Police Raid S-x Party In DZ

By- The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has reported the arrest of 19 students from Corridors of Hope College, as well as individuals from nearby schools, who were on the verge of commencing a party in Dzivarasekwa. A police report, indicates that law enforcement officers intervened just before the initiation of the event and seized numerous items, including alcohol, wine, condoms, and shisha. The report states:

The ZRP confirms that a raid has been conducted at a sex party at number 153 Nehanda Dzivarasekwa Extension where some students from Corridors of Hope College and others from neighbouring schools were about to start the party. 19 students and the caretaker of the house, Pride Nyamugafata (20), have been arrested. Several bottles of alcohol, wines, condoms, shisha and its flavour have been confiscated. More details to be availed soon.

Reports of Vuzu or orgy parties have been on the rise in Zimbabwe. Incidents involving the arrest of students for participating in these parties have also been on the rise. One notable case occurred in November 2022 when police arrested 39 students from different schools in Bulawayo during a raid on a Vuzu party in the Khumalo suburb. In October 2021, 16 individuals were also apprehended in the Kuwadzana suburb of Harare on charges of public nuisance following a sex party. Vuzu parties are secret indoor gatherings, predominantly organised by teenagers, where alcohol consumption, drug use, and sexual orgies are prevalent.

Ten Arrested For Murdering Chamisa Supporter

By-Polive said they had arrested ten Zanu PF thugs for the murder of Tinashe Edson Chitsunge, a supporter of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC).

Chitsunge was tragically stoned to death by suspected ZANU PF supporters in Glen Norah, Harare, on Thursday. In an update the ZRP has confirmed that the suspects are currently under investigation and cooperating with the police. Reads the police update

Reference is made to the Glennorah violence which occurred on 03/08/23 resulting in the death of Tinashe Edson Chitsunge. ZRP confirms that 10 suspects have now been arrested and are assisting the Police with investigations.

Former Information Minister, Jonathan Moyo, praised the swift action taken by the police in response to the update. He commended the authorities for their efforts to bring the criminals responsible for Chitsunge’s murder to justice. He posted on Twitter:

This swift action is commendable @PoliceZimbabwe, the book should be thrown at the cowardly criminals who murdered Tinashe Chitsunge in such deplorable circumstances, to send a tough message to other similarly-minded criminal thugs out there that there is no place for them to hide!

Violence during elections has been an ongoing concern in Zimbabwe. Prior to the by-elections on 26th March 2022, 35-year-old Mbongeni Ncube, a member of the CCC, was fatally stabbed at a rally in Kwekwe. Suspected activists of the ruling ZANU PF party were arrested in connection with the incident. However, the latest information indicates that 11 out of the 16 suspects were granted bail, and no further updates have been provided. Ncube’s family, at some point went into hiding after reports that a key witness was being harassed.

Critics of the government argue that such acts of violence are employed as a means to intimidate voters into supporting candidates aligned with the ruling party. This manipulation of violence is seen as an attempt to influence the electorate and undermine the democratic process.

“Zimbabwe: Repression, Violence Loom over August Election”: HRW

  • Zimbabwe authorities have failed to take necessary steps to ensure that the general election slated for August 23 meets international standards for free and fair elections.
  • Use of repressive laws, partisan conduct by government agencies and election officials, and the opposition’s lack of access to many areas and to the voters roll create a flawed election process.
  • The African Union and SADC should press the government to take concrete measures to give election observers full access and allow people to vote free of intimidation.

(Johannesburg, August 3, 2023) – Zimbabwe authorities have failed to take necessary steps to ensure that the general election slated for August 23, 2023, meets international standards for free and fair elections, Human Rights Watch said in a report released today.

The 44-page report, “‘Crush Them Like Lice’: Repression of Civil and Political Rights Ahead of Zimbabwe’s August 2023 Election,” finds that the seriously flawed electoral process threatens the fundamental rights of Zimbabweans to freely choose their representatives. The electoral process has been undermined by the authorities’ adoption and use of repressive laws, the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission’s (ZEC) lack of impartiality, the Zimbabwe Republic Police’s partisan conduct and use of intimidation and violence against the opposition, the opposition’s lack of access to voter rolls, and impunity for individuals responsible for election-related abuses.

“Zimbabwe’s authorities have yet again demonstrated a lack of respect for the basic freedoms necessary for a credible, free, and fair election,” said Idriss Ali Nassah, senior Africa researcher at Human Rights Watch and lead author of the report. “The inability of many candidates to campaign freely and openly throughout Zimbabwe raises serious concerns about whether the election results will reflect the political will of Zimbabwe’s people.”

Human Rights Watch interviewed 28 people in April and May, including activists, journalists, opposition members, and victims of human rights abuses. Letters with questions sent to several government agencies and the ruling Zimbabwe African National Union–Patriotic Front (ZANU-PF) party received no response.

The pre-election environment in Zimbabwe poses many obstacles for the political opposition, Human Rights Watch said. The authorities have weaponized the criminal justice system against the ruling party’s opponents. Civil society activists and government critics expressed strong fears that the authorities intended to use the Private Voluntary Organizations Act and other laws to criminalize their activities ahead of the election.

The Criminal Law Codification and Reform Amendment Bill 2022, commonly known as the “Patriotic Bill,” which took effect in July, contains overly broad provisions that criminalize the rights to freedom of expression, peaceful assembly, and association.

Politicians from the main opposition party, the Citizens Coalition for Change, have been held in prolonged pre-trial detention or convicted on baseless, seemingly politically motivated charges. The party’s deputy spokesperson, Ostallos Siziba, said: “Right now, we cannot hold meetings in towns and cities, and we cannot go to the rural areas. ZANU-PF declared that rural areas are no-go zones for the opposition, and the ruling party causes violence any time the opposition tries to venture into the rural areas.”

The Zimbabwe police has selectively used the Maintenance of Peace and Order Act of 2019 to deny the opposition permission to hold meetings and campaign rallies, while allowing ZANU-PF to meet without hindrance.

ZANU-PF supporters have engaged in widespread harassment, threats, and acts of violence, preventing opposition parties from staging rallies, mobilizing, campaigning, and associating with supporters across the country.

There are also serious concerns about the independence, composition, and conduct of the ZEC. “The way the commission is constituted is a problem,” said a member of Heal Zimbabwe Trust, a national rights group. “Previously, the main political parties would second people to become commissioners, but the commissioners are now mostly chosen by the president after vetting by parliament. People lost confidence in the process because they think that the process is controlled by the state.”

Zimbabwe authorities should take all steps necessary to ensure that Zimbabwe police acts in a neutral and non-partisan fashion regarding the electoral campaign and all political parties’ activities, Human Rights Watch said. They should also ensure that police and other officials found responsible for human rights violations are held to account.

In April, President Emmerson Mnangagwa said that only election monitors from “friendly nations” will be invited to observe the elections. Since then, the European Union and a joint AU-Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa mission have been granted permission to monitor the elections. Because observers might not be allowed access to all parts of the country, there are concerns that election-related abuses and illegal practices will go unaddressed.

The Southern African Development Community (SADC) and African Union (AU) member states should press the government of Zimbabwe to ensure that national and international electoral observers will have access to all election sites, Human Rights Watch said. The government should guarantee that observers will be free to move throughout the country and able to report on any election-related intimidation and violence.

They should also urge the government to implement the SADC Principles and Guidelines Governing Democratic Elections and the African Charter on Democracy, Elections and Governance, and ensure that SADC and AU election observers remain in Zimbabwe for a sufficient period beyond the vote count to monitor possible post-election related human rights violations.

“The Zimbabwe government needs to take concrete measures before the election to meet its obligations under national and international law to allow people to vote free of intimidation, fear, and violence,” Nassah said. “So far nothing indicates the authorities are willing to do that.”

ED Wants Sanctions To Stay

President Emmerson Mnangagwa yesterday said sanctions should stay as they have prompted government to “think outside the box” and innovate.

Mnangagwa made the remarks at Hwange Stadium during the commissioning of Hwange Thermal Power Station’s Units 7 and 8.

“We have had sanctions for the last 23 years now,” he said.

“We have resources that keep us alive despite the sanctions. In fact, I for one would say let the sanctions stay because they make us think outside the box and become innovative.”

Chinese ambassador to Zimbabwe, Guo Shaochun said his country would continue to support government towards the attainment of vision 2030.

Units 7 and 8 are set to feed 600 megawatts (MW) into the national grid.

Government is expanding the 920MW Hwange Thermal Power Station by adding the two units at a cost of US$1,4 billion, with 85% of the funding coming from China.

Unit 7 started feeding into the national grid in March.

Zimbabwe’s power challenges have been blamed on poor investment in the sector, with government encouraging the adoption of solar energy and removing duty on related material for domestic use.

Mnangagwa also spoke against political violence ahead of the August 23 elections.

“We are a peaceful nation,” he said.

Zanu PF Manicaland Executive Member Orchestrated Violence Against CCC Supporters in Honde Valley

By Peterson Matarutse| A Zanu PF Manicaland executive member and war veteran popularly known as Cde Tins Samanga is alleged to have planned the orgy of violence that rocked Honde Valley after CCC held its rally at Hauna Growth Point.

The controversial war veteran known for his penchant of violence is said to have gathered Zanu PF youths around Gatsi village close to Hauna where the CCC held its rally. He is said to have instructed the youths to bar and threaten their peers not to attend the rally.

“As early as 9 in the morning, Tins was rounding Zanu PF youths in Gatsi to intimidate anyone who wanted to attend the CCC rally.

” The youths were being given Super (alcohol) which he was carrying in his Zanu PF branded vehicle, “revealed a source who requested anonymity.

However, there was outright defiance as thousands of youths walked on foot, braved a chilly weather and endured long hours waiting for CCC leader Nelson Chamisa to address them.

Before the arrival of Chamisa, some Zanu PF thugs including former ruling party councillor Tsarukanai Chinanho were moving around Hauna Growth Point pasting their campaign posters on CCC posters.

“The Zanu PF guys were provoking people by going around pasting their posters on CCC rally posters. Some vendors were heard saying because of such antics by the ruling party they were going to give a sympathy vote to the opposition,” said one on-looker who witnessed the incident.

In a turn of events, the above mentioned Zanu PF thugs are said to have followed the address by Chamisa from a distance before joining the crowd where some of them openly admitted that Chamisa was charismatic.

It is believed that after learning of the eccentric crowd at CCC rally, Cde Tins hurriedly organised another batch of Zanu PF youth hoodlums from his area, Dumba, where they then waylaid the convoy of CCC President Nelson Chamisa.

“Tins was dismayed by the defiance of youths from Gatsi who despite the threats made their way to the venue. He then opted to go to his home area in Dumba village where he gathered a few Zanu PF youths including his nephews.

” They then blocked the road from Gwiriri up to the Nyanga-Mutare highway smashing windows of the vehicles ferrying CCC members but had it not been the instruction from President Nelson Chamisa we were itching for a fight.

” We would have outnumbered them and we were ready to defend ourselves. We wish some of our members who got injured a speedy recovery,” said a CCC supporter who requested anonymity for fear of victimisation.

The war veteran and Zanu PF Manicaland executive member Cde Tins is notorious for perpetrating violence. Having a disfigured mouth from war injury , he brags that the scar shows ‘resistance’ to imperialists and regime change agenda.

Samanga could not be reached for a comment.

Senior Cop Threatened By Deputy Minister “Missing”

By A Correspondent- A senior police officer, Assistant Inspector Chester Last Matsa, who received threatening remarks from Deputy Tourism Minister Barbra Rwodzi after arresting a ZANU PF member, has reportedly gone missing.

The police radio issued from Shurugwi Police Station announced Matsa’s absence and requested his arrest if located. Matsa had been transferred to Shurugwi from Charandura Police Station after a leaked recording of his conversation with Rwodzi went viral. In the audio, Rwodzi verbally abused Matsa and threatened him for arresting Fidelis Danger, a member of her party who was taking down opposition party campaign posters. Rwodzi was recorded saying:

I will finish this with you in front of (Commissioner General of the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Godwin Thandabantu) Matanga. You’re an idiot… You think CCC will win? You’re a dog! You’re a dog! Go and file a complaint wherever you want, you’re a dog. Stupid!

Matsa filed a police complaint against Rwodzi in Gweru on July 17, 2023, but no update was provided after police issued a statement saying the matter was under investigation. In his complaint which named Rwodzi as the accused person, Matsa said:

The accused person threatened the complainant with harm over the phone.

The Zimbabwe Human Rights Monitors Platform expressed concern over the incident, stating that it was a dangerous sign of a slide towards authoritarianism to intimidate and harass law enforcement officials for political gain

Mnangagwa Declares Victory Before Polls

The Zanu PF leader Emmerson Mnangagwa addressed party members in Bulawayo on Wednesday.

Speaking at a star rally in the city of Kings, Mnangagwa claimed victory before polls.

Snippets from President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s ZANU PF Bulawayo Star Rally Address:

I am very happy to be in The City of Kings and Queens. Thank you Bulawayo Omuhle for coming out in your numbers to support the party. Your presence is proof of your determination to protect our vote, freedom, peace and unity…

I thank you all Bulawayo Province, Well done.

I commend you for the great peace even upon provocation from pseudo-political parties.

Zimbabwe is a unitary state, we are a very peaceful and humble people, we are one PEOPLE.

ZANU PF IS people’s is a party for and by the people. We brought democracy from the protracted liberation struggle.

This month, we are going to be remembering our heroes and heroines who laud their lives for our independence. We honour all of them.

On the 23rd of August, we want to vote for ZANU PF to ensure a resounding victory, ZANU PF won yesterday, it will win tomorrow.

ZANU PF is unstoppable.

The opposition has failed across the country, and all the local authorities they control are a shame… Shame, shame, shame on you the opposition!

ZANU PF delivers, it is about action yet all the opposition does is talk with no tangible results.

Under our party, we are on the road to delivering a higher quality of life, we are a people’s party, and sustainable development is seen everywhere.

ZANU PF is uncontested in some parts of Bulawayo, not because it stopped anybody, but because they stopped themselves.

Victory is certain, victory is on the horizon, the sun is coming up and it will only shine for ZANU PF.

I want to remind the opposition that the State House is very far. They’d rather walk to America on foot than dream of ever reaching the State House.

In the last three years, Zimbabwe has been the fastest-growing economy in SADC.

We are building our country on the basis of our own domestic resources.

Under the Second Republic, we have plans to revitalise Bulawayo into an industrial hub.

The first port of call is water provision.

Nyamandlovu Aqua Farm was my first step, followed by the Gwayi-Shangani Dam. Once all these are complete, water woes will be history

The second is energy, hence we built Hwange 7 and 8 with help from China.

Each one of us, as long as we are Zimbabwean, should engage in production.

There are three principles you should teach your children; Nyika inovakwa, igonamatirwa, igotongwa nevene vayo.

I am upgrading Beitbridge Border Post. Joshua Nkomo Airport has more airlines coming into Bulawayo because of the Second Republic and work has begun to upgrade the Beitbridge- Bulawayo-Victoria Falls highway.

I don’t want bullying in schools, our children must respect each other and be patriotic that we leave the country in safe hands.

I am aware that some of our families have been staying in houses for about 30 years with no title deeds, but under The Second Republic, we will ensure that they all have title deeds.

This is the philosophy of ZANU PF that no one and no place will be left behind.

Under the Second Republic, international sport is coming to Zimbabwe.

We are also refurbishing Babourfields Stadium, the home of Highlanders who are doing very well with 17 games unbeaten. Congratulations Highlanders!!!!!!!

Young people must reject and refuse the use of drugs, no nation can develop under the use of drugs.

We, your leaders want to leave Zimbabwe better than we found it, but we don’t want to leave it to a drunk generation.

Zimbabwe is a friend to all and an enemy to none, but there is nothing we can do about those who choose to hate us.

We have invited foreign observers to come for our elections, but those countries who have already taken a position on the elections are not welcome.

We are inviting those who are not biased, we have upheld constitutionalism by holding elections every 5 years.

Once again I want to express my gratitude, as I conclude, to you Bulayo omuhle for coming, we shall remain one people, united and working towards one goal.

We are solid, we know where we want to go and forward we go.

23 August, the People’s victory is achievable under ZANU PF.

Now I say to you, we want peace, shun violence, and guard against detractors who may lead you astray.

I THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!

Supreme Court Dismisses Hopewell Chin’ono’s Fake News Against CCC, Byo 12

Supreme Court Clears 12 Citizens Coalition for Change Candidates to Contest General Election**

By Farai D Hove | In a significant turn of events, the Supreme Court has granted an appeal filed by the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), allowing 12 of its parliamentary candidates to contest in the upcoming general election. The three-panel bench overturned the High Court’s previous verdict, which had alleged that the candidates had submitted their nomination papers after the stipulated deadline.

The CCC 12

The Respondents were ZANU PF members who were socially backed by filmmaker Hopewell Chinono who claimed the candidates had been sabotaged by their leader, Nelson Chamisa. (pic)

The decision came after an intense legal battle that captured the nation’s attention. The CCC, through its legal team, vehemently contested the High Court’s ruling, maintaining that they had submitted their nomination papers well within the designated timeframe. They cited procedural issues and discrepancies in the submission process that had led to the misunderstanding.

The three-panel bench of the Supreme Court carefully reviewed the evidence presented by both parties and deliberated on the matter extensively. After careful consideration, they ruled in favor of the CCC, validating the timely submission of the nomination papers by the 12 candidates.

The Supreme Court’s decision brings relief to the CCC and its candidates, who were facing the possibility of being disqualified from the electoral race. With the cloud of uncertainty lifted, the 12 cleared candidates can now focus on their campaign efforts and articulate their vision for the nation’s future.

This landmark ruling highlights the crucial role of the judiciary in ensuring a fair and transparent electoral process. It serves as a reminder that every citizen’s right to participate in the democratic process must be upheld and protected.

As the general election approaches, the CCC and its candidates are expected to intensify their efforts to connect with voters and garner support for their platform. The electorate now holds the power to decide the fate of these candidates at the polls.

This breaking news will undoubtedly have significant implications for the political landscape, and citizens across the country will closely monitor how this development shapes the upcoming election. Stay tuned as we provide further updates on the unfolding political scenario.

Warriors Hopeful Joins Reading

Reading are reportedly keen to sign Tivonge Rushesha after the youngster impressed during trials over the past week.

Rushesha has been raining with English League One club following his departure at Swansea after the end of his contract.

The Zimbabwe-born youngster plays as a midfielder and has also been used as defender.

According to Reading Chronicle, both parties being keen on a move, the club are unable to register any more players for the EFL until the HMRC issue is resolved.

Coach Ruben Selles admitted they are pursuing the player.

“Absolutely. Tivonge has done a great job since he came in pre-season so we are just looking to formally add him to the squad,” he said.

“I think he is still a player who should be between our squad and Under-23 side but I think he has a lot of football in his legs. I know he has a brain to understand situations so I think he can be a really good player for Reading. One thing at a time.

“When we register him he can play for us. Maybe at the beginning of the season he will have more chances for a club like us because we lack some players, but we have a player there who could be important to us.”

Rushesha has represented Wales at international youth level and is still eligible to play for Zimbabwe.-Soccer24 News

Mwaruwari Son Finds Club In England

Benjani Mwaruwari Jr has joined a new club in England.

Mwaruwari, who is the son of Warriors legend Benjani, has left English sixth-tier side Yeovil Town to join seventh division club Dorchester Town on a season-long loan deal.

He has moved to the new club along with Yeovil teammate Ollie Haste .

“Dorchester Town Football Club are delighted to announce the double loan signing of Ollie Haste and Benjani Jr from Yeovil Town (subject to FA approval),” the seventh tier club announced on their website.

“The duo arrive at The Avenue on season-long deals, and having both featured against The Magpies for their parent club in our pre-season fixture against Yeovil Town, both Haste and Benjani Jr impressed in our friendlies against Wimborne Town and Eastleigh starting as trialists wearing numbers #11 and #10 respectively.”

The 18-year-old Benjani Jr has wasted no time in making an impression at Dorchester Town as he scored his first goal for the club on Tuesday night against Eastleigh.

Dorchester coach Glenn Howes said about the young striker: “Benjani is little bit different to what we have and he offered us a huge spark out there. He’s got that little bit of magic, little bit of creativity in the final third dropping off into spaces, and he’s tenacious for an 18-year-old – he’s not just got ability, his work ethic is really impressive as well.

“He’s going to need a bit of patience as it’s his first full season at this level, but he’s had a really good pre-season with Yeovil and starting to turn heads.”-Soccer24 News

I Am Poised For Victory – Chikohora

By A Correspondent

Zimbabwe Coalition for Peace and Development (ZCPD) leader Trust Chikohora says he has the charisma to move the country forward.

Chikohora is one of 2023 Presidential Election candidates.

According to Chikohora, Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa is now an old man who cannot cope with the dynamics of the modern day politics.

“Indeed age is a factor, we are saying the current President has played his part and he has to allow a young and energetic leader like myself to take this country to another level of prosperity.

Let us be balanced, we can’t just denounce everything, President Mnangagwa is a security expert but in terms of the economy something is amiss.

As you know, I have a strong financial background and therefore can revive the waning economy, “said Chikohora.

Mavaza Says: CCC Humiliated After Saying Judiciary Is Captured

By Dr Masimba Mavaza | The recent decision by the Supreme Court to grant clearance to the 12 Bulawayo CCC parliamentary contenders is a clear indication of the robustness and independence of Zimbabwe’s judiciary. Contrary to the CCC’s claims that the judiciary is captured, this decision shows that the courts are impartial and capable of making fair rulings.

Masimba Mavaza

It is essential to highlight the principle of the rule of law, which implies that no individual or organization is above the law, and the government itself is subject to the law. In the context of Zimbabwe, the government has consistently complied with legal requirements in all jurisdictions, and it has adequately enforced laws and regulations. Zimbabwe has always respected the rule of law, and the judiciary’s recent decision is a reaffirmation of this fact.

Dr Mavaza with Cde Nyathi

However, it is disheartening to witness the selective acceptance of the judiciary’s decisions by the CCC. When a ruling goes in their favor, they celebrate it, but when it does not align with their interests, they are quick to impugn the judiciary’s partiality. This behavior undermines the credibility of their claims and raises questions about their commitment to democratic values.

Moreover, it is crucial for all political parties, including the CCC, to focus on the issues, policies, and democratic aspirations of the people rather than allowing disputes over candidate eligibility to overshadow the electoral discourse. Engaging in Strategic Ambiguity, as seen in the case of the 12 Bulawayo CCC contenders, only begets confusion and undermines the democratic process.

Furthermore, it is essential for political leaders and their followers to cultivate maturity and respect court verdicts, irrespective of their own preferences. Upholding the rule of law means accepting the decisions of the judiciary, even if they go against one’s interests. Zimbabwe’s judiciary has made decisions in the past that favored the opposition, demonstrating its independence and impartiality.

In light of the recent Supreme Court decision, it is high time for the CCC to acknowledge the integrity of the judiciary and refrain from making baseless claims saying it’s captured. The judiciary’s independence is crucial for a functioning democracy, and all political parties must support and uphold its autonomy. Demonizing the judiciary when rulings do not go in their favor only serves to undermine public trust in the legal system.

In conclusion, the recent Supreme Court decision in favor of the 12 Bulawayo CCC contenders is a testament to the robustness and independence of Zimbabwe’s judiciary. The CCC should learn from this and respect the rule of law by accepting court verdicts without selective acceptance. Zimbabwe’s commitment to the rule of law is evident, and it is essential for all political parties to uphold and respect the independence of the judiciary for the sake of a healthy and vibrant democracy.

Bulawayo Chamisa MPs Back On The Ballot

By-The Supreme Court has granted the appeal of 12 Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) parliamentary candidates, clearing them to contest in the upcoming general election scheduled for August 23.

The party announced in a Twitter post that ZANU PF triggered the case. Read the post:

Our 12 Bulawayo MPs are back on the ballot box. This was a desperate attempt by Zanu PF to smuggle their unelectable members into parliament. Bulawayo is an integral part of the election process and cannot be ignored.

The candidates were disqualified for submitting their nomination papers to the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) through a third party, a police officer, in violation of the Electoral Act. In his ruling, Justice Bongani Ndlovu had declared that the separation of the papers from the CCC candidates through the medium of the police officer to be unlawful. He further noted that the Electoral Act requires the candidate or their agent to be present in court and ready to submit their papers at 4 pm, rather than just the papers being present.

CCC candidates had given their nomination papers to the police officer following the instruction of the ZEC nomination officer for Bulawayo, Mr I. Ncube. ZEC officials have claimed that Ncube instructed the police officer to collect the papers shortly before 4 pm, as the courtroom was about to close and was too small to accommodate all candidates who were queueing to submit their papers. The Supreme Court’s decision clears the way for the CCC candidates to participate in the election.

The ruling may have an implication on the case of Industry and Commerce Deputy Minister Raj Modi, a ZANU PF member, in which a voter applied to have him disqualified.

Mnangagwa Hints On Coup Against Chamisa If CCC Wins 23 August Elections

By- Zanu PF Presidential candidate Emmerson Mnangagwa said he won not step down if he loses the 23 August elections.

In his own words, Mnangagwa said the Zimbabwean “state house is very far,” emphasizing that it won’t be easy for the opposition to attain power.

He made the remarks during a Zanu PF rally at Mkhithika Thebe Primary School in Cowdray Park, Bulawayo, where he was rallying supporters to vote for the party and Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube, who is vying for the Cowdray Park National Assembly seat.

Taking to the podium, Mnangagwa outlined his government’s achievements since taking over from Robert Mugabe. He also highlighted his administration’s plans to develop Bulawayo, including ensuring access to water through the Nyamandlovu Aquifer and the Gwayi-Shangani Dam, which is reportedly 70% complete. He said:

Under the second republic, we have plans to develop Bulawayo. Firstly, we want to make sure there is water.

My first step was the Nyamandlovu Aquifer, my second step is building the Gwayi-Shangani Dam, once that is completed, you will say ‘bye bye’ to water challenges.

The state house is very far. If they [the opposition] go to America, it will be much easier.

Benjani Mwaruwari Finds New Club

Reading Eager To Sign Zim Youngster

More About Sexual Misconduct

Tackling all forms of sexual misconduct

Sexual misconduct – exploitation, sexual abuse, sexual harassment (SEAH), sexual violence – by our personnel violates the rights and well-being of the people we serve and the people with whom we serve. Such behaviours are directly in opposition to WHO’s values and our abiding responsibility to do no harm.

Sexual exploitation and abuse (SEA) of the populations we serve, and sexual harassment (SH) of our own workforce require similar prevention and response approaches because they stem from the same power differentials, inequities, drivers, and risks. Using the umbrella term, sexual misconduct, clarifies that these acts pertain to the WHO workforce, are prohibited, and therefore lead to disciplinary action.

WHO has zero tolerance for any form of sexual misconduct, for inaction and for retaliation against those who raise complaints or bear witness. Our work prioritizes the rights and needs of victims and survivors.

In 2021, WHO launched an intense period of prevention and response actions following the harrowing accounts of victims and survivors of SEA during the 10th Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo encapsulated in the Management Response Plan that concluded in December 2023. To build on and institutionalize this progress, our future work is framed by the three-year strategy for preventing and responding to sexual misconduct.

Supreme Court Reinstates 12 CCC Candidates Barred By The High Court

By A Correspondent| In a recent development, the Supreme Court has overturned the decision of the Bulawayo High Court to bar 12 Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) candidates and four others from participating in the upcoming parliamentary elections on August 23.

A three-panel bench, presided by Justice Tendai Uchena, unanimously reached the decision to allow the CCC candidates to contest in the elections.

Justice Uchena stated, “This is a unanimous decision of the court. After carefully considering SEB 59/23, appeals be and are hereby allowed with costs. Judgment of the court a quo be set aside. The (High Court) applications are hereby dismissed with costs. Reasons to follow.”

The Bulawayo High Court had previously disqualified the 12 CCC candidates, claiming that they submitted their nomination papers after the 4 PM deadline on June 21. However, the candidates have vehemently denied this accusation.

Following the Supreme Court’s ruling, Finance Minister Professor Mthuli Ncube, along with 11 other Zanu PF candidates, who were initially set to win their seats uncontested, will now have to participate in the August 23 polls.

The bench, comprised of Justices Uchena, Alfas Chitakunye, and Hlekani Mwayera, has stated that the detailed reasons behind their judgment will be provided in due course.

I Have Nation’s Trust – Chikohora

By A Correspondent| Zimbabwe Coalition for Peace and Development (ZCPD) leader Trust Chikohora says he has the charisma to move the country forward.

Three Pillars Of Mining

practical lessons to mining

Like every business mining has its key factors that can make it do extremely well or fail .

Most miners think a good sample will make them succeed unfortunately a good sample is not sustainable unless you know the importance of the following factors in the mining sector. If you master them day by day you will blossom even in dark days and enjoy glory days to the fullest.

Enjoy the ride .
Three pillars of wholesome mining in order
1 strategic management
2 Debt
3 the boss ” gold panner ” tsheketsha korokoza

1 strategic management
The mine manager is key to function his impact is so crucial such his complete absence can be measured by a lot of red flags like low output ; loss of equipment; no records ; lack of proper compliance and production that cannot be measured let alone be sustainable. Before you appoint a manager know your weakness and hire someone who will compliment your weakness. Secondly create a management team that involves you and him stop cellphone management of any kind . Cellphones are good for reports and analysis only . To your team third person in form of someone who compliments his weak ; it can be a blaster or cyanide plant manager depending on which area your manager is good at .

First attribute of your manager should be administration before anything then followed by one of the two pillars of mining leaching and mining. The security guard is not part of

In “Business”
causes of all Debts you hear about in mining stories. First artisanal miners use cheapest means to reap gold Most cases they don’t have transport and milling means this leads to smart loans by service providers then all problems begin here .

On top of that all services are available on short term based loan usually supported by black market indirectly which explains why black market cannot disappear overnight.

Since gold is not guaranteed failure to pay these loans forces credit to accumulate to so high levels such that its not surprising to find a mine owner or even worker owing 20 000usd or more ranging from diesel credit, stampmill credit, explosives credit ; rental and electricity credit for domestic purposes or many more . Inorder to survive you have to acquire debt management skills that are not only superb but partnered with discipline. When you decide to invest in a mine a guy with more debt is the perfect partner depending on your analysis because of few factors. If he/she has more it means his mine has a huge potential just mismanagement who can borrow someone with no means to pay .

Number two you use his/ her debt as insurance through what l call debt purchase ” . This desires caution carefully study and implementation. You take his debt but still keep it in his name negotiate for payment plan where possible complete erasing of some of them ( that’s possible ) then use his debt to double you investment on him takes years repairing his debt yet already making profits on it . Let’s miner F owes EMA 3000usd for bills and tickets ; 1500usd ministry of mines tickets; 2000usd stamp mill and 4500usd for car loan and family expenses to make 11 000usd yet you want to invest 25 000usd in his mine you just raise 14 000usd buy his 11 000usd debt ask for payment from ministry of mines and EMA then ask to pay half for stampmill debt or complete erasure then negotiate for transfer of registration first things first then you are in the game .Debt purchase is easier route into a full operational mine . Sometimes you buy personal debt only but be cautious. Will cover debt in a separate post .
3 The boss “tsheketsha; korokoza “
We have a saying ” impara ngelikatsheketsha ” . This means every goldminer has a dry spell or good spell . This means no matter how cautious you are the dry spell will hit you very hard . When supporting this guys financial remember this all the time support them based on performance in areas Iike 1 transparency; consistency, accountability more than the sample. Don’t support them when they are doing well by buying cars and houses at that point they don’t need your help they simply want to use you . Treat them as Kings all the time but don’t borrow them money like you are mother Theresa support them don’t spoiler them hunger and suffering is the manager of “the boss ” the rest is cost .

Respect them their dirty is the business part personally any clean person in the mining sector Most probably is a scammmer l don’t trust such lots of them proved to me beyond doubt .

NB for debt purchase model inbox or even debt purchase itself.

Mnangagwa Personalizes State House

President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa has reminded the country’s main opposition party Citizens Coalition for Change leader Nelson Chamisa that State house is still far for him.

Addressing thousands of ruling party supporters in Cowdray Park this afternoon, Mnangagwa said the main opposition has done nothing since its inception into the political arena.

He added that all municipalities they control are in shambles.

“Zanu-PF has been winning and it won yesterday, it will win today, tomorrow and forever, as it is an unstoppable colossal electoral juggernaut.”

“Under our party Zanu-PF we are in a road to deliver high quality life for our people offering sustainable development for our people living no one and no place behind and it’s only Zanu-PF that has that philosophy and we are masters of our own destiny,” he said.

Bindura Magistrate Frees Community Mobiliser Accused Of Contravening MOPO

By A Correspondent| Bindura Magistrate Joyline Mudhege on Tuesday 1 August 2023 set free Onai Chitakunye, a community mobiliser and a member of Institute for Young Women’s Development (IYWD), after she stood trial on charges of convening an unsanctioned meeting in contravention of section 7(1)(b) as read with section 5 of the Maintenance of Peace and Order (MOPO) Act.

Chitakunye was arrested by Zimbabwe Republic Police members on 29 July 2022 after she was accused of convening an illegal meeting which was attended by 80 people on 29 June 2022 at Mayfair Lodge in Bindura, without giving notice in writing to Chief Superintendent Gladman Chiparaushe, the ZRP Officer Commanding Bindura District, for approval.

But on Tuesday, Chitakunye, who was represented by Tinashe Chinopfukutwa and Kelvin Kabaya of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR), was relieved after Magistrate Mudhege found her not guilty of committing the alleged offence and discharged and acquitted her at the close of the prosecution case.

Magistrate Mudhege ruled that prosecutors failed to prove a prima facie case against Chitakunye as there were no essential elements proven for the offence she was charged with.

The Magistrate ruled that no evidence had been led by prosecutors during trial upon which a court can reasonably rely on to convict Chitakunye.
Magistrate Mudhege also ruled that the alleged unsanctioned meeting was exempted from the requirements of notifying ZRP.

Chitakunye is the latest person to be rescued by ZLHR among a long list of persons arrested and charged with contravening provisions of the MOPO Act.
On 8 June 2023, two IYWD team members namely Sandra Zenda and Kudakwashe Munemo, were acquitted after standing trial on charges of contravening the MOPO Act.

Children Drown In A Disused Mine Left By A Chinese Miner

Two children recently drowned at a disused mine pit at Mbalabala in Matabeleland South amid complaints by the family that the Chinese mining company Ming Chang mine owner only gave them US$100 compensation.

The accident happened on July 15 according to the mother of the children Anastancia Mutandirwa.

She accused the Mines and Mining Department and the Environmental Management Agency of neglecting the enforcement of the law to ensure that miners adhere to proper standards of mining in the area.

She said the pits are close to their residence at the mining area where the children’s father works.

Mutandirwa said while three children were playing, they fell into the pit and two drowned.

“We managed to rescue only one of them. Police were called and they retrieved the bodies and took them to Filabusi Hospital before they were taken to the United Bulawayo Hospital for postmortem,” she said.

The children have since been buried in Bulawayo and Mutandirwa said the Chinese did not fully show compassion on their loss of children.

She expressed concerns that police did not inform them on what they would do to the Chinese.

She also complained that nothing had been done to the Chinese for leaving pits open.

Matabeleland South Acting Provincial Mining director Khumbulani Mlangeni expressed ignorance about the issue.

“No report was made to the office in order to investigate and establish if the alleged miner has a bonafide title or not and take corrective action,” Mlangeni said.

Matabeleland South Acting Police spokesperson assistant Inspector Thandolwenkosi Moyo said he was not yet aware of the accident.

Matabeleland South EMA manager Decent Ndlovu confirmed the accident.

“We will go on the ground to investigate, that matter is really disturbing,” Ndlovu said.

Company’s Human Resources manager Clyne Nyamandwe was not available for comment.

Professional and General Mine Workers Union of Zimbabwe (PGMWUZ) Abraham Kavalanjila in a statement said the authorities were negligent by allowing the miner to mine close to where its workers stay.

Kavalanjila said Section 28 of SI 182 of 1995 ” subject to the authority of the Mine Manager, a Personnel Manager shall be responsible for the supervision and control of the employees and residence of the Mine township and procuring immediate treatment in all cases of sickness which come to this notice.

He said Section 29 (1) at every Mine where accommodation is provided, such accommodation shall be to the satisfaction of the Environmental Health Officer, (2) were it is proposed to erect premises a plan which shall indicate the specification set out in the fourth schedule shall be submitted for the approval of the Environmental Health Officer.

“So according to the above Statutory requirement, the Mine owner is at fault, the Ministry of Mines is at fault and EMA is at fault because they should have not been authorized mining near the premises of the residence,” he said.

“This contributed to the loss of two innocent minors, 9 years and 13 years old.” He said the amount given to the family by the Chinese was ridiculous.

“We call upon relevant authorities to take immediate action on this matter,” he said.

Mavaza: Chamisaguity Has Backfired Badly

By Dr Masimba Mavaza | The recent disqualification of 12 Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) candidates from participating in the forthcoming National Assembly elections has stirred up heated debate, with accusations and finger-pointing being thrown around. However, upon closer examination, it becomes evident that the blame squarely rests on CCC’s shoulders due to their self-imposed “strategic ambiguity” and poor organizational preparation.

CCC’s tactic of “strategic ambiguity,” as claimed by party leader Nelson Chamisa, aimed to safeguard candidates and prevent infiltration by ZANU PF. However, this tactic backfired when the candidates submitted their nomination forms at the last minute, exposing the party’s lack of preparation despite the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) providing ample time for the nomination process.

The party’s delay in submitting their papers was a result of their lack of internal structure and reliance on Chamisa alone to handle all candidates. This disorganization is a fault of their own making, and their attempt to blame ZANU PF for disqualifying the 12 is unjustified.

In reality, CCC’s failure to meet basic electoral obligations and their lack of coordination and strategy highlight a political entity caught in a whirlwind of confusion and disorganization. Such inefficiency raises concerns about their capability to govern effectively if given the chance.

Chamisa’s approach to CCC leadership has been criticized for sidelining other party members like Biti and NCUBE, showcasing his dictatorial tendencies. This selfishness has caused confusion during the nomination process, affecting CCC’s chances in the upcoming elections.

The blame game employed by CCC is not only frivolous but also misleading. By avoiding responsibility for their mishaps and pointing fingers at others, CCC seeks sympathy and attempts to challenge election results. This tactic of using the courts to correct their sloppiness is an abuse of the legal system.

The glaring oversight of one of CCC’s candidates being caught on camera in Harare when the Nomination Court in Bulawayo closed further undermines the credibility of CCC’s claims. It paints a vivid picture of a party lacking coordination, foresight, and strategy.

Democracy demands accountability, capability, and competency, qualities that CCC has failed to exhibit in its handling of the nomination process. The strategy of ambiguity has only led to confusion and chaos within the party, earning them the title of “Convergence of Confused Citizens.”

The blame for the delay in the CCC 12 rests solely on CCC’s shoulders due to their self-imposed “strategic ambiguity” and organizational shortcomings. Instead of pointing fingers at others, CCC should take responsibility for its actions and learn from its mistakes to improve and gain the trust of the electorate in the future. Zimbabwe’s future depends on the ability of political parties to prioritize development and democracy, rather than engaging in blame games and disorganization.

CCC Apologizes To Electorate Over Candidate Selection Confusion

Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) vice-president Welshman Ncube has apologised to the electorate for disputes around issues of candidate selection in the party.

He said the Nelson Chamisa-led main opposition party and its supporters needed to work together to remove Zanu PF from power.

Ncube made the remarks while addressing party supporters at Sidzibe, Insiza cluster rally in Matabeleland South province recently.

CCC supporters in the Matabeleland region complained bitterly over the imposition of candidates they described as outsiders at the expense of locals.

The supporters complained about the sidelining of senior party leaders such as Ncube and co-vice-president Tendai Biti in major decision-making processes.

“Whatever might have angered you, I apologise. I apologise on my own behalf. I apologise on behalf of my president [Nelson] Chamisa. We will resolve this in future,” Ncube said.

He added that there was need to face Zanu PF in unity.

“Even if we fight as a family, when we reach a point of facing an enemy, we unite and charge at each other after chasing our enemy away. So I appeal to you that we forgive each other and work together,” he said.

“There is no need to worry over who you sent to represent us. Even though this year you wanted to send Dube, but he did not become a candidate, in the future you will send him as well.”

I Have Charisma To Run Country- Chikohora

Below is Chikohora’s interview with Heart and Soul TV…

Mnangagwa In Another Grand Looting Scheme

HARARE mayor Jacob Mafume yesterday scoffed at President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s Gazette declaring the city’s waste management a state of disaster, saying the legal instrument was a grand looting scheme that would paralyse council operations.

Mnangagwa on Monday gazetted Statutory Instrument (SI) 140 of 2023 to give the Environmental Management Agency (Ema) powers to manage refuse collection and waste management within the Harare Metropolitan province local authorities.

Harare Metropolitan province comprises three local authorities — Harare City Council, Chitungwiza and Ruwa town councils.

Mafume said the President was ill-advised.

“We have been down this road before,” he said.

“Government gazetted the Zimbabwe National Road Administration (Zinara) to take over roads and we have potholes in towns.

“It also gazetted Zesa and we have dark cities.

“We know it will end in tears.

“Government has a tendency of taking over operations in the local authorities, but without the knowledge and expertise to manage.

“What is required to resolve the waste management issues is funding.

“We want the devolution funds to be disbursed and utilised for their intended purpose.

“We have 15 compactor trucks that are stuck in South Africa because of financial issues.”

Mnangagwa directed local authorities to reimburse Ema for its activities towards refuse collection and waste management. Mafume, however, said the SI was fishy and meant to steal from the councils.

“We now have the Pomoma project, where residents have to fork out US$1,4 million,” Mafume said.

“How can one declare a state of disaster and demand money from the same local authority that is a disaster?

“This is just a money-making scheme.

“The President was ill-advised. We do not understand what the SI says. Ema is a regulatory authority already, but then the SI says it is going to supervise us.

“Governance is not an essay-writing competition. We are going to continue working as we were doing.”

Ruwa Local Board chairperson Kizito Chivafa weighed in saying the SI was “weird”.

“We regard it as a general comment,” Chivafa said. We are still maintaining our weekly schedule of refuse collection, that is once every week.

“We regard ourselves as one of the smartest local authorities, so for us, the SI is just one of those statements. Even our residents can testify to that.”

The declaration was published under the Civil Protection Act as SI 140 of 2023 cited as the Civil Protection (Declaration of State of Disaster: Emergency Solid Waste Management Harare Metropolitan Province) Notice, 2023.

The SI partly says government “noted with great concern the deplorable state of cleanliness of the Harare Metropolitan province, characterised, among other things, by litter and waste dumps accumulating in business and residential areas of the province, open burning of garbage and indiscriminate illegal dumping of solid waste and littering”.

Change Champion Takaona Empowers Rural Communities

Gutu – Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) candidate for Gutu Central Matthew Takaona has over the last two years supported 60 broiler chicken projects and empowered 1 200 disadvantaged women from former Gutu North and Gutu Central constituencies in the process.

Takaona who is contesting on the opposition party ticket confirmed the projects to The Mirror today.

He said the projects are his way of ploughing back to the community and to strengthen opposition politics in a country where there is a crisis of transparency and bad good governance.

“Thirty-nine of the projects were done in former Gutu North while 21 are in Gutu Central. Apart from women, school teachers and traditional leaders also benefitted from the projects.

“Corruption and bad governance thrives when opposition parties are weak and battered and therefore we need to strengthen them. In 2021, I embarked on projects not only to empower women, but also to support citizens excluded from Government social welfare programmes because of their support for opposition political parties… www.masvingomirror.com

ZEC Creates 869 New Polling Stations A Month Later | Pachedu

Zimbabwe Electoral Commission Under Scrutiny for Secretive Voters Roll Update Ahead of Elections

By Farai D Hove | Harare, August 3, 2023 – As Zimbabwe gears up for crucial elections scheduled for August 23, 2023, the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has come under intense scrutiny following revelations of a clandestine creation of a new voters roll. Just a month after announcing a total number of polling stations, ZEC’s new figure shows an increase of 869 polling stations, leaving citizens and political stakeholders bewildered.

According to data analysis by Pachedu’s review, the commission’s latest move has added 869 more polling stations to the voters roll. On July 2, ZEC had officially reported a total of 11,501 polling stations across the nation. However, today’s unexpected disclosure reveals a new figure of 12,370 polling stations, raising questions about the transparency and credibility of the electoral process.

The lack of transparency in the process is further exacerbated by ZEC’s refusal to publish the polling station codes. The withholding of this critical information has triggered concerns among political parties, civil society organizations, and citizens who see it as a potential red flag for electoral integrity.

Pachedu issued a brief statement urging the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission to release the new voters roll without delay. As the election date draws near, the need for transparency becomes even more pressing, as free and fair elections are essential for upholding democracy and ensuring the legitimacy of the chosen representatives.

The revelation of the secretive update to the voters roll has sparked public outrage and mistrust towards ZEC’s handling of the electoral process. Questions are now being raised about the motives behind the sudden addition of polling stations, especially after the previous announcement indicating a substantial reduction in the total number.

As Zimbabweans prepare to cast their votes, political analysts and citizens are calling for the commission to be forthright and transparent in its actions. The credibility of the electoral process and the nation’s democratic institutions depend on ZEC’s commitment to openness and accountability.

With the elections just a few weeks away, all eyes are on the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission to address the concerns raised and ensure that the electoral process remains fair and unbiased. As tensions rise and speculations continue to circulate, the commission must act decisively to restore public confidence in the democratic process and uphold the principles of a free and democratic Zimbabwe.

Mnangagwa’s Girlfriend Says ED Ordained By God To Win 2023

Mabel Chinomona

By Farai D Hove | In a startling announcement that has left the nation in awe, Mabel Chinomona, the girlfriend of President Emmerson Mnangagwa, has declared that her boyfriend has been ordained by God Almighty to lead the country. Speaking at a rally held in Mutare Central last week, Mabel Chinomona, who is also the Zanu PF Women’s League secretary, passionately proclaimed that opposing Mnangagwa’s leadership would be equivalent to challenging the divine will of God.

Addressing the League structures in Manicaland, Chinomona urged party members to support Mnangagwa in the upcoming August 23, 2023 elections, emphasizing the need to allow him to complete the developmental projects he is currently implementing across the province.

“You want to wrestle power from our divinely anointed saviour Emmerson Mnangagwa. We all know the good work done by our first secretary in Zanu PF. We must let him finish the developmental projects he is implementing across the province,” she asserted.

Despite her endorsement of Mnangagwa, Chinomona also expressed concern over the low representation of women in the province, highlighting that there are only two female Zanu PF candidates in Manicaland. The number has decreased from eight in the 2018 elections, prompting her to encourage women to rally behind their fellow female candidates contesting the upcoming elections.

The League’s national political commissar, Maybe Mbowa, also weighed in on the issue, warning against voting for the opposition. Mbowa argued that supporting opposition parties would be akin to handing the country back to colonizers on a silver platter, advocating for continued support for Mnangagwa’s leadership.

The announcement has sparked intense discussions across the nation, with citizens sharing mixed reactions to the claim of divine ordination. While some fervently support Mnangagwa’s leadership, citing his achievements and developmental projects, others view the statement as an attempt to sway voters through religious appeals.

As the election date approaches, Zimbabwe remains divided, with the electorate faced with the decision of supporting the incumbent president, who is allegedly “divinely anointed,” or opting for opposition candidates who promise a different vision for the nation’s future.

The impact of Mabel Chinomona’s announcement is likely to be felt in the coming days, as the nation grapples with the intersection of politics and religious beliefs. As events unfold, citizens and observers alike eagerly await the outcome of the upcoming elections and the response from the opposition to the assertion of divine endorsement for President Mnangagwa’s leadership.

Kasukuwere In Fresh Legal Bid

Former Cabinet Minister, Saviour Kasukuwere is in a fresh legal bid to join the presidential race after applying for direct access to the Constitutional Court to challenge the nullification of his candidature by the High Court.

Kasukuwere’s eligibility to contest the August 23 election was challenged by a private citizen Mr Lovedale Mangwana, arguing that Kasukuwere had spent 18 consecutive months outside the country.

Mr Mangwana won the legal battle after the High Court nullified Kasukuwere’s candidature with the Supreme Court also throwing out his appeal against the High Court judgment.

Chasi Slams Chamisa Over Demands To Supervise Printing Of Ballots

Fortune Chasi Condemns Opposition’s Demand to Supervise Ballot Printing

In a controversial statement, Zanu PF Deputy Secretary for Legal Affairs and Mazowe South legislator, Fortune Chasi, has criticized the opposition CCC (Coalition for Change) for their demands to witness the printing of ballot papers in Zimbabwe. Minister Chasi referred to these demands as “bizarre and unreasonable,” stating that such a practice is unprecedented globally.

The opposition CCC has been vocal about their desire to be present during the printing of ballot papers, arguing that it would allay fears of potential ballot stuffing and ensure a fair electoral process. However, Chasi dismissed these demands, citing that they have never been implemented in any country and were even ridiculed during international discussions.

During a recent radio program, “Muriro on Monday” on Star FM, Minister Fortune Chasi stated, “One of the things that I learnt was that regrettably some of the requests and demands (by the opposition) were unreasonable. If you recall, there was a demand that the printing process must be done in the presence of political parties. That has never happened. I was in Geneva last year with colleagues from other political parties. People from other countries actually laughed off at that request.”

The issue of electoral transparency has been a contentious topic in Zimbabwe, especially following the 2018 elections when legislators from different parties were taken to the printers by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) to witness the ballot printing process.

In response to Minister Chasi’s remarks, the CCC’s Mutare Central MP, Mr Innocent Gonese, argued that the “whipping system” employed by political parties stifles democracy and open debate. He expressed concerns about Section 129 of the Constitution, which allows a political party to recall an MP without specific criteria, potentially leading to the suppression of opposing voices.

In light of the recent controversy surrounding CCC’s failure to submit nomination papers for 12 candidates in Bulawayo, which were subsequently nullified by the High Court, Minister Chasi took the opportunity to defend Zanu PF’s approach to candidate nomination. He emphasized the party’s well-organized structure and early preparation, ensuring that all candidates meet the necessary requirements and deadlines.

The debate over electoral reforms and transparency is likely to continue, with the opposition CCC pushing for greater involvement and oversight in the electoral process. Meanwhile, Minister Fortune Chasi has urged continued engagement between political parties to enhance the electoral legal framework.

As Zimbabwe moves forward, it remains to be seen how the government and opposition will find common ground on this crucial matter to ensure the credibility and integrity of future elections in the country.- state media

The identified victims are Timothy Sachiti (62), Eldington Marima (70), Akudzwe Sharamba (a two-month-old baby boy), First Muleya, Christopher Chilondowa (28), and Shadreck Bumbate (46). In light of these heartbreaking incidents, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi has urged drivers to exercise patience on the road and strictly adhere to all road rules and regulations. Additionally, public service vehicle operators are reminded to ensure that their vehicles do not exceed their stipulated load capacity to safeguard lives on the roads.

The recent surge in road traffic accidents has been a cause of great concern for authorities, as at least 26 people have tragically lost their lives, and several others have been injured in separate incidents across the country since last Thursday.

The nation mourns the loss of lives and sends heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims affected by these unfortunate accidents. Authorities are working diligently to investigate the causes of these accidents and implement measures to enhance road safety across Zimbabwe.

As the community grapples with grief and concern, it is crucial for all road users to remain vigilant and prioritize safety to prevent further tragedies on the country’s roads.

Cown-try Head Mnangagwa Tells Cowdray CCC’s Turned Zim Into A Cow-ntry

Emmerson Mnangagwa’s Self-Confidence Amidst Zimbabwe’s Challenges: A Closer Look.

Emmerson Mnangagwa

In yesterday’s address at a ruling party rally in Cowdray Park, ZANU PF leader, Emmerson Mnangagwa displayed an unwavering belief in the power and success of ZANU PF, while simultaneously blaming the opposition for the country’s problems. This article delves into the paradox of Mnangagwa’s statements and examines whether he genuinely believes in his own assertions, considering the challenging state of Zimbabwe and the ruling party’s role in it.

Mnangagwa’s Unstoppable ZANU PF:
President Mnangagwa confidently declared ZANU PF as a “peoples’ party” that led the liberation struggle for Zimbabwe’s independence. He expressed that the party’s winning streak would continue and urged the electorate to vote resoundingly for ZANU PF in the upcoming elections. Mnangagwa portrayed ZANU PF as an action-oriented party that delivers on its promises, unlike the opposition, whom he accuses of being mere talkers.

Blaming the Opposition for City Woes:
The President criticized the opposition-led urban local authorities, holding them responsible for the decline of the cities they govern. He claimed that all local authorities and parliament belong to ZANU PF and called on the opposition to vacate their positions. Additionally, Mnangagwa pointed out the opposition’s disorganization, citing an incident in Bulawayo where nomination papers were not filed on time, leading to their nullification.

Zimbabwe’s Reality vs. Mnangagwa’s Claims:
The President’s confidence in ZANU PF’s success and the blame he places on the opposition appear incongruent with the current state of Zimbabwe. The nation has been facing severe economic challenges, including inflation, unemployment, and poverty. The state of infrastructure and essential services in cities has also been a matter of concern. Critics argue that ZANU PF’s policies and governance may have contributed to the country’s difficulties, casting doubt on Mnangagwa’s assertions.

Assessing Mnangagwa’s Beliefs:
It is important to analyze whether Mnangagwa genuinely believes in his own rhetoric or if his statements serve a political purpose. As Zimbabwe’s leader, he may be employing a strategic approach to rally his supporters and consolidate power ahead of the elections. By projecting an image of invincibility for ZANU PF and blaming the opposition, Mnangagwa seeks to sway public opinion and maintain his party’s grip on power.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s recent address at Cowdray Park showcased his firm belief in ZANU PF’s success and his willingness to place the blame on the opposition for Zimbabwe’s challenges. However, the reality on the ground paints a different picture, with the nation facing multiple socio-economic difficulties, that now see cows straying into city areas. This paradox raises questions about the President’s sincerity in his statements and whether they are mere political tactics to maintain power. As Zimbabwe heads towards the elections, it is crucial for citizens to critically assess the statements and actions of both ZANU PF and the opposition, seeking a path towards genuine development and progress for the nation.

Soldiers “Reject” Mnangagwa

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has recalled all soldiers on leave back to the barracks after reports of some defacing his campaign posters in some parts of Harare.

An online news portal, NewsHawks, reports that Mnangagwa has extended the leave termination to soldiers at Cleveland Shooting Range in Arcturus, Harare.

The decision was taken after reports that some soldiers were rampaging at night, defacing Mnangagwa’s campaign posters in Mabvuku, Harare, resulting in Zanu PF officials complaining. A source told The NewsHawks: “The regiments stationed at Cleveland Shooting Range in Harare are being dismantled today, 28 July as soon as the Air Force competition ends. “Soldiers based at the range, especially from 2 Brigade in Harare, Artillery in Shamva and 3 Brigade in Mutare were alleged to have had sprees of tearing Zanu PF President ED’s posters in Mabvuku. The Zanu PF Mabvuku leadership raised a complaint that the soldiers were a menace, especially at night. The order to totally demobilise the range is immediate. All soldiers are going back to their barracks where they were also forced to register at their polling stations.” A CIO-run structure, Forever Associates Zimbabwe (FAZ, has taken over the running of the upcoming elections, with the army playing a peripheral role.

FAZ is led by CIO co-deputy director-general, retired Brigadier-General Walter Tapfumaneyi. This has created tensions within the security forces.

About Sexual Misconduct

Zanu PF MPs Dump Mnangagwa

By- Opposition leader Nelson Chamisa has claimed that Zanu PF MPs are dissatisfied with President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s rule and have vowed to campaign against him in the upcoming elections. Speaking to his supporters recently, Chamisa alleged that Mnangagwa is not wanted in ZANU PF, and his MPs have told him that they will do a ‘bhora musango.’ Chamisa further claimed that Mnangagwa’s rule has benefited his family and that he is rewarding non-party members. He said:

This is no longer a party-aligned issue. In fact, it is Mnangagwa who is not wanted in Zanu PF. His MPs tell me that they will do a ‘bhora musango’. I said yes I’m bhora musango. They say his rule has benefitted his family. They say he is now rewarding some who are not from the party. That is why he has structures such as FAZ because he does not believe in us.

“Bhora Musango” is a Shona phrase that means “kick the ball into the bushes.” It was a term used to describe a strategy used by some ZANU PF members during the 2008 elections to protest against the party’s chosen candidates by deliberately spoiling their ballot papers. The strategy was widely believed to have been used against Robert Mugabe during the 2008 elections, mainly by people in Mt Darwin who voted for Joyce Mujuru but did not vote for Mugabe. The strategy involved deliberately spoiling ballot papers as a form of protest against Mugabe and the ruling ZANU PF party.

Chamisa’s statements followed reports of fears of factionalism in the ruling party sparked by former commissar Saviour Kasukuwere. Kasukuwere, a kingpin of the G40 faction, announced his ambitions to run for the presidency, challenging his erstwhile colleague Mnangagwa. However, his ambitions suffered a blow after the Supreme Court upheld a High Court ruling barring him from contesting. Kasukuwere has since approached the Constitutional Court over the matter.

Mwonzora Accuses Mnangagwa Of Plotting For His Political Downfall

By-The leader of the dying opposition MDC, Douglas Mwonzora, has accused Zanu PF President Emmerson Mnangagwa of influencing the courts to block his 87 MPs from contesting in this month’s elections.

MDC will contest for 24 seats after the electoral court dismissed the party’s appeal against disqualification by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) of the 87 aspiring MPs.

Mwonzora told Studio 7 that President Mnangagwa was behind this court judgement.

He said Mnangagwa was influencing the courts to block opposition parties from contesting him.

Mwonzora said this after confirming that his party had only 24 candidates contesting in constituencies besides proportional representation. Reads the statement:

The Electoral Court Passes Judgment on MDC 87

Yesterday the electoral court dismissed the appeal by the MDC’s 87 parliamentary candidates against their disqualification by ZEC. As has become the norm with MDC cases, this case was dismissed on technicalities. The court completely avoided looking into the merits of this case.

It is a matter of record that on the night of the nomination court, the 87 candidates fulfilled all the constitutional requirements and were were successfully vetted as candidates. However, payment for their nomination fees could not be made as the election commission made it impossible for the MDC to pay citing bank challenges.

Although the commission had advised the MDC that it would accept payment by cash and via swipe, they did not avail the swiping machine to the MDC officials.

ZEC then refused the suggestion by the said officials that they make bulk payment for their candidates using bank transfer. On the 22nd of June 2023 , ZEC issued a statement extending the deadline of payment to 1730 on that day. However for reasons best known to them, ZEC still refused to accept payments from the MDC. There is no doubt that this was an act of vindictiveness, partiality and partisanship on the pan of the election management body. It constitutes gross violations of political rights as enshrined in section 67 of the Constitution.

The Elections slated for the 23rd of August 2023 are now but a complete farce and are characterised by mass exclusion of other contestants. Further, they are being held under a delimitation report that is completely illegal and was condemned by parliament.

The MDC is now only left with 24 candidates contesting in constituencies besides proportional representation. Our participation in this election is clearly under serious protest. The ZEC and government have constricted democratic space in Zimbabwe.

Despite all these deliberate setbacks, the MDC will continue with its struggle for true democracy and inclusivity. We therefore call upon our members and supporters to remain calm, peaceful, and resolute in the face of this setback. Our commitment to a free, fair, and inclusive Zimbabwe endures, and we will persist in advocating for the democratic values that form the bedrock of our nation.

Mwonzora Confirms Losing Nearly 100 Seats Before Polls

We therefore call upon our members and supporters to remain calm, peaceful, and resolute in the face of this setback. Our commitment to a free, fair, and inclusive Zimbabwe endures, and we will persist in advocating for the democratic values that form the bedrock of our nation.

Find Out More About Sexual Exploitation

Mnangagwa Trembles As Soldiers Tear His Posters

CCC Slams State Media Coverage

The continued partisan reporting of elections by state media, including ZBC, Herald, and Chronicle, should be condemned.

It raises concerns over the accuracy and fairness of their coverage. In particular, when reporting on our events, these media outlets have been providing false information and making divisive statements and yet they are funded by the citizens.-CCC

Blasphemous Chiwenga Says ED Is God Anointed

Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga on Monday implored Binga villagers to vote for President Emmerson Mnangagwa, whom he said was “God-anointed” to improve their miserable lives.

Addressing villagers during the commissioning of Muchesu Coal Mine in the district, Chiwenga said: “Today, Binga walks tall and proud by an addition of this huge investment which has happened here at Muchesu part of Binga in Matebeleland North (province).

“This occasion comes barely a few weeks after President Mnangagwa officially commissioned prospect lithium Zimbabwe in Goromonzi in Mashonaland East province.

“They were here, but God in His wisdom has now made us to see these minerals and exploit them because of His anointed son whom he has put to lead our country Zimbabwe … we must be grateful and support our President, the first secretary of our party Zanu-PF.”

Chiwengwa called for peace to prevail during and after the elections.

“It is not only in the mining industry that our guest of honour (Mnangagwa) has excelled beyond expectation. As we count down towards the harmonised elections on August 23, let us reflect and recollect all the work done by the second republic under his unquestionable leadership,” he said.

“He is a man of peace, always advocating unity, love, harmony and tolerance and shunning violence at all times prior to, during and after elections.”

ED Dates Cowdray Park

By A Correspondent- All roads lead to Bulawayo today where President Mnangagwa will address a star rally in Cowdray Park suburb to drum up support for the ruling party Zanu- PF ahead of the harmonised general elections later this month.

The venue for the star rally near Mkhithika Primary School was a hive of activity from yesterday morning as the party’s advance teams were busy pitching tents, setting up the sound system, mobile ablution facilities, security and ushering settings, among other final touches in preparation for the arrival of the national leadership.

The revolutionary party is poised to reclaim its ground in the City of Kings where it has endeared itself with the masses through the implementation of transformative signature development projects under the Second Republic including revitalising the manufacturing sector to retain and create more job opportunities for locals.

President Mnangagwa’s star rally is expected to showcase the milestone developments achieved by the Second Republic in Bulawayo in the last five years. The city had 163 completed signature projects out of 230 as of December 2022.

In line with President Mnangagwa’s drive to ensure equitable development across the country, Bulawayo has in the last five years received increased Government attention and benefited more from different policy support measures.

These include enhanced industrialisation support, research and development strides, key infrastructure development as well as interventions on pressing service delivery issues. With a head start on three parliamentary constituencies following the nullification by the High Court of nomination for 12 Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) candidates, Zanu-PF is set to wrestle Bulawayo from the opposition.

Minister of Finance and Economic Development Professor Mthuli Ncube (Cowdray Park constituency), Cde Tendai Charuka (Bulawayo Central) and Deputy Minister of Industry and Commerce Cde Raj Modi (Bulawayo South) are uncontested as their challengers were only from the CCC party.

Zanu-PF political commissar, Dr Mike Bimha, who was already on the ground yesterday, said it was all systems go and hinted that they expected a crowd of close to 100 000. He said the party was more than convinced that today’s rally will be massive, sending a clear message to the opposition and its surrogates that their time was up.

“We believe that we will have great numbers, we have been to Matebeleland South and Matebeleland North but we expect Bulawayo province to be better than the two. So, I am expecting something like 80 000 maybe 90 000 people and we want to believe that all our affiliates from the Southern Region would be part of us,” said Cde Bimha.

“We have a planning committee at Zanu-PF headquarters that meets regularly to plan for the next rally but we also have provincial rally committees, which also meet to plan in terms of logistics.

“A day before such a rally, the national and respective provincial committee meet to compare notes in order to ensure a smooth sailing event.”
Cde Bimha said the opposition CCC blunders have become a blessing in disguise for Zanu-PF, as it has secured three seats, including the host constituency, uncontested but said that does not mean that the party will relax.

“It’s a good omen to come to a place where there is no competition but at the same time we can’t sit on our laurels, we want to make sure that it’s the numbers that count,” he said.

“We have already won this election in any event but what we want now is by how much will the victory margin be. We want our people to go out there and vote for the President.

“The thrust of the President’s campaign is not about what we promised you but what we have already done and these are things that people can see and if these things have been done, it only tells you that there are more things to be done,” said Dr Bimha.

Zanu-PF Bulawayo provincial chairperson, Cde Jabulani Sibanda, slammed the Nelson Chamisa-led CCC for playing the victim over the nullification of the nomination of its candidates saying the party leadership’s failures were to blame.

Mkhithika Primary School the venue of the Presidential Star Rally

“When we went to war, we fought for universal suffrage, the right to vote because we were governed by the laws that we never participated in making. And now the laws that we have were created by our Parliament and those laws tell us how to go for elections, that a day of submission is not a day of completing forms,” said Cde Sibanda.

“That is why things are done on time. Any party or member that fails to abide by the rules should not expect to participate in elections,” he added.

Cde Sibanda said today’s star rally would demonstrate President Mnangagwa’s popularity through the massive turnout by Bulawayo residents. He urged residents to attend in their large numbers and show that the city has not lost its revolutionary direction.

“We want the President to see that Bulawayo has not lost the direction, it’s still moving on the revolutionary path, which is tested most of the time because of the animosity that we get from those that colonised us,” he said.

“Today, they do not only need our land or resources but they are eager to inflict damage to the minds of our kids by allowing homosexuality practices we don’t practice in Africa.

“We want to mobilise our people so that they show the President that we are still keen to maintain our culture as God created us.”

Among the top projects that have been completed in Bulawayo is the construction of the US$17 million Bulawayo Students’ accommodation complex near the National University of Science and Technology (Nust) through the Infrastructural Development Bank of Zimbabwe (IDBZ), which is now awaiting commissioning.

The facility has a capacity to accommodate 1 032 students and will go a long way towards addressing the shortage of accommodation at the giant institution with a ratio of 60 percent for the girl child who is more vulnerable to abuse and 40 percent for the boy child.

The Government has also facilitated the rehabilitation of key health institutions such as Thorngrove Hospital and Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo Ekusileni Medical Centre and Bartley Memorial Block at the United Bulawayo Hospitals.

The reconstruction of Mpilo doctors’ flats that were razed down by fire is also one of the key milestones alongside the establishment of the Obstetric Fistula Clinic and Orthopedic units.

As part of efforts to enhance development, the Second Republic has also established six Innovation Hubs at six state universities including Nust to proffer home-based solutions to industrial needs and drive the economic revival.

The Nust Innovation Hub is fully operational and is conducting DNA tests at reduced costs among other strides.

At UBH, a state-of-the-art laboratory was recently completed and is awaiting commissioning. The laboratory, which will have 37 scientists is one of the largest laboratories in the country and will eliminate the need to outsource some services for the hospital.

The facility has 52 rooms and has special call rooms for on-duty specialists.
It will house departments such as haematology, biochemistry and immunology and render services that are not available at the hospital at the moment including the blood blank and a histology unit.

Presidential Aspirant Kasukuwere Turns To SADC

By A Correspondent- Exiled former Cabinet minister Saviour Kasukuwere says he has appealed to the Southern African Development Community (Sadc) to rescue his presidential bid after he was disqualified by the High and Supreme courts from contesting the August 23 polls as an independent candidate.

Kasukuwere wrote to Sadc chairperson and Democratic Republic of Congo President Félix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo protesting what he said were “unfair practices” to bar him from contesting as one of the 12 presidential hopefuls in the harmonised elections.

The Supreme Court last week dismissed Kasukuwere’s appeal of a High Court decision to disqualify him from contesting in the polls.

Kasukuwere has, meanwhile, appealed the Supreme Court ruling at the Constitutional Court (ConCourt).

Kasukuwere, who fled the country during the 2017 coup, however, told NewsDay in an interview that he was hopeful Sadc would intervene on his behalf.

“We sent the letter a few days ago and we have not yet received the response,” he said.

“But we are hopeful Sadc is a regional body that has a responsibility to respond and work with us to resolve the issues that we raised in the letter.”

In the letter, Kasukuwere said disqualifying him from contesting the presidential election would disenfranchise some Zimbabwean voters.

“Opposition parties increasingly find themselves forced to rely on legal recourse to combat the systematic hindrance of their rallies and even their participation in the electoral process,” he said.

“These challenges persist despite the growing apprehensions surrounding the independence and integrity of the Judiciary, which appear to have been compromised in certain instances.

“The recent ruling on my candidature has once again brought this issue to the forefront, further disenfranchising the Zimbabwean diaspora community.

“The manipulation of the Judiciary to restrict the democratic space is a desperate tactic that should be condemned by all those who value democracy and fairness.”

Kasukuwere also condemned the enactment of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Amendment Bill, commonly referred to as the Patriot Act.

“It is disheartening to witness the erosion of our democratic space, where holding a different opinion is wrongly perceived as an act of hostility towards the State,” the former minister said.

“We firmly believe that political leadership should not be dictated by the barrel of a gun, and the increasing militarisation of Zimbabwean politics is deeply unsettling.”

In his ConCourt appeal, Kasukuwere said the Supreme Court ruling had infringed on his right to the protection of the law.

A Zanu-PF activist, Lovedale Mangwana, approached the High Court accusing the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) of violating the Electoral Act by accepting Kasukuwere’s nomination papers yet he had been out of the country for over 18 months.

The High Court ruled in his favour and Kasukuwere approached the Supreme Court for recourse.

The Supreme Court upheld the High Court ruling.

“The decision of the Supreme Court does violate the common law of Zimbabwe and is, in fact, an abrogation of the judicial function which requires that the judge renders his judgment in accordance with the express dictates of the law,” Kasukuwere submitted in his ConCourt appeal.

“Both the High Court and the Supreme Court having decided on the substantive question which forms the basis of the allegation that the judgment of the Supreme Court breaches the applicant’s right to the equal protection and benefit of the law … thus there is no other suitable fora for the final and effective disposition of the constitutional question arising as a result of the judgment of the Supreme Court,” Kasukuwere added.

Meanwhile, 12 Bulawayo Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) aspiring legislators filed their heads of argument at the Supreme Court yesterday challenging their disqualification for allegedly filing their nomination papers after the 4pm deadline.

Some suspected Zanu-PF activists challenged their nomination which they said was illegal, but the CCC aspiring legislators said the High Court erred in disqualifying them.

“Without a doubt, the court a quo misdirected itself and conducted the proceedings in an irregular manner,” they submitted.

“The question of jurisdiction is itself material. The applicant’s a quo was an electoral matter. For that reason, it was brought before the wrong forum.

“There is in that regard no lacuna (gap) in the law such as would justify the intervention of the High Court.”

In a related matter, a Bulawayo resident, Raymond Dudzai Gombedza, yesterday filed an urgent High Court application seeking the disqualification of Zanu-PF Bulawayo South candidate Rajeshkumar Modi for filing his papers after the nomination court deadline.

In his founding affidavit, Gombedza  said Modi’s nomination papers were submitted 20 minutes after the deadline.

“Despite the nomination court properly commencing at 10am on June 21, 2023, the nomination papers of the third respondent were in disarray,” Gombedza said.

“The disarray resulted in the third respondent being turned away by the nomination court in order to rectify the fatal defects that were in his papers.

“By 16pm on June 21, 2023, the third respondent had not submitted nomination papers before the nomination court.

“In addition, the third respondent was not within the nomination court room and premises.”

Gombedza cited Innocent Ncube, Zec nomination court presiding officer, Zec, Modi and Zec chairperson Justice Priscilla Chigumba as respondents.

“We Have Surpassed the 2million Job Creation Target”: Zanu PF

By A Correspondent- Zanu-PF aspiring legislator for Epworth North Constituency Taurai Kandishaya has defended President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s two million jobs promise saying the ruling party has surpassed the target.

Speaking at a political debate organised by Media Alliance of Zimbabwe and Tell Zimbabwe, Kandishaya argued that the projects embarked on by Mnangagwa’s administration over the past five years created employment for 2,7 million people.

The ruling party’s Deputy Youth Commissar was responding to a question from one of the attendees who queried the two million jobs promise made in 2018.

According to a first quarter  Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency (ZimStat) report, more than 2,8 million people of working age are unemployed in the country.

Of the most affected, Matebeleland North has the highest number of unemployed individuals, with the national unemployment (expanded) rate at 46,7%.

“The government bought 800 buses from Belarus, one bus requires a driver and a conductor that is 1600 jobs created,” said Kandishaya, arguing that Mnangagwa had created the promised jobs.

“More so, these buses are manned by inspectors, that is one inspector plus an assistant for every 10 buses. There were also mechanics who were hired to repair these buses so that is even more jobs.”

He added that Zanu-PF is currently constructing roads which in turn have provided employment to the nation.

“We are also constructing Mbire road, we had 210 people employed when we were building the Beitbridge road

“There is also a Mhanize steel plant, there are also 225 houses that were built in Beitbridge and if you have the know-how of construction you would know that when building a house there is the actual builder, carpenter, a surveyor and an engineer.

“We also managed to create employment for our teachers who we sent to Rwanda. So if you look at all these projects you will see that there has been employment all over.

“If you look at the Robert Mugabe airport expansion, if there used to be 10 employees now that number has gone to more than 100 because of the expansion. If you have time we could sit down and I will show you that we created 2,7 million jobs,” he said.-NewZimbabwe

Party Assault- Zanu Pf Councillor Faints

By A Correspondent- Zanu-PF aspiring councillor for Mazowe ward 30, Benedict Kanda, fainted at a recent party event after he was punched on his privates.

The matter came to light at Concession Magistrates Courts yesterday where Pharoah Bernard (50) appeared before magistrate Joshua Nembaware charged with assault.

He pleaded guilty to the charge and was slapped with a six-month sentence.

Bernard will, however, not spend time in prison after his sentence was wholly suspended on condition he does not commit a similar offence in the next five years.

Pleading guilty while begging for mercy, Bernard told the magistrate that he was drunk when he committed the offence.

“Your worship, I was drunk when I committed this offence, please forgive me. I will not do it again,” lamented Bernard.

Prosecutor Precious Khanye told the court that on July 29, the aspiring councillor was entertaining people at Spar Farm in Mazowe when Bernard jumped onto the stage and punched him on his privates. Kanda fell down and lost consciousness.

First aid was rendered and he regained consciousness. Bernard was arrested.

Blow For Mwonzora’s Candidates

By A Correspondent- The Electoral Court has rubberstamped a Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) ban on 87 MDC-T parliamentary candidates whose nomination papers were rejected by the poll management authority June this year following payment glitches on electronic bank transactions.

This means the party will contest the August 23 election with just 24 candidates from an electable 270 seats which are up for grabs.

In a statement Tuesday, MDC-T director of information and publicity, Chengetai Guta accused ZEC and government of a partisanship and “gross violations of political rights”.

Said the party, “Yesterday (Monday), the electoral court dismissed the appeal by the MDC’s 87 parliamentary candidates against their disqualification by ZEC.

“The court completely avoided looking into the merits of the case.”

MDC-T said its candidates successfully went through the preliminary vetting exercise but could not be registered after the nomination court that sat June 21 “made it impossible for the MDC to pay citing bank challenges”.

MDC-T chronicled its painstaking attempt to ensure payment went through, adding that the party’s efforts were frustrated by ZEC.

“There is no doubt that this was an act of vindictiveness, partiality and partisanship on the part of the election management body,” Guta said.

“It constitutes gross violations of political rights as enshrined in section 67 of the Constitution.

“The elections slated for 23rd of August 2023 are now but a complete farce and are characterised by mass exclusion of other contestants.

“Further, they are being held under a delimitation report that is completely illegal and was condemned by parliament.

“The MDC is now only left with 24 candidates contesting in constituencies besides proportional representation.

“Our participation in this election is clearly under serious protest. The ZEC and government have constricted democratic space in Zimbabwe.”

MDC-T is arguably the country’s biggest opposition by parliamentary representation currently.

However, in terms of discernible popular support on the ground and by pundit estimation, Nelson Chamisa’s CCC has risen to become the party with the most realistic chance to upstage the ruling Zanu PF party in the upcoming poll.

Coupled with mass defections that have visited an opposition once fronted by late iconic political firebrand and ex-prime minister Morgan Tsvangirai, the failure to field in a lot of constituencies creates a real risk of the party petering out into oblivion.

Nick Mangwana’s Suspicious Smile for TV Bile

The Smiles Behind NRTV’s Launch: Uncovering the Truth of Media Plurality.

Nick Mangwana and Monica Mutsvangwa at the launch of the TV channel

The recent launch of Nkululeko Rusununguko Television (NRTV) by the Zimbabwe Information Ministry has been heralded as a sign of the government’s commitment to media plurality and diversity. However, upon closer examination, questions arise about the sincerity of the smiles at the event and the true independence of the new television station.

The government’s claim that NRTV is an independent station is met with skepticism, given the track record of media control and censorship in Zimbabwe. The government’s involvement in licensing and regulating media outlets raises concerns about potential bias and limited coverage of critical voices, especially those of independent political leaders like Nelson Chamisa.

The celebration of media reforms by the Second Republic may appear promising on the surface, with the repeal of the Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act (AIPPA). However, true media reform requires more than just the repeal of a single law. It necessitates a comprehensive overhaul of the regulatory framework to ensure genuine media plurality and freedom.

The mere presence of multiple private television stations does not guarantee media diversity. If these stations are subject to government influence or control, they may end up perpetuating a biased narrative that aligns with the government’s interests. True media plurality demands an environment where journalists can freely report on all matters of public interest without fear of reprisal.

The smiles of Minister Monica Mutsvangwa and other government officials at the launch may be a show of accomplishment, but they do not necessarily represent a genuine commitment to media ethics and fairness. The onus is on NRTV to prove its independence and uphold media ethics in its reporting.

The inclusion of NRTV in MultiChoice’s DSTV platform may give it broader reach, but it does not automatically guarantee unbiased coverage of diverse voices and opinions. It is essential for NRTV to demonstrate its commitment to journalistic integrity and unbiased reporting, especially when covering political events and leaders.

The call to promote Zimbabwean interests, identity, and local talent in programming raises questions about potential state propaganda and censorship. True media plurality allows for a variety of perspectives, including critical voices that may challenge the government’s policies and actions.

To truly embrace media plurality and diversity, NRTV must be transparent in its ownership structure and funding sources. It should be willing to provide equal coverage to all political leaders and parties, without favoring any particular group or ideology.

While the launch of NRTV may be seen as a step towards liberalizing the airwaves, the sincerity of the government’s commitment to media plurality remains in question. True media freedom requires more than just the establishment of multiple media outlets; it demands an environment that fosters open debate, protects journalists’ rights, and safeguards the public’s access to unbiased information.

As Zimbabweans look to the future, it is crucial for media consumers to remain vigilant, hold media outlets accountable, and advocate for genuine media reforms that uphold the principles of democracy, transparency, and press freedom. Only through a truly independent and diverse media landscape can Zimbabwe ensure that no one and no place is left behind in accessing accurate and unbiased information.

Malaba Says Criticising Court Verdicts Is Breaking The Law, Ahead of 2023 Elections

Chief Justice’s Statement on Judicial Criticism Raises Concerns Over Democracy and Rule of Law

By Farai D Hove | In the ongoing symposium being held in Gweru, Chief Justice Luke Malaba made a statement asserting that people who criticize judicial decisions are undermining democracy and violating the rule of law. While he emphasized the independence of judges and their commitment to the rule of law, it is essential to critically examine his claims and their implications.

Luke Malaba with Emmerson Mnangagwa- file pic

The Chief Justice’s assertion that judicial decisions are not influenced by political interests is questionable. The judiciary’s independence is vital, but it is not immune to external pressures, especially in politically charged cases. The perception of impartiality is crucial for maintaining public trust in the judiciary, and any hint of undue influence can erode this trust.

Moreover, Chief Justice Malaba’s claim that judicial decisions are mere “case law” and not “conclusive, national statute” oversimplifies the significance of these decisions. While judges indeed interpret the law through their rulings, their decisions set important precedents that can significantly impact future cases and shape legal interpretations in the country. Therefore, it is crucial for the judiciary to make well-reasoned and unbiased judgments.

The Chief Justice’s dismissal of criticism against judges’ decisions as “ridiculous” is concerning, as it discourages open debate and the examination of judicial decisions. In a democratic society, citizens should have the right to question and scrutinize the decisions made by any arm of government, including the judiciary. Such critical analysis helps ensure transparency and accountability in the administration of justice.

Additionally, the reported relationship between Chief Justice Malaba and President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s sister, where he is currently staying at her lodge, raises concerns about potential conflicts of interest and further undermines public confidence in the judiciary’s independence. Even if this relationship has no direct influence on judicial decisions, the appearance of impropriety can be damaging.

The Chief Justice’s call for judges to deliver judgments within six months, though aiming for efficiency, must be balanced with the need for thorough and thoughtful deliberation. Rushed decisions can lead to potential errors and undermine the pursuit of justice.

Furthermore, the implementation of the Integrated Electronic Case Management System (IECMS) is a step towards improving efficiency in the judiciary. However, it is essential to ensure that the system does not compromise the confidentiality of sensitive case information or favor any particular group within the legal system.

In conclusion, Chief Justice Luke Malaba’s statement regarding criticism of judicial decisions raises significant concerns about democracy, transparency, and the rule of law in Zimbabwe. It is imperative for citizens, legal professionals, and civil society to closely monitor the actions of the judiciary and hold them accountable for their decisions. Only through an independent, transparent, and accountable judiciary can Zimbabwe uphold the principles of democracy and the rule of law.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police has confirmed the death of four family members, Tonderai Muchimwe (43), Ashton Mundoko (12), Quinton Mundoko (7) and Tamari Mundoko (5) and the injury of a female juvenile, Takunda Mundoko (14), in a fire incident which occurred at Mafararikwa Village, Marange on 29th July 2023 at about 0400 hours.

At about midnight on 29th July 2023, Tonderai Muchimwe broke into the room in which his niece, Violet Muchimwe (35) and her four (4) children, Takunda, Ashton, Quinton and Tamari were sleeping in. Tonderai, who was armed with a knife, demanded to have sexual intercourse with his niece, leading to a scuffle.

Violet Muchimwe fled leaving her children behind. Tonderai sprinkled petrol in the house and set the house on fire. As a result, the four children were burnt beyond recognition, whilst Takunda sustained burns all over the body after escaping out of the room through a window.

In a related incident, Police are investigating circumstances surrounding the death of Emily Kamugiya (65), Letina Chimuka (70) and Maxwell Josi (12) after the thatched bedroom they were sleeping in was set on fire by an unknown suspect on 30th July 2023 at Chitimbe Village, Muzarabani.

The police has established that Letina Chimuka was staying with the other victims after being chased away by her son from St Alberts area on allegations of witchcraft in which she was said to be causing the illness of her grandchild.

Investigations conducted by the police so far have not linked the two fire incidents to political violence.

Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe Republic Police reiterates that investigations are still in progress in relation to Brighton Mazhindu’s report at ZRP St Mary’s, Harare and another report by Leonard Kasanhai of Musonza Village A, Chiweshe over malicious damage to property by suspects who are yet to be identified..

Police also confirmed six reports from Hanke area, Tongogara, Shurugwi where complainants, with some not inclined towards any political party, had their ten houses burnt on 29th July 2023 during the night.

The police has so far arrested Edson Madhuveko and Edwin Madhuveko in connection with this case.

The two suspects were seen running away from the burnt huts scene.

Police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi warned criminal elements who are taking advantage of the current election mood in the country to settle marital and family scores that the law will ruthlessly deal with them.

He also warned political parties to counsel supporters and resolve either inter-party or intra-party disputes without resorting to violence.

He appealed to politicians to tell their members the truth on incidences to avoid misleading the nation.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police once again reiterates that the law will take its course on anyone involved in cases of political violence despite one’s stature, identity or political affiliation,” he said.-ZBC News

Suppression of Democracy: Arbitrary Laws and the Ban on Political Rallies in Zimbabwe

*This article is written in reaction of the recent ban on July 7, 2023 by the police of the Citizens Coalition for Change rally in Bindura.*

By Kennedy Masiye | Zimbabwe, a country with a complex political history, has been grappling with the issue of banning political rallies through the implementation of arbitrary laws. While the government claims that these measures are necessary for maintaining public order and security, critics argue that such bans are a direct assault on democracy and citizens’ right to freedom of assembly and expression. This article aims to shed light on the use of arbitrary laws to suppress political rallies in Zimbabwe, examining the implications for democracy and the importance of safeguarding fundamental rights.

Background

Zimbabwe has experienced a turbulent political landscape characterized by authoritarian rule and a history of disputed elections. In recent years, the government has employed various means to curb political opposition, including restrictive legislation and the use of security forces to quell dissent. One such method is the imposition of arbitrary laws that effectively ban political rallies, denying citizens the right to peacefully assemble and express their political views.

The Arbitrary Nature of Laws

Under the guise of maintaining public order and security, the Zimbabwean government has enacted laws such as the Maintenance of Peace and Order Act (MOPA) that grant authorities broad discretionary powers to restrict political gatherings. These laws are often vague and open to interpretation, allowing the authorities to selectively enforce them against opposition parties or individuals critical of the government. By doing so, the government can effectively stifle political activism and silence dissenting voices.

Implications for Democracy

The banning of political rallies has severe implications for democracy in Zimbabwe. Political rallies serve as a crucial platform for citizens to engage with political leaders, express their concerns, and participate in the democratic process. They are essential for fostering an informed electorate, encouraging political participation, and promoting accountability among politicians. When these rallies are banned, citizens are deprived of their right to engage with their representatives, and the democratic fabric of the country is weakened.

Limiting Freedom of Assembly and Expression

The right to freedom of assembly and expression is a fundamental pillar of any democratic society. These rights are enshrined in international human rights instruments and are essential for the functioning of a vibrant and pluralistic democracy. However, by banning political rallies, the government of Zimbabwe is infringing upon these rights, effectively stifling dissent and limiting the free exchange of ideas. Such actions undermine the democratic ideals that Zimbabwe should strive to uphold.

The Way Forward

To ensure the preservation of democracy and the protection of citizens’ rights, it is crucial to address the arbitrary banning of political rallies in Zimbabwe. The government must review and amend existing laws that infringe upon the right to freedom of assembly and expression, ensuring they are in line with international human rights standards. Additionally, there should be an independent judiciary that can impartially adjudicate cases related to political gatherings, ensuring fair and transparent decision-making.

International pressure and engagement can also play a vital role in advocating for democratic reforms in Zimbabwe. Regional and international bodies, as well as civil society organizations, should monitor the situation closely and speak out against the suppression of political rallies. Diplomatic efforts and engagement with the Zimbabwean government can help foster dialogue and encourage the protection of democratic rights.

Conclusion

The ban on political rallies through the use of arbitrary laws in Zimbabwe poses a significant threat to democracy and citizens’ rights. By suppressing political activism and limiting freedom of assembly and expression, the government undermines the foundations of a democratic society. It is imperative for the government to repeal or amend these laws, ensuring that citizens can exercise their rights freely and participate in the democratic process without fear of reprisal. Additionally, international pressure and engagement are crucial in advocating for democratic reforms and holding the Zimbabwean government accountable for its actions.

Citizens must also play an active role in defending their democratic rights. Peaceful protests, advocacy campaigns, and civil society initiatives can raise awareness about the importance of political rallies and the need for their protection. By organizing and mobilizing, citizens can send a clear message that they will not accept the suppression of their democratic rights.

Furthermore, media organizations and journalists have a crucial role to play in exposing human rights violations and promoting transparency. They can shed light on the arbitrary laws used to ban political rallies, providing a platform for marginalized voices and holding the government accountable. Journalists should be protected and allowed to report freely without fear of reprisals.

In conclusion, the use of arbitrary laws to ban political rallies in Zimbabwe is a grave infringement on democratic principles and citizens’ fundamental rights. These laws not only suppress political opposition but also undermine the democratic fabric of the country. It is essential for the Zimbabwean government to uphold its obligations to protect freedom of assembly and expression. The international community, civil society, media organizations, and citizens must continue to pressure the government to repeal or amend these laws and restore democratic values in Zimbabwe. Only through the collective efforts of all stakeholders can Zimbabwe move toward a more inclusive, transparent, and democratic future.

What Is Sexual Exploitation?

European Giants Establish Academy In Zim

Former European champions FC Porto have opened a football academy in Harare, Zimbabwe under their Dragon Force project.

The Portuguese club has partnered with GEA Sports Zimbabwe to set up the football school.

The launch comes after the successful hosting of FC Porto World Camp in the capital in March this year.

Porto said on their website: “After the opening in January of the football School in Fortaleza, Brazil, the implementation of the Dragon Force International Certification at FC Beira, in Mozambique, FC Porto opens now the Dragon Force Academy in Harare, Zimbabwe, making it the third project to be implemented internationally in 2023 by Dragon Force Academy.

“The Football Academy will be located in the Alex Sports Club Facilities, which have two 11-a-side soccer fields, a gym, support rooms and a restaurant.

“All the staff of GEA Sports Zimbabwe, FC Porto’s partner in the country, will be trained according to FC Porto’s working methodology, thus allowing the implementation of the Dragon Force International Certification. A multidisciplinary team (in the areas of management, technical expertise, psychology, education, and nutrition) will constantly monitor all the activities.”

Porto’s Dragon Force executive member Ricardo Frey Ramos said: “We are very pleased with this new partnership. GEA Sports welcomed us warmly and being willing to create all the conditions for the tremendous success of the FC Porto World Camp.

“The new expansion model now allows us to respond more confidently to market interests, sharing the good practices of Dragon Force football schools, capable of adapting to any reality.

“We have been working on processes and procedures for 15 years, thinking about the training of our players and coaches in detail, anticipating the day to day, with the ambition of showing that it is possible to make a difference and develop the capabilities of all those who believe in us.”

GEA Sports Zimbabwe Chairman, Mr Chimedza added: “This is the first step towards sustainable growth, but with the great objective of expanding horizons. We believe in the training methodology of Dragon Force, based on a Club with a lot of history, knowledge and victories, and which has a differentiating pedagogical component that will help develop many players, as well as the future citizens of Africa.”

The 16-year-old midfielder confirmed his departure in an Instagram post which read: “Thank you, Leicester. I am grateful to all the players and staff at the club who have helped me develop over the past 10 years and I wish nothing but success to everyone at the club.”

SA: ZANU PF Lecturer Kudzai Mutisi Fired Amidst Scandal for Se***lly Abusing and Financially Exploiting Students

By A Correspondent | In a disturbing revelation, Damelin College in Randburg, South Africa, has dismissed Zimbabwean lecturer, Kudzai Mutisi following allegations of an inappropriate relationship with some of his students. One of the learners, a 21-year-old woman whose identity is being protected, came forward with claims of emotional abuse and financial exploitation by the disgraced lecturer.

Kudzai Mutisi

The scandal came to light after documents were leaked to the institution, revealing that Mutisi was involved in an affair with the young student while on the college premises. When the student first spoke out about the abuse last year, Mutisi’s response was to dismiss her as a “psycho.” He even attempted to retaliate by making accusations against her, which was unsuccessful.

According to sources inside the college, the student was subjected to severe psychological torment, which pushed her to the brink of suicide. Fortunately, she was rescued by Good Samaritans. It wasn’t until this year that she was able to gather substantial evidence, including pictures and WhatsApp messages, to prove the illicit relationship with Mutisi.

Moreover, records obtained by ZimEye indicate that Mutisi received significant sums of money from the student, amounting to hundreds of thousands of Rands. The situation escalated in April 2023 when Mutisi started struggling to repay the borrowed funds, raising further concerns about financial manipulation.

The college management faced accusations of covering up for Mutisi, leading to demands for accountability from concerned parties. The institution eventually terminated Mutisi’s employment after additional evidence surfaced, suggesting that he had targeted other young students in a similar manner.

Efforts to contact Mutisi for comment have been fruitless, as he has failed to respond to multiple calls and emails for over two weeks.

In response to the scandal, the South African Community Movement and Randburg Parliament sent a letter dated 22nd May 2023, urging Damelin College to take appropriate action. The letter demanded the following:

1. Verification of Mutisi’s qualifications as an educator.
2. Immediate removal of the lecturer from his position.
3. Provision of extra classes and a facilitator tutor for the affected student to catch up on missed modules.
4. The opportunity for the student to write required tests and qualify for exams scheduled for 22 June 2023.
5. An explanation and information on the college’s policy regarding student-teacher relationships.
6. Identification of the education council under which Mutisi is registered.
7. An explanation as to why the college management seems to be taking sides in the matter.

The revelations have sparked outrage among students, parents, and the community, who are now demanding thorough investigations and measures to ensure the safety and well-being of students at Damelin College. The college authorities have yet to respond publicly to the demands and are expected to face significant scrutiny in the days to come.

Mwonzora Loses 87 Seats Before Election Day

By-The MDC, led by Douglas Mwonzora, lost 87 parliamentary seats weeks before the election day.

This comes after Monday’s electoral court dismissed the party’s appeal against disqualification by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) of the 87 aspiring MPs.

In a statement, MDC said it is now only left with 24 candidates contesting in constituencies besides proportional representation.

Soldiers Recalled To Barracks As Another Coup Looms

By- President Emmerson Mnangagwa has recalled all soldiers on leave back to the barracks after reports of some defacing his campaign posters in some parts of Harare.
