Chiwenga Mocks Chamisa

By A Correspondent

In a recent rally at Chikurubi Damview, Constantino Chiwenga, the former military chief and Vice President of Zimbabwe’s ruling Zanu PF party, took a direct jab at opposition leader Nelson Chamisa, likening him to a goat herder and urging him to abandon his independent political path in favor of joining Zanu PF.

Chiwenga’s remarks were unequivocal as he dismissed Chamisa’s political standing, stating, “Let the young man, what does he enter? His only role is that of herding goats.”

This comparison underscored Chiwenga’s belief that Chamisa lacked significant political impact, framing him as a solitary figure rather than a formidable force within Zimbabwean politics.

The Vice President emphasized the necessity for Chamisa to realign his political ambitions with Zanu PF, suggesting that this was the true path to realizing his aspirations.

“If he has ambition, he must execute it while inside the good party that fulfills the wishes of the people,” Chiwenga asserted.

This call for unity under Zanu PF’s banner was intended to challenge Chamisa’s position and to encourage him to reconsider his political trajectory.

Chamisa, formerly the leader of the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), has been a vocal critic of the ruling party’s policies and leadership.

His confrontational stance against Zanu PF has contributed to the political tension that persists within Zimbabwe’s political landscape.

Chiwenga’s proposition for Chamisa to switch allegiances reflects the entrenched division between the ruling party and the opposition in Zimbabwean politics.

The suggestion of integration into Zanu PF presents a strategic maneuver by Chiwenga to consolidate power and potentially weaken the opposition’s influence.

As Chiwenga’s words echo across Zimbabwe, the response from Chamisa and the implications of his decision will be closely monitored by Zimbabwean citizens and political observers alike.

Chamisa’s next steps will not only shape his political future but also influence the broader dynamics of Zimbabwean politics.

Chamisa’s camp is yet to issue an official statement.

However, this exchange underscores the ongoing battle for dominance within Zimbabwean politics, where strategic alliances and allegiances play a pivotal role in shaping the nation’s future trajectory.

Mnangagwa Gags Civil Society

By A Correspondent

The civil society in Zimbabwe is once again under siege as the government unveils a new draft law aimed at regulating Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and curbing their activities.

The proposed Private Voluntary Organisation (PVO) Amendment Bill 2024 has raised significant concerns among human rights groups and activists.

In a statement issued by Amnesty International Zimbabwe, the organization expressed alarm over the government’s intentions behind the bill.

According to the statement, the new legislation is purportedly designed to combat money-laundering and terrorism financing, but it also includes provisions targeting political activities by NGOs.

The bill aims to restrict NGOs from engaging in political lobbying, effectively constraining their advocacy efforts.

Amnesty International Zimbabwe, emphasized the potentially chilling effect of the bill on civil society operations.

“The PVO Amendment Bill 2024 poses a serious threat to civic space and undermines the essential role of NGOs in advocating for human rights and social justice,” Amnesty International Zimbabwe said in a statement.

This development follows President Mnangagwa’s previous rejection of the PVO Amendment Bill in 2021, which ultimately lapsed in August 2023.

There were hopes that the concerns raised by civil society organizations during that period would be addressed in the new draft.

However, activists are dismayed to find that many of the proposed changes have not been incorporated into the latest version of the bill.

“The fact that the new bill largely disregards the submissions made by civil society in 2023 is deeply concerning.

Added Amnesty International Zimbabwe :

“The provisions of this bill could severely restrict the ability of NGOs to operate independently and impact their ability to carry out essential work in Zimbabwe.”

The government’s move has ignited condemnation from various quarters, with calls for transparency and meaningful consultation on the bill’s implications.

Civil society leaders are urging policymakers to reconsider the proposed amendments and engage in constructive dialogue with stakeholders to address legitimate concerns.

As the debate over the PVO Amendment Bill 2024 unfolds, the fate of Zimbabwe’s civil society hangs in the balance.

The outcome of this legislative process will have far-reaching implications for the country’s democratic governance and the protection of human rights.

Warriors Fail To Find Home Ground In Country

The Warriors’ home fixture against Lesotho in the upcoming World Cup qualifiers will be played in South Africa, since Zimbabwe is still without a stadium certified to host international matches.

Despite numerous promises by Sports Minister Kirsty Coventry that the National Sports Stadium will be renovated in time for the upcoming qualifiers slated for June, the giant facility is still not on the list of facilities certified by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to host the games.

Rufaro Stadium is still being renovated and even struggled to get the ZIFA First Instance Board (FIB)’s approval for the hosting of Premier Soccer League (PSL) matches.

The iconic venue and is no where near meeting international standards.

Consequently, the stadia crisis will force the ZIFA Normalisation Committee to once again find an alternative venue for a World Cup qualifier, having hosted Nigeria in Rwanda on match day 2.

While the Lincoln Mutasa-led administration has not lifted the lid on their plans as far as the alternative venue is concerned, a source privy to ongoings told Soccer24 that the Lesotho match will be hosted in South Africa.

“The Warriors-Lesotho game will be played in South Africa, what’s on left is confirmation on the exact city,” said the source.

“The Normalisation Committee chose South Africa because it is obviously cheaper, since the Warriors will also play Bafana Bafana in South Africa, days later.

”Also, the fact that there are many Zimbabweans in South Africa clearly means the team will have support, which is also another fact which necessitated the decision made by the Normalisation Committee,” added the source.

Zimbabwe are in Group C and currently anchor the log standings with two points from their opening two matches against Rwanda and Nigeria.

They play Lesotho and South Africa between June 3 and 10.

Mthuli, RBZ Governor Snub Parly As ZiG Collapses

By Business Reporter- Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube and the Reserve Bank Governor, John Mushayavanhu, have snubbed parliament after being summoned to explain why the ZiG currency is losing value.

Legislators were left fuming on Monday after both Mushayavanhu and Mthuli failed to appear before joint portfolio committees on budget and industry to explain the emerging rate decline in the new ZiG currency.

Mushayavanhu was summoned to appear before parliament alongside finance minister Mthuli Ncube.

But while Ncube could not make it to parliament because of delays in his travel arrangements from Washington, the governor also told the committees that he had other engagements.

Co-chair of the committees and Zaka South legislator, Clemence Chiduwa told industry stakeholders that the failed appearances by the two senior treasury officials was beyond his control.

“I got information that the travel arrangements for the minister from Washington were affected by floods in Dubai where he was supposed to connect.

“At 2PM, I also got information that the governor had some engagements which were beyond his control.

“This means that our engagement with them has been pushed to a date we are still working on. It’s something I have no control over,” Chiduwa said.

The legislators were visibly unhappy about the developments but were asked by the chair to deliberate on the matter behind closed doors.

After a short caucus by the two committees, one MP said the legislators rang and ordered Mushayavanhu to present himself before the committee this Tuesday as they felt he was deliberately avoiding grilling alone in light of the spiralling exchange rate.

“No engagement should override parliament business. We want him to explain what is happening on the market,” said the lawmaker.

Later in the evening, parliament then released communication that the central bank chief was indeed going to appear before the committees this Tuesday.

Mushayavanhu is under fire for the emerging exchange rate decline of the ZiG against the US dollar despite making firm promises during launch the domestic currency was set to withstand the exchange rate pressures that decimated its predecessor Zimbabwe dollar.

ZiG launched early this month trading at ZiG13,56 against the US dollar but has slid to an embarrassing parallel market rate of ZiG20 plus, in just a few weeks.

Government has responded through rounding up street traders of foreign currency while accusing them of causing the currency turmoil.

Mnangagwa Targets Foreigners, Arrests 30 Malawians

By Political Reporter- The Zimbabwean government has confirmed the arrest of 30 Malawi nationals in Harare’s Mbare suburb after allegedly failing to produce relevant documents.

The 30 were taken to Harare Central police station for further investigations.

Police confirmed the arrests in a sting operation after a tip-off.

“Thirty foreign nationals have been arrested in an operation conducted by police in Mbare after receiving information,” said police national spokesman Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi.

He said full details of the arrest would be released today.

Foreign nationals must have valid documentation to remain in Zimbabwe legally.

If a foreigner is not able to prove that he or she has a legal document to remain in Zimbabwe, he or she may be arrested and prosecuted for illegally entering the country.

Most foreigners that are arrested in the country would be trying to cross into South Africa illegally as cases of human trafficking continue to rise.

Zimbabwe is a major transit corridor for African immigrants trying to reach South Africa, the continent’s major economy, to seek refuge.

Over the past years, police crackdown on foreign nationals have been sparked by numerous cases of human trafficking and assisted border jumping by bus operators, villagers and other unscrupulous officials.

Trafficking of foreigners is a big and dangerous business in most countries in Southern Africa.

There are known individuals and kingpins of the trade who kidnap foreigners and demand ransom of up to R80 000 per person.

Some of the foreigners come from as far afield as Somalia and Ethiopia and use Zimbabwe and Beitbridge as a transit to South Africa.

RBZ Governor Blames The World Bank For The Collapsing ZiG

By Business Reporter- The newly appointed Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) Governor, John Mushayavanhu, has blamed the World Bank for the ineffectiveness of the Zimbabwean Integrated Gold-backed currency (ZiG).

Mushayavanhu disclosed that the authorities were in the dark regarding structured currency and had to seek guidance from a World Bank consultant before launching ZiG.

Economists had previously cautioned against the adoption of any new currency without addressing the underlying economic issues plaguing the nation.

Speaking at a recent gathering of business executives, Mushayavanhu shifted the blame away from himself, attributing ZiG’s flaws to the advice received from the World Bank consultant.

He stated, “We didn’t know much about a structured currency. We got a consultant from the World Bank. A lot of the things you’re seeing about the structured currency actually came from the World Bank.

So, if you’re going to blame me, you’re actually blaming the World Bank.”

In a further blow to ZiG’s credibility, Mushayavanhu revealed during a meeting organized by the Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce (ZNCC) in Gweru to discuss the new Monetary Policy Statement (MPS) that ZiG was not even conceived by the Central Bank.

He asserted that ZiG was the brainchild of the Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries (CZI), distancing the RBZ from its inception.

Mushayavanhu elaborated on the consultations leading up to the MPS, emphasizing the extensive engagement with various stakeholders.

He admitted that CZI played a pivotal role in the development of ZiG, stating, “We borrowed a lot from a paper that was presented by CZI. We didn’t invent ZiG; it was invented by CZI.”

Despite the efforts to promote ZiG, skepticism looms large among Zimbabweans, with many fearing its inevitable failure akin to the troubled RTGS and bond notes.

ZiG, introduced under SI 60/2024 by the Reserve Bank, faces an uphill battle to gain credibility and trust in the eyes of the public.

Jonathan Moyo Says New RBZ Governor Not Up To The Task

By A Correspondent| Self exiled former cabinet minister Professor Jonathan Moyo has hit out at the new Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) Governor Dr John Mushayavanhu saying his recent remarks where he blamed the World Bank consultant for the ZiG failure means he is not up to the task.

Posting on X, formerly Twitter, Jonathan Moyo did not hold back urging Mushayavanhu to take full responsibility of his decision to introduce the new currency.

“In principle, a principal who blames a consultant or an advisor – or who discloses the identity of a consultant or an advisor – to escape responsibility or to justify or defend his own decision or policy – is simply not up to the task and is therefore not fit for purpose. Consultants or advisors are professional or technical analysts or experts; they’re not decision makers, and so, they do the analysis and recommend options, each with its pros and cons or its costs and benefits. It’s the principals who weigh the options and bite the bullet by making a decision to commit to a particular option by having it implemented. As such, principals, meaning decision makers, must always take full responsibility for their decisions by standing or falling with them!,” said Moyo.

Recently, Mushayavanhu told a business breakfast in Bulawayo that they hired a World Bank consultant before they introduced the new structured currency.

“We didn’t know much about a structured currency. We got a consultant from the World Bank. A lot of the things you’re seeing about the structured currency actually came from the World Bank.

So, if you’re going to blame me, you’re actually blaming the World Bank. Maybe they didn’t advise us properly. And if they did not advise us properly, it’s fine. Let’s refine it,” said Mushayavanhu.

Mnangagwa Faces Triple Soldier Burial Demand

Nation Prepares for Unique Triple Burial of Fallen Heroes.

In a solemn ceremony that underscores the depth of national loss, Zimbabwe is gearing up for what is arguably one of the most unique funerals in its history—a triple burial for three distinguished figures: Nash Dzimiri, Brigadier General Shadreck Vezha, and heroine Tsitsi Jadagu.

The nation mourns the loss of these illustrious individuals, each contributing to Zimbabwe’s rich tapestry in their own right. Dzimiri and Jadagu succumbed to illness, while Brigadier General Vezha tragically lost his life in a road traffic accident.

President Mnangagwa, in a poignant display of respect, presided over an extraordinary session of the Zanu-PF Politburo to discuss the arrangements for their joint burial. Speaking after the session, Zanu-PF national spokesperson Ambassador Christopher Mutsvangwa emphasized the significance of the occasion, stating, “Today we have lost solid patriots, and it is fitting that we grant these heroes and heroine a proper burial befitting their contributions to our nation.”

Nash Dzimiri, hailed for his revolutionary fervor and unwavering dedication, is remembered for his outstanding military career and pivotal role in shaping Africa’s security landscape. Brigadier General Shadreck Vezha, a rising star within the military ranks, embodied the spirit of service and sacrifice. His untimely demise serves as a stark reminder of the risks faced by those in uniform.

Tsitsi Jadagu, a stalwart of the Women’s League, was instrumental in mobilizing support for Zanu-PF during crucial elections. Her tireless efforts to expand the party’s influence in urban areas leave an indelible mark on Zimbabwe’s political history.

As preparations for the triple burial gather momentum, the nation unites in grief, paying homage to these fallen heroes. Their interment at the National Heroes Acre symbolizes the highest honor bestowed upon those who have selflessly served their country.

In a poignant tribute to their memory, Patrick Chinamasa, the party’s Treasurer General, remarked, “There was unanimity that she deserved it,” referring to the decision to confer national hero status upon Tsitsi Jadagu.

As Zimbabwe bids farewell to these remarkable individuals, their legacy of courage, commitment, and patriotism will endure as a guiding light for generations to come.

Chadzamira Snubs War Veterans

By A Correspondent

In a startling revelation that has sent shockwaves through Zimbabwe’s political landscape, war veterans from Masvingo Province have openly criticized Ezra Ruvai Chadzamira, the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution in Masvingo. Accusing Chadzamira of neglecting their needs and favoring cronies, the veterans voiced their frustrations during a public address in Masvingo City last week.

A group of seven war veterans, representing a larger collective of former freedom fighters, condemned Chadzamira for what they described as his indifference to their plight.

According to these veterans, their repeated attempts to seek assistance from Chadzamira’s office have yielded no results, while the minister allegedly allocates resources and opportunities to his associates and relatives.

“We have gone to Chadzamira’s office several times to seek help but nothing has materialized.

I don’t know why Chadzamira loathes war veterans. He is busy dishing out mining claims and plots to his friends and relatives at the expense of former freedom fighters,” expressed one visibly frustrated war veteran.

The accusations against Chadzamira are particularly striking given his close association with President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration.

As the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Chadzamira wields considerable influence in Masvingo Province, making the war veterans’ grievances a matter of significant public concern.

The war veterans’ claims highlight broader issues of resource allocation and transparency within Zimbabwe’s political system.

Allegations of nepotism and favoritism, especially in the distribution of mining claims and land parcels, resonate with longstanding criticisms of governance practices in the country.

In response to these accusations, Chadzamira has yet to publicly address the war veterans’ concerns.

The silence from his office underscores the seriousness of the allegations and raises questions about accountability and responsiveness within Zimbabwe’s provincial leadership.

The rift between Chadzamira and the war veterans underscores deeper fissures within the ruling Zanu PF party, where loyalty and patronage networks often dictate resource allocation and political influence. The war veterans’ outspoken condemnation of Chadzamira signals a potential shift in dynamics within Zimbabwe’s political landscape, as disenchantment with entrenched leadership intensifies.

As the story continues to unfold, attention will remain focused on Chadzamira’s response and the broader implications for governance and accountability in Zimbabwe.

The voices of the war veterans serve as a reminder of the sacrifices made during the liberation struggle and the ongoing struggle for recognition and support in post-independence Zimbabwe.

In the midst of these developments, the future of Masvingo Province and the fate of its war veterans hang in the balance, with broader implications for the trajectory of Zimbabwean politics and governance.

Mnangagwa Hoodwinks Civil Servants

By A Correspondent

Despite President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s recent promises to improve the welfare of civil servants in Zimbabwe, many within the nation remain skeptical of the government’s commitment to real change.

Mnangagwa’s declarations, made during the 44th Independence Day Celebrations at Murambinda Growth Point in Buhera, appear to some as nothing more than political rhetoric in the face of ongoing economic hardships.

Addressing the crowd at Murambinda B Secondary School, Mnangagwa reiterated the importance of honoring the heroes and heroines of Zimbabwe’s liberation struggle while highlighting recent government actions, such as the declaration of a state of emergency due to drought and the introduction of the Zimbabwe Gold currency.

These initiatives, he claimed, demonstrate the Second Republic’s dedication to the well-being and economic stability of the nation.

However, political analysts and civil servants alike have expressed doubts about the sincerity of Mnangagwa’s promises.

In response to the President’s statements, one analyst remarked that such assurances were merely “reflective of mere grandstanding.”

Hopewell Repeats Military Audio Leak Saying Mahere Is The Only Vibrant Opposition Left, Chamisa Is Useless

By Dorrothy Moyo | The activist, Hopewell Chin’ono’s recent remarks, which echo sentiments from a controversial military intelligence audio leak, have sparked skepticism and debate.

Despite previously denying any connection to similar comments, Chin’ono has made new public statements that critique Nelson Chamisa’s leadership while favoring Fadzai Mahere as a vibrant figure capable of challenging the ruling ZANU PF party.

In a statement on Monday, Chin’ono claimed that Western embassies have largely dismissed Chamisa’s capabilities, asserting that discussions with diplomats led him to conclude that the opposition has no chance in the upcoming 2028 elections.

His comments come after Vice President Constantino Chiwenga recommended that Chamsia mist join ZANU PF as he is now lonely.

Meanwhile, Chin’ono quoted unnamed diplomats saying, “One said to me that their planning for any potential real electoral contest is now focused on 2033 because the opposition leadership has proved not to be ready or able to take on ZANU PF.”

However, these claims have been met with caution by observers familiar with Chin’ono’s past of allegedly name-dropping influential figures to lend weight to his assertions. The anonymity of the diplomats and the lack of direct quotes or tangible evidence raise questions about the authenticity of these encounters and the reliability of the information presented.

Chin’ono criticized the opposition’s strategy, quoting alleged diplomatic sources who view the opposition as more interested in securing parliamentary seats for financial gain rather than effecting real change. “Elections have become a business for the opposition leadership to enter parliament and secure funding for political parties instead of fighting for real change,” he relayed, further clouding his narrative with doubts about its factual basis.

Significantly, his praise for Mahere mirrors earlier leaked audio remarks, enhancing suspicions about his motives and the accuracy of his reports. He stated, “Some African diplomats talked about how the opposition fails to respond to issues like the ZiG with a coherent response, save for individuals like Fadzai Mahere who delve into the crux of issues comprehensively.” This consistency raises further questions about whether these are genuinely independent observations or a repeated narrative with ulterior motives.

Chin’ono’s approach to sharing these supposed insights from the diplomatic community—without revealing sources or providing verifiable context—casts a shadow over the credibility of his claims. This strategy might reflect his reported tendency to leverage alleged discussions with influential figures to enhance his standing or influence public opinion, a tactic that has been criticized by some as misleading.

These developments necessitate a careful examination of the role media figures like Chin’ono play in shaping political discourse in Zimbabwe. They also prompt a critical evaluation of the internal dynamics within the opposition parties as they prepare for future electoral challenges. The ongoing controversy over Chin’ono’s statements and his journalistic practices underscores the complexities of political reporting in environments where information is both a tool and a weapon.

Chiwenga Pulls Trigger On Chamisa

By Political Reporter- By Political Reporter – Constantino Chiwenga, the former military chief and Vice President of Zanu PF has set his sights on opposition figure Nelson Chamisa, calling on him to abandon his solitary path and join the ruling party.

VP Chiwenga’s remarks came during a rally held at Chikurubi Damview, where he didn’t mince words in addressing Chamisa’s political stance.

“He then came with his CCC saying let the young man, what does he enter?, his only role is that of herding goats,” Chiwenga remarked, highlighting what he perceived as Chamisa’s lack of substantive political engagement.

Further pressing his point, Chiwenga emphasized the necessity for Chamisa to align his ambitions with Zanu PF. “If he has ambition, he must execute it while inside the good party that fulfills the wishes of the people,” Chiwenga asserted. He continued, “If you’ve decided to do politics, you must join others, not remain lonely.”

Chamisa, the former leader of the opposition CCC has been a vocal critic of the ruling party’s policies and leadership.

However, Chiwenga’s call for Chamisa to switch allegiances underscores the ongoing political tensions in Zimbabwe, where the divide between the ruling party and the opposition remains deep-seated.

As Chiwenga’s words reverberate across the political landscape, Chamisa’s response and the potential ramifications of his decision will be closely watched by Zimbabwean citizens and observers alike.

RBZ Governor Admits ZiG Is Useless

By Business Reporter- In a startling admission, the newly appointed Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) Governor, John Mushayavanhu, has openly acknowledged the ineffectiveness of the Zimbabwean Integrated Gold-backed currency (ZiG).

At independence, Dzimiri played a critical role in the integration of ZANLA combatants into the Zimbabwe National Army.

Dzimiri joined the Central Intelligence Organisation in 1983 where was deployed to various provinces.

At international level, the intelligence supremo was sent on a diplomatic tour of duty to Havana, Cuba in 2007 as a Liaison Officer where he worked hard towards improving bilateral relations between the two countries.

Seke Village Head Arrested Over Land: Implicates The President

By A Correspondent| A self proclaimed Seke village head, Kenneth Kuora has been arrested for the umpteenth time for assaulting Manyame Rural District Council officials and trying to stop the council from doing its job.

He is facing another count of illegally parceling out state land in Seke District specifically Kuora village.

It is alleged that on Friday the 19th of April, Kenneth in cahoots with five other youths wearing ZANU PF regalia led by one Elliot Nengomasha physically assaulted Manyame Rural District Council member Tapiwa Souta and threatened him with death should he be seen performing his duties in Kuora village.

It is alleged that Kenneth Kuora claims that he has the support and blessings of President Mnangagwa.

Residents in Murisa rural service centre are living in fear because of Kuora and Elliot.

Party leaders in Seke District have distanced themselves from Kenneth and his horde of youths.

FC Wangu Mazodze MarvelsZhalala Zhululu Outplay Destiny

FC Wangu Mazodze 2-0 Destiny FC

By Stephen Chuma

FC Wangu Mazodze kept pace with the leading pack in the Eastern Region Division 1 League after dismissing Destiny FC at Mucheke Stadium yesterday.

Zhalala Zhululu as the team is affectionately known by its legions of supporters put Destiny to the sword with goals from the impressive Tinaye Tsimba and hard running Nicholas Muchadei.

Tsimba found the back of the net after eight minutes following an enterprising display of football in the opening exchanges by the home team. This was his second goal of the season in as many matches.

FC Wangu Mazodze could have doubled their lead on the 34th minute but Tyler Mugoniwa saw his long range pile driver missing the goal by a whisker.

There were calls for a penalty by Destiny FC players in the 37th minute after FC Wangu Mazodze defender, Guidance Charinda calmly chest controlled the ball in the penalty box. The referee who had a good game waved away the protests.

Backed by their vociferous supporters, FC Wangu Mazodze continued to pile pressure with successive waves of attacks on Destiny FC goal area.

It was not long before the home team found a second goal in the 43 minute through a beautiful strike by Nicholas Muchadei.

The match retained the same pattern in the second stanza with the home team continuing to dazzle in front of a good crowd at Mucheke Stadium. In the 51st minute, coach John Nyikadzino subbed Prosper Andrea for the trickery winger Michael Bastos Chihowa.

Destiny FC were awarded a penalty in the 53rd minute but their player missed the target much to the delight of the vocal home team supporters.

On the 78th minute, Nyikadzino made more changes bringing on Edward Mafa and Takunda Mawarire for Nicholas Muchadei and Tinaye Tsimba but his team could not add to their tally.

Though it is early days in the Eastern Region Division 1 League, FC Wangu Mazodze appear to be among favorites for promotion into the top flight league. FC Wangu Mazodze remain second with six points and are only separated by goal difference with table topping Rusitu Tigers.

Mnangagwa’s Empty Promise to Civil Servants: A Closer Look

Mnangagwa’s Right Handman “Blue ticks” War Veterans

The action kicked off early when Barcelona’s Christensen rose highest to head his side into the lead from a corner just six minutes into the game.

The Blaugrana looked sharp and dangerous in the opening exchanges, but Real Madrid quickly responded.

Real Madrid was awarded a penalty in the 18th minute after Cubarsi fouled Vazquez inside the box. Vinicius Jr calmly converted from the spot to level the score at 1-1.

The match continued at a frenetic pace, with both teams creating chances and VAR coming into play to deny a goal for Barcelona as Lunin pulled off a remarkable goal-line save.

The first half ended with a concerning sight for Barcelona fans as De Jong had to be stretchered off the field after injuring his ankle deep into stoppage time.

The second half saw more drama unfold. Barcelona regained the lead in the 69th minute when Fermin tapped home to make it 2-1, but their joy was short-lived.

Real Madrid responded swiftly, with Lucas Vazquez slamming home an equalizer in the 73rd minute, setting up a tense finale.

With both teams showcasing their quality and determination, the stage is set for a thrilling conclusion to the La Liga season.

Zimbabwean Opposition Leader Nelson Reveals Anticipated New Path

By A Correspondent

Advocate Nelson Chamisa, the prominent Zimbabwean opposition leader, recently sent shockwaves through the nation with a cryptic yet intriguing announcement over the weekend.

His proclamation, “Defining A New Path!”, has left the ruling Zanu PF regime and his political adversaries in awe and speculation.

Chamisa’s bold declaration comes at a critical juncture in Zimbabwean politics, amidst ongoing challenges and deep-seated discontent with the current administration’s policies and governance.

Chamisa’s words carry significant weight and have ignited widespread anticipation and curiosity among Zimbabweans eager for change.

The opposition leader’s rhetoric of “Defining A New Path!” hints at a strategic shift or transformative vision that could reshape the country’s political landscape.

Speculation abounds regarding the nature of this anticipated development: Will it be a policy pivot, a strategic alliance, or a bold campaign for reform and democratization?

Chamisa’s message has not only captivated the attention of his supporters but has also rattled the ruling Zanu PF regime and its entrenched leadership. The response from government officials and loyalists has been a mix of dismissal and apprehension, reflective of the uncertainty and tension that often accompany political transitions and power shifts.

In recent years, Chamisa has emerged as a charismatic and dynamic leader, rallying support among Zimbabwe’s youthful population and advocating for progressive change.

His promise of a “new path” resonates with a populace weary of economic stagnation, corruption, and human rights abuses.

However, challenges lie ahead for Chamisa and his supporters.

The Zanu PF regime, led by President Emmerson Mnangagwa, maintains a firm grip on power and has a history of suppressing dissent and opposition.

The announcement of a “new path” could potentially trigger a response from the ruling party aimed at preempting or undermining Chamisa’s momentum.

As Zimbabwe prepares for potential political shifts, both domestic and international observers are closely monitoring the situation.

The prospect of change in Zimbabwe, driven by a vibrant opposition and a restless populace, underscores the complexities and stakes of political transition in a country with a rich but tumultuous history.

Chamisa’s announcement sets the stage for a critical period in Zimbabwean politics, characterized by uncertainty, hope, and the quest for a genuine democratic future.

Whether his vision for a “new path” materializes into substantive change remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: Advocate Nelson Chamisa has reignited the conversation about Zimbabwe’s destiny and the pursuit of a better tomorrow.

As the nation awaits further details and clarity on Chamisa’s revelation, the anticipation and intrigue surrounding this pivotal moment continue to grow.

The echoes of “Defining A New Path!” resonate across Zimbabwe, signaling the dawn of a potentially transformative era in the nation’s history.

Mliswa Drops Bombshell On Chamisa

By A Correspondent | ZimEye | Former Norton MP Temba Mliswa has dropped a bombshell on Emmerson Mnangagwa’s rival, Nelson Chamisa saying those who fight him are not succeeding.

Writing on his X platform at the weekend, Mliswa said in part:

“The reality for many who have gone against Chamisa is that politically they are done. For some it’s their first & last term.

“This is notwithstanding how brilliant they may be.

“They will never be forgiven by the people for seeming to aid the ruling party in its agenda.”

Mliswa also separately added saying: “As it stands, Chamisa simply represents an idea which has momentum and no individual ability can withstand that.

“We can see with the likes of Brian Dube, a great legal mind& well-resourced person who went with Mwonzora. Same with Mbondiya.

Under Fire Richard Tsvangirai Says Not Moved By Smear Campaigners

By A Correspondent| Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) MP for Norton, Richard Tsvangirai has angrily responded to a post by ZimDaily which accused him of betraying the people of Norton.

This follows his decision to attend the 44th Independence celebrations held in Murambinda last week.

Responding to a Zimdaily Facebook post where the writer expressed regret for endorsing him, Tsvangirai said he was unmoved.

“I’m not moved by the sponsored smear campaign; this has nothing to do with policy, ideology, or anything else that has to do with the welfare of the people of Norton and Zimbabweans at large.

“This has everything to do with personalities, which has nothing to do with the people of Norton, who, in their infinite wisdom, stood in the cold weather to cast their vote. I’m forever grateful to those individuals!

“Our plan of decongesting schools by building new schools, improving the security of residents, and improving water shortages is on course! This is what I promised the people of Norton, not to bootlick individuals!”

Tsvangirai’s remarks that he will not bootlick an individual appears directed at former CCC leader Nelson Chamisa who has gone public about his disapproval of attending Uhuru celebrations.

Nelson Chamisa’s Intersection of Faith and Politics

By A Correspondent

Zimbabwean opposition leader Advocate Nelson Chamisa has been a prominent figure in both political and religious circles, often drawing attention for his outspoken faith.

Chamisa’s unapologetic blending of religion with politics has sparked debate and criticism among some, yet it reflects a deeply rooted belief system that informs his worldview and actions.

In a recent statement, Chamisa reiterated his unwavering faith, proclaiming, “We are His creation and His possession. We belong to Him.”

This assertion encapsulates a fundamental aspect of Chamisa’s identity—a belief that governance and leadership are divinely ordained responsibilities.

To Chamisa, his political endeavors are not merely about securing power but also about fulfilling a divine purpose.

Chamisa’s declaration that “Whenever we move our lips, we must testify and confess the power, glory, and greatness of God” underscores his commitment to intertwining religious expression with political discourse.

This approach, however, has invited scrutiny from critics who argue that a secular political arena should remain distinct from matters of faith.

The invocation of Jeremiah 32:27—”Lord Jesus, vindicate your promise, save us!!”—illustrates Chamisa’s reliance on scripture to underpin his political aspirations.

This blending of biblical prophecy with political rhetoric speaks to his conviction that Zimbabwe’s destiny is entwined with divine intervention.

Chamisa’s assertions about Zimbabwe’s past, present, and future, which he claims to have been divinely taught, signal a belief in a transcendent purpose for the nation.

His reference to “God is at work in Zimbabwe” suggests an optimism that transcends the challenges facing the country.

Criticism of Chamisa’s religious fervor often hinges on concerns about the separation of church and state.

In a diverse society, where not everyone shares the same religious beliefs, questions arise about the appropriateness of invoking religious language in political discourse. Some view this as exclusionary or potentially divisive.

On the other hand, Chamisa’s unabashed religious stance resonates deeply with many Zimbabweans who identify with his faith-based worldview.

In a nation grappling with economic hardships and political uncertainties, his messages of hope and divine purpose strike a chord with those seeking solace beyond the realm of conventional politics.

Chamisa’s public persona as a religious leader and political figure embodies a complex intersection of faith and governance.

While his critics may challenge the appropriateness of his religious rhetoric in the political arena, his supporters find inspiration in his unwavering conviction and steadfast belief in a higher purpose for Zimbabwe.

Ultimately, Chamisa’s fusion of faith and politics highlights the multifaceted nature of leadership in a nation where spirituality often intersects with everyday life.

Whether his approach garners widespread acceptance or criticism, Nelson Chamisa’s unyielding faith continues to shape his vision for Zimbabwe’s future, underscoring the enduring influence of religion on the country’s political landscape.

Harare’s Dysfunctional Toilets Charge USD50 Cents Per Use

In Harare, Zimbabwe’s capital, the public toilets remain inoperable, exacerbating a health and sanitation crisis in the city’s bustling center. Despite charging a significant 50 cents per use, these facilities have been shuttered indefinitely due to ongoing water shortages, leaving many without basic sanitation services.

Notices declaring “Not in Use — No Water” have become a common sight on toilet doors throughout the city, including popular locations like Harare Gardens and Copacabana area. This closure has forced street vendors, commuters, and the homeless to resort to relieving themselves in service lanes and secluded spots, further sullying the city’s streets.

The malfunction of these facilities not only poses a stark contradiction to Harare’s aspiration to achieve world-class city status by 2025, but it also raises serious public health concerns. The vicinity of food vendors near these unsanitary conditions is particularly alarming given the lingering threat of cholera—a grim reminder of past epidemics.

Outraged by the ongoing situation, locals have expressed their dissatisfaction with the city council’s management of the crisis. A taxi driver lamented the unexpected cost of using the public restrooms, which at 50 cents, are unaffordable for many who earn a meager daily income. He shared, “To save money, I find myself forced to use pavements and building corners instead.”

Another resident criticized the lack of maintenance and accountability, highlighting that the closed facilities provide no value to ratepayers and only contribute to the degradation of their community. Meanwhile, a public transport driver named Nancy Svoni reported being charged $2 000 for tissue paper, despite sporadic access to the non-functional toilets.

In response to these issues, Harare City Council spokesperson, Mr. Stanley Gama, emphasized that the council is collaborating with the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) to address and prosecute corrupt practices among city workers, including illicit charges for toilet use. “We are determined to root out corruption as we strive towards becoming a world-class city,” he stated.

As the situation unfolds, the residents of Harare continue to await effective action and improvements that will restore dignity and health to their daily lives. The current state of the public toilets remains a glaring blemish on the city’s reputation and its goals for the future.- State Media

Mnangagwa Consolidates Firm Grip On Power

By A Correspondent

In the midst of Zimbabwe’s ongoing economic hardships, marked by soaring inflation and widespread poverty, the recent unveiling of new, lavish ZANU PF district offices in Shurugwi has sparked controversy and raised questions about the ruling party’s priorities.

The construction of these offices, reportedly financed by ChengXi Investments, has drawn criticism for its perceived extravagance at a time when many Zimbabweans are struggling to make ends meet.

The decision to allocate significant funds towards the construction of party offices, while admirable in its aim to provide ZANU PF with a permanent and independent operational base, seems incongruous against the backdrop of pressing socio-economic challenges facing the nation.

The move has invited scrutiny over the allocation of resources, with critics arguing that such expenditures should be redirected towards initiatives aimed at alleviating poverty, improving healthcare, or addressing infrastructure deficits.

The narrative put forth by ZANU PF officials and ChengXi Investments, emphasizing the importance of supporting the ruling party’s vision and fostering development, is met with skepticism by those who view the construction of luxury party offices as a misplaced investment in light of urgent national needs.

While acknowledging the importance of political infrastructure, detractors contend that the timing and scale of this project send conflicting messages about the government’s commitment to addressing the everyday struggles of ordinary Zimbabweans.

In response to criticism, ZANU PF provincial leaders have defended the decision, highlighting the significance of having dedicated party premises to uphold the party’s heritage and operational efficiency.

They argue that the project signifies confidence in President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s leadership and the country’s investment climate under the “new Dispensation.”

ChengXi Investments, the company behind the construction, has justified its support for ZANU PF by emphasizing the party’s role in fostering investor confidence and promoting development.

The company’s general manager, Mr. Simon Karimanzira, cited the ruling party’s “people-oriented” approach as a driving force behind their investment decisions.

However, amidst the rhetoric of progress and development, many Zimbabweans remain unconvinced.

The juxtaposition of opulent party offices against the backdrop of everyday struggles faced by citizens highlights broader concerns about governance, transparency, and equitable resource allocation.

The official commissioning of the new district offices by Midlands Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Owen Ncube, underscores the government’s endorsement of such initiatives.

Minister Ncube praised ChengXi Investments for its contributions to local development, echoing sentiments of inclusivity and progress.

Ultimately, the unveiling of ZANU PF’s new offices in Shurugwi epitomizes the complex interplay between politics, economics, and public perception in Zimbabwe.

While proponents celebrate the project as a symbol of progress and commitment to the ruling party’s legacy, critics argue that it represents a misalignment of priorities in a nation grappling with profound economic challenges.

The debate surrounding these new offices underscores deeper questions about governance and the allocation of resources in Zimbabwe, challenging leaders to reconcile political ambitions with the urgent needs of the populace.

As the nation navigates its economic recovery journey, the construction of luxury party offices serves as a stark reminder of the delicate balance between political symbolism and practical, tangible progress for all Zimbabweans.

Mnangagwa Consolidates Firm Grip On Power By Building New Party Offices

RBZ Prints Millions Of Useless ZiG Notes

By Business Reporter- The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) has forged ahead with printing millions of ZiG notes despite stern warnings against flooding the market with valueless currency.

In an exclusive interview with The Sunday Mail, RBZ Governor Dr. John Mushayavanhu defended the production of the new currency denominations, claiming they are backed by gold, precious minerals, and foreign currency reserves, all sourced domestically.

He asserted that the central bank has generated a surplus of notes and coins, purportedly to meet market demands.

The prolonged delay in the circulation of physical notes and coins was supposedly to facilitate extensive public awareness campaigns, aiming to ensure widespread understanding and acceptance of the new currency. ZiG notes, ranging from ZiG1 to ZiG200, along with half ZiG and quarter ZiG coins, are set to gradually enter circulation.

Dr. Mushayavanhu insisted that the new currency had already been rolled out, converting all existing Zimbabwe dollar balances into ZiG as of April 5.

However, the physical introduction of notes and coins was slated for April 30, with the governor asserting that the money had already been printed and was ready for distribution.

Despite his assurances, concerns persist regarding the viability of ZiG. The central bank’s emphasis on extensive educational campaigns to familiarize the public with the currency’s features hints at potential skepticism and resistance.

Dr. Mushayavanhu’s justification that ZiG is a stable currency, purportedly gaining value since its inception, raises eyebrows given the country’s history of currency instability.

Furthermore, while Dr. Mushayavanhu touts ZiG’s stability, critics question the currency’s true value, particularly as it is pegged to the fluctuating price of gold.

The assertion that ZiG’s value hinges on gold prices raises doubts about its reliability as a medium of exchange, especially considering the volatile nature of commodity markets.

Dr. Keen Mhlanga, a prominent investment adviser, acknowledged the unique aspect of pegging ZiG to gold but cautioned that such a strategy does not guarantee currency stability.

He emphasized the need for robust mechanisms to audit currency issuance against reserves to maintain confidence in its value—a concern echoed by many skeptical observers.

The decision to introduce ZiG comes amid the rapid depreciation of the Zimbabwe dollar against major currencies, highlighting the urgent need for a stable and reliable medium of exchange.

However, doubts persist regarding whether ZiG can fulfill this role effectively, particularly given the country’s economic challenges and past currency failures.
While the RBZ boasts of sizable reserves in foreign currency and gold, questions remain about the sustainability of ZiG, especially in the absence of concrete measures to address underlying economic issues.

As Zimbabweans await the full rollout of the new currency, skepticism abounds, casting doubt on its ability to alleviate the country’s economic woes and restore confidence in its monetary system.

Village Head Meets His Maker At Same-Age Girlfriend’s House

Villagers in Chief Chitanga area, Mwenezi were left tongue-tied after a village head, Tembani Chitanga died at his alleged girlfriend’s house, sparking controversy in the area.

The incident, which occurred on Saturday night (April 14,2024) is said to have happened when the village head who was reportedly coming from a beer binge at Lundi Business Centre decided to pass through his girlfriend’s place on his way home where he met his unfortunate demise.

Chief Chitanga born Feleni Chauke confirmed the village head’s death but refused to shed more light on the circumstances as he insisted the matter was now being handled by the responsible authorities.

“I can confirm that indeed Village head Chitanga died but I am not at liberty to comment further about his death as the matter is currently with the police otherwise I end up derailing investigations if I rush to comment further,” said Chief Chitanga.

Masvingo Provincial Police Spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa told a local Masvingo publication that investigations were currently underway to establish circumstances around the traditional leader’s death.

“I can confirm we received a report where a 42-year-old man from Chitanga village was pronounced dead upon arrival at Neshuro Hospital and investigations are currently underway,” said Dehwa.

Circumstances are that Tembani Chitanga (42) arrived at his alleged girlfriend Lucia Madhaki (42)’s homestead around 2200hrs and they had a misunderstanding after which Tembani became violent leading Madhaki having to flee from her homestead to seek refuge at a neighbor’s place.

An irate Tembani broke the Madhaki’s bedroom window using his fist, seriously injuring his hand in the process.

When Madhaki came back with neighbors, they found Tembani lying in a pool of blood, called for help and rushed him to a local clinic where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Other sources close to the matter had another version of the story, claiming that after the beer binge at Lundi Business Centre the village head had tried to forcefully enter his alleged girlfriend’s house after suspecting the presence of another man inside.

“The story is like a movie script. The village head must have tried to forcefully enter the girlfriend’s place because she had refused to open the door for him.

“He was reportedly cut by the fragments of the widow pane and bled until he became unconscious, or probably dead due to excessive bleeding,” said the source.

Although many locals suspect that there could be foul play on the controversial circumstances surrounding the incident, the alleged girlfriend who is said to be a key witness in the matter is allegedly maintaining that the village head succumbed to excessive bleeding sustained after he broke the window pane using his hand.

The village head was buried on Tuesday, April 16, 2024.

Makorokoza Sink Mnangagwa Home Town

By Municipal Reporter- Illegal Gold miners in Kwekwe have dug mining tunnels going as deep as 1,5 kilometres beneath Kwekwe’s central business district, raising fear of the city caving in.

The study, undertaken by the Zimbabwe National Geospatial and Space Agency (ZINGSA), used high-tech geospatial mapping techniques that exposed an extensive network of tunnels ranging from 40 metres to around 1,5km in depth, which threatened the structural integrity of the ground and buildings above them.
It highlights the alarming practice of illegal miners targeting pillars supporting the tunnels.
The report also details the hazards the tunnels pose to the city’s infrastructure and environment due to the proliferation of sinkholes and ground vibrations from blasting.
In March last year, a classroom block at Globe and Phoenix Primary School collapsed into a sink-hole.

School Head Butchers Superiors With Baseball Bat

The deputy headmaster, who severely beat up his superior and two other teachers at Amazon Christian College Academy in Insiza, Matabeleland South, with a baseball bat, is on the run, police have confirmed.

The suspect, Vusa Ncube, fled the scene after severely assaulting the headmaster, Progress Ncube, who is now admitted to the intensive care unit of a local hospital in Bulawayo.

Two other teachers, Martha Ncube – who is also the headmaster’s wife – and Simbarashe Maseko are nursing fractures and head injuries.

Although Amazon Christian College Academy is a private school, the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has assigned an inquiry team to determine the cause of the April 9 incident.

Acting Matabeleland South Provincial Police Spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Stanford Mguni, confirmed to CITE that the deputy headmaster is on the run.

“The suspect, Vusa Ncube, is facing assault charges, but these are likely to be upgraded to attempted murder since one of his victims, the headmaster, is in ICU. At the moment, I can’t give you the exact charge as investigations are ongoing,” said Mguni.

“The victim, Progress Ncube, is still in hospital, and we don’t know when he will pull through.”

The Asst. Inspector said the complainants are the headmaster and his wife, who also works at the academy.

“On April 9, 2024, around 9 am, the headmaster, Progress Ncube, asked another teacher to call the deputy head, Ncube. We think there were some documents that Ncube was supposed to sign, perhaps a written warning letter, but we don’t know exactly,” Mguni said.

Mguni said the police still do not know what was said in the headmaster’s office that enraged the deputy, as he went out and returned armed with a baseball bat.

“The deputy, Ncube, came back carrying a baseball bat, intending to beat up the headmaster. Another teacher, Simbarashe Maseko, led him outside, but Ncube overpowered him, and the headmaster followed to intervene. But Ncube overpowered them both and went back inside to the headmaster’s office and started beating the teacher, Maseko, and the headmaster,” said the Asst. Inspector.

“Ncube was beating them on their heads, elbows, hands, and the headmaster fell down, having collapsed.”

The Asst. Inspector said another teacher who was at the scene but was not beaten, Simangaliso Jamela, went with Maseko to look for transport to carry the injured headmaster to the hospital.

“They left the headmaster’s wife, Martha Ncube, in the office with Ncube, and when they left, Ncube also pounced on her. When Jamela and Maseko came back, they found him beating the woman. Martha Ncube was lying down, bleeding from the nose as Ncube was beating her,” Mguni said.

Jamela then ferried the injured to a hospital in Filabusi, but because the headmaster was in critical condition, he was transferred to Bulawayo.

“Now we don’t know what condition the headmaster is in. The headmaster’s wife also developed fractures, sustained head injuries with the other teacher, Maseko. Their injuries mean Ncube severely beat them up. He broke all their elbows and injured them on their heads, including the headmaster. Only the other teacher, Jamela, was not beaten up,” said the Asst. Inspector.

Director of Communications and Advocacy in the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, Taungana Ndoro, confirmed the ministry heard about the matter and was now conducting investigations.

“Yes, we have heard about it. We have sent an investigation team to try and establish the circumstances of the report. We were discussing it with the Matabeleland South Provincial Education Director (PED) last night (Thursday), so let me find out and get the investigation report,” he said in an interview with CITE.

Army General Killed In Car Accident Declared National Hero

National Hero Status Conferred on Brigadier-General Shadreck Vezha After Tragic Accident.

The late Gen Vezha

In a poignant announcement yesterday, Zimbabwe’s government has bestowed national hero status on Brigadier-General Shadreck Vezha, a distinguished soldier and strategist, who tragically died in a road traffic accident earlier this week. This rare honor reflects his substantial contributions to the nation’s security and independence.

The tragic incident occurred at the 180km-peg along the Harare-Bulawayo Road, claiming the lives of Brig-Gen Vezha and three other Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF) officers in a severe head-on collision. The Zimbabwean community and military are mourning the loss of such influential figures in a time meant for national celebration, as the country approaches its 44th independence anniversary.

During a heartfelt ceremony at the Vezha homestead in Chivi, Masvingo province, Zanu-PF Secretary for Security in the Politburo, Lovemore Matuke, formally announced the conferment. “President Mnangagwa, who is also the First Secretary of our party, Zanu-PF, through its Politburo, has bestowed on the late Brigadier-General Vezha, national hero status,” Matuke said.

Brig-Gen Vezha’s commitment to Zimbabwe was underscored by various dignitaries during the ceremony. Robson Mavhenyengwa, Zanu-PF Masvingo provincial chairperson, hailed him as a “gallant son of the soil who fought for our freedom,” while Masvingo Province Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Ezra Chadzamira, remarked on his sacrifice for the nation’s security.

The incident resulted in additional casualties and injuries among other passengers, who are currently receiving medical attention.

As Zimbabwe mourns, the nation also reflects on the steadfast dedication of Brig-Gen Vezha. Defense Minister Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri expressed the collective heartache, stating, “We share the grief and pain with His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe and Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, Dr. ED Mnangagwa, the family, and the nation as a whole as we mourn the departed.”

Brigadier-General Vezha’s legacy as a defender of national integrity and a hero of Zimbabwe will be remembered as the country pays tribute to his life and service. His contributions to Zimbabwe’s military and national security have indelibly marked him as a figure of national importance, now and in the annals of history.

Who Vandalised Warren Hills Graves?

IN a script that sounds stranger than fiction, over 100 graves have been vandalised at Warren Hills Cemetery in Harare.

Whether ritual or criminal, the motivation behind this heinous act remains a mystery.

Margaret and Grace Chishawa are coming from the grave site to check on their parent’s final resting place after news filtered through on the goings on at Warren Hills cemetery in Harare.

“We are living in fear, what sort of human being can do this? Surely this is an act of Satanism,” said Margaret.

Grace added, “We are still in shock, everything that has happened is still very unbelievable.”

Acting on the grapevine, many rushed to the cemetery this Friday and as if to reassure their loved ones, they braved the scorching heat to spend the day seemingly playing the protection role for the departed.

“We are still fearful if these criminals will not come back and destroy more graves. We only hope that the long arm of the law will catch up with the criminals so that they can be punished,” said a family member, Mrs Maggie Machila.

“We do not know if this grave will survive, I am currently in a dilemma of what will happen tonight,” said one of the family members.

Graves are not the only victims of this vile act, as nearby businesses also suffered the evil hand overnight.

Florist, Mr Tazvigarira Karidza said, “I run a flower business and I woke up to find that most of my products had just disappeared only to find them recklessly disposed in a nearby bush. I can’t imagine what could have influenced this kind of attack because it happened the same night the graves were destroyed.”

Harare City Council Spokesperson Mr Stanley Gama revealed that investigations are underway, while security has been beefed up at the shrine.

Pastor Chris’ Wife Anita Was Replaced By A Dude?

By ©️Pongo The Poet

In the halls of love world, a tale unfolds,
Of love betrayed and secrets untold.

Anita, once cherished, now cast aside,
Replaced by another, in deceit they hide.
Chris, the preacher, with words so sweet,
Promised forever, but truth he’d cheat.
For in the shadows, another did lurk,
A secret lover, his true desire to irk.
Anita wept, her heart torn in two,
Betrayed by the man she thought she knew.
Chris, blinded by lust, could not see,
The pain he caused, the love he set free.
Now Anita wanders, lost and alone,
Her faith shattered, her heart turned to stone.
Her bed now Chris, shares with Tom with no shame,
Forever marked by the echoes of their name.
Oh, the folly of love, so cruel and unkind,
In its grasp, the strongest of hearts are confined.
Anita and Chris, torn apart by deceit,
Their love undone, by a lover’s deceit.

Tshabangu Defends Own Presence At Independence Celebrations

By A Correspondent

In a move that has sparked significant controversy and debate, Sengezo Tshabangu, the interim Secretary General of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), defended his decision to attend Zimbabwe’s Independence Day celebrations at Murambinda Growth Point in Buhera.

Tshabangu’s presence at the event, which is largely associated with the ruling Zanu PF party, has raised eyebrows and led to accusations that he is aligning himself with President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration.

Tshabangu, who has been criticized for his role in recalling elected MPs and councillors, vehemently defended his attendance at the Independence Day festivities, asserting that it was an act of patriotism rather than political allegiance.

He emphasized the importance of distinguishing between national interests and partisan politics, highlighting that Zimbabwe’s independence is a matter of collective pride and should transcend political divisions.

In a statement justifying his participation, Tshabangu stated, “Yesterday I was honored to attend our ‘National’ Independence Celebrations at Murambinda in Manicaland Province along with other fellow Zimbabweans. People must learn to differentiate between political issues and issues of national interest. It’s a fact that ‘Zimbabwe’ is Independent.”

Tshabangu’s remarks reflect a broader narrative within Zimbabwean politics, where the line between national unity and political polarization is often blurred.

His assertion that national interests should supersede political affiliations underscores a desire for unity and cohesion in a country grappling with deep-seated divisions.

Despite being labeled as a Zanu PF proxy by critics, Tshabangu maintained that his actions were driven by a genuine love for Zimbabwe and a commitment to celebrating the nation’s achievements.

He declared, “I’ll love my Country Zimbabwe with all my heart.

I’ll support everything that has a flavor of national interest like the upcoming independence celebrations scheduled for this Thursday in Murambinda. National interests must always overtake politics.”

The controversy surrounding Tshabangu’s participation underscores broader tensions within the opposition movement, highlighting divergent approaches to engaging with the ruling establishment. While some view his attendance as an attempt to cozy up to Mnangagwa’s government, others interpret it as a strategic effort to bridge political divides in the pursuit of national unity.

Critics argue that Tshabangu’s actions undermine the opposition’s stance against the ruling party and erode trust among supporters.

However, supporters defend his decision as a pragmatic move aimed at fostering dialogue and reconciliation in a polarized political landscape.

The debate ignited by Tshabangu’s attendance at the Independence Day celebrations underscores the complexities of Zimbabwe’s political dynamics, where symbolism and gestures carry significant weight.

Moving forward, the incident serves as a catalyst for introspection within the opposition ranks, prompting a reassessment of strategies and priorities in the pursuit of democratic governance.

Sengezo Tshabangu’s defense of his controversial Independence Day attendance highlights the intricacies of navigating politics in Zimbabwe.

His insistence on prioritizing national interests over partisan agendas reflects a nuanced understanding of unity and reconciliation in a country marked by political divisions. The episode underscores the ongoing quest for consensus and cohesion in Zimbabwean politics, as stakeholders grapple with the complexities of post-independence governance.

Kwekwe Buildings Collapse Due To Mining Underneath

The Undermining of Kwekwe: How Illegal Mining Threatens a Zimbabwean Community

In the heart of Zimbabwe, Kwekwe, President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s hometown, is facing an unprecedented crisis. The city, known for its rich gold deposits, is now suffering from a dangerous and illegal exploitation of its resources.

Building collapses underneath

A network of illicit mining activities, referred to locally as “korokozas,” is causing significant distress. These underground operations have dug extensive tunnels, some as deep as 1.5 kilometers beneath Kwekwe’s central business district and residential areas, posing a severe risk to the community and its infrastructure.

A recent study by the Zimbabwe National Geospatial and Space Agency (ZINGSA) employed advanced geospatial mapping techniques to reveal the extent of these hazardous excavations. The results are alarming: a sprawling labyrinth of tunnels, undermining pillars essential for structural support, has been exposed. This underground network threatens not only the stability of the city’s foundations but also the safety of its residents.

“The mapping has shown us the severity of the situation. We are literally sitting on a ticking time bomb,” said a ZINGSA official, who wished to remain anonymous due to the sensitivity of the information. “Our findings indicate that these illegal activities are compromising the structural integrity of buildings and could lead to disastrous collapses.”

The illegal miners, driven by the soaring prices of gold, often target the support pillars within these underground passages. This reckless endangerment has already had dire consequences. In March of the previous year, a classroom block at Globe and Phoenix Primary School succumbed to these subterranean stresses, collapsing into a sinkhole created by nearby blasting activities. “It was a miracle that no lives were lost,” remarked a teacher from the school, her voice heavy with the memory of the near-tragedy.

The environmental impact is equally troubling. The proliferation of sinkholes and the vibrations from unchecked blasting are not just a threat to immediate safety but also pose long-term hazards to the city’s water supply and ecological balance.

Community leaders and activists are calling for urgent government intervention. “We need action now to prevent further damage and ensure the safety of our citizens,” stated a local community leader during a town hall meeting. “Kwekwe deserves better than to be undermined, both literally and figuratively, by these illegal operations.”

However, addressing this issue is complex. The korokozas are often locals driven to desperation by economic hardships, turning to illegal mining as a means of survival. “It’s a catch-22 situation,” explained an economic analyst. “While these miners are destroying the city, they are also part of our community, trying to make a living in a depressed economy.”

The government has pledged to crack down on illegal mining activities and is discussing measures to reinforce affected structures and monitor the regions most at risk. But for many residents of Kwekwe, these promises come too late. The damage done is a grim reminder of the consequences of neglecting environmental and structural stewardship in the pursuit of immediate economic gain.

As Kwekwe stands on precarious ground, the call for sustainable mining practices and strict enforcement of regulations has never been more urgent. The city’s future, along with the well-being of its inhabitants, depends on it.- Ziana

Corruption Scandal Deepens at Cottco, Zimbabwe

In a devastating turn of events, Cottco, once celebrated as the cornerstone of Zimbabwe’s agricultural sector, is engulfed in a severe corruption scandal that threatens its very survival. Recent allegations have implicated several senior managers in schemes involving the theft of farming inputs, fuel, and cotton products, plunging the company into chaos.

Over the past year, a disturbing pattern of mismanagement and corruption has led to the suspension or resignation of key figures within the company, including the recent suspension of the loss control manager, Mr. Tonodaishe Hove, accused of mishandling investigations and obstructing justice.

Cottco’s chairperson, Mr. Sifelani Jabangwe, confirmed that multiple internal and police-led investigations are underway. These probes are focused on a broad spectrum of abuses, including theft of resources crucial for cotton production. The investigations are now expanding to include all business units in a sweeping effort to restore order and transparency.

This ongoing crisis hits at a critical time for Cottco, which had been on a recovery path after government intervention in 2014 helped stabilize the company following a previous financial crisis. Cotton production had improved significantly under the revitalization plan, but these gains are now at risk as the current leadership vacuum and the board’s expired term add to the instability.

The Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water, and Rural Development has acknowledged the gravity of the situation, with Permanent Secretary Prof Obert Jiri citing severe issues with the abuse of cotton supplies.

As Cottco grapples with these challenges, the implications for local farmers and the broader agricultural sector are profound. The corruption scandal not only jeopardizes the livelihoods of those dependent on cotton farming but also risks derailing the progress made in reviving this vital industry in Zimbabwe.

Chivhayo Boasts Of Dubious Wealth

By Showbiz Reporter- Zanu PF apologist and controversial businessman Wicknell Chivayo says he is working toward being the first Zimbabwean billionaire at the age of 45, without, however, disclosing his source of wealth.

Chivhayo told a private daily newspaper that the donations of cars to celebrities he is doing was a fulfilment of such a dream.

The Zanu PF apologist fronting the ruling party’s new 2028 campaign is being used by the party to donate flashy cars to well-known musicians and celebrities.

“Inini ndinochengetwa netsanaguro dzekuMasowe. I have received a number of prophecies over my life and one which stands out is that I am going to be a billionaire,” he said.
“Ndakanorara mugomo kwaMurehwa praying for the fulfilment of this prophecy and it is coming to pass. I was, however, strictly advised nemweya kuti ndisazofa ndakasiya kubetsera vanhu. So I will never stop helping people as this will also open my blessings in becoming the youngest billionaire in Zimbabwe.”
He added: “I look forward to another interview very soon when I become the first billionaire in Zimbabwe under the age of 45.”
The Zanu PF party apologist, who can be rather aggressive online, disclosed that the money he lavishes on others from his own resources and the assistance won’t empty his fat wallet.
“So it is from my personal savings and other earnings that I can choose to be generous and undertake various charitable work. What I have been blessed with to this day is not of my own abilities, but by the grace of God. Blessing other people through what I have been given by God can never deplete or dent my pocket.
“Showing love is like sowing seeds in a field. You reap a hundred-fold when the field eventually bears fruit. So long as ndichipfeka nguwo chena, Baba Johane varinyenyedzi yangu, handichoboke, hazviite,” he added.
Chivayo said being a public figure comes with a fair share of complications, disclosing that he can hardly walk in town without attracting a crowd or without random fans asking for money or cars.
He, however, said apart from some people praising him for his good deeds, others have the habit of antagonising him or hurling insults on social media on the pretext of unfounded allegations.
“I have over the years developed a thick skin, semughetto boy wekuChitungwiza and I am not affected at all by pejorative reactions to my public standing,” Chivayo said.
While there have been flashy businesspeople who like showing off their money throughout the years, such as Philip Chiyangwa, Passion Java and Genius “Ginimbi” Kadungure, Chivayo popularly known as Sir Wicknell, seems to have raised the bar higher.
Last month, he increased the stakes by purchasing a brand-new S500 Mercedes-Benz for musician Jah Prayzah, which was reportedly valued at US$180 000.
Hardly a week had passed since his first act of kindness when he made another move and this time purchased Suluman Chimbetu a brand-new 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLE 300, which is expected to fetch US$140 000.
He also shelled US$155 000 on a Mercedes-Benz GLE400d for musician Sandra Ndebele.
The court of public opinion initially discounted these gestures as mere publicity gimmicks.
But the man seems undaunted.
Critics say Chivayo could have used the money to turn around the health sector which is in shambles, but he believes people are sent for different missions and one has to do what his heart tells him to do.
He has also donated US$1 million to the Zion Christian Church which is well-known for its developmental projects around the country.
The church has over the years built schools, dams and constructed roads in their area of operations, which pushed Chivayo to add a “token of appreciation” to help the church continue with the projects.

Gold Needs To Be Respected For ZiG To Survive

By Dr Masimba Mavaza| There are several types of commodity-backed money, including the gold standard. Under the gold standard, the value of a currency is directly linked to a specific amount of gold. Countries that use the gold standard allow for the exchange of currency for gold at a fixed rate. The gold standard is a monetary system backed by the value of physical gold. Gold coins, as well as paper notes backed by or which can be redeemed for gold, are used as currency under this system. The gold standard was popular throughout human civilization, often as part of a bi-metallic system that also utilized silver. Most of the world’s economies have abandoned the gold standard since the 1930s and now have free-floating fiat currency regimes.

**How the Gold Standard Works**

The gold standard is a monetary system where a country’s currency or paper money has a value directly linked to gold. With the gold standard, countries agree to convert paper money into a fixed amount of gold. By holding the piece of paper called ZIG, you will be holding a value of gold. Gold is represented by ZIG; in short, ZIG is the representative of actual gold. The gold standard is a fixed monetary regime under which the government’s currency is fixed and may be freely converted into gold. It can also refer to a freely competitive monetary system in which gold or bank receipts for gold act as the principal medium of exchange; thus, the gold standard is a monetary system in which the value of a country’s currency is directly linked to gold.

With the gold standard, Zimbabwe agrees to convert paper money into a fixed amount of gold. Since we now use the gold standard, it sets a price for gold, and it buys and sells gold at that price. That fixed price is, in turn, used to determine the value of our currency. For example, if we hypothetically set the price of gold at $500 an ounce, the value of the dollar would be 1/500th of an ounce of gold. We must remember that England was the first country to officially implement the gold standard, coinciding with its large discoveries of the metal. So, the criticism of ZIG is highly misplaced.

Zimbabwe is not wandering in the pool of confusion. ZIG follows The Bretton Woods Agreement, which established that the U.S. dollar was the dominant reserve currency, and that the dollar was convertible to gold at the fixed rate of $35 per ounce. It was only in 1971 that President Nixon of America terminated the convertibility of the U.S. dollar to gold.

The appeal of a gold standard is that it arrests control of the issuance of money out of the hands of imperfect human beings. With the physical quantity of gold acting as a limit to issuance, a society can potentially avoid the perils of inflation.

A country that uses the gold standard sets a fixed price for gold and buys and sells gold at that price. That fixed price is used to determine the value of the currency. For example, if the U.S. sets the price of gold at $500 an ounce, the value of the dollar would be 1/500th of an ounce of gold. The gold standard developed a nebulous definition over time but is generally used to describe any commodity-based monetary regime that does not rely on un-backed fiat money, or money that is only valuable because the government forces people to use it. Beyond that, however, there are major differences.

Some gold standards only rely on the actual circulation of physical gold coins and bars, or bullion, but others allow other commodities or paper currencies. Recent historical systems only granted the ability to convert the national currency into gold, thereby limiting the inflationary and deflationary ability of banks or governments. Many people have asked why Zimbabwe chose gold when it has so many minerals. This is because most commodity-money advocates choose gold as a medium of exchange due to its intrinsic properties. Gold has non-monetary uses, especially in jewelry, electronics, and dentistry, so it should always retain a minimum level of real demand.

It is perfectly and evenly divisible without losing value, unlike diamonds, and does not spoil over time. It is impossible to counterfeit perfectly and has a fixed stock—there is only so much gold on Earth, and inflation is limited to the speed of mining. Because of this, Zimbabwe needs to control the speed of mining and control the distribution of gold. Gold has to be made scarce so that its demand will increase. The time of the Makorokoza must be over. We must start respecting our gold so that ZIG will be accepted.

Sengezo Tshabangu Defends Controversial Independence Day Attendance

Investor Confidence Soars as Zimbabwe Embarks on Financial Restructuring

Zimbabwe’s journey to revitalize its economy is a tale of resilience, strategic reforms, and steadfast commitment to redefine and establish its position on the global stage. The nation’s struggles in financial restructuring and policy reformulation aim to stabilize and strengthen an environment for investment, economic growth, and sustainable development. Attracting foreign investments is another country’s aim to ensure stable economic growth in the long run. Let’s overview Zimbabwe’s current economic landscape and examine these reforms’ impact on investor confidence, economic performance, and future trends.

Economic Resilience and the Path to Reform

If we examine successful countries who managed to establish strong economies and become developed, they all have one thing in common, fast and efficient adoption of new technologies. Fintechs in Zimbabwe, which have the potential to impact the country’s economic growth profoundly, are employing cutting-edge technology. Some tools used by these fintechs typically optimize operations and trading activities within the country. Two major platforms widely used when it comes to accelerating access to global financial markets are cTrader and MetaTrader 5 (MT5). The debate of whether is cTrader better than MT5 for Forex and commodity trading resonates not just with individual traders, but also at the macroeconomic level. Optimal trading platforms can enhance foreign investment inflows and financial market stability, which is the number one priority for central banks and economic ministries.

Currency Reforms in Zimbabwe

At the core of the Zimbabwean financial overhaul is to manage the currency instability strategically. This includes reintroducing the Zimbabwean dollar and exploring asset-backed currency options, including gold. The main guiding principle of this exploration is the market-driven exchange rate. While it may seem very strange and a waste of time to switch back to gold-backed currency, for Zimbabwe it could have limited benefits of allowing for more stability of its currency. Zimbabwe has grappled with significant economic hurdles over the years, such as hyperinflation and currency volatility. In a bold move, the government has decided to comprehensive financial restructuring efforts to address these challenges head-on.

IMF’s Role and Recommendations

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is playing a pivotal role in shaping the Zimbabwean reform agenda, especially emphasizing currency stabilization and governance improvements to direct the country towards macroeconomic stability.

Inflation and Fiscal Consolidation

Combating soaring inflation rates proved to be tricky for the government of Zimbabwe, and they started to implement measures aimed at curbing currency depreciation. Fiscal consolidation efforts have also been made, demonstrating a clear commitment to economic stability and growth.

External Debt and Arrears Clearance

The external debt of Zimbabwe also needs to be addressed, which has been increasing in recent years. Zimbabwe has put forth an Arrears Clearance, Debt Relief, and Restructuring Strategy, pivotal for rebuilding financial health and fostering investor confidence.

Re-engagement with the International Community

Zimbabwe’s application for a Staff Monitored Program (SMP) with the IMF signals its dedication to adopting sound economic policies and reconnecting with the international financial community. This reconnection is very important to promote the stability of the country’s currency and financial sector.

Despite efforts to reform the financial system, Zimbabwe faces challenges in securing financial support from international institutions like the IMF, because of unresolved external arrears and the overarching need for comprehensive debt restructuring.

Investor Confidence and Economic Prospects

Investor confidence is a major indicator of a country’s financial health. The significance of structural reforms for sustainable growth in Zimbabwe requires an understanding of the broader economic context and the specific measures.

Growing Investor Confidence

Several key factors contributed to the revitalization of investor confidence in Zimbabwe, such as economic stabilization efforts, engagement with international financial bodies, and legal and governance reforms. Currency reforms were undertaken to tackle the hyperinflation. The reintroduction of the Zimbabwean dollar and the adoption of a multi-currency system have been central to these efforts. The country has been re-engaged with international financial institutions, including the IMF and the World Bank. The country’s pursuit of SMP with the IMF showed how serious Zimbabwe’s government got with these efforts to finally stop the hyperinflation and stabilize local financial markets. Zimbabwe has also initiated legal and governance reforms such as the Zimbabwe Investment and Development Agency (ZIDA) Act, aiming to streamline business registration processes and offer incentives to foreign investors. The ZIDA website and legal repositories provide detailed information on these reforms.

Structural Reforms for Sustainable Growth

Zimbabwe is also committed to structural reforms to enhance the efficiency and competitiveness of the country’s economy. The ultimate goal of these efforts is to make Zimbabwe attractive to foreign investors and promote the inflow of money from abroad. The country has managed to improve the rank of doing business according to the World Bank’s Doing Business reports.

Zimbabwe has also taken steps to enhance transparency and accountability by disclosing the mining contracts and revenues. The establishment of Special Economic Zones (SEZs) and investment in infrastructure development are part of Zimbabwe’s strategy to increase the attractiveness of the country’s economy to foreign investors.

Chiwenga Loses Military Grip

By Political Reporter – Vice President Constantino Chiwenga continues to lose grip on military power, with his prospects of ascending to the presidency deteriorating as assassinations and purges on his closest allies by President Emerson Mnangagwa increase.

The recent targeted killings have sent shockwaves through Zimbabwe, particularly among those who vividly recall Chiwenga’s pivotal role in the ousting of the late President Robert Mugabe in November 2017.

During that tumultuous time, Chiwenga was the bold orchestrator of a historic coup, ushering in a new era of political uncertainty.

Among the slain military stalwarts are the esteemed figures of Sibusiso Moyo and Perence Shiri, whose deaths remain shrouded in mystery.

These men stood shoulder to shoulder with Chiwenga during the zenith of his power, only to meet their untimely demise under suspicious circumstances.

There had been a tacit agreement in the corridors of power within Zanu PF: Mnangagwa would serve one term, paving the way for Chiwenga to assume the presidency.

Yet, Mnangagwa, encouraged by his position, now defiantly proclaims his intent to cling to power well beyond the originally envisaged timeline, stretching his tenure into the unforeseeable future.

A disturbing pattern has emerged since the coup that reshaped Zimbabwe’s political landscape.

High-ranking military officials have met their end in a series of inexplicable road accidents, conveniently eliminating potential challengers to Mnangagwa’s authority.

The most recent tragedy unfolded just outside Battlefields, a stone’s throw from President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s opulent Precabe Farm.

Brigadier General Augustine Chipwere, the voice of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, solemnly confirmed the incident, his words laden with grief and disbelief.

“In a devastating blow to our ranks, we mourn the loss of Brigadier General Shadreck Vezha, Major Thabani Ncube, Major Mqondisi Gumbo, and Sergeant Chakabaiwa, who tragically perished in a fatal road accident on April 16, 2024,” Brigadier General Chipwere conveyed in an official statement broadcast through state media.

The circumstances surrounding the accident raise troubling questions.

Preliminary findings suggest Brigadier General Vezha’s ill-fated attempt to overtake an unidentified vehicle led to a collision with another car, resulting in multiple casualties.

However, scepticism lingers, fueling speculation of foul play orchestrated to maintain Mnangagwa’s stranglehold on power.

Brigadier General Shadreck Vezha, once lauded for his service on the international stage, joins the ranks of other fallen heroes whose valorous deeds have been overshadowed by the sinister shadows of political intrigue.

As the nation mourns their loss, whispers of discontent grow louder, echoing the sentiments of those who fear the erosion of democracy and the rise of tyranny in Zimbabwe’s troubled landscape.

Chinese Businessman Kidnapped In Harare

By Crime and Courts, Reporter-Elleven Men have been arrested and appeared in court for kidnapping a Chinese business person in Harare.

The suspects also demanded a US$ 120,000 ransom from the Chinese businessman’s relatives.

Guo Zairen (34), Wang Gao (40), Primrose Miga (34), Charles Matondo (46), Tonderai Naison Kaja (34), Charles Notice (34), Christopher Chirombe (34), O’brian Miti (31), Simbarashe Kumba (24), Carlington Konselia (28) and Oswel Tinotenda Tsikai (29), were facing kidnapping charges when they appeared before Harare magistrate Mr Dennis Mangosi.

The State opposed bail, arguing the suspects could flee the court’s jurisdiction.

Investigating officer Detective Gentle Tapererwa said the 11 were not proper candidates for bail.

“Some of the accused persons exhibited signs that they are capable of fleeing if freed since they tried to escape from police officers,” he said.

Mr Mangosi deferred the matter to Monday for bail ruling.

The court heard that on April 17 at around 3pm, the suspects hatched a plan to kidnap the complainant and demand a ransom.

Acting in common purpose, five of the suspects and Tendai Notice, who is still at large, went to a Chinese restaurant in Belgravia driving a white Toyota Fortuner whose registration numbers are unknown, but was being driven by Guo.

They also had a Toyota Belta, whose registration number is also unknown, but was being driven by Tendai Notice.

The complainant, Cheng Song, was at the restaurant having lunch with his friend, Tu Muqing. Guo and Wang allegedly showed Kaja, Chirombe and Miti, the complainant who in-turn confronted him and introduced themselves as police officers.

The suspects then claimed that Cheng was under arrest, but did not notify him of his offence.

The court heard that the suspects handcuffed him and forced him into their Toyota Belta and drove away, leaving Tu Muqing behind.

The suspects took Cheng to House Number 1, Montenes Drive, Mandara, Harare, where Miga, Matondo, Kumba, Konselia and Tsikai were waiting for them.

Tu Muqing then phoned and informed Cheng’s cousin sister, Wang Yanan, that Cheng had been arrested by police officers.

Cheng sent his Google maps location to Wang Yanan, through a Chinese WeChat internet platform, seeking assistance from her.

Wang Yanan contacted Superintendent Victor Phiri of the Zimbabwe Republic Police and sought assistance to be escorted to the said police station.

It is alleged that Supt Phiri met with Wang Yanan and on checking the Google maps location, he discovered that it was showing a place in a bushy area adjacent to Chikurubi Maximum Prison and that there were no police stations closeby.

At that moment, Wang Yanan received a phone call on her WeChat platform from Cheng who told her that he was being held hostage by the suspects and that they were prohibiting him from using ordinary voice calls or the WhatsApp platform.

Cheng further told her that the suspects were demanding a ransom of US$120 000, which was to be delivered to them promptly to ensure he was not going to be harmed by them, and eventually be deported.

It is alleged that after about 15 minutes, the suspects used Cheng’s cell phone and contacted Wang Yanan and ordered her to drive to the Google maps location.

Supt Phiri alerted CID Homicide Harare of the kidnapping and extortion and they swiftly reacted and waylaid the suspects at the given Google maps location.

Charles Notice, Chirombe, Konselia and Tsikai arrived driving a Toyota Fortuner, registration number AEN 4346, and ordered Wang Yanan to follow their vehicle and they drove off at high speed.

Police detectives followed the suspects’ vehicle and drove along Arcturus Road, Greendale, and identified themselves as police detectives, before ordering them to pullover.

It is the State’s case that the suspects increased the speed of their vehicle in an effort to evade arrest, prompting police officers to fire warning shots, but they continued driving at high speed.

This resulted in the police officers firing towards the vehicle, leading to the driver losing control and plunging into a ditch. They were then arrested.

The court heard that the suspects led the police to House Number 1, Montenes Drive in Mandara where they found Cheng being guarded by some of the suspects.

He was then rescued by the police.

Shumba pushes for united opposition to engage Zanu PF

By A Correspondent| Africa First Movement (AFM) Welcome Shumba is pushing for all opposition parties to come together and engage President Emmerson Mnangagwa in a fruitful dialogue.

In a statement Shumba said opposition parties need to come together and approach the ruling party.

“We were happy that all opposition parties came and attend the independence celebrations addressed by His Excellency President Mnangagwa. This spirit must continue, we are all Zimbabweans we need to work together. We are not enemies we all want to see Zimbabwe prosper. Politics of denigrating national leaders is over.

“In the same spirit we are pushing for all opposition parties to unite and make sure that we help the government with one hand. There is need for mutual respect in opposition and no need for big brother mentality. We as opposition through unity Zanu PF will respect our voice, the ruling party cannot take disintegrated opposition seriously. We all need to respect that President Mnangagwa won the election and we engage him respectfully” Shumba said

Recently Shumba appealed to President Emmerson Mnangagwa to call for an urgent Political Actors Dialogue (Polad) meeting in order to address the current economic challenges.

In a statement recently Shumba said other political party leaders must play a crucial role in addressing the economic challenges.

“I call upon President ED Mnangagwa to urgently consider calling back POLAD to share advises in tackling the economic challenges currently facing the country especially the runaway inflation, price instability and exchange rate volatility.

“While we applaud the appointment of the new reserve bank governor in accordance with the RBZ Act, we think the burden should not only be shouldered on him but should be spread to other political and economic players to urgently bring economic stability and help to achieve Vision 2030.
He added that with Polad is ready to put hands on the deck in a bid to help President Mnangagwa.

“POLAD is a tried and tested Institution which has proved itself during it’s engagement with the government between 2019 and 2022 where the economy was fairly stable as compared to the current situation where POLAD is no longer sharing political and economic notes with the government.

“There is danger of having the inflation running out of control if there is no broader engagement with all stakeholders. POLAD has proved itself despite unjustified criticism from the western sponsored political parties and it should be given another chance before the economy run out of control.”

Speaking after announcing his new cabinet last year, Mnangagwa said Polad remains a useful platform.

“The Polad platform was extremely useful, it was a platform where other political parties who participated in the 2018 general elections did not make it and through the Polad platform we were able to interact and exchange views across the board, on the entire framework of Government, and we were able to discuss without limitation.

“I thought it was a very good platform for Zimbabweans to come together and share. I think this platform will continue so that all the political parties that contested will come on board and we will continue the practice, it was very helpful from my point of view as President,” Mnangagwa said.
