BULAWAYO Giants, Highlanders thumped new-boys Chegutu Pirates three nil this Sunday to create breathing space between themselves and the chasing pack in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer league.
A ruthless Highlanders side mercilessly wrecked the ship of Chegutu Pirates on Sunday as they thrashed the Chegutu-based Premier Soccer League debutants by three-goals-to-nil.
It was a hard lesson for Dzinza reZaire when they faced the big boys as they were bullied thanks to a brace from Brighton Ncube and another strike from Lynoth Chikuhwa.

By Political Reporter-Zanu PF President Emerson Mnangagwa has spoken out on the division he is causing in the opposition.
In an exclusive interview with “The Third Eye” magazine, the President said he is enjoying the fights in the opposition as that will ensure a weak opponent that cannot challenge Zanu PF.
On his opinion on the factional wars, which have seen the Western-birthed opposition crumbling like a deck of cards, the President said, “I laugh and enjoy”.
“Look, I am the head of a political party. If my opponents are fighting, I laugh and enjoy. Why would I bother to say I want a very strong opposition that can challenge me?
“It’s good to have an opposition. Our laws allow opposition, that is why opposition parties are here. They have their internal conflicts and internal difficulties. It’s legitimate to them. They must resolve their problems. They cannot expect Zanu PF to go and intervene and say, ‘Look, you are becoming weaker and weaker, and this is not good for us.’ NO! After losing last year’s harmonised elections to Zanu PF, CCC has been trapped in bloodletting factional wars that have been characterised by recalls from Parliament and local authorities.

Asked to comment on assertions by opposition officials and their supporters that they have been infiltrated, the President said the solution is just to remove the infiltrators.
“They should remove those who have infiltrated them (laughs). That is the only solution. Just remove them.”
Further, the President said the governing party, which brought democracy and political pluralism to the country after a protracted liberation struggle, cannot pass laws that stop people from holding different opinions or views. “If people don’t understand each other and can’t work together, they will say so. You can’t put a law that says don’t differ (laughs).”
On the international stage, the President railed at the American government for ignoring the genocidal massacre of Palestinians in Gaza by Israel, and then in forked tongues lecture to Zimbabwe about democracy and human rights.
“This is why we have said America applies double standards. This is a clear example of double standards. There is nothing about (abuse of) human rights you can speak of here in Zimbabwe, totally.
“We are a free, democratic country. We allow the opposition and we allow elections. If America wants to know where democracy is practised, they should come to Harare. They should come to Zimbabwe and see democracy in practice.”
Zimbabwe, for daring to correct colonial land inequities, was slapped with illegal economic sanctions by the Western world, which made it clear that the punitive embargoes were a tool for regime change.
Recently, the US made some piecemeal adjustments on the illegal sanctions but the President said that is still unacceptable as they must be removed in toto.
“Well, these sanctions have been placed on us since 2001. It’s now about 23 years on. These sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe are illegal. That is the position also of the United Nations Security Council. Now, the Biden administration proposed to remove some of them and leave some of them on.
“We are saying no. In the first place, they are totally illegal. They must go in totality. We cannot feel that he is being benevolent by removing part of the illegality and leaving part of the illegality on us. The illegality must go in total,” he said.
“These sanctions have been on us for more than 23 years. I don’t think there is anybody in Zimbabwe who is losing sleep over the sanctions. We only get reminded of the sanctions when people talk about them. We don’t feel that we are on sanctions,” said the President.
In the interview, the President maintained Zimbabwe will continue on its engagement and re-engagement drive on the international front while pursuing policies for accelerated industrialisation and modernisation towards Vision 2030.

By Staff Reporter- A building in the central Chinhoyi business district has been burnt to ashes.
The building was burnt after a fire broke in the CBD, destroying wares, including electrical gadgets and furniture, leaving shop and stall owners counting their losses.
An electrical fault is suspected to have caused the fire, destroying television sets, radios, and fans among other items.
Chinhoyi Municipality fire brigade working with members of the community managed to douse the fire but the wares could not be salvaged.
Onlookers said the fire started when everyone in the shop had closed and gone home.
“We first noticed some smoke coming out of the closed shop before the fire broke window panes,” said a man at the scene.
“We had two fire tenders coming through but there was a technical glitch, which delayed the process to put out the fire. The community, including touts had to chip in.”
By Political Reporter- The Mayor of Chinhoyi, Owen Charuza has been involved in a serious accident.
The accident happened this morning near Mapinga escarpment when the mayor was on his way to Harare for council business.
While Mayor Charuza and his driver escaped death by a whisker, the council-owned Nissan Hardbody vehicle was extensively damaged after it was rammed by a haulage truck from behind while giving way to a vehicle in front.
Council spokesperson, Mr Tichaona Mlauzi confirmed the accident but could not shed more light while provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Ian Kohwera was yet to get information from police on the ground.
Mayor Charuza who was rushed to Mutorashanga Clinic for medical attention, sustained injuries on his hand, chest and neck.

CAPS United coach Lloyd Chitembwe, has heavily criticised the standard of officiating in the Premier Soccer League (PSL), saying the country’s top-flight league is now a ‘comic show’.
Makepekepe fans invaded the pitch during their league match against FC Platinum at Mandava Stadium yesterday, after assistant referee Mncedisi Maposa raised his flag for offside, denying Ralph Kawondera the equaliser in the 86th minute.
Furious CAPS fans could not wait for referee Lloya Mapanje to consult his assistant and stormed the pitch in protest, leading to a 20-minute stoppage and subsequent abandonment of the match.
Chitembwe was naturally not happy with the offside decision and blasted the level of officiating in the PSL.
“Such has been the problem in our football, where the wrong man takes centre stage. It’s just unfortunate and it has probably reduced this PSL to a comic show and it’s very unfortunate,” Chitembwe told journalists after the game.
“Week in week out, people are always complaining about poor officiating. It’s something that needs to be eradicated from our game if aspire to be a pure football nation.
“It’s very disappointing to see a referee taking centre stage for all wrong reasons. He (the assistant referee) has taken away an aportunity for this boy (Kawondera) to shine.
“That was a contender for goal of the season as far as I’m concerned. This has always been the case in Zimbabwe and I hope it comes to and end,” added Chitembwe.

By A Correspondent| Zanu PF has readmitted a Chipinge drug dealer who was once stopped from contesting for parliamentary elections after he was found with illicit beer inside his house.
According to Zanu PF Manicaland provincial chairperson Tawanda Mukodza, Robert Nyemudzo was re-admitted back into the party after his expulsion early last year.
Nyemudzo defeated Zanu PF Manicaland strongman Enock Porusingazi who later bounced back at the mercy of the party politburo which nullified the primary elections results.
Mukodza also announced tje expulsion and suspension of former Mutare North legislator, Mr Batsirayi Pemhenayi provincial Women’s League chairlady, Mrs Happiness Nyakuedzwa respectively.
Mukodza further said the ruling party had readmitted its former national secretary for youth affairs, Kudzi Chipanga, Robert Nyemudzo, of Chipinge South and pride Chadambuka.
Highlanders coach Kelvin Kaindu has noticed improvement in his squad after beating Chegutu Pirates 3-0 in Sunday’s Castle Lager Premiership Matchday 5 encounter at Barbourfields Stadium.
Bosso moved to the top of the table following the victory and are now three points clear, thanks to Brighton Ncube’s brace and a late strike from Lynoth Chikuhwa.
Ncube opened the scoring in the first minute of the first minute of the second half.
He netted his second second of the day on the hour before Chikuhwa sealed the victory three minutes from time.

In a recent incident at Ward 3 Redcliff Urban, St. Batholomeo Anglican Church Polling Station, Zanu PF Councillor Idiraishe Dongo reported a violent attack allegedly perpetrated by opposition supporters.
The councillor’s car, a Mercedes-Benz C200, was damaged when a stone thrown by an individual identified as Emmanuel Ndhlera Macheza shattered the passenger’s window.
Macheza, reportedly from Zvishavane’s No. 15A MaGlass area and known in the Mandava farming market, launched the attack just moments before the voting ended.
“The incident left Zanu PF Party Councillor Candidate Christina Sigauke injured, particularly concerning as she is pregnant and was seated in the passenger’s seat.
The stone struck her below her left breast, causing injury.
Councillor Dongo herself sustained a swollen arm during the attack, “a Zanu PF source claimed.
Speaking out about the incident, Councillor Dongo criticized the opposition’s alleged violent behavior, stating that they have targeted her and her vehicle throughout the day.
She emphasized the hypocrisy of their claims to uphold peace and non-violence.
The matter has been formally reported to the police under reference number RRB 5844299, as the investigation into this troubling event unfolds.
By A Correspondent| The Zimbabwe Coalition on Debt and Development (ZIMCODD) has said the introduction of a new currency by the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe has potential to succeed if the measure is implemented transparently and accountably.
In a statement, ZIMCODD believes that anchoring ZiG with reserve assets could offer a lasting solution to Zimbabwe’s currency woes, fostering industrial production, employment creation, price stability, and poverty reduction.
According to RBZ, ZiG replaces the Zimbabwe dollar (ZWL) as legal tender, circulating alongside other currencies like the USD. The currency conversion process involves utilizing the global price of gold and the ZWL interbank rate. With reserves totaling US$285 million, including gold and foreign currency holdings, the RBZ aims to maintain the stability of ZiG’s value.
“It means that from now on, ZiG’s money supply growth will only be limited to the growth of RBZ’s reserve asset holdings, ceteris paribus. So, hypothetically, this arrangement could restrict the ability of authorities to print ZiG willy-nilly. If this holds, the gold-backed ZiG will become a stable currency, thus clamping ongoing rapid dollarization of the economy.
“Generally, gold is considered a safe haven investment during downturns and financial crises because of its long history of use as a store of value. Its properties are helping it achieve this status: malleability, portability, aesthetic appeal, virtual indestructibility, universal acceptance, liquidity, and rarity,” said ZIMCODD.
However, the organisation raised concerns about potential challenges, such as illicit gold trading, which could undermine the accumulation of reserves critical for supporting ZiG’s value.
They stressed the importance of adopting advanced technologies for gold production tracking and monitoring to prevent such leakages.
ZIMCODD called for a comprehensive approach to address economic vulnerabilities, including potential spending pressures on the Treasury amid adverse conditions like global commodity price fluctuations and climate-induced droughts.
They cautioned that any increase in ZiG’s money supply must be supported by sufficient gold reserves to avoid devaluation.
The organization also called for independent audits of gold and USD reserves backing ZiG to build public trust and investor confidence, warning against repeating past mistakes, citing the rejection of bond coins and notes due to discrepancies between issued currency and reported reserves.
To ensure the success of ZiG, ZIMCODD advocated for broader reforms encompassing economic, governance, institutional, and structural aspects.

The penchant for critiquing all Government initiatives (no matter how good they are) especially by FAILED and FRAGMENTED opposition outfits must be IGNORED and focus must be turned on building our Nation BRICK by BRICK, STONE upon STONE.
Condemning the Second Republic’s brilliant policies is just the full time job for a FRACTION of opposition stooges, who posture themselves as anti-Zimbabwean and yet “pro-Western” for SELFISH and personal gain. Zimbabwe’s full potential and prowess cannot be held at ransom by the EMPTY conjecture of these few “opposition” figures who have failed to manage the financial affairs of their own DISINTEGRATED political parties but only succeeded in changing their names and identity every other year !
I extend my heartfelt CONGRATULATIONS to the Second Republic, ably led by H. E. MNANGAGWA on the introduction of the ZiG, that is truly a stroke of genius.

In a recent address, Emmerson Mnangagwa of Zimbabwe passionately advocated for the complete removal of sanctions imposed on his country, denouncing them as illegal and unjust.
“These sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe are illegal,” Mnangagwa declared, highlighting his firm stance against the economic measures that have significantly impacted the nation’s development and international relations.

Zanu PF has expelled former Mutare North legislator, Mr Batsirayi Pemhenayi and also suspended its provincial Women’s League chairlady, Mrs Happiness Nyakuedzwa from holding any position in the ruling party for the next two years.
Zanu PF provincial chairman, Cde Tawanda Mukodza on Wednesday confirmed Mr Pemhenayi’s expulsion and Mrs Nyakuedzwa’s suspension with immediate effect by the Politburo.
Cde Mukodza further said the ruling party had readmitted its former national secretary for youth affairs, Cde Kudzi Chipanga, Cde Robert Nyemudzo, of Chipinge South and Cde Pride Chadambuka. Cde Mukodza said Mr Pemhenayi expelled himself by joining a rival political party.

By A Correspondent| Academic Ibbo Mandaza has claimed that his staff member of 19 years was abducted and sexually abused while walking to work.
Posting on X, Mandaza said the employee was sprayed with a substance that rendered her unconscious before they sexually abused her.
“It has become to our notice, albeit in the worst circumstances imaginable when one of my members of staff and indeed mwana wangu of 19 years of age was abducted along Mazowe Street while walking to work at 8am last Thursday, rendered unconscious by some substance sprayed on her, and then sexually abused before left on the roadside to fend for herself. This is shocking and shameful enough, but to discover as we have that this criminal practice is rampant, and yet ZRP are silent about it is alarming,” said Mandaza.

Address by the Head of State and Government and Commander-In-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces His Excellency Dr ED Mnangagwa
It is my singular honour and privilege to join you today for the unveiling of this sacred site, the Kamungoma Liberation War Shrine, where 105 of our fellow brothers and sisters were brutally killed by the Rhodesian army on the 14th of May 1978.
We are gathered here today in Gutu District, which gave us luminaries of our liberation struggle, notable among them is the Soul of the Nation, the late National Hero and Vice President, Simon Vengai Muzenda.
This particular occasion is in honour of the communities, ordinary men and women, boys and girls, as well as veterans of the liberation struggle, who bore the brunt of the racist brutality by the white settler regime, in our quest for independence, democracy, freedom and self-determination.
Many of our people here in Gutu District and Masvingo Province as a whole were massacred and buried in shallow graves. Occasions such as this one are a solemn reminder to all of us that we must never forget our history.
It is, thus, befitting that as we remember those who perished here at Kamungoma, in a fortnight’s time, we will be commemorating our 44th Independence Day Anniversary in Murambinda, Manicaland Province.
May I now invite you all to rise and observe a minute of silence in honour of our dearly departed. May their souls continue to rest in eternal peace.
Our country experienced a brutal process of colonisation by the British, who oppressed communities in their unbridled quest to loot our resources and make our beloved nation an extension of the British Empire.
In so doing, our forefathers lost possession of their land, livestock and other productive assets, including key heritage artifacts that define us as a people.
The arrogance and disregard of the rights of the black majority were so brute to the extent that Ian Douglas Smith declared he did not believe in black majority rule ‘not in a thousand years’.
Driven by their desire to resist colonial occupation, our forebears waged the First Chimurenga, which saw numerous battles being fought across the country.
In particular, our gallant heroine Mbuya Nehanda, while on death row, remarked “Mapfupa angu achamuka”.
The country subsequently witnessed the upsurge of various forms of resistance, which eventually led to the Second Chimurenga/Umvukela.
The path was not easy for the thousands of sons and daughters that trekked into military camps in Mozambique, Zambia, Botswana, Angola and Tanzania.
The merciless bombings of innocent civilians in refugee camps in Zambia and Mozambique will forever be a painful part of our national history. Lest we forget.
Today, the Kamungoma Massacre is testimony of the extent to which the settler regime wanted to hold on to the governance space and architecture of our country, including pillaging our God-given resources.
‘Isu vana vaMunhumutapa takaramba zvekudzvanyirirwa.’
We are forever grateful to communities, whose political consciousness, clarity of vision and resolve saw us dismantle the white settler regime.
I commend, vana Chimbwido nana Mujibha vedu, who bravely and courageously undertook dangerous missions, including the task of reconnaissance and intelligence gathering to aid our war effort. Ndinokutendai mose.
The 14th of May 1978, remains a dark day in our country’s history as 104 innocent and unarmed civilians, as well as one guerrilla fighter, were killed.
On that fateful day, the liberation war fighters as ‘the fish’ and the people ‘as water’, were at a pungwe drumming up the support and solidarity of communities as well as instilling hope for the imminent freedom, independence and liberation from colonial oppression.
The indiscriminate attack saw teenagers and women, some being breastfeeding mothers, lose their precious lives.
The deceased were buried in shallow mass graves. Many survivors of the callous attack still carry with them the trauma, memories, wounds and pain.
These are the experiences that made us a free people and nation; a sovereign state in the comity of nations. We will never forget. Present generations are challenged to bring forward their knowledge and expertise, in whatever form, towards advancing our national development agenda right from the individual level.
I urge schools and universities, including our general citizenry, to take a keen interest in visiting such important places for a greater appreciation of our liberation war heritage.
We are a resilient people, ever prepared to defend and protect our country.
This spirit must never die. Yester-year we took up arms, today we are building our country in unity, brick by brick and stone upon stone, strengthened by the knowledge that Nyika inovakwa, inotongwa, inonamatigwa nevene vayo/ilizwe lakhiwa, libuswe, likhulekelwe ngabanikazi balo.
On Tribalism
We are one people, with one national flag and one national anthem. All of us belong to this beloved country.
Let us say no to regionalism, tribalism and all forms of divisions. This independence was realised because of the unity among our people. Let us protect it.
On El-Nino induced drought
Following the El Nino induced drought, which has led to a poor harvest, yesterday I declared a National State of Disaster.
I once again assure the people of our great motherland, Zimbabwe, that no one will die of hunger. In the days of our liberation struggle, we united against all odds to defeat the colonial regime.
With these remarks, it is now my singular honour and privilege to officially unveil the Kamungoma Liberation War Shrine.

As we emerge from the shadows of a nine-month ban, the hopes for a rejuvenated and cleanly administered football landscape seem to have been dashed, casting a long shadow of despair across the hearts of fans and stakeholders alike.
Historically, our football terrain has been marred by cycles of neglect, mismanagement, and outright destruction at the hands of successive leaderships. Today, these cycles appear to be repeating with alarming precision, as the same issues that once derailed our national football aspirations continue to rear their ugly heads under the current Normalisation Committee’s watch.
The committee’s efforts, which were initially met with optimism, have been overshadowed by accusations of reverting to old, destructive habits that once saw the football federation captured by a mafia-like grip. This grip, characterized by the hijacking of national team functions, the meddling in player and coach selection processes, and the creation of a nepotistic fiefdom, threatens to strangle the very essence of the game.
Reflecting on the first 10 months of Felton Kamambo’s tenure and his controversial decision to charter a plane for relatives, friends, and pastors to Egypt during the Afcon tournament in 2019, the parallels are striking. This blatant misuse of resources highlighted a governance style that favoured cronies over the grassroots developments desperately needed to nurture future talents.
Fast forward to the period between June 2023 and March 2024, and the Normalisation Committee, stationed at its new headquarters at 66 Bishop Gaul Rd, seems to have succumbed to the same pitfalls. Despite a bold move to avoid the ‘ghosts and demons’ of the past at 53 Livingstone Avenue, their stay has been marred by the rapid embrace of nepotism, corruption, and the exclusion of junior grassroots development programs from the allocation of resources.
The nocturnal appointment of unknown personnel in administrative, coaching, and management roles, along with allegations of bribery and corruption, have sparked outrage among the football community. Social media platforms, particularly those frequented by former footballers, are abuzz with discussions about the circulating list of personnel linked to cronyism and nepotism, further cementing the notion that history is indeed repeating itself.
As the Normalisation Committee stands accused of exacerbating the issues it was meant to resolve, the call for genuine reform and the dismantling of corrupt practices has never been louder. The football fraternity, disillusioned and outraged, watches on as the beautiful game continues to be plundered, begging the question: when will the cycle finally be broken?
By Jane Mlambo| Mbare market has embraced the new monetary measures announced by the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) Governor Dr John Mushayavanhu with the local Bond note now trading at par with the yet to be released ZiG currency.
At Mbare farmers market, most traders were exchanging US$1 for ZWL$13 000 while some were still accepting ZWL$10 000.
Previously US$1 was being exchanged with ZWL$6000 but following the announcement by the new Governor, Mbare traders woke up with a new rate which is likely to be adopted by the rest of the country.
By A Correspondent| The newly introduced ZiG notes and coins will only begin circulating from 30 April 2024, the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe has said.
In a statement last night, RBZ Governor Dr Mushayavanhu said the ZiG notes and coins were presently in production “and will start circulating in the economy on 30 April 2024” to allow the central bank “to undertake an intensive educational and awareness campaign on the key security features”.
“The campaign is expected to reach out to a wide spectrum of society consistent with the Reserve Bank’s financial inclusion thrust,” he said.
In an exclusive question-and-answer interview with a Zanu PF aligned magazine, President Emmerson Mnangagwa has indicated that speculation that the Constitution would be amended for him to run for another term was misplaced.
“Well, I am very happy that Zimbabweans are very imaginative,” he said.
“They can imagine about anything, which shows there is democracy in the country, you see.
“But we in ZANU PF are very democratic and we obey the Constitution.
“There is not an iota of evidence where ZANU PF or I, as President, has ever expressed the violation of our Constitution.
“But we allow people to dream properly or widely.
“They will still wake up and find things are working and the Constitution hasn’t changed.”
In terms of the Constitution, extending presidential term limits would require amending Section 91 of the supreme law, which disqualifies a person “for election as President or appointment as Vice President if he or she has already held office as President for two terms, whether continuous or not, and for the purpose of this subsection three or more years’ service is deemed to be a full term”.
The Bill containing the amendment must be passed by a two-thirds majority in both the National Assembly and the Senate.
However, Section 328 (7) does not allow an incumbent to extend the period he may hold office.
It reads: “Notwithstanding any other provision of this section, an amendment to a term-limit provision the effect of which is to extend the length of time that a person may hold or occupy any public office, does not apply in relation to any person who held or occupied that office, or an equivalent office, at any time before the amendment.”
In effect, amending Section 91 to extend presidential term limits will apply only to future Heads of State.
Section 328 (7) can only be amended through a referendum, as set out under Section 328 (9) of the Constitution.
The latest interview is the second time President Mnangagwa has publicly pronounced that he will not seek re-election.
In an interview with ZTN Prime on the eve of last year’s harmonised elections, he said: “I am going for my second term . . . this is my last term.
“I believe that my party in particular, ZANU PF, embraces our vision that, first and foremost, the stability of our country depends on us; the modernisation and industrialisation of our country depends on ourselves.
“People from outside can only come and support our programme.”
In the interview with “Brick by Brick”, the President, however, said in cases where governments intend to amend constitutions, due process has to be followed.
“A constitution is supposed to be made by the people of the country,” he added.
“Once you have come up with your own constitution, before you change it, you must comply with what it says.”
Constitutions, added President Mnangagwa, are changed “if you are not happy with what the constitution is saying”.
“The constitution doesn’t make the country,” he continued.
“It’s the country which makes the constitution.
“As long as your constitution is serving you well, keep it.
“If it’s not serving you well, you sit down and amend the provisions that no longer serve the interests of the country.
“We must be constitutional democracies, like ours.”
PREPARATIONS for the Independence Day celebrations which will be held in Buhera are now at an advanced stage, with ongoing works expected to be completed by the 16th of this month.
The 44th Independence Day celebrations are progressing well with Vice President Cde Kembo Mohadi impressed with the progress registered so far.
Vice President Mohadi and some cabinet ministers were on an assessment tour of the venue in Murambinda area of Buhera this Friday.
“Seeing is believing and I am impressed with what I have seen here. Everything seems to be going well. A few touch-ups are left and it’s promising. We have been given an update and we are quite happy with what we have seen here,” he said.
Manicaland Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Advocate Misheck Mugadza gave an update on the progress.
“All is in order and we are happy that we are successfully going to host the Independence celebrations. The main arena has been completed and a few works are left with the changing rooms. Everything is going well. Works are progressing well and by the 16th everything should be done as we wait for the celebrations,” he said.
Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development Honourable Felix Mhona weighed in with a progress report on road infrastructure.
“As construction works continue we have set a target to finish all feeder roads by the 10th of April. Roads at this time are critical for the accessibility of all the facilities to be used on the day of the celebrations. All is progressing well and come the day of the celebrations all will go on smoothly,” he noted.
With most of the major works having been completed, the authorities are confident that this year’s Uhuru celebrations are expected to be spectacular.

A couple has been charged with defrauding Sunday Chifamba, the proprietor of Pandhari Hotel, amounting to a significant loss of US$90,000. The accused, Usedia Zhuwaneti and Edzayi Arufaneti, were presented before the Harare magistrate Ethel Chichera, with Shepard Makonde representing them.
## Circumstances of the Fraud
The prosecution, led by State prosecutor Zebediah Bofu, outlined a premeditated scheme initiated in 2014 by the accused couple. Posing as shareholders of Anglovaal Investments Private Limited, they purportedly owned stand number 761 Glen Lorne Township of 41 of Glen Lorne, with rights allegedly secured under Deed of Transfer 9391/98 via the company. This claim set the stage for their fraudulent dealings with Mr. Chifamba.
In March 2014, swayed by the Zhuwanetis’ misrepresentations, Chifamba entered into a transaction to purchase stand number 761 Glen Lorne for US$90,000. The value of this property was misrepresented as equivalent to 200 shares in Anglovaal Investments (Pvt) Ltd, a claim that significantly influenced Chifamba’s decision to proceed with the purchase.
## Unraveling of the Scheme
The fraudulent nature of the transaction came to light in 2016 when Eelco Alexis Walraven, the actual owner of the property, surfaced. Walraven, who had initially sold the property to Anglovaal Investments in 2011 and reclaimed it due to non-fulfillment of payment terms by Anglovaal Investments (Pvt) Ltd, contested Chifamba’s ownership. The conflict culminated in June 2019 when Walraven secured a High Court order for Chifamba’s eviction from the property, thereby exposing the fraudulent transaction orchestrated by the Zhuwanetis.

The aftermath of the Zhuwanetis’ fraudulent activities has left Mr. Chifamba with a substantial financial loss of US$90,000, with no recoveries reported. Ronald Chitiyo has joined Malawian side Nyasa Big Bullets.
The winger has signed a three-year-contract contract with the defending champions after spending three weeks on trial.
He reunites with head coach Kalisto Pasuwa after working together at Dynamos FC and the Zimbabwe national team.
Speaking after signing the match, Chitiyo said: “I am very happy to join one of the biggest teams in Malawi.

Harare City Council Seeks Government Backing for CBD Building DemolitionsIn a significant urban development move, the Harare City Council has initiated a process that could lead to the demolition of some buildings within the city’s central business district (CBD).
This drastic measure follows the council’s recent issuance of a 14-day ultimatum demanding that all property owners and occupants revamp their buildings by making necessary repairs, refurbishments, or repainting to meet council standards.
The council’s push for more stringent regulations comes as they seek to enforce a cleaner, safer urban environment.
The Harare Town Clerk, Engineer Hosiah Chisango, detailed the council’s intentions in a recent interview, stating, “We have written to the Ministry of Local Government concerning the issue, and we are hoping they’ll release a Statutory Instrument to cement the issue, which will then give us authority to withdraw the building license for those who are failing to meet the standard.
“Chisango emphasized the dire state of some CBD buildings, pointing out that over 20 people can be found operating under one roof in facilities no longer suitable for the current occupancy.
“If anyone breaches that, we will withdraw trading licenses or close those buildings,” he warned.
The council has outlined its plan to target buildings along major city roads, including Robert Mugabe Road, Jason Moyo Avenue, and Samora Machel Avenue, among others.
The targeted areas are known for heavy pedestrian and vendor traffic, which exacerbates the safety and health risks associated with dilapidated buildings.“We are doing thorough inspections and we are working with the police,” Chisango added.
“We have noticed now that more than 20 or so people can be operating under one building. Now, the facilities are no longer adequate for the people in that building.
”Furthermore, the council is tackling issues with street vendors, who often spill out from overcrowded buildings, cluttering sidewalks and streets.
“We are doing that for safety issues. And there is this tendency where those people take their wares and display them outside. On that, we are working together with the police to remove vendors on the street,” Chisango explained.
Property owners have been given the option to submit their plans for the required improvements to the council, detailing what they intend to do and when.
This initiative by the Harare City Council seeks to not only improve the structural integrity and aesthetic of the CBD but also to ensure the safety and health of its occupants and visitors.
The next steps hinge on the government’s response to the council’s request for additional enforcement powers, which could redefine the cityscape of Harare’s central district.

Address by the Head of State and Government and Commander-In-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces His Excellency Dr ED Mnangagwa
It is my singular honour and privilege to join you today for the unveiling of this sacred site, the Kamungoma Liberation War Shrine, where 105 of our fellow brothers and sisters were brutally killed by the Rhodesian army on the 14th of May 1978.
We are gathered here today in Gutu District, which gave us luminaries of our liberation struggle, notable among them is the Soul of the Nation, the late National Hero and Vice President, Simon Vengai Muzenda.
This particular occasion is in honour of the communities, ordinary men and women, boys and girls, as well as veterans of the liberation struggle, who bore the brunt of the racist brutality by the white settler regime, in our quest for independence, democracy, freedom and self-determination.
Many of our people here in Gutu District and Masvingo Province as a whole were massacred and buried in shallow graves. Occasions such as this one are a solemn reminder to all of us that we must never forget our history.
It is, thus, befitting that as we remember those who perished here at Kamungoma, in a fortnight’s time, we will be commemorating our 44th Independence Day Anniversary in Murambinda, Manicaland Province.
May I now invite you all to rise and observe a minute of silence in honour of our dearly departed. May their souls continue to rest in eternal peace.
Our country experienced a brutal process of colonisation by the British, who oppressed communities in their unbridled quest to loot our resources and make our beloved nation an extension of the British Empire.
In so doing, our forefathers lost possession of their land, livestock and other productive assets, including key heritage artifacts that define us as a people.
The arrogance and disregard of the rights of the black majority were so brute to the extent that Ian Douglas Smith declared he did not believe in black majority rule ‘not in a thousand years’.
Driven by their desire to resist colonial occupation, our forebears waged the First Chimurenga, which saw numerous battles being fought across the country.
In particular, our gallant heroine Mbuya Nehanda, while on death row, remarked “Mapfupa angu achamuka”.
The country subsequently witnessed the upsurge of various forms of resistance, which eventually led to the Second Chimurenga/Umvukela.
The path was not easy for the thousands of sons and daughters that trekked into military camps in Mozambique, Zambia, Botswana, Angola and Tanzania.
The merciless bombings of innocent civilians in refugee camps in Zambia and Mozambique will forever be a painful part of our national history. Lest we forget.
Today, the Kamungoma Massacre is testimony of the extent to which the settler regime wanted to hold on to the governance space and architecture of our country, including pillaging our God-given resources.

We are forever grateful to communities, whose political consciousness, clarity of vision and resolve saw us dismantle the white settler regime.

On that fateful day, the liberation war fighters as ‘the fish’ and the people ‘as water’, were at a pungwe drumming up the support and solidarity of communities as well as instilling hope for the imminent freedom, independence and liberation from colonial oppression.
The indiscriminate attack saw teenagers and women, some being breastfeeding mothers, lose their precious lives.
The deceased were buried in shallow mass graves. Many survivors of the callous attack still carry with them the trauma, memories, wounds and pain.
These are the experiences that made us a free people and nation; a sovereign state in the comity of nations. We will never forget. Present generations are challenged to bring forward their knowledge and expertise, in whatever form, towards advancing our national development agenda right from the individual level.
I urge schools and universities, including our general citizenry, to take a keen interest in visiting such important places for a greater appreciation of our liberation war heritage.
We are a resilient people, ever prepared to defend and protect our country.
This spirit must never die. Yester-year we took up arms, today we are building our country in unity, brick by brick and stone upon stone, strengthened by the knowledge that Nyika inovakwa, inotongwa, inonamatigwa nevene vayo/ilizwe lakhiwa, libuswe, likhulekelwe ngabanikazi balo.
On Tribalism
We are one people, with one national flag and one national anthem. All of us belong to this beloved country.
Let us say no to regionalism, tribalism and all forms of divisions. This independence was realised because of the unity among our people. Let us protect it.
On El-Nino induced drought
Following the El Nino induced drought, which has led to a poor harvest, yesterday I declared a National State of Disaster.
I once again assure the people of our great motherland, Zimbabwe, that no one will die of hunger. In the days of our liberation struggle, we united against all odds to defeat the colonial regime.
With these remarks, it is now my singular honour and privilege to officially unveil the Kamungoma Liberation War Shrine.

PREPARATIONS for the Independence Day celebrations which will be held in Buhera are now at an advanced stage, with ongoing works expected to be completed by the 16th of this month.
The 44th Independence Day celebrations are progressing well with Vice President Cde Kembo Mohadi impressed with the progress registered so far.
Vice President Mohadi and some cabinet ministers were on an assessment tour of the venue in Murambinda area of Buhera this Friday.
“Seeing is believing and I am impressed with what I have seen here. Everything seems to be going well. A few touch-ups are left and it’s promising. We have been given an update and we are quite happy with what we have seen here,” he said.
Manicaland Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Advocate Misheck Mugadza gave an update on the progress.
“All is in order and we are happy that we are successfully going to host the Independence celebrations. The main arena has been completed and a few works are left with the changing rooms. Everything is going well. Works are progressing well and by the 16th everything should be done as we wait for the celebrations,” he said.
Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development Honourable Felix Mhona weighed in with a progress report on road infrastructure.
“As construction works continue we have set a target to finish all feeder roads by the 10th of April. Roads at this time are critical for the accessibility of all the facilities to be used on the day of the celebrations. All is progressing well and come the day of the celebrations all will go on smoothly,” he noted.
With most of the major works having been completed, the authorities are confident that this year’s Uhuru celebrations are expected to be spectacular.

In Lesotho, a small landlocked country surrounded by South Africa, tuberculosis (TB) has reached alarming proportions. With 661 incidents of TB cases for every 100,000 Basotho, the nation grapples with one of the highest TB rates globally.
TB, colloquially known as “consumption” due to its debilitating impact on the body, preys on weakened immune systems, particularly in the presence of HIV/AIDS.
Dr. Llang Maama underscores the critical importance of regular screening, emphasizing that while TB can be remedied, its toll remains devastating.
However, amidst this healthcare crisis looms another formidable challenge: climate change.
The erratic weather patterns induced by climate change compromise agricultural productivity, hindering the production of nutritious foods crucial for bolstering immune resilience. As Lesotho battles to feed its population amidst unpredictable weather conditions, the vulnerability of its people to TB intensifies.
The symptoms of TB—persistent cough lasting more than two weeks, chest pain, and coughing up blood or phlegm—serve as harbingers of a looming health crisis.
Treatment for TB spans three to six months, owing to the bacterium’s slow growth and replication rate.
Despite the challenges posed by this prolonged treatment regimen, it remains a vital component in curbing the spread of TB.
While community sensitization efforts spearheaded by the Ministry of Health are commendable, they alone are insufficient to stem the tide of TB.
Climate Change Advocacy for Lesotho underscores the urgent need for comprehensive interventions, including access to basic services such as clean water, sanitation, and hygiene.
Adequate waste disposal mechanisms and sewage treatment facilities are imperative, alongside subsidies and financial support for clean energy initiatives. Furthermore, regulation of quarry mining and robust community-based Environmental Impact Assessments are crucial steps toward mitigating environmental risks associated with TB transmission.
Implementing these interventions not only addresses the immediate healthcare crisis posed by TB but also fosters climate change adaptation.
Access to clean water and improved sanitation not only reduces the spread of TB but also mitigates environmental risks associated with waterborne diseases.
By investing in sustainable energy solutions and regulating harmful industrial practices, Lesotho can simultaneously combat TB and bolster its resilience to the adverse impacts of climate change.
On this World TB Day, let us acknowledge the intertwined challenges of healthcare and climate change facing communities worldwide.
Only through concerted efforts to address both can we hope to alleviate the burden of TB and build a healthier, more resilient future for all.

It is my singular honour and privilege to join you today for the unveiling of this sacred site, the Kamungoma Liberation War Shrine, where 105 of our fellow brothers and sisters were brutally killed by the Rhodesian army on the 14th of May 1978.
We are gathered here today in Gutu District, which gave us luminaries of our liberation struggle, notable among them is the Soul of the Nation, the late National Hero and Vice President, Simon Vengai Muzenda.
This particular occasion is in honour of the communities, ordinary men and women, boys and girls, as well as veterans of the liberation struggle, who bore the brunt of the racist brutality by the white settler regime, in our quest for independence, democracy, freedom and self-determination.
Many of our people here in Gutu District and Masvingo Province as a whole were massacred and buried in shallow graves. Occasions such as this one are a solemn reminder to all of us that we must never forget our history.
It is, thus, befitting that as we remember those who perished here at Kamungoma, in a fortnight’s time, we will be commemorating our 44th Independence Day Anniversary in Murambinda, Manicaland Province.
May I now invite you all to rise and observe a minute of silence in honour of our dearly departed. May their souls continue to rest in eternal peace.
Our country experienced a brutal process of colonisation by the British, who oppressed communities in their unbridled quest to loot our resources and make our beloved nation an extension of the British Empire.
In so doing, our forefathers lost possession of their land, livestock and other productive assets, including key heritage artifacts that define us as a people.
The arrogance and disregard of the rights of the black majority were so brute to the extent that Ian Douglas Smith declared he did not believe in black majority rule ‘not in a thousand years’.
Driven by their desire to resist colonial occupation, our forebears waged the First Chimurenga, which saw numerous battles being fought across the country.
In particular, our gallant heroine Mbuya Nehanda, while on death row, remarked “Mapfupa angu achamuka”.
The country subsequently witnessed the upsurge of various forms of resistance, which eventually led to the Second Chimurenga/Umvukela.
The path was not easy for the thousands of sons and daughters that trekked into military camps in Mozambique, Zambia, Botswana, Angola and Tanzania.
The merciless bombings of innocent civilians in refugee camps in Zambia and Mozambique will forever be a painful part of our national history. Lest we forget.
Today, the Kamungoma Massacre is testimony of the extent to which the settler regime wanted to hold on to the governance space and architecture of our country, including pillaging our God-given resources.

I listened to the Governor’s response with much respect. However, I would like to argue my case as follows:
-For argument sake, if the economy is +96% dollarised, why was the rate running away in recent weeks? Is the chaos in foreign exchange market caused by 4% of ZWL? The answer is a big no. Alternatively, are we saying that the national budget which runs into tens of trillions of ZWL plus private sector own budgets in ZWL on constitute 4% of total cash in circulation? No.
-The recipients of the ZWL payments dump the ZWL on the black market with a view to preserve their earnings or secure the USD which is required at passports, fuel stations, ZIMRA, tuckshops, schools, etc. This trend will continue as long as ZiG is not accepted at passports office, fuel stations, ZIMRA, tuckshops, schools, etc.
Again, for argument sake, is our Governor by any chance insinuating that the run away exchange rate witnessed in the last few weeks is it the ZW$2.6 trillion? I would like to argue that the disbursements from the ZW$58.2 trillion budget are a big factor.
Again, the question which arises is that, is the US$285m enough to guarantee demand for forex, that is, for both import and value preservation? The answer is a big no.
Let me end by asserting that if the budget is in USD, my view that we need at least 6 months on import cover would be invalid. In view of the fact that the budget is in ZWL, we need at least US$4.5 billion in reserves so that anyone who walks in the bank can change money the same way we do in the black market. Crazy as it may look like, it is the only way to kill the black market and restore confidence. Liberalising the exchange rate without allowing people & anyone who want USD to access it from the formal banks, will not guarantee the success of ZiG. In addition, ZiG must be exclusively used at passports office, fuel stations, ZIMRA, tuckshops, schools, etc.
It is my prayer that the Governor will have an open door policy like his predecessor @DrJPMangudya so that we continue the dialogue.

Money represents a collective trust in the stability and reliability of the government. Its value is derived from the amalgamation of this confidence.
Instead of introducing a structured currency, we need a conversation that produces a Citizens-backed structured political change and new government.
A bond note by another name will not fix our challenges. A currency is a bundle of confidence. And confidence is a product of good politics and good leadership.
Currency change has failed before. And it surely will fail again. All this, because of broken politics, disputed elections and contested national processes.
In recent years, all these currencies failed because of bad politics: ZW$, USD, Bond note, RTGS, ZWL$, Gold coins, ZiG. It is given that the new currency will fail again because of BAD POLITICS.
Currency reforms will not guarantee currency stability but good politics will lay the foundation for currency stability
Zimbabwe needs a political and democratic leadership change, not a currency change.
No amount of currency change will pivot the nation into prosperity and boom.
The citizens have zero confidence in the leader of the country. Once the citizens lose confidence in an administration they automatically lose confidence in all that it stands for or represents. In a statement ActionAid Zimbabwe said the solution to Zimbabwe’s economic challenges lies in addressing confidence issues not currency.
“While the initiative may be presented as a solution to Zimbabwe’s economic challenges, we believe that what Zimbabweans truly need is the restoration of confidence in the economy, not the introduction of yet another currency,” ActionAid Zimbabwe said.
The organisation added that the country’s history was riddled with currency instability problems, with various currencies introduced over the years, each accompanied by promises of economic recovery but argued that the solutions often fell short, leaving Zimbabweans vulnerable to economic uncertainty and hardship.
“The introduction of the ZiG currency risks repeating the mistakes of the past,” the spokesperson warned. “Instead of addressing the root causes of our economic challenges, it offers a temporary fix that fails to inspire confidence among Zimbabweans.”
The organization called on the government to prioritize comprehensive reforms addressing issues such as corruption, mismanagement, and lack of transparency. They emphasized the need for an environment conducive to investment, accountability, and good governance.
“We urge policymakers to engage in meaningful dialogue with stakeholders from all sectors of society to develop sustainable solutions that will benefit the entire nation,” the organisation added.

Murder suspect, Peter Dube has appeared at the Gweru Provincial Magistrate Courts for initial remand following his deportation from Mozambique on Wednesday.
Dube faces two counts of murder and two more counts of attempted murder, which he allegedly committed in 2021 before fleeing to Ireland through South Africa and Eswatini.
He was arrested in Ireland last year for violating migration laws and was deported to Mozambique, after claiming that he was a Mozambican national.

Murder suspect, Peter Dube has appeared at the Gweru Provincial Magistrate Courts for initial remand following his deportation from Mozambique on Wednesday.
Dube faces two counts of murder and two more counts of attempted murder, which he allegedly committed in 2021 before fleeing to Ireland through South Africa and Eswatini.
He was arrested in Ireland last year for violating migration laws and was deported to Mozambique, after claiming that he was a Mozambican national.

In Lesotho, a small landlocked country surrounded by South Africa, tuberculosis (TB) has reached alarming proportions. With 661 incidents of TB cases for every 100,000 Basotho, the nation grapples with one of the highest TB rates globally.
TB, colloquially known as “consumption” due to its debilitating impact on the body, preys on weakened immune systems, particularly in the presence of HIV/AIDS.
Dr. Llang Maama underscores the critical importance of regular screening, emphasizing that while TB can be remedied, its toll remains devastating.
However, amidst this healthcare crisis looms another formidable challenge: climate change.
The erratic weather patterns induced by climate change compromise agricultural productivity, hindering the production of nutritious foods crucial for bolstering immune resilience. As Lesotho battles to feed its population amidst unpredictable weather conditions, the vulnerability of its people to TB intensifies.
The symptoms of TB—persistent cough lasting more than two weeks, chest pain, and coughing up blood or phlegm—serve as harbingers of a looming health crisis.
Treatment for TB spans three to six months, owing to the bacterium’s slow growth and replication rate.
Despite the challenges posed by this prolonged treatment regimen, it remains a vital component in curbing the spread of TB.
While community sensitization efforts spearheaded by the Ministry of Health are commendable, they alone are insufficient to stem the tide of TB.
Climate Change Advocacy for Lesotho underscores the urgent need for comprehensive interventions, including access to basic services such as clean water, sanitation, and hygiene.
Adequate waste disposal mechanisms and sewage treatment facilities are imperative, alongside subsidies and financial support for clean energy initiatives. Furthermore, regulation of quarry mining and robust community-based Environmental Impact Assessments are crucial steps toward mitigating environmental risks associated with TB transmission.
Implementing these interventions not only addresses the immediate healthcare crisis posed by TB but also fosters climate change adaptation.
Access to clean water and improved sanitation not only reduces the spread of TB but also mitigates environmental risks associated with waterborne diseases.
By investing in sustainable energy solutions and regulating harmful industrial practices, Lesotho can simultaneously combat TB and bolster its resilience to the adverse impacts of climate change.

By Political Reporter- The country’s prominent opposition figure, Nelson Chamisa, has criticised President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa for delaying declaring the El Nino-induced drought as a State of Disaster.
The drought wreaked havoc on crops and pastures during the 2023/24 rainy season.
On Wednesday, April 3, President Mnangagwa declared a state of disaster and urgently appealed for international assistance, stating that Zimbabwe needs more than US$2 billion to mitigate the impending famine.
Chamisa contends that recognising a meteorological drought at the tail-end of the summer season reflects a significant “leadership drought” within the country.
Chamisa said:
Drought in Zimbabwe has become a perennial challenge evidenced by persistent extreme weather conditions. Poverty, disease, and cholera also characterise our national perils.
These all constitute major threats to our national security. It’s like we’re stuck in a time loop since ’07/’08. This points to leadership failure.
Declaring a state of emergency after the fact is too little too late, lame and lacking. We’ve ignored warnings from experts including the UN, WHO, WFP and our own meteorological teams who gave these warnings more than a year ago.
Our lack of preparedness shows that the drought of leadership and strategy is OUR BIGGEST DROUGHT HAZARD.
We’ve got dams but they’re underdeveloped, silting up with no de-silting plans. We have too many undeveloped dam sites. We lack the right water harnessing and harvesting plans.
The former leader of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) issued a challenge to the Mnangagwa-led administration, urging them to draw lessons from other nations that have achieved food security even in the face of limited rainfall. He said:
Other countries with less rainfall manage better. With the right leadership and proper governance, Zimbabwe would be evergreen. We have a great deal for Zimbabwe- the Green Agenda revolution.
Climate-smart solutions need a proactive strategy, not a reactive policy. Our water systems and land use need effective management for preservation and sustainability.
Declaring disaster late is no solution. Lives have been lost and continue to be lost the policies are floppy, sloppy, slow and weak.
We’re ready to provide the leadership that acts, not react. We must resolve the drought of leadership. Zimbabwe deserves better.
We must fix the broken politics, resolve the disputed elections conundrum, reverse the rigged elections scourge and restore majority rule.
Mnangagwa announced that the anticipated grain yield for the 2023/24 agricultural season in Zimbabwe stands at 868,273 tonnes. However, this falls significantly short of the nation’s food requirements, resulting in a cereal deficit of nearly 680,000 metric tonnes.

RBZ Governor John Mushayavanhu made the revelation on Thursday, stating that of the total gold reserves, 1.5 tonnes are securely held within the central bank’s vaults, while one tonne is stored offshore.
This disclosure comes at a time when Zimbabwe’s economy faces significant challenges, prompting public speculation about the potential beneficiaries of such reserves, particularly within President Emerson Mnangagwa’s inner circles.
Mushayavanhu clarified, “I can confirm that we have 1.1 tonnes of gold and other precious minerals in the form of diamonds, which, if converted to gold, will amount to 0.4 tonnes, bringing our total gold reserves to 1.5 tonnes.” He further outlined that the 2.5 tonnes of gold and other precious minerals are currently valued at US$175 million based on prevailing market prices.
Economic commentator Professor Gift Mugano, however, cast doubt on the adequacy of these reserves to support a structured currency, even when factoring in anticipated forex inflows from exports, diaspora remittances, and credit. According to Mugano, the disclosed reserves fall significantly short of providing a sustainable foundation for currency stability, with calculations indicating less than a month’s worth of import cover.
Addressing journalists’ inquiries, George Guvamatanga, the Permanent Secretary for Finance, Economic Development, and Investment Promotion, asserted that the Treasury holds an additional US$300 million in reserves, supplementing the RBZ’s indicated figures. A LEADERSHIP DROUGHT IN ZIMBABWE..
Drought in Zimbabwe has become a perennial challenge evidenced by persistent extreme weather conditions. Poverty, disease, cholera also characterize our national perils.
These all constitute major threats to our national security. It’s like we’re stuck in a time loop since ‘07/‘08. This points to leadership failure.
Declaring a state of emergency after the fact is too little too late, lame and lacking. We’ve ignored warnings from experts including UN, WHO, WFP and our own meteorological teams who gave these warnings more than a year ago.
Our lack of preparedness shows that the drought of leadership and strategy is OUR BIGGEST DROUGHT HAZARD.
We’ve got dams but they’re underdeveloped, silting up with no de-silting plans. We have too many undeveloped dam sites. We lack the right water harnessing and harvesting plans.
Other countries with less rainfall manage better. With the right leadership and proper governance, Zimbabwe would be evergreen.We have a great deal for Zimbabwe- the Green Agenda revolution.
Climate-smart solutions need proactive strategy, not reactive policy. Our water systems and land use needs effective management for preservation and sustainability.
Declaring disaster late is no solution. Lives have been lost and continue to be lost the policies are floppy, sloppy, slow and weak.
We’re ready to provide the leadership that acts, not react. We must resolve the drought of leadership. Zimbabwe deserves better.
We must fix the broken politics, resolve the disputed elections conundrum, reverse the rigged elections scourge and restore majority rule.

The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe, acting on behalf of the government, announced the launch of the “new” currency, ZiG (Zimbabwe Gold), on Friday following a precipitous decline in the value of the Zimbabwe Dollar.
RBZ Governor John Mushayavanhu revealed the particulars of what he calls new currency during the presentation of the 2024 Monetary Policy Statement (MPS) on Friday, April 5, 2024. ZiG notes will be issued in denominations of 1, 2, 5, 10, 50, and 100, with coins available in half and quarter ZiG units.
Mushayavanhu emphasised that the conversion of Zimbabwe dollar balances to ZiG will begin immediately, with a 21-day window for citizens to exchange their ZWL notes for the new currency.
He stated, “I don’t believe in taking people’s money. The ZiG will circulate with other currencies in the basket.” The interbank rate as of April 5, 2024, will determine the conversion rate.
However, individuals holding ZWL$100,000 worth of notes will face scrutiny, requiring them to explain the source and purpose of their holdings.

By A Correspondent| The Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ), has voiced alarm regarding the recent government announcement about introducing a structured currency. They assert that the plan should be deferred until citizens are allowed to express their views on the matter.
In an official statement, ARTUZ highlighted grave apprehensions about the integrity of operations within the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe, the Ministry of Finance, Economic Development, and Investment Promotion, as well as the Zimbabwean government itself.
“The Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ), is alarmed by the recent announcement by the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe, of yet another mutation of the local currency and mysterious promises of monetary stability.
“Whilst we acknowledge the need for a strong local currency for macroeconomic development, we express serious concern over the lack of integrity in the operations of the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe, the Ministry of Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion and the government of Zimbabwe.
“As a Teacher Trade Union, we represent a sector that relies solely on monetary transactions and any hiccups in the administration of money is a direct attack on the livelihoods of teachers and other workers in general.
“Our worries over the announced changes in the monetary regimes used in the country are not without cause or justification. Workers, like other users of monetary transactions in the country, have the most horrific historical experiences of livelihoods, savings, and investments, lost in a flash when such monetary changes were made and dubious value accredited to a worthless currency.
“So, it is a very worrying moment for our sector as we risk having our meagre earnings further eroded. Most government workers including teachers are putting their money in social investments such as purchasing and developing residential stands, poultry and goat farming, as a survival tactic in the harsh economic conditions, and all these have monetary value pegged in US dollars, as a store of value.
The recent announcement of a Structured currency conjures memories of eroded monetary value and shattered investments in the past. As ARTUZ we make the following observations and demand urgent clarity on the matter, exchange.
“The Ambush manner of the Introduction of the Structured Currency
“It is our considered view that legal tender denotes that a legal process must accompany the promulgation of a currency that comes into effect. Our research on the matter has revealed that neither the parliament of Zimbabwe nor the Senate had an opportunity of being informed, to contribute, or discuss the introduction of the new currency and its socioeconomic impact, and the law accompanying.
The citizens of Zimbabwe woke up to the announcement in the press of a development which significantly affects their lives, without the benefit of sufficient notice and consultation.
“As a Union we maintain that citizens remain the repository of solutions to the challenges affecting their lives, in their diversity. We demand that sufficient consultations be done and room be given for submissions on the matter.
Confidence plays a key role in the acceptance of any currency and consultations will result in ownership of the currency by the people of Zimbabwe. NOTHING FOR US WITHOUT US!
Multi-currency regime
The government’s position on the usage of different currencies, primarily the US dollar, will be prolonged up to 2030.
“We demand that there be clarity on the matter assuring the citizens of Zimbabwe that the introduction of the structured currency will not interfere with the transactions in US dollars.
“It is a public secret that the economy of Zimbabwe has dollarized and, in some localities, the Zimbabwean dollars are not accepted either as change or for purchases.
“In business as well, government-linked establishments like Innscor refuse to mix local currency with US dollar transactions.
“All these erode the confidence in the usage of a local currency that is not accompanied by solid assurances of value.
“We demand that there be safeguards to protect users from unscrupulous money dealers and businesses that have been bred by economic crises and monetary instability
“The Economy has dollarized. Dollarise Civil service salaries
We demand that all salaries of government workers be pegged to the US dollar to the last cent. All facets of the economy have dollarized and keeping a façade of local currency whose value is not certain, as a component of remuneration for civil servants is hypocritical. The introduction of a new currency should be done where value of earnings is not in dispute and the exchange into another currency fluid.
“Restore the Integrity of the banking sector.
“It is not a secret that a lot of money in Zimbabwe exists outside the banking sector and acts as fuel for monetary speculation in the case of a local currency whose value is not certain.
“Revelations of cash payments of sums like 1 million US dollars in donation as was recently done by Wicknell Chivayo when he donated to ZCC church, the gold mafia revelations of individuals with large stashes of money, amongst other examples point to a contributory factor to the monetary crisis.
“We demand that there be due diligence to force monetary transactions to be done in the banking system and eliminate room for black-market speculation. We posit that this will pave the ground for the effectiveness of a new currency and maintenance of value.
“To this end, ARTUZ calls upon the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe and the Ministry of Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion to suspend the promulgation of the new Currency and give notice, unpack the Structured currency, invite input, and give the necessary assurance to the citizens. As workers tatambura kwenguva refu (we have suffered for too long” and we cannot bear another casino experiment with our livelihoods.
“The Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe will continue discharging its mandate of representing teachers, and being part of the citizens collective in fighting for an inclusive education service, economy, social and political environment that allows teachers, workers, and all citizens to live dignified lives. By A Correspondent| In a dramatic turn of events, Francesco Marconati, a local businessman, has approached the High Court for protection, citing threats to his life after exposing what he claims to be a well-organized syndicate involved in the externalization of foreign currency through the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe.
Marconati, the owner of several companies including Eagle Italian Shoes and Leather and Strengthened Investments Private Limited, alleges that his life has been in danger since he blew the whistle on the criminal activities.
Marconati’s troubles began after he lodged complaints against one of the directors at his companies for alleged foreign currency externalization.
According to court documents, Marconati has been arrested more than five times since then, prompting him to seek legal recourse for protection.
In his application to the High Court, Marconati is seeking declaratory relief, asserting that his rights have been violated due to his exposé on the criminal syndicate.
He specifically references Article 33 of the United Nations Convention Against Corruption, which addresses the protection of whistleblowers.
The businessman claims that the alleged syndicate, led by one of his former business partners, Li Song, has been involved in illicit transactions using his companies as a front.
Marconati alleges that Li Song, along with other individuals, manipulated foreign currency auctions for personal gain, resulting in significant financial losses for his companies.
Despite Marconati’s efforts to seek justice, he claims that the legal process has been marred by delays and frustrations.
He recounts instances where cases he reported against Li Song were either not tried or transferred to different police stations. Moreover, Marconati states that he was falsely accused of fraud by Li Song, leading to a protracted legal battle that culminated in his acquittal, which is currently under appeal.
Marconati remains resolute in his pursuit of justice, despite facing ongoing threats and legal challenges.
His application to the High Court underscores the risks faced by whistleblowers in Zimbabwe and the need for adequate protection mechanisms to safeguard their rights and safety.
By A Correspondent| In a startling revelation, Zimbabwe’s Reserve Bank Governor, John Mushayavanhu, has announced that despite the nation boasting 2.5 tonnes of gold reserves, the central bank holds a mere 1.5 tonnes in its vaults.
The whereabouts of the remaining gold remain shrouded in mystery, raising concerns about the fate of the precious resource in a country grappling with economic instability.
Speaking at a press conference, Mushayavanhu disclosed that of the total gold reserves, 1.5 tonnes are stored domestically, with the remaining one tonne purportedly held offshore. However, questions linger over the transparency and accountability surrounding the handling of the nation’s prized mineral wealth.
Economic commentator Professor Gift Mugano cast doubt on the adequacy of Zimbabwe’s gold reserves to support the introduction of a structured currency.
Mugano highlighted that the combined gold reserves and cash holdings, estimated at US$291.8 million, fall significantly short of the necessary reserves to ensure currency stability.
“2.6 tons of gold & US$100m (i.e., US$291.8m equivalent) are a drop in the ocean. Here is the simple mathematics: If we combined 1.1 tons of gold (local) and 1.5 tons of gold (offshore), we have 2.6 tons of gold. If we use the price of gold per ounce of US$2294 as of yesterday, our 2.6 tonnes of gold gives us an estimated value of US$191.8m. Our total reserves are estimated at US$ 291.8 million if we factor in the additional US$100 which has been announced by the RBZ. This year, we are anticipating to import goods worth US$9 billion, that is, US$750m per month. Our reserves (2.6 tons + US$100m) = US$291.8m can only cover 11.7 days of the month if we are not exporting anything. In short, our reserves are not enough to give us at least one month of import cover. Basic economic theory tells us that we must have at least six (6) months of import cover to guarantee currency stability if all things are equal. This is a priori requirement. In our case, we have approx 1/3 month cover! This is not enough to support the structured currency even if we will still receive forex inflows from exports, diaspora remittances, credit,” said Mugano.
Moreover, concerns escalated as George Guvamatanga, the Permanent Secretary for Finance, Economic Development, and Investment Promotion, disclosed that the Treasury holds an additional US$300 million in reserves, separate from the central bank’s holdings.
The revelation underscores the opacity surrounding Zimbabwe’s financial management and raises questions about the discrepancy between reported reserves and actual holdings.

I was in Hurungwe district and part of Gokwe Gandavaroyi. I engaged and listened to village heads and villagers.
Their situation is grave. The government through the department of social welfare has been registering a few villagers to receive food aid.
I witnessed several such food distribution exercises by the department of social welfare. What I saw is shocking.
In one village, six villagers were sharing three gallons of maize. What is more painful is the widespread corruption in the state that has really become endemic in the administration of ED and Zanu Pf.
At one such food distribution in remote parts of Gokwe Gandavaroyi, few villagers were registered to receive the food, and 192 bags of maize were offloaded.
Nearly one thousand villagers gathered and only less than 100 managed to receive the food aid. Those who got it were getting two gallons per family.
Very few managed to get a bucket full of maize. At the end 45 bags of maize remained. There was commotion as to whose it was. Those distributing could not explain. The argument continued till night fall.
Hungry villagers stumbled for the food and grabbed it and disappeared in the dark! All of it was looted by hungry villagers and the matter was reported to the police the following day.
In another place I witnessed villagers sharing maize using a tea cup. All signs indicate that we will have severe needs of food this year and the government better start allowing international food aid organisations to start coming through to help.
CHIREDZI – Three suspected robbers axed a Chiredzi man after he gave them US$800 and they had ransacked his house of cellphones and laptops at 1am on Monday.
Hillary Bvocho who worked for Chiororo Transport Company as an administrator was axed in front of his wife at his house in Funye Road, Makondo Suburb on Monday.
Masvingo Provincial Police Spokesperson, Kudakwashe Dhewa confirmed the incident.

TB, colloquially known as “consumption” due to its debilitating impact on the body, preys on weakened immune systems, particularly in the presence of HIV/AIDS.
Dr. Llang Maama underscores the critical importance of regular screening, emphasizing that while TB can be remedied, its toll remains devastating.
However, amidst this healthcare crisis looms another formidable challenge: climate change.
The erratic weather patterns induced by climate change compromise agricultural productivity, hindering the production of nutritious foods crucial for bolstering immune resilience. As Lesotho battles to feed its population amidst unpredictable weather conditions, the vulnerability of its people to TB intensifies.
The symptoms of TB—persistent cough lasting more than two weeks, chest pain, and coughing up blood or phlegm—serve as harbingers of a looming health crisis.
Treatment for TB spans three to six months, owing to the bacterium’s slow growth and replication rate.
Despite the challenges posed by this prolonged treatment regimen, it remains a vital component in curbing the spread of TB.
While community sensitization efforts spearheaded by the Ministry of Health are commendable, they alone are insufficient to stem the tide of TB.
Climate Change Advocacy for Lesotho underscores the urgent need for comprehensive interventions, including access to basic services such as clean water, sanitation, and hygiene.
Adequate waste disposal mechanisms and sewage treatment facilities are imperative, alongside subsidies and financial support for clean energy initiatives. Furthermore, regulation of quarry mining and robust community-based Environmental Impact Assessments are crucial steps toward mitigating environmental risks associated with TB transmission.
Implementing these interventions not only addresses the immediate healthcare crisis posed by TB but also fosters climate change adaptation.
Access to clean water and improved sanitation not only reduces the spread of TB but also mitigates environmental risks associated with waterborne diseases.
By investing in sustainable energy solutions and regulating harmful industrial practices, Lesotho can simultaneously combat TB and bolster its resilience to the adverse impacts of climate change.
On this World TB Day, let us acknowledge the intertwined challenges of healthcare and climate change facing communities worldwide.
