Rural Teachers Enraged By US$20 Salary Increment

The Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ) has raised concerns over the recent salary increment awarded to civil servants by the government.

The increment, amounting to US$20, has been deemed inadequate by ARTUZ, prompting discussions about the need for a more substantial review.
In their critique, ARTUZ has specifically targeted Cecilia Alexander and the entire leadership of the Zimbabwe Confederation of Public Sector Trade Unions (ZCPSTU)—formerly known as the Apex Council.
According to ARTUZ, these leaders have failed to adequately represent civil servants’ interests, resulting in what they perceive as unfavorable deals. ARTUZ’s statement reads:
Cecilia Alexander and her cabal of imposters have made themselves life negotiators on behalf of Civil servants. They always bring back rotten deals! The nonsense stops now! Government is advised that we are not accepting USD 20 increment and a mass action will be announced!
Earlier this week, ZCPSTU expressed frustration over the lack of progress in salary negotiations with the government, especially given the rising cost of living. The union accused the government of failing to honor its commitment to convene a National Joint Negotiating Council (NJNC) meeting every quarter.
Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe Teachers’ Association (ZIMTA) has also weighed in, urging the government to address the issue of teachers’ salaries promptly. ZIMTA specifically calls for a review of the United States Dollar component in their compensation.
In their official statement issued on March 12, 2024, ZIMTA emphasized the urgency of resolving the negotiation stalemate. They assert that prolonged inaction and disregard for teachers’ concerns cannot be tolerated any longer.
It’s important to note that civil servants currently earn less than US$300 per month, in addition to a local currency salary component that falls below US$100.

Gokwe Villager In Trouble For Calling ED A ‘Scud’

Gokwe villager Mark Mandiki has landed himself in trouble after he allegedly labelled President Emmerson Mnangagwa a “SCUD”.

Mandiki allegedly made the remarks on February 25, 2023, during a heated verbal exchange with a Zanu-PF member, Doubt Tonhorayi.

He appeared in court Wednesday charged with undermining and insulting the Office of the President.

“Your President Mnangagwa looks like an ancient opaque beer container known as SCUD, which is why it was named ED because it is as rotten as him,” part of the charge sheet read.

On Wednesday, the State closed its case after three witnesses had testified in the matter.

Mandiki, who is expected to submit his defence on April 3, claims Tonhorayi is framing him to settle political scores.

He claims Tonhorayi was once an opposition activist before switching to Zanu-PF, hence there is bad between them.

Prosecutor Michael Reza in Acts of Misconduct

By A Correspondent| In a shocking revelation, the case against activists Joana Mamombe and Cecilia Chimbiri, members of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), has been marred by allegations of misconduct involving Harare Prosecutor Michael Reza.

The intricate web of deceit allegedly orchestrated by Reza has cast doubt on the integrity of the legal proceedings.

The scandal unfolded on October 28, 2020, when Reza, purportedly in collusion with an individual from his office identified as Chigaba, allegedly forged the signature of Prosecutor George Manokore.

This deceptive maneuver, according to reports, aimed to create the false impression that Manokore had signed an affidavit when, in reality, he was absent from work on that fateful day.

Further scrutiny reveals that Manokore did not appear before the relevant authorities, raising questions about the legality of the affidavit commissioned in his absence.

The affidavit in question was subsequently filed on behalf of the State by Reza in the case number HC 6207/22, perpetuating what appears to be a fraudulent scheme.

Manokore is said to have evaded involvement by leaving his workplace and citing personal reasons for his absence the following day.

Tafadzwa Chigaba, identified as a participant in forging signatures, reportedly expressed frustration over being manipulated for such illicit purposes.

Compounding the allegations, it is said Reza received unlawful gifts or considerations, including a four-bedroom apartment, allegedly awarded by Ken Sharpe, at the Pokugara complex in Borrowdale.

These purported gifts, tied to Reza’s aggressive pursuit of cases involving political figures such as Tendai Biti raise concerns about impartiality and ethical conduct within the legal system.

Reza’s conduct, as described by unnamed sources, paints a picture of a prosecutor who portrays himself as incorruptible while allegedly engaging in egregious misconduct behind the scenes.

His actions, including self-appointment to represent the State in the High Court and alleged protection of certain individuals, highlight systemic flaws and potential abuse of power within the legal framework.

As these allegations come to light, calls for a thorough investigation into Reza’s tenure and practices at Rotten Row echo among concerned people within the Judiciary.

Zanu PF Members In Trouble For “Misusing” Social Media

By A Correspondent

In a move that highlights internal tensions within Zimbabwe’s ruling party, Zanu PF, senior party officials have come under fire for releasing unauthorized media statements.

The party’s reprimand, issued on Thursday, underscores the challenges of maintaining unity and coherence within the organization.

The controversy stems from comments made by senior Zanu PF officials regarding the removal of sanctions, which were not sanctioned by the party’s leadership.

This breach of protocol has raised concerns among observers, who see it as indicative of deeper divisions within the party.

Zanu PF’s directive explicitly prohibits members from independently releasing statements or engaging with the media without prior approval. This includes refraining from posting content on social media platforms.

The party emphasizes the importance of adhering to official channels for communication to ensure consistency and prevent the dissemination of conflicting messages.

According to the statement issued by Zanu PF, unauthorized communications risk undermining the party’s unified stance on key issues, potentially causing confusion among supporters and the public.

By centralizing communication through designated party offices, Zanu PF aims to maintain control over its messaging and prevent the spread of misinformation or divergent viewpoints.

The reprimand serves as a reminder of the strict hierarchical structure within Zanu PF, where adherence to party discipline is paramount.

Any deviation from the established protocol is swiftly addressed to safeguard the party’s interests and reputation.

However, the incident also sheds light on the internal dynamics of Zanu PF, with speculation rife about the motivations behind the unauthorized statements.

Some observers interpret the actions of the implicated officials as symptomatic of power struggles and factionalism within the party, particularly in the face of mounting challenges and public scrutiny.

As Zimbabwe grapples with economic hardships and political uncertainties, the cohesion of Zanu PF becomes increasingly crucial.

Internal rifts and conflicting narratives only serve to undermine the party’s credibility and effectiveness in governance, posing a threat to stability and progress.

In response to the controversy, Zanu PF has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining discipline and unity among its members.

The party’s leadership emphasizes the need for collective responsibility and adherence to established protocols for communication and decision-making.

Moving forward, Zanu PF faces the challenge of addressing internal divisions and fostering a more cohesive and inclusive approach to governance.

Only through concerted efforts to bridge differences and promote transparency can the party regain public trust and effectively lead Zimbabwe towards a brighter future.

Everybody Loves Zanu PF – Mnangagwa

By A Correspondent

In a surprising move, President Emmerson Mnangagwa of Zimbabwe has extended an invitation to all, regardless of past differences, to join the ruling party, Zanu PF.

This unprecedented call comes in the wake of the readmission of former members who had previously been expelled or suspended from the party.

Notable among those welcomed back into the fold are individuals who once held significant positions within Zanu PF, including Dr. Ignatius Chombo, Killer Zivhu, Robert Nyemudzo, and Petronella Kagonye, among others.

Their return marks a shift in the party’s stance, signaling a willingness to reconcile and unite for the greater good.

Speaking on behalf of the party, Zanu PF Secretary-General Obert Mpofu confirmed the development, emphasizing Mnangagwa’s magnanimity.

Mpofu highlighted the president’s forgiving nature, stating, “His Excellency President Mnangagwa is a pardoning leader. He doesn’t hold grudges against anybody no matter how much you tormented him or challenged him.”

“This gesture of reconciliation reflects President Mnangagwa’s vision for a united Zanu PF, where internal divisions are set aside in favor of a cohesive and inclusive party.”

Mpofu reiterated the president’s sentiments, noting that Zanu PF is greater than any individual and has the capacity to accommodate all who are willing to contribute positively to its objectives.

The decision to welcome back former members may come as a surprise to some, given the tumultuous history of Zimbabwean politics and the often divisive nature of party affiliations.

By extending this olive branch, Mnangagwa not only seeks to heal past wounds within the party but also to foster a spirit of reconciliation and cooperation across the political spectrum, according to Mpofu.

DeMbare In Tricky Fixture Against Hwange

Dynamos coach Genesis Mangombe believes his charges will bounce back from last week’s defeat to rivals Highlanders at Babourfields, when they face Hwange at the same venue tomorrow.

The youthful coach’s experiment of starting arguably the biggest match of the Premier Soccer League with five recruits —Nomore Chinyerere, Frederick Ansah Botchway, Temptation Chiwunga, Valentine Kadonzvo and Alexander Mandinyenya backfired, as Bosso deservedly won the game.

Highlanders won the game 2-1 courtesy of goals on either side of the half time break from Melikhaya Ncube and Achiford Faira, while Mandinyenya got Dynamos’ consolation.

Mangombe however believes his troops, who trained at Rufaro Stadium yesterday ahead of the trip to Bulawayo, will correct their mistakes from the defeat to Bosso and collect maximum points against a tricky Hwange.

“We need to start collecting maximum points and looking at our opponent, they collected maximum against Yadah, they will want to maintain that fine run,” said Mangombe.

“Hwange is always a tricky side, we have been working on how they play and exploring ways on how we are going to maneuver especially in the attacking third and pull a setback on them.

“They also have what it takes and the experience on their squad so we need to be prepared for this game and with what we have been doing,” he added.

DeMbare welcomed back to training midfielder Tanaka Shandirwa, who missed the Highlanders game.

UK Govt Revokes Operating License For A Care Company Set Up And Run By A Zimbabwean Nurse

A care company has had its licence to sponsor workers from abroad revoked by the Home Office amid an investigation into claims it was breaching migrant worker rules.

Support Services First Choice Limitedset up by a Zimbabwean national Ottilia Chingosho is being investigated by the UK government, which says it will not tolerate what it calls “illegal activity in the labour market”.

The Hawick-based firm provides healthcare workers who support people living in their own homes across the Borders region.

But its international sponsorship licence, which allows it to use relaxed immigration rules to fill vacancies, has been suspended after concerns were raised over how staff were treated.

In a statement, the Home Office said the care provider was found to be non-compliant with the requirements for organisations that hold a sponsor licence for migrant workers.

It said it would be “inappropriate to comment while an investigation is ongoing” and that “any accusations of illegal employment practices are thoroughly looked into”.

Under its rules – based on a 37.5 hour working week limit – staff must be paid a minimum of £20,960, or £10.75 per hour, whichever is higher.

Those found operating unlawfully, and paying staff less, can face prosecution.

The revoking of the licence was first reported in The Times,

Scottish Borders Council (SBC) confirmed it was working with the Home Office to alleviate care worker shortages created by the current investigation into the company.

In a statement, the local authority said: “A care provider has lost their international sponsorship licence and we are engaging with all parties to ensure continuity of care.”

It added it was “unable to comment” on “the exact circumstances that led to the loss of the licence” which are the subject of the inquiry.

The firm was registered to an address at Edinburgh Napier University, before moving to Teviot Crescent in the centre of Hawick in 2021.

The Scottish government’s Care Inspectorate confirmed it was “aware of Home Office action” in relation to Support Services First Choice.

In a statement, it said it was “working closely with SBC and partners to ensure people continue to experience care which meets their needs and respects their rights”.

Scottish Care, who represent the largest group of social care providers across Scotland, said it “recognises international staff are a critical part of the delivery of all social care in Scotland”.

A spokesman added: “It is critical those coming to work in Scotland are supported in a manner which is both ethical and legal, and which supports their rights and dignity”.

He added that “illegal practices are never acceptable in any circumstances”.

Support Services First Choice have been approached for comment.

Is Wicknell Chivhayo Now More Popular Than Nelson Chamisa?

By Garikai Chaunza-In recent times, the spotlight in Zimbabwe has shifted, with controversial businessman Wicknell Chivhayo eclipsing even the charismatic opposition figure Nelson Chamisa in terms of public attention.

Garikai Chaunza

This shift raises intriguing questions about the dynamics of popularity in contemporary Zimbabwean society. Chivhayo’s sudden surge in prominence can be attributed to his involvement in a Zanu PF-sponsored initiative, where he is on a lavish spree of distributing free expensive cars to Zimbabwean celebrities.

This strategy, strongly believed to be orchestrated by Zanu PF with an eye on the 2028 elections, aims to leverage the influence of these celebrities to bolster the image of the ruling party, which has been grappling with unpopularity. By aligning himself with Zanu PF’s agenda, Chivhayo has managed to capture the public’s attention in a manner that even seasoned politicians like Chamisa have struggled to achieve. His generosity towards celebrities, mostly musicians and radio DJs, has garnered widespread media coverage and social media buzz, effectively thrusting him into the limelight.

The argument about Chivhayo’s alignment with Zanu PF can be supported by his mention of either the ruling party or the projects linked to the First family when dishing out these so-called gifts to the recipients.

Meanwhile, Chamisa, once hailed as the most sought-after political figure in Zimbabwe finds himself in a relatively subdued position. Since his departure from the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) in January, Chamisa has maintained a low profile, seemingly sidelined from the political discourse that he once dominated.

Chamisa’s diminished presence can be attributed to internal strife within the opposition movement, as evidenced by his departure from the party he founded nearly three years ago. Allegations of betrayal and intrigue among his close allies have further weakened his position, leaving him with fewer avenues to assert his influence.

Moreover, Chamisa’s electoral defeat in the 2018 elections, which he claims was marred by rigging orchestrated by Zanu PF, has undoubtedly dented his aura of invincibility. Despite his spirited challenge to President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s rule, Chamisa’s inability to clinch victory in the face of alleged electoral malpractice has raised questions about his political efficacy.

In comparing the popularity of Chivhayo and Chamisa, it becomes apparent that the former’s ascent is emblematic of a broader trend in Zimbabwean society. The allure of wealth and extravagance, coupled with strategic alliances with powerful political entities, can often overshadow the charisma and political acumen of even the most formidable opponents.

However, it would be premature to write off Chamisa entirely. His resilience and ability to connect with ordinary Zimbabweans have been evident throughout his political career. While he may currently be facing challenges, Chamisa has proven himself to be a formidable force in Zimbabwean politics, capable of staging comebacks and reshaping the political landscape.

I argue that the rise of Chivhayo vis-à-vis Chamisa underlines the complex interplay between controversial wealth, power, and charisma in shaping public perceptions.

While Chivhayo’s prominence may be a testament to the allure of his controversial material wealth and political patronage, Chamisa’s enduring appeal lies in his ability to champion the aspirations of the Zimbabwean people.

As the political landscape continues to evolve, only time will tell whether Chivhayo’s moment in the spotlight is fleeting or if Chamisa can reclaim his position as the preeminent figure in Zimbabwean politics.

Senior Zanu PF Officials In Trouble For Releasing Unauthorized Media Statements

Chivayo Urinates On Poor People…

Two Zimbabwean Musicians Cry For Brand New Cars From Wicknell Chivayo

By A Correspondent

In a poignant display of desperation tinged with hope, two Zimbabwean musicians have taken to social media to publicly plead for cars from controversial businessman Wicknell Chivayo.

The gesture underscores the harsh economic realities facing artists in the country, where poverty has pushed many to seek support from affluent figures like Chivayo.

The musicians, whose names remain undisclosed, showcased their plea in a video performance, symbolizing the increasingly prevalent trend of artists resorting to unconventional means to secure basic necessities like transportation.

Chivayo, known for his flamboyant lifestyle and controversial business dealings, has emerged as a quasi-patron of sorts, showering cars upon musicians and celebrities akin to a modern-day Father Christmas.

In a display of ostentation typical of his persona, Chivayo boasted on his official Facebook page about his philanthropic endeavors, likening himself to a benevolent figure bestowing gifts upon the deserving.

His post, laden with emojis of applause and astonishment, underscores the spectacle surrounding his actions and the attention they garner.

Observers have lamented the state of affairs, noting how poverty has reduced talented musicians to beggars, dependent on the goodwill of affluent individuals like Chivayo to sustain their careers and livelihoods.

The disparity between the opulence enjoyed by a select few and the destitution endured by the masses highlights the broader socio-economic inequalities plaguing Zimbabwe.

The plight of Zimbabwean musicians reflects a larger narrative of struggle and resilience in the face of adversity.

Despite the challenges, artists continue to persevere, utilizing their creativity and resourcefulness to navigate a landscape fraught with obstacles.

However, the reliance on external benefactors like Chivayo underscores the need for systemic reforms to support the arts and empower artists to thrive independently.

As the debate surrounding Chivayo’s benevolence rages on, it is imperative to address the root causes of poverty and inequality in Zimbabwe.

Sustainable solutions that prioritize economic empowerment, access to opportunities, and support for the arts sector are essential to ensure that artists no longer find themselves at the mercy of wealthy benefactors for their basic needs.

In the meantime, the plea for car sponsorships serves as a poignant reminder of the challenges faced by Zimbabwean musicians and the resilience they exhibit in their pursuit of artistic expression amidst adversity.

It is a call to action for society to rally behind its artists, recognizing their invaluable contributions and working towards a future where talent flourishes independent of economic constraints.

I hope you found a conjusive environment to discuss. Diamonds can store wealth and improve the livelihoods of our people… the proposed restrictions on sale of diamonds are unacceptable. Our collective voice as Africa on the declining price of the rough diamonds must be heard.

Mining entities are being encouraged to be environmentally friendly. Innovation is required for efficiency and to attain global standards.

The manner we extract our resources must go in hand with good extraction practices that are community centered.

We must leverage our resources to build our continent brick by brick and stone by stone.

Communities where mining takes place should be empowered for long after resources are depleted.

The growth of the sector should empower down stream.

The natural diamonds prices are declining and need to be protected through coming up with new strategies. African people should take pride and be consumers of our own products and not mere producers.

A modern and industrialised Africa will become a reality through value addition and benefition of our resources.

It is through the cutting and polishing of our diamonds that will make us benefit from our diamonds. The time has come for us to cut and polish our diamonds and increase exploration of diamonds.

Let us continue to explore for new minerals… to this end l say the decision to come up with ideas that benfit us rest with us, to this end l say l declare this 9th ordinary meeting of the ADPA officially opened.

Mnangagwa Invites Everyone To Join Zanu PF Today

Mnangagwa Says Ally He Once Fired Is The Best Performing Minister

Chipinge On The Verge Of Making History

Chipinge will make history this month when it probably becomes the only town in Zimbabwe with more than enough water for all its residents.

This follows the completion of a US$1,9 million water reticulation system upgrade project by the local authority and United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS).

Water supply will increase from 5 to 10Mega litres while the demand stands at 9Mega litres. Several towns, Chitungwiza and Mabvuku suburb included have gone for 20 years without tape water.

Towns like Gweru Bulawayo etc are struggling with water supply.

World Met Day: Addressing the Climate Crisis

By A Correspondent

Climate change, fuelled by various activities such as burning fossil fuels and deforestation, is a heavy toll on the planet.

From rising temperatures to extreme weather events, the effects of climate change are becoming increasingly apparent and dire. One of the most visible consequences of climate change is the warming of the planet.

Average global temperatures have been steadily rising, leading to melting ice caps, shrinking glaciers, and rising sea levels. These changes not only threaten ecosystems and biodiversity but also put coastal communities at risk of flooding and displacement.Extreme weather events, including hurricanes, droughts, and wildfires, are becoming more frequent and intense due to climate change.

These events not only cause immediate devastation but also have long-lasting economic and social impacts, disrupting livelihoods and exacerbating poverty and inequality.

Girl Dismissed From Military School Over Uncut Hair

By A Correspondent| A Primary school in Bulawayo has expelled a Grade 6 pupil over uncut hair.

The pupil was given her marching orders two days ago.

According to sources, Indlovu Iyanyathela Primary School head Themba Siziba called the girl’s father and told him not to bother himself by sending his daughter to the school.

Indlovu Iyanyathela Primary School is situated at Khumalo Barracks, formerly Brady Barracks, in Paddonhurst, Bulawayo.

Siziba asked the girl’s father if he had taken note of his daughter’s hair and that she was supposed to have it cut.

Siziba said there seemed to be some “resistance” since last year to have her hair cut.

“Before the end of this week, please come and get her transfer letter so that she goes to another school when she can do as she pleases,” he told the girl’s father.

“We want to register pupils here for the Grade 7 classes, but we are not going to register her. I am done with you.

“Don’t bother sending her to this school ever again, she can go to other schools, but not here.

“We have rules here and those rules should be followed.”

When the girl’s father told Siziba that “you don’t have to be emotional,” the latter exploded, an audio recording.

“We gave you a grace period, but here you are telling me about my being emotional. In fact, no one came to me to discuss this issue despite repeated efforts to engage you.”

The girl’s father countered the claim saying he had sent a letter from the doctor which stated that his daughter should not have her hair cut.

A letter written by one Dr Kuravone of Mpilo Central Hospital and dated March 15, 2022 reads: “This is to confirm that the above-named is being managed at our hospital for a condition associated with exposure (to) the sun. Based on our investigations, she is at an increased risk of developing pigmentosa and we see it fit that as part of the protection from the condition, she should not be bald or cut her hair.”

Retinitis pigmentosa is a rare, inherited degenerative eye disease that causes sever vision impairment, according to an internet search on Mayo Clinic website.

Primary and Secondary Education ministry spokesperson Taungana Ndoro promised to look into the matter.

Civil Servants Salaries Not Enough To Pay For Funeral Assurance

By A Correspondent| According to Raymond Majongwe, the Secretary General of the Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (PTUZ), funeral assurance companies have begun informing civil servants that the RTGS component of their salaries is insufficient to cover their monthly contributions.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Majongwe stated:

“Teachers and other civil servants are now receiving messages from a funeral assurance service provider, notifying them that their RTGS salary no longer covers the necessary deductions. In other jurisdictions, such a situation would compel the government to raise wages, but sadly not here. It’s a lamentable state of affairs.”

Opposition MP Presses Social Welfare Minister Over Pensioner Payouts

By A Correspondent| Opposition legislator Mutsa Murombedzi of Mashonaland West yesterday took Minister of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare, July Moyo to task over the government’s neglect of pensioners’ welfare.

Murombedzi took the floor to address what he described as the ongoing plight of pensioners who, he claimed, were being “tossed from one Ministry to the other.”

She highlighted a question raised on February 13th regarding the inadequacy of pension payments, emphasizing the dire situation faced by pensioners who require daily medication but lack the financial means to acquire it.

“The pension for pensioners needs to be looked into but the Minister said they were going to look into it. It is now a month down the line and nothing has been done to correct the anomaly.

“We have pensioners who require medication on daily basis but they have not received any concrete response from the relevant ministries.

“They are living in poverty because the pensions that they are getting are meagre and insufficient,” said Murombedzi.

She criticized the lack of tangible responses from relevant ministries, arguing that pensioners were enduring poverty due to meagre and insufficient pensions.

“Ministers should tell us tangible things so that the money that they are getting as pensioners will be able to sustain them and buy drugs for them,” added Murombedzi.

Responding to Murombedzi’s impassioned plea, Minister July Moyo defended the government’s stance, asserting that a “tangible response requires a tangible question.”

He maintained that he had provided a concrete statement regarding government policy when queried on the matter, implying that further action was contingent upon specific inquiries.

Drunken Driver Kills Kids In Accident

The quiet outskirts of Mutare, specifically the Toronto area of Penhalonga, was the scene of a heart-wrenching tragedy that has sparked outrage and grief in equal measure. On an otherwise ordinary day, the lives of three young learners were abruptly ended, casting a long shadow over the community. The accident, involving a speeding vehicle driven by a visibly intoxicated driver along Christmas Pass-Shamu Road, has exposed the deadly consequences of reckless driving and the critical need for stricter enforcement of road safety laws.

The deceased were identified as Blessing Chasarira, nine, Silvian Maponde, thirteen, and Strive Maponde, nine. All hailed from Chirochangu Plot, Toronto, and were the cherished children of a couple who now face the unimaginable grief of losing their only offspring in an instant. Witnesses at the scene described the driver, John Dumbura, as “stone drunk” and driving at excessive speeds, a lethal combination that culminated in this tragedy.

Acting Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka, confirmed the incident, stating, “The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms a road traffic accident in which three learners were killed… when a Toyota Fortuner vehicle veered off the road to the left and knocked down the learners who were crossing the road.” The community’s sorrow is palpable, with neighbors struggling to console the bereaved families, and an atmosphere of mourning enveloping the area.

The parents of Silvian and Strive Maponde, upon arriving at the horrific scene, were confronted with a loss so profound that words fail to capture their despair. Mr. Gift Maponde, through tears, recounted the moments leading up to the accident, emphasizing the preventable nature of this calamity. “My children… were hit by the car and died on the spot. They are gone,” he lamented, the pain in his voice underscoring the devastating impact of Dumbura’s recklessness.

Eyewitness accounts further illustrate the sheer negligence that led to the accident. Mrs. Primrose Masiiyiwa, a witness, recounted the children’s careful approach to crossing the road, only to have their lives stolen in a flash by the oncoming vehicle. Another witness, Mr. Malvin Makoni, highlighted the aftermath of the crash and the evident intoxication of the driver, reinforcing the community’s outrage and disbelief.

This tragedy underscores a harsh reality: the deadly consequences of drunk driving and the urgent need for stricter enforcement of road safety regulations. The loss of Blessing, Silvian, and Strive is a wake-up call, a grievous reminder of what is at stake when individuals choose to disregard the safety of others. As the community mourns, there is a collective call for accountability and change, for measures that ensure no other family endures the unfathomable pain of losing loved ones to such senseless acts.

The incident not only demands justice for the young victims but also serves as a critical examination of societal attitudes towards road safety and the collective responsibility to prevent future tragedies. In honoring the memory of those lost, there is a pressing need for concerted efforts to enhance road safety, from stricter penalties for offenders to increased public awareness campaigns, ensuring that roads do not become graveyards for the innocent.

Accident: Bikers Killed

Two motorcyclists, each carrying a passenger, perished in a devastating head-on collision in Mutasa District, near London Stores. This incident brings to light the critical importance of adherence to traffic regulations and the often fatal consequences of their neglect.

Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka, the Acting Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, confirmed the incident, offering a detailed account of the events leading up to the fatal collision. “Richard Shorwa (26) was riding an unregistered red Lifan motorbike, while Silent Faro was on an unregistered blue motorcycle. The accident occurred when Faro, emerging from a feeder road, failed to yield to Shorwa, who was navigating another feeder road. This lapse in road safety protocol resulted in a direct collision at the intersection near London Stores,” Chinyoka detailed.

The victims, immediately following the accident, were rushed to Bonda Mission Hospital. Despite the efforts to save them, both bikers succumbed to their injuries upon admission. “Due to the impact of the collision, all parties involved were severely injured and subsequently rushed to Bonda Mission Hospital where the bikers both died on admission,” Chinyoka elaborated, highlighting the grave consequences of the accident.

In his recounting of the event, Assistant Inspector Chinyoka didn’t merely provide a narrative but also seized the opportunity to emphasize the importance of vigilance and responsibility on the roads. “This tragic incident serves as a somber reminder for motorists and cyclists alike to exercise due care and caution when on the road,” he urged, stressing the necessity for all road users to adhere strictly to traffic laws to prevent such unnecessary loss of life.

Parallel to this heartbreaking incident, Chinyoka reported another unrelated but equally tragic accident in Chief Ngorima’s area along the Jopa-Kopa Road. A 48-year-old man, Angirai Ruwa, lost his life when the vehicle he was in, a white Nissan UD80 truck driven by Michael Mhika, carrying pit sand and five passengers, suffered a brake failure. “Upon approaching Kopa Business Centre, where there is a steep slope and a sharp curve, Mhika’s vehicle developed brake failure, veered off the road, overturned once, and plunged into a valley, resulting in Ruwa’s instant death,” Chinyoka detailed.

These incidents starkly highlight the unpredictable and often perilous nature of road travel, underscoring the imperative of preventive measures such as regular vehicle maintenance, adherence to road signs, and cautious driving, especially in areas known for challenging terrain.

Assistant Inspector Chinyoka’s reports not only mourn the loss of lives but also serve as a critical call to action for all road users to prioritize safety, thereby honoring the memory of those lost by preventing future tragedies.- Manica Post

Magistrate Accuses ZRP Cop Of Cheating

In a case that may illustrate the complex interplay of personal, professional, and legal spheres, the incident involving police officer Chipo Mukwasi in a Bulawayo courtroom ignites a debate about the fairness and decorum of legal proceedings. The decision by Magistrate Vakayi Chikwekwe, demanding Mukwasi to leave the courtroom and change from her police uniform into civilian attire, raises questions about the inherent values and biases within the judiciary system, particularly regarding the treatment of individuals in uniform.

This article seeks to explore the underlying issues of fairness and justice in the case, examining the implications of the magistrate’s decision and the broader societal and legal contexts in which it occurred.

### Unpacking the Incident

Chipo Mukwasi found herself embroiled in a legal battle after being sued for US$5,000 by Yeukai Pfumbirai, who accused Mukwasi of having an affair with her husband. This lawsuit culminated in a courtroom scene that many have criticized as unduly humiliating for Mukwasi. The demand for her to change out of her uniform not only served to embarrass her but also stripped her of the professional identity that the uniform represents. The act can be interpreted as an attempt to diminish her authority and presence, which is particularly concerning given the respect and dignity typically afforded to law enforcement officers.

The subsequent garnishee order, reduced to US$75 from the requested US$200 by the magistrate, further complicates the narrative. It highlights the magistrate’s discretionary power in legal proceedings, which, in this instance, appears to have been exercised in a manner that some may view as punitive beyond the financial judgment already imposed on Mukwasi.

### The Intersection of Professionalism and Legal Judgments

The magistrate’s decision to have Mukwasi change out of her uniform touches on the broader issue of how legal systems interact with professional identities. Uniforms carry symbolic weight, representing not just the individual but the institution they belong to. The order to remove it, especially in a public and professional setting like a courtroom, sends a message that could be interpreted as undermining the respect and authority associated with law enforcement.

This incident raises critical questions about the balance between respecting professional identity and ensuring that legal proceedings are conducted without undue influence or bias. It begs the question of whether the same demand would have been made of individuals from other professions or societal standings, thus challenging the perceived impartiality of the legal process.

### Legal Proceedings and Societal Perceptions

The fairness of the magistrate’s decision also needs to be analyzed in the context of societal perceptions of law enforcement officers. In many jurisdictions, police officers are held to higher standards of conduct, both on and off duty. This expectation can lead to a heightened sense of scrutiny in their personal lives, which can sometimes manifest in legal settings. However, the principle of equality before the law dictates that individuals, regardless of their profession, should be treated with fairness and dignity in the courtroom.

Moreover, the public nature of the courtroom and the subsequent media coverage of such incidents have the potential to influence public perception of the individuals involved and the legal system more broadly. The handling of this case, particularly the spectacle created by ordering an officer to change attire, could contribute to a perception of the legal system as a space where personal vendettas are settled rather than justice being impartially administered.

The case of Chipo Mukwasi serves as a focal point for discussions about the intersections of personal dignity, professional identity, and legal fairness. The magistrate’s decision, whether intended or not, raises concerns about the potential for undue humiliation and the impact of such actions on the perceived impartiality of the legal system. As societies continue to grapple with the complexities of balancing respect for individual and professional identities within legal frameworks, incidents like these underscore the need for continual reflection on and reassessment of the principles that underlie our legal and judicial processes.

A Special Tribute To Mudhara Wazadza

13 March 2024

Citizens in Zaka South Ward 21 were greatly shocked by the sad news of the passing on of President Nelson Chamisa’s top fanatic, Mr. Enias Manyatera who was popularly known as Mdhara Wazadza.

Since the inception of the organic opposition politics pioneered by the pragmatic late icon of democracy, Dr. Morgan Richard Tsvangirai, Manyatera has been actively participating in the national discourse.

The late senior cadre was known for his sound prayers at the commencement of our rallies and meetings.

He was a man of varlour, mettle, and nerve because it was not easy at his advanced age to openly oppose tyrants in ZANU-PF residing in dangerous areas like Chitiyo.

Mr. Manyatera shall be missed by all progressive citizens home and abroad. He remains a paragon of virtue and fortified source of inspiration.

Ward 21 has lost a dedicated and energetic old cadre. May you rest in power our father and source of political wisdom.

Since solidarity is a core value of social democracy, all roads should lead to Zaka Chitiyo.

It is not about party positions but the role that one plays in the national democratic revolution.

Mdhara Wazadza is going to be remembered for his consistency in supporting the democratic project from the late Tsvangirai to the predecessor, Advocate Nelson Chamisa.

Let’s flood Chitiyo tonight and tomorrow in respect of our committed cadre. He was being commented for his sacrifice when he decided to sleep at Chitiyo Primary polling station guarding the residue.

The dedication exhibited by the late Manyatera should inspire us to focus on the real struggle not trinkets and perks.

The old man risked everything in support of the democratic alternative. He was vulnerable to any abuse by ZANU-PF morons but did not hesitate to the Harare regime his middle finger. Sleep well Mdhara Wazadza, you fought a good fight. You inspired us! We shall continue with the struggle until victory.

Mnangagwa Okys Starlink

By Business Reporter- The Government, through the Postal and Telecommunication Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ), said they do not intend to block Starlink’s use.

The Network regulator said that Starlink had expressed interest in operating in Zimbabwe and was provided with all the relevant information to apply.

The state media reported POTRAZ director general Gift Machengete as saying the authority has no intention to block Starlink in any way despite it currently being unlicensed to provide services in Zimbabwe. Said Machengete:

They have expressed interest in offering services in Zimbabwe and have been provided with all the relevant information for them to apply. They have not yet done so.

This means that their service offering in Zimbabwe is illegal because for as long as they remain without a licence.

Some reports claim that the Government wants Starlink to operate in the country through middlemen, a requirement the internet provider reportedly rejected.

Last month, Machengete warned companies illegally advertising and distributing internet services and gadgets from Starlink, which is not licenced to operate in Zimbabwe, that they will be prosecuted.

In February, a Guruve-based Chinese mining company, San He, was fined US$700 by a Bindura magistrate, and early this month, Zambezi Boutique Private Limited, a Victoria Falls-based company, was fined US$500 for unauthorised use of Starlink internet services.

Starlink is currently available in several African countries, including Nigeria, Mozambique, Zambia, Kenya, and Malawi.

Starlink offers several advantages that include high download and upload speeds, availability and reliability in remote areas, weather resilience, unlimited data usage, and portability, among others.

Rest In Power Senior Cadre Mudhara Wazadza

Wicknell Chivayo Faces Backlash for Mocking Madzibaba Nicholas Zakaria Over Vehicle Skit

By A Correspondent

The power of social media to amplify both admiration and criticism has once again come to the forefront, with controversial businessman Wicknell Chivayo finding himself under fire for his recent comments directed at popular musician Madzibaba Nicholas Zakaria.

The incident in question revolves around a vehicle skit featuring Zakaria, where he humorously complains about his car troubles.

However, Chivayo’s response to the skit has sparked controversy and drawn widespread condemnation.

In a Facebook post, Chivayo appeared to mock Zakaria, suggesting that the musician was indirectly soliciting a motor vehicle from him.

The post, laden with sarcasm, implied that Zakaria’s comedic portrayal of car problems was a veiled request for assistance from Chivayo, who is known for his extravagant purchases of vehicles for musicians and public figures.

Chivayo’s remarks, however, have been met with swift backlash from social media users and fans of Madzibaba Nicholas Zakaria.

Many have accused Chivayo of insensitivity and arrogance, arguing that his response was disrespectful to Zakaria and lacked empathy for the challenges faced by ordinary individuals.

Critics have pointed out that Chivayo’s flaunting of his wealth and influence, coupled with his dismissive attitude towards Zakaria’s skit, reflects a broader culture of entitlement and elitism.

The implication that Zakaria should be grateful for any potential assistance from Chivayo has struck a nerve among those who believe in the importance of humility and respect for others, regardless of their social status.

Moreover, Chivayo’s assertion that he owes nothing to anyone and can do as he pleases with his wealth has only served to fuel the controversy.

Some have interpreted his comments as a display of arrogance and a lack of accountability, particularly in light of his past legal and financial troubles.

In response to the backlash, supporters of Madzibaba Nicholas Zakaria have rallied behind the musician, praising his talent and contributions to Zimbabwean culture.

Many have condemned Chivayo’s behavior as unbecoming of a public figure and have called for greater sensitivity and responsibility in the use of social media.

As the controversy continues to unfold, it serves as a reminder of the power dynamics at play in Zimbabwean society and the importance of holding individuals in positions of influence accountable for their words and actions. While social media platforms provide a platform for expression and engagement, they also carry the responsibility of promoting positive discourse and respectful interaction among users.

In the end, the incident involving Wicknell Chivayo and Madzibaba Nicholas Zakaria serves as a cautionary tale about the potential pitfalls of online communication and the need for empathy, humility, and mutual respect in our interactions with others, both online and offline.

Outrage As Zanu PF, Chivhayo Pampers Convicted Murewa Rapist

By A Correspondent| In a shocking turn of events, Zanu PF, the ruling party in Zimbabwe, is facing severe criticism for rewarding a convicted child rapist, Bobby Makaza, with extravagant gifts.

The controversy deepened when it was revealed that prominent businessman Sir Wicknell Chivayo had gifted Makaza a vehicle.

Makaza’s heinous crime shook the nation in 2018 when he was found guilty of raping a 10-year-old child. Despite being sentenced to 18 years in prison, Makaza’s punishment was drastically reduced after President Mnangagwa granted him a pardon, allowing him to serve only three years of his sentence.

Adding fuel to the fire, Zanu PF, during a presidential rally in Mutawatawa, Mashonaland East province in 2023, presented Makaza with a house and a significant sum of cash.

The gesture has sparked outrage among Zimbabweans, with many questioning the ethics and morality behind rewarding a convicted rapist.

Critics argue that such actions not only undermine the severity of Makaza’s crime but also send a dangerous message to society, potentially normalizing sexual violence and perpetuating a culture of impunity.

Furthermore, Sir Wicknell Chivayo’s involvement in gifting Makaza a vehicle has drawn scrutiny, with some questioning the ethical implications of supporting a convicted criminal in such a manner.

UK Targets Foreign Students After Down-Grading Some University Of Zambia Degrees

London- The UK government has announced its intention to revise the international students’ visa because what it said is meant to close the loopholes of the potential abuse of the visa by foreign students.

This move came a few days after the same government downgraded the University of Zambia graduates’ degrees for the High Potential Individuals (HPI) visa due to the perceived inferiority of their degrees.

The HPI visa is designed to attract “highly skilled graduates” from international universities outside of the UK to contribute to a range of sectors, such as science and technology.

The Guardian Wednesday reported that UK Home Secretary James Cleverly said international students may be “undermining the integrity and quality of the UK higher education system” by using university courses as a cheap way of getting work visas.

In a letter to the Migration Advisory Committee (MAC), Cleverly asked the body to investigate whether the graduate visa entitlement – allowing international students to work for two or three years after graduating – was failing to attract “the brightest and the best” to the UK.

However, university leaders fear that cutting or restricting the graduate visa route will lead to a drastic fall in international recruitment and provoke a financial crisis for universities that rely on income from international tuition fees.

Cleverly told the MAC that while the government was committed to attracting “talented students from around the world to study in the UK”, it also wanted “to ensure the graduate route is not being abused. In particular, that some of the demand for study visas is not being driven more by a desire for immigration”.

Cleverly said: “An international student can spend relatively little on fees for a one-year course and gain access to two years with no job requirement on the graduate route, followed by four years’ access to a discounted salary threshold on the skilled worker route.

“This means international graduates are able to access the UK labour market with salaries significantly below the requirement imposed on the majority of migrant skilled workers.”

The home secretary instructed the committee, which gives independent advice to the government, to investigate “any evidence of abuse” of the graduate route, “including the route not being fit for purpose”, and to look at which universities were producing graduates who used the route.

He also asked the MAC to analyse “whether the graduate route is undermining the integrity and quality of the UK higher education system, including understanding how the graduate route is or is not, effectively controlling for the quality of international students, such that it is genuinely supporting the UK to attract and retain the brightest and the best, contributing to economic growth and benefiting British higher education”.

Rachel Hewitt, the chief executive of the MillionPlus group of universities, said the government’s review appeared to be deliberately aimed at undermining the success of British higher education.

“It is impossible to imagine the government going out of its way to make Britain less inviting to investment in almost any other sector – and yet every negative headline and policy reform makes Britain less attractive to international students,” Hewitt said.

“The graduate route is a key component of the offer that UK universities can make to international applicants, and its value should be recognised and not eroded.”

Jamie Arrowsmith, the director of Universities UK International, said universities were “deeply concerned” by the short notice given by Cleverly.

“Post-study work matters for many international students, allowing those who have invested in our country the opportunity to find work and contribute to the UK economy,” said Arrowsmith.

“Having publicly recommitted to the graduate route on its current terms in May 2023, any further changes would be extremely damaging to our reputation as a welcoming destination for international students, and risks undermining a UK success story that generates more than £20bn a year in export earnings for the economy.”

Cleverly said “early data” showed that just 23% of international students using the skilled workers route moved into graduate-level jobs, and that last year only a third moved into jobs paying more than £26,000 a year.

The committee is expected to report back in May, and its findings could come at a difficult time for the higher education sector. So far this year, enrolments from overseas have fallen by 40% compared with 2023.

Vanessa Wilson, chief executive of the University Alliance group, said: “It is important that international students have the opportunity to study at the full range of UK universities so they can select the option that is right for them, and so that all UK students and regions can benefit from their contributions.”

Tropical Storm Filipo Causes Havoc in Mozambique | ARE YOU SAFE?

By Farai D Hove | ZimEye | Maputo, Mozambique – In the early hours of March 12, Tropical Storm Filipo made a devastating landfall in Mozambique, directly hitting the Inhassoro City area in the northern part of Inhambane Province. With fierce maximum sustained winds reaching up to 116 km/h, the storm unleashed its fury on the region, impacting thousands and causing significant damage to infrastructure.

Mozambique’s National Institute for Disaster Management and Reduction (INGD) has been at the forefront, responding to the aftermath of Filipo’s rage. Initial reports from the INGD confirm that approximately 2,780 individuals have been directly affected by the storm, with seven reported injuries in the districts of Vilankulo and Morrumbene. The structural toll includes 12 houses obliterated and over 510 houses, alongside 14 health centres and 6 schools, sustaining damage.

Gaza Province also felt Filipo’s touch, albeit with minor damages, as assessments continue to determine the full extent of the impact. To support those displaced or adversely affected, authorities have set up three accommodation centres, currently sheltering 43 individuals.

Filipo, showing no signs of weakening, is predicted to journey across the southern Indian Ocean, veering off the coastlines of southern Mozambique and northern South Africa from March 13 to 15. Meteorologists anticipate it will intensify into a tropical cyclone, boasting maximum sustained winds of 135 km/h.

The coming 48 hours spell an anxious period for the region, with forecasts predicting heavy rainfall, strong winds, and storm surges. These adverse weather conditions are expected to affect Gaza and Maputo provinces in Mozambique, the entirety of Eswatini, and parts of northeastern South Africa.

Authorities and disaster management teams urge the public to stay informed, adhere to safety guidelines, and prepare for the expected conditions. The INGD, alongside local and international partners, is mobilizing resources and support to mitigate the storm’s impact and aid in the recovery of the affected communities.

As Tropical Storm Filipo continues its path, updates will be provided to keep the public informed and prepared for any developments.- ZimEye

Tilapia, particularly the Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus), stands out as a prime choice for fish farming due to its rapid growth rate and versatility in various environments.

Aspiring fish farmers aiming to dive into aquaculture can benefit from understanding the nuances of tilapia farming.

Here are some key insights and tips to optimize tilapia fish production:

  1. Tilapia: The Broiler of Fish Farming

Tilapia, often referred to as the “broiler” of fish farming, offers a compelling proposition due to its rapid growth under favorable conditions.

This characteristic makes it an attractive choice for those seeking a quick turnaround in their fish farming endeavors.

  1. Ideal Habitat: Ponds for VersatilityOne of the remarkable features of tilapia farming is its adaptability to various environments, particularly pond cultivation. By utilizing ponds, farmers can efficiently manage and control the fish’s habitat, facilitating optimal growth conditions.
  2. Dual Purpose: Pot and BreedingTilapia serves a dual purpose, making it an economically sound investment.

Whether intended for consumption or breeding, tilapia offers flexibility to farmers, allowing them to cater to diverse market demands.

  1. Economical Feeding Options

A significant advantage of tilapia farming is the availability of cost-effective feeding options.

Farmers can utilize cheap feed formulations, including home-produced alternatives, without compromising the growth rate of the fish.

This affordability contributes to the overall profitability of tilapia farming operations.

  1. Market Potential:

Ready DemandThe demand for tilapia remains robust, with companies actively seeking a consistent supply of this popular fish species.

With some companies expressing interest in substantial quantities, such as 10,000 kilograms per week, tilapia farmers stand to capitalize on this ready market.

  1. Harvesting Cycle and Timeline

Armed Cops Round-Up, Arrest Notorious Apostolic Cult Leader

By Crime and Courts Reporter- Heavily armed police details have raided and arrested Madzibaba Ishmael Chokurongerwa at his farm in Nyabira.

Armed with guns, tear smoke and accompanied by sniffer dogs, the police staged a spectacular in the early hours of Tuesday and arrested the cult leader.

The police officers raided the compound, which housed more than 1 000 people, and has been described as a cult where the majority of the people are being abused.

The residents of the compound were awakened at around 4am.

They led the police officers to Madzibaba Ishmael’s shrine where they were interviewed about concerns that have been raised about the captivity at the compound.

Those who live at the compound describe it as their Promised Land.

The police officers were accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing, Nyabira Rural District Council, Registrar General’s Office and the Department of Social Welfare.

The scores of children at the compound were put into different groups according to their ages.

Virtually all the children said they did not have birth certificates and did not go to school because they were not allowed to do so.

It quickly became clear that the children have been indoctrinated to live a life which is different from the one lived by millions of children around the country.

Health, Victim Friendly Unit and Social Welfare officials took their time to interview different women and children about allegations of abuse at the compound and all of them said they were not aware of such abuse and they have never been subjected to any form of abuse.

Most of Madzibaba Ishmael’s followers dismissed concerns that they were living in captivity and said they were there out of their own free will as followers of Madzibaba Ishmael.

Their leader is a an ex-convict.

Madzibaba Ishmael assured police officers of their peace at the shrine and pleaded with them to put their guns down for the children’s sake.

“We do not attack people as reported by people who are fighting us,” said Madzibaba Ishmael, who has run into trouble in the past for attacking police officers.

“Our children, as well as our wives, are not comfortable seeing people holding guns.

Musatye zvenyu nezvakaitika gore riya kuBudiriro.

“Our angels are the ones who fought some of your officers, it was not us.

“We preach peace here and we are a peaceful church.

“We want to slaughter a cow so that you eat while viewing our projects being carried out by our men for a living,” said Madzibaba Ishmael.

The team was led to a cemetery where shallow graves were dug around an anthill.

Madzibaba Ishmael said he was not aware of women’s and children’s rights.

He was taken to Nyabira Police Station and later to Norton Police Station where he was detained together with four other members of his church.

Tshabangu Calls Self Zim Political Messiah

By A Correspondent

In the ever-evolving political arena of Zimbabwe, a new figure has emerged, stirring both curiosity and controversy.

Sengezo Tshabangu, the controversial interim Secretary General of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), has boldly declared his intention to oust the ruling Zanu PF party from power.

Despite skepticism and accusations of being a Zanu PF proxy, Tshabangu remains resolute in his mission to “lead Zimbabwe into a new era.”

Tshabangu’s declaration comes at a time when Zimbabweans are yearning for change. Decades of political turmoil, economic instability, and allegations of corruption have left many disillusioned with the status quo.

As the leader of a nascent political movement, Tshabangu aims to capitalize on this sentiment and rally support for his cause.

In his recent statement, Tshabangu exuded confidence, proclaiming, “They’ve all failed to remove Zanu PF from power but I will. Watch this space. I’ll make bold maneuvers that will shock many. Zimbabwe is set for a fresh start. Trust the process.”

These words reflect Tshabangu’s determination and belief in his ability to effect real change.

However, his assertions have been met with skepticism from various quarters. Critics have raised doubts about his true intentions, questioning whether he is indeed a genuine opposition voice or merely a pawn in a larger political game.

Despite the doubts surrounding his allegiance, Tshabangu remains undeterred.

He sees himself as a catalyst for transformation, a beacon of hope for Zimbabweans weary of the status quo.

However, Tshabangu’s path to success is fraught with challenges.

The entrenched power structures of Zanu PF, coupled with the government’s history of crackdowns on dissent, pose formidable obstacles to any opposition movement.

I Have What It Takes To Remove Zanu PF : Tshabangu

Moreover, internal divisions within the opposition camp itself could undermine Tshabangu’s efforts to present a united front against the ruling party.Yet, amidst the challenges, there is also opportunity.

Chamisa Mourns ‘Mudhara Wazadza’

Former Citizens Coalition for Change leader Nelson Chamisa has mourned his number one supporter Nhamo Enias Manyatera who coined the popular slogan Wazadza saying his passing on is a huge subtraction to the movement.

Posting on X, formerly Twitter, Chamisa said Manyatera was an embodiment and testament that “seniority in the struggle is by contribution not title or position.”

“A BLOW TO THE CITIZENS PROJECT…The passing of Mr. Manyatera ‘Wazadza’ is a huge subtraction to #CitizenPower. He was a true citizen leader, changing our political landscape in remarkable and organic ways.

“His contribution is testament to the power of CITIZENOCRACY, that citizen philosophy and signifies the importance of every voice as we journey towards a new Great Zimbabwe. Mr ‘Wazadza’ is the evidence that seniority in the struggle is by contribution and not position or title.

“He embodied the belief that every citizens voice, regardless of age or social standing, holds significance as we journey towards a new Great Zimbabwe. Even in death, he will continue to inspire citizens especially the young to contribute towards the building of a great nation path. He reminds us that ordinary citizens can achieve extraordinary feats in the quest to build a New Great Zimbabwe. He serves as proof that the people’s struggle is driven from the base and by the grassroots.”

Ex-ZBC Boss In Hot Soup

By Showbiz Reporter- The fired Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) chief executive Adelaide Chikunguru is facing legal action from her former employer for shouting them on social media.

ZBC board said it would sue Chikunguru if she did not file a complaint in the courts of law formally.

This comes on the back of persistent social media posts by Ms Chikunguru following her resignation from the State broadcaster on March 1, in which she is accusing the board of breaching her contract among other issues.

In a statement yesterday, the ZBC board gave Ms Chikunguru 48 hours to execute her threats of seeking legal justice, failure of which, it would seek a High Court decree for perpetual silence.

“The board advises Ms Chikunguru to pursue her claims, if any, through the due process of the law and notes her continued suggestion that her lawyers have been briefed.

“The board publicly states that there is no substance in the allegations against the board and the corporation. To this end, the board invites her to execute her threats of resort to law against the corporation within the next 48 hours.
“In the event that she does not do so, the board reserves the right to approach the High Court for a decree of perpetual silence calling upon her to bring the threatened legal action or forever keep her peace.
“This decision is necessary to protect the continuing harm to the corporation’s interests and those of its stakeholders,” the board said.

Chikunguru was suspended on February 28 to pave way for investigations into allegations that were levelled against her.

However, she resigned before the commencement of the investigation, which the board has maintained would have been independent and impartial.

However, Chikunguru has made allegations on social media suggesting that the charges were trumped up in pursuit of a personal and politicised agenda by certain named individuals.

Elon Musk Proves Too Powerful For Mnangagwa Administration

By A Correspondent| Zimbabwean authorities have accepted they have no capacity to stop the use of Starlink devices in the country and have thus started engaging with the US based company.

Despite previous reluctance to licence Starlink due to security concerns, it’s been revealed that talks between government representatives and Starlink officials are currently underway.

Sources close to the developments indicate that the government is now actively pursuing a partnership with Starlink, although details remain confidential.

Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services Minister Tatenda Mavetera hinted at forthcoming developments, urging patience before commenting further on the matter.

This apparent shift in Zimbabwe’s approach towards Starlink comes in the wake of increasing adoption of the service within the country.

Recent incidents, including the dismissal of former Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation CEO Adelaide Chikurungu for allegedly acquiring a Starlink internet kit, underscore the growing demand for reliable connectivity solutions.

The Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation, facing connectivity challenges in rural areas, previously relied on other internet services but failed to meet contractual obligations, leading to disruptions in service.

Subsequently, the broadcaster turned to Starlink as a temporary solution.

Despite not holding an operating license, Starlink’s presence in Zimbabwe has triggered legal actions against users. Both a Chinese mining company and a Victoria Falls-based company were fined for unauthorized use of Starlink equipment, highlighting the regulatory hurdles faced by the service provider.

Zimbabwe Decides To Allow Starlink But Demands CIO Spy Microchips Inserted In Advance

By Farai D Hove | Bowing to public pressure, the government of Zimbabwe has internally decided to allow the sale of Starlink devices in Zimbabwe but at the back of the US company taking on its survellience demands.

slpy microchip proposal

Zimbabwe is now demanding saying for the final permission to go through, the company must allow the planting of microchips inside the devices that it hopes will help the state security monitor traffic, in what leaves to be seen if the model will work seeing that big nations like US and Russia have no way of controlling Starlink.

The proposal  is so that all traffic into the country is monitored by the Central Intelligence Organisation, CIO and its sister company, Potraz (Postal And Telecommunication Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe.

The planting of surveillance microchips in digital devices presents a stark violation of international privacy laws and ethical norms. This practice would represent a grave intrusion into individuals’ privacy, shaking the very foundation of trust between consumers, technology companies, and governments.International privacy laws, such as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in the European Union, set strict limits on the collection and processing of personal data. These laws are built on the principle that privacy is a fundamental human right.

The clandestine insertion of surveillance microchips into digital devices would not only breach these regulations but also erode public trust in technology, leading to a chilling effect on freedom of expression and thought.

Surveillance of this nature raises the specter of a society where every action, every word, even every thought, is monitored and analyzed by unseen forces. Such practices harken back to the warnings of George Orwell’s “1984”, where surveillance is used as a tool for control and suppression of dissent.

The repercussions could be widespread, from stifling innovation and economic growth to violating the sanctity of personal and professional communications.

Moreover, this form of surveillance undermines the principles of democracy and human rights. It could be leveraged to target political opponents, activists, journalists, and minority groups, threatening the very fabric of democratic societies.

The international community has recognized the importance of safeguarding privacy in the digital age, as evidenced by the United Nations’ resolution on the right to privacy in the digital age, which underscores the need for protection against arbitrary surveillance.

The technical aspects of planting surveillance microchips in devices also present significant security risks. Such vulnerabilities could be exploited by malicious actors, leading to unprecedented levels of cyber espionage and crime.

The economic implications are vast, potentially costing industries billions in lost revenue and damages, not to mention the erosion of consumer confidence in digital technologies.

The imaginary proposed model reads as follows:

The Government of Zimbabwe (GOZ) recognises the increasing importance of secure and reliable internet access for its citizens and businesses. In line with this vision, the GOZ is excited to announce a public-private partnership designed to leverage cutting-edge satellite internet technology while ensuring national security.

Project Partners

Government of Zimbabwe (GOZ)
Ministry of Information And Communications Technology (MICT)

Potraz (Postal And Telecommunication Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe)
Starlink, a subsidiary of SpaceX.

Starlink: Gains access to the lucrative Zimbabwean market, offering its high-speed, low-latency internet services to a population eager for connectivity.
GOZ: Provides its citizens with improved internet access, fosters economic growth, and strengthens national security.
National Security Measures

To safeguard national security interests, Project Ilizwe will incorporate the following measures:

Data Centre Location: All data transmitted through Starlink within Zimbabwe will be routed through a secure data centre located within the country’s borders. This ensures local control over data storage and management.

Data Encryption: Starlink, in collaboration with the CIO and Potraz, will implement a robust data encryption system that adheres to Zimbabwean regulations. This ensures that only authorized personnel have access to user data.
Limited Functionality: Starlink devices sold in Zimbabwe will have specific functionalities limited through a central control system. This mitigates potential security risks associated with unauthorized access or misuse.

Transparency and Oversight.

The GOZ acknowledges the importance of transparency and public trust. To this end:

A clear legal framework will be established to govern data collection, storage, and access procedures.

An independent body will be formed to oversee the implementation of Project Ilizwe and ensure compliance with regulations.

Regular audits will be conducted to guarantee the integrity of the system.

SA Bus Accident: Company License Suspended

In the wake of a tragic bus accident in South Africa, which claimed the lives of 15 Zimbabwean passengers, the operator’s license for Simlex bus company has been swiftly suspended. The incident occurred in the Western Cape Province when a Simlex cross-border bus collided with a haulage truck along the treacherous Hex River Pass, approximately 140 kilometers from Cape Town.

Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister Felix Mhona announced the suspension, declaring that Simlex’s operations would remain halted until the company achieves full compliance with all relevant regulatory and policy frameworks. Expressing condolences to the victims and their families, Minister Mhona emphasized the need for stringent safety measures to prevent such tragedies in the future.

“Our hearts go out to the families of those who lost their lives in this devastating accident. We extend our prayers to the survivors and the injured, wishing them a swift and full recovery,” stated Minister Mhona. “This tragic event serves as a stark reminder to all transport operators, motorists, and members of the public to prioritize adherence to road traffic rules and exercise utmost caution on the roads.”

The suspension directive, issued under the provisions of the Road Motor Transportation Act (Chapter 13:15), underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety of passengers and preventing further loss of life due to avoidable accidents. The Commissioner of Road Motor Transportation has been tasked with implementing the necessary measures to enforce compliance and enhance safety standards within the transportation sector.

As investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accident continue, authorities are urging vigilance and cooperation from all stakeholders to identify and address any lapses in safety protocols. The tragic incident serves as a sobering reminder of the critical importance of robust safety measures to protect the lives and well-being of passengers traveling on our roads.- state media

Election Mad UK Politicians Ban COS Families

UK Politicians Spark Outcry with Controversial Visa Restrictions

In a move that has sent shockwaves through communities and sparked fierce debate, the United Kingdom’s Home Office has implemented stringent visa rules, effectively barring overseas care workers and most overseas students from bringing their dependant family members to the country.

The measures, enacted on Monday, have drawn criticism for their perceived harshness and lack of compassion. The Home Office justified the decision by citing what they termed a “disproportionate” situation, pointing to the 120,000 dependants who accompanied 100,000 workers on the care visa route last year.

This sweeping policy change is poised to have significant ramifications, particularly for Zimbabweans already in the UK or planning to relocate with their families. Migration trends, reflective of an increasingly interconnected world, have been on the rise in recent years, making this move all the more impactful.

Home Secretary James Cleverly defended the decision, emphasizing that it aligns with the government’s agenda to curtail migration. He asserted that the 120,000 immigrants who entered the country last year would not meet the criteria under the new rules.

Furthermore, Minister for Social Care Helen Whately characterized the rules as promoting a “more ethical and sustainable approach.” However, critics argue that the restrictions are shortsighted and fail to account for the vital contributions made by care workers and students to the UK.

Adding to the upheaval, additional changes to visa requirements are on the horizon. Starting April 4, the minimum salary for those arriving on the Skilled Worker visa will skyrocket from £26,200 to £38,700, marking a staggering 48 percent increase. The minimum income requirement for family visas will also see a steep ascent, starting at £29,000 from April 11 and ultimately reaching £38,700 by next year.

Moreover, the decision to scrap the 20 percent salary discounts previously offered for shortage occupations further exacerbates the situation, leaving many questioning the government’s motives and priorities.

Amidst the outcry, there are indications that these measures could be temporary, with speculation rife that they may be reversed following this year’s elections. However, for now, the uncertainty looms large, casting a shadow over the future of immigration policy in the UK.-Agencies

Government Unwilling To Grant License To Starlink?

THE Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ) says satellite internet provider, Starlink, has not been granted a license to operate in the country.

Officials from the Ministry Information Communication Technology (ICT), Postal and Courier Services as well as POTRAZ, appeared before parliament to give oral evidence on data charges, network and access to internet services.

Cheza Supreme Court Appeal

Gweru-based entrepreneur and former CCC candidate for Chirumhanzu South, Patrick Cheza, has taken his case to the Supreme Court following a ruling by High Court Judge Justice Garainesu Mawadze permitting his eviction from S/D 43 Mahara Farm, situated near Mvuma. Cheza, among the 61 farmers settled at Mahara Farm, stands out as the sole individual targeted for eviction by the Minister of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water, and Rural Development, despite having invested a substantial sum of US$200,000 into the farm’s development.

Represented by his legal counsel, Nyasha Maguranyanga of Mutendi, Mudisi, and Shumba Legal Practitioners, Cheza contests the ruling on grounds of constitutional infringement. The appeal argues that Justice Mawadze’s decision to grant Cheza’s eviction was erroneous, asserting Cheza’s entitlement to consultation by the Ministry before any eviction proceedings.

The appeal document highlights the misconception made by the lower court in deeming Cheza ineligible for pre-eviction consultation, emphasizing Cheza’s legal right to be heard and consulted prior to any adverse actions taken against him.

In his pursuit for justice, Cheza seeks an order from the Supreme Court affirming his rightful ownership of the plot, while simultaneously restraining both the Ministry and any parties attempting to seize control of the farm.

Cheza’s investment in Mahara Farm is substantial and multifaceted, including the establishment of greenhouses, borehole installations, implementation of a solar power system, and the management of a diverse livestock portfolio comprising 105 cattle, 136 goats of a premium breed, and 56 sheep. Moreover, his operations support a workforce of 50 employees, whose livelihoods are intricately tied to the farm’s activities.- Agencies
