Yet, beneath the surface of her ascent lies a story reminiscent of the strangler fig’s calculated embrace – a narrative of complexity and intrigue. This exposé plunges into the labyrinthine journey of Fadzai Mahere, weaving together her rise to prominence within the opposition party.

Imagine the strangler fig’s humble seed, carried by chance to the high reaches of a host tree’s branches. Similarly, Mahere’s trajectory within the CCC has taken her to the upper echelons of power with astonishing speed. Skirting traditional hierarchies, she has stirred whispers of favoritism and strategic maneuvering, much like the fig’s roots that descend, forming an intricate network around the host. What facets mark Mahere as the “Iron Lady” of the CCC?

Aside her father Stephen Mahere being the face of the ZANU PF terror network with which he personally signed forms to torture and expel opposition candidates between 2005 and 2013, actions that got him singled by the ZANU PF leadership for being too notorious for ZANU PF itself, leading to ZANU PF Presidency firing him from an Education Ministry job when David Coltart was Minister, the daughter herself is a well known divisive figure in the legal corridors where she is viewed as an implosion risk to any institution she joins, in a sorry tale whose only comparator is that of the great Ndabaningi Sithole when he came out of prison in 1974 refusing to bow to the Rhodesian terror, and would within 2 years be torpedoed by the more eloquent and non deserving Robert Mugabe, the dark skinned English Polish accent talking standing quietly aside the late Maurice Nyagumbo facing journalists. Mahere has a lot of proving to do that she is not an agent of destruction.

A rewind of the late Morgan Tsvangirai’s 2008 election speech before beating ZANU PF hands down leading to the CIO leadership exiting offices to go to Rusape, strongly suggests that the suffering people have never at any time needed a pretty face or a clean Borrowdale accent to amplify its clarity. The chematama-faced Morgan and team was more than enough to destroy ZANU PF, a reality they proved before the whole world that the opposition does not need people whose only CV is that they have climbed the world’s highest mountain, which apparently is in Harare, Mount EverArrest (whose peaks are thick layers of psychotic proclamations when they’ve only arrested and re-arrested themselves for exposing their own corruption).

RECLAIMING THE AFRICAN DREAM. HOW TO ACHIEVE A $ 7 TRILLION GROSS DOMESTIC PRODUCT IN LESS THAN A DECADE.
As of 2022, the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Africa was estimated to be roughly around $ 3.1 trillion. Although there is a great possibility according to economic forecasts that, Africa will be the largest growing economy in the next 2 years, there is still excess capacity in many African countries. This should pose as an opportunity for unlocking value to steer economic growth and development.

POLICY PROPOSALS FOR UNLOCKING VALUE
1) Increase growth and dynamism in the agriculture sector:
Agriculture is the back borne of many African countries and they are endowed with fertile soil and climatic conditions for Agriculture. Moreover, agriculture produce is used in agro-processing factories, this will enable the continent to achieve food security and thwarting importation of food from abroad, hence reigning in budget deficits fuelled by enormous food importation bill by some African countries. Crops with great commercial viability include beans, wheat, maize, sorghum, millet, sugarcane, rice, sunflower, tobbacco, tea, coffee, and cocoa.

2) Continuously promote tourism.
The African continent has the potential to spur its growth through the tourism sector. According to the World Tourism Report, Africa’s tourism earnings are estimated to be $ 90 billion as of 2022. The continent has a great potential to achieve a $ 1 trillion dollar tourism sector in less than a decade. This can be achieved through improving the continent’s image and international relations with the rest of the world, as well as promoting intra-African tourism.

3) Formalise the informal, to boost growth and job creation.
The informal sector in Africa is the greatest contributor of economic activity in the continent but its revenue cannot be easily captured. There is need for supporting these small businesses so that they can become part of the mainstream economy also contributing job and taxation to the government. The government can assist these firms through training, access to finance and market as well as building infrastructure for them when necessary.

4) Improve policy transparency, accountability, to build trust by households to accumulate savings.
African government macroeconomic policies should be consistent, reliable, and prudent. This helps to boost confidence by many households hence resulting in accumulation of savings which can be channelled towards investments which can generate employment and economic growth. The monetary policy of the economy should pursue inflation targeting, favourable interest rates and prudent money supply. With regards to fiscal policy, government should spend but not compromising its fiscus space and should also maintain low tax rates which promotes consumption and investments. Reining in inflation and ensure macroeconomic stability boost confidence, investments, and hot money inflows into the country.

5) Boost sense of belonging in households through accountability and transparency in the provision of public goods.
One of the key roles of the government is to provide public goods, which include social overhead capital like roads, hospitals, schools, bridges, and dams. Efficient provision of these services can give people a sense of belonging hence boosting their confidence in the distributional role of the government, which lead to them contributing to taxation wilfully.

6) Promote international trade and strategic partnership for development.
Other than, engaging in intra-African trade only, African countries should also spearhead international trade with the rest of the world. As a result of this the continent can have a larger market to sell its wares hence securing jobs for its people and improving standards of living of the majority of people.

7) Decentralisation and Setting of SMART goals.
Decentralisation of power and authority can act as a catalyst for advancing economic development in an economy. The vision and goals to be achieved should be articulated from the top cascading to administrative units of governance which can be provinces, districts down to the smallest geographical units. The goals should be Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Timebound (SMART).

8) Value addition and beneficiation, so as to create jobs.
The paradox of Africa is that it is highly resource bound and can even rank on top of the other continents, but its economic performance is disproportionate with its natural endowments. This is on the notions that, the continent suffers from NEGATIVE TERMS OF TRADE, as it exports cheap ram materials abroad. As a result, this is high time for the continent to add value to its products, hence creating jobs for its people.

Vic Falls-Based Artist Tony Witness Drops Song “Slowly”

Entitled “Slowly,” this track marks Tony Witness’s debut release under the JBross Entertainment banner. Recorded at Rarebreed Studios in Chitungwiza and produced by Sachie, the song showcases a fusion of Afrobeat and pop influences. The music video was also shot in Chitungwiza, featuring a video model who also appeared in one of top dancehall artist Freeman’s recent music videos.

Failed Chiwenga Assassination Plot, Junta Pressured To Reverse 2017 Military Coup

By Dorrothy Moyo | In a recent turn of events, revelations have emerged regarding a purported government plan to assassinate Vice President Constantino Chiwenga while he was receiving medical treatment in a South African hospital. These shocking claims, which Emmerson Mnangagwa is yet to comment on, have ignited a fervent debate among analysts and citizens alike about the potential ramifications and implications for Zimbabwe’s political landscape. Analyst Max Lion, a prominent voice in this discourse, asserts that this revelation presents General V.P. Chiwenga with an opportunity to correct the course of the nation, restoring it to a pre-2017 coup state.

Lion contends that the evidence produced during the trial raises questions about the integrity of some of the beneficiaries of the 2017 coup. The coup, which led to the removal of long-time President Robert Mugabe, initially promised a new era for Zimbabwe, but its aftermath was marred by political instability and economic turmoil. The fact that some individuals involved in the coup were allegedly willing to sacrifice the country’s stability for personal gain has left a stain on the coup’s legitimacy.

Lion’s proposal stems from his deep concern for Zimbabwe’s future. He argues that continuing down the path of instability and discord would be detrimental to the nation’s potential. The current political landscape, marked by unfair advantages in elections and leadership lacking ethical principles, only exacerbates the country’s challenges.
A South African medical doctor on Friday claimed that Vice President Constantino Chiwenga’s former wife Mary Mubaiwa told him that President Emmerson Mnangagwa tried to kill his deputy in 2018.
Willi Leo Sieling made the claims while testifying at the Harare magistrates court on Friday in a case where the former model faces a charge of attempting to murder Chiwenga, her ex-husband.
Sieling said Mubaiwa continued pestering him to inject Chiwenga with a dangerous drug known as pethidine to sedate him.
“On June 29, 2019, l was accosted by the suspect (Mubaiwa) who was unhappy that l had allowed a surgeon to place an intercostal drain without her consent,” Sieling told the court.
“She scolded me and shouted at me.
“Nurses reported to me that the suspect was interfering with and hindering the administration of drugs to the complainant.
“The suspect insisted that l had to start giving the complainant pethidine.
“However, it is a highly addictive narcotic analgesic, which l refused to do.”
Sieling added: “There were continuous calls, messages and persistent demands by the suspect for the discharge of the complainant.
“The suspect started from the beginning and consistently told me that his Excellency the President of Zimbabwe wanted to kill the complainant (Chiwenga) starting with the grenade attack.”
Chiwenga escaped unhurt after an explosion hit a tent at the end of a rally at White City Stadium that was addressed by Mnangagwa on the eve of the July 2018 elections.
Dozens of people including then vice president Kembo Mohadi and Defence minister and Zanu PF chairperson, Oppah Muchinguri, security aides, politicians and supporters suffered varying degrees of injuries from the blast.
Three security aides succumbed to the injuries.
Mnangagwa, who had just left the podium after addressing Zanu PF supporters when the explosion went off blowing off the staircase and leaving some people with broken limbs, escaped unhurt.
According to Sieling, sometime in December 2018, he was called by John Mangwiro, Health deputy minister, to attend to Chiwenga at Fire Ice hotel in Pretoria.
“I discussed extensively with the complainant in the suspect’s presence,” the medical doctor said.
“Just before they left, the suspect gave me US$1 900. l do not know what the money was for.
“I just thought it was a gift from the suspect as l had gone out of my way to assist.”
“On the second trip on June 23, 2019, Mangwiro called me saying the complainant was extremely ill and needed admission into at least the High Care unit at NetCare Pretoria Hospital.
“I made arrangements for the complainant’s admission.”
Sieling said he waited until 9.40pm on the day, but Chiwenga was not brought to the hospital forcing him to go to Sheraton Hotel where he was booked to investigate.
At the hotel, Mubaiwa allegedly introduced him to one Dr Bruce Peck.
“I told everyone that the complainant would be dead if he was not admitted at the hospital,” he told the court.
“Seven days before the complainant was discharged, l was in the complainant’s room and l was extremely puzzled because he was extremely sedated as he had been since he was discharged from the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
“I requested a urine specimen.”
Sieling said there was nothing wrong with the urine specimen.
However, a member of Chiwenga’s security team disclosed to him that the retired general was being administered with Pethidine, he said.
Sieling said he arranged that the specimen be extracted through a cystoscopy, and it was confirmed that Chiwenga was administered with Pethidine, but could not identify the person who administered it.
He said Mnangagwa requested a report on what was happening.
Chief secretary to the President and Cabinet Misheck Sibanda also visited South Africa to check on Chiwenga’s health.
The doctor said he suspected that a member of Chiwenga’s security team may have administered dangerous drugs on Chiwenga.
“I was extremely distressed because l knew that l would not be able to do anything further for the complainant and that he would need further therapy,” he said.
Harare magistrate Feresi Chakanyuka moved the case to August 28 for continuation of trial.
According to prosecutors, Mubaiwa intended to finish off Chiwenga when he lay fighting for his life in a Pretoria hospital.
It is alleged that Mubaiwa forced Chiwenga’s security details to leave his hospital room so she could find space to remove life support devices which were connected to the VP.
Chiwenga was later flown to China where he went through successful treatment.

Chamisa Predicts Holy-Ten’s Down-Fall

By-The leader of the opposition CCC, Nelson Chamisa, has predicted the downfall of hip-hop artist Holy Ten should he continue associating with the ruling party.

Chamisa said Holy Ten might lose the support of young people if he continues to endorse Zanu-PF. 

Chamisa’s comments follow Holy Ten’s endorsement of President Emmerson Mnangagwa ahead of the upcoming general elections.

In an interview with an online publication, Chamisa stated that Holy Ten’s association with Zanu-PF would not be advantageous for him. Chamisa questioned whether Holy Ten’s appeal to the youth would surpass that of the opposition, emphasising the importance of understanding the prevailing circumstances. He said:

You think Holy Ten would appeal to youths more than we have? If you believe that, you must be living on another planet, come to the earth and appreciate the circumstances.

Holy Ten must be holy, otherwise his unholy alliances are not going to benefit him, he will lose support because young people do not align with what he is supporting.

Young people do not want this kind of misery and darkness. Holy Ten please be Holy and support holiness.

According to Chamisa, young people desire a departure from the hardships and darkness they associate with the ruling party.

Meanwhile, Holy Ten has faced criticism after a video in which he praises Zanu-PF’s projects from the past five years went viral on social media. One of the people who criticised Holy Ten is journalist Hopewell Chin’ono who said while the musician has the right to support whomever he chooses, it is up to the people of Zimbabwe to decide if they want to continue supporting an artist who aligns with a regime that has imprisoned political opponents like Job Sikhala without conviction.

Alan Moyo Confident Of Victory After President Chamisa Rally

Ward 10 local government candidate Alan Moyo (CCC) is confident of a resounding victory in the 23 August elections.

Speaking after a star rally adressed by CCC President Nelson Chamisa, Moyo said that the residents would vote for development.

“Ward 10 residents have been suffering from lack of leadership that’s why you see there’s no consistent running water in sections of Rhodene, Eastvale and many government departments including Zimuto Police Camp and the 4 Brigade…

We want to work together to speed up the water augmentation process which has been idle for more than a decade to ensure 24/7 tap water for these key areas,”Moyo said.

Council land is largely inaccessible and usually charged in the hard to get USD.

Moyo added:
” I’m going to offer the housing service with a bias towards Ward 10 residents and civil service members. I’m going to ensure that council charges land in the Zimbabwean Dollar and cushion low income residents. What I’m talking about is income sensitive housing and income sensitive billing. We don’t want to put the burden of past mismanagement on the residents and land seekers.”

On rising unemployment, Alan Moyo was optimistic about dealing with this perennial issue in a sustainable way which benefits the residents and the city.
“We have a lot of young people in the ward who are unemployed and they end up bey exploited for cheap labour. This can be easily solved by opening council enterprises which include a brewery to employ the youth through brewing, distribution and retail and to increase council revenue through the sales. We have all the requisit infrastructure and distribution channels, what was lacking is ideas. Quarry reserves are abundant in the ward and I want to partner council with private players to increase employment, empower local businesses and to augment council revenues.”

Ward 10 has perennially suffered from access to health, there is only one mobile unit with a couple of health personnel to service the whole ward. Moyo demonstrated an affinity for health by stating that: “The Ward does not have a clinic presently, and one of my immediate challenges is to construct a state of the art clinic that is compatible for use by women. That is, to include prenatal and postnatal care, borehole water and solar powered to ensure efficient delivery of health services in the ward. Residents walk long distances to the general hospital in Rhodene and resort expensive private clinics which is a barrier to health for our residents.”

Commenting on the violent clashes between armed riot police and CCC members who were attacked with tearsmoke and bashed with baton sticks, Moyo called for peace and tolerance towards the elections.

” It was an unfortunate incident, we know members of the uniformed forces are non partisan. They will vote for change. They are suffering from misgovernance and eroded incomes. Every pay cheque is a nightmare for all of us Zimbabweans. It is the politicians who abuse our police and soldiers and then pay them peanuts, we won’t tolerate that in a new Zimbabwe.”

Alan Moyo is a young social justice activist who campaigned vigorously for affordable education in tertiary institutions and removal of barriers to entry to education. He has also campaigned for pro poor policies and for the commensurate remuneration of government workers given the skyrocketing inflation.

Interim Dynamos head coach Genesis ‘Kaka’ Mangombe got off to the perfect start, as the Glamour Boys edged Simba Bhora 1-0 at Babourfields Stadium yesterday, to advance to the quarter-finals of the Chibuku Super Cup.

Mangombe replaced Herbert ‘Jompano’ Maruwa, who was shown the exit door last week.

Substitute Emmanuel Paga’s solitary strike just after the hour-mark was enough for DeMbare to process to the next stage of the knockout competition, at the expense of Tonderai Ndiraya’s Premiership debutants.

Mangombe was naturally happy with the way his charges fared against a tough opposition.

“Genesis means the beginning. Someone said we have not won this competition since it’s re-introduction. This time we want to work hard and see what we can achieve. We knew it was a derby and at the same time a cup competition. I am happy the boys did well after the second half substitutions,” he told the media after the game.

“Our game plan was to use fast wingers and the plan worked as we managed to run their defence down in the first-half and things were easier for Paga when he came on in the second-half. Robbers Pounce On Shepherd Bushiri Followers During Church Service

A group of robbers forcefully entered Shepherd Bushiri’s church in Mpumalanga on Saturday night and robbed congregants at gunpoint.

According to Police spokesperson Brig Selvy Mohlala, the incident occurred during a night vigil organized by the Enlightened Christian Gathering (ECG), which was founded by Bushiri.

As the congregants were waiting for other members to arrive, three individuals with handguns and their faces concealed entered the church premises. They proceeded to rob the congregants, taking an undisclosed amount of cash, 14 cellphones, personal bank cards, the church’s bank card, and demanding the personal identification numbers (PINs). Police spokesperson Brig Selvy Mohlala said:
The provincial commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lt-Gen Semakaleng Daphney Manamela, has already gathered a team of investigators to work on the case. The general said Mpumalanga police will never allow criminals to walk free and promised to get those behind the robbery behind bars soon.
Mohlala also said the suspects also took two vehicle keys from the congregants before making their escape in a stolen white VW Polo Vivo. The abandoned vehicle was later discovered approximately seven kilometres away from the church in Mzinti.

Bushiri and his wife, Mary, fled from South Africa to Malawi in November 2020 following his arrest on charges of theft and money laundering. He and his wife and two others are accused of stealing $6.6 million through theft, money laundering and fraud in South Africa.

A South African medical doctor on Friday claimed that Vice President Constantino Chiwenga’s former wife Mary Mubaiwa told him that President Emmerson Mnangagwa tried to kill his deputy in 2018.

Willi Leo Sieling made the claims while testifying at the Harare magistrates court on Friday in a case where the former model faces a charge of attempting to murder Chiwenga, her ex-husband.

Sieling said Mubaiwa continued pestering him to inject Chiwenga with a dangerous drug known as pethidine to sedate him.

“On June 29, 2019, l was accosted by the suspect (Mubaiwa) who was unhappy that l had allowed a surgeon to place an intercostal drain without her consent,” Sieling told the court.

“She scolded me and shouted at me.

“Nurses reported to me that the suspect was interfering with and hindering the administration of drugs to the complainant.

“The suspect insisted that l had to start giving the complainant pethidine.

“However, it is a highly addictive narcotic analgesic, which l refused to do.”

Sieling added: “There were continuous calls, messages and persistent demands by the suspect for the discharge of the complainant.

“The suspect started from the beginning and consistently told me that his Excellency the President of Zimbabwe wanted to kill the complainant (Chiwenga) starting with the grenade attack.”

Chiwenga escaped unhurt after an explosion hit a tent at the end of a rally at White City Stadium that was addressed by Mnangagwa on the eve of the July 2018 elections.

Dozens of people including then vice president Kembo Mohadi and Defence minister and Zanu PF chairperson, Oppah Muchinguri, security aides, politicians and supporters suffered varying degrees of injuries from the blast.

Three security aides succumbed to the injuries.

Mnangagwa, who had just left the podium after addressing Zanu PF supporters when the explosion went off blowing off the staircase and leaving some people with broken limbs, escaped unhurt.

According to Sieling, sometime in December 2018, he was called by John Mangwiro, Health deputy minister, to attend to Chiwenga at Fire Ice hotel in Pretoria.

“I discussed extensively with the complainant in the suspect’s presence,” the medical doctor said.

“Just before they left, the suspect gave me US$1 900. l do not know what the money was for.

“I just thought it was a gift from the suspect as l had gone out of my way to assist.”

“On the second trip on June 23, 2019, Mangwiro called me saying the complainant was extremely ill and needed admission into at least the High Care unit at NetCare Pretoria Hospital.

“I made arrangements for the complainant’s admission.”

Sieling said he waited until 9.40pm on the day, but Chiwenga was not brought to the hospital forcing him to go to Sheraton Hotel where he was booked to investigate.

At the hotel, Mubaiwa allegedly introduced him to one Dr Bruce Peck.

“I told everyone that the complainant would be dead if he was not admitted at the hospital,” he told the court.

“Seven days before the complainant was discharged, l was in the complainant’s room and l was extremely puzzled because he was extremely sedated as he had been since he was discharged from the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

“I requested a urine specimen.”

Sieling said there was nothing wrong with the urine specimen.

However, a member of Chiwenga’s security team disclosed to him that the retired general was being administered with Pethidine, he said.

Sieling said he arranged that the specimen be extracted through a cystoscopy, and it was confirmed that Chiwenga was administered with Pethidine, but could not identify the person who administered it.

He said Mnangagwa requested a report on what was happening.

Chief secretary to the President and Cabinet Misheck Sibanda also visited South Africa to check on Chiwenga’s health.

The doctor said he suspected that a member of Chiwenga’s security team may have administered dangerous drugs on Chiwenga.

“I was extremely distressed because l knew that l would not be able to do anything further for the complainant and that he would need further therapy,” he said.

Harare magistrate Feresi Chakanyuka moved the case to August 28 for continuation of trial.

According to prosecutors, Mubaiwa intended to finish off Chiwenga when he lay fighting for his life in a Pretoria hospital.

It is alleged that Mubaiwa forced Chiwenga’s security details to leave his hospital room so she could find space to remove life support devices which were connected to the VP.

Chiwenga was later flown to China where he went through successful treatment.

Ignatius and Wendy Chiriri. The attack occurred on Sunday while the candidates were distributing campaign fliers.

Eyewitnesses revealed that the attackers used logs, stones, and cables to assault the campaign team members. A woman identified as Mai Chipwai suffered particularly brutal treatment, sustaining broken fingers and extensive swelling from the assault. Witnesses expressed deep concern, stating that she was “almost killed” during the attack.

The alarming incident took a distressing turn when the attackers proceeded to ransack Wendy Chiriri’s residence. The assailants stole valuable items, including $500 USD, a gas tank, grocery cartons filled with flour and sugar, as well as IDs and passports. This escalation has raised concerns over the safety of political candidates and their supporters.

In a disconcerting twist, three individuals are now missing following the attack, prompting fears of possible abductions. The Zimbabwe Human Rights Platform has reported their disappearance, further adding to the gravity of the situation.

In a decisive and impactful ruling, Ntabiso Ncube, the armed robber responsible for the tragic death of a police officer in Bulawayo’s New Luveve suburb in 2021, has been sentenced to life in prison. The sentencing, delivered by Bulawayo High Court judge Justice Nokuthula Moyo, signifies a stern response to violent crimes that threaten the peaceful fabric of Zimbabwe.

Ncube’s actions resulted in the death of police officer Mr. Gibson Tafara Madzimure during a foiled robbery attempt. In her address, Justice Moyo emphasized the gravity of the crime, declaring that Mr. Madzimure’s death was a result of a violent act that warranted a severe sentence. She highlighted that Zimbabwe’s reputation for being a peaceful nation with low rates of gun-related crimes must be upheld, and harsh penalties are necessary to deter criminals who engage in such extreme violence.

According to the State’s case, presented by Mr. Kudakwashe Jaravaza, Ncube, aged 43 and a resident of Lobengula West suburb, was injured during a shootout with the police in August 2021 while attempting to rob a suspected illegal foreign currency dealer’s house. During this encounter, Ncube fired the fatal shot that claimed the life of Officer Madzimure. The officer was part of a police team that successfully thwarted the robbery attempt.

After the tragic shooting, Ncube managed to escape the scene amidst gunfire from the police, leaving behind a CZ pistol and a trail of blood. Despite his escape, diligent investigations led police officers to locate and arrest Ncube at his hideout in Lobengula West suburb the following day.

Marry Mubaiwa Trial-Allegations of Attempted Murder on VP Chiwenga

In a shocking turn of events, the fifth witness in the trial of Marry Mubaiwa has made staggering allegations, claiming that she pressured medical professionals to administer dangerous drugs to her ex-husband, Vice President Constantino Chiwenga. Mubaiwa is facing charges of attempting to kill Chiwenga by tampering with his medical care while he was on life support in a South African hospital.

South African physician, Dr. Willi Leo Sieling, delivered riveting testimony in court yesterday, shedding light on the alleged attempts to harm Vice President Chiwenga. According to Dr. Sieling, Mubaiwa was displeased with the medical treatment Chiwenga was receiving and sought ways to exert control over the situation.

Dr. Sieling recounted two key incidents in his testimony. He revealed that in December 2018, he was summoned by Dr. John Mangwiro, the Health Deputy Minister, to attend to Chiwenga at a hotel in Pretoria. As Zimbabwe approaches the harmonised elections scheduled to take place on August 23, 2023, reports of violence and voter intimidation have been increasing. Concerns are arising that these acts may undermine the fairness, freedom and credibility of the upcoming polls.

President Chamisa And A New Great Zimbabwe Blueprint For Everyone: A Statesman Is Born

We are just a few days to yet another make or break general election which is set for 23 August 2023. The nation is on the cusp of glory and a new chapter if CCC presidential candidate, Advocate Nelson Chamisa emerges victorious as is widely expected.

Twenty-free August (as citizens refer to the election date) presents citizens with a perfect opportunity to put an end to the corrupt ZANU PF regime that has caused a lot of untold suffering and penury.

For more than 43 years, the country has been dragged into some of the worst and darkest episodes under successive ZANU PF dictatorships.

Zimbabwe is still licking wounds of the liberation struggle, Gukurahundi, Murambatsvina and violence during elections. There is so much anger and unresolved past injustices.

The country is crying for a statesman!

A selfless leader who will unify a compartmentalized nation. A leader who preaches love, tolerance and forgiveness- one who is above partisan and parochial party politics.

CCC presidential candidate, Advocate Nelson Chamisa aptly fits the bill. His election manifesto dubbed, A New Great Zimbabwe For Everyone is a testament of a leader who wants the best for his countrymen.

On Gukurahundi, President Chamisa promised to apologize on behalf of government to people in Matabeleland and Midlands for the genocide committed by the state.

This is something that ZANU PF leader, Emmerson Mnangagwa and his predecessor, Robert Mugabe refused to do years after Gukurahundi.

On land, President Chamisa is promising to grant title deeds to beneficiaries of land reform. The land question is one of the key issue of the liberation agenda and that issue remains unsolved up to now. Actually we have seen locals being moved from their ancestral lands to pave way for foreigners under Mnangagwa’s so called new dispensation.

A statesman is one who wants his people to benefit from his country’s wealth. In that regard, President Chamisa has promised to make sure that locals benefit from the country’s vast mineral wealth through value beneficiation. Like a true statesman, President Chamisa also promised to set up a sovereign wealth fund that will benefit future generations.

That is sustainable development as opposed to Emmerson Mnangagwa’s gold mafia!

Be Cautious, Road Users Warned

GOVERNMENT has appealed to all road users to respect traffic rules over the Heroes and Defence Forces holidays to avoid loss of lives.

The Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe has launched the Heroes and Defence Forces Holiday Road Safety Campaign to raise awareness among road users on the importance of observing traffic rules.

The Deputy Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development, Honourable Mike Madiro says the move is meant to reduce road carnage after an average of 132 road traffic accidents, 12 fatalities and 17 injuries were recorded in 2021 and 2022.

“What we are basically alluding to is that to achieve sanity on the roads, everyone must learn to share the space by respecting other road users. As the country gears up for the heroes and defence forces holiday it is important to appreciate the significance of road safety as we anticipate increased traffic on our roads,” he said.

As part of the campaign, 37 mobile teams of traffic safety officers and traffic police officers have been deployed along the country’s major highways.

“I wish to appeal to all road users to respect the rules of the road. Addressing the issue of road safety should not be left to the council alone or the police. Still, it is everyone’s responsibility,” said Permanent Secretary for Mashonaland Central Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Mr Timothy Maregere.

“The issue of road safety touches everyone, some will be passengers, some will be pedestrians and even a motorist can be a pedestrian so everyone must know how to use the road,” said Mr Munesu Munodawafa from the Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe.

Meanwhile, the Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe has donated bedding material and linen to capacitate Mount Darwin Hospital which recently assisted scores of people injured in the Dotito bus accident in June this year.

What Are The Key Components Of Breastfeeding?

Breastfeeding is one of the most effective ways to ensure child health and survival. However, contrary to WHO recommendations, fewer than half of infants under 6 months old are exclusively breastfed.

Breastmilk is the ideal food for infants. It is safe, clean and contains antibodies which help protect against many common childhood illnesses. Breastmilk provides all the energy and nutrients that the infant needs for the first months of life, and it continues to provide up to half or more of a child’s nutritional needs during the second half of the first year, and up to one third during the second year of life.

Breastfed children perform better on intelligence tests, are less likely to be overweight or obese and less prone to diabetes later in life. Women who breastfeed also have a reduced risk of breast and ovarian cancers.

Inappropriate marketing of breast-milk substitutes continues to undermine efforts to improve breastfeeding rates and duration worldwide.

Chrome Mining In Zimbabwe

Chrome mining in Zimbabwe has seen significant growth in recent years, spurred by the country’s vast chromite deposits and the increasing demand for chrome worldwide.

The country holds approximately 12% of the global chromite reserves, making it a valuable player in the chrome mining industry.

Key chromite mining areas in Zimbabwe include the Great Dyke, Shurugwi, Zvishavane, and Mashava.

With the giant integrated iron and steel plant that is being constructed by Chinese investor, Dinson Iron and Steel Company (Disco) and the world-class iron and steel plant would tap into a resource base that is estimated to last for approximately 100 years and comprises a carbon and steel plant, an iron ore mine, and a ferrochrome plant which will benefit people and Chrome miners around Zimbabwe.

Zanu PF, Police Block CCC Harare Mayor From Opening Rufaro Stadium

By- Harare Provincial Affairs and Devolution in the Office of the President and Cabinet secretary, Tafadzwa Muguti has directed the police to block Harare Mayor Jacob Mafume from re-opening Rufaro Stadium.

Zanu PF imposed Muguti to oversee the affairs of the Harare metropolitan province without consulting other stakeholders. Zanu PF did this to dilute the powers of the CCC-led Harare city council.

Mafume had planned to commission Rufaro Stadium on Thursday and some guests, who included the Zifa Stabilisation Committee chairman Lincoln Mutasa, were at the venue before later being dispersed by police.

Both Muguti and the Zifa committee responsible for stadium inspection and approval say Mafume had been renovating independently without engaging them.

The refurbishments at the facility are complete, making the venue usable for public events.

By the time guests had gathered, Council workers were finalising working on dressing rooms, and toilets, clearing debris and attending to other facilities, which were more than 50 per cent complete on the day the local authority had committed to handing over the stadium to football authorities.

Police on Thursday explained the reasons behind their dispersing of officials, who had gathered at Rufaro amid light drizzles for the commissioning.
“With regards to media queries on the status of Rufaro Stadium in Harare and the issue of maintenance of law and order, the ZRP reiterates that it stands guided by the Permanent Secretary for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Harare Province as he is the one in charge of Government and local authorities programmes in the city,” said ZRP spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi.
Muguti said the rehabilitation of Rufaro was supposed to be done under an inter-ministerial taskforce which looks at the maintenance of sporting facilities.
“Government’s position is very clear. We have an inter-ministerial taskforce which looks at the upkeep and the maintenance of stadiums, including the design and the construction of public infrastructure and all local authorities are supposed to work within this structure.
“The City of Harare was advised through my office last month to please ensure that if they are building Rufaro or are renovating Rufaro they stand guided through the Ministry of Youth Sport, Arts and Recreation.
“Through Honourable Kirsty Coventry, as well as the Sports and Recreation Commission, they are the one who oversee (issues of stadiums and sports amenities).
“So as it is, building or renovating a stadium is not a one man’s job. It’s a collective effort of all stakeholders. Consulting with ZIFA or PSL is not enough. It needs to be certified and the certification is under the jurisdiction of the Ministry, and this has since been communicated.

Mwonzora Goes For ZEC

By-The Douglas Mwonzora-led Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) has blasted the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC), saying it lacks the authority to compel their party’s participation in the upcoming 2023 harmonized election.

The MDC alleges that ZEC is fraudulent. 

Mwonzora withdrew from the presidential race due to concerns regarding the ZEC’s mishandling of the electoral process. 

He expressed discontent with the ZEC’s decision to exclude 87 MDC candidates for Members of Parliament, perceiving it as an act of political discrimination.

Subsequently, the ZEC promptly issued a statement clarifying that a presidential candidate has the option to withdraw from the race by providing written notification to the Chief Elections Officer of the ZEC, 21 days prior to the polling day. This announcement was widely interpreted as implying that the ZEC had already printed the ballot papers, with Mwonzora’s name included despite his withdrawal. Conversely, presidential aspirant Saviour Kasukuwere, who was disqualified from the election, does not appear on the ballot papers, despite his case still being pending before the courts. This has led to speculation that the election outcome has been predetermined.

In a statement obtained by Pindula News and dated August 11, 2023, the MDC asserts that the ZEC cannot coerce them into participating in the elections. Reads the statement:

ZEC Can’t Force Us to Participate in a Fraudulent Election

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) issued a statement that our Presidential candidate cannot withdraw his candidature. In their reply to us delivered on the 9th of August 2023, ZEC stated that they cannot “remove” our candidate’s name on the ballot paper.

The impression here is that the ballot paper has already been printed. How can that be, when the case of a presidential candidate Saviour Kasukuwere was still pending in the courts? We are boycotting the election because ZEC unfairly disqualified 87 of our parliamentary candidates. Further, there has been selective application of the law against the MDC.

In cases to do with rights of candidates to participate, ZEC has always acted in favor of candidates participating. However, It has acted differently In cases involving the MDC. In fact, it has mounted spirited legal battles against the participation by MDC candidates. This is a matter of historical record. The MDC cannot accept this discrimination by an election management body.

What is clear is that ZEC is punishing the MDC for having challenged the delimitation report. It is insisting on our candidate to remain in the race because they have prematurely printed ballot papers and they know it is illegal. The MDC can never agree to be part of a farce and a sham that this election has turned out to be.

We reiterate that our President cannot be forced to take part in a process that lacks integrity. ZEC knows that it has made this election a serious and monumental fraud.

In May, Mwonzora contested the ZEC delimitation report, alleging that it favoured the ZANU PF party. However, he lost the case on a technicality when the courts ruled that Mwonzora was not affected by delimitation since his constituency encompassed the entirety of Zimbabwe. As a result, voters have the freedom to select presidential candidates regardless of their geographical location. Mwonzora sought a court declaration to invalidate the delimitation, instruct the ZEC to redo the process, and compel President Emmerson Mnangagwa to postpone setting an election date until a new delimitation report was available. If Mwonzora’s application had been granted by the Constitutional Court, the 2023 general elections would have been delayed. Chief Justice Luke Malaba argued that as a presidential candidate, Mwonzora was not impacted by constituency boundaries. Additionally, he questioned why Mwonzora, as the leader of the MDC-T, had not presented sworn affidavits from potential candidates who would have been adversely affected by the delimitation.

Mnangagwa Threatens Chamisa

By- Zanu PF President Emmerson Mnangagwa has threatened the CCC leader Nelson Chamisa with state-sponsored violence should he challenge the outcome of the 23 August election results.

Zanu PF has predicted a landslide victory in the elections.

Speaking at the annual service for Johane the 5th of Africa International Church in Mvuma, Mnangagwa warned foreign nations, which are darlings of the opposition, against interfering in the country’s internal affairs.
“Yesterday (Thursday) another man, I mean, a toddler said if he fails to win elections there will be chaos. If you did not breastfeed enough, go back to your mother if she is still there. If you don’t know democracy, go back and collect your school fees,” the President said in an apparent dig at CCC leader Mr Nelson Chamisa who has threatened chaos if he loses polls.
“It is true that among monkeys there is no young one that mingles with the elders. Let madmen play with fellow madmen, leaving sane people to play among themselves. We reject those who have tendencies to cause disruptions, who cause chaos and violence in our motherland,” he said.
The President said the country should continue to maintain peace so that Zimbabweans build their nation together in love, unity and harmony.
He said while there were rogue elements who may come preaching violence, Zimbabweans should ignore them.

“Now we have elections ahead of us on the 23rd of this month. We, the people of Zimbabwe are the ones who said we should have elections on that date. They should not interfere. Those who want to observe should come but just to observe, while we practice our democracy in peace. I want to thank the people of Zimbabwe, up to now the country is peaceful, united,” he said.
The President described Zimbabwe as a champion of democracy and said no nation should dare teach it the democratic tenets.
“There are some people, maybe they will be drunk, who try to teach us democracy. We fought for it, we fought for independence, freedom and no one will teach us democracy because we fought for it ourselves.
“We brought this democracy, it is ours we shall keep it, no one will teach us. Teach yourselves in your own countries, your own democracy there. We will teach ourselves our own democracy,” he said.
As a God-fearing nation, the President said, Zimbabwe will remain a friend to all and an enemy to none.
“My Government will leave no one. This is why we have this philosophy at the local level to say ‘we leave no one and no place behind’ in our leadership. Internationally, we say we are a friend to all and an enemy to none, so those who choose to be our enemies that is not our choice it is their choice.
“We as Zimbabweans choose to be friends to everybody because we are Christians,” he said.
The President decried drug and substance abuse among youths, saying that scourge should be dealt with immediately as it destroys the country’s future.
“Now we have children who have become a menace due to drug abuse, but from time immemorial one generation after another, heritage would be passed, what is needed is to make the world better than we found it.
“So we are building our country so that we leave our heritage in safe hands. We cannot entrust it to drug addicts, who, if they take drugs, will be unconscious most of the time. We want them to have the zeal to work and respect parents, teachers, their country and to uplift and maintain our heritage,” he said.
President Mnangagwa highlighted that under the Second Republic, Zimbabwe will be built by its citizenry as evidenced by a record number of projects completed nationwide. Herald

Mwonzora Pushes For Electoral Reforms

By-The Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) says it would organize 3000 individuals to protest against the lack of electoral reforms in Zimbabwe. 

In an official letter dated August 9, 2023, addressed to the Regulating Officer of the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) at Harare Central Police Station, the party’s national organizing secretary, Benevolence Taisekwa, said they would march from Robert Mugabe Square to 4th Street. The intended march follows Mwonzora’s recent announcement to withdraw from the 2023 presidential race. Mwonzora cited an uneven playing field, strategically designed to hinder the MDC’s chances of success. In particular, he expressed concerns over the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission’s (ZEC) management of the elections. Mwonzora’s dissatisfaction was fueled by the ZEC’s decision to disqualify the party’s 87 MP candidates, leaving MDC with only 24 Parliamentary candidates. He viewed this disqualification as a form of political discrimination.

Gays Power- Museveni Loses World Bank Funding

By-The World Bank has suspended new funding to Uganda over that country’s anti-gay law.

 The law, which includes severe penalties such as the death sentence for certain same-sex acts, is deemed by the World Bank to contradict its core values.

Consequently, the World Bank has opted to halt the disbursement of new funds until it can evaluate and implement measures to prevent discrimination within the projects it financially supports. The World Bank currently maintains an existing portfolio of projects in Uganda totalling $5.2 billion, and these ongoing initiatives will not be impacted by the funding suspension.

Since the law’s enactment in May, it has faced extensive criticism from both local and international human rights organizations, as well as Western governments. However, it has garnered significant support within Uganda itself.

In response to the World Bank’s decision, President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda expressed his disapproval and pledged to explore alternative sources of credit. He also highlighted that Uganda intends to reduce its reliance on borrowing and will not succumb to pressure from foreign institutions that seek to undermine its faith, culture, principles, and sovereignty through financial means. He said:

It is, therefore, unfortunate that the World Bank and other actors dare to want to coerce us into abandoning our faith, culture, principles and sovereignty, using money. They really underestimate all Africans.

Museveni emphasised that if the need for borrowing arises, Uganda can seek funding from other sources, with anticipated revenues from oil production, slated to commence by 2025, serving as an additional economic resource.

Museveni expressed the hope that the World Bank would reconsider its stance on the matter.

To address the potential financial ramifications of the funding suspension, the Ugandan government intends to present a revised budget for the fiscal year 2023-2024 (July to June) to parliament for approval. Junior finance minister Henry Musasizi informed lawmakers that the government plans to submit the revised budget within a week, seeking their endorsement.

In June, the United States responded to the enactment of the anti-LGBTQ law by imposing visa restrictions on certain Ugandan officials. President Joe Biden also ordered a review of U.S. aid to Uganda in light of these developments.

A significant number of African countries have laws and cultural attitudes that do not support or recognise the rights of the LGBTQ+ community. Many countries in Africa have legislation that criminalises same-sex relationships and activities, with penalties ranging from fines to imprisonment and, in some cases, even the death penalty.

Zim Economic Movement Condemns Mutsvangwa’s Call to Arms | Full Text

In response to a recent call by Chris Mutsvangwa, a senior official within Zimbabwe’s ruling ZANU-PF party, for dissatisfied individuals to “go to war” if unhappy with the current government, the Zimbabwean Economic Movement has issued a strong condemnation.

Mutsvangwa’s statement was delivered during a discussion focused on Zimbabwe’s upcoming 2023 elections, held at Chatham House, a renowned platform for international affairs dialogue. He urged those discontented with the government’s policies to emulate historical instances of conflict, specifically the struggle against Ian Smith’s regime.

However, the Zimbabwean Economic Movement, representing a peaceful stance advocating for the rights of the people, firmly denounced the call to arms. The movement asserts that it seeks change through nonviolent means and envisions a government that prioritizes accountability and the enhancement of Zimbabweans’ quality of life.

In an official statement, the Zimbabwean Economic Movement criticized Mutsvangwa’s remarks as a potential strategy to suppress critical voices by means of intimidation. The movement expressed deep concern over the senior party official’s statement, highlighting the chilling effect it could have on individuals advocating for change within the nation.

Emphasizing a commitment to peaceful change, the Zimbabwean Economic Movement called upon Mutsvangwa to retract his statement and extend an apology to the nation’s citizens. Furthermore, the movement implored the international community to denounce Mutsvangwa’s remarks, while also rallying support for the democratic aspirations and pursuit of justice by the Zimbabwean people.

Having garnered growing support across the country, the Zimbabwean Economic Movement remains steadfast in its mission for a more promising national future. Drunk Man Demands Lula-lula After Breaking Into Married Woman’s House

A drunk man from Iminyela suburb in Bulawayo caused drama when he allegedly smashed a window pane before he gained entry into the house and demanded to have sex with a married woman.

It is alleged Lloyd Sibanda (26) arrived at his sister-in-law’s house at around 11pm before he smashed one of the window panes and got into the room where Busani Dube and his wife Sithandweyinkosi Zulu were sleeping.

It is said he unzipped his pair of trousers and demanded to have sex with Zulu.

It is reported that Dube tried to restrain him but Sibanda overpowered him and threatened to bash him. 

Dube rushed out of the room and called neighbours to help restrain Sibanda who was parading his privates while threatening to sleep with Zulu, the court heard.

Sibanda’s mother reportedly heard the commotion caused by her son before she rushed to the scene where she found him and ordered him to zip up and leave for their house. 

He refused, forcing neighbours to grab him and drag him to a police station leading to his arrest.

He appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Gamuchirai Gore facing two counts, one of indecent assault and malicious damage to property.

He pleaded not guilty to both counts and was remanded out of custody to 16 August for commencement of trial.

Executive powers have been exercised to give freedom to those condemned by the Judiciary and community. Who then is going to protect the vulnerable ? Paedophiles should have no place in the society and the same applies to rapists.

The release of the famous rapists known for Mnangagwa huchi rant is torture to her victim. Her wounds got rubbed deeper when he got Presidential assistance.

I encourage the Government to consider offering the Rape Victim Counselling and Assistance than to focus on the perpetrator who has turned famous just for a statement.

Munyeza Accused Of Dressing Down Mutemererwa’s Lawyer

HARARE – The debt row pitying Marjorie Mutemererwa and Shingi Munyeza escalated this week with the ex SeedCo public relations manager’s lawyer filing a police report against the businessman for allegedly swearing and threatening her.

Munyeza and his wife, Wilma were ordered by Harare High Court judge David Mangota last month to pay back US$100,000 they owed to Mutemererwa.

On August 9, 2023, it is alleged, Mutemererwa, accompanied by the Sherriff and her lawyer Priviledge Seda of Masango Seda and Mutema Attorneys, went to Munyeza’s home in Borrowdale Brooke to serve him two summons of civil imprisonment if he fails to pay the debt and another attaching his cars.

“On August 9, the Sheriff and my lawyer arrived at Shingi’s residence and he refused to open his gate.

“My lawyer called him and Shingi then called his own lawyer who in turn advised him to open the gate,” Mutemererwa said.

“Shingi started belittling and lecturing and bullying my lawyer telling him that he is a small boy who should just sit down.

“He said he (Munyeza) is a presidential advisor and is untouchable. The Sheriff went ahead and served the summons.”

The lawyer later filed a police report against Munyeza, a former Group Chief Executive at African Sun Limited and member of the Presidential Advisory Council (PAC).

The matter was recorded under RRB 5667833 at the Borrowdale police station.

The fall-out started when Mutemererwa loaned the Munyezas US$85,000 from her retirement package with the couple promising to pay back the money with US$15,000 being interest.

She was forced to take them to court when the couple failed to honour its end of the agreement.

Kasukuwere Loses Yet Another Court Application

High Court Judge Justice Tawanda Chitapi has ruled against presidential aspirant Saviour Kasukuwere’s urgent application to cancel Statutory Instrument 140A of 2023, which amended the Electoral Act regarding postal voting.

The High Court has determined that Kasukuwere’s challenge on Statutory Instrument (SI) 140A of 2023 is administrative and does not constitute a change in the law. 

The Statutory Instrument allowed the Chief Elections Officer to receive postal votes up to three days before the voting day instead of 14 days.

In his ruling, Justice Chitapi stated that he was not convinced of the application’s merit and dismissed it with costs. 

Justice Chitapi said:I am of the view that the law was not changed, and that any periods provided by the Act can be altered.

My view is that the passage of SI 140A is administrative, exercised as and when necessary to do so.

It cannot be held that the exercise of the power given is alteration of the law. SI 140A therefore amounts to a conduct of implementation of the law, not changing the law.

My view is that the Electoral law remains extant: it is the same law which says implement me in this way, an exercise which makes sure that the implementation is done properly.

I am not persuaded that this matter has merits to stand. The application is dismissed with no order as to the costs.

Speaking after the ruling, Kasukuwere expressed said he respects the ruling delivered by Justice Chitapi.

He said:If you disagree with a position, you go to court. Courts are not approached with a predetermined outcome.

We respect the judgement handed down this afternoon by Hon Chitapi, J.

Some Context:The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) last week altered the period specified in the Electoral Act for the dispatch of postal ballot papers for the 2023 general elections. 

The Commission said due to the high number of court applications and appeals against the decision of the nomination court, the Commission has been unable to print and distribute ballot papers until the finalisation of the said matters.

The alteration allows for a shorter period for the dispatch of covering envelopes for postal ballots, with the deadline now set at noon three days before polling day instead of noon on the fourteenth day before polling day.

The regulations have been approved by the Minister of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs.

By Dorrothy Moyo | In an unexpected turn of events, the planned twin burial of national heroes, Brigadier-General (Retired) Milton Siziba and Ambassador Johannes Tomana, has been overshadowed by the absence of the disgraced late preacher Ezekiel Guti. The Guti family, who initially celebrated the announcement that Ezekiel Guti would be buried at the National Heroes Acre, have now taken his remains to Bindura, evading questions about the sudden change.

Journalists have unearthed records revealing that Ezekiel Guti had illicitly benefited from funds allocated by the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe for the disadvantaged. This revelation has led to public outrage and has seemingly forced the family to discreetly move his body away from the capital city, Harare.

The Ministry of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage confirmed the dual burial for Brig-Gen Siziba and Ambassador Tomana, set to take place on Monday, August 14, 2023.

ED Mnangagwa is expected to preside over the event, with several high-ranking government officials and diplomats in attendance.

Brig-Gen Siziba, a former Zipra cadre, had risen to the rank of Brigadier General in the Zimbabwe National Army. Ambassador Tomana, a lawyer by profession, had served in various capacities within the legal and diplomatic realms. However, these remarkable careers have been overshadowed by the controversy surrounding Ezekiel Guti’s exclusion from the Heroes Acre.

Zanu PF Leaders Accused Of Abusing Youths

ZANU PF party senior officials have been accused of luring unemployed youth into engaging in acts of political violence in exchange for money, alcohol, and small gifts.

These allegations emerged during a youth event on peace in electoral processes organised by a local civic group 4-H Zimbabwe in partnership with the Embassy of Switzerland.

Youth representatives from various political parties attended the event and signed a peace pledge ahead of the upcoming elections on August 23.

Womberaishe Nhende, a representative from the CCC highlighted the exploitation of vulnerable unemployed youth by the ruling elite.

He said:Youths are being used as actors of violence.

These youths are unemployed and they are economically victimised and as a result they are made vulnerable.

They are paid a few dollars, beer and then they are instigated into political violence by political gatekeepers.

The youths are being prevented from getting into positions of political influence but they are just there to put other comrades in power through violence.

Zanu PF representative Taurai Kandishaya denied the accusations, emphasizing the party’s commitment to peaceful elections.

He said:We are going to have peaceful elections, there won’t be violence as we are a peaceful party.

The peace pledge is a fulfilment of what our president Emmerson Mnangagwa is saying that we need peace. It also feeds into the motto of Zanu PF of unity and peace.

The Embassy of Switzerland condemned political violence and stressed the need for long-term election reforms.

The Embassy’s representative, Stéphane Rey, said:Electoral violence is a symptom whose real cause must be addressed through long-term election reforms.The successful implementation of this peace pledge would pave way for an inclusive post-election dialogue on comprehensive reforms.

The director of 4-H Zimbabwe, John Muchenje, highlighted the concerning trend of politically motivated violence involving youth, which has prompted the organisation to hold a peace signing ceremony.

Human rights watchdogs have warned that Zimbabwe is at risk of facing another disputed election marred by political violence.

The Zimbabwe Peace Project (ZPP) has been documenting instances of political violence, including the assault on CCC member Vutisani Mushiyi in Chilonga Ward 7 of Chiredzi South.

The ZPP report described severe injuries inflicted on Mushiyi by a group of suspected ZANU PF activists armed with weapons.

Additionally, the ZPP highlighted a prominent diamond dealer in Chiadzwa, Manicaland, who is allegedly leading a campaign of terror against opposition supporters.

The report stated that ZANU PF members are compiling lists of suspected opposition supporters and making threats of violence if the ruling party does not win the upcoming polls.

ZANU PF Mutare West MP Nyasha Marange dismissed the ZPP report, expressing confidence in the peaceful campaigning of ZANU PF.

The ZPP recommends that political parties take action to control their supporters and ensure a peaceful environment leading up to the elections.Zimbabwe has experienced a surge in such cases recently.

Tragically, a supporter of the CCC, Tinashe Edson Chitsunge, was stoned to death by a suspected ZANU PF group in Glen Norah.

Chief Mtshane Khumalo Takes Over From Charumbira

Chief Mtshane Khumalo from Matabeleland North has been elected the new President of the Council of Chiefs unopposed.

He takes over from Chief Fortune Charumbira, who now deputises him after being elected unopposed in an election presided over by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission in Harare this Thursday.

The result also confirms Chiefs Khumalo and Charumbira’s automatic election into Senate.

The election of the two office bearers concludes the National Council of Chiefs polls which started on the 3rd of this month when elections were held in the eight non-metropolitan provinces to choose the 36 members of the chiefs’ council.

Guti Laid To Rest In Bindura

THE late national hero and founder of the ZAOGA Forward in Faith Ministries, Archbishop Ezekiel Guti has been buried in Bindura on a mountain where the first ZAOGA church was built in 1960.

The burial place, popularly known as the Prayer Mountain, also houses a cathedral and a huge auditorium known as the Healing Centre.

The first port of call for the body of the late national hero was the Zimbabwe Ezekiel Guti University where a brief address to staff and students was held.

From there, the body was taken to the Healing Centre in Bindura where several speakers from government officials to church leaders based locally and abroad paid tribute to a humble servant of God.

Apostle Eunor Guti encouraged the church to remain united and emulate the life of Baba Guti.

After the speeches, it was time for Archbishop Guti to be taken to his final resting place, a mausoleum built at the site of the old church.

He was interred with full military honours befitting his national hero status.

Born at Ngaone in Chipinge in 1923, Archbishop Ezekiel Guti was called into Ministry at the age of 15, going on to preach the word of God when he turned 25.

His journey was remarkable as he went on to preach the word of God non-stop for 75 years, planting churches in 163 countries.

In addition, Baba Guti established several schools, Mbuya Dorcas Maternity Hospital, and the Zimbabwe Ezekiel Guti University and published 168 books among his illustrious works.

He died at the age of 100 on the 5th of July this year.

He is survived by his wife Eunor, several children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Beer Truck Looted

Truck Loaded with Beer Worth R195,000 Looted in Musina; Police Launch Manhunt for Armed Suspects

In a daring heist that unfolded on Wednesday evening, a truck loaded with alcohol worth R195,000 was looted by armed suspects in Musina. The incident took place when the victim and two friends were driving a white Toyota bakkie towing a trailer filled with beverages. Their vehicle was suddenly intercepted and blocked by a group of unknown armed individuals.

The robbers swiftly took control of the situation, driving off with the bakkie and leaving the victims stranded without their trailer. Local authorities were alerted immediately, prompting an intensive search operation to track down the criminals responsible for the brazen theft.

In a fortunate turn of events, the stolen trailer loaded with alcohol was discovered the following day at an unoccupied RDP house in Musina’s Ext 14 Matswale area. Police members involved in Operation Kukula, acting on intelligence provided by crime investigators, successfully located the hijacked trailer hidden at the abandoned property.

Upon notification, the victim was brought to the scene where he confirmed the recovery of his stolen goods. The trailer remained loaded with the alcohol, a sign of the swift action taken by law enforcement to retrieve the looted merchandise.

Limpopo police commissioner Lt-Gen Thembi Hadebe expressed her gratitude towards the officers for their dedication in recovering the hijacked trailer. She has instructed the detectives to intensify their efforts in tracing and apprehending the armed suspects responsible for the theft.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with relevant information to come forward. Jacob Zuma’s Imprisoned For 60 Seconds

In a twist turn of events, former President Jacob Zuma of South Africa was spared from returning to prison after just an hour of surrendering himself to authorities. Zuma, who had been sentenced to 15 months in prison for contempt of court, had initially surrendered to serve his sentence on Friday.

The 81-year-old former leader had been previously released on medical parole, a decision that was later deemed illegal by the courts. However, Justice Minister Ronald Lamola announced that Zuma’s brief stay in prison was granted as part of a remission program aimed at addressing the severe overcrowding in South Africa’s prisons.

More than 9,000 low-risk prisoners, including Zuma, have been released under this program since its inception in April. Minister Lamola emphasized that the decision was made by prison authorities without any political influence and asserted that Zuma did not receive special treatment.

The remission process seeks to alleviate the strain on the prison system by releasing low-risk offenders, as South Africa’s prisons currently hold 47% more inmates than their official capacity. This issue was exacerbated by a recent prison fire, which forced the transfer of nearly 4,000 inmates to other facilities lacking adequate resources.

According to South Africa’s Commissioner of Prisons Makgothi Thobakgale, Zuma reported to the Estcourt Correctional Facility in his home province of KwaZulu-Natal on Friday morning. He was briefly “admitted” into the system before being released just an hour later.

The decision to spare Zuma from returning to prison has generated mixed reactions across the country. AfriForum, a lobby group, has accused the prisons department of aiding Zuma in evading justice. The Democratic Alliance, South Africa’s main opposition party, has expressed its intention to legally challenge the remission granted to the former president. In contrast, the ruling African National Congress (ANC) in KwaZulu-Natal has endorsed the decision, stating that it’s in the nation’s best interest.

The broader public reaction has been varied as well. Some citizens argue that the government should prioritize pressing issues such as power outages, high crime rates, poverty, and youth unemployment. Others insist that Zuma should return to jail to complete his sentence. Zuma’s imprisonment in 2021 had triggered widespread protests and riots that resulted in over 350 deaths. He was initially sentenced for refusing to testify before a panel investigating corruption and cronyism during his presidency.

Zuma’s release on medical parole just two months into his sentence was ruled illegal by an appeals court in November. Last month, the constitutional court rejected an attempt to overturn this decision, solidifying the requirement for Zuma to return to prison to serve the remainder of his term.

Guti Laid To Rest

THE late national hero and founder of the ZAOGA Forward in Faith Ministries, Archbishop Ezekiel Guti has been buried in Bindura on a mountain where the first ZAOGA church was built in 1960.

The burial place, popularly known as the Prayer Mountain, also houses a cathedral and a huge auditorium known as the Healing Centre.

The first port of call for the body of the late national hero was the Zimbabwe Ezekiel Guti University where a brief address to staff and students was held.

From there, the body was taken to the Healing Centre in Bindura where several speakers from government officials to church leaders based locally and abroad paid tribute to a humble servant of God.

Apostle Eunor Guti encouraged the church to remain united and emulate the life of Baba Guti.

After the speeches, it was time for Archbishop Guti to be taken to his final resting place, a mausoleum built at the site of the old church.

He was interred with full military honours befitting his national hero status.

Born at Ngaone in Chipinge in 1923, Archbishop Ezekiel Guti was called into Ministry at the age of 15, going on to preach the word of God when he turned 25.

His journey was remarkable as he went on to preach the word of God non-stop for 75 years, planting churches in 163 countries.

In addition, Baba Guti established several schools, Mbuya Dorcas Maternity Hospital, and the Zimbabwe Ezekiel Guti University and published 168 books among his illustrious works.

He died at the age of 100 on the 5th of July this year.

He is survived by his wife Eunor, several children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Charumbira Demoted

Chief Mtshane Khumalo from Matabeleland North has been elected the new President of the Council of Chiefs unopposed.

He takes over from Chief Fortune Charumbira, who now deputises him after being elected unopposed in an election presided over by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission in Harare this Thursday.

The result also confirms Chiefs Khumalo and Charumbira’s automatic election into Senate.

The election of the two office bearers concludes the National Council of Chiefs polls which started on the 3rd of this month when elections were held in the eight non-metropolitan provinces to choose the 36 members of the chiefs’ council.

Chrome mining in Zimbabwe has seen significant growth in recent years, spurred by the country’s vast chromite deposits and the increasing demand for chrome worldwide.

The country holds approximately 12% of the global chromite reserves, making it a valuable player in the chrome mining industry.

Key chromite mining areas in Zimbabwe include the Great Dyke, Shurugwi, Zvishavane, and Mashava.

With the giant integrated iron and steel plant that

is being constructed by Chinese investor, Dinson Iron and Steel Company (Disco) and the world-class iron and steel plant would tap into a resource base that is estimated to last for approximately 100 years and comprises a carbon and steel plant, an iron ore mine, and a ferrochrome plant which will benefit people and Chrome miners around Zimbabwe.

Marry Mubaiwa Protests Over Delayed Trial

Lawyers representing Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga’s estranged wife Marry Mubaiwa yesterday said the courts had taken long to bring their client to trial on money laundering charges and should, therefore, remove her from remand.

Mubaiwa’s lawyer, Beatrice Mtetwa, said it was mind-boggling that the State kept pushing for postponement giving various excuses.

Yesterday, the State said the matter could not be taken to trial as the presiding magistrate Stanford Mambanje was on leave.

The State also said it was still waiting for documents related to the matter from South Africa.

Mtetwa, however, protested saying her frail client was being unfairly treated.

“We submit that if the State is not ready, we apply to have the accused removed from remand,” Mtetwa said.

“The accused has been on remand since December 2019.”

Mtetwa said Mubaiwa was of poor health, hence keeping her on remand denied her access to medical attention outside the country. Her right arm was amputated last year.

“It is a struggle for her to come to court,” Mtetwa said.

“She could not access court 15 because there are no working lifts here. All this can be reduced if the State removes her from remand.

“It’s now three years and seven months and the State is still speaking of investigations still underway.”

The State, led by Pardon Dziva, opposed her application to be removed from remand, saying it needed to do further investigations.

“There is need to carry further investigations given the complexity of this matter. It is in the interest of justice that the State is given more time so that the accused can have fair trial with all documents available,” Dziva said.

Magistrate Marehwanazvo Gofa postponed the matter to today.

Zuma Sent Back To Jail

By-The former President of South Jacob Zuma has been sent back to prison morning and released on remission after the courts had ruled that his release on parol was illegal.
News24 reports that Zuma returned to prison on Friday morning, but only briefly.
Department of Correctional Services acting national commissioner Makgothi Thobakgale said during a briefing that a decision was taken that Zuma must return to the Estcourt Correctional Centre in KwaZulu-Natal.
He had been released from the facility in September 2021 on medical parole.
According to Thobakgole, Zuma arrived at the prison at 06:00 on Friday, where he was processed.
Correctional Services Minister Ronald Lamola later announced that the former statesman had benefitted from a special remission of prison sentences for non-violent offenders, approved by President Cyril Ramaphosa.
Lamola said the decision to have a special remission was to address overcrowding in prison, not to let the former president off the hook.
This meant Zuma spent less than two hours in prison before he was released. As a result of the remission, he will not be on the parole system.

Zuma’s incarceration had its genesis in his defiance of a Constitutional Court order to appear and testify before the State Capture Commission.
The same court sentenced him to 15 months imprisonment.
Zuma was arrested in July 2021 and only served two months of his sentence before the then-national commissioner of correctional services Arthur Fraser granted him medical parole.

We Dont Allow Night Rallies, Says Police

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has warned political parties against holding rallies or door-to-door campaigns at night, saying such conduct puts citizens’ lives in danger.

With only two weeks left before the August 23 harmonised elections, some politicians are stretching to reach every corner of the country, at times having two or three rallies in one day forcing them to convene in the dark.

Addressing journalists attending an elections reporting workshop in Kariba this week, ZRP national spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, said political leaders must not be selfish but prioritise safety and security of their supporters by desisting from holding activities at night.

He said rallies and door-to-door campaigns at night were illegal.

“Definitely we don’t allow night rallies and door-to-door campaigns which are a real security threat for the country,” said Nyathi.

The police spokesperson appealed to the media to play its role in maintenance of peace.

“As the election fever grips the country, we continue to urge the media not to lose focus and intensify its informative and coverage role to ensure a conducive environment before, during and after the elections on 23 August 2023.

“However, the media must ensure that its coverage of the election processes and security environment remain objective, balanced and put the security of the public and country in general into consideration,” said Nyathi.

From January 1 to July 31 this year, ZRP received a total of 2 663 notifications on holding of rallies, public meetings and related matters from across the political divide, he said.

Nyathi urged candidates to first seek permission from building owners to paste posters on walls in terms of chapter 2:13 of the Electoral Act.

Meanwhile, Dr Nannete Silukhuni, director of strategic planning, monitoring and evaluation in Ministry of Information said at the heart of every election, the rights of voters to make informed decisions, rights of candidates to express their promises and the rights of journalists to gather and dissemination remain fundamental.

She highlighted government had put appropriate legislative frameworks to curb electoral malpractices.

The success of polls is hinged on how the media covers them while journalists should ensure fair, balanced and factual news coverage.

Political parties must package information on their policies for broadcast by mass media and not expect newsrooms or journalists to do the bidding for them, Silukhuni added.

She appealed to scribes to avoid publishing unverified information, unofficial election results, and not propagate inflammatory or hate speech.

Nkayi Police Officer In Hot Soup For Cheering Chamisa

A Nkayi based ZRP Constable identified as H Masimbe has been arrested after he was seen attending Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) President Nelson Chamisa’s Nesigwe rally and excitedly chanting party slogans from within the crowd.

This happened on Wednesday.

According to a police summary of his attendance and subsequent arrest, Masimbe lied to colleagues who saw him at Nesigwe Growth Point by indicating that he had come for certain documents yet secretly wearing a yellow t-shirt, under a blue jacket.

Masimbe proceeded to remove the jacket upon joining multitudes attending Chamisa’s rally, against ZRP’s Code of Conduct and Police Act.

He was seen chanting the popular CCC slogan Ngaapinde Hake Mukomana, with the police memo seen by NewZimbabwe. com indicating he cheered Chamisa on by shouting ‘Icho icho uyo mukomana apinda.’

“Whilst at the rally the defaulter removed the jacket covering his yellow t-shirt and was seen following the convoy of Chamisa chanting ‘Icho icho uyo mukomana apinda’ literally meaning ‘that one, that one, the young man has arrived’ pointing two fore-fingers upwards, a symbol associated with CCC’s slogan.

“He went on chanting ‘Ngaapinde Mukomana ngaapinde,’ literally meaning, ‘Should enter, young man should enter.’

“The defaulter was also observed clapping hands acknowledging the speech being delivered by Chamisa and by so doing contravened the said Act,” reads the police report.

Chamisa has maintained that he enjoys a massive following from State Security agencies, most of which the CCC leader claims are abused in barring some of his activities.

Masimbe’s conduct comes barely a month after another rural area-based officer, an Assistant Inspector from Chirumanzu unexpectedly stood up to Zanu-PF legislator Barbra Rwodzi’s bullying.

He has since been transferred to an outpost in Shurugwi where he was yet to report.

Unveiling the Unwavering: The True Character of Lovemore Madhuku Shatters Misconceptions

By Edmore Masango| If consistency were personified, it would undoubtedly take the form of Lovemore Madhuku. While perceptions of him may vary among the people of Zimbabwe, my perspective unveils an unwavering individual who steadfastly upholds his convictions, regardless of their popularity.

Madhuku’s journey, which commenced around 1997, advocating for a new constitution and persists to this day, is a testament to his resolute character. Such commitment stands in stark contrast to the fickleness often associated with politics.

I had the privilege of listening to his campaign messages across Goromonzi, Epworth, Norton, and most recently, Mutasa. Throughout these addresses, Madhuku consistently echoes a singular message: his party staunchly contends that Zimbabwe’s current constitution, attributed to the ruling class, is fundamentally flawed.

Moreover, he asserts that his party genuinely champions the cause of the less privileged. In a striking departure from his opposition, Madhuku contends that, aside from Zanu PF candidate Emmerson Mnangagwa, no other contender—no matter their popularity have never governed, hence no better than him.

Initially confounded by Madhuku’s purported dual nature—a supposed greedy politician fixated on monetary gains juxtaposed with his message consistency—I felt compelled to embark on an exploration of the man behind the persona.

My research yielded a revelation: a deluge of misconceptions swirl around this enigmatic figure named Madhuku. Curiously, those in close proximity to him have failed to rectify or recalibrate these narratives.

It is imperative that Zimbabweans are apprised of correct information about Madhuku in order to form an informed opinion. Zimbabweans, in particular, deserve an unclouded perspective of the true Madhuku before lambasting and denouncing him on social media.

But who truly is Lovemore Madhuku?

According to his own work, “An Introduction to Zimbabwe Law,” Lovemore Madhuku was born in 1966 in Chipinge. He pursued his legal studies at the University of Zimbabwe, Oxford University, and the University of Cambridge. Additional sources have illuminated his humble beginnings, recounting how he emerged from an economically disadvantaged family. Remarkably, Madhuku has played a pivotal role in uplifting his family (brothers and sisters from his father’s polygamous marriage), financing their education from primary school through to tertiary institutions. Notably, this generosity extends beyond his immediate family, as he has generously sponsored the education of numerous individuals in Chipinge, irrespective of their kinship.

Contrary to prevailing assumptions about his materialistic pursuits, it emerges that Madhuku leads a modest lifestyle, possessing only one residential property. Furthermore, he has no business interests besides his Madhuku Lawyers which is barely five years old. This reliable source confided in me that he was forced to start a law firm by his peers, who felt he could contribute more effectively to the mentorship of burgeoning legal practitioners beyond the confines of the classroom.

Returning to the theme of consistency, my exploration has crystallized a conviction: Madhuku is a stalwart advocate of constitutionalism, firm in his belief that a people-driven process is the only viable course. His unequivocal opposition to the Copac constitution, manifested in his resistance against Zanu PF, MDC-T, and MDC led by Professor Welshman Ncube, underscores his principled stance—a stance that diametrically opposes the widely held misconception that he is a flip-flopper.

His transformation of NCA, a civil society entity, into a political force to propel the pursuit of a people-driven constitution serves as a compelling testament to his authenticity on this issue. It is incumbent upon Zimbabweans to introspect, to peel away the layers of misinformation, and to gain a true understanding of Madhuku’s character.

In summation, my fervent hope and aspiration lie in the belief that those intimately connected with Madhuku will ardently endeavor to dispel the myriad misconceptions enshrouding him.

This collective endeavor may serve to rectify skewed perceptions and facilitate a more accurate assessment of his character.

Ezekiel Guti’s Corpse ‘Chased Out Of Harare’ By Journalists | RBZ MONEY DISGRACE

The family’s avoidance of thanking journalists who exposed their earlier intentions of a ZANU PF heroes acre burial has ignited speculations of corruption and collusion with the ruling party.

Critics argue that the family’s actions confirm revelations that Guti was involved in eroding Zimbabwean institutions and disregarding the rights of all citizens, regardless of their status. Throughout his lifetime, Guti failed to speak out against the oppression and injustice faced by the nation, particularly under the leadership of Emmerson Mnangagwa and the ZANU PF party.

This move undermines the claims made by Guti’s church, Zimbabwe Assemblies of God Africa (ZAOGA Forward in Faith), that he transformed Zimbabwe. The decision to bury him in a location where he started his spiritual journey might be seen as an attempt to portray him as a humble figure, but it doesn’t erase the lack of action he took to address the nation’s struggles during his lifetime.

The state media’s article highlighting Guti’s accomplishments and his burial location underlines the complexities of his legacy. While he is credited with establishing a mountain of miracles and a Pentecostal university, his failure to use his influence to advocate for positive change in the country is a stain on his record. The fact that his burial was accompanied by a 21-gun salute by the military raises further questions about his alignment with the ruling party.

As Zimbabweans bid farewell to Guti, his legacy remains a subject of controversy. The decision to bury him away from Harare, combined with his history of inaction in the face of social and political issues, has cast a shadow over his contributions and his church’s claims of transformation. The public’s response to his passing reflects the complex and multifaceted nature of his impact on Zimbabwe’s history.

RELEASE OF JUNE 2023 ORDINARY AND ADVANCED LEVEL EXAMINATION RESULTS

Introduction
The Zimbabwe School Examinations Council Board and Management would like to advise the nation of the release of the June 2023 ZIMSEC Ordinary and Advanced Level examination results.

You will recall that in 2021 and 2022 we suspended the June Examinations because of the COVID19 pandemic. The aim was to put more focus and concentration on the November examinations. We are delighted to have resumed the June examinations to serve our candidates who may want to proceed for further education.

The June examination results are accessible from today, 9 August 2023 from 1500hrs. The results may be accessed through the ZIMSEC website www.zimsec.co.zw.

Candidates are advised to click on their respective region where they will be redirected to the portal on which they can access their results. Please take note that this portal will be open for 5 days only.

Heads of Examination Centres will be able to collect the results for their respective schools/ centres from our Regional Offices on Thursday, 10 August 2023.

Ordinary Level Results
Candidate entry
A total number of 21 683 candidates registered and sat for a range of subjects from one to eight compared to 54 645 candidates in June 2020. There were 14 special needs candidates in June 2023. The total candidature decreased by 28 962, a percentage decrease of 53.00%.

In the analysis, two distinct categories of candidates are referred to, that is, school candidates and private candidates. Private candidates are those who receive tuition through the non-formal route whilst School candidates are students who attend classes and/or are tutored by a teacher until the sitting of national examinations.

In the June 2023 Ordinary level examinations, the number of school candidates was 1 746 and the number of private candidates was 19 937.

The number of all candidates who sat for five or more subjects was 365 which is 1.68% of the total candidature and the remainder, sat for four or less. In June 2020, the number of all candidates who sat for five or more subjects was 3 501 which was 6.40% of the total candidature.

There was a significant decrease in candidature for the June 2023 examination compared to June 2020.

This is probably because of the fact that, the 2020 June examination did not have the provision of Continuous Assessment Learning Activities (CALA) while the June 2023 demanded that candidates who wanted to sit for the examination could only do so if they had a banked CALA mark. This meant that the current school candidates who were not repeaters could not register for the examination.

Candidate Performance
A total of 365 candidates registered for 5 or more subjects of which 99 candidates passed 5 or more subjects with grade C or better in June 2023.

This translated to a national pass rate of 27.12%. In comparison in the June 2020 session, 3 501 candidates wrote 5 or more subjects and 627 of these passed 5 or more subjects with grade C or better resulting in a national pass rate of 17.919%.

The pass rate for School Candidates in the June 2023 session was 69.84% while Private Candidates recorded a pass rate of 4.6%.

Advanced Level Results
The total number of candidates who sat for the June 2023 Advanced level examination was 256. Of these, 112 wrote two or more subjects and 85 obtained Grade E or better in two or more subjects. This translated to 75.89% pass rate.

In June 2020, a total number of 5 058 candidates sat for the June examinations. Of those 2 638 wrote two or more subjects and 1 769 obtained Grade E or better translating to a pass rate of 67.06%.

The total number of School Candidates in the June 2023 session was 100.

Of these, 33 wrote two or more subjects and 27 obtained Grade E or better in two or more subjects, yielding 81.81% pass rate. The total number of private candidates was 156.

Of these, 79 wrote two or more subjects and 58 obtained a Grade E or better in two or more subjects, which also translates into a percentage pass rate of 73.41%.

This translated to a national pass rate of 27.12%. In comparison in the June 2020 session, 3 501 candidates wrote 5 or more subjects and 627 of these passed 5 or more subjects with grade C or better resulting in a national pass rate of 17.919%.

The pass rate for School Candidates in the June 2023 session was 69.84% while Private Candidates recorded a pass rate of 4.6%.

Advanced Level Results
The total number of candidates who sat for the June 2023 Advanced level examination was 256. Of these, 112 wrote two or more subjects and 85 obtained Grade E or better in two or more subjects. This translated to 75.89% pass rate.

In June 2020, a total number of 5 058 candidates sat for the June examinations. Of those 2 638 wrote two or more subjects and 1 769 obtained Grade E or better translating to a pass rate of 67.06%.

The total number of School Candidates in the June 2023 session was 100.

Of these, 33 wrote two or more subjects and 27 obtained Grade E or better in two or more subjects, yielding 81.81% pass rate. The total number of private candidates was 156.

Of these, 79 wrote two or more subjects and 58 obtained a Grade E or better in two or more subjects, which also translates into a percentage pass rate of 73.41%.

Witchcraft Threats Emerge In Love Triangle

In a startling development, a suspected love triangle has escalated into a sinister conflict, with a woman in Tsholotsho, Matabeleland North province, living in fear after her husband’s alleged lover reportedly threatened to use witchcraft against her. Awakhiwe Ncube (22), currently residing in South Africa, claims to have married Desmond Ncube from Bambadzi area, Bulilima District, Plumtree in March of the previous year. However, Siduduzile Mankatha has emerged, asserting her relationship with the same man and resorting to supernatural threats.

Trouble reportedly began in December when the couple experienced a rift, leading Desmond to reconnect with his alleged ex-lover, Mankatha. Awakhiwe attempted to reason with Mankatha to leave her husband, but Mankatha insisted that Desmond was also her spouse. Mankatha escalated the conflict by sending threatening messages and even labeling Awakhiwe a “witch” on various social media platforms.

Awakhiwe expressed her distress, recounting Mankatha’s threats and the impact on her pregnancy. She alleged that Mankatha’s actions contributed to her miscarriage. Awakhiwe’s peace has been shattered, and her reputation is being tarnished online.

Mankatha declined to comment and redirected all inquiries to Desmond, who revealed that he ended his relationship with Awakhiwe due to her alleged infidelity. He clarified that they were cohabiting, not married, and defended his decision to rekindle his relationship with Mankatha. Desmond even denied having a child with Awakhiwe.

Mnangagwa Pays Tribute To Tomana

Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to the Democratic Republic of Congo, Johannes Tomana who died on Sunday, has been declared a national hero.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa announced the decision at the Tomana residence in Glen Lorne, Harare where he had gone to console the family this Wednesday.

President Mnangagwa was accompanied by Vice President General (Retired) Dr Constantino Chiwenga, ZANU PF Second Secretary Cde Kembo Mohadi, Defence and War Veterans Affairs Minister Honourable Oppah Muchinguri – Kashiri, Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister Ambassador Fredrick Shava and other senior government and ZANU PF officials.

The President, who worked with the late Tomana when he was Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Minister, described the late diplomat as one of the finest legal practitioners to emerge from Zimbabwe.

“On Sunday I woke up around 7.30 that’s when I received a phone call from Vice President Chiwenga telling me that Tomana has died. I worked well and for a long time with Tomana and his wife since his days in the Attorney General’s office. He is the one who actually implemented the splitting of the two offices, the Attorney General and the Prosecutor’s office. After he was relieved from office, VP Chiwenga approached me and that’s when we agreed to appoint him as the DRC ambassador. He worked very well and would constantly brief me on what was happening in the DRC. I met him at church in Marange and that was the last time I saw him. We sat down as a party, and we agreed to accord him national hero status so that he will be interred at the National Heroes Acre,” said President Mnangagwa.

Born on the 9th of September in 1967, Ambassador Tomana was a lawyer by profession and distinguished himself in private practice.

Ambassador Tomana was appointed Attorney General in 2008 during the inclusive government era where he performed the dual role of leading the prosecution department and government advisory role.

The two were later split under the new Constitution that came into effect in 2013 when he became the country’s first Prosecutor General.

Ambassador Tomana was appointed into diplomatic service in September 2020 when he assumed the post of Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to the Democratic Republic of Congo, a position he held until the time of his death.

Businessman Accused of Bullying by Ex-Wife During Trial

Bulawayo — In a dramatic turn of events, Moosa Hassen Esat, a well-known businessman in Bulawayo, has been accused of being a “bully” by his ex-wife, Ishmael Gaibee. The allegations came to light during the trial at the Bulawayo magistrate court, where Esat is facing charges of contempt of court.

The allegations against Esat stem from an incident on 29 June of this year. According to court documents, Esat had taken their child from Gaibee’s custody to celebrate the annual festival of Eid Mubarak at his home in the North End suburb. However, he allegedly failed to return the child on the same day, prompting Gaibee to contact him. Esat reportedly promised to return the child but failed to do so, leading Gaibee to involve the police.

The court papers suggest that Esat eventually returned the child the following day, which was a direct violation of a court order. This action resulted in his arrest and subsequent appearance before Bulawayo magistrate Gamuchirai Gore, where he pleaded not guilty to the charges.

In his defense, Esat, represented by his lawyer Mutsa Nyamutowa, claimed that he attempted to return the child on the day of the incident but encountered resistance from Gaibee. He argued that the court order lacked specific instructions regarding the timing of custody exchanges on Eid Mubarak day.

Esat detailed his attempts to hand over the child after celebrating Eid Mubarak. He stated that after dinner, he took the child back to Gaibee’s residence and attempted to contact her through hooting and ringing the bell. With no response, he reportedly returned to his home with the child. Esat then sought assistance from the police, who accompanied him to Gaibee’s house but were unable to facilitate the exchange.

According to Esat, the situation was only resolved the following day with police intervention. Gaibee, on the other hand, used her time during cross-examination to characterize her relationship with Esat as tumultuous. She accused him of flouting court orders and described him as a bully who had previously harassed her.

The trial has captivated local attention due to the prominence of the individuals involved and the accusations of bullying and misconduct. As proceedings continue, the court will ultimately decide the outcome of the charges against Moosa Hassen Esat.- state media

The ruling party, ZANU-PF, has a history of manipulating electoral processes, and doubts linger about the fairness of this impending election. Moreover, the opposition stands divided into two prominent factions: the MDC-T, led by Douglas Mwonzora, and the CCC, led by Nelson Chamisa.

Amid this division, the MDC-T has opted to boycott the election, citing widespread irregularities and intimidation. In contrast, the CCC has chosen to participate. Top Economist Endorses CCC Manifesto

I carefully read the CCC manifesto launched by @nelsonchamisa yesterday.

This manifesto addresses the root causes affecting our economy which I empathetically raised over the years with no takers!

I will not attempt to summarise the manifesto but will share major highlights centred on governance & the economy.

The challenges affecting Zimbabwe are both economic & political/governance.

On the political & governance front, the CCC promises to establish office of the opposition leader in Parliament who will be accorded official recognition & official invitations to all national programmes & events. This is a welcome move as it will take away the toxicity of politics which has become a permanent feature in our country. In addition, the CCC commits to guarantee human rights, constitutionalism, respect of property rights, tolerance and freedom of expression which are key in building impetus for development.

Furthermore, CCC promises to have Parliamentary Committees of Budgets, Public Accounts & Foreign Affairs chaired by opposition with a view to foster oversight, scrutiny & accountability. This is sweet music in my ears. With this, we will be assured that the culture of acquiring debt by RBZ/MOF without the scrutiny of Parliament & appropriation of budget without the approval of Parliament will be history.

Moreover, the CCC seeks to build national consensus on all developmental matters through the establishment of the Consultative Transformation Council (CTC) made up of Government, business, civil society, academic and labour. The CTC will actualize the social contract and stand as a supreme transformational institution in Zimbabwe where all national policies and legislations are scrutinised and debated. This an important proposition as it will help in building consensus and shared vision on policies which ease policy implementation.

In line with this, the CCC promises zero tolerance on corruption. It is envisaging to build strong institutions with a view to stop corruption. This is key as the country is losing US$1.8 billion annually due to illicit financial flows and an additional US$1 billion locally due to corruption. These funds should be easily directed towards production.

On the economic front, our number 1 challenge is DROUGHT OF PRODUCTION. The CCC promises to guarantee economic stability as a priori requirement for production by adopting dollarisation & scrapping ZWL & then build the condition for the introduction of ZWL at a later stage. This is fundamentally correct because the dual currency on its on is a fatal error because you can’t give rational economic agents to the opportunity choose between 2 currencies and expect them to choose ZWL – it is like asking me to choose between chicken road runner & dried vegetables (musoni) during my time in CHIMANIMANI.

Other measures aimed at fostering stability include guaranteeing independence of RBZ, fiscal reforms and debt resolution.

In addition, the CCC promises to give title deeds to communal and resettled farmers so as to unlock capital which is key in raising agricultural production. This is a a game changer because at the moment our land is dead capital. In addition, the promise to disband command agriculture & liberalise the agricultural sector is a sound policy proposition. Since 2000, we are food insecure (but not tobacco insecure) because of command economics. In the tobacco sector, we are 4 in the world in terms of exports because the sector is liberalised.

To spice it, the CCC coined the modernisation agenda for the transformation and urbanisation of rural areas (MATURA) which is key in fostering rural development & a BIG business in agriculture since 8 provinces are rural.

Through various funding instruments which are largely centred on innovative finance, the CCC promises to revamp the country’s infrastructures which is priori requirement for production.

Jompano Threatens DeMbare With Legal Action

Sacked Dynamos coach Herbert ‘Jompano’ has challenged his dismissal by the club, saying there was no mutual agreement reached and he is contractually still in charge of the Glamour Boys.

Maruwa was shown the exit door yesterday, with Dynamos revealing that a mutual agreement had been reached with the former Black Rhinos, for the latter to to step down.

But Maruwa, in a letter seen by Soccer24, demanded the retraction of the statement issued by DeMbare, arguing that there is no truth to it.

Maruwa gave Dynamos 48 hours to retract the statement, failure to which the coach will take legal action against the club.

“By way of this letter, please retract your “Mutual Termination of Contract of Employment statement you published to various media houses and other online forums dated 8 and 9th August, 2023,” reads the letter.

“The public must know that there is no grain of truth in that statement. The inconsistences and the contents thereto, are far from the truth. Let this be on record, there is no mutual agreement reached between us at this point. Whilst I don’t want interfere with the club’s intention to disengage with me, the respect of our contractual obligation should continue to subsist to the end. It is not in dispute that, as it stands, I am the Head Coach of the club and my contract of employment is still active until November 30, 2023.

“Demand is hereby made pursuant to the spirit of respect and fairness, that you immediately publish correction of the of the said information in substantially as conspicuous as was the above-mentioned statements and in that said correction, demand an apology.

“In the event that the retraction is not made timely or within 48 hours, legal action will be commenced without due notice to you and the club. For the record, let it be known to the general public and the football loving family that negotiations to the termination is still in progress and my representatives are handling the matter on my behalf.”- Soccer24 News

Breastfeeding is one of the most effective ways to ensure child health and survival. However, contrary to WHO recommendations, fewer than half of infants under 6 months old are exclusively breastfed.

Breastmilk is the ideal food for infants. It is safe, clean and contains antibodies which help protect against many common childhood illnesses. Breastmilk provides all the energy and nutrients that the infant needs for the first months of life, and it continues to provide up to half or more of a child’s nutritional needs during the second half of the first year, and up to one third during the second year of life.

Breastfed children perform better on intelligence tests, are less likely to be overweight or obese and less prone to diabetes later in life. Women who breastfeed also have a reduced risk of breast and ovarian cancers.

Inappropriate marketing of breast-milk substitutes continues to undermine efforts to improve breastfeeding rates and duration worldwide.

Eat n Lick To Lose Property Over US$65k Debt

By A Correspondent| Fast food outlet Eat n’ Lick will lose property after failing to settle a US$65 000 debt for potatoes supplied a local firm Zatex Investments.

Zatex Investments through their lawyer Edwin Hamunakwadi of Hamunakwadi and Nyandoro Law Chamber approached the High Court after the failure by the food outlet to settle the bill as they had agreed.

On July 24, High Court Judge Justice Manzunzu ordered that Eat n Lick parent company Golden Crust Private Limited pay US$65 000 owed to Zatex Investments.

Eat n Lick only managed to pay US$20 000 leaving a debt of US$45 000 prompting Zatex to approach the courts again.

This resulted in them obtaining a writ of execution against Eat n Lick property with the Sheriff being ordered to attach its property.

Mudzuri Mocks Mwonzora For “Accomplishing Mission To Destroy MDC”

By A Correspondent| Former MDC vice President Elias Mudzuri has accused Douglas Mwonzora of accomplishing his mission to destroy the party left behind by late founding leader Morgan Tsvangirai.

Posting on Twitter, Mudzuri said Mwonzora should be stopped before he disposes party property.

“Mwonzora has accomplished his mission to destroy MDC. Let’s not allow him to dispose of the party properties. We must stand up to him and stop his shenanigans,” said Mudzuri.

He urged MDC members to work hard and rebuild the party in preparation for 2028 elections.

“MDC cadres must now unite to vigorously pursue the restoration agenda so that we win 2028 elections. Restoration begins by rebuilding structures from branch up to the national leaders chosen by a genuine Congress,” added Mudzuri.

“All MDC members who were expelled or victimised in any way must immediately return to their party, show Mwonzora the middle finger and hound him out of Harvest House,” further said Mudzuri.

“Chidembo kana choda kuramba mukadzi, chinoshereketa!” (When the skunk wants to divorce its wife, it will try anything and everything!) so goes the adage.

When Douglas Mwonzora realised that the fickle and shilly-shally MDC wildebeest herd had deserted him to go with Nelson Chamisa, following High Court ruling that the later’s 2018 seizure of power was unconstitutional; he knew his political career was over. Finished!

During the by-elections earlier on this year (he tried to have these cancelled but failed) he could not even attract more than a handful to his rallies. From there on, Mwonzora’s political mission was how to wiggle out of an election just as the skunk mission was how to divorce its wife.

The classic fable tell of how the skunk complain day and night about the many things his wife did to anyone who cared to listen. Indeed, even when there was no one in sight to hear him, he would continue mumbling. Even the fleas on his back would deep in the fur just to escape the incessant whingeing.

“Zhe chaz chairz growing in cher earz!” complained the skunk, when the village council agreed to hear his divorce case.

“What chairz are you wittering about?” asked the village head.

“He means, she has hairs growing in her ears.”

“It iz pozzively revolting!” cut in the skunk!

“Case dismissed!” ruled the village head.

The skunk was whingeing on how to divorce his wife, Mwonzora has been whingeing on how he to wriggle out of these elections and thus avoid a total electoral whitewash.

“We are not going to be part of this baptism, this blessing of this sham. This election is a farce,” declared Mwonzora as he announced his withdrawal from the 2023 Presidential rat race.

One of the reasons he gave for withdrawing is that ZEC had blocked 87 of his potential parliamentary candidates paying their nomination fees and yet allowed CCC candidates to do so.

Rubbish Mwonzora and his MDC and including his former colleagues now in CCC have all participated in 2013 and 2018 elections knowing fully well that they are flawed and illegal.

In the 2013 elections, SADC leaders literally begged Morgan Tsvangirai and his MDC colleagues; of which Mwonzora, Chamisa, Tendai Biti, David Coltart and many others were senior leaders; not to participate without first implementing the democratic reforms to ensure the elections were free, fair and credible. MDC leaders ignored the advice and Coltart explained why.

“The (2013) electoral process was so flawed, so illegal, that the only logical step was to withdraw, which would compel SADC to hold Zanu PF to account,” confessed David Coltart in his Book, The Struggle Continues 50 years of Tyranny in Zimbabwe.

“But such was the distrust between the MDC-T and MDC-N that neither could withdraw for fear that the other would remain in the elections, winning seats and giving the process credibility,”

In short, the opposition have participated in these flawed and illegal elections to give Zanu PF legitimacy out of greed. Mwonzora has lost the support of the MDC wildebeest herd and with it the chance of winning an gravy train seats. And suddenly he remembers that the process is “so flawed, so illegal, that the only logical step was to withdraw”. How convenient!

The only take home from Mwonzora’s resignation speech is the admission that the 3 million Euros fund blocked by Zanu PF recently was meant to training and finance the deployment polling station election agents. All the three political parties with MPs in the outgoing parliament i.e. Zanu PF, MDC and CCC were going to benefit.

“In 2018 MDC A failed to field election agents at some 2 000 or so polling stations!” Mwonzora revealed.

At the time Chamisa claimed that MDC A, of which he was the presidential candidate, had ALL the V11 forms, summary of the vote count, from each and every one of the over 11 000 polling stations. However the affidavit he submitted to Constitutional Court, challenging of the 2018 presidential elections results, showed that he did not have ALL the V11 forms to account for all the 2.6 million votes he claimed to have garnered in that election.

He stoically refused to say how many V11 forms were missing and why.

It was only not a few weeks ago that Chamisa finally revealed that MDC A had failed to field election gents at 544 polling stations. This is a far cry from the “2 000 or so” Mwonzora is telling us!

Chamisa must come clean on just how many polling stations did NOT have MDC A election agents in the 2018 elections. And, more significantly, with just 14 days to go to these 2023 elections, he reveal whether CCC has election agents at ALL the over 12 000 polling stations to be used in these elections.

It is an outage for CCC to keep wittering about “guarding the vote” only for the nation to then learn the party did not even have the election agent to stop Zanu PF tampering with the V11 forms!

So why is CCC claiming the party has strategies to win rigged elections when it cannot do something as basic as having an election agent at each polling station.

The people of Zimbabwe have risked all; livelihoods, property, life and limb from the vengeful wrath of Zanu PF; to elect MDC leaders into power on the understanding they would implement the democratic changes to stop Zanu PF rigging elections. After 23 years, 5 of which in the GNU, MDC now rebranded CCC, have failed to implement even one token reform. Not one!

Fortunately for the MDC/CCC leaders, the party’s supporters, the wildebeest herd, have no clue what the reforms are much less how they were to be implemented. Even now with the benefit of hindsight of the GNU events, they still have no clue. And so the MDC/CCC have gotten away with the blatant betrayal of first failing to implement reforms and then participating in flawed elections to give Zanu PF legitimacy.

As far as the MDC wildebeest herd is concerned Mwonzora is to blame for all the opposition parties’ failures and blunders. Mwonzora is a “Zanu PF project!” many of them will say. Mwonzora has become the fall guy.

Still, should the nation know, the truth will always come out sooner or later, that Chamisa and company dragged the nation into yet another flawed elections so flawed there was no verified voters’ roll, 3 million in the diaspora were denied the vote, rural voters were frogmarched to vote for Zanu PF, etc., etc. And above all, Chamisa and company once again lied that they were “guarding the vote” when did not have the requisite election agent at many of the polling stations! Chamisa et al will find that even the naive and gullible MDC wildebeest herd will not be so forgiving this time.

My prediction is that Zanu PF is blatantly rigging these 2023 elections, Chamisa and company know this and are participating to give Zanu PF legitimacy for a few gravy train seats reward. Many Zimbabweans will finally wake up to this political reality. Chamisa and many of his CCC leaders will know their political careers are over and either quietly walk into the political sun set or, like Mwonzora, they will be whingeing for an excuse to do so!

Chamisa Makes A Promise On Zim Judiciary

OPPOSITION Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa says he will free all political prisoners and the Judiciary from State capture, as part of his key deliverables in 100 days once elected into office.

He says he will also reform the police, army and Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO).

The CCC leader will tussle it out with Zanu-PF candidate, President Emmerson Mnangagwa and eight other candidates for the top post in Zimbabwe.

Chamisa announced his ambitious plan on Tuesday in Bulawayo when he was unveiling his election manifesto titled A New Great Zimbabwe for Everyone.

The 100-page blueprint is anchored on five pillars, which include restoration, reconstruction, modernisation, transformation and reconciliation.

Chamisa said Zimbabwe suffered from a crisis of governance, characterised by the weaponisation of the law against critics, breakdown of the rule of law, judicial capture and politicisation of State security institutions.

“The Zimbabwean crisis is essentially a crisis of governance. It is a crisis of leadership. The last 43 years have seen the dangers, failures and weaknesses of parasitic politics reflected in stale and dysfunctional institutions,” Chamisa said as he promised to free political prisoners.

“The current Zimbabwe is evidence of the horridness of corrosive politics, extractive institutions, fear, collapse of the rule of law, corruption, patronage and prebendalism (selfish, greed and reward of cronies).”

CCC member Job Sikhala has been in remand prison since June last year on charges of inciting public violence at the funeral of slain party activist, Moreblessing Ali.

Transform Zimbabwe leader Jacob Ngarivhume is serving a four-year jail term on a charge of inciting public violence in July 2020. Several other CCC members and human rights defenders also face various charges amid concerns over the muzzling of dissent through harsh legislation.

Chamisa said Zimbabwe would not progress with a captured Judiciary.

“The citizens’ government undertakes to ensure the independence of the Judiciary and other institutions in line with the Constitution and Sustainable Development Goal 16,” he said.

“This will be done through the following: Ensuring the full independence of the Judiciary; making adequate budgetary allocations to the Judiciary; ensuring that all judicial appointments are based on merit and competency, as well as public testimonials in line with public interviews conducted by the Judicial Service Commission.”

The Judiciary has in the past said it is independent and does not take instructions from the Executive.

According to Chamisa, the country’s security services are compromised and need urgent reform.

“The citizens’ government will transform and maintain a formidable citizens security and safety framework through the Zimbabwe National Army, Air Force of Zimbabwe, Central Intelligence Organisation and Police Service,” he said.

“We shall build an army that supports the establishment of democratic institutions in Zimbabwe, where citizens live in happiness, peace and safety as they freely participate in the progressive governance of Zimbabwe.”

He also said his government would clip the powers of the dreaded spy agency, CIO, by ensuring that it is governed by an Act of Parliament defining and limiting its powers. “Re-orientation of the services shall be part of the transformation agenda. Expanding the scope of the intelligence services to assist in economic and financial crimes including money laundering and illicit deals.”

Chamisa also said his government would remove the local currency that President Emmerson Mnangagwa reintroduced in 2019 after a decade of dollarisation.

FULL TEXT: Linda Masarira Refuses To Endorse Nelson Chamisa

I have been receiving pressure to endorse @nelsonchamisa for presidency in the forthcoming elections. Sadly, my conscience will never allow me to do that. Beyond me and my erstwhile Cde. brother being cooking oil and water in terms of politics, his religious fanaticism is a cause of concern for a person who wants to hold the highest office of the land.

I could never in my life time endorse a person who is a 3 in 1 of manipulation professions ie lawyer, pastor and politician. If one failed to build an institution at party level what guarantee is there that he will be able to manage an already existing government institution?

If one failed to ensure constitutionalism within the MDCT and has failed to furnish the world with his current party constitution, what guarantee do we have that he will be able to ensure constitutionalism. He even has a plan to change the people’s constitution to God knows what.

Change/shanduko can never be an ideology. I am one woman who firmly believes in ideology. Having ideological clarity has made me understand our political environment and what needs to be done to save Zimbabwe.

Zimbabwe needs;

  • a unifier, a president who can unify all religions not shun African Traditional religion as demonic.
  • a states man who will serve all Zimbabweans regardless of race, tribe, religion, gender, social status, etc
  • a reformist par excellence who can abolish the current system we abolished from the Smith colonial regime
  • a Pan Afrikanist at heart, who will also partake in the one Africa agenda and stop the plundering and looting of our natural resources
  • a firm believer in strengthening local currency and building a trillion dollar economy

In conclusion, all these attrubutes do not exist in Chamisa. I will not vote for a populist with no direction. These are my thoughts and I am entitled to them.

Chamisa Lays Out His Vision For Zimbabwe

The Nelson Chamisa-led Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) party has just released its extensive election manifesto outlining its vision for transforming Zimbabwe if elected into power.

The 100-page manifesto covers a broad range of issues from economic reforms social services to governance.

It offers valuable insights into CCC’s priorities and policy positions.

The manifesto places heavy emphasis on reviving Zimbabwe’s economy and charting a pathway to a US$100 billion economy within a decade.

However, it is interesting to note that less than 10 African countries currently have US$100 billion economies.

It rightly identifies the economy as the country’s Achilles heel after years of mismanagement.

However, the mechanisms proposed for generating such robust growth rates consistently seem overly optimistic.

While agriculture, mining and infrastructural investment have the potential, the sheer scale and speed of the projected transformation appears unrealistic considering Zimbabwe’s current woes.

A more gradual, incremental approach may be prudent. Infrastructure rehabilitation forms a key pillar of CCC’s economic plans.

The party pledges major investments in rebuilding dilapidated roads, rail, power stations, airports and dams.

This is long overdue given Zimbabwe’s huge infrastructure deficit.

However, funding such an expansive national rebuilding programme hinges on the party’s ability to secure substantial international support and investment post-election.

The debt resolution strategy outlined will be critical.

On governance, CCC promises extensive reforms, including a new Constitution, reduced Cabinet, strengthened Parliament, decentralisation and anti-corruption laws.

While a reduced Cabinet will be a step in the right direction, it might be a difficult ask for a movement that previously had a bloated presidium.

While vital, implementing such sweeping changes even with political will takes time.

CCC may need to sequence reforms, starting with more achievable steps like trimming Cabinet and tasking Parliament with oversight before tackling bigger structural changes.

CCC’s social policy commitments around healthcare, education, housing and social security are morally compelling, but also expensive.

The manifesto does not outline in adequate detail how these will be funded sustainably.

Zimbabwe’s dire economic situation means finances are extremely constrained.

A more incremental expansion aligned with realistic revenue forecasts would be prudent.

One other notable aspect of the manifesto is its heavy emphasis on restoring Zimbabwe to a Christian, God-fearing nation.

While freedom of religion is vital, the centring of Christianity raises concerns about pluralism and diversity.

The manifesto states that: “We will restore Zimbabwe to God in honour, values, faith, worship and praise,” and promises to “rededicate Zimbabwe to God”.

Despite being a Christian, I find the constant reference to Biblical scriptures in the manifesto alienating other religions.

Such rhetoric seems to privilege Christianity above other beliefs.

There is little mention of protecting minority faiths or recognising Zimbabwe’s religious diversity.

This risks alienating non-Christians and undermining religious tolerance.

A truly democratic vision would be more inclusive of all faiths and avoid language that elevates one religion over others.

The manifesto’s Christian-centric tone could worry secular citizens and religious minorities about their place in CCC’s future Zimbabwe.

While expansive in scope, the dense 100-page manifesto does not seem optimally simplified and condensed for easy digestion by the average voter.

The prose is lengthy, detailed and at times overly technical for a document aimed at a mass electorate.

There is opportunity to present core proposals and commitments in more straightforward, easy-to-grasp language and formatting.

For instance, the economic plan could be distilled into three to five key actionable bullet points.

The decentralisation reforms could be summarised in a simple infographic. Pull quotes, charts and graphics could make the manifesto more visually engaging.

A abbreviated citizen-focused version highlighting major takeaways on what CCC will deliver for voters if elected could resonate more broadly with the masses.

Accessibility and clarity are crucial for manifestos to effectively reach and inspire citizens.

CCC may need to find ways to simplify its vision further to maximise impact among the Zimbabwean voters.

In summary, CCC’s manifesto sets out an ambitious reform agenda and provides a broad direction for Zimbabwe’s future.

However, the sheer scale and speed of the planned transformation seems unrealistic considering current challenges.

Careful prioritisation, sequencing of reforms and consensus-building will be essential if CCC wins power.

While aspirational, CCC must balance its bold vision with pragmatism in execution if the dreams outlined are to become reality.

Kasukuwere Refusing To Back Off

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) is cornered by independent presidential election candidate Saviour Kasukuwere over the printing of ballot papers for the important poll.

After Kasukuwere lost in the High Court, a decision which was later confirmed by the Supreme Court, Zec started printing presidential election ballot papers.

The judgement followed a High Court application by Zanu PF activist Lovedale Mangwana to get Kasukuwere disqualified on grounds that he is no longer a registered voter since he has been out of the country for 18 consecutive months.

The courts agreed, effectively removing him from the voters’ roll, a serious violation of his fundamental right to vote ans be voted for.

However, Kasukuwere has not given up after the Supreme Court loss following his appeal.

He has now gone further to the Constitutional Court (ConCourt) to seek leave to appeal, making the case a constitutional matter. Hearing is set down for Tuesday 9:30am.

This means Zec’s ongoing printing of ballots is illegal.
