Man Nabbed Skinning Stolen Goat in Own Bedroom

By A Correspondent- A 37 year old Plumtree man is in trouble after he was caught skinning his grandfather’s goat in his bedroom hut.

The matter came to light at Plumtree magistrates courts last Thursday when Mbakisi Ncube appeared before magistrate Joshua Nembaware, facing stock theft charges.

He pleaded not guilty and was remanded in custody to August 29.

The court alleged on August 23, Themba Ncube (82) reported to have lost his goats.

His granddaughter, Shiela Ndlovu, and others embarked on a search and overheard the goat’s bleats inside Mbakisi’s room.

She peeped through the door and saw the accused trying to skin the goat.

They filed a police report leading to his arrest.

Arnold Mudekunye represented the state.

Zimbabwe’s Casino Industry Grows at 8.5%, as the Big Three Lead Further Growth in Africa

Zimbabwe’s largest industries seem to revolve around the natural beauty of Victoria Falls or the Mana Pools, but this is set to change in the near future. While tourism currently leads as Zimbabwe’s largest entertainment industry, the casino industry has experienced rapid growth in recent years. This is an expected result of infrastructure expansion in Zimbabwe, where physical and online casinos can operate profitably.

Zimbabwe’s Casino Industry

Zimbabwe’s gambling industry is experiencing a growth rate of 8.5%, with estimates getting as high as 12% when all of Africa is considered. Currently, the Regency Casino is the largest in the country, nestled in the luxurious Rainbow Towers Hotel in Harare. The five-star hotel caters to both citizens and tourists who venture to the capital, while the Regency Casino includes 12 table games and over 100 slot machines to keep guests entertained.

As it stands, the Regency Casino is the largest and most profitable casino in Zimbabwe, despite being smaller in stature when compared to other African establishments. However, Zimbabwe is quickly catching up to giants like Nigeria and South Africa, economically. There’s plenty of room for the Regency Casino to grow.

Yet most importantly, there are inspiring success stories closer to home, which indicate global fame is possible. For example, the Rio Casino Resort in South Africa is classified as one of the biggest casinos in the world, alongside iconic establishments like the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, United States. The Rio Casino Resort is renowned for offering around 260,000 square feet of gaming space and is also considered to be the largest casino on the continent. There are big shoes to fill, but any burgeoning casino franchise can shoot for the stars with keen motivation.

Of course, the Regency Casino is just one casino of many in Zimbabwe, with others including the Bulawayo Sun Casino and Kariba Lake’s Caribbea Bay Resort. Inside The Kingdom Hotel at Victoria Falls, there’s also the Makasa Sun Casino, which naturally receives a lot of attention from tourists.

Casinos are just one facet of a wider industry that’s growing in Zimbabwe and beyond. Increasing access to the internet, which will help all industries grow, will be instrumental in growing iGaming. Many land-based casinos offer online services and, as Zimbabwe enters this market, it can obtain more revenue for those casinos and the country at large.

The Big Three

The trend in Zimbabwe is one that is happening across Africa. It is spearheaded by the big three – South Africa, Nigeria, and Kenya. South Africa has always had strong economic power, which is now being turned to gambling and sports betting to the tune of $2.3 billion a year. It is also home to the largest casinos on the continent, many of them situated in the country’s North West province. The most well-known casino there is found at Sun City, a complex full of hotels, restaurants and other tourist attractions.

Nigeria is in a similar situation, taking in 7% of the entire continent’s revenue. However, with a population of 200 million against South Africa’s 60 million, Nigeria’s growth potential dwarfs everybody else’s. The Federal Palace Hotel in Lagos houses its largest casino and is right in the middle of Victoria Island, the city’s (and the country’s) foremost commercial district where corporate travellers are commonplace. Much like Zimbabwe, increasing internet penetration in Nigeria will propel its gambling industry even further.

Lastly, there’s Kenya, whose $300 million industry value has plummeted in recent years due to government missteps. Nairobi is filled with gambling facilities, the largest of which is the Casino Flamingo, which has established a yearly growth rate of around 7% despite setbacks. This is largely attributed to the expansion of online media, which should see Kenyan gambling recover losses.

Contributors to Growth

There are two strong contributors to Zimbabwe and Africa’s casino market growth. We touched on one above: infrastructure development plans. Better transport and road systems connecting Zimbabwe to its economically strong neighbours – South Africa and Botswana – enhance the country’s tourism industry, including casinos. Infrastructure also includes technology such as the Internet, allowing the establishment of online casinos that also invigorate the economy.

Secondly, Africa is a young continent, with much of our population being below 30. Generally, those younger people have better knowledge of technology and more openness to new forms of entertainment, which both combine to benefit industries like casinos.

Chissano Attends Zanu PF’s Shurugwi’s Star Rally

By A Correspondent- Former Mozambican president Joachim Chissano on Saturday attended President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s star rally in Midlands amid reports he would also attend opposition CCC leader Nelson Chamisa’s own rally in a bid to get a better perspective of Zimbabwe’s political landscape ahead of Wednesday’s elections.

Chissano is the special facilitator of for Zimbabwe’s debt and arrears clearance programme sponsored by the African Development Bank.

His duties involve working to end the country’s long-standing standoff with its creditors and the international community.

During a high-level conference on Zimbabwe’s bid to end its protracted debt crisis in May, Chissano told Mnangagwa the country’s major enemies included governance, rule of law, human rights, and freedom of expression.

Mozambique’s leader between 1986 and 2005 emphasized the importance of Mnangagwa’s administration leveling the playing field and implementing electoral reforms to ensure free and fair elections.

Opponents have accused the Zanu-PF led administration of failure to introduce election reforms recommended by SADC, the AU, and the Monthlante Commission, which probed the 2018 post-election protests and the resultant killing of civilians.

Presidential spokesperson George Charamba said through his social media handle that Chissano had requested to attend both Zanu-PF and CCC rallies in the spirit of ensuring Zimbabwe holds peaceful, free, and fair elections as a precursor to debt resolution.

“President of Mozambique, Cde Joachim Chissano is attending the Midlands Rally.

“As both an elder statesman and a champion on Zimbabwe Debt Resolution, the former President requested that he attends two rallies: one for Zanu-PF, another for Triple C.

“The Zimbabwean Govt acceded to the request,” said Charamba.

Chissano is expected to attend Chamisa’s penultimate Bulawayo rally on Sunday or the Harare one Monday.

Chamisa, according to poll pundits and physical support on the ground, is President Mnangagwa’s biggest opponent.

Creative Arts Industry Captured

The ruling Zanu-PF has intensified its capture of the creative arts industry, which plays a pivotal role of social commentary, by placing many artistes under the party wings.

This comes after President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s sons Sean and Emmerson Jnr hosted a lavish luncheon for a number of artistes that included Enzo Ishall, Holy Ten, Michael Maggz, Doc Vikela, Bhutisi, Poptain, Levelz, Fantan and many more.

However it was Ricky Fire’s attendance at the luncheon that shocked many considering that the dancehall chanter was recently singing against the Mnangagwa regime.

Ricky Fire used to tour Zimbabwe and performed at almost all Citizens for Coalition for Change rallies head of the March by-elections in 2022.

As if it was not enough, Ricky Fire went on to produce a song dubbed Kudya Yellow, which features the party’s leader Nelson Chamisa on the chorus.

Faceless characters threatened him with death if he continued supporting Chamisa.

The dancehall artiste took to his Facebook page to share a screenshot of messages threatening him after his association with Chamisa’s party from one user with the username Nyatsimba Mutota.

The message reads: “Cde, I’m giving you 24 hours to issue a press statement clarifying whether you are an artiste or a politician. And I want you to consider yourself warned!! Don’t try to deceive people hiding behind music whilst you are a sanctions beggar, the countdown has begun!!”

Speaking to the Standard Style following the threats, the artiste’s manager Jayden Mutopa said they won’t be threatened into silence.

“Apart from being a musician Ricky Fire is a citizen of this country who has a constitutional right to associate himself with a party of his choice. Yes he performed there because it was part of his mandate as an artiste and entertainer to do so, it’s his job to perform, even if Zanu-PF books him to perform we will go, it’s our job and we were only doing our job,” he said.

“About threats we are not worried as they came from ghost accounts and as citizens of Zimbabwe the law should protect us,” he said.

Holy Ten recently joined the bandwagon and publicly put his weight behind Mnangagwa in two separate videos that have since gone viral.

Today Holy Ten will be sharing the stage with Sandra Ndebele who is running for a council seat in Bulawayo under the ruling party ticket.

In pictures that have gone viral, the artistes are seen feasting with Mnangagwa’s sons.

The Mnangagwas are linked to Scarfemore Records, a record label that has been financing many urban artistes. Sources privy to the developments said the Mnangagwas, through Scarfemore Records, were the ones controlling day-to-day operations at Chillspot Records hence artistes from there are booked on events linked to Zanu-PF.

Scarfemore Records are reported to be funding Holy Ten’s lavish lifestyle, his music and his record label Samanyanga Sounds.

Fantan and Levels were in 2021 sentenced to six months in prison alongside Tinashe Chanachimwe popularly known as Boss Dhama for organising an unsanctioned super Covid-19 spreader musical concert on New Year’s Eve, in breach of government regulations.

They were later freed on $10,000 bail a High Court judge. It is reported that Scarfemore Records was instrumental in the release of the trio.

Music critics have argued that the capture of the arts industry by politicians has led to the dwindling of Zim dancehall, a genre which hogged the limelight with social commentary lyrics that spoke about the impoverishment of the Zimbabwean ghettos and also the crushing of the economy. However lyrics anchor on sex, drugs, and alcohol.

Last week, in a desperate bid to cleanse its image in the international arena, the Zimbabwean government sucked in South African celebrities under the guise of “appreciating the true Zimbabwean image”.

Pearl Thusi, Sello Maake ka Ncube and Sonia Mbele arrived in the country last week at the invitation of the Ministry of Information in very murky circumstances.

The South African trio were part of Mnangagwa plan to shrug off a bad reputation which is replete with human rights abuses, corruption and cronyism which have dogged his administration.

The South African celebrities were draped in Mnangagwa’s trademark scarf, endorsing the Zanu-PF leader.

The government-sponsored advertising campaign called “The True Zimbabwe Tour,” which also features journalists from a few Sadc countries, including Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Zambia, and Tanzania.

Thusi, who once stood firm with Zimbabweans during the #ZimbabweanLivesMatter in 2020, went on to claim that she didn’t know that her visit to Zimbabwe was going to be politicized following social media backlash.

In a social media video, Thusi said she did not know that the visit was a political gimmick.

Other entertainment stars who have been brought to Zimbabwe and met Mnangagwa are D’Banj, Floyd Mayweather, Davido, Koffie Olomide, DJ Tira among others.

The Nigerian music star D’Banj’s visit which was facilitated by Mnangagwa’s ally, the controversial church leader ‘Prophet’ Passion Java came at a time he was still being investigated over fraudulent activities back in Nigeria.

However, International star Burna Boy, who once endorsed the #ZimbabweanLivesMatter hashtag in 2020, refused to endorse Mnangagwa by wearing a Zanu-PF scarf in exchange of money when he came to Zimbabwe.

The Nigerian singer was in Harare last year for a performance at Belgravia Sports Club.

ZEC Deploys Polling Officers, Elections Material Nationally

By A Correspondent- The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) yesterday started deploying polling officers to different polling stations across the country ahead of Wednesday’s harmonised elections after they completed their training exercise.

Police have also said they will be equal to the task of ensuring peace prevail during and after the elections urging people to go home and resume their duties after voting.

The deployment of polling officers mainly drawn from the civil service is being done simultaneously with the distribution of ballot papers and other material needed during the election process.

The officers will man the 12 370 polling stations established countrywide.

ZEC chief elections officer Mr Utloile Silaigwana confirmed to Sunday News in an interview yesterday that all was set for the Wednesday harmonised elections saying the deployment would be done in a phased approach.

“The deployment of polling officers begins today (yesterday) soon after completing training but it is a process and is dependent on the size of the province. Some have already started deploying while others will commence deployment tomorrow (today). As they do so their election material also goes with them.

“We have taken it as a strategy that we deploy materials and officers to those provinces that are very far and wide in terms of their geographical distance. Provinces like Matebeleland North and Midlands and so on, we will be deploying in phases,” said Mr Silaigwana.

He said their last training also included political party election agents who they wanted to appreciate the polling processes adding that it was not mandatory for political parties to send their polling agents.

“Our training was also phased, we started with constituency election officers then followed with ward election officers. We then trained presiding officers and this last training we just completed was for polling officers where we also invited political parties’ election agents so that they appreciate the polling process. However, this was not a must, we just extended our invitation and some attended but others did not show up. Our aim is to ensure that all polling officers are at their respective stations by Monday,” said Mr Silaigwana.

He said in terms of the Electoral Act and for purposes of the 2023 elections, Minting and Printing Company of Zimbabwe (MPCZ) was given the mandate to print all ballot papers to be used.

He said a total of 7 126 600 presidential ballot papers have been printed.

“Seven million and ninety-eight thousand, seven hundred and fifty (7 098 750) National Assembly ballot papers and six million eight hundred and sixty-one thousand, six hundred and fifty (6 861 650) local authority ballot papers have been printed for the conduct of elections on the 23 August 2023,” he said.

He clarified that the number of ballot papers printed for each of the three elections was different because with respect to the National Assembly election an independent candidate for Gutu West Nation Assembly constituency passed away and the election would be conducted on a later date.

Reason Why Zanu Pf Hosted Star Rally in Shurugwi Revealed

Zanu-PF held its last star rally at Tongogara growth point in Shurugwi yesterday, which many believe was meant to pay homage to the party’s chief benefactor, controversial businessman Kudakwashe Tagwirei.

Apart from the rally, President Emmerson Mnangagwa also commissioned several projects in the area, which were spearheaded by Tagwirei. Tagwirei hails from Hankie, a stone’s throw away from the growth point, named after the late Zanla commander Josiah Magama Tongogara.

The Sakunda Holdings boss has been the chief benefactor of Mnangagwa’s rallies ahead of the elections slated for Wednesday with a member of the ruling party’s election fundraising committee claiming that the fuel magnate was pumping several thousands of dollars per week for the rallies.

The Zanu-PF fundraising committee is chaired by Phillip Chiyangwa and other members of the committee are Tafadzwa Musarara, Scott Sakupwanya, Zodwa Mkandla, Antony Pote and Everasto Mudhikwa.

Mnangagwa commissioned  the refurbished Tongogara Clinic, which was built by the Zimbabwe Defence Forces while Sakunda Holdings donated medical equipment worth US$400 000.

Sakunda Holdings also donated a brand new fully equipped ambulance for the clinic, drilled a borehole and offered a resident doctor whose salary for one year will be paid by Arundel Hospital.

Arundel Hospital, a state-of-the-art health facility in Harare, is also owned by Tagwirei.

Last year Tagwirei embarked on a multi-million road project that links Donga business centre (Chachacha and Lalapanzi in Chirumanzu district) to ease transport woes for villagers in Shurugwi North.

Part of the completed project — a 17km stretch from Chachacha to Tongogara growth point — was opened to the motoring public before Christmas last year.

Mnangagwa also commissioned part of the completed road, attributing the success to his administration.

Shurugwi district development coordinator Romeo Shangwa in an interview with this publication early this year confirmed that the road project was being funded by the Sakunda Holdings boss.

Tongogara growth point is one of the several rural service centres that were accorded growth point status by the government shortly after independence.

With the new status, villagers expected a boom in business and a better life, but that has not been the case.

Instead, the centre is slowly turning into a ghost settlement.

Similar growth points such as Mupandawana in Gutu, Murambinda in Buhera, Mutora (Nembudziya) in Gokwe North, Murewa, Jerera in Zaka, Mutoko and Gokwe are now fully-developed business centres with several amenities.

Despite Shurugwi being endowed with mineral resources, for the past three decades, no meaningful development has taken place at Tongogara, save for a high school, clinic and Grain Marketing Board depot, which receives sporadic supplies of grain and agricultural inputs.

Even development ventures like the Tongogara Community Share Ownership Scheme and later the Shurugwi Development Trust have failed to stimulate development in this mineral rich community.

Both ventures are fronted by Shurugwi traditional leaders — chiefs Banga, Ndanga and Nhema who work with local authorities and government.

“It is surprising that we wait for an individual to come and construct a road and a clinic when we have so many resources as a district,” said a villager.

However, a Zanu-PF fundraising committee member justified the party’s choice of Shurugwi as the last venue for the campaign.

“It was befitting for the last rally to be held in Mnangagwa’s Midlands Province and it was also poignant for Shurugwi in particular to host it because Tagwirei has been so generous, oiling the party from his pockets,” said the committee member.

Zanu-PF spokesperson Christopher Mutsvangwa confirmed that the party’s campaign was funded by local businessmen without mentioning Tagwirei’s name.

“Zanu-PF is a rich party, yes; we have successful businesspeople who have been sponsoring our rallies,” Mutsvangwa said.

“They are products of our successful Zanu-PF policies so they support where their bread is buttered.

“We have young people who are doing wonders in mining and others are producing tobacco in areas like Magunje.”

Witwatersrand University-based political analyst Romeo Chasara said Tagwirei’s close ties to the ruling elite and his alleged involvement in corrupt practices raised concerns about state capture in the country.

“Tagwirei’s significant influence over key sectors of the economy, such as fuel and agriculture, has allowed him to shape policy decisions and benefit from opaque procurement processes,” Chasara said.

“This level of control and influence undermines the principles of transparency, accountability, and fair competition, and hinders the country’s progress towards economic reform.”

The Sakunda boss has been criticised for his alleged involvement in corrupt practices, particularly in the fuel and agriculture sectors.

His company, Sakunda Holdings, has been accused of receiving preferential treatment in government contracts and benefiting from opaque procurement processes.

Tagwirei’s close relationship with influential political figures has raised suspicions of undue influence and cronyism.

Critics argue that his financial support to Zanu-PF comes with strings attached, among them shaping policy decisions.-standard

Trainee Cops Revenge Land Them in Soup

By A Correspondent- Nineteen trainee police officers who wantonly attacked members of the public on Friday evening are expected back in court tomorrow.

The police recruits allegedly sought revenge, attacking people in Harare’s Central Business District (CBD), after suspected touts attacked two of their colleagues.

The 19 initially appeared at Harare Magistrates’ Court yesterday, where the State successfully applied for a warrant for further detention.

Magistrate Mrs Yeukai Dzuda granted the application after investigating officers requested more time to have the 19 in custody, pending further investigations.

National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed that investigations are underway.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms that investigations are currently underway in connection with unruly conduct exhibited by some police recruits in Harare’s CBD on August 18, 2023, between 6.30pm and 7.30pm.

“Nineteen police recruits have been arrested and will face the due process of the law,” he said.

The Commissioner-General of Police does not condone violent behaviour by any police officer and assures the public of the professionalism of police as they interact with the people of Zimbabwe and visitors,” he said.

Assistant Commissioner Nyathi said police will reveal more details pertaining to the incident after investigations.

According to sources, the attack on the public came after two of the trainee police officers were attacked by suspected touts.

The two recruits then went back to the police camp and mobilised their fellow recruits.

They later returned to the CBD, where they started indiscriminately attacking members of the public.

“The recruits were on pay break, and they went into town where two of them were attacked by certain men,” said an anonymous source.

Zanu Pf Enlists Herdmen as Polling Agents

Zanu-PF is wantonly trashing the country’s supreme law, the Constitution, that prohibits traditional leaders from engaging in partisan politics after it enlisted five village headmen as its polling agents in Hurungwe, Mashonaland West province.

The headmen under scrutiny are namely; Takasvika Chishiri (Nyamahapi), Paul Brahim (Kasimure), Maki Kachamaedza (Dambanzara), Yeukai Mupanedengu and Special Brahim (Kamukombe).

Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) aspiring Hurungwe East parliamentarian, Blessing Mandava raised concern over the subtle rigging mechanism, which he has since flagged the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC).

“Rigging of elections is already underway and its coming in many forms. The appointment of headmen as polling agents is definitely rigging by Zanu-PF as that is how they are going to intimidate villagers claiming they will be watching them within polling stations,” said Mandava.

“I have raised a complaint with a Mrs Dube who is the ZEC Ward 6 elections officer, who only noted the issue and said she will forward it to the command centre.”

Contacted for comment by NewZimbabwe.com, ZEC Mashonaland West provincial elections officer, Austin Ndhlovu professed ignorance of any provision of the Electoral Act barring traditional leaders from performing duties as polling agents.

“There is nowhere explicitly written that traditional leaders cannot be this or that. I don’t have that at law that traditional leaders have their limitations in terms of electoral participation in electoral law, l will have consult further,” said Ndhlovu.

“What l don’t really know is whether headmen can be election agents, l don’t want to lie and l haven’t encountered that in law, but what l know they have electoral rights to vote for whoever they want.”

The provincial elections boss advised Mandava and other such aggrieved candidates to present cases at multi-party liaison committees at ward level and escalate issues to higher platforms if dissatisfied by outcomes.

Ndhlovu reiterated other laws might preclude headmen and Chiefs from political participation, and not explicitly the Electoral Act, which gives scope of his work.

Constitution of Zimbabwe section 281 and the Traditional Leaders’ Act section 45 and 46 outline what traditional leaders ought to do and ought not to do in respect of politics and elections.

However, traditional leaders often wantonly disregard laws, mostly with impunity.

In principle, traditional leaders must not be members of any political party or in any way participate in partisan

politics; act in a partisan manner; further the interests of any political party or cause; or violate the fundamental rights and freedoms of any person.

In May 2018, precedence was set when the Elections Resource Centre (ERC) successfully sued Chief Fortune Charumbira over unconstitutional utterances pledging support to Zanu-PF.

The court instructed him to retract the statement, an order he did not abide by. Instead, he has uttered more statements to the same effect with no consequence.

Prior, Masvingo High Court Judge, Garainesu Mawadze in 2015 made a ruling prohibiting traditional leaders from making political statements and declaring allegiance to any political party.

Pregnancy Maintenance for Harare Man

By A Correspondent- Harare man was last week ordered to pay maintenance for his unborn child.

A pregnant Judith Mahachi told Harare magistrate Ayanda Dhlamini that her estranged husband, William Kwashira, has been neglecting her.

They also have a two-year-old daughter.

“The respondent owns a company and is also a mechanic,” Mahachi said.

He has not been providing for us after I decided to end the marriage.

“I later found out that I am pregnant, but he has refused to help in any way.”

Mahachi demanded US$160 for her upkeep, but Kwashira said he could only afford US$30.

Kwashira was ordered to pay US$80 starting this month.

Zanu PF In Fierce Mnangagwa Succession Battle

By- Zanu PF is battling with factionalism coming from potential candidates to succeed President Emmerson Mnangagwa after Wednesday elections, a top researcher has said.

Mnangagwa, who took over from the late Robert Mugabe after a military coup six years ago, will be running for his second and final full term in office.
The 80-year-old ruler has relied heavily on a shadowy ‘non-governmental organisation’ known as Forever Associates Zimbabwe (FAZ) for his re-election campaign because of divisions in Zanu PF, which nearly cost him the 2018 elections.
FAZ, which is said to have links with the Central Intelligence Organisation, ran Zanu PF’s primary elections, where the majority of the sitting MPs fell by the wayside amid widespread reports of vote rigging.
Clionadh Raleigh, executive director of the Armed Conflict location and Event Data Project (ACLED) and a senior professor of political violence and geography in the School of Global Studies at the University of Sussex in the United Kingdom, said Mnangagwa’s succession was a potential powder keg.
In a paper titled: Political succession and intra-party divisions: Examining the potential of violence in Zimbabwe’s 2023 elections published on Friday, Raleigh said Mnangagwa’s age and the presidential term limits were an albatross on Zanu PF.
“As aforementioned, in Zimbabwe’s current political climate, there is a high level of economic and social malaise,” she wrote.
“These issues are mirrored in Zanu PF where many factions exist and fewer resources are being shared around and the churn of opportunities and positions is non-existent.
“But crucially: this is likely to be Mnangagwa’s last election, as he has reached 80 years. Who will come next?
“There are no more ‘original’ war veterans, and waiting in the wings are those whom Mnangagwa purged from the party and state (for example, Saviour Kasukuwere, a former Zanu PF heavyweight and leader of the late Mugabe-era faction ‘Generation 40’ who attempted to shoehorn Grace Mugabe into power).”
Kasukuwere was banned from running as an independent in Wednesnday’s election because he has been out of the country for more than 18 months.
Raleigh predicted that jostling for the top post in Zanu PF would be intense.
“The end of this reign is important because the jostling in Zanu-PF elite circles will be fierce and directed towards building loyalty for the presumed successor (whomever that may be),” she added.
“With any change in government, the Zanu PF political machine will be recalibrated. If that is happening too early (as in, during this election), then the outcome for the top of the Zanu PF hierarchy is in question.
“This is a present concern because if Zanu PF cannot depend on local party apparatchiks and local administrators to return the ‘right results’ and for the ‘right candidate’, then they risk losing this election.
“In a repeat of 2008, those at the Zanu PF centre will go to extreme lengths to hold onto power, and this leads to inflated risks to local administrators and voters living in ‘defecting’ areas.”
There have been reports that Vice President Constantino Chiwenga is angling for Mnangagwa’s post, but the former army commander has said he does not habour such ambitions.
Meanwhile, Mnangagwa yesterday told Zanu PF supporters at his last campaign rally before the elections in Shurugwi that he was confident of victory and had invited international observers because he has nothing to hide.
“We have nothing to hide,” he said.
“We have invited 45 countries, 17 regional and international bodies and all consulates to observe our elections.
“We also invited Southern African Development Community countries.”
A number of election observers arrived in the country last week.
The Commonwealth is also observing the elections for the second time since 2018.
Mnangagwa, however, told observers from foreign countries not to have a biased mind.
“Please do not come to become observers with foregone conclusions from your countries,” he said.
“We have open minds and we are a peaceful country.
“It is us and not any other organisation, which can come to teach us how to run peaceful elections.
“We are not doing this to please anybody. It is us who can run free and fair elections.”
The European Union Elections Observer Mission (EU EOM) yesterday castigated what it said were attempts to discredit its work after state-controlled media claimed it had bribed local journalists with whisky and groceries.
EU EOM chief observer Fabio Massimo Castaldo said the reports were “defamatory” and “unfounded”.
“The EU EOM has taken note of previous unacceptable attempts to discredit the mission. The EU EOM sees these articles as blatant disinformation of the Zimbabwean public,” Castaldo said.
“They reflect a continued effort to undermine the EU EOM and credible election observation.” Standard

Kwekwe Man Stabs Ex-lover, Friend

By A Correspondent- A Kwekwe man went berserk and stabbed his ex-lover who had turned down his offer to reconcile as well as his friend who tried to intervene.

The 23-year-old woman and the friend whose names were not supplied, are both battling for life at a hospital after being stabbed by Andrew Maphosa (20).

Midlands Police Spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident which occurred on 14 August 2023 around 7PM.

“Maphosa was in Mbizo 11 in the company of a friend when they met his ex-girlfriend. Maphosa tried to convince the woman that they rekindle their affair, which she turned down, resulting in a misunderstanding between the two,” said Inspector Mahoko.

Maphosa reportedly drew a knife and stabbed the ex-lover several times all over the body.

The male friend tried to intervene and he was also stabbed on the neck and fell unconscious.

Maphosa, who fled the scene, was later arrested and investigations are ongoing.

“Solar Panels, Boreholes Reflect Zim Prosperity”: Zanu Pf

By A Correspondent- Zanu PF heavyweight, Christopher Mutsvangwa, believes that the presence of solar panels and boreholes in rural areas demonstrates prosperity in Zimbabwe. He claims that President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government has actively pursued practical initiatives for prosperity.

In response to Blessed Mhlanga’s inquiry about the distribution of benefits from gold production, Mutsvangwa pointed out the visible signs of economic progress, such as young people building houses and investing in boreholes through their earnings from gold. He emphasized that denying this reality would be unjustifiable when evidence of prosperity, such as solar panels and improved living conditions, can be observed in rural areas. Watch the full interview here.

During the Heroes Day celebrations, Mhlanga stated that the majority of the population would dispute the extent of economic progress claimed by Mutsvangwa for Zimbabwe. He said:

Mutsvangwa responded by saying:

You just need to go and see solar panels in rural panels, you see houses being built by young people, you see they’re drilling boreholes because they’re making money. They are making money out of gold, why do you want to deny the reality?

Mhlanga alleged that the Gold Mafia, not the general population, benefits from gold production in Zimbabwe. In contrast, Mutsvangwa stated that the nation is making progress towards prosperity, honouring the aspirations of fallen heroes. He encouraged both local and foreign investors to consider opportunities in lithium, platinum, and gold. Mutsvangwa denied reports of starvation, emphasizing that Zimbabwe is exploring possibilities to export grain to other nations.
Mutsvangwa also said Gold Mafia was a creation of those offended by Zimbabwe’s ability to stabilise the macroeconomy and the local currency.

Police Recruits Arrested For Public Violence

By- The police have arrested nineteen trainee police officers for attacking members of the public.

The nineteen caused public violence on Friday evening and are expected back in court tomorrow.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms that investigations are currently underway in connection with unruly conduct exhibited by some police recruits in Harare’s CBD on August 18, 2023, between 6.30pm and 7.30pm.
“Nineteen police recruits have been arrested and will face the due process of the law,” he said.
“The Commissioner-General of Police does not condone violent behaviour by any police officer and assures the public of the professionalism of police as they interact with the people of Zimbabwe and visitors,” he said.

HARARE, 20 August 2023 – The European Union Election Observation Mission (EU EOM) to the Republic of Zimbabwe deployed today 44 long-term observers (STOs) across the country. The group is the third contingent, following the core team and 46 long-term observers, which have arrived in Zimbabwe earlier in July.

“The short-term observers will cover all ten provinces in both, urban and rural areas. Together with the other EU EOM observers they will be the eyes and the ears of the mission on election day during polling, counting and collation of results. They will also pay attention to the election environment”, said Chief Observer Fabio Massimo Castaldo.

Prior to their deployment, the short-term observers received a two-day in depth briefing in Harare on the electoral background, voting procedures, the political environment, code of conduct and other topics.

For election day the EU EOM will be reinforced by a Delegation of the European Parliament and diplomats accredited to Zimbabwe. In total, the EU EOM will comprise about 150 observers from all 27 member states, as well as Canada, Norway and Switzerland.

“EU observers will be visiting many polling stations from the opening to the closing of the polls and follow also the collation of results. They will however not interfere in the process. They are here to observe and not to supervise”, said Mr. Castaldo, adding: “Although election day is an important element of our observation, the EU EOM is in Zimbabwe to assess all aspects of the elections over the entire duration of the process allowing for an impartial assessment of the entire election process.”

Chief Observer Castaldo will present the initial findings and conclusions of the mission two days after the elections. The EU EOM will remain in Zimbabwe to observe also the post electoral environment and follow possible appeals and complaints. A final report, with recommendations for future elections, will be published some two months after election day.

EU Election Observation Mission astounded by
claims of interference and improper conduct

HARARE, 19 August 2023 – EU Election Observation Mission Chief Observer Fabio
Massimo Castaldo has arrived in Zimbabwe this morning to continue his observation
of the electoral process of the 23 August elections in person.
Upon his arrival he stated: “The EU Election Observation Mission (EU EOM) is

in local Zimbabwean media yesterday. These allegations are based on
unsubstantiated rumors and entirely fabricated.”
Chief Observer Castaldo stressed: “The EU EOM and its observers do not engage in
inappropriate activities, nor does the EU EOM interfere in the process. The EU EOM
adheres to a strict code of conduct.”

observation”, said Chief Observer Castaldo.
The EU EOM was invited by the government of Zimbabwe to conduct a
comprehensive, independent, impartial assessment of the electoral process.

ED Warns Observers

By A Correspondent- Foreign election observer missions should be open-minded and must not come with predetermined conclusions to discredit Wednesday’s polls, President Mnangagwa has said.

He said this yesterday while addressing tens of thousands of ZANU PF supporters at the ruling party’s final provincial star rally at the Tongogara Business Centre, Shurugwi, in his home province of Midlands.

“We have invited observer groups from SADC, from the continent and from beyond,” he said.

As I have said to all the observer missions, please do not come to observe us with foregone conclusions from your homes or your countries. Come with an open mind. We are a peaceful people.

“I am happy that all our political parties that are contesting in the current election have adhered to peaceful electoral processes.

“I am happy that so far, almost everybody has promised no violence; this is what it should be.

“However, we, as the ZANU PF party, are at the forefront of preaching peace and condemning violence. We say no to any form of violence. We say no to any hate speech; we are children of one family.”

Observers, he said, should stick to their mandate and not abuse their privileges.

“We have nothing to hide,” he continued.

“We have invited 45 countries, 17 continental regional bodies, as well as all embassies and consulates.

“In particular, we have invited every single member of our SADC body; they are our sisters and brothers; whatever we do, we share.

We have a similar history. We were all colonised and we fought for our independence and democracy.

“We welcome these election observer missions to our great country. They must enjoy our hospitality; our people are very kind. I call upon the observer missions to keep to their terms of reference in the code of conduct of their work, because Zimbabwe remains a sovereign country.”

No one, said the President, was qualified to lecture ZANU PF about democracy, because the party fought for 16 years to bring democracy, independence, freedom and sovereignty to Zimbabwe.

“We are entrenching democracy, constitutionalism, good governance and human rights,” he said.

“I want to make this clear: No one is qualified to teach us democracy. We were never given our democracy, our freedom on a silver platter.

“We spent 16 solid years of armed struggle . . . an armed struggle for us to become independent.

“So, we were fighting for freedom and independence.

“So, no one should assume any role to teach us democracy, because we fought for it and acquired it ourselves.”

Despite illegal sanctions imposed on the country by the West, said President Mnangagwa, Zimbabwe continues to forge ahead to fulfil its developmental aspirations.

“For the last three years, our economy has been growing at a rate above 5 percent.

“We are one of the fastest-growing economies in our region.”

He urged the people to shame those wishing for violence in this year’s polls.

“Let us shame them by being peaceful; let us shame them by being non-violent.

The President paid special tribute to former Mozambique President Joaquim Chissano, who attended the rally.

Former President Chissano is the special facilitator for Zimbabwe’s debt and arrears clearance programme being spearheaded by the African Development Bank.

President Mnangagwa said he used to work closely with former President Chissano during the liberation war.

“In 1963, me and my dear brother shared trenches together when he was in Frelimo and I was in ZANU,” he added.

The President was accompanied by First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa.

Vice President Dr Constantino Chiwenga, ZANU PF Second Secretary Cde Kembo Mohadi, the ruling party’s chairperson Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri, and senior party and Government officials also attended the star rally.

Best ZAR Real Money Games Online

Online games are fun to play already – but they are even more thrilling when you have a real money stake in them. The anticipation and the excitement this stake carries can elevate the gaming experience to a new level. Luckily, many online operators now offer their players the opportunity to use local currencies like South African Rands, leaving them nothing but to choose the best games to play.

Our short guide is meant to help you find the best games you can dive into when playing at your favourite ZAR Casino online.

Slot machines

Slot machines are the most prominent examples when it comes to playing online games for real money. There are many of them, and they are incredibly diverse and colourful. What makes them a perfect choice is that you can play them for as long or as short as you like. Besides, they also allow you to set your stake as high or low as you like. This way, you can have a short session of casual gaming with low risks or a thrilling ride with high stakes and the chance for a big win – it’s up to you.

But slot machines are not for everyone. They can be repetitive at times, becoming boring pretty fast. If you are one of the people who don’t enjoy slot machines, there are several other options you can choose from.

Video poker

Video poker represents “the best of both worlds” when it comes to real-money games you can play for Rands. It is a fast-paced game, much like a slot machine, but it also requires you to make decisions.

Basically, video poker is a single-player game of Five Card Draw. You get to decide which cards to keep and which ones to discard, and whether you want to take your chance in hopes of multiplying your winnings or taking them, moving on to the next round.

Video poker has several variants, each of them with slightly different rules, pros, and cons.

Roulette

Roulette, especially live roulette, is an interesting game to play online. It is just as accessible as an average slot machine, but it also comes with the atmosphere of a traditional gaming facility. Playing live roulette online is the closest thing to you walking into the gaming floor of Sun City. The game itself is thrilling to play online. But be aware when playing roulette: betting on the highest-paying options can be risky.

Blackjack

Finally, let’s not forget about blackjack, probably the best of all real money games online. Blackjack is fast-paced, making it a great choice for money players, but it also involves skill and strategy. It can be played in an RNG setting for faster gameplay or in a live dealer setting for a more personal and immersive experience. And if you’re looking to improve your blackjack skills, you’ll find plenty of strategy guides online.

Final words

What are the best ZAR real money games you can play online? Basically, it depends on your preference. Whether you prefer the simplicity of slot machines or the strategy-based approach of blackjack, there’s one thing you have to always keep in mind: play responsibly, and within your means.

Jah Prayzah Dumps Zanu Fearing Vanhu

By Showbiz Reporter | In a surprising turn of events, renowned singer and “prophet” of the 2017 coup that sprung Emmerson Mnangagwa into power, Jah Prayzah has rejected multiple invitations to publicly endorse the ZANU PF party, according to impeccable sources within the political organization. Over the past six months, the artist has allegedly declined participation in a series of ZANU PF events, sparking speculation about his stance on political matters.

Jah Prayzah

Cde Mabhunu Awa, a representative from ZANU PF, revealed, “He has been giving excuses at every invitation.” These events would have served as a platform for Jah Prayzah to openly endorse the party, yet his consistent absence has raised eyebrows.

The development may explain why he was nowhere near the sporadic endorsements by colleagues like Holy Ten, and Poptain.

Taffy The Man, the nation’s leading content creator, shed light on Jah Prayzah’s situation through a social media post. The feature reads, “Spare a thought for this guy. Ndiye munhu ari under pressure manje uyu. Imagine how many times they have pressured him to publicly endorse and support them.” Taffy The Man pointed out that the singer possesses significant national influence and further emphasized Jah Prayzah’s strategic silence regarding politics.

In the midst of Zimbabwe’s intricate political landscape, Taffy The Man’s post touched upon the challenges faced by Zimbabwean artists. The post humorously highlighted the dilemma where supporting either the opposition or ZANU PF leads to public scrutiny.

Taffy The Man also stated, “But what’s clear of course is that Zanu haidiwe neVanhu but Vanhu vanotya Zanu.” This suggests that while the ruling party might not seek approval from the masses, the people exhibit caution when dealing with ZANU PF.

Jah Prayzah’s choice to remain silent on political matters has been deemed a strategic decision for his mental well-being. Taffy The Man conveyed that the artist’s silence serves as a better approach to safeguarding his peace of mind, amidst a challenging political environment.

In light of these developments, it’s evident that navigating politics as a Zimbabwean artist is no easy feat. The struggles associated with affiliations and endorsements are causing individuals like Jah Prayzah to tread carefully, ultimately highlighting the complex dynamics of being a public figure in a politically charged nation.

As Zimbabwe remains a challenging environment, Taffy The Man’s poignant words resonate: “Zimbabwe ndeye Karate chete chete. Just being alive in Zimbabwe is an achievement worth putting on one’s resume.” The sentiments expressed in the post capture the difficulties faced by citizens on a daily basis, emphasizing that merely surviving in Zimbabwe is a remarkable accomplishment.

So, the next time someone asks, “What do you do for a living?” the response might just be, “I do Zimbabwe,” as being a Zimbabwean has become a full-time endeavor encompassing various challenges and complexities.

A comment from the singer was not forthcoming at the time of writing.

Police Violence in Harare Sparks Outrage and Arrests

By Dorrothy Moyo | ZimEye | Tensions escalated in Harare as violent clashes erupted between police personnel and civilians, resulting in the arrest of 19 ZRP officers. The incident, which occurred on the evening of August 18, unfolded in the heart of Harare’s Central Business District.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed the incident in an official statement, acknowledging the “unruly conduct exhibited by some Police recruits” during the aforementioned time frame. The police have taken swift action, arresting the 19 officers involved in the altercation. The police force reassured the public that the Commissioner-General of Police does not support any form of violent behavior among officers and emphasized their commitment to maintaining professionalism while interacting with the citizens of Zimbabwe and visitors.

In a strong condemnation of the violence, the Zim Human Rights Forum issued a statement expressing their concern over the unprovoked attack on civilians by the police. The Forum highlighted that the incident took place merely days before an upcoming election, potentially causing voter intimidation. They called for a comprehensive investigation into the matter to ensure accountability and justice.

As tensions rise in the wake of this incident, all eyes are on the authorities to deliver a thorough and impartial investigation. The incident’s implications on the political climate and the upcoming elections continue to raise questions about the state of law enforcement and civil rights in Zimbabwe. More details are expected to emerge as the situation develops.

Govt Says No More Exam Paper Leaks

Zimsec Successfully Prevents Examination Paper Leakages in June 2023 O and A-level Exams.

The Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (Zimsec) announced yesterday that they have effectively thwarted any instances of examination paper leakages during the June 2023 O and A-level examinations. This success is attributed to a comprehensive set of measures implemented to bolster the security of the examination process.

Nicky Dlamini, the spokesperson for Zimsec, revealed in an interview that the heightened focus on exam security was in response to the increasing occurrences of paper leakages in previous years. Dlamini stated, “Despite the smaller scale of this June session, changes and improvements were implemented to enhance examination security, and we are pleased to report that no leakages were recorded.”

Among the strategies employed by Zimsec were the rigorous profiling of school heads and institutions responsible for handling examination papers, along with an amendment to the Zimsec Act. The amendment aims to ensure stringent penalties, including custodial sentences, for those found guilty of leaking examination papers.

The release of the June 2023 O and A-level results marks a significant milestone, as these examinations were suspended in both 2021 and 2022 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The results for the June exams were unveiled simultaneously, unlike the larger November examination session.

Professor Eddie Mwenje, the chairperson of Zimsec’s board, expressed delight at the resumption of the June examinations, stating, “We are thrilled to have reinstated the June examinations to cater to our candidates seeking to further their education.”

Remarkably, a total of 21,683 candidates registered and sat for various subjects ranging from one to eight. This marks a decline compared to the 54,685 candidates who participated in June 2020. This decrease can potentially be attributed to the introduction of Continuous Assessment Learning Activities (Cala) requirements.

Prof. Mwenje offered insight, stating, “This is likely due to the fact that the June 2020 examination did not incorporate Continuous Assessment Learning Activities (Cala), while the June 2023 session mandated candidates to have a banked Cala mark for eligibility.” This stipulation meant that current school candidates who were not repeaters could not register for the exams if they hadn’t completed their Cala requirements.

Zimsec reported a notable achievement in the pass rates as well. Of the 365 candidates who sat for five or more subjects, an impressive 99 passed at least five subjects with a grade C or better. This translates to a national pass rate of 27.12 percent, a significant improvement from the 17.91 percent recorded in June 2020. At the A-level, out of the 256 candidates who took the examination, 112 attempted two or more subjects, with 85 achieving a grade E or better. This results in an outstanding pass rate of 67.06 percent.

Zanu PF Bribes Voters With Freebies

Sitting around a fire at a funeral at Machinya Village in Gutu Central, an old man from Gokwe said the plushiest campaign in Zim history was by Abel Muzorewa in 1980. He used helicopters, dropped food, clothes and other nice things from the air. At his final rally in Harare supporters could for three days not finish food provided. History repeats itself. Zanu PF’s 2023 campaign matches that; the party is using 500 trendy cars, far bigger than the fleet of the Ministries of Educ, Health, Police, Agric put together. Fast foods are distributed at rallies, millions of tshirts and caps were printed freebies are available & bribes are being paid! Muzorewa got 3 votes. Zanu PF with no resources won resoundingly with 57.

Sunday Mail Says 80 Percent of Zimbabweans Are Gainfully Employed

The analysis of the survey claiming an 80 percent gainful employment rate among Zimbabweans reveals a discrepancy between the government’s celebratory announcement and the actual unemployment data provided by the Zimbabwe National Statistical Agency (ZimStat). While the government media cites the latest labor force survey by ZimStat, which indicates an 80 percent employment rate, the official data from the agency’s 2023 Second Quarterly Labour Force Survey reports an unemployment rate of 19.7 percent.

This discrepancy raises questions about the government’s intent in presenting such a high employment rate. It appears to be more of a political celebration by the ZANU PF party government rather than an accurate representation of the country’s labor market situation. The attempt to portray a significantly higher employment rate than the actual figure could be seen as an effort to create a positive image and downplay the challenges faced by the workforce.

ZimStat’s adherence to internationally accepted principles and definitions of labor market indicators lends credibility to their methodology. The agency emphasizes that the official definition of unemployment is important for international comparability. The survey’s focus on individuals aged 15 and above and the questions posed regarding work for pay or profit, active job seeking, and availability for work within the next 14 days align with standard practices for labor force surveys.

ZimStat’s director-general, Mr. Takura Mahonde, addresses misconceptions surrounding labor statistics, particularly the notion that employment only pertains to the formal sector. He points out the significance of considering both formal and informal economic activities, as well as various forms of employment such as casual work, part-time work, and self-employment. This suggests that the government’s celebration might be ignoring the diversity of employment types and overemphasizing one specific aspect.

Furthermore, the analysis highlights the changing economic landscape in Zimbabwe, where individuals are increasingly engaged in small businesses and the informal sector. This shift, often driven by necessity due to job losses in the formal sector, has led to a redistribution of economic activity and empowerment of individuals. The emergence of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) as significant employers challenges the traditional concept of employment and formal job opportunities.

In conclusion, the analysis underscores the importance of accurate and transparent labor market data. The discrepancy between the celebratory announcement and the official survey results raises concerns about the government’s presentation of employment figures. While the shift towards informal economic activities is a noteworthy development, it’s crucial to accurately represent the true state of the labor market to make informed policy decisions and address challenges effectively.

Government Threatens Foreign Observers

Then later this was - 1987 at the end of the Gukurahundi massacres. Mnangagwa doesn't look happy that the killing is over, as it were.

GOVERNMENT STATEMENT ON FOREIGN OBSERVER MISSION

Issued by Permanent Secretary Nick Mangwana 18 /07/23

Government notes with disappointment, reports carried today by a local daily on alleged gross interference in Zimbabwe’s electoral processes by a named foreign observer mission.

Allegations that the foreign observer mission is giving grocery vouchers, fuel coupons and other freebies to local journalists so that they write negative reports on the elections have been met with the utmost disgust.

The reports, if true, go against the spirit of mutual respect in the commity of nations that the invitation to observe our elections was extended under.

His Excellency President Emmerson Mnangagwa was clear that an invitation to observe was not an invitation to interfere and “No foreign power is a stakeholder in Zimbabwe’s electoral processes.”

Government will not hesitate to take stern action against any foreign observers who have chosen to break convention and dabble in the election processes of our country.

For the particular transgression raised in this statement, Government will take appropriate action.

Government urges all Zimbabweans to continue to exercise their democratic rights peacefully before and after the forthcoming elections.

Universities Granted Permission to Charge USD

In a significant development, universities in Zimbabwe have received approval to peg their fees in United States dollars (USD), while allowing payment in local currency convertible at the interbank rate during the time of payment. The Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development has been reviewing various fee proposals submitted by universities for approval.

The decision comes as the government acknowledges the need to strike a balance between ensuring accessibility to higher education, delivering quality education, and sustaining institutions. Professor Fanuel Tagwira, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, confirmed that the decision was made to address concerns about students waiting for currency depreciation before paying their fees, and to avoid frequent fee adjustments due to exchange rate fluctuations.

While the government aims to regulate tuition fees, other costs such as food and accommodation may vary across institutions. The move to peg fees in USD is expected to provide stability and encourage timely payment.

Professor Tagwira emphasized that the approved fees are reasonable, with the objective of making higher education accessible to all. He also mentioned the availability of the “work for fees” program, allowing students who cannot afford tuition to contribute through work.

However, tensions have arisen at Zimbabwe Open University (ZOU), where students claim they were not consulted about fee changes and are threatening to withhold payments. The students demand transparency, consultation, and government approval for the conversion of Zimbabwe dollar fees to USD. Solidarity among students from various regions further reinforces the call for fair fees that reflect the quality of education provided.

The situation remains dynamic as universities work towards implementing the new fee structures, and the government continues to engage with student concerns and seek equitable solutions.- state media

Zamalek Target Billiat

Khama Billiat has been linked with a move to one of the African giants.

The former Warriors international is currently without a club following the end of his contract at Kaizer Chiefs in June.

The departure happened under unclear circumstances and the player has blocked every effort by the club to restart the contract negotiations.

This has put him back on the market and recent reports have suggested that Billiat is wanted in Egypt.

According to Soccer Laduma, Zamalek have reignited their interest in the player but a move at this stage is unlikely as the club’s is focused on other areas.

The publication quoted an unnamed source, saying: “Zamalek have been following his progress and there are agents and intermediators from France who are working with agents and managers in Zimbabwe to potentially do a deal.

“Now, it won’t be a difficult one because he is a free agent and it won’t be a problem dealing with the situation.”

Five years ago, Zamalek were interested in Billiat but they couldn’t get the player after he decided to join Chiefs following his departure at Mamelodi Sundowns.-Soccer24 News

Mnangagwa Punishing Parents Through CALA – President Chamisa

Bindura North RALLY – President Nelson Chamisa’s Summary Speech

On Friday, President Nelson Chamisa concluded his visit to Mashonaland Central Province by holding a constituency rally in Bindura North. Despite facing challenges such as banned rallies and disruptions by the police and a Zanu PF outfit called FAZ, he bravely addressed the citizens, demonstrating his commitment and dedication to a better Zimbabwe.

During his speech, President Chamisa acknowledged the bravery and resilience of the people of Mashonaland Central in the face of violence and intimidation from Zanu PF. As a gesture of appreciation, he pledged to hold the first victory celebration rally in Mashonaland Central after the elections on August 23rd. He also promised to compensate victims of violence in the province and stressed the importance of reconciliation, particularly in relation to the 2008 violence under the illegal operation #WavhoteraPapi, which resulted in the deaths and torture of hundreds of people and property destruction.

President Chamisa outlined his government’s plans to abolish the tribal basis for naming provinces and replace them with non-tribal regions. He pledged to establish five regions instead of the current ten provinces, with Bindura becoming the city of the Northern region. He envisioned Bindura as a thriving city with mining and processing of nickel, gold, and other minerals, creating employment opportunities and stimulating economic growth in the region.

The President also pledged to promote agricultural production by ensuring fair returns for wheat, maize, soya beans, and cotton farmers in the region. To protect farmers’ land rights, his government would issue title deeds to all farmers, including resettled ones. He assured farmers that his government would not displace them or take away their land, urging them to disregard false reports from Zanu PF elements.

President Chamisa took the opportunity to share his party’s manifesto, the New Zimbabwe blueprint, which outlined plans for economic restoration through infrastructure improvement, tax reform, communication network development, and power generation. The manifesto also addressed social services, including healthcare, education, pensions, and civil servants’ salaries.

In the education sector, the President promised free primary education, the abolition of exam fees, and the replacement of the CALA curriculum with a modern and citizen-oriented one. In healthcare, he pledged free maternal healthcare, improved facilities, and free healthcare for senior citizens. Civil servants would receive a decent living wage, and pensioners would be compensated for losses incurred due to the current government’s policies. The President also emphasized the need to restore the dignity of war veterans.

President Chamisa’s speech showcased his commitment to addressing persecution, violence, ensuring land ownership rights, promoting economic growth, and improving social services in Mashonaland Central and beyond.

RECLAIMING THE PROMISE FOR EVERYONE:A YEARNING FOR FREEDOM

BY SIMBA MUKORI

Zimbabwe is a beautiful country born out of an arduous and protracted struggle against white settler supremacist colonial domination, dispossession and subjugation that came to an end on the 18th of April 1980.The gallant and illustrious heroes and heroines who paid supreme sacrifices by laying down their lives to liberate this country from the shackles of colonial bondage did so with one singular intent as the driving force;to ensure that every citizen of this great nation enjoys untrammelled freedom, justice and peace regardless of one’s colour, religion, ethnicity, gender or political affiliation.

To immortalize and perpetuate into posterity the great promise that the new independent post-colonial nation-state made and vowed to attain ,the overwhelming majority of this country adopted a splendid, glamorous emblem-our national flag whose colors represent profound themes that resonate with their inordinate and passionate aspirations, wishes and national expectations.Indeed, the hoisting of the national flag came to represent the rising of a mighty hope,a promise of prosperity, opportunity for all and all-encompassing transformation! The pulling down of the Union Jack symbolized,at least in the collective psyche of the new born nation,an eventual crushing and liquidation of racially engineered mass poverty, economic exploitation and numbing inequality.
However,as the years went by after this great promise of liberation, this was not to be!

As unequivocally clear as it is now,the leaders who presided over the affairs of this great nation squandered a golden opportunity to reorient and reconfigure the state towards an egalitarian society whose economy functions and performs for all! They dismally failed to transform from liberation movement into a developmental vehicle that sustains and improves the quality of life for everyone. To the contrary, they instead appropriated the state and used it as an instrument for self-enrichment that benefited a select few who are connected to the political ruling, ruining elite at the expense of the generality of the population who up to this day continue to languish in excruciating agony of lack and want.

Forty-three years after independence, after that glamorous and bold promise of the liberation struggle to the black child, the dream of a better Zimbabwe remain elusive. At least 70% of the general populace are living in extreme poverty in this country.Unemplyoment has increased exponentially with an estimated 95% of the overwhelming majority out of work.Prices of basic goods and services have escalated astronomically beyond the reach of many.Food insecurity remains a spectre haunting many a households.Needless to say, corruption has become rampant and ubiquitous even as it remains iniquitous to the soul of the nation as it deprives the state of resources to provide services.Add to all these the gross economic mismanagement and flagrant violations of basic human rights which has become a perpetual reality of Zimbabwean society, then we have a typical fragile, failed state!

The question though, that continues to hitherto baffle the minds of many is how did a country that held such great redemptive potential and hope for the disadvantaged and downtrodden majority,a Great Jewel of Africa in the eloquent words of Baba Julius Mwalimu Nyerere of Tanzania, deteriorate and degenerate into a pariah state and an outpost of tyranny, hunger and economic misery that it is today? How did this great nation abrogate and betray the promise that it made to its citizens,a promise immortalized in the emblem of the national flag but very elusive to this day?

We all know that the colour green on our flag represent our land and agriculture. It is still a reminder that Zimbabwe has abundant prime lands, vast fresh bodies of water and pristine conducive climatic conditions that allows her to grow and feed her millions of citizens.Inspite of these endowments, the most recent Zimbabwe Vulnerability Assessment Report assert that almost 5,5 million of our people are food insecure and are on the brink of starvation.

We all know that the colour yellow represents the abundant mineral resources that this country is blessed with.Zimbabwe is home to about 60 different types of mineral deposits be it gold, platinum, diamond, chrome, lithium and even gas and many more! With all these mineral deposits that are known, the promise was Zimbabwe cannot afford to be poor when we are home to such mineral wealth. However, today it is only those connected to the ruling elite,a voracious and egocentric kleptocratic clique that is benefiting through all types of Mafia structures like Gold mafia, chrome Mafia etc.
The government itself admitted and confirmed that the country is losing about 100 million United States dollars a month to illegal gold smuggling alone! That is USD1,2 billion dollars a year from gold alone!Imagine if we had a Sovereign Wealth Fund were we remit all the proceeds from our mineral wealth and use it to cater for the basic needs of every deserving citizen like what other countries do!

Furthermore, this country has never known peace on account of an inordinate desire by Zanu pf to retain and consolidate power at all cost! The color white on the flag was a promise for creating a peace-loving society where all people would live in harmony regardless of political affiliation, colour, religion, gender or beliefs. Unfortunately Gukurahundi is an ingrained stain on the history of Zimbabwe that betrayed that pledge.Murambatsvina atrocities, the 2008 violence towards the re-run elections, the sanitized coup in 2017 and the unfortunate events of 1 August 2018 are all an historic abrogation and betrayal of the peace that was promised at independence, born of the war of liberation.Today Honourable Job Wiwa Sikhala and Mr Ngarivhune are languishing in jail for expressing themselves critical of the excesses of the government.Where is the peace in that?

A lot can be said about how Zanu pf of Mugabe and the current administration of ED Dambudzo Mnangagwa has betrayed the promise of independence. For the past 43 good years this country has experienced massive structural regression characterized by alarming levels of unemployment,de-industrialisation at an unprecedented scale and unimaginable deterioration and decay of infrastructure. The country is now a cesspool of abject poverty with millions of Zimbabweans now trekking out into the Diaspora to seek survival opportunities.Hence there is nothing that Zanu pf,its appendages and cronies can do better now to change the situation when they failed to do so in 43 years of misrule.

However there is hope,a hope to regain and reclaim the promise, the promise that Zim can be food-secure.The promise that our mineral wealth is not for ED alone but for everyone. The promise that our land is not for a select politically connected few but for everyone, promise that peace is attainable and that black people we deserve to live in the dignity of prosperity and not in the indignity of poverty is possible.

We are going into an election on the 23th of August 2023,just a few days from now and on that day Zimbabweans must reclaim the promise made at independence. Our yearning for greater political and economic freedom must find expression on that day as we vote for a Zimbabwe that works and an economy that functions and performs for everyone.Voting Zanu pf out and giving a chance to the Citizens Coalition for Change under the able and capable tutelage of Advocate Nelson Chamisa is the first step in reclaiming that promise of a great,peaceful,mineral-rich,food-secure and healthy nation.

Sithule Tshuma’s Scandalous Qoki ZiNdlovukazi – The Quartet’s Devious Fraudulent Plans Busted!

By Own Correspondent— What initially appeared as a beacon of hope and empowerment has become a tangle of controversy and deception surrounding the UK-based women’s supposedly charity empowerment group “Qoki.”

Shockwaves reverberate through the organization as allegations of manipulation, embezzlement, and underhanded tactics cast a further dark shadow over its reputation.
At the heart of this unfolding scandal is Sithule Tshuma, the seeming alluring yet now allegedly ruthless director of Qoki, accused of orchestrating a series of devious plans.

Sithule Tshuma’s façade of benevolence belies a much darker reality.
Murmurs circulating within Bulawayo, Manchester, and the diaspora communities have shed light on her purported bullying tendencies and the manipulation of investors through threats and intimidation.
Reports suggest that the Mental Health Staff Nurse, Tshuma’s grip over Qoki’s operations extended far and wide, allowing her to allegedly manipulate Qoki trading platforms, expel dissenting investors, and cloak dubious activities from public scrutiny.

Under the guise of philanthropy, the true motives behind Qoki have been cast in doubt.
Allegations of embezzlement continue to surface against three Qoki Directors, closely connected to Sithule and originating from Bulawayo: Bridget Dube, Karen Kumalo, and Nompilo Moyo.
They stand accused of masterminding a deceitful scheme involving the sale of land at inflated prices and manipulating agreements for sale through falsified figures.
The fallout from this alleged fraud has left unsuspecting investors reeling, facing substantial financial losses of up to $180,000 in the Douglasdale 4 project and approximately $700,000 in the Airport Road venture (more other projects have similar issues).
The exposé’s primary objective is to highlight these individuals’ deceptive practices and advocate for justice to prevail.
Moreover, a previous incident in Nondwene 1, dating back to 2021, raises concerns.
Ms Tshuma reportedly demanded funds for road construction on a land parcel entangled in ownership disputes, yet investors still need to be funded.
The funds at the centre of these allegations were originally designated for diverse development ventures, spanning plots, hotels, golf courses, farms, garages, banks, markets, and a logistics company.

In the case of Douglasdale 4, the evidence points to unsuspecting investors entering an agreement with Tshuma and Qoki to purchase a piece of land for $700,000.
A thorough investigation later revealed that the actual value of the land, as evidenced by receipts, was only $520,000. This discrepancy highlights an overpayment of an astonishing $180,000 due to alleged coercion.

Taking their deception a step further, the accused parties are said to have manipulated the agreement for sale by falsifying figures to rationalize the higher purchase price.
In an unexpected twist, the legitimate land seller, who did not know about the scam, emerged with compelling evidence that substantiated the actual value of the land and confirmed the alleged deceitful practices perpetrated by Sithule Tshuma and Qoki.
The rightful seller promptly presented genuine receipts and verified payment dates, providing unequivocal evidence that the land’s true market value stood at $520,000, with payments made in varying instalments as opposed to the presented narrative.
Supplementary documents have come to light, exposing discrepancies within the sales agreement and lending credence to the accusations of fraudulent manipulation. When probed about these discrepancies, Ms Tshuma disclosed to investors that she had manipulated the figures in order to evade excessive Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) taxes.
Nonetheless, her explanation is met with scepticism, as investors had already remitted conveyancing fees based on the altered figures ($700,000). This discrepancy raises suspicions about the underlying motives driving the alleged deception. An emerging pattern of embezzlement and underhanded tactics linked to Sithule Tshuma is beginning to take shape, as she was reportedly overheard saying, “I had to do what I had to do…., and…. I had to pay $4000 in bribe money for every development permit with the Zimbabwe Spatial Land Ministry.” These claims further contribute to the mounting concerns surrounding her actions.
The allegations against the quartet extend beyond fund misappropriation. Allegations suggest that Sithule, alongside her legal representative, Mr Zibusiso Charles Ncube, engaged in schemes to inflate land prices artificially, evade ZMRA tax payments, issue incomplete contracts, reserve prime land for the quartet, and produce fraudulent title deeds. The involvement of Mr Ncube in the sale of gazetted land has intensified concerns, adding layers of complexity to the unfolding scandal.

Investors who once placed their trust and resources in Qoki and Mr Ncube now grapple with the aftermath. Pleas for refunds were reportedly ignored, as the quartet’s leadership allegedly remained unresponsive to concerns. Disgruntled investors initiated legal action, exacerbating the organization’s tarnished reputation.

Amidst the legal battles and shattered dreams, a glimmer of hope emerges.
A coalition of investors, united by their pursuit of justice, has risen to challenge the alleged wrongdoings of Sithule Tshuma and her quartet of associates.
This unified effort seeks to hold those responsible accountable for their actions.

The case underscores the importance of protecting individuals from unscrupulous schemes, particularly when influential figures exploit their positions for personal gain. The fight against fraud and corruption demands the collective effort of society to ensure accountability and safeguard the innocent.

The saga of Qoki serves as a poignant reminder that transparency and ethical conduct remain paramount in philanthropy and business.
As the wheels of justice begin to turn, the future of Qoki, its directors, and the individuals impacted by the alleged fraudulent practices hangs in the balance.
The story of Qoki stands as a cautionary tale, reminding us that deceit and manipulation can only remain concealed for a limited time before accountability prevails.

Horrifying Ordeal For Majachani

By A Correspondent- In a horrifying incident at a city centre drinking spot, Silver Majachani (32) experienced a nightmarish ordeal when two men forcefully dragged him out of the establishment, accusing him of stealing their cellphone. Raymond Mkwananzi (40) and Surprise Ndlovu (29) acted as a formidable duo, subjecting Majachani to a brutal assault that he will never forget.

According to a close source, Majachani was enjoying himself with friends when Mkhwananzi and Ndlovu stormed into the nightspot. Without hesitation, they approached Majachani’s table, seized him, and forcibly removed him from the premises situated between 11th and 12th avenues along Fife Street.

Once outside, the assailants took turns unleashing a flurry of blows upon him, using a sjambok and resorting to kicks, all while demanding the return of their alleged stolen cellphone.

The attack lasted a harrowing twenty minutes, during which Majachani endured severe physical trauma. He was kicked relentlessly throughout his body and face, resulting in profuse bleeding. A concerned friend of Majachani quickly rushed to report the incident to the Bulawayo Central Police Station.

Responding swiftly, the police arrived at the scene to find Mkhwananzi and Ndlovu still viciously assaulting Majachani, who lay on the ground, crying out for help. The authorities wasted no time in apprehending the attackers, handcuffing them, and escorting them to the police station, culminating in their subsequent arrest.

Majachani was immediately transported to Mpilo Central Hospital for urgent medical attention. Medical professionals discovered that he had suffered two broken teeth, while three others were left loose and unstable, adding to the extent of his injuries.

Expressing concern over the incident, a regular patron at the nightspot criticized the lax security measures in place, stating, “Our safety at this establishment is compromised. How can a patron be violently dragged out of the club while security personnel stand by?”

The patron went on to emphasize the urgent need for the nightspot’s management to address security shortcomings and enhance the protection of its customers. Such a distressing incident, the patron argued, would not be tolerated in other reputable nightclubs.

As the investigation continues, authorities are expected to take swift action to ensure justice is served for Majachani and to improve the safety standards at the city centre nightspot, preventing future occurrences of such violent incidents.

“Zanu PF Rejected Electoral Act Amendment”: ZEC

By A Correspondent- Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) chairperson, Priscilla Chigumba, stated that the ruling ZANU PF party rejected the electoral management body’s recommendations to amend the Electoral Act for the purpose of conducting credible elections.

Chigumba made these remarks on Wednesday during a discussion with election observers in the capital, regarding ZEC’s readiness for the upcoming elections scheduled for next Wednesday. She said:

ZEC submitted several recommendations requiring alignment of the Electoral Act with the 2013 Constitution through the ministry of Justice and Legal and Parliamentary Affairs.

When ZEC wants to make a recommendation to change a certain section of the Electoral Act, we write to the Justice ministry, and attach a copy of our recommendation and we requested that our recommendation be incorporated in the law. The Minister of Justice (Ziyambi Ziyambi) being a member of a certain political party will take our recommendation to his political party and sometimes our recommendations find their way into the law and sometimes they do not.

Some of our recommendations found their way into the Electoral Amendment Bill, but a lot of them have not and we continue to make recommendations.

Zimbabwe has a history of contentious elections. President Emmerson Mnangagwa pledged to enhance the electoral process, but the opposition claims that the ZANU PF government manipulates ZEC.

Following the 2018 elections, observer missions urged the alignment of the Electoral Act with the Constitution, among other recommendations. Unfortunately, most of these recommendations were disregarded. The Electoral Act in Zimbabwe clashes with the country’s Constitution in several instances. These include the composition of ZEC, limitations on freedom of expression and media access, and inadequate provisions for voter registration transparency.

To address these issues, recommendations have been made, such as aligning the ZEC’s composition with constitutional requirements to ensure independence and impartiality, amending legislation to guarantee freedom of expression and media access, and strengthening provisions for auditing and transparency in voter registration.

These recommendations aim to create a more level playing field, uphold constitutional principles, and enhance the integrity and fairness of the electoral process.

Chigumba appealed to political parties, urging them to control their supporters and ensure a peaceful environment before and after the elections. She also expressed satisfaction with the peaceful conduct of the chiefs’ elections and suggested that Zimbabweans could learn from them, highlighting their positive example for maintaining peace during the electoral process.

ZEC Releases List of Prohibited Activities at Polling Stations

By A Correspondent- Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) yesterday released a list of activities that are not permitted within a 300-metre radius of a polling station on election day next Wednesday.

Posting on its official Twitter page, ZEC said wearing party regalia, sloganeering, using political or candidate-branded vehicles and distributing leaflets or pamphlets on behalf of a candidate or political party are prohibited.

Some of the activities which are prohibited include public singing, dancing and the use of bands, music, or loudspeakers as well as the use of cameras or phones.

The country goes to the polls on Wednesday next week to elect a President, Members of Parliament and councillors.

According to ZEC, there are 6 623 511 registered voters in Zimbabwe with Bulawayo having 287 720 voters while Matabeleland North has 371 587.

Matabeleland South has 300 763 registered voters while the Midlands has 840 961 people who are eligible to vote.

A total of 12 374 polling stations have been established.

Speaking during a media briefing in Harare on Wednesday, ZEC chairperson, Justice Priscilla Chigumba, said as at August 14, a total of 3 572 local observers, 136 foreign observers, 376 local journalists and 15 foreign journalists had been accredited.

Meanwhile, ZEC has dismissed as unfounded, allegations that the voters’ roll recently given to Presidential and National Assembly constituency candidates cannot be searched and analysed.

ZEC chief elections officer, Mr Utloile Silaigwana, said the voters’ roll is searchable and analysable as per provisions of Section 21(7)(1) of the Electoral Act[Chapter 2:13].

The section states that where a voters roll is provided in electronic form in terms of subsection (3), (4) or (6), its format shall be such as allows its contents to be searched and analysed, provided that — (i) the roll may be formatted so as to prevent it being altered or otherwise tampered with.

“It is for this reason that ZEC has issued out the voters’ roll in its current format. There is nowhere in the Act where it is stated that the roll should be in excel or printable formats known to have compromised security features,” said Mr Silaigwana.

“The voters’ roll issued out to candidates has columns for the voter’s surname, forename, ID number, gender, date of birth, voter’s address, polling station, ward, local authority, constituency, district and province as prescribed in Section 20(2) of the Electoral Act.”

Mr Silaigwana said the polling station codes have not been included on the voters’ roll because they are an administrative tool used by the Commission to map out polling stations during delimitation hence they are not part of the voters’ roll as alleged.

He said the electorate and other stakeholders should expect to see real names of polling stations and not codes on the voters’ roll.

“Ordinary voters without access to the electronic voters’ roll are encouraged to dial the USSD Code *265# on their mobile phones to ascertain their registration status and respective polling stations. The Commission would like to urge all stakeholders with queries on the voters’ roll or any other electoral issue to approach the Commission for clarification,” said Mr Silaigwana.

He said people should desist from casting aspersions on the voters’ roll and other electoral processes as this may affect voter turnout and discredit the polls.

Storm Over Makandiwa Prophecy

By A Correspondent- Emmanuel Makandiwa, the leader of the United Family International Church (UFIC), has predicted that the ruling ZANU PF and President Emmerson Mnangagwa will win the forthcoming August 23 elections. Makandiwa confidently declared that the ruling ZANU PF party would emerge victorious with a significant margin. He said, if Zanupf loses the election, his followers should then find another man of God.

This revelation has sparked intense speculation and debate throughout the country, as citizens eagerly await the election outcome to see if his prophecy comes true.

Some critics argue that religious leaders should not only focus on election predictions but also address pressing issues such as human rights abuses, corruption, and political vices in the country. Norton Member of Parliament (Independent), Temba Mliswa said:

As the election date approaches, Zimbabweans find themselves torn between hope and scepticism, eagerly anticipating the unfolding events. The nation awaits the verdict on August 23, which will shape Zimbabwe’s future. Several self-proclaimed prophets including Nigerian pastor, Samuel Akinbodunse, have made predictions stating that opposition leader Nelson Chamisa will emerge victorious in the upcoming elections, following his loss in the contentious 2018 presidential election.

Effects of Makandiwa’s “Prophecy”

Makandiwa’s “prophecy” about the upcoming elections can impact voters in various ways. It may strengthen the support of his followers for the ruling ZANU PF party, reinforcing their beliefs. The prophecy could also lead undecided voters to reconsider their choices or become more cautious. However, it might also result in voter apathy among opposition supporters who feel that the outcome is predetermined, leading them to potentially give up on voting altogether.

Religion has played a significant role in Zimbabwean politics throughout history. Before colonialism, traditional governance relied on spirit mediums who influenced the selection of kings. During colonial rule, Christianity was introduced and used by authorities to justify control. However, churches also became spaces for resistance against oppression. After independence, the government maintained close ties with religious leaders for nation-building. Nevertheless, concerns have arisen about the misuse of religious platforms by influential figures like Makandiwa, Walter Magaya, Nehemiah Mutendi, Uebert Angel, and Madzibaba Andyby to sway congregants towards political agendas, including support for the ruling ZANU PF party. Religion in Zimbabwean politics offers moral guidance, social cohesion, and resistance, but the blurring of boundaries between religious and political spheres raises questions.

Trio Assault STI Infectious Lover

By A Correspondent- In a disturbing incident in Filabusi, Matabeleland South province, a man, along with his sister and a friend, allegedly assaulted his ex-l0ver, accusing her of infecting him with a Sǝxuɑlly Transmitted Infection (STI). The violent attack involved the use of a knife to tear the victim’s clothes, leaving her nɑked, followed by the perpetrators pouring cold water on her and subjecting her to severe whipping on her buttocks.

The sh0cking episode unfolded when Portia Siziba (18), the victim, unexpectedly encountered her former partner, Mqondisi Sibanda (25), and his sister, Lindiwe Sibanda (29), while she was on her way to the shops. The situation quickly escalated as Mqondisi and Lindiwe accused Siziba of transmitting an STI to Mqondisi. Enraged, the pair allegedly assaulted Siziba by grabbing her neck, slapping, and punching her, as revealed in court.

Despite Siziba’s attempt to flee, Mqondisi tripped her, causing her to fall. While she lay on the ground, the assailants took turns kicking and beating her while showering her with insults. Later, their friend joined in the attack. Together, they forcibly tore off Siziba’s bra and blouse, leaving her partially unclothed.

The violent trio then dragged Siziba to Lindiwe’s residence, where Lindiwe retrieved a kitchen knife. With the knife, Lindiwe proceeded to tear Siziba’s trousers and underwear, leaving her completely nɑked. They ordered Siziba to lie down on the ground, drenched her with cold water, and relentlessly whipped her on the butt0cks using a whip, according to court testimony.

Subsequently, the perpetrators confiscated Siziba’s phone battery before instructing her to run away. Siziba promptly reported the incident to the police, resulting in the arrest of the siblings. The third accomplice is currently at large and yet to be apprehended.

Makandiwa At It Again

By- The United Family International Church (UFIC) leader, Emmanuel Makandiwa, has angered Zimbabweans by saying that Zanu PF and its President Emmerson Mnangagwa would win the Wednesday elections.

He unashamedly declared that the ruling Zanu PF party would emerge victorious and added that if Zanu PF loses, his followers should then find another man of God.

It’s tiresome how these supposed men of God keep posturing about prophesying who the winner of the elections will be without also speaking out against the many human rights abuses, corruption, violence and other political vices plaguing the country.

ZEC Announces Campaign Deadline

By- The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) says all election campaign rallies should end two days before the election date.

ZEC’s vice-chairman, Rodney Kiwa, said any political party that violates this deadline would face legal consequences.

 Kiwa said:

Any campaigning by any political party, candidates, or individuals should end on August 21 at midnight. August 22 should be a quiet day and no political campaigning is allowed. If any party campaigns they will be liable to the law, it’s in terms of the Electoral Act and they will be criminalised. Those who campaign will be bound to prosecution, as ZEC will see to that. Midnight on August 21 is the deadline.

ZEC has also published a list of prohibited activities within a 300-meter radius of polling stations, including the ban on party regalia, slogans, political vehicles, leaflets, public performances, and the use of cameras or phones.

In a notice seen by Pindula News, the electoral body also said it is a punishable offence to refuse to leave a polling station when a Presiding Officer orders one to do so. Read the notice:

REFUSAL TO LEAVE A POLLING STATION

It is an offence to refuse or fail to leave a polling station when lawfully required to do so by the Presiding Officer. Offenders are liable to a fine not exceeding level four or to imprisonment for a period not exceeding three months or to both such fine and such imprisonment. (Electoral Act – Chapter 2;13, Section 90).

Regarding ballot printing, ZEC announced the following quantities produced for each election category:

  • Presidential Election: 7,126,600 ballot papers
  • National Assembly Elections: 7,098,750 ballot papers
  • Council Elections: 6,861,650 ballot papers

ZEC’s chief elections officer, Mr Utloile Silaigwana, explained the reasons for the variation in the number of ballot papers printed for each election category. He stated that for the National Assembly election, the passing of an independent candidate in the Gutu West National Assembly constituency led to a postponement. In the local authority election, elections won’t be held in 91 wards due to unopposed candidates and the unfortunate demise of four candidates. These elections will be conducted at a later date.

ZEC has also published a list of the 12,374 polling stations distributed as follows:

  • Bulawayo: 434
  • Harare: 1,559
  • Manicaland: 1,623
  • Mashonaland Central: 1,107
  • Mashonaland East: 1,420
  • Mashonaland West: 1,507
  • Masvingo: 1,416
  • Matabeleland North: 920
  • Matabeleland South: 721
  • Midlands: 1,667

ZEC Chairperson Justice Priscilla Chigumba confirmed that 6 623 511 people have been registered to vote in the elections. She also confirmed the following categories of participants in the elections:

  • Presidential Candidates: 11
  • National Assembly Candidates: 518
  • Independent Candidates: 64
  • Local Authority Candidates (sponsored by political parties): 4,648
  • Independent Local Authority Candidates: 266

Regarding the election of two Senators to represent persons with disabilities, ZEC Chief Elections Officer, Mr Utoile Silaigwana, provided the following information:

  • The Electoral College, consisting of specified associations and institutions, will convene on August 26.
  • The election will be conducted in accordance with section 120(1)(d) of the Constitution.
  • The specified associations and institutions are listed in Statutory Instrument 133 of 2023.
  • The Electoral College will gather at the Rainbow Towers Hotel in Harare on Saturday, August 26, 2023, from 7 am to 7 pm to elect the Senators representing persons with disabilities.

Last month, Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Ziyambi Ziyambi, prescribed a list of 119 associations and institutions. These entities will nominate individuals who will compose the Electoral College responsible for filling the Senate seats for Senators elected to represent persons with disabilities. The list was formulated after consultations with Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Minister, Professor Paul Mavima.

FAZ Lands Gutu Man In Jail

By A Correspondent| Gutu Magistrate Mitchell Panavanhu has sentenced a Masvingo man to serve one year in jail after convicting him for an offence, which allegedly involved querying some shenanigans committed by the shadowy Forever Associates of Zimbabwe (FAZ).

51 year-old Goodson Matanda, who resides in Gutu in Masvingo province, had been on trial after he was arrested on 1 June 2023 by Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) officers, following a verbal altercation with FAZ members, who were stationed at a Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) polling station, which had been designated by the elections management body as an inspection centre for purposes of the voters’ roll inspection exercise.

For committing the alleged offence, Matanda was charged with assault
as defined in section 89(1)(a) of the Criminal Law (Codification and
Reform) Act.

During trial, prosecutors alleged that on 1 June 2023 and at Rafamoyo Primary School in Gutu, Matanda assaulted Shamiso Madondo, a resident of Gutu, who is employed as a FAZ member and who had been deployed at the school, writing down some details of people engaged in the inspection of the voters’ roll.

The prosecutors alleged that Matanda arrived and started taking
pictures of Madondo and other ZANU PF political party members, who were at the school using his mobile phone handset.

A misunderstanding reportedly arose after the ZANU PF political party supporters questioned why he was taking pictures of them.

Matanda, prosecutors alleged, then assaulted Madondo during the
altercation and accused her of being used by the ruling ZANU PF
political party.

Matanda, who was represented by Dereck Charamba of Ndlovu and Hwacha Legal Practitioners, and had been out of custody on bail, was on
Friday 11 August 2023 convicted by Magistrate Panavanhu, who sentenced him to serve 12 months in jail.

However, Matanda will only serve 315 hours of community service after Magistrate Panavanhu suspended the jail term on condition of good behavior and him completing the community service.

ZEC Taken To Task Over People With Disabilities’ Access To Voting Centres

By A Correspondent| Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) has asked the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) to provide information on measures which the elections management body has implemented to ensure that people
with disabilities can comfortably have access to polling stations
designated for the 2023 general elections and guarantee the secrecy of their vote.

In a letter written on Thursday 17 August 2023 to ZEC, ZLHR lawyers
Tinomuda Shoko and Tinashe Chinopfukutwa stated that ZLHR had noted that ZEC had published a list of all provisional polling stations to be used in this year’s general elections to be held on Wednesday 23 August 2023.

However, Shoko and Chinopfukutwa said, the published list of polling stations does not advise the public if all of the said provisional polling stations have facilities which are accessible by people with disabilities in order to enable them to cast their vote.

The human rights lawyers stated that in terms of section 67(3) of the
Constitution, every Zimbabwe citizen who is aged 18 years and above has the right to vote in all elections and referendums and has the corollary right to vote in secret.

Furthermore, in terms of section 56(3) of the Constitution, every
person has the right not to be treated in an unfairly discriminatory
manner among other things on the basis of disability.

Shoko and Chinopfukutwa emphasised that ZEC has a constitutional obligation to ensure that all the polling stations to be used in the harmonised elections are accessible and are friendly to persons with disability.

The human rights lawyers asked ZEC to advise ZLHR of the measures and or special arrangements it has taken and implemented to ensure that
all polling stations to be used in this year’s general elections are
accessible to people with disabilities and to guarantee the secrecy of their vote.

They also asked ZEC to indicate when it will publish the final list of
polling stations and given that the general elections are imminent,
ZEC should respond to this request by 18 August 2023.

Is ZEC Ready For Polls?

THE Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) says it is prepared to deliver credible elections next Wednesday as most of the logistical arrangements are now in place.

Briefing the media in Harare this Wednesday, ZEC chairperson, Justice Priscilla Chigumba said most of the logistical arrangements are now in place.

“The Commission has procured all essential electoral materials and has delivered 80% of them to provinces under police escort and I would like to thank the police who are one of our valued stakeholders and we appreciate you. I would like to inform you that the Commission is ready to conduct the 2023 harmonised elections and I would like to appreciate our Ministry of Finance for funding almost 100% of our requirements.

“We hope to deliver a free, fair and credible election and as I stand before you as Chairperson of ZEC, I would like to assure you that we have everything in place, be it legal, social or any other requirement and we are eager to conduct a free, fair and credible election,” she said.

Justice Chigumba also spoke on the recruitment of electoral officers as well as the accreditation of observers and journalists.

She said, “3 572 local observers, 136 foreign observers 376 local journalists and 15 foreign journalists had been accredited as of August 14. 150 000 electoral officers that would be deployed throughout the country while 12 374 polling stations had been created and the list would be published on August 23.”

She added, “All contestants in the elections have been given copies of the voters’ roll as required by law with those contesting the local authorities’ elections being given the ward voters’ roll while those vying for the National Assembly seats got the constituency voters’ roll and the presidential candidates received the national voters’ roll.”

Mahachi Bounces Back

A lot has changed since Kuda Mahachi last stepped on the Cape Coast Stadium pitch.

The nimble-footed winger came on a second half substitute for the Warriors, in their 1-3 defeat to Ghana in a World Cup qualifier at the 15 000-seater facility on October 9, 2021.

He was still at DStv Premiership side SuperSport United and was a regular in the Zimbabwe national team.

But child abuse allegations put the Bulawayo-raised star’s career in jeopardy and SuperSport even suspended him because of the scandal.

Like a phoenix though, Mahachi has risen and his career appears to be back on track, after he joined defending Ghanaian Premier League champions Medeama FC —becoming the first Zimbabwean to sign for a club in the West African country.

Mahachi is likely to make his debut for Medeama when they host Nigerian side Remo Stars in the CAF Champions League preliminary round on Sunday.

He is eager to finally play football again.

“As new players, we need to work hard and follow what they did last year. In everything there is competition, and as a player, you need to work hard for your place to play,” Mahachi told Ghanaian media.-Soccer24 News

Chigumba Admits Rigging Elections

By NewsHawks- After telling election observers that the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) has given local authority, National Assembly and presidential election candidates copies of the ward, constituency and national voters’ roll copies, respectively, Zec chairperson Priscilla Chigumba openly yet inadvertently confirmed that the elections management body and herself have been acting illegally.

Section 20(4a) of the Electoral Act clearly provides that: The Commission may prepare and maintain, in printed or electronic form, a consolidated NATIONAL VOTERS ROLL and a consolidated VOTERS ROLL for any CONSTITUENCY or WARD, but such rolls SHALL NOT BE USED FOR THE PURPOSES OF POLLING IN ANY ELECTION. As Professor Jonathan Moyo puts it, “therefore, it is clear that by electoral law the ward, constituency and national voters rolls are useless for the purposes of polling in any election. “Why then did ZEC give candidates useless voters rolls, which are not prescribed for the purposes of polling in any election? A useful voters roll is by definition one that is used for the purposes of polling, and nothing else. In the circumstances, and for the avoidance of doubt, the only useful voters roll for the purposes of polling in any election is the polling station voters roll! If a registered voter wants to check whether his or her name is on the voters roll, they check the polling station voters roll and no other voters roll!”

CCC Namibia Rundu Branch Celebrates Anniversary In August Since Its Inception

18 August 2023

The Vibrant Branch was formed on the 25th of July and launched on the 10th of August 2019 at Rundu Junior Primary School in the local town. It was pioneered by ardent change advocates who felt that geographical location was never a political barrier for them to actively participate in the national discourse. Among these diligent revolutionaries were the interim chair Fidelis Goto, vice Causemore Chiweshe, Sg Leon Feya, Organ Simbarashe Ndoda, and Spokesperson Robson Ruhanya.

Despite what seemed to be a flop on the initial day, the determination doubled, and the number multiplied in the meeting held a week later. Change seekers showed great enthusiasm in prosecuting the national democratic revolution to its logical conclusion, targeting 2023 harmonized elections. It is quite exhilarating that Rundu Branch has achieved its goals as agreed on the day it was launched.

On the 10th of August 2019, the district council descended from the capital of Windhoek to grace the historic launch of an organic branch. We salute the interim district Chair Elisha Chambara alongside Tapiwa Tapshinda Mugore who made it easier for us to become part of the external assemblies that subscribe to the yellow revolution. Since its inception, the branch has been consistent in demanding freedom, justice, and equality in Zimbabwe. The organic branch has managed to contribute morally, materially, and financially to the national cause assisting the foot soldiers on the ground.

The Rundu branch celebrates its capability to do everything to win Zimbabwe for change. From formation, the leadership has been busy mobilizing, recruiting, and radicalizing desperate citizens in the diaspora for a complete change in a New Great Zimbabwe led by President Advocate Nelson Chamisa. As a branch, we are fortunate to have passionate leaders such as the interim chair Simbarashe Ndoda. His determination to see a transformed motherland is incredible. Right now citizens are geared to vote big, win big, and protect big!

Rundu Branch comprehends that August is a special month, it is a victory month! 23 August shall present to us the victory of our lives. As an external assembly, so far we have managed to offer solidarity in cash and kindness to some political prisoners who are caged on concocted charges such as Job Saro Wiwa Sikhala, etc. We know that ZANU-PF arbitrarily arrest and illegally convicts change champions as well as human rights defenders to put them on mute. Job Saro Wiwa Sikhala has been incarcerated since the 14th of June 2022 to date on frivolous charges, we demand justice for Wiwa and all prisoners of conscience.

Our commitment and dedication to vote big, win big, and defend big is a clear sign of the desire for good governance in Zimbabwe. Barely 4 days before the historic elections, Rundu Branch celebrates its capacity to contribute financially and materially towards polling agents in our twin, Uzumba. We have also managed to donate to six polling stations in Mudzi West through the Citizens Agents Platform. Our organic interim chairperson Simbarashe Ndoda and Sec General Lawrence Chiduku are busy mobilizing funds to support polling stations in red zones.

Apart from Uzumba and Mudzi West, Rundu Branch interim chair has paid heed to the revolutionary call for assistance in Gokwe, Zaka South Ward 20 only to mention but a few. The pragmatic branch is determined to participate in the National Democratic struggle until victory. On the 23rd of August, Rundu Branch shall be represented in various parts of the tea-pot-shaped country. It is now imperative to gear up for dangerous freedom against state repression.

The interim Secretary General, Lawrence Chiduku appreciated the extraordinary energy displayed by the great members of the Rundu branch. Citizens have sacrificed time and money for everyone. We have seen them subscribing every month to support the fight against the ZANU PF dictatorship in the fatherland. The Rundu branch demands free, fair, credible, and unfettered elections. We urge the regime to stop its capture of the state. Chitsunge murderers are out on bail but Job Saro Wiwa Sikhala has spent more than 365 days jailed at Chikurubi Maximum Security Prison. We shall continue to condemn this weaponization of the judiciary by the clueless, unpopular, and incompetent regime.

In a nutshell, we urge all change champions across the globe to go, vote big, and defend big. The people of Zimbabwe should not be deterred by politically inept Nick Mangwana. Defending the vote is our duty! We should make sure that polling agents are made available at every polling station. Roving agents must be always on alert. Citizens are tired of unemployment, gross abuse of human rights, looting, corruption, mineral smuggling, and nepotism. Those who are in the diaspora are victims of family disintegration, they deserve reintegration under the able leadership of the People’s President, Nelson Chamisa.

Let’s all vote against the senseless and barefaced corruption exhibited in the Gold Mafia. Let’s vote against politically motivated violence on the 23rd of August. We should do everything democratic and constitutional to win Zimbabwe for socio-economic transfiguration.

What You Need To Know Sexual Exploitation

Tackling all forms of sexual misconduct

Sexual misconduct – exploitation, sexual abuse, sexual harassment (SEAH), sexual violence – by our personnel violates the rights and well-being of the people we serve and the people with whom we serve. Such behaviours are directly in opposition to WHO’s values and our abiding responsibility to do no harm.

Sexual exploitation and abuse (SEA) of the populations we serve, and sexual harassment (SH) of our own workforce require similar prevention and response approaches because they stem from the same power differentials, inequities, drivers, and risks. Using the umbrella term, sexual misconduct, clarifies that these acts pertain to the WHO workforce, are prohibited, and therefore lead to disciplinary action.

WHO has zero tolerance for any form of sexual misconduct, for inaction and for retaliation against those who raise complaints or bear witness. Our work prioritizes the rights and needs of victims and survivors.

In 2021, WHO launched an intense period of prevention and response actions following the harrowing accounts of victims and survivors of SEA during the 10th Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo encapsulated in the Management Response Plan that concluded in December 2023. To build on and institutionalize this progress, our future work is framed by the three-year strategy for preventing and responding to sexual misconduct.

Citizens Unstoppable

President Nelson Chamisa’s marathon campaign programme continues…

President Chamisa on Twitter :

MASHONALAND CENTRAL EXCITES…I’m in Guruve and Mbire. They tried intimidating the citizens but it just couldn’t work. The police cancelled and banned our otherwise fully subscribed rally in Mvurwi. The panic is real! The Citizens are unstoppable!! #ForEveryone #Godisinit

CCC statement on current political situation…

Our cluster rallies, which were scheduled to take place on Friday, August 18, 2023, at Kandeya Village business center and Dotito in Mt Darwin, have been denied by the @PoliceZimbabwe. These denials come under controversial reasons, as they claim that the venues are already occupied on the same date. It is evident that this is a systematic approach employed by the regime in Harare to prevent the Citizens movement and its President, Nelson Chamisa, from engaging with the people. Sadly, these are just some of over 105 rallies and meetings that have been banned on false pretenses and yet we are in the election season. ZANU PF is running scared and can never win a free and fair election in Zimbabwe

NGOs In Plot To Remove Zanu PF – Mutsvangwa

The ruling ZANU PF party has warned non-governmental organisations against interfering with the country’s electoral process.

Addressing the media at the party’s headquarters in Harare this Thursday, ZANU PF Secretary for Information and Publicity, Ambassador Christopher Mutsvangwa said non-governmental organisations working in cahoots with opposition parties should desist from meddling or interfering in the country’s electoral process.

“We hear of certain organisations which want to purvey the CCC position and they want to direct Africa and the SADC observer missions on what they should be doing. This is presumptuous of those NGOs. They are not substitutes for observer missions which are here,” he said.

Ambassador Mutsvangwa said the invitation to foreign observer missions attests to the country’s openness and transparency in its electoral process.

He added, “We have invited observers from everywhere. We have nothing to hide. We are prepared to let observers come and see Zimbabweans exercise their democratic rights. Delegations from AU and SADC are in the country. They don’t need surrogates.”

Several observers which include the SADC Observer Mission, Commonwealth Observer Mission and the European Union Observer Mission are already in the country ahead of the general elections set for Wednesday next week.-ZBC News

Teachers And Elections In Zimbabwe

General elections are held after every 5 years according to the Constitution of Zimbabwe. Pre and Post election season has always been dominated by a lot of political activities in the society throughout the history of elections in Zimbabwe. The build up to election season has always gripped the nation with a lot of anxiety and expectations. Criticail sectors such as the Military, Police, CIO , Teachers e. t. c all have played a role in Zimbabwean elections.

Focusing more about the involvement of teachers in the elections includes the pre-election season, the actual election voting season and post election season.

The pre election season includes activities like political campaigns voter education and any other activities related to elections. Teachers have been taking a major role in Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) activities such as Voter Education, Voter Inspection, this has been traditionally done through the process of Secondment where teachers will be seconded to go and get trained by ZEC officials and then after training be deployed to carry out ZEC duties on an allowance reward basis.

Politicians of participating political parties in particular ZANU PF enjoys having most of their political rallies at schools, they also enjoy seating in tents at those rallies seeing school children standing in front entertaining them through poems dramma and any other form of entertainment . All the rehearsals of these entertainment activities provided by school kids will have been carried out by teachers who are instructed to do so by educational officials such as Headmasters , District Schools Inspectors and Provincial Schools Inspectors also at the instruction of political bigwigs.

When learning is disrupted when schools provides venue for a political rallies teachers are forced to attend of which failure to attend these rallies especially in politically volatile areas will result with intimidation of teachers from political players, this year it has been worsened by the emergency of ZANU PF extended political outfit called Teachers4ED. As such one can conclude that teacher involvement in the build up to the election period is cohesive and pursuasive participation.

During the actual election voting season teachers play a more pivotal role as election officials. This is the period where the bulk number of teachers will be deployed as polling officers, presiding officers, Ward election officers e.t.c. There is no way that ZEC would opt not to recruit teachers during this phase of elections considering the total number of polling stations across the country against the required knowledgeable technical manpower required.

Such duties from Zec comes with allowances for our poorly remunerated teachers . Indeed it will be an extra Income to boost the salary and that is the reason why ZEC take advantage of and can even pay teachers allowance for their services even three months after the process in RTGS rates as well. Apart from the fact that ZEC takes advantage of the current man made poverty on teachers in paying them it is also on record that whenever the call for list of teachers to be submitted to ZEC has been made for secondment and deployment , teachers will still stamped to make sure that their names are submitted for consideration.

In some instances when deployment is made ZEC can consider deploying even teachers outside their voting boundaries such as another wards which will result in limiting one’s access to vote. In 2018 General Elections Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union Of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ) made a High Court application challenging this anomally and the Court ordered that ZEC should provide transport for teachers to be able to go and vote in their respective voting areas .

*On Election Outcome*: the election outcome and involvement of teacher is disturbing and worrisome. The reason being that the involvement of teachers in election is not centred on substance based election outcome.

Substance based election outcome participation must be backed by ideological policy based outcome promises which spearheads positive change in the educational sector such as increased access to inclusive education, legislative law alignment process with specific interest to labour laws, dignified and decent salaries as enshrined in the Constitution of Zimbabwe.

The Politicians in Zimbabwe have a challenge that they think that they are super human beings who thinks on behalf of others hence they see no need to consult. These politicians sell their manifesto as if they are home made products at bus stop terminus, with sectors such as teachers not giving in any input to the ingredients of the nature of product that will be consumed by them . If teachers are real customers in any election outcome product then focus must be centred on the ingredients of the product .

The onus is upon the teachers to demand credible and substance based election participation.

Mutsvangwa Sends Chilling Warning To NGOs

Margaret Dongo Endorses Chamisa

By A Correspondent| Outspoken liberation war heroin and former Zimbabwe Union of Democrats leader, Margaret Dongo, has publicly endorsed opposition Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa ahead of next week’s crunch harmonised elections.

In a short video recording in which the former guerilla fighter drapes a yellow dress signifying CCC’s colour theme, she raises her index finger, the opposition party’s trademark symbol in clear endorsement of the party.

She goes on to tell viewers “Ngaapinde Hake Mukomana” loosely translated to mean vote for Chamisa into office.

It is uncharacteristic of an ex-combatant such as Dongo to go against the grain and not support fellow war veteran, President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Dongo, whose Chimurenga name was Tichaona Muhondo, rose to prominence during the Mugabe era being heavily involved in politics between 1990 and 2000. She was elected parliamentarian on a Zanu-PF ticket initially before she contested as an independent.

In the first instance she lost the election but successfully challenged the results in court represented by Tendai Biti, she went on to win the election re-run becoming the first independent MP in post-independence Zimbabwe.

Her run as an independent candidate was necessitated by the fact that she had been dropped by Zanu-PF, apparently for not towing the party line.

According to archives, Dongo dropped out of school aged 15 to go for military training in Mozambique.

She joined the liberation struggle in 1975, and received military training at Chimoio Military Training Camp and eventually served in the Tete Province, offering assistance to injured combatants.

After independence, she served in the President’s Office as an intelligence field officer between 1983 and 1990.

Dongo, who is no longer politically active, claims there have been several assassination attempts on her life, with the most scary being the torching of her Ridgeview home in early January 2016.

War veterans, ex-detainees, restrictees and collaborators lament the neglect of their welfare by Mnangagwa’s regime, which has not reviewed allowances to match hyperinflation.

Chris Maroleng Opens Up After Deportation From Zim

“Participating in this election is an act of foolish bravery” warned Mwonzora. True but has Cassandra’s curse, no one believes him.

By Wilbert Mukori- ”Participating in this election is an act of foolish bravery,” warned Douglas Mwonzora.

“This election is stacked against the opposition; already, laws are being changed as the election process is going on.

“There is selective application of the law; some people are being arrested, some people are not being arrested.”

The irony of ironies; he is right but no one believes him!

Of course, it is foolish to participate in elections so flawed there is no verified voters’ roll, election officials are bribed, etc., etc. Mwonzora’s cursed question which he must answer to be believed is: all these things were true all along, you ignored them, so why are you only seeing them now?

MDC’s two greatest failures were:

  1. failing to implement even one meaningful democratic reform during the 2008 to 2013 GNU because of greed and breath-taking incompetence
  1. after the GNU debacle they have participated in the flawed elections to give Zanu PF legitimacy for the same reasons they failed to implement reforms.

All the MDC leaders including Nelson Chamisa, Tendai Biti, David Coltart, Welshman Ncube Douglas Mwonzora and the party’s founding father, the late Morgan Tsvangirai were involved in all the above treasonous betrayals.

For the record, Mwonzora was not the first MDC leader to admit that participating in these flawed elections was a futile exercise. Tendai Biti and David Coltart have said the same thing.

“Look, you can’t keep on participating in flawed electoral processes that serve to give big benefits to dictators such as Robert Mugabe. Mugabe has perfected the art of winning elections. So it will be very foolish for the opposition to continue legitimising these sham elections which don’t deliver. This country will go through a serious economic crisis in 2020 caused by Zanu PF. And yet, this is the only country where a government doesn’t perform, it is encouraged by a super majority in parliament,” said Tendai Biti in a 2015 interview with Isaac Mugabi.

“So you can’t continue subjecting Zimbabweans to processes where their hopes just get crushed.”

Coltart went one step further and explained why MDC leaders have participated in these flawed elections – greed.

“The (2013) electoral process was so flawed, so illegal, that the only logical step was to withdraw, which would compel SADC to hold Zanu PF to account. But such was the distrust between the MDC-T and MDC-N that neither could withdraw for fear that the other would remain in the elections, winning seats and giving the process credibility,” confessed David Coltart in his Book, The Struggle Continues 50 years of Tyranny in Zimbabwe.

MDC membership, the wildebeest herd, has failed, even to this day with the benefit of hindsight, to understand what the reforms are much less how they were to be implemented. And so the herd has never comprehended the seriousness of the MDC’s treasonous betrayal of the nation’s cause to end the Zanu PF dictatorship.

Still, the herd knows the dictatorship is still here and making their lives hell and in its infantile wisdom the herd has singled out Douglas Mwonzora and the few others around him to blame for all MDC’s failures. Mwonzora et al are the fall guys whilst Nelson Chamisa, Tendai Biti and the others who switched to join Chamisa are the innocent and infallible angels.

Poor Mwonzora he is now speaking the truth but has Cassandra’s curse, the King of Troy’s daughter in Greek mythology; who had the gift of foresee but was cursed so no one believed her. Mwonzora is now speaking the truth, after decades of blatant lying and indifference, because he is desperate to remain relevant now that he has been cast out. Like it or not he is now totally, totally irrelevant!

Zimbabwean Cricketers Shine In SA

ZIMBABWE’S emerging cricket players are having a decent showing in South Africa, proving that they have what it takes to compete on the global stage after giving their South African counterparts a run for their money.

The Roy Kaia-captained emerging squad is faring well on South African soil where they are playing their counterparts in an unofficial five-match one-day series in Pretoria.

Zimbabwe is maximising on the tour to gain all-round experience as South Africa is well-up in terms of its game, ranking sixth on the One Day International standings, five places above Zimbabwe.

With the tour significant in Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC)’s strategic plan, the emerging players have proven to be a force to reckon with, taking the ascendency by claiming a one-nil lead in the first tie of the five-match series with a six-wicket victory on Sunday.

Joylord Gumbie, Milton Shumba and Clive Madande all scored half-centuries in the victory while Tanaka Chivanga and Brandon Mavuta shared seven wickets between them.

Mavuta, who leads the wickets column in the series was equally outstanding with the ball Tuesday claiming four scalps before scoring 68 runs in Zimbabwe’s 19-run defeat to the hosts.

Once again 22-year-old Madande put on a decent show with the bat, scoring 40-runs to lead the batting leaderboard while Wesley Madhevere joined the act with 55 runs as Zimbabwe emerging fell just short of the 295 runs scored by their neighbours to level the series.

Four-Zimbabwean batsmen lead the top five while two bowlers are among the top-three wicket-takers in the series as the Zimbabweans are going toe to toe with their neighbours.

Meanwhile, having recorded a victory apiece, the rivals will battle to take the lead in the next match pencilled for Friday in Pretoria.

SADC Slams George Charamba Over Abuse Of Its Logo

By A Correspondent | Gaborone, Botswana – The Southern African Development Community (SADC) has strongly criticized the unauthorized use of its logo in a recent news article titled “Stray and we will deport you: Charamba warns election observers.” In a statement released today, SADC expressed its deep concern over the misrepresentation of its brand image.

The article, published by the Herald Newspaper of Zimbabwe and available on the “newsdzezimbabwe” website, included an image of an individual adorned in SADC Election Observation Mission (SEOM) attire. The story alleges that foreign election observers deployed to Zimbabwe for the upcoming elections on August 23, 2023, have ulterior motives and a pro-opposition agenda.

SADC Secretary-General underscored that the individuals and institutions mentioned in the article are not associated with SADC or its official election observation mission. The utilization of the SADC logo alongside this narrative falsely associates the organization with observers alleged to be interfering in Zimbabwe’s electoral processes.

This misuse of the SADC brand image not only places the organization in an unfavorable light but also has the potential to jeopardize the safety of SADC personnel. The Secretariat called for immediate corrective action to rectify this situation and ensure that the public is not misled by false connections.

SADC remains committed to upholding the integrity of its brand and its vital role in fostering regional cooperation and development. The organization urges all stakeholders to accurately represent its efforts and refrain from using its logo for misleading purposes.

Security Guard Arrested for Theft at DHL

BULAWAYO, August 18, 2023 — In a shocking turn of events, a security guard based in Bulawayo has been apprehended by the local police for allegedly engaging in unlawful entry and theft at the DHL main offices situated in the city center. The accused, identified as Malvin Chimange, a 26-year-old resident of the Entumbane suburb, was employed as a security guard at the very same DHL offices where the incidents occurred.

Bulawayo police spokesperson, Inspector Abednico Ncube, confirmed the arrest and provided further details on the case. According to Insp Ncube’s statement, the accused, Chimange, reportedly carried out the illegal activities over a span of one month, from July 2023 to August 2023. During this period, Chimange allegedly employed unknown means to access the company’s restricted premises.

“During the period from 3 July 2023 up to 15 August 2023, the accused person was breaking into the offices using unknown means,” revealed Insp Ncube. “While inside, he was targeting cash from different offices. Firstly, he stole US$315-00 from the first office, the money was inside a drawer. He went on to the next office and took US$600-00. On another date, the accused person used the same style of breaking in and stole US$900-00 and ZAR 2 400-00 from another office.”

The breakthrough in the case came when the company reviewed CCTV footage on August 11, 2023. The footage allegedly showed Chimange stealing the money, leading to his subsequent arrest.

“On the 11th of August 2023, the CCTV footage was viewed and it showed the accused person stealing the money, leading to his arrest,” explained Insp Ncube. “A total value of US$1 815-00 and ZAR 2 400-00 was stolen, and USD 1 460-00 and ZAR 2 400-00 were recovered.”

As a result of this incident, local authorities are urging companies to remain vigilant against potential inside job crimes. Inspector Abednico Ncube emphasized the importance of companies taking additional measures to safeguard their premises against such actions.

“As police, we urge companies to guard against inside job crimes; clearly these crimes were committed by someone who was supposed to guard the premises,” stated Insp Ncube.

The accused, Malvin Chimange, is now facing charges related to unlawful entry and theft, and the case is set to be further investigated by the relevant authorities.

For now, this shocking incident serves as a reminder of the need for heightened security measures within workplaces to prevent similar occurrences in the future. The authorities are committed to maintaining the safety and integrity of businesses across the region.- state media

Nelson Chamisa’s Crowd Captivating Mutoko Speech

By Dorrothy Moyo | In a powerful and impassioned address at the Mutoko Rally, opposition leader Nelson Chamisa outlined an ambitious vision for the future of Mutoko, captivating the crowd with his promises for economic transformation and equitable development. Speaking before an engaged audience, Chamisa laid out a comprehensive plan to uplift the region and address key concerns voiced by the local populace.

Chamisa began by highlighting the importance of Mutoko’s granite minerals, pledging that under his leadership, no granite minerals would leave the region without undergoing thorough value addition and beneficiation processes. This commitment, he argued, would not only ensure that the local resources contribute significantly to the region’s economy but also create more job opportunities for the community.

One of the key focal points of Chamisa’s speech was the revitalization of market gardening in Mutoko. He emphasized his dedication to promoting and supporting local market gardening endeavors, and his plan to establish industries that process the region’s agricultural products, including prized crops like tomatoes. This approach, Chamisa explained, would not only bolster the local economy but also provide a foundation for sustainable growth.

Touching on the contentious issue of mineral discovery and its potential impact on communities, Chamisa vowed to prevent any illegal displacement of people from their ancestral lands due to such discoveries. He expressed a strong commitment to consulting with landowners in areas where mineral deposits are found and ensuring fair compensation for those affected.

In a move to restore the dignity of traditional leaders, Chamisa promised to prohibit the political installation of Chiefs, asserting that such decisions should be made by the clan. He also underscored the importance of fair allocation of vending markets, free from political influence, and pledged to create additional vending markets to bolster local businesses.

The MATURA initiative, which Chamisa outlined, aims to uplift rural Mutoko through comprehensive economic and social strategies. The leader urged locals to vote for his party, the CCC, as the driving force behind the transformation he envisions. With a resounding call for economic change that benefits all, Chamisa concluded his speech by invoking a vision of Mutoko that is prosperous, inclusive, and stands as a testament to the power of unified action and collective progress.

ZRP Cop Arrested

In a shocking incident that has sent shockwaves through the community, a police officer stationed at Fairbridge Police Camp has been arrested for an alleged act of brutality. The officer in question, identified as Gerald Zhou, is facing serious charges after he was accused of dragging a woman, Nyembesi Mafanele, with his car for a disturbing distance.

According to sources familiar with the situation, Mafanele, who is employed as a general hand at Fairbridge Police Camp, had reportedly been involved in a dispute with Zhou, who works in the Support Unit Section of the police. Despite their apparent disagreement, Mafanele found herself in a harrowing situation when she accepted a ride from Zhou.

The troubling incident reportedly took place when Zhou and Mafanele were at a bus stop. Zhou allegedly stopped his car, and Mafanele began to disembark. However, things took a terrifying turn when Zhou suddenly accelerated the vehicle while Mafanele was still holding on to the door, desperately pleading with him to stop. Despite her cries, Zhou purportedly continued to drive, dragging Mafanele for a distance of more than five meters.

The horrifying ordeal resulted in Mafanele losing her grip and being violently thrown to the ground. The impact caused her to sustain injuries, including a disfigured finger and injuries to her face. Thankfully, a Good Samaritan was quick to assist and rushed her to United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH) for medical attention.

Following the incident and the subsequent report to authorities, Gerald Zhou was apprehended and is now facing a grave charge of attempted murder. He is expected to stand trial before a Bulawayo regional magistrate to address the allegations brought against him. The incident has left the community stunned and has ignited conversations about the conduct and accountability of law enforcement officers.

As this case unfolds, local residents and advocates are looking to the legal system for justice, hoping that the accused officer will be held accountable for his actions.- state media

Holy Ten Confidently Advertises Book That Exposes Mnangagwa As Just A Rhodesian Spy, Nothing More

By Farai D Hove | Is it laziness, or ignorance, or both? The musician Holy Ten perhaps displayed his levels yesterday when he advertised the Emmerson Mnangagwa biography that exposes the ZANU PF leader as a Rhodesian Spy who never fought in the Chimurenga war, did not bomb any train, and there’s not even a bird of the forest that he shot down against the Ian Smith regime.

Holy Ten while campaigning for the ZANU PF coup leader over the upcoming 2023 elections may have been unaware that the biography he is showing off, is the most authoritative revelation to date that Mnangagwa is a fake comrade of the nation’s black people’s fight for liberation.

Eddie Cross

Emmerson Mnangagwa’s publicist, and authorised biographer, Eddie Cross exposed the ZANU PF coup leader for falsifying that he was sentenced to death for bombing a Rhodesian train, revelations which correlate with others by senior veterans who showcase how Mnangagwa is in the class of the gun totting former British South Africa Police reserve cop Phillip Chiyangwa.

Cross reveals with impecable evidence that Mnangagwa did not bomb any property, and he was spared the death penalty because his crime was not that serious, Oxford academic, Miles Tendi breaks this down.

Mnangagwa as he authorised the biography that exposes him for lying

Cross’ biography corrects falsifications of significant episodes in Mnangagwa’s life story, writes Tendi.

He continues saying: One example will suffice. Mnangagwa, in The Sunday Mail of 22 February 2015, narrated that he was spared the death penalty in 1965 for using explosives to cause damage to a railway engine, as part of early liberation struggle sabotage campaigns. According to Mnangagwa in 2015: “the age of majority then was 21. I was below 21, so I escaped the noose. My colleagues were, however, hanged”.

Cross corrects this account by reproducing the High Court of Rhodesia’s 1965 sentence in the biography.

The High Court’s sentence reads: the court accepts “the fact that you are 18 years and seven months old. That being so, in terms of this section of the Law and Order (Maintenance) Act, the court has a discretion as to whether to impose upon you the death penalty or to send you to prison for a period up to a maximum of 20 years. Generally speaking, it seems to me that where the Court has a discretion in dealing with an offender under the age of 19, the death penalty is appropriate for the worst type of case where, for example, petrol bombs have been cold-bloodedly and deliberately thrown into residential buildings occupied by persons causing them misery and suffering. This is not such a case, although it is a serious crime according to law. I do not therefore propose to sentence you to death in this case”.

Thus, contrary to Mnangagwa’s longstanding claim he was spared death because he was underage, Mnangagwa was in fact not sentenced to death in 1965 because his crime was considered by the judge as not grave enough to warrant hanging. Cross deserves commendation for setting the historical record straight in this instance.

FULL TEXT:

This authorised biography tells the life history of Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa, from childhood to presidency. The biography is 153 pages long. It consists of a foreword, an editor’s note by Rachel Jambaya, 30 brief chapters, and a conclusion.

The biographer, Eddie Graham Cross, is an economist, a regular commentator on public affairs and former Secretary for Economic Affairs in the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC), a party he left in 2018 after 19 years of serving in a range of executive positions at national level. Cross drew on personal interviews with Mnangagwa in order to complete the biography.

Cross has written a controversial biography of Mnangagwa.

The biography depicts vice president Constantino Chiwenga, the former general who helped bring Mnangagwa to power in a military coup in 2017, in an unfavourable light. It is also replete with conspicuous historical distortions and silences. Nonetheless, the biography does have some strengths, such as its presentation of the true version of certain important events in Mnangagwa’s life.

Cross’s corrections bring to light Mnangagwa’s mythomania. Mnangagwa penned the biography’s foreword, graced its official presentation on 5 August 2021, delightedly signed copies of the book at the launch and he did not publicly rebut any of the biography’s contents. Consequently, it is fair to conclude that Mnangagwa wholly endorses his biographer’s work.

‘Military figures’

Cross writes that following Mnangagwa’s inauguration as president of Zimbabwe on 24 November 2017, “he set about selecting a new cabinet and senior staff in the president’s office. This was complicated by the demands being made by the senior military officers who had carried out what became known as the military assisted transition (military coup). Chief among these was the commander of the armed forces, General Chiwenga”.

Cross adds that Mnangagwa’s first cabinet “received mixed reviews” partly because it contained “too many military figures”.

Elsewhere in the biography, Cross states Mnangagwa “replaced General Chiwenga with General Philip Sibanda” as commander of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces and he avers that Sibanda is “possibly the best soldier in southern Africa and a man that was deeply respected in the army. Mnangagwa’s actions drew little attention but what the president was doing was closing the door on any possibility of the military assisted transition (military coup) being repeated. He needed to know that the security services were led by men in whom he had confidence as professionals”.

Additionally, Cross maintains that when violence and looting occurred in January 2019, the acting President Chiwenga “demanded that a state of emergency be declared and martial law be introduced. This would have effectively meant that the armed forces took over the administration of the state”. However, Cross continues, “General Sibanda refused. He said his orders from the President were clear. What had happened was that the President had stamped his personal authority on the state. He would not tolerate any challenge”.

‘Hardliners’

Cross makes reference to “hardliners” (Chiwenga ostensibly) who, before the July 2018 election, “argued that reforms to the electoral system and any relaxation of controls over the media and civil society would have serious impact on the ability of ZANU PF to win the election.

Moreover, Cross contends that a grenade thrown at Mnangagwa on 23 June 2018 during a ZANU PF rally at White City stadium in Bulawayo “was of Chinese origin and in use by the Zimbabwe National Army”.

Chiwenga was present at the White City rally and his wife Marry sustained injuries from the blast but Cross, curiously, does not mention this. Of the two vice presidents, only Kembo Mohadi is identified as present at the rally and as having sustained injuries along with 47 others.

From the foregoing, Cross appears to be casting aspersions on Chiwenga as a political operator. His biography suggests that Mnangagwa and Chiwenga are ill at ease with each other. Cross typecasts Chiwenga as obstructing political and economic reforms and as in favour of repressive and militarised state responses such as martial law. He intimates that Sibanda is a more “professional” soldier than Chiwenga who Mnangagwa trusts will not carry out a coup – a contentious assertion, given that Sibanda participated in the 2017 coup.

Corrections

Let me now turn to some of the ways in which the biography corrects falsifications of significant episodes in Mnangagwa’s life story. One example will suffice.

Cross-checking

Although Cross debunks some of Mnangagwa’s mythomania, he too is a mythomaniac. For example, Cross writes that Mnangagwa “was designated as one of the leaders” of the crocodile gang in the 1960s and insinuates that Mnangagwa was involved in the killing of Pieter Oberholzer in Chimanimani in 1964. Mnangagwa was, of course, not a member of the crocodile gang and he was not implicated in Oberholzer’s killings, as scholarly works by Baxter Tavuyanago and Terence Ranger show.

Cross’s expertise as an economist encumbered his ability to generate a credible biography of Mnangagwa. Trained economists should probably stick to writing about economics, not liberation, military and political histories, which are beyond their knowledge.

For instance, Cross refers to the Zimbabwe People’s Revolutionary Army (ZIPRA) as the ‘Zimbabwe Independent People’s Revolutionary Army’.

In 1978, ZIPRA shot down two Rhodesian Viscount planes but Cross writes that the downing occurred in 1962 and, erroneously, uses it as an example of how the “guerrilla war was gaining momentum”.

Furthermore, according to Cross, in 1975 Herbert Chitepo was “assassinated in what is suspected as inter party violence and conflict”. This is a bizarre contention since the competing views on Chitepo’s assassination are that it was the result of an intra ZANU conflict or that the Rhodesian security forces carried out the hit. Is Cross suggesting, through the statement ‘inter party conflict’, that ZAPU assassinated Chitepo?

What is the evidence for this?

Zimbabwe entered the second Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) war to assist Laurent Kabila to fend off a rebel insurgency in 1998, but Cross, incorrectly, writes that Zimbabwe intervened “to support the campaign by Laurent Desire Kabila to take power from the long standing dictator Mobutu Sese Seko”.

What is more, the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) was created through the merger of three rival armies – the Rhodesian army, ZANLA and ZIPRA but Cross, speciously, writes that five armies merged to form the ZNA.

Silences

Then there are the biography’s historical silences.

Despite crediting Mnangagwa as having taken charge of operations during the late 1990s DRC war, Cross is silent about United Nations and non-governmental organisation reports about corruption during Zimbabwe’s involvement in the second DRC war.

Cross also seeks to downplay the role of Mnangagwa and the CIO in the 1980s Gukurahundi. Cross would have us believe that Mugabe’s instructions on Gukurahundi only went directly to "the 5th Brigade and to the Ministry Of Home Affairs and the Police on the ground" and excluded CIO, which fell under Mnangagwa’s Security Ministry.

Yet, as the CCJPZ report Breaking The Silence: Report On The Disturbances in Matabeleland and Midlands discloses, CIO was in fact central to Gukurahundi operations and it functioned from within Mugabe’s office. Cross is also silent about Mnangagwa’s role in the strong March to June 2008 political violence.

Cross’s writing radiates colonial overtones.

The scholar Kristen Harkness points out that “British martial race doctrine, developed first in colonial India, stipulated that some ethnic groups were naturally more suited to combat and military discipline than others. Once groups were classified as martial they were preferentially recruited into the British colonial forces”.

It is precisely this colonial martial race doctrine that underlies Cross’s unevidenced contention that Mnangagwa was recruited in ZAPU in 1962 partly because of “his potential from a military point of view given his Karanga tribal background and physique” – the implication being that Karangas are “naturally more suited to combat”.

Indeed, Cross largely understands the politics and history of Africans through colonial tropes like “tribes” and “tribalism”. Never mind that the notion of “tribe” is, today, bereft of analytical purchase because it lacks a sense of social scale and complexity and it presupposes savagery, primitiveness, irrational violence and ancient hatreds in Africans.

A final important silence concerns Mnangagwa’s personal dimension. Bar his early family history, we get no real sense of who Mnangagwa is today, his actual character away from political performance and the composition of his immediate family, making for a rather impersonal biography.

The wives of politicians matter. Who is Auxillia Mnangagwa and how has she impacted Mnangagwa’s personal and political trajectories? What are the ideas, thinkers or books that have shaped Mnangagwa’s political outlooks?

Perhaps Cross will care to address these crucial questions and the aforementioned shortcomings in a second edition of his biography of Mnangagwa.

Tsanzaguru Fight Over Prostitute Kills One

In a harrowing incident that unfolded last Friday, a dispute over the attentions of a sex worker led to a fatal stabbing in Tsanzaguru, Rusape. Liberty Masibi stands accused of fatally stabbing Charles Ngara as tensions escalated in the rivalry for the woman’s company. Reports indicate that the altercation transpired at Manditanga Night Club, where Masibi was accompanied by a friend. Ngara was also present, sharing drinks with the sex worker, known only as Maria.

A disagreement between Masibi and Ngara over Maria quickly escalated into a physical confrontation. Eyewitnesses recount that the brawl spilled out of the bar and onto the streets, where Masibi reportedly produced a knife and inflicted a deep stab wound to Ngara’s thigh. The severity of the injury caused Ngara to bleed profusely, prompting concerned patrons to intervene.

Both men were rushed to Tsanzaguru Clinic, from where they were subsequently transferred to Rusape General Hospital. Tragically, Ngara succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.

Masibi was promptly apprehended by the police while still at the hospital. Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Norbert Muzondo, referred media outlets to national police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi for more information.

However, at the time of reporting, Assistant Commissioner Nyathi was unavailable for comment. The incident has left the community shaken, highlighting the dangers of such altercations and underscoring the need for conflict resolution mechanisms.

As the investigation unfolds, the community mourns the loss of a life and the harrowing circumstances that led to this tragedy.- State Media
