they will appeal against the ruling: “Citizens have the right to nominate candidates within the ambit of the law and to be represented by MPs that they choose in a free and fair election.”

SABC Says Zimbabweans Are Coming Back Home To Vote

Some Zimbabwean nationals who live and ply their trade in South Africa have expressed willingness to return to their home country to participate in its economic growth and voting in the upcoming elections.

Zimbabwe heads to the polls on August 23rd. The country’s National Statistics Agency last week announced that the country’s gross domestic product grew by 6.2% during the first quarter of 2023.

A Zimbabwean national, Kripo Chinyowa, says there is a glimmer of hope for the country’s economy getting back on its feet. Chiyowa says he’s planning to extend his graphic design business back home and is looking forward to the elections next month.

“We have seen a lot of change I have been here at the border of Musina which is near my country so I see the difference I have here for the past seven years. So I am seeing a lot of hope they are people who come here saying that there is a lot happening and doing business that side so there us a lot happening we have done a lot of ground work that side and we have registered the company there as way of planning to go back.”

Previous elections in the country have been marked by anomalies, prompting observers to question the transparency of the voting process. Addressing diplomats and election observer missions on Monday, Zimbabwean government officials sought to assure the international community of the country’s preparedness for the crucial election.

However, concerns surrounding the credibility of the polls have emerged, with opposition parties and observers raising significant issues.

Teen Pregnancies Haunt Zim

By A Correspondent- Nearly 350 000 girls between the ages of 10 and 19 fell pregnant between 2019 and 2022 in Zimbabwe.

This was said by United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Zimbabwe’s adolescent sexual health reproductive specialist Blessing Nyagumbo on Tuesday.

Addressing journalists, Nyagumbo said the country recorded a sharp increase in pregnancies among girls and teenagers in the past three years. She said, as quoted by ZimLive:

Between 2019 and 2022, there were about 1.7 million pregnancies recorded in Zimbabwe and out of that, 21 percent happened amongst adolescents that are between the ages of 10 to 19 years and that translates to around 350 000 teenage pregnancies.

That tells you how devastating the rate of teenage pregnancies in Zimbabwe is.

According to statistics, in 2018, about 3 000 girls dropped out because of pregnancy.

In 2019, the number remained relatively steady, but in 2020, the number rose to 4 770.

In 2021, the number rose again as about 5 000 learners got pregnant in that year’s first two months.

Nyagumbo said it is imperative to take sexual reproductive health education to schools as raising awareness will reduce cases of sexual exploitation of minors. She said:

One of the preventing strategic interventions that we support as UNFPA is strengthening the delivery of sex education in schools.

Teenage pregnancies and child marriages skyrocketed during the COVID-19 pandemic when schools were closed for an extended period of time.

“Do Not Vent Your Frustrations on ZBC” CCC Told

We publish below a response to claims by Citizens Coalition for Change Spokesperson Ms Fadzai Mahere to the effect that ZBC reporting is unconstitutional and in favour of ZANU PF

ZBC Election Coverage

The Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation notes with concern a statement released by the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) spokesperson Ms Fadzai Mahere.

The statement dated 25 July 2023 has serious allegations to the effect that the ZBC in particular has failed to comply with the law in the coverage of the 2023 General election.

The ZBC is alive to the fact that it is a National Broadcaster and its elections coverage is guided by the laws of the land in this case, The Electoral Act (Chapter 2:13) and the Constitution of Zimbabwe Amendment number 20 of 2013 of particular note Section 61.

The ZBC appreciates that according to the Electoral Act, the election season runs from the day of the Proclamation of the election dates until the day of the inauguration of the winner of the Presidential election.

In this case, our election season began on Wednesday the 31st of May 2023 and will end on the day of the inauguration of the Presidential winner.

Guided by the Electoral Act that requires the National Broadcaster to ‘equitably’ distribute free airtime to contesting political parties, on the Proclamation Day, the ZBC had a news story aired on the Main News (8pm television) and other bulletins including all the six radio stations under the ZBC stable namely, Radio Zimbabwe, National FM, Power FM, Classic 263, Khulumani FM and Central Radio.

The story featured the three main political parties at that stage namely CCC, MDC A and ZANU PF. From the CCC it was Fadzai Mahere who spoke on behalf of her party. (ZBC Main News bulletins are a matter of public record and can be viewed on ZBC News Online stream on Facebook as the bulletins are streamed).

On the day of the nomination Court i.e Wednesday the 21st of June, ZBC News covered and aired a story that featured CCC President Mr. Nelson Chamisa commenting about the nomination process. The following day 22 June, again Mr. Chamisa was on the news commenting about double candidates.

Current Affairs

The ZBC has availed three election programmes for political parties namely, The Candidate, The Manifesto and Constituency Indaba. All Presidential candidates are free to present their Manifestos and also be interviewed on “The Candidate”. Aspiring legislators can also be featured on The Constituency Indaba though regrettably some have refused to take part.

Recording of these programmes is underway while others have already been aired. There are 11 Presidential candidates and possibly 12 and the National Broadcaster cannot change this schedule by saying CCC President must be the first or second.

Every candidate has the same rights and when the dates according to the schedule come, indeed Mr. Nelson Chamisa will be invited to present his Manifesto and be featured on ‘The Candidate’.

All these programmes are on television and Zbc’s six radio stations.

News Reports

Guided by the laws, Zbc News reporters across the country have put in deliberate efforts to speak to all contesting candidates. Some have agreed while others have refused. Among the CCC candidates those who agreed and were covered include Mr. Febion Munyaradzi Kufahakutizwi (Mabvuku National Assembly) on 5 July 2023, Mr. Jastone Mazhale (Gwanda-Tshitaudze), Lynette Karenyi (Chikanga) with stories being aired on 13 July 2023. Nicola Watson for Bulawayo South was covered on 15 July 2023.

The CCC Official launch rally in Gweru on the 16th of July was also covered and flighted by ZBC on the same day with the party President Mr. Nelson Chamisa being featured. The following day 17 July 2023, Mr. Chamisa was also featured speaking about the land reform, a story aired on all ZBC news bulletins. On 19 July 2023, Party spokesperson Ms Fadzai Mahere was featured commenting on double candidates.

Other CCC officials featured on the ZBC plattforms also include Mr. Vusa Moyo (Hwange West), Mr. Clifford Hlatshwayo (Chipinge South), Mr. Josiah Makombe (Gweru Urban), Ropafadzo Makumire (Chiredzi Central), Mathew Mlambo (Chipinge East) among others.

However the following CCC candidates refused to speak to ZBC: Gift Ostallos (12 June 2023), Discent Collins-Bajila (Emakhandeni/Luveve), Obert Manduna (Nketa), Chidaushe Emmanuel (Chivi North), Makotose Peter Alexios (Chivi Central), Patrick Mugwambi (Shamva South), Mavis Maringisanwa (Shamva North), Patrick Dube (Gwanda South), Desire Nkala (Gwanda North), Chinembiri Muchengeti (Chikomba East), Emmanuel Punungwe (Chikomba West), Douglas Gumbo (Chiredzi South), Petias Manyika (Mt Darwin East) and Lovemore Dhlumo (Chipinge Central) among others.

The ZBC is also in possession of some audio recordings with the candidates refusing to speak to our news crews. Mr. Petias Manyika (CCC candidate for Mt Darwin East told the ZBC News that their party has made a decision not to speak with the ZBC.

This statement has however not stopped the ZBC from seeking interviews from other CCC candidates. The ZBC as a National Broadcaster respects the journalistic ethics such as fairness, accuracy, balance, objectivity and confidentiality of sources but also respects the rights of individuals not to speak to the media.

Editorial independence

It is also important to note that the ZBC is independent ad has a competent editorial team that understands what to publish and how to publish it. Even an election season doesn’t take away this editorial independence that is provided for by the Constitution of Zimbabwe Section 61 (4) ‘All state-owned media of communication are:
(a) free to determine the editorial content of their broadcasts or other communications’ The Supreme law of the land thus gives the ZBC editorial independence to decide what and how to publish though. Section 61 (5) of the Constitution also gives ZBC the basis of its editorial policy.

Commercial Content

According to the law, ZBC is mandated with offering political parties a discount of 30 percent during prime time. Other political parties have submitted their advertisements and to date the National Broadcaster is yet to receive any such from the CCC.

No right is absolute

All content including the commercial content is subject to editorial scrutiny as provided by the law in section 61 of the constitution of Zimbabwe.
61(5) ‘Freedom of expression and freedom of the media excludes- (a) Incitement to violence (b) Advocacy of hatred or hate speech (c) Malicious injury to a person’s reputation or dignity (d) Malicious unwarranted breach of a person’s right to privacy.

As the Constitution provides, we therefore urge political players not to use hate speech, misinformation among others as this cannot be broadcast on ZBC platforms.

While it is understood that elections are an emotive subject and that the campaign is hot and might cause frustrations, it is however unfair to vent these frustrations on the ZBC.

Reprieve for Mutoko Communities

By A Correspondent- A Zimbabwean court has stopped Labenmon Investments, a Chinese mining company, from conducting illegal mining operations on ancestral land belonging to some Mutoko villagers in Mashonaland East province, following an outcry by the dwellers.

The villagers led by George Makanjera and Judgmore Chibanda filed an urgent chamber application on 30 June 2023 at Mutoko Magistrates Court, seeking an order to interdict the Chinese mining company from prospecting, conducting exploration or any form of mining activity in four villages in Mutoko namely Moyosvi, Chibanda, Gumbeze and Kadore.

The villagers, who were represented by Tinashe Chinopfukutwa and Kelvin Kabaya of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights, also asked the court to order Labenmon Investments to remove some pegs which it had installed in the four villages within 24 hours.

Apart from Labenmon Investments, the villagers also listed Mines and Mining Development Minister Hon. Winston Chitando, Environmental Management Agency and Zimbabwe Investment and Development Agency as respondents.

The villagers resorted to taking legal action against Labenmon Investments after the Chinese mining company installed some pegs on about 150 hectares of land covering grazing pastures, cultivation and places of traditional and cultural significance in the four villages.

At one time, the mining company was fined a beast of cattle by a local traditional leader for visiting and pegging the sacred areas without notifying him or obtaining his approval.

Despite not holding the required paperwork, Labenmon Investments proceeded to bulldoze its way into the area to begin operations that were threatening the livelihoods of dozens of families.

Chinopfukutwa and Kabaya protested in court that some Labenmon Investments employees had in May 2023 camped on the villagers’ land and had told them that they wanted to drill boreholes and inspect their pegs as they had invested in purchasing the mining claims to mine in the villages.

However, the villagers challenged them to produce documentation to prove their claims and this exposed the illegalities behind the mining scheme as the company’s representatives produced a copy of a certificate of registration after transfer of mining claims in respect of claims named Mudzonga located some 3.5 kilometres east of Bandamakara School, a Zimbabwe Investment Development Agency (ZIDA) licence issued on 27 February 2023 and a map for the mining project in Mudzonga.

They also produced correspondence from the Environmental Management Agency dated 13 May 2023, in which the company was advised to carry out a full Environmental Impact Assessment.

Mutoko Senior Magistrate Terrence Mashaire brought relief to the Mutoko villagers after ordering Labenmon Investments not to prospect, conduct exploration or any form of mining activity in the entirety of Moyosvi, Chibanda, Gumbeze and Kadore villages without following due process and the law.

Magistrate Mashaire ordered Labenmon Investments to remove its pegs installed around Moyosvi, Chibanda, Gumbeze and Kadore villages within 24 hours and also ruled that in the event that the Chinese mining company does not comply with his order of removing pegs in the villagers’ land, the Messenger of Court would be authorised to remove the pegs from their fields.

Magistrate Mashaire noted that the villagers took action upon realising that their environment was being threatened and said they have a constitutional right to enjoy use of their property and defend it against invasion as Labenmon Investments’ presence on their land is inconsistent with the law.

The Magistrate ruled that the Chinese mining company had not been certified or authorised to carry out mining operations in the four villages and said for Labenmon Investments to want to carry out mining activities without obtaining the relevant approvals and without consulting the villagers would be a violation of Zimbabwean laws governing the protection of the environment together with people residing in the four villages.

ED Drills 10 Boreholes for Mbare

By A Correspondent- Residents of Mbare have applauded the Government for prioritising them in the ongoing Presidential Borehole Drilling Scheme, which saw the drilling and installation of 10 more boreholes with solar systems.

This follows successive years of failure by opposition led councils to provide basic services such as potable water to urban dwellers, opening the doors to the spread of diseases like cholera.

President Mnangagwa has come to the rescue of Mbare residents that have been reeling with perennial water challenges by directing the drilling of 10 more boreholes as Government paces up efforts to end water woes in the capital city.

The project, which has taken a revolutionary turn, will see water from boreholes being fed into household taps, shifting from the traditional hand pump boreholes.

In separate interviews, residents who spoke to The Herald hailed President Mnangagwa for the timely intervention saying they had been going for weeks without clean water.

“We would even go up to five days without water, and the worst part is that we had few boreholes, so fights would erupt as people jostled to receive at least a bucket of water,” Ms Tatenda Mandere a resident of Mbare said.

“Peace has finally been restored, and I believe that going forward, it will be extremely uncommon to witness arguments over buckets of water.”

Another resident, Mr Arnold Takavarasha said the move was long overdue.

“This is definitely a positive development and the government ought to have contributed sooner rather than later given that opposition leaders often take us for granted.”

Mbare Zanu-PF aspiring councillor for ward 3, Cde Simbarashe Chanachimwe said people should vote out inept opposition legislators and councillors who have been failing to deliver services for the past years.

“The CCC-led council has failed and it is clear that they have nothing to offer so it is high time that we vote for the people’s party Zanu-PF.

“Our President gave us 10 boreholes as part of the ongoing Presidential borehole drilling scheme in line with vision 2030.

“We are happy that through the visionary leadership of President Mnangagwa, people will be able to access clean and safe water.”

Zanu-PF Mbare Constituency aspiring candidate Martin Matinyanya described the drilling of boreholes as a huge development.

“Our President has done very well , we are very happy that the types of boreholes are different from conventional hand pump boreholes, people will get water straight from the taps.

“We see this as a huge development, water is very important, everyone is happy and anytime of the day you can get water because the system uses solar energy.”

As a community, Cde Matinyanya said they were going to protect the property jealously against any vandalism.

“Everyone will protect these solar panels that have been put, and if you look closely, the boreholes have been strategically positioned where security is assured, such as next to car parks.”

ED Flies To Russia

PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa has left for St Petersburg, Russia where he is set to attend the second Russia-Africa Economic and Humanitarian Forum.

EU EOM Ready To Observe “Hard to Reach Areas”

By A Correspondent- The European Union (EU) says it will deploy more than 150 observers to Zimbabwe’s August 23 elections.

Brussels revealed this yesterday as it deployed the first batch of 46 observers to the country’s 10 provinces ahead of the harmonised polls.

The EU election observer mission in Zimbabwe said its team was ready to cover the “hard-to-reach areas” to impartially assess the plebiscite’s credibility, freeness and fairness.

Addressing the observers in the capital yesterday before their deployment, EU mission deputy chief observer Beata Martin Rozumitowicz urged the observers to be independent and impartial in doing their work.

Rozumitowicz told journalists at the same venue that they are maintaining a non-interference policy in the electoral process.

“We are deploying long-term observers to all 10 provinces of the country,” she said.

“They will go throughout the country, not just in Harare, but all the way down to the village level and they will go to the hard-to-reach areas.

“In the course of their duty, EU observers will meet local electoral officials, candidates and representatives from political parties, as well as civil society and media.

“They will be impartial and they will not interfere in the electoral process in the course of their work.

“They will only use first-hand and verified observation in their reporting.”

The EU team is observing the elections for the second time since 2018.

“On the election day, the mission will be supplemented across the country by 44 short-term observers, a delegation from the European Parliament and a number of locally-recruited short-term observers, drawn from the diplomatic community. This will bring the number of European observers on polling day to over 150 from 27 EU member States as well as Canada, Norway and Switzerland,” the EU said in an statement released earlier yesterday.

A core team of 11 analysts from the EU arrived in Harare on July 8.

A final report, which will include a set of recommendations for future electoral processes, will be released at the completion of the observer mission.

After the 2018 elections, the EU team made 23 recommendations, including 10 priority ones aimed at aligning the Electoral Act with the country’s Constitution, strengthening the independence of the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission and improving information-sharing by the commission throughout the electoral process.

Other recommendations included escalating voter registration as well as the transparency, verifiability and integrity of the results management process and mitigation of abuse of State resources, among others.

In its follow-up mission to Zimbabwe last year, Elmar Brok, a former member of the EU Parliament and chief observer of the EU election observer mission to the 2018 general elections, said most recommendations were  ignored.

Rozumitowicz said the findings of the long-term observers would be analysed by its core team in the country.

“The chief observer of the EU election observer mission, Fabio Massimo Castaldo, will present the initial findings and conclusions of the mission two days after the elections. The mission will remain in Zimbabwe to observe the post-electoral environment and follow possible appeals and complaints,” the EU said.

Zanu-PF spokesperson Christopher Mutsvangwa said the observers were welcome, adding that they should stick to their mandate.

“We are welcoming our observers,”  Mutsvangwa said.

“We don’t expect them to be monitors, but to be observers.”

Zimbabwe’s elections have been marred by violence, voter intimidation and allegations of rigging, leading to disputed results

Mnangagwa Dragged To Court

By-Government workers have dragged to High Court President Emmerson Mnangagwa, the Public Service Commission and other officials over the authority’s penchant for unilaterally reviewing public workers’ salaries.

According to the NewsHawks, the civil servants argue that the current setup where the Public Service and Social Welfare Minister single-handedly decides how much they should earn is unconstitutional.
They are therefore seeking a ruling that declares the current set-up unconstitutional and a declaratory order that forces collective bargaining involving all civil servants’ unions on their salaries and allowances.
The first applicant in the latest court application is the Zimbabwe Teachers’ Union (ZIMTA) led by its chief executive officer Sifiso Ndlovu.
The other applicants are the Civil Service Employees’ Association (CSEA) representing the rest of public service workers with a membership of 2 600 civil servants; Progressive Teachers’ Union of Zimbabwe (PTUZ) Educators’ Union of Zimbabwe (EUZ) and the Amalgamated Rural Teachers’ Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ).
The Public Service Commission is cited as the first respondent and Mnangagwa as the second respondent. The application reads in part:
The 2nd Respondent is the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe cited herein in the official capacity as the person responsible for the approval of salaries, allowances and other benefits of members of the Public Service as may be fixed by the 1st Respondent in terms of section 2003(4) of the Constitution.
Other respondents cited are Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube, Public Service Minister Paul Mavima and Justice Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi.
Attorney-General Prince Machaya is also cited as a respondent because he is the person who is the principal legal adviser to the government, responsible for drafting legislation on behalf of the government as well as representing the government in civil and constitutional matters.
The trade unions are being represented by the law firm of former Highfield MP and trade unionist Munyaradzi Gwisai, Matika and Gwisai Attorneys.
The matter under case number 8261/22 at the High Court of Zimbabwe, was set down to be heard on 21 September by Justice Lucy Mungwari.

CCC Blasts Subjective ZBC

Recording of these programmes is underway while
others have already been aired. There are 11 Presidential candidates and possibly 12 and the National Broadcaster cannot change this schedule by saying CCC President must be the first or second. Every candidate has the same rights and when the dates according to the schedule come, indeed Mr. Nelson Chamisa will be invited to present his Manifesto and be featured on ‘The Candidate’

Commercial Content

According to the law, ZBC is mandated with offering political parties a discount of 30 percent during prime time. Other political parties have submitted their advertisements and to date the National Broadcaster is yet to receive any such from the CCC.

61(5) ‘Freedom of expression and freedom of the media excludes- (a) Incitement to violence (b) Advocacy of hatred or hate speech (c) Malicious injury to a person’s reputation or dignity (d) Malicious unwarranted breach of a person’s right to privacy

Married Woman Killed By Lover

Chiredzi Man Sentenced to 20 Years in Jail for Murdering Married Lover

In a shocking turn of events, a Chiredzi man has been sentenced to an effective 20 years in prison for the murder of his married lover. High Court Judge Justice Garainesu Mawadze delivered the verdict on Friday, marking the end of a trial that has captivated the nation.

The convicted man, Alex Muchocha (47) of Farm 28, Hippo Valley in Chiredzi, was found guilty of killing Mercy Mukowa, a young woman aged between 18-21, on November 23, 2021, at Chiredzi Dumpsite. The brutal act saw Mercy stabbed multiple times, with fatal wounds inflicted on her thighs and stomach, leading to her death at the scene.

What has left many puzzled is how Mercy managed to maintain relationships with both Muchocha and her husband, Peter Majoka (32), who resides separately at shacks in Chiredzi Dumpsite, without raising suspicions of infidelity.

During the trial, Isabel Moyo of Mutendi, Mudisi, and Shumba represented Muchocha on a pro-deo basis. He pleaded for culpable homicide, claiming that he had no intention of killing Mercy. His defense argued that he was outraged after discovering that Mercy had stolen US$600 and a mobile phone and spent the money with her husband, Majoka.

However, Justice Mawadze dismissed Muchocha’s plea, stating that he was not a credible witness. The judge highlighted inconsistencies in Muchocha’s testimony, pointing out that Mercy lived with Majoka and only spent a few days with Muchocha.

Moreover, it was revealed that Muchocha used force to stab Mercy after the knife’s blade separated from the handle, further indicating his violent intentions. Additionally, Muchocha failed to substantiate his claim that Mercy was involved with multiple men.

During the proceedings, Muchocha did not show remorse for his actions and instead blamed Mercy for her adultery, which further incensed him. Majoka testified in court, revealing that Muchocha had once introduced himself as Mercy’s uncle during a previous encounter, suggesting that he was aware of their relationship.

Justice Mawadze emphasized that a defense of provocation was not applicable in this case and asserted that Muchocha had intended to kill Mercy. As a result, he was convicted of murder with actual intent. The judge made it clear that falling in love or emotions should not warrant a death penalty.

The tragic incident occurred when Muchocha encountered Mercy and Majoka with another individual, Chipo Msipa, at Chiredzi Dumpsite. Armed with an okapi knife, Muchocha approached them cautiously. Majoka, sensing danger, fled to alert other residents of the dumpsite, leaving Mercy vulnerable.

Tragically, Mercy could not escape, and Muchocha attacked her with a series of fatal stabbings. The following day, police apprehended Muchocha, leading to the trial that ultimately resulted in his conviction.

The sentencing of Alex Muchocha has brought a sense of closure to the victim’s family and the community, but it has also raised awareness of the importance of addressing domestic and relationship issues in a non-violent manner. The case serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of resorting to violence to resolve conflicts and disputes.- Agencies

Armed Robbers Raid Moleli High School

Zvimba- In a brazen and audacious attack, nine armed robbers stormed Moleli High School in Zvimba on Sunday, leaving a trail of destruction and theft in their wake. The incident occurred at approximately 6 pm when the assailants targeted the school premises, making off with a substantial amount of cash and valuable items.

According to National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, the gang, equipped with pistols and iron bars, launched their assault by attacking two security guards. After overpowering the guards, the robbers proceeded to ransack the school, looting everything in their path.

The stolen loot includes an astonishing sum of US$2,001 and $26,920 in cash, 15 laptops, 29 cellphones, a two-plate stove, a photo-printer, and airtime vouchers worth US$57. The daring robbery has sparked outrage among local authorities and the community, prompting an urgent and intensive manhunt for the criminals.

Assistant Commissioner Nyathi urged anyone with relevant information to come forward and report it to the nearest police station. The success of the investigation relies heavily on the cooperation and vigilance of the public in bringing these dangerous criminals to justice.

Regrettably, this incident is not an isolated occurrence. Schools have increasingly become targets for armed robberies, where criminals seize large sums of money and valuable property. Just a few months ago in May, a private college in Glen View, Harare, fell victim to a similar attack by four armed robbers. They made off with electrical appliances and an undisclosed amount of cash, terrorizing the institution’s staff and students in the process.

In another shocking incident in March 2021, eight armed robbers struck Gateway High School in Harare, deploying explosives to force open a safe containing more than US$250,000 in cash. The attack occurred around midnight, and the criminals left no stone unturned to achieve their malicious intentions.

The severity of these crimes has prompted the deployment of a specialized team of detectives from CID Homicide, responsible for investigating heinous and violent offenses. Their presence at the Gateway High School crime scene demonstrated the authorities’ commitment to pursuing justice and apprehending those responsible for such audacious criminal acts.

As the manhunt for the nine armed robbers in the recent Moleli High School incident intensifies, the entire community is urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities. It is vital for everyone to work together in ensuring the safety and security of schools and institutions that serve as the foundation of education and development for the youth.

The authorities and law enforcement agencies are determined to bring these criminals to justice and restore a sense of safety and peace within the community. Citizens are encouraged to cooperate fully with the ongoing investigations, as any piece of information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, could be crucial in solving this crime and preventing similar incidents in the future.

As this story unfolds, stay tuned to reliable news sources for further updates on the manhunt and the progress of the investigation. The apprehension of the armed robbers responsible for this heinous act will serve as a crucial step in safeguarding the sanctity of educational institutions and the well-being of the students and staff within them.-state media

ZEC Shifts Chegutu Election

Gutu West Constituency Election Postponed Following Candidate’s Tragic Death

HARARE, ZIMBABWE – In a significant development, the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has made the decision to postpone the Gutu West constituency election that was scheduled to be held simultaneously with the upcoming August 23, 2023, harmonized polls. This decision came after the unfortunate death of one of the candidates, Mr. Christopher Mutonhori Rwodzi, who lost his life in a tragic road accident last month, shortly after the nominations for the elections had closed.

According to the Electoral Act, it is standard procedure for ZEC to defer a constituency election in the unfortunate event of a candidate’s death between the nomination and the polling day. This provision is put in place to allow those who had nominated the deceased candidate an opportunity to find a suitable alternative. Consequently, the election for Gutu West Constituency will now be converted into a by-election.

The announcement of the election’s termination was made by Mr. Utloile Silaigwana, the Chief Elections Officer of ZEC, in a notice published in the Government Gazette. The notice stated that a nomination court would be called upon to receive fresh nominations of candidates for the election of a member of Parliament for Gutu West Constituency. The date for the nomination court to convene will be advised by the Commission in due course.

It’s important to note that the other candidates who had already been duly nominated to contest for the Gutu West Constituency, including Cde John Paradza from Zanu PF and Mr. Ephraim Murudu of CCC, do not require fresh nominations. However, they, or their representatives, are required to formally notify the constituency elections officer in writing if they intend to remain candidates in the by-election.

Opinions among legal experts about the termination of the election differed. One lawyer remarked that ZEC had acted within the electoral legal framework by postponing the elections, thereby preserving the nominations of the other candidates. On the other hand, another lawyer from Kwekwe, Mr. Valentine Mutatu, argued that the postponement might have been unnecessary since the deceased candidate was an independent. In his view, only the death of a candidate belonging to a political party should trigger a delay, allowing the party to nominate a replacement.

In a separate but related matter, ZEC has also officially gazetted the withdrawal of three independent candidates from the forthcoming harmonized elections. The candidates who withdrew their nominations are Ms. Juliet Chirenje of Goromonzi South Constituency, Ndinyarei Mupukuta from Maramba Pfungwe Constituency, and Owen Munatsi.

As Zimbabwe awaits the new date for the Gutu West by-election and prepares for the forthcoming harmonized polls, the nation’s attention will be on the electoral process and the candidates vying for various positions in the country’s governance.

The news of the candidate’s untimely death has elicited widespread condolences, and his memory will undoubtedly be on the minds of voters as they head to the polls in the near future.- state media

Military Coup As President Of Niger Toppled

Coup Reported in Niger as Soldiers Successfully Topple President Bazoum.

Toppled…Mohamed Bazoum

In a shocking turn of events, Niger’s President Mohamed Bazoum has been removed from power in a reported coup d’état led by a group of soldiers. The news agencies AFP and Reuters have both cited a statement made on national television by Colonel-Major Amadou Abdramane and nine other uniformed soldiers, announcing the successful toppling of the president.

“We, the defence and security forces… have decided to put an end to the regime” of President Bazoum, declared Colonel-Major Amadou Abdramane, as he stood firmly with his fellow soldiers during the address. The soldiers further stated that the country’s borders had been closed, and a nationwide curfew was imposed.

The coup attempt took a significant turn earlier in the day when the group of soldiers blocked off the presidential palace in the capital city, Niamey. According to reports, a contingent of the presidential guard attempted to detain President Mohamed Bazoum inside his residence.

In response to the unfolding events in Niger, the West African ECOWAS group of countries, currently chaired by Nigeria, issued a communique expressing “shock and consternation” at the attempted coup. The ECOWAS statement condemned the use of force to seize power and called for the immediate and unconditional release of the democratically elected President of the Republic.

The communique, signed by Nigerian President Bola Tinubu, also warned that ECOWAS and the international community would hold all those involved in the coup responsible for the safety and security of President Bazoum, his family, members of the government, and the general public.

The European Union’s top diplomat, Josep Borrell, also voiced concern over the unfolding events in Niamey. He expressed the EU’s condemnation of any attempts to destabilize democracy and threaten Niger’s stability. The EU pledged its support to ECOWAS’ response to the situation, showing a united front against the attempted coup.

As the situation continues to develop, the international community closely monitors the events in Niger, urging for a peaceful resolution and the swift restoration of democratic governance. The people of Niger remain on edge, awaiting further updates and hoping for a peaceful resolution to the crisis that has engulfed their nation.

Mavaza: Zimbabwe Strangled and Brutalised by CCC and its Colonial Masters

By Dr Masimba Mavaza | They moan about the rigging of elections while they rig elections all the time.
Zimbabwe is braced for watershed elections, or maybe for some a revolutionary shift on 23 August. Such is the polarity in the discourse that opposing views are pinning their hopes on diametrically conflicting arguments about the reasons behind their propositions and optimism. It is easy to understand the cause of the divers arguments and drivers for the political agendas.

It goes without saying that Zimbabwe under the second republic is none violent during electioneering and moreso, is tolerant to discourse across the political divide. Anyone who is sober minded applauds the multiparty democracy at play in independent Zimbabwe which a genuine transformation from the hegemony of the colonial past that clearly placed the black majority on the mercy of the superior minority white race. It is important at this juncture to point at what the system meant, localised slavery. The colonial master simply carried on slavery in the countries of the black majority. That is the system that saw the revolutionary war waged to remove that evil system. The democratic process for a nation is a journey that necessitates respecting the history and sacrifices of the heroes of the nation. Our country remains forever indebted to the sacrifices of the revolutionaries who paid for our freedom with their blood.
But, with all the ongoings in the public domain, the nation faces tragedy from the invisible hand of repression, the very hand that necessitated the revolutionary war to free the black majority from the yoke of repression. For the removal of doubt, the readership needs to be reminded that democracy is not necessarily freedom, so are blacks free in America where there is democracy? What about ethnic minorities in the west democracies, their conditions of life and labour related treatment. You do not need a rocket scientist to tell you that the African or non-white is treated as a second rate human being in the western world. Therefore, Zimbabwe’s land reform revolution is an anathema in the rule book of white supremacy and accordingly necessitated a ruthless confrontation to decimate it in the hope that it would remind every African nation that owning land was taboo. In 1980 the remnant of the colonial dominance maintained its political presence through the discredited Rhodesian Front. With the political space limited the Rhodesian Front put its weight behind the destabilization by the dissident movement. When the dissident movement was crashed in the 1980’s the Rhodesian Front went underground waiting for an opportune moment. One could surmise that they were plotting a counter revolutionary agenda. The labour movement disturbances of the 1990s created an opportunity for them to step in and create chaos in Zimbabwe.
In 1999 the loose labour movement coagulated into a political party, Movement for Democratic Change (MDC), the Rhodesian Front was revived in the spirit and public activities of the MDC. Suddenly the white farmer became active and a sponsor of political activism. The MDC’s first manifesto was written with the advice and guidance of the masters in Washington and London. The officers of the party came from the same senior officers of the defunct Rhodesian Front. On the other hand the revolutionary movement led by the United Zanu PF as the ruling party moved the revolution further by forcefully taking over white owned farms to complete the emancipation of the black majority. This phase of the revolution irked the white farmers and the puppets within the MDC. Through a mutual cooperation to strangle the country’s economy and thereby force a regime change sanctions were unilaterally imposed on Zimbabwe to ensure the country would become ungovernable and give way to the MDC to take over power through a “people’s revolution” made in the west. The United States of America went further to enact a law to specifically force a regime change, ZIDERA. It is not a common secret that the authors of Zidera are not in Washington, they are in Zimbabwe’s towns and cities under the umbrella of the chameleon political movement, MDC, MDCA, CCC and other affiliate organs who represent western democratic values. Does America care about the welfare of Zimbabweans? Why does it concern the American government how many people vote and how they vote in Zimbabwe if they do not care about their own people voting or affected by a hurricane like in New Orleans? If it does not matter what happens to Zimbabweans what then is the motivation to debate Zimbabwean democracy in the houses of Commons and of Lords in the United Kingdom and in the houses of Congress and the Senate in the USA? So who is collecting information and reporting to the west about the Zimbabwean situation? Who pays for those important activities? If their interest is democracy why are they funding MDC, MDCA, CCC among others. Most of the opposition represent clones of the Rhodesian Front hell bound on recovering land from the black majority. In 2017 the transition from former president Mugabe presented an opportunity for Mr Chamisa and his entourage to go and seek the strengthening of sanctions against Zimbabwe in the USA. Instead of sitting down to make suggestions to the new administration they had to go and seek ways to bring down the government. A picture a leader of a political party posing for pictures in the company of colonial masters begging for sanctions to facilitate regime change is simply treasonous.
One might ask, So where is the danger posed by CCC? A sanctions policy for regime change is  counter revolutionary and a subversion of our democratic processes. By creating social strife CCC directly impacts livelihoods. By continuously advancing the argument about the ruling party lacking legitimacy the intention is to cast the government as lacking the mandate to govern, hence deny it the necessary political and economic support and ensure that the government fails. As a result lives are adversely affected and the nation is hamstrung in its quest for economic advancement. In a bit to further complicate the democratic processes the CCC and other political parties affiliated to the Rhodesian Front declare election results before a single vote is cast and reject them as sham. They put together legal teams to fight election results and this has become a common pattern every time elections are held. As long as they win that is democratic and when they lose suddenly they reject results, they are simply bad losers. On the face of it, the opposition has been rigging elections through sanctions and anti-government narratives to undermine the ruling party. Thankfully, the government has awakened to the true nature of CCC and enacted the Patriotic Bill to deal with treason perpetrated by CCC. In that regard the intelligence report detailing the secret planned uprising to storm into state house can be dealt with befitting, both politically and legally. The security organs of the state are well equipped to deal with the destabilisation.
The voting public must understand the true agenda for CCC, destabilisation through sanctions and civil disobedience and violence. As a voter why should the party that champions national economic strife be rewarded. Why should the party of the Rhodesian Front backed by the European Union and the USA be rewarded with votes. Are our young people prepared to go back into the bush to liberate the country from CCC? It is time to ask the real questions that need to be addressed about the political posturing and narrative in the face of the empty platitudes premised on western supremacy. Why should anyone vote for CCC to surrender 40% of mine claims to USA companies in return for political support. Be careful in that yellow regalia, you have joined the traitors’ movement.
I rest my case. Time to be true to revolution instead of falling for the false gold of neo-colonial mantra hidden in aid. The nation MUST stand up to the detractors. They said Forward with Sanctions for you to suffer. Ask Chamisa to say, Down with Sanctions and he will Never say so because he is the author of Zidera hun and Tendai Biti.

“Qoki Caught in Major Ethical Dilemmas and Accountability”

By Nancy Ndaba | The revelations surrounding Qoki Zindlovukazi Investment PVT Ltd and its key figures, particularly Bridget Dube, Sithule Tshuma, Karen Kumalo, and their Lawyer Zibusiso Charles Ncube, are deeply concerning and continue to raise serious ethical and legal issues. Qoki Directors, Sithule, Karen, including Bridget made their investors believe that they don’t get paid or get any incentives for the projects they start up and manage.

Sithule Tshuma

The alleged involvement of Bridget, (the Director, Project Manager, Doner, Donee, land agent of Qoki Zindlovukazi Investment PVT Ltd), in receiving undisclosed commissions from investors for land purchases through Qoki’s dodgy Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) model constitutes a clear conflict of interest. This lack of transparency not only violates the trust of investors and landowners but also undermines the financial interests of Qoki and landowners/stakeholders. Such unethical practices have severe consequences for all parties involved, including potential legal actions and penalties.
As news of the conflict of interest broke, investors, shareholders and clients of Qoki expressed their disappointment and concern over the apparent breach of ethical standards. This raises further questions around Qoki inflating land prices, ZIMRA tax evasion and some large portions of land not being accounted by Qoki. In the case of Mike Ncube’s farm, Lot 6 Lower Nondweni, also known as Nondweni 3, some lucky investors were fortunate enough to be refunded by Sithule over US$20k overpayment of the farm. Sadly, due to lack of Qoki and Zibusiso’s due diligence, Nondweni 3 farm is indivisible. Concerns continue to rise among scores of women who invested in Nondweni 3, a farm scouted by Dube, is currently being marketed for sale by Dube. Many investors have called for a thorough investigation into these matters to ensure that all parties involved are held accountable.
Furthermore, the reported conduct of Sithule in responding defensively, dishonestly, and dismissively to concerns and questions from investors and shareholders only adds to the qualms of fraudulent activities within the organization. In most groups, Sithule as either exited, removed investors, restricted access and communication in groups, threatening to exit groups or just simply ignored and not responded at all. “…I will kindly exit this group….you are free to engage lawyers….” Where Sithule has exited, Dube (based in Zimbabwe), Karen and Siphathisiwe Zondo (based in South Africa) have been left in charge of the projects. Restricting access and communication in groups and ignoring investors’ queries is highly unprofessional and further erodes trust in Qoki’s operations.
The involvement of Zibusiso, Qoki’s lawyer, as the only male director and shareholder in one of Qoki Women’s South African partnership projects (African Dawn) raises questions about the organization’s legitimacy, integrity and adherence to its claimed charitable and philanthropic activities.
Defrauded investors/owners have voiced concerns around Qoki’s ZIMRA capital gains tax avoidance as money paid for most lands, appears to be a different figure supplied to ZIMRA offices. There is evidence that the Qoki ZIMRA matters are being taken care of by Ms Tshuma’s uncle, who appears to be part of this fraudulent syndicate, together with the Deed officer, Ms Everjoy Sikhanyiso Ndlovu’s sister. The duped investors’ decision to reach out to regulatory bodies such as Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA), the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC), and the police to launch an official inquiry into the alleged misconduct is the right course of action. Such investigations can help uncover the full extent of the conflict of interest, financial irregularities, and potential fraud within Qoki.
Additionally, the ongoing investigations by the Law Society of Zimbabwe into Zibusiso’s alleged fraudulent immovable conveyancing processes indicate that this issue may extend beyond just one individual or case.
The situation also highlights the importance of transparency, accountability, and ethical conduct in the Zimbabwe land investments. Regulators and investors are right to call for stricter measures to safeguard the interests of all stakeholders and prevent similar instances of unethical conduct in the future.
As investigations continue and more evidence is uncovered, it is crucial for the relevant Zimbabwe authorities to take appropriate actions to hold those involved accountable and ensure justice for the defrauded investors and landowners.

Zimbabwe: Elections in Context of Systematic Human Rights Violations and Criminalization of Critics | Amnesty

Statement: Zimbabwe’s upcoming general election will take place in the context of five years of systematic, brutal crackdowns on human rights, including recent restrictions on political opposition gatherings, the violent suppression of protests and the criminalization of state critics, Amnesty International said today, ahead of the vote on 23 August.

Over the past five years, the rights to freedom of expression, association and peaceful assembly have been relentlessly suppressed. Amid a sustained crackdown against those who have demanded accountability from the government or organized protests against allegations of corruption, journalists, members of the political opposition and human rights activists have all been targeted for criticizing the government. Almost a fortnight ago, President Emmerson Mnangagwa signed into law the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Amendment Bill, 2022, commonly referred to as the “Patriotic Bill”, further criminalizing dissent for among others, “upsetting” a constitutionally elected government. Health workers who protested poor working conditions and salaries have also not been spared either. They were criminalized for demanding their rights. For example, the then acting president of the Zimbabwe Hospital Doctors Association (ZHDA), Peter Magombeyi was abducted and tortured in September 2019 for being vocal about health workers’ plights. He was freed after few days of his ordeal.

“What we have seen in Zimbabwe over the past five years amounts to a brutal crackdown on human rights, especially the rights to freedom of expression, peaceful assembly and association. Respect for socio-economic rights has also declined dramatically, leaving many people in abject poverty with no means to put food on the table,” said Khanyo Farisè, Amnesty International’s Deputy Director for Southern Africa.

“The Zimbabwean authorities have revealed their brazen contempt for basic freedoms and shown that there is no space for dissent in the so-called ‘second republic’. The police have also repeatedly resorted to excessive use of force to suppress human rights, including the right to peaceful assembly.”

Criminalizing political opposition

The Zimbabwean authorities have increasingly targeted leaders of the political opposition, journalists and activists by weaponizing the law against them for exposing allegations of corruption or demanding accountability. Hopewell Chin’ono, a prominent journalist who exposed a multimillion-dollar Covid-19-related corruption case, and Jacob Ngarivhume, a political activist who called for a nationwide protest against allegations of corruption on 31 July 2020, were arrested and detained in July 2020 to stifle their criticism.

Chin’ono and Ngarivhume later faced various trumped-up charges for being vocal critics of allegations of corruption. Chin’ono was jailed in November 2020 in part for exposing a woman who tried to smuggle undeclared gold through the Robert Mugabe International Airport, and the alleged looting of government funds by individuals with political connections during the Covid-19 pandemic.

As punishment for exposing allegations of corruption and doing his investigative journalistic work, Chin’nono was arrested several times and detained for about 94 days between 2020 and 2021 at Chikurubi Maximum Prison. In a clear attack on Chin’ono, the court also barred his lawyer Beatrice Mtetwa from representing him. After appeals, the High Court has acquitted Hopewell Chin’ono three times over trumped-up charges. Ngarivhume, meanwhile, is serving a four-year jail sentence after he was convicted and sentenced in April for calling for nationwide protests against corruption.

In May, Job Sikhala, a member of parliament for the opposition party Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), was convicted on charges of “obstructing justice” and handed a six-month suspended sentence. Sikhala’s trial was linked to a video shared online in which he is accused of saying that the ruling Zanu-PF party had killed Moreblessing Ali, a CCC activist, in June 2022. Sikhala, who has been detained since June 2022, denied making the video and an expert witness testified in court that the footage had been tampered with.

In September 2022, Zimbabwean author and activist Tsitsi Dangarembga and fellow protester Julie Barnes were each convicted of “inciting violence” after participating in the 31 July 2020 protests against economic hardship and handed a fine of 70,000 Zimbabwean dollars (US$193). They were each handed a six-month suspended sentence, yet later successfully challenged their sentence in court.

On 10 June 2020, three ex-MDC-Alliance youth leaders – now members of the main opposition Citizens Coalition for Change, Joana Mamombe, Cecillia Chimbiri and Netsai Marova, were arrested and charged with falsifying their abduction and torture at the hands of suspected state security agents. The trio were abducted after the police arrested them at a roadblock in Warren Park amid a protest against the denial of socio-economic rights at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic. They were prosecuted for three years, before eventually being acquitted earlier this month, apart from Netsai Marova, who went into exile before the trial was concluded.

Rights to freedom of expression, association and peaceful assembly curtailed

President Emerson Mnangagwa’s rise to power was against the background of the killings of protesters following post-election violence on 1 August 2018, after the 31 July 2018 election. Six people were killed, and 35 others injured, after soldiers fired live ammunition at people fleeing post-election protests in Harare.

The protesters had demanded that official election results be released. Some of those killed and injured were shot from the back, yet five years later, no one has been held accountable. And despite the establishment of a commission to probe the circumstances that led to the killings, no justice has been served. The victims continue to be denied access to justice and effective remedies.

On 16 August 2018, baton-wielding police mounted a vicious assault on peaceful protesters who had gathered in Harare in anticipation of the 16 August national protests against deteriorating socio-economic conditions in the country. Scores of people were left injured following the crackdown. On 15 August, the day before the march, Zimbabwean police announced they were banning the protests through a press statement, saying the demonstrations would turn violent. After the aborted protest, about 128 activists were arrested and placed on remand. Other protests that were planned to take place in four other cities around the country were also banned and some activists were arrested.

In another violent escalation at the beginning of 2019, Amnesty International documented at least 15 killings by police when nationwide protests erupted on 14 January, sparked by fuel price hikes. The state carried out mass arrests, which saw hundreds of people arrested, including prominent activists who were suspected of being behind the protests, on charges including public violence. By the end of April of the same year, close to 400 people had been convicted by the courts, most of them through hastily conducted trials.

During the protests, the police used lethal and excessive force such as tear gas, batons, water cannons and live ammunition. They also launched a house-to-house hunt to track down and apprehend the organizers of the protest and other prominent civil society leaders and activists. Those arrested included Evan Mawarire, a well-known local cleric and activist, and trade union leader Peter Mutasa, who were subjected to trumped-up treason charges in connection with the protests. The state charged 22 people in relation to the protests for attempting to “subvert” a constitutional government.

“Over the past five years, the Zimbabwean authorities have demonstrated little or no respect for human rights and have repeatedly flouted the rule of law. As political campaigning enters full swing, the authorities must ensure that people are able to freely exercise their rights to freedom of expression, association and peaceful assembly. Authorities must respect, protect, promote and fulfil the human rights of everyone before, during and after the election,” said Khanyo Farisè.- Amnesty International

Is Guti Family Wise By Surrendering Ezekiel’s Corpse To ED While Grace Mugabe Refuses?

Unraveling the Enigmatic Declaration: A Closer Look at Zimbabwe’s National Hero Status for Ezekiel Guti.

Robert Mugabe nephew, Leo, saying the late President will not allow Mnangaggwa to have his body for fear that it would be used for rituals.

.

In a surprising turn of events, President Emmerson Mnangagwa declared the late Archbishop Ezekiel Guti a national hero, citing his significant contributions to the country and his global impact. However, beneath the surface of this seemingly honorable gesture lies an undisclosed and intriguing reason that has sparked speculation among Zimbabweans. The hidden motive revolves around the controversial practice of corpse magic, which supposedly grants long life to those who possess the remains of individuals who lived up to 100 years. This article delves into the real reason behind the national hero declaration and its connection to Guti’s alleged ritualistic methodology, limestone bone remains, and President Mnangagwa’s ambition to reach the age of 100.

The Mystery Behind Guti’s Ritualist Methodology:

Before his death, Archbishop Ezekiel Guti in a sermon shared his “secret” to achieving long life up to the age of 100. The so called methodology involved the use of limestone bone remains from another individual who had lived to the age of 100. The source of these remains a matter of speculation, as Guti claimed to have taken three limestones(bones) from the grave of John, the son of Zebedee, during his time in Asia Minor. According to his sermon, he placed these stones in a cave in Bindura, Zimbabwe, thereby imbuing them with magical powers to grant those who came into contact with them a long life.

The Hidden Motive of President Mnangagwa:

The declaration of Archbishop Ezekiel Guti as a national hero has raised eyebrows and led to theories about President Mnangagwa’s true intentions. At the age of 81, Mnangagwa is approaching the milestone age of 100, the very age Guti himself reached before passing away. Some speculate that the President’s motivation for granting Guti this prestigious status was not merely to honor his contributions to the country but to gain access to the revered ritualistic limestone bone remains.

The Secret Power of Corpse Magic:

The belief in corpse magic and its supposed ability to grant long life has deep roots in some cultures and mystical practices. The idea that the remains of individuals who lived a long life possess special powers has fueled various rituals and beliefs throughout history. While many view this as superstitious and unfounded, there are individuals who still place great value on these practices, as evidenced by the alleged actions of Archbishop Guti.

The State Media’s Account:

The state media’s official account of President Mnangagwa’s declaration focuses on Archbishop Guti’s works, such as spearheading social services and contributing to the establishment of educational and healthcare institutions. These achievements alone are certainly deserving of recognition, and the national hero status is typically reserved for individuals who have made significant contributions to the nation.

As Zimbabwe mourns the passing of Archbishop Ezekiel Guti, questions linger about the true reason behind his posthumous declaration as a national hero. While President Mnangagwa officially lauded Guti’s contributions to the country, some wonder if there is a hidden agenda tied to the alleged ritualist methodology and limestone bone remains that promise long life. The concept of corpse magic and its potential influence on political decisions adds an intriguing layer of mystery to the nation’s recent events. As time passes, only the future will reveal the veracity of these speculations and the impact they may have on Zimbabwe’s cultural and political landscape.

“Bomb Device At CCC Candidate’s Home”

By A Correspondent- CCC Spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere has said the party has received a report that a suspected bomb device was thrown at the home of St Mary’s member of parliament candidate Brighton Mazhindu last night.

Mahere said the Zimbabwe Republic Police attended the scene.

“The Bomb Disposal & Forensics Units are currently investigating the incident. Those who were present report that the object was targeted at the main bedroom but narrowly missed and exploded in the carport.”

Below is the tweet from Mahere:

President Chamisa Promises ED Leader of Opposition Seat Post 2023

Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa has promised President Emmerson Mnangagwa a seat in Zimbabwe’s 10th Parliament as Leader of Opposition, a position the former unsuccessfully tabled for him in 2018.

Chamisa, who is widely expected to present Mnangagwa with the most competition among 10 other presidential candidates, was speaking at a rally in Chirumanzu South constituency where he had gone to drum up support for his parliamentary candidate Patrick Cheza.

In 2018, with intentions of making it back into the United Kingdom’s (UK) Commonwealth, Mnangagwa offered Chamisa a similar post.

“Under our Commonwealth parliamentary democracy, the opposition is recognised; we recognise the leader of the opposition in Parliament. This is what we are going to do ourselves,” said Mnangagwa.

A constitutional amendment was reportedly considered by Justice Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi, a move that was eventually scuttled by Chamisa’s decision to dismiss Zanu-PF’s antics.

“We are going to deal with nation-building, we want to unite people. We want to celebrate national events as a country,” said Chamisa.

“Mnangagwa will be the leader of the opposition in Parliament starting on the 24th.

“A leader of opposition is not an enemy of the state, he is an extension because government is not one side, it is two sides, the opposing side and the governing side but these comrades of mine do not know that.”

To counter overspending by the state, Chamisa promised a 15-member Cabinet of performance-based ministers who will be relieved of duties if they fail to deliver.

“Do not choose darkness over light. Governance is the second thing which we are going to fix,” added Chamisa.

“We no longer want MPs and Ministers who get elected so as to abuse public funds, we want people who know that Ministers are about developing this country.

“We will have just 15 Ministers, the moment we get more than those then it will simply be a ‘jobs for the boys’ situation.

“Let us have a mean and lean government that is accountable, where one who fails leaves.”

Gvt Responds to CCC Statement on State Media Bias

Ndavaningi Mangwana, the permanent secretary for the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, has responded to a statement issued by CCC on Tuesday, 25 July alleging State media bias in covering political events.

Mahere said that “it is a matter of public record that ZBC refuses to give any independent or fair coverage to the CCC” leader Nelson Chamisa.

She was responding to claims by the Deputy Information Minister, Kindness Paradza, that the opposition is “refusing to take up airtime on ZBC.”

Posting on Twitter, Mangwana said the Government has directed ZBC formally respond to the CCC public statement so that issue is resolved amicably.

Said Mangwana:

The Public Broadcaster is independent of Govt and has its own board, management and editorial team as well as policy.

We support them with policy directions, resource advocacy, and parliamentary accountability. We have since asked them to formally respond to the CCC public statement so as to correct any misunderstandings which may have arisen between the parties.

The ZBC have assured us that they will issue a statement in the spirit of public institution accountability.

The position of Govt is that;

-the Public Broadcaster is there to serve all. This includes all political parties, all natural or juristic persons.

From our preliminary inquiry, we have been made to understand that, there are challenges with bringing CCC people on air as they either don’t want to come to programs or they have internal contradictions which give them a challenge in deciding who should moderate or appear on a program and how the program should be structured.

This sometimes leads to indecisions on who should attend a program on their behalf and the embargoing of others from attending.

The Public Broadcaster tries to avoid getting involved in these internal contradictions which sometimes lead to the party not being represented at all in spite of ZBC’s efforts at having equitable representation of all players.

When it comes to the airing of CCC adverts, the ZBC reports that CCC leadership has an “unrealistic” expectation that ZBC should do the commercial productions for them.

This is a misunderstanding of the public broadcaster’s role. The CCC party needs to have its own creatives to do its productions just like Zanu PF.

The ZBC is a broadcaster and not an advertising agency and would appreciate completed productions and of course commensurate payment for the purchased airtime.

May we take this opportunity to point out that Zanu PF pays for all the rallies that are aired live on television.

Govt itself pays for the National Heroes Galas that also benefit from live broadcasts.

We call upon everyone to support our National institutions in their commercial efforts to avoid turning into fiscal burdens to the taxpayer.

Black Vendetta Terrorises CCC Supporters

By A Correspondent- A Chitungwiza gang popularly known as Black Vendetta is terrorising residents of the dormitory town particularly Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) supporters, NewsDay has established.

There are claims that the gang is linked to Zanu-PF, but the ruling party yesterday disowned the vigilante group. The gang recently clashed with CCC supporters in Unit O.

CCC ward 22 (Unit O) candidate, Rosaria Mangoma told NewsDay that the gang was stalking her.

“Last week, they came in the middle of the night, threw stones on the roof of my house, banging the gate while singing and uttering derogatory things about me,” Mangoma said.

The case was reported to the police.

The gang is not new to crime in the dormitory town as it has been involved in illegal land grabs in the past.

In April, the gang deflated tyres of a vehicle belonging to CCC legislator, Godfrey Sithole.

“They want units N, O and P to be no-go areas for the opposition. It is archaic politics, an old tactic of intimidating people ahead of elections,” Sithole told NewsDay.

“They are being used by politicians to pursue personal and political ambitions.”

Harare metropolitan police spokesperson, Julius Chakanza, professed ignorance about the gang.

“I don’t know about them. I have to check on your claims,” Chakanza told NewsDay.

Efforts to get a comment from national police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi were in vain.

Zanu-PF chairperson for Harare metropolitan province Godwills Masimirembwa, said the ruling party had no links to the gang.

“As Zanu-PF, we don’t operate gangs or promote gangsterism,” Masimirembwa said.

“We don’t know anything about that group and individuals. Politicians and political parties who have complaints should liaise with responsible authorities such as the police without involving Zanu-PF.”

New Law To Punish Parents

By A Correspondent- Parents and guardians will now become liable for crimes committed by their children under the Children’s Amendment Act.

The newly-gazetted Children’s Amendment Act stipulates that parents who fail to discipline their children, leaving them to commit crimes, will be liable to criminal charges.

A parent or a guardian can be charged and convicted of an offence that a child commits if it is proven that they did not take reasonable steps to stop the child from committing the offence.

The Act was passed by Parliament last month and signed into law by President Emmerson Mnangagwa recently.

The law defines a child as anyone under the age of 18. Before, there was a distinction between children and young persons.

According to Section 13 of the Act, a parent or guardian who fails to prevent their child from committing a crime shall be punished for the offence that the child committed. It says:

Any person, including a parent or guardian of a child who—

(a) encourages a child to commit an offence; or

(b) trains a child in the commission of an offence; or

(c) knowingly provides a child with facilities to commit an offence; or

(d) being a parent or guardian of a child fails to take reasonable steps to ensure that the child does not commit an offence where the parent or guardian of the child was in a position to take such steps;

shall be guilty of an offence and liable to the penalties that could have been imposed on him or her had he been guilty of the offence that the child committed.

The law also says a parent or guardian “who, without reasonable cause, denies medical treatment or access to medical treatment to a child in their care can be fined up to level 5 or jailed for a year”.

Kasukuwere Demands the Release of all Political Prisoners

By A Correspondent- Exiled independent presidential candidate Saviour Kasukuwere has  demanded that the Zanu-PF government must release all political prisoners, and pledged  to act on the issue  if elected into office on August 23.

Kasukuwere made the pledge when launching his election manifesto on Monday. He became the first presidential candidate to make the pledge ahead of next month’s polls.

Kasukuwere said Zimbabwe did not need draconian laws such as the Criminal (Codification and Reform) Act also known as the Patriot Act.

The former Zanu-PF commissar also said the Private Voluntary Organisations (PVOs) Amendment Bill needed to be kept  away from the country’s statutes.

“I Saviour Kasukuwere pledge to you on being elected by the voter as President to pay immediate attention to the following; halting proceedings on the PVOs Bill and Patriot Act, reforming Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission and fighting corruption.

“Expediting the reforming of the State enterprises and government institutions.”

Mnangagwa recently signed into law the “Patriot Act”, which has been condemned as one of the most draconian and unconstitutional laws in the land.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa  recently signed into law the “Patriot Act”,

According to the Act, convicted Zimbabweans face severe penalties such as death and revocation of citizenship.

Zimbabweans can be punished for simply meeting agents of hostile foreign governments.

The PVOs Bill, passed by the Senate in February, is awaiting Mnangagwa’s assent.

Once signed into law, government will be equipped with wide-ranging powers to interfere in the operations of civil society organisations.

In February, United Nations experts pleaded with Mnangagwa to reject the Bill.

Critics, human rights groups and the opposition say the Bill will severely restrict civic space and the right to freedom of association in the country.

Mnangagwa has, however, said he would not hesitate to sign the Bill into law once it lands on his desk.

The exiled former Cabinet minister said his manifesto was anchored on the vision of a functional, peaceful and prosperous nation.

“It’s time to reconcile and put our past differences aside and embrace one another while acknowledging our failures and repairing the damage that our acts of omission and commission have caused.

“The Gukurahundi question requires permanent resolution, and a peaceful closure, as with other past conflicts in our history,” Kasukuwere said.

“I dream of a functional country at peace with itself, where a social contract bridges the trust deficit between the government and its citizens.

“Our country needs a capable, accountable, transparent and responsible leadership which implements the vision of the Zimbabwe we want. It’s time to renew the country’s leadership, enshrine a new national vision with aspirations to restore Zimbabwe’s glory.”

Reflecting on Kasukuwere’s manifesto, political commentator Romeo Chasara said: “The success of his campaign will depend on the practicality of implementing these ambitious proposals and gaining support from key stakeholders.”

Zanu PF Hijacks Guti’s Funeral

By-Zanu PF has hijacked the funeral of the late founder of the Zimbabwe Assemblies of God Africa Forward in Faith, Ezekiel Handinawangu Guti, with its President Emmerson Mnangagwa declaring him (Guti) a national hero.

Guti died on July 5 in South Africa, with his church and family announcing 30 days of mourning.

Guti celebrated his 100th birthday in May.

Mnangagwa visited the Guti family in Harare on Monday, where he declared national hero status on Guti.

Said Mnangagwa: “For some of the heroes and heroines on that site (National Heroes Acre), some people may not really know the profile of their works. We, who have put them there, know.
“But as for Baba Guti, his works are evident for all to see and everybody knows the great works he did. However, the church has the liberty to continue with their plans, but we, as the Government of Zimbabwe, have decided to declare Archbishop Ezekiel Guti a national hero and hereby confer that status.”
Ezekiel TV channel also posted on its Facebook page the conferment of national hero status on the “General in the Faith”, as Guti was commonly known in religious circles.
“On Monday July 24, 2023, His Excellency the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Cde ED Mnangagwa conferred the national hero status upon our late father, Apostle Ezekiel Handinawangu Guti.
“In his speech to the family and church leadership, the President pronounced that the Government of Zimbabwe decided to give this honour to Apostle Guti, in recognition of the great work and impact he has done in the nation and the world over,” reads part of the post.
Last night, the Zanu PF led by acting Secretary General Patrick Chinamasa, National Commissar Mike Bimha, Secretary for Security Lovemore Matuke and Politburo member Omega Hungwe, and Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Minister, Kazembe Kazembe, visited the Guti family to deliver the news of national hero status conferred on Guti.
Chinamasa, who was representing Zanu PF Secretary General Obert Mpofu, said they had been sent by President Mnangagwa and Zanu PF.
“We have been sent by the President to inform the Guti family and church that the party and President saw fit to accord national hero status to Baba Guti.
“A national hero status is accorded depending on the impact one would have done, working for his or her country.
“What has led us to come here is because of his good deeds. He did a lot of work, which everyone can testify even if one would not be a member of ZAOGA. He preached evangelism in Zimbabwe and beyond,” said Chinamasa.
Kazembe then read out the hero conferment letter from Mpofu, directed to the Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Dr Misheck Sibanda.
“His Excellency, the First Secretary of Zanu PF Cde Dr ED Mnangagwa has conferred national hero status to the late Archbishop Professor Ezekiel Handinawangu Guti who died on July 5, 2023,” he said.
ZAOGA FIF national executive chairperson, Apostle Joe Guti said on behalf of the family and church, they were grateful for the recognition that Baba Guti got from President Mnangagwa.
“He worked for 75 years preaching non-stop, demonstrating what Christianity is. God permitted him to live for 100 years of which we say the global church has benefited from that long life.
“He had a global impact on the whole world which is worth celebrating. We are here to appreciate this recognition; thank you for honouring our father, our global icon in the world of faith, not only evangelism but in the academic world, health sector, all sectors of the economy, nation building he contributed, and is worth celebrating,” said
Apostle Joe Guti.
ZAOGA FIF secretary general, Apostle Mishael Nyambo, said the church was grateful for the honour bestowed upon Guti.
“We are more than glad with the national hero status conferment, thanking that works that were done by our father were open for all to see in Zimbabwe.
“The Government was witness to the works because he did not only start a church in Zimbabwe, but other things which benefit the citizens despite not being family members.
“We are grateful that it was recognised and His Excellency, the Government and part, saw it fit to give our church leader a national hero status. We are also glad that the status came in time before his burial,” said Apostle Nyambo.
Eunor Guti said her late husband was a God-fearing man, who left a lot of teachings from which she draws strength.
“His teachings differentiated us from other nations since he taught us to be God fearing, to fight poverty through working with our own hands so that we are empowered.
“He would change countries he visited, including Jamaica, where people used to rely on missionaries. In our church, congregants were empowered and worked with their own hands and managed to buy land which they are collectively building a church,” said Amai Guti.
Apostle Nyambo said burial arrangements will be communicated in due course.
“The church and family are still doing consultations on burial arrangements, but we will advise,” he said.
ZAOGA FIF members yesterday thanked the President for honouring Guti.
Violla Shandukurai said: “He truly deserves this status. He built a university, hospitals, children’s homes, schools, was a unifier who brought souls to Christ, built many churches and never brought sorrow to the Government.
“Yes, he deserves it. This has really consoled the Guti family, Forward in Faith church and all sons and daughters of Baba in Zimbabwe and around the world.”
Mrs Loveness Chiyangwa said: “We are very grateful and honoured as a church that our father has been given this status. May all praises be given to the God of Ezekiel.”
A ZAOGA FIF elder based in the United Kingdom, Pedzisai Zisengwe, said: “He was indeed a man of God whom many people benefited from. Personally I was healed of cancer during his last visit to the UK.
“I went to the doctors and they confirmed that I had been healed.

Mnangagwa Speaks On Controversial Guti’s National Hero Status

Ezekiel Guti

By-President Emmerson Mnangagwa has justified the controversial national hero status he conferred on the late founder of the Zimbabwe Assemblies of God Africa Forward in Faith, Ezekiel Handinawangu Guti, saying, “his works are evident for all to see and everybody knows the great works he did”.

Government Labours To Spell Out Number Of Banned Chamisa Rallies

By-The Government, through the Home Affairs ministry, has laboured to state the number of the opposition CCC rallies the police banned this year.

Trying to convince the world ahead of the next month’s election, the Government said from January to July 2023, CCC had 345 of its political gatherings approved, while ZANU PF has 1 351 notifications also approved.

Addressing diplomatic missions accredited to Zimbabwe and observer missions for the harmonised elections preparedness, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Major General (Rtd) Dr Gerald Gwinji, claimed that from 1 January 2023 up to 10 July, political parties filed close to 2 000 notifications. He said:
Since January 2023, operational districts across the country are maintaining registers relating to all notifications and intentions to hold public meetings made by political parties.
During this period, different political parties have notified the police of their gatherings and some of them met the legal requirement while some could not.
The police have received a total of 1 437 notifications from ZANU PF of which 1351 were compliant, whilst 86 were not compliant as a result they could not proceed.
The CCC filed 410 notifications, 345 of these were compliant whilst the remaining 65 were not.
The MDC had 30 notifications out of which 23 were compliant; other political parties put together a total of 89 notifications and 80 were found to be compliant.
However, CCC spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere said to date, the party’s 101 rallies have been banned or disrupted by the Police or ZANU PF. She added:
Which ZANU PF rally has ever been banned? Is there any letter from [the Police] that shows that they wanted to conduct a rally and were banned from doing so?

Highlanders Seek To End 17-Year Title Drought

HIGHLANDERS fans are slowly starting to believe that this could be their year after the Bulawayo giants extended their unbeaten run in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League to 16 matches at the weekend.

Match-day 16 in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League saw Highlanders going for 16 matches without defeat and extending their winning run to five successive matches.

Bosso have been consistent this season in which they are the only unbeaten side, and this weekend was no different as they managed to grind a result against an organised Manica Diamonds side on Sunday.

The unbeaten run has left Highlanders fans believing that this could be their year after a 17-year-long wait for the league title.

“Our team is playing well and we are confident of lifting the title this season,” said a Bosso fan.

The one-nil win over Manica Diamonds saw Highlanders maintaining their four-point lead ahead of Ngezi Platinum who are second with 30 points.

This comes ahead of a top-of-the-table clash between Ngezi Platinum and Highlanders this weekend.

Six of the eight week 16 matches were victories, while a record sixteen goals were netted at the weekend.

A big win was recorded by debutants Green Fuel, who upstaged Harare giants Dynamos one-nil to move up to 13th position on the log.

Chicken Inn are fifth after bouncing back to winning ways with an emphatic three-one win over Yadah.

Still stuck in the murky waters of relegation is Sheasham and Black Rhinos whose one-all draw did not do them any favours.

Chiwenga Statement On Roman Catholic Sister’s Death

It was with trepidation that I learnt of the death of Sister Margaret McAllen at St Anne’s Hospital, on the morning of Thursday, 20 July 2023. She was blessed with a long life, having been born on 2 February 1942 in Galway, Ireland.

Sister Margaret came to Zimbabwe in July 1983 and humbly volunteered to execute her missionary work as a Sister, at Murambinda Mission Hospital, in Buhera District. She served the Buhera community, particularly the underprivileged, with pastoral passion and inculcated the Christian values of love, empathy and peaceful co-existence that shaped many, especially among the youth, to become responsible citizens.

The late Sister Margaret proceeded to faithfully serve communities beyond the call of duty when she co-founded the Mashambanzou Care Trust with Sister Noreen Nolan, in 1989.

Trust became an important cogwheel in the big fight against illnesses, such as Cancer and HIV/AIDS. It catered for terminally ill patients when the community was still sceptical and shunned those affected as outcasts. Sister Margaret and her co-founder of the Trust remained consistent in embracing such unfortunate victims by giving them free treatment, care and rehabilitation. The death of Sister Margaret, therefore, leaves us spiritually poorer and saddened. She remained steadfast in serving the Lord and gave many people hope and a reason to live. Her immense contribution to the spiritual well-being of communities shall always be cherished.

May her dear soul rest in eternal peace.

ZANU PF Member Kidnapped by Own Party Colleagues Amidst Allegations of Multi-Million Dollar Looting

HARARE – By A Correspondent ! In a shocking turn of events, a ZANU PF member was reported kidnapped by fellow party members from a Housing Cooperation in Harare. The incident occurred shortly after a high-stakes meeting with Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, during which serious allegations of looting millions of dollars from the Nehanda Cooperative were discussed.

According to a reliable source who recounted the ordeal, the crisis began when Sithembiso Nyoni issued a letter urging the continuation of an audit into the operations of the Nehanda Cooperative. Tensions escalated when Andrew Marauka openly expressed his desire for Enisia Gutu and Simba Moyo to be excluded from the audit committee.

The situation further intensified as the leaders approached Omega Hungwe, and Mrs. Hungwe made a phone call to Vice President Chiwenga, resulting in a meeting at the Kingston of SMEs. However, the Vice President’s sudden departure to attend a rally seemed to hasten the proceedings.

Brigadier Mhonda was reportedly present during the meeting, where Mrs. Hungwe insisted that the audit of Nehanda Housing must be stopped. Astonishingly, it was agreed upon that her demand should be adhered to.

In a dramatic twist, yesterday, Enisia Gutu reportedly received a disturbing phone call from Gwauya, informing her that Mr. Simba Moyo had been kidnapped. The kidnappers were allegedly armed, and the vehicle they used lacked number plates.

According to Mr. Moyo, the captors, whom he estimated to be five in number, blindfolded him with a sack and drove him to an undisclosed location, all the while discussing the affairs of the Nehanda Housing Cooperation and making threats on his life. During his ordeal, he was subjected to physical abuse, resulting in injuries and the total stripping of his clothes into two, leaving him half naked.

It is alleged that Mrs. Hungwe might have communicated with the CIOs (Central Intelligence Organisation) to halt their operation, leading to Mr. Moyo’s eventual release. After being freed, he wandered into the mountainous area alone, seeking a way back home. Fortunately, he was found by some male individuals who rushed to his aid, discovering him in a state of distress and total-naked, bleeding from the beatings he endured.

Mr. Moyo was promptly taken to Parirenyatwa Hospital for medical treatment. Shockingly, he claimed that during his captivity, he was injected with what he suspects could be poison.

The incident at Nehanda Housing Cooperative revolves around the alleged looting of over USD12 million, a staggering amount that involves the Cooperative’s more than 5,000 residents. The situation has caused deep divisions within ZANU PF and has brought to light the urgent need for accountability and transparency in the party’s ranks.

Authorities are investigating the kidnapping and assault, with mounting pressure from the public and opposition parties to bring the culprits to justice and shed light on the corruption allegations. As the nation watches closely, the future of the Nehanda Housing Cooperative and the ZANU PF party remains uncertain amidst this grave controversy.

Efforts to get a comment from the Nehanda Housing Association committee were fruitless at the time of printing, as this is a developing story.

New boys, FC Wangu Mazodze are riding high after extending their lead in the ZIFA Eastern Region Division One League to five points with another victory at the weekend.

FC Wangu Mazodze continued their title charge after earning a valuable set of three points in foreign territory following a two-one win over FC Hunter at Rudhaka Stadium in Marondera this Sunday.

The Eastern Region Division One log leaders did not hold back, but made their intentions clear from the word go, with Edward Maffa’s ninth-minute strike giving FC Wangu Mazodze the edge in the first half.

Maffa picked up from where he left off in the second half after completing his brace in the 57th minute, as the men in red and blue went past FC Hunter taking their points tally to 36 after 15 matches.

The victory left Mazodze sitting pretty at the summit of the log standings with a five-point lead, taking advantage of the inactivity of former PSL side Tenax.

Murowa Diamonds Bares President’s Lies as It Shuns Local Employees

Dear Zimbabweans

Murowa Diamonds owned by Rio Tinto Zimbabwe and operating in Zvishavane district recently engaged about 50 Namibians and about 20 Indians as expatriate workers overlooking well qualified and experienced local engineers and artisans. To make matters worse these Namibians brought their own assistants who are earning salaries higher than those of Zimbabwean graduates and artisans. Does Zimbabwe need expatriate artisans and engineers? The answer is a big NO. A year ago the same mine brought in over 200 South Africans to come and lay a water pipeline. A quick survey on the employees of will show very few locals who normally do menial jobs like house keeping.

The greatest scandal is how the ministry of home affairs is issuing work permits to all these foreigners who now constitute a three quarters of all the artisans and engineers working in lithium, diamonds and gold mines. The ZANU PF government especially the ministries of Home Affairs and Mines and Mining development are the worst enemies of the highly educated and skilled Zimbabweans. It is a shame that the Home Affairs ministry is issuing work permits to foreigners like confetti at a wedding reducing local engineers and artisans to street vendors. There is need for ZACC to investigate all the work permits if foreigners working in our mines because some of these workers are trainees masquerading as technicians. Is there any due diligence done on these foreigners before issuing work permits?

The Minister of Mines and Mining development must resign in shame for selling out our jobs to foreigners. Zimbabwe want foreign investors not workers as is the case in most lithium mines where Chinese make the bulk of employees. The President’s mantra that Zimbabwe must be built by Zimbabweans is a facade, an embarrassing rhetoric and just noise signifying nothing. His vision of a middle upper class by whatever year is the devil’s dream of seat in heaven. How can we become a middle class society when the Home Affairs ministry and it’s partner in crime ministry of mines are parcelling out jobs to foreigners?

My fellow countrymen 23 August 2023 is a crucial day that is going to map and shape our future and that of our beloved country. It is common knowledge that us the majority of Zimbabweans are drowning abjective poverty with no hope in sight. Those who are supposed to rescue us from the jaws of this stinking poverty don’t even care. All they are doing is looting and plundering our natural resources to their own personal aggrandizement. Their dogs and cats live a better life than us the povo. Our politicians at large are useless and hopeless.

The attached picture shows the “abundance” of Chinese Nationals during the official opening of the Bikita Lithium mine.

Mnangagwa Home Prep Building Bombed from Underneath

Another School in Emmerson Mnangagwa’s Hometown Faces Threat from Illegal Mining

KWEKWE, [Current Date] – The Camelot Group of Schools, a renowned educational institution in Kwekwe, is facing a serious threat to its infrastructure and the safety of its students as illegal mining operations encroach upon its premises. Reports indicate that several mines have registered their claims within the school’s boundaries, putting the buildings and movable property at risk. This alarming development comes in the wake of a recent incident where a classroom block collapsed at Globe and Phoenix Primary School due to underground mining tunnels, resulting in injuries to numerous learners.

Illegal mining activities have been a recurring issue in the city, with even residential properties being affected. In a nearby neighborhood, a house succumbed to the ground after being undermined by shallow underground tunnels caused by illegal mining.

The situation at the Camelot Group of Schools has prompted the intervention of the Kwekwe District Civil Protection Unit (CPU), led by chairman Mr. Fortune Mpungu. The CPU visited the site to assess the extent of the problem and its potential impacts on the educational institution.

Investigations revealed that three mines had been registered within the school’s 80-hectare property, with special grants issued by the Kwekwe City Council to the miners. Additionally, one mine was registered with the Ministry of Mines and Mining Development in the 1990s before the establishment of the school. These miners are utilizing the special grants to extract valuable minerals, including gold, from the area.

Mr. Jethro Nyarota, the board chair of Camelot Group of Schools, expressed concern over the potential risks posed by the mining activities to the school’s infrastructure and the disruption of the learning process. He also emphasized the school’s future expansion plans, including the construction of hostels, which might be compromised if the land continues to be damaged by mining activities.

“We are worried that these mining activities are going to damage infrastructure and disturb the learning process,” said Mr. Nyarota. “We also have plans to construct hostels and expand the school towards the area, which is being operated by the miners, and by the time we want to construct the hostels, the land would have been damaged.”

The situation has also raised apprehension among parents, with some considering withdrawing their children from the school due to safety concerns. Mr. Herbert Maziriri, the District Schools Inspector, pointed out that the continuation of illegal mining activities would undermine the entire education system.

“I think when authorities are issuing these permits, they should prioritize the safety of learners and prioritize education,” he said. “Camelot is one of the best schools in the district in terms of pass rates and performance. If this continues to happen under our watch, we are sending the wrong message.”

To address the issue, the Environmental Management Agency (EMA) Kwekwe District officer, Mr. Daniel Magombedze, ordered the immediate closure of the mining operations. He clarified that being granted a special grant does not permit miners to start extraction without undergoing the necessary processes, including obtaining the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) approval from the agency.

“Being granted a special grant does not mean the miners should start mining. They should go through all the processes with the Ministry of Mines and unless we grant them the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), the mining remains illegal. The mining should therefore stop forthwith,” said Mr. Magombedze.

Local authorities and concerned parties are now urging strict measures to prevent further encroachment of illegal mining activities on school properties and other critical infrastructure to safeguard the welfare of the community and preserve the quality of education in the area.

CORPSE RITUALS: Grace Mugabe Protects Bob’s Remains As Ezekiel Guti Family Surrenders All To A Giggling Mnangagwa | VIDEO

Unraveling the Enigmatic Declaration: A Closer Look at Zimbabwe’s National Hero Status for Ezekiel Guti.

Robert Mugabe nephew, Leo, saying the late President will not allow Mnangagwa to have his body for fear that it would be used for rituals.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa declared the late Archbishop Ezekiel Guti a national hero, citing his significant contributions to the country and his global impact.

Dodgy Bail and Threats in Bogus Legal Certificate Scam: Pastor Kasi, Ivy Kombo

By A Correspondent | In a shocking turn of events, ZimEye News Network has uncovered disturbing revelations about the arrest of Huggins Hardwork Duri, who was allegedly involved in a scam issuing fake legal practice certificates. Despite being apprehended for criminal abuse of office, Mr. Duri was never truly detained and was granted bail on the very first day he appeared in court.

According to the latest information disclosed to ZimEye, Huggins Duri, the Council for Legal Foundation executive secretary, who is accused of dishing out bogus legal practice certificates to 19 undeserving individuals, including Pastor Admire Kasi and his wife Ivy Kombo, was allowed to walk free on bail immediately after his initial court appearance. This raises serious questions about the integrity of the justice system and the severity of consequences faced by corrupt individuals in Zimbabwe.

What makes this situation even more alarming is that Huggins Duri is reportedly leveraging his connections to the First Family, being the son of a late confidant, to intimidate authorities. He is allegedly threatening to name-drop high-ranking individuals in the legal profession, which could potentially hinder a fair investigation into the extent of this scandal and those involved.

The background of the story reveals that the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (Zacc) stumbled upon this elaborate scam after receiving a tip-off from an individual who was supposed to write a conversion examination. The Council for Legal Education is the body responsible for regulating legal education and training in Zimbabwe, including administering conversion examinations for foreign legal qualifications.

According to the State’s case, on June 19 this year, Duri had a meeting with students who had completed their law studies at the University of Zimbabwe as part of a bridging program after obtaining legal qualifications from foreign universities. During this meeting, Duri allegedly offered to help these students bypass the conversion examination required by the council.

Following this meeting, on June 20, Duri met with the informant and promised to assist him in obtaining the certificate needed to register as a lawyer. He even suggested that the informant should register for the examination and pay a hefty fee of US$560, assuring him that Duri would ensure he received the certificate, regardless of his performance on the test.

However, the informant, realizing the seriousness of the situation, reported the matter to Zacc on June 21, leading to Duri’s arrest while he was receiving the money. Zacc’s investigation revealed that Duri had fraudulently issued 19 certificates to various individuals, some of whom were already practicing as legitimate lawyers, posing a significant threat to the reputation of the legal profession in Zimbabwe.

The ease with which Mr. Duri was granted bail, coupled with his reported threats to name-drop influential figures, has raised concerns about the impartiality and effectiveness of the legal system in dealing with cases of corruption and abuse of office. The public demands answers and accountability for such acts that undermine the credibility of the legal fraternity and the nation as a whole.

ZimEye will continue to closely follow this story and bring you further updates as they unfold. It is essential to shed light on such corruption and ensure that justice is served without fear or favor, regardless of one’s connections or status.
