Qoki-Welshman’s Ponzi Scam Calls for AGM To Distract “Woodville” Investors
Ponzi Scheme Directly Controlled by Professor Welshman Ncube Faces Legal Challenges Amid AGM Announcement.
By Business Reporter| Sithule Tshuma, a key operator in a Ponzi scheme directly controlled by Professor Welshman Ncube, has announced an Annual General Meeting (AGM) for a subgroup involved in this fraudulent operation, known as Woodville. This announcement comes amid ongoing legal turmoil, with over 27 investors having already secured quick-refunds through multiple court verdicts between Zimbabwe and the UK.
Was it voluntary work when you @Welshman_Ncube popped up representing Sithule Tshuma at Bulawayo Central Police Station?(When Ezra Sibanda reported Sithule Tshuma for cyber bullying, you went to Bulawayo Central Police Station to put a statement with the cops investigating the… https://t.co/8FBIlBDbE3

Professor Welshman Ncube exerts comprehensive control over this scheme at three critical levels: he is the legal representative for both the scheme’s founders and the defrauded victims, and he oversees his publicist, Jimmy Chasafara, a principal accomplice in the scam. The scheme has been a lucrative fraud, deceptively raising over USD 25 million by predominantly selling agricultural land to unsuspecting diaspora women with false promises of converting these lands into residential plots.
The scheduled AGM, set for June 1, 2024, at the Holiday Inn on Minerton Drive, Bulawayo, at 09:00 hours, is seen as a strategic move by Tshuma to potentially deflect responsibility. The announced agenda “to map a way forward with TCI” has intensified concerns among investors about a possible ploy to transfer liability to another entity, risking their ability to claim rightful refunds.
Legal experts are advising investors to skip the AGM and instead take direct action by formally demanding their refunds in writing, emphasizing the established fraudulent nature of the scheme. This case continues to unfold, with ongoing coverage and detailed analysis available on the ZimEye news network, shedding light on the ramifications for Professor Ncube’s political influence and the affected members of the diaspora.- ZimEye
Neville Mutsvangwa Spends Weekend In Jail
By Court Correspondent | The High Court of Zimbabwe has reserved judgment on the bail application of Neville Mutsvangwa, who now faces the prospect of spending another weekend in remand prison. Mutsvangwa, implicated in serious allegations, is charged with three counts of illegal foreign currency dealings and one count of possessing an unlicensed Starlink router. These charges place him at the center of a notable legal and economic controversy.
Josephine Sande, Mutsvangwa’s legal representative, presented arguments for bail, contending that the prosecution’s case against her client and his co-accused—Elias Majachani and Simbarashe Tichingana—is weak. Sande criticized the remand court’s decision to deny bail, asserting that it was based on erroneous considerations. She argued that the evidence against Mutsvangwa, which included several Visa cards seized from his residence in Mount Pleasant, was not only insubstantial but also irrelevant to the charges of illegal currency trading and money laundering.
Sande’s legal argument emphasized that mere possession of Visa cards does not constitute a criminal offense nor does it necessarily imply involvement in illicit financial activities. This point is pivotal in challenging the assumptions underpinning the prosecution’s case and the remand court’s rationale for denying bail.
The decision by Mr. Mangosi in the magistrates’ court to deny bail was predicated on the fear that Mutsvangwa and his co-accused might abscond if released. This concern is typical in cases involving significant financial crimes, where the stakes are high and the accused have the means to evade legal proceedings. The court’s caution is reflective of a broader judicial discretion intended to prevent interference with the administration of justice.
The High Court’s reservation of judgment indicates a deliberate and careful consideration of the arguments presented by both the defense and the prosecution. This pause in the decision-making process signifies the complexities involved in balancing the rights of the accused with the interests of public and economic security.

Themba Gorimbo Clinches Unanimous Decision Victory at UFC Vegas 92
By Sports Reporter | ZimEye | In a tightly contested matchup that unfolded at UFC Vegas 92, Themba Gorimbo emerged victorious in a unanimous decision over Ramiz Brahimaj. The fight, while lacking in explosive exchanges, showcased Gorimbo’s tactical prowess and resilience in the face of Brahimaj’s relentless pressure.
Throughout the bout, Gorimbo strategically utilized his height and strength advantage to control the pace of the fight, particularly in the clinch where he repeatedly outmuscled Brahimaj along the fence. Despite Brahimaj’s attempts to execute trips and takedowns, Gorimbo showcased impeccable defense, thwarting his opponent’s grappling advances and maintaining dominant positions.
While the fight may have lacked the fireworks expected by fans, every victory counts in the unforgiving arena of mixed martial arts. For Gorimbo, this win holds a deeper significance as he dedicated his triumph to the memory of his boxing coach’s mother, who tragically succumbed to cancer just a week prior. This poignant gesture adds a layer of emotion to Gorimbo’s victory, highlighting the camaraderie and support within the MMA community.
With this triumph, Gorimbo solidifies his position as a rising star in the welterweight division, extending his winning streak to three consecutive victories inside the Octagon. As he continues to hone his skills and ascend the ranks, Gorimbo’s determination and resilience serve as a testament to his unwavering commitment to success in the world of mixed martial arts.- ZimEye
Zuma Defeating Ramaphosa?
By Donald J Mamba | Comment | Jacob Zuma defeating the African National Congress (ANC) in the May 2024 election involves several complex factors, including his political influence, public perception, and the dynamics within South African politics. As of now, several points should be considered:
1. Jacob Zuma’s Political Position: Zuma has been a divisive figure within the ANC and South African politics at large. His presidency was marred by allegations of corruption and governance challenges, which have damaged his reputation and influence. His ability to challenge the ANC directly or lead another party to victory against it would heavily depend on his ability to rehabilitate his political image and gather significant support.
2. Formation of a New Party or Coalition: If Zuma were to attempt to defeat the ANC, he would likely need to either form a new political party or align with existing opposition parties. The success of such a venture would depend on his ability to present a credible alternative to the ANC, attracting a broad base of support that transcends his traditional Zulu base and personal loyalists.
3. Public and Voter Sentiment: The South African public’s trust in Jacob Zuma has been severely impacted by his legal troubles and the general perception of his administration’s governance. Overcoming this sentiment and persuading a majority of voters to support him or his platform against the ANC would require significant shifts in public opinion, likely driven by new political narratives or significant socio-economic developments.
4. ANC’s Dominance: The ANC has been the dominant political force in South Africa since the end of apartheid in 1994. Despite internal factions and decreasing popularity due to various issues, the party retains a strong organizational structure and significant electoral support. Overcoming this would require a monumental and coordinated effort.
Tshabangu Accuses Job Sikhala Of Betraying Country
By A Correspondent
In a heated exchange of accusations, the interim Secretary General of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), Senator Sengezo Tshabangu, has accused Job Sikhala of betraying Zimbabwe by aligning with foreign adversaries.
The controversy arose following Sikhala’s remarks at the Geneva Summit for Human Rights and Democracy earlier this week, where he condemned Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration for tormenting citizens.
Sikhala, a prominent opposition figure, took the international stage to criticize the Zimbabwean government, highlighting what he described as systemic oppression and human rights abuses.
His speech resonated with many human rights advocates, but it drew sharp criticism from within his own political sphere.
In a scathing response, Tshabangu lambasted Sikhala for his comments, suggesting that his actions were counterproductive to the country’s progress.
“I beg to differ with Sikhala,” Tshabangu stated emphatically. “Instead of teaming up with fellow Zimbabweans in the fight for a better Zimbabwe, he finds comfort in the wings of Zimbabwe’s enemies. This isn’t good politics; lies have short legs.”
Tshabangu’s remarks underscore a significant rift within the opposition, highlighting a fundamental disagreement on the approach to political activism and engagement with international bodies.
He stressed the importance of unity and a patriotic approach to politics, suggesting that aligning with external forces undermines national integrity. “I still stand with the notion of patriotism and nationalistic politics,” Tshabangu declared, reaffirming his commitment to a more inward-focused strategy.
This clash between Sikhala and Tshabangu reflects broader tensions within Zimbabwe’s opposition movement, as leaders grapple with the best methods to challenge the ruling party and advocate for democratic reforms.
While Sikhala’s international outreach aims to garner global support and attention, Tshabangu’s critique suggests a preference for domestic solidarity and collective action among Zimbabweans.
The debate over how to effectively push for change in Zimbabwe continues to be a contentious issue, with significant implications for the country’s political landscape.
ED Offers Robbed White Farmers Compensation A Quarter Of A Century Later
By Farai D Hove | The promise by the Zimbabwean government to compensate dispossessed white farmers raises significant questions about its feasibility and sincerity, given the historical context and ongoing socio-political dynamics in Zimbabwe.
Historical Context and Delays
The land reform program that began in 2000 was marked by violence and controversy, leading to a significant reduction in agricultural output and economic turmoil. The move to compensate now, after more than two decades, signals a shift but must be viewed with skepticism due to past delays. The agreement to compensate was signed in 2020, yet the fact that no payments have been made as promised exacerbates concerns about the government’s reliability and capacity to fulfill such commitments.
**Government’s Financial Capacity**: Zimbabwe is grappling with severe economic challenges, including hyperinflation, debt, and currency instability. The plan to issue 10-year treasury bills worth $3.5 billion for compensation raises questions about the practicality of funding these commitments through debt in an already strained economy. The choice of treasury bills as a mode of compensation also hinges on the government’s future economic stability, which is uncertain.
**Geopolitical Considerations and FDI**: The compensation agreement could be seen as a strategic move to appease international stakeholders, particularly in the context of sanctions and the need to attract foreign direct investment (FDI). By aligning its policies with global property rights norms, Zimbabwe aims to rehabilitate its international image. However, this approach must be balanced against internal dissent and the broader historical grievances concerning land ownership and economic disparity.
**Internal Opposition and Social Unrest**: The agreement predominantly involves the former white commercial farmers, sidelining broader sections of the Zimbabwean population, including indigenous groups and former farm workers who also suffered due to land reforms. This selective compensation could fuel further social unrest and opposition, as it appears to prioritize a minority over the majority who have been historically marginalized.
**Legal and Policy Implications**: The focus on compensating for improvements on the land rather than the land itself is a legal maneuver that aligns with Zimbabwe’s constitution but does not address the complete spectrum of losses incurred by the farmers. This partial compensation may be seen as insufficient and could lead to continued legal and political challenges.
**Long-term Implications**: The compensation deal, while potentially stabilizing in the short term, might not address long-standing issues of land distribution and economic inequality in Zimbabwe. The ongoing emphasis on appeasing international interests might overshadow necessary domestic reforms, perpetuating cycles of dependency and instability.
To offer a more comprehensive analysis of the situation regarding Zimbabwe’s commitment to compensate dispossessed white farmers, integrating relevant quotes can provide depth and perspective:
**On Government Commitment and Delays**:
1. Andrew Bvumbe, head of debt management in the Ministry of Finance, optimistically stated, “With these 1,300, we want to move as quickly as possible. Maybe by the end of the third quarter of this year we want to get this out of the way.” However, the historical context begs skepticism, as promised deadlines have consistently been missed.
**On Financial Viability**:
2. The use of treasury bills as compensation mechanism is critical here. Toendepi Shonhe noted, “The Global Compensation Deed agreement…is expected to bring closure to the long-outstanding land dispute.” Yet, considering Zimbabwe’s economic instability, the reliance on such financial instruments might be overly optimistic or even impractical given the government’s fiscal constraints.
**On Geopolitical Motivations and FDI**:
3. Shonhe elaborates on geopolitical influences: “This step is consistent with the ‘Zimbabwe is open for business’ mantra adopted after the November 2017 coup…It is premised on the idea that appeasing global economic powers opens up access to foreign direct investment (FDI).” This statement underlines the strategic nature of the compensation deal, aiming to enhance Zimbabwe’s global standing but possibly at the expense of internal cohesion.
**On Internal Dissent and Social Implications**:
4. The selective nature of the compensation is highlighted by Shonhe’s critique: “Most Zimbabweans were excluded from the deliberations…It is little wonder there is broad opposition from varied sections of the population.” This points to a significant oversight in the government’s approach, potentially igniting further discontent among those who feel marginalized by the policy.
**On Legal and Policy Concerns**:
5. Shonhe also points out a key limitation of the compensation framework: “The first of these arguments is based on the issue of full respect for property rights… However, Section 72 (3) of Zimbabwe’s constitution only covers ‘improvements’, not the land itself.” This legal nuance suggests that the compensation, while appearing comprehensive, actually skirts around more profound issues of land ownership and rights.
**On Long-Term Outlook**:
6. Lastly, Shonhe warns about the long-term implications: “Nevertheless, this renders no excuse for the ongoing corruption and unrelenting human rights abuses in Zimbabwe today.” This observation serves as a reminder that resolving the compensation issue won’t necessarily address deeper systemic problems within Zimbabwe, including governance and human rights, which continue to undermine the country’s stability and development.
These quotes and insights emphasize the complexity and contentious nature of Zimbabwe’s commitment to compensate dispossessed white farmers, illustrating a blend of optimism from government officials and skepticism from researchers and broader societal segments.
Wicknell-ed Govt Promises Reduced Load Shedding This Winter
HARARE — In a commitment shadowed by ongoing financial scandals involving millions of US dollars in tender money leaks linked to convicted fraudster Wicknell Chivayo, the Zimbabwean government has vowed minimal load shedding this winter. Energy Minister Edgar Moyo assured the public that load shedding would not exceed “Stage One,” despite significant challenges facing the region’s power supply.
Chivayo, who has been implicated in siphoning tender contracts of over a quarter of a billion US dollars from government funds, has been a central figure in controversies surrounding misallocated resources for power projects. Despite these financial leaks and significant losses incurred, the government asserts that power management will be effectively handled this season.
Quoted by state-owned media, Minister Moyo expressed, “We have made several plans to ensure that the winter power supply situation is better than expected and we are not expecting to exceed Stage One load shedding despite the power crisis in the region.”
He detailed the strategies for stabilizing the power supply, including “maximum generation at the Hwange Units 7 and 8, which are consistently producing over 600MW; Hwange Units 1-6 are performing fairly well, producing an average of 300MW from the enhanced maintenance and prioritization of critical spares.”
Furthermore, Moyo highlighted that “Kariba dispatch is being optimized to produce an average of 250MW, with peak supply up to 400MW.” He also mentioned the ongoing import arrangements and the active participation of the Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (Zetdc) in the Southern African Power Pool (SAPP) Day Ahead Market, which allows Zimbabwe to access any excess power from the region.
These assurances come at a time when public confidence in government operations is low, particularly due to the substantial financial mismanagement linked to Chivayo’s activities. The government’s commitment to maintaining a stable power supply despite these issues is seen as a critical step in addressing both the immediate needs of the nation and restoring trust in its ability to manage essential services effectively.- Agencies
Mnangagwa Hoodwinks Prison Officers
By A Correspondent
Speaking on Friday at the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS) pass-out parade at Ntabazinduna Training School, Emmerson Mnangagwa emphasized the critical importance of loyalty and discipline among prison officers.
The event, which showcased the graduates’ skills and readiness, served as a platform for Mnangagwa to outline his expectations and the government’s support for the correctional services.
Mnangagwa, acknowledging the pervasive challenge of substance abuse, stated, “We, just like many countries, are grappling with the menace of substance abuse.”
He underscored the government’s commitment to combating this issue, highlighting the role of prison officers in maintaining peace and security.
“You play a crucial role in promoting peace and security,” Mnangagwa declared, adding that the ZPCS has earned international respect through its distinguished performance on foreign missions.
The Zanu PF leader commended the ZPCS for its innovative efforts, particularly the commercialization of inmates’ activities, which he described as a demonstration of their commitment to innovation.
He noted, “The service has embarked on innovation by commercializing inmates’ activities. This demonstrates your commitment to innovation.”
Mnangagwa further pointed out that the government is prepared to support these initiatives, especially in addressing climate change and ensuring food security.
“We as Government stand ready to assist in this regard as we work against the impact of climate change and ensure food security,” he said.
Mnangagwa’s speech also touched on the fundamental values that should guide the graduates in their new roles.
He invoked a nationalistic sentiment with the phrase, “Nyika inovakwa igotongwa, igonamatirwa nevene vayo,” which translates to “A nation is built, governed, and prayed for by its own people.” He stressed that discipline and patriotism are the cornerstones of the country’s security architecture.
“As you embark on this noble career, go forth with the skills acquired here knowing that discipline and patriotism are the foundations of our security architecture,” he urged the new officers.
The President expressed pride in the quality of the parade, praising both the graduates and their families for their dedication and support.
“I commend the ZPCS for a job well done. The quality of the parade is top-notch.
To the families of graduates, I thank you for the support you give to the graduands. I wish you great success in your careers,” Mnangagwa concluded.
The call for loyalty and the emphasis on innovation and discipline highlight Mnangagwa’s vision for a robust and respected correctional service that not only maintains security but also contributes to national development and international esteem.
Xavi Hernandez To Leave Barcelona?
Xavi Hernandez’s future as the head coach of Barcelona has been plugged into doubt again following his comments that have reportedly angered the club’s board.
Xavi only announced a few weeks ago that he is staying at the Catalan giants after having announced previously that he would be departing at the end of the season.
But in a turn of events, Barca president Joan Laporta has reportedly been urged by the other board members to sack the coach after commenting on the financial status of the club.
He said ahead of their game against Almeria on Thursday: “The Culé must understand that the situation is very complicated to compete economically.
“It has nothing to do with what we had 25 years ago when the coach would come and say ‘I want this one, this one, and this one’. It doesn’t work like that anymore.
“I understand that and that’s how we’re going to adjust to it. That doesn’t mean we’re not going to compete.
We need stability and time. There are good things to compete for. The situation we are in is the situation we are in in terms of results.”
Barcelona directors are believed to be furious for his public addressal of the club’s financial position ahead of the conclusion of the Spanish top-flight season, as reported by RAC1.
President Laporta was left so outraged by the media statement made by his team manager that he is now considering terminating Xavi’s contract, which would mean a late scramble to find a replacement before the transfer window opens.

Could Harare Become Zimbabwe’s Casino Capital?
Harare is Zimbabwe’s beating heart. It is the home of culture, commerce, and of course, entertainment. It’s already well known for its rich history, but is there untapped potential for Harare to make a name for itself as the casino capital of the country? Not only would the transformation into an entertainment hotspot create a big boost to the economy, but it could attract even more tourism too.
As it stands, Harare already has a handful of casinos. They appeal to both locals, Zimbabwean tourists, and international travellers. Each contributes to the city in terms of taxes and employment opportunities. However, in order to really make a name, Harare needs to double down on its efforts. Below are some of the ways that the city could do this.
First, A Little Background
For people who aren’t already casino fanatics, the appeal can be difficult to see. If you’ve never played before then a casino guide is all you need to get started. Slot machines tend to be the easiest for beginners, as you don’t need to be good at math to get results. It’s no coincidence that all of Harare’s casinos have slots as their main game. They’re easy for domestic and international visitors to get started with and require less guidance from croupiers.
Of course, table games are important too. Many people enjoy the glamour of visiting a casino. The spin of a roulette wheel or roll of the dice is somehow more glamorous than spinning the reels of the slot machine. All of Harare’s current casinos have a selection of table games, which any new additions will want to keep in mind.
The Full Tourist Package
Now that we’ve covered the appeal of a casino, it’s time to talk about how Harare could make this work. Harare is uniquely positioned in close proximity to famous tourist attractions. Victoria Falls and the Great Zimbabwe Ruins are all within easy travelling distance of the city. If travel packages including a stay at a casino resort were combined with Harare’s unique cultural sites, then the city could draw in an array of travellers with different interests. Already the Mazowe Casino Hotel offers stunning rooms, alongside a full casino. Creating further luxury accommodations with pre-planned packages to these destinations would surely bolster tourist numbers.
Employing a Strong Regulatory Framework
One of the biggest stumbling blocks when creating a casino hub is not understanding the framework properly, or not implementing any at all. It’s not enough for casinos to appear to be trustworthy, they need to be completely transparent in everything that they do, while also adhering to guidelines. Ensuring that machines are regularly audited for fairness and croupiers are given proper training is just the beginning of how Harare’s ‘casino handbook’ could look. With clear regulations in place, tourists could feel confident to come and play in this city, knowing they’re getting a fair deal. As well as this, companies with the funds to build casinos could be confident that their establishments will be overseen properly.
The Human Touch
As well as regulations and physical infrastructure, there always needs to be a human touch. Casino resorts bring with them bountiful job opportunities, but only for those who are properly qualified. In order to ensure that Harare is properly prepared to make these resorts work, training programs and educational initiatives could be set up. These could help local people to upskill, enabling them to find success within the hospitality sector.
Outside of employment, finding a way to embody the community of Harare could be a unique selling point of these establishments. Encompassing art from local communities, or images from Harare’s history are unique ways to bring the ‘flavor’ of the city to the resorts. With such a rich background, Harare’s culture could bring a whole new dimension to these casino destinations, helping them to stand out from the rest of the world.
Does paying your wife’s university fees mean you now have a right to control her?
Understanding Respect for Women: Navigating Heartbreak and Control
By Showbiz Analyst | In the complex landscape of relationships, particularly within the context of financial support and education, the issue of control often arises, especially when men find themselves grappling with heartbreak after investing in their partner’s education, only to feel betrayed when the relationship ends upon her graduation. This scenario raises pertinent questions about respect, agency, and the misconception of ownership within relationships.
Investing in a partner’s education, whether it be through paying for university fees or supporting them financially, is undoubtedly a noble gesture. It demonstrates commitment, support, and a belief in their potential. However, it should never be misconstrued as a means to gain control over the individual.
Respect in relationships transcends financial contributions. It encompasses mutual trust, understanding, and the acknowledgment of each other’s autonomy. The decision to support a partner’s education should stem from a place of genuine care and support, rather than an expectation of reciprocity or control.
The aftermath of a breakup can be emotionally tumultuous, especially when compounded by financial investments. However, it is essential to recognize that financial support does not entitle one to control over the other person’s decisions or actions. Each individual retains agency over their life choices, including the decision to end a relationship.
Moreover, the notion of controlling a partner, regardless of financial contributions, is inherently problematic and antithetical to the principles of respect and equality. Relationships thrive on mutual respect, communication, and compromise, not on power dynamics or manipulation.
The belief that financial support grants ownership or control over a partner perpetuates harmful stereotypes and reinforces unequal power dynamics. It diminishes the autonomy and agency of the individual receiving support, reducing them to mere objects of possession rather than equal partners in a relationship.
Instead of viewing financial support as a transactional exchange for control, it should be approached as a collaborative effort aimed at fostering personal growth and empowerment. True respect for women (or any partner) involves recognizing and valuing their autonomy, aspirations, and independence, regardless of financial contributions.
In conclusion, while the pain of heartbreak and the perceived loss of investment may be profound, it is essential to separate financial support from notions of control in relationships. Respect for women, or any partner, demands the recognition of their autonomy and agency, irrespective of financial investments. Ultimately, true respect transcends material possessions and is rooted in mutual understanding, trust, and equality.

Tshabangu Calls For Job Sikhala’s Re-Arrest
By A Correspondent- Self-imposed CCC interim Secretary General Sengezo Tshabangu incited the state security to arrest Job Sikhala, whom he accused of betraying Zimbabwe by aligning with foreign adversaries.

Mnangagwa Brainwashes Prison Officers

Tshabangu Accuses Job Sikhala Of Betraying Country

Wicknell Chivhayo Grabs Chihuri’s Mansion

Zimbabwe Breaks Migration Record
By Political Correspondent- The International Organisation for Migration (IOM) says Zimbabwe is now the largest source of migrants in the region.
Speaking on behalf of IOM Chief of Mission Dyane Epstein, Migration Health Chief and Officer Thomas Kalasani revealed that more Zimbabweans have emigrated from their home country than from any other southern African nation.
Kalasani delivered this information on Wednesday during the official launch at the Old Memorial Hospital in Bulawayo.
He stated: “The current global projection is that there are approximately 281 million international migrants in the world, accounting for 3.6% of the global population.”
According to the World Report 2020, Zimbabwe leads as the largest source of migrants in southern Africa. Many Zimbabweans are migrating to other regions, including the Middle East, in search of economic opportunities. The Zimbabwean government has been actively involved in ensuring the safe return of its citizens who have fallen victim to human trafficking in these regions.
Millions of Zimbabweans, both documented and undocumented, have left the country, with the majority residing in South Africa as economic refugees. Home Affairs Minister Kazembe Kazembe informed NewsDay that the government aims to simplify passport access for Zimbabweans living abroad. He said, “We have already started decentralisation of the passport offices, which will assist migrants in accessing national documentation easily. We have also initiated processes to ensure that applications for these vital documents can be done online to facilitate the ease of doing business both locally and for our citizens abroad.”
In line with these efforts, the government announced it will begin processing e-passports at its embassy in South Africa this week. Officials from the Registrar General’s department will be deployed to support consulate staff. Permanent Secretary for Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage, Raphael Faranisi, confirmed that all preparations are in place to start issuing e-passports at the e-passport processing centre in Johannesburg this week.

Chaos As Zanu PF Hooligans Disrupt Parliamentary Public Hearing
By A Correspondent
A scheduled Parliamentary public hearing on the Private Voluntary Organisation Amendment Bill descended into chaos as Zanu PF hooligans disrupted proceedings at the Civic Centre in Masvingo yesterday (Thursday).
The unruly behaviour of the individuals has raised serious concerns about the state of public discourse and the safety of civic engagement in Zimbabwe.
Witnesses described a scene of disorder as visibly drunk youths, identified as Zanu PF supporters, stormed the hearing.
They shouted insults at parliamentarians and physically attacked members of civil society and opposition supporters who had gathered to participate in the consultations.
One eyewitness, who wished to remain anonymous, recounted the mayhem: “It was absolute chaos.
These youths were out of control, yelling obscenities and physically intimidating anyone who didn’t align with their views. It was clear they had one objective – to derail the hearing.”
Another attendee, a member of a local NGO, condemned the intimidation tactics used by the hooligans: “They were aggressive and menacing, making it impossible for a constructive discussion to take place. This is a serious blow to democracy and the freedom to express dissenting opinions.”
The hearing was intended to gather public input on the controversial amendment bill, which aims to regulate the operations of private voluntary organizations in Zimbabwe.
Critics argue that the bill is a thinly veiled attempt by the government to stifle civil society and clamp down on dissent.
A political observer present at the hearing, who chose to remain unnamed for safety reasons, condemned the violence: “This is not how democratic processes should unfold. We are here to listen to the people, but it is impossible to do so under such hostile conditions. This kind of behavior undermines the very foundation of our democracy.”
Members of the opposition also expressed their outrage.
“This orchestrated disruption is a clear tactic by Zanu PF to silence critical voices and impede democratic engagement,” said one opposition leader.
“We demand that the perpetrators be held accountable and that future hearings be protected from such intimidation.”
The disruption of this parliamentary public hearing by Zanu PF hooligans is a troubling indicator of the challenges facing democratic processes in Zimbabwe.
As the nation grapples with issues of governance and civil liberties, the need for open and safe public discourse remains paramount.
Mnangagwa Denies Mugabe Minister Heroes Acre Honours
ED Denies Heroes’ Burial to Loyal Minister Amidst Plans to Relocate Mugabe’s Remains
By A Correspondent | Emmerson Mnangagwa has decided not to grant a heroes’ burial to Eunice Sandi Moyo, the former Minister of State for Bulawayo Metropolitan Province, despite her longstanding service and dedication. Instead, she will receive a state-assisted funeral, typically reserved for lower-ranking civilians.
The decision comes at a critical time when President Mnangagwa is also planning to relocate the remains of the late President Robert Mugabe, further stirring political tensions.
Eunice Sandi Moyo passed away last Thursday at Mater Dei Hospital in Bulawayo after battling hypertension. President Mnangagwa expressed his condolences, recognizing her as a “staunch veteran nationalist” deeply involved in the liberation politics of Zimbabwe. He noted her significant contributions to the Bulawayo province and the nation, particularly her efforts to advance national development through community engagement.
Despite these accolades, the decision to deny her a heroes’ burial has raised questions about the criteria and political dynamics influencing such honors under Mnangagwa’s administration.
The late minister will be remembered for her role in anticipating and implementing the Policy on Devolution, which aimed at balanced, community-specific development. This policy, according to Mnangagwa, became a cornerstone of the Second Republic.
In his statement, Mnangagwa said, “I am humbled to grant Mama Sandi Moyo the honour of a State Assisted Funeral and burial. May her family’s grief be assuaged by the high regard she earned and deserved from all of us who worked and interacted with her. May her dear soul rest in eternal peace.”
This decision marks a significant moment in Zimbabwean politics, reflecting the complexities and potentially changing loyalties within the ruling party. As the nation continues to deal with the legacies of its leaders, the community watches closely to see how these decisions will influence the political landscape.
Will Police Arrest Zanu PF Hooligans?
By A Correspondent
In a shocking display of political violence, known Zanu PF hooligans physically attacked supporters of Advocate Nelson Chamisa during a Parliamentary public hearing on the Private Voluntary Organisation Amendment Bill.
The incident took place at the Civic Centre in Masvingo on Thursday, leaving Chamisa’s supporters, including civil society members, battered and bruised.
Eyewitnesses reported that the assailants were a group of inebriated youths affiliated with the ruling Zanu PF party. The hearing, intended to gather public input on the controversial bill, quickly descended into chaos as the intoxicated youths began to assault attendees. “It was terrifying,” said one resident who wished to remain anonymous.
“They were drunk and seemed intent on causing as much harm as possible.”
The Private Voluntary Organisation Amendment Bill has been a contentious issue, with many civil society groups arguing that it seeks to further restrict the operations of non-governmental organizations in Zimbabwe.
Critics fear the bill could be used to clamp down on dissent and limit the activities of groups that provide essential services and advocate for human rights.
A member of a local civil society organization, recounted the ordeal: “We were there to voice our concerns about the bill, but it quickly became clear that Zanu PF did not want to hear any opposing views. They attacked us without any provocation.”
The victim, who sustained minor injuries, added, “This kind of violence has no place in a democratic society.”
This incident is the latest in a series of violent episodes attributed to Zanu PF supporters, raising concerns about the state of political tolerance in Zimbabwe.
Human rights organizations have repeatedly called on the government to curb such acts of violence and ensure the safety of all citizens, regardless of their political affiliations.
The attack in Masvingo has drawn widespread condemnation from both local and international observers.
“The international community must take note of these violations,” urged a spokesperson for a leading human rights organization.
“Zimbabwe’s government needs to protect its citizens and uphold democratic principles, especially during such crucial public consultations.”
Advocate Chamisa and his supporters remain undeterred, however, vowing to continue their fight for democracy and justice.
“We will not be intimidated,” Chamisa’s supporters declared.
“Our resolve to build a better Zimbabwe is stronger than ever, and no amount of violence will deter us from this noble cause.”
The government is yet to issue an official statement regarding the attack.
Meanwhile, civil society groups are calling for an immediate investigation and the prosecution of those responsible for the violence at the Civic Centre.

Mutsvangwa Is Too Busy Serving Country, Says Dr Mavaza | FULL TEXT
BY DR. MASIMBA MAVAZA | Ambassador Mutsvangwa returned home today from Maputo, Mozambique. Despite the troubling rumors and issues surrounding him and his family, Ambassador Mutsvangwa has continued to serve his country commendably.
It is often said that those who truly value freedom are willing to sacrifice their lives for their country. This usually conjures images of brave acts in the face of enemy threats or perilous missions that demand the ultimate commitment, often leading to heroic yet tragic outcomes.
Cde Chris Mutsvangwa has managed to balance serving his country with addressing his son’s legal issues as a devoted family man and father. He has risen above all rumors, continuing to represent both his country and his president with distinction. Despite baseless rumors of a rift with the president, he has proven his detractors wrong by meeting with mutual friends and colleagues in Mozambique on party-related duties.
While in Maputo, Ambassador Christopher Mutsvangwa also worked on setting up commercial mechanisms to attract investments and promote unimpeded capital flow, enhancing cross-investment between the two sister nations. They are inspired by the post-Second World War Franco-German Union, which laid the groundwork for today’s European Union. Harare and Maputo are poised to refine and elevate this model to new heights of shared prosperity.
Although such sacrifices are often celebrated, the call to give one’s life for their country entails more than a heroic end. Cde Mutsvangwa has engaged in business, fostering cordial relations and promoting Zimbabwean interests. During his trip to Maputo, Ambassador Mutsvangwa met with high-ranking officials from FRELIMO and war veterans, participating in high-profile meetings for the nation’s benefit. He extended his best wishes to FRELIMO for a resounding electoral victory on October 7.
Ambassador Mutsvangwa has denied accusing Vice President Chiwenga of any wrongdoing. He stated, “Every member of our party sacrifices daily—some sacrifices are large, others small; some are deliberate, others instinctive—all for our great nation. I will not fall into a trap set by our enemies to create disturbances in our party.” Many of these dedicated individuals might not realize that they are indeed giving their lives for their country by sacrificing their comfort, families, and personal lives to put ‘Service before Self.’ This selflessness is crucial for the success of both our military and our nation.
This epitome of service is a fundamental element of “followership.” Despite current concerns, which will eventually be resolved, in ZANU PF we understand that our country needs individuals who are ready to lead and make sacrifices to maintain peace and preserve our liberty and freedom. Commenting on the bravery shown by Mutsvangwa in dealing with personal challenges, Dr. Matambo, a political commentator, said, “Mutsvangwa is a hero. By persisting in the face of adversity, he writes a narrative of bravery, competence, and sacrifice, which are incredibly relevant in today’s service to the nation.”
The fact that the Mutsvangwa family works tirelessly without resentment demonstrates their unconditional dedication. Both would have readily given their lives for their nation. Moreover, they continue to serve by mentoring the current generation of Zimbabweans and contributing their time and talents to the nation.
Followership and sacrifice are qualities exemplified by Ambassador Mutsvangwa as he represents the president despite any challenges. Zimbabwe benefits daily from the sacrifices of numerous citizens. Ambassador Mutsvangwa, embracing the same ethos of serving others before himself, is a testament to this. Dr. Matambo noted, “By engaging in national and party affairs, the Mutsvangwas are, unequivocally, prepared to lay down their lives for their country while also supporting their son and letting the law take its course.”
Cde Mutsvangwa’s dedication to ‘Service before Self’ clearly shows that commitment and sacrifice are qualities embedded in the Mutsvangwa family daily. His recent trip to Mozambique also aimed to reignite the spirit of national defense, liberation, and glorification, calling upon individuals to make sacrifices out of loyalty, sometimes even to the extent of giving their lives for the nation.
Basic Commodities Shortages Loom As Mnangagwa Introduces Price Controls
By Business Reporter- By Business Reporter – Fears are mounting over the potential disappearance of basic commodities from supermarkets following the government’s imposition of new price control measures.
The government recently enacted Statutory Instrument 81A of 2024, which removes the 10% premium on forex sales. Consequently, all sellers of goods are now mandated to use the interbank selling rate or face penalties of at least ZiG200,000.
Business leaders and economists argue that the government’s attempt to manipulate exchange rates effectively reintroduces price controls, which have historically resulted in the disappearance of essential goods from store shelves.
Denford Mutashu, President of the Confederation of Zimbabwe Retailers (CZR), has formally communicated these concerns to the Minister of Industry and Commerce, Mangaliso Ndlovu. In his letter, Mutashu states:
“We are writing to express our strong concerns regarding Statutory Instrument 81A of 2024. While we understand the intention behind this instrument, we believe that the current framework is not workable and requires significant adjustments to ensure its feasibility. Our concerns are centred around the maximum exchange rate, which does not reflect a cost recovery exchange rate given the current circumstances. Specifically, banks are currently charging clients a rate around 5% above the selling rate.
This week, the banks have been selling at a rate of around ZiG14.70:US$1.
The new intermediate money transfer tax (IMTT) statutory instrument announced by the minister has increased the IMTT for forex (FX) purchases on the Willing Buyer, Willing Seller (WBWS) from 1% to 2%.
This is in addition to the 1% charged by the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ), taking the total cost for WBWS purchases to 3%.
These costs add up to an average of 8% above the RBZ selling rate.
Furthermore, FX is not available on demand, and any time lag between receiving ZIG and purchasing FX on WBWS can result in losses for traders due to ZIG rate devaluation.
To make this SI workable and possible for players to comply, we recommend that the bank selling rates must not exceed the RBZ selling rate and that FX purchases from the WBWS must be exempted from IMTT.”
Mutashu also urged authorities to remove the RBZ’s 1% administrative fee for WBWS purchases and to allow an additional 2% above the WBWS selling rate to account for ZIG rate volatility. He cautioned:
“SI 81A of 2024 will not be workable, and it will lead to a cat-and-mouse game between the regulator and businesses. We urge you to consider our concerns and recommendations to ensure a feasible and effective framework.”
Kurai Matsheza, President of the Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries (CZI), echoed these sentiments, emphasising:
“In economics, there’s a law of demand and supply; hence the government should follow that for the exchange rate to stabilize. Anything outside that will affect the economy.”
Economist Vince Musewe criticised the government’s approach, stating:
“You cannot police market sentiment. The market is a beast that can only be tamed by building trust and confidence. Price controls always create alternative market shortages and increased smuggling. We are not learning from history.”
Another economist, Tony Hawkins, expressed similar concerns, highlighting the adverse effects of these policies:
“The threats of arrests and fines confirm that nothing has changed. Next comes the shifting of goalposts with new SIs and additional ways of calculating inflation. In this case, we have a new twist — the conversion of an already out-of-date national budget into zigs, which will give Treasury lots of opportunities to switch spending and raise stealth tax revenues. The next stage, as is happening now, is threats, arrests, and fines, all of which confirm that nothing has changed. How can it be a free market if anyone who trades on a willing buyer-willing seller basis is breaking the law unless he trades at the manipulated RBZ rate?”
Holy Ten Torches Storm
By Showbiz Reporter – Controversial rapper Holy Ten has, for the second time, sparked another storm after exchanging words with fellow musician Saintfloew.
The two celebrities, who have been prominent figures in the Zim Hip Hop scene, are back in the spotlight as their tiff has been rekindled. Saintfloew claims Holy Ten is stalking him on social media.
This incident follows Holy Ten’s previous high-profile feud with Winky D, another major figure in the Zimbabwean music industry.
The rapper’s political connections with Zanu PF have also been a source of controversy, adding another layer to his public persona.
The “beefing” culture has always been part of hip hop worldwide. Top rappers, such as Drake and Kendrick Lamar, have been exchanging lyrical shots for weeks.
While some fans might not take it lightly, feuding has always been part of the game.

Communications Guru Grabs Top ZIPR Post
By Staff Reporter- The Zimbabwe Institute of Public Relations (ZIPR) has elected communications guru and journalism lecturer Thandolwenkosi Nkomo as president following its Annual General Meeting held last Friday.
Mr. Nkomo, a seasoned communications professional who has been an active member of ZIPR for several years, takes over from Hazel Zisanhi, who completed a successful two-year term as the institute’s president.
In addition to Mr. Nkomo’s election, Charles Sadondo was elected vice-president, and Roberta Katunga as secretary, while Darling Ndlovu joined the ZIPR council as a new council member.
Former president Zisanhi remains on the council as an ex-officio member, assuming responsibility for the Public Relations and Membership portfolio, where she is expected to leverage her considerable experience to support the institute’s growth initiatives.
Mr. Nkomo has expressed his commitment to meeting the expectations of the institute’s members and promoting the public relations profession in Zimbabwe.
“The election of the new council comes at a time when there has been tremendous interest among public relations practitioners in ongoing professional development programs and platforms that enable them to network, collaborate, and contribute to the sustained growth of public relations in Zimbabwe,” Mr. Nkomo said following his election.
“It is our intention to not only meet the needs of local public relations practitioners but to fulfill our role as a thought leader that the private sector, government, and civil society can trust to provide guidance and counsel, especially at a time when there is a need for careful navigation towards attaining national development goals and the international Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),” he added.
ZIPR has been the national body for public relations professionals for almost 67 years, having been founded in 1957.
Mr Nkomo emphasised the new council’s commitment to continuing to promote excellence, ethical behaviour, and professional development in the field of public relations.
“We will continue to provide a platform for our members to network, share knowledge, and collaborate in fostering growth and advancement within the public relations industry,” he said.
International Public Relations Association (IPRA) board member and chair of the association’s United Kingdom and Ireland Chapter, Jacqueline Purcell, who is a ZIPR Fellow and former ZIPR president, extended her congratulations to the new ZIPR president and noted the long-standing relationship between ZIPR and IPRA.
During the Methew Takaona era at the Zimbabwe Union of Journalists, ZIPR, through its partnership with ZUJ, trained several senior journalists in Zimbabwe to become fine public relations managers, many of whom are now flourishing in the corporate sector.
Effects of Plastic Waste
In a world where convenience often trumps environmental responsibility, the insidious impact of plastic waste continues to escalate, leaving a devastating imprint on our planet’s ecosystems.
As underscored by Tshikovha Green and Climate Change Advocates Pty Ltd, the ramifications of plastic pollution extend far beyond the realm of mere inconvenience; they pose a profound threat to both wildlife and human health.
The most alarming aspect of plastic waste is its persistence.
Unlike organic materials that decompose relatively quickly, plastics endure for centuries, stubbornly refusing to degrade.
Estimates suggest that it can take up to a staggering 1,000 years for certain types of plastics to break down, perpetuating their presence in the environment long after their usefulness has expired.
This longevity translates into a pervasive accumulation of plastic debris, which manifests as a looming environmental crisis.
The consequences are most starkly felt in our oceans, where vast swathes of plastic waste have formed sprawling gyres, suffocating marine life and despoiling once-pristine habitats.
Sea creatures, from majestic whales to diminutive plankton, fall victim to entanglement in plastic debris or ingest it, mistaking it for food.
The toll on marine ecosystems is profound, with cascading effects that reverberate throughout the food chain.
Yet, the scourge of plastic waste extends its grip inland as well, infiltrating soils and infiltrating groundwater reservoirs.
Microplastics, the fragmented remnants of larger plastic items, infiltrate agricultural lands, compromising soil fertility and contaminating crops.
This insidious infiltration poses a dual threat to both environmental and human health, as plastic-derived toxins leach into water sources, perpetuating a cycle of contamination that imperils both ecosystems and communities.
Moreover, the human health impacts of plastic pollution cannot be overstated.
From the chemicals used in plastic production to the toxins absorbed from the environment, exposure to plastics poses a myriad of health risks.
Studies have linked plastic-related chemicals such as bisphenol A (BPA) and phthalates to a host of adverse health outcomes, including hormonal disruptions, reproductive disorders, and even certain cancers.
As plastic waste proliferates unabated, the specter of these health risks looms ever larger, casting a shadow over present and future generations alike.
Addressing the scourge of plastic pollution demands a concerted, multifaceted approach encompassing legislative action, technological innovation, and individual accountability. Initiatives to reduce single-use plastics, promote recycling and waste management infrastructure, and foster sustainable alternatives are crucial steps toward mitigating the environmental and human toll of plastic waste.
As stewards of this planet, we are entrusted with the responsibility of safeguarding its fragile ecosystems and ensuring the well-being of all its inhabitants.
The effects of plastic waste serve as a stark reminder of the urgent imperative to reevaluate our relationship with plastics and chart a course toward a more sustainable, harmonious coexistence with the natural world.
Only through collective action and unwavering commitment can we hope to stem the tide of plastic pollution and forge a path toward a cleaner, healthier future for generations to come.
Obediah Musindo Throws Passion Java Under The Bus
By Showbiz Reporter- Zanu PF apologist and leader of the Destiny for Africa Network Obediah Musindo has exposed his fellow fake cleric and Zanu PF boot-leaker, Passion Java, for failing to provide buses hired to ferry party supporters to his much-hyped event, the “Night of Wonders” that flopped.
Java had boasted that he would fill up the venue, the National Sports Stadium, vowing to quit preaching if he failed.
However, there was a poor turnout, forcing Java to prematurely end the gathering to avoid further embarrassment.
His followers claimed that he was sabotaged by fellow pastors who didn’t want the event to succeed.
But speaking to a private daily Musindo said various organisations had mobilised people to attend the event but Java failed to avail buses to ferry them to the National Sports Stadium. He said:
Passion should not blame anyone, be it other prophets or bishops. No one sabotaged him except his team. Except, I repeat, his team.
People are so bitter because they took their time. They did everything to mobilise people, only to be disappointed by failing to get transport.
And lastly, for example, on my side, he promised to hire buses for us.
There are different organisations, but I can’t speak for them as some of them came to me crying saying they were asked to hire buses, but the money never came.
Past five (5 pm), when the event was starting, that was the time that some money was released for us to hire buses.
Who was going to wait for Passion until midnight? Who in his sane mind was going to wait for Passion until late?
Java is among a group of pastors who subscribe to the prosperity gospel which gained prominence in Zimbabwe and other parts of Africa, particularly Nigeria in the past few decades.
The prosperity gospel is a form of Pentecostalism that emphasises material wealth, health, and success as signs of God’s favour.
In Zimbabwe, proponents of the prosperity gospel claim to have the power to perform miraculous financial blessings sometimes referred to as “miracle money.”
Some Evangelical theologians consider it a serious heresy and a deception for many Christians arguing it can be misleading and distort fundamental Christian tenets.
Critics say that by focusing on supernatural wealth and blessings, prosperity preachers may divert attention from addressing tangible issues causing suffering, such as corruption.
Police Under Pressure To Arrest Unruly Zanu PF Supporters

Zanu PF Hooligans Disrupt Parliamentary Programme

Stinchy Mnangagwa Administration Clandestinely Slashes Teachers’ Salaries
By A Correspondent| Teachers claim that the government is provoking a confrontation with its employees by slashing civil servants’ May salaries.
According to reports, teachers and other government workers experienced a substantial reduction in earnings this month compared to April.
As an example, individuals who received approximately ZiG2,000 in April now receive around ZiG1,600 this month, and this decrease is unrelated to deductions by medical aid providers or funeral services.
The Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ) issued a warning that teachers are upset about this situation and intend to take action.
Civil servants are angry! The regime has slashed the already circumcised incomes of Civil Servants. They think we are now weak and demobilised. Soon they will know that they only co-opted the elites, and the base is agitated. We have instructions from the Civil Service to act! We will oblige!
The union stated this week (May 13-19) that the focal point of their campaign is the request for US$180 comprehensive healthcare insurance, as part of the overall basket of a US$1,260 monthly income.
Watch Zimbabwean Shining At A US University Graduation
By-Zimbabwean student Kerry-Ann Ratidzo Moyo speaking at the University of Richmond, Virginia, United States, two days ago representing the graduating class of 2024.
She spoke about the African philosophy of ubuntu/hunhu. In Nguni culture, which entails Ndebele, Zulu, Xhosa and Swati ethnic groups, there is a maxim which says “Umuntu ngumuntu ngabantu”. The Shona people say “Munhu munhu navanhu.” There are also other equivalents to this in other African cultures. The Ubuntu philosophy says “I am human only because of your humanity”. Ubuntu/hunhu is the idea that no one can be healthy when the community is sick. Ubuntu says if I undermine your humanity, I dehumanise myself. It lies at the heart of the African philosophy and way of life, thus impacts on critical aspect of people’s well-being. Ubuntu is not just a word; it’s a deeply ingrained philosophy which shapes communities, cultures, and individual lives across Africa. It expresses philosophically human interdependence and acknowledgment of one’s responsibility to their fellow humans and the world around them. It is a philosophy that promotes collectivism over individualism. Ubuntu asserts society gives human beings their humanity. As a parting shot, Moyo says: “Whatever you decide to pursue, never forget the power, the prevalence, and the privilege of human connection and the value that your existence brings to those around you.”

Mama Vee Copycat Arrested In The Middle Of Recording A Skit
By A Correspondent| A Harare comedian was recently arrested by the Zimbabwe Republic Police while recording a social media skit dressed like a woman.
The comedian Musa Vines was ambushed by police officers while going about his business who arrested and handcuffed him.
Efforts to try and explain what he was doing to the police officers did not yield results as they forced him to sit down.
In a video making rounds on social media, Musa Vines is heard pleading with the police to let him continue with his acting.
“Haaa musadaro. Angori ma video epa TikTok andinenge ndichiita hapamborina yakanyaya Sir. Honai vanhu vese vakuungana. Musadaro mdara ndikungokumbirawo. Icomedy yandinenge ndichingoita.”
The police officer then yanked the wig off Musa Vines’ head, refusing to budge. He was promising the comedian that he was going to sleep in custody.
Zimbabwe has witnessed an increase in the number of social media actors who imitate women including Mama Vee, Mai Chihwa and Mai Kirifodhi among others.

Mugabe Minister Dies
By Political Reporter- Former Bulawayo Provincial Affairs Minister, Eunice Sandi Moyo, has died.
She was 78.
The politician died at Mater Dei Hospital in Bulawayo after a long battle with hypertension, her daughter, Phoebe, confirmed.
“We are devastated that mom is gone, but comforted by the fact that she was there for us all along as a mother, not for us alone, but for the country,” said Phoebe.
“We are proud of her life and the service she rendered to her country. While on national service she did her duties with diligence and honour.
“Mom did a lot for the country and we are glad she was there to see our achievements. She did not sacrifice for us alone, but for many others.”
In her condolence message last night, Bulawayo Provincial Affairs Minister, Judith Ncube, described the late Sandi-Moyo as one of the icons of the bitter liberation struggle, which gave birth to a free Zimbabwe.
She said Bulawayo has lost a motherly and humble leader whose commitment to the development of the city and the country as a whole is unquestionable.
“Her passing on early today was hard to accept.
“I am informing Bulawayo that our mother, sister, and grandmother is no more, she has gone to be with the Lord and more now than ever, her family needs all our support for they have certainly been left without a shade,” said Minister Ncube.
“It’s now time as uBulawayo to show Ubuntu bethu, it is never easy for any family to lose a pillar of strength, but sadly Sandi-Moyo’s family has been visited by this undesirable experience and it’s us who can comfort them.”
Zanu PF Politburo member and former Cabinet Minister, Retired Colonel Tshinga Dube, expressed shock over Sandi Moyo’s death.
“It’s true that she has passed on and we are taken aback. We knew Sandi-Moyo from the days of the struggle in Zambia where she worked closely with the likes of the late Jane Ngwenya, Angeline Masuku and when she was one of the assistants to Dr Joshua Nkomo in the offices,” he said.
“After independence, we all know she became a Governor for Bulawayo and worked for the party. Sandi-Moyo worked hard for her country before and after independence. Despite what happened later, what is crucial is that her contribution to her country will always be remembered.”
Sandi-Moyo was known as a woman of substance, one who never backed down from a challenge as she believed in taking challenges head-on, and all her life she strived to take the lead in proving the power of women’s leadership.
Born in Plumtree, in 1946 the late Sandi-Moyo lived by the motto: “Life is what you make it, and the harder you work the more rewarding and fulfilling it is.”
As a professional teacher before joining politics in an endeavour to help liberate the country from colonial rule, the late Sandi Moyo wanted to empower women in a way that would catapult them to dizzying heights in a male-dominated environment.
“As far as my father was concerned, my involvement in politics meant I was breaking the law, and because of that, we were not good friends for a long time. Our relationship only improved after independence,” she was quoted in the Chronicle in 1992.
In the interview, she said her father’s objection to her being involved in politics presented a challenge in itself.
She recalled when she was five, when her family moved to South Africa where her father was working. Her first school was at De Aar in the Cape Province before moving to Barkley Road High School. She then spent two years at Gore-Brown College training to be a teacher.
“Immediately after finishing college, my father felt it was time I packed my bags and returned to Zimbabwe because he felt I was beginning to be a nuisance from my involvement in politics,” she said.
“His wish was for me to get married and settle down when I got back home.
“I got married, yes, but I could not just sit and watch the political happenings then,” she told Chronicle at the time.
Sandi-Moyo taught at several schools in Bulilima-Mangwe before she became actively involved in campaigns to improve the conditions of teachers under colonial rule.
In 1969, when the then Ministry of Education abolished Grade three teachers and enrolled pupils into either Grades One or Four classes, teachers were not amused and she and her colleagues helped freedom fighters find grip in rural areas.
A protest campaign was then organised during which several teachers were arrested. However, some retrenched teachers volunteered to fill the void.
That incident was a landmark experience in Sandi Moyo’s political career and later on she was involved in organising clandestine meetings and collaborated with freedom fighters.
In 1973 she moved to Bulawayo and joined the city council. Two years later she left for Zambia to join the liberation struggle.
Sandi-Moyo’s political career progressed as she worked her way through the ranks to become a revolutionary and central committee member of ZAPU.
Sandi-Moyo would travel extensively overseas on party business.
In 1977 she was sent to Germany for an industrial relations course, before becoming a member of the ZAPU delegation to the Lancaster House Conference, which culminated in Zimbabwe’s independence in 1980.
At Independence Sandi-Moyo was appointed to run the Umguza complex, which included a technical college, farms, and cooperatives.
In 1983, she and her long-standing friend, Mrs Zodwa Sibanda, pooled their financial resources and went into business, Z and N Enterprises, which was a big success story for the two women.
Later, Sandi Moyo and a handful of businesswomen got together and launched the Women in Business Zimbabwe.
The organisation removed one of the biggest stumbling blocks for women aspiring to go into business – the demand for collateral security.
It also negotiated a deal in which the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) allocated $5 million for its loan guarantee scheme.
The deal opened up opportunities for women who encountered difficulties in securing loans because they had no collateral.
Sandi-Moyo served as president of the Bulawayo Chapter of the Child Survival Development, and also sat on the Indigenous Business Development Centre board, before chairing the national committee of buildings and properties of the YWCA.
She was the only executive member of the Jairos Jiri Association.
In her rural home, she was the project secretary for the Bulilima-Mangwe District Development Association and a member of the Professional Women’s Club.
She was also a consultant for two Germany-based organisations.
In her spare time, the late Sandi Moyo enjoyed relaxing at home and watching her favourite movies and soccer teams.
She was a staunch Highlanders supporter, with Peter Ndlovu being her favourite player in the game of football.
The late former minister is survived by four daughters and a son. Mourners are gathered at House Number 17 Onslow Road, Sunninghill Suburb in Bulawayo.

Freedom Coming :Chamisa
By A Correspondent |ZimEye
In the face of Zimbabwe’s enduring economic struggles and the ongoing violation of human rights under the Zanu PF regime, Advocate Nelson Chamisa, the country’s youthful opposition leader, remains steadfast in his conviction that liberation is within reach. Despite the challenges that have plagued the nation, Chamisa sees a future where Zimbabwe emerges as a beacon of freedom, happiness, peace, pride, and prosperity.
Chamisa’s optimism comes at a time when many Zimbabweans are grappling with dire economic conditions and widespread reports of human rights abuses.
The country’s economy has been in a state of turmoil for years, marked by hyperinflation, unemployment, and a lack of basic services.
Moreover, the Zanu PF government has been criticized for its heavy-handed tactics in suppressing dissent and stifling political opposition.
In a statement on Tuesday, Advocate Chamisa declared, “ZIMBABWE SHALL SOON BE THE LAND OF THE FREE, HAPPY, PEACEFUL, PROUD AND PROSPEROUS!! #OnePeople #Tose #Sonke.”
These words reflect his unwavering belief in the potential of Zimbabweans to overcome their current challenges and build a brighter future together.
Chamisa’s vision for Zimbabwe encompasses not only political freedom but also economic prosperity and social cohesion. He envisions a society where all citizens can enjoy equal rights and opportunities, regardless of their background or beliefs.
By rallying behind the principles of unity and solidarity, Chamisa believes that Zimbabweans can overcome the divisions that have long hindered their progress.
Despite facing criticism and opposition from the ruling party, Chamisa remains undeterred in his pursuit of positive change for Zimbabwe.
He continues to advocate for democratic reforms, economic revitalization, and respect for human rights, emphasizing the importance of inclusive governance and dialogue.
As Zimbabwe looks toward the future, Advocate Chamisa’s message serves as a reminder of the resilience and determination of its people.
While the road ahead may be challenging, Chamisa’s vision offers hope and inspiration for a nation longing for freedom, justice, and prosperity.
Parliamentary Hearings Residents Demand Death Penalty for Corrupt Officials
**Bindura Hearings Reveal Strong Opposition to Death Penalty Abolition Among Local Stakeholders**
Last Monday, the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs held a pivotal hearing in Bindura as part of a broader series of national consultations on the proposed Death Penalty Abolition Bill. The hearing, which took place at Tendai Community Hall in the Chipadze area, drew a significant crowd, many of whom expressed a particularly severe stance on the application of the death penalty.
Unexpectedly, voices at the hearing demanded that the death penalty be specifically applied to high-ranking officials such as parliamentarians, heads of public office, and ministers found guilty of looting national resources. “The rationale provided by speaker after speaker was stark: abolishing the death penalty would embolden criminals, potentially leading to an increase in severe crimes, as perpetrators would no longer fear the ultimate punishment of death,” explained legal expert Tafadzwa Zimunya.
The hearing in Bindura was part of a week-long session spread across nine provinces, including Mashonaland Central, and other towns like Kadoma, Gweru, Bulawayo, Lupane, Filabusi, Harare, Marondera, Mutare, and Masvingo. These hearings are designed to solicit stakeholder input on three bills currently under consideration, with a particular focus on the Death Penalty Abolition Bill, which was gazetted last year.
Introduced by Dzivarasekwa legislator Edwin Mushoriwa as a private member’s bill, the Death Penalty Abolition Bill aims to amend the Criminal Law Code and the Criminal Procedure and Evidence Act. Following the Cabinet’s approval of the bill’s principles in February, the legislative path for its passage appears clear, signaling a shift towards ending capital punishment in the country.
“Legal experts and political analysts are closely watching these developments,” said political analyst Chipo Dendere. “The intense responses from the Bindura hearing reflect deep societal concerns about accountability and justice, especially concerning corruption at high levels. The push to extend the death penalty rather than abolish it highlights the public’s desire for stringent measures against corruption.”
As these hearings continue, they provide critical insights into public sentiment and potential obstacles for the bill’s advocates in Parliament. The strong opinions expressed in Bindura illustrate the complexities and emotional depth of the debate surrounding the death penalty and broader issues of justice and governance in the nation.
Government Sits On Road Construction Project
By A Correspondent
Government has dismally failed to complete a road construction project in the city of Masvingo.
The city of Masvingo has placed it on record that the said road construction project is a central government initiative…
Statement by His Worship Councillor Aleck Tabe, the Mayor of the City of Masvingo on the Tangwena Street Construction and Roundabout Project
This statement seeks to provide clarity regarding the ongoing construction of Tangwena Street and roundabout in the city of Masvingo.
While the city council acknowledges residents’ concerns regarding the perceived slow progress of the construction, it is imperative to emphasize that the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development is leading this initiative, not the city of Masvingo.
Masvingo City Council fully empathizes with the community’s desire for the timely completion of this essential project.
In addressing the delays, it’s crucial to underscore the urgency of expediting the project to ensure it reaches completion as early as possible, meeting both the expectations of the residents and the strategic objectives of the city’s infrastructure development plan.
We earnestly urge the Ministry to allocate necessary resources and streamline the construction process.
Additionally, we have full confidence in the expertise and dedication of the Provincial Road Engineer to promptly address any concerns raised by residents and stakeholders throughout the duration of the project.
Chitungwiza Child Abuse Case: Woman Charged After Beating Five-Year-Old Stepson
In Chitungwiza, a troubling case of child abuse has come to light, involving a woman accused of severely beating her five-year-old stepson. Yeukai Maisiri, the woman in question, faced charges of ill treatment of a child after allegedly using wooden switches to beat the young boy. Maisiri appeared before a magistrate in Chitungwiza and entered a plea of not guilty. She has been remanded out of custody pending a trial set for May 21.
The incident reportedly occurred after the child had an accident in bed, which led to Maisiri’s violent reaction. According to courtroom statements, the assault came to light after a concerned neighbor alerted the authorities, resulting in Maisiri’s arrest.
Legal experts emphasize the gravity of the charges. “Cases like these are particularly heinous because of the vulnerable status of the victim,” noted legal analyst Tendai Ruzvidzo. “The law is designed to protect children from all forms of abuse, and the charges reflect the seriousness of the alleged actions.”
Social workers in the community have expressed alarm over the incident. “This case is a heart-wrenching example of what many children face in environments where their guardians do not adhere to nurturing practices,” said social worker Chenai Mupandasekwa. “It underscores the need for vigilant community awareness and intervention strategies to protect vulnerable children.”
The community reaction has been one of shock and dismay. Local resident Farai Chikomo expressed his concern: “It’s devastating to hear about a child treated this way in our own community. We must do more to keep our children safe.”
As the case unfolds, it will likely ignite further discussions on child protection laws and the mechanisms in place to prevent such abuses. With the trial date approaching, all eyes will be on the proceedings as the court determines the truth and dispenses justice for the young victim.

By Showbiz Reporter | ZimEye |The sociallite Mai Titi(Felistas Murata) has been beaten up by intelligence agents who are punishing her for filming the ZANU PF President Emmerson Mnangagwa while drunk and posing as a competitor to the First Lady.
ZimEye can reveal Murata was in pain from beatings on Thursday when she was ordered not to speak about her ordeal.
The fracas sprang from an incident on Sunday when Murata uploaded a video of Mnangagwa drunk and too close for comfort to her, a clip she utilised to announce that she has powers against her critics on social media.
The clip also suggested that Auxillia Mnangagwa is no longer regarded as Mnangagwa’s wife, as Murata titled herself the people’s mother who spent the day with Mnangagwa at his Kwekwe farm. The farm is the notorious property where Mnangagwa was once reportedly caught red handed while pleasuring himself on another woman and was chased by Auxillia into a thick green maize field, where he sought refuge.
It is also the same farm that the man is accused of taking advantage of a then minor, Susan Mutami and several other females. Felistas Murata filming herself at the place thus triggers many visual horrors that torment the First Family.
“She was beaten up and told, stay away from my husband,” impeccable sources told ZimEye.
Murata’s condition was not clear at the time of writing, but she was lying low the whole day, only sparsely posting a few tid bits on her Facebook portal.
Murata has been in the act of threatening her critics and other people who are court witnesses in her many criminal cases.
The development comes at a time the Facebook Meta company sanctioned her over some of her harassments, an event that now affects her video monetisation status. – ZimEye

Malaba Violated Investigative Procedures To Fire “Sikhala Judge” Erica Ndewere, ConCourt Hears
By Court Correspondent | ZimEye | The full bench of the Zimbabwe Constitutional Court met on Wednesday 15 May 2024 to hear an application by former High Court Judge Justice Erica Ndewere against President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa in which the former Judge claims that the President dismissed her unlawfully following an unlawful process.
Chief Justice Luke Malaba and Deputy Chief Justice did not preside over the hearing which was chaired by Justice Paddington Garwe. Judges of the Supreme Court Justice Nicholas Mathonsi and Justice Tendai Uchena have been appointed Acting Judges of the Constitutional Court. The Constitution requires the full bench of the Constitutional Court to sit if a court application involves infringement of an applicant’s fundamental rights.
Sources close to the lawyers told ZimEye that Beatrice Mtetwa applied for the recusal of the top judges for their role in the removal of Justice Erica Ndewere. Both Chief Justice Luke Malaba and Deputy Chief Justice Elizabeth Gwaunza were busy at the Sheraton Conference Centre today conducting interviews for new Judges of the High Court.
Justice Erica Ndewere, who was represented by Beatrice Mtetwa of Mtwetwa, Nyambirai and Partners asked the Constitutional Court to give clarity on conditions of service of Judges as she claims that she was treated differently from other Judges under similar circumstances.
Justice Erica Ndewere wants the Constitutional Court to decide whether Statutory Instrument SI 107/2012 applies to all Judges and whether a Judge of the High Court can be dismissed without first being investigated by a panel of (3) three judges appointed in terms of Statutory Instrument 107/2012.
In a hard hitting affidavit seen by ZimEye, Justice Erica Ndewere argues that the Chief Justice used investigative procedures that are not provided for in the Code of Ethics, and usurped the powers given to the panel of three judges by law, and which usurpation is patently unlawful and has been grossly prejudicial to her and her rights.
Justice Ndewere told the Constitutional Court in her founding affidavit that in terms of section 21 of the Judicial Service (Code of Ethics) Regulations 2012, the Chief Justice is strictly required, if, in his view, it appears that a judge has conducted him or her-self in a manner that appear to violate the provisions of the Judicial Service (Code of Ethics) Regulations 2012, to set up a disciplinary committee, comprising of three sitting or retired judges to conduct investigations on the alleged Act or omission constituting the violation, and thereafter, submit its findings and recommendations regarding the appropriate disciplinary action to the Chief Justice.
Justice Erica Ndewere has argued that she should have been subjected to the peremptory investigation by three judges like all other judges before going to the President. She said that she was not investigated by a panel of three judges but her colleagues accused of several corruption charges and sexual offences had the privilege to appear before the Tribunal. She asked the Constitutional Court why she was discriminated against when her male colleagues and Justice Webster Chinamora and Justice Thompson Mabhikwa who also faced the Tribunals were allowed to appear before the disciplinary Committee. She argued that the Constitutional Court must find that this different treatment was an act of discrimination which is against the law. The President therefore acted unlawfully by following a process that was discriminatory and unlawful.
Justice Ndewere argues in a 2000 page application that judges, like all other citizens, are entitled to fair labour practices which include the right to a fair hearing in terms of the regulations that regulate their conditions of service. Said Ndewere: “There can also be no doubt that the failure to follow mandatory pre-referral procedures violated my right to administrative conduct which is lawful, impartial and both substantively and procedurally fair and my right to a fair hearing ,being rights that are protected by Section 68 and Section 69 of the Constitution respectively.”
Beatrice Mtetwa pointed that to her favour, Justice Sunsley Zisengwe had ruled that Statutory Instrument 107/2012 applies to minor offences only which do not qualify for impeachment in terms of Section 187/3 of the Constitution. The learned Judge omitted to observe that the former Judge was charged for contravening Section 19 of Statutory Instrument 107/2012, meaning that the charge is minor and therefore not impeachable.
Justice Ndewere also raises the issue that she was discriminated against when she was singled out for punishment for not completing judgements within 90 days when 17 judges other who were similarly affected were not punished.
The decision of the Constitutional Court will have far reaching implications that will define the new law that will regulate how all judges under the Judicial Service Commission will be dismissed in future.
Justice Ndewere has previously written to President Mnangagwa to complain that she was threatened and victimised by Justice Luke Malaba for refusing to accept his unlawful instructions regarding granting bail to politicians.
Justice Erica Ndewere is asking the Constitutional Court to set aside the findings of the Tribunal and to re-instate her to her position of Judge of the High Court without loss of salary and benefits.
President Mnangagwa has distanced himself from the merits of the application and wants the Chief Justice and Judicial Service Commission to appear at the Constitutional Court to respond to the accusations against them.
The protracted challenge of the dismissal of Justice Erica Ndewere from the High Court has exposed the weakness in the security of tenure of Judges in Zimbabwe. By comparison, in South Africa a Judge is removed only if Parliament makes a resolution by a two thirds majority. It took 16 years to remove South African Judge President Justice John Hlophe from the bench after being accused by the Judicial Services Commission of attempting to improperly influence other judges to rule in favour of former President Jacob Zuma.- ZimEye
Auxillia Mnangagwa Beats-Up Aides
By Political Reporter- Aides to First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa are facing both physical and emotional violence from the President’s wife to the extent of most of them requesting transfers.
Incidents of Auxillia’s alleged violence were first reported exclusively by ZimEye in 2019.“Amai is doing the opposite of what she is doing in public.
“The difference between Auxillia and Grace is that Amai becomes very physical. Vamwe Amai vaingokutuka parally, vamwe vanotokurova kumba.”
This time time a local online news portal has alleged that even state actors, including cabinet ministers and security details, are now reluctant to do official business with her.
Senior government officials who spoke to the publication alleged that President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s wife is “extremely abusive and bad-tempered most of the time”.
They also accused the first lady of “misusing” state resources through overseas and nationwide trips promoting her charity.
A senior government official who spoke to ZimLive on condition they were not named was quoted as saying:
Some of the people who have been at the receiving end of her abuse have even accused her of physical violence and using inappropriate language towards police officers, her aides and even high-ranking government officials.
Regrettably, her behaviour is far worse than that of former first lady Grace Mugabe in the twilight of her late husband’s reign.
It’s unsettling that history seems to be repeating itself, which completely runs contrary to President Mnangagwa’s way of doing things.
A second official, who said he had witnessed the first lady’s erratic behaviour at close hand, said:
She is exhibiting a troubling insensitivity and complete disregard for the dignity and rights of others.
When those in positions of authority act with impunity and total disregard for the rule of law, the foundations of democracy and justice are threatened.
It is particularly important that those in influential positions like the first lady uphold the values of respect, dignity and ethical conduct.
The people aid President Mnangagwa should institute an internal enquiry through his spy network to get a grip on the matter and “rein her in.”
Mnangagwa (61) is also accused of meddling in the running of government ministries, including calling ministers and shouting at them.
In 2019, the first lady was reportedly forced to apologise to military chiefs after an eight-minute call recording of her shouting at 1 Presidential Guard Infantry Battalion commander Colonel Samson Murombo leaked.
Last month, nine women were arrested for booing Mnangagwa during her address at Watsomba Business Centre in Manicaland Province after they had failed to get some freebies.
Presidential spokesperson George Charamba later said the charges against the nine women were withdrawn after both Mnangagwa and Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Commissioner General Godwin Tandabantu Matanga agreed that the police officers on the ground overreacted.

Gyan is one of Africa’s biggest football legends after leading Ghana to the quarter-finals of the 2010 World Cup finals hosted by South Africa.

Understanding the Far-Reaching Effects of Plastic Waste
Mnangagwa Wastes Millions On Construction Of Propaganda School : Picture
By A Correspondent|ZimEye
In a move that has ignited controversy and criticism, the Zanu PF regime under President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa has allocated significant financial resources to the construction of the Herbert Chitepo School of Ideology.
Described as a facility aimed at propagating Zanu PF ideologies, the timing of this allocation has raised eyebrows, particularly in light of the pressing issues facing the nation.
The construction of the Herbert Chitepo School of Ideology, reportedly costing millions of dollars, has drawn sharp criticism from various quarters.
At a time when Zimbabwe is grappling with a shortage of proper medical equipment and facing numerous economic challenges, the decision to prioritize the establishment of a propaganda school has been met with widespread condemnation.
A statement from the ruling Zanu PF party defends the construction, stating, “Herbert Chitepo School of Ideology Construction Complete…anyone can enrol.”
The statement highlights the features of the three-floor building, boasting six classrooms capable of accommodating 360 students, a canteen, and an IT center.
Additionally, it emphasizes that the school is open to all, aiming to provide ideological orientation across Zimbabwean society.
However, critics argue that the allocation of funds to a propaganda school, especially amidst pressing national crises, reflects misplaced priorities on the part of the government.
The decision to invest in ideological propagation rather than addressing crucial issues such as healthcare, education, and economic development has been met with skepticism and outrage from many Zimbabweans.
Furthermore, the timing of the construction has added fuel to the fire, with concerns raised about the government’s commitment to addressing the immediate needs of the population.
While the Herbert Chitepo School of Ideology may serve as a platform for advancing Zanu PF’s agenda, questions linger about its relevance and necessity in the face of more urgent challenges confronting the nation.
President Mnangagwa’s impending official opening of the school is likely to intensify the debate surrounding the allocation of funds and government priorities.
Critics argue that the government should focus on addressing the root causes of Zimbabwe’s socio-economic problems rather than investing in projects perceived as serving narrow political interests.
The controversy surrounding the construction of the Herbert Chitepo School of Ideology underscores deeper concerns about governance, resource allocation, and political priorities in Zimbabwe.
As the nation grapples with multiple challenges, the need for transparent and accountable leadership that prioritizes the welfare of its citizens has never been more pressing.

Another “Dictator” Survives Assassination Attempt
By Dipolimatic Correspondent- The Slovakia’s populist prime minister, Robert Fico, has survived an assasination attempt after on Wednesday afternoon injured in a shooting.
He was airlifted to a hospital, where his condition was said to be critical.
Fico (59) was shot in the stomach in front of a building in the central Slovak town of Handlova, where a government meeting had been held.
Handlova is around 180km north-east of the capital Bratislava.
He was greeting people in front of a cultural community centre in the central town of Handlova when several shots were fired from a crowd.
Local media reports say Fico was airlifted by helicopter to a nearby hospital before he was later flown to another hospital in Banska Bystrica, east of Handlova, as the transfer to the capital Bratislava would take too long.
President-elect and Fico ally Peter Pellegrini said he was “horrified” to hear that Fico was “the target of an assassination attempt”. He said:
I am horrified at where hatred for a different political opinion can lead. We don’t have to agree with everything, but there are many ways to express your disagreement democratically and legally.
The alleged assailant was detained by police, according to local media.
Fico returned to power after elections last year at the head of a populist-nationalist coalition, the Smer-SSD party.
He promised to halt military aid to Ukraine, criticised sanctions targeting Russia and campaigned against LGBTQ+ rights.
He, however, denied being pro-Russian.
He is also notorious for enacting draconian laws that infringes on freedom of expression.
Fico was forced to step down as prime minister following the murder of investigative journalist Jan Kuciak in 2018.

In a harrowing and heart-wrenching event, two teenagers, both aged 13, stand accused of brutally assaulting an infant, aged just three years old, to death.

Slovakia PM Survives Assassination Gunshots
Slovakia’s Prime Minister Robert Fico Survives Assassination Attempt
Slovakia was plunged into shock and disbelief as news emerged of an assassination attempt on Prime Minister Robert Fico, who was hospitalized after sustaining five gunshot wounds. The brazen attack rattled the country, prompting swift condemnation and calls for justice.
Deputy Prime Minister Tomáš Taraba provided a glimmer of hope, stating his belief that the prime minister would survive following a successful surgery. “I was very shocked and tried to contact people to figure out how serious his condition was,” Taraba recounted in an interview with BBC’s Newshour program. “Fortunately, as far as I know, the operation went well and I guess in the end he will survive,” he added.
Amidst the chaos, Defense Minister Robert Kaliňák and Interior Minister Matúš Šutaj Eštok labeled the shooting as “politically motivated.” Šutaj Eštok pointed out the timing of the attack, noting that “the suspect made the decision to do it shortly after the presidential election,” hinting at a potential motive linked to political developments.
“The attack is a direct attack on our democracy and the values we stand for,” declared Defense Minister Kaliňák, emphasizing the severity of the situation.
The assault unfolded following an off-site government meeting in Handlova, central Slovakia, where the prime minister was met by a small crowd outside the cultural center. Surveillance footage captured the harrowing moment as Fico was rushed into a vehicle by his aides, fleeing the scene to seek medical attention. Fortunately, no one else was injured in the attack.
Taraba provided grim details of Fico’s injuries, revealing that bullets had penetrated his stomach and joints. “He was heavily injured,” Taraba said. “A bullet went through the stomach and the second one hit the joints.”
Robert Fico, Slovakia’s most powerful lawmaker, holds significant influence as the head of government, responsible for key decision-making processes. Unlike the president, whose role is comparatively limited, the prime minister’s position is pivotal in shaping national policies and strategies.
As the nation grapples with the aftermath of the assassination attempt, authorities are mobilizing resources to apprehend the perpetrator and uncover the motives behind the attack. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the fragility of political stability and the imperative to safeguard democratic institutions against acts of violence and extremism. Slovakia stands united in solidarity with Prime Minister Robert Fico, wishing him a speedy recovery and reaffirming its commitment to upholding the rule of law and democratic principles.- Agencies

Varakashi Expose Police Ineptitude
By A Correspondent|ZimEye
As Zimbabwe grapples with economic challenges, the emergence of illicit moneychangers has become a pressing issue in the streets of Harare. In a startling revelation, the Zanu PF Varakashi Team has accused police officers of turning a blind eye to these activities in exchange for kickbacks, thereby hindering government efforts to revive the economy through initiatives like the Zimbabwean Investment Guidelines (ZiG).
Varakashi Team , writing on Facebook, highlighted the brazen nature of police involvement, stating, “This is openly displayed, with megaphones shouting at Boka along Beatrice Road, and Southlea Park Police moving by getting tokens to keep a blind eye. Government needs to be serious with these saboteurs.”
These allegations paint a troubling picture of law enforcement’s role in combating economic crimes.
Despite government crackdowns and efforts to regulate currency exchange, the persistence of moneychangers suggests a deeper issue rooted in corruption and collusion.
The Varakashi Team’s accusations underscore the urgent need for accountability and transparency within law enforcement agencies.
While the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has denied any involvement in corrupt activities, skepticism remains high among the public.

Magaya In Bribery Storm
By Staff Reporter- Controversial preacher and leader of Prophetic Healing and Deliverance Ministries (PHD), Prophet Walter Magaya, has bought out a Bulawayo family he defrauded.
Charles Chapindura and his wife had sued Magaya, demanding US$4 100 for failing to fulfil a promise to build a house for them under a botched housing project in Douglasdale, Bulawayo.
The lawsuit was filed under case number WCSCC 324/24.
The family accused the prophet of failing to provide the promised housing stand and he was scheduled to appear at Western Commonage Court this week but he, however, convinced the Chapindura family for an out-of-court settlement, sparing himself from embarrassment.
“The first party (Magaya) shall settle the above amount by paying an initial deposit of US$500-00 on or before the 31st of May 2024 and subsequent instalments of US$200-00 starting on or before the 30th of June 2024, up until the full amount is extinguished,” read the settlement deed.
The family, in turn, agreed to withdraw the summons filed at Western Commonage Small Claims Court.
The out-of-court deed of the settlement stated that Mr Chapindura was among a group of congregants that had entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Prophet Magaya for the Douglasdale housing project in 2016.
The document acknowledged that the Chapindura family had contributed an amount of US$4 100 and that they were withdrawing from the housing project. The parties agreed that the MoU be cancelled and that the money be restituted.
This is not the first time that Prophet Magaya has been involved in land and housing disputes.
In 2016 he was sued after admitting to unlawfully encroaching onto a neighbour’s property popularly known as “Rocks Lodge” next to PHD’s Waterfalls chapel in Harare without the consent of the legitimate owners.
The church offered to purchase the land to avoid eviction from part of Number 8 Prospect in Waterfalls.
The admission was made in a bid to seek an out-of-court settlement and to avoid eviction from the stand where PHD Ministries was carrying out construction work.
In the same year, his PHD Ministries was sued at the High Court for “invading” and encroaching onto the property owned by Panabase Consultancy (Private) Limited at Number 8 Prospect in Waterfalls.
This followed an unsuccessful attempt by PHD Ministries to purchase the two-hectare property for $235 000, a price that was turned down by Panabase as too little.
According to reports, despite a disagreement over the price, PHD “invaded” the property and allegedly destroyed some structures they had found on the land.
Panabase, through its director and Harare lawyer, Mr Shingai Mutumbwa, viewed PHD’s actions as unlawful and a way of arm-twisting the company into selling the property at an unreasonably low price.
Panabase filed an urgent chamber application at the High Court seeking the eviction of the church, Prophet Magaya, his employees and their guests from the property.
Again in 2019, Prophet Magaya was sucked into a US$900 000 land scandal after buying Kalulu Farm in Goromonzi, which had not been distributed by a deceased estate.
This was exposed in a letter dated June 7, 2019, written by Samukange Hungwe Attorneys on behalf of Nicholas Obert Mukomberanwa to the PHD leader.
The Mukomberanwa family through its lawyers sought to cancel the transaction and recover the farm.
The property was then fully paid for by the prophet after which he received a Deed of Transfer Number 2402/18.
