By- A South African pastor and politician, John Myaka was shot and killed while preaching to his congregants at his church in Nseleni Township, Richards Bay. The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon.
Mkaya, is also an African Christian Democratic Party councillor.
The mayor of Umhlathuze Municipality, Xolani Ngwezi, expressed his deep sorrow and shock at Myaka’s tragic passing. He said on Wednesday:
It is with deep sorrow and shock that the City of Umhlathuze announces the tragic passing of councillor Myaka, who was also a respected pastor. He played an integral role as part of the coalition government led by the Inkatha Freedom Party. His dedication, commitment and unwavering service to the community will be deeply missed. Despite numerous attempts to lure him with bribes and promises of the mayoral position, he remained steadfast in his dedication to serving the community and resisted any form of corruption. Eyewitnesses reported that he was shot by an assailant while in the midst of delivering his sermon. Two other gunmen who were present at the scene quickly fled. The municipality is cooperating fully with law enforcement agencies as they investigate this heinous act.
City of uMhlathuze communications manager Bongani Gina said witnesses reported that a man shot Myaka while he was giving his sermon.
Empangeni police are investigating the incident as a case of murder. Police spokesperson Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo said:
It is alleged that the deceased was at church when he was shot.
Gina said the speaker of uMhlathuze Municipality, councillor Tobias Gumede, led a delegation of councillors who went to pay tribute to the Myaka family in eNseleni on Wednesday morning.
Gun violence is a significant problem in South Africa, with high levels of gun-related crimes such as murder, assault, and robbery. This issue results from various factors, including organised crime, gang violence, and a culture of violence. Illegal firearms and gun trafficking also contribute to the problem.
By Munyaradzi Mugomeza| In Zimbabwe, a nation once heralded as the breadbasket of Africa, the hope for true democracy remains under siege. The ruling ZANU-PF party’s persistent harassment of opposition leaders and supporters, coupled with violence and the suppression of constitutional freedoms, paints a bleak picture of a country struggling to uphold democratic principles. These systematic violations not only erode the rights of individuals but also undermine the integrity of institutions meant to safeguard those rights.
Prominent opposition figures have frequently been the target of state harassment and arbitrary arrests. Nelson Chamisa, leader of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), has faced relentless intimidation, including the denial of permits for rallies and alleged surveillance by state agents.
In March 2023, several CCC members, including MP Job Sikhala, were arrested on charges widely seen as politically motivated. Sikhala, known for his vocal criticism of ZANU-PF, was detained without trial for months—a clear violation of his constitutional right to a fair and timely hearing.
Such cases reveal the government’s strategy to silence dissent through the misuse of law enforcement. The police, acting as an extension of the ruling party, have been accused of selectively enforcing the law, targeting opposition members while ignoring transgressions by ZANU-PF loyalists.
State-sponsored violence against opposition supporters is another critical issue. During the 2018 elections, post-election protests in Harare were met with brutal military force, resulting in the death of six civilians.
Reports from human rights organizations, including Amnesty International, highlight that these killings were neither investigated nor prosecuted, signaling impunity for state actors involved in such atrocities.
In rural areas, opposition supporters often face intimidation from traditional leaders aligned with ZANU-PF. Stories of villagers being forced to attend ruling party rallies under threat of eviction from their homes are commonplace.
This creates a culture of fear, suppressing political participation and consolidating ZANU-PF’s dominance.
The judiciary, an institution meant to be a bulwark against tyranny, has been criticized for its lack of impartiality in Zimbabwe. Judges have frequently ruled in favor of the government in politically charged cases, raising questions about their independence. For instance, during the 2018 presidential election dispute, the Constitutional Court dismissed Chamisa’s petition challenging the election results despite substantial evidence of irregularities. Critics argue that the ruling exemplified a judiciary unwilling to hold the executive accountable.
Furthermore, recent bans on opposition gatherings have been upheld by courts under dubious pretexts, such as public health concerns. These rulings often ignore constitutional guarantees of freedom of assembly and speech, effectively granting ZANU-PF unchecked authority to stifle opposition activity.
Freedom of expression, enshrined in Zimbabwe’s Constitution, has become a casualty of the state’s authoritarian tactics. Independent journalists and media outlets face constant threats, with some reporters arrested for covering opposition events. The draconian Cyber Security and Data Protection Act has been weaponized to criminalize dissenting voices on social media.
In one alarming instance, journalist Hopewell Chin’ono was arrested multiple times for his outspoken criticism of government corruption and human rights abuses. His prolonged detention without trial became a symbol of the regime’s intolerance for dissent.
The international community has not remained silent in the face of these abuses. Organizations such as Human Rights Watch and the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights have condemned the Zimbabwean government’s actions. However, condemnation alone has proven insufficient to bring about meaningful change.
Zimbabweans themselves, particularly civil society groups, have shown resilience in resisting repression. Movements like #ThisFlag and #ZimbabweanLivesMatter have amplified the plight of ordinary citizens, drawing global attention to the government’s authoritarian tactics.
The continued harassment, violence, and judicial complicity in Zimbabwe signal an urgent need for reform. A nation cannot claim to be democratic when opposition leaders are silenced, supporters live in fear, and fundamental freedoms are attacked with impunity.
ZANU-PF must be held accountable for these violations, both domestically and internationally. Zimbabweans deserve a government that respects their rights, protects their freedoms, and fosters an environment where political participation is not a dangerous act of defiance but a celebrated aspect of citizenship. Until these aspirations are realized, Zimbabwe will remain a democracy in name only, shackled by the chains of authoritarian rule.
By- Pretoria High Court has ruled against the deportation by Home Affairs Minister Aaron Motsoaledi of Zimbabweans on the Zimbabwean Exemption Permits.
This comes after the Helen Suzman Foundation challenged the decision by the South African government to terminate ZEPs.
The Pretoria High Court delivered its judgment on Wednesday after arguments in the matter were heard in April.
In its ruling, the high court has also declared the government’s November 2021 decision to grant a limited extension for the ZEP holders as unconstitutional and invalid.
It was found that the process was unfair in that Motsoaledi failed to consult ZEP holders.
The decision was, therefore, set aside by the court and as a result, the minister has been directed to reconsider the matter.
In addition, the court directed that ZEP shall remain valid for the next 12 months and further ruled that Home Affairs must allow holders to enter or depart from South Africa provided that they meet immigration requirements and have a valid passport.
Zimbabweans without the permit must not be arrested or deported during this period.
The department and other parties, who opposed the application, were ordered to pay the costs of the applicants – including the costs of two counsel.
Alongside the HSF, organisations such as ZEP Holders Association (Zepha), the Zimbabwe Immigration Federation and the All Truck Drivers Forum and Allied South Africa (ATDFASA) also took Motsoaledi to court in a bid to overturn the decision to scrap the special permits.
They argued that government’s decision to renew the ZEP will result in holders being undocumented due to the difficulty of obtaining alternative permits that would allow them to continue living and working in South Africa.
Earlier this month, Motsoaledi extended the ZEP deadline by six months to 31 December, citing a wave of visa and waiver applications from affected Zimbabwean nationals.
The initial deadline was 30 June.
According to the minister, the decision was taken to give the ZEP holders an opportunity to apply for one or other visas provided for in the Immigration Act, which they may qualify for.
Various organisations – including controversial Operation Dudula – have since accused Motsoaledi of failing to protect South Africans, saying the minister has “sold out” South Africans.
The ZEP has allowed tens of thousands of Zimbabweans to live, work and study in South Africa since 2009 as part of the Dispensation of Zimbabweans Project (DZP).
About 295 000 Zimbabweans applied and about 245 000 permits were issued at the time.

By A Correspondent| WestProp Holdings today unveiled its signature gate house at Pomona city signaling the commencement of the massive US$4 billion ‘city within a city development’.
CEO and founder of the Victoria Falls Stock exchange listed real estate company Mr Ken Sharpe was upbeat and sounded bullish when he headlined the colourful ceremony.
“We are now delivering the promised Pomona City. A city within a city. Today the 28th of June 2023 marks the start of that journey – the journey to create new development whose magnitude has never been seen in Zimbabwe,” he said.
The smart city development will use green energy and innovative services that include surveillance cameras and gadgets including electronic and cloud based access technology “aided by A1 and full solar green energy with batteries and a charge room to power the entire site 24/7”.
The futuristic development is premised on building hope and a city for the future where technology rules the world.Mr Sharpe said buying into the development was investing into a lifestyle community “where you live, work, shop and play” adding that in the event one decides to dispose of the property the selling proposition is premised on the lifestyle investment.
Mr Sharpe exuded confidence and clarity when he addressed legal issues dispelling fears that the development could be under threat.
“Your investment is solid. Those who have bought into this dream can be rest assured that the dream is now coming to fruition. In the past few weeks there have been a lot of stories surrounding this development.
“May I take this opportunity to calm your worries and get you excited for the good times ahead. We are all going to realise the big dream and surely re-live the dream of bringing Dubai to Zimbabwe,” he said.
Dubbed a city within a city because of its attributes that bring all urban aspects of live, work, shop and play into one community, Pomona City is set to be a major prototype development that would be copied and replicated by other developers.
World renowned architects were engaged to work on the masterplan and building structures making the development a fusion of cultures and very cosmopolitan.
The lifestyle community development combines use of technology, communal living spaces and unique social amenities that differentiate the estate from the traditional suburban designs.
The social amenities are exclusively reserved for the owners of properties to preserve privacy and uphold value.

Businessman Ewan Macmillan, one of the alleged gold smuggling and money laundering kingpins interviewed in the Qatar-based television news network Al Jazeera’s Gold Mafia documentary series, has apologised saying he made the remarks under the influence of alcohol.
This comes months after the 52-year-old merchant and several others, including Zimbabwe’s ambassador-at-large Uebert Angel were exposed in the news network’s sting operation claiming they could launder millions of US dollars on behalf of President Emmerson Mnangagwa and government as a sanctions-busting measure.
In a brief statement yesterday, Macmillan said: “I would like to apologise to my family, friends, fellow Zimbabweans and to all those people… offended (by) my behaviour and comments as shown in the recent Al Jazeera Gold Mafia series.
“I made many statements under the influence of alcohol that were boastful, untrue, derogatory and malicious that have caused harm to those around me, in business with me… industry that I had worked in… Zimbabwe banking and financial sectors, and those in important positions of authority..,” he said, adding he was “thoroughly embarrassed about the whole incident.”
While others named in the documentary have threatened to sue the Arabian broadcaster, government initially dismissed it as a smear campaign ahead of the August 23 poll.
Government later said it was investigating the matter to clear its name. Some of the alleged perpetrators had their bank accounts briefly frozen.
Zimbabwean Jesca Makusha Remembered for Her Courageous Battle with Cancer, GoFundMe Campaign Established to Honor Her Memory
By A Correspondent | In a heart-wrenching turn of events, Jesca Makusha Griffits, a 40-year-old Zimbabwean residing in the UK, lost her life on June 16th, 2023, following a short but fierce battle with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia. The news of her untimely passing has left her friends and loved ones devastated, prompting the establishment of a GoFundMe campaign to raise £5000 in her memory.
Jesca’s journey with cancer began when she started experiencing persistent fatigue, which persisted for eight excruciating months. Eventually, she received the devastating news of her terminal diagnosis, shaking the foundations of her world and causing profound sadness among those who knew and cared for her.
Despite the immense challenges posed by her illness, Jesca faced them with unwavering determination and an unyielding spirit. Throughout her ordeal, she clung to hope, buoyed by moments of light amidst the darkness—successful transplant procedures and two remission declarations. However, fate had a different plan, and Jesca ultimately lost her courageous battle.
Although Jesca did not have immediate family in the UK, her exceptional capacity for selflessness and love had brought her a tight-knit circle of devoted friends, formed through her work. These friends rallied together to support her, standing by her side through the difficult journey. Jesca’s remarkable qualities as a friend resonated deeply, as she extended her love and compassion not only to friends and family but also to strangers.
Jesca’s dedication to caring for others was evident in her exemplary work in various health and social care settings. Through hard work and determination, she fulfilled her dream of becoming a social worker, considering it a privilege to make a difference in her community. Even in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, Jesca selflessly provided her support, alleviating the strain on the overburdened healthcare system. Tragically, her mission was cut short when she received her diagnosis in March 2022.
Before her illness, Jesca had touched the lives of countless individuals and played a significant role in saving souls. Her impact on everyone she encountered was profound, and now, her friends are determined to ensure she receives the honorable and dignified farewell she deserves—an expression of the love she gave and the love she will forever inspire. Jesca was not only an incredible friend but also a cherished daughter and sister. Even in the midst of her own battles, she prioritized the needs of others, always wearing a smile and providing support and encouragement to ease their worries.
Jesca’s cremation will take place in England, with the specific service and cremation date yet to be confirmed. Following the cremation, her ashes will be returned to Zimbabwe, where her family will bid their final farewells and scatter her remains. The funds raised through the GoFundMe campaign will help alleviate the financial burden associated with the entire process.
In this time of need, Jesca’s friends humbly request the assistance of the community. Every contribution, regardless of its size, will make a tremendous difference in honoring Jesca’s memory. They also ask for your help in spreading the word about the campaign, sharing Jesca’s story, and ensuring that her legacy endures.
Together, let us remember Jesca Griffits, keeping her spirit alive and continuing the extraordinary love and compassion she brought to the world. The outpouring of support will forever be cherished by her friends and loved ones. Thank you for your generosity and kindness, which will serve as a lasting tribute to a remarkable individual who left an indelible mark on.
The High Court will Friday sit to hear an urgent application filed by Zanu PF activist, Lovedale Mangwana to have 2023 presidential candidate Saviour Kasukuwere disqualified from the race for allegedly breaching provisions of the constitution and the Electoral Act.
The matter will be heard by Justice David Mangota.
The exiled former cabinet minister and one-time Zanu PF political commissar is contesting the poll as an independent candidate.
But before he could have his campaign on track, Kasukuwere has to get the legality of his ambitious bid out of the way.
Mangwana is seeking an order setting aside the decision to accept the once influential politician’s nomination papers by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC).
He argues that this was done in violation of section 91 of the Constitution.
In his founding affidavit, Mangwana also said the Electoral Act does not allow a candidate who has been out of the country for over 18 months to contest for president.
“I submit that the decision to accept first respondent’s nomination paper is in breach of section 91 (1) (d) of the Constitution and invalid,” he said.
The activist said it is public record that Kasukuwere has been away for over a year.
He further challenges the politician to prove him wrong.
Mangwana said he has also written to ZEC complaining about the matter but was advised to approach the Electoral Court within four days of the sitting of the Nomination Court.
Kasukuwere struck enmity with then Vice President Mnangagwa when he fronted a Zanu PF faction that was fiercely opposed to the now Zimbabwe incumbent’s spirited maneuvers to succeed then President Robert Mugabe during the pinnacle of the party’s succession wars back in 2017.
His efforts were derailed by a bloodless military coup against Mugabe November 2017 in place of his nemesis.
Kasukuwere’s return from exile has been stifled by threats of prosecution over a slew of criminal charges levelled against him by the Mnangagwa regime.
He allegedly committed the offences during his tenure as cabinet minister.
There are suggestions Mnangagwa could have a vested interest in Mangwana’s challenge against Kasukuwere’s legitimacy as a candidate amid fears he could chip away at the Zimbabwe leader’s support base.
Commissioner Ourveena Geereesha Topsy-Sonoo, the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Expression and Access to Information has written to President Emmerson Mnangagwa, advising him against signing the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Amendment Bill into law.
Commissioner Topsy-Sonoo warned that the Bill, popularly known as the Patriot Bill will have far-reaching consequences on freedom of expression and association in Zimbabwe if signed into law.
In a letter to President Mnangagwa last week, the Commissioner advised that the proposed law will have the effect of curtailing the exercise of rights such as media freedom and freedom of expression, the right to privacy, access to information, freedom of conscience, political rights, freedom to demonstrate and petition, and freedom of assembly and association.
The Patriot Bill, Commissioner Topsy-Sonoo said, will potentially cripple the work and mandate of non-governmental organisations.
“This will affect the work of human rights-related organisations whose task is to observe and seek redress on human rights violations most of which are committed by state and non-state actors. This conflict between the government and human rights civil society will severely shrink, if not kill civic space,” she said.
She warned that the Bill will severely infringe the right to privacy, as it has the potential of
creating further avenues for surveillance, tracking of internet usage and accessing of private communication records.
On 31 May 2023, the National Assembly passed the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Amendment Bill, with the Senate subsequently following suit.
The Bill is now awaiting Presidential assent before it becomes law.
The Patriot Bill follows on the heels of the Private Voluntary Organisations Amendment Bill, which is also awaiting presidential assent before it comes into effect.
Both Bills have been criticised as having a chilling effect on freedom of assembly, the right to free expression and the right to privacy, among other rights.
Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) president Nelson Chamisa says the political environment in Zimbabwe is not “normal” or conducive for the holding of elections in under two months and called his rival a “loser”.
Chamisa, who fronts the biggest opposition party in the country, is again seen as the biggest challenge to President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s bid for a second term after the 2018 poll which was settled by the courts.
In a televised interview with South African Broadcasting Corporation on Sunday this week, Chamisa pleaded with Southern African Development Community (Sadc) to facilitate a peaceful poll.
Tensions are raising with each passing day after the Zanu-PF leader told supporters in Chipinge on Saturday that the party would not relinquish power and that it was “unstoppable”.
“Don’t you know that losers are bold even in the face of defeat, what do you want him (Mnangagwa) to say? The writing is on the wall, he has failed in all the terms, economy, look at the inflation, the level of corruption, Gold Mafia, Zimbabwe is in a difficult situation,” Chamisa responded in the interview.
“We (Zimbabwe) are a headache to South Africa, Malawi, Zambia and Botswana. We are a headache to our neighbours. That is why we are calling to Sadc to intervene.
“We are calling Sadc to support a peaceful election which is free and fair. Zimbabwe is not in a normal environment for elections. We will win against all odds.”
Chamisa alleged that the voters roll was being changed regularly and that as a party they were yet to receive a copy.
The opposition party has alleged intimidation by the Zanu-PF-linked affiliate Forever Associates Zimbabwe (Faz) in rural areas.
Meanwhile, CCC spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere said the party was planning to launch its campaign for the elections this week.
“This week, we look to the future with hope as we prepare to launch the biggest citizens campaign seen this side of the continent, no amount of forgery, dirty (tricks) or desperation from Zanu-PF will stop change,” Mahere said in the party’s internal Daily Digest.
She said CCC was excited with the new ways they were conducting their programmes.
“You see the bulk of our candidates are new faces who will bring new ideas in Parliament, in the next few weeks you are going to see them in your communities,” she said.
“The nomination court is over and we successfully filed for 210 Parliamentary candidates and over 1 920 council candidates.”
Mahere accused the ruling Zanu-PF of trying to discourage CCC members from voting.
“There are people who are trying to discourage the citizens not to vote, they should be ignored. Advocate Nelson Chamisa has said we are the next government, let’s choose change, credibility, let’s inspire and go and vote,” she said.

The MDC-T on Tuesday lost its bid to force the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) to register 87 of its aspiring MPs who were rejected by the nomination court on June 21 after failing to pay candidate fees.
Justice Webster Chinamhora of the Harare High Court, sitting as an Electoral Court, said he had no jurisdiction to deal with the matter.
“Having upheld the argument (by ZEC) of lack of jurisdiction, I will not address the other points. I will strike the matter off the roll with no order as to costs,” the judge said after the MDC-T had filed an urgent application.
ZEC lawyer Tawanda Kanengoni said the procedure to be followed was that candidates dissatisfied with decisions of the nomination officer file an appeal to the Electoral Court within four days, and not do so as a party, or as an urgent chamber application.
“The application cannot be entertained by this court. The application is made by the MDC-T. It’s not made by a candidate. The party has no right to challenge the nomination of candidates. All 87 of these persons that are mentioned have concurrently filed an appeal before this court and it is pending. One would then wonder why the applicants who demonstrate full understanding would pursue the current application and ask this court to sit twice to determine the same issues,” Kanengoni argued.
The MDC-T, represented by Prof Lovemore Madhuku, had maintained that the matter was properly before the judge, arguing that “we know in terms of the Electoral Act that there are candidates and sponsoring parties.”
“Here you have a political party and the route that they have taken is properly provided for. The Electoral Court must deal with all matters. The right of appeal does not take away other rights of access to this court. Section 161 of the Electoral Act says that this court cannot try criminal cases. That exclusion must be the only exclusion that is allowed in this court. The political party can approach this court,” Madhuku vainly argued.
Nomination courts rejected 87 of the MDC-T’s candidates after the party tried a system of “centralised payment” where it wanted to pay ZEC for all its candidates in one transaction, instead of giving money to individual candidates in the same way that other parties did. Candidates for MP were required to pay US$1,000 or the equivalent in Zimbabwe dollars.
The party has not said how many candidates successfully filed papers to run for council or MP. Insiders said “about seven” successfully filed nomination papers in Matebeleland North.
Party spokesman Witness Dube told the Voice of America’s Studio 7 on Tuesday: “Our candidate nomination issue has not succeeded in court. We maintain a little bit of hope because there is another court process initiated, but we have to concede that our chances of rescuing the situation are diminishing.
“We disagree strongly with how ZEC has dealt with our matter. But with the benefit of hindsight, one must say that perhaps if our candidates had money on them, or means to pay as individuals on the day, we would not be having this problem. It’s an important lesson for our party and our leaders that matters like these must be dealt with in a much, much better way next time.”
Zimbabweans vote in genera elections on August 23. The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission said it intends to publish final list of candidates by June 30.
By- Zanu PF party and its Presidential candidate Emmerson Mnangagwa is heading for an embarrassing defeat to the opposition because of the failing economy and high inflation the ruling party has failed to address for two decades.
Mnangagwa last week launched his campaign for a second term promising to revive the collapsed economy despite being at its helm since 1980.
Mnangagwa, seeking re-election amid a raging economic crisis characterised by high inflation and a plummeting currency, vowed to develop infrastructure, power generation, and the mining economy. He stated that his government had made progress in these areas, with hopes of generating $12 billion in mining revenue by 2023. He said while addressing a large crowd of supporters in Chipinge, about 500 km (311 miles) east of the capital Harare at the weekend:
ZANU-PF is unstoppable. It will continue governing Zimbabwe as other parties continue to split assunder.
We fought for our democracy, no one will stop us.
We are building roads and dams and recently we started installing solar boreholes in every village across the country.
Mnangagwa’s strongest challenger is expected to be the 45-year-old pastor and lawyer Nelson Chamisa, the leader of the Citizens Coalition for Change party, who gained considerable support in towns and cities.
However, Mnangagwa remains confident in his party’s ability to lead Zimbabwe, stating that ZANU-PF is “unstoppable” and will continue to govern Zimbabwe as other parties “split asunder.” The election is scheduled for August 23rd and comes amid criticism of Mnangagwa’s government for allegedly closing the democratic space.
The election comes amid a raging economic crisis, with high inflation and a currency that plunged more than 50% this month against the U.S. dollar.

English Premier League football star and Aston Villa captain, John McGinn, has embarked on a holiday adventure in Zimbabwe. The Scottish international, who is also the captain of the Scotland national team, arrived at Victoria Falls International airport on Tuesday afternoon, accompanied by his wife, Sara Stokes.
McGinn’s visit to Zimbabwe was made possible through an invitation extended by his Aston Villa teammate and Zimbabwean international, Marvelous Nakamba. The purpose behind this invitation is to showcase Zimbabwe’s most renowned tourist attraction, the majestic Victoria Falls, and promote the country as a desirable destination for travelers.
The football star wasted no time in immersing himself in the natural wonders of Zimbabwe. He took to his Instagram page to share stunning photos and videos of himself and his wife embarking on a thrilling safari game drive. McGinn captioned one of his posts with, “Wasn’t on the bucket list but should’ve been. Unreal.” It is evident that the couple was captivated by the breathtaking sights and experiences they encountered during their adventure.
The game drive provided them with remarkable wildlife sightings, including herds of elephants, zebras, a giraffe, lions, a white rhino, a hyena, and even the rare sight of a leopard. The encounter with such diverse and awe-inspiring animals undoubtedly left a lasting impression on McGinn and his wife.
The presence of high-profile individuals like John McGinn in Zimbabwe helps promote the country’s tourism industry on an international scale. The visit serves as an opportunity to showcase the natural beauty, wildlife, and adventure opportunities that Zimbabwe has to offer. By sharing his experiences through social media, McGinn is contributing to the marketing efforts to attract more tourists to this incredible destination.
Furthermore, McGinn’s visit is not an isolated event. It is anticipated that more players from Aston Villa will join him in Zimbabwe by the end of the week. This collective presence of English Premier League stars will undoubtedly generate significant attention and further bolster Zimbabwe’s appeal as a travel hotspot.
Zimbabwe has a rich history of attracting international entertainment and sporting icons to its shores. Notable figures like the late King of Pop, Michael Jackson, have previously visited the iconic Victoria Falls. McGinn’s visit now adds to the list of influential individuals who have been drawn to the natural wonder and grandeur of this UNESCO World Heritage Site.
As John McGinn continues his holiday adventure in Zimbabwe, he not only enjoys a well-deserved break but also helps raise awareness of the country’s tourism potential. His visit, along with that of his Aston Villa teammates, serves as a testament to the appeal and allure of Zimbabwe’s natural treasures, reinforcing the nation’s position as a must-visit destination for travelers seeking unforgettable experiences amidst stunning landscapes and abundant wildlife.- State Media
Zimbabwean banks faced significant challenges in acquiring foreign currency during the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe’s (RBZ) wholesale foreign currency auction yesterday, as the market grappled with a severe Zimbabwe dollar liquidity crunch. Only one-third of the available foreign currency, amounting to US$10 million, was purchased by banks for onward sale to their clients out of the US$30 million on offer.
The RBZ introduced the wholesale auction as a measure to enable banks to acquire forex on behalf of their clients. It had previously guaranteed a minimum of US$15 million per week to inject liquidity into the foreign exchange market. However, the ongoing liquidity crunch in the Zimbabwean dollar undermined the banks’ ability to participate fully in the auction.
Over the past two months, authorities implemented several interventions to stabilize the exchange rate and mitigate the rapid depreciation of the Zimbabwe dollar, which had triggered substantial price increases. These measures included transferring external payment obligations from the RBZ to the Treasury, making most duties payable in the local currency, and raising the bank policy rate from 140 percent to 150 percent.
Last week, the Treasury announced additional measures aimed at promoting the use of the domestic currency, such as the payment of all corporate taxes in the local currency. For the June 2023 Quarterly Payment Date (QPD), taxpayers are required to settle 50 percent of the foreign currency portion of their corporate tax obligations in local currency. The government emphasized that it would not accept payments in US dollars or any other foreign currency for the local currency portion of corporate income tax due in the June QPD.
Market reports indicate that banks have been struggling to secure sufficient Zimbabwe dollar funding to purchase more than US$1 million at any given time since the introduction of the wholesale auction. This limited access to funds has affected their ability to participate fully in the auction and meet the demands of their clients for foreign currency.
Economist Tinevimbo Shava acknowledged the impact of demand-driving policies, stating that reduced demand would likely lead to a drop in the exchange rate. Shava expressed support for the initiative, suggesting that under the prevailing conditions, the exchange rate could settle around $5,000 to $6,000 per US dollar.
Lawrence Nyazema, President of the Bankers Association of Zimbabwe (BAZ), explained that the recent withdrawal of excess local currency from the market through fiscal and monetary measures had contributed to the scarcity of Zimbabwe dollars. Tax obligations being payable in the local currency increased demand, compelling US dollar earners to liquidate their foreign currency earnings.
Nyazema commended the current Dutch Auction System, stating that it had brought about a constant supply of foreign currency in excess of demand on the official market. He expressed satisfaction that the measures had encouraged those earning in foreign currency to contribute to the stability of the foreign exchange market by liquidating some of their proceeds.
Economist Dr. Prosper Chitambara emphasized the positive impact of creating demand for the local currency. He believed that requiring companies to settle their tax obligations in the local currency would enhance its value and stabilize the exchange rate.
As the Zimbabwean government continues its efforts to stabilize the foreign exchange market, the liquidity crunch and limited access to foreign currency pose significant challenges for banks. The success of the wholesale auction system will depend on addressing the liquidity constraints and ensuring a consistent supply of foreign currency to meet the demands of the market.-Agencies
Suspect Accused of Fatally Assaulting Man at Night Club Appears in Court.
Harare, June 28, 2023 – Calisto Murawo (44), the suspect involved in the alleged murder of another man following an argument over a car park incident at a night club in Belgravia, Harare, made his first appearance in court today. Murawo stood before Harare magistrate Mrs Yeukai Dzuda, where he was not asked to enter a plea to the murder charges brought against him.
The court remanded Murawo in custody until July 12 and advised him to seek bail from the High Court. The accused will remain in custody until the bail hearing.
According to the allegations presented in court, the incident occurred on June 24 at the Afro 161 Restaurant and Night Club located at number 161 Sam Nujoma Street Extension in Belgravia, Harare. Calisto Murawo approached the victim, whose identity remains undisclosed, and his wife, Zinzi Musonza, in the club’s car park. Murawo allegedly accused Musonza of bumping into another parked car nearby.
In response to the accusation, the deceased exited his vehicle to inspect the alleged dent. As he examined the car, Murawo reportedly struck him on the mouth using a knuckle duster worn on his hand. Subsequently, the suspect proceeded to kick the victim in the head and neck area. The assault escalated further when Murawo stomped on the deceased’s neck. After a brief pause in the attack, the suspect returned to the victim and declared his intention not to leave, delivering another kick to the head.
Emergency services were called to the scene, and the severely injured victim was rushed to a nearby hospital. Tragically, the medical professionals at the hospital pronounced him dead upon arrival.
The court hearing provided a preliminary account of the events surrounding the alleged murder, shedding light on the brutal assault that took place in the night club’s car park. As the legal proceedings progress, further evidence and testimonies will likely be presented to ascertain the full details of the incident.
The case has drawn significant attention due to the severity of the alleged crime and the tragic loss of life. The court’s decision to remand Calisto Murawo in custody until the next hearing reflects the seriousness of the charges against him. The upcoming bail application at the High Court will determine whether the suspect will remain detained or be released pending further legal proceedings.
As the case continues to unfold, the court system will work diligently to ensure a fair and thorough investigation, seeking justice for the victim and his family.

By- Harare has invited the European Union (EU) to witness the August 23 harmonised polls.
The Government has invited regional, continental and international bodies to come and observe the general elections.
Other bodies that have been invited include the African Union (AU), Sadc, COMESA and the Commonwealth.
Writing on his official Twitter handle yesterday, the EU’s Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Jobst Von Kirchmann, said the European bloc “warmly welcomes” the country’s invitation.
He said the invitation was a testament that Harare and Belgium continue to strengthen their cooperation on all fronts.
“The #EU warmly welcomes the invitation from the Government of #Zimbabwe to observe the harmonised elections of 2023 in Zimbabwe.
“This invitation clearly demonstrates the trust, cooperation, and partnership between #Zimbabwe and the #EU,” wrote Ambassador Von Kirchmann.
Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) vice chairperson, Ambassador Rodney Kiwa, yesterday told The Herald that the invitation was proof that the country was committed to holding free, fair and credible elections.
He said the invitation also speaks volumes about Zimbabwe’s preparedness as well as its transparency.
“I am aware that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade has extended this invitation (to observe our election) to a number of regional, continental and international organisations and individual countries, including the EU, all in the spirit of affirming our commitment to run a transparent, free and fair election as well as expressing the confidence we have in our preparedness to conduct such an election.”
Amb Kiwa said the electoral body would issue periodic updates while revealing that more than 50 locally based individuals and institutions had expressed interest in observing the polls.
“Invited are SADC, COMESA, the AU, the Commonwealth, to name but some. Please note that the UN does not observe elections. I do not have the numbers of those who have expressed interest yet but as of now locals (individuals and institutions) exceed 50. Will update you as we go,” he said.
The deadline for observer applications to ZEC is August 18, four days before election day.
Local observers will be charged a fee of US$10, observers from the rest of Africa US$100, those from foreign embassies in Zimbabwe US$300, and observers from any country outside Africa US$400.
For the media, local journalists pay US$10, Zimbabwean journalists accredited with the Zimbabwe Media Commission and working in Zimbabwe for foreign media houses will pay US$100, and media practitioners from Africa will be charged US$100.
All applications will be considered and are subject to scrutiny by the Commission’s Observer Accreditation Committee, which will pass on its recommendations to ZEC.

By- Zanu PF has hired the services of Mambo Dhuterere for its election campaign gingles and ditched the party’s praise singer Chief Shumba Hwenje.
Hwenje is known for the song “ED Pfee”, which became an anthem at ZANU PF rallies ahead of the 2018 elections.
He recently released an album cover art and tracklist for an album set to be released ahead of the elections.
The album titled “Special Branch” carries 10 tracks- ED Chete, More Fire, Huchi, Saka Uchaita Sei, State House, Shumba Ngavapinde, Ndomuvhotera Chete, Chakabatwa Kuti Dzvii, Mai Wellie, and Mpela Mpela.
According to the Standard reported Hwenje was informed that Mambo Dhuterere was going to be the official campaign praise singer and is set to release an album ahead of the elections. Said the source in the Standard:
Hwenje was ready to entertain party supporters and also praise Mnangagwa.
He is a tried and tested musician and it came as a surprise that Mambo Dhuterere was going to take Hwenje’s place after all the preparations.
Mambo Dhuterere is set to release songs that praise Mnangagwa that will be used during ZANU PF’s campaign.
The musician has two yet-to-be-released songs that praise Mnangagwa.
One of them is titled “ZANU PF Kuwinner Mugariro” and another one features musician-cum politician Sandra Ndebele.
Ndebele is running for a municipal seat in Ward 20, Pelandaba-Tshabalala in Bulawayo under a ZANU PF ticket.
Pride Mkono, a political analyst and activist castigated musicians who get involved in politics for money. Said Mkono:
Most of these so-called musicians are opportunists and political activists of the ruling party hiding behind art.
It is an indictment that they have been trying to reinvent themselves through politics when most of their careers are all but done.
To them, joining politics is being part of the gravy train.
They want to eat with the elites who are oppressing and stealing from the masses.
Mambo Dhuterere launched his album “Nadah Pachiputukezi” in January 2023 at a ceremony that was held at the Harare International Conference Centre and graced by politicians, mainly from ZANU PF.
At the launch, the album was auctioned for US$30 000.
By Dr Masimba Mavaza- The clock is ticking the heart bits loudly with anxiety. Every second which passes puts us closer to 23 August. Elections come and go, but this election is the mother of
All elections. They come when our sovereignty is under attack. The freedom inscribed and forged in our hearts with blood and fire is threatened to be erased by the lies of traitors.
Zimbabweans, where ever we are, we need to guard our independence jealously with our own lives. Zimbabwe needs Continuity in government and in developing the country. We are on our way towards a middle-income economy by 2030. We do not need to change the winning team.
Zimbabweans must never advocate for change for the sake of change. Don’t bring change for the sake of change.
Change must not be disruptive. We will be within reach of the middle income by 2030.
The economic problems we face now are just passing. There is no miracle resuscitation of the economy as being said by CHAMISA that if he is given the country, he will change its fortunes in two days. This mantra is backward and akin to the prosperous gospel by fake prophets. The way CCC is being run shows clearly that CHAMISA has no strategy or at least he did not tell anyone about it if at all it is there. He has no plans and must never persuade you to change the government in exchange of no plans.
We can see that CCC has secretly romped in Tyson Kasukuwere. Tyson is merely being used to be disruptive and playing the role of a spoiler; remember, these are the JECHA boys in action.
Tyson is talking big. He spoke of corruption. He owns a house which has 40 bedrooms. He owns 40 houses. He talks of corruption, yet he can not account for his riches. It will be your alternative.
We must remember that ED has shown great statesmanship, and his developmental projects are there for all to see. The government is in touch and engaging with all players.
With the alternative being flighted in our faces, we have those who are backbiters who will surely do the same if you put them in power. Let’s look at the CCC. CHAMISA fires Biti, which shows manoeuvring between Chamisa and SaviourKasukuwere. CHAMISA had to drop Biti to accommodate Tyson. As we all heard in Tyson’s press statement, they are preparing for a coalition, a GNU. Biti will not be a player in parliament and government.
Biti has been stripped of his powers; we all know that you need a constituency to be strong in politics. If you have no constituency, you are an emperor without clothes. Why was Biti not protected? It is Chamisa’s character to dribble friends if he can dribble Tsvangirai Biti Mwonzora. What about you. This is a lesson and a warning to is that we must not rush to a change motivated by a cheat. A political cheat.
We need Continuity and improve the revenue There are projects which needs Continuity. ED has set the ball rolling and must be given a chance to finish what he has started.
What CHAMISA has brought in the coming elections is Tyson. Tyson is a spoiler. Who is out of touch? He runs for a mile, throws a punch and then asks why they are fighting. He is relying upon the same structures. He is saying they are corrupt. He is fishing from the fridge. He brings his fishing line from South Africa and only fishes from the refrigerator. This is a plan by CCC to divide ZANU PF but this has already failed.
The treachery by CHAMISA to those around him must tickle the alarm bells.
Do not forget that CHAMISA has promised to bring back the Whiteman so that our economy will develop. Do you know what he will do to you once his white man come? If you are not sure, ask Biti. Biti was sacrificed for a Whitman. If he can do that to Biti what about you?
We must bear in mind that Continuity of government (COG) is a coordinated effort within each of the executive, legislative, and judicial branches and the people to ensure that essential functions continue to be performed before, during, and after an election.
We must realize that there are Progressive Gains of Continuity in Governance in any state.
By giving ED the chance of Continuity we will have created a great opportunity to grow a very germane issue central to the growth and flourishing democracy in our country Zimbabwe. Continuity will make us venture into problems that can promote and enhance the development of Zimbabwe by advocating for Continuity in governance and, by extension, good governance as led and shown by the administration of ED Mnangagwa. The world community has identified these issues as necessary in modern times, particularly in developing countries such as Zimbabwe. There are gains and benefits inherent in Continuity in government.
While we recognize the magnitude of this daunting and herculean task, we will do our best within the few months allocated to give ED the chance to finish his dream for Zimbabwe.
We must find a way to ensure stability and Continuity in governance in Zimbabwe, which we sincerely require at this moment in the life of Zimbabwe.
There are significant gains and benefits in giving the government adequate time to remain in office to actualize its objectives, primarily where they have been known or seen to make positive impacts, like in the present dispensation in Zimbabwe. This is because governments worldwide exist to provide public goods, and where they are on track, like in the present dispensation in Zimbabwe, they require more time to actualize their development programmes and projects, transforming the entire landscape of Zimbabwe and impacting the lives of the citizenry. In only five years, MNANGAGWA has shown his passion for building Zimbabwe. He has told us that we all have a say in rebuilding our country. Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo.
Continuity is the unbroken and consistent existence or operation of something over time. Also, Continuity can be seen as the fact of something continuing for an extended period of time without being changed or stopped. In other words, Continuity means the state of continuing over time without change or interruption.
Governance has been variously defined as “the management of society by the people” and “the exercise of authority or control to manage a country’s affairs and resources. We must remember that governance is the exercise of economic, political and administrative authority to manage a country’s affairs at all levels. It comprises of the mechanisms, processes and institutions through which citizens and groups articulate their interests, exercise their legal rights, meet their obligations and mediate their differences. Governance means a more cooperative way of government, where state and non-state institutions, public and private actors, take part and often cooperate in public policy formulation and implementation; it leaves no one out. Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo.
In five years, MNANGAGWA has shown an efficient public service, a reliable judicial system, and an administration accountable to the public. He will continue to develop if he is given a second chance to develop.
According to the Bank’s definition, the key components of Good Governance include effectiveness and efficiency in public sector management, accountability and responsiveness of public officials to the citizenry, the rule of law and public access to information and transparency. This ED and his government did this without fail.
In summary, governance may be described as the processes, regulations or the results of interactions between the legislative and executive governments, the civil society, the judiciary, and the people.
It should be noted that good governance principles have been applied to different tiers of government, such as national, regional and local levels, yes, we had challenges with some few who abused their authority but the hand of the law is knocking on their doors.
Continuity in governance must be a situation of permitting the system of control of social, political and economic operations of an entity such as a state to remain unchanged for a reasonable period of time to be able to accomplish their programmes as well as desire change and development. In other words, it is a situation where those exercising authority are not unduly changed. They are allowed to stay in office to impact lives within an acceptable period.
There is, therefore a great Need for Continuity in Government in Zimbabwe. It should be emphasized that stability and Continuity are indispensable ingredients of growth development in contemporary times. As Zimbabweans, we must never be known for vengeance, abandoning projects our predecessors initiated and starting new ones.
There are a number of projects initiated by Dr. ED Mnangagwa’s government which should be continued. These development projects that litter the landscape of our state include:
Harare Beitbridge motorway. Harare Bulawayo Motorway. Harare Mutare Motorway.
Roads connecting all our cities and rural districts. This does not make for accelerated development. Some of these projects are about to be completed thanks to the commitment of huge resources by ED’s government. If the government that initiated those projects is allowed to continue for some more years those projects would not suffer neglect, abandonment and waste. This by implication calls for Continuity in governance.
The need for Continuity in governance is what politicians and all Zimbabweans in should embrace, imbibe and permit to operate. This is not a call for seat-tight government but a case for reasonable time to be given governments to be able to carry out realistic development projects that are inadequate in the country. One of the most important reasons why we need Continuity in government is that it promotes and enhance development in all its ramifications such as social, economic, cultural and physical development.
Besides the above, Continuity in governance promotes and enhances good governance. One of the commonest symptoms of underdeveloped and backward societies is poor governance. In the history of human organization and settlement development one of the factors that accounted for the growth of earlier cities was the existence of organized social groups that provide leadership for others.
In all modern states, governmental functions have greatly expanded with the emergence of government as an active force in guiding social and economic development.Government has thus become the major or even the dominant organizing power in all contemporary societies and therefore require sufficient times to work.
A basic understanding of the role of government will reveal that it requires adequate time for planning of growth and development as well as implementation before results are achieved. Besides, political manipulations, the issue of Continuity could be seen in terms of provision of basic facilities and services for which government exist to provide. It should be added that it takes time for some projects such as road construct, dams etc to be accomplished. This again justify Continuity in governance. Otherwise government will only focus on light projects that does not make for sustainable development
Improvement and efficiency in governance as well as government activities. It is a known fact that efficiency is the driver of success for any organization, community or state. For government at local, and national levels drives it constituent’s satisfaction, and increased productivity, cost savings and revenue to the state. Therefore, this make support for Continuity to be indispensable and need to be supported.
We must remember that government generally exist for three main purpose of 1. maintaining social order, 2. providing public services and 3. as well as security and defense. This shows that the benefits of Continuity in governance that include sufficient time for planning and execution of long-term projects, elimination of wastes and efficiency in conducting government business among others. Therefore, for the above benefits to be rationalized, there is need for actions to promote Continuity in governance.
We must think and look around us. We must see what ED has done and what more can be done if he is given another chance.
As patriots, we must mobilize the populace on the desirability and the need to encourage and support stability and Continuity in governance, especially where they are making substantial and visible impacts on societal growth and development, as demonstrated by the present administration in Zimbabwe.
Voting for ED on 23 August will be a way forward in
creating and enabling an environment to encourage government officials that are performing to continue within the acceptable time allowed by existing law and practices, this is done within the fold of appropriate laws to crate stability and Continuity in government. Voting for ED now will increase the propensity of developing. As a true patriot a true Zimbabwean, let us increase our presence in the social media space to inform, educate and mobilize the entire citizenry on the desirability of Continuity of governance as well as the need to sustain the current tempo of development and governance structure in Zimbabwe.
We must never underestimate the importance of creating stability and Continuity in governance in Zimbabwe. For this 23 August 2023 it is essential and should be pursued by all. This is because stability and Continuity in governance is necessary to build on the benefits already achieved. This should and must not be compromised. As demonstrated above Continuity is quite beneficial and should be supported by all. Stability and Continuity in governance is vital for Zimbabwe now if her citizens want to live in peace and prosperity. To ensure that Continuity is achieved, the citizens must play their roles also by supporting the efforts of the leaders and the party like ZANU PF because they meant good for the people of the state by insisting and promoting Continuity in governance in the state. It is clear that guaranteeing Continuity in governance is the duty and responsibility of all. Iwe neni tine basa. Everyone has to play his role earnestly and sincerely. All groups must be ready to give and take (compromise) for the peace and good governance of Zimbanwe otherwise, they will be living in chaos and instability that has the possibility of making life progress difficult, uneasy and even may engender retrogression. God forbids.

By Business Reporter – All is set for tomorrow, Wednesday’s official launch of the US$4 billion Pomona City ‘within a city’ project, putting to rest doubts about the genuineness of the prestigious life-changing housing project.
Invites sent to hundreds of beneficiaries, the media and stakeholders indicate that the grand official launch is set for tomorrow, Wednesday afternoon, at the site.
Project managers have invited beneficiaries and various stakeholders to witness the grand opening of their investment(s).
The launch of the multi-billion housing project signals WestProp’s commitment to constructing the massive gated mixed-use community.
Chief executive officer Mr Kenneth Sharpe is upbeat with the development and has promised “a changed face of Harare”.
The entrance gatehouse has a sales house, a guard room, artificial intelligence gadgets, a green energy charge room to power the facility, and surveillance cameras.
“We are introducing new facilities and attractions to the development. We have copied from the best practices globally. We are not only selling residential stands. We are offering an investment in a lifestyle community where you live, work, shop and play,” he said recently.
Some individuals who bought stands at the development have started building their properties bringing to reality the Pomona dream.
The investment makes the development one of Zimbabwe’s most massive single infrastructure capital injections.
Dubbed a city within a city because of its attributes that bring all urban aspects of life, work, shop and play into one community, Pomona City sets to be a significant prototype development that would be copied and replicated by other developers.
World-renowned architects were engaged to work on the master plan and building structures, making the development a fusion of cultures and very cosmopolitan.
The lifestyle community development combines the use of technology, communal living spaces and unique social amenities that differentiate the estate from the traditional suburban designs. The social amenities are exclusively reserved for the owners of properties to preserve privacy and uphold the value.
Infrastructure developments and designs at Pomona City mirror the ones largely found in Dubai, with traits similar to the ones in modern world capitals.
“We believe Dubai has the quality and excellence that we can bring to Zimbabwe. We are walking our talk. We believe in being disruptive,” he says.
One of the unique features of the Pomona City phase 2 is the introduction of the leasehold model, a “completely new feature in Zimbabwe but very common in developed economies”.
The leasehold model makes the acquisition of property much cheaper as it removes the bulk cost of the land. The property owner only acquires the building and leases the land from the developer.
“The affordability is much easier when one commits resources to the built-up unit only and not the land. The cost of land has been an inhibiting factor in property ownership”, says Mr Sharpe, who is pioneering the model.
The property owner is expected to pay from as little as US$50 to $200 a month in land rentals. The leases are valid for up to 50 years and are renewed perpetually (forever) with the rights of ownership to the land separate so the property can be transferred when selling the building to any buyer or giving it to the homeowners’ beneficiaries.
“The affordability aspect is much easier when a home owner commits their funds building their home and not the land. The cost of land has been an inhibiting factor in property ownership and rapid growth of the market”, he says.
Terrence Dzvukamanja has revealed that he received death threats from Orlando Pirates fans last year.
The Zimbabwean striker endured a frustrating spell at the Soweto Giants during the first half of the previous campaign.
He played just one game in that time and was at times dropped from the matchday squad.
His future looked bleak and was almost on his way out but coach Jose Riveiro decided to keep him.
Speaking in a SuperSport TV documentary, Dzvukamanja said he went through depression because of the threats.
“I received death threats, they didn’t want me here [at Pirates],” the Warriors international said.
“[It happened] last year, from September 2022 until December.
“They would come into my inboxes, and they called me — I don’t know where they got my number from.
“Even at malls … there was a time I went to a mall, and someone told me directly, ‘If you can’t leave, we will make you leave.’ I don’t respond in such cases.
“They would keep sending messages saying, ‘We know you are ignoring us, but if you don’t tell your agent or your bosses you want to leave, we will make you leave — or [make you] leave the earth’.
“By that time I had to tell my parents, my agent, even the boss of the team about what was happening.”- Soccer24 News
By A Correspondent | Renowned politician Paddington Japajapa, formerly associated with the opposition CCC party, made waves on Tuesday as he announced his departure from the party and his decision to join President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s ruling ZANU PF party. Japajapa’s surprising move was accompanied by sharp criticism of CCC party leader Nelson Chamisa, whom he accused of being power hungry. Furthermore, Japajapa expressed his disappointment at being denied parliamentary power, specifically referring to Chamisa’s own Kuwadzana parliamentary position.
Political analysts and commentators have been quick to weigh in on Japajapa’s defection. Among them, Wilbert Mukori, an analyst, stated that Japajapa’s primary motivation seemed to be his desire for a position of influence and the benefits that come with it. Mukori noted Japajapa’s prior vocal support of Chamisa and his sudden departure from the CCC party without any formal goodbyes. The analyst even claimed that Japajapa went as far as burning all his CCC regalia before joining ZANU PF.
Japajapa’s case is not an isolated incident, according to Mukori, as he highlighted the prevalence of politicians driven by personal gain rather than genuine commitment to democratic values. He cited the flawed electoral process of the 2013 elections as an example, explaining that both factions of the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) chose to participate despite the irregularities, fearing that the other faction would secure seats and lend credibility to the flawed process.
Mukori’s comments also shed light on the ZANU PF party’s refusal to address demands for a verified voters’ roll, illustrating their awareness that the opposition would participate in the elections regardless of the flaws present.
Japajapa’s defection to ZANU PF represents a significant political shift and has raised questions about his true motivations. While he accused Nelson Chamisa of being power hungry, some critics argue that Japajapa’s own pursuit of personal political gain cannot be overlooked. The move also highlights the complexity and dynamics of Zimbabwean politics, where alliances and party affiliations can shift unexpectedly.
As the nation prepares for the upcoming elections, Japajapa’s defection adds another layer of intrigue to an already intense political landscape. Only time will tell how this move will shape the dynamics of Zimbabwean politics and influence the upcoming electoral process.

Breastfeeding is one of the most effective ways to ensure child health and survival. However, contrary to WHO recommendations, fewer than half of infants under 6 months old are exclusively breastfed.
Breastmilk is the ideal food for infants. It is safe, clean and contains antibodies which help protect against many common childhood illnesses. Breastmilk provides all the energy and nutrients that the infant needs for the first months of life, and it continues to provide up to half or more of a child’s nutritional needs during the second half of the first year, and up to one third during the second year of life.
Breastfed children perform better on intelligence tests, are less likely to be overweight or obese and less prone to diabetes later in life. Women who breastfeed also have a reduced risk of breast and ovarian cancers.
Inappropriate marketing of breast-milk substitutes continues to undermine efforts to improve breastfeeding rates and duration worldwide.

By A Correspondent| Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC)’s aspiring candidate for Cowdray Park constituency, Pashor Raphael Sibanda, says he is unfazed by the developmental projects being implemented by Zanu PF candidate, Professor Mthuli Ncube.
The two will lock horns in the August 23 elections seeking to represent the newly created constituency in parliament.
Ncube, whose candidature was confirmed a few months ago, has hit the campaign trail, rolling out various projects including drilling boreholes, and repairing roads, in a bid to woo voters.
The CCC candidate was confirmed last week when he successfully submitted his nomination papers at the nomination court.
“This Zanu-PF candidate has been there for the past five years (in government as Finance Minister) and you can’t come to the people of Cowdray Park and try to change their minds three months before an election, that’s vote buying and that’s the rigging that we are always talking about and that’s why I said I am coming in to restore the dignity of our people because we are tired of people who take us for granted and treat Cowdray Park as if it’s a mere place where one can come and do this and then they get into leadership, we must be clear on that,” he said during an interview with a Bulawayo based online news organisation.
All that will not count, said Sibanda, who sounded confident of winning the election.
Sibanda said he grew up in the sprawling suburb and understands the challenges faced by residents first-hand.
He said he will launch his election manifesto soon which will outline his developmental agenda.
Sibanda also slammed the ruling party for initiating development projects during elections and stopping once the elections are over.
“I want Zanu PF to promise me that as soon as I get into Parliament that guy will continue building roads because if he is genuine, even when I am now in office, he must continue doing that, we will be happy to work with him.”
He added that the party has put in place mechanisms to ensure that there is no rigging.

By Dorrothy Moyo | In a surprising twist of events, allegations of attempted murder have emerged against Marry Chiwenga, the former wife of Constantino Chiwenga, the Vice President of Zimbabwe. The accusations stem from a bodyguard’s claim that Marry attempted to disconnect the cables sustaining the ailing Vice President during his stay in a South African hospital in 2019. However, the absence of any police case, investigation, or even allegations made within the hospital raises significant doubts about the credibility of these claims.
Marry Chiwenga has strongly challenged her accusers, demanding evidence to support the allegations. She has even gone so far as to ask for pictures to identify the cables in question, further emphasizing the lack of substance behind the accusations. Many analysts have questioned the credibility of the allegations, considering the absence of any official complaint or investigation into the matter.
Moreover, it is worth noting that Marry Chiwenga herself was a victim of a bombing and poisoning incident in June 2018, which targeted both her and her husband. These incidents resulted in severe injuries and illness for Marry, making it highly unlikely that she would subsequently attempt to harm her husband. She has claimed that there were individuals sent by the government to her husband’s bedside in China who spread falsehoods about her intentions, further casting doubt on the veracity of the allegations.
One commentator, Tambudzai Tambudzai, sarcastically raises a valid point by asking, “Why didn’t Marry Chiwenga just kill the VP immediately if it was possible?” This question challenges the logic behind the allegations, suggesting that if Marry indeed had the intention to harm her husband, she could have done so without resorting to a purportedly elaborate plan involving hospital cables.
The absence of any recorded crime or investigation in South Africa, where the alleged incident took place, adds another layer of skepticism to the allegations. It raises questions about the timing and motives behind these accusations, especially considering the absence of supporting evidence or formal legal action.
While it is crucial to consider all claims seriously, it is equally important to scrutinize the credibility and verifiability of such allegations. In the case of Marry Chiwenga, the lack of an official investigation, police case, or even allegations within the hospital casts doubt on the validity of the accusations of attempted murder. As the controversy unfolds, it remains to be seen whether these allegations will gain any substantial traction or if they will be dismissed as baseless and unfounded.
In 2019, allegations emerged accusing Marry Chiwenga, the then-wife of Constantino Chiwenga, of attempting to murder her husband while he was receiving medical treatment in South Africa. However, with no police case ever launched against Marry Chiwenga, nor any investigation or official allegation made within the hospital where the Vice President was being treated, analysts are questioning the credibility of these claims.
The allegations were initially raised by a bodyguard who claimed that Marry attempted to pull the cables sustaining Vice President Constantino Chiwenga. Marry Chiwenga has responded by challenging her accusers, demanding evidence and even providing pictures to challenge the credibility of the allegations. She raises a valid point: if these allegations were true, why was no police case initiated, and why wasn’t there any investigation or official accusation made within the hospital itself?
One must consider the broader context surrounding Marry Chiwenga’s case. She herself has been a victim of previous attacks, suffering injuries and illness following a bombing incident in June 2018 that targeted her and her husband. It is worth noting that she was the first to experience these unfortunate events. Marry Chiwenga has also stated that there were four individuals, allegedly sent by the government, who spread falsehoods and accused her of intending harm to her husband while he was receiving treatment in China. These factors cast doubt on the veracity of the allegations against her.
Furthermore, it is essential to question the logic behind the alleged attempted murder. If Marry Chiwenga truly intended to harm her husband, why didn’t she act immediately? The absence of any substantiated evidence or a police investigation at the time raises doubts about the authenticity of the allegations. This perspective is humorously echoed by Tambudzai Tambudzai, who sarcastically asks, “So why didn’t Marry Chiwenga just kill the VP immediately if it was possible?”
In light of the absence of concrete evidence and the lack of official action taken against Marry Chiwenga, it is crucial to exercise caution in accepting these allegations as fact. Accusing someone of such a grave crime without proper investigation or evidence can lead to damaging consequences for the individual involved. It is essential to consider all available information and allow for a fair and thorough examination of the allegations before reaching any conclusions.
As the story surrounding Marry Chiwenga unfolds, it becomes increasingly evident that there are significant doubts regarding the veracity of the attempted murder allegations made against her. Without concrete evidence or an official investigation, it is premature to assume her guilt. It is imperative to separate sensational claims from substantiated facts and allow due process to take its course before passing judgment.
By A Correspondent| Exiled former Zanu PF Commissar Savior Kasukuwere has scoffed at a High Court application filed by one Lovedale Mangwana challenging his candidature, saying his former party is now scared of him and engaging all sorts of tactics to stop his campaign.
Yesterday, Mangwana filed High Court papers challenging the nomination of Kasukuwere on the grounds that he has been out of Zimbabwe for over 18 months.
But Kasukuwere and his sympathisers have interpreted the application as part of Zanu PF attempts to stop him from contesting the August 23 polls.
“They are now running to the High Court! Zvarema and we are marching on. No retreat no surrender! Pound for Pound,” said Kasukuwere on Twitter.
Kasukuwere has succesfully filed his nomination papers to contest in the Presidential elections together with 10 other candidates including President Emmerson Mnangagwa, Nelson Chamisa, Lovemore Madhuku, Douglas Mwonzora, Joseph Makamba Busha, Trust Chikohora and others.
The opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) has given candidates who were ‘fraudulently’ registered under the party for national assembly and local authority elections 24 hours to withdraw their candidature or face being dragged to court.
The party claims that the ‘fraudulent candidates’ were allegedly smuggled in by the controversial Forever Associates of Zimbabwe (FAZ), a Zanu PF-affiliate linked to the Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) to give an impression of double candidates after attempts to infiltrate its structures failed.
The Nomination Courts for the August 23 elections sat last week to register aspirants, with Zimbabwe Electoral Commission lists afterwards reflecting that the CCC had fielded double and in some cases triple nominations in some areas.
In a statement on Monday, CCC spokesperson Fadzai Mahere said they have filed complaints to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) and ZEC but have not received a response so far.
“Pursuant to our press briefing on 22 June 2023, we filed objections against double candidates in terms of the procedure provided for under the Electoral Act. We have received no response from ZEC,” Mahere said.

The European Union (EU) has accepted Zimbabwe’s invite to observe the country’s elections due August 23 this year.
EU ambassador to Zimbabwe Jobst von Kirchmann said the invitation to observe polls ‘demonstrates the trust, cooperation and partnership’ between the government and the grouping.
“The EU warmly welcomes the invitation from the Government of Zimbabwe to observe the harmonised elections of 2023 in Zimbabwe.
“This invitation clearly demonstrates the trust, cooperation, and partnership between Zimbabwe and the EU,” he said in a tweet.
In the 2018 elections, the EU deployed about 88 observers, later reporting that “the political climate has improved, (…) but unequal opportunities (between candidates), voter intimidation and lack of confidence in the electoral process have undermined the pre-electoral environment”.
Last week, the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) invited applications for accreditation from persons and organisations wishing to observe the country’s high stakes poll.
Accreditation fees for local observers this year has been pegged at US$10 per individual while those from the African continent shall pay US$100 each.
Observer fees for those manning foreign embassies in Zimbabwe have been pegged at US$300 while those from any country outside Africa will each pay US$400.
The fees for local media practitioners accredited with the Zimbabwe Media Commission and working for foreign media houses is US$100 as is the case with those from the African continent while local media practitioners accredited with the ZMC pay US$10.
However, observers from the African Union, the Southern African Development Community, Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa, the SADC Parliamentary Forum, the Electoral Commissions Forum of SADC, electoral bodies in African countries and embassies from African countries are exempt from paying any fees.
Legal think- tank Veritas criticised the fees for allegedly discouraging local and international organisations from seeking observer accreditation.
“Proper election observation enhances the fairness, transparency and credibility of elections and also encourages all parties contesting elections to accept the results.
“The African Charter on Democracy, Elections and Governance and the SADC Principles and Guidelines on Elections both emphasize the importance of independent observers in ensuring that elections are transparent, credible and democratic. Zimbabwe is a party to both those instruments,” it said.

By A Correspondent| Independent Norton legislator Temba Mliswa has said Zanu PF is going into the 23 August 2023 elections in bad shape and would lose to a viable opposition.
Posting on Twitter, Mliswa said Zanu PF is at its worst, a situation that gives the opposition a chance to take it to the cleaners.
“The impeding elections have three players who are ED, Chamisa and a large body of the rest of the field combined. As I have said before ZANU-PF is in a bad state, the worst it has been for some time and a viable opposition could have taken it to the cleaners.
“It stems from a variety of factors which include but are not limited to a poor economy, a blundering and meddling FAZ plus internecine divisions. However the main opposition, CCC has itself become a blundering party, self-tripping and prone to suicidal tendencies,” said Mliswa.
Zimbabwe is set to hold its next harmonised elections on 23 August 2023.
11 candidates have thrown their hat in the ring including Nelson Chamisa of CCC, Douglas Mwonzora of MDC, Lovemore Madhuku of NCA, Joseph Makamba Busha of FreeZim Congress and Emmerson Mnangagwa of Zanu PF among others.

Should the fraudulent candidates withdraw their candidature within 24 hours, the CCC will not persist with both the civil and criminal proceedings against them.
The Mirror consultant and seasoned journalist, Matthew Takaona successfully filed his papers on Wednesday to represent Zimbabwe’s largest opposition party, the CCC in the August 23, 2023 harmonised elections. Takaona will lock horns with Winston Chitando who is the current Minister of Mines for the Gutu Central Parliamentary seat.
Takaona who led the Zimbabwe Union of Journalists (ZUJ), four times between 1997 and 2010 switched to Gutu Central four weeks before CCC’s nominations last month after Gutu North, the seat he originally eyed was dismantled during the delimitation process. The award winning journalist was fired from The Sunday Mail in 2004 where he was both acting news editor and business editor by then Minister of Information and Publicity, Jonathan Moyo for defending journalists and Press Freedom.
He then started to build ZUJ and established a secretariat from scratch with the support of the Canadian Embassy. WITH a week before the Premier Soccer League mid-season transfer window opens, there is already speculation on additions local teams are going to make.
2015 champions, Chicken Inn are in the hunt for a utility player, among other options, and will be hoping to add quality and depth when the mid-season transfer window opens in July.
Head coach, Prince Matore has confirmed they will consider additions.
“We are happy with our squad, but we are looking to add a utility player who will allow us to introduce different styles of play. All our departments have been performing well so we decided to bring on board a player who can be converted into a striker a midfielder of defence,” he said.
One of the most likely addition for the Gamecocks is Obert Malajila, who is young brother to former Warriors, Dynamos and Highlanders striker, Cuthbert.
Obert has been training with Chicken Inn and his parent club and ZIFA Southern region division one outfit, ZPC Hwange has confirmed through head coach, Njabulo Dube that a deal is almost done.
Across town, ambitious Bulawayo Chiefs will not be adding any new faces as head coach Lizwe Sweswe says he is satisfied with his squad.
Meanwhile, Bulawayo giants Highlanders have appointed Israel Moyo as their new treasurer, replacing Busani Mthombeni who resigned last week.

In a recent court ruling, the Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (ZESA) has been ordered to pay a compensation amount of over US$20,000 to Israel James, a 22-year-old man who suffered life-changing injuries as a child due to the negligence of ZESA workers. The incident, which occurred in November 2010, involved live wires left on the ground by the power company’s employees. This article examines the case, the court’s decision, and the implications of the ruling.
The Incident and Injuries
Israel James was just nine years old when he received severe electric shocks from live wires negligently left lying on the ground by ZESA workers. The incident resulted in him being thrown into the air multiple times before he was rescued. Israel sustained burns, fall injuries, and a permanent deformity on his torso and back. Additionally, he suffered a head injury when a plate holding cables exploded during the accident, leading to a 19-day hospitalization.
The Legal Battle
Following the incident, Israel’s father, Mr. Alphas James, initiated a High Court bid against ZESA’s subsidiary company, the Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC). Mr. James sought damages amounting to US$250,000, covering pain and suffering, physical deformity, shock, and trauma resulting from the exposure to electricity.
The Court’s Decision
Justice Priscillah Munangati-Manongwa, presiding over the case, acknowledged ZESA’s liability but found the claim of US$250,000 to be excessive. After careful consideration, the court awarded Israel James a compensation amount of US$20,677, payable in the local currency. ZESA had proposed an award of US$3,000, which the court deemed inappropriate given the extent of Israel’s injuries, pain, and physical and mental suffering.
Justice Munangati-Manongwa’s ruling rejected the argument put forth by Mr. James that the injured boy’s future ability to provide for his family should be considered, stating that such speculation has no place in the legal realm. The judge emphasized the importance of substantiating future repercussions on the claimant through medical reports, cautioning against relying on unfounded claims aimed at maximizing the defendant’s culpability.
Understanding Damages and Justice
The court’s decision highlights the purpose of damages in legal proceedings. Damages are not intended to penalize the negligent party but rather to achieve justice and restore the claimant to their pre-incident state as much as possible while being fair to all parties involved. Justice Munangati-Manongwa emphasized the need to strike a balance in awarding compensation.
The case of Israel James serves as a reminder of the importance of holding organizations accountable for their negligence, particularly when it results in life-changing injuries. While the compensation awarded by the court may not fully remedy the physical and emotional impact on Israel’s life, it reflects a step towards acknowledging his suffering. This ruling should encourage entities like ZESA to prioritize safety measures, ensuring that incidents like these are prevented in the future.- state media
Emmerson Mnangagwa’s Invitation to Election Observers Raises Questions of Sincerity.
By Farai D Hove | In a surprising move, Zimbabwe’s President Emmerson Mnangagwa has extended an invitation to regional, continental, and international bodies to observe the upcoming general elections scheduled for August 23. This announcement comes as Mnangagwa claims that he has nothing to hide and has implemented measures to ensure violence-free, transparent, and credible elections. However, critics argue that Mnangagwa’s sincerity in making such claims is questionable, particularly considering his involvement in the events of the 2018 election.
During the 2018 poll, Mnangagwa orchestrated a coup that involved the deployment of soldiers to intimidate and shoot at electoral commissioners on August 1. This incident was widely condemned as a violation of democratic principles and resulted in the loss of innocent lives. Given this history, doubts linger regarding Mnangagwa’s true commitment to a genuinely fair and transparent electoral process.
Soldiers shooting civilians indiscriminately on 1 Aug 2018, on Emmerson Mnangagwa’s orders in order to change the election results, as fully announced by his advisor Christopher Mutsvangwa in a televised 15 Dec 2017 address
The government’s decision to invite international observers, including the African Union (AU), Southern African Development Community (SADC), Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), and the Commonwealth, aims to project an image of openness and cooperation. Additionally, the European Union (EU) has warmly welcomed the invitation, signaling a potential shift in relations between Zimbabwe and the EU.
EU Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Jobst Von Kirchmann, expressed the bloc’s approval of the invitation, stating that it demonstrated the trust, cooperation, and partnership between Zimbabwe and the EU. While this endorsement may appear positive on the surface, it is crucial to consider the EU’s previous stance on Zimbabwe and its history of demanding credible democratic processes.
Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) vice chairperson, Ambassador Rodney Kiwa, defended the invitation, highlighting that it signifies the country’s commitment to holding free, fair, and credible elections. According to Kiwa, the invitation reflects Zimbabwe’s preparedness and transparency in conducting the upcoming election. He also noted that over 50 local individuals and institutions have expressed interest in observing the polls.
However, critics argue that the invitation alone does not guarantee a genuinely transparent and violence-free election. The presence of observers does not address the systemic issues and potential biases that could undermine the credibility of the electoral process. The true test lies in whether the government and the electoral commission will ensure impartiality, protect citizens’ rights, and provide a level playing field for all political parties.
It is worth noting that the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission has set specific fees for observer applications, which could potentially limit the participation of certain organizations or individuals. Charging fees may deter independent or smaller groups from engaging in the observation process, thereby limiting the diversity of perspectives and potentially compromising the credibility of the observers’ assessments.
As the deadline for observer applications approaches, the Zimbabwean public and the international community will closely monitor the actions of the government and the electoral commission. It is crucial that both entities demonstrate genuine commitment to transparency, impartiality, and the protection of democratic principles to dispel concerns about the sincerity of the invitation extended by President Mnangagwa.
Only time will tell whether these elections truly mark a turning point for Zimbabwe’s democratic journey or merely serve as a facade to regain international recognition. The international community, particularly the invited observer bodies, must remain vigilant and hold the Zimbabwean government accountable for its promises of a violence-free, transparent, and credible electoral process.
Trial of Marry Mubaiwa, Ex-Wife of Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, Continues with Testimony of Fourth Witness.
The trial of Marry Mubaiwa, the former wife of Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, entered its latest phase as the State called its fourth witness to testify in court. The charges against Mubaiwa stem from an alleged attempt to kill her then-husband, Vice President Chiwenga, by unplugging his life support system while he was hospitalized. The dramatic events allegedly unfolded in June 2019, and the trial has been ongoing since then.
The latest witness, Major Godfrey Nyoni, took the stand to provide his account of the events surrounding the incident. Major Nyoni testified that he had followed Vice President Chiwenga to South Africa on June 25, 2019, three days after the family and others had left for the hospital. By that time, VP Chiwenga had already been admitted to a hospital in South Africa for medical treatment.
Major Nyoni, who was part of the security team accompanying the Vice President, stated that he witnessed Mubaiwa attempting to kill her husband and remove him from the ward secretly. He explained that upon their arrival in South Africa, the security team was divided into two groups to ensure round-the-clock surveillance of VP Chiwenga.
According to Major Nyoni’s testimony, on the evening of July 8, 2019, while he was on duty, Mubaiwa arrived at the hospital and requested privacy with her husband. She ordered Major Nyoni, Sergeant Mugari, and Dzungudza to leave the ward. However, they returned after hearing the door being opened and discovered Mubaiwa trying to leave the ward with the seriously ill VP Chiwenga.
Major Nyoni confronted Mubaiwa, but she did not disclose her intentions or where she intended to take the Vice President. He noticed that Mubaiwa was holding VP Chiwenga’s hand and appeared to be pushing him. Major Nyoni informed Mubaiwa that the VP was bleeding from his right hand and requested her to allow them to wash his pyjamas.
With the assistance of Sergeant Mugari, Major Nyoni safely returned VP Chiwenga to his bed and called for hospital staff to reconnect the medical equipment. He also reported the incident to Dr. Mangwiro and Major General Mashava, the principal staff officer for the Vice President.
The following day, Major Nyoni and Sergeant Mugari took photos of the blood-stained t-shirt worn by VP Chiwenga before washing it. These photographs were presented as evidence during the court proceedings.
Major Nyoni further revealed that there were no noticeable CCTV cameras in the ward at the time. He noted that after the incident, Mubaiwa would occasionally visit VP Chiwenga, but there were instances when she did not return to the hospital for two to ten days.
Additionally, Major Nyoni testified that Mubaiwa would shout at Dr. Mangwiro, accusing him of administering incorrect medication to the Vice President.
The trial is set to resume on July 6, with Mubaiwa’s lawyer, Ms. Beatrice Mtetwa, cross-examining Major Nyoni. Mr. Lancelot Mutsokoti is representing the State in this high-profile case.
As the trial unfolds, the court will carefully consider the evidence and testimonies presented. The proceedings are crucial in determining the truth behind the alleged attempt on Vice President Chiwenga’s life. The outcome of this trial will undoubtedly have significant implications for all parties involved and the political landscape of the nation.

By- Zanu PF Presidential candidate Emmerson Mnangagwa said he would not let power go even if he loses the August polls.
Officially launching the ruling party’s campaign for the August 23 elections in Chipinge, Mnangagwa said that Zanu PF would do everything to keep power.
Mnangagwa presided over the event attended by Zanu PF supporters during the launch of the party’s 2023 campaign at Mutema Secondary School in Musikavanhu constituency in Chipinge.
He was accompanied by his deputies Constantino Chiwenga, who doubles up as the country’s vice president and Health minister and Kembo Mohadi.
“The country will remain in our hands,” Mnagagwa said.
“We fought for our democracy, no one will stop us. We will do what we can to remain in power.
“Zanu PF is unstoppable; Zanu PF will continue to rule.”
Mnangagwa and other Zanu Pf officials refrained from mentioning exiled ex-minister and former party member Saviour Kasukuwere, who is contesting the polls as an independent candidate. There are fears in the ruling party that Kasukuwere may eat into Zanu PF votes.
“Zanu PF shed blood for this country and no other party fought for this country, Zanu PF is a colossal party,” Mnangagwa said before calling for peace before, during and after the elections.
“We want peace, unity and harmony. We may come from different communities but we are one country and we should not work as individuals.”
Mnangagwa said they were going to erect solar powered boreholes for traditional leaders.
“Let’s respect our traditional leaders, each of the traditional leaders will get a solar-driven borehole,” he said.
“We have 35 000 village heads, that is the programme we started 2 to 3 years ago.”
The move by Mnangagwa has been seen as a campaign strategy ahead of the 2023 elections.
He is facing stiff challenge from Citizens Coalition for Change leader Nelson Chamisa and nine other candidates in the presidential race. Standard
By- Zanu PF has hired has ditched the party’s praise singer Chief Shumba Hwenje for Mambo Dhuterere as it launched its campaign for the 23 August elections.

Dear Editor.
It is time for the repressive regime in Zimbabwe to understand that intimidation of its citizens on foreign soil is unacceptable. Far too often, Zimbabweans who face such intimidation are unaware that certain elements within the very institutions they seek help from may be indirectly influenced by the oppressive government. This covert manipulation, often carried out through private investigators, amounts to a form of terrorism against their own people and should not be tolerated. It is crucial for Zimbabwean citizens experiencing such intimidation to report these incidents to counter-terrorism authorities in their host countries, as these departments are well-equipped to handle and discipline those responsible. By raising global awareness and garnering support, we can protect Zimbabweans in the diaspora and ensure their safety.
The Perils of Intimidation Abroad
When Zimbabweans flee their homeland seeking safety and freedom in foreign countries, they expect to find solace and support. Unfortunately, they often encounter a different reality. Those who dare to voice dissent or engage in activism against the repressive regime soon discover that their actions have not gone unnoticed. They become targets of intimidation campaigns conducted by individuals working on behalf of the government. These tactics are not limited to physical threats; they encompass a range of measures aimed at silencing opposition and instilling fear.
The Infiltration of Institutions
One of the greatest challenges faced by Zimbabweans abroad is the realization that even the institutions they instinctively turn to for help may not be immune from the repressive regime’s influence. It is not uncommon for individuals within the police force or other law enforcement agencies to be on the government’s payroll, either directly or indirectly. This creates a troubling situation where victims of intimidation find themselves unknowingly seeking assistance from those who are complicit in their persecution. As a result, their pursuit of justice and protection becomes an arduous and fruitless endeavor.
Intimidation as State-Sponsored Terrorism
The intimidation of Zimbabweans on foreign soil can only be described as a form of state-sponsored terrorism. Terrorism, as defined by the United Nations, involves acts intended to intimidate or coerce a civilian population or to influence the policy of a government through fear. The repressive regime in Zimbabwe employs intimidation tactics precisely for these purposes. By subjecting their citizens abroad to threats, harassment, and surveillance, they aim to quash dissent, discourage activism, and maintain control beyond their borders. It is vital to recognize this campaign of terror for what it is and take appropriate action.
Empowering Zimbabweans: Reporting to Counter-Terrorism Authorities
In the face of such pervasive intimidation, it is essential that Zimbabweans in the diaspora know their rights and understand where to turn for help. While fighting against these monsters individually may seem futile, there is strength in unity and in utilizing existing resources. Reporting incidents of intimidation to counter-terrorism authorities in their host countries can have a significant impact. These departments are well-funded, possess the necessary resources, and have the capacity to investigate and discipline overzealous individuals who attempt to intimidate Zimbabweans abroad.
The Power of Global Attention
To achieve tangible change, we must elevate these issues to the global stage. By launching a campaign that raises awareness and garners international attention, we can apply pressure on the repressive Zimbabwean government. Letters, emails, and calls to counter-terrorism authorities should also be complemented by reaching out to influential bodies such as the UK Foreign Office or the US State Department. When these authorities receive credible information about the intimidation of Zimbabweans abroad, they can exert diplomatic pressure on the Zimbabwean government and hold them accountable for their actions.
Zimbabweans in the diaspora deserve safety, security, and freedom from intimidation, regardless of where they are in the world. The repressive regime’s tactics of terrorizing its own people. – Tinashe Pausigere
Kevin De Bruyne will miss the start of next season due to injury.
The Belgian forward was forced off the pitch in the first half of the Champions League final against Inter Milan after suffering a hamstring tear.
According to English outlet The Star, the injury was a serious one and he won’t be fit in time for the new campaign.
The scans revealed De Bruyne, 31, suffered a Grade Three hamstring tear.
The problem does not require surgery but it will prevent him from playing any part in the Community Shield curtain-raiser against Arsenal and the EPL season opener against Burnley.
The publication adds that City’s medical department are optimistic the playmaker will be ready to play his first game of the campaign on Aug 16 – for their European Super Cup clash against Europa League champions Sevilla in Athens.
De Bruyne will still join City’s pre-season camp and the club’s tour of the Far East but only to continue his recovery rather than appear in any of the games.-Soccer24 News

Zimbabwe – 408-6 in 50 overs (Sean Williams 174, Joylord Gumbie 78, Sikandar Raza 48; Abhishek Paradkar 3/78, Jessy Singh 2/97, Nosthush Kenjige 1/62)
United States of America – 104 all out in 25.1 overs (Abhishek Paradkar 24, Jessy Singh 21, Gajanand Singh 13; Sikandar Raza 2/15, Richard Ngarava 2/25, Ryan Burl 1/18)
Zimbabwe won by 304 runs
A brilliant innings of 174 by Sean Williams off only 101 balls was the highlight of Zimbabwe’s biggest-ever one-day international victory when they crushed the United States of America by 304 runs in their final ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2023 Group A match at Harare Sports Club on Monday.
With the fates of both teams already decided regarding the Super Six stage of the tournament, the hosts took the opportunity to rest Craig Ervine, Blessing Muzarabani and Tendai Chatara, while the wicket-keeper Clive Madande was ruled out with an injured shoulder.
Innocent Kaia came into the side to open the batting with Joylord Gumbie when the USA won the toss and put Zimbabwe in to bat.
In the first seven overs they scored only 17 runs as they took the measure of some accurate bowling from Nosthush Kenjige and Abhishek Paradkar.
Then they began to open up and added another 39 in the next six overs before Kaia (32), in trying to hit a six off Jasdeep Singh, was caught at deep square leg – 56 for one in the 14th over.
This brought in Williams, who got after the bowling right from the start.
The pair put the attack to the sword by adding 160 runs in less than 22 overs, although Gumbie was fortunate on 53 when he seemed to have edged a catch to the wicket-keeper.
He was eventually stumped as he advanced well down the pitch to attack Kanjige after making 78 off 103 balls.
Sikandar Raza came in and the rest of the innings was virtual carnage, as the batters flogged the hapless bowlers mercilessly.
Raza scored 48 off 27 balls, with two sixes and five fours, but his innings was quickly overshadowed by a devastating innings from Ryan Burl, whose 47 came off only 16 balls.
He was caught at deep midwicket after hitting four sixes and three fours, playing the stroke that would not only have brought him the record for a Zimbabwean in an ODI, but also have placed him equal second in the all-time records, behind only the 16-ball record held by AB de Villiers of South Africa.
All this time Williams was going from strength to strength at the other end, hitting powerfully at virtually every ball.
He reached his fifty off 33 balls and his century off 65, and at one stage a double-century looked a real possibility for him, as did a 400 total for Zimbabwe.
But Williams didn’t get quite enough of the bowling, and was eventually caught just inside the long-off boundary as he attempted another six, having made a magnificent 174 off only 101 balls, with five sixes and 21 fours – this was his highest score in ODIs.
The 400 total was reached in the final over, thanks to some powerful blows from Tadiwanashe Marumani, making his tournament début and making 18 not out off six deliveries.
Zimbabwe finished on 408 for six wickets, far beyond their previous record of 351 for seven, scored against Kenya at Mombasa in 2008/09.
Paradkar was the most successful American bowler, taking three wickets for 78 in nine overs.
Unfortunately, the United States, in a hopeless situation, were unable to put up much of a fight.
Richard Ngarava took the first two wickets in his first three overs, and three men were out for 16.
Aaron Jones with eight and Gajanand Singh with 13 took the score to 44, but then three more wickets fell for the addition of a single, two of them to run-outs within three balls.
This left the score at 45 for six after 11 overs.
Paradkar with 24 and Jasdeep Singh with 21 then showed some resistance, but the ninth wicket fell at 97.
Kenjige then saved some face for his team with a boundary to take the score past 100, but there followed a third run-out to end the innings at 104 — 70 runs fewer than Williams had scored off his own bat.
The other seven wickets were shared among the five bowlers used, with Ngarava taking two for 25 and Raza two for 15.
Zimbabwe’s victory by 304 runs is not only the second biggest win by runs in men’s ODI cricket quite puts in the shade their previous biggest margin of victory in the format, which was by 202 runs against Kenya in Bangladesh in 1999, a triangular series.
They also became the first side to bring up a score of 400-plus in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier, having bettered their previous biggest total of 380 against Nepal in 2018.
Also, Zimbabwe have become the seventh country in history to record a score of over 400, joining the elite list of India, Australia, South Africa, England, Sri Lanka and New Zealand.

By Dorrothy Moyo | Monica Mutsvangwa, the Information Minister of Zimbabwe, has found herself at the center of a growing storm of controversy due to her involvement in advocating for repressive laws and her controversial interviews in South Africa. Mutsvangwa, along with two other women, convened two years ago to commission calls for a law that aimed to persecute critics expressing dissenting opinions, particularly those critical of Mutsvangwa herself. The recent conviction of one of the three women, Mai Titi, as a thief adds a twist of irony to the situation. Furthermore, Mutsvangwa’s actions have drawn international attention and embarrassment for Zimbabwe, especially given the country’s already diminished reputation for holding credible elections. The developments surrounding Mutsvangwa have even led to her name trending as the subject of a reggae song, emphasizing the public’s discontent. Additionally, the dismissal of Herald staff members for reporting on alleged corruption involving Mutsvangwa’s son raises concerns about press freedom and transparency within the government.
The Controversial “Anti-Critic Law” and Mai Titi’s Conviction
Two years ago, Monica Mutsvangwa, along with two other women, spearheaded a campaign to commission a law that empowered the corrupt to persecute online critics. The law targeted individuals who expressed anti-Mutsvangwa sentiments on the internet, sparking widespread condemnation for its infringement on freedom of speech. The recent conviction of Mai Titi, one of the three women involved in the campaign, as a thief adds a striking twist to the story. Those who sought to suppress criticism are now facing legal issues themselves, highlighting the irony and potential hypocrisy of their actions.
Monica Mutsvangwa’s Embarrassing South African Interviews
Monica Mutsvangwa’s participation in interviews on South African television, defending the controversial “Anti-Critic Law,” has further exacerbated the controversy. Her staunch defense of a law widely criticized for curbing freedom of expression and human rights has sparked outrage both within Zimbabwe and internationally. Mutsvangwa’s interviews have not only embarrassed herself but have also cast a negative light on Zimbabwe, particularly concerning its commitment to democratic principles and human rights. The public’s response, including the emergence of a reggae song focused on Mutsvangwa’s name, serves as a testament to the community’s strong opposition to her stance.
Erosion of Zimbabwe’s Reputation for Credible Elections
Zimbabwe has long struggled with credibility in conducting free and fair elections. However, Monica Mutsvangwa’s recent involvement in promoting repressive laws further damages the country’s reputation. As the Information Minister, Mutsvangwa plays a pivotal role in upholding democratic values and ensuring transparent governance. Unfortunately, her actions raise doubts about the government’s commitment to these principles. Concerns from the international community, civil society organizations, and citizens themselves highlight the deteriorating state of Zimbabwe’s democratic processes and the potential consequences for future elections.
Dismissal of Herald Staff and Allegations of Corruption
The recent dismissal of Herald staff members who reported on alleged corruption involving Monica Mutsvangwa’s son is cause for concern. The firings raise questions about press freedom and the government’s willingness to hold those in power accountable. These actions further fuel suspicions of corruption and a lack of transparency within the government, exacerbating public distrust.
Monica Mutsvangwa’s role as Information Minister carries significant responsibility and influence. However, her involvement in advocating for repressive laws, controversial interviews, and allegations of corruption surrounding her son have severely damaged Zimbabwe’s reputation. The erosion of credibility in conducting credible elections undermines the country’s democratic progress and international standing.
Controversy Erupts as President Mnangagwa’s Remarks Echo Information Minister’s ‘Corruption Company’ Slur
By Farai D Hove | In a shocking turn of events, Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa has been caught on file footage repeating a similar label used by his subordinate, Information Minister Monica Mutsvangwa, referring to the Zimbabwe Anti Corruption Commission (ZACC) as the nation’s “Corruption Company.” The footage, recorded by Transparency International, has ignited a debate surrounding the curious resemblance between the two incidents, which occurred three years apart.
The controversy began with Minister Mutsvangwa’s alleged slip of the tongue during a press conference in 2020, where she mistakenly referred to ZACC as the “Corruption Company.” At the time, the incident was dismissed as a verbal blunder, and the matter soon faded away. However, the recent emergence of video footage featuring President Mnangagwa making strikingly similar remarks has reignited discussions on the matter.
According to the footage, President Mnangagwa acknowledged the corruption within the previous iteration of ZACC and stated, “I decided to create another Corruption.” The President went even further, noting that he appointed a woman to head the newly formed anti-corruption body, dubbing it the new “Corruption.” Although the statements seem to have slipped from the President’s tongue, their close similarity to Minister Mutsvangwa’s comments has raised eyebrows and prompted intense scrutiny.
The nation has been grappling with widespread corruption, as recently exposed in the GoldMafia documentary. The documentary revealed President Mnangagwa’s wife, Auxillia, allegedly engaging in smuggling gold and money in and out of Zimbabwe using the President’s private jet. The transactions were reportedly conducted with individuals posing as gangsters but were, in fact, undercover journalists.
The revelations from the documentary have further fueled public outrage and eroded trust in the government’s commitment to fighting corruption. The uncanny resemblance between the statements made by President Mnangagwa and Minister Mutsvangwa has now added fuel to the fire, with critics questioning the sincerity of the government’s anti-corruption efforts.
Opposition leaders, civil society organizations, and concerned citizens have called for a thorough investigation into the allegations made in the GoldMafia documentary and the connections to the President’s office. They argue that the apparent similarities in the remarks made by top government officials raise suspicions about the true nature of the government’s stance on corruption.
The ruling ZANU PF party has not yet officially responded to the controversy surrounding President Mnangagwa’s statements. However, political analysts suggest that this incident will undoubtedly cast a shadow over the government’s credibility and intensify the pressure on the President to address the corruption allegations in a transparent and decisive manner.
As Zimbabwe continues to battle the scourge of corruption, the latest controversy surrounding President Mnangagwa’s remarks has underscored the need for immediate action and genuine efforts to tackle the deep-rooted issue. The citizens of Zimbabwe await further developments and hope for a transparent investigation into the alleged corruption within the government’s highest ranks.

By A Correspondent| Former deputy prime minister, Prof Arthur Mutambara, who will this Monday launch the third and final book in his autobiographical trilogy in the United Kingdom at the Law School of the University of Westminster has revealed intricate details of his relationship with the late former President Robert Mugabe.
He was deputy prime minister in the Government of National Unity (GNU) established with regional support after the violent 2008 elections.
A key feature of the third book is what Prof Mutambara describes as a “rare insight” into the mind of Zimbabwe’s founding leader Robert Mugabe.
“Given my unprecedented access to Robert Mugabe during the GNU, the book also covers many of our intimate conversations and reflections – what a rare insight into the man’s mind!
“Among other aspects, there are priceless nuggets and narrations from the liberation struggle – in Mugabe’s own words – which reflect his character, fears and ambitions. In particular, he directly articulates his subtle but ruthlessly Machiavellian political calculations and manoeuvres.
“The material in this book constitutes a first in the literature on Zimbabwe’s liberation struggle. My conversations with Mugabe are striking because he is very relaxed, unguarded and unrestrained. He tells me what comes across as truthful and non-manipulative accounts and recollections.
“This is clearly so because, in some cases, the revelations are not charitable to him. In other instances, the information contradicts the official party line that he and his colleagues have vociferously pushed in public – ‘Oh, that is propaganda for the consumption of the unsophisticated and uninitiated’ as Mugabe derisively calls it! Indeed, the new insights about the struggle for independence in Zimbabwe are quite a treat.
“The book documents this gold mine of the never-before-revealed or published views and perspectives of Robert Mugabe – the political gladiator. He speaks from the grave.”
In Search of the Elusive Zimbabwean Dream is a series comprising three books based on my political interpretations, leadership opinions and philosophical disposition over 40 years, from 1983 to 2023, Prof Mutambara explains.
“The trilogy records my initiatives that sought to turn strategic thinking into reality through the speed of execution. Ostensibly, the work is the documentation of my participation in, and contributions to, thought leadership – intellectual influence through innovative and pioneering thinking.”
The trilogy asks the question: “what is going on?” – as the Zimbabwean Independence Dream, “characterised by peace, equality, stability, democracy, inclusive economic growth and shared prosperity, continues to elude us”.
Following the disappointment of the Robert Mugabe post-independence regime, the 2017 military coup which toppled the strongman “was greeted with euphoria, excitement and high expectations. There was so much goodwill inside and outside the country”.
However, the successor Emmerson Mnangagwa regime “rapidly squandered” the opportunity.
“This (Mnangagwa) administration has proven to be hopelessly and shamelessly incompetent, corrupt, authoritarian and directionless,” writes Prof Mutambara in the introduction to the third volume.
“At the core of this national tragedy is a government whose primary raison d’être is the feudal pursuit of the insatiable financial interests of Mnangagwa’s family and clan members; at the expense of national aspirations.”
Beyond Zimbabwe, Prof Mutambara also notes that equally elusive is “the ‘African Dream’ or the ‘Global South Dream'”.
“While the views are primarily in pursuit of a national ambition – the ‘Zimbabwean Dream’ – there is a robust Pan-African thread pervading all the thoughts, particularly in the later years, which include my invaluable tenure as Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Zimbabwe,” says Prof Mutambara.
“Hence, the material presented in the three books also lays the foundation for the ambitious vision of the United States of Africa – a peaceful, stable, united, integrated, democratic, technology-driven, industrial and economically prosperous continent providing all the requisite social amenities to its citizenry.”
By Wibert Mukori| Long before war is declared and the first guns fired the body bags of the first casualties – the truth, always the truth – with start to mount. South Africa’s ANC government is fighting for its political survival and the truth is its first sacrificial lamb.
Successive ANC governments have ruled the country for the last 29 years and have fcuked up (pardon my French) big time. SA is now well on its way to become yet another failed Africa State, some people say it is a failed state already.
South Africa’s economic meltdown is caused by gross mismanagement, on the one hand. The ANC government went for the vote-winning strategy of connecting more and more electricity consumers to the grid and neglected the less noticeable part of investing on the generation and transmission plant, for example. The chicken have finally come home to roost, the country is enduring wide-ranging electricity power cuts, emphatically euphemistically called load shed. The power shortage is so bad that even the country wealth generating mines and industries and essential services like hospital were switch off too!
The major cause of SA’s economic meltdown is undoubtedly corruption. Everyone knows of the well documented “State Capture” by the Gupta Brothers with the connivance of former ANC President Jacob Zuma. A recent “Gold Mafia” Al Jazeera documentary reveal that Zimbabwe was losing a staggering US$1.6 billion per year to gold smugglers. Many South African citizens and institutions were named in the gold smuggling and/or money laundering.
The ANC government has promised to end load shedding and stamp out corruption. Easier said than done!
South Africans are going to the poll next year and given the country’s history of holding free, fair and credible elections (Nelson Mandela’s legacy), the ANC government is worried sick the people will give the party the boot.
President Cyril Ramaphosa and his ANC friends are particularly worried should the ongoing 2023 Zimbabwe elections should result in the Zanu PF regime being booted out of office. Zanu PF’s 43 years in power has been disastrous for Zimbabwe, so much so the country is a failed state – an undisputed a historic fact. The very fact that Zimbabweans have finally successful booted out Zanu PF will galvanise South Africans to want to do the same.
If Zimbabwe was to notch up some significant economic recovery after booting out the corrupt, incompetent and tyrannical Zanu PF regime, this will turn the wave of ANC must go into an unstoppable tsunami! A modest economic recover is certainly possible given the seriousness of Zimbabwe’s economic meltdown today is not a far cry to that in 2008. The Zimbabwe economy recovered to register 12% growth rate in 2009 compared to the -ve 6% in 2008 following the formation of 2008 to 2013 GNU.
The ANC government is engaged in a pre-emptive rearguard fight to stop regime change in Zimbabwe at all cost!
In November last year the ANC resolved that the party will not allow the West to achieve regime change in Zimbabwe through its imposition of economic sanctions. And ever since, the party, particularly Secretary General Filike Mbalula has returned to this theme with passion boarding on hysteria.
“Americans want regime change. Even here in Zimbabwe, Mbeki stood firm. They wanted Mugabe to be change over night and then the attack us on quite diplomas. American can move in the afternoon and by dinner time Mugabe would be finished.” SG Mbalula told ANC Western Cape 9th Provincial Conference on Friday 23 June 2023.
“We do not subscribe to regime change policy. That government must be change willy-nilly through undemocratic means, through military power. We opposite the sanction and said these sanctions against Zimbabwe will be detrimental the economic growth of that country.”
Zanu PF has never ever held free, fair and credible elections since the country’s independence in 1980 and ANC leaders know that. In the watershed 2008 elections the Zanu PF blatant cheating and wanton violence were so outrageous that even AU and SADC, who had turned a blind-eye to Zanu PF vote rigging could not do so then. It was none other than SADC leaders themselves who forced Zanu PF to agree to the need for the country to implement democratic reforms to ensure free and fair elections.
It is a great tragedy that the 2008 to 2013 GNU whose primary task was to implement the democratic reforms failed to implement even one token reform. And so the Zanu PF regime emerge out of the GNU with all its dictatorial powers untouched include the power to rig elections. Zanu PF rigged the 2013 and 2018 elections and, in similar fashion, is rigging these 2023 elections.
It is nonsensical that SG Mbalula should object to undemocratic regime change as a matter of principle when he knows the regime ANC is protecting rigged the elections and therefore, per se, is politically illegitimate in the first place.
Zimbabwe was already in serious economic trouble as evidenced by the country adopting the two, 1990 to 94 and 1995 to 99, five-year Economic Structural Adjustment Programmes (ESAP), meant to revive the flagging economy. The much hoped for revival never happened. In 1999 the WB, IMF and most Western country related financial institution stopped giving Zimbabwe any financial assistance because the country was failing to service its debts much less repay them. This all happened well before the sanctions which were imposed in 2001.
The root causes of Zimbabwe’s economic ruin are gross mismanagement, rampant corruption and brazen lawlessness such as the seizure of white owned farms to give to party loyalists. Zanu PF has enjoyed absolute power these last 43 years because the party rigs elections, giving these problem time to spread and grow.
Zimbabwe is a failed state for the same reasons SA has been marching relentless toward the same goal – mismanagement, corruption and lawless. Zimbabwe had a 14 year head start and no restrain forces thanks to the dictatorial powers to rig elections and claim absolute power.
The sanctions’ contribution to Zimbabwe’s economic meltdown is very small. Zanu PF propaganda has made sanctions a mountain out of a mole-hill.
What Zimbabwe needs to get out of this economic and political mess is implement the democratic reforms and thus cure the nation of the curse of rigged elections and bad governance.
The sanctions’ contribution to Zimbabwe’s economic meltdown is very small. Zanu PF propaganda has made sanctions a mountain out of a mole-hill. It is totally unacceptable that this ANC government should seek to impose this failed Zanu PF dictatorship on Zimbabwe under the pretext fighting the Americans’ sanction initiated regime change agenda.
“Mnangagwa conducted a coup d’etat and removed Mugabe. He implemented some reforms. And still not satisfied until they get their puppet into power, they will never be satisfied. They want Chamisa or is it chancer!” ranted on ANC SG Mbalula.
The military coup was just musical chairs game, no one expected it to produce any meaningful economic changes much less grand political changes such as free and fair elections. No one, that is except SG Mbalula.
This ANC regime is hell bent on keeping this corrupt and tyrannical Zanu PF dictatorship in power against the democratic wishes of the people of Zimbabwe.
The tragic reality for Zimbabwe is both Zanu PF and the CCC do not care about democracy, free and fair elections and good governance. All they care about is power and will use all means democratic or otherwise to secure it. Zanu PF will never implement the reforms to ensure free and fair elections; the party knows it’s 43 years in power was only possible because it rigged elections. Zanu PF will never reform itself out of power.
Nelson Chamisa and his MDC/CCC friends wasted the golden opportunity to implement reforms during the 2008 to 2013 GNU because they were corrupt and breathtakingly incompetent. They have since given up all hope to implement reforms and settled for a share of the spoils of power because there are still to this day corrupt and breathtakingly competent.
“If the elections are so flawed and illegal, then why are Zimbabwe’s opposition leaders participating in these elections in droves?” Mnangagwa has often argued. Of course, he has a point. Meanwhile he has increased the benefits of winning the few gravy train seats on offer to entice the opposition to participate in these flawed elections.
Since 2013 SADC leaders too have used the opposition’s greed as an excuse to grant Zanu PF legitimacy. And ANC will be banking on the same excuse to get the regional body to once again grant Zanu PF legitimacy and thus unwittingly deliver ANC’s objective of no regime change in Zimbabwe.
The real big losers here are the ordinary Zimbabweans who have paid dearly all these years for the reality of Zimbabwe as a failed state. Another five more years of this chaos, economic meltdown and hopelessness is unthinkable. But with Zanu PF, CCC and now ANC working to perpetuate the Zanu PF dictatorship, it is fait accompli!
SA is the regional superpower but still that does not give ANC the right to usurp the people of Zimbabwe’s right to decide who governs Zimbabwe! The last thing we want is another Russia in our neighbourhood!
CCC Change Champion in Chief Nelson Chamisa has appealed to the international community, particularly the Southern African Development Community (SADC), to ensure that Zimbabwe’s upcoming elections on 23 August are free and fair.
Chamisa is in South Africa where he held a rally in Johannesburg on Saturday, 24 June, and also called on Zimbabweans in the diaspora to go back home and vote. He said, as quoted by SABC News:
Zimbabweans are peace-loving people they need the support of the entire world. They need the support of the region and the continent.
Fellow Africans support our initiatives. Support our peace effort. Support our call for change and our cause for change.
We don’t want Zimbabwe to continue to be a headache for the region and the continent.
We want Zimbabwe to be a refugee and a safe place for Africa to also come.
Chamisa claimed the opposition won in the 2013 and 2018 general elections and stressed that this year CCC will not allow its “victory” to be stolen. He said:
We win not because the environment is conducive. We win not because the elections are free and fair.
We win against all odds and we win because we are supported by the people of Zimbabwe.
We won in 2018. Mr. Mnangagwa did what he did to try and subvert the will of the people.
This time we are not going to allow what they did in 2018 in 2023. We are going to win again but we have to win by a big margin.
The 45-year-old former ICT Minister dismissed self-exiled former Information Minister Jonathan Moyo’s claims that the opposition in Zimbabwe is weak. Chamisa said:
Facts are on the ground that the opposition is the next government in Zimbabwe.
The facts are on the ground that for all by-elections we won 19 out of 20. In the council elections we had out of 149 we won 89. So where you see tatters.
I think he is mistaking ZANU PF for the alternative. ZANU PF is the opposition because indeed come the 23 of August it is the opposition.
According to results announced by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) for the 2018 presidential race, President Emmerson Mnangagwa polled 50.8% of votes against Chamisa’s 44.3%.
Chamisa rejected the results alleging rigging and challenged them at the Constitutional Court seeking them nullified.
The CounCourt upheld the results and ruled that Chamisa failed to provide evidence that the election was rigged as he had alleged.
By A Correspondent| The opposition Democratic Union of Zimbabwe (DUZ) Party, led by Robert Chapman, has expelled two senior members after they wrote a letter advising the new entrant to back Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa.
The axed members are the party provincial secretary for Bulawayo Philani Gama and Lloyd Masiya from the same province.
The expulsion letter signed by DUZ secretary-general Pishai Muchauraya read in part:
“With immediate effect, this note serves to notify you of your expulsion from the Democratic Union of Zimbabwe for acts of gross misconduct and behaviour inconsistent with the values of the party and its code of conduct.”
A Party insider said the duo was expelled after urging Chapman to back CCC leader Nelson Chamisa’s presidential candidature.
Chapman withdrew from the presidential race despite his nomination papers having been approved by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) on 21 June.
He cited financial constraints, limited time until the voting day to address challenges around the voters’ roll, and extreme political polarisation as some of his reasons for withdrawing.
THE Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) is yet to furnish political parties with copies of the voters roll as it is still verifying nomination papers for all candidates.
The nomination courts sat on Wednesday to receive nomination papers for candidates countrywide.
“People were doing the nomination on Wednesday at the districts, we haven’t received the list so that we know those who were successful because we said we are going to give those successful for free,” Zec chief elections officer Utloile Silaigwana said in an interview.
Zec chief elections officer Utloile Silaigwana
“We are at the head office, we don’t know those successful in Lupane because we are still receiving papers, we don’t know those successful in Beitbridge because the process is not over, they will receive (the voters roll) after we are through with the process.”
Silaigwana said it was still early for Zec to distribute copies of the voters roll as they were still compiling the list of all successful candidates.
“The process is not over; we are yet to know for the whole country, we are talking of more than 2 000 councillors, more than 300 Members of Parliament, the process ended yesterday, can we have compiled all that and know who they are, so we are waiting for the papers, we told them that we are going to give them.”
He added that they managed to update the voters roll before the nomination court processes.
“The voters roll we used at the nomination courts was the latest. I don’t know whether there is someone who didn’t find their name, we didn’t hear of anyone who could not find their name, there is not even one candidate who said they couldn’t find their name, so do they want us to clean it until its torn?” Silaigwana asked.
“We told them that we are cleaning the voters roll in preparation of the nomination court and we have done that and we didn’t even receive one person who said they couldn’t find their name and could not file the papers at the nomination court because they couldn’t find their name.
By A Correspondent| Independent presidential candidate Saviour Kasukuwere has announced a “technical committee” for his campaign for the 23 August 2023 elections.
Kasukuwere’s Chief of Staff is Harare lawyer Munyaradzi Bwanya and his Spokesperson is Jacqueline Sande, another lawyer, according to a statement issued by the chairman of his campaign team, Walter Mzembi.
“As the presidential campaign for Saviour Kasukuwere gathers steam, I am pleased to announce the appointment of a Technical Committee of experts that will provide the necessary administrative support in the run-up to the General Elections.
“The Team compromises the following patriotic and capable Zimbabweans:
Chief of Staff: Mr. Munyaradzi Bwanya
Chief Election Agent & Presidential Spokesperson: Ms. Jacqueline Sande
Chief Legal Adviser: Mr. Munyaradzi Midzi
Head of Foreign Relations: Mr. Lloyd Msipa
Head of Communications & Stakeholder Management: Mr. Ali Naka.
Opposition Labour, Economists and African Democrats presidential candidate Linda Masarira has taken the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) to court for rejecting her nomination papers on Wednesday after she failed to raise the required US$20 000 fee.
Masarira wanted to pay using real time gross settlement, but the presiding insisted on cash or payment through the ZimSwitch Instant Payment Interchange Technology (Zipit) system.
In her notice of appeal filed at the High Court, Masarira cited an unnamed Zec presiding officer stationed at Mapondera Building in Harare, chief elections officer Utloile Silaigwana, Zec chairperson Priscilla Chigumba, Zec, and all the confirmed presidential candidates as respondents.
“Take notice that the appellant hereby appeals against the decision of the nomination court to reject her nomination as a candidate for election to the office of president,” Masarira’s notice read.
Masarira said some of the candidates were disqualified from lodging their papers on account of difficulties experienced in effecting payments of nomination fees largely due to the current challenges within the banking system.
She said her bank’s Zipit platform permits a limit of Z$2 500 000 per month and her card limit for the day was Z$1 500 000.
Masarira is seeking the court to declare the decision by the presiding officer null and void.
She also wants the court to declare her validly nominated as presidential candidate to enable her to contest in August 23 poll.

Exileds independent presidential aspirant Saviour Kasukuwere, has vowed to defy arrest threats and fly back to Harare to launch his election campaign.
Police said Kasukuwere had two pending warrants of arrest for absconding court and not surrendering his passport.
Justice ministry secretary Virginia Mabhiza told the State media on Saturday that Kasukuwere was expected to come home and face justice after he fled to neighbouring South Africa.
They claim the former Zanu-PF political commissar and Cabinet minister absconded court and failed to surrender his passport when ordered to do so by the courts in 2019.
Kasukuwere is one of the 11 candidates vying for the presidency in the August 23 poll.
Exiled former minister Walter Mzembi, who is chairperson of Kasukuwere’s campaign team, on Saturday accused President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration of “weaponising” the law against rivals.
Mzembi said Kasukuwere was unmoved and determined to launch his campaign on a soon-to-be announced date in the capital.
“No amount of intimidation and weaponisation ofthe law will intimidate Kasukuwere. He is going to be in Harare,” Mzembi said while addressing the media in South Africa on Saturday.
He said the only legal matter involving Kasukuwere was quashed by the country’s High Court.
There are fears in Zanu-PF that Kasukuwere may split the ruling party’s votes to the advantage of the opposition.
Kasukuwere told SABC News last week that he would soon fly to Zimbabwe and traverse the country canvassing for votes.
Kasukuwere said he was organising “500 buses or so” to transport Zimbabweans domiciled in neighbouring countries home to vote on August 23.
Meanwhile, the late President Robert Mugabe’s eldest son Robert (Junior) was among dignitaries at the Zanu-PF campaign launch in Chipinge on Saturday. This is not the firsttime Mugabe’s son has been to Zanu-PF events since the death of his father who vowed that he would not back people who “tormented” and elbowed him out of power in 2017.

By-Two females have tendered their applications for the hangman post as the position became vacant for a long time. This is despite the Government’s considering abolishing the death penalty.
However, the recruitment process has been shelved.
The Government — through the Ministry of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs — has completed nationwide consultations with the public and various stakeholders on a proposed move to abolish the death penalty.
Consultations were carried out in at least three districts of each province, by teams drawn from the ministry.
Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Permanent Secretary Mrs Virginia Mabiza confirmed the development to The Sunday Mail.
She said they are now awaiting funds from Treasury to refine the exercise, before making recommendations to Cabinet.
“I am told that consultations were done in all provinces, but they managed to carry them out in three districts per province.
“They then intend to go back to Government with their findings,” she said.
“We are going to make a summary and recommendations to
Cabinet.”
Mrs Mabiza added that once Cabinet gives the nod to the abolition of the death penalty, they will then undertake another process of amending the Constitution and statutes that govern the capital punishment provisions.
“We will be guided by Cabinet,” she said.
Mrs Mabiza said upon provision of funds by the Treasury, the ministry will need another three months to complete the process.
“Once Treasury provides the funds, we will start the process by July and expect to complete it by, say, September. By year-end, all will be done,” she said.
The consultative process prompted the Government to shelve the recruitment of a hangman.
President Mnangagwa has been on the forefront in calling for the abolition of the death sentence.
Section 48 of the Constitution allows execution of convicts aged between 21 and 70.
Women are spared from the death penalty.

By A Correspondent| Controversial socialite Acie Lumumba has claimed that Zanu PF members will not vote for Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Appearing on South African television channel, SABC, Lumumba real name Gerald Mutumanje said Mnangagwa will not win the August 23 elections as he is not popular even within his Zanu PF party.
“You think any Zanu PF members will vote for Emmerson Mnangagwa? In Zanu PF, you have the main wing, the women wing and the youth wing. The young people are not voting for Emmerson Mnangagwa, I would like to see who is voting, the women are not voting for Emmerson Mnangagwa I cannot articulate the reason, the main wing is not voting for Emmerson Mnangagwa, they are alienated, everybody in Zanu PF is looking for a fresh start, I am looking for a fresh start, let me explain what a fresh start is, the fresh start is an opportunity to re-set…” said Lumumba.
He also said former Zanu PF commissar was forced out of the party but remains very popular with the membership.
Kasukuwere has successfully filed his nomination papers and will be part of the 11 presidential candidates vying to occupy the top job come 23 August 2023.
He has hinted that he will soon return to Zimbabwe to campaign on the ground but the state owned Herald reported that two warrants of arrest awaits him.
By Wilbert Mukori | Long before war is declared and the first guns are fired, the body bags of the first casualties—the truth, always the truth—start to mount. South Africa’s ANC government is fighting for its political survival, and the truth is its first sacrificial lamb.
Successive ANC governments have ruled the country for the last 29 years and have screwed up big time. SA is now well on its way to becoming yet another failed African state; some people say it is a failed state already.
South Africa’s economic meltdown is caused by gross mismanagement, on the one hand. The ANC government went for the vote-winning strategy of connecting more and more electricity consumers to the grid and neglected the less noticeable part of investing in the generation and transmission plants, for example. The chickens have finally come home to roost, and the country is enduring wide-ranging electricity power cuts, emphatically euphemistically called loadshedding. The power shortage is so bad that even the country’s wealth-generating mines, industries, and essential services like hospitals were switched off too!
The major cause of South Africa’s economic meltdown is undoubtedly corruption. Everyone knows of the well-documented “State Capture” by the Gupta Brothers with the connivance of former ANC President Jacob Zuma. A recent “Gold Mafia” Al Jazeera documentary revealed that Zimbabwe was losing a staggering US$1.6 billion per year to gold smugglers. Many South African citizens and institutions were named in the gold smuggling and/or money laundering cases.
The ANC government has promised to end load-shedding and stamp out corruption. Easier said than done!
South Africans are going to the polls next year, and given the country’s history of holding free, fair, and credible elections (Nelson Mandela’s legacy), the ANC government is worried that the people will give the party the boot.
President Cyril Ramaphosa and his ANC friends are particularly worried should the ongoing 2023 Zimbabwe elections result in the Zanu PF regime being booted out of office. Zanu PF’s 43 years in power has been disastrous for Zimbabwe, so much so the country is a failed state – an undisputed a historic fact. The very fact that Zimbabweans have finally successfully booted out Zanu PF will galvanise South Africans to want to do the same.
If Zimbabwe was to notch up some significant economic recovery after booting out the corrupt, incompetent and tyrannical Zanu PF regime, this will turn the wave of ANC must go into an unstoppable tsunami! A modest economic recovery is certainly possible given the seriousness of Zimbabwe’s economic meltdown today, which is not a far cry from that in 2008. The Zimbabwe economy recovered to register a 12% growth rate in 2009 compared to a negative 6% in 2008 following the formation of the 2008–2013 GNU.
The ANC government is engaged in a pre-emptive rearguard fight to stop regime change in Zimbabwe at all costs!
In November last year, the ANC resolved that the party would not allow the West to achieve regime change in Zimbabwe through its imposition of economic sanctions. And ever since, the party, particularly Secretary General Filike Mbalula has returned to this theme with passion boarding on hysteria.
“Americans want regime change. Even here in Zimbabwe, Mbeki stood firm. They wanted Mugabe to change over night, and then they attacked us on quite a scale. The Americans can move in the afternoon, and by dinner time, Mugabe would be finished.” SG Mbalula told the ANC Western Cape 9th Provincial Conference on Friday, June 23, 2023.
“We do not subscribe to the regime change policy. That government must be changed willy-nilly through undemocratic means, through military power. We opposed the sanction and said these sanctions against Zimbabwe will be detrimental to the economic growth of that country.”
Zanu PF has never held free, fair, and credible elections since the country’s independence in 1980, and ANC leaders know that. In the watershed 2008 elections, Zanu PF’s blatant cheating and wanton violence were so outrageous that even the AU and SADC, which had turned a blind eye to Zanu PF vote rigging, could not do so then. It was none other than SADC leaders themselves who forced Zanu PF to agree to the need for the country to implement democratic reforms to ensure free and fair elections.
It is a great tragedy that the 2008–2013 GNU, whose primary task was to implement democratic reforms, failed to implement even one token reform. And so the Zanu PF regime emerges out of the GNU with all its dictatorial powers intact, including the power to rig elections. Zanu PF rigged the 2013 and 2018 elections and, in a similar fashion, is rigging these 2023 elections.
It is nonsensical that SG Mbalula should object to undemocratic regime change as a matter of principle when he knows the regime the ANC is protecting rigged the elections and therefore, per se, is politically illegitimate in the first place.
Zimbabwe was already in serious economic trouble, as evidenced by the country adopting the two five-year Economic Structural Adjustment Programmes (ESAP), 1990–94 and 1995–99, meant to revive the flagging economy. The much-hoped-for revival never happened. In 1999, the WB, IMF, and most Western country-related financial institutions stopped giving Zimbabwe any financial assistance because the country was failing to service its debts, much less repay them. This all happened well before the sanctions that were imposed in 2001.
The root causes of Zimbabwe’s economic ruin are gross mismanagement, rampant corruption, and brazen lawlessness, such as the seizure of white-owned farms to give to party loyalists. Zanu PF has enjoyed absolute power for the last 43 years because the party rigs elections, giving these problems time to spread and grow.
Zimbabwe is a failed state for the same reasons SA has been marching relentlessly towards the same goal: mismanagement, corruption, and lawlessness. Zimbabwe had a 14-year head start and no restraint forces thanks to the dictatorial powers ability to rig elections and claim absolute power.
The sanctions’ contribution to Zimbabwe’s economic meltdown is very small. Zanu PF propaganda has made sanctions a mountain out of a molehill.
What Zimbabwe needs to get out of this economic and political mess is implement the democratic reforms and thus cure the nation of the curse of rigged elections and bad governance.
The sanctions’ contribution to Zimbabwe’s economic meltdown is very small. Zanu PF propaganda has made sanctions a mountain out of a molehill. It is totally unacceptable that this ANC government should seek to impose this failed Zanu PF dictatorship on Zimbabwe under the pretext of fighting the Americans’ sanction-initiated regime change agenda.
“Mnangagwa conducted a coup d’etat and removed Mugabe. He implemented some reforms. And they will still not be satisfied until they get their puppet into power; they will never be satisfied. They want Chamisa, or is it Chancer?” ranted ANC SG Mbalula.
The military coup was just a musical chairs game; no one expected it to produce any meaningful economic changes, much less grand political changes such as free and fair elections. No one, that is, except SG Mbalula.
This ANC regime is hell-bent on keeping this corrupt and tyrannical Zanu PF dictatorship in power against the democratic wishes of the people of Zimbabwe.
The tragic reality for Zimbabwe is that both Zanu PF and the CCC do not care about democracy, free and fair elections, or good governance. All they care about is power, and they will use all means, democratic or otherwise, to secure it. Zanu PF will never implement the reforms to ensure free and fair elections; the party knows its 43 years in power were only possible because it rigged elections. Zanu-PF will never reform itself out of power.
Nelson Chamisa and his MDC/CCC friends wasted the golden opportunity to implement reforms during the 2008–2013 GNU because they were corrupt and breathtakingly incompetent. They have since given up all hope of implementing reforms and settled for a share of the spoils of power because they are still corrupt and breathtakingly competent.
“If the elections are so flawed and illegal, then why are Zimbabwe’s opposition leaders participating in these elections in droves?” Mnangagwa has often argued Of course, he has a point. Meanwhile, he has increased the benefits of winning the few gravy train seats on offer to entice the opposition to participate in these flawed elections.
Since 2013, SADC leaders too have used the opposition’s greed as an excuse to grant Zanu PF legitimacy. And the ANC will be banking on the same excuse to get the regional body to once again grant Zanu PF legitimacy and thus unwittingly deliver the ANC’s objective of no regime change in Zimbabwe.
The real big losers here are the ordinary Zimbabweans, who have paid dearly all these years for the reality of Zimbabwe as a failed state. Another five more years of this chaos, economic meltdown, and hopelessness are unthinkable. But with Zanu PF, the CCC, and now the ANC working to perpetuate the Zanu PF dictatorship, it is fait accompli!
SA is the regional superpower, but still, that does not give the ANC the right to usurp the people of Zimbabwe’s right to decide who governs Zimbabwe! The last thing we want is another Russia in our neighbourhood!- SOURCE:zimbabwelight.blogspot.com
By James Gwati-South Africa’s ruling party, the National Congress has defended Zanu PF and denounced the CCC’s Nelson Chamisa.
Fikile Mbalula, the ANC secretary general, said Emmerson Mnangagwa had implemented reforms in the post-Robert Mugabe administration and claimed that the west still wants the opposition to rule to become Zimbabwe.
Addressing the ANC 9th Western Cape Provincial Conference on Saturday, 24 June, Mbalula said:
(President) Mnangagwa brought some reforms in Zimbabwe, but they (the West) did not want those reforms because they want a man called (Nelson) Chamisa.
They want him there to be the leader; the new leader of a new Zimbabwe.
And then we say to the Americans and say to the British, give the Zimbabweans what they deserve, because you agreed in Lancaster that you would give them £40 billion for land reform and redistribution programme.
Meanwhile, Chamisa kicked off his campaign ahead of the August 23 elections by addressing Zimbabweans based in South Africa.
By- James Gwati- The opposition CCC leader, Nelson Chamisa, has revived national and international campaigns, pleading with his party supporters to fund the movement.
Chamisa, this weekend was in Johannesburg, South Africa.
He told his supporters in that country to support the CCC.
He said:
Lets us go back and mobilise, we count on you. We want you to help with resources, one rand or US$1 can make a huge difference.
Zambians did it, Malawians also did it, Kenyans also did it, they did it in DRC…if they are doing it, why can’t we also do it?
In the 2018 elections, Chamisa lost to Mnangagwa by a narrow margin, and he challenged the results in court, alleging rigging.
However, Mnangagwa’s victory was upheld by the Constitutional Court.
Zimbabwe Information Minister Monica Mutsvangwa’s Car Accident of Knowledge: Failure to Explain ZACC Acronym
By Farai D Hove | In a recent incident that has left many Zimbabweans baffled, the country’s Information Minister, Monica Mutsvangwa, was involved in a car accident of knowledge. This metaphorical collision occurred when Mutsvangwa failed to provide a coherent explanation of the well-known acronym ZACC, which stands for Zimbabwe Anti Corruption Commission. The incident took place during an interview with SABC’s Sophie Mokoena, where Mutsvangwa’s struggle to articulate a simple phrase raised concerns about her understanding of key government initiatives.
The Incident Unfolded
During the interview, Mutsvangwa was asked about the government’s efforts to combat corruption in Zimbabwe. Rather than providing a concise and informative response, the Information Minister stumbled and fumbled, eventually collapsing metaphorically on her backside at the lip of understanding. Her attempts to explain the meaning of the ZACC acronym showcased a severe lack of basic knowledge.
Confusion and Failed Narration
When confronted with the question about the government’s stance on corruption and the role of ZACC, Mutsvangwa’s response was nothing short of bewildering. She initially stated, “We don’t want corruption either. Corruption actually brings the country’s economy down.” While this statement may seem like a generic response, it failed to address the specific question asked.
As the pressure mounted, Mutsvangwa struggled further, attempting to piece together an explanation for the acronym ZACC. Her stumbling response included phrases such as “Zimbabwe, eeeh, Corruption,” “Corporation,” and “Company,” showing her inability to recall the correct words despite holding a prominent government position.
Mockery and Criticism
This incident comes on the heels of Defence Minister Oppah Muchinguri’s recent criticism of Mutsvangwa, accusing her of wasting work time and resources at ZBC (Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation) to promote herself. The mockery directed at Mutsvangwa by her colleague further highlights concerns about her competence and effectiveness as the Information Minister.
Importance of ZACC and Fighting Corruption
The Zimbabwe Anti Corruption Commission (ZACC) plays a crucial role in combating corruption within the country. It is responsible for investigating and prosecuting cases related to corruption, aiming to restore public trust, promote accountability, and safeguard the economy. The failure of the Information Minister to explain the acronym undermines the government’s credibility in its fight against corruption.
Monica Mutsvangwa’s inability to provide a basic explanation of the widely recognized acronym ZACC has raised serious concerns about her knowledge and competence as the Information Minister of Zimbabwe. Her confusing and disjointed response during the interview has drawn criticism and mockery, reflecting poorly on the government’s commitment to combating corruption.
