Airlink Conquers Entire SADC Region

Source : Airlink

FlyNamibia, Airlink’s franchisee partner, will operate new flights between Windhoek and Victoria Falls, opening the sky for round trip multi-destination travel in Southern Africa.

It is the first scheduled air service between the two destinations and lets travellers fly directly between iconic tourist locations, e.g. Cape Town – central Namibia – Victoria Falls – Kruger Park, all on a single ticket. In doing so, this route, and others to follow, will reduce travel time, letting business and leisure travellers spend more time where they want to be, instead of undertaking circuitous routings with connections through an en route hub airport.

Flights on the new route will commence from 04 April 2024. They will be operated by FlyNamibia, with modern and comfortable 50-seat Embraer 145 aircraft and flown under Airlink’s “4Z” flight code.

“Our partnership strategy with FlyNamibia is to maximise the opportunity to establish Windhoek’s Hosea Kutako International Airport as a gateway to other regional destinations. The new Windhoek-Victoria Falls route is the first manifestation of this, and we expect to announce more in the coming weeks and months. It will benefit our customers by making it more convenient to travel between the region’s main attractions. It also creates opportunities for our partners in the travel and tourism sector to offer new itineraries,” said Airlink CEO and Managing Director, Rodger Foster.

These flights are available in the Global Distribution System (GDS), which provides reach into travel source markets around the world.

“By connecting Windhoek and Victoria Falls, under this agreement, FlyNamibia is creating new opportunities for tourists and business travellers. With this route, FlyNamibia will stimulate tourism while also fostering trade, commerce, and broader economic activity between Namibia and Zimbabwe,” explained Andrè Compion, Managing Director of FlyNamibia.

Seamless single-ticket itineraries involving more than one flight, provide travellers with greater security in the event of any interruption to their journey.

John Mugogo Attorneys Facing Allegations of Misappropriating Client’s Funds

By A Correspondent| John Mugogo Attorneys is embroiled in a legal dispute over allegations of misappropriating trust funds. The firm is accused of failing to deliver a payment made through the firm to settle a debt.

The payment was made last year by Wynester Trading Private Limited, on behalf of the Murwira family, who were clients of John Mugogo Attorneys in a farming joint venture.

Despite the payment of US$3,969 being made to the family in October 2022, only US$1,500 has been disbursed.

According to the family’s executor, Phillip Murwira, John Mugogo Attorneys became evasive after receiving the payment.

“Initially, they denied receiving the money, prompting us to seek proof of payment from Wynester Trading. Once we presented the evidence, they acknowledged receiving the funds and admitted to paying US$1,500,” Murwira explained.

“However, they subsequently blocked all communication channels, leaving us with no choice but to reach out to them through the media,” he added.

Efforts to obtain a comment from John Mugogo proved futile as he declined numerous attempts by the publication to seek his response.

Outrage Over Zimplats’ $380k Spend On Two Village Classroom Blocks

By A Correspondent| Following Zimplats’ announcement that it had funded the construction of two classroom blocks at a school in Mhondoro Ngezi for US$380 000, social media users have accused the company of inflating figures and playing games with Zimra.

According to a local daily, Zimplats constructed two classroom blocks and ablution facilities at Turf Primary School for US$380 000 as part of its corporate social responsibility.

While the company was excited about its gesture to the community, social media users were quick to notice that the amount of money used for the project was way above market standards in what smacks of massive corruption and pilferage.

“ZIMPLATS yesterday commissioned & handed over two classroom blocks and ablution facilities that were constructed at a cost of about US$380 000 to Turf Primary School in Mhondoro Ngezi District as part of its corporate and social responsibility initiatives,” reads a tweet posted by a local daily.

In response, social media users felt the figures were inflated and way above standard prices for such facilities.

Citizen Initiative leader, Freeman Chari responded to the Daily News article saying building a classroom block costs not more than US$35 000 adding that with the US$380 000 used by Zimplats, they could have built 10 blocks.

“It costs at most $35k in Mhondoro to build one with electricals and ceiling . Even if we put a 100% corruption markup $380k is wild. Next time, give to us we wld have built 10,” said Chari.

Below are some of the responses to the Daily News article:

“USD380k for two village classroom blocks? Who said corruption was a preserve of government officials only. This is tragic.”

“Assuming all of the $380 000 went towards cement with an average price of $10 per bag that’s a whooping 38 000 bags.”

“380 000 for just 2 blocks? Where they importing tiles from the Netherlands and Architects FROM the UAE?.”

Human Rights Commission Further Dents Mnangagwa’s Legitimacy

The Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission (ZHRC) post-election report has pointed out glaring irregularities during the 2023 harmonized polls including the involvement of affiliate organisations.

In its report, ZHRC, said despite the peaceful and calmness that prevailed during the election period, the watchdog received cases of violation of civil and political rights, including, intimidation, coercion and threats among others.

The incidents, according to ZHRC, allegedly instilled fear in some of the electorate thereby infringing on the political rights guaranteed in the Constitution.

“ZHRC noted the involvement of Affiliate Groups during the 2023 Harmonized elections. These included Team Pachedu, Forever Associates Zimbabwe (FAZ) and the Zimbabwe Heritage Trust (ZHT), among others. It was evident throughout the whole electoral cycle that these Affiliate Organisations had significant influence in the electoral processes,” read the report.

The media coverage for the 2023 elections, according to the report, was polarized.

“The public media (electronic and print) by and large, reported more in favour of the ruling party whilst the private media reported more favourably on opposition political party activities.

“There was evidence of more traffic on different social media platforms, and this had become an alternative major source of information for the electorate.”

The pre-election period as noted by ZHRC was also characterised by several court cases relating to the qualification of candidates contesting for different positions, including for presidency.

“The nomination fees for the Presidential and National Assembly and Local Authority positions were increased and were beyond the reach of some contestants, particularly women.

“It is believed that the high fees acted as a deterrent to chancers who would have jumped on board like they did in the previous election of 2018, where there were 23 Presidential Candidates,” ZHRC said.

In some Constituencies, the elections were characterized by logistical and technical glitches, such as late delivery of voting materials to polling stations.

“In order to adhere to the 12-hour voting period prescribed by the law, affected polling stations were allowed to compensate for lost time, caused by either late opening of polling stations or running out of ballot papers.

“As a result, voting extended into the following day, which was 24th of August 2023. These challenges inconvenienced some citizens and most likely affected their right to vote.”

Despite the extension to vote, ZHRC said some affected polling stations were open during the night only.

“Of concern was that some affected polling stations were mostly open during the night, making it difficult for vulnerable groups such as women and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) to visit such polling stations and cast their vote.”

The human rights watchdog said there were also allegations of intimidation, organised voting, the conflation of roles by some traditional leaders who doubled up as political agents; and practices of conducting exit poll surveys, which might have compromised secrecy of the ballot.

Trio in soup over extortion

By A Correspondent- Three people have appeared in court on allegations of extorting US$100 000 from a suspected thief as an inducement to stop them from reporting the theft to the police.

Elizabeth Nyamande (35), Evernice Nyamande (30) and Emmanuel Ngorima (38) were charged with extortion when they appeared before Harare Magistrate Mrs Marehwanazvo Gofa who freed them on US$500 bail each.

It is the State’s case that the trio received information that the complainant (who is not named) was in possession of large sum of money she had stolen from an unknown person in South Africa.

The trio approached the complainant and demanded US$100 000 cash so that they would not report her to the police.

It is alleged that the complainant gave the trio the money, some of which they used to buy motor vehicles.

Officers from CID Homicide conducted investigations leading to the recovery of Mazda Attenza from Nyamande, Toyota Corolla Axio from Evernice Nyamande and Toyota Corolla together with US$2 000 from Ngorima. The Herald

Mother And Wife Survive Bulawayo Man’s Rage

BULAWAYO – A man told a court on Tuesday that he fears his 26-year-old son more than a lion after escaping the latter’s attempt to burn him and his wife alive.

Themba Mathe, of Tsholotsho, pleaded guilty to two counts of attempted murder at the Bulawayo Magistrates Court, blaming “evil spirits” for his actions.

The court heard that on October 9, 2023, just after 11PM, Mathe went to his parents’ bedroom hut and tied the door from outside with a wire. He proceeded to set the thatch roof on fire fully knowing that his parents were sleeping inside.

His father, Bhithi Mathe and stepmother Siphiwe Ndlovu woke up to find the house engulfed in smoke and flames. They managed to force the door open and escaped without any physical injuries or burns.

Once outside, they alerted neighbours who tried to put out the fire but could not contain it. All the property inside was destroyed.

Themba was apprehended when his parents and neighbours tracked his footsteps from the door to the bush where he was hiding.

Taking the stand at Tredgold Magistrate Courts, Themba pleaded guilty to all counts before magistrate Collet Dube. In his defence, he said he was acting in revenge as his father does not love him.

“I admit to these two counts of attempted murder. I acted in the way I did for two reasons, firstly it was out of revenge because my parents don’t love me, they don’t take me as their own son and deny me food. They had chased me away from home and I was now staying with my grandfather Pharaoh Mathe of the same village,” he said.

“Secondly, I don’t know what got over me. I suspect it could have been evil spirits behind my actions. I am really sorry for what I did.”

His father, as the State’s key witness, said he was terrified of his son, asking the court to send him to jail for a long time so that he learns valuable life lessons behind bars.

“I’ve never been so scared in my life. I stared death face-to-face and lost all my property valued at US$600. I’m more scared of my son than I am of a lion! As I stand here, my wife and I have nothing under our name. I now sleep in the kitchen and we have no food.

“I would love for him to be given a custodial sentence so that learns life and how to co-exist with people. He’s lying that we chased him from home. He chases himself because of his mischievous acts that once got me beaten up by people from our community.”

Mathe will be sentenced on Wednesday.

FAZ retraces footsteps into elections

By A Correspondent- Forever Associates Zimbabwe (Faz), a shadowy organisation linked to the country’s spy agency, has retraced its footsteps back into the political arena, this time campaigning for ruling party candidates vying for nine parliamentary seats which fell vacant following recalls by the self-imposed main opposition party secretary-general Sengezo Tshabangu.

Vacancies were created when Tshabangu wrote to the clerk of Parliament, announcing that he had recalled 14 legislators drawn from Matabeleland South, Matabeleland North and Bulawayo provinces as well as Mabvuku-Tafara constituency in Harare.

Several opposition local authority councillors were also recalled. Now as the 9 December by-elections draw closer, Faz, which was at the centre of President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s disputed electoral victory, is using both overt and covert tactics to win erstwhile opposition seats.

While some vacancies will be filled without going to polls through proportional representation, there will be by-elections in nine constituencies.

Gathered information indicates that Faz, which is headed by deputy director-general of the Central Intelligence Organisation Walter Tapfumanei, has therefore redeployed its officers in the constituencies where they are using various campaign strategies to help Zanu PF snatch seats from CCC and achieve its aim to have a two-thirds majority in Parliament that can enable the ruling party to tinker with the constitution.

In Lupane, where there is a by election, Faz is employing intimidation tactics by threatening villagers that they will be excluded from government food handouts and agricultural input programmes if they continued voting for the opposition.

In other areas, Faz members are carrying out door-to-door campaigns, with Zanu PF cell registers forcing residents to give out their personal details that the shadowy group will use on its exit poll survey desks.

Gift “Ostalos” Siziba, the CCC deputy spokesperson, in an interview, confirmed that Faz has gone back to the ground in its bid to push for Zanu PF victories in the campaigns albeit through undemocratic means.

“Faz is working in communities so that Zanu PF wins on the margin of terror. They are also coming into urban areas now and the case of slain Bishop Tapfumanei Masaya is the latest example.

“In a free and fair election, Zanu PF knows that it will never win a single seat in those by-elections. We have said that any elections without reforms is not about political choices but life and death. The elections are no longer about contestation of ideas but life and death,” he said.

Ezoic

Siziba revealed that the CCC has since de[1]vised ways to slow down Faz and push back on its nasty activities.

“We are deploying young people to defend the vote. We know they want to win through ballot stuffing. As a democratic party, we are also continuing to report cases to police even though they seem powerless to tackle Faz. We are saying police under all circumstances must perform their constitutional duties of protecting citizens,” said the deputy CCC spokesperson.

During the last elections, details of how the intelligence service through Faz was running the Zanu PF campaign as defined in its operating manual titled “Scope of Campaign Activities”.

Part of the document reads: “The mainstay of this campaign is door-to-door intimate voter contact. This allows the volunteer to move from house-to-house and workplace-to-workplace, talking to individual voters one at a time. This, in turn, enables the volunteer to know the problems voters face, gauge their level of support for party and candidate, and tailor massages and campaign activities to address their concerns. These visits must not be once-off, but must become regular to help the party to dominate and saturate the environment while denying the same to opponents.”

Faz also played a major role in destabilising the opposition at the candidate nomination exercise for the 23 August polls. The shadowy group planted double and sometimes triple parallel candidates to those genuinely put forward by the Nelson Chamisa-led party, in a well-orchestrated ploy to split the opposition vote.

The chicanery involved sponsoring the candidates to submit nomination papers to the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) without the approval of the CCC and also forging the signatures and logo of the party. The trend was rampant in Harare’s peri-urban constituencies where Zanu PF was anxious to outfox the opposition.

Kudakwashe Chatambudza was the only candidate on the official CCC shortlist for Epworth South, but two names, Solomon Baramasimbe and Dydmus Bande, emerged on a Zec list, making a total of three CCC candidates vying for that constituency and the mess was engineered by Faz.

In Harare East, where Allan “Rusty” Markham and Tendai Biti made it to the final CCC short[1]list and Markham emerged as the preferred candidate but, shockingly, a strange individual Malvin Razaru, appeared on the Zec list as a CCC candidate.

Joana Mamombe was the CCC candidate for Harare West, but Faz pushed through Farai Michael Padzarondora to appear alongside her as a CCC candidate.

In St Mary’s (Chitungwiza), Freddy Michael Masarirevhu of the CCC was listed allegedly without his knowledge as another candidate after the party’s official candidate, Brighton Mazhindu.

Faz forged signatures as well as the party logo and proceeded to pay nomination fees for him. Harare South, a peri-urban area represented by Mnangagwa’s relative Tongai Mnangagwa on a Zanu PF ticket, ended up having three candidates for the CCC: George Magweta, Dorothy Musonza and Trouble Hasha after Faz interference.

While Agency Gumbo was the official candidate for the CCC in Hatcliffe, Faz added one more, Lloyd Sande, in a bid to split the opposition and harvest votes for Zanu PF.

Faz spread its operation to Hunyani constituency where Lovemore Chinoputsa, the official CCC candidate, appeared on the Zec list with another individual, Terrence Khumbula, using the opposition party name.

In Hatfield, the CCC’s Revai Nyamuronda again appeared on the Zec final list with another candidate pushed by Faz to contest using the same party name, Admire Griza. In Bulawayo, three constituencies had two CCC double candidates — Phelandaba-Tshabalala, Entumbane-Njube and Pumula.

CCC candidates Donald Mabutho and Bekithemba Nyathi both filed papers to contest in ward 9, again at the instigation of Faz.

Soon after the August 23 general elections, foreign election observer missions accredited to Zimbabwe flagged the involvement of Faz in manipulating voting preferences, predominantly in rural areas.

Faz has been accused of intimidating the rural electorate while mobilising support for Zanu PF as part of Mnangagwa’s power retention plan. NewsHawks

Time To End Mutoriro Scourge

AS part of efforts to upscale the fight against drug abuse, government is developing a Drug and Substance Abuse Demand Reduction Strategy.

The Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Development and Vocational Training in partnership with Silveira House and the University of Zimbabwe, conducted a baseline survey around the country’s provinces, to interrogate issues surrounding drug and substance abuse to come up with strategies to deal with the menace.

The baseline conducted in May revealed that 72 percent of drug and substance abusers are males, especially those who reside in urban areas.

“72 percent of drug and substance abuse are males. To try and come up with drug reduction strategy, there is a national committee on drug and substance abuse and the Ministry of Youth is responsible for the drug reduction pillar. We are now using the information we got from the baseline that we carried out in partnership with Silveira House and the University of Zimbabwe. We are using that information to feed into formulation of drug reduction pillar. We have quite a few recommendations and now we want to come up with news ways of approaching the problem. From the baseline we have a number of issues which need strategies to address them. We noted that one of the biggest challenges we are having is that one of the most commonly used drug is mbanje and it is easily accessible so it’s a toll order coming up with a strategy that addresses the abuse of that drug,” said Director Strategic Policy Planning Monitoring and Evaluation, Dr Blazio Manobo.

The University of Zimbabwe and Silveira House researchers who are working with the ministry in coming up with the strategy, highlighted some of the key thematic issues that their research explored.

We were looking into the key sources of drugs, drivers, availability and usage patterns. 72 percent of drug abusers are males and most of them are young men below the age of 35. Drug and substance abuse is more prevalent in urban areas than rural. It’s prevalent among the educated, post- secondary school education,” noted Silveira House research officer, Mr David Bote.

University of Zimbabwe Department of Applied Psychology chairperson, Dr Samson Mhizha said, From the research we found out that majority of drug and substance abusers are young males and most of them are in urban areas. There is a relationship between drug and substance abuse, and age, gender and place of residence.”

Government has established the inter-ministerial task force on drug and substance abuse to coordinate the fight against the scourge and since then, robust strategies have been deployed to fight the social ill, including dealing with the supply chain and converting Covid-19 isolation centres into rehabilitation centres.-ZBC News

Mention Just One Achievement Made By Second Republic

THE Second Republic has transformed the country’s infrastructure, agriculture, and the education sectors within six years of existence and stakeholders are predicting the current implementation rate will see Vision 2030 being attained way before the deadline.

Championed by President Emmerson Mnangagwa, Vision 2030 was announced under the mantra: ‘Nyika Inovakwa Nevene Vayo/ Ilizwe Lakhiwa Ngabanikazi Balo.’

The Harare-Beitbridge road has become a hive of activity following its ongoing rehabilitation, with more than 400 kilometres having already been opened to the public.

At the same time, the Emergency Road Rehabilitation Programme has also played a key role in transforming urban roads.

“The Second Republic has registered major milestones on the infrastructure side. We can talk about the Harare-Beitbridge Road, bridges, Beitbridge-Bulawayo highway. We used to think these works cannot be done by local firms,” noted University of Cambodia lecturer, Mr Bothwell Riside.

In the mining sector, new mines particularly for lithium and gold have been opened, while some have either been revived or expanded in a development that has created employment for thousands of Zimbabweans.

Transformation in the agricultural sector has seen the country breaking records in succession and in the process achieving food security at household level as explained by IBDC president, Mr Cliff Chafausipo, “We have achieved bumper harvests for maize and wheat in the last couple of years. In the tobacco sector, we have seen people in general being empowered to the effect that they are celebrating the land reform 20 years later as they have made huge earnings.”

The Gwayi-Shangani Lake is the leading project in efforts towards ensuring the country has reliable water bodies for irrigation.

“Zimbabwe has made history by transforming the country’s landscape despite being under illegal economic sanctions. With this level of implementation of huge projects, vision 2030 will be attained sooner,” he added.

In bridging the gap between corporates and institutions of higher learning, the Second Republic has come up with innovation hubs and industrial parks.

“Every institution of higher learning has innovation hubs and industrial parks, this has made it possible for students and companies to come up with prototypes which is beneficial to everyone,” said political analyst, Dr Tawanda Zinyama.

Zimbabwe boasts of the New Parliament building which was constructed with the assistance of the Chinese Government.

The Beitbridge Border Post modernisation project has also attracted the attention of regional leaders and tourists after it transformed the border town, which also witnessed construction of accommodation for civil servants.

Rural industrialisation is also at the heart of the Second Republic with Mwenezi having the Amarula plant which has created incomes among communities among other projects.

For analysts, the developmental strides by the Second Republic are phenomenal despite the country being under illegal economic sanctions.

Has VP Constantino Chiwenga Been Fired? – FACT CHECK

Oppah Muchinguri

By A Correspondent | An SABC branded video circulated suggesting that Vice President Constantino Chiwenga has been demoted and replaced by Oppah Muchinguri, and also that the late President Robert Mugabe’s preferred successor Sydney Sekeramayi has bounced back into government.

“I hear from SABC news about the Zim new cabinet ministers 1.vice presidents Kembo Mohadi and Oppah Muchinguri also saying Chinamasa back to his old job finance minister. Anyone from home he can confirm that?,” wrote Radie Thabiso.

The ZANU PF Information Department has viciously dismissed the clip.

ZimEye reveals that the clip has its origins during the week just after the notorious military coup back in 2017. During that period there were many guesses and misses misleading broadcasters and publishers, and the clip was first cited on 26 Nov 2017.

VERDICT: No. Constantino Chiwehga has not been fired and there has not been any cabinet reshuffle this week.

Biti Slams Tshabangu

CCC rebel Sengezo Tshabangu has claimed that he had a dinner meeting last week with the CCC Vice President Tendai Biti at a local hotel.

However, Biti has dismissed these claims on social media that he had dinner with Tshabangu at Monomotapa Crowne Plaza in Harare.

Tshabangu is the public face behind the ongoing recall of CCC MPs, senators and councillors, though some commentators believe he is working with disgruntled CCC members.

According to an X account bearing Tshabangu’s name, Biti had dinner with the controversial activist soon after the latter’s recent interview on ZBC TV.

Read the post:

Just after my interview on ZBC, I had dinner with one of our decorated Change Champions and learned man Hon Biti @Crown Plaza, as he’s a victim of dictatorship, we deliberated on pertinent issues that will add value to our Struggle for democracy, transparency and constitutionalism.

However, Biti told The NewsHawks that he hasn’t met Tshabangu in a long time and has not had a meal at Monomotapa Hotel in 20 years. Said Biti:

That’s false and malicious. I haven’t seen Tshabangu for a long time and haven’t eaten at Crowne Plaza for 20 years now!

Biti reiterated that he has nothing to do with the issue of recalls which have resulted in the expulsion of scores of CCC elected representatives in parliament and municipalities.

Mnangagwa Congratulates Self For” Building”Country

Mutoriro Scourge Torments Nation

Harare Man Loses $500 To Thigh Vendors In A Threesome Deal

By-A Harare man has lost more than US$500 to two sex workers who lured him for a threesome.

The unsuspecting man, only identified as Tafadzwa, was seduced by one Sasha and agreed to pay US$5.
Sasha went on to introduce him to her partner-in-crime, only identified as Mitchel, and they offered him a threesome for US$10.
The three booked flat 2, at Gail Court along Samora Machel Avenue, where they were charged US$10 by one Sniper.
Tafadzwa quenched his sexual appetite with the two.
Sasha and Mitchel turned on Tafadzwa, soon after the session, demanding more money.
They snatched a wallet from his vehicle, containing US$500, and took to their heels.
One passerby called police and the two were arrested and taken to Roadport Police Base where Tafadzwa recovered some of his money.
“I regret falling for these ladies,” said Tafadzwa.
“I could not let them escape with my money since it was a lot and belongs to my grandmother.
“We collected it from family members and I was supposed to take it to our grandmother.
“Tawirirana US$5 ndokuzonzi threesome unoiziva here, wedzera tiite neumwe wangu uyu.
“Ipapo ndipo pandabwaira.
“I managed to recover US$340 when police arrested them,” said Tafadzwa.
Sasha and Mitchel refused to entertain H-Metro.
The two were released after Tafadzwa refused to make a formal report against the sex workers.
Tenants at Gail Court called on authorities to deal with their counterparts in Room 2, saying it was being used by drug dealers and sex workers to extort people.
“We want the tenant called Sniper to be evicted because we are tired of being harassed by police because of people who stay there.
“Ndimo murikuitirwa mabasa ehumhondi, njuga nekusvutirwa zvinodhaka,” said one tenant. H Metro

Parents Beat-Up Teachers Over Satanism

By- Parents Monday besieged and disrupted learning at Hotsprings Secondary School in Chimanimani, baying for the blood of two teachers and accusing them of initiating more than 23 students into satanism.

Police had to be deployed to the school as the angry parents protested and shouted profanities at the two teachers (names withheld).
The arrival of the police did not deter the angry mob from picketing and they ended up surrounding the police truck, demanding their arrest.
“We will not leave. We are paying school fees for our children enrolled at this school, so it is our right to demand the safety of our children here. We are prepared to be arrested,” shouted the protesters.
Weekender understands that since Sunday, learners at the school have been experiencing unexplained phenomena, including throwing themselves on the ground and uttering inaudible words.
Ms Netsai Kudana of Nemutenzi Village believes that the two teachers are behind the strange phenomena affecting learners, parents and teachers at the school.
She said her brother’s 15-year-old daughter, whom she stays with, had manifested the previous day, together with four other girls at one of the teachers’ houses.
“My niece is struggling to walk since yesterday (Sunday) when she manifested and slithered like a snake. We are clueless on how to assist her, the teachers involved should give us the answers.

“It all started yesterday morning when we heard that my niece’s classmate was manifesting at the school’s staff quarters.
“People gathered to witness the drama. At least four girls were writhing on the ground and uttering inaudible words. My niece then fell to the ground and started slithering like a snake. Her classmate said she is part of the group that was initiated into satanism by their teacher,” said Ms Kudana.
Mr Maxwell Macheza said his daughter was the first one to manifest during a church service.
“It happened at church and we decided to take her to the teacher’s house. She said the teacher (name provided) was directing her to kill her mother and offer her as a sacrifice to the cult.
“She said they were initiated through sweets. Apparently, this teacher sells sweets at the school. At least five learners manifested yesterday. They all claimed that there are three snakes in the teacher’s house. They also claimed that there is a clay pot with their names in the teacher’s house,” said Mr Macheza.
Acting Chief Mutambara sent a message that a traditional leader was ready to assist the affected learners at his place.
As soon as that message was relayed, more children started manifesting, throwing themselves to the ground, screaming and begging to be spared by the teacher.
Said Mr Macheza: “We will not take our children to the chief’s place. The chief should come here and solve the matter because it is happening at this school. We will not leave until our children recover from these attacks.”
A School Development Committee member, Mrs Gloria Machaya, accused the school head, a Mr Matsikure, of working in connivance with the two teachers.
“We asked Chief Mutambara to second a traditional healer to the school and he had agreed, but the school headmaster, Mr Matsikure, called the chief in our presence. He did not know that the chief’s phone was on loud speaker and he told him that he suspected that everything was being stage managed.

“He said the learners were faking everything. That is why Chief Mutambara asked us to bring the children to his place,” said Ms Machaya.
In an interview on Tuesday, Manicaland Provincial Education Director, Mr Edward Shumba confirmed the skirmishes at the school.
He, however, said finding a lasting solution to the issue is beyond their jurisdiction as the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education.
“I understand that there is an alleged satanism case at Hotsprings Secondary School, but unfortunately the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education does not deal with such matters. We are educationists and we have no regulation to deal with such cases.
“These community issues should be dealt with at community level,” said Mr Shumba.
He said he was yet to receive a report on whether lessons at the school were disrupted by the irate parents.
Acting Chief Mutambara said he is still waiting to be appraised by the SDC as he had instructed them to bring the affected learners to his place so that he can deal with the matter.
“I can second a traditional or spiritual healer to help them there but we had agreed that the children should be brought to my homestead for assistance. However, that was not done on Monday. I will wait to hear from the parents on the way forward,” he said.
On Tuesday, the parents besieged the school again, insisting that teachers should be transferred.

ZEC Blows US$2 Million In Rigged Elections

By-The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) said they used US$188 million in the disputed August elections.

The electoral management body said 71 per cent of the initial budget allocation of ZWL860 billion (US$188 million) from the treasury was used for the preparation and holding of the elections.

The budget supported various aspects, including the acquisition of electoral material and equipment, vehicles, training, and the welfare of election officials. ZEC also mentioned that a total of 132,958 electoral officers were recruited for the election, and there were no shortages of personnel, ZimLive reported citing a report by ZEC. The commission commended the treasury for releasing the election funding in a timely manner. Said the electoral body:

Treasury allocated the commission ZWL860 billion activities leading to the conduct of the 2023 plebiscite and the actual election.

The commission procured sensitive and non-sensitive election materials and equipment through government funds.

Unaudited expenditure as at 18 September 2023 is ZWL612 billion (71 percent).

Treasury availed the budget in time save for delays experienced in some circumstances which was urgently attended to.

The ministry of finance is commended for timely releases of the budget.

The remaining funds are planned to be used for the upcoming by-elections scheduled for December 9. The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) received additional support from the European Union-funded Zim-ECO project, which mainly focused on publicity programs and media monitoring. However, the EU has expressed its intention to suspend its financial support of $5 million to ZEC. This decision was made due to concerns raised by international Electoral Observation Missions regarding the independence and transparency of the commission during the previous elections.

Zanu PF Torror Team Member Dies At A Rally

By- A member of the ruling Zanu PF party in Matabeleland South Province assigned to the Beitbridge West constituency’s ongoing campaign for the 09 December by-elections died on Saturday while on a campaign trail.

The deceased, identified as Sister Moyo Bhebhe, was reportedly taken to Beitbridge Hospital after complaining that she was not feeling well but died soon after admission.

Her death was also announced in a ZANU PF WhatsApp group. The message that was posted in the WhatsApp group on Saturday seen by NewsDay, read:

Comrades, this is both painful and energy-sapping. We were with this sister in the Ward 14 programme in Beitbridge West.

Yesterday, (Friday) we left her at the command centre. Today (Saturday) we went with her but she appeared unwell.

We tried convincing her to remain behind but she insisted on going to the programme.

When we knocked off, she showed signs of stress and we took her to hospital where all failed with her blood sugar level reported high, above 40. It is too hot here (in Beitbridge).

To us it’s painful but her courage to die on duty is worth all respect. For us who were with her, it has badly impacted us. But this is a heroine who has gone.

The deceased was campaigning for the ZANU PF candidate for Beitbridge West Thusani Ndou who lost to CCC’s Morgan Ncube in the 23-24 August 2023 Harmonised Elections.

CCC leader Nelson Chamisa’s preferred candidate, Morgan Ncube, who was recalled in October by party activist Sengezo Tshabangu who declared himself CCC interim secretary general, will contest again. Tshabangu’s candidate is Blessing Choeni.

Other candidates for Beitbridge West by-elections are Blessing Brendan Dube an independent and Thoriso Moyo, the only female candidate, from ZAPU.

Senior Police Bosses Sucked In Kombi Wars

By A Correspondent| Senior police officials at Harare Central Police have been sucked in kombi wars following revelations that commuter omnibuses from Greater Harare Association for Commuter Omnibus (GHACO) are picking passengers at undesignated points while others are arrested.

On Monday, our news crew witnessed several GHACO affiliated kombis picking passengers at corner Samora Machel and Chinhoyi Avenue while a police truck from Provincial Reaction Team was parked just adjacent.

Other kombis were being chased away in other undesignated points such as Bata Mbuya Nehanda Avenue and at Julius Nyerere Avenue where Chitungwiza passengers board.

“GHACO officials are now the law because they bribe the police. A senior police officer (name withheld) is deploying the provincial reaction team to protect his interests. GHACO is paying a protection fee of $3000 per week to the police,” said a disgruntled transport operator.

Several kombis from other transport association have been impounded and are being kept at Milton Police Station.

“Those police officers who have arrested GHACO commuter omnibuses have been transferred to work to parliament. They want to dominate all routs in Harare and they are intimidating other operators,” said the source.

“Most of the owners of impounded vehicles are being denied their cars after finishing the processes and paying the fines. They are being forced to go and testify that they were giving other associations money,” he added.

It has come to light that over 1500 commuter omnibuses pay a monthly fee of $60 to the Greater Harare Association for Commuter Omnibus.

Passengers and pedestrians said their lives is being endangered by the ‘cat and mouse’ of police and drivers.

Recently, a Glen Norah man was killed when he was run by a kombi which was running away from the police.

With overwhelming evidence, GHACO chairperson Richard Katsvairo denied any wrongdoing.

He emphasized that their vehicles operate from legal ranks with all necessary operating papers issued by the government.

“On the contrary to what you witnessed, our vehicles operate from legal ranks and have all the relevant operating papers issued by the government through the Ministries of Transport and Ministry of Local Authorities in Harare Metropolitan Province under the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution,” Katsvairo stated.

He encouraged individuals to report any GHACO-branded vehicle operating at unauthorized locations, pledging to handle such instances professionally.

Katsvairo said that GHACO is a business and not a political association, disallowing political activism under their brand.

He urged law enforcers to enforce compliance requirements for passenger safety and implored passengers to report any violations through provided contact numbers.

Tshabangu Claims Allegiance To Biti

Zimbwa intimidates Judge to evict rival

By A Correspondent| A top police commissioner has come under spotlight for allegedly using threats and cash at the High Court where he was fighting to evict an upcoming businessman Madhadha Liquor Store from the city centre.

Innocent Zimbwa, a medical practitioner within the Zimbabwe Republic Police allegedly got an order on Monday to evict Madhadha Liquor Store from operating in the city centre on allegations that it’s operations were hindering his medical facility.
With all the paper work in order, Madhadha risks being evicted from Central Avenue after Zimbwa allegedly unleashed his heavy muscle of law enforcement and cash to force Justice Never Katiyo to grant the order impromptu.

According to sources within the Judicially Service Commission, Zimbwa used his police influence to kick out Madhadha from Central Avenue and greased senior officials within the judiciary to get a favourable Court order.
“The matter was hurriedly heard and a judgement was passed immediately. It smacks of corruption. Zimbwa paid the judge and used his police position to get the order. It was not an impartial hearing because,” said a source within JSC.

Zimbwa who runs CBD medical facility has been using his influence to stop a probe by the Zimbabwe Gender Commission into allegations that he runs an illegal aborting centre.
“Before the court process, Zimbwa tried to bully and stop Madhadha from operating using the police but he failed as officers refused to undertake an illegal operation,” said a source

“He then went to the Liquor Board but still failed. He then used money to amass signatures within the area so that he could push out Madhadha Liquor Store, ” the source said.
Madhadha is an indigenous entrepreneurship whose growth is an envy to Zimbwa.
Zimbwa was reported to the Health Professions Authority of Zimbabwe and the Medical and Dental Practitioners council of Zimbabwe for allegedly running an illegal abortion centre.
But the investigations are being stiffled through corrupt means.
More recently, the Zimbabwe Gender Commission and the police.
“The police will do little because Zimbwa is a police officer and a very senior officers holding a commisssioned rank. But the Gender Commission will look into the matter,” said a source familiar with the matter.
As a gynaecologist Zimbwa is allegedly running an illegal abortion centre at his medical facility in Harare and conducting illegal surrogacy on women.

Specializing as an obstetrician and gynecologist, Innocent Zimbwa, Innocent, is under fire for allegedly luring sex workers and desperate women who want to terminate their pregnancies illegally to his surgery and in some cases illegally assists women in reproductive technology such a surrogacy and illegal collection of eggs which seriously damages women’s health and rights.

Sources at health council said many fear Zimbwa would use his position in police to fight his cases.

His licence—if proved true could be revoked by the health council, a source said.

” Zimbwa will never admit that he does abortion work because he knows it will land him in trouble,” said a source at the health council.

“They has been a private investigation on this for some time now. He is a senior police officer and knows that if he is found guilty of this, his job as a cop will end. But the truth is he is doing this at his Central Avenue surgery,” said the source.

Several attempts to get a comment from Zimbwa proved fruitless as he did pick up his calls.

Under Zimbabwe’s 1977 Termination of Pregnancy Act, abortion is only legally permitted under certain circumstances. If conducted illegally, it carries a penalty of up to five years in jail and or a fine.

Yet many women, and even minors like 16-year olds allegedly flock Zimbwa’s surgery seeking to terminate pregnancies illegally.

Some of the people, sources said are commercial sex workers and want the procedure done smoothly.

Backyard abortion facilities are often run by unlicensed midwifes and deregistered medical practitioners and carry the risk of severe complications.

This puts Zimbwa, a registered medical practioner on spotloght as to why he would be running the procedures illegally.

Four out of 10 women who undergo abortions in Zimbabwe experience such complications, including hemorrhages or infection, with some even dying in the process, according to a survey of health professionals.

“Illegal abortions in Zimbabwe have increased from 60,000 to 80,000 per annum — which is very unsustainable.

Poverty has also seen many underage girls resorting to abortion.

“How do I keep doing my job as a sex worker if I allow myself to have a baby? How do I look after the baby if I have no reliable source of income?” said a sex worker in a questionnaire done by the health council when they were conducting the probe.

At his clinic, Zimbwa also works with other doctors who include Makoni, Nothanda Mutizirwa and N.Moyo although the other health practitioners are not being probed by the health council.

Under the country’s punitive abortion laws, for women and girls who want to terminate their pregnancies, they must find their own means — legal or otherwise.

Apart from deregistered doctors, public hospital staff are also in on the illegal abortions trade, helping them smuggle out abortion drugs.

“Per abortion, they make roughly $150 to $200 and in a good month most doctors attend to about 15 to 25 abortion cases. It’s a lot of money if you make your calculations,” said an official at health council.

The maternal mortality rate in Zimbabwe currently stands at 614 deaths per 100,000 live births, one of the highest worldwide, according to the UN Population Fund (UNFPA).

22-Year-Old Chitungwiza Youth Arrested For Plotting to Overthrow Mnangagwa

Police have arrested Blessing Mhembere, a 22-year-old man, on charges of subverting a constitutional government.

Mhembere is accused of inciting others to overthrow President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government through unconstitutional means.

According to the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR), Mhembere was allegedly moving around a bus terminus in Chitungwiza, a satellite city of Harare, shouting slogans and mobilizing people to “remove President Mnangagwa and the ZANU-PF political party from power.”

He is also accused of asking those with guns to bring them along, claiming he could use them.

For these alleged actions, Mhembere has been charged with two counts: Subverting a constitutional government under section 22(2)(A) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, and incitement to subvert a constitutional government under section 187 of the same Act.

CCC Candidate Takes ZEC to Court, Alleging Violation of Electoral Act

In a concerning development for electoral transparency, the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has declined to release the voters roll for the upcoming December 9 by-elections, as reported by a local daily.

Opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) candidate for the Mabvuku-Tafara Constituency, Febion Kufahakutizwi, has taken legal action against ZEC, seeking a court order compelling the electoral body to release the voters roll ahead of the by-elections.

Under the Electoral Act, ZEC is obligated to provide candidates with copies of the roll soon after the confirmation of their candidature. Kufahakutizwi, represented by Obey Shava of the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights, has expressed frustration in his founding affidavit, stating that despite multiple requests to ZEC, the voters roll has not been made available.

Kufahakutizwi emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating, “The by-election is set to be held on December 9, 2023, which is less than two weeks away from the date of this application. If the respondents are not compelled by this court to avail the voters roll to me as a candidate, the election will come and go without me being afforded the right to the voters roll as protected by the Electoral Act.”

He further demands that ZEC releases the document within 48 hours of the court order.

This is not the first instance of such a dispute. Last year, during the March by-elections, opposition candidates were unable to access the voters roll, while their Zanu PF counterparts had access to the document.

In the lead-up to the August 23 elections, CCC candidates also took ZEC to court, demanding the release of the voters roll. The lack of timely access to the voters roll has been a consistent point of contention, with opposition parties, electoral watchdogs, and various stakeholders expressing concern over the repeated failure of ZEC to provide the necessary information.

As the legal battle unfolds, questions about the transparency and fairness of the electoral process linger, raising broader concerns about the adherence to electoral laws and the protection of candidates’ rights.

Health ministry “dumps” online application system

By A Correspondent- The Ministry of Health and Child Care has scrapped the centralised nurses’ online application system in an effort to decentralise the recruitment of nurses and cater for applicants from across the country.

The online application system has been heavily criticised by the public for being exclusionary as qualified locals were failing to secure places at training schools in their areas.

The nurses’ recruitment drive has been under scrutiny after a pattern emerged that the bulk of trainee nurses recruited at local hospitals were from other areas.

In a statement, the ministry said the January 2024 general nurse training intake will be province-based.

“Provinces will recruit in January, May or September depending on availability of training posts,” read part of the statement.

A total of 292 training posts are available for the January 2024 intake at 12 training institutions in seven provinces which are Bulawayo, Harare, Manicaland, Mashonaland Central, Mashonaland East, Masvingo, and Midlands.

Applicants for the three-year diploma in general nurse training should meet the minimum qualification; five Ordinary level subjects, which include English, Science and Mathematics.

“Candidates must be aged between 18 and 30 years on the date of commencement of training, which is  8 January, 2024,” reads the statement.

Zimbabwe Nurses Association (Zina) president Mr Enock Dongo said the move is a step in the right direction.

“Long back recruitment was done physically but due to corruption and complaints from the public, the Government introduced the centralised e-recruitment system,” he said.

“However, over the years, there has been an outcry from disadvantaged citizens, who either have no internet or gadgets to access the system. This is why you see the ministry has decided to revert back to the old system which was decentralised,” said Mr Dongo.

He said through the decentralised recruitment system people from various provinces were likely to secure training posts and possibly secure jobs.

“You could find someone from Harare working in Kezi yet there are people from that area that have the qualifications to train as nurses,” said Mr Dongo.

CCC ups diplomatic offensive

By A Correspondent- The besieged Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) party has escalated its diplomatic offensive by engaging regional, continental and international parliaments to intervene over the illegal recall of its legislators.

The move is apparently linked to the party’s wider campaign to force fresh elections after it disputed the August 23-24 polls which it described as a “gigantic fraud”.

Following the recall early this month of 15 Members of Parliament and 17 councillors by one Sengezo Tshabangu — who claims to be the party’s interim secretary-general — the Nelson Chamisa-led CCC notified the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), Sadc Parliamentary Forum, Pan African Parliament and the Africa Caribbean & Pacific-European Joint Parliamentary Assembly of “continued abuse” of Parliament and Zimbabwe’s Constitution.

IPU has since responded to CCC’s complaint over the “unconstitutional” parliamentary recalls, amid latest claims that Speaker of the National Assembly Jacob Mudenda reportedly said he did not see Chamisa’s September 11 letter in time advising him that the recalls were illegal.

IPU, a global organisation of 180 national parliaments, discussed CCC’s complaints at its 147th Assembly that took place in Luanda, Angola, from October 23 to 27 and proposed to send a mission to Zimbabwe before January 2024.

At a hearing held by the IPU Committee on the Human Rights of Parliamentarians, Mudenda stated that section 129(1)(k) of the Constitution stipulates that the seat of an MP becomes vacant ‘if s/he ceases to belong to the political party and if the party, by written notice to the Speaker, declares that the member has ceased to belong to it.

“According to the complainant, Tshabangu is an imposter with no position in the CCC and who has no authority to request the recall of any CCC members. Moreover, none of the individuals concerned in Parliament stated that they had left the CCC,” the committee said in a document seen by NewsDay.

“In the hearing with the IPU Committee, the Speaker of the National Assembly stated that Tshabangu’s letter of October 3, 2023, had been received before the letter from Chimasa dated September 11. Had this been the other way round, the Speaker’s decision may have been quite different.

“He (Mudenda) also stated that the CCC did not have clear and publicly known internal structures or the names of those holding the most important positions in the party. Should a request to recall members of the National Assembly belonging to Zanu-PF be put before him, he said it was public knowledge who is entitled within the party to make that request.”

In its complaint to IPU, the CCC accused Mudenda of acting unconstitutionally by ignoring the written and oral submissions of known party members, refusing to hold any discussions on this issue, and accepting the letter from Tshabangu without ensuring that it was a legitimate communication from the political party concerned.

“According to the complainant, these allegations have to be seen as part of a pattern of repression, the erosion of the independence of the Judiciary and the shrinking civic space that accompanied the disputed 2023 elections, as well as pre-existing violations of the rights of parliamentarians belonging to the opposition,” the IPU Committee said.

The IPU Governing Council was advised that the CCC case requires setting up a mission to Zimbabwe as soon as practicable ahead of the IPU Committee’s 173rd session scheduled to take place in January 2024.

Although it appreciated Mudenda’s argument, it was puzzled by the swiftness with which the decision to revoke the mandate of the newly-elected parliamentarians was taken and the fact that no debate on the issue was allowed

“It wishes to receive additional clarification from the parliamentary authorities of the National Assembly and the Senate. The committee requests that the secretary-general conveys this decision to the parliamentary authorities and other relevant national authorities, the complainant, and any interested third party likely to be in a position to supply relevant information to assist the committee in its work,” the committee added.

Tshabangu said CCC’s efforts were futile and were being spearheaded by “criminals” around Chamisa.

“It’s a futile exercise by criminals around the president (Chamisa). They are singing for their last supper. We shall be deploying seasoned credible leaders with political capital on a diplomatic offensive before the Sadc Summit to set the record straight,” he said.

However, CCC spokesperson Promise Mkwananzi said the move was part of several remedies that the party would use to push the Zanu-PF regime for another election.

“The idea is to bring pressure to bear from every angle possible. Eventually, the regime will remain with no choice but to capitulate and do the right thing, which is to acknowledge its illegitimacy and enter negotiations to bring back legitimacy through the conduct of an actual election,” he said.

Chitungwiza man in soup for fraud

By A Correspondent- A man from Chitungwiza appeared in court over the weekend facing allegations of trying to defraud apostolic sect leader Lloyd Gwasira popularly known as Madzibaba Moses Gwanzura, a house that he is selling.

Nigel Mutambiikwa appeared before a Chitungwiza magistrate charged with fraud.

The State opposed his admission to bail on the grounds that he had supplied an invalid address.

Mutambiikwa said he lived in Murisa Park of which there is no area by that name in Chitungwiza.

Therefore, he was remanded in custody to November 30 pending verification of his residential address.

The  State alleged that at an unknown date to the prosecutor, Mutambiikwa and three others who are yet to be summoned before the court hatched a plan to defraud Madzibaba  Gwanzura after learning that he was selling his house in Manyame Park, Chitungwiza.

The accused persons manufactured a fake agreement of sale in which Mutambiikwa purported to have bought Madzibaba Gwanzura’s house.

His three accomplices were arrested at Madzibaba Gwanzura’s house when they were intimidating his agent with a pistol and handcuffs claiming that the house was theirs and producing documents pertaining to the house.

Mutambiikwa allegedly never filed a police report or provided evidence that he once bought the house in question for US$17 000 but could not possess it.

Madzibaba Gwanzura then filed a police report leading to Mutambiikwa’s arrest.

Duo in soup over fake High Court Order

By A Correspondent- Two people appeared in court last Friday for allegedly tendering a fake High Court Order to the police to assist them in getting custody of two minor children.

Gift Phiri (54) and Lois Rodo Madyavanhu (65) appeared before Harare Magistrate Mrs Appollonia Marutya charged with fraud.

The pair was remanded in custody pending a bail ruling today.

The complainant is Diana Eunice Kawenda who is a lawyer.

Prosecutor Mr Takudzwa Jambawu alleged that on November 3, Phiri and Madyavanhu proceeded to ZRP Milton Park in the company of her Legal practitioner Paidamoyo Madondo armed with a High Court order number 0433706 under case number HC4001/23 seeking assistance from the police in executing the court order which was granting Madyavanhu custody of two minor children who were staying in Belvedere, Harare.

The court heard that Sergeant Misho of ZRP Milton Park accompanied them to Belvedere for the execution of the court order.

Upon arrival at the house, they met Lucy Kawenda who was staying with the two minor children and they showed her the court order.

Sergeant Misho interrogated her and contrary to what has been said by the accused persons, the two minor children were given to Lucy and George Kawenda by the Social Welfare.

Lucy then called her legal representative Diana Eunice Kawenda who came to the scene and upon sight of the court order, she then queried its authenticity prompting her to seek some clarification from the High Court Registrar.

Due to the facts established that there was a dispute, the police officer returned to the station without executing it.

Then on November 6, Diana Eunice Kawenda approached the High Court Registrar’s office and was told that the court order was indeed a fake court order.

Under court order 0433706 was a different case and on number HC 4001/23 was another case.

She then filed a report leading to the arrest of Phiri and Madyavanhu.

Cops nab smuggling syndicate

By A Correspondent- Police in Matebeleland South have smashed a well-orchestrated smuggling syndicate at Plumtree Border Post and recovered five smuggled Honda Fit vehicles, including some an assortment of goods illegally brought into the country from Botswana.

In 2021, Government outlawed the importation of vehicles older than 10 years in a move that is meant to revitalise the local motor industry, reduce the import bill and cut greenhouse emissions.

Under Statutory Instrument 89 of 2021, second-hand vehicles manufactured 10 years ago, except commercial vehicles and those for agricultural purposes, are no longer permitted into the country.

Government said the importation of second-hand cars is contributing to road carnage and also worsening pollution thereby hampering efforts to mitigate the effects of climate change.

The Honda Fit vehicles that were being smuggled into the country were manufactured more than 10 years ago.

The demand for the cars, which are mostly used as pirate taxis, created a market for smugglers to bring the cars into the country illegally.

A Chronicle news crew last week visited Plumtree Border Post and saw some of the smuggled cars parked at the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (Zimra) customs yard following their seizure.

Smugglers have resorted to cutting the security perimeter fence near the border to create illegal entry points.

In an interview, the acting officer commanding police in Bulilima and Mangwe districts Superintendent Rosemary Mangena said they impounded a number of Honda Fit vehicles during a crackdown on smugglers.

“There are vehicles which are brought into the country illegally as the vehicles were manufactured more than ten years ago.

“In Mbwenda we have recovered four Honda fits and recently a Toyota Runx,” she said.

Supt Mangena said alcohol and groceries were usually smuggled through Mpoengs Border Post especially now when businesses are targeting to cash in on the festive season.

She attributed rampant smuggling to porous borders and a lack of adequate resources to conduct patrols.

“The challenge that we have is the size of the border line which stretches from Mayobodo up to Maitengwe Border Post, which makes it difficult to patrol due to lack of resources.

“There are no roads on our side of the border unlike in Botswana where they have the veterinary fence,” she said.

Supt Mangena said they rely on the good relationship they have  with locals who provide vital information.

“The Honda Fits are bought in Botswana and smuggled into the country as most of them are more than 10 years old so they cannot be imported according to regulations,” she said.

Supt Mangena said they conduct routine joint operations with their Botswana counterparts while traditional leaders have formed crime liaison committees to help curb criminal activities along the border.

Zimbabwe is a landlocked country surrounded by South Africa, Mozambique, Zambia, Namibia and Botswana.

The country’s porous border posts will soon be under tight surveillance following Government’s decision to acquire drones worth US$2 million to patrol the borders as part of measures to curb smuggling.

Serial murderer declared mentally unstable

By A Correspondent- A mentally challenged Kadoma man, who committed a series of murders before turning the sword against his father and setting the family home ablaze in June 2021, has been sent to Chikurubi Psychiatric Unit after the High Court adjudged himself mentally unstable.

Evan Chikoore was convicted after a full trial with his mother telling the court that he was mentally ill.

Justice Philda Muzofa, said it is the duty of the courts to protect people with mental challenges as they are always stigmatised.

“When they commit offences their woes multiply. Their lives become a sad tale that slowly pale into the dark soon to be forgotten,” said the judge as she delivered judgment.

The court heard that Chikoore was a well-known mental patient in the Kadoma community where he stayed with his family.

On July 9, 2021, he three people in separate incidents.

After committing the offence, he was arrested and the magistrate ordered that he be examined by two doctors in terms of section 26 of the Mental Health Act, and was found to be mentally challenged.

The court heard that Chikoore had not been well since 2004 as he would experience visual and auditory hallucinations.

His father took him for treatment at some church where a prophet assisted him. At this stage, he had stopped taking his prescribed medication.

The court heard his illness progressed and he became acutely psychotic.

According to the State, Chikoore resided in Luwana, Kadoma, with his wife.

On July 21, 2021, he visited his deceased father’s home in the same village where he demanded money to buy beer but his father indicated did not have cash on him.

In a fit of rage, he picked a stone and struck his father several times on the head before he set four thatched huts on fire.

Upon realising that his father was not yet dead, he took an axe and struck him several times.

He proceeded to the next homestead, where the now-deceased Tears Matara stayed.

On arrival, he asked where Matara’s husband was as he wanted his money from him.

He demanded money from Matara and was given $30.

He took that offer for an insult and struck her with the axe several times on the head and set ablaze a hut and a car parked at the homestead.

Chikore proceeded to the next homestead but the family fled, leaving behind a boy child.

Chikore axed the boy and killed him on the spot. Villagers then rushed to the scene and apprehended him as he approached the next homestead.

Over 150 opposition supporters need urgent relocation

By A Correspondent- A total of 153 opposition party supporters need urgent relocation and safe housing following post-election persecution, the Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum has reported.

In a statement to the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights at the 77th Ordinary Session recently, the forum condemned the post-August 23-24 election violence saying: “These include abductions/enforced disappearances that lead to torture; malicious damage to property through arson, forced displacement of victims of arson; and the threats/intimidation/harassment in opposition political party strongholds, particularly of opposition political party election agents which have left victims in dire need of relocation out of justifiably fearing for their lives.”

The forum said by September 30, 2023, a total of 153 opposition party supporters, election agents and their families were in urgent need of relocation or safe housing.

The forum urged the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights to exert pressure on the Zimbabwean government to immediately end the unprecedented levels of post-election victimisation in the country.

Calling for the setting up of an independent commission of enquiry into the post-election human rights violations, the forum added: “The government should also ratify and domesticate the United Nations Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment and its Optional Protocol.”

Chiwenga Could End Up In Deep Trouble With Ex-Wife

Marry Mubaiwa has threatened to sue her ex-husband, Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, for adultery.

Chiwenga and Mubaiwa reportedly separated several years ago. Chiwenga has since married Colonel Miniyothabo Baloyi.

In June 2022, President Emmerson Mnangagwa announced that his deputy had tied the knot with Col. Baloyi, a serving officer in the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA).

However, Mubaiwa insists that if Chiwenga, whom she still refers to as her husband, wants a divorce, he should do it properly and give her a divorce token (gupuro).

She posted on X:

“My husband must be man enough to make it official that we are no longer together, leaving apart does not make things official. l don’t know which “GUPURO” (divorce token) that he talks about because we never saw it but only heard about it through social media. Abuse of authority…

“I should sue him for adultery for what he is doing with that girl that has been courting him for many years.

“He used to tell me how much he hated her and she would bring him gifts including clothes and we would burn them, this was around 2011 and he referred to her as Zwangendaba.

“If he no longer wants me as a wife why not go through the proper procedure of division of property, custody of our kids and whatever else.

“He used me to have children nekuti musikana uyo haazvere ingomwa (because that girl is infertile). He wants me dead and buried and he won’t rest until it’s done.

“I was naive to actually believe that he loved me and he was in love with me and yet he was using me.

“My heart is broken, l just want my children and my properties from him and nothing else. l hope the President knows that he is dealing with “the devil in uniform”.

Mubaiwa is facing attempted murder charges for allegedly attempting to kill Chiwenga when he was on a life support system in South Africa in 2019.

During her recent court appearance, former Health and Child Care Deputy Minister John Mangwiro told the court that whenever Mubaiwa walked into the room in which Chiwenga was admitted, he would become unconscious even though he was awake before her arrival.

Mangwiro said this while being cross-examined by Mubaiwa’s lawyer Beatrice Mtetwa.

“Veterinary doctor treated VP Chiwenga”: court told

Vice President Constantino Chiwenga received treatment from a veterinary doctor at the instigation of his ex-wife Marry Mubaiwa while being admitted in South Africa, the court heard.

This was revealed by former Health and Child Care Deputy Minister Dr John Mangwiro who said Mubaiwa introduced one Dr Bruce Peck as the best in South Africa and would give the complainant treatment from time to time.

Dr Mangwiro told the court that Dr Willi Leo Seiling suspected something mysterious about Dr Peck when he saw him kissing with Mubaiwa.

He further submitted that he later learned that Dr Peck was a veterinary doctor after Mubaiwa introduced him as a family medical practitioner.

He said Mubaiwa often requested confidential time with Vice President Chiwenga.

The State seeks to summon Vice President Chiwenga to testify on December 7 for trial continuation.

During the last sitting, Dr Mangwiro told the court that each time Mubaiwa went inside the room in which the Vice President was admitted, he would be fit but when she left, he would be unconscious and obtunded.

Dr Mangwiro said the complainant’s health condition would start deteriorating each time he was brought back to his house.

“Each time we took the complainant out of the country for medication, he would come back home well but he would start deteriorating when he got home. I don’t know what was happening,” he said.

He said Mubaiwa was powerful that she would kick everyone out of the hospital room.

At one point the accused refused to take the complainant to hospital but instead opted to take him to a hotel saying she wanted to rest.

Mubaiwa is facing charges of attempting to kill VP Chiwenga by unplugging his life support system in a South African hospital. The Herald

D-day for Moreblessing Ali killer

By A Correspondent- Judgement in the case in which Pius Jamba Mukandi is accused of killing Citizens Coalition of Change (CCC) activist, Moreblessing Ali in cold blood in June last year has been set for December 4.

High Court judge Esther Muremba said she is still noting the judgment after the State closed its case last week.

Jamba is accused of murdering Ali before he decapitated her body and threw it in a well at his mother’s homestead in Beatrice in June 2022.

The body was later discovered in a decomposing state and is yet to be buried over a year later.

The suspect however denied the allegations during his trial in which seven witnesses testified against him.

His mother Lina Mukandi and his sister Mercy also testified against him.

While he insisted that on the day Ali was killed he had already planned a journey to his mother’s rural home, having already notified her, his mother denied telling the court that she was not aware of her son’s whereabouts.

Jamba also denied killing Ali saying he was sacrificed to ease political tension that pervaded Nyatsime area after the activist was killed.

He also said he was coerced to admit the crime and do indications.

Ali was last seen on May 24 2022 at a Night Club in Nyatsime where she allegedly had an altercation with Jamba.

It is alleged Ali and her friend Mayironi then left Chibhanguza Night Club and were about to head home.

Mayironi was behind Ali and she noticed her friend lying on the ground while Jamba dragged her.

She attempted to save her friend, leading to Mukandi striking her with a stone propelled by a catapult and hitting her chin leaving an open wound.

Kirina Mayironi fled back into the Nightclub where other revelers rushed out to investigate what was happening.

The suspect then positioned himself on the other side of Chibhanguza Night Club building which is still under construction.

“He pelted stones from the catapult and threw bricks directed at the night club so that nobody would manage to apprehend him or rescue the now-deceased,” prosecutors alleged.

“The accused took the now deceased from the vicinity of Chibhanguza Night Club to an unknown secluded place

“The accused person struck the deceased using an unknown instrument with the intention to cause her death, he strangled the now deceased using her trousers thereby causing her death.

“The accused then used an unknown instrument to cut the body of the now deceased into three pieces consisting of the upper torso and two legs,” said the State.

The court heard Mukandi then took the dismembered body parts to Plot 321 Dunnotar Farm, Beatrice belonging to his mother Laina Mukandi where he dumped them into a disused well.

Thereafter Jamba went on the run.

Ali’s body was discovered on 11 June 2022 by Mukandi’s mother after a strong stench emanated from the disused well.

Michael Mugabe and Terrence Mukuze are prosecuting.

Malaba In Another Controversial Move That Has Been Widely Condemned By Legal Experts

Chief Justice Luke Malaba is under fire after a High Court judge who recently resigned to evade a serious corruption investigation – Webster Chinamora – has been unlawfullly allowed back to write several outstanding judgements without being first cleared of charges of corruption.

Legal experts told a local online this is a legally dubious arrangement which may well be illegal and may open the floodgates for more corruption as Chinamora can longer be reined in through a constitutional mechanism of a tribunal again since he has already escaped one.

Chinamora resigned on 17 November after President Emmerson Mnangagwa had appointed a tribunal to investigate his suitability to continue to hold office
following a litany of corruption allegations against him.

As exclusively reported by a local online, there was a high-level bid by the executive to protect Chinamora from a tribunal investigation after the Judicial Services Commission (JSC) recommended way back in March that he should be probed together with a High Court colleague Justice Martin Makonese.

Mnangagwa was quick to appoint a tribunal to probe Makonese in April, but took almost 10 months to do the same for Chinamora.

This only happened due to sustained pressure from the media and legal fraternity. Prominent lawyer Beatrice Mtetwa write to Mnangagwa over the issue, accusing him of unconstitutional conduct.

Supreme Court Justice Francis Bere and High Court judges Erica Ndewere, Thompson Mabhikwa and Edith Mushore were fired from the bench over gross misconduct.

Lawyers say after Chinamora abruptly resigned to escape investigation by the Justice Ahmed Ebrahim Tribunal, he should no longer be allowed back because he was not cleared of charges against him and will now come back with carte blache in his practice.

Even though judges who resign are allowed by practice to finish their outstanding judgements, Chinamora’s case is different as he was automatically suspended by operation of law after Mnangagwa appointed a tribunal to investigate him.

So he must not be given yet another chance on the bench after he resigned following the appointment of a tribunal – which meant subsequent loss of legal authority to preside over court cases – as that would be tantamount to giving him a new opportunity to perpetuate corruption, especially without the check and balance of a constitutional disciplinary recourse.

Chitungwiza man nabbed for advocating for ED removal

Police have arrested a Chitungwiza man for allegedly mobilizing people to remove President Emmerson Mnangagwa from power.

In a statement on Monday, the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) said Blessed Mhembere, 22, is being charged with subverting a constitutional government.

He is expected to be arraigned before the courts soon.

Mhembere is accused of moving around the bus terminus at Makoni Shopping Centre in Chitungwiza, shouting on top of his voice and calling Mnangagwa and Zanu PF from power.

“For allegedly doing so, Mhembere was apprehended and charged with subverting constitutional government as defined in section 22(2)(A) of Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act and with incitement to subvert a constitutional government as defined in section 187 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform Act),” the lawyers said.

Mhembere, who reportedly challenged people with guns to join him, is facing charges that are akin to treason and attracts a sentence up to 20 years in prison if one is convicted.

Mhembere is represented by Freddy Masarirevhu. NewsDay

Defence Forces Commander to retire?

Zimbabwe Defence Forces commander General Philip Valerio Sibanda will retire at the end of the year and pave way for a new security services chief in charge of the country’s military, an official source says.

“Sibanda will retire at the end of the year soon after turning 69,” a source said.

“After the recent political developments, he is going. The only question now is who will replace him?

“The Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) is hierarchically structured, with a three-star headquarters commanded by a lieutenant-general, who is the commander. The ZNA commander is deputised by three major-generals appointed chiefs-of staff. Together with the commander, they constitute the ZNA command element. The structure has five branches namely: general staff, training, administration, quartermaster and inspectorate. General, administration and quartermaster staff branches sponsor corps and directorates grouped according to their specialised roles.”

The source continued: “There are several suitable candidates to take over from him who are serving and retired lieutenant-generals. The obvious names that come to mind, for instance, are those of ZNA commander Lieutenant Anselem Sanyatwe or retired Lieutenant-General Engelbert Rugeje.

Although these are Vice-President retired General Constantino Chiwenga’s close allies, they are well-positioned to take from Sibanda.

“The changes will therefore shake up the structure and end up touching several important positions in the army, including the Air Force. If Sanyatwe moves up to become ZDF commander, then ZNA Major-General Hlanganani Dube, Chief-of-Staff (Quartermaster Staff), may take over from Sanyatwe. Apart from Dube, there are others such as Major-General Kasirai Tazira and Major-General Emmanuel Matatu who are qualified for that job.

“However, Rugeje is being tipped to return even if Mnangagwa may not prefer that option. In doing all this, there is always the issue of balance between former Zanla and Zipra commanders at the top. At the moment former Zipra commanders are occupying top positions of ZDF commander (Sibanda) and Air Force of Zimbabwe Air Marshal Elson Moyo. Changes will take all that into account.”

The source said police might also see some changes, particularly with the likelihood of Commissioner-General Godwin Matanga being sent to Tanzania as ambassador, while being replaced by deputy commissioner-general Stephen Mutamba.

This follows Sibanda’s unconstitutional appointment into the ruling Zanu PF decision-making administrative organ, the politburo, as an ex officio member amid a series of constitutional violations which characterise Mnangagwa’s presidency.

Mnangagwa had appointed Sibanda into the politburo last month at the end of the Zanu PF annual conference in Gweru, but was pressured to reverse it after initial resistance.

“To fill the vacancy, I am appointing Cde Rose Mpofu of Matabeleland South province as a Politburo member and the new Secretary for People with Disabilities.

Additionally, ‘Cde Gwenzi’, General Philip Valerio Sibanda, as an ex-officio member of the Politburo,” Mnangagwa said.

The move was widely and swiftly criticised as unconstitutional and unlawful. Section 208 of the constitution provides for conduct of members of security services, specifically prohibiting acting in a partisan manner and furthering interests of any political party or cause.

Section 208 of the constitution on the conduct of members of security services, says: (1) Members of the security services must act in accordance with this constitution and the law; (2) Neither the security services nor any of their members may, in the exercise of their func a) act in a partisan manner; (b) further the interests of any political party or cause; (c) prejudice the lawful interests of any political party or cause; or (d) violate the fundamental rights or freedoms of any person. (3) Members of the security services must not be active members or office-bearers of any political party or organisation; and (4) Serving members of the security services must not be employed or engaged in civilian institutions except in periods of public emergency.

However, Mnangagwa insisted on it as brazenly illegal as it was amid a storm of protest.

“People are mistaken, they think that General Sibanda is a civil servant. He is not a civil servant; first point. Second point, he is an ex-officio member of the politburo which means that he is not a substantive member of the politburo, he cannot vote in the politburo. He is ex-officio. So, there is no problem, there is no contradiction. He is just a civil servant and I as the President can appoint anybody as an ex-officio member which means by virtue of a certain particular position you can be allowed to sit in our substantive body of the politburo. That’s how it is. I don’t know who gets offended by him sitting in the politburo. He cannot vote, but he can contribute.”

However, public pressure did not relent. Last week, Harare human rights lawyer Kudzi Kadzere wrote to Mnangagwa through Mbidzo,Muchadehama & Makoni Legal Practitioners, demanding reversal of Sibanda’s appointment within 10 days. NewsHawks

Mwonzora mulls selling MDC properties to settle bills, salaries, operating costs

THE once formidable opposition MDC’s vast property empire is under threat as party leader Douglas Mwonzora bids to sell some of its prized assets to raise money to settle arrears, including utility bills, salaries and other operating costs, while also raising cash for himself, insiders say.

Sources said the party’s properties include its headquarters Harvest House, now known as Morgan Richard Tsvangirai House, in central Harare, residential stands, provincial offices and 25 safe houses bought and donated by well-wishers since the party’s formation in 1999.

Some of the properties such as provincial offices are registered under a company called Laphonic Investments formed during the late founding leader Morgan Tsvangirai’s leadership.

The company’s directors at inception included senior party officials, particularly Tendai Biti, Elton Mangoma and Theresa Makone.

The MDC was founded in September 1999 by Tsvangirai and his Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Union and professional colleagues such Gibson Sibanda, Isaac Matongo, Welshman Ncube, Tendai Biti, Gift Chimanikire, Fletcher Dulini Ncube, Tapiwa Mashakada, David Coltart, Thokozani Khupe, Tafadzwa Musekiwa, Job Sikhala, Learnmore Jongwe, Evelyn Masaiti, Esaph Mdlongwa, Morgen Komichi and Pauline Mpariwa.

The party split starting 2005 and several times after that, but the MDC-T faction led by Tsvangirai remained the main formation until his death in February 2018.

When Tsvangirai died, Nelson Chamisa took over amid a fierce succession battle with Khupe. After the 2018 elections, Mwonzorwa seized the MDC-T and the MDC-Alliance backed by Zanu PF and the courts. He was assisted by state agents to physically seize control of the party headquarters.

After his ascendancy to the helm of the party following a controversial court ruling, apparently with Zanu PF and state assistance, Mwonzora changed the directors to include himself, Mashakada and Julius Musevenzi.

Properties listed under Laphonic entail the MDC provincial offices for Harare in Highfield and other regional offices in Kwekwe, Bindura, Marondera, Chinhoyi, Gweru and Masvingo, sources said.

There is also a stand under the company in Harare’s Kopje area and two others in Mutare, they said.

Further, Mwonzora is now exerting pressure on party structures to sell some of the properties to raise funds for the party and himself.

His moves started in earnest in August during a party standing committee meeting in Harare as he sought a resolution to first sell properties occupied by the Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) in Chinhoyi, Kwekwe and Bulawayo.

“Manoeuvres to sell party properties are underway. Mwonzora wants to sell the properties to settle bills and raise money for himself. He is saying if we sell the properties now at our greatest time of need, we will replace them when the time comes. His intention is to sell the properties at higher prices, pay bills and then buy cheaper ones so, while keeping some of the money in the process,” said a source.

MDC Bulawayo offices were at an advanced stage of being sold, but the deal fell through when the prospective buyer demanded title deeds, which Mwonzora did not have. Some of the people who donated properties to the party withheld the title deeds. The sources said Mwonzora also wants to sell off the MDC’s 25 safe houses which were used to provide refuge to party members and supporters whenever they were under threat from Zanu PF or the state.

“There is also the issue of the 25 safe houses which the party owns.

Mwonzora also wants to sell them. Currently he is keeping with him documents for the safe houses which he got from Toendepi Shonhe (former MDC director-general) who used to manage them during the Tsvangirai era.

Shonhe surrendered the papers to Mwonzora under a certain arrangement. As for the Harvest House, Mwonzora has put a price tag of US$3.5 million on it,” a source said.

Sources said Mwonzora’s motivation is to collect state funds that were due to the MDC before the recent elections and raise more money from sale of the properties.

The Political Parties (Finance) Act provides for the financing of political parties by the state; to prohibit foreign donations to parties and candidates. Mwonzora has collected millions that were disbursed to the MDC under the law.

He got US$45 000 just before the August elections.

The sources said Mwonzora also pocketed US$8 000 from an Indian firm that wanted to rent part of Harvest House.

The expectation was that the money would be used to pay outstanding salaries of workers, but sources said Mwonzora insisted that he wanted to use it to travel to the United Kingdom to attend the Labour Party’s congress held recently from 8-11 October.

“Mwonzora’s deals are dodgy and messy. There is now a stand-off with the Indians who want to rent some of the party’s space as a Chinese company was also given a lease to rent the same section of the building. Attempts to evict a tenant renting the former regalia shop selling groceries to pave way for the Indians has hit a brick wall. The Indians now want to go to court,” said the source.

Mwonzora’s spokesperson Llyod Damba said issues against his boss were unfounded. “For your own information, the President does not micro-manage every department and he is not the party treasurer.

Those are malicious rumours peddled by enemies of the party. Your question is administrative, so the best person to answer those stupid malicious stories of yours is Tapiwa Mashakada and the treasurer-general Brain Dube,” he said.

Mashakada was not reachable while Dube did not respond to questions sent to him. Chengetai Guta, the MDC director of information and publicity, said: “First, it was MDC workers have kicked out Mwonzora and taken over MRT House, then it was Zesa and police lock our headquarters for illegal connections and now this? There is no truth in all that. Those are frivolous and malicious allegations which cannot be sustained.”

Contacted for comment, Mwonzora said: “I am not interested in your rubbish. So unprofessional, so cheap. We are no longer talking to you and your publications. You are unprofessional and biased against the MDC. I have advised our officials never to have anything to do with you. If you continue defaming us we will have no option but to sue you.” NewsHawks

FULL TEXT: Mwonzora Responds To Claims He Has Joined Zanu PF

This is a direct response to an article that has gone viral on social media that the MDC President Douglas Mwonzora has joined his erstwhile nemesis Zanu-PF.

First Sen. Douglas Mwonzora is not President of the MDC Alliance because the Alliance in terms of the Agreement was not a single political party but a conglomerate of seven political parties with their respective Presidents.
The Agreement expired in August 2023 and no longer applicable, so it can not be referred to anymore.

It is mere propaganda meant to divert the people of Zimbabwe from the real issues affecting their daily lives which are:
Poverty, Hunger, Unemployment, Power Cuts, Water Shortage, Cholera, Hyper Inflation and Transport woes among other ills that have made Zimbabweans the unhappiest people on earth.

All these have been caused by the maladministration of the ruling party ZANU-PF since 1980.

Currently the country is facing a possible drought and as a country we are supposed to be focusing on mitigating this disaster and other people are focusing on petty propaganda, playing with people’s lives.

Never in a million years will Douglas Mwonzora join Zanu-PF but it is wishful thinking by enemies of pluralism who seek to conquer and control the minds of every right thinking Zimbabwean.

Currently the MDC President and the rest of the party are busy preparing for a National Policy Conference to come up with pro poor people’s policies in preparation for the 2028 General Election so that we complete the unfinished business of the liberation struggle, that is total economic immacipacipation for the people of Zimbabwe.

SA’s R37million Border Fence Pulled Down By Zimbos Fleeing Ramaphosa’s Sanctions Fake News

By Dorrothy Moyo | ActionSA leader Herman Mashaba, on a visit to the Zimbabwe border yesterday, reveals a compromised fence which cost R37million during the COVID pandemic allowing unrestricted access. Mashaba vows to address immigration issues if elected president, proposing a ban on ZANU PF officials and freezing their assets in South Africa.

Mashaba accuses Cyril Ramaphosa’s ANC party of funding alleged war crimes by Emmerson Mnangagwa’s ZANU PF, pointing to violations of High Court orders.

The ANC stands accused of using South African taxpayer money for this support, as reported on state television, ZBC. The question arises: Is Herman Mashaba justified in his criticism of the ANC’s alleged involvement in sponsoring ZANU PF activities? The situation raises concerns about the impact on immigration and regional stability.

Joseph Kalimbwe’s A Fake UPND Member Lying for 2 Years That He’s HH’s Secretary

DEMYSTIFYING JOSEPH KALIMBWE’S ATTACKS AGAINST PRESIDENT HICHILEMA.

DATE 17/7/2023

The SADC region woke up to the sight of a 2 paragraph statement authored by a self proclaimed UPND Information Secretary who announced that UPND party youths are now cutting off their support of their own President, Hakainde Hichilema. The statement has far reaching effects if it is a true reflection not only of the party’s affairs, but of the security in the SADC region, especially after the extraordinary summit in Angola out of which Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa sprang out expressing determination to twist the meeting minutes.

ZimEye carried an investigation which began with a telephone initial interview with Kalimbwe, and discovered deceptions of an extreme kind, which this introduction attempts to lay out in brief.

  1. Has Joseph Kalimbwe been at any time a UPND party Secretary or office holder?

Answer: No. Kalimbwe has never at any time been an office holder in the UPND.

  1. On what basis has Joseph Kalimbwe been claiming he is a UPND Secretary?

Answer: Fraud. He concurs with ZimEye in the Friday discussion that he has been fraudulently representing the Head Of The Head Of State and his party.

  1. Has Joseph Kalimbwe at any time been assigned to represent President Hakainde Hichilema?

Answer: Never happened at any time.

  1. How did Joseph Kalimbwe rise to sudden fame?

Answer: He gate crashed a visit by CCC President Nelson Chamisa around 24-5 Aug 2021 through a Lusaka based male Zimbabwean friend of his so to pose for photographs with Chamisa and Tendai Biti. Soon after that he started claiming he represents the UPND, not through any Zambian association, but the photographs with Chamisa at a restaurant location.

  1. Has Joseph Kalimbwe at any time been attacked or harrassed over his support for Nelson Chamisa?

Answer: No. None of that has ever happened. It is in fact Kalimbwe who is compromising or attacking Chamisa through his Mnangagwa-agency-celebrated anti-Hichilema Twitter posts.

  1. Who are the “we” that Joseph Kalimbwe claims he is representing when he announces that he is pausing his (or their) support of President Hichilema?

Answer: He is still totally vague on who on earth he is representing when he writes. His wording is however similar to that of the GoldMafia agents recently exposed by ZimEye who have filmed themselves since April speaking in support of the money laundering mafia that continues to steal from central banks of various African countries so that they fund election rigging operations for dictatorships.

  1. By sustaining his anti Hichilema post, Kalimbwe has exposed the Head Of State to physical security level attacks fueled by anti HH rhetoric funneled from across the Zambezi in November.
  2. How is it possible for Kalimbwe to support Mnangagwa when he has appeared to be against Mnangagwa all this while?

Answer: This could be an obfuscation technique (hiding behind the veil, in order to conceal the corruption within)

ZRP Seizes Smuggled Honda Fits

The Police in Matabeleland South have dismantled a sophisticated smuggling syndicate operating at the Plumtree Border Post. The crackdown resulted in the recovery of five Honda Fit vehicles, all manufactured more than a decade ago, in violation of the government’s regulations banning the importation of vehicles older than 10 years.

The 2021 legislation, Statutory Instrument 89, aimed to rejuvenate the local motor industry, cut the import bill, and address environmental concerns, citing the role of second-hand cars in road accidents and climate change impacts.

The demand for Honda Fit vehicles, often utilized as pirate taxis, created a lucrative market for smugglers to exploit, leading to the illegal entry of these older vehicles into the country. The recovered vehicles were found at the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (Zimra) customs yard in Plumtree following their seizure.

Acting Officer Commanding Police in Bulilima and Mangwe districts, Superintendent Rosemary Mangena, highlighted the challenges faced by law enforcement, including porous borders and resource limitations for patrols along the extensive border line.

“The challenge that we have is the size of the border line which stretches from Mayobodo up to Maitengwe Border Post, which makes it difficult to patrol due to lack of resources,” said Supt Mangena.

She also mentioned the reliance on community cooperation and the collaboration with Botswana counterparts in joint operations to combat smuggling activities. Additionally, traditional leaders have formed crime liaison committees to enhance border security.

Smugglers, resorting to cutting the security perimeter fence, were not only bringing in vehicles but also engaging in the illegal transport of alcohol and groceries, particularly during the festive season.

To address these challenges, the government is set to deploy drones worth US$2 million for tight surveillance along the porous border posts. This initiative aims to bolster border control measures and curb the ongoing issue of smuggling, ultimately promoting national security and adherence to import regulations.

Nurse In Trouble For Playing Around With Medical Report

CHIKOMBA— Magistrate Sam Chitumwa has sentenced a Chivhu General Hospital nurse to 16 months in jail or a US$800 fine for tempering with a medical examination report of a rape victim.
Shamiso Mupfudze (46) should pay the fine by December 31, 2023.

The court heard that an alleged victim (16) was examined by Mupfudze at the hospital on January 18, 2023. Her examination allegedly concluded that the minor had been sexually abused.

She completed a medical affidavit serial number 014863 confirming her findings in the presence of the victim and her older sister.

Mupfudze’s job was to examine the victim using a rape kit, prepare a medical affidavit, keep a record of her observations and prescribe post–rape medication.
The affidavit was not commissioned on the day. Mupfudze then allegedly tore off the affidavit after the two left.
She completed another affidavit serial number 01484 and wrote that the examination was inconclusive as there was no fresh evidence of abuse…Full story on www.masvingomirror.com

Breakthrough For Rural Nurses

Government Abandons Online Recruitment, Paves the Way for Rural Nurses

The Ministry of Health and Child Care has dismantled the centralized online application system for nurses, opting for a decentralized approach to ensure fair access across the country. The online system had faced severe public backlash for sidelining qualified local applicants from securing positions in training schools within their regions.

The decision to overhaul the recruitment process comes after scrutiny revealed a concerning trend: a disproportionate number of trainee nurses were being recruited from areas distant from local hospitals. The Ministry’s statement outlined a new province-based recruitment strategy for the January 2024 general nurse training intake.

“Provinces will recruit in January, May, or September depending on availability of training posts,” the statement clarified. A total of 292 training posts are up for grabs at 12 institutions across seven provinces: Bulawayo, Harare, Manicaland, Mashonaland Central, Mashonaland East, Masvingo, and Midlands.

Applicants aspiring for the three-year diploma in general nurse training must meet minimum qualifications, including five Ordinary level subjects with English, Science, and Mathematics. The age range for candidates is set between 18 and 30 years on the commencement date of training, scheduled for January 8, 2024.

Zimbabwe Nurses Association (Zina) president, Mr. Enock Dongo, praised the shift, considering it a positive step. He recalled how recruitment was historically conducted in-person but was later shifted to an e-recruitment system to tackle corruption and public complaints.

Dongo stated, “However, over the years, there has been an outcry from disadvantaged citizens, who either have no internet or gadgets to access the system. This is why you see the ministry has decided to revert back to the old system which was decentralized.”

He emphasized that the move to decentralized recruitment could open doors for individuals from various provinces to secure training posts and, eventually, employment opportunities, addressing the long-standing issue of skilled individuals from specific areas missing out on these opportunities.- state media

Bata Offloads Employees

GWERU – Gweru, one of Zimbabwe’s heavy industrial hubs continues with its tailspin after Bata Shoe Company retrenched 106 workers on Monday this week.

Except for Bata, most of Gweru’s industrial area is now a ghost town with large companies like Zimasco,  ZimAlloys and even the National Railways of Zimbabwe having closed shop in the last two decades.

Unemployment rate in the country is estimated at 85%.
Bata’s decline is that last episode of the death of Gweru’s once vibrant heavy industry.  Gweru and Kwekwe were considered the capital of Zimbabwe’s heavy industry but now they both have none.

Bata Country Manager Simon Mutisya confirmed the development to The Mirror in an interview. He said the shoe company is failing to cope with a huge workforce.

The workers expressed shock and surprise at the move and said that they were caught unawares with no plans for the future. They also said that there were no retrenchment packages for them even though they had served for up to 10 years each.

“As you might be aware that some sections of the factory caught fire and might take time to come back on stream. As such some of these sections will be restructured and approximately 10 percent of the workforce ha been affected.……………Full story on www.masvingomirror.com

Community Pushes For Bridge Construction

Construction Of Mutirikwi Bridges Finally Commences After Years Of Procrastination

The government has considered the call by Masvingo community members to prioritize the construction of the Mutirikwe Bridge.

In the year 2019, speaking during a community dialogue meeting organized by Community Tolerance Reconciliation and Development (COTRAD), the community members of Masvingo central ward 16 and 18 raised a concern about the need for a bridge at Mutirikwe River.

https://www.thezimbabwean.co/2019/06/villagers-demand-construction-of-modern-bridge-to-enhance-accessibility/.

COTRAD peace structures have been continuously engaging ward 16 Mr. Demba, and Mr. Tandandi Ward 18 who were the councilor before the 2023 harmonized elections over the priority.

The council was continuously engaged by these 2 former councilors to construct the bridge over the past years. They even proposed the council to channel the 2020 plough back toward bridge construction but nothing materialized, the amount was too little. The council in 2021, managed to sit down during council meetings and do budget projections and concluded that it has no capacity to construct the bridge.

Masvingo central ward 16 and 18 public officials, therefore engaged the government and its Ministries to construct the Mutirikwe Bridge. They profiled transport challenges, the impact they had on accessing the referral hospitals, the effects on school children not attending school lessons during rainy seasons at Zivezano and Shonganiso, many have lost their lives in trying to cross the flooded river, and also that, people are long using long routes to travel to Masvingo CBD and other local communities. After the serious engagements by the public officials led by councilors Demba and Tandandi, the government has managed to take over and declared the construction of the bridge a National project. The pegging of the Mutirikwe Bridge has already started. One of the community members said, “I am pleased with the step taken by the government to peg the bridge hoping the construction will progress well”. A community committee responsible for the bridge construction was set up and the committee will lead all the processes and give updates to the community.
The COTRAD peace structures are playing a pivotal role in spearheading developments in the communities and the community applauded the work being done by COTRAD of equipping the peace structures and other community members with engagement skills which are improving interactions between duty bearers and the electorates as well as improving community development projects.

COTRAD encouraged Masvingo Rural District Council (RDC) to respond and provide key social services accessible. Section 276 of the constitution states that the council should raise sufficient revenue for them to carry out their objectives and responsibilities in areas of their jurisdiction.

The pictures below show the pegging of the Mutirikwe Bridge in progress…

Tshabangu Soils Tendai Biti

By- CCC rebel Sengezo Tshabangu has claimed that he had a dinner meeting last week with the CCC Vice President Tendai Biti at a local hotel.

Kariba Dam Water Levels Drop Down

By Farai D Hove | ZimEye | In an announcement, the Zambezi River Authority has disclosed a significant decrease in the water levels of the Kariba Dam. The authority’s statement on Monday revealed that the lake level has dwindled to 477.54m, reflecting a 14.16% usable storage, as of November 27, 2023. This is in stark contrast to the 476.10m level, with only 4.19% usable storage, recorded on the same date last year.

The Kariba Lake, a vital source for hydropower generation, is designed to operate within the range of 475.50m to 488.50m, incorporating a 0.70m freeboard. The current levels approaching the lower limit of this range raise concerns about the sustainability of hydropower production in the region.

This decline in water levels underscores the pressing need for heightened water management strategies and conservation efforts. Authorities are likely to closely monitor the situation, considering the potential impact on energy generation and the broader ecosystem. As the region grapples with changing environmental conditions, the Kariba Dam’s diminishing levels emphasize the delicate balance between energy needs and sustainable resource management.- ZimEye

Construction Of Mutirikwe Bridge Finally Commences After Years Of Procrastination

Community Members Take Initiative In Road Rehabilitation

Compiled by COTRAD Information

Masvingo Central wards 13, 17 community members collaborate in road rehabilitation

Masvingo Central wards 13 and 17 community members availed resources towards road rehabilitation.

Masvingo Central, wards 13 and 17 traditional leaders, community members, and the local committees under Chief Shumba and Headman Chineka have joined hands towards road rehabilitation.

The roads that link Manunure Secondary School, Machitenda Primary School, Mushawasha, Nekanda and Mamoti Business centers were in a dilapidated state and for a long time the local council has not attended to the plight of the community members to maintain the roads. The bad state of the roads were causing challenges in connecting people to business centers, schools, facilitating trade, and enhancing overall socio-economic development.

The 2 wards therefore joined together to maintain the roads, their collaborations demonstrated a strong sense of unity and a shared vision.

COTRAD community groups engaged the community leaders, the Headman, the village heads and the community businesspeople over the bad state of the roads. After a series of engagements between local communities, public officials and community business people, the Village heads Ndingwa, Chineka, Ndowa, Chishawasha, Chikomo, Mamuto and Mahando just to mention a few, called for a community meeting to discuss the bad states of the roads which was affecting the majority of the community members, they agreed to rehabilitate the roads since the local council did not respond to the community’s request.

Two local businesspeople donated 110 bags of cement to ensure that the road rehabilitation efforts proceed smoothly and efficiently and all the village heads agreed to provide 10 wheelbarrows of concrete per village and $4 per village towards the transportation of pit sand. This collective effort, combined with the contributions from the village heads, emphasizes the unity and dedication of the community towards improving their roads.

The combined resources of 10 wheelbarrows of concrete per village, $4, and 110 bags of cement were valuable for repairing and resurfacing damaged road sections.

“When traditional leaders, local committees, community businesspeople and community members come together to support road rehabilitation, it shows a collective leadership and a shared responsibility for community development”, said Ndingwa, one of the ward 13 village heads. This collaborative approach to development fosters a sense of ownership to the initiative.

Community members hailed COTRAD for training and creating platforms that capacitate young people and women to peacefully engage community leaders when facing challenges. They alluded that community-led initiatives like these serve as a model for sustainable development, they encouraged communities to take similar actions and work towards improving their own infrastructures. The rehabilitation of the roads, shows the power of collective action and highlights the importance of community engagement.

COTRAD highlighted that it is essential for local councils, to prioritize the maintenance and improvement of roads as they play a vital role in connecting people. “The efforts of the traditional leaders, community members, and local committees in Masvingo are a step in the right direction toward achieving community development” said Leah Matavire COTRAD Information Officer.

The collaboration between wards 13 and 17 in Masvingo Central for road rehabilitation is a commendable example of community-driven development. By working together, they are taking proactive steps to address local infrastructure needs and create a better future for their community.

UK mulls the closure of temporary visa schemes for care workers

Amidst a surge in migration to the United Kingdom, the government is contemplating the closure of temporary visa schemes for care workers. This move follows an appeal from the New Conservatives party, supported by former Home Secretary Suella Braverman and former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, to reduce net migration by discontinuing these visa programs.

According to the Home Office, the number of health and care worker visas granted in the year ending September 2023 was 143,990, more than double the previous year’s figure of 61,274. The top three nationalities granted these visas were Indians, Nigerians, and Zimbabweans. Nigeria experienced the most significant percentage increase, followed by Zimbabwe and India.

The rise in healthcare worker migration to the UK can be attributed to favorable migration conditions and the country’s pressing need for healthcare professionals due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The influx of migrants has placed significant strain on accommodation and amenities in recent months, causing concern among Britons.

In a recent interview, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak acknowledged that net migration levels are too high. This sentiment was echoed by a senior minister who deemed the record number of arrivals in the previous year as unacceptable. Revised estimates from the Office for National Statistics reveal that net migration into the UK peaked at 745,000 in 2022, three times higher than pre-Brexit levels.

Furthermore, the National Health Service Trusts expressed their struggle to sustain social care with workers on visas, emphasizing the need for a sustainable solution.

As the United Kingdom grapples with the challenges posed by increased migration, the government is evaluating the feasibility of closing temporary visa schemes for care workers. By doing so, it aims to strike a balance between managing migration levels and meeting the healthcare needs of the nation, while ensuring the sustainability of social care services.

FAQs:

1. What is the reason behind considering the closure of temporary visa schemes for care workers in the UK?

The closure is being considered in response to the New Conservatives party’s call to reduce net migration and the strain caused by the high number of migrants entering the UK.

2. Which nationalities have the highest numbers of health and care worker visas in the UK?

According to the Home Office, Indians, Nigerians, and Zimbabweans have the highest numbers of health and care worker visas in the UK.

3. What led to the increase in healthcare workers migrating to the UK?

The increase is primarily driven by the UK’s favorable migration conditions and the urgent need for healthcare workers due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

4. What is the impact of increased migration on the UK’s accommodations and amenities?

The surge in migration has put significant pressure on accommodations and amenities, raising concerns among Britons.

5. How does the government perceive the current net migration levels?

The UK Prime Minister and a senior minister have both expressed the view that net migration levels are too high and need to be reduced. Via NewZimbabwe

Harare cholera cases rise

By A Correspondent- Figures released by the Ministry of Health and Child Care showed that Harare, the capital city of Zimbabwean, registered 93 new suspected cholera cases on Saturday against a national tally of 129, overtaking the southeast province of Manicaland to become the most affected by the pandemic.

Thus far, Harare has recorded 2,997 suspected cholera cases, 227 confirmed cases and 13 deaths since the outbreak of the disease in February.

However, Harare City Council spokesperson Stanley Gama said earlier on Thursday that the city had by then recorded 15 deaths.

The government has since ordered Harare City Council to remove illegal vendors from the streets as one of the ways to curb the spread of cholera.

Cholera, a water-borne disease caused by contaminated food or water, often spreads quickly throughout Zimbabwe because of its poor sanitation infrastructure and limited clean water.

As of Nov. 25, Zimbabwe’s 10 provinces had recorded 9,078 suspected cholera cases, 1,337 confirmed cases, 53 confirmed deaths and 156 suspected deaths, according to the official figures. NewZimbabwe

“Parents should teach their children about people with disability”: Soneni Gwizi shares her experience

Soneni “Thandeka” Gwizi

By A Correspondent- Radio personality and disability activist, Soneni Gwizi has taken to social media to share her experience urging parents to teach their children about people living with disability as they are ordinary people like everyone else.

Gwizi, an award winning motivational speaker broadcaster, influencer, and disability media facilitator who in 2018 became the Action on Disability and Development Ambassador for Africa posted on twitter:

Today I agree that I’m emotionally strong at the same time I felt embarrassed but I won’t let the darkness shadow my light

#ThisIsMyStory I was minding my own business going about doing my shopping. Everything was going fine until this happened. A 5/6 yrs child literally screamed & started pointing fingers at me as if “it” had seen a ghost or an alien.

Everyone in the shop started panicking wondering why the child was crying. I nearly lost my cool but I stood there in calmness- the child was screaming uncontrollable, the mom came & took the child away without even trying to explain to the child that I am a human being. The mother failed to handle the situation by acting the way she did.

Everyone in the shop was asking why the child was crying & the explanation left me hurting hearing hearing the was afraid of me. There was a lady who came to my rescue and we started talking about the whole encounter. I surely don’t look scary do I?

#MyConclusion

1. No human should experience that kind of embarrassment

2. Parents should teach their children about #PeopleWithDisabilities

3. Public places are for everyone

4. Be nice I encourage #PWDs not to allow negative encounters to stop them from living a purposeful life. Go out there and be You! Let your light shine so bright and scare all the demons

Stay safe! Stay Cool #PeopleWithDisabilities are ordinary people like you

16 Days of Activism Against GBV launched in Hauna

THE National 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) was on Sunday launched amid calls for advocacy to mobilize more national budgets for investments in preventing violence against women and girls.

The launch in Hauna, Manicaland province sadly came as concerns of continued increased gender-based violence (GBV) in Zimbabwe grew over the years with several issues, including poverty and disease outbreak fueling it.

Edward Kallon, UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Zimbabwe in a statement urged governments to allocate more resources to prevention services for gender-based violence to reduce the tremendous health, legal, and productivity costs that countries continue to bear due to the scourge.

“I am honoured to join you today for the national launch of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence. This year’s campaign carries the theme “UNITE! Invest to prevent violence against women and girls,” urging governments and stakeholders worldwide to invest in preventing gender-based violence.

“Urgent financial support is necessary to tackle these issues, strengthening international cooperation, monitoring budget allocations, implementing gender-responsive budgeting, and providing resources to women’s rights organizations’ are crucial for lasting, transformative changes for women and girls.

Kallon highlighted that as the theme of the 16 days aptly emphasized, financing or investment was a critical element in achieving gender equality (SDG5) and the rest of the SDGs.

“A substantial increase in finance flows is necessary.

“This entails engaging international financial institutions, multilateral development banks, the private sector, remittances, philanthropic foundations, and other sources.

“By embracing an integrated approach, harnessing technology, and innovation, mobilizing financing, and strengthening collaboration and coordination, we can pave the way for gender equality,” said the UN Coordinator.

According to him, it was sad to note that violence against women and girls remained a widespread human rights violation despite the existence of laws to combat such violence, enforcement challenges and discriminatory social norms continue to persist.

“Startling statistics reveal that approximately one in three women and girls experience gender-based violence, inhibiting their potential and contribution to their countries’ development.

“It is time we acknowledge that any form of violence against women and girls is a stain on our humanity and hampers peace, security, and sustainable development. Let us unite to combat all forms of violence and address their underlying causes.

“In Zimbabwe, for instance, the 2019 Zimbabwe Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey reported that 39.4% of women aged 15-49 experience physical violence at least once in their lifetime, while 11.6% experience sexual violence while one in three women between the ages of 20-49 were reportedly married before they turned 18,” Kallon stated.

Kallon explained that the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, conflicts, and climate change had further exacerbated violence against women and girls, intensifying existing challenges and introducing new disheartening threats, urging support of women’s organisations.

“We must support them and also create an enabling environment for them to flourish.

“We must also be conscious when promulgating new laws, that we don’t inadvertently encumber the progress of grassroots women organisations and movements.,” said Kallon.

The UN commended government on its successful collaboration under the United Nations Spotlight Initiative to Eliminate Violence Against Women and Girls, which is funded by the European Union (EU).

The Spotlight Initiative has made significant investments in prevention efforts, reaching over two million people through campaigns, and directly engaging 50,000 individuals in five provinces through increased advocacy by gender champions and implementing partners.

“We especially applaud the High-Level Political Compact (HLPC) on Ending Gender-based Violence and Harmful Practices in Zimbabwe, signed by His Excellency President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa.

“This commitment demonstrates a bold dedication to sustained political commitment and engagement at the highest level in the fight against violence targeting women, girls, and harmful practices,” Kallon told stakeholders.”

He however warned that failure to curb GBV and inadequate support and empowering of women and girls led to a lack of development.

“Some countries estimate that gender-based violence incurs an economic impact of about 3.7% of GDP, yet investment in addressing this issue remains as low as 0.2% of overall aid in 2022. Such a significant cost cannot be ignored.”

“We currently face formidable challenges, with only about 15% of SDGs targets on track and significant gaps persisting in various areas.

“Policymakers must adopt an integrated approach that recognizes the interconnected nature of the SDGs. We need to navigate the synergies and trade-offs between different goals and take a holistic view of development.”

He committed the entire UN system in Zimbabwe to work with diverse stakeholders to support the Women and Gender Minister Monica Mutsvangwa in her effort to accelerate progress on gender equality at all levels and end violence against women and girls.

“The UN Country Team in Zimbabwe, along with our various entities coordinated by my office and technically led by UN Women, will focus on supporting the Government of Zimbabwe and your Ministry in four key actions: driving shifts in policy and regulatory frameworks, facilitating the development of bankable projects, attracting financing from various sources, and providing capacity.” NewZimbabwe

Reprieve for Umzingwane Rural District Council CEO

By A Correspondent- Umzingwane Rural District Council chief executive Ndumiso Mpofu was on Wednesday last week acquitted at the close of the State’s case where he was being charged with criminal abuse of office.

Mpofu (57) was arrested in 2021 by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (Zacc) but he was freed after the court said there was no evidence linking him to the offence.

He was being represented by Dumisani Dube of Dube Legal Practice. He pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Gwanda magistrate Charity Maphosa dismissed the charges.

Mpofu was arrested in Esigodini sometime in 2021 and he initially appeared before then Esigodini magistrate Nomagugu Sibanda before the matter was transferred to Gwanda.

In a warned and cautioned statement signed on May 18, 2021, it was noted that Mpofu was informed by Zacc investigations officer Nyasha Muchenje that inquiries were being made in connection with a case ofabuse of office.

It was alleged that during the period stretching from 2017 to 2020, Mpofu unlawfully and intentionally flouted tender procedures when he handpicked six land developers namely Thy Strength Investments, Zotway Investments (PVT) Ltd, Wamafari Enclave (PVT) Ltd, Party Mhlanga, G&G Properties and Shashec Enterprises (PVT) Limited, which he allegedly unilaterally and corruptly contracted to construct two-roomed residential houses.

The houses belonged to Umzingwane RDC and were built at a cost of US$996 000 which is above the US$10 000 tendering threshold. Mpofu allegedly approved the contracts without going to tender and without authority of Procurement Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe contrary to and inconsistent with his duties as a public officer.

It was also alleged that Mpofu, on September 2, 2019 unlawfully sold State land designated for a community multi-sport centre to a company known as Trukumb Mining (PVT) Ltd for US$76 000 without going to tender or getting council approval.

The land in question measures 3,96 hectares and appears in the Department of Physical Site Plan as a proposed sports complex site, Habane referenced GA 364. NewsDay

Exeter graduate secure more than 270k pounds for Africa project

By A Correspondent- A University of Exeter graduate has secured more than £270,000 of funding for a regenerative agriculture project in Africa.

Hugo Winkfield, who graduated in biological sciences from the university in July 2023, took up a work placement opportunity in the Mount Darwin district of Zimbabwe.

The project inolves transforming part of Agriculture Research Trust’s (ART) farm into a centre of excellence for training. It also includes working with smallholder farmers in the Mount Darwin district, by supporting them to implement agroecological practices on land recently cleared from mines by the Halo Trust.

Hugo will lead the research component of the ART farm regenerative agriculture project. The research will help to build evidence on the value of regenerative agriculture to influence national policy in Zimbabwe.

The funding, which is from Oak Foundation, runs for two years or more.

“I knew nothing about farming before I started the placement – I hardly knew what a plough did,” said the 23-year-old.

“I really committed myself and I learned a huge amount about how to farm arable crops, from the top farmers and researchers in Zimbabwe. I learned that you must aim for as much as you possibly can, given even the smallest opportunity or responsibility and it usually pays off.

“Sometimes, feeling underqualified for what you are doing is normal, and likely means you are pushing yourself to achieve more than you thought you ever could.

“My degree gave me the skills to think in a rigorous scientific manner and apply the broad theory I had learned to the specific application of farming. My ecological understanding allowed me to design the cropping systems trials in a way which was beneficial for not just the local area, but on a global scale, too.

“[Zimbabwe] is an amazing country. You do have to adjust to some things – the traffic lights don’t always work, there are power cuts, potholes and occasional food shortages. But the people here are so kind, friendly, jolly, and they savour the simple things in life. The country has beautiful landscapes and is teeming with wildlife, has a rich culture, and (unofficially) the best weather in the world.”

Hugo’s research is funded by Agricultural Partnership Trust (APT) which is in collaboration with Agriculture Research Trust (ART). NewZimbabwe

“Mazivanhu eMDC ajaira kudya anyerere!”

By Wilbert Mukori| The social media is abuzz!

Douglas Mwonzora, the leader of the MDC-Alliance alongside his counterpart Elias Mudzuri are currently at the Zanu PF Headquarters and have officially joined Zanu PF,” reads one report.

“This publication has confirmed the development and revealed that the two have been welcomed by Blessing Chebundo who is currently manning the Returnees4ED desk at the Zanu Pf Headquarters.

“Mwonzora and Mudzuri have pledged allegiance to President Mnangagwa. They all said they will be campaigning for Zanu-PF in the coming by-elections which are set to be held in December.”

If this story is true, it will not surprise me in the least; because I really cannot think of anything anyone of the opposition leaders, not just these two, has ever done to be considered an enemy of Zanu PF.

When it really mattered, such as implementing the democratic reforms during the 2008 to 2013 GNU. Not even one MDC leaders out of the 110 MPs, 50 senators, 26 plus ministers and deputy ministers, 2 deputy PMs and one PM, dared to disappoint Zanu PF by submitting even one token proposal.

Most of the MDC-T and MDC-N leaders must have known that the 2013 constitution was weak; after all Mugabe had “dictated” the document, as Paul Mangwana, Zanu PF’s co-chairperson of the parliamentary committee that drafted the constitution, boasted after the March 2013 referendum. Still all the MDC leaders came out is force to suppose the constitution in the referendum. Tsvangirai even claim the new constitution was “an MDC child!”

“Mazivanhu eMDC adzidza kudya anyerere!” (MDC leaders have learned to enjoy the grant train benefits and not rock the boat!) boasted Zanu PF cronies when asked why MDC leaders were not implementing any democratic reforms during the GNU.

With not even one token reform implemented and a feeble new constitution, SADC leaders wanted the 2013 Zimbabwe elections to be postponed in a last minute bid to have the democratic reforms implemented before the election.

“In 2013 the Maputo Summit, in June 2013, before the elections, the Maputo Summit was all about having the elections postponed – the SADC summit. I went there,” Dr Ibbo Mandaza told Journalist Violet Gonda in 2017.

“I was there at the Summit and Mugabe pretended to agree to a postponement of the elections. If you recall, the postponement was based on the need to reform, at least electoral laws, (to be implemented before the elections).

“And after that Summit, Morgan Tsvangirai, Tendai Biti, Welshman Ncube, all of them were called to a separate meeting by the Heads of State of SADC in the absence of Mugabe, that same evening. And they were told; I was sitting there outside the room with Mac Maharaj; they were told ‘if you go into elections next month, you are going to lose; the elections are done’.”

As we know all the MDC leaders without exception participating in the 2013 elections in defiance of the SADC leaders’s advice. And MDC leaders have all been participating in flawed elections since, “so flawed, so illegal, that the only logical step was to withdraw,” as David Coltart confessed in his book.

The 2017 military coup would have been a transformative moment for Zanu PF if the any of the MDC leaders had denounce the coup for what it was – an illegitimate and unconstitutional move. Instead Morgan Tsvangirai and the rest of the MDC leaders came out in support of the coup and even called on their supporters to join the street demos calling on Mugabe to resign.

Many people were surprised that Nelson Chamisa did not demand that Constitutional Court must order the opening of the 12 Polling Station ballot boxes to verify the results. The V11 forms, a summary of the vote count of each candidate, in two or three of these PSs were identical in very respect, same total number of ballots cast, same vote count for each candidate, same spoilt ballots, etc. and most notable of all Mnangagwa had a commanding lead. The only rational explanation was the result was one PS enter twice or three times.

Double entry of the V11 was easy what would not be so easy to do is creating a duplicate PS! Chamisa’s legal team was asked by the Judge why they did not request the sealed ballot boxes from all the 12 PSs to be opened? It turned out that they are the ones who did not want the boxes opened. The gave some feeble excuse!

“MDC vanoziva kuti apa pakasungwa noruwhaya!” (MDC leaders know that there some matters they are not allowed to touch!) boasted George Charamba, Mugabe and now Mnangagwa’s spokesperson, when asked why the opposition has never ever taken Zanu PF to task on any important matter. Never ever!

Each time there is any falling out in the opposition camp the fall guy is always accused having been a Zanu PF agents. When it mattered they all acted as one in not rock the boat, in making sure the untouchables were left untouched, etc. but at every opportune moment they are as keen as mustard to off load all the party’s cases of corruption and incompetence on the scapegoat.

Each time fall guy realises that his/her chances of ever being welcome back in the opposition camp are poor they cross the floor and join Zanu PF. Zanu PF has always welcomed these former opposition leaders after all they did the party a great favour by not rocking the boat, etc. when they could have.

“Kwawabva kanda huyo, kounoenda kanda huyo!” (You should always be careful to make friends where you are going and come from; because you never know!) so goes the Shona adage.

It is no exaggeration that none of Zimbabwe opposition leaders ever dreamt that their political party could ever replace Zanu PF and govern the country alone. The most they could achieve is govern with a Zanu PF offshoot as a partner. And so the opposition has always been cautious never ever to rock the boat, touch the untouchable, etc. to be certain of Zanu PF partners in future.

By failing to implement even one democratic reform the MDC leaders were betraying the ordinary Zimbabweans whoo were risking all to elect them into office for that express purpose. Fortunately for Tsvangirai a company they have always managed to get away with the selling out because most of the masses had no clue what the reforms are much less how they were implemented.

Even to this day, with the benefit of post GNU hindsight, most ordinary Zimbabweans still have no clue what the reforms are. How can they blame MDC/CCC leaders of selling out of something they do not know.

So when it came to betraying the people by selling out on reforms or implement the reforms and rock the boat and upset Mugabe and company. Tsvangirai and company chose to betray the masses because they knew they would get away with it. And so, far at least, povo has never held them to account.

Yesterday it was Obert Gutu and a few others who left the opposition to join Zanu PF. Today it is Mwonzora and Mudzuri. Next year it could be anyone of the remaining leaders, Nelson Chamisa, David Coltart, Tendai Biti, etc.

They will all be welcomed by Zanu PF because, when it mattered, none of the rocked the Zanu PF boat or touched the regime’s untouchables. Of course they knew they were/are betraying the nation to please Zanu PF; they did not care then and still do not care!
