Should ED Try Out The New HIV Drug?

A new HIV treatment regime that will see a new drug Sunlenca (Lenacapavir) being taken twice in a year by people with multi-drug resistant HIV Type One is now available, but awaiting approval by the Mnangagwa run Government. The drug that is administered through injections once every six months has recently been approved in the United States and has provided relief to HIV positive people with a low tolerance to other ARVs. Asked about the developments and what they mean to Zimbabwe, Director of Aids and Tuberculosis in the Ministry of Health and Child Care, Dr Owen Mugurungi said such interventions were welcome as they were aimed at improving adherence to HIV treatment.

“We welcome such developments as they greatly improve adherence to treatment. You will find out that daily intake of ARVs or any other drugs is associated with defaulting as pill fatigue grows for some people. There are also cases of people missing doses so the development of drugs that are taken a few times will greatly improve adherence,” said Dr Mugurungi.

He said attempts that have been made in the development of medicines have proved that people were more likely to take their ARVs if the number of times they take them was reduced as in the case of Sunlenca which would be injected twice a year. Dr Mugurungi also gave examples of lessons learnt from family planning drugs which are now administered once in three months for some, while others are taken once in three to five years compared to daily intake of pills. He said the development was going to improve the management of HIV and adherence to antiretrovirals in the country which was a positive step in the country’s response to HIV treatment as it would significantly reduce defaulting.

The United States Food and Drug Administration approved the drug recently for people with HIV Type One whose infections cannot be successfully treated with other available treatments due to resistance, intolerance or safety considerations. “Sunlenca’s starting dose is given as oral tablets and subcutaneous injections every six months. Sunlenca is given in combination with other antiretrovirals,” read a statement from the FDA. In November 2022, the Medicines Control Authority of Zimbabwe (MCAZ) through their evaluations and registration department approved the use of a long acting injectable cabotegravir (CAB-LA) as pre-exposure prophylaxis for HIV prevention. They noted that the information that had been submitted to support the approval of the product indicated that it was safe, effective and of good quality, adding that the product will be beneficial to those that will receive it. CAB-LA has been recommended by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and is administered to people with a substantial risk to HIV as part of comprehensive prevention approaches.

WHO also released guidelines of the use of CAB-LA in their countries with Zimbabwe being the first African country taking up the use of the drug which is effective in HIV prevention. The first HIV prevention intervention introduced by WHO was Tenofovir, an oral Antiretroviral recommended in 2015, the Dapivirine vaginal ring in 2021 and CAB-LA being the third intervention introduced at the end on 2022. However, last week, MCAZ warned against the use and sale of Gammora, a drug from abroad as treatment for HIV saying they have not approved its use in Zimbabwe. Gammora was developed by an Israel based biotech company which initially claimed that clinical trials performed had shown that the drug could eliminate 99 percent of HIV within the first four weeks of treatment. “As MCAZ, we have noted the continued advertising and marketing of such products, especially on social media. We urge members of the public to desist from buying such products which have not gone through any clinical trials and therefore their safety and efficacy has not been proven.

Members of the public are encouraged to buy medicines from registered premises and persons. These lists can be found on the online register found on our website,” they said in a statement.- state media

ED Govt Imposes Performance-Based Contracts for CCC Mayors Ahead Of 2023 Elections

The govt says it is disappointed with poor service delivery obtaining in the country’s towns and cities that does not signal a collective agenda steeped towards achieving an upper-middle income economy by 2030. As part of a raft of measures to ensure improved service delivery, that speaks to achievement of the National Development Strategy 1, the Government is going to tie down town clerks and mayors to account for poor service delivery through a stiff performance measurement tool – the performance-based contracts, which has already been implemented in other sectors. The Government noted that basic service delivery has continued to suffer in the country with a number of local authorities failing to provide water, attend to sewer and water pipe bursts, as well as failing to maintain an efficient road network. The councils have also failed to collect garbage, maintain vending order, fix street lighting and cut overgrown shrubs, trees and grass leaving the environs unmanicured and increasing chances of muggings of residents by criminals.

Director of Communications and Advocacy in the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works Mr Gabriel Masvora told Sunday News that the Government was overly unhappy with the situation obtaining in the country’s towns and cities. He said the signing of performance-based contracts would help Government in its supervisory role to action on local authorities.

Some local authorities signed the contracts last year while others said they wanted to study the documents first, but government insists that all local authorities have to sign the contracts. “The Ministry is not happy with how local authorities are performing. To us as the supervising ministry, this has an impact on the town clerks’ contracts. We are expecting more town clerks and mayors to sign performance-based contracts this year that will see their service delivery performance being scrutinised.

Once they sign these performance-based contracts, they will stipulate what they ought to achieve within a particular timeframe and if they do not meet those demands then we will action on their contracts,” said Mr Masvora. The Government introduced performance-based contracts in 2020 where senior administrators in Government starting with permanent secretaries’ performance is expected to be measured against. The signing of the performance contracts which were meant for 2021 marked the start of a new system where those managing the public service were expected to perform to defined standards in line with key reforms in the public sector as the country moves towards an upper-middle-class economy by 2030. Turning to the poor state of roads both in urban and rural council areas, Mr Masvora said the authorities have a mandate to ensure the roads were serviced as there were mechanisms to fund that service. “The Zimbabwe National Road Authority (Zinara) goes direct to councils and gives them funds to rehabilitate roads. “Residents also pay rates which we also expect to contribute towards service delivery. Government has also come in to mitigate adopting some local authority roads through the Emergency Road Rehabilitation Programme (ERRP) as well as through devolution funds,” said Mr Masvora. Meanwhile, the Urban Councils Association of Zimbabwe (UCAZ) president Councillor Abel Matsika acknowledged that roads, particularly in urban areas were in a bad shape. He expressed gratitude over various Government interventions saying they were pleading for increased funding towards road rehabilitation.

“Indeed, the state of roads in most of our towns and cities is bad. Though there has been an improvement since the intervention of the Government through the ERRP, but there is a lot of work to be done. We are indeed engaging the Government itself to increase the money that they are injecting through ERRP. We are also asking the Government to give us leverage of engaging some private players so that we deal with this once and for all,” said Clr Matsika. He said a number of local authorities were struggling to get enough funds as Government had allegedly been delaying to disburse funds for road maintenance and ERRP such that they have been having running battles with contractors in terms of payments.

“In each and every authority there are some contractors who are at work right now regardless of delays in payments. It is very difficult to point out which are the worst affected towns or cities but there is no denying that the roads are littered with potholes,” said Clr Matsika. The Bulawayo City Council last week suspended the health services director, Dr Edwin Sibanda, over poor service delivery amid cries by residents over uncollected garbage in the city centre and residential areas. — @nyeve14

Arts Minister Backtracks On Winky D Attack

Deputy minister of youths, sports and arts Tinoda Machakaire has backtracked from his earlier remarks where he appeared to attack man of the moment Winky D over his lyrics on his new album Eureka Eureka saying a video that widely circulated was not shared in its entirety.

In the trending video, Machakaire urged Winky D to approach the government with his grievances instead of using his music, remarks that attracted widespread backlash on him.

Feeling the heat, Machakaire has since issued a statement encouraging citizens to respect musicians’ opinions which he said should be expressed within the limits of the constitution.

“I have seen with growing concern the video circulating on social media. It is quite unfortunate that the video wasn’t shared in its entirety. However, all I am saying is let us not fight artists (Winky D)

“Let us respect their art and respect their opinions so long it’s within their constitutional rights. President ED Mnangagwa is saying no to violence, yes to peace. Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo and tisu vene vayo,” said Machakaire.

He further took note of the fact that many young people are unemployed which he said could be the bone of contention with most youths in the country but said the government doors are open to listen to the grievances.

“If he, or any other artist or youth out there has any challenges or grievances they need addressed our doors are always open to listen to them. I know most young people are unemployed and this is a bone of contention with most of our youth. In Harare alone for example roads in most of our residential locations have deteriorated, City of Harare is failing to provide clean and safe water, traffic lights are not working, stadiums are down, failure to develop working spaces eg Coca Cola. We have identified the problems and we need solutions to these problems which is why I am saying, come let us talk.

“I know we have a lot of brilliant minds in our nation and if we put our heads together we can come up with creative and innovative solutions to our problems. The moment we start fighting each other, it distracts from our purpose and instead of moving forward, we are stuck fighting each other where we could expend that energy and creativity into solving our grievances. That is all I am saying,” said Machakaire.

Heavy Rains Kill 6

SIX people were killed by the recent heavy rains while a lot of infrastructure was damaged, and some destroyed, in various parts of the country.

Crops and livestock were also badly affected by the heavy rains which fell from last Friday to Sunday.

The deaths of people and damage to infrastructure was mainly due to floods, lightning, falling trees and collapse of infrastructure such as schools.

In a statement yesterday, Ministry of Local Government and Public Works spokesperson, Mr Gabriel Masvora, said while the rains that had been forecast by the Meteorological Services Department brought good prospects of crop yields, they had claimed lives and property.

“The rains were experienced in most parts of the country as forecasted by the Meteorological Services Department (MSD), thus raising hopes for a better agricultural season,” said Mr Masvora.

“However, the rains left a trail of destruction in Manicaland, Masvingo, Matabeleland North and South, Mashonaland Central and the Midlands.

“These provinces recorded incidents of drowning, deaths of persons and livestock due to lightning, destruction of infrastructure such as schools, houses, roads and bridges and destruction of crops.

“A total of six deaths were recorded during the period in question. In Mazowe District, a Headmistress died on the spot after a tree fell on a vehicle she was seated in.”

Mr Masvora said of the six who died, two had drowned upon attempting to cross flooded rivers in Gwanda and Mutasa districts, while two were struck by lightning in Chivi, with the other succumbing to injuries sustained after a tree fell in Mazowe.

The other victim died in Gokwe South district after a house collapsed due to heavy rains.

“It is worrisome that a number of schools were damaged by the rains and strong winds at a time when the first term of 2023 was starting.

“A number of houses were also affected by flooding particularly in areas with poor drainage and low lying areas,” Mr Masvora said.

Outlining the damage across the country, Mr Masvora said Muparuri Primary school in Ward 7, Zaka district and Zihwa School in Chivi had their roofs for classroom blocks blown off due to strong winds associated with the rains while a classroom block was damaged at St Martins, Chivi.

At least three houses had their roofs blown off by strong winds in Mwenezi and Chivi districts with a private shop in Chivi damaged as well. In Mbire district, Mashonaland Central province, more than 150 ha of maize, sorghum, cowpeas were destroyed by floods while 20 A 1 farmers lost a combined 10 ha of tobacco.

Four beasts were struck by lightning in Chipinge and Mutare rural, in Manicaland Province.

Nineteen houses were totally damaged while 29 had their roofs blown off or partially blown off by strong winds. Twenty-two schools experienced varying destruction across the country.

“The public is advised to stay informed about the weather through daily forecasts, 10-day bulletins and seasonal forecast updates via the official Meteorological Services Department platforms.

“The Department of Civil Protection is advising citizens not to relax despite the termination of the alert issued recently,” Mr Masvora said.

Morocco Snub CHAN?

Defending champions Morocco have withdrawn from the 2022 CHAN just a day before the tournament starts in Algeria.

The withdrawal follows after the Moroccan national team’s request to have a direct flight to Constantine, where they were supposed base during the tournament, was turned down.

The two countries’ governments have a frosty relationship which has led Algeria closing its airspace to all Moroccan flights, adding to borders which it has kept closed since 1994.

The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) announced the decision to pull out of the tournament in a statement on Thursday.

Explaining its decision, the FRMF stressed that “the Moroccan football team is not able to travel to Constantine (Algeria) as the permission for Royal Air Maroc (RAM) flight, the official carrier of the Moroccan national team, from Rabat to Constantine has not been confirmed.”

The Atlas Lions had been drawn into Group C, where they would have faced Sudan, Madagascar and Ghana.

Meanwhile, the first match of the seventh edition of CHAN sees Algeria face Libya in Group A on January 13.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

How Olinda Chapel’s Fallen Into Deep Trouble

Dear Editor

It all started on the day Mai Titi got delayed at the airport as she jetted into the UK mid-November 2022.

Felistas Murata complained to her lives that she had been delayed by UK immigration while being grilled on her politics and criminal background. Her first gig was dragged as a result.

The venue was sabotaged due to complaints made to the property owners, who demanded an extra GBP5,000 saying this is because of complaints raised and revelations that commotion might happen.

The organiser, Kay Cee requested for GBP3,000 from sociallite Olinda Chapel.

Halfway through the gig, the property owners returned the money saying we have noticed there is no commotion at all contrary to previous fears.

Olinda Chapel Nkomo went into the function and dished out a few hundred pounds to Mai Titi.

On the 2nd function, everything went well. On that day someone from Ladies Of The UK, walked in during an occasion when Mai Titi refused to greet Olinda Chapel.

On 21st December 2022, there was a birthday for Ketty. Kay Cee was there. Ketty Masomere was there and Olinda started mocking her dress saying it looks like a lace curtain.
On another occasion, the women began another fight, and Mai Titi’s former friend, Patricia Jeke began mocking Ketty’s son. Olinda came out saying children are a no go area.

A back and forth argument was triggered, which resulted in Olinda Chapel saying the function was hers, of which Mai Titi started asking ‘which function?’

Olinda started saying it was her party, and further quarrels were triggered.

The women started fighting. Ketty started insulting Olinda’s mother, saying she didn’t educate her. Mai Titi sent an email laughing at Olinda.

Olinda, responding, screamed back saying: this is evidence that you are the one who sent Ketty. Mai Titi firing back, said: Olinda, you have been after me all this while, and the courts in Zimbabwe said you shouldn’t do this. You came to my function and gave me GBP300, and now what do you want from me?

At the airport, it is you who told immigration people to deport me. At the first venue, it was you behind it, and the 2nd function, it was you as well. At that juncture, someone then came up apologising to Mai Titi, saying, Olinda is the one behind all this, she sent us to sabotage you all this while. That is how all this commotion got triggered against Olinda Chapel.

The women who support Mai Titi are demanding that she apologises.

In December 2022, she says she spent GBP 1 million between Jan and Dec 2022. She says she has a lot of money.

All this is happening at a time when eyebrows have been raised over Olinda Chapel’s physical appearance, with skme alleging she is now looking like a 65y pld woman.

‘She is not looking well, and it seems the surgery was bad on her. Her explanation has been that she is too tired after landing from a foreign trip,’ one subscriber says.

Meanwhile, Olinda’s husband, Tytan’s mother is in the UK, and she is currently stuck because she doesn’t have immigration papers. She is not allowed at Olinda Chapel’s home. To see her granddaughter, Tytan has to take the baby to a McDonald’s.

Another lady who phoned Ketty yesterday, confirms the same thing that Tytan has to go to a McDonald’s to see his mother. –

Banks Should Reduce Extortionate Charges

By Engineer Jacob Kudzayi Mutisi | We must be the only country in the world where you deposit USD$100 in a business account and you do not transact. After five months your account will be wiped out. If you have a personal account the average charge is ZWL$4000.
It seems Zimbabwe’s banking sector is now making a killing than ever before by charging customers very high service charges and have all moved away from traditional banking services. Long back, in Zimbabwe one would leave the money in their bank account, it would gain interest. Today if you leave money in your bank, come after three to four months you will be owing the bank in whatever currency. Whether you have deposited the money in US Dollars, the bank will call you to advise you that you owe money.

Following the COVID-19 outbreak, Banks are now using information and communication technology (ICT) including basic mobile applications, web portals and electronic banking, mobile banking, as well as composite information management systems that seek to improve efficiency. Nationwide banking branches have closed with Standard Chartered Zimbabwe only left with one branch in Zimbabwe. With banks closing branches and technology replacing human resources, why are depositors still charged such high bank charges?
Financial services continue to see huge innovations in the use of technology within the financial world. The buzzword ‘FinTech’ is becoming commonplace in the sector and with an ever-evolving corporate and consumer focus, the need to keep up with advancement is seeing more choice and an improved user-experience across the sector. Banking was traditionally something that was done in the non-virtual world, physically. People would go into town, go to their bank to withdraw money, transfer funds from one place to another, and sort out their finances. You will speak to a helpful staff member and interact with people in a brick and mortar building. However, these kinds of premises are now redundant. Online banking in Zimbabwe has now replaced this whole process, we can transfer money or pay for goods with just the push of a button.
Using mobile banking, we can switch between banks and choose products for our requirements; the list is endless. We live in an age where we can access our bank accounts on phones, computers and tablets. This is the kind of thing that is disrupting the banking sector and is one of the bigger impacts on the industry and consumers. Why are bank charges not going or even completely eliminated?
For quite some time, Zimbabwe’s depositors have been complaining about crazy high banking fees. Zimbabwe as a nation is living in a desperate economy battling to stay afloat and what is more frightening is our Banks are charging us a fee to open and just to maintain an account. We are charging depositors for withdrawals and for using ATMs. They are your customers and there is no need to punish those who are contributing to the economic development of the country.
Businesses and individuals should take the time to calculate your monthly bank or mobile charges. You will be shocked by the monthly final figure. It is unfortunate that Zimbabweans depositors are funding lifestyles of bank executives with their deposits they are not benefitting at all. The culture of saving has since been eroded in Zimbabwe.
In Zimbabwe’s trying times local banks should be paying us a pretty good interest to help keep our business and personal accounts open. Financial service providers should help their customers to keep afloat than completely overcharge them to a point where our banks are literally stealing from depositors. The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe and the Ministry of Finance should advise the financial service providers to drastically reduce bank charges at this rate; it is not sustainable to the consumers.

Ramaphosa Is Ill-Informed To Speak About Zim Situation

Of late, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has been making a lot of noise over supposed “sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe”.

He has used every opportunity to speak to both his local audience and the international community to urge mainly Western countries to lift their restrictive measures on some individuals and entities in Zimbabwe accused of human rights abuses and corruption.

In his quest — which he appears to have embraced with vigour, as a man on a mission — he has even requested nations, as well as the European Union (EU), to remove these “sanctions”, in spite of the fact that there are virtually no longer any such measures in place imposed by the EU.

Similarly, the British — whom he also recently pleaded with to lift their “coercive measures” during his visit to King Charles III — have travel and financial restrictions on just five people and one company.

Of course, he made the same impassioned cry to his United States (US) counterpart, Joe Biden, on another State visit in September last year.

The US, through its Zimbabwe Democracy and Economic Recovery Act has measures on 171 individuals and entities supposed to have, somehow, brought a country of 15 million people, with over 40 precious minerals, and one of the highest literacy rates on the African continent to its knees.

No wonder in his fervent mission, Ramaphosa has failed to proffer a single convincing substantiated piece of evidence to his claims — particularly, how these targeted restrictions had brought an entire richly-endowed country to near collapse.

Admittedly, the imposition of sanctions (no matter their magnitude and extent) will definitely have an impact on the affected country’s economy.

Nonetheless, what we are witnessing in Zimbabwe is akin to someone who is punched hard in the face, but ends up losing all their arms and legs (as if cut off), his stomach slit open with intestines falling out, while stab wounds riddle thier body!

Surely, that would not make any sense!

If that were possible, then Newton’s Third Law: For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction, would be nonsense.

It is absolutely unimaginable that the targeted sanctions on a handful of individuals and entities could have wrought the carnage in Zimbabwe.

If these sanctions were that demonically devastating, how come the country’s President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa still believes that Zimbabwe can develop a US$12 billion mining industry by the end of this year, and an upper middle-income economy by 2030?

How can a nation be harbouring such lofty dreams if such measures genuinely restricted broader economic growth in the country.

Should the question really not be — why did the Zimbabwe regime not begin growing the economy, expanding the mining sector, and aiming for an “upper middle-income economy” some 22 years ago, when these targeted measures were imposed — since, it is clear they cannot stop us achieving these goals?

In other words, whose fault is it, then, that Zimbabwe finds itself in this pathetic state — where over half the population lives in extreme poverty (surviving on less than US$1,90 a day), and two thirds earning below the poverty datum line, while millions have fled to countries such as Ramaphosa’s South Africa?

Anyway, in this article, my focus is not on these so-called sanctions.

I am not really interested in what Ramaphosa has been saying — but rather, what he has not been saying.

If he is so passionate about the miserable plight of ordinary Zimbabweans — as he repeatedly purports — then, why is he always deafeningly quiet in the face of relentless barbaric attacks on the same innocent citizens, at the hands of the ruling Zanu-PF party and its regime?

Are we to assume that Ramaphosa’s profound love for us is only limited to sanctions and it is not really a big deal that we are savagely beaten up, abducted or killed by the ruling establishment in Zimbabwe?

Did he miss the viral video of defenceless elderly women and men being humiliatingly interrogated for reportedly attending an opposition Citizens Coalition for Change meeting in Murehwa rural area — thereafter, being viciously battered, using tree branches, by Zanu-PF thugs?

While he (Ramaphosa) was busy celebrating his African National Congress party’s 111th anniversary, on January 8 — and, reiterating his calls for the “lifting of sanctions on Zimbabwe” — was he not aware that there was this video making the rounds?

Well, if he did not know this — now he does! And why is he still so quiet like a church mouse?

We, the people of Zimbabwe — so loved by Ramaphosa so much, to the extent of “championing our cause” — now wait anxiously to hear what he thinks about these endless horrendous attacks on innocent civilians by the Zanu-PF regime.

We really do not expect to hear all this nonsense about “quiet diplomacy” — which his fellow South African leader, Thabo Mbeki, hid behind, as he flagrantly ignored the hideous crimes against Zimbabweans by then President, the late Robert Gabriel Mugabe.

If he can make noise about the removal of restrictive measures — then, I am quite sure, he can do the same in condemning the savage long-running reign of terror by the same people who are named on those sanctions lists.

If Ramaphosa is only concerned about the lifting of travel and financial restrictions on a handful of individuals and entities — who are predominantly those in power and already filthy rich, mostly from ill-gotten wealth — then, he is a grave danger to the people of Zimbabwe.

His overzealous support and defence of the privileged ruling class in our country — while totally disregarding the brazen brutally meted out upon innocent civilians — means he is complicit in these crimes.

Ramaphosa’s hands, by extension, are also dripping with the innocent blood of ordinary Zimbabweans.

It is clear that all his calls are insincere, and only meant to sound and look good in the ears and eyes of his comrades in Zanu-PF.

They have absolutely nothing to do with the sorrowful plight of the suffering, impoverished and oppressed ordinary citizenry — and, neither do they have anything to do with the influx of Zimbabweans into his country.

If he was genuinely concerned about the huge streams of immigrants flooding South Africa — then, he should boldly be addressing the real reasons Zimbabweans are fleeing their own country.

He needs to come out openly and loudly — as he is doing with supposed “sanctions” — urging the authorities in Zimbabwe to stop looting our national resources, and halt the savage brutalisation of defenceless civilians.

Ramaphosa needs to call upon the Harare administration to bring to book all those who have been, and still are involved in horrific attacks upon Zimbabweans.

He needs to urge the Government of Zimbabwe to prosecute all those who shot dead, in cold blood, protesters in Harare on August 1, 2018 — as recommended by his own comrade and former South Africa president Kgalema Motlanthe, after his commission of enquiry.

Zanu-PF thugs, even though reportedly, killed opposition CCC supporter Mboneni Ncube in Kwekwe and mutilated a mother, Moreblessing Ali of Nyatsime last year, and nowhere ever did we hear him utter a word about it.

The list of barbaric attacks on the opposition and innocent citizens is as long as the Bible, but Ramaphosa has been quiet like a Bhudhist monk in meditation.

Why is he silent when the electoral field is not level, and clearly biased toward the ruling establishment — leading to endless disputed elections in the country, with the resultant political instability, polarisation and flight of Zimbabweans to his own country?

That he will ever say anything, besides the dreary sanctions, would be too far-fetched to hope for.

He might as well forever keep quiet about our situation and plight because he is too ill-informed about it to say anything.

Mutero: Tagwirei Has Not Robbed You, Govt, Of Anything, Nor Bedded Anyone’s Wife

By Etiwel Mutero | The story claimed that Kudakwashe Tagwirei is using his financial muscle to divide the Seventh-day Adventist Church into two. The story went on to say that Tagwirei is sponsoring Church programs so as to have influence over a number of Pastors and Church elders within the SDA Church.

Etiwel Mutero

In addition to the above the author of the story alleged that Tagwirei was positioning his own people into influential positions in the church so that they support his agenda.

I would like to believe that the person who authored the Daily Mirror News article is a lazy researcher or he/she is just a mischievous author who was motivated to drag in the mud the name of Kudakwashe Tagwirei and that of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

First and foremost, Kudakwashe Tagwirei is not a member of a church called the SDA Church in Zimbabwe. There is no such kind of a church by that name and if it does I believe Kudakwashe Tagwirei is not a member of it.

This author joined the Seventh-day Adventist Church on the 25th of October 1990 and his church membership is held at Evimileni Seventh-day Adventist Church in Emakhandeni Surbub Bulawayo and he has authority to put the record straight. The rightful name of our Church is Seventh-day Adventist Church with no suffixes or prefixes like “in Zimbabwe” or “of Zimbabwe”.The Church adopted it’s name in 1863 in America at its first General Conference. So if the Daily Mirror story is saying Tagwirei has divided the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Zimbabwe then it’s another church which is foreign to most Adventists residing in Zimbabwe or abroad.

Secondly, the article says Kudakwashe Tagwirei is sponsoring various projects within the Church in order to win influential church members to his faction. In the Seventh-day Adventist Church, members cannot sponsor projects but church members pays tithes and offerings. It is these offerings which are used to develop particular projects within the church. Let me also explain further on this.Church offerings are paid to the Church Treasurer and the Church Treasurer allocates the offerings to different votes following the agreed Church budget and therefore no individual can individually claim ownership of a particular project as his/ hers or claim to have solely funded it.

Thirdly, the Daily Mirror news article claims that Tagwirei has divided the institution (the Seventh-day Adventist Church) into two. Let me explain briefly how the Seventh-day Adventist Church is organized. The Seventh-day Adventist Church is a world-wide church with it’s world headquarters in America Washington DC and this Headquarters is called the General Conference which is being led by Pastor Ted Wilson as the ‘Pope’ or the World President of SDAs.Below the General Conference there are different world territories called the Divisions which are continental based or a grouping of a number of nearby countries and Zimbabwe falls under Southern Africa-Indian Ocean Division which is based in South Africa.Below the Division we have what we call Union Conferences.A single country may have a single or a number of Union Conferences and Zimbabwe has three Union Conferences, that is, in Harare, Gweru and Bulawayo.Below the Union Conference there are Conferences and lastly we have a local Church below the conference. Now when the article say Tagwirei has divided the institution , the author of article was not clear whether Tagwirei has divided his own local Church where he attends Church services each Sabbath day or was the author referring to the Conference, Union Conference, the Division or the General Conference itself.

Individual members belong to a local church and each local Church like Harare City Centre Seventh-day Adventist Church have its own register of baptised members and each particular local church has only one local Church Pastor who oversees it.A local church Pastor is assisted by a single local Church Elder or a number of local Church elders who operates under a single local Head Elder. The local church elders are elected annually or biannually through a democratic fair and transparent process. We don’t cheat or rig elections within the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

There are various forms of church governance such as episcopal, papal, independent and the representative form of church governance and the Seventh-day Adventist Church uses the representative form of church governance. With this form of governance authority rests with the church membership .No single individual can dictate to the whole congregation what needs to be done at a local church but decisions are collectively taken.

One then wonders how Tagwirei can divide Pastors if each local church has a single Pastor who oversees it. Let’s assume the author was referring to a Conference in Harare since a conference is a grouping of local churches within a particular territory, but then how can Tagwirei divides conference wide Pastors? What advantage or what mileage does Tagwirei benefit if he leads a particular faction within the Seventh-day Adventist Church? I believe the Daily Mirror newspaper just wrote a senseless, unfounded and outrageous story for reasons best known to the newspaper editor.

The story further claims that Tagwirei is positioning his own people in different Church positions. It is very impossible for a single individual to solely appoint people to different church positions because the church election process cannot be influenced by a single individual. The whole nomination process is Spirit led and that campaigning or lobbying for church positions is prohibited.

I know that Kudakwashe Tagwirei maybe viewed as a political figure and that he may have a number of enemies but what should remain clear is that Kudakwashe Tagwirei does not own the Seventh-day Adventist Church.Again journalist must not try to drag the Seventh-day Adventist Church to fight its own wars with the businessman Kudakwashe Tagwirei.

If there is anybody in Zimbabwe with valid evidence which proves that Tagwirei committed adultery or committed fraud by siphoning public funds anywhere, please take that evidence to Kudakwashe Tagwirei’s local Church Pastor or local Church elder.Tagwirei’s Pastor will call for what is called the Church Board to investigate the allegations. If the allegations are proven to be true the Local Church Board will either suspend him from all Church activities or remove him from the Church membership roll. There are no sacred cows in the Seventh-day Adventist Church when it comes to Church discipline.

I thank you.

Mnangagwa Has A Personal Vendetta Against Sikhala, Says UK Lawyer

United Kingdom-based lawyer, Max Lion has accused President Emmerson Mnangagwa of abusing State powers to settle a personal vendetta against incarcerated opposition politician, Job Sikhala.

Sikhala has been in remand prison since June last year charged with inciting violence over the coldblooded murder of a Citizens Coalition for change activist Moreblessing Ali in May last year. She was hacked into pieces by a suspected Zanu-PF member in Chitungwiza’s Nyatsime area.

Sikhala’s co-accused colleague Godfrey Sithole, legislator for Chitungwiza North, and 15 other Nyatsime residents were released on bail.

Sikhala faces a separate charge of obstructing the course of justice.

Mnangagwa was petitioned to intervene by over 50 000 Zimbabweans and other citizens from other countries on the Sikhala case, but government has said the President will not interfere with operations of the courts.

In a long thread on Twitter, Lion said Mnangagwa must intervene to secure Sikhala’s release.

“Power comes with great responsibility and it reveals who leaders really are. Mnangagwa is weaponising the law and making Sikhala’s case personal by maliciously denying him a trial, while locking him up in prison. The abuse of power is of staggering proportions,” Lion wrote.

“When he became President, Mnangagwa captured the courts, judiciary, police, army, air force and the economic system which serves his personal agenda not the interests of the country.”

Lion added: “He (President) could have used his power to transform the country given the challenges under the previous President, but he made things worse.

“His government is a threat to citizens as rights are not respected. There is political violence as recently seen when elderly citizens were attacked by young people.

“Mnangagwa must set Job Sikhala free as the courts take orders from him. It’s not just fair and reasonable. It’s damaging the country’s reputation and opens the door for more sanctions. Zimbabwe is better than this and deserves better leaders.”

Efforts to get a comment from presidential spokesperson George Charamba were fruitless as his phone went unanswered.

The courts have said Sikhala is an unrepentant repeat offender in denying him bail.

Last week, Sikhala said he felt betrayed by colleagues, accusing them of working with the State to keep him in prison.

Beitbridge Border Police Busts Smuggling Syndicate

Beitbridge border police have reportedly bust a smuggling syndicate involving officials at major government enterprises (names supplied) and some Chinese companies.

According to NewsDay, the police allegedly intercepted three haulage trucks carrying chrome ore estimated to be worth millions of dollars being smuggled as chrome concentrate in what could just be a tip of the iceberg.

The trucks carrying the falsified cargo are said to belong to a Zimbabwean registered transporter (name supplied).

Government in January 2022 banned the export of raw chrome.

Officer commanding Beitbridge police district Chief Superintendent Tichaona Nyongo referred all questions to the ground commander of security officers deployed to curb cross-border crimes, who was, however, not immediately available.

NewsDay has, nonetheless, gathered that when police officers asked the drivers about their cargo the drivers collectively said they were carrying chrome concentrate.

On the declaration papers, which include the Bill of Entry E24887 the cargo was also falsified as 33000kg chrome concentrate per truck whose final destination was China.

It is understood the drivers told the police that the origins of their loads were a mine (name supplied) near Mberengwa.

Exports of unprocessed chrome were banned in 2022 and from July this year exports of chrome concentrates will also be banned to allow local beneficiation of the mineral.

A fortnight ago three trucks were also intercepted at the same border post after attempting to smuggle lithium out of the country.

Parly Gives Thumps Down On ZEC Delimitation Report

The controversial delimitation report released by Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) this month has been condemned by the ad-hoc committee selected by parliament on the basis that it lacked clarity with some boundaries not properly labelled.

In its findings, the committee concluded that there was a lack of justification for changes in the boundaries of specific wards and constituencies.

The report also noted that ZEC may have misinterpreted the minimum and maximum threshold as required by the law.

“In its analysis, the Committee, however, came up with key findings and observations which include the following:
a.  Maps do not show old and existing boundaries.
b.  Unlabelled wards.
c.  Possible misinterpretation of the minimum and maximum threshold”, said the report amongst other findings.

The parliamentary findings come on the heels of yet another damning report by the ZEC commissioners last week who sought to distance themselves from the delimitation report.

The delimitation report, the first of its kind after the adoption of the 2013 constitution received wide condemnation from all political parties leaving the already under-fire ZEC boss Justice Priscilla Chigumba with an egg on the face.

The latest development if adopted by parliament may point to the use of the 2018 boundaries in the coming elections bringing a sigh of relief to some politicians who lost their constituencies in the delimitation exercise.

VP Chiwenga Home Cop On The Run After Gunning Down 3

A former police officer from Vice President Constantino Chiwenga’s home is on the run after he ran amok yesterday, shooting and killing three people including the Officer-in-Charge of Wedza Police Station and an apostolic sect prophet, under unclear circumstances. Another policeman is battling for life in hospital after he was seriously injured during the shooting which occurred at around 2.30pm in Wedza. Sources told The Herald last night that the suspect is Jaison Muvhevhi, a former Criminal Investigations Department officer, who is armed with an FN rifle and is considered dangerous.

On the run… Jaison-Muvhevhi

Driving a white Toyota Allion, Muvhevhi arrived at the apostolic sect shrine at 2.30pm where members had congregated for their Friday prayers, and immediately pulled out a firearm and shot at one of the sect’s leaders from point blank range. He then attacked policemen who had heeded a distress call. The lone gunman then shot and killed the Wedza Police Station Officer-in-Charge and seriously injured another police officer.

A lifeless body of one of the three people shot and killed by Muvhevhi. From there, as if possessed by some evil spirit, Muvhevhi drove his vehicle to Mukamba Business Centre where he shot and killed another person, before speeding off. In a statement yesterday, national police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said: “The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) is urgently appealing for information which may immediately lead to the arrest of a suspect who is driving a Toyota Allion, new shape, white in colour, registration number AFW 7641.

Statement issued by the Zimbabwe Republic Police. “The suspect drove his vehicle and went to Mukamba Business Centre where he shot another person dead and drove away. The suspect is currently on the run and the public is urged to approach him with extreme caution.”

Asst Comm Nyathi said anyone with information that can lead to the arrest of the suspect can report at any nearest police station or contact National Complaints Desk number 0242 703631 or WhatsApp number 0712 800197 or Mashonaland East Operations number 06523 20581. Not much detail could be obtained last night, especially the motive for the killings, as police officers said the immediate task was to track down the suspect and bring him into custody before he commits further crimes. At the time of the shootings, the suspect was said to be in the company of a driver whose name could not be established by the time of going to print last night. Some people who contacted The Herald from Wedza yesterday said Negombwe Village in the Mukamba area under Chief Ruzane has been shocked by the killings. They said some of the villagers immediately went to hide in their gardens and fields while others left the area completely to avoid contact with the armed killer. There were indications that the suspect had a grudge with many people in the village after they blocked him from setting up a gold mining business, arguing that his project would take up a large area of livestock pastures.- State Media

Karoi Police Arrest Toy Gun Thief

A 30-year-old man has been arrested in Karoi on allegations of attempting to rob a shopkeeper with a toy gun on Monday.

“The shopkeeper had closed for the day when Tapiwa Mubondi allegedly persuaded her to open the shop on the pretext that he wanted to buy some tissues.

“While in the shop, Mubondi produced the toy gun after donning a balaclava and demanded cash.

“The shopkeeper alerted her husband who was outside and they called for help, resulting in Mubondi being apprehended by the public. The police were called, Mubondi was formally arrested and turned over by the public-spirited people who had grabbed him.

“The toy gun was handed over as evidence,” national police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said.

Olinda Exposed

By A Correspondent

A woman who was with LUK’s Flossy Kandodo said she does not want to see Olinda Chapel and Ketty Masomere.

There were screams against Flossy Kandodo.

Jamwanda’s First Ever Chamisaless Article

The following is Presidential Spokesman George Charamba’s first ever article which has no mention of CCC leader Nelson Chamisa.

File – deviantart.com

Prince Harry’s book, to the contrary, “SPARE” is a minutely searing portrait of a great royal soul shrunk by utter anguish, indeed a globally cacophonous call for rescue from consuming distress.

@Jamwanda2 on Saturday Welcome back, dear reader! Happy and Prosperous New Year to you my many readers. I hope and trust you didn’t drown your intellect in the bar of festive joys!

You need to be fully equipped so we resume the robust exchange through this column. With no holds barred; calling a spade a spade, never by any other comforting name. Here we go. The modest Frenchman

Albert Camus, the French, once reticently told his audience he was not of the right age for giving lecturers.

Albert Camus He felt more at ease in reflection than categorical assertion, because, in his words, “I do not claim to possess what is generally called truth.” Laced with poignant anecdotes though his lecture — The Crisis of Man — was, it soon became clear to his discerning international audience that Camus was in fact a fund of truths on humanity. Particularly humanity for his generation born at the close of the first European war, and raised under the dark shadow of an equally violent sequel — Hitler’s war!

When music rejects melody Bred in bitter circumstances of wanton human carnage, this interwar generation “believed in nothing and lived in rebellion.” Writes Camus: “The literature of [this] age was rebelling against clarity, stories and even sentences. Painting was rebelling against subjects, reality and mere harmony. Music was rejecting melody. As for philosophy, it taught that there was no truth, only phenomena: that there might be Mr Smith, Monsieur Durand and Herr Vogel, but there could be nothing in common between these three specific phenomena.” It was an age of nihilism, a generation “in negation”. Living under war Raised in the context of the Liberation Struggle, I easily relate to this dreary viewpoint. There is something about war and conflict which shrinks everything: life, time, attention, vision or even relationships. You grow wistful, restless and live improvidently for the day. The mathematics of survival reduce numbers to single digits.

Real versus Political Man Camus makes an even more telling observation: there is also “replacement of real man by political man. There are no more possible individual passions, but only collective passions — in other words, abstract passions. We are all introduced willingly or forcibly into politics. What counts is no longer respecting or sparing a mother’s suffering; what counts is securing the victory of a doctrine. And human pain is no longer an outrage, but just a figure on a bill whose dreadful total is not yet calculable.”

The story of three Greek brothers A good writer that he was, Camus gave three illustrations of deadened humanity to his audiences. I will pithily recount one, for me the most poignant and painful. A German officer leads three Greek hostages for execution by firing squad. Three brothers. Their elderly mother throws herself at the feet of the Nazi officer who, in a show of compassion, agrees to spare only one of the three, provided she herself makes the choice.

“Since she is unable to decide, aim is taken at them. She picks the eldest, because he is head of family; but by so doing so she condemns the two others, just as the German officer wished.” The past is not even past I am reading Prince Harry’s book, SPARE. It is introduced by a quote from William Faulkner, a novelist whose novels for me were turgid and tortuous. From Faulkner, Prince Harry picks the following quote: “The past is never dead. It’s not even past.” This is hardly the quote I would readily and boastfully abstract from Faulkner’s voluminous novels. He said more profound things, in less pedestrian style. I wondered why Prince Harry, an ex-British soldier who fought and admits to killing Afghans, would rest his maiden book on such a weak axle. Until I read more, deeper. In medias res Stylistically, the books proceeds “in medias res” — in the middle of the story, to rework itself backwards, through a series of riveting flashbacks. Prince Harry constantly reminds you he is reminiscing, re-narrativising occurrences from as far back as the self-conscious phase of his childhood. He reminds you, too, that human memory is broken and imperfect, including how written self-portraits often use this to dodge dark moments and actions for which straight confessions are unpalatable. Evasive anonymity Harry does more: he skilfully depersonalises most indicting moments in his narrative. As when Princess Diana escapes miserable Windsor and England with her lover Dodi, son of Egyptian tycoon, Al Fayed. Here is a sample of Harry’s plausible evasiveness — he was between 12 and 13 years of age: “The whole family [was at Balmoral], with the exception of Mummy [Princess Diana], because Mummy was no longer part of the family. She’d either bolted or been thrown out, depending on whom you asked, though I never asked anyone. Either way, she was having her own holiday elsewhere. Greece, someone said. No, Sardinia, someone said. No, no, someone chimed in, your mother’s in Paris! Maybe it was Mummy herself who said that. When she phoned earlier that day for a chat. Alas, the memory lies, with a million others, on the other side of a high mental wall.”

Princess Diana and Dodi Al Fayed This is a typical excerpt from the book, a book so thickly populated with anonymity, depersonalised actors and opinions. I met lots of that in my literary studies. Nothing new, startling. Fusing time for immediacy What makes an impression, made an impression on me, is Prince Harry’s use of time in his narrative. Time past, time present, and time future. How all the three are fused into a striking narrative, all in the historic present tense. The man floats between tenses with effortless ease, to give a riveting immediacy to his narrative which then illustrates Faulkner’s philosophical precept: The past is never dead. It’s not even past! True word spoken in jest So Harry is born, on September 15, 1984, born to Prince Charles, son of then reigning Queen Elizabeth, and Lady Diana, daughter of the Spencer Family. Years before him is born William, his elder brother and, long life willing, future King of England! At Balmoral, the two have as many bedrooms, Harry’s smaller, less luxurious and without a view. Let Harry himself pick up the narrative: “I was twenty the first time I heard the story of what Pa [then Prince Charles, now King] allegedly said to Mummy the day of my birth: “‘Wonderful! Now you’ve given me an Heir and a Spare — my work is done.’ A joke. Presumably. On the other hand, minutes after delivering this bit of high comedy, Pa was said to have gone off to meet his girlfriend [then Camilla Parker Bowles, now Consort]. So. Many a true word spoken in jest.” Boxes with strange contents Gentle reader, if you cringe at reading a 400-plus book called SPARE, now you have it! From birth, Harry was a spare wheel to the whole edifice and retinue of royalty; possibly a small spare, akin to that of a Honda Fit on an off-roader Mercedes Benz! An outsider living in; a misfit but one always in near and in tow, just in case…. By the way, it was not long after this high jest that the marriage between Prince Charles and Princess Diana broke down; indeed his work had been done! Still not long after that the ill-fated Princess Diana would be repatriated from Paris, in a small coffin, to then be laid beneath the well-manicured grounds of negated royalty, for some eternal cold sleep, from which Harry’s SPARE seeks to now resurrect. Soon after burial, Diana’s elder sister would give William and Harry a small box each, which the stricken boys thought contained consolatory chocolates from Paris. It turned out the boxes contained locks which the elder sister had sheared off the smashed head of dead Diana! Royalty in utter distress SPARE is a dreary and dreadful read, on House of Windsor. Prince Harry tries her stylistic best to create Dickens’ Bleak House where everything, everyone in it gets blighted. But that would suggest the book is abstract, which SPARE is not. To the contrary, SPARE is a minutely searing portrait of a great royal soul shrunk by utter anguish, indeed a globally cacophonous call for rescue from consuming distress. But a call made to an indifferent, nay mocking world, one so drained and bereft of any ounce of human feeling or empathy. When the centre could not hold Following the burial of Duke of Edinburgh, Grandpa to the two boys of Windsor, there is an attempt to solder the broken triad relationship of Father, Heir and Spare, in the gardens of Frogmore. Harry addresses the Heir: Willy, this was supposed to be our home. We were going to live here the rest of our lives. To which the Heir responds: You left, Harold. Spare: Yeah —and you know why. Heir: I don’t. Spare: You …don’t? Heir: I honestly don’t. Spare: “I turned to Pa. He was gazing at me with an expression that said: Neither do I.” Harry adds: “I felt massively tired. I wanted to go home, and realised what a complicated concept home had become. Or maybe always was. I gestured at the gardens, the city beyond, the nation…. I leaned back. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. It was one thing to disagree about who was at fault or how things might have been different, but for him to claim total ignorance of the reasons I’d fled the land of my birth – the land for which I’d fought and been ready to die — my Mother Country? That fraught phrase. To claim no knowledge of why my wife and I took the drastic step of picking up our child and just running like hell, leaving behind everything – house, friends, furniture? Really?” A civilisation in crisis My little advice to whoever wants to read SPARE: gird your loins; every word, phrase, sentences, paragraph and chapter is an unremitting assault on your senses and sensibilities. Throughout my literary career — I am one guy you invite anytime anywhere to teach any literature book from any literary tradition without prior warning — I never realised that empathy can be this painful to give, costly to your health as a reader even! But I am also appalled. Appalled by the response from formal, consolidated England: foremost its media, its scholars, commentators and defence establishment. How a society so historically vaunted for its broad-mindedness, for its loud claims to humanity, can extract crass and cold defensive readings from so intimate a book which overflows with such plaintive a cries of anguish and for help which go unheard and unrelieved, I am honestly at a loss! I doubt even war-concussed Camus comprehends this kind of civilisational crisis! Beware of Camus’ political man! Back home, the election season begins its tardy and ominous march. After the preliminary delimitation report — and preliminary is the word — our Nation now picks a quick shuffle towards a plebiscite. Yet going by images allegedly coming from Murehwa, the prelude to this impending process does not seem a happy one. We have seen clips of disgusting violence, allegedly linked to political contestation. Genuine man seems about to give way to Camus’ political man. Are we again creeping towards a short age of eternal negation, an epoch of hollowed values as a people? Governed by no creed There is no defence for the wanton violence whose clips we have seen, more so when perpetrated against defenceless women and men living last rounds of their advanced lives. It is cowardly; it goes against the peace we need, deserve and demand. Indeed is shakes our humanity to the pith. Destroys the peace our political leaders have preached and exhorted us to cultivate, nurture, radiate and share. As late as on New Year’s Eve, President Mnangagwa made an impassioned call and plea for peace and tolerance, especially as we move towards elections. Yet, as Camus would say, Mr Smith, Monsieur Durand and Herr Vogel are not humans; mere warring phenomena in governed by no creed! Nothing to be got from violence Speaking for Zanu PF, my Party, I cannot see how the President, his MP-elect, his councillor-elect or his Party can ever profit from violence. Equally, I cannot reconcile my membership to Zanu PF with perpetrators of such acts of banditry, with such abuse of the very persons and communities from which my party seek re-election. I can’t speak for the opposition, in the past itself quite given to stage-managing acts of gratuitous violence for overseas notice, and to delegitimise polls they readily see they are set to lose. Kudira jecha, in their parlance. Some one must do that, to prove its humanity and disavowal of this heinous spectacle captured on celluloid. Ambivalent feelings My feelings are ambivalent: partly outraged, partly elated. Outraged by the gratuitous violence on the aged villagers. Outraged by attempts by the opposition to politically evacuate the same victims who are the real complainants and witnesses, in processes of investigations, justice and repair. Evacuate them to some safe-houses in Harare. To what compassionate end? None whatsoever, as everything suggests mere political expediency, thus inviting more speculation on the identity of perpetrators of this wanton violence. Dreary dramaturgy Villains cannot be decided by who yells least or loudest press conferences; equally, victims cannot be deduced merely on the simple binary of ruling party and opposition. Only thorough investigations settle the matter. As already mentioned, victimhood has been used for cheap political capital and notice in the past. Equally, violence has been imported into our body-politic by a vicious third force. Nothing is straightforward, or is like it seems. Hence the need for ample leeway so investigative arms of State can establish real facts. Which is why anyone tempering with evidence and/or witnesses must be dealt with firmly, painfully. Leave the Police to investigate! Elated because our Police, true to reputation, have moved in professionally to investigate and make arrests. They are not yet done; we wish them God speed and wisdom as they ferret out. It restores and breeds faith and confidence that evil will not get away, let alone vanish unpunished. It sends a clear message to all political players that political violence exacts heavy punishment on perpetrators. The villains of Murehwa violence must be brought to book; the victims of Murehwa must get justice. Above all, voters of Zimbabwe must have their say. In peace they wholly deserve. Let the melody of elections nourish the music of permanent national peace: before, during and eternally after!

Atlas Lions Pull Out Of CHAN ?

Unmasking Olinda

By A Correspondent

A woman who was with LUK’s Flossy Kandodo said she does not want to see Olinda Chapel and Ketty Masomere.

There were screams against Flossy Kandodo.

It could not be immediately established from which floor the man fell.

A huge crowd gathered at the scene as police removed the body after paramedics pronounced the man dead.

“I heard a loud thud and was sh0cked to find out that it was a man who had fallen from a hotel room.

“I initially thought it was an electrical explosion,” said a vendor who plies his trade near the hotel.

The circumstances leading to the incident are still unclear as police investigations continue.

Atlas Lions Reverse Withdrawal From CHAN ?

After declining its participation at first, Morocco, double title holder of CHAN, will finally participate in the 2023 edition which takes place in Algeria from February 13 to 4.

It’s a soap opera that just ended. The defending champion will finally be present in Algeria to defend his title of champion of the African Nations Championship (CHAN)…

Indeed if the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) had affirmed Thursday morning in a press release that the local selection was not able to make the trip to Algeria to play the tournament there insofar as ” where the final authorization of his Royal Air Maroc (RAM) flight, official carrier of the Moroccan football teams, from Rabat to Constantine has not been confirmed”, the situation has changed over time. According to Footmercato, the president of the FRMF Faouzi Lekjaa explained that the team continued its preparation and hoped to take off for Algeria this Friday through a direct flight.

“The Moroccan national team is currently continuing its preparation at the M6 football complex. The visions of the EN and the FRMF are clear, and it is the participation, as evidenced by our preparation.

The only negative point remains the response of the authorities of the organizing country so that the EN can travel in the conditions it needs in Constantine. (…)

The Moroccan national team is ready to travel in the event of a positive response and authorization by the organizing body to move from Rabat-Salé airport to Constantine airport by Royal Air Maroc, the carrier official of national teams. said the boss of Moroccan football.

Recall that Morocco is housed in pool C along with Sudan, Madagascar and Ghana.

Running battles erupted in Goromonzi yesterday between police and an estimated over 1 000 Zanu-PF youths who had invaded a farm before pegging and allocating themselves pieces of land.

Several of the youths were arrested by anti-riot police and the area was tense when NewsDay visited the farm.

NewsDay gathered that the restless Zanu-PF youths had been promised stands by some ruling party officials and allegedly decided to invade the farm in frustration after the party bosses started dithering.

The farm is Lot 1 and Lot 2 of Lyndhurst Farm and is reportedly owned by one Maxwell Muziwi, a former top State security officer, according to sources.

The farm is adjacent to Epworth.

FULL TEXT: Minister Machakaire Speaks On Circulating Video Dissing Winky D

I have seen with growing concern the video circulating on social media. It is quite unfortunate that the video wasn’t shared in its entirety. However, all I am saying is let us not fight artists (Winky D)

Let us respect their art and respect their opinions so long it’s within their constitutional rights. President ED Mnangagwa is saying no to violence, yes to peace. Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo and tisu vene vayo.

If he, or any other artist or youth out there has any challenges or grievances they need addressed our doors are always open to listen to them.

I know we have a lot of brilliant minds in our nation and if we put our heads together we can come up with creative and innovative solutions to our problems. The moment we start fighting each other, it distracts from our purpose and instead of moving forward, we are stuck fighting each other where we could expend that energy and creativity into solving our grievances. That is all I am saying.“

Fresh Xenophobic Attack Fears As Operation Dudula Resurfaces

By- Foreign nationals in South Africa are now living in fear following Operation Dudula’s announcement that they would camp in schools targeting undocumented foreign children and teachers from accessing education in the country.

The targeting brought to light the typical problems foreigners face in the country, particularly Zimbabweans.

Many Zimbabweans in South Africa are economic migrants who have left their country in search of better opportunities but often live in poverty and face discrimination in the labour market.

The following is a list of the things the Zimbabwean diaspora in South Africa, especially the undocumented ones, have to deal with:

Xenophobia

Zimbabweans, along with other African immigrants, have been targeted in violent attacks in South Africa in the past. In recent memory is the April 2022 brutal killing of Elvis Nyathi who was murdered simply for having attempted to flee from a vigilante mob.

Analysts have however often highlighted that it’s not necessarily Xenophobia (a dislike of or prejudice against foreigners) but Afrophobia (a dislike of black Africans) as evidence suggests that non-African foreigners are tolerated by the locals.

Economic struggles

Many Zimbabwean immigrants in South Africa are underemployed or unemployed and struggle to make a living. Those without legal documents are often exploited by employers who take advantage of their illegal status.

Those that managed to get some employment also live in fear of losing their jobs if authorities and vigilante groups like Operation Dudula push for the locals to be given the jobs instead.

In 2022 one of the actions of Operation Dudula was to move from company to company searching out foreigners and demanding that the employers terminate their contracts and offer the jobs to locals instead.

Legal issues

Zimbabwean immigrants in South Africa often face difficulties obtaining legal documentation, such as work permits, which can make it harder for them to find employment or access services.

Many are undocumented and may be hesitant to seek legal help for fear of being discovered and deported. Even those who do have documentation may struggle to navigate the legal system and understand their rights, due to language barriers and cultural differences.

Additionally, many Zimbabweans in South Africa may not have the financial resources to afford legal representation, which can make it difficult for them to assert their rights or seek justice in cases of discrimination or abuse.

This lack of access to legal support and protection can leave them vulnerable to exploitation and abuse, and can make it difficult for them to resolve disputes or seek remedies for wrongful treatment.

Discrimination

Zimbabwean immigrants in South Africa may face discrimination based on their nationality, which can make it more difficult for them to access services or find employment.

Zimbabwean immigrants in South Africa may face challenges in accessing basic services like healthcare, education and housing due to a lack of legal documents.

For those that eventually get permanent residence or citizenship, their ID cards are distinctly different from local South Africans making it easy for public service providers, employers, and potential clients to discriminate against them.

In 2022, a South African health official was filmed accusing a sick Zimbabwean woman on a hospital bed that people like her were unfairly burdening the South African healthcare system.

Mental Health and Homesickness

Many Zimbabwean immigrants in South Africa are separated from their families and communities, which can be emotionally difficult. Many therefore wish they could return home but find it hard to restart a life in Zimbabwe after spending a considerable amount of time in South Africa.

Another cause of stress for undocumented Zimbabweans is living in fear of arrest and deportation.

In addition, newly arrived Zimbabweans especially may face difficulty navigating the cultural and language differences between Zimbabwe and South Africa.

Targeting by criminals

One serious issue is that of being targeted by criminals due to perceptions of being vulnerable.

Zimbabweans in South Africa may be seen as easy targets for crime because they are often living in poverty and may be unfamiliar with the area and its dangers.

Additionally, they may be reluctant to report crimes to the police due to fear of deportation or mistrust of the authorities. This can make them more susceptible to crimes such as theft, mugging, and extortion. It can also make them more vulnerable to human trafficking, as they may be lured by false promises of work and then forced into labor or prostitution.

Political Violence In Zimbabwe A Mirage in the Mirror

By Dr Masimba Mavaza | Zimbabwe is preparing for a general election anytime from June to July. This is a second election since the new dispensation. Zimbabwe has been written off as far as peaceful elections are concerned. Elections have always been associated with political violence and always our elections have been discredited because of violence.
It has become imperative that someone always stands to benefit from the political violence.
Zimbabwe has seen its opposition always given a victim card and always covered in the blankets of victims of violence. Those who stand to benefit from the violence have always caused the violence created it and fake it so that they remain under a thousand blankets of victim hood.
We must always remember that Political violence is a beast that is multiple-headed.
At its rudmentary form, it takes a character of direct violence which is akin to criminal activity. The only difference would be the motive. There are more complex and subtle forms of political violence.
Election violence is a specific form of political violence. It is conceived to and directed at influencing election outcomes.
There are more subtle forms of election violence as distinct from direct and unsophisticated criminality. The former is even more lethal because it is hard to prosecute under criminal law.
It is easier to accuse any government of the time for political violence because the state holds a monopoly of legitimate violence. These coersive instruments includes state guns, prisons, powers of arrest and detention etc. The state-citizen contract permits this monopoly to be used on our behalf in return for collective security and prosperity. This legitimate violence hunts down our enemies and protect our peace. It is not political violence. It is too easy to falsely accuse the state when it is excersing its power.
Opposition parties do not yield legitimate violence. They may employ both direct and indirect violence.
Indirect violence is strategic violence. This is when a political party or other grouping falsely create a situation of mistrust, and ridicule of state institutions so as to cause loss of confidence in state organs. This sophisticated approach results in disobedience, unpatriotic behaviour and hate. That is a fertile ground for violence. It gears citizens to a mode of unrest. It prepares citizens for outright denial of election outcomes where the rulling party is in power. It also creates typical conditions for polarisation and violence. This makes the whole election system a fuss. Zimbabwe always goes into elections which are already marred by the opposition media.
Electoral violence includes any acts or threats of coercion, intimidation, or physical harm perpetrated to affect an electoral process or that arise in the context of electoral competition.
Political violence is violence which is perpetrated in order to achieve political goals and it has become common that Zimbabwean opposition has benefited very much in the dust and smoke of the violence. The Western world has always sponsored the violence and descended into the arena where they become part of the violence. They have assumed the role of peace keepers and observers. But their presence in the arena has clouded their eyes and they have become part to the violence.
The American ambassador to Zimbabwe was once intercepted on his way to Marsh Central where he was going to campaign against ZANU PF.
Even where there is no violence they will create it or simply condemn violence even if it’s not there.
The British member of Parliament and a Lord are known to be sneaking in the country to motivate and create the violence which they will generate.
The West is quick to classify criminal activities as political violence in order to discredit the elections and give the opposition power to fight on in their losing battle.
Election-related violence has significantly hindered the meaningful engagement of young people in electoral processes. Their mindset is planted on a belief that election means violence. Elections are one of the main pillars of democracy. However, elections can trigger violence when fundamental human rights such as the rights of association and expression are violated and when certain segments of society are unable to engage with political processes.
The opposition and their handlers control social media. The use of media including social media to intimidate and harass is an increasing form of election-related violence. It can also be used to create a fake violence to boost their arguments that they did not lose.
In countries with a history of electoral violence, young people are often involved as perpetrators or victims of the violence. That is because they are often used as foot soldiers by politicians and armed groups that want to disrupt polling. As long as youth are vulnerable for political and military exploitation they will be hindered from fully participating in electoral processes.
ZANU PF is aware that Preventing the eruption of election-related violence is the way to preserve the integrity of elections and democratic systems is thus fundamental to a country’s long-term peace and stability. Reducing the risk of election-related violence is a complex proceeding that requires “[building] general trust among key players, including media, security services, political parties, civil society, and others in crisis prevention programmes. Therefore, political parties in conjunction with other electoral stakeholders, should take action to reduce the risks of electoral violence and enhance peoples’ sense of security and freedom in exercising their right to vote.
The violent video from Mashonaland East Murehwa is a very bad example of Zimbabwe. It is not even what ZANU PF stands for. ZANU PF Mashonaland East chairperson Daniel Garwe (Moyo Muzukuru) says he was deeply pained by the brutal assault of several elderly Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) members in Murewa last week. “I am pained by what happened in this area…We said experts should go and investigate….Zanu PF does not tolerate violence, it’s a peaceful party. That’s the only party that brought peace, there’s no other party. In some countries you hear about terrorists and bombings, here there is peace. This peace was brought by Zanu PF.”
There is passive violence when it is not physical but still has results which are the same as other forms of violence.
Crying wolf when the coast is clear is another form of encouraging violence.
So violence can never go unnoticed. A growing fraction of the election violence seem to be breaking out on the Zimbabwean front and in the last few decades it has acquired a reputation as a hotbed of violence and warfare. Social conflict and political violence in Zimbabwe is a complex subject, this is because the violence is perpetrated by the victims who deliberately slap a sleeping lion and expect it to smile.contrary to the jarring images of violence and famine that tend to characterize Western imaginations, violent civil conflict is quite a rare phenomenon in Zimbabwe.
It is only blown out of proportion by the prophets of doom who always want to see Zimbabwe fail.
There is evidence that since ED Mnangagwa came to power cases of political violence disappeared. The hot cruel violence in Zimbabwe is prevalent only in the Western Newspapers.
The most talked about video which was circulating in the social media of elderly CCC members allegedly being beaten by ZANU PF youth has ignited the fire of decampaining ZANU PF.
The Western press and as we will all see in few days British parliament will be going to lunch with the allegation that political violence is caused by ZANU PF.
Political violence in Zimbabwe is said to be rising and more complex than before. But it is surprisingly witnessed only in the Western papers and having been reported by the CCC who have occupied the permanent victim cardholder position.
Outbreaks of election-related violence can be devastating, but experience has shown that they can be prevented if and only if the West does not exaggerate the situation on the ground. The need for improved efficiency of electoral violence early warning and prevention is increasingly undermined by those who make noise and confuse a criminal action and electoral violence. Good practices – developed nationally, regionally and globally – offer useful
understanding of the phenomenon and of what can be done to improve prevention and mitigation. The President of Zimbabwe has always supported the establishment of national infrastructures for peace, which are also mandated to coordinate early warning, prevention and mitigation of electoral violence, helps to ensure that the
impact of such efforts is maximised. The Zimbabwe Republic Police has acted professionally and have treated any form of violent seriously. They have arrested perpetrators of violence regardless of which party they come from.
Zimbabwe knows that Election-related violence represents an acute security and development challenge. To that end Zimbabwe has advocated for peace and tranquility. To those who are violent bent will always be found under the sting of the law. Calamity will be upon them. Violence causes human suffering and death, destroys local communities and infrastructure, creates economic hardship and harms peoples’ trust in democratic processes and institutions. So the president of Zimbabwe who is a lawyer himself is an ardent advocate of peace.
Zimbabwe is well aware that Violence around elections increasingly captures the attention of donors and practitioners, who invest growing resources into enhancing the safety and security of democratic practice.
Therefore it can not allow violence to manifest in Zimbabwe.
ZANU PF has always condemned violence. Accusing ZANU PF of violence is mischievous and totally provocative.
It is true that there are people who are expecting Zimbabwe to erupt into violence. We must be able to see that and stand for our country. Those who cause violence in the name of ZANU PF must be disowned. ZANU PF and violence must never be in the same sentence. We must actually be persuaded by the words of the president that violence has no place in Zimbabwe.
What happened in Murehwa must be condemned if it indeed happened. If it was acting the actors must be arrested. Our elections are our pride. We must not spoil them by allowing few misguided idiots to destroy the fruits of our liberation.
Zimbabwe is the only country we can call ours and we must protect it with our blood.

Zim Woman Loses Husband & All Children To Boksburg Gas Tanker Explosion

By- A South African-based Zimbabwean woman, Audrey Mombeshora-Vushendibaba, lost her husband and two children to the Boksburg gas tanker explosion.

The tragedy happened two weeks ago in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The deceased are her husband Thomas (52), son Nathaniel (19) and Chiedza (26).

This leaves Audrey as the sole surviving member of the family.
Chiedza had just completed a post-graduate Diploma in Cosmetology and was due to graduate at the end of the month.
“The whole family is devastated. We were hoping she was going to make it and be the comforter to her mum.
“She was recovering well and it was only last week when she was taken into the intensive care unit. We received the bad news this (yesterday) morning,” said Sandra Mombeshora, Audrey’s young sister.
“Our hearts were still pained by the loss of Chiedza’s father and brother, and now this happens,” said the grieving Mombeshora.
Thomas was a qualified diesel plant fitter while his son Nathaniel had just completed his second-year studies in Bachelor of Education at the University of Johannesburg.
The son was also well-known in the music circles as a drummer. He was a member of the ZAOGA praise and worship team.
The father and son were buried at Elsburg Cemetery in Boksburg on December 31.
“We are yet to sit down as a family and decide on Chiedza’s burial arrangements, but she is most likely to be buried at Elsburg Cemetery where her father and brother lie,” said Mombeshora.
Mourners are gathered at number 40 Cedar Avenue, Plantation, Boksburg, South Africa.
The family is appealing for any material or financial help.

Dudula Bars Foreign Learners From Attending Schools

By- A xenophobic and vigilante South African grouping Operation Dudula, said it would camp outside schools across Gauteng Province to prevent foreign children and teachers from being part of day one of school.

The schools across the province were scheduled to start their 2023 academic year on Wednesday, 11 January, following the festive break. Said Operation Dudula:

As schools re-open Operation Dudula will be intensifying its efforts to clamp down on undocumented foreign kids and foreign teachers in schools, in order to make sure that SA kids are prioritised in Gauteng schools and to make teaching jobs accessible to South Africans.

However, Operation Dudula did not specify which areas or schools they intend to pay a visit to. | The South African

Chinese Already Taken Everything, ED Tells Diaspora Come Get Lands During Independence Rituals

At a time when Chinese citizens have been granted absolute takeover rights over ancestsal lands in ways never seen since 1896, Emmerson Mnangagwa has asked diasporans to return get land deeds during the upcoming independence celebration period.

This was revealed during interviews with the African Diaspora Development Institute which is led by the disgraced former ambassador Dr Arikana Chihombori.

Chihombori was fired from her job over financial corruption.

“The land was liberated and it has never happened to anyone that way. Zimbabweans took their land so that they own it and farm.

“Zimbabwe has now become one of the biggest exporters in the world with blueberries being exported to Japan and lettuce to Dubai.

“That is incredible because it is getting bigger and larger as commercial farming increases and we as the ADDI plan to bring the diasporans here to understand that this is the country we want to invest in,” he said. He said the congress would attract Zimbabweans living in different parts of the world including Australia, South America, Caribbean, Europe and others and allow them to explore the country and take part in celebrating the greatest achievements of independence.

Mr Cook encouraged Africans to be part of development in their countries. “People living in diaspora have to come to their African countries. They have to come because they have no way that you will understand what is going on in Zimbabwe unless you come. For you to be on ground, you have to eat the food, smell the air and get to talk to your people. “That is what the Pan African Conference is about. We have a thousand people that are going to come to seek investment opportunities and to relate and get to know Zimbabwe and this will help to complement the Government’s economic growth efforts,” he added. He applauded Zimbabweans for being continuously patriotic in revamping their country adding that the political stability being experienced in the country would contribute to economic growth. “We as ADDI are doing is to complement the Government’s efforts. Zimbabwe is an ideal area of economic integration. It is beautiful, the land was liberated. It is time to come and make use of the stabilised country for Zimbabweans to pave way to permanent employment creations,” he said.

President of ADDI Dr Arikana Chihombori said Zimbabwe had the qualities of hosting the Pan African congress.

“The history making event is going to take place right here in Zimbabwe, the big house built on stones where people used to run for refuge. “Zimbabwe is a beautiful country to invest and live in. The spirits of those who were taken out of Africa as slaves must be brought back home and the Pan African Congress is going be held in Zimbabwe.” She said the congress would once and for all bring back the children of Africa, descendants of the formerly enslaved and those who left Africa in search of greener pastures.

“The history-making event is going to take place right here in Zimbabwe, the big house built on stones where people used to run for refuge,” Dr Chihombori said. She said that the congress was a path line in developing a structured roadmap to unity of purpose in developing African countries that succumbed to colonisation.

Chamisa Scared Of 2023 Elections, Says Mutsvangwa

CCC leader Nelson Chamisa has demonstrated his fear of elections as seen by his avoidance of establishing internal structures in his party, and his imposition of candidates for national polls, Zanu PF spokesperson Cde Christopher Mutsvangwa has said. Cde Mutsvangwa was responding to assertions by Mr Chamisa on his Twitter handle that President Mnangagwa was afraid of the forthcoming harmonised elections scheduled for later this year. “Actually, CCC’s Chamisa is transposing his phobias to hoodwink and grandstand as he hides his anxieties and fears,” he said.

“In the first instance, he dreads elections, structures, congresses the standard internal processes of his own party. “He equally imposes candidates in brazen avoidance of internal democratic processes. Charity begins at home. Otherwise he is himself the thief crying out ‘thief, thief’,” Cde Mutsvangwa said. He added that Zanu PF was preparing for the elections and had undergone internal processes as part of the preparations. The revolutionary party held its 7th National People’s Congress last year where President Mnangagwa was unanimously elected as the party’s First Secretary and President. He was also elected as the party’s presidential candidate for this year’s elections.

“On the other hand, Zanu PF has been fervently preparing for the 2023 harmonised elections. It has gone through all paces as a Party. It’s leader, President Mnangagwa has been on a demanding agenda selling himself to the electorate across the land. He is clearly geared and is in full election mode. Contrary to a wincing, whining and hectoring Chamisa of nondescript CCC party,” he said. The CCC is effectively a group of former leadership figures from the MDC and the groups that split from it, often on personal grounds but with no formal structure. While ZEC, on its limited criteria, accepts it and its logo as a party for polling purposes on the ballot, there is no party constitution, not even a declaration that it is a body corporate, no way of becoming a member, no membership list as there legally is no membership, and no way that supporters can be involved in selecting party leadership, writing party principles, or selecting party candidates for councils or constituencies- state media

Garwe Issues Chilling Warning To Opposition Supporters

ZANU PF Mashonaland East chairperson Daniel Garwe says he was deeply pained by the brutal assault of several elderly Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) members in Murewa last week.

His comment came after a video of suspected ruling party supporters assaulting the opposition supporters went viral on social media platforms last week.

Addressing party supporters on Tuesday at Matututu shopping centre in Murewa North, Garwe said: “My colleagues, I am pained by what happened in this area. It’s something which nobody here can explain what transpired because we were not all there. We said experts should go and investigate.

“Zanu PF does not tolerate violence, it’s a peaceful party. That’s the only party that brought peace, there’s no other party. In some countries you hear about terrorists and bombings, here there is peace. This peace was brought by Zanu PF.”

He continued: “President [Emmerson Mnangagwa] is today preaching that we should live in peace, forgive each other and get united. The war veterans say ‘united we conquer’.”

Top Zanu PF party officials such as former State Security minister Owen Ncube have, however, been chided for threatening opposition members. CCC leader Nelson Chamisa has also been openly threatened with death by known Zanu PF functionaries.

Last year, Garwe himself was also recorded issuing a chilling warning against CCC supporters, while addressing party members in Seke.

At the Seke rally, Garwe said the ruling party will do anything to ensure Mnangagwa is re-elected.

“President Mnangagwa said the country does not tolerate violence, but if they (opposition) provoke us, definitely we are going to fight them and deal with them accordingly,” Garwe said in Seke last year.

“We are preparing a whip for all those who insult Mnangagwa as we are preparing for our 2023 elections. Don’t keep quiet if someone insults your President, we have to fight back and defend him.”

CCC deputy spokesperson Felix Mafa Sibanda told NewsDay that Zanu PF under the hood, encourages violence.

“Zanu PF has a tradition to tell people to turn right , yet it turns left. If we don’t have any change of mindset from Zanu PF, the 2023 elections will be bloody more than other eras in the history of Zimbabwe,” Mafa-sibanda said.

Meanwhile, massive divisions have rocked Zanu PF in Murewa district with a faction reportedly against the move to attack opposition party members.

Mnangagwa Minister “Bribes” Witness In Farm Inputs Theft Case

By- Fired former Agriculture deputy minister Douglas Karoro is likely to escape jail after a key witness has exonerated him from the charges of corruptly acquiring 700 bags of fertilisers from GMB Mushumbi Pools under the Presidential Inputs Scheme before selling them in Harare saying he had never met him or transacted with him in the alleged deal.
Mr Widdorn Chiodza exonerated Karoro while testifying in the ongoing trial where Karoro is jointly charged with GMB Mushumbi Pools depot manager Lovejoy Ngowe, Jeremy Phiri, Mugove Chidamba and Dean Dzimunya on fraud charges.
The inputs were set to benefit farmers in Mbire constituency under the Presidential Inputs Scheme.
Mr Chiodza told Harare regional magistrate Mrs Marehwanazvo Gofa that he was not aware of the role that Karoro played in the deal, as he only saw his name written on the dispatch voucher and then went to collect the fertiliser at Mushumbi Pools Depot.
He gave the piece of evidence after being asked by prosecutor Mr George Manokore to outline the role played by each person in the alleged offence.
Chiodza also told the court that he met Chidamba when he attempted to recover the fertiliser and the deal soured.
He said Ngowe was the one who gave him the dispatch voucher.
Chiodza testified that he gave Phiri US$10 000 for the fertilisers before he instructed Dzimunya to escort him to collect the inputs from Mushumbi Pools depot.
The five are denying the charges.
The matter continues tomorrow with Mr Admire Rubaya and Mr Batanai Pesanayi cross-examining Chiodza.

Jaure Speaks On DeMbare Departure

Former Dynamos captain Partson Jaure has broken silence on his departure from the club, saying although he is not bitter, he did not expect his career at the Harare gaints to end that way.

The former Warriors defender was shown the exit door by DeMbare when his contract expired on December 31.

Despite having a decent season last year when Dynamos finished third in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League, the club’s leadership wrote to Jaure informing him that his stay in the blue half of the capital would not be extended.

The former University of Pretoria star said he has no resentment towards the DeMbare hierarchy.

“As footballers we are used to these kinds of disappointments. It’s part of football and life in general,” Jaure told NewsDay Sport.

“Maybe it’s actually a blessing in disguise for me, who knows.”

“I wasn’t expecting this low key end to my tenure at Dynamos, a club that I have given my all. But I’m not bitter. Like I said its life and I’m okay with it. What matters now is I can still play soccer so there are always other teams that I can join and be able to feed my family. If I had not found another team, maybe I was going to be depressed, but as it stands I will be playing football next season so I’m happy,” he added.

Last season, Dynamos started the season well but fluffed their lines halfway through and eventually finished behind champions FC Platinum and second-placed Chicken Inn but Jaure said he tried his best to lead the Harare giants to the league title.

“I tried my best last season to lead the team to the championship, unfortunately we failed to win it. I’m wishing them the best next season and in the future,” said Jaure.

“Dynamos remains my team and I will always support them. I really enjoyed my time during the two stints I had with them,” he added.

Jaure is set to join Premiership debutants Simba Bhora and reunite with former DeMbare coach Tonderai Ndiraya.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

In the lead-up to and on 14 November, WHO will highlight not only the challenges, but more importantly the solutions, to scaling-up access to diabetes medicines and care.

WHO’s World Diabetes Day activities will cover issues ranging from championing the priorities of people living with diabetes in advocacy to the Global Diabetes Compact, which drives efforts globally to reduce the risk of diabetes and ensure access to treatment and care.

TIMB Wields Axe On Leanrise Tobacco For Side Marketing, Leasing License To Another Entity

By A Correspondent| The Tobacco Industry Marketing Board (TIMB) has cancelled Leanrise Tobacco Private Limited’s contract buying license after being found guilty on charges of engaging in side marketing.

In its 12 December 2022 dated letter to Leanrise Chief Executive Officer Rhonwell Danga, TIMB Acting Chief Executive Officer, Emmanuel Matsvaire accused the company of leasing its contract buying license to a company called Munyasha Tobacco.

“It is allefed that you committed an offence in terms of Section 81 (4) of the Tobacco Industry and Marketing Act (Chapter 18:20)

“In that you have contravened the conditions of the licence issued to yourself under the Act by leasing your contract buying licence to Munyasha Tobacco P/L thereby directly facilitating the buying of tobacco by a person without a licence,” said Matsvaire.

In their response, Leanrise through their lawyers Murambasvina Legal Practice hit back accusing TIMB of incorrect application of Section 81(4) which they said did not specify the conduct prohibited.

“An analysis of s 81(4) of the Act reveals that in terms of this provision, there is no conduct, which is specifically prohibited. Rather this provision just declares guilty a person who acts contrary to express conditions of an authority, licence or permit,” said Leanrise.

The company further accused TIMB of failing to inform them of express conditions of their licence that they were acting in contrary to.

“However, your letter seems to suggest that we are leasing our licence to Munyasha Tobacco P/L thereby directly facilitating the buying of tobacco by a person without a licence.

“Firstly, this is not a breach of an express implied condition of our licence. Please note that any tobacco purchased by the use of the Leanrise licence is tobacco purchased for Leanrise. In any event, the Leanrise licence cannot be used to purchase tobacco from growers who are not contracted with Leanrise.

“We are not side marketing and there is nothing to substantiate any allegation of such nature,” said Leanrise.

The company further defended itself saying it is entitled to have agents who use their licence to advance their business.

“In the instance, Munyasha Tobacco P/L is our agent and it is advancing the interest of our business. You have not established their conduct that violates any provisions, which we therefore become liable to,” added Leanrise.

However, Leanrise’s defense could not save them as, TIMB proceeding to cancel their buying licence putting an end to the drama that started as far back as August 2022.

“After considering the contents therein, your justification for leasing your license to Munyasha Agro Pvt Ltd and all circumstances surrounding the matter, the Tobacco Industry and Marketing Board has decided to cancel your license in terms of the Tobacco Industry and Marketing (Prohibition of side marketing) Regulations, 2022 SI 77 of 2022

“Kindly note that, effective immediately, you nolonger have any rights or obligations flowing from a tobacco contract buyers’ licence,” said Matsvaire.
