Sikhala Blows 100 Kisses Of Love To Zim Friends

14 December 2023

Dear Zimbabwean and Worldwide Friends

My dearest friends, today marks exactly one and half years, that is, the full 18 months under persecution, incarceration in a meter by two and half meters solitary confinement in Chikurubi Maximum Security Prison by the regime in Zimbabwe since my arrest on the 14th of June 2023. During this period hot weather and electricity blackouts in the dark solitary dungeon where you can hold the thick of darkness, I wake up during the middle of the night, the room is fully flooded with my sweat, mosquitos having completed feasting breakfast, lunch and supper from my bare body.

I taught myself that decency is only for free. I am under repression and I must conquer the mental motives of my persecutors. What must be known my dearest friends is that there is no amount of suffering that I have not gone through in my life. I slept on an empty stomach days to no end, but was never tempted to steal from anyone all my life. I, and my late parents labored in other people’s fields for school fees, food and clothing. Railway stations and bus terminuses became my shelter in search of a better life. I used thatched slums built of poles as accommodation going to school. I used to travel 46 Kilometers daily to and from school, living in Zaka, walking round Siya Dam to Mazunguye Secondary School in Bikita.

Crossing paths with hippopotamus from Siya Dam and Leopard harbored in the mountains separating Zaka and Bikita during dark hours coming from school. There is no difficult situation insurmountable to me. I am a typical field Negro. This must inform everyone about the comfort and satisfaction I get by living among the poor people. We share our poverty together. That is why I am passionately prepared to die for the poor and the downtrodden.

They deserve complete protection and shelter from those who wield power. I lived the experience and the new experience I am going through has strengthened me. I have witnessed some becoming mentally unstable, after few weeks of solitary confinement where I am currently detained. All this because I was the lawyer to the family of the late Moreblessing Ali, a poor woman who was gruesomely and callously murdered.

Few days ago I saw her in her dream flying like an angel in white garments coming where I was standing with some people in my company. I asked those who were with me in that dream, whether the person who was flying to us was not Moreblessing Ali. They told me that it was truly her. I further asked them, why she was not walking but flying in wings. I can’t share more of what she said to me after she landed where we were standing.

It is now eleven days from Christmas, and 18days from New Year. I wish all of you my dearest Zimbabwean and Worldwide Friends a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. For me, it is the 2nd year running having my Christmas and New Year under repressive incarceration. It is the second year running when my wife and children will have their Christmas and New Year without their Father. I will celebrate mine in solitary dungeon.

It’s sad that nation is now bereft of moral leaders since the bewitching of Arch Bishop Pius Ncube Mercenarism has crippled inn. They lined up for dirty cars and dirty money from the oppressor, deforming the name of God. They can’t speak a word on the face of gross injustice being perpetrate against me.

Hundred kisses of love my dearest Zimbabwean and Worldwide Friends. I Love you all. Stop not praying for me and Zimbabwe.
Enjoy your Christmas and New Year.

Shocking Corpse Mix-Up Unveiled in Gweru: Families Bury Wrong Bodies

In a confusing turn of events, a Gweru family mourned and buried the wrong body, only to unravel the unsettling mistake during a somber body viewing. The distressing mix-up involved the remains of Takudzwa Chipadza and Courage Sibanda, two individuals who met untimely deaths in separate incidents at Mkoba 14 and 16 business centers, respectively.

The unsettling saga began when Chipadza’s family retrieved what they believed to be Takudzwa’s body from Gweru Provincial Hospital mortuary on December 6. Without suspecting any error, they proceeded to lay their loved one to rest at Mutasa cemetery in the city the following day.

Simultaneously, Sibanda’s family, unaware of the impending confusion, collected what they thought was Courage’s body from the same mortuary. The tragic error only came to light during the funeral proceedings in Somabhula when the grieving family noticed the discrepancy during the body viewing.

Swift action followed, as the concerned family alerted Gweru Provincial Hospital authorities about the distressing mix-up. Takudzwa’s relatives were promptly engaged, leading to a startling revelation upon the identification of the bodies – Courage Sibanda had been mistakenly buried by the wrong family.

In an effort to rectify the harrowing mistake, the exhumation of Sibanda’s body was ordered and carried out a week later. The bodies were then rightfully handed over to their respective families for the proper burial they deserved.

The funerals of both Takudzwa Chipadza and Courage Sibanda were expected to take place on Friday, marking the culmination of a heart-wrenching series of events that highlighted the need for heightened vigilance in the handling of deceased individuals to prevent such distressing errors.- State Media

Two Bodies Exhumed Following Burial Mishap

Two Gweru families will today exhume a body of a deceased relative for reburial after one of the families mistakenly claimed a wrong corpse at the Gweru Provincial Hospital mortuary for burial. The other family discovered that they had collected a wrong body on burial day during viewing.

It was later learnt that their relative had already been buried by the other family.

Midlands Provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mhoko said the two families will meet today at Mutasa Cemetry where the other body will be exhumed.

“Circumstances are that relatives of one of the deceased, Takudzwa Chipadza went to Gweru Provincial Hospital last week and collected the body of Courage Sibanda.

Sibanda’s relatives then later went to the hospital and erroneously collected Chipadza’s body.

“Both deceased were victims of murder,” said Insp Mahoko.

He said Chipadza’s relatives buried Sibanda’s body in error, assuming the corpse belonged to their relatives only for Sibanda’s relatives to realise on burial day that they had a wrong body.

“They then approached the hospital where the error was noted hence the two families are today exhuming Sibanda’s body so that they can swap the bodies for reburial,” he said.

Transport Minister Sued Over Defective Flyover

HARARE residents are suing Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister Hon. Felix Mhona, over some defective flyovers, which are posing a serious safety risk to inhabitants of the capital city.

The residents through their association, Harare Residents Trust (HRT) recently filed an application at Harare High Court seeking an order to compel Hon. Mhona to rectify the defects on three of the capital city’s flyovers located along Simon Mazorodze road, Lytton road and Fidel Castro road within 90 days of the granting of the court order so as to ensure that the flyovers are safe for use by road users.

HRT also wants the High Court to declare that Hon. Mhona’s conduct in failing to rectify the defects on the three flyovers to be a contravention of residents’ right to an environment that is not harmful to their health or well-being as enshrined in section 73(1) of the Constitution.

Through the application, which was filed on 8 December 2023 by Tonderai Bhatasara of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights, HRT together with Loreen Mupesa, a resident of Harare, who said she frequently uses roads located on the flyovers, argued that as the official responsible for maintenance and rehabilitation of roads in Zimbabwe, Hon. Mhona has a duty to safeguard people’s lives by ensuring that roads are safe in the country.

HRT and Mupesa protested that Hon. Mhona had not attended to fixing the defects, which were noted on the flyovers several years ago and this had exposed the flyovers to the risk of collapse and thereby endangering the lives of members of the public.

HRT and Mupesa said with each day passing, the flyovers had increasingly became dangerous and unsafe to use.

According to HRT and Mupesa, the defects on the three flyovers were identified by officials from the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development and City of Harare, who conducted a joint inspection and these are contained in a report, which the officials produced on 27 July 2012.

Some of the defects, which were noted and are listed in the joint report include spalling of concrete on bottom flanges of beams on edges, severe corrosion to reinforcement steel, visible cracks along the centreline deck, severely damaged expansion joints, excessive vibration of superstructure, poor drainage of super structure, water leaking on expansion joints and longitudinal cracks.

HRT and Mupesa argued that while Hon. Mhona’s ministry had in 2021 acknowledged the existence of the defects on the flyovers and had undertook to rectify them, he had since 2021 not fixed them hence the residents now want the Minister to be compelled by the High Court to repair them and help eliminate the danger, which they pose to motorists and other road users.

DeMbare, Ngezi Platinum To Use Heart Stadium For International Matches

Yadah founder and owner Prophet Walter Magaya has offered his newly-commissioned The Heart Stadium to Ngezi Platinum Stars and Dynamos, for use in the two club’s CAF competitions next year.

Ngezi won their first Castle Lager Premier Soccer League title while DeMbare ended their 9-year drought by scooping the Chibuku Super Cup and the two clubs will participate in the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup respectively.

But with Zimbabwe not having any stadium fit to host CAF matches, Madamburo and DeMbare might find themselves playing home matches in outside the country, a situation Magaya wants to be avoided.

The first phase of The Heart Stadium was commissioned by President Emmerson Mnangagwa last week and Magaya insists it will be ready for CAF matches by the first week of February next year, hence Ngezi and Dynamos can benefit.

“As you know, I’m now starting to construct another changing room. The stadium will have four changing rooms, with the other one specifically for CAF,” said Magaya.

“We hope that any team that wants to use the facility is very much welcome.

“I love Ngezi, I love Manica Diamonds, I love Dynamos, I love all the teams that are in Zimbabwe.

“So I don’t mind them (Ngezi and Dynamos) coming to use the stadium for their respective campaigns in the African safari.

“That’s why I named the Stadium The Heart Stadium, not Yadah Stadium, meaning any team in Zimbabwe is welcome if they want to use it” added Magaya.-Soccer24 News

Chamisa Adopts New Strategy, Confronts Mnangagwa

By James Gwati- The Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) youth league in Bulawayo has issued a chilling warning of impending street protests if urgent electoral reforms are not swiftly implemented.

CCC Task Force National Administrator Pashor Raphael Sibanda, a former Cowdray Park MP, alleged during a press conference on Thursday that crucial state institutions, including the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC), the judiciary, and ZRP, have fallen under the control of ZANU PF.

Sibanda accused the ruling party of orchestrating illegal recalls of CCC representatives from both parliament and local governments, using what he referred to as “captured” institutions to undermine the democratic process.

CITE quoted Sibanda, stating, “We are aware of the Zanu-PF agenda to try to steal the will of the people and undermine the role of the alternative in the country.”
He added, “We want to send a clear message to the regime to reform as a matter of urgency and let the will of the people be respected and protected. Failure to do so, the streets shall be the avenue of our struggle.”

In response to Sibanda’s claims, President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s spokesperson George Charamba dismissed him as “a mere deviant boy” and downplayed the importance of his statements. Charamba revealed a purported shift in CCC’s strategy, suggesting a move toward more confrontational politics, direct funding, and the emergence of a more youthful and militant leadership for the opposition. Charamba hinted at a follow-up meeting scheduled for December 5th in Lusaka, Zambia, suggesting a potential upheaval within the opposition.
Charamba concluded with a cryptic warning, stating, “Of course, these boys of brawn will soon learn – like the proverbial burnt child – to dread fire!!!! Ndapedza; vanzwa vatonzwa!” indicating an escalating tension and potential conflict within the political landscape.

Hopewell Chin’ono Involved In Verbal Car-Accident While Accusing Chamisa Of Own Log

BITI #Hopewell Chin’ono Says Chamisa Used A Dream To Terminate Biti’s Career, When There’s Full Colour Video And A High Court Case: Mashwede vs Biti.

By A Correspondent | Hopewell Chin’ono who’s notorious over a leaked audio of him with a Swaziland based editor saying God told him in a dream he would become the next President of Zimbabwe, has opened an accusation against CCC President Nelson Chamisa saying the latter used a dream to terminate his former deputy Tendai Biti’s career, allegations disproved by a full colour video clip of a ZANU PF tycoon who instructed the Justice Ministry and the JSC to adjust electoral boundaries so that Biti won’t come back to parliament.

Mashwede vs Biti case

Already Chinono is infamous over a leaked January 2023 audio of a discussion between him and a military intelligence officer in which he advises the army that Nelson Chamisa’s party must split after the 2023 elections because according to him, Chamisa is incompetent.

He’s also notorious for failing to disclose the UK bank he says funded his sports car lifestyle with an untraceable 1996 £50,000 loan he says is the source of his property wealth, and the same Hopewell Chin’ono accuses Chamisa of misrule.

On 12 April 2023, businessman, Mashwede-Tendai Mashamhanda was filmed writing to the Justice Ministry and a Judicial Setvices Officer instructing them that Tendai Biti’s electoral boundaries must be adjusted so that he fails to contest the 2023 polls and that he only makes it back into electoral spaces in 2033.

Biti who was contacted by ZimEye and other journalists back then on multiple occasions, could have easily pre-empted and exposed the plot, but did not.

Biti also sabotaged another nation saving opportunity that could have made him indispensable in Sept 2022, and violence prevention expert, Comfort Dondo briefly talks of this as she calls him out over his failure to turn up for an appointment with his (Biti’s lawyer) on the day he could have saved both the suffering people and his career.

Dondo says: “Biti come here and deny this, that you turned your back in Sept 2022, when you cared not a thing to save both your career and the lives of Zimbabweans, when you perfectly KNEW that I and other Zimbabweans were stranded in Zambia with your lawyer, as we waited for you.

I SAID COME HERE, TENDAI! HUYA PANO!… “

But Hopewell Chinono has accused Nelson Chamisa of using a dream to terminate Tendai Biti’s career.

Chinono, who has not cared to apologise for leaking the addresses of torture victims’ safe houses to the military, and advising their head Constantino Chiwenga to visit the victims in order to address tension, writes of this saying Nelson Chamisa must accept responsibility for Biti’s career crash.

Hopewell Chin’ono says in full: “You guys are not serious at all!

“I told everyone who reads my social media as far back as April that there was a rift at the top of the opposition party after the deliberate but unstrategic marginalisation of the senior leadership in the opposition.

“You took turns to insult me saying that the opposition was united, and that it was my own misplaced imagination that there was a rift at the top.

“I told you all that the risk and failure to making the senior guys part of an united election campaign was a massive strategic error because after ZANUPF has rigged, Nelson Chamisa would not have the key pillars to help him face ZANUPF in the different political arenas, again makazvifonera lying to yourselves that there was unity in the opposition.

“I repeatedly reminded you here that the failure to have a proper structured leadership would weaken the party, again I got more insults.
You did what you deceitfully do always using the false equivalence argument that the MDCA was taken over with structured leadership.

“Yet you all know that the MDCA was taken over because of Morgan Tsvangirai’s unconstitutional appointments of 2 Vice Presidents, something that you also rabidly supported against the legal advice of Advocate Eric Matinenga whose blood is pure with love for the opposition and was the GNU Constitutional Affairs Minister …

“The real truth is that Dr Nkosana Moyo was right that Zimbabwe is one big ZANUPF society, and that the way ZANUPF behaves is the same way that many Zimbabweans behave.

“Today you are reaping the consequences of these misplaced and juvenile political decisions that you supported, it is not as if you didn’t know, we told you repeatedly here.

“You simply don’t like being told the truth when it doesn’t suit your own political narratives that defend your favorite politicians whether it is ZANUPF or CCC, it is a Zimbabwean thing that Dr Nkosana Moyo talked about.

“You are not fighting for democracy because democracy is rule based, you have constantly supported misrule as long as it is being done by Nelson Chamisa.

“You supported his marginalisation of the senior colleagues, you supported his one man election campaign.
I say a one man election campaign because all the senior leaders were not allowed to address elections rallies where Nelson Chamisa was.

“If he had won he would have claimed the victory as his, but I also warned that if he loses the loss would be his whether it comes through rigging or not.

“We were not speaking out of turn, we were speaking based on what both Nelson Chamisa and his senior colleagues were saying to each other.

“You hypocritically ask those maligned leaders to come to the fore when the party is in trouble due to the unconstitutionalism that you supported!

“Tendai Biti was told by Chamisa that he had a dream and God told him that he was not part of the CCC parliamentary future, ask Biti or Chamisa if I am lying!

“Yet today you ask the same Tendai Biti who was spoken of in the dream to come and defend the party after the decisions you made have backfired!

“You are hypocrites and should leave those that you never wanted to carry on with their lives!

“I have used your tweet @Realeboha_Pa to address many who think like you and are saying the same things that you have said.

“@Mathuthu is being insulted for speaking his mind yet you pretend to be democrats, to you democracy is agreeing with everything you do whether right or wrong.

“Political dynamics in a political party can be complex leading to differing perspectives contributing to varied opinions, that is healthy.

“But it is essential for a healthy democracy to encourage open dialogue and diverse viewpoints and not call everyone who disagrees with you a sell out.

“Some of us say these truths in order for history to record us correctly not for today’s RETWEETS or LIKES.

“Remember that every decision in life has consequences, when those consequences come, don’t pretend that you didn’t make those decisions.

“Accept your responsibilities!?? “

Mnangagwa In Panic Mode

By James Gwati-President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s spokesperson, George Charamba, has fired a warning shot at the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), led by Nelson Chamisa, cautioning them against resorting to mass action to compel ZANU PF to negotiate. Charamba, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), urged Chamisa to consider negotiations with Sengezo Tshabangu, asserting that Tshabangu is open to engagement, “at least for now.”

Tshabangu, an activist within CCC, declared himself the party’s interim secretary general in October and has since initiated the recall of numerous CCC representatives, diminishing the opposition’s presence in Parliament.

Charamba sternly advised Chamisa that if he believes mass protests will sway ZANU PF and bring them to the negotiating table, he should remember the formidable opponent he is dealing with. Suggesting a potential ruthless response from the State’s security apparatus, Charamba stated, “A key principle in politics is understanding your customer; there is no clue anyone in Triple C, least of all Chamisa, works with this elementary political principle which informs what does and cannot do. Politics is the art of the possible.”

The warning comes amidst speculation that CCC may be considering mass action as a strategy to pressure ZANU PF. Charamba’s reference to the government’s deployment of the military in central Harare in 2018, where at least six people were shot dead during protests, serves as a stark reminder of the potential consequences of such actions. The stage is set for a high-stakes political showdown between Chamisa’s CCC and Mnangagwa’s ZANU PF.

Mthuli Ncube Backs Down On New Passport Fees

Finance minister Mthuli Ncube steered through his 2024 national budget in a marathon sitting of parliament which concluded just before 1AM on Friday, making several revisions to his tax proposals.

Ncube told MPs road toll fees would go up by 50 percent, backing down from the 150 percent increase he announced on November 30.

The minister also bowed to pressure and said he would lower the price of a standard passport to US$150, after having proposed, in his budget speech, to increase it to US$200 from the current US$120.

The 1 percent wealth tax on home owners was also radically reviewed to affect only second homes, not primary residencies. He raised the threshold to properties worth at least US$250,000 from US$100,000 he proposed previously. The tax will be capped at a maximum US$50,000 per year for properties worth over US$5 million.

Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) MPs were ejected from parliament and banned for four sittings after singing and heckling when Speaker of Parliament Jacob Mudenda announced Scott Sakupwanya as the new MP for Mabvuku Tafara. Sakupwanya won by default when the CCC candidate, who beat him only in August before he was controversially recalled, was barred by a court from standing.

The budget passed with only Zanu-PF MPs present.

In his 2024 budget statement, Ncube had proposed to more than double tollgate fees from US$2 to US$5 or equivalent for light vehicles on what he called “premium roads” – Harare to Beitbridge and Plumtree-Bulawayo-Harare-Mutare. This would have seen a return trip from Harare to Bulawayo with a family sedan costing US$50 at tollgates.

On other roads, toll fees were to go up by 100 percent from US$2 to US$4 for light motor vehicles. The minister has now fixed that at US$3.

“We are proposing that rather than increasing the basic toll fee by 100 percent, I am now proposing that we increase it only by 50 percent. We have lowered the increase,” Ncube said.

“The same applies to the premium roads, again I am not proposing the full amount but only half of that. So, we have lowered these toll fee increases.

“I also listened to a comment that perhaps tollgates that are closer to the city should have lower toll fees than elsewhere. We will look into this. It sounds like a noble proposal because some of the people who live out at the edge of the city or those who work in the city, if they are having to pay high toll fees, we do not want that. We want it to be fair and reflect the fact that the work here we do not want to overly penalise those individuals.”

Ncube had proposed an increase in passport fees from US$120 to US$200 starting from January next year. He told MPs that he had planned to use the money to install automated passport readers at ports of entry to remove the need for human intervention.

MPs said the raise was too high, and Ncube conceded: “On passport fees, we have listened carefully to the contributions from the portfolio chairpersons and Hon. Members that the US$200 is on the high side, we agree with that. It is just that when we were having the discussions about modernising our borders, we wanted to be the first country outside Dubai to have an unmanned border post where you can walk in because now we have an e-passport with a chip in it

“You can walk in and the gates open your passport is read. You do not talk to anybody. We want that equipment here by end of 2024. We have to be modern. That is what motivated us. It is the kind of thinking to say we need resources to support the ministry of home affairs and we thought that increasing passports was one way to do this.

“Someone proposed that rather than US$120 for an ordinary passport, let us make it US$150. It is a proposal, but for the express passport, the 24-hour passport, anyone who needs it urgently is often those who can afford it. That one should be US$250. I know one Hon. Member who proposed US$350, but let us make it US$250 and I think US$250 is okay”.

In his Z$60 trillion budget, Ncube was heavily criticised over a 1 percent wealth tax proposal on properties worth US$100,000 or more.

“On the wealth tax, I accept the contributions from the public, from the portfolio chairpersons and Members of Parliament that we need to move the threshold. Some members suggested that the 70 years exemption should be brought down to 65, again I agree with that.

“We must also exempt the primary residence of an owner of a property… So the primary residence is excluded. In fact, I am proposing a new threshold of US$250,000. I am also proposing a limit as to how much any person can pay. No-one should pay more than US$50,000 per annum. That pertains to a property of about US$5 million. In other words, if you have a property worth about that value and beyond, really you should not be paying more than that, there should be a cap somewhere.”

Parliament adjourned until 12.49AM until January 30, 2024.

Magaya Offers Heart Stadium To DeMbare, Ngezi Platinum

Ex-ZIFA Executives Drag State To Court

FORMER Zimbabwe Football Association (Zifa) executives Felton Kamambo, Brighton Malandule, Philemon Machana, Stanley Chapeta and Joseph Mamutse facing fraud charges emanating from a clash with the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) have taken the fight for their freedom to the Constitutional Court.

On Friday, the five notified the court of their intention to take the matter to the apex court indicating their displeasure in how the State has handled the matter.

They are accused of writing letters on Zifa letterhead purporting to be executive committee members at a time they were on suspension.

The State has refused to withdraw the allegations despite the SRC which is the complainant pulling out of the matter.

They believe the State’s conduct is bad for football as the withdrawal by SRC was part of their agreement with FIFA, the world football governing board to have the nation restored to international football after a two-year ban.

Represented by Admire Rubaya believe their rights are being violated by the prosecution and want the apex court to determine the lawfulness of their prosecution.

“The accused persons are facing allegations arising from a criminal complaint lodged by SRC, and the trial has commenced before you. Midway, the SRC has effectively informed the prosecutor general that they are withdrawing the charges against the accused.

“The chairman of SRC, Gerald Mlothswa on June 14 2023, advised the then acting prosecutor general Nelson Mutsonziwa that SRC no longer considered itself the complainant in the matter. The SRC is the only witness of critical importance and we are saying whatever the State wants to do must be in terms of the law. The withdrawal by SRC was used as one of the basis to uplift the ban on ZIFA,” Rubaya submitted.

They are seeking to have the top court intervene and protect their constitutional right to liberty.

“The process the State wants to undertake is an abuse of the court process. The decision of the prosecution is moral defilement and unlawful deprivation of accused personal liberty. It is their belief that the process is unconstitutional,” he added.

Controversial Zanu PF MP Scott Sakupwanya Implicated In Drug Peddling Scandal With A Relative

By A Correspondent| Serious allegations of a well-organized drug syndicate have surfaced against Zanu PF Mabvuku-Tafara Member of Parliament and President Mnangagwa’s associate, Scott Sakupwanya, and his relative Mavis, as this publication can authoritatively reveal.

The accusations suggest that Mavis serves as Scott’s conduit in drug trafficking and peddling, casting a shadow on the gold dealer.

Our month-long investigation has uncovered that Mavis (Sakupwanya) operates from two bases – Cresta Oasis and Raylton Sports Club.

These claims have sparked concern, prompting a closer examination of the connections and operations surrounding these infamous locations.

Multiple sources have informed this publication that Scott and his associates are both consumers and sponsors of this alleged drug cartel.

It is further alleged that Mavis receives protection from Scott and her father, Air Commodore Sakupwanya.

“She enjoys protection from top figures, including Scott and Air Commodore Sakupwanya,”

When approached for comment, Mavis neither confirmed nor denied the allegations; instead, she took a confrontational stance.

She vehemently dismissed the claims and issued a stern warning to the reporter, threatening legal action.

“I will not hesitate to take action against you,” she declared.

This development comes a week after the Zimbabwe Republic Police announced a list of top drug dealers, seemingly overlooking high-profile individuals, including newly elected Mbare councillor Dhama, who was once incarcerated.

Welshman Insists He’s Right On Mabvazuva

By Farai D Hove | Former MDC Alliance Vice President Welshman Ncube has set off a political firestorm with a firecracker on Thursday night, unveiling what he describes as the unspoken truth within the party’s National Council.

In his statement, Ncube declared saying, “Every member of the then National Council knows what happened on 22 Jan 2022 at Mabvazuva. We ALL know the truth. We were there! Many are terrified of the Twitter warriors to acknowledge the truth publicly. We have no moral authority to oppose ZANUPF if we can’t stand for truth.”

This statement comes amid longstanding silence from Ncube on the persistent claims made by Sengezo Tshabangu, a political figure labeled a “political imposter,” who asserts himself as the CCC’s Secretary General. Notably, Ncube has refrained from condemning these falsehoods, prompting scrutiny over his commitment to transparency and truth within the political arena.

Following his failure to address the allegations against Tshabangu, Ncube has taken on the role of an arbiter, positioning himself to adjudicate between what he perceives as false and true within the party. This self-appointed role adds a layer of complexity to the internal dynamics of the MDC Alliance and the evolving narrative surrounding its members.

The recent development stems from a Twitter exchange between Ncube and CCC supporter Chris Chidarikire, where questions about Ncube’s absence from recent CCC events led to a nuanced discussion. Ncube’s response, particularly when questioned about his role in the CCC’s leadership, suggested a belief that he should hold a position, emphasizing the party’s departure from its original structure.

“As of January 22, 2022, I was vice president of MDC Alliance,” Ncube clarified, recounting the party’s resolution to reconstitute itself as CCC and participate in the March 2022 by-elections under that banner. He highlighted that the National Council didn’t resolve to dissolve itself during this transition, providing context to the intricacies of the internal restructuring.

In the face of challenges, particularly concerning Sengezo Tshabangu, Ncube defended his position assertively. When pressed to condemn Tshabangu, he retorted, “When Thokozani Khupe and Douglas Mwonzora started recalling MDC Alliance MPs and councillors, did I not, in my capacity as vice president of MDC Alliance, come out guns blazing right up to the end? In what capacity do you want me to insert myself now?”

The overarching narrative also involves accusations against MDC Alliance leader Chamisa, alleging a concentration of power and a dismantling of established structures, leading to a fallout with key figures like Biti and Ncube. Chamisa’s response, asserting that the CCC is a new party set to elect its leadership in the future, has drawn criticism, with some claiming it casts doubts on his commitment to democratic principles.

As the political drama unfolds, Welshman Ncube’s revelation and subsequent engagement in the ongoing discourse bring to light the intricate web of tensions, accusations, and power dynamics within the MDC Alliance, raising questions about the party’s cohesion and the trajectory of its leadership.

Battle Against Drug Abuse Is Everyone’s Responsibility

Let’s embark on a deeper exploration of the intricate and multifaceted world of substance abuse and its close companion, denial. Denial, in the context of addiction, is not a mere assertion that one is free from substance abuse issues or can quit at will. It is a complex psychological phenomenon that often extends its reach far beyond the substance itself, influencing behaviors, circumstances, and belief systems.

Addiction, particularly when fueled by potent substances like crystal meth, exerts a profound impact on an individual’s psyche. It brings about a cascade of behavioral changes, effectively robbing them of empathy and sympathy, two fundamental aspects of human connection. What emerges from this transformation is a cocktail of aggression, anger, and various negative behaviors that become the new norm for someone trapped in the throes of addiction.

The paradox lies in the fact that, while these individuals may manifest increasingly hostile and irritable behaviors, they are often oblivious to these changes. In their self-deceptive state of denial, they may perceive themselves as harmless, even as they unwittingly push away their loved ones and make themselves inaccessible to support and understanding.

This state of denial extends to their belief system, where they staunchly maintain that their actions and substance abuse do not affect the people in their immediate environment, whether it be their coworkers, family members, or friends. They may remain steadfast in their conviction that their late-night activities in the garage, for example, are harmless, despite the disturbances they cause to those around them.

It is only as individuals progress in their journey toward recovery that the veils of denial begin to lift. These layers of self-deception gradually peel back, revealing the stark reality beneath. As they move through the steps of recovery and engage in a structured program, they slowly start to recognize the profound impact their behaviors have on those in their lives, as well as their own well-being.

For instance, take the case of an individual laboring late into the night, driven by the influence of crystal meth, blissfully unaware of the disruptions they cause to their family’s sleep and the peace of their neighbors. In their altered state, they genuinely believe they are diligently working, seemingly impervious to the harm they inflict on their surroundings.

In essence, denial is a formidable adversary, an intricate and pervasive barrier to self-awareness and change. It is not restricted solely to the quantity of drugs used or the belief that quitting is an easy feat. Denial extends its tendrils into every aspect of one’s life, reshaping perceptions and behaviors, and only begins to crumble as individuals confront their beliefs and embark on the path to recovery. As they progress in their journey, the truth gradually becomes evident, and the stronghold of denial loosens its grip, making way for a brighter, more hopeful future.

FULL TEXT- Newly sworn in MP Scott Sakupwanya’s parliamentary debate submissions

Thank you Mr. Speaker Sir.  Mr. Speaker, I want to thank you for the opportunity to add my views on the proposed 2024 budget. Firstly, I want to highlight that the projected reality of the upcoming 2024 year will form the premise of my debate.

The anticipated effects of the El Nino drought which we can feel even now, means beyond food security, we have to consider the massive drop in water levels which will have a ripple effect on the ability of the Kariba hydro plant to supply adequate electricity, thereby also affecting manufacturing and industry, coupling this with global challenges that we expect to be facing next year.

It is a marvel that the Hon. Minister has projected that we will reach 3,5% growth in the 2024 year. In light of this, I must applaud the Minister of Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion for including the $300 COVID Allowance towards the pension as this will protect our Civil Service and encourage the aspect of proper budgeting.

On the Wealth Tax, this is by definition, a proper initiative and I would like to thank our Minister for the proposition. However, I would like to propose that the tax condition should be limited to those who have two or more properties, the first one being exempted as a primary residence.

This will ensure that you are not just hitting someone who has had his primary residence and who has worked hard for that particular residence out of the blue, but instead, you are saying who is going to enjoy further investments from additional residences out of their primary residence will be falling under that Wealth Tax.

Given the difficult year ahead and with our challenges to have access to finance due to the punitive sanctions, again I applaud the Ministers for finding ways to finance our road infrastructure.  In Manicaland, we have a big challenge at the Forbes Border Post, the massive increase in productivity has led to long queues that lead to Mutare Town.

All this is happening before the Sabi Star Lithium Mine in Buhera starts exporting its product at full capacity.  This means that at its full capacity; we will have more than 100 trucks in a month, working our roads and extending the queues at the Forbes Boarder Post.

To this effect, the proposed marginal fuel levy is a welcome development.  I support that it be ring-fenced towards road infrastructure.  In the same vein, the toll fee increase suggested is also a welcome initiative to add to the funds needed for road infrastructure and development.

Mr. Speaker Sir, I must say that adding to road infrastructure should not just be on a quantitive basis, but on a qualitative one.  It is not enough to say that we need to add on to the roads, but we must also need to maintain the roads so that we have a standard that cuts across as our economy grows.

I want to take in the recommendation again of the Finance Committee that the public transport would ordinarily carry the low-income earners, that they be exempted from this toll fee increase.  Mr. Speaker Sir, I agree with the two cents per gram levy on beverages.  This is not a sugar tax itself which is a basic necessity, but on the beverages that are not classified as basic commodities.

Having heard sentiments alluding to the probability of smuggling, one should not be afraid to implement a progressive policy out of fear of illegality.  This is why we have our security sector at the border post and to ensure we protect local industry from the effects of smuggling.

So, I propose that the Minister, in the same vein, also increases the budget of the Ministry of Home Affairs which deals with border control and smuggling which was originally allocated 3,9 trillion against the budget requirement of 9,5 trillion.

As we consider the sugar tax, which is a progressive tax, I would also, in the same vein, highlight to the Minister of Finance that drug and substance abuse is a scourge that has affected our nation.

So whether it be under this budget consideration or future consideration, I suggest that the Minister must look into creating a fund that is directed towards drug and substance abuse.    In this vein, the Minster must consider putting a tax on alcohol in the same way that he implemented towards sugar tax.

Mr. Speaker Sir, as a youth, education is a priority for the future of our country. In this light, I want to highlight under the Ministry of War Veterans Affairs where they stated that under their education, only one billion was allocated out of a requirement of 136 billion.  This is only 15% of the students that are already attending school.

In the first term of 2024, only half of the students that go to school would have fully paid school fees.  The rest will not have fees paid for them and this is for War Veterans, people who went to war, and people who suffered injuries only for their families to be insulted in that way.

Mr. Speaker Sir, it is my humble plea that we urge the Ministry of Finance to put more weight, especially on the Education of the children of War Veterans, and meet the demand to show our appreciation for their efforts of having gone to the war.  We know they did not have the opportunity to go to school themselves, but at least let us allow their children to get a decent education without any disturbance.

Last but not least, I would want to just say, having heard all the arguments that I appreciate the Minister of Finance for continuing with a pro-poor budget, and I recommend that the Minister of Finance must be behold in ensuring that mechanisms are put in place, especially for the ring-fenced taxes that he suggested.

If indeed we are talking about ring-fencing for mining communities, let that amount go back to the mining community, be it Penhalonga, Buhera, or Mashonaland Central – it must follow that the last person on the ground can feel that the taxes are working.  With that, I humbly submit

Shops hike prices

Some shops have hiked prices on basic grocery items, making the festive season increasingly gloomy for most citizens already struggling to make ends meet.

According to a survey conducted by a local publication, shops have increased the prices of mealie-meal, sugar, cooking oil, rice and sugar, among others, even in United States dollars.

In some retail shops, a 2-litre bottle of cooking oil, which was selling at US$3, now costs US$4.50, while the price of a 2kg pack of rice rose to US$3.50 from US$2.

The price of a 2-litre bottle of Mazoe Crush rose to US$4,50 from $3, while a bar of washing soap now costs US$1.50 from US$1.

However, the Minister of Industry and Commerce Sithembiso Nyoni told NewsDay on Thursday that the Government will not impose price controls, but engage business over the price increases. She said:

Government does not tame prices. What we do is we discuss with the business and try to understand why they are hiking prices.

So, I will set up an office to look into that and then we will take the necessary dialogue steps to look into that.

Confederation of Zimbabwe Retailers (CZR) president Denford Mutashu warned of further price hikes.

He blamed the price increases on proposals to increase taxes by Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion Minister Mthuli Ncube in the 2024 budget. Said Mutashu:

There is a huge expectation of more price hikes before year-end and this has been triggered by the barrage of taxes on basic commodities contained in the 2024 budget.

The proposal to increase VAT [value-added tax] on basic commodities shocked the market because, since 1980, we have not had a hike on VAT on basic commodities.

The 1% wealth tax proposal has also resulted in property owners raising their rental fees.

So, business owners who rent property will increase the prices of the services and commodities.

He said the daily power cuts have increased the cost of running business as businesses are forced to rely on generators as alternative power sources. Mutashu said:

Big businesses are running on generators as a power source and it is not sustainable. It is not cost-effective, so all these cost drivers have piled pressure.

If there is no reversal of VAT on basic commodities and VAT on school fees, it is going to be a disaster because already schools have increased fees to cushion themselves from the VAT proposal.

Some schools have reportedly announced intentions to increase fees by up to 100% next term.

Mthuli Ncube increases luxury vehicles importation duty charges

Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion Minister, Mthuli Ncube has increased the import duty on the importation of luxury vehicles beginning 01 January 2024.

The new rates are contained in Statutory Instrument 239A of 2023 published in an extraordinary Government Gazette on Wednesday in terms of the Customs and Excise Act and may be cited as the Customs and Excise (Surcharge) Notice, 2023. It reads in part:

A surcharge specified in the Schedule to this notice shall apply on motor vehicles with Free On-Board values specified therein. The surcharge shall not apply to motor vehicles of a commercial nature and importations by Government.

Statutory Instrument 239A of 2023 stipulates that vehicles with a Free On Board value of between US$120 000 and US$300 000 will pay a surcharge of 30 per cent, while those valued at US$300 001 to US$700 000 will be taxed at 40 per cent while those above US$700 000 will pay 50 per cent of the value.
The new Statutory Instrument will repeal Statutory Instrument 87 of 2023 which prescribed a surcharge of 30 percent on vehicles valued at US$120 000 or more which shall cease to apply on 31 December 2023.

“Pay back bride price”: High court orders

By A Correspondent- The High Court has set aside a decision that ordered a Karoi man to pay back US$2 700 bride price to his son-in-law after his wife cheated on him.

Charles Bandera sued his son-in-law, Maxmillan Kondowe, appealing against a default judgment that ordered him to return the money after his daughter, Shumirai Bandera, committed adultery.

Maxmillan married Shumirai at a ceremony in Karoi sometime in March 2021 but was told he could only start living with her as his wife after their wedding.

But just two months after the lobola ceremony, Maxmillan discovered that Shumirai was sexually involved with another man. He confronted her and she allegedly confessed to the adultery in Harare.

Maxmillan went on to institute customary marriage divorce proceedings and the couple’s marriage was dissolved in January 2022.

He then served summons on Kondowe his father-in-law to return his bride price.

Kondowe failed to enter his appearance to defend the action leading the court to grant a default judgment in August 2022 that ordered him to return Maxmillan’s bride price.

After discovering that a Messenger of Court was deployed to execute the judgment, Kondowe applied for rescission of the same which was countered by Maxmillan’s application to stay the execution.

Job Sikhala’s Letter From Chikurubi Maximum Prison

ZW$500k bail for Bindura man nabbed for insulting ED

A 37 year old man from Bindura, Mashonaland Central Province, Patrick Kingirasi, who was arrested on allegations of undermining the authority of or insulting President Emmerson Mnangagwa, has been granted ZWL$500 000 bail.

The Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) said that Kingirasi, an unemployed resident of Bindura, was arrested last month and spent 24 days in pre-trial detention in Bindura Prison.

On Tuesday, 12 December, Bindura Magistrate Ndokera set Kingirasi free after granting him ZWL$500 000 bail.

Kingirasi, who was represented by human rights lawyer Pride Dzapasi, returns to court on 15 December. ZLHR said:

Prosecutors alleged that Kingirasi who is represented by [Pride P Dzapasi] undermined and insulted President Mnangagwa on 2 October, when he called Edson Chibaya, a fellow Bindura resident, on his mobile phone and made some utterances to the effect that the ruling ZANU PF political party members were thieves and blamed the ruling party’s leader for causing massive suffering among citizens and for authoring the country’s economic crisis.

Kingirasi is alleged to have shouted at Chibaya in the Shona language that “Musandiitire zvechimbavha zve ZANU PF nava Mnangagwa venyu varikutipa kutambura,” which prosecuting authorities translated to mean “Do not be thievery in ZANU PF way with your Mnangagwa, who is causing us to suffer.”

Prosecutors said Kingirasi’s alleged utterances were unlawful, intentional, abusive, indecent and abusive.

The Bindura resident is the latest among dozens of Zimbabweans, who have been arrested, detained and prosecuted on charges of undermining the authority of or insulting President Mnangagwa.

During the reign of Robert Mugabe, the country’s late leader, more than 200 people were prosecuted and persecuted on the same nefarious charges of undermining the authority of or insulting the President, charges which continue to be preferred against citizens in the post-Mugabe era.

Trio in soup over leaked exam

By A Correspondent- Three students from TelOne Centre of Learning who allegedly sold a leaked HEXCO Engineering and Mathematics paper that was written last week to some first year counterparts have appeared in court today.

Elton James, Kudzai Shepherd Chimutsa and Bradley Mangombe appeared before Harare Magistrate Mr Dennis Mangosi facing possession of articles for criminal use.

They were remanded out of custody on $50 bail each and will be back in court on January 18, 2024 for trial date.

The State alleged that on December 8, the complainant, TelOne Centre of Learning represented by Josephine Muzhangiri received information that examination papers which were being written have leaked at the institution.

She then started doing some internal investigations which revealed that Nicolette Rukasha and Princess Gunduza who are Part 1.1 students at the institution were seen in possession of the leaked HEXCO Engineering Mathematics Paper 1 which had been written on December 7 at the institution.

They were asked and revealed that they bought the leaked examination paper from Mangombe and Chimutsa.

Mangombe was approached and he led Muzhangiri to Chimutsa who he said was the one who sold it to Rukasha and Gunduza.

Chimutsa, upon being interrogated, revealed that he got it from Elton James leading to the arrest of James, Chimutsa and Mangombe.

Stolen loot found in church

By A Correspondent- A caretaker from Plumtree, Ishmael Dube, found himself in legal trouble last week, resulting in the revelation of his stolen possessions hidden within a church building.

Dube faced charges at the Plumtree Magistrates Court on Wednesday, presided over by Magistrate Joshua Nembaware, who subsequently sentenced him to two years in jail. This verdict came after Dube pleaded guilty, with six months of the sentence conditionally suspended.

According to the prosecution led by Selestine Madziwa, the incident occurred on December 7 when Thandiwe Mbewe secured her homestead and left. Upon her return, she discovered that Dube had unlawfully entered her residence by breaking a window.

The convict made off with several items, including blankets, clothes, a microphone, a drilling machine, and a wood cutting machine. Subsequently, Dube stored his stolen goods in a church building, presumably for safekeeping.

Upon returning home the next day, Mbewe realized her belongings had been stolen. During her search for the missing items, she located some of them within a nearby church. Promptly, a police report was filed, leading to Dube’s subsequent arrest.

In court, Dube admitted to the charges, resulting in his conviction and the imposed sentence. Magistrate Nembaware, in delivering the verdict, opted for a two-year jail term, with six months conditionally suspended, highlighting the severity of Dube’s actions and the impact on the victim.

“No iota of evidence”: Sikhala fumes

By A Correspondent- Former Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) lawmaker, Job Sikhala, currently languishing at Chikurubi Maximum Prison on alleged violence incitement, on Wednesday stood to defend himself as his defence hearing commenced before Harare magistrate Tafadzwa Miti.

The veteran politician is jointly charged with CCC MP Godfrey Sithole.

The two are accused of inciting public violence during the tense period which followed the shock killing of CCC activist Moreblessing Ali in Nyatsime, Chitungwiza May last year.

The state bases its evidence on a video image of Sikhala demanding justice for the slain activist.

The two had their application for discharge dismissed recently after the court ruled they had a case to answer.

On Wednesday, Sikhala, also a lawyer, took a swipe at prosecutors he accused of incompetence in handling the case.

The state alleged that charges against the fiery politician and rights activist arose from a video he allegedly captured and published with local media.

But Sikhala said no one from the publication testified when the state led evidence into his trial.

“They failed to produce any iota of evidence,” Sikhala said.

“I’ve been in a lot of cases in this court, but I have never come across such embarrassing evidence like the one that was produced by the State in this case.

“I was expecting the State to prove through their witnesses the evidence that I had posted any video which they failed to do with their four witnesses.”

Sikhala singled out Gift Mutara, the IO in his case, saying he failed to produce evidence to prove the case.

“During his testimony and cross examination, he was asked to produce that evidence and he said he did have it before this court,” he said.

Sikhala also said prosecutors failed to support a claim that he ferried mourners to Nyatsime area.

“The allegations that I supplied transport to people in Nyatsime are the lies the State has been peddling in this court.

“That’s why we made an application for the entire outline to be expunged from the record because none of the witnesses could support it,” he said.

The trial will continue on December 19.

Tension in Zanu Pf backyard

By A Correspondent- Simmering tension has absorbed the ruling Zanu-PF in President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s Midlands backyard, stoked by the party’s provincial leadership’s decision to block scheduled disciplinary hearings for his allies who lost in primary elections and tried to canvass protest votes against the winning candidates in the 23 August polls.

In a memo to district coordinating committees and senior provincial members on Monday last week, acting Zanu-PF Midlands provincial chairperson Edson Chiherenge notified that disciplinary hearings would be held 6 December.

Part of the memo reads: “All members of the party who were summoned to appear before the Midlands provincial disciplinary committee are directed to report at the Zanu-PF provincial offices on (Wednesday) December 6, 2023.”

However, the following day, Chiherenge wrote another memo cancelling the scheduled hearings.

“Please be advised that the acting Midlands provincial chairman has ordered the nullification of all disciplinary processes within the Midlands province. All notices of hearings and prohibition orders issued out are no longer valid,” he wrote.

Sources told The NewsHawks that the directive to block the hearings had come to the Midlands Zanu-PF leadership from higher offices at party headquarters in Harare after it was discovered that Mnangagwa’s allies such as Justice Mayor Wadyajena were in the firing line.

Wadyajena, who lost to Flora Buka during the primaries, was placed on suspension after being accused of sabotaging her campaign rallies and canvassing for protest votes.

“The cancelling of the hearings has now sowed seeds of division in the party and people in the structures of the party are agonising. They are saying no one must be bigger than the party,” an impeccable source told The NewsHawks.

“People in the party expected justice to be done on those charged and suspended for indiscipline. The party is being weakened by things like this and the tension at the moment is at its highest levels.”

Other sources highlighted that without any punishment being seen to be imposed on those who erred ahead of the 23 August elections, internal healing of those aggrieved will continue to affect party business in the Midlands.

“All is not well in Zanu-PF Midlands. The people are angry and this is now adding to the disgruntlement on candidate selection ahead of the elections where certain comrades were imposed,” another source told The NewsHawks.

In March this year, Mnangagwa’s close allies in his Midlands backyard were exempted from being challenged by other party officials in Zanu-PF primary elections ahead of the 23 August elections, in a development that fomented political tension.

These included cabinet minister July Moyo, who was listed as an unopposed candidate for Redcliff constituency; former minister of State in the President’s Office in Charge of Policy Implementation Jorum Gumbo, who went on to represent the ruling party in Mberengwa unopposed as a senator and former State Security minister Owen Ncube, who contested in Gokwe-Kana constituency.

In Kwekwe Central, Energy Ncube, the nephew of former State Security minister Owen “Mudha” Ncube, was imposed as an automatic candidate ahead of former city deputy mayor John Mapuranga who represented the party in last year’s 26 March by-elections and Archbishop Kandros Mugabe, a prominent gold baron who represented the party in the 2018 general polls.

In Chiundura, there was an uproar after accusations of rigging against former Vungu Rural District Council chairperson Celton Charamba, who was initially announced the winner, but political commissar Mike Bimha overturned his victory on the final list made public in Harare. Slemani Kwidini was subsequently declared winner.

In Zhombe constituency there was massive disgruntlement after Mnangagwa’s ally Edmore Samambwa was declared an uncontested candidate despite the fact that several members had forwarded their applications to the provincial leadership expressing interest in contesting at that time.

Samambwa is Mnangagwa’s long-time ally. He was suspended as Midlands Zanu-PF youth chairperson in March 2016 for supporting the Mnangagwa faction at a time the camp was battling the G40 faction in the race to succeed the then president Robert Mugabe.

In May, Zanu-PF accordingly dispatched two senior party officials, Tino Machakaire and Lovemore Matuke to the Midlands to hold crisis meetings following the political turmoil that has gripped Mnangagwa’s home province ahead of the August general elections.

The mayhem emanated from the holding of controversial primary elections to choose party candidates which were marred by accusations of internal vote rigging. As a result, popular party members fell by the wayside while Mnangagwa’s associates were exempted from the intra-party contestation.

The latest developments in which Mnangagwa’s allies have been pardoned before hearings are therefore worsening the already existing tension in the ruling party in the Midlands province.

Tshabangu recalls Mayor Chitengu

By A Correspondent- The City of Harare will have its fourth mayor in four months after local government minister Winston Chitando confirmed the recall of Lovejoy Chitengu as councillor for Ward 36.

The recall instigated by Sengezo Tshabangu, who claims to be CCC interim secretary general, was originally communicated to the local authority on November 13 by Chitando – before Chitengu was voted mayor.

Following a series of back and forth letters with the City of Harare, Chitando clarified in a December 11 letter to Harare’s town clerk: “Reference is made to… our minute to yourselves dated November 13; your minute to ourselves dated November 16 and the received communication from Citizens Coalition for Changs dated November 26 on the matter of Lovejoy Chitengu who has ceased to be a member.

“In terms of section 278(1) of the constitution of Zimbabwe as read with section 129(1)(k), ward 36 is vacant.

“Please proceed to inform the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission of the vacancy.”

Jacob Mafume was Harare mayor until the August 23 general elections. Councillors elected Ian Makone as Harare mayor on September 11 before he was recalled by Tshabangu on November 13.

Curiously, the same communication of Makone’s recall sent by Chitando on November 13 also contained Chitengu’s name, but he carried on regardless and Harare councillors subsequently elected him mayor on November 21.

The local authority must now elect a new mayor, the fourth for the city since August.

The Citizens Coalition for Change led by Nelson Chamisa which sponsored the recalled councillors is fighting in court to reestablish authority after5 dismissing Tshabangu as an impostor.

CCC threatens street protests

By A Correspondent- The Citizens Coalition for Change’s (CCC) Youth Task Force in Bulawayo has threatened street protests if urgent electoral reforms are not implemented.

Speaking during a press conference on Thursday, 14 December, CCC Task Force National Administrator Pashor Raphael Sibanda, who was elected Cowdray Park MP in August before he was recalled by Sengezo Tshabangu in October, alleged that key State institutions such as the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC), the judiciary system, and ZRP have been captured by ZANU PF.

Sibanda said CCC representatives were illegally recalled from both parliament and local governments with the help of the “captured” institutions. Senzeni Ncube of CITE quoted Sibanda as saying:

We are aware of the Zanu-PF agenda to try to steal the will of the people and undermine the role of the alternative in the country.

We have noted imposters, fraudsters and criminals being used by the regime as political condoms to collapse the people’s movement and aid a one-party state through illegal recalls.

We want to send a clear message to the regime to reform as a matter of urgency and let the will of the people be respected and protected.

Failure to do so the streets shall be the avenue of our struggle.

Responding to Sibanda’s utterances, President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s spokesperson George Charamba mocked the former legislator and described him as “a mere deviant boy”. Charamba posted on X:

SITUATING PASHOR SIBANDA: PASHOR is not important as a person; if anything, he is a mere deviant boy who has yet to secure any form of employment in his life.

PASHOR is important as an incarnation of Triple C’s desperate rethink, buttressed by resolutions of what is termed the Southern Africa Human Rights Defenders’ Network which held its “summit” in Namibia from 22 to 24 November 2023.

At that meeting – which the State covered – there was a decision to change tact towards more confrontational politics, with Triple C getting direct funding, as happened to MDC during Tsvangirai days, and to Hichilema’s UPND before the Lungu defeat.

More importantly, a decision was taken to found a more youthful and militant leadership for the opposition, with four names suggested as foremost. I shall have occasion to reveal them.

A follow-up meeting was scheduled for 5th December, in Lusaka, Zambia. Again, I will apprise you at an appropriate time. Essentially this Western outfit is a Third Force in the making, which is why Chamisa is very worried.

It threatens to supersede him, forcing him to go suicidal through dull brawn actors like Pashor and Mkwananzi.

Of course, these boys of brawn will soon learn – like the proverbial burnt child – to dread fire!!!! Ndapedza; vanzwa vatonzwa!

Biti, Prof Ncube booted out

By A Correspondent- In a surprising turn of events, Nelson Chamisa, one of the leaders of the Citizens for Change Coalition (CCC), has raised eyebrows by instructing the removal of his long-time allies, Tendai Biti and Welshman Ncube, from the crucial WhatsApp group known as “Mugwazo.” This move has left many within the party questioning Chamisa’s leadership and intentions.

The Mugwazo group, initially formed to coordinate the mobilisation of rural voters ahead of the 23rd August 2023 elections, continued to function as a central hub for CCC coordination and internal discussions post-elections. It is from this platform that Chamisa decided to oust Biti and Ncube, two senior members who had been instrumental in the party’s foundation.

Critics argue that Chamisa’s decision to remove Biti and Ncube from this pivotal platform is a betrayal of trust and a testament to his unquenchable thirst for power. This action reflects a lack of respect and transparency within the party’s leadership.

Chamisa’s alleged history of betrayals doesn’t stop at Biti and Ncube. Job Sikhala, another prominent CCC member, was allegedly abandoned by Chamisa after being encouraged to incite violence during a previous period of political turmoil. When Sikhala faced legal consequences for his actions, Chamisa purportedly distanced himself, leaving Sikhala and his family to deal with the aftermath.

This pattern of behaviour has led some to label Chamisa as a heartless and self-centred leader, prioritising his own political survival over the welfare of his colleagues and the party’s unity.

The internal strife within the CCC has raised concerns about the party’s stability and unity. Biti, Ncube, and Sikhala, all founding members of the CCC and its predecessor, the MDC, have a history of forming their own political parties when disagreements arise. This has led to speculation that the CCC may be on the verge of a split, with the trio potentially pursuing their individual political agendas.

What adds to the bitterness of the situation is that Biti, Ncube, and Sikhala are seen as mentors who nurtured Chamisa’s political career. Their disillusionment at his recent actions has left many scratching their heads at the apparent betrayal.

Furthermore, Amos Chibaya, the CCC National Organising Secretary and a long-time friend of the trio, has been accused of collaborating with Chamisa to push them aside. Chibaya’s role as a trusted confidant of Chamisa has led some to view him as a personal weapon wielded by the leader to eliminate perceived threats within the party.

This internal discord within the CCC comes at a time when ZANU PF is gaining strength as recent by-elections saw ZANU PF making significant inroads into CCC strongholds, winning seven out of nine possible constituencies. ZANU PF legislators from other provinces actively supported their party’s candidates outside their respective regions, demonstrating a unified front that has attracted attention.

ZANU PF’s professionalism, unity, and clear policies have lured several opposition members, exacerbating the CCC’s woes. With the CCC facing internal strife and a resurgent ZANU PF, the political landscape in Zimbabwe remains uncertain, and the future of the CCC hangs in the balance.

Leaked Job Sikhala 2022 Video Dilutes Welshman’s Mabvazuva Tweet

JOB SIKHALA, CHAMISA VIDEO BELOW – JAN 2022.

List of Celebrities:

  1. Zahara (36)
  2. Sfiso Ncwane (37)
  3. R Mashesha (35)

Challenging Superstition and Speculation:

Public discourse has been marked by superstition and speculative theories attributing these tragedies to mysterious forces. However, it is crucial to note that not all celebrities have met untimely deaths before turning 40.

Discrediting the Generalization:

Despite none of the celebrities surpassing the age of 40, it is important to highlight the diversity in ages at which they passed away. Hugh Masekela died at 78; Gloria Bosman was 50 at death; Mahlathini was 62 when he died.

This challenges the generalized belief that South African celebrities are predisposed to premature mortality before the age of 40.

Consideration of Scientific Factors:

While superstition plays a role in the debate, it is essential to acknowledge scientific factors such as health conditions, lifestyle choices, and external influences that contribute to these deaths. A comprehensive analysis should weigh these aspects to grasp the complexities surrounding celebrity mortality.

VERDICT: The discourse on South African celebrity deaths under 40 reflects a blend of superstition, speculation, and partial truths. Recognizing the tragic reality that none of the listed celebrities lived beyond the age of 40 encourages a more nuanced analysis that considers both social and scientific factors. Shifting the conversation towards an evidence-based approach is crucial to dispel myths and foster a more informed public dialogue.

CCC Takes On Emmerson Mnangagwa

That Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa is illegitimate cannot be disputed, according to the Citizens Coalition for Change.

Addressing the media in Harare on Wednesday, CCC spokesperson Promise Mkwananzi described as worrisome the blatant violation of human rights by Mr Mnangagwa’s administration.

“We want a permanent political solution to the deepening crisis in Zimbabwe.

The economy is falling apart and the regime has failed to avert the impending catastrophe,” said Mkwananzi.

Did This Father Marry His Daughter to A Goblin?

The Chinzou family of Gosho Village in Chigodora is caught in the grips of chaos as allegations arise that Aleck Chinzou, the patriarch, has married off his daughter, Christina Chinzou, to a goblin. The bizarre situation has left the family grappling with mysterious misfortunes, including the recent tragic death of Christina’s brother.

Dad who sold his daughter off to a goblin (extreme left)

Christina presented her case before Headman Chigodora’s community court, claiming that her life has become a living hell due to alleged goblin marriage orchestrated by her father. She asserted that each time she enters into a relationship, she experiences mental illness, turning violent and resulting in the breakdown of the connection. She further accused her father of being the cause of her torment.

Adding to the family’s woes, Christina revealed that her brother recently perished in a mysterious fire, and spiritual healers pointed fingers at Aleck Chinzou as the instigator of the tragedy. The brother’s demise followed a summon to discuss the string of misfortunes plaguing the family.

Aleck vehemently denied the accusations, asserting that Christina feigned mental illness due to her own stubbornness. He argued that his daughter’s violent tendencies toward suitors were the real reason for her failed relationships. Aleck also pointed the finger at his son Bylord, suggesting a feud over the late son’s estate as a possible motive behind the family turmoil.

In a counterclaim, Bylord accused his father of wanting to seize his late brother’s estate and insisted that Aleck’s refusal to consult spiritual healers further fueled suspicions. The family drama has reached such a crescendo that Headman Chigodora ordered the Chinzou family to consult three traditional healers to resolve the matter.

The case remains adjourned until tomorrow as the family awaits the outcome of the traditional healers’ consultations. The Chigodora community watches with bated breath as the truth behind the goblin marriage allegations and the mysterious misfortunes unravel in this bewildering family saga.- State Media

CCC Youth Unleash Street Protests, Targeting Mnangagwa Over Electoral Frauds

CCC press conference

Bulawayo,

Bulawayo– The Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) Youth Task Force is set to escalate its protest, directing its fervor towards President Emmerson Mnangagwa, as urgent electoral reforms remain elusive. In a charged press conference led by CCC Task Force National Administrator Pashor Raphael Sibanda, key Zimbabwean institutions were accused of colluding to thwart democratic processes.

Sibanda alleged that the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC), the judiciary, and the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) are acting in concert with the ruling Zanu-PF, orchestrating what he deemed an illegitimate recall of CCC representatives from various government positions.

“Zanu-PF’s agenda to manipulate the will of the people and suppress the alternative voice is clear. The regime employs impostors, fraudsters, and criminals as political tools to dismantle our movement and pave the way for a one-party state through questionable recalls,” declared Sibanda.

The CCC Youth Task Force, in a bold move, explicitly targeted President Mnangagwa in their call for action. Sibanda stated, “We want to send a strong message to President Mnangagwa and his regime. The proposed 2024 National budget is anti-people, and we reject it unequivocally. Our MPs must debate and reject this budget, standing against policies that perpetuate the economic decay of our nation.”

Affirming the CCC’s role as a leading force, Sibanda emphasized, “As the party entrusted by the people to guide the country’s future, we declare that we are the present and future of this nation. We won’t tolerate any organization in Harare undermining the people’s will, particularly here in Bulawayo province.”

The press conference concluded with a defiant stance, as Sibanda asserted that the youth are ready to defend, advance, and secure the future for generations to come. “We demand immediate reforms from President Mnangagwa’s regime to respect and safeguard the will of the people. Failing which, the streets will become the battleground of our struggle, with Mnangagwa squarely in our sights,” he warned.- CITE

Klopp Takes A Swipe At Players Who “Refused” To Join Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp has taken a cheeky swipe at former transfer targets Romeo Lavia and Moises Caicedo, claiming that Liverpool were ‘lucky’ to miss out on the pair.

Caicedo and Lavia – then of Brighton and Southampton respectively – joined Chelsea for a combined sum of £173million after snubbing the Reds.

Following the defensive midfield duo’s move to London, the Anfield side ended up signing relatively unknown Stuttgart ace Wataru Endo for a modest £15m.

Together with other summer arrivals – Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai – the new midfielders have all impressed this season, helping the team leapfrog Arsenal at the top of the league.

During a Q&A in front of Liverpool supporters on Monday during the opening of their expanded Anfield Road End stand, Jurgen Klopp said on his summer business:

“The summer we had a few strange things happen in the transfer market but here, between us, I can say, “My god, were we lucky, eh?”.

“We didn’t know that in that moment and it didn’t feel like it in that moment, but yeah, I’m really happy that it worked out, but you never know before.”

The Liverpool manager added, jovially: “We obviously realised that other central defensive midfielders don’t want to join Liverpool, you see what happens, and then we found [Wataru] Endo. He’s an exceptional player.”-Soccer24 News

Zimbabwe Faces Child Malnutrition Crisis Amidst Growing Food Security Concerns

By Lloyd Makonese (Public Health Insights)
Harare, Zimbabwe – As Zimbabwe confronts a rising tide of child malnutrition, intertwined factors of socioeconomic challenges, sociopolitical unrest, inaccessibility of agricultural outputs due to escalating cost, and the devastating effects of climate change are casting a dark shadow over the nation.

With many families losing their primary sources of income, the basic necessities of life, such as food and medicine, are becoming luxuries. Recent reports paint a bleak picture: a sharp uptick in malnourished children, with some regions witnessing such severe cases that hospitalisation becomes a tragic necessity.

While the Zimbabwean government has recognised the magnitude of the crisis and committed to remedial actions, many citizens and activists argue that the response must be more immediate and comprehensive. They call for increased investments in the agricultural sector and bolstering social safety net programs. On the international front, organizations like the United Nations World Food Programme are intensifying their efforts, launching initiatives focusing on vulnerable groups like children and expectant or nursing mothers.

Disturbing Statistics on Malnutrition:
As reported by UNICEF, around 2.1% of Zimbabwean children under five were severely malnourished as of 2016, and this alarming trend appears to be on an upward trajectory. The same year 2016 saw Zimbabwe grappling with its most severe malnutrition rates in a decade and a half. Nearly 33,000 children urgently required treatment for acute malnutrition and up to date the mortality rate is understood to be on the rise. UNICEF’s publication of 2020 (Malnutrition cases rise as drought, economic deterioration hits Zimbabwe) highlights that almost 100,000 children under five are acutely malnourished, with over a million not receiving adequate nutrition for proper growth.

Geographical and Demographic Insights:
Zimbabwe’s nutritional landscape is marred by poor diet quality, with protein and micronutrient deficiencies hindering child growth. Exclusive breastfeeding rates are dishearteningly low at 42%, increasing the risk of early-age infections. With 8.7% of newborns being underweight, the cyclical nature of malnutrition becomes evident. Tragically, while overweight prevalence among children under five stands at 2.5%, an astounding 12.6% of infants are born underweight.

The Far-Reaching Impact of Malnutrition:
The repercussions of malnutrition are multifaceted and long-lasting. The BCG foundation reports that a staggering 25% of child deaths in Zimbabwe can be attributed to malnutrition. The long-term consequences include stunting, wasting, cognitive impairments, and physical ailments. Anemia, leading to fatigue and breathlessness, is another significant outcome.

Homely Remedies to Combat Malnutrition:
To alleviate the immediate effects of malnutrition, several dietary recommendations have been made:

  1. Enhance consumption of nutrient-dense foods like fruits, vegetables, and grains.
  2. Prioritise protein-rich foods including beans, lentils, and nuts.
  3. Incorporate healthy fats from avocados, seeds, and nuts.
  4. Boost iron intake with red meat, poultry, fish, and leafy greens.
  5. Consume vitamin C-rich foods like citrus fruits to aid iron absorption.
  6. Strengthen the immune system with zinc-rich foods such as oysters and beef.
  7. High-Protein Porridge: A nutritious blend of groundnuts, millet, and maize offers essential proteins.
  8. Moringa Leaves: These nutrient-packed leaves can be consumed as vegetables or powdered supplements.
  9. Local Fruits: Baobab (Mauyu) and guavas are vitamin-rich and readily available.
  10. Legumes and Small Fish: These provide protein and can be combined with grains for balanced nutrition.

While these remedial measures can offer some respite, a holistic approach is imperative. Increased agricultural investment, broader social safety nets, heightened nutrition awareness, and healthier dietary habits can pave the way for a brighter, nourished future for Zimbabwe’s children.

Remain In Parliament, Mzembi Exhorts CCC

Knowing the trappings of power no matter how limited or minute it is , and how harzadous materially , psychologically, financially, maritally & emotionally to acquire that little power , prestige and status , its futile to ask Opposition Senators, MPs and Councillors to do a mass pullout even when they are faced with further Recalls . I will be damned if they do.

Power is not relinquished like that in Zimbabwe where there are limited alternatives, even the People that employed you in the first place, the voters are very unkind with representation that gives up seats .

Professor Ncube Sparks Controversy As Intra-Party Turmoil Grips CCC

By A Correspondent| The Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), Zimbabwe’s prominent opposition party, is currently embroiled in internal strife following a controversial tweet by Professor Welshman Ncube, a former Vice President of the Movement for Democratic Change Alliance (MDCA) and key figure within the party.

Yesterday, Professor Ncube responded to a question on whether he is in the leadership of CCC with an answer that has sparked controversy within the movement.

“As of 22 Jan 2022, I was VP of MDCA, which on that date by resolution of its National Council resolved to reconstitute itself as CCC and participate in the March 2022 by-elections under that name. At that meeting, the National Council didn’t resolve to dissolve itself.”

This tweet has ignited a firestorm of confusion and accusations within the party, with some members alleging that Professor Ncube is bitter about the restructuring and is allegedly behind Sengezo Tshabangu’s mission to recall legislators and councillors elected on a CCC ticket.

Tshabangu’s actions have reportedly played into the hands of the ruling party, Zanu PF.

The internal conflict centers on the interpretation of the National Council’s resolutions and the direction the party should take in light of the upcoming by-elections.

While some party members argue that the National Council’s decision did not include a dissolution clause, others believe that a restructuring of this magnitude inherently implies a dissolution of the MDCA.

Sengezo Tshabangu, who has been actively involved in recalling legislators and councillors, has become a divisive figure within the CCC, with some accusing him of being a Zanu PF puppet.

The confusion surrounding the party’s internal dynamics has led to concerns among supporters and stakeholders about the unity and effectiveness of the CCC as they seek to remain a force post the Tshabangu skirmishes.

I Know The Pain, Mliswa Speaks On Ngarivhume Release After 8 Months In Jail

By A Correspondent| In a series of tweets, former Norton legislator Temba Mliswa expressed his concerns over the recent release of Jacob Ngarivhume, who spent six months in detention.

Mliswa described Ngarivhume’s release as the latest example of what he perceives as “unbelievable levels of persecution” in the country.

Mliswa, drawing on his own experiences, revealed that he had been arrested over 70 times.

He empathized with the pain that such ordeals bring, acknowledging that, over time, individuals can become desensitized to the point where they “don’t care what happens next,” leaving their fate in the hands of a higher power. He emphasized the need for individuals to possess a strong character to withstand such pressures, acknowledging that not everyone may be as resilient.

The former legislator appealed for professionalism among law enforcement officers and authorities, urging them not to become pawns in what he described as “painful political games.” Mliswa warned that the consequences of such actions can linger even after retirement, emphasizing the long-lasting impact on individuals’ lives.

Turning his attention to Jacob Ngarivhume, Mliswa expressed deep respect, hailing him and Job Sikhala as “true warriors” in the face of adversity. He commended their commitment to standing up for their beliefs and labeled them as true leaders who prioritize the well-being of the country over political affiliations.

Mliswa concluded his series of tweets by emphasizing the importance of prioritizing the interests of the nation over political allegiances. He welcomed Jacob Ngarivhume back, acknowledging his resilience and commitment to the greater good.

“God is pleased with ED win”: Wutaunashe

By A Correspondent- Zimbabwe Indigenous International Council of Churches (ZIICC) Chairman Andrew Wutaunashe has said God is pleased President Emmerson Mnangagwa won August’s elections.

Wutaunashe, who founded and leads the Family of God (FOG) church, was speaking at Wednesday’s National Day of Prayer held at State House in Harare.

He is one of a number, especially apostolic sect leaders who openly aligned and allied with Zanu PF ahead of the contested General Elections which he said in his speech were free and fair.

“The church is thankful that God gave us free, fair, and transparent elections and we thank God that the work he started through you and the Second Republic can now continue,” said Wutaunashe.

“It has pleased God that you continue leading the nation. We continue to pray for you that you are given health and life and you are guided as you lead the nation.”

Zimbabwe’s elections were marred by anomalies that included delays in availing voting material in perceived opposition strongholds, voter intimidation, unfair access to publicly owned media, and bans on over a hundred Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) rallies in the run-up.

Election Observer Missions (EOMs), including the SADC, European Union, and The Commonwealth condemned how the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) managed the poll.

Mnangagwa showered praises on the church in a speech inundated with Bible verses and calls for an end to targeted restrictions which he said were affecting development.

“We must continue defining and controlling our destiny. This is despite the clandestine machinations of those who have sought to hinder our progress and development, including the illegal sanctions designed to cripple our economy,” said Mnangagwa.

“I commend the resilience and hard work of our people, the private sector and other stakeholders. Our nation is a testimony that in every circumstance when facing plenty or lack, abundance or need, we can do all things through Jesus Christ who gives us strength, Philippians 4 vs 12-13.

“Both our rural and urban communities must be urged to work harder in their respective areas for increased production and productivity. According to Psalms 90 vs 17, the Lord our God will establish the work of our hands.”

Gvt drags feet on devolution

Government is still working on legislation and policy guidelines on devolution years after its introduction to ensure transfer of powers and responsibilities from central government to provincial and metropolitan councils and local authorities.

Local Government and Public Works minister Winston Chitando revealed this when he made his virtual presentation during a devolution workshop held in Bulawayo yesterday.

He said government decided to introduce devolution as espoused in the Constitution, adding that authorities had underscored the need for the country to fully embrace it to facilitate rapid economic growth.

“Currently, we are in the process of implementing devolution as prescribed by the Constitution. Devolution will see the transfer of powers and responsibilities from the central government to provincial councils, metropolitan councils and local authorities,” he said.

“The powers and responsibilities to be devolved include powers to formulate budgets and implementing them effectively and on time in order to produce the requisite services.

“All the decision-making powers pertaining to the planning and implementation of provincial development projects and programmes will be vested in councils themselves.”

Chitando said communities would have participatory democracy, deriving benefits from the exploitation of resources in their areas.

“The constitutional provisions on devolution are yet to be fully implemented, subsidiary legislation and policy guidelines are still being crafted. In the same vein, citizens have high expectations on the prospects of devolution to improve transparency and accountability,” Chitando said.

He said devolution had been implemented since 2019, adding that government was committed on supporting areas such as water, sanitation and hygiene and the construction or rehabilitation of roads, schools and clinics, among other projects.

“It should be noted that this has created thousands of jobs for the youths and the government has so far injected billions of dollars into these programmes and projects to date.

“These infrastructure projects being implemented have tremendously improved the living standards of the majority of the people who mainly reside in the rural areas.

“During the year, the Thematic Working Group engaged development partners, namely, the United Nations Development Programme for technical and financial support,” Chitando further noted.

However, Speaker of National Assembly during the Government of National Unity Lovemore Moyo said the delay in implementing devolution was not a coincidence, but deliberate act by the ruling Zanu PF regime.

“It’s abundantly clear that the Zanu PF regime does not fully subscribe to a nationally devolved system of governance as espoused in the Constitution,” he stated. “In fact, it prefers a centralised system of governance, which allows monopoly and looting of State resources.

“Consequently, the government’s legislative agenda excludes the enactment of an Act of Parliament that will fully operationalise devolution.”

He said government preferred to continue manipulating devolution processes.

“Accordingly, people are extremely disappointed that the government continues to pay lip service to the implementation of devolution, and there’s no comprehensive framework in place since the adoption of the new Constitution in the year 2013,” he said.

FULL TEXT- Presidential spokesperson threatens Pashor Sibanda

SITUATING PASHOR SIBANDA: PASHOR is not important as a person; if anything, he is a mere deviant boy who is yet to secure any form of employment in his life.

PASHOR is important as an incarnation of Triple C’s desperate rethink, buttressed by resolutions of what is termed the Southern AfricaHuman Rights Defenders’ Network which held its “summit” in Namibia from 22 to 24 November, 2023.

At that meeting – which the State covered – there was a decision to change tact towards more confrontational politics, with Triple C getting direct funding, as happened to MDC during Tsvangirai days, and to Hichilema’s UPND before the Lungu defeat.

More important, a decision was taken to found a more youthful and militant leadership for the opposition, with four names suggested as foremost. I shall have occasion to reveal them. A follow-up meeting was scheduled for 5th December, in Lusaka, Zambia.

Again, I will apprise at an appropriate time. Essentially this Western outfit is a Third Force in the making, which is why Chamisa is very worried.

It threatens to supersede him, forcing him to go suicidal through dull brawn actors like Pashor and Mkwananzi.

Of course these boys of brawn will soon learn – like the proverbial burnt child – to dread fire!!!! Ndapedza; vanzwa vatonzwa!!!!!!

“To pull out or not” CCC turns to citizens

By A Correspondent- The Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) yesterday said it was consulting its supporters on the way forward as it mulls pulling out of Parliament in protest over the “sham” December 9 by-elections.

CCC candidates belonging to the main faction led by Nelson Chamisa were barred from contesting in the by-elections which were prompted by the party’s self-proclaimed interim secretary-general Sengezo Tshabangu after he recalled more than a dozen CCC Members of Parliament elected in the August 23 and 24 harmonised elections.

Zanu PF bagged seven out of nine contested seats which were previously under the CCC.

CCC spokesperson Promise Mkwananzi told journalists yesterday that the party’s highest decision-making body, the citizens national assembly, had resolved to consult its supporters on the way forward.

The assembly resolved not to recognise the unlawful conduct and outcome of the December 9 by-elections and directed the appropriate bureaus to seek the setting aside of the charade,” Mkwananzi said.

“The assembly resolved to further consult the citizens on the party’s continued participation in Parliament and local authority. There are processes that are going to be unveiled to complement the parliamentary processes.

“Importantly, we are going to see a lot of activities in constituencies that were denied the opportunity to vote for the candidates of their choice.”

He added: “There are going to be activities taking place there,  with voters demanding the right to vote and demanding their MPs back and demanding that if there is a by-election, people have a right to be voted for.”

CCC lawyer and Hatcliffe legislator Agency Gumbo said the party would also not abandon court processes despite expressing concerns over the Judiciary’s handling of its cases.

“The position that we have taken as a party is that we shall not abandon the legal processes in the quest to resolve the ongoing issues around capture of the people’s will and restoring the democratic tendency in this country,” Gumbo said.

“We believe in the courts as the institutions of the Constitution. We believe in constitutionalism and we have the right to make comments where we believe there is an overarching effect of the Executive in the Judiciary.”

Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission yesterday gazetted the legislators who won in the December 9 by-elections.

Another set of by-elections is scheduled for February 3.

Murder suspect acquitted

By A Correspondent- A murder suspect Tafadzwa Mudavanhu has been acquitted by the High Court in a case he was accused of killing a passenger.

Mudavanhu landed in the dock on allegations of killing one Spinora Kamungeremu in Budiriro three years ago.

High Court judge, Justice Rodgers Manyangadze cleared Mudavanhu at the close of State’s ruling that the case against him was too weak for a reasonable court to convict him.

It was alleged that on 19 October, 2020, he struck Kamungeremu dead with a brick at a shopping centre in the Budiriro suburb of Harare.

Prosecutors were alleging that on the day in question, Kamungeremu was at Current Shopping Centre, Budiriro 5 B.

He was in the company of his two friends, Elia Svova and Jephart Chizura.

They were in Chizura’s motor vehicle which was parked at the shopping centre.

Kamungeremu left the vehicle for a nearby supermarket.

Whilst he was away, a lorry driven by one Darlington Bvindi rammed into Chizura’s vehicle.

Chizura confronted Bvindi, who appeared to have been drinking.

An argument erupted between the two, over the latter’s alleged drunk driving.

Kamungeremu then returned to the car.

Bvindi attempted to flee before the deceased tried to block him.

Mudavanhu was accused of having picked up a brick and struck the deceased once on the head.

The deceased lost consciousness and was ferried to Parirenyatwa Hospital, where he died on 3 November 2020.

To substantiate these allegations, evidence was led from Elia Svova, Jephart Chizura, Addmore Musiza, Decent Shuche and Bernard Kaiche.

Musiza and Kaiche were police officers.

Svova said after the altercation a mob responded.

He said Mudavanhu was in front of this mob and was the one who attacked his friend.

Chizura said the name given as that of the assailant was Chamunorwa Bvumba.

He is said to have hit the deceased with a beer bottle on the head.

The officers also said it was Bvumba who assaulted the deceased.

The judge however ruled there were serious and unresolved contradictions in the key witnesses’ statements.

“This left the investigation officer, and even the OIC, in grave doubt as to whether it was the accused or Bvumba who assaulted the deceased.

“What this means is that they submitted a docket for prosecution which they did not have confidence in.

“The prosecution had no easy task adducing evidence from the various witnesses it called.

“They simply could not explain the shift from Chamunorwa to the accused as the suspect in this matter.

“The evidence became so manifestly unreliable that the only reason for putting the accused to his defence is to get him convicted through self- incrimination,”said the judge.

“This case had an unusual number of police witnesses.

“Of the five witnesses who took the witness stand, three were police officers involved in the investigation of the case in one way or the other.

“As already indicated, all the officers were puzzled as to why their supposedly key witnesses, being the two civilian witnesses, ended up saying it was the accused who assaulted the deceased with a brick, when initially they had said it was Chamunorwa who assaulted the deceased with a beer bottle on the head.”

Chamunorwa’s whereabouts, up to the time of the trial, remained unknown.

The judge also noted that Bvindi was never placed under arrest as he managed to escape soon after the offence.

Sikhala challenges state over witnesses

By A Correspondent- Former Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) legislator Job Sikhala says he was never in Nyatsime, Chitungwiza, on the day violence broke out at the funeral of slain opposition party activist, Moreblessing Ali.

Sikhala, who has been in remand prison since June 2022, is being charged with inciting public violence to avenge Ali‘s murder.

He is being jointly charged with former CCC legislator Godfrey Sithole. They both appeared before Harare magistrate Tafadzwa Mhiti for trial continuation yesterday.

Sikhala and Sithole are being represented by Harrison Nkomo, Jeremiah Bhamu  and Oliver Marwa.

Sikhala challenged the State to bring witnesses who saw him driving to Nyatsime area on the day in question.

He denied instructing any member of the public to cause violence.

Sikhala said he had no idea of the identity of the owners of the vehicles which are alleged to have ferried people to Nyatsime to commit violence.

The court heard that State witnesses  are failing to prove how Sikhala was linked to alleged videos in which he is said to have incited public violence.

Sikhala questioned why the State was failing to produce the WhatsApp number which posted the videos in question.

He said State witnesses were giving different versions on the length of the videos.

The duo is being accused of inciting public violence by posting videos encouraging party supporters to avenge Ali’s death.

According to the State, they hired lorries to ferry people to Nyatsime to commit violence.

Ali’s dismembered body was found stashed in a disused well at a plot owned by the mother of her murderer, Pius Mukandi alias Jamba who was recently convicted at the High Court.

The matter was postponed to December 19 for trial continuation.

Mzembi, Kasukuwere Criticize China’s Weapon Donation to Zimbabwe

By A Correspondent| Former Foreign Affairs Minister Walter Mzembi and disqualified 2023 presidential candidate Savior Kasukuwere have both taken to social media to voice their shared concerns over China’s recent donation of weapons to Zimbabwe.

Mzembi took to X to convey his disapproval of China’s decision to supply weapons to Zimbabwe.

He drew a vivid analogy, stating, “A friend who arms you with spears and knobkerries when your house is in conflict is a very bad friend. Any loss of life, injury to your children & family, he will be held responsible!”

Mzembi further emphasized the irony of accepting weapons from a friend while simultaneously taking away the family silverware.

He suggested that this act contradicts the expectation of friendship and support, especially when the children are hopeful for intervention and reconciliation from the influential friend.

“The irony is you are taking the family silverware from the same, and you bring to the same father weapons, where the children are actually expecting you as a friend to the father who bears the greatest influence to intervene and reconcile them with their dad,” Mzembi tweeted.

Responding to Mzembi, disqualified 2023 presidential candidate Savior Kasukuwere expressed skepticism about the appropriateness of the weapon donation in the context of internal conflicts, stating, “You mean they have received new knobkerries for disciplinary process in the feuding Dzimbadzamabwe! No flowers ? but bullets and tankers.”

Kasukuwere emphasized the need for support in crucial development areas rather than the provision of weapons.

“We need support for irrigation development, technology transfer, health delivery support and not lithium for slings and bullets,” he remarked, underscoring the importance of focusing on sustainable development, technology advancement, and healthcare.

“Local banks fleecing depositors”

By A Correspondent- Local banks are reportedly fleecing depositors through high bank fees and exorbitant withdrawal fees of about 3% of the amount being withdrawn from 1% charged a few months ago.

Depositors are also being charged about 2.5% for withdrawals done on Automated Teller Machines.

The government is concerned that this would discourage people from making bank deposits and has warned financial institutions against the practice.

quoted the permanent secretary in the Ministry of Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion, George Guvamatanga, as saying:

Banks please, your charges [are exorbitant]. Someone commented that we no longer have banks in this country but we now have real estate companies masquerading as banks

Banks are collecting rent from customers every month.

[Banks now say], you have an account where you pay me a rental of U$25 every month and or US$20 every month.

When you withdraw US$100 000 for example, there is a 2% -3% commission, and other charges, you walk away from the bank with US$97 000 so the question is are we encouraging depositors to bank their money?

There is always an argument that there are different accounts, there is a deposit account, and savings account but look at ways of encouraging the depositors to have their money in those accounts which do not attract this US$25 or US$15.

Guvamatanga demanded that banks slash their charges and desist from “robbing” depositors. He said:

I think the other place where there is almost robbery is with your own Visa and Master cards, those foreign cards.

You deposit your money and you attract a commission for depositing your cash.

I pledge with you to sit down within the remaining two weeks of this year and when you come back in January 2024, whilst still in office so that when you come back your charges should encourage people to put their money into the bank.

Banks are the biggest problem as far as confidence is concerned because they are all focusing on this non-funded income instead of the core business that you lend and you get interest.

I was looking at the financial results [banks], and most are now at 60%/70% non-funded income.

I know they (banks) have restructured their businesses with a 70% non-funded income that’s not achievable anywhere in the world.

It shows that the cost of banking in this country is just too high. It’s something we have not spoken about. I hope banks will look at it and make adjustments.

De-Mob Season is Over, CCC Threatens?

Hatcliffe legislator Agency Gumbo Issues Stark Warning

By A Correspondent| In a decisive and resolute tweet shared on X, Hatcliffe legislator and legal counsel to the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), Agency Gumbo, declared an end to what he termed the “De-Mob Season.”

This proclamation came in the wake of a CCC National Consultative meeting convened to strategize on the way forward in response to the tumultuous political developments affecting the Nelson Chamisa-led faction due to recalls.

“Political parties are established to gain political power, not relinquish it! Our pursuit of legitimacy and democracy in this nation is intensifying, and this struggle extends beyond the confines of Parliament or Council. It is deeply rooted within the masses. The De-Mob season is officially over!” Gumbo’s tweet emphatically declared.

The CCC now faces extensive deliberations on the most prudent course of action in the face of ongoing challenges orchestrated by Tshabangu, who, with the support of the judiciary, continues to disrupt Chamisa’s party.

While some advocate for the CCC’s withdrawal from parliament and local authorities as a protest against state interference, an equal number argue against such a move, emphasizing the importance of persisting to represent the electorate who chose the movement.

The internal debate underscores the complexity of the decisions ahead for the CCC in navigating the political landscape.

Moyo’s Shallow & Desperate Political Stunt On The Tshabangu Zimdaily Cartoon Will Fool No One!

By Brighton Mutebuka

  1. There can be nothing more incendiary than an undeserving individual who seeks to exploit & profit from an incident where agency only exists by reason of being contrived.
  2. You are clearly pulling Tshabangu’s strings in the background & working to unashamedly advance the current incumbent’s political agenda.
  3. It is a matter of public record that the party that you currently support and its leader stand accused of having committed egregious human rights violations against the same region during Gukurahundi & carrying out decades long policies which marginalise, offend, humiliate and discriminate against the region, amongst other things, to such an extent that some accuse it of treating them as second class citizens.
  4. Is there any more contempt that can be displayed against a people than joining hands with a much despised incumbent to criminally reverse their electoral & democratic choices via the representatives that they elected in Parliament to replace them with the regime’s to facilitate an extended stay in power?
  5. @ZimDaily
is a corporate body & separate legal personality with the capacity to sue and be sued in its own name. It has rightly taken responsibility for its oversight committed in a febrile political environment.
    @CCCZimbabwe
‘s agency has not been established in your rant.
  6. The idea that the threshold for establishing agency in this context can simply be met on the basis of an editorial policy which is favourable to a political organisation or any other entity is desperately shallow, misinformed, mischievous and preposterous.
  7. You should be appreciative of the fact that
    @ZimDaily
has apologised. When was the last time you demanded an apology from ED? Have you apologised for your long & destructive association with ZANU PF?
  8. Do you take responsibility, via your role in Tshabangu’s revolting saga – for causing rancour, division & disaffection across the national divide?
  9. Is it not you & Tshabangu who have sought to whip the Matabeleland region into a frenzy on account of false charges of fighting in its corner when you are pursuing narrow & selfish personal interests on behalf of the current regime?
  10. I am putting it to you that you are exploiting genuine grievances from the region, gas lighting them & using them as a Trojan Horse (while hoodwinking any gullible folks from the region who are prone to be emotive due to the sensitivity of the subject) to try & destroy
    @CCCZimbabwe
    for the regime’s benefit.
  11. Those who are truly concerned about national healing, unity and integration will see through this desperate and shallow political stunt for what it is – which is to drive a wedge between
    @CCCZimbabwe
and its Matabeleland base on the premise that it endorses the undertones portrayed by the cartoon / caricature.
  12. You and Tshabangu are playing a dangerous political game. You are playing with people’s emotions and your antics are clearly provocative and their effects will be far reaching – straddling many generations.
  13. Under your political stewardship, Tshabangu falsely claimed to be seeking to address long simmering regional grievances & to ringfence his shenanigans to that region only but what did he do? Using what mandate?
  14. So the cartoon should rightly be condemned but alongside you & Tshabangu for the roles that you have played in creating conditions which have provoked many peace loving Zimbabweans. Their ire should only be directed against you & Tshabangu, not the whole region! You clearly thrive on Schadenfreude. History has got a long memory. You will be held to account for your actions when the time comes! We will see if this sycophancy will be adequate to earn safe passage to Vene’s Kingdom!

Pastor Kasi: I Didn’t Pay Bribes To Get Law Practice Certificate

Pastor Admire Kasi and Ivy Kombo Deny Bribery Allegations in Law Practice Certificates Scandal.

Admire Kasi, and wife, Ivy

Agencies- Gospel musician Ivy Kombo and her husband, Pastor Admire Kasi, who are currently facing fraud allegations related to the purported illegal acquisition of law practice certificates through a $1,100 bribe, have vehemently distanced themselves from the accusations. The couple insists that they followed proper procedures and did not engage in any bribery.

Yesterday, during the ongoing trial, Kasi, represented by lawyer Mr Everson Chatambudza, cross-examined a key witness, Shorai Mupunga, a former employee at the Council for Legal Education (CLE). Kasi produced documentation demonstrating his legitimate acquisition of the certificate, stating that he applied in 2019 and received a letter from the council’s chairperson, Justice Slyvia Chirau, in 2022, granting him exemption from eight conversion examinations. He made the necessary payment on October 31, 2022, leading to the issuance of his conversion certificate.

Chatambudza argued that this process followed the proper legal channels, leading to a legitimate certification.

Mupunga, the witness, concurred with the defense’s position, acknowledging the apparent legitimacy of Kasi’s application process. She, however, maintained her earlier claim that she facilitated the issuance of certificates through monetary transactions involving Huggins Duri, the suspended executive secretary of CLE.

In her testimony, Kombo stated that she received her conversion certificate from CLE, signed by Justice Chirau, and had no reason to suspect any fraudulent activity as she underwent all required procedures. Her lawyer, Mr Admire Rubaya, emphasized that Kombo obtained her certificate from a reputable institution, arguing against her involvement in any investigative role.

The allegations suggest that the couple approached Mupunga, a CLE official, for assistance in registration and examination procedures. Mupunga allegedly liaised with Duri, offering to expedite the issuance of conversion certificates for a fee of $1,100. The couple purportedly paid this amount through Mupunga, leading to the processing of certificates indicating they had passed eight conversion subjects.

The trial is set to resume on Monday, with further cross-examination of the witness by Duri’s lawyer, Mr Oliver Marwa, who has taken over representation after other lawyers renounced agency.

Top Pastor Slams CCC For Remaining Inside ED’s Tshabangurized Parliament | ONE PARTY STATE

When respected lawyer Beatrice Mtetwa risked her life marching against the political imposter Sengezo Tshabangu she didn’t know that the CCC would ‘upset her wishes’ one day.

By Dorrothy Moyo | A leading pastor has criticized Nelson Chamisa’s CCC party, asserting that their recently announced resolutions sound as if they are aligning with Emmerson Mnangagwa’s ZANU PF party. Reverend Kenneth Mtata contends that the resolutions from the CCC’s Citizens’ National Assembly resemble those indicative of a one-party state.

Mtata’s comments come at a time when voters expected CCC MPs to withdraw from parliament as a gesture of disgust over the Tshabangu recalls, potentially undermining Emmerson Mnangagwa. Contrary to expectations, the CNA has resolved to take the opposite stance.

In a post titled “OPPOSITION KILLING MULTIPARTY DEMOCRACY?,” Rev Mtata expressed his concerns, stating:

  1. “I believe in MULTIPARTY democracy everywhere and in my own country.”
  2. “I recognize the challenging conditions under which opposition parties operate.”
  3. “However, this level of incompetence by CCC is an affront to MULTIPARTY democracy. These are not resolutions. What is going on here?”

It’s Another Bleak Christmas For Zimbabweans

Mr Mnangagwa How Can You Wish Zimbabweans A Restful Christmas When Country Is In A Mess?

REMARKS BY THE PRESIDENT, HIS EXCELLENCY, CDE. E. D. MNANGAGWA, AT THE FINAL CABINET MEETING OF 2023: STATE HOUSE

12TH DECEMBER, 2023

Honourable Vice Presidents, General (Rtd.) Dr. C.G.D.N. Chiwenga and Colonel (Rtd.) Cde K. C. D. Mohadi;

Honourable Ministers and the Attorney-General;

Chief Secretary, Dr. Martin Rushwaya

Distinguished Members of Cabinet, today’s Meeting is the last for this calendar year. You will recall that following our Party, ZANU PFs resounding victory in the 2023 Harmonised General Elections held in August, we were able to seamlessly continue with the business of Government.

This is testimony that our country continues to entrench constitutionalism, deepen democratic practices and improve bureaucratic efficiencies as we march forward towards Vision 2030 guided by our development philosophy, “Nyika inovakwa, inotongwa, inonamatigwa nevene vayo. Ilizwe lakhiwa, libuswe, likhulekelwe ngabanikazi balo”.

While much work lies ahead; we must continuously do more in our quest to modernize, industrialize and grow our economy while improving the quality of life for our people.

The growth of the economy notwithstanding, all Ministries must work harder for the achievement of impactful results in our various programmes and projects.

As such, Cabinet must now accelerate the implementation of National Development Strategy 1 so that our National Vision 2030 of “an empowered and prosperous upper-middle income society”, is attained much earlier. Your work is therefore, cut out for you.

Hence, Cabinet recess does not mean that we close our offices completely, Government business must not be disrupted and your availability to attend to issues, remain integral.

Meanwhile, I want to assure the nation that Government is closely monitoring the weather, with signs increasingly confirming the El-Nino prediction of a normal to below-normal rainfall season. Government is putting in place the necessary measures to mitigate the adverse effects of the undesirable weather phenomenon.

I, also wish to point out that the overriding principle of the Cabinet system is collective responsibility, which ties in well with the Whole-of-Government, Whole-of-Society Approach and our endeavor to leave no one and no place behind. To this end, we convened the Government High-Level Retreat on 14 September 2023 and thereafter, Induction Sessions for Ministers and Permanent Secretaries, were done.

These platforms have adequately unpacked the key tenets of collective responsibility, mandates and roles as well as my expectations thereto, towards ensuring that Government work is properly coordinated.

Recently, you also shared experiences with colleagues from the United Arab Emirates, as part of strengthening our administrative apparatus.

Bench-marking against best practices, we should therefore strive to be robust, agile, responsive and anticipatory in meeting the needs of the people as well as in responding to attendant challenges.

In terms of the specific Cabinet programmes, I am reasonably satisfied that we were able to go through most items set for this session. We should be able to conclude outstanding matters as soon as we resume.

Meanwhile, it is heartening to note that we completed all the Mid-Term Reports on the Third 100-Day Cycle Priority Projects, despite the changes in the nomenclature of various ministerial portfolios. This shows the continuity inherent in Government programming under the Second Republic.

I, however, call upon members to seriously look into matters which they wish to table during the forthcoming session. These should be aligned to the overall thrust I have outlined above.
Further, this exercise is crucial as it ensures that Cabinet discussions are more focused.

The Chief Secretary will soon issue the relevant Circular calling for items you may wish to put on next years Cabinet programme.

In 2023, it was displeasing that some items were not discussed due to non-submission of the relevant Cabinet Memoranda, this was, in spite of having been proposed for consideration by Ministers. Such oversights or dereliction of duty should not be repeated in the coming year.

Another critical area of concern is the increasing tendency by some Ministers to table substantive matters under “Any Other Business”. This practice must stop. Equally, the late submission of Cabinet Memoranda is retrogressive to constructive debate and to good administration, transparency, collective responsibility and accountability. Please adequately liaise with the Chief Secretary on such matters and be guided accordingly.

Be advised that, going forward, you are called upon to regularly undertake critical and succinct self-evaluation of programmes and projects under your portfolios, to inform focused and coordinated programming.

Ladies and Gentlemen;
The expectations on us to deliver are high after the new mandate to govern bestowed on us by the electorate in the August 2023 Harmonized General Elections. We must not be found wanting in this regard.

I also wish to thank the Chief Secretary and the Cabinet Secretariat for coordinating Cabinet exceptionally well, and urge them to continue consistently providing high-quality service.

With these remarks, I wish you all a restful and rejuvenating recess and a Merry Christmas and a Prosperous 2024.

God bless you all.
God Bless Zimbabwe.
I thank you.

Mnangagwa Blames Zimbabwe’s Struggles On God’s Will

Emmerson Mnangagwa has declared that Zimbabwe’s current state is a testament to the divine will of God. Speaking at the National Day of Prayer at State House, the President asserted that the nation’s trials, including Western sanctions, were part of God’s plan.

Despite facing economic hardships and international sanctions, Mnangagwa expressed confidence in the nation’s ability to overcome challenges, citing Philippians 4 Verse 12-13. He urged the people to define and control their destiny, standing strong against those hindering progress.

The irony of blaming God for the country’s dilapidated state while simultaneously emphasizing resilience against external factors did not go unnoticed. The President’s statements sparked mixed reactions, with some praising the emphasis on faith and others questioning the responsibility placed on divine intervention.

The National Day of Prayer, marked by heavy rains, took an unexpected turn as the President’s words added a layer of complexity to the event. Religious leaders and government officials joined hands in prayer, creating a scene of unity amidst the controversial remarks.

In a separate development, Zimbabwe received military support from China, valued at US$28 million. The aid aims to modernize the Zimbabwe Defence Forces and enhance the nation’s capabilities, particularly in addressing emerging global threats of terrorism.

The donation was accompanied by President Mnangagwa expressing gratitude to China for its consistent friendship. The military aid is seen as a continuation of the strong relations between the two countries, emphasizing mutual support and cooperation.

As Zimbabwe navigates both economic challenges and international partnerships, the President’s juxtaposition of divine influence and international support adds a layer of complexity to the nation’s narrative.

Incompetent Mnangagwa Demands Results From Own Ministers

PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa has challenged cabinet ministers to spearhead the industrialisation and modernisation of the country’s economy by accelerating the implementation of the National Development Strategy One.

The need for ministers to accelerate the implementation of NDS1 to grow the economy and transform livelihoods took centre stage during the last cabinet meeting of the year in Harare this Tuesday.

Addressing cabinet ministers at State House, President Mnangagwa said cabinet adjournment does not mean the close of government business.

“While much work lies ahead, we must continuously do more in our quest to modernise, industrialise and grow our economy while improving the quality of life of our people.

The growth of the economy notwithstanding all ministries must work harder for the achievement of impactful results in our various programmes and projects, as such cabinet must now accelerate the implementation of National Development Strategy 1 so that our national vision 2030 of “an empowered and prosperous upper middle-income society” is attained much earlier. Your work is therefore cut off for you. Cabinet recess does not mean we close our offices completely, government business must not be disrupted and your availability to attend to issues remain integral,” he said.

The head of state highlighted that a raft of measures is being put in place to cushion citizens against the adverse effects of climate change.

He added, “Meanwhile, I want to assure the nation that the government is closely monitoring the weather with signs increasingly confirming the EL Nino prediction of a normal to below normal rainfall season. The government is putting in place the necessary measures to mitigate the adverse effects of the undesirable weather phenomenon. I also wish to point out that the overriding principle of the Cabinet system is collective responsibility which ties in well with the whole of government, whole of society approach and our endeavor to leave no one and no place behind.”

President Mnangagwa noted that expectations are high for the government to deliver in the coming year.

“In 2023, it was displeasing that some items were not discussed due to non-submission of the relevant Cabinet Memoranda, this was, despite having been proposed for consideration by Ministers. Such oversights or dereliction of duty should not be repeated in the coming year.”

“Another critical area of concern is the increasing tendency by some Ministers to table substantive matters under “Any Other
Business”.

This practice must stop. Equally, the late submission of Cabinet Memoranda is retrogressive to constructive debate and good administration, transparency, collective responsibility, and accountability,” he said.

Zimbabwe has scored major milestones in wheat and tobacco production this year, while the El Nino-induced lean season has seen the government advocating for short-season varieties and expansive growing of traditional grains.

What You Need To Know About Drug Abuse

Dr Mavaza Accuses Chamisa Of Childishness | FULL TEXT

By Dr Masimba Mavaza | In 1998, upon his arrival, Nelson Chamisa found himself surrounded by like-minded individuals, sharing assumptions about Zimbabwe’s future. As the nation underwent significant transformations, the opposition, including CCC, failed to adapt, leading to a history marred by bloodshed. Despite commanding a majority in towns and contributing to Mugabe’s removal, the opposition, especially under Chamisa, struggled to deliver meaningful democratic change in the last 23 years, including the 5-year GNU period.

Chamisa’s attempt to unite the opposition resulted in increased division, isolation, and economic decline within CCC. The entrance of Sengezo Tshabangu exposed Chamisa’s weaknesses, marking the end of his political career.

The adage “give them authority and see how they treat subordinates” underscores Chamisa’s alleged failure during his ministerial career, characterized by complaints of abrasiveness and difficulty working with civil servants. His decision to sideline figures like Biti and Welshman NCUBE led to his political downfall.

Despite media attention and scandal, Chamisa’s political achievements remain notably absent, a fact not lost on his constituents who have run out of patience. The failure to implement democratic reforms during the GNU further tarnished his image.

The image of MPs fleeing Parliament during the opposition’s calamitous end underscores Chamisa’s apparent failure to grasp ZANU PF’s imminent success, with accusations of self-delegation of critical issues adding to the critique. Despite bullying and incompetence, Chamisa remains significant for representing failure.

Chamisa’s extensive role within CCC, holding various portfolios without adequate knowledge, raises questions about the party’s decision-making. Journalists question how CCC members allowed this situation to unfold.

Sengezo Tshabangu’s challenge to CCC, along with imprecise attempts to link him with ZANU PF, is labeled a political blunder. Despite the appearance of stability after an election, Chamisa’s failure as a politician became brutally clear, exacerbated by the polarizing algorithms of Twitter and Facebook.

Amid plummeting public trust in institutions and a bleak outlook for future generations, Mavaza calls for a distinct vision, asserting that lamenting populism or nostalgic sentiments is insufficient. February 2018 marked a turning point when members of the MDC party replaced TSVANGIRAYI with CHAMISA, leading to the departure of senior MDC leaders under Chamisa’s regime.

To navigate internal conflicts, CCC and Chamisa contemplate donating Sengezo Tshabangu to ZANU PF, a move Mavaza labels as characteristic of failed politics. The final blow to the opposition in Zimbabwe is witnessed, signaling the end of Nelson CHAMISA and his student politics.

In a bold move, Chamisa, known for his trademark failures, plans to establish a new political party with a purple color, hinting at a leader ready to form a new country in the face of challenges.

Mavaza-Mthuli Triumphs As Best African Finance Minister Of 2023

By Dr. MASIMBA MAVAZA | On December 8th in London, Finance, Economic Development, and Investment Promotion Minister Professor Mthuli Ncube secured the title of the best African Finance Minister of the Year. This achievement was further embellished as Mthuli was honored among the 100 Most Reputable People at the two-day Global Reputation Forum, Reputable Bank, and Fintech Awards in Westminster, England.

The award bears witness to Zimbabwe’s endeavors to break free from the web of poverty and propel itself into economic development. Professor Ncube graciously accepted his accolade, presenting a paper and delivering a keynote address at the forum. Notably, this recognition follows the acknowledgment by Reputation Poll International, commending the Second Republic for sustaining over three percent economic growth post the devastating Covid-19 era and sanctions.

Guided by President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, Zimbabwe navigated through economic free fall, deploying resources to combat the Covid-19 pandemic. Despite facing persistent propaganda and attacks, Professor NCUBE emerged as the best Finance Minister in Africa. Lord John Waverly, Chairman of Reputation Poll International, emphasized Mthuli’s ability to manage the Covid-19 crisis with minimal human losses despite a limited budget.

The Best Minister Award lauds government ministers demonstrating excellence in the public sector and successful initiatives for socio-economic advancement. Mthuli is now celebrated alongside finance greats like the late Bernard Chidzero for his daring and substantial microeconomic reforms, inspiring open debate and intellectual energy in the Treasury.

Mthuli’s acknowledgment in England was a testament to his national contribution. As he proudly received his award, flanked by the Zimbabwean ambassador to the UK, His Excellency Christian KATSANDE, Mthuli left an indelible mark in the halls of honor. Devoted to public service, Mthuli’s calm expertise and honesty guided Zimbabwe through the tumult of the global financial crisis, stabilizing the economy against all odds.

In financial services, Professor Mthuli earned praise not only for his achievements but also for being a gentle minister with a razor-sharp sense of humor. His success transcends personal glory, standing as a national achievement. Regardless of political views, Mthuli’s efforts during the financial crisis were pivotal in preventing Zimbabwe, if not the regional financial system, from collapsing.

Barely a year into his tenure, Mthuli navigated the worst financial crisis of the century, averting potential economic depression. Despite doubters and naysayers, Mthuli’s judgment was vindicated as he was voted the best minister in Africa. The Global Reputation Forum, Reputable Bank, and Fintech Awards celebrate officials effectively stimulating growth and stabilizing economies, recognizing Zimbabwe’s recent advances despite challenging circumstances.

Under Mthuli’s leadership, Zimbabwe’s economic profile significantly improved, witnessing a reduction in public debt and an enhanced credit rating. The country’s outlook upgraded from neutral to stable in the second half of the first term under the leadership of President Emmerson Mnangagwa and Finance Minister Mthuli.

Addressing a function attended by members of the House of Lords in the United Kingdom, Professor Ncube highlighted Zimbabwe’s steady economic growth and improved critical infrastructure under the Second Republic, even in the face of economic sanctions. The recent presentation of a (2024) Budget proposal aims to further improve Zimbabwe’s economy.

In an interview, Professor Ncube expressed his delight at being honored as the African Minister of the Year 2023 in the Global Reputation Poll. He emphasized the recognition of the Treasury team’s work in implementing economic policies and financial management, focusing on domestic resource mobilization to fund government programs.

Dignitaries at the high-level global forum included Bank of England’s Mr. Peter Kolade Fashesin-Souza, the Right Honourable Baroness Sandip Verma, Members of the House of Lords, global Transformational Expert Mr. Pierre Montersino, and Liberia’s senior adviser Mr. Joe Gene Mulbah.

Despite facing unwarranted criticism, Mthuli’s imaginative and courageous reforms significantly boosted Zimbabwe’s competitiveness and improved living standards. Zimbabwean economist Dr. R Sinyoro, commenting from the UK, applauded the award for validating President MNANGAGWA’s foresight in cabinet selection.

In conclusion, Mthuli’s recognition brings a pleasant Christmas surprise to Zimbabwe, underscoring his dedication to steering the nation toward economic triumphs.

Zim Dollar Collapses

By- The Zimbabwean dollar continues to lose value against the United States dollar, as reported by the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) in its recent Foreign Currency Auction.

The exchange rate on Tuesday was ZW$5,903.3898 per USD, compared to ZW$5827.7972 per USD recorded on December 5, 2023.

This depreciation of the Zimbabwean dollar has been ongoing since its reintroduction in June 2019, following a period of hyperinflation that led to its abandonment for ten years.

The continuous devaluation of the currency has resulted in macroeconomic instability, characterized by high inflation rates.
To address the collapse of the local currency and stabilize the macroeconomy, the government implemented various measures. One such measure was making it mandatory for certain taxes to be paid in Zimbabwean dollars, aiming to create demand for the currency and maintain its value. However, economists, like Tinashe Murapata, argued that this demand was only superficial.
Unfortunately, these measures have not yet yielded the desired results, and the economy remains unstable. There are concerns that the situation may worsen in the coming year. Nevertheless, the government assures the nation that it is taking necessary steps to prevent a further deterioration of the economy.
The continuous depreciation of the Zimbabwean dollar against the US dollar raises concerns about the purchasing power of individuals and businesses, as well as the overall economic stability. It highlights the need for effective measures and reforms to address the underlying issues and restore confidence in the local currency. The majority of workers, particularly government workers are paid in Zimbabwean dollars which means inflation will erode their incomes.

Zahara Was “Poisoned”

By- The family of the late Musician Zahara has said that a jealous relative could have poisoned the musician.

It’s reported that the Loliwe hitmaker was poisoned by a family member just days after or during her lobola negotiations.

Moreover, the family also believes that the singer was bewitched which led to her hospital stay. According to ZiMoja, a close family member opened up about what may have led to the singer’s health complications and ultimate hospital stay.

The source allegedly revealed that they suspect that Zahara was poisoned by one of her close relatives, supposedly at her lobola celebration.

Zahara’s fiancé, Mpho Xaba, had just paid off lobola for his bride, and their families came together to celebrate. However, just days after the festivities, the Umthwalo singer was sent to the hospital.

“A relative must have gotten upset after hearing that the Xaba family had returned to pay off the outstanding amount for lobola. We suspect that Zahara was either poisoned or muthi was put into her drink.”

Security Scare As Hail Storm Destroys Whawha Prison

By-A Hail storm has blown off the roofing of a section of Whawha Prison in Gweru, exposing the jail to possible escapes.

The officer in charge of the correctional facility, Superintendent Tineyi Makeredza, told ZBC News that prisoners had to be moved to buildings that remained intact. He said:

The heavy winds came at around 2 PM. They blew away the roofs of nine cells. Around 100 prisoners had to be moved to other cells.

Our carrying capacity is 1 200 and we already had 1 460 prisoners, meaning we were overcrowded already. The situation has been worsened by this unfortunate incident.

Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS) Midlands Province Deputy Officer Commanding, Assistant Commissioner Clemence Chigogo said:

It is a very sad situation that occurred at this prison. My officers are still quantifying the amount of loss incurred.

We also have around 20 families of officers whose houses were affected in the camp.

This is the second time we have experienced such as it also happened sometime in 2016.

We didn’t anticipate this and as such we need materials from the corporate world so that we rectify the problem.

Chigogo said that alternative accommodation for affected officers and families has since been provided.

Zimbabwe is experiencing increased rainfall activity, with most of the rainfall events violent in nature.

Weather forecasts are predicting rainfall almost daily until after Christmas for much of the country.
