Moreblessing Ali Family Statement | BREAKING NEWS

We condemn the arrest of our representative and Spokeperson, Hon Job Sikhala and one of the local leaders who was instrumental in the CCC search mission, Hon Godfrey Sithole. To be clear, it was our position as a family that we would not bury Moreblessing until her murderers are arrested. Hon Sikhala was the appointed watching brief over any potential investigation, arrest and prosecution. It is a matter of regret that Hon Sikhala has been arrested in the course and scope of his legal duties. This is an extension of the political persecution of Moreblessing. They murdered her violently. Even in death, they won’t let her find peace.

We will not be silenced. We continue to demand justice.

Mosimane Yet To Reveal Next Move

Pisto Mosimane’s management has addressed rumours linking the South African coach with a move to Qatar.

Mosimane is currently without a club after leaving Egyptians giants Al Ahly earlier in the week.

Following his departure from the Cairo-based team, reports quickly suggested the coach signed a contract with an unnamed club in the Qatari Stars League.

Pitso’s handlers, MT Sports Marketing and Management, has rubbished the rumours, but admitted receiving offers for the 57-year-old.

“It has been brought to our attention that there are rumours around coach Pitso Mosimane being in Qatar insinuating that he has signed a deal with a new team,” a statement read.

“Coach Pitso and his technical team have not signed with a new team. The coaches will be heading back to South Africa in due course.

“Since parting ways with the former club, we have received a number of enquires from various teams internationally and locally, including national teams.

“We have not committed the coaches to any teams as yet. Should there be any new developments regarding this matter, MT Sports Marketing and Management will make an official announcement.”- Soccer 24 Zimbabwe

Woman( 94) Dies In House Fire

A 94-year-old woman from the Mtshazo area in Gwanda died in a house fire on Sunday.

It is reported that she was staying alone.

A loud bang from burning asbestos sheets and a cloud of smoke at Gogo Nanzeni Mlandu’s house in Mtsahazo village drew the attention of women who were on their way to fetch water Sunday morning.

The women could however not save the 94-year-old granny as they arrived at her homestead after she had been burnt beyond recognition. Said a local village worker:

It is so disheartening, she was living here all alone and she was old. We never expected something like this to happen to her. To die in this manner is sad. We don’t know what happened. I am a village health worker, I was the one who was coming to check on gogo now and then and to be called in to be told that she has been burnt beyond recognition is heart-rending.

We don’t know what happened and we are still to come to terms with what happened. We wish we knew what happened. We are looking for answers.

Matabeleland South Police Spokesperson, Inspector Loveness Mangena confirmed the incident, saying investigations to establish the cause of the fire were still underway.- Pindula News

Inflation Hits Delta

National Breweries (Natbrew), a unit of Delta Corporation, recorded a 16 per cent decline in its volumes in the year to March 2022, leading to an 18 per cent revenue contraction.

Natbrew produces, packages and markets traditional sorghum beer products in Zambia. Popular variants of its opaque beer are Chibuku Shake-Shake and Chibuku Super. The company said in a statement accompanying the results:

Volume performance in the current year was affected by the decline of informal exports of Chibuku Super, the increase in excise and general product prices and Covid-19 restrictions which affected product availability in the market.

Natbrew said it will continue to intensify efforts to drive volume growth by offering quality and competitively priced products to its consumers.

In the period under review, the company’s revenue declined from US$16.76 million in 2020 to US$13.55 million in 2021.

The decline was attributed to the increased raw material prices in the second half of the year, limited access to the market as a result of COVID-19-induced lockdowns and the resurgence of competition from other bulk beer offerings that do not comply with excise/VAT.

The company ended the year with an operational loss of US$5 million, compared to US$9.8 million the previous year. Similarly, the company reported a loss after tax of US$7 million and a loss per share of US$0.11, compared to US$11.29 million and US$0.11 the previous year.- State media

About Blood Transfusion

World Blood Donor Day takes place on 14 June each year. The Day was created to:

raise global awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products for transfusion;
highlight the critical contribution voluntary, unpaid blood donors make to national health systems;
support national blood transfusion services, blood donor organizations and other nongovernmental organizations in strengthening and expanding their voluntary blood donor programmes by reinforcing national and local campaigns.
The day also provides an opportunity to call to action governments and national health authorities to provide adequate resources to increase the collection of blood from voluntary, unpaid blood donors and to manage access to blood and the transfusion of those who require it.

Blood and blood products are essential resources for effective management of women suffering from bleeding associated with pregnancy and childbirth; children suffering from severe anaemia due to malaria and malnutrition; patients with blood and bone marrow disorders, inherited disorders of haemoglobin and immune deficiency conditions; victims of trauma, emergencies, disasters and accidents; as well as patients undergoing advanced medical and surgical procedures. The need for blood is universal, but access to blood for all those who need it is not. Blood shortages are particularly acute in low- and middle-income countries.

To ensure that everyone who needs transfusion has access to safe blood, all countries need voluntary, unpaid blood donors who give blood regularly. An effective blood donor programme, characterized by wide and active participation of the population, is crucial in meeting the need of blood transfusion during peace time as well as during emergencies or disasters, when there is a surge in demand for blood or when the normal operation of blood services is affected.

While an enabling social and cultural atmosphere with strong solidarity facilitates development of an effective blood donor programme, it is also widely acknowledged that the act of blood donation contributes to generating social ties and building a united community.

Focus of this year’s campaign
For 2022, the World Blood Donor Day slogan is “Donating blood is an act of solidarity. Join the effort and save lives” to draw attention to the roles that voluntary blood donations play in saving lives and enhancing solidarity within communities.

The specific objectives of this year’s campaign are to:

thank blood donors in the world and create wider public awareness of the need for regular, unpaid blood donation;
highlight the need for committed, year-round blood donation, to maintain adequate supplies and achieve universal and timely access to safe blood transfusion;
recognize and promote the values of voluntary unpaid blood donation in enhancing community solidarity and social cohesion;
raise awareness of the need for increased investment from governments to build a sustainable and resilient national blood system and increase collection from voluntary non-remunerated blood donors.

A particular activity that countries in the world are encouraged to implement for this year’s campaign is to disseminate to various media outlets stories of people whose lives have been saved through blood donation as a way of motivating regular blood donors to continue giving blood, and to motivate people in good health who have never given blood to begin doing so.

Other activities that would help promote the slogan of this year’s World Blood Donor Day may include donor appreciation ceremonies, social networking campaigns, special media broadcasts, social media posts featuring individual blood donors with the slogan, meetings and workshops, musical and artistic events to thank blood donors and celebrate solidarity, and colouring iconic monuments red.

Your involvement and support will help to ensure greater impact for World Blood Donor Day 2022, increasing recognition worldwide that giving blood is a life-saving act of solidarity and that services providing safe blood and blood products are an essential element of every health care system. Participation of interested partners is welcome at all levels to make World Blood Donor Day 2022 a global success.

Zim Journalist Convicted

A Zimbabwean journalist who corresponds for The New York Times, Jeffrey Moyo has been convicted to 24 months in prison after being found guilty of contravening Section 36 of the Immigration Act by producing fake media accreditation cards for two foreign New York Times journalists, Christina Goldbaum and Joao Silva.

Moyo’s sentence was wholly suspended on condition that he pays ZWL$200 000 fine.

At a hearing in the city of Bulawayo, Magistrate Mark Nzira said that “from the evidence before the court, it is clear that the accused may have connived” to make fake press cards for the two Times journalists.

Analysts called the case part of a wider assault on press freedoms in Zimbabwe, where the economy has crumbled as promised political reforms have failed to materialize under President Emmerson Mnangagwa, after the high hopes that came with the ouster in 2017 of his predecessor, Robert Mugabe.

Reporters have been arrested and hauled before the courts on spurious charges in cases that can drag on for months or years. Some say they have been assaulted by police officers. Freedom House, a nonprofit based in Washington that measures the strength of political and civic rights around the world, downgraded Zimbabwe from “partly free” to “not free” in recent years

The legal difficulties for Mr. Moyo, 37, who has worked for The Times and a number of other news organizations, started in May 2021 when he helped two Times journalists, Christina Goldbaum and João Silva, to enter Zimbabwe on a reporting visit.

Headmaster Has Looted School Fees

Dear Sirs.

In a clear case of misappropriation, mismanagement and funds abuse, Murowa Primary School headmaster and the school development committee use school fees to buy themselves groceries including bread and soft drinks. Each time a member of the SDC visits the school s/he is rewarded with a grocery voucher paid from the school fees. Due to this lucrative benefit, the SDC members are now literally camped at the school premises and non productive meetings are being held weekly to make sure that they sanitize the looting of school fees.

This move has angered the parents/guardians as their children are being chased away from school for non payment of fees which is unconstitutional and against the pronouncements made by His Excellence President E. D Mnangagwa. The headmaster and the SDC members have the guts to tell the parents that they don’t care about what the constitution and The President say thereby disregarding the constitution and undermining His Excellence The President. Surely, a situation whereby a headmaster and a handful people consider a national constitution as a mere toilet paper and reduce a duly elected President to a mere citizen is barbaric and reminiscent of talibanism.

It is common knowledge that Murowa School ranks as one of the lowest in terms of academic pass rate in the Midlands province. The reasons are very obvious to the parents and these reasons have been raised on several occasions with Distinct Education Office in Zvishavane but with no remedial action. There is no teaching taking place at Murowa school. Most of the teachers spend their time sun basking, talking, politics or even absent doing their personal errands. There is no supervision as the headmaster a well known boozer spend most of his time at the local shops. Everyday of the week most senior teachers are on strike complaining of poor remuneration. Its a fact that teachers like most workers in Zimbabwe are poorly remunerated but they must face their employer instead of punishing the innocent pupils. Sadly in this regard these teachers accuse the parents of voting “wrongly” hence their strike takes a political dimension. The parents are really tired of these teachers who have overstayed their welcome and therefore pray for their immediate redeployment.

Most pupils, about 75% are on BEAM simply because Murowa Ward is one of the poorest places in Zimbabwe and poverty stinks from household to household. The poverty has been worsened by the recent crop failure and parents are failing to make ends meet. Surprisingly pupils under BEAM whose fees is paid by end of year are not being sent home while those whose parents pay every term are being sent home. There is need to treat these pupils fairly. Also there is need for a mechanism that ensures pupils who are fully paid get quality education irrespective of the teachers being on strike. The moment parents pay fees a contract would have been signed to the effect that pupils will receive quality education from the teachers. So anything to the contrary is breach of contract and any aggrieved part must seek recourse.

Our last plea is for the Presidency to intervene and save our children who are the future leaders bearing in mind that education is a basic right.

Disappointed Parents

Murowa Community Zvishavane.

We Should Champion The Values Alex Magaisa Stood For: Dignity For All

By Fadzai Mahere| On Sunday, June 5, 2022, Zimbabwe received the tragic news of the untimely passing of academic, lawyer and champion of democracy – Dr Alex Tawanda Magaisa.

Magaisa was a patriot who contributed to the betterment of Zimbabwe in a number of spheres. He was born on December 9, 1975. He read law at the University of Zimbabwe and at the University of Warwick. He participated in Zimbabwe’s constitution-making process as a key advisor to COPAC, the parliamentary committee that wrote Zimbabwe’s 2013 constitution. He also served as an advisor to the former Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai between 2012 and 2013.

He taught law at the University of Kent in the United Kingdom and was a prominent constitutional expert. Magaisa was a towering figure in the Citizen Movement. He exhibited thought leadership and endlessly gave of his intellect, ideas and insight to the struggle for democracy. He firmly believed in the philosophy of placing citizens at the centre of all matters of governance. He loved Zimbabwe and always spoke fondly of his communal lands in Njanja, Chivhu.

Most citizens will remember Magaisa for his acclaimed blog, The Big Saturday Read, which offered in-depth analyses of law and politics in Zimbabwe. Magaisa was unafraid to speak truth to power and to offer constructive criticism to friends and foes alike. He had a remarkable capacity to deconstruct complex principles and ideas into bite-size treatises that gripped the attention of citizens of all walks of life.

True to his commitment to enhance a culture of respect for the rule of law and constitutionalism, he wrote a handbook on citizens’ fundamental rights and freedoms under the constitution.

A dark cloud has fallen over the nation. The citizens have been robbed of a voice, a heart and a beautiful mind. Magaisa leaves a rich legacy and an indelible mark on the struggle for democracy and good governance in Zimbabwe.

We are grateful for his industry in sharing his bold ideas for a better Zimbabwe and we pay homage to him for seamlessly adhering to principle – even when it was inconvenient or unpopular. It is going to be impossible to fill the void left by him.

As a tribute to his legacy, we undertake to champion the values he stood for and to ensure that his dream for a prosperous Zimbabwe where the dignity of all people is respected comes to fruition.

We extend our deepest sympathy to his wife, Shamiso, his family, siblings and loved ones.

Rest in peace, Musaigwa.

Police Meddling In Zanu PF Affairs

A leaked internal police memorandum has exposed that the ruling Zanu PF party’s popularity is waning at the grassroots, especially in its rural strongholds.

Over the weekend, Zanu PF conducted an audit of its cell structures ahead of the 2023 elections at events dubbed the national cell day launched on Saturday.

The party’s national cell day was, however, marred by poor turnout and confusion in most parts of the country.

Over the weekend, Zanu PF conducted an audit of its cell structures ahead of the 2023 elections at events dubbed the national cell day launched on Saturday.

The party’s national cell day was, however, marred by poor turnout and confusion in most parts of the country.

In some areas, the party cells failed to meet after Zanu PF supporters failed to turn out, a development which forced Zanu PF vice-president and second secretary Kembo Mohadi to cancel the exercise in his home town, Beitbridge.

In most urban areas, supporters went about their normal day-to-day businesses and completely ignored the Zanu PF cell gatherings.

In a leaked internal memo dated May 11, 2022 written by police district intelligence officer Masvingo East Grifton Mushovu, seen by NewsDay, the security officers noted that in some areas, issues of factionalism within the ruling party contributed to the poor turnout.

In the memo, police said in areas where there was a high turnout of supporters for the cell audits, most of them were not registered party members.

They warned the ruling party to up its game saying the poor attendance was a “shadow of what is on the ground”.

“However, there are reports that most cell structures are not a true reflection of what is on the ground,” the memo read.

“Some are reportedly doctored to save the interests of the sitting Member of Parliament, especially in Bikita East constituency where it is alleged that Comrade Johnson Madhuku ordered that no cell structure should be submitted to the party office without signatures appended by him as a seal of approval. The cell verification exercise should be taken seriously and holistically since cell structures on paper are a shadow of what is on the ground. Some cell chairpersons are deliberately omitting some members from the structures and when they get to 50 members,” the memo added.

Contacted for comment, Mushovu could neither deny nor confirm the authenticity of the memo saying: “I can’t comment over the phone. Where are you? I really can’t talk over the
phone.”

CBZ Bank Launches ZINARA Tap Card

By A Correspondent| CBZ Bank has introduced the ZINARA Tap Card, a rechargeable smart card that adds convenience and ease to the motoring public on their road trips. With this card’s expediency, motorists will reduce risks of exposure to COVID19 because they do not have to physically pay tolls at toll gates.

The Tap Card is an easy-to-use, reloadable card that allows motorists to pay tolls electronically and instantly. To load or reload the card, motorists can either fund the card through ZIPIT, RTGS or mobile money transfer services like Ecocash or One Wallet. Once the funds reflect, the card is ready for use.

Apart from the intriguing unique toll gate experience, the CBZ ZINARA Tap Card provides motorists with additional benefits and options while on the road. The card can be used to purchase goods in retail outlets or any point of sale that has a Zim Switch-enabled platform.

To enhance the motorist’s experience and convenience, the card is enabled for dual cash withdrawal for both US Dollars and ZWL at any CBZ ATM nationwide. Furthermore, the ZINARA card can be linked and activated to be compatible with the CBZ Touch mobile application, allowing motorists to conduct online transactions such as paying bills, purchasing airtime, and transferring funds.

To access the card, motorists can simply walk in any ZINARA or CBZ Bank branch with a valid national ID and the card will be ready instantly.

NPA Fails To Explain Fraudulent Release Of Murder Suspect

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has reportedly become evasive over its failure to investigate alleged fraudulent release of suspects who killed a Chegutu man for alleged maize theft in 2003.

Shingirai Dendera, a brother to the now deceased Tambudzai Dendera lodged a complaint with the NPA in 2020, inquiring why the suspects, who allegedly killed his brother at a farm in Mandalay Park, were released before the close of the State case, 18 years ago.

Documents seen by NewsDay reveal that on November 12, 2020, Dendera wrote to then Prosecutor-General Kumbirai Hodzi, requesting a probe into the conduct of a public prosecutor only identified as Mabeza, whom he said consented to the release of one of the suspects accused of obstructing the course of justice in the matter.

The accused in the matter, Fredrick Ngombe, a Mandalay Park farmer, Tonderai Murehwa, Fungai Manyumwa and Amon Terrence stood trial in 2007 on murder charges at the High Court under file number CR343-4/07/2003, but were released before finalisation of the matter.

Contacted for comment, acting Prosecutor-General Nelson Mutsonziwa referred NewsDay to the NPA spokesperson Angeline Munyeriwa, who further referred the questions to one Chipo Muronda, who was, however, not reachable for comment.

NPA chief law officer Justin Uladi later told NewsDay that there had been progress on the matter.

“We have made progress. We will be calling the guy (Shingirai) to explain the progress made,” Uladi said.

Shingirai, however, told NewsDay that he had not yet received any communication from the NPA.

“They haven’t yet called me,” Shingirai said. “I have made a follow up, but I have not yet received meaningful information on the progress of the matter. It pains me to see the suspect walking scot free when finalisation of the matter was stalled at the court. I appeal to all relevant authorities to intervene in this matter to ensure that the law takes its course as provided for in the Constitution.”

Dendera claimed that Justice Tendai Uchena released the suspect from custody on Mabeza’s advice in the absence of a trial prosecutor, one Makwakwa.

‘Zanu PF Reduced Into Rubble And Debris’

By Leonard Koni| Zanu PF has now been reduced into rubble and debris. The opposition must snatch this opportunity and be ready to govern.

The popularity rating has been shrinking at an alarming rate since 2000. It looks like the people are so much disgruntled on the ground than before and Zanu-PF has gone back to the 2008 levels.

There are many factors which have attributed to this fall out within the revolutionarly party. The major ones being an economy that is more elitist that has been serving just a few individual top brass including its families.

Factionalism is another factor which has not spared the organisation. It is tearing and haunting the party. There seems to be elements of G40 which are so alive, kicking and trying to wrestle power from the fading Team Lacoste. The party has failed to unite it’s own people.

The biggest problem which the country is currently facing is emanating from this disjointed Zanu PF government which is always fighting for its own survival than the whole nation.

The ruling party has lost its glory days. This has forced them to abdicate their governance duties and to concentrate on giving a lifeline to the lifeless regime. It is a catastrophe for a government of the day to spent much of its time abusing state funds through pouring much needed resources to party businesses with the aim of consolidating power and forgetting that they have a national mandate to serve the nation.

On the other hand the opposition is not leaving any stone unturned trying to canvass for more support from both the urban and rural areas and this has caused so much panic to the revolutionary party.

They have left the country on autopilot to concentrate on staying in power. All these cell meetings are just a sheer waste of time and resources. They have flopped with less than a million supporters reporting out of a possible 2, 5 million based on 50000 cells and 50 members per cell.

These cell meetings actually don’t bring any value to the majority of Zimbabweans who are suffering across the country.

Zanu PF has forgotten that it is in power to run the country not to play politics, torture, abduct, terrorise, intimidate, kill, frustrate the opposition and manipulate people to vote for them.

Instead of fixing the economy a group of old men is planning on how they can silence the voice of the voiceless.

Whilst pursuing that myopic agenda the country is burning. We have a leadership vacuum. It’s a do or die in 2023.

Chiweshe Man Loses Cash To Ladies Of The Night

A Chiweshe man lost $US150 to two commercial sex workers who searched him while he was asleep after a juicy act with the duo.

Darlington Meki (26) is counting his losses after he did not recover a cent from the stolen money.

The matter came to light at Bindura magistrates courts on Friday where Fungai Kazunga (23) and Elizabeth Karichi (34) appeared  before magistrate Samantha Dhlamini.

The duo was sentenced to a year in jail which was conditionally  suspended  to community  service.

Prosecutor Nyasha Mhonda told the court that on May 25 Meki hired the duo on night sex service while he had US$150 in his pocket.

They had a night service and when he fell asleep the hookers stripped him of his money.

He discovered  that his money had been stolen the next day and filed a police report leading to the arrest of the duo.

Zanu PF Hooligans At It Again

By A Correspondent- Hartzell High School in Mutare has said it will no longer be to feed learners beyond 22 June as food stocks are running dry. The School head has in a letter seen by Pindula News urged parents and guardians of learners to take the learners home.

The letter dated 12 June reads:

Basic Commodities Disappear From Shop Shelves

By- Continued increase of basic commodities pushes consumers to engage in panic buying as they fear shortages of these essential commodities.

According to NewsDay this is emptying shop shelves with such commodities ending up on the black market while consumers keep others in homes.

The Consumer Council of Zimbabwe (CCZ) conducted a survey recently and observed that cooking oil was among the affected commodities. CCZ spokesperson Chris Kamba told NewsDay Business:
Some people are now hoarding basic commodities in anticipation of a looming food crisis.
Consumers are panicking over the parallel market rate which continues to change on a daily basis.

A recent survey by CCZ revealed that the most affected product is cooking oil, which is going for $2 100 (about US$4 at the parallel market rate) in the big retail shops, against $5,50 on the black market. So, some people are resorting to hoarding the product and resell at the informal market.
The development reminds of the hoarding spree that was witnessed in 2008 when the country experienced another hyperinflation.
The recent wave of market panic has been sparked by a deadly erosion of the Zimbabwe dollar’s buying power.

The currency has lost over 30% of its value against the United States dollar since January.

Our lectures are giving us lower marks even if you meet the demands of the assignments.
Because we want to pass, we are forced to pay for better marks.

Former Bosso Star Starts Own Company

In a country where football stars and investing go a wind-ward direction against each other, any case of a player preparing for life after retirement is praiseworthy.

When former Highlanders and CAPS United speedster Gabriel Nyoni suffered a horrific injury while turning out Cape Umoya in the South African National First Division in February last year, his future as a player was shrouded in uncertainty.

To ensure financial security, the former Maritzburg United winger, who is a holder of a marketing degree, started a cleaning and detailing company called GN27 Detailing and Cleaning Services.

The organisation is based in Cape Town and offers upholstery cleaning, car seats cleaning, car valets, carpet cleaning, car paint correction and residential cleaning in the Mother City.

“I am humbled by God’s Grace to give me the wisdom to prepare for any anomalies in my life. The principle of not putting all your eggs in one basket sank very well in my brain,” said Nyoni.

“I started the company in 2021 and I employ 10 people already. Our services are mobile and we go to the client.

“Our goal is to become the best detailing and cleaning company in Cape Town,” he added.

Nyoni admits it’s difficult for football players based in Zimbabwe to invest, due to the unstable economic environment but urged them to attain skills which might help them after retirement.

“To be honest, its very difficult for any footballer to invest in an inflationary environment. But the little they can do is to equip themselves with skills outside football. Skill pays more than education,” he said.- Soccer 24 Zimbabwe

Police Must Not Take Orders From Zanu PF

By Maureen Kademaunga

The Zimbabwean Police has proved to be competent and able to solve crime but with a worrying exception in cases that involve murders, abductions and general abuse of hrds & political actors that are critical of the ZANU PF regime and more glaringly murder cases in which a ZANU PF member is named as a suspect.

It is obvious to see that politics is now taking over policing!

The continued undue political interference in policing undermines police’s effectiveness in carrying out its mandate & erodes public confidence in the police thereby breeding non-cooperation and a real danger of degeneration into lawlessness.

Politics must stay out of Policing! Public confidence in the police is now very low and yet it is a key element for effective policing. Policing is anchored on a dual aspect of enforcement of the law and enablement of rights & as such relies much on the public’s confidence that the police’s powers are just and necessary and free of undue political influence.

The regime must allow the police to be a non-partisan, apolitical organisation that polices by consent with respect and approval of the public as enshrined in the constitution.

Otherwise we may never get justice for Mboneni, Dube, Moreblessing and others!

CCC Calls For Immediate Arrest Of Moreblessing Ali Killers

Tinashe Sambiri| Citizens Coalition for Change( CCC) has called for the immediate arrest of Zanu PF hooligans behind the abduction and murder of Moreblessing Ali.

Moreblessing’s mutilated body was discovered on Saturday in a shallow well in Nyatsime, Chitungwiza.

CCC Welfare Secretary Maureen Kademaunga said in a statement:

“We need to do more to demand justice & a halt to all these callous murders

•Mboneni Ncube:Stabbed to death by a spear at a CCC rally by a known ZANU PF thug (suspect not arrested)

•Langalihle Dube:murdered in his home by unknown intruders (no arrest made)

•Moreblessing Ali:Kidnapped by a known ZANU PF member & found murdered RIP (no arrest made)”

CCC Wants SADC Intervention In Zim Crisis

Tinashe Sambiri|Citizens’ Coalition for Change has challenged the Zimbabwe Republic Police to arrest suspected killers of Moreblessing Ali.

Moreblessing was abducted and brutally murdered by suspected Zanu PF thugs.

In a statement, CCC Namibia urged SADC and AU to act on the rising political crisis in Zimbabwe.

See statement below:

Citizens Coalition For Change(CCC) Namibia demands justice to Moreblessing Ali and Langalihle Dube!

12 June 2022

Citizens in Namibia demand justice to the butchered change champions Moreblessing Ali and Langalihle Dube. May their dear souls rest in power as we continue the fight against ZanuPF sponsored abductions and forced disappearances.

It is quite pathetic to witness state-sponsored torture and abductions of citizens 42 years after the so-called independence.

As a democratic alternative, we call upon SADC, African Union and United Nations to intervene to save our people from these Fascists who are terminating citizens’ precious lives on account of politics.

ZANUPF abductors must be called to order, they should be compelled to respect the sanctity of life. We can’t continue with impunity when we lose activists and human rights defenders on a daily basis.

Moreover, the citizens of Zimbabwe must also protect each other against ZANUPF abductors. It is now imperative to embrace dangerous freedom against state-sponsored torture and abductions of change champions in the motherland. The citizenry should unite and confront these thugs defending their human freedoms. Moreblessing Ali was severely attacked before she was bundled into a car belonging to ZANUPF thug Pius Jamba. Yesterday, we received bad news that our missing champion was found dead in well owned by the ZANUPF chairperson for Nyatsime, Chitungwiza,Simba Chisango.

In addition to that, Moreblessing Ali’s body was retrieved from the well in two pieces with her intestines packed in a plastic bag. This reflected that Pius Jamba and Simba Chisango killed Moreblessing Ali and cut her into two pieces before throwing her into their well 25 metres away from Chisango’s homestead. They went on to pull off her dreadlocks, the levels of torture and assault she experienced were evidently extreme. To date no one has been arrested or interrogated which signals the complicity of the desperate Harare regime in this atrocity. Citizens Coalition For Change Namibia demands justice to Moreblessing Ali! The perpetrators of the murder of our change champion must be brought to book.

As an external assembly, we encourage the police to start protecting citizens instead of conniving with ZANUPF thugs who are killing our people for believing in the alternative. Five days after Moreblessing Ali had gone missing, Paul Nyathi, the police spokesperson said it was a love affair not a political matter. A statement which unravels the unprofessional conduct of our police which is now an extension of the politically inept regime. The attempt to cover up unearthed how our police have been captured by ZANUPF, this must be resisted with equal measure.

Simba Chisango and Pius Jamba must be prosecuted and charged with murder. Participatory democracy is key at this juncture, we need to effect a citizen’s arrest on the known murderers of Moreblessing Ali.

Furthermore, ZANUPF continued with its thugocracy in Bulawayo. State sponsored thugs invaded our change champion, Langalihle Dube’s house. Mr Tuesday as he was popularly known was butchered during the night by sadist thugs from ZANUPF. Dube was a recruiter and mobiliser of change champions in Lobengula and the entire city of Bulawayo. He was killed for fighting against corruption, gross misgovernance, absolute abuse of human freedoms, arbitrary arrests, long pre-trial detentions and forced disappearances. No one has been arrested in connection with the ruthless murder of change champions. Again, we appeal to the police to discharge their duties professionally. They must apprehend bloody-minded ZANUPF thugs. We demand justice to Langalihle Dube! May his dear soul rest in power.

In a nutshell, our message to citizens across the globe is very clear, we should all embrace dangerous freedom against state-sponsored abductions and forced disappearances. Itai Dzamara disappeared and he remains unaccounted for to date, we demand justice to all victims of politically motivated violence, forced disappearances and abductions. The movement lost Mboneni Ncube in Kwekwe, a young life taken on account of politics. May his dear soul rest in power. Nyasha Zhambe was killed in Gutu, Masvingo for subscribing to the Yellow Revolution.

It is now high time we organise ourselves so that we can resist ZANUPF sponsored abductions and violence on the voices of dissent. Lets be each other’s keeper in the face of ZanuPF repression. Solidarity is a core value in social democracy. Citizens must be ready to defend one another against ZanuPF thugs. Impunity must be resisted now or never. Citizens must register to vote for change in 2023.

About Blood And Blood Products

World Blood Donor Day takes place on 14 June each year.

The Day was created to:

raise global awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products for transfusion;
highlight the critical contribution voluntary, unpaid blood donors make to national health systems;
support national blood transfusion services, blood donor organizations and other nongovernmental organizations in strengthening and expanding their voluntary blood donor programmes by reinforcing national and local campaigns.

The specific objectives of this year’s campaign are to:

thank blood donors in the world and create wider public awareness of the need for regular, unpaid blood donation;
highlight the need for committed, year-round blood donation, to maintain adequate supplies and achieve universal and timely access to safe blood transfusion;
recognize and promote the values of voluntary unpaid blood donation in enhancing community solidarity and social cohesion;
raise awareness of the need for increased investment from governments to build a sustainable and resilient national blood system and increase collection from voluntary non-remunerated blood donors.

Moreblessing Ali Burial Suspended

By-The family of the murdered CCC activist Moreblessing Ali has resolved to suspend the burial of their beloved one until her murderers are arrested.

Ali family’s lawyer, Job Sikhala, announced this during the memorial service of the late Moreblessing.

Said Sikhala:
We are at Chitungwiza Central Hospital, where the hospital wanted to do the COVID-19 tests before the autopsy.
I have been instructed by the family of Moreblessing Ali standing on this picture to announce to the public that there will be no burial of Mobby until [her] murderers are apprehended. Tomorrow’s Memorial Prayer Service will be the major event until further notice. Let us come in our thousands tomorrow to mourn our murdered colleague.

Ali’s mutilated body was found in a disused well in Nyatsime on 11 June after she went missing on 24 May.
A ZANU PF member, Pius Jambo, who is a half-brother to Simbarashe Chisango, an alleged ZANU PF terror gang leader, has been identified as a chief suspect by the police.

Jambo’s whereabouts are not known, and the police said they are looking for him.

Zanu PF Murder Suspect Up For ZEC Post

By- A Kwekwe Zanu PF senior member and former town clerk Emmanuel Musara has been shortlisted for a possible appointment to a Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) post.

He served as Kwekwe Town Clerk for almost two decades before the Council forced him to retire. Musara has contested several ZANU PF primaries and lost.

The Kwekwe-based Musara is also believed to be a close ally of President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

According to NewZimbabwe.com, Musara was arrested in connection with the murder of an MDC-T activist in 2008 but the case mysteriously disappeared.

On Sunday, Parliament’s Standing Rules and Orders (CSRO) committee announced the names of 32 candidates set to undergo public interviews to replace six Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) commissioners whose term expires early next month.

Musara was named among the 32 candidates who will be interviewed for the posts.

The public interviews will take place on 17 June 2022, in the Senate Chamber. The committee said in a statement:

The CSRO Committee called on the public to nominate persons to be considered for appointment to six vacancies in the Commission whose functions and personal specifications are outlined under section 239 of the Constitution.

The nominations closed on the 11th of February 2022. The six vacancies will arise after the 6th of July 2022 due to the expiry of term of office for six current Commissioners.

Some of the notable nominees are former ZEC chief elections officer Constance Chigwamba, Ngoni Kundidzora, a top lawyer and a current ZEC Commissioner.

CCC Pushes For Arrest Of Moreblessing Killers

Moreblessing Ali Brutal Murder: Politics In Charge Of Policing

Joana Mamombe Condemns Gruesome Murder Of Moreblessing Ali

JUSTICE for #MoreblessingAli

By Joana Ruvimbo Mamombe

It has taken me so much time to compose a message as I imagined the horror, the last sad moments of Moreblessing Ali.

When did she die? How did She die? I am outraged as I relieve the horrific and desperate moments of 13 MAY 2020 when Myself, Cecillia & Netsai were taken away and tortured by evil men ‘ruling our country’. The macabre thoughts of what could have been makes me weak at the knees.

What is it with the month of MAY and the killing & torture of WOMEN?

When shall these deaths end? When shall the perpetrators be held accountable?

As I reflect about the frequency at which our lives are being taken, our rights flagrantly violated and the shocking escalation of brutality against defenseless citizens, I call on all of us to increase our vigilance and solidarity.

I send my heartfelt condolence to Moreblessing`s family on this heinous crime and demand JUSTICE on her life…

We deserve better as a Nation

DeMbare Pair In Tanzania For Trials

Shadreck Nyahwa is undergoing trials at Tanzanian side Azam FC.

Nyahwa, along with fellow Dynamos midfielder – Ghanaian Emmanuel Paga, travelled to East Africa last week after receiving an invitation to attend a two-week assessment.

The pair have featured prominently for Dynamos this season and helped the team get a berth in the leading pack on the league table.

The trials commenced last Friday and were facilitated by local player agent George Deda.

However, with the FIFA sanctions against Zimbabwe still in place, there has been confusion on how Azam will complete the deals.

The world football body imposed the sanctions under article 13 of the FIFA Statutes, meaning that ZIFA lost all its membership rights.

The suspension of the membership rights means the FA cannot issue international clearances to any player under the local football board.

The clearance enables the player to be registered with the association where he or she will be based.

New details have emerged on why Azam allowed the trials to go on while the sanctions on Zimbabwe still stand.

According to NewsDay, Nyahwa is a free agent after his contract with Dynamos expired at the end of May, while Paga is now into the final six months of his deal.

And if the pair impresses, the transfers will be subject to Fifa lifting their ban on Zimbabwe.

The newly-installed acting ZIFA president Gift Banda recently assured the country that they are engaging FIFA on the lifting of the sanctions.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Liverpool Sign New Sensation

Liverpool and Benfica have reached an agreement for the sale of Darwin Núñez for an initial fee of €75 million and a further €25M in add-ons.

The Portuguese club confirmed the news in a statement on Monday, noting the “agreement is subject to the conclusion of the player’s sports employment contract with Liverpool FC.”

Núñez will sign a contract with the Anfield side soon after completing his medical on Monday.

The 22-year-old Uruguayan striker was the top scorer in Portugal’s top flight in the 2021-22 season and scored 34 goals in all competitions for Benfica, including goals in both legs of the club’s Champions League quarterfinal defeat by Liverpool.

Meanwhile, Núñez’s arrival at Anfield comes amid the potential departure of Sadio Mané, with the 30-year-old expected to join Bayern Munich this summer after six successful seasons with the Reds.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Slow Start For Mushekwi In China

Nyasha Mushekwi has endured a slow start to the 2022 Chinese Super League season after his Zhejiang Greentown side remained winless in its first three games.

The newly-promoted team has, so far, picked a single point and lies just two places above the dropzone.

Zhejiang marked their top-flight campaign early this month with a 1-0 loss to Shandong Luneng before securing a goalless draw against Changchun Yatai. They have lost again this afternoon, 3-1, to Henan Jianye.

Mushekwi has featured in all these matches and made his second successive start in the latest game.

However, he is yet to get his name on the scoresheet.

The Zimbabwean won the Chinese League One Golden Boot Award last season after finishing the regular term with a twenty-three-goal tally consisting of a hat-trick and three braces.

The campaign, meanwhile, marks the second spell of the former Warriors striker in the top flight, having played for Dalian Pro (formerly Dalian Yifang) in 2018 before his release after one season.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

World Blood Donor Day Message

World Blood Donor Day takes place on 14 June each year. The Day was created to:

raise global awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products for transfusion;
highlight the critical contribution voluntary, unpaid blood donors make to national health systems;
support national blood transfusion services, blood donor organizations and other nongovernmental organizations in strengthening and expanding their voluntary blood donor programmes by reinforcing national and local campaigns.

The specific objectives of this year’s campaign are to:

thank blood donors in the world and create wider public awareness of the need for regular, unpaid blood donation;
highlight the need for committed, year-round blood donation, to maintain adequate supplies and achieve universal and timely access to safe blood transfusion;
recognize and promote the values of voluntary unpaid blood donation in enhancing community solidarity and social cohesion;
raise awareness of the need for increased investment from governments to build a sustainable and resilient national blood system and increase collection from voluntary non-remunerated blood donors.

Zanu PF Hooligans Seize Moreblessing Ali Funeral

Tinashe Sambiri|Zanu PF hooligans seized Moreblessing Ali’s funeral on Monday morning.

“A gang of Zanu PF thugs led by Councillor for Seke Rural, Mr Maoeresa, has descended on the funeral of Moreblessing Ali. They are chasing mourners away from the funeral & beating those who’ve gathered up. Our security team & local leaders are on site to protect mourners,” CCC said in a statement.

What is international community to me? You think I am afraid of your international community?

Go and tell God that we have made our decision and we are not reversing it

Which law are you talking about? I don’t respect the law so don’t speak to me in your fine English Language,” the Zanu PF councillor fumed.

Russian Investor Pulls Out Of Great Dyke Platinum Project

Russia’s Vi Holding has pulled out from Zimbabwean platinum company Great Dyke Investments, marking a new challenge for Zimbabwe’s biggest platinum project, reported Bloomberg News.

A 50-50 joint venture (JV) between Vi Holding and Zimbabwe’s Kuvimba Mining House, Great Dyke Investments is developing the $3bn Darwendale platinum project.

Located on the mineral-rich Great Dyke of Zimbabwe, the long-delayed project was expected to have a peak production capacity of 860,000oz of platinum group metals (PGM) a year.

The publication cited an email from Great Dyke as saying that the Russian company exited from the JV. However, the reason for the shareholding change remains undisclosed.

Igor Higer, who had acted as Vi representative and Great Dyke chairman, said his company withdrew the arrangement.

Although initial development work on the project started in early 2020, the project’s operations were soon ceased due to low capital.

The site has remained abandoned since early 2021, according to a report by Zimbabwe’s Centre for Natural Resource Governance.

Meanwhile, Kuvimba Mining House also failed to attract fresh investment for the mining project as European buyers are considering moving away from projects involving Russian shareholders, reported Bloomberg News citing the people with knowledge of the matter.

Kuvimba CEO Simba Chinyemba said that the project is ‘ongoing’ and the plan is being remodelled for the platinum mine.

According to Great Dyke, the project has the potential to be exploited for four decades and was initially planned to start production in 2021.

The Darwendale mining project includes the development of underground mining activities to extract PGM, as well as processing facilities.

Squatter Camp Row Ends In Tragedy

By A Correspondent- A man was attacked at Killarney squatter camp in Bulawayo after being accused of burning down a shack and he later died from his injuries at the United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH).

The deceased has been identified as Ngqabutho Maganga (35) and police have since arrested the suspect, Moffat Sibanda (28) who lives at the squatter camp.

Bulawayo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube said Mr Maganga was taken to a bushy area near the squatter camp by Sibanda and another man and they assaulted him.

“On 26 May 2022 during the night, the deceased was at his residential area when he was taken by the two accused persons to a nearby bushy area at Killarney squatter camp.

“They were accusing him of setting on fire a shack belonging to another resident.

The accused persons assaulted the deceased using unknown objects all over the body and later returned him to his shack,” said Insp Ncube.

He said on May 27, Mr Maganga’s neighbours discovered that he had several injuries all over the body and they summoned an ambulance which ferried him to UBH where he was admitted.

Mr Maganga died on June 4.

Insp Ncube said Sibanda was arrested last week.

“On the 9th of June 2022, police received a tip-off that the accused was spotted at Killarney squatter camp and acting on the information, police arrested Sibanda.

“The second accused is still at large,” said Inspector Ncube.

He said police are appealing to those who might have information leading to the arrest of the second accused to contact any nearest police station

Knox describes herself as “one of the most outspoken sex workers, particularly for crypto.” Her interest kicked off in 2014, which is when she says several vendors, including PayPalSquare Cash, and Venmo, shut down her accounts because of red flags related to sex work.

So Knox started accepting cryptocurrencies instead. Her first exchange of bitcoin for content was pretty casual.

It started on a Skype call with a client. “I had a Coinbase account at the time, and he said, ‘Hold your QR code right to this camera here,’ and he sent it through the camera. And I got it,” she explained.

It took 15 minutes, and there were no chargebacks, no website commission fees, and no bank intermediaries to turn down the transaction – all major pluses in her industry. But the biggest attraction was having total and irreversible ownership over the money she had earned.

“I could cash it out. I could hold it. I could watch it go up and down,” said Knox.

“It was mine.”

Knox is one of many adult workers who say that cryptocurrencies like bitcoin give them a sense of security and independence as banks, credit card companies, and payment processors tighten regulations around adult content. With crypto, there is no middleman making a judgment call on which transactions are acceptable.

OnlyFans and the policy whiplash

Sex work is an umbrella term that includes anyone who engages in some form of erotic labor, whether virtual or in person.

“The majority of sex work in the U.S. is legal. It’s not dealt with fairly, but it’s still legal,” explained Kristen DiAngelo, an activist and Sacramento-based sex worker who has spent over four decades in the industry. “Stripping is legal…massage is legal…escorting is legal. The only thing that’s really illegal in the U.S. is the honest exchange of sexual activity for remuneration, for money.”

Some escorts – who charge anywhere from $1,700 an hour to $11,000 for a full 24 hours – now explicitly say in their ads that they prefer to be paid in bitcoin or ethereum.

The sex work industry also includes performers on the popular subscription video site OnlyFans, many of whom work exclusively online and have never seen their subscribers or fans in person.

Allie Rae is a 37-year-old mother of three boys who says she went from making about $84,000 a year as an ICU nurse in Boston to $1.3 million, thanks to her work on OnlyFans, which has more than 130 million users.

Opposition Is Closing The Gap On Us, Worried Mohadi Tells Masvingo Chiefs

ZANU PF vice president Kembo Mohadi has expressed concern that the ruling party faces defeat to the opposition in the 2023 elections if it fails to galvanise its support base.

Addressing local chiefs and several village heads from across Mwenezi District who were bussed to Rutenga growth point for a ZANU PF meeting on Wednesday, 8 June, Mohadi said the ruling party ought to be worried by the fact that the opposition closed the gap on them in the 2018 elections.

“In the 2018 general elections, the opposition amassed 2.1 million votes while our party garnered 2.4 million.

“Given that during the 2013 elections we had defeated them with a gap of one million, it means they covered the gap with a huge margin in the 2018 elections.

“These are genuine statistics which ought us to worry much and if we are not careful we can lose the upcoming elections,” said Mohadi.

Mohadi acknowledged the country’s economic challenges but blamed Western sanctions for the hardships being experienced by Zimbabweans.

ZRP Under Spotlight Over Moreblessing Ali’s Murder

By A Correspondent- Pressure is mounting on the police to unearth the circumstances behind the alleged abduction and murder of opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) activist Moreblessing Ali by suspected Zanu-PF members.

The police are being accused of “concealing” evidence to exonerate the ruling Zanu-PF party from the gruesome murder.

Ali (35) was allegedly abducted in Chitungwiza two weeks ago and her mutilated remains were recovered from a disused well in Manyame on Saturday.

Police were as of late yesterday yet to conclude identification of the remains, while results of an autopsy are yet to be released.

In a statement, police said the body was discovered by Linnah Mukandi (57), who is the mother of the prime suspect Pius Jamba, whose whereabouts remain a mystery.

Ali’s family lawyer, Job Sikhala, has, however, taken exception to the way the whole saga has unfolded.

“We are so inquisitive. How would even lovers who have decided to part ways decide to kill each other in such a brutal way that Ali was killed? The police are trying to give a picture that Pius Jamba and Simbarashe Chisango are not of the same mother. They are just trying to conceal and protect something from the public. Police are doing that for the purpose to extricate Zanu-PF from its involvement, knowing well that Simba is a prominent Zanu-PF terror gang leader in Nyatsime. For them to remove Zanu-PF from the equation, they’re trying to conceal that relationship,” Sikhala told NewsDay at Ali’s funeral wake yesterday.

“We want these people to be apprehended. We are not going to move back. We are going to continue demanding the apprehension of these people who murdered this innocent woman for no apparent reason. There is nothing whatsoever that can lead to taking human life which is sacrosanct.

“We cannot allow this thing to continue. We have had many people who disappeared without a trace. Itai Dzamara was taken in the public glare in Glen View and up to now, there is no closure to that case. We want to know Ali’s killers. This thing is not going to end well if this doesn’t come to conclusion. We will make sure that her spirit won’t rest until these people are haunted. All their extended families shall suffer,” Sikhala added.

He vowed that if a post-mortem is done excluding Ali’s family, her remains would not be laid to rest.

“We are not going to allow a post-mortem examination that will be done without my full participation as a family lawyer. We are not going to accept a post-mortem alone, we want a forensic examination. We want full disclosure of how she was murdered. We want full medical material facts that will assist to come to conclusion of this matter. I will not betray the trust the family has put in me to make sure that all due processes are done within the ambits of confidence and law,” Sikhala declared.

A family member who preferred anonymity accused the police of snubbing the family during investigations.

“From the beginning, the police were not co-operating with us. At first, the police called Chisango and told him that they wanted Jamba at police and he said he would look for him. I once told the Assistant Inspector at Beatrice that our case wasn’t being held well.

“We spent three days without knowing the RRB (Report Received Book) number. There was a lack of co-operation until Saturday when I got the message that Ali’s body had been found. But for now, I don’t know the police officers handling the case,” the family member said.

When contacted for an update, national police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said: “We stand by the statement which we issued last night (Saturday).”

Part of Nyathi’s Saturday statement read: “Some are openly inciting violence … The police reiterates that this is a callous and heinous crime of which all efforts will be made to ensure that suspects are brought to book without fail … Politicians should not interfere with criminal investigations and allow the due process of the law to be followed. The police will leave no stone unturned in order to locate the suspect Pius Jamba and any other suspect linked to this case. Police will release detailed information soon.”

Zanu-PF spokesperson Christopher Mutsvangwa and party director for information Tafadzwa Mugwadi could not be reached for comment yesterday.

The ruling party’s national administration secretary Obert Mpofu refused to comment on the matter.

“Contact Mutsvangwa or Mugwadi,” he said curtly.

Meanwhile, there has been an upsurge in politically-related abductions and incidents of violence as political temperatures continue to rise ahead of the 2023 general elections.

Non-governmental organisation Zimbabwe Peace Project (ZPP), which has been documenting human rights abuses, said the patterns of intimidation, harassment, abductions and assaults implicating the ruling party continued unabated in the month of May.

The organisation recorded cases in which Zanu-PF abused its influence in government to manipulate national processes like the voter registration blitz, the mobile national documentation outreach and food aid distribution.

Zanu-PF ward leaders are allegedly holding meetings, mostly in Mashonaland, Masvingo and Manicaland provinces threatening that if the ruling party lost the 2023 elections, they would — together with State security agents — unleash violence similar to that of the 2008 re-run that saw former Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai (now late) pulling out of the race, with then President Robert Mugabe (also late) running the race alone.

The violence was so unbearable that Mugabe won uncontested.

“So far, Zanu-PF has been responsible for 165 human rights violations in April and 193 in May, all related to how the party is closing down the space for opposition activity,” ZPP said.-newsday

Fresh Collission Brewing Between ZimSec, Markers

By A Correspondent- The Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (Zimsec) and script markers are heading for a fresh collision as the latter complain that the value of their payouts has been eroded by inflation.

Zimsec recently paid examiners their dues for marking the 2021 Ordinary and Advanced Level examinations.

Zimbabwe’s inflation is currently deemed the world’s highest and when the examiners signed contracts to mark O and A Level examinations early this year, the$33 000 agreements were worth US$140, but when government finally paid, it was sitting at around US$55.

There are reports that Zimsec is battling a financial crisis that resulted in its failure to pay examiners on time.

An examiner who requested anonymity accused government of deliberately delaying to pay them.

“Government no longer cares and doesn’t respect us anymore. This is not what we signed up for. When we signed this contract, we were supposed to get US$140, but now, we can’t even afford (anything). They just want to see us suffering. It’s now more than seven months since we signed these contracts,” the examiner said.

Teachers’ unions yesterday told NewsDay that the markers’ salaries were grossly inadequate.

Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe president Obert Masaraure said their salary was now a mockery.

“These salaries are a mockery of the hard work that has been put in by our teachers who were marking O and A Level examinations. When they signed this contract, they were expecting to be paid around US$140, but now, they get something which is equivalent to US$55.

“This is deliberate from Zimsec and the government. This is regrettable and in future, teachers may choose not to participate in this process. We urge teachers that in future, they should sign time-bound contracts. They are able to sue them,” Masaraure said.

In a tweet, Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (PTUZ) said the figures being paid to examiners induced a sense of shock.

“Zimsec finally paid O and A Level markers their dues, about $33 000. When they signed their contracts in February, that was worth US$135. Today, it’s US$55. Both figures induce a sense of shock. Has the profession fallen from grace this much?” PTUZ quried.

Educators Union of Zimbabwe vice-president Tapedza Zhou said government had failed to take teachers seriously.

“It is disgusting. We are not happy about the salary. It shows how Zimsec and the government are not serious about teachers’ welfare. We are saying that after work, we deserve to be paid, and they deliberately postponed paying these teachers because they know that after a certain period of time, that money will lose value,” Zhou said.

Slain CCC Member Langelihle Dube Burial Date Set

By A Correspondent- Bulawayo entrepreneur and Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) member Langelihle Dube, who was killed by a machete gang on June 8, will be buried today in Esigodini, Matabeleland South province.

The marauding machete gang pounced at Dube’s home at around 2am demanding money, injured him and later robbed his wife of US$25 before disappearing.

Dube sustained thigh and head injuries believed to have led to his death.

CCC Bulawayo province tweeted yesterday that Dube would be buried in Esigodini today.

“Due to the overwhelming outpouring of grief by family and citizens (local and abroad), burial has been postponed to Monday June 13 at Mlomoliwoto in Esigodini,” the party said.

The body left Bulawayo yesterday for Esigodini.

On Wednesday last week, CCC Bulawayo province announced that Dube, popularly known as Mr Tuesday, who personally mobilised and helped to register the highest number of voters among all CCC district members, had died during the attack by the thugs at his Lobengula home.

Family spokesperson Kholisani Matenga told the State media last week that he believed Dube’s death was a result of opportunistic crime.

Indications are that when the criminals broke into Dube’s house, he tried to fight them.

It also emerged that a week ago, there was another robbery at a nearby church, where thieves confronted a church treasurer demanding cash.

Lovers In Soup Over Gun

By A Correspondent- A 27 year old man from Emganwini suburb and his girlfriend have been dragged to court for illegal possession of a firearm.

Simelweyinkosi Dube (27) and his girlfriend Carl Ncube were on Tuesday arraigned before Bulawayo regional magistrate Elisha Singano, who remanded them in custody to June 20.

The firearm, a Browning pistol, is suspected to have been used in a spate of armed robberies in the city.

It was found in their bedroom wardrobe.

Prosecutor Patience Sibanda told the court that on November 14, 2021, the Bulawayo Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Homicide squad arrested Dube over an armed robbery case which had occurred along Harare-Bulawayo Highway on September 8, 2021.

After the arrest, it is alleged that Dube hid the pistol in his wardrobe at their Emganwini home.

The duo was nabbed after detective Wellington Masuku received a tip-off that the suspect in the robbery case was Dube.

He was arrested after he took his vehicle to a mechanic in Cowdray Park.

Dube tried to flee, but was shot on the left thigh. He later disclosed to the police that the pistol they were looking for was at his Emganwini house.

Ncube was also charged for unlicensed possession of a firearm.

She, however, denied the charges and alleged that she never saw the pistol while cleaning the bedroom.

Dube was transferred from Gwanda provincial magistrates’ court, where he had another pending trial for robbery cases.

He was granted bail in January this year after getting arrested and detained at Gwanda Police Station for other robbery charges.-newsday
