Top Govt Official Under Fire For Assaulting Mistress, Stepdaughter At Govt Offices

Permanent secretary in the ministry of Mines and Mining Development, Pfungwa Kunaka, is under fire for allegedly assaulting his mistress and stepdaughter at his government offices, amid allegations he has over the years used his position as a senior official to get away with similar abuses.

Information gathered by The NewsHawks shows that Rumbidzai Matinyenya has reported the physical abuse numerous times over the years at Harare Central Police Station before being cajoled to drop charges.

She has however refused to drop charges for an attack which occurred at the ministry’s offices in the central business district on 20 February.

Kunaka also allegedly attacked his 14-year-old stepdaughter while guards watched.

The matter was reported at Harare Central Police Station and a docket was opened under CR 951/02/23 in relation to his mistress while the stepdaughter’s case is under CR950/2/23.

Kunaka also allegedly assaulted Matinyenya and her friend at a house in Harare’s Greendale suburb on Christmas Day, resulting in the matter being reported under case number RRB5377773 at Rhodesville Police Station.

Another assault case was reported at Harare Central in July last year under number IR071059. Matinyenya confirmed the cases but said she dropped charges on all previous matters except the February attack, where “he also attacked my daughter”.

Kunaka did not respond to questions sent a fortnight ago. Messages sent on WhatsApp were blue-ticked to show he had read them. He was also not answering calls.

Matinyenya alleged she has been abused by Kunaka since 2015 after she gave birth to his child. The attacks occurred at several places, including at the ministry of Finance offices, where he was employed as a senior official before his promotion to Mines permanent secretary last year.

She revealed the two have had a relationship since 2008 when she was only 17. She was married at the time but was cheating with Kunaka, whom she said pampered her with cash and gifts.

Kunaka is also married.

“I was young, vulnerable and impressionable. I guess I lost my bearing because of the gifts and the promise to marry me. I was pregnant at the time we were dating, but my husband found out about our affair in 2009, when my child was small, resulting in us separating,” she said.

“Kunaka then rented a house for me. Things were okay between us until 2015 when I gave birth to his child. He suddenly stopped sending my first child to school and stopped paying rent. My child had to drop from a private school and enrol at a government school as a result. He also started physically abusing me; the first time being in March 2016 when he hit me with a whip in the ministry of Finance offices.

“I almost fell through the window on the 6th floor as he was assaulting me,” she said.

Matinyenya said she reported the assault at Harare Central Police Station, but withdrew charges after he convinced her to do so.

“From that day, I have not known peace,” she said.

She said one of the most brutal attacks occurred last Christmas, when she went to his house to ask for money to treat their child, who has a heart ailment.

Matinyenya said Kunaka has refused to put his child on medical aid despite her condition.

“Our child fell ill. I called him for help because the child was not on medical aid, but he was not answering. I then went to his house. I was answered by his son who was very courteous. He asked me to come inside but I said I just wanted to see Kunaka and asked him to call him for me. While I was parked at the gate, someone drove out and asked why I was blocking the gate, before hurling insults at me,” she said.

“There were many people at the house and I saw a group of people advancing towards me, among them his daughter. I tried to reverse the car but his daughter hit me with a bottle after I crashed the car on a pillar.

“Kunaka came and took the keys away, and ordered people to beat me. I was accompanied by a friend, and we were both beaten. I was beaten until I soiled myself. They beat me from around 1830hrs to 2000hrs and I passed out. My sick daughter witnessed the attack and was crying throughout while holding onto her father. When I was released from his home, I met a guy who offered me his shirt. He phoned a taxi which took me to Rhodesville Police Station,” she said.

Matinyenya said Kunaka ignored police officers who attended the scene, and was only interviewed the following day, when she also “rescued” her daughter “who was cold and shivering after sleeping on the floor”.

She alleged Kunaka was in the habit of bribing police officers each time he attacked her, and believe he did so at Rhodesville as well. Matinyenya said the attitude of the police officers changed after they had a long meeting with Kunaka and even took him to court, when the magistrates’ court were on a break.

“I later withdrew the case after Kunaka pressured me to drop charges. He also promised to fix the car I was driving which was extensively damaged during the attack. I took the Mercedes Benz C180 to Zimoco for repairs and gave them his number, but when they called him, he said he did not know me. He failed to honour his promise, so I visited him at his offices on 20 February so that we could solve this matter,” she said.

“I went with both my children and we met him in the basement as he was also going out. He was about to go into his car and the small girl in excitement touched his car, a brand new Prado. He was offended and insulted her. I asked him if we could get into his car to talk, but when I held the door he started assaulting me while calling the guards. He was pushing me against the wall while pulling my breasts.

“He saw my daughter holding a phone, and turned on her. He chased her and hit her with a broom. He called her a ‘street kid’.”

Her daughter took a taxi and reported the as – sault at Harare Central Police Station, but she was told to come with an adult. Matinyenya then reported the assault alongside her daughter. Since the case involved a minor, the Social Welfare Department was also roped in.

She said Kunaka has asked her to drop the charges, saying she can never win the case, but she has refused. Matinyenya said the social welfare officer who initially handled the matter has recused himself, but told her to be strong for her daughter.

She suspects he was put under pressure, but refused to be compromised. She said a new officer is handling the matter.

She was interviewed on 13 March while Kunaka was later called to explain his side of the story.

Matinyenya said the matter was yet to be heard in court. Police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyati did not respond to questions although he said he would personally look into the matter.

The revelations on Kunaka come at a time the Supreme Court has ruled that President Emmerson Mnangagwa should craft a code of conduct for the vice-president, ministers and their deputies.

This week, the court heard an appeal by Justice minister Ziyambi Ziyambi against a 2022 High Court ruling giving the minister 45 days to prepare a code of conduct for the vice-president, ministers and their deputies.

This was after a law student at the Zimbabwe Ezekiel Guti University, Nyasha Chiramba, represented by Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum lawyers, had approached the court, seeking to compel the minister and the Attorney-General to initiate the drafting of the Bill envisaged under section 106 (3) of the constitution.

He argued that the vice-presidents, ministers and deputy ministers have been involved in serious cases of misconduct, including sexual harassment and abuse of state resources, to no avail. For instance, former vice-president Kembo Mohadi was forced to resign after being implicated in a sexual abuse scandal which went viral on social media.

Ziyambi and the AG argued that it was the responsibility of the President and cabinet to craft the code, a position upheld by the Supreme Court bench comprising Deputy Chief Justice Elizabeth Gwaunza with Justices of Appeal Nicholas Mathonsi and Samuel Kudya, which the Supreme Court has ruled in favour of.

Confusion In Chamisa Candidates’ Selections

By- The opposition Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) candidates selection process has been marred by confusion as the party is yet to release the candidates list only a week before Nomination Courts sit.

The purpose of the Nomination Courts is to select candidates who qualify for the Presidential, National Assembly and Local Authority categories.

CCC deputy spokesperson Gift “Ostallos” Siziba told TellZim in an interview that the candidate selection process will be completed soon after which the party will announce its candidates. He said:

The process is almost done, we will announce the list of candidates soon, our members should not be worried at all.

Siziba, however, could not give a specific date as to when the candidates will be announced but sought to assure supporters that the party has everything under control.

CCC members and supporters fear that the party’s candidates won’t have enough time to campaign especially in rural areas where ZANU PF arguably dominates the voter base.

In Masvingo Urban and Chiredzi Town, supporters were expected to vote for their preferred candidates on Saturday.

The elections were to be held through the traditional “Bereka Mwana” method where party members will stand behind their preferred candidate.

The presiding officers would manually count the people and the one with more people behind him/her would become the winner.

However, some party insiders told TellZim that winning the vote will not automatically mean the candidate wins the chance to represent the party as other nomination stages will be taken into consideration. said A source:

Nominated candidates will have to go through another stage where people are going to be elected by party supporters. They will present their manifestos to the electorate before the election.

After that, they will then be ranked and the top three will go to the next which is probably the final stage.

CCC leader Nelson Chamisa openly said he is going to sign the nomination papers for the candidates to avoid double candidates.

In Masvingo, all nominated CCC aspiring candidates were on Sunday expected to bring their papers to the cluster center where they will be taken to the independent commission which will determine who among the three top candidates is most suitable, taking into consideration scores from the four vetting stages.

Police Arrest 40 Chamisa Supporters

By-Police in Chitungwiza at the weekend arrested 39 Citizens Coalition for Change members for allegedly attacking Zanu-PF supporters.

The 39 Monday appeared in court facing the trumped-up public violence charges before a Chitungwiza magistrate.
The 39 made an application challenging their placement on remand.
The State was represented by Mr Michael Reza, Mr Malvern Mwendera, Ms Faith Simango and Mr Munyaradzi Karimazondo while the defence was represented by Mr Freddy Masarirevhu, Mr Noble Chinhano and Mr Marange from the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights.
The court heard that on June 8, at about 5pm, the accused persons allegedly proceeded to Nyatsime area, Chitungwiza where they engaged in acts of public violence.
It is the State’s case that upon arrival at Nyatsime, the accused persons destroyed ZANU PF cell offices, destroyed several houses and also assaulted members of Nyatsime community with bricks, sticks and open hands and also taking their valuables such as cash and cellphones, thereby causing destruction to property and inflicted serious injuries on them.
The State alleges the accused persons were positively identified by the complainants who were victims of the assaults.
The State also contends that the accused person’s accomplices are still at large and their release will further dampen any prospects of arresting them.

Macheso Rescues Peter Moyo

By-The late Tongai Moyo’s son, Peter Moyo, has fallen hard to the extent of failing to pay his rentals.

Peter recently appealed to Sungura musician Alick Macheso for rent money.

He requested rent money from Macheso during a family musical show at Steak House in Waterfalls last week.

The Utakataka Express band leader later said he received the money to pay his rent and more than US$500 from well-wishers after his public appeal. Said Peter:

Whenever I attend Macheso’s family shows during – month ends, I will be begging for money to pay rent.

At least if you help me with US$150, I will look for another US$150 to pay my rent.

Macheso commended Peter for opening up on his problem and pledged to assist him. He said:

Chekuvanza hapana mikore yatiri iyi, we must be sharing our problems and situations in life as is the case with Peter Moyo.

Peter, you are my son, be open, I am there for you, Tongai is not dead because we are there.

God is there watching, so just do your best and God will be there for you.

Macheso and Peter performed the song Samanyemba and Zvinoita Murudo together after his appeal.

Peter took over Utakataka Express following the death of his father on 15 October 2011.

He retained the core of the band members like Spencer Khumulani, Evidence “Baba Gari” Tarabuku and Gift “Shiga Shiga” Katulika

Is Chief Gutu A Zanu PF Member ?

Does Chief Gutu belong to one party or the other?

His ruling on Friday and many statements he makes at funerals smacks just that.

On Friday he ordered CCC Ward 38 candidate Andersen Singende to pay 4 beasts to his Zanu PF opponent and Councillor Takawira Chezhira on allegations that Singende was spreading rumours that the latter was caught red handed with a married woman. What makes the decision predetermined is that Chief Gutu did not allow Singende’s witnesses to give their accounts while all witnesses from the complainant gave evidence. Singende as the accused paid US$50 to appear before the courts. 4 beasts can fetch US$2 400 and only High Courts grant such high levels of damages for defamation. The chief must remember that a good leader is a protector of his people and not an appendage to a system that makes his people suffer!

Zanu PF Hooligans Terrorize Teachers

MASVINGO–Teachers at Guni Secondary School in Gutu South were on Wednesday last week forced to sleep in bushes after receiving death threats from a Zanu PF ward chairperson.

The threats rattled the teachers who were assaulted at an alleged Zanu PF base in 2008. A Rumhizha Secondary School teacher, Mujeyi Chamba died after being assaulted at the same base.

One of the affected teachers, Christopher Bishi Chikomo confirmed the matter to The Mirror.

He said the threat was issued by Zanu PF Gutu Ward 27 chairperson and aspiring councillor, Stephen Mawarire Muunde.

Muunde refuted the allegations when contacted for a comment.

“I am not aware of that. We did not carry anyone to acquire registration documents on that day. If anything, we want more people to join the party so we cannot be turning them away,” said Muunde.

Bishi said that equally baffling is that Deputy Provincial Education Director (PED), Micho Hove told him to follow procedure and report his case to Gutu District Schools Inspector (DSI), Ronald Muganhu.

He travelled from Man’a Business Centre early in the morning to Masvingo which is closer and cheaper than going to Mpandawana Growth Point only to be referred back to Gutu.

Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education communications director Taungana Ndoro dismissed the matter. He said a teacher at the school is angling for a political post.

“The information I have received is that the school deputy head is angling for a political post and is soliciting votes from the community. The school is not affected by that and all teachers are reporting for work,” said Ndoro.

Bishi said that his wife, Tariro was barred from getting into a Zanu PF vehicle which was carrying villagers to acquire national registration documents at Mpandawana. The vehicle was parked at Man’a Business Centre.
Muunde allegedly told her that her husband was teaching students opposition party ideologies and promised to deal with him.

Tariro warned her husband who informed school head Chipiri Man’oro who allegedly advised him to flee his house for the night. Several other teachers who declined to comment for fear of victimization also fled their houses and slept in bushes.

Man’oro who was hospitalized for three months after being assaulted in 2008 said he is not aware of the matter when contacted for a comment.

Bishi said he is living in fear of being attacked anytime… Masvingo Mirror

Egyptian Giants Al Ahly Win African Champions League

(Reuters) – Egyptian giants Al Ahly won the African Champions League after scoring a late equaliser to grab a 1-1 draw against Wydad Casablanca of Morocco in the second leg of the final on Sunday that secured a 3-2 aggregate victory.

Defender Mohamed Abdelmoneim flicked on a corner from Ali Maaloul with 13 minutes remaining, with the ball looping over the home defence and into the corner of the net to hand the Cairo club a record-extending 11th title.

After losing 2-1 in the Egyptian capital in last Sunday’s first leg, Wydad had been on course to win on the away goals rule after fullback Yahya Attiat Allah scored a 27th-minute free kick to hand the home team the lead in front of an expectant 50,000-strong crowd at Casabalanca’s Mohamed V Stadium.

Wydad were looking to complete a dream season for Moroccan football, after the heroics of their national team in reaching the World Cup semi-final in December, but the Cairo club reaffirmed their status as Africa’s top side after losing to Wydad in last year’s final.

Al Ahly have now won more than double the number of titles in Africa’s top club competition than their nearest rivals. This was their fourth successive final and sixth in the last seven editions.

Abdelmoneim’s decisive goal came as time was running out and with Wydad looking firmly in control.

Wydad’s goal evaded the defence as Attiat Allah’s free kick was missed by both attackers and defenders in the penalty area before nestling in the back of the net.

Striker Mohamed Ounajem tried to claim a touch but after watching television replays, officials credited the goal to the fullback.

Sunday’s final proved a typically testy affair, full of gamesmanship, repeated bickering with the referee and some horrendous tackling as the cacophony of noise from the Wydad fans often reached eardrum piercing decibel levels and created an intimidating atmosphere.

The smoke from flares set off in the stands caused a temporary halt midway through the second half before the game resumed against a backdrop of a green haze.

This season marked a return to a two-legged final after the last three editions had been decided by a single match.

Wydad had beaten Al Ahly 2-0 in the decider in Casablanca last year.- ZBC News

ZANU Humiliated As Harare Clerk Is Cleared

Hosiah Abraham Chisango, the town clerk for the City of Harare, was cleared on charges of perjury and criminal abuse of office by Harare Magistrate Mr. Noel Mupeiwa.

cleared…Hosiah Chisango

By authorising the destruction of a showroom constructed without a valid plan, Chisango was accused of promoting Pokugara Properties.

At the conclusion of the State case, regional magistrate Noel Mupeiwa declared Chisango, who was represented by Mr. Alec Muchadehama, not guilty of any misconduct.

He had entered a not guilty plea, arguing that since he was acting within the scope of his authority as the accounting officer, the court should not convict him.

He was charged with either perjury or criminal abuse of office.

This is Chisango’s second acquittal, coming three weeks after the High Court cleared him of a different criminal abuse of office charge in which he was accused of taking part in the sale of property in Mount Pleasant.

Mnangagwa Blasts “Colonialists”

President E.D. Mnangagwa

I recall our first meetings with Churches and Church leaders soon after our Independence. Rhodesian propaganda had painted freedom fighters darker than the devil. We were a godless lot, blue-dyed communists associated with all manner of devilry.

This Rhodesian narrative would be repeated daily and unremittingly, until a large part of the Rhodesian populace — both black and white — began to believe these blood-curdling propaganda stories mischaracterising us.

By contrast, white Rhodesia beatified itself as holy, carefully cultivating a self-image of a God-fearing civilisation created by a selfless generation of “Founders” who had come from afar, to redeem and Christianise a benighted race inhabiting a “Dark Continent”. Until the white man came, Africa was a continent living outside history; lived as a continent filled by a race which did not know God! This was the colonial narrative.

When Ian Douglas Smith declared his Unilateral Declaration of Independence (UDI), he claimed that he had “struck a blow for Christianity”, thus depicting UDI as Christian. The Anglican Church – the Church of the Settler Rhodesian State – was dutifully in tow, lending holiness to such apostate claims. That way, a colonial project by a foreign occupying power was characterised as Christian, and for the good and elevation of us Africans.

Colonialism was, thus, a God-send, not some racially oppressive system of foreign invasion and occupation.

The Church and State are inseparable

Rhodesia described itself as the last bulwark against “the black and red peril”. The “black peril” was represented by us Africans who threatened to overwhelm white civilisation through our overwhelming numbers, and by our culture described as rank heathenism.

The “red peril” represented communism whose diligent agents were “terrorists”, in this case our freedom fighters. These terrorists, so Rhodesian propaganda claimed, had been trained and “misled” by evil, foreign communist hailing from countries like the then Soviet Union, China and other progressive countries drawn from the Eastern Bloc, which supported our Liberation Struggle.

The communists had used their vile propaganda of communism to mislead an otherwise “happy” African populace grateful to be under British settler colonial rule!

Ogres of a godless creed

As events would have it, in the 1980 elections, we the so-called communist terrorists had now won a Commonwealth-supervised election, and had won it by a landslide. As a result, we had assumed the reins of Government in an independent Zimbabwe! The Patriotic Front, led by our late President, then as Prime Minister, Cde Robert Gabriel Mugabe, and Dr Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo, had to meet clerics, most of them raised on the staple of vile Rhodesian propaganda, in order to allay their deeply ingrained and held fears of us.

Only a handful of Church leaders, mostly Jesuits, had met with us as the Patriotic Front in Zambia, at the height of the Struggle. Those knew our humanity denied us by Rhodesian propaganda, and understood our cause which Rhodesia mischaracterised as foreign and communist-inspired. But these clerics were in the minority.

You also had a few missionaries who led rural parishes and, thus, had interacted with, and become exposed to, our freedom fighters operating in liberated and semi-liberated zones. Those, too, knew us and even supported our cause. Otherwise the rest of the erstwhile Rhodesian Church was led by religious figures who viewed us as ogres; figures whose view of us neatly fitted within the terrible persona created of us by Rhodesian propaganda.

I remember that in one of those early meetings, all clerics – to the person – voiced disquiet over our choice of ideology of Marxist-Leninism, which they characterised as a godless creed. They were disgusted that we, the agents of that terrible creed, had won elections, and taken over Government. We needed complete redemption! Could we not, the clerics opined, drop this godless creed for Christianity, of course, under their tutelage as Church leaders?

Healing wounds of colonialism

About the same time, our Ministry of Education, then headed by Dr Dzingai Mutumbuka, was transforming the curriculum to make our education more suited to the needs and values of a free Zimbabwe. Dr Mutumbuka worked with leading educationist-comrades like Dr Fay Chung and Sister Dr Janice Macloughlin. These comrades had developed curricula for our wartime schools. They now sought to adapt it to the needs of a free Zimbabwe, under the ZIMFEB Programme. Again, this raised more anxieties for the Church. From early colonial times, the Rhodesian Church had heavily invested in African Education; it ran the majority of schools for Africans in the country, right through to our Independence. Any changes to the curriculum, more so done by people long mischaracterised as proponents of communism – in their view a godless creed – was extremely disquieting to them.

After a long presentation by Church leaders – one by one and each representing a denomination – the message was stark and clear: our avowed ideology of Marxist-Leninism was unacceptable to the Church! When our turn came, the then Prime Minister, Cde R.G. Mugabe, rose to respond. He gave a long lesson in history, covering colonialism and the racial inequities it created, and the Liberation Struggle which that colonial rule triggered.

Later, he closed in on the issue of our choice of the ideology of Marxist-Leninism, expatiating what he understood it to mean. He also justified the Patriotic Front’s choice of it as an appropriate ideological framework for a post-Independent Zimbabwe as it sought to heal the wounds of a long colonialism, and in its quest to develop the country on egalitarian principles. He also drew parallels and similarities between our ideology and the values espoused by Africans under African communalism.

At the end of this long lecture to the clerics, he said: “We all came through Churches, to the number; we were raised by different denominations of the Christian Church, all of us in positions of leadership. I myself was raised by the Jesuits. We are practising Christians, practised Christianity even as we waged the Armed Liberation Struggle.

Ours was a just war, itself a notion developed by the Church.”

What followed next was dramatic. Cde Mugabe dipped his hands into his pocket and fished out a worn-out rosary.

He said: “This rosary has been with me throughout the war. It guided my faith and prayers daily; it still does to this day; will do so, right to my last days in this life!”

You can imagine the utter consternation from his audience at the sight of a worn-out rosary. The audience included the late Archbishop Patrick Chakaipa! Looking at the stunned clerics, the then Prime Minister declared: “If, as you say, Marxist-Leninism is godless, I say here and now: Give it a God!” That intervention changed relations between the State and the Church, laying a firm foundation to a partnership which endures to this day.

God-fearing leadership

Our struggle was led by a leadership raised by the Church. That Struggle was a just one. The State to emerge from it — the First Republic — was a God-fearing one. Its successor, the Second Republic, is God-fearing, and is built on values espoused by the Church. Our interaction with various denominations of the Zimbabwean Church is routine, and is predicated on a firm belief in a complementary partnership of State and Church. I cannot count the number of times I have held meetings with Church leaders; or even the many Church meetings I have attended and addressed, across denominations.

Last week was a turning point in this enduring relationship. As I addressed congregants at the historic Zimbabwe Grounds in Highfield, I told my God-fearing audience that our twin mantras of “Nyika inotongwa nevene vayo” and “Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo” were incomplete, and fell short of the Holy Trinity at the heart of the Church, namely, that of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. To complete that Trinity, we needed something spiritual added. I then declared: “Nyika inonamatirwa nevene vayo!”

This new mantra we have added to our other two mantras, to form a credo of the Second Republic, comes from the heart. It is deeply held. All our politics, our policies and our programmes remain incomplete and unfulfilling until and unless we give them God.

My meeting with Church leaders of our country and, as happened late last week, from our region are meant to ensure that our politics are rooted in God. This is vital as our nation goes for polls. I continue to call on our Church leaders to pray for peaceful elections: before, during and after those elections. We should never tire of sermonising for peace in our land; indeed, praying for peace for our land; pray in our national languages and through our idioms, in our hearts and minds. God will hear us.

Divine favour

We develop our country using God-given resources. Looking at mineral resources we have discovered and are exploiting since the Second Republic, there is no doubt our nation enjoys divine favour. From a paltry US$2,5 billion turnover in mining before this New Dispensation, our mining sector is peeping the US$20 billion-mark, in the five short years we have subsisted as the Second Republic.

This is unprecedented. We continue to discover more minerals, no doubt through divine guidance.

The same salutary results show in most sectors, including in agriculture and in tourism. Both draw from our God-given resources, once more echoing the need to ensure we put God at the heart of our development.

Late last week, I received an utterly lifting progress report from Driefontain Mission. Our Catholic Church has embraced our mantra of Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo, and has started applying it in the Church. Through an investment vehicle the Catholic Church has dubbed Stella Mundi, it has embarked on an ambitious agricultural and value-addition programme, which the Church envisages will be rolled out to cover the whole country. The Bishops, led by Archbishop Ndlovu, have used the Church farm at Driefontain to tease out this new concept. As at last week, they had planted over 200 hectares of wheat, under seven centre pivots. More hectarage is being planted as I write. I thank the Catholic Church leaders for this salutary venture.

What is even more significant is that the funds the Church had mobilised for the project from well-wishers overseas were impounded by some Western country which has imposed sanctions on our country! They did not give up.

They approached Government and, together, we worked out a funding package for the whole project. Now it has taken off, and is set to expand and scale-up in intervening seasons. In due course, the Church will stand on its own.

The Catholic Church story is the story of our economy and of our country.

Looking inward

They say we should never waste a good crisis. As a nation, we have decided a bad crisis wrought by sanctions should be made good by us looking inward, and by us mobilising our own God-given resources. The lesson from Driefontain shows and demonstrates a lifting symbiosis between the three mantras we have coined for ourselves; and how, through them, we invent an enduring framework for a new partnership between the State and the Church. Both institutions, after all, serve the same person created in the image of God.

MPs Debate Election License Fee

After hearing an application that claimed the required amount of money was out of reach for some candidates, the Constitutional Court issued an order that ordered Parliament to decide on election nomination fees.
On August 23, Zimbabwe will have harmonised elections, and on June 21, candidates are due to submit their paperwork to the Nomination Court.

Statutory Instrument 144 of 2022, which established nomination costs for people wishing to run for office, was published in the Government Gazette.

A presidential candidate’s gazetted fee was set at $20,000 and a member of parliament’s cost at $1,000.

The nomination costs were contested before the Constitutional Court by Devine Mhambi Hove, the head of the Nationalists Alliance Party (NAP).

The Supreme Court decided that Parliament had violated the Constitution by approving the legislative instrument 144 of 2022 without first determining whether it was in compliance with the Constitution.

Parliament was given till Friday by the court to make a decision.

Ziyambi Ziyambi, Minister of Justice, Legal, and Parliamentary Affairs, stated in a recent interview that it is anticipated that the National Assembly would debate and maybe vote on whether or not to maintain the fee.

According to Minister Ziyambi, a report on the validity of Statutory Instrument 144 of 2022 is likely to be presented by the Parliamentary Legal Committee today.

He stated that if the committee delivers a report that is neutral, the fees would stand, but if it issues a report that is negative, the committee will need to provide justification for its conclusion before lawmakers can act.

“What it means is that the Parliamentary Legal Committee (PLC) must sit and produce a report which I hope they did because they were given up to the 16th of this month to complete those processes,” said Minister Ziyambi.

“And then go with their report to Parliament and issue either a non-adverse report in which the fees will stand or they are issuing an adverse report in which Parliament will debate and vote. I think tomorrow (today) when they sit in the afternoon, we will know the position after the debate.”

He said before Parliament makes a decision on the nomination fees, the gazetted fees are still operational.

“As we speak, the fees are still standing that’s according to Constitutional Court because it said Parliament finish your processes. Statutory instrument is subsidiary legislation because it is delegated powers to make laws by Parliament,” he said.

“But once you make a statutory instrument it will start working the day that you publish it. But if Parliament decides that it is not constitutional then it falls away, so currently that statutory instrument is still in operation until Parliament meets and complete its work.”

“The Speaker will highlight the one that was given an adverse report and the chairperson of the Parliamentary Legal Committee would then read out their report indicating the reasons for issuing an adverse report on the law. Parliament will then vote whether to accept the report from PLC or allow the Statutory Instrument to stand,” he said.

Minister Ziyambi said Mr Hove jumped the gun when he took the matter to the Constitutional Court before Parliament had finalised its process.

He said the court processes had to be finalised before Parliament could act on the report.

“So, when this statutory instrument was issued, someone rushed to the courts and then Parliament said we cannot continue with our processes when the matter is before the court. So, the court said Parliament should continue with your work and issue either a non-adverse or an adverse report and complete,” he said.

Zanu-PF chief whip Cde Pupurai Togarepi said the party will take a position after the PLC makes its submissions.

“At this stage we are waiting for the Parliamentary Legal Committee to do its work as was directed by the court. The PLC will bring its position to Parliament which will then give us direction. I therefore suggest that we wait for the report from the relevant parliament committee,” said Cde Togarepi.

On the other hand, MDC Alliance chief whip Mr David Tekeshe said as the National Assembly debates the matter today, their position is that the nomination fees were too high.

“Tomorrow, we expect to be deliberating on that. It is very outrageous because it impedes other people who would be shut out on the basis that they do not have money, yet they can represent the people, so they will end up not contesting,” said Mr Tekeshe.

Constitutional lawyer Professor Lovemore Madhuku said it will be ideal for the country reverts to the past nomination fees.

He said the right to contest in elections should not be decided using money.

“They (nomination fees) take out people who would want to participate in politics. It limits political participation to the elite. You must have money to exercise your right to participate in politics and compete for the public office. With the prevailing nomination fees, if you don’t have US$20 000 you cannot even aspire to be a president. I don’t think it’s proper to say someone without money cannot be a president,” said Prof Madhuku.

Sheasham Face Disciplinary Action

Premiership debutants Sheasham have been summoned to a PSL disciplinary hearing over their failure to fulfill a league match against CAPS United on May 21.

The match, which was scheduled to take place at Mandava Stadium in Zvishavane, did not come about as Sheasham were involved in a dispute with the PSL over the banning of their home ground —Bata Stadium —from hosting top-flight matches.

Sheasham did not show up, despite efforts from both the PSL and ZIFA to try and persuade the John Nyikadzino-coached side to fulfil the fixture.

They (Sheasham) argued that their Mandava lease had expired and they also did not have resources to travel to Zvishavane for the match.

CAPS travelled for the encounter and even went through their pre-match routines, before the the match officials cancelled the game when it became apparent that Sheasham would not show up.

Soccer24 has it on good authority that the Sheasham have been summoned to a displinary hearing tomorrow at 17:30.

The Premiership newboys were irked by the decision to ban Bata Stadium after it had been given the green light by the ZIFA First Instance Body (FIB) to host league matches.

Their goalless draw with Highlanders on May 7 was even played at Bata, before the PSL overturned a decision by the FIB and banned the facility to allow renovations to complete.- Soccer24 News

We Are A God-fearing Leadership: Mnangagwa

Nyika Inotongwa, igovakwa nekunamatirwa nevene vayo!

Chief Gutu Punishes CCC Activist

Coup Haunts Kasukuwere

By- Former cabinet minister Saviour Kasukuwere has narrated how he survived 15 minutes of intense gunfire at his Harare home during the 2017 military coup that toppled late President Robert Mugabe.

Kasukuwere described the events in a yet-to-be-published book which is written in the third person narrative. Excerpts from the book quoted by NewZimbabwe.com read:

Early November 16 at exactly 0215 hours, there was a huge bang at his gate and the alarm went off and for the next 15 minutes, there was a deafening gunfire attack.

He (Kasukuwere) escaped death by a whisker as armed military men unleashed 113 rounds of live bullets onto his house.

The armed military men also fired a number of shots at a nearby ZESA electricity supply booster in a bid to cut off power from his house.

Saviour and his family survived the gruesome attack on his family home on the eve of the coup, which left deep emotional scars.

He fled from his home with his family and other colleagues crossing the Ruya River to Mozambique and then Kenya; exiled in South Africa which he now calls home.

The gruesome attack on his home and family has never been investigated up to this day.

Kasukuwere was one of those within ZANU PF’s G40 faction which was targetted during the coup.

Meanwhile, Kasukuwere is reportedly planning to run in the 23 August elections as a presidential candidate.

ZEC On Another Voters’ Roll Amid Rigging Claims

By- The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has announced that it was crafting another voters’ roll following the opposition’s complaints that some names of its officials were missing from the initial roll.

This also follows the end of the inspection exercise on June 1.

ZEC deputy chairperson Ambassador Rodney Kiwa told The Sunday Mail that the commission is currently cleaning the voters’ roll by correcting anomalies that were picked up during the inspection. Kiwa is cited as saying:

The commission would like to assure members of the public that it will rectify any anomalies that were observed during the voters’ roll inspection.

This will be done during the compilation of the final voters’ roll that shall be provided for free to prospective candidates after June 21, 2023, the day that has been fixed for nomination courts.

More than 1.17 million people physically presented themselves at over 11,000 centres to inspect the voters’ roll during the six-day nationwide exercise, while others checked their registration details virtually. Many people found their names missing from the voters’ roll upon verifying at ZEC centres or via mobile phone platforms, and others discovered that their names were moved from the polling stations in which they registered. Some have viewed these glitches as part of structural vote rigging.

Kiwa said after the Nomination Court sitting, ZEC will publish the final list of all contesting candidates on June 30, with the final figure of registered voters to be revealed after the cleaning process. Amb. Kiwa stated that the voters’ roll inspection aimed to enable verification of details and correct anomalies.

Opposition parties and civil society organisations accuse the ZEC of manipulating the voters’ roll to benefit the ruling party, ZANU PF.

Peter Moyo Falls Hard, Fails To Pay Rent

Zimbabwean Arrested In Connection With Thabo Buster’s Jail Break

The South African Police Service (SAPS) has arrested a Zimbabwean national in Johannesburg in connection with the escape from prison of Thabo Buster from Mangaung Prison.

This brings the total number of suspects arrested in connection to the prison break to nine.

The 31-year-old suspect is accused of assisting Bester also known as the “Facebook Rapist” to escape from lawful custody, and is expected to face additional charges.

The national police spokesperson, Brigadier Athlenda Mathe, has confirmed that investigations into the matter are ongoing and further arrests are possible. Mathe said:

At this stage, he faces a charge of assisting an inmate to escape from lawful custody. The suspect is likely to face more charges.

The police commissioner, General Fannie Masemola, has also expressed similar sentiments, stating that the investigation is wide and involves numerous individuals. The Insider quotes Masemola as saying:

There are no other arrests. But we are still investigating the matter, and yes we expect there will be further arrests in the matter because there are quite a lot of people that are involved in this investigations. It is quite a wide investigation and we are busy with that.

Bester, a convicted serial rapist and murderer, had successfully escaped from the MCC in May 2022 by faking his death. His accomplices, who have already appeared in court, include Nandipha Magudumana, Cornelius Sekeleni, Senohe Matsoara, Teboho Lipho, Tieho Frans Makhotsa, and Nastassja Jansen. Jansen and Sekeleni are currently out on bail, and all accused are due back in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on 25 June.

Thabo Bester and Nandipha Magudumana, were arrested in Arusha, Tanzania, in April this year while carrying multiple passports with no stamps. They were caught near the Kenyan border and appeared to be heading into another country.

Bester used Facebook to lure young women with promises of modelling and entertainment careers, only to rape, assault, and rob them. He was convicted of two rape charges and one murder charge in separate trials in 2011 and 2012 and received an effective life sentence. Bester and Magudumana had been on the run since Bester’s escape from prison. He faked his death and Magudumana, a female doctor, claimed the burned body as his “customary wife,” but it was later confirmed that the body collected by Magudumana was not Bester’s.

ANC Fires Top Zuma Ally, Ace Magashule

By-The African National Congress (ANC) expelled former Secretary-General Ace Magashule.

Magashule was found guilty of misconduct. He also failed to make submissions as to why he should not be expelled from the party after he was given seven days to do so.
In 2021, Magashule unilaterally attempted to suspend party president Cyril Ramaphosa and subsequently refused to apologise to the party’s president and its structures.
He was suspended from the ANC in the same year following corruption charges and was then forced to step aside in line with the ANC’s new rules for those facing corruption and other serious charges.
The ANC announced Magashule’s expulsion from the party in a statement released on Monday afternoon. Reads the statement:

  1. The National Disciplinary Committee (NDC) of the African National Congress (ANC) met to deliberate on charges preferred against its former Secretary-General, Comrade Ace Magashule.
  2. The NDC found Comrade Ace Magashule guilty of contravening Rules 25.17.12, 25.17.3, 12.1 and 12.2.20 of the ANC Constitution.
  3. After a guilty verdict by the NDC, Comrade Ace Magashule was allowed to show cause why he should not be expelled from the ANC. Upon the lapse of seven (7) days, the NDC had not received any representations to that effect.
  4. Consequently, the NDC confirmed the expulsion of comrade Ace Magashule from the ANC as a final sanction.
  5. This statement is made public as provided for in paragraph 64 of Appendix 3 of the ANC Constitution.

Economy Implodes

2023 VOTE CCC:

In 2016, the Zanu PF government introduced a surrogate currency called bond notes which was said to be equivalent to USD.

In 2019, the same government abandoned the parity nonsense and announced that banks can now offer market-determined rates to buy cash dollars with the bond notes or through electronic transfers.

Bond notes and electronic funds would be known as a separate currency called Real Time Gross Transfer dollars, or RTGS dollars.

Since their introduction in 2016, Zimbabwe’s surrogate currency has undergone massive devaluation, falling from an exchange rate of 1:16 in 2019 with the USD, to 1:3600 in 2023, just over a period of four years. This represents a loss of over 3500% in Zim dollar value.

As Zimbabwe approaches its next election in August this year, it is crucial to choose leaders with pro-citizen policies; those who prioritize the needs and welfare of their people, possess sound ethics and advocate for real transformation for the nation. #VoteCCC

ZEC Out To Deliver Cowdray Park To Mthuli Through Boundary Manipulation

Zanu-PF is likely to unfairly win the Cowdray Park parliamentary seat in Bulawayo province due to the opaque geographical nature of the constituency mapped by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) in its latest delimitation exercise, as well as heavy pouring of resources into the campaign of its candidate and Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube, which is tantamount to vote buying.

There are three vast wards (6, 15 and 28) in the constituency whose boundaries are not clearly specified and only stated as “unnamed” roads which could mean they go deep into the peri-urban areas of the constituency that resemble Harare South in the capital metropolitan province.

For instance, in the description of ward 6, Zec in its delimitation report said it is an area of land “bounded by a line drawn from the junction of two unnamed roads at Stand 18164 Cowdray Park Township so as to include it, then southwards along an unnamed road to its junction with an unnamed road at Stand 17391 Cowdray Park Township so as to exclude it, then generally south-eastwards along the unnamed road to its intersection with an unnamed 40 metre road at Stand 6975 Cowdray Park Township so as to include it, “then eastwards along the unnamed 40m road to its intersection with an unnamed stream, then generally northwards along the unnamed stream to a point where an imaginary line is drawn eastwards from at Stand 15524 Cowdray Park Township so as to include it, to its intersection with an unnamed stream at Stand 15565 Cowdray Park Township so as to include it, “then generally south-eastwards along the stream into its intersection with an unnamed road at Stand 15227 Cowdray Park Township so as to 9 include it, then southwards along the unnamed road to intersection with an unnamed road at Stand 14628 Cowdray Park Township so as to exclude it, “then generally eastwards along an unnamed road to its intersection with an unnamed road at Stand 14637 Cowdray Park Township so as to exclude it, then generally south-eastwards along the unnamed road to its intersection with Cowdray Park Corridor, then generally southwards along Cowdray Park Corridor to its junction with Percy Ibbotson Road at Stand 6 Cowdray Park Township so as to exclude it,”then southwards along Percy Ibbotson Road to its intersection with Bulawayo-Victoria Falls Railway Line, then generally north-westwards along Bulawayo-Victoria Falls Railway Line to junction with an unnamed road at Stand 18865 Cowdray Park Township so as to include it, “then north-eastwards along the unnamed road to its junction with an unnamed road at Stand 18164 Cowdray Park Township, the starting point.

In another vague description of Cowdray Park’s ward 15, Zex in its delimitation report says it is: “an area of land bounded by a line drawn from the intersection of Norwood Tracks and unnamed road at Stand 11038 Cowdray Park Township so as to include it and exclude Norwood Tracks, then south-eastwards along Norwood Tracks to a point where an imaginary line is drawn westward at Richmond Land Fill Site (Ngozi Mine) so as to exclude it, into an unnamed road at Stand 1325 Cowdray Park Township (Cowdray Park Secondary School) so as to include it, to its junction with an unnamed road at Stand 1307 Cowdray Park Township so as to include it, “. . . then northwards along an unnamed road to its junction with an unnamed road at Stand 1490 Cowdray Park Township so as to include it, then westwards along an unnamed road to its junction with an unnamed road at Stand 1509 Cowdray Park Township so as to include it, then southwards along an unnamed road to its junction with an unnamed road at Stand 1681 Cowdray Park Township so as to include it, then westwards along an unnamed road to its junction with an unnamed road at Stand 1680 Cowdray Park Township so as to include it, “. . . then northwards along an un named road to its intersection with an unnamed road at Stand 2061 Cowdray Park Township so as to exclude it, then westwards along an unnamed road to its intersection with Cowdray Park Corridor, then northwards along Cowdray Park Corridor to its junction with an unnamed road at Stand 14709 Cowdray Park Township so as to include it, then westwards along an unnamed road to its junction with an unnamed road at Stand 14637 Cowdray Park Township so as to include it, “then westwards along an unnamed road to its junction with an unnamed road at Stand 15220 Cowdray Park Township so as to exclude it, then generally northwards along an unnamed road to its intersection with a unnamed stream, then north-westwards along an unnamed stream to a point where an imaginary line is drawn westwards from Stand 15563 Cowdray Park Township so as to exclude it, “to its intersection with an unnamed stream at Stand 15524 Cowdray Park Township so as to exclude it, then generally southwards along an unnamed stream to its intersection with an unnamed road, then westwards along an unnamed road to its intersection with an unnamed road at Stand 16388 Cowdray Park Township so as to exclude it, then generally north-westwards along an unnamed road to its junction with an unnamed road at Stand 1739 Cowdray Park Township so as to include it, “then northwards along an unnamed road to its junction with an unnamed road at Stand 18164 Cowdray Park Township so as to exclude it, then north-eastwards along an unnamed road to its intersection with Norwood Tracks, the starting point.” The area is bounded by the following Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM Zone 35s) coordinates based on modified Clarke 1880 Spheroid Coordi nates : 19658352.11, 7781676.85; 655179.00, 7780702.58; 660201.17, 7778815.18; 658958.54, 7778930.50; 658983.46, 7779200.68; 658803.52, 7779217.16; 658778.28, 7778943.04; 658705.17, 7778950.81; 658720.38, 7779720.61; 657447.63, 7779623.69; 657418.85, 7779732.20; 656967.89, 7779731.49; 656859.20, 7779698.39; 656794.38, 7779821.66; 656379.16, 7779709.24; 656524.01, 7779372.35; 656200.14, 7779280.13; 655179.00, 7780702.58. Cowdray Park’s ward 28 is also described in a similar indefinite manner which opens chances for rigging.

The Zec delimitation report says ward 28 is: “an area of land bounded by a line drawn from the intersection of Cowdray Park Corridor and an unnamed road at Stand 4325 Cowdray Park Township so as to include it, then eastwards along the unnamed road to its intersection with an unnamed road at Stand 2061 Cowdray Park Township so as to include it, “then southwards along an unnamed road to its junction with an unnamed road at Stand 1680 Cowdray Park Township so as to exclude it, then eastwards along an unnamed road to its junction with an unnamed road at Stand 1681 Cowdray Park Township so as to exclude it, then northwards along an unnamed road to its junction with an unnamed road at Stand 1510 Cowdray Park Township so as to include it, then eastwards along an unnamed road to its junction with an unnamed road at Stand 1542 Cowdray Park Township so as to include it, “then southwards 33 along an unnamed road to its junction with an unnamed road at Stand 1307 Cowdray Park Township so as to exclude it, then eastwards along an unnamed road into an imaginary line at Stand 925 Cowdray Park Township so as to include it, to its intersection with Richmond and Norwood Tracks boundaries so as to exclude them, then southwards along the boundary of Richmond to its intersection with the proposed 40m road, then north-eastwards along the proposed 40m road to its junction with Siye-Pambili Drive, “then generally southwards along Siye-Pambili Drive to its intersection with Bulawayo-Victoria Falls Railway line, then north-westwards along Bulawayo-Victoria Falls Railway line to its intersection with Percy Ibbotson Road, then northwards along Percy Ibbotson Road to its junction with Cowdray Park Corridor, “then generally north-westwards along Cowdray Park Corridor to its intersection with an unnamed road at Stand 4325 Cowdray Park Township, the starting point.”

The area is bounded by the Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM Zone 35s) based on modified Clarke 1880 Spheroid Coordinates: 657447.63, 7779623.69; 658720.38, 7779720.61; 658705.17, 7778950.81; 658778.28, 7778943.04; 658803.52, 7779217.16; 658983.46, 7779200.68; 658958.54, 7778930.50; 660201.17, 7778815.18; 660285.85, 7778516.23; 660951.73, 7778959.76; 660143.66, 7776392.91; 659086.09, 7777147.71; 659104.12, 7777537.63. The chaotic geographical nature of Cowdray Park is one issue; the massive bankrolling of Ncube’s campaign is another.

He is drilling boreholes and mantaining roads in what translates to vote buying and Zanu-PF will be hoping to leverage on that aspect in order to harvest votes.

FAZ Manual On Retaining Mnangagwa In The August Polls Leaks

A manual for the Forever Associates Zimbabwe (FAZ), a Central Intelligence Organisation-controlled shadowy entity clandestinely and unlawfully using public resources to campaign for the re-election of President Emmerson Mnangagwa and Zanu-PF in the August general elections, details how the intelligence service is running the campaign.

The document, titled Scope of Campaign Activities, explains what should be done.

“The mainstay of this campaign is door-todoor intimate voter contact. This allows the volunteer to move from house-to-house and workplace-to-workplace, talking to individual voters one at a time. This, in turn, enables the volunteer to know the problems voters face, gauge their level of support for party and candidate, and tailor massages and campaign activities to address their concerns.  These visits must not be once-off, but must become regular to help the party to dominate and saturate the environment while denying the same to opponents,” the Faz manual says.

“Once the party has access to the voters’ roll, preferably broken down to constituencies and even to polling stations, volunteers must keep in touch with registered voters through texting and phoning. This must be done almost intrusively, as a way of maintaining intimacy. Volunteers should be in the habit of checking on the health and well-being of voters as a way of showing the party’s and candidate’s concern. This can also be used for reminding voters of important election-related events and issues, while also keeping them up to date on key developments.

“Volunteers must be available to furnish voters with the party’s and candidate’s campaign literature in their homes and workspaces. This will be done door-to-door or at community gatherings. Literature will also be distributed at markets, bus termini or shops, thus helping to expand the campaign to voters outside the volunteer’s immediate area of responsibility.

“Volunteers will administer voter education to contacts and assist those who are undocumented or aliens to acquire national registration documents and to register to vote. These interventions, which are already taking place in all constituencies nationwide, should result in a significant surge in registered voters who attribute that achievement to President ED (Mnangagwa) and Zanu-PF. Volunteers must maintain contact with people they would have assisted to register to vote or to acquire national documents so that they are not won over to the opposition’s poisonous narratives

The manual continues: “Volunteers will initiate programmes where contacts are invited to enlist their friends into networks of voters such as WhatsApp groups, teas, social clubs and interest groups, where contacts are encouraged to spread the campaign message to their friends and bring these into the fold. This will enable the campaign to grow in a snowball effect.

“Volunteers, either individually or by coming together as a team, will engage, befriend and maintain contact with these community leaders, influencers and opinion leaders as a way of authoritatively gaining, through them, the support of their followers for the party and candidate.

“Volunteers will participate in sporting, religious, political and cultural events within the Constituency and use the opportunity to learn about the community and influence individuals to support the party and candidate. They will also do the same with small but highly publicised practical social interventions, such as helping the sick, attending funerals and mitigating property losses due to fire or weather damage.

“Faz volunteers are required to intrusively access party cell registers, from party cell chairmen, and check and verify their accuracy and integrity. To this end, Faz then discretely conducts a head count of cell members, checking if they are registered to vote. If any party members or holders of positions of leadership are found not to have national documents or registered to vote, Faz, therefore, will handhold and assist all those to rectify the discrepancy under supervision.

“Faz has inbuilt structures and skills to engage in dedicated media activity, content generation, Web activity and cyber warfare focused on the party’s and candidate’s campaign. Constituency teams may request coverage for their activities whenever necessary.

“Four times monthly, on Sundays, the constituency team is required to come together and host public events at Growth Points and other population centres in the constituencies, during which people are entertained with music and movies. These shows are then interrupted at intervals to address these audiences, imparting the party’s campaign message.

“Faz volunteers, either individually or in groups, must never engage in political violence, except in self-defence for purposes of extricating themselves from an attack if one is foisted upon them. They, accordingly, must not offer themselves to be used as such or to accept instructions from any authority to engage in violence for whatever reason. It is not in Faz, the party’s or the president’s pedigree, plan, interest or desire to use violence as a campaign tool. Any Faz member who engages in acts of politically motivated violence, other than for purposes of self-defence under strictly exceptional circumstances, will be automatically expelled and deregistered from the Trust.”

Kasukuwere Writes A Book About His Escape During The November 2017 Coup

FORMER Zanu-PF political commissar and 2023 presidential aspirant Saviour Kasukuwere has narrated, in a yet-to-be-published book, how he survived 15 minutes of massive gunfire during the 2017 coup that toppled late President Robert Mugabe.

Kasukuwere was one of those within Zanu-PF’s G40 faction put on top of the military’s ‘hit-list’ at the height of the coup.

Much like how exiled former Information Minister Jonathan Moyo’s home was attacked and left riddled with bullets, Kasukuwere’s home endured 15 minutes of gunfire from the military.

He had to flee via Mozambique en route to South Africa, first via Kenya where he found refuge.

Homes of his colleagues within the faction Moyo, former Tourism Minister Walter Mzembi, Patrick Zhuwawo and former Manicaland Provincial Affairs Minister Manditawepi Chimene were also attacked during the same period.

“Early November 16 at exactly 0215 hours, there was a huge bang at his gate and the alarm went off and for the next 15 minutes, there was a deafening gunfire attack. He (Kasukuwere) escaped death by a whisker as armed military men unleashed 113 rounds of live bullets onto his house,” reads excerpts from the book which is written in the third person narrative.

“The armed military men also fired a number of shots at a nearby ZESA electricity supply booster in a bid to cut off power from his house. Saviour and his family survived the gruesome attack on his family home on the eve of the coup, which left deep emotional scars.

“He fled from his home with his family and other colleagues crossing the Ruya River to Mozambique and then Kenya; exiled in South Africa which he now calls home.

“The gruesome attack on his home and family has never been investigated up to this day.”

Details about the book are yet to be shared.

Moyo is currently holed up in Kenya despite a public apology to the ruling party Zanu-PF late last year. Mugabe’s exiled nephew Zhuwawo, with whom he penned the letter, has not been in the country since his escape on the day.

Mnangagwa’s administration is still hunting down G40 faction members, a situation that could be worsened by Kasukuwere’s bid to challenge him during August’s general elections.

State Media Exposes Mthuli Ncube

By A Correspondent| The state-owned Sunday News newspaper recently published an article that exposed the Finance Minister, Professor Mthuli Ncube, for his alleged purchase of a property in Cowdray Park, a constituency in Bulawayo.

The newspaper seemed to commend Mthuli for this action, suggesting that it would help him establish stronger connections with the constituency.

The crux of the article lies in the fact that Mthuli Ncube, a member of the Zanu PF political party, had expressed interest in a constituency that he has never been a part of previously.

This revelation raises questions about his motivations and intentions.

By purchasing a property in Cowdray Park, Mthuli Ncube seemingly aims to establish a closer relationship with the residents of the area, implying that he had not been actively involved or engaged with the constituency before.

The story highlights that Mthuli Ncube has made efforts over the past few months to engage with the Cowdray Park residents, suggesting a sudden change in his approach and priorities.

The article implies that this newfound interest may be politically motivated, potentially driven by upcoming elections or a desire to secure support from the constituency.

The exposure of Mthuli Ncube’s interest in a previously unfamiliar constituency raises questions about his sincerity, while exposing Zanu PF for imposing candidates on the electorate.

No Foul Play In Late St Mathias Tsonzo Pupil Livingstone Sunhwa’s Death, Court Rules

A Mutasa magistrate has ruled out foul play in the death of Livingstone Sunhwa, a Form Four student at St Mathias Tsonzo High School in Mutasa District, whose remains were found in a bush several months after his disappearance from the school.

The Prosecutor-General’s Office ordered an inquest into the death at Mutasa Magistrates’ Court after Livingstone’s sister, Pride Sunhwa, who was also attending school at St Mathias High School, claimed that he was assaulted by the Police and school authorities shortly before his disappearance.

In his ruling, as reported by The Manica Post, presiding magistrate Artwell Sanyatwe said evidence that had been presented before him suggested that Livingstone committed suicide by hanging. Said the magistrate:
There is no doubt that Livingstone exhibited signs of truancy, which in my view contributed to his demise in this instance.

He either could not stand the embarrassing conduct of being arrested at the school in full view of his peers or feared the worst, hence his decision to take his own life.

Detectives who dealt with the matter both testified on the findings at the scene of the recovered human remains which they said were found about a kilometre from St Mathias Tsonzo High School in a secluded and bushy area.

A piece of cloth was found hanging from a tree, which matched a broken piece of cloth found among human remains or bones. Tests were conducted to establish whether these were Livingstone’s .

Their evidence was corroborated by expert tests and analysis, although the cause of death could not be ascertained.

With that in mind, the only logical conclusion that may be drawn is that the cause of death was due to suicide by hanging.

The chain of events taken cumulatively from the time of the deceased’s arrest, being taken to the police station, then back to the school and leaving the dormitory on the following morning supports that conclusion or the findings above.

Most of the witnesses who testified before me appeared to turn a blind eye to Livingstone’s behaviour and character.

Evidence that emerged from this inquiry suggests that the deceased lacked parental care.
He was previously expelled from his former boarding school before being enrolled at St Mathias Tsonzo High School.

He was expelled from that school having stolen some food from the school’s dining room.

He also went missing from that school, only to be found after two days loitering outside the school premises.

This was exactly the same conduct at St Matthias Tsonzo High School.

There is no doubt that he exhibited signs of truancy, which in my view contributed to his demise.

Sanyatwe said his assessment of Livingstone’s sister’s statements in court and to the police were not consistent. He said:

The statement to the police alludes to the use of a police [baton] in beating Livingstone several times on the back.

It also suggests this happened in her full view and in the staff room.

On the other hand, her testimony in court suggests otherwise, that she did not perceive or witness them going to the dormitory and could see her brother, Livingstone, being beaten and thereafter could not see him until after night studies when she saw him talking to the school headmaster.

The minor sister’s statement was critical as it appears to point to foul play, hence its analysis and assessment were paramount in the determination of this matter.

The rationale was that all other witnesses’ statements did not point directly to suspected foul play as they were either not present at the school upon the deceased’s arrest, or did not perceive anything which suggest foul play.

Livingstone’s father died under unclear circumstances while working in a mine in Mozambique.

Selina Tadya, who is the mother of Livingstone and Pride, lost her husband almost a decade ago and said was looking up to Livingstone to be the father figure for the family in future.

Tadya was based in South Africa where she was working while her two children were borders at St Mathias Tsonzo.

Former Italian Prime Minister, AC Milan Owner Silvio Belusconi Dies Aged 86

Silvio Berlusconi, the former Italian PM who bounced back from sex scandals and corruption allegations, has died aged 86.

He died at the San Raffaele hospital in Milan, according to Italian media.

In April he was treated for a lung infection linked to a previously undisclosed case of chronic leukaemia.

A flamboyant billionaire media tycoon, Berlusconi first came to office in 1994 and led four governments until 2011.

He led the centre-right Forza Italia party which went into coalition under Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni after elections in September, when he was himself elected to Italy’s upper house, the Senate.

Cornered Workers Agitate For Nationwide Strike Following Collapse Of Zim Dollar

Workers unions are agitating for a nationwide strike over the continued economic implosion that has been characterised by the spectacular collapse of the Zimbabwe dollar.

The country is facing its worst economic crisis since 2008 as the local currency continues on a nosedive, driving the process of basic commodities beyond the reach of many.

Union leaders and workers met at a local hotel in the capital on Friday where they discussed the collapse of the local currency and the urgent need for dollarisation.

The workers were addressed by labour leaders including Peter Mutasa, a former Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions president, Munyaradzi Gwisai of the Zimbabwe Labour Center and Obert Masaraure, the leader of the Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe .

“The continued payment of salaries in local currency is an affront to labour justice for the workers in Zimbabwe,” Masaraure told The Standard.

Workers in the private and public sector are now pushing for United States dollar salaries to make ends meet.

As of yesterday, the local currency reintroduced in 2019 after a decade of dollarisation, was trading at $7 000 against US$1 at the black market rate and $5 000 using the interbank rate.

“The bosses and government are ganging up to extract maximum surplus value from the workers through paying salaries in a useless currency,” Masaraure said.

“All the big profits being declared by big corporates are part of the unpaid labour rendered by workers.

“The multiple currency reforms undertaken by the government are perfectly designed to force employees to sweat it out for the luxuries of the bosses.

“A national outreach will be conducted to build consensus among all people as we prepare to strike big.

“The bosses and government are warned to play ball before the wrath of the workers is unleashed on them.”

Zanu PF spokesperson Christopher Mutsvangwa was not picking calls and had not responded to questions sent to him in writing by the time of going to print.

Political analyst Freedom Mazwi said there was a need for deep-rooted solutions to solve the country’s economic problems.

“The recent economic implosion in Zimbabwe calls for critical analysis followed by action in order to rescue the economy,” Mazwi said.

“It would be a grave mistake to reduce the current crisis to political failure as has been suggested by some analysts and political actors.

“The issues are quite deeper and broader hence the emphasis on longue duree approach.”

“The solution to the economic crisis requires all stakeholders to agree on diagnosis and prognosis,” Mazwi said.

A new survey by Sivio Institute revealed  the majority of citizens believe President Emmerson Mnangagwa is the cause of their suffering.

The findings of the survey show that 57% of the citizens feel that the performance of the central government since 2018 was low, while 40% felt that its performance around the resuscitation of industry was “non-existent”.

The survey by Sivio Institute also showed that the majority of citizens felt that the quality of service provision had decreased, and 48% felt that the government’s performance on stabilising prices had decreased.

Corruption emerged as the leading factor which has constrained the performance of the central government.

Unveiling the Paradox: ZANU PF’s Social Media Dominance vs. Electoral Defeats

By Prof. Zhong Tar | ZimEye | ZANU PF, the Zimbabwe African National Union – Patriotic Front, has a unique presence in the political landscape of Zimbabwe. The party, which has ruled the country since its independence in 1980, showcases a perplexing dichotomy when it comes to its online presence versus real-life electoral outcomes. While ZANU PF projects an aura of power and dominance on social media platforms, its performance in actual elections has consistently resulted in defeat. This article aims to delve into the reasons behind this paradox, exploring the factors that contribute to ZANU PF’s inability to translate its online influence into electoral success.

1. Social Media: A Platform for Influence:
Social media platforms have undoubtedly transformed the way political parties engage with the public. ZANU PF has embraced this medium with great enthusiasm, utilizing it as a powerful tool to disseminate its message, mobilize support, and counter opposition narratives. On platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, and WhatsApp, the party has built a formidable online presence, which often appears invincible to its adversaries.

2. Manipulation and Control:
ZANU PF’s mastery of social media is partly attributed to its ability to manipulate online discourse. The party is known for deploying an army of loyal supporters who are trained to promote its agenda, suppress dissenting voices, and disseminate propaganda. These digital foot soldiers inundate social media platforms with pro-ZANU PF content, creating an illusion of mass support and influencing public opinion. This concerted effort can be intimidating and give the impression that the party is unbeatable.

3. Repression and Fear Tactics:
However, the discrepancy between ZANU PF’s social media prowess and its electoral outcomes is rooted in the broader sociopolitical context of Zimbabwe. The ruling party has a long history of employing repressive tactics, intimidating opposition supporters, and curbing dissent. In the real world, away from the relative anonymity of social media, ZANU PF’s tactics face greater scrutiny. Instances of voter intimidation, electoral fraud, and suppression of opposition voices have been well-documented and have eroded public trust in the electoral process.

4. Economic Mismanagement and Public Dissatisfaction:
Beyond its political strategies, ZANU PF’s consistent electoral defeats can also be attributed to its performance in governance. The party has been marred by accusations of corruption, economic mismanagement, and failure to address the needs of ordinary Zimbabweans. Despite its online narrative, the ground reality of Zimbabwe’s stagnant economy, high unemployment rates, and widespread poverty has created discontent among the populace, which manifests itself during elections.

5. The Resilience of the Opposition:
Another crucial factor in ZANU PF’s electoral defeats is the resilience of the opposition parties. Over the years, the opposition, particularly the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC), has grown stronger, gaining momentum and support from a significant portion of the population. The opposition has managed to maintain a cohesive front, galvanizing dissent against ZANU PF’s rule and capitalizing on public frustration with the ruling party’s governance.

ZANU PF’s dominance on social media stands in stark contrast to its electoral track record since 1980. While the party thrives in the digital realm, projecting power and suppressing opposition voices, it consistently faces challenges and defeats in the real world. The party’s success in controlling online narratives and employing fear tactics is counterbalanced by its history of repressive tactics, economic mismanagement, and public dissatisfaction. Ultimately, ZANU PF’s inability to convert its online influence into electoral victories underscores the resilience of the opposition and the yearning for change among Zimbabweans.

SADC, AU Petitioned To Sanction Mnangagwa Ally

Anti-corruption watchdogs have petitioned the Southern African Development Community (Sadc), the African Union (AU) and the United Nations (UN) to sanction President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s special envoy Uebert Angel for allegedly abusing his diplomatic status.

The Anti-Corruption Trust of Southern Africa (ACT-SA) and the Zimbabwe Women against Corruption Trust (ZWACT) made the call in a joint mini report on how transnational organised crime syndicates work, citing the Al Jazeera expose on gold smuggling and money laundering.

Their report titled: Fighting Transnational Organised Crime (TOC): The Case of the Zimbabwean Gold Mafia explains how and why gold mafias managed to steal the country’s resources.

In the Al Jazeera documentary, Angel was recorded by undercover journalists offering to use his status to launder millions of dollars through a gold-smuggling scheme.

“Sadc, AU and UN member states hosting diplomats abusing diplomatic immunity and privileges should consider sanctioning the rogue diplomats,” the anti-corruption watchdog said in their report.

The report was researched and written by ACT-SA director Obert Chinhamo and ZWACT leader Sandra Matendere.

The Civil Society Organisations Initiative for Stolen Asset Recovery in Southern Africa (CSO-ISARSA) and the Zimbabwe Civil Society Anti-Corruption Coalition (ZCSACC) provided additional review and editorial work on the final production.

“ACT-SA, ZWACT, members of the ZCSACC and the CSO-ISARSA are increasingly concerned about the phenomenon of transnational organised crime and how it is used by its protagonists to cement power at the detriment of the world citizenry,” reads the report.

Angel also claimed that their laundering operations had the approval of the presidency.

“We hope that relevant authorities will investigate and take punitive action against all those fingered in the underworld and upper world gold smuggling, money laundering and corruption,” the report reads.

“Countries of destination of the dirty gold and/or where individuals and entities implicated reside or operate from should cooperate and investigate all individuals and entities implicated in the scandal.

Authorities in Dubai, Zimbabwe and South Africa should all utilise the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC) provisions on mutual cooperation, investigating and punishing individuals and entities implicated in gold smuggling and money laundering.

“Government should take necessary measures within its means to safeguard or protect natural resources.”

The UNCAC is the only legally binding universal anti-corruption instrument.”

Government should put into action at the country level the implementation of the Accelerated IFF Agenda and the UN Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) seeking to address illicit financial flows (IFFs) to ensure that African economic resources support African economic growth — and that growth improves living standards for all,” read the report.

Government was initially mum on the Al Jazeera expose, with some officials dismissing it as propaganda.

There was a public outcry that forced government into a major climb-down, promising to investigate the scandal.

Assessing the Likelihood of ZANU PF President Emmerson Mnangagwa Appealing to School Children

By Learnmore Magorimbo | Emmerson Mnangagwa, the President of Zimbabwe and leader of the Zimbabwe African National Union – Patriotic Front (ZANU PF), has a challenging task ahead of him if he intends to appeal to school children. Zimbabwe’s education system has faced numerous challenges over the years, with tragic consequences for many students. Additionally, Mnangagwa’s controversial “brick by brick” statement, which appeared to mock students studying on makeshift structures, has deeply insulted and alienated a significant portion of the school-going population. In this article, we will analyze the chances of President Mnangagwa ever successfully appealing to school children, taking into account the historical context and the impact of his previous remarks.

  1. The Tragic Loss of Students since 1983:
Zimbabwe’s history is marked by unfortunate events, including the Gukurahundi massacres in the 1980s, which resulted in the loss of many innocent lives, including school children. The wounds from this period still run deep within the Zimbabwean society, making it incredibly challenging for President Mnangagwa, who served in the government during that time, to gain the trust and support of those affected. The memories of the deceased students, their families, and the communities they belonged to are likely to hinder any attempts by Mnangagwa to connect with current school children.
  2. Insensitivity of the “Brick by Brick” Statement:
President Mnangagwa’s “brick by brick” statement, made in reference to students studying in dilapidated classrooms or under makeshift structures, has created significant controversy and anger among the public. The statement appeared to trivialize the struggles faced by students and showcased a lack of empathy towards their plight. Such insensitive remarks not only insulted the students but also undermined the urgency to address the dire state of Zimbabwe’s education infrastructure. Consequently, a large number of school children and their parents view the statement as a mockery, further eroding any possibility of Mnangagwa appealing to this demographic.
  3. Rebuilding Trust and Addressing Education Challenges:
For President Mnangagwa to have any chance of appealing to school children, he must acknowledge the historical pain and suffering endured by students and their families. This involves actively working towards reconciliation and ensuring justice for the victims of past atrocities. Additionally, Mnangagwa’s government must prioritize the improvement of education infrastructure, addressing the critical shortage of resources and facilities in schools across the country. Implementing tangible reforms that demonstrate a genuine commitment to the welfare of students would be crucial in rebuilding trust and restoring faith in the government’s education policies.
  4. Engagement, Empathy, and Inclusive Policies:
To appeal to school children, President Mnangagwa needs to adopt an approach that fosters engagement, empathy, and inclusivity. This involves actively listening to the concerns and needs of students, promoting open dialogue, and incorporating their input into policy decisions. By actively involving young people in shaping the educational landscape, Mnangagwa can demonstrate his commitment to addressing their challenges and ensuring a brighter future for Zimbabwe’s youth.

The chances of Emmerson Mnangagwa ever appealing to school children, who have either suffered tragic losses since 1983 or been insulted by his “brick by brick” statement, appear slim. Rebuilding trust and addressing the historical wounds inflicted upon the student population will require significant efforts, including acknowledging past atrocities and implementing substantial education reforms. President Mnangagwa must exhibit empathy, engage with students, and develop inclusive policies that prioritize their well-being and educational needs. Only through such measures can he hope to connect with school children and gain their support in rebuilding Zimbabwe’s education system.

A Comparative Analysis of Nelson Chamisa, Ian Smith, and Emmerson Mnangagwa: The Significance of Their Births in Zimbabwe.

By Farai D Hove | Zimbabwe’s history is marked by diverse leaders who have shaped the nation’s trajectory in significant ways. Three prominent figures who were born in Zimbabwe, namely Nelson Chamisa, Ian Smith, and Emmerson Mnangagwa, have each played distinctive roles in the country’s political landscape. In this article, we will analyze the significance of their births and delve into the impact they have had on Zimbabwean society.

1. Nelson Chamisa:
Nelson Chamisa, born on February 2, 1978, in Gutu, Zimbabwe, emerged as a prominent figure within the opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) party. Chamisa’s birth during the final years of Ian Smith’s white minority rule and the subsequent transition to majority rule under Robert Mugabe represents the beginning of a new era in Zimbabwean politics. Chamisa’s youthfulness and charismatic leadership style resonated with the younger generation, revitalizing the opposition movement and challenging the long-standing dominance of ZANU-PF.

2. Ian Smith:
Ian Smith, born on April 8, 1919, in Selukwe, Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe), symbolizes an earlier era in Zimbabwe’s history. He became the Prime Minister of the unilaterally declared independent state of Rhodesia in 1965, defying international pressures for majority rule. Smith’s birth in colonial Rhodesia underscores the deep-seated roots of white minority rule and the subsequent struggle for independence. His policies and obstinate resistance to change contributed to years of political unrest and armed resistance, leading to the Lancaster House Agreement and eventual independence.

3. Emmerson Mnangagwa:
Emmerson Mnangagwa, born on September 15, 1942, in Zvishavane, Zimbabwe (though grown up in Zambia), represents a pivotal figure in Zimbabwean politics, both during the liberation struggle and in the post-independence era. Mnangagwa’s birth coincided with a period of heightened nationalist fervor and the rise of revolutionary movements seeking to end colonial rule. Calling self “The Crocodile” an attempt to ascribe for himself political shrewdness, Mnangagwa played a key role in the liberation war, holding various positions within ZANU-PF, including the vice presidency under Robert Mugabe. Eventually, he succeeded Mugabe as president in 2017, promising a new era of economic reform and political stability.

Significance of Their Births:
The births of these three individuals in Zimbabwe have significant historical and political implications. Chamisa’s emergence as a young opposition leader represents the hopes and aspirations of a generation seeking change and a departure from the ruling party’s long-held grip on power. Smith’s birth, on the other hand, encapsulates the era of white minority rule, highlighting the racial dynamics that shaped Zimbabwe’s struggle for independence. Lastly, Mnangagwa’s birth coincided with the rise of the nationalist movement and his subsequent role in both the liberation struggle and post-independence governance.

The births of Nelson Chamisa (Zimbabwe), Ian Smith (Zimbabwe), and Emmerson Mnangagwa ( Zambia) have had a profound impact on the nation’s political landscape. Each figure represents a distinct era and set of ideologies, reflecting the diverse historical forces that have shaped Zimbabwe’s trajectory. Chamisa’s youthful energy, Smith’s legacy of colonial resistance, and Mnangagwa’s involvement in both liberation and post-independence governance have left lasting imprints on the country. Understanding the significance of their births helps us gain insights into the complex political dynamics of Zimbabwe and its ongoing journey towards progress and stability.

Winky-D-and-Jah-Prayzah

By Champion Jeffery Hwenda | Jah Prayzah, a renowned Zimbabwean musician known for his captivating music and lyrical prowess, has long been associated with President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration. However, in a surprising turn of events, rumors have circulated about his potential departure from the ruling party to join Nelson Chamisa’s opposition Citizens Coalition for Change movement. This article explores the possible consequences and opportunities that could arise if Jah Prayzah were to make such a significant shift in his political alignment.

1. Expanded Fan Base:

One immediate advantage Jah Prayzah would gain by aligning with Nelson Chamisa is the opportunity to tap into a broader fan base. The CCC, led by Chamisa, boasts a considerable following, particularly among the younger demographic. By associating himself with the opposition party, Jah Prayzah would likely attract new listeners who resonate with Chamisa’s vision and ideologies, thereby expanding his reach and popularity.

2. Enhanced Artistic Freedom:

Under President Mnangagwa’s rule, artists in Zimbabwe have faced limitations on their creative expression, with certain topics or themes being deemed sensitive or inappropriate. Joining the opposition movement could provide Jah Prayzah with greater artistic freedom, allowing him to address social and political issues more candidly in his music. This newfound freedom could empower him to produce thought-provoking songs that resonate deeply with the Zimbabwean population, potentially increasing his influence as an artist.

3. Collaboration Opportunities:

Aligning with Nelson Chamisa and the CCC would expose Jah Prayzah to a network of like-minded artists, activists, and intellectuals who are passionate about driving positive change in Zimbabwe. This alliance could open doors for collaborations with other prominent musicians, both locally and internationally, who share the same vision of a prosperous and democratic Zimbabwe. Such collaborations could catapult Jah Prayzah’s career to new heights and enable him to make a more significant impact through his music.

4. Humanitarian Initiatives:

Joining the opposition movement would offer Jah Prayzah an opportunity to engage in meaningful humanitarian initiatives. The CCC, with its focus on social justice and economic reform, actively works towards uplifting marginalized communities in Zimbabwe. By aligning with Chamisa, Jah Prayzah could leverage his influence and resources to support initiatives aimed at poverty alleviation, education, healthcare, and infrastructure development. This involvement would not only positively impact the lives of many Zimbabweans but also enhance Jah Prayzah’s public image as a socially conscious artist.

5. International Exposure:

Nelson Chamisa’s CCC enjoys considerable international recognition and support from the global community. Jah Prayzah’s association with the opposition movement could provide him with increased exposure on the international stage. This, in turn, may lead to opportunities for international tours, collaborations with renowned musicians from different parts of the world, and participation in high-profile cultural events. The international exposure would not only elevate Jah Prayzah’s career but also shed light on the challenges faced by artists in Zimbabwe, amplifying the voice of the nation’s creative community.

Conclusion:

Should Jah Prayzah choose to leave Emmerson Mnangagwa’s camp and join Nelson Chamisa’s opposition movement, several exciting opportunities could emerge for the talented Zimbabwean musician. With an expanded fan base, enhanced artistic freedom, collaboration prospects, humanitarian initiatives, and increased international exposure, Jah Prayzah’s career could take a transformative trajectory. However, it’s important to note that these opportunities are contingent on numerous factors and the volatile nature of politics. Nonetheless, the potential synergy between Jah Prayzah’s artistry and the opposition movement

‘s aspirations for a better Zimbabwe presents an intriguing prospect for both the singer and his fans.

Kasukuwere Rally: We’re In Politics For Life

EDITORIAL ANALYSIS
Analyzing the Electoral Prospects: Saviour Kasukuwere vs. Nelson Chamisa in the 2023 Elections.

Introduction:
The upcoming 2023 elections in Zimbabwe are shaping up to be a crucial moment in the country’s political landscape. With two prominent figures vying for power, Saviour Kasukuwere and Nelson Chamisa, it is essential to analyze their abilities to garner electoral support and assess their potential to secure victory. While Chamisa enjoys a significant advantage with over 85% of the electorate behind him, Kasukuwere’s base consists primarily of selectors and elite upper-class supporters. This article will delve into their backgrounds, political standing, and the implications they may have on the electoral outcome.

Background:
Nelson Chamisa has emerged as a prominent opposition figure in Zimbabwe. As the leader of the Movement for Democratic Change Alliance (MDC-A), he has successfully mobilized a substantial following across the country. Chamisa’s popularity largely stems from his charismatic leadership style, youthful energy, and promises of democratic reform and economic revitalization. His strong grassroots support and appeal to the younger generation have bolstered his chances of assuming power.

On the other hand, Saviour Kasukuwere’s entrance into presidential politics carries a sense of uncertainty. Formerly a powerful figure within the ruling ZANU-PF party, Kasukuwere was the major irritant to the rebellious military in 2017, which ultimately led to the removal of Robert Mugabe. Consequently, Kasukuwere is viewed as Mugabe’s potential successor and has occupied influential positions within the ZANU-PF, such as political commissar. However, some argue that Kasukuwere’s involvement in the political arena may be part of a strategy to dilute Nelson Chamisa’s support base, as suggested by media expert Pedzisayi Ruhanya.

Electoral Dynamics:
In terms of electoral power, Nelson Chamisa undeniably holds a significant advantage. With over 85% of the electorate supporting him, his grassroots appeal and extensive mobilization efforts have allowed him to gain widespread popularity. Chamisa’s message of change and reform resonates with many Zimbabweans, particularly the disillusioned youth, who view him as a symbol of hope for a brighter future.

In contrast, Saviour Kasukuwere’s support base primarily consists of selectors and members of the elite upper class. This limited electoral backing poses a challenge for his presidential bid. Zimbabwe has historically operated under a system that privileges the elite and the deep state cluster, disregarding the one man, one vote principle. However, this system, though unpopular, has consistently maintained power regardless of opposition. Kasukuwere’s reliance on this traditional power structure may limit his ability to garner broader popular support.

Implications and Potential Outcomes:
Kasukuwere’s entrance into presidential politics carries inherent risks. While there is a chance that electors may favor him over the relatively junior Chamisa, the odds are stacked against him. It is plausible that Kasukuwere’s candidacy might inadvertently benefit Chamisa by splitting the ruling party’s support base. Similar to the impact Simba Makoni had in the 2008 elections, where he managed to damage then-President Robert Mugabe’s support base, Kasukuwere might find himself unable to gather substantial support beyond a small percentage, thus becoming an asset to Chamisa’s campaign.

Conclusion:
The 2023 elections in Zimbabwe will undoubtedly be a critical juncture for the country’s political trajectory. Nelson Chamisa’s broad support base, charismatic leadership, and promises of democratic reform and economic revitalization have positioned him as a formidable contender. On the other hand, Saviour Kasukuwere’s entrance into presidential politics remains shrouded in uncertainty, as his reliance on the traditional power structure and limited electoral backing pose significant challenges.

“Olinda Chapel Thoroughly Bashed By Tyson, Oops Tallyn, I’m Telling”

Zimbabweans mock felebrity Olinda Chapel over her claims that she was assaulted by Tyson, oops Talyn Ndudzo in Birmingham at the weekend.

OLINDA CHAPEL’S POLICE REPORT REJECTED BY COPS.

A caricature of Olinda Chapel

By Showbiz Reporter | Birmingham | The below is a transcript of the full police report by Oxford based sociallite Olinda Chapel over an incident she alleges involved assaults against her on Saturday evening by relationship ‘doctor’ Talyn Ndudzo.

Olinda Chapel: The police are here. Good evening!.

Officer: What’s going on?

Olinda: I am not okay. I am very upset. We had a meeting scheduled this afternoon, I don’t live here, I live in Oxford, I am a businesswoman.

Officer: Okay.

Olinda: We had an event a meeting that we were planning, that was scheduled for this afternoon at 3 in the afternoon. She couldn’t make it at 3, she changed it to 9.30. She couldn’t make it for 9.30, so I went booked a hotel, and I went to sleep. My phone goes on automatic do not disturb on 10 o clock, so that I… no one calls after hours.

The only people that can ring me are my emergency contacts, like my children. My oldest then called me and said mum she is finally here because she was late because of the detours, right? I was literally sleeping. I even said let’s have the meeting at breakfast because it is late at night. Correct.

I get here then they just insisted let’s have the meeting and I said okay, let’s just come and I get dressed. I got here, I find this girl Talyn, that I have very bad history with from.

Officer: Called?

Olinda: By the name Talyn, Talyn, the one that’s just hit me.

Leo: No one got hit, I was l …. (sic)

Olinda: You what? No one got hit [AFFIRMATION].

Leo: Right, basically,

Olinda: Hold on, sorry, Leo step out of this.

Officer: Right, you speak to me, you speak to me.

Olinda: Don’t say, no one got hit, I’ve got bruises on me.

Don’t say no one got hit, when she was hutting Dexter. Leo, if you lie, if you lie, trying to protect this girl, this is not right.

Officer: Speak to me.

Olinda: As you can see I’ve got bruises on my hands, like literally there, under my cheek and what do you call this? Where she came to me and she punched me by the bar. I grabbed my bag to leave because I said I am not going to speak qith this girl, I don’t do business with this girl. I don’t associate with her, I need to leave.

I got my bag to leave, she decided to start attacking me. When she started attacking me, all these other guys including the person that owns this building, that owns this restaurant came in front of her and she started hitting him instead because he was protecting me, right? The shevmamaged ti slplip away from everybody, then she did, what do you call this? I was beside the second bar, because there is another exit. She came again and she started attacking me. Now she had 3 guys,3 or 4 guys trying to restrain her . She was screaming and shouting; even her own Officer that was on the phone could hear her, saying: you’ve got HIV! You are this, you are that. Screaming, being discriminated against. In that restaurant, and your own Officer that took the 999 call heard her on the phone. She was erratic. She was grabbing knives in this restaurant. She was grabbing knives and glasses trying to attack me. There is CCTV in that whole building, that’s when I called the police and I had to use the back entrance to come out using that entrance, for me to leave the building. She is in there right now.

Officer: Okay.

Olinda: So I am pressing charges for assault, for GBH whatever it is, the discrimination against my disability that to me it’s a protected characteristic, whatever law that is there against it, I am very serious, because I feel trapped. I felt the fact that I was called out here to be attacked, yet I had refused. I have got missed calls on my phone; people calling me, asking me to come for a meeting at this hour, only for me to walk in within 3 minutes I am being attacked for what? It’s not on.

Officer: Okay right. So she is in there right?

Olinda: She is in there and I caught it, and all her erratic behaviour, it’s on Facebook live when she was behaving the way she was behaving there, it’s all on video. And Leo don’t lie, because it’s all video, it was on facebook live everything she was doing.

……..

I’ve got bruises in my mouth right now, my gums are bleeding.

………

Leo, don’t lie, Leo do not lie to protect Talyn, because I’ve got it on video.

……….

This is me, look at this; cuts and bruises on my mouth. That’s just literally happened, you can see them yourself. I can’t believe Leo is doing this… – ZimEye

“CCC is Causing Havoc And Inflation” said Big Spender

indepth...Wilbert Mukori

By Wilbert Mukori | During elections, President Mnangagwa becomes Mr Bigger Spender! Anyone who is anyone gets something from Mr Big Spender.

Village hears got motorcycles plus free public service medical aid membership. Chiefs got the traditional new twin-cab trucks plus lavish new home steads. CIO directors and judges, whose role in the vote rigging is crucial, have receive US$400 000 housing loans. Zanu PF parliamentary candidates in these elections got new twin-can trucks,  etc. Even the teachers and nurses have finally got a wage increase, after years of endless negotiations. They got 100% wage increase with the low ranking Army, Police, CIO and Prison Services getting a differential 400%.

Where is Mr Big Spender getting all this money from? From all the wholesale looting of the nation’s resources, all those benefiting the looting are bankrolling the Zanu PF vote rigging juggernaut. And then there is the option of printing more and more local currency, the Z$!

The increase in the local currency without a corresponding increase in wealth is the essence of inflation and therefore it was no surprise the prices of goods and services started to soar and the value of the Z$ started to fall compared to the US$. Within a matter of a few weeks the exchange rate from Z$200 to Z$ 600 to US$1.00.

The regime first blame the business owners and the street corner money traders. It has gone up the gears; it is now blaming the opposition and the West!

“We in Zanu-PF are building this country while some opposition parties supported by their Western handlers are causing suffering to our people through sanctions and the attack on our currency,” President Mnangagwa to Zanu PF supporters in Masvingo.

“We are aware of those bent on causing havoc in the country by attacking our currency, they will never succeed, and they want our minerals. They want citizens to get frustrated and rise against the Zanu-PF party. They are fighting to take advantage of manufactured poverty.

“These detractors and their surrogates have never had the people of Zimbabwe at heart, our mass revolutionary party is the only party with a vision for the future.”

In a country where the ruling party rigs elections, it can say whatever it wants, blame everyone else except itself for all the country’s ills, promise the moon on a silver platter, etc., etc. Nothing matters because it is not democratically accountable to anyone. Come elections it will rig, secure its iron grip on political power and to continue to do as it damn well please!

I blame the opposition for the country’s sorrow state of economic and political affairs. MDC leaders had the golden opportunity to implement the democratic reforms to ensure free, fair and credible elections. As long as Zanu PF is able to rig the elections and impose itself on the nation the party will stifle all meaningful debate on the economy, politics and everything under the sun.

Lest we forget, MDC leaders had the golden opportunity to implement the democratic reforms during the 2008 to 2013 GNU and they sold out. They failed to implement even one token reform in five years. Worse still, MDC/CCC have been participating in these flawed elections to give Zanu PF legitimacy and thus perpetuating the dictatorship.

What makes Zimbabwe’s political situation infuriating is that MDC/CCC leaders know it is futile participating in these flawed elections only to give Zanu PF legitimacy but they continue doing so regardless out of selfish greed!

“The worst aspect for me about the failure to agree a coalition was that both MDCs couldn’t now do the obvious – withdraw from the (2013) elections,” confessed Coltart in his Book, The Struggle Continues 50 years of Tyranny in Zimbabwe.

“The electoral process was so flawed, so illegal, that the only logical step was to withdraw, which would compel SADC to hold Zanu PF to account. But such was the distrust between the MDC-T and MDC-N that neither could withdraw for fear that the other would remain in the elections, winning seats and giving the process credibility.”

If Zimbabwe was a healthy and functioning democratic country is which there was healthy public debate on issues, of course, many people will know by now that corruption, not sanctions, is the number one cause the country’s economic meltdown.

A few weeks ago an Al Jazeera documentary revealed that Zimbabwe is losing a US$1.6 billion per year to gold smugglers or 80% of its gold. In 2016 the late dictator Robert Mugabe admitted the country had been swindled out of US$15 billion in diamond revenue. He did not say over what period but many believe in five years or so. And so Zimbabwe is losing a staggering US$4.6 b every year to gold and diamond smugglers alone or 17% of its US$28 billion GPD. No nation can expect that level of looting and expect to survive much less prosper.

But most important of all the people would have voted for regime change decades ago!

Zimbabwe is a failed state, 43 years of this corrupt, tyrannical Zanu PF dictatorship has left the country in economic ruins. The state is failing to provide even the most basic services such as education, health care and clean running water. 49% of the country’s population is now living in abject poverty.

The prospect of Zanu PF rigging the 2023 elections and thus extend the regime’s stay in power to continue riding roughshod of the people’s rights, hopes and dreams is simply too gustily to contemplate. And yet this is a political certainty given CCC are hell bent on participating in these flawed elections for 30 pieces of silver. – SOURCE: zimbabwelight.blogspot.com

Mnangagwa Not Going Anywhere- Chadzamira

By A Correspondent

The Zanu PF leader Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa has said the party is well-known for spilling blood.

Addressing thousands of Zanu PF supporters, mainly first time voters, at Mucheke Stadium in Masvingo on Friday, Mr Mnangagwa said the former revolutionary party was stronger than ever and ready to win polls.

“We are the only party that has people’s interests at heart.

We have a record of fighting for the people’s freedom since the days of the liberation struggle.

As you know, we are known for fighting and even spilling blood like what happened during the war of liberation,” said Mnangagwa.

He also threatened to deal with people he described as economic saboteurs.

“Vote for the ruling party, not those who will never rule this country. We are in charge.

We know what is happening, the western countries are working with the opposition in a bid to remove us from office.

Business owners be warned, we know that you are working with the opposition to discredit the new dispensation.

These people( business owners) are manipulating prices of basic commodities but we will put them in their right place.”

Speaking at the same rally, Masvingo Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Ezra Chadzamira described Mnangagwa as an indefatigable and invincible political figure.

“Baba Mnangagwa will rule for ever, pasi neChafa Chisati Chatanga.

We are not going anywhere. There is lot of work to do and we will finish all projects currently underway,” declared Chadzamira.

Zimbabwean Arrested for Assisting Bester Jail Escape

In connection with the Thabo Bester jail escape case, police have made another arrest.
According to Brig Athlenda Mathe, a police spokesperson, a 31-year-old male from Zimbabwe was detained on Sunday in Johannesburg.

“At this stage, he faces a charge of assisting an inmate to escape from lawful custody. The suspect is likely to face more charges.”

Mathe said nine people have been arrested in the case so far.

The man is expected to appear in the Bloemfontein magistrate’s court on Tuesday.

“The possibility of police effecting more arrests cannot be ruled out.”

Last week national police commissioner Fanie Masemola told media more arrests were expected in the case, which also involves Bester’s partner, Dr Nandipha Magudumana.

“We are investigating … there are a lot of people involved in this investigation.” – Timeslive

About Asthma

Key facts

Asthma is a major noncommunicable disease (NCD), affecting both children and adults, and is the most common chronic disease among children.

Inflammation and narrowing of the small airways in the lungs cause asthma symptoms, which can be any combination of cough, wheeze, shortness of breath and chest tightness.
Asthma affected an estimated 262 million people in 2019 (1) and caused 455 000 deaths.

Inhaled medication can control asthma symptoms and allow people with asthma to lead a normal, active life.
Avoiding asthma triggers can also help to reduce asthma symptoms.
Most asthma-related deaths occur in low- and lower-middle-income countries, where under-diagnosis and under-treatment is a challenge.

WHO is committed to improving the diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of asthma to reduce the global burden of NCDs and make progress towards universal health coverage.

Overview
Asthma is a chronic lung disease affecting people of all ages. It is caused by inflammation and muscle tightening around the airways, which makes it harder to breathe.

Symptoms can include coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath and chest tightness. These symptoms can be mild or severe and can come and go over time.

Although asthma can be a serious condition, it can be managed with the right treatment. People with symptoms of asthma should speak to a health professional.

Impact
Asthma is often under-diagnosed and under-treated, particularly in low- and middle-income countries.

People with under-treated asthma can suffer sleep disturbance, tiredness during the day, and poor concentration. Asthma sufferers and their families may miss school and work, with financial impact on the family and wider community. If symptoms are severe, people with asthma may need to receive emergency health care and they may be admitted to hospital for treatment and monitoring. In the most severe cases, asthma can lead to death.

Symptoms
Symptoms of asthma can vary from person to person. Symptoms sometimes get significantly worse. This is known as an asthma attack. Symptoms are often worse at night or during exercise.

Common symptoms of asthma include:

a persistent cough, especially at night
wheezing when exhaling and sometimes when inhaling
shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, sometimes even when resting
chest tightness, making it difficult to breathe deeply.

Some people will have worse symptoms when they have a cold or during changes in the weather. Other triggers can include dust, smoke, fumes, grass and tree pollen, animal fur and feathers, strong soaps and perfume.

Symptoms can be caused by other conditions as well. People with symptoms should talk to a healthcare provider.

Causes
Many factors have been linked to an increased risk of developing asthma, although it is often difficult to find a single, direct cause.

Asthma is more likely if other family members also have asthma – particularly a close relative, such as a parent or sibling.
Asthma is more likely in people who have other allergic conditions, such as eczema and rhinitis (hay fever).

Urbanization is associated with increased asthma prevalence, probably due to multiple lifestyle factors.

Events in early life affect the developing lungs and can increase the risk of asthma. These include low birth weight, prematurity, exposure to tobacco smoke and other sources of air pollution, as well as viral respiratory infections.
Exposure to a range of environmental allergens and irritants are also thought to increase the risk of asthma, including indoor and outdoor air pollution, house dust mites, moulds, and occupational exposure to chemicals, fumes or dust.
Children and adults who are overweight or obese are at a greater risk of asthma.
Treatment
Asthma cannot be cured but there are several treatments available. The most common treatment is to use an inhaler, which delivers medication directly to the lungs.

Inhalers can help control the disease and enable people with asthma to enjoy a normal, active life.

There are two main types of inhaler:

bronchodilators (such as salbutamol), that open the air passages and relieve symptoms; and
steroids (such as beclometasone) that reduce inflammation in the air passages, which improves asthma symptoms and reduces the risk of severe asthma attacks and death.
People with asthma may need to use their inhaler every day. Their treatment will depend on the frequency of symptoms and the types of inhalers available.

Using an inhaler can be difficult, especially for children and during emergency situations. Using a spacer device makes it easier to use an aerosol inhaler. This helps the medicine to reach the lungs more easily. A spacer is a plastic container with a mouthpiece or mask at one end and a hole for the inhaler in the other. A homemade spacer, made from a 500ml plastic bottle, can be as effective as commercially manufactured spacers.

Access to inhalers is a problem in many countries. In 2021, bronchodilators were available in public primary health care facilities in half of low- and low-middle income countries, and steroid inhalers available in one third.

It is also important to raise community awareness to reduce the myths and stigma associated with asthma in some settings.

Self-care
People with asthma and their families need education to understand more about their asthma. This includes their treatment options, triggers to avoid, and how to manage their symptoms at home.

It is important for people with asthma to know how to increase their treatment when their symptoms are worsening to avoid a serious attack. Healthcare providers may give an asthma action plan to help people with asthma to take greater control of their treatment.

Govt Warns Public Over Apostle Chiwenga, Mai Titi Nudes

The Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ) is alarmed by the rise in incidents involving the unauthorised sharing of intimate photos and videos. According to the regulatory agency, people who engage in such actions may be prosecuted under the Data Protection Act, which might result in a five-year prison sentence.
The problem has gained attention as a result of the recent incidents involving Felistas Murata, often known as Mai TT, Apostle Talent Chiwenga,, all social media influencers. Supposedly by her ex-husband, Murata’s naked photos and videos were published on numerous social media sites.

Dr. Gift Machengete, the director general of Potraz, addressed the situation in a statement and emphasised how the dissemination of this content violated the Data Protection Act.

.

“Potraz as the designated Data Protection Authority of Zimbabwe has noted with concern the increasing number of incidents of collection, sharing, distribution and or broadcasting of intimate images and or videos without the consent of the person whose intimate images and or videos would have been shared,” said Dr Machengete.

“The purpose of this notice is to advice members of the public that: 1. Intimate images and videos form part of personal information which is categorised as sensitive data under the Cyber and Data Protection Act [Chapter 12:07]. The Act prohibits the collection, sharing and distribution of sensitive data without the consent of the data subject. 2. The Cyber and Data Protection Act (Chapter 12:07] as read with Section 164E of Criminal Law Codification & Reform Act [Chapter 9:07] prohibits the collection, transfer, sharing and or broadcasting of intimate images and or videos without the consent of the person concerned.”

He said the law seeks to curb the humiliation and embarrassment of persons whose intimate images and or videos would have been shared.

“It also empowers citizens to have control over the processing of their personal information. This is in line with the fundamental rights to human dignity and the right to privacy as enshrined in the Constitution of Zimbabwe in Sections 51 & 57 respectively,” he said.

Dr Machengete said those found sending needs will be liable for prosecution.

“Those who continue to collect, share, distribute and or broadcast intimate images and or videos without the consent of the data subject of the images and or videos shall be liable for imprisonment for a period up to five (5) years or a fine up to level ten and or both such fine and such imprisonment,” said Dr Machengete.

“Members of the public are strongly advised against the collection, sharing or distribution and or broadcasting sensitive personal information, including any intimate images and or videos of any person without the consent of the data subject.”- state media

Clive Barker Dies

Former Bafana Bafana coach Clive Barker has died, his family has confirmed.

Barker passed away at the age of 78 following a battle with Lewy Body Dementia (LBD).

He is the only coach to win the Afcon with South Africa following the team’s triumph at home in 1996.

The ex-gaffer also steered Bafana to a maiden World Cup appearance in France in 1998.

A statement released by his family reads: “It is with profound sadness that the family of former Bafana Bafana coach Clive Barker announce his passing on Saturday, 10 June after a brave battle with Lewy Body Dementia (LBD).

“Clive, 78, led South Africa to their only continental triumph at the Africa Cup of Nations finals in 1996, and also steered the side to a maiden World Cup appearance in France in 1998, and is fondly remembered by fans across the country, as has been evident by the tremendous support he received after falling ill.

“We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the medical professionals who cared for Clive over the past six months. He fought a brave battle, and we are relieved he is now at peace.

“Clive will be remembered by South Africans for his role in helping to bring a nation together around the 1996 Africa Cup of Nations, but for us he was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and he will be dearly missed.

“We have been overwhelmed by the enormous outpouring of love and support for Clive since he was first diagnosed with LBD, and this is a testament to the coach, friend, and mentor he was to not only several generations of footballers, but also anyone who crossed his path in the sport he so dearly loved.

“We will provide details of the memorial service in the coming days and ask the family’s privacy be respected at this very difficult time.”- Soccer24 News

Traditional Leader Nails CCC Candidate

Chief Gutu has ordered a local businessperson to pay three beasts to sitting Gutu Ward 38 Councillor Takawira Chezhira for allegedly spreading rumours that he was caught red-handed with a married woman.

Anderson Singende will pay two beasts to Chezhira and the other beast to Privilege Vanda and was ordered to make a public apology to Chezhira, whom he alleged was caught red-handed.

She is married to Tungamirai Havana of Zvinowanda Village near Gutu Mission. The trial lasted some 45 minutes.

Sindenge is Citizen Coalition for Change (CCC) candidate for Ward 38.

The court refused to entertain Singende’s witnesses, but Chezhira’s witnesses allegedly, Zanu PF Ward 38 committee members, testified.

The court concluded that Singende is trying to gain political mileage over Chezhira by spreading rumours since they are tussling for the same seat.

One of Chezhira’s witnesses, Lilian Manhivi, told the court that she overheard Singende telling some villagers that Chezhira was caught red-handed with Vanda in a bushy area near Havana’s homestead… Masvingo Mirror

Zanu PF Torments Teachers

Is the Patriot Act Good for Free Speech? – Mavaza

ONLY 17 opposition lawmakers cast a no vote. The remainder is history.

By Masimba Mavaza | In an effort to preserve the country’s reputation, Zimbabwe’s parliament has made it illegal to criticise the government negatively. With infractions of the new rule punishable by up to 20 years in prison, this has occurred ahead of the presidential and legislative elections in August. Zimbabwe has started a new chapter in preserving its reputation.

A provision in the Criminal Law Code Amendment Bill, also referred to as the “Patriotic Bill,” makes it illegal to “willfully harm Zimbabwe’s sovereignty and national interest.”

The bill, which was passed late on June 7th, according to opposition activists, was created to safeguard the nation’s reputation. Never is this done to punish people, civil society organisations, or political opponents of the ZANU-PF party in power.

It’s critical to realise that. A country is protected by law, but a patriot cannot be formed by law. True patriotism is the love and devotion one has for his or her country, the desire to preserve the country’s good name, and a deep appreciation for the socioeconomic well-being of the nation. Given that the nation was founded on the blood and sacrifices of its heroes, it is essential that everyone take ownership of their patriotism. Zimbabwe’s Patriotic Bill was passed by parliament in that spirit of patriotism.

The Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Amendment Bill was passed by Zimbabwe’s National House of Assembly, the lower house of the nation’s Parliament, with the intention of punishing nationals who “wilfully damage the sovereignty and national interest” of their country. Falsehoods are forbidden, but not constructive criticism.

The bill makes various changes to the law, including tougher penalties for drug offences, mandatory prison terms for rape, and steps to stop public officials from abusing their positions of authority. However, the public has paid close attention to the revisions pertaining to political activities. These amendments, often known as the “Patriotic Bill,” aim to penalise people for what the bill’s supporters refer to as “unpatriotic acts.”

Those who assert that the law is intended to limit free expression are being devious.
Falsehood is not considered to be free speech. There are 210 elected members of parliament in Zimbabwe. Only 17 people opposed the bill.

Hon. Matewu C., Hon. Raidza, and Hon. Togarepi were the poll workers. The late honourable A Mpofu was the one who presented this law.

After passing the Senate, the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Amendment Bill is now awaiting the President’s signature to become law.

Participating in any meeting where trade boycotts or sanctions on Zimbabwe are discussed or planned is illegal under the bill, whether the measures are targeted or broad. What kind of people are we going to be if we fight for our own suffering? Additionally, the legislation forbids anybody from attending a conference where there is discussion of military intervention or the toppling of Zimbabwe’s constitutional government.

Even if you were unaware of the agenda before the meeting, you could face criminal charges if you support or assist someone who raises these matters. The Bill does not specify punishments for offenders, but it safeguards the nation and its residents against its own citizens.

The government is being charged by the opposition with passing a law to stifle speech prior to elections after going into overdrive. This is a false statement intended to demonise Zimbabwe.

The Zimbabwean Parliament really received a motion on the need for a Patriot Bill in August 2020. The primary goal of the proposed bill was to advance and protect the nation’s interests by making actions that work against Zimbabwe illegal, including—but not limited to—private correspondence with foreign governments or any officer or agent thereof, making false statements to influence foreign governments, and other similar behaviour meant to undermine the nation.

Falsehoods are the core issue that the legislation seeks to protect.
The only ones quivering with dread and running to their masters to hide are the guilty.

CONSEQUENCES OF THE PATRIOTIC BILL
The bill will give the National Prosecuting Authority the power to bring criminal charges against anyone who undermines the nation or makes up information to present a negative impression of Zimbabwe to foreign governments. The adjudication process must be impartial; otherwise, those responsible with interpreting and implementing the terms of the bill may utilise them for political ends. This can’t possibly be an issue. The legal system in Zimbabwe is very independent. Our courts are run by honourable individuals whose integrity cannot be questioned. Therefore, every ambiguity in the law can be safely handled by our courts. Our judges are sworn to uphold the law, and they cannot be bought with money. The politicisation of the legislation would indicate that the opposition wants to demonise the nation without facing any repercussions for their conduct. No kind of protest is silenced by this law.
The law is intended to promote an optimistic narrative that presents the nation in a favourable light.
Lies about Zimbabwe legalising abuse are what are sold to the outside world. The truth is that there is no legal restriction on criticising the ZANU PF. This legislation forbids disparaging your country, not a particular political party. The goal of this law is to safeguard Zimbabwe and its citizens.

Therefore, it is incorrect to claim that the Patriotic Act is a partisan law. The rule of law is what safeguards Zimbabwe as a nation.
Therefore, it is true that the Patriotic Bill exists to defend the nation. We have a responsibility to track down lost nationals and bring them back into the fold. It is essential to establish a patriot through legislation. True patriotism is an innate appreciation for the nation’s positive socioeconomic welfare, and like in every other nation, it is a duty that must be upheld.
Any communications intended to influence foreign governments against your nation should be illegal and subject to legal sanctions. Author: Dr. Masimba Mavaza The West and America also justify their heavy sanctions against Zimbabwe by stating that they seek to defend the country’s human rights. Zimbabwean life is now significant for some inexplicable reason. The reasoning is flawed. We are informed that in order for us to be protected and have access to our human rights, we must routinely endure unimaginable misery as a result of sanctions. In the name of democracy and human rights, we are exhorted to endure suffering. Now, America and the West are accusing the impending Zimbabwean Patriot Act of being a tool of tyranny and the abuse of power, with the unwavering support of the CCC. They just ask that Zimbabwe not utilise its power lest it be accused of abuse. Zimbabwe’s sovereignty is concealed behind a smoke screen, and the true power is what they are attempting to seize.Whoever said, “I love you to death, so let me make a way for you to die defending your life against yourself,” has no right to say that.
Therefore, we must never believe lies that claim that our own government is responsible for our deaths. Sanctions are morally wrong and cannot be justified.

Thus, criticising the Patriot Act is incorrect. A significant portion of the expansive Patriot Act has nothing to do with curtailing freedoms or conducting surveillance. The Patriot Act is not a tool of tyranny, and the government’s existing monitoring and control authorities are derived from some elements of common law. It provides security in some way. There is much misunderstanding over whether the Patriot Act is a weapon or a tool for protection due to the diabolical lies being pushed by CCC and its masters on human rights programmes. There are so many contentious programmes that are still in use in the West. Finally, while the government’s eavesdropping capabilities will be only little affected by the attack on Zimbabwean laws aimed to safeguard their own country, it will have a significant influence on the protection of individuals from the unpatriotic.
Describe the Patriot Act.“Legislation can only serve to remind someone how to be a patriot; it cannot make someone into a patriot. Love for and defence of one’s country must always flow from the heart rather than being a forced or oppressive duty. We must be proud to be Zimbabweans and must give every last drop of blood to protect our nation.Election time is approaching. Zimbabwe must come first for Zimbabweans. Every time there are elections, a large number of unpatriotic individuals will be stepping on each other to defame their own nation. It is our responsibility to defend our own nation against ourselves.Tossing your nation under the bus to win votes is never a good campaign strategy.Love your nation first, and it will love you back.

Olinda Chapel’s Full Police Report Which Leo Says Isn’t Truthful

By Showbiz Reporter | Birmingham | The below is a transcript of the full police report by Oxford based socillite Olinda Chapel over an incident she alleges involved assaults against her on Saturday evening.

My oldest then called me and said mum she is finally here because she was late because if the detours, right?

Legendary Bafana Bafana Coach Dies

Find Out More About Asthma

Company Pushes For Urgent Sale Of WestPro’s Prime Pomona Land To Settle Long Standing Debt

The battle for a piece of prime land in Harare that was parcelled out to businessman Ken Sharpe by the city council has escalated after a construction company approached the High Court seeking an urgent order to sell the property.

Fairclot Investments, which was subcontracted by Sharpe’s Augur Investments to construct the Harare Airport Road, last month won a High Court challenge against its former partner’s move to pay it in local currency for work on the project.

The land now belongs to the Victoria Falls Stock Exchange (VFEX) listed West Property Zimbabwe (WestProp).

Justice Nyaradzo Munanganti-Munongwa ruled that WestProp the land in Pomona worth US$105 million must be attached and sold to resolve the debt dispute with Fairclot Investments.

In his founding affidavit in the urgent application, Grant Russel, one of Fairclot’s directors,  said further delays in paying the money by WestProp would cause irreparable harm to the company given that Sharpe’s firm has divested itself of its executable assets.

Fairclot said WestProp has continued to sell stands on the property, which made the application urgent.

The newly VFEX listed frim is now touting Augur’s sole asset as belonging to it, Russel argued.

He said WestProp would not suffer prejudice because its prospects of success on the matter were remote and that in its appeal, it has never indicated that it was unable to pay.

He said the company’s Supreme Court appeal against Munanganti-Munongwa’s judgement was vexatious and frivolous.

Russel said the appeal was not made with a bona fide intention to reverse the judgement but for indirect purposes such as to harass Fairclot or to inform shareholders, present and future, involved in WestProp’s VFEX listing that the appeal had an effect of suspending the High Court judgment.

“When the arbitral award was granted in 2015, the first respondent (Augur) once again went out on a series of pointless and ultimately unsuccessful litigation to challenge the debt and it took four years to get that dismissed in the Supreme Court, and then there were three other unsuccessful attempts to challenge the debt in the High Court, including an interpleader suggesting that the property attached was not executable; all pointing to the fact that this is a debt whose payment is due and no amount of litigation will change that; and the balance of hardship is such that the application ought to be granted in order to bring finality to this long-running matter and long-awaited payment to the applicant,” Russel said in the founding affidavit dated  June 8.

He said Augur’s appeal will not succeed because it attacks the court for purportedly failing to uphold the arbitral award of 2015 as a judgment and does not, therefore, qualify under the statutory Instrument 33 of 2019.

It was only registered by the High Court after the SI.

Russel said the cross-appeal by the sheriff of the High Court showed that he was sponsored by Augur and was not implementing orders based on the law.

“Once the court found that the judgment debt was in US dollars and that execution ought to have been made in that currency and not in RTGS at the wrong rate of 1:1 as opposed to the prevailing exchange rate, it followed that the RTGS payment did not fully discharge the debt,” he argued.

“Such a finding cannot be a “gross misdirection” since it flows logically from the finding that Statutory Instrument 33 of 2019 did not apply in this case.”

Russel added: “I further point out that the appeal does not put the judgment of the court at risk of being set aside.

“Its lack of prospects of success is such that there is nothing for which to wait before the judgment is carried into execution.

“I also indicate that the applicant has no alternative remedy by which to achieve the fruits of the judgment.”

Munangati-Munongwa’s ruling followed a challenge by Fairclot against Augur’s move to pay for the US$4.8 million debt for the construction of the Airport Road in local currency using a 1:1 rate to the US dollar after the introduction of Statutory Instrument 33 of 2019.

Augur has appealed to the Supreme Court against the High Court order.

Joburg Hit By Earthquake

By- A 5.0 magnitude earthquake has his South Africa’s Johannesburg Sunday, throwing tremors across the country’s most populous province.

The United States Geological Survey reported that the tremor occurred at 2:38 am (0038 GMT) or 6:08 AM (IST) and was located around 10 kilometres (six miles) below the surface.

The quake caused buildings to shake in the Gauteng province, where Johannesburg is located. Many residents of Gauteng province reported on social media that the walls of their homes were shaking when the earthquake occurred. Local media outlets also published videos of the quake.

Earthquakes are a rare occurrence in South Africa, with the last measuring 5.0 magnitude or higher in 2014, as reported by the U.S. Geological Survey. The epicentre of that 5.4 magnitude quake was near Orkney, a gold mining town in the North West province, where one person was reported to have died. The last major earthquake in South Africa was a 6.3-magnitude tremor in the Western Cape province in 1969.

According to an Associated Press journalist living close to the epicentre, the recent earthquake in South Africa felt like being on a moving train and lasted about a minute.

SA Truck Drivers Threat Violence Against Zim Drivers

By- Some South African drivers have threatened violence against Zimbabwean drivers who hold the Zimbabwean Exemption Permit (ZEP).

The threats come after Minister of Home Affairs, Aaron Motsoaledi, extended ZEPs by a further six months, to 31 December.

While Zimbabwean nationals in South Africa have expressed relief at the news of the extension, the RFA is worried that it may lead to violence and disruptions in the road freight sector.

According to the RFA, the extension of the ZEP might provoke local truck drivers to take matters into their own hands, ewn.co.za reported.

The Home Affairs Department has been receiving around 1,500 visa and waiver applications per day, which led to the extension of the ZEP’s validity. However, the RFA believes that the department should have had a plan for the anticipated surge of applications closer to the deadline.

The RFA supports the extension of the ZEP, but believes that the Home Affairs Department should work with a task team led by the transport department to address the challenge created by the surge of applications.

While it is not clear what the RFA means by “the extension of the ZEP might provoke local truck drivers to take matters into their own hands,” Zimbabwean truck drivers previously suffered violence, harassment, and intimidation at the hands of local drivers who accused them of taking their jobs.

According to research by the Road Freight Association, over 200 people, mostly foreign truck drivers, have been killed in South Africa since March 2018.

Zanu PF In Chamisa Election Defeat Panic

By- Several senior Zanu PF officials have said their party risks losing the August 2023 polls to the opposition if the economic conditions are not fixed.

During the party’s week-long induction workshop that ended recently in Gweru, party officials, particularly parliamentary candidates, criticized Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube for failing to address the nation’s crises. NewsDay was told:

Ncube was grilled over the failing economy and inflation.

Ncube was told that the economy was Zanu PF’s number one enemy going into the elections.

The MPs were expressing fears that the run-away inflation might cost our party seats in the upcoming elections.

This was a real concern and Ncube promised to deal with the economy.

The senior party officials, including 210 aspiring MPs, youth, and women quota members, attended the five-day election induction workshop.

The Finance Minister presented on the state of the economy, assuring the party officials that the economy would stabilize ahead of the August 23 elections. However, the MPs expressed fears that the country’s runaway inflation might cost the party seats in the upcoming elections.

The officials demanded that the government urgently address the economic crisis to prevent further damage to the country’s economy.

ZANU-PF’s National Political Commissar, Mike Bimha, stated that he cannot disclose any information regarding the party’s internal discussions at the meeting. He said:

Just imagine disclosing your strategies before a football match, this is not proper.

Prices of essential goods are rising on a daily basis as the local currency continues to depreciate against the US dollar. The government has not reintroduced the US dollar as the official currency despite growing pressure to do so.

Zimbabwe is going to the polls on the 23rd of August to elect councillors, senators, members of the House of Assembly and the president. While ZANU-PF has accelerated its preparations for the upcoming elections, the Citizens Coalitions for Change is yet to complete its candidate selection process. The ruling party has provided campaign regalia for all its aspiring candidates and purchased 210 all-terrain vehicles for its parliamentary candidates and affiliates.

The Wheels Are Off

By A Correspondent| The Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) of the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) has been threatening businesses with harsh penalties for not complying with its regulations.

However, economic analyst Professor Gift Mugano has warned that the FIU has no capacity to police more than 6 million people and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the informal sector.

“It is understandable that the FIU must say something,” Mugano said in a tweet.

“But these statements will not help the situation. The wheels are off!”

Mugano’s comments come at a time when the Zimbabwean economy is in a state of crisis.

Inflation is at an all-time high, and the value of the Zimbabwean dollar has plummeted.

This has made it difficult for businesses to operate.

The FIU’s threats have only added to the uncertainty and anxiety in the business community.

Many businesses are now reluctant to make any investments or hire new employees, for fear of being penalized by the FIU.

The FIU’s threats have had a chilling effect on the Zimbabwean economy.

Zimbabwe On The Brink

According to American economist and applied economics professor, Steve Hanke, Zimbabwe is on the brink of another hyperinflation episode.

Hanke recently estimated Zimbabwe’s monthly inflation rate to be at 102% as of June 7, 2023.He warned that if the current rate of inflation persists, Zimbabwe could reach hyperinflation in just five days.

Zimbabwe has experienced hyperinflation in the past, namely in 2008.

The current economic situation in Zimbabwe is dire, with some retailers selling a loaf of bread for ZWL 12000.

Professor Hanke’s warning underscores the urgent need for Zimbabwe to take immediate action to stabilize its economy and address the underlying issues causing the inflation.

Failure to do so could result in severe consequences for the people of Zimbabwe, as hyperinflation has devastating effects on the economy and the population as a whole.

In 2008, Zimbabwe experienced one of the worst cases of hyperinflation ever, with estimated annual inflation at one point of 500 billion percent, according to the International Monetary Fund.

While the price hikes are mainly for commodities priced in the Zimbabwe dollar, some businesses are also raising prices in United States dollars.

In 2008, businesses removed commodities from shelves to prevent making losses as the Zimbabwe dollar rapidly shed value against other currencies.

The government has issued a cocktail of measures to stabilise the macroeconomy and the depreciating local currency.

There is no evidence to suggest that the measures are effective so far.

RBZ threatens To Shut Down Businesses, Prosecute Directors Over Price Hikes

The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe on Friday threatened “punitive measures” against businesses accused of “illegal forward pricing practices thereby manipulating the foreign exchange rate.”

“In terms of the law, businesses are permitted to apply a margin of up to 10 percent above the interbank exchange rate,” the central bank’s Financial Intelligence Unit said in a statement.

“There is no justification for non-compliance with the legal margins in light of the recent implementation of a market determined interbank exchange rate system.”

The Zimbabwe dollar crashed this week when it lost value by nearly 50 percent, sending prices of goods through the ceiling.

The Consumer Council of Zimbabwe said this week that a family of six now requires Z$1 million a month to survive, up from Z$611,275 in April – but salaries remain stagnant.

Government workers have threatened strikes if their salaries are not urgently reviewed, presenting a threat of a winter of discontent for President Emmerson Mnangagwa who is seeking re-election in general elections on August 23.

The central bank is blaming businesses for fuelling the currency instability, and is threatening drastic actions including freezing accounts and prosecuting company directors.

“The forward pricing and non-compliance with legal limits is being done at the detriment of the consumers who bear the brunt of the resultant unjustified pricing of goods and services,” the bank said.

“With immediate effect, the FIU will be escalating and widening remedial and punitive measures against delinquent businesses by not only imposing administrative fines but also directing that the culprits’ bank accounts be frozen indefinitely and referring the culprits to relevant authorities for the suspension and revocation of trading or operating licences and prosecution. Liability will also be extended to directors and owners of the concerned businesses.”

However, economic analyst Professor Gift Mugano has dismissed the threats saying FIU has no capacity to monitor every business in the country.

“Is the FIU aware that it has no capacity to police more than 6 million people and SMES in the informal sector? It is understandable that they must say something but this will not address the chaos we are in. These statements will not help the situation. Wheels are off,” said Mugano.

Qoki Fraud: Major Lawsuit is Looming On Nondwene

Qoki Zindlovukazi Agricultural fraudulent Farm land sales; Matebeleland Diasporans and Locals Affected.

By Nancy Nhuku| Bulawayo, Zimbabwe’s second-largest city has always taken pride in their strict standards in a bid to address longstanding issues surrounding illegal land occupations and fraudulent conveyancing processes. It has come as a concern and surprise to some Bulawayo Qoki Women dreaming of owning their homes and plots, that they have been sold indivisible state land or disputed land unbeknown to them.

The recent demolitions and enforcement actions above, that have sent shockwaves to Qoki Zindlovukazi investors, are part of the country’s broader land reform agenda, aimed at rectifying, illegal occupations, historical injustices and ensuring equitable access to land for all citizens. However, these operations have also affected a number of unsuspecting Zimbabwean locals and diasporans like Qoki investors who had invested in properties back home.

In recent news, Qoki Zindlovukazi founder and Directors Sithule Tshuma, Ms Karen Kumalo, Ms Nompilo Moyo and Ms Bridget Dube have been on the spotlight for some fraudulent conveyancing processes on some farms located under Umguza rural District council in Bulawayo near the Joshua Mqabuko Airport. The land baron phenomenon has plagued Zimbabwe for years, with individuals or groups such as Qoki Zindlovukazi illegally parcelling out state or disputed land to unsuspecting individuals in exchange for exorbitant fees. In this case Qoki appears to have targeted and exploited vulnerable women, located mostly abroad, promising them residential plots or agricultural plots without legal documentation or proper infrastructure.
Some affected investors in the region of hundreds, have reported concerns regards Qoki Zindlovukazi and their Lawyer Mr Zibusiso Charles Ncube withdrawing and withholding information from October 2020 regarding The Remaining Extent of Lower Nondwene being a contested land with significant outstanding ownership court hearings and Title Deed processes.

A mega lawsuit is looming over Qoki as alleged ‘seller’, Mr Hazrine Hapazari’s name is not on thee Remaining Extent of Lower Nondwene Title Deed (1791/90) and Qoki Title Deed(220/2021). Qoki appears to have taken the ‘fake’ Title Deed (as referd to by Qoki investors), directly from Mr and Mrs Manfred Barnett. Contrary to this, the Qoki Title Deed is missing at the Title Deed office to date, sometime in 2022, the Deed Office had confirmed to the investors Lawyer that the Deed was unavailable due to incomplete conveyancing issues. The Title Deed in question also covers the 50 hectares Qoki Hotel and Golf Course as Mr Hapazari is the same ‘seller’.
When Mr Ncube was approached by investors about the shocking news on 4th of May 2022, he responded ‘..the letter from the (Bulawayo) deeds office is accurate, the (Qoki) deed was registered subject to Mr Majoko finalising the issue between Hapazari and Barnett. Mr Majoko is dealing with that’. To date Mr Hapazari’s matter is still in court (high court case numberHC2035/20).

This case example is a growing concern among Qoki investors, as it is becoming apparent that there are numerous issues with most of the Qoki purchased land that Ms Tshuma and her team allege due diligence was thoroughly conducted by their Lawyer Mr Ncube. In addition, investors continue to discover deception concerns that were never disclosed to investors.
Amid all the concerns stated above, below are some of the issues observed and experienced by investors about Qoki’s model;
1. Operating under Women Empowerment disguise, (an organisation reportedly co-founded with a man Jimmy Chasafara- Ndaba Nhuku)
2. Authoritarian divide and rule, investors expelled from Qoki Zindlovukazi trading and communication platforms for asking questions.
3. Qoki Zindlovukazi trading and communication platforms restricted to only Qoki Admins posting, commenting and making significant decisions.
4. Bullying and harassment tendencies.
5. Intimidating and threatening behaviour, ganging up on investors safeguarding their money. Ms Tshuma using Mr Ncube to intimidate and bully women investors.
6. Ms Tshuma and Mr Ncube strongly inciting investors to sue each other by use of another Ncube colleague for boycotting paying for civil works and ancillary. (Douglasdale 1 investors received letters from lawyer Mr Mashobana Ncube titled SHERON BEJILE AND 27 ORS v YOURSELF: NONE PAYMENT OF FEES FOR SERVICES. Investors were left distraught following receiving these letters which attracted a charge of $250 each person, another clear money making stream of income by Qoki Directors. What cane as surprise to the Investors was that there is no legally binding contract between the two parties, neither is there with Qoki Zindlovukazi.
While Nondwene 3 received some refunds on 5th June 2023, Nondwene 1 and 2 await a date to collect their refunds from Qoki Zindlovukazi Clinic. With over US$25million having been handled by Ms Tshuma from money collected mostly from the United Kingdom, both countries would have seen some tax returns and revenue (ZIMRA) payments.

As the crackdown on land barons continues in Bulawayo and across Zimbabwe, the authorities face the challenge of striking a balance between upholding the principles of land reform and addressing the grievances of Nondwene investors impacted by Qoki’s lack of upholding legal practices. The situation underscores the importance of proper land administration, legal frameworks, and public awareness to prevent the proliferation of land barons and protect the rights of both local residents and Zimbabweans living abroad.

“This piece is inspired by my dream to one day be one of the best interior architects in Africa. In the dream-like scene picture, I used colours that relate closely to my country (red, yellow, green). Green is the dominant colour because of Zimbabwe’s agricultural strength,” says Hope.

“I put people that come from different classes in Zimbabwe because I hope that one day, I will be able to bring futuristic and modern instalments to Southern African museums galleries and complexes, where all people rich and poor can see these wonderful lights and experience cutting edge interiors.

“My dream is that I am able to put more second and third-world African countries into the limelight of modern architecture by making spectacular sceneries like the one I have just painted.”

The youths from Africa, with their colourful paintings, expressed their best wishes for China-Africa cooperation, peace and development, human progress and a better life.

The Chinese embassy in Zimbabwe said China stands ready to offer a platform for African youth to show the world their youthful vitality and their African dream and renew the China-Africa friendship, “In the meantime, we stand ready to share our experience and outcomes in the development of high-tech, enhance technology transfer in the agricultural and industrial fields and give a boost to Africa’s modernisation drive.”

Meanwhile, Hope’s winning painting will be among several others to be part of an international exhibition to take place on the recently launched Shenzhou-16 manned spaceflight mission on the China Space Station, mission commander Jing Haipeng announced.

Jing said that they will stage the first and display paintings received from African teenagers from 10 African countries, including Algeria, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Egypt, Madagascar, Mali, Mauritius, Nigeria, Somalia, South Africa and Zimbabwe. – ZBC News

Charamba Struggles To Ignore Kasukuwere

By Farai D Hove | The political landscape of Zimbabwe has long been dominated by two major figures: Emmerson Mnangagwa and Saviour Kasukuwere. While Mnangagwa currently holds the presidency, Kasukuwere, a prominent opposition figure, has emerged as a formidable force that cannot be ignored. In this article, we will analyze the reasons why Kasukuwere poses a significant challenge to Mnangagwa’s leadership and why he cannot be disregarded in Zimbabwean politics.

Resilience and Experience:

Saviour Kasukuwere has shown tremendous resilience in the face of adversity throughout his political career. He has weathered political storms and emerged as a key opposition figure, earning the nickname “Tyson” for his ability to bounce back. His experience in various government positions, including Minister of Local Government and Minister of Youth Development, has provided him with deep insights into the inner workings of Zimbabwe’s political system.

Popularity and Grassroots Support:

Kasukuwere enjoys considerable popularity and grassroots support, especially among the youth in Zimbabwe. His charismatic personality and ability to connect with ordinary citizens have won him a loyal following. Kasukuwere’s emphasis on economic empowerment and social justice resonates with a large segment of the population that has been affected by the country’s economic challenges. This support base gives him a strong foundation from which to challenge Mnangagwa’s rule.

Stance Against Corruption:

Corruption has long plagued Zimbabwe’s political landscape, contributing to its economic woes. Kasukuwere has positioned himself as a staunch anti-corruption advocate, calling for transparency and accountability in government. His commitment to fighting corruption has struck a chord with the Zimbabwean population, who view it as a necessary step towards rebuilding the country’s economy and restoring public trust. This stance sets Kasukuwere apart from Mnangagwa, whose administration has faced criticism for not doing enough to combat corruption.

Mobilization and Organizational Skills:

Kasukuwere has demonstrated exceptional mobilization and organizational skills, which have been crucial in building a strong opposition movement. Through his political party, the Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front (ZANU-PF), he has established a robust network of supporters across the country. This infrastructure enables him to rally people and coordinate political campaigns effectively. Kasukuwere’s ability to mobilize the masses poses a significant threat to Mnangagwa’s leadership, as it undermines the ruling party’s control over the electorate.

International Recognition:

Kasukuwere has gained international recognition as a prominent opposition figure. His efforts to challenge Mnangagwa’s government and advocate for democratic reforms have caught the attention of the international community. This recognition strengthens Kasukuwere’s position, as it puts pressure on Mnangagwa’s administration to address the concerns raised by the opposition leader. The support from international actors and organizations further amplifies Kasukuwere’s voice and increases his credibility on the global stage.

Saviour Kasukuwere’s resilience, popularity, anti-corruption stance, mobilization skills, and international recognition make him a formidable challenger to Emmerson Mnangagwa’s leadership in Zimbabwe. His ability to connect with the people and mobilize grassroots support has the potential to disrupt the political landscape. As Kasukuwere continues to build momentum, it is evident that he cannot be ignored, and his presence in challenging Mnangagwa will shape the future of Zimbabwean politics.

Below is George Charamba’s article on Saturday
Kasukuwere, we are told, has now thrown his hat in the ring. He might very well have, including throwing in his coxcombical image in which he feigns some mock-presidential poise.

This has caused some considerable stir in the social media, but only!

We are still to meet a similar stir in the work-a-day world where politics and politicians are made and unmade.

Interestingly, debate on social media is not on or about his chances. Rather, it is on and about whose vote he is likely to split!

Which seals and immortalises his political fate as the nearly man of Zimbabwe’s political contest. Again interestingly, some supporters in the ruling party and the opposition alike are angry with him, ironically for the same fears his ordained role seem to trigger!

He will eat into ED’s vote, a few impressionable ones in the ruling party opine; he will divide opposition vote thus undermining Chamisa, many in the opposition think and fear.

Between both camps is no Chinese wall! For both roles he needs no schizophrenia. Not even a gossamer veil!

Bragging about negativity capability

What is my view about him? Well, as a candidate his significance and value hardly surpasses a farthing which cannot procure even an unregistered voter or a spoilt ballot paper.

No serious politician should waste time on him, any more than he does on himself. His forlorn hope is to gain significance by causing the authorities to wave a charge sheet in his face.

Through such a subterfuge he hopes to claim “negative capability”, to adapt the phrase of the Nineteenth Century Romantic poet, John Keats. It then allows him to join US’s Oliver North of the CIA Contra Scandal in bragging about himself “as the President Zimbabwe would not have”!

Hoping for a Mutambara moment

His only other alternative significance is to hope for a Mutambara moment in the opposition: the hope of a small outsider whose chances are magnified by stiff rifts inside.

I mean it needs no divination to predict that after August 23, Chamisa’s “thing” will be a fractious mess sure to devour its erstwhile leader, with none of the multitudinous contenders to the throne ever prevailing.

In that Mutambara role, Kasukuwere might meet King Arthur and his green knights!

The model might just turn out to be the real opponent!

Chamisa’s Double

Perhaps what is worth more than a farthing is reading Saviour’s aspirations.

Fortunately his aspirations provide fascinating hagiography, which is to say a text in human form.

The first two paragraphs have Walter Mzembi and Sybeth Musengezi as incarnates. This semantic side of Kasukuwere makes him Chamisa’s double.

Through both characters, Saviour, like King Arthur, has thrown his weight behind Chamisa. Both characters are his alter ego. His offering himself as a separate Presidential candidate does not distract this role; rather, is calculated to soften Zanu PF for Chamisa by diving its vote.

He hopes to be repaid for it, thus becoming yet another variegated patch on Chamisa’s multicoloured Scottish-skirt party.

Playing red herring for Chamisa

The other hagiography would have come in the form and persons of Dr Simba Makoni and Dr Joice Mujuru had it not been for ED’s Big-Zanu PF, conciliatory tent politics. With both now inside and behind President ED’s candidature, the remnant, tattered facsimile of that model is the bitter Ibbotson Joseph, a.k.a. Ibbo Mandaza.

That role makes Saviour play the distracting role of a red herring to Zanu PF’s campaign focus, assuming Zanu PF has forgotten bitter lessons of 2008.

Such a role does not need prior understanding between Kasukuwere and Chamisa. It just needs to happen, with gains accruing to Chamisa as coming fortuitously and inadvertently.

Whether it is the Mutambara or Mavambo model, one outcome is dead certain: Hamlet, the main actor embraces the fate of all tragic heroes in a Shakespearean drama. In the end he dies, much like corporeal Makoni and Mutambara soon after and at the conclusion of GNU respectively.

The only issue is in whose hands does he finally meet his death! Whether death of a Double or a Red Herring, let the world of humans decide.

The issue is that both deaths have been suffered before, making Kasukuwere him a political cliché in human form, quintessentially bereft of any originality, subjectivity or expressive force. I am only a braying donkey!

Chadzamira Says Mnangagwa To Rule Forever

ZEC Secretly Shifts Wards To Help Hopewell Chin’ono’s Falsehoods That Chamisa’s Failed To Field Candidates

ZEC has secretly altered boundaries by moving Ward 7 from Chimanimani West to East

By A Correspondent | In an apparent attempt to decorate falsehoods flung by populistic film maker Hopewell Chin’ono that suggest Nelson Chamisa is failing to field Candidates in Chimanimani, the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission has shifted wards for the area.

Last month Hopewell Chin’ono (who confesses to assisting Vice President Constantino Chiwenga blame doctors treating wounded activists over the state’s electoral violence), celebrated a Newsday article that quotes his own falsehoods about the Nelson Chamisa led CCC party in Chimanimani.

Chinono who, faced with serious allegations of money laundering since 1997, has failed to disclose the financier for his first £50,000 worth sportscar he says he purchased in 1996 at 25, re posted his own falsehoods that claim that Chimanimani has 22 wards when they are actually 25.

He placated the Newsday article that has no new detail other than his own personal suggestions accusing Chamisa’s party of incompetence.

He announced saying: “Today’s @NewsDayZimbabwe reports that; “CCC struggles for rural candidates.”

“When I reported this story last week, I was called a liar, someone even said I had a dirty agenda.

“It is fascist to stop journalists from reporting news because you don’t like the content of the news.”

Chimanimani residents last week told ZimEye, they are not amused by the man who makes people call him DaddyHope, and local citizen journo, VOA contributor and party supporter, Mr Pardon Maguta said, “I have seen one of the posts from DeadHope… that the CCC is struggling to get candidates to the 2 constituencies and 22 wards… Chimanimani according to the new delimitation doesn’t have 22 wards… actually there have been an addition of 2 more wards for Chimanimani, both East and west, making Chimanimani have 25 wards, because previously we had 23 wards, which makes DeadHope’s claims false and totally wrong; he doesn’t have the correct information about Chimanimani… VIDEO:

“To move further, CCC didn’t struggle to get candidates;actually we had a lot of candidates for both constituencies, and in actual fact, all the wards have been fielded there, we have candidates for the general elections, so we don’t know where DeadHope is getting this information, actually he is misleading the people; if he has hatred for the CCC, or the president of the CCC, he doesn’t have the create fiction to please some people.

“These are all lies that DeadHope uttered that CCC in Chimanimani is failing to find candidates or people to represent it- the people are there, CCC is waiting for the elections… in his journalism he needs to gather facts, not try to discourage people or give the wrong picture that suggests CCC has already lost the election to Zanu PF… We are waiting for the election, and we hope to do better,” said Maguta.

Meanwhile, Chin’ono who last year threatened the Al Jazeera documentary researcher, Simba Chikanza in favour of and protecting Emmerson Mnangagwa’s wife, Auxillia, saying a publishing deadline he (Chikanza) had announced was blackmail against the First Lady on 15 May 2022, was at the time of writing still to respond to criticism over his recent statements at the SAPES Trust in which he claims he is mediating between Auxillia Mnangagwa and Nelson Chamisa for a government of national unity, something the CCC leader publicly rubbishes.

Award winning human rights defender, Mako Haruzivishe, and 2 other activists allege Chin’ono in January 2019 leaked to the military secret locations of tortured activists leading to them being found and assaulted when the government killed 17 people and agents raped over 50 women.

ZEC has secretly altered boundaries by moving Ward 7 from Chimanimani West to East, reports the fact checking group, Pachedu. ZEC must explain why they are still gerrymandering constituencies, Pachedu continues.

Inter Milan Chase 4th UEFA Champions League Title

Manchester City and Inter Millan will face off in the UEFA Champions League 2022-23 final at the Ataturk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul, Turkey, on Sunday.

The Manchester City vs Inter Milan UCL final is scheduled to start at 12:30 AM in India. The football match will be live streamed and broadcasted live on TV.

For Manchester City, this will be their second UEFA Champions League final in three years after falling short in the 2020-21 title clash against Chelsea.

Manchester City, who have already won the English Premier League and FA Cup this season, are looking to complete the treble. If they win Sunday’s UCL final to secure their first European title, the Cityzens will emulate their arch-rivals Manchester United’s feat from 1998-99.

Manchester United, under Sir Alex Ferguson, won the EPL, FA Cup and Champions League in the 1998-99 season. Till date, it is the only instance of any team in English football winning the treble.

A win in the UCL final will also make Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola only the second manager to win three or more UCL trophies after Carlo Ancelotti (four). The Spanish manager won two UEFA Champions League finals with Barcelona (2008–09 and 2010–11).

En route to the final, Manchester City beat European heavyweights Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals before knocking out last season’s UCL champions Real Madrid in the last four to set up the final with Inter Milan.

Meanwhile, Inter Milan, who have won the UEFA Champions League trophy thrice (1963-64, 1965, 2009-10) are chasing their fourth title, having last won the European crown under Jose Mourinho in 2009-10.

The Simone Inzaghi-coached Inter had a much easier route to the final compared to their English opponents. Inter Milan beat Porto in their round of 16 clash before eliminating Benfica and city rivals AC Milan in the quarter-finals and semi-finals, respectively.

Inter Milan head to Istanbul on the back of their Italian Supercup and Italian Cup triumphs under Simone Inzaghi.

Sunday’s final will also mark the first-ever head-to-head Manchester City vs Inter Milan head-to-head clash in Europe.- Olympics.com
