Armed Robbers Trigger Alarm, Flea

By A Correspondent- When one of four balaclava-clad armed robbers attacked him on the back of his head, he smelt blood and almost counted himself dead.

This happened in Pumula South suburb in Bulawayo this week on Tuesday where a security guard was brutally attacked while guarding a network booster.

According to a source close to the case, the four robbers were travelling in a black Honda Fit and they parked it a few metres from the network booster.

They were armed with a knife, iron rod and an axe and they arrived at the scene shortly after midnight.

he source said they manhandled him before one of the gang members struck him with an iron rod on the back of his head while another one landed a fist on his face and head.

“He tumbled to the ground and they quickly tied his hands to his feet with a wire and he was bleeding in the process.

“One of the robbers remained monitoring him while the other three dashed to the booster and struck it with an axe but their mission failed after one of them mistakenly touched an alarm causing it to ring forcing them to flee in their car,” said the source.

After a few minutes the security company’s response team arrived at the scene and untied the attacked security guard.

“While they were at the scene they received a phone call that the same robbers travelling in a black Honda Fit had attacked another security guard at a booster in Nkulumane 12 suburb.

“The response team rushed there and found the robbers and upon seeing the reaction team they fled. The response team deflated tyres of their vehicle and reported the incident to the police,” said the source.

Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the incident and appealed for information that could lead to their arrest.

“Anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the four suspects can contact any nearest police station or call us on 029-60358.”

Four Bullies Captured Live On Video Flogging Minor

By A Correspondent- The world was never the same for Sibusisiwe Chirenje when she saw the video of her daughter being mercilessly flogged by four bullies. The two-and-a-half minute video, though short, crumbled her world into pieces.

The mother-of-five wept uncontrollably, and she couldn’t imagine the pain her 14-year-old daughter must have endured from the thrashing at the hands of four bullies, who were all schoolboys from Mathula Secondary School in Tsholotsho.

In this digital age, every public action can be recorded with a touch of a button by anyone who owns a smartphone. Chirenje had seen her fair share of videos circulating on social media, some hilarious and meant to entertain, while others were too horrifying in nature to watch. But, she never imagined that one day, her daughter would be watched by thousands of viewers on social media being senselessly beaten by boys old enough to be her older siblings.

Anger, sadness, disgust, and fear — all rolled into one burning emotion — engulfed the 37-year-old woman as she tried to wrap her head around the situation.

“I cried for hours. The pain I felt from watching my daughter being beaten for no reason by a group of older boys was just too much for me to bear. So, I made the difficult decision to send the video to a relative and delete it from my phone,” she said.

Chirenje couldn’t keep such a traumatic video on her mobile phone; it was too much for her to comprehend.

She wondered how four boys could come to a decision to beat up a younger girl with sticks that were not even fit to whip a donkey with? What had she done to deserve such an attack?

In the video that shocked a nation, a group of Mathula Secondary School students were walking home when one older boy confronted a young girl and started whipping her with a stick without explanation. Two other boys, also holding sticks, joined in beating up the hapless girl as she cried out for help, but that assistance never came.

The victim can be seen running in the direction of another older boy, whom she appears to think might rescue her, but instead, the bully joins in, lashing her with a stick. Other learners laughed without a care at the pain the victim was going through while the unsettling footage was captured on camera.

Contrary to what many viewers believe is a relatively new video exposing deep-rooted bullying in rural Tsholotsho, the incident is, in fact, four months old but was recently posted on social media.

The victim is now in Form Two at Mathula Secondary School.

“My daughter was beaten by those boys in late November last year, and I only knew about the incident two weeks ago after it started circulating on WhatsApp. When I asked her why she kept quiet all this time, she said she was scared the boys would beat her up again if she reported the incident at school or at home.”

According to Chirenje, her daughter’s friend and classmate wrote a love letter expressing interest in one of the boys but signed the letter using her child’s name. When the boy, under the impression that her daughter had written the love letter, asked to walk her home, she refused, which upset the older learner. The rejection didn’t go down well with the older boy, who then ganged up with other boys to beat up her child.

“I can only conclude that the rejection didn’t go down well with the older boy who then ganged up with other boys to beat up my child. All I want is justice for my child, she doesn’t deserve to be beaten like that and intimidated by other students in such a horrible way,” said Chirenje.

The arrest of the boys by the police was after the victim’s father, who works in South Africa, pursued the issue, seeking justice for his daughter. He had been tipped off by one of the learners at the school that a video of his daughter being beaten by older boys was circulating amongst the students.

The infuriated father — California Vundla — did his own investigations and unearthed the disturbing video.

It’s not clear who posted the video on social media despite its existence for four months. The perpetrators briefly appeared in court on Wednesday morning, the same day that a Saturday Chronicle news crew was in Tsholotsho, at Dogwe Village investigating the incident, and were released into the custody of their parents.

The victim’s grandmother Lavi Vundla said the family is seeking justice for the teenage girl, even if the beating took place four months ago.

“Whenever my daughter-in-law talks about the video, she still cries up to this day.

“No parent deserves to see their child beaten like that. We are leaving everything in the hands of the courts but we certainly want justice for our child,” said Gogo Vundla.

The four boys are known to the victim’s family.

“They are local boys whose parents are our neighbours and friends. I’m still shocked what pushed those boys to do something like that. It’s our duty to teach boys and young men that gender-based violence is not okay,” said Siphosenkosi Ndlovu, an elderly villager who briefly talked to the Saturday Chronicle at the local shops close to the victim’s homestead.

Mathula Secondary School headmaster Tylod Nkomo was said to be out of office attending school business at the Tsholotsho Centre. His cellphone was unreachable.

South Africa-based Zimbabwean psychologist Dr Thelma Masuku-Jones says cases of young men who beat up girls are usually signs of absentee fathers in the family.

“Boys that grow up in families with absent fathers are more likely to engage in violent behaviour against their romantic partners or future wives, they are more likely to end up in poverty or drop out of school, become addicted to drugs, have a child out of wedlock, or end up in prison.

“Migration of fathers for opportunities outside the country for prolonged periods of time leaving children in the care of their mothers or extended family members also leads to behavioural changes in teenage boys,” says Dr Masuku-Jones.

The psychologist opines that on average children whose father is actively involved tend to have fewer problems with school achievement, behaviour and social interaction than children whose father is not actively involved in their lives.

Top Model Rots In Remand Over Cocaine

By- Model, Tumelo Nare, will spend the next month in custody following the dismissal of her bail application by a Harare court yesterday.

Magistrate Dennis Mangosi only read the operative part of his ruling when Nare and her co-accused, Precious Bango, appeared before him.
“The two are facing a serious offence. It is said they behaved in a strange manner after taking the said drug, renting their clothes, and walking in the corridors.
“Their defence counsel disputed this allegation saying she fell into a trance, but the defence given by the accused persons is not plausible at this stage.
“They must give a plausible defence that can stand during trial.
“They are not proper candidates for bail,” he said.
Allegations are that the two, together and one Jason Leeroy Pamhidzai, who is at large, checked into a local hotel last weekend.
At around 6.30pm last Sunday, the two girls allegedly started behaving weirdly roaming the hotel corridors naked.
Delegates attending a meeting at the hotel called the police, who arrested the two.
The police recovered cocaine in their hotel room and arrested the two women, while Pamhidzai fled with all his belongings.
In their bail application, the two told the court that Pamhidzai was the one sniffing the cocaine, and Nare who allegedly suffers from epilepsy, had a seizure.
This prompted Bango to run in the corridors seeking help as Nare was bleeding from the nose.
The two will return to court on March 23 for routine remand. H Metro

Use Guerilla Tactics, CCC Urged

Prominent civic leader and trade unionist Peter Mutasa has urged Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) to adopt underground campaign methods in the wake of a state crackdown coupled with a systematic ban on opposition rallies.

Zimbabwe heads for potentially watershed national elections in the second half of the year with the political playing field ever becoming hazardous for Zanu-PF’s main opponents.

Outside the outright police ban over ostensible lack of manpower reasons to cover the rallies, opposition activists have been brutally attacked by suspected rivals during some of their campaign activities, often with no consequences on perpetrators.

The attacks have been fueled by violence instigating statement by some top politicians lined to the ruling Zanu-PF.

These include feared former state security minister Owen “Mudha” Ncube who has threatened to unleash “violence worse than the 2008″ one against ‘sell-outs” within opposition ranks.

In the wake of the dangers facing the opposition, Mutasa, who chairs pro-democracy group, Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition (CiZC), has called on CCC to turn to guerilla style methods of campaigning.

“Zimbabwe is a military dictatorship. There is no doubt that the constitution has been suspended and constitutional rights taken away.

“Citizens can no longer exercise freedom of expression, association or assembly.

“Opposition gatherings are banned and their leaders are detained without trial.

“Journalists are arrested for exposing corruption and trade unionists are brutalized for demanding better working conditions.

“Under such circumstances, the opposition must not be predictable.

“It must use guerrilla tactics and underground political activities to fully exercising their constitutional rights that are being unlawfully limited by state agencies,” said the former Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions president.

Mutasa said the oppressive atmosphere was being aided by state institutions such as the police and courts that seem to be taking instructions from the ruling party.

Once victimized by the state for calling for the 2016 national stay-away which was riding on the new wave of citizen disobedience then inspired by Pastor Evan Mawarire, Mutasa told his opposition allies not to forget Zimbabwe was different from South Africa which commands democratic processes.

Mutasa’s comments follow almost similar stance by CCC leader nelson Chamisa who vowed Thursday to keep party strategies under wraps for fear of infiltration by the enemy.

Chamisa said, “I can assure you that we will not announce what we are going to do to baboons.

“But I want to tell you that these baboons are not going to be troublesome anymore.”

Hwende Defends Chamisa, Trashes Trevor Ncube Dictatorial Claims

By Jane Mlambo| Opposition Citizen Coalition for Change (CCC) Secretary General Charlton Hwende has defended his boss Nelson Chamisa following claims by publisher Trevor Ncube that he is dictatorial.

Trevor Ncube posted an eight threaded Twitter post in which he claimed that CCC insiders had told him that Chamisa was dictatorial and not able to lead the party or country.

“These people say they have given up on Nelson but can’t tell him. That he is not a leader. That he is not a democrat. Some of these people have suggested exploring a Third Way, which I have since given up on, although Robert Chapman’s effort could be just that,” said Trevor Ncube.

But Hwende responded saying those claims were not correct as they were just coming out of a meeting where they were discussing the party’s voter registration strategy.

Hwende said in party meetings, every issue is openly discussed and debated before coming up with a conclusion.

“We have just spent 5 hrs at the office in a meeting with @nelsonchamisa fine tuning our voter registration strategy. He never dictates anything everything is debated freely , agreed on and adopted as party program and policy,” said Hwende.

ANC Hell-Bent on Stopping Regime Change in Zimbabwe

indepth...Wilbert Mukori

By Wilbert Mukori | “South Africa has a Zimbabwe problem – and no one is willing to help it, said African National Congress (ANC) secretary-general Fikile Mbalula as he called for an end to long-standing sanctions against the country,” reported Bulawayo 24.
“Mbalula said that the Americans and the British were refusing to let up because they wanted regime change.”

“We’ve got a problem here in Zimbabwe and it’s brewing. And you think it’s going to be the problem of the Americans; it’s going to be our problem for the longest of time,” Mbulula told his SA audience.
The root cause of Zimbabwe’s economic meltdown, the reason why so many Zimbabweans are in SA and beyond as economic and/or political refuges is because Zimbabwe is a failed state. A pariah state ruled by corrupt, incompetent, and ruthless thugs who have rigged elections to stack their stay in power. 43 years of gross mismanagement and rampant corruption have left the country in economic ruins.
Zanu PF has been blaming the 2001 sanctions imposed by the West for all Zimbabwe’s economic problems although the economic problems started long before the sanctions were imposed. For example, Zimbabwe adopted the 1990 to 1995 Economic Structural Adjustment Programme (ESAP) to revive the country’s flagging economy. When that failed to deliver the desired changes, the had another five-year programme. Sadly, that too failed to revive the economy. This is well documented and it is therefore very disappointing that anyone, especially SA’s governing ANC leaders has chosen to believe Zanu PF sanctions propaganda.
Zanu PF has yet to hold free, fair and credible elections in Zimbabwe since the country’s independence in 1980; this is yet another well documented historic fact. The AU and SADC have always turned a blind eye to Zanu PF rigged elections granting the regime legitimacy. The only time the continental and the regional bodies refused to grant Zanu PF legitimacy was in 2008, the cheating and wanton violence by Zanu PF were so outrageous and brutal that even they could not ignore it.
AU and SADC leaders refused to grant Zanu PF political legitimacy and forced the regime to sign the 2008 Global Political Agreement (GPA), agreeing to the need for Zimbabwe to implement the raft of democratic reforms to stop the rigging of elections and restore the rule of law. A GNU comprising Zanu PF and the two MDC factions was formed and tasked to implement the reforms. SADC, headed by SA and ANC veteran leader Lindiwe Zulu, was the guarantor of the GPA.
SADC leaders know that not even one token democratic reform was implemented during the GNU. In a last-minute desperate bid to have the reform implemented, regional body proposed that Zimbabwe’s July 2013 elections should be postponed until reforms were implemented. “If you go into the elections next month, you will lose. The elections are done!” they warned Morgan Tsvangirai and his MDC friends.
As we know SADC leaders’ warning was ignored and Zanu PF rigging the 2013 elections and, in a shocking volte-face granted Zanu PF legitimacy knowing fully well the party had rigged the elections as they had rightly predicted only a few weeks earlier.
The opposition once again ignore the SADC leaders to boycott the 2018 elections until reforms were implemented. The regional leaders, in turn, granted vote rigging Zanu PF political legitimacy.
History is repeating itself; the opposition are participating in the 2023 elections without even a token democratic reform implemented. Zanu PF is rigging the 2023 elections just as it rigged the 2013 and 2018 elections. The rigging is so blatant the elections are going ahead without something as basic as a verified voters’ roll, for Pete’s sake!
The idea that SADC leaders will, once again, turn a blind eye to the blatantly rigged elections to grant Zanu PF political legitimacy is unthinkable!
Zimbabweans were hoping that of all the SADC countries SA; given her history of holding free elections, Minister Lindiwe Zulu’s first-hand knowledge of the failure to implement reforms during the GNU and the economic instability caused by the political crisis in Zimbabwe; would be as keen as mustard to end the madness of granting vote rigging Zanu PF legitimacy. As long as Zimbabwe remains a pariah state the economic meltdown forcing Zimbabwe to be economic and/or political refugees in SA and beyond will only get worse.
What is clear is that this ANC government is hell bent on granting vote rigging Zanu PF political legitimacy under the pretext the 2023 elections are free, fair and credible and thus the result is the true democratic wish of the people of Zimbabwe. It is the West who are seeking regime change in Zimbabwe and not the people of Zimbabwe.
The ANC government has its own sinister reasons for ignoring the historic facts that Zanu PF is rigging the 2023 elections and granting the regime political legitimacy will only deny the ordinary Zimbabweans a chance to end the dictatorship and perpetuate it instead.
SA is in an economic and political mess. Nearly 30 years of mediocre and/or down right corrupt and incompetent ANC rule has left the country’s, once upon a time, robust economy and infrastructure in ruins. The nationwide load shedding because ESKOM cannot meet the nation its electrical power needs has driven home the point; SA is in serious trouble and, worst of all, the ANC government has no clue what to do. If it did, the party would have never allowed the country to sink this deep in the first place!
SA is going to the poll next year and ANC leaders know the party’s hold on power is tenuous, to say the least, given the sorry state of the economy. The party has hit panic button!
If the 2023 Zimbabwe elections were to deliver regime change that would give the South Africans voters the courage to do the same, especially if the change started to start deliver noticeable changes to Zimbabwe’s battered economy! The 2008 to 2013 GNU delivered a 12% economic growth in 2009 compared to the negative 6% in 2008 under Zanu PF rule. This is clearly what ANC is determined not to let happen and hence the party’s November 2022 congress resolution not to let regime change in Zimbabwe.
ANC leaders are adapting the fiddler crab strategy, it will tolerate crabs whose fiddler claw is smaller than its own for neighbours and will even gang up to evict the rest. If the fight to attract females its claw will look humongous compared with its neighbours! ANC leaders’ economic performance record is pathetic, but it is nothing compared to the disastrous chaos Zanu PF has brought to Zimbabwe.
As a Zimbabwean, I am not interested in ANC and Zanu PF’s rat race to the bottom. And it would be irresponsible to let these failed ANC leaders use Zimbabwe and Zimbabweans as their sacrificial guinea pigs in the same sinister way that President Putin of Russia is using Ukraine to bolster his flagging macho image!

The people of Zimbabwe needs right now is an end to SADC granting vote rigging Zanu PF legitimacy that is stopping the imposition of new GNU and implementing the democratic reforms to guarantee free and fair elections. It is for the people of Zimbabwe alone, in a free, fair and credible election, to decide who will govern Zimbabwe. If it is their democratic wish to have regime change then the MUST have regime change. It is very presumptuous, to put it mildly, for SA’s ANC leaders claim they have the power or authority to stop regime change in Zimbabwe by granting vote rigging Zanu PF political legitimacy.- SOURCE: zimbabwelight.blogspot.com

Search For Lion On The Prowl Continues

ONE of the two lions that have been wreaking havoc in Hwange has been killed, with Zimparks authorities still tracking the other one.

Zimparks Spokesperson Mr Tinashe Farawo told the Zbc News that a joint effort between the Zimbabwe National Parks and Wildlife Management Authority and the Hwange Rural District Council resulted in the other lion being put down, while the search for the second problem animal continues.

Mr Farawo said, ‘‘Our Zimparks reaction team together with Hwange Rural District Council have reacted to two problem animals in the area, and they managed to eliminate one lion. These lions were killing cattle within the locality and we are still on the ground with the view of eliminating the remaining lion.’’

The development comes after Zimparks rangers killed a problem elephant in Victoria Falls last week.

Human-wildlife conflict is rife in communities that are near game parks and reserves as the wild animals often encroach on human settlements in search of water and food.-ZBC News

Man On The Run After Pushing Wife’s Lover Off Fourth Floor Window

A SAKUBVA man died after he fell off from the fourth floor of Matida Flats while wrestling with his married lover’s husband early Sunday morning.

It is alleged that Tawanda Chirenje (25) had caught the now deceased Gift Saungweme (40) in a compromising position with his estranged wife, Phillipa Dariyani (25), in a friend’s apartment.

Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Nobert Muzondo confirmed that the police are on the hunt for Chirenje who took the law into his own hands and pushed Saungweme off a fourth floor window at Matida Hostel as they wrestled.

“Chirenje had caught Dariyani drinking beer with Saungweme in a friend’s apartment. He assaulted her with the flat side of a machete, booted feet and fists and proceeded to assault Saungweme.

“They wrestled towards an open window and as they wrestled, Saungweme fell off the window from the fourth floor. He sustained head injuries and died on Monday morning.

“We are treating the matter as a murder incident as the circumstances are all pointing that way. As the police, we urge people not to take the law into their own hands and not to use violence when such matters arise,” said Inspector Muzondo.

When The Manica Post visited the scene on Monday, Dariyani’s friends revealed that she is a sex worker who had offered her services to the now deceased, with her husband catching them red handed.

During our visit to Matida Hostels, we leant that Dariyami had just been picked by the police for questioning while Chirenje was reported to have disappeared shortly after Saungweme’s fall from the building.

In an interview with The Manica Post, Dariyami’s friend, Shallon Maisera, in whose apartment the two lovebirds were caught red handed, said she had been drinking with Dariyami and Saungweme at the bar that night before they decided to go to her apartment.

“I offered them my apartment because her children were sleeping in her apartment, which is on the third floor. The three of us had been drinking in my apartment when Saungweme sent me to buy more beer and it was already past midnight.

“When I came back, I was shocked to find Chirenje inside my apartment with the lovebirds. Dariyani was crying and begging for Chirenje to forgive her. I knocked and Chirenje opened the door for me.

“He told me that he had caught the two in bed and that he wanted to kill them. I tried to stop him but he pushed and locked me outside. Shortly afterwards, he came out and told me that Saungweme had jumped off the window. He then walked away after that,” said Maisera.

She said Dariyami was assaulted all over her body with the machete.

Maisera said when they rushed downstairs, Saungweme who was still alive but badly injured asked for some water.

“I asked him if he had been pushed off the window or if he had jumped but he kept saying ‘pakaipa’ so we rushed him to the hospital where he died later on,” she said.

Dariyani’s other friend, Memory Chaipa said Dariyani and Chirenje’s relationship was strained due to Chirenje’s violent nature.

“Chirenje is negligent and violent, which is why Dariyani joined us in sex work. She wanted to take care of her five children but Chirenje who is an illegal gold panner would not understand this. He has one child with her but he does not look after that child,” said Chaipa.

The friends also confronted each other on who could have alerted Chirenje that Dariyani was with Saungweme.

They accused Maisera, who however avidly refused being the informer.

“We heard that it was you Maisera who called Chirenje because you wanted him to yourself as he had some money, so please tell us the truth. Why did he show up at the time that you had gone to the bar? Please be open with us and state the truth?” asked Chaipa.

However, Maisera insisted that she had nothing to do with it.

“I honestly do not know how everything took place. I was at the bar buying beers, I did not call Chirenje. Why would I do that when Dariyani is my best friend? I was also shocked to find Chirenje in my home. I am dealing with severe trauma right now because the man jumped from my apartment, I fear that his ghost will haunt me when I did nothing wrong,” she defended herself.

Prior to The Manica Post’s arrival at Matida Flats, the Saungweme family had been at the scene to conduct some rituals.

“Saungweme’s parents were here this morning. They took some blood-stained soil from where he fell and conducted some rituals. The mother ordered her dead son to revenge those that caused his death.

“It was scary, she asked the residents for a hoe so that she could dig the soil that she wanted but no one came forward. So she threatened that she would leave the blood as it was and that the whole Matida Hostel would be uninhabitable due to her son’s ghost, that is when people rushed to look for a hoe for her,” said Chaipa.

At the place where Saungweme landed was some snuff that had been sprinkled by his mother and some other strange objects.- Manica Post

Alexander Dhliwayo and Boniface Jana appeared before Harare magistrate Mr Dennis Mangosi charged with fraud and remanded on $70 000 bail each to May 11.

It is the State’s case that sometime in September last year at the Harare offices of Karigamombe Nurse and Nourish, Dhliwayo and Jana misrepresented to Kennedy Ndambakuwa that they were capable of processing certificates of sponsorship for 18 students who wanted to go to the United Kingdom for nursing employment.

They knew that they did not have the capacity to process the wanted certificates of sponsorship and yet still accepted the US$36 000 payment.

Upon realising that nothing was materialising, Mr Ndambakuwa filed a police report leading to the arrest of the two. -state media

Rejecting Mangudya’s $20 Is Breaking The Law-RBZ

Public transport operators and traders must accept $20 notes as they are legal tender and failure to accept legal tender in transactions is outside the law, the Finance Ministry warned this week.
Some public transport operators and informal traders in the capital are no longer accepting the $20 notes as legal tender, months after they also rejected $10 and $5 notes, effectively taking them out of circulation.

The rebuff has left travellers stranded as many kombi operators and tuckshop owners are not accepting the $20 notes, only $50 and $100 notes.

Supermarkets and other big furniture shops are accepting all local notes in circulation including $5, $10, $20, $50 and $100 notes.

However, Government yesterday said the rejection of local bank notes was illegal and the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe would inquire into the matter.

“The rejection of bond notes is illegal and we will do an inquiry with the RBZ. The $20 notes are legal tender and no one has reason to refuse the currency,” said chief director of communications and advocacy in the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development Mr Clive Mphambela.

Transport associations also blasted operators who are rejecting notes, saying urgent action will be taken against those refusing to accept the bond notes.

Zimbabwe Passenger Transporters Organisation chairman Dr Sam Nanhanga said it was an offence for public transporters to refuse bond notes.

“As long as it is legal tender we accept it. We also accept all forms of payment be it in local currency or foreign currency,” he said.

Mr Ngoni Katsvairo, the Greater Harare Association of Commuter Omnibus Operators secretary-general echoed the same sentiments, saying action would be taken against those who were not accepting local currency.

“As an association, we have not ordered any operator to reject bond notes. If the operators are rejecting local currency, the passengers must get the code inscribed at the back of the kombi and urgent action will be taken against the driver and the conductor and eventually the owner of the vehicle,” he said.

Zimbabwe Union of Drivers and Conductors president Mr Frederick Maguramhinga concurred with his counterparts and said: “To be honest, we do not allow what is not allowed by the Government, that is to reject the legal tender of this country.”

“This is our policy and we are we do not allow any driver or conductor to refuse the bond notes. We are accepting every form of payment and we are not selecting the types of notes to be paid.

“If the passengers see any of our members refuse to collect the $20 notes, they should call us and proper action will be taken against the driver or the operator of the kombi,” Mr Maguramhinga said.

Passengers have also raised an outcry over the rejection of the $20 notes saying it has greatly affected their transport from their homes to the city centre and back.

They have urged Government to act against informal businesses that were rejecting $20 notes, a situation that is now adding pressure on the cash crisis.

Miss Nyaradzo Chibukwa from Warren Park said Government should intervene and resolve the situation as bond notes were legal tender.

“What the conductors are doing is not fair because we would have received the money from the bank in $20 notes so they have no right to refuse the money. They are saying the money is not accepted in the tuckshops in the downtown of the city centre so they cannot accept the money. Police should arrest them because it is legal tender and no one should refuse it,” she said.

Mr Bornwise Jacha from Tynwald had no kind words for the public transport operators and calls for the banning of kombis on the road.

“I think Government has made a good move when they banned kombis during the lockdown period. These people are not human because how can a driver or a conductor refuse to accept $20 notes? Where do they think we can get the money from? This is totally absurd,” Mr Jacha said. -state media

Brett Muvhet vs Wilbert Mukori On Al Jazeera Documentary

VIDEO LOADING BELOW

While Brett Muvhet says the upcoming Al Jazeera documentary #GoldMafia is a waste, analyst Wilbert Mukori has a different story and he says:

What the Al Jazeera documentary will do is put the meat on the bones! We all know there is corruption and looting in Zimbabwe but few know how much is being looted, how and by whom. The documentary is going to answer all these questions and lot more besides. What we do with the information is our business.
We can and should use the Al Jazeera documentary to remind our SADC friends that they had been taken for fools by Zanu PF because clearly corruption is the root cause of Zimbabwe’s economic meltdown and not the sanctions as Zanu PF had them believe.
Given the eye watering sums of money involved and the individuals in positions of power and authority involved in the looting, it is clear those involved would not want to lose the looted wealth and thus bankrolled Zanu PF’s election to ensure the party remained in power and the looting continued. For every dollar the opposition was able to raise Zanu PF raised a thousand times that and more! How can the election ever be a fair contest under these conditions!
There is a lot that we can get by running with this A Jazeera documentary, it will be a great pity if we fail to do so.

Man Falls Off Roof While Wrestling With Married Lover’s Husband

Zimparks Team Kills Notorious Lion

Richarlison Blasts Conte

Tottenham forward Richarlison has openly criticised his coach Antonio Conte for lack of game time following the team’s goalless draw against AC Milan on Wednesday.

The Brazilian star started on the bench before coming on as a 70th-minute substitute as his side failed to overturn a first leg deficit and exited the Champions League in the Round of 16 stage on a 1-0 aggregate loss.

“I should have played,” he told Brazilian TV station TNT Sports after Wednesday’s match. “I was playing well, we won against Chelsea and West Ham and suddenly I was on the bench.

“I played five minutes against Wolves, asked the reason and no-one told me why. Yesterday, they asked me to take a fitness test in the gym and told me I was going to start today if I passed it.

“And today I was on the bench. There are things I can’t understand. There was no explanation again, let’s see what he [Conte] will tell us tomorrow – but I’m not silly, I’m a professional who works hard every day and I want to play.”

Richarlison, who moved to Spurs in a £60m deal from Everton in the pre-season, has started in twelve of his twenty-five appearances in this campaign across all competitions. He scored just two games, playing mainly as a right winger.

He added: “Let’s see what he (Conte) will say tomorrow, but there are no fools here either, I’m a professional, I work every day and I want to play. There are minutes left, time left.

“This season, excuse the word, it’s been s*** because I don’t have minutes, I suffered a little with the injury. But, when I enter the field, I give my life. I came from two games well, I think that’s it, I think I should have played and I don’t have to cry about it.”- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Address Issues Raised By Winky D, Govt Told

Winky D

By Jane Mlambo| A Zimbabwean journalist based in Australia, Charles Dzimwasha has castigated the government over the recent onslaught against musician of the moment Winky D saying focus should be on addressing issues raised in his songs.

Winky D was recently removed from the stage by police while performing at a show Chitungwiza. The police pounced on him as he performed his controversial song Ibotso which speaks about the impact of corruption.

Speaking at an Australian radio station last week, Dzimwasha urged the government of Zimbabwe to stop its onslaught against critical voices including journalists and musicians.

“Even during the liberation struggle, music played a significant role in conscientising and mobilising the masses. It is shocking that the same people who benefitted from Thomas Mapfumo, Cde Chinx and many other musicians during the liberation struggle now want everyone quite when injustices and corruption are the order of the day,” he said.

Dzimwasha said the Emmerson Mnangagwa regime always panics even at little things like a song that speaks to issues happening in society.

“Musicians are the voice of the voiceless, whatever they sing is reflective of what is obtaining on the ground, so instead of shooting the messenger, they should deal with the issues raised,” said Dzimwasha.

“They have ruined a country that was once a gem, the human rights situation in the country is at an all time low, the economy is worse, people are suffering and they expect the whole country to cheer while they loot,” he added.

He urged Winky D and other musicians to continue standing with the masses and ignore a paranoid government that is scared of the power of music.

“Musicians should not just sing for the sake of it. They have influence and should use that influence to push government to address problems facing the nation.

“Sometimes it needs someone deemed neutral to speak out because politicians do not trust each other, so musicians are the best suited to be the voice of the voiceless by virtue of already having the ears of the nation,”

“What they are doing to Winky D with his influence among the ghetto youths will push the country into a revolution, they do not know that in attacking Winky D, they are planting anger in citizens, they should check how social media reacted to their threats on Winky D,” added Dzimwasha.

Mliswa Wades Into Bona Mugabe, Simba Chikore Divorce

Tinashe Sambiri|Outspoken Norton MP, Temba Mliswa, has described Simba Chikore as a cunning man.

Mliswa was commenting on Bona Mugabe and Chikore’s divorce.

Mliswa further described Bona as a humble and good-natured young lady.

“The separation of Bona from Simba Chikore is actually good news for her. That guy wasn’t good for her and didn’t deserve her. She is a model for the girl child, calm, unassuming and handles herself well. She deserves a life in peace,” commented Mliswa.

“The guy was out for dodgy business deals, associating with the First Family only and name-dropping for personal aggrandisement. You can’t hold on to such. You will be well Mangwenya. I liked you from the day I met you at a meeting with President Mugabe in Zvimba.

You came across as a level headed person. I will forever respect you and pray for you. Your life can still go on. Be strong,” added Mliswa.

FULL THREAD: Publisher Trevor Ncube Speaks On Chamisa

1/8. I am making this thread with a deep sense of love for my brother in Christ, Nelson Chamisa. The same kind of love and frankness that characterized the meeting he requested in my office a while back. What people very close to Nelson say to me concerns me.

2/8. These people say they have given up on Nelson but can’t tell him. That he is not a leader. That he is not a democrat. Some of these people have suggested exploring a Third Way, which I have since given up on, although Robert Chapman’s effort could be just that.

3/8. These people say Nelson does not want to be accountable. That he feels threatened by people such as Tendai Biti, Welshman Ncube, Job Sikhala, Hopewell Chinono etc .Those who remain around him do so because they see him as a ticket to their own political ambitions.

4/8. These people are frightened by the dreams that Nelson shares of him hearing from God. Dreams of him being told he will be at State House until old age. Most fervent Christians hear from God but there is always purity to what God says to us.

5/8. My own prayer for Nelson is that he realizes that successful national leadership is always a product of a strong team of rivals. Men and women who disagree passionately but are united around the big picture. Weak people, Yes Minister types, are why Zimbabwe is where it is.

6/8. I am speaking out because nobody else will say this publicly because they are frightened of Nelson and his supporters. People think criticizing Nelson weakens the opposition. A leader who can’t stand scrutiny in opposition will be a dictator once elected into office.

7/8. Foreign diplomats also share their deep concern and so do NGO’s who have previously supported Nelson. The military/intelligence believe they have Nelson under control. His supporters clearly don’t know this and they follow blindly.

8/8. And why is this any of my business? Because a strong and principle opposition is important for prosperity. Because of the danger of electing another dictator to State House. Criticism and transparency strengthen leaders and institutions.

Campaigning Zim President In Soup Over Contempt Of Court

By A Correspondent | The man who “investigative journalist’ Hopewell Chin’ono says owns a private jet, the Democratic Union of Zimbabwe leader, Robert Chapman was Thursday afternoon served prosecution papers for contempt of court (over defaulting child support money and visitation failure which has lasted over 3 months.)

Hopewell Chin'ono's claim over Robert Chapman's finances

Chapman, who some Zimbabweans label, Obama, was served prosecution papers at around 3.30pm, Nashville Time, court papers in ZimEye’s possession show.

In the state of Tennessee, when one fails to pay child maintenance and go into arrears for over 3 months, they’ve broken the law.

Lawyers used court server services to track Robert Chapman upon him entering the Nashville area.

The officers physically chased him up, and their movement is reflected in the following live satellite tracker (officer reflected in the cop icon, that’s moving up the journey trail in the map).

Live software tracker as court server chased Chapman up on Thursday afternoon. Court Sherrif is the
capped officer icon

The software tracked Chapman down to a local hotel.

The development was confirmed by the software used by the local solicitors.

Chapman has child maintenance arrears totaling more than USD10,000 for his 4 children with two different mothers, both based in the US.

Papers served yesterday were for his fourth child.

One of the bills has on its own ran above the USD7,000 marker.

Mr Chapman cooperated during the serving, a source told ZimEye.

Contacted for comment via phone, Chapman responded saying he would call back to speak over the court official incident.

‘Hello Robert. Are you well? Want to publish the breaking story regarding the serving of papers that’s just happened against you at 3.30pm. Do you consider yourself financially fit for 2023 elections seeing you keep defaulting on child maintenance, which is a serious offence since 2014?,’ he was asked, to which he asked for more time. “Can I return your call shortly,” he said.

2 hours later, Chapman was still to call, and he was asked once again, ‘Thank you for replying me…but you are still to call. Is it not wise to use the Harare flight money for your kids? Time is moving. I have a deadline on the o-clock for your final comment,’ he was told.

The latest development is one in a string of several others since 2014, when a judge ordered for his arrest over the first arrears running over USD12,000.

Chapman divorced his first wife in December 2010, and Thursday’s development regards his second marriage which was terminated 3 years ago.

In 2014, the Catoosa County Superior court in Georgia ordered Chapman to pay $500 a child. He was dragged him to court as his wife sought to compel him to pay child support.

“…Robert Howard Chapman does not pay $500 per month toward said child support arrears until paid in full, upon affidavit of Plaintiff, the Defendant shall be confined to the common jail of Catoosa County for his willful failure and refusal to abide by the lawful order of this Court until the remaining arrears are paid in full,” read an order by Judge Brian House of the Catoosa County Superior Court.

“It is further ordered, adjudged, and decreed that the defendant shall continue to pay the sum of $873 per month as current support, in addition to the purge amount of $500 per month,” the ruling read.

Despite Chapman later clearing the total amount over USD12,000, he has accrued a new burden, running beyond USD11,000 for the four kids, as at Friday, today.

Chapman’s party was unreachable for a comment at the time of writing.

Zanu Pf Primary Elections Dates Set

By A Correspondent- President Mnangagwa has set March 18 for Zanu-PF primary elections as the revolutionary party girds its loins ahead of this year’s elections leaving nothing to chance to ensure a resounding victory.

The President said that the primary elections would be held next week with the party’s commissariat department putting final touches to the guidelines and rules.

Already, the revolutionary party, which is eyeing five million votes, is in the voter mobilisation and cell verification process, which will give empirical evidence of its power base across the country, while guidelines for the primary elections, the yardstick for its internal democracy are at an advanced stage.

In his address to the 367th Session of the Politburo, which was also attended by deputy secretaries at the party’s headquarters yesterday, the President, who is Zanu-PF First Secretary, said the members should gird themselves to work with structures in the “ongoing mobilisation, work towards the party’s thunderous victory in the upcoming 2023 Harmonised General Elections”.

The party manifesto is also being finalised as well as other critical aspects related to Zanu-PF’s internal election road map.

The President also charged his troops who assumed the arduous responsibility of serving in the Politburo to “re-commit to tow the correct party line, uphold constitutionalism, ideology, internal democratic practices, as well as rules and procedures of the party.

“There is no room for personal, group, district or provincial self-serving interests. You are all now national leaders. We must never be found wanting.”

He said at the party’s administrative level, preparations for the holding of democratic primary elections should begin in earnest.

“We as Zanu-PF, we will have our internal primary elections from next week. Equally, all provinces are directed to constitute themselves in readiness for responsive grassroots-based mobilisation campaigns ahead of the Harmonised General Elections. Provinces must further raise the requisite resources for campaigns at their level.

“Voter registration and grassroots-oriented mobilisation strategies centred at the cells and villages should continue. Nothing must be left to chance,” the President said.

Elections, the President added, offer Zimbabweans, who were liberated by united ZANU and ZAPU, ZANLA and ZIPRA, the opportunity to reject neo-colonialists and their local lackeys.

“I commend you all for the ongoing cell verification exercise undertaken across provinces. Organising our people to exercise their sacred right to vote for the defence of constitutionalism, our independence, freedom, and

sovereignty, democracy is everyone’s responsibility. United as ZANU and ZAPU, ZANLA and ZIPRA, we waged a protracted armed war so that our people can enjoy free, fair and transparent elections. We will defend this right from all neo-colonial threats.

“We are aware of the nefarious machinations to attack and discredit our national institutions. As the people of Zimbabwe, let us remain vigilant and not allow ourselves to be hoodwinked by entities who are against the progress, economic growth, peace and unity of our country,” he said.

Oiling the behemoth party, whose people-tailored policies have found resonance across the country, attracting new members, some of whom were in leadership positions in the opposition, and numerous affiliate organisations, the President said resources will be availed appropriately to ensure a resounding victory.

“All the wings of the party, along with affiliate organisations, will be supported in their political mobilisation programmes based on clear programmes and activities. Our revolutionary mass party knows no other place in politics besides victory, development and success. Zanu-PF is geared and ready to mount an electric, thunderous and scientific, people-centred campaign. We are ready for victory. Victory is certain!

“2022 saw the establishment and growth of affiliate organisations. The allegiance, loyalty and patriotism demonstrated by this emerging new crop of cadres are undoubtedly complementing the work of party leagues. The multiplier effects of the affiliate organisations must be harnessed for the growth and modernisation of our party.

“To maintain this momentum, it is also our collective — the Politburo, leagues and departments of the party — to handhold and nurture new responsibility as members. They must have a deeper grasp of the party’s ideology, constitution, values, rules, procedures and principles. Equally, the returnees’ Dzokai Kumusha, Buyani ekhaya Programme, should be promoted and new members must be welcomed as well as fully integrated across all structures” he said.

Turning to the economy, the President said the Politburo must be ever mindful that economic growth is paramount, and that agriculture production and productivity should be accompanied by modernisation and mechanisation, based on the fact that the land reform is irreversible.

He warned some meddlesome countries against owning large tracts of land by way of carbon credits.

“Our communities are the rightful custodians of the land, flora fauna, hence matters related to environmental management and conservation including social development should benefit the people of our country.

“NGOs must be transparent and accountable in all their activities. We cannot have unknown and faceless Western-owned entities and NGOs, benefiting from our natural resources by way of carbon credits, in some cases with close to 1 million hectares of land in a single province, purportedly under their purview.

“As we move towards Vision 2030, our country is evolving, modernising and industrialising. The responsible departments and the Youth League must, therefore, competently promote initiatives and synergies riding on science, technology and innovation, as primary driving forces for development.”

Under President Mnangagwa every corner of the country is witnessing tremendous development that leaves no one and no place behind and this will be maintained going into the future

“Your responsibility is weighty and must be undertaken with integrity, honesty, unwavering loyalty and patriotism. As we undertake our political work, let us carry the message of hope, peace, unity, love and harmony. We say no to violence. We must be ready and vigilant to confront all the machinations from our detractors head-on.”

Before the start of the Politburo, a moment of silence was observed to remember national heroes who passed on recently, namely the late Betty Flora Mutero, Brigadier General (Rtd) Epmarcus Walter Kanhanga and Dr Christopher Chindoti Mushohwe.

“Bona Divorce Good News”: Mliswa

By A Correspondent- Former Zanu PF Mashonaland West provincial chairperson and Norton legislator Temba Mliswa has wadded into Bona Mugabe and Simbarashe Chikore’s divorce, arguing the latter never deserved to marry late President Robert Mugabe’s daughter as he is a dodgy character.

Bona filed for divorce at the High Court in Harare, Tuesday, ending a nine-year marriage that started off as a million-dollar fairy tale.

Mliswa, who claims to have been close to Mugabe, said the divorce was ‘good news’ for Bona.

Bona appeared as Mugabe’s favourite; learned, calm, with no scandal to her name. Unlike her brothers whose shenanigans have occupied ample space in the media, she has managed to maintain a low profile.

“The separation of Bona from Simba is actually good news for her. That guy wasn’t good for her and didn’t deserve her. She is a model for the girl child, calm, unassuming and handles herself well. She deserves a life in peace,” said Mliswa.

“The guy was out for dodgy business deals, associating with the First Family only and name-dropping for personal aggrandisement. You can’t hold on to such. You will be well Mangwenya. I liked you from the day I met you at a meeting with President Mugabe in Zvimba.

“You came across as a level-headed person. I will forever respect you and pray for you. Your life can still go on. Be strong.”

Bona cited Chikore’s “activities outside marriage” as one reason for the breakdown of the highly-celebrated union.

The couple has three children aged seven, five and two.

Part of her demands in the divorce decree, Bona is seeking full custody of the children, stating that it is in the best interest of the minors. She is amenable to Chikore having access to the children every alternate weekend.

The Herald reported that Bona is demanding US$2 700 monthly per child, which totals US$8 100 (over R150 000) collectively, until the children attain the age of majority or become self-sustaining.

Bona was born to then president Mugabe’s second wife, Grace, six years before the couple officially wed in 1996 and while his first wife, Sally, was still alive.

Media reports emerged over the years, alleging widespread adultery by Chikore and it was also reported that president Mugabe had at times intervened and cautioned his son-in-law.

Lobels CEO Hauled To Court Over R_ape

By A Correspondent- Lobels Biscuits’ chief operations officer (CEO), Andrew Dinhidza, has been taken to court facing nine counts of rape and sexually harassing subordinates.

Dinhidza appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Joseph Mabeza yesterday, NewsDay reported.

A female employee told the court that in March 2021, she was fired for attending to her sick child.

Dinhidza then demanded sexual favours for her to get her job back

She was allegedly raped by Dinhidza. She underwent a medical evaluation, and a report was created.

In a different instance, which allegedly occurred in 2020, Dinhidza allegedly sought sex in exchange for full-time employment from a contract employee who had been with the business since 2009.

A female employee testified in another count that Dinhidza sexually assaulted her sometime in 2013 after she went to his office to find out why her husband had been fired.

Dinhidza, Lobels Biscuits’ human resources manager at that time, allegedly sexually assaulted her and gave her husband a job back.

Mary Nyika of Macharaga Law Chambers represented the workers.

Gvt Issues Stern Warning As Traders Reject $20 Bond Notes

By A Correspondent- Public transport operators and traders must accept $20 notes as they are legal tender and failure to accept legal tender in transactions is outside the law, the Finance Ministry warned yesterday.

Some public transport operators and informal traders in the capital are no longer accepting the $20 notes as legal tender, months after they also rejected $10 and $5 notes, effectively taking them out of circulation.

The rebuff has left travellers stranded as many kombi operators and tuckshop owners are not accepting the $20 notes. They only take $50 and $100 notes.

Transport associations also blasted operators who are rejecting notes saying urgent action will be taken against those refusing to accept the bond notes.

Zimbabwe Passenger Transporters Organisation chairman Dr Sam Nanhanga said it was an offence for public transporters to refuse bond notes.

“As long as it is legal tender we accept it. We also accept all forms of payment be it in local currency or foreign currency,” he said.

Mr Ngoni Katsvairo, the Greater Harare Association of Commuter Omnibus Operators secretary-general echoed the same sentiments saying action would be taken against those who were not accepting local currency.

“This is our policy and we do not allow any driver or conductor to refuse the bond notes.

Itai Dzamara’s Wife Demands Answers 8yrs On

By A Correspondent- The wife of “abducted” journalist-cum-activist Itai Dzamara’s wife, Sheffra yesterday expressed disappointment over the failure by the State to provide answers to what happened to her husband who has been missing for eight years.

A well-known activist and fierce critic of the late former President Robert Mugabe’s government, Dzamara disappeared in 2015 and his whereabouts remain a mystery.

The journalist was allegedly abducted by State agents at a barber shop in Glen View, Harare, eight years ago.

In 2016, Sheffra, in the company of Itai’s late brother, Patson, submitted a petition to the United Nations Children’s Fund over Itai’s disappearance.

In 2020, she penned an emotional open letter to President Emmerson Mnangagwa begging him to use his powers to find Itai.

“My efforts have yielded no answers. We once attempted to talk to government, but up to now, they are quiet. It is very painful to come to the understanding that the Zimbabwean government, which is supposed to shield and protect its citizens, is doing nothing with regards to my husband’s case,” Sheffra told NewsDay yesterday. “It pains me everyday to think that we are not free in our own country when the government takes no action after one of our own disappears.”

Sheffra said she had now left everything in God’s hands.

“Life has not been that good as my children constantly ask where their father is. I have nothing to tell them. I want to appeal to government to assist us in finding what happened to Itai since he was a citizen of this country. It will also help us find closure. I plead with international organisations not to tire and keep asking about Itai’s whereabouts.”

In commemorating Dzamara’s disappearance yesterday, Amnesty International Zimbabwe said the continued failure of Zimbabwean authorities to launch an effective investigation into his disappearance was a travesty of justice, which sends a chilling message about the security of others who demand accountability from government.

Amnesty International Zimbabwe executive director Lucia Masuka said: “The failure of Zimbabwean authorities to account for the enforced disappearance of Dzamara eight years after he was last seen speaks volumes about the lack of political will to account for him.

“The world and Dzamara’s family want truth and justice for his disappearance. His family also wants to be freed from the agonising uncertainty they have been subjected to since his disappearance,” she said.

“Today, we join Itai’s family in calling on the Zimbabwean authorities to conduct a thorough, independent, effective, and transparent investigation into Itai Dzamara’s disappearance.”

    Married Men Behind Most Abortions

By A Correspondent- Some married men are reportedly forcing their girlfriends to terminate pregnancies to avoid fathering children outside marriages and looking after illegitimate children.

Illegal unsafe abortions are said to be rife in communities with some men fuelling the practice.

Sexual Right Centre (SRC), a non-government organisation that advocates for sexual reproductive health rights raised a red flag over illegal abortions.

According to the Termination of Pregnancy Act of (1977), a woman is only allowed to abort when she is a victim of rape and sexual abuse, the pregnancy emanates from an incestuous relationship or a threat to both the mother and unborn child.

SRC executive director Ms Musa Sibindi said her organisation conducted a research last year with its findings proving that men contributed to the termination of pregnancies.

“Speaking to women who have experienced unsafe abortion, they actually brought to the fore the pressures that they endure at the hands of their boyfriends wanting to have pregnancies terminated.

We always thought that the unmarried or the single, sex workers, and adolescents in schools are the only ones who commit unsafe abortions,” said Ms Sibindi.

“However, some of the people that we interfaced with are married women who reveal that their husbands would have told them to terminate the pregnancy.”

Ms Sibindi said in cases of extra-marital affairs, men force their girlfriends to do abortions for fear of destroying their marriages.

She said in some instances, men would rather accompany their pregnant “small houses” to consult doctors where these illegal abortions are done without the woman’s consent.

“There are reports of unsafe abortions being done in the backyards and even in the streets where people can access unsafe abortion services.

We just want to bring this to the attention of the public so that they are aware of the risks associated with unsafe abortion,” said Ms Sibindi.

“We also want people to be aware of the Termination of Pregnancy Act and its provisions which determine the grounds upon which someone is legally allowed to access safe abortion.”

Ms Sibindi said some of the maternal deaths are associated with illegal termination of pregnancies.

“We want to raise awareness on unwanted pregnancies and this will have a ripple effect on the health sector. We need to discuss this to ensure that it doesn’t continue to be a burden to the health sector,” she said.

Ms Sibindi said abortion is symptomatic of unplanned pregnancy hence it is equally important to also interrogate the parties involved including individuals involved in facilitating the illegal abortions.

“When you ask adolescents where they are accessing their unsafe abortions, they will tell you that there is someone who is facilitating that practice. Those people are among us, even when we have laws in place,” she said.

Ms Sibindi said there might be a need to review the Termination of Pregnancy Act to address the gaps that exist.

She said a lot of youths are putting their lives at risk by attempting to terminate pregnancies for fear of being forced into early marriages by their parents.

Dzamara’s Wife Still Hoping For Answers On Missing Hubby

Seed Co Board Chair, Mistress Deny Fraud Charges

By A Correspondent- The trial of Seed Co board chair Michael Ndoro and his alleged girlfriend Tunika Mkahanana on fraud charges kicked off yesterday with both pleading not guilty.

Ndoro is accused of fraudulently removing his former wife, Precious Ndoro from Zororo Energy Limited directorship and replacing her with Mkahanana.

According to the court, Ndoro and Precious formed a firm named Zororo Energy in 2018 in which each of them held 50% shareholding.

    But they divorced in 2019.

The High Court reserved the issue of equitable division of marital assets, including Zororo Energy, for future proceedings.

Ndoro, on the other hand, left their marital home with the company paperwork shortly after the divorce.

It is alleged that along with Mkahanana, he generated a fake company resolution purporting that Precious had resigned her directorship and shareholding.

In denying the charge, Ndoro told the court that he was the one who superintended over the registration of Zororo Energy as the company was his brain child.

He claimed that the company was registered at his instruction with the two directors and shareholders being himself and Mkahanana.

Ndoro challenged the State to avail any evidence to the contrary proving that he registered the company with Precious as a director and shareholder.

In her defence, Mkahanana told the court that she was appointed as a director of Zororo Energy company by Ndoro. Mkahanana denied any knowledge of the alleged previous registration of Zororo Energy company.

She further told the court that there is bad blood between her and Precious.

Catholic Priest In Soup Over Missing Church Funds

By A Correspondent- Masvingo Catholic priest has been accused of diverting funds from the church and Matibi Mission Hospital for personal use.

Health workers at the Catholic-run Matibi Mission Hospital claimed that the priest-in-charge, Father Maxwell Mabvuure, has refused to account for the money.

They accused him of interfering with the hospital workflow in order to access donor funds and results-based funds (RBF) meant for rural clinics.

The RBF programme is supported by the Health and Child Care ministry through the Transition Fund and Health Development Fund.

There is no transparency from church donations to RBF funds and people have been complaining about how priest Mabvuure is interfering with hospital workflows to divert funds to his personal use,” a senior health worker who requested anonymity told NewsDay.

“At one point, he was using a hospital ambulance (for personal business) before it was branded.”

Mabvuure denied charges of abusing church resources when contacted for comment.

“I cannot disclose figures that were received from donors, but the RBF funds come through channels and those funds never pass through my hands. There are people responsible for that,” he said.

“This is not a government hospital. It’s owned by the Roman Catholic Church, so as a priest, I am just in charge just like any other priest at a Catholic mission school or hospital. I have my car which I use and I don’t see the reason why I should use hospital resources for my personal benefits.”

“You Don’t Really Need To Invade A Country. You Just Capture The President”

    VP Chiwenga

Dunderhead got me thinking about who came up with the coup idea.

If a VP is fired like what happened to ED. The right thing to do is run for safety as he did. Was it his idea to come back or was it his master’s? With ED out of the system, did it mean no access to minerals?

Think with me for a second. Getting fired by Mugabe and going back there is not a walk in the park. It’s a suicide mission. Is it fair to say, with ED as VP, his external masters had access to Zim minerals? If ED had been kicked out of the system for good, would it have meant no access to minerals for his masters?

We could draw inferences that the national army was used to remove a Zim president by external and invisible powers. Think about this and how absurd it is. This is a first class traitorous ACT which again is contrary to the new Patriotic Act.

We can deduce that without ED in the system, Mugabe would not have allowed the country’s minerals to go to ED’s masters. The only way for the masters to continue having access to Zim minerals was for Mugabe to go. No one cared about the country’s constitution or the chaos that would happen after that.

A couple years ago, Zim sold a gold mine to the Chinese for $400 million. Now, Zim is about to sell a lithium mine to the Chinese for $1.2billion. Ewan Macmillan said he controls 90% of the government with the Reserve Bank Governor on speed dial. These days, you don’t really need to invade a country. You just capture the president.

ED has never respected the Zimbabwean constitution or the Zimbabwean way of doing things. He answers to his invisible masters who send private jets to collet the country’s minerals regularly. As billions and billions get taken out of the country, Zimbos lose out.

@edmnangagwa does not have an economic plan for the country. He does not have a vision for the country. His mission is to enrich his masters outside the country. This needs to stop, Zimbabwe is not poor but it’s poorly managed by a corrupt government.

Underperforming ANC Hell Bent On Stopping Regime Change In Zimbabwe; It’s Fiddler Crab Strategy

By Wilbert Mukori- “South Africa has a Zimbabwe problem – and no one is willing to help it, said African National Congress (ANC) secretary-general Fikile Mbalula as he called for an end to long-standing sanctions against the country,” reported Bulawayo 24.

It is very presumptuous, to put it mildly, for SA’s ANC leaders claim they have the power or authority to stop regime change in Zimbabwe by granting vote rigging Zanu PF political legitimacy.

    Prosecutor Bribing Man Nabbed

By A Correspondent- A Beitbridge man has been sentenced to one year in jail for attempted bribery after he tried to pay ZAR5 000 to a prosecutor to influence the trial of his brothers-in-law who were arrested for stock theft.

Edmore Makondo (32) was last week sentenced after attempting to bribe Beitbridge Area Prosecutor, Tinayeishe Matenga to influence a lighter sentence or the release of his brother-in-laws Lloyd Moyo and Thomas Moyo.

Magistrate Gwazemba suspended four months of the sentence on condition that Makondo does not commit a similar offence in five years he will effectively serve eight months. The ZAR 5 000 bribe money was forfeited to the State.

Prosecutor Ronald Mugwagwa told the court that Makondo went to Matenga’s office and offered her ZAR 5000 to influence Lloyd and Thomas’s case.

Matenga told Makondo that he should hand the money to someone else and she directed him to ZRP Beitbridge Superintendent Philisani Ndebele who laid a trap at N and R Complex.

Makondo went to the complex and met Ndebele who was not in uniform and handed him the money. He was then arrested.

His lawyer Jabulani Mzinyathi of Garikai and Company told the court that his client is a first offender and proposed that Makondo be spared jail and fined ZAR15 000.

Aspiring President Robert Chapman Served Child Support Court Papers

The officers physically chased him up, and their movement is reflected in the following live satellite tracker (officer reflected in the cop icon, that’s moving up the journey trail in the map).

    capped officer icon

Prophet In Soup Over Tropical Storm Freddy

By A Correspondent- An attempt by an apostolic sect member in Mabee area of Chipinge to perform rituals to allegedly stop cyclones from wreaking havoc was thwarted by irate villagers who were demonstrating, accusing the man of cloth of stopping the rains.

The Mabee villagers whose area lies under Natural Region Five experienced a prolonged dry spell and most of their crops were a write-off before the Tropical Storm Freddy-induced rains were received last weekend.

Following the announcement that heavy rains were expected to hit most parts of the country starting last week on Friday, Madzibaba Tamuka, believed to be Madzibaba Wenguwo tsvuku, performed some rituals in Muzvido Village under Village Head Cames Mabee’s area.

This did not go well with villagers who stormed the area and ordered the man of cloth to discard everything he had erected as ‘barricades’ against the storm and throw them in the bush.

Madzibaba Tamuka had put up a big clay pot wrapped with a red cloth at his shrine as a ‘barricade’ to Tropical Storm Freddy.

Irate villagers, accompanied by Mutape Cames Mabee last week on Thursday stormed Madzibaba Tamuka’s shrine and ordered him to remove his ‘barricade’.

They were arguing that Madzibaba Tamuka could not stop the rains as the community was in dire need of them. A witness, Hlupo Zembe of Garahwa area said villagers were irked by the prophet’s prayers to stop the rains.

Contacted for comment, Mtape Mabee said what Madzibaba Tamuka did was a taboo in his area.

“The area is dry and our crops suffered from moisture stress. The dry spell was also threatening our livestock. We really need the rains so that our livestock can have enough pastures. We will not allow this sort of behaviour in our area,” said Mutape Mabee.

Chipinge went on to receive some rains despite Madzibaba Tamuka’s intercession.

Repeated efforts to get comment from Madzibaba Tamuka were not successful as his Mozambican cellphone number was not reachable.

    “Dunderhead Got Me Thinking”

    Mnangagwa Replacement Due?

Will Emmerson Mnangagwa be replaced this time? The man has set March 18 for Zanu PF primary elections as the revolutionary party girds its loins ahead of this year’s elections leaving nothing to chance to ensure a resounding victory.

In his address to the 367th Session of the Politburo, which was also attended by deputy secretaries at the party’s headquarters yesterday, the President, who is Zanu PF First Secretary, said the members should gird themselves to work with structures in the “ongoing mobilisation, work towards the party’s thunderous victory in the upcoming 2023 Harmonised General Elections”.

The party manifesto is also being finalised as well as other critical aspects related to Zanu PF’s internal election road map.

“We as Zanu PF, we will have our internal primary elections from next week.

Zanu PF is geared and ready to mount an electric, thunderous and scientific, people-centred campaign.

Before the start of the Politburo, a moment of silence was observed to remember national heroes who passed on recently, namely the late Cde Betty Flora Mutero, Brigadier General (Rtd) Epmarcus Walter Kanhanga and Dr Christopher Chindoti Mushohwe. -state media

Pupil Commits Suicide After Being Bullied

Agony, grief, pain, anguish, sadness and anger aptly describe how the Saudan family in Bulawayo is feeling following the death of their 15-year-old son Jayden who committed suicide after complaining of bullying at his school.
Jayden who was a Form Three pupil at Hamilton High School in Bulawayo, drank a pesticide last Thursday at his family home in Montrose suburb. He succumbed to the poison the following day at the United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH) where he had been admitted.

Bulawayo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube said investigations are underway.

“We received the report about the death of the learner from Hamilton High School and we are conducting investigations on the matter,” said Inspector Ncube.

Jayden lived with his grandmother Mrs Sarah Saudan and his siblings Jada and Jody. His father is based in the United Kingdom.

A funeral service was held yesterday at Christ the King Parish where Jayden was an altar server according to the family. His body will be cremated today at the West Park Crematorium. This latest incident comes barely a month after another Hamilton High School learner fatally stabbed a Founders High School pupil, Wayne Ndlovu (16).

Wayne was pronounced dead upon arrival at the United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH). Two boys from Hamilton High School were arrested in connection with Wayne’s death and one of them has since appeared in court facing murder charges. The learner’s death was a culmination of a series of turf wars pitting pupils from various schools in the city.

A news crew yesterday afternoon visited the Saudan family at their home shortly after their arrival from a private service.

It was a sombre atmosphere as mourners, mostly youths relived the memories they shared with Jayden.

The deceased was described as a quiet person, a budding long-distance runner at Hamilton High School who aspired to be a pilot and loved his grandmother.

His sister, Miss Jody Saudan said since the beginning of the year, Jayden had started isolating himself. She said Jayden no longer wanted to go to school because his friend Richard, who they believe was protecting him from bullies at school had left after completing high school.

Miss Sudan said when Jayden opened up two weeks ago, it was after school authorities reportedly seized some of his stuff as a way of trying to force him to cut his hair.

“Jayden dyed his hair black at the beginning of the school term and the school authorities did not say anything about it when he was representing the school at an inter-school athletics competition,” she said.

“Jayden took long to tell us what was happening until the senior master took his satchel, blazer, tie, watch and phone about two weeks ago saying he must cut his hair.”

Miss Saudan said although Jayden complied and cut his hair, school authorities were not satisfied.

She said Jayden later opened up and told her about the bullying that allegedly bordered on racial slurs.

“He told us that he was being bullied by the prefects and was not getting any protection from teachers. My brother said he was being called racist names because of the colour of his skin,” said Miss Saudan.

She said the day his brother committed suicide will forever be etched in her mind.

“This was the day Jayden drank poison in the bathroom after returning from school. When I spoke to him outside the house under a mango tree, he seemed fine but he said he didn’t want me to share anything about the issues at school,” said Miss Saudan.

She said she could smell something like burnt rubber and I thought he had smoked something in the bathroom.

“I smelt the same thing on his clothes,” said Miss Saudan.

She said she asked her brother but he refused to talk before he went to lie down on his bed.

Miss Saudan said their maid alerted them after she found Jayden lying on his bed with his eyes rolling back into their sockets.

“Froth was coming out of his mouth and we didn’t know what he had taken. We searched the house after calling the ambulance. Our aunt found a pesticide container thrown in the dustbin,” said Miss Saudan.

Her sibling Jada said when they visited Jayden last Thursday night at UBH, he was looking fine.

“I went to visit him during which we spoke to each other and I even promised to play him voice notes of support from the family the following day. Sadly, about 30 minutes after we left the hospital, we received the news that he had passed on,” said Jada.

Jayden’s distraught grandmother, Mrs Sarah Saudan, who took care of the deceased and his siblings following the death of their mother in 2013, was at a loss for words.

“I’m drained and I can’t say anything about my grandchild. I’m devastated about his death. Jayden was quiet and never complained about anything,” she said between sobs.

Contrary to rumours that Jayden stole money from her grandmother, Mrs Saudan said she actually gave her grandson US$30 to buy files for Continuous Assessment Learning Activity (CALA) and pocket money.

The deceased’s aunt, Ms Corene Saudan said she felt disappointed and livid that her nephew had to endure bullying at the school which resulted in him committing suicide.

“We should make kids understand that they are going to school to learn not to engage in fights. When children go to school, teachers automatically assume the role of parents,” she said.

Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Dr Evelyn Ndlovu told Zimpapers Television Network (ZTN) that the ministry is investigating the matter.- state media

Mnangagwa MP Donates 84 Cows To Footballers Ahead Of 2023 Elections

Insiza District youths who participated in a football tournament meant to encourage young people to register to vote in this year’s elections have been empowered with 84 cows worth US$30 000.

The cows were bought using the US$60 000 that Insiza North legislator Farai Taruvinga donated to Insiza Grassroots Sports Development (IGSD) as part of a youth empowerment programme. IGSD then decided to use football as a tool to promote voter registration in the district as well as help arrest social ills among young people.

Speaking on behalf of Minister of Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation Kirsty Coventry, Chief Director in the Ministry, Benson Dube applauded Taruvinga for creating generational wealth for young people, adding that the gesture is in line with the fight against drugs and substance abuse.

“This (giving out cows) is a good gesture by the local Member of Parliament (Taruvinga), especially looking at his stance against drugs and substance abuse. He is targeting the youths who are the real targets of these drugs and substance abuse. So, really giving them something that is tangible, something that will occupy them. Right now after getting these cattle, they’re able to spend most of their time looking after them and that will prevent them from getting indulgent in drug and substance abuse,” said Dube.

Winners of the tournament which ran between September and December last year were Ward 12 who beat Ward 7 5-1 in the final. Ward 12 will get their 27 Brahmans on Sunday, March 12, with each member of the squad getting one beast.

Cows which were delivered at yesterday’s ceremony held at Filabusi Centre were the 17 belonging to losing finalists Ward 7 and third placed Ward 4 who got 12 cattle.

Chief Maduna also got a Brahman for being the “Top fan” as he attended all the games.

Fourth placed Ward 16 who won 10 cows, teams that finished fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth are due to get four cows each have been shown their cattle which are under quarantine and will get them once the veterinary services clears their zones.

The players from other teams are set to share at a later stage.

Taruvinga challenged the beneficiaries to guard their Brahmans “jealously” and make sure that they grow their herd.

“This is a startup and our young people deserve to be given startups as part of empowerment. Our President Mnangagwa has spoken a number of times about Zimbabwe being built by its people and we’re simply heeding to the country’s Number One citizen’s calls.

“Also, with the team I had, we thought deeply that since we’re facing a scourge of drugs and substance abuse among young people, what better way can we reward them and keep them busy after playing the tournament? So giving them these Brahmans was the best as it kills so many birds with one stone, fighting drugs and creating generational wealth,” Taruvinga said.

Thulani Sibanda, IGSD chairperson said they used part of the US$60 000 for capacity development initiatives as well as revamping Filabusi Country Club.

“What we’re planning is to have the youths competing throughout the year as we continue to empower youths economically.

“Besides these cows, we used part of the sponsorship to hold an administrators’ workshop for 77 sports administrators and 23 councillors for all wards. We had 44 referees being trained as we dream to have these competitions annually.

“Because we want to introduce other disciplines in future, eight boxing coaches were trained using the same funds and also rehabilitated grounds at all wards,” said Sibanda.

Meanwhile, boxers from Matabeleland South, amateur pugilists Sithandweyinkosi Moyo and Thabani Gumbi as well as professional fighter Lloyd Mujibilikwa gave an exhibition, doing pad works and sparring.

Last year, 18-year-old Moyo missed out on representing Zimbabwe at the Africa Union Sports Council Region 5 Under-20 Games after getting her passport late. She is regarded as one of the country’s brightest boxing prospects. -state media

Man Caught On Bed With Neighbour’s Wife

State Media – When Desire Moyo (28) caught his co-tenant Tendai Govere (22) sitting on his bed in his bedroom with his wife he allegedly assaulted him before he inserted a sex toy into his behind.
For his uncouth actions Desire appeared before Bulawayo regional magistrate Dambudzo Malunga facing two counts of assault and aggravated indecent assault.

He pleaded not guilty to both counts and was remanded in custody to Tuesday next week for trial.

It is reported that Desire’s wife Patience Ncube repeatedly phoned Govere while requesting him to visit her at her room.

The court heard that at first Govere was reluctant, but he finally visited her in the evening since Desire was not around.

It is said when he got inside Patience called him into the bedroom and told him to sit on the bed. But things quickly went nasty when Desire unexpectedly arrived. He allegedly started assaulting him with a leather belt and fists all over the body.

It is alleged that Desire who was seething with anger handcuffed him and continued to assault him.

Govere bled profusely as a result of the attack. Desire took the torture to another level when he allegedly removed Govere’s pair of trousers and inserted a sex toy repeatedly into his rear for two hours.

It is said while he was inserting the sex toy into his behind, he recorded a video of the brutal abuse.

Govere was rescued by his other co-tenants who phoned Khumalo Police Station and police officers swiftly reacted and arrested Desire.Constance Mathaba represented the State. -state media

Brave Child Jumps Off Kidnapper’s Moving Car

In a shocking incident, a nine-year-old girl in Bulawayo sustained a fractured arm, leg and a swollen face after escaping from the clutches of her kidnapper by jumping out of a speeding vehicle.

The heroic child and her guardian boarded a Nissan Probox from her school which is situated in Famona suburb heading to the city centre.

A source said: “The unsuspecting woman alighted from the car first believing that the child was following her but to her utter shock when she turned back to check the child she saw the car speeding off with her.”

The woman was left at a loss for words.

“I didn’t know what to do as I watched the car speeding. I tried to run after it but I could not. I was left speechless and worried that maybe the kidnapper had taken my child to kill her,” she said.

While the car was speeding, the child threw her satchel out of the window and when it reduced speed she bolted out of the car.

“She opened the door and jumped out of the car. Unfortunately her left foot got trapped and she was dragged for a few metres.

She later managed to pull out her leg,” said the source.

The brave child sustained a fractured arm, leg and a swollen face.

The incident was reported to the police. Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the incident and appealed for information that could lead to the arrest of the kidnapper.

“Anyone with information which could lead to the whereabouts of the driver of the Nissan Probox registration number AFW 1740 should phone any nearest police station or call us on 029-60358,” he said. -state media

Man Jumps Down 4th Floor Mnangagwa Mjolo Style

State Media – A Sakubva man died after he fell off from the fourth floor of Matida Flats while wrestling with his married lover’s husband early Sunday morning.

“Prophet” Predicts Victory For Mnangagwa In Coming Polls

PRESIDENT Mnangagwa is going to have a landslide victory in the upcoming harmonised elections and the results are going to irk the opposition and their partners into fomenting anarchy in the country, popular South African-based televangelist Jay Israel has said.

Although there is nothing out-rightly new in the election victory prediction for President Mnangagwa with New York-headquartered global ratings firm Fitch Solutions last week predicting a resounding win for President Mnangagwa, Prophet Israel, however, prophesied disharmony in the opposition camp that will lead to factions in the period just before the elections.

Zanu-PF has been working hard, building its cells and has engaged in a cell verification process while some from within the opposition have started defecting to the ruling party citing disorganisation in the opposition ranks.

“I have a message to the nation of Zimbabwe. I have received a prophecy about the upcoming election. The message is clear, President Emmerson Mnangagwa is going to win the next elections resoundingly. And let me hasten to say any prophet who is going to prophecy today that the opposition will win the elections, that person should be dismissed as a liar. God has already blessed President Mnangagwa with another term in office. I have also been shown that as we head towards elections there will be serious friction within the opposition led by Nelson Chamisa. Disagreements over a number of issues will arise which will lead to a near split. Due to the internal friction some opposition members will join the ruling party before and after elections,” he said.

The popular prophet has put his head on the block emphasising that, “if President Mnangagwa does not win the presidential elections, it means I am a liar and they must come and cut off my head.”

The 30-year-old Bulawayo-born charismatic preacher said he was coming to Zimbabwe where he plans to set up base in his home town.

“I am bringing a very serious revolution, not just a revival, it’s a revolution to Zimbabwe, especially Bulawayo because it has been left behind for a long time. There is a lot that I am going to do. There is a lot that Zimbabwe must prepare for. This is going to be like a tsunami. Many people are going to flock from different places, just coming to Bulawayo. Meaning to say traffic is going to increase. We are going to give business to hotels and the transport industry including airlines,” he said.

He added that he was also planning to revive the Bulawayo music industry.

“I am planning to set up a Jay Israel Records that is going to cater for all the Bulawayo musicians. I am going to sign them and record them for free,” he said.

Born and bred in Bulawayo, Israel dropped out of school owing to financial challenges when he was in Form Two at Pumula High School. At 18 years old, he moved to Harare where he later formed his own church, Palace of Glory, becoming the youngest church leader in the country. In 2014, he relocated to South Africa where he has been leading the Spirit Life Church.

Zanu PF Blames Chamisa For Chaotic Harare Parking System

By- The ruling Zanu PF party has accused the opposition-led Harare City Council of the chaotic parking system that residents have widely criticised, leading to skirmishes in the city centre.

Harare has been turned into a warzone with running battles between motorists and marshals from the newly established City Parking firm.

Complaints have been raised recently, forcing the government to probe into how the company and the City of Harare are operating and the firm’s shareholding structure.

Several motorists have also threatened to sue the local authority.

Zanu PF secretary for Local Government and Devolution Supa Mandiwanzira says the current situation is deplorable and the council was being pushed by greed, affecting the motoring public.

“We are very concerned with the way motorists in Harare and elsewhere are being treated by city fathers, particularly the parking marshals,” Mandiwanzira said.

He added: “The people are being abused and there have been skirmishes between citizens and marshals. This is not the way to treat the people.”

“I call the Mayor and his CCC officials to make sure people are not harassed. My message to the city fathers is ityai Mwari, musada mari.”

But what Mandiwanzira should have explained is that all the by-laws that local authorities use to run towns and cities are imposed on them by the Minister of Local Government, July Moyo, of Zanu PF in this case.

Kazembe Under Fire Over Interrupted Winky D Chitungwiza Show

By- The opposition has demanded that Home Affairs Minister Kazembe Kazembe be summoned before Parliament to explain why the Police disrupted Zimdancehall musician Winky’s performance at a show in Chitungwiza on Saturday.

Police officers, some in plain clothes, stormed Winky D’s performance in Chitungwiza and dragged him off the stage moments after he performed his politically-charged song, Ibotso.

Dzivaresekwa legislator Edwin Mushoriwa (MDC Alliance) raised the issue in the National Assembly as a matter of national interest on Wednesday. NewsDay quoted him as saying:

A few days ago, one of our famous musicians (Winky D) ‘s show was disrupted by the Police. Few hours after that the show of another musician Baba Harare was stopped.

Musicians are the core of the arts industry and they give entertainment to all of us. I am, therefore, requesting that the Home Affairs minister should come before this august House with a ministerial statement to explain whether there are now limitations or that musicians should no longer perform.

The provisions of MOPA (Maintenance of Peace and Order Act) do not require such interference that we are seeing.

The honourable minister should come before us and explain the position.

It’s actually a stab at the arts industry which has been generating something towards the gross domestic product.

Hope For ZEP Holders As South Africa “Agrees” To Inherit Zim Problems

By-The African National Congress has admitted that it would inherit the problems of Zimbabwe until that country’s politics settles.

Fikile Mbalula, the secretary-general of ANC said that Zimbabwe would remain South Africa’s problem for a long time.

This comes after South Africa indicated that it would not renew special permits it used for at least 200 000 Zimbabweans a decade ago. These permits (Zimbabwe Exemption Permit) expire on 30 June 2023.

Mbalula made the remarks while speaking at an ANC Youth League fundraiser in Johannesburg on Wednesday morning, reported Eye Witness News.

He said South Africa will have to deal with Zimbabweans coming into the country in search of better living and working conditions.

Mbalula also called for the removal of sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe by the West, saying the United States of America and Britain wanted regime change. He said:

We’ve got a problem here in Zimbabwe and it’s brewing. And you think it’s going to be the problem of the Americans; it’s going to be our problem for the longest of time.

Americans must give peace a chance… We need a roundtable; we need peaceful negotiations.

Zim Justice System, Not A Captured Sector

By Dr Masimba Mavaza-Once again, the total disrespect of our judiciary system reared its ugly head after the High Court ruled against an opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) member of parliament against the reputable Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC).

The usual suspects took to Twitter to confuse the people of Zimbabwe, accusing the judge of not seeing how they see things.

High Court judge Never Katiyo dismisses the application by Harare North Member of Parliament Alan Makharm demanding the release of the voter’s Roll.

The editors of several newspapers sought to sensationalize the judgement by saying the court refused Zimbabweans to inspect the Voters Roll.

The judge raised security concerns, saying ZEC is mandated to safeguard voter’s Roll, the predominantly electronic one, claiming it can be tampered with “in this age of social media”. But instead of explaining the judgement and the reason why the judge ruled that way, the lawyer for Markham said:
This is a life matter; we still need ZEC to give us, the people of Zimbabwe, a voter’s Roll,” Alan Markham’s lawyer Denford Halimani outside the High Court in Harare. He continued to say
“ZEC has refused to handover voter’s roll to the Harare North MP since request made 145 days ago” This is once again a misleading explanation by a man of justice.

The facts in Rusty Markham v Zec are that the applicant is the CCC Mt Pleasant North Member of Parliament. The applicant approached the high court seeking an order declaring as unlawful the action by ZEC of refusing to give an electronic voter roll to him. He argued that it is his right as a citizen and legislator. He stated that he wanted to analyze the errors, delimitations and trends. He further contends that the hard copy needs to be more bulky and convenient to use than an electronic one. ZEC insisted that they are still putting security measures as mandated by the Law, that is, section 21(7) of the Electoral Act.
Further, it is still premature for the applicant to rush to court when engagement is still ongoing. In analyzing the above, the court agrees with ZEC that they are mandated to safeguard the voters’ Roll given the security concern envisaged by the section cited above. They didn’t refuse perse, but they are in the process of putting the security measures. In any case, 58 day’s wait cannot be considered unreasonable. In the final analysis, the case came to court prematurely before exhausting the alternative remedies available. In light of that, the application did not succeed, and it therefore failed. It was consequently dismissed with no order as to costs.
This did not go well with the CCC foot soldiers, who took it to Twitter denouncing the judgement.
Leading the pack of justice abusers was Hopewell Chin’ono, who sought to undermine the court by saying that they were not ready to handle elections.
In a contemptuous Twitter, CHIN’ONO said
“Justice Never Katiyo has dismissed a Voters Roll release application by Harare North MP Alan Markham.
The judge strangely raised security concerns when an electronic voters roll when the constitution says it should be made available by @ZECzim to any Zimbabwean needing it.”
Mr CHIN’ONO tried his best to expose his total ignorance of the Law. He chose what he wanted people, especially his handlers, to know. He aimed to undermine the Zimbabwean justice system. He, in other words, is trying to make a case against any future ruling should the election result end up in court. It is a calculated attack on the rule of Law.
Another CCC foot soldier vented his frustration on Hopewell CHIN’ONO Twitter. “Dr @PedzisaiRuhanya is correct when he says; “If I suggest something here on Zimbabwe politics and it fails, I must have the dignity to accept my failed propositions than to point fingers at everyone bar myself continuously.”
“Going to court was never a bright idea. You pushed it now we lost and you are on top of the nearest mountain blaming the opposite for everything and not the captured justice system.”
@ZECzim will now say the court says we don’t have to avail the voters’ Roll.
Just like you campaigned for ZanuPf blaming the opposition for everything in 2018, you are blaming the opposition for everything in 2023 but under the guise of ‘advice’.”
Since you advised the opposition on going to court, at least have the decency of not blaming them for the results of judiciary capture!
And for tweeting this, you will blame me for bootlicking and gatekeeping. OK!”

This is clearly a contemptuous Twitt accusing the courts of capture. Such Twitts will never Ber Twitted in America or the United Kingdom, but the CCC members enjoy insulting the judiciary. This is a middle finger towards the rule of Law.
The rule of Law is arguably the most basic requirement of any civilized society, and an independent judiciary, to which access is available to all citizens, is an essential ingredient of the rule of Law. Freedom of expression is also fundamental in a democratic society, in which the courts and the media have vital and complementary institutional roles. Together, they hold power to account, enforce the rights of individuals and shed light on matters of public interest – and they also monitor each other.
The media have been described as the watchdogs of democracy, highlighting democratic deficits and demanding accountability from elected officials. And judges have no more important role than holding the Government to account when it does not adhere to the Law, uphold the rights of individuals, and give accurate and correct judgements; there is no more vital right than freedom of expression.
If a journalist like CHIN’ONO insults the justice system just because the ruling does not favour him, the rule of Law is under attack. He must research and ask for advice before rushing to Twitt’s falsehoods. The court did not say ZEC should not avail the voters’ Roll. The court said ZEC must be given time to prepare and put safety catches around the soft copy.
When a judicial system is correctly calibrated, the Law is applied by judges fearlessly, without favour and with respect. That is why judicial security of tenure is so fundamental: it ensures that a judge’s ability to stay in the post does not depend on pleasing the Government or the opposition.
Judicial independence ensures, in particular, that judges are free to conclude that actions taken or decisions made by the Government (or even by others) are in breach of the Law and that they are in particular in violation of individual’s rights, including of course their fundamental, or human, rights – and to decide on the appropriate remedy.
The idea of blaming judges and questioning their ethical responsibilities is seen by many
as impugning their integrity and their common sense. In particular, the distinction between the ethical requirements of public office and the legitimate sphere of political judgment needs to be better understood.
Government acts only within the scope permitted by the Law. The courts are often the only avenue through which this can be achieved in the light of their unique powers and institutional separation from the legislature and the executive. Judicial integrity and independence must be a priority in the fight to secure human rights at the domestic level. Hence the need for the total respect of the judges and courts.
In recent years, the freedom of the media and biased reporting by journalists have undermined the rule of Law. For instance, journalists and media outlets are now spreading “fake news” or other spurious offences.
The judiciary and the media have this in the joint. Unless they are undermined or silenced, they pose a genuine threat to democracy, create undemocratic regimes, and inspire fear in those who wish to retain or consolidate their power. The judiciary should be a bulwark against efforts to undermine freedoms.
A decision must be made. The facts have been assembled, and the arguments for and against the options are spelt out, but no clear evidence supports any particular one. Now people around the table turn to the judge. What they’re looking for is good judgment—an interpretation of the evidence which is available. Judgment is the ability to combine personal qualities with relevant knowledge and experience to form opinions and make decisions. It is “the core of exemplary leadership” judgement that enables a sound choice without clear-cut, relevant data or an obvious path. To some degree, we can all form views and interpret evidence. What we need, of course, is sound judgment.
Insulting judges is a foolish way of forcing the system to rule in favour of the losing.
The Zimbabwean judicial system is independent.

Ex-Banker’s Tweet Forces City Of Harare To Act On City Parking Fiasco

By A Correspondent| Ex-banker Nigel Chanakira’s complain against City of Harare over its controversial move to introduce reinforcement teams that have been moving around the central business district clamping cars, has forced the Mayor Jacob Mafume to announce new measures.

Posting on Twitter, Chanakira said he was asked to pay US$130 after his car was clamped after he failed to pay parking due to the absence of parking marshalls.

“Clamped in Harare whilst in a meeting after I failed to see the parking attended to pay & I was stuck for a solid 2 hours sorting this out City Parking asked for US$130. The fine is totally disproportionate to the offense. I’m perplexed that we can have such unjust city bylaws,” said Chanakira.

In response, Mafume said he will call a press conference to announce recommendations received from the public.

Mafume said as an authority, they need to strike a balance between fines and what people can afford.

“We have noted concerns of the public on this issue .We will be calling a Press Conference tomorrow together with city parking to announce the recommendations we have received from the public .We have to strike a balance between the fines and what people can afford,” said Mafume.

Two Die As Scott Sakupwanya’s Defies EMA Imposed Mining Ban

President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s ally Pedzisai Scott Sakupwanya, who owns Better Brands, is reportedly engaged in secret mining at Redwing Mine in Penhalonga, Manicaland province, despite closure of the mine by the Environmental Management Agency (EMA) in January following reports of fatal accidents involving artisanal miners.

Since Friday last week, two deaths have been reported in Penhalonga, one of them at Redwing Mine.

Manicaland provincial police spokesperson Inspector Nobert Muzondo confirmed the death of Eubret Pedro (37) and Kelvin Chapeta (36) in Penhalonga.

“On Friday at around 9pm, Eubret Pedro was in the company of his colleague Munashe Nyagura at Zaina Mine Shaft at Redwing Mine. Pedro went inside a 15-metre deep mine.

His colleague became suspicious when Pedro took long to come out of the mine. Nyagura reported to the Redwing Mine security, who reported the matter to police in Penhalonga, who then retrieved the deceased’s body,” Muzondo said.

“He had no visible marks. Maybe he suffocated or inhaled some gases. We have another sudden death which occurred on Sunday (March 5, 2023) of an illegal miner Kelvin Chapeta at Premier Central, Old Mutare in Penhalonga who was trapped in a mine shaft.”

However, Premier Central where Chapeta died is not in the Redwing Mine premises.

On reports of secret mining activities by Better Brands, Muzondo said: “We will make some investigations to find out whether it’s true or false, but ask them about it. We can’t comment on behalf of the company.”

EMA was forced to close the mine after pressure from civic society groups such as Centre for Research and Development (CRD), and Ziva Community Empowerment Trust who claimed that since 2020, over 100 deaths were recorded at the mine.

EMA Manicaland provincial boss Kingstone Chitotombe yesterday said the suspension was still in force.

“The suspension of Better Brands mining in Penhalonga is still in full force. We suspended them on issues to do with mining safety and regulations and environmental degradation,” he said.

Former Mutasa South constituency legislator Regai Tsunga (Citizens Coalition for Change) confirmed that Better Brands was involved in secret mining at Redwing Mine.

“EMA advised Better Brands to stop its mining operations over numerous deaths, but I have done my investigations and it seems they are mining unofficially. Just a few days ago, there were reported deaths, and there is an attempt by the company to suppress information on on-going mining operations. The safety of miners is not being considered,” Tsunga said.

Mutasa South MP Misheck Mugadza (Zanu PF) confirmed the death of the miner at Redwing Mine.

“I know of the death of Eubret Pedro, and he is an ordinary miner. He does not mine for Better Brands. I bought a coffin for him. What I have gathered is that there are some illegal miners who are sneaking into the mine during the night and they start mining. EMA should allow mining activities to resume because the company is complying,” Mugadza said.

Redwing Mine manager Alexio Guyo yesterday refused to respond to questions from NewsDay.

“Let them write what they want and they will get tired. Currently, I have officials from the Ministry of Mines and EMA. My boss Scott Sakupwanya said write what you want,” he said.

Guyo alleged that reports that they were mining clandestinely were sponsored by unnamed politicians in connivance with some civic groups.

“It’s unfortunate that we have people who have been fighting us. This is politically motivated from the opposition,” Guyo said.

Better Brands was recently granted a licence by government to build Zimbabwe’s second gold refinery in Bulawayo.

Sakupwanya is a key Zanu PF member and is expected to help finance the ruling party’s election campaign ahead of polls expected in August.

He has also been previously pictured with Mnangagwa at State House.

CRD director James Mupfumi said: “The culture of impunity orchestrated by greedy and political supremacy has replaced constitutionalism in Zimbabwe.

Government is turning a blind eye to the continued deaths at Redwing because elements in the State security system and political elite are benefiting from gold plunder at Redwing Mine.

To them, murder of desperate citizens by Better Brands’ dangerous mining pits doesn’t matter.”

Institute for Young Women’s Development Staff Hauled To Court Again

    IYWD statement
    IYWD statement

    Trial Day 1, 6 March 2023, Bindura

Yesterday we were back at Bindura Magistrates Court in solidarity with Sandra Zenda and Kudakwashe Munemo, our staff members, for the commencement of their trial in the matter in which they are jointly charged with convening a meeting without police clearance on 29 June 2022, charges which are clearly defective at law.

However, the state was not ready to proceed with trial, submitting that its alleged witnesses were not available. The two have since been further remanded to the 23rd of March 2023 for continuation of trial.

Meanwhile, our lawyers from the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) representing Sandra and Kudakwashe notified the court that they finally managed to get a transcript of the Magistrate’s ruling turning down the application to have the defective charges dismissed and are proceeding to apply for a review of the ruling at the High Court.

The application to have the charges dismissed is premised on the need to avoid contributing towards bad legal precedence at law by conceding to rulings which are not based on the law and constitution of the country.

    Resource Curse in Africa

By Jeremie Kalombo | The African continent is bestowed with so much natural wealth such as diamonds, coal, petroleum, natural gas, copper, and uranium to mention a few. Still, it has been the poorest continent in the world for so long. Africa is blessed with a wide variety of resources including human and natural resources. This begs the question of why these resources have not been transformed and utilized to the benefit of residents on the continent.
Africa is indeed a painful curse because it has plenty of natural resources, brilliant minds, and educated people but it is the poorest of the poor in the world.

The incidence of poverty in Africa is multifaceted and cannot be traced to a single cause. Factors including corruption, poor governance, and leadership, weak Institutions, intractable wars, and conflicts are the main cause of underdevelopment in Africa.

The resource curse according to the oxford dictionary refers to the paradox that countries with an abundance of natural resources tend to have less economic growth, less democracy, and worse development outcomes than countries with fewer natural resources.

Despite its claim to large reserves of resources, Africa remains the poorest continent in the world because of nepotism and corruption. The leaders of many African countries engage themselves in politics to satisfy their personal needs and fulfil the wishes of their relatives. Their focus is amassing wealth whiles in power and thus very little attention is given to state institutions that are relevant in building up the economies of African countries and making them sustainable. This systematically creates a situation of poverty and inequality where only a few influential and rich people in the society mostly politicians and their allies benefit from the political and economic system. A massive sum of money is used for the benefit of a few private individuals and their families. If this amount were to be reinvested in the African economy and used to rebuild factories, schools, and hospitals, I am sure it would result in economic growth.
An illustration of corruption is in Congo, whereby Joseph Kabila and his family are among the richest people not just in that country but on the entire African continent, owing their wealth to diamond mining this is a clear abuse of position, and yet Congo as a country which consistently records an unimaginable number of deaths of innocent lives due to poverty.
The other example of corruption is the former President of Nigeria, Sani Abacha who was estimated to be worth $20 million. If this massive amount would have been channelled for the provision of amenities in the country, Nigeria would not have the problems of erratic power supply, bad roads, poor health services, insecurity, high rate of poverty, and high level of unemployment the high rate of dropout of school-aged children. Hence this is a country where the majority are unemployed. A country where innocent lives are lost by the second simply because hospitals are not able to access the needed electricity in treating patients. This is a country where innocent people die just because they could not access a mere $10 for medical treatment of preventable diseases such as malaria, and yet leaders in charge of the national and natural resources are speedily making themselves billionaires by the day. How can a president, a public servant in such a country end up being a billionaire at the expense of innocent lives, if not for corruption?
Nigeria has taken giant strides backward notwithstanding the fact that it is a major petroleum-producing country. The plundering of its petroleum wealth has made Nigeria one of the world`s poorest nations. This shows that the African leaders’ focus is on amassing wealth whiles in power and thus very little attention is given to state institutions that are relevant in building up the economies of African countries. Africa has become a haven for despotic leaders who are using their political muscles to plunder the continent`s natural resources. In African countries, basic things like electricity and clean water cannot be provided by the government whilst the leaders build mansions and live a lavish life. Once they taste the power they won’t leave it as they thrive on intimidation and abductions.
African leadership is squarely to blame for the stagnation, decay, and backwardness in the continent. The African leaders hardly have the sense of serving the people instead, the rulers instill fear in the people who elect them.
Some leaders like Robert Mugabe destroyed the Zimbabwean economy reducing the once admired bread basket of Southern Africa into a basket case. Apart from the deep corruption in many African states, the existence of natural resources is a potential source of conflict and this tends to erode the government’s ability to function properly. The effects of conflicts on societies and communities continue to render many Africans poor. Several countries in Africa have been through civil wars at a point in time. When conflicts break out, the level of productivity and investment which is already low plummets even further. It becomes unattractive for private organizations to invest their capital in countries that are in conflict.

Governments also spend a lot of their limited funds on conflicts. Coupled with all these is the rise in unemployment. The effects of conflicts on societies and communities continue to render many Africans poor. Several countries in Africa have been through civil wars at a point in time. There have been long-running civil wars in African countries such as Angola, Burundi, Mozambique, Somalia, Sudan, and Uganda. In times of conflict, many state resources which could have been used to alleviate poverty levels in such countries are wasted on relief services and post-conflict peacebuilding in times of conflict there are violations of human rights, and child soldiers are denied access to education and freedom of association.

Africa remains the worst of all continents as if we are cursed yet we are not even cursed at all. There the continent needs changes for the country to have sustainable development and economic growth.

Africa is also underdeveloped because it is still colonized by its former colonizers.

France is incredibly desperate to hold on to its former colonies. That’s why France never actually gave their colonies the opportunity to be independent. It is nothing but an illusion that is supposed to make the people feel like they are free and independent and responsible for their own fate, while France still controls almost every significant aspect of their former colonies.

In 2008, former French President Jacques Chirac stated that without Africa, France will slide down into the rank of a third-world country. Industrial France has nothing to offer that would explain why it is still one of the richest countries in the world. The only reason the country is still as wealthy as it was 50 years ago being that the neo-colonial system puts about 500 billion US dollars a year from Africa into its treasury.

China is the main culprit where African resources are being exchanged for infrastructural project development. We now even have a case where China through its vast reserves and investment banks is buying out former colonial resource companies all over Africa and cheaply transferring vast amounts of resources to China. In return, they are building roads, railways, and schools and even provide food aid as if theirs is the concern for Africa`s development and poverty yet it’s about them.

The curse of Africa`s resources continues unabated while poverty continues to spread.
Unless we break the vicious cycle of greed, Africa will never reach its full potential. I suggest that inclusive, responsive, and accountable governments are a necessity for combating corruption in Africa. The importance of strong institutions and reasonably fair distribution of resources are also emphasized. Finally, there must be long-term plans to address poverty. Poverty is not only limited to Africa. The eradication or significant reduction in poverty levels in Africa cannot be done with simple and generalized solutions. There must be dedicated long-term plans with strong political commitments to alleviate poverty in the African region.

National efforts toward economic reform should be enhanced by regionally concerted support systems. Africa should show the need to expedite the implementation of sound proposals through greater commitment, speed, and effectiveness in translating good intentions into concrete and results-oriented actions on the continent.
