Mbappe, Giroud Shine As France Bury Australia

Holders France came from behind to finally see off a determined Australia in their Group D opener at the Al Janoub Stadium, Olivier Giroud scoring twice to match Thierry Henry’s national record of 51 goals.

An injury-hit France showed early signs of susceptibility – and within nine minutes, they were behind. The move started with a superb long pass from Harry Souttar, who played in Mathew Leckie down the right. A low cross found Craig Goodwin arriving fast at the far post, and the winger rifled high past Hugo Lloris.

With Lucas Hernandez forced off in the aftermath having fallen awkwardly when challenging Leckie, his replacement Theo Hernandez was nearly caught out moments after coming on, Mitchell Duke intercepting his loose pass and sending a shot whistling just too high.

Hernandez made a more positive impact at the other end in the 27th minute, picking up possession after the Socceroos had failed to clear a corner properly and whipping in a tantalising cross from the left that was met by Adrien Rabiot’s thumping header, giving Mat Ryan no chance.

Provider turned scorer five minutes later, Rabiot latching on to Kylian Mbappe’s clever flick and bursting into the box before unselfishly squaring for Giroud to tap in his 50th international goal.

Mbappe somehow volleyed over an Antoine Griezmann cross as France sought to extend their advantage before halftime, although Jackson Irvine’s header clipped the post as Australia came close to exposing their depleted back line again.

The Socceroos were unable to ask further questions in the second half, however, and instead two more goals in four minutes finished the contest.

First the irresistible Mbappe rose to nod in Ousmane Dembele’s cross after Griezmann’s shot had been cleared off the line and then raced away down the left and clipped the ball across for Giroud to head in his record-equalling goal and wrap up an ultimately comfortable win.- Sporting News

Own Kids Tormented Without Mum for 3yrs, VP Chiwenga Says Violators Of Children Will Be Arrested

Violators of children’s rights and parents will soon face criminal charges as government introduces stiffer penalties to curb sexual offences that have seen children as young as nine years old being impregnated.
Speaking at World Children’s Day commemorations hosted by Unicef in Harare yesterday, Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga said stiffer penalties, which include arresting parents of the victims, were underway.

“The government is deeply concerned over the number of children under 10 who are getting pregnant. Stiffer penalties will be introduced and will have to be done. Not only is the perpetrator going to be arrested, but also the parents. Children have to be protected because they are the future,” Chiwenga, who doubles up as Health and Child Care minister, said.

A nine-year-old girl from Masekesa village in Tsholotsho recently gave birth to a baby boy after having been allegedly raped by a close relative.

Another nine-year-old girl from Bindura is reported to be six months pregnant after being raped by two 17-year-old brothers.

Zimbabwe has been home to child marriages and early pregnancies for some time with authorities saying more than a third of girls are married off before the age of 18, and some before they turn 15. Some of the children have died while giving birth.

Chiwenga said: “Parents have a big role to look after their children and they should have time with their children. As a government we are going to make sure that the ills that are affecting children are brought to an end.

“There is no issue of peer pressure or consent up until one turns 18. I would like to assure you that we are ramping up programmes to ensure that the victims are rehabilitated. It is now imperative that the perpetrators are dealt with in terms of the laws.”

Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare minister Paul Mavima said government was in the process of enacting laws that protect the rights of children.

“We are in the process of enacting the Child Justice Bill, the Education Act, the Public Health Act to reinforce our commitment to child rights as well as the welfare of our children,” Mavima said.

“In order to reinforce these laws, the government of Zimbabwe has developed policies and programmes which include the national action plan for orphans and other vulnerable children. We are in the process of finalising the third generation of that action plan. Currently this action plan is under review and we will launch it on the 25th of this month after the review is complete.”

United Nations resident co-ordinator Edward Kallon said they were disturbed by the increasing media reports of child and adolescent pregnancies.

“Children should not give birth to children,” Kallon said.

“The rights of children must be protected for them to remain in school, grow free of any form of exploitation and abuse. When a girl becomes pregnant, her education may end; her prospects diminish and become more vulnerable to poverty and exclusion. Complications from pregnancy and childbirth are the leading cause of death among adolescent girls.”

Kallon also said there was an urgent need for the enforcement of laws to protect children’s rights. Unicef country representative Tajudeen Oyewale said government should also protect the rights of children with disabilities.

“Children with disabilities are rights holders to the same extent as any other children. States and communities must be inclusive, ensure access to social services is adapted for all its citizens, including their children with disabilities, and if needed through specialised services,” Oyewale said.

In Parliament yesterday, Mhangura legislator Precious Chinhamo-Masango also raised concern over young girls who are being sexually abused and the perpetrators never arrested.

“Children’s rights are being violated left, right and centre and perpetrators are walking scot free. Children have rights that must also be respected. In Zimbabwe it’s a sad story whereby rights of children are not even respected. Recently a nine-year-old got impregnated, this is just a tip of the iceberg because there are more cases,” she said.- Newsday

Carthage Eagles Frustrate Danes

Denmark were left to ponder a frustrating 2022 FIFA World Cup Group D opener as Tunisia earned a deserved point after a late VAR decision went in their favour.

When referee Cesar Ramos was asked to check an incident where Christian Eriksen’s corner hit the arm of Tunisia’s Yassine Meriah, the African side must have feared the worse.

But Ramos decided it did not merit a spot-kick and Tunisia, who have never qualified from the group stage, could celebrate a job well done.

They created the better first-half chances and Denmark were indebted to a brilliant save from goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel to deny Issam Jebali from scoring.

The Danes improved after the break and Andreas Skov Olsen had a goal disallowed for offside before Andreas Cornelius somehow failed to score when he headed against a post.

But they could not find a breakthrough and must regroup before facing defending champions France on Friday, while Tunisia tackle Australia on Saturday, November 26.- Sporting News

4k Health Workers Leave Zim

By A Correspondent- More than 4 000 health workers have left the country since 2021, the Health Services Board (HSB) has revealed.

HSB chairperson Dr Paulinus Sikosana on Sunday told Reuters that those who left over the past year include 1 700 registered nurses who resigned last year and more than 900 who left this year.

A large number of doctors and nurses in Zimbabwe have found work mainly in Britain, Australia and regional countries such as Namibia.

Zimbabwe’s health workers went on a week-long strike in June this year demanding to be paid in US dollars as inflation further weakened the local currency.

On Sunday, President Emmerson Mnangagwa said the government has to improve remuneration and conditions of service for medical practitioners to curb brain drain in the health sector.

Writing in his weekly column published in The Sunday News, Mnangagwa said the government will give land for free to those who wished to set up medical facilities. He said:

We have to competitively reward our doctors in order to guarantee greater staff retention in our hospitals, and in the country.

Many of our doctors continue to leave the country for greener pastures; they are hotly sought after, particularly in the rich West, because of their superior training facilities.

The Second Republic has to treat in-country medical staff retention as a foremost national goal.

More visible and substantive steps will be taken in the near future to improve the working conditions for our medical staff.

Teranga Lions Keen To Bounce Back

Senegal coach Aliou Cisse has explained his team’s biggest weakness following the 2-0 loss against Netherlands in the opening Group B match on Monday.

The Lions of Teranga put a competitive game but failed to convert any of their chances.

They conceded two late goals courtesy of Cody Gakpo and substitute Davy Klaassen’s strikes.

Cisse, who is without injured striker Sadio Mane at the tournament, rued his team’s failure to convert chances and urged his attackers to be more clinical in front of goal.

“We are disappointed to have not scored, we had two or three very good chances,” Cisse told reporters. “We needed to be more effective in front of goal.

“Ismaila and Krepin are responsible there, but of course, the absence of Mane is a problem for us… Our attackers are good and we know what they are capable of.

“It was a challenging game… We need to work on it (scoring goals) with Ismaila and the others. We expect a lot from him and Krepin.”

Cisse also gave an update on midfielder Cheikhou Kouyate and left back Abdou Diallo, who picked injuries in the game.

“I am worried about those who got injured…. for Abdou, it’s a muscular problem and Kouyate twisted his ankle, we need to check and make sure they are ready for the other games.”- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

England Bury Iran

England’s Fifa World Cup campaign opened in thoroughly convincing fashion as they outclassed Iran in an incident-packed match in Doha.

Gareth Southgate’s side strolled to victory, with Iran’s hopeless plight made worse by the early loss of goalkeeper Alireza Beiranvand to concussion after a clash of heads with team-mate Majid Hosseini.

Jude Bellingham got England off the mark in this World Cup with a soaring header from Luke Shaw’s cross 10 minutes before the break and the game was wrapped up before half-time thanks to Bukayo Saka’s fine strike and Raheem Sterling’s classy volley with the outside of his foot from Harry Kane’s cross.

Saka got his second before Iran’s supporters were given a moment of real delight when Mehdi Taremi scored a fine goal after 65 minutes – but England substitute Marcus Rashford then netted another smooth, composed strike with his first involvement.

To put the gloss on an incredibly dominant display, Jack Grealish slotted home from close range after a good run and pull back by Callum Wilson.

Iran did pull another back in injury time when Taremi slotted in a penalty after a John Stones foul.

The game was played out against the backdrop of more off-field controversy here in Qatar after England were forced to ditch plans to wear the OneLove armband promoting diversity and inclusivity under threat from Fifa of players being cautioned should they carry out the gesture of support.- BBC

Dutch Masters Triumph

Late goals from Cody Gakpo and Davy Klaassen gave Netherlands victory against Senegal in their opening Group A match of the 2022 World Cup.

Gakpo made a perfectly timed run to head home a beautifully weighted cross from Frenkie de Jong, before Klaassen tapped home to seal the win deep into injury time.

The Dutch are now undefeated in 16 matches under coach Louis van Gaal. They also stretched an unbeaten record in their opening game at World Cups that dates back to 1938.- Skysports

World Cup 2022: FIFA Threatens To Impose Sanctions On England, Germany

FIFA has threatened to impose sporting sanctions on European countries, who are planning to protest against Qatari government during the 2022 World Cup campaign.

England, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Wales, Switzerland and Netherlands confirmed their intentions to protest against the Middle Eastern nation’s stance on same-sex relationships by wearing the one love armbands.

According to a joint statement issued on Monday, the involved football associations have backed down from the planned protests after FIFA warned them of possible sanctions.

“FIFA has been very clear that it will impose sporting sanctions if our captains wear the armbands on the field of play,” the statement said.

“As national federations, we can’t put our players in a position where they could face sporting sanctions including bookings, so we have asked the captains not to attempt to wear the armbands in FIFA World Cup games.

“We were prepared to pay fines that would normally apply to breaches of kit regulations and had a strong commitment to wearing the armband.

“However we cannot put our players in the situation where they might be booked or even forced to leave the field of play.

“We are very frustrated by the Fifa decision which we believe is unprecedented – we wrote to Fifa in September informing them of our wish to wear the OneLove armband to actively support inclusion in football, and had no response. Our players and coaches are disappointed – they are strong supporters of inclusion and will show support in other ways.”

The development comes just days after FIFA President Gianni Infantino launched a tirade on the European countries who are criticising Qatar.

Infantino accused the Europeans of double standards and claimed the critics are deliberately misrepresenting the host nation.

“This criticism is profoundly unjust,” the Swiss football boss said.

“You don’t start accusing, fighting, insulting. You start engaging.

“We have heard many moral lessons from Europe and the western world.

“What we Europeans have been doing for the last 3000 years, we should be apologizing for the next 3000 years before starting to give moral lessons.”- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Key Facts About Oral Health

A new Global Oral Health Status Report published today by the World Health Organization (WHO) provides the first-ever comprehensive picture of oral disease burden with data profiles for 194 countries, giving unique insights into key areas and markers of oral health that are relevant for decision-makers.

The report shows that almost half of the world’s population (45% or 3.5 billion people) suffer from oral diseases, with 3 out of every 4 affected people living in low- and middle-income countries.

Global cases of oral diseases have increased by 1 billion over the last 30 years—a clear indication that many people do not have access to prevention and treatment of oral diseases.

“Oral health has long been neglected in global health, but many oral diseases can be prevented and treated with the cost-effective measures outlined in this report,” said WHO Director-General, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. “WHO is committed to providing guidance and support to countries so that all people, wherever they live and whatever their income, have the knowledge and tools needed to look after their teeth and mouths, and to access services for prevention and care when they need them.”

Rapid increase of oral diseases

The most common oral diseases are dental caries (tooth decay), severe gum disease, tooth loss and oral cancers. Untreated dental caries is the single most common condition globally, affecting an estimated 2.5 billion people. Severe gum disease ̶ a major cause of total tooth loss ̶ is estimated to affect 1 billion people worldwide. About 380 000 new cases of oral cancers are diagnosed every year.

The report underscores the glaring inequalities in access to oral health services, with a huge burden of oral diseases and conditions affecting the most vulnerable and disadvantaged populations. People on low incomes, people living with disabilities, older people living alone or in care homes, those living in remote and rural communities and people from minority groups carry a higher burden of oral diseases.

This pattern of inequalities is similar to other noncommunicable diseases such as cancers, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and mental disorders. Risk factors common to noncommunicable diseases such as high sugar intake, all forms of tobacco use, and harmful use of alcohol all contribute to the global oral health crisis.

Barriers to delivering oral health services

Only a small percentage of the global population is covered by essential oral health services, and those with the greatest need often have the least access to services. The key barriers to delivering access to oral health services for all include:

Oral health care requires high out-of-pocket expenditures. This often leads to catastrophic costs and significant financial burden for families and communities.
The provision of oral health services largely relies on highly specialized providers using expensive high-tech equipment and materials, and these services are not well integrated with primary health care models.
Poor information and surveillance systems, combined with low priority for public oral health research are major bottlenecks to developing more effective oral health interventions and policies.
Opportunities to improve global oral health

The report showcases many promising opportunities to improve the state of global oral health including:

adopting a public health approach by addressing common risk factors through promoting a well-balanced diet low in sugars, stopping use of all forms of tobacco, reducing alcohol consumption and improving access to effective and affordable fluoride toothpaste.
planning oral health services as part of national health and improving integration of oral health services in primary health care as part of universal health coverage.
redefining oral health workforce models to respond to population needs and expanding competencies of non-dental healthcare workers to expand oral health service coverage; and
strengthening information systems by collecting and integrating oral health data into national health monitoring systems.
“Placing people at the heart of oral health services is critical if we are to achieve the vision of universal health coverage for all individuals and communities by 2030,” said Dr Bente Mikkelsen, WHO Director for Noncommunicable Diseases.

She added: “This report acts as a starting point by providing baseline information to help countries monitor progress of implementation, while also providing timely and relevant feedback to decision-makers at the national level. Together, we can change the current situation of oral health neglect.”

Duo Nabbed For Smuggling Explosives Into SA

By A Correspondent- Two suspects aged 33 and 40 years are expected to appear at the Musina Magistrates Court in South Africa after they were allegedly found in possession of 400 kilogrammes of commercial explosives on the South African side of the Beitbridge Border Post on Friday last week.

South African Police Services (Saps) spokesperson for Limpopo province Colonel Malesela Ledwaba did not give the value of the explosives believed to be of Zambian origin.

“The suspects were arrested at about 0050 hours as they crossed into South Africa from Zimbabwe.  This was after their truck with two trailers was stopped and upon searching it, police together with [South African Revenue Service] SARS custom officials discovered 16x25kg bags containing commercial explosives hidden inside the two trailers,” Ledwaba said.

He said the Saps Musina Explosives Unit attended the scene and 17 reels of detonating fuse, 1 250 units of connector capped fuse and 2 569x28mmx270mm units blasting cartridge explosives superpower 90 made in Zambia were confiscated.

“The male driver and a female passenger were arrested on the spot and the truck was confiscated,” he said.

The contraband passed through the Zimbabwean side of the border only to be intercepted on the South African side despite Zimbabwe boasting sophisticated scanning technology.

In January, July and September, different people were arrested on the South African side of the border in possession of large quantities of explosives after passing through the Zimbabwean side.

Pangolin Smuggling Duo Arrested In SA

“The suspects were arrested on Friday 18 November 2022,” Ledwaba said.

“The suspects were arrested following a sting joint operation by Saps members comprising the Crime Intelligence Unit, Stock Theft and Endangered Species Unit, Beitbridge Task Team joined by members of South African National Defence Forces and Wildlife Centre after information was received about individuals in possession of protected species who had just crossed into South Africa from Zimbabwe using a boat.”

The pair was apprehended around 1200 hours along the western borderline.

Armed Robbers Pounce On Illegal Diamond Dealer

By A Correspondent- Armed robbers raided an illegal diamond buyer at Marange diamond fields last Friday and robbed him of US$10 000 and a vehicle at gunpoint after dangling pieces of diamonds to the unsuspecting diamond dealer.

Manicaland assistant police spokesperson Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka yesterday confirmed the robbery.

He said Bearlright Mukwawaya (35), who has since recovered his vehicle, was robbed by four armed robbers.

The development comes soon after a security guard at Anjin Investments, Munyaradzi Nkomo was arrested in possession of 91 diamond pieces while attempting to smuggle them from the premises.

“We reported an armed robbery in the Chiadzwa diamond mining area On November 18, 2022 around 12 midnight.  An armed robbery occurred at Old Jinani premises whereby Bearlright Mukwawaya from Mutare was robbed of his US$10 000,”a police memo read.

“It is alleged that Mukwawaya, an illegal diamond dealer, was driving an unregistered GD6 Legend 50, black and white in colour, when he received a phone call from a registered Econet number.

The caller introduced himself as an illegal diamond panner and wanted Mukwawaya to meet his syndicate at Jinani for diamond dealings in the general area of Tonhorai. Mukwawaya came in the company of his friend, George Zeya.

“On arrival, Mukwawaya and the friend met up with a syndicate of four males who produced four pieces of diamonds. The syndicate got inside the vehicle and handed over the pieces of diamonds to Mukwawaya.”

Police said while assessing the diamonds, one male from the syndicate produced a pistol and pointed it at Mukwawaya, as the other suspect hooked his neck with his arm.

“The victim surrendered and told the suspects to take US$2 000 from his trousers’ right pocket and another US$8 000 from his vehicle (glovebox). On noticing that his friend was in danger, Zeya tried to intervene, but could not contain the situation as he was attacked by other two suspects with a steelbar and sustained a deep cut. Zeya fell down and was stabbed with a knife.

The suspects got into the car and shoved Mukwawaya out and drove away. They drove through Tonhorai shops along Mashukashuka Road and abandoned the vehicle 400 metres after Tonhorai Primary School,” added the memo.

The matter was reported at Marange Police Station.

34 Apostolic Sect Members Convicted For Protesting In Harare

A Zimbabwean court on Monday 21 November 2022 convicted 34 congregants, who had been on trial on charges of staging an anti-government protest against the country’s agonising political and economic crisis.

The 34 congregants, who are also members of Zimbabwe Transformative Party (ZTP), an opposition political party, led by 52 year-old Kanyenzura Parere, who is a Bishop of Mirirai Jehovha Apostolic Church, had been on trial after they were arrested by Zimbabwe Republic Police officers on 9 July 2022 and charged with criminal nuisance as defined in section 46 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act.

During trial, prosecutors alleged that the 34, who were represented by
Evans Moyo of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights, unlawfully acted in a manner which is likely to create a nuisance by walking on the roads and pavements in Harare’s central business district while singing a gospel song with the lyrics “Emmanuel tisunungureiwo tanzwa ne nhamo” and thereby obstructed the free passage and movement of people and
vehicles.

In convicting the 34 congregants, Harare Magistrate Stanford Mambanje said he was convinced by the testimony of some witnesses who testified during the trial of the congregants, whom he said had no reason to lie and who ordered the ZTP party members to disperse as they were doing something wrong.

By Court Reporter | The executor of Zimbabwe’s late veteran businessman, Edward Nyanyiwa, Clever Mandizvidza has been permanently booted from managing the man’s estate.

Supreme Court

Mandizvidza had appealed an earlier judgement by the High Court in March which ordered him off the estate following an application by one of the businessman’ daughters, Henrietta.

He was described as a greedy Estate Executor after distributing USD11 each to children out of a USD240,000 section of the estate. By law, Mandizvidza was only allowed to touch the company at the level of its shares for distribution but we went on to asset strip the whole entity.

Mandizvidza had at the time of the verdict ceased all disbursements l to beneficiaries for 3 years. One of the children alleged to ZimEye saying, “that was meant to weaken us, so we do not take him to court.”

Henrietta Nyanyiwa, had argued that the executor, was charging 15% of the estate’s gross assets as opposed to the Statutory 5% and documents showed that he had wrongly valuated properties.

Mandizvidza’s defense was that the valuation had been guided per Section 6 of the Estate Duty Act and that the auditors who had valued the companies had taken into account all relevant facts and considerations.

Ruling, Justice Chitukuta and Justice Guvava said the decision by the Master of the High Court to make Mandizvidza continue as an executor was improper, and also said the lawyer will have to bear his own costs on the case as he appealed to the Supreme Court for his private interest.

Speaking to ZimEye.com on Tuesday days after the verdict, Clever Mandizvidza said he is content with the decision despite him being the loser. He said:

“So we are saying, if this is the court’s finding…remember I deal with so many cases; so if the court says, no, on this one we believe you must put your hands off, leave it, let the court chose another person, I should be okay with that, because this is not my personal…

“I should not develop personal interest in an estate, you follow? What I should defend is my professional opinion, when I am given a task I should apply the law without fear or favour.

“But if the court says okay, okay this is your legal mind, this is how you see it, we think this assignment, leave it, let’s give it to another, so we might have to wait for the other executor, he will study, he will see, and he will also interpret things, and then we will see whether he does things differently but more or less the law that governs administration of estates is the same.”

Meanwhile, part of the verdict reads:

The first respondent, was entitled as of right, to approach the court a quo under the common law. Correspondingly, the court a quo had the power to order the appellant’s removal under the same law. I am satisfied that there were sufficient grounds before the court a quo for the removal of the appellant as executor. His continuance as an executor of the estate which he was itching to dissipate was prejudicial to that estate.

In respect of the court a quo’sapproach in ordering the removal of the appellant as

executor without first setting aside the Master’s decision it was improper as it should have set aside the Master’s decision first. The omission ought to be corrected in terms of s 22(1)(b)(ix) of the Supreme Court Act by the insertion of the necessary order.

There is no basis for overturning the court a quo’sdecision on the tariff employed

by the appellant to levy fees against the estate. On a proper interpretation of the words “brought to account” the appellant could not be said to have brought to account any of the estate’s capital assets that he itemised in the distribution accounts.

In respect of the costs in the court a quo,it was only appropriate that they had to

be mulcted on the estate. The order as to costs must be set aside. However, the costs of this appeal stand to be paid by the appellant because he came on appeal to vindicate his personal interests and not those of the estate. There is no basis for saddling the estate with the costs of an appeal not instituted for its benefit but that of the appellant.

It is trite that executors may, in appropriate and exceptional circumstances, be

burdened with costs. This includes where it is desirable for a court to mark its dissatisfaction with the executor’s conduct. See the Mpansi case (supra) at 590E – H. As a matter of fact, the

appellant’s conduct puts the whole machinery of the administration of the deceased person’s estates into disrepute and as such he cannot escape the consequences of his misadventure.

Accordingly, it be and is hereby ordered as follows:

  1. The appeal succeeds in part.
  2. The judgment of the court a quo is set aside in part and amended in the following respects:
    1. In terms of section 22(1)(b)(ix) of the Supreme Court Act [Chapter 7:13], by the insertion of a new paragraph as paragraph three, after paragraph two, in the following terms:

“The decision by the first respondent dated 5 October 2022 allowing the second respondent’s continuance as executor of the Estate of the late Edward Nyanyiwa under DR 471/19 be and is hereby set aside.

  1. By the deletion of para 5.
  1. By the deletion of paragraph six and substitution of:

“The costs of this application shall be borne by the Estate of the late Edward Nyanyiwa.”

  1. By renumbering it as follows:
    1. the original paragraph three shall become para 4; and
    1. the original paragraph four shall become para 5.
  2. For the avoidance of doubt, the appeal is dismissed in respect of the remaining parts of the judgment of the court a quo
  3. The appellant shall pay the costs of this appeal in his personal capacity.

Desperate Unemployed Zim Women Turn To Thigh Vending

By A Correspondent- Zimbabwe has recorded an increase in commercial sex workers, with Harare adjudged to be the biggest red-light district, a new survey by the National Aids Council (Nac), Health and Child Care ministry and the Zimbabwe Civil Liberties and Drug Network has revealed.

A recent survey by the Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency (ZimStat) revealed that 59,6% of women in the country were unemployed and many of them were apparently turning to commercial sex work to make ends meet, according to the recent report.

In the report titled Zimbabwe’s situational analysis of drug use and injection in five provinces to form HIV and TB programming for people who use drugs, Nac and partners noted that: “In Harare the most often mentioned source of income is sex work (36,07%); the higher rate in this province is linked to the mobilisation strategy, which include recruitment of respondents in an area where sex work takes place.”

The report said in Mashonaland Central, sex work was the third most often mentioned source of income (18,64%).

Sex work was fourth in Mashonaland West (15,25%). Bulawayo (16,98%) and Mashonaland Central (13,56%) had the highest number of participants reporting not to be earning any money,” the report read.

The report also revealed that 24,91% of people were not formally employed, but owned small-scale businesses.

“In all provinces, except Harare, more than 40% of participants reported occasional jobs as their main sources of income. The second most often mentioned source was small-scale business (24,91% of the total sample),” the report said.

The recent ZimStat 2022 population and Housing Census preliminary results on the labour force revealed that the national unemployment rate stood at 14,8%.

“Across all provinces, unemployment was higher for females than males. In Matabeleland North, 31,6% of females and 17, 9% of males were unemployed.

“Corruption At VID, CVR”: Transport Ministry Effects Reshuffle

By A Correspondent- The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development has reshuffled senior management at the Vehicle Inspection Department (VID) and the Central Vehicle Registry (CVR) in a bid to curb corruption.

The transport ministry will not tolerate corruption in all parastatals under its purview.

A local publication reported citing Transport Minister Felix Mhona.

He made the remarks addressing delegates at the ministry’s strategic planning workshop in Bulawayo Thursday. He said:

We have transferred all officials at VID following allegations of corruption. I and the permanent secretary had a mammoth task at CVR where some senior officials were resisting promotion.

You had people with masters declining to be promoted. Why? No one has a goblin at work.

The transport and transport infrastructure sector has not been spared by the vagaries of climate change. Equally, our choices, use and development of the sector have a bearing on the status of climate change in our motherland.

Transport in all its forms is an integral component of our everyday activities and lifestyles. It defines both our countryside, urban spaces and centres. The challenge is the continued carbonisation of the atmosphere, an issue that has seen the increase in climate change, sometimes as a result of the types of vessels, equipment, machines and vehicles we use.

For years, VID officials have been accused of demanding bribes and fleecing money from those seeking to acquire driver’s licenses while corruption allegations and poor work ethics by some workers at CVR have also been cited.

Crisis In Zimbabwe Coalition Tears Into Zanu PF

By A Correspondent- Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition (CiZC) spokesperson, Obert Masaraure, has likened ZANU PF to a rapist pastor who uses Sunday services to abuse congregants.

Masaraure, who is also the president of the Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ), says ZANU PF insists on general elections every five years in order to “rape” democracy. He said:

On elections [ZANU PF] behaves like a rapist pastor, the pastor insists that church service is due every Sunday, but uses church service to rape.

ZANU-PF insists that elections are held every 5 yrs in line with the Constitution but uses the elections to “rape” democracy.

Zimbabwe has a history of disputed elections, with opposition political parties accusing ZANU PF of using the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) and other state institutions to rig elections.

Data analysts Team Pachedu say they have exposed a number of irregularities in the voters’ roll which has raised concern among opposition political parties.

According to Team Pachedu, ZEC has moved registered voters from their wards and constituencies without their consent.

Some political commentators have pointed out that the voters’ roll is prone to manipulation to give one party an advantage over others in elections.

“Respect Copyright Laws”: Shinsoman Tells Prophet T Freddy

By A Correspondent- Zimdancehall chanter Shinsoman, born Tinashe Romeo Anthony, said that he is not happy with self-proclaimed prophet and gospel musician T Freddy using his song in a church service without permission.

Video trending on various social media platforms shows T Freddy and his congregation dancing to Shinsoman’s song, “Hativasiye Vane Nyota” during a church service. Said Shinsoman:

I am not happy at all. T Freddy, who is a musician himself, is supposed to know and respect copyright laws.

He should have approached me and done what was supposed to be done.

I nearly took legal action against him for using my song without my permission. He should have paid for using that track.

I then contacted him and we made peace. I forgave him and decided against suing him.

This should serve as a stern warning to those who are not respecting copyright laws.

I don’t want anyone to use my songs without my permission.

Next time, I will not be as forgiving as I did with T Freddy.

According to The Sunday Mail, this is not the first time that local musicians have clashed over the use of songs without permission.

Gospel musician Charles Charamba, at one time, was furious after “King Shaddy” used some lyrics from his hit song “Machira Chete” without permission.

Courts “Reluctant” To Handle Sikhala’s Case

By A Correspondent- Citizen’s Coalition for Change (CCC) interim vice chairperson and legislator, Job Sikhala’s quest for freedom was made impossible Monday after his case appeared too hot to handle as it was moved between three courts before being postponed.

Last Friday, the legislator’s latest bail bid was postponed after a power cut hit proceedings at the Harare courts.

Sikhala then re-appeared before Harare Magistrate, Feresi Chakanyuka Monday, only for the case to be rolled over to Tuesday (November 22).

The court postponed the case Monday citing that it was not prepared to hear the matter Monday as the record had been given to the magistrate at 2pm.

The court also emphasised that it had other pending virtual records it had to take care of amounting to approximately 56 and time would not permit.

His lawyer, Thabani Mpofu exhibited frustration as his client’s case was being passed over between courts.

“I have been to several courts Your Worship, first Court 15 the trial court and then to Court 14, then now in Court 6.

We make no special preference, it’s a respectful quest that may you facilitate for us to make our application for bail,” he said.

The court however, explained that it was ambushed and could not handle the case.

This came after magistrates from the Regional Court ordered that the case be moved to Court 14.

After trial prosecutor then vacated the premises, the available prosecutor could not handle the case, which was due for trial.

The CCC lawmaker earlier applied for bail arguing changed circumstances and the case was similarly postponed to a later date.

The top lawyer is accused of disturbing investigations into the murder of slain CCC activist, Moreblessing Ali, by allegedly posting a video demanding justice over her gruesome killing.

He is jointly charged with another lawmaker, Godfrey Sithole in a case of incitement and facts are based on the same video. Sithole was recently granted bail.

All efforts to secure freedom have been blocked at both the lower courts and the High Court on a number of occasions with the judiciary ruling that the duo was likely to re-offend.

Former ZAPU Secretary Challenges Unjust Expulsion

By A Correspondent- The former ZAPU Secretary General, Strike Mkandla, is questioning his expulsion from the party, saying he was not given the specific reasons for the move.

He also argued that he was not among senior party members who took the party to court.

Mkandla, Matthew Sibanda, Ernest Ndlovu, Mildred Mkandla, and Akim Nkala were expelled from ZAPU on 12 November 2022 on the grounds that they had chosen a path that would harm the party.

But he maintains that he was fired because of allegations that he was planning to form and launch a new party, reports which he denied.

In a letter dated 17 November 2022, albeit not addressed to anyone, Mkandla said no charges were presented for the expelled to either “accept or challenge” in a disciplinary committee hearing of the Council of Elders.

He also argued that they were expelled from the party without a disciplinary hearing, as required by the party constitution.

However, speaking in an interview with CITE, ZAPU national spokesperson, Msongelwa Ndlovu, said Mkandla’s letter was not addressed to anyone in the party, and therefore does not merit a response. Said Ndlovu:

I don’t know what Dr Mkandla meant when he said the SG must send it to relevant persons because the SG of ZAPU is not anyone’s postboy.

Dr Mkandla is a former SG, he knows what to do, and he knows how to address letters if he wants to send a letter to ZAPU.

As far as we are concerned there is no ZAPU letter that was written by the former SG. If he is to write a letter we will respond.

We will not use official communication from the party to respond.
Ndlovu admitted there were no suspension letters because “they were expelled with dishonour.”

Zim Police Ordered To Compensate Assault And Torture Victim

Chitungwiza Civil Magistrates Court has ordered Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) to pay ZWL400 000 as compensation to a man, who was severely assaulted and tortured in 2021 for allegedly violating curfew regulations.

46 year-old Edcock Dube of Chitungwiza, instituted legal action against Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Minister Kazembe Kazembe and ZRP Commissioner-General Godwin Matanga and a police officer only identified as Chafunga, demanding ZWL1 million as compensation for pain and suffering and embarrassment and humiliation after he was subjected to unlawful assault, torture and inhumane and degrading treatment at the hands of some ZRP officers who included Chafunga.

Dube had been arrested by ZRP officers on 25 February 2021 while on his way home from work for allegedly violating the curfew regulations imposed by government in 2020 in a bid to stop the unnecessary movement of people and to curb the spread of coronavirus. He was taken
to St Mary’s Police Station, where he was detained in the police cells while Chafunga handcuffed him to a pole and assaulted him with a truncheon on his head and hands.

As a result of the assault, Dube ended up nursing a fractured finger and sustained injuries to his eye and thereby limiting his eyesight.

He was then assisted by Tinashe Chinopfukutwa of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights, who on 29 April 2021, helped him to sue Kazembe, Matanga and Chafunga for damages at Chitungwiza Civil Magistrates Court.

After presiding over the trial of Hon. Kazembe, Matanga and Chafunga, Chitungwiza Provincial Magistrate Sheunesu Matova recently ordered the trio to pay ZWL400 000 in damages to Dube after holding them liable for the violation of the Chitungwiza resident’s fundamental rights.

Ultimatum For GMB Management

By A Correspondent- Grain Marketing Board (GMB) workers have given the parastatal’s management a 14-day ultimatum to review their salaries which they say are no longer enough to cater to their basic needs.

According to a notice addressed to the parastatal’s management dated 16 November 2022 and signed by GMB and Silo Food Industries Worker’s Union secretary-general David Chigogo, the lowest-paid worker is earning less than ZWL$30 000 per month. Reads the notice:

The employers have disregarded the prevailing economic environment in which most goods and services are pegged in US dollars.

This has severely eroded the buying power of employees’ salaries as evidenced by the lowest-paid employee earning a basic salary of $29 111.

To make matters worse, there is no USD component to compensate for the meagre salary.
This salary has been stagnant since April 2022. How do employers expect employees to survive?

The workers also claimed that they are being made to work during weekends to distribute farming inputs under Pfumvudza and the Presidential Input Scheme.

They said:

Employees even come to work on Sundays in order to fulfil inputs distribution targets but their plea for salary review (or) payment of overtime in full and USD component has not been heard.

The management has kept on procrastinating salary reviews hiding behind their principal citing no funding but employees are saying enough is enough.

If the employers are failing to value the services of employees, we are saying it is time to put tools down.

Other parastatals have been awarded salary increments by the same principal.

Chris Hani’s Murderer Freed

By IOL | Chris Hani’s killer Janusz Waluś was a first time offender and he had a clean record while in prison, were some of the reasons reasons the Constitutional Court relied on in releasing the Polish murderer who shot dead the SACP leader outside his Boksburg home in 1993.

Waluś shot and killed Hani on the morning of 10 April 1993. He has served 29 years for the murder.

His release comes after numerous failed applications by the minister of justice with the first parole hearing held in 2011.

He turned to the Concourt after the Minister of Justice Ronald Lamola in 2020 once again refused him parole.

In a unanimous judgment delivered by Chief Justice Raymond Zondo on Monday, the highest court in the land ordered Lamola to take the necessary steps to place Walus on parole within 10 days of this judgment.

Zondo said the court relied on the following factors.

– The behaviour and adjustment of the offender during his incarceration and the clean record he has within the correctional centre;

– The multidisciplinary programs attended by the offender within the correctional centre aimed at his rehabilitation;

– The availability of support systems to the offender and employment prospects in the event of him being placed on parole;

– The fact that the offender is a first offender;

– The reports of the psychologists and social workers;

– The remorse on the part of the offender for the crime of murder committed; and

– The opinions of the psychologists that the risk of the offender re-offending is low.”

Zondo said Waluś disciplinary record inside prison over more than 25 years supports the mentioned factors.

“There is no complaint that over so many years the applicant has ever had any incidents of ill-discipline.

“By all accounts he seems to have been an exemplary prisoner.”

Zondo agreed that Waluś committed a horrendous crime, however, “no matter how serious the crime is for which a person is sent to jail, the court has no power to say that he or she should not be considered for parole for a period after the expiry of 25 years of imprisonment”.

He said a period of more than 15 years has lapsed since Waluś became eligible for consideration to be placed on parole.

In fact, he was eligible to be considered for parole in 2005. Zondo added that Waluś has apologised to Hani’s family including his children and wife more than once.

The minister also accepts that he has shown remorse for the crime he committed.

“He cannot do anything about the nature of the crime he committed, its seriousness nor can he do anything about the sentencing remarks that the trial court had made about him and the crime of which he was convicted.”

He said the minister also accepted that Waluś’s risk of re-offending if he were to be placed on parole is low, which makes it unreasonable to deny him parole.

Zondo left the conditions of parole over to the minister to decide. —IOL

Drivers License Not Needed For Voting

The Electoral Amendment Bill, which seeks to relax registration requirements for voters ahead of next year’s harmonised elections and amend several provisions of the main Act to bring it to conformity with the Constitution, was gazetted on Friday.
Registration is now easier since potential voters just need to give their address without providing documentary back-up.

When voters were required to produce proof of residence to register to vote, some tenants not paying the primary rates would face challenges in acquiring the proof of residence from landlords who either did not want to be bothered or simply did not want to admit they had a tenant.

The Bill confirms that a driver’s licence cannot be used as identification, voters needing to produce the national ID card or a valid passport to prove identity.

The driver’s licence is issued by the Central Vehicle Registry while the other two documents are official documents from the Registrar General and the civil registry offices.

The new law will also provide the timeframe within which national assembly and local authority candidates can withdraw from contesting in an election and also provide for the incorporation of the 30 percent women’s quota and the youth quota.

It is envisaged that once the Bill is enacted into law, it will assist in ensuring that only citizens are able to vote in an election, that proper candidates are allowed to contest in an election, providing clarity on when and how a candidate can withdraw their candidature in an election so as to afford ZEC sufficient time to make changes to the design of the ballot and advising the electorate of any changes to the candidature in an election.

Section 45C of the Act, which deals with allocation of party-list seats and disqualification of votes for purposes of party-list elections, also brings into effect Constitutional amendments that reserve seats for youth members and the election of candidates to the middle tier of provincial councils.

Each of the 10 electoral provinces will have elected by proportional representative six seats in the Senate, six seats reserved for women in the National Assembly, one seat reserved for a youth aged from 21 to 35 in the National Assembly.

The party lists for senators for each province must alternate, in terms of existing law, between men and women, with a woman in the top position.

Besides the central Parliament, the harmonised election will also generate the distribution of 10 seats in provincial councils for the eight non-metropolitan councils. According to the envisaged law, in every electoral province there shall be elected by indirect proportional representation one youth member, that is, a person aged 21 to 35.

The Bill also lays down the details for using the vote in each ward to elect the councillor representing that ward to generate the 30 percent additional women councillors to be elected by indirect proportional representation as now laid down in the Constitution.

As 30 percent only gives a whole number when the number of councillors is a multiple of 10, the Bill gives the formula for rounding down when a fraction is under half, and rounding up to the nearest whole number when it is half or more.

The problem of candidates withdrawing is being amended. Candidates can withdraw before 21 days before the poll or first day of multiple days of voting. That gives the commission time to modify the design of the ballot paper.

After that a candidate’s name remains on the ballot paper, even if they drive around begging people not to vote for them.

Withdrawals have to be in writing and sent to the Chief Elections Officer. -state media

Three Lions Outclass Iran

Jonathan Moyo Attacks Chamisa

By- Zanu PF ‘s prodigal son Jonathan Moyo has attacked CCC President Nelson Chamisa after his apology letter to Zanu PF.

Moyo said Chamisa wanted to keep their association with the G40 cabal a secret and use them as his “attack dogs” against Zanu PF.

Moyo told New24 that Chamisa and his supporters believed that the G40 cabal would never find acceptance in both ZANU PF and the opposition. He said:
Since the November 2017 Zim military coup, Chamisa and his supporters manufactured an imbroglio wherein the so-called G40 – which was specifically targeted by the coup – would be indefinite, if not permanently caught between a rock and a hard place, such that on the one hand, G40 would remain at war with ZANU PF, and on the other hand, it would remain at war with MDC formations, including the CCC; Chamisa’s personal project.
Chamisa wanted the so-called G40 to be in a permanent state of war against everyone, for him to hold it hostage as his attack dog against ZANU PF.
The former ZANU PF Politburo member said Chamisa’s game plan was to have him (Moyo) fight the opposition’s battles against ZANU PF. He said:
In fact, Chamisa and his supporters had banked on having me, in particular, fighting ZANU PF for them, with Chamisa telling his base that he has no dealings of any kind with me; and his trolls telling Chamisa’s base that I am supporting him, not because I love him, but because I hate Mnangagwa. That was Chamisa’s game plan.
He always gave the impression that he and I were not working together at all; yet we interacted many times a day, 24/7, between 2018 and early 2022.
Moyo claimed that he once confronted Chamisa and demanded to know his reasons for being secretive about their dealings. He said:
When I challenged Chamisa about [the] duplicitous stance in November 2021, he said no formidable tree makes public its roots.
I told him that his analogy was inappropriate, undemocratic, unprofessional, wrong, and satanic; he mumbled some mumbo jumbo, and I bade him farewell, which later turned out to be for good.

Dutch Masters Edge Battling Teranga Lions

Late goals from Cody Gakpo and Davy Klaassen gave Netherlands victory against Senegal in their opening Group A match of the 2022 World Cup.

Gakpo made a perfectly timed run to head home a beautifully weighted cross from Frenkie de Jong, before Klaassen tapped home to seal the win deep into injury time.

The Dutch are now undefeated in 16 matches under coach Louis van Gaal. They also stretched an unbeaten record in their opening game at World Cups that dates back to 1938.- Skysports

Dr Stop It Tears Into Zhuwao

My Dear People

I am struggling to recover from the levels of betrayal and treachery by Baba’s nephew Dread Zhuwao and the man whom we rescued from flying bullets in 2017, Jonso.

The two former G40 kingpins literally went on their hands and knees begging for forgiveness from the corrupted Zanu PF led by Ngwena, who removed Baba from power via that cowardly coup.

In an open letter dated November 15, 2022, and signed by the two traitors, it said they should have never denounced the ruling party.

“Between 2018 and 2020 – on the back of the 15 November 2017 military coup that ousted President Mugabe and his government from power and violently targeted us and other comrades linked with the so-called G40 — we associated ourselves and used the hashtag “Zanu PF Must Go” (#ZanuPFMustGo), in our public messaging and communication,” they wrote.

“Whereas we stopped using the hashtag and disassociated ourselves from it quite some time back, it is our considered judgment that we owe you a long overdue apology for having used the hashtag and for having associated ourselves with it, in the first place.”

Johnso and Dread Zhuwao begging Baba’s tormentors for forgiveness is betrayal that would make Judas Iscariot green with envy.

Is this how they repay his kindness? Were they also promised 30 pieces of silver?

Dread Zhuwao and Johnso have shown that Baba’s principles clearly didn’t cascade down to these two.

Johnso’s treachery I could understand as he has a long history of flip flopping, but Patrick muzukuru came as a major shock.

So much for blood being thicker than water! Baba would have never stood for this shameful kind of weakness.

Never in a thousand years! Munopenga!

As usual my successor Page 2 girl aka Dr Amai 11 continues to gallivant across the country in an attempt to be a latter day Mother Theresa.

After being told recently by her band of parrot……. Ooops I mean reporters kkkkkk that she was now the major cause of marriages in Kanyemba, we were told that no words could be expressed when she met with an impreg_nated nine-year-girl in Bulawayo recently.

She even said she had ‘goosebumps” as the girl rested her head on her.

The so-called hug between the two was of course captured and one could not help notice the eye she gave the photographer to make sure that the “moment’ was being captured properly kkkkkkk.

This need for attention I could have never matched in my time.

Not one to be left behind (as is his mantra) by wifey in the craving for attention stakes is Ngwena, who calls almost every government programme presidential this, presidential that.

From presidential scholarships to presidential inputs, he is desperate to be seen as the country’s benefactor in all spheres of the economy when in actual fact it is the taxpayer’s money being used.

He has now even gone to call civil servants 13th cheque of an extra US$200 a ‘presidential bonus’. Ehehehede!!

As if the money is coming out of his pocket. Munopenga!!

Anyway me and Baba were used to Ngwena’s deceptive tendencies, which is why Gushungo fired him for his lack of probity.

Ngwena’s crusade against corruption continues to be exposed for the hot air that it is.

The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (Zacc), which the government claims is the major corruption buster cannot even retain its workers as they are fleeing the impoverished outfit in droves.

Instead of fighting corruption their employees are fighting to leave the institution for greener pastures kkkkkk.

Who can blame them from fleeing this poverty-infested organisation where one is more likely to catch rodents than corrupt individuals in their offices?

The Zacc boss Loice Matanda Moyo revealed that the catch and release problem of accused persons in high profile corruption cases is being caused by witness fatigue and lack of witness protection.

It is typical of Ngwena to fire one commission to replace them with an even more incompetent team than the previous one.

Honestly, how can a corrupt government fight corruption? It is like fighting against itself kkkkkkkkk.

The Oxford professor Mthuli will be presenting the so-called budget this week where he will present fictitious budget allocations to ministries and government departments only to distribute a quarter (If not less) of the amounts he would have said he has allocated.

Like his boss Ngwena, Mthuli has mastered the art of hypocrisy.

He has been waxing lyrical about the need to use our local currency for transactions as we go down the dedollarisation path.

But he did not heed his advice at the album launch for songstress Sandra Ndebele.

Dazzled by Ndebele’s dance moves, Mthuli forgot all about dedollarisation as he stumped up more than US$8000 for the album with not one RTGS included in the transaction.

So much for the drive for the use of local currency!

11yrs Stuck On Hospital Bed

Mr Nkomichi James Dube (55) who was involved in a freak accident in Hwange, has been admitted at Binga District Hospital for the past 11 years.
He has a catheter that helps him relieve himself because of the injuries he suffered following the accident.

Mr Dube used to live at his plot in Siabuwa area with his wife and three children before he was involved in the accident.

He used to work as a general hand at Binga District Hospital herding the institution’s cattle, working in the garden and doing any other job assigned to him.

Mr Dube who was left paralysed following the accident, said he does not want to relive the accident as it has traumatised him.

All he said was that he was in pain and wants to go back to Bulawayo for treatment.

“I’m in pain, Binga Hospital has been my home since I was hit by a car in Hwange town 11 years go,” said Mr Dube.

He said his wife died years ago and he has not visited his three children since the accident.

“What is painful is that not a single relative has bothered to visit me at the hospital hence I am now hopeless. I am in excruciating pain and I am appealing for help to seek specialised treatment,”

Mr Dube said he can be found at Binga Hospital as he has no cellphone or any contacts as his relatives abandoned him years ago.

He cannot eat solids following the accident.

“When I was operated something happened and my anus was opened. Another doctor decided to close it and as a result I am not able to pass bowels properly. Eating insima (isitshwala/sadza) is problematic as I won’t be able to pass bowels,” said Mr Dube.

He said his private parts were also damaged.

Mr Dube said he now survives on food that the hospital provides and from well-wishers.

“The only food that I can eat is porridge, or anything liquid. It helps as I can pass my bowls without any problems. People help here and there but I’m suffering,” said Mr Dube.

The catheter is now very old and urgently needs replacement.

Binga District Medical Officer, Dr Sibonginkosi Ncube said Mr Dube suffers from epilepsy and has a violent character.

“I found Mr Dube here and he has been at the hospital since the accident in 2011. At one time we sent him home to his place in Siabuwa but he was violent to care givers hence he is back here.

“He is a social welfare case and we are doing our best to take care of him as well as provide the required medication,” said Dr Ncube. Chronicle

Grandpa Forces Self On Mentally Challenged Woman

AN 86-YEAR-OLD Makoni grandpa who was caught red-handed as he was s_3xually abusing a mentally challenged woman (22) was jailed six years for the offence.

Katesi Mamvura of Nzvimbe Village was convicted by Rusape regional magistrate, Mr Francis Mapfumo, after pleading not guilty to the offence.

Mamvura denied the charges saying he was caught just before the act.

However, he was convicted after a full trial and sentenced to six years imprisonment.

Three years were set aside on condition of good behaviour.

Prosecutor, Mr Marlon Makamba said the senior citizen took advantage of the absence of the complainant’s mother to abuse her.

“The complainant is mentally challenged. On April 17, the complainant was left at home, together with her sister while their mother travelled to Harare for the Easter church service.

“Mamvura went to the complainant’s homestead and found her alone. He escorted her to a nearby bush where he rap_ed her. While Mamvura was busy abusing the complainant, her sister arrived at the scene.

“Mamvura left in a huff and left the two sisters at the scene,” said Mr Makamba.

“A police report was made, leading to Mamvura’s arrest,” he said.

No Joy For Sikhala Again

By- The bail ruling for the jailed CCC deputy chair Job Sikhala has again been postponed.

A Harare magistrate on Monday deferred the ruling to Wednesday afternoon.

The Zengeza West legislator filed a fresh bail application on changed circumstances.

Magistrate Tafadzwa Miti said she needed to go through the High Court judgment resulting in the bail order that Sikhala violated.

Sikhala made a ninth bail application saying his co-accused was granted $300 000 and he should be treated equally.

He also argued that investigations into their matter had been completed with a trial date already set, which warranted him bail in changed circumstances.

The State opposed granting of Sikhala’s bail saying he should look at reasons that saw him denied bail on his initial court appearance.

Sikhala is jointly charged with Chitungwiza North Godfrey Karakadzai Sithole (CCC) on incitement to commit public violence.

The charge emanated from the violence that rocked Nyatsime in June this year following the murder of CCC activist Moreblessing Ali by Pius Mukandi, a relative of a local ZANU PF official. | The Herald

Teranga Lions Ready To Roar

Senegal take on Netherlands in Group A of the 2022 World Cup on Monday.

The match will kick off at 4pm GMT in Al Thumama, Qatar, exactly 24 hours after the hosts’ opening match begins against Ecuador on Sunday.

Preview: Senegal vs. Netherlands – prediction, team news, lineups
Senegal have suffered a major blow before the World Cup has even begun, with Bayern Munich forward Sadio Mane ruled out of the tournament due to a fibula injury, which he sustained against Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga earlier this month.

Head coach Aliou Cisse had hoped that the issue would only prevent his star man from playing in the Lions of Teranga’s first match or two, but Cisse will now have to adjust his tactical blueprint to deal with the absence of the former Liverpool man.

Mane, who scored two winning penalties against Egypt to seal Senegal’s first ever Africa Cup of Nations triumph as well as cement their place in Qatar earlier this year, clearly leaves a major hole to fill in attack, with only Ismaila Sarr and Famara Diedhiou in double figures for goals scored (10 apiece) for their national team.

However, Cisse’s side are generally tough to break down, with six clean sheets in their last eight competitive matches proving to be the bedrock of their recent AFCON success and qualification for the World Cup.

The 46-year-old will almost certainly be looking for his players to keep things tight against Netherlands, before going into more winnable fixtures against Qatar and Ecuador as they look to reach the knockout stages for only the second time in their history.

Preview: Senegal vs. Netherlands – prediction, team news, lineups
Netherlands, meanwhile, head into the World Cup in excellent form under Louis van Gaal’s management, having reached the UEFA Nations League finals for the second time in three campaigns.

While the fledgling competition’s credentials are often questioned, all three of Oranje’s Group 4 opponents – Belgium, Poland and Wales – will compete at the forthcoming World Cup, making their points tally of 16 from six matches appear even more impressive than first meets the eye.

Netherlands missed out on qualifying for the 2018 World Cup in Russia, but they did advance to the semi-finals under van Gaal’s tutelage in 2014, ultimately losing to Argentina in a penalty shootout after a goalless draw across 120 minutes.

Widely regarded as the biggest footballing nation never to win the World Cup – having lost three finals in 1974, 1978 and 2010 – there is growing belief that this could be their year despite lacking a sprinkle of star individual quality when compared to their previous near misses.

Starting strong against Senegal on Monday will be important in order to maintain high morale, with van Gaal perhaps emboldened to go for the jugular with the aforementioned absence of Mane on the opposition team sheet.

Preview: Senegal vs. Netherlands – prediction, team news, lineups
Mane has withdrawn from the Senegal squad as a result of his fibula injury, which will require surgery, with the likes of Nicolas Jackson, Iliman Ndiaye, Krepin Diatta and Bamba Dieng all fighting for a spot on the left flank in his absence.

Diatta could win that particular battle due to his natural pace and trickery on the ball, while RB Leipzig’s Abdou Diallo may miss out on his country’s first match at the World Cup with a knee issue.

Netherlands, meanwhile, will be without their own attacking talisman, too, with Memphis Depay ruled out of at least their opening match due to a hamstring injury. The Barcelona forward, who scored 12 goals during World Cup qualifying, has not played for club or country since sustaining against Poland in September.

Denzel Dumfries is also doubtful after being forced off during Inter Milan’s Serie A fixture against Atalanta last week, with Marten de Roon unlikely to be available either having missed that match entirely with a back issue.

As such, Jeremie Frimpong and Vincent Janssen may be handed opportunities from the start, although van Gaal could utilise three central midfielders with Cody Gakpo and Steven Bergwijn forming a front two.

Senegal possible starting lineup:
E. Mendy; Sabaly, Cisse, Koulibaly, Ballo-Toure; Kouyate, N. Mendy, I. Gueye; I. Sarr, Dia, Diatta

Netherlands possible starting lineup:
Pasveer; Timber, Van Dijk, Ake; Frimpong, F. De Jong, Koopmeiners, Blind; Klaassen; Gakpo, Bergwijn.- Sportsmole

Mane Speaks On Injury

Sadio Mane has for the first time commented on his injury which ruled him out of the 2022 FIFA World Cup campaign.

The Bayern Munich forward picked a knee injury during the German giants’ 6-1 demolition of Weder Bremen in Bundesliga over a week ago.

Earlier indications had suggested that the star could return to action during the World Cup but after an MRI scan, it was noted that the injury required surgery.

He had a successful operation on Thursday to attach a tendon to the head of his right fibula. This completely ruled him out of the campaign.

Mane posted on Instagram, giving an update about the operation and rallying behind his teammates ahead of their 2022 FIFA World Cup opener against Netherlands.

“Many of you have sent me messages of support following my injury,” the Bayern man said in the post.

“Thank goodness the mid-week operation went well. I take this opportunity to thank you all and to express my appreciation.

“This Monday, our dear country will play the World Cup, Qatar 2022. I am sure that the Lions will be able to transcend themselves and will approach all the matches like a real final.

“I am also convinced that all Senegalese will be in front of the small screen to support and encourage our valiant national team.

“I am convinced that my teammates will fight as one as they usually do in order to honour our dear Senegal.”

The African champions open their campaign at 6 pm CAT. They play hosts Qatar on Friday and Ecuador on 29 November.

All the games will be live on SuperSport TV, ZBC TV and SABC sport channels.-Soccer 24 Zimbabwe

Simba Bhora Eye Ndiraya

Ambitious Premier Soccer League (PSL) newboys Simba Bhora have stepped up their pursuit of Tonderai Ndiraya, with the hope of convincing him to be their head coach.

The youthful coach’s contact with Dynamos expires on December 31 2022 and the Harare giants have already announced that they will not be renewing it.

Simba Bhora on the other hand, were led to the country’s top-flight by Authur Tutani, but the veteran tactician is not a holder of the the CAF A licence, which is the required qualification in the PSL.

Soccer24 has it on good authority that the Simba Bhora leadership applied for a waiver for Tutani but it was turned down by ZIFA, a development which has fuelled their pursuit of Ndiraya.

“Yes we are still negotiating with him (Ndiraya),” said Simba Bhora ownwer and mining mogul Simba ‘Buju’ Ndoro.

Ndoro also confirmed Tutani will remain part of the Simba Bhora technical team, probably as Technical Director, as the Shamva-based outfit seeks to make a mark in its maiden campaign in the country’s top-flight.

Simba Bhora are also reportedly chasing after the signature of Dynamos defender Frank Makarati.

Makarati’s contract at Dynamos ends on December 31 2022, and the former Ngezi Platinum defender, who was voted among the best players in the PSL for the just-ended season, is still weighing his options.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Teranga Lions Date Netherlands

Just In- Sikhala Bail Hearing Deferred

By A Correspondent- A Harare magistrate on Monday deferred to Wednesday afternoon the ruling in Zengeza West legislator Job Sikhala’s (MDC Alliance) fresh bail application on changed circumstances.

Magistrate Tafadzwa Miti said that she needed to go through the High Court judgment that resulted in the bail order that Sikhala violated.

| The Herald

England Target World Cup Glory

England’s latest quest for major tournament glory begins with their World Cup 2022 opener against Iran in Group B at the Khalifa International Stadium on Monday afternoon.

Meanwhile, their opponents are competing on the biggest global stage for the third time in a row but are facing an uphill battle to finally progress beyond the group stage.

Another attempt to emulate the heroes of 1966 awaits Gareth Southgate’s young, effervescent crop, and should the Three Lions continue the theme of going one better at major tournaments under the 52-year-old, the empty suitcase that Declan Rice brought along to carry home the World Cup trophy will come in handy.

The nation could hardly have been happier when Kieran Trippier scored that memorable free kick against Croatia in the semi-finals four years ago, and even that moment was topped when Luke Shaw struck first against Italy in the Euro 2020 final, but England ended both tournaments without the winners’ medals around their necks.
This time around, optimism is not exactly high, with the 1966 champions entering the World Cup on the back of a winless Nations League campaign which saw them relegated to League B, having also failed to score from open play until their 3-3 draw with Germany on the final matchday.

A slice of unwanted history is also on the line for England here, as the Three Lions could fail to win seven games in a row for only the second time, having set that record all the way back in 1958, which would be a major blot on Southgate’s notebook as speculation over his post-World Cup future hots up.

England have also made a habit of winning one opening match at the World Cup and failing to win the next – prevailing on matchday one in 1998, 2006 and 2018 but coming up short in 2002, 2010 and 2014 – and Iran ought to play without any fear knowing that the pressure is firmly off their shoulders.

The world’s 20th-ranked nation will expect to be battling Wales and the USA for second place in Group B should England ride off into the sunset as expected, but Team Melli are one of a number of nations to have become embroiled in pre-tournament controversy.

The Ukrainian FA requested the expulsion of Iran from the World Cup over allegations of the Asian nation supplying weapons to Russia for the ongoing war in Eastern Europe, but Carlos Queiroz ‘s side are now preparing to compete on the finals stage for the third time in a row.

It will not come as too much of a surprise to learn that Iran have never progressed beyond the group stage of the World Cup in its current format, and they have only ever won two games in the tournament, one of which came against Morocco on the opening matchday at Russia 2018.

England and Iran will be locking horns for the first time on Monday, and Team Melli are aiming to secure their first win over European opposition at the ninth attempt, which would certainly send early shockwaves around Qatar early doors.- Sportsmole

About Oral Health

School Head Jailed For Leaking Exam Paper

A DEPUTY headmaster and an English teacher at Sipepa High School in Tsholotsho district, Matabeleland North were each sentenced to three years in prison for leaking a Zimbabwe Schools Examination Council (Zimsec) O-level English (paper 1) to candidates at the school.

Brian Mazendami (41) of 20596 Pumula South, Bulawayo, who is the deputy headmaster and the teacher, Makosini Mondela (50) of Sipepa Line in Tsholotsho were convicted on their own pleas of guilty to criminal abuse of duty as a public officer and contravening Section 35(a) and (b) of the Zimsec Act by Tsholotsho resident magistrate Mr Victor Mpofu.

The two, were, however, spared the agony of jail life after the magistrate conditionally suspended 18 months of the sentence on the condition that they do not within that period commit a similar offence.

The remaining 18 months were further suspended on the condition that Mazendami and Mondela each perform 630 hours of community service starting today.

Mondela will perform community service at Jakalasi Primary School in Tsholotsho while Mazendami will be at Godlwayo Primary School in Pumula

Prosecuting, Ms Sharon Phiri said on October 14, 2022, at around 4PM, Mazendami and Mondela connived and opened the strong room, where the examination papers were kept.

They took out a sealed envelope containing English Language paper 1 (4005/01) November 2022 examination and copied two questions from the sealed envelope before they returned it to the strong room.

“Mazendami then taught his selected students how to write compositions based on those topics. He then corrected them after submitting their compositions,” said Ms Phiri.

The court heard that a whistle-blower sent an anonymous letter to Zimsec and a taskforce team was set up to conduct investigations at Sipepa High School leading to the arrest of the two teachers.

Meanwhile, in another case, a George Silundika High School teacher, Joseph Moyo (36) appeared before Tsholotsho magistrate Mr Regius Mawarire for leaking a Mathematics examinations paper. He was released on free bail to December 15.

As part of the bail conditions, he was barred from visiting the school until the finalisation of investigations by the police.

He was also ordered to continue residing at his given address in Cowdray Park and reports at ZRP Cowdray Park once a fortnight.

Circumstances are that Moyo, a Chemistry teacher, was allegedly sent Zimsec O-level Mathematics paper two by one Farai Sibanda, who is still at large, via Bluetooth.

“On the 19 October, a day before the Mathematics paper 2 examination was written, Moyo conducted extra lessons for his Form Four learners at his laboratory during which he started revising the leaked paper,” said the prosecutor, Ms Valentine Makoni.

Moyo was represented by Mr Thabekhulu Dube of Ncube and Partners.

Last week, a headmaster at Thokozani Secondary School in Insiza district, Matabeleland South Gainmore Muzezewa and his deputy, Howard Zvipore appeared before Filabusi magistrate Ms Belinda Nunu facing charges of criminal abuse of office and violating Section 35 of the Zimsec Act.

Gainmore Muzezewa allegedly wrote a Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (Zimsec) Ordinary Level English examination (Paper 1 and 2) for a candidate.

His deputy, Howard Zvipore, who was in charge of the examination process in his capacity as a cluster manager, was allegedly aware of the incident.

They were remanded in custody to tomorrow pending the outcome of their bail application.

Dr Stop It Blasts Zhuwao

Will Lions Of Teranga Devour Netherlands ?

Senegal take on Netherlands in Group A of the 2022 World Cup on Monday.

“My New Car Is Not A Donation”: Madam Boss Clears Air

By A Correspondent- Socialite and comedienne, Tarisai “Madam Boss” Chikocho, says she BOUGHT her new car.

Some reports have claimed she received a donation because of her high profile.

Madam Boss was involved in an accident on her way to Kadoma for a show headlined by South African diva, Makhadzi.

She told H-Metro on Thursday that she has found a new luxurious Ford Ranger.

“Do you think an insurance company can replace a damaged vehicle within a short period of time?

“I bought it myself and no one donated it to me,” said Madam Boss.

She expressed disappointment at the negligence shown by employees of a company, which failed to fix wheel nuts, resulting in her accident.

“Vehicle Inspection Department, evaluators and police have concluded that the wheel nuts were not properly fixed, and that’s what led to the accident.

“It is disturbing me daily, but as for my body all is now well and I am enjoying my new kid.

She is performing well on the road.”

Asked how she had been managing her errands without a vehicle, she said: “My husband (Ngoni Munetsiwa) was helping me with business errands.

“He would take me from place to place where I had appointments.

“By the way, I sold my other car to fund my projects.”

Chemistry Teacher Hauled To Court Over Leaked Exam

By A Correspondent- A chemistry teacher at George Silundika High School, Joseph Moyo (36), recently appeared before Tsholotsho magistrate Regius Mawarire for leaking a Mathematics examinations paper.

Moyo was released on free bail and remanded to 15 December. He was ordered to continue residing at his given address in Cowdray Park, report at ZRP Cowdray Park once a fortnight, and stop visiting the school until the finalisation of investigations by the police.

Prosecutor, Valentine Makoni, told the court that Moyo was allegedly sent the Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) Ordinary Level Mathematics Paper 2 by one Farai Sibanda, who is still at large, via Bluetooth. Said Makoni:

On 19 October, a day before the Mathematics paper 2 examination was written, Moyo conducted extra lessons for his Form Four learners at his laboratory during which he started revising the leaked paper.

Moyo was represented by Thabekhulu Dube of Ncube and Partners.

Over twenty parliamentarians, especially drawn from the Portfolio Committee on Health and Childcare, have joined hands and united against drugs abuse in Zimbabwe

A strategy workshop is being held this morning at the Harare Holiday Inn hotel for the concerned parliamentarians

A key outcome of the workshop is the adoption of strategies and policies that promote a harm reduction based approach against drugs and substance abuse

Added to that, there will be an emphasis on a medical response instead of a mere criminalised one against drugs and substance abusers

The workshop is being hosted by the Zimbabwe Civil Liberties and Drugs Network (ZCLDN) and the Parliamentarians Network for Global Health (UNITE)

Parents Charged US$2 For End Of Term Tests

By A Correspondent- The Roman Catholic Church was forced to intervene and stop teachers at St Joseph Primary School from demanding US$2.00 from every pupil so that they will be allowed to sit for end-of-year tests.

Parents alleged that the Roman Catholic Church-run school, which has a reported enrolment of over 1 000 learners, asked parents and guardians to pay the money so that their children would be allowed to write end-of-term examinations.

The pupils were also made to pay ZWL$300 for Visual & Performing Arts (VPA) and Physical Education (PE).

However, following an uproar by parents, Father Christopher Wusiku, who is the Local Responsible Authority for the school, directed that the learners should be given back their money, that is, the US$2 and the ZWL$300.

When contacted for comment, Father Wusiku refused to confirm or deny the reports but insisted that the parents are aware of the school’s position on the matter.

A source told Pindula News that it was never the school’s policy to request pupils to make payments towards their end-of-term tests but was an arrangement made by some teachers and their pupils.

St Joseph Primary School is situated at Mutora Growth Point In Gokwe North and is one of the largest and most prestigious schools in the district.

Sanyati Couple Nabbed For Drowning 9month Old Infant

By A Correspondent- Police have arrested a Sanyati couple for brutally murdering a nine-month-old infant from the wife’s previous relationship by drowning her in a bucket of water and burying her remains in a shallow grave.

Pelagia Jakaza, 19, the mother of the baby, plotted with her husband Bonface Mberegwa, 23, to exterminate the child born from Jakaza’s previous relationship.

In a weekend statement, police said the couple committed the heinous act on November 9 this year.

On 19/11/22, ZRP Sanyati acted on a tip-off and arrested Pelagia Jakaza (19) and her husband, Bonface Mberengwa (23), for a case of murder in which they allegedly conspired to kill Pelagia Jakaza’s nine-month-old child sired from a previous relationship by drowning the victim in a bucket of water, on 09/11/22

They two buried the remains in a shallow grave on an anthill at Mapfuti Village, Sanyati. Police recovered the bucket used in drowning the victim and exhumed the body. #notocrime,” police said.

The criminal came to light at a time Zimbabwe joins the rest of the world in commemorating World Children’s Day, which is observed annually on November 20.

The World Children’s Day campaign aims to increase international cooperation and awareness among children, as well as to improve their well-being.

Cases of child abuse are now common in the country, with two minors, aged nine and eight, from Tsholotsho and Bindura, respectively, recently raped ad impregnated.

Civil societies and child rights groups have urged the government to roll out a national programme that advocates for children’s rights, security and protection.

It’s Foolish Participating in Rigged Elections to Give Zanu Legitimacy,” Said Biti in 2015 | GURAMATUNHU

By Patrick Guramatunhu | “Look, you can’t keep on participating in flawed electoral processes that serve to give big benefits to dictators such as Robert Mugabe. Mugabe has perfected the art of winning elections. So it will be very foolish for the opposition to continue legitimizing these sham elections which don’t deliver. This country will go through a serious economic crisis in 2020 caused by Zanu PF. And yet, this is the only country where a government doesn’t perform, it is encouraged by a super majority in parliament,” said Tendai Biti in a 2015 interview with Isaac Mugabi.

“So you can’t continue subjecting Zimbabweans to processes where their hopes just get crushed.”
There are four key points in Biti’s admission:

1) The elections are not just flawed and illegal they are so flawed the opposition cannot win.

2) Zanu PF is guaranteed of a super majority which the regime then uses to do as it pleases.

3) By participating in the flawed elections, the opposition is giving Zanu PF legitimacy.

4) Tendai Biti is well aware of the consequences of the participating in these flawed elections is crushing the hopes for meaningful political and economic change in the country. The consequences of giving Zanu PF legitimacy is perpetuating the corrupt and tyrannical Zanu PF dictatorship.
The reader will be interested to know that Tendai Biti’s condemnation of the opposition’s position of participating in the flawed 2013 elections was not a lightning bolt out of the clear blue sky.

MDC-T 2014 party congress had come out with a resolution they party would not participate in any future elections and by elections until democratic reforms to stop Zanu PF rigging the elections were implemented.

“No reforms! No elections!” was the new MDC-T party slogan.
By the end of 2015 MDC-T had ditched the resolution to stop participating in elections until democratic reforms were implemented. The party was openly admitting it would participate in the upcoming 2018 elections.

Tendai Biti, who had broken away to form his own party, reconciled to his former MDC-T friends to form the MDC Alliance which went on to participate in the 2018 elections – forgetting Biti’s June 2015 denouncing participation as foolish and MDC-T party resolution.
There was no follow-up interview with Biti, asking him why he and his MDC friends have continued participating in flawed elections post 2015, knowing fully well doing so only gave vote rigging Zanu PF legitimacy, perpetuated the dictatorship and thus the suffering of the people! Of course, Biti and his opposition colleagues were asked the question but have been very careful to avoid answering it or else offered so feeble excuse for participating.

The only MDC leader who has given an explanation why MDC has consistently participate in flawed elections was David Coltart.

“The worst aspect for me about the failure to agree a coalition was that both MDCs couldn’t now do the obvious – withdraw from the (2013) elections,” confessed Coltart in his Book, , The Struggle Continues 50 years of Tyranny in Zimbabwe..

“The electoral process was so flawed, so illegal, that the only logical step was to withdraw, which would compel SADC to hold Zanu PF to account. But such was the distrust between the MDC-T and MDC-N that neither could withdraw for fear that the other would remain in the elections, winning seats and giving the process credibility.”
MDC leaders realised the sheer stupidity of participating in the flawed elections but reason was trumped by greed. They each had their eyes set on winning the few gravy train seats they knew Zanu PF was giving away to entice the opposition to participate.

Indeed, SADC leaders had advised the two MDC factions not to participate in the 2013 elections without first implementing the reforms. The good advice fell on deaf ear because of greed.
As noted above, four of the main MDC factions came together to form the MDC Alliance (MDC A) before the 2018 elections, the united party did not stop them participating in that year’s elections.

CCC is basically MDC A rebranded, it still constitutes the main opposition winning 43% of the vote according to ZEC 2018 result and the remaining 40 plus opposition parties winning 4% of the vote. So, for CCC boycotting the 2023 elections would make a lot of sense, to follow Coltart’s argument: more so now given the 42 years of rigged elections. And yet Chamisa and co are hell bent on participating in these flawed elections for the same reasons as before – greed and breath-taking incompetence!
The Tendai Biti interview is available on DW, together with David Coltart’s Book; they provide the documentary proof Zimbabwe’s opposition leaders have KNOWN all along that Zanu PF is rigging these flawed elections and that their participation was giving the regime legitimacy and thus perpetuating the dictatorship. They have continued participated regardless out of greed, Zanu PF has given away a few gravy train seats, their reward for selling out on reforms and free elections! – SOURCE: zimbabwelight.blogspot.com

No Reforms No Polls- President Chamisa

Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa has hinted that his party will consider boycotting the 2023 elections if its concerns over the voters’ roll are not addressed.

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) has been in the eye of a storm after data experts exposed a number of irregularities in the voters’ roll.

Some of the anomalies unearthed by data analysts Team Pachedu include the movement of registered voters from their wards and constituencies without their consent.

They exposed cases where people using the same address were being registered under different wards.

In some areas, there are registered voters who used addresses of central business district offices, which have not been in use for some time, among other anomalies.

The opposition CCC has called for an independent audit of the voters’ roll, but Zec has turned down the demands.

Chamisa told The Standard in an interview that if Zec failed to provide a credible voters’ roll, the party would be left with no option, but to withdraw from the polls.

“We have been there (during the by elections) to test the environment and also to test Zec’s sincerity, but that test has left questions,” he said.

“If there is no credible voters’ roll, we are telling citizens that it’s something that will be a deal breaker. We will not allow an election that has no credible voters’ roll in this country.

“There can’t be a credible election without the access to an electronic voters’ roll, a credible one that is audited.

“The voter’s roll must be audited by all parties.”

Zec itself said it had picked up over 180 000 errors on the voters roll as of June 23.

Independent election watchdogs said the figure was too huge, and could have a strong bearing on the outcome of next year’s elections.

“We have written several times to Zec, and we have written a document, a very detailed document indicating where we have qualms with their conduct and attitude, but they have not been able to respond to that document,” Chamisa added.

“We have also written to them about the voters’ roll, but they have not been able to respond.

“They have to pass the integrity, professionalism, and accountability test.

“More importantly they have to pass the independence test.”

Zec has, however, said it would set “reasonable conditions” on availing the voters’ roll on a platform only accessible to those approved by the commission to protect it against possible tampering.

The hard copy was pegged at US$187 000, a fee, which again political parties said was too high.

Zec chief elections officer Utloile Silaigwana urged political parties that have any issues about violations of electoral laws to report to the police.

“During elections, the Commission also establishes multi-party liaison committees in terms of sections 160B, C and D of the Electoral Act to resolve electoral disputes and allied malpractices in an amicable way,” he said.

“Aggrieved parties who observe violations of the code and feel that they are beyond the jurisdiction of multi-party liaison committees are advised to report such issues to the police, since such violations are deemed criminal offences.”

Zimbabwe has a history of disputed elections, with the voters’ roll being at the centre of the disputes.

Elections watchdogs and other opposition parties said elections without a credible voters’ roll were meaningless.

MDC-T national chairperson Morgen Komichi said a credible voters’ roll determines a free and fair election.

“That’s part of the electoral reforms that we are demanding. We do not want a disputed election,” Komichi said.

“There will be no legitimacy and the country will remain isolated internationally.”

Political analyst Vivid Gwede said serious pressure, both local and diplomatic, must be exerted on Zec and government on the need for a credible voters’ roll.

“The public needs to know that eligible voters, and only eligible entries, are on the voters’ roll,” Gwede said.

“The roll is also important for other crucial processes such as the delimitation of constituencies.

“Thus, the call for radical transparency with the voters’ roll is on point.”

Zanu PF secretary for administration Orbet Mpofu said Zec has the responsibility to ensure stakeholders have access to a credible voters’ roll.

“Zanu PF has never interfered with the process,” said Mpofu.

“As Zanu PF, we can’t comment on the voters’ roll because we are aware Zec is still working on it and has not yet released the document.”— Standard

Mnangagwa Ruins World Cup Excitement

Tinashe Sambiri| Troubled Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority ( ZESA) has spoiled the 2022 World Cup euphoria due to incessant power cuts.

The inconsistent and erratic power supply has all but ruined the World Cup excitement.

Angry soccer fanatics say ZESA’s dull incompetence is a result of rampant corruption and theft of State cash by Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration.

“Everything is in disarray, we want to watch world cup matches in the comfort of our homes, thanks to the blundering regime, that’s not possible now,” fumed one soccer fanatic.

“This government is useless, that’s what I can say,” one Jones of Masvingo city said.

Tysoe Says ED Was Always Bob’s Successor

SELF-EXILED former minister Saviour Kasukuwere has accused the ruling Zanu PF party of failing to abide by its constitution in elevating President Emmerson Mnangagwa as its leader following the ousting of the late former leader Robert Mugabe.
Speaking at a discussion on the fifth anniversary of Mugabe’s ouster held under the topic, Back to the Future: A Review of the Post-November 2017 Coup in Zimbabwe which was hosted by Sapes Trust last Thursday, Kasukuwere accused Mnangagwa of inheriting Mugabe’s traits of consolidating power around himself.

He also claimed that Mnangagwa was Mugabe’s preferred successor but was pressured by power-hungry allies to stage a coup in November 2017.

“Those colleagues were looking at the watch and wanted to taste power. Their ages were advancing and some were turning 79, others 80. If we had discussed this at the party we would not have been where we are now,” Kasukuwere said.

“The appointment of Mnangagwa as then Vice-President was an indication that Mugabe wanted him to come in. This was a discussion he had with us to say: ‘Let Mnangagwa come in and we can move forward.’ But Zanu PF being Zanu PF there was a secretive way of doing things which created problems for us up to this day.”

Mugabe, who had ruled Zimbabwe since 1980 and overseen its descent into economic ruin, watched as a bitter rivalry developed between his wife Grace and Mnangagwa which precipitated his ousting by military chiefs.

Grace had hoped to take over as president and had the backing of a Zanu PF faction known as G40 while the army was backing Mnangagwa.

Kasukuwere said Mnangagwa had succumbed to pressure from power-hungry allies, adding that Mugabe had sensed his growing “disloyalty,” and fired him as vice-president and purged him from the party on November 6, 2017.

The dismissal enraged Mnangagwa, who had served the liberation movement since his youth and for which he was nearly executed after he was caught bombing a train as a young militant.

“When Mugabe developed doubts about Mnangagwa’s loyalty, that is when Mnangagwa failed to control his faction members. That led to the unconstitutional events of removal of President Mugabe,” Kasukuwere told NewsDay yesterday.

At the discussion, he said: “We should have stuck to the constitutional process to challenge the President. The big problem in Zanu PF now is that nobody can stand up and say ‘I want to be a Zanu PF president.’ You can say that in exile, not in Zimbabwe. We should have stuck to the constitutional process to challenge the President.”

Mugabe was regarded as one of the great survivors of international politics, but Kasukuwere admits that he overstayed while insisting that deep-rooted factionalism in the party forced the aging leader to defer his plan to step down early.

“After the 2002 elections and thereafter, Mugabe intended to step down, but factors took place that meant he remained in office until 2008 when we had that humiliation with the MDC and he stayed up to 2013 when he won. We thought after winning the election in 2013 he would put in place processes for a much more stable succession programme.

“In 2017, he told me as his political commissar that he was stepping down. We were in Mexico attending a conference and we talked for about seven hours. Still, it was too late because of the dynamics of the politics at that time,” Kasukuwere said.

Kasukuwere is conspicuously absent as two of his G40 colleagues, Jonathan Moyo and Patrick Zhuwao try to manouvre their way back into the ruling party.

Last week, the two former ministers made a public apology for being involved in the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) party politics.

Speaking at the same dialogue, CCC vice-president Tendai Biti said there was need for Zimbabweans to converge for a democratic breakthrough from “Zanu PF capture.”

“I want to agree with those who say we need a new consensus, we need a new social contract, we need new levers of interaction and intervention. (Zimbabwe is) a broken society,” Biti said.

“It’s a broken country. We have been mutilated. We have been vandalised by autocracy, by a political system, by a political party built on the culture of entitlement, built on the culture of impunity, built on the messianic complex, no one can rule except Zanu PF.” -Newsday

Fresh Trouble For Buyanga

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has applied to the High Court challenging the cancellation of a warrant of arrest for controversial businessperson Frank Sadiq Buyanga by Harare provincial magistrate, Judith Taruvinga.
Prosecutor-General Nelson Mutsonziwa cited Taruvinga and Buyanga as the first and second respondents, respectively.

Buyanga was arrested in South Africa on November 10, 2022, on charges of child trafficking, immigration violations, forgery and contempt of court.

Mutsonziwa wants the High Court to set aside Taruvinga’s judgment, arguing that the warrant was cancelled without following due process.

“The court presided over a matter in which it lacked jurisdiction to cancel a warrant of arrest after it had been executed by law enforcement authorities of the Republic of South Africa under an extradition request made to it by the Republic of Zimbabwe,” Mutsonziwa said.

“There was a gross irregularity in the proceedings or the decision of the court in that the court perpetuated contempt of court by the second respondent by granting his legal practitioner audience in circumstances where the High Court, Supreme Court and Constitutional Court of Zimbabwe, respectively found him to have dirty hands and consequently denied him an audience.”

Magistrate Taruvinga rescinded her judgment last Monday because a low-ranking police officer, Sergeant Lilybirth Ndlovu, erroneously applied for the warrant of arrest.

Buyanga’s lawyer Admire Rubaya told the court that the Criminal Procedure and Evidence Act requires that a police officer applying for an arrest warrant be at least at the rank of inspector or an assistant inspector in charge of a police station.

But police claimed some “discrepancies” on how the matter was handled. Court papers show that Detective Inspector Naison Chirape applied for the warrant of arrest.

When the matter was heard, Chirape’s affidavit was not considered, police said.

There are two other warrants of arrest against Buyanga — one issued by High Court judge Justice David Mangota and the other by Justice Jacob Manzunzu.

Buyanga’s arrests emanated from a protracted child custody wrangle with his ex-girlfriend Chantelle Muteswa. The matter will be heard today at the High Court before Justice Pisirayi Kwenda. -Newsday

Benzema Injury Worries France

France striker Karim Benzema has suffered an injury scare just hours before the start of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Benzema, who had just recovered from a thigh injury, was pulled out of his first full training session with Les Bleus on Saturday night after aggravating it.

According to French outlet RMC Sport, there’s now a great concern among the France technical about the 2022 Ballon d’Or winner’s participation in the World Cup.

In their training session update, the publication said: “While he (Benzema) seemed rather comfortable during the first fifteen minutes of the session, the intensity then increased, which his body obviously did not appreciate.

“He touched his thigh and kept away from the field for several moments, Benzema could have relapsed, to the point that the staff is very worried for the whole of the competition.”

Should the worst happen, coach Didier Deschamps has until Sunday to name a replacement for the striker.

This would be his second change in the last three days after Christopher Nkunku picked an injury that ended his World Cup campaign.

Other high-profile absentees for the defending champions include midfielders Paul Pogba and N’Golo Kante and defender Prisnel Kimpembe.

France will begin their campaign on November 22 against Australia. They will face Denmark and African representatives Tunisia in other Group D matches.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

WHO highlights high cost of physical inactivity in first-ever global report
19 October 2022 News release Geneva Reading time: 3 min (815 words)
Almost 500 million people will develop heart disease, obesity, diabetes or other noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) attributable to physical inactivity, between 2020 and 2030, costing US$ 27 billion annually, if governments don’t take urgent action to encourage more physical activity among their populations.

The Global status report on physical activity 2022, published today by the World Health Organization, measures the extent to which governments are implementing recommendations to increase physical activity across all ages and abilities.

Data from 194 countries show that overall, progress is slow and that countries need to accelerate the development and implementation of policies to increase levels of physical activity and thereby prevent disease and reduce burden on already overwhelmed health care systems.

Less than 50% of countries have a national physical activity policy, of which less than 40% are operational
Only 30% of countries have national physical activity guidelines for all age groups
While nearly all countries report a system for monitoring physical activity in adults, 75% of countries monitor physical activity among adolescents, and less than 30% monitor physical activity in children under 5 years
In policy areas that could encourage active and sustainable transport, only just over 40% of countries have road design standards that make walking and cycling safer.
“We need more countries to scale up implementation of policies to support people to be more active through walking, cycling, sport, and other physical activity. The benefits are huge, not only for the physical and mental health of individuals, but also for societies, environments, and economies…” said Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General, “We hope countries and partners will use this report to build more active, healthier, and fairer societies for all.”

The economic burden of physical inactivity is significant and the cost of treating new cases of preventable non-communicable diseases (NCDs) will reach nearly US$ 300 billion by 2030, around US$ 27 billion annually.

Whilst national policies to tackle NCDs and physical inactivity have increased in recent years, currently 28% of policies are reported to be not funded or implemented. Considered a “best buy” for motivating populations to combat NCDs, the report showed that only just over 50% of countries ran a national communications campaign, or organised mass participation physical activity events in the last two years. The COVID-19 pandemic has not only stalled these initiatives, but it also affected other policy implementation which has widened inequities in access to and, opportunities for, engaging in physical activity for many communities.

To help countries increase physical activity, WHO’s Global action plan on physical activity 2018-2030 (GAPPA) sets out 20 policy recommendations – including policies to create safer roads to encourage more active transport, provide more programmes and opportunities for physical activity in key settings, such as childcare, schools, primary health care and the workplace. Today’s Global Status report assesses country progress against those recommendations, and shows that much more needs to be done. One critical finding in the Global status report on physical activity is the existence of significant gaps in global data to track progress on important policy actions – such as provision of public open space, provision of walking and cycling infrastructure, provision of sport and physical education in schools. The report also calls for weaknesses in some existing data to also be addressed.

“We are missing globally approved indicators to measure access to parks, cycle lanes, foot paths – even though we know that data do exist in some countries. Consequently, we cannot report or track the global provision of infrastructure that will facilitate increases in physical activity, “said Fiona Bull, Head of WHO Physical Activity Unit. “It can be a vicious circle, no indicator and no data leads to no tracking and no accountability, and then too often, to no policy and no investment. What gets measured gets done, and we have some way to go to comprehensively and robustly track national actions on physical activity.”

The report calls for countries to prioritize physical activity as key to improving health and tackling NCDs, integrate physical activity into all relevant policies, and develop tools, guidance and training to improve implementation.

“It is good for public health and makes economic sense to promote more physical activity for everyone,” said Dr Ruediger Krech, Director Department of Health Promotion, WHO. “We need to facilitate inclusive programmes for physical activity for all and ensure people have easier access to them. This report issues a clear call to all countries for stronger and accelerated action by all relevant stakeholders working better together to achieve the global target of a 15% reduction in the prevalence of physical inactivity by 2030.”

Data for the report are drawn from the WHO Noncommunicable Disease Country Capacity Survey (2019 and 2022) and the WHO Global status report on road safety (2018).
