Stop Arbitrary Arrests

Arbitrary arrests and illegal detentions epitomize ZANU PF panic! CCC Namibia echoes.

26 April 2023

Social democrats who reside in Namibia condemn the arbitrary arrests, intimidation, and banning of political meetings and rallies ahead of the watershed elections in Zimbabwe. It is quite disturbing and infuriating that ZANU-PF has targeted the popular citizen’s movement only among an array of opposition political parties.

We have observed with patience the continued incarceration of Zengeza West MP Hon Job Saro Wiwa Sikhala, the illegal conviction of the interim national spokesperson, Advocate Fadzayi Mahere, state-sponsored arrests and jailing of innocent nominated candidates in Zaka South Ward 25 and Chivi District on concocted charges. Namibia district sees great panic in the regime that has gone politically bankrupt. We demand a fair electoral field to avert a disputed plebiscite in July or August.

Just yesterday, the desperate regime illegally arrested and detained the nominated aspiring Mp for the Zaka South constituency, Trust Manjengwa at his homestead in Ward 25 before releasing him. This is a clear testament pointing to the extreme cluelessness of the sadist regime. It is not a crime to assemble in private places such as homes. There are no arrests incurred by other opposition political parties except the political dynamo, the Citizens Coalition for Change under the able leadership of President Advocate Nelson Chamisa. This a clear sign that the People’s Party will never lose a free, fair, credible, and unfettered election in the motherland.

Namibia district supposes that the political behemoth should put political pressure on the regime to achieve minimum reforms ahead of the crucial poll. It will be a sham to go into these elections without changes in the way Zec conducts itself before , during, and after elections. The external assembly is quite aware of the strong push by Advocate Nelson Chamisa and the team that engaged the SADC Secretariat recently. Access to the electronic voter’s roll is a prerequisite for this impending election.

We can’t continue babysitting an exhausted and politically bereft political party at the expense of the downtrodden masses. It is now imperative to advocate for a clear roadmap toward free and undiluted harmonized elections. It is saddening that the electronic voter’s roll has been availed to ZANU PF alone by the captured electoral commission. This was unearthed when one of the contesting Mps was seen during by-elections with a voters roll with pictures of voters. The exhibited predisposition should be confronted before voting day. People in Zimbabwe are tired of poverty, abuse of human rights, rigged elections, and gross misgovernance.

SADC and African Union must demonstrate leadership in this regard. We anticipate hearing more from them as we prepare for undisputed elections punctuated by constitutionalism and the rule of law. Citizens should continue registering to vote until the proclamation of the election date. The regional and continental bodies should assist us to aid ourselves by safeguarding the will of the people. Our great movement has worked so diligently through Mugwazo, recruiting , mobilizing, and radicalizing citizens for a complete change. Citizens must not be deterred by any side shows, we urge change seekers to remain focused until victory.

In a nutshell, the abuse of human rights, the unprofessional conduct of the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC), the partisan behaviour of the ZRP, the biased operation of the judiciary, and the manipulation of traditional leaders by the Gold Mafia regime are pointers to a bloody disputed election in July. Let’s brace for dangerous freedom before, during, and after the plebiscite so that we will be able to defend our vote.

Our advice to change champions in Zimbabwe is that; as the party is finalizing the candidate selection process, foot soldiers must commence the recruitment of polling agents awaiting rigorous training. Diaspora assemblies should now gear up themselves to give material and financial support to the national democratic champions.

Ngarivhume Sentencing Set For Friday

My trial concludes, judgement on Thursday afternoon!

Early morning today (Tuesday) I received a routine threatening message from a South African number. The author said, by Friday you will be at Chikurubi Jacob, we will be done with you!

I had court today. My lawyers submitted their closing remarks, they then motivated them. Prof Madhuku and Moses Nkomo did the best any exceptionally good team can do. Thank you guys! I appreciate. Our defense was solid and the state could not clearly prove any case against us beyond any reasonable doubt.

The magistrate, who so far has handled the matter in a manner unsuspicious, then asked us to come back for judgement on Thursday afternoon 2PM.

It was at this point that I realized the text message I received early morning almost predicted the judgement day! It could be a coincidence I am not sure.

As I sat in court listening to the effort by the state to push for conviction without evidence I was reminded of the conversation I had yesterday with police in a deep rural outpost.

I was coming from Mateta 2 and l passed through a rural butchery and bought 8kg of goat meat. I love goat meat. I put the meat in a cooler box.

We got to this police road block and they checked the cooler box and saw the meet. They asked me to prove where I had gotten it. I told them and they wanted receipts from the butchery! Or they will charge me with stealing goat meet!

They tried to ask for a bribe of 5US, I refused. I was firm. They detained me saying they will prepare papers for theft of goat meet, 8kg.

A more senior officer came in the mix, he listened to the case. He asked for my details and I handed him my ID. When he realized I was Jacob Ngarivhume the atmosphere changed from arrogance to cooperation.

I said to the officer, how does it happen that you guys are so concerned about protecting eight dollars worthy of goat meat while billions of gold is looted daily in the country?

He explained to me that Ngarivhume, this country has gone to the dogs and the elites control everything.

He explained to me that there is no political will to deal with the gold smuggling because it’s done at the highest level.

He told me that in their district they were recently asked by the district police officer, dispol, that they must not allow more than two opposition meetings per month.

He then said to me change can only come if you in the political arena force it to happen. Otherwise from our side we keep working with the regime.

As I left that police road block I was left wondering what we needed to do to change this country. I was angry that they could hold me for more than an hour to account for 8kg worth of goat meat while the country is loosing millions of US dollars in gold daily.

I await to see my verdict on Thursday. I will see where I will be Friday morning! Whether I will be home or Chikurubi as the guy on the text message declared. Meanwhile it’s aluta continua. The struggle continues until real freedom comes.

Bitter Old Rivals Bosso, Chipangano Clash

Football fans are in for a treat this weekend with old foes Hwange and Highlanders set to rekindle their rivalry when the two regional rivals clash at Barbourfields stadium on Sunday.

League returnees Hwange who had a good start on their return to the top flight are hoping to rise to the occasion and match giants Highlanders when they square off this weekend.

The two teams are separated by just a point with Bosso third on 11 points while Chipangano have 10 points after three wins and a draw.

It is journey back to past when Highlanders and Hwange were the powerhouses in the Southern region and back then there was very little to separate them.

Hwange Head Coach Nation Dube who was part of the bruising battles of the past is taking a cautious approach fully aware of what awaits his greenhorns at Babourfields stadium on Sunday.

“We can talk about three wins but three wins is nothing, you can win those three games and get relegated,” said Dube.

“For now we are not counting more on wins but the result.”

“The quality of football we are playing is not up to scratch. Most of these boys are coming from division one where it’s all about kicking the ball upfront,” he boasted.

Sunday’s game will be spiced up by the fact that Hwange has two former Highlanders players in their team led by the current Premier Soccer league top goal scorer Brighton Makopa and goalkeeper Nedric Madeya.

Matches between Hwange and Highlanders have turned out to be a must watch on the domestic scene based on the rich history of the clubs.

Their rivalry dates as far as back as the 1950s, and was taken to Zambia where Highlanders and Hwange clashed in the Livingston Cup.

A considerable number of players have represented both sides among them former goalkeeper Chenjerai Dube, Coaches Cosmas “Tsano” Zulu and the late Barry Daka.- ZBC News

Sand Poachers Cause Havoc In Gweru

Sand poachers are wreaking havoc at a farm owned by the City of Gweru located just outside the central business district, amid fears that the destruction might get to the city’s aerodrome.

The sand poachers, who used to operate under the cover of darkness, have become so daring to the extent of performing their illegal activities in broad day light destroying thousands of acres of land adjacent to the Gweru aerodrome.

Farmers have not been spared as there are no clear land reclamation efforts to protect livestock.

“These people are doing whatever they want to the farm. Our greatest fear is that our cattle might fell in the ditches. We have experienced several such cases. We also fear that the pastures are being destroyed. We appeal to authorities to do enough in dealing with this menace,” noted an angry farmer.

“We have devised a new way of preserving our cattle through herding them every day to prevent them from falling in these pits. These guys are just but everywhere and nothing much is being done to deal with the problem. It is about time this practice is put to an end,” said another.

The situation has also degenerated into a cat and mouse game between sand poachers and law enforcement agents.

“Apart from the aerodrome we now fear that Ngamo dam is already having problems of siltation,” said Environmental Management Agency Midlands Provincial Spokesperson Mr Oswell Ndlovu.

“This a major source of worry to us as an authority. We are trying everything in our powers together with the law enforcement agents but the problem still continues. We will be increasing our visibility in problematic areas so that we nip the problem in the bug,” he added.

The sprouting of new suburbs like Tatenda Park and Hertfordshire seem to have triggered the upsurge of sand poaching in the City.- ZBC News

Chikanza is one of the key researchers in the high-level production that has exposed President Emmerson Mnangagwa-led’s administration for the state-orchestrated looting of one of the country’s precious minerals.

Early this week, Simba raised a red flag after receiving calls from a suspected Zanu PF government spy in the UK.

Nurses Blame VP Chiwenga For Blocking Salary Increment

By A Correspondent- Some disgruntled nurses are accusing Vice President Constantino Chiwenga of blocking salary and allowance increases in the health sector as punishment for past strikes and demonstrations.

This comes after the government increased salaries for teachers, police officers, the army, and pensioners, with no mention of the health sector.

A letter dated April 4, 2023, stated an increase in cushioning allowances to US$200 and a US$250 COVID-19 allowance, which nurses will not be receiving for unspecified reasons.

These increases were set by the National Joint Negotiating Council (NJNC), but negotiations for health sector employees who have threatened industrial action since Chiwenga’s appointment as Health Minister have yet to occur.

Reads the government memorandum on the salary changes:

The approved review is as follows; 100% remuneration review to gross ZWL emoluments from Deputy Director and below for all sectors.

Reviewing Cushioning and Covid Allowance from US$200 to US$250 per month across all sectors, excluding health sector, whilst Government Pensioners will be paid US$100 per month in USD Nostro Accounts paid concurrently with ZWL$ salaries. Health Sector shall be paid a USD Allowance of US$200 in the same manner.

Teachers will receive US$80 teaching allowance payable at the prevailing inter-bank rate with effect from 01 April 2023. The Teaching Allowance has replaced the previously introduced School Fees payment facility hence the facility will be discontinued from second term.

Please note that the Transport, Housing, Representation and Special Civil Service Allowances have been consolidated to Administration and In-Service Allowances and is calculated as 30% and 70% of basic salary respectively.”

A nurse at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals, who wished to remain anonymous, said that many nurses believe that Vice President Constantino Chiwenga is punishing them for past strikes and demonstrations demanding better wages, working conditions, and allowances. The source also mentioned unconfirmed rumours of stricter verification for those seeking to leave the country.

The nurse told NewZimbabwe:

The general feeling is that the Health Minister is punishing us.

Remember he once fired some of us, and was a key advocate for government to criminalise industrial action and is on record saying takajayidzwa (we were spoiled).

It does not make sense that all other civil servants would have their salaries and allowances increased and we do not get communication as to what government is thinking about us.

A doctor at Sally Mugabe Hospital has expressed frustration saying the Zimbabwean government was working tirelessly to demotivate the health sector.

Meanwhile, teachers have dismissed the salary increase they received and are demanding US$1 260 per month to cover their monthly expenses, including rent, medical aid, funeral cover, transportation, food, school fees, and clothing.

“My Salary Is Meagre”: 1 Commando Soldier Tells Court

By A Correspondent- A 1 Commando soldier has told the court that he is earning a meager salary which is not sustainable to effect the requested maintenance variation for one of his 3 children who is living with a disability.

The Zimbabwe National Army member Tichaona Chituu in his notice of opposition offered paying ZW$50 000 from the current ZW$30 000 that he has been contributing towards the upkeep of his minor child aged 4, who cannot walk, talk and is still using diapers. He had also been paying US$40 which he topped up with US$10.

The applicant Prisca Dausi had been seeking a maintenance variation of ZW$150 000 and US$100.

The magistrate granted the order in favour of Chituu.

In his respondent’s Notice of Opposition prepared by Pundu and Company Legal Practitioners, Chituu did not dispute that the general cost of living had risen.

He said:

“However, I beseech the court to consider that the cost of living has gone up for myself as well, and yet as my pay slip reflects, my earnings have not increased. The amount of money I earn on a monthly basis being as I am a duly attested member of the Zimbabwe National Army has not materially changed since the previous order for variation was granted.”

Chituu told the court that his financial circumstances remained the same as when the previous maintenance variation order was granted in September 2022.

“I remain a father of two other children of school going age. The general upkeep of those children including their school expenses, rentals and related expenses are covered by that same meager salary that I earn. I appreciate the fact that the economy is currently tumultuous and finances are generally hard to come by.”

The matter was heard at the Civil Court 6, Thursday 27 April 2023.

The applicant was being represented by a lawyer from Justice for Children Trust who was in no show.

No Freedom For “Child Bride”

By A Correspondent- At the age of 14, Thembi Manyati (not real name) of Mafararikwa Village in Marange was married off to a polygamous man who was 30 years her senior.

Although those close to her say Manyati used to be bubbly and cheerful while growing up, the abuse she has endured at the hands of her husband who is now 63 years old has reduced her to a former shadow of herself.

The woman clearly needs counselling for her to be able to return to her old self again.

Sadly despite the physical and emotional abuse she has endured for the past 18 years, Manyati does not dream of freedom.

Her mind does not even realise that she is a victim of abuse as she literary worships her husband.

It seems like Manyati has become accustomed to her captor and feels that the abuse is an expression of his l0ve for her.

According to health experts, Manyati is suffering from Stockholm Syndrome, a coping mechanism for someone in an abusive situation.about:blank

People develop positive feelings towards their captors or abusers over time when they suffer from the syndrome.

This condition, according to Cleveland Clinic, usually applies in situations such as child marriages, child abuse and relationship abuse.

In Zimbabwe, child marriage is worsened by poverty.

In disadvantaged families, girls are sometimes married off to reduce the perceived economic burden, with their bride price used as a means of survival for the family.

In most cases, the underage girls end up being grateful to the men for “uplifting them out of poverty”.

In an interview with The Manica Post, Manyati revealed that while she dissuades young girls from marrying young, she will not leave her marriage as she believes that no one l0ves her more than her elderly husband.

“My mother died while I was only five and my elderly maternal grandmother took care of me and we were very poor. I never knew my father. He only showed up after my marriage to claim the bride price. He did not care that I had married young, all he wanted was his bride price. Who can blame me when I say my husband l0ves me?” asked the woman.

Manyati had her first child at 15.

Having been orphaned at an early age, Manyati survived on hand-outs from fellow villagers.

“Now that I am old enough, I have come to realise that those who married me off wanted me out of their lives as I was a burden to them. They thought that if they married me off, my husband would look after my elderly grandmother and cousins.

“Since I had dropped out of school upon the completion of my Grade Seven, I thought marriage was the best escape route for the poverty at home. However, if my life was different, I would not have married young,” she said.

Manyati said although she had thought that marrying at the tender age would eliminate her family’s poverty, her situation got worse as she now had to take care of her new-born baby with no income.

“I was told by local women that my husband would transform our poor family’s lives, but it turned out to be the opposite. We lacked everything, the poverty at my husband’s home was worse and I had to go back and ask my elderly grandmother for some money to look after my new family. However, with time, I accepted the reality and became content with the little that my husband availed for me.

“My marriage is still subsisting and I do not think I can leave my husband despite the challenges that I am facing, including the physical and verbal abuse. I l0ve him and I also l0ve my four children. Where will I take these four children if I leave my husband? I would rather endure the beatings and insults. I also do not think that I would be okay with leaving my children suffering at the hands of my husband’s first wife,” she said.

In an interview, Chief Marange said Stockholm Syndrome has become the order of the day in his area.

He said there is need to empower the girl child so that she is not easily lured with promises of a good life by older men.

“We fight child marriages day and night in this area and I have referred a lot of such cases to the police. However, it seems as if we are fighting against strong winds. After rescuing the girls, you will find them back with their elderly men.

“Arrests and fines are not deterrent enough to perpetrators. We need to continue raising awareness against child marriages among our communities and the girl child herself because once she is tempted by goodies, she is drawn to the old man,” said Chief Marange.

The Manica Post recently took the fight against child marriages to schools in Marange.

Mrs Wendy Nyakurerwa-Matinde, Editor of The Manica Post, said as a family newspaper, they are committed to actively fight child marriages.

“We want all girls, regardless of age or circumstance, to stay in school for as long as possible and achieve their full potential. The community’s job is to protect the girl child and because we are part of that community, we have joined the fight,” she said.

Speaking at an anti-child marriages public meeting hosted by The Manica Post, Advocate Tabitha Chikeya-Mwayera said: “Marrying off, marrying or being an accomplice in marrying off someone who is under 18 is a criminal offence where one can be imprisoned. Our laws are now progressive in terms of protecting the girl child, so as the community, you should not be found wanting,” she said.

According to the Zimbabwe National Statistical Agency, 33,7 percent of girls aged under 18 are married, translating to one in every three girls.

Tynwald School Bus Driver Sentenced to 5 Years In Jail

Tynwald High School bus driver, Chamunorwa Machimbidzofa, has been sentenced to five years imprisonment by a Nyanga magistrate.

Machimbidzofa was behind the wheel when the Tynwald High School bus was involved in an accident in Nyanga which claimed the lives of six learners and one teacher in 2022.

Cephas Chimedza Speaks On Harare Derby

Former Dynamos and CAPS United left back Cephas Chimedza has invoked the spirt of the popular Harare derby saying the current crop of players should rise to the occasion when the two giants clash at the National Sports Stadium on Sunday.

The first edition of the Harare derby in 2023 is set for this Sunday at the National Sports Stadium.

It could not have come at a better time for CAPS United who are at the top of the Premier Soccer League log standings and undefeated.

The story is however different for Dynamos who are stuttering after picking up just two points in their last three matches.

However, derbies usually tear the form book apart and it is usually about the team which turns up on the day.

Derbies also have their fair share of drama and often produce heroes and villains.

Most football fans will remember the 2009 incident when the then Dynamos left back Sam Mutenheri’s career came to a scratching halt on a torrid afternoon in which he was tormented by CAPS United’s Oscar Machapa as the Green Machine romped to a two-nil win on Easter Monday.

A year later Dynamos ended a four-year winless run against Makepekepe after Murape Murape scored the solitary goal to cement his DeMbare legacy.

In 2016, CAPS United confirmed their title credentials after coming back from three goals down in the last five minutes of the game to get a point.

No one summed up what the Harare Derby means than Cephas Chimedza, a player who started off at Dynamos before crossing the great divide to join CAPS United.

“It is a special match to be involved in especially if you grew up in the set-up from the juniors because you are always reminded of the need to beat your city rivals,” said Chimedza.

“It is also time for pride and getting the bragging rights in the City in short you have to be the Kings of the City.”

Match-day seven kicks off on Thursday with a clash of new boys; Simba Bhora and Green Fuel at the National Sports Stadium.

Saturday sees Bulawayo Chiefs taking on Yadah at Luveve stadium, while Manica Diamonds host Black Rhinos at Gibbo stadium with the last match of the day pitting Ngezi Platinum Stars and ZPC Kariba at Baobab Stadium.

Action continues on Sunday when Triangle take on Chicken Inn at Gibbo as Highlanders battle Hwange at Barbourfields stadium and Cranborne Bullets clash with Sheasham at Baobab stadium.

Match day seven ends on Monday as Herentals welcome FC Platinum to the National Sports Stadium.- ZBC News

Sungura Star Opens Up On Alcohol Addiction

Alcohol addiction has affected the ordinary and famous alike with devastating consequences for several entertainers worldwide.

Local celebrities are not immune to the scourge; with promising Sungura musician Paradzai Mesi admitting that the love of the beer bottle has turned his life upside down.

Paradzai Mesi might be known for being a talented sungura musician behind hits such as “Tiri Huruva” and “Masimba Towedzera”, but the musician has also risen to notoriety for alcohol abuse, a habit which has negatively affected his career.

Last week the “Pahukama” hitmaker hogged the limelight for the wrong reasons, after he was arrested and charged with theft for stealing groceries from a tuckshop in Glendale.

A visit by the ZBC News to his Kiaora Farm home in Glendale, opened a can of worms, with the man who seems to have exchanged his guitar and microphone for a beer bottle, attributing the recent unfortunate incident to drunkenness.

“I was very drunk and it was late. I met some guys who said they wanted to take me home. They took me to the complainant’s home and lied to me that we had arrived at my residence. I slept on the floor and the next morning I woke up surrounded by a lot of people. I was accused of stealing from the shop but I don’t know what really transpired since I was drunk. The shop owner has however withdrawn the charges,” he said.

Born in 1972 in Mazowe District, Mesi assumed the reigns at Njerama Boys in 2000, three years after the band was formed.

They released an album “Zviripachena” which propelled them to stardom.
Mesi became a household name, writing his own success story with several properties to his name.

However, in the late 2000s, Mesi fell from grace forcing him to relocate to a farm in Glendale.

Noone summed up his downfall better than his neighbours who have seen light turning into darkness right before their eyes.

“Mesi is gifted but it seems he continues to struggle with his drinking problem which is ruining his career. However, we will not give up on him until he rediscovers what made him the household name he is up to this day,” said a neighbour.

His son Willis, who is also part of Njerama Boys, also described his father as a drunken master whose penchant for illicit brews is impacting negatively his music career.

“He spends most of his time drunk with his favourite brew Ranger. My father is so talented that if it wasn’t first his love for beer, he could be a very successful musician,” he said,

His manager Andy Alfred is also a worried man.

“We are trying to rehabilitate him because beer is affecting his career. The man is super talented but his excess love for beer is destroying his career. However, we are doing our best to ensure that his career is revived. This weekend we are having a show in Chitungwiza and I encourage our fans to come and support the man,” said Alfred.

The musician has however not given up as he reckons his best days are yet to come if he gets the necessary support.

As ironic as it might sound, Mesi who is adamant the brown bottle isn’t doing his career any harm, urges young artists to desist from alcohol abuse.

“I would like to urge young artists to desist from alcohol abuse. It is not good for them.”

The musician who was part of the recently held Independence Gala, seems to be determined to revive his music career since he is set to release an album in June, which will be preceded by a single.

Mesi is also set to perform at Club Joy Centre in Chitungwiza this Friday.- ZBC News

ZANU Reverses Own Elections

The delimitation of electoral boundaries affected Zanu PF internal elections forcing the ruling party to postpone the polls and also ordering a rerun in some provinces due to a plethora of challenges.
In an internal communique dated 25 April 2023, the party’s political commissar Mike Bimha revealed that there were challenges in the local government primary elections in some areas.

Bimha said that due to the challenges they encountered fresh polls will be conducted on 6 May 2023.

The development comes after a week ago, the Zanu PF politburo endorsed the final list of candidates.

“The Department has carried out an analysis of the results and is satisfied that the election process went on well in most of the Wards. The Department is, however, alive to challenges encountered during the electoral process,” said Bimha.

He said in some cases, there was no absolute winner due to equal votes by candidates while in other cases, uncontested winners have pending court cases and hence the department in such cases recommends re-runs.

“In view of the above, all Provinces are instructed to prepare for these Primary elections or in some cases primary election re-runs to be conducted on 6 May 2023. Provinces will be furnished with information pertaining to wards where Primary elections or Primary Election re-runs should be conducted in due course,” he said.– CITE

George Charamba Scotfree As Junior PSMAS Managers Arrested

As the Shona adage says, roasting is only for George Charamba, those in lower ranks will blow out the fires – Police this week picked up for questioning three Premier Service Medical Aid Society (PSMAS) managers over allegations of fraud, corruption and criminal abuse of office.
The three, who are still assisting with investigations, are Polite Mugwagwa, Nhamo Marandu and Stanley Dehwe.

Police and the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commissioner (ZACC) are jointly conducting the investigations.

The three were said to have been picked up on Monday by the police and yesterday they were still assisting with the investigations.

National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the investigations were in progress.

“We are conducting investigations and we can’t say much at the moment,” he said. “We have picked up some suspects for questioning over allegations of fraud, corruption and abuse of office. We will, however, release more details tomorrow.”

In an interview yesterday, ZACC spokesperson, Thandiwe Mlobane confirmed that they were conducting joint investigations with the police over the PSMAS case.

“What I can say is that ZACC and the ZRP are doing joint investigations over alleged corruption and abuse of office,” she said.

This is not the first time that some bosses at PSMAS have been arrested for various offences, including fraud.

In September last year, four executives of PSMAS were arrested on charges of fraud, forgery and theft over payment of US$486 000 and almost $14,5 million in board holiday allowances that should never have been paid, a fake audit report and allowing themselves 15 beneficiaries on one subscription.

The suspects were PSMAS Holdings CEO Farai Muchena, PSMAS group strategy and performance executive Victor Chaipa, PSMAS managing director and executive director corporate affairs Shingai Mabuto and PSMAS company secretary Cosmas Mukwesha.

There were three alleged crimes, each involving at least one of the four, that have seen Premier Service Medical Aid Society taking a serious hit.

The police arrests were initiated by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission.

Muchena, Chaipa and Mabuto were jointly appearing on four counts of theft after they allegedly awarded board members thousands of dollars in holiday allowances that they were not entitled to.

Mabuto was also appearing on a separate charge of fraud of $6 797 481 after he allegedly added five medical aid beneficiaries on top of the maximum of 10 stipulated by PSMAS.

Muchena and Mukwesha are also jointly charged with fraud and forgery after they allegedly tendered Premier Service Holdings company annual returns to the Registrar of Companies purporting that they had been audited by Grant Thornton, while knowing that no audit had been undertaken.

Circumstances leading to their arrest are that sometime in 2003, PSMAS formed PSMI, as its medical investment arm. PSMAS owned the entire shareholding.

The company was set up to own facilities such as clinics, pharmacies and hospitals that were needed by PSMAS members, most of whom are civil servants.

But then PSMI later formed other investment vehicles, Clay Dust Mining Company and Premier Service Microfinance that had little to do with treatment and medical aid.

In February 2019, a holding company called Premier Service Holding Company was formed to manage the activities of the society’s subsidiaries, which included PSMI.

Between January 2015 and January 2017, PSMI appointed Colonel Wellington Tutisa, Cecilia Alexander, Richard Gundani, Vimbikai Magnes Kusema, Loveness Dumwa, Miriam Chahuruwa, and Dr E Purazi as board members on contracts that extended to January 2018.

The terms and conditions of service for the board members were guided by 2015 PSMI board terms of reference and the board fee structure.

In December 2018, Muchemwa, Chaipa and Mabuto allegedly diverted PSMI funds by approving yearly payments of holiday allowances to board members, well knowing that they were not entitled to benefit from such allowances.

They allegedly paid US$45 902 to board chairman Col Tulisa, US$22 249 to vice chairman Cecilia Alexander and US$6 746 to each of the other board members for a total of US$243 000. PSMAS allegedly lost US$115 373.

In 2019, they also allegedly approved payment of $243 000 and $5 084 176 in 2020.

The court heard that in 2021 $9 372 522 was paid in holiday allowances.

Chiwenga Blocks Nurses’ Salary Increase

By-Vice President Constantino Chiwenga stands accused of blocking salary and allowance increases in the health sector as punishment for past strikes and demonstrations.

Maruwa To Stay- DeMbare

Dynamos have dismissed any talk of head coach Herbert ‘Jompano’ Maruwa’s possible dismisal, amid pressure from some of the club’s fans following the team’s 3-2 loss to Bulawayo Chiefs on Sunday.

A section of the Dembare fans waited for Maruwa at the exit point after the loss to Chiefs, calling for his sacking.

The supporters, who also booed their own players after the final whistle, wanted to confront the former Black Rhinos coach and Police had to be on high alert.

Speaking to NewsDay, Dynamos executive chairperson Moses Maunganidze said the club still has faith in Maruwa and urged the frustrated fans to give the coach time to turn things around.

“For a club like Dynamos, expectations are always high among its stakeholders, moreso the fans, so it’s understandable when such things happen,” Maunganidze told the publication.

“Mind you, the team’s inspiration is derived from its huge support base and we want to thank our fans who have shown a lot of interest by coming to watch their team play. It’s a new-look team that started the season well and the coaches and the players know what to do in order for the team to be at the top.

“We have just played five league games this season and it’s in our interest to be together with other teams in the top pack as the race continues.”

Dynamos started the season brightly, beating Hwange 0-1 in the season opener before smashing newboys Sheasham 4-0 in the second match.

This was followed by successive goalless draws against Simba Bhora and Cranborne Bullets before losing to Chiefs last weekend.

Tottenham Sack Coach

Tottenham Hotspur has fired interim manager Cristian Stellini after losing 6-1 to Newcastle at the weekend.

Stellini had taken over the reins following the departure of Antonio Conte last month.

Ryan Mason will take over as their second interim coach of the season.

A statement by the club chairman, Daniel Levy reads: “Sunday’s performance against Newcastle was wholly unacceptable. It was devastating to see. We can look at many reasons why it happened and whilst myself, the Board, the coaches and players must all take collective responsibility, ultimately the responsibility is mine.

“Cristian will leave his current role along with his coaching staff. Cristian stepped in at a difficult point in our season and I want to thank him for the professional manner in which he and his coaching staff have conducted themselves during such a challenging time. We wish him and his staff well.

“Ryan Mason will take over Head Coach duties with immediate effect. Ryan knows the Club and the players well. We shall update further on his coaching staff in due course.”- Soccer24 News

Under the banner of ‘The Big Catch-Up’, WHO is working with partners to support countries to get back on track to ensure more people are protected from preventable diseases.

We need to act now to catch-up the millions of children who missed out on vaccines during the pandemic, restore essential immunization coverage to at least 2019 levels and strengthen primary health care to deliver immunization.

The ultimate goal of World Immunization Week is for more children, adults – and their communities – to be protected from vaccine-preventable diseases, allowing them to live happier, healthier lives.

Dynamics Of Gold Mining

Gold miming is the new industry that is keeping the country afloat with main beneficiary being what l call the “bank” .

The bank are those that buy Gold from the small scale mines through a long list of mediation or middleman that they themselves will never meet . Because of availability of money lots of cash a lot of antisocial activities take place which are “normal” to the miners themselves but are slowly destroying the environment and society itself .

I will briefly list them then cover the causes and where possible the solution.
1 land degradation
Gold is not always there sometimes you hit a dry spell because of different reasons ranging from hitting a barren level at the reef , striking water veins that stops mining itself or sudden collapse of shafts inorder to sustain themselves they start digging alluvial Gold in what is known as rubble or bhalaza found in loose stones this causes serious land degradation because it usually covers vast lands needs no capital just a shovel and a pick . When this happens no official can monitor or stop that because of two reasons first its the “bank “.

Second one this is source of livelihood very sensitive it’s a matter of survival here not just mere talk where else can they go or do to survive. Most claims are in remote areas access is difficult by law enforcement agencies but the damage to the environment is huge including tree cutting.
2 in proper use of PPE
The main purpose of PPE is to protect you not for officers proper use of PPE is crucial in the event of an accident.

Helmet is meant to cover the head must be worn all the time and firmly to the head just in case a loose stone falls to your skull or when you fall off on your way into the shaft . Most cases people fall head first and hit the ground with bare head when a loose Helmet has fallen off. Helmet should be tightened all the time .
Safety shoes .

Its now a new norm to use safety shoes and worksuits as fashion gear but the whole purpose of safety shoes is to protect toes and feet from any Falling objects , a proper safety shoe must have metal infront for those using gumboots should also use type with metal infront at all times whether hot or cold weather’s.

3 Disused shafts crisis
When a shaft is no longer safe for use it must be refilled and Lan rehabilitated which is theory because in reality all the rocks mined would have been transported to another what do you use to refill at whose expense. Such shafts usually have tempting pillars of rocks with visible gold .

Note this is a pillar left to support the shaft but it has tempting gold which cannot be resisted in tough times. Most fatal mine accidents are caused by these and both the mine manager and mine owner won’t be aware of such activities of mining a pillar until disaster strikes and life is lost and mine is suspended.

Child labour crisis.
Most activities if not all are done by self employed people no known employer hires people those looking for way of survival employ themselves.

The issue of age is no longer considered because kids ranging from 12 to 17 who drop out of school for different reasons end up employing themselves in this lucrative but dangerous business.

Since they are their noone can prevent child labor either they work at the mine or find a worse source of income in crime ranging from stealing, armed robbery to stock theft . This has no solution unless the ministry of social welfare intervens to solve not arrest . This is coupled with undocumented mine workers with absolute no form of registration from birth certificate upto national ID .

Reasons vary some never applied for an documentation because poverty and lack of knowledge some cases its the father without ID , then kid automatically no registration In worse cases upto grandson . Some cases particulars could have been lost while moving around or burnt in plastic houses .
Complex societies .

Since mining is now a source of livelihood people travel around to look for gold and end up building homesteads that complete a village with people from different backgrounds, different tribes , different cultures and norms thereby creating what l call complex societies.

These have have no culture a new culture is developed subconsciously where the bank is the law around . Respect for marriage people marry , dirvoce and remarry in such a short time such that marriage looses absolute value. Plight of the girl child is threatened child are there but rare . What’s common is child sexual exploitation .

The majority know its criminal offense but somehow ignore usually money (bank) is the silent control here .

These complex communities are haven of criminals though they are a small percentage of gold mine infact insignificant proportion but they hide there hiding from offense ranging from murder , robbery ; theft and so on…

ZEP Holders Speak On Repatriation

By- The holders of the Zimbabwe Exemption Permits have chosen not to request to be repatriated home as they are waiting for the outcome of a legal challenge against the termination of the ZEP in the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria.

Nearly 180 000 holders of ZEPs face deportation when their permits expire on June 30, 2023.

Despite the Zimbabwean Embassy announcing that they will assist citizens who decide to return home, it has yet to receive any formal requests from ZEP holders expressing a desire to return home. David Hamadziripi, Zimbabwe’s ambassador to South Africa, said:

Zimbabweans are known to be a fearless, resolute and unrelenting people in spite of the many hurdles that our country has been subjected to.

Most of them want the facilitation to return, either at the end of May or in the course of June, so presently there is no facilitation because there has been no such request.

In November 2021, when the government of South Africa took the decision to no longer extend the ZEP, it was again a sovereign decision, that is one of those decisions another government cannot question

As the Zimbabwean community in South Africa marked the 43rd anniversary of Zimbabwe’s independence, nearly 180,000 citizens are anxiously waiting for the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria’s ruling on the legal challenge against the termination of the ZEP.

Although some Zimbabweans may be holding onto hope, the Zimbabwean government has accepted South Africa’s decision to terminate the ZEP. The judgment on the legal challenge against the termination of the ZEP has yet to be announced.

The ZEP is a temporary document that permits holders and their dependents to reside, work, and study legally in South Africa. When the permit expires on June 30, 2023, holders have the choice of applying for an alternative visa or returning to Zimbabwe.

President Chamisa Demands Reforms Before Polls

Tinashe Sambiri| CCC leader President Nelson Chamisa has ramped up pressure on the Zanu PF administration to implement reforms before polls.

According to President Chamisa, the Zanu PF leader Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa has the freeway to play political games, something that must be addressed before polls.

Below is President Chamisa’s strong statement on reforms:

“WE MUST CHANGE THE LAW…

Proclamation, Nomination and Polling dates have a bearing on planning by citizens, voters, business, investors and political parties’ internal processes.

In Zimbabwe, the current law gives the incumbent ED too much power and scope for abuse.”

Geogenix Officials Accused Of Parading Guns During A Meeting With Harare Councillors

A City of Harare Special Committee report on Waste to Energy Project has exposed how Local government minister July Moyo and Geogenix officials used fear against those opposing decisions made by the central government on the Pomona Waste to Energy project.

According to the special committee report, Geogenix officials attended their first meeting at Town House with guns visible in their holsters forcing councilors to walk out of the meeting in fear.

“Geogenix officials attended their first meeting at town house with guns visible in their holsters. Councillors responded by walking out of the meeting. Geogenix started their engagements by deliberately creating an environment of fear, where COH officials and governance structures are subjects. It is important to note that all City of Harare Councillors and employees interviewed during the course of the investigation expressed serious concern over their safety and were seriously and visibly frightened. It is concerning that the COH officials operated in an environment where fear influenced the direction of their decisions instead of quality professional common sense,” reads part of the report.

The report further states that City of Harare officials were afraid of negotiating better terms due to threats on their lives with one councillor telling the committee of receiving a threat to the effect that they would not stay in their house if they do mess up with the Geogenix deal.

“One person who was interviewed said that threats had been made against councillors to the effect that ‘mudzimba dzenyu hamuzogariki’,” further reads the report.

The committee also described the Geogenix project as a bad contract, accusing the company of presenting a financial model with an inflated project capital cost.

“The financial model presented by Geogenix, has an inflated project capital cost, under declares actual revenues, undeclared major revenues in biogas, recycling, of paper, glass and recreation park. And yet it’s still way profitable with an under-declared net profit of US$581 million. In contrast COH net project benefits are negative US435.3 million,” reads part of the report.

The report further accused Geogenix of failing to provide information on proof of funding before securing approval to start construction which was against project governance requirements.

“The project proceeds on the understanding that Geogenix will bring in all the capital to finance it. Yet no information has been provided by Geogenix on proof of funding and on cost of capital. It is a serious abnormality and against project governance requirements for the project to secure approval to start construction without proof of funds,” further reads the report.

Efforts to get a comment from Geogenix Country Representative Dilesh Nguwaya were unsuccessful as he did not pick calls while messages sent via WhatsApp were not responded to.

Chamisa Aides Acquitted

By- Three members of the CCC have been freed by Gweru Magistrate Miriam Banda on public violence charges.

The trio, John Kuka (38), the CCC Mkoba constituency coordinating committee chairperson, Raphael Chipunza (51) and Simbarashe Kupfurutsa (31), were falsely accused of storming losing the Zanu-PF Mkoba Constituency candidate on March 26, 2022, by-elections William Gondo’s house before allegedly harassing his wife.
Renowned human rights lawyer Advocate Bornwel Balamanja of Hlabano Law Chambers successfully represented the three CCC members.
According to the State papers, with the State represented by Helen Khosa, allegations were that on March 24, 2022, at around 4 pm, the complainant Violet Gondo was at her home in Mkoba 2 in Gweru when the accused persons who were aboard an unmarked Ford Ranger vehicle in the company of a group of unknown people parked at her house.
Further allegations were that the trio playing political songs campaigning for CCC Mkoba legislator Amos Chibaya disembarked from the car and threw CCC fliers into Gondo’s yard.
The trio was thought to be part of unknown people who pulled down Gondo’s market table at the gate.
Further allegations were that an unknown person produced a whip and assaulted one Gloria Madhula on the legs before speeding off.
Dismissing the charges, Banda said the witnesses were inconsistent and unreliable.
“Evidence, in this case, was inconsistent, and all the witnesses were unreliable,” she said.
It is widely observed that Zanu-PF members have developed an art of lying that CCC members beat them. The courts have detected such lies.

Judge Openly Tells President Mnangagwa’s Girlfriend, “I’m Resigning”

The swearing in of a tribunal to investigate the suitability of Bulawayo High Court judge, Justice Martin Makonese, to hold office following allegations of improper behaviour triggered his resignation which he quickly submitted to President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s girlfriend, Virginia Mabhiza.

President Mnangagwa’s girlfriend Mrs Virginia Mabhiza

The stepping down was within hours of the ceremony being held at State House in Harare yesterday.

Justice Makonese quit immediately after President Mnangagwa swore in the tribunal chaired by retired judge Justice Simbi Mubako.

The President’s girlfriend Mrs Virginia Mabhiza confirmed that Justice Makonese had submitted his resignation through his lawyers. There is still the formal notification process through the Judicial Service Commission before the tribunal can be stood down, with any further legal action concerning the judge having to be done through other processes.

Justice Makonese was accused of issuing an order in a coal mine dispute in which he allegedly had a financial interest, allegedly making the order without any outside application before him and without the knowledge of lawyers of the two other parties in the dispute.

He is the fifth judge to leave office in recent years either as a result of tribunal recommendation to the President or as a result of a tribunal being appointed by the President.

This rate of departure from the bench has raised queries about how judges are appointed. There are suggestions that the system introduced in the 2013 Constitution may need further revision.

Both Mrs Mabhiza and Justice Mubako, who has chaired most of the tribunals, said the rising frequency of recommendations for tribunals was of concern, with Mrs Mabhiza suggesting that the new system of creating a short list through applications followed by public interviews may not be as effective as it should be while Justice Mubako considered continuing with what was there but trying to make it work better.

Yesterday at State House, President Mnangagwa, in line with the Constitution after receiving a recommendation from the Judicial Service Commission, swore in a three-member tribunal led by Justice Mubako to investigate the suitability of Justice Martin Makonese to hold office.

The other two members of the tribunal are the Executive Dean of the Midlands State University’s Faculty of Law, Dr Gift Manyatera and well-known senior lawyer Philippa Philips.

President Mnangagwa said the Judicial Service Commission, in a letter on March 9, formally advised him of the request of removal from office of Justice Makonese. That triggered the process whereby the President then has to appoint a tribunal of lawyers chaired by a judge or retired judge to investigate.

Speaking after the tribunal swearing in ceremony, Mrs Mabhiza said the frequency of the tribunals was worrying and showed that something needed to be done to improve the conduct or selection of some judges.

She said the present system of creating the short list for the final selection by the President might be need to be improved and perfected.

In the earlier system, the Judicial Service Commission took soundings within the legal and judicial communities and vetted potential High Court judges confidentially and then approached the ones thought suitable to see if they agreed to having their names go forward. Now potential judges need to apply and go through a process that includes public interviews.

Promotions to the Supreme Court and Constitutional Court benches have now returned to the older system where judges no longer apply for promotion, following a recent constitutional amendment, but are once again confidentially assessed with the best going forward to the final short list.

“The new system of interviews unfortunately seems to be bringing on board some people who are not of good integrity. I am not saying they are not of good integrity but one can make that conclusion as you can see the frequency judges are coming for tribunals,” Mrs Mabhiza said.

She said the appointments had to be done in accordance with the Constitution.

“Precisely it is an issue which may be taken to the people since our Constitution is people driven and we may also want to hear views from the justice sector as to whether we should revert to the old process.

“In my view the old process was better as most of the judges who were picked by the President were tried and tested,” Mrs Mabhiza said.

Justice Mubako said the frequency of tribunals was alarming but there was a need to accept the situation while still trying to keep the institution as sound as possible.

“It’s Dumb for CCC to Boycott Elections with Mwonzora Lurking!” He’s Bait, Participate And Vhumbu!

By Wilbert Mukori | “It is stupid to think Zanu PF will reform itself out of power. It is also dumb stupid to suggest boycotting of elections when Mwonzora is lurking in the shadows to fill that void,” shot Osama23. Shooting from the hip!

It is indeed stupid to expect Zanu PF to reform itself out of office hence the reason the people of Zimbabwe have risked life and limb to elect MDC/CCC for the express purpose of implementing the reforms. If I have said this once, I have said it 100 times today alone!

If you think it is dumb stupid “to suggest boycotting of elections when Mwonzora is lurking in the shadows to fill that void”. It is even worse to participate in the flawed election to stop Mwonzora winning the few gravy train seats because the principal beneficiary here is Zanu PF who set the trap.

A rat on it’s own will avoid a trap. Introduce the competition and the rat throws all caution to the wind. It doesn’t matter how many other dead rats it has seen caught in the trap, all it is thinking about is “If I don’t get that nut quick, some other rat will!” VHAMBU! Pwete-e-e!
Mnangagwa is a buffoon, the recent Al Jazeera Gold Mafia documentary proved that point beyond all reasonable doubt, still he, just like Mugabe before him, understands that Zimbabwe’s opposition leaders are as greedy and reckless as competing rats.
Zimbabwe’s 2008 elections took place when the country was facing its worst ever economic meltdown; inflation was a nauseating 500 billion %, the economy had all but collapse, unemployment had soared to 90% plus, etc., etc. The people were restless for meaningful political change, as one might well imagine! Robert Mugabe and his Zanu PF cronies resorted to blatant cheating and wanton violence to retain their iron grip on political power.
However, the cheating and wanton violence were so outrageous that not even SADC and AU, who had always turned a blind eye to Zanu PF rigged elections in the past, could endorse the 2008 elections as a legitimate process. Mugabe was forced to sign the 2008 Global Political Agreement (GPA) agreeing to the need for Zimbabwe to implement the raft of democratic reforms designed to restore the individual freedoms and rights including the right to free elections.
Properly implemented the reforms would have stopped Zanu PF rigging future elections.
The task of implementing the reforms were left to Morgan Tsvangirai and his MDC friends for the obvious reason – Zanu PF would never reform itself out of power.
Alas! MDC leaders took their eyes off the ball, and they failed to implement even one token reform in five years of the GNU. Mugabe bribed the MDC leaders with the ministerial E-class Mercedes Benz, the generous salaries and allowances, the US$4 million mansion for Tsvangirai, etc., etc. In return the MDC leaders throw the reforms out of the window. Not even one token reform was implemented in five years!
So, Zanu PF emerged out of the 2008 to 2013 GNU with all the party’s dictatorial powers including the carte blanche powers to rig elections. The party was careful to ensure it gave up a few gravy train seats to entice the opposition to participate in the election no matter how flawed and illegal the process got. Zanu PF needs to maintain the multi-party democracy façade to avoid SADC dismissing the election as a farce as happened in 2008.
Mnangagwa has spiced up the opposition bait by creating POLAD a political body composed of the losing presidential candidates who publicly endorsed the 2018 elections as free, fair and credible and endorsed him as the legitimately elected president. They were rewarded with a new car each plus other freebies.
I once taught an adult education “O” level Mathematic class. It was hard work. And soon realised that for many of the students it was mission impossible because, forget doing form one and two, they had not completed grade seven. How can anyone comprehend the complexities of trigonometry when they have not mastered simple Arithmetic!
Similarly, if one has failed to understand the democratic reforms are and that MDC leaders sold out big time by failing to implement even one reform during the GNU, this is primary school stuff. It is naïve to expect them to comprehend the futility of participating in flawed elections to give Zanu PF legitimacy and perpetuating the dictatorship.
Nelson Chamisa and the few of his CCC friends who win the few gravy train seats on offer as bait benefit. Douglas Mwonzora and Lovemore Madhuku and the rest in the opposition camp benefit too from the POLAD freebies. The real big losers here are the ordinary Zimbabweans who are paying dearly for the consequences of 43 years and counting of Zanu PF corrupt and tyrannical rule. Explaining all this to Osama23 is a complete waste of time, it is teaching University stuff to a grade one!
Osama23 is blissfully content participating in these flawed elections to give Zanu PF legitimacy and thus perpetuating his/her own suffering just to stop Mwonzora winning any gravy train seats on offer as bait. He/she will not stop Mnangawa giving Mwonzora the POLAD freebies.
If Nelson Chamisa and his MDC Alliance had boycotted the 2018 elections, for example, it is rich to argue that SADC and AU would not have noticed. The opposition boycott would have been even more effective is they had done so in 2013 because it was none other than SADC leaders themselves who had proposed a boycott. But, again explaining all this to Osama23 is a waste of time, it is all water off a buck’s back.
Of course, the POLAD freebies are a small price for Mnangagwa to pay for the guaranteed participation in the flawed elections of Chamisa, his supporters and all the misguided Osama23s out there.
If I had to name one reason why Zanu PF has ridden roughshod over this nation then it must hubris. Hubris in the form of greed and breath-taking incompetence on the part of the MDC/CCC leaders. Naivety and ignorance on the part of the populous; the stubborn ignorance of people like Osama23 who think they know when in fact they don’t know.
It is most disconcerting that anyone would participate in flawed elections to give vote rigging Zanu PF legitimacy, boast of the worthless trophy they have won and yet remain blissfully ignorant of the priceless price they have paid. Even after 43 years of rigged elections they are the one failing to see the trap and are caught by the neck like a rat! –

Mbare Runs Dry

HARARE residents are living in fear after more than 100 cases of cholera were recorded in the country since the outbreak of the disease two months ago.

This comes at a time when most suburbs in the opposition-run Capital City have gone for years without clean running water.

The country has so far recorded 108 laboratory-confirmed cases and 536 suspected cases.

Some of the residents who spoke to this news crew in Harare‘s high-density suburb of Mbare expressed anger at the city fathers for failing to provide potable water, at a time when cholera cases are on the increase.

“We have not had running water for over two weeks and looking at our situation here in Mbare that’s unacceptable because we have a lot of children and now we fear that once we record a cholera case we will all die from the disease.

“The city council should act because we pay rates every month so they should also play their part. Our toilets are inside so this is a health hazard if there is no running water. We need water as soon as yesterday,” said the residents.

While Officials from the city council could not be reached for comment, the government has intervened by sinking boreholes.

It has, however, emerged that some unscrupulous individuals are locking the boreholes and charging a fee for each bucket of water.

“ The government drilled a borehole for us but now there are some people who are charging us to fetch water yet we heard that these boreholes are for us to access the water for free. We are calling on the government to intervene before we die of cholera,” said James Nehosho.

Cholera is an acute diarrhoeal infection caused by the ingestion of food or water contaminated with the bacterium Vibrio cholera.

Three people have succumbed to the disease since the recent outbreak, while 12 suspected deaths have been recorded with the bulk in Mashonaland Central.- ZBC News

President Chamisa Says Mnangagwa Involved In Gold Looting

Source: Masvingo Mirror

HARARE – The leader of Zimbabwe’s biggest opposition party, Nelson Chamisa has told his opponent President Emmerson Mnangagwa to face the nation and explain allegations of gold smuggling levelled against him and his inner circle. The allegations are contained in a recent investigation carried out and published in a documentary by an international television station AL Jazeera.

Speaking in a wide ranging interview with Blessed Mhlanga of HStv yesterday (Thursday), Chamisa said Mnangagwa has a constitutional obligation to explain to the nation because as the President he is entrusted and presides over all national resources and the Reserve Bank.

“He should give answers on why our borders are porous, on why our airports are porous and why the corrupt deals. The whole world knows where Zimbabwe’s problem is; it is with the leadership and the bad governance,” said Chamisa.

He dismissed public sentiments that he is quiet and aloof as the country is gripped by its biggest scandal in history.
“I am not Emmerson, I am Nelson. It is Mnangagwa who is presiding over this country and must give answers to the nation,” said Chamisa…

DeMbare Problems Continue

The look on Dynamos coach Hebert ‘Jompano’ Maruwa’s face after the final whistle told the entire story.

The Harare giants were totally outplayed by an impressive Bulawayo Chiefs, who deservedly collected maximum points, on an afternoon DeMbare needed to win following their Uhuru Cup loss to rivals Highlanders last week.

Chiefs took an early lead in the 15th minute through Mthokozisi Msebe, before Frank Makarati restored parity for DeMbare from the penalty spot in the 27th minute.

Amakhosi restored their lead two minutes after the half time interval through veteran midfielder Danny ‘Deco’ Phiri, before Tanaka Shandirwa made it 2-2 in the 77th minute.

Phiri had the final say, when he rose high to head home Msebe’s corner kick with eight minutes of regulation time left.

Maruwa, whose side has not won any of their last four matches in all competitions, was disappointed.- Soccer24 News

Govt Pays For Non Existent Goods

The Finance Ministry says it has unearthed fraudulent conduct in the public procurement system where the Government pays for the goods or services but suppliers do not deliver on their obligations, prejudicing the Government huge sums of money.
Last year, the Treasury introduced the value for money initiative to curtail financial prejudice to the State through excessive invoicing, negatively impacting on the efficient utilisation of public resources while harbouring corruption.

On account of the desire to implement an efficient Public Finance Management (PFM) system, the Government last year suspended payment of its suppliers after discovering that some contractors were charging for goods and services using grey market rates.

The suspension of payments to the Government service providers was part of efforts to curtail attacks on the local currency, which was fuelling inflation.

Speaking at an event to launch the Zimbabwe Financial Reporting Manual (ZRFM) and Public Sector Professional Accountancy of Zimbabwe (PSPAZ) Training Office in Harare by Finance and Economic Development Minister Professor Mthuli Ncube on Monday, the Secretary Mr George Guvamatanga said: “Through the value for money exercise, we also realised another very disturbing trend in the public procurement system which is really what is called in the streets ‘air supply’ where orders and invoices are generated and payments are made but nothing is delivered.

“So, we are currently further strengthening our procurement systems, but we have been looking very closely at this.

“We have got several cases currently under investigation of ‘air supply’ and the culprits will be dealt with across the whole of the system, whether it is from Government or suppliers, they will be dealt with the sternest measures that they deserve.”

ZFRM is an ongoing project that entails Zimbabwe’s migration from the rule-based approach to the accrual-based International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS) framework by December 2025.

The initiative forms part of the Government’s PFM reforms to enhance transparency and accountability.

The ZFRM is expected to guide the implementation of IPSAS by providing local interpretations and clarifying options thereby ensuring consistency of application of the various standards by reporting entities in central and local governments as well as parastatals.

ZFRM is a recommendation of the Implementation Strategy and Plan (IPSAS) launched in 2019.

Through the value for money exercise, Mr Guvamatanga said, there had been significant improvement in savings to the fiscus.

He noted that the Treasury had further engaged the Procurement Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (PRAZ) to ensure processes and systems in the public procurement domain were enhanced.

A strong PFM function, he stressed, was critical to the achievement of the National Development Strategy 1 (NDS 1) towards Vision 2030.

Under Vision 2030, the Second Republic aims to transform Zimbabwe into an upper-middle-income economy.

“This is actually a very strong warning to all of those who have been engaged in this air supply that your time has come to an end, and the systems that we are putting in place will make sure that you are all plugged out wherever you are hiding.

“I guess for those who are smart enough, maybe in the next seven days, I would like to advise you to find the goods that you were supposed to deliver — deliver them because we are coming after you,” he said.

Since the launch of the value for money principle, he said, there is now a fully developed system of standardised pricing in Government called commonly-purchased goods through which authorities have been able to set maximum prices across the public procurement domain.

In an interview after the event, Mr Guvamatanga pointed out that: “In the process of managing this value for money, we actually discovered further challenges within our procurement system.

“I called it by its street name (air supply) but actually its fraudulent procurement whereby invoices are sent, payments are made but no goods are delivered.

“We are currently investigating several issues of such instances where the Government paid but no goods were actually delivered.

“This exercise is ongoing, the centralised internal audit unit has been working very closely where we have identified those anomalies.”

So far, he said, indications were that fraud within the public procurement system was rampant not only in Government ministries, departments and agencies but in local Government (rural and urban councils).

“We are now putting in place very strong systems working in conjunction with PRAZ to ensure that we plug this delinquency which again is costing the Government a lot of money.”

Mr Guvamatanga said the fraud cases will soon be reported to the police for the law to take its course adding that on the other hand, Treasury has its own internal disciplinary measures in terms of financial sanctions where those accounting officers found wanting would be asked for restitution.

“If we actually realise that you are negligent, the PFM Act does have provisions for individuals to be personally sanctioned and we are actually looking where individuals are proven to have been negligent, then they will have to pay personally from their own pockets.

“That might even mean that you might have to sell your house or car depending on the extent of the fraud or the negligence that would have been committed,” he advised. -state media

CCC Activists Acquitted Ahead Of ED’s UK Trip

CCC Calls For Mnangagwa Resignation

24-04-2023

We as CCC youth change champions, we call upon for the resignation of Emmerson Mnangagwa because of his role in facilitating gold smuggling and money laundering as revealed in the Al Jazeera documentary, Gold Mafia.

The documentary uncovers gold smuggling and money laundering activities by cartels closely linked to the First Family and the President’s Office.

Mnangagwa’s niece Henrietta Rushwaya, a queen of the underworld gold dealings is cited as one of the protagonists in robbing the country billions of dollars in this scandal. She is not new to controversy having been court with 6kgs of gold at RGM International Airport but was never convicted.

Mnangagwa’s Ambassador at Large, whom the streets have christened “mbavhassador” is also at the centre of illicit financial flows and gold smuggling.

Mnangagwa himself is presented in the documentary as the archbishop of criminal activities around looting of the country’s mineral wealth.

We as CCC youths, we condemn Emmerson Mnangagwa’s criminal abuse of office and call for his immediate resignation as the Head of State and President of the Republic.

We also call upon the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) to arrest all criminals implicated in this documentary starting by Emmerson Mnangagwa himself.

To the suffering masses of Zimbabwe, our message is that we have a patriotic duty to stop criminals from looting our natural resources.

Cholera Outbreak Looms In Harare

He met with UK Ambassador to Zimbabwe Melanie Robinson on April 17 to discuss the matter and also matters of trade and investment.

Nevertheless, some British Members of Parliament believe that inviting the leader of Zimbabwe was a mistake.

Hopewell Chin’ono Publicly Celebrates Newsday Article Quoting His Own Chimanimani Falsehoods On CCC

By A Correspondent | Populistic film maker Hopewell Chin’ono on Tuesday celebrated a Newsday article that quotes his own falsehoods about the Nelson Chamisa led CCC party in Chimanimani.

Chinono who faced with serious allegations of money laundering since 1997, has failed to disclose the financier for his first £50,000 worth sportscar he says he purchased in 1996 at 25, re posted his own falsehoods that claim that Chimanimani has 22 wards when they are actually 25.

He placated the Newsday article that has no new detail other than his own personal suggestions accusing Chamisa’s party of incompetence.

He announced saying: “Today’s @NewsDayZimbabwe reports that; “CCC struggles for rural candidates.”

“When I reported this story last week, I was called a liar, someone even said I had a dirty agenda.

“It is fascist to stop journalists from reporting news because you don’t like the content of the news.”

Chimanimani residents last week told ZimEye, they are not amused by the man who makes people call him DaddyHope, and local citizen journo, VOA contributor and party supporter, Mr Pardon Maguta said, “I have seen one of the posts from DeadHope… that the CCC is struggling to get candidates to the 2 constituencies and 22 wards… Chimanimani according to the new delimitation doesn’t have 22 wards… actually there have been an addition of 2 more wards for Chimanimani, both East and west, making Chimanimani have 25 wards, because previously we had 23 wards, which makes DeadHope’s claims false and totally wrong; he doesn’t have the correct information about Chimanimani…

“To move further, CCC didn’t struggle to get candidates;actually we had a lot of candidates for both constituencies, and in actual fact, all the wards have been fielded there, we have candidates for the general elections, so we don’t know where DeadHope is getting this information, actually he is misleading the people; if he has hatred for the CCC, or the president of the CCC, he doesn’t have the create fiction to please some people.

“These are all lies that DeadHope uttered that CCC in Chimanimani is failing to find candidates or people to represent it- the people are there, CCC is waiting for the elections… in his journalism he needs to gather facts, not try to discourage people or give the wrong picture that suggests CCC has already lost the election to Zanu PF… We are waiting for the election, and we hope to do better,” said Maguta.

Meanwhile, Chin’ono who last year threatened the Al Jazeera documentary researcher, Simba Chikanza in favour of and protecting Emmerson Mnangagwa’s wife, Auxillia, saying a publishing deadline he (Chikanza) had announced was blackmail against the First Lady on 15 May 2022, was at the time of writing still to respond to criticism over his recent statements at the SAPES Trust in which he claims he is mediating between Auxillia Mnangagwa and Nelson Chamisa for a government of national unity, something the CCC leader publicly rubbishes.

Award winning human rights defender, Mako Haruzivishe, and 2 other activists allege Chin’ono in January 2019 leaked to the military secret locations of tortured activists leading to them being found and assaulted when the government killed 17 people and agents raped over 50 women.

Joe Biden Running For Re-Election In 2024 Elections

President Biden is running for reelection. He made it official in a video released Tuesday morning, exactly four years after he tossed his hat into the 2020 race.

In the three-minute video, Mr. Biden repeated some familiar themes, saying, “When I ran for President four years ago, I said we are in a battle for the soul of America – and we still are. The question we are facing is whether in the years ahead we have more freedom or less freedom, more rights or fewer. I know what I want the answer to be. This is not a time to be complacent. That’s why I’m running for reelection.”

Over images of the Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol and such Republicans as former President Trump, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, the president said, “MAGA extremists are lining up to take on … bedrock freedoms.”

Chitungwiza Man In Soup For Forging Wife’s Signature On Divorce Papers

By A Correspondent- A Chitungwiza man was last week arraigned before Harare magistrate, Dennis Mangosi for allegedly forging his wife’s signature on divorce papers.

Travolta Reginald Tonderai Chitongo (29) was ordered to pay $100 000 bail and return to court on June 12, pending investigations.

Complainant in the case is Chitongo’s wife, Benedict.

Allegations are that on July 6, 2020, the two solemnised their union under the Marriages Act [Chapter 5:11] at the Harare Magistrates Court.

However, on April 15 this year Chitongo told Benedict that his relatives were piling pressure on him to file for divorce.

On April 19, 2023, Benedict went to the Civil Registry Office at Makombe Building to verify their marriage, but was advised that it was still active.

She was also advised to check with the High Court where she discovered that the marriage had been terminated.

She also discovered that there was a consent paper which bore her forged signature.

She reported the case to the police, leading to Chitongo’s arrest.

Sekuru Banda Mediates Between Paradzai Mesi And Concession Grocery Shop Owner

BY A CORRESPONDENT| Concession shop owner Never Sabawu has withdrawn charges against sungura musician Paradzai Mesi following the intervention of popular traditional healer Sekuru Banda.

Paradzai Mesi became a subject of ridicule after a video of him visibly drunk and in handcuffs made rounds on social media last week. He was accused of unlawfully entering Sabawu’s shop and stealing groceries.

Sekuru Banda with Paradzai Mesi and wife in Concession

Mesi has already appeared before Concession Magistrates Court charged with unlawful entry.

Sekuru Banda has since visited Mesi in Concession and negotiated with the grocery shop owner to have the charges dropped.

He also paid for the groceries allegedly stolen by the Huruva hitmaker.

Sekuru Banda who has in the past assisted comedian Marabha, former boxer Mosquito and yesteryear footballer George Shaya, promised to build a house for Mesi.

“We thank Mudiwa for assisting Paradzai Mesi, we urge other people to assist especially in situations where there is a crying call for assistance, Paradzai Mesi entertained a lot of people with his music and to see him suffer should touch the hearts of all those who are able to assist,” Sekuru Banda said.

Sekuru Banda said Mesi’s living conditions prompted him to intervene and has since kickstarted the process of building a decent house for him.

“Paradzai Mesi’s living conditions are not good, so I have decided to build a house for him. The process is already underway, we will ensure that he has a decent house to live,” said Sekuru Banda.

Entrepreneur and gospel musician Mudiwahood became the first person to come to the aide of Mesi when he bought groceries and clothes for him on top of assisting towards school fees for his children.

Mesi rose to stardom in the early 2000 when released albums such as albums like “Pane Chariuraya”, “Goneso”, “Masimba Towedzera”, “Zvavemuropa”, “Kambairai” and “Nguva”.

In 2007, Mesi’s group Njerama Boys split following a dispute over money they got from a live performance. Band members left and Mesi struggled to keep the name and traded his guitar for cotton farming in Muzarabani which did not change his fortunes.

The gifted lead guitarist sold his car, kombi and PA system to make ends meet before deciding to relocate to Glendale in the hope of reviving his band which again did not workout.

Moreblessing Ali’s Killer Further Remanded

By A Correspondent- Pius Mukandi, alias Jamba, the Chitungwiza man who allegedly killed Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) member Moreblessing Ali in cold blood last year, has been further remanded in custody pending High Court indictment.

Magistrate Evelyn Mashavakure remanded Mukandi to May 9 this year saying the prosecution is finalising documents to indict him to the High Court for trial.

Mukandi has been in remand prison for close to a year now after being arrested while trying to flee from justice.

His arrest came before the police swooped on the deceased family lawyer and interim CCC vice-chairperson Job Sikhala, who has been in remand for more than eight months, for allegedly obstructing investigations.

The State alleges that Sikhala diverted their attention on Mukandi when he alleged the deceased was killed by Zanu-PF supporters.

Mukandi was tracked down to Hurungwe, where he was arrested while selling his grinding mill to get money to flee the offence.

Allegations are that on May 24 last year, at around 10:30pm at Chibhanguza Night Club, Nyatsime in Beatrice, Ali was in the company of her dog and a friend named Kirina Mayironi.

Unprovoked, Mukandi told the deceased that her dog was disturbing his peace.

Ali reportedly later went out of the nightclub and Mayironi followed and saw her lying on the ground with the suspect dragging her.

Mukandi attacked Mayironi with a catapult and she rushed back to the nightclub.

Other patrons failed to save Ali as Mukandi pelted them with stones.

Prosecutors alleged that Mukandi took the now-deceased from the vicinity of the nightclub to a secluded place and struck her with an unknown object, before strangling her to death and cutting her body into pieces.

Mukandi took the dismembered body parts to Plot 321 Dunnotar Farm in Beatrice, which belongs to his mother, Laina Mukandi, where he dumped them in a disused well before disappearing from the area.

On June 11 last year, Laina discovered the remains of the now-deceased after noting a strong stench emanating from the well.

She advised the police, leading to the discovery of Ali’s dismembered body.

On June 14 last year, a post-mortem was conducted on the remains at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals and the pathologist concluded that Ali was already dead when her body was chopped into pieces.

Prison Guard Loses Personal Household Property Over Unlawful Assault Of Harare Resident

By A Correspondent| Some household property belonging to two Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS) officers will go under the hammer at an auction in Harare on 21 April 2023 to recover a US$5 702 debt owed to a Harare resident, who sued them and claimed compensation for unlawful assault.

In a sale-in-execution notice seen by Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR), L.M Auctioneers will conduct the sale of the property at L.M Auctioneers premises located in Prospect industrial area in Waterfalls suburb in Harare on 21 April 2023.

The property to be auctioned to recover a debt belonging to Harare resident Alex Tendai Gombedza, includes a deep freezer, a Samsung television set and a set of sofas.

The ZPCS officers namely Michael Nduna and Florence Chihambakwe accrued the US$5 702 debt after they were sued in their personal capacity for damages amounting to US$5 702 by Gombedza, whom they severely assaulted and tortured together with his friend Evidence Kutsawa after they accused them of passing through a prohibited area
while they were walking through Chikurubi Prison garden in Harare in January 2022.

After the assault and torture, an aggrieved Gombedza engaged Tinashe Chinopfukutwa and Paidamoyo Saurombe of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights, who in August 2022 sued Nduna and Chihambakwe for damages amounting to US$5 720 arising from the physical attack and ill-treatment for pain and suffering, humiliation, affront to dignity
and embarrassment. Gombedza also cited Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi and ZPCS Commissioner-General Moses Chihobvu among the respondents.

During trial at Harare Civil Magistrates Court, Chinopfukutwa and Saurombe said Nduna and Chihambakwe instructed Gombedza and Kutsawa to lie down on the ground before assaulting them on their feet using wooden pick handles. After the assault, the ZPCS officers instructed some prisoners whom they were supervising to also assault the duo.

As a result, Gombedza and Kutsawa sustained severe injuries and had to seek medical attention.

In the case of Gombedza, he sustained injuries on his legs and feet and he was admitted at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospital for treatment.

The Harare resident suffered excruciating pain on his feet, which he still feels to date.

According to a medical reports, Gombedza suffered three percent residual disability as a result of the injuries, which he sustained from the assault.

Chinopfukutwa and Saurombe argued that their client felt greatly humiliated, embarrassed, dehumanised and degraded with the assaults and ill- treatment that he received at the hands of the ZPCS officers.

The human rights lawyers stated that Nduna and Chihambakwe treated Gombedza as if he was a dangerous criminal yet he was unarmed and posed no security threat whatsoever.

Furthermore, Chinopfukutwa and Saurombe argued that there was no justification for the excessive use of force against Gombedza as he had not committed any crime but was just going about his business walking on his way to Harare’s central business centre.

In the end, Nduna and Chihambakwe were ordered to pay compensation amounting to US$5 720 to Gombedza for damages for humiliation, embarrassment, affront to dignity and contumelia, pain and suffering and special damages for medical expenses which he incurred while being treated.

Marry Trial Deferred

By A Correspondent- Harare regional magistrate Mrs Feresi Chakanyuka has deferred to May 3 the trial for Marry Mubaiwa following indications that her lawyer Ms Beatrice Mtetwa is not feeling well.

Mubaiwa is alleged to have attempted to kill Vice President Constantino Chiwenga by removing a medical intravenous set and a catheter when he was hospitalised in South Africa.

It is the State’s allegations that Mubaiwa entered into the hospital where VP Chiwenga was admitted.

The court heard that she then unlawfully removed the Vice President’s medical intravenous giving set as well as the central venous catheter from him, resulting in him bleeding profusely. It is further alleged that she forced him off the bed, held his hand, and moved him out of the ward.

The State alleges that Mubaiwa was intercepted by the security personnel she had initially locked out of the room prior to incident.

Security personnel are said to have called the hospital staff to reconnect the medical equipment she had allegedly unlawfully removed.

The Vice President was successfully resuscitated with Mubaiwa said to have disappeared from the hospital.

Man Surrenders Cheating Wife To Boyfriend

By A Correspondent- Harare man revealed that he went to surrender his wife to her b0yfriǝnd after establishing that the two were deeply in l0ve.

Emmanuel Mutsamutema told a court in the capital last month that he was forced to take the bizarre move because the two were madly in l0ve.

He blamed his former workmate, Ramu Chidziva, for destroying his relati0nship with his wife.

Chidziva dragged Mutsamutema to court seeking a protection order, accusing him of physical and verbal abuse.

Mutsamutema said Chidziva was to blame for the ordeal.

We used to share the same shop, but he moved out.

“Three weeks ago, he called and asked me to come over to his house.

When I arrived, he locked me inside and started insulting and assaulting me, threatening to kill me.

“He was accusing me of having an ɑffɑir with his wife,” said Chidziva.

My wife died and he threatened me saying I too would die and follow her.”

However, Mutsamutema opposed the application.

“I was a shareholder of the store and I passed control to him.

“I confronted him and he admitted to having an ɑffɑir with my wife, and she also confirmed it.

“Everything he is saying is a lie, and I knew he was going to lie, so I recorded all our conversations and I have the audio clips with me.

“I have never insulted him or assaulted him.

“After I left the shop, I only met him twice – on the day I called him over and the day I went to hand over my wife to him at his house since it seemed they were having a serious ɑffɑir.

“He was slǝǝping with my wife before his wife died and even slǝpt with her three days after his wife died.

“Now there are rumours that he killed his wife to be with my wife,” he added.

After some recordings were played in court, Chidziva still denied having had an ɑffɑir with Mutsamutema’s wife and claimed he only admitted because he had been assaulted.

First Lady At It Again

Zimbabwe Union of Journalists (ZUJ) yesterday said it would soon re-engage government over First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa’s continued harassment of journalists from the private media.

This came after Auxillia chased away private media journalists who wanted to cover her tour of the Museum of African Liberation in Harare yesterday.

The tour had been organised by The Institute of African Knowledge (INSTAK) .

INSTAK had invited journalists from all media houses for the event.

Her security aides, however, said only journalists from the State media were allowed to cover the event.

“Amai has her own team that covers her, so please leave,” the aides told reporters from the private media who included a team from NewsDay.

ZUJ secretary-general Perfect Hlongwane said they would re-engage the Information ministry over the issue.

“We have engaged with the ministry and they have explained. We have somehow come to an agreement on the issue. We thought that was not going to happen, but now that it has persisted, it warrants another engagement,” Hlongwane said.

“Our position as the union is to say that if we are going to uphold the Constitution that gives the right to journalists and the media, we must be seen to be exemplary, especially from such high-profile individuals.”

Added Hlongwane: “It’s only going to exacerbate polarisation in the media if we continue to bar journalists from coverage. No journalist should be barred and denied access to information as it is against the Constitution.”

In a statement, the Media Institute of Southern Africa (Misa) Zimbabwe said journalists should be allowed to cover public events without any hindrance, regardless of the media house they work for because this enhances citizens’ right to access information.

“This position is further buttressed by section 62(2) of the Constitution which states that every person, including the Zimbabwean media, has the right of access to any information held by any person, including the State, in so far as the information is required for the exercise or protection of a right,” Misa Zimbabwe said.

Jilted Man Brutally Murders Wife

By A Correspondent- A Jilted man from Morningside suburb in Bulawayo went berserk and brutally killed his wife by stabling her 19 times using a kitchen knife before crushing her head with a stone while their 13-year-old daughter watched helplessly.

The gruesome murder occurred last Saturday at their rented home and police have since launched a manhunt for the suspect.

Bulawayo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the murder, saying they are appealing to anyone with information on the suspect’s whereabouts to contact any nearest police station.

“We are investigating a case of murder where Pascal Dube (43) of Number 31 Greystoke Road in Morningside suburb allegedly killed his wife Acqualline Sadziwa (35) on Saturday while they were home with his step-daughter,” he said.

“From our investigations, we established that the deceased had made her plans without involving the suspect and there was tension. When the suspect quizzed her, the deceased told him that she was no longer interested in the marriage and had decided to leave their matrimonial home.”

Insp Ncube said the suspect ordered the deceased to leave everything behind including her cellphone, which he allegedly bought her.

“The deceased removed the simcard from the phone and gave it to the suspect who got infuriated. He pushed her out of the house before he stormed into the kitchen and took a knife, which he used to stab the woman 19 times and she died,” he said.

The suspect then took a boulder and crushed her skull. The step-daughter screamed for help and alerted neighbours who reported the matter to the police.

The suspect is still at large.

When the Chronicle crew visited the house where the murder took place, there was a tenant who declined to be named.

“I just heard people quarrelling and minutes later, the deceased’s daughter came running and she was screaming. She told me that her stepfather had stabbed her mother and since I am heavily pregnant, I was scared to also go out and intervene,” she said.

“I took my son and the deceased’s daughter and locked them inside my room before I phoned the police. Minutes later the quarrelling stopped and I contacted the suspect’s uncle. When he came, he found the woman already dead and the suspect was nowhere to be seen.”

Last month, a man from Cowdray Park was found dead outside his place of residence with multiple stab wounds on his thighs in a suspected murder case.

The deceased, Fredrick Moyo (27), and his friend left their place of residence and went to Mahweba Sports Bar in Cowdray Park to drink beer. Later on, the deceased went home first leaving his friend behind.

On the same day at around 3.45AM, his friend left the bar and went home where upon arrival he saw the deceased lying on the ground inside the yard facing down.

A police report was then made and no arrests have been made. Two stab wounds were noted on the left thigh and also another one on the right thigh.

Former Minister Acquitted

Kudakwashe Bhasikiti, a former Minister of State in Masvingo, was on Monday cleared of rape charges he has been facing since 2019. He was being accused of raping a 12-year- old at his Moira orphanage in Mwenezi, Masvingo.

The acquittal was granted by Chiredzi Regional Magistrate Ms Judith Zuyu, The Herald reported.

Ms Zuyu cleared Bhasikiti of the rape charge due to conflicting and inconsistent statements made by key state witnesses during the trial. Bhasikiti also denied the charges, claiming that he was being framed as retaliation for ordering some occupants to leave part of his Moira farm.

Allegations:

Kudakwashe Bhasikiti was arrested in December 2022 facing rape charges.

Bhasikiti appeared before the Mwenezi magistrate Faina Makumbe. On 15 December, he was remanded in custody until 29 December and was advised to seek bail at the High Court. He was not asked to plead during the court appearance.

Bhasikiti was transferred to Chiredzi Remand Prison as his case would be heard at the Chiredzi Regional Court.

It is alleged that in 2019, Bhasikiti went into a room at an orphanage he ran on his farm in Mwenezi. He allegedly silenced the complainant by covering her mouth with his hand, removed her clothes by force, and raped her once. He threatened her with unspecified consequences if she revealed the incident to anyone.

Bhasikiti was arrested by police at Mwenezi police station sometime last year after they received a tip-off about an alleged rape.

Bhasikiti was a Minister of State from 2013 until he was expelled from the Government and ZANU PF in December 2014 on allegations of fanning factionalism.

Bhasikiti attempted to rejoin ZANU PF after his expulsion but was rejected. He eventually threw his weight behind the MDC Alliance then led by Nelson Chamisa during the 2018 general elections.

In 2019, Bhasikiti announced that he was quitting politics to focus on farming.

Tinashe Chikuse’s Heartfelt Goodbye Letter

Tinashe Chikuse has written a heartfelt letter to his fans as he bids farewell to Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) after 2 decades of service. He said he resigned from his duties at the ZBC, effective the 3rd of April, 2023.

He said writing the letter gave him emotional and painful feelings, which made him cry. Tinashe stated that his letter took time to write, indicating that he was hesitant or struggling to express his emotions. Pindula News reproduces his letter below:

Writing this has made me to cry felt emotional and in pain …I will always love you all! My letter took time to be at but I say I don’t want to go ahead of God but to follow his plans…

I shall call this letter: THE END

Dear Tinashe Chikuse Fans!

I been meaning to write to you for a long time but getting myself to do so has been one of the most trying and lengthiest decisions of my life. It’s not that couldn’t but I find myself in an awkward position, I would have preferred to talk rather than write but I find myself distanced from the microphone and worlds apart from my legions of radio fans, I guess for now all I can do is write.

Well, for those that might have been wondering, its indeed true, it’s not a sabbatical but sadly it’s the end. Primarily, this letter serves to notify my fans that I resigned from my duties at the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC), effective the 3rd of April, 2023. It marks an end to a devoted and ardent 20 years of service. I must confess its shattering but I guess when one door shuts another opens or should I say, when one microphones switches off…another might just switch on. I never imagined the end because something in me so believed that our journey would last till eternity but I guess the myth is true after all, ‘people indeed meet to part ‘and in the same measure it’s my impassioned supplication that just as the myth goes, as we now part, hopefully we meet again. I find myself lost in thoughts, recollecting on past experiences. I must put it on record that I am forever grateful for the chance that I was accorded by the national broadcaster, ZBC. They took a chance with a young me and that was to be the beginning of a journey that we celebrate today as the brand Tinashe Chikuse..

In Journalism, I found a worthy religion and in radio, I found my first love and I have been blessed to do what I love day in day out. My journey in the craft started at the Sunday Mail as a reporter then I joined the ZBC as a production assistant in the current affairs department in 2003. In the discharge of my duties, I was privileged to work on the stations flagship shows like the Media Watch, Talking Farming, Toringepi and Face the Nation to mention but a few. Along the way, I have met many men and women that have had a huge impact on my life. I cannot name them all but I salute you all for being part of my story. My journey in radio ‘literally started in the morning’ at SFM (now Classic 263) as the host on the breakfast show in 2005, an experience that I will forever cherish. I vividly remember researching on the riddles that quickly became a fans favourite before I was moved to Power FM. It is at SFM that I bagged my first accolade after winning the NJAMA Best RadioDJ of the year in 2006.

It’s a fact, radio changed my life. It took me from being a dreamer to being a brand. My journey has been filled with a million thrills, I managed to experience the warmth and hospitality of Cairo, Egypt in 2016, all thanks to radio. I will never forget the many trips, calls, interviews and activations at both SFM and Power FM. Today I stand proud that one day, even after the feared justice of death, my name will be written amongst the notable broadcasters of this land. I have had many highlights on radio, too many to mention but I hold one so dearly, I will never forget calling the President of Zimbabwe, His Excellence President Emmerson Mnangagwa live on air the first in the history of radio just to wish him happy birthday in 2021, I still wonder how we pulled it off. I will also never forget how viral the Champions League Breakfast show hosted by me and my brother Pathisani Sibanda went in short space of time but little did I knew; it was the beginning of the END. The more I reflect on these memories, the more my heart sinks, I shiver and wonder what life will be without radio and all my fans, indeed a huge part of me is gone. Life might never be the same again!

To the ZBC staff and management over the years, I struggle to find words that can express how appreciative I am, your gamble turned a fresh from college journalism enthusiast into a seasoned scribe and broadcaster. Without ZBC, there was never going to be Tinashe Chikuse, all I can say is I SALUTE YOU.

To the many friends I have made along my journey, friends from the media fraternity, Chitungwiza, Raylton Sports Club, Hustlers 11 Football club, my classmates at the Zimbabwe Open University and many more, the list is endless… I THANK YOU!

Mnangagwa Hoodwinks Epworth Residents

PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa says as the country heads for general elections at a date soon to be announced, peace and unity should prevail at all times.

He was speaking as he launched the Presidential Title Deeds and Settlement Regularisation programme in Epworth this Saturday.

This Saturday saw the dawn of a new era for ordinary homeowners in Epworth, who had no claim of ownership to the land they had built their properties on, following the launch of the Presidential Title Deeds and Settlement Regularisation Programme.

Thousands gathered at Epworth High School to witness the launch and President Mnangagwa used the platform to appeal to the electorate to preserve Zimbabwe’s legacy of independence through their votes.

“We have brought these title deeds because we have love for the people. We are now moving towards the general elections. I know the dates but I will announce when the time is right. When we go to the elections, we will be asking if you want to preserve our legacy. If the answer is yes, our legacy is known by those who vote for ZANU PF. No one sweats through voting,“ he said.

Violence should never be an option before, during and after elections, and President Mnangagwa called on churches and political parties to preach unity and peace in this election season.

“To leaders of all political parties, churches and all sections of society, let’s preach the gospel of peace, harmony, nonviolence. I also call upon the community to reject drugs. We can’t leave our legacy to drug addicts, let’s instill discipline among our children,” added the President.

The people of Epworth have made history by being the first to be handed over their title deeds by President Mnangagwa and the Head of State also called upon them to keep their environment clean.

265 families were handed over their title deeds at the launch, with more expected to receive their legal documents.- ZBC News

Mthuli Plunges RBZ Into BlackList Risk

By Business Reporter | Zimbabwe risks being blacklisted on international banking after Finance And Economic Minister Mthuli Ncube threatened to wipe out the Al Jazeera news network’s evidence on the Zimbabwe state assisted #GOLDMAFIA gangs, featured in the latest documentary on financial crimes happening in Southern Africa.

Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube- file

Speaking to the financial news Bloomberg media house, Mthuli Ncube said the Zimbabwe government’s response is to deal with the allegations. He stated nothing about arresting or stopping the alleged crimes.

In the documentary, rival smuggling gangs were infiltrated by the news network’s undercover journalists and various gold and money leaks tracked down to source between several countries, Zimbabwe, UK, South Africa and the UAE.

Mthuli Ncube said, “we will deal with any money laundering allegations out there…” and further went on to charge saying the news network has no evidence at all, it’s just a documentary, despite paper trails independently verified by among others, the respected Ernst And Young auditing firm, and notable investigators from South Africa’s Zondo Commission.

“…I don’t think there is any evidence; there is a documentary out there but that’s not evidence,” he threatened.

This is the third time a senior official has threatened attack the audited evidence; last month, the nation’s central bank governor John Mangudya threatened the news network, though he later reversed his statement saying he would only go after individuals who were filmed boasting about their access to allegedly clean dirty money through him.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa’ Spokesman George Charamba was more direct, saying journalists who cite the documentary will be arrested.

Since the documentary was revealed in February, state elements have been claiming the government was never consulted on the revelations which however, one of Al Jazeera’s researchers Simba Chikanza publicly and openly disclosed to both Mthuli Ncube, Reserve Bank Of Zimbabwe Governor, and the Central Intelligence Organisation far back as November 2018, on live video (watch below.)

There has been a lot of concern around corruption in the country especially with the recent documentary by Al Jazeera. What are you communicating that the govt is actually trying to do to rid the corruption that is happening ?

Mthuli Ncube responded saying: “Zimbabwe is intolerant to corruption; … corruption happens everywhere in the world, but it’s issues about the stance you take as a govt to deal with that corruption; we have an anti corruption commission; we have got a very active police, law enforcement, you know, departments and agencies, they are dealing with these things; we have a zero tolerance on corruption; but corruption does happen anywhere in the world; and in terms of some of the scandals and the issues that you are mentioning, Zimbabwe was on the grey list in terms of the FATF, we are off that list because we have been very tough in terms of anti money laundering stance. We have issued public statements condemning corruption and saying that we will deal with any money laundering allegations out there, we have been very clear about that, like most governments tend to be.

But there has been evidence that the government has been involved in some of this?, the Bloomberg presenter asked, to which Mthuli Ncube replied saying,

“I don’t know about that, we will investigate every avenue to see if any government official is involved, or something like that; I don’t think there is any evidence; there is a documentary out there but that’s not evidence,” he threatened.

5000 Nabbed Over Drugs

MORE than 5 000 people have been arrested so far since the government launched an operation to reduce the scourge dubbed operation “No to dangerous drugs and illicit substances.”

With the drug and substance abuse scourge reaching alarming levels, wreaking havoc in families and threatening the core of societal norms and values, government in February this year launched an operation to fight the societal ill.

So far the crackdown has netted more than 5 000 people in connection with dealing in dangerous and illicit substances as alluded to by the latest figures released by the Zimbabwe Republic Police.

Amid revelations that more than 20 cases connected to possession or dealing with illicit drugs and substances are dealt with at the country’s courts on weekly basis, the legal fraternity is also concerned with the surge in such cases calling for holistic approach to protect the country’s future.

“It has become a worrisome trend, the rate at which our youths are coming at the courts on allegations of dealing with dangerous drugs. A starting point is to come up with strong rehabilitation institutions that teach them so that they can be reintegrated into the society when they finish there prison term,” said a legal practioner.

“I think as a nation there is a need for a holistic approach to deal with the menace. Also from a legal perspective i think there is a need to come up with a framework that protects whistle blowers because the real drug peddlers are getting away with it. Also i think there is a need to come up with strong rehabilitation centres that will allow offenders to learn something that will help them after the jail term,” noted another.

Government is rolling out several initiatives to curb the drug and substance abuse and this has seen the Second Republic availing ZWL500 million under the drug and substance abuse mitigation fund, setting up a national committee on the elimination of drug and substance abuse among other initiatives.- ZBC News

Mnangagwa Must Resign!

The streets await!

Man Loses Mind And Kills Wife

A jilted man from Morningside suburb in Bulawayo went berserk and brutally killed his wife by stabling her 19 times using a kitchen knife before crushing her head with a stone while their 13-year-old daughter watched helplessly.

When the state media crew visited the house where the murder took place, there was a tenant who declined to be named.

-state media

Druggie Caught With 3kg Heroin

The Swedish drug mule caught in possession of 3kg of heroin worth $3,4 million at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport was yesterday remanded in custody pending trial after he exercised his right for the court to provide him with a Swedish interpreter.
Harns Arne Ingemar Peterson (71), who is being charged with unlawful dealing in dangerous drugs was denied bail on his initial court appearance two weeks ago.

He appeared before regional magistrate Mr Stanford Mambanje yesterday, who postponed his trial to May 15.

This was after Peterson told the court that he neither spoke nor understood English, hence needed an interpreter.

The State alleged that on April 8, detectives from CID Drugs and Narcotics Harare, received information from a reliable source that Peterson was in possession of drugs which he intended to smuggle to Thailand.

The detectives waylaid Peterson at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport in order to intercept him as he checked in.

While at the airport, they went to all airlines’ offices to check which one had been used by Peterson. They then found out that he had been rejected by Qatar Airways for an onward flight since he was not in possession of a visa to Thailand.

The court heard that the detectives also looked for Peterson in the departures hall and identified him through the clothes he was wearing and his passport.

He was with a trolley loaded with two bags; a pink and a black one.

Detectives approached him and requested to search his bags and they seized some brownish powder suspected to be dangerous drugs in a plastic bag stashed in a false compartment created on the pink bag.

Peterson was then taken to CID Drugs Harare offices where preliminary field tests were done on the seized brownish powder and it tested positive for heroin.

Man Sneaks Into House, Steals 13 Gas Tanks

A Chitungwiza man has appeared in court for allegedly breaking into a house and stealing 13 gas tanks worth $1,2 million.
Greatmore Maurede (29) appeared before Mr Dennis Mangosi charged with unlawful entry and theft and was remanded on $100 000 bail to June 12.

Prosecuting, Mr Zororai Nkomo alleged that on February 7, Emmanuel Mukonoweshuro left his home to visit his mother Netty Kanengoni, who was not feeling well and took her to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals.

He left Anesu Matunhike, who is employed to sell gas, in charge at home.

During his absence, Maurede and his accomplice Benjamin Mukonza, who is already remanded for the same theft, used an unknown object to cut the chain and lock which were securing the wooden cabin door and gained entry.

They stole 2x60kg gas tanks and 11x48kg gas tanks and went away unnoticed.

On the February 8, Mukonoweshuro was informed by his uncle Desire that an unknown person had broken into his house and stolen the tanks.

The court heard that on February 21, he went to Magaba market in Mbare, Harare, looking for his stolen property and managed to identify 2x48kg gas tanks at the table belonging to Mukonza.

Mukonoweshuro informed the police who recovered the gas tanks.

Upon arrest, Mukonza told the police that he had bought them from Maurede and a trap was set for him to visit his colleague at the market place.

Upon arrival at the market stall in Magaba area, Maurede was arrested, but he managed to escape after having been involved in a fist fight with Mukonza and the police officer.

He was eventually caught last weekend.

The total value stolen is $1 244 880 and property worth only $148 200 was recovered.- Herald

DeMbare In Turmoil

Caps United, Chicken Inn Share Spoils

Dynamos suffered their first defeat of the 2023 Castle Lager Premiership season after losing 2-3 to Bulawayo Chiefs on Sunday.

The Glamour Boys, who were among the leading pack in the previous round, dropped to number 7 on the table following the loss.

The Herbert Maruwa’s charges showed a subdued display throughout the game, falling behind in 17th minute through Mthokozisi Msebe’s effort.

Frank Makarati restored parity ten minutes later after converting a controversial penalty.

Chiefs disputed the awarding of the penalty as they felt Malvin Mkolo handled the ball outside the box. They left the pitch in protest before returning five minutes later.

The action went to the break with both teams level, but it was the visitors who set another early pace in the second period when Felix Moyo restored Amakhosi’s lead just two minutes into the half.

Dynamos completely became disjointed with Tendai Matindife single handedly carrying the team in the following moments.

The midfielder even earned a goal, scoring the equaliser in the 80th minute but his effort was in vain as Chiefs restored their lead seven minutes later through Danny Phiri.

The game ended in favour of the away team, who moved out of the relegation zone.

In Bulawayo, CAPS United played a goalless draw against Chicken Inn.

The result kept them on the top of the table with twelve points, while picked their fourth successive draw to take position number 10.

Elsewhere, Sheasham and Simba Bhora shared the spoils following a 1-1 draw.- Soccer24 News

Mnangagwa CIOs Butcher Epworth Man

By- An Epworth man was at the weekend bashed by state security agents and beaten up after he tried to confront President Emmerson Mnangagwa, who delivered a speech in Epworth in the capital.

Mnangagwa was in Epworth, handing over 265 securitised title deeds to settlement residents.
As he was delivering a speech, a young man breached security. He raced to the stage to confront Mnangagwa, who is blamed by the opposition for the country’s socio-economic crisis but was stopped a few metres away.
He was taken behind a VVIP tent, where he was beaten up.
At the event, Mnangagwa pleaded with Epworth residents to vote for Zanu PF after they were given the title deeds.
“We are a government that delivers. Today I have returned to Epworth to deliver on that promise,” Mnangagwa who was launching the Presidential Title Deeds and Settlement Regularisation Programme said.
In the run up to the March by-elections last year, Zanu PF promised to dish out 80 000 title deeds to residents there to guarantee property ownership.
However, government later somersaulted and gave various excuses after failing to deliver the title deeds in one of the many false promises.
“This event demonstrated that we have the political will and technical skills to deliver while sufficient resources are available to support this exercise,” Mnangagwa said.
“So when we go to elections you should vote wisely in a way that keeps the legacy of black people which is known by those, who fought for it not those who came along the way.”
Thousands of Zanu PF supporters were bussed to the venue.

Chiwenga Threatens To Eliminate Chamisa

By- President Constantino Chiwenga said Zanu PF would end opposition dominance in urban councils in the forthcoming elections.

Chiwenga said this at the weekend’s presidential Title Deeds and Settlement Regularisation Programme launch in Epworth.

“We are burying opposition-led councils here and building the Zimbabwe we want. You have seen it for yourselves. When you elect people without the brains to take the nation forward, we will be killing ourselves. We have learnt for 23 years, and nothing fruitful has come. Let’s come back home to Zanu PF,” Chiwenga said.
“For years local authorities have been grappling with illegal settlements as residents fell victim to land barons. They continued to face several challenges including inadequate access to clean water, sanitation and poor road infrastructure mainly due to maladministration by the opposition-led councils.”
Title deeds were issued to 265 families, and 11 200 houses were said to be ready to receive the document against a target of 38 000.
Justice minister Ziyambi Ziyambi said there was no reason to reject Zanu PF since people were receiving title deeds for free, courtesy of the ruling party.
“What else would you like if you reject Mnangagwa?” Ziyambi asked rhetorically.
Zanu PF national chairperson Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri added that the ruling party had people’s welfare at heart.
“You can now brag because Zanu PF has knocked on your doorsteps. Your President loves everyone irrespective of political party affiliation. Today he has challenged you. When you eat, be it mealie meal, meat or kapenta fish it’s because of the Zanu PF government’s policies. When you are boarding a Zupco bus or train, know that they are from Zanu (PF),” she said.
Opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) secretary for local government and Harare Mayor Jacob Mafume, however, hit back saying the Zanu PF government’s failure to manage the economy was the root cause of all councils’ problems.
“If the national economy is performing badly no one can succeed. Individuals, private businesses and councils can’t succeed,” Mafume said. “What should come first is a well-managed national economy so that you have currency, jobs, people can afford rates and you can distribute and administer cities properly.” Newsday

Mnangagwa Chief Forces Villagers To Vote For Zanu PF

By-Chief Malisa of Silobela has ordered villagers to vote for President Emmerson Mnangagwa in the upcoming general elections, saying he fought for the country’s liberation from colonial rule.

Speaking during Independence Day celebrations held at Mutimutema Secondary School in Silobela, Chief Malisa Mnangagwa said Mnangagwa initiated several developmental projects in his area, such as the construction of dams.

The President wants us to give him a fresh mandate and we are going to give him that because he fought for the country and gave us land so that we will live peacefully and continue to develop.

About World Immunization Week

World Immunization Week 2023

World Immunization Week 2023 – 24 to 30 April

World Immunization Week, celebrated in the last week of April, aims to highlight the collective action needed to protect people from vaccine-preventable diseases.
