Murehwa South Villagers Up In Arms With Zanu PF MP

By A Correspondent- Villagers in Murewa South constituency are up in arms with their legislator, Nyasha Masoka (Zanu-PF), accusing him of diverting fertiliser meant for them to his own use.

They have taken to social media to accuse the newly elected Masoka of only doling out the bags of fertiliser to traditional leaders.

It emerged that more than 55 village heads were given 8 bags each on the pretext that they will use it next season for the Zunde RaMambo programme.

The fertiliser was distributed to the village heads on March 24, two days before the by-elections, a move that was described as vote buying.

Masoka repalced the late Joel Biggie Matiza who succumbed to COVID-19 last year.

The villagers said they expected the fertiliser to benefit communal farmers in Wards 19, 20 and 21.

“There is a consignment of fertiliser that was delivered at Dombwe and we do not know how it was distributed. There was no transparency.  We hear the village heads were given the bags of fertiliser, and the question is why. Are these village heads the only ones who vote for Zanu-PF,” queried a villager.

Masoka yesterday confirmed distributing the fertiliser only to the traditional leaders.

“This was not the presidential input or the command agriculture. It was for Zunde Ramambo, not for the other villagers. If it was meant for the wards it could have been given to the sitting councillors, not a MP,” Masoka said.

On vote-buying allegations, Masoka said: “Chiefs are not the only ones who vote. Voting is done secretly and people decide who they want.”=newsday

Zim Dollar Collapses

By-Economics have predicted the total collapse of the Zimbabwean dollar.

Renowned economic commentators Gift Mugano and Anthony Hawkins said the Government must accept that the market and re-dollarise the economy has rejected the local currency.

This comes as annual inflation rose to 131.7% in May, from 96% in April, according to the Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency (ZimStat).

The local currency has also depreciated against the United States dollar on the official market, falling to US$1:$290 by Tuesday, compared to US$1:$258 the previous week.

Mugano projected that the domestic currency will dead by June this year, adding that the Government itself is rejecting the Zimdollar and has opted for the US dollar. Said Mugano:

We are increasing our debt and we won’t be able to defend our currency. Even the Government does not want to use its own currency.

It paid bonuses in US dollars, it is paying COVID-19 allowances in US dollars, and tollgates are now paid in US dollars.

We are not qualified to fight for the Zimbabwe dollar because the Government itself wants the USD.

In fact, the market has dollarised, we are at a funeral, and we are going to the grave to bury the Zimbabwe dollar.

Mugano said when the country de-dollarised in 2019, after a decade of a multi-currency system, the economy was not ready for the local currency. He said:

The strength of the currency is reflected in its productive capacity. You do not go and support the local currency at a rally and campaign for it, you need production.

The second aspect is you must have fiscal consolidation. You must not have debt because when you have a growing debt then you also have vulnerabilities in the economy when the currency is attacked.

Hawkins argued that dollarisation would be painful but it is the only way to tame runaway inflation. He said:

The public doesn’t want to hold the Zim dollar. Yes, dollarisation would be painful, no doubt. But will it be more painful than an inflation rate of 400%?

The opponents of dollarisation will tell you that this is because saboteurs are destroying the local currency. That is not the case.

People are acting rationally, they are trying to protect their livelihoods, they are trying to protect their pensions, and they are trying to protect their savings from the predatory policies that are being followed at the moment.

The exchange rate is a reflection of what is happening in the economy.

Another economist Persistence Gwanyanya, however, warned against full dollarisation. He said:

Every one of us would want some dollars in his pocket now and every business may want to have the economy dollarised, but it is not the most effective currency option.

Dollarisation is costly. The Justice Smith Commission established that we need to compensate about $5 billion for the loss that occurred in 2009.

Right now we have got about $277 billion in the accounts. When we dollarise we need to first convert all those into US dollars or people will have to lose that.

By-ZimLive editor Mduduzi Mathuthu is living in fear after unidentified five men claiming to be police officers visited his Bulawayo home on Friday around midday.

Mathuthu was not present at the time.

The men, who were reportedly driving in a silver sedan vehicle without number plates, did not show their police badges and declined a request to leave their contacts.
The men instructed those present that Mathuthu should present himself to Detective Sergeant Patrice Nyanhete at Office 12 at the Law and Order section at Bulawayo Central Police Station.
However, when Mathuthu’s lawyer Nqobani Sithole later went to the police station, he was advised that Nyanhete was “off duty.”
Sithole also said Law and Order detectives present said Mathuthu was not a person of interest. Said, Sithole:
I’m now more concerned than I was when I went to the police station. If the people at Mathuthu’s house were not police officers and given that they didn’t want to be identified by driving a vehicle without number plates, then it’s safe to assume that this was going to be an abduction and not an arrest.
When contacted for comment, Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) national spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said, “I don’t have information on that at the moment.”

Police Beat Up Protesting TelOne Students

By- Anti-riot police on Friday disrupted a peaceful protest by disgruntled Telone students.

Armed with button sticks and tear gas, the police violently stormed the students gathered at TelOne Showground premises, intending to petition the school authorities.
They beat up the protest organisers before taking away their cell phones.

The disgruntled students wanted to state-controlled telecommunications regulator to review downwards fees the learners were paying.

The said Telone recently increased the fees astronomically, leaving them vulnerable.

Below were also some of the students’ concerns they wanted TelOne to attend to:

  1. The new tuition fee is unaffordable by almost all the students since many of our parents work here in Zimbabwe and are paid in RTGS less than even 250USD per month

2.Learning conditions at Telone do not meet or match the new tuition fees
i) no wifi or internet connection in classrooms
ii) Poor library without telecommunications resources
iii) Almost 3 quarters of the students are doing online lessons which require an extra fee from students for data
iv) Poor laboratory without standard telecommunications resources
v)Even if you check their circular(sent above) on top it is stating that 01 May 2021 , then again it says 01 May 2022

Police Descends On ZimLive Editor’s Home

A number of police officers in Bulawayo on Friday, 27 May 2022 reportedly visited the home of ZimLive Editor, Mduduzi Mathuthu for as yet unknown reasons.

MISA Zimbabwe immediately deployed lawyer, Nqobani Sithole, to attend to Mathuthu.

Mathuthu was not at home at the time and the police reportedly ordered that he should present himself at the Law and Order Section of the police.Sithole presented himself at the Law and Order Section on Mathuthu’s behalf.

At the time of the writing of this alert, the police were yet to inform him on what charges, if any, they wanted to lay on Mathuthu.

Sithole said the police action was tantamount to abusing Mathuthu’s family.

“We are worried about that,” he said. “At all material times, this guy (Mathuthu) has been available and no charges have ever been laid against him.”

In 2020, Mathuthu’s nephew, Tawanda Muchehiwa, was allegedly abducted and tortured.

At that time his whereabouts had been unknown following his arrest which prompted an urgent habeas corpus application by his lawyer, Sithole.

Following the court application, High Court judge Justice Makonese ordered the police to investigate his whereabouts.

Muchehiwa was only found after being dropped off at his place of residence. His other relatives were also arrested at the time.

This came after police officers had on 30 July 2020 raided and ransacked Mathuthu’s home reportedly looking for information on subversive materials linked to the 31 July 2020 protests.

Chinhoyi Journalist’s Son Murdered

The Chinhoyi community Friday morning woke up to shocking news of the death of prominent journalist’s son,  Arthur Jena whose  bloodied body was discovered at Christos Shopping Centre.

Arthur is son to prominent Voice of America’s Studio 7 journalist, Nunurai Jena  who also writes for NewsDay and Standard newspapers.

Jena confirmed his son’s death to a local online media, although he was not in a position to give further details.

Tonderai Ndiraya Bounces Back

Dynamos head coach Tonderai Ndiraya has been reinstated to his job following his controversial suspension which was received with a wide condemnation last week from the broader football world.

The club suspended the former Warriors Assistant coach last week but did not disclose his offence.

The action was received with speculation by a cross-section of the football world amid claims the football gaffer had fallen out of favour with some members of the Dynamos executive.

In a statement Friday, club spokesperson Tinashe Farawo placed more ambiguity to the reasons behind Ndiraya’s suspension although denying the truthfulness of the speculation that followed the popular coach’s suspension.

“In line with principles of natural justice, the Coach appeared before a disciplinary committee on Thursday 26 May 2022 to answer to allegations bordering around noncompliance with work standards, agreed practices, procedures and agreements.

“Dead Woman” Returns Home

By- A Marondera family was left in shock and disbelief on Monday when a relative they believed to have been killed by a notorious serial killer and rapist, Bright Zhantali, returned home.

The Chin’anga family of Dowa Village, under Chief Kadzunge, buried the body of a woman they believed to be their relative, Majory Chin’anga two months ago.

Majory disappeared about the same time the body of a woman was found in a dam in Marondera without private parts and breasts during Zhantali’s reign of terror.

Zhantali is linked to more than 20 cases of rape and murder and his trial is pending before the courts of law.

Meanwhile, Majory returned home on Monday from Chitungwiza and her arrival shocked her relatives and pirate taxi drivers, who had mourned “her” death.

Chin’anga family spokesperson Enesi Nyika (45), told H-Metro that body viewing was shelved during burial because the body was in an advanced state of decomposition. Said Nyika:

We are living in fear after burying a stranger. Majory has not been coming home for some time and even contacting any of our relatives.

When we received reports of a murdered woman in Marondera, we attended the scene and mistakenly identified the body.

It was in a decomposing state and no body viewing was conducted and no post-mortem was carried out.

Paakadzoka takavhunduka vamwe vakati chipoko tikatya kumukwazisa (when she returned, we were shocked and some said it was a ghost and we couldn’t greet her).

We are sorry for burying a stranger’s body and we are now in fear after this mishap. Majory is alive and well.

We informed the police about this and the chief is expected to learn about this today (yesterday).

A local self-styled prophet, Madzibaba Bhaineji, reportedly certified the body as Majory’s.

One of the villagers said Madzibaba Bhaineji should be held to account, not only for misleading the family into burying a stranger but also for alleging that a relative had bewitched Majory resulting in her “death”.

DeMbare Lift Ndiraya Suspension

In line with principles of natural justice, the Coach appeared before a disciplinary committee on Thursday 26 May 2022, to answer to allegations bordering on noncompliance with work standards, agreed on practices, procedures and agreements.

Resultantly, the facts surrounding the alleged misconduct were established and the Club has taken a prompt, fair and firm corrective action against the Coach.

In the premises, the Head Coach’s suspension from work has been lifted and as such he resumes his full duties with immediate effect.

Further, the Club refutes and distances itself from a plethora of false allegations levelled against our Head Coach which have been circulating in the public domain attacking his moral probity and rectitude.

Meanwhile, its shoulders to the wheel for all the players, technical team and club management as we focus on achieving our set targets for the 2022 season. Even the darkest night will end, and the sun will rise.

Mthuli Ncube Speaks On Economic Crisis

Zimbabwe is taking steps to tackle an inflation rate that’s jumped to 132% after its currency slumped, Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube said.

“We are instituting measures that every other country in the world is instituting,” Ncube said in an interview with Bloomberg Television’s Manus Cranny and Yousef Gamal El-Din from Davos on Thursday. “We are not in panic mode.”

Ncube attributed the surge in inflation, which is above 100% for the first time in 10 months, to rising prices of imported food, fuel and fertilizer and said the stronger dollar had affected the domestic currency. In 2008, a bout of hyperinflation led to the scrapping of the Zimbabwe dollar, which was only reintroduced in 2019. Inflation exceeded 800% in 2020.

The government this month temporarily banned all bank lending and introduced an interbank currency rate in a bid to stem a decline in the Zimbabwe dollar, which weakened to more than 400 to the greenback on the black market. That compares with the official rate of about 258. As recently as February 2019, a precursor to the Zimbabwe dollar was pegged at parity with the US currency.

“It was a necessary move to prick the speculative bubble,” Ncube said in a separate interview. “The parallel rate has taken a pause.”

The government is working with the African Development Bank and the World Bank to pay arrears on external debt. The state’s inability to make repayments has largely locked the nation out of global capital markets.

Zimbabwe’s sovereign debt currently stands at $19 billion, the state-owned Herald reported on Thursday.

“We have got a strategy working with AfDB and World Bank to clear the arrears,” he said. That could involve working through a staff-monitored program to get a sponsor for bridging finance, appealing for debt forgiveness or finding the resources to repay the debt.

Zimbabwe has borrowed some money by using its gold and platinum resources to serve as security, Ncube said in the television interview. He declined to say who had loaned the country money.

In Conversation with Leonard Dembo and Aurel Kolnai’s Pic of Forgiveness

the case of Dembo’s Kangamwiro Song

By Tinashe Gumbo

Dembo in the Class of World Philosophers.

For me, Leonard Musorowenyoka Dembo (1959-1996) and Aurel Thomas Kolnai (1900-1973) are part of a group of great world philosophers who have done a lot in amplifying discussions on the concept of _forgiveness_

the late Leonard Dembo

I always argue that part of Dembo’s outstanding contribution to philosophy is his conceptualization of forgiveness. On his part, Kolnai’s viewpoint of forgiveness has continued to shape the discussion on the subject.

Therefore, the two philosophers under review, need to talk to each other for the for the sake of millions of their students. These philosophers produced a lot of work in their life time, but in this article, focus is on Dembo’s song, _Kangamwiro_ and Kolnai’s 1973-4 paper entitled “ _Forgiveness_ ”.

_Contextual_ _Issues_

Dembo and Kolnai produced their work for different audiences using different methodologies. Dembo used music as the medium of communication while Kolnai was academically rooted. Their political, social, economic and cultural contexts were different, their aims were equally different and indeed, their generations were not the same. However, what they produced has remained socially and academically influential, years after they left.

Dembo was a Zimbabwean musician who focused on a number of themes including but not limited to poverty; forgiveness; love as well as social-economic and political justice among others. He was married to Eunice and they were blessed with three children, Morgen, Law Tendai and Fenistia Linah. Dembo passed on in 1996 when the song _(Kangamwiro)_ under review had already been released.

Dembo is generally believed to have been a deep religious man as can be noted in Kangamwiro where he talks to Yahweh (God) and to his Ancestors. Most importantly for this article, is the fact that towards the end of his life, Dembo seemed to have mainstreamed the theme of forgiveness more than before. As his student, I have personally continued to review his work on this theme and others.

On the other hand, Kolnai was a 20th century philosopher and political theorist, born in Budapest, Hungary to Jewish parents, but moved to Vienna. Academically, Kolnai was attracted to the phenomenological thoughts of Edmund Husserl. He was Catholic but he discounted some of the practices in that religion. Kolnai did a lot of work on various topics including forgiveness.

However, Konail’s work under review was only compiled and published by his wife Elisabeth after his death in 1973. He taught at a number of European schools including Bedford College at London University.

_The_ _Beginning_ _of_ _a_ _Series_ _of_ _Discussions_

While I acknowledge one’s strong subjectivity when it comes to Dembo philosophy, I commit to be as objective as possible as I embark on a journey to ensure that my beloved musician speaks to other great philosophers on the subject matter of forgiveness. In this article, one focuses on Dembo’s song, _Kangamwiro_ and his counterpart is Kolnai. In the upcoming articles (later next month), one will focus on other philosophers as they relate to Dembo’s songs particularly _Mutadzi_ _Ngaaregererwe_ and _Ndirimudiki_ .

My specific agenda is to try and understand Dembo’s thinking on forgiveness against other scholars’ perspectives. As a student of Dembo’s work, I always feel obliged to contribute to the amplification but also simplification of his deep message for the benefit of his fans especially in the context of varied interpretations of his key thematic areas of forgiveness, poverty and love.

_Of_ _Kangamwiro_

The song is part of the album _Shiri_ _Yakangwara_ which was released in 1995 by the Barura Express led by Dembo and has remained a popular album in and outside Zimbabwe to this day. The album carries five excellent songs, _Yave_ ; _Wakandigona_ ; _Shiri_ _Yakangwara_ (title track); _Dzinde_ _Rerudo_ and _Kangamwiro_ (the subject of the current article).

Personally, I got in strong love with all the tracks with _Wakandigona_ emerging as my number one from this project. The album was released when I was pursuing my Form Four education at Guruva Secondary School in Mberengwa West. I need not repeat my story which is associated with the album, my friend Runesu Mugoberi and our Ordinary Level Examinations, as I have already shared that in my earlier article entitled “ _Unpacking_ _Leonard_ _Dembo’s_ _Philosophy_ : _The_ _Case_ _of_ _Shiri_ _Yakangwara_ _Album_ ” published in 2021.

_A_ _few_ _Lines_ _from_ _Kangamwiro_

Generally, in _Kangamwiro_ , Dembo reiterates the message he had pushed out in _Mutadzi_ _Ngaaregererwe_ , off the _Tinokumbira_ _Kurarama_ album. I once argued that in _Kangamwiro_ and _Mutadzi_ _Ngaaregererwe_ , Dembo is now seeking life after death through the two songs. His earthly life is almost over hence he needs to prepare for that other life as promised in our holy Scriptures. However, for Dembo, he also requires the services of his Ancestors to reach to our Lord.

“Zvinhu zvese zvinondinetsa pano panyika, ndinoteura kwamuri Mwari Baba mundinunurirewo. Nhamo yose yandinoona pano panyika iyi, ndinochema kwamuri Vadzimu vangu mundinunurirewoo…. Vakawanda vavengi vangu pano panyika iyi, ndinoteura kwamuri Vadzimu vangu muvaregererewoo…ndinoteura kwamuri Mwari Baba muvaregererewoo. Pamutongo Wangu Baba, ndiiseiwo pamwe navo vosee…Pamutongo wohuipi hwangu, ndiiseiwo divi rimwe navo vosee. Kangamwiro yenyu Baba, ndizadzisireiwo pamwe navo vosee……..”.

Dembo is praying to God and to his Ancestors for forgiveness (of himself but also of his “enemies”). He starts by showing that there are a lot of challenges he is facing at the time, but he quickly links them to his “sinfulness” (he talks of “huipi hwangu” which resonates well with the concept of sinfulness) hence the need for forgiveness from the Lord but also from the Ancestors.

While Dembo mentions poverty by name, he still does not give details to the “many things that trouble him”. What is clear is that Dembo values the role of both God and the Ancestors in his life. He offloads all his sins, challenges and poverty onto God and the Ancestors.

My particular interest is on where he wants his “enemies” and “himself” forgiven. Dembo highlights the existence of many enemies in his life. However, he quickly prays for them to be forgiven by God and the Ancestors. He even requests for God and the Ancestors to put him on the same side with his enemies when he finally faces his judgement. Thus, _Kangamwiro_ pushes the message of forgiveness on the part of Dembo himself but also of his enemies.

The key words and phrases from this song are: “kangamwiro; vavengi vangu; huipi hwangu; pamutongo; muvaregererewoo; mundiregerewoo; ndinoteura; nhamo yose; zvakawanda zvinondinetsa; Mwari baba; Vadzimu vangu; and ndiiseiwo pamwe navo. I have tried to summarize all these into the message of “forgiveness”.

_But_ _What_ _is_ _Forgiveness_ _?_

While there seems to be a number of definitions given by different scholars on forgiveness, it is generally agreed that “to forgive is to respond in a particular way to someone who has treated someone badly or wrongly” (Hughes and Warmke, 2022). On their part, psychologists generally define it as a conscious, deliberate decision to release feelings of resentment or vengeance towards a person or group who has(ve) harmed one, regardless of whether they actually deserve one’s forgiveness.

Witvliet (2002:n.p) indicates that scholars generally agree with Enright and Coyle’s (1998) position that forgiveness is different from a number of things it is often associated with: “pardoning (which is, strictly speaking, a legal concept); condoning (which involves justifying the offense); excusing (which implies that a transgression was committed because of extenuating circumstances); forgetting (which implies that the memory of a transgression has decayed or slipped out of conscious awareness); and denial (which implies an unwillingness or inability to perceive the harmful injuries that one has incurred). Most scholars also agree that forgiveness is distinct from reconciliation-a term that implies the restoration of a fractured relationship (Freedman, 1998)”.

Biblically, the concept of Divine Forgiveness reveals the view of a compassionate Deity who responds accordingly to human contrition and moral rehabilitation.

In Christian circles, forgiveness is also associated with love. “To be a Christian means to forgive the inexcusable because God has forgiven the inexcusable in you”, argues Lewis (n.d). Others regard forgiveness as the final form of love. There are many Biblical texts that can be cited on forgiveness (and love) including but not limited to Colossians 3:13; 1 Peter 4:8; 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 and many more. What is common in many of these verses is the argument that forgiveness is not something that one can say with his or her mouth as it should be something that is done with heart.

Yet, in life, inevitably and unfortunately, people are often mistreated by others, thus, forgiveness concerns one kind of response to those who wrong us. Forgiveness has typically been regarded as a personal response to having been injured or wronged, or as a condition one seeks or hopes is bestowed upon one for having wronged someone else (Hughes and Warmke, 2022). Let me indicate that there are a lot of philosophical issues that are associated with the concept of forgiveness, however, for this article I try to zero in on the specific work of Kolnai and Dembo.

_Kolnai’s_ _Paradox_ _of_ _Forgiveness_

Kolnai’s “bold and blunt” (Adams, 1991) aim was to reclaim the topic of forgiveness for ethics by disentangling it from its context in the Christian religion. Methodologically, Kolnai sought to provide what he termed “‘rigorous’ logical analysis”. He aimed at creating a paradox that forgiveness is logically not possible unless understood from an ethical stand point.

It is interesting to note that Kolnai’ paper “ _Forgiveness_ ” (1973-4) does not attempt to define this concept (Adams, 1991). Kolnai simply delimits the concept by characterizing it through what he called conditions for forgiveness. Below I cite Kolnai’s conditions directly as in Adams (I have however rearranged them for my purpose):

(i) Forgiveness primordially refers to a context of interpersonal relationships, in the narrow sense of relations between two parties on an equal footing. The intention by Kolnai is to contrast with theological, political, or judicial contexts, in which one person has authority and jurisdiction over another.

(ii) Forgiveness presupposes an affront, injury, trespass, or offense committed by one person against another.

(iii) Forgiveness “digs deep into its object” in the sense that (a) the offense is recognized as such and imputed to the offender, and (b) the recognition and imputation of the offense is at first accompanied by indignation and a retributive attitude.

(iv) One can forgive only offenses against oneself, but not the wrongs done to others.

(v) Forgiveness involves an “explicit,” “intentional,” “conscious decisional” act, not just a “fading out” of emotional, cognitive, or attitudinal states about the offensive incidents.

(vi) In particular, forgiveness involves (a) giving up or “nullifying” the retributive attitude (b) without revising the judgment whereby one imputes the offense.

(vii) Finally, Kolnai is inclined to see reconciliation as a possible result based on, but not the essence of forgiveness.

_Kolnai_ _on_ _Condonation_ _Vs_ _Forgiveness_ ( _Directly_ _cited_ _from_ _Adams_ _with_ _some_ _minor_ _paraphrasing_ )

Clearly, all the above conditions given by Kolnai are meant to differentiate forgiveness from a number of responses that can manifest to cases of wrongdoing. His main aim is to expose the differences between forgiveness and what he terms condonation. In a case of (let A be the offender and B the offended party) B condones A’s offense when:

(viii) B is clearly aware of A’s offense,
(ix) B per se disapproves of such offense, but
(x) B deliberately refrains from any retributive response to A’s action.

*NB* : Where forgiveness presupposes and then nullifies “the original retributive position” condonation “acquiesces in the offense,” whether out of tolerance for weakness or prudence.

_Kangamwiro_ _Vs_ _Kolnai’s_ _Forgiveness_

The work of Dembo and Kolnai can be viewed from various angles depending on one’s agenda. For this piece, focus is on the two philosophers’ views regarding forgiveness as it relates to issues of ethics; religion; moral responsibility; relationships (reconciliation) as well as emotions. The sections below summarize the interaction of Dembo and Kolnai.

_Ethics_ _or_ _Religion_ _or_ _Moral_ _Responsibility_

While Kolnai views forgiveness exercised within the context of religion as logically impossible, Dembo sees no problem in praying to his deities (God and Ancestors), an act which automatically brings the religion into the equation.

Ethical considerations are not manifesting visibly in anyway in Dembo’s story. However, as noted by Adams (1991), Kolnai fails dismally to reclaim forgiveness from religion to ethics. At most according to Adams, Kolnai managed to move forgiveness from religion (Christianity) to another “religion” (Morality).

The issue of morality, seems to be silent in _Kangamwiro_ . Maybe Dembo implied it in his line “Pamutongo wohuipi hwangu…” where probably he could have acted in an unacceptable, at most, immoral manner in the eyes of God.

As for Kolnai, moral responsibility lies with both the offender and the forgiver. He is comfortable with a situation where the offender should actually “earn” forgiveness through his or her exercise of moral responsibility. Yet, forgiveness itself according to Kolnai, is a “conscious decisional” act for which the victim must render moral account (cited in Adams, 1991:282).

In the case of Dembo, he shows moral responsibility by reaching out to the “victim” of his actions, God and his Ancestors. However, this is not visible when it comes to the moral responsibility of his “enemies”. It is not shown in the song whether indeed, they earned this forgiveness or it is Dembo himself who is forcing it onto them.

_Forgiveness_ _as_ _a_ _Virtue_

Another key question emerging from Dembo and Kolnai’s work is the issue of forgiveness and ethics particularly when the former has been regarded as a virtue by some scholars. Within Western traditions, forgiveness has often been regarded as a “high” and “difficult” virtue (Scarre 2004, cited in Hughes and Warmke, 2022), and its opposite, unwillingness to forgive, as a vice.

Indeed, Kolnai’s agenda is to pluck forgiveness from religion and transplant it onto ethics, although Adams (1991) argues that this was a dismal failure. Dembo did not expose his agenda in _Kangamwiro_ but, the way he emotionally cries to God and his Ancestors, is an indication that he strongly believed in forgiveness as a virtue. He feels compelled to ask his deities to forgive his enemies but also himself.

However, Dembo may have involuntarily felt that it is a vice not to forgive hence in that case, he pushes the idea of forgiveness as a virtue.

_Forgiveness_ _and_ _Relationships_ _(Reconciliation)_

When we are wronged, this typically damages our relationship with the wrongdoer. Minor offenses might put strains on relationships that put burdens on both persons involved; serious offenses might lead the victim to terminate the relationship altogether (Hughes and Warmke, 2022). It is generally agreed that even if reconciliation is neither necessary nor sufficient for forgiveness, it can still be recognized that reconciliation is, as Robert Roberts (1995) puts it, the “teleology of forgiveness” (Hughes and Warmke).

All things being equal, reconciliation is the goal to which forgiveness points. Thus, forgiveness is oriented towards promoting pro-sociality and friendly relations even though reality may make it difficult to achieve that (McCullough 2008: 114, 116, cited in Hughes and Warmke, 2022).

Condition one of Kolnai specifies forgiveness as a move in the context of an interpersonal relationship. However, Kolnai’s position is not clear particularly with regards to the kind of change expected after forgiveness. Of course, he says that reconciliation is a possible outcome of forgiveness, but not its essence.

On relationship, Kolnai also emphasizes the issue of equality between the parties involved. He is obviously trying to discount a situation where theologically, politically or judicially, one is superior to the other hence determining when to or not to forgive.

Dembo talks of his “enemies” who should be forgiven, which clearly shows that relations have been disturbed here but can still be adjusted. It is not however clear, if at all Dembo’s relationships with his so-called enemies were on an equal basis.

With regards to Dembo’s relationship with God and his Ancestors, clearly there is recognition through “mundinunurirewo” that there is no equality. There is a deity who has some extra powers to “rescue” Dembo from his plight. Similarly, the same deity has authority to forgive Dembo’s “enemies”. This is what Kolnai attempts at discounting in his argument.

On the same issue of reconciliation, Dembo seems to be preparing for his reconnection with God and his Ancestors, most probably after death when he faces his judgment. In this case, _Kangamwiro_ becomes a strong prophetic song by Dembo. With regards to reconciliation with his “enemies”, this was left hanging and as his students, we continue to guess as to what he thought.

_Who_ _were_ _Dembo’s_ _“_ _enemies_ _”_ _after_ _all_ _?_

I have always asked myself “who were these enemies of Dembo? Were they imaginary or real?” My guess is that these could have been real enemies who wronged Dembo but he chose to be diplomatic about it as he wanted to keep that much valued relationship by keeping them secret.

However, my other possible explanation is that as he was crying over “Nhamo yose yandinoona pano panyika iyi…” these could be anyone who has contributed to his poverty. In this case, Dembo maybe representing all those citizens who are suffering because of the action by some people who have control over resources.

Thirdly, Dembo could have believed that all the “troubles”, possibly including illness in his life and that of others was a result of some human action. This is a common belief in African traditions that any misfortune is caused by some people who may be jealousy of one’s progress in life.

Please note, these are my own subjective opinions, these “enemies” could be something else outside the suggested ones. Therefore one leaves to all concerned students of Dembo to attempt.

_Forgiveness_ _and_ _Emotions_

In his conceptualization of forgiveness, Kolnai does not seem to mainstream emotions. This is surprising as he had initially mentioned indignation and a retributive attitude in his condition three as appropriate first responses to wrongdoing.

As for Dembo, throughout the song, it is not clear at all how he had been injured by his enemies. Nevertheless, his tone shows some emotions running through his blood. Maybe, Dembo had been injured by poverty, which he directly cites as “Nhamo yose yandinoona pano panyika iyi, ndinochema kwamuri….”. What is clear though is that Dembo is more emotional, at least in practice and not in conceptualisation than Kolnai in this matter.

_In_ _Conclusion_

One can conclude that forgiveness is a concept that is open to various interpretations. It has been noted that there are many points in which Dembo and Kolnai did not converge. These include how they view the issue of relationships regarding forgiveness; matters of the involvement of a deity; possibility of forgiveness within religion or ethics and others. However, they seem to agree that forgiveness is a necessary phenomenon in life and that real life means existence of offenders and victims. Dembo is clear though, that one needs to seek for forgiveness to one’s enemies from a particular deity who can be God or Ancestors. This is not acceptable for Kolnai. Both philosophers left their audience hanging regarding the issue of reconciliation. They did not pursue it to its logical conclusion. However, their contribution to the subject of forgiveness is huge.

Mwonzora Cornered With Own Councillors

The MDC T renegade leader Douglas Mwonzora, pushed into a corner over his councillors’ participation in authorising the controversial Pomona dumpsite deal .

The development comes as names of the Harare City councillors involved in the controversial Pomona waste management deal which will see residents forking out US$22 000 per day have been revealed.

https://youtu.be/6oeWfblzGlg

The controversial deal between Netherlands-based Geogenix BV and Harare City Council (HCC) will run for 30 years, with the company set to pocket over US$240 million.

The deal has caused a public outcry with the Zimbabwe Human Rights Association yesterday also petitioning the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission to probe the agreement.

NewsDay Weekender yesterday obtained minutes revealing the names of the councillors and HCC officials as well as government officials who gave the deal the nod at a council meeting on February 28 this year.

Councillors Tracy Chagaresango (ward 3), Eugenia Chipfiwa (ward 2), Loveness Gomba (ward 36), Mercy Kasvosve (ward 20), Tendai Katsaria (ward 1) and Joseph Kunashe (ward 33) attended the meeting.

Others were Theresa Manase (ward 22), Patson Tafadzwa Mangwiro Chikwaka (ward 12), Tendai Matafi (ward 29), Martin Matinyanya (ward 4), Brian Matione (ward 13), Tichaona Mhetu (ward 15), Midia Mudariki (ward 5), Elvis Ruzani (ward 42), Adonia Shoko (ward 44), Stewart Wutawunashe (ward 46) and Clifton Zumba of ward 38.

The councillors all belong to Douglas Mwonzora’s MDC Alliance.

But MDC Alliance director of information Chengetai Guta yesterday claimed the councillors were against the deal, but were overridden by government.

“What the people of Zimbabwe must understand is that there is a usurpation of authority that is supposed to be entitled to office bearers with regards to local government,” Guta said.

“When you look at the Pomona deal, our councillors actually had a resolution and put forward arguments that were disagreeing with the deal but that was not taken heed off.”

But Harare acting town clerk Phakamile Moyo in his opposing affidavit to a High Court application by Harare North legislator Allan Markham seeking a review of the Pomona deal said the councillors agreed with the deal.

“I must state that the applicants are crying more than the bereaved. The councillors who should have been complaining about any inadequacies in the notices given have not complained. In other words, they were happy with the notices given, had enough time to prepare and attend the meeting,” Moyo submitted.

“I submit that there was no deviation from procedure and even if there was the same was not material. The councilors attended the meeting and were able to discharge the business of that meeting.”

Markham has cited the council, Local Government minister July Moyo, Harare deputy mayor Stewart Mutizwa, Harare mayor Jacob Mafume, the acting town clerk and Geogenix BV as respondents. -Additional reporting, Newsday

What You Need To Know About Monkeypox

20 May 2022 Statement Geneva Reading time: 1 min (288 words)

WHO and partners are working to better understand the extent and cause of an outbreak of monkeypox. The virus is endemic in some animal populations in a number of countries, leading to occasional outbreaks among local people and travelers. The recent outbreaks reported across 11 countries so far are atypical, as they are occurring in non-endemic countries.

There are about 80 confirmed cases so far, and 50 pending investigations. More cases are likely to be reported as surveillance expands.

WHO is working with the affected countries and others to expand disease surveillance to find and support people who may be affected, and to provide guidance on how to manage the disease.

We continue to convene meetings of experts and technical advisory groups (such as the meeting today of the Strategic & Technical Advisory Group on Infectious Hazards with Pandemic and Epidemic Potential [STAG-IH]) to share information on the disease and response strategies.

WHO continues to receive updates on the status of ongoing outbreaks in endemic countries.

Monkeypox spreads differently from COVID-19. WHO encourages people to stay informed from reliable sources, such as national health authorities, on the extent of the outbreak in their community (if any), symptoms and prevention.

As monkeypox spreads through close contact, the response should focus on the people affected and their close contacts. People who closely interact with someone who is infectious are at greater risk for infection: this includes health workers, household members and sexual partners.

Stigmatizing groups of people because of a disease is never acceptable. It can be a barrier to ending an outbreak as it may prevent people from seeking care, and lead to undetected spread.

As the situation is evolving, WHO will continue to provide updates we learn more.

Riot Police Block Government Workers’ Protest

By- Armed police Friday directed ordered civil servants to cancel their planned march over poor salaries.

About 16 unions representing civil servants under the Zimbabwe Confederation of Public Sector Trade Unions (ZCPTSU) had planned to hand over a petition to the government over poor salaries today.

On 26 March, the police wrote to the Unions, allowing the march to go ahead, reported NewZimbabwe.com.

But on Friday morning, three police vehicles with armed anti-riot officers were deployed to the Public Service Association (PSA) building at Livingstone Avenue and Third Street, Harare.

The police officers instructed the civil servants’ representatives to defer the march.

Addressing journalists during a press conference, PCPTSU secretary-general, David Dzatsunga, said:

We had intended to hold our march to serve the ministries of Labour and Finance respectively and parliament with petitions over civil servants’ salaries, but the police informed us that the situation in the capital is tense.

The police alleged our procession could end up being hijacked by some other unscrupulous elements, leading to an uncontrollable chaotic situation.

It is for that reason that we had to defer the march to sometime soon.

Certainly in the coming week, we should be able to do that action, which is overdue.

Dzatsunga said they wrote to the Ministry of Public Service and Social Welfare several times requesting an urgent meeting to deliberate on civil servants’ conditions of service. Said Dzatsunga:

We have written to the ministry of Public Service four times now requesting an urgent meeting.

It is common cause that the current economic environment, the hyper-inflationary environment, and the exchange rate madness that is facing us as a nation, are hitting hard on civil servants and all workers in general.

The ministers have not replied to our correspondence to date. Ministers prefer to talk about our grievances through the press without engaging us.

We believe this is not professional, as we write to them officially.

He also criticised the Government for suspending teachers who failed to report for duty last term due to incapacitation.

The Government also deducted the teachers’ salaries and summoned them to appear for disciplinary hearings.

Dzatsunga described the move as victimisation and harassment of civil servants by the Public Service Commission (PSC).

Family Flees Home After “Buried” Woman Returns

He died in Masvingo where he had travelled on official business.
Retired Major-General Chanakira retired from active military service in 2018, joining VP Chiwenga’s Office as a senior staffer.

Top Journalist In Abduction Fears

Tatelicious: Bona Mugabe vs Mai Titi

By Showbiz Reporter | Real issues or catfighting? The Sweden sociallite Tatelicious Karigambe has compared the late President robbert Mugabe’s first child, Bona with compatriot, Mai Titi.

Bona Mugabe and an attendant at the Rihanna brand launch in Harare

Speaking on Friday evening, Tatelicious claimed that Mai Titi is too talkative. She said Mai Titi was dropped from the list of attendants at the US singer Rihanna’s Fenty brand launch in Harare because she is talkative.

A comment from Felistas Murata could not be obtained at the time of writing, and meanwhile Tatelicious said: “Bona Mugabe is very quiet and she is the most loved person because she knows how to control her mouth.

“The days when Felistas was quiet, was the period when people were being chosen for Rihanna’s function.

“Felistas have you forgotten that you are the one who ganged up to go to Minister Mutsvangwa? And now can you see that it is your colleage Madam Boss who has been chosen….

“Even Tinashe, her husband, rebuked her, because he follow a church life.”

Police Disrupt TelOne Students’ Protest

Watford Offload Zimbabwean Star

Watford has announced the release of Jimiel Chikukwa just three months after the Zimbabwean striker rejoined the English Premier League (EPL) side.

The 19-year-old moved back to the Hornets after cutting short his six-month loan spell at Maidstone United in March, where he had limited game time, featuring in one game as a late substitute.

The young striker, who joined Watford Academy in September last year following his release at Leeds United, had been loaned out to allow him to get first-team experience.

He endured a frustrating return at Watford, and the club has decided to release him ahead of next season.

Chikukwa will leave the side with eighteen other players from the club’s U23s squad when their contracts expire in June.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Davos Is The Chance For Zimbabwe To Grow Economically Strong -Mavaza

By Dr Masimba Mavaza | Zimbabwe has taken the World Economic as a bridge to the international market. This a forum where the world is divide by the war in Ukraine. Africa countries should proactive and stop getting involved in the wars being fought but benefit from those wars.

Zimbabwe is to use this Forum to take its position in the global economy and rise with those rising.

Zimbabwe will tap in its diaspora to grow its economy. During this Forum the President will address Zimbabweans in diaspora and will encourage them to set up a team of Experts and investors who wants to venture into massive farming drive, engineering business and several fields. Zimbabwe should take a lead exporting food to countries fighting wars.

Currently Europe is already plunging in Economic depression and food prices are going mad and Africa should step in and make money.

Now that Europe is experiencing war in its front gate Africa must increase food production. We must change our priorities and encourage people to venture into farming and mining to meet the demand. We must establish an African platform to assist and encourage African products.

Zimbabwe must grab this opportunity to become a giant. The country has a capacity to become a world giant in food production and mineral products market. Zimbabwe must influence Africa to create the single African Union currency backed by gold and diamonds to trade with those fighting.

Zimbabwe must encourage its diaspora to study, the economies of the countries in Europe and see where we can make a reasonable trade pact.

This forum has given Zimbabwe a chance especially with it’s good climate and environment to become a great economy and the largest supplier of several products. The president will encourage diaspora to engage in engineering and revamp our dams our rivers and our roads.

Zimbabwe stands to benefit more in this Forum. The World Bank estimates that by 2035, real income gains from full implementation of the agreement could be 7%, or nearly $450bn. By 2035, the volume of total exports would increase by almost 29% relative to business as usual. Intra-continental exports would increase by more than 81%, while exports to non-African countries would rise by 19%.The Bank predicts that the agreement could contribute to lifting an additional 30m people from extreme poverty and 68m people from moderate poverty. Yet the impact across countries will not be uniform. The World Bank says that at the very high end, countries like Côte d’Ivoire and Zimbabwe could see income gains of 14% each. At the low end, some – such as Madagascar, Malawi, and Mozambique – would see real income gains of only around 2%.

Zimbabwe need the AfCFTA for Trade integration across the African continent and escape the outdated border and transport infrastructure and a patchwork of differing regulations across dozens of markets. Nations have often erected trade barriers to defend their markets from regional competition, making it more expensive for countries to trade with near neighbours than countries much further afield. The world being a global village no country can survive on its own. To this end Zimbabwe has taken the drive to be first in the global lines.
Negativism’s fuelled by the opposition will not stop Zimbabwean success in all this. Together with the AfCFTA Zimbabwe will succeed.
We must know that AfCFTA gives Africa a chance to speak with one voice in trade negotiations.
Europe has 13 types of trade arrangements with Africa, each of which it defends firmly, but some of our people lack the simple understanding that the country needs support of others.
“Europe needs to understand the direction Africa is going in with the setting up of the AfCFTA… We Africans must be more united to defend our own interests, and Zimbabwe must not be left out.
AfCFTA is an African project that will require African commitment to succeed. It must proceed regardless of what happens elsewhere. We can expect external actors to continue to pursue policies that run counter to Africa’s objectives as long as such policies benefit them. Even as we have made clear our intent to move trade along a multilateral track, Africa’s largest partners may seek to pursue a bilateral one.
As for the opposition spinning of the true benefit of this Forum and Zimbabwe’s involvement in Davos and Despite the rhetoric of Africa’s external partners, the continent’s prosperity has never been the true objective of their policies and we cannot expect that to change now.”
Zimbabwe is open for business.

Adulterous Harare Man Fined ZW$100k

Byy A Correspondent- An adulterous Harare man has been ordered to pay ZW$100 000 adultery damages following a successful lawsuit by the husband of a woman he snatched away.

Dambudzo Oliver Munyebvu was ordered to pay the damages by High Court judge Justice Justice Amy Tsanga after he was sued by Talent Musvibe.

Musvibe had mounted the lawsuit stating that he wants to use the money to divorce his wife.

The case has had twist and turns after it emerged that Munyebvu’s first encounter with Musvibe’s was forced but the abuse later developed into an adulterous affair.

The rape case was never reported and although it confirmed by the lower court, the abuse was not entertained because it was not before the courts.

Musvibe had claimed ZW$150 000 in a claim he filed at the Magistrates court and an order was granted in his favour.

However, Munyebvu appealed at the High Court claiming that the couple fabricated a case against him in a bid to extort money.

Tsanga however dismissed the assertion saying no report was made to the police to this effect.

The aggrieved Musvibe submitted that he sought an award of ZW$150 000 as he wanted to use that money to institute divorce proceedings.

He also accused the court of erring by finding the evidence of his wife that she was raped to be credible.

Musvibe said she never disclosed the alleged rape to him at any time or report the matter to the police.

Justice Tsanga vindicated the woman as a credible witness given the sensitive nature of rape and what the victims go through.

“The failure to report does not mean that a witness is not credible since there are many reasons why rape victims do not report such as fear of losing the marriage,” read the Judgement.

However, she dismissed Musvibe’s wife’s witness statement before the court as lacking merit.

“The court below found on a scale of probabilities that the respondent’s (Musvibe) version was more credible and that the respondent’s wife’s explanation as to how the relationship started was lucid.

“According to the court, her statement that the first sexual encounter with the appellant was rape did not affect her credibility.

“The magistrate found the issue to be beside the point as the real issue before the court was whether or not adultery had subsequently occurred,” ruled Justice Tsanga.

“The claim for adultery damages falls under two main heads, namely loss of consortium (right each spouse has to the companionship) which could include loss of love, companionship, sexual privileges and assistance in good and bad times which a spouse is entitled to expect and consequent mental distress.

“The second head for claiming is contumelia (injury, hurt, insult and indignity that occurs to an innocent spouse) encompassing the infringement of privacy, dignity and reputation.

“The main element under which damages are awarded is loss of consortium which in this case there had been found to be no loss of consortium,” said the judge.

Tsanga said the loss is regarded as less where the respondent has condoned the adultery and the marriage still subsists.

In this regard she slashed the claimed amount.

Mom Seeks Protection Order Against Own Son

HONOUR your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you”.

This Biblical advice seems to have no meaning for a 43-year-old man from Bulawayo, who is in the habit of harassing his mother as punishment for inviting her alleged boyfriend to stay at the family house, three months after the death of his father.

So upset is Edrian Chiweshe that he wanted his mother Chiedza Chiweshe to move out of the family house in Montrose suburb.

Fearing that her son would live true to his threats of rendering her homeless, Edrian’s mother rushed to the Bulawayo Civil Court and sought a protection order against him.

In her application she demanded that her son should stop harassing her and interfering with her personal life.

“I am the applicant in this matter and the respondent is my son.

We stay at the same place.

I am applying for a protection order against him.

He is disturbing my peace.

Whenever he is drunk, he verbally abuses me and threatening me saying I should move out of the house because it belongs to his late father.

“He shouts at me saying I once stayed with a boyfriend at the house which he does not like.

May the honourable court grant me a protection order so that my son stops verbally, emotionally abusing me and threatening me and also not to interfere with my personal life since I am his mother,” she begged.

She said her son wanted her to go and stay with her sister in Mutare.

In response Edrian accused his mother of being insincere saying she moved on a few months after the death of his father.

“I am opposed to her accusations that I shout at her when I am drunk.

She is the one who provokes me and starts shouting at me.

When my father passed away within three months, she had another man whom she started staying with at the house and this is a period in which she was supposed to be mourning.

“I was working in South Africa and when I came back to renew my passport my siblings restrained me from going to the house as they feared that the situation would not go down well with me.

I agree that at times I shout at her but she will be the one who would have started shouting at me,” responded Edrian.

His mother, however, disputed his accusations.

“He is lying and he does not want to work.

Just imagine he is 43 years old and I am the one who is buying him food.

He drinks alcohol from morning and when he is drunk, he starts shouting at me.

What he wants is just to insult me.

I don’t dispute that I had a boyfriend but it’s not true that I started dating him soon after the death of his father and again it’s not true that I was staying with him at the house since he had his own house,” she said.

In her ruling the presiding magistrate Nomasiko Ndlovu ordered Edrian not to verbally and emotionally abuse his mother or threaten her in any way.

Former Mighty Warriors Player Bhamu Dies

Aldigrade Bhamu

By A Correspondent- Former Mighty Warriors and Harare City Queens player Aldigrade Bhamu has died.

Bhamu (34), was admitted at Parirenyatwa Central Hospital on Wednesday and passed away on Thursday evening at the health facility.

Her younger sister Gloria Bhamu told The Herald that she had collapsed at her family home on Monday. Said, Gloria:

She was rushed to Parirenyatwa and they said she had suffered a stroke and her blood pressure was very high. Her condition was bad and Thursday evening she died.

Before she collapsed, Bhamu was said to have been in good health and actually trained with her teammates at Harare City Queens on Thursday last week.

Harare City assistant coach Langton Giwa said the players are in shock following the tragedy. Giwa said:

The players are in shock and everyone is devastated. She trained on Thursday but our weekend match was cancelled so on Friday we did not train and we resumed our training sessions on Tuesday.

It is a sad loss. Bhamu was a hardworking player. She was a cheerful player and her absence will be felt.

Former Mighty Warriors manager Charity Munemo, who worked with Bhamu for many years, said:

It is a sad day for women’s football. I am heartbroken. I worked with Bhamu for many years when she was still playing for the national team.

She was quiet but was always cheerful. She never got herself into trouble during camps. May her dear soul rest in eternal peace.

Bhamu represented the Mighty Warriors at the Africa Women Cup of Nations finals in Cameroon in 2016.

Besides playing for Harare City Queen, she was also a part-time coach for the girls’ team at the BN Academy.

Bhamu was the third born in a family of four. She was still single.

Mourners are gathered at 11919 Kuwadzana Extension.

The burial arrangements will be advised in due course.

Monica Mutsvangwa, Oppah Muchinguri Lock Horns

By A Correspondent- Zanu-PF holds its women’s league provincial conferences tomorrow with Information minister Monica Mutsvangwa set to square off against Defence minister Oppah Muchunguri in the battle for control of Manicaland.

Each province will have district elections before provincial elections later on the day.

In Manicaland, there are eight districts and each is expected to come up with one candidate who will compete in the provincial elections.

Each province is expected to come up with four candidates ahead of the national women’s league conference slated for next month.

While Mutsvangwa is reportedly comfortable in her Zimunya/Marange district, Muchinguri has allegedly fielded “strong” candidates to challenge the Information minister in the provincial elections. Muchinguri, seen as the “Godmother” of the Manicaland province, is eager to protect her turf.

Muchinguri used to tussle with the self-exiled and former outspoken Manicaland Provincial Affairs minister Mandiitawepi Chimene.

“The talk of town at the moment is that our Information minister Mutsvangwa and Muchinguri will be battling to control the powerful women’s organ and the control of Manicaland province,” sources in Mutare said.

“In the race, Mutsvangwa was uncontested in her district Zimunya/Marange, but Muchinguri has fielded some powerful candidates who are going to fight Mutsvangwa in the provincial elections.”

Already there are allegations of intimidation and threats of violence ahead of the elections.

Addressing a Press conference yesterday, Zanu-PF political commissar Mike Bimha said preparations for the weekend provincial conference were progressing well.

“There is peace and everything is okay on the issue of Mutare. We are yet to receive any complaints of intimidation. They have their own commissariat and we don’t want violence in the elections,” Bimha said.

Addressing the same Press conference, Zanu-PF secretary for women affairs Mabel Chinomona said 105 candidates across the country successfully filed their curriculum vitaes to contest in the elections.

Jabulani Sibanda Castigates Tribalism, Discrimination

By A Correspondent- ZANU PF Bulawayo province chairperson Jabulani Sibanda has implored Zimbabweans to eschew tribalism and discrimination.

Sibanda made the call while speaking during the Africa Day celebrations held in Bulawayo on Wednesday.

The celebrations, attended by ZANU PF members and churches, were held under the theme: “The Role of the Church in Consolidating Peace and Development in an Independent Africa.” Sibanda said:

Africa is one of the richest and greatest continents in the world and there is no need for Zimbabweans to discriminate against each other based on their language or tribe as we are all Africans.

We are Africans until we know our positions as Africans. I never see people as Shona, Ndebele or Kalanga; all I see is Africans.

People should stop pointing fingers at each other based on the different languages they speak.

European and American countries were built by Africans; hence, we should be proud and embrace our Africanism as God called us to lead in everything. Let us shun tribalism.

Man Leaves Own Son At Accident Scene

By A Correspondent- A local transporter left his son at the scene of an accident as collateral security as he went to find money to compensate for the damage he had caused.

Evidence Hamamiti rammed into a house in Ushewokunze just after midnight after his vehicle was hit from behind by another speeding motorist who appeared to be drunk.

I saw a car which wanted to overtake me. It was a twin cab, a government vehicle, and the driver of the vehicle did not notice that there was an oncoming kombi.

So, he went on to hit my truck and also the kombi.

The impact forced me off the road, the trouble causer appeared to be drunk as he was helped to stand by a lady, whom he claimed was his wife.

I left my child as assurance I was working out a plan to find money to repair the damaged place.

We contacted the house owner and he said he is yet to assess the damage but there are tenants there.

He said that the owner of the house advised him to fix the damaged part. Added Hamamiti:

However, this morning they called me saying that they want to come over to my place.

Probably, they are bringing my child but at the moment I am running around together with my wife.-HMetro

TelOne Students Embark On Massive Strike

By- Telone students have embarked on a massive strike to force the state-controlled telecommunications regulator to review their fees downwards.

In a notice by students seen by Zimeye.com, the students said the recent fee increase by Telone was astronomical.

The notice said the demo starts at 8 AM at Glow service station, near TelOne

i) no wifi or internet connection in classrooms
ii) Poor library without telecommunications resources
iii) Almost 3 quarters of the students are doing online lessons which require an extra fee from students for data

v)Even if you check their circular(sent above) on top it is stating that 01 May 2021 , then again it says 01 May 2022
last but not least the stamp on their(TCFL) circular is saying 01 May 2021

Chamisa Mobilises Against Pomona Corruption

By-Nelson Chamisa’s Citizens Coalition for Change has said that they are planning to stage a demonstration against the Zanu PF corruption in the Pomona dumpsite tender.

CCC secretary-general Charlton Hwende said they were in the process of organising the demonstration.

CCC posted on Twitter:

The Pomona stinking Deal must be Stopped. Complaining here on Twitter without taking action is not going to stop these thieves from stealing from us. All companies currently paying the $50 per load must stop & we must visit Pomona Dump site as citizens to chase away the looters.

Condom Prices Soar

By- In a shocking development, a pack of condoms is now costing more than a domestic worker’s salary.

Journalist and social rights activist Hopewell Chin’ono said Zanu PF’s corruption caused this.

He posted on Twitter:
This might help you understand Zimbabwe’s economic collapse. The Zimbabwean Government announced through a gazette last week that the official domestic worker wage is ZW$10,000. Now a pack of condoms today is ZW$12,200! This is what ZANUPF incompetence and corruption has done!

POMONA THEFT: Armed Robber Nguwaya Speaks To ZimEye | EXCLUSIVE

The controversial businessman of the Drax covid money scandal, who has a long history of armed robbery,  Delish Nguwaya has denied involvement in the murder of the Zimbabwe Investment Development  Agency Director, Douglas Munetsi, while responding to the ongoing corruption probe over his (Harare City Council) USD400mil Pomona Dump Site Contract.

Nguwaya won the contract without going to tender, and it sailed through for him shortly after the ZIDA Director, Douglas Munatsi was found dead in a suspected bomb attack inside his Harare flat late 2021

Delish Nguwaya

Under the contract the council is obliged to pay Nguwaya, who has a history of armed robbery USD40,000 per day (before VAT), what ever amount of rubbish the council provides, so he can generate electricity for himself.

The contract also says, the council cannot in any way for any reason, alter the terms of the agreement for the next 30 years.

Nguwaya (DN), speaks to Simba Chikanza (SC).

SC: Hello Mkoma Delish.

DN: Yes.

SC: Are you well?

SC: I am sorry for calling you this late. I needed to ask you of the issue council people and MPs are complaining about, on the Pomona deal.

DN: Who is talking? Who is talking?

SC: You are talking with Simba Chikanza at ZimEye mkoma Delish.

DN: Aaah, but you why do you call to ask my things every time?

SC: You’re a public person now, do you not have public contracts now mkoma Delish?

DN: Yes.

SC: So it’s just asking questions, as you know well your name…

DN: Ask.

SC: I just wanted to ask these questions being raised that you are being paid money running into the millions, and they are saying that …

DN: I’m being paid by who?

SC: You’re being paid by the council.

DN: Do you understand what BOOT is?

SC: On that Pomona deal of yours.

DN: I said do you know what BOOT is?

SC: BOOT?

DN: Yes.

SC: I am listening.

DN: Do you know what it means?

SC: You may speak.

DN: Built, Operate, Own And Transfer, isn’t it? The investor is bringing their own money isn’t it, money to build this? Are they wanting anything from government?

SC: So are you saying you don’t want any money from government?

DN: I don’t need any money from government, yes

SC: I mean it from council, isn’t it?

DN: Hello.

SC: I do not mean government, I mean council.

DN: So how does an investor recoup their money after building, can you tell me. You come with your mission and your money so how will you recover your money?
How do you recoup your money?

SC: Did you see their first comment, that, we the landlord, the council….

DN: No, don’t worry about the council people. They are people who are pushing wrong things, who don’t want development. They are being pushed by the opposition. You bring in an investor and within 2 minutes they are taking them to court. Even yourself how do you take that?

SC: Because they are complaining concerning the USD40,000 per day as rental.

DN: There is nothing like that. There’s nothing like that. Let them give you the contract, isn’t it you’re talking to them? Let them give you the contract to give you correct things, not this which is coming from social media by these people.

SC: Then there is this issue that they’re talking about that your deal went through after the death of Doug Munatsi, do you have a conscience ?

DN: Aaaaah, my friend, what you’re talking about I don’t want to hear it, and I don’t have anything to do with that, please don’t ask me these questions with me.

SC: I am only asking mkoma Delish because you know Mr Munatsi didn’t want your deal to go through.

DN: Who told you that?

SC: It’s a public record. That’s a public record.

DN: Aaah, That’s why I don’t want to talk to you that’s why I don’t want to talk to you because after [finishing] to talk to you, because after this you will be going to social media and say this is what I said. Which is wrong.

SC: No. Mkoma Delish I can throw to you the references and you will see not me, not anyone related to me, these are public officials, MPs.

DN: You, don’t ask me that I know nothing about it.

SC: You know, when people are talking it. Yeah?

DROP. CALL AGAIN.

Mkoma Delish, how do you propose to do away with the tag of accusations that you killed or you’re connected to the death, the killing of Doug Munatsi?

DN: Aaaah I will take you to court, what you’re saying.

SC: You will take me to court?

DN: These are serious allegations which you’re raising against me, very serious allegations.

SC: People are talking and people are making those allegations that’s why I am asking; people are making those allegations.

DN: No, this is nonsense. This is nonsense what you’re talking, you hear? Don’t play games with me, and don’t call me again. Okay? Even if you’re in UK….[INAUDIBLE]

President Chamisa Takes Over Rural Areas

CITIZENS Coalition for Change (CCC)’s rural mobilisation drive is reportedly giving Zanu PF sleepless nights, with the ruling party’s provincial co-ordinating committees (PCCs) now tasked to counter the opposition party’s strategy.
Rural areas have traditionally been Zanu PF strongholds, but after a strong showing in the March by-elections, the opposition is seeking to establish a foothold in a bid to turn the scales.

Zanu PF Masvingo provincial chairperson Robson Mavhenyengwa acknowledged that the opposition’s rural mobilisation programme has rattled the ruling party.

“We cannot continue to sit on our laurels anymore. It is time to work hard because CCC is now everywhere. They are campaigning door-to-door in rural areas. They are coming to our strongholds and we cannot leave them to do what they please. We need strategies to counter them,” Mavhenyengwa said in an interview.

Home Affairs minister Kazembe Kazembe, who is also Mashonaland Central provincial chairperson, also held a meeting with Zanu PF structures in Mushumbi Pools, Mbire, where he reportedly fretted over CCC’s inroads into rural areas.

“He encouraged party supporters not to entertain and listen to CCC activists. He encouraged village heads to make sure that people are registered to vote for Zanu PF. He also said people, who are warming up to the opposition, were sell-outs,” a source said.

Kazembe was not available for comment yesterday.

CCC interim secretary for rural mobilisation, Happymore Chidziva told NewsDay that the party’s rural mobilisation exercise, code-named Mugwazo, would be a “game-changer” as the country heads for the 2023 elections.

“We have launched a massive recruitment and mobilisation exercise called Mugwazo. We are meeting ordinary citizens in rural areas. This is a nationwide programme in which we are mobilising people to register to vote and recruiting them to the CCC party,” Chidziva said.

But Zanu PF director for information Tafadzwa Mugwadi played down assertions that the ruling party was fretting over CCC’s rural mobilisation exercise.

“We are not going to lose sleep over what MDC or CCC does. We are the governing party. Our focus is on winning the elections in 2023. Our focus is to fulfil the promises we made to our people. Our focus is to improve the lives of ordinary people in Zimbabwe,” Mugwadi said.

Zanu PF is targeting to woo five million voters, while the CCC speaks of reaching out to six million voters in its on-going voter mobilisation drive to ensure a resounding victory in the 2023 polls. -Newsday

KUDAKWASHE Mahachi has returned to Zimbabwe but has gone into hiding as he is terrified over the possibility of reprisals from people who are convinced that he scalded his four-year-old son with boiling water resulting in him suffering third-degree burns.
Mahachi denies the allegations and has engaged a law firm, Tanaka Law Chambers to clear his name.

He says the minor was harmed after he left his custody.

According to a reliable source, Mahachi has been in Zimbabwe for close to a week now, but does not want people to know of his whereabouts as he is convinced that mob justice could be meted on him.

Zimbabweans, on various social media platforms, made clear their agitation at Mahachi and his wife, Rose Tatenda Mahachi, who they blame for severe burns that have seen the minor admitted to Mpilo Central Hospital for a month now.

Attempts to interview Mahachi were abortive as he was not answering his phone.

He also did not respond to WhatsApp texts.

Mahachi’s lawyer, Nkosiyabo Sibanda of Tanaka Law Chambers, could neither confirm nor deny that his client had returned home.

Mahachi’s lawyer, Nkosiyabo Sibanda of Tanaka Law Chambers

“I cannot confirm or deny that. I choose not to respond to that question for security reasons.

What I can tell you is that Mahachi is safe and awaits his day in court.

I will not say more,” said Sibanda.

Mahachi, the source reveals, reluctantly returned home at the behest of his club SuperSport United, who suspended him and “advised him to attend to his family and the allegations against him”.

“He was not going to return home if his club had not cleared him.

He was going to leave all matters to his lawyers.

But now he has no choice, in order to save his career, he had to come home and face the music.

But he is very upbeat and believes that he will win the case in court,” said the source. -B Metro

Mugabe Movie Bootleged

Two Harare men have been charged for piracy after selling copies of a movie chronicling the late former President Robert Mugabe’s rise and fall.

The movie titled Mugabe 2020 was directed by Nigerian film producer Robert O’Peters and has a market value of US$30 million.
Cliff Marufu (35) and Blessing Nhamo (36), who are represented by Tinashe Mbala of Nyawo Ruzive Legal Practitioners, appeared before Harare magistrate Tafadzwa Mhiti facing piracy charges. They were remanded out of custody to June 14.
The court alleges that on May 24, 2022, the complainant in the company of one Sergeant Chihiya and Nyanzou visited Marufu’s workplace at Angwa House pretending to be seeking the movie.
According to court documents, Marufu admitted being in possession of the film before charging them US$1 for three copies of the movie.
He was arrested after copying the movie onto a flash disk.
Marufu implicated  Nhamo, saying he was the source of the movie, leading to his arrest.
The movie, which was released in 2020, shows Mugabe’s rise from being a prisoner, a guerrilla fighter and later the country’s President for 37 years before he was toppled by a coup in 2017. -Newsday

Mnangagwa Commiting Terrorism

CCC Africa Day Message

CCC Namibia commemorates Africa Day under the theme:Focused on the importance of addressing malnutrition and food insecurity.

25 May 2022

Citizens Coalition For Change Namibia joins rest of the continent in celebrating Africa Unity Day, also popularly known as Africa Day. This day is celebrated yearly on May 25th, it eulogises and commemorates the inception of the Organization of African Unity(OAU). It is currently a statutory public holiday in several countries such as Namibia, Zimbabwe,Zambia,The Gambia,Ghana,Lesotho,Mali, Mauritania, Guinea only to mention but a few.

As we commemorate this fundamental day, we reflect on the social, political and economic accomplishments of our people across the breadths and lengths of the African continent. It is also an opportune time to take this juncture to focus on the challenges of malnutrition and food insecurity many decades after uniting to liberate ourselves. On May 25th 1963, the visionaries championed by the late vibrant leader of Ghana, Kwame Nkrumah and others from 30 of the then independent African states signed a founding charter in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to unite against the much hated colonialism and apatheid.

Yellow Revolutionaries in Namibia are cognisant that the agenda of the resolute organisation was barely to bring about socio-economic change, human freedoms and absolute independence to many African countries.

In 1991, the organisation established the African Economic Community, and in 2002 the Organization of African Unity established its own successor, the African Union. Against this clear background of the commitment and dedication of the Nkurumah generation to defeat colonialism and apatheid in Africa, Citizens Coalition For Namibia shall assess the political, social and economic accomplishments in the motherland.

As a sure way of reflecting on the progress made since independence in Zimbabwe, we have not seen any sign of the respect to human freedoms. We have not seen ZANUPF’s commitment to better the livelihoods of its people in a purported independent and sovereign country. It is a public secret that Zimbabwe, once the breadbasket of the region , has for years been facing food defiencies , compelling her to rely on humanitarian aid.

Citizens Coalition For Change Namibia blames the clueless Harare regime on food insecurity and malnutrition as citizens continue to scratch their heads for a single nutritious meal per day. We encourage post-colonial African leaders to accomplish the unfinished business of the liberation struggle. Citizens in Namibia are conscious of their mandate to fulfil the dreams and aspirations of the liberation war.

Although the politically inept ZanuPF regime would like to blame recurring droughts for the problems of malnutrition and food insecurity, yellow citizens are convinced that the bloody, violent and chaotic land reform program which started in 2000 and displaced competent white farmers from the land that is now lying idle is the source of these problems. As a citizens movement which subscribes to Pan-Africanism- we don’t dispute the idea of giving Zimbabweans land but we absolutely condemn the irrational strategy employed by the late President Robert Mugabe during the haphazard and partisan distribution. Our ardent Change Champion in Chief President Advocate Nelson Chamisa always articulates the party position on the land question. Land should be given to productive Zimbabweans with the potential to address malnutrition and food insecurity in our beloved country on a non-biased manner.

The latest 2021 rural Zimbabwe vulnerability assessment committee rural report indicated that 2.9 million people in rural areas – that is 27% of the rural households – continue to be food insecure during of zenith lean season between January and March 2022. In the same year, the United Nations agency mirrored that its assessment unearthed that more than 5 million people in Zimbabwe are victims of malnutrition and food insecurity. Instead of trying alleviate citizens from poverty, ZanuPF goes around giving them 2 cups of Chinese rice which is a mockery to human existence

In addition, urbanites also fall prey to malnutrition and food insecurity since up to 2.4 million people are expected to be food insecure according to the latest 2021 urban livelihoods assessment. It is quite pathetic that after the commitment displayed by the Nkurumah generation, Africa continues to suffer from malnutrition and food insecurity despite taking full control of their politics and economics. As we commemorate this day, we would like to remind African leaders to revisit the agenda of the Organization of African Unity now African Union.

Are we still United as Africa when our people are still asked travelling documents within Africa? Are still United when our own are being brutally killed both at home and in South Africa? In recent months, we witnessed Elvis Nyathi being set alight in Diepsloot, South Africa, we really miss the visionaries who wanted to see independent and united Africa, may the dear soul of our gallant fighter namely Kwame Nkrumah rest in eternal power. His spirit of unity and cooperation of African countries shall continue to inspire change champions across the globe.

Swiss Video of Mnangagwa Literally Dancing to His Own Song

By Farai D Hove | As the hired BMW’s wheels turned into the street, the ZANU PF leader, Emmerson Mnangagwa immediately swung his hands up repeatedly to the sound, “ED Pfeee,” while being greeted by a handful 10 supporters.

Walking into the meeting room of Zimbabweans, Mnangagwa’s meeting was launched with the song, Kutonga Kwaro. The whole house became animated with the same old coup enchantment. It is the song written by ZANU PF musician Jah Prayzah. With no other politician receiving such cultique, it was too clear that instead of discussing world economics, what he travelled for, Mnangagwa has gone on the literal path of self praise, dancing to his own song.

“Prosecutor Dru Ramsamy, asked the court to impose a prescribed minimum sentence, because of the effects this type of offence has in the community, as money that is supposed to be spent on developing communities, is now spent on replacing the damaged items and tightening security. Vingiran had no regards for the laws of the country over and above being an illegal immigrant.” She was quoted saying

Shocking Condom Prices

By- In a shocking development, a pack of condoms is now costing more than a domestic worker’s salary.

Journalist and social rights activist Hopewell Chin’ono said Zanu PF’s corruption caused this.

He posted on Twitter:
This might help you understand Zimbabwe’s economic collapse. The Zimbabwean Government announced through a gazette last week that the official domestic worker wage is ZW$10,000. Now a pack of condoms today is ZW$12,200! This is what ZANUPF incompetence and corruption has done!

Events Evolution Hailed

By A Correspondent| A local events management company Events Evolution has been hailed for a world class set up for the live recording of the Great Physician Live Video recording held at Harare International Conference Centre recently.

The custom stage accommodated about 78 people.

The stage made of supa wood, scaffolding and steel has left many convinced that the country is heading towards the right direction in hosting world class events.

Lighting and Led Screen that had a collection of over 60 chauvet professional fixtures (Lights) were used to anchor the Live Video Recording.

The stage has already set the arts industry in frenzy with critics hailing the set up.

Events Evolution director Talent Banda said the The company director Talent Banda said they have been trying to bring world class standards in hosting events.

“Zimbabwe like any other country is doing well in events and therefore we need to bring world class standards as events management company,” he said.

Banda said he was overwhelmed by the response he was getting.

“The stage was on point and the response is overwhelming. I have seen on various social media platforms that people have appreciated our efforts,” he added.

The company has hosted several events that include the recently held gospel concert featuring Sinach and Jack’s at the National Sports Stadium just to mention a few.

“We have been doing well and several people have appreciated our efforts. Our Facebook page Events Evolution Zimbabwe has reference of our previous work,” he said.

Blogger and arts critic Plot Mhako said the set up was on point showing how the country was moving towards hosting world class events.

“The stage was on point.
I have seen stages before but that was great set up. We have to move towards that as a country. Moving towards world class,”

Watch Zanu PF Caught Stealing Elections

By- Zanu PF in Masvingo has been caught red-handed bussing people and getting them IDs at midnight.

Masvingo Mirror witnessed a Mutendi High School bus curiously parked outside the registry office in Masvingo at midnight.

The publication monitored the parked bus from a few meters as passengers, some in party regalia, moved in and out and proceeded to the registry office.

A Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) vehicle is parked behind the bus, and the officer closely monitors the situation in-between trips to and from his office.
Masvingo District Development Co-ordinator (DDC), Ray Hove arrives in his Silver Toyota Fortuner and briefly chats to the man from the President’s Office and drives off.
Mirror chief cameraman eventually sneaks in and joins the process.

It emerges that the school bus is on a political mission. The passengers are actually Zanu PF supporters brought in from Masvingo North, a constituency run by Bishop Mutendi’s son-in-law Davis Marapira who is also a Minister in the President’s office.
The Mirror cameramen observes as the passengers, young and old are shuffled from one office to another as they start by getting pictures taken and then proceed to the birth certificates and IDs.
The passengers are getting instant birth-certificates, then IDs and they are added onto the 2023 voters’ roll. It’s a business class treatment for a process that currently takes up to a year for one to complete.
All is done in a matter of hours.

Getting an ID has been a difficult process over the last three years. New applicants are being told to leave their names at the registry offices and come after three months, when they come at that time they are given yet another three months and the postponements go on and on.
In rural areas mobile registration units process a few IDs a day and thereafter give excuses like the camera is not working or there is no network to complete the process.

A Mirror reporter today went to the same office where IDs were being issued last night and told that there is no network.
Sources in Zanu PF said the clandestine issuance of IDs and registration of voters is just a tip of the iceberg. In Gutu Senator Lovemore Matuke and his MPs including Winston Chitando and Yeukai Simbanegavi are doing it on a grand scale.
Asked for a comment, Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) vice president, Tendai Biti said there was nothing wrong with political parties encouraging their supporters to register to vote or get national documents but bringing in Government workers to do the work at night and in secrecy constitutes an illegality.
He said that CCC is ready to take those involved to court.

Hove declined to comment and referred The Mirror to Masvingo District registrar Lawrence Mapara who he said was in charge of the department. Mapara in turn referred questions to Masvingo Provincial Registrar Sithembeni Chitsa who said that she was travelling to Harare before she hung up her phone.
Sanctions Mutendi, a former head at Mutendi and now spokesperson for Bishop Nehemia Mutendi said somebody asked to use the bus but he was not sure who it was.
“Someone asked for the bus but I was not there and I am not sure who it is,” said Mutendi.

The process went on until about 12 mid-night, however it is clearly written on the gate that the registrar’s office operates from 8am- 4:30pm.
Efforts to get a comment from Marapira were futile as he is said to be in South Africa.
Zanu PF Masvingo spokesperson Elphias Murambiwa switched off his phone when contacted for a comment.
Masvingo Permanent Secretary Dr Jefter Sakupwanya said he was not aware of the issue.
“I am out of town and not aware of that. I will look into the matter,” said Sakupwanya.

Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum Executive Director Musa Kika expressed concern at the issuing of the documents after the registrar’s office working hours.
“It raises eyebrows for the registrar’s office to issue national documents after hours. It becomes difficult to ascertain whether the documents are legitimate and are being given according to the book. The registrar’s office should clarify on that,” said Kika.
On the same night that Mutendi School bus was ferrying Zanu PF supporters to the registry office, another school bus from Mapanzure High was involved in an accident while taking women to First Lady Auxilia Mnangagwa’s cooking competitions in Vic Falls and it’s a write-off.
