Angry Employees Torch Sugarcane Plantations

By- Tongaat Hulett Zimbabwe (THZ) has been forced to listen to its workers after they torched plantations of unripe cane in protest over low wages.

Last week the company had to increase salaries for the disgruntled workers after the sad incident.

The incident occurred after the company and unions representing the employees reached a deadlock during a collective bargaining process that began in March this year, with unions threatening to urge their members to down tools until their concerns are heard.

Plantations in Area 1 and 2 with various sections including 2, 9 and 13 saw several unripe cane fields being torched between 3 and 4 May, a development which saw several fire tenders being mobilised to tackle the blaze. The fields which were targeted had eight-month-old sugarcane which was not ready for harvesting. Cane is harvested after 12 months, but the company was forced to harvest the torched fields.

Two days after the fire, THZ called a meeting with three unions representing the workers and it raised the salaries all workers by 73.8% more than what they were offering before the fires.

The lowest-paid worker in grade A1 is now getting a monthly salary of ZW$54 000 and the highest-paid worker in grade B5 is now getting ZW$126 997.69, according to a collective bargaining agreement signed by the Zimbabwe Sugar Milling Industry Employers’ Association, Zimbabwe Sugar Milling Industry Workers’ Union (ZISMIWU), Sugar Production and Milling Industry Workers’ Union of Zimbabwe (SPAMWUZ), Sugar Milling and Allied Workers’ Union of Zimbabwe and the National Employment Council for the Zimbabwe sugar milling industry on 6 May 2022. The increase was backdated to 1 April this year.

However, employees are not happy with the increase after the company removed the cost of living allowance late last year as well as the removal of a United States dollar component, leaving them receiving only the local currency which is vulnerable to inflation.

SPAMWUZ secretary-general Adonia Mutero confirmed the agreement to The NewsHawks, but said workers are not happy with the increase which can cushion them for only a month. He said the removal of the forex component from the workers’ salaries will leave them in abject poverty, considering the current economic challenges affecting the country. He added that as unions they are not aware of the identities of people who torched the sugarcane fields, but said workers were angry during the collective bargaining period.

“I can confirm that the employer agreed to increase our wages by 73.8%, which is way below what we were expecting. Our situation was worsened by the removal of the foreign currency component from our salaries. We were receiving part of our salaries in foreign currency for two or three years but that was removed late last year and the employer is saying it removed it after a directive from Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe. We are aware that some of the sugarcane plantations in Triangle were torched, but as unions we cannot tell the identities of the assailants, but truly speaking workers were angry. We will continue lobbying for better pay which will allow us to live a decent life since the current salaries will see most of the workers living in poverty,” said Mutero.

Tongaat Hulett corporate affairs and communications executive Dahlia Garwe promised to call back The NewsHawks when contacted for comment, but she was later unreachable on mobile phone.

A senior THZ employee told The NewsHawks that the sugar-milling giant realised that employees were angry after the torching of unripe sugarcane fields and adjusted upwards what it had offered during the collective bargaining process. He said the company was offering ZW$37 000 for the lowest grade but later settled for ZW$54 000 after the unexpected fires which targeted the eight-month-old plantations.

“The company acted quickly after the fires but they wanted to play down the issue as if the fire was targeting ripe fields which were ready for harvesting. I can tell you that fire tenders were mobilised in a bid to put out the fire, but surprisingly they called unions for continuation of the negotiations where they offered more than what they were offering. This increment is nothing because we are now only getting the local currency,” said the senior employee.

With 19 000 employees at its peak, THZ is the country’s single biggest employer outside the government, making Chiredzi district the main cog in Masvingo province’s economic machinery.

Makamba Chased Out Of A Zanu PF Meeting

By-Businessman and former Zanu PF chairman for Mashonaland Central Province, James Makamba, has been chased out of a party meeting.

Makamba was on Sunday chucked out of a Zanu PF Provincial Coordinating Committee (PCC) held in Bindura by a party politburo member Kenneth Musanhi.

Sources who witnessed the incident said Musanhi, ordered Makamba to get out of the meeting when he (Musanhi) was about to give a vote of thanks.

The sources said Makamba was chased away because the praesidium did not clear him to be a provincial member.

“Makamba was given marching orders by Musanhi after he attended a PCC meeting on Sunday. Musanhi said he was not eligible to be in the meeting since the presidium is not at peace with him,” he said.
The businessman has made several attempts to be recognised by the party including campaigning on a Zanu PF ticket in the Mt. Darwin South and provincial elections but was disqualified on both incidents allegedly for his G40 links.
Contacted for comment Makamba did not pick his calls.

PSL Suspended Due To Barbourfields Chaos

The Premier Soccer League has suspended the Castle Lager Premiership season following the violent scenes that marred the match between Highlanders and Dynamos at Barbourfields Stadium.

The Sunday encounter at Barbourfields Stadium was marred by crowd trouble on seperate occasions in the second half.

The first interruption happened at the hour mark and lasted for fifteen minutes after the home team threatened to invade the pitch after Bill Antonio’s challenge left Andrew Tandi with a broken leg.

The incident also saw players and officials from both sides clashing, and Antonio received a straight red card.

Another lengthy stoppage followed when Highlanders took the lead in the 93rd minute through Washington Navaya’s header.

The home team’s fans then invaded the pitch to celebrate while Dynamos players surrounded the referee, protesting his decision to allow the goal.

The visitors felt Shadreck Nyahwa was fouled during the build-up to the goal, and there was another rough challenge on keeper Taimon Mvula.

As the Dembare players confronted the referee, their supporters on the Mpilo End joined in and invaded the pitch, uprooting the goalposts and tearing the nets.

The incidents led to the abandonment of the encounter before the fulltime.

In a statement the league said: “The Premier Soccer League has suspended all Castle Lager PSL matches with immediate effect until further notice following incidents of violence and hooliganism that continue to take place in our football.

“The PSL strongly condemns such acts as they can only serve to tarnish the beautiful game of football.

“We are currently engaging all key stakeholders to find lasting solutions to these challenges. We have scheduled a meeting with Security Officials including the Zimbabwe Republic Police, Club Security Officers and Marshals as well as stadium owners on Friday 20 May 2022.

“Meanwhile, we have requested Highlanders FC, Dynamos FC and the ZRP to furnish us with reports detailing the events that transpired at Barbourfields Stadium on Sunday 15 May 2022. We will take disciplinary action after receiving the said reports.

“We take this opportunity to apologise to all football loving fans, our sponsors and stakeholders. We hope to address these challenges before resuming football matches.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Admiral Muskwe EPL Dream Over

Admiral Muskwe’s dream of winning promotion to the English Premier League is over after his Luton Town side lost to Huddersfield on Monday.

The Hatters suffered a 1-0 defeat to lose the tie 2-1 on aggregate and miss out on a place in the Championship play-off final.

Luton were the better side for long periods on the night but Jordan Rhodes’ late strike won the fixture for Huddersfield.

Muskwe was not part of the matchday squad on Monday and also for the first leg.

But the Warriors international featured in the final round of the league season against Reading as they finished on number 6.

Meanwhile, Huddersfield will face the winner between Nottingham Forest and Sheffield United in the play-offs final.

The winner of the final will earn a promotion to the EPL and join Fulham and Bournemouth.

The Cherries, who have Zimbabwean Jordan Zemura on their books, secured an automatic promotion after finishing second while Fulham took the first spot.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Africans May Soon Start Importing Indigenous Fruits And Vegetables

By Charles Dhewa| Hate them or like them, the Chinese have become adept at quietly studying African natural resources such as local food systems. In every African mass market, that is ironically shunned by the African middle class in preference for supermarkets, it is common to see Chinese nationals buying local food and taking samples for researching. Since that level of curiosity is lacking among African academics, it may not be surprising to see African countries importing seed of indigenous fruits and vegetables from China and other foreign countries in the next few years.

Most vegetable seed grown in Africa is imported
If African researchers were as curious as the Chinese and other nationalities who are thirst for knowledge about natural resources and food systems, seed for most vegetable seed grown in African countries would by now be produced locally.  African food systems would by now showing the necessary uniqueness associated with community-led food systems. Currently, the way food is produced in East Africa is similar to processes followed in West Africa and Southern Africa. There is just no uniqueness at all.  Some level of uniqueness will become visible when, for instance, people start attending field days for huge hectares of commercially grown Ulude/Nyevhe or any similar local indigenous vegetables in particular African countries, the same way imported crops attract many people to field days.

 Limitations of supply-side approaches
Although African governments and development agencies have supported supply-side food production approaches for decades at the expense of demand-side interventions, several knowledge gaps in the food systems still exist, leading to dependence on imports. For instance, the lead time between planting a commodity and its availability in the market is still not understood by many food producers and policy makers. Also missing is acute knowledge on the dynamics surrounding food production in different seasons such as autumn, spring and winter.  Summer production is known to almost everybody because it is largely natural rainfall-dependent.

Very few farmers know that winter slows down the rate at which crops grow and that has a bearing on several factors like inputs, other resources needed and when the commodity will reach the market.  Many crops are very much seasonal and are time-specific in terms of planting and market demand.  With the onset of winter, crop growth rate slows down and that extends maturity days in ways that delay market delivery schedules. That is why early planting is often necessary in order to meet the requirements of markets which pay better.

Using nurseries or direct planting?
Differences in performance between vegetables grown through nurseries and those directly planted are also largely unknown. Some vegetables are better planted in nurseries and then transplanted into the field.  Such crops can take 1.5 months in the nursery before being transplanted onto the field where 2.5 to 3 months can be consumed during growing, mature before availability on the market. These crops can then be in the market for at least 4 months. In most cases, consumers do not care about all these lead times because what they just want is food on the table. The onus is on farmers to know these dynamics. Where farmers lack the knowledge, African academics should fill the gaps instead of leaving everything to chance.

Crops that need nursery planting

Crops that can be directly planted

Tomatoes
Cabbages
Peppers- Green Red and Yellow

Vegetables
Broccoli
Cauliflower
Lettuce
Butternut
Carrots
Cucumbers
Green mealies
Peas
Green Beans
Baby Marrow

The value of proper sequencing
Proper sequencing of food production is very important if farmers are to meet market requirements in sustainable ways that also ensure resilient food and nutrition security.  Relying on imported seed renders most African countries vulnerable to external shocks. For instance, farmers may plan to grown carrots only for carrots seed to be unavailable in the country due to limited foreign currency needed for importing the seed. For most food crops, shortage of foreign currency to import specific types of seeds can seriously delay field planting times to enable the market to get food on time. This is one way consistency in food supply is disrupted, leading to persistent hunger and malnutrition.  Investing in local seed research and production can be the best solution instead of depending entirely on imports.  High levels of curiosity are needed among African academics and researchers.

RBZ In Policy U-Turn

Mugabe Jnr Hospitalised In Singapore

By A Correspondent- The late former President Robert Mugabe’s son Robert Jnr has reportedly been hospitalised in Singapore after his right lung collapsed.

The health condition is known as pneumothorax.

Pneumothorax, according to health literature, refers to a condition in which the space between the wall of the chest cavity and the lung is filled with air, causing all or a portion of the lung to collapse. Air usually enters this space, called the pleural space, through an injury to the chest wall or a hole in the lung.

Its cause may include cyanide poisoning, trauma to the chest cavity, a fractured rib, or trauma from a bullet or knife.  Other causes may also include cigarette smoking, drug abuse and certain lung diseases.

During the March 26 by-election campaign period, Robert Jnr attended one of President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s rallies in Epworth, which sent tongues wagging with people saying that he was putting his life in danger.

Former Foreign Affairs minister Walter Mzembi yesterday tweeted: “It was always careless, too soon to trust your own fathers’ persecutors, cozy up to them with such reckless abandon and think you would be safe in such company. Preserve the family lineage and cut the political adolescence! We pray for wisdom.”

Asked by NewsDay to explain his tweet, Mzembi said:  “It has also happened even in the Bible where the enemy wants to wipe out a whole lineage an Old Testament kind of thinking. Sadly, kids are also getting naïve. Yes, I have had my own personal experience, many of them and one of them is that I had to spend seven hours on a bench in Cape Town while they removed some dangerous poison from my body. Why do you think we are out here? They (Mnangagwa’s regime) are not sincere or noble.”

Efforts to get a comment from Information minister Monica Mutsvangwa were fruitless yesterday.

Information secretary Ndabaningi Mangwana, however, responded to the speculation with a tweet: “I think we should respect individuals’  right to confidentiality when it comes to health issues, especially where one is a private citizen. The young man is not a public official.”

Zanu-PF secretary for administration Obert Mpofu dismissed the allegations that Robert Jnr could have been poisoned by the regime.

I am out of town and, therefore, not very up to date with the issue. Whatever the case may be, we don’t comment on individuals’ health and Zanu-PF has nothing to do with this,” Mpofu said.-newsday

ED Challenger Further Detained

By A Correspondent- Zanu-PF activist Sybeth Musengezi, who challenged President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s ascendency to power, was yesterday further remanded in custody after the State requested postponement to today.

Musengezi was arrested last week for allegedly obtaining a Zanu-PF membership card fraudulently.

When Musengezi appeared yesterday before Harare magistrate Yeukai Dzuda, his lawyers Nqobani Sithole and Douglas Coltart argued that their client should not continue languishing in prison because of continuous delays in hearing the case.

Sithole submitted that there was no need to continue to detain Musengezi because he was not a flight risk and was in constant communication with the police, which made him a proper candidate for bail.

He also argued that Musengezi had no business interests outside the country having travelled less than 10 times since 2015.

Sithole further averred: “The documents that were submitted before this court were authored by Zanu-PF, which manipulated them.”

The investigation officer in the matter, however, said Musengezi could use other means to skip borders and travel outside of the country.

The court alleges that on a date yet to be established in 2012, Musengezi acting in common purpose with Allen Chisuko and Taurai Mutimbanyoka misrepresented to Zanu-PF that he resided at House Number 4315 Hatcliffe Extension, Harare in order to become a member of the party’s Muzinda 1A district.

As a result of the alleged misrepresentation, the State said Musengezi fraudulently became a member of the Zanu-PF district. As a result of the misrepresentation, Musengezi became eligible to contest for a Zanu-PF branch position.

In 2021, Musengezi filed a court application, challenging the constitutionality of President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s ascendancy to Zanu-PF leadership in 2017 after the late former President Robert Mugabe was removed from power in a military coup.

Anesu Chirenje prosecuted.

RBZ IN U-TURN OVER SUSPENSION OF LENDING BY BANKS

The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe has announced that the temporary suspension of lending by banks has been lifted with immediate effect. In a statement, seen by Pindula News, the central bank’s governor, Dr John Panonetsa Mangudya said the suspension remains in effect for entities under investigation for abusing loan facilities. We present Mangudya’s statement below:

UPLIFTMENT OF TEMPORARY SUSPENSION OF LENDING BY BANKS

Further to the circular the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (the Bank) issued to banks on 9 May 2022, the Bank wishes to advise the public that the temporary suspension of lending services by banks has been lifted with immediate effect.

The lifting of the suspension does not apply to those entities that are under investigation by the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) for abusing loan facilities to the detriment of the economy. The FIU has accordingly advised all banks of the affected entities.

John P Mangudya Governor

The suspension of the lending facility was heavily criticised by analysts who said it would worsen an already dire economic crisis.

Local companies also criticised the move saying they would not have the capacity to keep their businesses running and would not be able to compete with importers or multinational companies.

Some basic commodities including cooking oil and sugar had already started disappearing from some shops with owners attributing the “disappearance” to the latest measures.

Finance and Economic Development Minister Mthuli Ncube had said the ban on bank lending announced by President Mnangagwa last weekend was aimed at combating indiscipline in the financial services sector driving inflation and weakening the local currency.

Mugabe Preferred Successor In An Embarrassing Debt

By- The late President Robert Mugabe’s preferred successor Sydney Sekeramayi, has been sued for failing to repay a debt he got from a friend.

The former Defence and State Security Minister is in financial difficulty and is failing to repay the US$250 000 he borrowed from a friend.

The Zanu PF Politburo member was sued by his friend, Exevia Maoneke, who wanted to force him to repay the loan.

According to court papers seen by NewZimbabwe.com, Maoneke gave the money to Sekeramayi last year, who promised to repay by 28 February this year.

Sekeramayi was given the money in two batches: he received the first batch of US$150 000 on 18 August 2021, and later US$100 000.

The politician offered a stand in Marondera, measuring 4 199 hectares as collateral security.

Sekeramayi was supposed to pay U$150 000 on 4 December 2021 while the remaining balance of US$100 000 was supposed to be paid on 28 February this year.

His failure to repay the loan prompted Maoneke to seek the High Court’s intervention.

High Court judge, Justice Slyvia Chirawu-Mugomba, ruled that Sekeramayi should repay the loan. She said:

Whereupon, after reading documents filed of record and hearing counsel, it is ordered that the provisional sentence be and is hereby granted against Sekeramayi.

Sekeramayi shall pay Maoneke US$250 000 plus interest at the prescribed rate of five per cent from the date of filing of the summons until the date of payment.

The immovable property called stand 722 Marandellas Lands, measuring 4 199 square meters, held under deed of transfer No’ 10120/1997 dated November 25, 1997, be and is hereby declared executable.

Justice Chirawu-Mugomba also ordered Sekeramayi to pay a collection commission in terms of the Law Society of Zimbabwe Tariff being 10 per cent of the capital.

Mugabe Expose’ Dies

By Staff Reporter- Former Tourism Permanent Secretary Silver Maunganidze has died.

Maunganidze’s death was Monday announced by former Finance deputy minister Terrence Mukupe on his social media platforms.

Maunganidze was fired after divulging in 2012 that the government had lied to the World about its preparedness to host United Nations World Tourism Organisation UNWTO.

The then Tourism Minister Walter Mzembi had indicated that the country was more than prepared to host the UNWTO in 2013 together with Zambia.

Maunganidze said, “Most of the money promised is still on paper, making it difficult to develop Victoria Falls to levels we were aiming at. Until such funds are made available, I will be selling an imaginary Victoria Falls.”

Maunganidze was also supported by Tendai Biti, who was the Finance Minister then who said the government’s bank balance stood at $217.

ZCTU Slams Mnangagwa

THE Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions has slammed President Emmerson Mnangagwa for implementing a raft of economic stabilisation measures before consulting with partners at the Tripartite Negotiation (TNF) and warned the measures could trigger massive job cuts.

The TNF is a social dialogue platform which brings together government, business and  labour representatives in order to establish common ground before enacting key public policies.

In a statement, ZCTU secretary general, Japhet Moyo criticised the manner in which the measures were affected.

“We are concerned about the nocturnal announcement of these measures without any social dialogue which goes against the letter and spirit of the TNF.

“The ZCTU is also concerned that some of these measures might further weaken the already weak confidence and trust in the local currency and economy in general thereby threatening the few remaining formal sector jobs,” said Moyo.

The union decried the fact that currently Zimbabwe has the highest annual inflation in SADC and the second highest in Africa after Sudan which has an annual inflation rate of 263,2% as at March 2022 which has seen ordinary workers bearing the disproportionate brunt from this chronic high inflationary trend with the nominal average monthly wages being massively eroded.

The union pointed out the major drivers of the chronic high inflation as  the unsustainable increase in broad money supply, the widening black-market premium and the commodity price shocks induced by the war in Ukraine.

“Foreign currency cash withdrawal levy will discourage economic agents from using the formal banking sector which will further exacerbate the already high level of informality in the economy. The settlement of foreign currency tax obligations in local currency will also result in an increase in broad money supply growth in the economy which could further stoke up inflationary pressures in general,” said Moyo.

Moyo warned that the suspension of lending by banks will starve companies of working capital and in turn prompt job cuts.

Man Assaults Married Woman For Rejecting Love Proposal

A man from Makoni District, Manicaland Province, reportedly assaulted his married neighbour after she turned down his love proposals.

Rabhani Dzveta of Nyamombe Village allegedly attempted to entice Pamela Mafuta, whose husband stays in Botswana, into an adulterous relationship.

Mafuta told the traditional court that Dzveta assaulted her after she spurned her advances twice. She said:

Dzveta visited my homestead and proposed love to me and I turned him down. He came back on the second day and I turned him down again.

He became angry, asking why I was refusing to date him. He said l was dating other men in the village. He attacked me until I fell down.

My two children witnessed the whole drama. He has no shame at all because his wife is my friend. He is also in the habit of hitting his wife.

However, Dzveta denied ever proposing love to Mafuta but admitted that he assaulted her in retaliation. He said:

She is lying that I proposed love to her. We fought after I barred her from socialising with my wife.

She is not of good moral standing, so I don’t want her to influence my wife.

However, my wife is also defying my instructions and continues to befriend Mrs Mafuta. I have failed to control these two women.

I approached Mrs Mafuta and told her to stay away from my wife. This angered her and she assaulted me.

I retaliated, but now she is cooking up stories that I proposed love to her.

In his ruling, Chief Makoni ordered Dzveta to pay a fine of two beasts and a goat for beating up his neighbour’s wife. Said the chief:

We do not tolerate violence against women. Men should protect women but you are behaving like a village bully, moving around beating other men’s wives. – Manica Post

Seven Miners Feared Dead

Seven miners from Bucks Mine in Colleen Bawn are feared dead after hoisting ropes to a skip bringing them up the shaft from underground snapped, plunging them back on a free-fall of about 200 metres.
Sources said the skip dragged the miners to the bottom of the shaft and first respondents to the scene saw splatters of blood on the walls of the shaft going down.

The miners who had just finished a shift had been trapped underground from around 5PM on Saturday.

An official from the Ministry of Mines who preferred anonymity said the seven men were being pulled out a 200-metre-deep shaft in a cage when a rope snapped and the cage plunged into the shaft.

The official said a rescue team was in the process of draining water from the shaft to get to trapped miners.

“A team from the office is on the ground as well as a rescue team from Vumbachikwe Mine.

For now, the team is trying to drain water out of the shaft.

We fear that there might also be mud which will mean that we will have to scoop out the mud as well.

“This incident can be linked to negligence because first of all seven men were not supposed to be in that cage at once because it has a low carrying capacity. The rope was also weak to carry the cage,” he said.

“The guys were riding on a 1-ton size cocopan (ingorovane), up a vertical shaft slung on a wire rope which snapped towards the surface and they were plunged with the cocopan towards the shaft bottom, shaft has water and mud unknown depth at the bottom.”

Curious villagers were gathered around the mine as they waited for news on the miners.

One of the villagers, Mr Thando Sibanda said they heard of the accident at the gold mine and had been anxiously waiting for updates.

“Information has been coming in dribs and drabs so we don’t really know what’s happening.

It’s very unfortunate that this befell these miners.

We just heard that the ropes that were bringing up the shaft broke and they fell back into the mine.

We’re just sitting here waiting for more information,” said Mr Sibanda.

The owners of the mine had cordoned the area with tight security put in place controlling who gets in or out of the mine.

Police were attending to the scene.

Last night, Matabeleland South provincial police spokesperson Inspector Loveness Mangena said police had been called to the scene and investigations were underway.

“Police are still attending to the scene. –Chronicle

Sekeramayi Trapped in USD250K Debt

Former State Security minister and Zanu PF bigwig Sydney Sekeramayi has been dragged to court over a US$250 000 debt he owes a friend.

Sekeramayi, who is also a Mashonaland East senator, was sued by businessman and Hwezhaz proprietor Exevia Maoneke, who claims that he lent him the money last year and the former minister promised to pay it back by February 28 this year.

After Sekeramayi failed to pay the debt, Maoneke sought the court’s intervention.

Court papers state that the money was given to the politician in two batches of US$150 000 on August 18, 2021 and US$100 000 on a later date.

The court papers also further state that Sekeramayi offered his Marondera stand measuring 4 199 hectares as surety and mortgage bonds were registered against the property.

After he failed to pay back, Maoneke’s lawyers wrote a letter of demand to Sekeramayi.

“You will recall that it was a material term of the agreement that the loan would become due and payable on the 28th of February 2022. Having not tendered repayment, we are accordingly instructed to serve this letter as our client’s final demand that you pay US$250 000,” the letter from the lawyers read.

Copies of the mortgage bond revealed that Sekeramayi was supposed to pay U$150 000 on December 4 last year.

The balance of US$100 000 was supposed to be paid on February 28 this year.

The final letter of demand was handed to Sekeramyi at his Borrowdale residence in March 2022 where Maoneke gave him until March 14 to settle the debt.

While passing judgment on the matter, High Court judge Justice Slyvia Chirawu-Mugomba said Sekeramayi should pay the debt.

Chirawu-Mugomba slapped the former minister with costs of the lawsuit.

“Whereupon after reading documents filed of record and hearing counsel, it is ordered that the provisional sentence be, and is hereby granted against Sekeramayi. Sekeramayi shall pay Maoneke US$250 000 plus interest at the prescribed rate of five percent (5%) at the date of filing of the summons until the date of payment,” Chirawu-Mugomba ruled.

“The immovable property called stand 722 Marandellas Lands measuring 4 199 square metres, held under deed of transfer No 10120/1997 dated November 25, 1997 be, and is hereby declared executable,” the judge added.

Sekeramayi was also ordered to pay a collection commission in terms of the Law Society of Zimbabwe tariff, being 10% of the capital.- Newsday

Mnangagwa Arrests Own Legal Challenger

So the man who is challenging the legitimacy of the Zanu PF leader in the High Court gets arrested for using a wrong address to join Zanu PF? I am trying to see the prejudice suffered by Zanu PF by having a wrong address of a card carrying member in its records.– Reason Wafawarova.

ZANU PF activist Sybeth Musengezi, who challenged President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s ascendency to power, was yesterday further remanded in custody after the State requested postponement to today.

Musengezi was arrested last week for allegedly obtaining a Zanu PF membership card fraudulently.

Sithole further averred: “The documents that were submitted before this court were authored by Zanu PF, which manipulated them.”

The investigation officer in the matter, however, said Musengezi could use other means to skip borders and travel outside of the country.

The court alleges that on a date yet to be established in 2012, Musengezi acting in common purpose with Allen Chisuko and Taurai Mutimbanyoka misrepresented to Zanu PF that he resided at House Number 4315 Hatcliffe Extension, Harare in order to become a member of the party’s Muzinda 1A district.

As a result of the alleged misrepresentation, the State said Musengezi fraudulently became a member of the Zanu PF district. As a result of the misrepresentation, Musengezi became eligible to contest for a Zanu PF branch position.

In 2021, Musengezi filed a court application, challenging the constitutionality of President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s ascendancy to Zanu PF leadership in 2017 after the late former President Robert Mugabe was removed from power in a military coup. -Newsday

Mutsvangwa: Economy Will Shoot Up And Chamisa Lacks Vision

The Zanu PF national Secretary for Information and Publicity, Ambassador Chris Mutsvangwa has said the economy will shoot up adding his view that opposition leader Nelson Chamisa lacks vision.

He was spaking during Mashonaland West’s Provincial Coordinating Committee (PCC) meeting in Chinhoyi yesterday.

Mutsvangwa said the Second Republic had created a conducive environment for business to thrive, even in the face of debilitating sanctions.

“Our economy is rising despite illegally imposed sanctions and some nations without sanctions are trailing behind us because of the works being done by the Second Republic,” said Mutsvangwa.

“The wanton price hikes are uncalled for and are being peddled by our economic saboteurs and President Mnangagwa’s political rivals.

“Regardless of the acts of destabilising the economy and our local currency, President Mnangagwa remains on top of the situation. We will have a stable currency because that is the last fight for our independence.”

Mutsvangwa said the West does not want Harare to have a stable local currency, but wants to impose a base currency.

Zimbabwe’s economy, he said, was on the rebound as a result of citizens’ participation and the coming in of investors under the “Zimbabwe is open for business” mantra.

The country is now poised to be one of the best steel producing nations in the world, with a preliminary target of at least one million tonnes of steel at Manhize Steel Plant in Chirumanzu.

Another biggest copper circuit producing company in the world, Grand Sanyuan Copper Resources, has invested at least US$6 million to revive the Alaska Copper Smelting plant in Chinhoyi.

Mutsvangwa said CCC leader Nelson Chamisa lacks vision and strength to run and lead a nation.

In her remarks, ZANU PF Mashonaland West provincial chairman, Mary Mliswa-Chikoka, called for unity among party’s cadres.

“Let’s work for the party and President Mnangagwa’s 2023 harmonised election resounding victory. We should also encourage our members and communities to embrace the current identification documents and voter registration exercises,” she said.

The meeting also saw candidates vying for national Women’s League positions successfully submitting their CVs, with Cdes Jennifer Mhlanga and Caroline Mugabe representing Makonde and Zvimba district, going unopposed.

Zanu PF’s Science and Technology Secretary, Ziyambi Ziyambi and Makonde District Coordinating Committee chairman, Kindness Paradza, were some of the people who attended the strategic meeting. Herald

Mugabe Candid Tourism Advisor Dies

By Staff Reporter- Former Tourism Permanent Secretary Silver Maunganidze has died.

Maunganidze’s death was Monday announced by former Finance deputy Minister Terrence Mukupe on his social media platforms.

Maunganidze became unpopular and got fired after divulging in 2012 that the government had lied to the World about its preparedness to host United Nations World Tourism Organisation UNWTO.

Hooliganism Ruins Battle Of Zimbabwe

The game between Highlanders and Dynamos was abandoned before the fulltime whistle after chaotic scenes forced two lengthy stoppages.

The first interruption happened at the hour mark and lasted for fifteen minutes after the home team threatened to invade the pitch after Bill Antonio’s challenge left Andrew Tandi with a broken leg.

The incident also saw players and officials from both sides clashing and Antonio received a straight red card.

After the situation calmed, another lengthy stoppage followed when Highlanders took the lead in the 90th minute through Washington Navaya’s header.

The home team’s fans then invaded the pitch celebrating, while Dynamos players surrounded the referee protesting his decision to allow the goal.

The visitors felt there was a foul on Shadreck Nyahwa during the build-up to the goal and another rough challenge on keeper Tymon Mvula, and a free should have been given instead.

Dembare’s supporters on the Mpilo end then joined in and also invaded the pitch. They uprooted the goalposts and tore the nets.

The perimeter fence was also broken.

Players and officials immediately left the pitch and sought sanctuary in the tunnel, causing the play to be suspended.

Dynamos fans then started throwing missiles to the groundsmen who are trying to fix a broken post and this forced the match commissioner to abandon the game.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Sekhukhune FC Boss Eyes Kaitano Tembo

Sekhukhune FC coach MacDonald Makhubedu has confirmed that he approached Kaitano Tembo to join him at the club.

Tembo is currently without a club after he was sacked at SuperSport United last month following a run of unconvincing results.

Speaking to Soccer Laduma, Makhubela revealed that he wanted Tembo to be a co-coach along with him at the club.

The co-coaching system in the Premier Soccer league has become a new trend, with clubs like Mamelodi Sundowns adopting the set-up last year.

The Sekhukhune gaffer said: “I must also state that i was the one who assembled this technical team. No-one imposed them to me, I’m the one who told management what I need and to your surprise that even AmaZulu FC coach Brandon Truter was on his way to join us. He was supposed to come until he was snatched by them (AmaZulu) a day before negotiating with us.

“I’ve been talking to many coaches, even Kaitano Tembo was on the list, when he was (let go) at SuperSport United, I wanted him because I always want to learn. I’m a student of the game.”

Tembo was also linked with the top job at Usuthu ahead of next season.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Rushesha Hit By Another Injury

Zimbabwe-born Tivonge Rushesha has suffered another horrific injury just months after returning from another long spell on the sidelines.

The midfielder has damaged his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) on the other knee and will spent some time again out of action.

He only recovered from a similar injury in September which kept him out for almost a year.

On his return, Rushesha skippered the Swansea development side over much of the 2021-22 campaign and was named the best Academy player at the club’s end of year awards.

Swansea coach Russell Martin confirmed the development and is is hoping the youngster will come back stronger.

“Sadly, Tiv has done his cruciate again, on the other knee,” the Swans boss said.

“It’s so unlucky. He came back brilliantly from the other one, he now needs to digest it, he’s been really upset, obviously.

“He’s had the operation, and hopefully he’s on the mend. It’s just about us getting him in a good place mentally and physically, and just taking his time to get back and making sure he’s right.”- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Auxillia Abuses Authority: Thulani Ndou

By Thulani Ndou | The First Lady of Zimbabwe Auxillia Mnangagwa once again displayed her evil character by using the state apparatus to try to gag Simba Chikanza, a journalist. After she called Chikanza via video call, showing off her expensive property ranging from golden chairs to diamond tables, she ended the call after thirty five odd minutes.
Chikanza was subjected to half an hour of insults, lectures, and repeating self pity blurts that are nothing but abusive. Having failed to cow Chikanza into silence; she then instructed her unconstitutional office to issue a press statement accusing Chikanza of trying to extort an interview from her.

The earlier discussion Chikanza had with Auxillia exposed her character in a way never seen before. She showed off her golden chairs while at the same time threatening Simba with unspecified action if he dares publish the conversation. She threatened him saying, “one day we will meet face to face.”

The issues she distracted the interview relate to her recent deployments of dangerous armed robbers to key national posts: all the country’s State Houses are now under the illegal Directorship of a convicted armed robber who is her own brother, and she this year has furthermore gone ahead to appoint the same armed robber, the paramount King of Mazowe-Chiweshe (Negomo).

She has appointed another armed robber, Delish Nguwaya, to the post of Director of a thieving so called Dutch investor, Mr. Delish Nguwaya, over the Pomona Dumpsite project. How many hospitals can Harare build with the USD14million which Auxillia Mnangagwa is making the city’s ratepayers pay the well known armed robber disguised as a Dutch Investor, Mr. Delish Nguwaya?

Mrs Mnangagwa behaves like she owns the country and everybody in it. Contrary to a press statement issued by Auxilia’s office the conversation was on record. Chikanza is not a friend to Auxilia thus any conversation is always on record.

Auxillia Mnangagwa herself called Chikanza via video on the official newsdesk phone.
Secondly, she broke trust by threatening Simba during the interview. She is known of issuing threats and physically assaulting people especially her staff at the state house and her official residence. It should be known that there has never been any trust between her and the media since the coup, no one has ever been allowed to critique her.
Auxillia has always patronised people using any power close to her.

The liberation struggle in Zimbabwe was fought and won on the impeccable principles of discipline, respect and honour. It is a shame that the First Lady has no honour neither does she have respect for any one. She is stubborn and as a nation we are cursed.

It was as much the firepower, the resilience and the bravery of heroes as it was their honour that triumphed. The same principles and values will sustain the next stage of the growth and development of Zimbabwe. Power, position and the excercise of authority must be hedged with a sense and excercise of responsibility.

Auxillia caused her office to write a press statement saying she was threatened by Simba Chikanza. Simba would swear that he,did not threaten Mrs Auxillia Mnangagwa other than informing her of what is inevitable, as it is standard practice to notify a source of the deadline before a story is published so they can ensure they have contributed fully. Unfortunately Twitter character space doesn’t allow for all these words to be typed. In any case who can threaten a bully who is the First Lady. Her allegations of being threatened are laughable.
Mrs Mnangagwa knows well the issues at stake are beyond the single one that she sites. They, as the video will reveal, also relate to one of armed robbers she has deployed to strategic national positions which placings now endanger the security of millions of Zimbabweans. She has taken over the job of the minister of local government by appointing her brother to be a chief.

This same brother has a criminal conviction of armed robbery. He is now a Director in the state house and a traditional chief. This posting places the people of Zimbabwe in danger.

Auxillia has a duty to tell the people of Zimbabwe “why he put his criminal armed robber brother as a chief and again promoting him to be a Director in the state house. Zimbabwean would want to know with the prevalence in armed Robbery how many armed robbers who are friends to Kutyauripo are being given shelter in the state house.

Auxillia has reduced the respect given to the state house by her uncouth forked tongue.
Mrs Mnangagwa also knowing well that the matter at stake is the ongoing looting of millions of USD’s of Harare ratepayer money, is just being unprofessional and downright criminal.

A series of allegations have been made against Mrs Auxillia Mnangagwa and her terrible twins who are publicly without shame looting the National purse.

The charges against Auxillia range from murder as in the murder of Doug Munatsi to fraud and money laundering. Zimbabweans deserve better.
Obviously it is easy to ask whether any of those are true. However, this is not the purpose of this piece. The purpose of this piece is to underline the fact that those that are linked to leadership position and therefore are in the public eye must be constantly be conscious of the relentless scrutiny on their being and on their behaviour and the characters that they associate with. This includes spouses of political and government leaders. They carry an immense responsibility to ensure that their conduct, actual or perceived, does not attract avoidable smear to themselves, to their spouses and to the government.
It should be mentioned that showing Auxillia’s house was no threat but just a stating of the conclusions the public will reach when they notice that her claim that she ‘sells tomatoes for a living’, totally contradicts the 24 karat golden chair she is sitting on. The video shows jewellery and other expensive things in the interior of the house, which threatens her image as an honest person.

Simba is fully aware that he must follow the rule that you have to seek to protect your source’s dignity and wellbeing, before your own. But Auxillia’s dignity can not override the need to protect the public from unprecedented corruption.

Clearly the press statement by Mrs Mnangagwa has not covered herself in glory by speaking as she did to Simba Chikanza.
She has not helped herself by associating with characters which are dubious including her robbery convict brother.

Roman Catholic Church Plunged Into Mourning

By A Correspondent- The Roman Catholic Church has been plunged into mourning following the death of prominent Bishop Emeritus Martin Munyanyi Sunday morning.

He was 66.

The towering cleric of the Diocese of Gweru collapsed and died at his Shurugwi house under yet unclear circumstances.

Gweru Diocese’s vicar-general, Reverend Father Simon Mavhiya confirmed Munyanyi’s passing on.

To all priests, religious brothers and sisters and all the lay faithfuls, dear brethren, my dear brothers and sisters in the Lord it is with a heavy heart to announce to you the sudden passing on of Bishop Emeritus Martin Munyanyi of Gweru Diocese, who collapsed and died at his home in Shurugwi,” said Rev Mavhiya.

Pope Benedict XVI in May 2006 appointed Munyanyi the new Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Gweru.

He succeeded the late Bishop Francis Xavier Mugadzi as bishop of the more than 196 000 Catholics in the Diocese of Gweru.

Munyanyi was born on January 3, 1956, in the Bikita district, Masvingo province then in the Diocese of Gweru.

Sunningdale Pastor Assaulted, Stripped

By A Correspondent- A Sunningdale pastor was yesterday assaulted and stripped over bedding two sisters during a church service.

Pastor Grayton Sixpence, 33, of the Apostolic Faith Mission in Zimbabwe, had to be rushed into a vehicle n_ked.

He was attacked by two women; Lebani Ncube and her unidentified sister.

The man of cloth was reported to have turned his Warren Park-rented room into a s_x haven where he was bedding several female congregants.

Lebani, popularly known as Mbana, told H-Metro her decision to attack Pastor Sixpence came after she found out he had been bedding her two daughters  Shylet, 20, and Tatenda, 18.

“Akajaidzwa Pastor Sixpence,” said Mbana.

“He has a record of bedding female congregants and has now done it to the wrong family.

“He has been dating Tatenda and he went on to seduce her sister Shylet and the two admitted to being s_xually abused by him.

Ndamuendera pachurch ipapo ndikamurova chaizvo ndikabvarura nguwo dzake dzose akazotiziswa nasenior pastor vakanomuisa kumba kwavo.

“I could not let him continue to s_xually abuse my daughters using the word of God, never.

“He is free to lodge a police report against me if he so wishes.

“The senior pastor took us for counselling and promised to deal with Sixpence,” said Mbana.

The church service continued while Pastor Sixpence was at his senior pastor’s house.

Pastor Sixpence refused to entertain H-Metro for his side of the story.

However, Pastor Bhosha confirmed the incident promising to furnish this publication with details after consulting other church elders.

Pastor Sixpence was yet to be given an assembly to lead after graduating in theology at Living Waters Bible College.

ZIMSEC’s 2021 Markers Yet To Be Paid

The Zimbabwe Schools Examination Council (ZIMSEC) is yet to pay some examiners who marked the 2021 Ordinary and Advanced Level examinations, several months after they completed the exercise.

In previous years, the markers would receive their dues soon after completing the tasks or before the release of the results.

One of the affected markers who spoke to NewsDay on condition of anonymity said:

It appears ZIMSEC is no longer concerned about our payments because the results are already out.

We signed our contracts early this year and the value of the funds has been depreciating over the months.

ZIMSEC should review our allowances in view of the rise in the cost of living.

This is to ensure that we benefit from the actual value.

ZIMSEC spokesperson Nicholette Dlamini said the examinations body was still processing the payments.

She, however, said the examiners will be paid according to what was agreed regardless of the depreciation of the local currency. Said Dlamini:

Examination markers are being paid, so I am not sure which markers are claiming that they have not been paid.

At the moment, ZIMSEC is in the process of depositing the funds into the examiners’ accounts, which started this week and the process will be complete by the end of this week.

In terms of the difference due to deprecation, I cannot comment on that. We will pay them according to what we agreed.

As for their grievances, they know our structures and how to present them.

Zimbabwe Teachers Association (ZIMTA) secretary-general Goodwill Taderera said some markers received their payments from ZIMSEC last week but the money had already lost its value.

Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (PTUZ) secretary-general Raymond Majongwe accused ZIMSEC of trivialising the importance of teachers.

Meanwhile, NewsDay reported insiders as saying ZIMSEC is struggling with finances hence its failure to pay the markers on time.-newsday

Teachers Plead For Week Long Compassionate Leave

The Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ) has asked its members to apply for a week-long compassionate leave for them to handle various personal issues brought by financial incapacitation.

In a statement, ARTUZ president Obert Masaraure said that Public Service regulations provide for compassionate leave for civil servants. Part of the statement read:

Section 41(g) of the Public Service Regulations provides for fully paid special leave of up to 12 days per year for any justifiable compassionate grounds.

Teacher incapacitation has birthed multiple challenges which ordinarily draw sympathy from any normal human being.

On Monday (today), teachers should file applications for compassionate leave citing the particular issues they are handling, school fees, rentals, hospital bills, and any other challenge which attracts sympathy from the supervisor. The leave should last up to May 20.

Zimbabwe Teachers Association (ZIMTA) president Richard Gundane urged the Government to address teachers’ incapacitation as a matter of urgency. He said:

We would like the government to urgently pay decent salaries in keeping with the poverty line and inflation.

Low salaries trigger incapacitation and reduce productivity. Educators must be motivated and adequately supported.

Teachers and other civil servants want the Government to restore their pre-October 2018 salary of US$540 per month.

If Putin Dies, Who Takes Over, Patrushev, or The Man Who Humiliated Mnangagwa?

Russian President, Vladimir Putin is said to be planning to temporarily hand over power to undergo surgery amid suggestions of ill health. The Russian President is alleged to have cancer or some other debilitating illness, according to leaks from the Kremlin via encrypted messaging services. If that happens, the Express projects that the person who replaces him is right-hand man, Nikolai Patrushev.

Other papers suggest, Dmitry Medvedev (Deputy Chair of the Security Council and Former President). Medvedev is famous for humiliating Zimbabwean despot, Emmerson Mnangagwa in Jan 2019 at the height of the latter’s govt crackdowns against demonstrators, when he subtily said Russia would never give Mnangagwa money.

Wrote Medvedev on his personal portal, when he was Prime Minister ans on the day Mnangagwa had landed in that country: “The Government is using various instruments to prevent unjustified fuel price hikes in Russia. But we never promised to make up for other countries’ revenue shortfalls, even such close neighbours as Belarus.”

Medvedev, a St Petersburg-born lawyer, was President of Russia between 2008 and 2012 and was elected on a promise of making Putin his Prime Minister which he promptly did. When Putin took power again in 2012, he returned the favour by gifting Medvedev the role of Prime Minister.

Other analysts, predict the replacement will be Mikhail Vladimirovich Mishustin who is an economist currently serving as the prime minister since 16 January 2020. He previously served as the director of the Federal Taxation Service from 2010 to 2020.

Other papers suggest one, Sergei Kuzhugetovich Shoigu, an army general who has served as the minister of defence of Russia since 2012, and has served as the chairman of the Council of Ministers of Defense of the Commonwealth of Independent States since 2012.

D-Mbare , Bosso Match Ends In Chaos

By- The match between Dynamos and Highlanders was abandoned after violence had broken out.

The match was being played at Barbourfields Stadium on Sunday.

The high stakes match was disrupted by crowd trouble on two separate occasions in the second half.

The first lengthy stoppage, which lasted for 15 minutes, occurred in the 60th minute when Dynamos striker Bill Antonio’s challenge left Andrew Tandi with a broken leg.

Despite Antonio being shown a straight red card, players and officials from both sides clashed following the tackle.

The second stoppage occurred when Highlanders took the lead in the 93rd minute through Washington Navaya’s header.

Bosso fans stormed the pitch to celebrate the goal while Dynamos players surrounded the referee, protesting his decision to allow the goal.

Dynamos players were arguing that Shadreck Nyahwa and goalkeeper Timon Mvula were fouled during the build-up to the goal.

As the melee unfolded on the pitch, DeMbare fans invaded the pitch, uprooting the goalposts and tearing the nets.

Speaking during ZTN’s coverage of the game, former CAPS United captain David Sengu blamed Dynamos players for causing the chaos. Said Sengu:

Do we need to be known because of violence whenever these two sides meet?

They were playing entertaining football, but the fans will make the headlines more than the players on the pitch at the end of the day.

The players are to blame for these incidents because they are the ones who are causing the chaos.

The moment you start confronting the referee, the fans get agitated. If it’s not a foul, you should admit it.

If there is no whistle blown, continue to play football.

Sengu added that both Nyahwa and Dynamos goalkeeper Taimon Mvula were wrong to claim they were injured in the build-up to the Highlanders goal. He said:

The goalkeeper has the advantage of using his hands. Mvula never tried to catch the ball because he wanted a foul.

Why did Nyahwa remain on the floor (after losing the ball) when the referee didn’t blow his whistle?

When Highlanders scored their goal, he quickly rose and protested to the referee.

I thought he should have stood up, continued playing, and do the confrontation later.

Captain Jaure is the one who should talk to the referee, not any other players, but you can’t complain about every decision made.

Mnangagwa Plot To Hoodwink Chiefs Exposed

Tinashe Sambiri|President Nelson Chamisa’s CCC has accused Mr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa of hoodwinking traditional leaders with trinkets.

Zanu PF is known for using traditional leaders to intimidate villagers.

CCC spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere has challenged Mr Mnangagwa to stop abusing traditional leaders.

See below article published by NewsDay:

The opposition Citizens Coalition Change (CCC) leader, Nelson Chamisa, yesterday accused ZANU PF of trying to buy the loyalty of traditional leaders ahead of the 2023 general elections.

This comes as the government is planning to review traditional leaders’ allowances, put them on medical aid, service their vehicles and allocate them fuel, to cushion them against economic turbulences.

CCC spokesperson, Fadzayi Mahere, accused the ruling party of trying to bribe chiefs. She said:

We condemn this brazen attempt to buy the loyalty of chiefs with trinkets. We respect the role and importance of traditional leaders but we are opposed to them being used to participate in partisan politics.

Traditional leaders must be non-partisan and put the interests of the citizens they lead ahead of any partisan agenda.

Chapter 15.2 of the Constitution forbids traditional leaders from being members of any political party or in any way participating in partisan politics.

Traditional leaders have faced accusations of being ZANU PF appendages with Chiefs Council president Fortune Charumbira openly declaring his allegiance to the ruling party.

But Zanu PF director of information Tafadzwa Mugwadi said the ruling party does not believe in bribing people to vote for it adding, “Our secret to victory is servant leadership and development.”

Last year, Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga warned chiefs that they risked being stripped of their positions for criticising the ZANU PF government.

Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe president Obert Masaraure said the government should also show the same zeal to improve the welfare of civil servants.

Citizens Need To Be Rescued From Zanu PF Oppression

Remember the Oppressed!

By Gift Ostallos Siziba

Our struggle is against a historically evolved system of oppression, that holds our people in bondage, for the benefit of a small minority( that is the capitalist minority and the reactionary forces of the middle class)
That is what we are up against!

Our task is to create a society that works for the many, not the few.

To have a society that provides a conducive environment for the poor to thrive.

A society where talent and skill pays and not connections and privilege.

A society that places the citizen back at the centre of decision making.

Now that society requires a committed, genuine and authentic leadership.

It needs reformers, doers and selfless compatriots motivated by the agenda to see genuine change in our country.

Our people have suffered far too long.

I have no doubt in my mind that President Nelson Chamisa has passed the test of such leadership.

Now the task in our shoulders is to build such leadership qualities and culture from below.

Happy weekend fellow countrymen.

Effective Malaria Control Methods

As World Malaria Day approaches, more than 1 million children in Ghana, Kenya and Malawi have received one or more doses of the world’s first malaria vaccine, thanks to a pilot programme coordinated by WHO. The malaria vaccine pilots, first launched by the Government of Malawi in April 2019, have shown that the RTS,S/AS01 (RTS,S) vaccine is safe and feasible to deliver, and that it substantially reduces deadly severe malaria.

These findings paved the way for the historic October 2021 WHO recommendation for the expanded use of RTS,S among children living in settings with moderate to high malaria transmission. If widely deployed, WHO estimates that the vaccine could save the lives of an additional 40 000 to 80 000 African children each year.

More than US$ 155 million has been secured from Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance to support the introduction, procurement and delivery of the malaria vaccine for Gavi-eligible countries in sub-Saharan Africa.

WHO guidance is available to countries as they consider whether and how to adopt RTS,S as an additional tool to reduce child illness and deaths from malaria.

“As a malaria researcher in my early career, I dreamed of the day we would have an effective vaccine against this devastating disease,” said Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General. “This vaccine is not just a scientific breakthrough, it’s life-changing for families across Africa. It demonstrates the power of science and innovation for health. Even so, there is an urgent need to develop more and better tools to save lives and drive progress towards a malaria-free world.”

Prospects for new interventions
RTS,S is a first-generation vaccine that could be complemented in the future by other vaccines with similar or higher efficacy. WHO welcomes progress in the development of R21/Matrix-M and other malaria vaccine candidates in early clinical development. The successful completion of clinical trials for these vaccines will be important to assess their safety and efficacy profiles. WHO also welcomes the news from BioNTech, manufacturer of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine, that it aims to develop a malaria vaccine using mRNA technology.

In the field of vector control, a number of new tools and technologies have been submitted to WHO for evaluation. Should they demonstrate efficacy in controlling the disease, WHO will formulate new recommendations or amend existing ones to support their deployment. These include, for example, new types of insecticide-treated nets, spatial mosquito repellents, gene-drive approaches and sugar baits designed to attract and kill Anopheles mosquitoes.

There are also new medicines in the pipeline. WHO welcomes the recent approval by the Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration of dispersible tablets of single-dose tafenoquine for the prevention of P. vivax malaria among children. Tafenoquine has also been approved for use in adults by the US Federal Drug Administration and by drug regulatory bodies in other countries, including Brazil, Peru and Thailand. As a single dose, tafenoquine is expected to support patient adherence to treatment. The current standard of care requires a 7- or 14-day course of medication.

A number other antimalarial medicines with new modes of action are being developed for the treatment of uncomplicated and severe malaria. Ganaplacide-Lumefantrine, currently in a Phase II clinical trial, is the first non-artemisinin combination therapy and could be an asset in fight against emerging drug-resistant malaria in Africa.

In addition to drug resistance, WHO has reported other pressing threats in the fight against malaria, such as mosquito resistance to insecticides, an invasive malaria vector that thrives in urban and rural areas, and the emergence and spread of mutated P. falciparum parasites that are undermining the effectiveness of rapid diagnostic tests. Innovation in tools and strategies will be critical to contain these threats, together with a more strategic use of the tools that are available today.

More investment needed
According to the 2021 World malaria report, global progress in reducing malaria cases and deaths has slowed or stalled in recent years, particularly in countries hardest hit by the disease. The report notes the need for continued innovation in the research and development of new tools if the world is to achieve the 2030 targets of the WHO malaria strategy.

Funding for malaria-related research and development reached just over US$ 619 million in 2020. An average annual R&D investment of US$ 851 million will be needed in the period 2021–2030.

Making better use of the tools we have now
Reaching global malaria targets will also require innovations in the way that currently available tools are deployed. Through the “ High burden to high impact” approach, launched by WHO and the RBM Partnership to End Malaria in 2018, countries hardest hit by malaria have been collecting and analysing malaria data to better understand the geographical spread of the disease.

Instead of applying the same approach to malaria control everywhere, they are considering the potential impact of tailored packages of interventions informed by local data and the local disease setting.

These analyses will enable countries to use available funds in a more effective, efficient and equitable way.

Al Jazeera Reporter Funeral Procession Attacked

EFF CONDEMNS THE INHUMANE ISRAEL APARTHEID STATE FOR ATTACKING THE FUNERAL PROCESSION OF AL JAZEERA JOURNALIST SHEREEN ABU AQLA

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) condemns the sadistic, cruel. and genocidal Israeli Apartheid State, for attacking the funeral procession of Al Jazeera journalist Shereen Abu Aqla, who they assassinated for her uncompromising coverage of the oppression of Palestinian people.

In a complete disregard of the memory of Abu Acila. and a display of the evil nature of the Israeli forces, Palestinians who were carrying the coffin of Shereen Aqla were beaten with batons. to the point of almost dropping her lifeless body to the floor.

The Israeli State is a sick, fascist and inhumane regime, whose actions are beginning to eclipse even those of the Apartheid state.
The patience that the world has with the brutality of Israel has led these Zionist maniacs to believe they are untouchable. to the point where they no longer care about the public image of a peaceful state they have been trying to push for decades of their illegal occupation of Palestinian land.

The EFF calls for South Africa to expel the Israeli ambassador and permanently close the Israeli embassy for this heinous act. It is clear we are dealing with an evil regime which is beyond negotiation or amicable solutions.

The Israeli State must be isolated, deprived of economic relations with the rest of the world, and subjected to the sanctions that are so easily imposed on socialist countries The continued silence of the United Nations. African Union and the so-called liberal press in the face of the murder of journalists and the beating up of people in mosques and funerals is shameful.

Israel is an evil state, which must be destroyed as a matter of urgency! History will judge us all, should we allow the cruelty of Israel to continue without intervention and condemnation.

Elephants Kill 35

The Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (ZIMPARKS) has reported that a man was killed by an elephant in Victoria Falls last night.

ZIMPARKS spokesperson, Tinashe Farawo, made the announcement this Saturday encouraging members of the public to minimise movements during the night. He said:

It is with great sadness that a man was killed by an elephant in Vic Falls last night. So far 35 people have been killed in Human-Wildlife Conflict (HWC) across the country. ZIMPARKS encourages communities to minimize movements at night, do not provoke them, and give them space.

He added that 35 people have been killed in HWC this year while more than 60 people were killed last year.

Early this week, two elephants that had been found loitering in Chiteni Village under Chief Ndanga, Zaka, were shot and killed by the Zimparks after villagers reported the matter to the police. The meat was given to the villagers, according to Information Secretary, Nick Mangwana.

Scott Sakupwanya Throws ED’s ‘Bloody Scarf’ Around Floyd Mayweather’s Neck

Emmerson Mnangagwa ‘s gold runner, Scott Sakupwanya has flung the murder obsessed despot’s scarf around world boxer Floyd Mayweather’s neck, before luring him to Zimbabwe to look for so called business opportunities.

Mayweather Jr is now expected to visit the country for investment opportunities, the Herald speculates.

Scott with Floyd Mayweather

Mr Mnangagwa’s agents have for years since the Nov 2017 coup earned a bad name for abusing well known celebrities for the purpose of creating political photoshoots.

At the COP26 Climate Change Conference in Nov 2021, Mnangagwa’s agents were caught on camera coercing Scottish homeless people to wear the ZANU PF scarf, just for picture shows.

The American boxer met the Zanu-PF Harare Ward 21 councillor over the weekend in Dubai where he is on business, the Herald reports.

Mayweather was with his former sparring partner Don Moore and were scheduled for their exhibition fight which was later cancelled last minute following the death of Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of the United Arab Emirates.

Mayweather was due to face Moore in front of just 20 VIP fans on the helipad of the Burj Al Arab Jumeirah hotel in Dubai, on Saturday.

The contest would have marked Mayweather’s third exhibition fight since retiring from professional boxing in 2017.

Following the death of Sheikh Khalifa, the UAE will observe 40 days of mourning – beginning last week Friday – with all work in the country’s public and private sectors cancelled for the first three days of that period.

Yesterday the social media went agog with images and videos of Sakupwanya with the boxing celebrities. Sakupwanya confirmed that he was in Dubai for a series of meetings with potential investors.

“I am here on a business trip to interact with various investors and particularly on a special invitation by Floyd Mayweather himself to watch his boxing match,” he said.

“Unfortunately, the match was cancelled and now we are busy with business. We have been close friends for a long time and I came to finalize my official appointment as his brand ambassador for Africa.

“I have invited him and he agreed to visit Zimbabwe hopefully before the end of the year. He intends to invest in Africa with Zimbabwe being one of his main destinations of interest,” he said.

Violence Rocks D-Mbare , Bosso Match

Responding To Auxillia Mnangagwa’s Blackmail Claim | FULL TEXT

By Simba Chikanza | A story was published in the state run Herald newspaper in which Emmerson Mnangagwa’s wife, Auxillia made allegations against my work.

Simba Chikanza

I respond to her allegations in the following briefer:

For the record: this was NOT an off record, in fact the FL called me via video herself on the official newsdesk phone.
2ndly, she broke trust by threatening me during the interview.

Auxillia Mnangagwa’s press statement

3rdly, there has never been any trust between her and the media since the coup, no one has ever been allowed to critique her.

4thly, I did not threaten Mrs Auxillia Mnangagwa other than informing her of what is inevitable, as it is standard practice to notify a source of the deadline before a story is published so they can ensure they have contributed fully. Unfortunately Twitter character space doesn’t allow for all these words to be typed.

5thly, Mrs Mnangagwa knows well the issues at stake are beyond the single one that she cites. They, as the video reveal, also relate to one of armed robbers she has deployed to strategic national positions which placings now endanger the security of millions of Zimbabweans.

6thly, Mrs Mnangagwa also knowing well that the matter at stake is the ongoing looting of millions of USD’s of Harare ratepayer money, is just being unprofessional and I contend, downright criminal

7thly, my mention of Auxillia’s house was no threat but just a stating of the conclusions the public will reach when they notice that her claim that she ‘sells tomatoes for a living’, totally contradicts the 24 karat golden chair she is sitting on. The video shows jewellery and other expensive things in the interior of the house, which thing threatens her image as an honest person. I follow the rule that you have to seek to protect your source’s dignity and wellbeing, before your own.

Tinashe Sambiri|Citizens’ Coalition For Change leader President Nelson Chamisa has described the late veteran trade unionist Enock Mtisi Gwayagwaya as a democracy and workers’ rights champion.

President Chamisa wrote on Twitter:

CCC Confronts Mnangagwa Over Attempt To Buy Chiefs’ Loyalty

New Malaria Control Strategies

Citizens Have Suffered For Too Long

Serima Area Rocked By Grisly Murder Cases

Thusanani Oryx

Gutu-Murder cases are escalating in Gutu West constituency the latest victim being Rutendo Chikwinya from ward 6 headman Jinjika in Chikerema village.

Only identified as Perai reportedly told his relatives that he was going to Chatsworth Police station to report that he had killed Rutendo before eloping.

It is alleged that her father killed her in cold blood in the act of disciplining her.

Girl was at Bath Secondary, and she was rescuing her mother who was beaten by her father.

The father allegedly chased the girl assaulted her to death.

Sources said he noticed that the child had died and asked his wife to help him carry the deceased into the kitchen.

This gruesome incident comes barely months when Chiriga community witnessed another murder case still in the courts.
As that was not enough, another Form 4 from Kanongovere High School was reportedly killed by her grandmother in the disguise of disciplining her.
Ironically, most of the perpetrators of these murders are elderly people some over 80 years old on teenagers.
Social media platforms have been awash with villagers from the area expressing shock.
“The murderer deserves to be incarcerated at Chikurubi Maximum Prison.
“For sure ZR Police are having a torrid time attending to murder cases in this area” said angry villagers.

Married Man Flees After Steamy Homosexual Romp Pics Leak On Social Media

By A Correspondent| Tungamirai Matongo (27), a man from Waterfalls in Harare allegedly went into hiding recently after intimate pictures of him and another man Nigel Mabhiza Chihobvu (29) leaked on social media.

The two stayed in the same neighbourhood of Waterfalls and Matongo is legally married to Tatenda Zuze (25).

It is suspected that the two have been dating clandestinely ever-since Matongo’s legal wife Zuze went to study abroad up until their steamy pictures surfaced online.

In some of the pics, there two can be seen frolicking naked, wearing wigs and high heels as well as other women range of lingerie.

Now, fellow residents of Waterfalls have not taken this lightly and they have recruited the family of Matongo’s alleged boyfriend Mabhiza Chihobvu to administer street justice to Matongo.

Our source says they group says it wants to remove the homosexuality in him (Matongo).

On Friday the 13th of May around the 6th hour of the night, the community vigilante group is said to have gone to Matongo’s place to institute what it termed as remedial action to Tungamirai.

The alert Matongo got wind of the plot, but it was a bit too late as he was severely beaten but managed to escape.

It is said sympathisers momentarily gave embattled Matongo sanctuary, but the vigilante group is not yet done with him.

The group is accusing Matongo of recruiting men into homosexuality as he did with Chihobvu and they have declared him a societal undesirable element.

Matongo’s story is not unusual.

Strict laws against homosexuality are embraced by Zimbabwe.

The country’s long-time hardman the late Robert Mugabe, infamously once compared gays to pigs and dogs.

During a 2015 speech at the U.N. Genral Assembly, he lashed out at the world body for trying to force gay rights reforms on Zimbabwe.

A 2006 revision to the country’s criminal code expands the penalty for sodomy to include acts that “would be regarded by a reasonable person as an indecent act.”

This could include two men holding hands, hugging, or kissing and could carry an extended prison term.

And Zimbabwe is not alone.

Homosexuality is outlawed in 35 African countries and punishable by death in two countries, Mauritania, and Sudan, as well as in areas of Somalia and Nigeria and Uganda according to Amnesty International U.K.

Mnangagwa Torments Musengezi

Tinashe Sambiri|Zanu PF man Sybeth Musengezi who is challenging Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa’s legitimacy has been hauled to court for allegedly acquiring a party card fraudulently.

Musengezi argues Mr Mnangagwa illegally rose to power following the removal of Robert Mugabe from power via a military coup.

According to a NewsDay report Musengezi, a former Zanu PF youth league member, appeared in court on Friday.

See NewsDay article below:
…Represented by Doug Coltart and Nqobani Sithole, Sybeth Musengezi appeared before Harare magistrate Yeukai Dzuda and was remanded in custody to today for bail hearing.

The State said Musengezi used various addresses to fraudulently obtain a Zanu PF card and contest the party’s elections.

“The other address which the accused submitted did not exist. There is another address in Budiriro which the accused used, but it was confirmed that the accused did not reside there,” the State submitted.

“Musengezi’s homestead in Mt Darwin was another address which was used and following investigations we discovered that the accused never resided there….”

There are six witnesses in the case, the State said.

The State averred that Musengezi was a bad candidate for bail because he had business interests outside the country and was likely to flee.

The court heard that as a result of the misrepresentation, Musengezi fraudulently became a member of that district.

The State also alleges that in 2019 the accused again connived with Mutimbanyoka and misrepresented that he Musengezi, was a cell member of Zanu PF’s Mai Chitepo branch (Muzinda 1 district) and that he resided at house number 4461 Hatcliffe Extension, Harare.

As a result of the misrepresentation, Musengezi became eligible to contest for a Zanu PF branch post.

Anesu Chirenje prosecuted.
