Biden Throws Mnangagwa Under The Bus

By A Correspondent-The United States government has said president Joe Biden did not have a scheduled meeting with President Emmerson Mnangagwa during the COP26 Leaders’ Summit held in Glasgow, Scotland.
Upon returning from the summit, Mnangagwa chronicled his meetings with world leaders including Biden, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and EU council president Charles Michel.
He claimed that during the meetings, he pressed the leaders to remove sanctions. He said:
I had an opportunity to chat with President Joe Biden and the spirit which he has towards Zimbabwe is totally different from what we see from the US Embassy in Harare.
In fact, he called a staffer and said ‘please make sure that I have a chat with the President’ (referring to President Mnangagwa).

In e-mailed responses to the Independent, a US State Department spokesperson said Mnangagwa and Biden had nothing short of a brief encounter during a reception. Said the spokesperson:
President Biden did not have a scheduled meeting with President Mnangagwa during the COP26 Leaders’ Summit held in Glasgow, Scotland. They did interact briefly at a reception.
The US State Department shot down Mnangagwa’s claim that the US embassy in Harare’s views on Zimbabwe were not representative of Washington. Added the spokesperson:

Under the direction of the President and Secretary of State, the Chief of Mission serves as the President’s highest-ranking representative to a specific nation or international organisation abroad.
The responsibilities of the Chief of Mission include pursuing and explaining US policy in the country where they serve. The United States shares the same fundamental interests as the Zimbabwean people: a stable, peaceful, democratic Zimbabwe that reflects the people’s will and provides for their needs.
The spokesperson said the easing of restrictive measures, including sanctions and visa restrictions, will only occur following reforms including credible, transparent, and lasting democratic reforms.

The spokesperson reiterated that Zimbabwe’s economic ills are caused by leaders abusing power and misdirecting public funds to their private accounts, not US sanctions.
Harare and Washington have had a tumultuous relationship since 2001 when the global power enacted the Zimbabwe Democracy and Economic Recovery Act (ZIDERA) following a chaotic land redistribution programme in 2000, which displaced over 3 500 white former commercial farmers.
After taking over the reins in 2017, Mnangagwa pledged to pursue a re-engagement exercise to bring Zimbabwe back into the international community.

ED Drunk Video, Journalists In Trouble

By A Correspondent- State security agents have warned journalists against using mobile phones to take videos or pictures of President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
This comes after a video of the President, who was captured appearing drunk at a fundraising dinner at State House last week, was leaked and went viral on social media platforms.

Addressing the media on Thursday outside the Parliament Building, a state security detail who only identified himself as Raymond, said scribes should know that the “sword is mightier than the pen”. Raymond said:

We know that there are rules and regulations wherever we go. Even when dealing with the President, there are certain pictures that you are not supposed to capture, and some you are allowed to.
They say the pen is mightier than the sword, but I still believe the sword is mightier, and here we have our swords and if we decide to unleash them, things may not end well for you.

One journalist who had reportedly captured Mnangagwa disembarking from his official ZIM 1 vehicle was pulled from the media crew gathered and ordered to delete all the pictures he had captured.
President Mnangagwa was at the Parliament Building for the presentation of the 2022 national budget statement by Finance and Economic Development Minister Mthuli Ncube.
Meanwhile, last week presidential spokesperson George Charamba dismissed claims that the President was inebriated, saying he only takes alcohol in the first six months of the year, a routine drinking habit he has observed for over forty years.

Gwanda Woman & Boyfriend Caught Pants Down, Run Naked

By A Correspondent- A married woman from Tsholotsho’s area of Mapengula was on 21 November busted by her husband having sex with another man after the husband came home unannounced from South Africa.

The husband, Simon Mpofu (38), had been tipped off by one of the villagers that his wife, Mkhiwa Ndlovu (35), had a boyfriend.
Mpofu waited for nightfall before he made his way home, where he found his wife in bed with another man in their bedroom.
Out of fear and disgrace, Mkhiwa and her boyfriend ran away naked.
They were spotted by villagers at Tsholotsho Business Centre running in different directions.
In a fit of rage, a furious Mpofu engaged people to talk with his father-in-law Gibson Ndlovu to see how he can compensate him for the damage caused by his daughter and pay him back the Lobola he had paid.
“ I don’t want to fight. I bought donkeys and a cart that I was safe-keeping at my in-laws. I want my property back. I also want them to repay me the lobola I paid for their daughter to end this chapter.
“My wife ran away and I don’t know where she is, so the father has to compensate me because she is his daughter,” said Mpofu.
Since the farming season has arrived Ndlovu feels punished by his son-in-law for demanding his belongings.
“Every year I use these donkeys to farm and I don’t know what will become of me this year this means I will be left with nothing and it seems next year I won’t reap anything,” said Ndlovu.

Robbers Attack Fawcett Cash Transit Crew, Grab US$335 000

By A Correspondent- A Fawcett Security cash-in-transit team Thursday lost US$334 290 to robbers who mounted a fake roadblock donning police uniforms near Connemara along the Gweru-Kwekwe Highway.

Police said the robbers mounted a mini-road block just after Connemara and stopped the cash-in-transit vehicle which was on its way from Bulawayo heading for Harare.
“After stopping the vehicle one of the robbers who was armed with an AK rifle introduced himself as a police sergeant before ordering the driver to disembark. Two other robbers who were armed with pistols got into the vehicle and diverted it into a gravel road before stopping,” said the police source.
The source said three more robbers armed with AK rifles emerged and disarmed the Fawcett team members, tied their hands and covered their faces with cloths.
“They then forcefully opened the back of the car and took $334,290 cash before disappearing.”
National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the heist and investigations were underway.

New Twist To Botswana Citizens Of Indians Accused Of Funding Chamisa

By A Correspondent- Botswana citizens of Indian origins said recent reports that they are funding opposition leader Nelson Chamisa’s nationwide campaigns are false and malicious.

The investors said these false accusations came from a named Army general who wanted to tarnish their image.

Below is the Press statement by Botswana investors in Bradfix inc:

We the Above Botswana Foreign investors and Majority Shareholders of Bradfix incorporated inc, do hereby state, that we are being victimized, intimidated, robbed of our investment rights, lied to, kept away from income and expense reports, plus production information. We are barred, kept away from visiting the mine on our own as Majority 60 % Shareholders, False and Malicious information is relayed to the gold mobilization squad in particular to a certain Colonel Dhlamini and Mr Shumba, some C.I.O. personnel and some C.I.D. police officers some of whom, seem to be bribed and used to make us be seen as Fugitives or Undesirable people ( persona non grata) By Our Zimbabwean Partners Namely Mr Ragin Kassim, his wife Chipo Machona Kassim 40 % Shareholders and their Nephew Onias Maguta with others Mr Wellington Murangariri, Maxwell Musvipa, , Zvidzai Tawa, Mike chirindo, who are staff at the mine and all belong to End time church based in Mashava. Mr Onias Maguta being one of the chief architects, with Mr Ragin Kassim conspire, fabricate, engineer, manipulate, outright lies, in order to put us in a bad light, while they unjustly loot and plunder the production of the mine, to greedily enrich themselves, with more than 15 personal vehicle’s belonging to Mr Ragin Kassim and big houses bought for himself and his Pastor, it must be remembered that Mr Ragin Kassim had not even Usd 100 in March of 2020, yet today he boasts of incredible wealth, over 15 vehicle’s, houses in Masvingo and Harare, house boat in the Zambezi river, A CIP ( carbon in pulp ) plant at his family’s farm in Mashava etc. When we ask for production, and Fidelity Reports, we are shunned, when we ask Mr Ragin Kassim and Mr Onias Maguta to submit Anual returns to Zimra, in order to get tax clearance certificate, they wish to submit nil returns, while we have production. They are not interested in paying taxes to Zimra, when asked to get a tax clearance certificate in order to open a bank account, and to renew ZIDA ( Zimbabwe investment Development Agency) we are not heard, therefore no bank account, no ability to renew our ZIDA licence. We have learned through a minuted report of a meeting with the Gold Mobilization Unit, held with Management on the mining site in February 2021, That block 8470 was not transferred to our company Bradfix inc as per the M.O.A. ( Memorandum Of Agreement ) signed in 2013 between Ragin Kassim and Ourselves, despite 95 % of our investment machinery, equipment and infrastructure placed on the block 8470 by Kassim, this is open and clear Fraud by Ragin Kassim and a violation of the signed Agreement. We applied for an Urgent interdict at the High court of Masvingo March/April 2021 despite the Extreme Urgency of the matter the Judge, ruled not Urgent. This is very Dubios, irregular and places the Judiciary in question. Incidentally the very lawyer Mr Makaus, based in Masvingo, who drew the Memorandum of Agreement for both parties, was the same lawyer who represented Ragin Kassim and Chipo Machona Kassim, this is a direct Confict of Interest by Mr Makaus. Mr Shumba and Colonel Dhlamini have been questioning our freinds in Masvingo falsely alleging we are Mozambican insurgents, plotting to bring about insurgentcy in Zimbabwe, later we are made aware of articles in the media falsely alleging that we are funding Mr Chamisa’s political campaign, The questions are , what do we have to with Mozambique, what do we have to do with creating insurgency and the meddling in the internal politics of Zimbabwe, the answer is none, We have invested in Zimbabwe purely for business, and not for any political or instability reasons whatsoever. Our Partners namely Ragin Kassim, Chipo Machona Kassim and the Chief Architect Onias Maguta are hell bent on tarnishing our names, in order for us not to be allowed entry into Zimbabwe, So that they Loot, steal, rob our hard earned investment in the mine, by bribing misleading state agencies and departments, who must also be thoroughly investigated. His Exellency The President of the Republic of Zimbabwe has made some declarations, that Foreign investors are welcome and protected, and that Zimbabwe is open for business, Yet there are those that directly oppose and challenge His Excellencies call, and must be brought and prosecuted by the full extend of the law, for undermining and bringing negative reactions of investors to Zimbabwe, by the likes of Ragin Kassim, Chipo Machona Kassim and Chief Architect in this here matter Onias Maguta, who incidentally is also a teacher holding two jobs. We pray pray for Absolute Justice, free from corruption and injustice. Suffice to say there is more to say, we reserve the right to comment further at a later stage.

ZEC’s Behavior Shocking: Pressure Group

A local elections lobby group, the Zimbabwe Election Advocacy Trust has expressed concern over the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission’s move to suspend voter registration blitz saying the decision is capricious and calamitous.

In a statement yesterday, ZEAT said;

ZEC’s unilateral suspension of voter registration blitz which was scheduled to take place next month is very capricious and calamitous. Voter registration is very key as it affords citizens their fundamental rights and also determine delimitation outcomes. We are shocked by this unbecoming behavior ZEC is exhibiting. The reasons they are giving are frivolous and vexatious and only confirm that they are indeed not an honest election broker. Election management must be conducted professionally and cordially. In equal measure we take this opportunity to express our displeasure on the Ministry of Finance’s poor funding of important State institutions like ZEC and Registrar’s office. Such induced deficiency is shrinking democratic space and acts against the constitution.

Zim On High Alert As South Africa Is Hit By New Covid-19 Variant

Zimbabwe’s Covid-19 response needs to be escalated with the new Covid-19 variant B.1.1.529 seen in the region, although not yet in Zimbabwe, with people getting vaccinated, following more strictly the standard public health measures and with tighter monitoring of border posts, the Government states.

In a statement yesterday, Vice President and Minister of Health and Child Care Dr Constantino Chiwenga reiterated the importance of the mitigation measures with the most important being taking up free vaccinations made available by the Government and paid by Treasury but including masking, social distancing, sanitising and temperature checking at gatherings.

The Vice President said there was little information on the new variant, confirmed in South Africa on Wednesday after an upsurge in cases, except that it had numerous   points of mutation compared to the Delta variant, the main one circulating in Zimbabwe. As investigations continue, the public would be kept informed.

This latest mutant, so far recorded in Botswana and parts of South Africa, has sparked curbs on travel with the United Kingdom, France and some other countries temporarily suspending direct flights from Southern African countries, including Zimbabwe.

Earlier yesterday while addressing the Health Professions Authority congress, Dr Chiwenga urged the nation to remain calm but stressed that Zimbabwe had to escalate its response mechanism to contain the new lineage.

“With regards to the recent new Covid-19 variants being reported in the media, the country should not panic because we are very prepared,” said Vice President Chiwenga.“The ramping up of our vaccination programme in the past month has seen a marked increase in the vaccination uptake.

“We remain focused on this very critical initiative that is designed to protect the                  nation from the negative impact of any new variants.

“Meanwhile, our scientists are already doing genomic sequencing for identification of any new variants hence helping support timely strengthening of our response,” said VP Chiwenga.

Late yesterday in his statement, the Vice President said: “Zimbabwe is yet to detect this new variant among the few cases being reported in the country. New samples will be collected for genomic sequencing surveillance from among the cases being detected at the points of entry and from any clusters.

“Strict monitoring of movements at points of entry and border posts is being intensified to minimise the introduction of this new variant into the country.”VP Chiwenga said the Health Ministry reiterated the importance of vaccination and intensifying Covid-19 mitigation measures of social and physical distancing, use of face masks at all times, sanitisation of hands and surfaces and temperature checks at all gatherings.

“The ministry would also want to assure the nation that there is no need to panic as the above control measures are in place and will mitigate against any variant.”Zimbabwe already has a critical eye at the ports of entry to detect and deter   importing Covid-19 positive patients unwittingly.

South Africa said the decision to put that country on travel restrictions was hasty, and some jurisdictions say the travel limitations on some Southern African countries were bereft of any scientific backing.

Reports from Botswana say its health ministry was tracing contacts of four foreign nationals who tested positive with the new strain, stating that so far all the contacts traced had shown no symptoms.VP Chiwenga told the health professionals to be on call for any eventuality to avoid a repeat of previous spikes at the end of last year and in the middle of this year.

He said the health professions authority has been pivotal in providing a healthcare delivery system which plays a major role in the growth of the economy and country.“All over the world there is a growing realisation that a mixed health system of private and public health players is better to tackle the Covid-19 pandemic.

“I challenge you to come up with strategies, programmes, standards of care and quality equipment that are common to both private and public healthcare providers,” he told the delegates at the Health Professions Authority’s annual congress.

Health experts unanimously urge those yet to be vaccinated to get their shots to boost their immunity. Vaccinated people are significantly less likely to become infected, and if infected are far more likely to escape with mild symptoms.

Around the world most of those who get very sick and those who die come from the unvaccinated.World Health Organisation country representative Dr Alex Gasasira addressed the meeting and commended Zimbabwe for having already incorporated most of the priority actions that WHO is recommending to countries, and he quoted the relevant portions of the Public Health Act 2018 the National Development Strategy 1, 2021-2025 and the National Health Strategy 2021-2025.Fully implementing these, as VP Chiwenga had noted, would strengthen the public health sector.

Dr Gasasira said Governments across the world, including in Zimbabwe, had taken bold action to address the Covid-19 pandemic, saving lives and livelihoods.

“I would like to applaud all those, including many of you here today, that contributed to the articulation of these important national documents that already incorporate most of the policy priorities being forward to address the challenges the world is grappling with.

“I would like to believe that many of us are already supporting the implementation of the contents of these key strategic documents,” said Dr Gasasira.

Fire Destroys Two Fuel Tankers, Two Trucks And Five Vehicles In Gweru

Property worth thousands of United States dollars was lost when a fuel tanker loaded with diesel, two haulage trucks, five vehicles and two commuter omnibuses were burnt at a service station in Gweru yesterday.

The vehicles which were parked at a service station in Claremont suburb were reduced to shells yesterday afternoon.Fire fighters from Gweru City Council who arrived at the scene about 30 minutes after the fire broke out failed to put out the fire after they ran out of water.A garage attendant who witnessed the fire Mr Thomas Msipa said the origins of the fire were still a mystery.

“The fuel tanker was just parked waiting to offload diesel since we had no Zesa,” he said.Mr Msipa said there were other trucks and omnibuses that were parked at the service station.

“Nothing was happening since we didn’t have Zesa and from nowhere, there was a fire which engulfed the tanker, the commuter omnibuses and we are still to ascertain where it came from,” he said.Another witness claimed the fire started from a commuter omnibus that developed an electrical fault.

“The fire came from one of the commuter omnibuses and we suspect it could have been an electrical fault. It then spread to other trucks and there was a huge explosion after the fuel tanker caught fire,” said the eyewitness on condition of anonymity.

Gweru Chief Fire Officer, Mr Felix Muguti who was at the scene said they were investigating the origins of the fire.

“Our fire tender has gone into the city to refill after we ran out of water and for now, we are concentrating on putting out the fire,” he said.

UK Redlist: Cruel Racism At Play?

By Dr Masimba Mavaza | Zimbabweans in the UK are experiencing the saying “it never rains “ as their country is pushed back into the red list; just as COVID 19 rears its ugly head in South Africa.

Zimbabwe, South Africa, Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho and Namibia have been moved onto the red list at 12.00 midday Friday 26th November 2021. This means that there is now a ban on all direct commercial and private flights from these countries from 12.00 midday Friday 26 November to 4am Sunday 28 November 2021.

Those who have been in any of these counties and arrive in England between 12.00 midday on Friday 26 November and 4am Sunday 28 November, will follow special guidance on how to complete the passenger locator form; they will be asked to quarantine at home or at alternative appropriate accommodation. They will be offered a free PCR tests to take during quarantine.

After 4am Sunday 28 November 2021 you there will be mandatory quarantine in a managed hotel. This means people will book a quarantine hotel package, including 2 COVID-19 tests, before you arrive in England.

This has impacted greatly on the Zimbabweans who have booked for journeys to Zimbabwe to be together with family during Christmas.

If you have been in a country or territory on the red list in the 10 days before you arrive in England, you will only be allowed to enter the UK if you either are a British or Irish National or have residence rights in the UK. This will mean those who had booked to visit their children or relatives in the UK will not be allowed to come to the UK.

The whole of Europe is witnessing a growing death toll from COVID-19 as Zimbabwe is punished for a very minimal number of new infections.

The coronavirus outbreak has turned into a global pandemic as the world writhes under the heavy onslaught of its population. But the pointing of bleeding fingers to Africa and place Southern Africa into a red zone is satanic political vindictive and not issues of health care.
There are countries which have the highest rate of of infections but they have a green passage into Britain.

Thousands of people are dying because of this virus yet the hard measures are piled on Africa. The strict rules are that,
If you live in England, you should not travel to countries or territories on the red list. Which simply means Zimbabweans who planned to travel home from England are once again put on hold.

There are different rules for entering England if you have not been in a red list country or territory. Most of the non red zones are not African countries.

Before you travel to England you must, take a COVID-19 test, you must take the test in the 3 days before you travel to England book a quarantine hotel package, including 2 COVID-19 tests, complete a passenger locator form
You must do this even if you are fully vaccinated.

When you arrive in England you must quarantine in a managed hotel, and take 2 COVID-19 tests.

You must do this even if you are fully vaccinated. For the first time in the history of the pandemic Children aged 11 to 17 are forced to take a COVID-19 test in the 3 days before travel to England.
On arrival in England children aged 5 to 17 must quarantine in a managed hotel for 10 full days and take 2 COVID-19 tests.

Children aged 4 or under do not have to take any travel tests but must enter managed quarantine.

Do this traffic light” system introduced by UK is yet another attempt to contain and mitigate the effects of COVID-19. But it is surprising that Africa gets the brunt of these measures. The system assigned the status of either red, amber, or green to other countries with each colour indicating different rules for a range of things including terms of travel and quarantine requirements. So Zimbabwe which is seeing great decline in the Covid cases is rewarded with a red card.

Attempting to determine the justification for the lists and accurate details about them is less than straightforward. The rules for which countries are in or out is far from transparent making it difficult to find any justification for why a country is placed on the red list and, perhaps more importantly, how they get off it.

Of the 54 countries which were on the red list 22 (approximately 41%) are from sub-Saharan Africa. Put another way, of the 48 countries making up the sub-Saharan region, 21 (approximately 44%) are on the UK’s red list.

The flimsy reasons given by the UK is that the UK Government’s justification for placing a country on the red list include: known variants of concern; known high-risk variants that are under investigation; and very high in-country or territory prevalence of COVID-19.

These justifications are difficult to understand on a number of levels. The revised rules reported on the UK government’s website are similarly opaque.

Just take the issue of variants. An important feature about viruses like COVID-19 is that mutations are a natural phenomenon. Some mutations present additional risks but many are inconsequential . And, of course, knowledge about the variants present in any country at any particular time depends entirely on the accuracy and extent of testing taking place.

This is just one reason why the red list has kicked up a storm, with some recommending that it be “scrapped in its entirety”. In South Africa scientists have been critical of the reasons cited as justification for retaining their country on the red list.

When the UK’s red list is considered at perhaps a more granular level, the difficulties become immediately apparent. Two scenarios point to the flawed logic being applied.

Zimbabwe is on the red list together with South Africa yet the numbers available about COVID-19 in the two countries point to this being a ridiculous call.

Current estimates are that South Africa has a rate of daily new confirmed cases per thousand of thirty percent Zimbabwe’s rate is less at 0.001 On top of this Zimbabwe’s rate of total vaccinations per 100 is 9.5 South Africa’s is much lower at 0.84.
Zimbabwe has a rate of total deaths per thousand of 0.00 while South Africa’s rate is 10.36.

At the end of November south Africa has confirmed the presence of the new variant while the spread of the variant in Zimbabwe had not been confirmed. So why is it necessary to paint Zimbabwe red.

One may well question what these data tell us about the two countries. It is very hard to make firm conclusions in the absence of information about the health systems and other important factors in the two countries. Comparisons become difficult and somewhat arbitrary.
This is precisely the difficulty with the red list.

The biggest problem we have with UK is that they seriously think that Zimbabwe is a province of South Africa. They will feel embarrassed if Zimbabwe is to prove that it is better than South Africa in the fight against COVID. They then hive Zimbabwe what they give South Africa as long as it is trouble.

Is it a case of cherry-picking the data? At the very least it indicates an opaqueness to decision-making that should be unacceptable in an era of rigorous scientific thinking and evidence-based policy making. When difficulties arise, we need to raise, rather than lower, the bar on our standards of what counts as credible evidence. Putting Zimbabwe on the red zone is racist and total nonsense.

The rules around the red list and vaccination status is equally baffling and difficult to fathom.
The UK Government website states that from 4am on 26 October, you will qualify as fully vaccinated according to two criteria. The first specifies an approved vaccination programme from a small number of countries. The second stipulates a full course of one of four named vaccines from a “relevant public health body” in 18 different countries. None are in Africa.
Also, from that date if you have been in a red list country in the last 10 days, you will only be allowed to enter the UK if you are a British or Irish national or you have residence rights in the UK.

Zimbabwe is a country that acted swiftly and decisively with clear and transparent leadership from the earliest indications of the monumental significance of the virus.

Despite all this, you will be unable to visit the UK under any conditions. Dr Murandu from Bristol England said
“It is unfathomable to me how this can be achieving anything other than an exacerbation of existing inequities. What possible difference can it make where I had my vaccinations? Is there some reason that being vaccinated in Rwanda or South Africa is inferior to being vaccinated in Barbados.”

In fact the World Health Organisation recently commended Zimbabwe’s vaccination drive. Yet it remains on the UK’s red list and Zimbabwe is not listed as a country with an approved vaccination programme.

More fancy footwork with numbers perhaps? Or simply skewed thinking.
The World Health Organisation is clear that vaccination will not bring an end to this pandemic until it is distributed to everyone around the world.

Yet some countries, predominantly high-income ones, are stock piling far more vaccines than they need and providing booster shots to people who don’t require them.

COVID-19 is providing us with opportunities to learn a great many things about health and health systems. But perhaps it’s most valuable lesson is the inescapable importance of equity to the global community. That lesson is ignored to the peril of us all.

Maybe rather than focusing on a red list country club with unclear and questionable criteria, we should create a red list of countries that are actively creating vaccine distribution inequities.
Only a few are being recorded and passed on as statistics.

Some countries hide the figures in order to protect their images. Many nurses in Europe, moreso in England, are contracting this disease while an estimation of four in every seven health workers have the virus.

But in a bid to avoid panic, the figures are greatly played down.
In England, people are advised to quarantine themselves and are asked to come to hospital only when they get serious.

The actual number of the infected will never be known since only the few who end up in hospitals are recorded.

World Health Organisation said the outbreak, which has been teetering on the verge of a pandemic for weeks, had now surpassed the level of epidemic and warned the worst was still to come.

The UK is experiencing a rise in the infected and the dying.
Germany has reported a huge percentage spike in cases, taking the official toll to unimagined figures — mind you these are only those who were reported to the authorities.

The UN health body, which has previously described the situation as a ‘public health emergency of international concern’, defines a pandemic as an epidemic that spreads throughout the world through local transmission.

No one is immune to COVID-19.
All measures to prevent the spread of the virus must be taken seriously; but this must not show the inequality and discrimination it must mend it.

So many Zimbabweans will suffer from Homesickness which is the distress caused by being away from home. Its cognitive hallmark is preoccupying thoughts of home and attachment objects. Homesickness is a feeling of stress or anxiety caused by separation from people and places that you know.

It is already worse that you are abroad but now being painted red is the dilemma of the Zimbabweans in the UK.

About New Coronavirus Variant

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has declared a new coronavirus variant to be “of concern” and named it Omicron.

Initially named B.1.1.529, the new coronavirus variant was first reported to the WHO from South Africa on 24 November and has also been identified in Botswana, Belgium, Hong Kong and Israel.

By Friday, several countries had banned travel from southern Africa, with the UK adding South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Lesotho, Swaziland and Namibia to a so-called “red list”.

Scientists said B.1.1.529 had a large number of mutations and early evidence suggested it is highly transmissible and increased the risk of reinfection.

Viruses, by their nature, tend to change or mutate, over time and a variant becomes a variant of concern when that mutation might affect things like transmissibility, virulence or the effectiveness of vaccines.

On Friday, WHO noted that the number of the Omicron variant appeared to be increasing in almost all of South Africa’s provinces.

The WHO has said it will take several few weeks to understand the impact of the new variant, as scientists work to determine its transmissibility.

It has warned against countries rushing to impose travel restrictions, saying they should look to a “risk-based and scientific approach”.

However, the UK, EU countries and Switzerland have temporarily halted flights from some southern African countries, among them Zimbabwe which has not yet reported cases of the new variant.

South Africa’s Health Minister Joe Phaahla told reporters that there was no justification for imposing the flight bans.- BBC

Marry Chiwenga Case Set for Monday

Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga’s estranged wife Marry Mubaiwa was yesterday remanded to Monday when a latest medical report on her mental state to stand trial will be presented in court.
Mubaiwa, who was represented by Jabulani Ndlovu in place of Beatrice Mtetwa, appeared before magistrate Lazini Ncube.

She filed an application to stop her trial, saying she was not fit to stand trial citing ill-health.

But prosecutor Michael Reza said the trial could proceed if the doctors certified that she was fit.

This was after Reza told the court that Mubaiwa was medically examined recently while in custody.

Marry Chiwenga…

Reza said a medical affidavit would be tendered within three days and asked the court to postpone the matter to Monday.

Mubaiwa is facing money-laundering, assault, attempted murder and fraud charges.

She was diagnosed with lymphoedema at a time when she is also facing several criminal allegations which started in 2019 after Chiwenga applied for divorce.

Apart from the divorce and criminal cases, she has been fighting to get custody of her three children.

She is accused of attempting to kill Chiwenga while he was hospitalised in South Africa. Mubaiwa is also accused of forging signatures in a bid to formalise her marriage to Chiwenga.

The State also accuses her of assaulting her helper soon after her fallout with Chiwenga. -Newsday

Let’s Meet In Court, Mnangagwa-Removal Man Announces

ZANU PF youth league member Sybeth Musengezi yesterday vowed to forge ahead with his court action where he is challenging the constitutionality of President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s ascendancy as Zanu PF leader in 2017.

Mnangagwa and Zanu PF recently threatened to sue Musengezi’s lawyers demanding withdrawal of the court challenge.

Emmerson Mnangagwa

Musengezi’s lawyers have accused Mnangagwa and Zanu PF’s lawyers of using bullying tactics and reported them to the Law Society of Zimbabwe.

The Zanu PF activist is seeking a court order declaring null and void a November 19, 2017 Zanu PF central committee meeting that elected Mnangagwa as party leader after the late Robert Mugabe’s dismissal.

In an opposing affidavit, Zanu PF secretary for administration Obert Mpofu argued that Mnangagwa enjoyed presidential immunity. He also dismissed Musengezi as a bogus Zanu PF member.

In his answering affidavit, Musengezi stuck to his guns.

“I believe with respect that the opposition is without merit and ought to be dismissed with attendant costs on a higher scale,” Musengezi said in his answering affidavit filed through his lawyers Ncube Attorneys.

Musengezi cited Zanu PF, Mnangagwa, Mpofu, acting finance secretary Patrick Chinamasa, former Vice-President Phelekezela Mphoko and ex-Zanu PF finance secretary Ignatius Chombo as the first to fifth respondents respectively in his application.

“Applicant clearly has sued the second respondent in his official capacity as the President and first secretary of the first respondent. To suggest that the applicant is thereby suing the office of the President is self-servingly misleading.

That the two offices, that is, that of the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe and that of the President and first secretary of the respondent are held by one individual does not bar a suit against the said individual office bearer in his suitable capacity as President and 1st secretary of his voluntary association.” -Newsday

The First Ever ZPCS Parade Led By Women

State Media – Female officers in the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS) are breaking new ground riding on Government’s gender policies that have created equal opportunities for both men and women.

The Women Parade

A number of women are pushing the frontiers, smashing stereotypes that have for long held them hostage at the workplace and these include ZPCS officers.

This was confirmed recently at a pass out parade held at the ZPCS Ntabazinduna Training Depot where 402 officers graduated in Conversion, Intermediate Security/Intelligence, Basic Stores Management and Basic Internal stores courses.

For the first time since the country’s Independence in 1980, the ZPCS pass out parade was commanded by a woman, superintendent Stella Moyo.

Supt Moyo said she and a few other female officers seized the opportunity to face new challenges when they realised that the Second Republic stood for equal opportunities.

“When I joined ZPCS, there were different reactions from my male colleagues but what was encouraging was that most of them were supportive.

Confidence is all that is needed if anyone is to excel in what they wish to do,” Supt Moyo said after the parade last week.

She said some men were of the view that women cannot be good leaders and the challenge was for women to prove them wrong.

“When men realise you are dedicated, they are willing to help you rise. It’s not always true that men pull down women at work, what is just needed is positive attitude,” said Supt Moyo.

She said she was looking forward to leading the parade at national events to show that women are capable leaders.

Another female officer who defied the odds is chief Correctional Officer Portia Maseko (45).

She is the chief armourer and all those working under her are men.

Chief Correctional Officer Maseko said with the right attitude, women can become great leaders even in positions society generally perceives to be a preserve for men.

“Sometimes it’s not easy doing a job which for a long time has been viewed as a preserve for men. It takes courage and dedication to break such barriers. Our lives as women are always challenging but we always overcome.

No challenge should be too much for a woman because we always get things done even at home,” said Chief Correctional Officer Maseko.

She said she was attested in 1995 and after serving for that long, she realised that sometimes women are intimidated by challenging positions which militates against their advancement.

“As long as we feel that way, we have a long way to go as far as equal opportunities are concerned,” she said.

Correctional Officer Princess Ncube from Hwange who scooped the prize for the overall best student in Basic Stores Management outshone male colleagues.

The course was being offered for the first time by ZPCS and she emerged tops in a class of 102 officers.

Not only was Correctional Officer Ncube at the top of her class, but she was also one of only two females in the top 12.

She said women can do anything as long as they are determined and committed to achieving their goals.

“As women we go through a lot trying to balance our careers with motherhood and we end up thinking we cannot be achievers.

The role in the family should not be a stumbling block to our advancement in our different chosen careers,” Correctional Officer Ncube said.

She said she feels she hasn’t achieved much and she is therefore looking forward to continue climbing the ladder.

Correctional Officer Ncube said women should tell themselves that the sky is the limit in whatever job they are doing.

I wish to further my education and do social science. I just think we shouldn’t not be satisfied with being in one place, we should keep striving to advance and achieve.

You should stop playing with chickens if you feel that you are an eagle and don’t take yourself for granted,” she said.

Zimbabwe has made significant strides in promoting gender equality and women’s economic empowerment hence the increasing number of women in key positions in both the public and private sector. Chronicle

MDC Alliance Takes Over Gokwe-Chireya

Tinashe Sambiri|The MDC Alliance is confident of defeating Zanu PF in rural constituencies.

The popular movement is conducting vigorous voter registration and mobilization programmes across the country.

The party is determined to neutralize Zanu PF’s popularity in the rural areas.

See statement below:

Mobilisation and recruitment continues unabated in the marginalised rural Gokwe Chireya!

26 November 2021

Mdc Alliance Namibia remains inspired and energised by the revolutionary zeal in Gokwe Chireya, a purported Zanupf stronghold. Yesterday, the Mdc Alliance organic chairperson of Kahobo Pashairwa Branch Gwatadza Makaki led the branch during a mobilisation and recruitment drive in Gokwe Chireya. The meeting is part of the Citizens Convergence for Change where social democrats are expected to commit themselves towards the change that delivers. The branch chairperson pledged to remain dedicated to the national democratic revolution until President Advocate Nelson Chamisa goes to the State House.

The meeting was conducted and graced by the provincial leadership, Secretary General Chacha alongside the district Secretary General Masoso. What inspires Mdc Alliance Namibia is that Mdc Alliance Botswana District Chairperson John Pamire continues to give moral , material and financial support to the constituency as a way of partnering rural constituencies to the individuals, branches, districts and provinces in the diaspora to win Zimbabwe for complete change under our Political Dynamo President Advocate Nelson Chamisa. It is clear that the people of Gokwe Chireya are geared to vote for change in 2023.

The district and provincial leaders who attended the branch meeting in Kahobo Pashairwa made it point blank that it is possible to amass 6 million votes for change in 2023. People of Gokwe Chireya are clear that Advocate Nelson Chamisa Wamba Dia Wamba is the only hope in Zimbabwe. It was unanimously agreed kuti Ngaapinde Hake Mukomana in 2023 since he is the only one with the full potential to revamp the sunken Zimbabwe economy. The leadership was very clear that Zanupf corruption and gross misgovernance manifesting in arbitrary arrests of voices of dissent should be eradicated through voting.

Register to vote, vote in 2023 and defend the vote from Zanupf shenanigans was the message of the day. The members of the national democratic revolution in Gokwe Chireya pledged to remain resolute in supporting the genuine struggle for socio-economic transformation. They also laughed off the attempt by Zanupf to sabotage the voter registration blitz that was scheduled for the 6th of December 2021 which was meant to allow more voter registrants during the festive season. People are aware that Zanupf wants to create voter apathy after realising that the citizens are ready to register in their astronomical numbers. The citizenry shall never feel frustrated by ZEC’s futile attempt to break the fighting spirit in our people.

Well done Gokwe Chireya for standing up to fulfil your fundamental right to vote and be heard. You are an inspiration to all who are ready to defend social liberation policies. Gokwe is now ready for change. Voting is part of independence! The world is run by those who show up on the voting day. Honourable John Pamire, remains a paragon of virtue exhibited by his extraordinary energy in supporting his rural constituency morally, materially and financially as mobilisation and recruitment intensify in the rural Zimbabwe.

Mnangagwa Ignores Binga Flood Victims

Scores of households in Binga District, Matabeleland North Province, whose homesteads were destroyed by floods almost two years ago, are still waiting for the Government to provide them with shelter.

More than 215 homesteads located on the confluence of Sibwambwa, Sikande, Namapande and Manyenyengwa rivers were destroyed by floods on 10 February last year, displacing 967 people.

Civil Protection Unit (CPU) director Nathan Nkomo told VicFallsLive that 6 out of 37 homesteads in the Nsungwale area have been completed though not yet roofed. Said Nkomo:

We need something like $80 million to finish rebuilding those houses, but if you go through our national contingency plan in the 2021-2022 rainfall season, there is a figure of US$101 million which talks of a backlog infrastructure, which requires rehabilitation.

(Chininga Bridge) might be one of those because we came together and all the provinces presented the outstanding works of infrastructure being undertaken in their provinces, so I wouldn’t be surprised.

The Chininga bridge, which connected Nsungwale and Siabuwa and linked the centres with Karoi, Gokwe and Kariba, was destroyed by the floods.

The Government has been accused of abandoning the villagers as some of them have since deserted the camps that were set up by the CPU citing lack of amenities and food.

However, Nkomo denied the accusations saying they have provided the flood victims with “almost everything” including food. He said:

In those circumstances, people will always say something because they were used to their own ways of living, but as far as we know we have been giving them food when that calamity of flash floods happened.

We provided them with almost everything from grains and relish.

The reason why they keep going back to their destroyed homesteads is that where these rivers meet they deposit some soils, which are very good for agriculture and this is why even in Tsholotsho you see some going back to the confluence of Gwayi and Shangani rivers.- VicFallsLive

Botswana Investors Expose Zim C.I.O., Refute Chamisa Funding Reports

Fawcett Cash Transit Crew Loses US$335 000 To Robbers

Wife Caught Pants Down, Runs Naked

Fire Outbreak At Garage, Five Cars Burnt To Ashes

By A Correspondent-Five vehicles, a fuel tanker loaded with diesel, two haulage trucks and two commuter omnibuses were burnt after a fire broke out at a fuel garage in Clemont suburb, Gweru, this afternoon.

Firefighters from Gweru City who arrived at the scene about 30 minutes after the fire outbreak could not put out the fire after their 5000-litre fire tender ran out of water.

A garage attendant who witnessed the fire, Mr Thomas Msipa said the origins of the fire were still a mystery.

“The fuel tanker was just parked, we had no Zesa and nothing was happening. We don’t know where the fire originated from,” he said.

Gweru chief fire officier, Mr Felix Muguti who was at the scene said they were still concentrating on puting out the fire with investigations on its origins underway.
“Our fire tender has gone into the city to refill after we ran out of water and for now we are concentrating on putting out the fire,” he said

One Of The World’s Oldest, Finest Trees Found In Vic Falls

By A Correspondent- Big Tree in Victoria Falls, one of the world’s best-known trees and one of the oldest, has had its age determined by a more accurate chemical analysis method known as carbon dating.

The Big Tree is a colossal structure, soaring over 26 metres in the air, around 24 metres in circumference, with bulky branches, many stems that make up its trunk, and a wide, gaping hole at its core.
Its proximity to the falls, a major tourist destination, means that millions of visitors see it in a normal year, making it a sensation in its own right.
Some equally or more impressive trees were lost under the flooding further downstream that occurred after the construction of the Kariba Dam in 1956. Unlike the animals rescued and saved by ‘Operation Noah’ during the flooding the trees had to stay where they were, many were bulldozed so they would not become underwater hazards.
African baobabs—including the Big Tree—can live more than a thousand years and the previous estimates said the Big Tree was between 1 200 and 2 000 years old, although others put it at 2 500 years. But how old is this tree on which even Scottish treasure hunter David Livingstone inscribed his name in 1855?
To answer that question, a team of three scientists led by Adrian Partrut recently arrived at Victoria Falls and immediately rented a car to see the Big Tree in person.
The sight did not disappoint, Patrut says. “It was as if we had entered straight into a museum, into a well-known painting of a master, but we operated as scientists,” according to the nuclear chemist at Babes-Bolyai University in Romania. “I circled the baobab and admired it from all possible angles.”
Patrut, who has been studying ancient trees for decades, and his team made the pilgrimage to study the growth, age, and architecture of the tree. Dating ancient trees often involves counting “growth rings” that appear seasonally, a tried and true method that unfortunately doesn’t work well for baobabs.
These often massive trees have only very faint growth rings, and many have large cavities in their trunk and stems that confound attempts to date them. Until recently, most of evaluations of African baobab trees have been “guesstimates,” he says.
But over the past decade, Patrut has been refining a more precise method for estimating the age of baobab trees: radiocarbon dating. Patrut has used it on trees across the continent: South Africa, Mozambique, Namibia. For the Big Tree, his team found that its multiple stems have different ages, with its oldest one dating back to about 870AD.
The African baobab tree is different from the Australian one, for example, and is composed of several stems knitted together at the base to form a ring shape. Each stem may have started growing at a different time, so they each merit separate study.
To do this, the team inserted a T-shaped tool called an “increment borer” into different areas of the stems of the baobab. The tool extracts tiny wood samples at different depths, which the team then treated and sent to a lab for dating. The results show that the nine stems (including a “false” stem that emerged out of an adjacent one) can be lumped into three distinct generations.
There was the oldest one, at about 1,100 to 1,200 years old, a group that are around 600 to 700 years old, and another generation that dates to between 200 and 250 years ago. The team also found that the oldest stems haven’t grown further for more than a century.
The Big Tree is something of an outlier. While there are more than 100 million African baobabs in the world, fewer than 100 are thought to be 1,000 years or more old, says Patrut. All of them have inevitably endured countless threats, both acute and chronic.
The Big Tree is no exception: In the 1960s, it survived a violent storm that virtually destroyed the upper part of its canopy. As climate change continues, African baobabs, especially older ones that rely on heavy rainfalls, could face scorching heat and prolonged drought can push them to their limits.
Scientists (including Adrian Patrut, visible at lower left) had to sample all of the Big Tree’s stems to determine its age. ROXANA PATRUT
“[These are] very old trees that have survived for centuries, withstanding various abiotic and biotic factors including but not limited to extreme weather events,” says Patrut.
The Big Tree is large and old, but more than that, he says, it is resilient and adaptive—traits that are ever-more-critical in the face of an uncertain future.
The BaTonga elders believe a ‘curse’ started on their land when David Livingstone carved his name on the giant tree in 1855 and the ‘curse’ is spreading to other baobabs in the form of the disease.
They believe great ancestral spirits of the Zambezi River dwelt on the tree and when Livingstone etched his name on it, they became very angry and were never appeased therefore causing the sooty disease now threatening the survival of other baobabs in Zimbabwe.
Communities that directly benefit from the grotesque trees in Binga and Hwange are already counting the cost, as they can no longer benefit from the bark, which they traditionally used for making mats and other pieces of craft.
While the robustness and extreme longevity of these trees imply that they are generally healthy, research carried out recently by the Forestry Commission and Environment Africa’s Tree Africa has revealed that the trees are under threat from the sooty baobab disease.

Mashwede Buys Mnangagwa Biography For US$755 000

By A Correspondent- A Harare businessman, Alex Elias Mashamhanda, has bought President Mnangagwa’s biography for US$755 000 before paying US$50 000 for the Zanu PF leader’s Scarf.

Mashwede, who runs a diverse business assortment in Harare and Chivhu, coughed up over US$755,000 at State House event three months ago on “A life of Sacrifice”, the book that details President Mnangagwa’s life.

Last Friday, the Mashwede holdings owner bought Mnangagwa’s Scarf and a tie for a whopping US$50 000 at a dinner hosted by the President at the State House to fundraise for a scholarship programme.

The 71-year-old Mashamhanda paid the US$35 000 without thinking twice. As if that was not head-turning enough, “Dr Mash” pledged another US$50,000.

Now, that’s money many Zimbabwean businesses won’t part within months, never mind just fifteen seconds as Mashamhanda did. Right after that, social media went abuzz with many asking: Who the hell is this man?

Mashamhanda has vast business interests in property, fuel, commodity broking and liquefied petroleum gas.

His company headquarters are at a two-storey Mashwede Towers at Number 18226 Culverwell Road, Arcadia, a walking distance from Harare CBD. But his businesses are more than that.

Army Hit By Conman In $6 million Fraud

The Grain Marketing Board (GMB) and the Zimbabwe National Army were subjected to a $6 million scam in fake tenders to supply mealie- meal to the military.

The Grain Marketing Board (GMB) has since said it stopped producing and selling mealie- meal hence members of the public must not fall prey to conmen who purport to be employees of the parastatal.

ZDF commanders including the late Edzai Chimonyo, with Emmerson Mnangagwa.

This follows reports that a man in Bulawayo who is masquerading as a soldier duped 12 companies of more than $6 million in a bogus deal to supply the army with mealie- meal from the GMB.

Purporting to be a sergeant Muriro from Lookout Masuku Barracks (formerly Llewellin Barracks) near Bulawayo, the man allegedly phoned the companies and expressed an interest in awarding them tenders to supply mealie- meal to the army.

He would claim that the companies were carefully picked from the Procurement Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe register.

In a statement, the GMB’s chief executive officer Mr Rockie Mutenha said the company stopped producing mealie-meal.

The GMB used to produce mealie-meal as part of its Silo-products manufactured by its commercial unit.

“The Grain Marketing Board (GMB) would like to warn the public not to fall prey to conmen who purport to be employees of GMB that could facilitate the buying of its mealie- meal,” said Mr Mutenha.

He said GMB’s core business now is to store and manage the Strategic Grain Reserve and also sell grain to millers and stock feed manufacturers.

Mr Mutenha urged members of the public to report suspicious people claiming to be GMB employees to its risk department or the nearest police station.

“For further enquiries the public can contact GMB Corporate Communications Department through the hotline telephone line 0242 707898 or email at [email protected],” said Mr Mutenha.-

Voter Mobilization Continues In Gokwe- Chireya …

Welldone Gokwe Chireya for standing up to fulfil your fundamental right to vote and be heard.

‘ZEC Suspension Of Voter Registration Blitz Capricious And Calamitous’

Zimbabwe Election Advocacy Trust Information:

Chiwenga Speech Shows Discord And Desperation Within Zanu PF

By Charles Dzimwasha| By now everyone will have watched a video of Chiwenga at a rally where he was declaring his support for Mnangagwa, by saying that he and others will be willing to break the Constitution to make sure that Mnangagwa stays in power forever.

Why was Chiwenga saying these things in the week of the 4th anniversary of the 2017 coup? Was this his way of showing strong support for Mnangagwa? We know Zanu like to show off the power they have over Zimbabwe, but they rarely show off in public about breaking the Constitution even though their  presence in government is a result of breaking the Constitution of the country. Even when they did the coup that removed Mugabe, Chiwenga and others insisted that what they were doing was in accordance with the law even though it wasn’t. In public, dictators like to give an impression that they are following the Constitution in order as a legal justification of their rule and also to avoid pressure from international bodies like the UN and of course the West.

So it was really strange to hear Chiwenga say these things in public particularly 4 years after the 2017 coup. On first appearances, it looks  like a man singing for his supper, or a VP dragged out to give public support to Mnangagwa who is now openly under pressure from certain sections of Zanu. Imagine, there is even a man from Zanu challenging the legality of Mnangagwa’s Zanu presidency at the courts – where  does this man find the courage to do such a thing? We all remember the scattering of G40 people and  apologies while wearing a sweater that became infamous. How come this man is able to make such a challenge and walk freely in the country? Whenever a small dog is showing off there will bw a bigger dog behind it.   If someone from the MDC rose up and tried to challenge the legitimacy of Mnangagwa they will be at Chikurubi before sunset.

Perhaps more revealing was the lukeworm response Chiwenga received from the crowd when he put an image in their heads where ED is still the president. We are now at a point where even Zanu supporters are showing some discord against ED’s leadership. In recent days, a video went viral showing ED looking completely drunk as a newt and requiring at least two men to hold his hands like a hospital patient.

Going back to the Chiwenga’s speech, ED supporters will want to believe that this was the Vice President showing strong support to their leader. On the other hand, they fail to realise that when Chiwenga said he and others are willing to break the law to keep ED in power, what that means is that Chiwenga and others can also break the law to remove ED or anyone for that matter. Perhaps he was saying these things because he has actually lost that ability to break the Constitution to remove or keep a president in power since he was forced to retire from the army. All these suppositions show discord and cracks within Zanu.

Regardless of any possible hidden  meanings behind Chiwenga’s speech, there is a clear one which is that Zanu pf do not respect the democratic processes of the country. They are going to rig the 2023 general election and will use violence to stop any protest against the rigging. The MDC Alliance and other genuine people in opposition need to come up with a solid plan in addition to a massive voters turnout. For the sake of Zimbabwe, Chiwenga, ED and Zanu need to go, or else there will be no country left for our children.

‘Gender Based Violence The Hallmark Of Mnangagwa Regime’

By A Correspondent| The opposition MDC-Alliance has spoken on the abuse of the wife of the Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, Marry by the former Army Boss.

Below is the MDC-Alliance statement on gender-based violence against women:

The MDC Alliance Assembly of Women notes with concern the increased incidence of gender-based violence, which has become a hallmark of Mr Mnangagwa’s regime.
The most recent example of the regime’s toxic culture of abusing women and weaponizing the law against them is the harassment and torture of Marry Chiwenga, the estranged wife of Mr Constantine Chiwengwa.

The case of Marry Chiwenga and her persecution at the hands of law enforcement agents is a sad indictment on the law enforcement system and the state’s failure to respect women’s right to dignity and fair and equal treatment before the law.
There can be no doubt that the settling of political scores on behalf of powerful political elites is behind the continued abuse of this woman and her continued unlawful alienation from her children.
As we approach the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, we call upon the authorities and indeed wider society to reflect carefully on what the case of Marry Chiwenga represents for the cause of women’s rights in our nation.
As her health condition deteriorates, no justifiable basis has been put forward to support the decision to allow her to seek adequate healthcare and treatment abroad.

The capricious and arbitrary decision by the Magistrates’ Court to detain her for a “medical examination” echoes the ill-treatment that was meted out against MDC Alliance MP, Hon Joana Mamombe, when she was unjustly incarcerated by the same court.
More recently, Vongai Tome was sexually harassed by a police officer when she was attending the court hearing for Makomborero Haruzivishe.
The perpetrators of the abduction, sexual assault and torture of the MDC Trio of Joana Mamombe, Cecilia Chimbiri and Netsai Marova are still at large.
To date, there has been no accountability for these acts of sexual and gender-based violence against women which has become a hallmark of Mr Mnangagwa’s regime.

We demand an end to the weaponization of the law against women and call for Marry Chiwenga’s right to dignity and protection of the law to be upheld.
We further demand that there be accountability for previous cases of gender-based violence against women including the cases of the MDC Trio and Vongai Tome.
Under an MDC Alliance government, women of all tribes, colours, political persuasions and creeds will be treated with dignity and protected by the law.

Ritualistic Formality Bereft Of Substance, Biti Slams Mthuli Budget

Finance minister Mthuli Ncube yesterday presented a $927,3 billion budget with an ambitious gross domestic product growth projection of 5,5% for 2022, but former Finance minister Tendai Biti dismissed it as a “ritualistic formality bereft of substance”.

Biti said the budget had failed to address exchange rate distortions and structural challenges around the free-falling local currency.

In his budget presentation, Ncube said: “Higher than projected wage reviews during
the course of 2021 by government and some private sector employers has pushed a
number of taxpayers into higher income tax brackets, resulting in bracket creep and a
higher tax burden.

“In order to provide relief to taxpayers and also boost aggregate demand for goods and services, I propose to adjust the tax-free threshold from $10 000 to $25 000 and
also adjust the tax bands to end at $500 000, above which a marginal tax rate of 40%
will apply with effect from January 1, 2022.”

But Biti said the budget was detached from realities on the ground, particularly on
exchange rate distortions that have resulted in the ever-increasing costs of goods
and services.

“A brave approach was needed to deal with exchange rate distortions and multiple
pricing systems. Truth is de-dollarisation has failed dismally. The failure to address
the structural issues around currency, the auction rate, deficits, corruption and the to the structural challenges facing Zimbabwe.

“As we argued before, Zimbabwe faces humongous structural challenges which will not be resolved by imposing punitive taxes that punish working people.”

Ncube has repeatedly insisted that he would not dollarise despite pressure from
captains of industry and the citizenry.

Zimbabweans had expected the minister to increase the threshold to $50 000 when
he presented the mid-term budget review in July.

However, the cost of living has increased to much higher levels than the proposed
tax-free threshold.

The Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency (ZimStat) said the November cost of living
for a family of five stood at $37 780 per month.

In July, the Confederation of Zimbabwe Retailers said based on the current levels of
prices, a tax-free threshold of $50 000 would alleviate poverty for many Zimbabweans.

But the cost of living has rocketed since then, with foreign currency shortages
triggering rampaging parallel market exchange rates.

Workers earning Zimbabwe dollar salaries have to buy foreign currency on the parallel market for their daily requirements, yet the rate has been shooting, while their
salaries have been stagnant.

Yesterday, ZimStats said the annual inflation rate increased to 58,4% this month,
from 54% in October, giving an indication of the hard times ahead.

“I further propose to review the tax-free threshold on income accruing in foreign
currency from US$70 to US$100, with effect from January 1, 2022. Other foreign
currency tax bands remain unchanged,” Ncube said.

According to the Apex Council of Zimbabwe, the largest civil servants’ union, workers
earn between $22 000 and $40 000 on average, while private sector employees earn
between $25 000 and $35 000 monthly.

“Our substantive position remains that salaries should be restored to 2018 levels,
where the lowest paid civil servant was earning US$475 or thereabout. That is the
substantive position,” Apex Council spokesperson David Dzatsunga said yesterday.

“Maybe that may not happen at once, but we prefer a commitment to the restoration
of salaries to that level from the start. As long as it (income tax-free threshold) is in
Zimbabwe dollars, it is just going to evaporate very quickly, actually so I don’t want to
classify it as a measure that can really be celebrated,” he said.

MPs who spoke to NewsDay said they were not convinced the 2022 budget would
solve Zimbabwe’s crisis.

Ruth Labode, chairperson of the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Health, said
the package for the health sector fell short of the national requirements.

“I’m not happy because if you remove COVID-19 funds, the remainder is too little,”
she said.

“So I’m urging the minister to look for funds.” MDC senator Morgen Komichi said
more efforts should be made to resolve the health delivery crisis.

The budget has supported some elements of recovery,” he said.

Mupfumira Gets Passport Back While Marry Chiwenga Remains Stuck In Zimbabwe

FORMER Cabinet minister Prisca Mupfumira was yesterday allowed to travel to
the United Kingdom to visit her ailing brother after the court granted her application for temporary release of her passport and relaxation of bail conditions.

Mupfumira, in her application done on her behalf by lawyer Mr Admire Rubaya, Mupfumira indicated that she intends to travel to the UK on December 1 and return on January 8 next year.

She also committed her sister’s Westgate house as surety for the release of her passport.

“She is prepared to add her sister Lillian Chimukumbete’s property as surety that she will return to court,” he said.

Mr Rubaya told the court that Mupfumira will not run away from her trials on corruption-related charges since she wants to clear her name.

The State led by Mr Whisper Mabhaudi and Mr Loveit Masuku opposed the application saying Mupfumira might not return to court since her trials are at an advanced stage.

Mr Mabhaudi told the court that the State had led five out of six witnesses in one of the cases, which might induce her not to return from the UK. He said there was need for additional surety to ensure that Mupfumira returns to court.

Harare regional magistrate Mr Stanford Mambanje granted Mupfumira application saying the additional surety she pledged showed that they wanted to attend to the welfare of fellow family members.

Meanwhile, the wife of vice President Constantino Chiwenga has had several attempts to get her passport back in order to seek medication outside the country, turned down.

Stop Pursuing Selfish Interests, Kasukuwere Tells Zim Politicians

Exiled former Zanu PF national commissar Saviour Kasukuwere yesterday urged the country’s political leaders to stop pursuing selfish interests and unite to heal a deeply divided and impoverished Zimbabwe.

Kasukuwere, a former Cabinet minister, who went into exile in 2017 following coup that removed the late former President Robert Mugabe, is currently in South Africa.

He has been accused of plotting to oust President Emmerson Mnangagwa. Kasukuwere has also been accused of sponsoring a court application by Zanu PF activist, Sybeth Musengezi to challenge Mnangagwa’s ascendancy to party presidency.

“People must unite and deal with common challenges. No individual can be bigger than Zimbabwe,” Kasukuwere told NewsDay.

“Our country is isolated and there is the issue of sanctions and the issue of polarisation. These issues require wisdom and maturity to handle so that we give a new era to the people of Zimbabwe.”

Kasukuwere fled the country with other G40 members, including former Higher and Tertiary Education minister Jonathan Moyo and ex-Foreign Affairs minister Walter Mzembi, among others.

He came back in 2018, but left again under unclear circumstances.

“It must never be about an individual or opposition, but it is about survival of the people of Zimbabwe.  Let us create conditions for a greater Zimbabwe and stability, greater peace and no one must be scared of their future in Zimbabwe. We must have hope.

“No individual is greater than the nation. We need to admit that and ask ourselves tough questions before we do the right thing. The rule of law and property rights should be protected.  We need a better country for every Zimbabwean,” Kasukuwere said.

BSR: A Critical Examination of the Musengezi v Mnangagwa and ZANU PF Litigation | MAVAZA OPINION

By Dr Masimba Mavaza | The case of Sybeth Musengezi v ZANU PF, Emmerson Mnangagwa, and others has been a systematic attack on President Mnangagwa and the party at large. The case being a loud sounding nothing, has captured the attention of the media and citizens. Alex Magaisa took time to argue his biased side even though the truth remains that this is a case where someone is trying sponsoring the destabilisation of the party and the nation. Musengezi says he is a member of ZANU PF who is aggrieved by how the succession of Mnangagwa to the helm of ZANU PF was handled 4 years ago when the new dispensation was ushered in.

Unlike what Magaisa says, the challenge which is mounted by Musengezi is a direct attack on the presidency of Mnangagwa and the legality and legitimacy of his rule. This casts brighter aspersions on the unending song of legitimacy which has been sung by the MDC and all those who were offended by the new dispensation.

Dr Masimba Mavaza

This gives us a clear light defining the nature of the litigation. It is lame to say what is targeted is only the presidency of the party and not of the country. The foundation of the national presidency is the presidency of the party. It is a joke to say that he is not challenging the violation of the national constitution. The truth is Sybeth Musengezi is simply a face of the plotters who plotting to remove Mnangagwa from the high seat. It is further not true that he is challenging the alleged violation of ZANU PF’s constitution if he was he would have followed the very ZANU PF constitution in grievance and mediation process.

In a veiled push to remove the president from office, Musengezi pretends to be challenging the ascendency of president Mnangagwa to the party’s presidency saying it violated the constitution of ZANU PF and he wants it corrected. This is the narrative Magaisa has ran with in an effort to vilify the good governance of president Mnangagwa.

It has become so clear that there is an evil hand fighting ZANU PF. One of the ugly sides is the attempt to equate In this Musengezi’s to a case that was brought against the MDC in 2018 by Elias Mashavira who argued that the MDC constitution had been violated.
Musengezi’s case is a mischievous attempt to throw Zimbabwean governance into further confusion.

The case is simply naughty and mischievous his arguments, vague and embarrassing.
The case has all signs of brutal war as can be seen by the exchange of letters between the lawyers of the opposing sides. It becomes very clear that this case was meant to embarrass the president hence the way it is playing in the gallery. It is not normal for lawyers to publish communications between them. The behaviour of Msengezi’s lawyers of publishing the letters and seeking to create headlines shows that the aim of this case is to create a distraction.
Mnangagwa has a job to do and he is doing it well.

The exchange between the lawyers has escalated matters and shown that there is someone from the dark world trying to derail the work of ZANU PF and its people.

This matter is playing out in the public arena, it is evil and wrong to politicise the legal system. Firstly it is clear that the application itself is unlawful and unconstitutional. This is because the case breaches
presidential immunity accorded to the one in the office of the president. So the president has presidential immunity and should not be brought to court in his personal capacity. The national constitution confers immunity from any personal lawsuits while a president is in office. The relevant provision is section 98(1) of the constitution which states as follows:
“While in office, the President is not liable to civil or criminal proceedings in any court for things done or omitted to be done in his or her personal capacity.”
So the law suit should wait until the president leaves office. We can not divide and try to split the facts here. The Mnangagwa cited in this case is the President of Zimbabwe. It is of consequence that the facts of the matter refer to the actions or omissions done on the way to the presidency. This does not change the facts. mnangagwa remains the president and any personal suits do not stick on the president while he is in office.
Those taking aim at the president are people in the party who have always disliked the ascendency of the president to the high office. This is a factional war gone legal.
The way of ZANU PF is always that if you are aggrieved in any way by the happenings in the party you follow the party procedures. The party disciplined members know better not to wash their dirty linen in public. The spectacle being created is meant to divide the party.
Taking your own party to court is like taking yourself to court.
This case will in turn embarrass the plotters. It is a none starter a case against the legally protected become a nuisance.
Yes this was a well calculated case which presents a little headache but has no impact on the decisions made by the party.
What is clear again is the fact this case is an assault on the stability of Zimbabwe. The plotters of this case are trying to peddle the nonsense of legitimacy. In a nutshell, the defence of presidential immunity stands or falls with whole case. So the legal proceedings are a sham and should not see the light of the day.
Musengezi was supposed to exhaust the internal remedies before rushing to court.
The doctrine of exhaustion of administrative remedies says that a person challenging an agency decision must first pursue the agency’s available remedies before seeking judicial review. It was created by courts in order to promote an efficient justice system and autonomous administrative state.
Faced with a jurisdictional exhaustion requirement, courts have had to choose between diluting the concept of jurisdiction and allowing injustice.
Courts generally will demand that you have required that internal union remedies before suing an organisation.

President Mnangagwa and ZANU PF correctly argued that Musengezi should be barred because he did not exhaust all internal remedies in ZANU PF before approaching the court. They are referring to the principle that a person must exhaust internal remedies within an organization before approaching the courts for relief.”

Ordinarily, this would be a plausible argument that was upheld by the High Court in the case of Bhasikiti v ZANU PF in 2015. Bhasikiti had challenged his expulsion from ZANU PF. Justice Bhunu who presided over the matter dismissed his case on the technicality that he had not exhausted the party’s internal remedies. Bhasikiti had argued that President Mugabe was an interested party because he chaired the relevant organs of the party and would not, therefore, get a fair hearing. However, Justice Bhunu told him that Mugabe could recuse himself and allow other committee members to hear Bhasikiti’s case.
This case will apply in the present case. Sybeth should be redirected to the party and follow the procedure.
If at all there was an inch of illegality in the case the case must be thrown out because the event has happened and if there was a harm and it becomes irreparable.“The court must retain its discretion to hear a moot case where it is in the interests of justice to do so,” wrote Justice Patel in the leading judgment. Citing legal authorities, Justice Patel concluded that “the court may exercise its discretion to hear a moot issue because of its significance, practical or otherwise, and the need for an authoritative determination on that issue in the interests of justice”.
So the case before courts now has expired. There will be no positive corrective intervention if the courts are to give an order. The case is inly academic.
Judge Patel sitting in the Court of Appeal said “I take the view that the corrective intervention of this Court in the affairs of the Party is a matter of significant public importance, not only in relation to the Party and its members but also as regards the governance of political parties generally. It is necessary that the Court should deliver its definitive pronouncement on the legitimacy of the second appellant’s ascent to the presidency of the Party. It is further necessary to ensure that the leadership of the Party is constitutionally and lawfully ensconced. The imbroglio that the Party’s leadership has become entangled in may well be water under the bridge. But it is a bridge that, for the sake of the Party’s stature and credibility, needs to be correctly and systematically constructed. In short, notwithstanding the political mootness of this matter, it is imperative that there should be an authoritative determination of this appeal in the interests of justice.”
This comment by the learned Judge Patel J only applies to the party’s leadership. In the case between us the Respondent is now ring fenced by immunity and thus any case especially a mooted one will nor stick on the respondent. The noble thing to do is for Musengezi to withdraw his tome wasting application.
We tend to agree with Justice Patel that leadership must be “constitutionally and lawfully ensconced”
Musengezi forgot that Mnangagwa was fired and reinstated by the Central Committee. In short the central committee reinstated Mnangagwa back to his original position. This means that Mnangagwa became the most senior member as Mphoko had escaped. So re employment unconditionally attached the position which Mnangagwa had.
It is further true that the case is now water under the bridge and should not be allowed to waste the court’s time.

The whole case has fingerprints of the G40 cartel and the reliance on the social media is the foot print of the opposition.

While Sybeth has a right to take the case to court. He is travelling on the MDC ticket. The ticket of distraction is the one being offered by the opposition. Sybeth became a traitor. Zimbabwe must rethink the position on people who a attack the country when they ate outside. The war against zanu pf

Civil Servants Describe USD Bonus As Vote of No Confidence Against Zim Dollar

CIVIL servants yesterday said government’s decision to pay their bonuses in United States dollars was a vote of no confidence in the local currency which continues to lose value against major currencies.

Yesterday, sections of the public service started receiving their US dollar-denominated 13th cheques although the amount has been capped at US$700.

Zimbabwe Confederation of Public Sector Trade Union secretary-general David Dzatsunga told NewsDay that while the move was appreciated, civil servants had been vindicated for demanding payment of their salaries in the stable US dollar.

“We really appreciate the good sense that caused the government to come up with this measure given the chaos in the monetary system,” Dzatsunga said.

“This was also an admission of the ‘worthless’ local currency paid as salaries to civil servants.  Also in our view it is tacit admission on the part of government that the local currency is no longer really the best foot forward in terms of salaries.  We hope that it is a dry run for the introduction of the US dollar salaries and that the government will now accede to our standing demand to pay salaries in US dollar,” he added.

The civil servants have been fighting for a minimum of US$520 per month as per October 2018 salary levels.  In 2020, teachers and nurses spent the better part of the year on strike after they declared incapacitation.

Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition (CiZC)  implored the government to ensure that salaries for civil servants were commensurate with the current cost of living.

“The move by the government to pay bonuses for civil servants in US dollars vindicates claims that authorities have largely been indifferent to the plight of government workers whose salaries (paid in local currency) have often been eroded by high inflationary levels yet government has not been adjusting the salaries to suit the cost of living,” CiZC spokesperson Marvellous Khumalo said.

“The latest move to pay bonuses for civil servants in US dollars reveals the government’s lack of confidence in the local currency which continues to fall against major currencies and consequently fails to cushion government workers.

“As Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition, we view the move by the government as nothing but a campaign gimmick ahead of the 2023 polls. We reiterate our call for civil servants to continue fighting for a living wage in light of the inflationary environment in Zimbabwe.”

He urged government to negotiate with civil servants in good faith rather than employing gimmicks aimed at pacifying them like paying once-off bonuses in US dollars.

Mwonzora MP Nabbed

By A Correspondent- MDC-T proportional representation MP, Yvonne Musarurwa was arrested on Thursday on allegations of assaulting an aide to the party’s vice president Thokozani Khupe.

Musarurwa allegedly assaulted Kudzanai Mashumba without provocation at a Press conference in Harare last month.

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Senior Staff Officer (Press, Public and Int. Relations), Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident, saying some of Musarurwa’s co-accused were still to be accounted for.

He said:

Musarurwa has been arrested today (yesterday) by the police in connection with a report made by Kudzanai Mashumba (48).

It is an assault report where she was named as one of the suspects.

Musarurwa is expected to appear in court this Friday.

She was arrested after she allegedly stormed and disrupted a Press conference addressed by Mashumba who said he wanted to expose the theft of MDC-T funds by party president Douglas Mwonzora.

In 2018, Musarurwa was released from prison after serving five years for murder.

She had been convicted of murdering a police officer in Glen View, Harare, but the Supreme Court overturned the sentence.

Chiredzi Creche Owner Hauled To Court Facing Three Different Charges

By A Correspondent- The owner of an unregistered Chiredzi creche who left four children locked in her Honda CVR for hours on Tuesday morning resulting in the death of two of the children appeared in court on Thursday facing three charges.

Zhuwakina Javangwe (53) appeared before Magistrate Misheck Brian Munyaradzi charged with murder, attempted murder and violation of the Education Act.

She was not asked to plead and was remanded in custody to 9 December 2021.

Munyaradzi informed Javangwe that the matter would be heard at the High Court and he advised her to apply for bail at the same court.

Prosecuting, Moreblessing Rusere told the court that on 23 November 2021, at around 6 AM, Zhuwakina picked up 10 children from their respective homes intending to take them to her school.

She allegedly placed four children, namely Naran Chiwara, Devine Mazuyo, Innocentia Lynet Musungati and Celine Shiri in the boot of the Honda CRV and drove to Javas Day care.

On arrival, Zhuwanika made the children who were on seats disembark from the car and forgot the four in the boot. She locked her car and went to class.

The State further alleged that at 12 PM, when Zhuwanika went to her car to clean it she realised that Naran and Devine were inside.

Devine reportedly told Javangwe that Celine and Innocentia were sleeping in the boot.

The accused checked the two girls only to discover that they were dead and alerted Susan Mukaro who advised her to report the matter to the police.

Bushiri Fears Being Poisoned In South Africa

Self-styled fugitive Malawian prosperity gospel preacher Shepherd Bushiri says he will only return to South Africa if authorities promise not to “poison” him.

But, for now, it’s business as usual – with allegations that thousands of worshippers from all over the world visit him weekly in Malawi for spiritual deliverance.

In an emailed response, Bushiri’s spokesperson, Ephraim Nyondo, said: “If South Africa meets the conditions for his safety, and guarantees they will take him to trial and not poison like last time, then he will come.”

Nyondo claimed, without providing evidence, that Bushiri was poisoned in custody and that was the reason he also left.

Bushiri fled to Malawi last November after he and his wife, Mary, were granted bail at the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court in relation to fraud and money laundering. He also faces an extradition case, but no trial date has been set yet in Malawi.

“For over three years, they failed to bring him to trial, always claiming they needed more evidence. Even now, with the extradition case, they have not brought witnesses and evidence. So that’s a problem,” added Nyondo.

Malawi last week allowed churches to resume physical services – and Bushiri says South Africa is “the biggest loser” because, instead of going there, his followers are flying into Malawi for his International Visitors Programme.

“South Africa has been the biggest loser in this. Enlightened Christian Gathering Church (ECG) is bringing 10 000 people a week to Malawi. You can’t even get a hotel these days. All that is business,” said Nyondo.

Media reports in Malawi glowingly say Bushiri is that country’s latest tourism booster because he hosts travellers from across the globe. There are reports that international visitors have made Malawi’s capital, Lilongwe, a tourism hub.

Go Back Home, South Africa Tells 200k Zimbabweans

South Africa announced it will end a more than decade-old programme that allowed about 200 000 Zimbabweans to live and work in the country, weeks after a new anti-immigrant party scored spectacular electoral gains.

The Zimbabwean Exemption Permit will lapse at the end of the year and their holders will then need to apply for different kinds of visas to stay or will be deported after a 12-month period, the Cabinet said in a statement on Thursday. There are few other permits they can apply for.

South Africa has a population of about 60 million, about 3 million of whom are migrants, according to the national statistics agency. Many of those are Zimbabweans driven south by two decades of political repression and economic collapse. The majority are undocumented and the ZEP only applies to those who registered at its inception in 2009.

“It’s going to result in a humanitarian disaster,” said Sharon Ekambaram, head of the Refugee and Migrant Rights Programme at Lawyers for Human Rights in Johannesburg. “It’s a very inhumane decision.”

In a municipal vote held on 1 November, ActionSA, a party formed by former Johannesburg Mayor Herman Mashaba, won 16% of the votes in Johannesburg in its first electoral outing and a large proportion of the ballot in the capital, Pretoria. Mashaba has consistently demanded that undocumented migrants be deported. The ruling African National Congress won less than half of the vote nationally for the first time.

South Africa has been plagued by recurrent bouts of xenophobic violence since at least 2008, with foreigners often accused of taking jobs in a country where a third of the workforce is unemployed.

The announcement may be an attempt by the government to placate voters before national elections in three years, Kaajal Ramjathan-Keogh, Africa director for the International Committee of Jurists, said on Twitter.

South African Rand Sinks As New Variant Takes Grip

TOKYO, Nov 26 (Reuters) – The safe-haven yen rallied and the South African rand tumbled on Friday as investors turned cautious after Britain raised the alarm over a newly identified coronavirus variant spreading in the African nation.

The yen leapt as much as 0.56% to 114.68 per dollar, while the rand slumped to a more than one-year trough at 16.17 per dollar as concern flared about the B.1.1.529 variant, which might make vaccines less effective. read more

The risk-sensitive Australian dollar slid as much as 0.33% to a three-month low of $0.71265, ignoring a much-better-than-expected climb in retail sales. read more

“COVID worries are definitely playing a role in increasing demand for safe havens including the yen, and because South Africa is the location of this new variant, that’s an obvious reason to avoid the rand,” said Shinichiro Kadota, senior FX strategist at Barclays in Tokyo.

The British pound slipped to a new 11-month low of $1.3305.

Meanwhile, the euro rose 0.12% to $1.12185, stabilising after hitting its lowest level in nearly 17 months earlier in the week at $1.1186. Germany is considering following Austria’s lead and reimposing a COVID-19 lockdown with the continent once again the epicentre of the pandemic. read more

The dollar index – which measures the greenback against six peers, including the yen, euro and pound sterling – edged further away from Wednesday’s 96.938 – its highest level in nearly 17 months. It last traded at 96.715.

However, it was up 0.73% on the week, still headed for its fifth straight weekly gain.

Traders have ramped up bets that an increasingly hawkish Federal Reserve will lift rates by the middle of next year, while central banks in Europe, Japan and elsewhere stick to more dovish stances.

“If the COVID situation worsens, then dollar-yen could go down further, but otherwise the monetary policy divergence is definitely going to be weighing on the yen in the medium term,” said Kadota, who predicts dollar-yen will strengthen to 116 and beyond by the middle of next year.

On the flip side, 114 should provide a floor for the currency pair in the near term, “unless the world really changes for the worse,” he said.

Last week, Bank of Japan governor Haruhiko Kuroda reiterated his commitment to massive monetary stimulus, adding that the central bank stands ready to ramp it up further if necessary. read more

UK Bans Flights From Zim, SA Over New Covid-19 Varient Threats

By The Correspondent-The United Kingdom has banned flights from six southern African countries with effect from this Friday until Sunday over concerns about a new COVID-19 variant (B.1.1.529) detected in Botswana and South Africa.

From midday today, direct flights from South Africa, Botswana, Lesotho, Eswatini, Zimbabwe and Namibia are banned from Britain. Health secretary Sajid Javid said:

From midday Friday (Nov 26), South Africa, Botswana, Lesotho, Eswatini, Zimbabwe and Namibia will be added to the UK’s travel red list… Direct flights from the six countries will be banned from midday Friday until hotel quarantine is up and running from 4 am Sunday (Nov 28).

Starting from Friday, travellers to the UK, who are non-UK and Irish citizens, who have visited the six African nations within the past 10 days, will be refused entry to the UK, while the UK and Irish citizens will be required to self-isolate for 10 days.

Earlier this week, scientists from the UK had warned of the appearance of a COVID-19 strain, which contains 32 mutations, in Botswana.

The South African National Institute of Infectious Diseases later also confirmed that the new strain had been found in South Africa, with 22 cases to date.

UK scientists believe the new variant is highly transmissible and can reduce the effectiveness of current vaccines to as little as 30 per cent.

Earlier on Thursday, South Africa’s Health Minister Joe Phaahla announced the country has experienced a significant rise in new infections, particularly in Gauteng Province.

South African scientists are working to determine what percentage of the new cases have been caused by the new variant.

Museveni Mortgages Airport To The Chinese

By A Correspondent- The Ugandan government has failed to reverse a loan agreement with the Chinese, which had repayment conditions of attaching its only airport.

Reports say President Yoweri Museveni recently sent a delegation to Beijing hoping to renegotiate the toxic clauses. Still, the officials came back empty-handed as China would not allow the original deal’s terms to be varied.

On17 November 2015, the Uganda government, represented by the finance ministry and the Civil Aviation Authority at the time, signed an agreement with Export-Import Bank of China (Exim Bank) to borrow U$207 million at two per cent upon disbursement; with a maturity period of 20 years including a seven-year grace period.

It has now emerged that the deal signed with the Chinese lenders virtually means Uganda “surrendered” it’s most prominent airport.

The Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) says some provisions in the Financing Agreement expose Entebbe International Airport and other Ugandan assets to be attached and taken over by Chinese lenders upon arbitration in Beijing.

It also emerged that China has rejected pleas by Uganda to renegotiate the toxic clauses of the 2015 loan, leaving Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni’s administration in limbo.

According to the Daily Monitor of Uganda, the Ugandan government waived international immunity in the agreements it signed to secure the loans, exposing Entebbe International Airport to take over without international protection.

In desperation, Uganda in March sent a delegation to Beijing hoping to renegotiate the toxic clauses, but the officials came back empty-handed as China would not allow the terms of the original deal to be varied.

Last week, Uganda’s Finance Minister Matia Kasaija apologized to parliament for the “mishandling of the $207 million loan” from the China Exim Bank to expand Entebbe International Airport.

“I apologize that we shouldn’t have accepted some of the clauses,” Kasaija told members of the committee in response to the question over the interest rate that was set by the China Exim Bank for the funds placed in an off-shore Standard Bank account that was used as collateral for the project.

Three weeks ago, Uganda Parliament’s Committee on Commissions, Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises raised concern over terms of the loan acquired to upgrade and expand Entebbe International Airport.

Committee members led by chairperson Joel Ssenyonyi demanded the Minister for Finance, Planning and Economic Development Maria Kasaija, to explain whether due diligence had been made prior to government signing the agreement with the Chinese bank.

Ssenyonyi asked the finance minister to explain at what stage the due diligence had been done on the loan financing terms presented by China Exim Bank, noting that they were not in favour of the tax payer.

“It is right to understand how China has done this. But then, how has Uganda always done its loan agreements? This would have provided a meeting point between the two parties,” said Ssenyonyi.

A Legal Adviser at the finance ministry told the committee that they reviewed the agreement, especially on the waiver of immunity and added that some conditions could not be negotiated.

“The President on his trip to China, raised this as one of the challenges that China ought to address in our agreement,” Apio told the committee.

Progress of works at the airport has reached 75.2 per cent, with two runways having reached overall completion of 100 per cent.

The phase one project that commenced on 10 May 2016, was expected to have been completed by 09 May 2021. It was extended to 05 December 2022.

Built-in 1972, Entebbe International Airport is Uganda’s only international airport and handles over 1,9 million passengers per year. Its seizure by China would greatly dent Museveni’s legacy and expose him to election defeat.

Museveni, who came to power on the back of an armed uprising in 1986, has defied the political laws of gravity which have felled other long-serving leaders in the region.

The 77-year-old’s has managed to maintain his grip on power through a mixture of encouraging a personality cult, employing patronage, compromising independent institutions and sidelining opponents.

During the last election a year ago when he addressed the issue of stepping down, he asked: “How can I go out of a banana plantation I have planted that has started bearing fruits?”

Mashwede Pays US$50 000 For ED Scarf

By A Correspondent- A Harare businessman, Alex Elias Mashamhanda, has bought President Mnangagwa’s regalia for US$35 000.

Last Friday, the Mashwede holdings owner bought Mnangagwa’s scarf and a tie at a dinner hosted by the President at the State House to fundraise for a scholarship programme.

The 71-year-old Mashamhanda paid the US$35 000 without thinking twice. As if that was not head-turning enough, “Dr Mash” pledged another US$50,000.

A recent report identified Mashamhanda as one of the business tycoons who coughed up over US$755,000 at another State House event buying buying “A life of Sacrifice”, the book that details President Mnangagwa’s life.

Cornered Zanu PF Labels British Pigs

By A Correspondent-Zanu PF Director of Information Tafadzwa Mugwadi on Wednesday described British politicians as “pink pigs” in response to a call by UK Lords for President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government to end human rights violations.

On Tuesday, UK MPs in the House of Lords criticised the Government of Zimbabwe’s brutal clampdown on critics and protestors in the first half of 2021.

Lord St. John Blesto said the British government would only support Zimbabwe’s bid to rejoin the Commonwealth when Harare restores the rule of law. He said:

Our UK Government will only support Zimbabwe’s bid to rejoin the Commonwealth when the rule of law is restored, and the freedom of speech and political freedoms are protected.

In response, Mugwadi called UK MPs “Lilliputians”, that is, a trivial or very small person or thing. Said Mugwadi:

We defeated regime change long ago during war-monger Tony Blair’s time. It is scandalous for these Lilliputians to make noise about a nation whose name they can hardly pronounce.

The UK Embassy and UK Ambassador to Zimbabwe Melanie Robinson must be the most embarrassed by such classical stupidity. Sit down pink pigs!

Tony Blair was British Prime Minister when relations between the UK and Zimbabwe deteriorated at the turn of the Millenium.

This comes as Mnangagwa has been trying to re-establish cordial relations between Zimbabwe and western powers.

The international community accuses Mnangagwa of reneging on his promises to return Zimbabwe into a democracy after he was handed power by the military following a coup against long-time ruler Robert Mugabe in 2017.

MDC-Alliance Confronts Abusive Chiwenga

By A Correspondent- The opposition MDC-Alliance has spoken on the abuse of the wife of the Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, Marry by the former Army Boss.

AFM Power Struggles Reach Boiling Point

By A Correspondent- Apostolic Faith Mission (AFM) in Zimbabwe, president Reverend Amon Dubie Madawo has approached the High Court seeking to evict eight pastors from properties owned by the church.

The pastors are Hosmani Manyame, Epworth Assembly, Alphonce Gonah (Glaudina Assembly), Abraham Mapfumo (Tsimerenyasha Assembly, Hurungwe), Simon Nyahwema (Chizinga Assembly, Mhondoro), Tawanda Chikwanda (Dondoshava, Mhondoro), Samson Saranavo (Beatrice Assembly), Mutambika Jack Mumba (Mbudzirume Assembly, Mhondoro) and Abraham Masamba (Southlea Park, Harare)

According to separate applications at the High Court, AFM claims the eight pastors were all dismissed in 2018 hence all ties with them must be cut.

Madawo’s application in respect of Manyame, the former pastor of AFM Epworth Assembly reads in part:

I, the undersigned Amon Dubie Madawo do hereby make oath and state that I am the AFM in Zimbabwe’s president and in my capacity as such, I am authorized to depose to this founding affidavit.

This is an application to this Honourable Court for eviction of Hosmani Manyame and all those claiming occupation through him from AFM church’s premises being described as Stand 5194 Cornerstone, Epworth, Harare which premises the respondent is in unlawful occupation and possession of.

At all material times, the church was the owner and remains the owner of a mission house and church building at Stand 5194 Cornerstone, Epworth, Harare.

Manyame was once employed by the church as a pastor for the said assembly.

His occupation of the said premises was a result of him being an AFM pastor though he was subsequently dismissed as such in the year 2018.

Madawo argued that Manyame and the other seven pastors are aligned to the church’s former vice president Cossam Chiangwa’s faction that lost in a recent Supreme Court battle that declared him a winner.

He claims the eight pastors have no basis to continue benefiting from the church’s properties.

Donated Chinese-Parly Building Ready By March 2022 | IS IT NECESSARY?

The New Parliament Building in Mt Hampden is expected to be complete in March next year, a Cabinet Minister said yesterday after a tour of the multi-million-dollar project.
High-ranking Government officials including Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi; Local Government and Public Works Minister July Moyo and the Deputy Minister of Finance and Economic Development Clemence Chiduwa visited the project site for an assessment of the imposing building.

Minister Ziyambi said the high-powered delegation toured the project to assess progress and to engage the contractor over the time frame within which the construction would be complete.

“The contractor assured us that by March next year, the building will be complete and once that is done we expect all parliament business to move to the more spacious building,” he said.

“Now that we have been informed when the construction is going to be complete, it will give us sufficient time to make preparations for the official opening of the New Parliament Building.”

Minister Ziyambi said the next Budget presentation would be done at the new Parliament which can accommodate far more legislators.

He added that project was in sync with the aspirations of the country’s economic blueprint, the National Development Strategy 1 which recognises infrastructure development as a key economic enabler.

Deputy Minister Chiduwa said the NDS1 thrust included infrastructure development and the project resonated with the State’s agenda of infrastructure as a key economic enabler.

The six storey Parliament building will house the upper Senate chamber and the Lower House of Assembly as well as a multi-purpose gallery and offices.

The project is being funded by the Chinese Government through China Aid in support of Zimbabwe’s infrastructure development thrust. -Herald

“No Individual Can Be Bigger Than Zimbabwe”- Kasukuwere

– “Terror the human form divine” W Blake foretold

By Nomusa Garikai | Anyone who read the latest remarks from Zanu PF former Cabinet Minister Saviour Kasukuwere must have laughed their head off. What is the idiot wittering about, they must have asked themselves!

“People must unite and deal with common challenges. No individual can be bigger than Zimbabwe,” Kasukuwere was quoted by NewsDay.

Saviour Kasukuwere

“It must never be about an individual or opposition, but it is about survival of the people of Zimbabwe. Let us create conditions for a greater Zimbabwe and stability, greater peace and no one must be scared of their future in Zimbabwe. We must have hope.”

Here is the man who made a virtue of riding roughshod over the people of Zimbabwe denying them their basic freedoms and rights including the right to a meaningful say in the governance of the country and even the right to life. Zanu PF murdered in cold blood over 30 000 innocent Zimbabweans during Mugabe’s reign of terror for the sole purpose of creating and retaining the de facto one party state headed by Robert Mugabe.

Kasukuwere, together with all the other Zanu PF thugs, played his party in creating and retaining the de facto one party dictatorship in which Mugabe was certainly “bigger” than Zanu PF, the party, which in turn was bigger than Zimbabwe, the nation. Mugabe only lost his top-dog position in the November 2017 military coup that booted Mugabe, Kasukuwere and a few other G40 members out of the party and, for some, out of the country.

“No individual is greater than the nation. We need to admit that and ask ourselves tough questions before we do the right thing. The rule of law and property rights should be protected. We need a better country for every Zimbabwean,” continued Kasukuwere.

What a hypocrite, he never ever asked any of these questions before and certainly did not cared about the rule of law and the heartbreaking suffering of the down trodden povo until now.

Saviour Kasukuwere and his fellow G40 members were angry to find themselves being booted out of power by Mnangagwa and his Lacoste faction. The G40 members must have turned jet-black with envy when they saw the Zimbabwe public pouring out in the hundreds of thousands in support of the November coup.

“People were desperate to see the back of Mugabe, they were relived to see it happen and did not care how it happened!” some one rationalised at the time.

Desperate people do desperate things!

It is exactly four years ago this month since the November 2017 military coup and already it is clear that none of the economic recovery and political changes the people had hoped for will happen.

Mnangagwa’s “Zimbabwe is open for business!” mantra that expected to open the floodgates of investors, for example; was a lead balloon that never took off. Investors are a shrewd and savvy lot; they could see the coup removed one dictator only to replace him with another whilst the dictatorship itself remained untouched.

The disillusionment with Mnangagwa and his “new dispensation and Second Republic” has been total so that many now readily admit their euphoria four years ago was total misplace. They now call the 15 November 2017 “Dzungu Day!” (Madness Day!)

The mass disillusionment with Mnangagwa and has Lacoste faction has given G40 leaders hope that they too can present themselves to the nation as the country’s saviours.

If the people were so desperate for change in November 2017 they failed to see the post coup Zanu PF was the same dictatorship or be it under new management; G40 are hoping to pull off the same dirty trick on the people again! All Kasukuwere and company must do is put up a show, that they care and have a human heart.

Cruelty has a human heart,

And Jealousy a human face,

Terror the human form divine,

And Secrecy the human dress.

Mnangagwa Legacy Of Tormenting Women

Tinashe Sambiri|Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa is the biggest perpetrator of gender- based violence, MDC Alliance Youth Assembly spokesperson Stephen Sarkozy Chuma has said.

Mr Mnangagwa’s administration is known for terrorising perceived government opponents – especially women.

See statement below:

16 Days Against GBV: Mnangagwa The Biggest Perpetrator

25-11-2021

Chimbiri, Mamombe and Marova’s nervous conditions.

It has been exactly 19 months, 577 days or 83 weeks of hell for our female youth leaders at the hands of the unrepentant Emmerson Mnangagwa’s regime.

As we kick start the 16 days against gender based violence commemorations today, let’s spare a thought for Cecillia Chimbiri, Joana Mamombe and Netsai Marova who had to endure 577 days of defeminization and humiliation at the hands the state.

Our female youth leaders have been toyed around from one court to another, at times exchanging court for Chikurubi for the simple reason that they chose to speak up against abuse suffered at the hands of state .

Since their abduction from Harare Central Police Station, (yes from police custody) no one from Mnangagwa’s government has come upfront to answer the public question as to what happened to our girls.

As if the abduction, torture and sexual abuse was not enough, instead the regime unashamedly went on to press cooked up charges of faking abduction against the trio.

Since then our girls have been moving around the Rotten Row courts with a litany of unjustified charges hanging over their heads.

Even during this week when the government is expected to send correct messages about gender based violence, our girls have been hoping from one court to another expecting finality to a case that has dragged on for over one and half years now.

Clearly the idea of Mnangagwa’s regime is to exert emotional torture to our girls.

A Legacy Of Woman Abuse

Again the regime chose a few days before this year’s commemorations against 16 days against gender based violence before sending a frail and bed ridden Mary Chiwenga to Chikurubi.

The message from the government to public is clear- women rights are not important!

What of Kembo Mohadi’s (Mnangagwa’s VP) office sexual abuse of his subordinates?

The list of women abuse cases at the hands of state and high ranking government officials under Mnangagwa is endless.

Clearly, Mnangagwa’s regime is the biggest perpetrator of gender based violence.

Stop women abuse and gender based violence!

Half Naked Corpse Found By Grade 5 Pupils

In a suspected murder case, 2 Grade 5 pupils stumbled on a dumped half naked corpse.

The body, which was discovered by the two learners at around 7AM, had bruises and deep cuts raising suspicions that the deceased could have been killed and dumped in the school yard.

The deceased has been identified as Mr Musawakhe Nceku Mthunzi (21). When a Chronicle news crew arrived at the school, detectives from the CID homicide were already at the scene conducting investigations.

Stunned residents who wanted to catch a glimpse of the body, were milling in front of the school gate after they were blocked from entering the school yard.

Musawakhe’s father, Mr Japhet Mthunzi, who lives in the rural areas of Matobo in Matabeleland South, came and managed to positively identify his son before the body was ferried to the United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH) mortuary.

Musawakhe was Mr Mthunzi’s last born from four children. Speaking at a local funeral parlour on Wednesday, Mr Mthunzi said his son was last seen drinking at the shops called koBasic.

“When I got home on Saturday, my wife told me that Musa had not come home since Friday. I had come to see her because she wasn’t feeling well. I went around asking his friends until Sunday.

I thought he had been arrested for not wearing a mask and was detained at the police station or he was caught drinking in public,” said Mr Mthunzi.

He said on Monday he decided to go to Tshabalala Police Station to see if he could pay the fine for his son.

“When I was on my way there, I don’t know what made me change direction towards the school, my heart just said divert this route.

When I got to the school, I saw people gathered there and, in my head, I’m thinking that there was a fight and then I enquired what was happening. I was then told that the body of a man was found in the school,” said Mr Mthunzi.

He said people were not allowed to enter the school premises but because he was looking for Musawakhe, he forced his way in.

“I asked inside and they said, the person had a black t-shirt. I then phoned my wife and asked what he was wearing when he was last seen and she said a black t-shirt. I then asked the people again, they said he was wearing a jean and I phoned my wife again and she said he was wearing a jean, but I didn’t tell her.

One of the employees at the school who knows me because my children learnt there said to me, ‘mdala ungabalomnyama’.” Mr Mthunzi said he was then given a chair while police did their investigations, thereafter he was asked by police to identify the body.

“He was facing up. When I looked at him, I immediately said this is my child. I was so pained and I did not know how to break the bad news to my wife. The police took me in their car to our house about 2KM from the school.

I was accompanied by a female and two male police officers who broke the news to my wife,” said Mr Mthunzi.

He said a post mortem report says he was hit several times on the head and that caused bleeding in the brain.

Mr Mthunzi believes his son was beaten up on Friday night and either tried to run away from the assailants by scaling the school’s wall or he was dumped there by the attackers.

Musawakhe was buried in Bulawayo yesterday.

Director of Communications and Advocacy in the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, Mr Taungana Ndoro said lessons at Intunta Primary School resumed on Tuesday, a day after the body was discovered and the pupils are being counselled.

“To provide learner support services in light of the traumatic experience they underwent, they are given psychological services by our department Learner Welfare, Special Needs and Psychological Services Department.

We have psychologists in the ministry who attend to those learners and provide learner support services,” he said.

“It was just a suspension of lessons for that day and they are now back to school. The same psychologists take time to address the learners at the school class by class. They must have gone there and counselled the learners by now.”

On Monday, a teacher who declined to be named said school authorities had to dismiss learners early.

“Our bosses from the provincial education offices came and directed us to cancel school lessons and dismiss the learners because there was no other way children would pay attention in class after witnessing such a horrific incident.

In fact, the two learners who discovered the body were traumatised,” said the teacher. “Everyone at school was shocked and even the security guard manning the yard was equally shocked as he didn’t witness any scuffle or see the body being dumped.

Acting Bulawayo provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele confirmed the incident saying police were investigating the suspected murder case. Chronicle

MDC Alliance Statement On 16 Days Of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence

MDC ALLIANCE ASSEMBLY OF WOMEN COMMEMORATES THE 16 DAYS OF ACTIVISM AGAINST GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE – 25 NOVEMBER-10 DECEMBER 2021

The MDC A Assembly of Women joins the rest of the world in commemorating the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-based Violence under the theme, Gender-based Violence: a barrier to gender equality, whilst the UN theme is Orange the World: End violence against Women Now.

The commemorations will be held in all the 10 Provinces where the National Leaders led by Chairperson, Machirairwa Mugidho will address the women. The main event, which is the launch will be held in Bulawayo on the 4th of November 2021 and every participant, will be dressed in orange.

According to UN Women, cases of GBV have continued to raise as seen during covid 19 pandemic and recent humanitarian crises, conflicts and climate disasters. While pervasive, gender based violence is not inevitable and can be prevented. Stopping GBV starts with believing survivors, adopting comprehensive and inclusive approaches that tackle the root causes, transforming harmful social, cultural norms and empowering women and girls.

Therefore, the government needs to come up with survivor- centred essential services across policing, justice, health and social sectors and sufficient financing for the women’s rights agenda in order to end gender based violence.

The AOW will also be commemorating the following days that fall within the 16 Days of Activism;
25 Nov – International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women
1 Dec – World Aids Day
3 Dec – International Day of Persons with Disabilities
5 Dec – International Volunteer Day
10 Dec – Human Rights Day

The Assembly of Women will also be popularising the Gender Policy, formulated by the Smart Gender Drive Task Force which seeks to achieve gender equality and empower women and girls in the party and making sure that female candidates increase in the upcoming elections.

It is our belief as the Assembly of Women that gender equality will eliminate gender based violence as women and men will be having equal opportunities and treating each other equally.

Chibuku Super Cup: Mapeza Banks On Home Advantage

THE Chibuku Super Cup final match between FC Platinum and Ngezi Platinum Stars will be played at Mandava Stadium in Zvishavane, the Premier League announced yesterday.

The blockbuster clash between the two platinum cousins is set for December 4, and will kick off at 2pm.

FC Platinum beat Dynamos in the semifinals of the competition while Ngezi Platinum Stars secured their place in the finals after edging Craneborne Bullets.

The final will be returning to Mandava for the first time since 2014, when FC Platinum beat Harare City on penalties to clinch the title.

FC Platinum coach Norman Mapeza would again banking on the home ground advantage as the team looks to clinch their second Chibuku Super Cup title.

It would be Mapeza’s third appearance in the tournament finals, having won and lost once before.

Ngezi Platinum Stars hosted the tournament’s quarterfinal games at their Baobab Stadium in Mhondoro Ngezi.

The two teams will be meeting in the final for the second time, having met in 2016 when Ngezi claimed the bragging rights.

Winners of this match will receive US$75 000 while the losing finalist will get a US$50 000 consolation.

Ngezi Platinum Stars coach Rodwell Dhlakama is expecting an exciting final match, between two teams which he thinks are a level above the rest of the top-flight league teams.

“The fact that we are in the final means a lot about the depth and the quality in our ranks, both FC Platinum and Ngezi Platinum Stars,” Dhlakama said.

The two well-resourced sides were in the same pool in the group stages of the competition and managed to cancel out each other on the two occasions that they met.

After finishing second in the group, Ngezi Platinum Stars went on to beat Chicken Inn in the quarter-finals before slaying giant killers Cranborne Bullets.

On-fire striker Bruno Mtigo scored the only goal for the match, which took his goal tally in the competition to an incredible seven.

“I’m elated, excited to be in the finals. I’m happy for the boys and the supporters. I’m also happy for the management of the team because they are very supportive. They always look after the players very well. The community is happy, and everyone is excited,” Dhlakama said.

It’s the second time he will be taking charge of the team in the Chibuku Super Cup final, having lost in 2019 to Highlanders in controversial circumstances.

“It’s now water under the bridge for me and for the players. We are looking forward to this final,” he said.

“We are working hard as a team. There is enthusiasm, determination and fighting spirit. We are fighting in every game and competition that we enter into. We always want to do well.”

FC Platinum have been almost flawless in the competition so far, finishing top in their group. They got the better of Highlanders in the quarters, and then needed extra time to subdue Dynamos in the semis, ending the Harare giants’ 12-match unbeaten run in the process.

AFM Power Struggles Escalate

Chamisa Speaks On Marry Chiwenga Abuse

By A Correspondent- The opposition MDC-Alliance has spoken on the abuse of the wife of the Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, Marry by the former Army Boss.

New Covid-19 Variant Emerges In SA, Botswana

By A Correspondent- Scientists are monitoring a new Covid-19 variant with an “extremely high number” of mutations that has been detected in SA, Botswana and Hong Kong.Only 10 cases have been confirmed in the three countries by genomic sequencing but there is concern that the number of mutations could enable the virus to evade immunity, reports The Guardian.
Dr Tom Peacock, a virologist at Imperial College London, posted details of the new variant on a genome-sharing website.
Peacock said the high number of spike mutations suggested the B.1.1.529 variant could be of concern but added that it could also be an “odd cluster” that was not very transmissible.
Scientists will monitor the variant to determine if it gains momentum.
Meanwhile, Covid-19 infections are on the rise in Gauteng, with more than 1,000 new cases recorded in the province in the past 24 hours.
The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) said on Wednesday there were 1,018 new cases recorded in Gauteng in the past day. On Tuesday, there were 605.
In total across the country, there were 1,275 new cases.
University of KwaZulu-Natal geneticist Prof Tulio de Oliveira told the Sunday Times: “At present, there are early warning signs from the laboratory data that a fourth wave may be starting in Gauteng.”

Child Marriages, Machaya Husband Released

By A Correspondent- The High Court has freed Hatirarami Momberume, who is facing murder charges following the death of his 14-year-old child bride, Anna Machaya.

Justice Isaac Muzenda put the State to task, saying it must prove the essential elements of murder regarding the case.

The State is struggling to prove the essential elements of a murder charge in the 26-year-old murder case.

Anna died on 15 July 2021 at a Marange religious shrine in Manicaland due to complications while giving birth. The State preferred a murder charge against Momberume as the death of Anna led to an international outcry against laxity in Zimbabwe’s laws to punish offenders of child marriages.

Now, High Court Judge Justice Isaac Muzenda has put the State to task saying it must prove the essential elements of murder with regards to the case.

This came after the accused, through his defense counsel, argued that the pregnancy was not the cause of death, but complications during delivery hence the midwives who failed to do their duty should be the ones charged with murder.

The Judge noted that the State therefore has a mandate to prove how the accused was involved in the death of Machaya or risk having to drop the murder charges.

If the State drops the murder charge, the only option left would be to charge Momberume with having sexual intercourse with a young person under Section 70 of the Constitution, law experts say.

The death of Anna Machaya sparked widespread outrage on social media, drawing condemnation from rights groups, communities and the United Nations.

Meanwhile, Momberume has been freed on ZW$50 000 bail. Trial will continue at a later date.

Ramaphosa Throws Zimbabweans Under The Bus

By A Correspondent- South Africa’s Cabinet on Wednesday resolved to discontinue the issuance of special dispensation permits which had been extended to over 200 000 Zimbabweans working in that country since 2009.

As a relief measure, South Africa will allow a 12-month grace period at the expiry of the current ZEP on December 31.

The State-owned Herald newspaper reports that South Africa’s Cabinet spokespersonPhumla Williams said those Zimbabweans who previously benefited from the special dispensation permits were now free to apply for other permits appropriate to their particular status or situation.

“Cabinet considered the much-talked about ZEP and also noted the fake news being spread on these permits,” she said.

“The first Zimbabwean special dispensation started in 2009 and was called the Dispensation for Zimbabwe Permit. It provided for the documentation of qualifying Zimbabweans for a five-year period.

“In 2014, the dispensation was extended by three years and called the Zimbabwean Special Permit. The current ZEP was initiated in 2017 and comes to an end on 31 December 2021.

“Following its deliberations, Cabinet decided to no longer issue extensions to the Zimbabwean special dispensations. However, it decided on a 12-month grace period at the expiry of the current ZEP.”

She said that at the end of the 12-month grace period, those who will have failed to successfully apply for other permits will have to leave South Africa or be deported.

Recently, the Migration Policy Institute (MPI) said the major reason for the migration in Africa, which usually ended up in South Africa, was “due to its middle-income status, stable democratic institutions, and comparatively industrialised economy”.

It said South Africa hosted the largest number of immigrants on the African continent. Official South African government statistics say 2.9 million people living in South Africa are foreigners.

The majority, 24% are from Zimbabwe, followed by Mozambique with 12%. Lesotho 7%, Malawi 3%, Botswana, Eswatini, Angola, Somalia each contribute 2% to the foreign population.

Businessman Buys Mnangagwa’s Scarf For US$50 000

Lesson 9

Memory Text:
But from there you will seek the Lord your God, and you will find Him if you seek Him with all your heart and with all your soul’ ” (Deuteronomy 4:29, NKJV).

INTRODUCTION

Asimple fact of life follows us all: we are sinful. Occasionally we h ear some “expert” bemoan the Christian idea of basic human corruption, but all one has to do is look at the news for a day or so or take a quick survey of human history, and the truthfulness of this Christian doctrine becomes apparent.

Or, even easier, all one has to do is look in the mirror; not that far, actually. Whoever has the courage to take a long look deep inside one’s own heart (which can be a scary place to go) knows the truthfulness of Romans 3:9-23, which ends with the words “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Rom. 3:23, NKJV).

Of course, the good news is found in the next verse, about being “justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus” (Rom. 3:24, NKJV). Crucial to this great news is repentance: acknowledging our sin; being sorry for it; asking God’s forgiveness for it; and, ultimately, turning away from it. Because we are sinful, repentance should be a central part of our Christian existence. And this week, we will see the idea of repentance as expressed in Deuteronomy.

SABBATH: The heart of man is evil & he cannot change it. The world today has sunk deeply into the pit of sin. The idea of basic human corruption has been echoed since eternity past after the fall. All one need to do is to look at the man in the mirror; to do self-introspection. “All have sinned” (Rom. 3:9-24). But Christ offers grace to all. The lesson details the great news of repentance & God’s forgiveness.

SUNDAY: God, the source of every right impulse in man, the Maker of space, time, & matter wish for man to be holy. In many verses in the Bible, “Oh” is translated from the Hebrew idiom “Mi-Yitten” (see Exod. 16:3, Ps. 14:7, Job 6:8). Mi-Yitten is a expression of a wish or desire. The One who breathed into Adam the breath of life utter this phrase to depict man’s sins & the reality of freewill (Deut. 5:22-29).

MONDAY: Interwoven in the Bible is the proof of the foreknowledge of God. He accurately predicted the rise & fall of world empires & events leading to the death of Christ (Dan. 7 & Matt. 26:34). God knows the end from the beginning. He has foreknowledge of our free choices but it does not impact the freedom of those choices (Deut. 4:25-31). He knew Israel will sin but led them to Canaan anyway.

TUESDAY: Sadly, after the fall sin became the breath of man. The heart of man was set on doing evil. However, we reap what we sow. Good deeds bring blessings & bad deeds attract curses (Gal. 6:7, ?. Israel fell into the sin of idolatry but God was willing to take them back (Deut. 30:1-11). “Teshuvah” (root word for “turn”) means “to return”. God called Israel “to return” to Him & be saved (Deut. 30:2, 8, 10).

WEDNESDAY: Israel had no excuse to sin against God (Deut. 4:7). He blessed the nation, she tasted His grace & bountiful favors. Yet, most men in Israel were unconverted in heart. The carnal heart is enmity against God. A transformed heart ushers in positive actions. God called the people to come to Him & He’d circumcise their hearts (Deut. 30:1-10). They had to make a choice (Acts 5:31, PP, p. 557).

THURSDAY: Repentance is feeling sorrow for sin & turning away from it. Both John the Baptist & Christ began their ministry with calls for repentance (see Matt. 3:1-8, Mark 1:15). In repentance, we “return” to God. In the Biblical repentance, one does not feel sorrow for sin because of the fear of its results but because he/she is convicted in mind & heart; feels guilt & yearn to be holy (Deut. 15:15, Acts 2:37).

FRIDAY: “How shall a man be just with God? How shall the sinner be made righteous? It is only through Christ that we can be brought into harmony with God.” God invites all sinners to return to Him & taste His forgiveness & grace. We should make the prayer of Paul our own; I know that in me is nothing good (Rom. 7:18). We should rely solely on God (Ezek. 36:31, 16:62, 63). God is good! (Rom. 2:4,Jer. 31:3).

Discussion Questions

? Though we must repent, how can we be careful to avoid the trap of making repentance into something meritorious, as if the act of repenting itself is what makes us right before God? What is the only way we can be right before God?

? “Then Judas, His betrayer, seeing that He had been condemned, was remorseful and brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders, saying, ‘I have sinned by betraying innocent blood.’ And they said, ‘What is that to us? You see to it!’ Then he threw down the pieces of silver in the temple and departed, and went and hanged himself” (Matt. 27:3-5, NKJV). No doubt Judas was sorry for what he had done to Jesus (after all, he killed himself). Why, though, are his actions not deemed true repentance?

? How should the reality of human sinfulness, even our own sinfulness, keep us humble before others (in that we don’t judge them) and before God? Why should the fact that it took the cross (i.e., the death of the Son of God) to save us show us just how bad sin really is?

Zimbabweans Lose SA Permit Challenge

By A Correspondent- South Africa’s Cabinet on Wednesday resolved to discontinue the issuance of special dispensation permits, which had been extended to over 200 000 Zimbabweans working in that country since 2009.

That Speech By Chiwenga Shows Discord And Desperation Within Zanu

By Dudzai Mukondorongwe| By now everyone will have watched a video of Chiwenga at a rally where he was declaring his support for Mnangagwa, by saying that he and others will be willing to break the Constitution to make sure that Mnangagwa stays in power forever.

Election Watchdog Challenges ZEC Suspension Of Voter Registration Blitz

Zimbabwe Election Advocacy Trust Information:

ZEC’s unilateral suspension of voter registration blitz which was scheduled to take place next month is very capricious and calamitous.Voter registration is very key as it affords citizens their fundamental rights and also determine delimitation outcomes. We are shocked by this unbecoming behavior ZEC is exhibiting. The reasons they are giving are frivolous and vexatious and only confirm that they are indeed not an honest election broker.Election management must be conducted professionally and cordially. In equal measure we take this opportunity to express our displeasure on the Ministry of Finance’s poor funding of important State institutions like ZEC and Registrar’s office.Such induced deficiency is shrinking democratic space and acts against the constitution.

Emmerson Mnangagwa The Biggest Perpetrator Of Gender-Based Violence

Tinashe Sambiri|Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa is the biggest perpetrator of gender- based violence, MDC Alliance Youth Assembly spokesperson Stephen Sarkozy Chuma has said.

Mr Mnangagwa’s administration is known for terrorising perceived government opponents – especially women.

16 Days Against GBV: Mnangagwa The Biggest Perpetrator
