CZI Hits Back At RBZ

By A Correspondent- The Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries (CZI) has hit back at Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) governor John Mangudya’s suggestion that their position on the crumbling local currency was misinformed.

It warned that the economy faces a total collapse if government insists on foisting the rapidly weakening local currency on the market when it is obvious that it is no longer viable.

Mangudya came out guns blazing Saturday, strongly criticising the lobby group and said instead of removing the Zimdollar, government was actually in the process of dedollarising.

But CZI escalated the situation Sunday, warning the Zimdollar was on the “brink of rejection in the face of exchange instability and increasing inflation”.

In its position paper on the sensitive issue leaked to the media on Friday, CZI called on the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) to suspend the foreign currency auction system after the Zimdollar fell to $350 against the greenback whose official interbank rate stands at $155.

The suggestion left Mangudya seething with anger. He issued a strongly worded statement that the auction system would remain because suspending it would cause shortages of goods on the market and abet inflation.

But an unperturbed CZI president Kurai Matsheza Sunday said there was need for a compromise.

“I think the route of discussion and engagement should be open and we all are really positive that these engagements will take us forward. I don’t think authorities will not listen to us. They may have a position, but I am sure that position can be debated and common ground can be found,” he said.

“I am sure they will listen to what we have highlighted in that paper and they will engage. We are not saying that they can adopt 100% of the recommendations, some of them can be picked, but I am sure that common ground can be found.”

Should the status quo remain, Matsheza said: “I am sure some will have difficulty to continue operating, it is going to be difficult. But, look, the situation has been difficult for the Zimbabwean operating environment and I am sure some may actually find it difficult to continue.”

CZI was adamant in its position paper that getting the price of foreign currency right was fundamental to Zimbabwe’s economic development.

“An overvalued Zimdollar broadly undermines the scope for maximising structural efficiency and the growth of both the export industry and import substitution,” it said.

“The policy of maintaining an overvalued Zimdollar imposes a big tax on the export industry undermining its growth and transparency. The policy also unwittingly subsidises imported industrial goods that then start competing unfairly for supermarket space with locally manufactured goods and accelerates deindustrialisation.”

CZI also suggested that foreign currency retentions be financed through the budget and that banks encourage exporters to freely set reserve prices and sell their foreign currency on the auction system.

The group also suggested that the central bank should do away with the foreign currency priority list and liberalise the market, while also keeping tight control on money supply.

It also called for RBZ to suspend quasi-fiscal activities which increase money supply growth and create market distortions or arbitrage opportunities.

Mangudya responded: “Government and the bank (RBZ) are committed to an orderly de-dollarisation process and, hence, it is false that a mono-currency system is now in place. The foreign exchange auction system remains in place and will not be suspended as doing so will cause shortages of goods on the market and abet inflation. All foreign exchange accounts are safe and the bank has no reason or appetite to ‘raid’ the accounts as alleged in the CZI paper.”

As a result of the Zimdollar depreciation and rising inflation, prices are soaring almost daily as businesses try to maintain the value of goods and services.

The annual inflation rate, in particular, reached 72,7% as of last month.

Renowned American economist, Steve Hanke, gave the country the highest inflation rate in the world at the start of last week.

“I measure Zim’s inflation every day with PPP and high-frequency data. At 189%/yr, it has surpassed Venezuela and soared to the top of my #WeeklyWatchlist. According to my precise measurements, Zim is now the not-so-proud owner of the highest annual inflation in the world,” he wrote in a tweet dated April 17.

In a tweet on Friday, Hanke said Zimbabwe’s annual inflation rate was now at 207%.

“Zimbabwe’s government is so crooked that its own anti-corruption commissioner was fired for being corrupt. This story is ironic with a capital ‘I’. Speaking of ‘I’, consider inflation. In Zimbabwe, inflation no laughing matter. Today, I measure Zimbabwe’s inflation at 207%/yr. That’s a 1yr high,” he said.

Bus Operators Plead With ZACC To Arrest Real Criminals

Bus operators have challenged the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) to deal with some soldiers, police officers and Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) officers who are allegedly facilitating the smuggling of goods instead of arresting “soft” targets.

This comes after ZACC impounded nine buses during the ongoing blitz against smuggling.

One of the bus operators, who declined to be named, told NewsDay that one of the buses impounded by ZACC was an inter-city bus operating between Beitbridge and Harare. Said the bus operator:

My bus was caught in that blitz operates from Dulivhadzimo bus terminus in Beitbridge and not across the border.

Obviously, most of our clients are people from South African trips, but it is not my duty to ask for a declaration form.

We simply load the goods on the bus and whether these people have gone through the border to declare their goods is not our business as bus operators.

After all, we hear these people pay soldiers and police to cross with their stuff.

ZACC is coming to the soft target; it should be dealing with soldiers, police and other security agents who are facilitating this smuggling.

How do the goods cross where these officers are patrolling? That is where ZACC should be probing.

The contraband found on the buses included an assortment of alcoholic drinks, blankets, bags containing new clothes, shoes, washing powder and energy drinks.

Meanwhile, ZACC spokesperson John Makamure said those bus operators whose buses were impounded can argue their cases in court.-newsday

ZEC To Stop Issuing Voters’ Roll On CDs

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) says it will discontinue issuing copies of the voters’ roll to stakeholders on CDs.

ZEC said that the move is to help protect people’s personal data from being shared via social media platforms.

In the past, ZEC had been issuing the voters roll to election stakeholders so that they can analyse it.

ZEC spokesperson Commissioner Jasper Mangwana said that instead of the voters’ roll on CDs, ZEC will be creating an interactive online portal that it will be monitoring. Said Mangwana:

In the future, we are not going to issue the voters’ roll on CDs to candidates and stakeholders.

We are going to create an online portal that is searchable because the voters roll is supposed to be searchable, and this portal can be monitored by ZEC you will be issued with login details to access it and the portal will send an OTP to a local number only.

However, Team Pachedu said the move would be illegal and will make it impossible to audit the voters’ roll. Tweeted Team Pachedu:

Jasper Mangwana says that ZEC will soon stop issuing voters’ rolls on CDs.

ZEC wants to create a monitored online portal where records can only be searched one at a time and will only be accessible in Zimbabwe.

This is illegal and will make auditing impossible!

ZEC and Team Pachedu are involved in a dispute on the issue of the ZEC server which Team Pachedu claims is being hosted by Africom, a company owned by the Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF).

Mangwana denies that the ZEC server is hosted by Africom, saying it is not in a location that was alleged by Team Pachedu.

Analysts Warn Chamisa Over Elective Congress

Opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) may diminish its image as a vanguard of democracy if it maintains its stance on not holding an elective congress before 2023 general elections, analysts have indicated.

CCC has said it will not succumb to external pressure to hold a  congress although it says consultations with citizens about the issue were still in progress.

Analysts insist that CCC will be handicapped in challenging Zanu PF on democracy if it continues to be run by an interim executive.

Political analyst Methuseli Moyo said: “A congress is what constitutes a party, appoints persons into position to exercise power and administration of party affairs. One wonders how CCC will constitute itself and delegate authority to office bearers.

“Without a congress, CCC remains a collection of friends deploying each other into positions. As such, they would be handicapped to challenge Zanu PF on any issue to do with democracy and procedure.

“In a nutshell, CCC must go to congress before elections to legitimise itself. It can’t take over power when it has not been mandated by anyone. As things stand, CCC is a party in-the-making, and only a congress can constitute a party.”

Another political analyst Vivid Gwede said holding a congress was important for democracy and nothing should override that.

“It is true that a congress may be divisive for CCC ahead of the 2023 elections.  But the quest for political change should not trump the imperative for elected leadership as the cornerstone of representative democracy,” Gwede said.

CCC interim spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere, however, said the party was carrying out nationwide consultations, the results of which will be made available to the public at the appropriate time.

Said Mahere: “Our priority at the moment is making sure we do the work to win Zimbabwe for change in 2023 and form the next government — not the pursuit of internal positions. We are all change champions who have been tasked with working to mobilise the masses to register to vote, vote and defend the vote next year.

“The CCC is a citizens’ movement that is introducing a new way of doing politics in Zimbabwe with a specific focus on putting the citizens first in all decision making. The citizens are being consulted about the next steps concerning our internal processes and the outcome of these deliberations will be communicated at the appropriate time.”

She added that the party would not be pushed into a corner by those who have different priorities.

“Zimbabweans have suffered enough and all citizens’ hands must be on deck to fight for lasting change and transformation for the nation,” she said.

Exiled former minister Jonathan Moyo challenged CCC to hold an elective congress as this was according to the dictates of the country’s supreme law.

“The CCC is saying no vacancies and no congress of any kind. CIO (Central Intelligence Organisation) wants to infiltrate us; maybe a people’s convention, get the nomenclature right. But a citizen’s convention is better nomenclature. Wait, CIO can only infiltrate a congress; not a convention since it’s American, right,” Moyo tweeted.

CCC deputy spokesperson Gift Siziba last week said CCC had no plans of holding a congress as Zanu PF plotted to infiltrate their movement.

“Let me clear this once and for all, there are people who are motivated by Zanu PF, to imagine and think that we are going for a congress. Look we are a new political organisation, we do not hold congresses and we have no intention to hold congress.

“In CCC, the congress does not exist …it is in the headquarters of Zanu PF and CIO, who in their imagination think we are going to have a congress and they can deploy their people,” Siziba said.

Zanu PF director of communications Tafadzwa Mugwadi said the infiltration claims by the opposition were an indicator that Zanu PF is everywhere.

“Are they suggesting that with that claim they are also Zanu PF? Zanu PF will be glad to hear that the organisation which claims to be the biggest opposition is now claiming that it has Zanu PF membership within it,” Mugwadi
said.

“But most importantly, it is their fear of leadership acrimony which continues to dog the organisation, the leadership acrimony which they carried from their old party MDC. They are clueless. They don’t have a constitution, and they claim that the citizens are the structures, but surprisingly they carry the titles which they had when they were in the MDC Alliance.”

Fuel Prices Up Again

By A Correspondent- The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) has announced new diesel and petrol prices effective 25 April 2022.

Diesel now costs US$1.71 and ZWL$264.77 per litre while the price of petrol has been increased to US$1.63 and ZWL$252.40 per litre.

In a public notice, ZERA said prices have been set in accordance with oil price patterns on the international market. Part of the notice reads:

Prices have been set in accordance with oil price patterns on the international market, which the Authority is continuously monitoring. The public and operators are advised that the blending ratio is now at E10.

Operators may sell petroleum products below the prescribed prices depending on their trading advantages and should display prices in a prominent place as provided for by the fuel pricing regulations.

Before this latest price adjustment, the price of diesel was US$1.60 and ZWL$213.90 per litre while the price of petrol was US$1.59 and ZWL$213.49 per litre.

Zim Footballer Dies In UK Car Crash, Twin Brother In Critical Condition

By A Correspondent| One of Zimbabwe’s promising footballer Kudakwashe Mdianyama died in a car crash that happened in Derbyshire United Kingdom in the early hours of Saturday.

Kudakwashe’s twin brother Simba survived the crash but is reportedly in a critical condition in hospital, according to Team Zimbabwe UK where the two were part of a football developmental side.

Kudakwashe was a promising footballer who featured in the Team Zimbabwe UK under 17.

He also participated in a UK AFCON tournament where they beat African giants Nigeria and Morocco on their way to being crowned champions.

“We have just received sad news from Coventry. One of our players Kuda, one of the twin brothers from the Under 17 Squad, has passed away following a car accident here in the UK. We’re told the other twin brother Simba is also critically ill in hospital, battling for his life,” reads a message shared in one of Zimbabwe diasporans WhatsApp groups.

No ZINARA Penalties For Vehicle Owners

By A Correspondent- The Zimbabwe National Road Administration (ZINARA) said that vehicle owners who are behind in their vehicle licence payments will be allowed clear arrears without incurring any penalties during the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair from 26 to 30 April.

ZINARA public relations and marketing manager Tendai Mugabe said the offer to motorists is part of the ZITF promotion held annually.

He urged vehicle owners with arrears to take advantage of this window period to pay their vehicle licences at minimum cost.

Motorists can make payments at any ZINARA office or agent across the country. Said, Mugabe:

We want to encourage motorists who have arrears to take advantage of this window period to regularise their vehicle licences at ZINARA offices or that of our licensing agents countrywide.

Mugabe also said ZINARA would give tollgate exemption coupons to motorists who are up to date with payment of their licences during ZITF. He said:

As ZINARA, we salute all motorists who are paying their vehicle licences because this has enabled us to make timely disbursements to road authorities.

We are also appealing to road authorities to expedite their acquittal processes to accelerate the refurbishment of our road network.

Living Under The Spectre Of Mnangagwa’s Captured Courts

By Jacob NgarivhumeI was arrested on 20th July 2020 in Harare after I specifically called for peaceful anti-corruption protests.

The completely unimaginative Mnangagwa dictatorship resorted to its usual allegations, calling our protests a Western-inspired conspiracy. Using their tired and well-worn tactics, my colleagues and I were labelled as puppets of the West who, by protesting, were selling out the country to the whites.

Such ludicrous accusations do not fool Zimbabweans. They know that the cancerous corruption of the ruling party elite is responsible for our daily struggle to put food on the table.

When I was arrested on trumped up charges of inciting violence, I was imprisoned for 45 days before being brought before the courts.

Nearly two years have since passed, but they have refused to bring me to trial because it suits the regime and its captured courts to hold me in judicial ‘perjury’. Since 2020, I have been summoned to the courts every two weeks. I am made to report to the police weekly. And I had to surrender my passport.

Death threats that came intermittently, now come regularly. Virtually every second day I receive a threat on my phone.

When the state changed both the magistrate and prosecutors responsible for my case, I received a message that seemed to celebrate the fact that I was now in the hands of the state’s longest knives who will soon convict me and send me back to Chikurubi.

One such text threatened me with unspeakable actions, which the CIO are planning against me and my close family.

The regime’s most deliberately debilitatingly act, however, has been to deny me a livelihood, putting unbearable strains on my family, especially my children’s education.

As I manage a research institute that operates regionally and internationally, it is essential that I am able to travel. But since the state took possession of my passport two years ago as a condition of bail, I have been unable to work.

Last month my research company was commissioned for a US$100 000 education research programme in Southern Africa. I was required to travel to Zambia to conduct an inception training workshop for the team responsible to implementing the project.

Given that I have always attended court and reported faithfully to the police, my legal team approached the High Court seeking the temporary release of my passport so that I could travel to Zambia for just one week to carry out the training.

But rather than a sympathetic hearing over a spurious case that has been pending trial for two years, the state prosecutor opposed our application, and the High Court dismissed it, agreeing that I was a flight risk because my trial is still pending.

\This is unconscionable. But should we be surprised? While at the High Court I overheard the prosecutor conversing with fellow state lawyers that she had instructions to oppose our application and that it would be declined.

The ‘instruction’, according to her, was final and the High Court justice would be obliged to rule against us; of that she was certain.

Twenty-four hours later our application fell through. While I have been waiting for the opportunity to face my accusers and prove my innocence, the state has given excuse after excuse to delay my trial.

While I chose not to flee like a coward and remain steadfast in the face of provocations, the courts have allowed themselves to be shamelessly suborned to the will of their predatory political masters.

In democracies, independent courts and their judicial officers not only uphold the law, but the very justice demanded of society.

They stand as the last bulwark of the citizen against the tyranny of corrupt and repressive regimes.

But in our country, the courts have become contemptible accomplices to the oppression that bedevils us all.

The magistrate overseeing my case in the lower court is apparently ready to convict me. I have been informed that I am, as a matter of certainty, going back to Chikurubi.

Two other prosecutors have said that the ‘instruction’ for conviction has been given, and that it is only a matter of time – of their choosing – before I return to prison.

Inevitably I feel deeply troubled and trapped.But this only makes our liberation all the more urgent! We must never give in to tyranny! We must, by all means, take the fight to the villainous Zanu-PF and against all those state institutions and functionaries – especially the security services, ZEC and the courts – that serve the dictatorship.

We must make an uncompromising stand for democracy and justice, and wipe the board clean of our corrupt oppressors.

More Suffering As Zim Dollar Falls Big-Time

By-The Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries has warned of more economic woes falling the falling of the local Zimbabwean dollar against the United States dollar.

 CZI last week released its position paper where it urged the RBZ to suspend the foreign currency auction system and fully liberalise the foreign exchange market after the Zimdollar fell to $350 against the US dollar on the parallel market.

In his response to the CZI position paper on Saturday, 23 April, RBZ Governor John Mangudya said CZI was misinformed and the paper should be disregarded.

Mangudya insisted that the foreign currency auction system will remain in place because suspending it would cause shortages of goods on the market and abet inflation.

However, on Sunday, 24 April, CZI president Kurai Matsheza said there is a need to find common ground, otherwise, if the status quo is maintained, some companies could collapse. Said Matsheza:

  1. The auction should be suspended until the backlog is cleared and published as such
  2. The Auction requires independent supervision along with the RBZ. This can include a Chartered Accountancy Firm and a professional registered auctioneer. This serves to address the rapid trust injection required to stabilize the Z$
  3. Allow the currency auction to perform a price discovery role for the efficient allocation of foreign currency. This implies true Dutch Auction Principals as originally envisaged are implemented. The highest bids get full allocation within the regulated limits. This will curb abuse of the auction by unscrupulous players in the market, as well as eliminate the premiums and discounts being applied on the official rate. It would further increase flows of foreign currency into the formal system through the participation of willing sellers.
  4. Auction what is adjudged independently to be available.
  5. Foreign currency retentions must be financed through the budget.
  6. Banks must encourage exporters to freely set reserve prices and sell their foreign currency on the auction system.
  7. Policy must do away with the priority list and liberalise the market.
  8. High level multi-sectoral meeting that must find a solution for agricultural financing. Banks CEO’s, RBZ, Ministry of Agriculture and Ministry of Finance must be closed in a room in Vic Falls until they find a solution that removes the burden of funding agriculture on printing money.
  9. Tight control of money supply through holding constant the stock of money circulating in the economy and implementing reserve and broad money targeting.
  10. Suspension of all quasi-fiscal activities which have an effect of increasing money supply growth and creating market distortions or arbitrage opportunities

Karombe Killed By Army-Truck 7 Months After Passion Java Announced He’s The Last Mbinga in SA

The ZANU PF activist spoke glowingly of the man said to be a rich mbinga saying he is his good friend.

7 months ago, Java announced him as the last Zimbabwean mbinga in South Africa. Mbingas are people who reveal sudden riches obtained from criminal sources after engaging in Satanic rituals.

The accident happened along Beatrice Road and it was a head on collision with the army truck. Details trickling in suggest that the army lost control and swerved into his lane causing the crash.

Obert, who was referred to as a ‘mbinga’, had recently engaged for marriage, one Kumbirai Ellen Bosha, fondly known as African Goddess.

He is survived by his wife and 2 children.

WHOSE DUTY IS IT TO CREATE EMPLOYMENT IN A COUNTRY.

BY DR MASIMBA MAVAZA | Prophet Makandiwa was at the end of the hot wire being abused and insulted for saying that the government does not create jobs. He went on to say that the government only ensures that the environment is conducive. Prophet Makandiwa was very correct and to the point. The World Bank’s World Development Report on Jobs indicates that most jobs are created in the private sector and are often the driver, rather than outcome, of economic growth. It is the duty of the government to provide key services like health, education and a good investment climate, this can help create the right jobs that will lead to improved standards of living and inclusive growth. Prophet Makandiwa touched the apple of an eye when he said it is not the duty of the government to create employment.
Job industry is broken down into two categories. These are the public sector which are the government jobs and the private sector which is free market jobs.
Government has an insatiable appetite for power and control. It also holds the monopoly on force and coercesion. In its quest for growth and control over the people it has forever expended its reach into every aspect of our lives. This has resulted in an endlessly expanding, often redundant and invasive bureaucratic structure. There is not one person, place or thing that is untouched by government overreach. This takes money and since the government cannot produce wealth it lives like a giant leech drawing the lifeblood out of the economy weakening the body of our free market and our freedom. Government jobs produce nothing and by their existence diminish the ability of the people to exercise their liberty.
In the private sector productive activities in the free market generate wealth. This is how truly productive jobs are created. As the economy expands jobs are created and we all benefit from the added wealth. Government is like a millstone around the neck of economic growth.
The government creates jobs by creating an Environment that encourages sustainable business growth. The worst thing a government can do, long term, is to increase government employment. As a general rule government does not produce a sellable product. That equates to a drain on resources that could. Improve the market.
Government payroll is funded by tax payers. Tax dollars come out of every citizens pocket. That reflects on demand for products. A lower demand for products is reflected in a lower creation of new jobs.
We must always remember that Government is not reason, it is not eloquence, it is force; George Washington likens it to “like fire, a troublesome servant and a fearful master. Never for a moment should it be left to irresponsible action.” There are certain things that government cannot do and must not attempt. The most important thing it cannot do is create wealth it cannot produce any means of creating wealth and though it has tried every effort by government to produce wealth in the market economy has met with disaster. Government does make jobs available to those that should serve the public interest but these jobs are not wealth creating jobs. They are in fact the opposite. In every act by government there is a loss of productivity and wealth generation. Government loves to expand its power by creating growth slowing, never ending parasitic bureaucracies that live off the wealth creators.
While it is true that jobs are created by the public sector the government can create jobs in teaching jobs, post office jobs, public defending jobs, army, police and all civil service posts. Those alone are not enough to support an entire nation, but they are nonetheless jobs for millions of people.
In the private sector, the government can allow for conditions that “generate” jobs. Maybe that entails lowering corporate taxes, or maybe it entails maintaining a strong infrastructure.
In addition to that, the government can create demand for private sector jobs by investing in things such as infrastructure. (i.e. funding the construction of the transcontinental railroad system thus creating demand for construction, manufacturing, mining, farming and many things.
So, yes (in theory) the government can create jobs or (more importantly) create demand for jobs.
Many people in Zimbabwe have developed a belief that the government is supposed to create jobs for its citizens. This is the culture planted in people’s minds by the opposition propaganda. The government must well inform its people and impart skills which should be developed so that individuals become ready to be employed.
World over the government does not create jobs. It has become a decampaining slogan by the opposition and a lie which has been fed into the youth that they are unemployed because of the government. but there are many issue in between.
The term well-informed and skill set are fashionable but the thing is a basic level of info has to be there to get things done.
Government has to work on psyche of people also as in many places getting a job is more reputed than being a businessman so it is the duty of the government to change the mindset of the people from office orientation to self belief and self sufficiency. its not about money its about definition and definitions can be changed but that depends,DO people want to change their mind set or not and is changing the definitions should be even there or not . The opposition has corrupted the mindset of the youth such that the youth now seriously believe that they are let down by the government. The government does mot employ or create employment. The whole country can not be civil servants. Job creation needs a conducive environment and Zimbabwe has been fighting cruel and crippling sanctions since 1998. The opposition in its several names has supported sanctions against Zimbabwe to make the environment not conducive for job creation. Why because they want the people to believe that ZANU PF has failed. So the truth of the matter is that the government is not supposed to create jobs they need to focus on governance
Government is responsible for the overall welfare of its citizens, this is true. But it is not a one way traffic affair. Compliance to governance by the citizens and ensuring productivity and financial buoyancy of the state is a responsibility of every citizen hence the ruling snd opposition has to function with accountability from citizens so that every body contributes to the wellbeing of a nation.
unfortunately in Zimbabwean type of democracy people misguide citizens by giving freebies and rope in their vote share. This should be made illegal and punishable. Actually this is vote buying and under Zimbabwean laws it is illegal. If people are to understand that job creation is for all and
when economic buoyancy is restored and improved there will be jobs opportunities and after that anybody unemployed should be sent to serve the nation in defence paramilitary and social security activities compulsorily. This will ensure that everyone will do some job to live.
all employment exchanges should be given targets and accountabilities to even undertake recruitment to private sector. Labour laws and labour accountability should be fixed and no union should be allowed to interfere with the functioning of any organisation but can go to labor court for any grievances. No strikes and zindabad should be allowed.

Lest we forget, the opposition carried damaging staysways strikes and job stoppages which created a hostile enviroment for job creation. The strikes and work stoppages engineered by the opposition forced many private companies to close down. Coupled with the agonising sanctions the labour environment in Zimbabwe became toxic.
Ironically the same youth which was fooled and paid to punch holes in their future by destroying the economy through sanctions are the ones now being told that their unemployment is as a result of mismanagement of funds by ZANU PF. This has been the campaigning point by the opposition. The truth must be said it is not the duty of the government to create employment. Yes it does have some employment to offer but it is just a fraction of national employability.
The government provides the employment judtice system through labour courts. All labour disputes only through fast track labour court by a clearly drafted law foccusing on both labour welfare and productivity. These fast track courts should ensure that no exploitation of any kind by any management happens. This is part of governance and is what the government of Zimbabwe is doing.
One of Zimbabwe’s prominent pastor Prophet Makandiwa was in the firing line when he said “government does not create jobs” his statement was met with unforgiving satanic attacks from the opposition. Unfortunately Makandiwa was right in his statement. We can still ask questions like “Can government create jobs? Does the state have a role in facilitating job creation? Or should it just get out of the way of business, cutting red tape and taxes so entrepreneurs can grow the economy?
The question of the state’s role in the economy has traditionally been one of the big dividing lines between the political Left and Right. However, there has been something of a consensus across the political spectrum that low taxes, light touch regulation, and a small state are the key ingredients for economic success. Proponents of more state intervention in the economy argue that only government can reduce growing inequalities, ensure fair distribution of public services like gas and electricity, and ensure quality, well-paid jobs. Critics of state intervention, meanwhile, point to the failed economic policies. We must understand that job creation is “the role of individuals and businesses. The politicians can use our money, collected through taxes to create jobs but that is nothing to do with the economy and everything to do with politics. We are the masters of our economy. If we celebrate the failures of the government hoping to starve people to rebellion then we are shooting ourselves in the feet.
It is not a binary option. Both opposition and government need to focus on solving the issues facing humanity.
Job creation is no longer simply about creating financial wealth but involves ensuring a sustainable future for the citizens in particular and humanity at large. We must realise that employability is a product consisting of a specific set of skills, such as soft, hard, technical, and transferable. Additionally, employability is considered as both a product (a set of skills that “enables”) and as a process that “empowers” an individual to acquire and improve marketable skills that can lead to gainful employment. This the government is doing by providing education and training.
While it is true that the government can’t create jobs, Zimbabwe’s government passes policies that make it easier for the private sector to create jobs. These are direct laws that make it easier to start business and to invest in Zimbabwe. So, when people blame the government for unemployment (whilst at the same time believing that the government can’t create jobs) they are blaming the government for making it harder for the private sector to create jobs. Looking at this aspect private sector is discouraged by sanctions against Zimbabwe. Who is supporting these sanctions none other than Mr Biti Mr Chamisa and Mr Hopewell Chin’ono. ZANU PF government in the form of the new dispensation have put emphasis on Employability which is the lifelong, continuous process of acquiring experience, new knowledge, purposeful learning, and skills that contribute to improving your marketability for enhancing your potential to obtain and maintain employment through various shifts in the labor market. It is based on a set of individual characteristics. It further put up initiatives of putting attractive conditions in different provinces through devolution fund. This makes each province to use their resources to develop and create employment for people in their provinces. It is not equivalent to employment; rather, it is a prerequisite for gainful employment. Essentially, employability is your relative ability to find and stay employed, as well as make successful transitions from one job to the next, either within the same company or field or to a new one, at the discretion of an individual and as circumstances or economic conditions may dictate. It allows you to identify your strength and weakness so that you use them to enhance you income capacity. It is true that jobs are a cornerstone of development, with a pay off far beyond income alone. They are critical for reducing poverty, making cities work, and providing youth with alternatives to violence and drug abuse. So it is imperative that we tell the youth the truth. You will not simply be employed without some training some self confidence.
Jobs stresses the role of strong private sector led growth in creating jobs and outlines how jobs that do the most for development can spur a virtuous cycle. ZANU PF is aware that poverty falls as people work their way out of hardship and as jobs empower women to invest more in their children and families. Efficiency increases as workers get better at what they do, as more productive jobs appear, and as less productive ones disappear. Societies flourish as jobs foster diversity and provide alternatives to conflict.
A good job can change a person’s life, and the right jobs can transform entire societies. Governments need to move jobs to center stage to promote prosperity and fight poverty. In most countries in the world Private sector accounts for 90 percent of all jobs. So it the duty of every Zimbabwean to make Zimbabwe a fair ground for job creation.
President Emerson Dambudzo MNANGAGWA had emphasised the need for jobs jobs jobs because he-is fully aware that Jobs equal hope. Jobs equal peace. Jobs can make fragile countries become stable jobs are the source of life.
The president has always stated how jobs make cities function better, connect the economy to global markets, protect the environment, and give people a stake in their societies. This is why he supported the artisan miners and give them pride in their job removing the denigrating name “makorokoza” to artisan miners.
Jobs are the best insurance against poverty and vulnerability, ZANU PF in government is playing a vital enabling role by creating a business environment that enhances the demand for labour in mining farming and many sectors.
The economic crisis caused by sanctions and other recent events have raised employment issues to the center of the Zimbabwean politics.
Many Zimbabweans are working, but nearly half work in farming, small household enterprises, or in casual or seasonal day labor, where safety nets are modest or sometimes non-existent and earnings are often meager.
 “The youth challenge alone is staggering. Because of the stigma placed on these jobs by the colonial past many young people are neither working nor studying. They are conditioned to regard employment as being in an office or getting a salary every month. Any income generating or informal income generating venture is despised. We need to move our youth mindset from that thinking.
Our youth should appreciate that farming and self-employment are prevalent and safety nets are modest at best, unemployment rates can be low. Because people look down upon these jobs most people work long hours but cannot make ends meet.Therefore, the quality and not just the number of jobs is vitally important.
To this end with the best interest of the youth at heart the government has identified which jobs would do the most for development given their specific context, and remove or offset obstacles to private sector creation of such jobs.
As we approach 2023 we must refocus. Anything which gives you a steady income should be taken with respect and it is employment.
We must never listen to the opposition when they say your employment is in the hands of the government. The government is there to govern and protect your rights your interests and provide peace.
ZANU PF has made the environment set for employment creation despite the sanctions which are being supported by the opposition.
The spirited efforts by CCC and subversive statements puked by CCC publicist Hopewell Chin’ono are not helping. It is sad that we have people misleading the youth that their future is being soiled. The truth is that the youth have opportunities and their future is safe in the hands of ZANU PF.
We all have a duty to create employment and we must not blame the government. Indeed Prophet Makandiwa challenged us well it is not the duty of the government to employ people.

Bulawayo Man Skins Wife Over Relish Money

By- A Bulawayo’s Nketa suburb man has been arrested for stabbing his wife after a misunderstanding over relish.

Circumstances are that on 17 April, at around 7.25pm, Veronica Phiri (34), who is married to Mehluli Dube (47), arrived home from the city centre and found her husband in the sitting room.

She asked him for money to buy relish and he replied that she should get it from her boyfriend since she was out with him.
Veronica got angry and slapped Mehluli twice on the left cheek. Mehluli responded by picking a kitchen knife and stabbing Veronica on the right shoulder.

He then locked himself in their bedroom.
Veronica called the police who attended the scene and arrested Mehluli.
They recovered the kitchen knife.
Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the incident and urged couples to find better ways of solving their issues.

“I confirm the arrest of Mehluli Dube for stabbing his wife Veronica Phiri on her right shoulder. He is helping the police with investigations and will appear in court soon.
“As police, we are worried about the cases of physical abuse that are emanating because of mistrust and infidelity. In most cases mistrust makes people fight over rumours,” said Inspector Ncube.

Shock As Huge Snake Erupts From Dead Cow, Sucks Blood

By- Villagers in Musita, under Chief Nemangwe’s area in Gokwe, were shocked when a humongous snake, about two metres in length, allegedly emerged from a huge lump which was on the neck of a cow which they were slaughtering.

The snake reportedly started sucking blood from the dead cow for almost an hour before it eventually gave up.

The reptile later slithered into a nearby grassy pasture where it eventually died, according to the villagers.



Chief Nemangwe told B-Metro that those who witnessed the bizarre incident are now living in fear as they believe the snake was a goblin. He said:

What happened is that the cow in question was left in the custody of Mike Muchavazo by one of his neighbours (name supplied) when he relocated to Chegutu last year.

The cow then developed a huge lump on its neck. When Mike (Muchavazo) phoned the owner telling him about the lump, he instructed him to slaughter it and sell the meat.

Muchavazo then asked some villagers to help him slaughter the beast. Added Chief Nemangwe:

While they were busy skinning it, one of the villagers who was wary of the huge lump, pierced it with a knife and shockingly a huge snake sprang out and subsequently started sucking the blood which was dripping from that lump.

Out of fear the villagers ran away in different directions until some gathered courage and came back and tried to remove the snake but without success.

Chief Nemangwe said it is highly unusual that a snake would suck blood from a dead animal. He said:

This is because snakes do not suck blood and don’t even have the mouth structure necessary to do it. A snake bite would be expected to bleed a little bit.

The fact that it came out of the lump and stuck there and started feeding on the dead cow’s blood shows that it was not a real snake.

That is why some people suspected that it was a goblin in the form of a snake.

Scary scenes like these usually indicate that your enemy is sucking your life force through black magic or is trying to harm you in real life in a way that you are not aware of.

Chamisa Celebrates High Court Judge’s Dismissal

By- The Nelson Chamisa’s CCC Bulawayo province is celebrating the sacking of Bulawayo High Court Judge Justice Thompson Mabhikwa.

Mabhikwa was fired by President Emmerson Mnangagwa early this month after a tribunal chaired by retired judge Justice November Mtshiya recommended his removal from office for gross misconduct.

Mabhikwa allegedly had a misunderstanding with his lover, a subordinate, who in a fit of rage, shared pictures of his genitalia in WhatsApp groups.

In 2019, Mabhikwa delivered a judgement that caused the removal of Kambarami as Ward 3 councillor and Bulawayo deputy mayor.

The ruling followed an application by 1893 Mthwakazi Restoration Movement Trust, which had challenged Kambarami’s election as councillor and deputy mayor on the grounds that he had stolen an electricity extension cable.

CCC Bulawayo spokesperson Swithern Chirowodza said that the party, formerly the MDC Alliance, has not forgiven Mabhikwa for the ruling. Said Chirowodza:

Mabhikwa dethroned Kambarami for an alleged criminal conviction the latter had appealed against.

Mabhikwa ignored Section 278 (2) of the constitution which provides that an Act of Parliament must provide for the establishment of an independent tribunal to exercise the function of removing from office mayors, chairpersons and councillors.

Meanwhile, the Bulawayo City Council has not yet readmitted Kambarami to the council chambers despite winning his appeal at the Supreme Court.

Masvingo preacher Isaac Makomichi has said people should respect Advocate Nelson Chamisa as God always promotes the humble.

Reports say Makomichi was in Murehwa where some few people were mocking CCC and the citizens’ President Advocate Chamisa.

“You guys must not hate one another because of politics, that Chamisa you are mocking will surprise you one day, remember Mwari anoropafadza vakazvininipisa uye ivavo vanotukwa nekushorwa ndivo vanowanzo simudzirwa naMwari.Musatuke murume uyu (Chamisa) hamuzive zvakarongwa naMwari,ngatiitei politics asi tisatukane, ” Makomichi reportedly said.

Makomichi becomes the only prophet to sympathise with Adv Chamisa as some prophets are glorifying looters in Zanu PF.

ZANU PF Faces Total Collapse In Mat South

ZANU-PF leadership in Matabeleland South province has said the party will embark on an intensive campaign to get more people to register to vote before the delimitation exercise as the province risks losing over five constituencies.

Delimitation, which is carried out after a population census and is provided for in Sections 160 and 161 of the Constitution, refers to the dividing of the country into constituencies and wards for the purposes of elections and involves coming up with a minimum threshold of registered voters in each of the country’s 210 National Assembly constituencies.

The exercise could see some constituencies with a low number of registered voters being merged with others while some could be split into more than one, subject to the number of registered voters.

The region, which is least represented in Parliament, has 38 parliamentary seats out of 210 constituencies.

Bulawayo has 12 seats with Matabeleland South and Matabeleland North having 13 each.

The remainder of the seats are spread across the other seven provinces outside the Matabeleland region.

It has been previously reported that the Matabeleland region has the least number of registered voters countrywide, a development that could eventually result in the loss of constituencies ahead of the 2023 harmonised elections if the trend remains the same.

According to statistics released by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) recently, Bulawayo has the lowest number of registered voters with 254 630 followed by Matabeleland South with 259 689 registered voters and Matabeleland North standing at 335 851.

Speaking during a provincial coordinating committee (PCC) meeting in Gwanda yesterday, Zanu-PF Matabeleland South provincial chairman, Nqobizitha Mangaliso Ndlovu, said the party has the capacity to retain its seats in the province.

He, however, said more needs to be done to ensure that people register to vote.

“The country is going through three major activities which include the mobile registration exercise, which is being conducted by Civil Registry Department, the biometric voter registration exercise and the population and housing census.

“These are very important exercises and Matabeleland South province however, stands to lose between five to seven constituencies if the voter registration numbers don’t improve,” said Ndlovu.

“We are a stronghold of Zanu-PF and if we don’t take action now to correct the trend we are seeing, we would have let our party down.”

Ndlovu called on party members to encourage the masses to obtain birth certificates and national identity documents for them to be able to register to vote.

“The dispensation that we have been given by President Mnangagwa has relaxed the requirements for obtaining national identity documents. If we don’t take action to correct the trend of low voter registration, we would have let our President down,” he said.

“Let us therefore try as much as we can to save our constituencies in this province.”

Ndlovu said the ruling party has the responsibility to make sure that development initiatives are delivered to the people.

“President Mnangagwa has made sure that provinces have power through devolution. The party constitution confers adequate powers for us to monitor implementation of Government programmes and propose policies for implementation,” he said.

In Matabeleland North, Zanu-PF yesterday held their provincial youth meeting in Lupane during which President Mnangagwa was endorsed as the sole Presidential candidate in next year’s harmonised elections.

The national team that was deployed to monitor and supervise the process were Tonderai Bosha, Mthandazo Sibanda and Munashe Mtutsa.

Alvin Lundy Sinzeka was elected provincial Youth League chairperson. Others who were elected into the provincial executive are: Thubelihle Duke Ncube, Future Mhlanga, Sikhangezile Ndlovu, Allman Ndlovu, Mbongeni Dube, Mpilwenhle Moyo and Shyleen Butau.

According to the 362nd Ordinary Session of the Politburo, it was also noted that Matabeleland North had only male candidates earmarked for the forthcoming provincial nominations.

During yesterday’s meeting, a call was made for aspiring female candidates to submit their CVs for election into the Youth League national executive. –Chronicle

Farmer Killed In Gonyet Accident

A Hurungwe farmer has died after falling from a gonyet ferrying tobacco bales to the market.

The incident happened last week.

The truck was side-swiped by a haulage truck at the 234km peg along the Chirundu-Harare Highway at around 1930 hours on Independence Day.

The deceased, Oliver Chimusimbe (44) is from Headman Nyakasikana village 6 under Chief Chundu.

He was one of the two passengers sitting on top of tobacco bales loaded on a Nissan Atlas vehicle. The other two were in the front seat with Johanne Magame (30) on the wheel.

Mashonaland West acting police spokesperson Inspector Ian Kohwera confirmed the accident.

‘‘The Nissan Atlas truck was coming towards Karoi with a haulage truck coming from the opposite direction. The haulage truck encroached onto their lane causing the accident. The deceased panicked and jumped from the top of the bales and suffered head injuries that resulted in his death,’’ Inspector Kohwera said.

He appealed to farmers to use separate transport from the one ferrying their tobacco. —-Newsday

Business Says Zim Dollar Useless

Zimbabwe’s largest business group has warned that the economy faces collapse if the government insists on foisting the rapidly weakening local currency on the market when it is obvious that it is no longer viable.
The Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries (CZI), which groups some of the country’s biggest companies, upped the ante yesterday, has warned that the Zimdollar was on the “brink of rejection in the face of exchange instability and increasing inflation.”

In its position paper on the sensitive issue leaked to the media on Friday, CZI called on the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) to suspend the foreign currency auction system after the Zimdollar fell to $350 against the reenback against the official rate of $155.

The suggestion seems to have angered RBZ governor John Mangudya, who issued a terse statement that the auction system would remain because suspending it would cause shortages of goods on the market and abet inflation.

However, CZI president Kurai Matsheza yesterday told NewsDay that there was need for a compromise.

“I think the route of discussion and engagement should be open and we all are really positive that these engagements will take us forward. I don’t think authorities will not listen to us. They may have a position, but I am sure that position can be debated and common ground can be found,” he said.

“I am sure they will listen to what we have highlighted in that paper and they will engage. We are not saying that they can adopt 100% of the recommendations, some of them can be picked, but I am sure that common ground can be found.”

Should the status quo remain, Matsheza said: “I am sure some will have difficulty to continue operating, it is going to be difficult. But, look, the situation has been difficult for the Zimbabwean operating environment and I am sure some may actually find it difficult to continue.”

CZI was adamant in its position paper that getting the price of foreign currency right was fundamental to Zimbabwe’s economic development.

“An overvalued Zimdollar broadly undermines the scope for maximising structural efficiency and the growth of both the export industry and import substitution,” it said.

“The policy of maintaining an overvalued Zimdollar imposes a big tax on the export industry undermining its growth and transparency. The policy also unwittingly subsidises imported industrial goods that then start competing unfairly for supermarket space with locally manufactured goods and accelerates deindustrialisation.”

CZI also suggested that foreign currency retentions be financed through the budget and that banks encourage exporters to freely set reserve prices and sell their foreign currency on the auction system.

The group also suggested that the central bank should do away with the foreign currency priority list and liberalise the market, while also keeping tight control on money supply.

It also called for RBZ to suspend quasi-fiscal activities which increase money supply growth and create market distortions or arbitrage opportunities.

Mangudya responded: “Government and the bank (RBZ) are committed to an orderly de-dollarisation process and, hence, it is false that a mono-currency system is now in place. The foreign exchange auction system remains in place and will not be suspended as doing so will cause shortages of goods on the market and abet inflation. All foreign exchange accounts are safe and the bank has no reason or appetite to ‘raid’ the accounts as alleged in the CZI paper.”

As a result of the Zimdollar depreciation and rising inflation, prices are soaring almost daily as businesses trying to maintain the value of goods and services.

The annual inflation rate, in particular, reached 72,7% as of last month.

Renowned American economist, Steve Hanke, gave the country the highest inflation rate in the world at the start of last week.

“I measure Zim’s inflation every day with PPP and high-frequency data. At 189%/yr, it has surpassed Venezuela and soared to the top of my #WeeklyWatchlist. According to my precise measurements, Zim is now the not-so-proud owner of the highest annual inflation in the world,” he wrote in a tweet dated April 17.

In a tweet on Friday, Hanke said Zimbabwe’s annual inflation rate was now at 207%.

“Zimbabwe’s government is so crooked that its own anti-corruption commissioner was fired for being corrupt. This story is ironic with a capital ‘I’. Speaking of ‘I’, consider inflation. In Zimbabwe, inflation no laughing matter. Today, I measure Zimbabwe’s inflation at 207%/yr. That’s a 1yr high,” he said. –Newsday

Pressure Group Pushes For ZEC Reforms

A local think-tank, the Zimbabwe Democracy Institute (ZDI), says state institutions such as the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) and judiciary need to be de-militarised and depoliticised to ensure credible elections in 2023.

In a recent report titled “Deterrence of the Zambian Precedent in Zimbabwe”, the ZDI argued that action needs to be taken to secure a smooth transfer of power if the opposition wins local elections.

Last year, Zambian opposition leader Hakainde Hichilema’s United Party for National Development (UPND) defeated the Patriotic Front led by Edgar Lungu, a development that was viewed as a victory for democracy by Zimbabwe’s opposition.

However, speaking after the Zambian elections, President Emmerson Mnangagwa said what happened across the Zambezi River will not happen in Zimbabwe.

The ZDI report said the involvement of the military in Zimbabwe’s politics and its alleged control of various key institutions was a threat to the transfer of power to the opposition. The report reads in part:

One key narrative is that top ZANU PF leadership positions are filled by retired members of the security apparatus and this legacy has been preserved from (the late former President Robert) Mugabe to the Mnangagwa regime.

This has enabled the military to be directly involved in ZANU PF political activities. Second is the narrative that security forces and ZANU PF are Siamese twins operating through an injure one injure all modus vivendi.

The military elite controls the electoral and transition politics using either the indirect route, using ZANU PF and retired components, or directly through hands-on military operations.

The Joint Operations Command (Joc), a military elite structure combining heads of the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA), the Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO), the Air Force, and the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has been depicted as the apex decision-making body in Zimbabwe that steers the electoral and transition politics in ZANU PF and government.

The report also said that the military uses veiled threats to instil fear in voters and induce self-censorship. Reads the report:

Another strategy has been the use of military deterrence measures to encourage self-censorship and fearful voters.

Such military deterrence strategies include declarations by the military elite reiterating that Zimbabwe is a military state and that ZEC is indeed militarised.

Moreover, key democracy consolidation institutions such as the legislature, the judiciary, state media, and ZEC have been manipulated to restore and preserve the interests of the ruling military elite.

SADC Mourns SA Flood Victims

The Southern African Development Community (SADC) has commiserated with South Africa following the loss of hundreds of lives and destruction of infrastructure due to floods in KwaZulu Natal Province.

In a statement, President of Malawi and SADC chairperson Lazarus Chakwera said SADC stands with South Africa as the country makes effort to recover from the natural disaster. Chakwera said:

SADC conveys its heartfelt condolences to the people and Government of the Republic of South Africa and the bereaved families and wishes those injured a quick recovery.

SADC stands in solidarity with the Government of South Africa and those affected by this disaster, as they undertake efforts to recover from the impacts of this disaster.

I wish to commend the Government of the Republic of South Africa and all those supporting the Government’s efforts for the unwavering dedication to saving lives and helping those affected by the disaster.

May I also call upon all our stakeholders and partners, within and beyond the region, to continue to support the recovery efforts, and provide the humanitarian assistance that is urgently required while also supporting the Government to build back better.

He also urged SADC countries to put in place measures that will reduce the effects of climate change on the region. Said Chakwera:

May I also call upon the SADC Member States to continue to put in place measures to scale up the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (2015-2030) by strengthening early warning capacities and capabilities, ensuring preparedness and enhanced resilience, while also promoting sustainable utilisation of the environment including reforestation and afforestation, as environmental integrity is critical for regulating and reducing the impacts of climate change and floods.

This should be coupled with our regional efforts to expeditiously operationalise and adequately resource regional coordination mechanisms to ensure coordinated efforts in dealing with natural and manmade disasters moving forward.

Heavy rains caused massive floods and landslides that killed more than 400 people in South Africa over a week ago.

Families have begun to hold funerals for those who died in the floods in KwaZulu-Natal but others are still searching for loved ones.

Bosso, FC Platinum Match Abandoned

The Castle Lager Premier Soccer League clash between and FC Platinum and Highlanders at Mandava, was abandoned due to crowd trouble on Saturday.

The two sides were level at 1-1 when referee Kuzivakwamwari Jaravaza awarded the hosts a penalty in the 82nd minute, after Peter Muduwa was adjudged to have fouled Walter Musona in the box.

However, the contact seemed to have happened outside the area with the FC Platinum player losing his footing when he got into the box.

Highlanders players protested the decision and their fans responded by invading the pitch targeting one of the assistant referees.

Police details were quickly deployed and a protracted standoff led to the firing of tear gas inside the stadium.

The battles continued outside the ground, while the players and officials sought sanctuary in the dressing rooms.

Effects Of Air Pollution

Almost the entire global population (99%) breathes air that exceeds WHO air quality limits, and threatens their health.

A record number of over 6000 cities in 117 countries are now monitoring air quality, but the people living in them are still breathing unhealthy levels of fine particulate matter and nitrogen dioxide, with people in low and middle-income countries suffering the highest exposures.

The findings have prompted the World Health Organization to highlight the importance of curbing fossil fuel use and taking other tangible steps to reduce air pollution levels.

Released in the lead-up to World Health Day, which this year celebrates the theme Our planet, our health, the 2022 update of the World Health Organization’s air quality database introduces, for the first time, ground measurements of annual mean concentrations of nitrogen dioxide (NO2), a common urban pollutant and precursor of particulate matter and ozone. It also includes measurements of particulate matter with diameters equal or smaller than 10 μm (PM10) or 2.5 μm (PM2.5). Both groups of pollutants originate mainly from human activities related to fossil fuel combustion.

The new air quality database is the most extensive yet in its coverage of air pollution exposure on the ground.

Some 2,000 more cities/human settlements are now recording ground monitoring data for particulate matter – PM10 and/or PM2.5 – than the last update. This marks an almost 6-fold rise in reporting since the database was launched in 2011.

Meanwhile, the evidence base for the damage air pollution does to the human body has been growing rapidly and points to significant harm caused by even low levels of many air pollutants.

Particulate matter, especially PM2.5, is capable of penetrating deep into the lungs and entering the bloodstream, causing cardiovascular, cerebrovascular (stroke) and respiratory impacts.

There is emerging evidence that particulate matter impacts other organs and causes other diseases as well.

NO2 is associated with respiratory diseases, particularly asthma, leading to respiratory symptoms (such as coughing, wheezing or difficulty breathing), hospital admissions and visits to emergency rooms

WHO last year revised its Air Quality Guidelines, making them more stringent in an effort to help countries better evaluate the healthiness of their own air.

“Current energy concerns highlight the importance of speeding up the transition to cleaner, healthier energy systems,” said Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General. “High fossil fuel prices, energy security, and the urgency of addressing the twin health challenges of air pollution and climate change, underscore the pressing need to move faster towards a world that is much less dependent on fossil fuels.”

Steps governments can take to improve air quality and health
A number of governments are taking steps to improve air quality, but WHO is calling for a rapid intensification of actions to:

adopt or revise and implement national air quality standards according to the latest

WHO Air Quality Guidelines;
monitor air quality and identify sources of air pollution;
support the transition to exclusive use of clean household energy for cooking, heating and lighting;
build safe and affordable public transport systems and pedestrian- and cycle-friendly networks;
implement stricter vehicle emissions and efficiency standards; and enforce mandatory inspection and maintenance for vehicles;
invest in energy-efficient housing and power generation;
improve industry and municipal waste management;
reduce agricultural waste incineration, forest fires and certain agro-forestry activities (e.g. charcoal production); and
include air pollution in curricula for health professionals and providing tools for the health sector to engage.

WHO’s Air Quality Guidelines

The evidence base for the harm caused by air pollution has been growing rapidly and points to significant harm caused by even low levels of many air pollutants. Last year, the WHO responded by revising its Air Quality Guidelines to reflect the evidence, making them more stringent, especially for PM and NO2, a move strongly supported by the health community, medical associations and patient organizations.

The 2022 database aims to monitor the state of the world’s air and feeds into progress tracking of the Sustainable Development Goals.

By A Correspondent= United Kingdom-based Zimbabwean constitutional law expert Alex Magaisa says the newly-formed Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) led by Nelson Chamisa should prioritise the drafting of a constitution, even an interim document, before holding a congress.

This comes after some political commentators, including ZANU PF officials, have suggested that CCC should have an elective congress before the 2023 general elections. We publish Magaisa’s comments below verbatim:

Congress debate: Putting the cart before the horse

1. When they say you’re putting the cart before the horse they mean you’re doing things in the wrong order. You want to buy a wedding gown before your partner has proposed! Everything must follow a process. This is why the debate over the CCC “Congress” is misplaced and misdirected.

2. I’ve been searching for when the “Congress” became an issue of public debate. I took a break over Easter and I probably missed its genesis then. Back to the idiom: an event of the nature described as a “Congress” is the culmination of other foundational processes.

3. The nomenclature of “Congress” is a reflection of how ZANU PF discourse has shaped our political thinking. MDC simply copied & pasted the language & processes of ZANU PF. The organs were similar albeit with minor modifications such as “Youth Assembly” for “Youth League”

4. Where ZANU PF had a Women’s League, the MDC called it Women’s Assembly. For ZANU PF’s Politburo (Soviet-style political bureau) the MDC had the Standing Committee (SC). It’s here where there was a major difference. MDC’s SC was elected while ZANU PF’s Politburo was appointed.

5. But most may not realise that it wasn’t always like this in ZANU PF. The big changes giving the President powers to appoint Politburo members started at its Congress in 1984. It centralised power with Mugabe becoming not just the President but the First Secretary of the party. The Secretary-General role then held by the political maverick Edgar Tekere became redundant. Mugabe was not only centralising power but eliminating competition.

6. Therefore elected members gave way to appointees. The MDC’s National Council is the equivalent of ZANU’s Central Committee the difference again being in appointment and election. However, it’s important to note that the MDC had an appointed National Executive.

7. This digression is meant to demonstrate how the obsession with the discourse of “Congress” is rooted in a political culture established by ZANU PF and copied with some modifications by the MDC. Hence both ZANU PF and the MDC had a “Congress” serving similar roles.

8. It’s therefore perhaps less surprising that this same political discourse is being uncritically exported to the CCC. What if the CCC is reimagining how it is constituted, far away from this discourse? This is where that idiom of putting the cart before the horse comes in.

9. The organs of a party are creatures of its founding document, the Constitution or the “grund norm”. The roles, functions & powers of these organs are set out in the party’s constitution which is adopted by a special gathering whose role it is to debate & approve the grund norm

10. How this special gathering is constituted and its purpose is a matter for the founding members. Every organisation has founding members. After all, a party is a voluntary organisation with the liberty to make its own rules that best advance its interests and goals.

11. They can choose to have an interim constitution which establishes rules & organs pending the adoption of the final constitution by the body of people given that role by the interim constitution. They might call it a “Congress” but they might decide to change this discourse.

12. It is therefore the proposed constitution of the CCC that will set this discourse. If therefore there’s a matter that should be a priority at this time, it is not what people are pre-occupied with regarding a “Congress” but the question of the party’s constitution.

13. So we return to that idiom: You cannot put the cart before the horse because that would be the wrong order. Once you deal with the constitutional question you will find that current issues are easily resolved because it is the document that will chart the path for the party.

14. I conclude by urging the CCC interim leadership to hasten the pace to establish the set of rules called the constitution, even on an interim basis. These debates and accompanying noises are a reflection of the unsureness that results from a constitutional void.

15. If the CCC wants to transform the political discourse, it has the great opportunity to do so via its constitution. Presently the discourse around “Congress” festers because that is what people are accustomed to from their days in ZANU PF and the MDC. That’s all they know.

Police Hijack City Council Public Toilet

By A Correspondent- In a development that has highlighted how much the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) is incapacitated, Rujeko Police Station in Masvingo urban is reported to have hijacked City Council’s public toilet which is a few meters from the station and is reportedly locking away members of the public who are supposed to be the beneficiaries of the facility.

This came out in a full council meeting held at Town House on April 21 2022 when the recently re-elected ward 7 councilor Richard Musekiwa raised the concern.

Musekiwa said the police post has no toilet of their own, and officers have resorted to using the public toilet which they are reportedly personalizing.

“Police in Rujeko have personalized the public toilet in the suburb yet it is a council-owned property and it should be accessed by the public not the police to make it their property,” said Musekiwa.

He said police have since put a padlock to deprive hundreds of people who ply and stay close to Rujeko A shops.

Ward 8 councilor Against Chiteme also said the police camp should construct their own toilet than depriving residents access to their toilet.

“Rujeko police station should construct their own toilet instead of taking over council property leaving the public without ablution facilities,” said Chiteme.

Masvingo City Council Mayor Collen Maboke said the police station should just be closed as no such institution is allowed to operate without a toilet.

“No one is allowed or should operate without a toilet and those without toilets must be shut down. So if Rujeko police base does not have a toilet, they should just close,” said Maboke.
Efforts to get a comment from acting provincial police spokesperson Sergeant Lloyd Masundire were futile as he was not reachable.

When Minister of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage, Kazembe Kazembe and Commissioner General of Police, Godwin Matanga visited Masvingo in April 2021, they toured police posts including Rujeko and were told that there were lots of shortages in terms of resources in police departments, chief among them being shortage of toilets at many camps.

Officer Commanding Masvingo Province Commissioner David Mahoya told Kazembe and Commissioner General Matanga that the province was faced with shortages of toilets,

ffices, police vehicles, stationery, fuel and accommodation among other things and also said the case of Rujeko police station was worrying saying under normal circumstances, the station would be condemned as there were no toilets as well as office space.

“Literally there is no police station here, there are no toilets, the place is small, officer in charge shares offices with other staffers and no vehicles to deliver services,” said Commissioner Mahoya.

During that visit Kazembe said government was aware of the challenges being faced by the police which include accommodation for officers saying concerted efforts were being made to address that but up to now nothing has materialized.

By elections Were Not Free, Implement Reforms” US Tells Zanu PF – Barking Up The Wrong Tree

By Nomusa Garikai- Zimbabwe is a failed state because it is a pariah state ruled by corrupt, incompetent, and murderous thugs who have rigged elections to stay in power.

42 years and counting of gross mismanagement, rampant corruption and mind-numbing lawlessness and stupidity have left the country in economic ruins, impoverished, and in political paralysis.

The solution is obvious; we need to implement the democratic reforms, dismantle the autocratic de facto one-party, Zanu PF, dictatorship and restore the rule of law and the individual freedoms and rights including the right to free and fair elections.

The challenge is how do we break the mould? After 42 years of the Zanu PF dictatorship it is not surprising the rotten political system is now deeply entrenched.

“We appreciated the opportunity to observe (26 March 2022) by-elections, but remain very concerned about harsh rhetoric, intimidation, and violent assaults in the lead-up to election day. Voters have the right to participate in political processes free from fear and violence. ZIDERA requires Zimbabwe to hold an election ‘widely accepted as free and fair by independent international monitors,’ and to sufficiently improve the pre-election environment to be consistent with international standards,” twittered US Embassy.

“We urge ZEC to publicly release an auditable electronic voters roll far in advance of 2023 elections so that citizens can help to strengthen the credibility of the voters roll and reduce the numbers of potential voters turned away from polling stations.”

The Americans are right, the 26 March 2022 by elections confirmed what we already know – that, unless reforms are implemented, Zanu PF will rig the 2023 elections.

Still, reminding Zanu PF and ZEC what they must do will accomplish nothing because they know about the need for reforms. ZIDERA sanctions were impose 20 years ago on the select few Zanu PF leaders and institutions to coerce the regime to implement the reforms; nothing has changed.

The only time Zanu PF has ever been pressured to implement democratic reforms was during the 2008 to 2013 Government of National Unity (GNU) and it was AU and SADC’s refusal to recognise Zanu PF’s legitimacy following the 2008 elections. The continental body and the regional body were renowned for turning a blind eye to rigged elections not just in Zimbabwe but in the rest of Africa. The blatant cheating and wanton violence in the 2008 Zimbabwe elections were over the top, both AU and SADC had no choice but to condemn the process.

Zanu PF was forced to sign the 2008 Global Political Agreement (GPA), agreeing to the need to implement a raft of democratic reforms designed to restore rule of law and end Zimbabwe’s culture of rigged elections. The GNU, comprising of Zanu PF and the two MDC factions with SADC as the guarantor of the GPA, was tasked to implement the reforms.

It is a great pity that the Americans and the rest of the western nations took their eyes off the ball completely because they did not pressure the GNU to implement the reforms. The chief culprit in failing to implement reforms was Morgan Tsvangirai and his MDC friends, it was incumbent on them and not Zanu PF to implement the reforms. Not even one token reform was implemented in five years of the GNU.

Credit where credit is due, SADC leaders nagged MDC leaders to implement the democratic reforms throughout the GNU but were ignored. The regional leaders tried to get the 2013 elections postponed until reforms are implemented. “If you go into the elections next month, you will lose. The elections are done!” SADC leaders told Morgan Tsvangirai and company to their faces at the SADC Summit meeting in Maputo in June 2013.

As we already know, MDC leaders ignored the warning from SADC leaders. Zanu PF went on to rig the 2013 elections as SADC leaders had predicted. SADC leaders gave up and accepted Zanu PF as the legitimate government and has done so ever since.

As long as MDC/CCC continue to ignore SADC advice to postpone elections until reforms are implemented it is clear that SADC will feel obliged to endorse Zanu PF as the legitimate government. What is more, MDC/CCC leaders themselves have all known that by participating in these flawed elections they are giving Zanu PF legitimacy and have continued regardless out of greed, as David Coltart confessed.

“The worst aspect for me about the failure to agree a coalition was that both MDCs couldn’t now do the obvious – withdraw from the (2013) elections,” wrote Coltart in his Book, The Struggle Continues 50 years of Tyranny in Zimbabwe.

“The electoral process was so flawed, so illegal, that the only logical step was to withdraw, which would compel SADC to hold Zanu PF to account. But such was the distrust between the MDC-T and MDC-N that neither could withdraw for fear that the other would remain in the elections, winning seats and giving the process credibility.”

The two main MDC factions were in the GNU together and still they failed to get even one reform implemented because the leaders are corrupt and incompetent – nothing to do with coalition. The four main MDC factions plus three other opposition parties formed the MDC Alliance just before the 2018 elections and yet they still participated in the elections – further proof the opposition’s continued participation in flawed elections is born of greed.

Nelson Chamisa and his CCC friends constitute the main opposition in Zimbabwe as the 26 March 2022 by election has shown. SADC and AU would certainly sit up and take note if CCC were to boycott the 2023 elections until democratic reforms were implemented.

However, Chamisa and company are not going to boycott the 2023 elections even though it is the “obvious” thing to do, as Coltart readily admitted, for the same reason they participated in the 2013 and 2018 elections and failed to implement even one token reforms during the GNU – greed.

Zanu PF will never ever implement any reforms, the Americans can call for reforms all the want, as long as the party is assured of the CCC continued participation giving it legitimacy. Zanu PF has allowed the opposition to win a few gravy train seats to entice them to participate, to greed their greed.

Indeed, why should Zanu PF implement even one token reforms and risk losing power when the party knows that it will get legitimacy guaranteed from the MDC/CCC participating regardless how flawed and illegal the process got!

Zimbabwe had the golden opportunity to implement the democratic reforms and thud dismantle the de facto one-party, Zanu PF, dictatorship once and for all during the 2008 to 2013 GNU. It is a great pity that the chance was wasted. There are many lessons that must now be learned by us all.

There is very little hope of Zanu PF implementing any meaningful reforms this late, less than two years, before the 2023 elections, especially when the party knows CCC will participate and give the regime legitimacy. The way forward is make sure Zanu PF, CCC, SADC, Zimbabwean voters, everyone is aware of the flaws and illegalities in the elections process and is forced to accept the elections were rigged and the result cannot be legal and legitimate.

We cannot stop the 2023 elections going ahead but what we can do is make sure the outcome is NOT legitimate. An illegitimate 2023 elections will allow for the formation of a new GNU just as the illegitimate 2008 led to the formation of the 2008 to 2013 GNU. No stone will be left upturned to ensure all the democratic reforms are fully implemented during the new GNU.

If the truth be told – and it must – ever since the MDC leaders’ failure to implement even one reform GNU and their stubborn participation in flawed elections out of selfish greed; the blame for Zimbabwe’s failure to hold free elections has shifted from Zanu PF to MDC/CCC. In calling for Zanu PF to implement the reforms, the Americans are barking up the wrong tree!

ZIFA Councillors Okay Kamambo Return

By A Correspondent- The majority of ZIFA councillors on Saturday, 23 April, voted to recall the association’s president, Felton Kamambo, and two other board members, Philemon Machana and Bryton Malandule.

The ZIFA Congress, however, retained the rest of the executive committee and appointed Gift Banda the acting president.

The Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) was presided over by ZIFA lawyer Chenaimwoyo Gumiro. 45 of the 58 Congress members attended the meeting.

Kamambo, Machana, Malandule and Stanley Chapeta were all invited to answer to charges levelled against them but they did not turn up.

Premier Soccer League chairperson Farai Jere, Women’s Soccer League chairperson Barbra Chikosi as well Sugar Chagonda were asked to respond to the charges levelled against them and were all spared the axe.

ZIFA vice president Gift Banda, whose suspension by his colleagues on the board had been lifted a month before the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) suspended the ZIFA board on 16 November 2021, also survived the chop.

The availability of Banda, Jere, Chikosi and Chagonda would ensure that ZIFA would continue to be led by a duly-elected board as the four officials are enough to make a quorum.

Gumiro, however, said the SRC and ZIFA suspensions are still in force. Said Gumiro:

This was an internal process which does not change much regarding the situation on the ground.

The SRC suspension remains in force; the FIFA suspension remains in force.

So what now needs to be done is to ensure or convince the SRC to first lift the suspension of the executive committee and also convince FIFA, because, remember, there is a condition on the FIFA letter that they can only lift the suspension (of Zimbabwe) upon the reinstatement of the Kamambo-led board.

The ZIFA Congress is expected to write to the SRC this week to inform them of the latest developments.

After that, SRC will review the situation before any re-engagement with FIFA happens.

Plumtree Man Up For Murder

By A Correspondent- A Plumtree man who picked a grudge with a drinking mate he accused of assaulting his young brother has been arrested for the murder of the same.

Police in Matabeleland South revealed that they arrested Silvester Ngwenya (30) from Madlambudzi for allegedly killing a drinking  mate Nkosilathi Nleya (48) with a log accusing him of assaulting his 16 year old male cousin.

Matabeleland South Police spokesperson Inspector Loveness Mangena confirmed the murder saying on  April 14 around 3:30 am Ngwenya  was drinking beer at Makhulela 2 business centre, Madlambuzi in the company of Nleya.

She said Ngwenya  asked  Nleya why he had assaulted his cousin, a juvenile aged 16 years. 

“This did not go down well with Nleya  who withdrew an Okapi knife from his pocket and stabbed Ngwenya  once on the right side of the stomach,” said Mangena.

She said a fight ensued resulting in Ngwenya punching Nleya with a fist on the forehead. It is said Nleya  tried to run away but he  fell down and Ngwenya picked a Mopani log and struck Nleya  several times all over the body.

“His brother Sabelo Nleya found  Nleya bleeding and unconscious and took  him to Ndolwane clinic where he was pronounced dead,” she said.

Hailstorm Leaves Trail Of Destruction In Nkayi

By A Correspondent- Several homes, a school, and roads were destroyed by a hailstorm in Nkayi District last week.

Government officials are struggling to assess the extent of the damage caused by heavy rains that began on Wednesday due to inaccessibility and lack of telephone coverage.

Matabeleland North Provincial Affairs minister Richard Moyo told VicFallsLive that the rains affected wards 1, 2, 13 and 14 in villages such as Tsheli, Sobunyonyo, Gampinya and Sovondo. Said Moyo:

The report is true as I have just spoken to Nkayi officials, but the challenge is that there is no (telephone) network (coverage) for us to contact our government representatives on the ground and the road is also inaccessible.

Once the place is reachable, we will give the status of families who lost their homes.

The hailstorm reportedly caused the collapse of a classroom block at Jabulisa Secondary School.

The storm also killed livestock such as goats, sheep and poultry

Moyo advised affected villagers to find safe places to live until they receive help from the Government. He said:

For now, we would like to advise them to stay indoors until we find a way to access them.

We are still not sure about the extent of the damage, but soon we will be there to assist those families.

Meanwhile, Civil Protection Unit acting director Nathan Nkomo said he was not aware of the destruction of infrastructure in Nkayi.

Byo Mulls Stringent Water Shedding Schedule

By A Correspondent- Bulawayo could be forced to re-introduce a stringent water shedding schedule as one of its major supply dams faces decommissioning due to low inflows.

The city has over the past years been forced to resort to water shedding as a means of ensuring that they conserve the available supplies in their dams. It has since emerged that the local authority could be forced to re-introduce the dreaded water shedding as Umzingwane Dam faces decommissioning as it received minimal inflows during the rainy season.

Initially, the dam was expected to have been decommissioned on 31 March but the local authority had to defer it after minimal rains that were recently experienced in the country. 

Bulawayo City Council corporate communications officer Miss Bongiwe Ngwenya said the minimal inflows to the dam had seen council not decommissioning the dam.

“Umzingwane Dam has not yet been decommissioned because it still has some water that was received from the minimal rains that were experienced in the catchment area, however, as soon as we know that it now has to be decommissioned, we shall communicate,” said Miss Ngwenya.

According to the latest council report, the local authority noted that the decommissioning of the dam will result in a reduction of daily water use by 35 megalitres a day.

Umzingwane Dam was projected to be de-commissioned by 31 March 2022 if no significant rainfall occurs that would result in sizeable inflows to the dam. The decommissioning would result in reduced available abstraction by 35 megalitres a day thus affecting total available raw water for delivery to Criterion. Whereas Criterion would receive more than 110 megalitres a day of raw water and produce an average of 100 megalitres for the city reservoir levels to be stable and ensure continuous water supply.

In the event that the decommissioning of Umzingwane occurs, the department proposed an incremental shedding regime to be determined at the time of decommissioning vis-à-vis the would be remaining available abstraction from other dams,” reads the report.

According to the latest dam statistics, as supplied by the local authority, in total the dams are 58.12 percent full with Insiza Mayfair having the most at 78.1 percent full, the dam has a carrying capacity of 173.4 million cubic metres.

Mtshabezi, with a carrying capacity of 51.9 million cubic metres being 75,67 percent full, Lower Ncema, with a carrying capacity of 18,2 million cubic metres is 75,39 percent full and Inyankuni with a carrying capacity of 80,7 million cubic metres is 51,9 percent full. 

Upper Ncema which has a carrying capacity 45,5 million cubic metres is 14,58 percent full while Umzingwane which has a carrying 44,6 million cubic metres is 8,3 percent full. According to the statistics, Upper Ncema is expected to be the next dam to be decommissioned with its depletion date set for 18 August 2022.

The Zimbabwe National Water Authority also recently revealed that an increase in vandalism of power infrastructure feeding in Nyamandlovu’s Rochester water works was also affecting water delivery to the city.

The Government is working on completing the Gwayi-Shangani pipeline by year-end, a move that will give a permanent solution to the city’s perennial water challenges.-sundaynews

Biometric Title Deeds- ED Assures Epworth Residents

By A Correspondent- President Emmerson Mnangagwa has assured Epworth residents that his Government will give them biometric title deeds to regularise their homes.

Mnangagwa on Saturday reaffirmed the promise he initially made when he launched the ZANU PF by-elections campaign in Harare’s dormitory settlement early this year.

Addressing ZANU PF supporters at a rally in Epworth on Saturday, 23 April, to celebrate ZANU PF legislator Zalerah Makari’s by-election victory, Mnangagwa said the process to offer title deeds to residents was delayed by the proliferation of fake title deeds.

He said the title deeds for Epworth residents would be of the same type as the recently introduced electronic passports. Mnangagwa said:

We promised you title deeds, I remember telling you the last time that we had completed the geospatial mapping, which allows us to see the state of the settlement and we were ready to give title deeds.

However, our security told us that some crooks were printing their own title deeds. We had to go back to the drawing table and find a way around that, we are now introducing biometric title deeds with security features.

hese are title deeds which cannot be fraudulently printed by individuals. These title deeds have the same security features as e-passports.

We procured equipment from Germany, which allows us to print secure documents with impenetrable security features.

So far we have ordered for 50  000 to be printed, some of which will be brought here.

Mnangagwa also promised to solve all of Epworth residents’ challenges that were forwarded to him by Makari for action. He said:

Yesterday, your MP (Makari) told me that there is a struggle for water in Epworth.

I have four Presidential borehole drilling rigs, three that are in Harare and one in Binga.

So yesterday around 6 pm I called the team running the scheme and I told them of this event, I told them that they should spend the night drilling one borehole.

I am proud to say by this morning they had completed drilling the borehole and installing the whole system.

It will take time to solve water challenges because there are structural issues which need to be taken care of.

But in the meantime, we will put two boreholes in each of the seven wards in Epworth.

Women Marginalised 42yrs After Independence

By A Correspondent- Civic Society Organisations have lamented that 42 years after independence, women are still marginalised in positions of leadership.

Women Excell Trust (WET) expressed concerns that no significant improvement has been made by the political leadership in including women in positions since independence 42 years ago.

Zimbabwe celebrated 42 Independence Day celebrations at Barbourfields Stadium in Bulawayo this year, the first time since 1980 for such an event to be hosted outside Harare.

“We join the people of Zimbabwe in celebrating 42 years of nationhood, this is a day we take to reflect on the journey we have travelled as a nation state cognisant of the challenges of the day and attentive to our obligation,” the group said.

“The composition of candidates for the by elections indicate that political parties have largely ignored a commitment to a gender balance.”

Over 50k Passports Issued Since January

By A Correspondent- The Registrar-General’s (RG) Office says it has issued over 50 000 electronic passports (e-passports) at its offices in Harare and Bulawayo from January to April this year.

In an interview with The Sunday Mail, the Registrar-General, Henry Machiri, said there are plans to open eight other provincial e-passport offices by the end of June this year. Said Machiri:

We started producing passports on January 18, 2022, and as of today (April 21, 2022), we have issued 51 080 e-passports.

These are e-passports applied for by people in Harare since January and since March for those in Bulawayo.

I can now say that we have enough material and we have ramped up production.

With the current system, the Government signed a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT), whereby GP invests and they will be paid gradually.

So, in terms of consumables, they are now readily available.

He also said the other eight provinces will have passport offices in their provincial centres by 30 June. Machiri said:

The other provincial towns should have these centres by June 30, as was promised by early this year.

We still stand by that date. These are Lupane in Matabeleland North, Gwanda in Matabeleland South, Gweru for Midlands, Masvingo for Masvingo, Mutare for Manicaland, and Marondera for Mashonaland East, Chinhoyi for Mashonaland West and Bindura for Mashonaland Central.

On the issue of the online passport application system, whose booking system is now live, Machiri said the system seeks to shorten the time applicants will spend at the RG offices as they will apply for the documents in the comfort of their homes or offices. He said:

It is ongoing work but I can assure you that before the end of the year, it will be possible that people can apply in the comfort of their offices or homes.

However, this does not mean that one applies and the passport is delivered to their doorstep. A travel document is a secured document and has to be given to the rightful owner.

So one can apply online and be notified of when to come to have their biometric information taken so that we make sure that the information on their passport is correct, this is the international standard.

All this seeks to shorten the time when the client is at our offices.

Opposition Leader Peter Munyanduri Blasts Illiterate Voters

By A Correspondent- The leader of the New Patriotic Front (NPF), a little-known opposition party, Peter Munyanduri, said that voters who will not vote for him in 2023 are illiterate and need voter education.

NPF fielded candidates for Parliament and council in the 26 March by-elections but performed badly, failing to win a single seat.

Writing in his media group, Munyanduri said most voters make the decision about who to vote for based on false election manifestos and fake propaganda. Munyanduri said:

People who will not vote for Munyanduri and NPF in 2023 are democratically illiterate and need voter education. These people do not know what it exactly takes to make Zimbabwe great.

They are victims of false elections manifestos and false propaganda. Munyanduri is definitely the most educated Presidential candidate in Zimbabwe with enormous capacity to improve the economic fortunes of Zimbabweans.

Another New Political Outfit Launched In Harare

By A Correspondent- A new opposition party, the National People’s Congress (NPC) was launched in Harare on Saturday.

The party is led by renowned banker and engineer Wilbert Mubaiwa, who considers his party centralist in nature, and different from other political parties in terms of ideology.

We don’t believe in pointing fingers and fighting other parties; we believe in proffering solutions.

We considered a lot of things before coming up with this new party.

We know that there are more than 100 political parties registered with the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) and we are offering an alternative different from all those political parties.

Mubaiwa, a former MD of Sunway City, said his party values Ubuntu (a quality that includes the essential human virtues; compassion and humanity). He said:

If you see me talking to a ZANU PF leader, it doesn’t mean I am a sell-out.

When you see me dining with Citizen Coalition for Change (CCC) officials, it means there is an osmosis of ideas.

Being in different political parties does not make us enemies.

Gushungo Back Home

By A Correspondent- Mbira musician Tatenda “Gushungo” Gomwe who was previously in South Africa conducting shows is back in the country and has lined up two shows this weekend for his welcome.

Today Gushungo is in Chegutu where he enjoys huge following and is riding high with his newly released  two tracks “Ndidane and Mhondoro which he featured Diana Samukange.

On Sunday Gushungo will be in the capital Harare at Bar Rouge where he will be having a family show.

He told Bulawayo24.com that he is happy to be  back in the country and is taking his music around the country.

“It is always good to be back home and interacting with my fans, this weekend we are touring Mash West Chegutu and Harare but the idea is to go around the country,” Gushungo said.

Gushungo is regarded as Andy Muridzo and Jah Prezah’s copy cat.

Muridzo was first in South Africa and Gushungo also followed both artistes received a warm welcome at the neighbouring country.

Bid To Silence R_ape Victim With 50 Mozambican Meticals Flops

By A Correspondent- Bid to silence a 11 year old with 50 Mozambician meticals hit a brick wall after the victim reported the matter to the police and got the rapist jailed.

Luckmore Makiyoni Chimugwere was sentenced to 14 years by Bindura regional  magistrate Amos Mbobo.

The magistrate suspended two years on condition of good behaviour.

Prosecutor Ngoni Kaseke told the court that on June 10 last year Chimugwere met the complainant at a river in Mukumbura and threatened the victims before  ordering  her to lie down.

He raped her and tried to buy her silence with Mozambican currency after the offense.

Upon being released the victim reported the matter and the rapist was arrested.

Chaos In Zanu PF Youths Meeting

By A Correspondent- Chaos reigned supreme at the Buhera Youth Inter-District meeting at Murambinda Growth Point  yesterday as youths expressed their anger and displeasure over the the candidature of  Vongai  Faith Svova who allegedly doctored  her curriculum vitae.

The 22 year old Svosva allegedly mispresented her status in her curriculum vitae lodged with the Zanu National Office so as to stand a chance to contest in tomorrow’s elections for the Zanu PF National Youth League Executive post.

Manicaland Province has four slots that will make up a forty member National Executive.

Notwithstanding the fact that the Central Committee yesterday made a resolution that one to be eligible to participate in tomorrow’s plebiscite there should have served for at least five years at District level however, Svosva who served as the Chimurenga Branch Chairperson in Murambinda who has barely two years in the District executive structures as the Secretary for Administration has remained adamant.

It is further alleged that Svosva only registered to vote less than a month ago since this was a pre-condition for one to be a registered voter so as to be eligible for the elections.

Efforts to contact national youth league information department were fruitless.

Jimmy Sibanda Dies

By Sports Reporter | The soccer legend, Jimmy Sibanda has died.

The Whange FC Chipangano icon, passed on to glory last week and was laid to rest on the 22nd April.

The local MP Daniel Mokele announced Jimmy Sibanda’s death saying in full:

The Office of the MP for Whange Central constituency joined the rest of the local communities in mourning the late Jimmy Sibanda who passed away during the past week.

Sibanda is a well known soccer legend who played for Whange FC Chipangano in his heydays.

He was part of the Golden Generation of soccer stars that the coal mine produced especially during the 1970s.

After his soccer playing days, Sibanda established himself as one of the most respected local communities leaders especially at the no. 3 Colliery

On Saturday 23rd April 2022, a memorial service was hosted by the St Joseph Parish church at Makwika that had an overwhelming turnout that served to underscore the popularity of the late Sibanda.

He is indeed a huge loss that we will all sadly miss.

The late Sibanda was laid to rest at the Makwika cemetery.

On behalf, of all the local constituency residents, the Office of the MP extends its heartfelt sympathy and condolences to both the Sibanda and Malikwe families at this time of loss and mourning.

May Jimmy Sibanda rest in peace. Amen.

Mutoko Robber Hauled To Court

By A Correspondent- A 22 year old suspected robber is in soup for allegedly robbing a pedestrian  of his US$20.

The matter came to light at Mutoko magistrates courts on Thursday where Peter Windress appeared before magistrate Rumbidzai Mhandu.

Windress pleaded not guilty to the charge and was remanded in custody to May 6.

The state led by Nathan Mujuru alleged on independance day the suspect saw Cuthbert Kurarama walking at Makaha business Centre,Mudzi and pounced on him.

Windress assaulted Kurarama with open hands before robbing him of his money.

A police report was filed leading to his arrest.

Zimbos Ranked Unhappy People Globally

By A Correspondent- A World Happiness Index survey done by Gallup World Poll has ranked Zimbabweans number 145 out 146 countries in the world.

According to the world happiness index, the World Happiness Report is an indicator of global happiness. The rankings are based on reports of respondents’ assessments of their own lives, and articles on national happiness are included. The report also compares with other elements that influence (quality of) life. As of March 2022, According to the World Happiness Report, Finland was named the happiest nation in the world five times in a row.

The  study was edited by John F. Helliwell, Richard Layard, Jeffrey D. Sachs, and Jan-Emmanuel De Neve among other Cambridge professors. As associate editors for this volume, Lara Aknin, Shun Wang, and Haifang Huang are involved.

The neighbouring South Africa is ranked 101.

Chamisa Rejects Mnangagwa Bribe

By- The Nelson Chamisa Citizens Coalition for Change party refused Zanu PF bribes which the ruling party offered to opposition political parties, including MDC-T Alliance leader Douglas Mwonzora, to facilitate their attendance of Independence Day celebrations in Bulawayo.

For the first time since 1980, Independence Day celebrations were held outside Harare on April 18.

Mnangagwa was impressed by opposition leaders’s attendance so much that he spoke about it more than once in public gatherings, including yesterday when he addressed a Zanu PF rally in Epworth.

It has since been established by this publication that taxpayers footed the bill for the opposition leaders whose packages included generous quantities of fuel, accommodation at top hotels and food.

Most of the opposition parties that travelled to Bulawayo belong to the Political Actors Dialogue (Polad) — a forum set up by Mnangagwa after the 2018 elections where he regularly meets losing presidential candidates from fringe political parties.

Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa has refused to join Polad saying it is a Zanu PF cheerleaders club.

Chamisa’s CCC attended the Independence Day celebrations in the country’s second city, breaking away from the past stance of boycotting national events.

CCC representative at the celebrations Charlton Hwende said he did not receive the allowances and the fuel coupons,  but other opposition party leaders confirmed receiving the same, amid claims that some got as much as 400 litres of fuel to travel from Harare

“I never received anything, we attended on our free will,” Hwende said yesterday.

Linda Masarira, the leader of the Labour, Economists and African Democrats, said she received 150 litres.

“For the record, every person who attended the Independence Day celebrations as an invited guest was afforded fuel coupons in accordance with where they came from,” Masarira told The Standard on Friday.

“Everyone who has travelled away from home is obviously accommodated for national events.

“I don’t see why it should be hullabaloo that people who travelled from Harare were accommodated in hotels. Where did people want us to stay, in trees?”

Nationalists Alliance of Patriotic and Democratic Republicans leader Devine Hove said there was nothing untoward as Polad members were used to being pampered for their meetings with the president.

“As a member of Polad it is a norm that we are invited to attend such events and what I know is that guests are given fuel commensurate with the distance that you would have travelled,” Hove said.

His Zimbabwe Partnership counterpart Innocent Netanyahu added: “We only get fuel when we go to State House meetings.

“They have to legitimately compensate for that.”

Information permanent secretary Nick Mangwana yesterday said opposition leaders were assisted with “logistics” to attend the celebrations.

“No opposition and Polad member was paid to come, but the government just invited them and assisted with logistics,” Mangwana said.

Critics have said Polad is a waste of national resources.

In 2021, Mnangagwa attracted scorn after handing out 19 Isuzu D-Max vehicles to Polad principals at a cost of over US$1 million.

Police Hijacks Public Toilet

By- Police (ZRP) in Masvingo have hijacked a toilet which was meant for the public.

This came out in a full council meeting held at Town House on April 21 2022 when the recently re-elected ward 7 councilor Richard Musekiwa raised the concern.

Musekiwa said the police post has no toilet of their own, and officers have resorted to using the public toilet which they are reportedly personalizing.
“Police in Rujeko have personalized the public toilet in the suburb yet it is a council-owned property and it should be accessed by the public not the police to make it their property,” said Musekiwa.
He said police have since put a padlock to deprive hundreds of people who ply and stay close to Rujeko A shops.
Ward 8 councilor Against Chiteme also said the police camp should construct their own toilet than depriving residents access to their toilet.
“Rujeko police station should construct their own toilet instead of taking over council property leaving the public without ablution facilities,” said Chiteme.
Masvingo City Council Mayor Collen Maboke said the police station should just be closed as no such institution is allowed to operate without a toilet.
“No one is allowed or should operate without a toilet and those without toilets must be shut down. So if Rujeko police base does not have a toilet, they should just close,” said Maboke.
Efforts to get a comment from acting provincial police spokesperson Sergeant Lloyd Masundire were futile as he was not reachable.
When Minister of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage, Kazembe Kazembe and Commissioner General of Police, Godwin Matanga visited Masvingo in April 2021, they toured police posts including Rujeko and were told that there were lots of shortages in terms of resources in police departments, chief among them being shortage of toilets at many camps.
Officer Commanding Masvingo Province Commissioner David Mahoya told Kazembe and Commissioner General Matanga that the province was faced with shortages of toilets, offices, police vehicles, stationery, fuel and accommodation among other things and also said the case of Rujeko police station was worrying saying under normal circumstances, the station would be condemned as there were no toilets as well as office space.
“Literally there is no police station here, there are no toilets, the place is small, officer in charge shares offices with other staffers and no vehicles to deliver services,” said Commissioner Mahoya.
During that visit Kazembe said government was aware of the challenges being faced by the police which include accommodation for officers saying concerted efforts were being made to address that but up to now nothing has materialized.

Civil Servants Request Urgent Meeting With Govt

Civil servants have written to their employer requesting an urgent meeting for the two parties to find a way forward regarding their salaries that have been eroded by rising inflation.

Zimbabwe Confederation of Public Sector Trade Unions (ZCPSTU) ZCPSTU secretary-general David Dzatsunga said they are now waiting for a response from the Government. Said Dzatsunga:Things are going south. Nothing is working because of the inflation, the prices, the rate and all that we were given make no sense.

There is a US$75 and a US$100 salary and that was at least cushioning us. On average, a civil servant is getting ZW$28 000-ZW$30 000.

The way forward is we have written to the employer asking for a meeting with the National Joint Negotiation Committee (NJNC) and the letter was delivered on Wednesday.

We are now waiting for their response to our request for an urgent meeting.Civil servants are demanding a pre-October 2018 salary of US$540 per month but the Government says it has no capacity to meet its workers’ demands.

Last year, the government workers, mainly teachers, nurses and doctors, declared incapacity but authorities responded by threatening to withhold their paltry salaries and firing them.

He said “vaMnangagwa didn’t send or deploy 1 August 2018 soldiers,” a statement which itself is the most criminal utterance in Africa, because the opposite, having been witnessed on live ZBC TV, it only serves to shield the man who’s killed more blacks (30,000 plus) than apartheid SA, and it weakens the court cases of those who are still at suing Mnangagwa over it.
  2. Protected the ZRP cops who assaulted his own church members on 21 Sept 2018.
  3. The 40y old Presidential contestant can no longer be president as predicted by Chiwenga’s own 2014 prophecy because the vessel is still being washed. Again this is very criminal because it only strengthens the coup that Mnangagwa committed in 2018 against Nelson Chamisa.
  4. Saying Chamisa’s party is only interested in positions; it doesn’t matter which president we have in Zimbabwe, all we want to see is peace.

Felton Kamambo Fired From ZIFA Board

The ZIFA Congress voted overwhelmingly to revoke suspended president Felton Kamambo’s mandate at an Extraordinary General Meeting held this Saturday.

Forty-three out of forty-five councillors voted to revoke Kamambo’s mandate including that of board member (finance) Philemon Machana and board member (development) Brighton Malandule.

Kamambo, Machana and Malandule were absent, while the only suspended executive members that attended the meeting were Sugar Chagonda, Babra Chikosi and Farai Jere.

Former ZIFA vice president and Bulawayo based businessman Gift Banda has been voted acting ZIFA president.

Banda was suspended by his ZIFA executive committee colleagues after a board meeting on 16 January 2019 exactly a month after winning the ZIFA vice presidency.

He was accused of reshuffling the senior national team’s technical staff unilaterally without engaging the executive.

Banda had removed then assistant coaches Rahman Gumbo and Lloyd Mutasa, replacing them with Tonderayi Ndiraya and Bongani Mafu respectively.

The decision to revoke the mandate of the ZIFA board will not likely change FIFA’s stance on the country’s football matters.

FIFA imposed a ban on Zimbabwe after the SRC suspended the ZIFA board and the only way the sanction will be lifted is the reinstatement of Kamambo and his board.

A letter sent by FIFA to local football authorities on Friday, a day before the holding of the Extraordinary General Meeting, read:

We refer to the aforementioned EGM notice. As discussed in the past weeks, it is important that in the context of the aforementioned EGM, the ZIFA members and delegates understand fully the decision of the FIFA Council taken on 24 February 2022 (as attached hereto).

Especially, they shall be reminded of the cumulative conditions imposed by FIFA Council in order for the ZIFA suspension to be lifted, including confirmation to FIFA that ZIFA and its management led by President Kamambo and GS Mamutse is back under their full and unconditional control.

Police Bomb Mandava Stadium FC, Bosso Match, With Teargas

Police officers used tesrgas to bomb the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match between FC Platinum and Highlanders yesterday.

The match was sabotated when it was abandoned after 84 minutes amid chaotic scenes resulting in police firing teargas into Mandava Stadium’s stands.

FC Platinum and Highlanders were deadlocked when Albinos Zigwati raised his flag to signal that the coming together between Highlanders defender Peter Muduhwa and FC Platinum substitute Walter Musona was a free kick in favour of the home team which saw referee Kuzivamwari Jaravaza point to the spot.

This resulted in a lengthy stoppage as Highlanders players protested the decision. Bosso supporters joined in as they invaded the pitch before they were cleared by the police. Just when things appeared to be getting back to normal, police threw teargas and there was mayhem as fans started running in all directions, with players also affected by the tear smoke.

Bosso fans had already been agitated by decisions made by referee Jaravaza and first assistant referee Michael Ncube which led to tempers boiling at that point when the disputable penalty was awarded. Video footage from our television station, Zimpapers Television Network showed that the contact between the two players occurred outside the box.

In the first-half, Devine Mhindirira gave Highlanders the lead in the eighth minute. Some industrious work by Lynoth Chikuhwa saw the striker send the ball into the box where Stanley Ngala laid it for an unmarked Mhindirira to plant it past goalkeeper Petros Mhari.

A defensive blunder by Highlanders gave FC Platinum an opportunity to equalise in the 15th minute, Juan Mutudza beating Ariel Sibanda on the far post. FC Platinum dominated second half proceedings but did not do much with the ball possession. The PSL is now expected to make a decision on the abandoned match.

July Moyo Loses Another High Court Case

The Local Government minister July Moyo has been forced to reinstate six traditional leaders after they challenged their unceremonious dismissal at the High Court.

Member Mutinha, Patrick Manjonjo, Aleck Munava, Morgan Gora, Nobo Mahobho and Taurai Machipisa of Ward 17 in Hurungwe District in Mashonaland West province were ‘unfairly’ dismissed by Chief Nyamhunga born Boniface Chinehasha between April and May 2015.

They were also stripped of their entitlements and replaced by Emmanuel Mutinha, Clever Hwenda, Insuarance Kapamara, Simbarashe Kaponda, Dzumbunu Paratema and Pasipanodya Manjonjo.

Attempts by the village heads to have their dismissal reversed hit a brick wall after the Local Government ministry through the Hurungwe West district Administrator’s office, now district development co-ordinator (DDC), said their positions had been filled and benefits were withdrawn.

They approached the High Court and were represented by Webster Jiti of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) as they challenged their dismissal without any charges or disciplinary hearing.

In the application, the village heads argued that they had complied with the provisions of Section 281 of the constitution, which provides that traditional leaders should not “act in a partisan manner or further the interest of a political party or cause.”

The matter has not been heard at the High Court.

But the Local Government ministry through permanent secretary Zvinechimwe Churu has reinstated the traditional leaders after he acknowledged that they had been unfairly dismissed in terms of the provisions of the Traditional Leadership Act.

In his letter, Churu through a ministry official one E. Chitombo ordered the district development coordinator to process payment of the village heads’ monthly allowances.

The ruling Zanu PF is accused of abusing its power to manipulate traditional leaders to help it during election campaigns.

Traditional leaders such as chiefs and headmen are forced to tow the party line and those that resist are dethroned like what happened to Chief Nhlanhlayamangwe Ndiweni of Ntabazinduna. —Standard

Warriors Number One Fan Stuck In Yaounde

Warriors cheerleader Alvin ‘Aluvah’ Zhakata is reportedly still stuck in Yaounde, Cameroon, two months after the Afcon 2021 finals ended.

Soccer24 exlclusively reported in February that the lanky fan was facing arrest, after failing to settle hotel bills at Arena Hotel in Yaounde.

Sports News Africa, a publication which covers African sport, is now reporting that Zhakata is stranded in Cameroon, where is homeless, helpless and in ‘precarious health’.

“I’m exhausted. I’m getting depressed. God only knows if I will return to my country alive,” he was quoted as saying by the publication.

“The situation is very difficult. I feel my strength failing me. I pray every day to be able to go home,” he added.

Aluvah travelled to Cameroon to cheer the Warriors at Afcon 2021 but chose to remain behind to watch the rest of the tournament after Norman Mapeza’s charges were eliminated.

He was supposed to return home on February 2, but only learnt upon arrival at the airport that a penalty of €387 had to be paid first before he could be allowed to leave.

Impact Of Air Pollution

Almost the entire global population (99%) breathes air that exceeds WHO air quality limits, and threatens their health.

A record number of over 6000 cities in 117 countries are now monitoring air quality, but the people living in them are still breathing unhealthy levels of fine particulate matter and nitrogen dioxide, with people in low and middle-income countries suffering the highest exposures.

The findings have prompted the World Health Organization to highlight the importance of curbing fossil fuel use and taking other tangible steps to reduce air pollution levels.

Released in the lead-up to World Health Day, which this year celebrates the theme Our planet, our health, the 2022 update of the World Health Organization’s air quality database introduces, for the first time, ground measurements of annual mean concentrations of nitrogen dioxide (NO2), a common urban pollutant and precursor of particulate matter and ozone. It also includes measurements of particulate matter with diameters equal or smaller than 10 μm (PM10) or 2.5 μm (PM2.5). Both groups of pollutants originate mainly from human activities related to fossil fuel combustion.

The new air quality database is the most extensive yet in its coverage of air pollution exposure on the ground.

Some 2,000 more cities/human settlements are now recording ground monitoring data for particulate matter – PM10 and/or PM2.5 – than the last update. This marks an almost 6-fold rise in reporting since the database was launched in 2011.

Meanwhile, the evidence base for the damage air pollution does to the human body has been growing rapidly and points to significant harm caused by even low levels of many air pollutants.

Particulate matter, especially PM2.5, is capable of penetrating deep into the lungs and entering the bloodstream, causing cardiovascular, cerebrovascular (stroke) and respiratory impacts.

There is emerging evidence that particulate matter impacts other organs and causes other diseases as well.

NO2 is associated with respiratory diseases, particularly asthma, leading to respiratory symptoms (such as coughing, wheezing or difficulty breathing), hospital admissions and visits to emergency rooms

WHO last year revised its Air Quality Guidelines, making them more stringent in an effort to help countries better evaluate the healthiness of their own air.

“Current energy concerns highlight the importance of speeding up the transition to cleaner, healthier energy systems,” said Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General. “High fossil fuel prices, energy security, and the urgency of addressing the twin health challenges of air pollution and climate change, underscore the pressing need to move faster towards a world that is much less dependent on fossil fuels.”

Steps governments can take to improve air quality and health
A number of governments are taking steps to improve air quality, but WHO is calling for a rapid intensification of actions to:

adopt or revise and implement national air quality standards according to the latest

WHO Air Quality Guidelines;
monitor air quality and identify sources of air pollution;
support the transition to exclusive use of clean household energy for cooking, heating and lighting;
build safe and affordable public transport systems and pedestrian- and cycle-friendly networks;
implement stricter vehicle emissions and efficiency standards; and enforce mandatory inspection and maintenance for vehicles;
invest in energy-efficient housing and power generation;
improve industry and municipal waste management;
reduce agricultural waste incineration, forest fires and certain agro-forestry activities (e.g. charcoal production); and
include air pollution in curricula for health professionals and providing tools for the health sector to engage.

The evidence base for the harm caused by air pollution has been growing rapidly and points to significant harm caused by even low levels of many air pollutants. Last year, the WHO responded by revising its Air Quality Guidelines to reflect the evidence, making them more stringent, especially for PM and NO2, a move strongly supported by the health community, medical associations and patient organizations.

The 2022 database aims to monitor the state of the world’s air and feeds into progress tracking of the Sustainable Development Goals.

Darikwa Side On Verge Of Promotion

Warriors defender Tendayi Darikwa’s Wigan Athletic side is just six points away from winning promotion to the English Championship.

The Latics are five points clear at top of the League One table with just three games left. They are ahead of Rotherham and MK Dons, who are both on 83 points.

Wigan stretched their lead on Tuesday with a 2-2 draw at Ipswich Town, while their title rivals suffered defeats.

Sports News Africa, a publication which covers African sport, is now reporting that Zhakata is stranded in Cameroon, where is homeless, helpless and in ‘precarious health’.

“I’m exhausted. I’m getting depressed. God only knows if I will return to my country alive,” he was quoted as saying by the publication.

“The situation is very difficult. I feel my strength failing me. I pray every day to be able to go home,” he added.

Aluvah travelled to Cameroon to cheer the Warriors at Afcon 2021 but chose to remain behind to watch the rest of the tournament after Norman Mapeza’s charges were eliminated.

He was supposed to return home on February 2, but only learnt upon arrival at the airport that a penalty of €387 had to be paid first before he could be allowed to leave.

Busted- ZRP Investigates Own Cops Captured Live On Camera Assaulting Civilian

By A Correspondent- The ZRP is investigating circumstances surrounding a video which has gone viral on social media where a person in civilian attire and another clad in police uniform are seen assaulting a man haplessly while a seeming fellow police officer is watching in Mt Darwin.

Said the ZRP in a tweet:

The suspects and the victim are heard speaking in Shona language on the background of the scene near a veranda of a house. The ZRP has launched full scale investigations into the incident with a view of taking action.
