Trigger or Trial: Is Lethal Force Justice or Execution?

By Jane Mlambo| Five suspected criminals gunned down by police in December alone.

This stark statistic reignites a crucial debate: the use of lethal force by law enforcement.

Does it uphold justice, or cross the line into extrajudicial execution? Lawyers argue the line has been crossed.

They point to the fundamental principle of presumed innocence: everyone deserves a fair trial before facing the ultimate penalty.

Lawyer Dube aptly states, “No one has a right to kill anyone,” highlighting the gravity of taking a life without due process.

But another perspective emerges: fear for officer safety.

Lawyer Runganga calls the “shoot-to-kill policy” a “necessary evil” against armed robbers, arguing it protects officers.

Should police face a “kill or be killed” scenario, where does duty to self-preservation intersect with respect for human life?

The official police stance? No shoot-to-kill policy exists. They claim to respond proportionally to threats, only using lethal force against armed criminals who actively engage in gunfire.

However, the 2023 announcement by Commissioner-General Matanga, promising swift action against armed criminals, paints a different picture.

This heated debate exposes a larger dilemma: balancing public safety with fundamental rights.

While protecting officers is paramount, resorting to lethal force carries immense weight.

Every life lost, even that of a suspected criminal, demands accountability and raises questions about alternative measures.

Mnangagwa, Ramaphosa Endorse Another Sham Election

By A Correspondent| In a controversial move reminiscent of past election disputes, Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his South African counterpart Cyril Ramaphosa have preemptively congratulated Felix Tshisekedi on his claimed victory in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Despite glaring evidence pointing to a rigged DRC election, Mnangagwa and Ramaphosa prematurely endorsed Tshisekedi.

Before the official announcement of results on Sunday, opposition DRC figures, including Katumbi, vehemently rejected the outcome, urging the public to mobilize against what they deemed a sham election.

The electoral process was marred by logistical challenges, with numerous polling stations facing delays, material shortages, and illegible voter cards due to smudged ink.

The election, extended into a second day, faced criticism from local observers and civil society organizations, labelling the extension as illegal.

Widespread irregularities led to parts of the country continuing to cast ballots five days after the initial election day.

Tensions escalated earlier in the week, with clashes erupting between supporters of opposition candidate Fayulu and police officers.

Tear gas, thrown rocks, and barricaded opposition headquarters painted a grim picture of a nation on edge.

Opposition candidates challenging the results have a two-day window to submit their claims, after which the constitutional court has seven days to decide.

The final results are slated for January 10, with the president set to be sworn in by the end of the month.

Like Zimbabwe, DRC grapples with a history of disputed elections prone to violence, the lack of confidence in institutional integrity remains a pressing concern for many Congolese citizens.

Engineer Muzondiwa Mushambi died last week while having an excellent time with one Natasha, who resides along Mugaragunguwo Road in the high-density Chiwaridzo area.

The tragic incident has sent shockwaves through the community, leaving many in disbelief.

Sources in the Mashonaland capital reported that Engineer Mushambi, a prominent figure in Bindura, succumbed to complications related to his diabetic condition during what was described as a pleasant moment with Natasha.

The late engineer is said to have been battling diabetes, and it is believed that his sugar levels soared unexpectedly during the encounter.

Diabetes, a chronic medical condition characterized by elevated levels of blood sugar, is a widespread health concern affecting millions worldwide.

The two primary types of diabetes are Type 1, an autoimmune condition, and Type 2, associated with lifestyle factors. Individuals with diabetes often face challenges in managing their blood sugar levels, and complications can arise if the condition is not effectively controlled.

Medical experts explain that diabetes can contribute to heightened blood pressure, particularly when adrenaline levels rise.

In the case of Engineer Mushambi, it is speculated that the excitement or stress associated with the encounter may have triggered an increase in his blood sugar levels, leading to the unfortunate outcome.

Despite efforts to gather information, attempts to obtain comments from either Natasha or the Bindura town council proved unsuccessful.

The circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear, and the community is left grappling with the sudden loss of a respected engineer.

VP Chiwenga Parades Cruelty On Ex Wife In Public

By Dorrothy Moyo | In a move stirring controversy, Vice President Constantino Chiwenga has been seen parading the children he shares with his ex-wife, Marry Mubaiwa, in what many are calling an inappropriate and flagrant display of cruelty during the festive season.

Govt Of Promises And No Action Makes Another Yet Another Promise

By A Correspondent| While rain continues to batter the city and floodwaters engulf Budiriro, frustration boils over as only 27 families out of dozens displaced two years ago are offered meagre shelter – leaving current victims stranded and questioning government priorities.

This sluggish response comes as a devastating blow after a child tragically perished in the recent floods, highlighting the dire situation facing residents.

The government’s claim of fulfilling a previous promise rings hollow when faced with the overwhelming need for immediate action.

“We lost everything,” cried one anonymous victim, clutching tattered belongings.

“They told us flats were ready, but where are they now? We’re sleeping in schools, afraid for our lives and our children’s futures.”

Meanwhile, tensions flare as accusations of political exploitation surface.

Land barons with alleged Zanu-PF ties stand accused of exacerbating the crisis by illegally building on flood-prone wetlands, pushing more families into harm’s way.

Exacerbating the misery, Harare’s crumbling drainage system buckles under the deluge, turning streets into rivers and homes into cesspools.

Residents plead for help, their voices barely audible above the roar of the storm. Amidst the chaos, a lone glimmer of hope shines from Budiriro 2 Primary School, repurposed as a temporary refuge.

But with evacuation centers overflowing and resources stretched thin, the question remains: how many more must suffer before the government’s glacial response finally thaws?

This story transcends a mere flood report. It exposes a tale of delayed promises, political finger-pointing, and human lives hanging in the balance.

Beitbridge-Harare, Beitbridge-Bulawayo Highways Rehabilitation Stalled as Contractors Walk Out Over Unpaid Billions

By A Correspondent| In a stunning development, construction companies have abandoned critical road rehabilitation works along the vital Beitbridge-Harare and Beitbridge-Bulawayo highways, leaving motorists to navigate pothole-riddled chaos.

The reason? Billions of Zimbabwean dollars in outstanding payments owed by the government.

This news comes as a major blow to President Mnangagwa’s ambitious infrastructure development plans and raises serious concerns about the country’s economic stability.

Sources within the construction companies claim they haven’t received a single payment since before the July 2023 elections, leaving them crippled by fuel, materials, and operational costs.

“Road building is expensive,” one frustrated official stated.

“We need fuel, oils, and building materials. Without money, road building won’t move.”

This abandonment leaves the 500km Beitbridge-Harare highway, a key economic artery, in a state of disrepair, jeopardizing trade and regional connectivity.

The Beitbridge-Bulawayo route, equally crucial for tourism and local commerce, faces similar neglect.

The Transport and Infrastructural Development Ministry, contacted by local media, offered a tepid response, promising to “get in touch,” but failing to provide any concrete answers or timelines for resuming construction.

This silence fuels speculations about the government’s ability to handle such critical projects and address mounting financial pressures.

ZIFA Yet To Decide On Brito

Members of the ZIFA Normalisation Committee (NC) are not at consensus in terms of offering Warriors coach Baltemar Brito a new contract, Soccer24 has established.

Brito was appointed national team coach in September, with the Brazilian mentor signing a short term contract which ran concurrently with his arrangement with Highlanders, due to work permit issues.

The contract expires tomorrow, and the Lincoln Mutasa-led admistration is not on the same page as far as renewing it is concerned.

Sources told Soccer24 that some members of the NC had a discussion on Brito’s future at the recently held African Schools Football Championship.

The sources said the discussion included FIFA Forward Manager Kudzai Chitima, who has reportedly been heavily involved in key decisions made by the committee.

“Three members of the Normalisation Committee and Kudzai Chitima had a discussion concerning Brito’s future at the African Schools Football Championship at Gateway High School. Clearly they were not in agreement in terms of renewing Brito’s contract,” said the source.

“I’m not sure why, but it’s not everyone amongst them who believe Brito should continue as national team coach. Some of them (members of the NC) are also against the idea of Antonio Torres (Brito’s assistant and translator at Bosso) being part of the Warriors technical team,” added the source.

Mutasa was not reachable on his mobile phone for a comment.

Horror Accident On Emmerson Mnangagwa’s Road

Tragic Road Accident Near Gold-Rich Kwekwe Exposes Stark Infrastructure Paradox.

Survivors lucky to be alive… Accident in Kwekwe, Gweru Road.

In the shadow of wealth, a road lies worn,

A strip of tarmac, tattered and torn,
Through the heart of gold, to Mnangagwa’s gate,

A path of riches, yet a cruel twist of fate.

Here in this vision, foretold in dread,
Lies a leader, Mnangagwa on the ground, bleeding profusely, no ambulance in sight.

A tragic spectacle, on his own thoroughfare,

A road to his mansion, yet in disrepair.

Beneath the wheels of his gilded ride,

This road he travels, in arrogant stride.

To mines of gold, where billions are sown,

Yet not a penny to mend the path he’s known.

A picture so stark, a future unkind,
A tale of neglect, in wealth’s blind grind. Priorities misplaced, a perilous track, One day, perhaps, to bite fatally back.

In this poetic accident image, a prophecy clear, Of riches and ruin, both held near. A leader, a road, and gold untold, A cautionary tale, in these lines, bold.

By Farai D Hove | In a startling incident on New Years Day, several people narrowly escaped death when a commuter omnibus suffered a tyre burst and overturned approximately 30 kilometers before Kwekwe on the Gweru – Kwekwe highway. The accident, vividly captured in a photograph by the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC), has brought into sharp focus the paradoxical state of infrastructure in one of Zimbabwe’s most resource-rich areas.

The region, known for its abundant gold deposits, is home to two prominent figures linked to the infamous ‘GoldMafia’ – Emmerson Mnangagwa, Zimbabwe’s President, and Kamlesh Pattni, a controversial businessman implicated in grounding Kenya’s economy in 1993. Despite their significant influence and the wealth generated from the local mines, the road’s dilapidated condition stands in stark contrast to the area’s mineral richness.

This tragedy highlights the irony of the situation. The thinness of the tarmac on a road frequently used by these key figures, including their own access routes to the gold mines, underscores a neglect of basic infrastructure development. Critics point out that the funds required for road maintenance could easily be a fraction of the wealth extracted from these mines, yet the road remains in a perilous state.

The incident raises serious questions about the priorities of the local elite and the governance of natural resource wealth in the country. The fact that such an accident occurred in an area known for its gold mining operations, and in close proximity to the residences of Mnangagwa and Pattni, only adds to the growing concerns over the management of Zimbabwe’s natural resources and the well-being of its citizens.

As the community reels from the shock of this close call, there is a growing clamour for accountability and improved infrastructure to ensure the safety of all who travel these roads. This accident serves as a stark reminder of the often-overlooked consequences of mismanaged resources and the urgent need for responsible governance in resource-rich regions.

Winky D Dises Holy Ten & His Political Handlers

By Showbiz Reporter- Multiple award-winning Zimbabwean Dancehall artist Winky D, a.k.a. Wallace Chirumiko’s performance reached its pinnacle on December 31, 2023, at the Harare International Conference Centre (HICC), during his latest offering, Ghettocracy.

Celebrating a remarkable “2 Decades of Excellence,” the event was not merely a musical spectacle; it became a testament to Winky D’s iconic career in the music industry.

Regarded by many as the leading Zimdancehall artist, Winky D attracted an overwhelming crowd, leading to hundreds of disappointed fans being turned away due to the sell-out of tickets.

The night unfolded with a fusion of traditional Zimbabwean melodies intertwined with reggae and dancehall beats, showcasing Winky D’s unique musical prowess.

The politically charged lyrics, addressing social issues such as injustice, poverty, and corruption, resonated with the audience, establishing him as one of Zimbabwe’s veteran and greatest artists.

A highlight of the evening was Winky D’s performance of his powerful track “Ibotso” from the album Eureka, delving into corruption and the misuse of public resources by a select elite.

The song, however, has faced backlash from authorities, resulting in threats and bans on certain radio stations.

Winky D did not shy away from controversy, taking a direct swipe at fellow artist Holy Ten, with whom he collaborated on “Ibotso.”

Holy Ten distanced himself from the song’s lyrics following criticism from ZANU PF.

This move added further fuel to the fire surrounding Winky D’s bold commentary through his music.

The artist’s lyrical prowess extended beyond the stage, as he delved into the controversial August 2023 elections and claimed that his songs had been banned on local radio.

The musician passionately addressed the harsh economic realities faced by millions of Zimbabweans, forcing them to seek opportunities abroad.

However, the journey to this moment of triumph for Winky D has not been without challenges.

On March 4, 2023, police officers stormed the stage during one of his live performances, shutting down the show in an attempt to intimidate the artist due to his critical commentary.

Winky D’s Ghettocracy show, a confluence of musical brilliance and unyielding social commentary, not only celebrated his illustrious career but also solidified his reputation as an artist unafraid to speak truth to power.

Online Betting in South Africa 2024: Strategies for Successful

The stakes in UFC betting are high, and with high stakes come potential frustrations. Inconsistencies in fighter performance, unexpected upsets, and the sport’s evolving nature can discourage bettors.

This guide will delve into proven strategies tailored to the unique landscape MMA bets on the  best online betting sites in South Africa 2024. By understanding key factors influencing outcomes, you can enhance your betting game and transform the unpredictable nature of MMA.

Understanding the UFC: A Brief Introduction

At its core, the UFC is a mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion where fighters from various disciplines face off in a controlled environment. The sport encompasses multiple weight classes, allowing athletes to compete against similar size and skill opponents.

The intricacies of UFC fights, including the three-round format for non-title fights, five rounds for championship bouts, and the subjective nature of judges’ scoring, contribute to the challenge.

Additionally, the potential for knockouts, submissions, or decisions adds layers of unpredictability that can leave bettors confused.

Know Your Fighters: Analyzing UFC Athletes

One of the common pitfalls in UFC betting is underestimating the significance of knowing the fighters. The lack of awareness regarding fighters’ histories, styles, and recent performances creates a blind spot that can lead to uninformed and unsuccessful bets.

In contrast, you’ll be equipped to make informed UFC betting decisions by shedding light on fighters’ records, fighting styles, recent performances, and noteworthy achievements. By embracing a systematic approach to evaluating athletes, you’ll minimize the risk of oversight and elevate your ability to make calculated bets.

Betting Markets in UFC: Exploring Your Options

The need for more awareness about the diverse betting markets available in UFC matches can restrict bettors to conventional choices, limiting their potential for strategic betting.

By broadening your horizons, you’ll diversify your betting portfolio and elevate the thrill of predicting your favorite UFC matches.

It’s time to expand your understanding of bet types beyond the conventional outright winner. For instance, you can opt for markets, such as method of victory, rounds, and specific prop bets, opening the door to a more engaging sport betting South Africa online UFC betting experience.

Each fighter brings unique skills, whether a striker’s precision, a wrestler’s control, or a submission artist’s ground prowess. Failing to comprehend these aspects leaves bettors vulnerable to unpredictable outcomes.

By mastering the art or science of style analysis, you can predict how matchups might unfold and make more informed betting decisions.

Betting solely on a fighter’s current form neglects the valuable lessons embedded in past matchups, especially as fighters evolve, adapt, and showcase different facets of their skills against various opponents.

Responsible Betting in the Best Sportsbook in South Africa

As you embark on your UFC betting journey, remember that responsible gambling enhances, rather than diminishes, the joy of the experience. Moreover, impulsive bets, driven by emotions rather than strategy, can lead to financial strain and negatively impact mental well-being.

Ramaphosa Endorses Another Mnangagwa Style Rigged Elections

By James Gwati- In a controversial move reminiscent of past election disputes, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has preemptively congratulated Felix Tshisekedi on his claimed victory in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Despite glaring evidence pointing to a rigged DRC election, Ramaphosa’s premature endorsement echoes his questionable support for Emmerson Mnangagwa in Zimbabwe’s contested 2023 election.

Ramaphosa’s controversial endorsement raises eyebrows, echoing his past support for Mnangagwa in Zimbabwe, a move criticized by regional bodies and international observers.

Like Zimbabwe, DRC grapples with a history of disputed elections prone to violence, the lack of confidence in institutional integrity remains a pressing concern for many Congolese citizens.

By James Gwati- Controversial Destiny for Africa Network founder and Zanu PF-aligned cleric Obadiah Musindo is making headlines after confirming his engagement to a 22-year-old, sparking debates on social media.

Musindo, addressing the age gap controversy, declares plans for a spectacular 2024 wedding, aiming to set an example of a God-centered marriage.

Denying claims of being 70, Musindo passionately asserts his commitment to marrying for love, not societal expectations, as he rebuffs criticism with an upcoming celebration that promises to be Harare’s talk of the town.

In a candid interview, Musindo paints a vivid picture of his future wife, emphasizing her maturity, responsibility, and intelligence.

He shares the heartwarming revelation that his children are supportive and enamoured with their soon-to-be stepmother, dismissing sceptics with the assurance that love knows no age.

Refuting age-related claims, Musindo humorously declares, “I’m not 70; I’m turning 54 next year, and everywhere I go, people say I look ten years younger!”

As Zimbabwe’s views on age differences in relationships evolve, Musindo challenges societal norms, focusing on shared values and love rather than traditional expectations.

Identifying and Mitigating Risks on the Farm

The diversity of agricultural work environments in Southern Africa translates into a unique set of challenges and rewards for farm workers. From the physical demands of working under the sun to the mental fortitude required for tasks, each day presents an opportunity to learn, adapt, and reap the fruits of hard labor.

But the reality is that farming is a dance with danger. Statistical insights into workplace injuries and fatalities provide a sobering perspective on the challenges farm workers face. Heavy machinery, chemicals, and weather constantly threaten the well-being of those who till the soil.

Prioritizing safety is not just a choice; it’s a sacred vow to the health and livelihoods of the farmers who are the backbone of our food supply. Read on to gain valuable insights into the critical role safety plays in sustaining a thriving agricultural industry. And for those seeking a different kind of risk and reward, explore the exciting world of South Africa online casino, where entertainment meets chance.

Understanding Agricultural Hazards

Farm workers face exposure to various risks, including:

  • Machinery and Equipment Hazards: Agricultural work involves using powerful machinery and equipment, from tractors to harvesters. The interaction with these machines introduces risks such as entanglement, crush injuries, and tractor rollovers. Understanding proper operation, maintenance, and safety protocols is crucial to mitigating these hazards.
  • Chemical Exposures: Using pesticides, fertilizers, and other agrochemicals is integral to modern farming practices. However, improper handling or inadequate protective measures can lead to chemical exposures. Long-term health effects and acute reactions are potential consequences, emphasizing the need for stringent safety protocols and worker education.
  • Falls and Trips: Uneven terrain, ladders, and slippery surfaces pose a constant risk of falls and trips in agricultural environments. Whether working in the field, orchard, or barn, farm workers are susceptible to injuries ranging from sprains to fractures. Awareness, proper footwear, and maintaining clear pathways are essential preventive measures.
  • Weather-Related Risks: Farm work is often conducted outdoors, exposing workers to the unpredictable forces of nature. Extreme temperatures, lightning, and adverse weather conditions can jeopardize safety. Adequate training on weather-related precautions and providing appropriate protective gear are crucial to safeguarding workers against these elements.

The Economic Impact of Workplace Accidents on Agriculture

Beyond the human toll, workplace accidents in agriculture have profound economic ramifications, including:

Direct Costs

  • Medical Expenses: Severe injuries may require extensive medical interventions, leading to prolonged healthcare expenses.
  • Workers’ Compensation: Compensation for injured workers, including wage replacement and disability benefits, places an additional burden on the economic sustainability of farms.

Indirect Costs

  • Loss of Productivity: Workplace accidents often result in downtime, translating into reduced productivity and affecting crop yields, harvest timelines, and overall farm output.
  • Training and Replacement: Recruiting and training new personnel to replace injured workers require time and resources.

Long-Term Consequences

  • Insurance Premiums: As a consequence of workplace accidents, insurance premiums for agricultural businesses may increase.
  • Reputation and Market Impact: A poor safety record can tarnish the reputation of a farm, affecting relationships with suppliers, buyers, and consumers.

Governmental and Societal Costs

  • Social Services: Public resources are allocated to support rehabilitation and reintegration into the workforce.
  • Legal and Regulatory Compliance: Farms may face legal consequences and regulatory penalties following workplace accidents.

Implementing Safety Protocols on the Farm

The first step towards safeguarding farm workers is a thorough risk assessment, like surveying the land for potential hazards. This assessment examines every facet of the farm’s operations, from tilling the soil to processing the harvest. Each task is scrutinized for potential threats.

Prioritizing the Threats

Not all threats are created equal. Some, like operating faulty machinery, pose a high risk of immediate injury. Others, like long-term exposure to chemicals, may have less immediate but potentially more serious consequences. By considering the severity and likelihood of each hazard, farm owners and managers can focus their safety efforts on the areas where they’ll have the most significant impact.

Building a Wall of Protection

With the risks prioritized, it’s time to build the defenses. This means developing clear and comprehensive safety guidelines and procedures for each task on the farm. These guidelines should cover everything from the safe operation of machinery to properly handling chemicals to working safely with animals.

Accessibility is Key

Ensure these guidelines are readily available to all workers through comprehensive training programs and easy-to-understand posted documentation. Regular training sessions ensure everyone is up-to-date on the latest safety procedures, while readily available documentation lets workers quickly refresh their memory on specific tasks.

Preparing for the Unforeseen

Even the most meticulous planning can’t predict every eventuality. Accidents, injuries, and unforeseen circumstances can strike at any time. That’s why a well-articulated emergency response plan is crucial. This plan should outline the steps to take in an emergency, from minor injuries to major accidents. It should include:

  • Clearly defined roles and responsibilities: Who contacts emergency services? Who administers first aid? Who secures the scene?
  • Accessible contact information: Easy-to-find phone numbers for emergency services, medical personnel, and key farm personnel are essential.
  • Regular drills and practice: Regularly practicing the emergency response plan ensures everyone knows what to do in a crisis, minimizing confusion and maximizing response time.

By taking these steps, farm owners and managers can create a comprehensive safety plan that safeguards the well-being of their workers. Remember, a safe farm is not just a productive one; it’s a happy one where everyone can reap the rewards of their hard work without fear of harm.

Bulawayo woman remanded in custody over husband’s death

Ndlovu was remanded in custody to January 11th pending trial at the High Court. The court heard that on December 6th, 2023, following a reported domestic dispute, Mugiyo was found injured in their rented room. He was declared dead by ambulance personnel upon arrival.

Prosecuting counsel, Mr Tafara Dzimbanashe, presented details of the investigation, but refrained from disclosing specifics involving the nature of the alleged altercation or the cause of death. Ndlovu’s landlady, Ms Sarah Mwanza, confirmed finding Mugiyo injured and provided information regarding the couple’s tenancy.

By Promise Mkwananzi: Debunking Hopewell’s Lies

By Promise Mkwananzi| It is false to say that 2023 was not a successful year for the opposition leader Advocate Nelson Chamisa and the party he leads, the Citizen’s Coalition For Change (CCC).

The CCC scored an astounding victory against the ZANU PF regime in the August 2023 elections and the regime was forced to hurriedly announce a fake result which they had to pull down from their pages after figures failed to tally.

Even going by the regime’s cooked figures, the CCC was still able to upset ZANU-PF’s two thirds aspiration, win 33 out of the 34 local authorities. Our calculations also show that the party had the highest vote share since 2000, penetrating areas that had been hitherto no-go areas, signifying the efficacy and effectiveness of the Mugwazo approach.

These milestones also meant that for the first time since the inception of the opposition in Zimbabwe, we were able to expose ZANU-PF barbaric rigging tactics and convince all election observer missions including, for the first time, SADC and AU. Despite the fact that Mnangagwa is defacto on the throne, SADC and AU have not formally endorsed his election sham as a legitimate reflection of the true will of the people of Zimbabwe, a major success indeed.

This is exacerbated by the fact that the very Nelson Chamisa you despise has stood strong and refused to budge to ZANU-PF “carrot or stick”. Chamisa has been principled and strong enough and refused to yield to both ZANU-PF intimidation and trinkets, a powerful milestone in a situation where for an ordinary opposition leader it would have been easier and more safer to capitulate than to stand for what is right. We salute Nelson Chamisa in this regard and urge him to remain vigilant and truthful to the cause of the people of Zimbabwe until final victory.

The opposition is strong and robust as evidenced by the powerful campaign it staged against a limited budget and a ruthless regime intent on stiffling a free and fair election. The victories highlighted above, even going by the official figures point to a strong and well organised political vehicle. This is further confirmed by political scholars in the regime who identify the CCC as one of the strongest and most organised oppositions in Southern Africa. A random comparative sample of vote share percentages of the CCC against several opposition offshoots in the region show that the CCC is always leading. For example, the DA and EFF in South Africa fall abysmally short of the 48% vote share attained by the CCC in Zimbabwe against very difficult and complex variables and other factors compared to South Africa for example media freedom and operating political environment.

The opposition is not on a self destruct button. Instead it is ZANU-PF that are the authors and sponsors of the chaos and “divisions” we have witnessed in the CCC over the last couple of months. ZANU-PF has created implants, proxies and impostors who masquerade as analysts, journalists and disgruntled party Cadres who are used to destabilize the Citizens movement through illegal recalls and others such as Hopewell who are hired to ferment false narratives under the guise of journalism and analysis. It is imperative to state that the true narrative is that ZANU-PF lost the elections and suffers a legitimacy crisis and we ought to work together through political dialogue to establish the path of legitimacy. To say that the opposition lost and is divided or self destructing is a false narrative being created to divert our attention from the real culprit and to try and hoodwink us to look internally rather than at the external legitimacy quagmire. We must refuse to miss the opportunity to hold ZANU-PF accountable for all it’s transgressions including the stolen election in the name of imagined, non-existent internal implosions. While there are internal contradictions normal in any organisation of the nature and magnitude of the CCC, there are no fundamental differences as to the principles and common objectives of the movement as reflected by the cohesion in the organisation’s strategic apex body, namely the Citizen’s National Assembly (CNA), with the internal consensus cascading to the cluster leaders all the way down to our street and village Champions. The party is solid and unequivocal on its endorsement of President Nelson Chamisa’s leadership.

It is also not true that we have done nothing about the rigged elections. We have challenged the election result and rejected the pyrric victory pronounced by Mnangagwa and his cronies. We have instituted political programs on the ground to reject this fraud and we continue to work with SADC and the rest of the international community in rejecting the sham and calling on the restoration of legitimacy through the process of political dialogue leading to a Transitional Authority mandated to conduct a fresh, if not an early, free and fair election that will restore Zimbabwe to legitimacy and legality.

The two million plus supporters of the party cannot be psycophants as suggested by Hopewell. They may be less educated, less exposed but they are certainly not psychpants. They have their own agency and discernment, they’re rational actors who are perfectly capable of making cost-benefit analysis based on their peculiar circumstances and arriving at well reasoned decisions to support and vote for CCC. Those individuals who are have “power greediness” as described by Hopewell, if found out, will be weeded out of the party. We want individuals who have appetite not for power but for the tasks at hand, to assist President Chamisa and the CCC to realise the vision for a new Great Zimbabwe for everyone.

There is no mess that was foreseen and no truth that was told by Hopewell. The real mess he should have forseen and perhaps foretold, which he didn’t is the unprecedented barbarism that was employed by ZANU-PF in its rigging tactics in this election. CCC won the elections and perfomed beyond the expectations of many prophets of doom who projected that Chamisa would not exceed twenty percent in the Presidential election. For far too long, many falsehoods have been perveyed under the cover of journalism and analysis by hired guns who seek to divert CCC from the real issue to focus on internal self defeating causes.

Speaking on unfulfilled promises, I wonder why Chamisa who is not on the throne is held liable to fulfill promises more than Mnangagwa who has been sitting at the helm for two terms now and seeking an illegal third term is not being held to account for the countless promises he has made to the people of Zimbabwe including affrodable and accessible healthcare, free education and robust electricity. There is certainly a paradoxical curiosity in this regard. Indeed it has been a horrible year Hopewell. My only difference with you is that you cannot attribute that horrible year to Chamisa who is not in power as opposed to Mnangagwa and his ZANU-PF who are not just in power but also implicated in several grand schemes of looting and corruption including the hold Mafia exposed by Aljezeera and indeed many others to the severe detriment of the common person.

It is patently false to state that foreign missions do not understand what is happening in Zimbabwe. They fully understand and they have through various platforms including observer Missions and diplomatic statements pronounced their position clearly including refusing to endorse Mnangagwa’s sham, to support his illegitimate and corrupt government and further international isolation.

The party did not and still does not sideline anyone. All leaders are more than welcome to participate and positively contribute towards achieving the change that Zimbabweans expressed on August 23 election. There is noone more equal than the other in CCC. All are equal before the struggle and bear the same scars ans value through their diversity. Some are mature and more experienced, others are adventurous and more energetic; all these attributes must positively complement each other to make the movement stronger and better positioned to achieve it’s objectives. The supporters are wise and alert. They know who their leaders are and they have full confidence. Foreign missions may or may not understand why citizens support the leaders they support, it is neither here nor there. That is the essence of democracy. Their role is to support Zimbabwe achieve the desired democratic milestones to allow Zimbabweans to choose leaders of their choice freely without fear not to dictate which leaders Zimbabweans must support or choose.

CCC is an intergeneration party composed of senior and youthful leaders blending together well to create a unique and effective contingent of leadership. It is foolhardy to suggest that the inclusion or exclusion of a handful “capable leaders” would tilt ZANU-PF’ s determination to steal the election. It is the prerogative of the collective not individuals to achieve this mammoth task and the Citizens in their collective will pursue, recover and restore the people’s victory. Unity is key and remains the cornerstone of the party but it cannot be unity for the sake of unity. It has to be the unity of the like minded, unity of purpose and genuine unity of action and the party strives to maintain and continue to encourage the vitality of unity in wining Zimbabwe for change.

As we enter the new year, the year of our Lord, 2024 let us remain faithful to the Almighty, loyal to the cause and hopeful of a new brighter and greater future for all Zimbabweans.

Dr Mavaza Says CCC A Chaotic Mess In 2023 | FULL TEXT

Will Calm Return to CCC Politics in 2024?

By DR. MASIMBA MAVAZA

This year, the opposition has experienced its most disastrous period ever since its formation. The ZANU PF party has built up a lead in the polls while ironically gaining power from the top ranks of the opposition. In October, a rare calm descended on Zimbabwean politics as news emerged from Bulawayo of a great cyclone named Cyclone Tshabangu sweeping through opposition politics, taking no prisoners. This moment of stillness came in a year of wild upheaval, bringing CHAMISA back to reality. Meanwhile, ZANU PF began and ended 2023 by consistently emphasizing the need to reduce opposition control of urban voters. In January, President Mnangagwa outlined his party’s priorities for 2023, one of which was winning the August elections. His task was made easier when the main opposition confused itself by implementing a strategy that brought more confusion than clarity.

After a prolonged legal battle, Chamisa entered the August 2023 elections with an ambiguous strategy. This ambiguity has long plagued CCC, leading to political and economic turmoil. CCC supporters have lost the energy and enthusiasm that once fueled their creativity, overwhelmed by recent events that have shaken the foundation of the opposition movement.

Referred to as the Tshabangu fiasco, these events rocked the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC). The CCC emerged as a formidable force in the 2023 harmonized elections, challenging the ruling party Zanu PF and its leader, President Emmerson Mnangagwa. The CCC garnered 48% of the presidential vote, while Zanu PF secured 50.8%, a narrow and disputed victory. The CCC also narrowly won enough seats in the National Assembly to prevent a Zanu PF majority, becoming the largest opposition bloc in Zimbabwe’s history. However, as fate would have it, Tshabangu deepened the divisions that emerged after the elections.

Chamisa’s sidelining of senior CCC members marked the culmination of a period of extreme turbulence. His dictatorship, described as Strategic Ambiguity, alienated his allies, causing a significant shift in the CCC’s political landscape and setting Chamisa up for failure. “It’s probably going to be the year when the opposition lost the chance of winning. It’s hard to see how they can win a majority next time when they use confusion to create order,” it is said.

Chamisa hopes to benefit from what his party members call a confused confusion, but this incompetent political management has given ZANU PF a significant majority margin. The events within the CCC show the damage they have suffered over the past year, giving ZANU PF a free lead. This suggests that Chamisa, grappling with a wave of recalls, has not regained much of the ground lost, and recovery from such a loss seems impossible.

For CCC, a key change in 2023 was the voters’ perception of Chamisa’s leadership, the disastrous handling of the party, and the endless infighting, leading to the conclusion that the game was up for the opposition. The situation on the ground indicates the public expects a ZANU PF government for a long time, a perception that negatively impacts CCC.

According to political analysts, the Tshabangu trauma also marked a high point for the populist surge that manifested in the first few months of Chamisa’s rise. We can safely say that 2023 was the year of reality and material facts, problematic for populists who thrive on confusion. The current CCC is led by leaders who lack vision and a clear plan.

Chamisa and former student activists fit into a similar mold, offering voters unflashy stability, which is ambiguous. Voters have likely reached the end of the idea that governance can be achieved by merely changing the party’s prime minister every few months.

2023 brought an end to the populist idea of carelessly proposing ideas without considering their financial implications. Tshabangu has become a “still point in the turning world of opposition politics.” In this time of Cyclone Tshabangu, ZANU PF will be the ultimate beneficiary of this trend, and Zimbabweans can sense a change in the direction of the political wind.

2023 was the year that the relationship between the opposition and itself changed dramatically. Chamisa is leading the opposition into a more erratic phase of political administration. Tshabangu’s impact runs deep in opposition politics. The majority of people now accept, regardless of how they voted, that CCC would not deliver a land of milk and honey.

There came a moment when people started admitting that Chamisa was a disaster for Zimbabwean politics. ZANU PF’s victory in the December by-elections suggests a growing number of people regret voting for CCC in the August general elections.

Zimbabweans now believe that Chamisa’s ousting from CCC will mark a watershed moment, allowing other opposition leaders to start repairing the damage and forge a new entity.

Zimbabweans now believe that Chamisa’s ousting from CCC will mark a watershed moment, allowing other opposition leaders to start repairing the damage and forge a new partnership in a less toxic atmosphere. Zimbabwean politics can now be discussed without reference to Chamisa. He has moved on, and so have we.

Cyclone Tshabangu also raised a profound question for CCC: what is CCC for? CCC tried its best over a number of years to blame ZANU PF for their predicament. They even attempted to attribute Tshabangu to ZANU PF, but his umbilical cord was stubbornly attached to CCC. In fact, 2023 proved beyond any doubt that there are no quick fixes to the opposition’s problems and that the public is fed up with politicians shifting the blame. Chamisa and CCC will now have to live with that uncomfortable legacy.

The support for Chamisa is now dwindling, with even former allies like Biti and Ncube turning against him, indicating that he is not the right candidate for the job. Effectively, we are entering 2024 without a strong opposition and without independent legislators.

Mnangagwa’s Surprise Return Sparks Military Coup Fears

By James Gwati- President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s abrupt interruption of his leave to attend the 7th National Thanksgiving and Dedication Service in Bulawayo Sunday has fueled speculation of a potential coup, raising questions about trust in his deputies and internal party dynamics.

Currently on leave, Mnangagwa temporarily left his vacation to officiate at the event held at the Zimbabwe International Exhibition Center (ZIEC) in Bulawayo.

This move has heightened suspicions regarding his confidence in his acting deputies, Constantino Chiwenga and Kembo Mohadi.

Chiwenga, who led the November 2017 coup that ousted former President Robert Mugabe, is acting as the President during Mnangagwa’s absence.

The President’s decision to attend the national event during his leave has ignited concerns about his perceived vulnerability and potential power struggles within the ruling Zanu PF party.

Prior to Mnangagwa’s leave, his spokesperson, George Charamba, had stated that the President would spend his one-month break in the country.

“His Excellency the President, Dr E.D. Mnangagwa, this week begins his traditional annual month-long official leave. He intends to spend the break in the country, and will interrupt it now and then to fulfil certain fixtures requiring his personal attention. The two Vice Presidents, Gen (Retd) Dr C.G.D.N. Chiwenga, and Col (Retd) K.C.D. Mohadi will take turns to act while the President is on leave”, said Charamba last week.

This further raises questions about President Mnangagwa’s perceived insecurity in his presidential position, which he attained through a coup.

The President’s tenure has been marked by shifting political dynamics, including the reversal of previous agreements.

Initially, Mnangagwa had pledged to rule for five years before handing over power to Chiwenga, a commitment that has been overridden by Mnangagwa’s public declarations of ruling until 2030.

The speculation of internal power struggles has been further fueled by rumours within Zanu PF suggesting that Chiwenga is consolidating support to potentially challenge Mnangagwa’s leadership.

These uncertainties come against the backdrop of Mnangagwa’s ascent to power through a coup in 2017.

As the nation gathers for the Thanksgiving and Dedication Service, Mnangagwa who has already arrived in Bulawayo, is expected to address the attendees, shedding light on his failing government’s plans for the upcoming year.

The event, chaired by Prophet Andrew Wutawunashe, aims to unite the nation and seek divine intervention for accelerated economic growth.

The theme for this year’s service is ‘A time to work hard in unity under God to build our nation,’ emphasising the collective effort required for national prosperity.

The unexpected return of President Mnangagwa adds a layer of intrigue to an already eventful gathering, sparking concerns about the stability of the political landscape in Zimbabwe.

BREAKING NEWS: Wutaunashe Church Humiliates Mnangagwa

As the President stepped into the throng, a sea of faces greeted him, not with the loud cheers and adulation that once heralded his arrival, but with a palpable silence, heavy and thick. This was a moment etched in irony, where the grandeur of power met the humbling reality of public disapproval.

In the shadows of the 2023 election, an event marred by allegations and whispers of rigging, the voices of 14 million dissenters echoed silently through the crowd. Each face in the multitude seemed to whisper a story of disappointment, a narrative of lost faith in a system that once promised fairness and integrity.

The President, a figure once towering in the public eye, now seemed diminished, dwarfed by the sheer weight of unspoken reproach. The air was tense, charged with an electric current of unsaid words and unvoiced frustrations.

As Emmerson Mnangagwa walked into the church building. Also watch the running live video below…

It was as though the crowd had collectively chosen silence as their weapon, a quiet defiance that spoke louder than any protest.

As he walked, each step felt heavier, burdened not just by the gravity of his office but by the realization of a trust broken, a covenant with the people now fractured. The irony was bitter, a stark contrast to the triumphant processions of the past. Where once there were cheers, now there was only a hush, a low murmur that seemed to carry the weight of a million unfulfilled promises.

Yet, in this moment of palpable disapproval, there was a hidden lesson, a reminder that power is not just held but bestowed, a trust given by the people and for the people. The President, surrounded by a sea of silent judgment, was confronted with the ultimate truth: that leadership is not just about winning elections, but about winning hearts, a feat far more daunting and far more noble.

Amid all this, it is Emmerson Mnangagwa’s own prophet, who leaked the beans to the public that something was terribly wrong, and needs to be immediately rectified, beginning with a public apology to the Zanu PF Leader.

In the quiet of the crowd, amidst the murmurs of dissent, there lay a profound message – a call for introspection, for change, for a return to the ideals that once made the office he held a symbol of hope and progress. It was a call that echoed in the silence, a poetic irony that spoke volumes in its hush, a lesson in humility and the unyielding power of the silent voice of the people.

Chiwenga Gun Shot Hits 360 Bus Drivers

By-The Police have arrested more than 360 bus drivers for driving above stipulated speed limits, the state media has reported.

These arrests come at a time when acting President Constantino Chiwenga has directed the Police to apprehend all drivers who are caught flouting the rules of the road.

in a statement Sunday, Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said most of the arrests were made during the festive season. He said:

In a concerted effort to enforce road regulations and enhance public safety, law-enforcement authorities have arrested at least 368 bus drivers during this month alone for speeding.

Most of the arrests were made during the festive season holidays and we continue to urge bus drivers to respect the sanctity of life and their passengers.

In June , Transport minister Felix Mhona, promulgated Statutory Instrument 118 of 2023 which made it mandatory for passenger public service vehicles (buses/kombis) and other heavy vehicles to install speed limit and monitoring devices on their vehicles.

Public transport operators have until tomorrow, 01 January 2024, to comply with the Government directive to equip their vehicles with speed-limiting and monitoring devices.

Speaking to The Sunday Mail, the Zimbabwe Passenger Transport Organisation (ZPTO) urged public transport operators to comply with the new regulations. He said:

Bus operators are required to comply with this directive by January 1 by ensuring the installation of the necessary speed limiting and monitoring devices on their vehicles.

The tracking system has helped reduce the number of accidents. But we need to do more; we have operators who have not submitted their fleet and tracking numbers.

The Police must help us to enforce that. As bus operators, we have been disciplining our drivers internally.

The speed tracking system restricts the maximum speed of buses to 100km/h on open roads.

Bus operators and the ZRP have established a speed tracking centre at Harare Central Police Station to closely monitor the adherence of drivers to the prescribed speed limits.

Chinotimba “Mahure” Video Song Goes Viral

By Showbiz Reporter- A molonised video song of the former Buhera South MP, Joseph Chinotimba, denying allegations that a prostitute he had hired stole his vehicle during the Christmas holiday has gone viral.
The saga began with false accusations alleging that Chinotimba’s car was stolen while he was at his girlfriend’s house. These rumours, which have since been proven baseless, led to a flurry of social media activity, including a video by Chinotimba himself, appealing to the public to dismiss these unfounded claims.
This video, initially intended to clear his name, caught the attention of the renowned music producer, Clive Mono Mukundu. Known for his Midas touch in the music industry, Mukundu saw potential in the video and transformed it into a song. Utilizing his expertise in production, Mukundu worked his magic on Chinotimba’s heartfelt appeal, turning it into a music track that’s quickly gaining popularity.
Listeners might be forgiven for thinking that Chinotimba deliberately recorded the track in a professional studio, given its polished sound. However, the song is, in fact, a creative reworking of the same social media clip where Chinotimba desperately asked for public respect and understanding.
The lyrics of the song, “Ukaona vachi famba, uniti vakanaka, mwoyo yavo yakaipa, vanofunga zvekutengesa,” which translates to “If you see them traveling around, you’ll think they are nice people, when their hearts are evil, they are always thinking of selling out,” resonate with many. Jah Prayzah Overtaken By Chinotimba Overnight Through Monolization

By Showbiz Reporter |

In a surprising turn of events, former Buhera South MP Joseph Chinotimba has emerged as an unlikely music sensation, overshadowing even renowned artists like Jah Prayzah. This unexpected journey began with unfounded rumors about Chinotimba’s car being stolen while he was at his girlfriend’s house. These baseless accusations triggered a social media frenzy, including a video message from Chinotimba himself, aimed at refuting the claims.

Mukundu, known for his exceptional talent in the music industry, recognized the potential in Chinotimba’s video and transformed it into a song. Using his production prowess, Mukundu turned the heartfelt appeal into a professionally crafted track that has swiftly gained widespread attention.

The song’s lyrics, “Ukaona vachi famba, uniti vakanaka, mwoyo yavo yakaipa, vanofunga zvekutengesa,” which translates to “If you see them traveling around, you’ll think they are nice people, when their hearts are evil, they are always thinking of selling out,” have struck a chord with many. Mafume Vows To Finish Rufaro Stadium In Time For New PSL Season

The refurbishment of Rufaro Stadium in Harare – which is one of the foremost signature projects for City of Harare (COH) as regards its stadia refurbishment projects – has registered significant progress and will be ready for use for next year’s local football season, Harare Mayor Jacob Mafume said in a statement on Friday.

The mayor remarked that progress at Rufaro Stadium is at an advanced stage, with Phase 1 of the renovation works having been completed.

The first phase of renovating Rufaro Stadium, a sporting fortress which boasts of a rich heritage in terms of sport, culture and entertainment, entailed general refurbishment plans and works, as well as redesigning of the stadium in conformity with best practices and standards as per FIFA guidelines.

In light of the completion of Phase 1 of renovation, Mafume intimated that the stadium will be ready for use in the 2024 football season.

Mafume stated: “A new modern secure car park was constructed as well as the B-Arena. The whole drainage from Rufaro Stadium was redeveloped and new lawn irrigation system installed.

“Extension of changing rooms, construction of a perimeter walls and rehabilitation of ablution facilities was done to our satisfaction. We are planning to officially Commission the first phase of the Renovation Works. Rufaro Stadium will be ready for use in the 2024 football season.”

Zimbabwe’s Premier Soccer League (PSL) domestic football season typically commences around April, and ends in November or December.

The anticipation of Harare’s city council is that Rufaro Stadium will be ready for use by April 2024, after several false starts this year derailed the reopening of the stadium.

The mayor said that the local authority is desirous of rehabilitating sporting facilities around the city with the intention of creating access to social amenities for youths.

“We intend to rehabilitate sporting facilities so that our young people have access to social amenities. This we hope will help us in the fight against drugs and substance abuse in our communities,” Mafume said.

“In this spirit, that we intend to rehabilitate include (sic): Gwanzura, Dzivarasekwa and Mabvuku Stadia. We should also be able to host the Premier Soccer League Matches.”

Mafume implored the private sector to utilize private-public partnerships in order to bring these plans to fruition.

“For us to be able to rehabilitate the stadia to acceptable standards, we call upon the private sector and corporates to participate in these initiatives,” said the mayor.

The plans to renovate the city’s dilapidated infrastructure, with the goal of improving residents’ access to social amenities, is not only confined to sporting facilities.

Mayor Mafume highlighted that the city intends to commission other projects in 2024 that include clinics and small scale industry and trading areas.

The mayor proclaimed that city will commission Chitubu Clinic in 2024, and other refurbishment projects that include “the renovation of Carter House into a state of the art enhanced maternity clinic to cater for the population which utilize our facilities, remodeling the of Glenview Area 8 Home Industry, completion of the Administration block at Mabvuku Enhanced Poly Clinic, Completion of Seke – Dieppe People Market and start construction of Marlborough and Sunningdale Clinics.”

Public infrastructural facilities and amenities under the purview of City of Harare have over the years suffered massive neglect, dereliction, and have become decrepit, which is a major disservice to residents as this impinges on their access to public social services.

Amid a disconcerting stadiums crisis in Zimbabwe that saw several local teams sharing one venue, the completion of Rufaro Stadium renovation works has been moving at a sluggard pace.

In August 2023, City of Harare postponed the handover of Rufaro Stadium for resumption of Premier Soccer League action in the capital. Jacob Mafume, who was mayor at the time, wanted to commission the stadium for use on 10 August 2023.

Despite the city’s wish to reopen the stadium for use at the time, it emerged that the stadium was not yet officially approved by the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) First Instance Board (FIB) and concomitantly disallowed to host any PSL games until it passed the inspection tests.

Reports surfaced that Harare City sources had indicated that there was no technical inspection done by the municipal engineers themselves, amid allegations that the false starts in the commissioning of the stadium were due to underhand political machinations.

ZIFA at the time advised City of Harare to ensure that the stadium is inspected before hosting any topflight league matches.

It is hoped that this time around, the city council of Harare will not backtrack in reopening then iconic Rufaro Stadium.

CCC Says Blocking Youth Leader On Twitter Was Accidental

In a surprising turn of events, the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) has issued a public apology to party member Tererai Obey Sithole after accidentally blocking him on Twitter. The incident, brought to light by Sithole himself on another platform, has sparked questions about internal communication and transparency within the opposition party. In a series of tweets, the CCC’s official account acknowledged the error, stating that Sithole’s block was “never our intention” and occurred “under unclear circumstances.” They emphasized their policy of allowing open engagement with the party, even from critics and opponents. Blocking a fellow member, the CCC wrote, would be “unfortunate” and contradict their mission of building a better Zimbabwe for all. This incident comes at a pivotal time for the CCC, as they continue to navigate the aftermath of the contested 2023 elections and grapple with Zimbabwe’s ongoing political and economic challenges. Critics, however, point to the Twitter block as a potential symptom of deeper internal discord within the party. Some question whether the leadership truly embraces dissenting voices, while others wonder about the effectiveness of their social media communication strategies. Sithole, a vocal supporter of the CCC and outspoken critic of the ruling ZANU-PF party, has yet to publicly respond to the apology. The apology has generated mixed reactions on social media. Some supporters commended the party for taking responsibility and demonstrating transparency. Others remain skeptical, demanding a more thorough explanation for the incident and assurances that it will not be repeated. Whether this tweet-storm signifies a minor hiccup or a deeper internal rift within the CCC remains to be seen. However, the episode undoubtedly casts a shadow over the party’s image and raises questions about their commitment to open dialogue and engagement, both within their own ranks and with the broader Zimbabwean public.

Govt Secures Flats For Budiriro Floods Victims

The government has secured flats for flood victims in Harare’s Budiriro suburb, with more assistance being promised.

Following the flash floods which caused a trail of destruction in Harare and other parts of the country, the government through the Ministry of Housing and Social Amenities has swiftly come to the rescue of the victims by availing flats in Dzivarasekwa Extension suburb in Harare.

Civil Protection Department Chief Director, Mr Nathan Nkomo said the flats are earmarked for the 43 families in Budiriro 5B, adding that the allocation is expected soon.

“We are here in Dzivarasekwa Extension suburb in Harare where flood victims in Budiriro will be relocated. So, what is left are a few touch-ups and we are happy that we are using our local capacity. Once the rain subsides, we are finishing the touch-ups. So, we are expecting to allocate the victims in a week. Most importantly I want to applaud the government for availing flats for the victims in Budiriro. This is the lasting solution to the problem we have been facing in Budiriro 5B.”

The government has also engaged private contractors for the rehabilitation of the Sesame Bridge, which was destroyed by rains in Gokwe on Wednesday.

“We have already engaged the private contractors who are willing to take up the rehabilitation process. We also have our officers on the ground who are working together with the local communities in trying to make sure that essential services reach the affected people,” added Mr Nkomo.

Statistics from the Civil Protection Department indicate that more than 70 people have succumbed to rain-related disasters this year.

By A Correspondent

The political situation in Zimbabwe is characterized by a complex and dynamic landscape.

The Zanu PF leader Emmerson Mnangagwa has been in power since November 2017, following the ousting of long-time leader Robert Mugabe.

Here are some key points to peruse as Zimbabweans keenly wait for change…

Political Transition:

Mnangagwa’s ascent to power was initially met with optimism for political and economic reforms.

However, concerns about human rights violations and electoral issues have persisted.

Economic Challenges: Zimbabwe faces significant economic challenges, including hyperinflation, unemployment, and a struggling agricultural sector. These issues have contributed to public dissatisfaction.

Human Rights Concerns: Reports of human rights abuses, political violence, and suppression of dissent have raised international concerns. The government’s approach to addressing these issues will likely influence its standing both domestically and internationally.

Electoral Dynamics: The conduct of elections is a crucial aspect. The fairness and transparency of the electoral process can impact the legitimacy of the government.

Future elections will be closely watched for adherence to democratic principles.

Mr Mnangagwa is also using political proxy Sengezo Tshabangu to weaken the CCC led by President Nelson Chamisa but so far he has dismally failed to do so.

International Relations:

Zimbabwe’s relationships with other nations, particularly regional powers and the international community, play a role in shaping its political landscape. Diplomatic efforts and foreign policy decisions can impact the country’s standing.

Mnangagwa assumed the presidency and promised a fresh start for the country, pledging economic reforms, anti-corruption measures, and a commitment to rebuilding international relations.Yet, the implementation of these promises has been met with mixed results.

Mnangagwa’s presidency has faced criticism for its handling of economic challenges, including hyperinflation, unemployment, and food shortages.

The character of his leadership has been tested by protests, some met with a heavy-handed response from security forces, raising concerns about democratic freedoms.

Mnangagwa’s character also comes into focus in terms of his foreign policy approach. His efforts to re-engage with the international community have been marked by diplomatic initiatives, but challenges persist in restoring Zimbabwe’s global standing. In assessing Emmerson Mnangagwa’s character, it is essential to acknowledge the nuances that define his political journey. He remains a figure shaped by the tumultuous history of Zimbabwe, embodying both the aspirations for liberation and the controversies that accompanied the exercise of power.

As he continues to navigate the challenges facing his nation, the true measure of Mnangagwa’s character will be revealed through his actions and their impact on the future of Zimbabwe.

Bosso, DeMbare Plead For Funding

HIGHLANDERS and Dynamos have been making frantic efforts to persuade petroleum giants Sakunda Holdings to sign another sponsorship contract with the two Premier Soccer League sides with the current deal lapsing on Sunday.

Sources told NewsDay Sport that some of the club officials have had meetings with the Sakunda bosses on a possible new sponsorship deal.

Long-time Highlanders benefactor, Retired Colonel Tshinga Dube, engaged Sakunda owner Kudakwashe Tagwirei at a social and informal platform and was assured that the petroleum giant will continue funding the two sides.

The source said Dube was attending the Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga’s wedding in Harare when he made the social call on Tagwirei.

“Colonel Tshinga attended Vice-President Chiwenga’s wedding at the weekend and that is where he met with Tagwirei and informed the Sakunda boss that the Highlanders leaders were worried anout their financial future. He was told that the company is still going to sponsor the club. It was just a social call and not anything official from Highlanders but Colonel Dube was assured that Sakunda will continue bankrolling Bosso. It’s just that Sakunda have not come up with an official position,” the source said.

Dube is behind several Bosso projects including the gold mine at Inyathi and has previously donated a bus to the Bulawayo giants.

He is believed to be the man behind the Highlanders’ leadership meeting with President Emmerson Mnangagwa in 2021 where the President assured to assist the club in their mining venture, amid allegations from sections of the club membership that the institution was captured by Zanu PF.

Another source said that in the past two weeks, Highlanders officials have been on bended knees as they engaged Sakunda but nothing concrete has come up yet.

Dynamos are also said to be in contact with Sakunda.

Will Mnangagwa Ever Resolve Economic Turmoil In Zimbabwe?

Civil Society and Opposition:

The role of civil society organizations and the effectiveness of opposition parties in shaping public discourse and influencing political change are essential factors.

Hauna Man In Alleged Murder Of His 13yr Old Daughter

By Children’s Rights Reporter- A Hauna Village man in Mutasa District, Manicaland Province, Amos Nyamangodo, has allegedly killed his 13-year-old daughter in a case of child abuse, a whistle-blower has revealed.

The 13-year-old girl, identified as Rufaro Nyamangodo, reportedly passed away under suspicious circumstances in his father, Mr Nyamangondo’s care recently.

The report claims that Nyamangodo, who had a good job at a mine in Mozambique, has a history of abusive behaviour, particularly towards his own family, wife and children.

It is alleged that the whole community of Hauna are aware of his violent nature, which frightens many to report him to the authorities.

It is further alleged that he has been physically assaulting his entire family, from his wife and all his children and subsequently with a wire, leading to the death of his child, Rufaro.

Despite the severity of the allegations, it is reported that the local police have not taken any action against Amos, raising concerns about the safety of the remaining children and the community’s trust in law enforcement.

There are no comments from law enforcement nor reports of postmortem yet to be done to get to the truth of the cause of the death of Rufaro.

The whistle-blower’s account states that Rufaro was found dead after suffering from what Nyamangondo claimed were stomach pains.

However, the report suggests foul play, accusing Amos of fabricating the story to cover up his abusive actions.

The presence of Rufaro’s sisters, who are aware of the situation, further complicates the matter, as they have reportedly not been able to intervene effectively due to Amos’s threatening and violent behaviour.

Residents of Hauna Phase 2 have expressed their fear and concern, noting that many avoid visiting Amos’ house due to his known cruelty.

The report also highlights that Nyamangondo has consistently refused to release several children under his care to their mother, adding to the gravity of the situation.

Rufaro’s family has been left broken by her death.

Rufaro’s aunt, in a social media group commented:Mwana wasisi vangu veduweee ????Tirikurwadziwa semhuri Amos warwadzisa apedza shuwa kufonera Mai vemwana hanzi afa nemudumbu, Mwari ngavatirangirewo imbwa iyi yashungurudza vana for a long time”.

One woman commented on having once dated Nyamangondo when Rufaro had already been born and had never experienced physical violence while they were together but confirmed that he would sometimes get angry and they’d quarrel, but not to the extent of physical violence.

The community is now calling for immediate action to ensure the safety of the remaining children and to bring justice for the late Rufaro.

The lack of intervention by the authorities and child protection services has been met with dismay and frustration, with residents urging for a thorough investigation into the circumstances leading to Rufaro’s death and the alleged ongoing abuse.

This case underscores the critical need for effective child protection measures and the importance of community vigilance in reporting and preventing abuse.

The Hauna community mourns the loss of Rufaro and seeks assurance that such tragedies will not occur again.

The call for justice is growing louder, with many demanding that the perpetrator be held accountable for his actions and brought to justice.

According to UNICEF, “All children have the right to grow up in a safe environment free from violence, abuse and exploitation to develop their full potential.”

For Zimbabwe’s girls, December has been indeed the bloodiest month, with Rufaro being the second 13-year-old girl child to allegedly be murdered by a known male relation, in this case, her father.

Both Mr Nyamangondo and Hauna Police were yet to comment when publishing this story.

Africa’s Only Journalist Who Changed Own Name After Cheque Fraud Conviction Of His Best Friends

By A Correspondent | ZimEye | Journalist Hopewell Chin’ono has lashed out at journalists amidst escalating controversy over the origins of his wealth. Chin’ono, who initially claimed a £50,000 credit for a sports car in 1996 as the springboard for his property empire, has now shifted his narrative, leading to intense public and media scrutiny.

In a recent Facebook post, Chin’ono vehemently defended his success, stating that journalists asking questions over his untraceable figures, are jealous of him.

One of the scribes is his own former employer, Geoff Nyarota he has failed to supply the most basic answers since a 2021 interview published by Newsday.

Said Chin’ono in part: “But sadly, some rotten apples in my profession are so envious and bitter such that they create stories to justify why I made it, and why they didn’t.” This statement is a direct response to the growing doubts about his earlier account of receiving a £50,000 credit from an undisclosed UK institution or company in 1996, a detail crucial to understanding his rise in property ownership.

This credit, as per Chin’ono’s earlier statements, was pivotal in redirecting his focus from luxury to investment, influenced by advice from his mentor, Dr. Tendai Maboreke. However, Chin’ono’s recent assertion that his wealth actually stemmed from a mobile phone business a decade later starkly contradicts this narrative. The lack of transparency regarding the UK lender and the sudden shift in the story of his financial ascent has cast a shadow over his claims.

Chin’ono’s aggressive approach towards journalists and critics questioning the inconsistencies in his story raises further doubts. His characterization of these inquiries as driven by envy and bitterness, rather than addressing the substantive issues at hand, diverts attention from the need for clarity and factual accuracy.

The situation is further complicated by allegations of credit and cheque fraud, along with claims of misconduct dating back to his high school days. These unresolved issues, coupled with the recent contradictions in his wealth narrative, demand a deeper investigation into the true origins of Chin’ono’s assets and his professional conduct.

As the controversy continues to unfold, the public remains in search of concrete answers. The central question persists: What is the true source of Hopewell Chin’ono’s wealth, and how does it reconcile with his varying accounts over the last 29 years? His recent remarks on social media, while dismissive of his critics, have only amplified the calls for transparency and a thorough exploration of his financial history. READ THE FULL STORY HERE

Chinotimba’s Bedroom-Denial Monolized Into A Hit Song

Joseph Chinotimba’s Social Media Appeal Transformed into Hit Song by Producer Mono Mukundu

By Showbiz Reporter | ZimEye | In a surprising twist of events, the former Buhera South MP, Joseph Chinotimba, has become an unwitting music sensation. The saga began with false accusations alleging that Chinotimba’s car was stolen while he was at his girlfriend’s house. These rumors, which have since been proven baseless, led to a flurry of social media activity, including a video by Chinotimba himself, appealing to the public to dismiss these unfounded claims.

This video, initially intended to clear his name, caught the attention of the renowned music producer, Mono Mukundu.

This unexpected musical venture is not just a testament to Mukundu’s skill but also highlights the unpredictable nature of social media and public perception.

As the song gains traction, it serves as a stark reminder of how quickly narratives can shift and be reinterpreted in today’s digital age. What started as a defense against false accusations for Chinotimba has unexpectedly spiraled into a hit record, potentially turning a moment of personal anguish into a profitable venture for the producer, Mono Mukundu.

Chiwenga Points Gun At Drivers

By-Acting President Dr Constantino Chiwenga has directed the police to adopt stringent measures against motorists and public transporters who overspeed so that they exercise extra caution on the roads to minimise road traffic accidents.

He said this in the wake of a horror crash involving a bus, a haulage truck and a Mercedes Benz vehicle that killed five people along the Harare-Mutare highway on Wednesday.

Yesterday afternoon, a Mwayera bus veered off the road at the 42km peg along the Buhera-Murambinda Road before landing on its roof, leaving 18 passengers injured.

Police said the Harare-bound bus had 63 occupants.
The injured passengers were referred to Chivhu Hospital for medical attention while one passenger had been treated and discharged by late yesterday. Eighty-seven people have been killed and 424 injured in 1 194 road accidents recorded between December 15 and 26.

From January up to now, over 600 people have been killed in road accidents across the country, a development that requires drivers to take utmost care to save lives.

In a statement on Thursday, Chiwenga said: “Whilst efforts are being made to give education and awareness on traffic safety on our highways, all motorists and public transport operators are implored to always exercise a high degree of caution and care on the roads.
“Law enforcement agencies and responsible authorities, including the Zimbabwe Republic Police will ensure that stringent measures are taken to deal with errant drivers along major highways. Culprits will face the full wrath of the law.”

He urged passengers to contribute towards their safety and prevent drivers from speeding.

“As we count our losses and mourn the deceased (from the Harare-Mutare accident), it is my sincere hope that this will be a wake-up call and serve as an opportunity for all of us to fulfil a collective responsibility towards the safety of all travellers,” said Chiwenga.
A number of the accidents have been attributed to human error, especially overtaking errors, resulting in more head-on collisions being recorded.
Other vehicles are said to be unroadworthy resulting in accidents.
Following the high number of road accidents, some drivers have urged the Government to make the defensive driving course mandatory for all drivers to minimise accidents.
This comes amid reports that some drivers accelerate when they notice someone overtaking, instead of making way to prevent a head-on collision.
The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural development and the Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe have this year been providing road safety advice for the holiday season, focusing on prevention so that everyone drives safely.
Being a rainy season, drivers are advised to exercise extra caution on the roads as rain reduces visibility, makes roads slick and increases the risk of vehicles being washed away by flooded rivers.

The accident occurred at approximately 1:00 PM at the 42-kilometer peg, sending shockwaves through the local community.

“All injured passengers received prompt medical attention at Chivhu Hospital. Thankfully, only one passenger required treatment and has since been discharged.”

The 2023 festive season has recorded a high number of accidents involving buses.

A few days ago, an Inter Africa bus was involved in an accident along Harare Mutare highway resulting in the death of four people.

Chamisa Fires Up CCC Base With Vow of “No Shenanigans” in Upcoming Elections

By A Correspondent| Zimbabwe’s opposition leader, Nelson Chamisa, ignited his Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) base today with a fiery tweet promising a different approach to the upcoming elections and hinting at potential foul play from the ruling ZANU-PF party.

“THIS TIME WE WILL DO IT DIFFERENTLY,” Chamisa declared, punctuating his words with ellipses as if to emphasize the weight of his statement.

He challenged the legitimacy of ZANU-PF’s 2018 victory, questioning, “If they genuinely won in 2018, why would they bother about us whom they defeated?”

Further stoking the flames of discontent, Chamisa asserted, “We won in 2018,” a claim disputed by ZANU-PF and still the subject of ongoing legal challenges.

He bolstered this assertion with the hashtag #Godisinit, implying divine intervention on the CCC’s side.

The tweet then took a defiant turn, with Chamisa declaring, “This explains why we daily occupy their minds, hearts and lips rent-free!”

This statement could be interpreted as a declaration of the CCC’s growing influence and psychological hold over the ruling party.

It also carries a subtle element of intimidation, suggesting that ZANU-PF’s fear of the CCC is a testament to their strength.

Chamisa issued a stark warning for the upcoming elections: “#Thistime we won’t allow any games, alterations or shenanigans!” This raises concerns about potential electoral malpractices by ZANU-PF, echoing past accusations of rigging and voter intimidation.

The party claims that it embraced citizen-driven leadership, empowering local voices. It also claims that it achieved victories in local councils and demonstrated resilience despite challenges. The party expressed gratitude to the diaspora community and received global acknowledgement of injustice. They aim to address Zimbabwe’s legitimacy crisis in 2024 as they continue their journey towards a “New Great Zimbabwe”, fueled by hope and reflecting the dreams of its people. We present the statement below:

Celebrating 2023: A Journey of Defiance, Unity, and Hope

1) President Nelson Chamisa’s Remarkable Journey: From road to road, village to village, and corner to corner, President @nelsonchamisa’s journey spanned over 10,000km, stirring the spirits of the people with his unwavering resolve. Through more than 100 meetings and rallies, his tireless efforts galvanized a movement that defied odds and stood undeterred in the face of adversity.

2) People-Powered Movement: United in purpose, change champions across the nation amplified the call for a New Great Zimbabwe, igniting a groundswell of support that transcended boundaries and embraced the collective dreams of the masses. This groundswell reshaped the narrative, advocating for a Zimbabwe that uplifts all, not just a select few.

3) Citizen-Centric Leadership: Embracing an inclusive approach, a new era of citizen-driven candidate selection took root, empowering the voices of the local people. Together, we ushered in a wave of young, fresh, citizen-focused leaders, standing tall against the regime’s entrenched elite.

4) People’s Triumph: Overcoming formidable hurdles, we clinched the majority of local councils, emerging victorious in an astounding 33 out of 34 urban local authorities. Moreover, the citizenry’s unwavering strength signaled an indomitable force, especially demonstrated by standing and waiting in queues to cast votes for change—a testament to the people’s ownership of this movement.

5) Resilience Against Adversity: Despite daunting challenges, our resolute spirit thwarted attempts to secure a two-thirds majority in the National Assembly. Triumphs in remote areas like Zvimba East and Seke stood as beacons of hope in our crusade for an equitable Zimbabwe.

6) Unveiling Truth: The integrity of our election coalition, bolstered by collaborative efforts, exposed the facade of counterfeit results and uncovered the true voice of the people. The failure to disclose authentic results, depicting President Chamisa’s lead, laid bare the deceit.

We understand your desire to return home, and we strive to create changed circumstances around human rights, economic development, and equal opportunities for all.

Mnangagwa’s Lawyer Gives Tshabangu Free Anti-Chamisa Services

By James Gwati- Prominent Harare lawyer Lewis Uriri had CCC activist Sengezo Tshabangu free legal services when the party approached the courts to challenge his authority to recall its Members of Parliament and Councillors.

Uriri was President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s lawyer at the Constitutional Court (ConCourt) against a petition filed by then MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa, who was seeking to overturn the ZANU PF leader’s victory in the 30 July 2018 election.

Speaking during the Asakhe Online program, The Breakfast Club recently, Tshabangu, who claims to be CCC’s interim secretary-general, said Uriri understood his financial predicament and agreed to offer his initial legal services free of charge.

Tshabangu said once Uriri got “the ball rolling”, some members of the business community then started to pour cash towards his legal costs. CITE quoted Tshabangu as saying:

It is difficult for us to meet our litigation costs. Our legal team is headed by Advocate Uriri, one of the best lawyers to ever come out of Zimbabwe. He is very expensive.

We sat down with him and he said he understood where I was coming from. He said he would get the ball rolling so that the people in general would know what was going on and understand my cause. He did the first appearance free of charge.

After that, we started having people coming in to help us meet our legal costs. Some are from the business communities, people with huge amounts of money.

They understood our cause and they gave us money to channel to our legal needs. We are accounting for each cent of that money.

Tshabangu was initially a member of the MDC and was part of the group that split from the MDC led by Morgan Tsvangirai in 2014 to form the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), which was led by Tendai Biti, with Kucaca Phulu as the deputy.

Later, he rejoined the mainstream MDC Alliance when the alliance was formed ahead of the 2018 harmonised elections.

Tshabangu attended meetings where the MDC Alliance rebranded itself as CCC.

In October 2023, Tshabangu recalled 15 parliamentarians and 17 councillors, including the mayor of Masvingo, and the chairperson of the Epworth Local Board citing that they were no longer party members.

Subsequently, he recalled more CCC MPs and Councillors countrywide on the pretext they had ceased being members of the party.

Why Is Hopewell Chin’ono Insulting Auditors Simply Asking Name Of His UK Financier of The Unreaceable Loan?

Top 5 Bus Killers In 2023… Inter Africa, CAG Tops The List

2023 has etched itself into Zimbabwe’s memory as a year of profound grief for countless families across the nation.

Tragic bus accidents took lives and limbs, leaving trails of sorrow and shattered dreams on the country’s highways.

Against this backdrop, ZimEye delves into the top five bus companies responsible for the most fatalities and injuries this year.

1. Inter Africa/Mukumba Brothers: Dominating the grim statistic is Inter Africa/Mukumba Brothers. Speeding, driver fatigue, and questionable vehicle maintenance emerged as recurring themes in reports associated with their accidents.

In *July, a Mukumba Brothers bus collided with a haulage truck near Chegutu, claiming 12 lives and injuring 27. Just *two months later, another horrific crash involving one of their buses near Kwekwe took 10 lives and left 35 passengers wounded. These incidents, alongside several others throughout the year, solidified Inter Africa/Mukumba Brothers’ place at the forefront of this year’s bus tragedy.

2. CAG: Close behind comes CAG, whose buses were implicated in several devastating accidents throughout 2023.

In *February, a CAG bus overturned near Kadoma, leaving 8 passengers dead and 20 injured. The cause of the accident was attributed to a burst tire, raising concerns about the company’s vehicle maintenance practices. A month later, *another CAG bus collided with a haulage truck near Gweru, resulting in 7 fatalities and 15 injuries. These and other incidents solidified CAG’s position among the top contributors to Zimbabwe’s road carnage in 2023.

3. Rimbi Tours: Following closely behind is Rimbi Tours, whose buses were involved in several fatal accidents this year.

In *April, a Rimbi Tours bus crashed near Mutare, killing 6 passengers and injuring 18. Reports suggested the driver had fallen asleep at the wheel. *June saw another Rimbi Tours bus overturned near Masvingo, leaving 5 passengers dead and 12 injured.

These incidents, along with others, underscore the need for stricter safety measures and driver oversight within the company.

Together with Zebra Kiss, Rimbi Tours had its operating license suspended after their drivers recklessly caused a fatal accident while racing with passengers on board.

4. Zebra Kiss: Known for its sleek buses and flashy branding, Zebra Kiss also faces scrutiny after a series of accidents marred its 2023.

In *May, a Zebra Kiss bus collided with a commuter omnibus near Harare, leading to four fatalities and 10 injuries. *August saw another Zebra Kiss bus overturned on the Beitbridge-Bulawayo highway, resulting in three deaths and eight injuries.

These accidents, while seemingly less frequent than those of top contenders, raise concerns about safety practices within the company’s operations.

5. Stallion Cruise: Rounding out the list is Stallion Cruise, whose buses were involved in several accidents over the past year.

In *March, a Stallion Cruise bus collided with a private vehicle near Chinhoyi, taking 3 lives and injuring 9. *October saw another Stallion Cruise bus crash near Bulawayo, leaving 2 passengers dead and 5 injured. While the numbers involved may appear lower than other entries, these incidents highlight the need for improved safety standards within the company’s fleet.

****Trip Trans***

Though out of the top five, Trip Trans deserves mention as it also recorded a fair share of accidents including the one that claimed the life of late socialite Genius Kadungure’s sister Julie who was travelling from Malawi. In that accident nine other people lost lives. Five days earlier, another Trip Trans bus was engulfed in flames shortly after Makuti, but fortunately, no casualties were reported.

Earlier in February, another Trip Trans bus travelling from Chimanimani to Mutare was involved in an accident that claimed the life of an infant while 16 others were injured.

A Call for Change:

2023’s grim statistics paint a disturbing picture of Zimbabwe’s bus industry. It’s not just about these five companies; the entire industry needs a drastic overhaul. Stringent safety regulations, rigorous driver training, and regular vehicle inspections are crucial steps towards preventing further tragedies.

As we mourn the lives lost and grapple with the lasting scars of these accidents, let 2023 be a stark reminder. We must demand better, implement change, and ensure that our roads become arteries of life, not channels of sorrow.

Mafume Inspires His Bulawayo Counterpart David Coltart

By A Correspondent| In a notable display of cross-city inspiration, newly elected Mayor of the City of Harare, Councilor Jacob Mafume, has already left an indelible mark on his Bulawayo counterpart, Mayor David Coltart.

The impact was revealed when Coltart openly acknowledged drawing inspiration from Mafume’s recently shared end-of-year report.

The City of Harare’s official Twitter account shared a snapshot of Mafume presenting the city’s comprehensive end-of-year report.

Responding to the post, Mayor Coltart expressed his admiration, stating, “Well done. This will inspire me to do likewise next year.”

The exchange between the two mayors underscores the collaborative spirit emerging among Zimbabwe’s municipal leaders.

Coltart, who has energetically commenced his responsibilities as the Mayor of the City of Bulawayo, seems poised to replicate the transparency and diligence demonstrated by Mayor Mafume in the coming year.

This cross-pollination of ideas and practices between the mayors reflects a positive trend in Zimbabwean local governance, as leaders from different cities find inspiration in each other’s initiatives.

It remains to be seen how this exchange of ideas will contribute to the continued development and improvement of municipal governance in both Harare and Bulawayo.

Man Killed Over Snooker Argument

In a tragic incident on Christmas Day, a 21-year-old man was shot and killed at a local nightclub following a dispute over a missing token during a game of snooker.

Police have now apprehended the suspect responsible for the shooting, identified as Takeknowledge Mthombeni, aged 39. Additionally, the police have successfully recovered the firearm used in the crime.

The arrest follows a recent statement by the police, announcing their investigation into the murder of Wilson Malunga, who was fatally shot by an unknown assailant in Filabusi around 1:30 am.

According to the preliminary investigation, the suspect and the victim were engaged in a heated argument at the nightclub after the victim realized his token was missing. Allegedly, Mthombeni left the premises and returned with a pistol from his parked Toyota Fun Cargo vehicle. Without warning, he fired a single shot at Malunga’s head before hastily fleeing the scene.

Zimbabwean Man Arrested In Limpopo While Driving A Stolen Vehicle

Police in Mpumalanga have arrested a 38-year-old Zimbabwean national during an intelligence-driven operation where a stolen Toyota RAV4 vehicle was recovered.

The operation was carried out on Sunday evening, according to Mpumalanga provincial police spokesperson, Brigadier Selvy Mohlala.

“A report indicates that the information regarding a suspicious vehicle was provided by the national crime intelligence structure of the SA Police Service, and the team to carry out the operation consisted of members from Middelburg flying squad, Sekhukhune flying squad, Tracker Connect, Modimolle flying squad, and Roedtan SAPS,” said Mohlala.

The details of the suspicious vehicle were then followed up, leading the team to N11 Road at Roedtan area in Limpopo, where a green Toyota RAV4 with one occupant was intercepted.

“It is said that the said car was coming from R25 Road in Bronkhorstspruit, and it was fitted with Gauteng registration number plates,” said Mohlala.

Bleak Literary Landscape For Zimbabwe As Weaver Press Shuts Down

Harare, Zimbabwe – In 2006, a small but supportive publisher helped Zimbabwean author Valerie Tagwira make the transition from doctor to published author, picking up her first novel, The Uncertainty of Hope.

Then based in the United Kingdom, Tagwira had sent out her manuscript to UK and Australian publishers and received 13 rejections. Two years after it was published by Weaver Press, it won one of Zimbabwe’s National Arts Merit Awards, the country’s highest recognition in arts and culture.

Today, she remains grateful to that publisher, Weaver Press.

“When nobody else would, Weaver Press gave a voice to the stories that I felt compelled to tell as a novice writer,” Tagwira told Al Jazeera, paying tribute to Irene Staunton, the publishing house’s publisher and editor. “Irene’s patience and expertise as an editor inspired me and brought to fruition my long-held dream of becoming a published writer.”

But now, after a quarter of a century of operation, the Harare-based independent publisher will close its doors at the end of this year, signalling a bleaker literary landscape for the southern African nation.

Weaver Press is based in Emerald Hill in northern Harare, a previously whites-only suburb in the colonial era, hardly an obvious setting for the country’s most vibrant and diverse publishing house.

But since 1998 when it was co-founded by Staunton and her husband Murray McCartney who has served as its director, it has hoisted the voices of up to 80 fiction and over 100 nonfiction writers from Zimbabwe. The house has had interns over the years and, for a short while, a fully-fledged employee, but has been mostly run by the duo.

On December 7, a 25th-anniversary gathering brought together some of its authors and the country’s literary luminaries – authors Shimmer Chinodya, Petina Gappah, and Chiedza Musengezi; the poet and retired university lecturer Musaemura Zimunya; former education minister and memoirist Fay Chung; and retired priest and writer David Harold-Barry.

The birthday bash was also a funeral even if that was left unsaid at the gathering.

“Weaver Press will go dormant at the end of the year,” Staunton said in an interview at their home-cum-office, using a euphemism for the imminent shutdown.

Of the anomaly of a death notice at a birthday party, her husband added: “It seems a little strange but it’s true. Much has changed over the years. We aren’t able to survive just from book sales…we get more revenue from freelance editing work. And that doesn’t need to be Weaver Press.”

When the husband-and-wife team founded Weaver Press, the country was about to go into a sociopolitical, and economic, meltdown triggered in part by former ruler Robert Mugabe’s decision to seize white-owned farms.

A hyperinflationary environment ensued, making it impossible for most businesses, let alone a publishing house, to survive. They made do by working on a project-by-project basis. “For the first few years we were more like an NGO than a publisher in that we tried to find funding for projects to get us off the ground because we ourselves didn’t have any capital except our time,” explained Staunton, whose own publishing career goes back some four decades.

Staunton, perhaps Zimbabwe’s foremost editor, was editor and co-founder of Baobab Books, the now-defunct publisher of prizewinning works by the late novelists Yvonne Vera and Chenjerai Hove, and the posthumous works of legendary writer Dambudzo Marechera.

“In the last twenty years,” said Staunton, “the publishing scene has changed dramatically. Nowadays a great many people are self-publishing, and our best writers are being published outside the country for obvious reasons. They get much better advances, royalties, promotion, [and] they achieve an international reputation. If I was them, I would just do the same.”

In the last decade, a new crop of Zimbabwean writers has emerged, more popular abroad than at home. Among that cohort is Noviolet Bulawayo whose two novels Glory and We Need New Names, were both shortlisted for the Booker Prize. Weaver Press first published Bulawayo’s Caine Prize-winning story that morphed into We Need New Names.

The publishing and reading culture of the 1980s, which partly helped Zimbabwe earn the bragging rights to being one of Africa’s most educated nations, has long since ended: Most schools don’t have libraries, less and less students are taking literature as a subject in schools, while government subsidies that made it possible for most schools to buy textbooks and novels have long vanished. Added to that, illegal photocopying of books has hit pandemic proportions in the country, making it impossible to have a viable publishing industry.

Staunton recalled that when she was at Baobab Books, in the 1990s, if one of their titles was a set book on the school curriculum, they could sell as many as 250,000 books. By way of comparison, when Weaver Press author Shimmer Chinodya’s novel Tale of Tamari was once on the school syllabus between 2018 and 2022, it took them four years to sell just 2000 copies.

Yet it’s not only the challenging political climate and economic situation – whose nadir was inflation rates of 80 billion percent – made it impossible for them to continue. And that is a point McCartney conceded: “Weaver Press has never been particularly good at marketing and publicity. I will concede that. That’s not our strength.”

It was a point echoed by South Africa-based Zimbabwean writer Farai Mudzingwa, whose short fiction was first published by Weaver Press in 2014 and who told Al Jazeera that he remains grateful for the part the publishing house has played in his writing career.

“Weaver Press appeared resolute on moribund local print publishing within Zimbabwe, with no financial incentive for the writers, but my focus was set on international sales, beyond Zimbabwe and the continent, and with an eye on foreign language translation, film, audio and other extended rights and formats,” he said.

Mudzingwa’s debut novel Avenues by Train has just come out through the Nigerian publisher Bibi Bakare-Yusuf’s company, Cassava Republic Press.

Whatever the publishing couple’s faults, Weaver Press’s exemplary role in shaping Zimbabwe’s 21st-century publishing landscape has been undeniable.

Some of their notable publications include teacher-politician Fay Chung’s important war memoir Re-Living the Second Chimurenga, the late war veteran Dzinashe Machingura’s authoritative autobiography Memories of a Freedom Fighter and numerous short story collections.

Yvonne Vera’s novel, The Stone Virgins, won the 2002 Macmillan Writers’ Prize for Africa. Brian Chikwava’s short story, Seventh Street Alchemy, winner of the Caine Prize for African Writing in 2004, first came out in a Weaver short story collection. Two of the stories in Petina Gappah’s 2009 Guardian First Book Award-winning collection, An Elegy for Easterly, were also first published in Weaver short story anthologies.

Meanwhile, Tagwira has since relocated to neighbouring Namibia, where she works as an obstetrician-gynecologist.

With Weaver Press now dormant, chances are that the next novel by Tagwira who published two under them, will be published in South Africa. It is a win for that country and will probably bring financial reward to Tagwira, but is surely a loss for Zimbabwe’s publishing culture.

Urgent Evacuation Advisory as Harare Faces Unprecedented Flood Threat

The City of Harare has issued an emergency evacuation notice to residents residing in low-lying areas, urging them to abandon their homes immediately to escape the imminent danger of being swept away by torrential rains. This urgent directive comes in the wake of relentless downpours that have pounded the city and various regions across the country, ending a prolonged dry spell.

Harare, grappling with a poor drainage system, has seen the situation exacerbated, rendering several roads impassable and allowing water to infiltrate homes, wreaking havoc on electrical gadgets. The gravity of the situation prompted Mayor Councillor Jacob Mafume to make a direct plea to residents in vulnerable areas such as Budiriro Paddocks and Kuwadzana Paddocks, emphasizing the urgency of the evacuation as massive floods are predicted.

Tragically, last week witnessed the loss of two lives in Highfield and Budiriro. In a heartbreaking incident, a six-year-old boy was swept away by floods in Budiriro, with his lifeless body discovered five kilometers away just days ago. The City of Harare, in its statement, underscores the perilous nature of the current weather conditions.

As of the latest reports, there are no additional casualties, but the situation remains critical. Harare’s main routes, including those to Bulawayo and Beitbridge, have become treacherous, with persistent heavy rains washing away several detours. Stranded vehicles, including heavy trucks, paint a bleak picture of the challenges faced by those navigating the perilous road conditions.

A chilling account comes from a trucker en route to South Africa, describing the detours on the incomplete sections of the Harare-Beitbridge Highway as increasingly hazardous. Drivers face the dual threat of reduced speed leaving them vulnerable to theft and the looming danger of accidents due to the deteriorating road conditions.

Last week’s rains wreaked havoc, causing widespread devastation and leaving nearly 15 houses in Budiriro 4 submerged. The police reported numerous individuals marooned by floodwaters, subsequently rescued by the ZRP Sub-Aqua Unit.

The Meteorological Services Department’s recent warning of continued heavy rains accompanied by violent storms until Sunday heightens the urgency of the evacuation. This crisis follows a grim incident in October, where four children from a single family perished after their hut in Wadzenenga village, under Chief Nyashanu in Buhera, Manicaland province, was struck by lightning.

‘Rotten Apples Envious Of My Wealth!’ Hopewell Chin’ono Insults Journalists Inquiring Over His Untraceable Money

Former MDC Alliance Youth Leader Blocked ?

Former MDC Alliance youth leader Obey Tererai Sithole was left infuriated after being blocked from following the Citizens Coalition for Change.

Sithole has crossed path with pro-Chamisa CCC members after exonerating the now Harare Mayor Jacob Mafume who was being accused of working with Zanu PF and Tshabangu.

Mafume was elected Harare Mayor despite CCC preferring one Elvis Ruzani who polled 15 votes to the winner’s 22.

Posting on X, Sithole had this to say:

CCC is currently going through a turbulent phase following a spate of recalls spearheaded by self-styled Interim Secretary General Sengezo Tshabangu.

Tshabangu has recalled CCC legislators and councillors in a move that has benefitted Zanu PF which gained the much needed two thirds majority.

Gokwe’s Sasami Bridge Ripped Apart By Small Flood

By A Correspondent | In an unexpected turn of events, the Sasami Bridge, a critical connector on the route from Nemangwe to Nembudzia, has been ripped apart by a small yet powerful flood. This catastrophic incident has rendered the entire bridge worthless, causing significant disruptions and shockwaves across the region.

Early reports indicate that the bridge, which has been a longstanding route for locals and a vital link for transportation, could not withstand the sudden surge of water brought on by the flood. Eyewitnesses describe a dramatic scene where the central part of the bridge was violently torn away, leaving a gaping void in what was once a reliable passage.

Sasami Bridge collapse

Authorities are currently assessing the damage and investigating the factors that led to this failure. Preliminary findings suggest that the bridge, though seemingly robust, was vulnerable to the specific hydraulic pressures exerted by the flood. There is growing concern about the potential for similar occurrences in other infrastructures if they are not designed or maintained with such natural calamities in mind.

The collapse of the Sasami Bridge has had immediate repercussions, with traffic being rerouted and local communities facing significant travel challenges. Emergency response teams have been deployed to ensure public safety and to start the process of reconstruction planning.

This event serves as a stark reminder of the power of nature and the need for resilient infrastructure, especially in regions prone to flooding. The loss of the Sasami Bridge is not just a physical one; it symbolizes the disruption of daily life and connectivity for many. As recovery efforts begin, there is a strong call for a renewed focus on building and maintaining bridges that can withstand the challenges posed by changing environmental conditions.

Bridge Construction

When a bridge is washed away or severely damaged by a small stream of water, it often comes as a surprise. However, several factors can contribute to this phenomenon, underscoring the importance of understanding the principles of robust bridge construction, especially in flood-prone areas.

### Factors Leading to Bridge Failure:

1. **Hydraulic Pressure:** Water flow exerts significant pressure on bridge structures. Even a small stream can become forceful during heavy rain, exerting pressure that exceeds the bridge’s design limits.

2. **Scouring:** This is the process where fast-moving water removes sediment from around bridge abutments or foundations, undermining the structural integrity. Scour can happen gradually or suddenly during intense flooding.

3. **Debris Accumulation:** Floating debris during floods can accumulate against the bridge, increasing the load and obstructing water flow, thereby enhancing pressure on the structure.

4. **Material and Design Flaws:** Bridges not designed for flood conditions or those made with substandard materials are more susceptible to damage.

5. **Lack of Maintenance:** Regular maintenance is crucial. Neglect can lead to weakened structures, making them vulnerable during floods.

### Principles for Constructing Strong Bridges:

1. **Hydrological Analysis:** Understanding the water flow, potential for flooding, and historical data of the area helps in designing a bridge that can withstand extreme conditions.

2. **Robust Design:** Using flood-resistant materials and designs. For instance, arches and suspension bridges offer better resistance than flat bridges.

3. **Elevated Construction:** Building the bridge high enough above the highest recorded water level to prevent overtopping during floods.

4. **Scour Countermeasures:** Designing foundations deep enough to resist scouring, or using protective materials like rock riprap around abutments and piers.

5. **Flexible, Yet Sturdy Construction:** The bridge should be flexible enough to absorb and dissipate energy without breaking, but sturdy enough to resist the forces exerted by water and debris.

6. **Debris Flow Consideration:** Designing the bridge to allow easy passage of debris during floods, reducing the risk of blockages.

7. **Regular Inspections and Maintenance:** To identify and repair any wear and tear or weaknesses before they become serious.

By adhering to these principles, engineers can design bridges that are more resilient in the face of flooding, ensuring the safety and reliability of these vital structures.

Mnangagwa Honours Nikita Mangena 40 Years After Killing Own Relatives

In a profound acknowledgment of history, Zimbabwe’s Acting President Dr. Constantino Chiwenga has announced the government’s commitment to honor the late ZIPRA hero, General Alfred Rodgers Nikita Mangena. This announcement comes 45 years after Gen. Mangena’s death and amid the somber reflections on the Gukurahundi period during which approximately 30,000 of his supporters were reportedly killed by the Fifth Brigade.

General Mangena, a pivotal figure in Zimbabwe’s struggle for independence, tragically lost his life in 1978 to a landmine explosion. His death was a significant blow to the liberation movement, particularly in the context of the intertwined histories of ZIPRA and ZANLA forces, both instrumental in the fight against colonial rule.

The commitment to honor Gen. Mangena echoes the ongoing efforts to preserve the legacy of another national hero, General Josiah Magama Tongogara, who died a year after Mangena in 1979. Both generals led their respective armies with valor and determination, contributing immensely to Zimbabwe’s eventual independence in 1980.

Acting President Chiwenga, in a recent interview following the commemoration of General Tongogara’s life, emphasized the importance of ensuring that the contributions of both generals are not merely relegated to historical footnotes. The government’s plans include a more substantial commemoration of General Mangena’s role in the nation’s history, beyond the naming of the Zimbabwe National Defence University in his honor.

“There is a need to conscientize the younger generation about our revolutionary past,” said Acting President Chiwenga. “We cannot let the towering figures of our liberation, like General Mangena, be forgotten. Their sacrifices and leadership were instrumental in our fight against colonial subjugation.”

The announcement is also seen as a move to reconcile the painful memories of the Gukurahundi period, a time of intense conflict and suffering. By honoring Gen. Mangena, the government acknowledges the complexities of Zimbabwe’s history and the need to remember all who contributed to its independence.

General Mangena, who joined the liberation struggle in the 1960s and received military training in Algeria in 1963, was a key proponent of unity between the ZANLA and ZIPRA forces. His leadership and vision continued to influence the struggle even after his death, with his deputy, General Lookout Masuku, taking over the leadership of ZIPRA forces.

As Zimbabwe reflects on its past and looks to the future, the honoring of General Mangena symbolizes a step towards acknowledging the multifaceted nature of its history and the importance of remembering all those who fought for the country’s freedom.- state media

Varakashi Celebrate Mnangagwa Seizure Of SADC Post

By A Correspondent

A Zanu PF Varakashi platform has announced that Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa will be the SADC chairperson with effect from January 1 2024.

Analysts are sceptical of Mr Mnangagwa’s appointment saying it will all but endorse the Zanu PF leader who stands accused of stealing the August 23 polls.

Zanu PF’s Team Varakashi boasted on Thursday :

“President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa will be SADC chair starting 1 January, our President is ready to take up the post and take the regional bloc to another level.”

There are more questions than answers as observers wonder whether Mr Mnangagwa will then nail himself or he will take advantage of the said appointment to spruce up his battered political image.

There is no doubt that Varakashi are desperate to please their handlers by portraying Mr Mnangagwa as a political saint.

Is This Jah Prayzah Peeping Into A Woman’s Underwear On Stage?

By Showbiz Reporter | Is this Jah Prayzah peeping into a woman’s black underwear on stage? Even if not him, he has a whole motion music video released of more than one woman flashing underwear all over.

The singer has degenerated from his powerful Tsviriyo days, to serial nudity, in ways that have caused a stir in the community.

“Mukoma @jahprayzah, according to my humble opinion, i think you can always do better than this, why would you open someone’s pants in public ?

-what will your children think ?
-what about your wife ?
-Your relatives ?

You are a whole married man , Do better or i will block you,” wrote one Jethro on X, formerly Twitter.

the contentious picture, used to symbolise Jha Prayzah’s song video

Examining Jah Prayzah’s “Walletically” within the context of creating a culturally rich song production unveils a complex interplay of elements. The song’s opening lyrics, “If it was me the one with money, I would be a precious fruit, and be walletically,” sets the stage for a narrative centered around wealth. However, a closer analysis reveals potential pitfalls in aligning with the criteria of cultural richness.

1. Cultural Narrative:
While Jah Prayzah expresses aspirations tied to financial success, the lyrical content lacks depth in representing a broader cultural narrative. A culturally rich song often delves into traditions, values, or societal reflections, but “Walletically” primarily revolves around individual financial pursuits without broader cultural context.

2. Imagery and Visual Representation:
The divergence in the video’s portrayal of near-naked women raises questions about the alignment with Zimbabwean cultural norms. The juxtaposition of the song’s theme and the visual representation in the video introduces a discordant element that might be perceived as contradictory to cultural sensitivity.

3. Musical Fusion and Innovation:
Musically, Jah Prayzah has often excelled in fusing traditional and contemporary sounds. However, the focus on wealth in “Walletically” shifts attention away from the potential for a diverse musical fusion that incorporates a broader range of cultural elements.

4. Collaborations and Diversity:
The song’s lyrics do not indicate collaboration with artists offering diverse cultural perspectives. A more inclusive approach, bringing in voices from different cultural facets, could have added layers to the production, fostering a richer representation of Zimbabwe’s cultural diversity.

5. Social Commentary:
While the song touches on financial themes, it lacks a deeper exploration of societal or cultural issues. A culturally rich song often serves as a platform for commentary on social dynamics, but “Walletically” leans more towards individual desires rather than societal reflections.

In conclusion, Jah Prayzah’s “Walletically” falls short in certain aspects crucial to a culturally rich song production. The focus on personal wealth overshadows broader cultural narratives, and the visual representation in the video introduces elements that may be at odds with cultural norms. For a more comprehensive cultural richness, a song should aim for a harmonious blend of lyrical depth, musical diversity, inclusive collaborations, and a thoughtful exploration of societal and cultural nuances.

Harare Goes Under Water

Harare Struggles as Flash Flooding Reveals Critical Infrastructure Gaps**

In a dire situation that has tested Harare’s drainage system, flash flooding has left 59 households in Budiriro 5B Extension and Kuwadzana paddocks area uninhabitable. The Marimba River, swollen by ongoing rains, has wreaked havoc in the western half of Harare, exposing a critical vulnerability in the city’s ability to protect its residents.

One Budiriro house was extensively damaged, and numerous families have lost essential belongings, including food, utensils, blankets, furniture, and clothes due to the severe flooding. Roads leading in and out of Budiriro are submerged, compelling residents to navigate through water, prompting the evacuation of affected individuals to camps for safety.

This crisis follows the tragic death of a six-year-old girl swept away by the Marimba River just a week prior. The deteriorating situation has ignited frustration among residents, with Mr Pasipanodya Nyamayaro, a representative, blaming the Harare City Council for failing to address the recurring flooding issue.

Residents are now calling for the allocation of new, flood-resistant land to avoid yearly displacement. The City Council cites resource limitations as the reason for their inaction. Seeking solutions, residents have enlisted independent engineers, considering civil engineering projects to divert the river’s flow.

The flood crisis reflects a setback to the 1960s, exposing a regression in the country’s ability to handle natural disasters. The plea for government intervention and long-term solutions is urgent as the community grapples with the impact of continuous flooding.

Harare City Council’s response has been criticized, with appeals for funds to address the critical drainage and infrastructure needs falling on deaf ears. Residents are not only facing material losses but also the heartbreaking reality of losing lives annually.

In a statement, Mr Gabriel Masvora, Local Government and Public Works Ministry communications director, acknowledged the extensive damage caused by the flash floods. Evacuation centers have been set up, and relief efforts are underway, but the scale of the crisis demands a comprehensive, strategic approach.

As the affected households await assistance, the city’s residents are left questioning the city’s preparedness for such disasters and highlighting the erosion of civilization in the face of inadequate infrastructure. The call for urgent government intervention and allocation of resources is paramount to prevent further loss of lives and property.

Tshabangu’s Handler Exposed

Dear Editor

This is my opinion on the history of some of the people we think are fighting for democracy, yet the state plants them to destroy the opposition from within.

  1. In 2002, Welshman Ncube and Renson Gasela introduced Tsvangirai to Ari Ben-Menashe of Dickens and Madson, a relationship that resulted in Tsvangirai facing treason charges. State accused Morgan of discussing Mugabe assassination in a meeting. Welshman and Gasela were acquitted early in the trial.

The notorious Menashe later admitted to try to frame Tsvangirai. Welshman simply wanted Tsvangirai hanged.

  1. In 2005, President Tsvangirai fought hard to stop re-introduction of Senate. Unfortunately his deploys in parliament led by Welshman Ncube mysteriously vanished to pave way for senate vote to win by one Vote. They betrayed Morgan.
  2. In 2005, Welshman Ncube engineered a board room Coup that saw him walk away with MDC monies and properties except Harvest House.
  3. In 2006, after the Split, Zanu PF’s Patrick Chinamasa, the then acting finance Minister deliberately released political parties finance money to Welshman Ncube.
  4. In 2008, when ZANU PF was on the verge of defeat, Welshman Ncube spearheaded the Vote Simba Makoni for President campaign. He decampaigned Morgan Tsvangirai resulting in a bloody re-run that saw many MDCT Supporters murdered.
  5. In 2013, he saved ZANU PF from defeat. Welshman Ncube avoided a Grand Coalition that could have galvanised the pro-democracy movement and unseat Mugabe. He opted to form his coalition with Dabengwa to sway the Matebeleland vote.

Dabengwa confessed that he supported Simba Makoni to split the vote and deny Tsvangirai an outright win. They plotted together with Welshman Ncube.

  1. In 2023, boom Ncube-Biti-Tshabangu coalition and the destruction of CCC to pave way for ZANU PF bid for Two-Third majority to amend constitution and allow Mnangagwa a third term. Zimbabweans are still suffering and will continue to suffer until we make a concrete decision on these remnants.
