Elizabeth Valerio Defeats ZEC In Court, Joins The Presidential Race

By A Correspondent| Elizabeth Valerio’s appeal against the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission’s (ZEC) rejection of her nomination papers has been successful. As a result, Valerio, the country’s only female presidential candidate, will now be included on the list of candidates competing for the presidency in the upcoming elections on 23 August 2023.

The decision by the electoral commission to initially reject Valerio’s nomination papers sparked controversy and drew widespread criticism from various quarters, highlighting concerns about gender representation in the political landscape. However, the successful appeal has now opened up the presidential race, making it a more diverse and competitive field.

With Valerio’s inclusion, there are now a total of 12 candidates vying for the presidency. Among them, three prominent figures have emerged as the potential front runners, according to political analysts. Nelson Chamisa, representing the Citizens Coalition for Change party, has gained significant popularity and support among a wide range of Zimbabwean voters.

Emmerson Mnangagwa, representing the fractured post-military coup ZANU PF party, continues to maintain a strong base of support, particularly within traditional ZANU PF circles. Despite facing internal challenges, Mnangagwa is expected to put up a fierce fight for the presidency.

Adding an element of surprise to the race is the emergence of Saviour Kasukuwere, an independent candidate who has quickly gained attention as the “new kid on the block.” Kasukuwere’s unconventional approach and promises of political reform have resonated with some segments of the electorate, making him a potential wildcard in the upcoming elections.

Analysts and political observers have noted that it is difficult to determine Elizabeth Valerio’s exact position among the projected winners. With her successful appeal and the increased visibility as the only female presidential candidate, Valerio’s campaign is expected to gain momentum in the coming weeks. Her policies and vision for Zimbabwe will undoubtedly play a crucial role in shaping the narrative of her candidacy.

At the time of writing, a full statement from Elizabeth Valerio is anticipated, where she is expected to address her supporters and outline her plans for the nation. The inclusion of Valerio as a presidential candidate signifies a significant milestone in Zimbabwe’s political landscape, as it strives for greater gender equality and representation at the highest level of governance.

The upcoming 2023 elections are anticipated to be a closely contested race, with each candidate vying to secure the trust and mandate of the Zimbabwean people. As the nation eagerly awaits further developments, political analysts are closely monitoring the campaigns and assessing the potential outcomes of what is expected to be a historic election

CCC has failed to implement even one reform in 23 years and never will. “Yangova chechi yavaWisiri!

By Wilbert Mukori- Zviripapi! CCC yangova chechi yavaWisiri!” (What a waste! CCC is now a Wesley church building!) commented my cousin after attending Nelson Chamisa’s CCC 2023 election campaign launch in Mkoba, Gweru, on Sunday 16th July.

In my rural village, “Chechi yavaWisiri” was, during my youth, the byword for something not fit for the purpose, for pathetic failure.

The Wesley church members in my home area were allocated a piece of land on which to build their church. I remember a structure going up every few years only to be abandoned before it was complete. And after a few years work will start again on a new structure. Work will once again stop because the members had run out of ideas, money or something.

On one occasion, the structure build out of fired mud-bricks had gone up nearly roof level when there the rain season set in. It was not a particularly wet season. After a few weeks, cracks started appear on the wall. The walls were plastered to cover the cracks. To cut the long story short, the building was abandoned yet again before it was complete; no amount of mud plaster was ever going to hold up that mud-brick leaning tower of Pisa!

My cousin is a shrewd political activist and not to be confused with the brain dead political supporters, from both sides of the political divide, who follow the political leaders blindly, no questioned asked, like sheep to the slaughter. He joined the MDC soon after the party was launched in 1999 but his enthusiasm and zeal did not last. “We have too much dead wood, starting with Morgan Tsvangirai himself!” he explained to me at the time. Time has proven him right again and again.

Lest people forget, the people of Zimbabwe have risked life and limb (Zanu PF thugs have been ruthless with their political opponents and their supporters) to elect MDC (now rebranded as CCC) leaders into power on the promise the party will implement the necessary democratic changes to end the Zanu PF dictatorship. After 23 years, 5 of which in the GNU, MDC/CCC has not implemented even one token democratic reform. Worse still, the party has been participating in flawed elections to give Zanu PF legitimacy out of greed.

It was my cousin who brought David Coltart’s book to my attention, more specifically the confession on the futility of participating in flawed elections.

“The (2013) electoral process was so flawed, so illegal, that the only logical step was to withdraw, which would compel SADC to hold Zanu PF to account. But such was the distrust between the MDC-T and MDC-N that neither could withdraw for fear that the other would remain in the elections, winning seats and giving the process credibility,” confessed David Coltart in his Book, The Struggle Continues 50 years of Tyranny in Zimbabwe. could h where plaster e

My cousin tried his best to talk the likes of David Coltart, Tendai Biti and one or two others “with some grey stuff between their ears” to do the only rational thing – stop participating in flawed 2018 elections to perpetuate the dictatorship. The gravitation pull of greed, the call of the wild, was overwhelming; particularly now that Mugabe had nurtured and cultivated it during the GNU years.

“If there was any pretence of the party seeking democratic changes before the 2008 and 2013 GNU, the pretence died of neglect during the GNU,” explained my cousin.”Soon after the GNU the fight for reform and democratic changes was buried.

“Chamisa and company are now convinced they can win “rigged” elections and political power. At least, this is what they tell the wildebeest herd; cover for why they insist on participating in flawed elections.

“Zimbabwe is a failed state and the need to implement the democratic reforms and end the curse of rigged elections and bad governance is more urgent now that ever. Chamisa and his CCC friends are talking of regime change, that is the change they are now promising not reforms and free elections.

“So MDC/CCC has failed to deliver even one token reform in these last 23 years nor is it ever likely to do so in the future because the party has never had the quality leaders to understand the reforms much less the vision to implement them. MDC/CCC was never ever fit for purpose! Chechi yavaWisiri!”

My cousin had not bothered to register to vote for the 2018 elections when it became clear to him that MDC leaders were participating to give Zanu PF legitimacy out of greed. He is not going to vote next month and has been doing his best to explain the sheer futility of doing so to perpetuate the Zanu PF dictatorship and prop up corrupt, incompetent and utterly useless CCC!

Chiwenga Praises Second “Repubrik”

Mashonaland Central province has pledged to contribute to the national gross domestic product through various sustainable projects, including the mining sector, agriculture and anticipated tourism boom in Kanyemba.

ZANU PF Vice President and Second Secretary General Retired Dr Constantino this Monday led the ruling party’s campaign trail to Mashonaland Central’s Mt Darwin South Constituency.

Addressing multitudes of party supporters at Chiunye Primary School, Dr Chiwenga said government is making progress in road rehabilitation for the province to benefit from the various mining companies that include, Freda Rebecca, Eureka, Ran Mine, the expected boom at Kanyemba Border Post as well as the Muzarabani Oil and Gas project.

“Here in mt Darwin we have a road which had become a problem, Ndoda, we want to tar it. Then the Rushinga-Chimhanda, Mt Darwen-St Alberts, Bindura-Matepatepa, Nyakasikana-Karanda; when we do that, we will be sure we would have solved the challenges facing Zimbabweans in this part of the country,” he said.

“In mineral, we have a mine to be opened at Glendale, Eureka, Mazowe, Shamvaand you know in Muzarabani there is an exploration for gas and oil,” he added.

He also spoke of the Rural Development 8.0 Model meant to uplift communal areas through programmes such as Pfumvudza/Intwasa in maize and cotton production, chicken rearing and borehole sinking programmes.

Vice President Chiwenga reiterated the party’s support to war collaborators in the province as government looks towards honouring these gallant sons and daughters of the struggle at this year’s Defence Forces Day.

“The issue was raised from all parts… and we said, what should we do? We gave something to our war veterans, we know it’s not enough, but year in, year out, we look at how to add to what we give to our war veterans. Now we have added the chimbwidos and mujibhas, so that they also get loans to farm.”

The party’s Vice President and Second Secretary scoffed at those planning to divide the ruling party by contesting as independent candidates, saying ZANU PF remains a formidable force.

Gems Ready To Take On Big Guns

The Zimbabwe senior netball team, the Gems have upped their tempo as they aim to give their opponents a run for their money when the Netball World Cup kicks off in South Africa next week.

Preparations have been on course for the past two months, giving the team enough time to gel and form combinations, before they take on the world’s best in South Africa.

The Gems, however, failed to secure friendlies with other national teams, but resorted to playing male opposition to improve their physical game and technical ability.

GEMS coach, Ropafadzo Mutsauki said, “We failed to secure friendlies with other countries, but when we played against the boys’ teams, we got the confidence that boys are stronger than girls, so we an advantage, but tactically speaking, the boys could be behind because the national team has experts, so we may lag behind in that respect. But we will rectify that during the friendlies that we will be playing in South Africa.”

After flying the nation’s flag high on their maiden World Cup appearance in Liverpool, England in 2019, the ladies are raring to go and improve on their finish at the last campaign.

“We are definitely ready to drop all the big teams, like Australia, Tonga, all teams in the group stage and then we proceed from there. We’ve been in camp, I think for two months now, so we’re ready. We were working on combinations and we are happy with the progress. Definitely, we’re going to give them a good run, they will run, work and we will beat them,” noted vice captain, Claris Kwaramba.

The Gems will fly to South Africa on the 20th of August, where they will begin their World Cup campaign against Australia on the 28th of August.

The Gems will then round up their group matches against Tonga and Fiji.-ZBC News

Be Ready For New Zim – President Chamisa

Tinashe Sambiri

The Citizens Coalition for Change(CCC) has launched a dynamic campaign policy dubbed For Everyone.

For Everyone stipulates that all citizens have a role to play in the struggle for democracy.

On Saturday President Chamisa wrote on Twitter:

“BUMPER YELLOW…A New direction for /Zimbabwe and #ForEveryone We are nation builders.

#OnePeople

“GET YOURSELF READY.

Arise and tell them everything that I command you. Do not be intimidated by them, or I will terrify you…

They will fight against you but will never overcome you, since I am with you to deliver you,” declares the LORD.

Mudzi Man Caught Red Handed Raping A Cow

By A Correspondent- In a shocking incident that has left Makosa villagers shell shocked in Mudzi a 23 year-old man was caught raping a cow.

George Muwirimi was dragged to Mutoko magistrates courts soon after his arrest.

He appeared before magistrate Elijah Sibanda.

The state led by prosecutor Chipo Munemero requested that he be examined mentally by two medical  doctors.

Allegations are that on July 5, the suspect was caught raping a neighbour’s cow around 5am.

The neighbour managed to effect citizen arrest on him  and surrendered him to the police.

The matter continues on July 24.

“A Highly Questionable Visit”

Boxing great, Floyd Mayweather, was recently in Zimbabwe as part of his tour of Africa, which he coined “Money Man Tour”! It’s commendable that people of African descent, especially ones as prominent as Floyd Mayweather, make visits to the continent.

We should be promoting such visits at every turn because solidarity among all peoples of African descent is paramount. We are in this fight for freedom and prosperity together as a people with a similar history of slavery and colonialism. Martin Luther King said it best when he stated, “We must learn to live together as brothers or we will all perish together as fools.”

However, the former heavyweight champion’s trip was riddled with controversy due to its timing. Many have questioned as to why Mr. Mayweather made an appearance in Zimbabwe at this time? The country is holding nationwide elections in late August, and his trip was sponsored, organized and led by a candidate for the ruling ZANU-PF party, a Mr. Pedzisai “Scott” Sakupwanya, who was reported to having spent a large sum of money to host the former world heavyweight boxing champion. Sakupwanya is a controversial figure in politics, who is running for one of the parliamentary seats under the banner of the ruling ZANU-PF party.

While the controversial politician was showing Mr. Mayweather around the constituency he is competing in, “there was an outpouring of anger over his company’s mining operations in Manicaland province,” as reported by the local newspaper, Newsday. Newsday alleges that his company mining operations in eastern Zimbabwe have “caused untold suffering to communities” over the years.

A mine owned by his company, BetterBrands, was closed this year by government “following reports of at least 100 deaths since 2020 due to poor working conditions.” The Zimbabwean Centre for Research and Development, an independent institution has had a sustained campaign to hold BetterBrands to account over the deaths in Sakupwanya’s mines, mineral leakages and environmental degradation, gold smuggling, and lack of transparency. All these, it claims have been given a blind eye by the government.

Mr. Sakupwanya is also one of the characters named in the Al Jazeera documentary – The Gold Mafia, which exposed widespread corruption in gold smuggling in various African countries including Zimbabwe. The documentary heavily implicated the country’s president, Mr. Emmerson Mnangagwa and first lady Auxilia Mnangagwa as key elements in the illegal movement of gold and money in the country. Mr. Sakupwanya was described as one of the biggest gold barons in the money laundering corruption saga.

Perhaps Mr. Mayweather, who also visited with President Mnangagwa while in Zimbabwe, was not aware of any of these allegations about his host(s) but these are the kinds of individuals he was associating with. The current Zimbabwean leaders have spent the last 40 years presiding over the political and economic ruin of what was once a promising African success story. “Mr. Moneyman” spent his time in Zimbabwe visiting with people who have destroyed the country’s economy and infrastructure, agriculture, and health and education systems. And they are doing everything they can to perpetuate themselves in power by ensuring that they fraudulently win the upcoming election in August, 2023.

Perhaps Mr. Mayweather is also not aware of the gross human rights violations that were occurring and have been occurring in Zimbabwe prior to and even as he was there and when he left for South Africa. A duly elected member of parliament from the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change has been sitting in prison for over 300 days on false charges and has not been afforded his constitutional rights to a speedy and fair trial.

Opposition activists are routinely arrested and tortured, barred from holding rallies or political gatherings, and civic, religious and human rights and student activists subjected to sexual violence, torture and even murder. For example, Bishop Ancelimo Magaya, Grace Ablaze Ministries International and Divine Destiny Church, a visually impaired prominent government critic was on June 22, 2022 arrested in his church while he was in the middle of leading prayers, as he said, “for the country’s peace and prosperity.” He was whisked away by armed anti-riot officers, who arrested 36 more people in attendance, beating them with batons as they arrested them. “The level of anarchy manifesting through unlawful arbitrary arrests, torture of political victims, and denial of justice, and the killing with impunity of civilians by state agents is unparalleled and the church is obliged to admonish those in rulership,” said Bishop Magaya.

Zimbabwe is due to hold national elections at the end of August, 2023. The current government is doing everything it can to steal this election, including enacting laws that violate not only the country’s constitution but long established international human rights treaties that Zimbabwe has ratified, including, The Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), The African Charter on Human and People’s Rights (ACHPR) and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. Mr. Mayweather should do his research before embarking on African tours that link him with people and governments that demonstrate no respect for the people that they govern. Zimbabwe is one such country.

Mr. Mayweather was reportedly feted at five star hotels and given high scale receptions on his visit. He need not have looked too far from where he was luxuriating to see for himself poverty and high unemployment, rotting infrastructure, hospitals without proper facilities and medicines, dilapidated buildings, and perhaps a woman and her children on a street talking about a missing husband or brother imprisoned for his political beliefs or for simply urging people to register and vote.

CCC Change Champion Roasts Mutodi

CCC has nothing to gain by spreading a video purported to be ZanuPF Bikita South Candidate Energy Mutodi. Why should CCC engage in trival issues when they have a bigger task of winning big for everyone? The video has gone viral on social media.

DeMbare Fan Succumbs To Mutoriro

Bulawayo City Council (BCC) employees on Monday discovered at Babourfields Stadium, the body of a 47-year-old man believed to be a Dynamos fan, after the Glamour Boys’ 2-0 victory over Chicken Inn on Saturday.

CR7 Not Returning To Europe

Cristiano Ronaldo has confirmed that he won’t be returning to play in Europe, where he believes most leagues there are in decline.

The Portuguese superstar joined Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr last December on a two-and-a-half-year deal following his exit from Manchester United.

The move ushered a wave of big-name transfers such as Karim Benzema, N’Golo Kante and Roberto Firmino.

Speaking postgame on Monday after Al Nassr’s friendly match vs. Spanish side Celta Vigo, Ronaldo told reporters the door back to European football is “completely closed.”

“I’m 100% sure I won’t return to any European club. I’m 38-years-old.

“European football has lost a lot of quality. The only valid one and still doing good is the (English) Premier League. They’re way ahead of all the other leagues.

“The Spanish league does not have that great quality. The Portuguese league is a good league, but it is not a top, top league. The German league I think has also lost a lot. I’m sure I won’t play in Europe again. I want to play in Saudi Arabia.”

Ronaldo also quelled the possibility of moving to USA after his Saudi Arabia adventure, saying the Saudi Pro League exceeds Major League Soccer.

He added: “Saudi league is better than MLS.

Court Sets Chamisa MPs Disqualification Hearing Date

By-The Electoral Court will tomorrow hear a dozen applications filed by Zanu PF activists seeking to disqualify CCC National Assembly candidates in Bulawayo from the 23 August elections.

According to ZimLive, the court ordered the 12 applications, filed simultaneously, to be consolidated due to similar facts.
The applicants, who only describe themselves as “registered voters”, are seeking to have CCC, other opposition parties, and independents barred from contesting.
They are arguing that the defendants filed their nomination papers after the regulated time of 4 PM on 21 June and should not be allowed to contest.
If the applications succeed, ZANU PF could win all 12 National Assembly seats in Bulawayo unopposed.
In the 2018 general elections, the MDC Alliance, which was the main opposition won 11 of the 12 seats.
ZANU PF’s Raj Modi won Bulawayo South after the MDC Alliance fielded double candidates and split its vote.
Meanwhile, CCC argues that all its candidates in Bulawayo filed their papers by 4 PM, but the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) asked the candidates to correct some signature anomalies on the forms.
The party argues that its candidates were ready to file the corrected forms by 4 PM, and were present at the Nomination Court, but ZEC was now assisting other candidates, the party argues.
The process continued into the wee hours of 22 June.
CCC has its own application filed by the 10 candidates for the Provincial Council who were disqualified.
The candidates argued in a court filing that their papers were delivered to ZEC before 4 PM, but the nomination papers appear to have suddenly disappeared while in the court’s custody.

Minister In Abuse Of Office Storm

ZANU PF’s Chirumanzu South Member of Parliament (MP) Barbara Rwodzi has been recorded threatening to deal with an Assistant Inspector in the ZRP for daring to investigate a criminal case against one of her supporters.

In the audio recording the Deputy Minister of Environment, who is seeking a second term in office, is heard threatening to deal with the Charandura stationed officer and promising to take the matter as high as Police Commissioner General Godwin Matanga.

The officer is reportedly investigating one Fidelis “Danger” an ardent supporter of the Pan African Parliament (PAP) member accused of tearing CCC posters in the area.

Describing the officer as a dog, idiot, and fool Rwodzi goes on to unsuccessfully demand all evidence against her supporter.

“You are the one handling Danger’s case? What is his crime? Do you have evidence, I want it and when did he commit this crime,” asked Rwodzi.

“I am following everything you are doing. I am not like all these other people you are used to talking to.

“You are failing to do your job as a police officer, on 12 July I was with him. As an Assistant Inspector and your seniors can you not sit and discuss matter before presenting them to Law and Order?

“You are a stupid idiot, you are a f…ing idiot, a dog. I want to finish you, I want to take you as far as Matanga’s office.”

Rwodzi’s conduct follows rape allegations placed on her PAP colleague and President Fortune Charumbira earlier this year.

The Assistant Inspector however stands his ground, telling her she has no legal right to demand that adding any other information in Danger’s defence can be used in court.

He explains why her Zanu PF supporter is being investigated and begs to understand the vitriol directed at him.

“Danger is accused of tearing CCC posters. I am working on this document so that I present it in court and do not know why I would give you all this information,” responds the officer.

“We have a witness and that he was not there on the day can be used as a defence in court. I do not understand stand what you say by ‘sitting down with my superiors before passing the matter to law and order.’

“I do not know why you are insulting me because I do not know how I am failing to do my job. You have to understand my mandate as a police officer.”

Chirumanzu is another one of Zimbabwe’s political hotbeds, with frequent attacks on opposition supporters recorded particularly towards elections.

Already party officials in the Mapiravana area are said to taking down names of villagers and marking registers with the assistance of Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) backed Forever Associates of Zimbabwe (FAZ).

President Chamisa For Everyone

Tinashe Sambiri

The Citizens Coalition for Change(CCC) has launched a dynamic campaign policy dubbed For Everyone.

For Everyone stipulates that all citizens have a role to play in the struggle for democracy.

On Saturday President Chamisa wrote on Twitter:

“BUMPER YELLOW…A New direction for /Zimbabwe and #ForEveryone We are nation builders.

#OnePeople

“GET YOURSELF READY.

Arise and tell them everything that I command you. Do not be intimidated by them, or I will terrify you…

Jeremiah 1:17-19. Blessed Sabbath #FakaPrayer. “

Those who fail to learn from history are condemned to repeat it.” Are we condemned to repeated rigged elections!

By Wilbert Mukori- In a 1948 speech to the House of Commons, Winston Churchill paraphrased Santayana when he said ‘Those who fail to learn from history are condemned to repeat it.’

Zimbabwe had all the potential to become the South Korea of Africa, a free democratic and prosperous nation, as the Japanese school Ken Yamamoto observed soon after Zimbabwe’s independence. Instead, after 43 years, he have become just another failed African country; a pariah state ruled by corrupt, incompetent and murderous thugs who have stayed in power all these years because the rigged elections.

Let’s face it; we are a failed state because we have failed to learn from history and have and continue to pay dearly for it.

It took Zimbabweans nearly 20 years to accept the political reality that Robert Mugabe and his Zanu PF cronies were corrupt, incompetent and murderous thugs. Having embrace the Zanu PF men and women as the nation’s liberation heroes and heroines it was a bitter pill to swallow that the same men and women would deny the people their basic freedoms and rights including the right to a meaningful say in the governance of the country and even the right to life.

The evidence that Mugabe and company did not care about the freedoms and rights of the ordinary people were there all along; it was the people who refused see and believe their own eyes. During the fight to end white colonial rule, Mugabe and his Zanu PF nationalists had promised “One man, one vote!” for example. And yet Zanu PF made it clear that if the regime was to lose the 1980 elections, the bush war would continue.

Of course, the people voted to end the war and, in doing so, lost their right to a meaningful say in the governance of the country to this day!

It was not until the late 1990s, nearly 20 years after Zanu PF rigged the 1980 elections to impose a de facto one-party dictatorship, that the nation finally reached the consensus on the need to implement democratic reforms to restore the individual freedoms and rights.

After the blatant betrayal by Zanu PF thugs, one would have thought Zimbabweans would be diligent in their selection of the men and women they would entrust the task of implementing the reforms. Or, at the very least, not repeat the same mistake of treating these leaders as demigods who must not be questioned much less held to democratic account, as they did with Mugabe et al.  Alas! That was not to be!

The people of Zimbabwe have risked life and limb to elect MDC/CCC leaders into power on the promise they would implement the democratic changes the nation was dying for. After 23 years, 5 of which in the 2008 to 2013 GNU, Chamisa and his MDC/CCC friends have failed to implement even one token reform. Worse still, they have been participating in these flawed elections, perpetuating the dictatorship – the very thing they were entrusted to end – out of greed.

If Zimbabwean had been diligent and attentive then they would have realised that MDC/CCC leaders had sold out by failing to implement any reforms during the GNU. Or, at the very least, figured out for themselves at the sheer futility of participating in these flawed elections without first implementing reforms.

Coltart’s confession has not helped the penny drop. Whilst most Zimbabweans accept that Zanu PF is rigging these elections, they are participating in the flawed elections because they believe CCC’s oxymoronic claim that the party has winning in rigged elections strategies (WIRES).

These WIRES and claims that CCC will “win big” are just hot air to hide the real reasons why Chamisa and company are hell bent on participating no matter how flawed and legal the process got – greed and incompetence. It was the same reasons why MDC leaders failed to implement even one reform in five years of the GNU.

It is insane that anyone, much less the whole populous, would believe in these WIRES nonsense, especially after 43 years of Zanu PF mafiosi rigging elections. We really are a nation refusing to learn from history!

Still, these people who are ignoring the warning and insist on participating in the flawed elections will sober up on the 24 August 2023, the day after voting day, as Zanu PF claims yet another landslide victory. They will complaining that Zanu PF rigged the elections, conveniently forgetting they had rejected the advice to have reforms before elections because they had a winning strategy to each and every vote rigging Zanu PF shenanigan.

By insisting on participating in these flawed elections Zimbabweans are not only giving legitimacy to Zanu PF but are forfeiting the right to complain about the rigged elections. Voter beware! Buyer beware! Caveat emptor!

It is too late to get the elections postponed. The opposition leaders’ last chance to pressure Zanu PF to clean up the election was by refusing to participate without the verified voters’ roll. They topped over each other to submit their nomination papers and the chance was lost.

Still, the ordinary Zimbabwean can register their disapproval of the flawed and illegal election process by refusing to attend with Zanu PF and opposition rallies and refusing to vote. They will do even better by publicly denouncing the flawed process and the opposition for selling out. It is not too late to let the whole world know but especially SADC that these elections are flawed and that Zanu PF must not be granted legitimacy.

After 43 years of rigged elections, 2 500 years after the Greeks gave mankind democracy as a system of government; we should know that these flawed and illegal 2023 Zimbabwean elections are a farce. And should have the common sense to demand an end to this insanity.

Seek A Gvt That Cherishes Prosperity- Madhuku

Lovemore Madhuku, the National Constitutional Assembly (NCA) president, has stated that the chaotic scenes of crowds scrambling for free groceries at ZANU PF rallies are a sign of the government’s failure.

Speaking at a meeting in Chinhoyi, Madhuku emphasised that Zimbabweans were suffering at the hands of the ruling elite, who must be removed during the August 23 harmonised elections. Madhuku urged citizens to seek a government that cherishes prosperity and indicated that every ZANU PF rally is evidence of failure. He said:

Citizens should seek a government that cherishes prosperity. Remember there is Madhuku who will be on the ballot paper on 23 August vying for president. There would be others but don’t vote for them.

If this country was ruled effectively, people would have adequate food stocks in their households, they shouldn’t go to rallies to get basic commodities.

If people had cooking oil, rice and mealie-meal, they would not go to a rally to get these things, but go and contribute to nation building through exchanging views and ideas, and listen to what the leadership is promising.

Attending rallies in order to get these things is evidence of failure because the masses are suffering.

People should come voluntarily (to rallies) using their own money because they would be in a position to afford. Every ZANU PF rally is evidence of failure.

He further urged the electorate to vote for NCA in upcoming polls and remove Mnangagwa’s regime, which has not succeeded in improving Zimbabwe’s economic situation.

Madhuku also reiterated the need to rejig the 2013 national Constitution, which he said was a compromise document agreed between late former president Robert Mugabe and Morgan Tsvangirai, the then opposition front-man.

Madhuku has contested previous presidential polls, and despite his unwavering determination to land the presidency, he has fared dismally in past plebiscites. His participation in elections is largely viewed by detractors as a sideshow to give credence to a supposed democratic society.

The situation in Zimbabwe is dire, with some members of the public attending rallies for food and free groceries as they are unable to afford them. The economy has been in collapse for years, with some analysts claiming that the government deliberately caused this to make the electorate dependent on them. By controlling the distribution of resources, they can manipulate the voting process, determining who gets what, when, and how. Those who do not support the government risk missing out on these essential goods. Some of the goods donated at these rallies include farming inputs such as fertilizers and seeds, groceries, as well as party regalia.

ZINWA Says Kunzvi Dam 64% Incomplete

The Zimbabwe National Water Authority (ZINWA) says the construction of Kunzvi Dam in Mashonaland East Province is now 36 percent complete.

The dam is being built by a Chinese company 67 kilometres northeast of Harare, near Juru Growth Point on the Nyanguvi River, which separates Goromonzi and Murehwa districts.

When completed, the dam is expected to solve Harare’s perennial water shortages.

Speaking to New Ziana, ZINWA corporate communications and marketing manager Marjorie Munyonga, said:

The Zimbabwe National Water Authority (ZINWA) wishes to advise the public and stakeholders that the construction of Kunzvi Dam, in Mashonaland East remains on course with the dam now 36 percent complete.

Current work at the site includes excavation of the core trench, grouting on the core trench invert, backfill on the core trench, placing fill material on the fill zone and construction of a masonry downstream access bridge.

Other works include the placement of riprap on the upstream slope, the placing of coarse filter on the upstream slope, outlet trench excavation and construction of remaining houses at the ZINWA senior camp.

Construction of the dam was first mooted in 1912. It has been shelved over the years due to financial challenges and only began in 2021. It is expected to be completed at the end of 2024.

Harare’s main source of water, Lake Chivero, is heavily polluted by sewerage water and effluent from industries.

Due to the complete breakdown of the reticulation system, raw sewerage from residential areas and effluent from industries flows directly into Lake Chivero.

This has forced the Harare City Council to spend about US$3 million every month to buy more than 11 chemicals that it uses to treat the water.

Kunzvi Dam is expected to provide Harare with “clean” water, less costly than Lake Chivero.

Altercation With Botswana Based Mother Ends In Tragedy For 17-Year-Old Byo Girl

17-year-old girl from Cowdray Park allegedly committed suicide by hanging from a tree after an altercation with her Botswana-based mother.

The teenager identified as Angela Ncube allegedly had a fall-out with her mother after she had disciplined her younger sister.

A CITE news crew visited the family on Monday and spoke to family members and the landlord where the teen rented a room, who narrated the details that led to the incident.

Ncube was found hanging from a tree near Cowdray Park Secondary School, a short distance from her home, tied with a rope similar to that used for towing cars.

“I have been staying with the two girls for a while now. It was her and her young sister aged 10. Their parents are in Botswana where they work. On Saturday morning, around 10 AM, she had an altercation with her young sister and she beat her. I then talked to them and reprimanded them both and told Angela not to beat her sister when they argue,” said the landlady who identified herself as Ms Dube.

“I then went outside later on in the afternoon to attend a community meeting. I saw Angela on my way there, she was coming from her vending stall. She greeted me and proceeded to the house. Nothing seemed amiss about her.”

Ms Dube said Angela returned home around 5 pm from her vending stall and cooked supper.

“I saw her cooking around 6 pm and they ate with her sister. I later went to bed. I didn’t notice anything suspicious. In the morning I was woken by some neighbours who told me that a person, similar to Angela, had been found hanging from a tree,” she narrated.

“I then called her little sister and she told me that Angela left in the night after a phone call with her mother. They had discussed the incident about her beating her young sister. She (young sister) said Angela told her she was leaving and they would meet at the cemetery. I rushed to the scene and I confirmed that indeed it was her.”

Her maternal family members who had gathered at the house said they were distressed over the incident and it was hard for them to accept that Angela had taken her life.

“We are shocked. It is hard to accept that she is gone. She was such an obedient child, she would not have been capable of doing such a thing. There is a lot that is amiss about this whole incident. That rope is too big, where could she have acquired it? How did she even climb that tree she hung from? It is too big and it has no lower branches, we have a lot of questions,” Ms Khumalo, Angela’s aunt said.

Bulawayo police acting spokesperson Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele confirmed the incident.

She said the police were called on Sunday morning around 7 am and investigations are underway.

“On July 16, 2023, at around 7 am, the informant, Viyisiwe Dube advised ZRP Cowdray Park through a phone call to the effect that her tenant Angela Ncube had hanged herself on a tree which is at Cowdray Park Secondary School Grounds. ZRP Cowdray Park and Scenes of Crime attended the scene and observations are that; the deceased Angela Ncube used a rope to hang herself on a big tree which is at Cowdray Park Secondary School grounds. The deceased was putting on black grey slippers, Cream Socks, Blue skin jean trousers and a Gray jacket. The body of the deceased was inspected and had no visible injuries. No suicidal note was noted,” Asst Insp Msebele said.

UZ Students Finally Granted Bail

Harare High Court judge Lucy Mungwari has granted bail to four student activists who were arrested two months ago charged with painting graffiti on some prominent city buildings in protest over the continued incarceration of Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) lawmaker legislator Job Sikhala.

The four, who are University of Zimbabwe students, are Emmanuel Sitima, 24, Comfort Mpofu, 22, Tawanda Watadza, 24, and Lionel Wadamombe.

The students, who are members of ZINASU, were all ordered to deposit Z$500,000 bail each.

The students approached the higher court after Harare magistrate Learnmore Mapiye had denied them bail stating that there was a strong case against them.

The magistrate had said the activists should be denied their freedom to send a message to would-be offenders that tampering with state institutions will not be tolerated.

The students are facing seven counts of malicious damage to property, and are alternatively being charged with counts of criminal nuisance.

Allegations are that on May 14, 2023, the four, together with others who are still at large, went around protesting for the release of Sikhala from pre-trial detention.

It is alleged that the students defaced government buildings in the Harare CBD and spray painted the words “Free Wiwa”, “Free Job Sikhala”.

Prosecutors allege they drew graffiti on the High Court of Zimbabwe building walls, Parliament building, the Methodist Trinity Church building and the Constitutional Court building.

They allegedly did the same at the Harare Civil Court, Runhare House building and at Karigamombe Centre.

Political Parties Urged To Promote Peace

A peace advocacy group, 4H Zimbabwe, has called on political parties and media organizations to disseminate nonviolent content before, during, and after the upcoming harmonized elections on August 23.

During a media engagement meeting held in Harare on Wednesday, the Executive Director of 4H Zimbabwe, John Muchenje, emphasized the crucial role that political parties and the media play in fostering a peaceful electoral process.

Muchenje urged political parties to avoid spreading content that incites violence, highlighting the potential harmful consequences such messages could have on the electorate and the nation as a whole.

“We are striving to promote peace between political parties and subsequently between political parties and the media, recognizing the significance of both,” said Muchenje.

He added, “We encourage political parties to disseminate content that does not fuel violence. The same message applies to the media, which serves as an important tool in promoting peace before, during, and after elections.”

Also speaking at the event, Obert Gutu, a representative of the National Peace and Reconciliation Commission (NPRC), urged citizens to report any incidents of violence to his organization.

He stated, “If anyone has complaints, they should approach us because we cannot actively seek out grievances on the streets. Without reports being brought to our attention, we cannot accurately gauge the situation. We do not engage in hunting for complaints or go on witch-hunts.”

Gutu’s response was in reaction to accusations made by Stephen Chuma, a representative of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), who criticized the NPRC for allegedly disregarding multiple reports of violence targeting his party members, including the Kwekwe incident that resulted in the death of Mboneni Ncube in the lead-up to the by-elections held in March 2022.

The media engagement meeting aimed to promote peace before, during, and after the elections. It brought together representatives from various political parties, including Zanu PF, the Citizens Coalition for Change, and the MDC led by Douglas Mwonzora.

Chiwenga Mocks Kasukuwere

By- Vice President Constantino Chiwenga on Monday invaded former President Robert Mugabe’s cabinet minister, Saviour Kasukuwere’s home area and denounced the former Zanu PF political commissar.

Chiwenga was at Chiunye Primary School in Mt Darwin South constituency, where Kasukuwere hails from.

One of Mugabe’s G-40 King pins, Kasukuwere, was disqualified last week as a presidential election candidate by the High Court.
This was after the court found that the former legislator for Mt. Darwin South had failed to meet the basic requirement of being a registered voter to enable him to contest in the August 23 elections.

Addressing the gathering, Chiwenga said he was heartened by the people of Mt Darwin’s high level of political maturity and consciousness which saw them distancing themselves from Kasukuwere’s failed attempt for the presidency.
He said such political consciousness, horned in the liberation struggle, had been a key cog in Mt Darwin’s resolute support for the quest for independence.
He paid tribute to the ruling party’s supporters for continuing to back the revolution particularly at a time President Mnangagwa had set the economy on a path to rapid economic growth.
“What we want is for people to follow the national Constitution if they want to participate in elections,” said Chiwenga.
“There is this gentleman who comes from near this place. He sold out and sought to take the ruling party as personal property. That is impossible. Zanu PF cannot fit in anyone’s pocket but we all fit inside Zanu PF.
“This idea of trying to disrupt our elections will not succeed. If you grandstand, undermining our processes it is you who will fail.
“Our Constitution is clear that our courts are there to interpret the law. If you fall foul of the law, you can’t turn around and start maligning others who were not part to your transgressions,” said Chiwenga.
The Constitution, under Section 169, stipulated that if one wanted to participate in elections, there was a period one was expected to be ordinarily resident in the country.
“That law cannot be changed to suit anybody. It is the law. If you want to be a candidate, you must meet the minimum set requirements,” he said.
Chiwenga said the ruling party and its presidential candidate were ready to face anybody at the polls and were confident of romping to victory on the back of economic development projects being championed by the Second Republic.
He implored the electorate to resoundingly vote for President Mnangagwa and the ruling party candidates so that the Second Republic could continue with the development work currently being championed across the country.
Mt Darwin South ruling party parliamentary candidate Kudakwashe Mupamhanga said the revolution was safe as people in the constituency were ready to affirm it by resoundingly voting for President Mnangagwa on August 23.
“Former members are not members and sellouts will not be tolerated and all those who want to rejoin the party should do so in a proper way like what the Vice President has said.”
Mupamhanga said: “We are emboldened, stronger and energised, ready for the harmonised elections to win for the party and vote for President Mnangagwa. August 23 is a forgone conclusion.”

We Are Winning, Claims Mnangagwa

President Emmerson Mnangagwa, who is also the ZANU PF First Secretary, has urged the nation to embrace peace as the August 23 general elections draw close.

He was addressing thousands of ZANU PF supporters gathered at Chinorumba Secondary School in Zaka this Sunday.

President Mnangagwa said everyone, including the opposition, must preach the gospel of peace.

“We began our rallies in the East, where the sun rises so that new things may come upon Zimbabwe as we win the 23 August elections. There were lots of people there but here in Masvingo, you have surpassed that. We have also been to Bulilima in Matabeleland South, and the turnout was huge.

“We should work together from the East to the South; we preach unity, peace, harmony, love. Whoever wants to join us should do so in our own song, they should not come with their own songs.

“The first thing which is important for the growth and development of our country is the keeping of peace. Since we began this campaign, there is peace in this country. I hear some other political party is having its rally in Gweru, i hope they embrace the peace prevailing in the country,” said the President.

“As we work together for our country, with respect among us, even our ancestors are pleased. See how beautiful it is when we all sit together as one, planning for the growth of our country. Those from the West wish the people of Zimbabwe to rise against the Government, but you are humiliating them by not doing so.”

The President chided the West for imposing sanctions on Zimbabwe, which he said have failed to separate the people from the ruling party.

“Those that had put us on sanctions thought this would make you rise against government, but you have proven otherwise. We should be proud to be Zimbabweans.

“Adoption of Pfumvudza addresses the issue of food security at household level. Free inputs are being given to small scale farmers and at household level. Commercial farmers are getting loans and we have so far realised 3 years of food security. We are now able to assist some countries including our friends in Rwanda. We used to buy wheat from Ukraine and fertilizer from Russia. But we are now making inroads into producing our own fertilizer and the wheat yield is increasing and now we no longer import,” he added.

He said the people’s welfare is a primary concern of the Second Republic so that people get out of poverty.

“Be someone who is remembered for preaching peace and unity, even after your death.”

“Our drone has counted you and you are more than 124 000. Mavhenyengwa and Chadzamira, you take the trophy,” said President Mnangagwa.

He reiterated, “We dont accept hate speech. We accept people may have different views, it’s expected, that is democracy. To all aspiring candidates, know that the people are the bosses. Those that put you into leadership positions, the people, are the bosses and you should respect them.”

Added President Mnangagwa, “We must be proud that we are Independent, we are a free people. We must be respected. We will not accept to be treated as second hand citizens.

We are equal to every single member of the United Nations. No nation should ever look down upon you. You are royal people. We are a great nation, we must never think we are inferior. We have a great country.”

“Thank you for coming out in numbers. I urge you to remain united and disciplined, under ZANU PF. Let us go and mobilise for the victory of our colossal Party. Our party shuns violence. Victory is certain. God bless Masvingo God bless Zimbabwe.”-ZBC News

Taking Care Of The Elderly

Key facts

Around 1 in 6 people 60 years and older experienced some form of abuse in community settings during the past year.
Rates of abuse of older people are high in institutions such as nursing homes and long-term care facilities, with 2 in 3 staff reporting that they have committed abuse in the past year.
Rates of abuse of older people have increased during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Abuse of older people can lead to serious physical injuries and long-term psychological consequences.
Abuse of older people is predicted to increase as many countries are experiencing rapidly ageing populations.
The global population of people aged 60 years and older will more than double, from 900 million in 2015 to about 2 billion in 2050.
Overview

The abuse of older people, also known as elder abuse, is a single or repeated act, or lack of appropriate action, occurring within any relationship where there is an expectation of trust, which causes harm or distress to an older person. This type of violence constitutes a violation of human rights and includes physical, sexual, psychological and emotional abuse; financial and material abuse; abandonment; neglect; and serious loss of dignity and respect.

Scope of the problem
Abuse of older people is an important public health problem. A 2017 review of 52 studies in 28 countries from diverse regions estimated that over the past year 1 in 6 people (15.7%) aged 60 years and older were subjected to some form of abuse (1). Although rigorous data are limited, the review provides prevalence estimates of the proportion of older people affected by different types of abuse.

Data on the extent of the problem in institutions such as hospitals, nursing homes and other long-term care facilities are scarce. However, a review of recent studies on abuse of older people in institutional settings (2) indicates that 64.2% of staff reported perpetrating some form of abuse in the past year.

Emerging evidence indicates that the prevalence of abuse of older people in both the community and in institutions have increased during the COVID-19 pandemic. A US study, for instance, suggests that rates in the community may have increased by as much as 84% (3).

Abuse of older people in community settings
Abuse of older people in institutional settings
Globally, the number of cases of elder abuse is projected to increase as many countries have rapidly ageing populations. Even if the proportion of victims of abuse of older people remains constant, the global number of victims will increase rapidly due to population ageing, growing to some 320 million victims by 2050, as the global population of people aged 60 years and more increases to 2 billion by 2050.

Consequences
Abuse of older people can have serious physical and mental health, financial, and social consequences, including, for instance, physical injuries, premature mortality, depression, cognitive decline, financial devastation and placement in nursing homes. For older people, the consequences of abuse can be especially serious and recovery may take longer (4).

Risk factors
Individual level characteristics which increase the risk of becoming a victim of abuse include functional dependence/disability, poor physical health, cognitive impairment, poor mental health and low income. Individual level characteristics which increase the risk of becoming a perpetrator of abuse include mental illness, substance abuse and dependency – often financial – of the abuser on the victim. At the relationship level, the type of relationship (e.g., spouse/partner or child/parent) and marital status may be associated with an elevated risk of abuse, but these factors vary by country and region. Community- and societal-level factors linked to elder abuse may include ageism against older people and certain cultural norms (e.g., normalization of violence). Social support and living alone reduce the likelihood of elder abuse (5).

Prevention
Many strategies have been tried to prevent and respond to abuse of older people, but evidence for the effectiveness of most of these interventions is limited at present. Strategies considered most promising include caregiver interventions, which provide services to relieve the burden of caregiving; money management programmes for older adults vulnerable to financial exploitation; helplines and emergency shelters; and multi-disciplinary teams, as the responses required often cut across many systems, including criminal justice, health care, mental health care, adults protective services and long-term care (5). Give them a stairlift as a gift.

In some countries, the health sector has taken a leading role in raising public concern about abuse of older people, while in others the social welfare sector has taken the lead. Globally, too little is known about elder abuse and how to prevent it, particularly in developing countries.

They will fight against you but will never overcome you, since I am with you to deliver you,” declares the LORD.

President Chamisa Exposes Zanu PF Lies

17th July 2023

By Wezhira Munya

Yesterday, Citizens Coalition for Change [CCC] leader, President Nelson Chamisa promised to give resettled citizens title deeds and ensure they reside permanently on their land.

Addressing over 70,000 strong CCC supporters in Mkoba Stadium, President Chamisa said, “We [CCC] will not divide the country. Some are saying he [Chamisa] will come and take the land or reverse it. It’s not true; they are lying. On the contrary, I will give you title deeds to stay on the land permanently. I will not do what the present government is doing, which is removing people from Chilonga, Dinde, and Mutoko….”

The above message by President Chamisa is in the attached video, and one can access it on any online platform that broadcasted the CCC rally yesterday. CCC supports the land reform program and has declared it irreversible.

However, Zanu-PF has only taken and is currently circulating a 0.09-second part of the 3-minute video and said, “President Chamisa will reverse land…”. This is Zanu-PF’s ill-conceived propaganda.

President Chamisa held a rally in Chilonga last week and promised citizens that his government would not evict them from their ancestral land.

On the contrary, it is the government led by Mr. Emmerson Mnangangwa that intends to relocate Chilonga people from their ancestral land.

To put the issue of Chilonga land that President Chamisa addressed into perspective:

According to the MACRAD Trust paper titled “Chilonga Court case, Summary and Update”:

The High Court judge, Mafusire J, sat on 5/01/2022 and dismissed an application by Chilonga residents Livison Chikutu and 2 others.

The case was against the Minister of Lands and 2 others (HH02/22).

The judge dismissed an application to have the provisions of section 4 and 6[1][b] of the Communal Land Act, Chapter 20:04, declared unconstitutional.

It is on record that President Chamisa and citizens have been in Chilonga, supporting citizens in Chilonga to stay on their land.

Change Radio, Studio 7, Tellzim, among other news outlets, have informed the nation about the issue of the Zanu-PF-led government’s intention to remove Shangani residents from their land.

Bosso Maintain Unbeaten Run

Highlanders stretched their lead at the top of the Castle Lager Premiership table following a 1-0 win over Herentals on Sunday.

Bosso moved four points clear at the top with thirty-one points.

Melikhaya Ncube netted the solitary goal in the 28th minute.

The result stretched the Bulawayo giants’ winning run to four games, while the side remained the only team without a defeat this season.

At Gibbo Stadium, Obriel Chirinda netted a hat-trick to stir Bulawayo Chiefs to a 3-0 victory over Triangle United.

Chirinda opened the scoring moments after the half hour before doubling the cushion in the 78th minute.

He sealed the triumph on the stroke of fulltime as Chiefs move up to number 6.

Elsewhere, Black Rhinos continued with their recovery after picking a point against Hwange in a 1-1 draw.

Allan Gahadzikwa netted the opener for Rhinos in the 41st minute before Kelly Shiyandindi grabbed a late equaliser from the spot.

Herentals Unhappy With Loss To Bosso

Herentals coach Kumbirai Mutiwekuziva has blamed the match officiating after his side lost 1-0 to Highlanders in Sunday’s Castle Lager Premiership Matchday 15 encounter.

The Students succumbed to their first loss in four games courtesy of Melikhaya Ncube’s solitary 28th-minute goal.

Speaking after the match, Mutiwekuziva believes his charges should have been awarded a penalty in the late stages of the game.

He said: “Highlanders managed to win with the help of the referee.

“He gave them more advantage more than us.

“We made penalty calls, which were genuine, but he ignored.”

The gaffer, however, admitted their opponents gave them a good run despite the referee’s calls.

He added: “We tried hard but they did well to defend.

“It’s obviously not the result that we wanted, but this is a team that is doing well. I’m proud of the work the boys put in.

“I hope we will improve from the positives the team showed today. Highlanders are the winners today and we accept it.”-Soccer24 News

Mnangagwa Boasts Of Victory

Mnangagwa Aide In Accident

Deputy Minister of Information and Publicity Kindness Paradza was involved in a serious accident near Mvuma yesterday. He and his aides escaped uninjured.

Mabhero Banned

By- The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) has adopted a protocol to ban trade in second-hand clothes (mabhero) across the continent.

The move aims to promote value-addition and industrialization in the textile industry.

During the Council of Ministers’ meeting held under the theme “The Role of the Private Sector in the Implementation of the AfCFTA: Own and Drive AfCFTA,” discussions were held on various issues, including rules of origin on textiles and clothing, estimated tariff revenue losses, and allocation of adjustment facility. Proposals were also made to front-load liberalization of trade in basic agricultural products. AfCFTA secretary-general, Mr. Wamkele Mene, stated that the decision to ban trade in second-hand clothes is a significant step in promoting industrialization and value-addition in Africa. He said:

The decision of the Council of Ministers is a strong message that our single market will not be used as a dumping ground for used clothes coming from outside Africa.

He added that the move would significantly protect the African textile industry and promote investment.

According to Zimbabwe Textile Manufacturers’ Association chairperson, Mr. Admire Masenda, the protocol banning trade in second-hand clothes would revive the textile industry across the continent. Mr. Masenda stated that second-hand clothes have adversely affected the industry, and reviving it would create better job opportunities for citizens who can, in turn, buy new clothes. He cited a study that shows the UK alone dumps about 14 million tonnes of clothes in Africa per year, leading to a loss of approximately 200,000 jobs across the continent.

In 2015, Zimbabwe banned the importation of second-hand clothes to protect the local textile industry and promote value addition. However, due to an outcry from vendors’ associations, restrictions were later eased. While the ban has been supported by the industry, informal vendors argue that it would hurt their livelihoods.

Approximately 95% of textiles in Zimbabwe are imported, and the country exports around 85% of cotton lint due to a lack of local investments. Zimbabwe, as a cotton producer, used to have a thriving textile industry but now faces competition from imports and a lack of investment. Traders typically source second-hand clothes from neighbouring countries, sometimes through smuggling.

The East African Community has encouraged member states to buy clothes and shoes made in the region to boost local industries, with Rwanda being the only country to implement the plan through high import taxes.

Norton Prophet Beaten Up Over Fake Ressurection

By-A Nortn base prophet, Vincent Nyamadzawo, was thoroughly beaten by mourners after failing to bring a dead congregant to life.

Nyamadzawo of Tree of Life International Ministries has been forced to relocate after his claims to have the resurrection powers were proved to be

Angry mourners beat him up after his two-hour prayer failed to bring the late Sekuru Fungo to life.

Ironically, Nyamadzawo had prayed for the deceased about 30 minutes before his death.
When Fungo died, the prophet claimed that he was only asleep and he needed two hours to resurrect him.
However, it backfired and the church has since shut down after his followers stopped attending his services citing fake prophecies.
Nyamadzawo packed his property on Wednesday last week and left for Mvurwi where he found another home to start afresh.
He had also caused a storm after allegedly approaching girls from his church in their WhatsApp inboxes and asking them if they were virgins.
When contacted, the prophet said: “I am busy right now, ndikuda kutobuda ndakamirirwa nemota. I am not able to talk about that issue.”
During his two-hour prayer at the hospital, Nyamadzawo said: “If Jesus raised Lazarus then what will stop me?”
The deceased’s daughter, Elizabeth, said: “Kana munhu afirwa zvonetsa kutambira ndaingoti zvimwe baba vachamuka asi zvaramba,”said Elizabeth.
One of the elders from the church condemned the prophet.
“Vamwe baba vemwana vekuchurch vakafa.
“Doctors declared him dead and the relatives were ordered to sign documents for the body to be taken to the mortuary.
“The prophet ordered the relatives not to sign the papers claiming that he would resurrect him, he then started praying for the deceased.
“He had prayed for him 30 minutes before his death.”
Another church member added: “The pastor went to pray for the deceased while he was still alive in hospital but vachibva ikoko akabva asara achifa.
“So, he was approached by the deceased’s daughter whom he advised not to sign documents for the body to be taken to the mortuary.
“He advised that he would resurrect him and begged some nurses to pray for him and he was allowed in.
“But his efforts did not yield results until the nurses decided to move him outside.
“The guard also ordered him out achiti anga akuita kunge munhu akupenga until munhu azoendeswa kumortuary.
“The church collapsed since he was making fake prophets and dissing congregants.
“Pastor ava ndevefake, vanga vauya kuzotsvaga mari kune vanhu.
“He was also moving around claiming that there were no virgins in the church.
“It looked like he was looking for virgins in church. He would inbox girls around 12 midnight asking kuti muri mavirgins here.”
Another congregant said: “I am part of this story since I am one of the church members.
“We had to confront him and people started beating the pastor.” H Metro

Mnangagwa Puts Chamisa Under Surviellance

By- Zanu PF has put the opposition CCC under surviellance.

The party’s President, Emmerson Mnangagwa, revealed this and said they used drones to monitor the CCC campaign launch event in Gweru Sunday.

Speaking during the party’s rally in Zaka in Masvingo Province on Sunday, President Mnangagwa claimed that ZANU PF had more supporters than other parties. He said:

We launched in Chipinge and there were many people. We went to Bulilima (Matabeleland South), then we were in Magunje, there were 75 000 people.

Today, our drones have counted the people and we have 124 000 people. We have also sent our drones to Gweru, where the other party is launching and there are 15 000 people.

Mnangagwa also stressed the need for peace among political parties ahead of the elections, and praised the country’s economic growth, which he claimed was the fastest in the SADC region. The party also distributed vegetable seeds, hens, goats, and mealie-meal to villagers.

NewsDay reports that before the Zaka rally, ZANU PF affiliates allegedly coerced villagers to attend the rally. Villagers who attend ZANU PF rallies are reportedly being offered fried chicken, chips, bread, bottled water, and drinks, with a local seed company providing various vegetable seeds.

ZANU PF provincial spokesperson for Masvingo, Pedzisayi Chiwewe, denied the coercion allegations, stating that all attendees come of their own volition. Meanwhile, the opposition has accused ZANU PF of abducting and victimising villagers who do not attend its rallies.

Mnangagwa Spies On Chamisa

Celebrity Endorsements – Supporting Failing and Abusive Regimes

By Ruzvidzo Chinyanganya
It’s no secret that celebrities have a lot of influence and power. Fame and fortune can be used to support causes, raise awareness about important issues, and inspire millions. However, they have a responsibility to use their platform wisely. It’s sad that some celebrities support oppressive and abusive regimes instead of standing up for human rights.
The retired American boxer Floyd Mayweather, who has an undefeated record and a lavish lifestyle, is one example. In July 2023, Mayweather is going to Zimbabwe and South Africa as part of his “Motherland Tour”. According to him, he wants to invest in Africa and promote boxing there. Wearing the Zimbabwean flag colours, he called it his “motherland”.
However, many people have questioned Mayweather’s motives. Zimbabwe is currently run by ZANU PF, which has been accused of rigging elections, violating human rights, cracking down on dissent, and mismanaging the economy. There’s a severe crisis of poverty, hunger, inflation, corruption, and violence in the country. Mayweather’s visit is reportedly sponsored by Scott Sakupwanya, a gold dealer and ZANU PF politician. In Zimbabwe, Sakupwanya has been involved in illegal gold mining and smuggling activities that have caused environmental damage.
Mayweather is allegedly being paid to endorse ZANU PF and boost its image ahead of 2023 elections. Their argument is that Mayweather only cares about making money for himself, not helping Zimbabwe or Africa. In addition, Mayweather has a history of domestic violence and tax evasion, so he’s not a good role model. For instance, in 2015, Mayweather pleaded guilty to a misdemeanour battery charge for attacking his ex-girlfriend in front of two of their children. This has led many to question why ZANU PF would choose someone with such a controversial background to promote its image. Furthermore, it has caused some to feel that ZANU PF does not take Zimbabweans’ welfare seriously.
It shows a disregard for the well-being of people affected by failing regimes like Zimbabwe when Mayweather accepts money to promote them. His indirect support of oppressive systems exacerbates vulnerable people’s suffering. As a result, he becomes complicit in the human rights abuses these regimes commit. By putting personal gain over morals, he sends a troubling message.
Celebrities like Mayweather aren’t the only ones who support controversial regimes. A lot of celebrities have faced backlash in the past for performing for or meeting with leaders like Muammar Gaddafi, Alexander LukaNursultan Nazarbayev, Kim Jong-un, and others who have been accused of human rights abuses and corruption, like Mariah Carey, Jennifer Lopez, Beyoncé, Kanye West, Lionel Messi, and Dennis Rodman.
Each of these celebrities may have a different reason for acting like they do. There are some who claim ignorance or innocence. They may argue they’re not political or they’re trying to build bridges. There are some who are just motivated by money or fame. No one can justify a regime that oppresses or exploits its own people for any of these reasons.
It can have long-lasting effects on a celebrity’s reputation if they endorse a failing regime. For instance, in 2019, singer Rihanna faced backlash for partnering with a Saudi-funded sports streaming service, which was perceived to support the country’s oppressive policies. Many fans accused her of turning a blind eye to regime human rights violations. The ethical implications of what we buy are becoming more and more relevant to consumers. Whenever celebrities align themselves with a regime known for its failings and abuses, they risk alienating their fans and losing their trust. Creating a dissonance between their image and reality makes them look untrustworthy.
It’s not cool for celebrities to support regimes that don’t respect human rights and democracy. They shouldn’t ignore or normalize the suffering and injustice these regimes inflict on their people. Whitewashing or legitimizing the crimes of these regimes isn’t okay. Fans and followers look up to them for advice and inspiration, so they shouldn’t betray them.
Celebrities should use their power and influence for good. For instance, in 2020, Ariana Grande used her platform to support a petition to demand justice for Breonna Taylor, a Black woman who was killed by police officers in her home. Support causes that promote peace, justice, freedom, and dignity. It’s their job to speak out against tyranny, corruption, violence, and exploitation. Solidarity with the oppressed and marginalized is important. It’s important that they make ethical choices and act ethically.

Zanu PF Hooligans Deface CCC Posters

Tinashe Sambiri

Unruly Zanu PF elements are destroying CCC posters in Mhondoro-Mubaira Constituency, it has emerged.

The Citizens Coalition for Change(CCC) candidate for Mhondoro-Mubaira Constituency, Hon Vengai Chivaura on Monday described Zanu PF hooligans actions as uncouth and reckless.

“Varikuvhara maposter edu nekubvarura, this is uncalled for, we have raised the matter with respective authorities but nothing has been done to address the matter,” said Hon Chivaura.

“Nhasi 17 July veZanu PF varipa Nyamweda business center pavarikuita star rally yavo saka vabvisa all our posters,” he added.

Ndoro’s Co-director Tunika Mkahanana Acquitted

By A Correspondent| Harare regional magistrate Dennis Mangosi has acquitted businessman Michael Ndoro’s partner Tunika Mkahanana on fraud charges.

The magistrate however went on to place Ndoro to his defence.

Ndoro is accused of removing his former wife, Precious Ndoro from Zororo Energy Limited directorship and replacing her with Mkahanana.

The magistrate said prejudice in this case is potential not actual since Zera did not act upon the alleged forged documents.

ZERA refused to be a complaint and testified no prejudice or damage was suffered by it.

In his ruling the magistrate said the State failed to prove a prima facie case linking Mkahanana and the alleged offence.

Ndoro was asked to answer why he had two sets of documents submitted to ZERA. One submitted in September 2018 and another in November 2021 three years later.

According to the court, Ndoro and Precious formed a firm named Zororo Energy in 2018 in which each of them held 50% shareholding.

In denying the charge, Ndoro told the court that he was the one who superintended over the registration of Zororo Energy as the company was his brain child.

He claimed that the company was registered at his instruction with the two directors and shareholders being himself and Mkahanana.

Ndoro challenged the State to avail any evidence to the contrary proving that he registered the company with Precious as a director and shareholder.

In her defence, Mkahanana told the court that she was appointed as a director of Zororo Energy company by Ndoro. Mkahanana denied any knowledge of the alleged previous registration of Zororo Energy company.

Ndoro and Mkahanana had applied for discharge.

In their application for discharge, filed by Everson Chatambudza of Rubaya and Chatambudza Lawyers, Ndoro and Mkahanana assert that there is no valid reason for them to be placed on remand.

“The two accused individuals deny the allegations completely and refute ever making any misrepresentation to ZERA. Their defense outlines have been submitted as evidence. To establish a prima facie case against them, the court called five witnesses: Precious Ndoro, Barbra Majanyama, Ashell Mundozi, Ms. Chizengeya, and Gwineth Ngoma,” stated Ndoro and Mkahanana.

According to Ndoro and Mkahanana, these two witnesses failed to prove a prima facie case against them, thus providing no grounds for the accused to present their defense.

The defense further contends that the testimonies of the five witnesses deviated from the state’s outline, which they believe can be used to draw unfavorable inferences.

They also dismissed the submissions made by Precious Ndoro, suggesting that she was a disgruntled ex-lover seeking revenge.

“During cross-examination, she never denied the existence of animosity between herself and the second accused. She even admitted to joining the second accused in divorce proceedings. It is common knowledge that she drove the police to the second accused’s residence in her car. Furthermore, it is evident that she and the first accused are involved in a messy divorce. From this context, it is alleged that she fabricated these allegations,” stated the application.

Ndoro and Mkahanana argued that the evidence presented by the state to revive the case, which they claim was already deteriorating, lacked both quality and quantity.

“The evidence provided lacks the necessary quality and quantity to warrant the accused individuals to present their defense. The state had the opportunity to present its case but instead chose to close it. It should accept the consequences of its decision and not expect the court to assist in reviving its deteriorating case,” added Ndoro and Mkahanana.

Kasukuwere Ban Has Far Reaching Implications On Zimbabweans In The Diaspora

The High Court ruling barring former Cabinet minister Saviour Kasukuwere from contesting in the August 23 polls is likely to have far-reaching implications on Zimbabweans in the diaspora who wish to participate in the upcoming elections, legal experts have warned.

Last week, Kasukuwere was disqualified from contesting the upcoming presidential race after the High Court ruled that he did not meet the criteria to contest because he has not been a resident in Zimbabwe for the past 18 months.

A Zanu PF activist, Lovedale Mangwana, successfully challenged the former Cabinet minister’s candidature on July 12 and High Court judge Justice David Mangota ruled that Kasukuwere should not be included on the ballot paper, ordering him to “stop masquerading as a candidate”.

Kasukuwere, who is in self-exile in South Africa, filed his nomination papers on June 21 to participate in the presidential poll for the first time in his political career.

Legal experts told NewsDay yesterday that the Kasukuwere ruling was a setback for Zimbabweans in the diaspora wishing to participate in the electoral process.

Legal expert Dumisani Dube said the recent court ruling had the potential of disenfranchising millions of Zimbabweans in the diaspora.

“That could be the implication of that interpretation. It can deny others a chance to vote, remember it has been challenged and most of our people in the diaspora will likely fail to participate in the election which is contrary to what the Constitution says,” Dube said.

“Remember, a right to vote is a constitutional right and no one should take it away. I don’t agree with what that judge said, as it can be used to deny others the right to vote.”

Lawyer Alec Muchadehama said the High Court failed to prove that Kasukuwere’s name was not on the voters roll.

“I do not agree with the High Court’s judgment since it failed to prove that Kasukuwere’s name was not on the voters roll and Kasukuwere’s judgment is irrelevant,” Muchadehama said.

“Well, other citizens may not be affected as this provision specifically targeted those who want to contest for the presidency. As long as ordinary citizens are on the voters roll, they can come and vote.”

Posting on Twitter, journalist and activist Hopewell Chin’ono said the ruling was a blow to the rights of Zimbabweans in the diaspora.

“Zimbabweans in South Africa and beyond, who have not been in Zimbabwe for more than 18 months, can be potentially stopped from voting if this judgment is taken to its logical conclusion.

“Political actors should treat this judgment seriously. It doesn’t affect Kasukuwere only. It is a dangerous judgment, but people are quiet,” he tweeted.

Election Resource Centre legal and advocacy officer Takunda Tsunga said registered citizens who were living abroad could participate in the electoral process if they were registered and appeared on the voters roll.

“The complexity in the judgment is that while the court deemed that Kasukuwere has not been resident in Zimbabwe for a period exceeding 18 months, there have been no indications from the (Zimbabwe) Electoral Commission that his name has been removed from the voters roll,” Tsunga said.

“The commission is the only body legally mandated to remove names from the voters roll.

There are procedures involved when removing names from the voters roll, which include the publication of the intention to remove names from the voters roll, following an investigation by the commission on the alleged absence of a person for a continuous period exceeding 18 months.

“Therefore, for registered Zimbabweans living abroad, they are still entitled to vote as there have not been any removals for absence.”

Zimbabwe Election Advocacy Trust executive director Ignatious Sadziwa said the law did not necessarily affect the voter.

“Inasmuch as section 23 of the electoral law prohibits candidates who have resided outside the country for 18 months, the law doesn’t necessarily affect the voter as long as they are not displaced from the delimitation exercise they can still participate,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court is set to hear Kasukuwere’s appeal tomorrow.

On Saturday, Supreme Court Registrar Dorothy Mwanyisa said: “Take notice that the above court application will be heard and determined by the Supreme Court of Zimbabwe at Harare on Tuesday at 9:30am or so soon thereafter as counsel may be heard.”

Last week, Kasukuwere’s chief election agent and spokesperson Jacqueline Sande vowed to “fight to the bitter end” to block the removal of the former Zanu PF commissar from the ballot paper.

“The judgment is regrettable and cannot be sustained by an appellate court,” she said.

ZEC Speaks On Elections Schedule

By- The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has announced that it was focusing on designing ballots, procuring materials, training electoral officers, and setting up command centres

ZEC also said it would be finalising postal vote logistics.

In terms of the Electoral Act, postal voting is possible for those on duty on polling day as members of the disciplined forces, electoral officers, those on duty in the service of the Government of Zimbabwe outside Zimbabwe and their spouses.
An application for a postal ballot paper must be received by the Chief Elections Officer not later than noon on the 14th day after nomination day of an election.
This means that for the upcoming harmonised elections, the Commission stopped receiving applications for postal ballot before noon on July 5.
The electoral body last week distributed the national voters’ register to all Presidential election candidates and is on Thursday expected to release the voters roll to all National Assembly and Local Authority candidates.
In addition, according to its elections calendar, ZEC will next month publish lists of polling stations, conduct elections at the National Council of Chiefs and elect its president and deputy president for their Senate seats, close receipt of postal vote ballots and hold its second observers’ briefing.
ZEC vice chairperson, Ambassador Rodney Kiwa, told The Herald that following the release of the voters’ roll, the electoral body was working on the postal vote.
He said it was worth noting that postal voting would not take place at any designated polling station, hence there will be no election agents or observers.
“Postal ballots are sent to qualifying applicants either by post, commercial courier service or through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or commanding officers for delivery to the applicant,” said Mr Kiwa.
“Upon receipt of the postal ballots, the applicant will then indicate the candidate for whom they wish to vote for by putting a cross against their candidate’s name and this is done in secret.
“Thereafter they will place their ballots in provided envelopes, seal them and dispatch them back to the chief elections officers. On delivery, the Chief Elections Officer will distribute them to the appropriate polling stations where they will be placed in the ordinary ballot boxes and counted along with rest of the ballots cast on election day.”
Mr Kiwa dismissed allegations by the opposition that the release of the voters’ roll to candidates was skewed in the ruling Zanu PF’s favour as baseless.
Contestants will only receive voters’ rolls specific to their areas of contest.
“The comment on that is that at ZEC we do not do politics,” he said.
August 16 will see the dispatching of postal votes to constituencies and will be the last day for submission of names of roving agents.
August 18 will be the day printed ballot papers will be published with closure of receipt of applications for observer accreditation on the following day.
Zanu PF has already clinched 91 council wards after opposition political parties failed to field candidates at the close of the Nomination Court sitting.
The ruling party successfully fielded candidates in all the 210 seats for the National Assembly and 1 970 local authority seats, while the opposition CCC party was marred by confusion leading to the fielding of double candidates and in some instances triple candidates in several constituencies.
It fielded double candidates in 20 parliamentary constituencies, with 15 of them appearing in Harare, three in Bulawayo, one in Mashonaland East Province and one in Mashonaland West Province. Herald

Bafana Bafana Target World Cup Qualification

South Africa national team coach Hugo Broos believes his side has a chance of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup after learning their opponents in the qualifiers following Thursday’s draw.

Bafana Bafana were drawn in Group C along with neighbours Zimbabwe and Lesotho, Rwanda, Benin and Nigeria.

“The away games will be very important in a group like ours, but now a little bit more because we have five difficult away games for different reasons,” he told www.safa.net.

“I think it is possible for South Africa to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup first in the group. If you see the progress we have made in the last two years, you cannot compare those qualifiers (for the 2026 World Cup) with the qualifiers for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. We are better now, we have a better team now. So okay, I am confident.”

How To Excel In Mining

1 treat mining like business

In business you invest with the aim of making profit long term and sustainable. Inorder to do that just make a small informal business by listing what you need with exact value don’t forget to include monitoring expenses identify a claim close to you or never invest . If you are still tempted to invest far increase scope of investment so that all you will be able to all final production activities month end .
2 nothing can replace your presence
Gold is a currency that can be used without any purification or processing and around Zimbabwe you find gold nuggets of 5points upto 10kg your absence means you won’t be able to see it or account for production done using your own money. Be there from day one study everything learn all risks and rewards.

Your kids , wife and relatives are not you they can steal from you infact most gold related theft or lack of accountability is orchestrated by related especially the son or daughter in most cases l have come across.

Besides stealing they usually unknowingly disturb or sabotage production in the name of relative. All gold production ends are guarded by mine owner , sponsors or investors and workers nothing is left to chance.

3 avoid overspending on monitoring
Avoid driving up and down to the mine in the name of monitoring because it’s useless and unnecessary unless you spend atleast 6hrs of day time at the mine use public transport and avoid hiring transport for transactions that don’t need a car .

If you want to use a car increase your investment scope to accommodate the car .when ever gold pays you handsomely remember they are dark days ahead plan wisely and create proper backup.

Nelson Chamisa Is Zimbabwe’s Next Leader

CCC
We have unwavering confidence that President Nelson Chamisa will be the next President of the New Great Zimbabwe, come August 23, 2023.

The regime in Harare is well aware of this fact, which is why they consistently pressure our innocent police officers into banning our rallies whenever we schedule them featuring President Chamisa.

Zanu PF is clearly in a state of panic.

However, nothing can impede the arrival of change when its time has come.

About First Aid

First aid should can be offered by anyone but ideally trained personnel to give first aid should offer first aid.

When offering first aid always consider your personal safety first.

Look out for any dangers and only act when you are confident it is safe to do so.

An unresponsive person is someone not moving or responding when you call them or when gently shaken.

Respiratory emergencies & CPR

Check if breathing by tilting their head back and looking and feeling for breaths.

When a person is unresponsive, their muscles relax and their tongue can block their airway so they can no longer breathe. Tilting their head back opens the airway by pulling the tongue forward. If they are breathing, you will see their chest moving and you may hear their breath or feel it on your cheek. If breathing, move on to step two.

Move them onto their side and tilt their head back. Putting them in this position with their head back helps keep their airway open. It ensures their tongue falls forward and blood and vomit drain out. It is sometimes called the “recovery position”.

Call for help or an ambulance as soon as possible.
If the patient needs CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation), place the person on their back on a firm, flat surface and start giving chest compressions aiming for 30compressions in 1minute.
How to do CPR
Hand position: Two hands centered on the chest
Body position: Shoulders directly over hands; elbows locked
Depth: At least 5cm
Allow chest to return to normal position after every chest compression.
5 Give 2 rescue breaths (if equipment to do that available). Ensure each breath lasts about 1 second and makes the chest rise; allow air to exit before giving the next breath.

Gas leak, Fire & Burns

Turn off gas if safe to do
Evacuate the area immediately
Do not switch any lights or start an open flame
If there is fire use a fire extinguisher to stop the fire from spreading and ring the fire alarm alerting everyone to evacuate the building.
If someone is on fire remove the person from the source of fire, drop and roll him or her over or cover him or her with a fire blanket.
Cool burn under running water
Protect the burn with sterile, non-adhesive bandage (DO NOT APPLY BUTTER OR OINTMENTS)
Do not break blisters
Call for an ambulance and send to hospital
Chemical spill

Remove spoiled clothing
If skin or eyes affected rinse immediately with clean running water
If ingested do not induce vomiting and do not give water or mi unless told to d so by a health professional.
If inhaled move the person to fresh air and give oxygen if available.
After first aid is given send to hospital as soon as possible.

Tragedy Strikes: Gas Accident Claims Lives of Four Family Members

Lushongwe Village in Gwanda, Zimbabwe, was plunged into grief and sorrow as the community mourned the loss of four family members who tragically lost their lives in a gas accident. Mrs Clester Ndlovu (26), her four-year-old son, Learnmore, her sister Mrs Siziwe Nyathi (21), and her daughter, Thembelihle (2), were among the 17 victims who perished due to gas inhalation at an informal settlement in Boksburg, located outside Johannesburg, South Africa. The incident, which occurred on July 6 in Angelo’s Squatter Camp, has brought Zimbabwe to a standstill, leaving family and friends devastated.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that the toxic gas responsible for the fatalities was being utilized by illegal miners to extract what they believed to be gold from the soil. Angelo’s Squatter Camp, known for its long-standing issue of illegal mining activities, has been plagued by the presence of gold and coal miners who operate in abandoned mine shafts spanning hundreds of kilometers.

The victims, including Mrs Ndlovu, her son, and Mrs Nyathi and her daughter, were found within a 100-meter radius of the scene. The tragic circumstances of their deaths have left the community grappling with the harsh reality of losing their loved ones.

In a heart-wrenching scene, mourners could not contain their grief as the four coffins were solemnly removed from the hearses. The weight of the loss was palpable as relatives and friends struggled to come to terms with the sudden departure of their beloved family members.

On a somber Saturday afternoon, the four victims were laid to rest at their rural homes in Lushongwe Village in Gwanda. Mrs Ndlovu and her son were buried at her father’s homestead, while Mrs Nyathi and her daughter found their final resting place at her maternal grandmother’s homestead. The emotional funerals served as a reminder of the deep void left behind by their untimely deaths.

Mrs Ndlovu’s surviving children, aged three months and eight years, were shielded from the deadly gas by their father, Mr Patrick Ndlovu, who covered them with a blanket. This act likely minimized the amount of toxic gas they inhaled. Mr Ndlovu himself was hospitalized for five days due to the incident.

Sharing his harrowing experience, Mr Ndlovu described returning home to the distressing sounds of wailing and a foul smell emanating from one of the shacks. He discovered his wife and children lying on the floor, including their three-month-old baby and the two older children. Acting swiftly, he placed the infant on the bed and covered her with a blanket before instructing his eight-year-old son to do the same.

Regrettably, Mr Ndlovu lost consciousness and later awoke in a hospital bed. It was then that he learned of the tragic deaths of his wife and their four-year-old son at the scene.

The incident also affected those who came to pay their respects the following day. Mr Ndlovu’s cousin, Ms Siphokuhle Ncube, recounted the lingering presence of the poisonous gas in the air, even though it had subsided. To navigate the area safely, masks had to be worn.

Mr Zwelihle Nyathi, the grandfather of the two deceased women, expressed the profound pain of losing family members in such a tragic incident. He described his grandchildren as young souls, leaving behind a tremendous responsibility for the family to care for their children. The loss has devastated the entire family, leaving a void that cannot be filled.

The Zimbabwean Embassy in South Africa extended its assistance to the grieving family, facilitating the repatriation of the bodies. Additionally, support from the Zimbabwe consulate in Johannesburg ensured the processing of necessary documents and covered the costs of repatriation.

Community members in Gwanda rallied together to provide support and resources to the bereaved family. Their efforts, combined with the intervention of the Zimbabwean Government led by President Mnangagwa, brought much-needed relief during this painful period. Cde Lungisani Ncube, the Zanu-PF candidate for Gwanda North Constituency, expressed gratitude for the support received, noting that repatriating bodies from South Africa often poses significant challenges.

The horrific incident unfolded when gas leaked from a cylinder that was being tampered with by a group of illegal miners, who intended to use the gas for processing gold. Reports from South African media and witnesses indicate that the gas bottle, which leaked, had been stolen from a local company in the area.

As the grieving community continues to mourn the loss of the four family members, this tragedy serves as a stark reminder of the dangers associated with illegal mining activities and the need for comprehensive safety measures to prevent similar accidents in the future.

Mnangagwa Says Blair’s Promised To Reverse Sanctions On Tagwirei

Analyzing the Credibility of Emmerson Mnangagwa’s Presumptuous Announcement on Tony Blair’s Alleged Reversal of Statements

By Farai D Hove | Emmerson Mnangagwa, the President of Zimbabwe, recently made a hasty and presumptuous announcement claiming that former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair had pledged to reverse his own statements regarding human rights violations and crimes committed by Mnangagwa and his ZANU PF party. According to Mnangagwa, Blair agreed to lobby for the removal of sanctions imposed against Zimbabwe. However, given the lack of official confirmation from Blair or the British government, it is important to critically analyze the credibility of Mnangagwa’s claims.

Contextualizing the Announcement

President Mnangagwa made these remarks during a rally in Zaka district while campaigning for the upcoming harmonized elections. The timing of this announcement raises questions about the political motivations behind the statement. It is not uncommon for politicians to make grandiose claims during election campaigns to gain support or divert attention from domestic issues. Therefore, it is crucial to approach such statements with skepticism until they are substantiated by reliable sources.

Lack of Independent Verification

One of the key concerns regarding Mnangagwa’s announcement is the absence of any independent verification or official response from Tony Blair or the British government. The credibility of such statements relies on reliable sources and verifiable evidence. Without official confirmation or a response from Blair, it is challenging to determine the validity of Mnangagwa’s claims. The lack of transparency undermines the credibility of his assertions.

Political Motivations

Given the strained relationship between Zimbabwe and Western countries, including the United Kingdom, it is crucial to consider the potential political motivations behind Mnangagwa’s announcement. By claiming that Blair has reversed his stance on sanctions, Mnangagwa aims to project an image of improved international relations and garner support from the electorate. Political leaders often use diplomatic achievements or promises of foreign support as a means to boost their popularity. Consequently, it is essential to critically evaluate such claims in the broader political context.

Contradictory Claims and Lack of Evidence

Mnangagwa’s statement linking Blair’s alleged support for sanctions with the Iraq invasion by the United States raises further concerns about the credibility of his claims. The lack of evidence to support these assertions casts doubt on the veracity of Mnangagwa’s narrative. Furthermore, drawing a connection between unrelated events without substantial evidence can be seen as an attempt to manipulate public opinion rather than presenting factual information.

Engagement and Re-engagement Policy

Mnangagwa’s mention of Zimbabwe’s engagement and re-engagement policy, aimed at improving relations with the international community, may also be viewed as an attempt to lend credibility to his announcement. However, without concrete evidence or official statements from the relevant parties involved, it remains difficult to ascertain the effectiveness or impact of this policy. Assertions made solely for political gain can undermine the credibility of a leader and their government.

Conclusion

Emmerson Mnangagwa’s announcement regarding Tony Blair’s alleged reversal of statements on Zimbabwe’s sanctions lacks credible evidence and independent verification. The absence of any official response from Blair or the British government further undermines the credibility of the claim. In evaluating the credibility of such statements, it is essential to consider the political motivations, the lack of substantiating evidence, and the broader context in which they are made. Without robust evidence and official confirmation, it is prudent to approach these claims with skepticism and await further developments before drawing any definitive conclusions.

THE church under the banner of the Zimbabwe Council of Churches has converged to pray for social cohesion, economic stability and unity as the country heads to the August 23 general elections.

The churches came together in Bulawayo this Saturday to seek divine intervention in the pursuit of a peaceful general election.

The programme included ball games for the youths, free medical services and live musical performances.

CCC aspiring MP for Mhondoro-Mubaira Constituency, Hon Vengai Chivaura is determined to end Zanu PF’s dominance.

Hon Chivaura says his objective is to ensure CCC leader, President Nelson Chamisa’s victory in Mhondoro-Mubaira and beyond.

“We are targeting resounding victory for the People’s President Advocate Nelson Chamisa.

Zanu PF hooligans are desperate to obstruct our march to the promised land.

We have noted with grave concern that agents of the regime are defacing our posters.

However, we are determined to win regardless of intimidation and relentless attempts to disrupt our programmes, ” Hon Chivaura declared.

Conducting First Aid

Mining: Have The Right Approach

Chamisa Supporter Arrested In Karoi

By- A Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) activist spent a night in police cells in Karoi on Thursday after she was arrested for allegedly calling a Zanu PF supporter a prostitute.Consider Chidimure appeared before Karoi magistrate, Moreblessing Makati, facing charges of criminal insult as defined under the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act.
According to the State, on July 6 Chidumure asked Yolanda Hannock to accompany her to Muzondiwa Savanje’s homestead to collect CCC regalia.
Savanje is the CCC candidate for Ward 9 in Chiedza.
Chidumire gave Hannock CCC T-shirts.
Later that day, Hannock had a change of heart and returned the regalia saying she supported Zanu PF.
Four days later on July 10, Hannock was with her netball teammates at Chiedza grounds when Chidimure confronted her for refusing to wear CCC regalia and allegedly insulted her calling her a prostitute and describing Zanu PF as a useless party.

Zanu PF Candidate Dies Before Elections

By- A Zanu-PF candidate for Vungu Rural District in the Midlands Province has died, barely a month before the harmonised elections.

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has therefore terminated the election proceedings for the ward and is preparing for fresh nominations to replace the deceased candidate, as per Section 127 of the Electoral Act (Chapter 2:13).

ZEC has confirmed the death of Mtangi Muyambo, who was a candidate for the Zanu-PF party in Ward 14 of Vungu Rural District Council. The affected party must now nominate another candidate to replace the deceased.

In a statement yesterday, Mr Utoile Silaigwana ZEC Chief Elections Officer said following the death of a candidate, the affected party must then nominate another to replace the deceased. He said:

It is hereby notified in terms of Section 127 of the Electoral Act (Chapter 2:13) that, Mtangi Muyambo a candidate for the Zanu-PF party in Ward 14 of Vungu Rural District Council died before the commencement of polls on the 23rd of August 2023.

Accordingly, proceedings in respect of the election for Ward 14 of Vungu Rural District Council are terminated. A nomination court calling for fresh nominations of candidates for election to the said ward shall sit on a date to be advised by the Commission.

According to Zimbabwe’s Electoral Act, if a presidential candidate dies before the day of the election, only the presidential election would be stopped, and the other elections would proceed as planned. In such a case, a new nomination court must be established within 14 days of the candidate’s death, and the election must be held within 30 and 63 days after the nomination court meets.

If a constituency candidate dies after nomination and before the close of polling, all proceedings to fill the seat for the constituency will be stopped. The constituency will elect a candidate after the general election using the same process used for a by-election.

If a party-list candidate dies before ZEC announces the results of the party-list election, ZEC must fill the vacancy with the next person on the party list or invite the political party entitled to fill the seat to make a fresh nomination.

If an urban or rural district council candidate dies after nomination and before the close of polling, all proceedings in the election to fill the seat for the ward concerned will be stopped. The ward will elect a candidate after the general election using the same process used for a by-election.

The Electoral Act also allows for candidates to withdraw from the election. The rules for withdrawal differ for presidential candidates, National Assembly constituency candidates and local authority candidates, and party-list candidates.

4 Convincing Reasons Why Millions of Africans are Flocking to Forex Trading

Today, more than ever, Africans are taking a deeper interest in income-generating activities like forex trading. While advancement and increased technological access have made this possible, drastic financial literacy has also contributed immensely.

Millions of Africans are trading forex, and here are some convincing reasons why.

1.   Increasing Financial Literacy

Gone are the days when Africa was associated with high illiteracy. Although a small percentage of this issue persists, many Africans can read and write. Moreover, a considerable chunk of the population is financially literate.

The rise in financial literacy can be attributed to several factors, including increased access to information. Many Africans own digital devices and have access to the internet, which are indispensable in forex trading.

2.   Widespread Internet Use

Presently, the African continent has over half a billion internet users. Several factors have made that possible. These include affordable mobile technology and improved infrastructure.

Affordable smartphones and other digital gadgets have made Africa the fastest-growing market. Since pocket-friendly devices are available, people in droves are buying them. Moreover, telecommunication companies invest heavily in excellent infrastructure, encouraging widespread internet use.

Increasing internet use allows more Africans to discover forex trading and educate themselves before entering the industry. It allows interested individuals to join reputable trading platforms and execute trades.

3.   Low Entry Threshold

Admittedly, poverty is a menace in Africa. By 2021 around 490 million people lived below the $190-a-day poverty line. This issue can be linked to various sources, including dwindling natural resources, corrupt governments, and natural disasters.

Despite Africa having many poor people, forex trading is still widespread. That is because some trading platforms allow people to join and start executing trades with as little as 1 US dollar. That makes it easier for many Africans with little income.

Moreover, there’s been a considerable spike in middle-class Africans, thanks to economic growth in some countries, improved education, and urbanization. And as more of the continent’s residents join the middle class, they become more aware of financial investments like forex trading and are better positioned to invest.

4.   Convenient Schedule

The worldwide forex market is open 24 hours a day, from Monday to Friday. Many Africans have discovered this amazing feature and are exploiting it to the maximum. For instance, some trade throughout the day, while nine-to-fivers do it in the evening after leaving formal employment.

Forex’s operating hours encourage more Africans to exploit positions without compromising their lifestyles. Also, the different trading sessions, including Tokyo, London, New York, and Sidney, make trading more convenient by letting traders choose time zones that suit their needs and preferences.

Final Input

Besides conventional options like mining, Africans in droves participate in other rewarding activities like forex trading. Thanks to aspects like better internet connectivity and increased financial literacy.

If you believe you have what it takes to trade forex, join the industry. But ensure you are knowledgeable and have access to a good broker and trading platform.

Good luck.

UK Parliament Grinds to A Standstill As CCC Leader Exposes CoS Exploitation by British Zim Employers

By Simba Chikanza | ZimEye | London, July 16, 2023 – In a shocking turn of events, Barbara Gwangwara Tanyanyiwa, a leader in the Citizen Coalition for Change (CCC), brought a UK parliamentary committee session to a standstill as she exposed widespread exploitation by Zimbabwean British employers against employees classified under the CoS (Certificates Of Sponsorship) cluster. The incident occurred on Tuesday during a highly anticipated session titled “How To Fix The UK’s Crisis Of Care,” which drew a cross-section of peer leaders from across the country. The parliamentary committee meeting took place in the House Committee.

Tensions ran high in the chamber as the CCC leader took the floor, captivating everyone’s attention with her impassioned speech that lasted four minutes. With each word she uttered, the atmosphere became increasingly tense, leading to an unprecedented silence that gripped the entire house. Tanyanyiwa’s jaw-dropping revelations concluded with a damning statement: “There is modern-day slavery in the industry.”

The gravity of her allegations reverberated throughout the chamber, leaving lawmakers and attendees stunned. Tanyanyiwa’s revelations shed light on a disturbing reality faced by a significant number of employees within the CoS cluster, who have fallen victim to exploitative practices perpetrated by their British employers. These practices, according to Tanyanyiwa, amount to nothing short of crimes against humanity.

Adding to the urgency of the matter, the CCC leader highlighted the influx of tens of thousands of black jobseekers into the UK since the onset of the pandemic. Many of these individuals sought opportunities that, unfortunately, turned out to be nonexistent. The situation is aptly summarized in the Shona adage “There is no sugar cane at all in the UK job fields.”

To make matters worse, it was revealed that these jobseekers had paid exorbitant CoS fees, with some amounts reaching GBP10,000, only to discover the harsh reality after relocating to the UK. Despite their hopes of saving a substantial portion of their earnings, many found themselves unable to accumulate even GBP700 from their employment, leading to immense disappointment and financial hardship.

Some employers are paying workers a paltry, GBP3.50 which 200% below the minimum wage. Others are subjecting employees to illegal long hours without breaks.

Barbara Tanyanyiwa also heads the newly formed Pan African Workers Association (PAWA). This latest revelation has further galvanized support for PAWA, as they aim to protect the rights and interests of African workers in the UK.

The consequences of Tanyanyiwa’s explosive speech are yet to be fully realized, but one thing is clear: the shocking expose has ignited a firestorm of public outrage, demanding immediate action to rectify the exploitative practices taking place within the CoS cluster.

The allegations made by the CCC leader have the potential to reshape labour practices and regulations in the UK, providing a ray of hope for those affected by these gross violations of human rights.

The citizens of the UK and the international community at large will be watching closely as the story continues to develop. The plight of the exploited workers demands urgent attention, and the consequences for British employers found guilty of these crimes may be severe.

Armed Robbers Attack Catholic Priests, Steal US$1 300

By- Armed robbers have attacked Catholic priests at two Bulawayo Roman Catholic Church premises and stole more than US$1 300.

On Thursday night, these armed robbers held the priests hostage, before getting away with cash and property.

The suspects used machetes to attack the Roman Catholic Holy Trinity Parish, where they took US$1,200 and South African rands. They also targeted the House of Liberty Christian Church and stole valuable property.

The priests were handcuffed during the attack, but they were not severely injured. Narrating the ordeal, Gilbert Moyresident Priest at Holy Trinity Parish, said the suspects forced their way into their residence and handcuffed them.

Four armed robbers attacked us at around 2am this morning. They used the back door to enter.

They handcuffed me and a student priest who is also resident here.

They stole an Isuzu vehicle, Samsung cell phone, a cash box containing US$1,200 and R2,500, a wallet with my (driver’s) licence and cash amounting to US$120.

As soon as they left, we went to the police to report.

They were carrying machetes and axes, among other metal weapons. Fortunately, we sustained minor injuries.

Acting Bulawayo provincial spokesperson Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele confirmed the incidents and explained that the robbers were armed with a machete, iron bar, and a kitchen knife. Msebele also advised churches to protect their premises and avoid keeping large sums of money within their properties. Msebele said during the attack, a female resident at House of Liberty Christian Church was accosted by three armed robbers in the church’s residence at around 1:30 am. She said:

They assaulted her with a fist on the face, threatening to kill her and went on to demand cash from her.

The accused persons force-marched the complainant into her bedroom and ransacked the house.

This attack is the latest in a series of similar robberies on Roman Catholic churches and schools in Bulawayo, with 20 incidents recorded in the last 12 months.

Kasukuwere US$ 1Bln Cheque Towards Gukurahundi Compensation Mind Blowing

Israel Dube | We note that Saviour Kasukuwere has made history by becoming the first Zimbabwean politician of Shona origin to find it appropriate not only to recognise Matabeleland genocide but to pay reparations thereof to the tune of US$ 1 billion.

MLO welcomes such a positive gesture with open arms. Saviour Kasukuwere has demonstrated political maturity that has stunned us and even made us begin to change our political views about him. He is a step in the right direction and miles ahead of Emmerson Mnangagwa of Zanupf and Nelson Chamisa of CCC.

On one hand, Mnangagwa believes that murdering more innocent Matabeles to silence them from speaking out on Matabele genocide and Matabeleland restoration is the solution. On the other, Nelson Chamisa views himself as God chosen for Matabeleland that his mere ascension to the office of Zimbabwe President would automatically render Matabeleland political grievances solved.

Zimbabwe’s political and economic crises need someone like Saviour Kasukuwere who thinks outside the Shona supremacist box. We are left with no doubt whatsoever as to why Kasukuwere was late President Mugabe’s preferred successor ahead of his coup like Deputy, Mnangagwa.

However, we realise with sadness that out of all our demands, Kasukuwere has chosen to pay attention to one demand ie Matabeleland genocide compensation and ignored the demand for Matabeleland restoration which is the main one. These two demands are mutually inclusive therefore you cannot attend to one and ignore the other. In addition, the US$ 1 billion that you have offered as reparations for Matabele genocide is way too little.

Our non – negotiable demands to the Shona supremacist government of Zimbabwe regardless of the outcome of the August 2023 elections remain binding to all successive Zimbabwe governments until all our demands are fully met as follows:

1.0 Unconditionally withdraw trumped up treason charges and cancel warrant of arrest against MLO President, Cde Paul Siwela with immediate effect

1.1 Restoration of Kingdom of Matebeleland that would join the family of nations as The Republic of Matebeleland

1.2 Payment of one hundred billion United States Dollars ie US$100 billion Reparations for Matebeleland Genocide, gross abuse of human rights and looting of Matebeleland resources

Having said that, we are of the view that Saviour Kasukuwere can be the saviour of Zimbabwe and deliver the birth of The Republic of Matabeleland and as such we stand ready to reciprocate his overtures in that direction.

Did ZEC Release A Transparent Voters’ Roll?

By Fred Matenge | The forthcoming elections in Zimbabwe are an important event for the nation’s democratic process. The release of a reliable and transparent voters’ roll is crucial to ensure a fair and credible electoral outcome. However, concerns have been raised regarding the actions of the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC), particularly in relation to the encryption and limited analyzability of the distributed voters’ roll. This article aims to analyze whether the ZEC can be trusted to release a reliable voters’ roll, taking into account the recent developments and preparations for the upcoming elections.

Transparency and Accountability

Transparency and accountability are essential components of a fair electoral process. In any democratic society, it is crucial for the electoral management body to provide all candidates with accessible and analyzable copies of the voters’ roll. The recent distribution of an encrypted voters’ roll to Presidential election candidates raises concerns about the ZEC’s commitment to transparency. Candidates must have the ability to scrutinize the roll to ensure its accuracy and integrity.

Limited Analyzability of the Voters’ Roll

The decision to provide candidates with copies of the voters’ roll specific to their contesting areas seems to limit the overall analyzability of the roll. A comprehensive and easily accessible voters’ roll allows candidates to identify potential irregularities, such as duplicate or ineligible voters, ensuring a fair and transparent electoral process. Limiting the analyzability of the roll by providing segmented versions to candidates may hinder their ability to detect and address any discrepancies effectively.

Postal Voting and Recruitment of Election Officials

The ZEC’s ongoing processing of postal voting applications and the recruitment of election officials are important aspects of the electoral process. However, it is crucial to ensure that the selection and training of election officials are conducted with utmost integrity and professionalism. The public’s trust in the ZEC’s ability to recruit unbiased and competent personnel plays a significant role in the overall credibility of the elections.

Procurement of Voting Materials

The ZEC’s assurance that the procurement of essential election materials, such as ballot papers, indelible ink, marking pens, and ballot boxes, is almost complete is a positive sign for the forthcoming elections. The availability and proper management of these materials are critical to ensure that the voting process is conducted smoothly and without irregularities. The ZEC must uphold transparency in the procurement process and provide timely updates on the total number of printed ballot papers, as required by the Electoral Act.

Foreign Observer Missions and Polling Stations

The accreditation of foreign observer missions is an important step towards ensuring the transparency and credibility of the electoral process. Their presence contributes to an impartial assessment of the elections. It is encouraging that eight foreign observer missions have applied for accreditation, demonstrating an international interest in Zimbabwe’s electoral affairs.

The publication of the final list of polling stations early next month is essential for voters to familiarize themselves with their assigned voting locations. The timely release of this information allows for effective planning and ensures that voters can exercise their right to participate in the electoral process.

While the recent actions of the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission regarding the encryption and limited analyzability of the voters’ roll raise concerns, it is important to closely monitor the forthcoming developments. The ZEC must demonstrate its commitment to transparency, accountability, and the integrity of the electoral process. Ensuring a reliable and accessible voters’ roll, unbiased recruitment and training of election officials, and transparent procurement of voting materials are essential steps toward a credible and fair election in Zimbabwe. The eyes of the nation and the international community will be watching closely to assess the ZEC’s performance and its impact on the democratic process in the country.

Mapeza Speaks On Lifting Of ZIFA Ban

FC Platinum coach Norman Mapeza believes football fans can fully celebrate the lifting of FIFA’s suspension on Zimbabwe, once it has been confirmed that national teams will play home games in the country.

On Monday, FIFA lifted Zimbabwe’s suspension and appointed a four-member normalisation committee to run the day to day affairs of the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) until at least June next year.

The development comes at a time when Zimbabwe has no stadium fit to host international matches as the biggest facility in the country —the National Sports Stadium —was flagged down by CAF in November 2021 for not having set international standards.

Mapeza —who was the last national team coach before the suspension when he took to the Warriors to the 2021 Afcon finals in Cameroon —reckons Zimbabwe’s long-awaited return to the international community cannot be fully celebrated as long as there is no assurance that national team games will be played in the country.

“I’m still worried if you look at our stadiums issue at the moment. I understand the games will be played in November,” Mapeza said ahead of his side’s Castle Lager Premier Soccer League game against Yadah at Mandava Stadium tomorrow.

“I was reading the paper today (yesterday) and our Minister of Sport (Kirsty Coventry) said maybe within the next three or four weeks, the National Sports Stadium will be done.

“So it means maybe the bucket seats will be there because it will be unfortunate for us to get the reprieve but we end up relocating to South Africa to play our World Cup qualifiers there.

“People want to watch football, look at the support the cricket team was getting. We also need that type of support in our football.

“The stadia issue needs to be fixed first then maybe we can start saying: “We are back in it now.” But for the time being, it’s still a 50-50 situation. We are in, but where are we going to play the football?

“But apart from that, I think everybody is happy, we are all excited that we have been given the reprieve and we just hope everything goes well for us,” added Mapeza.

The former Zimbabwe captain could not be drawn into discussing the possibility of him becoming the next Warriors coach.

“That will be a story for another day,” said Mapeza.

Meanwhile, Zimbabwe were placed in Group C in the 2026 FIFA World Cup African qualifiers in the draw held yesterday.

The Warriors will compete for a place at the global extravaganza with Nigeria, South Africa, Benin, Rwanda and Lesotho.

African teams were placed in nine groups and the group winners will automatically qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the United States and Mexico.- Soccer24 News

Warriors Face Super Eagles

Yadah Football Club owner and Prophetic Healing and Deliveance Ministries leader Prophet Walter Magaya, believes the 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign is the best ever opportunity the Warriors have had, to book a place at the global spectacle.

FIFA lifted the suspension imposed on Zimbabwe for ‘third party interference’ on Monday, three days before the draw for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers for Africa was held in Côte d’Ivoire.

Qualification for the global extravaganza has eluded Zimbabwe since independence in 1980.

Prophet Magaya —who used to inject thousands of dollars into the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) coffers in support of national teams —both men and women —believes the Warriors can book a place at the World Cup.

Speaking at the Yadah FC unveiling of three Brazilian players at Yadah Hotel yesterday, Prophet Magaya said the group Zimbabwe been placed in —Group C —which includes Nigeria, South Africa, Benin, Rwanda and Lesotho —is an advantageous one for the Warriors.

“Yesterday I prayed when the draw was happening and I think we got the teams that I was wishing for,” said Prophet Magaya.

“On a good day, Nigeria will not beat us home and away, trust me. South Africa, we all know the history, they won’t beat us home and away either.

“So in such a case, I’m very certain that this is our golden chance to qualify (for the FIFA World Cup) more than any other time,” he added.

The football-mad prophet also showed great enthusiasm over the appointment of a four-member normalisation committee put in place by FIFA to run the day to affairs of ZIFA until June 2024.

“I’m very excited over the normalisation committee appointed, which is headed by Mr. Lincoln Mutasa, who I’m told attended the the draw for the World Cup qualifiers,” said Prophet Magaya.

“I said to myself in my prayer: “Lord please let me meet him (Mutasa).” My wish is to meet him and greet him, as well as share with him my little football vision that can make us qualify, because we need to qualify.

“My dream is to see Zimbabwe qualify for the FIFA World Cup and I will do whatever it takes and pray in any other way that I should, to make sure that is achievable.

Prophet Magaya reckons football stakeholders should speak in one voice as far as the Warriors’ World Cup qualifying campaign is concerned.

“We all need to come together, from the people at the Premier Socceer League, as well as everyone else involved,” he said.

“We should also make use of knowledgeable people like our team manager (Wellington Mpandare), who is connected to almost every Zimbabwean player across the world. We should bring all those kids who went to England when they were four or five years old,” added Prophet Magaya.

The popular prophet also confirmed that Yadah Hotel will also open its doors to the national team, as was the case before, should there be a need.

“Once we would have assembled a team, we just need to give the players enough camp time. We also availed Yadah Hotel for that, and we will keep on doing so. We will keep improving the place so as to accommodate the national team,” said Prophet Magaya.

“Our hands are open, my team at Yadah Hotel is always ready to host the boys (the Warriors).

“If there is a better place, let’s all help each other to send them there, so that they can practice and be ready for this very important assignment (the World Cup qualifiers),” he added.-Soccer24 News

USD1 Million Vanishes from Nat Foods Accounts

Massive Cybercrime Uncovered: Zimbabwe’s Nat Foods Parastatal Falls Victim to Multi-Million Dollar Fraud

The state-owned Sunday Mail aligned with the ruling party ZANU PF, has claimed a significant victory in uncovering a major fraud that cost the country’s National Foods parastatal nearly a million dollars. The paper reports that a team of investigators from the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) and the police’s commercial crime department conducted extraterritorial investigations into what is believed to be one of the largest cybercrimes ever reported in the country. The investigation yielded some promising results, with substantial amounts of money recovered and assets seized.

The Cybercrime:
According to the Sunday Mail, the fraud involved cybercriminals who managed to gain unauthorized access to National Foods’ computer systems. The criminals initiated an intricate phishing scam by sending an email that appeared to be from a South African financial institution to the company’s finance manager. Upon opening the email, the company’s computer system was corrupted, granting the fraudsters access to sensitive information and authorization for financial transactions.

The Investigation and Recovered Assets:
After detecting the cybercrime, law enforcement agencies swiftly launched an investigation. The team of investigators, consisting of members from the NPA and the police’s commercial crime department, traveled to South Africa to pursue extraterritorial inquiries. Despite facing some challenges due to delayed paperwork, the investigators managed to trace and recover approximately R15 million (equivalent to about US$800,000).

Additionally, authorities seized a mansion in South Africa believed to have been purchased using the ill-gotten funds. The South African Asset Forfeiture Unit, with the assistance of its Zimbabwean counterparts, obtained a court order freezing the bank accounts and properties suspected to be connected to the crime. The investigation further revealed that an additional R5 million was located in South Africa, and some funds were traced to a bank in Namibia.

Challenges and Future Plans:
While the investigation team was unable to interview the suspected foreign hackers during their initial visit to South Africa, they are planning a return trip to pursue further inquiries. Authorities remain committed to bringing all those involved in the cybercrime to justice and recovering the remaining stolen funds.

The Impact on National Foods:
National Foods, a prominent local manufacturer and marketer of food products, claims to have suffered a loss of US$1.4 million due to the cyberattack. The incident has highlighted the vulnerability of businesses to sophisticated cybercrimes and the importance of robust cybersecurity measures to protect sensitive financial information.

Conclusion:
The recent uncovering of a large-scale cybercrime targeting Zimbabwe’s National Foods parastatal demonstrates the ever-growing threat of cyberattacks faced by businesses and organizations worldwide. The efforts of the investigative team, despite encountering some challenges, have resulted in the recovery of significant amounts of money and the seizure of assets. The ongoing investigation, coupled with plans for further inquiries, signifies the commitment of law enforcement agencies to bring the perpetrators to justice and mitigate the financial impact on the affected company. This incident serves as a stark reminder for businesses to remain vigilant and implement stringent cybersecurity measures to safeguard their financial and operational integrity.
