By Business Reporter- Zimbabweans have the potential to overcome economic challenges, including inflation, currency instability, and limited access to foreign currency, through concerted collaborative efforts, a top local business executive has said.
Speaking recently in Gweru at the Zimbabwe Chamber of Commerce, Midlands chapter, WestProp Holdings CEO Mr Ken Sharpe said the economy could swiftly rebound if all stakeholders collaborate.
“My call to action to you is: Let us all commit to working together to build a more prosperous Zimbabwe. Let us embrace collaboration as a key driver of our economic success. For once, let us put aside our differences because a thriving economy benefits us all,” he said, “It is no secret that we have faced economic challenges in recent years, including high inflation, currency instability, and limited access to foreign capital. These challenges have hampered business growth and job creation. However, I am firmly convinced that we can overcome these obstacles and build a brighter future. But I cannot do it alone, and you cannot do it alone. Collaboration is essential for our success.”
Mr Sharpe challenged Zimbabweans to align their mindsets towards working together, realising that their success lies in their hands and that no one else is coming to save them.
“We are our own saviors; however, to save ourselves, we need to start working together and collaborate,” he stated.
To successfully build a thriving economy, Mr. Sharpe advocated for creating a supportive and enabling environment for businesses through public-private partnerships (PPP).
He cited the PPP that WestProp Holdings has with the City of Harare as a prime example. “We have our own public-private partnership with the City of Harare for the development of The Hills Lifestyle Estate – a US$ 300 million project that will bring a world-class, USGA spec golf course to our country as well as luxurious branded residences – a first in Zimbabwe. We recently broke ground,” he said.
Mr. Sharpe further highlighted the potential of the Victoria Falls Stock Exchange (VFEX) as another successful collaborative venture.
“The VFEX is a regional stock exchange that allows companies from Zimbabwe and other African countries to raise capital and nurture mutually-beneficial business relationships. This collaboration between Zimbabwe and other countries has the potential to boost investment and economic growth across the region,” he noted.
He concluded by saying that collaboration can also be achieved through bilateral and multilateral relations between countries and international organisations.
By fostering partnerships and working together, Mr. Sharpe believes Zimbabwe can create a thriving economy and a brighter future for all its citizens.

“…Sometimes you women complain saying I am tired, I am this; allow the girlfriend to do the job..”
Analysis: The Controversial Advice of Anna Chibaby Honde on Marriage and Infidelity
“I want to address people who want to leave their marriage, saying my man is cheating, my man is doing this. Where would you find a man who put aside to cheat? There is no man who doesn’t cheat.
“For a relationship to be successful, you need to be a communion of many. Sometimes you women complain saying I am tired, I am this, allow the girlfriend to do the job. If you can’t do the job, stop complaining. And stop this thing of giving up in your marriages, don’t give up.
“Next time, give the man condoms and then he goes and does whatever he does and he comes back to you. The fact that he took you and put you into the house and made you the official wife, be grateful, you are official! If there is a funeral, you are there; if there is a wedding, he is with you. I am tired!”
Anna Chibaby Honde, a social media personality, recently made waves with these contentious remarks about marriage and infidelity. Her statements have sparked a heated debate, revealing deep-seated issues about relationship dynamics, gender roles, and societal expectations. This analysis delves into the pros and cons of her advice.
Pros of Honde’s Advice
Realistic Acknowledgement of Infidelity: Honde’s advice confronts the often-taboo topic of infidelity head-on. By acknowledging that cheating can happen in marriages, she opens up a dialogue that many couples may need to have but often avoid. This could potentially lead to more honest and transparent relationships where partners are more aware of each other’s behaviors and expectations.
Encouragement of Marital Perseverance: Honde emphasizes the importance of not giving up on marriage easily. In a time when divorce rates are high, her message could be seen as a call to work through difficulties rather than opting for separation at the first sign of trouble. This perspective might encourage couples to seek counseling and find solutions to their issues.
Pragmatic Solutions: Suggesting that wives should sometimes allow the “girlfriend” to take over if they are unable to fulfill certain roles might seem controversial, but it also underscores the need for practical solutions to marital problems. By suggesting the use of condoms, Honde implicitly promotes safer sexual practices, which is crucial in preventing sexually transmitted infections.
Cons of Honde’s Advice
Normalization of Infidelity: Honde’s advice risks normalizing infidelity by suggesting that cheating is an inevitable part of marriage. This can undermine trust and fidelity, which are foundational to any healthy relationship. It also perpetuates the stereotype that men are inherently unfaithful, which is not only unfair but also untrue for many men.
Gender Inequality: Her advice heavily leans on traditional gender roles where the wife is expected to tolerate her husband’s infidelities. This perpetuates a power imbalance and could contribute to the emotional and psychological distress of women. It suggests that women’s feelings and desires are secondary to men’s, reinforcing patriarchal norms.
Undermining the Value of Official Status: While Honde highlights the importance of being the “official wife,” this status might come at the cost of self-respect and personal boundaries. Encouraging women to be grateful simply for being chosen as the official partner can be demeaning and may prevent them from seeking more equitable and respectful relationships.
Anna Chibaby Honde’s advice has sparked a necessary debate on the realities of modern marriages and infidelity. While her perspectives might encourage some to persevere through marital challenges, they also risk perpetuating harmful stereotypes and gender inequalities. The key takeaway is that every relationship is unique, and couples should strive for mutual respect, communication, and fidelity according to their own values and agreements. Balancing realism with respect for both partners’ needs is essential for healthy and fulfilling marriages.
In a dramatic turn of events in Nyawisa village, Lucky Chingwengwe, 19, was brought before the Karoi Magistrate Court on charges of stock theft.
The incident, which has left the community both shocked and bemused, highlights the lengths to which some individuals might go to fulfill traditional customs.
On the evening of April 12, 2024, the court heard, the complainant had penned his cattle at Dabvu homestead and returned home for the night.
Under the cover of darkness, Chingwengwe allegedly sneaked into the complainant’s kraal and untied a black cow with curved horns. His motive was clear: to use the stolen cow as lobola, a traditional bride price.
The plan unraveled when Ian Wamiridza, who had come into possession of the cow, was questioned.
Upon further probing, Wamiridza revealed that Chingwengwe had brought the beast to him, thus linking Chingwengwe directly to the theft.
In court, Chingwengwe faced the consequences of his actions. Found guilty of the crime, he was sentenced to nine years in jail.
The sentence underscores the serious nature of stock theft in rural communities, where livestock is a valuable and vital asset.
This case has stirred conversations about the pressures of cultural obligations and the extremes to which individuals may go to meet these demands.
While the tradition of paying lobola is deeply respected, the illegal means by which Chingwengwe attempted to fulfill this obligation has led to significant repercussions for him and serves as a cautionary tale for others in the community.
RE: Demand for Payment and Resolution of Contractual Dispute
We are writing in regard to an agreement entered into between Better Brands Security (Pvt) Ltd and yourselves on the 13th of February 2023. Our agreement was to partner with you to participate in tenders in Zimbabwe for election materials.
We have attached the contract for your reference. This was done after a meeting between Moses Mpofu, Wicknell Chivayo, and the ZEC chairperson, Honorable Chigumba held at your premises in Johannesburg on the 2nd of February 2023; we will attach the photos taken on the particular meeting day.
After we signed the contract under Better Brands, you conspired with one of our partners in the project, Mr. Wicknell Chivayo, and unilaterally changed the contract to his company, Intratek. Our agreement stated that you would pay our agreed commission into the FNB account for Better Brands. However, for reasons known to you, you decided to cancel our agreement without the consent of both parties. The cancellation of that agreement was fraudulently done. We have attempted to engage with you on several times, but you have chosen to continue making payments to Mr. Wicknell Chivayo.
In this letter, we are writing to you in confidence to find a settlement. We will attach some of the proof of payments from the Zimbabwe Government Treasury department. We have the invoice you have charged ZEC and are aware of the profits being made. For example, we are in possession of the initial quotation dated the 20th of February 2023, valued at US$2,673,360.00 with quotation no. Q20022023_211.
Additionally, we have the subsequent quotation that you sent to ZEC, with the value inflated to US$8,964,603.80, which is approximately a 235% increment. We are aware that as soon as funds are received into your Standard Bank account number 002742659 held at Southdale Branch, you immediately transfer more than 66% of the money received to Wicknell Chivayo’s Intratek bank accounts.
This is clear evidence of your participation in money laundering, where you are overcharging the Government of Zimbabwe and sending the overcharged money to individual accounts. This is in violation of South African laws and international laws.
Please be advised that most of the individuals involved in this money laundering are on the US Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) sanctions list. Therefore, you are assisting sanctioned individuals to hide money, which is a very serious offense. If this comes to light with the Department of the US Treasury, you will be in serious trouble. The Reserve Bank of South Africa will sanction you if they become aware of your illicit activities.
Of interest, please note that Mr. Wicknell Chivayo is misleading you by claiming that he is giving top government officials of Zimbabwe part of the payment he is receiving. That is a total lie; even the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe is unaware that he is getting huge commissions using his name. This money has driven him crazy and that’s why, if you check his social media, he is on a buying spree of cars, donating to different individuals across the country, yet he is failing to pay us what we agreed. We expect 25% of all the monies paid out to Wicknell Chivayo. Our suggestion is for you to hold all incoming payments and not pay Wicknell Chivayo until you put us all on a round table to resolve this matter. There is no need to cover up for one greedy individual and risk getting your company in trouble with the authorities because you are trying to protect one person. Please reflect if this is worth the risk to your business, which we all know you operate legitimately. We urge you to consider the repercussions of your actions carefully.
Your continued involvement in these fraudulent activities will not only damage your reputation but also put your company at significant risk of legal repercussions. We are giving you 7 days to provide us with a workable solution so that we can recover the money owed to us.
Failure to comply will force us to take necessary steps to bring this matter to the attention of all relevant authorities, including all news outlets. We could have gone through our lawyers and sought relief from the court, but we prefer not to air our dirty laundry in public.

The election map highlights the ANC’s stronghold in various regions (marked in yellow), with notable support for the DA (blue) and EFF (red) in their respective strongholds. Other regions show a patchwork of support for smaller parties, indicating a highly competitive and fragmented electoral environment.

The ANC’s leading position demonstrates its enduring influence, while the DA and EFF’s substantial support reflects a desire for alternative governance among a significant portion of the electorate.
Stay tuned for further updates as more results are declared and the final composition of the National Assembly becomes clear.
By Political Reporter- Parliament speaker Jacob Mudenda has revoked the appointment of a faction of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) led by Jameson Timba to the House of Assembly portfolio point persons positions.
Timba, the pro-Nelson Chamisa CCC faction’s Chief Administrator, wrote to Mudenda this week naming Chipinge South MP Clifford Hlatwayo as CCC’s leader of the house with Nomathemba Ndlovu, the proportional representation MP for Matabeleland South, as the Chief Whip.
On Tuesday, Mudenda told MPs he made a mistake by acting on Timba’s letter. He then invited a rival faction led by Welshman Ncube and Sengezo Tshabangu to submit its list of leaders in parliament. He said:
On Thursday, February 15, 2024, I made an announcement in the House on the appointment of several members of the CCC party to various portfolios in parliament.
The announcement was based on a letter authored by one Mr Jameson Timba, purporting to be the interim leader of the CCC party.
On reflection, I should not have acted upon that letter as facts now thereof before me show that Jameson Timba had no locus standi to represent a party in such a manner as I will outline below.
Jameson Timba was recalled from the Senate by the CCC party on November 7, 2023, the party which he purported to represent as the acting leader and administrator.
Jameson Timba challenged the recall in the High Court under case number HCH 6684/23 with other former members of the CCC party and lost the court case.
He was also among the former members of the CCC party whom the High Court barred on December 9, 2023, from contesting the February 3, 2024, by-elections under the CCC party following Sengezo Tshabangu’s application to block them from participating in the polls under the CCC banner.
Considering that Jameson Timba had been recalled by the same CCC party he was purporting to represent and that he was also banned by the courts from contesting under the banner of the same CCC party, his communication to parliament and the appointments made thereafter, are therefore null and void.
Accordingly, I am rescinding the announcement on February 15, 2024, and referring the matter back to the CCC party to make the appropriate appointments.
The other CCC MPs who were assigned to various committees were Hamauswa Shakespear (Deputy Chief Whip);Chalton Hwende (Public Accounts); Joanah Mamombe (Environment & Climate); Lesley Mhangwa (Energy & Power Development); Daniel Molokele (Health and Child Care); Caston Matewu (Information); Minenhle Gumede (Higher Education) and Surrender Kapoikulu (ICT).
Timba reportedly leads a CCC faction loyal to the party’s former leader, Nelson Chamisa who quit the party in January claiming infiltration.
The other faction, which is recognised by the State, was formerly led by Tshabangu, who has recognised Welshman Ncube as the new CCC leader.
Ncube will likely secure government recognition as the Leader of the Opposition, an official title that would come with perks, and also receive CCC’s share of funds from the State under the Political Parties (Finance) Act.

This follows the unfair dismissal of two security guards who approached the courts for justice.
A notice of attachment in possession of ZimEye shows that Zimbabwe Red Cross Society had its Toyota S/Wagon attached for as US$5863.25 compensation to the dismissed security guards.
By A Correspondent| Social media has gone into an overdrive amid reports that Gold Star offices in Workington, Harare have been converted into a lodge.
Zimbabweans are saying this confirms that the once vibrant economy has been reduced to the ground with most corporates cutting on costs including workers.
“The head office for Zimbabwe Sugar Refinery in Workington heavy industrial area is now a lodge, which shows that lodges are now more profitable than manufacturing in Zimbabwe. It’s now called Orange Star lodge,” reads a post on social media.
Already there is an ongoing debate and banter on social media where people claim that the only viable industries in the country at the moment is opening a church or running a bottle store.
Some even argue that the most profitable businesses in the country at the moment are Delta and Econet meaning that people only spend time on social media and bottle stores.
Now lodges have also emerged at a good business due to the noise around ‘mjolo’.

It is alleged that three men broke into Unkemetsi Maphosa’s shop at Buvuma Shopping Centre before shooting him on the pelvis.

Masvingo, Zimbabwe | By A Correspondent | ZimEye | In a shocking turn of events, ZANU PF Masvingo youth chairperson Delight Mandebvu, known for his dramatic flair, is now facing an arrest warrant after allegedly duping the court with false injury claims. Mandebvu, who is charged with three counts of assault, failed to appear in court today, prompting Magistrate Elizabeth Hanzi to issue the warrant.
Mandebvu’s charges arise from an incident on March 3, 2024, where he allegedly assaulted prominent Masvingo lawyer and former mayor Collen Maboke, his wife Tariro, and a relative Simbarashe Matyei after their vehicles sideswiped along the Masvingo-Bikita road. The accused appeared in court two weeks ago, dramatically limping with crutches and sporting a plaster on his left leg, claiming Maboke had run him over.
Despite his theatrical court appearance, video footage has emerged showing Mandebvu dancing energetically and participating in election activities in South Africa. The footage, which surfaced online last week, depicts Mandebvu clad in ANC regalia, dancing and toyi-toying with vigor, casting doubt on his alleged injuries.
Prosecutor Godknows Mugondo, citing Mandebvu’s failure to show up or communicate with the court, applied for the arrest warrant. The court’s patience ran out as Mandebvu’s antics became increasingly questionable.
In a letter dated May 27, 2024, Mandebvu’s lawyers, Machaya and Associates, informed the prosecutor that their client was in South Africa on national duty, as part of a ZANU PF youth contingent supporting the African National Congress (ANC) in their national elections. The letter requested a postponement of the trial to June, asserting Mandebvu would return on May 30, 2024.
“Please note that our client indeed advised us of the date, however we are requesting a postponement of the matter to any date in June. This has been caused by the fact that our client is out on national duty in South Africa where he is part of the ZANU PF youth league observer team. He will be back on 30 May 2024…We are proposing the 10th of June 2024 as the trial date,” reads part of the letter.
Mandebvu’s initial court appearance two weeks ago was marked by his claims of being unable to walk and needing time to find a lawyer outside the province, alleging local lawyers were shunning him. Last Tuesday, he returned to court, pleading for another week to secure legal representation.
However, the recent footage of him energetically participating in election rallies in South Africa starkly contrasts his court demeanor, leading to questions about the authenticity of his injury claims. The court, now skeptical of Mandebvu’s dramatics, has issued the warrant to ensure he stands trial.
This latest development adds a dramatic twist to the legal proceedings, with Mandebvu’s theatrics under the spotlight as the case continues to unfold amidst South Africa’s high-stakes election season.
Chief Shumba Hwenje, a musician closely associated with Zimbabwe’s ruling Zanu PF party and reportedly a relative of President Emmerson Mnangagwa, is set to release a new album this Friday. Known for his songs that often echo the sentiments and ideologies of Zanu PF, Hwenje’s latest work is anticipated to continue in this vein.
Zanu PF announced the upcoming album launch through an official statement on Tuesday, highlighting the event scheduled for May 31.
“31 May Chief Shumba Hwenje Album Launch I Don’t Care,” the statement read, reflecting the title of the new album and signaling the party’s endorsement of Hwenje’s musical endeavors.
Chief Shumba Hwenje has built a reputation for his music, which frequently features lyrics laden with propaganda supporting Zanu PF and, at times, delivering intimidating messages.
His previous works have been a staple at party rallies and events, solidifying his role as a vocal supporter of the current political establishment.
The upcoming album is expected to attract considerable attention, both from supporters of Zanu PF and critics who question the implications of his politically charged lyrics.
As the launch date approaches, discussions about the intersection of music and politics in Zimbabwe are likely to intensify, with Chief Shumba Hwenje’s latest project at the center of the debate.
The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has appointed Kalisto Pasuwa as the Malawi U-23 coach.
Pasuwa, who is currently the defending Malawian Premier League champions Nyasha Big Bullets coach, will assume the role with immediate effect.
According to Malawian publication The Nation, FAM will send the U-23s side to this year’s edition of the COSAFA Cup in South Africa and Pasuwa will preside over the regional tournament.
The appointment comes just two weeks after Pasuwa reportedly rejected the then vacant Warriors job, which the ZIFA Normalisation Committee eventually gave to Manica Diamonds coach Jairos Tapera.
In a decisive statement on Tuesday, Zanu PF Information Director Farai Marapira declared that the 2023 polls “have come and gone.”
“Elections have come and gone. Issue of elections is a foregone conclusion,” Marapira stated, emphasizing that the ruling party views the election process as complete and closed.
Marapira’s comments come amid ongoing debates and tensions surrounding the electoral process and its outcomes.
His assertion that the focus should now shift away from electoral issues to more pressing national concerns was clear.
“We are seized with nation-building matters,” he added, underscoring the party’s intention to prioritize developmental agendas over lingering electoral disputes.
In his address, Marapira did not shy away from criticizing the opposition.
He took a sharp jab at Advocate Nelson Chamisa, the leader of the main opposition party, describing him as a “political clown.”
This comment reflects the deep-seated animosity and rivalry between Zanu PF and the opposition, particularly in the aftermath of the elections.
As Zanu PF seeks to move forward, Marapira’s remarks highlight the party’s resolve to concentrate on governance and development, dismissing any further contention over the electoral process.
However, the opposition’s reaction to these statements and the potential implications for Zimbabwe’s political landscape remain to be seen.
Reports say the husband and wife were teachers at different schools in the area.
What escalated the matter was that the wife had accused him of cheating with a woman living in the same premises as them. The woman shot the man with his own gun as he tried to flee while being confronted about his alleged cheating.
The paramedics were called to the scene on Monday morning and found the 32-year-old man lying in a pool of blood.

He is also alleged to have shot John Muchawaya thrice: once on the left knee, once on the right ankle and once on the left thigh.
Muchawaya sustained three gunshot wounds and he is currently admitted at Kwekwe General Hospital.
Further allegations are that the accused person hit Lovemore Mapfanya once on the head with a fist.
Mapfanya fled from the scene and filed a Police report leading to the arrest of the accused person.
Cai was remanded in custody and will appear in court again on 11 June 2024.
By Political Reporter- Zanu PF President Emerson Mnangagwa has yet to deliver on his promise of title deeds to the residents of Epworth, a pledge he made during the run-up to the 2023 national elections.
A month before the elections, Mnangagwa assured Epworth residents that 11,000 title deeds would be issued.
The Cabinet endorsed the Kwangu/Ngakwami Presidential Title Deeds Programme to provide the necessary financial and technical support.
Mnangagwa even distributed 265 securitized title deeds at the program’s launch at Epworth High School, promising more to come.
However, only a few ZANU PF activists were selected to receive these title deeds, leading to allegations that the government has “forgotten” about the project. According to a source: “Only a few were issued, those with close ties to ZANU PF. Land barons led by John Mabwe (coordinator and spokesperson for Kushinga Epworth Residents Trust) and Moyo are holding Epworth Local Board at ransom contesting the authenticity of the layout plans and general plans of Epworth… the surveyor general up to now is sleeping on duty.”
Mabwe highlighted discrepancies with the layout plan, noting it did not match a map from 2001 when squatters received occupiers’ cards. He stated: “The layout plan that was used does not match the map. We have simply challenged this. A lot of elderly widows and orphans were left out of the 2022 layout plan which was not even approved by the Surveyor-General. We want title deeds as early as yesterday but we want the right procedure to be followed and the right people to benefit.”
Further complicating the issue, Mabwe pointed out irregularities in Ward 6 (Overspill Extension): “The council pegged stands using a fake layout plan of Plan number H.O.F 8 and increased them from 3,856 to 3,904 to benefit some council officials. So the regularisation process is very scandalous. Council is doing what the High Court interdicted. That’s contempt of court.”
Epworth Town Secretary Wilton Mhanda declined to comment on the matter when approached by NewsDay.
Epworth North legislator Zivai Mhetu clarified that residents had received deeds of grant, not title deeds. He explained: “There is a difference between a deed of grant and a title deed. Development has to take place first, for instance, the installation of roads, among others. When this happens, Epworth residents will be able to receive title deeds in both paper and digital form. Hence, I will be lobbying Parliament for the construction of roads in Epworth.”
A title deed is a legal document that provides proof of ownership over property, real estate, and sometimes vehicles, establishing ownership rights and serving as evidence of ownership. In contrast, a grant deed indicates the transfer of property or real estate from one party to another but does not necessarily provide proof of ownership.

I strongly feel that statement by Nelson Chamisa is in response to the media reports that President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa and the Welshman-led CCC are having dialogue in the background.
Chamisa has always wanted to be part of the dialogue from day one.
But now he cant be part to it since he resigned from the CCC, the party that sponsored his candidature in the August 2023 elections and that can only be done by those actually or purporting to be leading the CCC.
He knows that he lost the plot and cant stomach it that whatever is going to agreed on will be done without him being involved.
He realised it very late that he misfired by prematurely resigning from the CCC being the reason why his people like Timba are still claiming to the leaders of CCC Infact some insiders say that there were proposals to reinstate Chamisa as the CCC leader so that he has locus standi to demand involvement in the said engagements going on in the background.
Therefore this statement seems to be an attempt to take himself in through the backdoor given that he was the CCC Presidential candidate.
By Farai D Hove | ZimEye |In a significant move to combat the rising number of traffic accidents and fatalities, the Government has announced plans to raise the minimum age for bus and kombi drivers to 30. This new regulation is aimed at ensuring that only mature and experienced drivers are operating public service vehicles.
The decision comes in response to alarming statistics showing over 2,000 road traffic accident-related deaths annually, with reckless driving being the primary culprit. By increasing the age limit, the Government hopes to enhance road safety by placing more experienced drivers behind the wheel.
During a Question and Answer session in the Senate last Thursday, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Development, Felix Mhona, revealed that the Ministry is actively working on synchronizing the age limit for public service vehicle drivers.
“I am sure the legal department in my Ministry is working with the Attorney General in that regard and we are saying for public vehicles, we were sticking to 25 years and we are now advocating to increase,” said Mhona.
The proposed change marks a shift from the current minimum age of 25, reflecting a strategic approach to addressing the root causes of traffic incidents. The Government’s initiative underscores its commitment to improving road safety and reducing the human and economic toll of traffic accidents.
Further details on the implementation timeline and any transitional provisions for current drivers are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
By Crime and Courts Reporter – Police have arrested five Chinese nationals for the unlawful cremation of a body without consent from the deceased’s relatives.
The five individuals have been convicted and fined US$200 each by a Harare magistrate, Ruth Moyo.
Chen Ying, 44, Xia Wexing, 40, Guo Weilin, 32, Yan Qi, 36, and Wang Huasheng, 35, were convicted based on their own guilty pleas after admitting to cremating the body of Huang Tian Song.
Huang died on May 22 this year at the Trauma Centre in Harare.
In passing the sentence, Magistrate Moyo noted that the five “did not waste the court’s time and were quick to plead.” Prosecutor Nomsa Kangara detailed the events, stating that on May 22, Huang Tian Song, a Chinese national, died at the Trauma Centre in Borrowdale, Harare.
The five accused, acting in common purpose, took the body to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals for a post-mortem.
They then visited the Registrar General’s Office to acquire a burial order on May 22, 2024. Kangara explained: “After obtaining the burial order, the accused connived and produced a false document in the form of an affidavit in Ying’s name, purporting to have been granted permission by the deceased’s relatives, and caused the body of the deceased to be cremated by Monson Funeral Parlour.”
The court ordered the five to pay the fine by June 7 or face three months of imprisonment.

From Chimanimani to America’s Stage: The Inspiring Journey of Learnmore Jonas.
By Showbiz Reporter | ZimEye | In a tale that echoes the dreams of many young Africans, Learnmore Jonas from Chimanimani, Zimbabwe, has taken the United States by storm, lighting up the stage of America’s Got Talent (AGT) and winning the hearts of millions. Without the shadow of dubious donations like those of Wicknell Chivayo, Jonas has built his success on pure talent and relentless perseverance.
Four years ago, Learnmore Jonas was just another young man in Zimbabwe, creating imaginary skits and dreaming big. Today, he stands as a shining example of how far passion and hard work can take you. His meteoric rise began with his audition on AGT, where his performance was so captivating that it earned him a golden buzzer, catapulting him straight to the live shows.
Jonas’s humor, creativity, and unique storytelling brought the house down, even leaving the notoriously tough Simon Cowell over the moon with his presentation. The performance, now reshared widely on ZimEye, showcases a young man who has not only made Zimbabwe proud but has also inspired countless young people around the world.
“Learnmore Jonas, you are an example that young people do not need Victor’s aquas to rise to the top; they have enough mercs and Toyotas inside them to take over the world,” a commentator on ZimEye aptly remarked. This sentiment captures the essence of Jonas’s journey – that with determination, creativity, and belief in oneself, the sky is not the limit, but just the beginning.
Jonas’s story is more than just a personal triumph; it is a beacon of hope for young Africans everywhere. It proves that dreams are valid and achievable, regardless of one’s background. It shows that with dedication, even the most far-fetched dreams can become reality.
Fadzayi Mahere Questions Speaker Jacob Mudenda’s Authority Over Portfolio Committee Appointments
By A Correspondent | ZimEye | In a bold statement, prominent Zimbabwean lawyer and politician Fadzayi Mahere has publicly questioned the legal authority of Speaker of Parliament Jacob Mudenda regarding his recent actions to reverse appointments of chairs of parliamentary portfolio committees. Mahere’s pointed critique comes in response to Mudenda’s controversial decision, which she argues is both legally and constitutionally unsound.
Mahere began by challenging the legal foundation of Mudenda’s actions, stating, “In terms of what law does the Speaker of Parliament have the power to reverse appointments made by a political party regarding chairs of portfolio committees, especially when he has announced the appointments and the chairs have begun their work?”
Her statement reflects growing concerns about the Speaker’s unilateral decisions affecting the structure and function of parliamentary committees, which are vital for legislative oversight and governance.
Furthermore, Mahere highlighted what she perceives as inconsistency in Mudenda’s application of his powers. “When a charlatan purported to recall MPs, the Honourable Speaker acted on the letter claiming to have no power to inquire into the authenticity or legality of the fraudulent letter. Where does he suddenly get this power now? Does the ‘power’ depend on whether or not he likes the person making the appointments? What law is that?”
This reference to past events underscores the controversy surrounding the recall of MPs, where Mudenda’s actions were criticized for lacking due diligence. Mahere suggests a troubling double standard in the Speaker’s application of authority, raising questions about impartiality and legality.
In her critique, Mahere also addressed the constitutional implications of Mudenda’s actions. “Which provision of the Constitution, Standing Orders or any statute empowers the Speaker to declare a political party’s internal officers ‘null and void’? Given that only a court of law can declare invalidity, is it not this very announcement that is null and void?”
By questioning the constitutional and statutory basis for Mudenda’s decision, Mahere underscores the potential overreach of parliamentary authority into matters traditionally reserved for judicial review.
Mahere concluded with a poignant reflection on the state of Zimbabwe’s legislative integrity: “When the House that is meant to make law, breaks law, what hope is there for the rule of law, constitutionalism, and sound legal order? Why reduce the august House to a farcical den of contradiction and illegality?”
Her statement is a call to uphold the principles of legality and constitutionalism, warning against the erosion of the rule of law within the highest legislative body of the country.
As this controversy unfolds, it remains to be seen how Mudenda and other parliamentary leaders will respond to these serious allegations. The situation continues to spark debate over the limits of parliamentary authority and the need for adherence to legal and constitutional norms in Zimbabwe’s governance.
By A Correspondent| Speaker of Parliament Jacob Mudenda has dismissed Citizens Coalition for Change parliamentary leadership as communicated by Jameson Timba in February this year.
Mudenda yesterday shocked the country when he dissolved all parliamentary committee chairpersons, Chief Whips and leader of the opposition positions as announced by Timba leaving the ball in self proclaimed Interim Secretary General Sengezo Tshabangu to appoint his people to those key positions.
“On Thursday 15th February, 2024, I made an announcement in the House on the appointment of several Members of the CCC Party to various portfolios in Parliament. The announcement was based on a letter authored by one Mr. Jameson Timba, purporting to be the interim leader of the CCC Party.
“On reflection, I should not have acted upon that letter as facts now thereof before me show that Jameson Timba had no locus standi to represent a party in such a manner,” said Mudenda.
Commenting on the issue, former Mt Pleasant legislator Fadzayi Mahere questioned Mudenda’s power to reverse appointments made by a political party in parliament.
“In terms of what law does the Speaker of Parliament have the power to reverse appointments made by a political party regarding chairs of portfolio committees, especially when he has announced the appointments and the chairs have begun their work?,” said Mahere.
“Which provision of the Constitution, Standing Orders or any statute empowers the Speaker to declare a political party’s internal officers “null and void”? Given that only a court of law can declare invalidity, is it not this very announcement that is null and void?,” added Mahere.
On 15 February 2024, Timba announced the appointment of Hon Clifford Hlatywayo as Leader of the opposition in parliament, Hon Sessel Zvidzai Senate Chief Whip, Lower House Chief Whip & Overall Whip – Hon Nomathemba Ndlovu and Deputy Chief Whip – Hon Doc Shakespeare Hamauswa among other appointments.
Now Tshabangu has to announce a new leadership made up of his loyalists.

HIGH Court Judge, Justice Esther Muremba has recused herself from hearing Harare Businessman Neville Mutsvangwa and his alleged accomplices’ matter.
Mutsvangwa together with Elisse Majachani and Simbarashe Tichingana who are accused of illegally dealing in foreign currency were set to have their bail ruling delivered this Monday.
In a new development, Justice Muremba this Monday said she could not be the presiding judge in Mutsvangwa’s matter, citing personal reasons.
The trio’s lawyer says they are now waiting for the Judge President to appoint a new judge to handle the matter.
Harare, Zimbabwe— By Court Correspondent | ZimEye | The legal proceedings against Neville Mutsvangwa have encountered a significant delay following the recusal of Justice Esther Muremba. Mutsvangwa, who faces charges of illegal foreign currency dealings and possession of an unlicensed Starlink router, remains in jail as the court registrar works to re-assign his case to a new judge.
Going to prison…Neville Mutsvangwa
#### Background and Charges
Neville Mutsvangwa, a prominent figure, is charged with three counts of illegal foreign currency dealings and one count of possessing an unlicensed Starlink router. These charges carry serious legal implications, reflecting the government’s intensified scrutiny on financial crimes and unlicensed telecommunications equipment.
#### Judicial Recusal
Justice Esther Muremba’s recusal from the case has raised concerns about potential judicial interference. According to sources, Justice Muremba cited personal reasons for her decision to step down after reportedly feeling pressured following a summons to the State House. This development has sparked a debate over the independence of the judiciary and the potential influence of external factors on judicial decisions.
#### Legal Representative’s Statement
Speaking to the press, Mutsvangwa’s lawyer, Ms. Josephine Sande, provided an update on the situation. “The matter is now with the registrar of the court for re-allocation to another judge,” Ms. Sande explained. “We are now waiting for notice of hearing. However, we are not sure whether the new judge to the case will hear fresh submissions or proceed with the ruling. It is not clear yet.”
Ms. Sande’s comments highlight the uncertainty surrounding the next steps in the case. The legal community is watching closely to see how the judiciary will handle the reassignment and ensure a fair and transparent process.
#### Concerns Over Judicial Independence
The recusal of Justice Muremba under such circumstances has brought to the forefront the issue of judicial independence. Legal experts emphasize that the autonomy of the judiciary is critical for maintaining public trust in the legal system. External pressures, especially those from political entities, can undermine the impartiality of judicial decisions.
One legal analyst noted, “Judicial independence is the bedrock of a fair legal system. When judges are pressured or perceived to be influenced by external factors, it erodes the integrity of the judiciary and diminishes public confidence.”
#### Implications of Delays
The delay in reassigning a new judge to Mutsvangwa’s case prolongs the legal process, impacting not only the defendant but also the broader justice system. Prolonged detention without a clear path forward exacerbates the stress and uncertainty faced by the defendant and his legal team. Additionally, such delays can lead to questions about the efficiency and effectiveness of the judicial process.
#### Public Reaction
The public reaction to the developments in Mutsvangwa’s case has been mixed. Some express concerns about the potential for political interference in the judiciary, while others emphasize the need for a thorough and impartial legal process.
A local resident commented, “It’s important that the judiciary remains independent. Any sign of interference can have serious implications for justice in our country.”
#### Looking Ahead
As the registrar works to assign a new judge to the case, all eyes are on the judicial system’s ability to navigate these challenges and uphold the principles of impartiality and fairness. The resolution of this case will serve as a crucial test of the judiciary’s resilience against external pressures.
In the coming days, the court’s actions will be scrutinized for transparency and adherence to legal standards. The outcome will not only impact Neville Mutsvangwa but also set a precedent for the handling of high-profile cases in Zimbabwe’s legal system.

This report seeks to provide a comprehensive overview of the current status of Neville Mutsvangwa’s case, emphasizing the broader implications of judicial interference and the critical importance of maintaining judicial independence.

Masvingo, Zimbabwe | By A Correspondent | — Shadreck Jongwe Mujati, a 43-year-old employee of the Zimbabwe Prison Correctional Service (ZPCS) Headquarters in Masvingo, has been remanded in custody following his appearance before the Masvingo Magistrates’ Court on charges of theft of trust property.
The court heard that on May 3, 2024, Proud Gengezha, also affiliated with the ZPCS, received diesel coupons from Petro Trade valued at 13,390 litres. These coupons were handed over to Mujati for safekeeping three days later, on May 6, along with additional petrol coupons worth 1,000 litres. Mujati allegedly secured the coupons in a locker, keeping the keys on his person.
However, the following day, Mujati reported to Gengezha that the petrol coupons worth 1,000 litres were missing. Investigations revealed no signs of forced entry, and Mujati was still in possession of the locker keys, raising suspicions about his involvement. The total value of the stolen coupons is estimated at USD 1,500, and none of the coupons have been recovered.
As the case unfolds, Mujati remains in custody, with the next court date set for June 24. This incident has sparked concerns about security and trust within the ZPCS, highlighting the need for stricter oversight and accountability measures.

In a recent development within Zimbabwe’s political landscape, Sengezo Tshabangu, the interim Secretary General of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), has stirred controversy by challenging the credibility of Advocate Nelson Chamisa.
Tshabangu’s remarks came in the wake of Chamisa’s news conference on Monday.
Tshabangu, who many view as a proxy for the ruling Zanu PF party, criticized Chamisa’s decision-making and overall approach to politics.
He argued that Chamisa’s actions have undermined the party’s credibility and effectiveness.
Tshabangu stated, “As long as we want real change, we need not to play games with the voters.
Let’s take them seriously and make sure everything we do is based on informed decisions.”
One of Tshabangu’s major points of contention was Chamisa’s recent resignation, which he deemed a strategic blunder.
He expressed skepticism about Chamisa’s political tactics and their impact on the party’s objectives. “I don’t think that was a good move to resign, in the first place,” Tshabangu asserted. “SADC won’t respond because they know you resigned.”
Tshabangu’s criticism reflects deeper divisions within the CCC and highlights the challenges the party faces in presenting a united front against Zanu PF.
His remarks suggest that some within the party believe Chamisa’s leadership is more performative than substantive, potentially weakening the CCC’s position in Zimbabwe’s fraught political environment.
This internal discord comes at a critical time for the CCC, as they aim to consolidate support and challenge Zanu PF’s longstanding dominance.
Chamisa, a prominent figure in Zimbabwean opposition politics, has often been seen as a beacon of hope for many who desire political change.
However, Tshabangu’s comments underscore a growing impatience with what some perceive as Chamisa’s lack of strategic depth and seriousness.
In defense of Chamisa, his supporters argue that his resignation and other political maneuvers are part of a larger strategy to galvanize support and highlight the injustices perpetrated by the ruling party.
They maintain that Chamisa’s approach is necessary to draw international attention and pressure, which are crucial for achieving meaningful change in Zimbabwe.
The debate sparked by Tshabangu’s statements is emblematic of the broader challenges facing the CCC.
For the party to succeed, it must navigate these internal conflicts and present a coherent strategy that resonates with voters. Whether Tshabangu’s critique will lead to substantive changes within the party or merely deepen existing rifts remains to be seen.
Tshabangu’s claim that Advocate Chamisa is not a serious politician raises important questions about leadership and strategy within the CCC.
As the political climate in Zimbabwe continues to evolve, the ability of the CCC to address these internal criticisms and unify behind a clear, effective agenda will be critical to its success.
UPDATE ON THE RESOLUTION OF THE DISPUTED AUGUST 2023 ELECTIONS
Fellow citizens,
I have prepared this brief statement to update you on the efforts around the resolution of the disputed outcome of the August 2023 general elections that did not produce a credible and legitimate government chosen by the citizens of Zimbabwe.
As you are aware, following the shambolic and disputed August 2023 elections, we held nationwide consultations with you, the citizens, and all other relevant stakeholders, on the ways and means to resolve the electoral fraud.
You, the citizens of Zimbabwe, are very clear and firm on the position that the elections were improperly conducted, indeterminate and produced a manipulated outcome.
This position is supported and confirmed by SADC, the African Union, the European Union, the Commonwealth, COMESA, and all other intergovernmental organizations which deployed election observer missions to Zimbabwe.
There is no other election in the history of elections in this country that has invited such regional and international condemnation as the August 2023 elections. This matter must be resolved so that the country can have proper elections that produce a proper government from the citizens.
Fellow citizens, as your presidential choice, you and I, and the over two million (over TWO MILLION), gave a clear mandate, albeit in a disputed and contested August 2023 election. That mandate cannot be abdicated, abandoned, or undermined.
Upon and with your mandate, on the 26th of September 2023, we wrote to our regional body, SADC, the guarantor of the values and principles of the regional bloc for the “common agenda” and “common will” of the people of this region.
On 23 October 2023 SADC responded that they were giving the matter due consideration. Meanwhile, we have noted the various meetings of the leadership of SADC has held, including the latest Extraordinary Summit of the Organ Troika on the 23rd of March 2024 in Lusaka, Zambia. Therefore, we have advisedly been patiently waiting on our request.
On the 29th of April, however, since considerable time has passed, yet we had sought to resolve this issue much earlier, we delivered our follow-up to SADC for which we await a response to determine a clear path forward to resolve the governance crisis and leadership dispute.
Our request to SADC was and remains very simple, that, as the regional body which Zimbabwe has signed up for membership and vested some authority in the supranational intergovernmental organization, we require their facilitation to peacefully resolve the issues around the irregular and disputed elections. The problem of the manipulated elections that produced a government without a mandate from the citizens has since culminated into high levels of intolerance, violations, repression, illegal recalls of citizen representatives (of the very same disputed election, in itself, an unprecedented move and an encyclopedic indictment of the process itself), unlawful arrests and persecution of citizens upon all other kinds of archaic intimidatory and suppressive manifestations of the lack of mandate.
It is common knowledge that our country is facing a plethora of problems. Most of them are basic and symptomatic of bad governance, broken politics, and disputed leadership. We have a tanking economy; systemic corruption; 40% of the population living in extreme poverty; USD$1.8bn lost to looting annually; USD$100m worth of gold smuggled monthly; galloping hyperinflation; half of the population full of food insecurity; over 3 million Zimbabweans forced to migrate; 89% unemployment; and disputed national processes and elections.
Only a legitimate government chosen by the citizens has both the confidence and mandate to deliver on their necessities and demands. You voted for a government that would deliver healthcare and water, education, transportation, peaceful resolution and other basic services. You know why you voted for change. The current challenges of failing to resolve this huge national dispute is breeding a toxic atmosphere of death, starvation, poverty, poor income, the hostile political environment, an air of sadness and brain drain are all symptoms of an illegitimate government and a broken state. Zimbabwe’s elections are a great point of concern as the citizens cannot mandate anyone. Only a truly elected citizen government is the solution for good governance and service delivery.
We reiterate this point to SADC, the AU and indeed to the international community. It is untidy and untenable to sanitize or fertilize theft of elections and electoral malpractices by using a veil and casting a blind eye to matters of gigantic electoral fraud. Such a stance means Africa remains at antics. Our regional and international institutions, cohesion and common process and we condone it and add it another blot. It would be a contradiction in terms, to determine a process as flawed and yet condone its outcome.
Fellow citizens, may I hasten to say, the following and exhaustion of available remedies and peaceful means to resolve national issues is not a manifestation of weakness or that we are devoid of other ideas and means. It is our strict commitment to finding each other and amicably resolving our points of conflict, disjuncture, and disagreement.
We have committed to a peaceful resolution of disputes and intend to exhaust all available peaceful remedies. As you are all aware, millions of you agree with this approach. Zimbabwe is too beautiful and precious to be destroyed by flames of political disputes under our watch. Peace is fragile. Peace is sacrosanct. And the breakdown of peace knows no winner. The opposite of peace leaves us all losers.
Our beautiful country can never progress on the back of disunity and successive disputed national processes including contested elections. We are acutely aware of the urgency of this matter and more importantly that there can never be any talk about 2028 or a viable and stable future for this country without resolving August 2023, the broken past, and disputed politics. It remains our hope and indeed your hope that at least these concerns will be addressed with urgency and seriousness.
On my part I am doing everything necessary, to the extent of God’s Will, to seek a lasting solution to the perennial challenges affecting our beloved country. Locally and nationally, I have engaged all the stakeholders including the traditional leadership, business leadership, civil society at large, political parties and indeed international diplomatic corp.
In particular, I have also sought the mediatory role of the church leadership to help resolve the disputes and electoral and constitutional processes, albeit, with handicapped progress. I have even numerously offered engagement with the other presidential contender at the end of our point of dispute and stopped at nothing in the way forward.
We have repeatedly raised these issues and flagged them with key stakeholders, which paper are we already made public in due course.
We have engaged fraternal stakeholders within the SADC region. At Heads of State level, I have engaged leaders through delegations that I sent to the various capitals of the region and the urgent brief esteemed Excellencies about the election dispute, the political atmosphere, and our proposed way forward.
I therefore urge you to take an active role in peacefully determining the destiny of our country. I exhort you, fellow citizens, the interested, and the church, to continue to pray for a smooth and peaceful transition in our country.
Stay the course, hold the fort, hold fast and stand involved. Stand ready. Change is upon us.

Striker Obriel Chirinda has been cleared to turn out for Ngezi Platinum Stars after winning the the legal battle against Dynamos.
Chirinda was registered with the defending champions after moving from Bulawayo Chiefs.
However Dynamos approached the Premier Soccer league arguing that Chirinda had signed a contract with them first.
The ZIFA Player status committee however ruled that the contract between Dynamos and Chirinda was not binding as it was signed while he had a running contract with Bulawayo Chiefs and was not a fee agent.
By Political Reporter- Presidential spokesperson George Charamba asserts that opposition politician Nelson Chamisa would still be the CCC leader if he had accepted the offer to be the leader of the opposition in parliament.
Chamisa was offered that post by the government soon after the 2018 elections, which he turned down, citing election rigging by Zanu PF that year.
Last weekend, Chamisa resurfaced, stating he had exhausted all diplomatic avenues for challenging vote rigging by Zanu PF and warned of practical action.
This statement followed his approach to SADC, requesting intervention to address the disputed 2023 elections.
SADC and all international observer missions condemned the 2023 polls, declaring them flawed.

In a robust rebuttal, Zanu PF has dismissed the recent news conference held by Advocate Nelson Chamisa, leader of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), as inconsequential.
Chamisa had addressed the media on Monday, focusing on the unresolved governance issues and leadership disputes in Zimbabwe.
In a swift response, Zanu PF Patriots released a statement downplaying Chamisa’s press conference.
“Chamisa is a lucky man, he said he is waiting for SADC response. In August President Mnangagwa will be the new SADC Chairman, Chamisa will get his feedback here in Zimbabwe from his president, ED,” the statement read.
This response underscores the ruling party’s confidence in its leader, President Emmerson Mnangagwa, who is set to assume the chairmanship of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) in August.
During his address, Advocate Chamisa emphasized the CCC’s continued efforts to seek regional intervention in resolving Zimbabwe’s political impasse.
He mentioned that the party had submitted a follow-up communication to SADC on April 29th, highlighting their patience and persistence in seeking a resolution.
“On the 29th of April, however, since considerable time has passed, yet we had sought to resolve this issue much earlier, we delivered our follow-up to SADC for which we await a response to determine a clear path forward to resolve the governance crisis and leadership dispute,” Chamisa stated.
Chamisa’s remarks signal the opposition’s determination to engage SADC in addressing what they perceive as critical governance issues in Zimbabwe.
However, Zanu PF’s dismissal of his press conference reflects the ongoing political tensions and the ruling party’s firm stance against what it sees as attempts to undermine its authority.
The exchange between the CCC and Zanu PF highlights the complex and often contentious political landscape in Zimbabwe.
With Mnangagwa poised to take on a significant regional role, the dynamics of this political tussle are set to evolve further, particularly as both sides continue to vie for legitimacy and influence both domestically and within the broader Southern African region.

By A Correspondent | Four former employees of Grace Mugabe have been accused of stealing household property and cutlery worth an estimated US$500,000 from the late President Robert Mugabe’s Blue Roof home in Borrowdale, Harare. Despite the substantial value of the stolen goods, only $2,000 worth of items has been recovered so far.
The accused, Allen Chinamonya, 42, Danmore Chinamonya, 35, Samson Karonga, and Brighton Bunganirwa, 46, appeared before Harare magistrate Marehwanazvo Gofa. Their bail application is set for this Tuesday. The court heard that the four men, who held various positions such as driver, groundsman, electrician, and gardener, allegedly conspired to steal the goods between 2018 and May 2024.
According to state prosecutor Lancelot Mutsokoti, Grace Mugabe had moved 11 containers filled with household items from State House to the Blue Roof residence after Robert Mugabe was ousted in 2017. She secured the containers by locking them, but the accused reportedly broke the padlocks and stole various items, including television sets, clothes, cutlery, and bath towels.
The theft was discovered on May 22, 2024, when Grace Mugabe visited the containers to select artefacts for donation to the African Liberation Museum. The case was reported to Borrowdale police on May 25.
Despite the high value of the stolen goods, police detectives have managed to recover only $2,000 worth of items. Recovered items from Allen Chinamonya’s home included a cream men’s suit, a white short-sleeved men’s suit, a green cover bed, a cream cover bed, and a black and silver television set. From Danmore Chinamonya’s home, they recovered a navy blue short-sleeved men’s suit and a flowery Zanu PF long-sleeved shirt. Grace Mugabe positively identified these items as part of the stolen goods.
The accused are facing charges of theft, breach of trust, and violation of property laws under the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act of Zimbabwe. The specific breaches include Section 113 (theft), Section 114 (unlawful entry), and Section 117 (criminal abuse of trust or office). If convicted, the accused could face severe penalties, including imprisonment.
### Case Law Analysis
Under Zimbabwean law, the principles of theft and breach of trust are well established. Section 113 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act criminalizes theft, which is defined as unlawfully taking property with the intent to permanently deprive the owner. This principle aligns with common law traditions seen in jurisdictions such as the United Kingdom, where theft is similarly defined under the Theft Act 1968. In both jurisdictions, the intent to permanently deprive is a critical element of the offence.
Section 114 deals with unlawful entry, which in this case pertains to the breaking of padlocks to access the containers. This offense is comparable to burglary laws in other jurisdictions, such as the United States, where unlawful entry with intent to commit theft or another felony is classified under various state statutes.
Section 117 addresses criminal abuse of trust or office, highlighting the aggravated breach due to the accused’s positions of trust. This is mirrored in many legal systems, where fiduciary responsibilities and trust are taken seriously, and breaches are met with stringent penalties. For example, in South Africa, the Prevention and Combating of Corrupt Activities Act imposes severe penalties for abuse of office, reflecting the gravity of such offenses.
### International Context
Internationally, the principles surrounding theft, breach of trust, and unlawful entry are consistently upheld. The United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) emphasizes the importance of integrity and accountability in public and private sectors. Zimbabwe, as a signatory, aligns its legal frameworks to these international standards, ensuring that crimes involving breach of trust and theft are thoroughly prosecuted.
The case also draws parallels with high-profile theft cases worldwide, such as the famous Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum heist in the United States, where only a fraction of the stolen artwork has been recovered decades later. Such cases highlight the challenges in recovering stolen property and the importance of robust legal mechanisms to deter and address theft.
As the court proceedings continue, the legal community will closely watch how Zimbabwean law is applied to ensure justice. The recovery of only a small fraction of the stolen goods underscores the need for stringent security measures and rigorous enforcement of laws to protect property and uphold trust.

By Dorrothy Moyo | ZimEye | In a sensational revelation, Presidential Spokesman George Charamba has disclosed clear evidence that Emmerson Mnangagwa’s political counterpart, Nelson Chamisa, has steadfastly rejected monetary offers from ZANU PF. This development has been ongoing, with Chamisa maintaining his refusal, leading to ZANU PF eventually abandoning their efforts.
The details surfaced through Twitter interactions on Charamba’s X portal, @Dhonzamusoro007. In a notable tweet, Charamba declared, “WHAT CAN’T: Chamisa cannot be available as a NATIONAL LEADER; he can only be available as a PARTISAN, PARTY-LESS LEADER!!!!! Further clarification was provided by Joseph Samanyara, who responded, questioning Chamisa’s qualification for the opposition leadership in Parliament given he was not a member of Parliament. Samanyara emphasized, “You must be an MP to qualify for the post! Otherwise, he didn’t turn it down, the party appointed Tabitha Khumalo because Chamisa was not a member of Parliament.”

This revelation has sent shockwaves through the political landscape, raising questions about the strategies and integrity of both ZANU PF and its opposition. The steadfastness of Chamisa in refusing monetary offers signals a significant stand on political ethics and leadership values.

While Chamisa was still to comment at the time of writing, Charamba’s statement is not new and in the Motlanthe Commission over the 2018 crackdowns, Police Commissioner General Godwin Matanga stated the same.

During the hearings, the police general Godwin Matanga announced saying that Chamisa is guilty of inciting violence.
He then went on to say that Chamisa’s only way out of guilt is to accept the job given him by his very opposite during the 2018 elections, Emmerson Mnangagwa. The supposedly advertised job is that of Leader Of The House, an offer which Nelson Chamisa scoffs at saying it means nothing as he already holds it.

Godwin Matanga during the Motlanthe Commission hearings
But whichever swing that is, there was drama yesterday when Mnangagwa practically ‘handed over the job’ to election loser Thokozani Khupe.
Khupe revealed as Leader of The Opposition on Thursday.
Said Matanga:
“So really up to this hour I still feel that it would be very improper for me to arrest the leader of the opposition party in the name of Nelson Chamisa because not too long ago when our State President was in New York attending some conference that he also extended some own relief where he was going to propose to his parliament to open a special office to accommodate the opposition leader.
“And I still feel today the doors are still open and it will be very improper for me to arrest him.
“But at the same time I would want to say crime does not rot like meat.”
An except of the deliberations is below:
COMMISSIONER CHIEF EMEKA ANYAOKU (To witness) Q. Just a few questions. First is there any law that empowers the police to do something about inciting public violence? A. The law is there. Fortunately we had a seminar a week before the Election Day which was conducted by the Chairperson of the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission Justice Chigumba at one of our conference rooms and it was very clear and it’s still very clear that the Electoral Act did not allow people to incite violence. Q. So it’s a law on which the police have never acted. Would that be right to say that?
A. Can you come again? Q. Would it be correct to say that the police have never really acted on this law? A. Going back to history I borrowed some facts from within the continent where by arresting a leader of the then opposition party could have worsened the situation. I will tell you a clue whereby queer situation where more than a 1000 people died during the election period and to go further it is already known that the lawyer of the main opposition leader in Kenya Roila Odinga by the name Silas Jaracumba if I am not mistaken was in the country to advice our main opposition leader on how to proceed with actions which took place on the 1st of August. When I got that information unfortunately he had left the country on the 31st of July going back to Kenya. So really up to this hour I still feel that it would be very improper for me to arrest the leader of the opposition party in the name of Nelson Chamisa because not too long ago when our State President was in New York attending some conference that he also extended some own relief where he was going to propose to his parliament to open a special office to accommodate the opposition leader. And I still feel today the doors are still open and it will be very improper for me to arrest him. But at the same time I would want to say crime does not rot like meat. The records are there to tell and anytime he can be arrested if the time permits. Q. The people who died as a result of 1st of August violence have you been able to establish whether they all died from gunshots from the army alone or was there any fatality to police gunshots? A. Our investigations have not come up with the culprits involved. And for me to say these people were shot by the army it will be very unfair because I was expecting to get evidence in the form of cartridges or bullet heads only to read through the papers
that there are Zimbabwean citizens who do have these cartridges and through the Commission I am appealing to them to come forward so that investigations can be carried out. COMMISSIONER GENERAL DAVIS MWAMUNYANGE (To witness) Q. Based on the intelligence that you might have collected before 1st of August did you foresee the occurrence and extent of the violence that took place on the 1st of August? A. Unfortunately from the time of the election date and even before was announced by the State President, people, political leaders were campaigning peacefully to include Nelson Chamisa and his party. And I if I do recall its on record it is the first time when the opposition party was allowed to have their main rally in the Africa Unit Square. According to our plans which we discussed together with the opposition convenors and I want to say and to remain on record that at the end of their rally we did not record any mishap. So with that in mind but of course I was not seating on to say it was peaceful but I can assure you the situation was reasonably comfortable, peaceful up to the end of the ballot dates. So we were then expecting results from ZEC and of course they were fishers that certain individuals wanted to announce the results before the official board ZEC could do it which again is a serious offence. So I want to say before the Commission the situation was very comfortable and considering that the people had voted up to the end peacefully at some point I did not expect the violence which took place on the 1st of August to take place. Q. When violence erupted on the 1st of August did you make any attempt to contact the leader of the opposition and other institutions?
Turning to the Public Order and Security Act, after the approval by the President was there any need for the Defence Forces to operate under the regulating authority for Harare? A. Definitely yes. If it was on a normal operation the members of the Defence Forces were supposed to come down to the regulating authority who was then Chief Superintendent Ncube to be given instructions. Of course a situation which did not take place. Q. Does that mean there you agree with the witness who came early on the regulating authority for Harare that that section of the law was not complied? A. Mr Chairman this questions is coming from a specialist in the Constitution. CHAIRMAN KGALEMA MOTLANTLE Q. You are protected. A. He is asking me to spit hell here. It’s now here nor there when it comes to law but then of course it was not done but it was not done deliberately. That one I must accept. COMMISSIONER LOVEMORE MADHUKU (To witness) Q. I accept that I think I took your words in here. Correct me if it is not correct. Your language says that the normal process could not be followed because they was no time for that process. You are saying again that regard that you couldn’t then follow those provisions because there was no time for it? A. That is surely Mr Chairman if the time was there this channel was going to be followed for sure.
Commissioner you have told this Commission that when your request to get the army to assist was granted they was no time to go back to the regulatory authority so are you telling this gathering that it is you who said the army could go? You gave the last word? A. Can you come again madam so that I can answer correctly. Q. I am saying according to procedure it was supposed to be the regulatory authority as stated by Assistant Inspector Ncube that he was then supposed to command the army to go. I am saying since there was no time to go to the authority was it then you who sent the army out, who commanded rather? A. Mr Chairman I can’t run away from the fact it’s me. Q. What was your instruction to the Forces? What did you instruct them to go and do? A. The deployment of the army like I already indicated was to make sure that these demonstrators were not going to run over the Rainbow Towers which was accommodating the Command Centre, secondly the ZANU PF National Headquarter where in normal circumstances our Ministers are housed. The ZEC officers, the ZEC offices themselves where Justice Chigumba and the rest were accommodated and lastly the ZANU PF provincial headquarters along Simon Muzenda Street. Along the way and it was very clear for me that I would not know what will happen in between because the town was already on fire. Q. When the town is on fire what would you specifically state to the army that goes? Did you just tell them just go and do what you can do or they was an instruction?
Unfortunately through the Chair it’s like I am going through a jungle. I will not be too sure whether one will encounter an elephant, a lion or whatever but only to say please try to be careful the situation is not favourable. Just what I said to the commander of the army. Q. So in other words there was an open instruction for them to use their discretion within their training abilities? A. I wouldn’t say an open instruction because in day to day training program there is what they call military aid to civil power. And there are trained to quail out disturbances of that nature which took place on the 1st of August. And to say it was an open instruction I would not take that. No. Q, The reason why I am asking is because we heard all the witnesses coming but it looks like the public want to know who gave instruction, who said what, when the shootings happened who had said go and shoot. That’s why I am trying to ask? A. Through the Chair, right now I cannot even tell you who were part of the 5000, 4000 demonstrators who were in town. So for me to say they were going to do this at cnr Chitepo and Simon Muzenda Street it was going to be very difficult for me. But as trained officer I would and even right now I would still feel that that was not a situation which they would not be able to quail. Q. But in your own assessment was the power or the force used commensurate to the events that were happening? A. Depending on what corner we are looking at this situation from. From a civilian point of view for those who were viewing it on television and for those who were going on to the actual ground the assessment will be different but without maybe provoking the
bereaved families I still believe that minimum force was used because I know that our Defence Forces are armed with AKs. If those arms were carelessly used I can assure you we could have counted 1000 bodies in Harare central. COMMISSIONER RODNEY THOMAS DICKSON (To witness) Q. Commissioner General I just need you to clarify this point because I thought I heard you saying loud and clear that there was no space for discussion because of the urgency of the situation. That meant that you couldn’t place the Defence Forces that were coming in under your command? They maintained a separate command under the Defence Forces. Am I wrong in that understanding? A. As I have already said, when authority was granted for me to invite the Forces mostly all the Forces were on the ground and these colleagues of ours also did come to assist us and to say there was this possibility of them meeting to discuss on how to go forward I would lie to the Commission, there was no time for that. Like I have already indicated these demonstrators were not on one place they were all over town and if I remember my officers also were very much in danger the same as maybe those who lost their lives. Q. So to be clear there you did receive command of both your Forces and the Defence Forces that joined them on the ground. A. I did because I was getting information from individual offices who were at different corners of the town. So to say I did not I will be lying. I was on top of the situation. Q. When you take command as my fellow Commissioner asked you you gave orders as to how they should conduct the operations in quailing the demonstrators is that what happened?
Is there any possibility from your investigations so far that individual soldiers acted outside of the law for framework that you have now told us about? They acted as individuals unlawfully is there any possibility of that? A. I was told that some members of the ZDF appear on social media in some kneeling position but that is not enough for me to say this is the person who killed that particular person. I am not in that position until investigation is completed. Q. I asked about that particular question because we saw the videos of the person kneeling, what we also saw is what appeared to be a commander appearing to be telling the person by hitting on the shoulder to stop shooting. That’s why I was asking the question whether there is more information at this stage? A. Unfortunately Mr Chairman for that commander to get to that position of restraining his colleague definitely I would want to leave that one to that particular officer otherwise I would say something wrong on his behalf. Q. We appreciate the investigations are going on, can you clarify whether or not it’s the military doing those investigations or its solely the police. Sometimes there is a difference of jurisdiction? A. Whilst I don’t want to talk on behalf of the ZDF I know there is a department they call Military Police I want to believe that they could be carrying out their own investigations but in the ZRP for sure my CID department is investigating, the Law and Order department. Q. Do you know whether they have interviewed the families of the deceased or those people who were injured yet?
there any possibility from your investigations so far that individual soldiers acted outside of the law for framework that you have now told us about? By A Correspondent| Incarcerated Mutare businessman Isau Mupfumi’s woes continue to mount as he is now being accused of soiling Zanu PF’s name.
Mupfumi was arrested over the weekend for causing mayhem at some bus ranks in Mutare where he allegedly organised a group of armed thugs to beat his rivals.
Sources close to the developments said when he was arrested Mupfumi tried to find a scapegoat and implicated Inter Africa owner Mukumba who is believed to be outside the country.
“Mupfumi is a coward, he moves around telling people that he is Mr Mutare and he is well connected. In so doing he used the ruling party’s name to push his nefarious activities. His buses were contracted by Zupco but when the contract ended, he is now trying push out all transporters from Mutare.”
“He is in the habit of dropping names of party bigwigs and causing havoc in Mutare. The authorities must deal with him because the situation cannot continue like this. His conductors and marshalls are known for abusing travellers, now he is under fire, he wants to implicate other business people who have nothing to do with what is happening on the ground,”the source said.
This comes after national police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi on Sunday confirmed the arrest of Mupfumi.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms the arrest of bus operators, touts, criminal gangs and rank marshals in connection with public violence scenes, which rocked Mutare on May 23, and May 24, 2024,” he said.
“Mupfumi (62) was arrested together with Jelous Mukorera (36), Michael Chigaro (37), Tatenda Chamusingarevi (22), Cassidy Chabvuta (33), Clayton Muchineripi (24), Kudzanai Neshiri (24), Donemore Dube (44), Taurai Gumende (36), Constantine Makombe (21) and Tawanda Matara (42).
“Other suspects are Liberty Simonyi (28), Rodrick Chiutsi (32), James Bhekete (35), Daniel Kaibo (35), Daniel Edmore Shupai (25), Noah Mabota (26), Wayne Mafuta (21), Blessing Chikukwa (30), Donald Matakure (23), Oracio Migayo (18) and Luckmore Shamhu (30).”
Comm Nyathi said some of the suspects were hired and paid to engage in public violence using vehicles while carrying machetes and other weapons.
“In one of the incidents, police had to fire warning gun shots to effect arrests as the gangs were fighting and striking one another with machetes, stones, iron bars and other weapons. Some members of the public were caught in crossfire and sustained injuries.
“Police have recovered a white Toyota Hiace vehicle registration number ABF 2518, white Toyota Belta (AFA 6517), white Mazda 323 (ABM 8801), silver Toyota Wish (AEP 6689), white Honda Fit (AFM 1550), white Toyota Aqua (AGG 0083), knives, hoe handles, iron bars, stones, two slashers, a sjambok (whip) and a 1,5-metres long deformed bar,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mupfumi was yesterday granted US$1000 bail.
By A Correspondent| The ministry of health and child care has allayed fears that the country could be going through another COVID-19 outbreak after reported multiple cases of flue-like illness.
In a statement, the ministry said there was no viral pandemic in the country adding that the flue-like illness was associated with the winter season.
“The Ministry of Health and Child Care would want to reassure the public that the flu-like illnesses seen in the country are due to the common cold. The winter season is associated with increased incidence of common colds and that is what has been seen so far. The cases are neither due to Covid-19 or other new viruses. There is no viral pandemic in Zimbabwe.
“The public is advised to lead healthy lifestyles, take lots of fluids, keep warm and where necessary take over-the-counter common cold remedies,” the ministry said.
Recently, Zimbabwe recorded multiple cases of flue-like illness forcing the ministry of health and child care to announce that they were investigating if it was something to worry about.
By A Correspondent| Citizens Coalition for Change interim leader Jameson Timba has castigated President Emmerson Mnangagwa for tampering with judicial independence after one of the local online publications reported that he together with Justice minister Ziyambi Ziyambi and Women Affairs minister Monica Mutsvangwa summoned a High Court judge who was handling the case of Neville Mutsvangwa to State House.
Posting on X, Timba said what Mnangagwa did is an affront on the rule of law and independence of the judiciary.
“News that a High court judge handling the bail application for a son of a Cabinet Minister was summoned to State House is both worrying and unacceptable. It is an affront on the rule of law and the independence of the judiciary. We should all be equal before the law,” said Timba.
Yesterday, a High Court judge, Justice Esther Muremba recused herself from the Neville Mutsvangwa bail application citing personal reasons.
It was later reported by a local online that she had been summoned to the State House where she was forced to face Mnangagwa, Ziyambi and Mutsvangwa who wanted to know how she was handling the Neville issue.
She later recused herself before she was due to make a ruling on Neville’s bail application.
This has resulted in Neville spending more time in prison as a new judge is expected to be allocated the case.
The opposition has often complained of judicial capture by the ruling Zanu PF with government critics including Job Sikhala, Hopewell Chin’ono, Jacob Ngarivhume, Makomborero Haruzivishe among others struggling to get bail in the lower courts.
By Business Reporter-Global satellite-based internet service provider Starlink has announced its service plan for Zimbabwe.
The South Africa-born American billionaire, Mr Elon Musk project will be available in Zimbabwe starting the third quarter of the year and is expected to revolutionise the information communication and technology service in the country through high speed and increased coverage to areas that had over the years been excluded.
Its entry will see Zimbabwe joining a select group of African countries using high-speed, low-cost broadband internet services after the Government at the weekend approved the licencing of Starlink.
The licencing requirements are now being worked out.
Posts and Telecommunication and Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe director-general Gift Machengete told the state media that satellite services would go a long way in enhancing internet service provision.
“With regard to Starlink, they have indicated in their application that they will roll out service in the third quarter of the year. That is what they have said. In their application they will provide backhauling connectivity and they can also enter into commercial arrangements with local players.”
Machengete said there were a lot of advantages that could be derived from satellite telecommunication service providers.
“Satellite service providers provide high-speed internet services. There will be areas that they will be providing services that have not had the service, like the rural areas, where there is no optic fibre.”
Backhaul is a telecommunications term that refers to the process of carrying data from a smaller, local network to a larger, more powerful network. It is the network infrastructure that powers the Internet.
It serves as an intermediate between the main network and the small networks used for distribution to other smaller channels.
Starlink is an internet system that uses low-earth orbit satellites, which allow almost instantaneous connections and far lower power than the signal lags and higher power requirements of geostationary satellites.
The Government announced at the weekend that it had approved the licencing of Starlink by Potraz.
Starlink is currently officially offered in a few African nations, including Nigeria, Mozambique, Zambia, Kenya and Malawi.

By Farai D Hove | ZimEye |On a cool, unsuspecting April Fools’ Day, the world was treated to an astonishing spectacle. Wicknell Chivayo, a man known for his flamboyant personality and unpredictable antics, took to the screen with an announcement that would leave many baffled.
“My ghost has to go, I have to say goodbye to my ghost,” Chivayo declared, his voice dripping with theatrical gravitas. The statement hung in the air, enigmatic and surreal, as viewers scrambled to decipher its meaning.
As if shedding the cloak of a showman, Chivayo transformed before the camera, adopting the solemn demeanor of a preacher. “Today is resurrection day,” he intoned, his voice imbued with an almost evangelical fervor. “The Lord teaches us to love one another, so the ghost has to go.”
The suspense was palpable. Who or what was this ‘ghost’? And why was its departure so crucial? Then came the twist—a revelation that felt like a sharp twist of the knife. Chivayo’s ghost, he confessed, had been gifted to none other than his best friend, a member of the ZANU PF, Scott Sakupwanya, known to many as Shumba.
It was a stunning disclosure, one that danced on the fine line between reality and absurdity. On the surface, it appeared to be an act of selfless generosity, wrapped in the language of faith and camaraderie. Yet, as the layers peeled away, a darker truth began to emerge. The ‘ghost,’ it turned out, was no spectral entity but a symbol of Chivayo’s burdens—financial, reputational, and perhaps even criminal. And this ‘donation’ was less an act of charity than a cunning maneuver, a way to offload liabilities under the guise of goodwill.
The narrative that had initially seemed like a heartfelt farewell to a personal demon was, in fact, a masterclass in deception. Chivayo’s audience, many of whom had initially believed in the sincerity of his words, were left to grapple with the realization that they had been duped. The ‘resurrection day’ speech, delivered with the fervor of a televangelist, was nothing more than an elaborate charade.
In the end, what was presented as a noble gesture was exposed as a calculated ruse, a Machiavellian play that left the public questioning not just Chivayo’s integrity, but the very nature of the truths they are fed by those in power. The ghost had indeed been laid to rest, but not in the way anyone had expected.
It was Chivayo’s Rolls Royce Ghost being handed over to Scott Sakupwanya, at least on camera. VIDEO:
The controversial businessman Wicknell Chivayo has been exposed for falsifying an expensive car donation to Scott Sakupwanya, owner of Better Brands Security. An investigation by ZimEye has revealed that the money for the donation was originally Sakupwanya’s, highlighting Chivayo’s deceptive tactics.
Better Brands Security, the same company linked to the use of a gun in the deadly 2021 shooting of alleged armed robbers by former CID cop Joseph Nemaisa, is now embroiled in another major controversy. This time, the focus is on a scandal involving the misappropriation of election funds through a dubious tender process.
The scandal centers around a $40 million contract awarded to Chivayo for supplying electoral materials to the Zimbabwe Election Commission (ZEC) ahead of the 2023 general elections. Chivayo, notorious for his close ties with President Emmerson Mnangagwa and other high-profile government officials, secured the tender in a highly irregular manner.
Chivayo’s colleague, Scott Sakupwanya, and his company Better Brands Security, in collaboration with Ren-Form CC, significantly inflated prices by up to 235% for voter registration kits, polling day materials, and other essential election supplies. This procurement process, overseen by ZEC chairperson Priscilla Chigumba, was fraught with corruption and favoritism.
Documents in ZimEye’s possession reveal that Chivayo, alongside local businessmen Mike Chimombe and Moses Mpofu, leveraged their political connections to bypass standard competitive bidding procedures. Instead, they manipulated the process to ensure the tender was awarded to their consortium, which then engaged in severe overpricing.
The financial implications were staggering. An advance payment of nearly $20 million was made to Chivayo, with total costs skyrocketing to over $40 million due to the exorbitant mark-ups. This windfall for Chivayo and his associates came at the expense of the Zimbabwean electorate, resulting in a severe shortage of critical electoral materials, including ballot boxes and papers. This posed a grave threat to the integrity of the election process, potentially disenfranchising countless voters.
The broader implications for public accountability and governance in Zimbabwe are significant. The use of public funds in such a fraudulent manner highlights systemic issues of corruption, bribery, and lack of transparency within the government and its affiliated institutions.
Chivayo’s ostentatious display of wealth, funded by these illicit gains, has only added to public outrage. Images of him flaunting luxury items and properties have circulated widely, underscoring the gross misuse of funds intended for a vital democratic exercise.
In light of these revelations, there are increasing calls for thorough investigations and accountability. The ZEC’s decision-making process and the involvement of high-ranking officials in the tender award need scrutiny to restore public trust and ensure future electoral processes are free from such corruption.
Meanwhile, the 2021 shooting scandal involving Better Brands Security and former CID officer Joseph Nemaisa was reviewed with Nemaisa saying that the gun he used during the shootout with robbers belonged to Newman Maseve, a security guard from Better Brands Security.
Nemaisa stated that he had asked Maseve to accompany him to his house, where he left the guard in the car parked a few houses away. Maseve was instructed to watch the street for any getaway vehicles while Nemaisa confronted the robbers. Nemaisa also revised his initial claim about his location, stating he was in Mandara, not Chisipite.
Nemaisa detailed the sequence of events, describing how he killed the first two robbers and then the third. He defended his actions against public criticism, emphasizing his experience with firearms and his decision to call the CIO crack squad instead of the police due to their perceived inadequacy in handling such situations.
Nemaisa also denied involvement in the ZB Bank heist, dismissing the accusations as baseless. He emphasized his impeccable record with the Zimbabwe Republic Police and his educational achievements, including a first-class degree in law.
These developments have further highlighted the controversial operations of Better Brands Security and its entrenchment in high-profile incidents. The use of a security guard’s firearm in such a critical situation raises questions about the company’s practices and the extent of its influence.
As the investigations continue, the interconnections between business, security operations, and political influence in Zimbabwe remain under intense scrutiny. The public’s demand for transparency and accountability grows stronger, driven by the need to address the systemic corruption that threatens the nation’s democratic integrity.
Since the beginning of the second term, more than twenty schools across Zimbabwe have been hit by armed robberies, sparking significant concern among the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) and the wider community. These incidents have primarily targeted cash stored on school premises, particularly funds collected from fees.
The latest robbery occurred at St Ignatius College in Harare, where a group of at least ten armed robbers attacked the school, expecting to find large amounts of cash. This attack has heightened fears and underscored the growing trend of educational institutions becoming prime targets for criminals.
The ZRP has expressed deep concern over this alarming pattern, noting that schools, often seen as safe havens for students and educators, are now vulnerable to such violent crimes. The police are intensifying efforts to protect these institutions and are urging school administrators to adopt more secure methods of handling cash.
Communities are equally disturbed by this trend. Parents, teachers, and local residents are calling for increased security measures and a more robust police presence around schools to deter future incidents. The safety of students and staff has become a pressing issue, with many advocating for the use of digital payment systems to minimize the amount of cash kept on school grounds.
In response, the ZRP is working closely with school authorities to enhance security protocols and provide guidance on safer financial practices. The police are also appealing to the public for any information that could aid in apprehending the perpetrators of these crimes.
As investigations continue, the ZRP reassures the community that every effort is being made to restore safety and security in schools, ensuring a safe learning environment for all students.
In a recent statement aimed at calming public anxiety, the Ministry of Health has confirmed that there is no viral pandemic currently affecting Zimbabwe. This assurance comes amidst rising concerns and speculation about the resurgence of COVID-19 and other viral diseases in the region.
Addressing the nation, the Ministry emphasized that ongoing surveillance and testing have shown no evidence of a widespread viral outbreak. “Our comprehensive monitoring systems and health protocols are in place to detect and respond to any public health threats swiftly,” a spokesperson for the Ministry declared.
The Ministry acknowledged that while there have been isolated cases of various illnesses, these do not constitute a pandemic. Health officials are vigilant and prepared to manage any potential threats, ensuring that Zimbabwe remains safe. The public is encouraged to continue practicing standard health precautions, such as maintaining hygiene and seeking medical advice if unwell.
This announcement is intended to reassure citizens and counter misinformation that may cause unnecessary panic. The Ministry remains committed to transparency and regular updates to keep the public informed about the nation’s health status.

In a surprising development that has sent ripples through Zimbabwe’s political landscape, opposition leader Advocate Nelson Chamisa has hinted at the formation of a new political movement.
This move comes after Chamisa’s dramatic resignation from the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) earlier this year, citing heavy infiltration within the party.
Speaking on Sunday, Chamisa cryptically declared, “WARMING UP FOR IT…,” sparking widespread speculation about his next steps.
The enigmatic statement has left political analysts and supporters eagerly anticipating further details on what Chamisa has planned.
Chamisa’s resignation from the CCC, a party he helped establish, was a significant blow to the opposition’s unity and strength.
His departure underscored ongoing challenges within the party, including allegations of infiltration by Zanu PF, the ruling party.
This new development suggests Chamisa is preparing to re-enter the political fray with a fresh approach and possibly a new organizational framework.
The hint of a new movement comes at a critical time for Zimbabwe, as the nation grapples with economic hardships, political instability, and calls for reform.
Chamisa’s potential new initiative could re-energize opposition efforts and present a renewed challenge to the entrenched Zanu PF regime.
For now, the details of Chamisa’s plans remain shrouded in mystery. However, his history as a charismatic and influential leader suggests that any new movement he spearheads will likely draw significant attention and support from those disillusioned with the current political climate.
As the nation watches closely, Chamisa’s next steps could redefine Zimbabwe’s political landscape and reinvigorate the fight for democratic change.
Former Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) youth taskforce spokesperson, Stephen Sarkozy Chuma, has issued a stark warning about the escalating political repression under President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s regime.
In a fiery denunciation of the recent arrest and conviction of Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe leader Obert Masaraure, Chuma underscored the urgent need for collective resistance.
“If we don’t stand up, Mnangagwa and his bunch of criminals will pick us one by one like chickens ready for slaughter,” Chuma exclaimed. “Today they convicted @OMasaraure for a mere post of solidarity on X.
If the dictator can go this low, then resistance is a must. Defiance! Defiance! Defiance!”
Masaraure’s conviction, based on a social media post expressing solidarity, highlights the increasing clampdown on dissent and freedom of expression in Zimbabwe.
Chuma’s impassioned call to action reflects the growing frustration and fear among opposition members and civil society activists.
The opposition leader’s outcry did not end with Masaraure’s case.
On Africa Day, Chuma demanded accountability for high-level corruption linked to the exploitation of Zimbabwe’s mineral resources.
“Today on Africa Day, we call upon @PoliceZimbabwe to arrest Gold Mafia criminals as exposed by @AlJazeera documentary,” he stated. “Criminals looting our motherland must be locked up.
Our mineral wealth is being looted by foreigners via cartels linked to the highest office in the land!”
Chuma’s comments underscore the dual threats faced by Zimbabweans: political repression and rampant corruption.
The Al Jazeera documentary he referenced has exposed extensive gold smuggling operations allegedly involving top government officials, sparking public outrage and demands for justice.
As Zimbabwe grapples with these issues, Chuma’s vocal resistance and calls for defiance resonate with many citizens who are disillusioned by the current state of affairs.
His words serve as both a rallying cry and a dire warning of the potential consequences of inaction in the face of growing authoritarianism.
The political climate in Zimbabwe remains tense, with opposition figures and activists under increasing pressure.
Chuma’s statements reflect the urgency and gravity of the situation, emphasizing the need for unified and decisive action to challenge the current regime and protect the nation’s democratic principles.

CRSL FC Wangu Mazodze City 4 Black Eagles 1 ERSL Chiredzi Stars 0 FC Wangu Mazodze 1
Par Excellence! Brilliance! Perfection!
These are some of the superlatives to describe a good outing over the weekend by the two teams owned by US based football entrepreneur, Dr Richard Wangu Mazodze.
A breathtaking display of beautiful football from Wangu Mazodze teams is holding both the Central Region Soccer League (CRSL) and Eastern Region Soccer League (ERSL) spellbound. Despite being in its debut season in CRSL, FC Wangu Mazodze City is already causing shock waves in that league.
After a difficult start to the campaign, the team has found its footing in the league and is now just six points behind leaders after 9 rounds of matches.
The Isaac Nyabvure coached side has become talk of Kwekwe town after thumping the visiting Black Eagles 4-1 on Saturday. Football fans in that Midlands mining town surely can now begin to dream about a return of Premier Soccer League football to Baghdad Stadium.
In the Eastern Region, FC Wangu Mazodze under the tutelage of the experienced gaffer, Emeritus Rtd Warrant Officer Class II John Nyikadzino has not tasted defeat after 7 rounds of matches. A return of 6 wins and a draw is a clear sign that the team mean business this season.
To highlight how good they are, the Kingdom Boys have gone 630 minutes of football without conceding a goal.
By Political Reporter- Opposition politician Nelson Chamisa says he has exhausted all diplomatic ways of challenging vote rigging by Zanu PF and warns of practical action.
Over the weekend, Chamisa said there won’t be a repeat of 2023 or 2018 in 2028, the only way forward being to arrive at a clear resolution on the last stolen polls.

By Crime and Courts Reporter- Monica Mutsvangwa, the Women’s Affairs minister, has approached President Emerson Mnangagwa and appealed for the release of her son Neville, who is in remand Prison for trading ZiG on the Black Market.
Monica is rumoured to have had a long-standing relationship with Mnangagwa, dating back to Maputo, Mozambique, before independence in 1980.
Mnangagwa has not challenged this assertion in public.
Mutsvangwa caused Mnangagwa to invite a High Court judge, Justice Esther Muremba, who is presiding over Neville’s case.
Muremba has since recused herself from the case of citing intimidation.
Justice Muremba had postponed the ruling on Mutsvangwa’s bail application to Monday, 27 May, because she had not received a full record of proceedings from the Magistrates Court.
Instead of delivering the ruling this Monday, Muremba said she was standing down from the matter “for personal reasons”.
The matter will now be allocated to a different judge.

According to ZimLive, Muremba informed the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) that she felt “intimidated” after being summoned to the State House on Wednesday last week.
Muremba was hauled before President Emmerson Mnangagwa, Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi, and Neville’s mother, Monica.
The publication reported JSC sources as saying Mutsvangwa used the meeting to complain bitterly that the judge was mishandling the case.
Mnangagwa reportedly asked the judge to explain the status of the case. The judge allegedly said she had never been summoned to such a forum and she was uneasy. Said the source:
She still explained that the delay in delivering her ruling on the bail application was a result of receiving the record from the magistrates court late.
Mnangagwa listened to her explanation and concluded that her actions were above board.
He also said as a lawyer he respected the independence of the judiciary and the judge was excused.
The revelation that a judge was summoned by the president to discuss an ongoing case raises concerns in legal circles, as it seems to validate the notion that the judiciary is not independent of interference by ZANU PF elites.
Veteran lawyer David Coltart noted that it is highly uncommon for a judge to recuse themselves after hearing a case. He posted on X:
I am shocked by this. If the judge had personal reasons why she could not deal with the matter that should have been disclosed at the hearing itself and she should have recused herself then.
An accused person, who has been denied bail to date, now has to spend further time in custody whilst a new judge is allocated to the case.
If new reasons why the judge cannot deal with the matter have arisen since she first heard the matter, then those need to be disclosed to the accused’s counsel. Anything else is the antithesis of justice.
Neville (44) and his co-accused Elias Majachani and Simbarashe Tichingana are facing three criminal charges of illegal foreign currency dealings following their arrest on 08 May 2024.
He faces a separate charge of contravening the Postal and Telecommunications Act in that he was allegedly found in possession of an unlicensed Starlink router.
Mutsvangwa and his co-accused were denied bail by Harare magistrate Dennis Mangosi and appealed against the ruling at the High Court.
Prominent Mutare based bus operator, Isau Fungai Mupfumi who was arrested last Saturday following a spate of wild violent clashes by touts on Thursday has been granted bail.
Mupfumi who is a Zanu PF Central Committee member was granted US$1000 bail by Manicaland Provincial Magistrate, Tendai Mahwe on Monday afternoon.

Petina Gappah Apologizes to Mahere, Rehashing Public Domain Statements After Controversial Judge Backed Fadzayi
Harare, Zimbabwe – By Court Correspondent | Analysis | In a dramatic turn of events, acclaimed author and lawyer Petina Gappah has issued a public apology to Advocate Fadzayi Mahere, following a contentious defamation lawsuit that has gripped the nation’s attention since 2018. The apology comes after years of legal battles, unexpected twists, and intense courtroom drama that has favoured Mahere throughout, at a time when opposition figures like Nelson Chamisa and Job Sikhala are losing court battles every time.
Fadzayi Mahere had taken Gappah to court for defamation, demanding substantial damages for statements Gappah made on Twitter, now known as X. The case, which began in 2018, saw a series of unexpected developments, including the mysterious disappearance of key evidence from Gappah’s legal bundle and an approach by Mahere’s boyfriend with a proposal to settle the matter out of court. Gappah declined the offer, choosing to fight the case in court.
However, Gappah faced significant legal challenges. Justice Mafusire refused to recuse himself from the case, subsequently passing a sensational verdict that thwarted all of Gappah’s procedural applications. As a result, Gappah struggled to make progress in her defense, ultimately leading to her decision to apologize.
In a formal statement, Gappah retracted her previous claims, which included allegations about Mahere’s academic history and personal life. The apology reads:
**APOLOGY AND RETRACTION**
**FADZAYI MAHERE V PETINA GAPPAH HCH9390/18**
“In September 2018, following a public spat on Twitter, now X, I posted a number of statements about Advocate Fadzayi Mahere, namely that:
– She got into the University of Zimbabwe through the help of her father in 2004;
– She was an intern in The Hague in 2009;
– She attempted to ‘get into [the] pants’ of the father of my son after he asked me to help her with her application to Cambridge University; and
– I helped her to get into Cambridge by editing her application essay in October 2009.
Advocate Mahere considered my statements to be untruthful, defamatory, and injurious to her. Consequently, she launched legal action against me for causing ‘irreparable harm’ to her political career, her career as a civil society activist, and her career as an advocate.
In order to bring a conclusive end to the legal action, I hereby fully and unequivocally retract all the statements that I made about her, both on Twitter and in subsequent legal pleadings, and tender a full, public and unreserved apology to Advocate Mahere for any pain, hurt, or distress that were caused by my statements.
I wish Advocate Mahere continued success in her political career, her career as a civil society activist, and her career as an advocate.
As a demonstration of my good faith, sincerity, and regret, I undertake to make a donation in Advocate Mahere’s name to the charity of her choice. It is my sincere hope that this full retraction and apology brings finality and closure to this matter.”
While Gappah has offered this apology, it’s noteworthy that much of what she retracted had already been in the public domain, some of which was initially stated by activist Hopewell Chin’ono two years before Gappah repeated them. This aspect of rehashing known statements adds another layer of complexity to the litigation.
This apology marks a significant conclusion to a highly publicized legal dispute.
Such is their indomitable spirit that even when it looked like the team was headed for a draw against Chiredzi Stars yesterday, they found a way to score and win the match in the dying embers. That is a mark of champions!
Yesterday’s win extended FC Wangu Mazodze’s lead at the top of Eastern Region Soccer League with 5 points. Its early days, but Masvingo can now dream again of Premier Soccer League afternoons at Mucheke Stadium.

No wonder there are echoes sounding Dr Richard Wangu Mazodze to throw his name into the ZIFA Presidency race.
A significant development has occurred concerning the unjust arrest of five members of Women in Governance and Peacebuilding (WIGP). On April 21, 2024, 21 female human rights defenders from our organization were accused of loitering for prostitution while they were innocently relaxing at a local nightclub. Masvingo Magistrate has denied further remand for these five members, a notable step in their legal battle.
Advocate M. Chivasa from Dube-Banda Nzarayapenga and Partners is spearheading the defense against these baseless charges, with essential legal support from the Southern Africa Litigation Centre (SALC). Madock Chivasa of Dube-Banda Nzarayapenga and Partners is representing the accused in court.
Another group of our members is scheduled to face judgment on May 23, 2024. We remain hopeful for a favorable outcome and justice for all our defenders.
By Business Reporter- The country’s largest property developer, WestProp Holdings, has opened more land for housing development through its POMONA CITY housing project.
Pomona City road construction aerial view
Phases 1B, and C of the housing project rolled into life last week following the ongoing road construction.
Some housing units in Phase 1A are nearing completion.
The road construction opens the phase to 600 new housing units, ensuring that “our customers can now start building their dream homes”.
This week, WestProp CEO Mr Ken Sharpe and his management team went on a tour of the live, work, shop and play mixed development site to appreciate the work being done.
The road development is expected to excite more customers to snatch the remaining 140 stands.
“We are putting asphalt roads. It is a first for WestProp and we are reliably informed we are the second development to put asphalt on residential roads,” said Mr Sharpe.
Chief Projects Officer Mr Mandla Ndebele indicated the signature road will make Pomona City “the best place to live and enjoy street driving”.
On completion, the Pomona project would be worth US$4 billion.
Key infrastructure such as the Pomona US$630k multi-purpose gatehouse is already in place, and water storm drains and water reticulation are already in place.
Dubbed a city within a city because of its attributes that bring all urban aspects of life, work, shop, and play into one community, Pomona City is set to be a major prototype development that will be copied and replicated by other developers.
World-renowned architects were engaged in working on the master plan and building structures, making the development a fusion of cultures and very cosmopolitan.
The lifestyle community development combines the use of technology, communal living spaces and unique social amenities that differentiate the estate from the traditional suburban designs.
The social amenities are exclusively reserved for the owners of properties to preserve privacy and uphold value.
Infrastructure developments and designs at Pomona City mirror the ones largely found in Dubai, which have traits similar to those in modern world capitals.

Breaking News: Nelson Chamisa Announces Return, Calls for National Leadership
Harare, Zimbabwe –By Farai D Hove | ZimEye | In a stunning political development, Nelson Chamisa, Zimbabwe’s most popular leader, has announced his return to the political arena, dispelling widespread speculation about his resignation. In a brief but powerful press conference today, Chamisa outlined his vision for the country’s future, emphasizing the need for national leadership over party politics.
“We have proposed a clear way forward,” Chamisa declared. “What this nation needs is leadership, and what this nation has had is party leaders. We need national leaders. That is why I am available as a national leader, but I’m not available for partisan politics. We have engaged with different stakeholders in SADC.”
In his address, Chamisa was particularly critical of the current governmental structures, which he deemed illegitimate. “I must reiterate the point I made to them: there is a de facto government, there is a de facto parliament, and a de facto parliament is not a legitimate parliament,” he asserted.
Chamisa called upon Zimbabwean citizens to actively participate in shaping the nation’s future. “I urge fellow citizens to take an active role in the peaceful determination of the destiny of our country. I excel you,” he concluded, leaving the audience with a renewed sense of hope and urgency.
Chamisa’s return is likely to shake up the political landscape in Zimbabwe, where he remains a beloved figure with a strong following. As the country faces significant challenges, his leadership and vision may provide the direction many have been yearning for.- ZimEye
By A Correspondent| Zanu PF Spokesperson Christopher Mutsvangwa has admitted that his son Neville Mutsvangwa’s arrest and detention is giving the family difficult times.
Speaking a local radio station over the weekend Mutsvangwa said as a family they were going through extreme difficulties trying to cope with the situation.
High Court judge Justice Esther Muremba has recused herself from the Neville Mutsvangwa bail ruling citing personal reasons. The matter has since been referred back to the registrar. “Obviously as parents we are going through extreme difficulties but we have the fortitude,” he says. Neville is accused of contravening the Exchange Control Act, Bank Use Promotion and Suppression of Money Laundering Act as well as the Money Laundering and Proceeds of Crime Act.
There are unconfirmed claims that Neville was arrested and detained as part of controversial businessman Wicknell Chivhayo’s scheme to get the Starlink license without competition. Neville is believed to have been the first to seek a partnership with American billionaire Elon Musk to bring the much sought after Starlink deal.
By A Correspondent| High Court judge Justice Esther Muremba has recused herself from the Neville Mutsvangwa and two others matter citing personal reasons.
Justice Muremba was expected to deliver a ruling on bail applications by the accused today. She referred the matter back to the registrar.
It is intriguing to see how loud the cruel and oppressive wail when they are given the taste of their own medicine.
We have seen the tears of the savagery late President of Zimbabwe, Robert Mugabe and his family after he was deposed through a military coup. He spoke of being tormented by those he natured. Now, it is the spouses, Christopher Mutsvangwa ZANUpf Spokesman and Monica Mutswangwa, Minister of Women Affairs after their thieving son, Neville Mutsvangwa was arrested for illegally dealing in foreign currency and cash transfer. He was caught red handed with the tools of illicit trade and cash.
His parents are crying like small babies. In 2017 when he was coup Spokesman, Christopher Mutsvangwa told Aljazeera News that “speaking about Matabeleland genocide was being irresponsible”. Not to be out done Monica Mutsvangwa, during her time as Zimbabwe Minister of Information Publicity and Broadcasting Services, she threatened Matabeles with 2nd Matabele genocide after the Catholic bishops issued a pastoral letter criticising the Zimbabwe government for human rights violations.
She singled out an Matabele, Archbishop Ndlovu for attack, “Archbishop Robert Ndlovu is inching to lead the Zimbabwe Catholic Congregation into the darkest dungeons of Rwanda- type genocide”, said in statement. The message was understood in Matabeleland to mean that no Matabele should voice their concerns in Zimbabwe as that would invite 2nd Matabele genocide .
Neville Mutsvangwa was arrested the second time for the same offence. If his weeping parents wish to see their son they will visit him where other criminals are found ie police or prison cells.
What about more than 40 000 Matabeles that were slaughtered by the Zimbabwe government, what was their crime? What about more than 100 000 Matabele women that were raped by the Zimbabwe National 5th Brigade, what was their crime? What about 100 000 Matabeles who lost their homes that were burnt down, what was their crime? What about over 5 million Matabeles that are continuously being tribally marginalised and oppressed in Zimbabwe, what is their crime?
Heartless Mutsvangwas are always happy to rub salt into Matabele genocide wounds yet they shed rivers of tears for their thieving son. People of Matabeleland who lost their beloved ones have feelings like the Mutsvangwas and other Shona supremacists in Zanupf. People of Matabeleland have the right to life and self determination.
We hear that Christopher Mutsangwa harbours ambitions for the presidential post which should be up for grabs in about four years.
In Zimbabwe that is submerged in tribalism which Christopher and his wife, Monica Mustvangwa subscribe to, voluntarily and happily advocate for, salivating for the highest post in the land is as good as declaring war against the other Shona clans that have their own presidential candidates.
The incumbent President, Emmerson Mnangagwa and his Karanga clan want to keep it to themselves. We hope Mutsvangwa has not forgotten that his boss is not very kind to those who have an appetite for his position. He deals with them in the most cruel manner. Constantino Chiwenga who was scammed by the Karangas through a gentleman agreement wants it, actually he thinks it should be an automatic entry for him. For your own information, the Generari is also heartless. Saviour Kasukuwere is in the cold in exile, he and his Zezuru- Korekore Alliance want it too.
As Chris and Monica Mutsvangwa wish to be the first family of Zimbabwe, they must brace themselves for political persecution by prosecution, verbal and tribal attacks or at worse, elimination by assassination. That is the punishment for harbouring ambitions for the position of President in Zanupf. Tribal wars and slaughtering each other for positions has been the culture of Zanupf since it was formed in 1963.
We in Matabeleland do not subscribe to this animal like behaviour of murdering each other for positions, genocide against innocent Matabele civilians, military coups, tribal oppression, failure to run opposition parties, economy, empty arrogance that goes with Shona supremacism, culture of begging, corruption, theft and witch- craft which is in the Shona people’s DNA.
Our demand for the restoration of Matabeleland state which was delivered to the Zimbabwe government by MLO President Cde Paul Siwela in 2015 is in order, justified and none- negotiable.
i) we demand the restoration of Matabeleland state as at 3 November 1893
ii) we demand US$ 100 billion as reparations for Matabele genocide + interest accumulated as from the date the letter of demand was delivered to the Zimbabwe government
iii) we demand the unconditional withdrawal of trumped up treason charges and warrant arrest for MLO President Cde Paul Siwela
By A Correspondent| Former columnist of The Herald, Reason Wafawarova has dropped a bombshell on Facebook after claiming that controversial businessman and ex-convict Wicknell Chivhayo is renting a house that he is staying.
Recent media reports have alleged that Chivhayo is staying at former Police Commissioner General Augustine Chihuri’s US$7 Million house.
Recently Chivhayo offered Chimurenga music icon Dr Thomas Tafirenyika Mapfumo a house worth US$700 000 and an am upkeep allowance of US$300 000.
He also donated US$1 Million to the Johane Marange church and has been on a spending spree splashing money on cars for musicians and Zanu PF activists.
This has raised so much questions in society as no-one really understands Chivhayo’s business operations.
Now Wafawarova has claimed that the flamboyant but controversial figure does not have the money that he continuously claim to have, alleging that there is some high profile person behind his pseudo-philanthropy.
“I hear he paid advance rent of $160 000 for the rented property he resides at. Then he is offering Mapfumo a $700K house and a $300K upkeep allowance. Who is financing his pseudo-philanthropy and what’s the game plan? The cars, the $1 million to ZCC, and all the numerous gifts?,” said Wafawarova.
Meanwhile, President Emmerson Mnangagwa has given the sole and exclusive rights to distribute Starlink devices in the country in a move that has quoted controversy as the chubby businessman has of late been seen with Mnangagwa even at official government events.
The revelations by Reason Wafawarova have added another layer of complexity to the enigmatic figure of Wicknell Chivhayo, a businessman whose flamboyant lifestyle and controversial past have always drawn public scrutiny. Chivhayo’s reputation is a blend of high-profile generosity and a murky financial background, which has now come under further examination following Wafawarova’s claims.
The context of Chivhayo’s spending is critical to understanding the significance of these allegations. His offer of a US$700,000 house and US$300,000 upkeep allowance to Dr. Thomas Mapfumo, a revered figure in Zimbabwean music, was seen by many as a grand gesture. However, in light of Wafawarova’s claims, such magnanimity is now questioned. Is this generosity a façade backed by unseen financial muscles, or is it a genuine act of philanthropy? The narrative is further complicated by Chivhayo’s US$1 million donation to the Johane Marange church and the luxury cars he has lavished on musicians and political figures, particularly those aligned with Zanu PF.
Wafawarova’s insinuations suggest a deeper intrigue, possibly involving high-ranking officials or hidden benefactors. His pointed question, “Who is financing his pseudo-philanthropy and what’s the game plan?” resonates with a public increasingly skeptical of unchecked wealth and influence. These allegations prompt a broader investigation into the sources of Chivhayo’s funds and the motivations behind his extravagant spending.
Moreover, Chivhayo’s close ties with President Mnangagwa have raised concerns about political patronage and corruption. The exclusive rights to distribute Starlink devices—a significant and potentially lucrative deal—granted to Chivhayo have stoked suspicions of favoritism. Mnangagwa’s government, already criticized for cronyism and lack of transparency, faces further backlash with this association. Chivhayo’s frequent appearances alongside Mnangagwa at official events bolster the narrative of a cozy relationship between business and politics in Zimbabwe, where the lines of power and wealth often blur.
Public reaction to these developments has been one of growing skepticism and demand for accountability. Zimbabweans, who have witnessed decades of economic turmoil and political corruption, view Chivhayo’s story with a mix of intrigue and wariness. The potential exposure of a financial puppet master behind Chivhayo’s ostentatious acts would not only tarnish his image but could also implicate key figures in the government, leading to significant political ramifications.
In summary, the bombshell dropped by Wafawarova challenges the public to reconsider the narrative of Wicknell Chivhayo. It shifts the spotlight onto potential hidden dynamics of power and wealth in Zimbabwe, calling for greater scrutiny and transparency. Whether Chivhayo is a genuine philanthropist or a front for more sinister financial operations remains a pivotal question, the answer to which could unravel deeper truths about the interplay of business and politics in the country.
