Prison Officers Expose Chikurubi Rot

By- Prison officers at the country’s maximum-security Prison, Chikurubi, have said that the correctional service centre’s infrastructure was falling apart due to lack of maintenance.

They said the prison was poorly resourced and could not adequately accommodate female inmates with minor children.

This week, Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services correctional officer Christmas Tarwira pleaded with members of the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Justice to pressure government to rehabilitate the outdated infrastructure at the female section.

“The infrastructure that you see is very old, this is one of the oldest prisons in Zimbabwe, and the infrastructure is not able to accommodate children. Due to lack of resources and poor infrastructure, there is not (much) we can do,” Tarwira said.
“The place we use as a psychiatric centre is very old; it does not have facilities suitable for psychiatric patients. The infrastructure is so old and not suitable for what we are doing. We also need something with modern specifications that would cater for everyone. If we had resources we would separate inmates — those that are convicted and those not convicted would stay in separate cells,” he added.
Acting officer-in-charge Stella Katiyowo said: “We also have a challenge with our kitchen as we are using a makeshift kitchen. The electric stoves are no longer working, and so we moved away and we are now using firewood which is a challenge especially when it’s raining. This forces us to have lunch and supper at once.
“The sewer system is also dilapidated and sometimes prisoners use the manual method to scoop out sewage water, but it is not safe.”
On projects for the inmates, Katiyowo said female prisoners underwent cutting and design training, but the courses were being threatened by lack of funds.
“Our security fence is old which makes it easy for prisoners to escape,” Katiyowo added.
ZPCS officer commanding Harare Metropolitan Gilbert Marange said: “We are getting very little funding. We received $30 million to cater for all prisons in Harare metropolitan province, and if we are to purchase fence for this prison, it may not be enough.” Newsday

How Does Climate Change Affect Mental Health?

Climate change poses serious risks to mental health and well-being, concludes a new WHO policy brief, launched today at the Stockholm+50 conference.

The Organization is therefore urging countries to include mental health support in their response to the climate crisis, citing examples where a few pioneering countries have done this effectively.

The findings concur with a recent report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), published in February this year. The IPPC revealed that rapidly increasing climate change poses a rising threat to mental health and psychosocial well-being; from emotional distress to anxiety, depression, grief, and suicidal behavior.

“The impacts of climate change are increasingly part of our daily lives, and there is very little dedicated mental health support available for people and communities dealing with climate-related hazards and long-term risk,” said Dr Maria Neira, Director of the Department of Environment, Climate Change and Health at WHO.

The mental health impacts of climate change are unequally distributed with certain groups disproportionately affected depending on factors such as socioeconomic status, gender and age. However, it is clear that climate change affects many of the social determinants that are already leading to massive mental health burdens globally. A 2021 WHO survey of 95 countries found that only 9 have thus far included mental health and psychosocial support in their national health and climate change plans.

“The impact of climate change is compounding the already extremely challenging situation for mental health and mental health services globally. There are nearly 1 billion people living with mental health conditions, yet in low- and middle-income countries, 3 out of 4 do not have access to needed services” said Dévora Kestel, Director of the Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse at WHO. “By ramping up mental health and psychosocial support within disaster risk reduction and climate action, countries can do more to help protect those most at risk.”

The new WHO policy brief recommends five important approaches for governments to address the mental health impacts of climate change:

integrate climate considerations with mental health programmes;
integrate mental health support with climate action;
build upon global commitments;
develop community-based approaches to reduce vulnerabilities; and
close the large funding gap that exists for mental health and psychosocial support.
“WHO’s Member States have made it very clear mental health is a priority for them. We are working closely with countries to protect people’s physical and mental health from climate threats,” said Dr Diarmid Campbell-Lendrum, WHO climate lead, and an IPCC lead author.

Some good examples exist of how this can be done such as in the Philippines, which has rebuilt and improved its mental health services after the impact of Typhoon Haiyan in 2013 or in India, where a national project has scaled up disaster risk reduction in the country while also preparing cities to respond to climate risks and address mental health and psychosocial needs.

The Stockholm Conference commemorates the 50th anniversary of the UN Conference on the Human Environment and recognizes the importance of environmental determinants for both physical and mental health.

Note to editors

WHO defines mental health as “a state of well-being in which every individual realizes his or her own potential, can cope with the stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully and is able to make a contribution to her or his community”.

WHO defines mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) as “any type of local or outside support that aims to protect or promote psychosocial well-being and/or prevent or treat mental disorder”.

2023 Polls: Mnangagwa Can’t Beat President Chamisa

Tinashe Sambiri| Zanu PF man Sybeth Musengezi has declared that Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa will lose the 2023 Presidential election because he lacks direction and vision.

Musengezi took a swipe at Mr Mnangagwa for failing to arrest corruption.

“Our current leaders have failed to run the country, they have failed the economy. Corruption is rife and generally people are suffering. On top of that, there is a lot of disgruntlement and factionalism in ZANU PF, so bhora musango is inevitable.

If Chamisa plays his cards well, I foresee him winning the hearts of many in 2023, even among those currently in ZANU PF may vote for him,” declared Musengezi.

Mr Mnangagwa, quoted by a daily paper, conceded Zanu PF has been torn apart by factionalism.

Speaking to Glenview 7 residents last week, he said:

“Here in Harare, there is a lot of factionalism. Masimirembwa is struggling to contain factionalism in the province, and we don’t want that in the party. ZANU PF does not belong to individuals.”

Tinashe Sambiri|CCC leader President Nelson Chamisa has described the death of Dr Alex Magaisa as a sad episode.

President Chamisa is seen in a picture with Dr Magaisa during the two’s last meeting in Harare.

Dr Magaisa was an inspiration to the entire nation through his powerful articles .

“Dr ALEX TAWANDA MAGAISA my brother…That last physical meeting in my office. The last time you visited Zimbabwe ‘Wangu’ as you would say.

I miss those regular ‘catch up’ calls already. Life is just a puzzle,” President Chamisa wrote on Twitter.

Factionalism Haunts Zanu PF

By A Correspondent- Factionalism has reportedly intensified in the ruling ZANU PF as factions aligned to President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his deputy Constantino Chiwenga are said to be battling to control the party ahead of next year’s general elections.

The ruling party will hold its congress towards the end of the year to elect its leaders.

Mnangagwa recently admitted that there is factionalism adding that ZANU PF Harare provincial chairperson Goodwills Masimirembwa was failing to manage the situation.

Masimirembwa told NewsDay on Monday that factionalism will be a thing of the past. He said:

Indeed, there is factionalism in Harare province. President Mnangagwa implored us to deal with it and it will be a thing of the past soon.

In Masvingo, president of the Chiefs Council Fortune Charumbira acknowledged that the province was riddled with factionalism which was threatening to tear apart the ruling party. H

He spoke during the burial of provincial hero Sylvester Maunganidze in Masvingo at the weekend:

Masvingo province, let me warn you, please unite, unite, the province fought hard for us to get into the new dispensation. It was the leading province until former First Lady Grace Mugabe said Masvingo you are causing trouble by supporting Mnangagwa. We no longer want you in ZANU PF.

In Mashonaland East, the Zanu PF provincial leadership also suspended Chikomba district co-ordinating committee (DCC) chairperson Alfred Pedzisa as factionalism within the ruling party intensified.

Pedzisa was suspended at a rally held at Sadza growth point on Sunday after being accused of “gross misconduct” among other charges, which he denies.

Transport minister Felix Mhona, who is also Chikomba Central MP, was appointed acting Chikomba DCC chairperson.

Pedzisa yesterday confirmed the suspension but denied the allegations.

A few months ago, the provincial leadership suspended provincial member Cleopas Kundiona, accusing him of indiscipline before overturning the decision two weeks later.

In Matabeleland North, a faction linked to ZANU PF secretary Obert Mpofu is said to be losing grip on the ruling party’s structures during the ongoing internal elections ahead of the decisive congress later this year. Mpofu’s faction is said to be aligned with Chiwenga.

Zanu PF commissar Mike Bimha said dismissed reports of factionalism saying members have “differences and preferences, but that is not factionalism.”

VP Chiwenga Finds New Love

By- Vice President Constantino Chiwenga has found a new love in the name of army Colonel Miniyothabo Baloyi.

This comes after Chiwenga’s acrimonious divorce with former model Marry Mubaiwa.

In a leaked video seen by NewsDay, Chiwenga is seen being interviewed by a Zimbabwe Statistical Agency enumerator and the VP — who doubles as Health and Child Care minister, is heard informing the enumerator that he was currently staying with Baloyi, referring to her as his spouse.

“I am staying here with my spouse, Baloyi and the children,” Chiwenga said when asked who had slept at his home on census night (April 20, 2022).

Colonel Miniyothabo Baloyi

Sources told NewsDay that the army colonel was one of the few people who were allowed to visit Chiwenga when he was hospitalised in China.

“The relationship has been going well, number two (Chiwenga) really trusts Baloyi and that is why she was allowed to visit him in China. They have been staying together for a while,” the source said.

Originally from Nkayi, the 46-year-old Baloyi is said to be one of the sharp minds in the Zimbabwean National Army. She holds a Doctorate in Business Studies from the Midlands State University and two masters degrees from the University of Zimbabwe and the Midlands State University. She speaks six languages including Mandarin, French and Zulu, among others.

Chiwenga’s union with Baloyi is the third in 15 years following his much-publicised splits with Mubaiwa and Jocelyn Mauchaza.

In 2011, Mubaiwa customarily married Chiwenga amid revelations that the two had been staying together after the former army boss left his matrimonial home in April 2010 during his marriage with Mauchaza.

It was reported that he paid US$47 000 as bride price for Marry to the Mubaiwa family.

VP Chiwenga and Marry Mubaiwa in happier times

In 2019, High Court judge Justice Owen Tagu ruled that Mubaiwa’s marriage to Chiwenga was over because he legally divorced her when he sent retired Lieutenant General Anselem Sanyatwe to give her US$100 as a divorce token.

The High Court ruling came after Mubaiwa challenged Chiwenga’s divorce petition which was filed in December 2019.

In response, Marry insisted that their customary marriage still subsisted because Chiwenga failed to follow cultural protocol to terminate the marriage. She further argued that she never got a divorce token because of the failure to follow protocol. She, however, conceded that Chiwenga sent Sanyatwe to give her a divorce token. She further argued that she refused to accept the divorce token because it was in United States dollars and not local currency.

Following Marry’s insistence, Chiwenga made an application in November 2021 pleading with the court to issue an order declaring the customary union as having been terminated.

The High Court judge dismissed Mubaiwa’s claims that she had not received the divorce token. Justice Tagu ruled that the marriage was terminated when Chiwenga sent Sanyatwe with the divorce token on November 24, 2019.

In April this year, Marry was convicted of contravening the Marriages Act after the court ruled that she forged Chiwenga’s signature on the marriage certificate. She still has other pending cases before the courts in which Chiwenga accuses her of attempted murder, fraud and money-laundering.

Chiwenga’s 12-year marriage to Jocelyn crumbled in 2010 after it emerged in court papers that the former army general was at the mercy of the former wife, who had a fiery temper.

Jocelyn used to shop with an entourage of soldiers to push the poor out of the way — and once shouted at the late former Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai who was the leader of the opposition MDC-T party threatening to “take his manhood” when she spotted him on the streets.

She seized two farms from former white farmers reportedly telling them that she would “taste their blood” if they refused to hand over the land.

Council Okays Construction Of Beerhall Near Medical Centre

By A Correspondent- In a rather unusual move, Mvurwi Town council approved construction of a beerhall near a medical centre, a situation which negatively affects patients.

This issue came into light after the owner of the medical facility launched a formal complaint to the Acting Chief Executive Officer of Mvurwi Town Council, Mr Obedia  Gapa.

In his complainant letter, Dr Enock Sithole said the new beerhall was negatively affecting his  patients through excessive noise coming from bands.

“They hire bands that produce noise that even patients fail to sleep. Some patients would be on oxygen when such high decibels are being emitted. Patients need a quiet environment”, he said.

“Moreover the drunken people come and urinate by the fence and the place is now smelling so bad and unhygienic, please assist that the beerhall be relocated or at least make it completely sound proof.”

When contacted for comment, the Acting CEO, Mr Gapa said the construction of the beerhall was above board as all protocols where followed.

He however promised to engage the medical centre on the issue while advising the bar owner to install sound proof.

Zanu PF Incensed By British Lawmaker Over ED Criticism

The ruling Zanu-PF has castigated a vocal United Kingdom lawmaker Jonathan Oates (Lord Oates), a British Liberal Democrat politician and member of the House of Lords, accusing him of being undemocratic and hobnobbing with the Zimbabwean opposition in pursuit of a regime change agenda.

Oates has been one of the many UK lawmakers who have consistently criticised President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s regime, accusing the government of violating human rights and failing to observe the rule of law.

The UK lawmaker has also accused the government of targeting the opposition through arbitrary arrests while shrinking the democratic space but his position has angered the ruling Zanu-PF which described him on Wednesday as undemocratic.

“He is not democratically elected himself. He is a Lord by heredity,” Zanu-PF spokesperson Chris Mutsvangwa said.

“The opposition likes those people who are deviants in society. Why choose those friends? Spare us the Lord Oates of this world who are not democratic themselves,” Mutsvangwa added.

Oates recently told the Zimbabwean government to respect and uphold the country’s constitution or else it remains a subject of international scrutiny.

This came as Zimbabwe recently told the UK and United States officials to stop meddling in Zimbabwe’s internal affairs.

The British lawmaker recently triggered debate in the House of Lords on Zimbabwe’s alleged failure to uphold the constitution and respect human rights while also accusing Zanu-PF of actively undermining the country’s main opposition Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC).

Mutsvangwa recently said Oates was a political toddler suffering from colonial hangover, saying he was an intelligence agent during his days in Zimbabwe under the guise of being a teacher.

But Oates dismissed Mutsvangwa’s allegations as desperate lies, insisting he was a teacher in rural Zimbabwe in the 1980s.

Oates has raised several issues of concern on Zimbabwe in the House of Commons including the Private Voluntary Organisations (PVOs) Amendment Bill and the proposed Patriotic Bill that he said will further shrink the democratic space under Mnangagwa.

The UK has imposed sanctions on Zimbabwe over human rights abuses including the August 2018 shootings and the January 2019 fuel protests killings that saw Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) boss Isaac Moyo, former Presidential Guard commander now Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to Tanzania Anselem Sanyatwe and former State Security minister Owen Ncube being placed under sanctions.

“Mwonzora Politically Dead”

By-Zanu PF sympathisers have suggested that Mwonzora leases out Harvest House because he now does not have officials to fill it up.

Posting on social media, Zanu PF Patriots said Mwonzora is politically dead.

After recent by-elections, it’s clear Mwonzora is left with assets only and a few supporters. The man is definitely blessed with buildings; he is better off leasing out those offices as MDC is dead and about to be buried.

Smuggling Of Zambian Contraband Further Bleeds Zim

By Sofia Mapuranga- The smuggling of a popular energy drink, Kombucha from Zambia is costing Zimbabwe millions of dollars amid revelations that the contraband is not declared at the porous border posts.

The drink, has made waves for being an aphrodisiac among men and the brown and white 330ml bottle is being sold on the streets and Harare’s downtown for a $1.

This writer caught up with one of the traders who is illegally importing this ‘sex booster’ who explained how they use mostly illegal entry points to smuggle the Kombucha drink.

“There are many entry points between Zimbabwe and Zambia which we use to smuggle the Kombucha drink.

“While sometimes, we encounter law enforcement agents, they are ‘easy to deal’”

Quizzed further, the trader claimed they pay bribes to law enforcement agents.

“We just oil them because they are few unlike if we use the Chirundu Border Post,” revealed the trader who only identified himself as Mai Rasta.

She also said the other popular entry point is the Kanyemba Border Post owing to it being understaffed.

“Most of us who are in this trade of importing the Kombucha drink prefer to use  the Kanyemba Border Post because they are few police details, immigration  and Zimra officials.

“The security there is a bit lax such that most of the times they won’t detect that we will be hiding the contraband sometimes in diapers, pads and nappies ,”she said.

A bus driver who plies the Zimbabwe-Zambia route said they are making a killing from people who are smuggling the ‘Kombucha’ drink.

“Most of these Mbuyas (women smugglers) alert us that they have the Kombucha drink and would need us to conceal the stuff for them at Chirundu Border Post for a fee.

“So for every ‘case’ of 12 bottles I charge 3 dollars and on a good day I may have 20 of those which translates to US$60.These new buses we are driving  have so many compartments which  these Zimra guys are not aware of ,”said the driver who requested anonymity.

The Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) head of communications Francis Chimanda confirmed recently that the Kombucha drink was being smuggled in the country and the development was costing the nations millions in revenue.

“There is no record of its importation or any encounters with the product during our various enforcement activities at points of entry or any other areas under Zimra’s jurisdiction,“ he said.

ZIMRA on its schedule of Restricted and Prohibited Goods lists dangerous and harmful drugs, hazardous substances, expired drugs, pornographic, objectionable or undesirable materials and harmful substances which include skin lightening creams, soaps and lotions.

States the ZIMRA:

“The importation and exportation of certain goods and substances is restricted and done in the interest of the public and are meant to protect the consumer However importations and exportation of such goods is possible only under certain conditions such as production of a relevant permit or licence. For some products, the importation or exportation is absolutely prohibited.”

ZIMRA however reports that some of the most common offences at the country’s borders include smuggling, false declaration, the forgery of documents for Customs and Excise purposes, bribery and use of vehicle for smuggling purposes.

The Zimbabwe Anti- Corruption Commission (ZACC) in April 2022 impounded several buses under an anti-smuggling operation.

The development followed revelations by whistleblowers of the rampant corruption at the country’s porous borders.

Last year, law makers presented a  report on the state of service delivery at ports of entry urging  government to prioritise and ensure urgent installation of modern state of the art ICT facilities to enable effective border patrols and surveillance.

Kasukuwere Wades Into Pomonagate Scandal

By Jane Mlambo| Former Local government minister Savior Kasukuwere has dismissed the Pomona waste to energy deal as unacceptable insisting that the minister should not foist it on ratepayers without their consent.

Posting on Twitter, Kasukuwere said the Pomona Waste to energy deal should have been subjected to the Procurement Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe processes.

He also urged government to take responsibility of paying what he termed ridiculous amounts to Geogenix instead of foisting it on ratepayers.

“Pomona Scandal is unacceptable. The Min can’t foist the deal on ratepayers without their consent. Unless govt and cabinet takes responsibility for paying the ridiculous amounts, it can’t fly. The truth is this deal must be subjected to a due process PRAZ!!!,” said Kasukuwere.

The now exiled former Zanu PF commissar said Local government minister July Moyo was out of line.

“There is no such law that imposes a burden on the ratepayers, more so without regard to the tender regulations. The Minis totally out of line and we should call him out. Govt has processes and they should be respected.”

“If govt feels strongly then they should use Mthuli’s budget to pay the 22k/day. However to impose the burden on city ratepayers is also not acceptable. In other words, you can’t spend ratepayers funds without their consent. No taxation without representation,” added Kasukuwere.

Rusape Family Wins 10 Ok Grand Challenge Cars

By- A Rusape family has won OK Grand Challenge car for the 10th time.

Clement Muhle and his family have won their 10th car in the past five years.

His wife, Fatima Muhle, was the recipient of a Delta Corporation-sponsored Nissan NP200 on Saturday.

To date, Muhle’s children – four boys and four girls – have won a car each except for their youngest son, a one-year-old, who is yet to try his luck.

Fatima told the state media that she earned the prize after recently opening a bar in Rusape. Said Fatima:

I am happy that I have won my first car after having played second fiddle to my husband and children.

I recently opened a bar in Rusape and promised myself to move big volumes in order to win because that’s the only secret to winning anything in the competition.

I am still considering whether to keep the car or invest it in the business.

Juju claims:

She dismissed reports the family might be earning all these benefits through the use of juju.

Like I said, it’s all about the volumes you buy on a particular product that increase your chances.

We have Christian values and we don’t use juju, those who accuse us of using it have never treated the competition seriously like we do.

Meanwhile, Prosper Zambuko, from Kwekwe, walked away with the biggest prize, a double-cab Ford Ranger worth US$72 000.

Zanu PF Prepares Mwonzora’s Political Coffin

By-Zanu PF sympathisers have suggested that Mwonzora leases out Harvest House because he now does not have officials to fill it up.

Posting on social media, Zanu PF Patriots said Mwonzora is politically dead.

Posted Zanu PF Patriots:

After recent by-elections, it’s clear Mwonzora is left with assets only and a few supporters. The man is definitely blessed with buildings; he is better off leasing out those offices as MDC is dead and about to be buried.

Chiwenga Finds New Love

“Moreblessing Ali Is Alive,” ZANU PF Leader Says

” I know that the person is alive…”

THIS INVESTIGATION IS SPONSORED BY PHUMULANI MINNESOTA AFRICAN WOMEN AGAINST VIOLENCE.

By A Correspondent | The sun is shining bright, though temperatures are winter low, and we are on a long search for Moreblessing Ali, a 46y old CCC party activist who was kidnapped on 24th May 2022 after 8pm by named ZANU PF activists in the Nyatsime area.

The incident according witnesses, happened at the Chibhanguza Night Club, where Moreblessing Ali was assaulted and then dragged into the nearby bush. She is missing for nearly 2 weeks to date.

By this time, ZANU PF Spokesperson Simba Chisango has claimed to ZimEye saying he ‘knows’ that Moreblessing Ali us alive:

Upon entering the Nyatsime area, the atmosphere changes. The air is thick full of fear, people are barely talking especially with strangers, and rarely walking around as usual. We pass through Chibhanguza Night Club on the way to ZANU PF Chairperson Simba Chisango’s home.

Getting into the street, ZimEye notices several children being chased off and being threatened with violence, an incident so frightening that we can’t film it. “Where are you going?- Murikuenda kupiko?,” a group of emotionally charged unidentified men ask them before picking up stones to assault the vulnerable minors so to ward them off Chisango’s house. What is inside this shackhouse that is so protected and even harmless kids should not see?

Talking to several people, the conclusion is- tension and angers are rising over Moreblessing Ali’s forced disappearance.

There are two vehicles, a green Toyota Altezza, and a dark grey Nissan Xtrail (3 police officers, one of them one holding an AK rifle). We manage to get at least number plates of the Toyota Altezza: AEH8372. The Nissan Xtrail belongs to a uniformed police officer. Even though we fail to get finer details, it is visually clear that the several men inside the vehicles are closely guarding Mr Simba Chisango.

When he walks around, he moves with a vigilante of predominantly youths, numbering more than 10.

His property (drone video), at the left side, has a combined red and green roof.

Drone footage at the property Moreblessing could easily be housed, shows Chisango’s home as a quiet, red and green-mix roofing, surrounded by other squatter houses, with no numbers as they are an informal settlement granted by the ruling ZANU PF.

Drone footage captures people walking around, but due to the security fears, movements are so minimal, you can easily count the number of people pacing around. We spot just 20 people walking slowly in a large area of more than 800 houses, built without planning permission but under a ZANU PF program lyrically termed in a party song: ZANU PF yakasimba kumaSero- (ZANU PF is strong from cell level.), and this is a Build up to the 2023 election as people are parcelled non regulated land which they will lose if they vote for the opposition.

In the small cachement area where Simba Chisango lives, we see during the period, no one daring to transverse or even encroach his gateway. Is this a coincidence, or this is the work of State agents?

Later on, we spot two vehicles, the Toyota Altezza and a Nissan Xtrail, full of men we obtain, are protecting Simba Chisango.

Our international news desk team calls Mr Simba Chisango once again, this time via phone. The phone is picked up by a woman who says she is his wife. He briefly answers, before putting the phone down after realising he is talking to the media, somewhat avoiding his previous contradictory statements in the 20 min interview on 30 May 2022 (VIDEO BELOW), when he said he only got to know of Moreblessing Ali’s disappearance in social media, but would in less than 2 minutes, shift to the opposite as he began sahing that he first obtained information on Moreblessing Ali’s disappearance right on the ground at Chibhanguza (not from social media as earlier said).

Where is Moreblessing Ali?, he was asked, to which he said, “I am only hearing about this story on social media, you hear?”

“I am just hearing it on social media, come to area and investigate if you want us to agree. Isn’t it?”

The conversation continues as follows-

So, you are telling me you don’t know anything about Moreblessing Ali?

“Me?, she is someone I know- Moreblessing Ali who works in Chitungwiza, in Unit B, she is someone I knew, and is now staying in Nyatsime.”

Why are you using past tense?

“I am meaning where she was staying in Unit B. I was staying in H. Right, from there, she was staying there, until she started living here in Nyatsime, that’s what I know, such that, the information you are asking me about I heard it at the Chibhanguza area, that’s where I hear some commotion happened there, this and that happened, that’s what I heard.”

So you, what have you done, as a ZANU PF leader in the area, so that Moreblessing is found?

“I think we even did some investigations with police, we got into the area, this and that, but, aaah, I know that the person is alive. Isn’t it? Are you hearing?”

“There is no way she would just disappear, the information which I hear, that the people she clashed with, one of them sped off while holding a catapult, after a gun had been pulled out. This is the information, the other one I actually got it today (sic). I am struggling to establish what really happened.”

After this, Simba Chisango names the man now implicated in a police report, and acknowledges that Pius Jamba (the man accused of assaulting Moreblessing Ali and dragging her into the nearby bush, is his cousin.

“Listen Comrade, let me explain to you what’s making my name to come out… there is a young man by name, Pius Jamba, he is the son from my mother’s side, but when people see him, they say he is a Chisango. Right so, from that word, the Chisango who is being talked about is me, a senior in the ZANU PF party, people will be saying he is Chisango’s young brother…”

Chisango is then asked: since your relative is involved in kidnapping Moreblessing, what can you do today for us to find Moreblessing? He replies:

“Now, me now, that question you’re asking me on what to do to find Moreblesssing; I don’t have any reply, because I am just another person confused on this person who is said to be missing.

The young man himself is missing, Moreblessing is missing, the other young man from Mbuya Mhatsva is also missing. If it had been that there is at least one person who is visible, we would then ask that person where the others are,” he says.

But then this young man is your family, so what can you do Mr Chisango?

“Yes, that’s what I am saying I won’t deny him, one can’t reject their relative because they have committed a crime; if he is my relative he will meet his own stories. Do you hear me well, Comrade?”

To this, Simba Chikanza demands what Chisango will do to find Moreblessing, and the conversation continues for the remaining, over 14 minutes.

The police, having been previously quiet for over 5 days, suddenly, soon after this interview, produce a report that agrees with everything Chisango has said in the interview; but the ZRP report which states that the ZANU PF official, Chisango is not involved, fails to mention that the accused is Jamba’s cousin.

The police report also claims Moreblessing (46) was kidnapped following a love affair scuffle with a Pius Jamba who is the age of her own son (25). Moreblessing Ali’s family dismisses the report as “ridiculous.” How could Moreblessing date someone as young as her first born son?, her brother Washington says to ZimEye.

Zengeza MP Job Sikhala also tells ZimEye in an interview, “this Simba Chisango, his brother and their group are known for running terror operations in the whole area.”

A day later, an anonymous message is delivered at Zengeza MP, Job Sikhala’s doorstep, on a piece of paper which says that Chisango is clearly involved in the abduction. It states in Shona as follows:

“-Vakamutsakatisa mukadzi uyu [THEY MADE THIS WOMAN DISAPPEAR]
-Vanhu vacho vanoti
Chisango, brother yake, mukadzi wake, Liberty Mondiwa nevamwe vacho [PEOPLE INVOLVED ARE CHISANGO, HIS BROTHER, HIS WIFE, LIBERTY MONDIWA AND OTHERS]

-Ndapona mupaburi retsono. Ndine mazino matatu ari kuzungunuka.

[I SURVIVED BY A WHISKER, 3 OF MY TEETH ARE CRACKLING]

-Mapurisa yeku Beatrice akauya nezuro kuzotora nyaya.” [BEATRICE POLICE CAME YESTERDAY TO INVESTIGATE]”

Contacted on the Monday 6th June 2022, a woman believed to be Chisango’s wife who picks up the phone, emotionally screams out, asking: “Who are you and what do you want? Why do you keep calling this phone?” VIDEO LOADING BELOW…

Opposition leader, Nelson Chamisa’s CCC party has produced a report saying: ‘the Police has revealed that the chief suspect, Pius Jamba, is also on the run for other criminal offences. According to information in the possession of the CCC investigation team, Jambo is allegedly facing charges of murder and fraud. Today, further investigations have revealed that chief suspect, Jambo, is in hiding in Hurungwe.

A team has been dispatched to conduct a further search for him there while the investigation into the whereabouts of Moreblessing Ali continue.’

On the 6th June 2022, ZimEye’s Simba Chikanza telephones Mr. Simba Chisango and reiterates the message to him:

Morning Mr Chisango… I’m sure you’re already aware you’re under 24/7 surveillance over the kidnapping of Moreblessing Ali. You’re already aware this is an international criminal prosecution case now, meaning you will be arrested in several countries upon arriving in nations such as Zambia, South Africa,UK, Australia, US, and others. You have an opportunity to talk to me and clear up the huge discrepancies in what you said in the interview.

Another Political Life For Boris Johnson

By- British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has won a confidence vote.

Johnson garnered 211 votes in a secret poll participated by 359 lawmakers of his governing Conservative Party Monday evening.

The vote wanted to determine the Prime minister’s flagging authority over the “partygate” scandal.

Johnson was under growing pressure after a report documenting alcohol-fuelled parties at the heart of power when Britain was under strict lockdowns to tackle COVID-19.

Ramaphosa Speaks On Kidnapping, Bribery Allegations

By-South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has denied committing kidnapping and Bribery offences.

Last week, former Central Intelligence boss Arthur Fraser said Ramaphosa should be investigated for concealing a theft case of $4m (£3.2m) that happened in 2020 at one of his properties .

Ramaphosa then confirmed a robbery at his farm in Limpopo “in which proceeds from the sale of game were stolen”. But then questions were raised as to why he had that sum in cash.
Talking to supporters at the weekend, Mr Ramaphosa alleged that as a farmer, he frequently bought and sold cattle, and he often gets paid in cash. In addition, he denied that the amount stolen was anywhere near $4 million, BCC reports. He said:
All this was money from proceeds from selling animals… I have never stolen money from anywhere… and will never do so.
Ramaphosa replaced Jacob Zuma as the country’s head of state in 2018 after the latter was forced to step down amid corruption allegations.
The president has made combatting corruption a priority of his government but critics question his commitment to the anti-corruption drive considering that the misuse of state funds, especially over money earmarked for fighting COVID-19, has continued during his presidency.

Mutodi Receives Death Threats?

Goromonzi West MP, Energy Mutodi (ZANU PF), says he has been receiving death threats over the few days.

Mutodi, a former Deputy Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Service Minister, said he has increased his personal security as a result of the threats. He tweeted on Sunday:

“I am tightening personal security following direct and indirect threats on my life in recent days.

MPs are public officials who represent the people and speak for the voiceless.

They must never be targeted for what they say or do in or outside Parliament.”

Barely three weeks ago, Mutodi urged President Emmerson Mnangagwa to reshuffle his Cabinet as a matter of urgency to avoid a humiliating defeat in the 2023 elections.

Mutodi said that some cabinet members do not have what it takes to help Mnangagwa solve the country’s economic challenges.

Mutodi had earlier criticised Finance and Economic Development Minister Mthuli Ncube in the National Assembly, asking why it took him such a long time to realise that buying and selling foreign currency has become the primary business in the country.

Of Patrick Chinamasa’s Dubious War Record

Liberation Struggle Sellout Chinamasa Shut Up!!”

By Jeffryson Chitando

An Ian Smith blueboy Patrick Chinamasa must shut up as he has nothing to teach Zimbabweans about the liberation struggle history ,aims and objectives.

Chinamasa has a great history ,appetite and energy for fighting the people’s cause. His history is about going against the majority of Zimbabweans.

Chinamasa to threaten Zimbabweans not to vote Citizens Coalition For Change with war is a reckless statement coming from one who doesn’t know the reasons of going to war.

Chinamasa must remember that with his friends Ian Smith and Muzorewa they were fighting against One Man One Vote. All liberation struggle fighters know that it’s impossible for Zimbabweans to wage a war against Chamisa’s CCC as the power is with the voters.

The Zimbabwe National Army is not a wing of ZanuPF.ZNA is there for any government of the day .ZNA is to protect Zimbabweans not a madman like Chinamasa.ZNA wants a stable economy, good leadership for Zimbabwe and democratically elected leadership.

Chinamasa must know that he does not own the army nor the weapons .The ZNA and all military weapons are owned by the people of Zimbabwe.

Chinamasa must be possessed by the evil spirit which made him support Ian Smith and Muzorewa to fight the people of Zimbabwe.

Remembering Hwange Mine Victims

Today officially marks 50 years after the occurrence of the greatest tragedy in the history of mining in Zimbabwe

On 6th June 1972, the Whange local communities and indeed the rest of the country and world was forced to witness and endure one of the most horrific mining disasters in the entire history of the world.

A series of multiple underground explosions led to the tragic loss of at least 427 lives at the Kamandama mining site near Madumabisa

It was a tragic experience that left an indelible black mark not only within the Whange local communities but also across Zimbabwe and the rest of the world.

May all their dear souls continue to rest in peace.

Today, as we commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Kamandama mining disaster, we call upon the mining industry and the government to reaffirm their commitment to mining environmental safety and promotion of workers rights and equitable benefits

We also call upon the management of the local Colliery company to come up with a robust and sustainable plan for the widows and surviving members of the families of all those who tragically passed away during the 1972 Kamandama mining disaster

They Want To Kill Me – Mutodi

He also asked Ncube why Zimbabwe continued to use bond notes when he (Mthuli) has previously stated that “bad money drives out good money” before he became a Cabinet Minister.- Pindula News

Grace Mugabe Now Twice A Widow

State Media – The family of the late Stanley Goreraza, who is former First Lady Grace Mugabe’s ex-husband, has asked for privacy as they mourn the former Air Force of Zimbabwe (AFZ) officer, who succumbed to cancer over the weekend.
His family could not say whether or not Grace would attend the funeral.

The funeral is in New Marlborough in Harare. The family preferred to direct questions to the AFZ chaplain.

“The family has requested privacy during these trying times. The main church service will be tomorrow (today). Burial arrangements will be announced in due course,” an AFZ chaplain, who declined to be named, told NewsDay yesterday.

Vice Air Marshal Biltim Chingono visited the family and paid his condolences yesterday, describing Goreraza as a dedicated soldier.

“His love for the country was unquestionable. We have lost a gallant son of the soil; someone who was patriotic,” Chingono said.

Goreraza and Grace have a son, Russel.

Goreraza was posted to serve as a military attaché, first in China and later in India after Mugabe snatched his wife.

Headmaster Steals School Funds

The headmaster of Hartzell High School, Shorwi Kawadza, pocketed more than $2 million for firewood supplies made to the school by a company he owns.

According to a recent audit report compiled by Gesimat Consultancy and Auditors, Kawadza, through his Mutrue company, received payments amounting to more than $2 million from the United Methodist Church-run school.

The audit report revealed that there was no declaration of interest or approval.

United Methodist Church’s Administrative Assistant to the Bishop, Reverend Alan Masimba Gurupira confirmed the development to The Manica Post. He said:

We instituted an audit at Hartzell High School through the Council of Finance and Administration and we now have the report, but an audit report cannot be quickly read and interpreted.

We will only be able to discuss the contents after we go through them and sit down to deliberate on the matter. That will be after two days or so.

The audit report says there were no invoices for goods received or documents showing the items purchased were indeed received by the school. Read part of the audit report:

We noted that Mutrue Investments (Private) Limited was a commodity supplier to the school. The company was registered on May 13, 2019, and is registered under Certificate of Incorporation 7605/2019.

The registered directors are Shorwi Kawadza (42-080703 T-42) of House Number 3982, Hobhouse 2, Mutare; Janepher Kawadza (42-108328-W-42) of 3982, Hobhouse 2, Mutare and Mutsa Chanyoka (48-104773-W-42) of 3982, Hobhouse 2, Mutare.

We reviewed the school minutes to ascertain whether Mr Shorwi Kawadza had made a declaration of interest to supply the school and confirm whether there was approval. We did not find the declaration of interest or approval.

Hartzell High School paid Mutrue Investments $238 541 in 2020 and $1 978 110 in 2021 for various items, but mainly firewood.

There were no invoices for goods received or any other note to prove that the items purchased were indeed received by the school.- Manica Post

Mbudzi Roundabout Shuts Down For 1y

State Media – The Mbudzi roundabout in Harare will be closed for one and half years to enable the construction of a traffic interchange to proceed with minimum disruptions.

The roundabout is at the intersection of Simon Mazorodze, Chitungwiza and High Glen Roads that feed traffic from western Chitungwiza and many old and new Harare suburbs into Harare city centre as well as the heavy national and regional traffic on the Harare-Masvingo highway.
Construction work started last year at the roundabout which had been a major choke-point of Southern Harare before Government committed resources to turn it into an interchange as the Second Republic continues to upgrade infrastructure to cope with modern demands and trends.

Transport and Infrastructure Development Minister Felix Mhona gave a notice to close the roundabout in a Statutory Instrument published in a Government Gazette last Friday.

“It is hereby notified that the Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development, in terms of section 30 of the Roads Act [Chapter 13:18], intends to close the portions of the road described hereunder and as shown on the layout plan 1-ZW125-C167 for the purposes of construction of Mbudzi Interchange.

“The portions of the roads described hereunder shall be closed for a period of one and half years and the motoring public shall be using diversion route: Malvern Road, Forbes Road, Hopely Road and Stoneridge Road bypass Mbudzi,” said Minister Mhona.

Construction of detours is already at an advanced stage as most of the alternative roads have been tarred, giving comfort to motorists who ply the routes.

According to the Statutory Instrument, some of the roads to be closed to allow construction of the interchange include those that constitute the four legs into Mbudzi traffic circle for a distance 15 kilometres from the centre line of the traffic circle on all four legs with a road reserve of 70 metres from the road centre line and on either side.

“A portion of Harare-Masvingo road at Mbudzi, 1,5 kilometres before the centre line of the traffic circle and 1,5 kilometres after the traffic circle. A portion of Chitungwiza road 1,5 kilometres after the traffic circle going to Chitungwiza. A portion of High Glen road 1,5 kilometres after the traffic circle going to High Glen,” reads the notice.

Minister Mhona called on those who might have an objection to the closure to make representation at his office.

“The Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development hereby calls upon any person who wishes to object to the proposed closure to lodge his or her objection at the offices of the Secretary for Transport and Infrastructural Development, Office 90, 14th Floor or Office 72, 15th Floor, Kaguvi Building, corner Simon Vengai Muzenda Street and Ahmed Ben Bella Avenue, Harare within one month from the date of publication of this notice,” reads the notice.

In an interview yesterday, Minister Mhona said the one and half years was a contingent time frame that they will be working on.

“We can complete even earlier than that period. We have just used 18 months as a contingent period,” said Minister Mhona.

In its efforts to develop the country into an upper middle-income economy by 2030, the Second Republic led by President Mnangagwa has invested significantly in the upgrade and rehabilitation of the country’s road infrastructure.

Mbudzi roundabout had become a source of major inconvenience to both domestic and international travellers where delays of up to three hours during peak hours as well as traffic jams had become the order of the day.

The new interchange comprises five large box culverts, one river bridge, four grade separation bridges, mechanically stabilised earth embarkments and asphalt paved loop roads and directional ramps.

It is envisaged that the interchange will also be adorned with modern roadlights, CCTV, SATC compliant road signage and feature diversion routes to form part of the permanent works.

Construction work is being done in line with regional engineering standards and international best practices.

Funding of the project is being done through local financial institutions while the contractor for the project is a joint venture of three accomplished local road construction companies in the Zimbabwe built environment namely Tensor Systems, Fossil Contracting and Masimba Construction collectively coming under the banner of Tefoma Construction Joint venture.

Some of the benefits of the project include decongestion of the Mbudzi area by creating streamlined and efficient traffic flow, reducing transit time and accidents in the area.

The project is creating direct employment for over 700 employees and downstream activities for over 10 000 people while creating skills transfer and upgrade for the Department of Roads staff.—Herald

Joana Case Cop Says We Didn’t Arrest’em

The officer in-charge of a police checkpoint where CCC members Joana Mamombe and Cecelia Chimbiri claimed to have been arrested near the Harare showgrounds in May 2020, last week insisted in court that no arrests were made on that day.

Constable Nashley Muyedzenga also told the court that he never witnessed any police officer disembarking from a car that was trailing Mamombe and Chimbiri to arrest the two, as they claimed to have happened.

He was giving evidence this in the on-going trial of Mamombe and Chimbiri on charges of faking their abductions at the hands of the police.

Cst Muyedzenga told the court that if the police at showgrounds had arrested Mamombe and Chimbiri, they should have taken them to Milton Park police station, not to Harare Central where they claim to have been taken before whisked to a Muchapondwa Growth point in Mashonaland Central province.

“There was no notable incident that occurred on the day in question. We did not arrest any vehicle or any passersby,” he said.

“It was not a busy day and there was low traffic. I did not see them. I cannot deny that they were stopped at the roadblock but there was no police officer who arrested them. There was no such an incident and If I had seen them, I would have told the court,” he said.

Cst Muyedzengi acknowledged that a lawyer visited at the roadblock asking whether Mamombe, Chimbiri and Netsai Marova, who is on the run, were arrested at the roadblock. He told the lawyer that there was no one who had been arrested before directing him to other nearby roadblocks.

“It is true a lawyer came to roadblock. I cannot remember his name. He produced a practicing certificate but I did not write down his name,” he said.

Cst Muyedzengi testified that the lawyer arrived at the roadblock around 3pm and he treated him like any other citizen making enquiries. He said ‘I am looking for people who were arrested at a roadblock’. We had not arrested anyone and I asked him to go and check at other roadblocks.

“He was first attended to by Sgt Mashizha from ZNA. The lawyer did not know which roadblock, but he was randomly checking. Accused were never arrested at our roadblock. If they were arrested at our roadblock they would have been taken to Milton Park. It was irregular for them to be taken to Harare Central if they had been arrested at our roadblock,” he said.

Cst Muyedzengi said he was not aware that the two were abducted and tortured adding that they could have reported a complaint of kidnapping, if that ever happened. The trial is expected to continue on June 10.

Chief magistrate Mrs Faith Mushure presided while Mr Michael Reza prosecuted.

Facts About Climate Change

The new WHO policy brief recommends five important approaches for governments to address the mental health impacts of climate change:

integrate climate considerations with mental health programmes;
integrate mental health support with climate action;
build upon global commitments;
develop community-based approaches to reduce vulnerabilities; and
close the large funding gap that exists for mental health and psychosocial support.

Maengahama Speaks On Prison Horror

By Last Maengahama

It’s now a solid year after Tungamirai Madzokere and l were released from Chikurubi Maximum Prison where we had spent close to a decade serving a 20 year sentence for a crime that we had not committed, our only crime was being members of MDC led by the late Morgan Richard Tsvangirai, May His Soul Rest In Power, we didn’t attend his funeral because we were locked up.

Ours was a case of, there must be a conviction no matter the amount of evidence exonerating the accused, no matter how watertight their alibis are, MDC T members must be the imprisoned at all cost.

Our release on the fourth of June 2021 was a joyous and sad moment, joyous that as political prisoners we were free at last and sad because justice for the late inspector Mutedza wasn’t done, the police and the courts chose to play politics instead of solving a murder case and bringing the actual perpetrators to book.

Justice wasn’t served and in a normal country the Courts would have been put to task, because this is a clear case of how unfair and unjust the court system is in matters that involves pro democracy activists, l call upon all stakeholders to advocate for a Fair and Just judicial system.

Our stay in prison was illegal but it was also an eye opener as we were exposed to the urgenty needs of reforms in the prison system, there is a Rehabilitation crisis, Prisoners aren’t being prepared for re-integration in the society but left alone to choose a life of crimes or law abiding citizens, there is a serious need of cases review in prison because some convicts are innocent, they are imprisoned because of miscarriage of justice.

When we were sentenced to 20 years in prison the Judge was clear that it was a lenient sentence because one of our co accused was a female and the Constitution of Zimbabwe doesn’t allow women to be executed, that’s why we were a saved from death penalty, to think of it that as innocent as we were, we were nearly send to the noose, it is then without no second thought or regret that l call for the abolishment of the Death Penalty because the probability of execution of an innocent people is higher than of an actual criminal and the Death Penalty maybe abused to settle political issues.

Police Gun-Down Notorious Robber

By-The National security Task Force (NTF) has gunned down an alleged armed robber who was part of a 10-member gang terrorising migrants and smugglers along the Limpopo River.

The notorious robber was shot and killed last Thursday night.

The gang would target those people entering and leaving the country through illegal crossing points closer to the old Limpopo Bridge.

The Chronicle say on the day of the shootout, the suspect pounced on a couple on a footpath near the Alfred Beitbridge and robbed them of R5 000 after attacking them with knives.

National police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi the identity of the shot suspect will be released in due course adding they were still pursuing other gang members. He added:
Preliminary investigations reveal that the now deceased suspect who was in the company of nine others who are still at large and were armed with knives came across a couple that was walking towards Zimbabwe from the South Africa side of the border.
They then encircled them and stabbed the husband with knives on the hands and took from him R5000, his wife managed to escape and she alerted our security agents on our side who swiftly reacted.

When the security team arrived, they found the gang further stripping the complainant of his belongings and fired warning shots, but the gang charged at them and they opened fire killing one of the suspects.
He said soon after the shooting, other gang members escaped to the South African side of the Limpopo River.
He warned members of the public against using illegal crossing points to leave or enter the country or to move goods saying they risked being attacked and losing their lives. He also said they will be arrested if caught.

Breaking….Boris Johnson Wins Confidence Vote

By- British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has won a confidence vote.

Of 359 MPs who cast their votes, 148 voted against Johnson.

Lawmakers from his governing Conservative Party voted Monday to determine the Prime minister’s flagging authority over the “partygate” scandal.

Johnson was under growing pressure after a report documenting alcohol-fuelled parties at the heart of power when Britain was under strict lockdowns to tackle COVID-19.

Ramaphosa In Kidnapping, Bribery Storm

By-South Africa’s former spy Boss Arthur Fraser has opened a docket against President Cyril Ramaphosa, accusing him of kidnapping and Bribery.

The South African President has, however, rubbished reports.

Fraser last week said the case related to the alleged attempted theft of $4m (£3.2m) happened in 2020 at one of the president’s properties and the alleged efforts to conceal what happened.

Political Life Or Death For Boris Johnson

By- British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is this evening facing a confidence vote after many lawmakers in the governing Conservative Party questioned his flagging authority over the “partygate” scandal.

Johnson has been under growing pressure after a report documenting alcohol-fuelled parties at the heart of power when Britain was under strict lockdowns to tackle COVID-19.
In a searing attack on the once seemingly unassailable Johnson, Jesse Norman, a loyalist who served as a junior minister in the finance ministry between 2019 and 2021, said the prime minister staying in power insulted both the electorate and the party.
He is just one of several Conservative lawmakers who have voiced concern over whether Johnson, 57, has lost his authority to govern Britain, which is facing the risk of recession, rising prices and strike-inflicted travel chaos in the capital London.
“The threshold of 15% of the parliamentary party seeking a vote of confidence in the leader of the Conservative Party has been exceeded,” Graham Brady, chairman of the party’s 1922 Committee that represents rank-and-file Conservative lawmakers, wrote in a note.
Brady said a vote would be held between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. (1700-1900 GMT) on Monday.
“The votes will be counted immediately afterwards. An announcement will be made at a time to be advised,” Brady said.
A spokesperson for Johnson’s Downing Street office said the vote was “a chance to end months of speculation and allow the government to draw a line and move on, delivering on the people’s priorities”.
“The PM welcomes the opportunity to make his case to MPs (members of parliament) and will remind them that when they’re united and focused on the issues that matter to voters there is no more formidable political force.”
A majority of Conservative lawmakers – or 180 – would have to vote against Johnson for him to be removed – a level some Conservatives say might be difficult to reach. If passed, there would then be a leadership contest to decide his replacement.
Since the release of the damning report into the so-called “partygate” scandal, which listed fights and alcohol-induced vomiting at lockdown-breaking parties in Downing Street, Johnson and his government had urged lawmakers to move on.
But many returned to their constituencies, or voting regions, last week to find a chorus of complaints over Johnson’s behaviour. The prime minister was also jeered and booed by the public at Platinum Jubilee celebrations for the Queen at the weekend, although there were some cheers for him.
Steve Barclay, who was appointed the chief of staff at Downing Street after reports of the parties, urged lawmakers not to “waste the remaining half of the parliament on distractions over leadership”.
“If we continually divert our direction as a Conservative Party – and by extension the government and the country – into a protracted leadership debate, we will be sending out the opposite message,” he wrote on the Conservative Home website.
But in perhaps the biggest sign that criticism of Johnson has spread beyond a vocal group of so-called rebels, Norman listed his complaints of the British leader’s behaviour and also of what he described as a lack of “mission”.
“People are crying out for good government … neither the Conservative Party nor this country can afford to squander the next two years adrift and distracted by endless debate about you and your leadership,” he wrote in a letter published on Twitter.
“For you to prolong this charade by remaining in office not only insults the electorate, and the tens of thousands of people who support, volunteer, represent and campaign for our party; it makes a decisive change of government at the next election much more likely. That is potentially catastrophic for this country.” REUTERS

Alex Magaisa Perfectly Completed his Assignment

By Dr Tinashe Gumbo | When I first received the news, I was troubled. I broke the same distasteful news to my wife Angela who is close to Estery Magaisa, the sister to the late, Dr Alex Magaisa. Angela was also troubled. The whole world was troubled. The social media became a boring platform because of the BAD news.

Alex-Magaisa…

Oh, yah indeed, it was not an easy moment to accept this new reality, that the intellectual giant had gone, gone to be with his Maker. In my other life, during the Inclusive Government, I personally interacted with this giant-yes, I was part of the team that was “shepherding the democratic processes” then in Zimbabwe. I liked him!

However, I have since accepted that Dr Magaisa has gone. Indeed, I should be consoled by the fact that he went because he had finished his race, but most importantly, he had concluded his special assignment.

I am now convinced that he fulfilled his royal assignment. He had a special assignment here on earth, that is why he was born among us, during our time. It could not have happened any other time except on a Pentecost Day, the 5th of June 2022, when a special assignment had been concluded.

His assignment was fashioned through his intellectual capacity. It was fashioned through public lecturing. Dr Magaisa implemented his assignment so well. He was assigned to be part of the Inclusive Government and that is why we now boast of a very progressive constitution as a country. He educated all of us on political and constitutional matters. He jumped in to be with us each time we were intellectually weak on contemporary issues affecting our nation.

Some of us thought we were in a political struggle that was being technically assisted by Dr Magaisa, yet, he was actually fulfilling a special assignment for his God. His position as a law expert was not important compared to the assignment he needed to fulfill before the 5th of June 2022.

Dr Magaisa broke BIG ideas into small accessible and understandable information for an ordinary citizen of the world. He interacted with the elites; the educated; the poor; the complicated; the simple and indeed, all of us as can be testified by the messages flowing on all social media platforms since yesterday.

God located Dr Magaisa for a special assignment, which he fulfilled so well. God leveraged Dr Magaisa and everything he said or touched made sense to all of us. But most importantly, God linked Dr Magaisa to all of us in order for us to feed from his intellectual prowess.

Dr Magaisa chose that which he was passionate about-to educate the public; he chose to be available for all of us. He became a willing and committed teacher to the world.

My colleagues, let us no longer be troubled, this good teacher of law completed his assignment. He did his best and this was indeed the opportune time for him to say good bye to us all. We will miss his goodness, yes, but after completing some assignment, surely one has to go and indeed, the Good learned friend, brother, colleague, father, husband and world citizen had to leave.

Go Well Dr Magaisa!
Go Well the public teacher!
Go Well Son of the Soil!

Tamborinyoka Pens A Touching Magaisa Farewell

Alex Magaisa—Farewell to a thought champion
By Luke Tamborinyoka
The body that is sown is perishable, it is raised imperishable. It is sown in dishonor and raised in glory; it is sown in weakness and raised in power. It is sown a natural body, it is raised as a spiritual body.”
(1 Corinthians 15 verses 42-44)
Alex Tawanda Magaisa is no more. He died Sunday morning and Zimbabweans received the news of his death with great shock. He had enamoured himself to the average Zimbabwean through his weekly incisive treatise that he dubbed the Big Saturday Read (BSR).
But yesterday, as the social media universe went into a torrid frenzy following his untimely death, Magaisa’s unfortunate demise became the Big Sunday Death (BSD).
I knew Alex Magaisa well. During the era of the inclusive government between 2012 and 2013, I worked with him at The Prime Minister’s Office at Charter House at the corner of Julius Nyerere Way and Samora Machel Avenue. Alex was the Prime Minister’s political advisor while I was the PM’s spokesperson. His office was number 205 and mine was 206. Both of us were part of a contingent of Dr Tsvangirai’s staffers that had not been attested into the civil service but still humbly served the same government that had refused to formally employ us.
Alex was a sober character who spoke with a softness that belied his huge knowledge and competence. He had depth. And width too. In the daily briefings with the Prime Minister, you would always expect Magaisa to alert the boss and the office of the possible future political dangers of seemingly innocuous political developments.
Such was his foresight. And maybe that’s why he wore glasses!
Dr Tsvangirai’s analysis of Alex Magaisa’s contribution to the PM’s Office are contained in my forthcoming book, Service and Sacrifice. In the sculpting of the country’s current Constitution, Alex had ably assisted our COPAC team led by Douglas Mwonzora, who has now become notorious for assisting Zanu PF in tearing asunder the same Constitution he led in its making. In the forthcoming book, now with the publishers, Dr Tsvangirai makes the point that Magaisa played his part in the making of Zimbabwe’s 2013 Constitution and that even though he (Dr Tsvangirai) had not known him before, the UK-based law lecturer competently served the PM’s Office. While others thought it was a weakness that Dr Tsvangirai would appoint as political advisor someone who had not been in the MDC before, the former Prime Minister says the merit lay in that he was not tainted by the baggage of internal party politics.
Alex, or Musairwa, his totem which I used to address him, was a man of a great, alert mind. He was a thought champion who would unpack the country’s political developments in a simple way. Sometime in May 2013, when his personal driver and uncle Edmore Munyoro, whom he affectionately called ‘Bra Eddie” died in a car accident, Alex was seriously affected by that death. Bra Eddie died while driving Alex’s car from Murehwa.
They had grown up together in Wedza with Bra Eddie. They were so close and Eddie’s death greatly affected him.
After the death of Dr Tsvangirai, we both felt we had lost a mentor. A friend. An irreplaceable boss. We spent almost a week exchanging online our unforgettable experiences and interactions with Dr Tsvangirai. The moments of laughter we had shared with Zimbabwe’s icon who died on Valentine Day in 2018.
Today we have lost yet another Musairwa. Alex too was a citizens’ hero. A patriot. A change champion. A thought champion.
His incisive column was always a must-read. It showcased the soft power of thought, ink and the pen. In his own unique way, Alex “luke-d” the beast in the eye and used his literary prowess to challenge the status quo.
Go well Musairwa. Zimbabweans will miss your incisive analysis of the political developments in this great country that we all love. Go well, thought champion.
The citizens will always savour your written material which remains immortalized in cyberspace for the benefit of future generations.
Go well, Alex. The citizens will always remember you as a patriot who was struck down in mid-stride. At 46, you died well in your prime.
As you lie in the soft requiem of death, let me make this promise to you, Musairwa. We, the citizens, will ensure that through the next election, we deliver the new Great Zimbabwe that you so much aspired for.
May you great soul and incisive pen rest in eternal power.

Mnangagwa Has Failed

Tinashe Sambiri|CCC leader President Nelson Chamisa has challenged Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa to concede failure and allow young people to fix the country’s comatose economy.

Observers postulate Mr Mnangagwa, touted as a political saint in 2017, has dismally failed to fix the country’s economy.

According to President Chamisa, young people are ready to lead the country to prosperity.

“Our generation is now ready to take over and give full effect and meaning to the LIBERATION DREAM. Ours is the TRANSFORMATION TASK! We’re the Transformation generation. We honour the outgoing liberation generation. All hands on deck,” President Chamisa wrote on Twitter.

“SOLID & UNSHAKABLE…God is our refuge and strength,
A very present help in trouble.

Therefore we will not fear,
Even though the earth be removed,
And though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;Psalms 46:1-2. Forever stronger,” he added.

CCC Namibia Statement On Death Of Dr Magaisa

Citizens Coalition For Change Namibia mourns the death of a gallant constitutional lawyer, Dr. Alex Tawanda Magaisa.

06 June 2022

Citizens Coalition For Change Namibia celebrates the fruitful life of a constitutional law expert and a champion of constitutional democracy in the motherland, Dr. Alex Tawanda Magaisa who passed on during the early hours of Sunday, 05 June , 2022 in the United Kingdom. Our gallant fighter for democracy was born on the 9 th of December 1975, may his dear soul rest in power. As an external district we shall continue to miss his political and constitutional intellect which was instrumental in enlightening change champions and human rights defenders on the political dynamics in Zimbabwe.

Dr. Alex Magaisa was a prominent Zimbabwean lawyer and human rights defender lecturing at the University of Kent Law School in England after acquiring his law degree at the University of Zimbabwe. Between 2012 and 2013 , he was the chief of staff and principal advisor to the late Icon of Social Democracy President Morgan Richard Tsvangirai, then the leader of the Mdc, the country’s gigantic main opposition party. In 2011-12, Dr. Alex Tawanda Magaisa served as a key advisor to Copac, the parliamentary committee that wrote Zimbabwe’s new Constitution, which was approved at the referendum and signed into law in 2013.

Moreover, our deceased champion of constitutional democracy, was the author of a widely acclaimed blog, The Big Saturday Read(BSR) offering in-depth analysis of law and politics in Zimbabwe making it easier for everyone to comprehend complex legal jargon. During his fellowship, Dr. Alex Tawanda Magaisa wrote a handbook on citizens’fundamental rights and freedoms under the new constitution, a project aimed at enhancing a culture of constitutionalism and democratic citizenship in Zimbabwe. His efforts resonated with the idea of putting citizens at the centre of governance.

Furthermore, before the rigged 2018 elections, Dr. Alex Magaisa discussed new political dynamics and what they meant for the future of Zimbabwe. He was always a pro-democracy fighter ready to defend the interests of the citizens. The late constitutional law expert was confident that the newly born baby, Citizens Coalition For Change will gain power from the satanic regime. When the new was formed he said,”The CCC has brought a fresh kind of energy. It is attracting young people and there we are also seeing a huge participation of the diaspora in raising funds to support political activities at home”.

He went on to admit that securing a two-thirds majority is an ambitious goal. “It is a strong party that has the capacity of winning power from the clueless ZANUPF”, he said. This is a testament to his solid contributions to the Yellow Revolution during his life time. May his dear soul rest in power. Citizens Coalition For Change Namibia shall forever remember the late organic and pragmatic fighter for the universal basic human freedoms in Zimbabwe. His insatiable appetite for constitutionalism and constitutionality should be lauded by all progressive citizenry in the motherland as well as the diaspora.

In addition to that, the late diligent revolutionary did not tire inasmuch as the liberation of Zimbabweans was concerned from the time of Dr Morgan Tsvangirai to date with the Change Champion in Chief President Advocate Nelson Chamisa. Through his popular blog, The Big Saturday Read, he played a very pivotal role in educating people about the implications of the Supreme Court judgement which was meant to decimate and annihilate the national democratic project. The BSR played a fundamental role to instill hope in the change champions who were being frustrated by the judicially-sponsored MdcT. The read gave social democracy the much needed hope after Mwonzora’s nefarious plot to sell the people’s project to ZanuPF.

In a nutshell, Citizens Coalition For Change Namibia applauds the deceased, constitutional law expert for standing firm defending the rule of law and constitutionalism. Commenting on the banning of CCC rallies and politically-motivated violence during and after 29 March by-elections, he said, the regional and international communities will,”keep a watchful eye” on what is happening in Zimbabwe over the next year”.

He further reiterated that, ” Zimbabwe needs a legitimate outcome of its electoral processes so that it can restore relations within the community of nations around the world. We encourage all change champions to give solidarity to the bereaved Magaisa family since it is a core value in social democracy. Go well our Constitutional Law Expert, you shall continue to inspire us as we fulfil your dream for a New Great Zimbabwe.
Rest in eternal power Mukoma Alex Tawanda Magaisa

DeMbare Overcome Rivals Caps United

Dynamos claimed the bragging rights in the Harare Derby following their convincing 3-0 victory over CAPS United on Sunday.

The Glamour Boys dominated the pace from the start and threatened the Green Machine goal in the opening minutes. They terrorised from the wing, with young Issa Sadiki being the chief culprit.

On the other end, the hosts sat back and rarely went forward, concentrating their play in the middle of the park. However, they got two free-kicks in glorious positions towards the mid point of the first half, but Rodwell Chinyengetere did little to trouble the keeper.

Makepekepe also wasted another opportunity moments after the half-hour mark following a defensive mistake by Frank Makarati at the back.

Dynamos continued to hold the edge and were finally rewarded on the stroke of halftime when Evans Katema set up a through pass to Sadiki, who outpaced his markers and slotted home to open the scoring.

CAPS tried to make an early comeback in the second half but failed to create any threatening opportunity.

Instead, Dembare struck home on the other end through Ralph Kawondera on minute 53.

The goal sucked the hosts’ energy, and the game tilted to the visitors’ side.

A lengthy stoppage after Taimon Mvula got injured on the hour saw CAPS regrouping and starting to show some intent.

However, the momentum was soon to die when Makarati made it three for Dynamos right on the stroke of full-time. The defender headed home Godknows Murwira’s corner kick to seal the victory.

The result extends CAPS United’s losing run to six matches, while Dynamos pick their first victory in four games.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Benjani Eyes Premier League Title

Ngezi Platinum Stars coach Benjani ‘The Undertaker’ Mwaruwari says his ambition is to win the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League title at some point and hopes the club gives him time to implement his philosophy.

The former Warriors captain took over the reins at Madamburo two months ago, his first job as a head coach.

Speaking on Heart and Soul TV weekly show In Conversation with Trevor, the former Manchester City striker said his target is to ensure the platinum miners win the biggest club prize in Zimbabwe, in future.

“My target is to win the league,” Mwaruwari said.

“I hope and wish they (the club) can give me the time that I need. I came in when they had played nine or 10 games, they were in a good position and I need to keep that.

“In terms of my philosophy, it takes time for the team to understand what I want. I’m so glad these boys are responding well, even though we need to strengthen in some areas.

“But in this business, there is no time. Every game counts, I need to win games, I need to stay up there and to keep the team trying to win the league,” he added.

Despite a glittering football career spanning over two decades, Mwaruwari admits discovering that coaching is much harder than he initially thought.

“When I was trying to get my coaching badge, I leant a lot. I used to think coaching was just based on playing, coming back here and being given a team,” said Mwaruwari.

“But while I was there (in Europe), it was shocking you know. I discovered a lot of things that I did not know,” he added.- Soccer 24 Zimbabwe

Climate Change And Well-being

The new WHO policy brief recommends five important approaches for governments to address the mental health impacts of climate change:

integrate climate considerations with mental health programmes;
integrate mental health support with climate action;
build upon global commitments;
develop community-based approaches to reduce vulnerabilities; and
close the large funding gap that exists for mental health and psychosocial support.

Chinamasa A Liberation Struggle Sellout

Dear Alex Magaisa…Why Now ?

By Advocate Fadzayi Mahere

Dear Alex Magaisa,

Why?

Why now?

What about all the plans we had for the new Great Zimbabwe?

When you didn’t reply my last message, I figured you needed a mental break. We all do. I knew I should have reached out and possibly visited when I was in the UK. I procrastinated. The problem is that we think we have time.

I wish I had known to number our days. I would have called. I’m in a flurry of confusion because you held my hand many times as I, a novice, navigated deep waters. Now you’re gone? You counseled. You listened. You shared. You gave insight. You clapped. You appreciated.

I’m mad and angry – like someone who’s been robbed.

You listened, watched and corrected.

Remember when you told me to speak big and think big? You told me to speak boldly about victory.

You stood up for me many times when I was bullied online and off. In most cases, I didn’t have to ask. That’s who you were. You always stood up for the little guy. You focused on the pain of others and never your own. You always chose principle – even when it was unpopular.

You called it a coup before most. You said no shortcuts – constitution first always. In fact, you helped author the supreme law. That was the enormity of your intellect. What will I read every Saturday morning?

“Read Fadzie. Have you read?”

I am broken, confused and devastated.

They don’t make them like you anymore.

For the first time, I’m upset with you – for failing to observe due process and leaving without notice.

To whom shall I now address my SOS? I’m gutted.

God bless you and may your legacy live way beyond you.

My friend, brother and soldier.

Rest In Peace.

Byo Records Increase In Home Deliveries

By A Correspondent- Bulawayo recorded an increase in home deliveries since January this year, a development which experts say may reverse gains made in reducing maternal and neonatal mortality rates in Zimbabwe.

Reasons behind the risky decision to deliver at home without skilled personnel vary from high prices of ambulance services, maternity fees and poor health seeking behaviour from pregnant teenagers.

Some women have also delivered at home as they could not afford to timely commute to public hospitals where maternity fees were scrapped.

Statistics from council minutes show that since January, a total of 137 babies were delivered at home, before arrival at health institutions.

The same document shows that the number of women who attend the recommended antenatal care visits in clinics and other health institutions remain low which is a cause of concern.

Zimbabwe has more than halved maternal mortality rates in a decade, from 960 per 100 000 live births in 2010 to 462 in 2019, the latest report by Unicef Zimbabwe shows.

A maternal mortality rate is considered a primary and important indicator of a country’s overall health status or quality of life.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) defines maternal death as the death of a woman while pregnant or within 42 days of termination of pregnancy, irrespective of the duration and the site of the pregnancy, from any cause related to or aggravated by the pregnancy or its management, but not from accidental or incidental causes.

The 2021 State of World’s Midwifery report by UNFPA stated that fully resourced midwife-delivery care by 2035 could avert 67 percent of maternal deaths, 64 percent of new born deaths and 65 percent of stillbirths, and save 4,3 million lives annually.

“A significant increase of babies delivered at home was noted during the months of March and April with Luveve Clinic having 17 percent of their deliveries coming as born before arrivals (BBAs). There was a marked decrease in new antenatal Care visits in April 2022 as well,” read the council minutes.

“Of the 362 deliveries recorded from council-run clinics in March, 30 were BBAs and the number went up to 42 in April from the 369 total deliveries.”

In an interview Bulawayo provincial neonatal and child care officer Dr Tawanda Chikotosa said the numbers of home deliveries were worrying.

“These numbers are against our aim as the Ministry of Health to reduce maternal mortality and neonatal mortality and we are worried as this will make us lag behind on our achievements. Our National Development Strategy also speaks to quality healthcare service and if we continue recording these numbers, we may fail to meet the goals,” said Dr Chikotosa.

“Regardless of the ministry’s effort to make a policy that all mothers don’t pay at all institutions maternity fees, some mothers are unable to present to hospitals. This is because of the prevailing high costs related to going to hospitals hence they stay home until they deliver and then walk to the nearest clinic.”

He said the province has also been recording a number of teenagers falling pregnant, girls as young as 14 and the same are never eager to seek medical attention.

“Some of these cases are of very young mothers, in Form 2 and Three who fall pregnant and then decide to shy away from presenting at health facilities. They try to conceal their pregnancies as if they will not be accepted or offered services when they present to any health institution.”

Dr Chikotosa said teenage mothers also have a tendency of absconding antenatal visits which puts them at risk.

“When clients present late or after delivery they put their lives at risk as there are many complications that may happen during pregnancy and post-delivery. We also have to step up our awareness efforts as a ministry to ensure that every woman understands the importance of seeking health care services especially when pregnant so that we save both the lives of women and the babies,” he said.

An official from council who spoke on condition of anonymity said some women claim that they prefer to deliver at home as they cannot afford ambulance services.

“We have a shortage of ambulances and they cost anything from US$10 up to US$65 which is out of reach for most residents despite their condition.”

Armed Robbers Tie Naked Police Officer To A Tree, Drives Off With Car, Valuables

A female police officer based at Birchenough Bridge post on Friday last week lost her Honda Fit, laptop, cellphones and other valuables to armed robbers who begged her for a lift while on her way home.

According to a police memo, Rarepatsi Moyo was on her way home from work when she was stopped by two unknown males who pleaded for transport to Tanganda junction.

Below is the full police memo:

On the 3rd day of June 2022 at around 1900 hours, the complainant left her work place at Birchnough Bridge post proceeding to her homestead at Munyokovere village Chief Mutema Chipinge. She was in police uniform and driving a silver Honda fit reg number AEB 7271 and was alone. Upon arrival at Chipinge turn off, two unknown males in mid 20s stopped her and pleaded to be offered transport to Tanganda as they said were proceeding to Chiredzi and the complainant agreed. As they reached, Tanganda turn off, the two were asked to disembark but requested to be taken to Middle Sabi area where they would board Green Fuel trucks carrying sugarcane to Chisumbanje. When they reached Matembudze business centre where they were to be dropped, one accused got out first and produced an okapi knife. The one who was inside produced a machete from a satchel he was holding. The one with an okapi knife then stabbed the complainant twice on the left shoulder before ordering her to move from the steering wheel and she complied. They ordered her to occupy the back seat while one accused took control of the steering. They undressed the complainant thus removing her riot trousers, skin tight, pant and socks. They used the skin tight to cover the complainant’s head and face after tucking in her socks into her mouth. They then drove due south towards Chiredzi along the Ngundu-Tanganda road and latter stopped in Chipinge Safari area where they tired the complainant to a tree using a rope before driving off leaving the complainant. Headmaster Steals Firewood Money

By A Correspondent- The headmaster of Hartzell High School, Shorwi Kawadza, pocketed more than $2 million for firewood supplies made to the school by a company he owns.

ED Faces Bhora Musango Come 2023

By A Correspondent- ZANU PF activist Sybeth Musengezi has warned that factionalism and disgruntlement are breeding seeds for another bhora musango, that will see ruling party members voting for the opposition in the general elections expected next year.

His utterances come as divisions in the Zanu PF’s Bulawayo province along factional lines have emerged amid reports that some of the women nominated for the party’s women’s league posts have alleged G40 links.

Musengezi, who recently challenged President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s 2017 ascendency to power, accused the Zanu PF leadership of failing to properly run the country, which he said was giving leverage for the party faithful to vote for opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa.

Bhora musango was a clandestine campaign by some Zanu PF leaders in the run-up to the 2008 harmonised elections, which urged the party members to vote against the late Robert Mugabe, despite voting for the party’s parliamentary and local authority candidates.

“Our current leaders have failed to run the country, they have failed the economy. Corruption is rife and generally people are suffering. On top of that, there is a lot of disgruntlement and factionalism in Zanu PF, so bhora musango is inevitable,” Musengezi tweeted.

“If Chamisa plays his cards well, I foresee him winning the hearts of many in 2023, even among those currently in Zanu PF may vote for him.”

While addressing the media last week, Zanu PF party spokesperson Christopher Mutsvangwa admitted that there were growing fissures within the ruling party, but claimed that Mnangagwa had a right to serve for another term as stated in the Constitution.

In Bulawayo, there were reports that some party members were unhappy that people perceived to be part of the G40 cabal had been selected as members of the party’s Bulawayo province women’s league last week.

These include veteran politician Angeline Masuku, Maidei Mpala, Rebecca Manjere and Rose Jerengwa.

Some party members believe that two of the women are from the G40 cabal.

An insider said: “Over the weekend, the province’s women’s league chose representatives to the national league. Some of the women’s league national representatives came out to be G40 members. The plan remains to destroy Zanu PF from within so that we could lose elections through bhora musango. During the by-elections, people in Bulawayo voted for CCC.”

Zanu PF Bulawayo spokesperson Archibold Chiponda said: “Unless you tell me who these so-called people that are complaining are, I do not know where that G40 issue is coming from.”

Political analysts said the possibility of a bhora musango could not be ruled out.

“After the 2017 coup, the ruling party Zanu PF has been struggling with increased internal contradictions within its leaders due to factionalism. We even saw factionalism playing out in internal provincial elections and this may affect the party’s electoral showing in 2023,” political analyst Vivid Gwede said.

Another political analyst Methuseli Moyo said: “Anything is possible considering the reports of factions in Zanu PF. The forthcoming annual gathering will either mend or widen the cracks. If the cracks persist, Mnangagwa must prepare himself for a run-off, or at worst, an outright defeat. He has to marshal his troops very well for 2023. It will not be easy. It promises to be a well-contested election.”

However, political analyst Maxwell Saungweme said people should not read much into the ongoing Zanu PF factional battles.

“Zanu will be Zanu PF. They have gone in the previous three general elections divided and factional battles were going on, but at the end, they are announced the winners. What makes them win is the patronage system they have, and superior organisational level around elections than the opposition, the State institutions they capture, public resources they divert to party business, violence and electoral fraud. So don’t read too much into Zanu PF factionalism.”

Political analyst Rejoice Ngwenya said: “I don’t think Zanu PF factional wars result in a high vote displacement rate. They gain more from a united front than division, so they tend to gravitate towards unity during electoral times. However, we don’t know the gravity of the situation until their congress or primary elections are held. They will certainly lose votes, but not.

CCC Challenges ZRP Over Mbongeni Ncube Murderers

By A Correspondent- The opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) has challenged the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) to arrest ZANU PF members who murdered CCC activist, Mbongeni Ncube in Kwekwe, Midlands this year.

Ncube was stabbed at a CCC rally held in Mbizo two months ago ahead of the March 26 by-elections leading to the arrest of 16 ZANU PF youths.

Speaking at Kwekwe mayor Angeline Kasipo’s victory celebrations, CCC national organiser Amos Chibaya questioned why police were hesitating to bring to book those implicated in acts of violence, murder, and injury of their supporters.

Chibaya claimed police officers in the mining town were afraid of the militia, indicating that some had actually fallen victim to the gangs’ wanton behaviour. He said:

I want to urge our police officers to do their job without fear or favor. You must not be intimated by these youths. Police must act against those who murder people, they must not be allowed to go scot-free.

We do not want violence in this country, we want peace, we cannot have a situation whereby at every rally people are beaten, people are injured, some hospitalised or even lose their lives.

Our police officers must act on the culprits. If our officers are intimated and afraid, where do we turn to when we are beaten. Some police officers were beaten at Mbizo 4.

He also said police must deal with those who are abducting people as the situation cannot continue.

His remarks come as the CCC is demanding the safe return of Moreblessing Ali, its activist, who was allegedly abducted on the 24th of May.

Police said one Pius Jamba took Moreblessing Ali and disappeared with her following a quarrel. Investigations are said to be underway.

Adamant Mangudya Says Zim Dollar Will Not Go Away

Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) Governor, John Mangudya, said that Zimbabweans should accept the partial dollarisation that is in place and stop fantasizing about the full dollarisation of the economy.

Speaking on Friday during discussions at the Chamber of Mines of Zimbabwe annual conference in Victoria Falls, which ends this Saturday, Mangudya said: As Zimbabwe, we are on our own and we cannot go the full dollarisation route.

If you were dreaming of full dollarisation in Zimbabwe, that must stop.
Let us stop speculative attacks on our currency.

People who engage in speculative attacks on our currency are the same as witches.

Mangudya criticised Zimbabweans for their negativity over the challenges facing the country, saying all countries in the world are facing similar problems.

He said people should unite in defending the Zimbabwe dollar as the fight against inflation is not for the RBZ alone. Said Mangudya:

The power of negativity is weighing down positivity. We need to be positive. As long as I live, I am positive.

I thank the Lord for the gift of life. Why are we destroying our economy?

We want to tame inflation, but it is not an RBZ issue alone, it is not a Government issue alone, it is everyone’s task.

Let’s defend our currency, we don’t want the power of inflation to devour us.

Who are these people that are pushing up inflation either at night or in the morning?

We are still looking for them and we have suspended some companies from borrowing from banks because they were engaging in speculative borrowing.

ED Spokesperson Threatens Harare Mayor Over Pomona Deal

Presidential spokesperson George Charamba has threatened Harare mayor Jacob Mafume with arrest for opposing Cabinet’s decision to endorse the US$240 million Pomona waste management deal for the city.

The threat comes after a Harare City Council (HCC) special meeting last week resolved to suspend the deal between Netherlands-based Geogenix BV company and HCC, which will see Geogenix BV pocketing US$22 000 per day for 30 years.

Charamba yesterday told NewsDay:

The government is not taking over the Pomona project, but is merely approving the project. The project owners are the Harare City Council and what the government is simply doing is to approve, and there is a difference between approving and taking over. The council voluntarily took the project to the minister (Local Government) for consideration. The minister cannot disown the minutes that he took to Cabinet.

If this little lawyer whom you call the Mayor of Harare (Jacob Mafume) insists on opposing the Cabinet decision, he must know for sure that we will end up locking him (up) in prison. He will be a suitable candidate for Chikurubi (Maximum Security Prison).

But Mafume, a Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) councillor remained adamant, saying he was unmoved by Charamba’s threats.

How does he run government by threats? What crime have I committed? If it’s a council decision, then we no longer want it. Why does he threaten me all the time? Does he want me to die in Chikurubi? Why does he want to kill me for saying the truth?

The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) has been petitioned to investigate the circumstances leading to the controversial agreement.

Civic society groups and residents’ groups have also questioned the corrupt deal as it is likely to cost taxpayers.

Last week, HCC was handed a US$750 000 bill by Geogenix BV fronted by businessman, Delish Nguwaya, but the local authority refused to foot the bill.

Centre for Natural Resource Governance director Farai Maguwu said the government’s insistence that the project should go on despite that it is mired in corruption proved that some powerful people could be involved.

He pointed out that the fact that Nguwaya, who has also been mentioned in the multi-million dollar Drax saga for the purchase of COVID-19 personal protective equipment, is involved was enough to raise a red flag.

Political analyst Vivid Gwede said the project exposes how central government interferes in the running of councils.

Mnangagwa Associate Receives Death Threats

By- Former Information deputy minister and Zanu PF Goromonzi West MP, Energy Mutodi, has claimed that he received death threats over the few days.

Mutodi said he had increased his security as a result of the threats.

He tweeted Sunday:
I am tightening personal security following direct and indirect threats on my life in recent days.
MPs are public officials who represent the people and speak for the voiceless.
They must never be targeted for what they say or do in or outside Parliament.

He also asked Ncube why Zimbabwe continued to use bond notes when he (Mthuli) has previously stated that “bad money drives out good money” before he became a Cabinet Minister.

Zanu PF Mocks Mwonzora

By-Zanu PF sympathisers have suggested that Mwonzora leases out Harvest House because he now does not have officials to fill it up.

Posting on social media, Zanu PF Patriots said Mwonzora is politically dead.

Posted Zanu PF Patriots:

After recent by-elections, it’s clear Mwonzora is left with assets only and a few supporters. The man is definitely blessed with buildings; he is better off leasing out those offices as MDC is dead and about to be buried.

Admit Failure, President Chamisa Tells Mnangagwa
