CCC Candidate Patrick Cheza Remanded in Jail Amidst False Accusations

GWERU, September 10, 2023 – In a startling development, Patrick Cheza, the losing Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) candidate for Chirumanzu South constituency in the 2023 elections, finds himself stranded in jail after being falsely accused by ZANU PF of inciting public violence. Cheza’s bail ruling has been postponed, leaving him in custody for an extended period.

Magistrate Ms. Beauty Dube, standing in for Presiding Magistrate Mr. Tendai Mahwe, further remanded Cheza in custody to tomorrow for a bail ruling. Ms. Dube acknowledged the defense’s concern about the delay in the bail ruling but cited the extensive 218 handwritten pages of the case record as the reason for the postponement. She emphasized that the court couldn’t deliver the ruling in place of Mr. Mahwe.

The ordeal began when Cheza voluntarily handed himself over to the police, accompanied by his lawyer Mr. Esau Mandipa, following the arrest of his supporters. These supporters were accused of assaulting former Deputy Minister of Environment, Climate, Tourism, and Hospitality Industry, Cde Barbara Rwodzi, after her son, Mr. George Chengetai Rwodzi, was involved in an accident with a vehicle allegedly belonging to Cheza.

Prosecutor Mr. Taurai Mabuto alleged that on August 24, Cheza arrived at the scene of the accident and shouted at Cde Rwodzi. He, along with several others, allegedly incited violence by shouting in vernacular language, “ngaarohwe,” which translates to “beat her up.” Subsequently, the group charged towards former Deputy Minister Rwodzi, wielding iron bars, logs, and knives.

In the ensuing chaos, Cheza, visibly agitated, raised his hand in a challenging manner and continued to provoke former Deputy Minister Rwodzi. This led to an attack in which she was tripped, and one individual attempted to stab her in the face with a knife. The group continued the assault, indiscriminately kicking her several times with booted feet all over her body. The attack only ceased when her security aide fired a shot into the air.

Former Deputy Minister Rwodzi sustained severe injuries and was admitted to the hospital for treatment. Cheza and the other accused individuals now face public violence charges, while Cheza awaits his bail ruling.

This incident has raised concerns about the fairness of the legal proceedings and the use of false accusations in political contexts, further highlighting the challenges faced by individuals involved in Zimbabwean politics.

Write breaking news: Advisor to the Zanu PF Politburo member and former Executive Mayor of Bulawayo, Joshua Teke Malinga, who died on Friday, has been declared a national hero. He was 79.

In his condolence message last night, Emmerson Mnangagwa said the ruling Zanu PF party had unanimously conferred him with national hero status in recognition of his role in championing the cause of special interest groups in public policy, particularly those living with disability.

“In recognition of his distinguished role in the struggle for our independence, in the development of our nation since its inception, and in championing the cause of special interest groups in public policy and national development, the ruling Zanu PF Party has unanimously decided to accord Malinga national hero status,” said Mnangagwa.

He said he learnt with sadness about the demise of Malinga.

“I learnt with a deep sense of grief and sadness of the passing on last Friday of Joshua Teke Malinga, following a brave fight against a malignant form of prostrate cancer. A nationalist stalwart and vocal proponent of disability rights, the late Malinga was a leading voice both in the ruling party, Zanu PF, and in Government on disability issues, including ensuring, in his capacity as my special advisor, that Government policy was alive and sensitive to interests of disabled persons across gender, age, class or colour,” said Mnangagwa.

“My decision to appoint him to advise me on this all-important yet often easily overlooked area was informed by his unequivocal and fervent interest in protecting and defending the rights of disabled persons.”

Malinga’s illustrious life, said Mnangagwa, was testimony that disability is not an inability for one to discover himself.

“A victim of polio at a tender age of 2, the late Malinga’s illustrious life and career bore testimony to the fact that circumstances of disability need not diminish one’s ability and life chances. For him, disability became a spur to an exceptional life and career, including courageously participating and sharing in the risks of nationalist politics, and in the struggle for our independence,” said Mnangagwa.

“An accounting graduate, Malinga rose through the ranks of the country’s nationalist politics until he was elevated to the Central Committee and, later to the Politburo of the ruling party, Zanu PF which he served with utmost loyalty, even as his health gradually failed and deserted him. He never missed any party functions or meetings.”

He said Malinga demonstrated diligence and integrity during his time as Mayor of Bulawayo.

“A two-time Executive Mayor of our second capital, Bulawayo, the late Malinga personified diligence and integrity in civil and municipal matters, virtues woefully scarce nowadays. His wise leadership and profound counsel will thus be sorely missed at different echelons of our party, our Government and our nation,” Mnangagwa said.

“May I, on behalf of our nation, the ruling Zanu PF party, Government, my family and on my behalf, express my deepest, heartfelt condolences to the Malinga family on this their saddest loss.

“May they derive solace from the knowledge that the nation in whose defence and interest Malinga was put under illegal sanctions, today joins them in mourning his sad, untimely demise, and in according him deserved honours and a befitting farewell.”

Malinga was born on April 20, 1944, in Filabusi. He was born able-bodied and was attacked by polio at a very young age.

He grew up in Filabusi and would remain at home looking after the grains while others took to the fields.

He was then taken to Bulawayo by the late Naison Khutshwekhaya Ndlovu who took him to Jairos Jiri centre where he went to school and later trained as a cobbler.

As a young man he was touched by how blacks were treated by whites leading him to join politics.

He became an activist and rose in politics to become a popular figure. Malinga was later elected Ward 2 Councillor in the early 1990s and became Mayor in 1993 up to 1996 serving two terms as an Executive Mayor.

He was once a Zanu PF district chairman for Lookout Masuku district before becoming a Provincial member. He rose to become a Central Committee member and was subsequently appointed a member of the Politburo up to the time of his death. He was once the World President of the disabled people.

FIVE families from the Bilashaba area of Zvishavane district have been left homeless after a veld fire destroyed their homes Tuesday night.

The origins of the fire remain a mystery.

“We don’t even know where to start from as things stand, it is a serious blow,” said a victim.

Another victim said, “This is very bad especially since we do not know the origins of the fire and were caught unaware.”

The government has however come to the rescue of the families with revelations that resources are being mobilised to assist the victims.

“We are trying to mobilise resources to assist the disturbed families,” said Assistant District Development Coordinator for Zvishavane, Lucas Chinhara.

Environmental Management Agency Zvishavane District Education and Publicity Officer, Sally Maguvu said, “We are continually losing land to veld fires, and it’s sad that families continue to be affected in the process, but various resources are being availed to cater for the disaster.”

According to the Environmental Management Agency, the Midlands province has lost over 25 000 hectares of land to veld fires during the 2023 fire season.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has reportedly deployed shadowy Zanu PF affiliate Forever Associates Zimbabwe (FAZ) to intimidate and spy on non-governmental organisations (NGOs), a latest report by a local research unit reveals.

FAZ is a registered private voluntary organisation with strong links to the Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) and is run by the spy organisation’s deputy director-general, retired Brigadier-General Walter Tapfumaneyi

Mnangagwa is accused of creating shadowy civic groups to undermine mostly human-rights aligned civic society organisations as he seeks to consolidate his hold on power.

A number of shadowy groups such as the pastors, lawyers and teachers for ED, among others, were formed in the run-up to the August 23 and 24 elections to drive Mnangagwa’s re-election bid.

According to a report titled FAZ, ‘Lawfare and the Menu of Electoral Manipulation’, by Zimbabwe Democracy Institute (ZDI), Mnangagwa deployed FAZ to infiltrate and sabotage civil society organisations (CSOs).

“FAZ has been used to restrict the activities of civil society organisations, which play a vital role in promoting democracy and human rights in Zimbabwe,” it said.

“FAZ group, which is made up of former military personnel and CIO operatives and led by CIO deputy director Walter Tapfumaneyi, is being used by Zanu PF to spy on and harass CSOs.”

ZDI principal researcher Bekezela Gumbo told NewsDay that FAZ has been monitoring CSO activities and disrupting their work.

“This has also led to self-censorship among civil society people,” Gumbo said.

“Calling people to meetings which are hosted by non-governmental organisations has been difficult due to the heavy presence of FAZ in their community.

“Some of these people, who would have been invited to the meetings by the CSOs, are afraid that their personal information will not be safe, hence the risk of being harassed.”

Gumbo said many CSOs had been silenced as a result.

“Many CSOs are now afraid to be vocal, they now self-censor,” he said.

“The environment is tense and it’s now just a survival strategy so that they get registered in Zimbabwe.

“The NGOs are now just docile as they are being intimidated by FAZ.”

The report also indicated that Mnangagwa was using a lawfare strategy to suppress CSOs.

“Lawfare strategy used by the Zanu PF government is the use of various legal instruments to restrict the activities and funding of civil society organisations, which play a vital role in promoting democracy and human rights in Zimbabwe.”

Contacted for comment, FAZ president Kudakwashe Munsaka said the ZDI report was mischievous and meant to tarnish the image of the Zanu PF affiliate.

“It’s actually funny how they are accusing FAZ of spying on other NGOs when they are the ones who are doing something that is unprecedented,” Munsaka, who lost the race for the Binga North parliamentary seat to Citizens Coalition for Change’s Prince Dubeko Sibanda, told NewsDay.

“The ZDI is just playing politics, there is no substance to what they are saying. They actually want to paint FAZ into some monster.

“Yes, FAZ has been functioning since August last year and if you want to measure the impact of FAZ in the political scene, it’s about intimate voter contact and FAZ has not made a secret about that.”

Zanu PF acting director for information, Farai Marapira, also dismissed the ZDI report.

“It’s just an institution of the opposition which has run out of ideas. All those allegations are actually false,” Marapira said.

Several election observer groups flagged FAZ for undermining the August 23 and 24 elections by, among other things, intimidating voters through voter exit surveys.

The CCC has rejected the election results citing several irregularities such as intimidation of voters by FAZ.

The Nelson Chamisa-led opposition party is demanding fresh elections supervised by the African Union and the Southern African Development Community, but Zanu PF has ignored the demand.

The Citizens Coalitions for Change (CCC) has said it has not endorsed President Emmerson Mnangagwa after its legislators were sworn in yesterday at the new Parliament Building in Mt Hampden.

The CCC had earlier hinted at boycotting the event in protest over alleged electoral fraud.

The CCC is demanding a fresh election supervised by Sadc and the African Union.

In an interview with NewsDay yesterday, CCC deputy spokesperson Gift “Ostallos” Siziba said their attendance was not an endorsement of Mnangagwa’s victory.

“This is not an endorsement of Zanu PF’s alleged win, but just protocol. We cannot endorse electoral theft,” Siziba said

CCC national organising secretary Amos Chibaya, however, complained that party members were harassed for flaunting yellow ties.

“I think it’s Zanu PF members who don’t want to see anything yellow. The yellow ties had no party symbols,” he said.

Zanu PF has 136 Members of Parliament (MPs) and 33 Senators. The CCC has 73 MPs and 27 Senators.

In separate interviews, CCC and Zanu PF MPs said they were excited after being sworn in.

Kadoma legislator Gift Mambipiri (CCC) said his mandate was to fulfil the wishes of the people who elected him.

“I promise that the people’s vote will never go to waste,” he said.

Cowdray Park MP Pashor Sibanda (CCC) said their party wanted to reconstruct the agenda of Parliament.

“We have seen how Parliament has been abused before,” Sibanda, who defeated outgoing Finance minister Mthuli Ncube, said.

Hwedza South legislator Tinoda Machakaire (Zanu PF) said: “It’s not about coming to Parliament to make noise, but it’s about coming to develop and give the nation what we can do, what we were voted for by our constituencies for the betterment of our country.”

Chikomba West legislator Tatenda Mavetera (Zanu PF) said: “Being in Parliament is a mandate that we have been given by the people and we have to represent their interests more and push for legislation.”

GRUESOME details have emerged on how cannibal murder suspect Thandolwenkosi Ndlovu mercilessly took the lives of six people on the streets of Harare before eating their body parts.

Ndlovu appeared in court this Thursday where he was remanded in custody to Monday next week after requesting to seek the assistance of a legal practitioner.

Ndlovu is accused of killing six people in Harare’s Central Business District in the space of a week by allegedly crushing their heads before eating the victims’ body parts.

It is a story that has sent shivers down many a spine as the man whose name speaks of the love of God is accused of having gone against one of the Ten Commandments, mercilessly cannibalising his victims within a week of terror on the streets of Harare.

With the long arm of the law having caught up with him, Ndlovu appeared in court this Thursday where he was not asked to plead and was advised to apply for bail at the High Court.

Horrific details of how he allegedly tormented his victims emerged with the court being told that on the 28th of August, Ndlovu approached the late Emmanuel Godfrey who was asleep on a pavement near Chinengundu Building at the corner of George Silundika Avenue and Simon Muzenda Street in Harare, where he crushed Chinengundu’s head using a concrete block.

The accused is alleged to have killed the victim and slit open his stomach and took some body parts which are yet to be established.

The accused was allegedly at it again on the 31st of August when he approached another victim who was asleep at the corner of Inez Terrace and Robert Mugabe Roads, where he used the same modus operandi to kill the victim.

Ndlovu also stands accused of the brutal murder of four other people using the same method.

The suspect ran out of luck on the 4th of this month after detectives from CID Homicide, Harare, got information linking him to the offences.

The Ndlovu case has sent shockwaves in Harare with those living and working on the streets now fearing for their safety.

WOMEN’S rights organisations are advocating for mentorship programmes in communities and schools to curb teenage pregnancies in the wake of revelations that 21 percent of child births between 2019 and 2022 were adolescents.

Findings from a new National Assessment on Adolescent Pregnancies in Zimbabwe conducted by the Centre for Sexual Health and HIV AIDS Research Zimbabwe (CeSHHAR) in conjunction with the Ministry of Health and Child Care, UNICEF, UNESCO and UNFPA has revealed a worrying trend of teenage pregnancies from as young as 10 years old, with some of them testing positive for HIV.

It is in this context that women’s rights organisations are calling for more education and mentorship programmes to empower the girl child.

Executive Director for the Women’s Action Group, Mrs. Edinah Masiyiwa said, “We have noted with concern that young women have no information around issues of sex and sexuality, they don’t have information on the consequences of having premarital sex when they are very young. So, it’s something we are also focusing on, trying to raise awareness on the disadvantages or the consequences of early sexual debut.”

“What we are also noticing is that there is no fear of getting pregnant as compared to contracting HIV and I think as a country we should give those messages that we were giving in the early 90s of HIV and we shouldn’t target the older generation only but we should also include young people. Parents are also not spending more time with their children,” she added.

Whispers programmes manager, Tendai Chatikobo said, “The main drivers in teen pregnancies is probably the lack of access to education for most young girls, the lack of access to materials for them to be occupied with things that will lead to them being empowered. I think we are beginning to see that a lot of young girls especially in vulnerable communities are struggling. Who is to blame? We cannot speak of blame as such but we can speak of the circumstances surrounding the happenings.

“We ought to go and analyse these situations and eliminate cases of any violence, cases of poverty that are driving these young girls to be subjected to activities that lead to pregnancy to try and attain a way of survival. After we eliminate that, we also try and see how best to capacitate them so that they can pursue their studies or they can pursue courses that can empower them and to give them motivation through mentorship.”

According to the report, an estimated 1 706 946 Antenatal Care bookings were made in 1 560 healthcare facilities from 2019-2022 among women of childbearing age.

Of these, 21% were among adolescents aged between 10 and 19.

The study found that pregnant and adolescent mothers were found in all geographical locations but mostly concentrated in rural areas, mining, and farming communities, and were more likely to be from single-parent households or staying with non-biological parents.

Adolescents either voluntarily engaged in sex or were coerced by their partners while very few were sexually abused.

So, it’s something we are also focusing on, trying to raise awareness on the disadvantages or the consequences of early sexual debut.”

“What we are also noticing is that there is no fear of getting pregnant as compared to contracting HIV and I think as a country we should give those messages that we were giving in the early 90s of HIV and we shouldn’t target the older generation only but we should also include young people. Parents are also not spending more time with their children,” she added.

Whispers programmes manager, Tendai Chatikobo said, “The main drivers in teen pregnancies is probably the lack of access to education for most young girls, the lack of access to materials for them to be occupied with things that will lead to them being empowered. I think we are beginning to see that a lot of young girls especially in vulnerable communities are struggling. Who is to blame? We cannot speak of blame as such but we can speak of the circumstances surrounding the happenings.

“We ought to go and analyse these situations and eliminate cases of any violence, cases of poverty that are driving these young girls to be subjected to activities that lead to pregnancy to try and attain a way of survival. After we eliminate that, we also try and see how best to capacitate them so that they can pursue their studies or they can pursue courses that can empower them and to give them motivation through mentorship.”

According to the report, an estimated 1 706 946 Antenatal Care bookings were made in 1 560 healthcare facilities from 2019-2022 among women of childbearing age.

Of these, 21% were among adolescents aged between 10 and 19.

The study found that pregnant and adolescent mothers were found in all geographical locations but mostly concentrated in rural areas, mining, and farming communities, and were more likely to be from single-parent households or staying with non-biological parents.

Adolescents either voluntarily engaged in sex or were coerced by their partners while very few were sexually abused.

Teen pregnancies on the rise

GRUESOME details have emerged on how cannibal murder suspect Thandolwenkosi Ndlovu mercilessly took the lives of six people on the streets of Harare before eating their body parts.

Ndlovu appeared in court this Thursday where he was remanded in custody to Monday next week after requesting to seek the assistance of a legal practitioner.

Ndlovu is accused of killing six people in Harare’s Central Business District in the space of a week by allegedly crushing their heads before eating the victims’ body parts.

It is a story that has sent shivers down many a spine as the man whose name speaks of the love of God is accused of having gone against one of the Ten Commandments, mercilessly cannibalising his victims within a week of terror on the streets of Harare.

With the long arm of the law having caught up with him, Ndlovu appeared in court this Thursday where he was not asked to plead and was advised to apply for bail at the High Court.

Horrific details of how he allegedly tormented his victims emerged with the court being told that on the 28th of August, Ndlovu approached the late Emmanuel Godfrey who was asleep on a pavement near Chinengundu Building at the corner of George Silundika Avenue and Simon Muzenda Street in Harare, where he crushed Chinengundu’s head using a concrete block.

The accused is alleged to have killed the victim and slit open his stomach and took some body parts which are yet to be established.

The accused was allegedly at it again on the 31st of August when he approached another victim who was asleep at the corner of Inez Terrace and Robert Mugabe Roads, where he used the same modus operandi to kill the victim.

Ndlovu also stands accused of the brutal murder of four other people using the same method.

The suspect ran out of luck on the 4th of this month after detectives from CID Homicide, Harare, got information linking him to the offences.

The Ndlovu case has sent shockwaves in Harare with those living and working on the streets now fearing for their safety.

Muvevi, who faces four counts of murder, was this Tuesday adjudged unfit to stand trial due to mental challenges.

The ruling has been subject to multiple interpretations from various quotas, with some disappointed that he has been let off the hook.

“The latest judgment means that the suspect is going to receive mental treatment until such a time. This does not mean he is going home but he is still facing allegations of murder and attempted murder. But what happened is that the court, after reviewing psychiatric reports from two different doctors saw it fit to place him in a psychiatric unit,” said legal expert, Mr Cosam Gohori.

Another legal expert, Mrs Muriel Hondonga said, “It is clear that the court committed Muvevi to a psychiatric hospital after the reports from doctors revealed that he is mentally unstable to stand trial. This does not mean that he is going to be released from prison, but he will be receiving his treatment under the watch of the responsible authorities.”

There was also clarity on the administrative issues surrounding the commitment of a suspect to a psychiatric hospital.

“This is done after the medical practitioners examined one’s mental state and, in this case, Muvevi was found to be mentally unstable.

This is done for two reasons to further the administration of justice and for the safety of the community. So, in this case, Muvevi is not off the hook but he has been placed in an institution where he will be receiving treatment,” said legal expert, Mrs Sekai Magawa.

Another murder suspect, Bright Zhantali, who is accused of killing and raping more than 20 women was also committed to a psychiatric hospital after he was declared mentally unstable.

MASVINGO-Regional Magistrate Bishard Chineka sentenced a Chivi man to 40 years in jail for attempted murder and rape.

Bornface Marisa (33) of Chiuswa Village under Chief Nemauzhe will serve 36 years in jail.

Magistrate Chineka convicted and sentenced Marisa for rape and attempted murder of a female villager (name withheld).

The incident happened on February 22, 2023, around 11 pm in Chiuswa Village.

Circumstances are that Marisa broke into a bedroom that a woman was sleeping in. She tried to escape and he assaulted her with an unknown object.

It is my distinguished honour and privilege to be addressing you my fellow Countrymen and Women as well as friends of our beloved motherland, Zimbabwe at this auspicious occasion. Allow me, on behalf of the people of Zimbabwe, my Party ZANU PF, and indeed on my own behalf and that of my family, to express my deep gratitude for the kind messages of congratulations we have received following our elections.

In the same spirit, I warmly welcome the various delegations, from the SADC region, Africa, and beyond, who are joining us today for this inauguration ceremony. Your presence attests to the long-standing solidarity and support, Zimbabwe has enjoyed from the progressive members of the comity of nations which date back to the days of our protracted 16-year war of liberation for our Independence and freedom.

The 2023 Harmonised General Elections have come and gone. I once again thank you, my fellow Zimbabweans, for dutifully preserving and safeguarding our national unity and peace, before, during and after the elections. Ndinokutendai mhuri ye Zimbabwe. Ngiyalibonga muli yeZimbabwe.

As Zimbabwe, we have demonstrated that we are a mature democracy. The people of this precious nation, which is born out of the sacred blood of those who fought for our independence, freedom, democracy and indeed the right to vote, have spoken.

Our unparalleled conduct before, during and after the electoral processes is praiseworthy and will be an everlasting standard and benchmark as we continue to deepen and entrench constitutional democracy in our country. There are no losers, but a victory for the people of Zimbabwe against neo-colonial and hegemonic tendencies of our country’s detractors and those who believe that “might is right”.

Counter-revolutionary forces and their proxies will never prevail in our free mother country, Zimbabwe.

Let us now look ahead with unflinching focus and determination, emboldened by our rich history as a resilient, warrior people.

We continue to defy the onslaught of the illegal sanctions as well as the negative narratives peddled by those bent on stunting our country’s development.

Our strength in our diverse cultures, capacities and competencies has seen us realise unprecedented successes towards Vision 2030.

Zimbabwe is surely on the rise. Our national development philosophy, Nyika inovakwa, igotongwa, igonamatigwa, nevene vayo, Ilizwe lakhiwa, libuswe, likhulekelwe ngabanikazi balo, shall continue to be the beacon of our pro-people policies, anchored on Pan-African values and norms. This philosophy sums up our sovereignty as well as the collective duty and obligation we have to develop our country and the African continent.

Fellow Compatriots;

Today, I have once again taken an oath as a humble servant leader and President, committed to wholeheartedly serving you all, the people of our great motherland, Zimbabwe.

Under this renewed mandate, I have re-committed to continue faithfully upholding and defending our sacred national Constitution and laws, with integrity and impartiality, leaving no one and no place behind.

I stand before you my fellow Zimbabweans, at this historic moment of our nation as President of all Zimbabweans, regardless of tribe, religion, colour, creed, or political persuasion. I am honoured by the trust and confidence you have reposed in me to continue to serve in the office of President. Through your democratic vote, you have renewed and extended my mandate and that of our colossal revolutionary mass Party, ZANU PF.

I offer to you, individually and collectively, unity, love, oneness and brotherhood, as the people of the great, unitary and independent state of Zimbabwe.

Fellow Compatriots, Comrades and Friends;

My new Government will deliver on the promises we have made to you. The transformation of the living standards of our people, especially those in rural communities, will be accelerated, while the concerns of those in urban areas will not be neglected.

Responsive policies, projects and programmes, which begun during the first term of my Presidency are on course to lift many more people, out of poverty and into prosperity.

The hurdles such as the illegal, heinous sanctions and machinations of our detractors must be knocked out of our way through unity of purpose, hard honest work, innovativeness, resilience, focus and determination. Together as a united people, all challenges can be overcome; brick by brick, stone upon stone, and step by step.

The ongoing success milestones in the agriculture sector will be consolidated during this new term under my leadership. To date, we are food secure in both maize and wheat. All the agriculture sub-sectors have realised unprecedented growth. I commend our farmers as well as stakeholders in the agriculture sector for these achievements. This is indisputable evidence of the success of our Land Reform Programme and the responsive pro-people policies of the Second Republic.

Going forward, my new Government will prioritise guaranteeing this momentum through household and national food security.

The construction of dams, accelerated irrigation development, coupled with the ongoing borehole drilling programme, in every village and school, is set to insulate our agriculture sector from climate change induced weather fluctuations.

Vulnerable districts and areas are now the critical focus.

Rural Development will be implemented at full scale through robust rural agriculture industrialisation models.

This will result in our 35,000 villages country-wide, having productive agro-based companies, owned and run by the benefiting communities. The programme will see a multi-fold increase in rural incomes and sustainable livelihoods.

Concurrent with this thrust is the setting up of rural industries and systems designed to process, value add, beneficiate as well as export agricultural produce. Untapped opportunities exist for more of our people to penetrate the global markets and value chains through quality ‘Made in Zimbabwe’ goods and products.

The success of our agriculture sector has ripple effects to our agro-based manufacturing sector and Industrial base.

The factories that we all desire can only succeed if there is the requisite through-put from agriculture and mining, among other sectors. Therefore, I call upon us to respect each other as a united people, no matter where we live or our economic activities.

Comrades and Friends;

The past five years have delivered valuable lessons on our intricate economy, especially the fact that a national currency that is supported by a vibrant productive sector is indispensable to sustainable development. No country has ever developed without its own currency. Further, we can only develop and grow the economy based on our own internal resources.

I urge us all to believe in ourselves and our abilities, as Zimbabweans and Africans. Development and national prosperity based on what we have is more sustainable and durable. We must take pride in who we are and what we can do for ourselves.

The numerous mineral resources in our country must be sustainably exploited to leap-frog our industrialisation and development. The lives of our citizens and the fortunes of our country as a whole must be improved. We expect nothing less.

Our economy must realise maximum benefits from increased beneficiation and value addition. As such, my new Administration, through the Responsible Mining Initiative, will ensure greater stewardship over our finite natural resources. These must benefit both present and future generations.

Riding on our abundant resources, as well as skilled and hard-working people, Zimbabwe is poised to take its place as a competitive manufacturing jurisdiction.

I exhort industry and commerce stakeholders to be patriotic and always seek an intricate balance between profit and the plight of our people. Profiteering,opportunistic tendencies and greed, will not move our country forward.

Together, let us grow our country’s manufacturing base, to use, consume and wear what we produce.

The new Government shall continue to foster a predictable business environment, where capital is safe. Those who want to invest in our country are welcome, based on respect and mutual benefits, for shared prosperity.

Distinguished Guests, Ladies and Gentlemen;

The modernisation of our national infrastructure, utilities and amenities will continue unabated. Transport inter-connectivity within provinces and further linking us to the rest of the SADC region and the Continent are a priority.

The internal capacities and local skills in road construction that have been developed over the last five years will be deployed to further modernise our road network.

Agreements and investments to modernise, repair and expand our rail system will be consummated to allow urgent revitalisation of the sector.

Water is life and a solution not only to sustainable food security and sovereignty but also for the water and sanitation needs of our fast growing urban populations. Gwayi-Shangani and Kunzvi Dams, which are set to meet the needs of Bulawayo and Harare Metropolitan Provinces, are scheduled to be completed soon.

During the last five year-term, my Administration delivered energy self-suffiency to our country. Courtesy of our comprehensive, strategic partnership with the People’s Republic of China, Hwange Unit 7 and Unit 8 are now on stream.

We will now move on to upgrade Hwange Unit 1 to Unit 6, among other national strategic power generation stations.

Additional work is continuing towards broadening our energy mix, inclusive of renewable energy, to increase the total energy output, in tandem with the demand created by our fast growing economy.

The recovery and growth of the tourism sector in the post COVID-19 pandemic era, is testimony that Zimbabwe is a safe and competitive tourism destination. The joint marketing of brand Zimbabwe with both regional and continental partnerships is critical to sustain growth in the sector.

The economic role of SMEs, women and youth, as key players in our quest to realise Vision 2030 is set to receive due attention.

My new Government shall further consolidate the achievements in the health and education sectors for quality health delivery and education, especially for those in our country-side. Resources will be availed to equip and modernise the numerous schools and clinics constructed during the last five years. The requisite resources will be channelled towards the commercialisation of start-ups developed in our Innovation Hubs and Heritage-Based Education 5.0. Industrial Parks under

Matters related to housing delivery, water sanitation, among other social amenities remain key to the modern, empowered, and prosperous Zimbabwe we all want and deserve. I call upon those elected at the local government levels to wholeheartedly serve the people of our great country.

Our citizens, especially those in urban areas have endured poor service delivery for far too long. Rate payers deserve hard working and competent local authorities who will ensure that our towns and cities

regain their long-lost pride and lustre, through world class service delivery.

Going into the future, those in the arts, sports and creative cultural industries will be supported to express their talents. However, the fraternity is called upon to promote and protect our Zimbabwean values, African culture as well as our Christian-oriented family traditions and norms. Never use the arts or media to promote self-hate and divisions in our nation.

Meanwhile, I express my profound gratitude to our traditional leaders, who are the custodians of our land and culture, together with the religious community who joined the crusade to preach peace, love and harmony in our nation. The institution of traditional leadership and freedom of worship will continue to be protected by my new Government.

Comrades and Friends;

Under my leadership and the new ZANU PF Government, democracy, good governance, the rule of law and the politics of tolerance will be entrenched, in line with the spirit and letter of our sacred national Constitution and laws.

We make no apologies for entrenching and protecting our unique Zimbabwean values, cultures and norms. In this regard, I challenge us all to remain Zimbabwean and African, in both thoughts and deeds.

Zimbabwe is a sovereign state and “a friend to all and enemy of none”. Our membership and engagement within SADC, the African Union and United Nations and other countries in the comity of nations remain guided by the principles of mutual respect and the sovereign equality of nations, as enshrined in the United Nations Charter.

The undermining of our national institutions and laws will not be condoned, under whatever guise. No country or group of persons should disregard the sovereign decisions and views of the people of our motherland, Zimbabwe.

We will never be second class citizens in our own country. We stand ready to welcome those nations who want to work with the new ZANU PF Government to build lasting partnerships to make the world a better place.

We look forward to joining both traditional and emerging global institutions who accept our hand of friendship.

The architecture and composition of the United Nations Security Council must be reformed to reflect democracy at a global level as well as the equality of nations.

Our country is committed to playing its part for the realisation of global peace and security, anchored on dialogue and the peaceful resolution of conflict.

Fellow Zimbabweans; Comrades and Friends;

In concluding, allow me to once again commend, you the people of our great motherland, Zimbabwe, for the successful, watershed, peaceful, free, fair, transparent and credible Harmonised General Elections.

We have shamed our detractors who predicted and clandestinely financed mayhem, expecting the worst from us, before, during and after our polls.

The will of the Zimbabwean people has been expressed and must be respected.

In unity we have defended this sacred land, bequeathed to us by our great heroes and heroines.

They paid for the democracy, independence and sovereignty we are enjoying today, with their precious lives. This thunderous victory for our sovereignty, dignity and right to be masters of our own destiny is in their honour.

In the enduring spirit of unity and peace that characterised this past election, I once again call upon all Zimbabweans to say no to violence, tribalism, regionalism, hate speech and other divisive tendencies. Peace, love, harmony and tolerance are in our DNA as a people.

Let us now turn our focus back to our collective duty and obligation to build, modernise and industrialise our country.

The quality of life of our people, from Zambezi to Limpopo, from Plumtree to Mutare must be improved. That duty lies with us all, as Zimbabweans, both here at home and in the Diaspora.

No one else will build our country. No one should ever come from elsewhere to govern our country.

We have the primary responsibility to offer supplications and prayers for our country. We must do all these ourselves. This is who we are, as the great people of Zimbabwe.

Fellow Compatriots;

Today, I have once again taken an oath as a humble servant leader and President, committed to wholeheartedly serving you all, the people of our great motherland, Zimbabwe.

Under this renewed mandate, I have re-committed to continue faithfully upholding and defending our sacred national Constitution and laws, with integrity and impartiality, leaving no one and no place behind.

I stand before you my fellow Zimbabweans, at this historic moment of our nation as President of all Zimbabweans, regardless of tribe, religion, colour, creed, or political persuasion. I am honoured by the trust and confidence you have reposed in me to continue to serve in the office of President. Through your democratic vote, you have renewed and extended my mandate and that of our colossal revolutionary mass Party, ZANU PF.

I offer to you, individually and collectively, unity, love, oneness and brotherhood, as the people of the great, unitary and independent state of Zimbabwe.

Fellow Compatriots, Comrades and Friends;

My new Government will deliver on the promises we have made to you. The transformation of the living standards of our people, especially those in rural communities, will be accelerated, while the concerns of those in urban areas will not be neglected.

Responsive policies, projects and programmes, which begun during the first term of my Presidency are on course to lift many more people, out of poverty and into prosperity.

The hurdles such as the illegal, heinous sanctions and machinations of our detractors must be knocked out of our way through unity of purpose, hard honest work, innovativeness, resilience, focus and determination. Together as a united people, all challenges can be overcome; brick by brick, stone upon stone, and step by step.

The ongoing success milestones in the agriculture sector will be consolidated during this new term under my leadership. To date, we are food secure in both maize and wheat. All the agriculture sub-sectors have realised unprecedented growth. I commend our farmers as well as stakeholders in the agriculture sector for these achievements. This is indisputable evidence of the success of our Land Reform Programme and the responsive pro-people policies of the Second Republic.

Going forward, my new Government will prioritise guaranteeing this momentum through household and national food security.

The construction of dams, accelerated irrigation development, coupled with the ongoing borehole drilling programme, in every village and school, is set to insulate our agriculture sector from climate change induced weather fluctuations.

Vulnerable districts and areas are now the critical focus.

Rural Development will be implemented at full scale through robust rural agriculture industrialisation models.

This will result in our 35,000 villages country-wide, having productive agro-based companies, owned and run by the benefiting communities. The programme will see a multi-fold increase in rural incomes and sustainable livelihoods.

Concurrent with this thrust is the setting up of rural industries and systems designed to process, value add, beneficiate as well as export agricultural produce. Untapped opportunities exist for more of our people to penetrate the global markets and value chains through quality ‘Made in Zimbabwe’ goods and products.

The success of our agriculture sector has ripple effects to our agro-based manufacturing sector and Industrial base.

The factories that we all desire can only succeed if there is the requisite through-put from agriculture and mining, among other sectors. Therefore, I call upon us to respect each other as a united people, no matter where we live or our economic activities.

Comrades and Friends;

The past five years have delivered valuable lessons on our intricate economy, especially the fact that a national currency that is supported by a vibrant productive sector is indispensable to sustainable development. No country has ever developed without its own currency. Further, we can only develop and grow the economy based on our own internal resources.

I urge us all to believe in ourselves and our abilities, as Zimbabweans and Africans. Development and national prosperity based on what we have is more sustainable and durable. We must take pride in who we are and what we can do for ourselves.

The numerous mineral resources in our country must be sustainably exploited to leap-frog our industrialisation and development. The lives of our citizens and the fortunes of our country as a whole must be improved. We expect nothing less.

Our economy must realise maximum benefits from increased beneficiation and value addition. As such, my new Administration, through the Responsible Mining Initiative, will ensure greater stewardship over our finite natural resources. These must benefit both present and future generations.

Riding on our abundant resources, as well as skilled and hard-working people, Zimbabwe is poised to take its place as a competitive manufacturing jurisdiction.

I exhort industry and commerce stakeholders to be patriotic and always seek an intricate balance between profit and the plight of our people. Profiteering,opportunistic tendencies and greed, will not move our country forward.

Together, let us grow our country’s manufacturing base, to use, consume and wear what we produce.

The new Government shall continue to foster a predictable business environment, where capital is safe. Those who want to invest in our country are welcome, based on respect and mutual benefits, for shared prosperity.

Distinguished Guests, Ladies and Gentlemen;

The modernisation of our national infrastructure, utilities and amenities will continue unabated. Transport inter-connectivity within provinces and further linking us to the rest of the SADC region and the Continent are a priority.

The internal capacities and local skills in road construction that have been developed over the last five years will be deployed to further modernise our road network.

Agreements and investments to modernise, repair and expand our rail system will be consummated to allow urgent revitalisation of the sector.

Water is life and a solution not only to sustainable food security and sovereignty but also for the water and sanitation needs of our fast growing urban populations. Gwayi-Shangani and Kunzvi Dams, which are set to meet the needs of Bulawayo and Harare Metropolitan Provinces, are scheduled to be completed soon.

During the last five year-term, my Administration delivered energy self-suffiency to our country. Courtesy of our comprehensive, strategic partnership with the People’s Republic of China, Hwange Unit 7 and Unit 8 are now on stream.

We will now move on to upgrade Hwange Unit 1 to Unit 6, among other national strategic power generation stations.

Additional work is continuing towards broadening our energy mix, inclusive of renewable energy, to increase the total energy output, in tandem with the demand created by our fast growing economy.

The recovery and growth of the tourism sector in the post COVID-19 pandemic era, is testimony that Zimbabwe is a safe and competitive tourism destination. The joint marketing of brand Zimbabwe with both regional and continental partnerships is critical to sustain growth in the sector.

The economic role of SMEs, women and youth, as key players in our quest to realise Vision 2030 is set to receive due attention.

My new Government shall further consolidate the achievements in the health and education sectors for quality health delivery and education, especially for those in our country-side. Resources will be availed to equip and modernise the numerous schools and clinics constructed during the last five years. The requisite resources will be channelled towards the commercialisation of start-ups developed in our Innovation Hubs and Heritage-Based Education 5.0. Industrial Parks under

Matters related to housing delivery, water sanitation, among other social amenities remain key to the modern, empowered, and prosperous Zimbabwe we all want and deserve. I call upon those elected at the local government levels to wholeheartedly serve the people of our great country.

Our citizens, especially those in urban areas have endured poor service delivery for far too long. Rate payers deserve hard working and competent local authorities who will ensure that our towns and cities

regain their long-lost pride and lustre, through world class service delivery.

Going into the future, those in the arts, sports and creative cultural industries will be supported to express their talents. However, the fraternity is called upon to promote and protect our Zimbabwean values, African culture as well as our Christian-oriented family traditions and norms. Never use the arts or media to promote self-hate and divisions in our nation.

Meanwhile, I express my profound gratitude to our traditional leaders, who are the custodians of our land and culture, together with the religious community who joined the crusade to preach peace, love and harmony in our nation. The institution of traditional leadership and freedom of worship will continue to be protected by my new Government.

Comrades and Friends;

Under my leadership and the new ZANU PF Government, democracy, good governance, the rule of law and the politics of tolerance will be entrenched, in line with the spirit and letter of our sacred national Constitution and laws.

We make no apologies for entrenching and protecting our unique Zimbabwean values, cultures and norms. In this regard, I challenge us all to remain Zimbabwean and African, in both thoughts and deeds.

Zimbabwe is a sovereign state and “a friend to all and enemy of none”. Our membership and engagement within SADC, the African Union and United Nations and other countries in the comity of nations remain guided by the principles of mutual respect and the sovereign equality of nations, as enshrined in the United Nations Charter.

The undermining of our national institutions and laws will not be condoned, under whatever guise. No country or group of persons should disregard the sovereign decisions and views of the people of our motherland, Zimbabwe.

We will never be second class citizens in our own country. We stand ready to welcome those nations who want to work with the new ZANU PF Government to build lasting partnerships to make the world a better place.

We look forward to joining both traditional and emerging global institutions who accept our hand of friendship.

The architecture and composition of the United Nations Security Council must be reformed to reflect democracy at a global level as well as the equality of nations.

Our country is committed to playing its part for the realisation of global peace and security, anchored on dialogue and the peaceful resolution of conflict.

In concluding, allow me to once again commend, you the people of our great motherland, Zimbabwe, for the successful, watershed, peaceful, free, fair, transparent and credible Harmonised General Elections.

We have shamed our detractors who predicted and clandestinely financed mayhem, expecting the worst from us, before, during and after our polls.

The will of the Zimbabwean people has been expressed and must be respected.

In unity we have defended this sacred land, bequeathed to us by our great heroes and heroines.

They paid for the democracy, independence and sovereignty we are enjoying today, with their precious lives. This thunderous victory for our sovereignty, dignity and right to be masters of our own destiny is in their honour.

In the enduring spirit of unity and peace that characterised this past election, I once again call upon all Zimbabweans to say no to violence, tribalism, regionalism, hate speech and other divisive tendencies. Peace, love, harmony and tolerance are in our DNA as a people.

Let us now turn our focus back to our collective duty and obligation to build, modernise and industrialise our country.

The quality of life of our people, from Zambezi to Limpopo, from Plumtree to Mutare must be improved. That duty lies with us all, as Zimbabweans, both here at home and in the Diaspora.

No one else will build our country. No one should ever come from elsewhere to govern our country.

We have the primary responsibility to offer supplications and prayers for our country. We must do all these ourselves. This is who we are, as the great people of Zimbabwe.

The CCC leader President Nelson Chamisa has castigated the Harare regime for unleashing terror against defenceless citizens.

Addressing the media after visiting injured CCC members Womberaiishe Nhende and Sonele Mukhuhlani at a private clinic, President Chamisa condemned Zanu PF hooliganism.

In a statement CCC said :

Today, President #NelsonChamisa visited the youth task force members, Womberaishe and Sanele at a local hospital in Harare.

The two are victims of abduction and torture by the regime in Harare. The regime’s actions, including the arrests of the lawyers representing them, have created a somber atmosphere in post-election Zimbabwe.

It is evident that there is no freedom after making a choice, even after a flawed and fraudulent election conducted by ZEC.

Former Zanu PF MP for Chivi South Constituency, Killer Zivhu has pointed out that there are no permanent foes in politics.

This follows the Zanu PF leader, Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa’s reunion with former First Lady Grace Mugabe at the former’s inauguration in Harare on Monday.

Zivhu challenged young people to work for themselves instead of being used by politicians to advance individual interests.

The 2023 Harmonised General Elections have come and gone. I once again thank you, my fellow Zimbabweans, for dutifully preserving and safeguarding our national unity and peace, before, during and after the elections. Ndinokutendai mhuri ye Zimbabwe. Ngiyalibonga muli yeZimbabwe.

As Zimbabwe, we have demonstrated that we are a mature democracy. The people of this precious nation, which is born out of the sacred blood of those who fought for our independence, freedom, democracy and indeed the right to vote, have spoken.

Our unparalleled conduct before, during and after the electoral processes is praiseworthy and will be an everlasting standard and benchmark as we continue to deepen and entrench constitutional democracy in our country. There are no losers, but a victory for the people of Zimbabwe against neo-colonial and hegemonic tendencies of our country’s detractors and those who believe that “might is right”.

In the enduring spirit of unity and peace that characterised this past election, I once again call upon all Zimbabweans to say no to violence, tribalism, regionalism, hate speech and other divisive tendencies. Peace, love, harmony and tolerance are in our DNA as a people.

Let us now turn our focus back to our collective duty and obligation to build, modernise and industrialise our country.

The quality of life of our people, from Zambezi to Limpopo, from Plumtree to Mutare must be improved. That duty lies with us all, as Zimbabweans, both here at home and in the Diaspora.

No one else will build our country. No one should ever come from elsewhere to govern our country.

We have the primary responsibility to offer supplications and prayers for our country. We must do all these ourselves. This is who we are, as the great people of Zimbabwe.

Nyika inovakwa, igotongwa, igonamatigwa, nevenevayo, Ilizwe lakhiwa, libuswe, likhulekelwe ngabanikazi balo.

Under the new ZANU PF Government and my leadership, rest assured that you, my fellow Zimbabweans and compatriots; boys and girls at home and abroad, shall continue to be at the centre of all our policies, projects and programmes.

We remain, forever; a Government from the people; by the people and for the people. The future of our great motherland, Zimbabwe, is bright.

The country’s senior men’s national soccer team —the Warriors, will play their 2026 World Cup qualifiers outside Zimbabwe, amid revelations that no stadium in the country is among the arenas cleared by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to host the matches.

Zimbabwe recently returned to international football community after FIFA lifted the suspension imposed the country and appointed a Normalisation Committe tasked with running the affairs of ZIFA until next year.

But all stadiums in the country were condemned by CAF for not having set international standards.

The ongoing renovations at the National Sports Stadium have not been completed on time and giant facility is not among the facilities listed to host matchday 1 and 2 of the qualifiers for the global spectale.

Matchday 1 qnd 2 of the qualifiers will be played between 13-21 November 2023.

Zimbabwe are in Group C, together with Nigeria, South Africa, Rwanda, Benin and Lesotho.

The Warriors will travel to Rwanda on matchday 1, before hosting the Super Eagles of Nigeria on matchday 2.

The Warriors will most likely play their home matches in South Africa, as the Rainbow nation has seven stadiums approved to host the qualifiers —FNB Stadium (Johannesburg), Orlando Stadium (Johannesburg), Mbombela Stadium (Neispruit), Royal Bafokeng Stadium (Rustenburg), Moses Mabhida Stadium (Durban), Cape Town Stadium (Cape Town) and Nelson Mandela Bay (Port Elizabeth).

However, the list of approved stadiums, according to CAF, is only for matchday 1 and 2, meaning the Warriors can still play home matches in the campaign, if the National Sports Stadium passes future inspections by the continental governing body.-Soccer24 News

The CCC leader President Nelson Chamisa has castigated the Harare regime for unleashing terror against defenceless citizens.

Addressing the media after visiting injured CCC members Womberaiishe Nhende and Sonele Mukhuhlani at a private clinic, President Chamisa condemned Zanu PF hooliganism.

In a statement CCC said :

Today, President #NelsonChamisa visited the youth task force members, Womberaishe and Sanele at a local hospital in Harare.

The two are victims of abduction and torture by the regime in Harare. The regime’s actions, including the arrests of the lawyers representing them, have created a somber atmosphere in post-election Zimbabwe.

It is evident that there is no freedom after making a choice, even after a flawed and fraudulent election conducted by ZEC.

Former Zanu PF MP for Chivi South Constituency, Killer Zivhu has pointed out that there are no permanent foes in politics.

This follows the Zanu PF leader, Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa’s reunion with former First Lady Grace Mugabe at the former’s inauguration in Harare on Monday.

Zivhu challenged young people to work for themselves instead of being used by politicians to advance individual interests.

It is my distinguished honour and privilege to be addressing you my fellow Countrymen and Women as well as friends of our beloved motherland, Zimbabwe at this auspicious occasion. Allow me, on behalf of the people of Zimbabwe, my Party ZANU PF, and indeed on my own behalf and that of my family, to express my deep gratitude for the kind messages of congratulations we have received following our elections.

In the same spirit, I warmly welcome the various delegations, from the SADC region, Africa, and beyond, who are joining us today for this inauguration ceremony. Your presence attests to the long-standing solidarity and support, Zimbabwe has enjoyed from the progressive members of the comity of nations which date back to the days of our protracted 16-year war of liberation for our Independence and freedom.

The 2023 Harmonised General Elections have come and gone. I once again thank you, my fellow Zimbabweans, for dutifully preserving and safeguarding our national unity and peace, before, during and after the elections. Ndinokutendai mhuri ye Zimbabwe. Ngiyalibonga muli yeZimbabwe.

As Zimbabwe, we have demonstrated that we are a mature democracy. The people of this precious nation, which is born out of the sacred blood of those who fought for our independence, freedom, democracy and indeed the right to vote, have spoken.

Our unparalleled conduct before, during and after the electoral processes is praiseworthy and will be an everlasting standard and benchmark as we continue to deepen and entrench constitutional democracy in our country. There are no losers, but a victory for the people of Zimbabwe against neo-colonial and hegemonic tendencies of our country’s detractors and those who believe that “might is right”.

Counter-revolutionary forces and their proxies will never prevail in our free mother country, Zimbabwe.

Let us now look ahead with unflinching focus and determination, emboldened by our rich history as a resilient, warrior people.

We continue to defy the onslaught of the illegal sanctions as well as the negative narratives peddled by those bent on stunting our country’s development.

Our strength in our diverse cultures, capacities and competencies has seen us realise unprecedented successes towards Vision 2030.

Zimbabwe is surely on the rise. Our national development philosophy, Nyika inovakwa, igotongwa, igonamatigwa, nevene vayo, Ilizwe lakhiwa, libuswe, likhulekelwe ngabanikazi balo, shall continue to be the beacon of our pro-people policies, anchored on Pan-African values and norms. This philosophy sums up our sovereignty as well as the collective duty and obligation we have to develop our country and the African continent.

Fellow Compatriots;

Today, I have once again taken an oath as a humble servant leader and President, committed to wholeheartedly serving you all, the people of our great motherland, Zimbabwe.

Under this renewed mandate, I have re-committed to continue faithfully upholding and defending our sacred national Constitution and laws, with integrity and impartiality, leaving no one and no place behind.

I stand before you my fellow Zimbabweans, at this historic moment of our nation as President of all Zimbabweans, regardless of tribe, religion, colour, creed, or political persuasion. I am honoured by the trust and confidence you have reposed in me to continue to serve in the office of President. Through your democratic vote, you have renewed and extended my mandate and that of our colossal revolutionary mass Party, ZANU PF.

I offer to you, individually and collectively, unity, love, oneness and brotherhood, as the people of the great, unitary and independent state of Zimbabwe.

Fellow Compatriots, Comrades and Friends;

My new Government will deliver on the promises we have made to you. The transformation of the living standards of our people, especially those in rural communities, will be accelerated, while the concerns of those in urban areas will not be neglected.

Responsive policies, projects and programmes, which begun during the first term of my Presidency are on course to lift many more people, out of poverty and into prosperity.

The hurdles such as the illegal, heinous sanctions and machinations of our detractors must be knocked out of our way through unity of purpose, hard honest work, innovativeness, resilience, focus and determination. Together as a united people, all challenges can be overcome; brick by brick, stone upon stone, and step by step.

The ongoing success milestones in the agriculture sector will be consolidated during this new term under my leadership. To date, we are food secure in both maize and wheat. All the agriculture sub-sectors have realised unprecedented growth. I commend our farmers as well as stakeholders in the agriculture sector for these achievements. This is indisputable evidence of the success of our Land Reform Programme and the responsive pro-people policies of the Second Republic.

Going forward, my new Government will prioritise guaranteeing this momentum through household and national food security.

The construction of dams, accelerated irrigation development, coupled with the ongoing borehole drilling programme, in every village and school, is set to insulate our agriculture sector from climate change induced weather fluctuations.

Vulnerable districts and areas are now the critical focus.

Rural Development will be implemented at full scale through robust rural agriculture industrialisation models.

This will result in our 35,000 villages country-wide, having productive agro-based companies, owned and run by the benefiting communities. The programme will see a multi-fold increase in rural incomes and sustainable livelihoods.

Concurrent with this thrust is the setting up of rural industries and systems designed to process, value add, beneficiate as well as export agricultural produce. Untapped opportunities exist for more of our people to penetrate the global markets and value chains through quality ‘Made in Zimbabwe’ goods and products.

The success of our agriculture sector has ripple effects to our agro-based manufacturing sector and Industrial base.

The factories that we all desire can only succeed if there is the requisite through-put from agriculture and mining, among other sectors. Therefore, I call upon us to respect each other as a united people, no matter where we live or our economic activities.

Comrades and Friends;

The past five years have delivered valuable lessons on our intricate economy, especially the fact that a national currency that is supported by a vibrant productive sector is indispensable to sustainable development. No country has ever developed without its own currency. Further, we can only develop and grow the economy based on our own internal resources.

I urge us all to believe in ourselves and our abilities, as Zimbabweans and Africans. Development and national prosperity based on what we have is more sustainable and durable. We must take pride in who we are and what we can do for ourselves.

The numerous mineral resources in our country must be sustainably exploited to leap-frog our industrialisation and development. The lives of our citizens and the fortunes of our country as a whole must be improved. We expect nothing less.

Our economy must realise maximum benefits from increased beneficiation and value addition. As such, my new Administration, through the Responsible Mining Initiative, will ensure greater stewardship over our finite natural resources. These must benefit both present and future generations.

Riding on our abundant resources, as well as skilled and hard-working people, Zimbabwe is poised to take its place as a competitive manufacturing jurisdiction.

I exhort industry and commerce stakeholders to be patriotic and always seek an intricate balance between profit and the plight of our people. Profiteering,opportunistic tendencies and greed, will not move our country forward.

Together, let us grow our country’s manufacturing base, to use, consume and wear what we produce.

The new Government shall continue to foster a predictable business environment, where capital is safe. Those who want to invest in our country are welcome, based on respect and mutual benefits, for shared prosperity.

Distinguished Guests, Ladies and Gentlemen;

The modernisation of our national infrastructure, utilities and amenities will continue unabated. Transport inter-connectivity within provinces and further linking us to the rest of the SADC region and the Continent are a priority.

The internal capacities and local skills in road construction that have been developed over the last five years will be deployed to further modernise our road network.

Agreements and investments to modernise, repair and expand our rail system will be consummated to allow urgent revitalisation of the sector.

Water is life and a solution not only to sustainable food security and sovereignty but also for the water and sanitation needs of our fast growing urban populations. Gwayi-Shangani and Kunzvi Dams, which are set to meet the needs of Bulawayo and Harare Metropolitan Provinces, are scheduled to be completed soon.

During the last five year-term, my Administration delivered energy self-suffiency to our country. Courtesy of our comprehensive, strategic partnership with the People’s Republic of China, Hwange Unit 7 and Unit 8 are now on stream.

We will now move on to upgrade Hwange Unit 1 to Unit 6, among other national strategic power generation stations.

Additional work is continuing towards broadening our energy mix, inclusive of renewable energy, to increase the total energy output, in tandem with the demand created by our fast growing economy.

The recovery and growth of the tourism sector in the post COVID-19 pandemic era, is testimony that Zimbabwe is a safe and competitive tourism destination. The joint marketing of brand Zimbabwe with both regional and continental partnerships is critical to sustain growth in the sector.

The economic role of SMEs, women and youth, as key players in our quest to realise Vision 2030 is set to receive due attention.

My new Government shall further consolidate the achievements in the health and education sectors for quality health delivery and education, especially for those in our country-side. Resources will be availed to equip and modernise the numerous schools and clinics constructed during the last five years. The requisite resources will be channelled towards the commercialisation of start-ups developed in our Innovation Hubs and Heritage-Based Education 5.0. Industrial Parks under

Matters related to housing delivery, water sanitation, among other social amenities remain key to the modern, empowered, and prosperous Zimbabwe we all want and deserve. I call upon those elected at the local government levels to wholeheartedly serve the people of our great country.

Our citizens, especially those in urban areas have endured poor service delivery for far too long. Rate payers deserve hard working and competent local authorities who will ensure that our towns and cities

regain their long-lost pride and lustre, through world class service delivery.

Going into the future, those in the arts, sports and creative cultural industries will be supported to express their talents. However, the fraternity is called upon to promote and protect our Zimbabwean values, African culture as well as our Christian-oriented family traditions and norms. Never use the arts or media to promote self-hate and divisions in our nation.

Meanwhile, I express my profound gratitude to our traditional leaders, who are the custodians of our land and culture, together with the religious community who joined the crusade to preach peace, love and harmony in our nation. The institution of traditional leadership and freedom of worship will continue to be protected by my new Government.

Comrades and Friends;

Under my leadership and the new ZANU PF Government, democracy, good governance, the rule of law and the politics of tolerance will be entrenched, in line with the spirit and letter of our sacred national Constitution and laws.

We make no apologies for entrenching and protecting our unique Zimbabwean values, cultures and norms. In this regard, I challenge us all to remain Zimbabwean and African, in both thoughts and deeds.

Zimbabwe is a sovereign state and “a friend to all and enemy of none”. Our membership and engagement within SADC, the African Union and United Nations and other countries in the comity of nations remain guided by the principles of mutual respect and the sovereign equality of nations, as enshrined in the United Nations Charter.

The undermining of our national institutions and laws will not be condoned, under whatever guise. No country or group of persons should disregard the sovereign decisions and views of the people of our motherland, Zimbabwe.

We will never be second class citizens in our own country. We stand ready to welcome those nations who want to work with the new ZANU PF Government to build lasting partnerships to make the world a better place.

We look forward to joining both traditional and emerging global institutions who accept our hand of friendship.

The architecture and composition of the United Nations Security Council must be reformed to reflect democracy at a global level as well as the equality of nations.

Our country is committed to playing its part for the realisation of global peace and security, anchored on dialogue and the peaceful resolution of conflict.

Fellow Zimbabweans; Comrades and Friends;

In concluding, allow me to once again commend, you the people of our great motherland, Zimbabwe, for the successful, watershed, peaceful, free, fair, transparent and credible Harmonised General Elections.

We have shamed our detractors who predicted and clandestinely financed mayhem, expecting the worst from us, before, during and after our polls.

The will of the Zimbabwean people has been expressed and must be respected.

In unity we have defended this sacred land, bequeathed to us by our great heroes and heroines.

They paid for the democracy, independence and sovereignty we are enjoying today, with their precious lives. This thunderous victory for our sovereignty, dignity and right to be masters of our own destiny is in their honour.
