By Farai D Hove | ZimEye | In an announcement, the Zambezi River Authority has disclosed a significant decrease in the water levels of the Kariba Dam. The authority’s statement on Monday revealed that the lake level has dwindled to 477.54m, reflecting a 14.16% usable storage, as of November 27, 2023. This is in stark contrast to the 476.10m level, with only 4.19% usable storage, recorded on the same date last year.
The Kariba Lake, a vital source for hydropower generation, is designed to operate within the range of 475.50m to 488.50m, incorporating a 0.70m freeboard. The current levels approaching the lower limit of this range raise concerns about the sustainability of hydropower production in the region.
This decline in water levels underscores the pressing need for heightened water management strategies and conservation efforts. Authorities are likely to closely monitor the situation, considering the potential impact on energy generation and the broader ecosystem. As the region grapples with changing environmental conditions, the Kariba Dam’s diminishing levels emphasize the delicate balance between energy needs and sustainable resource management.- ZimEye
By- Controversial CCC member calling himself the party’s interim secretary general, Sengezo Chabangu, has claimed that he had a dinner meeting last week with the CCC Vice President Tendai Biti at a local hotel.
However, Biti has dismissed these claims on social media that he had dinner with Tshabangu at Monomotapa Crowne Plaza in Harare.
Tshabangu is the public face behind the ongoing recall of CCC MPs, senators and councillors, though some commentators believe he is working with disgruntled CCC members.
According to an X account bearing Tshabangu’s name, Biti had dinner with the controversial activist soon after the latter’s recent interview on ZBC TV.
Read the post:
Just after my interview on ZBC, I had dinner with one of our decorated Change Champions and learned man Hon Biti @Crown Plaza, as he’s a victim of dictatorship, we deliberated on pertinent issues that will add value to our Struggle for democracy, transparency and constitutionalism.
However, Biti told The NewsHawks that he hasn’t met Tshabangu in a long time and has not had a meal at Monomotapa Hotel in 20 years. Said Biti:
That’s false and malicious. I haven’t seen Tshabangu for a long time and haven’t eaten at Crowne Plaza for 20 years now!
Biti reiterated that he has nothing to do with the issue of recalls which have resulted in the expulsion of scores of CCC elected representatives in parliament and municipalities.

In Zimbabwe, there is a cultural belief in avenging spirits, which is often referred to as “Ngozi”.
According to this belief, avenging spirits are the restless spirits of individuals who have died under tragic or unjust circumstances, such as murder or accidental death.
These spirits are believed to seek justice or revenge for their untimely demise.
The relatives of the deceased would perform some rituals at the accident or murder scene or at the grave to incite the spirit of the deceased to seek vengeance.
It is believed that the avenging spirit will haunt the murderer and his family or her family, bringing misfortune, illness, or even death until the wrong is acknowledged and resolved through traditional rituals and appeasement of the spirit.
By Court Correspondent | The judgment in the case involving ZANU PF member Mr. Pius Jamba, accused of murdering former Zengeza MP Job Sikhala ‘s client Moreblessing Ali, a CCC mother of two, has been postponed to December 4, 2023. High Court judge Esther Muremba mentioned that she is still considering the verdict after the State presented its case last week.
Jamba allegedly killed Ali, decapitated her, and disposed of her body in a well at his mother’s homestead in Beatrice in June 2022. The decomposed body was found a few days later and remains unburied to this day. Despite seven witnesses testifying against him, including his mother and sister, Jamba denies the charges, claiming he was framed due to political tension in the Nyatsime area.
The incident began at a Night Club in Nyatsime where Ali had a confrontation with Jamba. After leaving the club with her friend Mayironi, Ali was allegedly attacked by Jamba, leading to a struggle. Mayironi was injured during the altercation, and Jamba fled the scene, claiming he was coerced into admitting the crime later.
“He pelted stones from the catapult and threw bricks directed at the night club so that nobody would manage to apprehend him or rescue the now-deceased…
“The accused took the now deceased from the vicinity of Chibhanguza Night Club to an unknown secluded place
“The accused person struck the deceased using an unknown instrument with the intention to cause her death, he strangled the now deceased using her trousers thereby causing her death.
“The accused then used an unknown instrument to cut the body of the now deceased into three pieces consisting of the upper torso and two legs,” the State outline says.
The accused then went on to throw the deceased body into a well at his mother’s homestead.
The deceased remains were discovered by the suspects mother a few days later.

The government has considered the call by Masvingo community members to prioritize the construction of the Mutirikwe Bridge.
In the year 2019, speaking during a community dialogue meeting organized by Community Tolerance Reconciliation and Development (COTRAD), the community members of Masvingo central ward 16 and 18 raised a concern about the need for a bridge at Mutirikwe River.
COTRAD peace structures have been continuously engaging ward 16 Mr. Demba, and Mr. Tandandi Ward 18 who were the councilor before the 2023 harmonized elections over the priority.
The council was continuously engaged by these 2 former councilors to construct the bridge over the past years. They even proposed the council to channel the 2020 plough back toward bridge construction but nothing materialized, the amount was too little. The council in 2021, managed to sit down during council meetings and do budget projections and concluded that it has no capacity to construct the bridge.
Masvingo central ward 16 and 18 public officials, therefore engaged the government and its Ministries to construct the Mutirikwe Bridge. They profiled transport challenges, the impact they had on accessing the referral hospitals, the effects on school children not attending school lessons during rainy seasons at Zivezano and Shonganiso, many have lost their lives in trying to cross the flooded river, and also that, people are long using long routes to travel to Masvingo CBD and other local communities. After the serious engagements by the public officials led by councilors Demba and Tandandi, the government has managed to take over and declared the construction of the bridge a National project. The pegging of the Mutirikwe Bridge has already started. One of the community members said, “I am pleased with the step taken by the government to peg the bridge hoping the construction will progress well”. A community committee responsible for the bridge construction was set up and the committee will lead all the processes and give updates to the community. The COTRAD peace structures are playing a pivotal role in spearheading developments in the communities and the community applauded the work being done by COTRAD of equipping the peace structures and other community members with engagement skills which are improving interactions between duty bearers and the electorates as well as improving community development projects.
COTRAD encouraged Masvingo Rural District Council (RDC) to respond and provide key social services accessible. Section 276 of the constitution states that the council should raise sufficient revenue for them to carry out their objectives and responsibilities in areas of their jurisdiction.
The pictures below show the pegging of the Mutirikwe Bridge in progress…

Masvingo Central wards 13, 17 community members collaborate in road rehabilitation
Masvingo Central wards 13 and 17 community members availed resources towards road rehabilitation.
Masvingo Central, wards 13 and 17 traditional leaders, community members, and the local committees under Chief Shumba and Headman Chineka have joined hands towards road rehabilitation.
The roads that link Manunure Secondary School, Machitenda Primary School, Mushawasha, Nekanda and Mamoti Business centers were in a dilapidated state and for a long time the local council has not attended to the plight of the community members to maintain the roads. The bad state of the roads were causing challenges in connecting people to business centers, schools, facilitating trade, and enhancing overall socio-economic development.
The 2 wards therefore joined together to maintain the roads, their collaborations demonstrated a strong sense of unity and a shared vision.
COTRAD community groups engaged the community leaders, the Headman, the village heads and the community businesspeople over the bad state of the roads. After a series of engagements between local communities, public officials and community business people, the Village heads Ndingwa, Chineka, Ndowa, Chishawasha, Chikomo, Mamuto and Mahando just to mention a few, called for a community meeting to discuss the bad states of the roads which was affecting the majority of the community members, they agreed to rehabilitate the roads since the local council did not respond to the community’s request.
Two local businesspeople donated 110 bags of cement to ensure that the road rehabilitation efforts proceed smoothly and efficiently and all the village heads agreed to provide 10 wheelbarrows of concrete per village and $4 per village towards the transportation of pit sand. This collective effort, combined with the contributions from the village heads, emphasizes the unity and dedication of the community towards improving their roads.
The combined resources of 10 wheelbarrows of concrete per village, $4, and 110 bags of cement were valuable for repairing and resurfacing damaged road sections.
“When traditional leaders, local committees, community businesspeople and community members come together to support road rehabilitation, it shows a collective leadership and a shared responsibility for community development”, said Ndingwa, one of the ward 13 village heads. This collaborative approach to development fosters a sense of ownership to the initiative.
Community members hailed COTRAD for training and creating platforms that capacitate young people and women to peacefully engage community leaders when facing challenges. They alluded that community-led initiatives like these serve as a model for sustainable development, they encouraged communities to take similar actions and work towards improving their own infrastructures. The rehabilitation of the roads, shows the power of collective action and highlights the importance of community engagement.
COTRAD highlighted that it is essential for local councils, to prioritize the maintenance and improvement of roads as they play a vital role in connecting people. “The efforts of the traditional leaders, community members, and local committees in Masvingo are a step in the right direction toward achieving community development” said Leah Matavire COTRAD Information Officer.
The collaboration between wards 13 and 17 in Masvingo Central for road rehabilitation is a commendable example of community-driven development. By working together, they are taking proactive steps to address local infrastructure needs and create a better future for their community.
Amidst a surge in migration to the United Kingdom, the government is contemplating the closure of temporary visa schemes for care workers. This move follows an appeal from the New Conservatives party, supported by former Home Secretary Suella Braverman and former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, to reduce net migration by discontinuing these visa programs.
According to the Home Office, the number of health and care worker visas granted in the year ending September 2023 was 143,990, more than double the previous year’s figure of 61,274. The top three nationalities granted these visas were Indians, Nigerians, and Zimbabweans. Nigeria experienced the most significant percentage increase, followed by Zimbabwe and India.
The rise in healthcare worker migration to the UK can be attributed to favorable migration conditions and the country’s pressing need for healthcare professionals due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The influx of migrants has placed significant strain on accommodation and amenities in recent months, causing concern among Britons.
In a recent interview, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak acknowledged that net migration levels are too high. This sentiment was echoed by a senior minister who deemed the record number of arrivals in the previous year as unacceptable. Revised estimates from the Office for National Statistics reveal that net migration into the UK peaked at 745,000 in 2022, three times higher than pre-Brexit levels.
Furthermore, the National Health Service Trusts expressed their struggle to sustain social care with workers on visas, emphasizing the need for a sustainable solution.
As the United Kingdom grapples with the challenges posed by increased migration, the government is evaluating the feasibility of closing temporary visa schemes for care workers. By doing so, it aims to strike a balance between managing migration levels and meeting the healthcare needs of the nation, while ensuring the sustainability of social care services.

By A Correspondent- Figures released by the Ministry of Health and Child Care showed that Harare, the capital city of Zimbabwean, registered 93 new suspected cholera cases on Saturday against a national tally of 129, overtaking the southeast province of Manicaland to become the most affected by the pandemic.
Thus far, Harare has recorded 2,997 suspected cholera cases, 227 confirmed cases and 13 deaths since the outbreak of the disease in February.
However, Harare City Council spokesperson Stanley Gama said earlier on Thursday that the city had by then recorded 15 deaths.
The government has since ordered Harare City Council to remove illegal vendors from the streets as one of the ways to curb the spread of cholera.
Cholera, a water-borne disease caused by contaminated food or water, often spreads quickly throughout Zimbabwe because of its poor sanitation infrastructure and limited clean water.
As of Nov. 25, Zimbabwe’s 10 provinces had recorded 9,078 suspected cholera cases, 1,337 confirmed cases, 53 confirmed deaths and 156 suspected deaths, according to the official figures. NewZimbabwe
By A Correspondent- Radio personality and disability activist, Soneni Gwizi has taken to social media to share her experience urging parents to teach their children about people living with disability as they are ordinary people like everyone else.
Gwizi, an award winning motivational speaker broadcaster, influencer, and disability media facilitator who in 2018 became the Action on Disability and Development Ambassador for Africa posted on twitter:
Today I agree that I’m emotionally strong at the same time I felt embarrassed but I won’t let the darkness shadow my light
#ThisIsMyStory I was minding my own business going about doing my shopping. Everything was going fine until this happened. A 5/6 yrs child literally screamed & started pointing fingers at me as if “it” had seen a ghost or an alien.
Everyone in the shop started panicking wondering why the child was crying. I nearly lost my cool but I stood there in calmness- the child was screaming uncontrollable, the mom came & took the child away without even trying to explain to the child that I am a human being. The mother failed to handle the situation by acting the way she did.
Everyone in the shop was asking why the child was crying & the explanation left me hurting hearing hearing the was afraid of me. There was a lady who came to my rescue and we started talking about the whole encounter. I surely don’t look scary do I?
4. Be nice I encourage #PWDs not to allow negative encounters to stop them from living a purposeful life. Go out there and be You! Let your light shine so bright and scare all the demons
THE National 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) was on Sunday launched amid calls for advocacy to mobilize more national budgets for investments in preventing violence against women and girls.
The launch in Hauna, Manicaland province sadly came as concerns of continued increased gender-based violence (GBV) in Zimbabwe grew over the years with several issues, including poverty and disease outbreak fueling it.
Edward Kallon, UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Zimbabwe in a statement urged governments to allocate more resources to prevention services for gender-based violence to reduce the tremendous health, legal, and productivity costs that countries continue to bear due to the scourge.
“I am honoured to join you today for the national launch of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence. This year’s campaign carries the theme “UNITE! Invest to prevent violence against women and girls,” urging governments and stakeholders worldwide to invest in preventing gender-based violence.
“Urgent financial support is necessary to tackle these issues, strengthening international cooperation, monitoring budget allocations, implementing gender-responsive budgeting, and providing resources to women’s rights organizations’ are crucial for lasting, transformative changes for women and girls.
Kallon highlighted that as the theme of the 16 days aptly emphasized, financing or investment was a critical element in achieving gender equality (SDG5) and the rest of the SDGs.
“A substantial increase in finance flows is necessary.
“This entails engaging international financial institutions, multilateral development banks, the private sector, remittances, philanthropic foundations, and other sources.
“By embracing an integrated approach, harnessing technology, and innovation, mobilizing financing, and strengthening collaboration and coordination, we can pave the way for gender equality,” said the UN Coordinator.
According to him, it was sad to note that violence against women and girls remained a widespread human rights violation despite the existence of laws to combat such violence, enforcement challenges and discriminatory social norms continue to persist.
“Startling statistics reveal that approximately one in three women and girls experience gender-based violence, inhibiting their potential and contribution to their countries’ development.
“It is time we acknowledge that any form of violence against women and girls is a stain on our humanity and hampers peace, security, and sustainable development. Let us unite to combat all forms of violence and address their underlying causes.
“In Zimbabwe, for instance, the 2019 Zimbabwe Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey reported that 39.4% of women aged 15-49 experience physical violence at least once in their lifetime, while 11.6% experience sexual violence while one in three women between the ages of 20-49 were reportedly married before they turned 18,” Kallon stated.
Kallon explained that the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, conflicts, and climate change had further exacerbated violence against women and girls, intensifying existing challenges and introducing new disheartening threats, urging support of women’s organisations.
“We must support them and also create an enabling environment for them to flourish.
“We must also be conscious when promulgating new laws, that we don’t inadvertently encumber the progress of grassroots women organisations and movements.,” said Kallon.
The UN commended government on its successful collaboration under the United Nations Spotlight Initiative to Eliminate Violence Against Women and Girls, which is funded by the European Union (EU).
The Spotlight Initiative has made significant investments in prevention efforts, reaching over two million people through campaigns, and directly engaging 50,000 individuals in five provinces through increased advocacy by gender champions and implementing partners.
“We especially applaud the High-Level Political Compact (HLPC) on Ending Gender-based Violence and Harmful Practices in Zimbabwe, signed by His Excellency President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa.
“This commitment demonstrates a bold dedication to sustained political commitment and engagement at the highest level in the fight against violence targeting women, girls, and harmful practices,” Kallon told stakeholders.”
He however warned that failure to curb GBV and inadequate support and empowering of women and girls led to a lack of development.
“Some countries estimate that gender-based violence incurs an economic impact of about 3.7% of GDP, yet investment in addressing this issue remains as low as 0.2% of overall aid in 2022. Such a significant cost cannot be ignored.”
“We currently face formidable challenges, with only about 15% of SDGs targets on track and significant gaps persisting in various areas.
“Policymakers must adopt an integrated approach that recognizes the interconnected nature of the SDGs. We need to navigate the synergies and trade-offs between different goals and take a holistic view of development.”
He committed the entire UN system in Zimbabwe to work with diverse stakeholders to support the Women and Gender Minister Monica Mutsvangwa in her effort to accelerate progress on gender equality at all levels and end violence against women and girls.
“The UN Country Team in Zimbabwe, along with our various entities coordinated by my office and technically led by UN Women, will focus on supporting the Government of Zimbabwe and your Ministry in four key actions: driving shifts in policy and regulatory frameworks, facilitating the development of bankable projects, attracting financing from various sources, and providing capacity.” NewZimbabwe
By A Correspondent- Umzingwane Rural District Council chief executive Ndumiso Mpofu was on Wednesday last week acquitted at the close of the State’s case where he was being charged with criminal abuse of office.
Mpofu (57) was arrested in 2021 by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (Zacc) but he was freed after the court said there was no evidence linking him to the offence.
He was being represented by Dumisani Dube of Dube Legal Practice. He pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Gwanda magistrate Charity Maphosa dismissed the charges.
Mpofu was arrested in Esigodini sometime in 2021 and he initially appeared before then Esigodini magistrate Nomagugu Sibanda before the matter was transferred to Gwanda.
In a warned and cautioned statement signed on May 18, 2021, it was noted that Mpofu was informed by Zacc investigations officer Nyasha Muchenje that inquiries were being made in connection with a case ofabuse of office.
It was alleged that during the period stretching from 2017 to 2020, Mpofu unlawfully and intentionally flouted tender procedures when he handpicked six land developers namely Thy Strength Investments, Zotway Investments (PVT) Ltd, Wamafari Enclave (PVT) Ltd, Party Mhlanga, G&G Properties and Shashec Enterprises (PVT) Limited, which he allegedly unilaterally and corruptly contracted to construct two-roomed residential houses.
The houses belonged to Umzingwane RDC and were built at a cost of US$996 000 which is above the US$10 000 tendering threshold. Mpofu allegedly approved the contracts without going to tender and without authority of Procurement Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe contrary to and inconsistent with his duties as a public officer.
It was also alleged that Mpofu, on September 2, 2019 unlawfully sold State land designated for a community multi-sport centre to a company known as Trukumb Mining (PVT) Ltd for US$76 000 without going to tender or getting council approval.
The land in question measures 3,96 hectares and appears in the Department of Physical Site Plan as a proposed sports complex site, Habane referenced GA 364. NewsDay
By A Correspondent- A University of Exeter graduate has secured more than £270,000 of funding for a regenerative agriculture project in Africa.
Hugo Winkfield, who graduated in biological sciences from the university in July 2023, took up a work placement opportunity in the Mount Darwin district of Zimbabwe.
The project inolves transforming part of Agriculture Research Trust’s (ART) farm into a centre of excellence for training. It also includes working with smallholder farmers in the Mount Darwin district, by supporting them to implement agroecological practices on land recently cleared from mines by the Halo Trust.
Hugo will lead the research component of the ART farm regenerative agriculture project. The research will help to build evidence on the value of regenerative agriculture to influence national policy in Zimbabwe.
The funding, which is from Oak Foundation, runs for two years or more.
“I knew nothing about farming before I started the placement – I hardly knew what a plough did,” said the 23-year-old.
“I really committed myself and I learned a huge amount about how to farm arable crops, from the top farmers and researchers in Zimbabwe. I learned that you must aim for as much as you possibly can, given even the smallest opportunity or responsibility and it usually pays off.
“Sometimes, feeling underqualified for what you are doing is normal, and likely means you are pushing yourself to achieve more than you thought you ever could.
“My degree gave me the skills to think in a rigorous scientific manner and apply the broad theory I had learned to the specific application of farming. My ecological understanding allowed me to design the cropping systems trials in a way which was beneficial for not just the local area, but on a global scale, too.
“[Zimbabwe] is an amazing country. You do have to adjust to some things – the traffic lights don’t always work, there are power cuts, potholes and occasional food shortages. But the people here are so kind, friendly, jolly, and they savour the simple things in life. The country has beautiful landscapes and is teeming with wildlife, has a rich culture, and (unofficially) the best weather in the world.”
Hugo’s research is funded by Agricultural Partnership Trust (APT) which is in collaboration with Agriculture Research Trust (ART). NewZimbabwe
“Douglas Mwonzora, the leader of the MDC-Alliance alongside his counterpart Elias Mudzuri are currently at the Zanu PF Headquarters and have officially joined Zanu PF,” reads one report.
“This publication has confirmed the development and revealed that the two have been welcomed by Blessing Chebundo who is currently manning the Returnees4ED desk at the Zanu Pf Headquarters.
“Mwonzora and Mudzuri have pledged allegiance to President Mnangagwa. They all said they will be campaigning for Zanu-PF in the coming by-elections which are set to be held in December.”
If this story is true, it will not surprise me in the least; because I really cannot think of anything anyone of the opposition leaders, not just these two, has ever done to be considered an enemy of Zanu PF.
When it really mattered, such as implementing the democratic reforms during the 2008 to 2013 GNU. Not even one MDC leaders out of the 110 MPs, 50 senators, 26 plus ministers and deputy ministers, 2 deputy PMs and one PM, dared to disappoint Zanu PF by submitting even one token proposal.
Most of the MDC-T and MDC-N leaders must have known that the 2013 constitution was weak; after all Mugabe had “dictated” the document, as Paul Mangwana, Zanu PF’s co-chairperson of the parliamentary committee that drafted the constitution, boasted after the March 2013 referendum. Still all the MDC leaders came out is force to suppose the constitution in the referendum. Tsvangirai even claim the new constitution was “an MDC child!”
“Mazivanhu eMDC adzidza kudya anyerere!” (MDC leaders have learned to enjoy the grant train benefits and not rock the boat!) boasted Zanu PF cronies when asked why MDC leaders were not implementing any democratic reforms during the GNU.
With not even one token reform implemented and a feeble new constitution, SADC leaders wanted the 2013 Zimbabwe elections to be postponed in a last minute bid to have the democratic reforms implemented before the election.
“In 2013 the Maputo Summit, in June 2013, before the elections, the Maputo Summit was all about having the elections postponed – the SADC summit. I went there,” Dr Ibbo Mandaza told Journalist Violet Gonda in 2017.
“I was there at the Summit and Mugabe pretended to agree to a postponement of the elections. If you recall, the postponement was based on the need to reform, at least electoral laws, (to be implemented before the elections).
“And after that Summit, Morgan Tsvangirai, Tendai Biti, Welshman Ncube, all of them were called to a separate meeting by the Heads of State of SADC in the absence of Mugabe, that same evening. And they were told; I was sitting there outside the room with Mac Maharaj; they were told ‘if you go into elections next month, you are going to lose; the elections are done’.”
As we know all the MDC leaders without exception participating in the 2013 elections in defiance of the SADC leaders’s advice. And MDC leaders have all been participating in flawed elections since, “so flawed, so illegal, that the only logical step was to withdraw,” as David Coltart confessed in his book.
The 2017 military coup would have been a transformative moment for Zanu PF if the any of the MDC leaders had denounce the coup for what it was – an illegitimate and unconstitutional move. Instead Morgan Tsvangirai and the rest of the MDC leaders came out in support of the coup and even called on their supporters to join the street demos calling on Mugabe to resign.
Many people were surprised that Nelson Chamisa did not demand that Constitutional Court must order the opening of the 12 Polling Station ballot boxes to verify the results. The V11 forms, a summary of the vote count of each candidate, in two or three of these PSs were identical in very respect, same total number of ballots cast, same vote count for each candidate, same spoilt ballots, etc. and most notable of all Mnangagwa had a commanding lead. The only rational explanation was the result was one PS enter twice or three times.
Double entry of the V11 was easy what would not be so easy to do is creating a duplicate PS! Chamisa’s legal team was asked by the Judge why they did not request the sealed ballot boxes from all the 12 PSs to be opened? It turned out that they are the ones who did not want the boxes opened. The gave some feeble excuse!
“MDC vanoziva kuti apa pakasungwa noruwhaya!” (MDC leaders know that there some matters they are not allowed to touch!) boasted George Charamba, Mugabe and now Mnangagwa’s spokesperson, when asked why the opposition has never ever taken Zanu PF to task on any important matter. Never ever!
Each time there is any falling out in the opposition camp the fall guy is always accused having been a Zanu PF agents. When it mattered they all acted as one in not rock the boat, in making sure the untouchables were left untouched, etc. but at every opportune moment they are as keen as mustard to off load all the party’s cases of corruption and incompetence on the scapegoat.
Each time fall guy realises that his/her chances of ever being welcome back in the opposition camp are poor they cross the floor and join Zanu PF. Zanu PF has always welcomed these former opposition leaders after all they did the party a great favour by not rocking the boat, etc. when they could have.
“Kwawabva kanda huyo, kounoenda kanda huyo!” (You should always be careful to make friends where you are going and come from; because you never know!) so goes the Shona adage.
It is no exaggeration that none of Zimbabwe opposition leaders ever dreamt that their political party could ever replace Zanu PF and govern the country alone. The most they could achieve is govern with a Zanu PF offshoot as a partner. And so the opposition has always been cautious never ever to rock the boat, touch the untouchable, etc. to be certain of Zanu PF partners in future.
By failing to implement even one democratic reform the MDC leaders were betraying the ordinary Zimbabweans whoo were risking all to elect them into office for that express purpose. Fortunately for Tsvangirai a company they have always managed to get away with the selling out because most of the masses had no clue what the reforms are much less how they were implemented.
Even to this day, with the benefit of post GNU hindsight, most ordinary Zimbabweans still have no clue what the reforms are. How can they blame MDC/CCC leaders of selling out of something they do not know.
So when it came to betraying the people by selling out on reforms or implement the reforms and rock the boat and upset Mugabe and company. Tsvangirai and company chose to betray the masses because they knew they would get away with it. And so, far at least, povo has never held them to account.
Yesterday it was Obert Gutu and a few others who left the opposition to join Zanu PF. Today it is Mwonzora and Mudzuri. Next year it could be anyone of the remaining leaders, Nelson Chamisa, David Coltart, Tendai Biti, etc.
They will all be welcomed by Zanu PF because, when it mattered, none of the rocked the Zanu PF boat or touched the regime’s untouchables. Of course they knew they were/are betraying the nation to please Zanu PF; they did not care then and still do not care!

The El Nino-induced dry period experienced across Zimbabwe is claiming the lives of livestock especially cattle, whose conditions have deteriorated due to water shortages in the Matebeleland South province.
Matobo district is the most affected area where several villagers claim most of their cattle have died due to drought while others have been trapped in mud at water points, especially in dams.
According to a report released during the weekend by Habaukkuk Trust, the rural communities in Matebeleland South are in distress after water sources and grazing areas have depleted resulting in the death of livestock.
“The prevailing harsh climatic conditions have precipitated an erratic start to the 2023/24 rainy season currently being experienced in most parts of the country.
“Zimbabwe is currently at the peak of the ongoing strong El Nino event which is driving below-average rainfall across much of southern Africa.
“According to villagers from Gohole in Matobo district, the situation is dire as dozens of cattle succumb to the crisis in an attempt to drink water from muddy ponds that are inside the local dam.”
Feluna Ncube, proportional representation councillor for Gohole in Matobo ward 20, told the Habakkuk Trust of the severity of the crisis with no end in sight as the dry conditions are worsening by the day.
“We are receiving daily reports of cattle dying from being trapped in muddy pools of Gohole Dam. As if it’s not enough, some of our cattle are succumbing to starvation as grazing areas have been depleted and we are losing hope by the day,” Ncube said.
The report also stated that villagers from Sigangatsha in Matobo, ward 6, have not been spared from the devastating effects of the prevailing dry weather conditions as they are losing cattle on an hourly basis.
“We are involuntarily slaughtering our cattle everyday, especially the ones in calf. Once a cow in calf drops to the ground, chances of raising it to stand on its feet again are slim and we are left with no option but to slaughter,” Mary Mhlanga, a member of the Habakkuk Trust Community Advocacy Action Team from Matobo ward 6 said.
The report indicated that as a coping strategy, villagers from Madlambudzi in Bulilima ward 11 have since resorted to abstraction to provide their cattle water.
“The livestock situation is critical and we have resorted to watering our livestock through filling up large dishes with water dug from the basin of the dam,” Silindeni Nleya, who is a member of the Madlambudzi Dam committee, said.
The report further stated that Bulilima district has not been spared from the adverse weather conditions that have since claimed hundreds of cattle while the plight of villagers has also been worsened by wildlife raids.
“Hyena invasions are on the rise, compounding livestock losses as the animals are too weak to escape from attacks by these predators.
“The climate change-induced weather phenomena has colluded with worsening economic conditions coupled with a weak climate governance framework much to the detriment of local communities.
“The limited adaptation measures to the climate crisis is threatening to severely affect not only the household economic base but also has ripple effects on the local and national economies.”
Matebeleland South holds a very significant portion of the country’s national herd, hence the need for urgent attention to the crisis, the report added.
A Zanu-PF female provincial member assigned to the Beitbridge West ongoing campaign for the December 9 by-elections died on Saturday due to the heatwave currently being experienced in the border town.
Temperatures in Beitbridge have in the last five days been hovering around 40 degrees Celsius with regular warnings for people to stay indoors and hydrated.
The deceased identified as Sister Moyo Bhebhe was taken to Beitbridge Hospital after complaining that she was not feeling well but died soon after admission, the NewsDay heard yesterday.
The death was also announced in a Zanu-PF WhatsApp group.
“Comrades, this is both painful and energy sapping. We were with this sister in the ward 14 programme in Beitbridge West.
“Yesterday, (Friday) we left her at the command centre. Today (Saturday) we went with her but she appeared unwell. We tried convincing her to remain behind but she insisted on going to the programme.
“When we knocked off, she showed signs of stress and we took her to hospital where all failed with her blood sugar level reported high, above 40. It is too hot here (in Beitbridge),” read the message that was posted in the WhatsApp group on Saturday.
It added: “To us it’s painful but her courage to die on duty is worth all respect. For us who were with her, it has badly impacted on us. But this is a heroine who has gone.”
Zimbabwean political parties are engaged in campaigns for the by-elections triggered by self-imposed Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) secretary-general Sengezo Tshabangu who has recalled lawmakers andcouncillors.
These recalls have triggered by-elections, although Nelson Chamisa, the opposition party president, is battling to block him through the courts.
The deceased was part of the Zanu-PF campaign team dispatched to Beitbridge West where their losing candidate Thusani Ndou faces Morgan Ncube and Blessing Choeni both of the CCC led by Chamisa and Tshabangu, respectively.
Other candidates for Beitbridge West by-elections are Blessing Brendan Dube an independent and Thoriso Moyo, the only female candidate, from Zapu.

By-The Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) candidate for Mabvuku-Tafara Munyaradzi Kufahakutizwi has approached the High Court seeking an interdict for the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission to give him access to the voters roll ahead of the 09 December 2023 by-elections.
This was confirmed by the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) in a statement posted on X. It said:
At Harare High Court, we have challenged ZEC’s refusal to furnish Mabvuku-Tafara parliamentary candidate Munyaradzi Kufahakutizwi for next month’s by-elections, with a polling station-based voters’ roll.
In an urgent court application filed by our lawyer Obey Shava, we asked the High Court to compel ZEC to release and hand over the voters’ roll to Kufahakutizwi within 48 hours.
Our court challenge came after numerous attempts seeking the release of the voters’ roll by Kufahakutizwi, one of the participating candidates in next month’s by-elections, were turned down by ZEC.
By-elections will be held in Beitbridge West, Binga North, Bulawayo South, Cowdray Park, Lobengula-Magwegwe, Lupane East, Mabvuku-Tafara, Mpopoma-Mzilikazi and Nketa constituencies.
CCC won all the nine constituencies in the 23-24 August 2023 general elections. But in October, CCC activist Sengezo Tshabangu recalled the legislators after declaring himself the party’s interim secretary general.
Tshabangu subsequently recalled more MPs and councillors and the number of CCC representatives he has recalled to date stands at 27 MPs, 14 senators, and 69 councillors.
Meanwhile, Tshabangu has since filed an urgent High Court application seeking to bar recalled CCC legislators and councillors who successfully filed their nomination papers to contest in the 09 December by-elections.

Primary and Secondary Education Minister Dr Torerayi Moyo has admitted a failure to curb the widespread abuse of funds allocated under the Basic Education Assistance Module (BEAM). The initiative, aimed at aiding underprivileged learners, has faced challenges as some schools reportedly have all their students benefiting from the grants.
Addressing the National Association of Primary Heads conference, Minister Moyo acknowledged the mismanagement of BEAM funds and concerns over the late disbursement to deserving students. Despite promises to rectify the situation, critics argue that little action has been taken.
The Minister’s declaration to limit benefits to deserving cases and encourage financial responsibility among parents was met with skepticism. The Mutare golden peacock declaration, a collaborative effort to address funding gaps, faces doubt amid the ongoing controversy.
While acknowledging the success in curbing exam leaks, Dr Moyo’s proposed legislation imposing harsh penalties for leaks drew attention. Critics question the effectiveness of punitive measures and call for a comprehensive strategy to address the root causes of fund abuse in educational programs.
As the 34th NAPH conference concluded under the theme “Rising above challenges: Underfunding in education, a challenge to the school head,” concerns persist over the efficacy of government measures in safeguarding education funds and ensuring equitable distribution to those in need.-state media

THE Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (ZESA) has identified medium to long-term measures to bridge the gap between electricity demand and supply currently witnessed.
Power utility, ZESA has attributed the increase in electricity load shedding to subdued generation capacity at Kariba South Hydro Power Station.
ZESA Executive Chairperson, Dr Sydney Gata revealed to ZBC News that Kariba South hydropower station currently generates 300 megawatts against an installed capacity of 1050 megawatts, owing to low water levels in the Zambezi River, which have seen the Zambezi River Authority restricting water allocations for power generation.
The situation is however set to improve during the rainy season.
“Generally power supply in the short to medium term will continue to be a challenge. The predominant factor here is the hydrology of the Zambezi River which seems to be affected by climate change.
“We have 1 050 megawatts of installed capacity at Kariba South. We have been directed to only use 300 megawatts of capacity which means we have lost 750 megawatts which is 50 percent of the dependable capacity of Zimbabwe’s power,” he said.
The power utility however says it has come up with a contingency plan that will address the power situation in the medium to long term.
“We now have contingency plans made possible, we have already received power station proposals from IPPS who want to finance their own power stations, and coal power base load plants. They will aggregate that to 1600 megawatts. This is because we now have a cost-reflective tariff. We are also sitting on over 100 licences for small renewable energy IPP projects,” said Dr Gata.
The government’s investment in the energy sector has culminated in the construction of Hwange Units seven and eight, which are contributing 600 megawatts to the national grid, while several agreements with independent power producers are also expected to improve the power supply situation.
Warriors’ prospect Michael Nqobile Ndiweni made his debut for Newcastle United in their 4-1 drubbing of Chelsea this Saturday.
The England-born starlet was introduced in the 90 +2 minute mark to mark his first cap in the English Premier League for the senior team.
The youngster was named in the team that hosted Chelsea at St James Park and he was finally rewarded with his first cap later on in the second half, replacing Anthony Gordon.
Ndiweni mainly featured for Newcastle’s Under 21s but trained with the senior team regularly in the past season after displaying exceptional talent.
The teenage striker stole Eddie Howe’s attention after scoring 14 goals in 19 matches for Newcastle’s under-18 squad last term as well as netting in the under-21s’ Papa John’s Trophy.
The forward then penned down a year-long contract extension with the Magpies in June this year.
The promising 19-year-old forward had initially signed his first professional contract at Newcastle United last year after rising through the club’s junior ranks.
Ndiweni, who joined Newcastle in 2016, was born in Throckley, England to Zimbabwean parents and is eligible to play for the Warriors or his country of birth in international football.
Should he decide to play for Zimbabwe, Ndiweni might prove to be the missing link in front of goal for the Warriors.
Ndiweni’s father coaches youth football in Newcastle and his younger brother, Ryan, plays for Newcastle United’s junior ranks.

By- The government has announced that the country only has 25,000 Form One boarding school places available for the 2024 academic year.
This year, about 393 000 candidates sat the Grade Seven public examinations, with most expected to join high schools next year. Grade Seven exam results are set to be released on Friday. An average 100 000 learners apply for Form One places at both public and private boarding schools annually through the Electronic Ministry Application Platform (EMAP). EMAP is an online system that allows Grade Seven learners to apply for Form One boarding school places. The platform was launched by the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education in 2017. In an interview, the ministry’s communications and advocacy director, Mr Taungana Ndoro, said the portal, which opened on November 1, will close on January 15, 2024. Government has already set January 9, 2024, as the opening day for Form One classes at public boarding schools. “All applications will be done through the EMAP system; in the past, there have been challenges, with the system becoming too busy in the last days, resulting in most parents having challenges accessing the network,” said Mr Ndoro. “This time, we have been working round the clock to ensure everything runs smoothly. “However, applications need to be done as early as possible to save ourselves the last-minute rush and challenges.” Once Grade Seven examination results have been released, said Mr Ndoro, the EMAP will be opened for school heads to commence their enrolment. “We have around 25 000 boarding places available for Form Ones for January 2024,” he continued. “However, we have not yet established how many learners have registered on the platform so far.” Mr Ndoro urged parents and guardians to make use of the online enrolment platform. Day school enrolment is also being done online, with the ministry, insisting that parents should make up their minds regarding the applications as the system is not programmed to make changes. He said direct enrolment at schools will not be permitted. “EMAP eliminates any room for corruption; the system was crafted to protect parents because they were being ripped off by corrupt school authorities,” said Mr Ndoro. “Parents, guardians and learners are also warned that they should be sure of the choices they make the first time because there will be no room for them to make changes later. “Parents love the transparency the system provides, but let me hasten to warn that the system is not editable. “Once you enter your (school) preferences, you cannot then come back tomorrow and say I want to make changes on my choice of schools.” The system, said Mr Ndoro, was accessible to everyone regardless of geographical location. “The system is very effective and is accessible to all Grade Seven candidates of 2023, including those in rural areas, who want to enrol for Form 1.”
By- The Nelson Chamisa’s CCC-led Bulawayo city council is luring diasporans to come and invest in the country’s second capital.
Led by the city’s Mayor, Councillor David Coltart, the local authority visited Johannesburg, South Africa, for meetings with Zimbabwean businesspeople who want to start businesses in the city.
This trip was organised by the Joshua Nkomo Foundation’s South Africa chapter (JNFSA), which approached Cllr Coltart to help revive Bulawayo as an industrial centre.
Because of many challenges including water shortages, many companies closed down or moved to other cities. As a result, some of the abandoned buildings were taken over by churches.
The government under President Emmerson Mnangagwa has in the recent past made some effort to restore Bulawayo’s status as an industrial hub, but, a lot still needs to be done in that regard.
Accompanying Mayor Coltart is the City’s business and economic development committee chairperson, Cllr Mxolisi Mahlangu.
In an interview with the Chronicle, Mayor Coltart mentioned that JNFSA informed him about their connections with business people in South Africa, especially those in Gauteng who are Zimbabweans and are interested in investing in Bulawayo. He said:
I responded to that several weeks ago and said we will be happy to go down there and with a limited budget, they are funding the trip. They undertook to buy a flight ticket for myself while I offered to stay with friends in Johannesburg.
It is humbling that people from here who are in the diaspora have not given up on the city and wish to contribute to its further development and stabilisation, it’s very encouraging.
Cllr Coltart mentioned that the meeting will address various issues and develop a plan of action. He expressed his deep honour and gratitude for the personal invitation from the JNF, seeing it as a significant gesture of reconciliation despite political differences. He highlighted his longstanding relationship with the Nkomo family and emphasized the importance of working together regardless of political, ethnic, or racial differences to promote the city’s interests. He also mentioned that Mr. Moyo, accompanying them on the trip, was recommended by the government, and his expenses, along with Mr. Mahlangu, will be covered by the council budget, while the JNFSA covered only his travel costs.
In an X post seen by Pindula News, Coltart said he had met the Mayor of Johannesburg and discussed how the two cities could work together in the future. He said:
I had a highly productive meeting this evening with His Worship the Mayor of Johannesburg Kabelo Gwamanda. We discussed how our two great Cities can cooperate better in future. I have invited the Mayor to visit Bulawayo soon.
The “Meet the Diaspora” initiative by the BCC (Bulawayo City Council) aligns well with the government’s call for diaspora Zimbabweans to invest in their home country. Cllr Coltart emphasized that the city’s immediate need is a reliable water supply for meaningful development. He expressed concern about the water situation and has been advocating for the rehabilitation of the Nyamandlovu aquifer. He appreciated the government’s response to refurbish pumps and electric connections to increase water generation by 15 mega litres. Cllr Coltart also mentioned the importance of expediting the construction of the Glass Block dam in Filabusi, which will significantly improve the city’s water supply by 70%, nearly doubling its daily requirement.

Tragedy Strikes as Elephant Attack Claims Life of Hwange Guard-
A 30-year-old Lydia Dube, a security guard on duty at Chaba Mine in Hwange on Friday, fell victim to a fatal elephant attack. Dube, while guarding a broken-down crane, was ambushed by an elephant lurking unnoticed behind her as she headed towards the guard room.
Despite valiant efforts by her colleagues who discovered her alive but seriously injured, Dube succumbed to her injuries upon arrival at Mpilo Central Hospital in Bulawayo. The incident has ignited concerns over the escalating human-wildlife conflict in the area.
Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (Zimparks) rangers swiftly responded by euthanizing the elephant. Residents in the mining town’s concession areas are now urging authorities to address the growing issue of human-wildlife conflict promptly.
Sources revealed that residents are pointing fingers at mining companies for the surge in such cases. Mr. Micah Ndlovu from Lusumbami Village expressed deep concern, stating, “We are now experiencing more visits by wild animals than before, and we no longer feel very safe.”
Elephants have imposed curfews in various areas, restricting human movements after 6 pm. Some residents criticized Zimparks for inadequate efforts in controlling problematic animals, emphasizing the need for proactive measures to prevent further tragedies.
The Greater Hwange Residents Trust (GWRT) disclosed ongoing engagements with Zimparks, highlighting conflicts over jurisdiction and control. Ms. Sithembinkosi Ndhlovu, a GWRT programs officer, expressed uncertainty about the capacity of both Zimparks and the Colliery to effectively address the issue.
Zimparks spokesperson Mr. Tinashe Farawo confirmed the unfortunate incident, acknowledging its sadness. The incident underscores the pressing need for coordinated efforts between authorities, mining companies, and communities to mitigate the increasing human-wildlife conflict in the region.
TWO armed robbers who also raped some of their female victims have been jailed for 95 years.
McDonald Mutarangani Hukuimwe aged 32 and 28-year-old Trymore Nkomazani who committed a spate of robberies in Harare will spend the better part of their lives behind bars after a Harare magistrate deemed them a threat to society.
The pair did not only commit robbery, but went on to rape their female victims.
For nine counts of robbery, the pair was sentenced to 72 years each and an additional 20 years for rape.
They were also handed another three year jail for malicious damage to property and impersonating a police officer which brings their sentence to 95 years in prison.
The magistrate noted that the pair deserves to be incarcerated as they are habitual offenders who have not shown any remorse.
Earlier this month another robber and rapist Goodwill Mhandu was sentenced to a cumulative 71 years before some were suspended, leaving him to serve an effective 34 years behind bars.
Legal experts believe such deterrent sentences will help scare off would-be offenders. https://www.zbcnews.co.zw/?p=17416
In a heartbreaking incident, a 31-year-old mother from Insuza in Matabeleland North Province has been arrested for infanticide after she allegedly fatally beat her three-month-old daughter with a cooking stick. The incident took place in the early hours of November 20th, when the baby’s cries reportedly triggered the mother, Alice Ncube, to lash out in a fit of anger.
According to Inspector Glory Banda, spokesperson for the Zimbabwe Republic Police in Matabeleland North, the incident unfolded around 4am when the baby’s cries disturbed Ncube’s sleep. In response, Ncube allegedly grabbed a cooking stick and repeatedly struck the infant on the head. The baby’s father, upon waking up, discovered the lifeless body of his daughter cradled in his wife’s arms.
The tragic event has sent shockwaves through the community, prompting Inspector Banda to issue a heartfelt appeal to parents and guardians. He emphasized the importance of respecting children’s rights and urged individuals to seek help for those struggling with mental health challenges.
“We appeal to parents and guardians to consider the rights of children,” Banda stated. “They are also humans, so we must uphold their rights. We don’t have to abuse them. And to family members, if we know that someone is mentally challenged, we must take the initiative to take them to rehabilitation centers like psychiatric hospitals so that they could be helped.”
As investigations into the incident continue, the community mourns the loss of the innocent child and grapples with the devastating consequences of this act of violence.

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena has slammed Bafana Bafana technical for Aubrey Modiba’s injury.
Modiba picked an injury in the just ended FIFA international window.
The defender featured in the nation’s first 2026 World Cup Qualifiers Group C encounter against Benin at home on Saturday before playing the entire 2-0 loss versus Rwanda on Tuesday.
Despite feeling some pain ahead of the second match in Rwanda, Modiba featured for the entire ninety minutes playing on an unsuitable waterlogged artificial turf at Huye Stadium in Butare.
“I’m a bit disappointed because Modiba came back from international break with an injury,” Mokwena said, as cited by IDiski Times, in his Friday’s presser ahead of the Champions League game against Nouadhibou of Mauritania.
“And the information I get is that there was already the pain and he still had to play 90 minutes on an artificial turf like that in Rwanda, with the rain and all of that with an injury.
“Now we might have Modiba out for a little bit more time. Mothobi (Mvala) now comes back also from Bafana with an injury, so that also for me is always a worry because I haven’t had Mothobi Mvala on the pitch today – it was the first session for the Bafana players.”
The gaffer added: “So from a periodization perspective it’s very difficult because we gain some players like Lucas [Ribeiro], Peter [Shalulile] and Sipho Mbule, which is fine but then we also lose some players now with Modiba and Mvala. – Soccer24 News

“The time frame for developing the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup bid has been challenging. This does not diminish our commitment to women’s football, and has instead strengthened our commitment to produce a strong South African women’s team for 2031, and a compelling bid for the same tournament.
“We were very pleased by the support and advice from the Minister and Deputy Minister of Sport, when they encouraged us to work towards preparing a future bid, and in this regard, we felt it was better to regroup and present a well-prepared bid for the 2031 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

EDUCATING the community on the dire effects of the intertwined relationship between animals, humans and the environment was the focal point at the One Health Day commemorations held in Bulawayo this Friday.
The day also highlighted the cohabitation of humans and animals, which has been blamed for the spread of infections and diseases such as the COVID-19 pandemic.
“As we are commemorating this day, we are bringing in stakeholders so that we ensure that we holistically solve this problem. What promotes health is that we need to understand that working together is paramount because most of these diseases emanate from day-to-day interactions between humans and animals,” said Acting Pro Vice Chancellor of Lupane State University, Dr Thulani Dube.
“We are pushing for collaboration between health workers and the community so that we can solve this problem of diseases emanating from the connection between animals, humans and the environment,” said, Senior Lecturer of Lupane State University, Dr Margaret Macherera.
Veterinary expert, Dr Gwinyai Zhandire highlighted the importance of regular animal and human tests to reduce the risk of acquiring infectious and non-infectious diseases.
“We note that most of the diseases that are causing havoc have animal origin hence people need to understand the modalities of transmission of diseases across the species. 80% of global human infectious diseases are from animals, hence it cannot be overemphasised that there is a need for regular tests, surveillance and investigation to prevent future pandemics,” said Dr Zhandire.
The One Health initiative is a collaborative effort meant to address health threats associated with the interconnection between people, animals, plants, and their shared environment.

By Farai D Hove | The AMH Owner, Trevor Ncube has been involved in an embarassing incident-at-the mouth-while-criticising CCC President, Nelson Chamisa.
Ncube was speaking to one of his journalists, Blessed Mhlanga in an interview when he car crashed at the lips.
In the video, he says::
“I said to him- Nelson. If you come up with politics of tribalism of being dictatorial, of having a kitchen cabinet and not listen to anybody I am not going to support you. “
“Oh no mkoma I have learnt and so forth, I am going to listen to what people are saying,” Chamisa replied, Ncube claims.
He continues saying, ” I said I wish you well!”
” And we continued and we invited him for board, dinner, and that kind of stuff but I realized down the line, the young man does not listen to anybody, he doesn’t listen to anybody,” charged Ncube.
He continued piling accusations up to the time when he had a car-accident-at-the-mouth, and instantly chucked out debris-cluster of words of Ncube somewhat actually explosing himself over an attempt to kill Chamisa’s spirit.
“Creating a cross politicisation,” says Ncube, suggesting that Chamisa must contaminate his political DNA so he connects to the ZANU PF bandwidth of morality.
Ncube is a Mnangagwa in law partner in his publishing business, and he is also a former special advisor to the president, who is arguably Africa’s worst tribalism with over 30,000 Ndebeles in the grave because of him, according to historians and analysts.

By- The first President Robert Mugabe’s cabinet education minister Dzingai Mutumbuka, has confronted President Emmerson Mnangagwa over “shocking” corruption in the country.
This was after Mutumbuka, now a senior employee at the World Bank in the USA had nearly lost his Chisipite house after suspected fraudsters, conniving with the Deeds Office in Harare, forged documents to sale his US$140 000 Chisipite house.
Justice Webster Nicholas Chinamora, who resigned last week following corruption allegations, is said to have granted the order for Mutumbuka to vacate his house on a technicality.
The order issued on September 18, 2023, instructed Mutumbuka to vacate the house and assist the purported buyer with the necessary paperwork. Mutumbuka then appealed to the Supreme Court.
The buyer of the house armed with Chinamora’s order sought for Mutumbuka’s immediate eviction. The High Court however, threw out Marange’s appeal yesterday. Mutumbuka said corruption in Zimbabwe was alarming and added that he was able to save his house so far because he is well known and influential.
He felt sorry for poor people who are losing their properties daily with no chance for recourse.
He said he met President Mnangagwa and told him that although he is doing a great deal of work for the country, he will not go far if he doesn’t address the problem of corruption. “I met President Emmerson Mnangagwa and I conguratulated him on his achievements, but I told him he will not achieve much if he doesn’t deal with corruption. “I am known that is why I am able to fight my case in the courts. What about those ordinary men and women in the streets who are not known? They easily lose their hard-earned properties to such fraudsters,” said Mutumbuka. He called upon ZRP to investigate the Deeds Office whose officials he allege, collude with fraudsters to produce fake documents and swindle people of their properties. Mutumbuka was the first Minister of Education and Culture Dzingai at independence. The Mirror understands that two men, Prosper Biziweck (43) and Tatenda “Shaft” Wakatama (44) crafted fake documents and sold Mutumbuka’s house to Marange. The duo which worked with officials from the Deeds Registry was arrested and has since appeared before Harare Magistrate Dennis Mungota. Ironically while they were still appearing in Court Marange approached the High Court and Justice Chinamora ordered (Case number HCH 4912/22) Mutumbuka out of the house. The allegations are that on June 22, 2021, the two, together with accomplices Jonah Ngome, Taurai Makata, Peter Chigayo and Kenias Mutyasira who are still at large forged title deeds of house number 90, Harare Drive, Chisipite in Harare which is registered in Mutumbuka’s name to be in Ngome’s name. Before the trial of the alleged fraudsters was finalised at the magistrate’s court, Marange approached the High Court and obtained the order from Justice Chinamora. Chinamora resigned last week after President Emmerson Mnangagwa set up a tribunal to investigate him. There were allegations particularly reported by Newshawks that Chinamora was not being investigated as recommended because he was receiving protection from Mnangagwa. Sources said the Mutumbuka case is probably the one that eventually led to the resignation of the Judge. The alleged fraudsters are set to appear in court on November 29, 2023.

– International day for the elimination of violence against women!
Nomazulu-Thata
By Nomazulu Thata | CEDAW and the Mirabel sisters
Today we remember the three murdered Mirabal sisters from the Dominican Republic. They were murdered on the 25th of November 1960, because they were fighting for justice. In the Dominican Republic they are seen as a symbol of resistance against the dictatorship. The United Nations (UNO) has therefore dedicated the November 25th to the three sisters. International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women (CEDAW) – a day on which all women and men remember and gather strength to combat discrimination and violence of all forms against women and girls globally.
For all the many years of speeches and thousands of square kilometres of written articles about gender violence, it is still prevalent in global societies. The spotlight must shine on the dark side on how gender violence has ravaged the fabric of our societies globally, especially in the Sub-Sahra continent. The culture of silence in African societies puts the women at a great disadvantage: Under such conditions of concealing gender-based violence, it extends the suffering of women and girl-children in homes.
According to research, gender-based violence serves to perpetuate men-power and control and is sustained by absolute silence.
A “good woman” does not tell she is abused in the matrimonial home.
When women are killed by their intimate friends or partners, it’s only then, one wishes, one could have told it that the woman next door faces gender violence daily from her spouse: too late. Femicide occurs often, is if it’s new normalised event. Previously, any violent interaction from man and woman was said: no interference: it is a domestic affair, and nobody should interfere as a result, women have died in most excruciating circumstances.
World statistics about gender-based violence.
All over the world statistics report that 66,000 women are killed by their husbands or intimate partners sometimes in most brutal circumstances. The Sub-Sahara Africa has the highest rates of femicide cases the whole world! In South Africa every six hours a woman is killed by a husband or a partner or an intimate male friend. Researched reports also say that in Zimbabwe cases of femicide emanate from women who are accused of witchcraft by any member of the family. Some elderly women who may suffer from diseases like dementia go out in the night not realizing that they are undressed. When members of the family see her wondering in her birth suit, the next possible reason why she is walking stark naked is because she is a witch: She gets hacked to death by axes or machetes when such cases are heard by traditional headmen and chiefs. They support this type of killing because witchcraft is still a strong belief in African societies also a lesson to other women how witches are executed.
Even in death, violence against women in Zimbabwe, and elsewhere is ramped.
I have in mind not so long ago, a body of a woman sex worker who was murdered, her body was found alongside the road, was photographed naked, her picture was ditched on social media for all to see. She was a sex worker after all! Her scattered body showed signs of absolute raw violence. “She is a prostitute,” where the comments of her death: she must die at the pleasure of the client she served with her bare body. The man who sexually abused, and subsequently killed her confessed that it was about a dispute over missing money that cost her life. But because the life of a woman in Zimbabwe is cheap, she faced gruesome killing. This story is not a one-off case, but millions of deaths of this nature take place in societies, globally.
If marriages were classified as wars, then the battlefields are the bedrooms!
It is mostly in marriage institutions where horror of death takes place in our society. It is in marriage institutions where women are murdered, denigrated, are insulted, and are called lunatics, because there are no resources in the home to cover the raw poverty smelling at all corners of the home. It is very easy to determine what is right: just get up and run for your life it does not matter what age you are. Do not settle for less because that will cost your life dear sister and daughter and granddaughter.
In those red lights, a woman does not have the dignity worth of a human being. In those decent homes where, young girls are abused in total silence without anybody noticing anything called sexual abuse on under-aged children. It is this absolute destitution of our situation in African societies where women are to bear the brute of violence as the outlet of poverty. It is in dire poverty where young girls must face marriage to elderly men at the age of nine, ten 11, 12 13, and it goes on.
Women and girls experience raw masculine violence daily. They experience physical and sexual violence with fatal consequences: femicide is not a myth. Gender violence is directed against the dignity and self-determination of women, their human rights, physical integrity, and self-assertiveness shaping their lives. Gender violence is a dangerous form of discrimination rooted in sexism, racism, misogyny embedded, fixed, entrenched in patriarchal societies globally. Statistically, women will experience violence from their own families and neighbourhood, the perpetrators are family members at homes.
The 25th of November month is to remember global women killed in most gruesome deaths, mysterious deaths, deaths through masculine violence, and deaths at the hands of dictatorships and chronic wars in Gasa, in Ukraine, in the Congo Democratic Republic, Sudan, and several other war-torn zones in the world. We have deaths caused by neglect, death due to starvation, deaths because frontline services have collapsed: Most countries hospitals are becoming deathbeds because they lack hygienic conditions.
Various forms of gender-based violence Gender violence is a topic that must be loudly spoken about now that we once again recognize the 25th of November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and girl-children. it is a time to galvanize action globally to end violence against women and girls around the Human Rights Day; a moment of activism against Gender-Based Violence Campaign worldwide. Social development and public awareness in line with CEDAW and the Protocol to the African Charter of Human and Peoples Rights on the Rights of Women and girl-children in Africa demands action.
Authors Newman Wadesango, Symphrorosa, Rembe, Uwence Chabaya characterized the most common and harmful gender practices: FGM or Female Genital Mutilation, marriage by abduction, child marriages and virginity tests on girls. How will virginity tests be possible in a society where every 90 minutes, a baby, a toddler, a child a girl, a young woman, a mother a grandmother is sexually mutilated, assaulted, experience sexual violence. It is therefore undeniable that rape is now the culture, an epidemic. Do the virginity testers know these facts on the ground or are they cutting the nose to spite the face?
However, the above authors omitted the commonly practiced violence against women, marital rape by a senior member of the family (perceived father of the clan) in Zimbabwean families. Marital rape is one of the worst forms of violence against women in our societies. It is not easy to recognize it immediately as it is concealed by the two men concerned. How does a young married woman carry herself in the home? This traditional practice undermines the absolute dignity of a newly married bride turning her into a mere object of sex. This traditional practice ignores the dynamic human value that is embedded in every girl and woman: it confines the woman in her words, actions, and movement in the home. What is the uncle and the nephew be saying about her, in their eye-to-eye exchange when the newly married wife moves around in her domestic duties passing them by?
Sex is used as a tool in armed conflicts especially in Africa.
Three Right Livelihood Award Laureates from Africa are speaking out to reverse the current trends of sexual violence on the continent. As the World Health Organization (WHO) reports, “about 1 in 3 (35%) of women worldwide have experienced either physical and/or sexual intimate partner violence or non-partner sexual violence in their lifetime.” The situation is particularly worrisome in Africa, where nearly one in two women (45.6%) has reported intimate partner violence and/or non-partner sexual violence. The first step to countering sexual violence is knowledge, as lawyer and Laureate Jacqueline Moudeina demonstrated when reporting the atrocities committed during the rule of former dictator Hissène Habré in Chad. Rape was one of the crimes that the ongoing trial in Senegal revealed: “One of the hardest, most painful things for a woman is to say, ‘I was raped.’ These women shared details they have not spoken of for more than 25 years. That is courage,” said Moudeina.
Somali Laureate Asha Hagi Elmi, co-founder and Chair of Save Somali Women and Children, fought sexual violence in her country by empowering its women: during the national reconciliation process, she gave life to the so-called Sixth Clan, made up only of female members. As she said: “It has always been the case in all armed conflicts that women and children are the first and last victims of war, though war is neither their desire nor their decision. Women have been killed, raped, tortured and displaced.”
We do remember too, the women who were killed in crossfire war zones. There are women who are accused of deaths of commanders because of their presence in the crossfire. There were women who got killed because they were falsely accused to be collaborators of opposite conflict. We remember the shame using sex that those women must endure because in our culture it’s a woman who is at fault and not the man. We remember women who have been killed because the man thought she was a goblin or a witch. We remember many young women who will forever remain silent from the sexual abuse meted on them because nobody can stand on their behalf and speak out against sexual abuse on women and girl-children.
Female Genital cutting is violence against babies, toddlers, children, and young women.
Hagi Elmi has also been the chair of the Somalia-National Committee on Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and Harmful Traditional Practice, in a country with the world’s highest percentage (98%) of girls and women who have undergone FGM over the past decade. However, it is encouraging that 24 out of 54 countries in Africa have banned FGM by law. At Panzi Hospital, Laureate Denis Mukwege and his colleagues have treated more than 45,000 women who had been raped in the Democratic Republic of Congo. While striving to obtain international recognition for the term rape as a “weapon of war”, Dr Mukwege points his finger at men: “Over the past 100 years, women have fought for and won many rights – there has been huge progress. Now the question must be asked: should men not also make an effort in the 21st century, if only to change their mind-set?”
Although sexual violence and FGM in Africa are far from eradicated, these Laureates prove that it is possible to reverse the trends by working with the media and the international community to shed light on the crimes, and to empower all those women who have chosen to speak up and stand up against these atrocities. Forms of violence against girl-children in our societies!
To be born an African girl-child is courageous if we look at the challenges the girl-child must endure at her formative years. From the onset, an African child is introduced to pain as a virtue: Hard work and pain are implicitly interwoven. This special day of CEDAW brings sad memories; unpacks scars of childhood times. At their formative years, a girl-child endures genital cutting. Some of them do not survive the ritual; they die. At their formative years, a girl-child is sent for marriage: early marriages are not a myth. The girl-child is a human component that squares up debt of the family, she is sent to the debtors’ home to be the slave labourer and automatically becomes the second wife or third wife to the man at home. The girl-children are the ones who are deprived of education in favour of boy-children. It is no surprise that communities remain backward in development when they deprive the very niche that has the potential to develop the entire community and the nation. Let us celebrate CEDAW!
Child prostitution is prevalent in African settings. In the absence of parents who may have perished because of HIV/AIDS, child-headed homes are prevalent in African societies. Girls tend to engage in prostitution to compliment the subsistence living in their homes. The African governments do not recognize street children as vulnerable niche that demand national attention: The number of street children in African societies is horrendous. Let’s celebrate CEDAW!
Child labour is the order of the day in most countries in Africa. The children are made to work in mines, agriculture, in fisheries, in domestic homes for little pay or nothing except food. Girls from poor homes are sent to live with relatives. They are made to work as payment for school opportunities, clothing, and food that is lacking from her biological parents. This is a double bind; how many girl children get pregnant from guardian fathers: they are thrown out of these homes like criminals. The fault is the vulnerable girl and not the male guardian sex advances to the girl. Let us continue to celebrate CEDAW!
Girl-children are subjected to virgin-testing in families even in the second Millennium. When we look at the cases of rape and sexual violence in our societies: the statistics say every 29 minutes a girl, toddler, young women are sexually abused. How is it possible, to still expect girls to remain virgins if the same societies are sexually violent towards them? The selective morality in African communities is the problem: young men are encouraged to have sexual intercourse at early ages of their lives to practice it; but will expect chastity in girls. We shall continue to celebrate CEDAW.
Girl-children are targeted by HIV/AIDS sick men who think they can cure the virus by sexual intercourse with a virgin. Virginity is still present in babies, toddlers and in young girls. There is a growing misconception about rape of young girls that it can cure HIV/AIDS! This HIV/AIDS cure culture of rape has desensitized HIV/AIDS infected men to even rape babies, toddlers, and young girls to get cured. Such cases are common mostly prevalent in Zimbabwe and elsewhere. Let’s continue to celebrate CEDAW.
Domestic violence exposes children in family conflicts. In a feat of rage, when a fight breaks out in the home, homicide is possible: children are victims, dying in crossfire. Children have been killed by partners to punish the other. The children who suffer most are stepchildren who are taken by their mothers to a second marriage; are openly at risk of sexual harassment, physical punishment. Such children live in constant fear of being punished for being born! Girl-children are abducted and murdered in ritual styles. Some are killed and their body parts are harvested for voodoo purposes. Zimbabwe is a nation that prides in high literacy rates the whole of Africa: however, it is inconceivable how this back of beyond beliefs that human body parts can make one powerful and rich! This is out of the realms of good senses. Let’s continue to celebrate CEDAW!
Nobody can understand the thought processes of a mother who give their toddlers to perverse men for sex: like is the case of a woman in Matabeleland/Zimbabwe who gave five-year-old daughter to paedophile for sex. The mother held the hands of her daughter so that the man can freely pleasure himself inside carnal passage of the toddler. The crying of girls during sex act is what arouses and pleasures paedophiles in sex with them. In this case, the womb of the toddler ruptured, she had to get hospital treatment. The medical examination reported the case as “penis penetration that damaged the womb of the child”.!!! This woman is our “Ghislaine Maxwell”, we did not need to go to faraway places to realize that what happened in USA is also taking place in Africa, in Zimbabwe equally.
Are conventions and treaties effectively implemented?
Treaties monitoring violence against women show that it is just the tip of the iceberg, gender-based violence in our global societies is of unimaginable proportions. Do women have certain standards and agreements to combat violence against women that defines a set of minimum standards for the prevention, combating and prosecution of various forms of violence, the protection of those affected and a comprehensive political approach?
Do African countries have institutions that subscribe to international conventions regarding women and girls adhere or undertake to protect and assist victims of such violence. They must also ensure that those affected have access to hotlines, emergency accommodation, medical care, counselling, and legal assistance. All conventions require a monitoring mechanism to ensure effective implementation of provisions by governments and international conventions.
Dreaming about a new deal!
I was reading Christian Korff’s letter he wrote on the 27.2.2003 “I have a dream” (he got this quotation from Martin Luther King II) He talks about a “New deal” We need a new deal he says. In his dream the American President (G. W. Bush) is a visionary, and he will not start the war in Iraq from the conviction that all lives are equally valuable. G. W. Bush is going to say in his last speech: “God bless the World” because all the people in the world are equal and their lives are equally valuable.
In the same vein, and in the same set of values and principles enshrined in all international women’s conventions, I want to dream of the of continent Africa and the world that will look at its better half: (the female gender) as equal and respectful of women and girl-children. I dream that when I turn my Telly, I hear all men of Zimbabwe make a historical pledge to love and respect women of all races and ages and never to inflict harm on them because women and children are the cornerstone of any society in the world. Women and children are valuable in any country. Without women, the world cannot tick.
I am dreaming still of when Zimbabwean men ask: “But what is justice;” said Immanuel Kant? “The source of ethics is the golden rule.” “Do not let anyone abuse you; nobody will tell you what to do to your body, your values, and principles that you strongly believe in as a woman and as a girl. Do not let some father, brother, uncle, male cousin dream your life and dream about how your life should be.” Do not allow anybody to tell you to get married to get respect from your society. You, yourself know better what you want in your life.”” The golden rule is based on the categorical imperative of Immanuel Kant: “Act only in accordance with that maxim through which you can at the same time will that it becomes a universal law.”
Please allow me to dream again just like Christian Korff. I dream of a philosopher born in the African continent, who investigates justice and how just African societies should look like. The African born philosopher tells the African people that his ideas guarantee social justice. Every citizen has the same rights of free thoughts and personal development, freedom of religion, and equal opportunities, irrespective of ethnic origin and social or economic standing. I dream of Africa that makes laws to its citizens and those laws are so ideal that it makes Africa an ideal continent globally: and be an envy to all.
I quote Christian Korff verbatim: “Look at the stars, see the beautiful galaxies, maybe there is only one human consciousness in the entire universe. We have not only a global, but cosmic responsibility to protect the Earth from destruction. Our New Deal must take the environment into consideration so that it is not destroyed.” My answer to this quotation is: Charity begins at home. Before we can address global issues, let’s investigate our painful gender issues in our bedrooms that have turned into battlefields. Let’s dare to confront gender violence, if not entirely eradicated, but minimised as the first step to eradicating it completely from the face of the earth.
The 25th of November is to remember women who died most gruesome deaths, mysterious deaths, deaths through masculine violence, and deaths at the hands of a dictatorship like we have in Zimbabwe. We have deaths cause by neglect, death due to starvation, deaths because frontline services have collapsed, hospitals are becoming deathbeds because of the numerous diseases one gets in clinics and hospitals.
We should never stop to dream just like Christian Korff. We must dream about a new deal. I dream about a new deal whereby all men and women are equal before the law and not by letter but by deeds at homes, in the village in the clan in the nation. I dream of young girls in safe nets environments living and dreaming of a greater future, greater than our own. We should dream of plenty of food and good education and better health for all of us and not only few individuals.
We should dream of women having longer life expectancy and good living conditions with work in abundance. We dream of homes worth of the home to live in and not shake shakes or slums. We dream of Kimberly brick houses so that women are not forever building huts. Above all, I dream of men respecting babies and not sexually abusing them. I can’t stop dreaming, let me just pen off and continue dreaming until I sleep off without dreaming, my death moment!
By- The country’s first education minister at independence, Dzingai Mutumbuka, nearly lost his Chisipite house after suspected fraudsters, conniving with the Deeds Office in Harare, forged documents to sell his US$140 000 house.
The matter is before the courts after Mutumbuka, who is also a senior employee at the World Bank in the USA acted just in the nick of time.
The former Mugabe’s first cabinet minister also has expressed shock at the level of corruption in Zimbabwe, which he said led to the fraudulent sale of his house.
By A Correspondent | Emmerson Mnangagwa’s married girlfriend, Virginia Mabhiza will forever regret the day (20th June 2022) she shoved herself into the Harare magistrates court premises to secretly converse with the prosecutor persecuting the slain mum of two Moreblessing Ali’s lawyer, Job Sikhala.
Is this LIVE karma? – A womens rights organisation is struggling to function for over a week of embarrassing itself incident after incident while trying to defend Emmerson Mnangagwa’s married girlfriend to the point that another institution, the Voluntary Media Council’s senior officers were also caught on camera by ZimEye shifting contradictory statements in the sway of trying to block the ghost (or plight) of the slain CCC mother, Moreblessing Ali, whose lawyer remains in jail for more than a year.
The development began on the 15th Nov, and in the below footage the Voluntary Media Council changes statements about video recordings while holding a hearing in which the Women’s Rights NGO that never criticised Herald, ZBC reports harrassing the slain Moreblessing Ali’s lawyer Job Sikhala and her mourning family, is complaining on behalf of Emmerson Mnangagwa’s married girlfriend who is behind the jailing of Sikhala, (the NGO) saying the ZANU PF leader’s girlfriend was harrassed by an article that criticises her moral values, as the nation’s new Attorney General, who is also responsible for releasing a dangerous armed robber, and constantly turns her back on weaker women like Moreblessing Ali.
The Women’s Coalition Of Zimbabwe, bolted out of the hearing when they said they do not want it to be video recorded, which action denied Zimbabweans the right to witness the ends of their dramatic behaviour which began last week when they sent an army of officers to their first hearing which they also abruptly pulled out of, after changing statements.
On that day, Wed 15 Nov 2023, there was drama at the VMCZ’s Harare offices when a contingent of officers were deployed to the media council’s building to claim that Mnangagwa’s married girlfriend was harrassed in a recent ZimEye story by Dorrothy Moyo, and the large delegation froze in their tracks when Simba Chikanza demanded that the meeting be live streamed.
Simba Chikanza also stressed that the officers be filmed and be name tagged whenever they address the council, at every point.
In what might be a first of firsts in Zimbabwean history, the large delegation from WCOZ is representing the interests of the most powerful woman in government, Virginia Mabhiza who was recently appointed the nation’s Attorney General, a promotion from her previous powerful role as Mnangagwa’s personal secretary at the Justice Ministry.
Soon after Chikanza’s demand that the meeting be recorded since the Women’s Coalition Of Zimbabwe’s complaint was a world wide appeal rather than a VMCZ one, the officers appeared to change tact, and announced that they had come to the meeting not knowing it would be a public hearing.
Chikanza who was flanked by Moreblessing Ali’s sister Tafadzwa, expressed concern saying that the officers were not sincere since they could not have travelled all the way to the VMCZ’s office in Milton Park in their large number to hold a private meeting since the invitation to the meeting was an extention of their own public engagement.
Chikanza also called out the Womens Coalition Of Zimbabwe over their failure to particularise their allegations since their press statement announced the previous Sunday was responded to within hours of its publishing with requests to particularise their allegations.
“There is not even one of these allegations that had been particularised, and how could they have travelled as an army to a private meeting when their press statement is quite public affair?,” Chikanza asked.
ZimEye has evidence that Mabhiza is more than a girlfriend to Mr Mnangagwa, and yet neither the NGO nor Mrs Mabhiza have ever challenged or disputed this evidence.
ZimEye will broadcast the hearings in their entirely. Among all NGOs, it is only the US based Phumulani Minnesota African Women Against Violence that has done broad based advocacy for Moreblessing Ali to the point of donating money for drone technology to search for her remains when the police were doing nothing to find her. Phumulani, led by its Director Comfort Dondo, has also worked to intervene during the moments the VMCZ was trying to block video recordings.
Also attending the meetings was documentary film maker, Caroline Makamache.
The VMCZ’s conduct raises concern as this is not their first hearing that is below human standard. 2 months ago they blocked villagers dispossessed of their land from attending a VMCZ hearing while they allowed headman to threaten violence on journalists in an attempt to reverse a well researched factual story that is based on court rulings finding him (the headman) culpable. This time seeing a case as serious as the Moreblessing Ali one, a news contributor has caricatured the VMCZ calling it: the Voluntary Mafia Council Of Zimbabwe.

Filabusi Magistrate’s Court Grants Bail: Trial Set for December 14, 2023
Ward 17 councillor Sindiso Ndlovu (40) and co-accused Buhle Nkomazana (29) were granted ZWL$500,000 bail each as they appeared before Magistrate Talent Phiri on Thursday. The trial is scheduled for December 14, 2023.
Prosecutor Shepherd Moyo outlined that Ndlovu allegedly stole a cow and an ox from Richard Dube’s farm between November 10 and November 13, 2023. The stolen cattle were reportedly sold to Nkomazana, who used false information on the clearance form.
Police Recover Stolen Cattle at Esigodini Abattoir: Trail of Deception Unraveled
Acting on a tip-off, police traced the stolen cattle to Esigodini Abattoir, where they found hides with Dube’s brand marks. The investigation revealed discrepancies in the clearance form, leading to the implication of Ndlovu and Nkomazana. Accused 3, still at large, also played a role in the clearance process.
Possible Nine-Year Imprisonment: Legal Consequences Loom for Stock Theft Conviction
In Zimbabwe, a conviction under section 114 (2) of the Criminal Law [Codification and Reform] Act, [Cap 9: 23], for stock theft carries a minimum mandatory penalty of nine years imprisonment unless special circumstances apply. Ndlovu and Nkomazana could face severe legal consequences if found guilty.
By A Correspondent- Two Harare men who committed a spate of robberies and rape have been sentenced to 95 years in jail each by regional magistrate Fadzayi Mthombeni.
Macdonald Mutarangani Hukuimwe Alias Wastaki (32) and Trymore Nkomazana (28) were found guilty on nine counts of robbery and sentenced to 72 years each before a 20-year jail term was added after they were convicted of rape.
They were also convicted of impersonating police officers and malicious damage to property which they were sentenced to one year and two years, respectively.
The court heard that on March 22, 2019, the complainants were coming walking along a footpath across Warren Hills when they were approached by the duo.
The convicts masqueraded as detectives stationed at CID Southerton enforcing COVID-19 regulations and arrested the complainants claiming they would take them to Warren Park Police Station. They then raped the convicts on separate occasions along the way before robbing them of other valuables.
Nkomazana was arrested on May 15 last year and was found in possession of a police identity card.
On May 27, an identification parade was conducted at ZRP Southerton and the pair was positively identified.
Police also discovered that the two were linked to several robbery and rape cases reported in Warren Park and Kambuzuma.
By A Correspondent- Gweru, one of Zimbabwe’s heavy industrial hubs continues with its tailspin after Bata Shoe Company retrenched 106 workers on Monday this week.
Bata
Except for Bata, most of Gweru’s industrial area is now a ghost town with large companies like Zimasco, ZimAlloys and even the National Railways of Zimbabwe having closed shop in the last two decades.
Unemployment rate in the country is estimated at 85%.
Bata’s decline is that last episode of the death of Gweru’s once vibrant heavy industry. Gweru and Kwekwe were considered the capital of Zimbabwe’s heavy industry but now they both have none.
Bata Country Manager Simon Mutisya confirmed the development to The Mirror in an interview. He said the shoe company is failing to cope with a huge workforce.
The workers expressed shock and surprise at the move and said that they were caught unawares with no plans for the future. They also said that there were no retrenchment packages for them even though they had served for up to 10 years each
“As you might be aware that some sections of the factory caught fire and might take time to come back on stream. As such some of these sections will be restructured and approximately 10 percent of the workforce ha been affected.
“Approximately 106 workers out of 1200 have been retrenched,” he said.
“We are very disappointed by the development. We weren’t notified about the retrenchment and we don’t have plans as we are approaching a festive holiday.
” The most worrying thing is that we don’t have packages after we worked for more than ten years,” said Michael Sibanda. Mirror
By A Correspondent- A Chipinge pirate taxi driver last week Friday sprinkled some petrol on his ex-girlfriend’s cottage and burnt her and their daughter to death in a crime of passion that has shocked the farming town.
Bright Tawanda Majecha (26) has since been arrested in connection with the murder of Ms Paidamoyo Madondo and her four-year-old daughter, Tawananyasha Majecha, of Gaza E suburb, Chipinge.
Majecha is reported to have attempted to burn Ms Madondo and his daughter on three different occasions prior to last week’s incident.
Tawananyasha was burnt beyond recognition, while Ms Madondo died at Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital on Saturday after being transferred from Chipinge District Hospital.
Ms Madondo’s brother, Blessing Madondo, who was also sleeping in the same cottage, managed to escape through the roof.
He is battling for his life at Chipinge District Hospital after being severely burnt.
Initially, Majecha was charged with a single count of murder and two counts of attempted murder, but the charges were altered following Ms Madondo’s death.
Majecha is now facing two charges of murder, as well as attempted murder charges.
Last week on Saturday, Majecha appeared before Chipinge magistrate, Mrs Catherine Dzivanyika and was remanded in custody to today (Friday) for routine remand.
Prosecuting, Ms Pamela Mufudza said on November 17, around midnight, Majecha went to Ms Madondo’s cottage in Gaza E and demanded to see his daughter, Tawananyasha.
“Ms Madondo refused to open the door, saying it was late. After about two hours, Ms Madondo who was sleeping on a reed mat saw flames under the table. The fire spread all over the house. Ms Madondo and her brother, Blessing, tried to escape, but she failed.
“Ms Madondo managed to open the door, but the floor was slippery and she fell down while holding her daughter. Her daughter was burnt beyond recognition. Blessing managed to break the roof and escaped before shouting for help from neighbours,” said Mrs Mufudza.
Narrating what transpired, witnesses said Majecha tried to burn his ex-girlfriend on three different occasions, before he finally committed the heinous act early Friday morning.
Ms Madondo’s uncle, Mr Gift Madondo said his niece and Blessing were staying together following the death of their mother.
“We are saddened by Paidamoyo’s painful death. She was working hard to take care of her daughter and her brother, Blessing. Paidamoyo was the family’s breadwinner following the death of her mother a few years ago. Majecha had abandoned his daughter and we don’t know what got into him to commit this heinous crime,” he said.
Mr Madondo added: “Paidamoyo and Majecha once cohabitated and they were blessed with a child. They separated and Paidamoyo was now staying with her brother.
“We gathered that Majecha had been told by someone that his ex-girlfriend was staying with her new boyfriend. I think that is what angered him.
“Before the incident, Majecha visited Paidamoyo’s cottage on three different occasions. He would demand that she open the door, but she would refuse. As a family, we hope justice will prevail,” said Mr Madondo.
A neighbour, Mr Never Dhliwayo who was one of the first people to arrive at the scene said it was heart wrenching to see a young soul being burnt to death.
“The incident happened around 1am on Friday morning. Majecha visited Paidamoyo’s cottage with a five-litre container filled with petrol. He sprinkled some of it on the building and poured some through the door and lit it. We arrived late after Paidamoyo’s brother called for help.
“Despite being badly injured, Paidamoyo fought hard to try and rescue her daughter. However, when we arrived, it was too late to save young Tawananyasha. As neighbours, we teamed up and managed to put out the fire,” said Mr Dhliwayo.
The news crew visited Blessing at Chipinge District Hospital on Tuesday but didn’t get a chance to interview him as he was still in a lot of pain.
However, hospital personnel said Blessing’s condition is improving. Manica Post
By- The Roman Catholic Church and villagers in Chishawasha, Goromonzi district, are involved in a land dispute after the church announced plans to evict over 200 families from their ancestral communal land and convert it into a church-run urban settlement.
The villagers have taken the matter to court to seek an order to stop the evictions that will affect seven villages under Chief Chinamora. They want the Jesuit provincial superior of Zimbabwe, Fidelis Mukonori, to transfer the title deeds to them after conducting land surveys.
Mukonori is accused by the ZANU PF leadership of working with high-profile party members who are part of the Catholic Church to unlawfully evict the villagers and divide the land into residential plots for resale, NewsDay reported citing court papers.
The land dispute goes back to the 1890s when the Chishawasha clan, also known as VaShawasha, was forced off the land by white settlers. The land was given to the Catholic Church as a token of gratitude for their support of the Pioneer Column.
The dispute intensified during the time of former President Robert Mugabe when the Minister of Local Government, Ignatius Chombo, ordered the remaining villagers to leave their land. However, there was a faction within the ruling ZANU PF party who disagreed with this decision.
In a letter dated March 9, 2021, the ZANU PF leadership in Goromonzi district accused some government officials of supporting the Roman Catholic Church, causing them to lose political support in the area. Read the letter in part:
The proposed developments in Chishawasha have opened a can of worms and exposed high-profile people as you will find out.
Our Zanu PF party and the residents of Chishawasha need assistance from our leaders of the party since the urbanization issue wasn’t done in good faith.
The Jesuits formed a bogus Chishawasha Development Association as a divide-and-rule tactic, thereby offering a few rich selected residents with 99-year leases. The Zanu PF MP (Phineas Chiota) representing Chishawasha held a meeting with the Jesuits at Garnet House, thereby silencing the eviction issue facing residents around 2006. He instructed the Jesuits to leave the Vashawasha people with their land.
Some ZANU PF officials have accused Fidelis Mukonori of using his influence as a renowned priest and confidante of former President Robert Mugabe to pressure the government into facilitating a land grab. The party alleges that Mukonori colluded with the then Minister of Local Government, Ignatius Chombo, to promote the Greater Harare project, which involved the government and the Jesuits working together.
The ZANU PF leadership claims that Mukonori and Chombo held meetings with village heads, threatening them with arrests for allowing new settlers in Chishawasha. They also accused Mukonori of misleading residents into thinking that the urbanisation scheme was genuine, only for eviction papers to be given to other residents. The local ZANU PF leadership has called on President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government to intervene and halt the evictions. Goromonzi district, known for its proximity to Harare, has been targeted by land barons and politicians for housing schemes.

By James Gwati- Opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), member and activist Tasvika Bwakura is living in fear of his life after receiving death threats from suspected state agents following the death of fellow party member Bishop Tapfumaneyi Masaya who was allegedly abducted while campaigning for recalled opposition legislator Phibion Munyaradzi Kufahakutizwi in Mabvuku-Tafara constituency.
Kufahakutizwi was recalled by self proclaimed CCC Interim Secretary General forcing by-elections in Mabvuku-Tafara and six others constituencies in Bulawayo province.
Bwakura who was part of the campaign team and worked closely with the late Bishop Masaya revealed that since the discovery of the body of the late activist he has been living in fear as he received numerous death threats from suspected state agents.
“Since the discovery of the body of our champion Bishop Masaya whom I worked closely with in campaigning for Honourable Kufahakutizwi who was illegally recalled from parliament, I have received numerous calls threatening my life and my family.
I am now living in fear that what befell our change champion can also befall on me since I was working hand in hand with him,” said the CCC activist.
He added that he has been tailed by unidentified people in unmarked vehicle, which are typically used by the state agents.
“Apart from the numerous calls I have received from unknown numbers, off late I have noticed, white Nissan twin cabs which have been following me.
“And at times they will be two vehicles parked at both ends of the street, which I feel is to intimidate me and discourage me from campaigning for spearheading the change agenda,” he said.
He said his attempts to make a report at local police station had hit a dead end.
“When I tried to make a report, police officers at the station told me that I did not have enough evidence hence they refused to take up my report,” said the activist.
In September this year, Bwakura had his rural home in Buhera torched down and hunted down by suspected state security agents.
Civilian servants are not happy with government splitting payment of their annual bonus into two batches, saying the arrangement was meaningless considering their meagre salaries.
They have been demanding a once-off payment of their bonus in both foreign and local currency.
The State workers have started receiving part of their bonus, with the remainder expected next month.
Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe president Obert Masaraure said the bonus was way below what they used to earn in 2017.
“Before the coup of 2017, teachers were to get bonuses of not less than US$520. It was 100% with the gross income. But now the 100% of the gross income today is way below what teachers used to earn before the coup,” he said.
Masaraure said there was no relief for educators given the split payment of their bonus.
“You cannot be able to keep the US$150 this month waiting for the other US-dollar payment next month. There isn’t much relief that is going to be enjoyed from this particular bonus,” he said.
“It’s very unfortunate that the incapacitation crisis remains unresolved and teachers’ morale will remain very low.”
“Nurses got their bonuses in US dollars. However, the money is not enough. We also urge the government to give us full bonuses. We can’t plan with this meagre salary,” Dongo said.
Zimbabwe Confederation of Public Sector Trade Unions chairperson Cecilia Alexander, however, said civil servants were happy.
“They are happy because this year there has been some improvement. Firstly, all the workers have been treated the same unlike before where some sectors would be paid earlier while others received the 13th cheque late,” Alexander said.
“Secondly, the larger chunk of the bonus is in US dollars so at least it’s better as the majority of their income is not affected by inflation. Government has been very responsible this year and we commend it for the efforts.”
Efforts to contact Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare minister July Moyo for comment were fruitless.
In recent years, government has staggered the payment of the 13th cheque due to lack of funds.
Government and civil servants have been engaged in endless battles over salary and working conditions issues, with workers demanding a pre-October 2018 US$540 minimum salary.
A Zimbabwean man is facing life behind bars for the horrific killing of a disabled barrister who was living rough on Canterbury’s streets.
Sobantu Sibanda, the son of a university lecturer and social worker, was found guilty today of murdering Guy Malbec.
Sibanda, a 28-year-old former financial advisor, had admitted the manslaughter of the 51-year-old but denied murder, maintaining he only intended “some harm” to his victim.
His three co-defendants, Gavin Houghton, Keith Hall and Airidas Sakalauskas were alleged by the prosecution to be Sibanda’s “henchmen” and had “participated in and encouraged” the violent attack.
Guy Malbec was killed in Castle Street car park on Easter Sunday (9 April) 2023, where he had been living in a tent on the lower ground floor for the previous few weeks.
He had a significant leg injury and needed to use a walking frame, stick or wheelchair to get around. Mr. Malbec had qualified as a barrister in 1998, but never practised and moved abroad, only returning to the UK in December 2022, at which point he became homeless.
Sobantu Sibanda attacked the victim, which was witnessed by three other men, Airidas Sakalauskas, Gavin Houghton and Keith Hall. They all knew the victim through a local charity that helps those who are homeless.
Sibanda later told a friend that he found some of his cocaine missing and admitted to attacking the victim, saying he may have killed him. After Sibanda told him this, the man called the emergency services, which led to the discovery of the victim’s body.
Mr. Malbec was left with severe head and facial injuries, broken ribs and a significant brain injury following the attack, in which a hammer and laptop were used. The victim’s blood was found on both items, along with Sibanda’s DNA.
All four men left the scene while the victim was still alive, stealing his phone, bank card and gemstones.
Sakalauskas and Houghton returned many hours later and discovered Mr. Malbec was dead. They returned that evening with Sibanda to remove and dispose of more than 80 items, including weapons used in the attack and blood-stained bedding. These were later found in council bins.
The fourth defendant, Keith Hall, deleted messages and call logs, which showed contact with Houghton before and after the attack, in order to conceal evidence.
Rachael Savage from CPS South East said: “This was a horrendous and brutal attack, sustained over about an hour, on a man completely unable to defend himself.
“Tragically, the evidence shows that Mr. Malbec was still alive after the group left him for dead and may have survived for a period of time.
“When Sibanda, Sakalauskas and Houghton did eventually return to the crime scene many hours later, instead of calling the emergency services, they cleared up the area to try and remove any trace that they had been there.”
Zanu-PF councillor for Ward 17, Insiza North, Sindiso Ndlovu, has been accused of stealing cattle and selling them to Esigodini Abattoir. Ndlovu (40) and his co-accused, Buhle Nkomazana (29), appeared before magistrate Talent Phiri at Filabusi Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
They were each granted ZWL$500,000 bail and remanded to December 14, 2023.
According to the State papers presented by Shepherd Moyo, Ndlovu allegedly stole a cow and an ox from Richard Dube’s farm.
“Allegations are that on a date unknown to the prosecutor but during the period extending from the 10th day of November 2023 to the 13th day of November 2023, Ndlovu proceeded to Richard Dube’s farm and stole one brown cow with a white bottom and white tail end, branded DAL3K3, and one brindie ox with a spot on the face, dehorned and not branded, and took them to his place of residence where he kept them before selling them to Nkomazana,” Moyo said.
“Accused 3, who is still at large, cleared the stolen cattle using ZRP form 392 serial number 4006573 and he quoted Ndlovu’s brandmark on the clearance form yet the stolen cattle did not have Ndlovu’s brandmark on them. He also indicated on the clearance form that all the stolen cattle had the same earmark yet they had different earmarks.”
The State alleged that Ndlovu then took the stolen cattle to Esigodini Abattoir and sold them.
“The police who were investigating another case received a tip-off that Ndlovu was in possession of some stolen cattle. Upon acting on that tip-off, the police interviewed Nkomazana, who was at Break and Tum Butchery, Nkankezi business center, Filabusi, and he informed the police that he had bought the cattle from Ndlovu and had sold them at Esigodini Abattoir. The police proceeded to Esigodini Abattoir where they recovered hides which had Dube’s brandmarks on them. Onias Dube, the receiving officer at the abattoir, implicated Nkomazana, who in turn implicated Ndlovu, leading to their arrest.”
A specialist neurologist was on Wednesday brought before a Harare magistrate charged with contravening provisions of the Data Protection Act after he was accused of blackmailing a colleague, Andrew Mataruse.
Lennon Tonderai Gwaunza (40), appeared before magistrate Apollonia Marutya who granted him US$100 bail and remanded the matter to January 22 next year for trial.
As part of his bail conditions, Gwaunza was ordered not to interfere with State witnesses and not to post anything to do with the complainant.
The complainant practices clinical neurology and internal medicine and is registered as a specialist physician with the Medical and Dental Practitioners Council of Zimbabwe (MDPCZ).
It is the State’s case that on February 13 2022 at around 18:13 hours, Gwaunza unlawfully and intentionally generated a data message using his email address namely [email protected] with the information suggesting that Andrew Mataruse is not a clinically-trained neurologist.
Part of the email read: “I was volunteering at Pari and I have from immediate effect relinquished that role, so I will be unable to supervise Mushawarima. Secondly, Tawanda Mushawarima is a fully flaged (sic) neurologist who doesn’t need to be supervised by myself or by Mataruse who isn’t a clinically trained neurologist.
“However, council feels it’s in Mushawarima’s interest that he is supervised by someone who has never seen the entrance of a neurology training centre. Please by all means go ahead. I will not be involved in that circus.”
The State alleges that Gwaunza then unlawfully and intentionally shared the email to Julian Mashingaidze (MDCPZ admin staff, julian’@mdpcz.co.zw, Tawanda Mushawarima: [email protected], Josephine Mwatukuya (former MDPCZ registrar) midpcz(@mdpcz.co.zw, Bishop Manyangadze (MDPCZ admin staff),bish(@mdpcz.co.zw and Andrew Mataruse (the complainant): [email protected].
It is alleged that Gwaunza’s criminal intent was to intimidate and harass the complainant to desist from undertaking clinical neurology duties at his surgery in Milton Park, Harare.
Luveve Man Murdered with Stone for Refusing to Share Cigarette In a tragic incident, a man lost his life after being hit on the head with a stone during a disagreement over a cigarette.
The suspect, Takunda Mandizvidza, 23, from Luveve suburb in Bulawayo, has been arrested for the murder of 25-year-old Adam Chigwedere.
Bulawayo province’s acting police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele, shared details of the incident with CITE.
The unfortunate event occurred on Tuesday evening at approximately 6 pm.
The situation unfolded when Chigwedere visited his friend in Luveve. Upon discovering his friend in the company of others, including Mandizvidza, Chigwedere asked Mandizvidza for a cigarette.
However, Mandizvidza refused, sparking a heated argument.
The disagreement escalated, leading to Chigwedere physically assaulting Mandizvidza with a punch to the mouth.
In response, Mandizvidza, in a moment of rage, grabbed a stone and struck Chigwedere on the forehead, causing him to lose consciousness.
Mandizvidza then fled the scene. Chigwedere was quickly taken to Mpilo Hospital, where he was admitted.
Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday.
The police have since arrested Mandizvidza in connection with the incident.
In another unfortunate incident, Alice Ncube (31) was arrested by police in Lupane in connection with infanticide.
Police allege that Ncube hit her three-month-old daughter several times on the head with a cooking stick when the infant started crying while she and her husband were sleeping at Village 3A, Deli, Insuza, on 20/11/23, around 4 am.

Former Zanu PF cabinet minister Nyasha Chikwinya is advocating for the legalization of sex work in Zimbabwe.
She believes that legalizing this profession could help address the hidden issues and challenges faced by sex workers.
Currently, Zimbabwe is among the 103 countries where sex work is considered illegal by UNAIDS, leaving sex workers vulnerable to various human rights abuses.
Studies show that sex workers often experience violence from law enforcement, clients, and partners, which increases their risk of HIV transmission.
In Zimbabwe, the prevalence of HIV among sex workers is alarmingly high at 42.2%. Additionally, sex workers encounter stigma and a lack of privacy when seeking healthcare.
Chikwinya made her case during a meeting organized by the Economic Justice Women Project (EJWP), urging policymakers to prioritize the concerns of sex workers.
She highlighted that these individuals play a significant role in preventing marriages from falling apart.
“Our country has come a long way with this matter and what I believe is that if we fail to solve a problem the way we wish there should come a time when we accept what is on the ground. Sex work is reality. It is time a push for its legalization commenced. That way we will be able to protect workers in this category from the rampant abuses they are facing. Many here would also admit that these sex workers are playing a very pivotal role in our society by saving several marriages from collapse. Even if we reach that stage there will still be no problem at all because these sex workers are involved in a trade of selling a product which can still be taken back home in its original state,” she said.
Positive Contributions of Sex Workers to Community Development Beatrice Nyamupinga, legislator for Goromonzi West, echoed support for legalization, emphasizing that it’s the best approach to address the challenges surrounding the secrecy of the sex industry. She noted the positive contributions of sex workers in her constituency towards its development. Added Nyamupinga:
“Continued reluctance to recognize this suppressed but thriving sector continues to cause a lot of problems. In my Constituency at the ShowGround Area I have about four wards with some 300 people and among them are some sex workers who are contributing meaningfully towards the Constituency’s development. So I believe it is time serious debate is ignited on how this trade can be legalized.”
Advocate Thabani Mpofu, one of Zimbabwe’s most prominent lawyers, has ruthlessly torn asunder opposition political activist Sengezo Tshabangu’s case of recalling main opposition CCC MPs, senators and councillors, saying he has admitted that the grounds upon which he stood executing his mission were precariously shaky politically and legally to sustain his disruptive and undemocratic subversion of the people’s will.
Initially, Tshabangu said his mission was to “restore sanity” by addressing impositions of candidates in CCC, particularly Shona candidates in Bulawayo, a mainly Ndebele-speaking city.
However, Tshabangu went further than that recalling MPs everywhere without showing how they were imposed, raising questions about his underlying motives and political agenda.
Mpofu says Tshabangu had no locus standi and jurisdiction in the party where he claims to be an interim secretary-general to begin with, but also did not produced evidence to prove and support various allegations to justify his disruptive recalls.
He only succeed so far largely because the Speaker of Parliament and the High Court, in particular, misdirected themsleves.
In his heads of argument in a Supreme Court appeal against a recent High Court judgement by Justice Munamato Mutevedzi dismissing 14 CCC MPs’ challenge against the recalls, Mpofu asks relevant and fundamental questions which were ignored by the Speaker of Parliament and Mutevedzi in enforcing the recalls by what the legislators have described as an impostor.
Mpofu says Tshabangu admits he he has no political standing to do what he did as he made the recalls as an individual to “restore sanity” in the party and to remove Shona people who were elected MPs in Bulawayo, a mainly Ndebele-speaking city.
In the heads of argument filed on behalf of 14 CCC appellants’ Supreme Court appeal, Mpofu argues that Tshabangu’s case is fundamentally flawed and unsustainable. He says the High Court failed to establish the facts, resolve the root cause of the dispute and uphold the rights of legislators, and ultimately the voice of the electorate.
“It must, if at all, take exceptional circumstances for people’s political choices, constitutionally expressed through a process of adult universal suffrage, to be ignored by anyone, let alone the courts.
Whilst it belongs to political actors to make and score political points against each other, a court of law must, when confronted with a matter, never lose the essence. Regrettably the court aquo completely lost its path and did not consider, that in matters electoral, the voice of the electorate is sacrosanct; that any perceived procedural inadequacies cannot trump the clearly expressed voice of the people, and that for a court of law, there is really no choice between sense and nonsense. A document which is completely dispositive of this matter and appears at record page 165 was not had regard to aquo. The appeal ought to succeed.
The facts necessary to dispose of this matter resolve it without any analysis and are these: “a. Appellants were in August of this year elected as members of the house of assembly on the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC)1 political party ticket. They were sworn in as members of the House of Assembly sometime in September 2023. b. The fourteen never resigned their membership with the CCC neither were they at any point in time expelled. c. On the 4th of October 2023, a few days after they were sworn in, first respondent wrote to second respondent. In that letter he advised that: i. He was the interim Secretary General of the CCC. He did not explain whether he had been voted into office at a congress or otherwise appointed and if so by whom. ii. He had a copy of the constitution of the CCC which he shared with the second respondent. . He did not explain who had authored this constitution or whether it had been adopted by the CCC at any congress or some such gathering. Crucially, there was no reference to whether the membership of the appellants had been acquired and subsequently lost in terms of that constitution. iii. First to fourteenth appellants had ceased being members of the CCC. He did not explain whether such cessation of membership was because of their deliberate acts or the acts of the political party the CCC. iv. That second respondent was as a result asked to proceed in terms of the provisions of the Constitution of Zimbabwe, 2013. Such provisions not having been identified, it is curious why second respondent thought the letter required him to activate the recall provisions. d. At round about the same time, second respondent also received correspondence from Advocate Nelson Chamisa (Chamisa) which advised him that on matters relating to the CCC, he only had to receive and act on correspondence from his office and that the correspondence he had received from first respondent did not reflect the position of the CCC party. Chamisa an officer of the High Court, is the leader of the CCC party, a fact accepted by the first respondent. e. On the 6th of October 2023, second respondent wrote third respondent advising that there were now vacancies in appellants’ constituencies. This triggered an urgent court application filed by the appellants whose dismissal has now led to this appeal. f. On the 11th of October 2023, first respondent issued a statement (at record page 165) in terms of which he explained that: i. The recall of appellants was his own act and not that of the CCC political party. ii. That it had been necessitated by the fact that appellants had in his view, been corruptly elected during the internal CCC election process and that some of them were Shona people in Ndebele territory. iii. That the fourteen had in fact not ceased being members of the CCC party. iv. That Chamisa was the leader of the CCC political party. 1.3 It must take an unfortunate willing suspension of disbelief for anyone to claim, let alone conclude, that honourable members who took oaths of office representing a political party in September had, without being dismissed, renounced such oaths by the 4th of October. It would equally take a cruelty beyond comprehension for anyone to require the masses that queued up for 24 hours in August in order for them to cast their votes to queue up again in December for the same process. At a level that we must all accept; the law is meant to serve the people and meet their legitimate aspirations. The duty to state this is intrinsic in the authority granted the Supreme Court by the people of Zimbabwe. Much is given to this court; justifiably, from it, much is expected. 1.4 The law governing recalls is clear and straightforward. The court below set it out with consummate ease. Section 129(1)(k) of the constitution provides as follows: “The seat of a Member of Parliament becomes vacant (k) if the Member has ceased to belong to the political party which or she was a member when elected to Parliament and the political party concerned, by written notice to the Speaker or the President of the Senate, as the case may be, has declared that the Member has ceased to belong to it. In Madzimure & Ors v Speaker of Parliament & Ors CCZ-8-19 the apex court considered that this provision contemplates and is triggered by, in paraphrase, the following: a. The member should have been sponsored by the political party upon their entry to Parliament. This is indubitably true of all appellants. b. The member should have ceased, as a matter of fact, to belong to the political party that sponsored their entry to Parliament. . Disagreements with that political party or members, real or imagined, do not scale the constitutional threshold. The legality of the process of cessation stands quite apart from the fact of existence of such process Hwende v Speaker of National Assembly & Ors HH-341-21 and Hlalo v MDC-T & Ors HB-98-16. c. Cessation should either be by withdrawal of membership through the act of the member, or via expulsion from the political party through the act of the political party concerned. For this reason, there must be objective evidence of such cessation. Evidence of this kind, on the basis upon which constitutional processes are made to depend must when required be readily produced. The political party should give written notice of the cessation of membership to the Speaker. There is thus need for there to be an act of the political party. This is both a factual and legal requirement. The notice is ineffectual unless and until it is the act of the political party concerned. In this regard there is a difference between the act of a member, real or imagined, of a political party on the one hand and that of a political party on the other hand. e. The notice given by the political party must contain a declaration. There is a difference between notifying the Speaker of the cessation of membership on one hand and declaring that there has been such cessation, on the other. The need for a declaration speaks to the solemnity of the adopted position. The declaration must when evaluated meet the test of being a correct reflection of the situation on the ground- Prebble v Huata [2004] NZSC 29. A notification without a declaration is legally invalid. 1.6 Beyond setting out the law and with respect in less than the detail it merited, the court aquo otherwise did not become engaged with these requirements. That is the bedrock of its many misdirections. It simply did not use the requisite work tools, purposefully given it by the law. 1.7 It is also important to point out that a person or authority seeking the activation of these requirements must comply with them in full. A person cannot activate these requirements unless the person against whom they seek to activate them was: a. A member of the political party concerned upon being elected to office. b. Had as a matter of fact ceased to belong to the sponsoring political party8 c. Such cessation is susceptible to objective proof, that is to say, can be proven either by a resignation or an expulsion. A notice highlighting this objective cessation has been given by the political party and not simply by someone claiming to act on behalf of the political party. e. There is in the notice a declaration bearing on the solemnity of the cessation- Mutasa & Anor v Speaker of the National Assembly & Ors CCZ-18-19 and Khupe & Anor v Parliament of Zimbabwe & Ors CCZ-20-19. 1.8 Thus apart from applying the constitutional standard, the court aquo was required to also apply it in favour of the first respondent if his actions were to pass muster. The standard could not be applied in the air. The court aquo ought to have satisfied itself that first respondent, whoever he is, met the requirements that must be met by a person seeking to activate provisions of section 129(1)(k) before he assayed to do so. Regrettably, the court aquo did not even become engage with this issue. It also ignored the document at record page 165 which was dispositive of the matter. 1.9 In relating to section 129(1)(k), the court must bear in mind that this is a provision that prima facie negates the will of the voter. The will of the voter will only be negated if it was expressed in favour of a scoundrel or a representative who subsequently becomes a scoundrel. Put differently, if people vote for a person who subsequently flies from their colours, the court will allow a political party triggering this provision to negate the will of the voter. If the member has not however, deserted the standard, the will of the voter becomes paramount and remains at all times and for all purposes sacrosanct. For that reason, the court in Madzimure said:
“Section 129(1)(k) of the Constitution is a provision clearly intended to benefit a political party in order to protect it from members who abandon its cause. The provision is meant to avert floor-crossing. It is the political party concerned which is ultimately answerable to the people. The object of s 129(1), as read with s 129(1)(k), of the Constitution, like the antidefectionprovisions of the Tenth Schedule to the Constitution of India, is to preserve and promote democracy. The vacancy is created in a seat of a Member of Parliament, who has ceased to belong to the political party of which he or she was a member when elected, to give the electorate the right to decide in a bye-election whether to give the mandate to represent them in Parliament to the political party concerned or to the same person who lost the seat if he or she stands as an independent candidate or as a candidate sponsored by another political party.
A court of law must therefore not be astute to find that the will of voters stands to be negated. It has an obligation towards the voter. This is because the voter is never party to these proceedings. A compelling case for such negation must therefore be made. If such negation cannot be justified on the basis of the Madzimure standard, then it may not be justified at all. Indeed, a court of law must look with suspicion to an allegationthat a member of parliament, has less than a month of being sworn in under the ticket of a certain political party, ceased to be a member of such political party. This court lives in the real world and indeed section 24(3) of the Civil Evidence Act (Chapter 8:01) enjoins it to take judicial notice of notorious matters known to all.
2.2 Key questions arose on the pleadings aquo. The court aquo did not allow those questions to confront it. In the result, it did not answer them. The result is that it did not exercise its function over and in respect of the dispute that was before it. When a court fails to resolve the dispute placed before it, its judgment must be vacated. When it comes to resolving disputes, the court must resolve the nub of such disputes. It is no use following rabbit holes and fastening attention onto some unedifying aspects of the dispute with the result that the essence is not addressed. It is for that reason that onappeal, this court will interfere not only with the direct dictates of a judgment but also with its effect- Williams & Anor v Msipha N.O & Ors SC-22-109. 2.3 The following key questions arise from the court record: a. When did the appellants cease being members of the CCC party? b. How did they cease being members of the CCC? c. Is such cessation reflected in a document, perhaps a written resignation or expulsion such as would afford objective evidence of the fact? d. Is there a statute on the basis upon which such membership ceased? e. Where does that statute come from? How does it work? Is it that statute that made them members in the first place? What is the effect of the constitution served upon second respondent by first respondent? Is it the one that regulates the question of the membership of the appellants? g. If there is not statute governing the question of the cessation of the membership of the appellants, is there an unwritten process that is known to the CCC party by which the question of cessation of the membership of the appellants is governed? h. Is the first respondent the CCC political party? i. Does the CCC as a political party consider as a matter of fact, that the appellants’ membership with it has ceased? j. In the face of the letters written by Chamisa, how did the speaker conclude that he had a credible position from first respondent? k. Faced with two letters that prima facie say different things, how did first respondent decide which letter he was going to act on? l. In the face of the concession by first respondent at record page 165, was there still a dispute for the court to relate to? 2.4 The provision of answers to all these questions was indispensable to a proper discharge of function in the dispensation of simple justice as between men and men.
Put differently, this matter could not be resolved unless and until these questions were answered. Whether the speaker was also required to answer these questions is irrelevant. At the point of challenge, the court must answer the questions.

By- A Bulawayo’s Njube suburb man lost his car to thieves while he was at his lover’s house in Mzilikazi suburb for an all-night sex romp.
Khaliphile Nyoni (23), drove his Honda Fit to Mzilikazi suburb for a rendezvous with his girlfriend.
“He arrived at his lover’s home at around 10pm and parked his car by the roadside before closing all the windows and locking the doors. He went inside his lover’s home and headed to her bedroom,” said a source close to investigations.
The source further said at around 3am on the following day he woke up to relieve himself in the toilet which is situated in the yard.
“As he was heading to the toilet he looked for his car but he was shocked to discover that it had been stolen. He frantically looked for it but he could not find it and it dawned on him that it had been stolen,” said the source.
He immediately contacted the police at Barbourfields Station to report the theft.
Bulawayo deputy police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele confirmed the incident and appealed for information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects and recovery of the car.
“Anyone who could have information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects and recovery of the stolen vehicle can contact any nearest police station or contact us on 0292 50368,” she said. B Metro
By- A Zanu PF senior official and councillor in Insiza North has been accused of stealing cattle and selling them to Esigodini Abattoir.
According to CITE, Insiza North Ward 17 councillor Sindiso Ndlovu (40) and his co-accused, Buhle Nkomazana (29), appeared before Magistrate Talent Phiri at Filabusi Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
They were each granted ZWL$500 000 bail and remanded to 14 December 2023.
Prosecuting Shepherd Moyo alleged that Ndlovu stole a cow and an ox from Richard Dube’s farm. Said Moyo:
Allegations are that on a date unknown to the prosecutor but during the period extending from the 10th day of November 2023 to the 13th day of November 2023, Ndlovu proceeded to Richard Dube’s farm and stole one brown cow with a white bottom and white tail end, branded DAL3K3, and one brindle ox with a spot on the face, dehorned and not branded, and took them to his place of residence where he kept them before selling them to Nkomazana.
Accused 3, who is still at large, cleared the stolen cattle using ZRP form 392 serial number 4006573 and he quoted Ndlovu’s brandmark on the clearance form yet the stolen cattle did not have Ndlovu’s brandmark on them.
He also indicated on the clearance form that all the stolen cattle had the same earmark yet they had different earmarks.
Moyo further alleged that Ndlovu then took the stolen cattle to Esigodini Abattoir and sold them. He said:
The police who were investigating another case received a tip-off that Ndlovu was in possession of some stolen cattle.
Upon acting on that tip-off, the police interviewed Nkomazana, who was at Break and Tum Butchery, Nkankezi business center, Filabusi, and he informed the police that he had bought the cattle from Ndlovu and had sold them at Esigodini Abattoir.
The police proceeded to Esigodini Abattoir where they recovered hides that had Dube’s brand marks on them.
Onias Dube, the receiving officer at the abattoir, implicated Nkomazana, who in turn implicated Ndlovu, leading to their arrest.
In Zimbabwe, where a person is convicted of stock theft in contravention of section 114 (2) of the Criminal Law [Codification and Reform] Act, [Cap 9: 23], and there are no special circumstances, the court has no choice but to impose nothing less than the minimum mandatory penalty of nine years imprisonment.
By Own Correspondent- Media mogul Trevor Ncube, a former adviser to President Emmerson Mnangagwa, attacked the opposition leader Nelson Chamisa after the CCC President rejected associating with him.
The attack on Chamisa is seen as Ncube’s covert agenda to manipulate opposition leader Nelson Chamisa to benefit the ruling Zanu PF party.
Ncube, who owns Alpha Media Holdings (AMH) alongside Mnangagwa’s son-in-law Gerald Mlotshwa, launched fresh attacks on Chamisa, accusing him of selfish motives.
According to reports from NewsHawks, Ncube has persistently criticized Chamisa, going so far as to label him a tribalist and dictator.
The media tycoon, who presents himself as a neutral political observer, is alleged to be a partisan player with a history of shifting political allegiances from Zapu to MDC, Mavambo/Kusile/Dawn, Alliance for People’s Agenda (APA), and most recently, aligning with Zanu PF.
Ncube’s political manoeuvres are described as opportunistic and self-serving, with critics asserting that his actions lack discernible ideological foundations.
Notably, he is accused of exploiting political transitions, such as the 2017 coup, to further his media business interests and regain influence after losing control of Mail & Guardian in South Africa.
Further allegations suggest that Ncube sought radio and television licenses to expand his media empire while settling a $2 million debt to the Media Development Investment Fund.
The accusations imply that Ncube’s involvement in Mnangagwa’s advisory council was driven by personal gain rather than a commitment to political principles.
Ironically, Ncube has been vocal in his criticism of Chamisa for not heeding his advice during the period when he served as Mnangagwa’s adviser.
However, a closer examination by NewsHawks reveals that Ncube’s claims of engagement with Chamisa are based on a single meeting in 2016.
Chamisa’s advisers assert that this meeting, which centered around the formation of APA, ended on a sour note when Chamisa declined Ncube’s invitation to join the party.
Chamisa’s camp contends that Ncube’s accusations of non-collaboration and dictatorship are unfounded, emphasizing that Chamisa welcomes ideas and criticism from well-meaning individuals.
They dismiss Ncube’s narrative as a malicious campaign and question the credibility of advice coming from a known Mnangagwa ally.
As tensions escalate between Ncube and Chamisa, the opposition leader remains focused on his role as a bona fide alternative to the current leadership, emphasizing the need to address the country’s critical issues collaboratively.

By- Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services has announced that inmates can now be granted temporary absence from prison where they can visit their families back home and come back.
ZPCS says on its Facebook page that this is done in strict adherence to the Prisons and Correctional Service Act and its Mission, which emphasises exercising humane treatment of inmates.
The paramilitary organisation was chronicling a story of one such inmate who was released to attend a funeral.
Below is the unedited text from the ZPCS Facebook page on the story:
The Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service (ZPCS) temporarily released Sibukane Mguni, an inmate, serving 18 months for robbery at Anju Prison Farm in Mat North Province, to allow him time to attend the burial of his wife. The permission to attend the burial was granted in terms of Section 169 of the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service Act which explains provisions of the Temporary Absence of Inmate, and which states that: 1) The Commissioner-General may, subject to such conditions as he or she may specify, grant an inmate permission in writing to be absent from prison or correctional facility under escort for a specified period for personal, family, or other reasons if, in the opinion of the Commissioner-General, the circumstances of the case warrant the granting of such permission. 2) The Commissioner-General shall notify the Minister of the absence of such inmate. Mguni expressed appreciation for being granted the temporary absence from prison. He said, “I am very thankful that I was allowed to say goodbye to my wife and also to see her final resting place. I also got to meet my new baby though it was not a favorable time because of the circumstances. I am now more concerned about the well-being of my children but I know I have the support of my family and they will look after them for me.” The provincial chaplain and the rehabilitation officers promised to make follow-ups on his behalf and encouraged his family to visit him so that he is kept well-informed of how his children are doing . “Attending the funeral is also going to lighten the process of grief for Mguni and it might also be a catalyst that will motivate him to be fully invested in his rehabilitation as he knows that his children await his return and they will need him to work towards their welfare. Social workers will also continue with psycho-social interventions to support and help him cope as he finishes the remainder of his sentence,” said Principal Correctional Officer (PCO) Katsvairo, the provincial rehab officer. It is the view of the ZPCS that attending the funeral allows an inmate to have closure as it assists him/her in dealing with the loss of a family member. Whilst prison inmates are individuals who would have committed crimes, they are still human beings. Therefore, attending funerals is a key element of maintaining family connections and also getting the necessary support for their psychological well-being.

The long drawn out case of Jacob Ngarivhume continues to be a circus at the High Court.
The court seemed to be in no hurry to hear the case in a bid to frustrate him at every sitting. Today was no exception.

Bishops under the Zimbabwe Catholic Bishops Conference (ZCBC) have raised concern over the chaos in opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) that has seen dozens of elected officials being recalled by Sengezo Tshabangu who is claiming to be the interim secretary general of the Nelson Chamisa led outfit.
The recalls that came hardly two months after the August 23 elections, have seen the matter playing out in the courts with Tshabangu so far having an upper hand.
The first leg of by-elections is now set for December 9 to replace the batch of MPs, Senators and councillors who were recalled.
In a Pastoral letter dated November 21, 2023, signed by over seven Bishops praised Zimbabwe for a peaceful election but beamoned pockets of violence manifesting in different forms including the recalls that have crippled the opposition party.
“With the recent political recalls of the elected MPs, Senators and councilors, the nation has been thrust into a new form of violence, people rightfully elected, can wantonly be recalled. It would seem the voices of the people who voted can easily be ignored, as if they are insignificant,” the Bishops said.
“Were those elected not given the mandate by the people? What happens when the people’s voices are silenced by the masters of political expediency? One thing for certain is that people feel they are not respected and listened to. This breeds tensions and many who have no ways of diffusing them boil them up. This is not healthy for people and the society,” the Bishops warned.
The Bishops said Zimbabweans were living in a “wounded” society.
“What is worse is what these recalls have unearthed. Apart from holding all of us in the dreaded perpetual election mode, they have given birth to violence.
Even those who, for a short while, had shunned violence, have fallen back on their default posion of violent campaigns.”
“The past election was indeed different. It was not characterized by violence. That should be applauded. Though this is not to say there was no violence.”
“We had hoped that as a nation we had seen the light and we were beginning to appreciate each other as citizens with divergent views and people of different persuasions, men and women who can rise above their differences. Sadly, as reported by the different election observers, our elections left a lot to be desired. They were characterized by a new form of violence: refusal to let the nation’s voices be heard through the ballot. That act of robbing people of their voices is a form of violence that should be condemned by all people of integrity, by all loving and peaceful citizens.”
The Bishops challenged political leaders to denounce politically motivated violence and implored law enforcement agents to bring perpetrators to book.
