Mnangagwa Repeats Remarks On Bond Notes, Says ZiG Is More About Sovereignty

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has staunchly defended the newly launched gold-backed ZiG currency, asserting that it exemplifies his government’s commitment to harnessing national resources.

Mnangagwa made these remarks during the commissioning of the Pickstone Peerless Mine Underground Mining Project in Mashonaland West Province.

His statement comes in the wake of criticism surrounding the introduction of the new currency, with some labelling it a failure.

“The decision to anchor our currency with our gold and strategic mineral reserves underscores the resolve of the Second Republic to utilize the assets of our nation, Zimbabwe, to propel our journey towards achieving sustainable economic autonomy and sovereignty,” stated Mnangagwa.

“As we advance in the development of our beloved nation, it is imperative that we take pride in our distinctive Zimbabwean heritage, which includes our minerals and our currency,” he added.

The introduction of the ZiG currency comes as a replacement for the ZW$, which had lost its value due to rampant inflation. Originally established at a 1:1 exchange rate with the US dollar in 2016, its value deteriorated significantly, reaching a staggering 1:25,000 ratio before its demonetization last week.

Despite concerns and skepticism surrounding the new currency, with many fearing a repeat of the challenges experienced with bond notes, Mnangagwa hailed its launch as “historic and unparalleled.” ZiG notes and coins are slated to enter circulation on April 30.

Against this backdrop, Mnangagwa emphasized the importance of leveraging the country’s mineral resources to achieve enduring economic independence and sovereignty.

Meanwhile, significant investments have been made in the Pickstone Peerless Mine, with a US$22 million infusion for phase one of mining operations and an additional US$28 million for phase two, aimed at enhancing underground infrastructure for expanded exploration and mining activities.

Mnangagwa highlighted the projected annual gold production of over 1 tonne, amounting to approximately US$60 million, as a testament to the anticipated surge in gold output.

Zimbabwe Introduces New Currency Backed by Gold: A Promising Step or Potential Pitfall?

By Shelton Muchena in England

Zimbabwe, a country known for its economic challenges and hyperinflation, has recently announced the introduction of a new currency backed by gold. This bold move is aimed at stabilizing the country’s economy and regaining the trust of its citizens and international investors. While the idea of a gold-backed currency holds potential benefits, it also poses certain risks and challenges that need to be carefully considered.

Introducing a currency backed by gold can potentially bring economic stability to Zimbabwe. Gold has long been considered a stable and valuable asset, and using it to back the currency could instill confidence in the financial system. It may help curb hyperinflation, as the value of the currency would be tied to a tangible asset, reducing the risk of excessive money printing.

Zimbabwe’s previous currency, the Zimbabwean dollar, suffered from severe hyperinflation and eventually became obsolete. By introducing a new currency backed by gold, the government aims to restore trust in the financial system and demonstrate its commitment to fiscal responsibility. This could encourage both local and international investors to have faith in the currency and contribute to economic growth.

A gold-backed currency has the potential to attract foreign investment. Gold is a globally recognized and sought-after commodity, and investors may view a gold-backed currency as a secure store of value. This influx of investment could lead to increased economic activity, job creation, and overall growth for Zimbabwe.

While the idea of a gold-backed currency seems promising, there are several challenges and risks that need to be considered. One major challenge is the availability and management of gold reserves. Zimbabwe would need to ensure that it has enough gold reserves to back the currency adequately. Additionally, the price of gold is subject to market fluctuations, which could impact the stability of the currency. The government would need to implement effective mechanisms to manage these risks.

Another potential challenge is the transition from the existing currency system to the new gold-backed currency. This process requires careful planning and execution to avoid disruptions and confusion among the public. It is crucial to educate and inform citizens about the benefits and implications of the new currency to gain their trust and cooperation.

The introduction of a new currency backed by gold in Zimbabwe holds the potential to bring economic stability, restore trust, and attract foreign investment. However, it is essential to address the challenges and risks associated with managing gold reserves, market fluctuations, and the smooth transition to the new currency. With proper planning, implementation, and ongoing monitoring, Zimbabwe can harness the advantages of a gold-backed currency and pave the way for a more prosperous future.

Tangible Asset Backing: Gold is a globally recognized and valued commodity. By backing the currency with gold, Zimbabwe can provide a tangible asset that holds intrinsic value. This backing creates a sense of stability and confidence in the currency, as it is tied to a physical asset that has historically retained its value.

Zimbabwe has experienced significant economic challenges, including hyperinflation and a lack of trust in the previous currency. A gold-backed currency can help restore confidence and trust in the financial system. By having a currency backed by a valuable asset like gold, individuals and businesses can have faith that their money holds value and will not be subject to rapid depreciation.

One of the primary causes of economic instability in Zimbabwe has been hyperinflation. By introducing a gold-backed currency, the government can gain better control over inflation. The value of the currency is tied to the value of gold, which tends to be more stable than fiat currencies. This reduces the risk of excessive money printing and the subsequent devaluation of the currency.
A gold-backed currency can also attract foreign investors. Gold is widely recognized as a stable store of value, and investors may view a gold-backed currency as a safer investment option. This influx of foreign investment can contribute to economic growth, job creation, and overall stability in Zimbabwe.

Overall, a gold-backed currency provides a solid foundation for economic stability by instilling confidence, controlling inflation, and attracting international investment. However, it is important to address challenges such as managing gold reserves and market fluctuations to ensure the long-term stability of the currency.

Certainly! Here are some additional points to consider regarding the potential benefits of introducing a gold-backed currency to bring economic stability to Zimbabwe,
Gold has been used as a store of value for centuries due to its limited supply and resistance to inflation.

By backing the currency with gold, Zimbabwe can provide its citizens with a reliable and stable medium of exchange. This can help protect against the erosion of wealth and savings caused by volatile fiat currencies. A gold-backed currency can act as a safeguard against currency manipulation by external entities.

Since the value of the currency is tied to the value of gold, it becomes less susceptible to the whims of central banks or geopolitical factors that can influence fiat currencies. This stability can foster long-term economic growth and attract foreign investment.

A gold-backed currency can enhance Zimbabwe’s credibility in international trade. It provides a reliable and trusted medium of exchange, which can facilitate smoother transactions and reduce the risk of currency fluctuations. This can make Zimbabwe more attractive as a trading partner and improve its competitiveness in the global market.

Introducing a gold-backed currency allows Zimbabwe to diversify its reserves beyond traditional fiat currencies. This diversification can provide a hedge against currency risks and mitigate the negative impact of currency crises. Holding gold reserves can also provide a sense of financial security and stability for the government and its citizens.

A gold-backed currency imposes discipline on the monetary authorities. It limits their ability to engage in excessive money printing and encourages responsible fiscal policies. This can help curb inflationary pressures and promote long-term economic stability by ensuring that the currency retains its value over time.

It is important to note that introducing a gold-backed currency is not without challenges. It requires establishing and managing gold reserves, ensuring transparency in the conversion process, and addressing potential market fluctuations.

Additionally, the success of such a monetary system depends on effective governance, sound economic policies, and the ability to maintain a stable and balanced economy.

The failure of ZIG emanates from the economy sabotage between the RBZ and the ministry of finance. The RBZ launched new currency which is not being supported by the treasury in tax collection.

Apart from that, the announcements by the RBZ governor indicating that Zig cannot buy fuel at Service station brought doubt about the new promulgated currency in Zimbabwe. On it’s own, it’s an reflection of it’s failure because how a country’s currency can’t purchase fuel in a country. This proves beyond doubt that it cannot compete on global market.

Be Responsible, Dog Owners Warned

DOG owners have been urged to be more responsible after a recent report revealed an increase in dog bites across the country, with more than 500 dog bites being recorded in a week.

A recent Disease Surveillance Report from the Ministry of Health and Child Care has revealed a worrying trend after 525 cases of dog bites were reported in just a week across the country.

According to an animal inspector with the Zimbabwe National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ZNSPCA), Mr Kudzanai Chatikobo highlights the need for responsible dog ownership.

“With dog bites, you need to track what might be the causes of each case, usually its lack of what we call responsible ownership. Every dog owner must be aware that every dog needs to be vaccinated. We have five freedoms of an animal, every animal must have the freedom to access treatment when it is sick and to be vaccinated so it’s a must in Zimbabwe we do have several statutes and laws that support that, so it’s not allowed to keep an unvaccinated dog. Whenever people are acquiring dogs, they need to know about the dogs they intend to buy or maybe adopt, so in our case here we call it rehoming. So, whenever someone wants to own a dog, you must make sure that you have relevant knowledge about the breed that you want to adopt.

These days we do have a rise in cases of boar dogs and pit bulls biting people so every dog is not meant to be aggressive or a biter or vicious it’s all more about upkeep the way you take care of your dog so dogs need to be socialised they need the freedom to express normal behaviour they need freedom from discomfort freedom from pain and negative training methods are not recommended where dogs are trained to fight it is not recommended and using cruel methods of training that cause aggression and the increases in the cases of dog bites.

We do have what we call the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, it’s an act whereby dogs are not allowed to be confined or to be kept in an environment where they are not allowed to socialise with people for a long time. For example, we do have some dogs being kept for breeding in backyards in small kennels for a long time so obviously the cruel way the dog is being kept in the same way the dogs will respond to us as well because he is not used to people or normal handling so obviously this contributes to aggression and negative behaviours of animals that we keep,” he said.

The report reveals that 131 of the people were bitten by vaccinated dogs, 190 by unvaccinated dogs, and 204 by dogs of unknown status.

He added, “You need to get your dogs vaccinated. I don’t see a reason why people are not vaccinating their dogs. surprisingly, it costs less than US$2 and is free at some facilities. Rabies is a very dangerous zoonotic disease, and it can be spread from canines to human beings.”

While rabies is a near-certain concern once symptoms develop, it is entirely preventable through vaccination and prompt medical attention after potential exposure, hence the importance of responsible pet ownership, including regular vaccinations for dogs, cats, and other mammals.

Mnangagwa In Desperate Bid To Block Starlink

By A Correspondent

In a surprising move, the Zimbabwean government under Emmerson Mnangagwa has taken steps to ban Starlink, SpaceX’s satellite internet service, within the country.

This decision, which was enforced by the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ), has sparked concerns over the state of internet access and freedom in the nation.

Starlink’s withdrawal from Zimbabwe was announced shortly after POTRAZ issued a directive instructing the company to disable its services.

This abrupt turn of events has left Zimbabweans, particularly those relying on Starlink for reliable internet access, in a state of uncertainty.

In response to the ban, Starlink expressed its intent to engage in discussions with POTRAZ in hopes of resolving the regulatory issues.

The company stated, “We will continue to work with POTRAZ to obtain the necessary regulatory approvals to resume Starlink services in Zimbabwe as soon as possible.”

This move by the Zimbabwean authorities appears to be part of broader efforts to maintain control over information flows and internet access within the country.

Zimbabwe has a history of restrictive policies towards telecommunications, and the ban on Starlink may be seen as a measure to consolidate state control over digital communication platforms.

The decision to ban Starlink has drawn criticism from various quarters, with concerns raised about the impact on Zimbabwe’s digital infrastructure and the right to access information freely.

The move is seen by many as a setback for efforts to expand internet connectivity and bridge the digital divide in Zimbabwe.

In light of the ban, Zimbabweans who were relying on Starlink for internet services now face disruptions in their connectivity.

Starlink users received notifications advising them on how to pause their services amidst the regulatory challenges. According to Starlink, “You may pause service and billing by following instructions…”

This development raises questions about the future of internet access in Zimbabwe and underscores the importance of regulatory frameworks that balance state interests with the rights of citizens to access information and communication technologies.

The banning of Starlink serves as a reminder of the challenges faced by those seeking to expand internet access and digital freedoms in environments where state control over telecommunications remains prevalent.

As discussions between Starlink and Zimbabwean regulators continue, stakeholders will closely monitor the outcome, hoping for a resolution that prioritizes the interests of Zimbabwean citizens and the broader goals of expanding connectivity in the country.

Cottco Manager Caged For Theft And Corruption

By A Correspondent| Cottco Chiredzi Depot Business Unit manager, Innocent Gukwe (35), was today remanded in jail on allegations of theft and corruption.

Gukwe appeared at Chiredzi Regional Court, facing one count of theft and one count of corruption.

He is being represented by Prince Ganyani of PC Ganyani Law Firm, Charles Vhudzi of Vhudzi and associates Law Firm and Rita Chakauya of Muzenda and Chitsama Legal Practitioners.

Magistrate Vimbai Mutukwa heard that in January 2024 Gukwe instructed Brighton Muza, a truck driver of a truck registration number AGJ 7704 belonging to Muguju Transport to collect 300 by 50 kg bags of compound L fertilizer from Cottco Kadoma depot.

On 11 January 2024, Cottco Kadoma transferred the 300 bags to Cottco Chiredzi Business Unit under internal movement of fixed items documents.

Muza collected the 300 bags of fertilizers but did not deliver them to Chiredzi depot but diverted them to an unknown destination.

The court also heard that on 22 January 2024, Gukwe instructed Muza to go to Chiredzi Bussiness Unit with internal movement of fixed item document for transfer of 300 by 50 kg bags compound L fertilizers claiming that the fertilizers were delivered at Ngundu transit Depot.

Stores person at Chiredzi depot then querried why the document for fertilizers that were collected on 11 January 2024 was presented on 22 January 2024 and Muza said he was busy transporting other loads.

Total cost of the fertilizer is US10 500.

On count two it is alleged that in 2022, Gukwe hatched a plan to siphon money from Cotco by saying that he would get a truck to contract to Cottco depot at favourable rates.

Gukwe then bought two trucks and registered them in the name of Regis Chivaura. The registration number for the trucks are AFS 2424 and AFU 4824.

Gukwe using his position would give the trucks frequent contracts and facilitate propmt payments. Gukwe got US122 421.47 from using his trucks at Cotco.

Prosector Ronald Kwangware opposed bail and ZACC Investigating Officer Taurai Andrew Ziyambe argued Gukwe would interfere with investigations.

Gukwe was remanded in custody to tomorrow for bail ruling.

Real Madrid’s Tchouaméni Suspended for Crucial Champions League Clash

Sports Correspondent

Real Madrid’s Aurélien Tchouaméni, pivotal in the recent match against Manchester City, will sit out the return leg on April 17th due to a third yellow card this season in the Champions League, given for a 2nd-minute foul.

Tchouaméni, part of the quartet at risk of suspension alongside Eduardo Camavinga, Jude Bellingham, and Vinícius Junior, was swiftly cautioned in the match.

The Frenchman’s absence compounds challenges for coach Carlo Ancelotti, who opted for Tchouaméni in defense over more traditional choices like Nacho Fernández.

This decision now looms large ahead of the upcoming Champions League quarter-final in Manchester.

The answer lies in the concept of action itself.

Despite the primary focus of businesses on profitability, there is an undeniable need to prioritize impact over mere financial gain.

Symbolism of Zimbabwe’s Political Future: Mnangagwa to Hand Over Power to Nelson Chamisa?

By A Correspondent

In a recent social media buzz, a striking photograph from Zimbabwe’s Government of National Unity (GNU) era has sparked intriguing speculation about the future of the country’s leadership.

The image features Emmerson Mnangagwa, the current Zanu PF leader, alongside Advocate Nelson Chamisa, a prominent figure in the opposition.

This snapshot, now resurfacing, has prompted discussions about the potential handover of power from Mnangagwa to Chamisa before the year 2028.

Nelson Chamisa’s reflection on the photograph during his recent statement added fuel to the speculative fire. “Greetings family. I just bumped into this one.

During the GNU days,” he remarked, suggesting nostalgia for a pivotal period in Zimbabwe’s political history.

The photograph’s significance was further highlighted by Mabwedza Lameck, who described it as a poetic representation of a potential transition in power within Zimbabwe.

This interpretation has captured the imagination of many Zimbabweans, who are keenly observing the nation’s political trajectory.

The Government of National Unity, which ran from 2009 to 2013, was a historic moment in Zimbabwean politics.

It brought together rival parties—Zanu PF and the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC)—in an attempt to stabilize the country following a period of economic turmoil and political unrest.

The participation of both Mnangagwa and Chamisa in this era underscores their roles as pivotal figures in Zimbabwe’s contemporary political landscape.

Emmerson Mnangagwa, once a key ally of former President Robert Mugabe, succeeded Mugabe in 2017 amid a military-backed transition.

His presidency has been marked by efforts to stabilize the economy and attract foreign investment, albeit amid ongoing challenges and criticisms.

Nelson Chamisa, on the other hand, emerged as a prominent opposition leader following the death of MDC founder Morgan Tsvangirai in 2018.

Known for his youthful energy and popular support, Chamisa has consistently advocated for democratic reforms and socioeconomic progress.

The photograph of Mnangagwa and Chamisa together evokes questions about Zimbabwe’s political future and the potential for a generational shift in leadership.

As the country grapples with economic pressures, governance issues, and calls for reform, many are looking to younger leaders like Chamisa to steer the nation towards a new era.

The idea of Mnangagwa handing over power to Chamisa before 2028 reflects broader discussions around Zimbabwe’s need for a democratic transition and renewed leadership.

While such predictions remain speculative, they speak to a growing sentiment for change among Zimbabweans, particularly the younger generation who aspire for a more inclusive and progressive governance.

The symbolism behind this photograph serves as a reminder of Zimbabwe’s complex political journey—a narrative shaped by historical legacies, aspirations for change, and the evolving dynamics of power.

Whether Mnangagwa’s tenure will indeed pave the way for Chamisa’s ascendancy remains to be seen, but the conversation sparked by this image underscores the aspirations and uncertainties of Zimbabwe’s political landscape.

Panicky Mnangagwa Regime Bans Starlink

Former ZACC Boss Goes Beserk, Destroys Community Gate

Former Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (Zacc) commissioner Farai Mashonganyika-Chinyani and her husband went berserk and destroyed a community gate after they were denied entry to a property she allegedly acquired illegally.

Mashonganyika recently lost a title deed to the property she allegedly bought in a fraudulent deal where she paid US$4 000 for 8 000 square metres of land.

The former Zacc commissioner and her husband Tendai Chinyani appeared before magistrate Dennis Mangosi charged with malicious damage to property.

The duo allegedly damaged a community boom gate in Borrowdale, Carrick Creagh.

Allegations are that on April 5, Cornilious Tsikwa, a chief security officer, was on guard duty at a gated community entrance in Carrick Creagh when the couple arrived.

Tsikwa advised them that they were not allowed to enter the property as they had an outstanding payment of US$600 for security and other services.

This did not go down well with the couple.

It went on to twist the electronic boom gate, breaking it in the process.

A police report was made leading to its arrest.

The duo was remanded out of custody to April 16.

Mashonganyika recently sued the government after the Local Government ministry cancelled a title deed to a property she bought for US$4 000 instead of US$20 000.

Apologise To Nation, Zanu PF Hardliners Tell Mnangagwa

By A Correspondent

In a surprising turn of events, hardliners within Zimbabwe’s ruling party Zanu PF, known as Varakashi, have publicly urged President Emmerson Mnangagwa to issue an apology to the citizens of Zimbabwe for what they perceive as his delayed assumption of the presidency.

This unexpected plea was detailed in a statement released on Wednesday by Varakashi group running a Facebook page called Operation Restore Legacy.

The statement is clear in its demand, expressing that President Mnangagwa should acknowledge and apologize for what they claim to be a belated ascension to power.

It reads, “President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa should apologize to the people of Zimbabwe for being President a bit late.”

Furthermore, the Varakashi group went on to assert that had President Mnangagwa assumed office back in 2008, Zimbabwe would now be akin to a first-world nation.

This assertion adds an interesting layer to the statement, suggesting a belief among some Zanu PF members that significant opportunities were missed due to what they see as a delay in leadership change.

In the words of the Varakashi representatives, the sentiment is straightforward and carries weight.

They emphasized the potential impact of an earlier presidency, implying that the course of Zimbabwe’s development could have been dramatically altered with a different timeline of events.

One can’t help but ponder the underlying motivations behind such a bold public appeal from within the ruling party.

Speculation may arise regarding internal dissatisfaction or differing opinions on the trajectory of governance under Mnangagwa’s leadership.

President Mnangagwa has not yet responded to this call for an apology, and it remains to be seen how this unexpected development will unfold within the political landscape of Zimbabwe.

The Varakashi statement serves as a reminder of the complexities within Zanu PF, hinting at diverse perspectives and expectations even among those at the core of the ruling establishment.

The Varakashi group’s appeal for an apology from Mnangagwa adds a new dimension to the political discourse in Zimbabwe.

Whether this call will lead to any tangible outcomes or shifts in political dynamics remains uncertain.

However, it undoubtedly underscores the nuanced dynamics at play within the ruling party and the broader national sentiment regarding leadership and accountability.

AFM Pastor’s WhatsApp Love Chats With Married Woman

Zimbabwean Church Leader Caught in Scandal, Lawsuit Ensues.

Screenshot

In a shocking revelation that has shaken the Apostolic Faith Mission (AFM) of Zimbabwe, Overseer Tamuka Zvavahera, a prominent church leader in Bulawayo West, has been implicated in a scandalous affair with a married congregant. The controversy erupted following the leak of intimate WhatsApp messages between Zvavahera and the woman, identified only as Sindisiwe.

Zvavahera, who held significant responsibilities as the head of all AFM pastors in his province, now faces the fallout of his actions which include the termination of his pastoral and oversight duties. The elders of the Faith Centre Assembly, disturbed by the alleged misconduct, referred the matter to the church’s national headquarters in Harare, demanding strict disciplinary measures against Zvavahera for his actions which “put the name of the church into disrepute.”

Despite the gravity of the accusations, including documented messages where Zvavahera expresses growing affection and arranges secretive meetings with Sindisiwe, he has decided to challenge his dismissal. Represented by lawyers from Macharaga Law Chambers, Zvavahera argues that his termination was mishandled, claiming it lacked proper procedure under the church’s constitution.

“The respondents erred and grossly committed an irregularity by terminating the applicant’s contract without properly charging him of any offence in terms of AFM constitution and they never gave reasons for terminating his contract. They also never afforded him an opportunity to defend himself,” reads the lawsuit filed by Zvavahera’s legal team.

This legal battle does not just threaten to expose the internal rifts within the AFM but also highlights issues of ethical leadership and accountability in religious communities. The case continues to develop as both legal and public scrutiny intensify around Overseer Zvavahera’s actions and the broader implications for the church’s credibility.

Ntabazinduna Twins Killed in Johannesburg Shooting

By Dorrothy Moyo | A heartrending shadow has fallen over the Zhou family of Madlelenyoni, Ntabazinduna, as they grapple with the sudden and brutal loss of twins Samukelisiwe and Attalia Zhou, who were both killed on April 3rd in a horrifying domestic dispute in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Born on August 24, 1983, the twins were celebrated figures in their community, embodying hope and unity. Tragically, their lives were cut short at 41 during a family meeting intended to resolve marital issues between Samukelisiwe and her husband, Justin Mahlaba. The dispute took a lethal turn when Mahlaba, in a fit of rage, fired on the sisters, then himself, turning a session meant for reconciliation into a scene of devastation.

Farai, the twins’ elder brother, described the chilling events, noting that the meeting began with a prayer and heartfelt discussions before spiraling into chaos. Mahlaba’s actions not only ended the lives of the beloved sisters but also left their children motherless, their family bereft, and a community in mourning.

The aftermath at the Zhou family home is somber, with ongoing prayers and preparations for the twins’ return to their final resting place in their birth village. Thulani, another brother, expressed his deep sorrow and disbelief, emphasizing the non-violent nature of his sisters and the injustice of their deaths. He mentioned the cultural expectations of appeasement and cleansing that now fall to the Mahlaba family in light of the tragedy.

Ottilia, the twins’ younger sister, echoed the sentiments of shock and heartache, urging the importance of vocalizing and addressing domestic issues to prevent such tragedies. She made a poignant appeal to the public for support in these difficult times, highlighting the urgent need for assistance with funeral arrangements and the care of the twins’ children.

As the community comes together to support the Zhou family, the profound impact of this tragedy underscores the vital need for addressing domestic violence and supporting those in crisis. The funeral is scheduled for this Sunday, where the twins will be laid to rest in a ceremony filled with both grief and love, as the family, friends, and community members bid farewell to Samukelisiwe and Attalia Zhou.

Mnangagwa To Address Kids On Independence Day Eve

By A Correspondent

As Zimbabwe prepares to celebrate its Independence Day, President Emmerson Mnangagwa and First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa are set to engage with the youth of the nation in Buhera on the eve of this significant occasion. The event, organized by the ruling Zanu PF party, raises important questions about the message the country’s leaders will convey to children amidst ongoing economic challenges.

The backdrop against which this gathering takes place is crucial.

Zimbabwe has been grappling with persistent economic hardships marked by inflation, currency instability, and unemployment.

These issues directly impact families and, by extension, the younger generations who are witnessing and experiencing the effects firsthand.

In a statement released by the Zanu PF party, the significance of this event is underscored.

It’s described as a unique opportunity for leaders to connect with and celebrate Zimbabwe’s youth, who embody the country’s future and aspirations.

Unity, peace, and progress are highlighted as core values that the nation continues to strive for as it commemorates its independence.

However, the pressing question remains: what will President Mnangagwa and the First Lady communicate to the children of Zimbabwe amidst these challenging times?

Undoubtedly, their message will need to strike a delicate balance between acknowledging the current difficulties and instilling hope and resilience in the younger generation.

Here are some potential themes that may be addressed during their engagement:

  1. Empowerment and Education: The importance of education and acquiring skills that will enable children to navigate challenging economic landscapes. Encouraging a commitment to learning and personal development despite obstacles.
  2. Unity and Solidarity: Emphasizing the strength that comes from unity and collective effort. Inspiring children to work together towards a common vision of a prosperous Zimbabwe.
  3. Leadership and Responsibility: Instilling a sense of responsibility and leadership among young Zimbabweans, highlighting that they too have a role to play in shaping the future of their country.
  4. Hope and Resilience: Acknowledging the difficulties faced by families and communities but emphasizing that challenges are temporary. Encouraging perseverance and optimism.
  5. Opportunities for Youth: Promoting initiatives and programs that provide avenues for youth empowerment, skills development, and entrepreneurship.

This event represents more than just a ceremonial engagement.

It’s an opportunity for Zimbabwe’s leaders to connect authentically with the next generation, to listen to their concerns, and to inspire them with a vision of a brighter tomorrow.

It’s a chance to reinforce the values of the nation’s independence struggle and to galvanize youth
participation in shaping the trajectory of Zimbabwe’s future.

The outcome of this gathering will not only be measured by the speeches delivered but by the lasting impact on the hearts and minds of the young participants. As Zimbabwe commemorates another year of independence, the message to its children must resonate with hope, determination, and a collective commitment to overcoming challenges and building a better nation.

Mnangagwa and Wife to Address Children on Independence Day Eve: What’s the Message Amid Economic Challenges?

Zanu PF Hardliners Call for Mnangagwa’s Apology To Zimbabweans

Health Minister Says English Language Requirement Will Be Removed For Nurse Training

HARARE – An Ordinary Level pass in English Language may be next to be dropped as a mandatory requirement for nurse training applicants, health minister Douglas Mombeshora has said.

The ministry of health last week quietly scrapped the requirement – in place since 2015 – to have passed O’ Level Mathematics for one to qualify for nurse training.

Now Mombeshora wants to go further, after telling journalists on Tuesday that the English language requirement was burdensome and discriminatory.

“We are still looking into a pathway for more people who are committed to nursing. We are looking at issues like if passing English with a C of better is important because anyone who has passed all these subjects has been taught in English,” Mombeshora said, speaking during a post-cabinet briefing in Harare.

“So, we will keep on reviewing and making sure that we make accessibility to training to various disciplines affordable and accessible to all Zimbabweans.”

Supporting the scrapping of O’ level Maths as a requirement to enrol for nurse training, Mombeshora said it was not a key subject in the field of medicine.

“The key subject for you to go into medicine is Chemistry, so we have retained the requirement to have passed a science subject which is a key subject to go into nursing. We are actually leaving a lot of people who have got the capacity and capabilities out of the training because of Maths,” he said.

ZANU PF MP Mutsa Ziyambi Brandishes Gun in Bar Altercation

By A Correspondent| There was drama over the past weekend when ZANU PF’s Mashonaland West youth quota Member of Parliament, Mutsa Ziyambi pulled out a firearm after an altercation with a patron at a nightclub.

Witnesses say Ziyambi and his aide entered QBar for refreshments, only for a dispute to erupt at the counter with another patron.

Eyewitnesses report that the disagreement escalated quickly, with the patron becoming physically aggressive towards Ziyambi.

“The guy pressed Ziyambi with his elbow and his aide had to come for rescue along with other patrons,” a witness to the dramatic scene told this publication.

Though intervention from both Ziyambi’s aide and other patrons managed to defuse the situation, it was only for a moment.

Tensions remained high as Ziyambi, visibly angered, retreated to his parked vehicle outside and moments later, to the shock of onlookers, returned brandishing a firearm, seemingly intent on settling the score.

Witnesses describe him crossing the road, gun in hand, shouting threats towards the club.

“He was seen crossing the road livid, cocking his gun towards the club, shouting ‘haanatsondizive angandiisa elbow inini.'”

Thankfully, a patron familiar with Ziyambi’s political stature intervened, urging him to reconsider the potential fallout of his actions on his reputation and that of his family.

“It was after a guy who knew his status advised him to at least consider his family’s reputation if he doesn’t really care about his own that he folded and drove off with his aide,” recounted a witness.

When contacted for comment, Ziyambi denied any involvement in this fracas.

“I was in Mutare whole of last week on parliament business with ministry of youth at golden peackok hotel,” he said.

Mutsa Ziyambi is also the son of Justice, Legal, and Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Ziyambi Ziyambi

HMetro Slam Mai Titi For Kuchekeresa Mwana

By Dorrothy Moyo | In the wake of the tumultuous events surrounding Zimbabwean socialite Mai Titi, real name Felistas Murata, the state-funded tabloid HMetro has issued a scathing editorial critique. The publication, known for its bold commentary, has not shied away from addressing the controversial incident head-on, casting a stern light on Murata’s alleged encouragement of her daughter’s actions.

The editorial, titled “Parental Guidance Gone Awry: The Disturbing Encouragement of Felistas Murata,” dives deep into the chaos that erupted after unidentified individuals exploited images of Mai Titi. HMetro unequivocally slams Murata for what it describes as a perplexing and troubling reaction to her daughter’s exposure on the internet.

Below are the words of sociallite that are on record over her admiration of the controversial singer and stripper, Shashil who she says made money from exposing herself.

Hatitombe kwate, hativhunduke, hatitirimuke hapana chekutya hapana kana zvekumboti tonyarirepi, tonyarirepi kudini inga ana Shashil chaivo vakaburitsirwa pumaz yavo panze is she not living? Vamwe are famous and making money vaburistirwa manyudzu avo.

“We don’t cry, we see no shame, we are not contained, there’s nothing to restrict us. Why on earth should we consider shame? Shashl had her underwear taken out there, is she not living? Others are famous and making money after their nudes have been viewd.”

“Somehow, Mai TT appears comfortable that nude photos of her teenage daughter have flooded the internet,” the editorial reads, highlighting a sentiment of disbelief and disapproval towards Murata’s handling of the situation. It further accuses the comedienne of not just passivity but of active encouragement, stating, “The comedienne even appeared to be encouraging her daughter to spill more nude photos onto the Internet. That’s not how a normal mother should react to the shame that her daughter finds herself in.”

This stern rebuke from HMetro underscores a broader societal concern about digital privacy, the responsibilities of public figures in guiding their followers and family members, and the critical importance of safeguarding minors in an increasingly connected world.

The People’s General, another figure embroiled in the discourse, has voiced his distress over the misuse of Mai Titi’s images, emphasizing the overlooked aspect of minor protection and the community’s role in shielding the vulnerable. “Whoever leaked these things, did not care to consider that the minor has a future they need to be shaped for,” he stated, echoing a sentiment of collective responsibility in the upbringing and protection of minors.

His plea is not only for privacy but for a societal awakening to the dangers lurking in the digital age, especially for the younger generation. “As elders, you are expected to take care of minors in your area, because anyone this vulnerable is your own,” The People’s General added, urging a communal approach to child-rearing and a reevaluation of digital etiquette.

In conclusion, HMetro’s editorial does not merely criticize Mai Titi; it serves as a clarion call for a reassessment of parental responsibilities and the moral obligations of public figures towards their immediate community and, by extension, their audience. The unfolding scenario may be a reminder of the complexities of parenting-ZimEye

Oppah Muchinguri Convicted Of Brutally Assaulting A Glen View Resident

By A Correspondent| Defence Minister Oppah Muchinguri and Zimbabwe National Army Commander Lieutenant-General Sanyatwe, have been convicted for the brutal assault of Muchademba Muponde and ordered to pay him more than ZiG 41 000 as compensation for the ill-treatment, which he endured at the hands of soldiers in 2019.

Muchinguri and Sanyatwe were on Wednesday ordered by Harare Civil Court Magistrate Tamara Chibindi to pay ZiG 41 633 to Muponde, a resident of Harare, who was heavily brutalised by some soldiers on 16 January 2019, when they were deployed to suppress countrywide anti-govt protests, which were held in response to a unilateral govt increase in fuel prices & worsening standards of living.

Muponde was assaulted by soldiers as he accompanied his grandfather to buy a chicken at Glenview 1 Shopping Centre in Harare, where he saw a group of soldiers chasing people around and he also began to flee. One of the soldiers, who was brandishing a gun, spotted him and gave chase and caught him before assaulting him on the back of his body and neck using the back of the firearm.

Muponde started bleeding when the soldier hit him on the back of his head and ran to hide at a nearby homestead. But the soldier followed him & continued assaulting him using the back of the gun at the homestead. At one point, the soldier even lifted his gun threatening to shoot him.

Muponde sustained serious injuries on both legs including internal injuries on his left leg as a result of the assault and he could not walk.

The soldier continued beating him and only stopped after seeing the severity of the injuries sustained by Muponde and instructed him to wash the blood off his face.

Muponde then engaged Tinashe Chinopfukutwa of the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights, who in 2019 sued Muchinguri and Sanyatwe claiming payment of damages for pain and suffering, nervous shock, contumelia, affront to dignity and humiliation.

During trial, which began in February 2024 at Harare Civil Magistrates Court, Muchinguri and Sanyatwe vainly argued that the soldiers, who assaulted Muponde were not under the control of the ZNA Commander but of the Zimbabwe Republic Police, as they had been deployed to assist the law enforcements agents in restoring law and order.

Out of the ZiG 41 000, Magistrate Chibindi said ZiG 20 816 will be damages for pain, suffering, trauma and nervous shock, which was suffered by Muponde while ZiG 20 816 will be damages for affront to dignity, humiliation and embarrassment caused to the Harare resident.

Muchinguri and Sanyatwe were also ordered to pay interest on the total amount of damages from 2019 until the date when they will make the payment to Muponde.

Ivory For Magic Powers Chiredzi Couple Arrested

The Absurdity of Elephant Ivory in Magic | An ExposéIn a world brimming with scientific advancements and burgeoning technologies, the archaic belief that elephant ivory possesses magical properties not only endures but thrives in certain circles. This belief, rooted in myth rather than reality, continues to fuel the cruel and unsustainable poaching of elephants, threatening their survival. Here, we expose the ridiculousness of using elephant ivory for purported magical powers.Myth Versus ModernityThe myth: Elephant tusks, some believe, are conduits of immense mystical energies. They are thought to bring wealth, protect against harm, and even cure illnesses.

From powdered tusks believed to “detoxify” the body, to ivory amulets worn as talismans against evil, these uses are not only scientifically unfounded but are also dangerously misleading.Modern science, however, tells a different story. Ivory, composed of dentin, a material found in our own teeth, has no properties that transcend the physical. It does not channel cosmic energies, nor does it interact with mystical forces. It’s quite literally as magical as a human tooth.Cultural Context and Conservation CrisesCultural inertia plays a significant role in perpetuating the ivory trade.

In some societies, ivory is deeply embedded in cultural rituals and status symbols. However, clinging to outdated traditions at the expense of an entire species is not just irresponsible—it’s morally reprehensible.Elephants are keystone species, meaning their survival is crucial to their natural habitats. They help maintain the forest and savanna ecosystems, which numerous other species depend on. By decimating elephant populations for their tusks, humans are not only engaging in brutal acts against these majestic creatures but are also destabilizing entire ecosystems.

Legal Loopholes and Lethal ConsequencesDespite international bans on the trade of new ivory, legal loopholes allow for pre-existing artifacts to be sold, creating a cover for illegal activities to flourish. This perpetuates a cycle of violence against elephants, driven by the baseless belief in ivory’s magical powers.Ridiculing the RidiculousIt’s high time to ridicule and reject the ludicrous notion that ivory holds any magical power.

Such myths should be relegated to the same shelf as those that promote the medicinal benefits of rhino horns or tiger bones—another set of beliefs that have led to the brink of extinction for these species.A Call for Rationality and ResponsibilityIf there is any ‘magic’ in elephant ivory, it lies in its ability to symbolize the tragedy of human greed and superstition overriding the necessity for conservation and respect for wildlife. It is imperative that we dismantle these myths and protect our natural heritage. In the battle between myth and science, it is crucial to arm oneself with knowledge and rationality. The real magic lies in the earth’s biodiversity and the ecological balance maintained by species like the elephant. Preserving these creatures, rather than commodifying their parts, is the true power we must harness for the future of our planet.Let’s end the ivory trade, debunk the myths of its magic, and step into a future where wildlife conservation is a priority, and superstition is left behind in the dustbin of history.

Chiredzi Elephant Ivory Case.

A Chiredzi Couple’s Alleged Crime,

By Dorrothy Moyo | A couple from Chiredzi has been thrust into the spotlight after being arrested with raw elephant ivory in their possession. Innocent Chiwanza, 28, and Angeline Sithole, 22, residents of Farm 25 in Hippo Valley, stand accused of a heinous act that highlights the brutal reality of the illegal ivory trade.

The couple was apprehended following a midnight raid on March 6, 2024, by game rangers from Malilangwe Trust. Prosecutor Moreblessing Rusere detailed the circumstances leading to the discovery: “Acting on credible intelligence, three rangers conducted a thorough search of the suspects’ residence, uncovering not only the elephant remains but also potential tools of their illicit trade.”Wrapped in a nondescript plastic bag, one of the elephant tusks was found in Chiwanza’s house—a stark symbol of the grotesque trade.

“This is not merely wildlife contraband; it’s a relic of a living creature that suffered greatly,” explained an ecologist involved in verifying the ivory. The couple’s defense—that the tusk was a spiritual protector provided by their church—has been met with skepticism. “The claim that this ivory piece was given for protection at an Apostolic shrine is not only unusual but also alarming, considering the implications it has for both wildlife conservation and local religious practices,” stated Rusere.

Under their bed, the rangers found two spears, arrows, and a knife, tools which paint a grim picture of the couple’s alleged involvement in poaching.

This assortment of weaponry, juxtaposed with the sacred claims tied to the ivory, presents a complex narrative about the intersections of culture, crime, and conservation. The magistrate presiding over the case, Diana Masiiwa, has remanded the couple to custody pending a further hearing on April 12, 2024. The case has sparked outrage and a renewed call for stringent measures against poaching.

Conservationists are particularly vocal about the implications of such cases.“Each piece of ivory represents a dead elephant and a step closer to the extinction of these majestic creatures,” remarked a spokesperson from the Malilangwe Trust. “It is imperative that we stop these criminals who are stripping our Earth of its natural heritage for mere profit.”The arrest of Chiwanza and Sithole is not an isolated incident but a snapshot of a pervasive problem affecting wildlife across Africa and the globe. The illegal ivory trade thrives on the exploitation of natural resources and the decimation of animal populations.

As the legal proceedings unfold, this case serves as a somber reminder of the dark paths tread by those who seek to profit from the planet’s most vulnerable species. It underscores the necessity for vigilant enforcement of wildlife protection laws and greater awareness and education regarding the critical state of elephants in the wild.

“This case must act as a deterrent to those who believe they can illegally trade in ivory without consequence,” said a conservation expert. “We must continue to advocate for the elephants, who cannot speak for themselves but whose presence is vital for ecological balance.”As Chiwanza and Sithole face the consequences of their actions, the world watches and waits, hoping for justice for the voiceless and a future where such tragedies become a distant memory.

Winner Duped By Betting Company

The Prosper Dembedza case.

By Farai D Hove | In the complex world of sports betting, recent investigations have unveiled a concerning pattern where certain betting companies engage in deceptive practices that effectively penalize successful bettors. This issue has gained significant attention in the UK, shedding light on the darker tactics employed by some within the industry. Among the most startling revelations is the manner in which accounts under female names are targeted, suggesting a calculated strategy to mitigate risks associated with savvy betting. “It’s particularly true of any account with a female name,” one industry insider remarked, highlighting a disturbing trend of gender bias where women’s accounts are presumed to be used by bettors circumventing limitations on their primary accounts.

A manual distributed to employees of the betting giant Paddy Power has come under scrutiny for its explicit guidance on stake factoring, a practice that, while defended as a means to level the playing field, appears to often penalize punters for their success. “The guide advises staff to restrict customers who ‘look like bad business’ and to increase stake factors for ‘all customers that are regularly hitting their max [maximum bet],'” reports have illuminated, exposing the company’s methodical approach to limiting the winnings of its most successful customers.

This strategy not only targets those with insider knowledge or those exploiting technological loopholes, like “latency cheats,” but also casts a wide net over shrewd bettors simply skilled at identifying favorable odds. The broad application of such measures has sparked accusations of overreach, with some industry veterans criticizing the indiscriminate branding of successful bettors as “arbers” or arbitrage gamblers.

The revelations surrounding Paddy Power’s stake factoring policies have raised serious ethical concerns, particularly with the disclosure that customers identified as “warm”—those adept enough to frequently beat the odds—were systematically restricted. Documents seen by The Guardian suggest a disturbingly calculated effort to curb the winnings of competent gamblers, underlining a pervasive industry mindset that prioritizes profit over fairness. “New customers were set at 1.0, the document said, unprofitable customers at 0.3, and ‘warm’ customers at 0.1,” a stark illustration of how betting firms manipulate odds and access to bet in favor of the house.

The narrative extends beyond these initial findings, touching on the broader implications for consumer rights and the integrity of the betting industry. Instances like that of Bernard Henry, who found his account restricted despite a modest overall win, hint at a systemic issue where successful betting leads to punitive measures. Henry’s case, revealing through a subject access request that he had been prevented from placing sports bets after beating the odds 73% of the time, underscores the opaque and potentially unjust practices of data usage within the industry.

Calls for reform and greater transparency have been amplified by advocacy groups and regulators alike, with the case of Bezbets—fined for defrauding a punter of significant winnings—serving as a poignant reminder of the vulnerabilities faced by bettors. Such incidents not only erode trust in the industry but also raise questions about the fairness and ethics of practices that, while ostensibly aimed at maintaining the integrity of sporting events, often disadvantage those who have legitimately succeeded.

The sports betting industry is thus confronted with a critical challenge: to reconcile the need for integrity and fairness with the rights and expectations of its patrons. Without a concerted effort towards transparency and equitable treatment, the trust that forms the cornerstone of all betting activities risks being irrevocably damaged.

The Bezbets case, a glaring example of the exploitative practices within the betting industry, further illustrates the extent to which companies may go to withhold rightful winnings from successful punters. In this instance, a punter named Mr. Prosper Dembedza emerged as a victim of such deceptive practices, having been denied a substantial sum of US$5,200 he won fair and square. Despite Bezbets being fined US$500 for this malpractice, the resolution for Dembedza remained pending, highlighting the challenges faced by individuals seeking justice in a system seemingly stacked against them.

Dembedza’s plight was not just about the financial loss but also about the principle of fairness and integrity within the betting industry. He reached out to the Lotteries and Gaming Board (LGB), expressing both his frustration and his hope for intervention. “My main issue now is to seek your intervention as the regulator for all betting and gaming institutions in the land. I would like you to assist me to get my money as I won legally as proven by the country’s courts of justice,” Dembedza wrote, emphasizing the legitimacy of his claim and his reliance on regulatory bodies to uphold justice.

The response from LGB’s chief executive officer, Dr. Misheck Chingozha, was measured, underscoring the procedural approach required in such cases. “Regrettably, there is no response for you yet, but we are on it. Once a position is adopted you will be the first to know,” he stated, indicating a process in motion, yet without immediate relief for Dembedza.

This case not only casts a spotlight on the direct impact of such practices on individuals but also serves as a critical example of the broader systemic issues plaguing the betting industry. It underscores the need for a robust regulatory framework capable of protecting punters from unscrupulous practices and ensuring that winning bets are honored transparently and fairly. The ongoing struggle of punters like Dembedza signals a pressing need for reform, advocating for a fairer and more trustworthy betting landscape.

Did ZACC Commissioner Vandalise Property?

By Dorrothy Moyo | In an unexpected twist of events that has left the nation asking, “Did the ZACC commissioner vandalise property?”, former Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) commissioner Farai Chinyani, along with her husband Tendai Chinyani, finds herself in the eye of a legal storm. The question lingers heavily as the couple appeared in court yesterday, facing charges of malicious damage to property. But did they really take a turn from enforcing the law to allegedly breaking it?

The incident in question unfolded in the upscale neighbourhood of Borrowdale, where the Chinyanis, both residents of the area, allegedly took it upon themselves to forcibly enter a gated community, leading to the damage of a boom gate. This act of supposed defiance brings to the forefront a pressing query: Did the duo’s actions reflect a momentary lapse in judgment, or is there more to the story than meets the eye?

Harare magistrate Mr Dennis Mangosi has since remanded Farai (49) and Tendai (60) out of custody, with the trial set to possibly commence on April 16. The anticipation builds as observers and citizens alike await further developments, pondering the gravity of the allegations against individuals once tasked with upholding integrity and combating corruption.

Represented by the chief security officer Cornilious Tsikiwa, the complainant, Carrick Creagh security, alleges a blatant disregard for protocol by the Chinyanis, leading to a confrontation that resulted in property damage valued at US$300. The refusal to abide by community rules, over an outstanding balance of US$600 for security and other services, raises critical questions about entitlement, responsibility, and the expectations placed on public figures.

As the case unfolds, the spotlight intensifies not just on the alleged incident of vandalism but on the broader implications it holds for trust in public service, the accountability of individuals in positions of power, and the sanctity of community regulations. Did the Chinyanis’ actions stem from a sense of impunity, or is there an untold aspect of their story waiting to emerge?

With the legal proceedings ahead and the nation watching closely, the question remains — did the ZACC commissioner vandalise property? As the court seeks to unravel the truth behind the charges, the incident stands as a poignant reminder of the thin line between public trust and individual actions, leaving a lingering query in the minds of many.

Dembo’s Lasting Legacy

Today marks 28 years after the death of Zimbabwe’s music icon, Leonard Dembo, whose legacy still lives on through his timeless music.

Born Kwangwari Gwaendepi in 1959, the man known as Leonard Dembo in the music circles, launched his career in the early 1980s and became a darling in the entertainment industry after churning out hit after hit for over a decade.

Although his music career was cut short after his death in 1996 at the age of 37, his vocal mastery and lyrical prowess have outlived him.

“I started listening to Leonard Dembo in 1986 i remember his first show I attended, we were not allowed to get in because I was under 18 so i went on top of the wall just to see him. From that time to now he is my biggest musician. I have phases in life when I am happy and there are his songs that I play when I am sad as well,” said a fan.

Yet another fan said, “I was just three-years-old when my dad started going with me to his shows and I am happy today we are now a movement that follows Dembo. We call ourselves greatest fans of all time.”

“I loved Dembo’s music so much that when I grew up I decided to connect with his family. He might have left, but i actually became part of his family. If you check those who know on social media, people tag me on anything that concerns Dembo. All the people around me know and even my ring tones are his songs,” another fan noted.

Having worked with Dembo during his prime, Guitarist Innocent Mujintu who was part of the Barura Express back in the 1980s, knows it all when it comes to the Sungura maestro and his timeless compositions.

“Dembo was very kind to me. I remember we started working in the 80s and recorded a number of albums together. We went on tours to a number of countries. One thing we did as a culture was to treat all our songs as our babies. We would take time and give 100 percent on every single piece. I think that made us stand out because we took enough time.”

Dembo went on to receive recognition beyond the country’s borders and one of his greatest hits, ‘Chitekete’ was played at the 1996 Miss World beauty pageant held in Namibia.

Music and arts expert Plot Mhako says Dembo’s originality and authenticity set him apart from the rest, “Dembo did not try to imitate somebody else and sound like what most artists do. He is someone who remained very much related to his own identity and this is something that I think is a secret for artists who want to make music that will stand the taste of time.”

Dembo horned his skills with the “Outsiders Band”, which released hit songs such as “Dambudzo” in 1982.

He then joined another group known as “Five Notes” before he formed the Barura Express in 1984 upon which he released an 8-track album titled “Mai Nevana Vavo”.

Dembo went on to release the album “Nhamo Moto” in 1986 and many other hits including Venenzia, Gire, Zii Zii, Ruva Rashe and Shiri Yakangwara which are still popular to this day.

It might be 28 years after Dembo’s death but experts believe his legacy lives on and his music remains of substance, quality and relatable.

Mnangagwa Bribes Opposition Members With Cash

By A Correspondent

In a political maneuver that has raised eyebrows and stirred controversy, Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa is reportedly employing financial incentives to sway opposition members into joining his ruling party, Zanu PF. According to well-placed sources within Zanu PF, cash inducements have been instrumental in enticing opposition supporters to defect.

The latest public display of defection occurred on Tuesday when Zanu PF announced that 63 members from the opposition party, CCC (Citizens Coalition for Change), had crossed over to join Mnangagwa’s ranks.

This orchestrated move was characterized by a notable show of support as these defectors were publicly paraded and photographed alongside Dr. M Bimha, the National Political Commissar of Zanu PF.

The event was accompanied by a statement from Zanu PF, which read, “63 Harare East CCC Change Champions who moved to ZANU PF posing for photo shot with National Political Commissar Dr M Bimha at the party HQ 8 April 2024.”

This statement and the subsequent display exemplify the visible efforts by Mnangagwa’s camp to highlight and capitalize on these defections.

The motivations behind such defections are believed to be rooted in monetary incentives offered to disenchanted opposition members.

One source from Zanu PF, speaking on the condition of anonymity, revealed, “President Mnangagwa’s administration is strategically using cash to lure opposition supporters, particularly those dissatisfied with the current political landscape.”

This claim underscores the tactical nature of these defections, pointing to a broader strategy aimed at consolidating political power.

In response to these allegations, members of the opposition have criticized Mnangagwa’s tactics as coercive and indicative of an unfair electoral environment.

Nelson Chamisa, leader of the CCC, condemned the inducements, stating, “It is unfortunate that Mnangagwa’s regime is resorting to bribery to undermine the democratic process.”

Such sentiments echo broader concerns within the opposition regarding the integrity of Zimbabwe’s political climate.

Despite the controversy, Mnangagwa’s camp remains steadfast in its approach.

The use of financial incentives to sway political allegiance underscores the fierce competition within Zimbabwe’s political arena, where power dynamics and loyalty shifts play pivotal roles.

Mnangagwa’s utilization of cash incentives to attract opposition members raises critical questions about the state of Zimbabwe’s political landscape.

As the country approaches crucial elections, the impact of such tactics on the democratic process and public perception remains to be seen.

The intertwining of money and politics underscores the complex and evolving nature of governance in Zimbabwe, highlighting the enduring struggle for influence and legitimacy.

Mai Titi Says She Admires “Shashil Stripped And Made Money”

Below are the words of sociallite Mai Titi that are on record over her admiration of the controversial singer and stripper, Shashil who she says made money from exposing herself.

“We don’t cry, we see no shame, we are not contained, there’s nothing to restrict us. Why on earth should we consider shame? Shashl had her underwear taken out there, is she not living? Others are famous and making money after their nudes have been viewd.”

By Showbiz Editor | ZimEye | The Unwarranted Chaos Surrounding Mai Titi: A Wake-Up Call on Digital Responsibility.

In a recent and unsettling turn of events, the digital space became a battleground of morality and privacy invasion when unidentified individuals from Zimbabwe took advantage of images related to the celebrated South African-based socialite, Mai Titi. This act of digital indiscretion has sparked a wave of controversy, shedding light on the darker facets of internet misuse and the collateral damage inflicted upon the innocent.

https://x.com/zimeye/status/1777984279219150925?s=46

Mai Titi, a prominent figure renowned for her vibrant personality and significant social media presence, found herself at the center of a chaotic storm when her picture content was misused. The misuse of her digital content not only violates personal boundaries but also raises critical questions about digital safety and the ethics of content sharing.

The People’s General, another notable personality in the social sphere, vocalized his distress over the situation. He highlighted the overlooked aspect of this debacle—the impact on minors and the indispensable role of community in safeguarding the vulnerable. “Whoever leaked these things, did not care to consider that the minor has a future they need to be shaped for,” he lamented, underlining the responsibility that comes with elderhood in guiding and protecting the youth.

The misuse of Mai Titi’s images serves as a horrific reminder of the pervasive issues surrounding digital content sharing and the ease with which individuals can fall victim to online malfeasance. The incident not only violates personal privacy but also encroaches upon the sanctity of minor protection, spotlighting the urgent need for community vigilance and a collective stance against digital misconduct.

The People’s General’s narrative extends beyond just a plea for privacy; it’s a call to action for societal responsibility towards the younger generation. “As elders, you are expected to take care of minors in your area, because anyone this vulnerable is your own,” he asserted, stressing the importance of community guardianship in nurturing and safeguarding minors.

He draws a parallel between the incident and the broader challenges of parenting in the digital age, pointing out the unpredictable behavior of children and the implications of parental absence due to career demands. His personal anecdotes about his child’s demands for more autonomy serve as a testament to the unpredictable nature of child rearing and the complexities of ensuring their safety in a world increasingly dominated by digital interactions.

This incident with Mai Titi is a wake-up call to all stakeholders—parents, guardians, and the digital community at large—to reassess their approach to digital content sharing and privacy. It underscores the necessity of fostering a digital environment that prioritizes the well-being and privacy of all individuals, especially the most vulnerable.

In conclusion, as we navigate the intricate web of digital interactions, the situation surrounding Mai Titi reminds us of the critical need for empathy, responsibility, and proactive measures in safeguarding individual privacy and nurturing a safe digital habitat for future generations. The chaos that erupted is not just a singular event but a reflection of broader societal challenges that require collective action and a recommitment to the principles of digital decency and mutual respect.

Opinion: New currency, same old problem

By Diana Machingauta| So the Zimbabwean government has just created a new currency called the ZiG which we are told is backed by the country’s gold reserves and other precious metals.

The idea is that the new currency will be stronger and more stable than the local currency that preceded it.

Simple logic says that for this new currency to be the solution to Zimbabwe’s inflation problems, it will not be like the previous local currency and the conditions which sank its predecessor will no longer be there.

Is this what is going to happen this time? Absolutely not. One does not need to be an economist to foresee that there will be mass printing of this ZiG currency which will be used by the usual culprits to buy US dollars.

Not only that, but the notion that we should trust the valuation of this ZiG currency using gold reserves is a big joke considering the gold smuggling shenanigans we have seen at the hands of Zanu and the diverse pack of runners who smuggle the precious metal out of country on their behalf.

The problem in the country is with the current political leadership who have overseen unprecedented looting of the country’s resources. What Zimbabwe needs is not new a currency, but a new government.

Zim Woman Loses UK Permanent Residence Bid 22 Times

By Diplomatic Correspondent- The British government has denied permanent residence to a 45-year-old Zimbabwean woman living in the United Kingdom (UK) since 2001 despite qualifying for that status.

The woman has reportedly spent £12 000 on applications to stay in the European country, but she keeps getting refused.

Patience Jamela moved from Zimbabwe 23 years ago to train as a teacher in the UK. She said she was drawn to studying in England because of the “state-of-the-art” teaching.

Jamela told the Bristol Post that she had planned to return to Zimbabwe but ended up making Britain her home after meeting a man.

She has reportedly applied to become a permanent citizen four times over the years – at £3k each time. She said she did not know why each time her application was turned down by the Home Office.

Jamela, a mother of three, said she wants residency as she struggles to get a mortgage and has, at points, had her travel restricted. She said:

I feel like my life is in limbo. I am a good citizen. I pay my taxes. I don’t understand why I should be penalised.

Jamela left Bulawayo, Zimbabwe’s second-largest city, to study for a PGCE at Canterbury Christ Church University in Kent.

She had planned to return to Zimbabwe after finishing her studies, but in 2004 she met her former partner through online dating.

Jamela became pregnant and the pair went on to have three children. Charlotte, now 18, Alissa, 17, and Jaden, 11.

She initially applied for permanent residence in 2012 but was turned away by the Home Office. She reapplied in 2015, 2018, and 2021, and is now preparing to submit another application this month.

However, each time she applies she’s told she doesn’t qualify for settlement and is given temporary leave-to-remain instead – which has to be renewed every three years. Said Jamela:

I have no criminal record. I don’t understand why they have not allowed me to stay. My life is on hold.

My children have never met their grandmother because she lives in Zimbabwe – we can’t afford to travel there. We have not had a holiday because of this situation. The last holiday was when the kids were small.

I can’t afford to move house because I am always thinking about the next application. My kids are anxious. They don’t know what’s going to happen.

This country’s their life. They have family, cousins and nieces here. This is all they have known.

Zimbabweans face significant challenges when seeking permanent residence in Britain, mainly because the UK has implemented strict immigration policies that include high fees, lengthy application processes, and stringent eligibility criteria.

WILL THE NEW CURRENCY SUCCEED?

By Hon Madzivanyika

Whereas ,Section 317 of the constitution of Zimbabwe requires the RBZ to regulate the monetary system to promote currency stability and overall macroeconomic stability, there is need to analyse the impact of the recently promulgated monetary policy statement on the new currency as introduced.

The new monetary policy statement was introduced under the theme,”Recalibrating the monetary policy framework to anchor Currency to achieve Exchange rate and
Price stability.”

As the Democratic Alternative in Zimbabwe,we believe the new Currency will not succeed because of thr following factors:

1.Disputed Political Leadership
Exchange rate volatility and inflation are just but a symptom of Poor Governance. It is important to understand that the financial markets and all economic variables are highly responsive to developments in Politics. The continued disputed elections continue to creat disbelief and a negative perception that bring in adverse expectations about the economy. Those who rig elections unfortunately cannot rig the economy too.In most countries economic stability is not only the preserve of Central banks and monetary authorities, but a collective responsibilty with political leadership having a greater part to play than Technocrats and professionals.

2.Crises of Confidence
Confidence refers to the trust and belief which the business community and citizens have torwads the government and is a result of past expiriences.Confidence is built from consistent demonstration of robust economic policies, governance, integrity, transparency and accountability. The inherent fear that episodes of yester years might repeat themselves is what causes the crises of confidence.Let me put this point into perspective.Between the period 2003-2008 Zimbabwe expirience hyperinflation and currencies of varied denominations and form were introduced such as the Special agro cheques,Travellers cheques , Bearer cheques and a 100 trillion dollar bank note. Many people lost value of their money ,pensioners who worked from the 1960s went home with virtually nothing and business people lost their capital.

As if that was enough, in 2016,The governnment introduced Bond notes saying they were backed by foreign currency to the tune of USD 200 millon from Afre-xim Bank saying its intended to support and encourage exporters. The Bond note was to run along with the basket of 8 currencies. The truth of our expirience is that the Bond note failed. There is no difference between the bond note and The Zimbabwe Gold(ZiG) because both currencies were backed by foreign currency. So there is no guarantee that the Zimbabwe Gold will succeed,it will fail.

On 20 Feb 2019,the government through a Monetary policy statement announced that Bondnotes(notes and coins) ,Ecocash balances and one money balances were now called the RTGS dollar,an official currency that worked alongside a basket of 8 foreign currencies.4 months down the line,on the 24th of June 2019,the RBZ banned the use of the basket of foreign currencies and paved way for the RTGS dollar to work as a mono currency. What a complete Sommersault??Imagine the implication on Business planning,Pricing of contracts and forecasting?Regardless of such an unpopular decree, the people of zimbabwe resisted the unpopular law and continued to trade using the US dollar along with other foreign currencies.Again most people lost value because the RTGS dollar was then pegged at 1:1 with the USD for the purpose of recalibrating contracts ,prices and loans. This is a blatant demonstration that money can only be money if it is generally accepted by the citizens. The citizens rebelled against the its goverment because they were fedup with Monetary policy inconsistency.

On 29 March 2020,the goverment ,feeling the pressure and power of people resistence to their June 2019 monetary policy, reverted back to the use of a basket of foreign currencies to work with the RTGS dollar which was then changed name on the same date to Zimbabwean Dollar(ZWL).

Three years down the Line,Boom..another currency called the Zimbabwe dollar (ZiG) is launched.it is imperative to state that ,we have been in this vicious cycle of currency introduction, reinvention and recycle without any meaningful change. This fundamental aspect of confidence has not been addressed and as such, the new currency is bound to fail.

3.Insatiable Appetite to Print Money
The government of Zimbabwe as led by Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa has been carrying out capital projects such as road construction and other infrastructure using printed money. The RBZ itself was crediting the accounts of those Contractors using balances that did not come from the Consolidated Revenue Fund but instead created money balances there by illegally doing the work of the Ministry of Finance in what is called Quasi Fiscal operations. No wonder why the Ministry of Finance is finding it difficult to seek condonation of the unauthorised expenditures which are now sitting on the RBZ books.

The creation of such new balances to pay contractors, led to persistent money supply growth which ultimately pushed prices up leading to Inflation and widening exchange rates. As we speak, many projects are lined up and the government doesnt have access to Long term financing to support them due to the huge debt burden. As a result, the only way to finance these projects is via seinorage. This indiscipline of printing money that exceeds the Reserves that back a currency will ultimately,we are going back to the era of high inflation and exchange rate volatility and the currency will fail.We cannot trust the RBZ governer only for his word that they are not going to print because history has taught us otherwise.

4. Demand Limitations for the ZiG
The RBZ only stimulated the demand for the Zimbabwe dollar thorough only 50% of Quarterly payment Dates income tax payments payable in ZiG.It is common cause that Income tax is the 3rd highest earner of Tax revenue with around 15% contribution. As such ,50% of such will be around 7.5% of our Total Revenue is payable in ZiG.This is an outright admission by RBZ that it doesnt trust its own currency by ring fencing VAT and PAYE which are the biggest contributors to revenue to continue remitting in USD.The governor must also taste his own medicine before handing over to Zimbabweans.I expect them to ensure that all vital services such as Central registry fees(Passports, birth certifucates etc),Electricity ,fuel ,vehicle licensing,Toll fees and all statutory fines are exclusively payable in ZiG.This could have generated demand for the Zimbabwe Gold currency. Its clear that the RBZ governer and government do not trust their own currency as they themselves continue to prefer the USD.

5.Awareness Deficiency
Policy pronouncements of this nature requires extensive awareness campaigns and consultations. This could have resulted in people to become part and parcel of the new pronouncements.Imagine an old man from Dotito going to the shops to buy bread using the ZWL only to be told it was phased out.Zimbabweans were ambushed and caught off guard with the new policy pronouncement. This creats compartments of disbelief and fear of loss but when people are extensively consulted and informed, they can embrace the new without hesitation or doubt. In light of this ,the New currency will not see the light of the day.

6.Policy incompatibilty
The backing of the Zimbabwe dollar by the US dollar when the Usd is working along the the ZiG is an admission that the USD is a powerful currency and will be preferred at all material times as a store of value. This then means that people of Zimbabwe will always prefer the US dollar nomatter the circumstances and as such the USD will eventually drive out the ZiG.The Zimbabwe dollar can only be backed by foreign currency and succeed if it works as a mono currency. The demand and commoditisation of the USD will continue and the Zig will fail.

7.Production and Supply side bottlenecks
The success of a currency largely depends on the productive capacity utisation of a country. As it stands our country reels from serious under capacity utilisation as most industries remain closed,Agriculture is at its worst low due to drought caused by El Nino and infrastructure gaps that negates production.A country ‘s currency strength(exchange rate) as compared to other currencies depends largely on the competitiveness of its products on the international market. We must produce so much and in such a way that we generate more exports compared to our counterparts. As it stands ,for every 1$ worth of Exports receipts is compensated by $4 worth of imports. This means that the fundamentals are weak to sustain a new currency.

NB :All these raised issues are largely connected and sumed up to Lack of political will by the Government.Defacto leaders do not care about its people, they actually hate them for not voting them into power and as such they lead the country without the necessary legitimacy capital ,advancing selfish interests and personal aggrandizement!!!

Recommendations
In light of the impending failure of the Zimbabwe dollar,l suggest the following:

1.Full Dollarisation of the Economy
The RBZ in its Monetary policy pronouncement, admitted that 80% of Zimbabwe’ s transactions are now in USD.This literrally means that the country has fully dollarised and the USD is the currency of choice .This will eliminate the Exchange rate volatility and hyper inflation at least in the short to medium term .

2.Genuine Re engagement with International financial institutions over Debt

The country cannot continue reliance on printing money to fund capital projects which under normal circumstances require long term financing. We are not getting long term financing at the moment because of our failure to repay and service our huge debt which is currently sitting on 17 Billon USD.In light of this, a robust reengagement process is necessary to unlock long term financing for real development of infrastructure that aids production.

3.Restoration of Legitimacy

The Authority to govern is derived from the people through democratic elections.Everything else fall in its place if this fundamental issue is properly executed. No economy will flourish when the political leadership ‘s ascendancy to power is disputed.it is only when political leaders find each other and put Zimbabwe first, have a collective vision and restore Legimacy for the development of a country.Empirical evidence proves that, since 2000,disputed elections have hounded us in the form of economic challenges. We only got a reprieve between year 2009 to 2013 where a shared vision was ushered in via the Global political Agreement. From 2016, the demon came back untill today we are reeling from a crisis of misaligned politics.

Zimbabwe’s Buildings Too Old, Unsafe For Humans – Advocate Chamisa

Zimbabwean opposition leader Advocate Nelson Chamisa has raised serious concerns about the state of the country’s infrastructure, labeling it as outdated and unsafe.

His remarks come in the wake of a tragic building collapse in Harare that resulted in loss of life and injuries.

In a statement made on Tuesday, Chamisa highlighted the urgent need for comprehensive infrastructure upgrades, emphasizing the risks posed by aging buildings and facilities.

He expressed deep sympathy for the victims and their families affected by the recent disaster.

“Yesterday, on The Chamisa News Channel (CNC), I expressed my profound sorrow regarding the tragic loss of life and injuries resulting from the building collapse in Harare on Saturday. My deepest condolences go out to the bereaved families, and my thoughts and prayers are with them and those injured,” Chamisa stated.

The opposition leader stressed that it is unacceptable for such tragedies to occur due to outdated infrastructure.

“A nation cannot rely on infrastructure that is over 44 years old without undergoing renovation and reconstruction,” Chamisa emphasized, underlining the urgent need for investment and modernization in Zimbabwe’s public infrastructure.

Chamisa’s remarks underscore broader concerns about the impact of neglect and inadequate maintenance on public safety and well-being.

He attributed these challenges to what he termed “broken politics” and highlighted the need for a concerted effort to address Zimbabwe’s infrastructure deficit.

“The toll of broken politics has been evident and devastating on our nation. We stand with the bereaved and the injured during this difficult time. May God comfort them all,” Chamisa concluded, calling for unity and collective action to prevent future disasters and ensure the safety of Zimbabwean citizens.

The incident in Harare has reignited discussions about the state of infrastructure across Zimbabwe, with citizens and leaders alike calling for immediate action to address long-standing issues of neglect and disrepair.

Chamisa’s vocal stance adds pressure on the government to prioritize infrastructure development and safety measures.

As Zimbabwe navigates its economic and political challenges, the need for robust infrastructure investment emerges as a critical priority to safeguard lives and promote sustainable development.

Chamisa’s advocacy serves as a reminder of the importance of proactive governance and strategic planning to build a resilient and prosperous nation for all Zimbabweans.

Mnangagwa Uses Cash Bait To Lure Opposition Supporters To Zanu PF

ZiG Will Be Killed By Money Changers

Top economist Prof Gift Mugano has sworn that the new currency introduced by Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) Governor John Mushayavanhu will be killed by the black market just like its predecessor the bond notes.

Responding to Mushayavanhu’s presentation at the post monetary policy statement briefing, Mugano said government had failed the ZiG by allowing fuel to be sold exclusively in United States dollars when the country has its own currency.

“Our esteemed Governor underestimate the power of the black market. The decision by GOZ’s to allow exclusive use of USD at the fuel stations is the biggest mistake 101. The black market can’t be killed by ZiG. Rather, ZiG will be killed by money changers. Mark this post!,” said Mugano.

Last week, RBZ introduced a new currency which they said was backed by gold reserves. Economists have issued conflicting analysis on the new money with some saying it will fail as the prevailing environment is not yet ripe for a new currency.

Pro-government economic analysts have however said they see the introduction of a gold backed currency as a masterstroke move that will finally provide economic relief the country has been yearning for, for years.

Biti In An Embarrassing Political Downfall

By Political Reporter- The acting roational President of the CCC, Tendai Biti, has announced his departure from the main opposition party.

Early this year, Biti teamed up with Welshman Ncube and booted out Nelson Chamisa from the CCC.

Biti cited the need for a break from politics to engage in soul-searching activities.
Speaking exclusively on HSTV’s #FreeTalk show, Biti revealed his decision to step away from the political arena, expressing a desire to explore other avenues to challenge the ruling Zanu PF party’s authority.

Dismissing claims made by CCC spokesperson Jacob Mafume regarding his role in the party’s leadership, Biti clarified that he was not involved in any decision-making process regarding rotational leadership within the CCC.
Biti’s withdrawal from the CCC leadership, alongside Welshman Ncube and Lynette Kairenyi Kore, sparked public outrage, with accusations of betrayal and collusion with Zanu PF. However, Biti vehemently denied these allegations, asserting his commitment to pursuing democratic change in Zimbabwe.
During his tenure as a Member of Parliament, Biti gained prominence for his anti-corruption efforts and urged Zimbabweans to take control of their fight for democracy, emphasizing the importance of collective responsibility.
Biti’s departure comes shortly after Ncube’s declaration of success in unifying the opposition and strengthening the CCC. However, another faction within the CCC, led by Jameson Timba, interpreted Biti’s resignation as a validation of their stance, asserting Nelson Chamisa’s leadership as the only legitimate one within the party.
Despite his temporary withdrawal from politics, Biti assured his supporters of his eventual return before the 2028 general elections, signaling his enduring commitment to Zimbabwean democracy.

Mzembi Mocks Biti Over Sabbatical Move

By A Correspondent| Former Foreign Affairs minister Walter Mzembi has mocked former Citizens Coalition for Change vice President Tendai Biti over his move to take a sabbatical from politics.

Posting on X, Mzembi said politicians will never take a sabbatical from politics as it is impossible to offload a purpose just like that.

“Political Sabbatical is when a Politician says I am taking leave from Politics . I tried it , and came out of it mentally before the ink pronouncing my Sabbatical had dried on the “100% cotton paper” I was scribbling on,” said Mzembi.

He added that politicians will only take a sabbatical from politics when they are dead.

“Reality is a Politician will only take a Sabbatical when he is 6 feet under . Its impossible to offload a purpose just like that , so a Sabbatical may just mean a leader with no formal leadership responsibility, no obligations to anyone but for how long my generation shall we be like Jonah of Nineveh while Rome burns?” added Mzembi.

Speaking on HSTV’s #FreeTalk show, Biti revealed his decision to step away from the political arena, expressing a desire to explore other avenues to challenge the ruling Zanu PF party’s authority.

Biti further clarified that he was not involved in any decision-making process regarding rotational leadership within the CCC.

UK Denies Qualified Zim Woman Permanent Residence 22 Times

Who Leaked Mai Titi’s Pictures, Content?

Hailstorm Hits Midlands

HEAVY rains which were accompanied by strong winds left a trail of destruction in Midlands province with Gweru Provincial Hospital being damaged.

Part of the roof of the recently commissioned Centre Excellence at Gweru Provincial Hospital was blown away, while some vehicles were destroyed after being crashed by trees.

Midlands Provincial Medical Director Dr Mary Muchekeza however, assured the nation of normal services despite the unfortunate incident.

“We experienced an extensive hailstorm yesterday for a very short time. Unfortunately, some trees fell over the buildings. The building is centre for excellence for patients that are being treated for HIV and Aids using anti-retroviral therapy. The damage from our preliminary assessment as a team, shows that it was not extensive. What was extensive was the storm. The damage to the building is not going to disrupt any service delivery as far as we are concerned. So our message to the community is that they can still continue to come to Gweru Provincial Hospital for their services,” she said.

Government urged the local authority to cut down trees which have outlived their lifespan, while pledging support for rehabilitating the damaged building.

“I would want to urge the local authority, to trim tall trees mainly the big and old trees, and in the essence of beautification our city. They should also go a step in collaboration with forestry commission so that they re-green the city. This must be done in a way that they put new trees and also appropriate species in cognisance with the climate change that we are experiencing nowadays. We are also urging the communities, even private parties, to also trim their trees and cut down most of those old trees in their properties. During hailstorms, it is not appropriate to park vehicles under trees,” highlighted Provincial Civil Protection Unit chairperson,” Mr Charltone Murove.

The country experienced some hailstorms over the weekend which led to the destruction of property, with a building collapsing in Harare killing one person, injuring six and damaging property.

ZiG Confusion Continues

BANKS and payment service providers have made little progress in converting clients’ Zimbabwe dollar bank balances into ZiG as only USD transactions are being conducted with most supermarkets registering low business activity this Monday.

A survey conducted by ZBC News in Harare revealed that most online payment platforms for ZiG transactions are still suspended and supermarkets are only processing US$ transactions as banks have not successfully aligned their systems to the new ZiG currency regime.

During his Monetary Policy Statement presentation, Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe Governor, Dr John Mushayavanhu said banks would have successfully converted Zimbabwe dollar balances into ZiG balances by end of day this Monday.

Bankers Association of Zimbabwe president, Mr Fanwell Mutogo shied away from giving a position on the progress banks have made and did not give a position on the progress of transitioning into the new ZiG currency regime.

However, some banks such as NMB have alerted their clients of new ZiG balances having successfully converted from the Zimbabwe dollar balances while mobile money operator, Ecocash is now displaying ZiG currency functions on its menu.

“Our members have accepted the introduction of the new ZiG currency and are still reconfiguring their systems to the new currency regime. However, there is low business activity as most mobile platforms are still down and banks have not yet completed transitioning to the new ZiG currency,” said Confederation of Zimbabwe Retailers president, Denford Mutashu.

Zimbabwe dollar bank balances are being converted into ZiG currency using a rate of 1 is to 2498.72.

The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) has advised the nation that new ZiG notes and coins will start circulating on the 30th of this month, hence for now transactions in ZiG will only be restricted to online and mobile platforms.

Klopp To Leave Liverpool?

Liverpool have reportedly reached a verbal agreement with Sporting Lisbon coach Rúben Amorim to replace Jurgen Klopp, who is set to leave the post at the end of the season.

Klopp announced two months ago that he set to leave the EPL giants after nine years in charge.

Amorim emerged as a top target to replace him after it became clear that current Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso will not become available this summer.

According to Sky Sports, 39-year-old Amorim is said to have discussed a three-year contract to become the German’s successor.

However, final terms are still to be agreed with Sporting.

Portuguese newspaper Correio da Manha added that Liverpool will meet with Amorim’s agent, Raul Costa, on Tuesday to “outline the terms of an agreement.”

Meanwhile, Bayern Munich and Chelsea have also been linked with Rúben Amorim.

Man Beaten To Death For “Stealing” Maize Cobs

By A Correspondent

In a disturbing turn of events in Harare, Zimbabwe, a man was brutally killed by a mob on April 5th for allegedly stealing maize cobs from a field.

The incident, which occurred in an open space in Rugare, highlights the dangerous consequences of mob justice and the urgent need for authorities to address community violence.

According to reports from the Harare police, a group of individuals attacked an unidentified man after he was caught red-handed by Gift Kamuripa, the owner of the maize field.

The situation quickly escalated as the mob took matters into their own hands, resulting in the tragic death of the accused thief.

In a surprising twist, Gift Kamuripa, the aggrieved farmer, has been arrested in connection with the murder, underscoring the complexities surrounding cases of mob violence.

The use of mob violence to address alleged crimes is not unique to this incident.

Across the globe, instances of vigilante justice often lead to dire consequences, undermining the rule of law and perpetuating cycles of violence.

In this case, the swift escalation from suspicion to violence serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by such actions.

Furthermore, this tragedy comes on the heels of another chilling incident in Gwanda, where Khaulani Ndlovu was discovered dead with multiple stab wounds along a dust road between Mornef and Bina mine area on April 6th.

The circumstances surrounding Ndlovu’s murder remain unclear, with authorities in Gwanda urging the public to come forward with any information that could aid in their investigation.

These recent events underscore the importance of addressing community concerns through legal channels and fostering a culture of accountability. While it’s understandable that individuals may feel compelled to take matters into their own hands, resorting to violence only serves to perpetuate chaos and erode trust in the justice system.

Law enforcement agencies must play a pivotal role in restoring faith in due process and ensuring that justice is served fairly and impartially.

Community engagement, education on legal rights, and prompt investigations into criminal activities are essential steps towards preventing future acts of mob violence.

In the wake of these tragedies, it’s crucial for communities to come together and reaffirm their commitment to the principles of justice and respect for human life.

The senseless loss of lives in Harare and Gwanda should serve as a sobering reminder of the devastating impact of vigilante justice and the imperative to uphold the rule of law.

As investigations continue into both cases, the hope is that those responsible for these heinous acts will be brought to justice, and that communities can heal from the trauma inflicted by these senseless acts of violence.

Hailstorm Causes Havoc In Gweru

State Broadcaster Admits ZiG Chaos

Mnangagwa Confesses Distroying Chamisa

By Political Reporter- The President of Zanu, PF Emerson Mnangagwa, has confessed to playing a part in destroying the opposition CCC.

In an interview with state aligned “The Third Eye” magazine, the President said he is enjoying the fights in the opposition as that will ensure a weak opponent that cannot challenge Zanu PF.

On his opinion on the factional wars, which have seen the opposition crumbling like a deck of cards, Mnangagwa said, “I laugh and enjoy”.
“Look, I am the head of a political party. If my opponents are fighting, I laugh and enjoy. Why would I bother to say I want a very strong opposition that can challenge me?
“It’s good to have an opposition. Our laws allow opposition, that is why opposition parties are here. They have their internal conflicts and internal difficulties. It’s legitimate to them. They must resolve their problems. They cannot expect Zanu PF to go and intervene and say, ‘Look, you are becoming weaker and weaker, and this is not good for us.’ NO! We will not do that,” said the President.
After losing last year’s harmonised elections to Zanu PF, CCC has been trapped in bloodletting factional wars that have been characterised by recalls from Parliament and local authorities.
Apart from triggering costly by-elections, CCC has since splintered into four notable factions that now seek to access funds disbursed under the Political Parties (Finance) Act
Asked to comment on assertions by opposition officials and their supporters that they have been infiltrated, the President said the solution is just to remove the infiltrators.
“They should remove those who have infiltrated them (laughs). That is the only solution. Just remove them.”
Further, the President said the governing party, which brought democracy and political pluralism to the country after a protracted liberation struggle, cannot pass laws that stop people from holding different opinions or views. “If people don’t understand each other and can’t work together, they will say so. You can’t put a law that says don’t differ (laughs).”
On the international stage, the President railed at the American government for ignoring the genocidal massacre of Palestinians in Gaza by Israel, and then in forked tongues lecture to Zimbabwe about democracy and human rights.
“This is why we have said America applies double standards. This is a clear example of double standards. There is nothing about (abuse of) human rights you can speak of here in Zimbabwe, totally.
“We are a free, democratic country. We allow the opposition and we allow elections. If America wants to know where democracy is practised, they should come to Harare. They should come to Zimbabwe and see democracy in practice.”
Zimbabwe, for daring to correct colonial land inequities, was slapped with illegal economic sanctions by the Western world, which made it clear that the punitive embargoes were a tool for regime change.
Recently, the US made some piecemeal adjustments on the illegal sanctions but the President said that is still unacceptable as they must be removed in toto.
“Well, these sanctions have been placed on us since 2001. It’s now about 23 years on. These sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe are illegal. That is the position also of the United Nations Security Council. Now, the Biden administration proposed to remove some of them and leave some of them on.
“We are saying no. In the first place, they are totally illegal. They must go in totality. We cannot feel that he is being benevolent by removing part of the illegality and leaving part of the illegality on us. The illegality must go in total,” he said.
“These sanctions have been on us for more than 23 years. I don’t think there is anybody in Zimbabwe who is losing sleep over the sanctions. We only get reminded of the sanctions when people talk about them. We don’t feel that we are on sanctions,” said the President.
In the interview, the President maintained Zimbabwe will continue on its engagement and re-engagement drive on the international front while pursuing policies for accelerated industrialisation and modernisation towards Vision 2030.
