By Dr. Masimba Mavaza

Honorable Ziyambi Ziyambi, the Minister of Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, extended his condolences yesterday to the family, friends, and congregants of the Seventh Day Adventist community and the entire nation for the loss of Senior Pastor Elder Mike Munyuki Maponga, who passed away at the age of 80. Elder Maponga, who began his ministry at the age of 12, took his last breath in a private hospital in Gweru, surrounded by loved ones.

Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi, himself an Adventist, conveyed the message, saying, “Zvakaoma, God has done His will. May God provide comfort to the family and the church community. Until we meet again.”

Elder Museva, who had worked closely with Elder Maponga in Chiredzi, expressed his emotions on the WhatsApp platform, saying, “No one can cross a line that God has drawn. It is indeed a moment of profound sadness.”

Honorable Ronald Nyathi from Shurugwi reminded us that this world is not our permanent home, and we will all find our way out eventually.

Tributes have also poured in from various parts of the world, including former Church Presidents now residing in the USA. Former advisor to the Royal family of Eswatini, Prince Dhlamini, who is also an Adventist, sent his heartfelt condolences to Adventists in Zimbabwe and worldwide. He commended the remarkable impact of the late religious leader on charitable endeavors, particularly in education and healthcare.

Elder Noah Mandeya from the United Kingdom recalled Elder Maponga’s powerful preaching at Budiriro 2 SDA church and the influence he had on those who heard him. Elder Maponga came from a family of preachers, with a lineage of impactful speakers.

Retired Pastor Jerry Gwasira acknowledged Elder Maponga’s significant contributions to the country’s development, including his support for the weak and vulnerable. He emphasized the importance of preserving Elder Maponga’s legacy and offering comfort to the grieving family.

Dr. Kawadza Herbert expressed his heartfelt condolences on Twitter, recognizing Elder Maponga as a beacon of faith and hope.

Pastor Robert Muzira conveyed that the loss of Elder Maponga was deeply felt by the entire Seventh Day Adventist congregation and Zimbabwe as a whole.

Dr. O Mpofu, the ZANU PF Secretary General, encouraged the family, especially the deceased’s children, friends, fellow clergy, and the entire church community, to accept Elder Maponga’s passing as part of God’s plan.

Pastor Tunhira added that Elder Maponga’s death was a great loss to the Christian community, but he took solace in knowing that the departed lived a good and impactful life.

Elder Maponga’s legacy as a teacher, preacher, and servant of God was praised by many, and his positive impact extended beyond Zimbabwe’s borders.

Elder Xavier Nkomo lamented the loss and wished for Elder Maponga’s soul to find eternal rest.

Elder Sondoni Starlin Mugaradziko described Elder Maponga as a confident servant of God, and he believed that the late pastor would rise to glory in the afterlife.

Michael Mudzamiri recognized Elder Maponga’s exemplary life and the challenges he overcame, expressing a wish for him to rest in perfect peace.

Pastor Pardon Chenjerai emphasized Elder Maponga’s deep love for people and his dedication to his faith.

Elder Maponga, known for his joyful steps and spontaneous praises during his messages, will be dearly missed by the Seventh Day Adventist community.

Elder Maponga’s funeral is scheduled for Sunday, October 15th, in Mukwasini Estates, Chiredzi.

Basic Safety Tips For Miners

First aid should can be offered by anyone but ideally trained personnel to give first aid should offer first aid.

When offering first aid always consider your personal safety first.

Look out for any dangers and only act when you are confident it is safe to do so.

An unresponsive person is someone not moving or responding when you call them or when gently shaken.

Respiratory emergencies & CPR

Check if breathing by tilting their head back and looking and feeling for breaths.
When a person is unresponsive, their muscles relax and their tongue can block their airway so they can no longer breathe. Tilting their head back opens the airway by pulling the tongue forward. If they are breathing, you will see their chest moving and you may hear their breath or feel it on your cheek. If breathing, move on to step two.

Move them onto their side and tilt their head back. Putting them in this position with their head back helps keep their airway open. It ensures their tongue falls forward and blood and vomit drain out. It is sometimes called the “recovery position”.
Call for help or an ambulance as soon as possible.
If the patient needs CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation), place the person on their back on a firm, flat surface and start giving chest compressions aiming for 30compressions in 1minute.
How to do CPR
Hand position: Two hands centered on the chest
Body position: Shoulders directly over hands; elbows locked
Depth: At least 5cm
Allow chest to return to normal position after every chest compression.
5 Give 2 rescue breaths (if equipment to do that available). Ensure each breath lasts about 1 second and makes the chest rise; allow air to exit before giving the next breath.

Gas leak, Fire & Burns

Turn off gas if safe to do
Evacuate the area immediately
Do not switch any lights or start an open flame
If there is fire use a fire extinguisher to stop the fire from spreading and ring the fire alarm alerting everyone to evacuate the building.
If someone is on fire remove the person from the source of fire, drop and roll him or her over or cover him or her with a fire blanket.
Cool burn under running water
Protect the burn with sterile, non-adhesive bandage (DO NOT APPLY BUTTER OR OINTMENTS)
Do not break blisters
Call for an ambulance and send to hospital
Chemical spill.

Remove spoiled clothing
If skin or eyes affected rinse immediately with clean running water
If ingested do not induce vomiting and do not give water or mi unless told to d so by a health professional.
If inhaled move the person to fresh air and give oxygen if available.
After first aid is given send to hospital as soon as possible.

Breast Cancer Month: Celebrating the Strength and Resilience of Female Journalists

This Breast Cancer Month of October 2023, we celebrate the strength and resilience of female journalists.

These brave women are on the frontlines of the fight for media freedom and freedom of expression despite their many challenges, including harassment and violence.

Despite these challenges, female journalists continue to report on important stories and hold the powerful accountable. They are an inspiration to us all.

This year’s theme is: Keeping Her in The Picture, which is precisely what female journalists do through their professional lenses and storytelling. They have told stories of brave women who have survived breast cancer and, at times, their stories of survival.

This Breast Cancer Month, we encourage all female journalists to take care of themselves and their health. Breast cancer is a serious disease but is also treatable when detected early. Please get regular mammograms and screenings.

We also encourage you to support female journalists in our respective communities. Share their work, follow them on social media, and tell them how much you appreciate their courage and dedication.

Together, we can create a world where female journalists can work without fear of harassment or violence.

Nelson Chamisa Gives Zanu PF Sleepless Nights

ZANU PF PRESS BRIEF BY NATIONAL SPOKESPERSON C. MUTSVANGWA

Live @ ZANU PF HQ

Director of Information and Publicity Cde Farai Marapira introduces the ZANU PF National Secretary for Information and Publicity and hands over the platform to Cde Mutsvangwa.

Cde Mutsvangwa

We won in a peaceful election and we are now focusing on governance. We are happy that we are getting more and more support. Legitimacy was decided by the electorate. We are dismayed by events of boycotting parliament. Events in Parliament have nothing to do with ZANU PF. Parliament is an arm of the state which is independent.

The events which caused a lot of mayhem in Parliament where CCC went out of parliament about letters of recall by a member of CCC. They have not disputed that he is a member of CCC. He informed the clerk of Parliament who in compliance with the constitution had to act accordingly. The letter came from a member who holds an office in the CCC.

CCC wants to shift blame on the clerk of Parliament, he is not the originator of the letter, he is just acting according to the letter. The CCC finds itself in a predicament. If you let lawlessness take hold of your party thinking that it will attack your enermies one day the lawlessness will affect your party. In CCC we have a party leader who ascended to power through a coup in Buhera. Because of his insecurity he can not call for a Congress he fears to have structures because he knows someone will take over. Rave donga watonga. One does not know who is doing what. His rivals are conspiring against him. This is an internal matter within CCC. It’s unlike us here we have structures. In ZANU PF no one just wakes up and writes a letter recalling people. We don’t demonstrate in the streets against our own errands we take then to the laws of this country.

Instead CCC should go to the courts to address their internal rebellion. They want to aportion the rebellion to the speaker or the President.

ZANU PF does not thrive on a divided opposition. We want opposition in Parliament we can not be seen to undermine the opposition that we want to compete against during elections. Who are we as ZANU PF to challenge what the people would have said. We want constructive debates in Parliament. Its not good for democy to have chaos but the chaos here is home grown. Chamisa accepted to the wapusa wapusa where anyone just do what they want. He said we want to disorganised ourselves in order to hide from the state. Now the strategy ambiguity is eating on him. He thought it will destroy ZANU PF but it is consuming him.

The chaos in CCC has been confirmed by its senior people, the likes of Biti and Chamisa and also their influential followers have also acknowledged that there is crisis within the CCC.

We want to urge the CCC to first address their house before attacking the speaker. This comes after CCC tried to a abuse SADC through sending Nevers Mumba who wanted to instruct heads of state on what to do about Zimbabwe elections. CCC sends their delegation to SADC the likes of Gladys Hlatshwayo and Jameson Timba. Chamisa wanted to bulldoze his way through elected heads of state on what to do. Who are you Chamisa to tell Heads of States on what to do. Chamisa is now trying to create local shenanigans in order to say there is a crisis in Zimbabwe. Chamisa is a dictator within CCC and wants the country to be run along the way he runs his Party. He is playing to the gallery of Western Capitals.

CCC wanted to announce their own results using equipment they received from EU. If the EU wants Chamisa to win they must have funded the urban centers of Harare where CCC runs inorder to make them winners.

Why doesn’t EU fund development of towns here if they want their CCC to win. All CCC gets from the EU is money for subversion. They want to fund them when they are at State House. The town’s are now affected by cholera in our cities run by the opposition. We expect the EU to Provide funding to their CCC to eradicate cholera. We are here to categorically state that we are not involved in the wapusa wapusa party. We are busy developing the country. Boycott but who was in Parliament today, the CCC was in Parliament despite their boycotting talk.

Parliament is not a place to chose what you want to take and not to take what you don’t want. Chamisa through his boycott talk is trying to buy back his way to parliament through a back door. This kind of behaviour is not proper for a man who aspires to lead Zimbabwe. He wants direct talks with President Mnangagwa which the President does not ordinarily have problems but he wants his engagement with the President to fight his internal wars with Biti and Welshman. The way he runs CCC is the way he wants to engage the President behind darkness. He wants to strike a deal with the President behind the back of his colleagues. The President says I can’t help you to deal with your internal squabbles.

Chamisa wants to draw our President into a similar scheme where there is a conspiracy with his other colleagues. He wants to strike a deal in the dark. The President is saying don’t abuse me to solve your problems come in the open. CCC should use their internal systems to deal with their problems. They should also be vigilant not to allow people not authorised to write letters. If the letters get to parliament they must go to courts rather than appealing to EU or SADC. We want to work well with EU. We appreciate the EU as an economic partner we would want to engage on all aspects including debt relief. If they want Chamisa to be President they should work now for 2028. They should begin now to send development funds to CCC run councils so that the electorate can vote for them.

The EU must send Party organisers to CCC so that we don’t have a wapusa wapusa party. It looks like organising theory is absent in the head of Chamisa. It is a donga watonga party. Surprisingly the CCC is full of lawyers. They should send lecturers to Chamisa or send him for two months in Europe for experience of all European parties. He needs Party building course 101 to make him vigilant against illegal letters to parliament to deal with internal rebellion. We are revolutionary parties in SADC we know how slavery and colonialism has affected us, we are vigilant Chamisa can not abuse SADC. The EU wants Chamisa to win on the day of election. The EU should start now to educate their Chamisa on political organisation before 2028.

Unlike the EU the Chinese are partnering us, sending their investors here and building infrastructure so that the people vote for ZANU PF. China clothes ZANU PF for the battle, the EU should do the same for the CCC inorder for them to be voted.

We Are A Structureless Structure – President Chamisa

Tinashe Sambiri

CCC leader President Nelson Chamisa has said CCC does not have the post of Secretary General.

Addressing the media in Harare on Wednesday, President Chamisa accused Zanu PF of clandestinely plotting to destroy the citizens’ movement.

According to President Chamisa, CCC is a structureless structure.

“We are a structureless structure, Advocate Jacob Mudenda, you can’t just receive a letter from planet Mars and effect recalls, we have not recalled anybody.

We don’t even know the impostor, in essence he is a fraudster, we know Zanu PF is behind the shenanigans.

Stay away from CCC, hands off CCC, this is a citizens movement; you don’t just wake up one day from the streets in a drunken stupor to say I’m so and so,” said President Chamisa.

” In this movement, we do not have the position of secretary general. We have different roles and tasks.

In this movement, we don’t give each other positions but we give each other tasks.

Nobody can just wake up and recall our candidates.

In fact, it is a Zanu-PF scheme … Zanu-PF is using certain people purporting to be CCC, who are not even in our books in terms of membership registry, “added the CCC leader.

” We are taking decisive action to end the circus. The political situation in the country is deteriorating with each passing day, which is a sad scenario, ” President Chamisa said.

IMF predicts 400% inflation rise

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has forecast that Zimbabwe’s annual inflation rate is expected to rise to nearly 400% by the end of the year due to the depreciation of the local currency. This projection comes despite the Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency revising its inflation calculation method for the second time in the year.

According to the IMF’s World Economic Outlook report, Zimbabwe’s annual inflation rate is predicted to reach 396.2% by the end of this year and 190.2% in 2024. Notably, the October inflation projections are an upward revision of 224 and 55.6 percentage points, respectively, from the fund’s April projections for 2023 and 2024.

Zimbabwe currently has the highest annual inflation rates in Africa, with an annual inflation rate of 18.4% in September following the adoption of a geometric aggregation method for analyzing the consumer price index.

Despite this challenging economic climate, the IMF has revised the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) growth upward by 1.6 percentage points to 4.1% for this year, and it projects a one percentage point increase in GDP growth to 3.6% for 2024. However, the lower growth rate for 2024 is attributed to the potential negative impact of an El Niño drought on the agricultural sector’s cash crops and international mineral prices.

IMF’s inflation projections suggest that Zimbabwe faces significant economic challenges, including price and exchange rate instability, structural bottlenecks, global headwinds, and a high wage bill, as well as high interest payments.

Despite Zimbabwe’s high GDP growth in 2022 driven by continued agricultural production and favorable international mineral prices, the country still grapples with triple-digit inflation and persistent poverty. The World Bank emphasizes the need to address issues related to structural transformation and vulnerability, including shocks such as drought, natural disasters, and the COVID-19 pandemic.

Additionally, Zimbabwe’s unsustainable debt and arrears to international financial institutions continue to limit fiscal space and growth potential, as stated by the World Bank.

Zim yet to reap full benefits from lithium sector

By A Correspondent- The Chinese ambassador to Zimbabwe, Zhou Ding, has expressed that Zimbabwe currently faces challenges in developing battery-grade lithium, despite possessing significant lithium reserves, a vital mineral in clean energy technology production. He highlighted several issues inhibiting the country from fully reaping the benefits of its lithium sector.

“China fully supports the Zimbabwean government’s vision for value addition and low-carbon development through the expansion of the mining industry, particularly in the lithium sector. However, Rome was not built in a day,” he noted.

One major challenge is the dependence on imported raw materials like sulfuric acid, which has high costs, for battery-grade lithium production. Moreover, lithium processing is energy-intensive, and Zimbabwe faces issues of insufficient power supply and high electricity costs, which hinder battery-grade lithium production. Ding also mentioned long-term competition from neighboring countries like South Africa and Zambia.

While Zimbabwe has some of the world’s largest lithium deposits, it has primarily focused on petalite production (a form of lithium used in ceramics, aluminum smelting, and glass) at Bikita Minerals since the 1950s.

Ding stated that further investment in new energy mining in Zimbabwe would require more in-depth market research and support measures. Chinese mining giants, including Zhejiang Huayou Cobalt, Sinomine Resource Group, and Chengxin Lithium Group, have invested a total of $678 million in lithium mines and projects in Zimbabwe over the past year.

The chief director of Zimbabwe’s Transport ministry, Suston Muzenda, also spoke at the event, highlighting the challenges in the country’s transport sector. He emphasized the need to address high operating costs and accessibility issues, which affect the competitiveness of Zimbabwean products and pose challenges to urban and rural communities. Muzenda suggested embracing e-mobility, including the adoption of electric vehicles and the development of a sustainable transportation ecosystem, as a transformative solution for the transport crisis in the country.

Mr Teen Zimbabwe dethroned over US$30 bootcamp fee

By A Correspondent- Reigning Mr Teen Zimbabwe 2023 Abel Mugari has been dethroned amid allegations of defaulting on a bootcamp fee of US$30 and failure to attend the bootcamp among other reasons.

Mugari was crowned Mr Teen Zimbabwe a fortnight ago at a pageant held in Bulawayo simultaneously with Mr Zimbabwe International.

Mr Teen Zimbabwe 2022, David Takavarasha has since replaced Mugari as the new Mr Teen Zimbabwe 2023.

In a statement, Mr Teen Zimbabwe organiser Ishmael Murangandi said the decision to dethrone Mugari was made following a thorough investigation into his conduct, which was found to be unacceptable.

“It is with regret to announce that Mugari is no longer working with the Mr Teen Zimbabwe brand and neither is he still the brand ambassador nor the grand winner of the 2023 edition,” part of the statement read.

“The reason for this action is known by both parties and cannot be disclosed to the public in order to protect his reputation. Mugari has to surrender all awards that came with the title with immediate effect.”

Contacted for comment, Mugari, however, said some of the reasons he was reprimanded for included use of his own accommodation and transport from Harare to Bulawayo prior to the event.

He also revealed that the pageant had no prize money.

“The friction between me and the organisers started when they allegedly demanded US$40 for a bootcamp I did not attend,” he said.

“Prior to the event at which I was crowned Mr Teen Zimbabwe, the organisers had arranged a bootcamp, which came at a cost of US$40. The organisers insisted they still required the full US$40 payment for the bootcamp which I had not attended,” he said.

“I was only able to pay them US$10 which is all I had on me and advised that I would discuss the balance payment with my parents. At this stage being a teenager, I am still under the guardianship and stewardship of my parents who meet all my day-to-day expenses.”

Mugari said his parents felt that since he had not attended the bootcamp, it was, therefore, irregular for the event organisers to demand full payment for something he did not participate in.

“My parents, however, in seeking to meet the organisers halfway, were happy to pay 50% of the bootcamp despite the fact that I had not actually attended it. This, unfortunately, was not acceptable to the organisers.

“They then instructed me to immediately hand over my sash, as well as the shield that I had received. I obliged with no quarrels,” he told NewsDay Life & Style.

Mugari added: “It is quite upsetting to discover that all this has led to me being labelled as having behaviour that is not fitting or unacceptable, and that I am not worthy to be the crown holder.

“I believe I diligently worked to achieve the recognition that the organisers themselves gave me at the pageant. It is regrettable that now because of a mere US$30, I find myself stripped of that title and my reputation blemished.”-newsday

Busted r_apist runs away with condom

A man from Mabutweni suburb in Bulawayo ran away with a condom still ‘stuck’ on his manhood after he was busted trying to rape a nine-year-old girl who was also his church mate in a bushy area.

Lizwelihle Moyo Mpofu (22) appeared before Western Commonage Court magistrate Learnear Khumalo facing an attempted rape charge.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge.

He was, however, convicted after a full trial and sentenced to serve 30 months behind bars.

Six months were suspended on condition that he does not commit any offence of a sexual nature.

In arriving at the sentence the magistrate noted that the victim was a nine-year old girl and the offender kidnapped her from church and took her to a bushy area.

She noted that a degree of violence was used as he tore her underwear and a medical report indicated that she suffered minor wounds on her private parts.

A court heard that while Mpofu was attending a night church service he sweet-talked the minor girl to accompany him to a nearby bush area under the pretext that he wanted to pray for her.

While they were on their way the minor girl sensed danger and requested to return but Mpofu forcibly grabbed her and headed to the bushy area.

It is reported that when Mpofu was about to abuse the girl she screamed for help thereby attracting the attention of her parents and some congregants who rushed to the scene and busted Mpofu trying to rape her.

Upon seeing that he had been busted Mpofu sped off with a condom still on his manhood.

He also left his sandals at the crime scene. The crowd reported the incident to the police leading to his arrest.

SADC final report confirms Zim elections were flawed

A final report from the SADC Election Observer Mission (SEOM) regarding Zimbabwe’s elections on August 23 has once again underlined the group’s initial assertion that the electoral process in the country was marred by significant flaws that may have biased the outcome against the opposition.

In their preliminary report, which had previously elicited a strong reaction from Zimbabwean authorities, SEOM had stated that the election was riddled with irregularities and did not conform to regional and international standards for conducting credible elections.

In their concluding report, SEOM reaffirmed their concerns about the electoral process that secured President Emmerson Mnangagwa a controversial second term, emphasizing that “some aspects of the Harmonized Elections did not meet the requirements of the Constitution of Zimbabwe, the Electoral Act, and the SADC Principles and Guidelines Governing Democratic Elections (2021).”

Furthermore, SEOM raised questions about the independence of the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC), particularly due to the close connections some of its commissioners had with senior officials of the ruling Zanu-PF party. The report recommended that if it is confirmed that certain ZEC Commissioners are closely linked to senior ruling party members, such connections should be considered as grounds for disqualification in the recruitment of ZEC officials, in accordance with Section 11(2) of the Electoral Act and Section 4.1.9 of the SADC Principles and Guidelines.

SEOM’s recommendations included urging ZEC to make the voters’ roll available to stakeholders, allowing ample time for inspection and verification in accordance with the Electoral Act. They also called for the government to involve other stakeholders in the design of ballot papers to enhance transparency and establish clear timelines for providing the voters’ roll and ballot information.

Given concerns about the perceived partiality of ZEC, the mission encouraged ZEC to adopt a proactive communication strategy that engages stakeholders at all stages of the electoral process, aiming to build confidence and a sense of ownership among key stakeholders and the general public.

Lastly, SEOM stressed the importance of all concerned parties using appropriate legal channels to address any grievances related to the election results to ensure the exhaustion of domestic legal remedies.

US$120 million EU support for Kariba dam restoration

The European Union (EU) has allocated €113 million (approximately US$120 million) to support the restoration of Kariba Dam, as part of the Global Gateway initiative aimed at enhancing the country’s electricity generation capacity.

This announcement was made during a site visit to the project attended by EU ambassadors to Zimbabwe and Zambia, Jobst von Kirtman and Karolina Stasiak, respectively, along with Energy Minister Edgar Moyo, his Zambian counterpart Peter Chibwe Kapala, and other delegates.

Kariba Dam is jointly owned by Zimbabwe and Zambia, and both countries generate electricity under the management of the Zambezi River Authority.

Von Kirtman stated that the rehabilitation of Kariba Dam is a crucial aspect of the EU’s initiative, aimed at addressing global challenges in a sustainable manner. He highlighted that the dam’s rehabilitation could potentially contribute to over 50% of Zimbabwe’s total electricity production.

The partnership for the rehabilitation project involves the EU, the Zambezi River Authority, the World Bank, the African Development Bank, the Swedish International Development and Co-operation, and both Zambia and Zimbabwe. This initiative represents an investment in the future of both nations.

Zimbabwe currently operates a 1,050-megawatt hydroelectric power plant on Lake Kariba. In the past, the two countries faced a crisis due to a significant drop in water levels in Lake Kariba, leading to severe power shortages on both sides of the Zambezi River.

The EU emphasized that rehabilitating Kariba Dam is essential, as a potential dam collapse could have catastrophic consequences, affecting millions of people and causing a significant economic impact.

Pressure group calls on gvt to intervene on Gukurahundi mass graves

By A Correspondent- Ibhetshu LikaZulu, a pressure group based in Matebeleland, has called on the government to deploy security personnel to protect memorial plaques that the organization erected on several Gukurahundi mass graves in Matebeleland and Midlands provinces, as some of them have been vandalized.

The pressure group claims that suspected State security agents have vandalized the plaques on multiple occasions. Their secretary-general, Mbuso Fuzwayo, mentioned that they plan to replace the plaques damaged at the Bhalagwe mass graves in Matobo and Silobela, Midlands province this month. Fuzwayo emphasized that the government has a moral obligation to honor the estimated 20,000 civilians who were killed by the army during the Gukurahundi massacres of the early 1980s.

Fuzwayo questioned why the vandals only targeted the Gukurahundi plaques while leaving Rhodesian plaques untouched. He believes that the government should publicly acknowledge the mistakes of the past and take responsibility for protecting these memorial plaques.

The pressure group is working on a program to replace the destroyed plaques and expand their installations to various areas, as they continue to receive requests to replace the damaged plaques. In July, Ibhetshu LikaZulu collaborated with other interest groups to erect a memorial plaque on a mass grave in Tsholotsho, marking the site where six people were allegedly killed by the army in 1983.

Scrap Party Recall Provision, Madhuku Says

By A Correspondent| Constitutional lawyer and academic, Professor Lovemore Madhuku, has raised concerns over a provision in the Constitution that grants political parties the authority to recall their members.

In his view, this provision is fundamentally flawed and should be removed to uphold the principles of democratic representation.

Madhuku argued that the clause allowing political parties to recall their members poses a threat to the democratic process.

He emphasized that Members of Parliament (MPs) are initially elected by the people through a democratic voting process, only to be subsequently recalled by their respective parties.

This contradiction, he asserts, undermines the essence of democratic representation and the will of the electorate.

“The clause that parties can recall members must be removed from the Constitution. MPs are elected by the people and then recalled by the parties. So the problem is not within opposition parties, but the Constitution and that clause should be removed,” said Madhuku.

Madhuku’s stance is rooted in a desire to enhance the democratic framework of the country, ensuring that elected officials remain accountable to their constituents throughout their term. He believes that the current provision, enabling parties to recall their members at will, disrupts the balance of power and compromises the fundamental principles of democracy.

The issue of party recalls has sparked debates within Zimbabwe’s political landscape, with concerns raised about potential abuses and misuse of this power by political parties.

Critics argue that the provision allows parties to stifle dissent and enforce party discipline, often at the expense of the constituents’ choices.

Advocates for the removal of the recall provision contend that MPs should be accountable primarily to the voters who elected them, rather than being subjected to the whims of their party leadership.

They emphasize the importance of nurturing a system where elected representatives act in the best interests of their constituents, guided by their mandate and not partisan directives.

CCC Legislator Recalled Within Minutes of Swearing-In

By A Correspondent| In a startling turn of events, newly sworn-in Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) legislator Jasmine Toffa was swiftly recalled just five minutes after taking the oath of office as a Member of Parliament.

The incident has raised serious concerns over the constitutional implications and the functioning of democratic processes within Zimbabwe.

On Tuesday afternoon, amidst a backdrop of anticipation, Toffa officially assumed her position as a Member of Parliament.

However, within a mere five minutes of being sworn in and taking her seat, the Speaker of Parliament Jacob Mudenda read her name amongst the list of those recalled through a fake letter written by one Sengezo Tshabangu.

The recall was purportedly executed by an individual holding the position of Secretary-General (SG), a role that the CCC asserts does not exist within their organizational structure.

This sudden recall and its speedy implementation have ignited a fiery debate, prompting questions about the legitimacy and legality of such abrupt actions within the democratic framework of Zimbabwe. Advocates for democracy and constitutional adherence are demanding a thorough examination of the events and a clarification on the legality of the recall process.

“I am a CCC MP sworn in on Tuesday afternoon less than 5 min later as I took my seat The Speaker read my name amongst the list of the recalled, by a bogus SG a position we do not have in the CCC. Who is fooling who? Mr Speaker Sir? Sec 68 constitution of Zim,” said Toffa.

The CCC has raised its voice, vehemently challenging the recall and emphasizing the importance of upholding democratic principles in the country.

Mental health cases soar among teenagers

By A Correspondent- Health experts have expressed concern over a significant increase in mental health breakdowns among adolescents and teenagers due to drug and substance abuse. This issue was raised as the country observed World Mental Health Day.

Itai Rusike, the executive director of the Community Working Group on Health, highlighted the current inadequacy of public health facilities in treating mental health conditions.

He noted that during the COVID-19 pandemic, many people experienced mental health challenges related to stress, sadness, anxiety, loneliness, and depression. Public health facilities currently have limited capacity to screen, diagnose, and treat mental health conditions, as they are overwhelmed by issues related to drug abuse and a shortage of healthcare workers.

Rusike further pointed out that young people are the most affected by mental health issues, with 40% of patients at Ingutsheni Psychiatric Hospital and other healthcare institutions being victims of drug abuse. He attributed this to the lack of economic opportunities for youth and their idle time, which often leads to experimentation with harmful habits.

According to the United Nations Children’s Fund, 50% of all mental health conditions begin to manifest at the age of 14, but many cases remain undetected and untreated due to the absence of proper support mechanisms in most developing countries.

Johannes Marisa, president of the Medical and Dental Private Practitioners Association of Zimbabwe, linked the high unemployment rate to substance abuse among youth, resulting in a surge in mental health cases. He mentioned that substance-induced psychosis is currently prevalent, with drugs such as crystal meth and marijuana implicated. Marisa suggested that while private rehabilitation services are expensive and limited, people should take advantage of free mental health drugs provided by the government, which are available at various centers.-newsday

Chamisa must prove 11 Sept letter received 5 Oct was not fraudulently post-date or his name is mud!

By Wilbert Mukori- FOR THE RECORD: It turns out that while the attached letter sent to Parliament by Nelson Chamisa is dated 11 September 2023, it was actually sent to and received in Parliament on 5 October 2023,” wrote Professor Jonathan Moyo on his X account.

“The letter by CCC’s ‘Interim SG’ recalling some CCC MPs was sent to and received in Parliament on 3 October 2023.

“NB: Since on their receipt Parliament stamps and shares with the courier/messenger a stamped copy of such letters, having already made his letter public, it is in the public interest and would be very good for transparency for Nelson Chamisa to share a copy of his letter with Parliament’s stamp, showing the date of its delivery and receipt!”

It is a simple enough challenge but knowing Chamisa this could well be mission impossible!

Chamisa is well known for his silver-back gorilla grandstanding and posturing to make eye-catching headlines but when push comes to shove; more often than not he fallen flat on his face.

In 2018 Chamisa challenged the presidential election results claiming that he was the winner with 2.6 million votes. He said he had all the V11 forms; the form listing all the contestants, the votes each received, spoilt ballots, etc. from each Polling Station (PS); to prove where he got the 2.6 million votes. He stubbornly refused to release V11 forms for public inspection. He was lying!

The affidavit Chamisa submitted to the Constitution Court did not have ALL the V11 forms to account for 2.6 million votes.

In an interview with a South African journalist early this year, five years later, Chamisa confessed that MDC A did not election agents in 544 of the over 10 000 PSs in 2018.  Election agents witness the whole election process from start to finish at the PS and they are entitled to a copy of the V11 form. This would explain why MDC A did not have all the V11 forms. The 544 missing V11 constitute 5% of the total and it should be remembered that Mnangagwa won those elections with a wafer thin margin of 0.8%!

According to Douglas Mwonzora, who was a senior MDC A leader in the 2018 elections, the party did not have election agents in “over 2 000” PSs. The more PSs with no election agents the more V11 “leg room” Zanu PF would have to cheat!

It should be remember that Chamisa had not only claimed that he had all the V11 forms but had participated in the elections claiming “MDC A has stringent measures to stop Zanu PF rigging the elections!” So it turned out the party failed to take even the most basic measure as appointing election agents to all PSs!

It has emerged that CCC did not have elections agents at many PSs in the 23 August 2023 elections. History was repeating itself!

Chamisa also claimed that he had closed all the vote rigging loop-holes in the this year’s elections. It was headline news for weeks before the elections. It was all hot air, of course.

CCC participated in these 2023 elections knowing fully well that ZEC had failed to produce something as basic as a verified voters’ roll. Without a verified voters’ roll there are more vote rigging holes than in a chunk of Swiss cheese!

It is one thing for Chamisa and his wildebeest herd CCC die-hard supporters to accuse the Zanu PF Speaker of the House, Advocate Jacob Mudenda, of political. It is a totally different matter if the accusation should be based on a fraudulent lie!

If is true that the Speaker of the House did, indeed, receive Chamisa’s letter on 5 October and therefore Chamisa had fraudulently post-dated it 11 September for purposes of deceiving the public. Then Chamisa and CCC will lose political credibility (not that he has much political credit in his account given his checked political history)!

For the record the mess of these CCC MP recall is Chamisa’s own making. He has stubborning refused to have a party constitution, structure and elected office bearers because he wanted to retain control of everything. His so called “strategic ambiguity” has backed fired. The wildebeest herd must share the blame; they had allowed his to he his manic way.

The people of Zimbabwe must not allow themselves to be distracted by the  madness in CCC and parliament; we must let Zanu PF and CCC fight it out. We must focus on what the SADC leaders meeting in Tanzania on 31 October 2023 decide regarding the damning SADC Zimbabwe election report.

Let us hope that SADC will up hold the damning report and deny this Zanu PF and CCC government legitimacy and thus clearing the deck for the formation of a National Transition Authority (NTA). The primary task of the NTA, like the 2008 to 2013 GNU, will be to implement the democratic reforms.

Both Zanu PF and CCC leaders must not be included in the NTA, not if we are serious about getting ALL the reforms implemented. The two parties were in the GNU that failed to get even one token reform implemented; it would be naive, to say the least, to expect them to implement even a few reforms much less ALL the reforms.

We need to focus on getting all the democratic reforms implemented without failure!FOCUS!

R_aped goat dies

By A Correspondent- In a shocking case of bestiality, a 43-year-old herdboy from Togotsvebo Village in Mphoengs, Matabeleland South province chillingly confessed to his “sadistic sexual interest” in animals when he was charged with raping two goats leading to one of them dying during the horrifying act.

Appearing before Plumtree magistrate Joshua Nembaware, Njabulo Moyo pleaded guilty to bestiality as defined in Section 74 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act Chapter 9:23.

He was, however, saved from the agony of jail life when he was sentenced to pay a fine of $200 or one month in prison in default of payment.

In addition two months imprisonment were wholly suspended for a period of five years on condition Moyo does not within that period commit any offence of which bestiality is an element for which upon conviction he will be sentenced to imprisonment without the option of a fine.

Moyo however, made an appalling revelation when he said he had engaged in sex with goats because they satisfied his sex urge.

“I don’t know what was happening, I just found myself doing it with the goats because they satisfied my sex demand. I am sorry for what I did,” Moyo apologised.

The magistrate however, expressed profound dismay, describing Moyo’s act as “grotesque cruelty,” adding that the horrifying consequences led to the death of one of the goats.

He said it was the “highest form of animal cruelty’ he had ever seen.

The State’s case as presented by prosecutor Arnold Mudekunye was that on 1 October and at around 3am Michael Ncube woke up when he heard his goats bleating and his dogs were also barking continuously.

When he woke up he proceeded to the goat pen to investigate what was happening.

Upon arrival he busted Moyo busy having sex with one of his female goats.

Ncube then asked him what he was doing and the unperturbed Moyo threatened to beat him up before he ordered him to leave.

Ncube complied and went away to his bedroom to sleep leaving behind Moyo to continue having sex with the goat.

The court heard that at around 6am Ncube proceeded to the goat pen where he discovered that two of his female goats had been sexually abused and one of them was dead with some semen on its rear, an indication that it had died as a result of the sexual abuse.

He then advised his neighbours who tracked a trail of footprints from the goat pen which led them to Moyo’s place.

They managed to locate him and apprehended him before they took him to the police.

Chamisa Ready To Pull Out 103 Representatives From Parly And Senate

The Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) was on Monday discussing a full withdrawal of MPs and Senators from parliament after 15 lawmakers were controversially recalled.

Speaker of Parliament Jacob Mudenda wrote to the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) announcing the vacancies on the basis of a letter by Sengezo Tshabangu, who has styled himself as the CCC’s interim secretary general.

Tshabangu told Mudenda that the 15 – of whom 14 are from Bulawayo and the two Matabeleland provinces – had ceased to be members of the CCC and were therefore being recalled.

One of the recalled MPs Prince Dubeko Sibanda said: “On October 1, 2020, they recalled me for ceasing to be a member of the MDC-A, which I won under in 2018. We left it and formed CCC. I won by-elections on March 26, 2022, under CCC. I did so again on in the general elections on August 23, 2023. Today, they recalled us again. It’s time for a revolution.”

All the 15 representatives have gone to court seeking an order declaring that Tshabangu has no legal standing to recall them, and that they should remain in parliament. The party has described him as an “impostor.”

The affected MPs are Pashor Raphael Sibanda (Cowdray Park); Ereck Gono (Lobengula-Magwegwe); Nicola June Watson (Bulawayo South); Desmond Makaza (Mpopoma-Mzilikazi); Obert Manduna (Nketa); Sitabile Mlilo (Proportional Representation); Jasmine Toffa (Proportional Representation); Janet Dube (Proportional Representation); Evidence Zana (Youth Quota); Morgan Ncube (Beitbridge West); Nomathemba Sibanda (Proportional Representation); Velisiwe Nkomo (Proportional Representation); Prince Dubeko Sibanda (Binga North); Bright Moyo Vanya (Lupane East) and Febion Munyaradzi (Mabvuku-Tafara).

Separately, CCC leader Nelson Chamisa is ready to withdraw all his party’s elected representatives in protest at the latest developments, a CCC insider said.

Calls for street protests will grow but Chamisa has shown some reluctance to lead marches, publicly stating that he does not want to “step on the skeletons of Zimbabweans to reach State House” – a show of concern over the violent response expected from President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s regime.

Chamisa had earlier written to Mudenda, who received Tshabangu’s letter on October 3, urging him to ignore the former MDC-T Matabeleland North chairman.

“As at present, none of the Members of Parliament who were elected under the CCC have been expelled from the party I lead or recalled from the National Assembly, or for that matter, from any elected position in the Senate or any local council,” Chamisa wrote.

Tshabangu has also written to local government minister Winston Chitando naming 17 councillors, 12 of them from Bulawayo, that he says have ceased to be members of the CCC. Two of the councillors are from Matabeleland South, one from Matabeleland North, one from Epworth in Harare and Masvingo’s first female mayor Shantel Chiwara.

The CCC has no formal membership and no leadership structure in place except for its leader and appointed spokespersons, a loophole which Tshabangu appears to have used to claim a powerful position for himself after submitting a purported CCC constitution to Mudenda. He previously used the same tactic with ZEC to cause the double nomination of CCC candidates in August’s polls.

If the courts rule in favour of Tshabangu in the fight, it opens the possibility that he can expel Chamisa from the party he founded in March 2022 and grab all funding due to the party under the Political Parties (Finances) Act. Zanu-PF, meanwhile, will be eyeing by-elections that could follow with a target of winning 10 seats which would give if a two thirds majority in parliament, allowing it to amend the constitution.

The recalls are “a festival of illegalities and a carnival of absurdities,” said political analyst Brian Kagoro.

Exiled former foreign affairs minister Walter Mzembi said “it will take more than elections” to bring change in Zimbabwe, adding that the CCC’s decision to go to court was a “kindergarten response” and a sign that the party was “failing to read the mood.”

“We will defend our right to vote, our freedom to choose, our constitution and our democracy with everything that we have got. It cannot and will not be business as usual,” CCC spokesman Promise Mkwananzi said in a statement.

“There comes a time where one has to draw a line in the sand, stand up and defend their dignity. Such a time has come. The people of Zimbabwe must and will take a stand. Otherwise there would be no point in voting only for the regime to remove elected officials.”

The recalls come after disputed general elections on August 23 when Mnangagwa claimed a slim majority. Regional and international election observers condemned the poll as a sham and Chamisa has been demanding fresh elections supervised by the United Nations.

“Zim enjoying peace”: ED

President Mnangagwa delivered a reassuring message to the nation, affirming that Zimbabwe will continue to bask in the current peaceful and harmonious environment, a result of the recent credible and tranquil harmonized elections.

The harmonized elections that took place on August 23/24 marked a significant achievement in Zimbabwe’s democratic progress. These elections afforded citizens the opportunity to exercise their democratic right, contributing to the strengthening of democratic institutions within the nation.

President Mnangagwa secured victory in the Presidential election with 2,350,711 votes, representing 52.6 percent of the total vote, surpassing his closest rival, CCC’s Mr. Nelson Chamisa, who obtained 1,967,343 votes, equivalent to 44 percent.

Speaking to delegates at the 9th CEO Africa Roundtable conference in Victoria Falls, President Mnangagwa emphasized that the gathering coincided with the successful and credible conduct of the general elections on August 23 and 24.

He celebrated the peaceful atmosphere that prevailed during the electoral cycle, underscoring that this state of affairs disappointed detractors who had anticipated unrest.

“The country is enjoying peace across the board. We have been experiencing peace for a long time in our recent history. We are going through peaceful processes, and I can assure you that we will continue to preach peace, love, harmony, and unity among our people,” President Mnangagwa affirmed.

He noted that the 9th CEO Africa Roundtable conference convened in the aftermath of the successful, free, and fair harmonized general elections, which had defied the expectations of those who had not foreseen a peaceful outcome.

President Mnangagwa has consistently encouraged Zimbabweans to uphold peace and unity, emphasizing that despite the changing political landscape through elections, citizens remain an integral part of the nation.

Throughout the election period, President Mnangagwa advocated for non-violence and unity among the Zimbabwean people.

Since taking office in 2017, he has called for a peaceful coexistence and established the Political Actors Dialogue platform, extending an open invitation to opposition parties to engage in a dialogue for the sake of national unity.

This door to dialogue remains open, underlining his commitment to unity among Zimbabweans, regardless of their political affiliations.

In President Mnangagwa’s vision of a developed Zimbabwe by 2030, peace and unity are fundamental prerequisites, essential for achieving the nation’s objectives.

The nation is currently experiencing economic growth, with prospects indicating that the country is on course to realize its 2030 vision, driven by the prevailing peace and unity.

The rapid industrialization and modernization of Zimbabwe are driven by its people who harness their talents to construct infrastructure such as roads and dams, contributing to the country’s advancement.

ED warms up to calls for dialogue

By A Correspondent- President Mnangagwa has extended an invitation for dialogue to CCC leader Mr. Nelson Chamisa and is open to engaging in discussions. However, Zanu-PF Secretary for Information and Publicity, Christopher Mutsvangwa, stressed that this dialogue should not be used as a means to outmaneuver political rivals.

The offer for dialogue comes in the wake of CCC’s interim secretary-general, Mr. Sengezo Tshabangu, recalling 15 CCC Members of Parliament (MPs) and 17 councillors, alleging that they were no longer members of the opposition party.

During a press briefing held at the party headquarters in Harare, Mutsvangwa asserted that President Mnangagwa is committed to transparent dialogue. He emphasized that CCC leader Mr. Chamisa should avoid using this platform to settle scores and gain an advantage over his rivals within the CCC.

Mutsvangwa pointed out that Mr. Chamisa faces strong competition for power within his party, with contenders emerging from all provinces and ranks. Attempting to outmaneuver rivals within the CCC through dialogue with President Mnangagwa is not conducive to productive bilateral party engagement and could introduce chaos into both Zanu-PF and national politics.

Zanu-PF advocates for an open and transparent democracy, where everyone can witness proceedings and hold leaders accountable. Mutsvangwa stressed that engaging in conspiratorial tactics that sideline fellow Zimbabweans with equal standing in the political landscape would lead to national disunity and disaster. Such practices are not present within Zanu-PF.

Mutsvangwa highlighted the importance of transparently addressing all issues on the table so that it is clear to all, including MDC-T’s Douglas Mwonzora, CCC’s vice presidents Tendai Biti and Professor Welshman Ncube, and Chalton Hwende, among others. This approach ensures public buy-in and accountability in the democratic process, which aligns with President Mnangagwa’s goals. In contrast, Chamisa appears to favor a more conspiratorial approach, which is not acceptable to President Mnangagwa.

Mutsvangwa confirmed that Mr. Chamisa has dispatched representatives to Zanu-PF to seek dialogue. President Mnangagwa received these envoys and designated his own representatives for interactions. However, Mr. Chamisa seems hesitant to allow figures like Ncube, Biti, and Hwende to be informed about these engagements, opting for a less transparent approach.

On Wednesday, Mr. Chamisa acknowledged sending emissaries to President Mnangagwa.

Police Vow To Thwart Demonstrations

THE Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has pledged to remain vigilant in dealing with elements bent on derailing the country’s progress.

I want also to commend the Police for exposing fake abductions in our country,” he said.

The five-day conference, being attended by ZRP senior officers drawn from the country’s ten provinces, also noted the need for law enforcement agents to deal decisively with drug and substance abuse which is threatening national character.

Girl(14) In Trouble For Abusing Siblings

A 14-year-old girl from Harare’s Glen View suburb, who was convicted of aggravated indecent assault after sexually abusing two brothers aged eight and six has been slapped with a three-year jail term.

The three-year jail term was however wholly suspended for five years on condition she does not commit a similar offense during that period.

The magistrate noted that although the offense is serious, the girl is also a child hence the need to keep her out of jail.

The victims were co-tenants with the 14-year-old girl who sexually abused them when she was taking care of two children.

Meanwhile, three suspected poachers Taylor Kurehwatira aged 73, Josephine Jiri (70) and Elector Kufandirori (39), who were allegedly found in possession of a leopard skin worth 20 thousand United States dollars and a pangolin trophy valued at US$5 000 have been arrested for contravening the Wildlife Act.

The trio was arrested while allegedly attempting to sell the leopard skin and pangolin trophy.

They were advised to apply for bail at the High Court after appearing at the magistrates court this Wednesday.

Still, at the courts, two suspected armed robbers who are accused of fatally assaulting another man along Harare Bulawayo Highway before robbing him have appeared in court facing charges of murder.

Tafadzwa Chayambuka and Simon Chihungwe are also facing charges of attempted murder after allegedly assaulting another victim they robbed of cash.

Gweru No-Traffic-Lights for 10 Years Cause Of Chinese Tender War

The city of Gweru has faced a dire situation with malfunctioning traffic lights that has persisted for over a decade. This long-standing issue has resulted in frequent traffic accidents and congestion in the Central Business District (CBD). The problem arose when Chinese contractor Emobuild installed solar-powered traffic lights that eventually became dysfunctional.

Gweru City had paid $360,000 out of the agreed $500,000 to Emobuild, who, in turn, refused to take responsibility for the malfunctioning lights. This dispute led to nearly a decade of arbitration between the city and the contractor. However, this protracted legal battle has now concluded, and the city has embarked on the rehabilitation of the traffic lights. The rehabilitation efforts are expected to be completed before the end of the year.

The situation had been a source of frustration for residents, who often had to contend with the absence of functional traffic lights, leading to traffic problems and accidents. Gweru Residents and Ratepayers Association (GRRA) director, Conilia Selipiwe, expressed relief that the matter has been resolved and commended the city’s initiative to repair the traffic lights.

In addition to addressing the traffic light issue, the local authority has also initiated drainage clearance in all wards to minimize flooding during the rainy season. This ongoing program is being intensified in preparation for the rains. The local authority urges residents not to obstruct drainages, as they play a crucial role in preventing flooding during the rainy season.- Mirror

President Chamisa Dismisses Tshabangu Hype

Tinashe Sambiri

CCC leader President Nelson Chamisa has responded to one Sengezo Tshabangu’s shenanigans.

In a strong statement on Tuesday President Chamisa condemned Zanu PF barbarism.

He added:

“ZIMBABWE IS IN A DEEP POLITICAL CRISIS AS A RESULT OF A FLAWED AND DISPUTED ELECTION…

Opposition Mayor Jailed Over USD90K While Mupfumira ScotFree On USD90mln Loot

Double Standards in Corruption Cases: Victoria Falls Mayor Convicted While ZANU PF Official Evades Justice.

By Agencies- Former Victoria Falls Mayor Somveli Dlamini has been found guilty of fraud charges and remanded in custody for sentencing, raising questions about the fairness and consistency of the Zimbabwean justice system. Dlamini, who lost his bid for Member of Parliament but had been on $50,000 bail, was denied freedom by Hwange regional magistrate Mr Mark Dzira, who cited concerns that he might interfere with evidence.

Dlamini’s conviction relates to a fraud case involving a commercial stand valued at over USD 90,000, where he allegedly misrepresented his identity to the Victoria Falls City Council in order to obtain the property. He pretended to be Valentine Munyaradzi Maseko, despite having previously benefited from a land scheme, which contravened government directives.

According to the prosecution, Dlamini was supposed to pay a deposit of USD 25,000 for the stand, but he only paid USD 10,000, leaving a substantial balance. To cover the outstanding amount, he transferred ZW$7.5 million through a bank transfer. The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) uncovered this anomaly while investigating corruption suspicions in the city, resulting in Dlamini’s arrest. The local authority suffered a direct financial loss of USD 15,000, with a potential prejudice of USD 66,462.

While Dlamini’s conviction and impending sentencing have raised concerns about the justice system’s transparency, it is equally notable that high-profile cases of alleged corruption involving members of the ruling party, ZANU PF, have not seen similar outcomes. One glaring example is that of Pilrisca Mupfumira, a ZANU PF official, who is accused of a massive USD 95,000,000 fraud case. Astonishingly, she continues to evade justice despite the gravity of her alleged offenses.

This stark disparity in the treatment of corruption cases between opposition figures like Dlamini and powerful ZANU PF officials like Mupfumira has drawn criticism, with many questioning the impartiality of Zimbabwe’s legal system. It is a matter of grave concern that these inconsistencies in justice only serve to undermine public trust and raise doubts about the credibility of anti-corruption efforts in the country.

The Dlamini case, alongside the glaring contrast in how corruption allegations are addressed in Zimbabwe, highlights the urgent need for impartiality and fairness in the country’s legal system. Without consistent and equitable justice, suspicions of political bias and double standards are likely to persist, eroding public confidence in the rule of law.

Mnangagwa Says Bond Note Bouncing Back

Mnangagwa Announces Return to Local Currency Amid Election Rigging Controversy

In a significant development, President Emmerson Mnangagwa of Zimbabwe has declared that the country will soon return to using its local currency, the condemned bond note dollar, as the sole legal tender. This announcement comes at a time when a documentary video has emerged, featuring his Kenyan business partner, Kamlesh Pattni, revealing ongoing election rigging operations in Zimbabwe, mirroring tactics he used in Kenya in the 1990s.

Pattni’s alleged election rigging method involves siphoning central bank gold and money, which weakens the currency and subjects citizens to the local currency. This revelation has raised concerns about the country’s currency stability and political integrity.

The President’s statement was reported in a state media article, in which he emphasized the need for Zimbabwe to have its own currency, citing it as essential for sustainable economic growth and development. Currently, Zimbabwe operates under a multi-currency regime, allowing the use of foreign currencies such as the US dollar and South African Rand. This arrangement is guaranteed until December 2025 under Statutory Instrument (SI) 118A of 2022.

During the swearing-in ceremony for his second term, President Mnangagwa expressed his commitment to entrenching the use of the local currency. He stated that a single currency is essential for the nation’s growth, responding to concerns raised about the expiration of the multi-currency regime in 2025.

President Mnangagwa acknowledged the 2009 decision to adopt a basket of currencies, which saved the economy from a domestic currency collapse. However, he stressed the importance of having a single, national currency for sustainable growth.

While the local currency has faced challenges, including value depreciation and public preference for foreign currencies, the government has assured the market of continued usage and efforts to strengthen its value, ultimately supporting economic recovery.

Zimbabwe’s reliance on foreign currencies in its monetary system has been blamed for the volatility of the domestic unit. A broader use of local currency can enhance the nation’s economic autonomy and sovereignty, allowing for more control over monetary policy and economic interests.

During the recent Zimbabwe Economic Development Conference (ZEDCON), stakeholders urged the government to provide a clear currency reform roadmap, especially as the 2025 deadline for the multi-currency regime’s expiration approaches. This uncertainty in the financial sector has led to hesitation in extending long-term foreign currency loans.

The move back to the local currency is expected to be a significant step for Zimbabwe, albeit with potential challenges and uncertainties, as the nation seeks to regain control over its economic policies and strengthen its economic recovery.- state media

Tshabangu Fires More Warning Gun-Shots, Says More MPs Face Expulsion

By- Fake Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) secretary general, Mr Sengezo Tshabangu has threatened to fire more MPS he says are abusing their proximity to the party leader Nelson Chamisa.”

Mr Tshabangu, who says he is the party’s acting secretary general, speaking through his spokesperson Mr Khaliphani Phugeni said the whole recall process was meant to cleanse the opposition party of individuals who are going against the ethos and values of the party. He said the process is never targeted at eventually removing Mr Chamisa from the leadership position, a gospel being pushed by those opposed to the recalls.
On Monday, Speaker of Parliament Advocate Jacob Mudenda wrote to the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission’s chief elections officer, advising that in terms of Section 39 (1) of the Electoral Act (Chapter 2:13) vacancies had arisen in parliament after 15 opposition members ceased to be CCC party members on October 4.
This followed a letter to Adv Mudenda by Mr Tshabangu advising that the 15 national assembly members and 17 councillors had ceased to be party members. The 15 recalled national assembly representatives are, Mr Ereck Gono (Lobengula-Magwegwe), Mr Nicola Watson (Bulawayo South), Mr Prince Dubeko Sibanda (Binga North), Mr Bright Vanya (Lupane), Mr Desmond Makaza (Mpopoma-Mzilikazi), Mr Obert Manduna (Nketa), Mr Morgan Ncube (Beitbridge West), Mr Pastor Raphael Sibanda (Cowdray Park), Mr Febian Kufahakutizwi (Mabvuku-Tafara)
Mr Evidence Zana (Youth Representation), Ms Janeth Dube, Ms Sitabile Mlilo, Ms Nomathemba Sibanda, Ms Jasmine Toffa and Ms Velisizwe Nkomo (all Proportional Representation).
Mr Phugeni said they were seized with presentations from different parts of the country where people are expressing their unhappiness over self-imposed candidates.
“We are getting a lot of presentations from different parts of the entire country, people are not happy about persons who either imposed themselves by name dropping or abuse. Others went as far as faking conversations where they created false impressions that they are in charge just by some social media conversations with president Chamisa and that he has ordered that so and so must go and contest here and there, so those are all the issues that we are attending to. If there is a veracity to any of those claims, then yes indeed you can expect more action,” said Mr Phugeni.
Asked in what capacity was Mr Tshabangu making the recalls since the party had no structures, Mr Phugeni said the actions were being taken by an interim secretary general, in the same manner that Mr Chamisa in his capacity as the party interim president, has been.
He said there is no dispute that there are no structures as yet in the CCC.
MR Khaliphani Phugeni
“As has been made clear that the office is that of the interim secretary general, there is no dispute that there are no structures as yet but just as much as we do have the office of the interim leader right now in the form of our president, the change champion in chief, there is the office of the interim secretary general to do the day to day communications and administration of the party and it is in that capacity that we have acted, having travelled throughout the country where we met party cadres and this is their decision by the way that the party can not afford to veer off the correct path. If we are going to democratise Zimbabwe, we must start within ourselves and we frown upon imposition issues. Undermining local people who must have a right to choose their representatives must not be allowed, no amount of manipulation will be tolerated,” said Mr Phugeni.
Mr Phugeni rubbished insinuations that the real target in all this was Mr Chamisa, with the plan being to recall him and then call for an elective congress before the end of the year.
“This(recall of Mr Chamisa) is all meant to create a wedge between the president and the acting secretary general. There is no intention whatsoever, the president is not the target of this action. We even believe that he is the right person to lead us, in line with our founding values, principles, character and nature. Of course, those who want to survive by name-dropping, abusing access and proximity to him would want to characterize this citizens’ backed action as a target on his back., not at all, the president is very safe. This move, if anything, strengthens the party, its office bearers and in the long run as people will see it will put the president in good light and standing before the community and in line with the objectives of the citizens’ movement,” said Mr Phugeni.

Zanu PF Speaks On Chamisa MPs Recalls

By- A senior Zanu PF official and Justice Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi said the Government would regulate political parties in light of the opposition-triggered recalls in Parliament, which have proved to be costly on the economy as they are draining the fiscus.

This comes in the wake of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) recall of Members of Parliament barely two weeks after the opening of Parliament by President Mnangagwa.

CCC interim secretary general Mr recalled 15 National Assembly members and nine Senators as chaos continues to unfold in the beleaguered opposition party.

While there are contestations within the opposition following the latest wave of recalls, it appears for the past 10 years, the recalling of MPs and councillors has become the norm post-elections.

Following the 2013 elections, MDC-T recalled 21 MPs including Mr Tendai Biti after a group of legislators had called for leadership renewal within the party.

At the time the late Mr Morgan Tsvangirai was at the helm of the MDC-T.

In the post-2018 elections, the MDC Alliance was also rocked by another wave of recalls after Dr Thokozani Khupe assumed leadership of the opposition party before Mr Douglas Mwonzora took over its reins.

The main opposition now rebranded CCC led by Mr Nelson Chamisa is back to its default settings of recalling members claiming they no longer belong to the organisation.

Issues to do with the imposition of candidates and failure to have internal structures to address concerns are being attributed to divisions within the party.

Addressing the media in Harare yesterday, Mr Chamisa seemed to shift blame from his party, ordering elected CCC MPs and councillors not to perform their constitutional mandate.

In an interview yesterday, Minister Ziyambi said the recalls are a strain on the Treasury as the Government is forced to divert funds towards financing by-elections instead of forging ahead with development.

“The Constitution and the Electoral Act state that when a vacancy occurs within 90 days we must go for an election. And when we go for an election, the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission must deploy people to do all the necessary preparations and this is an unnecessary expenditure that has to be borne by the taxpayers” he said.

“That money could have been used for development projects.”

Minister Ziyambi said out of the 15 legislators who have been recalled, 12 of them have constituencies, which effectively calls for by-elections in the affected areas.

“We could put this money to good use such as improving the road to Victoria Falls and paying our contractor. We now have to satisfy the constitutional requirements which require that we conduct by-elections within 90 days and mind you we are just coming from another election,” he said.

Minister Ziyambi said to address some of the pitfalls that the opposition has brought, the country should start a conversation on regulating political parties.

Political parties are not regulated in the country and they just need to notify the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission of their intention to contest.

“I think going forward we need to have a discussion, conversations in ensuring that political parties are registered. They deposit their constitution and show that they are organised. The situation that obtains now is that we have had political parties that would just sprout towards elections,” said Minister Ziyambi.

“You have a coalition of individuals with no structure that is recognised and soon after elections they start fighting. You can’t tell who is who, and perhaps what needs to be discussed is that let us have proper political party registration so that all those parties without structures will not be able to contest.”

Political analyst Mr Methuseli Moyo said while the recalls are costly to the economy, they are a testimony that the opposition has not taken notes from its past mistakes.

“The opposition does not seem to learn from history. Once more, they are at each other’s throats. Consequently, there might soon be by-elections, and this is an expense,” he said.

“From the opposition side, the by-elections may prove costly as some of the recalled MPs may lose the by-elections.”

Mr Moyo said Mr Chamisa’s decision directing elected CCC officials to stop executing their roles shows his selfish endeavours.

He said the opposition should engage its members as opposed to posturing and bickering.

“He must engage Tshabangu and others and rectify the issues that are the source of the conflict. The infighting in the CCC is of no governance matter, but structures in the party. Mr Chamisa must stop bullying fellow leaders and penalising the party,” said Mr Moyo.

Constitutional lawyer Professor Lovemore Madhuku said in his view, the Constitutional provision allowing political parties to recall members is what is flawed.

“The clause that parties can recall members must be removed from the Constitution. MPs are elected by the people and then recalled by the parties. So the problem is not within opposition parties, but the Constitution and that clause should be removed.” Herald

Zim Population In SA Surpasses 1 Million

By- The number of Zimbabweans now living in South Africa has surpassed 1 million, as revealed in the 2022 South Africa Census.

The authority also said this figure constitutes 45% of foreign nationals in Mzansi.

Stats SA said everyone in South Africa, including foreign nationals, was accounted for in the February 2022 Census.

The recent report indicates a modest rise in the population of individuals born outside of South Africa.

The data reveals that the majority of these foreign nationals are male young adults, aged between 20-44.

A significant portion of them come from five countries: Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Lesotho, Malawi, and the United Kingdom (UK). Notably, these countries have retained their rankings since the 2011 Census.

Breakdown of foreign nationals in the 2022 Census:

– Zimbabwe: 1.012 million (45%)

– Mozambique: 416,564 (18.7%)

– Lesotho: 227,770 (10.2%)

– Malawi: 198,807 (8.9%)

– UK: 61,282 (2.8%)

Addressing the complexities of documented versus undocumented immigrants, Calvin Molongoana, the Census project director at Stats SA, emphasised that every individual present in South Africa in February of the previous year was included in the count.

This encompasses tourists and those in transit. “Anyone within the country’s borders, regardless of their legal status, documented or undocumented, was counted,” Molongoana stated.

However, he clarified that members of the diplomatic corps and other diplomatic officials were excluded, as they are recorded by their respective nations.

On the topic of migration patterns, Statistician-General Risenga Maluleke highlighted that the Western Cape, Northern Cape, North West, Gauteng, and Mpumalanga provinces experienced “positive net-migration.”

This indicates that these provinces saw more incoming migration than outgoing. Conversely, Limpopo recorded the highest negative net-migration, closely followed by the Eastern Cape.

In terms of “lifetime in-migration” – where individuals have remained in a province since birth – Gauteng emerged at the forefront with 5.18 million people. The Western Cape followed with 2.04 million residents.

CCC Rebel Threatens To Fire More Chamisa MPs

By- Self-imposed Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) secretary general, Mr Sengezo Tshabangu says he can’t rule out more recalls as he targets getting rid of what he says are *people abusing their proximity to the party leader Mr Nelson Chamisa.”

Mystery USD400,000 Cash Payment for House To Judge Under Investigation

By A Correspondent | ZimEye | Justice Webster Chinhamora, currently under investigation by a tribunal for alleged misconduct, has received a significant cash payment of USD 400,000 for a house purchase. This surprising development has raised questions about the prioritization of junior judges over more senior members of the judiciary.

Justice Chinhamora’s receipt of this substantial sum has sparked public outrage, particularly due to the fact that he is considered a junior judge in comparison to the heads of departments within the judicial system. The decision to fast-track this payment ahead of more senior judges’ privileges has left many in the legal community and the public demanding answers.

The circumstances surrounding this payment remain shrouded in mystery, and concerns are mounting regarding potential impropriety or favoritism. The timing of this financial transaction, while Justice Chinhamora faces a tribunal for alleged misconduct, has only deepened the intrigue and cast a shadow of suspicion over the judiciary’s integrity.

The public call for transparency and accountability has heightened, as the judiciary grapples with a crisis that threatens to erode trust in the legal system. Investigations into this unusual payment are expected to intensify, with calls for an immediate explanation from judicial authorities as to why a junior judge has been granted such a substantial privilege ahead of his more senior colleagues.

The complaint against Justice Chinhamora was initiated by Advocate Thabani Mpofu and pertains to a series of allegations, including conflict of interest, judicial misconduct, bribery, and various forms of corruption. These allegations have cast a dark shadow over the judge’s tenure, prompting the establishment of a panel by the JSC to review the complaints. The panel, consisting of judges Anne-Marie Gowora, Alfas Chitakunye, and Custom Kachambwa, concluded that Chinhamora indeed has a case to answer.

The specific complaint that initiated this investigation was lodged by another attorney, Advocate Taona Nyamakura. It centers around alleged conflict of interest in a legal dispute involving Zimbabwe’s Delta Beverages (Pvt) Ltd, Schweppes Zimbabwe Ltd, and Blakey Plastics (Pty) Ltd, a South African company.

Justice Chinhamora’s case now hinges on constitutional provisions. According to section 187 of the constitution, a judge can only be removed from office for reasons such as the inability to perform the functions of the office due to mental or physical incapacity, gross incompetence, or gross misconduct.

Sub-section 3 of this constitutional provision mandates that if the JSC advises the President to investigate the removal of any judge, a tribunal must be appointed. This tribunal, in accordance with sub-section 4, must consist of at least three members, with specific qualifications and experience.

The tribunal’s responsibility is to inquire into the matter and subsequently report its findings to the President, along with a recommendation on whether or not the judge should be removed from office.

With these developments unfolding, the situation remains fluid and fraught with legal and ethical complexities. The timing of the $400,000 payment, coupled with Justice Chinhamora’s active lobbying for his position, adds layers of intrigue to an already contentious matter, casting a long shadow over the judicial system’s credibility. Investigations and legal proceedings are expected to intensify in the coming days as Zimbabwe’s legal community and the public closely watch these significant developments.

The Judicial Services Commission Secretary Walter Chikwanha was unavailable to comment at the time of writing.

Trial Exposes Legal Shortcomings As Mutoriro Is Not Classified As A Dangerous Drug

By A Correspondent| The trial of two Harare men accused of dealing in dangerous drugs has exposed the shortcomings of the law as it does not classify crystal meth better known as mutoriro as a dangerous drug.

Prince Samuriwo and Humphrey Banda were arrested and charged with dealing in dangerous drugs and unlawful possession of dangerous drugs involving 83 grams of crystal meth.

The two represented by Admire Rubaya and Malvin Mapako appeared before the Harare Magistrates Court where they denied the allegations.

The duo’s lawyers argued that there is no such thing as crystal meth in the Dangerous Drugs Act and that the arrest of their clients was illegal.

Rubaya and Mapako also argued that their client’s prosecution was contrary to law.

“The state alleges that crystal methamphetamine that the accused was allegedly found in possession of is a dangerous drug yet there is no such drug listed in the relevant schedule to the Dangerous Drugs Act [Chapter 15:02],” Samuriwo’s lawyer Rubaya argued.

Rubaya accused the state of using public outcry or political interference to arrest people.

“A drug does not become a dangerous drug simply because the general populace, the State and or politicians wants it to be treated as a dangerous drug whose alleged possession is punishable in terms of the criminal law.

“It is not the general unhappiness of the law enforcement agencies, politicians or the society at large that proscribe possession of or dealing in crystal methamphetamine but positive legislative enactment.

“In the absence of crystal methamphetamine being listed as a dangerous drug in the schedule, no offence can arise in relation to anyone alleged to have been found in possession of crystal methamphetamine in Zimbabwe,” they argued.

The defence told the court that the only drug which shares a resemblance with crystal methamphetamine is the methylenedioxymethamphetamine but the two are different hence one cannot be charged under that.

“The Dangerous drugs Act does not indicate that methylenedioxymethamphetamine is also known as crystal methamphetamine. Scientifically, the lawyers argued, methylenedioxymethamphetamine and methamphetamine are also different.

“Methylenedioxymethamphetamine and methamphetamine might be belonging to the family of drugs called phenethylamines and under the generic name amphetamines but these drugs are different drugs.”

The two have divergent effects and produce differing neurochemical and behavioural responses in human beings.

“The two drugs have different molecular structures, have different scientific names. Methamphetamine is also known as Nadimethylphenethylamine whilst Methylenedioxymethamphetamine is known scientifically as Nadimethylmethylenedioxyphenethylamine. Therefore, these two drugs are scientifically different,” he argued.

The lawyers are pushing for the freedom of their clients stating that if the State cannot proffer evidence that crystal methamphetamine is a dangerous drug in terms of the Dangerous Drugs Act then there is no offence created.

“It is submitted that if crystal meth is not a scheduled drug, then the conduct forming the basis of the charge being preferred against the accused person is not recognised in our law as a crime.

“Therefore, the Accused’s alleged type of conduct being allegedly found with sachets of crystal meth is not proscribed by the law in Zimbabwe.”

Therefore, once the court finds that crystal meth is not a scheduled drug in terms of the Dangerous Drugs Act, then the Accused cannot possibly be placed on remand nor convicted of conduct which is not recognised by the Zimbabwe law as a crime.

“On that score this court has no legal basis to convict an accused person because what is being alleged by the State is not an offence. There is need for an express designation of crystal methamphetamine as a dangerous drug in terms of the relevant Acts of parliament,” Rubaya argued.

During cross examination, one of the witnesses Shelton Gambiza, an officer from Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission conceded that crystal meth was not listed as a dangerous drug on the schedule to the Dangerous Drugs Act.

Asked on the scientific nature of the drug, Gambiza referred everything to the expert police officer who was allegedly enlisted to scientifically examine the alleged recovered drugs.

The defence said it is the State’s duty to specify crystal meth as a dangerous drug failure of which the law as it currently stands does not create a crime from the alleged possession of crystal meth or any dealings in crystal meth.

“Had the legislature intended to designate crystal methamphetamine as a dangerous drug in terms of the law at the time of drafting, they would have done so expressly. In any event section 14 of the dangerous drugs Act could have been used.”

The lawyers further argued that the court has no legislative powers and it cannot read crystal methamphetamine into the definition in the statute and they asserted that the court’s role was simply to speak the law as it is provided for in the statute not to usurp the role of the legislature to make the law.

The matter was then postponed to November 21 for trial continuation.

Africa’s Thriving Landscape: The Interplay of Zimbabwe’s Gaming Surge and Global Gaming Innovations

Africa’s vibrant tapestry is undergoing a significant metamorphosis. Emerging from the shadows of historical economic challenges, Africa is dynamically integrating itself into the global economy. Zimbabwe’s ascendance in the gaming sphere, and games like Aviator demo slot  that bind players across continents, are emblematic of Africa’s broader trajectory towards a technological and economic renaissance.

In recent years, the African continent has showcased significant growth and development in its economic landscape. Several nations have emerged as pivotal players, each contributing in its unique way to the broader African economic narrative.

Established Giants

  1. Nigeria: As one of the largest economies in Africa, Nigeria boasts a diversified economic base, driven largely by oil and natural gas. Beyond its energy sector, Nigeria has a rapidly growing IT industry and a burgeoning entertainment sector, particularly Nollywood, which has garnered international recognition.

  2. Kenya: Located in East Africa, Kenya has long been recognized for its robust agricultural sector, particularly tea and coffee production. However, in recent years, it has also seen significant strides in its technology and service industries. The rise of mobile banking, particularly M-Pesa, is a testament to its innovative spirit.

  3. South Africa: Renowned for its minerals and mining sector, South Africa remains an influential player in the global market. Its diverse economy also spans sectors like manufacturing, tourism, and finance. Johannesburg, its major city, is a bustling economic hub, playing a crucial role in both continental and global financial landscapes.

Emerging Economies Showing Promise

Crafting a Sustainable Blueprint: Africa’s Vision for the Future

In recent years, Africa has been at the forefront of shaping a sustainable and resilient future, considering both the planet’s well-being and its socio-economic progression. As the second-largest and second most-populous continent, Africa’s decisions are of paramount importance on the global stage. Here’s an in-depth look at the continent’s vision:

Green Ambitions

African Renewable Energy Initiative (AREI): This flagship program underlines Africa’s commitment to increasing the use of renewable energy sources. The AREI aims to achieve universal access to sustainable energy services by 2030, particularly for rural areas that currently lack such provisions.

This includes harnessing abundant resources like solar, wind, and hydropower. The initiative also seeks to generate at least 300 GW of renewable energy by 2030, which is a tenfold increase from current capacities. By fostering these projects, Africa positions itself as a key player in the global mission to combat climate change while ensuring energy security for its people.

Investing in the Youth

Prioritizing Education: Understanding the power of knowledge, African nations are heavily investing in their educational infrastructures. This includes establishing state-of-the-art institutions, research facilities, and collaborating with international educational bodies to raise standards and curricula.

Skill Development and Vocational Training: Recognizing that not all youth will follow traditional academic paths, there’s an emphasis on vocational training. By equipping young Africans with skills in areas such as technology, crafts, agriculture, and entrepreneurship, the continent ensures its youth have diverse avenues to contribute to its growth.

Seamless Trade Endeavours

African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA): One of the most ambitious projects in recent history, the AfCFTA seeks to create a single market for goods and services across 54 African countries. By eliminating tariffs on 90% of goods and liberalizing trade in services, it’s estimated that intra-African trade could increase by over 50% by 2040.

This has the potential to create a combined GDP of over $3 trillion, presenting an attractive prospect for global investors. Moreover, by enhancing trade relations within the continent, Africa aims to reduce its dependence on external markets and build a resilient, self-sustaining economy.

Conclusion

The narrative unfolding in Africa is inspiring. As Zimbabwe spearheads gaming innovations and global phenomena like complete review of Aviator Game by Spribe create ripples, it’s evident that Africa is not just participating in the global economy; it’s shaping it. With strategic investments in infrastructure, education, and sustainability, the continent’s future is not just promising; it’s luminous.

Tshabangu mulls more recalls

Sengezo Tshabangu, the alleged mastermind behind the recalls of 15 CCC National Assembly representatives, has expressed the possibility of more recalls targeting individuals he believes are misusing their proximity to party leader Nelson Chamisa.

Tshabangu, claiming to be the party’s acting secretary general, stated through his spokesperson Mr Khaliphani Phugeni that the recall process aims to remove individuals who go against the party’s values, denying any intention to remove Chamisa from his leadership position.

The Speaker of Parliament, Jacob Mudenda, informed the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) of the vacancies created by the cessation of CCC party membership by the 15 opposition members. Tshabangu had previously written to Mudenda, notifying him of the party members’ disassociation.

The 15 recalled national assembly representatives are, Mr Ereck Gono (Lobengula-Magwegwe), Mr Nicola Watson (Bulawayo South), Mr Prince Dubeko Sibanda (Binga North), Mr Bright Vanya (Lupane), Mr Desmond Makaza (Mpopoma-Mzilikazi), Mr Obert Manduna (Nketa), Mr Morgan Ncube (Beitbridge West), Mr Pastor Raphael Sibanda (Cowdray Park), Mr Febian Kufahakutizwi (Mabvuku-Tafara), Mr Evidence Zana (Youth Representation), Ms Janeth Dube, Ms Sitabile Mlilo, Ms Nomathemba Sibanda, Ms Jasmine Toffa and Ms Velisizwe Nkomo (all Proportional Representation).

According to Mr. Phugeni, they have received numerous complaints from people across the country expressing dissatisfaction with self-imposed candidates. He told the Chronicle:

We are getting a lot of presentations from different parts of the entire country, people are not happy about persons who either imposed themselves by name dropping or abuse.

Others went as far as faking conversations where they created false impressions that they are in charge just by some social media conversations with President Chamisa and that he has ordered that so and so must go and contest here and there, so those are all the issues that we are attending to. If there is a veracity to any of those claims, then yes indeed you can expect more action.

When questioned about Tshabangu’s authority to make the recalls in the absence of party structures, Phugeni said the actions were being carried out by an interim secretary general, similar to how Chamisa, as the interim president, has been functioning. He said:

As has been made clear that the office is that of the interim secretary general, there is no dispute that there are no structures as yet but just as much as we do have the office of the interim leader right now in the form of our president, the change champion in chief, there is the office of the interim secretary general to do the day to day communications and administration of the party and it is in that capacity that we have acted, having travelled throughout the country where we met party cadres and this is their decision by the way that the party can not afford to veer off the correct path.

If we are going to democratise Zimbabwe, we must start within ourselves and we frown upon imposition issues. Undermining local people who must have a right to choose their representatives must not be allowed, no amount of manipulation will be tolerated.

Phugeni dismissed suggestions that the real objective behind the recalls was to target Chamisa and remove him from his position as party leader. He emphasised that there was no intention to recall Chamisa and that he was considered the right person to lead the party based on its values, principles, character, and nature.

Phugeni stated that those who rely on name-dropping and misuse their access to Chamisa might misrepresent the recalls as an attack on him. He said in reality, the recalls strengthen the party and enhance Chamisa’s standing within the community.

The CCC party has given a 14-day deadline for the prompt reversal of recalls of its members. Failure to do so will result in political and diplomatic actions, including reaching out to organisations like the Southern African Development Community (SADC), the Pan-African Parliament (PAP), and the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).

The party announced on Wednesday 11 October 2023 that it was disengaging from official activities in the National Assembly, Senate and councils.

CCC Has Imploded, Says Dr Mavaza

By Dr. Masimba Mavaza | The members of CCC find themselves in a state of uncertainty, with internal strife brewing and the absence of a constitution raising concerns.

This raises the question: Are citizens willing to tolerate violations of democratic rules and norms by incompetent political leaders?

A troubling pattern unfolds, as democracy withered in the MDC and now appears to be repeating in the CCC. An unsettling form of authoritarianism is taking root within the opposition, raising warning signs for Zimbabwe and its people. The party is fragmenting, and Chamisa is grappling with a significant setback.

The CCC’s landscape is marred by a wilderness, surrounded by a history of violence and the thicket of dictatorship disguised as opposition. The world pays little attention to the state of democracy within an opposition, allowing the CCC to tread upon democratic principles. Now, the repercussions are emerging.

Currently, the CCC is ensnared in confusion, with Chamisa walking a tightrope. The strategic ambiguity has become all the more ambiguous. The lack of clarity regarding the Secretary General’s role adds to the party’s woes, and the absence of a constitution and elected officials poses dangers that have been forewarned. Chamisa’s refusal to modernize his political party and adhere to democratic rules is evident, driven by his desire for multiple roles within the party.

This disregard for democratic norms is catching up with him, as a dispute over the Secretary General position emerges. It’s no surprise that the CCC is perceived as corrupt and incompetent.

The party, in 23 years, has failed to implement even a single significant democratic change, a primary task they were elected to accomplish. Undemocratic behavior from CCC’s leadership, particularly Chamisa, undermines democracy and erodes voter support. Competence alone cannot justify such behavior.

Blaming the speaker of parliament for performing their duties is misguided. The root issue is the lack of party structures and a constitution. This organizational chaos becomes apparent as CCC grapples with internal disputes.

What’s happening in the CCC now illustrates the consequences of a dictator turning against another dictator. The barbed-wire fence Chamisa erected through the heart of democracy has tarnished the party’s image.

Chamisa’s abandonment of MDC founders for student activists reflects poorly on his leadership. The disillusionment of CCC supporters and democratic-minded Zimbabweans is palpable.

The party, initially founded on democratic principles, has decayed and clings to its name. Biti, once part of the MDC, now faces the consequences of being sidelined by Chamisa.

The irony is that those who claim to champion African democracy are undermining it. Chamisa has fenced himself into power and incited youth to promote violence against challengers.

The CCC’s failure to live up to its democratic promise is evident, and it has essentially abandoned the principles it was founded upon. As the 2023 elections approach, internal divisions and power struggles threaten to tear the party apart.

Chamisa’s undemocratic tendencies and stubbornness have ignited opposition within the CCC, particularly related to the MP’s fund saga. The party’s lack of clear organization, principles, and credibility damages its prospects on both domestic and international fronts.

CCC’s resemblance to a pressure group rather than a political party is striking. They lack a coherent ideology, a constitution, and any sense of purpose. Their love for money over national interest undermines their credibility and leadership.

Inviting chaos and turmoil is not a trait of responsible opposition. No credible opposition thrives on harming its own country. Self-respect is a principle that CCC seems to lack, and this attitude does not inspire respect from others.

Government preparedness and patriotism are vital for a political outfit, especially one aiming to govern. CCC’s lack of these attributes disqualifies them from being a suitable government.

Their incapability to produce a constitution or understand governance further illustrates their unpreparedness. Their disregard for institutions and lack of maturity for governance are evident.

The ongoing events reveal that trust in Chamisa may have been misplaced. Lack of democracy within the CCC is alarming, and Chamisa’s refusal to step down in the face of defeat is concerning.

Allowing a ruthless, unchecked populist to govern, as seen with Chamisa, can lead to dire consequences. Zimbabwe must pay heed to these warning signs.

ZIMRA confirms road accident has blocked traffic at- Forbes border post

By A Correspondent- The Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) has acknowledged the long queues that have formed at Forbes Border Post in Mutare due to a road traffic accident.

The accident occurred on October 3, 2023, involving four trucks, which led to the temporary closure of the exit channel and the sharing of the entry channel for all traffic.

ZIMRA said it was working with other agencies, partners, stakeholders, and authorities to clear the vehicles and trucks at the border. Despite efforts to clear the queues, commercial traffic accumulates overnight and during the day, resulting in queue build-up each morning when the entry point opens.

In a statement, ZIMRA said it has extended the operating hours of Forbes Border Post to accommodate the increased traffic. Read the statement:

The Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) confirms that there have been long queues forming at Forbes Border Post in the past week.
ZIMRA is working in conjunction with other state agencies, partners, stakeholders and authorities to clear the vehicles and trucks at the border.

The long queues stemmed from an accident at the Forbes border Post on 3 October 2023 involving four trucks leading to the temporary closure of exit channel and sharing of the entry channel for all traffic resulting to traffic build-up.

The lane has since been cleared and from 5 to 7 October 2023, an average of 360 outbound trucks were cleared per day and on 8 and 9 October 2023, 592 and 656 outgoing trucks were cleared respectively.

The operating hours for Forbes Border Post were extended to stretch from 0600 hours to 2200 hours.

However, commercial traffic accumulates overnight and during the day leading to queue buildup each morning. This means that the entry point has to deal with long queues as soon as it opens.

Other reasons that might contribute to the increase in traffic at the Forbes Border Post could be the following:

1. The refurbished road network from Harare to Mutare then to Beira is enticing transporters to use the Forbes route creating congestion.

2. The Port of Beira is nearer as compared to Durban Port, which means there are less transport costs and turnaround times for both transporters and businesses. This has resulted in a surge in traffic to Beira via Forbes.

3. Beira Port has also increased its capacity and has become a preferred port for Africa’s imports and exports to the Far East.

4. An increase in fuel tankers (both Zimbabwean and foreign) exiting to Beira to get fuel for onward transportation to countries in the north. Some transporters have significantly increased their fleet size due to increased demands and business contracts.

5. The region’s sudden boom in the mining industry could be leading to increased exports of various minerals through Forbes Border Post.

6. The Beira Corridor is a critical feeder into and out of the North South Corridor and the shift preferences have led to an increase in its use.

However, the current border post infrastructure was not designed to handle high volumes of commercial traffic as there is hardly any parking space for commercial trucks. This has overstretched the spatial capacity for the handling of the commercial traffic influx. Its location is within constricted terrain which requires significant civil engineering for expansion.

The Munene River bridge between the Mozambican and Zimbabwean borders at Forbes has become a major bottleneck, allowing only one truck to cross at a time. ZIMRA has been in talks with their Mozambican counterparts to prioritize trucks entering Mozambique. However, this arrangement is inadequate as similar requests are made from the Mozambican side for traffic bound for Zimbabwe.

The Authority encourages clearing agents and traders to utilize pre-clearance facilities to reduce waiting times at the border. ZIMRA appreciates the cooperation of all stakeholders and is confident that traffic will return to normal levels by October 15, 2023. Long-term measures are also being considered to increase the border post’s capacity.

Zanu PF distances self from Tshabangu

By A Correspondent- Zanu-PF has dismissed claims by CCC leader Nelson Chamisa that the ruling party was sponsoring recalls on opposition legislators and councillors in attempts to both fan division and destroy his party.

This follows the shock ouster of 24 party legislators and 17 councillors under a dubious directive issued by Sengezo Tshabangu, who claims to be acting as CCC secretary general.

Tshabangu, a virtually unknown figure until his bombshell recall order recently, wrote to national assembly speaker Jacob Mudenda claiming the affected legislators had ceased to be CCC members.

A fuming Chamisa said Wednesday the enemy was sponsoring what he found as a bid to destroy CCC.

“Stay away from CCC, hands off CCC, this is a citizens movement; you don’t just wake up one day from the streets in a drunken stupor to say I’m so and so,” Chamisa said of Tshabangu.

“In this movement, we do not have the position of secretary general. We have different roles and tasks.

“In this movement, we don’t give each other positions but we give each other tasks.

“Nobody can just wake up and recall our candidates.

“In fact, it is a Zanu-PF scheme … Zanu-PF is using certain people purporting to be CCC, who are not even in our books in terms of membership registry.”

Responding to the opposition leader, Zanu-PF acting Director for Information and Publicity Farai Marapira dismissed the claims saying Chamisa should stop dragging the ruling party’s name into the mire.

“Mr Chamisa has simply shown the depth of his ignorance on matters of statecraft,” Marapira said.

“Zanu-PF is a political party within this country. We do not instate or remove legislators from the opposition from any position.

“Mr Chamisa should stop pontificating and stop doing so much rhetoric at the expense of the progression of his party and his supporters.

“Mr Chamisa should take full responsibility that he is below par leader and that this problem is emanating from his party are solely his own fault and he should stop involving Zanu-PF in each and every malady that comes across his way.”

Marapira added, “We are not concerned with what he is going to do if he is going to remove his members that is his decision; we as Zanu-PF it have nothing to do with us.

“So, for him to say that Zanu-PF should reinstate people that have been removed by a letter from CCC is the absurdity of absurdities for this year.

“If any prizes are going to be given this year for the most disingenuous statement. I’m sure Mr Chamisa will be prize contender of these utterances he made.”

Luck runs out for armed robbers as soldiers effect arrest

Kuwadzana, Harare, October 12, 2023 – A group of quick-thinking soldiers, who had just disembarked from a service bus in Kuwadzana, sprang into action on Sunday night, thwarting an armed robbery and facilitating the arrest of two wanted criminals.

The heroic intervention unfolded along the Harare-Bulawayo Road between Kuwadzana 6 and Dzivaresekwa.

The soldiers observed a motorist, identified as Freddy Chigumira, being accosted by a four-man gang. Without hesitation, they intervened, effectively apprehending one of the suspects, who later led police to the capture of another.

The two arrested suspects, Tafadzwa Chayambuka (29) and Simon Chihungwe (34), now face charges of murder, armed robbery, and attempted murder.

The story takes a darker turn as it is revealed that these criminals had been involved in a previous attack that tragically claimed the life of driver Talkmore Vinga on October 6. The incident dates back to September 22, when Mr. Vinga was sent to assist his colleague, Timothy Shambare, whose haulage truck had run out of fuel. The robbers attacked Mr. Vinga, inflicting serious injuries that ultimately led to his untimely death.

In a second count of attempted murder, the same gang targeted Freddy Chigumira on Sunday. He was attacked while briefly parked along Bulawayo Road. The assailants demanded cash and valuables, with Chigumira surrendering $1,200 and his cellphone. However, the soldiers’ timely arrival disrupted the robbery attempt.

The soldiers engaged in a pursuit, leading to the arrest of Tafadzwa Chayambuka, who subsequently assisted the police in capturing Simon Chihungwe.

The citizens of Kuwadzana are praising the bravery of the soldiers, who, through their rapid response, managed to save Chigumira and contributed to the apprehension of the criminal culprits. The two suspects, Chayambuka and Chihungwe, have appeared before Harare regional magistrate Mrs. Marehwanazvo Gofa, where they face charges of robbery, murder, and attempted murder.

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the persistent security concerns on the Harare-Bulawayo Road, urging authorities to continue their efforts to ensure the safety of travelers on this route.-state media

“Report those rejecting $50 bond notes”: Deputy finance minister Mnangagwa

Deputy Minister of Finance and Investment Promotion, Kudakwashe David Mnangagwa, warned businesses against rejecting the ZWL$50 note, stating that they could face significant penalties.

He urged Members of Parliament to report such incidents for investigation and potential sanctions. Mnangagwa emphasised that Zimbabwe currently operates with a local currency alongside a multi-currency system, which will end in 2025.

Therefore, businesses should not reject the local currency. He also informed the public that the government is actively addressing the issue and introduced ZiG (digital currency) as an alternative and store of value for those facing difficulties with bond notes.

NewsDay cites him as saying:

On the issue of those rejecting our money, as lawmakers and representatives of the people, we should report to the Financial Intelligence Unit or the ministry so that we Investigate  and ask why they are not accepting our currency, and sanction them.

At the moment we use the local currency and the multi-currency regime and it will end in 2025 … business people should not reject local currency.

I want to assure the august House and Zimbabweans that we are looking at this matter. We now have ZiG (digital currency) which is a store of value and an alternative for those who are unable to use bond notes, they can buy ZiG.

Informal traders and commuter transport operators refuse to accept the ZWL$50 note amid the depreciation of the Zimbabwe dollar. When the Zimbabwe dollar was reintroduced in 2019 after a decade-long suspension, there were smaller denominations like ZWL$2, ZWL$5, ZWL$10, and ZWL$20 but they have all been phased out as the local currency continued to lose value against the United States dollar.

Since the August 23 and 24, 2023 elections, the local currency has lost over 18% of its value, with the current exchange rate standing at US$1:$5 633,8332 on the interbank market.

Should CCC withdraw from parliament? A framework for thought.

By Dr. Phillan Zamchiya. 11-10-2023.

Dear Reader,

Should the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) led by Nelson Chamisa withdraw from parliament as a way to protest and demand a democratic order in the context of deepening authoritarianism in Zimbabwe?

Reader, answering this complex question requires a deduction based on reasoning and evidence and not just on emotional flares hence my proposed framework for thought.

In my humble view, the decision to withdraw must be informed by at least five primary factors.

First, is a data driven assessment of regime vulnerability with legitimacy as one variable. High vulnerability locally, regionally and internationally [The West and The East] points to a high probability of regime failure in the context of disengagement. The logic is that a strong regime is more likely to ignore the withdrawal. On the other hand, a weak regime is likely to buckle under pressure and consider some reforms when faced with a ‘boycott’. If there is low regime vulnerability, a strategic temporary retreat for opposition preservation cannot be entirely off the table.

Second, is an evidence-based conclusion that participation in parliament is no longer tenable for an opposition Member of Parliament (MP) to discharge their three primary constitutional duties due to regime intransigence. There will be little reason to stay in parliament if an elected MP is no longer able to: (a) play a representative role that is to air the views of those who elected them and engage in debates that give value to the citizens’ needs; (b) supervise the work of the executive and other institutions and agencies of government and (c) make democratic laws for the good governance of Zimbabwe. Another consideration is whether the regime needs opposition representation in the legislature to function, for example, to make parliamentary committees work, pass bills and the budget.

Third, is a survey of the degree of internal universal acceptance for the uncharted territory of total disengagement within the CCC. In the absence of consensus within the CCC this can erode intra-party cohesion. The danger is to trigger elite defections to a potential formation with a counter view of continued participation. As a result, this will defeat the opposition goal of total delegitimization of parliament as a pariah one-party state platform.

Fourth, is an assessment of CCC’s capacity to trigger a regime crisis and the related political costs. Reader, one established rule of ending authoritarian regimes is triggering a crisis. A crisis here refers to mass demonstrations, strikes, petitions, stay aways, everyday forms of resistance, et cetera that are exercised peacefully. Elsewhere such actions have led to different outcomes such as: the massacre and decimation of the opposition and its prominent activists; breakdown of some authoritarian regimes and concessions for democratic reforms.

Fifth, is a solid plan for the costs of backing down from a public political fight in the event of no results as a worst case scenario. For withdrawal cannot be a permanent condition.

Reader, this is important because where ‘disengagements’ are common in the Middle-East the results are varied. Some resulted in democratic reforms, others led to more autocratic rules; some got favourable responses, others were totally ignored; some triggered regime change as in Cote d’Ivoire in 2000, while others led to consolidation of authoritarian rule and left the regime in an even stronger position and the opposition much weaker.

Casino Games With the Smallest House Edge

Are you looking for the best non GamStop casino games in the best online casinos with the smallest house edge? Look no further as we have put together a list of the best casino games that will give you the best chance of winning. These games include Blackjack, Roulette, Baccarat, Craps and Slots.

Understanding House Edge at Non GamStop Casinos

Before we move on to the specific games with the smallest house edge, it is important to understand what house edge means. The house edge is the casino’s advantage over the player, calculated as a percentage of the bets placed. Essentially, it is the amount of money the casino expects to win from each player’s bet. This can also be seen as the reverse of the RTP, the Return To Player.

For example, if a game has a 2% house edge, the casino expects to win €2 for every €100 wagered by the player. Therefore, the lower the house edge, the greater the player’s chances of winning.

Blackjack is a popular card game with a relatively low house edge. The object of the game is to have a hand value of 21 or as close to it as possible without going over it. The dealer deals two cards to each player and two cards to himself, with one card face down.

The player can choose to “hit” to receive additional cards, or “stand” to keep his current hand. The dealer must hit until he reaches a hand value of at least 17.

If you employ the right strategies, the house edge can be reduced to less than 1%, making blackjack one of the best options for players looking for the best odds of winning. Depending on the specific game rules, the betting system, and the player, the house edge usually varies from 0.5% to 1%.

Baccarat

Baccarat is a card game that is easy to learn and has a low house edge. The aim of the game is to have a hand value as close to 9 as possible. The dealer deals two cards to the player and the banker and the hand with the highest value wins.

The house edge in Baccarat can vary depending on the specific game rules, but usually ranges from 1% to 1.5%.

Roulette

Roulette is another popular non GamStop casino game with a relatively low house edge. In this game, a small ball is dropped onto a spinning wheel with numbered slots. Players can bet on the ball landing on a specific number, color or group of numbers.

There are two main types of roulette: American and European. American roulette has a higher house edge due to the presence of an extra “00” slot on the wheel. European roulette has a house edge of approximately 2.7%. It is therefore always not advisable to play American Roulette if European Roulette is also available!

Craps

Craps is a dice game that may seem complicated at first, but it is actually quite simple once you understand the basic rules. The object of the game is to bet on the outcome of a roll, or series of rolls, of two dice.

There are many different types of bets that can be made in craps, but the “pass line” bet is the most common. This bet has a house edge of approximately 1.4%.

Slots

Slots are the most popular casino game, but they also have the highest house edge. The house edge can vary depending on the specific slot machine and casino, but usually ranges from 2% to 10%.

However, there are some slots with a lower house edge, such as “Blood Suckers” and “Goblin’s Cave”. These slots have a house edge of approximately 1% or less.

Conclusion

When it comes to non GamStop casino games with the smallest house edge, Blackjack, Roulette, Baccarat, Craps and certain slots are your best bet. By playing these games you can increase your chances of winning and have a more enjoyable gambling experience.

Remember that playing casino games always involves risks and it is important to gamble responsibly. Only play with money you can afford to lose and stop playing when you can no longer control yourself. Good luck!

Soldiers Catch Armed Robbers

Sengezo A Tortoise On A Lamp Post

By Leonard Koni | ZIMBABWE is the only country in Africa which spends much of its resources conducting by-elections for the whole term whilst unemployment is hovering above 90% with street vending hitting very high levels. It is the only country which is always in election mode from January to December rather than in the development mode.

The country is riddled with unresolved political issues, poverty, corruption, moral decadence, human rights abuses for example the incarceration of Job Sikhala political and political intolerance. The country is on autopilot. There is need for devine intervention. We need to pray for Zimbabwe.

This new republic has failed. Robert Mugabe at his worst never reached at this level of poor leadership, incompetence, confusion and nepotism. Zimbabwe under this new dispensation has now become a laughing stock. How did we arrive at this stage? A coup government has never worked at all.

The recalling of twenty-five members of Citizens Coalition for Change using an imposter Sengezo Tshabangu who is claiming to be an interim CCC Secretary General a position which is currently not existing within the CCC circles.

There is really internal fighting within the citizens project. Actually a certain group of people within the ranks who feel aggrieved in the party, have now resorted to miscalculated political manvoures just to outwit each other. One cannot rule out the fact that this group is getting all the support to effect these recalls from a party which is seeking a two thirds majority rule in parliament.

There is a clear indication that the ruling party is working in cohorts with this group to subvert the will of the people and undermine their rights. They are doing this for selfish agendas and to wholly consolidate political power.

Sengezo has always been at the centre of controversy from the beginning. This is the man who tried to bar the Bulawayo 12 to contest and also caused the double candidate issue. Mr Sengezo who has no legal standing to effect the recalls is just a tortoise on a lamp post. There is a secret agent working behind the scenes where money is exchanging hands.

The people thought that they have now done with these modern day Morrison Nyathi but alas we are now back at full throttle to the days of Douglas Mwonzora who was used by Zanu PF to recall members of MDC -Alliance after a fall out with the leadership. Its a pity that we have a country where politicking has become the order of the day.

It is only in Zimbabwe where you can find a street kid orchestrating the recalling of elected members of a political party and then get away with it without the authorities interrogating him.

We saw the persecution of Morgan Tsvangirai and MDC supporters in the 2000s and we are also witnessing the same modus operandi being applied on Nelson Chamisa. Some people fail to see the bigger picture that they are there to serve the people before they serve themselves. Colluding with Zanu PF is the worst ever thing to do.

Government Statement On Middle East Crisis

THE Zimbabwean government has called on the warring parties in the Middle East to exercise maximum restraint and allow humanitarian workers access in the region as deaths from the Israel-Palestine conflict continue to rise.

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade said it is closely following developments and is deeply concerned by the ongoing conflict that has resulted in over 1 000 deaths with others being displaced.

It further called on Israel and Hamas to exercise restraint and allow humanitarian aid in the region while calling for an urgent revival of political processes aimed at finding a durable and just solution that respects the right to self-determination of the Palestinian people.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the United Nations Human Rights, Chief Ms Ravina Shamdasani says Israel’s total siege of the Gaza Strip, depriving civilians of goods essential for survival, is banned under international law.

“The imposition of sieges that endanger the lives of civilians by depriving them of goods essential for their survival is prohibited under international humanitarian law. Any restriction on the movement of people and goods to implement a siege must be justified by military necessity, or it may amount to collective punishment,” said Ms Shamdasani.

The World Health Organisation has called for a humanitarian corridor to be established into and out of the Gaza Strip, which has been placed under total siege by Israel.

“The World Health Organization is also calling for an end to the violence. Health facilities, patients, health workers, and civilians in general have to be protected and safeguarded,” said WHO Spokesperson, Mr Tarik Jasarevic.

Palestinian Ambassador to Zimbabwe, His Excellency Tamer Almassiri reiterated the call for an end to Israeli occupation in Palestinian territory.

“We continue calling for the end of Israeli occupation in our country for our people. We call for the reform of the United Nations to give our people a voice as has been supported by all friendly nations,” he said.

Meanwhile, United Nations Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, says he recognises the legitimate concerns of Palestinians and Israel’s security concerns adding that it is alarmed and distressed by the actions from both sides.

He urged all parties to immediately cease these attacks and release all hostages, while Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei says Israel will receive “a heavier slap” for the regime’s ongoing massacre of the Palestinian people in the besieged Gaza Strip.

The Palestinian Health Ministry confirmed that Israeli airstrikes have killed at least 704 people and injured more than 3,900 people since the unprecedented operation by Hamas.

DeMbare Get Maximum Points After Barbourfields Chaos

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has awarded Dynamos the three points for their abandoned match against old foes Highlanders at Babourfields Stadium on September 10.

Highlanders fans went berserk and invaded the pitch after referee Allen Basvi’s decision to turn away appeals for a penalty to Bosso after McKinnon Mushore was adjudged to have been fouled by Keith Madera in the 38th minute.

Dembare were leading 2-0 courtesy of Madera’s 2nd minute strike and captain Frank Makarati’s 34th minute header.

Highlanders defender Peter Muduhwa was fined USD500 and also got a 4-game suspension for the incitive role he played in the turmoil.

However, DeMbare were also fined USD3500 for the violent manner in which their fans reacted to the onslaught from their Highlanders counterparts.

“The retaliation by the Dynamos fans made the situation worse resulting in the abandonment of the match,” reads part of the PSL judgement.

“It is not for the accused to take the law into its own hands but to put in place, as far as that is possible, official security measures to deal with unruly behaviour.

“Obviously, the accused cannot be punished to the same extent as the perpetrator, but it is necessary to send a message to the accused that retaliation is not acceptable and also has consequences.

“All the charges will be treated as one for purposes of determining an appropriate penalty. The accused, Dynamos FC, is sentenced to pay a fine of US$3 500 of which US$500 is suspended for a season on condition the accused does not commit similar offences.

“The effective fine of US$3 000, together with the costs of the hearing, shall be paid within two weeks of receipt of this judgment.

“It is common cause that there was missile throwing and pitch invasion by some fans, the majority of whom — hundreds of them we were told — were wearing black and white regalia associated with Highlanders Football Club while a few others, not more than fifty (50), were wearing blue and white regalia associated with Dynamos Football Club.

“It is also not in issue that the missile throwing and pitch invasion was initiated and instigated by the Highlanders fans who were not happy with the referee’s decision not to award a penalty for what they perceived as a foul on their player in the penalty box.”-Soccer24 News

Tshabangu Salutes Chamisa, Says Nero Is The CCC Leader

By- Self-proclaimed Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) Interim Secretary General Sengezo Tshabangu has distanced himself from a statement circulating on social media platforms purportedly announcing the expulsion of the party’s president, Nelson Chamisa.

Tshabangu recently recalled 15 CCC MPs, claiming they had ceased to be party members.

On Tuesday, 10 October, a statement purportedly signed by Tshabangu surfaced on social media announcing Chamisa’s expulsion from the party he formed just over a year ago.

The statement stated that Chamisa had been dismissed from CCC “with immediate effect for “personalising the party as well as his continued gross disregard of the party constitution amongst other issues including embezzlement of party funds.”

However, when CITE reached out to him for comment, Tshabangu dismissed the expulsion statement as fake.

Chamisa MPs Injured In Police Skirmishes

By- Several CCC MPs were injured Tuesday after the Anti-riot police Tuesday pounced on them in Parliament while they were protesting the recall of their 15 colleagues.

A CCC supporter from Bulawayo, Sengezo Tshabangu claimed to be the party’s interim secretary-general and initiated the recall of 15 CCC Members of Parliament (MPs) and 17 councillors, alleging that they were no longer members of the party.

When Speaker of the National Assembly, Jacob Mudenda officially announced the recall of the MPs, opposition MPs responded by singing and chanting slogans against Mudenda, bringing the proceedings to a halt. CCC interim organising secretary Amos Chibaya argued that Mudenda was wrong to accept Tshabangu’s letter, stating that all communication should come from their president, Nelson Chamisa , NewsDay quotes him as saying:

Mr Speaker, we wrote a letter to you dated September 11, notifying you that all communication comes from our president (Nelson) Chamisa.

I don’t think it is proper for you to rule in favour of Tshabangu.

Mudenda ordered the recalled MPs to leave the House, but they refused and continued singing party songs. As a result, anti-riot police were called in to remove them. Mudenda also imposed a ban on all CCC MPs from attending Parliament for six sessions and docked their salaries for boycotting President Mnangagwa.

Winky D to perform at braai festival

Meat and beer lovers in the continuing spirit of celebrating summer will on October 21 converge at Old Hararians Sports Club in the capital for the annual Castle Lager National Braai Day, considered the biggest braai showcase in Zimbabwe.

The popular and strictly no-under-18 festival funded by Delta Beverages through their Castle Lager brand brings families and friends together over braai, music and booze.

At the inaugural braai fest in 2016, over 12 000kg of meat was consumed in one day, while a staggering 15 000kg was gobbled at the second edition in 2017 at Alexandra Sports Club in Harare.

In a statement, Delta Corporation, marketing director Irimayi Muzorewa said attendees can expect to enjoy mouth-watering braai, a variety of engaging activities, games as well as some of the best in local entertainment.

“The braai event aims to bring together the local community and visitors to celebrate the vibrant braai culture of our motherland along with the finest beer of Africa,” he noted.

“Our valued consumers will as always be able to enjoy the best of our beverages at very affordable prices. Event tickets are available in advance on www.clicknpay.africa as well as at the gate on event day.”

Apart from braaing and boozing, merrymakers will also be treated to live music performances from an array of top local artistes.

Festival organisers have unveiled the star-studded line-up of local entertainers, who are set to add the sparkle to the event.

This is another chance for the multi-award-winning chanter, Winky D to bring cheers once again to thousands of merrymakers.

Born in the ghetto, the Kambuzuma-bred Winky D has become a darling of many who relate to the messages in his music that speak about the everyday struggles in the ghetto and nation at large.

Winky D’s efforts to sing against social evils have not gone unnoticed. He has won several international awards for using his voice as a weapon to fight against the evils.

To share the stage with the Gafa hitmaker are fellow dancehall chanters Enzo Ishall, Dhadza D and songbird Tamy Moyo.

On the turntables will be wheel spinners DJ Naida, Etherton B, DJ Cesh, DJ Rush and the ChillSpot family.

Tickets for the festival are selling at US$10 inclusive of a braai pack and a litre of Castle Lager draught beer.-newsday

Patriot Act “sneaks” back death penalty

By A Correspondent- There is concern that a provision under the amended Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, also known as the Patriot Act, seeks to re-introduce the death penalty through the backdoor at a time when human rights defenders are pushing for its removal from the country’s statutes.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa signed into law the Patriot Act in July this year, despite widespread condemnation of the draconian law.

Legislative watchdog, Veritas and Amnesty International  (AI) voiced their concerns over the law during yesterday’s International Death Penalty Day commemorations in the capital.

The day is commemorated annually on October 10.

Zimbabwe is part of the 87 countries that have not abolished the death penalty.

Veritas director, Val Ingham-Thorpe said the death penalty must be removed from the country’s statutes.

“Death penalty and the Patriot Bill are completely unconstitutional. This is against the Constitution, it’s inhuman and we are going to challenge that in court,” Ingham-Thorpe said.

“In this country, we really have strange provisions.”-Newsday

Mike Maponga Dies

– ‘Farewell Elder Maponga, you’ve finished your race!”

Dr. Masimba Mavaza.

Mike Maponga

The Seventh Day Adventist community and all of Zimbabwe mourn the loss of one of Christ’s brave and gifted soldiers, Elder Mike Munyuki Maponga, born on November 30, 1943, who lived to the age of 80. Elder Maponga, an iconic yet humble figure, remained steadfast in his devotion to the gospel and the salvation of souls. As we bid farewell to this remarkable shepherd of our faith, let us express our gratitude, love, and appreciation for the spiritual guidance, unwavering support, and profound wisdom he shared with us throughout his tenure.

The late, Elder Mike Maponga

Elder Maponga, who hailed from a family of eleven, began his divine work at the tender age of 12, driven by his deep love for God. In 1964, at the age of 21, he married a beautiful woman, and their union was blessed with eight children: David, Seth, Rashel, Lee, Dani, Charity, Tendai, Ngoni, Closer, Tinomudaishe, Flee, and Success. Despite the heart-wrenching loss of three children – David, Lee, and Dani, as well as his wife in 2009, Elder Maponga’s unwavering commitment to God remained unshaken.

Elder Maponga’s life consistently mirrored the message he preached, which took him across Africa to share the Word of God. As we grieve his passing, we recognize that he rests, awaiting the Lord’s return. He has played a pivotal role in countless lives, guiding them to Christ, and his legacy of faith will continue to flourish in our hearts.

I first met Elder Maponga at a rally where he was a speaker, and I was immediately struck by his warmth and devotion. He exemplified a profound love for Zimbabwe and a dedicated commitment to pray for the nation and its leaders. He was a humble and sober servant of God, and his sermons continue to touch lives, leaving an enduring legacy.

When someone serves God faithfully, the church and the nation respond with love, sorrow, and blessings. Elder Maponga’s life stands out in three key areas: his preaching ministry, his life of prayer, and his unwavering faithfulness.

First, Elder Maponga was a passionate and fervent preacher, embodying a deep love for Christ, the Word of God, and the church. He upheld the uncompromised truth of the Word and never sought worldly fame or applause. He inspires us to remain faithful to the Word.

Second, he was a man of prayer, interceding for his family, friends, and congregation, dedicating hours to commune with God. His example calls us to be fervent prayer warriors for the kingdom of Christ.

Third, his life was marked by faithfulness, both to Christ and to his marriage vows. He exemplified sacrificial love and generosity, enriching the lives of many. We are encouraged to follow his path of holiness, love, and faithfulness.

In his final days, Elder Maponga upheld the grace of God, radiating peace and gratitude. His legacy calls us to continue in faithfulness and to emulate his unwavering commitment to the Word of God.

To the Maponga family, we offer our love and support. Take comfort in knowing that Elder Maponga’s ministry was a testament to his faithful service to God and the congregation. He proclaimed the truth even when it was difficult, and his legacy will forever be cherished.

Farewell, Elder Maponga, until we meet again. May God comfort the Maponga family in their time of mourning.

Matabeleland fissures haunt Chamisa’s CCC

Division has struck the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) structures in Matebeleland following the recall of the party’s Members of Parliament (MPs) and 17 councillors in the region.

Sengezo Tshabangu, who identifies as the interim CCC secretary-general, initiated the recall of the MPs and councillors, contending that they were no longer members of the opposition party.

Although the CCC has accused Tshabangu of being a Zanu-PF proxy and an impostor, reports indicate that regionalism is causing turmoil within the CCC. Those targeted for recall are being accused of not being “natives” of Matebeleland.

Tshabangu is said to have collaborated with senior party members, including recently elected councillors and MPs primarily from Bulawayo, who were dissatisfied with the alleged imposition of some candidates during the party’s candidate selection process leading up to the August 23 and 24 elections.

Sources suggest that the disgruntled group held five meetings prior to the recalls, with the most recent meeting taking place a day before CCC leader Nelson Chamisa addressed members in Bulawayo last Friday.

Speaker of the National Assembly, Jacob Mudenda, has officially notified the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) of the vacant seats. However, the recalled MPs have filed a High Court application to challenge their removal from the House.

On Monday, CCC Matebeleland North chairperson Prince Dubeko Sibanda, one of the affected legislators, revealed that he was aware of the plot by certain party members he claimed were collaborating with Zanu-PF to destabilize the opposition.

“Tshabangu is not acting alone in this,” said Dubeko-Sibanda. “We know that at some point, they went and met with Zanu-PF members to seek assistance in wresting the party from Chamisa.”

Tshabangu’s spokesperson, Khaliphani Phugeni, defended the recalls during an interview with American radio station Studio 7. Phugeni asserted that Tshabangu was nominated for the Lobengula-Magwegwe constituency and that he was unfairly treated. He added, “What will happen is that the court will ask for the (CCC) constitution. Tshabangu has it, and others do not.”

Overcrowding haunts Ingutsheni hospital

Ingutsheni Hospital in Bulawayo is overcrowded with some wards carrying double the holding capacity, authorities have revealed.

Speaking during the World Mental Health Day commemorations held at the hospital on Tuesday, under the theme “Mental Health is Universal Human Right”, Ingutsheni’s Chief Medical Officer Dr Nemache Mawere said the hospital is overcrowded.

“We have challenges of inadequate food to feed the ever-growing population of patients who are continuously brought to us from all over the country. As we speak, our Khumalo ward has got 180 patients beyond its carrying capacity of 98 patients. This speaks to issues of overcrowding. The patients are not easily discharged,” said Dr Mawere.

Dr Mawere said there was a need to promote community care as a way of decongesting mental health institutions.

“Our biggest challenge in terms of care has to do with community care, which I think we should be advocating for. Is to have people looked after more in the community and less in the hospital. Unfortunately, people still think that it is best to bring people to the central hospital, but I am proposing that we look after our people out there in the community.

So that is what we should be driving towards, establishing community care, making sure these people get appropriate treatment and making sure they get their reviews because sometimes people are not coming back for reviews, they are not coming back to collect their medication and then they relapse and we end up having a problem of overcrowding,” he said.

Bulawayo provincial medical director Dr Maphios Siamuchembu called on communities to treat those with mental health challenges with dignity.

“I think it is important for us to commemorate this day because none of us is immune to mental health issues, living in Zimbabwe we go through economic turmoil,” said Dr Siamuchembu.

“We need to treat those that are incapacitated by mental health issues as human beings first before anything else, we need to treat them with respect, with dignity and we need to involve them in their treatment decisions.”

Mental health activist Sifundo Ngwenya said more needs to be done to support health institutions like Ingutsheni.

“Today being the 10th of October it’s a World Mental Health Day where we focus on issues that are really pertinent in making sure that we support institutions and, families, as activists we encourage people to make sure that they do all that can support institutions especially Ingutsheni,” said Ngwenya.

“Let us not dump our relatives at these institutions because we are really laboring the people who are managing the institutions to have a tough time sustaining these people because of economic issues.”

The event was attended by different organisations and students from various schools in Bulawayo.

Zanu PF heavyweights hijack presidential inputs scheme

By A Correspondent- Villagers in various parts of the country have accused Zanu PF bigwigs of hijacking the presidential inputs programme through looting and nepotism.

Government says it has mobilised over 360 000 tonnes of agricultural inputs, which include seed and fertiliser, to support smallholder farmers under the Climate-Proofed Presidential Input Scheme (Pfumvudza/Intwasa).

However, distribution of the inputs to the targeted 3,5 million beneficiaries, which commenced on April 18 in Mt Darwin, Mashonaland Central, has been marred by accusations of looting and nepotism.

Villagers under Chief Mudzimu in Magunje constituency, Mashonaland West province, accused traditional leaders and Zanu PF councillors of denying known opposition members access to the inputs.

“The Chief (Mudzimu) has made it clear that no opposition member should get the inputs. The village heads in Mahwada, Kapfunde and Dzimaihwe have been ordered to provide their lists without opposition members,” one of the villagers said.

Chief Mudzimu was not picking calls to his mobile phone number despite repeated efforts to contact him for comment.

Elsewhere in Masvingo province’s Gutu district, Zanu PF district co-ordinating committee vice-chairperson Fabios Musara said the party had taken over the distribution of the inputs.

“It’s from our President (Emmerson Mnangagwa), so naturally as a local party leader, I am involved. I know our people who deserve the inputs,” he said.

Last week, acting Chief Nyamandi, born Siyano Machaya, touched off a storm after directing village heads to deny opposition supporters presidential agricultural inputs and food aid from government.

According to weather experts, this year’s cropping season will likely be affected by the El Niño weather phenomenon, which typically leads to delayed and below-normal rainfall.

Government is targeting cereal production of 3 512 658 tonnes — 2,8 million tonnes of maize and 712 658 tonnes of traditional grains and oil seeds — enough to meet the country’s human consumption needs.

Zimbabwe requires about 2,2 million tonnes of grains annually.-Newsday

Chamisa pins hope on High Court

By A Correspondent- Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) has approached the High Court in Bulawayo in an attempt to reverse 15 controversial Parliamentary recalls by Sengezo Tshabangu.

Tshabangu recalled the CCC legislators alongside 17 councillors citing the members had ceased to be their members.

The Matebeleland North politician claims to be CCC’s Secretary General, a position contested by party President Nelson Chamisa.

Mudenda, after receiving Tshabangu’s communication proceeded to notify the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) of vacancies in the 15 mainly Matebeleland constituencies.

Tshabangu has been labelled an impostor, funded by Zanu-PF to destabilise CCC and ensure a two-thirds Parliamentary majority for the ruling party.

A Declaratory and Consequential Relief filed on Monday by the opposition identifies Tshabangu as First Respondent, and Speaker of Parliament Jacob Mudenda as the Second.

“Plaintiffs’ (CCC) claim against the Defendants is for a declaratory and consequential relief as follows; an order declaring that the Plaintiffs’ have a right to remain in, and be recognised as Members of Parliament by virtue of having been so elected in the general elections held on the 23rd and 24th of August 2023 and having been so sworn on the 7th of September 2023.

“An order declaring that 1 Defendant has no authority to communicate, engage, or correspond with the 2nd Defendant purporting to represent the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) in respect of the Plaintiffs’ positions as Members of Parliament,” reads High Court papers filed by CCC.

“An order declaring that the 2nd Defendant has no obligation to act on the basis of any communication or correspondence addressed to him by the 1st Defendant purporting to communicate any information pertaining to Plaintiffs’ membership of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) or in respect of the Plaintiffs’ position or status as Members of Parliament

“Consequently, the letter written by the 1st Defendant dated 3rd October 2023 and any other communication or documents incidental thereto addressed to the 2nd Defendant communicating that the Plaintiffs have ceased to be members of Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) be declared null and void and of no force and effect.”

If the recalls are upheld Zimbabweans will, barely two months after a general election, be expected to re-choose Parliamentarians in the 15 constituencies.

Having denied Zanu-PF a two-thirds majority, the elections could give President Emmerson Mnangagwa an opportunity to finally claim it and give him enough power to amend the constitution in his favour as feared by CCC and analysts.-newzimbabwe

Grade 7 learners to continue attending school after completing exams

By A Correspondent- Parents and guardians of Grade 7 pupils who finished writing their end of year Zimbabwe School Examinations Council tests Monday are disgruntled after government announced that the pupils will continue attending school.

Government has also banned school field trips for the junior school graduands, giving rise to angry reactions from parents and teacher unions who said they saw no sense in the decree.

Many parents who had travelled to boarding schools hoping to collect their children returned home empty-handed following the government order, triggering anger among the parents who had over the years been used to collecting their children soon after they completed writing their examinations.

In a circular dated October 5, 2023, the Primary and Secondary Education ministry ordered all schools to ensure that pupils attended schools until the end of the third term.

“The time after the last Grade 7 examination paper is not a school holiday because all Grade 7 pupils should attend classes until the end of the term. Heads of schools are duty-bound to make solid arrangements for all Grade 7 pupils to receive meaningful lessons and practical exercise in preparations for their transition to secondary school

“For the safety of pupils and curriculum alignment, no education tours should be undertaken by school after the Grade 7 examinations,” Nyanungo said.

Government also banned schools from holding fund-raising programmes.

This comes as several schools had planned field trips after the Grade 7 Zimsec examinations, with parents having already paid for the trips to mainly tourist resorts such as Victoria Falls, Kariba and Nyanga.

Yesterday, several schools were holding farewell parties for the Grade 7 pupils, while others were scheduled for this week as schools anticipated lessened pressure from the outgoing pupils.

Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe president Obert Masaraure said: “Government is consistently issuing this order year in, year out. No one will take heed of the order because it is not backed by a solid programme to occupy the learners.

“Government should create a post-Grade 7 learning programme if they want to detain learners in schools. In the absence of a programme teachers and learners will disregard the order.

“Such a post-Grade 7 programme should serve as orientation for entry to secondary school and impart important life skills. This can go a long way to protect learners from the social ills that can harm learners if they spend more time at home.”

Zimbabwe Teachers Association secretary-general Goodwill Taderera said it was difficult to stop the learners from going for the trips.

“During the third term, schools usually organise tours for upper grades, so it’s not unusual for Grade 7 pupils to have trips during this time while it is a noble idea to keep the pupils busy to protect them from social ills. It is difficult to manage a child who has already registered in their minds that they are done with primary school,” he said.

“The challenge is that the Grade Seven learners are sitting for their exams too early. There is a need for a general consensus by all stakeholders on how to enforce the measure,” he said.

“It’s laughable and sickening!

By Wilbert Mukori-  The people of Zimbabwe should be talking about the 23 August 2023 elections, specifically the damning SADC election mission report and making sure the regional leaders do not sweep it under the carpet.

Instead of the Chamisa and his CCC friends playing a leading role in this, they are busy fighting amongst themselves. They could not care less!

The saga sparked by Sengezo Tshabangu’s, who is claiming to be the interim CCC Secretary General, letter to Speaker of Parliament and the Minister of Local Government, recalling some CCC MPs and councillors; is raging on.

“Team Tshabangu Exposed” claimed a post on social media from Mutambara.

“1/ We have managed to expose the true identity of Tshabangu, a group of individuals who are betraying the struggle. They previously did this during President Morgan Tsvangirayi’s era and are now repeating it under President Nelson Chamisa.

“4/ These individuals, including former MDC Alliance VPs (one based in Harare and one in Bulawayo), a former Harare mayor who is also a councillor for Hatcliffe Constituency, a sitting MP for Kuwadzana East Constituency…”

I found 5/ laughable and sickening!

“5/ Sources close to the matter have revealed that these individuals do not care about the people and their struggles following the rigged elections, as long as things go their way. They have been colluding with Zanu PF for a very long time.”

This is a case of an open fire pan calling an open fire pot, black.

Most of the CCC leaders on each side of the two warring factions were in the 2008 to 2013 GNU and, as we know, they all failed to implemented even one token democratic reform in five years. And we know why. Mugabe bribed them with the trappings of high office and, with their snouts in the feeding trough, they forgot about the reforms. They certainly did “not care about the people and their struggles” precisely because “things were going their way.”

These MDC/CCC leaders have been participating in these flawed elections since the GNU knowing fully well that Zanu PF was denying the people their fundamental right to a meaningful vote and that by participating the opposition would give Zanu PF legitimacy. They soldiered on and participated regardless because they also knew that Zanu PF was offering a few gravy train seats to entice their participation. What is more these leaders knew all these things!

“The (2013) electoral process was so flawed, so illegal, that the only logical step was to withdraw, which would compel SADC to hold Zanu PF to account. But such was the distrust between the MDC-T and MDC-N that neither could withdraw for fear that the other would remain in the elections, winning seats and giving the process credibility,” confessed David Coltart in his Book, The Struggle Continues 50 years of Tyranny in Zimbabwe.

It is therefore an insult to every thinking Zimbabwean out there to hear anyone of these sell out CCC leaders wagging the accusing finger at another MDC/CCC leaders and pontificating about “these individuals do not care about the people and their struggles following the rigged elections, as long as things go their way.”

It is the height of hypocrisy when the devil not only quotes the teaching of Bible but has chutzpah to claim to it as his own them. No CCC leader should dare to claim the moral high ground and accuse anyone of “not caring about the people and their struggles following the rigged elections, as long as things go their way.” Don’t even dare go there!

Zimbabwe is stuck with this corrupt, tyrannical and vote rigging Zanu PF dictatorship precisely because ALL the MDC/CCC are corrupt and breathtakingly incompetent. Not some but all of them!

When we should be concentrating on making sure this Zanu PF regime is declared illegal so we can have a National Transition Authority and implement the democratic reforms; CCC is once again proving to be a serious distraction. SADC leaders may well use the infighting in CCC as an excuse for sweeping the damning SADC election report under the carpet!

Mnangagwa Says Zimbabweans Welfare Improving

PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa has reaffirmed the country‘s commitment to ensuring universal health coverage and improving sexual reproductive health in line with the country’s constitution and sustainable development goals.

He was speaking at the official opening of the 20th edition of the International Inter-Ministerial Conference on South-South and Triangular Co-operation in Population and Development in Victoria Falls, this Monday.

Officially opening the conference, President Emmerson Mnangagwa highlighted the country’s progress in fulfilling the objectives of the International Conference on Population and Development.

“To date, the total population of Zimbabwe has doubled from 7.6 million in 1982 to 15 million in 2022. This increase in the population growth rate is attributable to an overally improved quality of life. Additionally, the decline in HIV and AIDS-related mortality rates owing to the increased availability of Anti-Retroviral Treatment as well as reduced mother-to-child HIV transmission has had positive impacts.

“Similarly, the fertility rate has steadily declined, while life expectancy at birth has increased due to comprehensive and coordinated socio-economic and health care interventions. Notably, females have a higher life expectancy compared to their male counterparts, while life expectancy has risen to 65 years,” said the President.

President Mnangagwa also noted the positive impact of increasing the number of medical training schools and decentralisation of specialist services.

“Zimbabwe remains committed to Universal Health Coverage.

Remarkable progress has been made toward improving the availability and accessibility of Reproductive, Maternal, New Born Child and Adolescent Health services, at all levels of our society. Following the outbreak of COVID-19, the Government of Zimbabwe successfully mobilized the procurement of COVID-19 vaccines and rolled out a robust national vaccination programme.

“We continue adhering to the Family Planning 2030 Commitments and the Compact of Commitment about the provision of technical and financial resources for the family planning programmes. This has resulted in the domestic funding, for Family Planning, rising within the national health budget, from 1.7% in 2013 to 2.4% in 2022. Our national health budget allocation was at 14.9% in 2022, in line with the 15% aspiration outlined in the Abuja Declaration,” he said.

The two-day international conference which ends this Tuesday brings together cabinet Ministers, experts, and representatives of development partners from across the globe to find common ground on priority actions to attain health-related sustainable development goals.

Saintfloew Emerges From Coffin To Perform On Stage

HIP hop sensation, Saintfloew is the talk of town after his dramatic stage entrance at his album launch in Harare over the weekend.

The musician who has been in rehabilitation after abusing drugs emerged from a coffin as if to signify that he was rising from the dead.

An eerie atmosphere explains Saintfloew’s dramatic entrance.

Six pallbearers dressed like grim reapers marched on stage carrying a coffin before the youthful artist burst out of the casket.

The dramatic entrance has ignited debate in music circles and social media.

“As we know it death and coffins are sacred so I don’t understand why he would do that.

“I think people don’t know what they are doing. That was so wrong for me.

“That was pure art that guy has talent and his art is unique.

“That was his way of working and looking for money nothing sacred,” said fans and critics.

While the debate rages on, experts believe the act is a good example of artistic expression.

“It managed to send a message. The whole idea of art is to communicate and I guess he managed to make a statement. Given that he is someone who was into drugs and coming back from rehab his rise and lead album was his way of communicating. This is not a new thing other artists have done it before,” said Music and Arts expert, Plot Mhako.

Meanwhile, the act is nothing new after Tanzania star, Diamond Platnumz also dropped a death-themed performance at the Wasafi festival.

Earlier this year Ugandan singer Smokie Omutapata shocked outgoers when he organised a show and turned up for his performance in a casket.

Mighty Warriors In Clinical Display

ZIMBABWE took a giant step towards making it to the semi-finals of the COSAFA Women’s Championship after beating Namibia two-nil in their second Group C match at Dobsonville stadium in South Africa this Monday.

The Mighty Warriors put up a clinical display to beat Namibia two- nil at Dobsonville stadium to register their second win at the ongoing COSAFA Women’s Championship.

Captain Rudo Neshamba showed her class tucking in the first goal after some good team build-up in the 18th minute.

Vice captain Nobukhosi Ncube then made sure of the points with a well-executed free kick in the 57th minute.

Going into the match, coach Shadreck Mlauzi went for grit instead of flair when he brought in Edeline Mutumbami for Tanyaradzwa Chihoro in central midfield while Privelledge Mupeti replaced Alice Moyo upfront.

The changes saw Zimbabwe playing on the front foot even though they lacked a bit of incision.

“We really wanted to control the game and play on the front foot, and we did exactly that, the win is good for us and remember we are trying to build a team for the future and the wins will motivate the guys,” said Mighty Warriors Coach, Shadreck Mlauzi.

The Mighty Warriors have the best defense at the tournament so far as they are the only team yet to concede a goal.

Zimbabwe are on top of Group C with six points from two matches followed by Botswana with four points.

Zimbabwe and Botswana will meet in the group decider on Wednesday.

The top team from the group will progress to the semi-finals together with two other group winners, while the best-placed runner-up will complete the semi-finals lineup.

When the COSAFA Women’s Championship draw was conducted, Group C was dubbed the ‘Group of Death’ and lived up to expectations after the results of match day two in the pool confirmed that.

Earlier in the day, Botswana showed no mercy against Lesotho as they put three goals past them without reply.

Meanwhile, it is crunch time on day seven with the deciding Group B matches opening the day.

Zambia and Comoros face off at the University of Johannesburg (UJ) Soweto campus while Angola faces Mozambique in Dobsonville with the two fixtures kicking off at midday.

Group A deciders will follow at 3 pm.

Madagascar clash with Malawi at the UJ while South Africa and Eswatini face off in Dobsonville.
