Understanding the Far-Reaching Effects of Plastic Waste

In a world where convenience often trumps environmental responsibility, the insidious impact of plastic waste continues to escalate, leaving a devastating imprint on our planet’s ecosystems.

As underscored by Tshikovha Green and Climate Change Advocates Pty Ltd, the ramifications of plastic pollution extend far beyond the realm of mere inconvenience; they pose a profound threat to both wildlife and human health.

The most alarming aspect of plastic waste is its persistence.

Unlike organic materials that decompose relatively quickly, plastics endure for centuries, stubbornly refusing to degrade.

Estimates suggest that it can take up to a staggering 1,000 years for certain types of plastics to break down, perpetuating their presence in the environment long after their usefulness has expired.

This longevity translates into a pervasive accumulation of plastic debris, which manifests as a looming environmental crisis.

The consequences are most starkly felt in our oceans, where vast swathes of plastic waste have formed sprawling gyres, suffocating marine life and despoiling once-pristine habitats.

Sea creatures, from majestic whales to diminutive plankton, fall victim to entanglement in plastic debris or ingest it, mistaking it for food.

The toll on marine ecosystems is profound, with cascading effects that reverberate throughout the food chain.

Yet, the scourge of plastic waste extends its grip inland as well, infiltrating soils and infiltrating groundwater reservoirs.

Microplastics, the fragmented remnants of larger plastic items, infiltrate agricultural lands, compromising soil fertility and contaminating crops.

This insidious infiltration poses a dual threat to both environmental and human health, as plastic-derived toxins leach into water sources, perpetuating a cycle of contamination that imperils both ecosystems and communities.

Moreover, the human health impacts of plastic pollution cannot be overstated.

From the chemicals used in plastic production to the toxins absorbed from the environment, exposure to plastics poses a myriad of health risks.

Studies have linked plastic-related chemicals such as bisphenol A (BPA) and phthalates to a host of adverse health outcomes, including hormonal disruptions, reproductive disorders, and even certain cancers.

As plastic waste proliferates unabated, the specter of these health risks looms ever larger, casting a shadow over present and future generations alike.

Addressing the scourge of plastic pollution demands a concerted, multifaceted approach encompassing legislative action, technological innovation, and individual accountability. Initiatives to reduce single-use plastics, promote recycling and waste management infrastructure, and foster sustainable alternatives are crucial steps toward mitigating the environmental and human toll of plastic waste.

As stewards of this planet, we are entrusted with the responsibility of safeguarding its fragile ecosystems and ensuring the well-being of all its inhabitants.

The effects of plastic waste serve as a stark reminder of the urgent imperative to reevaluate our relationship with plastics and chart a course toward a more sustainable, harmonious coexistence with the natural world.

Only through collective action and unwavering commitment can we hope to stem the tide of plastic pollution and forge a path toward a cleaner, healthier future for generations to come.

Mnangagwa Wastes Millions On Construction Of Propaganda School : Picture

By A Correspondent|ZimEye

In a move that has ignited controversy and criticism, the Zanu PF regime under President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa has allocated significant financial resources to the construction of the Herbert Chitepo School of Ideology.

Described as a facility aimed at propagating Zanu PF ideologies, the timing of this allocation has raised eyebrows, particularly in light of the pressing issues facing the nation.

The construction of the Herbert Chitepo School of Ideology, reportedly costing millions of dollars, has drawn sharp criticism from various quarters.

At a time when Zimbabwe is grappling with a shortage of proper medical equipment and facing numerous economic challenges, the decision to prioritize the establishment of a propaganda school has been met with widespread condemnation.

A statement from the ruling Zanu PF party defends the construction, stating, “Herbert Chitepo School of Ideology Construction Complete…anyone can enrol.”

The statement highlights the features of the three-floor building, boasting six classrooms capable of accommodating 360 students, a canteen, and an IT center.

Additionally, it emphasizes that the school is open to all, aiming to provide ideological orientation across Zimbabwean society.

However, critics argue that the allocation of funds to a propaganda school, especially amidst pressing national crises, reflects misplaced priorities on the part of the government.

The decision to invest in ideological propagation rather than addressing crucial issues such as healthcare, education, and economic development has been met with skepticism and outrage from many Zimbabweans.

Furthermore, the timing of the construction has added fuel to the fire, with concerns raised about the government’s commitment to addressing the immediate needs of the population.

While the Herbert Chitepo School of Ideology may serve as a platform for advancing Zanu PF’s agenda, questions linger about its relevance and necessity in the face of more urgent challenges confronting the nation.

President Mnangagwa’s impending official opening of the school is likely to intensify the debate surrounding the allocation of funds and government priorities.

Critics argue that the government should focus on addressing the root causes of Zimbabwe’s socio-economic problems rather than investing in projects perceived as serving narrow political interests.

The controversy surrounding the construction of the Herbert Chitepo School of Ideology underscores deeper concerns about governance, resource allocation, and political priorities in Zimbabwe.

As the nation grapples with multiple challenges, the need for transparent and accountable leadership that prioritizes the welfare of its citizens has never been more pressing.

Deputy Prime Minister Tomáš Taraba provided a glimmer of hope, stating his belief that the prime minister would survive following a successful surgery. “I was very shocked and tried to contact people to figure out how serious his condition was,” Taraba recounted in an interview with BBC’s Newshour program. “Fortunately, as far as I know, the operation went well and I guess in the end he will survive,” he added.

Amidst the chaos, Defense Minister Robert Kaliňák and Interior Minister Matúš Šutaj Eštok labeled the shooting as “politically motivated.” Šutaj Eštok pointed out the timing of the attack, noting that “the suspect made the decision to do it shortly after the presidential election,” hinting at a potential motive linked to political developments.

Varakashi Expose Police Ineptitude

By A Correspondent|ZimEye

As Zimbabwe grapples with economic challenges, the emergence of illicit moneychangers has become a pressing issue in the streets of Harare. In a startling revelation, the Zanu PF Varakashi Team has accused police officers of turning a blind eye to these activities in exchange for kickbacks, thereby hindering government efforts to revive the economy through initiatives like the Zimbabwean Investment Guidelines (ZiG).

Varakashi Team , writing on Facebook, highlighted the brazen nature of police involvement, stating, “This is openly displayed, with megaphones shouting at Boka along Beatrice Road, and Southlea Park Police moving by getting tokens to keep a blind eye. Government needs to be serious with these saboteurs.”

These allegations paint a troubling picture of law enforcement’s role in combating economic crimes.

Despite government crackdowns and efforts to regulate currency exchange, the persistence of moneychangers suggests a deeper issue rooted in corruption and collusion.

The Varakashi Team’s accusations underscore the urgent need for accountability and transparency within law enforcement agencies.

While the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has denied any involvement in corrupt activities, skepticism remains high among the public.

The second half started quietly but Vini Jr eventually got his second and Real Madrid’s fourth, before Arda Guler continued his strong end to the campaign by making at 5-0, perhaps showing Carlo Ancelotti why he should be in the plans for next season.

Warriors Go For Glory

Most of the players that were on duty with the Warriors in March are expected to be available for selection for the upcoming games against Lesotho and South Africa in the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers.

The Warriors will play both matches in South Africa, first against the Crocodiles in Johannesburg on 7 June then on 11 June versus Bafana Bafana in Bloemfontein.

Among the notable players set to miss the games are midfielders Bill Antonio and Marvelous Nakamba.

Both stars are on long term injuries and have been sidelined for several months now.

Luton Town’s Nakamba is nursing a knee injury that was initially sustained on international duty with the Warriors in November.

Antonio, who plays for KV Mechelen in Belgium, picked an ACL injury in March.

Striker Admiral Muskwe is unavailable and has been out since November after suffering a hamstring injury on national duty.

Wolves forward Leon Chiwome, who previously received a call up to the national team, is also injured and won’t be included.

But his Wolves teammate Tawanda Chirewa could finally heed a call if included in the next selection.

Chirewa excused himself from the previous games in March to concentrate on his club football at least until the end of the season.

Magaya In Bribery Storm

By Staff Reporter- Controversial preacher and leader of Prophetic Healing and Deliverance Ministries (PHD), Prophet Walter Magaya, has bought out a Bulawayo family he defrauded.

Charles Chapindura and his wife had sued Magaya, demanding US$4 100 for failing to fulfil a promise to build a house for them under a botched housing project in Douglasdale, Bulawayo.

The lawsuit was filed under case number WCSCC 324/24.

The family accused the prophet of failing to provide the promised housing stand and he was scheduled to appear at Western Commonage Court this week but he, however, convinced the Chapindura family for an out-of-court settlement, sparing himself from embarrassment.

“The first party (Magaya) shall settle the above amount by paying an initial deposit of US$500-00 on or before the 31st of May 2024 and subsequent instalments of US$200-00 starting on or before the 30th of June 2024, up until the full amount is extinguished,” read the settlement deed.

The family, in turn, agreed to withdraw the summons filed at Western Commonage Small Claims Court.

The out-of-court deed of the settlement stated that Mr Chapindura was among a group of congregants that had entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Prophet Magaya for the Douglasdale housing project in 2016.

The document acknowledged that the Chapindura family had contributed an amount of US$4 100 and that they were withdrawing from the housing project. The parties agreed that the MoU be cancelled and that the money be restituted.

This is not the first time that Prophet Magaya has been involved in land and housing disputes.

In 2016 he was sued after admitting to unlawfully encroaching onto a neighbour’s property popularly known as “Rocks Lodge” next to PHD’s Waterfalls chapel in Harare without the consent of the legitimate owners.

The church offered to purchase the land to avoid eviction from part of Number 8 Prospect in Waterfalls.

The admission was made in a bid to seek an out-of-court settlement and to avoid eviction from the stand where PHD Ministries was carrying out construction work.

In the same year, his PHD Ministries was sued at the High Court for “invading” and encroaching onto the property owned by Panabase Consultancy (Private) Limited at Number 8 Prospect in Waterfalls.

This followed an unsuccessful attempt by PHD Ministries to purchase the two-hectare property for $235 000, a price that was turned down by Panabase as too little.

According to reports, despite a disagreement over the price, PHD “invaded” the property and allegedly destroyed some structures they had found on the land.

Panabase, through its director and Harare lawyer, Mr Shingai Mutumbwa, viewed PHD’s actions as unlawful and a way of arm-twisting the company into selling the property at an unreasonably low price.

Panabase filed an urgent chamber application at the High Court seeking the eviction of the church, Prophet Magaya, his employees and their guests from the property.

Again in 2019, Prophet Magaya was sucked into a US$900 000 land scandal after buying Kalulu Farm in Goromonzi, which had not been distributed by a deceased estate.

This was exposed in a letter dated June 7, 2019, written by Samukange Hungwe Attorneys on behalf of Nicholas Obert Mukomberanwa to the PHD leader.

The Mukomberanwa family through its lawyers sought to cancel the transaction and recover the farm.

The property was then fully paid for by the prophet after which he received a Deed of Transfer Number 2402/18.

Mnangagwa Sets Team To Grab Harare From The Opposition

By Municipal Reporter- President Mnangagwa has targeted all towns and cities run by the opposition.

On Wednesday, Mnangagwa sworn in a Commission of Inquiry, led by Retired High Court Judge Justice Maphios Cheda, into Harare City Council’s local governance issues since 2017.

This is Zanu PF’s tactic of looking for faults in towns run by the opposition and taking them over.

The other Commissioners are Mr Steven Chakaipa, Mr Norbert Phiri, Mrs Lucia Gladys Matibenga and Ms Khonzani Ncube, while the Permanent Secretary for Local Government and Public Works, Dr John Bhasera will be its Secretary.

The Commission has six months to operate under eight terms of reference.

Speaking after taking oath at State House in Harare today, Justice Cheda said they are ready to conduct investigations.

“We are looking at governance of the Harare City Council. When the President has decided that something is to be investigated, it means that he has seen or heard certain things which are not right.

“We are moving in together with my team to investigate,” he said.

It is my singular honour and privilege to preside over the 2024 National Commemoration of the International Day of Families here in the scenic and economically diverse Province of Mashonaland Central. The family unit is the key building block of communities, societies and nations at large, hence the need to direct attention towards the socio-economic issues that impact the development of the family unit and to come up with relevant solutions and interventions that protect and promote the integrity, status and empowerment of the family unit.

The International Day of Families came into being by means of the United Nations Resolution 47/237 of 20 September 1993, and has been celebrated every year since 1994. According to this Resolution, the family unit is affirmed to be the natural and fundamental entity in society as enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW).

The Government of Zimbabwe places paramount importance on families and has developed supportive legislation meant to protect and promote the development of the family unit. Chapter 2, Section 25 of the National Constitution directs that “the State and all institutions and agencies of Government at every level must endeavour within the limits of the resources available to them adopt measures for the provision of care and assistance to mothers, fathers and other family members who have charge of children and the prevention of domestic violence”. This in itself gives weight to the reality that for societal and national development and cohesion to be realized, there is need to adopt family centered development initiatives that equitably meet the needs of all family members. Our various cultures across Zimbabwe have for time immemorial prioritized the development of the family unit and the strengthening of familial bonds within both nuclear and extended families. This therefore obligates all citizens in Zimbabwe to play their part in their various capacities in protecting and empowering the family unit.
Today on the 15th of May 2024, Zimbabwe joins the rest of the world and the United Nations Family in commemorating the International Day of Families. The 2024 celebration marks the 30th anniversary of the Year of the Family, as the first commemoration was held in 1994. This year’s commemoration is running under the theme “Families and Climate Change” International year of the family + 30”,. As families are the fundamental basis of communities, societies and nations, they are not spared the adverse impacts of climate change. To this end, the United Nations has directed focus of the 2024 International Day of Families commemorations on 2 important family focused climate issues which are the impact of climate change on families and the role of families in climate action.

Climate Change is a major threat globally that is affecting the socio-economic development of nations and various natural environments. The increase in extreme weather events such as droughts, floods, cyclones, heat waves and hurricanes over the years has resulted in unforeseen losses in terms of human life, infrastructure, livelihoods and natural environment space. Such conditions have had adverse impacts on food production, agricultural production and the availability of and access to water and energy. The effects of extreme weather events have also impacted industries and value chains in sectors hard hit by climate shocks such as the agricultural sector. Economic growth and development are therefore severely curtailed by the extreme impacts of climate change. Consequently, the 2024 commemoration of the International Day of Families is everyone’s concern and the take-aways from the day should influence all of the nation’s citizenry to mainstream family issues in climate change interventions.
The Ministry has a mandate to economically empower women, mainstream gender, develop communities and promote MSMEs and Cooperative Development in key economic sectors which include agriculture, mining, tourism, manufacturing and trade. To support this mandate, the Ministry administers four empowerment funds namely the Women Development Fund, Zimbabwe Community Development Fund, SMEDCO and the ZWMFB. Several programmes and projects are being implemented by the Ministry and this has led to an increase in incomes at the family level, leading to more stable families.
It is sad to note that, Gender Based Violence (GBV); particularly rape of women and children is also a major challenge in our families and communities. The Zimbabwe Demographic Health Survey showed that the prevalence of gender-based violence stood at 47% among women. Studies have also observed that only 13% of women who suffer violence seek help from the police and only a combined 5% of those sought help from a doctor/medical institution, social services or a lawyer.
To address these social ills and maintain family integrity, the Ministry is implementing various programmes in schools, tertiary Institutions and churches to address GBV and incidences of rape. Such programmes include community-based awareness campaigns that are being held at provincial, district and ward levels in line with the National Action Plan on Rape and Gender-Based Violence. The Ministry also works with traditional leaders in the fight against GBV and the promotion of family unity.
Zimbabwe is currently in the scourge of a debilitating drug and substance abuse crisis that is affecting the well-being of families and communities. The current generation of youth is hardest hit by this scourge and this is posing a grave danger to the future of our nation as the current generation will be hamstrung by drug abuse and fail to be effective custodians of the future. The Government of Zimbabwe has identified drug and substance abuse as a major danger to the development of families, communities and the nation at large and resultantly, a whole Government approach and a multi-stakeholder initiative have been adopted where each participating entity is mainstreaming strategic responses to the drug abuse problem in their key programming areas. Families and community members should cooperate with law enforcement agencies and health service providers in the execution of their anti-drug and substance abuse duties, to safeguard the future of our nation.

Climate change has heavily impacted the work of male and female farmers in the developing world where women are heavily involved in food production and farming activities. Men have their own fair share of challenges that they face due to climate change and natural disasters that cannot be under-estimated or ignored. From time immemorial, men have been tasked with the role of family protectors and providers. These functions however have been greatly challenged in recent years due to the intensification of climate change and extreme weather events. Climate affected sectors end up being forced to scale down operations, thereby resulting in the loss of jobs and sector specific business opportunities. A number of men end up being affected and their ability to support their families is curtailed. Resultantly, the social and economic fallouts end up affecting the family and contributing to GBV, drug abuse, reduced standards of living and eventual family breakdown.

Women and girls also face their own unique challenges from climate change that affect their daily living and family roles. The main challenges that they face from climate change as a result of their gender include an increase in female workload due to water scarcity is experienced. UNICEF estimated that women and girls are responsible for water collection in 80% of households in need. This means that in times of climate induced water scarcity, women and girls are forced to travel longer distances to find water. This invariably increases their workload and cuts down in the potential time that they can commit to educational and economic pursuits. Additionally, the hygiene and sanitation of women and girls is severely affected by the lack of access to clean water, thereby making them more vulnerable to communicable and water-borne diseases such as cholera, typhoid fever and hepatitis. Furthermore, the ability of women and girls to effectively manage their menstrual hygiene matters is further impaired in the absence of reliable, clean and safe water.

As a nation, Zimbabwe has not been immune to the reality and effects of climate change. In relation to climate change, Zimbabwe is being affected in that Climate change is causing average temperatures to rise and annual rainfall decline especially in the southern parts of the country. This is making rainfall patterns more variable with an increase in droughts, floods and storms being experienced, thereby affecting Zimbabwe’s food security, health, energy supply and the economy.

Climate change among other factors have contributed to the deterioration of water quality and quantity for both urban and rural communities, thereby leading to an increase in health hazards such as diarrheal diseases and a cholera outbreaks. Climate change is exacerbating poverty levels, especially in rural areas which practice agriculture as its main livelihood as adverse climate and environmental conditions disrupt agriculture. Women, children, the elderly and the disabled in affected areas have been identified as being the most vulnerable to shocks. Climate change has severely affected Zimbabwe’s energy production and distribution capabilities in recent years. Fluctuating rainfall is causing reduced water volumes needed for hydro-electric power generation by key power generation facilities such as Kariba Hydro-Electric Power Station, thereby restricting the generation of hydroelectricity on which industry depends. The reality of climate change in Zimbabwe has seen families being affected socially and economically in a number of ways. Livelihoods, food security, employment opportunities and educational advancement prospects for men, women and children have been hard hit due to climate change. Extreme weather incidences such as Cyclone Idai in Manicaland and the current El Nino induced drought the country is currently facing have exposed families across the country to multiple vulnerabilities.

The Government of Zimbabwe has placed importance on Climate Change and it created a Ministry responsible for spearheading and taking the lead in Climate change adaptation and mitigation. The Government under the able leadership of His Excellency the President Dr E. D. Mnangagwa initiated the Presidential input scheme which is assisting small scale as well as communal farmers with farming inputs. The Pfumvudza conversation agricultural practice is a measure to adapt to the effects of Climate change. The Presidential borehole drilling scheme is ensuring that each village has a borehole as a way to curb climate change effects.
The 2024 theme of International Families Day seeks to direct focus on the role that families can play in climate action and capacitate them with the knowledge and resources necessary to combat climate change. Families need to be incorporated in the broader climate change response framework and deliver as change agents. With this in mind, it is therefore imperative for all stakeholders in the national climate change response framework to work together and mainstream family focused solutions and interventions that speak to the needs of men, women and children in families. The capacitation of existing community governance structures is essential to enabling them to disseminate information on climate change, disaster risk management and environmental protection and create tailor made community response systems to help families and communities respond to climate change challenges. The provision of reliable energy for families need to be prioritised so as to reduce the rates of deforestation and bio-mass loss that will reduce the amount of productive land that families and communities can use to develop sustainable agriculture and land based livelihoods. This will aid in increasing the economic resilience of families and reduce the likelihood of negative incidences such as GBV, child marriages and drug abuse occurring.

Furthermore, families need to be capacitated with the knowledge to develop and sustain a circular economy within their households and communities. The adoption of a circular economy will help families change and adapt their consumption patterns and utilise concepts of material re-use and recycling which are essential in protecting the environment.

The long-term projected impacts of climate change on Zimbabwe present an urgent call to action that needs to be heeded by all key stakeholders from Government, the development community and the business sector. Climate change is more than just an academic and scientific issue and there is currently a greater need to factor in the human cost of climate change and develop family focused climate interventions in wider development practice.

Allow me to conclude my speech by thanking everyone for attending this event. I would also like to pay tribute to the work that line Ministries and stakeholders present here are doing in the various communities across the country in the areas of climate change response, environmental protection and disaster risk management. My call to you is to strengthen your focus on developing the capacity of families to effectively respond to the negative impacts of climate change. As climate change is affecting everyone regardless of their status, it will be important to leave no family behind in climate change adaptation and mitigation efforts. The reality of Vision 2030 can be realised when developmental efforts by all stakeholders have a family lens that will strengthen communities and the nation at large.

On this note, I therefore declare the International Day of Families for 2024 officially launched.

I THANK YOU

Government Maintains Passport Fees in USD Despite ZiG Introduction

By A Correspondent|ZimEye

In a recent announcement, the Zimbabwean government confirmed that passport fees will continue to be charged in United States Dollars (USD), despite the introduction of the new Zimbabwean Investment Guidelines (ZiG) currency.

Government spokesman Nick Mangwana emphasized the decision, citing contractual obligations with the Lithuanian company Garsu Pasaulis, which played a pivotal role in establishing the electronic passport system.

Mangwana stated in a press release on X, “The government will continue to charge passport fees in foreign currency despite the introduction of a new currency because of a contractual obligation with the company that helped to establish the electronic passport system.”

The collaboration with Garsu Pasaulis has been instrumental in addressing the longstanding issue of passport backlogs in Zimbabwe.

The introduction of the e-passport system has not only streamlined the passport application process but has also significantly enhanced efficiency within the passport issuance department.

The decision to maintain passport fees in USD reflects the government’s commitment to honoring contractual agreements and ensuring the sustainability of critical infrastructure projects. Despite the transition to the ZiG currency in other sectors of the economy, certain arrangements necessitate adherence to existing contractual terms.

While the use of foreign currency for passport fees may pose challenges for some citizens, particularly amidst economic uncertainties, the government affirms its dedication to providing essential services without interruption. The electronic passport system represents a significant investment in modernizing administrative processes and improving service delivery to citizens.

Moreover, the decision to uphold passport fees in USD underscores the importance of international partnerships in driving technological advancements and enhancing public services.

Collaborations with reputable companies like Garsu Pasaulis demonstrate Zimbabwe’s commitment to leveraging external expertise for national development initiatives.

As the government continues to navigate economic reforms and transition to the ZiG currency, maintaining stability and consistency in critical sectors such as passport issuance remains a top priority.

By honoring contractual obligations and prioritizing efficient service delivery, Zimbabwe aims to bolster investor confidence and foster sustainable economic growth.

The Zimbabwean government’s decision to retain passport fees in USD underscores its commitment to honoring contractual agreements and ensuring the continued functionality of essential services.

The partnership with Garsu Pasaulis has proven instrumental in modernizing passport issuance processes and alleviating historical backlogs.

As Zimbabwe progresses on its path towards economic recovery and development, maintaining stability and efficiency in critical infrastructure projects will be essential for long-term success.

Rights Lawyers Rescue 7 Ladies Of The Night Arrested In Masvingo

By A Correspondent| Magistrate has shamed police and the National Prosecuting Authority after acquitting seven women, who had been arrested and prosecuted for soliciting for prostitution in a case which exposes the ill-treatment of women as second class citizens in Zimbabwe.

The seven women namely Tanaka Dzoro aged 18 years, Martha Chirume aged 22 years, Sharon Mapurisa aged 21 years, Fortunate Chauraya aged 28 years, Stabile Mpandile aged 20 years, Cynthia Chihota aged 35 years and Natasha Siziba aged 21 years, who are residents of Masvingo, were arrested on 17 April at Mucheke bus terminus by the police, who charged them with soliciting for prostitution as defined in section 81 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act.

During trial, which commenced on 22 April at Masvingo Magistrates Court, prosecutors alleged that Dzoro, Chirume, Mapurisa, Chauraya, Mpandile, Chihota and Siziba, were arrested by ZRP officers from Chikato Police Station, who included Sergeant Dube and Constable Dzingira, when they were indecently dressed while soliciting for sex.

The prosecutors claimed that the seven women, who were represented by Collen Maboke of the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights, had no right to act in the manner that they allegedly did.

However, Masvingo Magistrate Mudzingo on 29 April acquitted Dzoro, Chirume, Mapurisa, Chauraya, Mpandile, Chihota and Siziba at the close of the prosecution case after finding them not guilty of committing the alleged offence of soliciting.

Magistrate Mudzingo ruled that there were several inconsistencies in the testimony of ZRP officers, who testified as state witnesses during trial and that prosecutors had failed to bring to court some witnesses, who should have been offering their services to the women allegedly soliciting for sex.

In intervening to assist the seven women, ZLHR felt that their arrest by ZRP officers, was discriminatory as it only targeted women because of their gender.

Police Fail To Deal With Sprouting Moneychangers

Man Kills Colleague With Plank

By A Correspondent |ZimEye

In a development parallel to the tragic incident involving juveniles in Masvingo, authorities have made an arrest in connection with another case of murder.

Tanaka Hora, aged 26, was apprehended by police following an altercation at Rumwanda Business Centre in Masvingo on 11/05/24, which resulted in the death of Jefrees Mukonzi, aged 21.

According to police reports, the altercation escalated when the suspect allegedly assaulted the victim with a plank, striking him once on the forehead.

Mukonzi sustained critical injuries and tragically succumbed while receiving treatment at Chipanda Clinic in Masvingo.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, once again highlighting the devastating consequences of violence and conflict. As authorities continue their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the altercation, questions arise regarding the factors that led to such a tragic outcome.

Violent incidents like these serve as stark reminders of the importance of conflict resolution and the need for peaceful coexistence within communities. They underscore the

pressing need for initiatives aimed at promoting dialogue, understanding, and non-violent conflict resolution.

While the arrest of the suspect represents a step towards justice for the victim and their family, it also underscores the role of law enforcement in maintaining public safety and holding perpetrators of violence accountable for their actions.

Community leaders and advocates for peace have called for greater emphasis on preventative measures, including education on conflict resolution and the provision of support services for individuals at risk of engaging in violent behavior.

In the wake of this tragedy, there is a renewed sense of urgency in addressing the root causes of violence and promoting a culture of peace and tolerance within society. It is imperative that communities come together to condemn violence in all its forms and work towards building safer and more resilient environments for all.

As the investigation into the case continues, authorities are urging anyone with information relevant to the incident to come forward and assist in the pursuit of justice.

Through collective action and solidarity, communities can strive towards a future where such senseless acts of violence are no longer tolerated.

HARARE, Zimbabwe | By A Correspondent | — In a bold display of extravagance, controversial businessman Wicknell Chivayo has once again captured public attention by showcasing an immense collection of 293 shoe brands, despite ongoing criticism over his unfulfilled promises and alleged mismanagement of funds.

Chivayo, who previously faced scrutiny for failing to deliver on the Gwanda Solar Project—a venture for which he was reportedly advanced USD 5 million—uploaded a video on Wednesday morning that paraded his extensive assortment of footwear.

This ostentatious show of wealth comes amid advice from a Chimurenga music legend, who suggested that Chivayo should contribute his “unaccounted wealth” to the less fortunate rather than flaunting it.

The timing of Chivayo’s latest boast is particularly striking, given the lack of significant business achievements linked to the public funds he received. Critics argue that the resources spent on personal luxuries like his 293 pairs of shoes could have been invested in local enterprises, potentially creating jobs and boosting the Zimbabwean economy.

Imagine if the money spent on these shoes went towards establishing a small shoe manufacturing plant, commented renowned cartoonist Tony Namate. “Instead of continuously importing luxury items, such investments could help in setting up local industries like a vehicle assembly plant, significantly empowering the local workforce and economy.”

Despite these suggestions, Chivayo seems unfazed by the criticism. In his video, he defiantly addressed his detractors, saying, “Those who say I am uneducated…Here are my 293 shoes.”

The video tour of his home revealed at least two rooms filled with over 457 pairs of shoes, a stark symbol of his lavish lifestyle funded by questionable means.

The public reaction has been mixed, with many expressing outrage over his apparent misuse of funds and lack of social responsibility, while others are dazzled by the sheer scale of his possessions.

As debates continue on social media and in public forums, the call for Chivayo to redirect his resources towards more productive and community-focused ventures grows louder, though it remains to be seen if he will heed these appeals.

Masvingo Teenagers Kill Infant for Bedwetting

By A Correspondent|ZimEye

In a harrowing and heart-wrenching event, two teenagers, both aged 13, stand accused of brutally assaulting an infant, aged just three years old, to death.

The tragic incident unfolded in the Zimuto area of Masvingo, leaving a community in shock and disbelief.

In an official statement released on Tuesday, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed the devastating details of the case.

“ZRP is investigating a case of murder which occurred in Chikoto Village, Chief Zimuto, Masvingo on 12/05/24 in which two male juveniles (13) allegedly assaulted a male infant aged 3 with sticks after accusing him of bedwetting.

The victim succumbed to injuries whilst admitted at Masvingo Provincial Hospital,” the police statement revealed.

The circumstances surrounding the incident have sparked outrage and condemnation from across the country. The notion that children, barely into their teenage years, could perpetrate such a heinous act has left many grappling with shock and disbelief. The vulnerability of the victim, coupled with the innocence associated with childhood, adds a layer of profound tragedy to the unfolding story.

Authorities have launched a thorough investigation into the matter, aiming to uncover the motives behind the senseless violence and ensure that justice is served. The ZRP has pledged to leave no stone unturned in their pursuit of truth and accountability.

Community leaders and child welfare advocates have called for urgent action to address the underlying issues that may have contributed to such a horrific event. Issues of mental health, societal pressures, and access to support services for vulnerable children must be addressed comprehensively to prevent similar tragedies from occurring in the future.

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of fostering a culture of empathy, compassion, and support within communities. It underscores the critical role that parents, caregivers, and educators play in nurturing positive behaviors and addressing conflicts in non-violent ways.

As the investigation unfolds and the community grapples with the aftermath of this unspeakable tragedy, there is a collective call for reflection and action. It is imperative that society comes together to protect its most vulnerable members and create a safer, more nurturing environment for all children to thrive.

“This incident is a tragic reminder of the need for greater vigilance and support for our children.

We are committed to ensuring that those responsible for this heinous act are brought to justice, and that measures are put in place to prevent such tragedies from occurring in the future, ” the ZRP said.

Diamond Theft Exposes Tensions in Zimbabwe’s Gem Trade

By A Correspondent| Zimbabwean authorities are investigating the alleged theft of diamonds by Anjin Investments and Minerals Marketing Corporation of Zimbabwe (MMCZ) officials at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport (RGM). This incident has shed light on a deeper conflict within the country’s diamond trade.

A government official, speaking anonymously, claims the theft is part of a smear campaign by a diamond cartel upset over losing control of the trade. This cartel, allegedly led by diamond dealer Jamal Ahmed (who was blacklisted in 2022), previously dominated the opaque diamond selling process in Zimbabwe.

The government source argues that a recent partnership between Zimbabwe Consolidated Diamonds Company (ZCDC) and Dubai-based firm Erleen Gold Trading aims to increase transparency. Diamonds are now sold through public tenders in Dubai, eliminating the backroom deals previously suspected.

The source emphasizes that Erleen Gold is merely an agent, channeling all diamond sale proceeds back to ZCDC. Prices are determined by the market through international tenders, not by Erleen Gold. This newfound transparency is believed to be behind the alleged smear campaign.

While this is the first diamond purchase from Anjin by Erleen Gold, the source claims Anjin will ultimately receive a 20% price increase compared to the last tender. The source also highlights a growing problem of diamond smuggling, which the new system aims to combat.

Sources allege a network of disgruntled middlemen and corrupt MMCZ/ZCDC officials are trying to sabotage the ZCDC-Erleen Gold venture. This cartel reportedly thrives under the old, non-transparent system.

For the first time, Zimbabwean diamonds are openly advertised internationally. Erleen Gold tailors stones for specific markets, maximizing profits shared with ZCDC. They essentially act as ZCDC’s partner in finance, technical expertise, marketing, and international sales.

Efforts to reach Erleen Gold, ZCDC, and MMCZ for comment were unsuccessful. The shadow of the past looms large, as a 2021 audit revealed unaccounted-for diamonds worth US$140 million in MMCZ and ZCDC repositories.

Ziyambi Ziyambi Mocks Mutsvangwa Family Over Son’s Arrest

By A Correspondent| Justice Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi has mocked his colleague and Women Affairs minister Monica Mutsvangwa following the arrest of her son Neville on charges of illegal foreign currency trading.

Addressing Zanu PF supporters in Mashonaland West, Ziyambi said the current clampdown did not consider whether one is a child of party bigwigs.

He confirmed that among the illegal forex traders where children of Zanu PF chefs but warned that this time they will not be spared.

“Vari kuita huny’any’a vana vemashefu, rwendo rwuno hakuna mwana wa shefu, ndozvatiri kuita,” said Ziyambi.

The Mutsvangwas were recently fuming following their son Neville’s arrest, claiming political persecution targeted at them for standing firm in support of President Emmerson Mnangagwa in the Zanu PF factional fights.

Chris Mutsvangwa went as far as accusing Vice President Constantino Chiwenga of causing his son’s arrest.

Authorities In Trouble With Parents After Zanu PF Crashes School Bus

Parents whose children go to Mapanzure Government High School are up in arms with the school authorities over the school bus which was involved in an accident while transporting 65 Zanu PF Women’s League members to Victoria Falls for a cooking competition organized by the First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa in May 2022.

The parents are saying there won’t be any sporting activities at the school and the school cannot hire any vehicle using their money to pay for transport services until the bus which was estimated to be worth US$150 000 has been returned.

The School Development Committee (SDC) Chairperson Natiel Chimbuya confirmed the matter and said he was failing to control the parents’ anger, calling for the responsible authorities to intervene and make sure the bus is replaced.

“We were at a meeting today (Thursday, May 9) but we have failed to find a solution to the school bus challenge. Parents are angry and they have resolved that they won’t pay sports fees and learners will not go for sports anywhere until the bus is brought back,” said Chimbuya.

Efforts to get a comment from the District School Inspector (DSI) Ishmael Chigaba were futile as he said he was in a workshop and did not respond to a text message sent to him.

The Provincial Education Director Shyllatte Mhike was not available for comment as her cell went unanswered several times.

He said the school head was in trouble with the parents who accused him of allowing Zanu PF to use the bus which they bought using their own money.

“When we do meetings we try by all means to shield the head because parents are angry, they accuse him of allowing Zanu PF to abuse the school bus. At times we do meetings without him because the angry parents would always want to attack him,” said Chimbuya.

Contacted for comment Zanu PF provincial spokesperson Pepukai Chiwewe said as a party they sympathized with the school and the parents, saying he was not sure of the current state of the matter and promised to look into it.

He said however, schools and any vehicle owners should make sure that their vehicles are insured because accidents happen regardless of who hired the bus.

“I am not sure of the position of that matter now but I will make enquiries to establish if it is the party that should repair or replace the bus because they had hired it. However, we do sympathize with the school and the parents and we would want to see the bus back at school for all to benefit.

“I would also want to urge all vehicle owners to make sure that their vehicles are insured because accidents happen regardless of who is using it,” said Chiwewe.

The accident happened at the 35km peg along Masvingo – Mashava Road and the women were later booked at Maponga Lodge, a few hundred metres from where the accident happened.

The cooking competition is one of the many projects that the First Lady has been carrying out in her outreach to disadvantaged communities. School buses are bought by parents through the SDCs at great cost and headmasters or school authorities with political interests seek favours from Zanu PF by hiring out buses to the party for free.

The accident happened after a landmark ruling made by Justice Joseph Mafusire at the High Court in Masvingo barring political parties from using school buses or taking school children to rallies, also barring political parties from using school premises and furniture.

Zanu PF Desperately Tries To Convince Citizens To Embrace ZiG

We support all the policies by the government because they are development-centred.”

“Our government is ZANU PF-led, hence, we are mandated to support all the policies and initiatives they introduce. We have come here just to hear facts and understand about the new currency such that we will be able to disseminate correct information about our ZiG,” said the ZANU PF Masvingo provincial chairman, Robson Mavhenyengwa.

In a statement, the President exalted the role the two played in serving the nation in their respective roles.

“I received with deep sadness news of the unexpected passing on last week of Chief Shana of Hwange, and Reverend Ellison Kamupira, the Chaplain General of Nyaradzo Funeral Services.

“Chief Shana stood out as figure whose services to our Nation went beyond the immediate jurisdiction of his Chieftaincy, to encompass the National Council of Chiefs which he served with

Zim Jail for Woman Who Sold Baby in South Africa

A 23-year-old woman from Gokwe has been convicted of selling her newborn baby in South Africa. Initially, she had falsely claimed that her baby had died, but later admitted her guilt in contravention of the Trafficking in Persons Act during proceedings before a Harare Magistrate. The sentencing for her offense is scheduled for today.

According to court testimony, the woman gave birth in South Africa in June of the previous year and subsequently sold her son just two days after his birth. An accomplice aided in smuggling the baby into Zimbabwe. However, law enforcement acted swiftly on a tip-off, resulting in the woman’s arrest. The baby was then placed under the care of the Department of Social Welfare.

Upon learning of her arrest, the woman returned home in an attempt to reclaim the baby. However, she was apprehended and brought before the court to face the consequences of her actions.

This distressing case highlights the tragic consequences of human trafficking and the exploitation of vulnerable individuals, particularly newborns. As the sentencing looms, the court is tasked with administering justice and sending a clear message about the severity of such crimes.- Agencies

Witnesses Accuse Maureen Kademaunga of Ordering Assaults

The trial of Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) legislator for Sunningdale Constituency, Maureen Kademaunga, took a dramatic turn on Tuesday as witnesses testified, accusing her of assault. Kademaunga, along with alleged accomplices Councillor Clayd Mashozhera, Noel Munhuwei, and Daudi Jessub, is facing charges of attempted murder.

Two witnesses took the stand, both asserting that Kademaunga ordered the assaults before their cars were damaged. Spencer Mudarikwa, the second witness, corroborated the testimony of the first witness, recounting the events on the eve of the August 2023 General Elections. Mudarikwa claimed they were blocked by the accused, and he overheard Kademaunga instructing her alleged accomplices to assault the complainants.

During cross-examination, the defense questioned Mudarikwa’s inconsistency between his evidence-in-chief and his police statement. Mudarikwa attributed the difference to potential translation errors when his statement was written in Shona.

The state presented a blood-stained jean trousers as an exhibit, further intensifying the trial. The proceedings are set to continue on the 27th of this month as the case unfolds.

In a separate case, 24-year-old Shantel Chikwana appeared in court, accused of extorting her ex-lover. Allegedly, Chikwana threatened her former partner with rape accusations unless he paid her. The complainant eventually handed over US$4,700 before reporting the matter to the authorities.

The developments in both cases underscore the complexities of legal proceedings and the gravity of the charges faced by the accused. As the trials progress, the courts will be tasked with determining the truth behind the allegations and delivering justice accordingly.

Thefts at Bishop Nehemiah Mutendi’s Farm Amidst Past Security Concerns

In a concerning turn of events, Bishop Nehemiah Mutendi, leader of the Zion Christian Church (ZCC) in Gokwe and a notable figure recently linked to a promised donation by convicted fraudster Wicknell Chivayo, has suffered another security breach at his property. This recent incident involved the theft of two goats from his farm, marking another episode of misfortune following a violent robbery at his brother’s farm in December 2024.

The theft occurred on May 1, 2024, when Christian Hamadziripi, a 28-year-old herdboy employed at the ZCC farm, was caught red-handed stealing goats. Clever Mupindu, a security guard, apprehended Hamadziripi following a tip-off and intercepted him as he was taking the goats from their pen. The magistrate, Grace Tupiri, sentenced Hamadziripi to nine months in jail, later commuted to 310 hours of community service, highlighting a stern response to crime within the community.

This incident shadows a grievous robbery at the farm of Herbert Mutendi, Bishop Mutendi’s brother, where he was shot and robbed by armed assailants. The attackers made off with significant valuables, escalating concerns about security around the Mutendi family’s properties.

The local police are on high alert, and community members are urged to cooperate with law enforcement to prevent further criminal activities. The ZCC community and the Mutendi family continue to recover from these unsettling events, hoping for peace and safety in their endeavors.- Agencies/MasvingoMirror

BREAKING: FB Removes Mai Titi’s Threatening Video, And Restores Tete Mildred’s Monetisation | EXCLUSIVE

By A Correspondent | ZimEye | Facebooker, Felistas Murata has been found to have used a video without permission on her social media platforms to intimidate witnesses linked to a case filed under CR 124/11/20 at the Rotten Row Magistrates Court in Malborough. This follows her earlier conviction in 2023 for related offenses. Additionally, Murata was deported from Heathrow Airport on April 28, 2024, after being found to marketed on FB and illegally exported unauthorised goods into the UK while abusing her visa.

The video she misused was originally created to support legal complainants, but was altered by Murata to falsely present herself as innocent amidst these legal troubles. Murata is also confirmed to have orchestrated a group to misuse Facebook’s content reporting mechanisms.

As a result, the account of one of her victims, named Mildred Meda has been restored of its monetisation facilities.

Murata was also found to have run a Ponzi scheme, which led to substantial financial losses for numerous individuals, with documented losses exceeding GBP 15,000 from one victim alone. Links and documentation provided by victims substantiate these claims, indicating a pattern of fraudulent behaviour facilitated through her Facebook posts.

The original creator of the video has called on Facebook to remove the content and to impose further sanctions on Murata, underscoring the urgency for social media platforms to enforce strict measures to curb misuse and protect users from online harassment and intimidation.

This evolving situation alerts accomplices and supporters of Murata to the potential legal ramifications they could face, as authorities tighten enforcement based on solid legal precedents in both the US and UK. The case serves as a critical reminder of the vigilance needed by digital platforms to detect and deter misuse, protecting users from fraud and harassment while maintaining the integrity of online spaces.

ARE YOU ALSO A VICTIM OF MAI TITI?

The following are some of the key statutes and legal principles that might be relied upon in prosecuting such cases:

United Kingdom -Fraud Act 2006: This Act covers fraud by false representation, failure to disclose information, and abuse of position. It could be applied to the Ponzi scheme allegations and any deceptive practices used in the misuse of media.

Misuse of Drugs Act 1971: If the harmful substances exported are controlled under this Act, charges could be brought for their illegal exportation.

Computer Misuse Act 1990: This Act would address illegal activities conducted online, including hacking or the misuse of social media platforms to intimidate witnesses or commit fraud.

Harassment Act 1997: Given the allegations of using media to intimidate witnesses, this Act could be relevant for addressing any behavior that causes alarm or distress.

United States Wire Fraud Statute (18 U.S.C § 1343): This could cover schemes to defraud where electronic communications are used, applicable to both the alleged Ponzi scheme and possibly the misuse of media. Controlled Substances Act: For the illegal exportation of harmful substances, if they are regulated under this Act, charges could be considered.

RICO Act (Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act): If there’s an ongoing illegal enterprise involving multiple accomplices, this Act could be used to address the broader criminal network.

Computer Fraud and Abuse Act (CFAA): This could be used to prosecute unauthorized access or excess use of computers or networks, pertinent to any misuse of social media platforms.

South Africa- Prevention of Organised Crime Act 121 of 1998 (POCA): This Act tackles organized crime, money laundering, and gang-related activities, which could be relevant if the Ponzi scheme is extensive and organized.

Protection from Harassment Act 2011: This could address the use of media to intimidate or harass witnesses.

Electronic Communications and Transactions Act 2002: This Act deals with online transactions and communications, making it relevant for prosecuting fraud and misuse of digital media.

Medicines and Related Substances Act 1965: Regulates the handling and distribution of harmful substances, potentially covering illegal exports.

Prosecutors would choose the specific charges based on the details of the actions involved, the nature of the evidence, and the jurisdictions where the crimes occurred. Each of these laws provides a framework to address different aspects of the alleged criminal activities.-ZimEye

Two Zimbos Killed In George Building Collapse

By Political Correspondent- It’s been a grim ordeal as news emerges that two Zimbabweans are among the casualties of the tragic collapse of an apartment building in George, Western Cape, South Africa.

Rescue operations have been tirelessly ongoing for eight days now since the catastrophic event unfolded last Monday afternoon at 75 Victoria Street, trapping 81 individuals under the rubble.

In the latest update, 59 workers have been successfully rescued and accounted for, while 13 others are receiving medical attention. Sadly, the death toll has climbed to 30 people.

Zimbabweans in the area have since launched an appeal for donations from well-wishers so that they could repatriate the two bodies.

Meanwhile, the harrowing wait persists for the fate of the remaining 22 workers who are still unaccounted for.

Chantel Edwards, the municipality spokesperson, emphasized that the paramount focus remains on ongoing rescue endeavours.

The scene of the collapsed building, obscured by cordons, reveals the stark reality of the tragedy.

This collapse occurred in an apartment block still under construction, entangling numerous individuals in its ruin.

On Monday night, George’s municipality confirmed that 51 people had yet to be located.

Out of the 24 individuals already retrieved from the debris, three were discovered to have lost their lives.

Search teams, aided by sniffer dogs, continue their exhaustive efforts to locate the missing persons.

As families grapple with the anguish of loss, the Department of Social Development extends its support to the affected families.

Official personnel from George Municipality, SAPS, and the Western Cape Government stand united at the scene, coordinating the intricate search and rescue operation.

In this dire hour, Gift of the Givers has also joined forces, lending their assistance to the ongoing rescue mission.

Bush Toilets In Mnangagwa’s Hometown

By Municipal Reporter- Individuals conducting business within Kwekwe’s Central Business District have resorted to using bushes as toilets due to the city’s failure to maintain public facilities.

Kwekwe happens to be the hometown of President Emmerson Mnangagwa, whose farm lies less than 50 kilometres away from the city.

Similar conditions prevail at the Farmers Market in Mbizo 2.

This issue sparked heated discussions during a full council meeting last week, with councillors questioning management’s inaction regarding the dysfunctional and blocked public toilets in Kwekwe, which pose a severe health risk as residents resort to using the surrounding bushes.

Responding to public outcry, Ncube promptly instructed the council to promptly address the problems.

Councillor Siziwe Ncube expressed concern during the meeting, stating, “What is delaying the process of having functional public toilets? Because as it is, we are not safe.”

Mayor Albert Zinhanga urged management to thoroughly inspect all public toilets and undertake necessary repairs.

Town clerk Dr Lucia Mkandhla emphasized the urgency of the matter, stating, “This is an urgent matter, the situation is unacceptable because we have dedicated plumbers for the job, and we need to know why there is no progress.”

Engineer John Mhike, Director of Works, informed the council that his department needed to be made aware that the materials required for the repairs had been procured.

He stated, “I am hearing it now that the materials were procured because we could not do anything without the necessary materials.”

In a gesture of support, one councillor, Dr. Solomon Matsa, offered a piece of his land for the construction of toilets in the CBD.

Mutsvangwa Exhibits Presidential Ambitions

By Political Reporter- Zanu PF spokesperson Christopher Mutsvangwa has hinted that he could become the next President, saying he is more senior than Vice President Constantino Chiwenga.

Mutsvangwa showed this when he caused the former military boss to arrest his son Navelli on allegations of money laundering and illegal dealing in cash.

Chiwenga was the leader of the junta, which kicked out the late President Robert Mugabe from power in November 2017 in a military coup.

Mutsvangwa maintained 44-year-old Neville Mutsvangwa’s innocence, claiming that his arrest was the work of adversaries  “trying to abuse the judiciary system, hoping that I can have an attitude against the state.”

Mutsvangwa’s wife, also claimed her son’s arrest was “political victimisation.”

Mutsvangwa, who was clever not to name Chiwenga in the interview with The Standard, left enough clues about the target of his attack.

He claimed that he had “established beyond any doubt” that Mnangagwa had not instigated the arrest, “so it is somebody else who thinks that he is wearing the shoes of the head of state to manipulate the relationship between me and the president.”

“You know, the gate to power according to the constitution is through an election, not through games and shenanigans and subterfuge… I don’t answer to ambitious individuals,” Mutsvangwa said, referring to Chiwenga’s reported ambitions to be Zanu PF and the country’s next leader when Mnangagwa’s second and final term ends in 2028.

Mutsvangwa appeared at pains to portray his relationship with Mnangagwa as close – even after the President sacked him from his cabinet in February for insubordination when he refused to relinquish his role as chairman of the war veterans association. Mnangagwa had given him a choice between being a minister for veterans, or leading the association. He insisted on being both.

To buttress his claims of loyalty to Mnangagwa over many years, he said he was one of Mnangagwa’s “pioneer recruits to his office of personal assistant” at the age of 22 in 1978, a year after Mnangagwa – who had spent time in Tanzania – returned to Mozambique where the liberation movement ZANLA had set up its war headquarters.

While Mnangagwa returned to Mozambique in 1977, Mutsvangwa made the point that Chiwenga arrived from Tanzania in 1978, “a year before we won, a year before victory.”

“Remember the war was in Mozambique and not in Tanzania,” Mutsvangwa said.

Zimbabwe’s guerilla war with white occupiers was brief, say historians, as it intensified from the end of 1977 to 1979 when the white settler government in the then Southern Rhodesia agreed to black majority rule at a conference in the United Kingdom. The war effort mainly involved sabotage activities on infrastructure and sporadic attacks on white farmers.

“I was already working with the president,” Mutsvangwa told The Standard. “I think that proximity to him, my proximity to the President, they think through their post-independence proximity to the President they can influence him against me, or me against him.

“It’s an impossibly long shot for the power ambitious to ever think they can drive a wedge into such a long, strong and revolutionary acquaintance between me and the President.

“Persecuting my son as a carrot and stick to that nefarious enterprise will never yield the much-craved outcome.”

Neville Mutsvangwa appeared before a Harare magistrate on Friday and was remanded to Monday for his bail hearing.

The case will be a test for the country’s judiciary, which has so far denied bail to over 100 people arrested on charges of illegal dealing in currency as the government attempts to shore up its new currency, the ZiG.

Highlanders coach Kelvin Kaindu has rued the absence of Melikhaya Ncube in their 2-0 loss against FC Platinum on Sunday.

Ncube missed the game through suspension following an accumulation of yellow cards.

Speaking after the match, Kaindu said: “We were unsettled in the first 10 minutes that we conceded two goals and it is always difficult to come back, especially against a team like FC Platinum. I think Melikhaya’s absence could have affected us.

“We didn’t convert chances that came our way. Our opponents scored utilised the chances they got.

Even in the second half we looked a bit stronger but unfortunately we couldn’t get the goals in terms of converting the chances that we had created.”

Bosso conceded two early goals from Juan Mutudza and Lawrence Mhlanga and failed to recover.

Mutudza opened the scoring in the 2nd minute with a quality effort before Mhlanga added another one eight minutes later.

The hosts dominated the play in the following moments and created a couple of chances with Lynoth Chikuhwa getting the bulk of it.

Bishop Ancelimo Magaya Speaks On Arrest of Neville Mutsvangwa

By A Correspondent|ZimEye

In the wake of the arrest of Neville Mutsvangwa, son of Zanu PF heavyweight Christopher Mutsvangwa, Zimbabwean cleric Bishop Ancelimo Magaya has issued a statement urging reflection and reform within the country’s political landscape.

Casting a critical eye on the recent developments, Bishop Magaya emphasized the need for justice and a holistic approach to address the root causes of Zimbabwe’s economic challenges.

“Whether the arrest of Neville Mutsvangwa reflects the schism within Zanu PF or is an act of justice, the development confirms what we have always warned: that there is no guaranteed security in the politics and life of double standards,” declared Bishop Magaya, highlighting the precarious nature of Zimbabwean politics.

Drawing parallels to past events, Bishop Magaya referenced the arrests of prominent figures such as Chombo, Moyo, Kasukuwere, and Zhuwao, as well as the late President Mugabe, to underscore the risks inherent in Zimbabwe’s political landscape.

He cautioned against complacency in the face of perceived power, stressing that no one is immune from the consequences of moral failure and misgovernance.

Bishop Magaya also addressed the inflammatory remarks made by Christopher Mutsvangwa, insinuating the arrest of advocate Chamisa, and linked them to Neville Mutsvangwa’s detention.

However, he urged for a more justice-based and holistic approach to addressing Zimbabwe’s economic woes, emphasizing the need to tackle corruption, violence, and injustices at the highest levels of government.

Referencing ancient scripture, Bishop Magaya highlighted the correlation between moral decay and economic collapse, citing Isaiah 1:21-23.

He called upon President Mnangagwa and his cabinet to engage in introspection, genuine repentance, and seek godly counsel in order to address the fundamental issues plaguing the nation.

“A more justice-based and holistic approach (that addresses the root cause of our economic failures) will be key in unlocking economic revival,” asserted Bishop Magaya, emphasizing the importance of moral leadership and governance reform in steering Zimbabwe towards prosperity.

Bishop Magaya echoed a fervent plea for God’s intervention to save Zimbabwe, underscoring the urgent need for decisive action and principled leadership to navigate the country through its current challenges.

Tshabangu In Bid To Unite Opposition

By A Correspondent |ZimEye

In a surprising turn of events, Sengezo Tshabangu, the controversial interim Secretary General of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), has embarked on a mission to unite the opposition forces in Zimbabwe.

Widely viewed as a Zanu PF proxy by many within the opposition ranks, Tshabangu’s recent declaration has stirred both intrigue and skepticism among political observers.

Amidst criticism for allegedly undermining the strength of the opposition movement, Tshabangu has now publicly voiced his intention to foster unity within the fractured political landscape of Zimbabwe.

In a statement issued on Monday, Tshabangu addressed the perceived rifts within the opposition ranks, asserting, “There’s no bad blood between myself and my fellow opposition family members but the only difference is that of our ways of playing the game.”

Tshabangu’s declaration comes at a critical juncture for Zimbabwean politics, with the country grappling with economic challenges and a restless populace demanding change.

As the interim Secretary General of CCC, a party formed by the merger of several opposition factions, Tshabangu’s stance holds significant weight in shaping the future trajectory of the opposition movement.

Despite facing vehement criticism for his alleged alignment with Zanu PF, Tshabangu remains resolute in his commitment to democratic principles. “I believe in democracy not autocracy,” he asserted, reaffirming his dedication to upholding fundamental rights and freedoms within the political arena.

Moreover, Tshabangu emphasized the importance of prioritizing national interests above partisan agendas.

“Above all, national issues must be upheld for the betterment of the citizenry,” he remarked, underscoring the need for a collective approach to address the pressing challenges facing Zimbabwe.

However, Tshabangu’s sudden call for unity has sparked mixed reactions within the opposition circles.

While some view his overtures as a genuine attempt to bridge ideological divides and consolidate opposition forces, others remain skeptical of his intentions, citing his perceived allegiance to the ruling party.

In response to skepticism surrounding his motives, Tshabangu reiterated his commitment to the principles of democracy and inclusivity.

“My goal is not to divide, but to unite,” he asserted, appealing to fellow opposition members to set aside differences in pursuit of a common goal – the advancement of democracy and the welfare of the Zimbabwean people.

As Zimbabwe navigates through a pivotal phase in its political landscape, the fate of the opposition movement hangs in the balance.

Whether Tshabangu’s bid to unite the opposition will yield tangible results remains uncertain, but his actions have undoubtedly ignited a dialogue on the imperative of solidarity and cooperation in shaping Zimbabwe’s future.

Mnangagwa Recruits More Green Bombers

By A Correspondent|ZimEye

In a move that has stirred controversy and raised concerns among Zimbabwean citizens, the administration of President Emmerson Mnangagwa is reportedly recruiting members for the notorious national youth service. This decision, viewed by many as a political maneuver aimed at consolidating power, has reignited fears of heightened state-sponsored intimidation and violence.

The national youth service members, often referred to as the “Green Bombers,” has a notorious reputation for its role in perpetrating acts of terror and violence against civilians, particularly during periods of political unrest.

Now, with reports of recruitment for the 2024 intake circulating, apprehension mounts regarding the potential implications for Zimbabwe’s already fragile political landscape.

A government source, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed the ongoing recruitment efforts, stating, “Youth Service in Zimbabwe intake 2024, recruitment is in progress.”

This revelation has sent shockwaves through the populace, prompting renewed scrutiny of Mnangagwa’s administration and its commitment to democratic principles.

Critics argue that the resurgence of the national youth service under Mnangagwa’s leadership represents a cynical ploy to bolster his grip on power through coercion and intimidation.

The history of the Green Bombers is marred by allegations of human rights abuses and political violence, raising alarm bells about the potential implications of their expanded presence in Zimbabwean society.

Responding to concerns about the recruitment drive, opposition figures and civil society activists have condemned the move as a blatant attempt to suppress dissent and stifle political opposition.

“The recruitment of Green Bombers is a clear indication of Mnangagwa’s authoritarian tendencies,” remarked one opposition leader, highlighting the apprehension surrounding the administration’s motives.

Moreover, the prospect of increased militarization within Zimbabwean youth ranks has raised questions about the government’s commitment to fostering a peaceful and inclusive society.

With memories of past atrocities perpetrated by the Green Bombers still fresh in the minds of many Zimbabweans, there is a palpable sense of unease regarding the potential repercussions of their resurgence.

In response to mounting criticism, government officials have defended the recruitment drive, portraying it as a means of empowering Zimbabwean youth and fostering national unity.

However, skeptics remain unconvinced, citing the checkered history of the national youth service and its association with state-sponsored violence.

As Zimbabwe braces for the implications of the Mnangagwa administration’s decision to revive the national youth service, the specter of political repression looms large over the country.

Whether this recruitment drive will serve as a catalyst for renewed state-sponsored violence or provoke a backlash from civil society remains to be seen.

However, one thing is certain – the fate of Zimbabwe’s democracy hangs in the balance.

Repent Now, Church Boldly Tells Mnangagwa

Whether the arrest of Neville Mutsvangwa reflects the schism within Zanupf or is an act of justice, the development confirms what we have always warned: that there is no guaranteed security in the politics and life of double standards.

There is no one building they edifice on a faulty foundation who is safe.

We warned so in June 2016 and we all know what happened not only to the likes of Chombo, Moyo ,Kasukuwere and Zhuwao but even to the late president Mugabe.

The hatred driven utterances by Mr Mutsvangwa insinuating the arrest of advocate Chamisa upon the latter’s abandonment of the deeply infected CCC fore-boarded the arrest of Neville.

However, a more justice based and holistic approach (that addresses the root cause of our economic failures) will be key in unlocking economic revival.

The ancient prophet (Isaiah 1:21-23) attributes the valuelessness of the national currency to corruption, violence/murder injustices and idolatry practiced by those in very top offices. Put differently, moral failure and misgovernance are the reasons for economic collapse.

Reading the aforesaid portion of Scripture, one gets the sense that they are reading about Zimbabwe.

We call upon President Mnangwagwa and his cabinet to introspect, genuinely repent, seek true Godly counsel and address economic fundamentals.

God save Zimbabwe.

‘Monica Mutsvangwa’s Manipulating Kampira Funeral for Sympathy’

By Kerina Mujati | Good morning, Zimbabwe. Monica Mutsvangwa’s recent behavior exemplifies a new level of arrogance. While she seemed to console the Kampira family, her actions subtly manipulated the situation to garner sympathy for herself. Monica, if you were truly in such a dark place, staying home to find your inner peace would have been preferable. Members of ZANU PF, like Monica, demonstrate poor etiquette in public, often failing to recognize that not every opportunity to speak is an invitation to share personal sorrows.

The event was a celebration of life for Reverend General Kampira, and Monica should have respected that, rather than shifting the focus to her own troubles. It seems you are unaware, Monica, but Zimbabweans are not concerned with your personal issues; rather, they are celebrating their knowledge of the truth about you and your husband, Neville. You both are seen as a national security threat, corrupt beyond measure.

Monica, if you are as burdened by sorrow as you claim, perhaps it’s time to step back and let the nation move forward without your interference. Your family’s sense of entitlement and your attempts to overshadow a funeral are disgraceful.

I suggest you seek advice from Mary Mubaiwa. Despite being younger, she could offer valuable counsel on coping with the harsh realities of politics under Mnangagwa’s rule. Mary Mubaiwa herself has endured his cruelty, once considered a darling, now treated with unimaginable harshness.

Lastly, Monica, it’s imperative that you return the national wealth you’ve taken. Stop defending your son; his actions mark him as a threat to international security and a saboteur of our nation’s interests for personal gain. You were the true criminals of the Mugabe era. #sellouts #Cdesistermwenewazvo #kerinamujati

The Security Conundrum: Unraveling the Neville Mutsvangwa Case in Zimbabwe

By DrCde Adamski Prof Jahman| In recent days, Zimbabwe has been thrust into the spotlight following the arrest of Neville Mutsvangwa, a figure now synonymous with a web of international intrigue and security risks. The decision by the courts to deny him bail has ignited a fervent debate, shining a harsh light on the complexities of modern security challenges facing the nation.

Mutsvangwa’s case is not one to be taken lightly. Apparently the laundry list of confiscated items—ranging from an Estonian ID to numerous foreign bank cards and an alarming cache of SIM cards—paints a picture of a man deeply entrenched in the clandestine world of organized crime. It’s a scenario that warrants a thorough, multinational investigation, one that doesn’t just scratch the surface but delves deep into the heart of international criminal networks.

The presence of an Estonian ID raises particularly troubling questions. Estonia, infamous for its ties to Albanian and Russian mafia elements, is a hotbed of illicit activities, including arms trafficking, drug trade, human trafficking, and money laundering. The implications of Mutsvangwa’s association with such elements cannot be overstated, especially considering the potential threat it poses to national, regional, and international security.

But the saga doesn’t end with Neville. The involvement of Christopher and Monica Mutsvangwa, his parents, adds another layer of complexity to an already convoluted narrative. Their potential complicity in money laundering and their uproar regarding Neville’s activities only serve to deepen suspicions of a broader conspiracy at play.

As the investigation unfolds, it’s imperative that no stone is left unturned. The stakes are too high, and the safety of Zimbabwean citizens hangs in the balance. The authorities must prioritize intelligence gathering and collaboration with international partners, including Interpol, to ensure that justice is served and that the nation is shielded from the looming specter of transnational criminal syndicates.

The parallels with past geopolitical quagmires, such as those witnessed in Nicaragua, Panama, and Congo in the late 1990s, serve as a stark reminder of the dangers of complacency in the face of such threats. Zimbabwe cannot afford to become another casualty in the global struggle against organized crime.

In the end, the Mutsvangwa case serves as a sobering wake-up call—a reminder that the pursuit of justice knows no bounds and that the security of a nation hinges on its ability to confront, head-on, the forces that seek to undermine it. The path ahead may be fraught with challenges, but with unwavering resolve and a commitment to truth and accountability, Zimbabwe can emerge stronger, more resilient, and better equipped to safeguard its future.

Zimpapers’ Workers Paid US$12 Per Month

By A Correspondent| Zimbabwe’s largest media organisation Zimpapers is abusing its contract workers by paying them a paltry US$12 in local ZiG currency a month

According to a pay advise leaked to ZimEye, one of the company’s retainers received ZiG243 which is equivalent of US$12 using parallel market rate.

Zimpapers employs hundreds of workers on six months’ contracts.

On top of the paltry, 243 ZiG, it paid its contract workers, Zimpapers gives out US$ 30 as a transport allowance and mobile data worth US$19 (380ZiG).

The Independent Contractors are required to be at work during the course of the week and are treated the same way as the permanent workers.

It is hard to differentiate between the contractors and the permanent workers as the they operate under same working conditions.

The independent contractors have to fork out their own funeral and medical aid contributions as it is not covered by the company.

Students on attachment are even getting less than US$12 and have to use their own money to come to work every day. More to follow.

Monica Mutsvangwa Hints At More Trouble

By A Correspondent| Women Affairs minister Monica Mutsvangwa has hinted that her family could be going through a lot of troubling moments if her speech at the funeral of renowned preacher and Nyaradzo Group Chaplain General Ellison Kamupira is anything to go by.

In her speech, Monica Mutsvangwa said so many things are happening in her life but she felt she could not miss Kamupira’s funeral because of the role he played in her life.

“VaKamupira vakaita zvinoshamisa mukati meupenyu hwangu, ndauya pano ndiri minister hongu asi ndauya, ndanga ndisipo, vakashaya ndiri kunze kwenyika, ndakasvika marimwe zuro, ndine zvakawanda zviri kuitika mukati meupenyu hwangu,” said Monica.

Loosely translated, Monica said Rev Kamupira did wonderful things in her life that she felt compelled to pay her last respect. She was out of the country when he died adding that so many things are happening in her life at the moment.

Mutsvangwa’s son Neville was recently arrested and charged with illegal foreign currency trading and using Starlink which is not licensed to operate in Zimbabwe.

Neville was yesterday denied bail and remanded in custody to 30 May in what his father Chris Mutsvangwa believes is political persecution for the family’s close association with President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Zanu PF Shut Out Of South African Elections

By A Correspondent| The Independent Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) has shut Zanu PF out of observing the 29 May elections following concerns from opposition parties.

In it’s letter of response to ATM, IEC assured voters that it had not accredited Zanu PF to observe the elections in South Africa.

“The Commission would like to assure you and the ATM community that it has not accredited Zanu PF or any other political party to observe the elections in South Africa,” IEC said.

In a subtle dig at Zanu PF and the potential damage their participation in the South African elections would cause, IEC said it would not engage in anything that compromises the electoral process.

“The Commission strongly believes in the integrity of the elections it manages and therefore safeguards against measures that would compromise its processes,” the Commission added.

South Africa will vote in the general elections slated for 29 May 2024.

Ex-Minister Says ED Authorised Arrest of Political Spokesman’s Son

By Farai D Hove | In a stunning revelation, former Zimbabwean Foreign Affairs Minister Walter Mzembi has alleged that the recent arrest of Neville Mutsvangwa, the son of prominent ZANU PF spokesperson Chris Mutsvangwa and Women’s Affairs Minister Monica Mutsvangwa, was directed by President Emmerson Mnangagwa. Mzembi, who fled to South Africa in 2017 following the military ousting of then-President Robert Mugabe, made these assertions on social media, asserting his intimate knowledge of both past and present governmental operations.

Mzembi’s tweet stated, “No one expects the ZANU PF Spokesman to commit political suicide by finger pointing his boss President Emmerson Mnangagwa of authorising the arrest of his son Neville Mutsvangwa.” He further emphasized the continuity in the political control over arrests, remarking, “No Political or high profile arrests in Zimbabwe happen unless authorised by the President. This is from Mugabe’s time to his successor. Get it from me, I speak with the authority of a victim and former Minister. A Vice President unless Acting President cannot authorize the arrest of anyone, even as Acting unless he is of a sovereign & strong mind he will consult the President on the phone.”

Government officials have maintained silence over the incident, neither confirming nor denying Mzembi’s claims. The implications of such allegations could stir significant controversy within the ruling party, reflecting ongoing power struggles and the sensitive nature of political relations in Zimbabwe.

Neville Mutsvangwa’s arrest and pending trial have already sparked discussions and debates across the nation, with many awaiting further developments. The situation remains tense as analysts await any possible responses from either the President’s office or other high-ranking officials regarding Mzembi’s allegations.

Chevrons Edge Bangladesh

THE Chevrons finally tasted victory in the fifth and final T20 match against Bangladesh, winning by 8 wickets to regain lost pride in a match played this Sunday.

Despite losing the series 4-1, the team showed great spirit and determination to secure a consolation win.

Trailing 4-0, the Chevrons looked a totally different outfit showing exceptional discipline with Brian Bennett and Sikandar Raza scoring twin tons to propel the Chevrons to an honor-restoring eight-wicket victory at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium.

Bennett, who has been part of the top-performing Zimbabweans in the series, scored 70 runs off 49 deliveries, while Raza, who has not sparked all series long, came back to form scoring 72 runs not out to propel the Chevrons to 158-2 in 18.3 overs.

The score meant that the Chevrons crossed the Tigers’ score of 157 runs for six in 20 overs.

Bennett was instrumental in restricting the Bangla batters to that low total being the pick of the bowlers with two scalps for 20 runs in three overs, while Blessing Muzarabani showed up with the same number of wickets with two more runs in four overs to slowdown the Tigers’ power-hitting.

It was no surprise that Brian Bennett was named the man of the match, although his efforts were in vain as Zimbabwe were already trailing the five-match series four-nil prior to the victory.

Bennet was one of the top performers of the series for Zimbabwe alongside series debutant Jonathan Campbell as the veterans retreated during the sub-continent tour.

The 20-year-old scored 16 runs in the first match, before coming an inch closer to a half-ton scoring.

44 runs not out in the second, he however had a torrid time on the crease in the following two matches, while Campbell scored 105 runs for Zimbabwe to make up the top two batsmen in the series for the country.

Zimbabwe won the toss and elected to bowl, restricting Bangladesh to 157 for 6 in their 20 overs.

The win provided solace for the Chevrons with the hope they will utilise this series to build for future tours.

Mnangagwa Imposes ZiG On Zanu PF Members

By A Correspondent|ZimEye

In a move that underscores the Zimbabwean government’s push for the adoption of the new currency, Zimbabwe Gold (ZiG), Zanu PF Manicaland Provincial leadership has issued a directive mandating all party members to embrace the controversial currency.

The directive, reportedly issued by Zanu PF heavyweight Patrick Chinamasa, was revealed over the weekend, signalling a significant shift in the party’s stance towards ZiG.

According to insiders, Chinamasa declared the use of ZiG mandatory among party members during a gathering on Sunday.

“The Provincial Coordinating Committee members are here for the new currency ZiG community engagement.

Politburo members Patrick Chinamasa and Andy Mhlanga are here for the ZiG meeting. ZiG is a must for all members, ” a Zanu PF source disclosed.

Chinamasa’s pronouncement marks a notable departure from the party’s previous cautious stance on ZiG, which has faced skepticism and resistance from some quarters.

The move to compel Zanu PF members to embrace the new currency reflects President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration’s determination to promote its adoption despite widespread concerns.

In response to the directive, Zanu PF members are expected to engage in community outreach initiatives aimed at familiarizing the public with ZiG and promoting its acceptance. The involvement of high-ranking party officials, including Chinamasa and Andy Mhlanga, underscores the significance attached to the adoption of ZiG within Zanu PF ranks.

While proponents argue that ZiG represents a viable solution to Zimbabwe’s economic challenges, critics have raised questions about its legality, stability, and potential impact on the country’s fragile financial system. The government’s push for its widespread adoption has fueled debate and raised concerns among citizens and opposition groups alike.

The decision to enforce ZiG usage within Zanu PF could have far-reaching implications for the currency’s acceptance and broader economic policy in Zimbabwe.

As the government continues to promote ZiG as a cornerstone of its economic recovery efforts, its success will depend significantly on public perception and confidence.

Chinamasa’s directive underscores the government’s resolve to steer Zimbabwe towards economic stability and prosperity, albeit amidst ongoing challenges and uncertainties.

However, the effectiveness of such measures in addressing the root causes of Zimbabwe’s economic woes remains to be seen, with many observers calling for comprehensive reforms and sustainable solutions.

As Zanu PF members mobilize to embrace ZiG, the currency’s future trajectory will be closely monitored both domestically and internationally.

Its success or failure could have profound implications not only for Zimbabwe’s economy but also for the political landscape and broader regional dynamics in Southern Africa.

Zanu PF Varakashi Mock Zimbabweans In UK

By A Correspondent|ZimEye

In a surprising twist, Zanu PF apologists, often referred to as Varakashi, have launched a campaign urging Zimbabweans to reconsider migrating to the United Kingdom, citing exorbitant living costs and economic hardships as compelling reasons to stay in Zimbabwe.

In a statement that has sparked debate and raised eyebrows, Varakashi members claimed that life in the UK is far more challenging and expensive compared to Zimbabwe, contradicting popular perceptions of Western countries as havens of opportunity and prosperity.

“LIFE IN THE UK IS MORE DIFFICULT THAN IN ZIMBABWE,” read a statement attributed to Varakashi.

“I wonder what greener pastures are Zimbabweans living in the UK, looking for when their country is doing better economically,” the statement continued, questioning the motivations behind Zimbabweans seeking better opportunities abroad.

The Varakashi spokesperson went on to express bewilderment at the phenomenon of Zimbabweans returning to their homeland after decades spent in the UK, allegedly without significant financial gains.

“I used to wonder why Zimbabweans who had been living in the UK for over 20 years returned to Zimbabwe empty-handed like they had been captured by a mermaid until I saw this photo. UK economy is hand to mouth,” the statement concluded, implying that the economic situation in the UK is precarious and unsustainable.

The Varakashi campaign represents a departure from the prevailing narrative that portrays emigration to Western countries, particularly the UK, as a pathway to better opportunities and improved living standards.

By challenging this narrative, Varakashi members are attempting to dissuade Zimbabweans from pursuing migration and instead encourage them to invest in their homeland.

However, the campaign has elicited mixed reactions, with some questioning the credibility of Varakashi’s claims and pointing to the socio-economic challenges facing Zimbabwe, including high unemployment, inflation, and currency instability.

Critics argue that while the UK may have its own economic struggles, it still offers opportunities and resources that are unavailable or inaccessible in Zimbabwe.

Moreover, the campaign has reignited debates about the root causes of Zimbabwe’s economic woes and the government’s responsibility in addressing them.

Critics accuse Zanu PF and the ruling elite of mismanagement, corruption, and policies that have contributed to the country’s economic decline, thereby driving citizens to seek better prospects abroad.

As the Varakashi campaign gains traction, it underscores the complexities of migration and the divergent perceptions of opportunities and challenges in different parts of the world.

While the UK may present its own set of difficulties, for many Zimbabweans, the allure of better prospects abroad remains strong, driven by aspirations for a better life and greater opportunities for themselves and their families.

Mnangagwa, Mai Titi Picture Sets Tongues Wagging

By A Correspondent|ZimEye

A recent photograph capturing Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa alongside controversial comedienne Felistas Murata, popularly known as Mai Titi, has ignited a storm of controversy across social media platforms, prompting diverse reactions and speculation.

The image, which depicts Mnangagwa and Mai Titi in close proximity, has stirred debate among Zimbabwean netizens, with some expressing concern over the perceived intimacy between the Zanu PF leader and the outspoken entertainer.

Accusations have been leveled against Mai Titi for allegedly encroaching upon Mnangagwa’s personal space, while others have questioned the appropriateness of the encounter.

“President Mnangagwa should maintain his dignity and distance himself from controversial figures like Mai Titi,” remarked one social media user, echoing the sentiments of those critical of the photograph.

“This undermines the integrity of the presidency and sends the wrong message to the public,” they added, reflecting concerns over the potential implications of the perceived association between Mnangagwa and Mai Titi.

Conversely, others have defended Mai Titi, arguing that her interaction with Mnangagwa should not be misconstrued or sensationalized.

“Mai Titi is a public figure in her own right, and there’s nothing wrong with her engaging with the president,” asserted another social media user, pushing back against the criticism directed towards the comedienne.

“We should focus on substantive issues rather than scrutinizing harmless interactions,” they added, urging restraint in interpreting the photograph.

The photograph has reignited discussions surrounding the boundaries between politics, entertainment, and social media in Zimbabwean society.

As public figures increasingly engage with each other across diverse platforms, the lines between personal and political spheres become increasingly blurred, leading to debates about propriety, decorum, and the perceived implications of such interactions.

Critics argue that Mnangagwa’s association with Mai Titi undermines the seriousness of his office and detracts from the gravity of the issues facing Zimbabwe. Conversely, supporters maintain that such encounters reflect the president’s accessibility and willingness to engage with individuals from all walks of life, irrespective of their public image or reputation.

As the photograph continues to circulate on social media, it serves as a reminder of the complexities and nuances inherent in the intersection of politics, entertainment, and digital communication.

While some may view the encounter between Mnangagwa and Mai Titi as innocuous, others interpret it as a reflection of broader societal dynamics and power relations within Zimbabwean politics and culture.

Mnangagwa’s Son Rejects ZiG Currency for Passport Printing Services He Owns The Govt Tender

Zimbabwe’s Deputy Finance Minister Rejects Local Currency for Passport Fees Amid State Capture Concerns

By Farai D Hove | At a time the First Family owns the passport printing tender, Zimbabwe’s ongoing economic narrative, Deputy Minister of Finance, David Mnangagwa, has rejected the local currency, ZiG, named after his father, President Emmerson Mnangagwa, for the payment of passport fees. This development came to light during a heated Senate session where Senator Meliwe Phuti questioned the rationale behind the insistence on foreign currency payments for passports.

David Mnangagwa’s response underscored the complexities of public-private partnerships and the government’s commitment to uphold contracts with foreign investors. “The social contract and the mechanics around it are being discussed. It is a sensitive area that we don’t want to rush or expediently go to without having spoken to all the stakeholders,” he explained. The Deputy Minister highlighted the government’s view of the sanctity of contracts as sacrosanct, suggesting a careful approach to any changes in the agreed terms.

The controversy centers around the fees for electronic passports, which are set in foreign currency. The Lithuanian company, Garsu Pasaulis, which established the electronic passport system in Zimbabwe, has been pinpointed as a key player in this agreement. According to Mnangagwa, the arrangement includes clauses that necessitate payment in foreign currency, ostensibly to allow the investor to recoup the initial investment.

Critics argue that this move could suggest possible collusion and even state capture, as the local currency continues to face severe devaluation and instability. Stakeholders express concern that prioritizing foreign currency could undermine the ZiG and exacerbate the economic challenges facing ordinary Zimbabweans.

The debate over currency usage for government services highlights broader issues of governance and economic management in Zimbabwe. As discussions continue, stakeholders from various sectors are keenly watching the government’s next steps in addressing these pivotal economic and social contracts.

Eastern Region Division 1 League log leaders, FC Wangu Mazodze yesterday walloped Great Zimbabwe University FC by 5 goals to nil at Mucheke Stadium in Masvingo.

The result means Zhalala Zhululu Boys maintained their 100 percent winning record after collecting maximum points in all their 5 matches.

CHANGALA BOOING PROPAGANDA, SIGN OF OPPOSITION DESPERATION AND CHEAP POLITICS

By Mark Simuuwe | The booing PF propaganda by old men like Bredner Changala who may have watched soccer from their bedroom, is cheap politics.

Zambians should forgive Bredner Changala because his appetitie to talk is driven by his stomach . We know him well .

Changala should know that PF is gone and it wil never come back . Just their current internal wrangles go to demonstrate why they failed to run the country.

Changala is pushing an agenda for a dead horse.

What he does not realize is that PF died when they started fighting among themselves the day ECL became president and this is the major destruction that led them to the grave apart from failing to run the country.

Newsdiggers side article copy

PF has been a failed project in which almost 80 percent of the cabinet wanted to be leaders of the party.

Non of the senior officials want to be led by the other . This is a sign of a failed project .

Those who stole public funds and are being caught with money cannot advise us how to run the country . People who closed media houses and killed citizens for merely wanting to assemble cannot tell us about freedom and rights .

Those who gassed citizens, created a debt mountain which has brought us to the mess we see in some sectors cannot tell us how to run the country .

Those who closed Indeni and failed to pay council workers cannot tell us how to run the country.

Those who allowed thuggery behavior and militia to take away peace from bus stations and markets cannot tell us how to run the country.

They ran a government of the corrupt , for the corrupt and by the corrupt.

Coming to soccer at the Heroes Stadium yesterday;

Many of those who watched yesterday’s match have been taken aback at the level of cheap politics and propaganda being driven by the opposition political parties .

PF carders like Bredner Changala ought to know that such type of cheap politics are going to damage the image of the opposition more as those electorates that went to watch soccer do well remember that nothing of the booing sort took place .

Sadly , we have old men like Mr Changala who are desperately wanting to remain financially relevant by preaching propaganda and lies .

As I have said before , lies have short legs . It is important for the PF to realize that creating such narratives does not only defeat the whole idea of practicing clean politics but creates more damage and the little confidence that citizens have in the opposition once citizens discover that such are mere assertions.

To date , the same Changala and the PF have failed to produce even a video to prove the booing . This is how dirty their propaganda is .

They have no sense of shame to lie . It is these lies which made Zambians vote them out of power .

After stealing so much money from citizens , destroyed mines , closed media houses , closed Indeni , failed to pay council workers , failed to recruit youths caught with Ukwa bags of money which is being recovered , caused so much bloodshed and death, and state sponsored terrorism , they have now resorted to preaching lies as a way of campaigning by deceit .

PF are so bitter that it is difficult even for them to make sense .

People who failed to run the country cannot advise us how to run the country.

Chevrons Triumph…

Police Arrest Chris And Monica Mutsvangwa Now- Kerina

By Kerina Mujati | Good evening and a happy Monday Zimbabwe. Well done courts for denying Neville Mutsvangwa bail. The 30th of May is too early because you found Neville with an Estonian ID, many foreign bank cards, and 48 sim cards in contravention of the telecommunications act, which is indicative that he is operating in a syndicate of organised criminal gangs. This is a high security case; if the same courts sent Job Sikala for utterances as a security risk and he was in prison for a long time, honestly, Neville is a high national, regional, and international security risk considering all the apparatus suggestive of international crimes/insurgency.

Therefore, this case of Neville Mutsvangwa should not be treated with urgency but due investigative/intelligence gathering processes should be prioritised. Given the apparatus which were at his disposal, the case should be multinational. Has the Zimbabwean Republic Police made a notification to the InterPol regional office?

The most disturbing national security risk about Neville Mutsvangwa is the fact that he was found with an Estonian ID which was NEVER declared to the Zimbabwe immigration and border security. Neville Mutsvangwa is a person of high security risk and interest considering that Estonia is infamous for its Albanian/Russian mafia known for notorious international arms trafficking, drugs, human trafficking, prostitution, and money laundering gangs. I hope the CIA will not be interested in this case and our nation find itself in the same situation as Nicaragua/Panama and Congo in the late 1990s. Are Zimbabweans citizens safe considering how greedy the Mutsvangwas are and placing the country at high risk?

Christopher and Monica Mutsvangwa need to be interrogated as well. Arrest Chris and Monica Mutsvangwa to answer questions for the money laundering and Estonian ID as it is apparent that as long as money is involved, they will not stop at even putting the nation in jeopardy. Our nation must not be a thug’s paradise.

Lawyers Dump Zanu PF Thug

By Crime and Courts Reporter- Lawyers in Masvingo are refusing to represent a notorious Zanu PF youth leader because of his violent behaviour.

Zanu PF Masvingo Provincial Youth leader Delight Mandebvu told local  Magistrate Elizabeth Hanzie to transfer his case against former Masvingo Mayor Collen Maboke to courts in other provinces.

Mandebvu appeared before Hanzie facing three counts of assault as well as one of negligent driving and was remanded out of custody to May 21 for him to get a chance to find a lawyer outside Masvingo.

He told the court that his plea was centred on the fact that local lawyers were shunning him since the complainant is also a lawyer and the court may rule in his favour as he is always at court as a lawyer but the magistrate turned down his plea saying his reasons were not satisfying.

“I am appealing to the court to allow my case to be dealt with other courts outside of Masvingo province because the complainant is a lawyer so the ruling can be in his favour. The ruling can only be fair if the case is heard elsewhere.

“It is difficult for me to get a lawyer in Masvingo because most of them are the complainant’s colleagues,” said Mandebvu.

On the night of the incident that landed him in court, Mandebvu and Maboke’s vehicles which were going different directions sideswiped before the vehicle Mandebvu was travelling in allegedly made a U-turn and blocked Maboke’s car which was being driven by his wife.

It is alleged that Mandebvu disembarked from his car and started assaulting the former mayor, his wife as well as another passenger who was in the latter’s car.

It is further alleged that during the brawl, a car approached the scene, failed to brake and hit Mandebvu who was reportedly in the middle of the road seriously injuring him in the process.

Mandebvu denied the accusations and said it was Maboke who saw his car heading to a food outlet and blocked it.

He said upon realizing that he was not in the vehicle, the Mabokes continued their journey, which is when they saw him at a lay-by along Masvingo-Mutare Road.

Mandebvu alleges that Maboke tried to cross the road towards him but returned to his vehicle, reversed it and hit Mandebvu, who fell on the ground.

He further said when Maboke and his accomplices heard that he had been taken to a clinic in Nyika, they followed him there and became violent assaulting his wife, mother and a nurse at the health institution.

Mandebvu is said to have since filed attempted murder charges against Maboke alleging that he was hit by the latter’s vehicle, not by any other vehicle as had been reported.

Mai Titi in Hot Soup Over Video With Auxillia’s Mnangagwa Husband

Video Sparks Outrage and Fear of Reprisals.

The video’s caption, “A special Mother’s day well spent with His Excellency Dr. ED Mnangagwa. We love you President. ED pfeeeee,” has caused a stir, with insiders worried about the potential backlash Mai Titi might face. Historical precedents, such as the tragic case of the late Raymond Majonga, who faced a grim choice under duress after allegations of an affair, loom over the current scandal, suggesting possible severe repercussions for Murata.

A State House source expressed severe disapproval to ZimEye, stating, “We have told her to delete all those pictures and videos which are nothing but disrespectful.”

Potential Political and Social Ramifications

The incident is not merely about a breach of protocol or personal boundaries; it taps into deeper issues within Zimbabwe’s political landscape. Past allegations of romantic entanglements with President Mnangagwa have previously stirred public and private debates about fidelity and respect concerning the First Family.

Political analyst Tendai Marima notes, “Excluding the First Lady in such a public message, especially on Mother’s Day, can be seen as a significant oversight at best and a deliberate act of disrespect at worst.”

Criticism over “ED Pfee” Slogan

Adding to the controversy is the slogan “ED Pfee” used in the video, which has been criticized for its inappropriate sexual connotations, further complicating the public’s reception of the message. This term, while originally a political rallying cry, has sparked debate over its evolving interpretations.

Sociologist Dr. Farai Mutondoro commented on the issue, “Such language shifts focus from legitimate political discourse to moral and ethical concerns, which is damaging at both national and international levels.”

Calls for Respect and Decorum

As the controversy unfolds, there is a strong call from various quarters for heightened decorum in political communications. Human rights advocate Linda Masarira emphasized the necessity for respectful language, stating, “Our leaders and their supporters must reflect values of respect, integrity, and equality. We must avoid hidden agendas or inappropriate insinuations that divide rather than unite.”

The situation remains tense as stakeholders and the public await responses from both the presidency and Mai Titi. The unfolding events will be crucial in determining the socialite’s future and the broader implications for the image and integrity of Zimbabwe’s leadership.

Cash Crisis Hits Zimbabwe as RBZ Fails to Deliver ZiG

Business Reporter- Zimbabwe is grappling with a severe cash crisis as the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) fails to supply the market with the Zimbabwe Gold (ZiG).

Cash scarcity adversely impacts aggregate demand, particularly in the informal sector, which constitutes the majority of Zimbabwe’s workforce and heavily relies on cash transactions.

RBZ commenced the circulation of ZiG notes and coins on April 30, nearly three weeks after ZiG replaced the Zimbabwe dollar, which had experienced a staggering 75% depreciation this year alone.

The shortage of cash has reverberated across various sectors, including transport, supermarkets, and the informal market, causing disruptions to business operations.

Economist Gift Mugano, speaking to a local weekly, attributed the cash shortage to the Central Bank’s “incompetence,” stating, “We do not have enough ZiG from the central bank. The size of the money supply is about ZiG90 million, whereas the size of our economy is about ZiG20 billion. So, the question is how does the government expect to provide enough cash in the market with such a small share of ZiG? The central bank has not printed enough ZiG. Last time I checked, they had only printed small denominations, thereby starving the market. This is a failure; the bank must print enough ZiG currency and sufficient denominations for the market. At this stage, we should not be struggling to access ZiG just for change; it’s serious incompetence on behalf of the central bank.” Mugano warned that the scarcity of ZiG could lead to increased dollarization, highlighting the risk of relying on foreign currency if ZiG remains unavailable.

Another economist, Prosper Chitambara, suggested that the cash shortage could be a deliberate strategy by the RBZ to prevent excessive liquidity in the economy and curb inflation.

Chitambara stated, “It could be a supply issue; the central bank did not print enough money. Maybe they are trying to monitor the situation because you do not want to introduce too much liquidity into the economy; it can actually have a destabilizing impact. Of course, there is a strong demand for ZiG, especially to facilitate change. So obviously, we need to create that fine balance in terms of ensuring there is enough supply.”

Fanwell Mutogo, CEO of the Bankers Association of Zimbabwe, indicated that banks typically order cash from the central bank based on anticipated customer demand and encouraged customers to embrace digital transactions as part of a broader digitization effort aimed at reducing reliance on physical cash and enhancing efficiency.

The introduction of ZiG marks Zimbabwe’s sixth attempt at establishing a functional local currency since the hyperinflation crisis of 2008 decimated the Zimbabwe dollar (ZWD).

Respect Mothers, Nelson Chamisa Implores Nation

By A Correspondent|ZimEye

In a heartfelt tribute to the mothers of Zimbabwe, Advocate Nelson Chamisa, the young opposition leader, has highlighted the invaluable contributions and sacrifices made by mothers across the nation.

In a statement released on Sunday, Chamisa eloquently chronicled the pivotal roles mothers play in shaping societies and nurturing future generations.

“DEAR MOTHERS, YOU KEEP HOPE ALIVE,” Chamisa’s statement began, emphasizing the enduring resilience and inspiration embodied by mothers.

He went on to acknowledge the unparalleled strength exhibited by women, noting that they often bear the heaviest burdens of life, including those of nations, communities, and families.

“Women shoulder and carry the heaviest burdens in life—the burdens of nations, communities, and families,” Chamisa remarked, acknowledging the immense weight of responsibility shouldered by mothers.

He emphasized that mothers serve as pillars of strength and support, offering solace and care to the weak, sick, and vulnerable among us.

Highlighting the often unseen and unrecognized efforts of mothers, Chamisa praised their unwavering dedication and resilience in the face of adversity.

“To all amazing Mothers out there, you are jewels,” Chamisa expressed his deep appreciation for the selfless contributions of mothers, both acknowledged and unseen.

He emphasized that motherhood is not just a biological role but a divine gift and a sacred responsibility bestowed by a higher power.

Chamisa extended his heartfelt prayers and blessings to all mothers, recognizing their immeasurable value to society.

“Praying for all Mothers. God bless you,” he concluded, wishing all mothers a joyous Mother’s Day and expressing gratitude for their invaluable contributions to the world.

Mnangagwa On Camera Renaming Meikles Hotel to Hyatt Regency

By Dorrothy Moyo | ZANU PF President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa officiated the renaming ceremony of Meikles Hotel to Hyatt Regency Hotel in Harare on Monday. This announcement marks a significant shift in the landscape of Zimbabwe’s hospitality industry, with the iconic Meikles Hotel undergoing extensive renovations to emerge under a new brand.

Mnangagwa unveiling the plaque

While the rebranding signals a modernization effort and a step towards attracting international visitors, it has also sparked widespread outrage among thousands of Zimbabweans. Meikles Hotel, steeped in history and nostalgia, holds a special place in the hearts of many locals, serving as a landmark of the country’s heritage for decades. The decision to discard the familiar name in favor of a global brand like Hyatt Regency has been met with skepticism and resistance from those who view it as an erasure of Zimbabwean identity and history.

The timing of the renaming ceremony coincides with Zimbabwe’s preparations to host the 44th SADC Heads of State Summit and the upcoming 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup, where the hotel is expected to play a significant role in accommodating dignitaries and international cricket teams. Proponents of the rebranding argue that aligning with a prestigious international brand like Hyatt will elevate the country’s tourism profile and attract high-end clientele, ultimately boosting the economy.

However, amidst the fanfare surrounding the unveiling of the Hyatt Regency plaque, questions linger about the implications of this decision on the local community and economy. Critics argue that the rebranding represents a shift towards prioritizing foreign investment and catering to the elite, neglecting the needs and sentiments of ordinary Zimbabweans. The renovation and rebranding process, while promising a fresh look and modern amenities, risk sidelining local businesses and workers who have long been part of Meikles Hotel’s legacy.

Furthermore, concerns have been raised about the transparency and accountability surrounding the decision-making process leading to the rebranding. The lack of consultation with the broader community and the perceived haste in implementing the changes have fueled suspicions of ulterior motives behind the rebranding initiative.

As Zimbabwe navigates its path towards economic revitalization and global integration, the rebranding of Meikles Hotel to Hyatt Regency serves as a microcosm of the broader tensions between tradition and progress, local identity and global influence. While the move holds the promise of ushering in a new era of luxury hospitality and international recognition, it also underscores the complexities and challenges inherent in balancing the aspirations of a nation with the demands of a rapidly changing world.

Picture Of Mnangagwa Dangerously Close To Mai Titi Creates Noise On Social Media

“Don’t Go To The UK, Life Is Too Expensive There,” Varakashi Tell Zimbabweans

Mnangagwa Forces Zanu PF Party Members To Use ZiG
