By-Over 2 200 nurses and doctors have left Zimbabwe for greener pastures in 2021 alone.
The US, UK, Australia, and neighbouring states absorbed these health professionals.
According to the government’s Health Service Board (HSB), the figures are more than double the number of doctors, nurses and pharmacists who left last year, and three times the number that left in 2019.
In 2019 – a total of 767 health professionals left the country while the figure was 756 in 2018.
HSB executive chairperson Paulinus Sikosana said the health sector remains dynamic and needs tailor-made solutions to counter the impact of such challenges.
“Unlike the preceding years, 2021 was a year that the board did not experience any collective job actions and was therefore able to focus on strengthening the quality service delivery,” he said.
“By June 2021, the health Service had lost more than twice the number of nurses that left the service in the whole of 2020.”
Health officials say the exodus has affected an already fragile health system, which suffers from a lack of medical equipment and medicines.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) recommends a minimum of 23 doctors per 10,000 people, which Zimbabwe is far from meeting. When the last survey was done in 2015, there was an average of just 1.6 doctors per 10,000 people.
Despite repeated government promises to improve wages they remain low.
An average worker in the public sector takes homes less than $200 a month, while in the UK – which relaxed visa restrictions for health workers in 2020 – they can earn 10 times as much. -NewZimbabwe
By-A South Africa-bound bus Thursday dumped a sick Bulawayo woman on the road.
Sithabile Maseko (49) was left battling for life in the street next to Regional Coaches bus rank around 4 PM just before the bus left for South Africa.
Two men agreed with the bus driver to drag Maseko out of the bus after she asked to get some fresh air as she wasn’t feeling well.
It is alleged that other passengers asked the woman what her problem was and she said she had a kidney ailment and was going to South Africa for treatment.
On realising that she had difficulties in breathing, the bus driver ordered two men to remove her from the bus.
They reportedly dropped her handbag and a plastic bag with her national ID, bus ticket and medical record but left with her suitcase in the boot of the bus.
Irate witnesses informed the bus company supervisors about the incident but were snubbed.
A Good Samaritan called an ambulance which came and took the woman to the United Bulawayo Hospitals.
The Good Samaritan, who now had the woman’s daughter’s contact numbers in South Africa, called her and informed her about her mother’s luggage that was in the bus travelling to South Africa.
By-Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, Thursday for the first time after a long time meeting face to face with his wife, Marry, at the Harare Magistrates Court.
It was the first meeting for the couple in a long time after a dramatic fallout.
Chiwenga took the witness stand in-camera before Harare magistrate Lazini Ncube, who ruled that the State vice president must be protected because of his high office.
Marry’s lawyer, Beatrice Mtetwa on Wednesday argued that Chiwenga must not get special treatment and the matter must be heard in a public court.
However, Ncube ruled that the State had made it clear that it is the office of the complainant that needs to be protected. Said Ncube:
The defence has a duty to put questions to the complainant, which was still going to happen if it was in an open court.
It is my view that nothing has been put in place to show the prejudice the complainant would suffer if the case is heard in camera.
The State has made it clear that it is the office of the complainant that needs to be protected.
Speaking to journalists after court, Mtetwa said Chiwenga did not say anything warranting camera proceedings.
Chiwenga arrived at the Magistrates Court around 10 AM escorted by three top-of-the-range vehicles and five security aides.
He entered the courts’ building using an entrance reserved for magistrates, avoiding reporters who had gathered.
Chiwenga accuses Marry of trying to fraudulently acquire a marriage certificate without his knowledge in 2019, allegations that she has consistently denied.
The matter was postponed to 17 January for the continuation of the trial.
By-Scandal ridden Doves Holdings has donated a bus to President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s ED-UNZA (University of Zambia) Scholarship Trust.
Doves which has been making headlines for burying an empty coffin in Nyanga, donated a 40-seater bus with funeral cover for all the beneficiaries.
Faramatsi Motors and Instant Tar Zimbabwe also donated.
The President received the donation at State House this morning, where he expressed gratitude to the three firms.
Doves Holdings, Faramatsi Motors and Instant Tar Zimbabwe group public relations manager Mr Innocent Tshuma said the donation was in fulfilment of a pledge made during the ED-UNZA (University of Zambia) inaugural fundraising dinner recently. “If you look at the 15 students who are covered by the President’s initiative, they come from very humble backgrounds,” he said. “As a cooperation – Doves Holdings, Faramatsi Motors and Instant Tar Zimbabwe – we saw it fit to come and pledge funeral cover in the unlikely and unfortunate event something befalls of these students. “We will cover them wherever they are, whether in Zambia, in Zimbabwe or vice versa. Over and above that, we then decided the Trust needs a form of transport. We then donated a 40-seater bus for the Trust to use in providing for its needs.”
Sergio Aguero has announced his retirement from playing football.
The 33-year-old was recently diagnosed with a cardiac arrhythmia (irregular heartbeat) after he complained of chest pains and dizziness on his second league start for Barcelona against Alaves in October.
He was initially sidelined by the condition for at least three months.
But the Argentine has now been forced to hang his boots to avoid more complications.
Aguero announced the news at a press conference in Barcelona on Wednesday.
“My health comes first. Medical staff have told me it’s best to stop playing and so I’m now leaving Barcelona and retiring from professional football,” the striker said.
Aguero signed for Barca in the summer on a free transfer from Manchester City, where he had scored 184 goals in 275 Premier League appearances to become the club’s all-time top scorer.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe
Bournemouth coach Scott Parker has confirmed that Jordan Zemura will play for the Warriors at the 2021 Afcon tournament in Cameroon next month.
The defender recently started light training after recovering from an ankle injury.
He sustained the knock in the Cherries’ Championship match against Reading at the end of October.
The setback ruled the 22-year-old out of the Warriors’ final two games in the World Cup Qualifiers and there had been fears he would miss the Afcon also.
But Parker expects Zemura to be part of the Zimbabwe squad for the continental showpiece.
The gaffer told the Bournemouth Echo newspaper: “Depending on how he (Zemura) does come out of this injury, because he has still got some bits to do, he is still not over the line here.
“But yeah, in January he will be leaving, probably to go to the African Nations.”
UK-born Zemura has played four times at senior level for Zimbabwe, having qualified to play for the Warriors through his parents.
He was one of the best players when Zimbabwe took on Ghana in a World Cup qualifiers double-header in October, and his return to fitness will be good news for Mapeza ahead of the AFCON finals, as the coach will be without key players Marvelous Nakamba, Marshall Munetsi and Brendan Galloway through injury.
Wigan Athletic right back Tendayi Darikwa has also excused himself for the continental spectacle.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe
Tinashe Sambiri|Dynamic pressure group Zimbabwe Election Advocacy Trust has condemned the disruption of the Crisis In Zimbabwe Coalition meeting by Zanu PF hooligans.
Unruly Zanu PF elements violently disrupted the crucial conference in Bulawayo on Wednesday.
Below is Zimbabwe Election Advocacy Trust’s statement on acts of hooliganism being perpetrated by the regime:
ZEAT COMMUNICATIONS:
We are dismayed by violent attacks meted against delegates at a Crisis Coalition in Zimbabwe conference in Bulawayo by ZANU PF organised thugs on Wednesday 15 December,2021.ZANU PF’s penchant for violence and strife is startling for a party that portrays itself as a ‘Second Republic’ the antithesis of the old which bragged of degrees in violence. They need to walk the talk and stop the rhetoric.
ZANU PF must however be warned that they are not above the law and neither do they have monopoly to violence hence they must stop their thuggery behavior. We wish a speedy recovery to Civic leaders who got injured in the attack and the perpetrators of violence must also be prosecuted. Civic Society must not be viewed as an enemy of State but rather complementing partners of Government. We are deeply worried by raising cases of politcal violence perpetrated by ZANU PF which is supposed to lead by example as a ruling politcal party in the country.A society is built on positives embedded in the spirit of unhu/ubuntu as espoused by our peaceful nature as a civilized nation .
As ZEAT we call ZANU PF to order as we move towards by-elections to be held early next year.We entreats President ED Mnangagwa to instill discipline in his rogue party members.ZEAT….fostering democratic elections!
Tinashe Sambiri|Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration has seized a farm belonging to prominent farmer Gary Arthur Hobbs.

He got his Karoi farm from the GVT of Zimbabwe and has been farming for more than 30 years.
His farm is one of the best performing in Mashonaland West, but ZANU-PF has now invaded the farm.
We strongly condemn his eviction.

Tinashe Sambiri| MDC Alliance vice president Hon Tendai Biti has said “roving bandits” in Zanu PF are plundering State resources at an alarming rate.
Hon Biti also lambasted the regime for fraudulently awarding the e-passport tender to Emmerson Mnangagwa’s friends.
Hon Biti argued: The privatization of passport production is yet another chapter in lengthy anthology of crony capitalism under Emmerson.Passport data is a pvt&security issue that can’t be outsourced . Further what criteria has been used to select Tagwireyi as the producer of these passports?
It’s unprecedented that a regime can decree that all passports will expire on a certain date. The processing of new passports will be a humongous multi billion dollar business .It will also a logistical nightmare .This regime has no boundary,no morality , no limitations,no shame.
SI 273 of 2021 is blatantly unconstitutional.

By Showbiz Reporter | ZimEye | Winky D has released a song that features Queen Elizabeth as his bride.
The song has the musician, a black slave at a huge palace, and the date sitting somewhere several hundreds of years ago.
Immediately the Queen mother is speaking with her daughter and she is arguing with her about her future love life, as she has arranged for a husband who fits the class of expectation according to royalty.
The Queen must marry the king of Maldives, as is the custom of all nobility. But the daughter who’s the Queen, loves only Winky D.
The Queen mother continues her argument. “I only look at my queen, you’ve made me such a proud mother, finally you’ve married the King of Maldives.
” I can’t wait to hold my new grandchild in my hands, the Queen mother exclaims.
“Mother I would much rather die than to see that happen,” the daughter, the Queen screams.
And then suddenly a black slave comes from behind the building carrying on his shoulders a large burden of grass which he quickly throws down.
He energetically wipes his face and then starts to sing:
It’s not money that can buy you all the things in life, it’s not money that can make you a better wife. It’s not money that can make you pay the love price. It’s not money, no.
These little words. Running up in my veins. If I say I love you girl and you love me too we can be happy again. These little words running up in my veins if I say I love you girl and you love me too we can be happy again.
The silver and gold is meant for the world the love that I hold is meant for your soul, the rivers will flow and nature will call, I hope you will know that I am giving my all. I’ve come to light that fire fire fire again I’ve come to light that fire fire fire again with these little words running up in my veins I won’t promise you of silver this is all that I have.
These little words running up in my veins if I say I love you girl and you say you love me too we can be happy again.
Some even kill for blood. Some blood will spill for love. When all the love is gone theyll keep holding onto grudge. But I come in peace I’m glad you feel my wish
I’m going to fill this empty space…
I’m going to light up that fire fire fire again. With these little words running up in my veins I want from this you know silver that I have. – ZimEye VIDEO LOADING BELOW
By A Correspondent- President Emmerson Mnangagwa says the Government is closely monitoring the COVID-19 situation in the country and is ready to implement new measures to stem the tide of new infections.
The President said this on Wednesday while officially launching the Presidential Rural Development Programme at Jinjika Village, Makorokoro area of Mangwe District, Matabeleland South. He said:
I urge us all to remain vigilant following the recent resurgence and spikes of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Let us not panic, my Government is monitoring the situation and stands ready to make timely decisions.
Zimbabwe, like most countries around the world, is facing the fourth wave of coronavirus infections fuelled by the novel Omicron variant that is more transmissible than the Delta variant.
President Mnangagwa implored citizens to be vaccinated against COVID-19 and those fully vaccinated to get booster jabs.
He said:
I urge those who are yet to receive their vaccine doses to get vaccinated. We can only be safe until everyone is safe.
Please get vaccinated, you won’t die as this is actually a form of protection from the virus.
Zimbabwe is currently experiencing the fourth wave of coronavirus infections, with daily confirmed cases remaining above 3 000.
Statistics released by the Ministry of Health and Child Care show that 4 247 new cases and 12 deaths were recorded on Thursday, 16 December 2021, with the 7-day rolling average for new cases now at 4 355.
To date, 4 023 013 people have received the first jab, while 3 035 192 citizens are now fully vaccinated.
Permanent secretary in the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Nick Mangwana has said Karoi farmer Garry Hobbes has not been evicted and remains on his farm.
Hobbes, who has an offer letter from the Ministry of Lands, was initially served an eviction order in November 2020, with the eviction notice following on 30 March 2021.
The farmer and his family on Thursday woke up to a team from the Sheriff’s Office accompanied by armed police officers to enforce the eviction order.
But posting on Twitter on Thursday night, Mangwana said there was a farm boundary confusion that is being attended to by relevant authorities.
“Mr Garry Hobbs remains at his farm. He has not been evicted. The Second Republic stands for sanity on all farms and its policy is that all Agricultural Land should be used productively by beneficiaries,” said Mangwana.
“The boundary confusion that obtained is being resolved by relevant authorities,” added Mangwana.
Hobbs was initially spared his farm during the violent and chaotic land invasions led by war veterans in the year 2000 after he voluntarily surrendered a portion of his farm.
Zimbabwe needs to come up with fit-for-purpose interventions to mitigate the impact of an unprecedented staff exodus which saw the country losing more than 2 000 health professionals this year, more than double the number lost last year.
The health sector has over the past few years been hit by challenges including the movement of nurses, doctors, pharmacists among others to other countries. As at November 30 this year, a total of 2246 health care professionals had left the service, more than double the number that left in 2020 which stood at 993.
In 2019 and 2018 a total of 767 and 756 employees left the sector respectively. This has been impacted by the Covid-19 which has increased demand for healthcare workers across the globe.
Speaking at the Health Service Board (HSB) strategic planning and review in Victoria Falls this week, executive chairman Dr Paulinus Sikosana said the health sector remains dynamic and needs tailor made solutions to counter the impact of such challenges.
“Unlike the preceding years, 2021 was a year that the board did not experience any collective job actions and was therefore able to focus on strengthening the quality service delivery.
However, the year had its own challenges, some of which included the unprecedented staff attrition from the service, particularly from such categories as nurses, doctors, pharmacists and other staff categories who were being actively recruited by agencies from developed countries and some setting their sights at neighbouring countries.
“By June 2021, the health Service had lost more than twice the number of nurses that left the service in the whole of 2020,” he said.
He said while disparities between staff establishments at local level against those at national level remained, the magnitude of such discrepancies had been narrowed down to a few provinces.
Dr Sikosana said the shortage of critical skills still persisted in the sector despite invitations for retired nurses to re-join the service as the sector is generally perceived to be unattractive, especially by skilled and experienced staff.
Government has already embarked on a deliberate plan to improve the lives and conditions of services for health care workers through the provision of non monetary benefits among others.
The move is expected to reduce the rate at which skilled staff is leaving service.
Dr Sikosana said the HSB would work towards refining its strategy for the period 2021-2023 in line with national priority areas defined in the National Development Strategy-1 (NDS-1) with particular focus on making inputs towards human capital development and the health and well-being of Zimbabweans.
“We will develop a rolling plan that is premised on the work we started at the beginning of 2021 and whose cumulative outputs will be reviewed at the end of 2023.
“The year 2022 therefore will thus provide an opportunity to undertake a mid-term review of the 3-year plan.
“The whole-of Government approach as embedded in the Integrated Results Based Management system demands a culture of high performance, continuous improvement, accountability and quality health service delivery across the health sector.
“In order to respond and comply with these requirements, the Board will rely on the existing strengths within the health system that include a skilled, knowledgeable and professional health work-force as well as promoting development and harnessing innovation, research and development,” added Dr Sikosana.
He reiterated the importance of adopting principles of continuous improvement of systems to help monitor progress towards achievement of set results, goals and outcomes.
Some of the key areas to be budgeted for during the period include governance and administration, pay and benefits management, human capital development as well as improved operational efficiency, conditions of service, staff establishment, human resources for health performance in the sector and increased specialised skills.

The Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) yesterday challenged a move by the government to award CBZ Holdings a monopoly to collect application fees for the e-passport.
The lawyers also challenged Home Affairs minister Kazembe Kazembe’s decision to phase out current passports by December 31, 2023 arguing that he did not have Constitutional powers to make the declaration.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa launched the e-passport on Tuesday where he announced that CBZ Bank will collect the US$20 passport application fees.
On the same day, Kazembe gazetted Statutory Instrument (SI) 273 of 2021 introducing the e-passport and announced that old passports will be unacceptable after December 31, 2023.
But the ZLHR in a letter to Kazembe gave the minister a 48-hour ultimatum to furnish them with the procedures and criterion used to select CBZ Holdings to receive and process passport application fees.
“Further, we note that in terms of Section 35(3) of the Constitution, it is the State’s primary obligation to provide citizens with passports and other identity documents,” the lawyers said.
“In terms of the aforesaid regulations, we note that CBZ bank is charged with the processing of all applications at an additional cost of a US$20 fee. In the interest of public accountability and transparency, we kindly request to be provided with the procedures and criterion used to designate CBZ bank as the entity to be processing e-passports.”
Businessman Kudakwashe Tagwirei reportedly owns a 30% stake in CBZ Holdings.
ZLHR argued that Kazembe’s decision to phase out current passports was grossly unreasonable, unfair to passport holders and in violation of the Citizenship of Zimbabwe Act.
“The enabling Act of Parliament being the Citizenship of Zimbabwe Act does not give you the powers to promulgate regulations regulating the issuance, phasing out of passports and the stipulation of passports fees,” the lawyers said.”
The enabling Act gives power to the Minister of Home Affairs to promulgate regulations dealing solely with citizenship and matters in relation to which you may regulate in terms of the Act are specified in Section 22 of the Act and you are empowered to promulgate regulations dealing with the issuance of passports. Consequently, it is our respectful view that by promulgating the Citizenship (passport fees) regulations you acted ultra vires the powers conferred on yourself by the Citizen of Zimbabwe Act.
“But presidential spokesperson George Charamba scoffed at the lawyers’ challenge and insisted that there was no going back on e-passports.”E-passports: Even when the rail was introduced, those who made a living from bullock-drawn carts thought the world had ended,”Charamba posted on Twitter.
“Today, who remembers they used to rely on manyurusi (horses) for conveyancing??? Muchajairira henyu (you will get used to it); e-passport will not vanish because you have sweared. Or impotently shaken a fist in your own face! You wanna play, you gotta pay!”Ordinary passports will cost US$100 and emergency passport US$200. The country is battling a passport backlog.
Five armed robbers attacked a CAG Travellers Coaches bus near Karoi, stripped them naked and vanished with their clothes.
The robbery happened on Tuesday at around 6.30 pm, and the attackers also escaped with more than US$20 000.
The suspected robbers were wielding an unknown firearm, which they used to scare passengers and the bus crew. National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said investigations were underway.
The robbers stole US$19 050, R2 000, $690 and K1 137, and other valuables. They had boarded the bus in Karoi pretending to be genuine passengers. Police are anxious to hear from anyone who might be able to give information. In an interview, CAG director Dr Sam Nanhanga said the suspects boarded the bus in Karoi intending to go to Chirundu. “I am told one of them pretended to be feeling like vomiting while walking in the aisle. He pulled out a gun and fired two shots into the roof of the bus and the other pulled out another gun and shot the screen of the bus. They then ordered everyone on the bus to remove their clothes and put them in a sack which the other robber was holding. All the men and women, were stripped naked. “The challenge I have is that there is a man who was seen by the passengers, before waving for the bus to stop intending to board as a passenger. When the bus tried to stop, the robbers said if the bus stops they were going to kill everyone. The man then sped off and reported the incident at a roadblock that was 2km away, which means the incident happened 2km before the next roadblock,” he said.
Dr Nanhanga said the people who robbed the bus had pistols while their colleagues who followed the bus with a small car had larger firearms, which could have been easily identified if one attempted to board the bus.

By A Correspondent- Zimdancehall artiste, Freeman born Sylvester Chizanga, was on Tuesday questioned by police after a picture of himself and one of the three robbers gunned down during the Chadcombe shoot-out started circulating on social media.
The circulation of the picture and the shooting of the armed robbers came just a few days after Freeman released his album titled “Robbery”.
In the picture, Freeman was with one of the armed robbers, Charles Chirara, hugging behind a parked car. Chirara was shot dead by former CID detective, Joseph Nemaisa.
This prompted detectives from the CID Homicide Section to contact him so that he could clarify the association.
Freeman was summoned at Harare Central Police Station on Tuesday morning where he was questioned and released after a few hours.
Sources close to the investigations said when he was questioned, Freeman revealed that the picture was taken sometime in 2016 and that he personally knew Chirara as a fan and voluntary show bouncer.
Freeman said he was not aware that Chirara, a former soldier who used to attend his live shows and ask for photographs, was an armed robber since he did not inquire much into his fans’ private lives.
The Joina City hitmaker said he only learnt from the media when Chirara was gunned down at Nemaisa’s house.
The picture of Freeman and Chirara that has been circulating has a message which reads,
Freeman HKD Boss is seen with one of the robbers who was shot and killed last week at a house in Chadcombe.
Is it by coincidence that he hangs around with robbers and his album is named Robbery.
The three dead were identified as Brian Koga Tendere (38) of Murehwa, Charles Chirara (30) of Ushewokunze and rogue soldier Tariro Gora of 1 Commando Barracks, Harare.
Those arrested by CID Homicide are former constable Francis Takura (33) and a soldier Private Virimai Nyandoro (37) and the informer, Tanaka Shine Nyamunga (21).

What really is pulling the numbers down? While SA’s economy is crashing down on the chart, another line is peaking up, and it is the very cause of this: xenophobia, threats and actual violence.
The BBC reports how the South African government for years deliberately chose not to report cases of xenophobia, the data that could only help the average public understand what’s affecting the economic decline, or at least where it is coming from. The BBC graph above shows the rise of xenophobia and threats thereof over the same period the economy is falling. A leading academic at Kent University calls this phenomenon the unavoidable intersection between human rights and economic growth. A rise in rights abuses shrinks the economy.
Tshuma highlights how human rights violations cause economic decline. In the case of Zimbabwe, it is revealed how for instance in the 14 years between 2004 and 2018, investor interest has either risen or declined in a consequential correlation with Human Rights.
Dr Tshuma was 3 years ago asked by SABC: What were you aiming to achieve?, and he answered saying: “the study is a socio-economic perspective. “
Graph showing Zimbabwe economy growth(red) is a direct consequence of & damaged by human rights adherence 2004-18- Google Data, by interest search
He continued by adding that, “the aim is not to take a side in this argument, but to unpack the perspective, of human rights and economic paradigms. This is the first time that such a question has been examined by social science using an objectively collected data.
“So far, South Africa is at 3rd level. If the South African community and its government continue to allow xenophobia to continue, at which number do you you foresee South Africa sitting on the continental economic graph, next year, 2022?”
By A Correspondent- President Emmerson Mnangagwa has launched a vegetable garden project at Sekusile-Makorokoroin Jinjika Village, Makorokoro area of Mangwe District, Matabeleland South.
The state media reports that the garden will creat employment and uplift livelihoods in rural communities.
It said that the Government had engaged the Agricultural Marketing Authority (AMA) to market the produce from the Makorokoro garden.
“The Presidential Rural Development is, thus part of an array of my Government’s efforts to turn around the economic fortunes of our rural communities. It will enable communities to play a more active part in the ongoing, irreversible economic development agenda,” said Mnangagwa.
“This programme is expected to uplift over 1,8 million households from poverty into prosperity through increased household incomes as well as the creation of employment and empowerment opportunities.”
Emmerson Mnangagwa’s uncle Ephius Munodawafa has challenged ZANU PF me,need baying for his blood, to go ahead as he does not have any regrets over his recent statements calling for a change of behaviour in the country, failure which a military implosion could happen.
Chief Murinye’s outcry against corruption have drawn criticism from some loud sections in the ruling party.

He has since responded to critics in a WhatsApp group saying:
I was going to the capital city and I saw a roadblock and I asked the propol, please stop that car that is carying presidential inputs fertilizer. It is coming from the farm of a very senior person and going to be sold in the capital city Harare. I know that some of these people are inside this group. I told the police head I won’t tell you my name but I’m asking you to do this. I explained that this car is carying fertilizer from the presidential scheme. And since this day nothing has happened concerning that car and you are saying, hear no evil, see no evil.
You can kill me if you want.
-ORIGINAL ARTICLE BELOW-
By Dr Masimba Mavaza | Circulating video footage of Chief Murinye born Mukoma Ephius Munodawafa has revealed disconcerting but not unfamiliar disquiet towards chiefs. It all started with a speech at a funeral in Masvingo where Chief Murinye was giving a grave side speech an honour usually accorded all senior members available.
Ephius Munodawafa (Chief Murinye) with president Emmerson Mnangagwa
Chief Murinye gave a thirty minute speech but the public was only given a three minute stitched up snippets of the speech. Who ever made the video suffered from a serious selective audio disorder syndrome. He simply put together different episodes and the whole recording struck the public with an out of context narrative.
Mukoma Ephius Murinye is a lawyer by profession and a successful businessman specialising in transport business. He is again a dedicated Christian and an elder in the Seventh Day Adventist Church, an accomplished master guide.
A master guide is a specially trained person in all walks of life guided by Christ for him who guides others in the world towards Christ. Munodawafa understands that we are in the world but we are not of this world.
His speech has made his enemies celebrate with Joy as they seek to bring him down.
One must ask himself this question. Since when did we start taking advise from opposition newspapers.
Many opposition papers have grabbed the video and started spinning it. They completely took the video way out of context and drive their own narrative. Chief Ephius Murinye understands politics very well. He is not a man who can itch for a coup.
A point chief Murinye always say was that there was never a coup in Zimbabwe. While the army was in the streets maintaining peace President Mugabe was executing his Presidential duties. He was in Chinhoyi contacting a graduation ceremony. He attended to some businesses until his party recalled him. South Africa recalled several presidents but was never said to be having a coup. The process which was used to remove President Mugabe was not a coup. It was a constitutional way which demanded the army to take their constitutional stand and keep peace since the police were overwhelmed.
Contrary to what the private press reported Chief Murinye never said that he wanted a coup. He said “ the president is surrounded by thieves” he then asked “ do we have to go to Vallerio Simbanda and ask him to remove the thieves around the president.
Murinye is indeed brave and is paying for his bravery. There are people who are around the president who are thieves. Some have multiple farms. Some have billions from our minerals. Some charge people to meet the president. Some personalise the president and think that he is theirs alone. We have a lot of parrots in the government who only sing praises to ED even if things are bad. Murinye must be applauded for telling the president that things are hard on the ground.
Some parrots lied to the president that we will win overwhelmingly in 2018. We had to scrape through; it was not an easy win. We are on the ground and the president deserves the truth. Lying to the president is not a sign of patriotism. Murinye simply told the president the truth. “If you do not deal with the thieves around you now 2023 may not be your way.”
Mukoma Ephius was only a messenger, a prophet who simply warned the president of the corrupt vampires around him. Commenting on the video Cde honourable Pupurai Togarepi said “That was unfortunate. In my view he is a playing front for some antagonistic forces. The President is fighting corruption and it’s everyone’s duty to do the same.
Ngaataure vari corrupt vacho vasungwe kwete kutaura generalized statements.” Chief Murinye replied to this by saying “ i understand those who are horrified by that video. Even myself I am horrified. The video was sexed to bring a negative narrative. I will never ever agitate a coup in Zimbabwe. I paused a question to the corrupt ones if we should ask V Sibanda to come for those surrounding the President.” Its not a secret that there are thieves around the president. They are tarnishing the name of the President everyday.
We have thieves in every aspect of our economy and as a chief it is my duty to denounce corruption.” He went on to say If we do not deal with corruption our President will not win it for us in 2023.” There are idiots who think they are more ZANU PF than others. These Mafikizolos are destroying it for ED.
I regret the deliberate misconstruction of the video.
If any person takes my speech to mean something else i apologise. But the truth is clear. I cannot be a happy Chief when my people are groaning under the cruelty of corrupt vampires surrounding the president.
My duties as a chief are multiple, ranging from maintenance of social norms to provision of basic social amenities for my people to creating political awareness among my subjects.
Being a traditional ruler I open myself up to all males and females whose rights have been trampled on by other members of the community.
I also receive complaints from some members of the community about theft, and quarrels over farm land. I then take it personally and do what I can to bring confidence in our president and country.I make a serious effort to settle the conflicting parties by making references to traditional rules as regards land ownership or traditional marriage procedures.
I like being chief of my community because it gives me the opportunity to serve my subjects. I try to assist them in securing basic social needs for themselves, such as digging of wells to provide drinking water during the dry season. The position also gives me the chance to be chairperson of functions that take place in my community I deem that as a big honor and an opportunity to promote peace and a cooperative spirit among my subjects.
However, there are frustrations associated with my position as traditional ruler. For instance, if I am miss understood people seek to put me down. I am a patriot and will never fight my president. As a traditional ruler, I have no prescribed working hours. Although I am here for every person I nonetheless sometimes suffer from other minor hazards such as open hate from some of my subjects. For example, some people feel dissatisfied when I settle cases against their interests. When this happens they come to believe I have not been fair.
On the whole, however, I consider my performance quite satisfactory I take pride in being a chief of my people because I stand the chance of making a difference to my people. We also ask our subjects to co-operate with the government by taking an interest in community development activities and paying tax regularly, yet we are accused as anti government.
I am proud to be the traditional ruler of my people. It is a big opportunity open to me to interact with people in government circles and present grievances from my people.
I do not regret being chief of my people and only pray for long life to be able to serve my people well in the coming years. If there is a problem of corruption at both national and local level I will stand up for my people.
I respect Cde ED Mnangagwa I adore him. I will be under him as long as God gives me more life.
No one can plan without God. “
Chief Murinye regrets any incident which might have brought disreputable effects on the name of the government and the president. I have come very far and I have always liked Cde Mnangagwa. I will never agitate for a coup.

3 years ago he was the irritation of the First Family, and his name was always on First Lady Grace Mugabe’s lips. Such was the annoyance that a skit has since suggested he actually made overtures towards Mrs Mugabe. This year, Kazembe Kazembe is the face of most corruptly awarded tenders in the country.
Barely a month after his company was stripped of a contract to renovate the National Sports stadium, Kazembe Kazembe has been taken to court over e passports awarded a Belgian company with a history of bribery and failure to execute service in several other countries.
Kazembe-Kazembe
The Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) yesterday challenged a move by the government to award CBZ Holdings a monopoly to collect application fees for the recently announced e-passport.
“The enabling Act of Parliament being the Citizenship of Zimbabwe Act does not give you the powers to promulgate regulations regulating the issuance, phasing out of passports and the stipulation of passports fees,” the lawyers said.
“The enabling Act gives power to the Minister of Home Affairs to promulgate regulations dealing solely with citizenship and matters in relation to which you may regulate in terms of the Act are specified in Section 22 of the Act and you are empowered to promulgate regulations dealing with the issuance of passports. Consequently, it is our respectful view that by promulgating the Citizenship (passport fees) regulations you acted ultra vires the powers conferred on yourself by the Citizen of Zimbabwe Act.”
But presidential spokesperson George Charamba scoffed at the lawyers’ challenge and insisted that there was no going back on e-passports.
“E-passports: Even when the rail was introduced, those who made a living from bullock-drawn carts thought the world had ended,”Charamba posted on Twitter.
“Today, who remembers they used to rely on manyurusi (horses) for conveyancing??? Muchajairira henyu (you will get used to it); e-passport will not vanish because you have sweared. Or impotently shaken a fist in your own face! You wanna play, you gotta pay!”

Five armed robbers attacked a CAG Travellers Coaches bus on Tuesday at around 6.30pm at the 325km peg along the Harare-Chirundu highway, undressed all passengers before escaping with the clothes and more than US$20 000.
Press statement.
The Passengers Association of Zimbabwe is in shock on how buses and passengers are being robbed of their hard earned cash on our national highways while we have a police force which is equipped with materials to carry out their operations without hindrance.
The Zimbabwe Republic of Zimbabwe must implement random highway patrols to scare off these robbers. In every 100 kilometres there must be five police patrolling vehicles and they should be operating traveserly.
PAZ advice operators who ply cross border routes to equip their vehicles with mobile CCTV and have a register of passengers onboard including their contact details and next of kin. Apart from equipping their vehicles with the CCTV technology the buses must have a radio communications system. This was a way of safe guarding passengers safety and the vehicles.
PAZ learnt that the robbers where picked along the way in Karoi. Commentators to this event are of the opinion that the bus crews must be highly alert and suspicious of some passengers they carry. These days almost everyone who is provided with a service is a potential thief or robber. This is being pushed to that end due to the socio-economic development taking about in our country.
PAZ advice passengers to use other platforms to transfer their funds so that they can access the from places they are visiting. It is wise not travel with large amounts of money on person.
We also urge bus companies to leave cash behind and only move with limited cash from passengers picked along the way. Security must given priority since robberies are on the rise.

Five armed robbers attacked a CAG Travellers Coaches bus on Tuesday at around 6.30pm at the 325km peg along the Harare-Chirundu highway, undressed all passengers before escaping with the clothes and more than US$20 000.
Dr Nanhanga said the people who robbed the bus had pistols while their colleagues who followed the bus with a small car had larger firearms, which could have been easily identified if one attempted to board the bus.- Herald/additional reporting
Tinashe Sambiri| MDC Alliance Youth Assembly leader Obey Sithole has challenged social media character DJ Towers to desist from being used by Passion Java to attack perceived Zanu PF opponents.
DJ Towers has sold his conscience for a few pieces of silver, according to Sithole.
He argued: “Then enters another one who calls himself DJ Towers.
For the love of few pieces of silver, people are making madness a lifestyle.
We surely need to save our people from poverty.”
The MDC Alliance Alliance Youth Assembly leader also denounced Zanu PF hooliganism following disruption of a Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition meeting.
“I have just received news that delegates at the Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition AGM have been attacked and some injured following a violent disruption by ZANUPF thugs in Bulawayo. This continued desperate attempt by the regime to suffocate voices of truth are yet another reason why they must be booted out in the next plebiscite. Zimbabwe belongs to all and no one must be subjected to any form of violence,” said Sithole.
WHO STI Research Priority Setting Technical Advisory Group
Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) have a profound impact on sexual and reproductive health (SRH) worldwide. In 2020, an estimated 374 million new infections occurred globally with one of the 4 curable STIs: syphilis, chlamydia, gonorrhea, and trichomoniasis.
[1] The Global Health Sector Strategy on STIs (2016-2021) sets out several guiding principles for ending the STI epidemic as a public health problem,[2] but many gaps in evidence limit available guidance and tools, and progress toward STI prevention and control has been slow.[3] As an updated global strategy is developed for the next decade, new research is essential to strengthen the evidence base for new and improved interventions and guidelines including, but not limited to: the epidemiology, risk factors, and consequences of STIs; development and evaluation of behavioral, biomedical, clinical, and programmatic STI interventions and strategies; and scaling up existing interventions.
WHO is undertaking an exercise to identify global and regional STI research priorities. The systematic priority setting approach will involve consultation with a wide range of global stakeholders.
A Technical Advisory Group (TAG) on STI Research Priority Setting, consisting of external experts, will contribute to the planning, development, and implementation of the research priority setting exercise. The STI Research Priority Setting TAG will be expected to oversee the process and to consider and include perspectives across regions, gender, populations and socioeconomics.
In its capacity as an advisory body to WHO, the STI Research Priority Setting TAG shall have the following functions:
Develop the priority setting framework (eg. clarify the objectives, context, scope, and focus areas of the process). Review and provide comments to WHO on the research priority setting process protocol and survey tools.
Generate lists of national, regional and global STI experts and stakeholder groups to ensure a broad range of survey participants are reached during the priority setting process implementation. Participate in consolidating STI research questions solicited from stakeholder surveys.
Ensure that the proposed criteria for scoring research questions will address the objectives of the exercise. Review analysis and results of ranking and systematic listing of priority research questions (with data management/statistical support). Contribute to the WHO finalization. publishing and dissemination of global STI research priorities.
The STI Research Priority Setting TAG will meet with the WHO Secretariat throughout this process. The first meeting will be convened no earlier than 13 December 2021. In keeping with the requirements of the WHO Advisory Groups guidelines and the WHO Compliance, Risk Management and Ethics Office, we are posting online short biographies of the TAG members.
The listed candidates have also submitted a Declaration of Interest form stating any conflict of interests. WHO has applied its internal processes to ensure that the performance of the above tasks by members of this group will be transparent and without any significant conflict of interests (academic, financial, or other) that could affect the credibility of the process.
Nevertheless, WHO invites the general public to review the experts and stakeholders involved and provide feedback regarding any member deemed to have a significant conflict of interest with respect to the terms of reference for this group.

South Africa has recorded 54 COVID-19 deaths in the past 24 hours. Here is the Coronavirus/ COVID-19 Situation Report or Update for South Africa issued by the Department of Health RSA on 12 December 2021:
By A Correspondent- Police in the Midlands have said local hospitals are being overwhelmed by unclaimed bodies piling up in their mortuaries, with their next of kin or relatives not known.
In the latest incident, Midlands provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said the police were appealing for anyone to help identify a victim of an accident which occurred along the Kwekwe-Gokwe Highway who remains unclaimed since October. The victim only identified as Alboy Ncube was involved in the accident near Tiger Reef on 21 October and died on the spot.
“We appeal for anyone who might have a missing relative to check with Kwekwe District Hospital,” said Insp Mahoko in a statement today. “Zimbabwe Republic Police is concerned with cases of deaths of people without identification particulars in areas where they are not known, making their identification difficult.”
Zimdancehall artiste Energy Sylvester Chizanga, popularly known as Freeman, was on Tuesday questioned by police over a picture of himself and one of the three robbers gunned down during the Chadcombe shoot-out started circulating on social media.
Freeman’s association with robbers is too coincidental. The development is not the first time Freeman has been linked to robbers.
5 years ago, he did a music video for Silent Killer, Tendai Musekiwa, a car robber in South Africa, whose arrest was featured on the SABC news channel.
This year, despite explaining they were just fans, Freeman has been linked to the Chadcombe robbers, and his latest song is even titled Armed Robbery. Further coincidence is in that his artwork features one of the robbers.
WHAT MUST FREEMAN DO TO CLEAR HIS REPUTATION AGAINST ARMED ROBBERS?
The circulation of the picture and the shooting of the armed robbers came just a few days after Freeman released his album titled “Robbery”.
In the picture, Freeman was with one of the armed robbers, Charles Chirara, hugging behind a parked car. Chirara was shot dead by former CID detective Joseph Nemaisa.
A Bindura man has sparked controversy after he ploughed a football pitch saying it was his land passed to him by his father.
The development attracted the community’s wrath, which views the move as jealousy as the pitch has been in use for about 21 years.
Some are questioning the timing which is shortly before some major tournaments.
The man was not available at a community meeting, but his mother defended him saying they were given the land by their father who said it was their ancestral land.
The case has since been escalated to Chief Musana for arbitration. More: ZBC News
By A Correspondent- Former Education minister Lazarus Dokora, who had earlier shown interest in running for the Zanu PF Mashonaland Central chairmanship position, has chickened out following death threats by incumbent chairman, Home Affairs minister Kazembe Kazembe.
Kazembe is now facing the Grain Millers Association of Zimbabwe boss Tafadzwa Musarara and tycoon James Makamba in the race.
Zanu PF this week invited CV from party members who want to contest in the party’s Provincial Coordinating Committees.
The elections were supposed to have been held in October but were shelved after they cause a fierce factional firestorm as officials engaged in a vicious tussle for supremacy.
Zanu PF national political commissar Mike Bimha Wednesday told the media in Harare, the party was calling for CVs for aspiring provincial chairpersons, and those vying for others post in the provincial executive.
He did not specify when the elections will be held.
“Those aspiring for provincial chairmen, provincial chairwomen and provincial youth chairpersons’ posts must submit their CV (curriculum vitae) to their respective provinces by 17 December 2021. Those aspiring candidates who wish to occupy other provincial executive positions must also submit their CVs to their provinces by 17December 2021,” Bimha said.
The political commissar assured members that Zanu PF was now geared to finalise the provincial polls in due course, and all provinces were advised to adhere to the set guidelines and parameters.
“We have now put a framework to guide these elections and it is our hope that by Sunday December 19, all provinces would have completed districts so that we are ready for provincial elections,” he said.
“We are going to deploy Politburo members who will convene provincial coordinating committees (PCCs) on either Saturday 18 or Sunday 19 December 2021 collect CVs and lists of DCC and outgoing provincial executives for submission on Party Headquarters Monday December 20, 2021,” he added.
He said all aspiring youth candidates must be 35 years and below, while provinces should be assigned to supervise other provinces to ensure free and fair elections.
“No province will supervise its own elections. All provinces must submit the list of all polling stations by Sunday 19 December that is each party district must have one polling station. All members who are going to vote and participate must be fully paid up party members. Members are free to participate as candidates and there is no room for imposition.”
The impending internal elections had generated huge interest from Zanu PF members, which is a demonstration that the former revolutionary party was alive, strong and ready for any elections at any level, anytime, Bimha said.
In Mashonaland West, Provincial Minister Mary Mliswa-Chikoka, Information deputy minister Kindness Paradza, incumbent acting chairman Abia Mujeri and youth provincial chairman Vengi Musengi are vying for the provincial chairmanship left vacant following the elevation of Justice minister, Ziyambi Ziyambi to the Politburo in June.
Although Bimha did not give exact dates for the polls, reliable sources said they could be held on December 28.
In Manicaland, the fight is between the incumbent Mike Madiro and pretender Albert Nyakuyedzwa while Chipinge South MP Enock Porusingazi is a rank outsider.
Embattled Masvingo provincial chairman Ezra Chadzamira is facing a formidable opponent in his current deputy Robson Mavhenyengwa.
Elections within the ruling Zanu PF have often been characterised by violence, threats and accusations of vote buying as members jostle for the usually influential and financially rewarding posts.
The provincial elections are set to re-ignite a power struggle that has been simmering in the seams for the past three years between Zanu President and First Secretary Emmerson Mnangagwa and his highly ambitious deputy, Constantino Chiwenga. Factions belonging to them are fighting bitterly over control of party structures.
Mnangagwa and the former Zimbabwe Defence Forces commander are fighting for the heart and soul of Zanu PF and control of the levers of state power.
The differences between the two emerged after the November 2017 coup over several issues, such as type of transitional arrangement, key appointments, including cabinet posts and Mnangagwa’s tenure. NewZimbabwe

By Online/ Correspondent – Two soldiers died Wednesday after an army truck heading to President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s launch of a “market gardening project” in Makorokoro, Matabeleland South, overturned.
The accident also left several other soldiers injured.
The truck was carrying 25 soldiers when it overturned and rolled over between Plumtree and Makorokoro, a village in Mangwe district close to the border with Botswana. A witness said:
The truck was overloaded. It’s shocking that in this era of Covid-19 they could pack so many people in that truck, yet the government goes around preaching social distancing.
The injured were ferried to Maphisa District Hospital and Plumtree District Hospital.
Mnangagwa was in Makorokoro to launch what the state-run ZBC described as the “Matabeleland South market gardening project.”
Mnangagwa toured a vegetable garden and then addressed a rally of hundreds of Zanu PF supporters, many of them bussed in from neighbouring villages and some from as far as Plumtree and Maphisa.

Lesson 12
Memory Text: “ It is written, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God” ’ ” (Matthew 4:4, NKJV).
INTRODUCTION.
The New Testament is saturated with the Old. That is, the inspired writers of the New Testament quoted the inspired writers of the Old as a source of authority. Jesus Himself said, “It is written” (Matt. 4:4), meaning, “It is written in the Old Testament;” and He said that “ ‘the Scriptures must be fulfilled’ ” (Mark 14:49, NKJV)— meaning the Scriptures of the Old Testament. And when Jesus met two disciples on the road to Emmaus, instead of doing a miracle to show them who He was, “beginning at Moses and all the Prophets, He expounded to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself ” (Luke 24:27, NKJV).
Whether direct Old Testament quotations, or allusions, or references to stories or prophecies, the New Testament writers constantly used the Old Testament to buttress, even justify, their claims.
And among the books often quoted or referred to was Deuteronomy (along with Psalms and Isaiah). Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Acts, Romans, Galatians, 1 and 2 Corinthians, Hebrews, the pastoral epistles, and Revelation all go back to Deuteronomy.
SABBATH: Perfect harmony exists between the OT & NT. One is not complete without the other. There is no radical difference between the two. The OT sheds light on the NT, & vice versa. The NT authors quoted often from the OT. Jesus said; “it is written” in the OT & that all “Scriptures must be fulfilled” all alluding to the OT. The 4 gospels, Acts to Revelation all quoted from Deuteronomy (& Psalms & Isaiah).
SUNDAY: Jesus teaches us that the Word of God is the weapon against Satan (Matt. 4:1-11, Heb. 4:12). When tempted, He simply quoted from the OT (in each case from Deuteronomy). Thus, He took texts given to Israel to overcome the devil. In the detours of Israel, God thought the nation spiritual lessons (Deut. 8:3, 6:16, 6:13). The texts are what Christ referred to when tempted (see Exod. 17:1-7).
MONDAY: God is not a man to take a bribe or judge falsely. He does not “lift up faces” (means “shows no partiality”). In the past, it is said that a king sees the face of people on trial & execute judgement using social status. God is the maker of all men. He’s fair with all. In his talk on how to treat slaves, Paul alludes to Deuteronomy (Acts 10:34, Rom. 2:11, Gal. 2:6, Eph. 6:9, Col. 3:25, 1 Pet. 1:17 & compare; Deut. 10:17).
TUESDAY: We’re to walk in God’s law but we’re not saved by the works of the law. Yet, we can’t be saved without obedience. In his epistles, Paul reiterates this truth. Sadly, some misuse these letters to tag keeping the Sabbath as legalism & not the other nine (Gal. 3:1-14; Deut. 27:26, 21:22, 23). We’re saved to obey. We don’t obey to be saved. Rely not in the law but only in Christ (PP, p. 63).
WEDNESDAY: In every age, God has raised up a prophet to share His holy Words with men. Moses was God’s voice to the Israelites. The clear commands of God were given to Israel for her to be a light to other nations. Peter & Stephen referred to this truth (Acts 3:22, 7:37; Deut. 4:6-8, 18:9-14, 15-19). When Israel craved for a mediator, God promised them Jesus (Exod. 20:18-21, 18:15, 18, see Acts 6:11).
THURSDAY: Hebrew is known for its chapter on faith. The whole book can be summed up as an exhortation to the Jewish believers to “stay faithful to the Lord!” Love is the basis for this faithfulness. We have to love God for the love Christ gave on the Cross. In the end, refusing God’s love leads to eternal death (Matt. 22:13, Heb. 10:28-31; Deut. 17:6). Paul warned the Jews (Deut. 32:35, Rom. 8:1).
FRIDAY: The OT & NT are linked. The OT alludes to itself & the authors of the NT made several direct quotes & allusions to the OT/ Septuagint (the earliest known Greek translation of the Hebrew Bible called the “Greek Old Testament”). We should learn to compare Scripture with Scripture just like the NT inspired authors. They raised no doubts about the OT books unlike today’s scholars.

Discussion Questions
? Considering all the light that we have been given as Seventhday Adventists, what should it teach us about the great responsibility upon us to be faithful to the truths that we have been given?
? Read again Deuteronomy 18:9-14. What modern manifestations of these “abominations to the Lord” exist today, and how can we make sure that we avoid them?
? Why, of all people, should Christians, who understand the universal application of Christ’s death on the cross, never “lift up faces” (see Monday’s study)? How can we recognize in ourselves the tendency to do just that (and don’t we fool ourselves if we deny that there is at least some tendency in us to do just that?)? How can the cross, and keeping the cross before us, cure us of this wrong attitude?
By A Correspondent- Finance minister Mthuli Ncube has explained the proposed US$50 cellphone levy which he said would apply to individuals who would have failed to pay duty on imported cellphones.
Ncube’s original proposal, which he made in the 2022 national budget, triggered a public outcry with Members of Parliament threatening to reject the Budget.
But during the debate on the Finance Bill in the Senate on Tuesday, Ncube said the US$50 levy was a mechanism to enforce the payment of the 25% duty. He said:
When it comes to other electronic gadgets, we have actually reduced the duty to zero. The only duty remaining is the 25% duty on phones. So what is the problem we trying to solve? The problem we are trying to solve is that no duty of 25% is being paid by anyone who is bringing phones into the country. Why? Because these are small gadgets, you put them in your pocket or wherever in your handbag and you pass through the border. No duty is paid.
We are not collecting anything. What we are trying to do is to design a mechanism that can enforce the payment of the 25% duty, hence this 50% levy. It is only payable if you cannot prove that you have paid the 25% duty. So it is not a duty, it is an enforcement mechanism to enforce the payment of the duty which already exists in the first place.
Senator Chief Ndlovu proposed that the Finance ministry should scrap off the levy or lower the payable levy as citizens were having challenges to reclaim the funds they would have paid to the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA).
Ndlovu added that companies that have got millions of dollars struggle to get their money from ZIMRA adding that was going to be worse for someone who is travelling from rural areas to come and claim a US$50 fee.
By A Correspondent-Violence is looming in Zanu PF after the party this week called for CV for candidates wishing to contest for the positions of provincial chairs.
In Mashonaland Central, the fight is on pitting incumbent chairman, Home Affairs minister Kazembe Kazembe, Grain Millers Association of Zimbabwe boss Tafadzwa Musarara and tycoon James Makamba.
Former Education minister Lazarus Dokora, who had earlier shown interest in running for the chairmanship, chickened out follows threats to his life.
NewZimbabwe
BY A CORRESPONDENT| State prosecutor Tafara Chirambira has exposed his bias by twisting facts and claiming that Pokugara Properties were the first to report Harare businessman George Katsimberis for fraud.
This is despite abundant evidence including a letter from the Special Anti-Corruption Unit (SACU) boss, Thabani Mpofu confirming in a letter to the Prosecutor General that Katsimberis who is a witness-cum-accused was the first to report Pokugara Properties, Kenneth Raydon Sharpe, Michael John Van Blerk and City of Harare officials to court for malicious damage to property and perjury.
In a High Court affidavit where he is opposing Katsimberis’ plea for a review of Harare Magistrate Letwin Rwodzi’s dismissal of an application for referral of his matter to the Constituonal Court, Chirambira also perjured himself by making shocking claims that he did not have approved plans for a show house he built at the corner of Teviotdale and Whitwell Road as part of a joint venture agreement with Sharpe.
“The narration of events by the applicant is not true or correct. Pokugara properties were the first to report the applicant to the police. Two months after the report, the applicant then counter reported to the police. For some reasons unknown, the police brought the applicant’s docket against Pokugara to court first even though his report had been received first,” said Chirambira.
Warned and cautioned statements recorded by the police on Pokugara Properties Managing Director Michael John Van Blerk and City of Harare officials confirm that Katsimberis reported them for malicious damage to property in June 2020.
In addition, a warned and cautioned statement signed by Katsimberis was done in August 2020, almost three months after the arrest of Pokugara Properties and City of Harare employees.
In a similar fashion to Van Blerk, Chisango and their respective organisations’ lies which landed them in trouble, Chirambira claimed that Katsimberis did not have approved plans for the show house he built as part of a joint venture agreement with Sharpe.
“The applicant did not submit the plans for approval to City of Harare. He indeed constructed a showhouse but he did the construction using substandard materials using an unapproved plan,” said Chirambira.
The issue of whether Katsimberis had approved plans or not is still to be determined by the court but he has already submitted evidence of payment in form of bank transfers to City of Harare.
He has also submitted a letter from City of Harare authenticating the stamps and signatures on the plans.

Comments and feedbacks should be cordial and constructive, and sent to [email protected] . Source: World Health Organization
By Wilbert Mukori- “We hope this vacuous regime will not renew the measures which imposed mandatory PCR tests and 10-day quarantine for everyone arriving in Zimbabwe,” Biti said.
Biti said Statutory Instrument 267 which followed Mnangagwa’s televised address was a “draconian, ill-thought piece of legislation typifying everything wrong with the regime.”
The omicron corona virus variant is real and although it is not as deadly as the other variants it is certainly more contagious. Zimbabwe’s economy is in ruins, its health service is all but collapsed and only 30% of the herd immunity have received the second vaccine jab. We will not cope if the omicron variant was to spread like a grass fire! We should at least do our best to try to stop it spreading like a grass fire.
The two options open to us are to accelerate the vaccination programme and ramp up the testing, tracing, tracking and isolation. Zimbabwe’s official covid-19 cases and deaths have remained very low compared to our neighbours but only because we have not been testing for the virus as per WHO recommendation and common-sense dictates.
The cheating was to give the false impression Zimbabwe had handled the pandemic well but this was foolish in that the failure to test, trace, track and isolate only allowed the virus to spread far and wide than it would have and thus result in even more cases and deaths.
The government should be criticised for failing to follow up on its promise to ramp up its testing, tracing, tracking and isolation and not encouraged to abandon it!
It is very possible that the government did not lift a finger to impose SI 267 for fear it will be accused of ruining Christmas!
What would real ruin Christmas is hundreds of thousands of very serious sick people in our hospitals, clinics and homes and the endless traffic into the cemeteries to bury the dead. Many of those with all the coronavirus symptoms will be listed down as having malaria or some such other disease because it is Zanu PF government policy to falsify the official covid-19 figures.
The regime is desperate to hide evidence of its blundering incompetence in handling the corona virus pandemic and bragging for having the lowest covid-19 figures in the region is a bonus!
Zimbabwe like many other countries in Africa has clearly been spared the worst of corona virus pandemic this far, the omicron variant could change all that. This is not the time for us to relax our guard, the little of it, for the sake of a few brownie points as the one who saved Christmas.
The omicron variant threat to health and death is real and both Zanu PF and MDC must stop playing politics with people’s lives!

By A Correspondent- The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has arrested a 53-year-old woman for smuggling her late husband’s Isuzu Double Cab from South Africa through an undesignated entry point.
The accused, Diana Simbisa Ruswaya, was arrested on Tuesday after the law enforcers had tracked the vehicle to Masvingo.
Below is the police statement on the case:
On 14/12/21, Police in Beitbridge arrested Diana Simbisa Rwauya (53) for a case of smuggling. The suspect smuggled an Isuzu Double Cab vehicle [JTK714MP] registered in the name of her late husband through an undesignated crossing point along the Limpopo River, Dite area.
A follow up was made through a tracking system leading to the recovery of the vehicle in Mucheke, Masvingo and the subsequent arrest of the suspect who tendered a forged temporary import permit and customs receipt to the police.
Some observers blamed the smuggling on high import duty charged at designated entry points.
Smuggling has been rampant in recent years and in some cases, Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA), Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) and or ZRP officials are accomplices.
Zimbabwe is losing an estimated US$1.5 billion every year through illicit trade, an issue that has remained difficult to solve since the country has porous borders and also because law enforcers are aiding those violating the laws.

Opposition legislator Tendai Biti has hinted at challenging the gazetting of Statutory Instrument 273 of 2021 which set the new passport fees while also declaring expiry dates for the current documents which will be replaced by the e-passports.
According to Biti, the Home Affairs minister Kazembe Kazembe acted outside the law when he gazetted SI 273 of 2021
“SI 273 of 2021 is blatantly unconstitutional. Kazembe Kazembe has acted outside powers provided to him by the Citizens Act Cap 4:01. That SI needs to be challenged in court . Enough of these roving bandits.Enough of a vacuous government driven by greed avarice & aggrandizement,” said Biti.
He also condemned the government move to decree that all passports will expire on a certain date saying this will be humongous multi billion dollar business for President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his cronies.
“It’s unprecedented that a regime can decree that all passports will expire on a certain date. The processing of new passports will be a humongous multi billion dollar business .It will also a logistical nightmare .This regime has no boundary,no morality , no limitations,no shame,” added Biti.
He further bemoaned the fact that business tycoon, Kudakwashe Tagwirei who is believed to hold controlling shares in CBZ bank got government to be the financial services provider used to pay for passport application.
Biti said Tagwirei has now gained control of the country as his interests now covers almost all economic sectors from fuel, foreign currency, gold mines, construction and command agriculture among others.
“Kuda Tagwireyi s greed is unprecedented so too that of person fronting him.He now controls fuel,fx,gold mines, platinum, the RBZ, Banks, pipe lines ,Road construction ,command agriculture , NOCZIM &Min of Finance. He controls Zimbabwe,” said Biti.

By A Correspondent- Zimdancehall artiste Energy Sylvester Chizanga, popularly known as Freeman, was on Tuesday questioned by police after a picture of himself and one of the three robbers gunned down during the Chadcombe shoot-out started circulating on social media.
The circulation of the picture and the shooting of the armed robbers came just a few days after Freeman released his album titled “Robbery”.
This prompted detectives from the CID Homicide Section to contact him so that he could clarify the association. Freeman was summoned at Harare Central Police Station on Tuesday morning where he was questioned and released after a few hours.
He said Chirara, who was shot dead by former CID detective Joseph Nemaisa, used to attend his shows as a fan.
Freeman said he was not aware that Chirara was an armed robber since he did not inquire much into his fans’ private lives.
The picture of Freeman and Chirara that has been circulating has a message which reads, “Freeman HKD Boss is seen with one of the robbers who was shot and killed last week at a house in Chadcombe.
“Is it by coincidence that he hangs around with robbers and his album is named Robbery.” The three armed robbers were shot and killed during a shoot-out after they had raided the Chadcombe home.
Police have since arrested three suspects so far in connection with the case. A number of firearms have also been recovered.
Nemaisa, doing business in Chisipite, sped home after getting a call from his son that the family was being attacked by robbers, climbed over his back wall, fired a couple of warning shots and then shot dead three of the armed robbers about to torture his wife with an electric iron and who had already assaulted his family.
More remarkably, two of the robbers were armed with rifles or assault rifles, but while severely out-gunned Nemaisa used his training and almost two decades of experience in the CID to win through.

By A Correspondent- Former president Jacob Zuma’s legal team believes that his special right to personalised medical care provided by the national defence force because of his status would be violated should he again be incarcerated.
Zuma being returned to jail would also be tantamount to “the death sentence”, according to his legal team. Attorneys for Zuma filed a notice on Wednesday to appeal the high court judgment that earlier on 15 December ordered the former president to return to prison to complete his 15-month sentence for contempt, on the grounds that his being granted medical parole by the then correctional services head and Zuma acolyte, Arthur Fraser, was unlawful. Both men were hit with cost orders. The Department of Correctional Services said that it too would be appealing the decision, as it was “convinced that another court may arrive at a different conclusion”. “DCS is of the view that the court sadly misinterpreted the Correctional Services Act and erred in declaring the decision of the National Commissioner to place Mr Zuma on Medical Parole to be unlawful and setting it aside. We will outline the grounds of appeal in the papers that we will be filing in court in due course,” said the department via a statement. It is likely Zuma’s legal team anticipated Wednesday’s loss at the North Gauteng High Court, with the appeal being papers released within a matter of hours of the judgment being handed down. Zuma’s leave to appeal suspends the order that he returns to prison. His legal team said there were “overwhelmingly good prospects of success” should the appeal be heard. The lawyers contend that Judge Keoagile Matojane erred or committed “gross misdirections of fact or law” when he failed to acknowledge, among other things, the “overwhelming evidence that no correctional facility in South Africa is capable of accommodating the undisputed medical needs of [Zuma], who is entitled to 24-hour medical care from the South African Medical Health Services (SAMHS).” “In this regard, the substitution order amounts to cruel and degrading punishment with no due regard to [Zuma’s] healthcare, dignity and other human rights. It is the antithesis of ubuntu….” Judge Matojane said in his judgment that Fraser granting the former president medical parole on 5 September, despite the Medical Parole Advisory Board (MPAB) just days earlier not recommending such, was an “unlawful intervention” that undermined respect for the country’s courts, the constitution, and the rule of law. Zuma was ordered back to prison, with the time he spent on medical parole not being counted as fulfilling part of his sentence. The urgent applications had been brought by the Democratic Alliance, Helen Suzman Foundation and AfriForum. The DA had sought that the parole decision be declared unlawful, reviewed and set aside and to substitute it with a decision refusing medical parole, and that Zuma be returned to prison. The Helen Suzman Foundation had sought an order that Zuma’s time on medical parole not be counted towards completion of his sentence. AfriForum had sought a declarator from the court that the MPAB is the statutory body to recommend the appropriateness of medical parole in terms of the Correctional Services Act, and that the national commissioner of correctional services could not make such a determination, and should refrain from doing so. This too was granted. The lawyers for the applicants argued that Zuma did not satisfy the requirements for medical parole as per the Act, because he was not “suffering from a terminal disease or condition” and was not “rendered physically incapacitated as a result of injury, disease or illness so as to severely limit daily activity or inmate self-care”. But in his application, Zuma’s legal team said that none of the three organisations had any business being involved in the court proceedings to challenge his release on medical parole as they were “pursuing a political rather than a legal agenda”. Too, according to Zuma’s legal team, the judge had erred when he “second-guessed” and/or overruled “the expert and professional opinion of qualified medical experts”, given that the applicants did not present contrary medical evidence from experts. The court itself did not have any medical expertise that was sufficient to make any contrary finding, according to the legal team. Fraser had said in his submission that he decided to grant medical parole to the “frail” 79-year-old, who has various comorbidities, on the strength of several medical reports from the military health service, and a report from Dr Mphatswe, a member of the Medical Parole Advisory Board. And, said Fraser, the head of Estcourt Correctional Centre, where Zuma was incarcerated, had expressed concern that should Zuma need medical assistance, the facility would not be able to provide “the type” needed. The newly refurbished Estcourt Correctional Centre has been hailed by correctional services as being “state of the art”, with an extensive medical wing, which is why Zuma was incarcerated there instead of at Westville prison, where he was initially meant to serve his sentence. Nevertheless, Fraser had also said that he overruled the Medical Parole Advisory Board because of exceptional circumstances: A former head of state had never previously been incarcerated, and should Zuma have died in prison, there was a fear that the type of violence experienced during the July riots could reoccur.

By A Correspondent- A group of suspected Zanu PF youths, Wednesday, stormed a Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition (CiCZ) annual general meeting (AGM) that was being held at a Bulawayo hotel, assaulted participants, and vandalised property. When NewsDay arrived at the scene, the rowdy gang had already left, but several delegates who were at the meeting were visibly injured and in pain. A participant said the youths pounced at the hotel, overpowered the security personnel at the entrance, and stormed into the main conference room where the meeting was taking place. It is alleged that the sudden attack on CiCZ members happened soon after Obert Masaraure (Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe president) was elected as spokesperson of the coalition, while Gamuchirai Mukura had been elected treasurer. The meeting was disrupted before the election of chairperson and the vice-chairperson. “They began attacking all the participants without explanation,” the witness said. CiZC outgoing chairperson Rashid Mahiya said they were holding their elective AGM when the youth budged in and disrupted the proceedings. “At exactly 3:30pm we were told that there were Zanu PF youths who wanted to gain entry into our meeting room. We asked for hotel security to keep them out, but they were overpowered by the youths. “We continued doing business until the youth got into the room and started beating up people. They threw chairs and desks all over the place. Some of the participants were women and people with disabilities,” Mahiya said, adding that the meeting had to be adjourned as people scurried for cover. He said the violence erupted in the presence of police officers, but not a single member of the gang was arrested. “In fact, they (police) are coming after us as the Crisis Coalition Zimbabwe, yet our meeting is properly constituted and is observing all the regulations that are supposed to be observed. We have seen some interest in our meeting as we seek to elect new leadership to the coalition, a new leadership that will address the governance, political violence and corruption crisis that we have in our country,” Mahiya said, adding that the coalition would not be intimidated by rowdy elements. CiCZ members said the violence signified what would characterise the 2023 elections. But Zanu PF Bulawayo chairperson Obert Msindo professed ignorance over the attack. “I have not heard anything concerning this issue,” Msindo said. Bulawayo police provincial spokesperson InspectorObert Msindo also said he had not yet received the report concerning the matter. “I am no longer at the office, but when I left, I had not heard of such a report,” he said.
Opposition MDC-T led by Douglas Mwonzora has refused to release the minutes of its national council meeting held on November 26, 2021, where leaders reportedly resolved to recall their vice-president Thokozani Khupe from Parliament.
In a joint urgent application filed at the Bulawayo High Court on Monday, Khupe, Gweru mayor Josiah Makombe, and Chitungwiza mayor Lovemore Maiko claimed they were being targeted for allegedly sympathising with ZANU PF and MDC Alliance leader, Nelson Chamisa.
In her founding affidavit, Khupe argued that the MDC-T had withheld the national council and its resolutions from her, adding that the party intended to recall her from Parliament.
However, MDC-T secretary-general Paurina Mpariwa, in the letter dated December 13, 2021, said the party could not release the minutes. She said:
Unfortunately, we are unable to furnish you with minutes of the national council meeting of November 26, 2021. First, these minutes are not yet ready as the officer responsible for compiling them, the chief of staff, Mr Collen Gwiyo, is out of office due to circumstances beyond his control.
Second, the minutes will only be usable by anyone, including ourselves, after they have been formally passed as a true record by the national council itself.
Third, these minutes contain confidential information of the party which goes beyond the issues you have raised. Given our response on whether or not the meeting resolved to recall your client, the minutes are irrelevant to this issue.
Mpariwa dismissed Khupe’s claims that the national council meeting resolved to recall her from Parliament, claiming that Khupe was a participant in the meeting and could have challenged the recall if it was discussed during the meeting.
By A Correspondent- The national broadcaster ZBC has launched six new channels as part of its mantra to grow the broadcasting sector, with three of them now operational.
The channels are Jive TV, Shasha, Dandaro, Sports 263, ZBC TV and ZBC News 24. Their focus ranges from entertainment, sport, current affairs, religion, lifestyle and documentaries. ZBC head of public relations Rumbie Moyo said three of the channels have started to operate with others set to operate at a later stage as the broadcaster is still working on the technicalities. “We recently launched six new channels of which three of them have started to air and these are ZBC TV, ZBC News and Jive TV. The channels are available on both Digital Terrestrial Transmission (DTT) and Direct to Home (DTH). “On DTT, one requires either an indoor or outdoor antenna to receive the signal and a compatible set top box (STB)/Decoder. With the advent of Digital Tvs (DTV) which are coming with inbuilt receivers, one only requires an indoor/outdoor antenna to scan for the channels. On DTH, one requires a compatible decoder, satellite receiving set (dish, lnb etc) and point their antenna to Eutelsat 7B and scan for the channels,” she said. Moyo said the channels cover a wide gap of what a fully-fledged broadcasting system of the country should be like. “Jive TV has a programming that is 100% music and entertainment-based. Sixty percent of the music will be from local artistes and entertainers while 25% will be from other African countries. The remaining 15% will be international content. “The aim of the channel will be to promote local artistes (even if they are based abroad). Programming will include lifestyle shows focused on entertainers. Major revenue streams for this channel are live shows as well as performances which will also bring in online streaming revenue,” said Moyo. She said Shasha channel will cater for local audiences who wish to watch international and regional dramas, documentaries as well as shows from other countries with elite lifestyle shows such as call in reality game shows constituting the main programming. “Dandaro is a channel that focuses on religion and traditional beliefs which constitute major lifestyle influencers. This channel will include any programming deemed religious or belief-based. Its main source of revenue will be churches wishing to broadcast their content to wider audiences. Religious music and motivational programming will also be classified as standard programming,” said Moyo. “Sports 263 channel will see sporting disciplines being able to get a slot on this channel. Programming will be done in association with various sports disciplines and the ministry to ensure only sports which adhere to the legal guidelines are broadcast. Horse racing and other betting sports will be broadcast in agreement with the relevant authorities. “ZBC TV channel is the national broadcasting channel which has a responsibility to incorporate minor communities and special interest groups as well as ensure all national agenda items are given prime programming slots. The programming is wide spectrum and is determined by current affairs in terms of topics for prime programming,” she said. Moyo said ZBC News 24 channel will mainly focus on news and current affairs alongside tourism and business-related programming featuring Zimbabwe as its prime source of content. “International news and updates as well as documentaries which are of major interest to Zimbabwean business and communities will be included in the programming. As the channel grows, all breaking news and discussions which affect national policy will take prime spots,” said Moyo. Chronicle

Tinashe Sambiri |The ZANU PF leader Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa has been told by his own relative he faces military action if rampant corruption continues.
Mnangagwa has been told by his own uncle, Chief Murinye that he has to change his behaviour.
Chief Murinye further has also declared that Mnangagwa will not cross the 2023 election if he fails to reprimand thieves around him.
Chief Murinye went to the extent of suggesting even approaching the Zimbabwe Defence Forces commander Valerio Sibanda to help. He said:
“Mnangagwa is my nephew, and if he doesn’t listen: you will not cross 2023; we are fed up we are fed up”
“We don’t want this anymore, looting in Zimbabwe should stop.
We don’t who wake up to steal every penny from the public, leaving people struggling with hunger.
ED has got a very good vision but he has thieves surrounding him, I don’t know if we should once again go to the military commander to ask him to repeat what he once did.”
