Chamisa Takes Mudenda Head-On

By-The main opposition Coalition for Change has approached the courts challenging the Speaker of Parliament, Jacob Mudenda, to endorse the recalling of its 15 Members of Parliament by the party’s imposter, Sengezo Tshabangu. 

Many lawyers believe that the decision was unreasonable and are seeking to have it reversed.



Meanwhile, the constitutional court has already ruled that the Speaker’s role under section 129(1)(k) is not administrative but facilitative. It reads:

if the Member has ceased to belong to the political party of which he or she was a member when elected to Parliament and the political party concerned, by written notice to the Speaker or the President f the Senate, as the case may be, has declared that the Member has ceased to belong to it.

Police Speak On Fresh Elections Preparations

By- The Zimbabwe Republic Police has dismissed a press statement circulating social media that they were preparing for fresh elections.

According to the police, they were not preparing for any fresh elections in the country and the public has been urged to focus on developmental issues.
Investigations have so far revealed that the fake press statement was photoshopped, edited and endorsed with fake details for political reasons.
In a statement national police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said they have since launched investigations over the matter.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police dismisses a fake and doctored press statement issued by a criminal on alleged security situation in the country. The fake statement is dated 16th October 2023. The Police dismiss this fake or false statement with the contempt it deserves.
“For the record, the Zimbabwe Republic Police is not preparing for fresh elections. Inquiries have revealed that the fake press statement was photoshopped, edited and endorsed with fake details for political reasons. The Police urges the public to focus on the development of the country and avoid using social media to commit criminal offences under the guise of political activism,” he said.
Asst Comm Nyathi said the law will take its course on these criminal elements who want to promote anarchy in the country.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police is now conducting investigations with a view of arresting this criminal syndicate which issued the false and fake press statement in the name of the Zimbabwe Republic Police,” he said.

Grade 7s To Close After Exams

By-The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (MoPSE) has allowed Grade 7 students to leave school after completing their ZIMSEC exams.

 The circular which cancels Circular 17 of 2023, also allows planned and budgeted school trips to proceed as planned.

This was announced through a circular addressed to various education authorities and organizations, including Chief Directors, Provincial Education Directors, Teachers’ Organizations, and others involved in the education sector. It read:

RE: CANCELLATION OF SECRETARY’S CIRCULAR NUMBER 17 OF 2023 ON COMPULSORY ORGANISED LEARNING FOR PREPARING GRADE 7 PUPILS FOR THE PRIMARY TO SECONDARY TRANSITION

This Circular cancels Circular Number 17 of 2023 on compulsory organised learning activities post-Grade 7 examinations. The cancellation, therefore, means that Grade 7 pupils must be allowed to close school. Those schools that had planned and budgeted for educational school trips should proceed as such in conformity with Circular P.54.

The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has reversed a directive that required Grade Seven students to stay in school after their exams. The directive stated that the students were supposed to attend classes until the end of the school term. Authorities said this decision was made to address concerns about students having excessive free time, which could lead to issues like drug abuse and teenage pregnancies. The ministry said it aims to provide a structured learning environment and prevent negative behaviours during the post-exam period.

Mnangagwa Bootlicker Thrown Behind Bars

By- Political prostitute and President Emerson Mnangagwa bootlicker, Paddington Japajapa was this week thrown into prison to start serving a two-year jail term after the High Court rejected his bid to overturn his conviction and sentence for inciting public violence when the August 2018 elections results were being announced.

Japajapa went into a tirade denouncing the results by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) and threatened to call for chaos in the country. His utterances were considered inflammatory by the State leading to his arrest and prosecution.
He was tried and convicted of breaching the country’s electoral laws and hit with three years’ imprisonment but with one year suspended on condition of good behaviour after his release. Japajapa, who was represented by Gift Mutisi, approached the High Court on appeal.
A two-judge panel of then High Court judge Justice Felistus Chatukukuta, and Justice Pisirayi Kwenda siting as the appeals court on Monday rejected Japajapa’s appeal.
Immediately after rejecting the appeal, Justice Kwenda committed Japajapa to prison to start serving his jail term. In dismissing the appeal, Justice Kwenda noted that there was no compelling evidence for the High Court to interfere with the trial magistrate’s decision.
Japajapa was at the national command centre at Harare International Conference Centre, wearing full election observer’s regalia, when he was captured on a video clip addressing listeners out of the picture uttering the inflammatory words.
The video clip was uploaded onto the internet platform, YouTube.
During trial, Japapa denied the charge against him but admitted that it was him who appeared in the video. He, however, denied making the utterances attributed to him and sought to argue that the video was a “Photoshop” created by the State.
But after a full trial, the trial magistrate ruled that the video clip produced in court was authentic and credible for the State to rely on. On appeal, the High Court noted that Japajapa’s testimony was replete with contradictions to warrant the court’s acceptance of the decision of the trial magistrate.
The judges noted that Japajapa initially denied the charge that he had made the utterances attributed to him claiming the inflammatory utterances were added as “voice over” to his picture manipulated by the State to make it appear as if he had addressed a press conference and made the utterances.
After conviction, all that changed, as he confessed in mitigation that he uttered the words forming the basis of the charge “as a result of temptation and emotional stress”.
He sought to plead that his moral blameworthiness was reduced by the fact that he succumbed to temptation and the circumstances surrounding him.
“It does not make sense that the appellant would deny making the inflammatory utterances and in the next breath admit making them albeit innocently. It is either he uttered the words or he did not,” said Justice Kwenda ruling that the appeal against conviction lacked merit.
On sentencing, Japajapa failed to advance specific allegations of a misdirection that the sentence induced a sense of shock as he simply asked the court to substitute one at its own discretion.
So, the court found no misdirection in the manner in which the trial court approached the issue of sentence.
“It (trial court) settled for imprisonment because it was of the view that the appellant’s utterances had a strong bearing on the disturbances that occurred on the day following his inflammatory statements,” said Justice Kwenda.
The disturbances were widespread and violent and the judge noted that at the time Japajapa was a senior member of the MDC Alliance and he should have known that his utterances would have a real impact on his flock.
In her ruling in the trial court, Harare magistrate Mrs Learnmore Mapiye said Japajapa was accredited to monitor elections, but he ended up interfering with the announcement of results.
The trial court heard that on July 31, Japajapa held a press conference at a time election results were being announced by ZEC and threatened to call for chaos, claiming the elections had been rigged. Following the incitement by Japajapa, MDC-Alliance supporters violently stormed the city’s Central Business District in protest, leading to the destruction of property.

Messi Favourite To Win Ballon d’Or?

Lionel Messi is reportedly the favorite to win the Ballon d’Or later this month.

According to Spanish outlet Sport, the World Cup winner will pick his eighth honour to become the first player playing outside of the European top flight to take it home.

Mighty Warriors Coach In Sexual Harassment Storm

Mighty Warriors coach Shadreck Mlauzi was remanded in custody on charges of indecent assault.

Mlauzi, who was reappointed as coach at the end of last month having previously guided Zimbabwe to the 2016 Olympics, is being accused of indecently assaulting a female member of the technical staff.

The accuser reported the case to the Zimbabwe Republic Police after the team’s return from the COSAFA Women’s Championship in South Africa.

According to a complaint filed with the police, the first incident happened during the pre-tournament camp in Harare when the coach attempted to kiss her without her consent, but she refused.

The following incidents took place in South Africa during the tournament and this prompted the accuser to register her complaint to COSAFA Safeguarding Officer, leading to Mlauzi’s suspension in the following match.

The gaffer appeared in court on Tuesday charged with indecent assault and was remanded in custody until his bail hearing on Wednesday.

Chatunga In R10 Million Money Laundering Scam

By- An investigation by South African unit Amabhungane has uncovered potential money laundering involving the late President Robert Mugabe’s son, Bellarmine Chatunga, just before Mugabe’s ousting in a coup. The investigation revealed a series of illegal Hawala payments made to Bellarmine Chatunga Mugabe through an unnamed individual connected to Ewan Macmillan of the Gold Mafia exposé.

Hawala payments are illegal methods used to settle bills across borders to evade regulations and surveillance, NewZimbabwe.com reported. This method was previously exposed in the Gold Mafia investigation, in which Macmillan played a significant role, as reported by Al Jazeera’s Investigative Unit. Read the report:

Other tantalising entries in the Caydees books include a “BC Mugabe”, reflecting the initials of Robert Mugabe’s youngest son Bellarmine Chatunga Mugabe.

Thirteen payments totalling just shy of R10-million were made to this individual during the tumultuous lead-up to the ouster of the elder Mugabe from power in November 2017.

At the time there were outraged news reports of Bellarmine’s extravagant lifestyle in Johannesburg.

Amabhungane is expected to release a more detailed report on how the Mugabes shipped hard currency to South Africa. Mugabe’s other children, Bona and Robert Jr, have also faced legal issues. Bona was revealed to have acquired extensive land holdings, including farms, during a contentious divorce. Robert Jr has been involved in violent incidents, allegedly overlooked due to his association with the ruling party ZANU PF.

It is alleged that in November 2017 when Robert Mugabe was removed from power by the military and his former allies, including current President Emmerson Mnangagwa, two transactions worth R1 million were processed. Before that, in October, there were five batches of R1 million transactions and two batches of R500,000 transactions. The first R500,000 transaction took place in September.

Manyika’s ZANU PF Recalls Are Just Fake- Mavaza

FAKE RECALLS EMBARRASS THE OPPONENTS OF ZANU PF.

BY DR. MASIMBA MAVAZA | Zimbabwe recently witnessed a bizarre episode involving CCC’s delusions. In an attempt to sow chaos, the CCC fabricated a ZANU PF letter, invented their own ZANU PF Secretary General, and audaciously tried to recall all ZANU PF Members of Parliament. This action was not merely a jest; it was a calculated move to create confusion and later point fingers at the Speaker of Parliament for bias. The conduct of the CCC was not only immature but also illegal. The author of this document, if identified, should be apprehended and charged with treason. Their objective is to replace the entire parliament with their puppets.

If you examine the alleged recall letter, you’ll find numerous flaws. ZANU PF doesn’t have an interim Secretary General. We have a permanent Secretary General, Dr. Obert Mpofu. There is no faction within our party. This poorly written document reflects a party in disarray.

For clarity, it’s essential to introduce our Secretary General, also known as Secretary for Administration. This capable individual is Cde Obert, Moses, “Lobengula,” Mzandeki Mpofu, ZANU-PF NATIONAL SECRETARY GENERAL and Secretary for Administration. Cde Obert Mpofu is a decorated Liberation War Veteran, a former ZPRA guerrilla known as Cde Mzandeki. He is a methodical man who follows the party’s principles rather than acting impulsively.

Cde Mpofu hails from Jambezi in Hwange District, Matabeleland North Province, and joined the armed struggle in 1967 at the age of 16, crossing into Zambia. He underwent nine months of military training at the renowned Morogoro Camp in Tanzania and was later deployed to a ZPRA reconnaissance unit operating along the Zambezi River, frequently infiltrating Rhodesia.

Cde Mpofu possesses extensive political knowledge and experience from his roles as a Cabinet Minister in Zimbabwe, including:

– Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage
– Macro-Economic Planning and Investment Promotion
– Industry and International Trade
– Mines and Mining Development
– Transport and Infrastructure Development

Cde Mpofu is a celebrated author of several books and novels, far from being an interim Secretary General. Hence, it’s quite amusing that a CCC member, self-proclaimed as the interim Secretary General of Zanu PF, attempted to recall 70 Members of Parliament.

Tafadzwa Manyika has written a letter to Speaker of Parliament Jacob Mudenda, claiming that over seventy ZANU PF MPs have been recalled. The letter, poorly composed, exposes the fraud and forgery involved in the process. A party with a constitution cannot be dismantled by imposters; any recalls in ZANU PF must adhere to the party’s constitution.

Zanu PF Chief Whip Pupurai Togarepi stated that Manyika is an imposter. Unlike the CCC, the ruling party follows specific structures for all purposes, making this letter a regrettable attempt to sow confusion in Parliament. Manyika claimed to be a Zanu PF activist who recalled the 70 legislators. In ZANU PF, those responsible for recalls must adhere to clear party structures meticulously.

The Speaker of Parliament’s role is to formalize recalls within the legal framework, as he lacks the authority to impede political parties’ decisions. He can only validate legitimate recalls following established procedures.

We are reminded of the wise words of the President of Zimbabwe: “When an elephant moves, dogs will bark but cannot hinder the elephant’s progress.”

Zim Woman Suspended In UK For Posting Anti-Israel Comments On Private Instagram Account

Ofcom’s online safety supervision director has been suspended after anti-Israel comments were posted on her Instagram account.

Fadzai Madzingira’s private account posted messages after the Hamas attack on Israel on 7 October.

The Guido Fawkes website posted screengrabs of what appear to be posts from her account. One described Israel as an “apartheid state”.

Ofcom confirmed the suspension, “pending further investigation”.

In another post published on Guido Fawkes, Ms Madzingira appeared to like a post calling Israel and the UK a “vile colonial alliance”.

In a post published on Instagram Stories, she describes herself as a “Zimbabwean, a Black feminist, a student of decolonisation and a deep believer of liberty for all”, saying she has “one hope” before posting a Palestinian flag emoji.

The war between Israel and Gaza, which began last weekend, has killed more than 2,700 people in Gaza and over 1,400 Israelis.

On Monday Prime Minister Rishi Sunak told MPs that at least six Britons had been killed and 10 others were missing, including two teenage sisters.

After the prime minister’s statement – where he announced another £10m in aid to the Palestinian people – Conservative MP Sir William Cash called on the media watchdog to deal with the reports as a matter of impartiality.

Speaking in the House of Commons, Sir William asked: “Will the Attorney General be asked to provide a legal note, if not a full opinion, given for example that one of Ofcom’s directors… is reported to be supporting posts, this week itself, arguing that the Government’s support for Israel is a vile colonial alliance, referring to ethnic cleansing, and genocide of Palestinians?

“Ofcom must surely be told that it must deal with this at once as a matter of impartiality, quite apart from any criminal action that may be needed under terrorist or criminal law,” Sir William added.

Rishi Sunak said he would ensure the attorney general looks into it, adding that he endorsed “those describing these attacks calling them what they are, which are attacks of terror by a terrorist organisation”.

Zanu PF Ignores SADC Report On 23 August Polls, To Spend Millions on “Thank You” Rallies

By A Correspondent| Zanu PF has announced plans to spend millions of United States dollars on thank you rallies in all the 10 provinces of Zimbabwe despite question marks on how they were announced winners of the disputed 23 August polls.

Zanu PF National Commissar, Mike Bimha made the announcement saying they will start with Mashonaland Central where they bagged all the 18 parliamentary seats.

“Thank you rallies are a testament to the resilience of the Zimbabwean people,” Bimha declared.

“Despite facing immense pressure, our citizens stood firm, voicing their support for the ruling Zanu PF party,” added Bimha.

He went on to announce their intention to hold a national thank you rally in Mashonaland Central, the province that had secured all 18 seats, an accomplishment celebrated by the party. The details of the event, including the date and venue, were to be advised in the coming days.

CCC Approaches Court To Reverse Sengezo Tshabangu Mess

The main opposition party in Zimbabwe, the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) led by Nelson Chamisa, and the 15 recalled Members of Parliament (MPs) have filed a court application to challenge the decision made by the Speaker of Parliament Jacob Mudenda.

Many lawyers believe that the decision was unreasonable and are seeking to have it reversed.

Sengezo Tshabangu, who claims to be the interim Secretary General of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), sent letters to the Speaker of the National Assembly, Jacob Mudenda, and the Minister of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing, Winston Chitando, purporting to recall 15 CCC Members of Parliament (MPs) and councillors.

Tshabangu alleged that these elected officials were no longer members of the CCC.

Tshabangu is a former member of the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) founded by the late former Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai and People’s Democratic Party (PDP) a defunct party formed by former Finance Minister Tendai Biti.

Speaker Jacob Mudenda acted on the instructions and expelled the MPs from Parliament, exacerbating the political crisis that started with the disputed August 23, 2023 elections.

The CCC has called for fresh elections supervised by SADC, the African Union (AU), or the United Nation (UN), as they believe the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) is biased.

In protest of the recalls, the CCC disengaged from the National Assembly, Senate, and Local Government Authorities and issued a 14-day ultimatum for the recalls to be reversed, threatening to withdraw its members from Parliament.
The CCC party claims that Tshabangu is not a member and does not hold any official position within the party. Party leader Chamisa wrote to Mudenda, asking him to disregard Tshabangu’s communication regarding the CCC MPs. However, Mudenda still expelled the MPs from parliament.

Other journalists were wounded. We must try to stop the list of victims getting longer by the day.

ZIMSEC Copying From Chigumba’s Rigging Book, Forces Students Into Night Examination

CHEGUTU – Dozens of students at Mutimusakwa Secondary School in Chegutu were Monday forced to sit for their ordinary level examinations at night after officials from the Zimbabwe School Examination Council (ZIMSEC) delivered question papers late.

This was revealed by the Amalgamated Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ) which has been active in championing both teacher and student affairs in the country.

“ZIMSEC has failed to deliver question papers and answer sheets/booklets on time,” said the union.

“Students at Mutimusakwa School in Chegutu District were let down by the new system implemented by the education body.

“The English exam papers were forgotten and not made available. Students were forced to rely on torch light to write their exams in the middle of the night.”

Government recently introduced delivery of exam papers to various centres on the day of writing in an attempt to plug rampant exam paper leakages in the country.

The measures have been received with criticism by ARTUZ which feels authorities were applying cosmetic solutions to a deep-seated problem.

ARTUZ said it was appalled by the gross incompetence exhibited by the government examination body.

Union leader president Obert Masaraure also told ZimLive that candidates who were earlier informed they were sitting for their examinations at satellite centres were later redirected to totally different venues, forcing them to travel distances of up to 20km to the new centres.

“The anxieties associated with these delays affect learners particularly in rural schools,” Masaraure said of a bungled public examination system.

He added, “It is unacceptable to have learners walk up to 20km to write an examination.

“The schools have been doing exceptionally well on storage of exam materials; this change was ill advised and rushed.”

Examination candidates also shared their frustrations with the changes saying the bungled process weighed down on their mental preparedness.

“We would have revised and refreshed and in the mood to write but these delays really weigh down on us mentally,” said one Bulawayo student Tuesday.

“You get tired while waiting for a 2PM exam only to write it more than three hours later.

“This impacts on our grades. ZIMSEC must do better.”

The delay in delivery of examination papers is a carbon copy of similar delays in the delivery of ballot papers during the country’s disputed August elections with some polling stations forced to vote at night.

Zanu PF Holds Election Rigging Celebrations

By- Zanu PF has announced that it will hold “Thank You” rallies after this month’s Annual National People’s Conference.

The party is doing this knowing that it rigged the August 23, 2023, harmonised elections, which regional observers also condemned.

Briefing the media in Harare yesterday, Zanu PF National Political Commissar Mike Bimha said the party will hold victory celebrations across the country’s 10 provinces to thank the electorate.
“There will be thank you rallies in all the provinces.
“We had quite formidable forces against Zanu PF and these were not just local, but even beyond our borders and they were forces that really wanted to see regime change in Zimbabwe.
“Fortunately, the people of Zimbabwe have spoken and we would like to believe that they will continue to speak against those forces.
“We will have the thank you rallies throughout the country, but we will have a national one that will be held in Mashonaland Central, after winning all the 18 seats back to Zanu PF.
“We are still very excited and obviously when we romp to victory we want to celebrate and say thank you to the electorate for their participation.
“The elections are behind us; we are in a celebratory mood after having won resoundingly with majority seats in Parliament.
“Like we have been doing when we are victorious, we want to thank the people.”
Cde Bimha reiterated that the work of the ruling party is their manifesto hence the continued trust from the electorate.
The party, he said, will continue on a developmental trajectory aimed at improving people’s lives to levels of an upper middle-income economy by 2030.
Already the party has won the Makoni Rural District ward 33 rerun with Zanu PF candidate Cde Japani Maxwell emerging victorious.
“We are also quite excited that we have won. During the 2023 August harmonised elections, we had our candidate Cde Japani Maxwell coming out of the elections in a tie with the opposition candidate and because of that there was a need to have a re-run between the two candidates.
“We are excited that Japani Maxwell won in the re-run by garnering 60 percent of the total votes, showing that Zanu PF continues to be victorious and continues to dominate the political scene,” Cde Bimha said.
There are also upcoming by-elections in Kusile RDC ward 13, and Nkayi RDC Ward 11 in Matabeleland North Province, Ward 13 Vungu RDC, Midlands and Ward 23, Zvimba RDC, Mashonaland West.
Cde Bimha said the nomination papers for these by-elections have been filed successfully and the polls will be held on November 11.
The party, he said, will be having the official launch of its campaign for the Gutu West constituency by-election this Saturday where Vice President Cde Kembo Mohadi will officiate.
The campaign launch is meant to drum up support for Gutu West Zanu PF candidate Cde John Paradza, who is also the Deputy Secretary for Youth Affairs and will be battling it out with three other candidates from the opposition including Mr Ephraim Murudu of CCC.

ZANU PF Has No Structures At All

Fraudsters Nabbed

MORE than 50 job seekers have been left counting their losses after they were duped by a bogus international employment agent who allegedly swindled them of a combined US$40 000.

Dreams of working abroad have been shuttered for 53 health care students who lost cash to a suspected fraudster who had promised to secure employment for them.

Takunda Mcdonald Pfende aged 27 allegedly targeted students in their final year before each of the 53 students paid US$850 for a sponsorship certificate but nothing materialised.

The accused who was arrested after he failed to honour his end of the bargain was released on US$300 bail when he appeared in court this Monday.

Meanwhile, another suspected fraudster who left a home seeker counting his losses after losing over US$5 000 in a botched deal appeared in court this Monday.

46-year-old Danny Huruyadzo allegedly misrepresented to the complainant that he had two houses for sale in Dzivarasekwa before he received deposit for the properties.

The accused, however, became evasive before he was reported to the police and charged with fraud.

He was released on US$200 bail.

Still at the courts, a 25-year-old commuter omnibus conductor who allegedly killed a passenger after pushing him off a moving vehicle appeared in court this Monday charged with murder.

The altercation occurred after a misunderstanding over a torn US$ note.

He was remanded in custody to the 27th of this month for routine remand.

GOVERNMENT has emphasised the need for foreign diplomats to understand the separation of powers when analysing the actions of the Executive, Parliament and Legislature.

The call was made by the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Professor Amon Murwira when he briefed African diplomats on the internal political situation in Zimbabwe.

As he addressed African Union Ambassadors accredited to Zimbabwe, Professor Murwira dismissed claims that other arms of state and political parties are interfering with operations of Parliament.

This comes after 15 CCC members of the National Assembly were recalled as the party battles internal fighting.

“Government takes note of statements from the political outfit, whose members were recalled from parliament. The unfounded aspersions and outright falsehoods seeking to embroil government and the ruling ZANU PF Party in the recall processes, are without merit.

“For the avoidance of doubt and for the benefit of those unfamiliar with Zimbabwean laws, in terms of Section 129(1)(k) of the Zimbabwe Constitution, recalls of Members of Parliament are done by the political party to which the affected member belongs by way of written notice to the Speaker of the National Assembly or President of Senate, and not by Government,” he said.

He added, “Against that background, it is incorrect and downright deceit for any political formation so affected by recalls to blame it on the other. Simply, no other party enjoys such a standing or mandate over the other on matters of recall. Zimbabwean law enjoins the Speaker of the National Assembly and the President of the Senate (as Presiding officers) to promptly act on any and all communication from political formations brought before them with a view to effecting a recall. Neither official can or may cause, amend, or block any such communication once placed before them.”

He further maintained that there is no political crisis in Zimbabwe.

“It is a matter of public record that one presidential candidate in the just ended harmonised elections declared, well ahead of the polls and, brazenly in the presence of election observers and the media, that the candidate would not abide by any other result except one which “pronounced the candidate as the sole winner. Indeed this was the second such instance in which the candidate made such a declaration.”

“Sadly, violence ensued after such a declaration in 2018. This type of conduct is an attack on our democracy constitutionalism and the rule of law. Regrettably, some countries have tended to support this undemocratic conduct. As in previous instances, Government will not tolerate any actions aimed at disturbing the peace under the guise of “democratic political processes.”

Professor Murwira added that the country’s political body provides platform for dialogue.

“Zimbabwe’s body-politic provides for dialogue at all levels; in parliament, before, during and after elections. This spirit of dialogue crystallized into the Political Actors Dialogue (POLAD) at which all contesting parties and personalities meet regularly to engage in the national interest.

“This facility, which is meant to engender collaborative politics for national development, continues to be snubbed by one party and one player. In an attempt to dignify their falsehoods, the opposition claims that Zimbabwe has political prisoners. Government wishes to state categorically that there are no political prisoners in Zimbabwe,” he went on.

The Acting Foreign Minister reiterated the call for the removal of the illegal sanctions imposed on the country.

1/The SADC Final Report on Zimbabwe’s harmonised Elections is a powerful affirmation of the consensus that exists among the majority of Zimbabweans (both rural and urban) that the conduct of the August 23 Elections flagrantly violated the Constitution of Zimbabwe, Electoral Laws and SADC Guidelines and Principles on Elections.@SADC_News

/2 As the Report itself notes in its Recommendations and other sections, there are still outstanding recommendations from 2018 on the lack of impartiality of the key institutions. In addition to this, the Report itself highlights a litany of very serious and brazen breaches which result in SEOM concluding that the Elections fell short of the standards highlighted above.

/3 Given the above developments, based on the Report’s own findings, domestic remedies cannot be a credible response and are therefore clearly inadequate and incapable of resolving this long standing national crisis.

/4 For those reasons, the citizens of Zimbabwe will not rest until a permanent solution and lasting political settlement has been found to address all their long standing political grievances, pursuant to achieving a just, stable, peaceful, prosperous and democratic Zimbabwe

/5 No amount of bare denials, deflections, use of proxies, diversionary tactics, subterfuge and political side shows will take our eyes off the ball. Citizens are entitled to be led by a government which truly reflects reflects the will of the people having been chosen in a free, fair and credible election

Zimbabwe’s Prison Rehabilitation Efforts Acknowledged Amidst Ongoing Challenges

The Zimbabwe Prison and Correctional Services’ (ZPCS) commitment to rehabilitating prisoners has received recognition, even as the organization continues to grapple with challenges, including a shortage of accommodation for inmates. Deputy Minister of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, Nobert Mazungunye, undertook a tour of the Harare Central and Chikurubi Maximum Security Prisons to assess the progress made and identify areas that require attention.

ZPCS’s rehabilitation program has been instrumental in providing inmates with training that will be valuable upon their release from prison, fostering a path to reintegration into society.

Following his tour, Deputy Minister Mazungunye expressed his appreciation for the training provided to inmates. However, he also noted the challenges related to institutional accommodation for correctional services and the overcrowding of inmates. Additionally, financial constraints affect the implementation of various projects within the prison system.

The projects initiated within the prison system encompass a wide range of skills, including carpentry, mechanics, sewing, and welding. This approach reflects a shift in the ZPCS’s focus from mere custody to genuine rehabilitation. The primary objective is to equip inmates with the skills and knowledge needed for successful reintegration into society upon the completion of their sentences.

ZPCS Commissioner-General Moses Chihobvu emphasized the need for government support to address financial constraints related to running these projects, such as farming, which requires machinery and other resources.

Harare Central Prison’s Matron Chief Correctional Officer, Thembekile Thiili, provided insights into the healthcare services offered within the prison system. These services include a pharmacy section and a clinic for dependency and remand. The prison’s pharmacy is supported by NatPharm, primarily catering to individuals with gunshot wounds referred from Parirenyatwa Hospital. Furthermore, the clinic addresses tuberculosis infections, with a significant number of the inmates being HIV positive, emphasizing the importance of comprehensive healthcare within correctional facilities.

Chief Correctional Officer Chinofura Farai from the workshop department revealed that there are 35 vocational training centers designed to facilitate inmate rehabilitation through skill development.

The ongoing efforts to rehabilitate prisoners signify a shift towards a more holistic approach to criminal justice in Zimbabwe. Man Successfully By-Passes ZESA Metre

Harare Man Escapes Electricity Meter Bypass Charges After Demonstrating Regular Payments.

A Harare man, Godfrey Munyamana, has been acquitted of charges related to bypassing an electricity meter at his former residence in Borrowdale. The court’s decision came after a thorough inspection of the wiring at the house revealed that Munyamana had been consistently making payments to the Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC).

Munyamana had faced charges under the Electricity Act for allegedly stealing electricity over an extended period at his former residence. The allegations suggested that he had illicitly connected the house to the mains line of ZETDC without passing through a meter.

During the trial, the court accompanied Munyamana to his former residence in Bookview, Borrowdale, for an in loco inspection, where the state intended to demonstrate how ZESA cables were supposedly tampered with. The State even brought in a witness, ZETDC electrician Jawet Makuzha, to illustrate how electricity had been illegally consumed at Munyamana’s house.

However, the defense team presented evidence that challenged the accusations. Munyamana, through his lawyers, provided documentation showing payments made to ZETDC, which correlated with the energy he was alleged to have used illegally.

With this compelling proof, the defense filed an application for discharge at the close of the State’s case, contending that the State’s witnesses failed to produce concrete evidence of wrongdoing.

The court, after careful consideration, upheld Munyamana’s application for discharge at the close of the State’s case, leading to his acquittal of all charges.

This case originated two years ago when Munyamana sold the house. The buyer noticed discrepancies when attempting to purchase electricity for the property and sought clarification from ZETDC. This led to electricians being dispatched to inspect the property, eventually resulting in Munyamana’s arrest and subsequent charges. However, the evidence presented during the trial failed to substantiate the allegations against him.

Munyamana’s acquittal sheds light on the importance of thorough investigation and due process in legal proceedings, ensuring that individuals are treated fairly and evidence-based decisions are made.

Mnangagwa Wastes State Cash Again

Government will take delivery of 500 buses by next year, with 150 coaches set to be delivered by the end of this year, to add to its current fleet of 467, also as part of a comprehensive plan to boost the country’s mass public transport system.

The 500 vehicles will come in three sizes train coaches, conventional buses and minibuses to add to the current Zupco fleet of 467. The parastatal is also refurbishing its old buses, with 27 coaches having been completed to date.

Government is working on a multi-modal urban transport system, which will see rail transit, mass rapid bus system and also ensure that the entire value chain associated with the urban mass transport system is enabled, from fuel to supplies for spare parts for maintenence.

Gokwe Viciously Hit By Storm

Severe Storms Wreak Havoc in Multiple Zimbabwean Regions, Resulting in Losses and One Fatality

Severe weather conditions, characterized by heavy rains, strong winds, and thunderstorms, have left a trail of destruction in various parts of Zimbabwe, including Gokwe, Bulawayo, and the Midlands province. The inclement weather not only caused significant property damage but also claimed one life.

In Gokwe, the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works reported a tragic incident where one person lost their life after being struck by lightning, highlighting the life-threatening nature of the storm. Lightning strikes are a common occurrence during intense thunderstorms, underscoring the importance of taking precautions during such weather events.

Bulawayo, Zimbabwe’s second-largest city, experienced power outages on Monday evening due to the severe weather. In addition to the power disruption, the storm wreaked havoc on residential and agricultural areas. Wheat farmers in Umguza and Bubi districts, as well as other parts of the country, are now counting their losses as their crops were severely damaged.

The violent storm was marked by roofs being blown off houses, street lights collapsing, and trees uprooted, some of which fell onto homes, causing damage to roofing sheets, perimeter walls, and window panes. This resulted in distress for many residents, especially in suburbs such as Mzilikazi and Queens Park, where numerous houses were extensively damaged.

Residents of Mzilikazi recounted their harrowing experiences, with one resident, Ms. Gladys Chikore, describing how the storm caused significant damage to her home. “It was like someone was throwing stones on top of the roof, and the asbestos roofing cracked, and the debris fell inside the house, but fortunately no one was injured,” she said.

In Queens Park East and West, residents witnessed roofs being blown off and tree branches falling onto homes, causing damage to roofing sheets. “Some of these houses are old and cannot withstand the strong winds and heavy downpour,” explained Mr. Wallace Hungwe from Queens Park East. “The people that live in that house are so lucky to be alive because some of the debris fell inside.”

The situation was no different in Sauerstown, where a massive tree lay over a security fence, and several tree branches littered the streets, affecting electricity power lines. Meanwhile, in Harrisville suburb, a resident faced losses after a solar geyser was blown off by the strong winds.

In the Midlands province, the city of Kwekwe also bore the brunt of the storm. Several families narrowly escaped tragedy as trees fell on their houses, damaging roofs. Power outages persisted in some residential areas, including Msasa, Chicago, Mbizo, Amaveni, and Redcliff, causing further inconvenience.

Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) Southern Regional Manager, Engineer Gibson Kasipo, acknowledged the challenges and said, “True, we have several poles down and we are still assessing the impact of the storm. But, we are working flat out to ensure power is restored.”

As the affected regions grapple with the aftermath of the severe storm, recovery efforts and assistance to affected residents are underway, emphasizing the importance of preparedness and resilience in the face of unpredictable weather events.

Police: Ignore Fresh Elections

Zimbabwe Police Deny False Election Preparation Announcement.

In a swift response, the police have labeled the statement as false and suggested that it was likely doctored for political purposes.

The fake press statement, dated October 16, 2023, had purportedly indicated that the police were gearing up for new elections, sparking concern and confusion. However, the police have clarified that they have no such plans and called on the public to remain focused on developmental matters.

National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi has confirmed that investigations have been launched into the matter. He stated, “The Zimbabwe Republic Police dismisses a fake and doctored press statement issued by a criminal on alleged security situation in the country. The fake statement is dated 16th October 2023. The Police dismiss this fake or false statement with the contempt it deserves. For the record, the Zimbabwe Republic Police is not preparing for fresh elections. Inquiries have revealed that the fake press statement was photoshopped, edited and endorsed with fake details for political reasons.”

Moreover, Assistant Commissioner Nyathi warned against the misuse of social media for criminal purposes under the guise of political activism. He assured the public that the law would take its course on individuals attempting to promote anarchy in the country.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police is now conducting investigations with a view to arresting this criminal syndicate which issued the false and fake press statement in the name of the Zimbabwe Republic Police,” he added.

Former Warriors Star Faces Arrest

Tenax coach Luke Petros is facing arrest after punching the referee at the end of his side’s Eastern Region Soccer League match against Grayham at Chiremba Stadium on Saturday.

The former Warriors striker punched referee Blessing Tauro on the nose after the final whistle, accusing the match official of not awarding Tenax a late penalty.

The aftermath of the match, which ended goalless, was marred by violence as Tenax players took turns to assault the referee and his two assistants, according to match commissioner Ian Karoto’s report.

“When the referee blow the whistle to end the match at 90 minutes, Tenax FC technical occupancy walked into the field shouting abusively to Tauro the referee. Coach Luke Petros punched a fist to the referee, I also identified Bumbate Sam who was wearing jersey number 16 jumping to the referee,” reads part of the report.

“As the police was trying to calm the situation, I identified Mathew Wuraya and other player chasing the two assistant referee Chirigo and Mujoni who went and hide in the local. After the situation was calm we had to regroup at Ruwa police station. Tauro identified Luke Petros, Bumbate Sam no16, Jukulile Takudzwa no8. All were reported to police.”

Residents in Ruwa had to shield the match officials, who then reported the matter to the police, leading to the opening of a docket.

Mlauzi faces two counts, with accusations of inappropriate advances towards the complainant on separate occasions.

The first count relates to an incident in which Mlauzi allegedly attempted to kiss the complainant without her consent, which she refused. The second count alleges that he instructed the complainant to report to his hotel room and massage him, an action she also rejected.

The Special One Leaves AS Roma

Jose Mourinho is reportedly heading into the final months of his tenure as Roma coach.

Mourinho signed a three-year deal in the capital in 2021, so his current agreement with the Giallorossi expires at the end of the season.

According to Sky Sport pundit Gianluca Di Marzio, there haven’t been any talks involving Roma and Mourinho to rediscuss the manager’s future.

“It won’t happen.” Marzio said as cited by Football Italia.

“There are no negotiations ongoing, there have never been. So they’ll part company at the end of the deal in June.”

A number of Saudi clubs had been linked with hiring the Special One last summer, but Mourinho decided to stay at Roma.

Di Marzio added: “Surely, once Mourinho will be free, they [Saudi clubs] will try again.

Mliswa stated, “Let’s leave the Speaker out of it,” emphasizing that Jacob Mudenda, the Speaker of Parliament, has no choice but to remove MPs aligned with Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Mnangagwa Man Threatens Foreign Diplomats

GOVERNMENT has emphasised the need for foreign diplomats to understand the separation of powers when analysing the actions of the Executive, Parliament and Legislature.

The call was made by the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Professor Amon Murwira when he briefed African diplomats on the internal political situation in Zimbabwe.

As he addressed African Union Ambassadors accredited to Zimbabwe, Professor Murwira dismissed claims that other arms of state and political parties are interfering with operations of Parliament.

This comes after 15 CCC members of the National Assembly were recalled as the party battles internal fighting.

“Government takes note of statements from the political outfit, whose members were recalled from parliament. The unfounded aspersions and outright falsehoods seeking to embroil government and the ruling ZANU PF Party in the recall processes, are without merit.

“For the avoidance of doubt and for the benefit of those unfamiliar with Zimbabwean laws, in terms of Section 129(1)(k) of the Zimbabwe Constitution, recalls of Members of Parliament are done by the political party to which the affected member belongs by way of written notice to the Speaker of the National Assembly or President of Senate, and not by Government,” he said.

He added, “Against that background, it is incorrect and downright deceit for any political formation so affected by recalls to blame it on the other. Simply, no other party enjoys such a standing or mandate over the other on matters of recall. Zimbabwean law enjoins the Speaker of the National Assembly and the President of the Senate (as Presiding officers) to promptly act on any and all communication from political formations brought before them with a view to effecting a recall. Neither official can or may cause, amend, or block any such communication once placed before them.”

He further maintained that there is no political crisis in Zimbabwe.

“It is a matter of public record that one presidential candidate in the just ended harmonised elections declared, well ahead of the polls and, brazenly in the presence of election observers and the media, that the candidate would not abide by any other result except one which “pronounced the candidate as the sole winner. Indeed this was the second such instance in which the candidate made such a declaration.”

“Sadly, violence ensued after such a declaration in 2018. This type of conduct is an attack on our democracy constitutionalism and the rule of law. Regrettably, some countries have tended to support this undemocratic conduct. As in previous instances, Government will not tolerate any actions aimed at disturbing the peace under the guise of “democratic political processes.”

Professor Murwira added that the country’s political body provides platform for dialogue.

“Zimbabwe’s body-politic provides for dialogue at all levels; in parliament, before, during and after elections. This spirit of dialogue crystallized into the Political Actors Dialogue (POLAD) at which all contesting parties and personalities meet regularly to engage in the national interest.

“This facility, which is meant to engender collaborative politics for national development, continues to be snubbed by one party and one player. In an attempt to dignify their falsehoods, the opposition claims that Zimbabwe has political prisoners. Government wishes to state categorically that there are no political prisoners in Zimbabwe,” he went on.

The Acting Foreign Minister reiterated the call for the removal of the illegal sanctions imposed on the country.

Job Seekers Swindled

MORE than 50 job seekers have been left counting their losses after they were duped by a bogus international employment agent who allegedly swindled them of a combined US$40 000.

Dreams of working abroad have been shuttered for 53 health care students who lost cash to a suspected fraudster who had promised to secure employment for them.

Takunda Mcdonald Pfende aged 27 allegedly targeted students in their final year before each of the 53 students paid US$850 for a sponsorship certificate but nothing materialised.

The accused who was arrested after he failed to honour his end of the bargain was released on US$300 bail when he appeared in court this Monday.

Meanwhile, another suspected fraudster who left a home seeker counting his losses after losing over US$5 000 in a botched deal appeared in court this Monday.

46-year-old Danny Huruyadzo allegedly misrepresented to the complainant that he had two houses for sale in Dzivarasekwa before he received deposit for the properties.

The accused, however, became evasive before he was reported to the police and charged with fraud.

He was released on US$200 bail.

Still at the courts, a 25-year-old commuter omnibus conductor who allegedly killed a passenger after pushing him off a moving vehicle appeared in court this Monday charged with murder.

The altercation occurred after a misunderstanding over a torn US$ note.

He was remanded in custody to the 27th of this month for routine remand.

By- A Zanu PF imposter, identified as Tafadzwa Manyika, claiming to be the party’s interim secretary general, has sent a letter to the Speaker of Parliament, Jacob Mudenda, stating that 70 ZANU PF Members of Parliament are being recalled. 

Manyika alleges that these members are no longer part of the ruling party.

Some Context:

The letter is addressed to Jacob Mudenda, a high-ranking member of the ruling party in Zimbabwe, who holds important positions within the party. He knows the party’s secretary, Obert Mpofu.

This comes when the nation is still grappling with the recalling of 15 MPs from CCC by Sengezo Tshabangu who claims to be the interim Secretary-General of CCC. Tshabangu alleges that the recalled individuals had ceased to be CCC members. However, the CCC argues that Tshabangu is not a genuine member of the party and that they do not have an interim or official Secretary-General. Despite receiving a letter from CCC leader Nelson Chamisa advising the Speaker not to accept such communication from anyone except his office, the Speaker of Parliament expelled the MPs based on Tshabangu’s recall. 

The recalling of CCC MPs further worsened the political crisis which emanated from the disputed 23 August 2023 harmonised elections which the CCC says were rigged by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) in connivance with ZANU PF and its surrogates.

The soft-spoken but astute businessman says the investors have realized the value retention capacity of the property market and were willing to have a “home for their funds”.
‘I am seeing it happening. This is why I am confident it is our time. We need to prepare the ground,” he says.
Dr Louis says the success at WestProp Holdings is because the company has managed to assemble a team with world-class experience and world-class entrepreneurial skills, belief and commitment to the country.

“That’s what I know about WestProp. It’s all about the people,” he said.

Luke Petros Faces Arrest For Punching Referee

Tenax coach Luke Petros is facing arrest after punching the referee at the end of his side’s Eastern Region Soccer League match against Grayham at Chiremba Stadium on Saturday.

The former Warriors striker punched referee Blessing Tauro on the nose after the final whistle, accusing the match official of not awarding Tenax a late penalty.

The aftermath of the match, which ended goalless, was marred by violence as Tenax players took turns to assault the referee and his two assistants, according to match commissioner Ian Karoto’s report.

“When the referee blow the whistle to end the match at 90 minutes, Tenax FC technical occupancy walked into the field shouting abusively to Tauro the referee. Coach Luke Petros punched a fist to the referee, I also identified Bumbate Sam who was wearing jersey number 16 jumping to the referee,” reads part of the report.

“As the police was trying to calm the situation, I identified Mathew Wuraya and other player chasing the two assistant referee Chirigo and Mujoni who went and hide in the local. After the situation was calm we had to regroup at Ruwa police station. Tauro identified Luke Petros, Bumbate Sam no16, Jukulile Takudzwa no8. All were reported to police.”

Residents in Ruwa had to shield the match officials, who then reported the matter to the police, leading to the opening of a docket.

Eastern Region Soccer League chairman Davison Muchena condemned the behaviour of Petros and the Tenax players involved in the fiasco.-Soccer24 News

Nomadic Mourinho Leaves Roma

Jose Mourinho is reportedly heading into the final months of his tenure as Roma coach.

Mourinho signed a three-year deal in the capital in 2021, so his current agreement with the Giallorossi expires at the end of the season.

According to Sky Sport pundit Gianluca Di Marzio, there haven’t been any talks involving Roma and Mourinho to rediscuss the manager’s future.

“It won’t happen.” Marzio said as cited by Football Italia.

“There are no negotiations ongoing, there have never been. So they’ll part company at the end of the deal in June.”

A number of Saudi clubs had been linked with hiring the Special One last summer, but Mourinho decided to stay at Roma.

Di Marzio added: “Surely, once Mourinho will be free, they [Saudi clubs] will try again.

Mnangagwa Splashes State Cash On New ZUPCO Buses

Government will take delivery of 500 buses by next year, with 150 coaches set to be delivered by the end of this year, to add to its current fleet of 467, also as part of a comprehensive plan to boost the country’s mass public transport system.

The 500 vehicles will come in three sizes train coaches, conventional buses and minibuses to add to the current Zupco fleet of 467. The parastatal is also refurbishing its old buses, with 27 coaches having been completed to date.

Government is working on a multi-modal urban transport system, which will see rail transit, mass rapid bus system and also ensure that the entire value chain associated with the urban mass transport system is enabled, from fuel to supplies for spare parts for maintenence.

/2 As the Report itself notes in its Recommendations and other sections, there are still outstanding recommendations from 2018 on the lack of impartiality of the key institutions. In addition to this, the Report itself highlights a litany of very serious and brazen breaches which result in SEOM concluding that the Elections fell short of the standards highlighted above.

/3 Given the above developments, based on the Report’s own findings, domestic remedies cannot be a credible response and are therefore clearly inadequate and incapable of resolving this long standing national crisis.

/4 For those reasons, the citizens of Zimbabwe will not rest until a permanent solution and lasting political settlement has been found to address all their long standing political grievances, pursuant to achieving a just, stable, peaceful, prosperous and democratic Zimbabwe

Govt Threatens Chamisa While Protecting Sengezo Tshabangu

Government has warned the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) against taking any action which may likely cause an uprising in the name of democracy.

The remarks were made by Foreign Affairs acting minister Amon Murwira when he addressed the African Union ambassadors affiliated to Zimbabwe in Harare yesterday.

Apart from exonerating government from the CCC recalls and saying they can only be reversed by self-proclaimed secretary-general Sengezo Tshabangu, Murwira subtly accused CCC leader Nelson Chamisa of “undemocratic conduct”.

Referring to Chamisa’s refusal to accept results of the presidential election in the August 23 harmonised elections Murwira said: “It is a matter of public record that one presidential candidate in the just-ended harmonised elections declared, well ahead of the polls and, brazenly in the presence of election observers and the media, that the candidate would not abide by any other result except one which ‘pronounced the candidate as the sole winner’.

“Indeed this was the second such instance in which the candidate made such a declaration. Sadly, violence ensued after such a declaration in 2018. This type of conduct is an attack on our democracy, constitutionalism and the rule of law.

“Regrettably, some countries have tended to support this undemocratic conduct. As in previous instances, government will not tolerate any actions aimed at disturbing the peace under the guise of ‘democratic political processes’.”

He said Zimbabwean law enjoins the Speaker of the National Assembly and the president of the Senate to promptly act on any and all communication from political formations brought before them to effect a recall.

“Neither official can or may cause, amend, or block any such communication once placed before them. Again, it is downright false to impute responsibility for any recalls on the two Presiding Officers; or even to suggest that they have the remit to withdraw any such communication. Only authors of such communication can cause a reversal,” Murwira said.

He also claimed that there are no political prisoners in the country, despite the opposition alleging that former Zengeza West legislator Job Sikhala who has now clocked over 400 days in jail, is one of them.

Political analyst Rejoice Ngwenya described Murwira’s remarks on Chamisa and recalls as “garbage”.

“The Constitution says elections ought to be free and fair. Observers reported that elections were not free and fair, so end of story,” he said.

“Constitution allows us to demonstrate peacefully. Have we been afforded that opportunity? Zec (Zimbabwe Electoral Commission) must be independent, right? When Msengezi tried to recall ED, what happened? So the Speaker is a cyborg that responds to any letter from the street?”

CCC spokesperson Promise Mkwananzi could not be reached to comment on Murwira’s statement yesterday.

New Education Minister Wants Grade 7 Examinations Scrapped

Primary and Secondary Education Minister Torerai Moyo has proposed the abolishment of the Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (Zimsec) Grade Seven examinations in line with international best practices and strengthening continuous assessment tests.

He suggested that learners write their first public examinations at O-level.

Minister Moyo said this on the sidelines of the Bulawayo Provincial Taskforce on Drugs and Substance Abuse meeting on Sunday.

He said scrapping Grade Seven examinations will help reduce the chances of learners being exposed to societal ills.

“In my personal opinion, it is important for us to eliminate Grade Seven examinations and continue with continuous assessment even at Grade Seven. When they are transitioning to Form One, they can use their third-term report,” said Minister Moyo. “When enrolling them for Form One, secondary schools can give them assessment tests.”

Minister Moyo said some developed countries, which have scrapped Grade Seven examinations, are doing well.

Minister Moyo said scrapping Grade Seven will address the problem of having pupils spending a lot of time out of school after finishing the examinations thus exposing them to drug and substance abuse.

Apart from drug and substance abuse, there is also a concern that some girls are falling pregnant after they complete writing Grade Seven examinations.

To minimise incidents of learners being exposed to societal vices, Minister Moyo said he has since instructed Grade Seven pupils to remain in class.

The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education last week announced that Grade Seven pupils will no longer close school after their examinations as was the case in the past, but will instead continue attending classes until the end of the school term in preparation for their transition to secondary school.

Prior to the amendment Grade Seven pupils closed school after their exams, they will now continue attending classes until the end of the school term.

Minister Moyo said Government is also expected to make public outcomes of the consultations on curriculum review.

In May, the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education conducted a curriculum review process which saw the issue of Continuous Assessment Learning Activities (CALA) dominating the processes.

He said to address the issue of deficit in schools, Government secured US$10 million to construct schools.

The minister said the construction of new schools will address the problem of hot sitting that has been blamed for some of the social ills in schools.

27-Year-Old Fake COS Sponsor Swindles 53 Nurse Aid Students

A 27-year-old man swindled 53 nurse aide students after lying that he could secure them Certificates of Sponsorship (CoS) to work in the United Kingdom, a court heard on Monday.

Employers with a valid sponsorship licence must obtain a CoS for each employee they intend to hire from outside the United Kingdom. While the employers are given each CoS without charge, many unscrupulous companies are now charging foreign workers as much as US$10,000 for a certificate – and criminals are also cashing in.

Prosecutors say sometime in May this year, Mcdonald Takunda Pfende, of Piennar Road in Waterfalls, approached Blessing Gwengwe, an education and employment agent and told him that he could secure CoS for his students.

CoS VERIFICATION CHECK

“Pfende then asked Gwengwe to refer 53 applicants for the sponsorship and charged each applicant US$850,” the National Prosecuting Authority alleges.

Acting on the misrepresentation, Gwengwe collected US$46,000 from his students and sent the money to Pfende using two money transfer agencies – Mukuru and Access Forex.

Shortly after receiving the money, Pfende’s phone became unreachable and a police report was filed.

Police failed to locate the elusive Pfende until last Saturday when Gwengwe, who had made it his life’s dedication to track down the alleged scammer, led police to a house where he was hosting a party.

Pfende was not asked to plead to a charge of fraud when he appeared before Harare magistrate Dennis Mangosi who granted him US$300 bail.

He will be back in court on November 20.

No money has been recovered.

Meanwhile, prosecutors say Pfende was working with one Daphne Edwards who is still at large.

Zim Man Spends One Month In Prison For Insulting Mnangagwa

Mutare Magistrates court has ended the month-long detention of a 28 year-old Mutare man, who had been languishing in prison after he was arrested and charged for blaming President Emmerson Mnangagwa for causing misery in his life.

Elroy Anesu Muchaya, an unemployed resident of Sakubva high-density suburb in Mutare, was arrested by Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) officers on 6 September 2023 and charged with undermining authority of or insulting the President as defined in section 33(2)(b) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act.

According to prosecutors, Muchaya visited ZRP Mutare Traffic Charge Office, which was manned by Ignatius Maziveyi, a ZRP officer, who was on duty, in the early hours of 6 September 2023, where the 28 year-old man allegedly stepped on the counter and removed President Mnangagwa’s portrait and uttered the words “Munhu uyu arikukonzeresa kuti nditambure”, which was translated to mean “This person is the one who is causing my suffering” while holding the portrait close to himself.

Prosecutors said Muchaya’s alleged utterances were unlawful, abusive, indecent and obscene and he had no right to act in the manner he allegedly did.

Muchaya was released from prison on 5 October 2023 on free bail granted by Mutare Magistrate Prisca Manhibi, after his lawyers Chris Ndlovu of Zimbabwe Lawyers from Human Rights and Takunda Musara of Gonese Ndlovu Legal Practitioners, challenged his continued detention in jail and applied for his release.

Five-Day Ultimatum For City Of Harare To End Perennial Water Shortages

HARARE residents have given City of Harare (CoH) a five-day ultimatum to end perennial water shortages in several high-density suburbs in the capital city and help avert the outbreak of cholera and other water-borne diseases.

The Combined Harare Residents Association (CHRA) and Marian Chatambira, a resident of Dzivarasekwa suburb in Harare, engaged Tinashe Chinopfukutwa and Kelvin Kabaya of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights, who on Friday 13 October 2023 wrote a letter to the Director of Works at CoH asking the local authority to restore water supplies to residents in four high-density suburbs of Dzivarasekwa, Budiriro, Glen View and Mabvuku, which have gone for several years without adequate and constant supply of safe and potable running water.

Through the letter, Chinopfukutwa and Kabaya complained that residents living in these suburbs have been experiencing severe problems in accessing running and potable water from their taps and had been forced to resort to fetching water for consumption and daily use from shallow wells and do not know whether the water from the underground wells is safe for consumption or not.

The residents, Chinopfukutwa and Kabaya said, fear that the lack of running potable tap water places them at the risk of contracting the cholera disease particularly at this point in time, where there is a cholera outbreak in the capital city.

The human rights lawyers said the exposure to the likelihood of contracting diseases is a violation of the residents’ right to a safe and healthy environment as guaranteed in terms of section 73(1) of the Constitution.

CoH, Chinopfukutwa and Kabaya said, has failed to achieve progressive realisation of the right to safe, clean and potable water for residents of Harare, which is guaranteed in section 77 of the Constitution.

To stop the violation of the residents’ right to water and healthcare, the human rights lawyers then gave CoH a five-day ultimatum to restore adequate and constant supply of safe, potable running tap water in Dzivarasekwa, Budiriro, Glen View and Mabvuku high-density suburbs including supplying bowsers with safe and potable water in these areas.

Chinopfukutwa and Kabaya also asked CoH to furnish them with the local authority’s water policy and a plan on how it intends to rectify the perennial water shortages in the capital city.

Failure to comply with their demand, the lawyers said, would leave them with no option but to institute legal proceedings to obtain appropriate relief in court.

By Wilbert Mukori| Last week I wrote 2000 words on why it was not in our national interest to continue with the use of foreign currencies for domestic settlement,” wrote Eddie Cross in his latest rendition of Zimbabwe’s economic situation. 

“I thought the case was strong but I was surprised when our President took up the issue at a major meeting and stated quite clearly that we were going back to use of our own currency. I pointed out that when we managed our monetary affairs properly, the US dollar was always worth less than our own currency. I further pointed out that all the countries in our region had done this successfully.

“What the President said was that no country had been able to develop its own economy without using its own currency. I happen to agree. The question is how to affect the transition from what we have now and what has to prevail once the deed is done? That is neither easy nor uncomplicated.

“So here goes. First we have to have an alternative. The Reserve Bank has issued “gold backed tokens” for use as a currency that will retain its value. This is just another form  of Bitcoin – a currency without any real support. You buy it on faith and believe me that is no reason to buy anything. We do not have any significant gold reserves, or reserves of anything to back what the Bank is trying to do. My grandson pointed out that the first sale of these tokens was taken up entirely in local RTGS dollars – another currency that has no backing or real value.”

The real surprise here is that Eddie Cross was surprised President Mnangagwa took off at a tangent – demanding the use of local currency when the country is clearly NOT managing its monetary affairs properly! 

I have often found Eddie Cross pedantic to the point of utter uselessness. It is no secret that we have NOT been managing our monetary affairs properly for decades and hence the reason we are in this mess.

Indeed, it is naive, to say the least, to expect Zimbabwe to manage her monetary affairs when our political affairs are in a mess! 

“Seek you first the political kingdom and the rest will follow,” advised Dr Kwame Nkrumah, the first President of independent Ghana. Zimbabwe has been stuck in this hell-hole for decades because naive people like Mr Cross have been trying to achieve the impossible – retain the Zanu PF dictatorship and still deliver the economic recovery and even economic prosperity. 

The man, Eddie Cross has been advising on monetary matters, President Mnangagwa, was in Victoria Fall last week telling a tale!

“I’m frightened that I’m meeting CEOs, people who have succeeded in life and are at the top,” he told his audience at the CEO Conference.

“But, of course, without election, which is good because elections you rig. I doubt whether there’s any rigging with the CEOs, it’s on merit.” 

Talk of sick joke, this was a sick. Zimbabwe is a failed state precisely because we have failed to hold free, fair and credible elections and the man responsible for rigging the elections thinks that is a joke!

Of course, Zimbabwe is a failed state! We have been stuck these last 43 years with a corrupt, incompetent and utterly useless Zanu PF regime. 43 years of voodoo-economics, corruption and murderous tyrannical rule have left the country in economic ruins and a pariah state in which it is near impossible to do business! But not so for Mr Cross, he is hell bent on proving Dr Nkrumah was wrong.

Mr Cross was one of the senior MDC leaders and the late Dr Morgan Tsvangirai’s advisers throughout the 2008 to 2013 GNU. The party failed to implement even one democratic reform to dismantle the Zanu PF dictatorship presumably because people like Eddie Cross believed Zimbabwe would still prosper without dismantling the dictatorship. 

Ever since Mnangagwa took over from Mugabe following the 2017 military coup Eddie Cross led from the front the “Give ED a chance!” brigadeHe has predicted one economic boom after another under this Second Republic or be it on the ground the economy has sunk deeper and deeper into the abyss.

Has the penny finally dropped that Zimbabwe will never ever enjoy any meaningful economic recovery, much less economic boom, as long as the country remains a pariah state that can not hold free, fair and credible elections. To have sound economic policies we must have good governance and we cannot have that whilst we remain stuck with a corrupt and tyrannical regime that is rigging elections to stay in power!  

Until we cure ourselves of the curse of rigged elections and bad governance there will be no meaningful economic recovery in Zimbabwe. And no amount of statutory instruments to force people to use the inflation prone local currency will make Z$ strong and stable!

Garry Mapanzure Laid To Rest

THE late Afro-pop star Garry Mapanzure who succumbed to injuries sustained from a road traffic accident on Thursday, has been buried at Lawn Cemetery in Masvingo.

Family, friends, musicians and fans gathered in Masvingo to bid farewell to the late Mapanzure who was described as a young shining star who inspired many youths through his music and character.

“We are devastated as Garry’s fans. He was a great musician whose music will continue to live on. Our thoughts are with his family,” said a fan.

A music promoter said, “As a promoter, I can tell you that this young man had a lot of potential though he passed on very young.”

Masvingo provincial leadership urged young people to emulate the good works of Garry Mapanzure who was able to put the country’s flag high through music.

“As we bury this young soul who had a lot of potential, I say to our youths, Garry was very patriotic. Despite having studied abroad, he came back to serve his country through music,” said Minister of State for Masvingo Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Ezra Chadzamira.

Garry’s family thanked the people of Zimbabwe for supporting his music.

“As a family, we feel very sad today because Garry was our shining beacon. However, we would want to thank the people of Zimbabwe for the support during our time of bereavement,” said family representative, Mr Nyasha Mapanzure.

Born on the 18th of June 1998, Mapunzure rose to fame in 2017 after the release of his hit ‘Wapunza’ which has over four million views on YouTube.

Wapunza also became an international hit after it was aired on Trace Africa.

The late creative genius was among the few artists who were selected for Nigeria’s Mr Eazi’s EMPAEA 100 programme which was aimed at identifying talent within the continent.

Mapanzure will also be remembered for his offerings which include ‘Pindirai’, ‘Rigiyoni Takawanda’ and ‘Chimoko Chidanger’.

He is survived by his wife and one child.

Tragedy Unfolds in Harare as Kombi Conductor’s Assault Turns Fatal

Harare – In a shocking incident that has sent shockwaves through the community, a senseless act of violence involving a kombi conductor, locally referred to as a “hwindi,” has resulted in the tragic death of a passenger over a torn US$1 note.

The incident took place on the night of September 13th, 2023, at approximately 21:15 hours, at a service station along Seke Road, Harare. Tawanda Pindu, a 25-year-old kombi conductor, became embroiled in a dispute with Batsirai Chisindi, a 35-year-old passenger who had used a damaged US$1 bill to pay his fare.

According to the police statement released on Twitter, the confrontation quickly escalated, with Pindu resorting to violence. In a shocking turn of events, he struck Chisindi with such force that the passenger fell to the ground, hitting the back of his head. The impact caused severe bleeding, and despite efforts to get immediate medical assistance, Chisindi succumbed to his injuries.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) swiftly moved to apprehend Tawanda Pindu in connection with the case. The official statement from the police department confirmed his arrest, “ZRP confirms the arrest of Tawanda Pindu (25) in connection with a case of murder which occurred on 13/09/23 around 2115 hours at a service station along Seke Road, Harare in which Batsirai Chisindi (35) died.”

Harare, Zimbabwe – In a significant development, the Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA) has officially inaugurated an office in Harare, Zimbabwe, aimed at streamlining the importation of cars and various goods from the ocean-linked nation of Tanzania. This move is set to alleviate the logistical challenges faced by Zimbabweans who have had to travel long distances to access their second-hand cars originating from Asia and Europe, typically routed through the port of Dar es Salaam.

Trade volumes between Tanzania and Zimbabwe have been steadily increasing, prompting the establishment of this TPA office in Zimbabwe. TPA plays a pivotal role in managing ports that serve the Tanzanian hinterland and landlocked countries such as Zambia, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Burundi, Rwanda, Malawi, Uganda, the Comoros, and Zimbabwe.

Tanzanian officials, led by Minister of Works, Transport, and Communications Professor Makame Mbarawa, formally opened the TPA office in Belgravia, Harare. Professor Mbarawa highlighted the importance of the port industry in Tanzania, which contributes over 50 percent of total tax revenues collected in the country annually through taxes on imports and exports.

The volume of transit cars from Japan and European countries to Zimbabwe through the Dar es Salaam Port has been steadily increasing. For instance, in the 2020/2021 fiscal year, there were 14,946 units of cars imported, while in the 2021/2022 fiscal year, the number rose to 46,519. This growth is expected to continue in the 2023/2024 financial year.

Professor Mbarawa emphasized the Tanzanian government’s commitment to supporting the business community and addressing the challenges faced by Zimbabwean port users, including the long distance from Dar es Salaam to Harare and issues related to road facilities, transit time, and payment of port charges.

Transport and Infrastructural Development Permanent Secretary Engineer Joy Makumbe also noted that the presence of TPA in Zimbabwe aligns with the government’s strategy to become a land-linked nation. Zimbabwe has increasingly favored the Dar es Salaam Port, particularly for vehicle imports from Asia, and there are plans to revitalize railway infrastructure to facilitate the movement of bulk goods and vehicles by train.

Car dealers in Harare welcomed the establishment of TPA offices in Zimbabwe, expressing their gratitude to both governments for the development. They anticipate that this move will significantly ease the challenges they face when importing cars through Tanzania, providing them with a local point of contact for their issues and grievances.

ZIMBABWE finished fourth at the COSAFA Women’s Championship after going down two-nil to Mozambique in the 3rd place play-off at Lucas Moripe stadium in Pretoria, South Africa this Sunday.

The senior women’s team was chasing victory to secure a bronze medal, but defensive blunders cost them the match as they fell two down to a well-structured Mozambique.

Going into the match, head coach Shadreck Mlauzi who returned to the bench after sitting out the last match, made six changes to the starting line-up and also gave a debut to 17-year-old Patience Ndlovu.

However, it was senior players, goalkeeper Lindiwe Magwede, defender Purity Mugayi and holding midfielder Daisy Kaitano who were at fault for the two goals conceded.

Despite this Sunday’s failings, head coach Shadreck Mlauzi was satisfied with the progress the team has made.

“Obviously, we would have loved to end the tournament on a high but it wasn’t to be, all the same, I am still very much proud of the girls. We have made tremendous progress as a team from the day we started camp up to now. We have laid the foundation to build upon and now we need to make sure we continue and also put the correct structures in our league back home to be able to compete here,” said Mlauzi.

Zimbabwe’s loss gave Mozambique their first medal at the COSAFA Women’s Championship.

Zimsec Assures No Exam Paper Leaks

Harare – The Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (Zimsec) has provided assurances of a secure examination process as Ordinary and Advanced Level exams commenced without any reported hiccups. Government officials and education authorities are confident in the security measures put in place to prevent leaks of examination papers.

Mr. Taungana Ndoro, spokesperson for the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, stated that the examinations began as scheduled, and no disruptions or leaks had been reported thus far. He debunked reports of leaks circulating in certain media outlets as false.

“The examinations have started, we have not received any adverse reports in the way the examinations were conducted. As of now, the exams progressed as scheduled. No leaks of papers so far as purported by other papers. When things are okay, people should emulate but not cause alarm. The process was good,” Mr. Ndoro assured.

Efforts to bolster security measures have been made to safeguard the integrity of the examinations. Mr. Ndoro emphasized that anyone attempting to breach these security measures would be dealt with accordingly.

Mr. Munyaradzi Majoni, from the Zimbabwe National Union of School Heads, echoed the positive sentiments, stating that both teachers and students are fully prepared and that they rely on the regulations put forth by Zimsec to ensure a smooth examination process. No genuine leaks of papers have been reported at this stage.

He further highlighted that the minimal disturbances brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic this year have led to expectations of a higher pass rate. “We are expecting a good pass rate as a result of no disturbances which affected learners this year. We do not have any challenges so far affecting our learners who are sitting for the examinations. We expect our examinations to be flowing smoothly,” Mr. Majoni commented.

The Zimbabwean government has taken proactive steps to address the issue of examination paper leaks. The approval of the Zimbabwe School Examinations Council Amendment Bill is intended to strengthen the independence of the Zimsec Board and ensure the proper fulfillment of its mandate. Under the proposed bill, examination centers failing to comply with Zimsec standards could face deregistration, and Zimsec would have the authority to withhold results pending investigations into alleged malpractices such as paper leaks.

Furthermore, all individuals involved in the administration of Zimsec examinations will be required to take an oath of secrecy. Stricter penalties will be imposed on those found guilty of any malpractices, including leaks. Individuals convicted of leaking public examination question papers may face up to nine years in prison, and learners found guilty of the same offense will have their results nullified. These measures have been introduced to deter cheating and safeguard the integrity of the examination process.

As the examinations progress smoothly, students and educators remain optimistic about the successful completion of this year’s Ordinary and Advanced Level exams.

Gonese Retires From Politics

By- Former opposition CCC Mutare Central long-serving legislator Innocent Gonese has retired from active politics.

The former MDC Chief Whip in Parliament announced his retirement from politics in a private message to relatives over the weekend.

Gonese also confirmed his retirement to NewsDay in an interview on Sunday, saying he will now focus on his law practice after 24 years in politics.

In the message posted on Saturday, Gonese said:

I am reverting to being a private citizen and a full-time legal practitioner and human rights activist. In a normal country, I would be going into real retirement, but I still have to put food on the table and what I trained to do is to practice law and so be it.

It also gives me more time to spend with the family, do my long-distance running and occasionally hit the small white ball.

In the future, time permitting, I will try to do a PhD and take up Arthur Mutambara’s challenge and write a book. But first things first, try to survive under challenging and difficult times.

Mnangagwa Plans To Ban Chamisa CCC Party

By- The Emmerson Mnangagwa Government has hinted that it would enact laws that bar structureless political parties from contesting elections.

Mnangagwa’s Justice, Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi, told the state media that the Government was considering regulating political parties to ensure they are “organised”.

Ziyambi said it may become necessary to bar political parties without structures from contesting in national elections.

This comes after the “structureless” opposition CCC party led by Nelson Chamisa recently recalled 15 MPs, 9 senators and 17 councillors.

The recalls were initiated by CCC member Sengezo Tshabangu the party’s self-declared interim secretary-general, even though the party does not have such a position as it doesn’t have structures.

Ziyambi said the “endless” recalls by the opposition are a drain on the fiscus as the Government is forced to divert funds towards financing by-elections. He said:

I think going forward we need to have a discussion, and conversations to ensure that political parties are registered. They deposit their constitution and show that they are organised.

The situation that exists now is that we have had political parties that would just sprout towards elections.

You have a coalition of individuals with no structure that is recognised and soon after elections they start fighting.

You can’t tell who is who, and perhaps what needs to be discussed is that let us have proper political party registration so that all those parties without structures will not be able to contest.

ZANU PF rarely recalls its elected officials but the opposition has seemingly developed a culture of recalling members.

After the 2013 elections, MDC-T recalled 21 MPs including former Finance Minister Tendai Biti after a group of legislators had called for leadership renewal within the party.

In the post-2018 elections, the MDC-T recalled dozens of MPs and councillors following a leadership dispute.

Ziyambi argued that the Government is forced to divert resources whenever there are recalls and as a result, money that should have been used for developmental programmes is channeled towards elections. He said:

The Constitution and the Electoral Act state that when a vacancy occurs within 90 days we must go for an election.

And when we go for an election, the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission must deploy people to do all the necessary preparations and this is an unnecessary expenditure that has to be borne by the taxpayers.

That money could have been used for development projects. We could put this money to good use such as improving the road to Victoria Falls and paying our contractor.

We now have to satisfy the constitutional requirements which require that we conduct by-elections within 90 days and mind you we are just coming from another election.

Meanwhile, Constitutional lawyer Lovemore Madhuku has called for the removal from the Constitution the clause that parties can recall members. Said Madhuku:

… the problem is not within opposition parties, but the Constitution and that clause should be removed.

Top Chamisa Aide Quits Politics

By- Top lawyer and former CCC Mutare Central long-serving legislator Innocent Gonese has retired from active politics.

The former MDC Chief Whip in Parliament announced his retirement from politics in a private message to relatives over the weekend.

Gonese also confirmed his retirement to NewsDay in an interview on Sunday, saying he will now focus on his law practice after 24 years in politics.

In the message posted on Saturday, Gonese said:

I am reverting to being a private citizen and a full-time legal practitioner and human rights activist. In a normal country, I would be going into real retirement, but I still have to put food on the table and what I trained to do is to practice law and so be it.



It also gives me more time to spend with the family, do my long-distance running and occasionally hit the small white ball.

In the future, time permitting, I will try to do a PhD and take up Arthur Mutambara’s challenge and write a book. But first things first, try to survive under challenging and difficult times.

Chombo Swallows Pride, Approaches Mnangagwa 

By-The former President Robert Mugabe’s dark-horse and former Local Government Minister Ignatius Chombo has applied to rejoin Zanu PF.

“Whitehead”, as he is affectionately known, was expelled from the ruling party soon after the November 2017 military coup that ousted the late Mugabe.

On 30 August 2023, the National Prosecuting Authority withdrew two charges of corruption against Chombo which he was facing before Magistrate Marehwanazvo Gofa.

All the cases that were being investigated by the Zimbabwe Republic Police including fraud and criminal abuse of office had already been withdrawn.

In the aftermath of NPA’s withdrawal of all charges against him, Chombo wrote to ZANU PF Mashonaland West Chairperson, Mary Mliswa-Chikoka, requesting to rejoin the party.

On Friday last week, the ZANU PF Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) convened a meeting in Chinhoyi where Chombo’s application was read and discussed.

Most of the attendees reportedly unanimously agreed that the 71-year-old ex-minister should be given another chance to serve the party.

On Sunday, Mliswa-Chikoka brought the communication for endorsement by the Provincial Coordinating Committee (PCC) at its meeting held at Orange Grove Motel.

She then invited ZANU PF Politburo member Ziyambi Ziyambi, as a Zvimba District senior representative, to give guidance on how to proceed with Chombo’s application as he hails from that area. Said Ziyambi:

As Zvimba, we agreed that he was a helpful person who sponsored ZANU PF events and programmes (during his hiatus) and that his pending court cases were all cleared. Therefore, there is absolutely no reason to object to his readmission.

Chombo served as Minister of Local Government, Public Works and Urban Development from 2000 to 2015 before his appointment as Home Affairs Minister from 2015 to 2017.

He was then appointed Finance Minister in 2017 before being sacked following Mugabe’s ouster.

Zanu PF Defends Tshabangu, Says He Can Recall Chamisa Elected Officials

By-The Zanu PF government has said that the rebel CCC, calling himself the party’s secretary general, Sengezo Tshabangu, can dismiss the opposition’s elected officials.

Stabangu last week recalled of the party’s 15 MPS, 9 senators and 17 councillors.

Self-declared CCC interim secretary-general wrote to the Speaker of the National Assembly, Jacob Mudenda, notifying him that the elected officials had ceased to be members of the party resulting in their expulsion.

In a statement on Friday, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Amon Murwira said the State had nothing to do with the recalls. He said:

Government takes note of statements from some political outfits in the wake of recent recalls of Members of Parliament from a certain political party in terms of our laws.

The unfounded aspersions and outright falsehoods seeking to embroil Government and the ruling ZANU PF party in the recall processes are without merit.

For the avoidance of doubt, and for the benefit of those unfamiliar with Zimbabwean laws, in terms of Section 129(1)(k) of the Zimbabwe Constitution, recalls of Members of Parliament are done by the political party to which the affected member belongs by way of written notice to the Speaker of the National Assembly or President of Senate, and not by Government.

Against that background, it is incorrect and downright deceitful for any political formation so affected by recalls to blame it on the other. Simply, no other party enjoys such a standing or mandate over the other on matters of recall.

Neither official can or may cause, amend, or block any such communication once placed before them.

Again, it is downright false to impute responsibility for any recalls on the two presiding officers; or even to suggest that they have the remit to withdraw any such communication. Only authors of such communication can cause a reversal.

However, political analysts have queried how Tshabangu, an unknown individual until early this month, could claim to be a holder of a position that does not exist in CCC and use that non-existent position to recall elected officials against the stated position of the party’s leader Nelson Chamisa.

US$15k extortion backfires for 5 cops

By A Correspondent- In a concerning development, five police officers from Harare have appeared in court, facing charges of criminal abuse of office for allegedly attempting to extort US$15,000 from a legal practitioner.

The officers, identified as Lawson Muchongwe, Perseverence Chisango, Weston Muzorewa, Prosper Chimbumu, and Fredrick Moyo, made their appearance before Harare Magistrate Mr Donald Ndirowei and were granted bail of US$50 each.

According to court proceedings, the accused officers claimed to have received information regarding sexual harassment allegations against the legal practitioner’s client, which they were supposedly investigating. Subsequently, they requested a meeting with the legal practitioner to discuss the alleged investigations.

In response, the legal practitioner sought the company of his lawyer and agreed to meet the accused officers at Newlands Shopping Centre in Harare. On October 11, the complainant, accompanied by his lawyer, arrived at the designated location to meet with the officers.

During the meeting, after discussions about the alleged sexual harassment case, the accused officers reportedly demanded a sum of US$15,000 in exchange for dropping the charges against the complainant.

The complainant promptly reported the incident to Harare Central Police Station on October 12, leading to an investigation by detectives from CID Homicide. The investigation revealed that there was no ongoing sexual harassment case being investigated at ZRP Harare Central or any other police station involving the complainant as the accused.

Subsequently, the accused officers were apprehended when they arrived to collect the extortion money from the complainant.

People who say Chamisa has failed to effect change will never talk about the exposure of Mnangagwa’s ambassador Uebert Angel and the Mafia in Zambia, which investigative brings Zimbabweans closer to their victory than at any other time.

It is unfortunate that it took many people time to realise and now, before Chin’ono harrasses people again or leak more addresses of torture victims’ safe houses to Chiwenga/ED, people should just ask Hopewell Chin’ono

Lula lula encounter with thigh vendor backfires for 20yr old man

By A Correspondent- In a bizarre incident at Chikwanha Shopping Centre in Chitungwiza, a man found himself at the mercy of robbers while engaging in a sexual encounter with a commercial sex worker inside a parked car.

The 20-year-old, identified as Onwell Hwiridza, had rendezvoused with a 36-year-old woman named Sheilla Shaibu when their intimate moment took an unexpected turn.

As they were in the midst of their activities, three individuals posing as police officers swooped in, catching the pair off guard. Fearful for her own safety, Sheilla quickly fled the scene, leaving Onwell to face the thugs alone.

Seizing the opportunity, the three men commandeered Onwell’s vehicle, with one of them assuming control of the steering wheel. Meanwhile, the other two assailants subjected him to physical assault. Together, they set off along Seke Road in the direction of Harare, with Onwell helplessly confined to the vehicle.

Eventually, the perpetrators abandoned Onwell at ZRP St Mary’s Bus Stop before making their escape. Authorities later discovered the stolen car discarded along Seke Road, but the culprits remained at large.

Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, the Harare provincial police spokesperson, confirmed the incident, stating that Onwell had not only lost his vehicle but also valuable possessions. The stolen items included a Samsung J7 Prime cellphone, a Samsung AO3 cellphone, a Samsung A12 cellphone, an Itel S23 cellphone, and US$13 in cash.

Churches Paint Gloomy Political Picture After Recall Of 15 CCC Legislators

The Zimbabwe Council of Churches (ZCC) has warned controversial recalls on 15 CCC MPs would cause a further strain to the country’s economy and further deepen wide beliefs that participation in national elections was a waste of time.

In a statement weekend, ZCC also denounced national assembly speaker Jacob Mudenda for adamantly acting on a directive issued by self-imposed CCC secretary general Sengezo Tshabangu to expel the opposition lawmakers hardly two months since they were elected in Zimbabwe’s August poll.

Mudenda, a Zanu PF top politician and ally to President Emmerson Mnangagwa, ignored communication sent to parliament by CCC leader Nelson Chamisa both dismissing Tshabangu as an imposter as well as sharing resolutions of a party communique cementing the fact that the recalls were not a collective resolution by the main opposition.

“The church has noted the alleged manner to which the Speaker of Parliament has handled the recall process, that is, the recognition of a letter from the interim CCC spokesperson yet disregarding the communique from CCC President.

“This allegation taints and validates the long-standing assertion of unfair practices in our strategic state institutions,” ZCC said.

The outspoken church group said the recalls were unnecessarily pushing the country back into a polarised mode following divisive polls just held.

ZCC said the recalls will trigger by-elections, describing them as another unnecessary drain on the country’s fragile economy.

“This implies that the country will continue to be gripped and fixated on election mode,” said ZCC.

“Instead of focusing on nation building and economic development in the post 2023 elections, Zimbabwe’s development will remain stunted affecting country’s capacity to support the poor and vulnerable.”

The outspoken church organisation said the recalls will be perceived as a sign of disrespect to electorate and further send unhelpful signal that the country’s poll processes were not an effective way of choosing leaders.

ZCC said the recalls give credence to wide beliefs that the Mnangagwa led regime was hell-bent on turning Zimbabwe into one-party-state.

Ingutsheni central hospital overwhelmed

By A Correspondent- Ingutsheni Central Hospital, located in Bulawayo, is facing a significant challenge as it admits more patients than its carrying capacity can accommodate.

Dr. Nemache Mawere, the hospital’s CEO, highlighted this issue during the World Mental Health Day commemorations held at the facility. He revealed that the number of patients currently exceeds the hospital’s capacity.

Dr. Mawere emphasized that the majority of mental health patients at Ingutsheni Central Hospital are men. The patient population is dynamic, with fluctuations occurring daily. Presently, the hospital is accommodating approximately 650 patients. However, this has led to overwhelming conditions in the hospital’s wards, as the number of patients surpasses the available beds.

For instance, the Khumalo ward, designed for 76 beds, currently houses 180 patients. Similarly, the forensic ward, with a capacity of 60 beds, is accommodating 70 patients. This overcrowding poses significant challenges in providing adequate care and treatment to all patients.

Dr. Mawere also expressed concerns about the lack of support from families of the patients. The hospital faces difficulties when families fail to provide the necessary support to their relatives undergoing treatment. In response, Ingutsheni Central Hospital actively engages in follow-ups and ongoing communication with families to ensure that patients receive the support they need for their mental health journey.

The hospital’s management is grappling with the pressing issue of limited capacity as they strive to provide quality care to all patients. Addressing the overcrowding problem and garnering increased family involvement are crucial aspects that need to be addressed to improve the overall mental health services provided by Ingutsheni Central Hospital.

Murewa witch shocks community

By A Correspondent- A woman in Murewa stunned a gathering in Munyuki village when she claimed that she and five others had “bewitched” her two late daughters and then presented a piece of meat she falsely alleged was human flesh, as informed to a Murewa magistrate.

The piece of meat was subjected to forensic tests which determined that it did not come from a human being or any domestic animal.

Grace Kasambarare, aged 23, admitted to trying to practice witchcraft. She was sentenced to a 10-month jail term on Thursday last week by Magistrate Mr. S. Kudya after being found guilty on five counts of violating the Witchcraft Suppression Act by falsely accusing the other five individuals of being witches and wizards.

According to the agreed-upon facts presented in court by Mr. Titus Taruvinga, representing the State, Kasambarare had three children, two of whom passed away on consecutive dates in December of the previous year.

On May 15 of this year, Kasambarare alleged in front of a gathering and her husband that she and five others, who were her witchcraft associates, were responsible for the deaths of her seven-year-old and five-year-old children due to “non-natural” causes.

She then produced a piece of meat that she claimed the six of them had obtained from an unidentified deceased person.

Following her statement, Kasambarare’s husband reported the matter to the police. The other five individuals refuted the allegations of being witches and wizards as stated by Kasambarare.

In delivering the sentence, the magistrate considered as mitigating the fact that Kasambarare pleaded guilty and displayed contrition. In her mitigation, she told the court that she had been “possessed by a demon” which compelled her to perform her witchcraft acts. However, the “demon” had since been removed. The magistrate noted that her false claims of witchcraft caused Kasambarare shame within her community and also led to her legal troubles, as the law prohibited her from accusing others.

Meanwhile, the police in Harare have stated that there is no truth to the rumor that three individuals were caught eating human flesh at Highfield Cemetery. The rumor, spread by a drunken man, incited numerous angry residents who sought to storm the cemetery to apprehend the alleged culprits.

Man brutally murders lover leaving her 7month old baby near corpse

By A Correspondent- In a horrifying incident, a man from Bulawayo brutally attacked and killed his live-in girlfriend in Cowdray Park suburb.

The assailant, identified as Dingani Sibanda, aged 31, fled the scene, leaving behind the lifeless body of the victim, Simelinkosi Sibanda, who was 27 years old at the time. Tragically, the woman’s seven-month-old baby was found crying next to the mother’s lifeless body.

Authorities apprehended Dingani a day after the gruesome murder. He was captured while waiting at a hitch-hiking spot near Mac’s Garage, intending to flee to South Africa. In a video shared on social media by Mr Ezra “Tshisa” Sibanda, Dingani’s father, Mr Phineas Sibanda, revealed that Dingani and Simelinkosi were cohabiting.

According to Mr Sibanda, on the night of the incident, he returned home from work and heard noise and screaming coming from the kitchen, which served as the couple’s bedroom. Dingani questioned Simelinkosi about why she was peering over the fence towards their neighbour’s house, suspecting her interest in the neighbour’s son. When Mr Sibanda knocked on the door, Dingani refused to open it.

Unable to gain entry, Mr Sibanda decided to report the matter to the police. Upon his return, he discovered the child crying and the door still locked. Mr Sibanda decided to enter through the bathroom window, which lacked burglar bars. Inside, he found Simelinkosi’s lifeless body lying in a pool of blood, while Dingani was nowhere to be found.

Mr Sibanda attempted to contact the police but faced challenges due to the late hour and inclement weather. He decided to wait until dawn before alerting a neighbour, who then informed the residents’ association and reported the incident to the police.

Expressing dissatisfaction with the police’s response, Mr Sibanda blamed them for their reluctance in attending to the matter promptly. He also revealed that his son had a history of violence towards the deceased, often exacerbated by drug and alcohol abuse. Mr Sibanda had personally witnessed previous incidents and attempted to intervene despite facing threats and aggression from his son.

Following the arrest, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, the national police spokesperson, confirmed the incident and revealed that Dingani Sibanda is facing a murder charge. He is expected to appear in court soon. The victim’s seven-month-old baby was left behind, adding to the tragedy of the situation.

As the news crew arrived at the family home, Mr Sibanda had already left to search for Simelinkosi’s relatives in Lupane.
