ZEC Hauled To The High Court Voter’s Roll

By A Correspondent- Harare North legislator Allan Markham (CCC) has filed a High Court challenge against the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) seeking to compel it to provide the national voters roll in electronic format.

Zec has been refusing to release the electronic voters roll saying that would compromise the security of its database.

Recently, Zec demanded a staggering US$187 000 from a local independent election watchdog for the release of a hard copy of the voters roll.

In an application filed at the High Court yesterday, Markham cited Zec as respondent.

In his founding affidavit, Markham said during the period February to April 2022, he analysed an electronic copy of the voters roll prepared and released by Zec before the by-elections that took place in March 2022 and noticed several anomalies.

This prompted him to write to Zec drawing its attention to various anomalies on the voters roll, and was advised that the electoral body was in the process of producing an updated version.

 “The electronic form is portable and can be analysed with relative ease, while a hard copy of the national voters roll will be cumbersome to hold (one hundred and eighty-seven thousand pages) and practically impossible to analyse.  In addition, it takes 30 days to print a copy of the hard copy before an applicant who has complied with all the conditions set by the respondent can have it. The choice, therefore, to procure an electronic copy is both borne out of its being more affordable and easier to obtain and analyse,” Markham said.

 “The review of the voters roll also allows citizens to appreciate if any registration potentially violates the principle of one-man one-vote, that is double or duplicate registration. It tells you in combination with other information, such as a census, the general information as to what percentage of eligible people remain unregistered, allows efforts to establish why and how their registration can be facilitated, an important part of the exercise of any citizen’s political rights.”

He said access to the voters roll allowed citizens to exercise their political rights in terms of the Constitution.

 “In order to meaningfully participate in the delimitation exercise, one needs to know the voters roll and where everyone is registered by polling station. Stakeholders cannot be consulted on delimitation if they have no access to a searchable copy of the voters roll so that they can check numbers per polling station and boundaries.

“So the respondent is conducting the delimitation exercise on its own “consulting” with stakeholders who have not seen or accessed the voters roll yet. Put differently, the respondent is purportedly consulting with stakeholders and effecting changes when stakeholders do not have the voters roll. This is meaningless,” Markham said.

He said once a citizen has communicated to Zec and paid the prescribed fee, the electoral management body is obliged to produce the electronic voters roll.

Zec is yet to respond.

Broke NRZ Suspends Urban Services

By- The looted and bankrupt National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) has temporarily suspended the urban commuter train service.

The Parastatal’s spokesperson Andrew Kunambura said in a statement that the suspension was effective from 28 November 2022. 

He said:

The suspension was occasioned by an unsustainable operating environment arising from huge debts owed to NRZ by ZUPCO.

NRZ was therefore left with no option but to suspend commuter trains from 28 November due to capacity challenges.

Normal services will resume once ZUPCO fulfills its obligations as set in the agreement.

The urban commuter train service was launched in partnership with ZUPCO last year to ease congestion in Bulawayo and Harare at the height of the coronavirus crisis. | CITE

Zim Military Shops For Weapons In Pakistan

 By A Correspondent- A high powered delegation of military officers led by Air Force of Zimbabwe  (AFZ) Air Vice Marshall Biltim Chingono was in Pakistan this month to inspect modern aircraft and armaments during a defence exhibition where deals worth millions of United States dollars were sealed, the Zimbabwe Independent can reveal.

Chingono, alongside an elite group of AFZ and Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) officers, were in Karachi between November 15 and November 18, 2022, for the world-acclaimed International Defence Exhibition and Seminar (Ideas).

Over 30 contracts were signed during the exhibition held in the Asian country.

The top global military exhibition, which showcases an array of advanced armaments “provides a perfect interactive platform to defence forces and governments to access the best products and technology to meet their security and defence-related needs,” its website states.

Organised by the Pakistan Defence Export Promotion Organisation, the global arms exhibition has evolved since its inception to be regarded as “an established rendezvous for convergence of international defence exhibitors, delegates, security analysts and top-level policy planners”.

Relating to the Zimbabwean crew which attended the premier global military exhibition, Chingono was accompanied by Air Commodore Pio Maketo among other Air Force officers as evidence gleaned by the Independent shows.

The presence of the Zimbabwean high-level delegation in nuclear-armed Pakistan which neighbours India comes a year after Mnangagwa’s official helicopter crash-landed due to a technical problem while some of the military unit’s aircrafts have been involved in accidents.

Broadly, the accidents have been triggered by hostile weather, technical faults and in some cases human error.

Zimbabwe’s Air Force, widely regarded as one of the best in the region had some of its aircraft damaged and destroyed during the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) war from 1998-2002.

Zimbabwe’s costly intervention in the war as part of Operation Sovereign Legitimacy (Osleg) primarily meant to keep at bay Western-sponsored rebels angling to topple the resource-rich country’s leader Laurent Kabila.

During the Karachi defense exhibition, which was attended by 524 arms manufacturers from 44 countries, which also included China, Russia and Belarus, the Chingono-led team inspected a fleet of JF-17 aircraft and drones, among other armaments that were on display raising expectations that Zimbabwe would soon place orders.

Security and defense sources told the Independent last week that Zimbabwe’s presence at the Ideas expo, which returned after a four year Covid-19 induced hiatus indicated that “Harare’s short-term and long-term plans to steadily improve its aircraft and armaments are in line with modern technological advancements”.

During the highly subscribed military exhibition, the Zimbabwean team also held meetings with the Pakistan Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa.

As first revealed by this publication in 2020, Zimbabwe, reeling from Western-imposed sanctions is now predominantly procuring its armaments from Eastern Europe and countries in Asia including Pakistan.

The United States (US) and European Union (EU) have since 2001 maintained sanctions on the Zimbabwe Defence Industries (ZDI), the country’s arms manufacturer.

To understand whether the Southern African country placed orders to buy armaments from the exhibiting manufacturers and the primary objective of the team’s visit, questions sent to the Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF) Public Relations director Lieutenant Colonel Charles Mutes were referred to the Air Force.

Air Force Wing Commander Donovan Muroyiwa said he was “consulting” when the Independent asked him the same questions.

Questions related to the same subject posed to Defence minister Oppah Muchinguri primarily meant to understand whether Zimbabwe was considering strengthening its fleet of aircraft and armaments by acquisitions were not addressed before going to press.

Questions sent to organisers of the Ideas exhibition in Pakistan also drew blanks.

Leveraging on its motto “Alæ Præsidio Patriæ” which translates to: “Our wings are the fortress of the nation,” Zimbabwe’s Air Force has scored major victories in various missions including Mozambique and DRC. Within Zimbabwe’s borders, it has been deployed to carry out life-saving evacuation operations.

The Pakistan exhibition showcased a wide array of military hardware which was classified in nine (9) distinct groups which included (i) weapons, ammunition, turret, (ii) vehicles, aircraft and drones, (iii)battlefield management, (iv)training and simulation, (v)special equipment and engineering services, (vi) industrial and logistic support, (vii)naval ships and submarines, (vii)industry sectors, (ix) services.

Under the arms, weapons and turrets category, exhibiting firms displayed air defence systems, anti-tank wall breaching systems and close defence weapons while the vehicles, aircraft and drone category showcased main battle tank variants, light armoured and un armoured vehicles and vehicle engines and transmission systems.

In 2019, while on an official visit to Belarus where Zimbabwe reportedly finalised deals worth US$350 million spanning across various sectors, Mnangagwa toured the Volat plant, also known as OJSC MZKT, that manufactures a range of military hardware and directly falls under the State Military Industrial Committee.

At that time, Volat indicated that the President was exposed to a wide spectrum of military hardware.

In October this year, the government took delivery of a specialised medical helicopter and ambulance from Russia, in a diplomatic gesture that demonstrated Harare and Moscow’s solid bilateral ties.

The 2020 Sipri report, which offered a rare glimpse into how Zimbabwe has bolstered its arsenal, highlighted that the southern African country shelled US$647 million from 1980 to 2020 in declared arms purchases.

Strikingly, Sipri’s report shows that the US has not exported weapons to Zimbabwe since the country’s independence in 1980.

The security think-tank’s report indicates that in 2000, Harare took delivery of a fleet of six MI-24P combat helicopter gunships from Russia for US$22 million.

Before 2000, when Zimbabwe still enjoyed relatively cordial relations with the West, Sipri’s report shows that the country purchased six (6) SF.260 jet aircraft from Italy in 1998 and 23 units of Almat APC (armoured personnel carriers) from France in 1996 at a cumulative cost of US$15 million.

“Opposition 4ED” Disintegrates

By A Correspondent- It never rains but pours for MDC-T leader Mr Douglas Mwonzora. The centre is not holding at his party which he unconstitutionally grabbed from Nelson Chamisa with the help of President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Mwonzora managed to capture and occupy Morgan Tsvangirayi House previously known as Harvest House along Nelson Mandela Avenue with the aid of security forces.

Mwonzora lost it when he started having sympathy with Zanu PF. A strong opposition party which is serious of forming the next government should not be found dining and eating with this authoritarian regime if it wants people to take it seriously.

Politics of rational disputation and acrimony which Douglas Mwonzora is trying to introduce to the Zimbabwe’s political hard hat area is not resonating very well with the majority of people who want to see change in Zimbabwe’s political discourse.

The once powerful MDC-Alliance party which was led by the late Morgan Tsvangirayi is at the verge of collapse and in a state of decomposition.

The party was left intact in the hands of young and vibrant Nelson Chamisa and it was performing very well but unfortunately it’s now in its intensive care unit surviving on a life support system with no any hope of resuscitation.

Our modern day Morris Nyathi Mr Douglas Mwonzora would be the books of history of destroying the much formidable political party and had to engrave its political tombstone.

The members are currently not happy with the way he is running this political party. The party MDC-T has lost its lustre and has perfomed dismally under Mr Mwonzora. It is likely that he may also fail to field members of parliament and councillors in this coming 2023 harmonised elections.

Mwonzora knew that he had zero traction but was just after money. It was about sharing the loot that always generated these conflicts they are facing today.

Mwonzora cannot claim to be an official leader of the opposition when he failed to field candidates in the past by -elections previously held and is hearding for a national embarrassment in the next coming 2023 election.

After selling out MDC- Alliance to ZANU PF, the former opposition party has now become a full blown opposition of the opposition than the ruling party.

Mwonzora lacks servant leadership, moral conduct, principles and cannot be trusted with power. He was recently rewarded handsomely with a farm allocation and other freebies. Its not wrong for one to get land but it must not be done to kill democracy and subvert the will of the people. He has sold out the people’s struggle to the highest bidder Zanu-PF.

Douglas Mwonzora is a bogus political misfit, a thief who does not need any introduction to Zimbabwe’s political history. Politics needs a little bit of luck and is a game of numbers.

Come 2023 Mr Mwonzora will not win any seat. Whoever is going to vote for him should have their brains go through a scanning machine. The real race will be between the Citizens Coalition for Change and Zanu-PF.

Killer Soldiers Escape Jail

By- Two ZNA soldiers accused of shooting dead two Mwenezi brothers have been acquitted of murder by Justice Garainesu Mawadze at the High Court in Masvingo.
The soldiers who are based at HQ1 Brigade in Bulawayo and were acquitted on Tuesday are Tapiwanashe Basopo (37) and Collen Ncube (29). They were deployed to Mijingwe Ranch in Mwenezi when the shooting incident happened.
The allegations were that Basopo, Ncube and a third soldier Chrispen Maphosa (30) who is at large were on December 26, 2019 approached by Olman Nyunyana who complained that his brother Ernest had been severely assaulted by three Matarise brothers on Christmas evening.
Basopo, Ncube and Maphosa offered to track and apprehend the accused brothers. Maphosa and Basopo armed themselves with AK 47 rifles and dressed in army regalia. They arrived at Shayamabvudzi Business Centre at around 9 pm and confronted Sifelani who ran home and informed his brothers, Ngonidzashe and Hosiah.
The brothers armed themselves with a knife, machetes, an iron bar, and a screwdriver and went and confronted the soldiers. A misunderstanding arose and the brothers charged towards the soldiers.
Sifelani and Hosiah were then shot dead. Ngonidzashe escaped and filed a Police report. Police teamed up with military Police and arrested the three soldiers.
Four live rounds, three spent cartridges, magazines and two AK47 rifles were recovered.
The State however, said in court that it did not have enough evidence to nail the two and Justice Mawadze cleared them of the charges.
Police are looking for Maphosa after a warrant of arrest was issued by the High Court on March 17, 2022. Justice Mawadze did not clear Maphosa of the charges after noting that the suspect had not reported for work for several months.
Sifelani and Hosiah were shot in the chest and head respectively and they died on the spot.
“The State has indicated that there is not enough evidence to get a verdict and my judgment is as follows. Maphosa remains on warrant of arrest issued on March 17, 2022. Basopo and Ncube are hereby cleared of the murder and any other related charges and are hereby acquitted. The two AK47 rifles being held as exhibits will remain since the State intends to try Maphosa,” said Justice Mawadze.
Justice Mawadze said Basopo and Ncube had religiously attended court hearings and urged them to behave appropriately as members of the uniformed forces.

For-ED Lightning Shows That 2023 Is Already Safely Won By ED, Says Mavaza

It is very true that you can not keep a good man down for long. Many Zimbabweans have learnt that for a country to develop it needs peace. One of the American President Mr Abraham Lincoln warned the South in his Inaugural Address: “In your hands, my dissatisfied fellow countrymen, and not in mine, is the momentous issue of civil war. The government will not assail you…. You have no oath registered in Heaven to destroy the government, while I shall have the most solemn one to preserve, protect and defend it.”Zimbabweans have seen the potential and the actual practice of love of the country by Emerson MNANGAGWA. In support of his vision Zimbabweans of all walks recoil into groups and pledge to serve the country and support the president in their trade and their own way. In order to reach all people at all level groups of organisations became affiliated and pledge their support for the President and the country. The president is not disappointing and is willing to use his charm to defend peace and the law and the nation. His ambition is a little engine that knows no rest.
While Zimbabweans show support of the president by affiliating with the party ZANU PF we have some haters like
INDEPENDENT Norton legislator, Temba Mliswa who has blasted Zanu PF Members of Parliament (MPs) under the MPsforED grouping, arguing some of them could be engaged in these ‘bootlicking’ initiatives to hide their incapacities. Temba Mliswa who himself is reject from ZANU PF has demonstrated that he does not understand why people and groups have formed affiliates to tje ruling party. The groups for ED are showing their confidence in ZANU PF and the president. To that end they rally behind the president and they pronounce their wish to see the Economic Development. Mliswa can be excused for believing that ED means Emerson Dambudzo. It is his wisdom or actually lack of it which makes him think that ED refers to the president.
Mliswa in his ignorance must realise that these affiliates have goals. The goals of these associates in Zimbabwe is to encourage a peaceful, democratic society where the rule of law and human rights are adhered to, laying the foundations for long term sustainable development and economic development. These groupED are movements of true VENE VAYO , The Zimbabweans who Believe in the Country’s Development
Their programmes feeds into Zimbabwe’s National Development Strategy 1 which entails modernization of Zimbabwe’s economy. The Captain of such development is none other than ED the person who is ED the slogan.
For ED groups are for Economic Development organisations that are mushrooming in ‘support’ of President Emmerson Mnangagwa ahead of next year’s general elections.
So far ED MNANGAGWA has built the Party into a strong national organization which renders the opposition harmless. Further, he rallied most of the opposition parties to the national cause.
MNANGAGWA is powered by the blood of those who died for the country. In paying respect t the spirit of patriotism he always remembered that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain–that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom–and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.” President Lincoln.
In his planning for peace, the President is flexible and generous, encouraging the opposition to lay down their unpatriotic arms and join speedily in reunion and Economic Development. It is not a secret that soon we will have CHAMISA for ED. The spirit that guides ED is clearly that of Development hence his name becomes synonymous with Economic Development. With malice toward none; with charity for all; with firmness in the right, as God gives us to see the right, let us strive on to finish the work we are in; to bind up the nation’s wounds and to make the deaths of those who died for the country worthwhile.
It is the developmental charm which ED has which attracts all to form groups with a view of building the country brick by brick.

So all the groups who show their support by being linked to ED are true patriots and those who are angered by such show of unity are pathetic and one day they will come round.
As we approach 2023 we must have all Zimbabwean for ED.

Sikhala Shouts From Chikurubi

By- CCC deputy chairman and Zengeza West MP, Job Sikhala, has written another letter from Chikurubi maximum security prison.

The die-hard politician said he would not be bought by money or be cowed into abandoning the fight for democracy.

Sikhala has been in pre-trial detention at Chikurubi Maximum Security Prison since June this year on allegations of inciting public violence and has been denied bail by the courts more than eight times.
The CCC vice chairman was arrested in the aftermath of violence that rocked the Nyatsime area in June this year following the murder of CCC activist Moreblessing Ali.
In his latest letter from prison shared on social media by his spokesperson, Freddy Michael Masarirevu, Sikhala characterised his imprisonment as persecution.

Reads the letter:
No amount of gold or silver or superlatives will break the solidity of my enduring spirit against all forms of persecution, machinations, plots, and conspiracies against myself. Ask those who know me better.
I urge all of you, dearest compatriots, to also remain resolute and unshaken in light of the vices in our nation. Keep your eyes on the ball.
I find bright spots in my willingness to make sacrifices, even against all forms of adversity. People are not freed by doing nothing but by making selfless sacrifices.
I might be suffering in prison because the precious life of Moreblessing Ali was terminated by those who have arrogated themselves that power, but my ‘persecution’ goes beyond that.
It is, to me, an effort to eliminate me politically and silence us all. Despite the laurel wreath of the present, I am resolute, unmoved, and unshaken here at Chikurubhi Maximum Security Prison.
Great men and women are remembered and counted among the marathon runners of history. The vicissitudes of the present are a test of endurance. I am prepared to run this race to the finish. This, let me emphasize, I am prepared to do.
The great warriors of the world are those not understood by the present but remembered by history in a legacy that will span centuries.
This will be the mark of men and women who are prepared to carry the fight for their ideas and ideals to the end, damn the consequences.
I am embodied by the great observation of the greatest man ever to live. In Africa, the good guys usually lose; they are imprisoned, tormented, tortured, killed, beaten up, or simply beaten down, but they are immortalized by history.
Let them throw me in jail, no matter how insurmountable the situation appears. I see victory all around. We shall be victorious.

Mutare Man Nabbed Over Selling Live Bullets

By- Police in Mutare have arrested a 31-year-old Mutare man for selling live rounds in the streets.

Kudzanai Zvinoera was found with 11 rounds of live ammunition he was selling at Mhaka Shopping Centre in Yeovil suburb of Mutare.

Zvinoera appeared before Mutare magistrate, Langton Carter, and was charged with contravening Section 4 (1)(2) of the Firearms Act, Chapter 10:09 (Possession or acquisition of ammunition without a certificate).

He pleaded guilty to the offence and was fined ZWL$30 000. However, Zvinoera will spend 30 days in jail if he fails to pay the money by 5 December.

Prosecuting, Thurstone Mubvumbi, said Zvinoera was found in possession of 10 live rounds of ammunition and the other round was found at his place of residence. He said:

On November 14, at Mhaka Shops in Yeovil, Zvinoera was found in unlawful possession of 11 live ammunition without a certificate or licence.

On that day, police received information that Zvinoera was selling live ammunition.

Police reacted to the information and found Zvinoera in possession of 10 live ammunition.

He was arrested and taken to his place of residence where another bullet was found in his room.

Zvinoera was asked to produce a certificate or licence authorising him to possess or acquire the ammunition but he failed to do so.

Upon cross-examination, Zvinoera said the bullets belonged to his late father who was an ex-combatant.

He said the bullets were left behind by his father when he surrendered his gun to law enforcement agents some years back.

Zvinoera also said he was jobless and he was trying to raise money for his own upkeep by selling the ammunition. He said:

I am unemployed and was looking for money for my upkeep. My late father owned the bullets. He was a war veteran.

When he was asked to surrender his firearm some years back, he complied but left the bullets at our house.

The bullets have been in our house for decades. I thought I could sell them to raise money for my upkeep.

BREAKING: Horrific Accident in Emmerson Mnangagwa Road

A horrific accident happened Friday night in Harare at corner Samora Machel Avenue and Enterprise Road (now named Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa Road, although noone uses that name). Nickson Mpofu reports how a haulage truck and Toyota Fun Cargo car collided, causing extensive damage and trapping in people.

Chiwenga’s Business Partner Attacked In Prison

By- Vice President Constantino Chiwenga’s business partner Frank Buyanga Sadiqi, has been attacked in Prison.

Buyanga, recently arrested in South Africa for potential extradition to Zimbabwe, has reportedly been attacked in a Johannesburg remand prison by other inmates and is seeking a transfer to another prison.

He was arrested on allegations of kidnapping his son in Harare in 2020, and on charges of contempt of court in Zimbabwe.

He was remanded in custody to Tuesday next week to allow South African authorities to verify his identity documents after it was found Buyanga’s South African identity documents show he was born in Zimbabwe, yet his Zimbabwean passport says he was born in the United Kingdom.

Last week, the Zimbabwean National Prosecuting Authority applied to the High Court in Harare challenging the cancellation of a warrant of arrest for Buyanga, which had been issued by Harare magistrate, Mrs Judith Taruvinga.

He has since appeared before the Randburg Magistrates Court and was remanded in custody for his bail hearing.

Last Monday, Buyanga had his warrant of arrest cancelled at the Harare Magistrates Court after Mrs Taruvinga said she had erroneously issued the warrant of arrest. But Prosecutor-General Mr Nelson Mutsonziwa immediately applied to the High Court challenging the cancellation and cited Mrs Taruvinga and Buyanga as the first and second respondents.

He wanted the High Court to set aside Mrs Taruvinga’s judgment, arguing that the warrant was cancelled without following due processes.

“The court presided over a matter in which it lacked jurisdiction to cancel a warrant of arrest after it had been executed by law enforcement authorities of the Republic of South Africa under an extradition request made to it by the Republic of Zimbabwe.

“There was a gross irregularity in the proceedings or the decision of the court, in that the court perpetuated contempt of court by (Buyanga) by granting his legal practitioner audience in circumstances where the High Court, Supreme Court and Constitutional Court of Zimbabwe, had previously found him to have dirty hands and consequently denied him an audience,” said Mr Mutsonziwa in the application.

Last week, South African lawyer representing Buyanga, Mr Laurence Hodes, called for a speedy bail hearing for his client.

South African media outlet News 24 reported that Mr Hodes told the Randburg Magistrates Court that the warrant executed by Interpol and used for arresting Buyanga on November 10, had been cancelled in Zimbabwe. Mr Hodes claimed he handed over the documents, including Buyanga’s passport, to the South African National Prosecuting Authority. He said Buyanga owns a property in South Africa, adding the defence had attached his visa permits to their affidavit, which would help show that he is not a flight risk and was entitled to bail.

Trainee Doctor Bashes Girlfriend’s Two Side Dishes

A man from Bulawayo, who is also a trainee medical doctor at Mpilo Central Hospital, and suspected his pregnant girlfriend of cheating for some time had his suspicions confirmed in the most dramatic way.

It, however, ended in tears for the two men he busted having sex with his lover at a city lodge and flat respectively.

Prosper Mpofu (27) a part five medical student mercilessly beat up Erick Gumbo from Nkulumane suburb after he caught him red-handed having sex with his girlfriend Abercy “Spongy” Chishapira at a city lodge.

In a fit of anger, Mpofu is also alleged to have threatened to chop off Gumbo’s manhood.

Mpofu also brutally bashed Butholenkosi Gula Ndebele with fists and open hands on the face, chest, neck and back after he also caught him in bed with his lover at his (Ndebele)’s flat in the city.

He went on to hit him with a guitar resulting in it breaking into pieces before smashing his 55-Inch Samsung TV’s screen.

The explosive details of Mpofu’s rampage came to light when he appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Musaiwona Shotgame facing two counts of assault and one of malicious damage to property.

He pleaded not guilty to all the three counts but was convicted due to overwhelming evidence.

On the first two counts of assault Mpofu was fined $70 000 (or seven months in jail). Ten months imprisonment were suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour.

On count three of malicious damage to property he was sentenced to 10 months imprisonment of which five months were suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour.

The remaining five months were suspended on condition that he compensates Ndebele US$1 100 being the value of his property he destroyed when he was beating him up.

In passing the sentence the magistrate took into consideration the fact that Mpofu had “passionately” apologised both to the court and the two victims and that he was also a first offender and a medical student in his fifth year at Mpilo Hospital.

“He is single and engaged to an expecting girlfriend who is in this case at the epicenter of the commission of these crimes. She lured the two complainants for the Biblical fruits of wisdom and was bedded by the complainants.

“The accused was provoked by the conduct of the victims to be seduced by her. He is a first-time offender and is not employed but a student at Mpilo in his fifth year.

“Accused however, took the law into his own hands and invoked violence to resolve a dispute, instead of dialogue. He used severe force to strike the victims with serious injuries. He was supposed to resolve his disputes with his girlfriend other than with the complainants.

“The court will impose a term of imprisonment suspending it on condition of good behaviour and restitution,” argued the magistrate.

In his defence outline which was mostly in dispute, Mpofu stated that Gumbo throttled him and he retaliated. He said he then overpowered him adding that Gumbo was lying against him as punishment for busting him with his “wife”.

Turning to Ndebele, Mpofu said when he found him with his “wife” he grabbed him and they wrestled and in the process Ndebele fell on the TV. He said he slapped him with open hands and when Ndebele attempted to assault him using a guitar he dodged it and it fell and damaged the picture frame. He denied damaging the items as alleged.

The court heard that on 7 October 2022 and at around 3pm Gumbo booked a room at a city lodge in question where he had sex with Chishapira.

It is reported that while the two were in the act, Mpofu barged into the room and started assaulting Gumbo with fists all over the body and he inflicted a deep cut on the upper lid of the eye and bruises.

Mpofu is also alleged to have stomped on him and later pulled out his sexual organ indicating that he wanted to cut it off.

It emerged in court that when Mpofu stormed into the room, Gumbo at first thought it was a ghost which was coming to attack him.

The court further heard that on 10 October 2022, Ndebele met Chishapira in town and took her to his flat where they engaged in sex.

It is reported that while the two were busy enjoying each other, Mpofu barged into the bedroom and started assaulting Ndebele with fists and open hands on the face, chest, and neck and back while accusing him of having an affair with his “wife”.

The daring Mpofu went on to take a guitar which he used to assault him with on the back resulting in it breaking into pieces.

He further kicked his 55-inch Samsung TV causing it to fall to the ground and smash its screen.

The two victims reported the matter to the police and investigations led to Mpofu’s arrest.

The maths do not lie!

By Wilbert Mukori | The Zimbabwe economy has been in decline for the last 42 years, it shrunk staggering 50% in the period 2000 to 2008 alone fuelled by the hyperinflation, that soared to dizzying heights of 500 billion percent, and the collapse of the agricultural sector following the seizure of white own farms to give to Zanu loyalties main. The economy has never recovered.

The root cause of Zimbabwe’s economic meltdown is the gross mismanagement, rampant corruption and the lawlessness, exasperated by the failure to hold free and fair elections which has kept Zanu PF in power all these last 42 years. And for that, Zimbabwe has rightfully earned the pariah state tag.

Zimbabwe’s Minister of Finance has just stagnant economy. Nothing! presented the nation’s Z$4.2 trillion (about US$6.5 billion) 2023 budget most of which is goggled up in wages with very little left to maintain the present infrastructure much less new capital projects. There is nothing in the budget to kick to kick start the economy.

Still, that did not stop Minister Ncube boasting the budget will, “Accelerate Economic Transformation” a term coined by Rodrik as a critical ingredient in generating economic growth that promotes social development and was sustainable, the budget plays a balancing act on pressing national needs and available resources; he explained to the honourable MPs.

Never seen so many blank faces! President Mnangagwa and his Minister Mthuli Ncube insist Zimbabwe is on target to become an upper middle-income nation by 2030, the so-called Vision 2030. Where this is coming from is a
complete mystery, the maths simply do not up!

Vision 2030 says this will be achieved in 8 years not 150 years. As long as Zimbabwe remains a pariah state, the economy will never recover. Never! No national economy can survive much less thrive given such a heavy burden and criminal waste of human and
material resources. It is near impossible to do business in such caustic and chaotic environment.
It is laughable that Minister of Finance makes a big song and dance producing a meaningless budget!
He is no more than a doctor content with treating the patient of minor ailments like flu whilst
ignoring cancer, the real killer!

49% of our people are now living in abject poverty, basic services such as health care and education
have all but collapsed, 60% of our women folk are resorting to prostitution just to survive and 60% of
them are HIV positive, etc. Like it or not Zimbabwe is dying!

We all know the cancer killing Zimbabwe is the corrupt and tyrannical Zanu PF dictatorship. We also know the cure for this political cancer is to implement the democratic reforms and hold free and fair
elections.

The nation had its best chance ever to implement the reforms during the 2008 to 2013 GNU. Sadly,
Morgan Tsvangirai and his MDC friends who were given the task to implement the reforms took their eyes off the ball and failed to get even one reform implemented in five years.

What Zimbabwe needs is another chance to implement the democratic reforms and all it will take is
to deny the vote rigging Zanu PF legitimacy. Zanu PF is rigging these 2023 elections, the regime has
failed to produce something as basic as a verified voters’ roll for Pete’s. How anyone can judge an
election in which there was no verified voters’ roll free, fair and credible; beggars belief.

How anyone would be so foolish as to participate in an election process so flawed and illegal there is
not even a verified voters’ roll beggars belief. MDC/CCC and their opposition friends have been
participating these flawed elections for the same reasons they failed to implement even one reform
during the GNU – greed and breath-taking incompetence.

SADC leaders have endorsed Zanu PF rigged elections as “substantially free and fair” and thus
granting the regime legitimacy, out of spite to punish MDC for failing to implement even one reform
during the 2008 to 2013 GNU. It is absurd to punish a whole nation for the iniquities of the few and
after a decade of punishment, enough is enough.

If SADC leaders rightly condemn the 2023 rigged elections and deny Zanu PF legitimacy; Zimbabwe
will need another GNU. This time we will implement all the democratic reforms, after all it is not
rocket science. This time Zimbabwe will take the cure to end the Zanu PF dictatorship.
After four decades of blundering from pillar to post, Zimbabwe is dying to do something right. Well,
here is the one thing we can do implement the democratic reforms. All we are asking for is for SADC
to stop the madness of granting vote rigging Zanu PF legitimacy. That surely is not too much to ask!

Govt Pampers Security Sector Ahead Of Do-Or-Die 2023 Elections

The security sector, which includes the Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC), Defence and War Veterans Affairs and the Home Affairs ministries were some of the departments that got the largest chunk of the $4,5 trillion 2023 national budget, with $785,8 billion set aside for them.

Announcing the 2023 national budget yesterday at the new Parliament building in Mt Hampden, near Harare, Finance minister Mthuli Ncube allocated $331,1 billion to Defence, $293 billion to the Home Affairs ministry, and $161,7 billion to the OPC, which houses  the Central Intelligence Organisation.

Ncube allocated only $76 billion for the 2023 elections saying this would cater for “the remaining activities covering voter registration, voter inspection, and actual voting exercise.

On Monday, the European Union availed US$5,9 billion for the 2023 elections.

The Primary and Secondary Education ministry got the lion’s share of the budget — $631 billion, followed by Health (473,8 billion) and Agriculture ($362, 5 billion).

In his justification for the generous Defence budget, Ncube said: “The 2023 national budget has set aside resources towards capacitation of the uniformed forces with accommodation, rations and equipment, as well as improve their remuneration; both monetary and non-monetary, in order to fight crime, maintain law and order, as well as general peace and security.”

On war veterans, Ncube said their welfare remains a priority, with the 2023 budget setting aside $46 billion towards their monetary and non-monetary benefits, as well as capitalisation of their companies in mining, tourism, and agriculture, among others.

The security sector has been credited for Zanu PF’s hold on power for the past 42 years.

Ncube said peace guarantees public order and safety, adding that it was critical for the economic development of the country.

He said the increase in the crime rate, ranging from armed robberies, rape to murder, among others, were a cause of concern, hence the need for adequate capitalisation of the uniformed forces.

“The prevailing peaceful environment in the country should be cherished and reflects the bravery and commitment of our men and women in the uniformed forces. Peace and security guarantee public order, safety and is critical for economic development.”

The Home Affairs ministry got $293 billion, which Ncube said would go towards maintenance of law and order, registration and issuance of secure identification documents, as well as migration management.

On the $631,3 billion Primary and Secondary education budget, Ncube said resources will be directed towards increased free education coverage.

For employment costs, Ncube set aside $2,2 trillion, which will include medical aid and pension contributions.

“This amount includes $659, 4 billion and $336,5 billion for salaries and allowances for the education and health sectors, respectively.  The share of employment costs to total expenditure is projected at 52,4% in 2023, an increase from 42,3% in 2022.  The increase in employment cost level is on account of the need to cushion civil servants against the impact of global economic challenges and domestic price increases.”

He said $7,5 billion would be set aside for medical supplies for public hospitals.

For social protection and mitigation of the food deficit, $50,4 billion was allocated, while $195,5 billion was allocated towards devolution.

Former Finance minister Tendai Biti (Harare East MP) said Ncube should have simply presented a foreign currency budget.

[Zimbabwe is in the middle of structural economic crises characterised by poverty, disequilibrium, high inflation, and an exchange rate crisis and total collapse of public services. For the third time in 20 years, Zimbabwe is in the middle of yet another self-induced recession created by high borrowing costs, relentless inflation and a squeeze on government payments to contractors.  An honest budget ought to have been presented in US dollars.  After all, more than half of government taxes are now being collected in US dollars. This would then have allowed civil servants to be paid in US dollars,” Biti said.

He said macroeconomic instability in the country should be resolved by dollarisation.

Buyanga Seeks Transfer From South African Prison

Zimbabwean businessman Frank Buyanga Sadiqi, who was recently arrested in South Africa for potential extradition to Zimbabwe, has reportedly been attacked in a Johannesburg remand prison by other inmates and is seeking a transfer to another prison.

Buyanga (43) was arrested on allegations of kidnapping his son in Harare in 2020, and on charges of contempt of court in Zimbabwe.

He was remanded in custody to today or Tuesday next week to allow South African authorities to verify his identity documents after it was found Buyanga’s South African identity documents show he was born in Zimbabwe, yet his Zimbabwean passport says he was born in the United Kingdom.

Last week, the Zimbabwean National Prosecuting Authority applied to the High Court in Harare challenging the cancellation of a warrant of arrest for Buyanga, which had been issued by Harare magistrate, Mrs Judith Taruvinga.

He has since appeared before the Randburg Magistrates Court and was remanded in custody for his bail hearing.

Last Monday, Buyanga had his warrant of arrest cancelled at the Harare Magistrates Court after Mrs Taruvinga said she had erroneously issued the warrant of arrest. But Prosecutor-General Mr Nelson Mutsonziwa immediately applied to the High Court challenging the cancellation and cited Mrs Taruvinga and Buyanga as the first and second respondents.

He wanted the High Court to set aside Mrs Taruvinga’s judgment, arguing that the warrant was cancelled without following due processes.

“The court presided over a matter in which it lacked jurisdiction to cancel a warrant of arrest after it had been executed by law enforcement authorities of the Republic of South Africa under an extradition request made to it by the Republic of Zimbabwe.

“There was a gross irregularity in the proceedings or the decision of the court, in that the court perpetuated contempt of court by (Buyanga) by granting his legal practitioner audience in circumstances where the High Court, Supreme Court and Constitutional Court of Zimbabwe, had previously found him to have dirty hands and consequently denied him an audience,” said Mr Mutsonziwa in the application.

Last week, South African lawyer representing Buyanga, Mr Laurence Hodes, called for a speedy bail hearing for his client.

South African media outlet News 24 reported that Mr Hodes told the Randburg Magistrates Court that the warrant executed by Interpol and used for arresting Buyanga on November 10, had been cancelled in Zimbabwe. Mr Hodes claimed he handed over the documents, including Buyanga’s passport, to the South African National Prosecuting Authority. He said Buyanga owns a property in South Africa, adding the defence had attached his visa permits to their affidavit, which would help show that he is not a flight risk and was entitled to bail.

ZEC Sued Over Electronic Voters Roll

Harare North legislator Allan Markham (CCC) has filed a High Court challenge against the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) seeking to compel it to provide the national voters roll in electronic format.

Zec has been refusing to release the electronic voters roll saying that would compromise the security of its database.

Recently, Zec demanded a staggering US$187 000 from a local independent election watchdog for the release of a hard copy of the voters roll.

In an application filed at the High Court yesterday, Markham cited Zec as respondent.

In his founding affidavit, Markham said during the period February to April 2022, he analysed an electronic copy of the voters roll prepared and released by Zec before the by-elections that took place in March 2022 and noticed several anomalies.

This prompted him to write to Zec drawing its attention to various anomalies on the voters roll, and was advised that the electoral body was in the process of producing an updated version.

 “The electronic form is portable and can be analysed with relative ease, while a hard copy of the national voters roll will be cumbersome to hold (one hundred and eighty-seven thousand pages) and practically impossible to analyse.  In addition, it takes 30 days to print a copy of the hard copy before an applicant who has complied with all the conditions set by the respondent can have it. The choice, therefore, to procure an electronic copy is both borne out of its being more affordable and easier to obtain and analyse,” Markham said.

He said the voters roll was the first port of call for all citizens who needed to understand the composition of the electorate and know how many people are registered, and where they are so registered.

 “The review of the voters roll also allows citizens to appreciate if any registration potentially violates the principle of one-man one-vote, that is double or duplicate registration. It tells you in combination with other information, such as a census, the general information as to what percentage of eligible people remain unregistered, allows efforts to establish why and how their registration can be facilitated, an important part of the exercise of any citizen’s political rights.”

He said access to the voters roll allowed citizens to exercise their political rights in terms of the Constitution.

 “In order to meaningfully participate in the delimitation exercise, one needs to know the voters roll and where everyone is registered by polling station. Stakeholders cannot be consulted on delimitation if they have no access to a searchable copy of the voters roll so that they can check numbers per polling station and boundaries.

“So the respondent is conducting the delimitation exercise on its own “consulting” with stakeholders who have not seen or accessed the voters roll yet. Put differently, the respondent is purportedly consulting with stakeholders and effecting changes when stakeholders do not have the voters roll. This is meaningless,” Markham said.

He said once a citizen has communicated to Zec and paid the prescribed fee, the electoral management body is obliged to produce the electronic voters roll.

Zec is yet to respond.

Magistrate Announces Mahachi’s Son Wasn’t Burnt While Doctors Prove The Opposite

By State Media/Agencies | In the face of confessions by his own son plus medical confirmation paperwork, warriors footballer Kuda Mahachi was yesterday acquitted of two separate counts of attempted murder by Bulawayo regional magistrate Mr Mark Dzira.

Mahachi was facing two counts of attempting to kill his son.

The footballer however breathed a sigh of relief after Magistrate Dzira said the State failed to prove the essential elements of the case while the evidence given by the witnesses was contradictory and disjointed. 

Allegations against Mahachi were that on a date unknown to the prosecutor but between 25 February and 14 April 2022, Mahachi assaulted his son with an iron bar on the head and mouth.

He was also alleged to have poured hot water all over his body before assaulting him with a charger cable all over the body.

Presenting his judgment, Magistrate Dzira said the complainant gave contradictory statements during cross examination. He further said other witnesses who testified also gave inconsistent testimonies and it was difficult to ascertain who was lying and who was telling the truth.

The magistrate further said the medical experts could not figure out the cause of the injuries hence the dismissal of the case and acquittal of Mahachi. But another story tells a different version of events. Journalist Ezra Sibanda says the 4 year old son has 3rd degree burns and doctors have confirmed injuries are results of burns from hot water. The injuries according to health experts were between 6 and 8 weeks old by May this year judging from the way the wounds were infected.

The child was admitted to Mpilo hospital on the 20th of April.

The 4 year old left Zim on a flight from JMN Nkomo Airport, fit and strong accompanied by an adult using Zimbabwean passports on the 25th of February 2022. Checking with the Beitbridge and Botswana Border posts and also Bulawayo airport, there is no report of the child re-entering Zimbabwe. In the system it only shows that the child left Zimbabwe and accordingly he should still be outside Zimbabwe. The child is now in Zimbabwe which confirms his mother Maritha Ndlovu is correct that the child was “smuggled” back to Zimbabwe. The mother also said she picked the child from Mahachi’s grandmother without a passport when she was called to come to Cowadray Park to take her sick son to hospital on the 19th of April.

Social services visited the mother and child at the hospital to take reports and the case was reported to the police on the day the child was admitted.

The interview of the child in which he confirms he was beaten up and poured hot water by the father Kuda Mahachi, is available as an exhibit.

The child didn’t say anything about the step mother but insisted he was beaten by a phone charger and poured hot water by the father.

Despite the mother sleeping on the floor in Hospital and praying to get her son better, she was served with a letter from the so called lawyers of Mahachi threatening to sue her and demanding that she retracts her statements from the press.

UNCONSTITUTIONAL: Legal Think Tank Dismisses Proposed Electoral Amendments

Legal think-tank Veritas says some of the proposed amendments to the Electoral Act violated the Constitution.

In its latest Election Watch report which scrutinised the Electoral Amendment Bill, Veritas said while it is claimed that the purpose of the Bill is to align it with the Constitution, it fails to serve that purpose.

The gazetted Bill seeks to amend the Electoral Act (Chapter 2:13), and proposes the removal of the driver’s licence as proof of identity for electoral purposes; and to disqualify previously convicted persons from contesting in elections.

It also provides a timeframe within which a candidate may withdraw from contesting in National Assembly or local authority elections.

“It fails in its purpose of aligning the Electoral Act with the amended Constitution, even assuming that the constitutional amendments are valid, and some of its provisions actually violate the Constitution.  Perhaps more consultations with political parties and civil society when the government was drawing up the Bill would have helped remove some of its defects,” Veritas said.

“More consultations might have also resulted in a Bill that addresses some real issues of concern, such as strengthening the independence of the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec), and ensuring the registration of all citizens eligible to vote, including prisoners and members of the diaspora.”

It said the Bill failed to introduce transparent procedures for the preparation and distribution of ballot papers, and ensuring that the public news media give fair and equal coverage to all political parties contesting in elections.

“In the wake of the recent visit by a delegation to assess if Zimbabwe is eligible for readmission to the Commonwealth; the first of the values listed in the Charter of the Commonwealth is democracy. The inalienable right of individuals to participate in democratic processes, in particular, through free and fair elections is missing.  The Bill does little or nothing to uphold that value,” Veritas said.

Sikhala Goes After ‘Biased’ Magistrate

Citizens Coalition for Change Zengeza West legislator Job Sikhala, who is accused of inciting public violence, has filed an application seeking recusal of presiding magistrate Tafadzwa Miti.

Sikhala is jointly charged with Godfrey Sithole (Chitungwiza North MP).

On Wednesday, Sikhala appeared before Miti, and was denied bail.

Through his lawyer Jeremiah Bhamu, Sikhala said the application for recusal emanated from the bail ruling she delivered against him.

“Sikhala is saying he cannot receive a fair trial,” Bhamu said.

He said Sikhala would submit a written application on Monday next week, while the State elected to respond on November 30 and the defence will replicate on December 1.

The State represented by George Manokore and Ephraim Zinyandu said the application fell within their rights, and they would wait for them torespond.

Miti postponed the matter to December 7 for ruling.

Sikhala and Sithole are accused of inciting violence in Nyatsime at the funeral wake of CCC activist Moreblessing Ali, who was murdered in a cold blood by suspected Zanu PF member Pius Jamba.

Ali’s dismembered body was found in a pit close to his alleged killer’s homestead.

Malawi’s VP Arrested

Following a 5 month build up period, Malawi’s Anti-Corruption Bureau has arrested the country’s Vice President Saulos Chilima over corruption allegations, it said on Friday.

5 month ago, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) submitted to President Lazarus Chakwera a progress report investigating Chilima’s links to a Malawi-born British businessman, Zuneth Sattar.

Following the revelation, Chakwera suspended all delegated duties to his vice, with other reports indicating that the Malawi Congress Party was drafting a Private Members’ Bill to commence Chilima’s impeachment procedures.

Chilima is accused of accepting money and other items in exchange for awarding government contracts, the ACB said in a statement.

The vice president would be taken to court where he is expected to be charged with three counts of corrupt practices by a public officer, among other charges, the corruption watchdog added.

Footage from local media showed supporters of Chilima and the police seemingly in a scuffle as he was being taken into court for the formal reading of charges.

“I have no comment to make. We will let the court process run its course,” Chilima told reporters outside court after being granted bail, according to media.

The ACB statement said Chilima was rewarded for assisting Xaviar Limited and Malachitte FZE, two companies linked to British businessman Zuneth Sattar, to win contracts.

The watchdog has been investigating Sattar and other public officers in Malawi over alleged plundering of state resources by influencing awarding of contracts through the country’s public procurement system, it said.

The ACB arrested Chilima “on allegation that between March 2021 and October 2021, he received advantage in form of money” amounting to $280,000 and other items “from Zuneth Sattar as a reward”, its statement said.

In August, the Financial Times reported that Sattar was under investigation by the United Kingdom’s National Crime Agency (NCA) over alleged abuse of Malawi’s public procurement system. He had not been charged with any offence and denied wrongdoing, the report said.

NCA did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Friday, and Sattar could not be reached, the Reuters news agency said.

Earlier this year, Malawi’s President Lazarus Chakwera dissolved his entire cabinet on charges of corruption against three serving ministers. Several ministers and former ministers have already been arrested in connection with this case, in which 53 public officials have been accused of receiving money from Sattar between March and October 2021.

In June this year, Chakwera stripped Chilima of all powers after the latter was first named in corruption allegations by the ACB. According to Malawi’s constitution, the president could not suspend or remove Chilima because he was an elected official. -Aljazeera/Agencies

Gonyet Runs Over 9 Beasts

4 families in Lupane’s Chimwara resettlement area are counting losses after a haulage truck hit and killed nine herd of cattle in a freak accident near Halfway Hotel along the Bulawayo-Victoria Falls road.
The accident happened on Wednesday evening.

It involved a Botswana-registered truck that was carrying coal going towards Bulawayo and a herd of cattle that was crossing the road.

Kusile Rural District Councillor for Chimwara ward 25 Kawulani Muzamba said some of the victims lost all their cattle.

“There was an accident where some people lost cattle which died following an accident that happened yesterday near Halfway Hotel. The truck hit 11 cattle and nine died while two are in a bad condition and

there is no hope for life for them,” said Cllr Muzamba.

She said the loss was unbearable for the families.

Alois Tshuma lost three beasts and two were injured while Busani Nyathi lost one.

Jeffrey Ncube’s only two beasts died while Joshua Hlabangana had three of his cattle killed by the accident.

“We wish there could be help for them,” said the councillor.

She said the owners ended up disposing of the meat and carcasses cheap price to avoid further loss to wildlife scavengers and decomposition.

O’Level Pupil Arrested for Raping 14y Old

A Form three pupil from a Tsholotsho school has been arrested for raping a schoolmate, police confirmed.
The suspect, whose name was withheld for ethical reasons, allegedly dragged the 14-year-old Form one girl into a storeroom and raped her once before fleeing from the scene.

The complainant narrated the ordeal to the school matron who then reported the matter to the police.

Matabeleland North police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Christopher Mahohoma said police managed to arrest the suspect who was released into the custody of the school head as investigations continue.

“Police in Tsholotsho has arrested a form three male student (17) on 21 November 2022 in connection with a case of rape where a female juvenile (14) was raped.

“On the 19th day of November 2022, the victim went into her form one classroom looking for her missing Ndebele textbook. She found the suspect seated on top of a desk alone and did not mind his presence as she continued with the search of her textbook,” said the police.

It is alleged that during the process the suspect stood up, grabbed the girl by her T-shirt and dragged her into a classroom storeroom which was not locked where he then raped her once.

After the act, the suspect fled from the scene.

The incident comes in the wake of a number of cases of sexual abuse of minors in most cases by adults, some of them relatives.

One of the cases is that of a Tsholotsho nine-year-old girl who recently gave birth in Bulawayo after falling pregnant under unclear circumstances as the person responsible is not yet known. -CITE

ZNA Soldiers Acquitted

Two ZNA soldiers, accused of shooting dead two Mwenezi brothers have been acquitted of murder by Justice Garainesu Mawadze at the High Court in Masvingo.

The soldiers who are based at HQ1 Brigade in Bulawayo and were acquitted on Tuesday are Tapiwanashe Basopo (37) and Collen Ncube (29). They were deployed to Mijingwe Ranch in Mwenezi when the shooting incident happened.

The allegations were that Basopo, Ncube and a third soldier Chrispen Maphosa (30) who is at large were on December 26, 2019 approached by Olman Nyunyana who complained that his brother Ernest had been severely assaulted by three Matarise brothers on Christmas evening.

Basopo, Ncube and Maphosa offered to track and apprehend the accused brothers. Maphosa and Basopo armed themselves with AK 47 rifles and dressed in army regalia. They arrived at Shayamabvudzi Business Centre at around 9 pm and confronted Sifelani who ran home and informed his brothers, Ngonidzashe and Hosiah.

The brothers armed themselves with a knife, machetes, an iron bar, and a screwdriver and went and confronted the soldiers. A misunderstanding arose and the brothers charged towards the soldiers.

Sifelani and Hosiah were then shot dead. Ngonidzashe escaped and filed a Police report. Police teamed up with military Police and arrested the three soldiers.

Four live rounds, three spent cartridges, magazines and two AK47 rifles were recovered.

The State however, said in court that it did not have enough evidence to nail the two and Justice Mawadze cleared them of the charges.

Police are looking for Maphosa after a warrant of arrest was issued by the High Court on March 17, 2022. Justice Mawadze did not clear Maphosa of the charges after noting that the suspect had not reported for work for several months.

Sifelani and Hosiah were shot in the chest and head respectively and they died on the spot.

“The State has indicated that there is not enough evidence to get a verdict and my judgment is as follows. Maphosa remains on warrant of arrest issued on March 17, 2022. Basopo and Ncube are hereby cleared of the murder and any other related charges and are hereby acquitted. The two AK47 rifles being held as exhibits will remain since the State intends to try Maphosa,” said Justice Mawadze.

Justice Mawadze said Basopo and Ncube had religiously attended court hearings and urged them to behave appropriately as members of the uniformed forces.

Lightning Kills Two In Harare

Two male adults from Harare were this week struck dead by lightning bolts in separate incidents, as this year’s rain season got off to a tragic start.

The deceased have been identified as Leonard Matipano (33) of Belvedere and Phillip Chiundudzi (43) of Waterfalls.

Police confirmed the incident.

“The ZRP reports two sad incidents in which two people died after being struck by lightning in Harare.

“On November 22, 2022, Leonard Matipano (33) died on the spot after he was struck by lightning while sowing maize seed in the field at an open space near Ridgeview, Belvedere, Harare,” said ZRP spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi in a tweet.

Similarly, on the same day, Phillip Chiundudzi (43) and Prosper Chiundudzi (27) were struck by lightning while hiding from rain in a shed at Habakkuk Church, Retreat Park, Waterfalls.

Phillip died upon admission at a local hospital, while Prosper is admitted at the same hospital where his condition is reportedly serious.

Majority Of Sex Workers Are HIV Positive: Study

Centre for Sexual Health, HIV and Aids Research (CeSHHAR) says more than 57% of female sex workers in the country’s 22 hotspot areas are HIV positive.

The revelations follow another study by the National Aids Council (Nac), Health and Child Care ministry and Zimbabwe Civil Liberties and Drug Network, which stated that Harare is the biggest red-light district with a high rate of sex workers at 36,07%.

Indications by the Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency are that women constitute the biggest number of unemployed people in the country at 59,6%.

Most women are now resorting to sex work to make ends meet.

Speaking yesterday on the sidelines of an HIV symposium organised by Nac, CeSHHAR statistician Sungai Chabata said the HIV prevalence rate was high among teenagers aged 16-19 years.

“HIV prevalence is high among sex workers in Zimbabwe, and it’s estimated at 57% and it rises with age. One of the studies that we have done demonstrated that HIV prevalence can be about 2% among 16-year-olds, and rises steeply to 22% among 19-year-olds, which is an indication of high incidence which is estimated to be ranging from 4% to 10%, which is rather five times more than in the general population,” Chabata said.

As a result, Chabata added that CeSHHAR has begun an education campaign, meant to enlighten sex workers on pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), and other means to help prevent HIV infections.

“We have started a programme that focuses on sex workers. We have people going around giving out the message of PrEP and other means. We conduct community mobilisation meetings and night outreaches.”

Chabata called for HIV targeted interventions, to help reduce the prevalence of HIV in the hotspot areas.

“If we know most of the problems faced by sex workers, then we can be able to come up with interventions. The main problem faced by sex workers now is poverty and financial strains,” Chabata said.

Data from the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/Aids shows that around 5 500 young women aged between 15 and 24 globally, are being infected with HIV weekly.

Mnangagwa Traps Teachers

Unemployed teachers are reportedly being coerced to attend Zanu PF’s Herbert Chitepo School of Ideology by the Teachers for Economic Development (ED) for orientation so they could secure employment in the public sector.
Sources in the civil service said the TeachersforED group was targeting qualified, but jobless teachers for recruitment.

“Teachers for Economic Development is now playing a key role in recruiting teachers across the provinces. They are targeting mostly qualified teachers without jobs and they are first told to attend the Chitepo School of Ideology,” said a source.

“They are targeting provinces and all provinces have responded to the recruitment drive.”

A TeachersforED official, who only identified himself as Masekesa, yesterday defended the Zanu PF indoctrination exercise.

“I don’t think there is anything wrong with unemployed teachers going to Chitepo School of Ideology, even journalists can attend. This is practised even in Japan and America,” Masekesa said

TeachersforED national chairperson, Amon Chiwocha, was not reachable for comment.

Primary and Secondary ministry spokesperson Taungana Ndoro, said he only spoke for teachers who are employed by the government.

“If there are those who are not employed with us, we don’t speak for them because they will be employed somewhere and if they are employed with us we will be able to speak for them. If the Teachers for Economic Development have some initiatives, it’s a noble idea,” Ndoro said.

Educators Union of Zimbabwe president Tapedza Zhou called on political parties to respect the Constitution and statutes governing the civil service which bar civil servants from acting in a partisan manner.

“Recruitment of teachers has nothing to do with partisan and ideological orientation. It’s not without reason why a teacher should be non-partisan. Insisting that someone has to join a certain political party as a precondition is constitutionally and morally wrong,” Zhou said.

Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe president Obert Masaraure said the initiative would divide teachers and condemned the politicisation of the civil service.

He said: “Our civil service should serve all people impartially. For efficiency civil servants should be recruited on merit not on partisan basis. Taxpayers deserve the best service from those employed in the civil service.

“The government should focus on strengthening the teacher training programme so that it produces more competent teachers who meet the expectations of the 21st century. We condemn the politicisation of the civil service as this compromises service delivery, divides civil servants and causes disharmony.”

The Teachers for (ED) union is reportedly storming schools countrywide to mobilise support, disrupting learning at some institutions. It is also holding midweek workshops at schools, with some said to have taken place at learning institutions in Zvishavane, Bulawayo and Marondera. -Newsday

Hon Biti accused the Zanu PF leader of destroying the principles and components of nationalism.

Zimbabwe has been reduced to a mere teapot – shaped country without unity, love and freedom, according to Hon Biti.

“Our Change Champion, Hon #BitiTendai has responded to the State of the Nation Address (SONA) by Mr Mnangagwa.

He says it is out of touch with the current situation in Zimbabwe,” CCC said in a brief statement on Thursday.

Ghana coach Otto Addo believes the penalty awarded to Portugal in the two teams’ World Cup 2022 Group H clash, which ended 3-2 in favour of the Euro 2016 champions, was a gift.

With the contest goalless just after the hour mark, Mohammed Salisu was adjudged to have fouled Cristiano Ronaldo in the box and American referee Ismaeli Elfath awarded a penalty to Portugal.

Despite the decision being a contested one, the referee did not consult the video assistant referee (VAR) and Ronaldo stepped up to score his 118th international goal —becoming the first player to score at five different World Cup finals in the process.

Addo though, was not happy with the decision and said it was incorrect.

“It was really a wrong decision. We played the ball. I don’t know why VAR didn’t come up. There is no explanation for me,” Addo said in his post-match interview.

“The referee was not in our favour. If somebody scores a goal, congratulations. But this was really a gift.
“I think you have to ask the referee. I have no proof of that. We were playing the ball and then there was contact.

The Borussia Dortmund assistant coach said he even approached officials from FIFA to seek clarity from the referee, to no avail.

“I tried and asked some people from FIFA if I could speak to the referee in a calm and quiet way. They said he was in a meeting and not possible,” said Addo.

Kadoma Man Killed Over Sadza

A KADOMA man struck and killed his colleague following an argument over sadza.

Police said the murder occurred on Wednesday at Machokoto Compound, Hazel Mere Farm, Patchway.

The suspect, Farai Hlongwani-Mlilo (27), is on the run.

“The suspect, Farai Hlongwani-Mlilo hit the victim, Milton Gido Siziba (38) with a log twice on the head following an argument over sadza.

“The victim died on admission to a local hospital.

“The suspect is on the run.

“Anyone with information to contact any nearest police station,” the police said.

Chakwera Throws Deputy Under The Bus

By-Malawi’s Vice-President Saulos Chilima has been arrested on allegations of accepting a bribe from a government contractor.

According to Malawi’s Anti-Corruption Bureau, Chilima accepted $280 000 (£230 000) from a British businessman “and other items” in exchange for awarding government contracts.

The contracts related to armoured personnel carriers, food rations, and water cannons.

Chilima has appeared in court but has not commented on the charges.

In June, he was stripped of his powers when he was first accused by the Anti-Corruption Bureau.

Chilima faces six charges relating to corruption.

The British businessman, named as Zuneth Sattar, was arrested in the UK in October last year and is now on bail. He denies the allegations.

Sattar is accused of using connections with senior Malawi government officials and politicians to fraudulently obtain contracts to supply goods and services.

Ramaphosa Fights For Mnangagwa

By-The South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has told Britain to lift sanctions on Zimbabwe.

Ramaphosa said the British monarch and government must facilitate Zimbabwe’s re-admission to the Commonwealth and remove sanctions imposed on the country.

Ramaphosa was in the United Kingdom recently where he met King Charles III and the newly elected Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

The South African leader said it was important for Zimbabwe to be readmitted to the Commonwealth, a political association of 56 member states, the vast majority of which are former territories of the British Empire. Said Ramaphosa:

The Zimbabwe issue inevitably always comes out in meetings like these because we are talking here with the country that is like the head of the Commonwealth and we advocate for Zimbabwe to be readmitted to the Commonwealth; it is important.

Zimbabwe withdrew from the Commonwealth under then leader, the late Robert Mugabe in 2003, after it had been suspended from the group over alleged human rights violations.

Since the 2017 military coup that ended Mugabe’s 37-year reign, Zimbabwe has been seeking to rejoin the association.

Recently, a Commonwealth delegation headed by Luis Franceschi was in Harare to assess progress made by the country in readying itself to rejoin the grouping.

Meanwhile, Ramaphosa also reiterated his call for Britain to lift the sanctions it imposed on Zimbabwe saying they are also hurting South Africa. He said:

The sanctions that have been imposed on Zimbabwe have a collateral impact, a negative impact on us as South Africa because the Zimbabwean economy is weakened.

Zimbabweans flow to our own country and exacerbate the challenges that we have regards to unemployment and health services.

Sikhala Challenges Trial Magistrate

By- Coalition for Change (CCC) vice chairman Job Sikhala, is demanding the recusal of Harare Magistrate Tafadzwa Miti, who is presiding over his trial.

Sikhala is accused of inciting public violence that rocked the Nyatsime area in June this year following the murder of CCC activist Moreblessing Ali.
He is jointly charged with Godfrey Sithole, who is out on bail.
Sikhala was on Wednesday denied bail by Miti, who said the Zengeza West MP was arrested 63 times before and was therefore an incorrigible and unrepentant person, without respect for the law.
This is despite the fact that the Sikhala was never convicted on all of his previous arrests.
Sikhala and Sithole’s trial was supposed to start on Thursday, but the former, who is in pre-trial detention at Chikurubi Maximum Prison, raised concerns resulting in the case being rolled over to 7 December for a ruling. Sikhala lawyer, Jeremiah Bamu:
We are aware this matter is scheduled for trial commencement. However, we have instructions to seek recusal of the magistrate from this matter.
This is respectful because of the apprehension that the accused may not receive a fair trial if proceedings were to continue before you.
Bamu said he will submit a detailed written application by Monday next week.
Meanwhile, Sithole said he will abide by the decision of the court as recusal does not affect him.

Gongeti Kills 11 Cattle

By- A long-distance coal-laden Botswana-registered haulage truck ploughed into eleven 

herd of cattle and killed nine of them on the spot.

The incident happened near Halfway Hotel along the Bulawayo-Victoria Falls road on Wednesday night.

The truck was going towards Bulawayo and a herd of cattle that was crossing the road in Lupane’s Chimwara resettlement area.

The cattle belonged to four families, and according to Kusile Rural District Councillor for Chimwara Ward 25 Kawulani Muzamba, some of the victims lost all their cattle. Said Muzamba:

There was an accident where some people lost cattle which died following an accident that happened yesterday near Halfway Hotel.

The truck hit 11 cattle and nine died while two are in a bad condition and there is no hope for life for them.

Alois Tshuma lost three beasts and two were injured while Busani Nyathi lost one.

Jeffrey Ncube’s only two beasts died while Joshua Hlabangana had three of his cattle killed by the accident.

The councillor said the owners of the beasts ended up selling the meat and carcasses at giveaway prices to avoid further losses to wildlife scavengers and decomposition.

Tinashe Sambiri|CCC vice president Hon Tendai Biti has described Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa’s State of the Nation Address as empty and void of logic.

Hon Biti accused the Zanu PF leader of destroying the principles and components of nationalism.

Zimbabwe has been reduced to a mere teapot – shaped country without unity, love and freedom, according to Hon Biti.

“Our Change Champion, Hon #BitiTendai has responded to the State of the Nation Address (SONA) by Mr Mnangagwa.

He says it is out of touch with the current situation in Zimbabwe,” CCC said in a brief statement on Thursday.

Kanye West Says He Is Running For US Presidency In 2024

Rapper Kanye West has said he intends to run for US president in 2024, despite facing several scandals over his recent behaviour.

The star, who has legally changed his name to Ye, posted a video of his campaign logo to social media, alongside the caption Ye 24.

He also claimed to have asked Donald Trump to be his running mate.

West previously ran for president in 2020, but that campaign flopped, attracting a meagre 70,000 votes.

His latest claims came in a video posted after West was spotted at Trump’s Mar-A-Lago golf club earlier this week, accompanied by Nick Fuentes, a prominent white nationalist.

West said his request for a running mate left the former president, who recently launched his own re-election campaign, “most perturbed”.

In a video titled Mar-A-Lago Debrief, West claimed: “Trump started basically screaming at me at the table, telling me I’m going to lose. Has that ever worked for anyone in history?”

The launch of West’s campaign comes as the rapper faces a number of damaging controversies.

He provoked a storm of criticism after attending Paris Fashion Week in a T-shirt bearing the slogan “White Lives Matter” – a phrase adopted by white supremacists, who began using it in 2015 as a response to the Black Lives Matter movement.

West then claimed his critics were being paid by a secret cabal of Jewish people, a common trope of anti-Semitism.

As he continued to make anti-Semitic comments online and in television interviews, the 45-year-old was dropped by his talent agency, while fashion companies including Gap, Adidas and Balenciaga said they would no longer work with him.

The musician later commented that he had lost “2 billion dollars in one day”.

Earlier this week, Rolling Stone magazine reported claims that West had used “porn, bullying and mind games” to create a “toxic environment” among Adidas employees working on his Yeezy brand shoes.

The company said on Thursday it had launched an independent investigation into the claims.

When West ran for president in 2020, he announced his campaign too late to appear on the ballot in at least six states.

He held only one rally, in which he broke down in tears as he discussed abortion, and funded two television adverts. In the end, he was only listed as a candidate in 12 states.

For his 2024 bid, the rapper suggested he had enlisted alt-right commentator Milo Yiannopoulos as his campaign manager.

A former editor at the right wing publication Breitbart, Yiannopoulos was largely shunned by mainstream conservatives after a video emerged in 2017 of him appearing to condone paedophilia. He said the comments were “gallows humour” and stated his “disgust” at the sexual abuse of minors.

Most recently, Yiannopolous worked as an intern for Republican congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene.

Serial Stock Thief Nabbed.15 Stolen Cattle Recovered

By A Correspondent- The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has announced the arrest of a suspected serial stock thief leading to the recovery of 15 stolen cattle.

The suspect, Criswell Maponga, was arrested following a tip-off, according to a police report.

On 23/11/22 Police in Zvimba acted on a tip-off and arrested Criswell Maponga (42) in connection with two cases of stock theft in which eight cattle were stolen at Farm 79 Zowa and eight cattle stolen at Mhungu Village.

The arrest led to the recovery of 15 stolen cattle.

While this year recorded fewer cases of stock theft compared to 2021, cases have been rising in the country in recent years.

Police say during the period extending from January to June 2022, the Police received a total of 3214 stock theft cases compared to 4053 cases during the same period in the year 2021.

As of September 2022, the Police had recorded 1644 cases of stock theft involving cattle compared to 2510 cases recorded in the year 2021.

The total number of stolen cattle decreased from 5954 in the year 2021 to 3762 in the year 2022.

Some steal livestock for meat, to add to their herds while some use them for barter trade or selling to butcheries.

$76 Billion Budget Allocation For ZEC

By A Correspondent- The Government has set aside $76 billion for the 2023 harmonised elections to cover various activities, with $53 billion earmarked for the actual polling.

Presenting the 2023 National Budget yesterday, Finance and Economic Development Minister Professor Mthuli Ncube said other remaining activities related to the elections requiring funds are voter registration and inspection.

“The country will hold harmonised elections in 2023, as enshrined in the Constitution. The preparations have already commenced, which include the delimitation exercise, voter registration and voter’s role inspection. The 2023 National Budget is setting aside resources to cover voter registration ($12 billion), voter inspection $11 billion and actual election conduct $53 billion, among others,” said Prof Ncube.

Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) chief elections officer, Mr Utloile Silaigwana, could not immediately comment last night saying he was still to get through the Budget statement.

Political parties also said they needed time to familiarise with the Budget statement.

Presently, ZEC is finalising the delimitation of electoral boundaries following the conclusion of the population and housing census exercise held in April this year.

Population census results will provide ZEC important information in the delimitation exercise.

From April to end of September, the Central Registry Department ran a blitz under which it issued national identification cards, birth and death certificates, among others, to ensure people that have reached the age of 18, could register to vote.

As part of ensuring the smooth flow of elections, the Government has since gazetted the Electoral Amendment Bill that seeks to relax registration requirements for voters ahead of next year’s harmonised elections.

The Bill will amend several provisions of the main Act for it to conform with the Constitution.

Registration is now easier since potential voters just need to give their address without providing documentary back-up.

When voters were required to produce proof of residence to register to vote, some tenants not paying the primary rates faced challenges in getting the proof of residence from landlords who either did not want to be bothered or simply did not want to admit they had a tenant.

The Bill confirms that a driver’s licence cannot be used as identification; voters have to produce the national ID card or a valid passport.

A driver’s licence is issued by the Central Vehicle Registry while the other two documents are official documents from the Registrar-General and the Civil Registry Offices.

The new law will also provide the timeframe within which national assembly and local authority candidates can withdraw from contesting in an election and also provide for the incorporation of the 30 percent women’s quota and the youth quota.

It is envisaged that once the Bill is enacted into law, it will assist in ensuring that only citizens are able to vote in an election, that proper candidates are allowed to contest in an election, providing clarity on when and how a candidate can withdraw their candidature in an election so as to afford ZEC sufficient time to make changes to the design of the ballot and advising the electorate of any changes to the candidature in an election.

In his State of the National Address on Wednesday during the official opening of the Fifth Session of the Ninth Parliament, President Mnangagwa called for a peaceful election in the forthcoming harmonised election.

“VAT Increase An Attack On Working Class”: CCC

By A Correspondent- Finance minister Mthuli Ncube unveiled his 2023 budget on Thursday, raising value added tax (VAT) in a move the main opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) described as “an attack on working people.”

Ncube presented a Z$4.2 trillion (about US$6.5 billion) budget in Zimbabwe dollars, drawing brickbats from critics who say the government is now collecting a large portion of its taxes in foreign currency, hence the budget should have been presented in United States dollars.

Invoking Plato, Ncube said his budget was anchored on “prudence, temperance, fortitude and justice.” In large part, however, he raised taxes and offered few breaks for taxpayers.

Citing a SADC average of 16 percent VAT, Ncube said: “Zimbabwe charges a comparatively lower rate of 14.5 percent. The VAT rate was reduced from 15 percent with effect from January 1, 2020, in order to support households during the peak period of the Covid-19 pandemic… I propose to reinstate the VAT rate to the previous rate of 15 percent with effect from January 1, 2023.”

Consumers pay VAT when they buy food, pay for water, electricity and other services.

Ncube removed the suspension of duty on basic commodities, a blow to low-income families who are victims of unrelenting price increases as the Zimbabwe dollar weakens.

Early this year, the government suspended duty on commodities such as rice, maize meal, bath soap, cooking oil and maize meal amongst others.

Ncube justified the move by stating that prices had gone down following the stabilisation of the local currency.

“The suspension of duty, which expired on November 16, 2022, will not be extended. The government will, however, monitor prices of basic commodities with a view to ensure responsible pricing and affordability, failure of which the suspension will be reinstated,” he told MPs at the new parliament building in Mt Hampden.

In one of a few give-aways, Ncube said he was reducing the Intermediate Money Transfer Tax (IMTT) on domestic foreign currency transfers from 4 percent to 2 percent – but only because “some entities are now preferring to settle transactions in cash instead of electronic transfers.”

Ncube said he was considering a review of the 20 percent surrender requirement for domestic foreign currency transactions, which forces individuals and companies to give up a portion of their money at the government’s discredited exchange rate, which was 646 to the United States dollar this week and as high as 900 on the parallel market.

Former finance minister Tendai Biti, now deputy leader of the CCC, said Ncube’s projection that the economy would grow by 3.8 percent in 2023 was “ambitious and based on unsound assumptions,” arguing it “ignores the shrinkage of the global economy, the effects of the Russia-Ukraine war and the natural freeze of an election year.”

Ncube said the economy was expected to grow by 4 percent in 2022, a further downward revision from the mid-year projection of 4.6 percent. He blamed “global and domestic developments, particularly the impact of high inflation and resultant stabilisation measures” for the revision.

Biti said Zimbabwe was in the middle of a “structural economic crises characterised by poverty, disequilibrium, high inflation, an exchange rate problem and a total collapse of public services” which had plunged the country into its third “self-induced recession in 20 years.”

Fuelling the crisis, Biti said, was “high borrowing costs, relentless inflation and a squeeze on government payments to contractors.”

“The seismic headwinds required boldness, honesty and brinkmanship, Sadly the budget presented today was a banal self-serving ritual in narcissism and power retention excesses months before the 2023 election,” Biti opined.

Ncube offered no specifics on pay increases for restive civil servants, setting the stage for further confrontations with public sector workers in an election year. He, however, said 52.4 percent of the total expenditure for 2023 would be spent on employment costs, rising from 42.3 percent this year.

“An honest budget ought to have been presented in United States dollars,” said Biti. “After all, more than half of government taxes are now being collected in US$. This would then have allowed civil servants to be paid in US$. This would also have required the government to simply dollarise as the exchange control mess, right at the centre of Zimbabwe’s macroeconomic instability must be resolved by dollarisation, floating of the Zimbabwe dollar, scrapping the forex auction and the gold coin.”

Biti warns the “mess of multiple exchange rates” will continue “with consequent pricing distortions.”

According to Biti, the restoration of duties on basic commodities particularly while approaching a festive season is “equally sadistic and bankrupt” and the imposition of mining royalties to be paid partly in actual minerals “is equally zany.”

“Apart from gold, how does one pay chrome, coal or a PMG as a tax?”

Ncube allocated the highest budget – Z$631.2 billion – to the primary and secondary education ministry as he repeated a promise for free education at primary school level. Health pegged second with a Z$473 billion vote followed by lands and agriculture (Z$362.5 billion) and defence (Z$331 billion).

“The underfunding of the health budget (11 percent) and public education is an indictment,” Biti said. “However, the pumping of huge resources into command agriculture betrays that this is an election year and that the 2023 budget is a power retention agenda. Truth is Ncube and Zanu-PF have failed and the 2023 budget is exhibit A of craft incompetence.”

Court Gupuro As Man Disowns Own Wife

By A Correspondent- A Harare woman was left bemused yesterday when her husband referred to her as his ex-wife in court.

Peter Sibanda told the court that Felistas Manhamadze was his ex-wife after he applied for a protection order against her.

Peter pleaded with the court to evict Felistas from their matrimonial home, saying she was abusive and wanted to kill his children.

I am being bullied by my ex-wife.

“She verbally abuses me.

“I am emotionally drained by everything that is happening.

“I am of the view that if she wants to move out of the house she can do so, but the kids are not going anywhere,” said Peter.

In her response, Felistas argued that she was not Peter’s ex-wife.

“He is saying that I am his ex-wife, but we have been staying together,” she said.

She said he could be given the protection order because she already had an order against him.

“I have never insulted him. I am surprised that he is saying that I want to kill my children,” said Felistas.

Magistrate Sharon Mashavire granted Peter the protection order, but said the court cannot bar Felistas from her matrimonial home.

“Unfortunately, the court doesn’t have the jurisdiction to evict her from a place she is claiming to be her house,” she said.

Man Caged 3 Months For “R_aping” Neighbor’s Goat

By A Correspondent- A 25 year-old h0rny man from Madhibha Village under Headman Chaka in Chief Chirumhanzu’s area has been arraigned before Chivhu Magistrate, Ayah Kagwere for alleged bestiality with a goat of his neighbour.

Anymore Chipara (25) was allegedly caught in the act with his neighbour Haruperi Manjovha (53)’s goat.

He pleaded not guilty.

Prosecutor Flossie Chigudu told the court that on November 18, 2022 at 3:30 am at Mapiye Village, Headman Chaka, Manjovha who was asleep in her bedroom heard her goat making strange noises at the pen.

She went outside to check and was shocked to find Chipara in an act with her female goat.

The complainant tiptoed towards Chipara and grabbed him by the neck. The accused wrestled the complainant and Manjovha shouted for help and villagers came out and apprehended the accused.

Magistrate Kagwere sentenced Chipara to 6 months imprisonment and three months were suspended on condition that he does not commit a similar offence in the next five year.

The accused will effectively serve three months in jail.

Thigh Vendor Bitten By Snake While Having Bush Quickie

By A Correspondent- A Zhombe-based s_əx worker is recovering in hospital after she was bitten by a snake while she was being intimate with a ‘client’ in a bush.

The unfortunate incident occurred at Joel Shopping Centre when the s_əx worker had taken her client to a nearby bush for a quickie.

The lady, whose name could not be ascertained, is admitted at Zhombe Mission Hospital where she is said to be in a stable condition.

Chief Weight Ndabezinhle Gwesela confirmed the incident.

“It is true there was a woman who was bitten by a snake while having s_əx with her boyfriend in the bush. I heard the reports and I am told she is now recovering at the hospital,” said Chief Gwesela.

This comes amid reports of an increase in girls turning to s_əx work in the area amid climate change-induced hunger.

Chief Gwesela recently said financial difficulties in the wake of poor harvests over the last farming season, have resulted in many girls in Zhombe resorting to s_əx work and early marriages.

Chief Gwesela said cases of child marriages and s_əx work are on the increase in Zhombe as girls resort to immorality to escape hunger that has hit the area.

What is worrying is these girls will be working for as little as a dollar or even a plate of sadza. It is happening as people are facing hunger. So, they will be trying to make quick money thereby risking their lives,” said Chief Gwesela.

“The situation is bad in Zhombe and it has pushed many girls into pr0stituti0n and early marriages. The situation is forcing girls to turn to immorality. As you are aware this is a gold-rich area and the illegal gold panners are now taking advantage to lure the young girls with money,” said Chief Gwesela.

Ward 10 Junior Councillor Sithembinkosi Ncube said child pr0stituti0n was rife in her ward.

“We have Joel Growth Point in our ward where child pr0stituti0n is rife.

 “Some of the girls were expelled from school for untoward behaviour and they turn to s_əx work.

 “Girls from the ward have become wild as they are lured with money by illegal gold miners,” she said.

Cllr Ncube said boys were also dropping out of school to venture into illegal gold mining activities.

The Government has however started distribution of food relief across the country that is expected to ensure no Zimbabwean starves until the next harvest season.

Mai Titi Pulls Joke Out Of Mentally Ill Ceiling Man

By A Correspondent- The comedienne, who has a history of unsuccessful marriages, chose to make fun of Grant Mashasha, who authorities claim is mentally ill.

The 39-year-old is the son of a Chitungwiza lady, Gogo Plaxedes Mashasha, who spent many days with her husband’s body.

Mashasha was discovered lurking in their home’s ceiling.

He is thought to have been trapped in the ceiling for 14 years.

Mai TT, whose last marriage to Tinashe Maphosa lasted only five months, opted to include Grant’s name into her comedy.

She implied that he may be the ideal partner for her while taking another jab at Tinashe.

In her Facebook post, Mai TT said:

“Mondisiirawo murume we muceiling ndouya ndichimuroora.

“I think I found my soul mate asiri wemumastreets asingazive zvakawanda wanda.

“Plus haana madrama emabhebhi aingove reserved ari muceiling hake achitamba nemakonzo,” she said.

Now, that’s SHAMEFUL.

Unlike Tinashe Maphosa, who left Mai TT in debt, she believes Grant will give her a fresh start in relationships.

“Haana zvikwereti plus haabe, haakwenye futi,” she said.

“Tell him to wait for my return,” she said.

She signed off the message referring to herself as “Mrs Ceiling”.

All this could have been funny if Grant was not a victim, who appears to have been driven to his current state by the sins of his mother.

Especially against a background where the police have even classified him as a mental patient.

National police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, provided that reference when he revealed what might have happened at the Zengeza House of Horror.

“She (Gogo Mashasha) was going for a church service in Zengeza 2. The husband was paralysed and bed-ridden.

“He suffered a stroke sometime in 1992 and the condition worsened in 2010 and he became paralysed. When the wife returned home on the same day, she found her doors locked from inside. She claimed to have slept outside and later decided to break down the door on November 21 at around 8am.

“She could not locate her mentally ill son Grant and lodged a police report.

“Police attended the scene and after searching the house, they found the mentally ill son in the ceiling.

“They had to break the roof and ceiling in order to retrieve the MENTALLY ILL son,” said Asst Comm Nyathi.

Yesterday, Mai TT felt he was someone she could build her comic empire on.

WERDIT Statement on 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence(GBV)

Wedza Residents Development Initiative Trust (WERDIT), a registered Community Based Organization (CBO) operating in 15 wards of Wedza district joins the rest of the world in commemorating 16 days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence (GBV.) 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence takes place every year between the 25th of November – the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women – and Human Rights Day on the 10th of December.

WERDIT seeks to utilize this commemoration as an organizing platform for it’s stakeholders and duty bearers around the district to call for the prevention and elimination of violence against women and girls. This year’s theme is “UNITE! to end violence against women and girls.”

The theme is quite befitting given the reality that violence against women and girls remains the most pervasive human rights violation in the district and beyond.

Already exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, its prevalence is now being further heightened by the emerging challenges of climate change, global conflict and economic instability.

The case of Chipo Gwese, a woman who lived with a disability who was killed in cold blood on the 20th of March 2022 by a serial killer whom she was hanging with remains very shocking and a testimony of how women are vulnerable to violence.

From tomorrow till the 10th of December 2022, WERDIT is encouraging diverse residents groups in the district to get involved: from raising the voices of survivors and fire-brand women’s activists to supporting women’s initiatives towards their rehabilitation as equal partners with their male counterparts and ultimately their empowerment, reduction and prevention of violence against women and girls, and protection of women’s rights.

Through our Peace Building and Conflict Management project entitled, Building Resilience, Inclusiveness, Social Cohesion and Healing (BRICH) we have done a lot of work with relevant state and non- state actors to identify conflicts in the district with a bias towards GBV.

Targeting the hotspots of GBV WERDIT has conducted a cocktail of activities seeking to eliminate all forms of violence and discrimination against women.

In that regard the WERDIT Peace Structures known as Community Advocacy Teams (CATs) in all the wards has managed to unearth a total of 40 cases of GBV between May and November 2022 and have been brought to the attention of relevant authorities in the district. Utilizing our cordial relation with the Zimbabwe Republic Police(ZRP) and Ministry of Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development, council and the District Development Coordinator’s(DDC) Office we have managed to obtain a multiplicity of timely policy interventions as a remedy to the challenges to do with violation of women’s rights, particularly during the Covid 19 era.

Since It’s formation, WERDIT has successfully become a platform for state and non-state actors to deliberate GBV driven challenges and conflicts.

Consequently, these platforms have yielded noble resolutions currently being pursued by the duty bearers including establishment of a one-stop center for GBV in the district and rehabilitation centre for survivors of GBV.

At our platforms, it was also realized that peripheral areas in the district such as Zviyambe are too far from Wedza Police station, hence the call for a police post in that area.

The idea of neighborhood watch in hotspots for GBV also came out from the mentioned engagements, hence advocacy and resources to implement these ideas will continue to be on our agenda as we fight to eliminate all forms of violence against women.

To put end to violence against women in Wedza district and beyond, WERDIT will continue to challenge the attitudes that legitimize and normalize violence, and deny women’s right to safety. Men are generally the perpetrators of GBV. To bring to an end to violence, the attitudes of men need to change.

Shifting these attitudes and behaviors is a process, but gender equality means all of us, and working with all genders is the only way to see total development in this thematic area.

Woman Instructs Daughter To Fabricate R_ape Charges Against Own Father

 By A Correspondent- A Zhombe man spent three months behind bars after his 16-year-old daughter lied that he had rap_ed her.

The father was however set free yesterday when the matter was discharged at the close of the State case when his daughter during cross-examination told the court that she had lied about the alleged abuse at the instigation of her mother who wanted to fix him.

This was heard during the appearance of (name withheld to protect the identity of the girl) before Gokwe regional magistrate Mr Lungile Ncube facing one count of rap_e.

The man pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Mr Ncube set him free when the daughter being cross-examined by the prosecutor Mrs Melissa Makombe told the court that she had fabricated the rap_e allegations at the instruction of her mother.

It was the State case as presented by Mrs Makombe that the complainant is from Mnidwa Village, Chief Malisa in Zhombe and she is a form two pupil at a local school.

On July 26 around 11 am at their homestead, the daughter was at home with her father since her mother had gone to the garden.

The accused person called the complainant to his bedroom and upon entering the room the accused person pushed the complainant to the floor and she fell facing upwards.

The court heard that the accused person pressed the complainant to the floor and rap_ed her once.

Her mother suddenly returned home, went to her bedroom and caught the accused person red-handed rap_ing his daughter.

The complainant’s mother reported the matter at the police before the complainant was escorted to the hospital for medical examination.

Japan Cause Major Upset In Qatar

Takuma Asano scored an 83rd-minute winner as Japan stunned four-time world champions Germany 2-1 in their opening match of the World Cup 2022.

Germany led through Ilkay Gundogan’s 33rd-minute penalty at Khalifa International Stadium on Wednesday.

Germany looked in total command in the Group E clash but, with each missed chance, left the door open for Japan, who showed almost nothing in attack until a series of substitutions injected some energy in the second half.

However, Japan hit back in quick succession, first through Ritsu Doan’s equaliser and then Asano’s late goal, to seal a historic win that came just a day after Saudi Arabia shocked Argentina.

“We have created history today!” Japan fan Kosuke told Al Jazeera, as fellow supporters exited Khalifa International Stadium waving flags.

With the loss, Germany, who were knocked out in the group stages in 2018 as reigning champions, must now fear a second straight early exit.

Kosuke said he didn’t expect his team to beat Germany but now, he added, there was no stopping the Blue Samurai.

“They will be losing their heads back home, and maybe they will get a day off tomorrow, just like Saudi Arabia,” Kosuke said with a grin on his face.

German fans, meanwhile, trudged off in silence with drooped shoulders and flags folded away.

Elephant Kills Chiredzi Man

The Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Authority (ZimParks) has reported three incidents of human-wildlife conflict where a Chiredzi man was trampled to death by an elephant while two others were injured by crocodiles in Mwenezi.

Posting on Twitter, ZimParks spokesperson Tinashe Farawo said;

“It is with great sadness that a man was trampled to death by an elephant in Chiredzi, while 2 other people were seriously injured by crocodiles in 2 separate incidences along Save & Mwenezi rivers.”

Human-wildlife conflict has become rampant in the country, a situation that forced cabinet to put up a relief fund for those affected by the problem caused by incessant droughts that forces humans and animals to scramble for food.

Human wildlife conflicts are also caused by vandalism of perimeter fence on most game parks by communities which results in wild animals straying into villages.

Indomitable Lions Fall In Qatar

Day four at the World Cup kicked off with a 1-0 victory for Switzerland over Cameroon in Group G, thanks to Breel Embolo’s second half strike.

After early periods of pressure from the African side – lead by former Stoke City striker Eric Choupo-Moting – the Swiss should have been ahead before the break, with Manuel Akanji and Nico Elvedi squandering headed chances.

They eventually took the lead as Embolo netted against the country of his birth, refusing to celebrate as a mark of respect.

VP Chiwenga Aide Buyanga Assaulted In SA Prison

Zimbabwean businessman Frank Buyanga Sadiqi, who was recently arrested in South Africa for potential extradition to Zimbabwe, has reportedly been attacked in a Johannesburg remand prison by other inmates and is seeking a transfer to another prison.
Buyanga (43) was arrested on allegations of kidnapping his son in Harare in 2020, and on charges of contempt of court in Zimbabwe.

He was remanded in custody to today or Tuesday next week to allow South African authorities to verify his identity documents after it was found Buyanga’s South African identity documents show he was born in Zimbabwe, yet his Zimbabwean passport says he was born in the United Kingdom.

Last week, the Zimbabwean National Prosecuting Authority applied to the High Court in Harare challenging the cancellation of a warrant of arrest for Buyanga, which had been issued by Harare magistrate, Mrs Judith Taruvinga.

He has since appeared before the Randburg Magistrates Court and was remanded in custody for his bail hearing.

Last Monday, Buyanga had his warrant of arrest cancelled at the Harare Magistrates Court after Mrs Taruvinga said she had erroneously issued the warrant of arrest. But Prosecutor-General Mr Nelson Mutsonziwa immediately applied to the High Court challenging the cancellation and cited Mrs Taruvinga and Buyanga as the first and second respondents.

He wanted the High Court to set aside Mrs Taruvinga’s judgment, arguing that the warrant was cancelled without following due processes.

“The court presided over a matter in which it lacked jurisdiction to cancel a warrant of arrest after it had been executed by law enforcement authorities of the Republic of South Africa under an extradition request made to it by the Republic of Zimbabwe.

“There was a gross irregularity in the proceedings or the decision of the court, in that the court perpetuated contempt of court by (Buyanga) by granting his legal practitioner audience in circumstances where the High Court, Supreme Court and Constitutional Court of Zimbabwe, had previously found him to have dirty hands and consequently denied him an audience,” said Mr Mutsonziwa in the application.

Last week, South African lawyer representing Buyanga, Mr Laurence Hodes, called for a speedy bail hearing for his client.

South African media outlet News 24 reported that Mr Hodes told the Randburg Magistrates Court that the warrant executed by Interpol and used for arresting Buyanga on November 10, had been cancelled in Zimbabwe. Mr Hodes claimed he handed over the documents, including Buyanga’s passport, to the South African National Prosecuting Authority. He said Buyanga owns a property in South Africa, adding the defence had attached his visa permits to their affidavit, which would help show that he is not a flight risk and was entitled to bail.-state media

Cheating Exposes ZIMSEC Ineptitude

By A Correspondent- Zimbabwe’s school examinations system is under siege from cheats who are getting access to question papers prior to the date of writing, prompting authorities to rope in the police to fight the scourge.

Question papers leak almost every examination time in June and November, despite several culprits being arrested and arraigned before the courts of law.

Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) spokesperson Nicky Dlamini told Xinhua Monday that the examinations body was concerned about the leakages and would do everything possible to protect the integrity of the school examinations system.

ZIMSEC and school authorities have blamed each other for the leakages, with ZIMSEC insisting that the leakages occur outside its offices and at the schools.

One teachers’ union also attributed leakages to poor conditions of service which led some teachers to engage in corruption in a bid to survive.

More than 100 students and several teachers and members of the public have been arrested on allegations of participating in leakages for the Nov. 22 public examinations for Ordinary Level, with candidates allegedly sharing the questions on social media.

In one of the latest cases taken to court, a deputy headmaster and an English teacher at a school in Tsholotsho District, Matabeleland North Province, pleaded guilty to charges of criminal abuse of duty after they leaked an English examination paper to selected candidates at their school.

Tsholotsho Magistrate Victor Mpofu sentenced the two to three years in jail each, 18 months of which were, however, commuted to community service while the other 18 months were suspended on the condition of good behaviour.

Another teacher also appeared before another magistrate in the same district for allegedly getting the questions of a Mathematics examination through a mobile phone and revising them with his students prior to them sitting for the paper.

In other incidents, school teachers and other members of the public have written examinations on behalf of some candidates.

School administrators and their members of staff are said to be involved in these practices in a bid to boost the pass rates at their institutions, particularly at private colleges seeking to attract more students.

ZIMSEC has said all those who are caught cheating will have their results nullified, while authorities are seeking the amendment of the school examinations law to impose stiffer penalties on perpetrators.

Even at some universities, some examinations have had to be rescheduled after suspicions that question papers could have leaked.

A policeman is currently out on bail after he was allegedly found with a leaked question paper for a Bachelor of Laws examination.

Mnangagwa Flies Off To Niger

Emmerson Mnangagwa has left for Niamey, Niger, where he is set to join other Heads of State and Government today at the Session of the African Union (AU) Summit on Industrialisation and Economic Diversification.

The summit runs under the theme, “Industrialising Africa: Renewed commitment towards an inclusive and sustainable industrialisation and economic diversification”, and is expected to unlock the evolution of a vibrant Pan-African enterprise and capital base.

It is part of the Africa Industrialisation Week (AIW – 20-25 November 2022), annual commemorative activities aimed at highlighting Africa’s renewed determination and commitment to industrialisation.

Transforming the region’s economy through industrialisation is one of the central pillars towards attaining the continent’s growth and development goals as articulated in the African Agenda 2063 and the global 2030 agenda on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Mnangagwa is among regional leaders invited by Niger President, Mohamed Bazoum to participate at the high-level indaba.

He is expected to share Zimbabwe’s industrialisation experience at the regional stage, whose audience includes AU Commission executives and representatives of its key organs, ministers responsible for industry and trade, mining, development partner agencies, manufacturing and commerce leaders, civic society and investment financiers, among other relevant stakeholders.

Industry and Commerce Minister, Dr Sekai Nzenza, who arrived in Niamey earlier in the week and was part of the Extraordinary Session of the Executive Council of the AU on Wednesday, said Zimbabwe’s participation in the summit was strategic as it is pursuing a comprehensive industrialisation drive anchored on revitalising value chains.

Through Mnangagwa’s leadership, she said, Zimbabwe was driving a private sector-led growth while positioning the country to tap into vast trade opportunities under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

“There are lessons to be learnt from the Zimbabwe National Industrial Development Policy, which provides the foundation for the structural transformation of industry and commerce.

“Under President Mnangagwa, Zimbabwe is experiencing a growth trajectory in production, productivity and industrial capacity utilisation through targeted sector specific strategies,” said Dr Nzenza.

As one of the pioneer AfCFTA Agreement signatories, Zimbabwe has anchored its industrialisation policy in readiness to tap into wider business opportunities in a regionally integrated economic sphere and what remains is scaling up private sector awareness and buy-in, said Dr Nzenza.

Given the collective responsibility between governments, development finance institutions, regional and international bodies in economic development, Dr Nzenza said the summit should help unlock value chain financing as a critical enabler for robust regional transformation.

“Africa’s story of industrialisation lies in value addition. We cannot aspire for resilient and sustainable industries for as long as we continue to export raw commodities,” she said.

Zimbabwe has also called upon the AU Secretariat to consider undertaking value chain mapping for Africa in order for regional countries to tap into each other’s strengths as they industrialise and trade.

As part of efforts to buttress regional industrialisation collaboration efforts, Zimbabwe and Zambia have since embarked on a joint project to establish a Common Agro-Industrial Park, based on comparative advantages in the agricultural sector as a starting point for strengthening cooperation.

The project will be the first of its kind in Southern Africa and hopes are high that the model will be replicated with more African countries as the region explores opportunities under the AfCFTA.

In view of the key and strategic interdependences between industrialisation and the AfCFTA success, the AU has said this week’s summit seeks to rally desired political momentum, resources, partnerships and alliances towards a unique Africa-industrialisation drive.

The summit outcomes are expected to unleash an inclusive and sustainable industrialisation pathway that carries along with the participation of all economic agents, including SMEs, youth, and women in the generation of national wealth and creation of jobs, as well as expansion of entrepreneurship opportunities. -state media

Mum Dumps Own Baby

A 21-year old woman from Mahatshula North suburb in Bulawayo has appeared in court facing charges of dumping her six-month-old baby at her late boyfriend’s mother’s place amid allegations that the latter was refusing to maintain the child.
It is reported that Silondokuhle Tshuma, after abandoning her child at her “mother-in-law” Khawulani Mdlongwa’s house in Cowdray Park suburb, the latter ordered her 18-year-old son to take the child and dump her by the roadside.

For their uncouth conduct Mdlongwa and Tshuma appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Shepherd Mjanja facing a charge of exposing an infant.

They both pleaded guilty to the charge. Tshuma was sentenced to 10 months in prison and five months of her jail package were suspended for three years on condition of good behaviour.

The remaining five months were suspended on condition that she completes 175 hours of community service.

Mdlongwa was also spared jail agony when she was sentenced to 12 months in prison and six months of the sentence were suspended for three years on condition of good behaviour.

The remaining six months were suspended on condition that she also completes 210 hours of unpaid labour.

The court heard that on 6 November 2022 and at around 2pm, Tshuma went to Mdlongwa’s place and left her child on the sofa and went out.

Mdlongwa tried to follow her but she had already gone.

Mdlongwa then ordered her 18-year-old son to take the child and place her by the roadside.

The boy followed his mother’s instructions when he took the child and went outside the yard and placed it by the roadside near Mandaba Sibanda’s house.

It is reported that at around 3pm, Sibanda was informed by her son that there was a baby which had been dumped outside their house.

When Sibanda went outside to check, she found the baby wrapped in a white towel and she had bruises on her left eye.

Sibanda took the baby and advised her neighbours who instructed her to take the child to the residents chairperson who then directed her to take the child to the police.

After the child had been handed over to the police, Mdlongwa handed herself to the police leading to her arrest.

She later implicated Tshuma also leading to her arrest. —B Metro

Lawyers Unite To Create Lawyers4ED

By Dr Masimba Mavaza | OPINION | Never in the history of politics did a president attract such love and popularity as the President of Zimbabwe Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa passionately known as ED by his supporters. In political studies, surveys have been conducted in order to construct historical rankings of the success of the presidents.

Ranking systems are usually based on surveys of academic historians and political scientists or popular opinion. The scholarly rankings focus on presidential achievements, leadership qualities, failures and faults. Popular-opinion polls typically focus on recent or well-known presidents. Zimbabwe has had three President’s so far.

Which are 1. Josiah Zion Gumede, GCLM, MBE was the first and only president of the self-proclaimed, and internationally unrecognised, state of Zimbabwe Rhodesia during 1979, before Rhodesia briefly reverted to British rule until the country’s independence as Zimbabwe in 1980. He died in 1989. He is very little known. Many people will not even remember him. So he was never popular. 2 We then had Robert Gabriel Mugabe who was born on the 21 February 1924 and sadly died on the 6 September 2019. Mugabe was a Zimbabwean revolutionary and politician who served as Prime Minister of Zimbabwe from 1980 to 1987 and then as President from 1987 to 2017.

Now we have Emerson Dambudzo MNANGAGWA whose name has become synonymous with Development. MNANGAGWA has no doubt become the most popular leader of a nation whose people have stampeded to identify with him and his development. During his first term MNANGAGWA has attracted several people and groups to him. We now have so many groups for ED.
Lawyers who are naturally game changers in Politics have come up with a strong determined group called Zimbabwe Lawyers For Economic Development. (ZILFED) The vision of the learned friends was expounded by counsel Svinurai Dawn Chikore and Counsel Govenor PENDEI. Together they came up with a strong learned force behind the President an endorsement which has never been done by lawyers before.
People with different opinions have questioned why Lawyers can form an organisation in support of a President. The move by these Patriotic Lawyers is not a strange one. In all democracies lawyers take an oath to serve as lawyers.
The road to becoming a practicing attorney in America is a long and arduous one. Every lawyer in the country must be sworn in and take their state’s oath of attorney. This ceremony may seem traditional and mundane, but it has never been more important. This oath binds each attorney to certain professional obligations and requires them as lawyers, to faithfully uphold and support the laws of our state and our country. Taking an oath is a solemn attestation of the truth or inviolability of one’s words. We ask new attorneys to take an oath on the day they receive their licenses and as a condition of that license.The words in that oath are a mandate to all attorneys that they practice with professionalism, integrity, and respect.
The lawyers in many countries sweat to support their country and defend the Constitution of their country.
They further swear to faithfully discharge the duties of an attorney, and to conduct oneself with integrity and civility.
It should be understood by those who are less patriotic and did not understand the power and the force pushing PENDEI and Svinurai and all learned colleagues in the team, that The Lawyer’s Role in a Contemporary Democracy, is Promoting Social Change and Political Values,
Lawyers represent a call to discuss the nature of democracy itself in a patriotic way for the best interest of the country. Lawyers always stand for the Alternatively, it might employ the freedoms commonly associated with liberal democracies, such as free speech and equality. Unless lawyers become patriotic their practice will be in vain. Lawyers are the engine of social development because of their status, they have unique obligations to support law reform enhancing individual rights and open, representative government and support Economic Development (ED).

The inugral meeting of ZILFED was held on the 19th of Nov at Masvingo polytechnic college. The place was a befitting place to give the wall the strength and the symbol of the group.
The guest speaker at the inaugural was none other than the Minister of State and devolution the honourable Comrade Ezra Chadzamira.
The minister who was on the ground running to oversee other developmental issues graced the event momentarily as he was flying the flag for the vision 2030.
He left the great task on the shoulders of the director in his office to read the Speech and to cement the meeting.
The minister showed gratitude for the lawyers choice of Masvingo as its venue for the inaugural meeting.
The meeting of the learned friends for ED used the occasion to elect the National Board of Directors the national executive and heads of provincial executives.
ZILFED is not leaving any one behind in search of Economic Development so they elected heads of law students execitives at all law training institutions in Zimbabwe.
ZILFED is not only limited to lawyers in Zimbabwe it stretched its glorious hands to the Diaspora where a head of Diaspora Executive was elected.

ZILFED went on to discuss and outline activities and tasks to be done in the near future.

Lawyers are always learned and have their way guided by objectives. So the Objectives of ZILFED as they appear in the Trust Deed are tabulated as
1 to promote participation of lawyers in issues of economic development
2.contribute to the five million voters for ZANU PF in 2023. This is because the lawyers believe that there is no need to change a winning team. There is an obligation for lawyers to promote continuity in governance and to promote Economic Development.
3.promote culture of dialogue as opposed to confrontation between lawyers and the state and the party and other stake holders.
4.demystify allegations that there is no rule of law in Zimbabwe. Lawyers understand the law better than those who demonise Zimbabwe alleging that there is no Rule of Law in Zimbabwe.
5.demystfy allegation that government is comiting human rights abuses on its citizens.
6.advocation for the removal of sanctions and explaining the impact of sanctions to general Zimbabweans.
7.discourage spread of unfounded alegations and misleading information meant to tarnish the image of the country and ZANU PF.
8.discourage incitement of violence and public dishamorny by lawyers in Zimbabwe. To come up with a patriotic and responsible legal fraternity.
9.to champion for the empowerment of lawyers.

the continued existence of a free and democratic society depends upon recognition of the concept that justice is based upon the rule of law grounded in respect for the dignity of the individual and the capacity through reason for enlightened self-government. Law so grounded makes justice possible, for only through such law does dignity of the individual attain respect and protection.

Without it, individual rights become subject to unrestrained power, respect for the law is destroyed, and rational self-government is impossible.
Lawyers, as guardians of the law, play a vital role in the preservation of society. The fulfillment of this role requires an understanding by lawyers of their relationship with, and function in, our legal system. A consequent obligation of lawyers is to maintain the highest standards of ethical conduct.“Ideas, ideals, and great conceptions are vital to the system of justice, but it must be more than that—there must be delivery and execution.
On this basis Zimbabwean lawyers come together to pursue Economic Development and allow the prevailing peace and freedoms to prevail.

Facts About Oral Health

A new Global Oral Health Status Report published today by the World Health Organization (WHO) provides the first-ever comprehensive picture of oral disease burden with data profiles for 194 countries, giving unique insights into key areas and markers of oral health that are relevant for decision-makers.

The report shows that almost half of the world’s population (45% or 3.5 billion people) suffer from oral diseases, with 3 out of every 4 affected people living in low- and middle-income countries.

Global cases of oral diseases have increased by 1 billion over the last 30 years—a clear indication that many people do not have access to prevention and treatment of oral diseases.

“Oral health has long been neglected in global health, but many oral diseases can be prevented and treated with the cost-effective measures outlined in this report,” said WHO Director-General, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. “WHO is committed to providing guidance and support to countries so that all people, wherever they live and whatever their income, have the knowledge and tools needed to look after their teeth and mouths, and to access services for prevention and care when they need them.”

Rapid increase of oral diseases

The most common oral diseases are dental caries (tooth decay), severe gum disease, tooth loss and oral cancers. Untreated dental caries is the single most common condition globally, affecting an estimated 2.5 billion people. Severe gum disease ̶ a major cause of total tooth loss ̶ is estimated to affect 1 billion people worldwide. About 380 000 new cases of oral cancers are diagnosed every year.

The report underscores the glaring inequalities in access to oral health services, with a huge burden of oral diseases and conditions affecting the most vulnerable and disadvantaged populations. People on low incomes, people living with disabilities, older people living alone or in care homes, those living in remote and rural communities and people from minority groups carry a higher burden of oral diseases.

This pattern of inequalities is similar to other noncommunicable diseases such as cancers, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and mental disorders. Risk factors common to noncommunicable diseases such as high sugar intake, all forms of tobacco use, and harmful use of alcohol all contribute to the global oral health crisis.

Barriers to delivering oral health services

Only a small percentage of the global population is covered by essential oral health services, and those with the greatest need often have the least access to services. The key barriers to delivering access to oral health services for all include:

Oral health care requires high out-of-pocket expenditures. This often leads to catastrophic costs and significant financial burden for families and communities.
The provision of oral health services largely relies on highly specialized providers using expensive high-tech equipment and materials, and these services are not well integrated with primary health care models.
Poor information and surveillance systems, combined with low priority for public oral health research are major bottlenecks to developing more effective oral health interventions and policies.
Opportunities to improve global oral health

The report showcases many promising opportunities to improve the state of global oral health including:

adopting a public health approach by addressing common risk factors through promoting a well-balanced diet low in sugars, stopping use of all forms of tobacco, reducing alcohol consumption and improving access to effective and affordable fluoride toothpaste.
planning oral health services as part of national health and improving integration of oral health services in primary health care as part of universal health coverage.
redefining oral health workforce models to respond to population needs and expanding competencies of non-dental healthcare workers to expand oral health service coverage; and
strengthening information systems by collecting and integrating oral health data into national health monitoring systems.
“Placing people at the heart of oral health services is critical if we are to achieve the vision of universal health coverage for all individuals and communities by 2030,” said Dr Bente Mikkelsen, WHO Director for Noncommunicable Diseases.

She added: “This report acts as a starting point by providing baseline information to help countries monitor progress of implementation, while also providing timely and relevant feedback to decision-makers at the national level. Together, we can change the current situation of oral health neglect.”

Black Stars In Crunch Clash With Portugal

Portugal kick off their World Cup campaign today, with a certain Cristiano Ronaldo in the spotlight after his split from Manchester United.

Chitungwiza Residents and Rate Payers Association (CHIRRA) is concerned by the duping of hundreds of homeseekers by Chitungwiza municipality.

Police Chastised For Humiliating A Mbare Resident

By A Correspondent| Harare Magistrate Ayanda Dhlamini has chastised Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) over the conduct of its members who humiliated and insulted a Mbare resident before arresting and detaining him on flimsy allegations of contravening national lockdown regulations.

24 year-old Tinashe Maumbe was arrested together with his friends Reward Majoni and Tinashe Majoni by ZRP officers on 16 January 2021 while walking past Matapi Police Station in Harare’s Mbare high-density suburb, when the law enforcement agents manning the entrance to the police station enquired where the trio was going. The ZRP officers accused Maumbe and his friends of being homosexuals and told them that homosexuality is not permitted in Zimbabwe

The police officers subsequently detained Maumbe and his friends without pressing any charges against them and jeered at them. The trio was only released after lawyers from Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) intervened.

Maumbe then enlisted the services of Tinashe Chinopfukutwa of ZLHR and sued ZRP Commissioner-General Godwin Matanga, Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Minister Kazembe Kazembe and a police officer only identified as Mabika by filing summons in April 2021 at Harare Civil Magistrates Courts demanding payment amounting to ZWL900 000 as damages for unlawful arrest, detention, humiliation and embarrassment.

On 4 November 2022 and after presiding over the trial of Kazembe, Matanga and Mabika, Magistrate Dhlamini granted judgment in favour of Maumbe and ordered Matanga, Kazembe and Mabika to pay him ZWL800 000 as compensation for violation of his rights after ruling
that ZRP officers had “hysterically” arrested the 24 year-old Mbare resident based on their personal opinion of members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and gender diverse, queer and questioning people.

Out of the ZWL800 000, ZWL$400 000 is for damages for unlawful arrest and detention while ZWL$400 000 is compensation for inhuman and degrading treatment.

Magistrate Dhlamini further ruled that the police officers, who arrested Maumbe, were not even aware of the COVID-19 provisions, which they purported to have cited upon apprehending him.

The Magistrate concluded that Maumbe’s arrest and detention was unlawful and that the police officers had jeered at him and insulted him for allegedly being a homosexual and by so doing, violated his right to human dignity guaranteed in terms of provisions of section 51 of the Constitution.

My name is Thomas “Mukanya” Mapfumo the Chimurenga Music King. I am writing to you at this desperate hour to give you my free point of advice about the conditions in Zimbabwe. I am sure you can feel Zimbabwe going down the drain as a nation. Nyika yedu yaora makatarisa. Haichina anodzora mumwe.

The services are decaying daily, and the situation is now hopeless. You may try to cover it up, but the truth keeps coming out. Rine manyanga hariputirwe.

The country is facing a load of hardships. People need clean water. That green water that is coming out of household water taps is not a healthy sign and no one drinks that. Cities need proper drainage of runoff water. We cannot continue to have pools of water on the streets. This is unacceptable.

Hospitals have no medications or equipment. Medical staff is running away. Power cuts are now commonplace. Urban transport is now disastrous.

Our people are going to places like Chirundu Hospital to fill up the beds as they seek medical care. Munosvikomhoreswa nevanhu venyu ikoko. What are you doing about this Mr. President? Does that mean anything to you and your people?

Now we hear that operation Dudula is coming to South Africa. Xenophobia is bad and your people get attacked and laced with burning tyres. Do you enjoy such a sight? What are you doing to save your people Mr. President?

We have no national currency as we speak. We are using all kinds of currency and the bond note is not even a currency once one leaves Zimbabwe. Why are we going through so much suffering? What is the end to all this suffering?

Even police officers are struggling to survive. They do not even have unforms. Teachers and nurses have similar hardships. The nation is now lawless. Where are we going with this Mr. President?

Corruption is now going through the roof. You have done nothing to stop this, and you do not want to openly address this or take real action. All the big fish that are stealing the resources of Zimbabwe are set free by the court system. The catch and release method is real and thieves are always freed.

What example are you setting sir? What message are you sending to the nation?

Why are recreational drugs now commonplace in Zimbabwe? Have you openly denounced them as a menace? Why not? Have you ever taken any steps to deploy your CIO teams to find out who is supplying these hard drugs to our youth? Why is this happening on your clock?

Why are our youth being destroyed like this? We can do several campaigns against drugs but those will not help because your Government is openly refusing to come up with a tough criminalization policy to track the sources of these drugs. Why are drug lords not being arrested and jailed?

Please leave the Presidency if you can no longer control the corruption and the lawlessness. Zimbabwe now needs vibrant young leaders who can fix the economy and get the nation going. Our youth need jobs. Our patients need local care. Please step down and let the young take over.

You have failed us as a nation Mr. President. Nothing works anymore. We need new and young leaders. The economy should be back to its feet. In every progressive country, young leaders are doing miracles. Magarisa. Chiendai.

Our problem now is that we have had you in Government for more than 40 years. You have no new ideas except to send opposition people to jail. You cannot stick to power for the sake of it. Ruining a country should not be a hobby. You are destroying lives and livelihoods.

We now need innovative leaders who can move the country forward. I also urge the youth to desist from using hard drugs. The best way to live stable lives is to be sober and vote wisely to get the economy moved to create jobs. That ZANU PF regalia and fooling music will never bring jobs.

The youth will remain hungry and jobless unless they register to vote and change the system. Zimbabwe needs new leaders that are real and that must focus on the issues hitting the people hardest. We are going nowhere with the current leadership.

Please accept failure as a ZANU PF Government. Admit that you are not doing anything to control corruption. You are clueless about running the economy. You have let everyone down. The nation is going down the drain.

Gogo Mashasha was remanded in custody and is expected back at the Chitungwiza Magistrates’ Court today for bail application.

Asked if she wanted legal representation in court, Gogo Mashasha asked for one month to look for a lawyer.

“Yes, I need a lawyer if you may avail one for me. If I am the one paying, can you give me a month to look for one,” she said.

Allegations are that Gogo Mashasha left her ailing husband, Gideon, 80, in the house in the care of her son, Grant, who is believed to be mentally challenged.

On her alleged return, she found her husband dead and stayed with the body until it reached an advanced stage of decomposition.

She was arrested on Monday after a man hired to repair something at the house was greeted by the stench of the decomposing body and informed neighbours.

Police were called and a search found Gideon’s body in one of the rooms.

Grant was found hiding in the ceiling, which police had to break into to get him down.

Neighbours said they had not seen Grant for 12 years, while Gideon hadn’t been seen for 10 years.

They had been made to believe that Grant was in South Africa or was dead.

Only Gogo Mashasha was seen entering and leaving their yard for the past decade.

None of her relatives were in court.

Kadoma Man Killed Over Sadza

According to policve, Farai Hlongwani Mlilo (27) hit the victim Milton Gido Siziba aged 38 with a firewood twice on the head.

Siziba died on admission at a local hospital.

“Police in Kadoma are investigating a case of murder which occurred on 23/11/22 at Machokoto Compound, Hazel Mere Farm, Patchway. The suspect, Farai Hlongwani Mlilo (27) hit the victim, Milton Gido Siziba (38) with a firewood twice on the head after an argument over sadza.

“The victim died on admission at a local hospital. The suspect is on the run. Anyone with information to contact any nearest Police Station.”

Parliament Bars Newsday Journalists From Covering Mnangagwa’s SONA

Newsday reporters were barred from covering President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s State of Nation Address (Sona) held at the new Parliament building in Mt Hampden yesterday.

In what now appears to be a growing trend, two NewsDay reporters Harriet Chikandiwa and Shepherd Tozvireva’s names were mysteriously removed from a list of journalists accredited to Parliament who were supposed to cover Sona.

The ban comes after six Alpha Media Holdings journalists were recently kicked out of State House where they had gone to witness the swearing in of a three-member tribunal to determine Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission spokesperson John Makamure’s fitness to hold office.

Last month, the ruling Zanu PF refused to accredit NewsDay journalists to cover the party’s elective congress, accusing the paper’s journalists of being “fiction writers”.

No explanation was given as to why the journalists were banned from covering the Sona.

Zimbabwe National Editors Forum national co-ordinator Njabulo Ncube said the decision to bar NewsDay from Sona was disturbing.

“It is another affront to the practice of journalism in the country at a time our minister (Monica Mutsvangwa) has indicated that the new dispensation does not discriminate against private media personnel. Be that as it may, we shall seek an audience with Parliament and our minister to understand why NewsDay is being treated unfairly,” Ncube said.

Zimbabwe Union of Journalists secretary-general Perfect Hlongwane said: “We have said that barring journalists from covering events is a violation of their freedoms as granted by the Constitution of the country and President Mnangagwa’s position and on Press freedom.
